SureStay Plus by Best Western Mammoth Lakes

While expensive for Best Western, this motel offers one of the more affordable options in Mammoth. I've stayed there twice now while in the area to snowboard, and the rooms are clean and the hot tub is a great bonus. Rao at the front desk always goes above and beyond to ensure I have a great stay.

Staff was great at Mommoth Lakes BW. Breakfast is the standard basic hot meal, good small selection as it seems in my opinion that Best Western is cutting back on some breakfast selections, maybe due to cost? Underneath parking lot is horrible to park unless u have a miniature vehicle or motorcycle. The parking slots keep getting smaller and it is very difficult to park which will take some time to maneuver in. The room was ok for staying overnight, but the pricecharged per night overall doesn't fit the hotel. The reason ur paying so much is because of location. Tv reception was horrible as channels kept freezing. Seems they don't have cable only off-air antenna which isn't working. HVAC unit was real noisy. Glass shower door does not stay open as it is not level. This BW at Mammoth is ok if u happen to not find anything else as it is basic, and price doesn't fit this hotel.

The room was clean and comfortable. The location was great close to the ski slopes and town. It isn't the best hotel you will stay at, but for the money it can't be beat. I have stayed over 1,000 nights at many hotels and am a life time platinum at one of the major hotels and happy to stay here anytime I am in the area. I have stayed here more than once.

The positives- clean room, very nice jacuzzi, underground parking, good hotel breakfast that includes the fresh waffle maker! Also is walking distance away from bar/restaurant Morrisons and has a fridge and microwave in the room. It's a great place to stay if you're just enjoying things that Mammoth offers. Yes room furnishings are aged, but they were clean. I also had good experience with the staff, from front desk to folks setting up breakfast. The Jacuzzi, wafflemaker, and clean room makes it slightly above average, thus the 4 stars.

This mom and pop place was well managed & the couple who ran the place were courteous & hospitable. Our room was in average condition except for an office chair that was lopsided/broken. There is no carpet, which I prefer, but for a motel that caters to skiers a vinyl floor makes sense. The breakfast room (in basement) had the typical fare of breakfast items including cereals, yogurts, scrambled eggs, etc. There is coffee in the upstairs lobby as well as in the breakfast room. Parking was available on the street and also in an underground parking garage. Close to center of town.

Disappointed. Not what I expected of Best Western endorsed hotel. Poorly maintained facility. Staff was very friendly. Condition of room was worn down. More attention to maintenance and up keep would be beneficial. Price was “the going rate”. This place was not worth nearly $500 for 2nights. We could have done better.

I have never felt the need to look at reviews for any Best Western properties but after staying at this location, I will start looking at reviews prior to booking. I always like to see the positive in every situation but this property made that pretty challenging. Let's start with the few positives: newly renovated rooms with hardwood floors throughout, comfortable bed, great shower with hot water and strong water pressure, good location, pet friendly, free parking and wifi, hot breakfast (get there early though) and A/C (but... see below). Now the negatives: overall, the property is outdated and dingy, fire alarms and smoke detectors do not work and from what I can tell from other reviews, they haven't worked in months (see picture), while the rooms are nicely appointed, they are small (there's an old Travel Lodge sign out back and I read several other reviews that said this was previously a Travel Lodge), rooms are partially clean (we found hair on the bathroom floors), parking out back had zero lighting, although the hotel staff encourage guests to park in the underground parking lot (which was fine but with roof racks, it was a tight fit for our jeep grand cherokee), bedroom windows are operable but no locks or screens, A/C unit was noisy and did not produce a lot of cool air to cool the room, which made for a hard nights sleep, walls are pretty thin (we could hear out neighbors full conversation at 5am). For a one-night stay, this place is fine. Would I stay here again? Most likely not. You get what you pay for (and that's pretty sad since we paid ~$200 to stay here).

If you're looking for a resort feel this is not it. But it was warm and friendly and was a place to shower and sleep! We loved the central location. We wish we could've stayed longer but Tioga Pass still being closed stopped that.

The room we stayed has two queen beds and sleeper sofa. It's very clean. It also has balcony with round table and two chairs where me and my spouse spend time talking and enjoying the view of the pine trees. The place is walking distance to restaurants, bakery, and shops. It is minutes drive to Convict lake, June lake, Tufa Mono lake and others. I would like to come back here.

Room smelled like garbage. Smoking out front of balcony during the middle of the night and all day. There were dogs in the breakfast area. Noise of other guests (smoking at night) kept us awake. Unhelpful reception. Rooms were only partly cleaned.

Very thin walls, noisy, ran out of food at breakfast, bring your own water to breakfast, smoke alarms not operating, underground parking a mess, staff brushed off my complaints. Smallchanges would make a lot of difference!

Sure Stay by Best Western is by far the worst hotel experiences I've ever had in my life. I booked this hotel last minute for around USD 350 and honestly I wouldn't even pay USD 20 for the service I received. Upon checking in, the front desk lady gave me a lot of promises that she would talk to her manager about, but I was never contacted. So I went to the front desk everyday for the next two days, just to receive no response and extremely harsh attitudes by the front desk staff. For instance, Alex at the front desk at 8:30 pm was extremely rude and acted like he owned the place. I have visited numerous countries and hotels around the world and my family also runs numerous hotels but if I ever experience the service like I did with Alex, I would re-consider my whole retail industry. Another time I was disrespected within only 2 days of staying there was with Dani, at the front desk. She literally told me to shut up. At that point I was just ready to leave and didn't want anything to do with the hotel. I HIGHLY suggest you read this review before ever thinking to stay at Sure Stay Mammoth. If there are no other hotels available, I would request you to check out air bnb or other services or just delay your trip because it would just be disappointing to you if you live there. I will never pass by Sure Stay properties again in the world because of the miss-treatment, extremely rude comments, and unhelpful staff.

The room was clean but very small and basic. The promised breakfast was NOT available on the 24 th. of Jan. The next day breakfast was available but it was quite skimpy. Cool eggs and sausage . Very limited supply of bread for toast. The entrance to the hotel was covered with a sheet of ICE . Tough to walk safely on. There were ways to make the entrance safer .

The showers were cold due to broken heater system. Th staff did not care and did not get if fixed for 3 days. The breakfast did not feel clean. The heater in the room was very loud and needed maintenance.

Room was clean and location is in good with views of city. Staff is friendly. Management is on top of things. The only down fall is that there are no elevators. Staff makes you feel welcome. Rooms are clean.

We checked in, went to our room and turned on the heater. The noise was unbearable. There's no way we could've slept in that room . We asked the receptionist about moving to a different room and we're told that all rooms have the same issue. We had no choice but to leave the premises. The heater was noisy and full of dust and possibly mold . Travelers beware of what you're breathing while you stay in this dump .

A Travel Lodge being converted to a Best Western so they are still upgrading to BW standards was my opinion. Rooms were clean and newly remodeled. Some construction flaws and design defects they should have reconsidered. Breakfast area needs some sprucing up. All in all it serves its purpose for a one night stay.

Our stay had many deficiencies including an unplugged clock not set up, a very loose shower door handle, a safety door latch half missing, tissue stuffed in the peephole, cigarette smoke odor in the room, no paper pates for breakfast, and loud plumbing.

The only good comment I can make is the room was clean.. Now for the not so good part, the tub would barely drain you where standing in 3 inches of water while taking a shower. The lighting along the counter they called a desk was poor, almost all the outlets where so worn they wouldn't hold your plug in. Then to top it off I could not get a printed receipt because the person at the front desk could not find that I had even checked in even though my credit card had already been authorized for payment.. needless to say our stay was not very enjoyable.. It is way over priced (maybe they can justify price because of location during ski season but not in oct. with no snow on the ground) I will not ever stay at this hotel in the future...

This is your perfect nightmare hotel/motel. We stayed here three nights because it had BW in the name. Well, if this is a BW, I will throw away my membership. The check-in folks are rude and not informed. The hotel is laid out like a rat's maze with stairwells to nowhere and there is no elevator. Parking in the underground garage is a nightmare of pillars and only one way out. The breakfast was a disaster. The cook didn't show up, so they had the janitor running the breakfast without any milk for the cereal, no bread or pastries, some chopped up scrambled eggs with the cheapest thin greasy bacon I've ever seen. Now to our room. It was clean but already was beat up since the remodel. The shower handle was falling off, and the tub didn't drain. The latch on the bathroom door had been broken off already and was gone. I had to ask the front desk for two more bath towels three times and still had to go to the desk to get them myself after no response. BTW, there was no attendant at the desk, so I looked behind the counter in the office and no one was insight. I left after 15 minutes. Unreal. Oh, yeah, I hung my "Maid pls clean the room tag" on our door and when we came back the room hadn't been touched. I think the maid turned it over to "do not disturb". is that possible!!! I don't know what else to say, except avoid this establishment. It is a disaster, unbefitting BW,

The good - bed is firm and water is hot and pressure is good. Lots of outlets/usb/c . The rest: Parking - 1 handicap spot by the entrance with a handful of parking spots on street. Underground parking available, no elevator. Room is small and tight. Breakfast abysmal. Thin walls. Front desk is minimally helpful.

Hotel is old, smells, sheets old not clean, one pillowcase for 4 pillows, pillows smells and have spots for generations. No one care about you or your breakfast. Location was fine , middle of the city

Booked through Priceline, this nightmare only ended when I left. The television and internet was broken and “hostess / attendant “ offered no solutions and, it was never repaired ! The “ courtesy breakfast “ served in the basement, ran out of food in the first 15 minutes, there was no attendant available to service the area. The “ hostess “ left the front desk in the evening unattended for over an hour ! No one answered the phone at the front desk and no answering machine or service !

Staff are under trained at best. No one knows what they are doing and a request to speak to a manager goes unheeded. I had a reservation and pre checked in via text in reply to a message from the hotel. When I arrived I was told I had no reservation. I went to my room, very smalls and cramped. I tried to turn on a bedside lamp and it didn't work. I started to sit on the left side of the bed to look at the controls and the bed collapsed with me ending up on the floor. The clock for the room was on the floor under the other side of the bed and didn't work when I plugged it in. Complaints both in person and via text went unanswered and no repairs were made during my stay. My reservation was made for four (4) nights, however I canceled the 4th night when I arrived. I was charged for three nights with the charge card indicating I was staying at the Travel Lodge in Mammoth Lakes. After the breakfast issue I told the desk clerk I was cancelling my 3rd night. The next morning I checked out and asked to have my third night's charges removed from my charge card. A couple of hours after I left I was notified that my card was charged for yet another night's stay (making the bill for four nights) at the Travel Lodge. This is theft by fraud and I intend to dispute the charges and file a criminal report with the Sheriff!! Another person in my group was charged for 4 nights at check in and was charged again within hours for a fifth night. He also asked for a manager and no one ever responded.

Let just say We won't be going back and stay at this hotel again. Don't be fooled “ by Best Western” sign like we did. The hotel from the outside need a new paint job, the staffs members need a remedial training how to greet their customers, the continental breakfast was nothing to write home about, it barely have any foods to eat.

Decent location in the town of Mammoth but very basic in most ways. No elevator so we had to haul luggage up two flights of stairs. We're seniors so I asked if there was a room available on the first floor but the check in person was not accommodating although the motel did not appear to be full. I guess we were lucky to be on the 2nd floor not higher. Room was adequate and did have an air conditioner unit (not universal in Mammoth) that was noisy and difficult to regulate. The included breakfast is in a basement area. When we arrived at 9 am (before the deadline) I asked for milk. I was told by the staff person (who had limited English) that there wasn't any, despite the fact they have dry cereal and oatmeal. They apparently didn't have any butter for the toast, bagels or waffles either (no waffle batter anyway). We'll try a different motel if we decide to visit Mammoth again.

I booked this hotel online a travel site. Once they charged me for the booking and sent the confirmation email, I called and talked to the person on checkin counter of the hotel. They confirmed the reservation. I told him on the phone that I will be arriving after midnight and he made a note of it. After this I drove for 5 hours to the Surestay plus hotel and reached around 1am. When I reached there the receptionist told me that the hotel can see my prepaid reservation but they don't have a room assigned to it and unfortunately they don't have any available room. This was so shocking to me because I had called ahead and confirmed the booking and had prepaid for it. The person at front desk suggested me few hotels but they were all fully booked. His next suggestion was to go stay the night at Bishop which is 45mins away. This all seemed so unprofessional and frustrating. Finally I had to go stay at the Motel 6 in the town. On top of all of this the front desk guy couldn't even refund me. His system allowed him to only refund the room charges but not the taxes and service fees. Stay away from this place if you want to enjoy your vacation. Tldr: Made a prepaid 2 day booking. Called ahead, confirmed the booking and told them I will reach late night. Drove 5 hours and upon checkin I was told they made the booking but didn't allot me a room and they have no room for me. Had to stay the night in Motel 6

The property was ok. Apparently this place was a Travelodge before. If you pay a little more attention beyond the surface, you can still see a lot of Travelodge quality in there. Looks like some updating has been done in the room interior but more work needs to be done to bring the facility to Best Western standards. Front desk staff need customer service training if Best Western cares about their brand reputation.

Hotel is more like a circus!! DO NOT STAY HERE. Manager and team are an absolute disgrace! Still waiting on a refund I was promised for an incorrect and an unauthorised no show charge for a reservation I did not make. Took 2.5 hours to check in and issue still not sorted 2 weeks later. Promised a refund by the manager and made to pay again but guess what… no refund. Manager is never at work and the front desk staff are rude, useless & should not be working in customer service. You will be lied to at this hotel, please stay somewhere else. I have escalated my issue to higher management and I will not rest until my issue is resolved. Process my refund like you promised!!

The frontdesk personnel needs a training how to deal with hotel visitors. No manners and rude. Feeling like his the owner of the hotel. I have some problem with the card key and he was upset about it and told me its my fault. We have a friction with our converssation and he told me i can leave if I'm not happy and threatened to call a police and told me I'm complaining because i need a refund. How rude that is. Really disgusting

The most unhelpful person at the front desk in the world of hotels stays. Dirty room full of hair. The breakfast had hardly and food. I gave them my BW rewards information and i never receive my rewards points or email receipt, I had to file a claim with BW. This hotel is way below the BW standard for this chain of hotels. Be aware if you stay here.

Our little family had a nice little stay. The room was clean and looked newly remodeled. Has a mini fridge and microwave. Balcony was nice to have. Bathroom was clean and everything worked great. The only downside was the ice machine. There's only one and when we needed ice… there was no ice left at the time we needed it; just had to wait it out. Location was nice. Close to a pizza/bar spot and restaurant. About 2-4 min drive to Mammoth Village. The continental breakfast was not bad… Can't go wrong with waffles! The stairwells and hallways could use a little updating to match the rooms but overall it's worth the stay.

About the only positive is that it was recently remodeled and clean. That's where the good stops. We stayed here because we were traveling with our dogs and really didn't have much choice in the area. For $250 a night, it was pretty sad. The one chair in our room, an office type chair, was broken. The place where the smoke alarm should be in the ceiling was just dangling wires. The outlet under the desk area was literally hanging out of the wall. The rooms are very small. The bathroom door is a barn door. Ours was off the bottom rail. Absolutely no privacy when using the restroom. Breakfast was terrible. Our teen son said it felt like a prison lunchroom. We couldn't eat cereal because the milk carafe was empty right when we came in and after asking twice, it was never refilled. The first morning there were about 10 pieces of bacon, but it did get refilled. The 2nd morning, there were 3 pieces of bacon and it was not refilled while we were there. I picked up a raspberry danish to enjoy but it was frozen solid and there were no microwaves. There was no water for drinking at breakfast. The waffle batter was empty and took forever to get refilled. On the first morning, there was no coffee. No coffee. There is no elevator down to breakfast in the basement so back up the stairs to go find coffee. I am not one to leave a negative review but if you have any other option, go there, not here.

It's an old hotel, but you can tell that you can tell the new owners are working very hard to refurbish it! Rooms are smaller than average, but that's hardly the fault of the new owners on how the building was built. The rooms are modern and basically brand new with A/C, microwave, fridge, USB ports, coffee maker, etc. I chose this hotel over many others because rooms have a/c. It can get warm in Mammoth in the summer and I sleep better cold. Free breakfast with waffle maker is a great value! They had all the continental breakfast staples and the guy working the dining area was working VERY hard to make sure everything was always filled. Rushing back and forth, checking on everything. They also cleaned my room every single day, instead of trying to save money under the guise of COVID. Now that's how you run a hotel. Take note Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott! You can tell the owners really care about their investment and are putting a ton of money into this hotel. That said, expect some construction if you stay here in the coming weeks, but Inconvenience is minimal. For example, they were repaving the front parking of the building, so I had to go into the underground parking lot and up the stairs. Also be advised, no elevator. Overall, think you'll be pleasantly surprised if you stay here.

I was unsure whether to stay here at first but I'm glad I did. This place is fantastic. It's the best best western I've ever stayed at. The place has been newly remodeled and everything is brand new and clean. The rooms were amazing and comfortable. The hot tub was also very large and nice. My wife also said breakfast was great too. I want to give a special shout out to the Indian gentlemen at the front desk. He really went over and beyond to make us feel at home at the Best Western, he deserves a raise. We will definitely be back again.
