The bed is so hard it felt like sleeping on the floor. The pillows were equally hard.The food was not bad, the wine was great. The room was very clean. The tv is too small for the distance from the bed, if it was mounted on a bracket that extended out from the wall that would be better. It is inconvenient that they only give you one room key. We were there with a tour group so a different hotel was not an option. This was a big letdown from the hotel in Rome.

Nice modern hotel. The room was clean and spacious. Staff were very friendly and helpful, the bar staff particularly so. We didn't have breakfast but the food and service at dinner was good. Plenty of parking at the rear. There are several local bars, restaurants, and supermarkets nearby and Lucca centre is about 25 minutes walk.

Very comfortable stay, welcomed on arrival and room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful each day, special thanks to Gabrielle who was always helpful in the morning. Only marked the hotel down because of the frustrating internet always logging you out and requiring new passwords.

It's a very good hotel. It's located on the outskirts of town, so you need a car and the parking there is ample and free. Excellent staff. We got an upgrade and the room was immaculate. Good breakfast.

Stayed for 3 nights as part of a Riveira Tour of Tuscany. Efficient front desk, checked in quickly, and had a good sized room on the second floor, overlooking fields at the back of the hotel, so very quiet. Hotel is fairly large, modern, part of the Great Western chain, about 2Km outside of Lucca, ideal for touring as facilities appeared fairly basic (E.g. no swimming pool or spa). Breakfast reasonable - buffet style with usual selection of hot and cold options although coffee from a machine is far from ideal! Dinner was good and service throughout was efficient and friendly.

Situated only a short distance from the old city and with good facilities and plenty of parking, this hotel is a great base for Lucca and surrounding areas. Borrow a bike and cycle into Lucca or into the countryside

Highly recommended! Safe, clean, modern.....Will come back for my next business trip. They also had a very nice setup for our dog. Although we had to pay 12 Euro per night, they did provide a bed, bowls, pads, food and some free gifts.

Overall it is just a cheap hotel to stop by during a long trip. The dimension of the room is the only plus of this stay. The guys at the reception look like rookies, the room was probably fine 30years ago, now it looks just old. The breakfast completely useless (way better to select a random bar in Lucca center). Just avoid it and select a better one…it should not be so difficult.

Stayed here recently on a family trip to Luca (which is a beautiful city) and stayed here which is bit outside the old walled city. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and we were upgraded at no extra charge to two interconnected rooms instead a family room. The breakfast selection was good and staff friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended and would stay here again if in the area.

Clean, great service and a wonderful area. We had a family room booked but were upgraded to connecting rooms which gave us two bathrooms. There was jo extra charge. beautiful calm area and minutes from Lucca which is a hidden gem.

My family of three stayed in a family room for three nights. The room was extremely large with two separate bedrooms, one with a king and one with two twins, a table and chairs, and a spacious bathroom. Parking was free and a complimentary breakfast was available. The staff was kind and helpful. Bed was a little firm but otherwise fine. The only thing is that you are far from the center of town here so only stay if you have a way to get around. I paid 133 Euro per night and found that an excellent deal given the size of the room.

..but it's far away from downtown. So keep this in mind if you want to book it. The offer bikes rentals if you feel like strolling to downtown, which is not a bad idea (book it in advance). We didn't stay for breakfast by choice, but the additional price seems reasonable. Parking is free.

Good service at reception, free parking, firm bedding. Breakfast buffet offers variety of food, sadly the eggs are always cold when you hit the table. One coffee machine for hundreds of people beats the Covid spacing restrictions. Minimum setting of tea and coffee in the room. But ok for short stay, quiet at night. Bar service is limited and slow.

In October we had a wonderful stay once again at the Best Western Grand Hotel Guinigi. So many things make this hotel special but most of all it is the staff with their warm welcome and very efficient, professional manner. Nothing is too much trouble for them, whatever the request. As you can imagine this can make a lot of difference to the enjoyment of your holiday. We stayed in an executive suite on this visit but have stayed in standard rooms previously too. The rooms are spacious, very clean and cosy. Breakfast arrangements have had to change since the onset of the pandemic but a wide variety of food options are served by the very courteous and friendly staff. The only slight disappointment I can think of is the coffee from the machine which could be better. Everything else was perfect. We stayed for dinner on our last night and wished we had dined there more as we had an excellent meal. Many thanks to all the staff for your great kindness and courtesy.

I recently stayed at the BW Grand Luinigi for 2 nights, the hotel has a very nice reception and bar area as you walk in, check in was quick and easy. The room was very spacious and clean, a nice view over the mountains from the windows. A small mini bar with water was topped up daily. I did not eat dinner at the hotel only breakfast, this was served by one of the hotel staff as you entered the breakfast area. I am always up early so had no problem, but i could see quickly long que's were forming as more guests came down for their breakfast. I could see some people getting annoyed at the wait. The bar are is nice with an outside seating area, I have to say though the service is very slow, quite a long wait for drinks when it was not busy at all. Location is good for visiting the walled city but also a good location for work. I would stay again if in Lucca.

Excellent hotel. very clean room. Very kind staff. Good breakfast!!!. The rooms are very spacious. The very large parking area is also very convenient. To 5 minutes to the centre of lucca. I would recommend it!!!!!.

The location of the Grand Guinigi is ideal for both leisure and bus it travel. Only 2 miles from the walled city of Lucca but also close to the business areas, shopping and access to major roads to explore even further

Modern hotel 2,5 km from the city center. Wi-Fi ok but a bit cumbersome the double authentication. Airco, safe, fridge (complimentary water), iron board, hair dryer. Staff helpful, room and bathroom of decent size and very clean. Gym (access very limited to Covid). Rich breakfast (English and continental) served. Free open air car parking in the back. Exceptional price quality ratio.

The worst hotel experience I have encountered in Italy in nearly 30 years of travelling. The hotel is fine, the room is good; there it ends. It is as though the staff have been rigorously trained to be as rude, unpleasant, unprofessional and unhelpful as is humanly possible. From the moment of check-in, when two members of staff at reception deliberately chose to continue a, social, conversation (I speak good Italian, as I lived here for six years, I know what they were taking about) rather than attend to me standing there for almost five minutes it continued in this vein. Avoid at all costs; if I were to stay in Lucca again, I'd choose a bus-shelter over this place. Cancelling my Best Western Rewards account today.

Just stayed here for 2 nights. It was nice hotel. Wonderful lobby and elevator. The room is nice and big and bathroom. There is also a breakfast but when we came at 8:15 am there is a line of people until outside. For the social distance inside i guess. The place is not open but it is ok. So in end i didnt take my breakfast. At 2nd day i woke up so early for the breakfast and around 7am there is only few people inside.so i went there and the food is ok. To be honest i was supriced there is a lot of tourist here. This hotel is very busy in summer. I guess because it is near to visit the town of Lucca and Pisa.

A very nice and modern hotel, with quite spacious rooms / bathroom. The breakfast was contactless with waiters serving with a small but qualitative variety. The lobby is a beauty with nice seating areas and it is locate 2 klm. from Porta Elisa (Historic Centre).

A nice, comfortable stay. On a business trip, during Covid, amid tight restrictions. Fortunately the restaurant is open in this hotel for full service, while others are not. Service and food were excellent. Covid protections in place were also acceptable.

It was a pleasure to stay at this best western hotel. Very clean rooms, extreme attention to Covid-19 rules. Excellent food and service at the restaurant , reasonably priced. Staff was kind. Was on a business trip this time but will definitely be back with the family

We stayed here in July whilst on our Italy road trip. We used a total of 6 hotels/apartments during our trip but this was our fave. The family room was huge with two rooms inside so the kids had one room and us another and a large bathroom, table and chairs and all ammeneties we could need. The staff were very helpful circling places of interest on a map so we could find our way around and breakfast was full of options for all 4 of us to have a happily full stomach before a long drive :) would love to visit again in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. The rooms are huge, very spacious. It is modern and clean. Beds are big and very comfortable. We requested rooms with interleading doors, which they provided. The bathroom is also big and modern. As we were with a tour group, at dinner and breakfast we were restricted to only certain tables in the dining hall which we could occupy. Breakfast does not cater adequately for vegetarians.

Not the most memorable stay with two sick children, but the rooms were spacious, bathrooms spotless and air conditioned. Slept well without any doors banging. Breakfast was great and catered to all, hotel is off the beaten track, but parking was secure and location was close to a great supermarket.

Our room was large, bright and quiet. The front desk staff were very helpful and efficient. The buffet breakfast was good and the buffet dinner was excellent with excellent service supervised by a very engaged maitre d. We rented bicycles at the hotel for the day and rode into Lucca - through the streets of the old center as well as on the top of ramparts surrounding the center.

We stayed for four nights at the Grand Hotel. We had not prebooked and asked to see the rooms when we arrived and chose the suite on the top floor which was spacious, quiet and good value for money. All staff we encountered were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Good choice for breakfast and we had one evening meal (because the weather was poor) which was fine and again good value. The bar is dead with very few guests using it. The location was a five minute drive to the city walls where there was plenty of parking just outside the walls. There is also a bus service immediately outside the hotel which is runs every half hour. The hotel itself has excellent free parking. As other have mentioned the decor is dated but comfortable. It was no big deal for us. We would definitely use this hotel if we were returning to Lucca

The external appearance of the hotel is not impressive, and rooms are somewhat sad. By contrast, receptionists are very kind and supportive, and prices are very convenient. A good business hotel fro working and resting.

Hotel is about 25-35 mins walk from Lucca depending upon how hot the day is! Room was a good size, nice to have a kettle, although coffee & milk weren't always replaced. Breakfast was very good except no fresh fruit. Staff are friendly and very helpful, very quick to give jugs of coffee at Breakfast. Reception staff excellent, we had a couple of issues with the Safe not working properly and needing softer pillows, both resolved very quickly. We were on a tour, stayed for four nights, ate in hotel on three nights, food was good varied and hot, service in the restaurant good. A good base for seeing Lucca.

We had a lovely 4 day stay, excelent hotel with friendly staff. Breakfast a treat @3 Euros. Good bus service which however ends early evening. Taxi service from the city is non-existent. Dreadful. A 2 mile walk back after a lovely evening in lovely Lucca. Just be ready.....

I stayed here for four nights as part of an organised tour. Check-in was easy and the staff friendly. The room was spacious and clean. We ate in the hotel on three evenings and the food was very good, usually four courses. Breakfast had a variety of hot and cold options and was adequate but there was no fresh fruit prepared. The hotel is about a 25 minute walk to the city walls. There is a bus stop outside which takes you into town or you can rent a bicycle at the hotel for €2 an hour. There is also a large supermarket about 5 mins away by bicycle. I would recommend this hotel but I would look for one slightly closer to the city centre unless I had a car.

This hotel offers all the services and facilities at a location easily accessible by car with plenty of parking at a reasonable price. It's within reasonable distance from the historic centre of Lucca.

We stayed here 4 nights as part of a Riviera tour group of 47. The rooms are large and have all the amenities that a good modern hotel should have- tea and coffee making facilities, safe, fridge with mini bar, flat screen tv, desk and 2 chairs. We stayed on a half-board basis. The food every evening was good and varied, usually a four course meal. Staff were very attentive and efficient. Buffet breakfast had lots of hot and cold choices. The hotel is just on the outskirts of Lucca town, about a 20minute walk, and on the LamBlu bus route.

The hotel is one of the better Best Westerns however it wasn't our choice but our friends decided they wanted us to stay there with them for the 4 night stay whilst visiting Lucca and Pisa etc. The waiting staff in the restaurant were all excellent however the reception staff didn't seem very interested in pleasing the customer. The hotel was very clean including our double room on the fourth floor...no bath but an adequate shower. The main downside for this 4* hotel was the lack of hair shampoo in the bathroom. We always stay in 4* and above hotels and although they may not offer hair conditioner, they all have had hair shampoo so much so I never carry any in my wash bag. I asked at reception and they said the rooms had soap and shower gel but not for the use of hair washing! Overall I would rate this hotel as definately a 3* hotel.

We'll definitely stay here again if we're visiting the area. Clean modern rooms, good air-conditioning. They gave us 2 adjoining rooms. 5-minute drive to the walled city. The breakfast is the best in all our hotel stays in Italy. We stayed in 9 hotels throughout our 25 day trip in Italy.

I stayed with a group and I thought the service was very good, The room was clean and I had a walk in shower. The food was good. The only downside was that it was 2 miles from the centre of Lucca. There was a bus though and the stop was across the road about a three minute walk. The staff were very helpful.

We have been regular visitors to this hotel - every time we visit Lucca this is our hotel of choice. This time we were delighted to see that the outside of the hotel has been redesigned to provide outside bar seating - this has made it perfect as it was the only thing lacking. The air con is superb & the staff are really helpful. Breakfast is always very good & the location is handy for the old walled city & lots of other places. Looking forward ot returning in 2021.

Interesting hotel for an over night stay provided by Globus. This was the least of the hotels that was used by Globus. A base for touring the sights around the area. Not to excited about the help or facilities.

Found this to be a very comfortable hotel, goodish breakfast, pleasant, helpful staff good sized ,well appointed rooms , very clean, well worth a visit, only downside , slightly away from Lucca centre but easy to get there by foot Bike taxi, whatever, in fact the No 6 bus stops right outside !

This quality hotel is located a good walk or taxi from the Old Town of Lucca. Immediately what is impressive is the friendliness and helpful attitude of the reception staff. The rooms are a good size and have everything required including free WiFi, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, safety deposit box, fridge, and desk. I did not try breakfast so unfortunately cannot comment, but I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We were warmly welcomed by the reception staff and they were very helpful when we had questions to ask. The room was great, clean and comfortable. The shower was strong. The staff at the bar and breakfast were lovely. How anyone can complain about the breakfast. I don't know. €3 for great espresso, hot food, warm danish, loads of fruit, cheese, meat and cakes... It isn't 5* as it is too far out of Lucca, 40 minute walk. The number 6 bus runs once or twice an hour but stops at 8pm. There are a few pizza places nearby, and the one just past the hotel was lovely.

This is a great hotel outside of the walled city of Lucca . You can drive or bike to the walled city, if you drive you park in the designated areas an pay for parking f you bike you can bike all inside the walled city. this hotel does provide bikes. We had a suite with a balcony it was lovely living room area and bedroom . beds extremely comfortable and a huge bathroom with shower and large whirlpool tub. Staff very helpful and accommodating .

The location of the hotel is not convenient to the town nearby. The hotel itself was clean and typical of a modern hotel. The breakfast buffet was average, but adequate. The staff at this hotel were downright rude with the exception of the dining room attendants that were taking care of the buffet. The bartender was especially rude, he acted as if he didn't want to be bothered, not once but the entire time we were there. When checking out there was a young lady who was friendly, but the man who appeared to be the front desk manager was rude to me and his staff. I doubt that I will be back at this hotel mainly because of its location and the rudeness of staff.

Not really within walking distance of the centre of Lucca but buses and taxis are fairly cheap and easy. Staff were pleasant and those in the restaurant especially so. Breakfast offered a good choice but it is best to avoid arriving the same time in the dining room as parties of American or Chinese tourists as things can get a bit frantic. Internal facing room a bit gloomy but clean, quiet and comfortable. Recently refurbished external area to the front was a pleasant sitting area in the good weather.

Short stay and group family stay? Don't expect much from this place. The staff are exceptionally rude, arrogant and obnoxious. The room is however clean, bed comfortably firm and window view of the surrounding mountains beautiful. Breakfast was ordinary. Can't recommend it. Interaction with multiple rude staff made this experience poor. Will not be returning.

We stayed here as part of a group tour. It is about 10 min by car from the city center. The hotel is just ok. Room was clean, but a bit stuffy. Bathroom was a decent size. Breakfast was lacking. We got there when it opened and the hot food was already cold. Typical eggs, bacon, bread, yoghurt, fruit. They ran out of croissants quickly, though to be fair the guests went through the breakfast table like locusts. Several people had problems with their keys not working. The front desk was helpful in arranging a restaurant reservation and arranging a cab back to Lucca. Tip if you want to watch the news in English: go to channel 2, wait 5 seconds then hit 2 again. You will then have channels 2, 3, 4 in English.

Hotel located quite far from city centre. Mainly used by large groups of bus tourists. Taxi after dinner to go from Lucca center to hotel costs 17 euro. As they leave early the cohort of american and chinese tourists are sure to wake you up as they start moving through the corridors shortly after 6 am. On the bright side: good breakfast, okay rooms and extremely helpful and friendly staff.

we were surprised that the hotel was mainly used by bus tourists..mainly germans and americans when we were there for 4 nights. Location is not in Lucca city center. Traffic in old city center is only allowed for locals and taxi's. Taxi from hotel to city center costs about 19 euro. Hotel food quality is poor. we had a specialty Tuscan dinner which was so bad.Breakfast bread was often just double baked, 2 or 3 das old... In Lucca city are nice trattoria's with good food. Hotel TV channel choice poor, CNN almost not visible.

Conference/Family hotel at about 5-10 min car from Lucca's historical center. This is not a problem due to the possibility to rent a bike or take a bus. We spent two nights in the family room that is composed of 2 rooms (1 with double beds and a table)and bathroom with bathtub and shower. Clean and tidy as expected. A bit noisy taking into account that the room is just above the entrance, but nothing too be worried too much. My son and my daughter appreciated a lot the play room for kids at the end of a corridor. Very good breakfast with products for babies and children. We have not taken advantage of gym room, sauna and restaurant.

I have been using this hotel for many years and I find it really excellent. The staff is very professional and helpful. The breakfast is superb. It is close to all points of my interest, including some excellent restaurants. Marco

Not only us but nearly the whole Riviera travel party will inform you that this hotel is 2 star at best and you are just wasting alot of money. No outside space at all and situated in a poor location 30 min plus walk outside of the beautiful walled city of Lucca. Way overpriced holiday. Trust me , you will be disappointed unless you have set the bar low and can put up with a clean and tidy hotel with no other attributes, we paid nearly £3000 for the the 8 day holiday and can't travel with Riviera again. Totally insulted by a £200 refund !

We stayed here for three nights and were very pleased. Our room was very spacious and clean. The beds were big and had comfortable hard matrasses and pillows. We used the fitness room several times. It is small but serves its purpose. Breakfast was very good with a big selection of different foods and drinks. We booked this hotel via an agency and a free three course dinner was included in the price. This was the only disappointing thing, as we only got 2 courses for free and we got a separat menu, with lower quality not so nice meals as in the regular menu.

We stayed here one night on tour. Large room. A/C was shut off or set at plus Plus 22 Celsius. Window opened and it was cool and rainy so it was comfortable. Ourtside of Lucca with narrow sidewalk going short distances. Residential area but on a main road. Room was quiet and comfortable and overlooked a field. No place in bathroom to put toiletries, soap was in squeeze bottles attached to the wall. Bright night lites under the night stands so covered them up to sleep. Ate at the hotel as that was the only place to eat. Limited menu but food was good, had soup, pork, ravioli. Service was good as well but hotel is too far from the city centre and not walkable to anywhere.

We had a fabulous room, normally too pricey for us, but a great deal worked out by our booking agency. From our balcony we had a wonderful view of the Lucca skyline in the distance at sunset. It is definitely not walking distance to the walled old city, but we read that the hotel has bikes available (although, we didn't see any). We knew it wasn't in the center of all the activity, but we actually liked that since we were driving. The thing we didn't like is that there isn't much around the hotel, like restaurants or coffee shops or places to get gelato. To be honest, we didn't see much to recommend Lucca despite good advance press, and would have stayed elsewhere, but that's not the fault of the hotel. If you are going to Lucca, this is definitely a place to compare.

Previously hotels advertised as 4 star under the company we dealt with had been excellent. This hotel bore no comparison to any other genuine 4 star hotel we had been to. No one ever appeared to be offered assistance with their luggage. Polystyrene type cups in the room for tea and coffee. No lounge. No comfortable seating within the bar area. No outside seating or garden at all. Directly on a main road way beyond the outskirts of the city. Breakfasts was just about adequate. Dinner was very poor.

A great city break. Grand Hotel Guinigi, a Best Western, was clean friendly and frankly first class.The ancient city of Lucca was as described picturesque, friendly and its buildings interesting.We would certainly repeat this city break.

The room is simple, clean and spacious with minimal amenities. I have no problem bringing my own slippers and toiletries for environmental protection, but I really can't understand why they only provide disposable paper and plastic cups in the room. Breakfast is simple and basic. I'll be happier if there is some other friut choices other than green apple. At least 3 groups of tour stays in the hotel on the day. 房間清潔簡單，但只含基本設備，沒有拖鞋，洗護用品只有肥皂，浴露，沒有其他。房間內只有即棄紙杯和膠杯，這樣不太方便亦不環保，需要改善。

This hotel was used on our tour for its convenience to Central Lucca, La Spezia and The Tuscan farm areas. Most importantly, our room was clean. The breakfast area was very busy/crowded. No cappuccino or espresso machines, so that was disappointing. They are investing in improvements as they were painting the outside of the building while we were there. For us, the location was too long of a walk to central Lucca.

Attempts are being made to upgrade the hotel. At present it is certainly not what many would expect of a four star establishment. Bedrooms and bathrooms are of a good standard. No toiletrieswere offered.There is a high level of cleanliness - except carpets, which in many places do need to be cleaned. The front of the hotel has been given a clean white coating and plans show that a much needed outside area with chairs and tables is being provided. At present there is no pool area, terrace or garden in which to relax after a day sightseeing. The restaurant staff cope well with the large groups that use the hotel as a base. Bus tickets are sold at reception for a frequent bus service to the main square in Lucca, leaving from the front of the hospital located across the road.

The room was ok, of average size and quite clean. The breakfast was poor and it had just a few options. The main problem of the hotel is that it is far away from the city. On foot it takes you a full hour to get to the first gate and the taxi costs 15 euros per round.That is 30 euros in sum. Fortunately we were six people so we go to share a cab for six instead of taking two!

A reasonable sized bedroom with fully equiped en suite. But the shower in the bath is difficult and dangerous to negotiate for elderly persons. The room is similar in style to that of a travel lodge, but has been poorly upgraded. The hotel is kept very clean with excellent room maid service and plenty of soap, bodywash, tissues, shower cap and toilet paper. The staff at reception were very helpful and at least one could always understand english. The breakfast was satisfactory, self service with a wide range if alternatives to suit most tastes. The staff in the breakfast room numbered up to eight at the same time and most spent time chatting in a group. Their dress code left something to be desired and they did not all behave as you would expect in this type of hotel. One male persistently sang out loud to the music, which sounded awful, he appeared to be the senior staff, and didn't even wear a shirt. The hotel could save a lot of money on labour, only two good people could have easily covered all the tables and coffee. The evening meal was similarly overstaffed. We ate in the restaraunt on the first night, as we were tired after travelling all day. A big mistake, the food was disgusting and poorly cooked and badly presented, the chef should be embarassed to provide such poor quality food. We ate out for the rest of the week and had some superb meals. This hotel is ok for a few nights if you are eating out in the evenings. There is no where to sit outside and relax with a drink. The bar is uncomfortable with a cafe style table and chairs. No atmosphere in the bar at all. Dissappointed is an understatement. If you are visiting Lucca to relax, I recommend you stay somewhere in the old city, not here.

If you want to visit the nice city of Lucca and you have a car, you must stay at this hotel. The quality of service is great. The rooms are quite comfortable. The breakfast is fabulous. It is good for couples and families. Definitely recommended.

Excellent hotel about 25 minutes walk to the city of Lucca.. Excellent base for anyone attended the Lucca music festival. Rooms have air conditioning. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and found the breakfast satisfying. Only negative points - no balcony and no English channels on TV (not the end of the world for the time spent in the room)

Hotel is a little outside of the city center, around 2kms and in order to reach town you need to get the bus or a taxi. If you do not mind of this, hotel offers very nice, spacious and comfortable rooms, will all necessary amenities and a very quick wifi connection. Furthermore, breakfast is very nice and they have a great restaurant with really gourmet approach. Staff very polite, friendly and there to help in whatever you need. We strongly suggest as old city center is very crowded and buildings are old - especially in the summer

Very well decorated double room for single use. Came with a tour group for the Puccini festival. A/C worked perfectly and with outside temperatures of up to 37 degrees this was essential. Wi-Fi tricky and not very strong. Staff helpful over this. There were tea/coffee making facilities in room. I felt that only supplying single use plastic glasses and polystyrene cups in the room was not in keeping with a **** hotel. About one and a half kilometres from central Lucca buses ran half-hour from outside Breakfast mediocre and limited. Evening meal although no choice for us was excellent. House wine very reasonable. My main complaint was that there were no balconies or any outside seating area around the hotel although there was plenty of room front and back. The public rooms were very attractive.

Not in the old city, about twenty minutes walk away, but served by several bus routes, this hotel is functional and much used by tour groups. Lovely and clean with very welcoming staff, they are all keen to make your stay enjoyable. No frills - no pool, nowhere to sit outside - but food that is better than one might anticipate. Wifi good and free. All the rooms are spacious and bright - and well-lit, which is not always the case.

We stayed in a large two bedroom comfortable family room, clean hotel, good breakfast and free parking, good wi-fi connection, located a few kilometres from Lucca. Some staff members were unprofessional.

This hotel is for those who like to walk. It was 25 minutes on a fast walk to get inside the city walls. Upon arrival, There was a non-working safe in our room. Also AC was not working in our room upon arrival. Both were fixed relatively quickly because our tour guide was involved. Dinner at the hotel in the group room was okay, but typical hotel fare, chicken in an unnamed sauce, a not ripe fresh tomato with decent mozzarella cheese. Only because our guide insisted that the hotel put the centrally controlled AC down lower, was the room cool enough to use their cover at night. I stepped on a pit (prune or peach) on the floor of my room. Cleaning personnel either left it or or it was there from the previous guests. Breakfast nothing special and NO FRESH FRUIT in summer season. Canned pears and peaches.

I've been at Grand Hotel Guinigi with my partner and we have been there for three days. The staff there were so cold and with an entry attitude that me and my partner were really surprised. No hello, no good bye and even not how are you today? For breakfast the responsabile was screaming all the time with other staff and trainer people as well. No way No more in that place!

We choose to stay in Lucca and stopped to this hotel. The personal was very friendly and attentive . We had the diner at the restaurant. The food was excellent and the waiter and the cook did their best for our children to reach their requirements and ours. The room was well cleaned and VERY spacious with a bathtub in it! Furthermore, the spot is very quit and that's help for a good sleep ??. Was a very pleasant stay that I recommend to families.

Recently returned from a 4 day visit. We had a spacious suite on the top floor. Room was good very clean and comfortable,no english channel on the tv so not an asset. Should have some english channels. Restaurant food only ok, very limited. Breakfast st 3 euros an incredible bargain! The staff on reception,except for the lady who checked us out, were very unwelcoming, did not greet us ,some customer service training needed. Staff did not smile looked bored and miserable. The previous 10 days were spent at the hotel garden in siena and their staff were wonderful and the contrast with the guinigi staff were worlds apart.

This hotel is okay. Rooms clean and well serviced. Breakfast was good, with fresh fruit and hot options. Bed and pillows exceptionally hard. Staff friendly and helpful. Wifi patchy. It's a little out of the old town of Lucca.

We had a suite in this modern hotel at the edge of the city, approximately a 2kms reasonably direct walk from Porta Elisa. Since we had driven quite a way to get there we were pleased to be able to park our car, and leave it at the hotel. There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel entrance. The receptionists were friendly and our suite, on the top floor, was perfect, everything we needed was there including a deep bath and a good shower. The small, private terrace was perfect for us as we just wanted to relax after sightseeing all day in the beautiful city of Lucca. We slept really well as the bedroom was very quiet. Breakfast was very good each day, we didn't dine in the restaurant so I can't comment on that. We plan to return!

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour and found it decidedly mediocre. The location is well out of Lucca yet the hotel has little to occupy the prisoners, sorry I mean guests. Despite acres of outside space there is no where to enjoy the sunshine and the only seating is in the bar. The room was adequate though storage is short on hangers and the only plug for the brewing facilities is at floor level under a table. The bathroom had everything but the shower was in a tiny plastic enclosure so there was little wriggle room. The breakfast was poor and the communal evening meal was served out from a central table like the workhouse in Oliver Twist. This may have been down to the price negotiated by the tour company but it was very degrading. This is a commercial hotel and should never be considered by tourists.

Convenient location? Not really. Rush hour traffic just to get here is bad. The hotel itself is very clean with large rooms for European standards. Nice king size bed, firm and comfortable. Large bathroom. No shampoo. Asked for some at the front desk and they gave us body wash. Stayed here two nights. Did dinner here our second night. Food is average, nothing outstanding. Breakfast is better. Overall, OK hotel, just in a busy location near the city limits.

We recently stayed for 2 nights to explore the wonders Lucca has to offer. The hotel itself is a little way out of the city, and although other reviews say it is walkable, we didn't think so, especially as most of the days were spent walking, exploring this unique city. There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel, with buses arriving every 30 minutes Monday to Saturday, and a further bus stop a little walk away with a more frequent service. Our room was at the back of the hotel on the fourth floor, which proved to be quiet with lovely views towards the mountains. The room was perfectly appointed, spacious and comfortable with very tasteful décor, a huge bed and a fabulous shower. Breakfast had everything we needed and was heartily enjoyed, although some may expect more choice. The breakfast and housekeeping staff were very friendly and polite. Special mention must go to our barman who introduced us to a gorgeous wine and was extremely helpful and friendly.The only downside to our stay was our first and last impressions provided by some of the reception staff. They did not seem to recognise the importance of a friendly greeting or arriverderci. They were efficient but lacked a basic warmth in their hospitality skills, which I am sure many travellers would expect from a hotel of this calibre. We left an item of clothing in the room upon leaving and this was returned to us quickly, after a couple of emails - thank you to the staff involved in organising this. I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again but would hope the first and last impressions could be improved upon.

We stayed here in September on the first part of the Riviera Travel Pisa, the Cinque Terra and Portofino tour. The points I have made in my title have been well covered in previous reviews so I won't go over old ground.. I cannot think of anything positive to say about this hotel apart from the barman who was efficient and friendly. To cap it off, on the final night they had the audacity to ask everyone for a tip! I had read the unfavourable reviews about this hotel on Trip Advisor and Riviera Travel's own website so I emailed RT to express my concerns and was assured all the issues had been resolved. Clearly this was not true, poor customer service Riviera Travel.

Stayed here for two as part of our tour of Italy. No amenities such as shampoo or conditioner though the rooms were decent. Very average food in the hotel. Lousy location as difficult to get to the town of Lucca unless you bicycle or take a taxi.

This hotel was the first stop on our 11day tour of the Tuscan region. We stayed here for 3 days during which we visited some of the wonderful Tuscan sites. The hotel was very clean and the staff pleasant and friendly and provided all of our breakfasts and wonderful Italian dinners which included all the wine we needed. We spent every day visiting historic sights, touring the various farms and having our local family lunches where we sampled their wonderful wines. The family's wineries were small but all grew both grapes and olives. Some days we even visited two separate wineries. It was a wonderful experience for all of us "retired" Air Force vets.

We first came here in 2016, and were so impressed by (i) the value for money) and (ii) the quality of the restaurant, so we came back to Lucca and the Grand Guinigi this year. We had an equally good experience.

we stayed here as part of a Riviera Tour around Italy for 4 nights.The rooms are quite large but very basic and the Hotel is in and area where there is nothing around and would take a good 30 minutes to walk into Lucca on a very busy road.There are no gardens to sit in ..just the bar and reading room inside. As part of the group there were 8 vegetarians who were very poorly catered for ...main meals included cheese and tomatoes grilled veg another night which frankly were quite inedible..after complaining we got a vegetable Lasagne made which was very nice but minuscule in size ..around 3 inches square and served with nothing else... very poor food for the Veggies of the group..and the Hotel had been informed of our arrival by our rep so there was no excuse for this poor food. Breakfasts were ok but very limited choice once again ,

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel - as a part of a tour of Tuscany with Riveria Travel The hotel is ok but has some negatives It is located a few kms away from the city centre - which isn't ideal as would take 30 minutes too walk but you can take a bus - but it does mean you are less liable to go into town in the evenings The rooms are large and modern - with good facilities but no English TV Reception staff are pleasant and helpful There is a large car park at the back of the hotel Breakfast was adequate - but a small and limited selection of items - for example only one type of fruit juice (grapefruit) and one type of cheese. The coffee was undrinkable Our evening dinners were included and were very basic - with service slow. There were 8 vegetarians in our group and they were poorly catered for - which is a great disappointment as Italy has fantastic vegetarian food. Our group complained and by the end of the stay things did improve a little I suspect people who stayed independently and not a part of a tour - and who choose the a'la carte menu would have had a better experience in relation to the food Overall - the hotel is ok but nothing special

The rooms were spacious and clean but poor selection of toiletries. The bathroom was spacious and spotless. However, the breakfast had a very poor choice for a four star and the evening meal was nothing remarkable. In addition it was a brisk 30 minute walk from Lucca itself and the walk was along a dull and uninspiring route so a taxi straight there was the best option.

The hotel is worthy of its four star rating but breakfast was disappointing. I thought we had put tinned fruit behind us in the 1960s! This is really not acceptable. However, the rooms were pleasant and there was excellent service in the bar. A very charming and professional barman and a good selection of 'nibbles' to accompany drinks. We were staying with a fairly large group and dinners were adequate but not exceptional. Sadly we found the location of the hotel just a little too far out from the centre. It would have been lovely to be able to walk into town in the evenings but 3kms there and 3kms back was just too much.

Stayed for 3 nights & as always this hotel never lets us down. Rooms are spacious, bed is huge, air con is superb. Breakfast is very good also - typical Italian fayre with the addition of scrambled eggs & bacon. Location is very good - the bus to Lucca old town stops outside of the hotel & tickets can be purchased at reception. For those driving there is some parking at front of hotel & a large car park at back of hotel. Staff are helpful & speak good English. Only improvement could be the creation of some disabled parking spaces at the front

Just returned after four nights at this hotel and felt the need to comment on its all round excellence. Although a thirty minute walk to the city walls there are regular bus services so getting around is no problem. The staff were helpful and very friendly. The rooms very clean and comfortable but I must single out the restaurant and staff for special note. The food was of a very high standard and service attentive even on very busy evenings. Thanks for making our visit so special.

Great hotel (especially the rooms with the mountain/parking view) with an excellent breakfast (don't hesitate to pay the small surcharge) plus an excellent location to base out of to visit Pisa, Florence, even Cinq Terre. Highly recommend this hotel if you plan on being in the area.

Large clean room, huge bed, linen changed daily, and a good spread available at the buffet breakfast. Staff very friendly, informative, and helpful, with English spoken extremely well at reception and other service areas. Good parking available too, with a short ride on the bus to town centre.

Was visiting with our 2 children one who turned 18 when we there. The family room was really 2 separate rooms with a connecting door . Plenty of space , well decorated really pleasant and comfortable and exceptionally good value. Free onsite parking and plenty of it with plenty of space . Staff excellent , put in F1 in the bar for us so we could see Monza . It is a bit too far to walk in and out of the old town, Bur you can get a bus from the hospital which is 4 to 5 minute walk away. Lucca is a lovely vibrant place to visit

Very nice hotel, good room and service, me and my wife rented bikes from the hotel no problem there.It took about 35 minutes to walk between hotel and Theatrico central. Excellent breakfast, we stayed there for 8 nights, thank you, Einar Bjarna

This an excellent hotel with great facilities and and on the edge of the city walls. The rooms are large, spacious and comfortable. A little noisy on the long corridors Good views of the local scenery and good breakfast options and restaurant menu. Parking is the best facility. recommend this hotel for Lucca and areas

Lovely comfortable beds. Friendly staff and excellent service and food. Really enjoyed our stay. The showers were excellent. Possible to walk into town, but there is a good local bus for 1.20 euros and hotel reception sells tickets. Nothing is too much trouble, so the stay was very relaxing and Lucca is a wonderful destination.

We stayed one night for a trip to Luca enroute to central Tuscany. The rooms were a good size, clean, quiet and with proper blackout curtains, and the staff were friendly and helpful - only negative is that it was last redecorated when brown and mustard were trendy and that's an awfully long time ago. I guess that's reflected in the price..

Very good hotel, clean and nice, good air conditioning which was a must for us, Good parking lot behind the hotel and only 40 minuttes to pisa hotel. the only ting was the breakfast, it was too simple for that 4 star hotel. I have been eatung much better breakfast with much greater choice at same kindd of hotels.

We were thoroughly pleased with the Best Western. The rooms were well air-conditioned (unlike all other hotel rooms we have stayed at on our vacation in Italy). The beds were very comfortable. The staff was very courteous and extremely helpful. Best of all, the breakfast (only three euros per person!) is fabulous. The rooms do lack certain amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and an iron but, otherwise, we found we had everything we needed and we're very happy during our stay.

This hotel is a bit out from the old city center of Lucca and is a convenient base for tours to various locales in Tuscany. It is frequented by tours because of their large parking lot and also because busses are not allowed in the old part of the city. They have bicycles for loan, or a walk to the center is about 30 minutes, which is fine early and brutal at 11 or 5 when it is 32 degrees or higher. The rooms are large, the beds reasonably comfortable, the amenities minimal (a squeeze bottle of all purpose soap hanging by the sink and in the shower, a shower hat and a small bar of soap. The hair drier has two speeds - on and off and it would turn itself off for a few minutes at random moments (perhaps 7-8 times in the course of drying short hair. TV had two stations, in Italian. The breakfast is extensive and tasty. The restaurant menu had the usual items, but our tour did not include a meal there so I cannot comment on quality. WIFI was fast and free. If you want to be in the city center a step from the churches and historical sites, and in a boutique hotel, this is not the place for you. If you want a decent tour hotel that's 3 1/2 stars, you will not be disappointed.

Beautiful hotel near the center of Lucca. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and the rooms were very nice and comfortable. The chef was amazing, the dinner was delicious, and the waitstaff was fabulous!

We stayed here for two nights part of our Italian tour and thought it was a great hotel. Dinner last night was excellent as were the beds, pillows, rooms etc. My only negative was the attitude of some of the staff. Whilst they weren't rude, they certainly weren't friendly either. If they had been, I would've given the hotel a 5. Something to strive for.

Just returned from a week at this hotel and can't really fault it. The reception staff were all really friendly and helpful and even printed out train times for us when we were asking how to get to Florence. The breakfast buffet had plenty to choose from and the restaurant staff were very polite. Our room was spotlessly clean and the maids came in everyday with fresh towels and emptied the bins. We had a double room which overlooked the main road and to be honest the noise of the traffic didn't bother us at all. The biggest asset to the hotel in our opinion has got to be Domenico and Diana who work on the bar, both of whom are friendly and will go out of their way to help and advise, nothing was too much trouble! Would definitely stay here again if ever in Lucca.

Sadly we were only at this property for one night but really enjoyed it. We booked a suite, which was not that much more than a regular room, and it was worth it. With a separate bedroom, a living room and dinning area, the space was huge. The bonus was the terrace with a table and chairs. The private terrace overlook the hills and you could see the town as well. True it's outside of town, but that meant free parking as we were driving. It was quite convenient for us and we were sorry we had not booked a few more nights here.

great hotel, we organised some 30 rooms for an event. The hotel staff were fantastic and very helpful. The rooms are also very good as is the excellent breakfast. The hotel staff are also accommodating and provided help with taxi, and local guidance. This hotel is 20mins walk to Lucca City wall, and well worth seeing. The hotel restaurant is fantastic, the quality of food is very good and recommend this. Overall fantastic place/stay.

We booked this hotel on the back of some of the reviews on Trip Advisor and were disappointed. We did not find the reception staff very helpful, on arrival we went up to our room to find a double bed when we had booked a twin, on requesting it be split the response was that it would be done but tomorrow! It did happen when we went down for our breakfast the next day but would have been better done straight away. They were also unable to suggest or recommend how we would return from Lucca in the evening. The buses run regularly from 6am to 8:30pm and are a cheap way of getting into Lucca but the taxis can cost 15euros after 8:30pm. Lucca is a 30-40 minute walk from the hotel which we ended up doing on several occasions as neither of us drive abroad. The nearest restaurant is Mai Mai which is a 12 minute walk. Having said all that the room was clean and refreshed each morning whilst we were at breakfast. Unfortunately the tea and coffee were not replenished and we had no milk all the time we were there. Little things make a difference.

I would not use the adjective "grand" at this specific hotel. I didn't find anything "grand" about it. It was part of a tour package for a 1 night stop in Lucca. It was within walking distance to a bus stop (5 minute walk to a hospital complex), but nothing immediately else in terms of shops/amenities within a brief walk. The bus passes could be purchased at the front desk and that was very helpful.

We stayed here with our children and grandchildren. The rooms were large, with joining rooms for a family at a reasonable price. The hotel was clean, the staff was helpful, and the food was good. We ate at the hotel restaurant for one evening meal and two breakfasts. We had excellent food at every meal and our servers were especially kind and patient. They had a shorter table for little kids to get a few things they wanted for breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.

As usual Best Western is an excellent hotel with great amenities and just outside the city walls of Lucca. Rooms are big, airy and very comfortable. Great views of the Tuscan valley I highly recommend this hotel for everyone

We have been coming here for 5 years it is a fabulous Hotel and the staff are amazing, really make you feel welcome and looked after. The rooms are huge, many with great views over the Tuscan Countryside. The Guinigi is close to Lucca center, just 10 mins walk or 3 mins by car or you can take a Hotel bicycle right into central Lucca inside the two outer walls for easy access and parking... The Guinigi is an International Hotel so you will get to meet people from all over the world ws well as Business Professionals.. The Wifi internet is excellent on all five floors and is free as is the extensive Parking facilities. The Three spascious fast elevators are also marvellous in getting you around the Hotel. Reception is 24 hours And is multi lingual so early doors here to he..be home by, Francesco and Lorenzo will look after you late ecenings and throughout the night and Kety , Chiara and Diana the bar is open till midnight where Dominico wnd Michael will really look after you exquisitley. The Guinigi also has a Gym, 4* restaurant and extensive conference and event facilities. You will really enjoy the Guinigi it is the hest 4* Hotel by far, give it a try, you will return many more times it is so ., so good.

I would give this 4 star hotel a 1 star. We were unable to get a reservation in the restaurant for the 2 nights we were there since they also had a women's basketball team staying there. So what?? They could not even provide room service for us! This hotel is not located near any dining options so the fact that they could not even provide room service was ridiculous! I've never encountered that in my travels.

Price of suite not expensive compared to double room. But surprised that the living room had two single beds, no sofa or chairs. Good service. Good experience. Good parking space. Good service. Very satisfied with the hotel. Great view of the mountains.

The large comfortable room was equipped with a mini-bar, tv, air-co, coffee maker and a spacious bathroom. Yes, it had a very unremarkable style like every American Best Western, but after a week of quaint European hotels where the showers were so small you couldn't turn around in them, it was a nice change. It is located close enough to the walled city to walk or the bus passes every 15 minutes across the street. The breakfast buffet had everything we were looking for and the staff was on hand to make a cappuccino or espresso. Every staff member worked hard to ensure our stay was enjoyable. I'm so glad we stayed here!

A stunning hotel with spacious, well equiped rooms. There are coffee making facilities and a mini bar in the room. The food is good and the staff are friendly a huge wow! We enjoyed every minute of our stay.

Very big hotel ,used by coach tours and business people alike,Large rooms with air con that works,Wifi a little weak at times due to the volume of clients, Apple free parking, only 5 mins by car to the walled city which is ZTL,of course, Breakfast was good and plentiful,The only strange thing was Coffee and Tea facilities in most rooms but without any milk!!!!

I have been staying at this hotel for the past 25 years. Each and every time I come I choose the above hotel because the hotel staff is excellent, the restaurant inside the hotel is excellent as well as the breakfast. Although this hotel is outside the city wall, there is local bus transportation that takes you to the city. The bus is right nearby. If you choose to drive, the hotel has quite a large parking area as well.

The hotel is outside the memorable city of Lucca and is a typical BW, functional but soulless. They cater for large coach tours but do well to separate them from individual travellers. We didn't plan to eat in the restaurant but circumstances (bus strike, no taxis, long walk from the city) changed that. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of the dishes, and the friendly waiters. The rooms are large and comfortable, the wifi is just OK and the girls on reception are helpful. During the day the local buses are frequent and cheap (€1.20 a trip, tickets from the hotel) but they stop at 8pm. Taxis are in very limited supply so you may have to take a 30'+ walk back to the hotel.

Though it does not look like much from the outside, our family of 4 was very excited to see our room inside this hotel. After being in teeny, tiny hotel rooms during our trip, we were excited to have two separate rooms and a huge bathroom. Each room had its own TV, and the boys' room had a small table and refrigerator. I love my boys, but it was nice for my husband and me to have our own space for a night. The hotel has bikes to rent, but we took a cab into town and rented bikes from there. The price of the cab is worth it if it is a hot day. My husband needed emergency medical care while we were in town (he's fine now). Though I know a hospital visit is probably not part of most itineraries, know care is a block away should anyone need it. The service in the hotel was great- even in the restaurant. Though the breakfast was fantastic, dinner was not. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in the Grand Hotel Guinigi. I hope you do, too!

We stayed at the Best Western Grand Hotel Guigini as part of a package holiday with SAGA in order to visit the Puccini Festival The hotel was fine with a nice room and en-suite. It was very clean. the staff in Reception and the resteraunt were very pleasant and helpful. The only reason we have shown the hotel to be 4-star is that there is no outside space and no swimming pool. Otherwise we would recommend it.

This hotel met all our requirements...clean, quiet & comfortable. We stayed here two nights on a Globus Tour. The Buffet Breakfast was a bit basic - a toaster to make some toast would have been good. Only drawback was that it was not within walking distance of town so very much confined to our rooms. It was good that they had a gym and the wifi was easily accessible.

Lucca is a charming city inside the wall with little shops and restaurants and a sense of history. You'd never know it staying here. The location is outside the city, not near anything. The rooms had no dresser drawers, so live out of a suitcase. The front desk staff was rude and aloof. The shower in the room leaked water all over the bathroom floor. Breakfast was good, a buffet. Had trouble finding a waiter to eat lunch there one day, and no place to walk near the hotel to shop, eat or see the city. Can't recommend this place, you could do better.

We (2 Kids) had a great stay at the hotel. By mistake i over booked my stay at the hotel. Even though, i checked out early then my booking, the hotel manager approved of refunding us the overbooked days. Not many Hotels may do that ! Specially if you've already paid for it. If in Lucca, then definately this Hotel again !

Room was old and musty. My brother's room safe and phone didn't work so he walked down to get help. Front desk guy asked him back " anything else? room too small?" He wasn't joking. Rudeness seem to be this hotel's motto. The restaurant staff are ALL cold cocky rude and standoffish. The restaurant manager gave us an apologetic look but shrugged seeming to say he can't control his staff and can't help. Sad. We had an amazing time in Lucca and Cinque Terra but memories marred by this hotel.

Stayed for four nights for business in Lucca. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the town, which was a good walk in the evening. It was ideal as my meetings were not held in the centre of Lucca. The hotel is fairly good. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. I stayed in a room on the 4th floor. There is no issue with road noise though the main road can get pretty busy. Bathrooms are clean with showers. There is an on site fitness centre with basic kit in place. I had a meal in the restaurant on the first night as I was late booking in. The meal was ok nothing to shout about and the staff tended to hover around obviously waiting for you to finish so they could whip the plates away. The breakfast was buffet style and pretty good. The only issue is that the they were a bit tight with the coffee in the rooms with only a normal coffee sachet and a decaf sachet available - if that is the only issue then they aren't doing much wrong.

The hotel itself is ok. Breakfast is fine but in the basement with no windows. An average hotel experience with boring interior, but with large rooms. Location is almost 2 kms from the Lucca wall, hence a bit far to walk. Possible to rent bikes for 2 Eur per. Hr.

i have been here 6 July 2016 only for 1 night, the reception was very friendly, the room is nice and clean. Even the location is quite far from downtown, but its worth it to stay here. only 30 minutes to The Leaning Tower of Pisa

Stayed here with two kids. Had a big family room, 2 separate rooms with two separate sleeping units, brilliant! Really spacious and nice! No pool - gets a bit hot in July.. Wifi slow and not good, but free of charge. 2 km outside of Lucca town walls, best you have rental car. Busses stops at 8:30 pm. Not good sidewalks for a walk to town. Free parking for your car, thats a plus. Breakfast OK, a bit boring. Did not try hotel restaurant, the bar at hotel is really boring and was always empty.

The room was large, clean and the bed was massive, was an added bonus to have a bath too. The staff were nice and helpful and the drinks in the bar were very reasonable (€3 prosecco). Breakfast definitely worth the €3p.p. good selection but could do with a larger selection of juices. Location does let it down a bit, it's about a half hour walk from the town but you can rent bikes from the hotel which is really handy.

We had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. It is a Best Western and so the rooms were a good size as was the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. The room had a safe and Wi-Fi was available. The hotel is located near to the walled town of Lucca. We travelled with a group and one of our dinners was at the hotel. The meal and the service were very good. Good buffet breakfast, though it paid to get there early before other groups arrived.

I have been coming here for many years, the staff are outstanding, especialjy Domenico, Kety, Chiara, Michael, David, Lorenzo, Francesco, Valentiona. Right on the edge of town too. The rooms are Lariews too.

Just spent another 4 nights at this hotel & it is still our hotel of choice on any visit to Lucca. Fantastic bed & excellent air conditioning make it a really comfortable stay. It's slightly outside of the walled city but for anyone with a car it is really handy & without a car there is a bus stop directly outside the hotel - the hotel sells the bus tickets also. It is used for bus tours but can honestly say this never once affected our stay.

Although this hotel is not in town, the elegance and quality make it a good place to stay. Large rooms, excellent service, superb breakfast. Just outstanding. Love the view off the fields and mountains on the back side. Rate this a solid A.

This hotel was a very nice change from most Italian hotels. The rooms were american size large and they cooled down at night. The hotel staff was great except for one cranky man in the morning breakfast room. Hotel is outside the city wall so a little farther away from the city center for walking at night,

The location of this hotel is not good if you have not a car. The rooms are ok but without any decoration. In the bathroom standard amenities: soap, shower cap , foam for hair and body. Machine for coffee and tea making. Breakfast ok. But I was not satisfied with the choice of this hotel by my travel agency.

The hotel is a few miles to the south of the city but is easy to get to by bus (if you take a taxi they are very expensive) .We paid extra for an suite and had two large rooms plus a great bathroom. The hotel lounge is in the reception area but ok for a short sit down. The food was fair to good but not of top quality. .

Actually, no words to express. We liked all. The service, the room, it's view, the view from the room out! The tea tables out in the garden....It's good to go for ground floor rooms. We enjoyed. Recommend...

The hotel was clean and spacious, the staff were friendly and accommodating. Food was very nice and breakfast was surprising vast, plenty of fresh fruit available too. Rooms were of a good size for a one person one night stay. Wi-fi worked well throughout the hotel.

Lobby is grand and beautiful. The rooms are comfy but small. I got a room with a king bed with a view of the parking lot. The breakfast was very good. Lots of selection, pastries, cold meats, breads, fresh fruit, hot eggs, meats etc. The staff were mediocre. Lady at check-in did not speak much English but was friendly. The breakfast room staff were very friendly and catered to my needs when I asked for more of an item. The hotel is quite big and has free parking which is nice. We were visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa that day and the hotel is only about 30 minutes drive away which is not bad. Used 995 AirMiles which is a lot for the type of hotel. Value was okay. Overall, it is a nice hotel with a superb breakfast.

We booked a couple of rooms in this hotel after we got married in May. There is more of a conventional hotel feel to this property than any of the traditional hotel/ villas I have stayed at in the area. The rooms were spacious and clean and staff were very very helpful. We upgraded to a suite as we had 2 children with us and it was great value for money. The hotel had ample parking too.

I stay in 4* hotels every week all around Italy, especially Best Western as I have great confidence in their standards, when visiting a new Hotel the first thing that I check is the guest ratings on the many internet booking sites and this is what persuaded me to choose the Guinigi as it has almost full marks from thousands of reviews over many years from all of the major booking sites that I viewed. :-) The Guinigi is a major large 4* Hotel in every way, used by Major Business's from around the world and tour travel companies so there is always a variety of international people to chat with. I now stay at the Grand Hotel Guinigi many times each year on Business and on family Vacation visits as it is the most spacious Hotel in the area. This Hotel has a lot of multi lingual staff in reception, Kety,Chiara, Maia and more colleagues. Restaurant (open till 10pm and bar (open till midnight), All of the Guinigi staff are very helpful and friendly indeed so the service is fantastic and cleanliness of the rooms and main areas is exceptional too. There is a great modern Gym on the top floor that also has a sauna and an outside balcony with sun loungers for sun bathing. Wifi internet is all free and is good on all floors, the PC in reception area is free as well. There are a variety of rooms available, all very spacious, clean and modern, I quite like the environmentally friendly modern secure card entry in the rooms as it turns on all the electrics automatically and then off when you leave, very secure. I have stayed in family and executive suites here too as they are very favorably priced. Parking is very important in Lucca as it is very difficult at best but here at the Guinigi parking is FREE and is very plentiful, Most times I like to walk to the town in 10 minutes and call in at local bars and restaurants on the way, bicycle hire is only 2 euro per hour, a bus and taxi is available as well which I sometimes use on the return trip, The reception is open 24 hours and Stefano and Lorenzo will welcome you home at all hours of the early morning ;-). The restaurant offers a wide array of local cuisine, soups, pastas, meats and fish dishes and a great selection of wines. I eat out a lot every week and the prices are very favorable at the Guinigi Restaurant when compared to local restaurants in Lucca. In the morning the plentiful Breakfast is served in one of the downstairs Restaurants until 10.30am, again there are many very helpful staff to make sure you have everything you need, there is a wide variety on offer, the usual continental style cheeses, breads, croissants, Toast, fruits, cereals, yoghurts and cakes but they also have Eggs, boiled and scrambled, and bacon fruit juices teas and espresso coffees. I was impressed. At the Bar Dominico and his staff keep this area very well and service is swift, often there will be live sports on the TV, there are free bar snacks from late afternoon as well as hot sandwiches until midnight off the bar menu. The ice cold Draught (spina) Forst lager beer (birra) is very good. they also have bottled beers, a good wine list, cocktails selection and most major spirits. There is a great modern Gym on the top floor that also has a sauna and an outside balcony with sun loungers for sun bathing. Wifi internet is all free and the signal is good on all 5 floors. I have stayed in other Hotels in Lucca as well and I like those too but for me and my family the Guinigi just has extra reasons to be happy here, its why we keep coming back. Take that as a recommendation for you to be here too. :-) enjoy your stay.

I have stayed here several times this year for meetings. The quslity of the rooms an cleanliness is a bit higher than in other hotels I have tried here but it is just a good standard. the meeting rooms are below standard also concerning furbishing and technology. the food is ok considering it competes with very high quality food in the rest of lucca.

We had a car so this was a great location-easy and ample parking in front of the hotel. We walked to the walled town, about 2 km. The hotel was very comfortable- rooms were quite large, clean and modern. The breakfast was good with lots of choice. Staff were helpful and courteous.

Lucca is a great little town. I have been there twice. I prefer accommodations right in town. But on this occasion we were part of a Globus tour and needed a larger hotel. The hotel is no more than a 3 star. It is comfortable with free wifi, plain but nice decor. An old-style enclosed shower worked well. Beds were comfortable for Europe. Our wake-up call never came. (Fortunately, we had back-up). The breakfast was very nice but we had an early tour and had to rush through it. Cheese was good, nice crusty rolls and coffee on the table. I've stayed in better Best Westerns but this was okay. I expected a better hotel as part of the tour. Beware....bathroom floor is slippery.

Well located in Lucca, this hotel is perfect even for leisure than Business. Few minutes from the center of the city. Very comfortable rooms and always quiet. Staff are professional at all level. Restaurant by night is a very appreciated.Try it and you will return all the time.

The hotel is 2km from the town but there is an easy and regular bus. It was comfortable and nice. Glad I chose it! Breakfast was generous and varied with an excellent coffee. Appreciated the complimentary tea and coffee!

Great hotel, friendly professional staff. A little distance from the walls (15mins) but has the advantage of being restful retreat. It would be nice if there was a little outside space to sit, even though it was iAutumn. Clean and good breakfast available. Pleasant bar area and foyer to sit in in the evenings.

We'd a great stay in this hotel on the outskirts of Lucca. Our room seemed newly renovated in Italian style (matching wallpaper, curtains and carpet). We booked a suite which was great value and was huge. The bed was large and very comfy and the marble bathroom had double sinks and a jacuzzi-type bath. Gorgeous view of mountains from the balcony. Room service dinner was good standard - they even brought a table cloth! There's free parking and wifi. There is a shop and supermarket five minutes walk walk away, a nice take out pizza place and a lovely neighbourhood restaurant 10 mins walk. But not much in vicinity. We had a car but walked to and from Lucca from here and it was a pleasant 30 min stroll. The main reason I'm not giving this full marks is location (but I'd definitely stay here again coming back to Lucca) .

The location is actually quite good, especially if you enjoy a 20 minute walk to a city gate. I found it enjoyable but there is also a bus that stops across the street. Actually they rent bikes at a cheaper rate than in town so that could have been another option. The hotel tries to be modern and succeeds in most areas, the rooms are fairly large and uncluttered and the bathroom was better than the vast majority of Italian hotels. The front desk was very helpful and congenial. The included breakfast was the least appealing of any Italian hotel I have ever used. The breakfast room staff always seemed annoyed as if they couldn't wait for breakfast to be over. As a result, I had no interest in eating in the restaurant. The bar is small but nice and that staff was pleasant. They put out far less nibbles than other Italian bars. The WiFi worked great. Would I go back. I think I might search for another but would return if I couldn't find another simarly priced hotel.

After having visited other hotels,this was the best so far,ooooh the shower is soo heavenly especially after a long day out touring. We stayed here for one night and really enjoyed,after checking in we hired the bikes for Euro 2 per hour and went out strolling in the old city's wall ,i wouldn't say it was safe for me to ride around as i had not biked in almost 15 years but i really enjoyed. After checking out i forgot my belongings at the lounge and the hotel was so helpful and they sent me my stuff the next day via courier. Thank Alot Best Western,i will be coming back if i ever visit Lucca again.

The Grand Hotel Guingi is located on the outskirts of Lucca and is about a 15 minute walk from Porta Eliza or 5 minutes on bus 6. Piazza Verdi on the other side of the city is 15 minutes by bus and the train station 10 minutes away. Bus 6 heads towards Verdi from the Hotel and Capronni to the Hotel.The bus runs every 30 minutes and the last bus is at 20.00 which perhaps is a little early. From the hotel the service operates at xx.05 and xx.35 into Lucca city centre.Tickets are available from the reception for €1.20 or on the bus for €2.00 and the stops is directly outside the hotel. The triple room can only seemingly be booked on the hotel's own website rather than the Best Western website. The room was spacious, attractively furnished and had three proper full size beds. The room had a good standard of cleanliness and the air -conditioning worked well. The wifi worked well in the room but was tricky to initially connect. The light seemed to take a few minutes to warm up meaning the room was a bit dark initially. The bed was on the hard side and did not seem to have pocket springs. No hospitality tray was provided which is a bit of a shame. The bathroom was modern with a low floor shower and the towels had a good fluffiness. The hotel was popular with tour groups such as Saga and Globus but they were accommodated separately at mealtimes. Breakfast and dinner were served in separate rooms. Breakfast is is included in the room price and comprises of boiled egg, scrambled egg, streaky bacon, fresh fruit, orange squash, cakes, mixed pastries, tinned fruit, yogurt, toast with fresh bread and hot drinks. I thought the breakfast was good but felt that the fresh orange juice which is €4 extra should really be included. It was nice that the coffee could be ordered from the bar and freshly made at no extra cost. The restaurant was very good for a Hotel. Prices range from €9 for pasta, €12 for meat €5 for desserts, €3 for 1l of water and €12 for a 75cl bottle of wine. Also a vegetable and salad buffet for €5. I thought the prices were fair. The quality of the food was good. The lamb chops were tender and the meat ravioli was tasty. The cheesecake and the sorbets are good. No 'coperto' make a nice change and the waiters are in bow ties for a traditional atmosphere. The cutlery had a good weight. One criticism is that the reception staff were not willing to book a restaurant for my next location meaning a tricky telephone call in a language I do not speak. It was good however that luggage storage facilities are available. The hotel did not respond to my email enquiry prior to staying. Do beware that a city tax is payable at €2.50 per person per day which is not included in the price. I know this is a local requirement but it can be forgotten about. If I was in Lucca again I think the Grand Hotel Guingi would be a first choice.

The hotel exceeded our expectations. The room was large and very comfortable with a huge bed and bathroom. Reception staff were exceptional, especially Matteo, and helped us with advice on getting to Lucca old town on the bus, recommending a very good restaurant nearby and even booking a hairdresser appointment at a salon just down the road. The breakfasts were superb with plenty of choice and the meals in the restaurant were really good and good value. A four star hotel bordering on five stars.

Stayed in this Best Western hotel for 4 nights. It's true what most reviews stay: the hotel is not in the city centre of Lucca. However, if you have a car at your disposal, it situated near the motorway (10-15 minute drive) and therefor a good location to visit other towns in Tuscany. The hotel itself is quiet nice. The rooms are spacious and the beds are huge. Nothing to say about the bathroom either. Make sure you can have a room at the backside of the hotel. You have some nice views over the mountains and avoid the noise of the busy street. The breakfast is good. You have a lot of choice (fruit, warm & cold drinks, all types of bread & pastries …). We dined at the restaurant once. The food was just ok (meat was a bit overcooked) and also a bit expensive (compared to other places in Tuscany)…

My first problem with this hotel is that is not in Lucca. It's true. On the way to this hotel you pass a sign that says you have left Lucca. My next problem is that the staff make no effort to inform you of anything. No tourist map. No recommendations. Nothing. We discovered a heap of places in the walled city that would have been much better. On the plus side. The restaurant food was quite good as was the breakfast.

The hotel is a really good place to stay in Lucca if you have a car as it has a large fairly secure car park. I was able to park next to reception so they could keep n eye on the car. The advantage of arriving in a Ferrari in Italy. The hotel is right on the outskirts of Lucca so is a good 20 minute walk into the old town. However there is a regular bus service from outside the hotel opposite. Reception will sell you tickets for the bus but not ll of the people on reception seem to be aware of the bus or the tickets. So ask someone else if the first answer is negative. The last bus is leaves the hospital at 20:45. The walk is not unpleasant just a bit hot (it was 39 C when we stayed) so walking back after a meal in the old town when it is cooler is not a problem. We did the return walk twice in a day before we found out about the bus.

In general all the net of Best Western. Big size room. Good quality in all corners. Well trained staff. Free WiFi. breakfast quite OK. Just I'd advise to avoid rooms on street side - quite noisy. Good hotel for short stay. The hotel is quite remote from Lucca, abt. 10 min driving to the Old City.
