« Best Western Golden Sails hotel, Long Beach, Ca »

We have stayed at the Golden Sails for 5 yrs. every June. We like the location close to LB University for Special Olympics Summer Games. The price is inexpensive. After all day in the sun the large pool is a welcome relief. The spa is large and well heated. The room is basic and clean. Rooms have been renovated with a Fridge, coffee maker. Beds were not the best. Could use new soft top covers over the mattress. Staff at front counter were always nice and helpful. Access to computer and nice fitness room. Past years we've been impressed with an amazing full complementary breakfast with hot scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage etc... well apparently ?new management ? decided to, trim the fat. A weak continental breakfast is now served. Typical fare with toast, some fruit, oatmeal, and waffle maker. For us major deal breaker! I overheard other guests complaining as well. Another cost saving effort by new management is no cable tv. At least no Disney Channel which my special needs athlete likes. All in all the Golden Sails is still a good deal in the Long Beach area. Just wish they could find another place to cut expenses and bring back the great breakfast. But then again Denny's is just down the street.

    « Disappointing »

I stayed here a couple of years ago and I had a really good experience. But things have changed here and they went in the wrong direction. My room was on the large side and the housekeeping was very good. But I didn't have a desk. Just a large dining room type of table with a couple of chairs. So you could use it for your desk but since it was in the middle of the room there was no electrical outlet near by. But the most disappointing thing was the breakfast. The ONLY hot food was a pot of oatmeal, or you could make a waffle. NO eggs or meat. This was more like a "continental" breakfast. Very disappointing and I will think twice before I return here.

« The suite is great »

Definitely recommend the suite, excellent view and room size. The breakfast buffet gets a little thin if you wait until close to 930. The fitness room is unfortunately almost unuseable. Hope they upgrade it soon. Overall I love staying here when I'm in Long Beach.

    « Graduation Visit »

Pillows are terrible, breakfast is limited in hours and options, sinks didn't drain, tv channels were awful. Fox News not shown, but all the others were. This seems deliberate. The service was very good though, very nice employees.

    4
« More Motel Than Hotel »

The staff was very friendly. The rooms were older models and the AC unit cannot be turned completely off. So you will be either hot or cold your entire stay. There's a pool and jacuzzi on site. The PCH club is also on site. If you'd like a newer and safer room, request to be placed in the main building. Otherwise, they may put you in the older Bates motel-ish part of the property.

    2
« Basic and then less »

There's basic and then there's the Best western Golden sails. Sliding glass door to balcony can't be secured with a pin or a bar. You can see light all around the door to the room when it's shut. Same trash has been on the stairwell for three days. The AC unit from 1970 works ok. The 27? (32?) is fuzzy and since the bed is 20' away, unwatchable. One chair in the room. No overhead light, thank goodness for the 5 lamps. Weak water pressure. Staff is congenial but couldn't address any of my concerns with security. I won't be back.

    3
    « Priced Right »

The Golden Sails is rather an inexpensive hotel in expensive Long Beach. It features all the amenities as other more expensive venues offer at a much lower price and features an outstanding staff that always make sure the guests are fully satisfied. Breakfast is rather so-so and has the same items daily. A big plus is at breakfast they offer real plates, real cups and real silverware. The on sight lounge is clean, friendly and well stocked. Lounge is pricey but cocktails and no driving is worth the extra prices. Food in lounge is limited. My stay was enjoyable throughout. Parking great and well lighted. T.V. flat screen but limited channels. I do recommend this venue for all the right things.

    « Worst Breakfast ever »

I'm a Diamond member of Best Western and have never had a worst breakfast world wide for Best Western in my life. The hotel and staff great, but they say breakfast. If you want to stay at a hotel here in Long Beach area with a breakfast, do not stay here. I was here 3 nights. Nothing hot, no eggs, no bacon, no sausage, no peanut butter, no potatoes. Show up they run out of danishes, and have no spread for toast. Absolutely pathetic or extremely cheap. You advertise breakfast and can make toast but nothing to put on it, or no basic danishes. I was told, sorry we ran out. For this reason I will advise all who think about wanting a place for a breakfast not to come here and Best Western should have them remove their name or don't advertise breakfast included. « 2 star, not 3 star »

Not a 3 star hotel. I'll give it 2 stars. Heater did not work, toilet kept running, carpet just looked nasty, ?fitness center? a joke. Look for an actual 3 star for the same price. Good thing: The front desk staff were wonderful.

    5
    « Great Location »

Excellent location on PCH close to freeway, shopping, dining. Beautiful hotel. Nicely equipped fitness room with elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, and weights. In room microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. Free breakfast. Quiet.

« Golden Sales Hotel by Best Western »

This was a close to home adventure for us. We know all the best eat places around the area. The location is great. I would stay again. I love being by the water and the marina. We had a king room on the 2nd floor with a balcony on two sides of the room.

    « ACTUALLY A VERY NICE HOTEL »

3 storage hotel surrounded by green garden and a swimmingpool and right next to the Pacific Coast Hwy. yet withing walking distance to a small shopping mall and 2nd street Long Beach. Large and spacious rooms, comfortable beds, safe, fridge, coffee maschine and microwave and very clean. Functional bathroom, thick towels and a balcony to most of the rooms. Breakfast is very nice and incl. waffles, yoghurt, cereals, boiled eggs, juices, different types of bread and pastry. The view is fantastic from the restaurant overlooking the harbour. The staff are very serviceminded and accomodating. Plenty of parking

    4
« Good accommodation in Long Beach »

While an older hotel, the Golden Sails provides is guests with large rooms at a affordable price. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. The breakfast provide next door was tasty and plentiful. Our room overlooked the pool and quaint courtyard which was being prepared for a wedding. Parking was a bit tight in the evenings but overall recommended.

« Older Hotel but clean and great Breakfast »

Great front desk personnel. Hotel is dated but clean and reasonably priced. The area is close to restaurants etc. But isr quiet and adjacent to boat harbor. Long beach harbor very close. A good location for business in the industrial area. Matson, etc.

    « Hotel is horrible »

My husband and I have stayed there many times in the past years. Recently it has undergone change of management. The new ownership is horrible... Take my word for it, stay somewhere else. The toilet overflowed the first morning and we had 2 inches of water in the bathroom. We reported it and they changed our rooms after we INSISTED. The breakfast was disgusting, the bacon tasted rancid and the choices were COLD. We actually left our plates full of food on our table and went elsewhere. We will NOT stay there again And we smelt cigerette and marajuana smoke throughout the night.

« Clean and comfortable rooms. »

I enjoy staying at this property even though there are locations closer to where I am working. The staff is always friendly, helpful and professional. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Free internet and breakfast (sign up for there program) make this an A_plus place to stay.

    2
    « Noisy Hotel »

The hotel is old and noisy. The front desk staff are nice but the facility is old. I didn't experience what I see in the pictures listed in its web site. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that the location is convenient for students/parents to visit CSULB.

    2
    « Hotel stay »

The hotel is in need of updating dingy hotel unfortunately I can not recommend this hotel. Staff very friendly and breakfast buffet very good but thats it. The staff actually set me up with a free breakfast buffet which was very good. No complaints about staff. Room was right on main road so you heard traffic all night. Not a good experience.

    « Winter Weekend Trip »

We stayed at the Best Western Golden Sails about 2 weeks ago over a long weekend. The location was nice with lots of shops and restaurants close by -We recommend going to The Local Spot for breakfast! The marina that this hotel is next to is a bit dirty (lots of debris floating in the water next to the big boats). The hotel on the outside looks a bit scary and run down, but once you get in the lobby, that area is very nice. Our customer service at the front desk was above average compared to other hotels in this price range. Our room was in the back of the building in a standard room. You can definitely tell it's an old hotel (especially the bathroom) but the room was actually pretty nice considering the look of the exterior. The bed was OK, nothing special but I didn't love it. The one thing I didn't care for overall was the fact you need a "voucher" to get a free breakfast. We were told we could get 1 free, then we had to sign up for the Best Western Rewards to get more, which we would have done if we liked the breakfast. We expected the breakfast to be really good, but once we walked over to it, it was nothing different than any other complimentary hotel breakfast that had hot and cold options. We only ate here the first morning, but decided to go elsewhere the next two mornings. Would I stay here again? Only if we were looking for another inexpensive short trip. I don't know if I would stay here a week, but the price is right.

« Stayed overnight to take a cruise out of Long Beach »

It's an old Hotel, and does need some updating. It was comfortable and clean. I think the staff were great. To me it was in rather a rundown area of LA and I personally would not be going out on the streets after dark. However it is a convenient spot especially if you were going on a cruise, not too far from the airport and view of the Marina. The complimentary breakfast was very good as it usually is with Best Western. The lobby was cold and certainly needs some attention and not very inviting although staff was very friendly

« Good place to stay if you are taking a cruise out of Long Beach »

This place is surprisingly good. The front desk people are very helpful, I rented 3 rooms one for us and 2 for our friends going on the cruise. We got there first and got a nice first floor room overlooking the pool and a small gazebo. When our friends came they were put in the back of the hotel, we asked the front desk if we could be moved to the back to be close by. The front desk said no problem and shifted our room. The room was nice and clean, had a small veranda over looking the hot tub. The room was clean 2queen beds, bathroom was clean and had a walk in shower. The best were comfortable. Reported to the front desk on our way out that the sliding door to the veranda did not lock. Breakfast was your typical BW breakfast but now besides plain scrambled eggs they also have scrambled eggs with red, green and yellow peppers.I like my bacon a little crisp the bacon was not but the sausages were good. What is nice about the dining room was that it was a dining room, white table cloths with a glass top, most other BW's the breakfast room is a meeting room with a few tables, here floor to ceiling windows looking out on a small yacht harbor. Another nice touch I wish other BW's should copy, with your waffles you have warm maple syrup or (looks like they had a package of frozen strawberries) that they warmed up to go on top. My granddaughter a picky eater tried the waffles both ways and said they were great. If I take a cruise out of long beach again I will definitely stay here.

    « Clean, friendly & attentive staff »

Stayed at hotel 2 wks. Room is dated but CLEAN. They need to renovate, but ultimately it is clean. I do not generally stay places with outside corridor, rather prefer the safety of an internal hallway and door entry - but my room faced an internal courtyard which as pretty and quiet and I did feel safe. As a member, I was provided complimentary breakfast at "the sails" restaurant which is part of the hotel itself. Self-serve breakfast buffet is 3 hrs, plenty of comfortable seating, very pretty view of marina, clean, relaxing and very good wait staff. Food is fine, hot bacon, sausage and eggs, hot potatoes or hash browns, hot oatmeal, make-your-own waffles, dry cereal, yogurt, toast, juice, coffee, tea, pastries... and variety of fruit. It's clean! I'll admit, ...if I had to pay regular rate, I would not frequent this restaurant....because $10-$15 bucks per person should be greater value and a bit fancier for buffet options as well as decor then what this establishment offers, still, I DO recommend this place for folks visiting from out of town and unfamiliar with local area and maybe uncomfortable exploring. The staff is really great at both the hotel & the restaurant/bar.

    « Eh »

This place had an easy check in but the rooms are older and outdated. I wasn't there long so I didn't have to deal with staff much although front desk was nice. I checked the beds as usual to make sure there were no bed bugs and they were fine but the rooms are set up weird and we couldn't shut the bathroom door.

    « Couple of nights!! »

Had a couple of nights here, we visited here about 10 years ago and found location pretty good for our needs. So cane back. Agree with some comments a little tired looking but staff, cleanliness, comfortable bed with nice linen and good towels makes up for no frills!! Lots of restaurants - cinema - stores opposite but busy road to cross so go to lights and u turn!!! Enjoyed.

    « Best Tuesday ever! »

Staying at the Best Western Golden Sails Hotel was one of my best nights at a Best Western ever! I go out to Long Beach mostly for leisure but for work as well from time to time. It's nice to know i have a go to whenever im in the area from now on. Thank you to the entire staff from check in to food service.

    « Great experience. »

It's pretty close to LA, but in a much better city, on the water, and near a few malls. We liked the service, and the room, with 2 queen beds, and a crib when requested. The room had a balcony too. Breakfast buffet was really nice as well. The only minus is carpet - would be nice if they upgraded to laminate. Also, an ancient phone did not dial out. The pool looked inviting, and there was plenty of free parking. Would stay there again.

    « Gone Down Hill »

Highlights the Bed was comfortable and had a decent TV. The Room seemed to be clean. Dont ever acccept Room #274. Even though there are 2 balconies, you are staring at fence walls! My wife & I have been staying here for close to 7 years as we come down from Ventura County to see Cubensis and it has been out go to on NYE. Since the ownership change, the staff is less then friendly/ helpful. The food used to be awesome and really reasonably priced in their restaurant. NOT ANYMORE! The Service has gone out the window as well. Additionally, Breakfast hours are until 10:00 am... couldnt they bend the rules a little bit on New Years Day especially since they hosted the biggest part of the year that didnt even finish until 1:30 and people were moseying out close to 2:00 am.. Dont put food away at 10:00 am sharp...

    « Great »

We stay here every time were visiting/business. Staff is always friendly. Breakfast is hot and yummy. No only complaint was we had to get a smoking room since all the others were taken. Everything else was great.

    5
    « awesome »

serviceable staff the clerk and the kitchen breakfast staff. The staff went out there way to accomplish there goal to satisfied the customer. The staff who where bilingual where on the ball whenever asked from Breakfast to an extra items.

    « "Needs a major renovation" »

Friendly staff and nice lobby, but rooms are in need of a major renovation. Two of my pillow cases had stains on them, the shower curtain had mold and the heating/air unit is outdated. Lots of touch up paint in the room, an extension cord leading to the air conditioning/heater box, ugly carpet and just plain outdated and old. One thing that really turned me off is a homeless person walked into the small workout room located just off the lobby area and came out about 5 minutes later, not sure what he did in there as it was dark and he didn't turn on the lights. On the plus side, the maids came early to make up the room everyday. I didn't have a chance to experience the free buffet breakfast, but I walked down to look at it and it actually looked pretty decent! I think for the price this place is might suffice if your looking for a place to rest your head, but I will stay someplace different next time.

    4
« Very good lodging on Pacific Coast Highway »

I really enjoyed my recent two-night stay at the B/W Golden Sails Hotel. Stayed there because it was in close proximity to a customer site (I was traveling due to business). Although I question whether this is the best hotel for business travel, I found NOTHING wrong with it whatsoever. Hotel staff was very nice and efficient. Buffet breakfast a pricey at $12.50, but as the hotel clerk gave us vouchers for breakfast for signing up for some promotional program my colleague and I couldn't complain. Would definitely stay there again.

    2
« Best Western Golden Sails Hotel »

Poor Room Service. Smelly Location (Oil Fields). Busy Highway Location. On-site restaurant/bar leaves much to be desired. Not within walking distance to very many nice places for dinner. Dangerous to cross street.

    4
« Good hotel and value for Long Beach »

Nice hotel and decent value for the Long Beach area, right off PCH. Great breakfast (real scrambled eggs, not the powdered stuff) and older, but nice and comfortable room. Stayed 3 nights. Would stay again.

    5
« Nice place off the main strip »

The room was a simple room but pretty nice. There was a updated flat screen tv and the bed was comfortable. Because I was a Best Western Rewards member, I received a coupon for free breakfast every morning. The hotel was close to restaurants and shopping mall. Overall, I will return the Golden Sails during my next visit to Long Beach!

    5
    « Would stay again! »

Our stay was just for one night and received great service. We would stay again. The only problem we encountered was in the PC club bar. They were going to have a party there at 8pm and at 6pm they decided to try out their audio equipment. It was so very loud in there that we had to leave.

    5
    « Hidden Gem »

Great service. The balconies are unbelievable and the pool is beautiful. Awesome staff. Everyone there is real helpful. They have a Great lounge and salsa night on thursday. The internet cut in and out occasionally but eventually ran strong. I Will definitely return.

    « November 28, 2017 »

Nice location, clean and wonderful staff and employees. Well maintained room. Breakfast buffet was great. Ample parking. I forgot my computer charger and the housekeeping made an effort to go back and check on it. We were able to go back and pick it up.

« This is a great hotel for mid-mod fans »

All rooms have a balcony/patio. The garden area rooms are nice. The jacuzzi tub rooms are first floor and the tubs are massive. Great location. Mid century modern accents. Bring a mattress topper and pillows and you will have a great stay!

    « Older But Great. »

The hotel is older but clean. Great location, amazing shower, fluffy towels. Excellent customer service. Breakfast was good even with dietary restrictions. Great value. We will be staying here again next time we come to Southern California.

    5
    « Worth the stay »

Don't skip this location, ease of access to everything either walking, biking or driving. Close to beaches. This hotel has been around for many years - and may not be on hotel row - but worth the stay.

    4
    « Long Beach Hotel »

Be sure to get a room away from highway and tower rooms very nice. Breakfast not normal at hotel but requires a coupon for restaurant next door. Ok buffet breakfast, but other restaurants close by and shopping.

« Long Beach OSHA Training Class »

Great Best Western to book your stay at. Friendly service, great breakfast! Quiet floor - book your stay in the 4 story part of the hotel. Breakfast restaurant overlooks the local marina. Plenty of great local restaurants to enjoy your evening dinner. Plenty of local golf courses to choose from. Will return with my wife for a vacation in the future.

    3
    « Ok Hotel »

The hotel was not too busy, but it looks like it has been there for a while. The bed was comfortable, but a noticeable electric motor noise from an adjoining room did not help. The breakfast was average for Best Western hotels.

    4
« Nice stay in Long Beach »

This property is centerally located if you're visiting Southern California. The breakfast was great and the view of the marina from the dining area was great. My room was very quiet and very large. Could have put two king beds in the room.

    4
« Close to cruise terminal »

We stayed here before our Carnival cruise. It was very clean and offered free hot breakfast. The food was ok, Nothing great. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was walking distance to restaurants And the grocery store. I would stay here again.

  • 4
« Great breakfast with harbor view. »

We've stayed here many times. Be sure to be a member of the BW rewards program. Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard and pool. Otherwise you may be overlooking a parking lot or Pacific Coast Highway. The staff are wonderful. The breakfast is not your typical served at most "breakfast included" hotels. The setting is beautiful and the selections are top notch.

    4
« Consistently Pleasant and Comfortable »

We always stay at this hotel when visiting Long Beach. It is perfectly located, with congenial helpful staff and spotlessly clean comfortable rooms. At a "moderate" price, it is a deal especially with the complete breakfast at $13.00. If you are looking for the most modern hotel, this is not. But it does have a frig, coffee maker, and microwave in the room. The grounds are lovely. The singular complaint, albeit small, is that the coffee at breakfast is mediocre at best.

    4
    « very nice »

I was please with my overall stay no complaints. Bed was comfortable and room was very clean. I stayed only one night for a event at the bar on grounds. Very nice staff was great and good food. I was also given drink tickets from the hotel staff. I sure did use them. I will stay here again for sure.

    4
« Good Value for Business Stay »

Although an older property it us well kept and clean. Convenient location to restaurants and shopping centers. Overall a good place to stay for a business trip. Would have liked the breakfast to open earlier.

    5
« Great stay at Best Western Golden Sails Hotel! »

The staff here are the best! I scored a lovely room with a great view . Breakfast included was great in the PCH room, and a nice way to complete my visit. Even though this is an older hotel, they really know how to make your visit enjoyable. Location is in a busy area, but very convenient to water activities and seaside restaurants.

    5
« Best Western Golden Sails on PCH »

The employees were exceptional and the room was very clean and well insulated from the sounds of traffic on PCH. The price was good for the area, which is close to Long Beach and Huntington Beach. The breakfast was terrific.

    5
    « Excellent Value »

Some have described this hotel as "tired" or "outdated." Its style does reflect its age, but it is clean, spacious and most importantly, it was an excellent value. I'd say it has character. Several of the staff asked me if I needed anything and described some of the hotel's features-service that I haven't seen at other hotels. The Golden Sails features a pool, spa, restaurant, bar and also had large and spacious grounds. It wasn't crowded and was fairly quiet. My room was spacious--twice the size of most with sliding glass door opening to the grounds. There's a mall within walking distance with shops, a grocery store and restaurants. Given its size and features, other hotels in the area charge another $50-$75/night, making this hotel an excellent value. I would recommend it to anyone staying in the Long Beach/Seal Beach/Huntington Beach area.

    1
« Awful stinky room in a Motel »

Misrepresented a 2 star motel for a 3 star hotel. Room stunk due to humidity from not running AC, Noisy old AC like a 70's car, Crooked TV hang, old bath, on a 2 story motel. Will not go back !!! For that quality you can check in Motel 6 or something also for half the price.

    5
    « Long Beach/Los Angeles mini-vacation. »

Short vacation to visit attractions and tours in Los Angeles. Arrived 1130pm. Check-in smooth. Room clean and well appointed. Fridge, microwave and coffee maker (with coffee supplies). From the parking lot the hotel does look a bit tired (as other reviewers have noted) however, we were on the ground floor which provided easy access to the beautifully kept garden area. Pool and hot tub were clean. Lower rooms have patio with chairs or you can use the table/chairs at the pool. Hotel will match Hotels.com quoted price. Amenities are close with Ralph's grocery and everything store open from 5am-1am daily.

    2
    « Tired and Sad »

We had an event on the property so we had almost no choice but to stay here. The best word to describe this place is TIRED. This hotel seems like an old abandoned roadside motel. They keep it very clean but the rooms and just the building in general are just old and in desperate need of a face lift.I would like to say that if BWGS are charging prices like what they charge, make your hotel look like the money you charge. For us, we will pay more at a different option before we host another event here. ( the sales team and event planners are as bad as the rooms in this place)

  • 4
« Stay and sail package »

Friendly staff, great breakfast, nice rooms. This was the last year they are offering the stay and sail package for cruisers it was our fourth year there. Package was discontinued so we have to find different hotel in Long Beach.

    « Getting Better »

I have stayed at Golden Sails for several years and I can happily say the current management has the place on an improving cycle. The only negative over past stays was Breakfast not starting at 6:00 AM. For the working stiff the early grub helped. The safety aspect has improved as well. Good Job.

    « Great Salsa club »

If you are around on Thursday evening and enjoy latin music, don?t miss the PCH Club. Great people and atmosphere. They have Salsa classes too. Only 5 dollars entry ticket and fair drink prices. Be back again!

« central long beach, close to shopping »

The staff is very friendly and gave us a nice full breakfast. It is a convenient drive to lots of shopping areas and restaurants and marinas. The rooms look renovated and bedding nice but it is getting run down fast. One sink was backing up, an area of the bath floor was collasping and bathroom door notched to allow clearance for the toilet seat. I'm sure these issues will be addressed. Patrons seemed to have a nice time in their large swimming pool. For its price we would stay again.

« Nice place with nice staff »

I have stayed here a few times. There is nothing fancy, BUT the quality of the stay is top notch. The rooms are spacious and clean, the breakfast is great, the location is wonderful, and the staff is incredible. Highly recommend!

    « Decent Accomodations »

Stayed at this hotel for a conference. No bathtub, The TV did not work, it made a buzzing sound. After it was fixed, it could not be turned up sufficiently to hear it. The accommodations were middle of the road. I enjoyed the breakfast and the dining area was nice. The bed was hard and the air conditioner blows directly onto the bed.

« Big rooms but a bit tired »

This is a great place to stay if you want to crash after partying at the Gaslamp which is next door. The bed was comfortable. Decor is a bit worn (torn drapes, lamp shade falling apart). However, it was clean.

« Great Get Away Spot »

Clean, comfy, walking distance to food and nightlife! Great hot breakfast with lots of food varieties. Dancing events in the hotel on the weekends. Salsa classes. Great Pool and Jacuzzi! Staff is excellent.

« Air Conditioner did not work. »

We stayed 1 night at this hotel. The wall air conditioner did not work. The acknowledged that it did not and compensated us. I felt like house keeping would have known about it and should have sent a work order in. Nevertheless, the staff was very accommodating and pleasant to work through this problem. Thanks. No breakfast is provided.

« Relaxing With Spacious Grounds »

Great PCH location within walking distance to fantastic restaurants (Enriques Mexican Restaurant, The Local Spot, and Starbucks). Pool with lounge chairs and tables, gardens, and free parking back up to Marina with paved walking trails. Loved the 80's vibe.

« Good Value and Decent Place To Stay »

I always stay here when I come to Long Beach. The rooms are quiet, and decent sized. They have always been clean. While this is an older facility, it provides a decent place to stay. The free breakfast has always been outstanding in the food provided, and the environment to eat in. For a room, and REAL food (not a continental breakfast--which I hate) you get good value from your money. If you need to stock up your mini-fridge, Raley's is right down the street, with Best Buy and Nordstrom's Rack. There is a nice Mexican restaurant right next to the Rack. The hotel is about 11-15 min. from the Long Beach airport. The staff are all very top notch, friendly, and willing to help with any need that you may have.

    5
    « Comfort and courtesy »

From the moment we entered the hotel we were treated extremely well! We were upgraded as soon as I joined the Best Western loyalty program. Our room was quiet and very comfortable. There was a nice little balcony overlooking a beautiful pool and gazebo. The bed was very comfortable. The refrigerator was nice and cold. I liked that there were 2 sinks and areas to get dressed. That made it so nice in the morning. The breakfast room overlooks a small marina and makes for a pleasant breakfast environment. I received great value for my money. I will stay there again.

    « Bringear plugs & coffee pot »

Would be hard pressed to bring back my business here, the complex is really lacking if using room 221 as the comparison for the motel, stairs closest to 221 are beyond difficult and dangerous for customer use, had to use a personal hot spot for all computer activities, room noise is an issue, almost seemed like the door was open with the sounds of vehicles passing by, this establishment is in desperate need of a complete make over, room was clean, bed, was decent housekeeping done well, restaurant (PCH Club) no comment, but In n Out would be a better choice, fitness center could use some help, like a receipt upon checkout, etc.

« Don't worry, you'll get used to the smell... »

Musty rooms, doors that don't fit, dated decor... Don't be fooled by the pictures of the newly decorated rooms overlooking the harbour - "they cost more" we were told, with the kind of attitude that we probably wouldn't want to pay more. We were housed in the older block on the noisy main road, despite asking for a high floor and being quite willing to pay! We were in the US for our honeymoon, had enjoyed luxury in San Francisco and Las Vegas, and booked this Best Western on the strength of the pictures and the fact rooms had been refurbed. Clearly they all haven't. Very disappointed, the worst accommodation we had in our entire 2 weeks in the country.

    4
« Great Stay will be back soon! »

This was my second time staying at the Golden Sails Best Western. The only thing I was disappointed about was that I learned their was a change or owner in June who made changes in the breakfast buffet access. The breakfast buffet was one of the highlights of my first stay back in April. Now the buffet is a separate charge of 12.99. Aside from this I was pleased with my stay. The staff is so kind and helpful willing to go out of their way

« Excellet Bang for your Buck! »

This hotel is awesome! The grounds are beautiful. They have a beautiful pool and a cute restaurant that overlooks the water. The hotel is close to many activities including kayaking around Naples Island. There are many restaurants and shopping right across the street. The rooms are nothing fancy but have everything you need and are very clean and the beds are super comfy. I definitely plan on staying here again!!

« Really affordable hotel near major shops in Long Beach! »

The most affordable hotel for a three day vacation stay in Long beach. Close to the airport, shops, freeways and major highways. The hotel is a bit old and dated but clean enough and has the necessities that I need. It also has a refrigerator, microwave, iron and good size bathrooms. We ordered room service for dinner and it was good and moderately priced. The breakfast has quite a selection for a buffet service. Great views too!

i was looking forward to having complimentary breakfast like I always do. I was told under new management will no long offer complimentary breakfast and will charge $15.00 a person. The breakfast was the same food and with nothing new. For that price i rather go out.

    « Dated »

This hotel has great staff, but facility is very dated. In desperate need of an update/remodel. Room chairs are uncomfortable, worn out carpet, very cramped bathroom, had no hot water at 5:30am, only tepid at 5:30pm.

    4
« Clean Hotel Great staff »

The hotel was clean and staff very good. Good location to Long beach Harbor and or beaches. The hotel is a older hotel but rooms well maintained. Close to shopping and eating spots.Excellent breakfast free for Best A estern elite or gold members. Snd exttemely reasonable price

    3
    « Change in Policy »

We used to like this hotel because it used to include the hot breakfast with the room, like other Best Westerns do. This location changed its policy recently to not include the hot breakfast. Everything else about the hotel is perfectly fine, but we will not stay here again because of the breakfast policy change.

    3
« Good Location. Horrible Breakfast. »

This hotel is sort of one those hit or miss type of accommodations. The staff wasn't friendly, at first, but became very helpful, later. The breakfast just wasn't good. It was the poor quality that turned a basic hotel breakfast sour. The bacon was of the cheapest quality. The bananas were green and frozen. The cereal choices of Kix and Honey Nut Cheerios wasn't appealing.

    5
    « Great value »

The rooms were large and very clean. There is a very nice garden area with a sizeable pool. The hotel is well situated for visiting the long beach area and is a short drive from seal beach which is definitely worth a day on. The staff there could not have been more helpful.

    4
« Good location and a nice hotel »

The hotel had a beautiful patio. We sat outside with drinks and visited with friends. The rooms were nice size and the beds were very comfortable. The best part was they were close to the port and we were going on a cruise the next day. I just wish they had a shuttle to the cruise ship.

    5
    « Very nice »

I was here for a reunion. It was better than I expected. The room was nice and good size. The balcony looked out to the gazebo and pool and that was a very nice surprise. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend.

    « Very impressed »

I chose this hotel as our last accommodation before departing from LAX after 25 days travelling across California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah. For the price I wasn't expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised and we really enjoyed our stay. True to say it exceeded all my expectations. We had a 2-Queen room to sleep 2 adults and 2 children. We found it very clean and spacious. It was great having a second sink outside the main bathroom; ideal for families trying to get ready at the same time. Another surprise was the nice large patio slider out to a large balcony that overlooked a tranquil lawn and garden setting. This ventilated the room nicely during the warm evenings. We enjoyed the pool and spacious layout which enables the sun to flood into the court yards and pool area. However I wouldn't want a room right next to the pool as kids can be quite noisy when playing in a pool. The front desk staff were young, friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking and the place felt secure because of the court yard design. The free breakfast was great with a nice view across the marina whilst you eat. We had our own transport so the location was of no concern. There was a good selection of restaurants within a short drive and you could easily walk to some of them.

    3
« Good To Be Back Home »

Didn't want to be in the downtown Long Beach area, so this was a good choice for us. It had easy access to the freeways for us to get around to see friends and family. It's an older hotel near the beaches and my old stomping grounds. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. They have a restaurant on site, so there is no free breakfast. Nice Staff.

    5
    « Wonderful Stay! »

« Visit to Long Beach CA »

The hotel is nicely situated on the Pacific Coast Highway and easy to get to Long Beach Airport. The room is large with a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink, and there is another sink outside of it. The lower floor has a patio door that opens to the inner courtyard and pool area, which unfortunately is a cause of a soiled rug. There is a large Tv, but it needs improvement in sound and picture. Excellant breakfeast. Would return.

    4
« nice location, nice comfortable room and service »

The room was clean and nicely renewed (the bathroom is really nice and the shower is so comfortable without the tub!) There's a nice garden with a small pool. The service is good. Hostess are really kind. For breakfast there's quite of a variety of food. The view from the dining room is really nice.

« Decent place that could use a freshening »

I was here for a convention. The staff was very accommodating and helpful with the convention. My room was comfortable and clean but it seemed as if it had been a long time since the room was refreshed.

« The BEST PLACE TO STAY! »

Where should I start! I had such a great STAY! My husband booked the room as a getaway he made the right choice! At check in Jessica, helped us she was AMAZING seen her each morning to pick up breakfast tokens. She has great customers service with such a great personality. I had a room looking over the pool was great. Room was clean housekeeping maid who cleaned our room was so attentive ( wished I remembered her name) thank you so much for your great service! Jessica, gave such a good recommendation to have dinner across the street. ( Mexican place the best!!!) Made my second reservation already! *Rooms need better cable service. Besides that my stay was great! Janet. M

« Believe what you read... »

There were 0 (zero) towels in the room when I checked in, no cups for coffee maker, ants in the bathroom, spiders and webs above the wall air conditioner. Not that I used the air conditioner because it sounded like a jet engine. When I was brought two bath towels (no hand towel, wash cloth or bath mat) they were old and grey - just like the sheets on the bed. I sat on the desk chair only to realize it was wet. Maybe that accounted for the strange smell in the room. I also asked for non-down filled pillows. Again, they were old and had seen better days, probably in the 1950's. This hotel reminded me of something you see in a third world country. Bottom line, staying here is better than sleeping on a park bench but not by much. P.S. Refrigerator didn't work.

« Need to inspect your rooms more closely »

There were many issues that we came across on this trip. As stated before, we checked into our room, within 5min, our room was opened by another guest who was assigned the same room as well. The shower had several issues. The switch to turn on the shower did not work correctly, so water would come from both the bath and shower head. To add to the problem, only hot water would come out of the bath faucet. And if that wasn't enough, the shower drain was plugged, so you took a shower with the hot water coming out of the bath faucet and the water would be up to your ankles. The TV had bad reception, the screen would freeze and stay that way for a few minutes before resetting. The wifi was worse, our mobile devices continued to disconnect during our 3day stay. Our room keys had to be reset on 2 occasions, both keys. This has to be one of our worse stays for someone who had never stayed at a Best Western Hotel. We will be returning to Marriott after this disappointing experience.

    2
    « Overpriced, Dated & Beat Up »

Stayed here because I had a late gig at the club located at the hotel. Room was pricey, smelled of petroleum-based cleaning solution and was not very clean. General datedness and shabbiness of the property. Desperately in need of a serious makeover.

  • 1
    « Horrible experience »

We booked two Queen sized beds and not only did they not have that available but they blamed us for misbooking, although I had a correct email confirmation. We were given a card key to an already occupied room! Room phone didn't work, internet was poor, no extra pillow for the pull out couch. They had a room service menu but said they didn't offer the service?! Reluctantly gave me 25% off.. We are not interested in booking with any Best Western again.

    2
« Older Hotel, in need of maintenance »

Went to this hotel for a family reunion. First room had inoperable a/c (it was a 96 degree day). Next room had a noisy but operational a/c unit, but was on the second floor with no elevator If you've never wrangled a heavy bag up a narrow (garden-apartment style) flight of stairs, it's not exactly the kind of fun I was looking for. I don't know where the room in the picture is located, because the hotel is several blocks from the beach, but my room looked nothing like it. No large airy windows, not spacious, but dark and somewhat run down. I guess it was a bargain, but it was not a comfortable or pleasant stay. We had a late afternoon function that was due to be over at 7PM. At 7:05, a hotel employee came into the room to clear us out? They didn't have another event scheduled, but they wanted to make sure we didn't take more time than we had scheduled the room for. This was cheesy and inhospitable behavior, but perhaps in keeping with the character of the hotel.

    4
    « Very good hotel! »

It was a little expensive for what it was, and the internet didn't work very well in my room, which was sad... but overall, it was a nice place to stay. Convenient location, super-friendly staff, good quality ammenities, and very clean.

    2
« Property in DESPERATE need of renovation... »

Everything in the room was old and delapidated, except the little tv. Old, noisy air conditioner installed next to the bed. The very odd aspect was that the "jacuzzi tub/shower" was installed in the main room area - - bizarre! Every piece of furniture in the room, the breakfast dining room and PCH bar was beat up and made me cringe. I had a hard time sleeping here because of the noisy a/c unit and the awful condition of the bed gave me the creeps. I just wanted to stay out of the room so I sat outside a lot in one of the plastic chairs. A drawback for me was that there is no place to walk to for coffee/snacks and just some soda in the vending machine.

    3
    « Needs updating »

The rugs were old and dirty. The Hotel was difficult to find. It really needs updating. The Restaurant didn't open till 5:30pm. After a long day of driving was looking forward to eating and relaxing. That didn't happen. The food was totally overcooked. Bartenders spoke another language and talked amongst selves and were dressed like janitors. They didn't even know if we could order food at bar and then when we did, food was overcooked and they didn't even clean up our plates when we were finished. They need training!

    2
« Looks good in the rear view mirror »

My husband booked this hotel when the Air BNB and other places we normally stay in Long Beach were booked. It's a great location. But - that's about it. The room was huge. The bed uncomfortable, carpet dirty, furniture was old, uncomfortable, dinged up, stained. The breakfast ... was much more varied and 'lavish' than some, but it was still 'junk' food. This is a cheap hotel, with all that implies. I would stay in Pasadena and drive through traffic to family functions rather than stay at this hotel again. Oh,lab and wifi was slow or unavailable. The desk said, "sorry. we know. we are planning to fix it."

    1
    « Horrible »

I complained about the hair in the bath tube, there was a lot of it. and the front desk just took my name down and room number they did nothing didn't offer me another room, didn't offer me a discount. then the air conditioner did not work properly. by 4am I was freezing and could not shut the thing off. there was a Bad Smell in the hallways of Wet carpet that dried. I will never stay at this location again when visiting Long Beach CA.

    4
    « Very good »

Very good. Needs improvement water in the shower temperature Changed drastically from hot to cold. You do not expect that to happen. We like the location we will use it again. We have stayed in two different occasions.

    « Avoid this BW »

The rooms are outdated. There was a hole and mildew on the ceiling above our shower. Housekeepers yelling back and forth outside our room every morning at 7:30am. Breakfast was horrible, greasy food, very uncleanly, no self service coffee. Had some good experiences at BW the past couple of years, but do your self a favor and avoid this one!

« Great staff, clean room! »

Stayed with 3 friends because we were going on a cruise leaving from Long Beach, which a lot of other people were also doing... so definitely stay here if you're going on a cruise! Clean room and a great sleep, there was lots of people at the pool. Continental breakfast was amazing... even had waffles and pancakes. Only inconveniences were that the train doesn't come as often as we had hoped to bring us to downtown Long Beach (once you get downtown, there is a free bus loop that brings you down to the harbour), and you can only use the hotel's complimentary shuttle services while you are staying at the hotel and only until noon on the day you leave :(

    4
« Great room. Small busy single elevator. »

Our room 475 was very nice. Having room on forth floor required use of elevator. There is only one, it is small, and very busy. Overall good stay. On site restaurant and bar under change, bit confusing as to location and hours of operation.

« Excellent Location in Long Beach »

This hotel has a lot to offer for the cost, i.e., very nice free breakfast, free shuttle to local airport, some rooms are extremely large and the beds are very comfortable. Also, the hotel is across the street from good restaurants, movie theater, shopping, etc.

    « What a mess with billing!!! »

The hotel room and location were great. The problem is that the billing department was a MESS!!! I was billed completely twice!!! Also, I had to get my vouchers or breakfast Every day.....and I wasn't allowed to get my breakfast and take it to my room. Riciculous!!!! Why can't I take coffee and a bagel to my room??? The desk people were less than informed. I realize the hotel was getting new owners, but this isn't an excuse. The website says airport shuttle...Discontinued....

    « opinion »

The rates used to be affordable fr our needs and budget. Going from $120. to $170. has made it difficult for us to justify going back. That is our only problem, the budget just demands a lower rate. We just come in to do doctor appointments.

I chose this hotel from online listings because of cost, good reviews, and location in that order, while I had business about 10 miles away. « Great for One or Two Days - But Not Week Stay »

So, this hotel is O.K. - comfortable for sure (which is 90% of the battle), clean, nice breakfast if you can eat wheat (cause your only other alternative is scramble eggs if you're allergic) but it's great if you have no food restrictions. No real restaurant here - there is the PCH club that oddly serves drinks some hours and some salsa dancing in the evening but that's it. Not a good option because you HAVE to leave the property to eat. Room service is available but closes super early. I hated this. I got back from my conference late, not wanting to go anywhere, but had not choice as there are not options close to the hotel at night. Really a bad set up. Definitely walking distance from Cal State Long Beach if you need to go there for work or class. Good water pressure, but hotel is older and recommend taking a shower after 7:30 to get the right mix of hot and cold. Beds are VERY comfortable, staff is friendly. I would recommend only for certain things. Do NOT get a room facing PCH - if you have the window open you'll never sleep because of the traffic noise

    « Comfortable and clean »

The receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. It is a comfortable hotel with immaculate rooms. No points though since we booked through Expedia. Our room had a view of the pool. At first, we were concerned with noise since our room is across from the elevator but there was none. Breakfast was decent with plenty of choices. We choose hotels with free breakfast since we have 2 young children. The hotel does show it's age in regards to architecture and general room layout. We would definitely stay here again.

    « Not what I expected »

I called ahead of time to let the hotel know that our stay was to celebrate my wife's Birthday and since I am a Platinum Member of Best Western, they would try to upgrade our room. When we got to the BW Golden Sails Hotel in Long Beach, CA. I showed them my Best Western Card and they thanked me for being a Platinum Member. I asked if they are able to upgrade my room. The receptionist went to her computer and she told me that this hotel did not have rooms that were upgrades and all rooms were the same. She told me I would have a nice room on the 4th floor, rm.462, and it would overlook the pool. When we got to our room, they were still cleaning it and that we would have to wait a few minutes. Much to my dismay, my room was in the front and right next to Pacific Coast Highway that was very busy with cars and lots of noise. We made it work, but I was disappointed with our experience.

    « Disneyland Trip »

When 1st arriving the hotel looked great. Checked in, were given room 150 on the back side of the hotel & then I started questioning what this hotel was going to be like. As we pulled around to the back, there is a fence with a tarp like cover over it & very tight parking. There were only doors to the rooms & no windows. I'm beginning to feel like the place was sketchy. We grabbed our bags & went into our room. Once in, it was very dark & I started getting really worried. We flipped on lights & I did my inspection. To the left of the door was a vanity area with a wall separating it from the sleeping area. Huge plus due to it drowns out the light when one someone was sleeping. In the vanity area was a sink, micro, refer, coffee pot, cups, & coffee. Next to vanity area was the bathroom with another mirror, sink, toilet & shower/tub combo. Both vanities had EXCELLENT lighting which I liked for doing my makeup & my husband loved for shaving. The door to the bathroom was really hard to close. Had to use both hands to shove it shut, but no big deal for us. Sleeping area was HUGE!! We had a king size bed, 2 night stands, sitting chair with end table, dresser, desk w/chair & another vanity area. When I 1st laid on the bed, I thought it may be a little to hard. Honestly, the 3 nights we were there was the best 3 nights I've slept in a long time. Usually, I don't get any sleep in hotels due to being uncomfortable. But this bed, I laid down & passed out within minutes & slept the entire night all 3 nights. The A/C was a wall unit and was quite loud BUT drowns out any walking from the room above us or any slamming of doors. There was enough room to put a couch or another chair & end table and we still would have had more than enough room. The best part of the room though was the extremely large sliding doors (with black out curtains) that face out into a beautiful courtyard with gazebo & pool. All rooms that faced this common area either had balconies or porches that had porch lights & 2 chairs to sit outside & relax in. The room was very clean & kept up well for being an older property. There was free wi-fi, but be prepared cause it's not the best BUT it worked. Staff was beyond friendly & helpful. Breakfast, I did not eat but husband did & said they had waffles, bacon, etc. He says it was good but not great. We found out on our last night that they also have room service. Had we actually looked on the dresser at the pamphlets, we would have found out sooner & would have possibly tried it. Our drive to Disneyland was 30 minutes with light traffic, which wasn't bad & our drive to Long Beach was only 15 minutes in heavy traffic. We stayed for 3 nights & it was an absolute wonderful stay!!! Would most definitely recommend to anyone who is staying in the area!!

    « One of a kind service »

Started off checking in with Leo. He was so humorous and simply welcoming. Later one we experienced Noe. He was by far amazing. He helped me arranged a late checkout. Honestly he just made everything a million times easier. Breakfast was so surprisingly good. They had scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, fresh fruit etc. The young man who was pouring coffee was just so accommodating. Always asked if we needed anything. He kept our coffee cups filled too. I would definitely come back to the Sails. Thank you for being so good to my family and I. We appreciate it!

    « Worth the price. »

Nestled between the beach and CSULB, lies this huge Best Western. With ample amount of parking, one is mostly guaranteed to park very close to their room without the struggle of parking space. Now although the front desk staff at night is not the friendliest encounter, the overall hotel experience makes up for it. The rooms are well cleaned and well maintained. Each with a balcony that could be good or bad depending on your room. I will say always bring your own pillows, cause the hotel provides pillows never let me sleep. The breakfast offered here is 5 star service. The gentleman working was so helpful and on point. The view while eating breakfast overlooks a boat dock which I've never seen such a Best Western hotel provide this kind of serenity. I would definitely recommend this place. But fails on 5/5 due to night staff, comfort of bed and pillows, and balcony view. (Stay 5/19/17)

« Jessica is the hotels greatest asset »

Great trip great services. At check in Jessica hooked us up with great service, great rooms and a great rate. At breakfast the two waiters too care of us like we were the president. Enjoyed our stay because of the service. Thank you

« Just what we needed »

Easy access, close to everything the beach cities have to offer. Check in was easy, hotel was clean, rooms are a little outdated, and has exterior corridors, but I knew that going in. For the money we paid, the hotel was exactly as I expected it to be. It gave us a clean, comfortable place to stay for an affordable price, we were only there to sleep anyway. The complimentary breakfast buffet has something for everyone, and a nice view of the marina as well. There is live music in the lounge, but we did not visit. Staff was helpful in answering questions about getting around. There are many good restaurants and stores to get about anything you need within a five minute drive. Overall, I would stay here again.

« Pretty nice older hotel »

We weren't sure what to expect after reading the reviews of this hotel. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly and did their best to be helpful and accommodating, and that made the experience a good one for us. The check-in process was smooth and efficient. This is a very large hotel with multiple buildings, but we were on the third floor of the building with the front desk. We spent several nights here and we noticed an unusual odor in the hallway throughout our stay. It was also in our room at first, but we opened the door to the balcony and we eventually didn't notice the smell. Our small balcony had two chairs and overlooked the Pacific Coast Highway. Our heat/air unit wasn't working when we arrived. When we reported this, they couldn't fix it right away so offered us another room. We decided to stay in the original room since we had already aired it out and we were unpacked. It turns out we didn't really need the heat on the first night. The problem was fixed the next day. The room had a fairly large refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffee maker. The carpet appeared to be fairly new. The room was a bit dark, even with all the lights illuminated. The tub/shower provided a rubber mat and a grab bar for stability. The shower head provided good water pressure. Our rate included breakfast each morning which was served in the restaurant next door. We were each given a voucher to use so that we didn't need to pay. The buffet breakfast included fruit, cereal (including hot oatmeal), scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, and the fixings to make your own waffle. Juice and coffee are provided with the breakfast The WiFi signal was strong in our room and there are LOTS of electrical outlets for charging your devices. The WiFi didn't work for us at the breakfast buffet. Overall, our stay was fine. We enjoyed interacting with the friendly staff.

« Great Cruise and Park Hotel »

My husband and I and another couple stayed here the night before our cruise and we would definitely stay here again. The hotel is right off the Pacific Coast Highway close to lots of shops and restaurants. The hotel grounds are quite lovely, there was a wedding going on when we were there and that was nice. We ate in the hotel restaurant for dinner and breakfast and the food was really good. Our room was off the highway and we did not hear any road noise. The staff was extremely nice on check in and check out. Great hotel, we would stay again!

« A Great Stay In Long Beach »

My husband and I had a great stay at the Best Western Golden Sails Hotel in Long Beach recently. We liked the setting of the place, overlooking a yacht harbor at Marina Pacifica. On arrival, an extremely cordial, helpful older staff member offered to help us to load our luggage cart, and even went out to our car to assist with unloading our trunk. He then took our luggage on the elevator & up to our room where he helped to unload the bags. The room was spacious & great, with a comfy King size bed. Loved the bathroom, with 2 sinks and a very nice functional shower and bathtub. Very convenient to have a restaurant in an adjoining building. This hotel was only a 15 minute drive from the Aquarium of the Pacific. All in all, a great place.

    « Caring, Secure hotel. »

Very Impressed with the discreet 24 hr security that was on the premises. Hotel is dated, renovations have been done but poorly finished. Location is clean, very friendly staff. Pools were nice and property is well taken care of.

« Surprise, better than expected! »

I picked the property because of the reviews. When I arrived, I was a bit disheartened as it looked like an older property and to be honest a bit "tired". However, the kindness, courtesy and conscientiousness of the employees was incredible. They not only bent over backwards to make sure I had directions to where I was going, they had a bag with a drink and snack when they found out I would be out all day. The morning free breakfast was wonderful and again, the servers were very attentive. One of the best features was how clean the place was. The rooms and towels smelled fresh, beds were comfortable, and although my room basically faced PCA , there was not a lot of outside noise. Room had microwave and refrigerator as well as a coffee machine. It seems that there were always staff outside collecting trash that had blown from the highway, mowing, trimming or inside, mopping the floors. Pool was very large and clean, grounds well manicured. Small work out room but had all machines you needed, TV and water cooler. No, it's not a glitzy, glamor hotel but you do feel comfortable and very welcome. I will definitely stay there again!

« Cruise package - took us to the wrong port »

Make sure you verify that they will take you to the correct port for your cruise. We were taken to the wrong port and had to find another cab to take us to the correct port. Upon arrival back to port, the hotel refused to pay the cab driver for the entire fare, only up to $25. She told us they no longer take people to that port, only the one in Long Beach for Carnival. We were on Norwegian cruise lines; however, the hotel never once asked us which cruise line we were on. They told us the cruise package including parking and transportation to/from the port.

We were in town for a half marathon and some rest/relaxation. Great breakfast and great value. Not sure why people have complained about the "walk" to breakfast. The quality of the food was amazing! Would definitely book again.

« Best Western Golden Sails »

Not centrally located but just 45 minutes by taxi from LAX airport (non-rush hour!) and is about 2 miles from Seal Beach and 25 miles to Laguna Beach down the Pacific Coast Highway- well worth a visit. Clean and spacious room with large, comfortable bed, air conditioning, en-suite bathroom, coffee making facilities and a fried. Free Wi-Fi. There is a pleasant outdoor area behind the hotel with sunbeds and a swimming pool. There is no lounge or bar area in the hotel but there is a restaurant on the premises overlooking the marina (but not under the direct management of the hotel) for breakfast (excellent choice of hot and cold items) and evening meals (quality average). Helpful and courteous staff. Really need a car to explore the surrounding area. A good standard Best Western Hotel.

    « Surprisingly good »

I wasnt expecting much from this hotel to be honest as we hadnt actually booked it ourselves. It was booked by our holiday company to put us up for the night before we moved on elsewhere. But I was very very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. On first impressions when we arrived very late into the night it seemed just like what you would expect from a budget hotel. But the rooms are spotlessly clean with the biggest, most comfiest bed i slept in all holiday. It was also the first hotel we stayed in that offered a complimentary breakfast. There is a vast selection of various breakfast items and all were fresh and tasty. The rooms are very spacious and it also had the best shower I came across in any of our hotels in the States. Bathrooms were also spotlessly clean. I would say the only downside to the hotel is the location. Its a long long way from the cruise terminal if you find you have to stay here before getting on a cruise. So expect to pay top dollar for a taxi to the hotel from the Airport.... And again from the hotel to cruise terminal. Couldnt fault the hotel or the service provided as I personally found it a very comfy place to stay. Dont be fooled by first impressions..... Its rather good but miles from anywhere. I would definitely stay here again

« Great grounds, pool, jacuzzi--- some problems »

Very nice grounds for this type of hotel, staff is hit or miss, sometimes a little curt and rude at the front desk. Last time i stayed here 5 men were in the next room and were very loud and i called the front desk to ask them to send someone over to quiet them down (it was 1am when i called) and nobody was sent and the desk person acted like they didnt care really. I finally fell asleep at 3am when the men next door tired themselves out. This said, i've stayed here several times and never had this problem.

    « Don't judge a book by it's cover! »

My husband and I stayed at the hotel the weekend of the Long Beach Grand Prix. We were very pleased with the service and pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was. There was a large balcony overlooking the courtyard and the hotel was extremely quiet. There are several shopping centers and dining options within a mile of the hotel. We will definitely stay at this hotel the next time we are in town.

« Plain Jane.... staff makes up for it »

This hotel has seen its wear and tear. It was due for a remodel 10 yes ago. Fortunately the staff is very friendly and goes well above and beyond. My room was 3rd floor overlooking the pool, but smelled like a wet dog was the previous occupant. Fortunately the conference there kept my out of the room. Room was otherwise clean. Extreme hot/cold water temp spikes in shower.

    2
« Good location but dated hotel »

Close to everything but very dated as the AC was a loud, under-powered wall unit that didn't cool the room, terrible Wi-Fi reception, the TV had limited channels and the shower had minimal water strength. Breakfast was excellent however. The front desk staff was minimally interested in customer service.

    4
    « Great hotel »

Have stayed at this hotel on several occasions. Rooms are always clean, and breakfast next to the harbor is great. On this occasion, air conditioner unit was very loud. It appeared somewhat aged, and probably needs upgrade or servicing.

« My home away from home »

The hotel staff could not have been any more helpful and courteous than they were. The staff had a very pleasant attitude. Any of my requests were done quickly. The hotel grounds and hotel are all very well maintained and clean. Overall a great experience. Also, room rates are extremely competitive. No where in Long Beach can you find a Hotel like the Golden Sails for quality and price.

    5
« Best breakfast in the chain! »

While this hotel is somewhat dated in appearance, it's practical and efficient. That said, it's the breakfast that impresses! Served in a formal dining room overlooking a small harbor, the staff go out of their way to assist you to have a wide variety of buffet offerings.

    3
    « No managers »

I had a problem with my reservation. Upon arrival I was told they do not have a manager or supervisor on Fridays so no one could help with my problem until the next day. The next day, I was told they do not have a manager or supervisor on the weekend.

    « Thank you »

Fantastic buffet, decent view, quality pricing, wonderful trip with the family in a convenient area to get to and from tourist spots. Will stay at this location again if the need arises for the area. Next time if hotter would like to use the pool

« Excellent value, big rooms »

Check-in staff were very pleasant on Thanksgiving afternoon. Double rooms were quite large. Everything worked well. Tub/shower felt more narrow than usual. Breakfast buffet wasn't fancy but had everything we wanted.

« Always great place to stay for good price »

I am always pleased when I stay here. Fast check-in and check out. The breakfast is the best. An older hotel but clean and close to most attractions in LB. We came with another couple, even though we made separate reservations they had our rooms together. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

« Nice hotel, location and management. Front desk staff dismissive, curt and offhand »

Large room with a view of the marina. Facilities good. Clean room but as it faced the road it was noisy. Guests arriving back in the early hours of the morning woke me with their loud laughter and conversation. I did have an issue at check out which was kindly resolved by management. Howeve, the front desk, staff at check in gave poor service. Didn't give eye contact; said very little; told me how to reach my room. I asked - breakfast included? Yes - then reached for our vouchers. Only 2? Get more tomorrow. Wi fi? Password on the key holder. Why do I have to ask all these questions? Surely the first point of contact should be helpful and courteous We looked around and couldn't find a restaurant in the hotel,so it was back to the same front desk staff. Where is breakfasts? You go out of the hotel, walk a little distance then go into another door. As we checked out a gentleman had an early check in. I listened and he gotthe same few bits of information as I did from a different member of the front desk team. Management here is great. Front desk staff let the product down. Left with mixed feelings about this place.

    « Good stay »

Our stay at this Best Western was for convenience and to rest after celebrating my sister's 60th Birthday Bash. Family and friends came from out of state etc. We all had an enjoyable stay, breakfast food was good tasting, servers were friendly, and this Best Western was close to an AMC theater, Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, and grocery store...freeway....so bottom line...good deal.

Did not honor confirmed room request, noisy roof top A/C. Desk to me "Sorry boss, not much I can do". Why confirm in reservation notes and with me calling in before arrival and not honor it when I get there..?

    « I got to feel important »

Sometimes when you see what looks like a good deal you take it, knowing that it isn't as good as you think. It wasn't what I thought, it was way better. Let me hit you with some highlights. We reserved a king room. We got a king alright, but it included a huge jacuzzi tub and a patio with everything that was promised. One thing promised was the breakfast. The fruit was fresh cut and varied along with the full array of breakfast breads, eggs, sausage, bacon, hash browns, oh and for the waffles with fresh strawberry compote and whipped cream or real butter and syrup. I enjoyed these leisurly at a bayside table with a waiter who refilled my excellent coffee. Shuttle to the cruise terminal, not really, a private cab to the terminal. Parking during the cruise, these usually consist of some way off dirt lot or an assigned undesirable spot. They recommend at the Best Western Golden Sails that I park in the front by the doors, security goes there most, they say. Clean functioning rooms and decent furniture counts to me, obviously them too. Thank you. I want to tell you that I was starting to think that reviews were a waste of my time and I was going to quit doing them. I did have a little problem with the plumbing in the room and took it right to the front desk. They directed me to Alicia who fixed it and my attitude completely and immediately. She was impressive but the whole stay was wonderful and is on the must repeat list. Booked it again twice in Feb. I will always book as soon as possible in advance because I have stayed at other places in Long Beach and found the best in this range to be mediumish. I am lucky.

« Best Western Golden Sails Long Beach Calif »

This is an older hotel on pacific coast highway in Long Beach Calif. Great location - easy access to beaches, Belmont Shore, freeway entrance/exits. Great restaurants close by, grocery stores and "fun" shopping. The hotel has been updated . Very clean with spacious rooms and large closets and great bathrooms. Plenty of hot water and don't hear other water's running- loved the quiet. Staff friendly and helpful. Nicest stay in any hotel- compares to a Fairmont but less expensive !

« Entertainment, close to thing to do »

Good location to things to do, The only thing we had that wasn't good, was that the pool wasn't full on our first day. Good entertainment in the lounge at night. Good breakfast and good dinner with a lot to pick from.

    « Perfect Park & Sail Hotel »

This hotel has a friendly staff, large rooms and a great park and sail hotel for cruise. It includes transportation to and from the port. There is a full breakfast served in a comfortable restaurant, rather than juggling a plate in the lobby. I have used this hotel in the past and will continue to come for every cruise I take from Long Beach.

    « USA 2016 »

It appears we had a similar room to other recent reviews, pleasant outlook looking towards the gazebo and the pool further along, which is currently out of action. We are staying for three nights mid week and have not had reason to feel unsafe. The room is big enough with a large king bed that is very comfortable, two good sized bed side tables, a six drawer chest, a desk with a comfortable desk chair, an arm chair with foot rest. Bathroom was adequate given there is a separate basin in the area at the entrance along with a coffee maker, fridge & microwave. Lighting in all areas was very good. The AC is very noisy and the Internet keeps dropping out which was most annoying. I didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on that, overall I think it is value for money.

« Not a bad hotel, but nothing special »

I stayed at the Best Western Golden Sails during a road trip down the Californian coast with my fiance. We stayed in many hotels in many different places during our holiday and this one unfortunately was our least favourite. The room itself was basic and needed updating (the aircon unit looked like it came from the 70s), however it was spacious and comfortable. There are loads of parking spaces, and breakfast was nice (hot and cold buffet, served in a restaurant overlooking the harbour) - although no good if you're in a rush, as it was eat-in only. Our main issue was that we didn't feel entirely safe here - we could smell a lot of marijuana around, and on the Saturday night there was a high security presence with what looked like bouncers outside the reception area. Also the only safes available were behind reception, and they are so small they can only fit something very small and flat inside - plus once we'd handed everything over and walked to our car, the receptionist came running out saying she needed our key back beause she'd forgotten to lock it. We didn't have any major problems at the Golden Sails, it was just not as nice a motel/hotel as all the others we stayed in.

    « Just okay »

Stayed for 3 days while visiting relatives. We were disappointed entering room as it needed total rehab. Carpet was questionable. :( A basic motel room. Next day asked for a better room and it definitely improved. Front desk was very helpful with the change! Free breakfast was a plus!

« Great night club on premises! »

Went to go see a night of great music including classic rock tributes. The Rock House aka PCH Club is on the first floor off to the side near the marina. I didn't stay at the hotel but went to see the bands only. They rocked the house! Great acoustics, wonderful service. The bouncer was helpful. Clean restrooms. Nice place for a night of great music with earplugs for sale :)

« Not what I would expect from BW »

We stayed here for 1 week and was ok. The room was very big and had enough space for the two of us. We had a back room of the hotel (motel style) with parking at the rear. The only disappointing point from the room itself was the adjoining door to the next room, which we had too much noise from. Subsequently we just had the aircon on all the time to drown out the noise. Bathroom a little on the small side, yet there was a separate wash area outside the bathroom. Large balcony even though the view was if the swimming pool, which was no interest to me. Housekeeping staff very friendly and efficient, as was the staff in the restaurant where we had breakfast most days. With breakfasts you have to obtain a voucher daily to use the next morning which was a bit inconvenient having to go to reception every evening. Hotel was probably great in the 70s/80s but could do with a revamp. During our stay our car had tried been broken into, thankfully no real damage yet put a downer on the stay. Hotel staff were not interested when we reported this. We ended up parking at the front of the hotel each night after this. It was a great base for our visit, yet wish we had stayed elsewhere.

    « Bug bites & more »

Here is my experience of Golden Sails, 1.Upon check in the place looked ok,Clean and Tidy,But once we got our key and proceeded to our room I noticed that it is not a hotel but a motel,We were given a ground floor room as my wife has problems walking upstairs and we were informed that the room we were due to be in was upstairs and the elevator was not working. 2.Upon entering our room there was a strange smell think it may have been a damp smell,The door to the room also had a gap that you could see daylight through. 3.The first morning of our stay I noticed some bite marks on my legs below my knees and around my ankles,I also saw a couple of strange looking bugs in the room which scurred of when I got near to them,I informed the front desk and they said they would get housekeeping to investigate but nothing was done. 4.The morning of check out I noticed that there was more bite marks and they were itchy I showed them to the front desk upon check out and they took some pictures on her smart phone so they could investigate it. 5.The first night of our stay after a long drive from Las Vegas there were people sitting around the pool area talking very loud and keeping us awake i phoned the front desk who said they would sort it out but nothing was done and they eventually went off to bed at about 2.30am. 6.The second night of our stay was pretty much the same but with thadded inconvenience of people jumping into the pool this did eventually stop at about midnight. All in all I would not recommend this MOTEL to anyone,The only thing that was ok was the breakfast (no bunfight_ and location.

« Looking for Quiet & good Breakfast? »

We went here for the last part of our trip to California. It was quiet, safe and peaceful. There was a pretty garden off of everyone's balcony, at sunset it made for pretty pictures with the lit up gazebo. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, I loved that they offered scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, make your own waffles, hash browns, fresh fruit, oatmeal with toppings to add, they offered 2 different juices & yogurt, it was a lovely change from the Continental Breakfast that those other hotels serve. They had staff that brought your coffee, water or anything else that you needed. The staff were so friendly, fast and accommodating in the PCH Club, for the breakfast. The Staff at the front desk were very helpful, we couldn't get our wine cork out and they were more then happy to help us, lol! The rooms were decently sized for having two Queen beds in the room, you had room for your luggage and could still walk around the room comfortably with 3 people, from my experience. I loved that they had 2 sinks and counter tops to use, especially for 3 girls traveling together. The only challenge was the bathroom, the vent fan in there, if there really was one. If there was a vent fan, it could not do it's job well. Poor ventilation caused the bathroom to stay very humid, foggy from steam, it made the floor super wet. The water in the shower was a little erratic on the temperature, which is probably to be expected in a Hotel, it did cause a little frustration. When anyone came out of the bathroom from using the shower, the steam and humidity rushed out to the second powder room area, which made it hard to get ready because of the humidity from the bathroom. The a/c window unit was all the way across the room, so it really couldn't help very quickly to cool down the bathroom area and take out any moisture. We opened the front door, which was by the bathroom, to let some of the humidity out. Luckily, we were on the back side of the building, which was not very occupied, so we didn't have a lot of people looking in our door. Over all, our stay was very pleasant, we stayed for 3 nights, we had 3 lovely breakfast. It was close to a lot of areas that we wanted to go visit, so it was very convenient for us. We stayed in 3 different hotels during our trip, and this by far, was the best one. It's very close to In-N-Out Burger, Ralph's grocery, many restaurants, gas stations and many stores.

« It was Cheap and Clean »

You know sometimes you just need a place to lay down without all the hoopla. Found it. Close enough to the Long Beach Convention Center and the Queen Mary for one third of the ritzy hotels. Just don't expect a chocolate mint on your pillow or fancy animals made out of towels.

« Definitely dated but quiet »

This is an older property is trying to live up to its glory days. My room was on the top floor and the hallways smelled...old. The rooms could stand to have a severe facelift and the elevator was broken down for two of the three mornings I stayed here. The rooms were relatively clean but there was debris from prior guests in the tub area. Being an older property, the room was quite large, however the area around the washroom was more narrow and a tight fit considering the overall size of the room. The location was great being off the highway and still close to the marina, beach, and multiple grocery and drugstores. Breakfast was offered in the morning (remember to ask for your vouchers daily) and WIFI signal was very strong and reliable! Checking in and out was a breeze - staff were efficient and pleasant. For the price paid, this was decent however I feel that next time I would pay more money to stay closer to the city, or right on the beach and updated rooms.

Came to stay at Best Western before our cruise and the accommodations were great! The room was comfy, and quiet, just what we needed from a 6 hour drive. The service was outstanding, and we will definitely stay there again when we travel back to California!

« Park and Cruise Package »

This hotel is a typical Best Western stay. The beds were decently comfortable. The air conditioning took forever to cool the room. It wasn't on when we arrived, and though it wasn't terribly hot in Long Beach at the time, it was stuffy and warm in the room. The park and cruise package is well worth the cost, including one night at the hotel, breakfast for four, round trip transportation to and from the Long Beach cruise terminal. The biggest negative was finding a large roach in our room. It was so late at that point, we didn't report it to the hotel, so I couldn't tell you if they would have done something. But it didn't make for a peaceful night sleep...imaging more roaches crawling around. The only other thing of note is, if I were to stay again and leave my car, I would look into the security of the parking lot. They make you park your cars in the row nearest to the main road. When we came back after our 7 day cruise, you could tell someone had wiped dust off of our windows with their fingers. It was on all four passenger windows, giving me the idea someone was looking to steal out of the car. I did see a security person inside the hotel, but again the cars are easily accessed from the road.

    « Wonderful stay »

We were quite satisfied with our room. We went on a cruise and stayed there before leaving and one night upon returning. The room was spacious and had refrigerator and a nice balcony. Staff was friendly and it was a serene setting. Swimming pool and area nice and relaxing as well. Free breakfast which was nice, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toaster for toast, bagels, English muffins, oatmeal, waffles, juice.....very good and plentiful. Dinner and lunch available at same location as well as room service. Nice place to unwind before and after trip.

    « Good Stay »

Overall the hotel is good. The breakfast buffet was awesome and so was the service. Our room was nice but dated. The location is great since there are restaurants and shopping within walking distance and Seal Beach is only a 10 minute driver away. The Hotel Staff was nice on both arrival and departure. I would stay there again.

« You Get What You Pay For »

This is an honest review so other travelers are well informed. The only reason I chose the hotel was because it was $20.00 less than the usual Best Western I stay at. My hotel stay was for 2 nights. Room #1: The toilet overflowed water from the tank onto the floor once I flushed, not overflowed from the toilet. Ok, so I called the Front Desk and was given another room, but I sat waiting in my room for over a half an hour. So I called the Front Desk again inquiring when the maintenance technician would bring me another room key, which was within minutes. He was nice, very apologetic, and carried my bags to my new room. New Room #2: the refrigerator was not clean; the remote control did not scroll Up, just Down which was a royal pain in the rear having to scroll all over again if you missed a channel; the cable channels are limited to just basic channels. There is a Welcome Book near the t.v. with a channel listing that does not coincide with the actual t.v. channels; the carpet beneath and around the sink area was soaking wet; there was urine behind the toilet seat, so for this i went down to the front desk to let them know. Once again I was given an option for a new room but declined. I was already unpacked and tired. I honestly believe an employee used the room for a quick toilet break; and if you are a gym enthusiast, the A/C in their gym was not working. The front desk agent told me that the A/C is controlled by the thermostat in the meeting room next door. So essentially unless there is a meeting, no air will flow into the gym. Lovely; and last but not least, there were a few weight machines that desperately need pin repair. The front desk agent told me that the technician is scheduled to repair them once the occupancy of the hotel decreases after Labor Day. Mmmm........ so for occupants like myself, we had to suffer through the hot gym and machines that did not work because we are staying at the wrong time of the year? You are given a Voucher for your free breakfast, which I passed up. There is plenty of parking, and there is a restaurant/bar located next to the property. I am originally from Long Beach so I know this area very well. The Marina Shopping Center is across the street, to the east on Pacific Coast Highway are a few grocery stores, other eateries, a movie theater, even a Bev Mo and a Trader Joe's. To the west on Pacific Coast Highway toward downtown is a CPK, El Torito, In n Out, or you head downtown on 2nd Street toward trendy Belmont Shores for a larger selection of restaurants and bars. My advice for other travelers is to CHECK your room as soon as you arrive. Make sure the sink and shower plugs work, the toilet is 100% clean, and that the up and down arrows on the remote control function. This was just an "okay" place to stay, no frills, no great expectations, just a place to lay your head at night.

    « Nice relaxing stay »

We know this review is for a stay last month, things got away from us, but we think it will be helpful and also recognize the efforts of the employees of this hotel. We did a lot of research on various sites before we chose this hotel. We were impressed with the reviews that told of the care and concern for travelers by the staff. Our main must haves are safety, cleanliness, and great customer service. We arrived late at night so we couldn't get a true feeling of the hotel. There was security at the entrance to the parking lot which made us feel good about the safety. The front desk personnel were courteous and informative, but not friendly or welcoming. We expect more from those in the hospitality industry. We have high standards when spending our hard earned money. That being said, as our stay went on, the front desk staff were always helpful and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. We weren't familiar with the area and had business by the convention center. We could have stayed closer to it, but from reading reviews of the closer hotels, it didn't seem as safe as we wanted. As it was, the convention center area was only an easy 10-15 minute drive. After seeing where the closer hotels were, we were happy we stayed here. The hotel is older and decently maintained. What we loved was our room. It was huge. The room was very clean and comfortable. It faced Pacific Coast Highway and the hotel itself is set in a nice neighborhood. We didn't find the noise from PCH distracting. The room had a balcony which made the room feel even bigger. Being on the balcony was relaxing. There is a small marina next to the hotel and a water way. About a block down there are stores including a Ralphs grocery store. The breakfast buffet was one of the best things about this stay. It is set in a room next to the marina, with a nice view. The gentlemen that run the breakfast are tops in service, A+. We would definitely stay here again.

« Golden Sails Hotel, Long Beach »

Excellent value, friendly and clean. Food was very good and staff was friendly. Rooms were very clean and large. The pool was nice and clean. Very nice pool area. You are with in walking distance of shopping.

« Large room, very good breakfast »

Large clean room. Good breakfast at the adjacent restaurant (PCH Club). Housekeeping wasn't quite "on their game" - - shorting our room towels, glasses, and sundries; but they were brought to us straight away when requested. Pool area is spacious. A/C is through the wall type. Elevator is small and slow. Laundry room is clean. Overall a good value, and we would stay again.

    « Nice basic hotel-Good breakfast »

Group of us stayed here this year, Met up with friends from other states. Basic rooms, breakfast was very good. Staff was friendly. Pool was nice & outside. Would stay here again. Another nice thing we found out was they will shuttle you free to Long Beach airport.

« Cannot rate this hotel low enough »

The experience started by a rude greeting of "oh honey, no way for check in" with a tapping of her watch. She finally l let me register, but told me to come back after 2:30. It got worse floors so dirty our feet were black. Pool disgusting, weird floating algea like debris. Asked if I could check out early, sure, no problem. Of course when I checked out, I was informed I was being charged for the full stay because I used Priceline. Argued with me, insisting too bad, computer says I used Priceline. I booked with AAA, when I am home, I will be filing formal complaints.

« Great place to stay before your cruise »

We stayed the night before our cruise and we were pleased. The rooms are a little dated, but it was clean and we had no issues. It's near many restaurants. They have a bar onsite, which is a pretty big area. We went in for drinks in the evening and we had the WHOLE place to ourselves. The bartender was very nice. They also offer complimentary breakfast which was very good. Scrambled eggs, potatoes and make your own waffles which were yummy. You also have a view of the little marina from the breakfast area. We would definitely stay again.

    4
    « Great service »

We had four rooms for twelve of us. The rooms were very spacious and we each had a balcony. The breakfast buffet was very good. The best part was how very nice and helpful all of the employees were! We had the cruise package so we were able to leave our cars at the hotel and they provided transportation to and from the cruise terminal.

    « wonderful stay! »

Loved this hotel! I have stayed in several hotels in the Long Beach area for business purposes. This by far is the best I have stayed in for the value. I highly recommend it. Excellent breakfast, shopping in close proximity, plenty of restaurants close to choose from, LARGE spacious rooms, very clean, staff accommodating, beautiful courtyard with pool. Safe area. Cost is very competitive and I have stayed in a couple really scary hotels for a lot more money in the Long Beach area. This place is very safe! I will stay at this location each and every time I am in the area for business. I suggest this hotel to anyone traveling to the area! you will not be sorry!

    « Nice, nice people »

The staff here have been very well trained in customer service. I train customer service people, so I know what good service is. They were unanimously polite, friendly, joking- and I think they have a lot of repeat business because they knew a lot of guests by name. Breakfast overlooking the marina is lovely. I highly recommend this hotel.

« Friendly staff and reasonably priced »

The staff was nice and very helpful when we had issues with parking. The hotel is old but clean. It's only a few minutes away to long beach. They may need to upgrade but not essential. The bed is comfortable and we had a good sleep. Free breakfast included which is good value for money.

    « Wonderful stay!! »

We had a very nice stay at this hotel! The staff was very friendly and accommodating to any requests. The breakfast buffet was amazing and saved us from having to buy lunch each day. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. The surrounding area was nice and we felt very safe! Very nice pool and hot tub as well as a laundry area that was inexpensive. If I had to say of one con, the wifi was somewhat weak. Would definitely stay here again:)

« Great hotel, staff, location... everything! »

We checked in this hotel, not knowing what to expect. The people at the front desk were super friendly and helpful. They told us everything we needed to know about getting around and the area. We got to our room, it was a little bit older of a hotel, but in really good shape! Everything worked, it was clean and newly remodeled... very impressed! We had a balcony that overlooked the pool too! The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed... Loved it!!! I usually stay in Inglewood when I come to California, but now I have a new favorite spot! The beaches are right down the road, there is lots of places to eat and shop... but not overly crowded. A+ 100% awesome... What else can I say??

    « A Rare Retreat »

This hotel is a rare retreat from the hustle and bustle of Southern California beach cities despite being right on Pacific Coast Highway. We asked for a room with a view of the pool and grounds and had a balcony away from traffic and open to the sea breezes and the sunset. There is an elevator if you are mobility-impaired so no one should be disappointed. Great complimentary breakfast, too!

« The weather was great »

For my family and I getting away from the heat was the most important thing about our mini vacation. Long Beach climate was the first thing we noticed and loved. The location of the hotel was an ideal stay for our little get away. The convenience of its location on the Hwy 1 was an excellent idea. We loved the flexibility of getting in and out of the hotel to get to the beaches near and far. Thank you for your assistance in finding our way in this beautiful city.

    « excellent value »

this is an older property however it is very clean, comfortable, quiet and an excellent value. the property is easily accessible from the freeway and central to beach cities and amusement parks in Anaheim .

    « Had to cancel »

Both booking .com and best western were very understanding when we needed to cancel due to sudden illness. They waved the cancellation fee which they did not have to do. I would book with either the hotel or booking.com again. The people I spoke with were lovely and very understanding.

« Nice hotel in the Long Beach area »

The staff were very hospitable. Everyone continually asked if I needed anything whenever I was in the lobby. If I had any questions they were eager to answer them. The room was nice spacious and clean, the air conditioner worked albeit a bit noisy but most in hotel rooms are. Breakfast was in a restaurant called the PCH club next to a small Marina. Due to the food being served in the restaurant it could not be taken to the room but coffee could.

    « A Best Western Fail »

I had the need to stay here 6 times over the last year for business. The property is tired and in need of major upgrades. Nothing about the property, except location, justifies the rate. I guess they feel secure in the government business they do. Equipment in the "fitness center" was broken on each visit even though this had been reported to the front desk multiple times. On a positive note, the staff of the adjacent PCH Club make the effort to be pleasant and professional.

    « Great stay »

This hotel was amazing for the price. everything was good from Front desk through housekeeping. The breakfast that comes with the room is really good. The beds in the room were very comfortable. Will come back next time I am in Long Beach

    « Older but Better »

Stayed here for a 6 days visit with Family. The hotel is in Facelift mode but the staff was friendly, the breakfast great and the service both room, front desk and restaurant was wonderful. We are staying there in October, also as we were very happy with this hotel, and the Breakfast is included. They have nightly entertainment, laundry facilities, pool, hot tub, what else can you want for.

« An odd stay in an odd motel in an odd city. »

This Best Western is very convenient to CSULB, has a bus line running right out front, and is close to several shopping centers and close enough to downtown. It was clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful, but it was odd. Entering my room, the door appeared to have been kicked in and repaired at some point in time, a little unsettling. The room decor was dated, but not especially worn. A lack of maintenance was reflected in a shower curtain bar that just needs two screws tightened to not be a problem. And it takes forever to get hot water in the sink, but it's right quick in the shower. Room was clean, but towels, toiletries and coffee supplies had not been refreshed. Fellow guests seemed like contractors in town for a job and budget minded tourists. I live just 25 miles from Long Beach, so I'm unlikely to stay at a hotel in Long Beach again, but I will certainly have this Best Western at the top of my affordable list when I do.

« Met all of our needs »

We stayed here the night of 7/9/16 on our first-ever California trip. The place was impeccably clean, the $85 a night rate (for seniors) was a bargain, with a free breakfast buffet included in the price to boot! Two sinks in every room, a mini-fridge AND microwave and a walk-out balcony (ours overlooked the pool) rounded out the amenities. We like firm beds, and our room delivered on that. The only negative was that the only elevator available to us was rather small -- a challenge for two couples with 8 pieces of luggage.

    5
    « Great Surprise »

The hotel from the outside looks old, but it is very clean and accommodations are very comfortable. The room is spacious. The fact that the hotel is on the older side has a plus to it--you don't hear any street noise or noise from other rooms. I did not have to wear ear plugs as I usually do. It's in a great location in Long Beach--close to the beach, in a safe area with shops and restaurants around. The pool is heated and fabulous, along with the hot tub. DO NOT MISS THE BREAKFAST THAT IS INCLUDED. There is everything you can think of and the restaurant is quality. Great surprise to this traveler!

    « Great hotel. »

This hotel was clean, had very big room. It was well priced. Every room has a balcony or patio. There is a pool and a hot tub. It is right beside a marina, so nice water view. Staff were friendly and helpful. The free breakfast was fabulous. It is a buffet with pretty much anything you want for breakfast. Close to stores and restaurants.

    2
    « Vastly overpriced »

You are paying for the location on pch and it's proximity to surrounding beaches. The pictures do NOT include surrounding areas intentionally. There is literally a oil refinery next door with smoke stacks and oil derrics. The breakfast is the silver lining but that's included in the price. I would consider this place again if they cut their prices in half. We paid 108 for a king bed 4th floor. Breakfast is at the pch club that is beside the hotel. The view looking out from the pch club windows face the oil refinery??

    4
    « Good value! »

I have stayed here twice. The front desk could be friendlier but they did the job. Rooms are clean and we'll appointed. Nice pool. Breakfast stops serving promptly so be on time or you will miss out. Location is good...close to Seal Beach and many sites.

« Great option for those going on a cruise »

Our family spent two nights here before leaving on a cruise out of Long Beach. We found it to be just what we were looking for. Reasonably priced, clean rooms, good service, complimentary breakfast, and the ability to park our car there for the duration of our cruise. The location is great right on the Pacific Coast Highway, close to many dining options, beaches, etc. We visited Seal Beach which is only 5 minutes away. The cruise package was great since we didn't want to deal with the hassle and cost of parking at the cruise port. Our kids had a great time in the pool and hot tub. The rooms are a little older, but clean and kept up. As far as complimentary breakfasts go, this one is better than average with a pretty good selection of hot breakfast foods. For the price you pay I think this is a great option in Long Beach and I would certainly stay here again.

    « Friendly Atmosphere »

Very friendly & accomodating staff. Quiet place...nice place to relax. Close to several restaurants & shopping I would stay here again. Breakfast was adequate...staff was attentive and never let your coffee cup go below half-full.

« Old rooms, freeway facing room »

This place is horrible, the rooms are old, worn out and the air conditioner is the noisiest ever. I also got a freeway facing room, so all night I heard cars zooming past! To avoid that I put on the archaic air-conditioner which made enough noise to lessen the effect of the outside traffic. The hotel did not feel safe, the area around was sad. Breakfast is in a restaurant next door so not bad but really, the hotel is not worth it.

    5
    « Excellent Hotel »

I go there twice a year and very great service year around. Highly serviced and great people working at this location. There is great shopping around the area and locales for people to see. The Queen Mary and Belmont Shore area, and the Shore you meet the find people there, very nice.

« Can't beat the price with location and a free good hot breakfast! »

    « Great Improvements »

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Golden Sails on June 13,2016. We have been a guest at this Hotel several times in the past. We were quite impressed with the up grades that have been made to this facility and its the cleanliness. Hotel personnel were seen at all times washing windows, vacuuming or cleaning the floors and walks. Our room was on the upper floor, extremely quiet and afforded as view to the west and sunset from the balcony. Our bathroom was one of the cleanest we have ever experienced on our travels. The rest of the room was clean, neat and well appointed. The sliding glass door to the balcony was crystal clear spotlessly clean. The provided breakfast is something to look forward too! The buffet is provided in a restaurant adjacent to the hotel, which also offers banquet facilities and a night club. The food was freshly prepared, nicely displayed and delicious. There is a nice view of the marina with comfortable seating providing a very relaxing environment to enjoy your morning meal. I can only say that management has really gone to great lengths to improve the overall facility since our last stay. The staff was courteous and attentive. It would appear that they are striving to achieve a "Plus" rating for their facility and are doing a great job. We are looking forward to an opportunity to a future stay at this facility

« Older property, good location »

The hotel is a little on the old side, but the staff is very friendly. Stayed for two nights. I had a very spacious King room. Needs some updating. The bathroom was quite small, but had everything that you needed. Parts of the bathroom have been updated, but other parts need some work. I had an issue with the toilet running all the time and not flushing, the handle broke. I told the desk and a maintenance person fixed it by the afternoon. There is a full breakfast in the morning; includes bacon, sausage, hash browns, eggs, waffles. This was one of the best breakfast I've had at a hotel. Planning another trip to Long Beach next year and I will most definitely stay here again.

    3
    « Nice stay...... 3.5 stars out of 5 »

Stayed 4 nights, nice large room in tower with windows on both sides. Dated hotel but I can get past that. Had to reset the room key each day. Maid service only would restock 2 towels a day even though we had 3 in the room. Minor stuff though, if the price was right I would stay here again.

    4
    « Outdated...BUT.... »

Thsi BW property looks outdated on the outside, but the rooms are good, basic and quiet. It's proximity to CSU Long Beach is very good. It's in a safe area (Gaslamp) with a lot of military staying here. The breakfast could use an upgrade. The property landscaping is nice and has a big, comfortable pool. The rooms are spacious and the staff is VERY friendly and attentive! For the price, this BW offered a great location and good value. Especially if you have a kid going to college and you're on a budget! lol

    « Business trip »

The hotel is not new, but is very clean. My room was, in a word, spacious. Very comfortable bed and the property is conveniently located. I was here for two weeks and was not disappointed. Now, the focal point that made my stay enjoyable. The staff was phenomenal. The front desk staff was always there with a smile and a willingness to be helpful. I had some packages shipped in for a class I was teaching and not only were they gracious in receiving and holding them, they got me in touch with Edgar, the food and beverage manager, who actually deployed his staff to get them to the room where the training was being held.

    « Best Western »

Loved this hotel and the staff. Everyone was courteous. The hotel includes a real breakfast in the morning, including eggs and bacon, not just a muffin. The pool was warm so the kids could swim in the early morning. The rooms were clean. Would for sure come back.

« Convenient for this work trip... »

An older, but clean hotel. Bed comfortable. Wished the tv had some sort of guide to make finding channels a little more easy. Water took a long time to get hot for a shower. Had a free breakfast with voucher system, but I didn't get to experience it because I had to leave too early. Would probably stay again.

    4
    « Great spot »

Hotel is located conveniently to everything - shopping, restaurants, beach, marinas, bike riding. Plenty of parking. Older hotel, with larger rooms, updated for overall appearance - rooms could be updated a little, but not bad. I stay here often and have never been disappointed.

    3
« Poor front desk service »

All employees at front desk were very curt. Not helpful, especially the first man I spoke to. Price on phone and confirmed by E-mail different then when I arrived. Very condescending employees. Will think twice before staying on the property again.

    4
    « Always stay here »

Every year we head down to Belmont Shores for Stroll and Savor and we have always stayed here. As I am making plans for this summer, I will review from last summer's stay. This stay was in the back of the hotel, the rooms are somewhat smaller and older. The room overlooks the Gazebo and pool area. We watched a wedding being set up. The room was comfortable, check-in easy. Included is a very nice breakfast buffet overlooking the marina. This was my 4th stay and I've never been disappointed.

    « May 2016 »

The staff was friendly. The room was nice and comfortable. The property was a little dated, but that did not bother me. I found everything I needed. The breakfast was generous and good. The meeting room was just what we needed.

    2
« Electrical Hazards but good breakfast »

The rooms are getting dated. The electrical in Room 103 borders on a fire hazard. The plugs behind the TV are hanging loose out of the wall. There is a regular 110 volt plug in the bathroom that is not a ground fault plug.( chance of electrocution ) The patio doors are pretty much worn out. The place needs a complete renovation of the rooms, ie not lipstick on a pig. The outside doesn't look that bad except for a few wooden panels that need attention. the most positive thing I can say about the stay is the breakfast. The breakfast is a FULL buffet in a fancy yacht club next door. Best included breakfast I had on my 10 day tour of Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. The breakfast servers were so good I left a tip which is not the norm for included breakfast at motels that are mostly Continental and full self serve.

« Helpful Friendly Staff, Close To Water »

I was so impressed with this hotel's staff. They were very helpful and friendly. And the location was a good one, too. Close to shopping, the beach, etc. I would have preferred to visit for a vacation or some beach time. Instead, I was there to conduct a seminar. The meeting facilities were less than desirable because this hotel is better suited for an event such as a party, wedding reception, or banquet. The room lay out, lighting, tables, chairs, etc., were not at all conducive to a good learning environment for a seminar. Plus there were NO TEMPERATURE CONTROLS for the room. (Broken for a long time, according to one of the staff). We struggled with temperature and lighting adjustments both days. Acoustics were not good, either. The guest room was spacious and comfortable and I appreciated the in-room refrigerator and micro-wave. I would be willing to stay here again, but I would prefer not to teach a seminar here again.

« Nothing fancy but a great place with fabulaous breakfast. »

We stayed two nights here to be close enough to visit Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, and then head down to San Diego at an reasonable price. We had to plan our to and fro to avoid high traffic hours but managed ok. Theree is a nice inner garden to read, sn and relax with a good sized pool (but not very clean). The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our room keys kept getting de-magnetized which is annoying. The hotel includes an incredible buffet breakfast at the PCH Club (within the complex) with all you could want for a full hearty breakfast. The surroundings leave a bit to be desired as there are oil rigs and oil storage tanks nearby. But there is also a marina right next to the hotel which improves the decor somewhat. This area of Long Beach seems to be more of a common folks area of LA Metro so it's ok as a transit place rather than a holiday destination. For our purposes it fit the bill quite nicely.

« Top notch customer service. »

I booked a room for my two sisters and I to stay for one night prior to leaving on a cruise out of Long Beach. I was able to book the fly, stay, sail package by calling the hotel prior to our stay. After arriving at the Long Beach airport we called the hotel and they promptly sent a van to transport us to the hotel. The young gal who checked us in was very courteous and helpful. We had requested a roll-a-way bed which was readily available. The room was large and very clean. The beds were very comfortable. We had wanted to go to the grocery store but it was across a busy highway and we were reluctant to walk there. The staff volunteered to drive us there and then waited while we shopped. That is what I call going above and beyond in customer service. The next morning we enjoyed a delicious sit down breakfast in the adjoining restaurant and then we were transferred to the ship in a taxi provided by the hotel. Wow! I would definitely stay here again if I were in the area and would highly recommend the hotel to other guests especially those staying there prior to or after a cruise. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Golden Sails!

    « Great Customer Service »

My two sisters and I stayed at the Best Western Golden Sails hotel prior to taking a cruise out of Long Beach, Ca. We booked the fly, stay and sail option. For one affordable price we were picked up at the airport by the hotel van and transferred to the hotel. We had two very comfortable beds and a roll-a-way which still left plenty of room for the rest of our stuff. We also had a hearty breakfast the next morning which was included in the cost of the room and were transferred to the cruise ship by taxi, also included in the price. The staff at the hotel went above and beyond to make our short stay enjoyable. We had wanted to go the grocery store across the highway but it seemed a bit far to walk. The staff offered to drive us over in the van and also waited for us while we shopped. That's what I call great customer service. I have nothing but good things to say about this place, Sure there are newer and fancier places to stay in the area but when it comes to customer satisfaction this hotel can't be beat. Thanks you Best Western Golden Sails and congratulations on having such an awesome staff.

We got a nice big room. The morning breakfast staff was really something extra! They are so polite, always helping and serving and on top it with a beautiful smile that makes you so happy. And so is the reception staff too ;) The stay was really golden :)

« Nice Breakfast, clean accomodations »

We stayed one night here and the room was clean and adequate. A nice breakfast was served in a restaurant like setting which is unusual, overlooking a marina. We decided not to take chance on the hot tub and pool though it is in a very nice parklike setting as the water was cloudy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for some time. Unusual from our experience at Best Western. The building is showing it's age but if you are looking for an overnight stay you will find the room and breakfast quite adequate for a reasonable price in LA.

    « Excellent!! »

Stopped here on our way to Arizona. Nice location, decent room but what really amazed me was the morning breakfast crew !! ????a high five to the staff! I travel quite a bit and I do take notice of service because it's non existent nowadays !! But this crew never just passed me by! My coffee cup was always full and their service was impeccable!! Kudos to hotel that hired them.

    « Update! »

Was booked by my company and they really need to update. Bed spreads are dates and velour blankets are horrible. Please provide ear plugs for the guests overlooking PCH. The mildew smell in the bathroom was unpleasant and the shower was not mounted well to the wall. The rooms are spacious and the pillows were okay. The breakfast was good. Just know if you stay here it is clean, but in serious need of updating and a deep clean. I guess I must be spoiled.

    « Great stay »

We traveled here with our children before leaving on a cruise. We wanted to see the beaches and relax. The area is close to a grocery store, fast food, restaurants, movie theaters, and the beach! The breakfast was yummy too!

    « Very Nice »

I was in SoCal for a get together with college friends two days ago. The event was very close to the Golden Sails. This, along with favorable reviews on TripAdvisor, resulted in my selection of this property for a one night stay. Things could not have worked out better. I had stayed at Golden Sails on business about a decade ago and thought it was no more than adequate. It is much the same physically, but the staff is more friendly and professionally, the rooms cleaner, and the grounds much more well cared for.

    « Long Beach Trip »

The staff at this hotel will amaze you. They are helpful, organized and best of all, welcoming and friendly. Usually front desk employees tend to be stuffy or even snobby. Not here, you will appreciate how helpful the staff is at this hotel. Perfect stay for us.

    « Awesome customer service!!! »

I attended a birthday celebration in one of the ballrooms at this hotel. I was not only a guest, but I was there to present a dance piece during the evening program. I asked the party host if I could have dinner after the presentation (it's difficult to dance with a full stomach). This meant that I would be having dinner after the dinner hour was over. She checked with the banquet staff and they were more than happy to accommodate my request!! They checked with me to make sure that I not only had dinner, but that it was fresh and hot when I got it! After I received dinner, one of the waiters came and checked to make sure that everything was tasting good...and it was! A big thank you to the banquet manager, the staff and the banquet captain Erick Depaz for taking such great care me!! You all are awesome!

« Best Western Golden Sails Hotel, Long Beach, »

Great experience, great staff, Great room. Only thing bad was not hotel fault but there is oil rigs next to the water making for a not so beautiful scenery but other than that, super great and super price. Very happy with our stay and the hall was amazing. 50 year anniversary party for my friends was best ever.

« Nice property with lovely pool area and great overall location »

Not a fancy hotel, but it is well kept and clean. The pool area is wonderful, and spacious. When I stayed there, a high school volleyball team were also guests. The staff insisted on their good behavior, so it was clear management kept a tight ship, but they were kind and very helpful. The location of the hotel is ideal: close to the cruise ships of Long Beach, near "Surf City" of Huntington Beach and a bit further south and you are in Newport Beach.

    « Cruise »

Great room, pool is heated in the winter so the kids were able to swim. They had transportation to the cruise port and we were able to leave our vehicle safely in there parking lot. Lots of things to do close by

« Close to the airport, close to the beach »

Very nice, but no frills, room was clean, pool area very nice, super kid friendly. Has a nice gym and all the rooms have balconies. The breakfast is next door at the PCH club. 2 king size beds were very comfortable. Room also has a frig and microwave

    « Sleepless in Longbeach »

Terrible hotel, the rooms were updated and dirty. they were sliverfish insect in the bathroom. we were afraid to The traffic was so bad we felt like you were sleeping on the middle of the street. The only thing we like is the location.

    « Surpisingly great! »

We booked for one night as we were in town early for a cruise. It was very reasonable so we weren't expecting much. Our room was huge with a step down to the sleeping area and 2 balconies!! There were 2 couples with us, their rooms weren't quite as decadent but also spacious with a balcony. Complimentary breakfast was amazing! I definitely recommend this hotel.

    « Great Experience »

We stayed at this particular hotel as it was close to the port in Long Beach and we were taking a cruise. We would stay here again whenever we would be in the area as this was a great stay with warm and friendly staff. The breakfast was outstanding and the servers again were the best!

« Affordable, quiet and peaceful area »

Stayed at the Golden Sails Hotel and for the most part, if you are going to Long Beach and need an affordable, not too expensive hotel, this is the place. It's in a very nice location, but the main caveat is that it's next to the PCH Club which brings a lot of people to the location and parking can be hard to find at night. Following morning, we had free breakfast at PCH Club (connected to the hotel). Great view of the marina. Overall, would definitely stay at this hotel again!

« Clean an non expensive »

the place was clean, and the people were nice, located in a quiet area. good place to stay if you do not want to spend too much in a hotel. The hot tub was located in the garden very nice area, the room also had a balcony overlooking the garden. I recommend this place.

« Rude front desk, smokey room »

We stayed one night in early February, 2016. Upon our arrival at approx. noon we were told abruptly by the front desk clerk that no rooms would be available until 2 pm (check in time). Housekeeping was just starting lunch at that time - we were told. To me that meant that no rooms had been cleaned and prepared prior to noon. I asked to leave my cell number and have the desk call me when the first one was available. My offer was turned down because the desk clerk was "too busy". She offered me her card and said to call her - but not before 2 pm. We returned around 1:30 and a room was ready. Other guests had already been assigned their rooms. Once in our room, it reeked of cigarette and cigar smoke. Upon calling the front desk we were told there were no other rooms available. I asked for the manager to call me back. Ten minutes later the front desk called and said a room was now available. We viewed the new room and it reeked too - but of disinfectant and deodorizer. This hotel does have some smoking allowed rooms. Our new room was noticeable smaller, and had only one window, not two, and no balcony (which was in the first room). We decided to stay in this room. We wanted to arrange a shuttle or taxi to the Long Beach cruise port for the morning. Since we hadn't booked the "cruise rate" since we were not leaving a car parked at the hotel, we were told they could not assist us with a shuttle. This answer changed moments later to a $30 taxi ride that they could arrange. In reality, we asked the shuttle driver in the morning and he agreed to take us for a rate far below $30. The face of the hotel that faces the roadway is all wall. It doesn't present well at all. Windows face the interior courtyard and pool. Pool looked nice. The breakfast is about the only thing I can say positive comments about. It is in the attached PCH center and was nicely done. If you get a room with a window that faces away from the courtyard and the roadway - don't expect any lovely views of southern California. You view ugly rooftops, a parking lot and a neighbouring industrial area behind a small harbour area. I am a Diamond member at Best Western and have never experienced such an unfriendly, unprofessional response at a front desk. Would I stay here again. Not a chance!

« Spacious clean and comfortabel »

Very nice business hotel with nice grounds, good location. On site restaurant and lounge. Salsa lessons and dancing on Monday and Thursday but quite in the room. I would absolutely stay there again. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly, quick check in and out.

    « Good Value »

This hotel was a great value. The room was larger than most with a nice balcony. They have a great breakfast buffet that is included with the room. The staff was very professional and helpful. The only downside was the bathroom was a bit tired looking and in slight disrepair.

« Dated property and they need to improve the customer experience regarding the vouchers for breakfast »

This property is in a dire need of a makeover from the lobby, the entertainment/restaurant area adjacent to the lobby, to the rooms itself. It is step back into the 90s. I was not happy on how I was treated with the voucher process; you need a voucher for every person in your party for your complimentary breakfast in the adjacent restaurant. I think if the restaurant had a list of the guests in the hotel, they could check off which room # is showing up and validate their name. Overall decent location on the PCH highway across the street from a Ralphs, movie theatre and Barnes and Noble.

    « Better than expected »

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this place. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was basic but comfortable and, most importantly, very clean. The breakfast was very good. Lots of things to choose from including a waffle station and fresh fruit.I was a little worried about highway noise because of its location on PCH but we had no issues especially when we turned on the room heater. It warmed things up and drowned out the highway. We did not use any amenities as we were visiting our daughter close by. Room service did a great job every day. We saw workers cleaning the grounds every morning. Very good stay for not a hefty price tag. Would stay there again when visiting Long Beach.

« Cold, Colder and Coldest »

Cold fits everything, the lobby, the room and the food. This was one of my worst experiences staying at a BW Hotel. The bed was like a rock, hard and bumpy. There was a step in the middle of the room that had to be negotiated going and coming from the bathroom It was concerning for seniors. It is a very old hotel and looks it. The folks behind the counter when we checked in were too cold to move. They were bundled in clothing in a vain attempt to stay warm. The trip to breakfast was out of doors. The trip was cold as was the food. I can not think of a good thing to say about this place.

    « Better Than Described »

This hotel has a terrific restaurant and a fine breakfast as well. The food is better than you would expect for American fare. The price is more than reasonable for location, amenities, food and service. We will be returning, as always. Thanks again for the positive experience.

    « Great Park & Cruise Package »

Stayed here with my wife and son the day before our cruise and booked their ?Park n' Cruise Package? The breakfast buffet was very good. It was real breakfast served at the hotel restaurant not just continental breakfast like other hotels have that includes with your room. There are very nice restaurants across the street within walking distance. The hotel restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner with full menu and is overlooking the marina which was nice. You cannot beat this price for a comfortable room, good breakfast, safe parking on site and transportation to and from the ship. It is worth every bit to have a day of stress free driving eating a healthy breakfast. Also, Hotel was adequately clean and front desk service was polite and efficient. Would definitely stay and park here again if we went out of Long Beach Terminal.

    « Never again! »

Where to start... My husband and I stayed here one night to take advantage of the park and sail package for our cruise out of Long Beach. The regular rack rate room was around $100/night, but the package was $160. We decided since we have to stay somewhere the night before anyway, why pay an additional $100 for parking at the cruise terminal when we can park here (essentially saving $40) and get a free shuttle provided by the hotel. We checked in and the room was dated, which doesn't bother me too much, it's a place to sleep. The carpet was filthy though. I didn't take my shoes off until I went to bed. Also, the room layout was beyond weird. The tub/shower was in the middle of the room, not in the bathroom area. And no, it wasn't a jacuzzi suite. Just a run of the mill room. I couldn't imagine staying here with someone that wasn't my husband as there is no privacy when you shower!! When we got up in the morning the surprise came when there was NO HOT WATER!!! We mentioned this to the front desk on check out and all we got was "Oh". Nothing else. Parking was good for the cruise. The shuttle is actually a taxi that they pick up the cost for. The front desk staff also forgot to call a cab for us as our shuttle request was "lost" somewhere in between when we checked in and 8 hours later when we needed our ride. Wasn't a big deal as we waited in the lobby and since we were the only ones there when the first cab arrived we just took that one. Neighborhood felt fairly safe to leave the car in. My only concern was an attached bar and conference venue to the hotel. We left our car Monday through Friday. Not sure how busy they get if you'd leave it there over a weekend. But personally next time, I'd stay at a hotel that isn't so poorly kept and managed and just pay extra to park!! Be warned!!

« Good price for a good hotel »

I travel and stay in many different hotels, I like breakfast overlooking the water while eating breakfast, nice room, I had a room in the back with no street noise. I would stay here again, clean room and good service

« Unhappy with our stay »

The hotel is in desperate need of a redo. We met a resident of Long Beach at a nearby restaurant. She asked where we were staying, when I told her Golden Sails, she replied,"oh, my there are much nicer places than that hotel around here". Needless to say I was embarassed!!!!

    « Great staff »

I was greeted with a friendly smile and staff was always ready and available to answer my questions and to be of service. The breakfast staff were excellent. The free breakfast in the restaurant was excellent and the room has a large window that overlooks the marina. It was a very relaxing atmosphere. This made it an excellent value for the money.

    « Convenient location. »

My husband and i travel frequently and have stayed at various Best Western Hotels. This particular one was ok. The location is convenient. The room was huge. But overall it was just old and needs upgrades like some others we have stayed in. The breakfast was served at an actual restaurant next door with a view of marina. The food was deliciou, the view was pretty and the servers were very nice. the hotel staff, other than the housekeepers, were not very friendly or warm. Just took care of the business and talked to each other. They made us feel not want to come back.

« Sone serious flaw here »

First, this is not in what I would call Belmont Shores. It is several miles away on Pacific Coast Highway. No local shuttle service. I had to rent a car. The traffic on Pacific Coast Highway, particularly in the early morning hours, is really heavy. Rooms are insufficiently noise insulated to absorb the noise. The front desk staff is not cordial. Service needs some help. The rooms are pleasant enough. Furnishings, particularly colors, are dated. The hotel is a bit cheaper than downtown Long Beach, but I would pay the difference for the convenience. My 3 rating is very charitable in my opinion.

    5
    « Very nice hotel »

This is an older hotel but it has been very well maintained. The grounds are well kept and clean. The room had all the necessary amenities. Would definitely recommend it, very good location too. We would stay there again without hesitation. The breakfast buffet was very good, nice selection and kept filled to the brim.

    5
« Excellent Value and Location »

Great location and nice area. The room was clean and comfortable. Staff was helpful and friendly. Parking was easy, well lit, and felt very safe. It was a great value for the price. I found this place after an exhaustive search, reading numerous reviews of other places and rejecting all of them. I would definitely recommend it and would stay here again if ever I return to the area. I am very happy with a very pleasant stay that was very reasonably priced. Easy to get to the freeway and connecting interstates or to drive up the Pacific Coast Hwy to get to museums and other tourist attractions.

    « Nice place for a get-together »

Had family from out-of-state visit for a week and needed a place for them to stay;but not too far from home and with things around to see&do. This was perfect.Located next to Marina Pacifica in Long Beach; there were boats to watch, sea air to run in,close-by bars&restaurants;and of course the usual SoCal tourist locations.

« Older but nice experience »

The hotel is dated but the whole place was clean and the room we had was very large and comfortable. Front desk lady was very helpful and pleasant. The staff are genuinely pleasant, they spoke to us each time we passed through the lobby and we felt very at home. Beds were just right and bathroom vanity had good lighting. Showers were good pressure and very clean. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and came with our room. The waiters were very attentive and refilled our delicious coffee several times. I would definitely return if the occasion presents itself. Was a lovely experience all around.

« Best Western Long Beach »

This place looks better from the inside. It's worth it, specially if you book online. The staff is dedicated. The restaurant has great view of the marina. There are good shops near by; grocery, mall type places and easy access to major highways / local routes

    5
    « excellent stay »

Golden Sails was in a great location on PCH since we were visiting family in Long Beach. The grounds were well kept; the pool was a nice area to relax. The delicious breakfast foods were served in the banquet room which overlooked the marina. The entire staff was helpful and friendly. We had a spacious room with a king size bed which was very comfortable. We had no complaints and would stay there again.

I have stayed at this hotel twice, and loved it both times. Very clean, both outside and inside the rooms. Beautiful pool area and separate spa area. Fitness center with nice equipment. Rooms have balconies...some with views of the pool. Close to shopping and freeways. Great value for the price!

    5
    « Park and Cruise »

I have stayed at several park and cruise hotels, but this has been the best. Room was large and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Transportation to and from port was effortless. I will definitely stay here the next time I go on a cruise from Long Beach.

« A decent 3* level hotel, but earplugs (or zoning out) are required »

Pros: Big room, two sinks, well furnished, very good breakfast Cons: Constant (but variable) road noise, small selection of TV channels, minor room imperfections If you're the kind of person who is bothered by a bit of plaster coming off the wall in the shower, or a smudge of dirt on a floor mat, then this may not be the place for you. If you appreciate a lot of space, and a much better than average breakfast, then consider staying here. Just be sure to bring excellent ear plugs, or an ability to ?zone out? road noise. Our room was in the 4-floor building, on the 4th floor. Upon walking in the room, I was certain that the window had been left open, due to the volume of the road noise. Until I checked and opened the sliding patio door, and the volume doubled (at least). It becomes less busy at night, but there are always cars, and always noise, regardless of the time. I suggest requesting a room facing away from PCH (which we did when we made our reservation, but that didn't help, so good luck). The view was ok, but I'd trade it for a quiet room in a second. Our room had a large desk with one nice office chair, a large couch, a king bed, and an empty area large enough to fit another king bed. There was also a TV on top of a chest of drawers. There were only two or three dozen channels, with many of the more popular channels missing (including my personal favorite, HGTV). There was also a mini fridge and small microwave, two luggage racks, and a large closet area for hanging clothes. There's one sink outside the bathroom, and another sink inside the bathroom, which can be very convenient if you're traveling with someone. The shower had a few minor issues, including a 6? square area of wall that needs repair, and a gooseneck arm that wobbles when touched. I couldn't care less about these kind of things, and instead appreciate the upgraded amenities of a 3* hotel vs a 2* motel, such as thicker towels, real glass cups, and very good (Lava brand like) hand soap. Breakfast was very good, served buffet style in a separate building. The wait staff were very accommodating and pleasant. I won't go into the details of the food, as that's well covered elsewhere. The selection isn't the best I've seen, but it's well above the average of most places.

    4
    « Pleasant Hotel »

We stayed at the Best Western Golden Sails because it was close to the Aquarium of the Pacific. It was a pleasant experience. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The complimentary breakfast was a nice touch. My wife and I would definitely stay there again.

    4
    « Very nice Hotel »

It was quiet and a big room. Right off a main highway where it was easy to go to downtown Long Beach. Just north was a nice shopping center with a grocery store and a Nordstrom Rack. Lots of flowers and the pool looked great but we didn't use it.

    1
« DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE. »

This facility is far less than the Best Western reputation. The front desk personnel were rude and very slow. The temperature throughout the hotel, ie. lobby, halls, rooms was extremely hot and uncomfortable. Found lots of roaches in the room. I would they would have given us the night free, but only gave us $25 credit. Will never stay at this hotel eve again. The price really exceeds the quality of this facility.

« Best deal ever that includes parking for cruise (Long Beach) »

« Sleep, eat, park and transported to and from your cruise ship »

You can not beat this price for a comfortable room, good breakfast , safe parking on site and transportation to and from the ship. It is worth every bit to have a day of stress free driving eating a healthy breakfast and parking your vehicle for only about $30 more than parking for seven days at the terminal.

    5
« Stay, Park, Eat and Cruise »

If you want the best deal, and I have tried most of them use this one. Why pay over $100 to park for a 6 or 7 day cruise, when for less than$165 you can have a comfortable room, eat a very good breakfast, park your vehicle where it is safe and be taken to and from the ship. It's not worth the rush and being tired before your vacation. For that extra $65, relax be stress free and have a great trip.

    4
    « Location »

It seems Best Western just knows it depends on location whether your stay will begin on a happy note. Golden Sails is set in a prime location. Walking distance to great restaurants, Joes crab shack,California pizza or Lucille smokehouse to a last minute run to the store, Ralphs or Trader Joes. A movie theater nearby and a beautiful beach in Belmont Shores one could call this paradise or home.

    2
    « Disappointing »

Its a big place, and the service is "so, so". Staff was too busy to be helpful. The shower was broken and we were unable to get all the water to go through the shower head, more than half went down into the bathtub spout, which was very disappointing after a day that hit 100' f. The internet connection is so slow that the pages didn't load, so if you plan on doing any business during your stay, don't stay here. If you plan on doing any streaming, forget it. It took so long just to load my email page that the load kept failing. Finally, after 11:00 pm, I was able to take care of a few things. I am very unsatisfied. When I asked the front desk for help with the internet, he said, "are you connected? Then there's nothing I can do." I assume there are just too many rooms and people trying to use a slow connection at the same time.

    4
« The toilet is too small »

Good location, room was clean an had a nice view, with balcony. Room service was very good. The toilet seat was too small, almost like a grade school toilet. That would be my main complaint. The lobby was not air conditioned either.
