« Very nice stay »

We stayed here for short period but recommend to stay because it is very comfortable. The hotel is near the station and the center of city. I can walk and see a lot of places. Very cozy, clean, good views

    « Decent Hotel »

Stayed for 7 nights while visiting our daughter in Lyon. Rooms are small and hotel is a bit older but it was always clean. Location is very close to Confluence Mall and even closer to Perrache Station where you can catch the TGV and buses to other areas of France.

« Good For a One Night Stay Prior to a River Cruise »

We only stayed here one night prior to a river cruise, hence our experience is limited. We thought it was an slightly above average Best Western. What struck us most was the spacious outdoors landscaping on the property. The hotel itself was what one would expect for a city located Best Western. It was clean, well supplied, air conditioned, and the front desk very helpful. This hotel have a good location for restaurants for the evening meal and for access to the river dock the next morning.

« Old, tired and run down »

Decent location. They have two buildings and we stayed in ?the other building ? which was very old, tired/dated and run down. Only one elevator for 7 floors and we were on 7th floor. Staff was mostly friendly. We did have an incident with finding a pillowcase in our luggage that we did not pack leading us to believe our luggage was ?gone through?. When I bought it to the front desk they didn't apologize and just stated the pillowcase was from a different hotel. I certainly didn't pack a pillowcase from home or from a hotel I'd never been to.

« good hotel near Perrache station »

Good hotel, really close to Perrache train station, and at walking distance of pedestrian center with many restaurants & shops. Rooms are not big, but well kept and clean. To be mentioned that rooms have air conditioning, that not only works, but is also very quiet (which does not happen so often) Breakfast is ok. Ask for a room on the back side to avoid the noise of the cours Charlemagne.

« Great hotel, great location »

Really nice hotel, and excellent location. The reception staff were really helpful, except for the night manager who was rude and unhelpful - other than that we had a really nice time. The hotel should consider maybe getting a new night manager!

    « Hotel stay »

Stayed at the best western Charlemagne in Lyon south of France lovely hotel very friendly staff and helpful at all times The hotel was always clean room was in a nice location overlooking courtyard close to rail station about 5 minuets walk close to all locations for shopping and sight seeing breakfast looked great but I'm not a breakfast person Free bottle of water each day free paper to read Would stay there again without a second thought

« Very nice central Hotel »

Stayed 4 nights. Very central. Benedict on reception is a great help. Very knowledgeable about Lyon and gave good advice re restaurants, metro, trams, etc. Only comment was could do with more drawer space in std room(only one), otherwise very good reasonably priced hotel.

    « A very basic 3 star »

Very clean & adequate if you are not disabled or elderly.. The staff are very friendly, helpful & quickly respond to requests. The wifi is good but cumbersome to get onto and you need to log on every time you shutdown your computer. Hot pot in room for tea and instant coffee. Baths have hair dryer, towel warmer & tub/shower (washcloths do not exist in France). Toilet in separate room like all of France. You must go through an outside covered courtyard to get to most rooms, some are off an elevator near the front desk that isn't wheelchair accessible (must climb 4 steps). In fact, most of the hotel is wheelchair inaccessible: doors are too small (<30?) to elevators & baths (which also have no grab bars). Most stairs lack handrails on one side. The buffet breakfast (7-10 am) has eggs (scrambled/boiled), meats, cheeses, fruits, pastries, yogurt, dried fruit, juices and fairly good cappuccino/espresso and is downstairs (also wheelchair inaccessible though you can get room service). ROOM SERVICE & RESTAURANT HOURS ARE DEPLORABLE. Both are only open 12-1:30 pm & 7:30-9:30 pm weekdays and closed on weekends and no food is available at the bar except croissants from 10-12 am so you have to leave the hotel to eat after breakfast. To make matters worse, we were here May 1, France's Labor day, so we without it for 3 days in a row and very few eateries were open then . Laundry fees are high- 2 Euro for socks/underwear, 3 for t-shirts, 5 ea for blouses/pants - better to go to laundromat across the street. There's a bike rental stand just south of the hotel that is free for the first 30 min. Close to metro, tram, a grocery store but few restaurants. There is a huge mall just 2 tram stops south. BEWARE OF CABS - SOME CHARGE 50% MORE THAN OTHERS FOR SAME TRIP

« Friendly welcome, spotless hotel »

Very friendly welcome from Fabien. Both he and Benedict were very helpful at reception. Room was excellently appointed, warm and spotlessly clean. Tea/coffee a welcome bonus. Tram stop (Suchet, T1) just metres away from hotel and metro a short walk away. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Once again dining room was spotless and staff worked hard to keep it so. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would be very happy to stay there again.

    « Really great hotel! »

I visited here during January 2017 and was welcomed by very friendly staff. They helped me with my french, talked to me about lyon, gaves me maps and travel advice and sold me a Lyon card which came in very useful. My room was situated right next to the elevator and I remember thinking that I bet I would hear it opening and closing all night but I didn't at all. Probably because there's two sets of doors which can be confusing at first but probably help with the sound a lot. The hotel is in a great location too, a few minutes to the train station / metro and a few seconds to a tram stop. Plenty of good cafe's and shops too. If you leave the hotel and turn left, after walking 5 or so minutes you'll find a bid lidl. Next to that is a pub called The Peaky Blinders Tavern which was great to go for a drink in the evenings. Really enjoyed my stay here and would happily return :)

« 4* BW Hotel. Met my expectations »

Into two blocks accessible from reception. Standard hotel, nice standard large Superior Rooms with a bit retro furnitures. Clean and bright bathroom. Walk almost everywhere from the hotel, about 20/25 min to the old town. The staff is great and extremely helpful. That's a bonus. It must be nice in the summer to sit outside in the gardens and patios. Had a lovely stay. Thanks

« Great stay at this hotel! Friendly staff »

The hotel has a great situation near to tram station ( 1 min walk) and bus S1 station... If you like walking and getting lost in the Lyon streets you can t find better localisation as it s close to Carnot place, place belle court not too far and confluence museum at 2 tram station distance! The rooms are spacious with very comfortable bedding ( covers). The staff was fantastic, very helpful and give us some good tips to discover the city... I ll surely come back :)!

    « Great Location »

This hotel has a great location on Cours Charlemagne, not far from shopping mall, walking distance to Lyon Perrache train station, lots of restaurants around. If you cross the train station, you endup in a nice park place Bellecourt. The tram stop in by the hotel. It makes it easy to go to the old Lyon. The hotel itself is modern American style. Nice clean room.

« Okay Hotel in Good Position »

The hotel room was okay, but the bed was terrible, luckily it was a split double, so I could use the other half. The staff where very friendly and the breakfast okay. The hotel was fairly close to central, which was great.

    « Most excellant staff »

spending a few days in this Hotel with a friend to visit and enjoy several of the Michelin star restaurants. The Hotel is located on the main Tramway as well as being close to Perrache metro and railway line. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable and kept very clean , ,The buffet breakfast was excellent with a good variety of continental as well as some English items, although the self boiling of boiled eggs needs a bit of work. .There is also a huge two level garden area in which to relax in and enjoy a drink. But most of all it was the front desk staff who were very impressive and helpful giving directions and helping us make restaurant reservation, they even ordered us a limo instead of a taxi to take us back to our departure train station . thoroughly recommend this hotel

    « Great Hotel »

Stayed here for five nights whilst working.Five in the group. From the moment we checked in the staff were brilliant, very helpful. The place is very clean and the rooms were lovely and comfortable. No complaints from anyone within the group.Continental breakfast was good with additional bacon, scrambled egg and small sausages available. It's about a 20 min walk mostly along the riverside to the old town which is beautiful.Great hotel!

    « Lovely Little Hotel »

We only had one night here and wanted a central location. It was a 15 min walk to the centre so not too bad but there were cafes / restaurants on our door step. Didn't really get the chance to explore the city of Lyon unfortunately but would definitely recommend this cute little hotel, had a lovely out door area and the rooms were more than adequate. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly.

    « City break »

Brilliant Hotel, very friendly welcoming staff, nothing too much trouble, great breakfast, lovely relaxing outdoor spaces, lovely room with fantastic view of local church, first class daily room clean service, great location! 10 out of 10!!! ??

    « Reality didn't reach the expectation »

It is not worth 4 stars. Room very small and it lacked the attention for details. Lyon is a beautiful city but I wouldn't advice this hotel for a long stay (more than 2 days). Breakfast wasn't included.

« Decent spot for a quick city break »

If you're looking for a basic spot for a group of friends in Lyon this is a good choice. Pretty basic hotel but clean, good transport links and polite staff. Closest metro is a 2 min walk and taxi into the centre is only 10 mins and around 10-12 euros. The rooms were clean and had enough room for grown men. Clean showers and toilets, modern TV etc There are a couple of bars, cafes and late night take always nearby.

« Pleasant good value stay in Lyon »

We stayed in this hotel as our base for attending the finals of the European rugby cup final in May. It is a little way from the town centre and sports venues but there is a tram stop not far away if you don't want to walk into town. The breakfast was self-service with plenty of choice and variety and of good quality. The rooms are smallish but clean and well maintained and there is free WiFi. There are plenty of restaurants, bars and shops nearby. The hotel bar at night was very convivial with generous measures of spirits!

    « Average hotel a bit offside »

IThis is an ok hotel, clean and good breakfast. The downside is that it is located on the south side of town center and you need to take the subway to restaurants and bars. The area around the hotel seems to be a bit "neglected"...

    « Great bar »

Room was clean and comfortable and had all we needed. The bar had a nice vibe and the drinks were very generous (no optics) and the staff were friendly, especially Thierry. Thank you Best Western for an enjoyable stay and the cleaning staff for allowing us to sleep off the hangover.

« Excellent location and great hotel »

Stayed here two nights during the Euro's. Location was great being a 2 minute walk from the train station and 15 minute walk from the centre of Lyon and fan zone. Room was big, facilities were great and the beds were comfy. Staff were helpful and polite and I would definitely recommend the hotel to others

« Really good location close to tram stop and train station »

Large room by European standards. The breakfast was a large selection and breakfast room was very spacious. Our room was in a separate building off Charlemagne so very quiet. Don't be thrown off by separate building. A nice wide covered walkway around the central courtyard to enter this building.

« Modern hotel, spacious room, good location »

Stayed here as part of a group tour. The hotel is in the "confluence" area of Lyon, near the train station and tram lines and a few restaurants within walking distance (as well as the large Confluence shopping mall). My room was extra-large by European standards, and quite comfortable. However, the elevators were quite small, so could get crowded. The room had a small balcony (but no chairs on the balcony!) overlooking the hotel courtyard/garden. Bed was comfortable. Room had a large bathroom with good shower and a separate toilet room. The buffet breakfast was extensive (included eggs and cereal). Desk staff were friendly and helpful. Since I was on a tour, I can't say anything about room prices.

« The Lions of Lyon »

An excellent hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Booked room directly with hotel and were given a "superior" room which was spacious and very comfortable. Overlooked the courtyard garden and was therefore very quiet. Excellent breakfast including cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt,,hot dishes as well as range of cold meats and cheeses. Pleasant lounge / bar area and plenty of outdoor seating in the courtyard for warmer weather. Very convenient location with tram stop about 50 yards from the door.

    « Perfectly nice hotel »

Stayed here for 1 night The good: Bed was comfy Location good to get to rest of Lyon Kebab shop next door Staff were friendly The bad Shower was rubbish Bathroom and room inferno hot, could not work out to turn off heating For €13, breakfast not great value Overall would recommend staying here

« Good city hotel at a sensible price »

Location is excellent - a 5 minute simple walk from Perasse Station. Pleasant staff. We had a nice room, a reasonable size, very light - with a (very) little balcony overlooking the park and church. It was a bit hot so we had the window open- noisy with children playing at times, but very pleasant. A kettle/tea/coffee available. There were a few problems- the third night we got back at midnight having been out all day to find our room had not been made up! The worst about that was that we had run out for tea- greatly needed at that moment. The night receptionist found us some - all was OK and a suitable financial recompense was provided in the morning. Another problem was at breakfast (simple but OK) there was no one around to ask for missing things- (in my case the necessary Tea- every sort of special fruit tea you could think off, but no simple ordinary black tea). We were at a conference. Most of our colleagues were at other hotels nearby and talking to them, I think we did very well at Hotel Charlemagne. We would come again.

    « chauve souris »

We have stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights.Very well place near at the railways station .Nearby the hotel used to be a supermarche and also a church. In the evenings a batman has come every night an used to stay in the niche placed in balcony. For all night. He was coming froom the tower of the church.Anyway, large room and large bathroom, very clean, friendly stuff. It was good as position because we have made one day trip to VIENNE,a lovely town 40 min by train from LYON..Also AMPERE the physician used to live in the neighbourhood. We were here in august 2008.

    « Pleasant stay »

Splendid and clean room Excellent decoration Spacious bathroom Friendly staff Good price for it's class (90 eur for 1 double room) Offers underground parking at a good price (15eur per 24h) Location near the heart of Lyon, and the train station

    « Nice location »

The location was good near the train station and big shopping centre. The staff were lovely and the room was quiet big. The room needed a bit of TLC but nothing major, a celling lamp would have been nice as it was a bit dark with only the two side table lamps. The kids had a big sofa-bed to share and the double bed was really comfy. The free WiFi was excellent!

« Somewhat disappointing this time »

Stayed many times here. Normally always very happy because of excellent location, fine rooms & service. Awkwardly, this time I didn't feel welcome, got the smallest room w/o space to use the water boiler in a reasonable way, while the hotel was pretty much empty and despite being a BW Platinum member (probably even Diamond), Still, the Charlemagne remains a favorite in Lyon and 1 disappointing stay will not stop me from booking there again.

« First stop in France »

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour group. It was the first stop on a 2 week tour. The hotel was nice in a couple of buildings. We had to go out one building through a garden to get to the building where our room was located. It wasn't a problem because the weather was nice. The room was a nice size but could have used a safe. It had a queen-sized bed that was comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was very good.

« Above average Best Western in central location »

Room (205) was well-furnished, clean and comfortable and had a bright modern bathroom. No fridge nor safe but not really a problem. This room benefited from a balcony facing Cour Charlemagne offering views and sounds of the busy street, including the trams! All part of the atmosphere. Good quality continental breakfast with plenty of choice. Small comfortable bar area and good size reception. Close to Perrache station and one-stop journey to TGV Part DIeu. Close to shops and restaurants. Would be more than happy to return.

    « Unhelpful Staff »

Stayed here for 2 nights the hotel was pretty average but totally unhelpful staff. Definitely would not recommend this hotel until the staff receive customer care training. Service in lounge bar non existent, breakfast staff more interested in feeding themselves and on departure due to workmen at main entrance door we had to drag our suitcases with no help through the back of reception and through two small offices. Overall a very unsatisfactory stay.

    « 3rd stay in the Charlemagne »

Well situated nearby metro/bus/rail station, walking distance from Place Bellecour (shopping) and old city (sightseeing and evenings out). I love the spacious superior rooms, the unlimited coffee supply and simply the fact that everything works as it should :) Perfect stay once again (3rd)

    « Excellent »

Stayed earlier in July for two nights and stayed on the sixth floor. Hotel bright and quiet breakfast enjoyable. Staff throughout the building were very friendly and efficient. Hotel is located close to station and lots of restaurants and bars as well as a tram stop. Recommended

    « Great choice »

Perfect location by a nice park, central train station near by, available parking. The hotel is pretty basic but very clean and nice with a sweet balcony restaurant. Great value for money, would definitely recommend this place!

« Good but basic, no fridge in room »

In a business trip to Lyon, I stayed at Best Western Charlemagne for five nights in February. Location: only a few minutes walk from TGV Perrache Station. You can hop on a tram from the stop in front of the hotel (Suchet) and reach Debourg or Part-Dieu without change, which is convenient. For daily shopping, the Confluence Shopping Centre is less than ten minutes walk to the south or two stops by tram, and there is a Carrefour. However, beware that the hotel is in the developing area with a mixed atmosphere. Not comparable to the fancy area near Bellecour. Room: Superior Single room I got was clean, spatious enough for myself, and had a balcony looking to the nearby church. Bathroom was also spatious and brightly lit. There was no fridge in the room and I used the balcony to chill some of my drinks (well, it was winter). Staff: I asked for an early check-in and they let me check me in the morning. Facilities: there seems to be a restaurant in the courtyard but I didn't use it and so has no comment.

« Comfortable clean convenient hotel in mixed neighbourhood. »

Comfortable room with a balcony overlooking the church and leafy grounds. Large French doors opening to the balcony were very welcome in hot weather. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful in a large room opening onto courtyard giving the option to have a relaxed open air breakfast. A large outdoor seating area and covered walkway between accommodation blocks, with plants and seating are inviting. Most of the staff are very helpful and multilingual. Negative side: The lifts are small and some corridors are dimly lit. There are many eating places nearby but take hotel advice before choosing one. The neighbourhood is very mixed and in places a bit seedy. In some nearby streets, ladies of the night start work by late afternoon.

« Worse hotel stay of my life! »

This hotel doesn't care about its patrons. First, the location is not the best, second their restaurant recommendations are terrible and the directions they give to get to a restaurant has you walking all over the place asking for help. The reporting of issues doesn't get any response. I will not recommend this hotel. The air conditioner didn't work and we were told to just open a window when the weather was stormy. The rooms are old and need updating. I'm still waiting to hear fro the manager on my complaints, but as usual, all you get id lip service and no response or trying to satisfy a customer!

    « très agréable »

The hotel has a very nice bar and fine outdoor settings to enjoy open air gathering with friends. The service and the quality of breakfast is excellent. We can recommend this hotel, which is in walking distance to the beautiful old town center.
