Stayed at this hotel once every year since 2009 bar covid last stayed Aug 21, no mention of the hotel closing for refurb, tried to book since then Booking.com constantly saying my dates not available. Appalling cuatomer service to loyal customers contacted Best Western they cannot even tell me when hotel will re-open. Always enjoyed our stay but since found an alternative hotel, Queens loss!
Upon arriving, building work was going on in parts of the hotel so parking was virtually none existent but after driving in and out of the car park we found a space. We the paid £5 to park and the was asked for id at reception which would be scanned and kept by the hotel. I asked why the need for id when my firm had paid for the room the reply was it's a police initiative thing in the area. I asked what type of id they required they said passport or credit card. I totally refused to hand these details over to a stranger to be scanned and kept by the hotel. There reply was if you don't you can't have your room even though it's already paid for, so after arguing about it the manager was called. The manager was quite calm and explained it was the hotels policy to have the I'd and only needed a picture and name of you but they will scan it so be warned. After agreeing to hand over my cscs card with only a photo and name on it otherwise no room we where given our key too the room. If you like mazes then you will love getting to your room as it's like a Warren. Once inside the room it's dark with a small window. The bed was missing a leg so was lopsided. The furniture looks like second hand out of a flat pack. It really feels like a glorified hostel and there is no free WiFi. One nights stay here is enough.
We stayed one night in this hotel to attend a funeral in the immediate area. It didn't look as grim as the photos, the area wasn't as rough as I feared and, as other reviewers have said, all the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the shower was good. The morning breakfast box was fine - better quality and presentation than I expected and an effort at making the packaging recyclable. Main negative: cleaning cloths left in the room next to the bed (but at least it was clean!). Thin curtains and tired, worn furniture in room. Terrible, public toilet standard toiletries (we had our own). Plus points: helpful staff, decent water pressure, nice, hot, reliable shower. Clean.
Be warned don't stay here place is not worth the money. Rooms are tired and dirty. Staff not at all helpful. £5 overnight car parking is a scam, if there are no spaces or you don't want to stay you only get a few minutes to book and get out if you're not quick enough you get a £100 fine through the post weeks later (£60 if paid immediately). Stay at your peril, even the Travelodge is better.
This is the cheapest hotel I could find in reasonable driving distance of London. It is tired, has been renovated for over four years now (we've been there many times), finding rooms is a maze, the courtyard rooms in the basement are very small and no outside windows, the restaurant is poor as is breakfast. All that said I don't care about any of it. There are so many moaning minnies on here complaining. All you do is sleep in the room for God's sake! The fun is when you go out. If the sheets are clean and there's running water, who gives a toss. The staff have always been really nice. You can park in the street. You can drive and park next to the National Theatre for free in about 20 minutes. No need to pay £15 each on the underground. What more do you want. Sure, go ahead and pay 3 times as much to stay at a posh hotel, all you'll get is the same nights sleep as me and you'll pay a fortune to park your cars. Go ahead, leave me this place.
Sick all over the place going up the stairs rooms smelt awful sick all down our walls was really mouldy and damp asked to be changed rooms got put into a room in the basement without window just a photo of the London eye and curtains?!?!?! Asked for a refund could only get half and I think we was lucky getting that! Do not stay here, I got awful photos but behind the curtain was sick all up the walls and down the curtain as well
Stayed here at the end of July. The hotel is best described as tired. Works were underway to freshen it up. Restaurant - we avoided & went elsewhere. CAR PARKING - beware!!! You can't pay for parking at the hotel desk. You have to do this via phone - number or app. I tried both (app & dialing the number). Firstly tried using my works mobile - (Vodafone) didn't work - tried using my own phone (O2). Eventually it did work. Happy days so i though. Two months later I now receive a parking fine of £100 - £60 if paid immediately. IT WAS PAID ON THE DAY!!!!!!!!!! Now to evidence it & fight this false charge!!!!
Do not stay here! They lied to the entire hotel and kicked us out to accommodate asylum seekers. They treated them like cattle with security. The room was fine but not worth the price & the craziness!
This hotel has renovations going on. Restaurant (if can call it this) had x4 options of main. I'm suspect it was microwave meals. they were ok, but not for the money paid. I pre-paid for breakfast which turned out to be a brown bag with sandwich, apple and OJ?! Really poor.
Had this booked with friends for months! To attend a festival near by, turned up to find out the hotel had been forced to shut the day before!! We had not been informed until about a hour before by booking.com! When speaking with them the hotel had only decided to let them know!!!! Leaving myself and 6 others friends stuck in london. Ridiculous… after reading the other reviews it seems like it's a relief they were shut! From what I seen the place looked like it was going to fall down and the staff are really rude!!!! Don't let pictures and prices fool you!
Room was okay but just okay. Shower room had an odour and door handle was loose. Considering how much I paid for the room I was expecting far better quality. The layout of the whole place was weird also.
Thought this was going to be a lovely stay but the photos are only of the rooms above ground. I originally got put in a room on floor -2. Took me 10 min to find as it is a maze down there! Finally found my room but it had no windows (biggest hazard), stank of cigarette smoke, and the light wasn't working. Went back upstairs and was luckily given a new room on the first floor which was more like the pictures I'd seen. Glad I was only staying one night, would not recommend..
The state of the hotel was appalling and this Best Western hotel now indicates to me that Best Western is now a brand so compromised that I am planning to revoke my membership of their rewards scheme as I may never step foot in a Best Western hotel again. Completely compromised it's reputation
Stayed at the hotel for one night and paid £10 for parking Later received a £100 fine from a company called civil enforcement stating I hadn't paid my parking within 15 minutes. On arrival the hotel reception informed me that I needed to pay before I checked out. This is a complete scam and I'm sure the hotel must work in conjunction with the enforement company to fleece residents. Hotel did not want to help in any way when I contacted them re this issue. No doubt they are receive a percentage of any fines generated. Just to add salt to the wounds the hotel was awful as well. It was dirty and smelt! Do not stay at this toilet.
Our room stunk to high heaven of dreadful toilet smells - more like a cesspit. My wife was gagging so we went back to reception to change the room. Very poor customer service - in fact one of the reception staff called me over when he had found an alternative room by waving his hand like you would to a dog or a child! The air con couldn't be switched off so we were freezing, the bathroom only had luke warm water, the TV didn't work at all & neither did the room telephone. I complained & the offered 50% off for a future booking!!! I complained to Best western CEO and the response was one of we only Franchise the hotels so not our problem!!! My advice is NEVEWR EVER stay here & don't bother with any other Best Western hotels either as they don't care about customer service.
I can't even call this a hotel, it's worse than a hostel. Disgusting place, felt like a prison. Worst staff of all time, rude and disrespectful. As shown in the photos below the place is vile. We arrived at our room and before we'd even got to the room we'd already decided to find somewhere else to stay. Booked another hotel and cancelled yet no refund was issued. The ‘double room' we had booked was tiny, the bathroom door wouldn't close because the bed was in the way and there was black marks all over the bed. DO NOT BOOK! The pictures provided are total opposite - real photos below!! I would have preferred to stay in the hotel the inbetweeners had in Greece!!!!
Upon arrival, we had to wait 90 minutes to receive service regarding our room which was not yet ready. Everybody else seemed to be served and we were left waiting - after this time we were told the room we'd booked was not available and we were given a different one. The hotel itself was clean and the staff were friendly, albeit unhelpful. My main issue came after leaving something personal in the room. After my first call not being answered, the second was most unhelpful. It had been only 5 hours since leaving and after enquiring about my missing item they replied that they didn't know where it was, however it must have been in the room as I did not have it. They failed to provide clarity. After emailing the Best Western helpline I was told that I would receive a call regarding my lost item, they left a voicemail and when I rang back the response was ‘what do you want?' This is incredibly unprofessional and over a week later I still have no clarity regarding the issue.
Disappointed not to have been offered a cooked breakfast as, due to Covid, a grab and go breakfast was offered instead. Although the contents were quite substantial, it was mainly carbs and sugar. 4 mini Pastries, a sandwich, apple, orange juice, and yoghurt.
For the amount of money paid we were very disappointed! The hotel itself is in poor condition, getting to our room was a trek! Once inside room was tiny, wallpaper peeling off, poor paintwork, curtains coming off their track, phone not in use, room safe was broken and the mattress was disgusting! We were promised a cooked breakfast however kitchen was not open. Guests had to collect their continental breakfast in a box! The only good thing was the number of places to eat near the hotel.
Mushrooms growing on the wall, they are HUGE so they must have been there for a fair while! Especially with Covid you would think cleaning would be priority. The room STUNK of weed, with window for ventilation. If I was you I would stay well away.
One of the worst places I've ever stayed- booked for me by work. I knew from the second I walked in it'd be awful. Old notices stuck all over the walls of reception and just generally dirty, it got worse from there. The first room I checked into was filthy, cramped and stank. It had a used/unflushed toilet, contact lenses on the bathroom sink, hair all over the beds and half an eaten takeaway left in the fridge. The whole place smells like a hamster cage but that room smelt particularly strong. I complained and moved rooms, (I actually wanted to leave) the new room was cleaner but I had to chase getting a mug a teaspoon and towels... I was eventually given a hand towel and a plastic spoon. I went and bought my own coffee etc as my room didn't have a tea tray like the others and on asking I was told "nothing is available". I then needed an iron... Irons are apparently 'subject to availability' which would be fine but a hotel this size has 2 irons and don't keep track of where they go. I asked reception a few times and was told "we'll get it and bring it to you" this didn't happen, despite me going to the desk and calling. The staff are awful and it's apparent customer service/satisfaction isn't high on their list of priorities. I had to wait for the woman on reception to finish her conversation with her colleague before checking me in. The outside of the building is full of litter and covered in scaffolding, which is actually the nicest part of the entire place. The 3 star rating is incredibly generous, it's basically just a big hostel. Even if you want cheap and cheerful, go somewhere else. This place is rank.
This hotel should be avoided at all cost. It has no disabled person access or senior person assistance. Lifts not operating “packed lunches” served as breakfast though the room information letter says hot or cold breakfast available. Lounge area no hot drink service. The decor in our room was abysmal paint flaking off, bathroom a hazard area, shower curtain too long and a trip hazard, no shower grab rail, the list is endless
This hotel is in a great location if you need access to this part of London. Previously, I stayed in the SE20 Travel Lodge; thought I'd give this a go, instead. At the cheaper end, this is perfectly good: clean and well-maintained. There is currently construction going on, so scaffolding covers the buildings pleasant exterior. Inside, it could do with a bit of updating: with untidy stairwells and a labyrinthine layout. Some of this can't perhaps be helped as it is an old building, adapted to modern requirements. The great French writer, Emile Zola, stayed here a couple of years. A quote - framed on the wall of my room - attests to this, although a glaring typo ('photograhed') seems to have gone unnoticed. The website tells you that guest-parking is available. It doesn't tell you that it is £3 per hour (£10 per 24-hour period). Of course, the parking is hived off to one of those private companies so you can't just add it to the bill, you must book your parking through a third party - unacceptable! I should add that I parked in a nearby street for free. Also, parking is free for guests at the Travel Lodge (though some would argue it is priced into the room rate). I would advise anyone staying to avoid single rooms. The room was tiny and the gap between the wall and the bed could not be 'walked' - one must shuffle along the gap as if enacting one of those spy-thriller movie scenes where the protagonist must escape through a window and negotiate a narrow parapet to evade groups of thugs intending ill-will. Fortunately, at this hotel, no such gangs are present, however, special-forces training would come in handy to effect access to the bed. I didn't partake of any food or room service. Crystal Palace (upper Norwood) is a decent area for eating and drinking so, plenty of choice. During my 3-night stay, I didn't receive any room service. Now, I might have left the room after room services 'pass', but I do think they should recheck rooms, especially when the guest has hung the 'Please Service' sign on the door. As the shower door of the generally well-appointed bathroom didn't close properly, I had to use one of the towels to soak up escaping water. In the end, I had to ask at reception for a fresh towel (which was promptly provided). The answer: fix the shower door.
Person on reception was pleasant and helpful. The room smells of drains and was so small that the bed was only 6ft LONG (feet dangled all night). I complained and was moved to a quite nice room BUT the room was not serviced while I was there. No clean towels no top up of tea coffee or milk and the room was not cleaned at all
Stayed here for one night. We went to a gig in the area. Great location as about 20 minutes walk from crystal palace park. Receptionist was pleasant and helpful. We had a room in level -1. It was like walking through a dungeon. The room had 3 single beds and was very cramped. Still for the money it was very good value. The main issue was the smell. It stunk. Was a mixture of sewers, damp, and the extremely strong smell of weed. It smelt like somone was smoking it in their room. It smelt like it in the hallways and just as bad in our room. Pretty gross. We paid £42 for the night which is a really good price for London. But seriously. Sort out the smell!
I had reservations against staying here after some of the other reviews I'd read, however as we were attending the south facing festival at the crystal palace bowl this hotel was very conveniently located and well priced. Yes it is tired looking and there were some dodgy characters in reception when we first arrived , however the room was clean and quiet. We had breakfast included with our booking which transpired was only a continental style breakfast bag you had to collect from reception but there was a fair selection of food in there. If we had reason to be in this area again we'd happily stay here. For the price we paid per night it was very good value for a hotel in outer London.
Hotel is nice but the room window could not be opened. They build a type of window that can't be opened. It is so stupid! There is no fresh air. Different people staying every night, with or without COVID?!? When you come in the room and want to open the window for fresh air, you will be shocked! It is not possible! There is an a/c but it gives a different odor to the room. I tried all functions, including heat, fan, cool,... Although everything else is fine, the window issue is a huge problem for me and l would not stay there again!
This is the worst experience I and my family have gone through. Horrible, Disgusting smell. Untidy, very noisy and some very rude staffs. Avoid staying here because you will regret it. Not safe for kids. No housekeeping, my husband and I were told to tidy up ourselves.
Easy check in and out, had an issue with the room but was sorted quickly no fuss. Not experienced breakfast as its cold grab bag. I have not grabbed one as they dont sound very appealing. Overall not a bad stay.
hotel, good value, comfortable bed, well managed, good repair, good size bathroom and shower, clean. Safe, night time security at entrance, free parking close by on residential streets, close to shops and nice restaurants, walking distance, recommended for short stay if visiting London
Looks: Redecorated on the cheap by a time traveller from the past. Sounds: A man burping outside my window and constantly slamming van doors. Tastes: I did not eat here. Smells: Sewage. The whole ground floor smells of sewage. I didn't go on any other floors. Maybe other floors don't smell of sewage, but the ground floor smells of sewage. Sewage. A hotel that smells of sewage. And sometime fart. Feels: Like the mattress is stuffed with human bones.
Only booked due to location. We were in a basement room. It looks and smells bad. There must be prisons better than this hotel. Breakfast was included with room but we didn't risk it. This is the worst hotel I have ever seen.
The perfect family room for a short stay in London. Such helpful reception staff when children needed pizza in the evening. Such soft beds and large room with great wifi to keep everyone happy. Would definitely be staying again for value for money. Grab and go breakfast was so big it kept us going well into the day :) thank you so much
I booked this hotel because it was close to where I needed to be in London. I have stayed at best western hotels before so thought it would a good hotel. How wrong I was. Staff not wearing face masks, despite poster being up saying it was mandatory, one staff member even got in the lift with me without his mask on. Noise is terrible. Kids running up and down corridor and lots of screaming and shouting. Room is basic, no mirror up to do make up, only a full length by door with not good lighting near it. If I could gave afforded it I would have check out and find somewhere else...not worth £99 I paid. AVOID HOTEL at all cost
Stayed here just for one night as visiting friends. When we arrived we noticed signs about paying to park. We enquired at reception and was told they no longer owned the land outside and a private company owned it. Parking was £10 for 24 hours. If I had more time I would have looked for a space on the adjoining roads. The hotel did not feel very welcoming. To get to our room, 004, we had to walk through restaurant, which was empty but had loads of dirty dishes left on the tables which hadn't been cleared away, and down some stairs. We seemed to have all the air conditioning units outside our window which hummed all night. It rained all night and the guttering must have been faulty as it sounded like a waterfall. When the rain did stop then there was the sound of dripping, from a great height. All in all we did not enjoy our stay and was very tired from not getting a good nights sleep.
We booked this hotel for a wedding close by. We nearly cancelled it after reading the reviews however for the price there was nothing close so decided we only need somewhere to sleep so kept the booking. Our room was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. The air con was one of the best in any hotel I've been to. If you are looking for 5 star then obviously not going to be anywhere close but I do wonder what people expect for a London hotel which has very low rates. It suited us for the two nights we were there.
The hotel we booked showed up nice on the website but when we arrived it was rubbish and we went for a friend's birthday weekend the room that was given was in the basement and was disgusting the carpet was dirty he room looked prison cell and it didn't have the nicest smell either we didn't even stay 15mins and cancelled the booking they refused to give our refund even tho it was false advised the person at the front desk I think his name was Zohaib was not helpful at all he was so rude was such a big let down would not recommend this hotel to anyone it's was of money and time if I could rate them I would less than 1 start I would.
I had to crawl up the single bed from the bottom to reach the pillows. there was no access either side of the 3ft single bed. The television did not work. The shower room was OK being about the same size as the bedroom
Absolutely appalling treatment of Best Western. Booked pre covid for spring break festival. Admit we booked non refundable to make trip cheaper but had no knowledge of impending pandemic. Many other hotels refunded without excuse. Best Western still refusing to refund. Have extended voucher but only when i have made contact. As we are still not advised to travel I don't see any way of recouping this considerable amount of money. Would never recommend this chain.
The smell of weed down the corridors is terrible on level 1,2 and 3. Very dirty. Room stinks. Kettle is disgusting so could not have a drink as a simple expectation (was not brave enough). Bathroom smells of mould. Just overall Dirty and very smelly. Will never stay with a best western again if this is their standards allowed as a brand, and reading more reviews on here im not the only one with this view or an experience like this. Mgt seriously need looking at here.
The hotel is very dirty. Filthy in the hall ways, the stairs and the room. Also needs a lot of maintenence. Rude staff - how the receptionist has a job ill never know. Really bad experience all round.
Im a key worker and have to stay in this hotel. Ive just realised and been informed off security that this hotel is is a holding place for immigration. Having payed for my room and parking on site i feel this is seriously shocking that i was not informed of this on my arrival. The staff and security onsite are very tight lipped and at best ignorant to my needs as a paying customer. Who knows what clientel the government have placed in the rooms adjacent to me. Absolutely disgusting from what is considered to be a reputable hotel chain.
Cancelled my flexible booking directly at reception the day before, outside their cancellation policy and even so, the hotel charged me in full and refusing a refund! I find it disgraceful that right a the middle of a pandemic the hotel is treating people in such manner when all hotels in UK are being flexible with their cancellation policies considering the pandemic and having empathy with their customers. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone just because their lack of ethos and morals when handling rightfully entitled refunds, it shows their very poor level of customer service.
As a key worker I understand the importance of everything we as a country are doing around Corona. I have so a 12 hour shift and booked a room so I could get some rest ready for work next, Instead I am greeted with rudeness and a lack of respect all because I didn't have a bill on me to prove that I lived where I said I did, who carries bills around with them!! I provided My key worker letter from the government and my work ID??? If I could give a zero rating I would! Secondly It is not nice to stay in a place with a constant smell of weed!! That was giving me a headache, it is illegal to smoke on the property and yet this is the 3rd stay where I can smell it, not to mention the load arguments coming from said weed room all night Poorly run, bad customer serves and illegal
If I could leave a no star review I would because this hotel is absolutely shambolic. I have stayed here on only one occasion with a group of people. The staff were horribly rude, the receptionist refused to acknowledge our request. The security used profanity language on us which left me in disbelieve. Please do not stay at this hotel.
Room was adequate and suited us well travelling with family - good to get double and two single beds in a family room. Everything about the stay was basic, from minimal interaction from staff at check-in, to the decor and facilities. Trip was very cheap and included breakfast in a bag as restaurant shut due to covid. Not much to complain about, a little traffic noise as room was at front and sounded like room above had a heard of elephants with them over night!
On arrival at the room (via dark corridors) we found the door was wedged open with a screwdriver - someone was testing the air con. They then left which meant the room hadn't been COVID cleaned since their visit. There were dirty marks on the wall and headboard and an unknown liquid substance on the bedside table! This “deluxe family room” has a single bed in addition to the double bed which made extremely cramped. We immediately left and will be making a formal complaint / request a full redund
I've stayed in a lot of hotels over the years and worked in several so I have a fairly good idea of what I want from somewhere. We just stayed here for a full week so got a pretty good measure of the place. Our room - 503 - was compact but comfortable, with a large bed and decent storage. The air con was a Godsend and the smart TV with (mostly) excellent Wifi connection a bonus considering the star rating/price. The bathroom was a decent space with a powerful, hot shower. The location is good, with a plethora of shops and restaurants etc literally around the corner and Crystal Palace Parade (with its excellent transport links) a short walk away. London being London it's no problem to get takeaways fairly swiftly and taxis are the same. Unfortunately various little things let it down. Our bathroom shower gel and tissues ran out within the first couple of days and were never replenished. The shower door was very temperamental and kept coming off its runners. Our TV lost its internet connection a few times and despite reporting this to reception nobody bothered to take a look or let us know how to sort it. One day we left the room late morning, literally made eye contact with housekeeping staff and said hello to them in the corridor directly outside our room while blatantly turning our door card to say "please make up our room" yet our room was not serviced. Checking out the receptionist barely looked up from the computer, didn't bother to ask how our stay was and couldn't have been less interested in us. It's not a bad hotel and to an extent you get what you pay for, but a little more attention to detail by staff would make a world of difference.
I stayed in this Hotel with my Family. Before I arrived I mentioned I needed a travel cot placed in my room. They did, however my 8 month old had a terrible night's sleep and she is normally a great sleeper. It wasn't until the second night, I noticed the duvet they placed in the cot was in there to compensate for not having the cot base. Once I lent on the duvet my hand touched the floor and the cross bars would dig into anything that was placed in there. When I mentioned this to the receptionist HE KNEW! and didn't mention it before I put my baby in it.... shocking. If he had told me I would have brought my own! Be aware this hotel only has 1 travel cot with no base! Sorry the hotel isn't bad but there's no excuse for that!
I am currently here as I write on day four of my stay. I am quite surprised by some of the other reviews because I have not witnessed any of the problems stated. I booked a single room at a very low price compared to the local competition. My expectations were not high due to the price. I am here to visit family nearby and just wanted a place to lay my head. However, it has exceeded my expectations and represents great value for money. I was upgraded to a spacious double room at no extra cost. It is on the third floor, easily accessible via a fully functional lift, with large clean windows that partially but sufficiently open and quality well fitted curtains. I have a large screen tv with free access to Netflix and BBC I player which is a great free bonus. The wifi signal is consistently strong also. The decor is fresh the bedding and bathroom is clean and fully functional with in built hairdryer and shaver point. The shower is walk in with lots of space. The towels are spotlessly white and fluffy. Due to Covid restrictions there are no restaurant services and only a £5.00 takeaway breakfast available which I haven't tried so cannot comment on. I have found reception friendly and informative. I do not have a car with me but my son visits me here, picks me up and drops me off. Reception noted his car registration and waived any charges for him using the car park during my stay. This was not requested by us and we were prepared to pay but the lovely guy booking me in insisted on waiving the charge. I am on my last night before my visit is over and unless something drastic happens between now and tomorrow morning then they get 100% of my vote and I will be rebooking for a family wedding next month.
I never write reviews but this hotel is so terrible I thought I would.. £10 to park per day .. slow very rude customer service at the desk I had just finished a shift as a key worker and had to send emails here and there just to prove I was a key worker. As for the room very tacky and stuffy.. honestly the worst hotel I've ever stayed at.
Good location, short walking distance to all main transports, coffee shops, takeaways and restaurants. Rooms clean, friendly staff. Restaurant with a wide variety of food, freshly made pizza, small bar and breakfast, all set in a beautiful environment to relax and enjoy your stay. Thanks to the team for a great and pleasant stay!
Best Western will not allow us a refund for our stay, which was booked for a wedding that has subsequently had to be cancelled. They have offered to rearrange the day, which is of no use since the wedding cannot be rearranged any time in the near future. This is in complete contrast to another hotel chain we have dealt with recently who instantly offered to refund our stay, despite having a non flexible booking. Will not be using Best Western again after this poor customer service.
The hotel would not entertain a refund for our trip booked and paid for prior to the covid-19 outbreak. Encouraged travel during lockdown as they remain open. Irresponsible and terrible customer service. Avoid!
Had a 3 night stay here and was very impressed. The room had everything that you would need( hairdryer, tea/ coffee facilities etc) and was spotlessly clean. In fact, the whole hotel was very clean. The staff that we came across were friendly and helpful. I will certainly return to this hotel in the future.
Trying to have an early check in, the rudest ever service, even agressive, first stating that not roon was available and after askig for an early check in to pay more than the nigth tarif of the room. Not only been rude and unpolie, he left a note in my booking against giving me a room even avilable before the regular time as i rejected to pay the price. Try to speak several times to a Manager, and they where always busy even if a saw the, walking around.
The Crystal Suite was immaculate. The staff was very warm, accommodating and extremely helpful. The delegates who attended the conference were pleased with the service especially the buffet lunch. A special thanks to Mutazah who was our event manager. He did an outstanding job. He made every effort to ensure the audio and visual requirements of our conference were met. We'll be back!!
Hotel car parking on arrival is a bit of a hassle as this has to be done via a 3rd party company by phone. Hotel WiFi is OK on ground floor but as soon as you get up a floor then it is very poor, if not non-existent. Our room was supposed to be a Superior Double, but was very small with only a bed and a desk in it. Shower outlet was continually blocked, even though we reported it every morning, and we had to have interrupted showers to let the water drain away so the shower tray didn't overflow. The staff were excellent, although I was amazed on the 1st & 2nd nights that none of the bar staff knew how to serve me with lager shandy's. I know they were probably in training and their 1st language isn't English, but in that sort of environment it was still quite a surprise. The dinner menu in the evenings is somewhat limited but is very good value and quality. The buffet breakfast is also very good value. Overall the stay was OK, but it could have been much better. We will not be staying at this hotel again within the BW group purely on the car parking arrangement.
We booked this hotel as recommended by our Son. As it had been re-furbished it was a huge improvement on what the Hotel was like before when we stayed there some years back. We think Best Western have made a a superb job of all the work needed. The Superior Double room (202) was spacious and very clean as was the bathroom with a large shower that worked very well. The Air conditioner worked well once we had worked out how to drive it! The rooms windows cannot be opened so we found we had to run the A/C to get cool air for sleep. The double bed was comfortable and well supported. As we stayed on a Sunday night it was let at a good price and proved to be quiet without external noise being a blight. We will use this Hotel next time we want to stop over.
This hotel was extremely good value for the money paid on their ‘winter saver' room rate. Recently refurbished we were pleasantly surprised by the room and lounge area. Parking costs £10 for 24 hours. The cooked breakfast was fairly basic but for the price paid, satisfactory.
User Acceptance Testing, or UAT. I found myself asking if anyone had actually slept in this room, and if so did they experience the same issues as I did? I was 5 floors down - this was OK and I knew from other reviews to expect this. But the window looked out into a courtyard with a bright light shining. The curtain did not fully cover the window, meaning that the bright light shines straight in at eye level of anyone trying to get to sleep. My other issue was on the siting of the soap dispenser directly above the toilet roll, meaning that dribbles fall down straight onto it.
First impressed, then disappointed, satisfied in the end The hotel is an adapted old mansion, so it has lots of character and you can tell it has had many upgrades, but it still felt run-down in most areas. Our first night we slept poorly because there was a pervasive stench of marijuana, and we could clearly hear other guests fighting down the hall. I've given an overall rating of 3 because I was very pleased when the staff upgraded us to a better room in another area of the hotel at no extra cost. I want to note that many of the guests were a bit seedy, but that can be the case when nightly rates are low, so it's nonsense to blame the hotel for their clientele
We're visiting family in South London so this hotel is perfectly placed and very reasonably priced however some rooms are not great. Basement rooms are really not nice - we asked not to be in the basement so instead have been given a tiny room on the 4th floor. The ceiling drops to 5ft at 2 sides, the windows are tiny looking out onto a set of air conditioners. The toilet/shower room is also tiny with a shower door you have to squeeze past and a shower head you have to hold to keep on position. A loud air conditioning unit provides the heat, TV reception poor. Less than a foot clearance between the foot of the bed and wall and less than 3 feet to the left with a tiny desk making it very awkward to access the kettle. We probably should have asked to change rooms but have really only been sleeping here so didn't want the hassle. So overall disappointing room but great location and price.
Currently on our first morning. Room is exceptionally clean. Amenities plenty. Bed comfy, bedding immaculate. Staff friendly. Any problems are sorted straight away. Breakfast good plenty of choices. Very good value for money will definitely stay here again. Now to explore the surroundings
Stayed whilst meeting family. Most enjoyable hotel, near many attractions;bars;restaurants and the sports arena as well as the giant Crystal Palace park - do visit. Did not venture into central London, but our family find the overground railway from Gypsy Hill (10 min walk) takes you straight into Victoria Station with a hop and a skip into Westminster, Staff did everything to make our stay enjoyable and memorable.
The best hotel to stay whenever you are in London because the staff are very friendly to customers, the location is very close to a central bus station and a shopping mall (Sainsbury). It's also affordable to all..
The hotel appears to be fully refurbished now. The room was comfortable and the breakfast was good. Our second stay at this hotel and the staff on both occasions have been very friendly and welcoming.
Decent hotel, mainly good staff but, quite busy and only a limited range of dining and drinking also, lounge areas are a tad small for the size of the hotel. Very poor parking. However, that are a number of watering holes and eateries in the surrounding area. Other than that, actually pretty good; clean; efficient and good value.
the hotel was very well run with parking at 10 pound a day was a bounus 8 min walk to the station a nice park just down the road . the breakfast was great value for the money all in all a great place to stay
Stayed 2 nights lovely hotel rooms well decorated, theirs a nice buzz about the place staff really good and helpful especially Rahman at reception thanks for a welcoming stay. Fantastic location Will return soon. Bhupinder Atkar
Room was clean, well decorated and tidy. Able to adjust temperature with air con. Hot drink making facilities available. Easy to work from the room using a laptop, however it would have been better with a larger table. Good wifi included. Smart TV allowing Netflix or similar channels on a big screen. Staff not overly helpful, but there was a lovely man guiding people to the right place for breakfast. Lifts in place, one was broken during the stay but an alternative was available. Breakfast okay, I've had much better but also much worse. Avoid evening meal at all costs unless going for the fresh pizza from a clay oven. I had calamari and fish and chips, really poor quality, appeared processed and greasy and barely warm. Chips were actually fries that were hard and pale. Overall the hotel itself was reasonable for the price and there are plenty of restaurants nearby.
Very good value for money, No frills but good standard of room and breakfast, 1 star removed as the chairs in the dining room were grubby. The twin room had ample space for 2 people and was serviced promptly, Good standard of cleanliness except for the chairs in the dining room. The informal atmosphere was friendly, attentive and not invasive
Very nice. Not our 1st visit and will not be our last as long as we are not given a basement room. They tend to have a damp smell. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. We do tend to buy any drinks we may need as the vending machine is a little too steep at £2 a can of drink
We were a party of 5 travelling from the North of England to take 3 family members to London who were visiting the UK from abroad. As they don't speak English, we had asked for the rooms to be close by, in case they had any problems so that we were on hand to help them. On arriving at the hotel, a little earlier than the check-in time, we were told by a really rude young lady on reception that we were way too early and would have to come back later. Though she did take some details from us. We went off to find something to eat. We did mention to her that she clearly needed to learn some manners on how to deal with guests. On arrival back at the hotel we were met by Bianca who was rude beyond belief.. She told us she couldn't see anything on the system that her colleague had taken any info from us. A little hard to believe. She then asked if we all had any ID with us - we have stayed all over the country and quite regularly and have never been asked for ID anywhere. She admitted herself that she carries a photo of her passport on her phone as her ID - when quizzed over the stupidity of this, she just said it was a risk she was prepared to take. None of us had any ID so her next shot was that we needed to pay a £100 deposit, Again, something we have never encountered. We noticed a few other people checking in at the same time and to our knowledge none were asked for ID or to pay a deposit. Things started to get heated and I have to say, humiliating - she just kept quoting hotel policy at us. The rooms when allocated were not nearby as had been specifically requested but at completely opposite ends of the hotel, up and down numerous flights of stairs and seemingly in the bottom of nowhere. The room itself was small but reasonably comfortable. On check-out we met yet another lady on reception who provided all the paperwork and receipts that we asked for then just said 'right that's everything'. We had to point out that it wasn't everything as we needed our deposit back. We echo what one or two others have already said on here that the place does look ok and we suppose it is. Just that the staff attitude to guests leaves so very much to be desired. This was our guests - in fact, family members, very first visit to the UK and indeed to London and this is what they saw. I can only be thankful that they didn't understand just what was being said and how we were being treated.
Stayed here over the Christmas period for business & personal reasons. Hotel is generally speaking pleasant enough for a 3 star establishment, although I had ongoing issues with an erratic Wi-Fi signal, numerous false fire alarms and a lengthy wait for hot water to reach the 2nd floor. Hotel is ideally located for commuting into The City or Canary Wharf and would probably recommend it on the basis of value for money (and an extremely comfortable bed), just don't expect too much that's all.
Had a suite booked for New Year's Eve. Checked out and went home 2 hours after checking in. Nothing ‘special' about this place - and better bed, flooring, smell, everything at home. Not ushering in a new decade by waking up in this bleach-smelling sterile unit!
First problem when we arrived - car park barrier closed. My wife went to find out why and was informed very tersely "because it's full". So we spent our stay parked outside in the road, and were fortunate to find a space with no costs or restrictions..We were offered the possibility of space at the rear of the building which would cost £10, which we declined. Then when we got to the room, we found bare board flooring - not the best option this time of year in UK - and a noisy heating system. We had a problem with the shower: it didn't drain and we had water up to our ankles. I had a five minute job to do on my laptop which took a whole hour because the wifi kept cutting out. When we went out the next day, tried to put my laptop in the safe which would not close. All these reported to reception and when we returned that evening found that nothing had changed. We also noticed that the cleaning of the room left a lot to be desired: the skirting boards had obviousy not seen a cloth in ages. Clearly a lot of money spent on refurbishment, but lack of attention to detail justifies a lowly score.
We stayed here on Sat 14th Dec as a Christmas treat. We arrived at the hotel at 1.30pm, the hotel from the outside looked lovely and grand. Once inside it looked lovely and clean, really fresh and new looking. I went to reception and asked if i could check in earlier, she didn't even look up and snorted no 2pm at me. We took a seat in the reception and thought we would just wait it out. While seated quite a few other guests wandered in and managed to check in straight away. Around 1.50pm my husband was starting to get a little annoyed that all this guests were able check in but we couldnt so asked a male employee to which he found a different lady (blonde hair) who was able to check us in, i get that they have a 2pm time for a reason but very annoying when everyone else after us were assigned their rooms. Our room 025 was one floor down from reception and was a lovely spacious family room. We had a family room which consisted in a double bed and 2 twins, the room again looked very modern and lovely and clean. We did not have a view as we were in the basement but this didn't matter to us as we were heading off back into London for the Winter Wonderland. In the morning we had breakfast booked, the lady checking in for breakfast was nice and helpful cant remember her name just that she wears red lipstick. The breakfast was really nice, scrambled egg, bacon, sausage, beans, muffins, pastries, toast, yoghurts, fruits and cereal. A really nice selection and the food was really nice. After breakfast we packed up as heading back to London and the first check in woman who was rude to me checked me out. I was polite and said id like to check out, she literally just took the key off me and said nothing... No thanks for staying with, how was your stay? Have a nice day! absolutely nothing. I work in Catering and Customer services and just a small amount of courtesy goes a long way. Apart from the really rude woman (brown hair, in a bun) we couldn't fault our stay here and would look to stay again, but how people treat you as a paying guest goes a long way in my eyes and this woman needs a course in Customer Relations. We had no issues with noisy neighbours and we all managed to sleep really well I would mention that this hotel is a good 15 minute walk from Crystal Palace train station and it is very steep hills. We found this ok but my two young children did struggle with this a little. We did research the walk before we booked but weren't aware of the hills.
I booked on a travel comparison website when I booked into the best western. it seemed like the best cheapest option for me as I only needed somewhere to stay for 3 nights. i had been using AirBnb previously and stayed in people homes (who are kind enough to rent them out.) I was staying in London and had my car so it was important for me to stay somewhere with a parking space. When I arrived at the 'Best' Western, I realised I had not read the booking page clearly enough, (or it was not made big enough for me to clearly read) but it does say when i booked on google 'FREE PARKING' (I have a screenshot to prove this) and the pictures of the hotel on google make it look like a beautiful, clean and fresh hotel. As I arrived, I noticed there were about 20 car park spaces, and I had to wait about 15 minutes for a car to pull out for me to get a space. The car park is VERY tricky to manoeuvre around as there is only one in and one out, no room to turn around. The lack of car spaces clearly didnt bother some customers as they had parked their cars SO awkwardly, that no one could park next to them. (Im sure they knew what they were doing). Then a car park attendant came out the hotel and aggressively told me to pay for parking, at this point I had only just got into a space after waiting, AND I thought the parking was still free at this point. I go inside after a stressful debate with the attendant and im then met with the £10 parking fee for 24 hours. obviously realising im there for 3 days and am going to have to fork out an extra £30 for parking, i realised it would've been cheaper to stay somewhere else. Then I get to the room, I had payed for a single adult bedroom. they sent me away down some stairs, the hotel corridors had just been painted and the smell of paint was absolutely rancid. (not to mention they had painted it a terrible colour) but the stench of paint was inescapable. i arrived in my room that had 3 single beds, not much room for much else, and no window. It was a dark room filled with 3 beds, and id only paid for one. The beds were SO uncomfortable that I ended up needing the duvets from the two other beds to put on top of my mattress so I wouldn't feel the springs sticking out. The Bathroom only had one type of soap, no toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo or any toiletries. Only one form of squeezy soap in the bathroom. Luckily I didnt need breakfast as it was £9 a head for breakfast! .. The next day I come back to the hotel and there is the launderette 16 wheel lorry blocking the entrance. The hotel is on a yellow lined road so I could not just pull up on the side of the road and wait, I had to drive around for 10 minutes and hope I could get in the site. In the end I drove in the 'Exit' of the car park as I had just about lost patienc and I see that there is space for the launderette lorry, he just was not doing his job properly and had parked awkwardly. Then as I try to find a space, I see (again) that there are cars parked over the lines and wonky. (The parking attendants were really not very good at their jobs at all). I even pointed it out to the man and he proceeded to say 'Ah, On The Line, Is fine' Which obviously is not true, the lines are there for cars to be INSIDE OF. I was honestly shocked at the lack of professionalism in this hotel and it seemed as though no one understood my language. The only good thing about this hotel was that it had a good fish and chip shop along the road (Still over charged me for a fish and chips.. £8!!) but I then rang best western to complain about their Crystal Palace Hotel that I had been staying in and they told me to go and complain at reception, All they did was look at me with a blank face and say 'Im very sorry'. they did offer me a new room but at this point it was another paint smelling- dark room - still with no soap etc. will not be staying here and again and I recommend others avoid it too. Too much hassle for what it is worth. I was aware that every time I went to reception, to pay for parking, or to complain, or to check in/out, there was another individual at the desk complaining too - every time without fail. One complain due to the noise, one complain due the the foul smell coming from the bathroom drains. I Rate 2* is anything. I wanted a full refund for parking as I was told free parking but never received my refund either.
We stayed for 2 nights. On entry to the hotel it presents as well decorated and appears to have been recently decorated/renovated. The staff on reception were helpful and friendly and gave a warm welcome. The rooms are modern and well presented and the shower room is nice and contemporary. We found all areas of the hotel to be very clean and I am very fussy but found nothing to complain about there. The breakfast was good with plenty to choose from. We ate dinner at the hotel and the food was not spectacular but tastey enough and not over priced like some hotels. We had problems with some very noisy guests ( sounded like a herd of elephants) above us which the staff very sympathetic about and tried there best to resolve. The only thing I would say is that the hotel should put some pads on the legs of the chairs as when folk above are moving furnature around is is very noisy on the floors which have nice flooring but no carpets. The room we stayed in was a little narrow but long. Also the showers are not that powerful. We normally stay in the Travel Lodges when we come to London or the Premier inns. However we were happy with the standard of this hotel and will return again. Just one cristisism- reception staff, please, please, please answer your phone!!!! If you dial 0 for reception 0 response is exactly what you get. They never answer!
Now i saw someone mention the couple with excellent stamina and i cant let anyone else be taking credit for that! i was with 2 men. one being my boyfriend, Dan Leigh-ball and the other being a "friend" of ours we met that night. Im sorry to any disturbance this may have caused, should have come and knocked, would of been happy with an extra pair of hands to take my weight. Sincerely Mr Mcraken. Add my Kik.
A very noisy hotel They have alarms on each door if it is left open for very long.... so they are constantly beeping all night as guests come and go, bring luggage into their room or are departing. You can hear the scrapping of chairs on the upper floors, as well as TVs and guests talking in the rooms beside you. There is also a very annoying alarm that goes off even at 03:30 am!!! That is outside. I don't know if it a neighbour that has a home alarm, if it is a car alarm, or something related to their parking??? It went off multiple times in the middle of the night, and early am. The price is great! excellent transit connections if you want to go into central London (allow 1 hr at least). The rooms are very tiny compared to North American standards. So be prepared for little space. Comfy enough beds, fresh duvets. Nice Reno on the bathrooms, but the showers don't seem to drain. Still must be in Reno mode, the hallway carpets are in need of replacement, but our room had clean new laminate flooring so no yucky old hotel carpets were inside our room. Kettle in the room and instant coffee, tea options that were just fine. Room heating system seems rather useless, rooms always too hot and we were there in December and had the room on the lowest setting. Windows seem new, but you can hear a very busy street traffic and when people are smoking outside you can hear their conversations. Too bad they didn't put in better seals or quality windows to block out the noise. So bring earplugs for sure. The restaurant has a huge Reno, and offer standard hotel food at moderate prices. The quality isn't what I would expect, but it wasn't awful. (The prawn cocktail is served with small shrimp swimming in a ketchup/burger type sauce)- if you order it I would ask for sauce on the ‘side' and you can add what you like. The menu is very hard to read due to the colour of graphics and font colour- hopefully they will change this as they did such a nice job on the Reno of the space and are very proud of it. If you are looking for something in the lower end of hotel rates, this is a good deal- just noisy. Many different nationalities as employees, would be nice for guests that do not speak English as I'm sure they could find someone to help translate. But also is challenging when asking the housekeeper a question in English.
So good points room was clean Onto the bad points the room was freezing took about 40 minutes for heater to kick in shower at best was like warmth be fair my kitchen tap is hotter...major lack of staff and check in took long as did checking out I do feel they exploit lack of nearby parking by charging £10 to park in hotel grounds would not recommend or rush back.
We had two family rooms due to an error during booking but the rooms were large and decorated nicely. I only had a few issues, the guy on reception needed to stand nearer to the deodorant, I couldn't get the shower to cool down and my son, in the other room couldn't get it to heat up. There was broken glass by my bed which thankfully I noticed before cutting myself. Breakfast was nice once the dishes were filled and they produced some cutlery.
I needed to telephone the hotel to change my booking. After 2 days I gave up. The manager had to make needed alterations when I arrived because, I suspect, reception staff did not have adequate information to do so. Also, because their grasp of English was poor, I wonder if they avoided answering the phone? Next, the main lift was out of order for 3 days. Goodness knows what type of maintenance contract is held. Not good enough. Breakfast was truly underwhelming with dry scrambled egg and over-cooked bacon. Lessons could be learned from the Premier Inn chain, whose breakfast is far superior to anything Crustal Palace can offer, The same comment applies to the rooms, which are basic and uninviting. A disappointing hotel.
The hotel is nice, the room was large, spacious and clean with a decent size bathroom and shower. There was a choice breakfasts on offer, being, grab and go, continental and full english at varying prices to suit your preference. The full english includes the standard options and gives access to anything available. However, if you require vegetarian or gluten free options you need to request these from the waiting staff. The gf option seemed to be isolated to bread which seemed defrosted from the freezer so warm and served. The hotel layout is a little obscure and the direction from the reception staff could be improved. The reason i have given three stars and not four is because; - on check in (0030hrs) the front desk operative was not very friendly and came across in a rude manner. - on checkout day, (check out is at 1100hrs) the door to the room was knocked twice prior to 1100hrs to see why we hadn't left yet. - parking is chargeable at £10 per day which we paid but on check out we had a notice on the car stating we have a £200 fine for not paying. Now, i wouldn't mind if we hadn't paid but we had and the carpark is also controlled entry so the hotel staff let us into the car park and the security guy checked against our room number on arrival that we had paid. After speaking with Loredana (i think that's the correct spelling) at the front desk she just told us to forget about it and took the notice from us and said we would not be charged.
Lovely Hotel! Great staff, and good breakfast. Me and my boyfriend came here for bis weekend stay in London and we absolutly loved the hotel. Eventhough we arrived quite late, about 2:30 am, there was still staff at the reception who was very nice to US.
this was our honeymoon and the standard of room was not good the staff were not friendly at all a big let down the hotel area was so nice but that is were it ends we order a suppeirour room but to me thyat was a standard double
We stayed for the night in this Best Western Hotel for the first time and couldn't believe the comfort of the room, the quality of the breakfast and value for money. We will definitely seek out Best Western Hotels in the future.
I stayed 2 nights at the hotel, the stay was excellent, the hotel was clean, nice and neat room and also quiet. The personal was good aswell, especially the blonde Spanish girl in the reception was very helpful, friendly and lovely. She helped us with the luggage and sorted out our flights tickets, if I remember well her name was Maria. Definitely wewill come back.
This hotel is imposing from the road but not inside. If your expectations are low, you might not mind it. Everything is bare minimum and in my view unnecessarily so. It's full of tourists who know no better. I stayed in a best Western in Canterbury last weekend for less and it was a lot better. If you can ever find parking it's an extra £10. The breakfast isn't worth it and costs extra. The room I stayed in was like a very clean dungeon. Find somewhere else.
Great hotel. Bianka is the best receptionist I have ever met. She was very helpful and polite :). The hotel is clean and comfortable. Breakfasts was delicious. The hotel was really nice for price, room was lovely.
We chose this as it was cheap ish and not too far from central London. We were a little worried about the reviews but it was ok actually. We just had the room and no breakfast. (There is a Wetherspoons just around the corner!) Positives: - Clean room, bedding changed and sorted daily, clean towels given daily. Generally quiet for such a large hotel. - lovely staff, easy check in. - a short walk to the bus stop (I think it was a no.2) takes you to Whitehall in London and it's very cheap, worked out about £3 or £4 an adult. Children are free! Negatives - parking. We were happy to pay £10 a day but there were no spaces when we arrived at about 8pm. It's a massive hotel with a lot of contractors during the week. A staff member ended up giving us his space and we didn't move the car for the week. - our room was freezing on arrival and the showers are pretty bad...not much power. - wifi at night - our safe was broken on arrival but quickly fixed. We would stay again if it was cheap.
The hotel was really nice for the price but it took me a while to get settled into the room; at first the power in my room didn't work so i went down to the desk, they gave me a new card and it still didn't work. They then sent someone up to fix it, it worked for 5 minuets and switched off again. I went down for a 3rd time and this time they switched my rooms and the power was absolutely fine. Friendly staff and nice rooms.
Very clean hotel, cheap and friendly staff, bar quite expensive and $10 per night to park car.Room was lovely and spacious and towels and tea and coffee facilities topped up daily.Well reccommended cant say anymore!
I had a comfortable 6 nights stay in this hotel. Excellent value for money and it's really easy to reach central London by train. (30min) The room was clean and comfortable. Only minor downside for me was that the wifi was a bit shaky and only worked in one area of the room.
I'm staying at this hotel every week, very friendly staff, specifically Rahman Wajith and Egzona. Room is spotless, I love to stay in room 455. It's my second home really. Breakfast is excellent, lots of choices. Breakfast Staff are friendly and professional.
Good quality room and service, shame I could hear my neighbours pounding floorboards. Nice room furnishings, heating system extremely fangled so I was a bit cold but warm enough under duvet so I had a good sleep.
I'm staying at this hotel before refurbishment is done, they make massive changes as the hotel look beautiful and the rooms are clean and spotless, only the problem I have with high-speed Internet, but some area is very good signal and some area are not so good. One of the managers said that by the December 2019 wifi issues will be resolved. I'm looking forward to it.
The hotel was newly refurbished, staff were very helpful, at the check-in, Samia was very helpful also at the breakfast Loredana was great, she helps us with seating. Room was very nice and clean, all the amenities were in good order and the bathroom was spotless.
Hello All, I am writing this review while staying here. I have booked this hotel from 28th Oct to 9th Nov. After booking, I was really sceptic about this hotel after reading so many reviews in Trip Advisor. All of those reviews are proven wrong by the members of this hotel. Mr Batcha has helped me a lot and being a manager he personally has given me the room. I am staying in room 202. I cannot express feelings of how fabulous it is. Spacious, clean, well connected to the internet (being a business traveller this is the utmost priority of mine.) The staffs at reception, breakfast hall all are very helpful. The room is fitted with a large smart TV. I was overwhelmed when I can log in to my Netflix account and watch Money Heist in it :D. Under the management of Mr Batcha this hotel will be one of the best. He keeps his words and really helpful. I haven't seen him personally, otherwise would have Thanked him personally to make my stay so happy. Regarding breakfast, they have sufficient food menu and well-cooked food. I have stayed in other hotels in London as this might be mine 15th or 16th time here in London but never saw these many items in a breakfast buffet. Now, this has become my favourite and permanent destination while am here in London. I will from now on mail the hotel to book me Room 202 soon my visit is confirmed for London from next time onward. I can understand that the room may be booked by someone, but now I can guarantee that they won't disappoint me. They will surely give same type or maybe a better room. Just an advice: Please keep a micro oven to heat food bought from Tesco or Sainsbury. Thank You to all the staff of Queens Hotel Crystal Palace and special thanks to Mr Batcha.
Best Western hotel London is a nice place to stay wen u travel to London excellent service good rooms and very nice environment.is a place to be if I am going back to London next year best Western hotel London will be my home.
The hotel is absolutely amazing every time I stay there. Compliments to Egzona from reception and Cristina from the bar who always make my stay wonderful!! Breakfast is delicious and the staff always make sure everything is in order.
Queens Hotel is top notch. Big thanks to Mr.Rahman, Christina and the entire staff; can't forget the courtesy of Wadi..We spent two weeks last year and also in 2018...Excellent!! Highest recommendation to everyone.
We had requested an early check in and when I arrived at 10.30am I was very abruptly told that check in was 2pm and the conversation was over she moved onto the next guest. When we eventually checked in at 8pm that night I then found out that the two rooms we had requested to be beside each other because the second room was for our children we were told the rooms were on two different levels and there was nothing they could do about it until the following night. No apologies and they really couldn't care either. All the staff were foreign and appeared to be very unhappy in their job which unfortunately transferred onto the guests. The reception is constantly busy with people complaining. The queues at reception are crazy too. The rooms are miniuate on every level. Nicely decorated but no room to move as for the bathroom your lucky to fit on the toilet and I'm a small build. The hotel is a 15 min walk away from crystal palace train station and a 30 min train ride into London Victoria centre so very far out of the city. Train fares add up very quickly. A return trip for 2 adults 2 children is 20 pounds a day and does not include underground. The staff are not interested in helping in anyway, we asked 3 different staff members for directions to the city and they weren't helpful at all. This is a glorified hostel.
My stay was really great and with a reasonable price, I booked standard family room and without me asking for a good room they upgraded my room to the 5th floor. All the staff are great but Ibrahim was especially great and helpful, if you stay at this hotel make sure Ibrahim is around to make the best of your stay.
Great value with great service. Breakfast and dinner enough option to chose from, relaxed atmosphere, rooms very comfortable, all essentials provided. The team is always there if you have any questions or concerns.
Have been several times to the Queens Hotel, always helpful, welcoming and friendly, thank you. Very spacious and comfortable rooms, very clean. Would love to stay again and i always recommend this hotel to my friends.
Staff very welcoming as usual. very accommodating. Room was newly refurbished, clean and nice. Enjoyed the Pizzapolli restaurant, bar. We enjoy this location. breakfast was delicious, they had so much options. I recommend this hotel.
The room was clean although rather small it had all you needed. Reception was always busy so a lot of waiting about. Only one small lift was working so again a long wait. The air conditioning only blew out cold air so it was cold at night.
Location decent, not at all central but good links to city. Room was nice - good decor, spacious with a nice bathroom and decent shower but there were dirty marks on the towels. Restaurant/bar area nice as well and fairly priced especially for London. However, there was a weird smell like cooking really greasy food in the hallways. One night fire alarms kept going on and off at midnight, unsure what this was? Some staff seemed unfriendly. The hotel was very loud - walls so thin you can hear low talking in the rooms next door, sounded like people were moving furniture all night long and music came on from downstairs at 5am. Not horrendous for money but probably wouldn't return.
excellent value for money. The staff were very helpful. My room on the fifth floor was big and had great views. Very clean. £9.00 for a burger cheap compared to other places in the location. Breakfast plentiful. Would return and recommend to others
Be careful when told how many flights of stairs there are to room. I was told two, after decending about five flights and no sign of room decided to go back to reception to change to a room on a floor nearer to reception. There was no problem doing this.
My friends and I stayed in a quadruple room. It was clean, a very good sized room which had one double and two single beds. A lovely spacious shower room and plenty of storage for our clothes. We booked a breakfast which was hot and plentiful. We chose full English which entitled us to eat continental as well. There was plenty of choice of food and the staff were constantly replenishing it. Staff were polite and friendly. Overall a good base.
Really enjoyed my stay, Female on reception I think her name was Ejxona was kind and allowed us to check in early which I really appreciated. Had dinner in the restaurant and the food was amazing my compliments to the chef. I will come back for sure.
I found this hotel absolutely amazing, I stayed in a double superior room which was comfortable, clean and very tidy. I found the reception staff very approachable and friendly, specifically Egzona as she was extremely welcoming and assured me of all my requirements during my stay. This was one of the best short stays I have experienced in London.
We were very disappointed with this hotel. They had the grumpiest receptionist who really didn't want to help us with anything. We booked 2 family rooms. But they were so far apart. Not even on the same floor. It was like one was in the dungeons. Talk about dark and grim and made me feel very vulnerable. Surely when you book 2 family rooms you clearly have kids and want to be next to them not 2 floors away. And to top it all NO HAIRDRYER. I'm astounded that any hotel room does not have one. I will never book here again. On a positive the rooms were clean and the beds and pillows were good.
I was staying in the hotel for a two night business trip and the service I got from the staff was fantastic, especially from a young gentlemen called Ibrahim he was very helpful for the duration of my stay
its location is quite good,,many attractions are nearby ,,,the staff are ok and it is not expensive they serve good breakfast,,it is really a good hotel,,,, rooms are clean,, bathrooms as well, really i will go again
Room was ok, small but comfortable. Staff are miserable and very rude. Breakfast is an absolute rip off, cheap stuff and it's like feeding time at the zoo, manic and staff are watching your every move. The place is so noisy, can't get a decent nights sleep because all you hear is banging. At 5am music comes on from downstairs in the reception area?! It's so loud. What is that all about? £10 a day to park in the car park, another way to sponge money out of you. The only nice people in that place was the lady that cleaned the room, she was lovely and very kind. I've stayed in better hostels than this dump. Avoid at all costs!
You cam smell the public toilets which are near the entrance as soon as you walk inside. The service desk was below par. Security half asleep and the room was an absolute dungeon. I have never been to prison but I bet it feels like this. Make sure you specify that you DO NOT want to stay in an underground room without windows. Fake window with illuminated picture. Nasty cheap and digusting, felt like a caravan. Do NOT TAKE YOUR DATE OR GIRLFRIEND HERE, SHE WILL DUMP YOU!!!
Rude staff- not a please or thank you. Weird smell in stairwell. A cat couldn't swing a mouse in the bathroom. Could hear noise from upstairs all night and every noise from hallway as well- won't be back and would recommend that no one else goes
We were staying due to attending a funeral the next day. Upon arrival we found no disabled access, my wife walks with a stick and finds stairs painful. We had to wait 30 minutes to check in. No apology given for wait, when I remarked about lack of disabled access, I was told that I should have seen the stairs on the website photo!!! I found the staff member extremely rude and defensive of my complaint, again no apology.
Never again! The bedroom we were allocated (020) is directly underneath the dining room. The noise was ridiculous, scraping table and chairs. Footsteps walking backwards and forwards. It was impossible to sleep . I would definitely not recommend this hotel
Stayed here several times In August, primarily because of the location. Rooms are functional, bathroom very good, and a decent breakfast is served. Staff were helpful, although some communications difficulties arose. Enquiries about parking did not disclose the threat of major fines for not having the voucher on display, but was sorted out satisfactorily.
I'm a frequent traveler to London with work and travel and I wouldn't stay anywhere else! The efficiency of every department and their enthusiasm to meet my needs and request is good class service! All managers and staff in every department chat, share a friendly smile, making my stay feel homely. Michaela in housekeeping, Mutaza the Hotel Manager and Wajith and Rahman the front desk managers and F and B team Shahul and Raj , Daniela and Cristina always go fully above and beyond to ensure I am always happy and comfortable, giving anything I ask and are all always so well mannered and professionally spoken and dressed. Also a special Mention to front security and the Maintainence team .Best Italian style pizza served in Crystal Palace also. EVERY STAFF MEMBER in the hotel is number one. I'd say many other guests feel the same which is why this hotel is completely booked out all year around. 9 stays now and many more to come. Thank you team!
Great location next to the park and within walking distance of restaurants. Check before you book that you will get a room with a window, some are internal/basement rooms with fake windows. The rooms are good but poorly soundproofed, take earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
The staff were very helpful and they changed rooms when it was needed and the worker Ibrahim helped with luggage and room change. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable and the service was excellent
stayed one night here , easy check in spotlessly clean room , we had a double room on the ground floor very quiet apart from some noisy guests at 1.30 am going to there room , which the hotel can not help . one of the most comfortable beds i have ever slept in , was a king size , lovely bedding . black out curtains . We never had breakfast so can not comment . Must give a big shout out to the manager who was really helpful , we had passed through a congestion zone and was not sure how to pay it , Manager got us the web site and explained it to us so we could pay . In a lovely area where there was some great independent shops , pubs and of course a wetherspoon .All in all a great stay would not hesitate to stay here again .
No frills. I don't need a fancy lobby, velvet curtains or chocolates on the pillows. It's clean and the wiFi works. What more can you want. A short trip to the underground or a 30 minute drive into central London (Providing you know where to park).
I've stayed here a couple of times since the refurb and been impressed on how much it has improved. Nice refurb and the rooms are now modern and pretty smart. Not tried the food but the restaurant again is smart and the food looked decent. In a good area with plenty of bars and restaurants only a couple of minutes walk away. Parking is a bit of a con at £10 but that's London for you. Will be back again soon.
I found the fact that I had to walk down 3 flights of stairs with luggage, really annoying. No one informed me this was the case & is insane for elderly people, luckily I am not old. The staff did not show any interest in me as a guest & in fact were shocked I requested drinking water & asked them for it free. They initially referred me to the vending machine, selling expensive mineral water. Then gave me distilled/filtered water from their breakfast room. The room was depressing & I had no view from my window. The sleep was fine but the early 11am checkout should be in line with 12pm, like most hotels in the area.
We stayed here as we were visiting our son's place. I wouldn't ever again. From the outside it looks like a lovely hotel. Parking was an extra £10 for 24 hours. We weren't allowed to book in before 2pm and when we did there quickly arose a queue behind us as others must have been told to wait also. The reception, at first glance, looks modern and bright, but the carpet tape that joins the flooring to the carpetted corridor from the reception sets the tone for the whole hotel - cheap and nasty. Although the room was spacious, there is little more that can be said positively about it. The bathroom room toiletries were cheap, even the toilet roll is the cheapest you might get from a cut price shop. The shower was the old fashioned type above the bath - giving a slippery surface under foot. Then the curtains didn't fully draw in the room. The breakfast wasn't included in the price and customers are given three options. We chose the full English, which was the most expensive at nearly £10 each. We were shown to a table and allowed to help ourselves to the buffet. The juices were cordial from the dispencer, although we did find concentrated orange juice afterwards. The coffee tasted like granular and when the full English was dropped on our table, it looked like the type you might get from some cut price type chain for £3.50. It tasted awful. On the positive, there was pastries, fruit and cold meats on the buffet to pick from, but we din'y bother as we were put off.
Visited this hotel to attend a family wedding nearby. Had travelled from West Wales and after a long journey needed somewhere to freshen up and get changed for the wedding. An aloof receptionist informed us we could not check in until 2pm (fair enough) but we asked if there was anywhere we could leave our luggage and freshen up and change into our outfits. She told us we could only do that in the public toilets. You are telling me that a hotel of this size didn't have a spare room that we could change in???? Very poor attitude and service. My sister who was staying further down the road in another hotel was accommodated with no issues at all. We wanted a soft drink but the bar didn't open until 3pm!!! Our only option was a vending machine. For a hotel of this size again, customer service is a huge issue. We had to leave our bags in the car and check in after midnight when we returned from the wedding. I made a family booking with a twin and double room. We were given rooms two floors from each other. I explained to the receptionist that with children we were unwilling to stay so far away from them. Eventually we were found two rooms in the basement but as this was a family booking this was totally unacceptable. The rooms are basic and clean so no issues there. We ate breakfast in the restaurant which was fine, but none of the tables were cleaned from previous diners and they weren't that busy. Overall, the hotel is in a good location and could be so much better if Best Western trained their staff in customer service as they were not helpful or understanding of the needs of us as customers. This could be a very food hotel but our experience with unhelpful and rude staff would mean we would think twice about booking again.
Breakfast caotic and badly run, broken coffee machine! Room smelt of sewarge and we were unable to use the bathroom. Family room at the back of the hotel along corridors and up and down 6 flights of stairs!
Good place to stay. Nice and clean rooms. Helpful staff. Located near overground station and bus that goes directly to the city centre (number 3 that goes to charing cross). Delicious breakfast. Recommened to everyone.
Great location for Crystal Palace although road very busy. Hotel ok. Rooms a bit dated. Staff not very interested and breakfast not good at all. parking very limited and a lot of noise throughout night as situated on road side.
We had a great service by Ibrahim at the reception desk when we arrived. He was able to help with our quest and made us feel welcomed. Thanks for the hospitality. Only we could not get an iron to iron our clothing which we would have much appreciated.
Great room rates but staff are rude and don't listen to customer needs. If youre eating breakfast there's a weatherspoon round the corner which is better to eat at! Didn't enjoy my stay and wouldn't stay here again
This last minute booking was the worse ever however the manager did his best to help up. The Hotel has two standards. The good rooms are expensive. Our room was down many narrow steps and had no windows so no fresh air. The manager changed us to a room with windows,, still narrow stairs and no lift. To be fair I made the decision and without know .. I made a big mistake. Good luck
Very clean a spacious reception area. Ate one meal and a very reasonable amount on the table with a good average price. The room i had was very small, but we only slept there as we went into London first thing and came back late. For the women, bring a hairdryer, the one in the room isn't great as my wife found out. The shower is very poor, when the nozzle is turned upside down, the pressure is shocking, but we left it as we were away most of the day and only there for three days. The girl at reception was very helpful with advice on how to get into town and very polite which i was surprised, going by other reviews but i can only comment on my own experience. The bus 432 will bring you to Brixton where you can get the underground into London. There is also a over ground rail. Both are extremely handy. Overground rail is about a 15min walk, and the bus is less than 5 mins, just across from paddy power's in the town. I would stay there again if I had too, but it is a bit out of London as it takes almost an hour to get in with public transport.
Hotel was lovely decorated, staff were friendly however they was a bit slow on reception it was very busy so there was a queue near enough out the door. Restaurant looked nice and food smelt good wish we had tried the breakfast! Definitely would come back.
Great Hotel at an Affordable Price in June. Professional and courteous staff. Very spacious, luxurious, enSuite cleaned daily. Air conditioning, large flat-screen TV. FREE Wi-Fi with efficient internet connection. A negative is that it is outside of central London, and transport is severly affected by weather conditions. Location was tricky to find, my travel experience got easier once I worked out a system. To go to central London, walk to Westow Hill, get bus 322 to Gypsy Hill station, then take National Rail train into central London. To return to hotel, get National Rail train from London Bridge or Victoria to Crystal Palace train station, then get bus to Church Road opposite Best Western London Queens Hotel in Crystal Palace. I would stay again for the hospitality and better than average accommodation.
Whilst a bit faded glamour from the outside, and the outside could so with a tidy up and a rethink, for the money it was great. Room although small, had booked a Superior Double, was very clean and at the back of the hotel away from the main road so quiet. Bathroom was nice. Aside from the reception areas and breakfast restaurant, the communal areas felt a little dated - the halls are very dark. the reception staff when we checked in and checked out could not have been more friendly. Very well located for Crystal Palace and Gipsy Hill only a 15 minute walk. Some great cafes and restaurants nearby and walkable. Stayed for one night and suited our purpose perfectly.
I stayed recently at BW Queens in Crystal Palace and honestly had such a great experience. It was my first time at a Best western hotel and I can't wait to book again- service was great. I was travelling from Scotland so I deffo didn't know the area at all and the girls working in the morning are so warm and welcoming always had a smile on their face. They were also kind enough to help me and my friends out with directions- even printed them out for us depending on which location we were going to each day!!! Room was super clean and breakfast was at a very convenient time. Overall, it was an amazing stay and made my London experience a memorable one, we will deffo be returning !!!
Really enjoyed our stay and staff were really helpful. First room was far from reception but staff immediately sorted it out. Room was clean with nice view from top. Thanks to the housekeeping for keeping our room tidy.
We booked a best western hotel as believed the reputation was good. We stayed at the Queens hotel, Crystal Palace where we were placed in a room I can only describe as a dungeon. On the positive we were moved after requesting this however this did mean 2 had to share a bed. Our room was clean, however the drains were smelly and sink drained slowly. I have not slept either night, due to constant doors banging and shouting throughout the night!! Breakfast was absolute chaos, cooked breakfast was cold and for the continental breakfast items were not available resulting in me paying a high price for a piece of toast and lukewarm tea. Staff were rude, and there was a long wait for cutlery, meaning the cold breakfast was colder by the time it could be actually eaten. Never will I be booking a Best Western Hotel in the future if this is the standard they are comfortable with!!!
Stayed 2 nights as couple given double bed and single bed. Exceptionally clean, biggest shower been in ever. Friendly , helpful staff. Lots bars restaurants nearby. We came by train so cannot comment on parking but seemed a lot of parking available. Very spacious hotel with pizza polo bar. Would deffo stay again. We were at front where main road was but very quiet.
Horrendous. Possibly one of the worst hotels I have stayed in. Its like a underground rabbit Warren. My room had no windows. The clock didn't work, the telly didn't work. The shower wouldn't drain away. The room was tiny for one let alone two. The breakfasts were again one of the worst I have experienced the eggs were like rubber the rest was either over cooked or under cooked. The bread was dry and just unfrozen or so it seemed. Their was no fruit. The hotel where I was was dark and hideously decorated in dark grey and a aqua blue. Horrible. Who ever did the decor wants shooting All in all AVOID at all costs
My son was with his school class there - it was super! And he raves about the breakfast! The room was Perfect for three Boys- they were happy via the Internet! All People of the School class tells very good about the Hotel and the new owner- last year it was Not so good!
This is a very good hotel for contractors , we have been staying there for a couple of months , it has safe parking , an ok refurb ... all you need really , Done side , the bar prices went up 50 %!!! Hmmmm But all in all a decent hotel , spoons up the road ! And the white hart for a decent pint , and great burgers on a Tuesday night
We paid over £100 for a room, the hotel is huge and there didn't look to be many people in it; we were out in a room in the basement with a view of a dirty wall. The room stank of lemon and bleach and mildew but there was no way to ventilate it. It was also tiny, had to edge around the bed. The glasses were plastic (hello, environment?) the foyer is awful plasticy cheap, hallways have awful industrial carpets covered in neon yellow strips, you cannot book at reception but you have to show them your passport or other photographic Id which they take a photo of - no explanation as to why. In the end I couldn't breathe because of the very strong smell in the room and our inability to ventilate it and we gave up and left, I was worried it would affect my lungs if I slept there. We stayed once before about 8 years ago and it was awful, and I'd heard that it's changed but it looks the same to me, it might have had some remodelling but the rooms are smaller. Reception staff also unfriendly and unhelpful.
The female reception staff delivered the worst customer service iv experienced in a long time. The woman who "greeted" us was extremely rude, unprofessional, and clearly 100% uninterested. Room was nice, but due to the abysmal staff, id avoid!!
Awful staff 0 hospitality skills! There was a large school party in when we were there so therefore wasnt able to get breakfast! We were also in a room in the basement of the hotel so could hear all the screaming kids running around the place! And there was no loft down to the basement rooms either!
I generally avoid Best Western's after some bad experiences. However, I was here on business and this was the only place available in South London during Wimbledon fortnight, and it exceeded my expectations. Check-in was slow and frustrating. Too few staff. However, my room was clean, modern, comfortable and had air conditioning. It's the quality of the room which is the main plus point of this hotel. Breakfast was as chaotic as the check-in. I couldn't figure out if I was due a full English or where I could get it from. Again, too few staff. The breakfast food was better than the usual Best Western poor standard - fried eggs, proper tomatoes, decent bacon and sausages. It could have been warmer though. Furthermore, despite the limited numbers, the staff that were available were friendly and helpful. Overall, this is a 3-point hotel. But the room and staff in the context of London bump it up to a 4. It's flawed, but I would stay here again which Is the best praise I can give.
The hotel looks amazing inside and out! The stuff was extremely helpful and were smiling all the time!! The rooms are so beautiful and clean and having quotes of artists just makes it even more special! Maybe I should point out that there are Night buses that take you very close to the hotel at night! ;)
We arrived on a roasting Saturday to stay up here for a family BBQ. Noticed that we had to pay £10.50 PER DAY for parking which was not said whatsoever on their website! I thought if the outside looked touristy and nice, the inside couldn't be too bad...no I was wrong. This place is a maze, the room lay out is completely confusing. I mean the same floor as the reception starts at 700, what's that about?! It also smelt damp and the signs for where each rooms are were drawn on and terrible. Not to mention the staff. The woman who served us at the reception couldn't understand anything we said and whatever we asked she stared at us with a dead face for a couple of seconds like someone had died! The website we had used to book the hotel had also clarified we could cancel 2 days before your actual stay without having to pay and you could pay when you got to the hotel because that's how hotels usually work. They had told us then and there that they had taken out the money yesterday out of one bank account with no notice. What if the money wasn't there? Got into the rooms and it was an absolute tight squeeze and the view was great! A brick wall ;) It's horrendous how they wanted to put my disabled grandmother in a room that took windey stairs to walk down and it also had no window, how illegal. This woman we kept seeing just starting in to nothing was hilarious, she's definitely in the wrong job and staff have no clue what they're doing. Wanted a coffee after getting back from this BBQ but everything is closed which is ridiculous? Turned the TV on in the room, not too loud, but as the walls are made out of cardboard, a person banged on the wall. Definitely not excited to go to sleep and get kicked out at 11am and if we stayed any longer we'd be charged £10. What I was also surprised about is that the serve breakfast from 7am till 11am and if you missed they didn't sell anything after. The only nice thing to say about this place is that the price is extremely cheap. All i can say is, Best Western, get your stuff together. P.s if you took the time to read this, take it from me don't come here unless you seriously need somewhere to crash.
For starters the room was like a dungeon. We was there for 1 night. Myself my 3 young children and my husband, when I told them there was no room to fit the travel cot the answer I got was "this isn't actually a family room.. we havent got any other rooms, can you put the baby in bed with you?!" Who even says that?.. the slider window opened fully with no safety catch, so I was on edge with the children as this is clearly a health and safety problem. The shower was blocked and when we told them I was handed 6 towels to soak the water up. I was told someone would be with me in 10 minutes.. no1 came. Never would stay here again.
Good hotel marred by lack of staff or at least visible staff, good quality rooms, clean, high standard of cleanliness. Issues? Poor menu choice, you have to order food at the bar and the bar quite often didnt have someone serving, quite a few haclked off guests,, strangee as this is where the hotel could make good money All in all good hotel but poor services.
This was my first stay here since Best Western took over and I can say that it is a much better place for it. The hotel has been entirely redecorated and gives a much better impression. From arrival to departure, the staff here are friendly and effective. I had a ground floor room that was large, comfortable and clean, and also got natural light throughout the day. There was a wide variety of items available on the breakfast bar and I was also impressed that a vegetarian English breakfast was an option. Great place to stay in south London.
Except for a few minor imperfections, this hotel is a very pleasant place. I think but the ratio of price and quality is great. The location in London was great, it was easy to get to the center. But there is a lot of movement in the hotel and it is quite noisy, it depends on how hard you sleep :)
Clean modern, basic room with double & single bed. Brand new bathroom. Looks as if part way through a refurbishment, new carpets but scuffed walls. £10 to park the car. Breakfast was ok. Not spectacular but perfectly adequate, cheap.
Horrible experience The Window could not close, freezing all Night long, The wifi did not work in our room. Toilet Seat was loose and the water boiler for the coffee was leasing, so no coffee Should have States 3 Nights, left after 1. Terrible and especially when I was traveling with a child
Stayed for one night - whole London was so expensive - and I got a good deal 67,50£ Staff by check-in was super friendy, busy but friendly. There it's going on some refurbishment work. They gave me firstly room on the 4th floor (nice small room) but there was a strong smell of cigarettes (even the hotel is listed as no smoking) they gave me a different room straight away. This time on the second floor. I had booked superior double room Both the rooms were newly refurbished and. Clean. Comfy bed, and big bathroom. I had only two issues. The walls are really thin so I could hear a lot what it's going on... Alarm set up on some else iPhone wake up me by 6:30 am. So I'll recommend using earplugs. The second issue there was a stain on the bed sheets. But this is only a small thing. I would stay again
My husband and I have just stayed here for two nights, we found the hotel to be very conveneient for public transport, a lovely location. Room was very quiet, we were on the 4th floor BUT the reception staff were far from friendly, could not wait to get rid of you quick enough and when I went to ask for my keycard I was answered with a tut!! When we asked for teabags for the room, they were delivered and almost thrown at my husband so better customer service would go a long way!!! Breakfast was very good but very confusing as the first morning it was served, and the second was self service, and when I asked why, the man said, because it is! The breakfast is also operated by getting a ticket which is given to the restaurant staff - Morning 1 - please get the ticket from reception - which I did, on morning 2 when I went to reception for the ticket, I was grunted at and told the staff in the restaurant would give me one?? Lovely location, stunning room with breathtaking view, BUT please get some friendly staff.........
Best value hotel in London. Room was so spacious compared to other hotels we've stayed in. Really clean and seemed to have been recently refurbished. Only thing I would say was an issue was being woken by the cleaner at 9am but we hadn't put the do not disturb sign on the door so our fault really!
•the hotel staff were unfriendly & unhelpful •the room smelt stale & damp •the noise was continuous until almost 2am •the rooms are so small (&we booked a superior one) •we were unable to eat in the hotel restaurant as a school party had reserved it. We were very disappointed with our stay & definitely won't be returning. I have stayed in Best Westerns before & never had a problem but this was a let down.
The room was nice but there were very loud noise above as they are put us in the basement directly above the dining/breakfast/function room. We complained few times and we spoke to the manager as well , he said he had received complaints about it, but why are they not sorting the problem out?? He offered us a free breakfast which we declined, we asked to be transfer to different room but they said there's no available room, and said they'll move us the following morning as we are booked for 2 nights. Before we left the following morning about 8 we went to reception about moving us to a different room, the gave us the key straight away and said we can or they move our stuff to our new room, we did went to the new room quickly as we need to leave to meet up with my son. So the question is "Why can't they sort the noise problem if they knew guests are complaining? They shouldn't put guests in that room which is at the basement room below that function room, it's the dragging of furniture and footsteps from the time we went back the hotel in the evening like 6 PM till 12:30 am then again it started around 5:30in the morning, so you see we hardly had a sleep , we were very tired due to lack of sleep that night.
The hotel is very clean and tidy. I had nothing to complain about whatsoever . Would definitely come back here for a third visit sometime in the future. The staff are also very friendly. English breakfast was good too.
We arrived here at 3pm and were welcomed by a pleasant young lady on reception who was very friendly, polite and efficient. I walk using a crutch and although I hadn't booked a ground floor room she made sure I had one. The room was spacious and very clean. We had booked a double but were given a double bed and a single. Beds were clean, well made and comfortable. Tea and coffee were supplied and there was enough for 4+ drinks each night The ensuite bathroom was perfect. Clean towels were supplied in abundance! Overall cleanliness of the hotel is good although somethings could be improved on. To be honest I would definitely book again and in fact shall be returning with the grandchildren later in the year. Well done to everyone Who works there and played a role in our perfect stay!
This hotel has no quality. Too busy and noisy at the time. - mainly kids, more like a boarding house. Staff is inexperienced and helpless. The manager which i talked to was a bit rude, without any courtesy. Renovated but old parts are evident. The room smelled fresh paint! Unfortunately i have nothing positive to mention, maybe the ...price :)
We had a very pleasant stay. Very clean hotel and rooms. Bed was very comfortable. The Full English Breakfast was hot and delicious. You can't beat the price, especially in London. We'll definitely be back.
A clean, (on this particular occasion) affordable, convenient overnight stay with a decent cooked English and continental breakfast provdided. Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely park nearby. Highly recommended.
If you don't mind a lack of parking because half the car park has been locked shut, a tedious check in and curtains that don't fit then this is the hotel for you. On the plus side the room was comfortable and the TV worked.
As I was taking part in the historic lorry run from London to Brighton I needed a hotel close to the Chrystal palace start point at reasonable cost, this hotel exceeded my expectations as when I booked my booking was based solely on cost .
First, I am thankful that we could reserve a room only 5 days before our flight. The BW Crystal Palace was undergoing renovations in the lobby area, and that made it congested each day. The Registration / Lobby area is up a flight of stairs. In the US, we'd say they were on the second floor. The problem we experienced, was that our room was in the "basement" 2 floors down, with no Lift. Being in our 60's, we found it difficult after a long day of sightseeing to go up a flight into the hotel, and then down 2 flights. The rooms were small by American Standards. We had a "triple" room, consisting of a single and double bed, which pretty much took up the whole room. I found the staff to be helpful and courteous, and willing to do what they could to make your stay better. Two nights in a row the fire alarm system went off. One night it happened 6 times, making for a miserable sleepless night, and dreary morning. I spoke to a manager in the morning, and he asked if there was anything he could do to acoomodate us for the inconvenience. I was so fuzzy headed, I could not think of what to request and just thanked him for the offer. I found the one meal we ate in the Restaurant to be unsatisfactory, so we did not eat there again. It was convenient to a bus stop and the town of Crystal Palace was about 5 minute away, so we could walk to do some shopping and eat in the local cafe's, or I would go to pick up something for us. The renovations made lobby area congested each morning.
I've read bad reviews about this place and it really goes beyond me, I love staying at this place - the staff are wonderful, very helpful and friendly. I stay here very often about 3-4 times a month and really won't stay anywhere else! Rooms are great quality and newly furnished(by the looks of it) lovely bathrooms and it's just a great experience overall. About a 2 min walk from local shops and restaurants (the have a big sainsburies which has all essentials). Would really recommend this place to anyone.
Overall the hotel was clean and tidy just failed to live upto the expectations of a good nights sleep with very little in the way of rectify a couple of sleepless nights due to serve creaking floors in corridor above room
The queens hotel is a very nice hotel situated in the heart of Crystal Palace. Crystal palace itself is like a mini Blackheath Village. It is accessible, close to all amenities, with trendy bars and restaurants nearby. Even with a trendy nice cinema. There is also the famous Crystal palace Park which is in my view is an excellent park to have in the vicinity. In my humble opinion the Queens hotel has made a marked improvement since its renovation and that is why l have chosen to stay there anytime l am in the U.K. The Queens hotel meets all my requirements and with it been situated in Crystal Palace is an excellent bonus. From my observations, the hotel staff are very good and appear to be very well trained in order of catering for the guests individual needs. The reception Staff in my view are excellent (to mention a few really nice staff l have interacted with), Natalie ( always warm and helpful), Aline ( would always meet with a smile at breakfast time and engage in a conversation), and my favourite person Egzona. ( she deserves a hospitality medal). Always smiling what ever the circumstances. Egzona would go an extra length to solve a problem no matter how many times it presents itself. The best part of it all is that she solves the problem with a captivating smile. (Egzona, you wear that smile very well. Please never loose it). My second favourite staff is Catalina. Catalina is the regular person that cleans my room. Catalina is warm, kind and engaging. Catalina never complains about anything. I always like to stay in Catalina room patch area. Because she does her job very well. When l arrive my room is not only very clean but also smells very fresh. Her corridor is clean and the carpet smell exceptionally fresh like air. Thank you so mu Catalina for looking after me. Special thanks to all the Queens hotel staff and carry on the good work. BW me.
We stayed for three nights I wish had been able to go elsewhere but everything else was booked up or ridiculously expensive. Hotel under revamping and you can tell dust and dirt everywhere old hair in bathroom put us right off . People checking in all night and kept us up very off putting parking also charged at £10 per night but free outside on street I've stayed in best western hotels before but this was very disappointing. Shame was not told about conditions and work going on at time of booking shame on them
We arrived early and was hoping for a room to be ready, no such luck. Mentioned to the clerk we were going to London and nothing offered in the way of how to get there or what to do while there. Not impressed as the website stated we could get discounts on certain activities. We asked how to get to the train station and directions were vague. Staff not helpful so have your information before you go. Upon our return to the hotel we were given a room on floor 0, -1 on the elevator. That is not a good sign. There was noise beside us (room doors slamming), outside our windows (smoking area) and above us (the front desk/lobby). Between chairs being dragged across the floor, people walking (but sounded like stomping) across the floor, it was the noisiest room I have stayed in. The room was newly decorated which was nice. The bathroom wasn't bad but not one rail to hang a towel! It did have the smallest sink I have ever seen though. I wouldn't stay there for more than one night unless absolutely necessary.
Choice between a double bed in the basement (how is it possible and how come it is not mentioned at the booking) or a single bed with a window. Choice for single bed, but in fact more like a 1st year university bedroom. Not clean (carpet and wall). Noisy. Poor bed quality. Very small and inconfortable bathroom. Poor breakfast with no sufficient room. Clearly not recommended!
The room was nice and clean and had four beds which was great for the family. Unfortunately it's location was not as it was under the main entrance and the view from the window was a pile of empty beer crates. It was also noisy as you could hear people moving about the loby all night. Would have probably gone four stars given price and good beds but breakfast made it 2. The service was terrible, very disorganised, the system for hot food was nonsensical and the food was poorly cooked, eggs greasy, mushrooms slimy, not what you expect of a Great Weston Hotel. To top it off due to the terrible organisation we waited 45mins for hot food and then there were no forks!
This is more a hostel than a hotel with a rabbit warren of rooms that are badly sign-posted and confusingly laid out. Our room when we found it had its "window" bricked up -so not for the claustrophobic.Made sure we knew where the fire escape was! Although cheaper than in central London it is not easy to get to with a 20 min walk from / to the train station and 10 min to the local bus station. Although ok from outside the internal decoration is awful and dull. However Bathroom was clean and beds were comfy and neatly made. Glad we only stayed two nights. Suggest you pay a bit more and find somewhere closer to public transport links
I arrived 4 am in the morning...Actually I get lost by my mistake but when I call to the hotel the reception was very helpful and help me a lot!!! Breakfast it cost a little bit more than it should...cause you can eat with the same money an excellent English breakfast and somewhere else but it's ok. Bus stations it's near to the Hotel where you can be to center of London in just 45 minutes. General its value for the money, I suggest it.
I used to be a regular visitor to this hotel but it had really gone downhill so I've stayed away for quite a while. On hearing that it had been refurbed I decided to give it another go this week. Firstly they have done a cracking job on the refurb. Nice reception and bar area and the rooms are all neat and tidy, a vast change since my last visit. My first night I had a great nights sleep however the same can't be said about the second night. Hoards of students shouting and banging doors until the early hours of the morning led to a restless night. I spoke with other guests in the morning who said exactly the same. Plenty of parking available but at £10 a night, it's a bit steep when you can park on the road outside for free if space available. Only two minute walk into town as well. I'll probably give it another go though.
I have spent a great deal of time at the Best Western Crystal Palace, and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. My experience has been lovely I will start off with the managers, Wajith, has been the best since I have been here, he is understanding takes time to listen. Then we have Rahman who I am allowed to call Raymondo he loves it he is also a caring manager. My third is Murtaza who has newly joined the team he has wonderful customer service he always has a good morning, good afternoon along with the other two managers he has a caring heart and listens very well to your needs. All managers help in different ways need with customers or colleagues if needs be. always polite, smartly dressed never too busy to listen. Next are the reception staff sorry to say my favourite is Bianca she has detention to detail she gives all information required to the customers, very informative as well with a lovely smile. then we have Egzona who is also very quiet but has a smile at all times, then Maria and Aline who are both new and in training have lovely mannerisms and very good with the customers. then we have Natalia who is also a quite member of staff that is very helpful. we also have Muhammad who does nights he is a wonderful guy. nothing is ever too big for him, even if he is busy, he will make time to attend and assist you with whatever you need. Christina who works in the bar very good she is also another quite member of staff which is not a bad thing. next are my housemaids my favourite is Nicoletta and Yonica, Emma and Mihaela are my best housemaids all have detention to detail when I leave my room for it to be cleaned it is spotless when I come back. Porters and maintenance Alex Nico, Kamil, Mirel, are all great men when I have had a problem they have come and dealt with it straight away. the one disadvantage is the evening food menu it is crap please get it sorted it would be nice to have a dessert after my meal (Head office please sort it out Prompt) Al the staff that does the catering are very understanding i.e. Shahul and Raj along with the other staff.
Only stayed here for one night but will definitely return, The hotel was huge, very helpful staff at reception, made us feel really welcome. The room was beautiful, small but cozy. Very clean and tidy, the bed was so comfortable that I didn't want to leave the next morning. The hotel is in a good location and not far from central London. Looking forward to my next visit
Rooms were new and looked great. No complaints about the rooms whatsoever. Beds were comfy and plenty of channels to watch on the television. The only downside was the was no reception for your phones in the rooms. My phone always shows 1 bar. Even the wifi wasn't strong enough. Location wise, there is a bus stop outside the hotel and also further in front. 2 metros are also nearby around 10-15 mins of walking. Overall I'm satisfied with my stay here.
My son was for a few days in the hotel. The room (3 persons) was well equipped and the breakfast had various choice. Returned at home, he realized that he had forgotten his teddybear. So we've made late in the evening an email to ask if somebody had found it. The next day the receptionist manager confirmed us that the teddy was found. Now, a week later, Teddy arrived at home. i am very grateful of the service of the staff from hotel.
The staff wherever i met them, whether it was in the lobby, or at breakfast were smiley, friendly and efficient. Hotel rooms recently refurbished and are nice and clean. Parking bays are a bit narrow but serves the purpose. Will recommend
The hotel is nice clean with modern rooms. We really enjoyed the dinner as the food was really tasty. The breakfast is really busy but I loved the English breakfast and plenty of buffet with croissants, cereals, bread, butter, jam, juices and coffee etc. Will definitely stay again.
Check in: unfriendly, hap-hazard and clumsy. Rooms: curtains don't fit windows, noisy fan heaters, fit extra beds and reduce room space, work desks impractical for working, walls like tissue paper... Breakfast... go to weatherspoons down the road cos far better. Staff generally unhelpful and unfriendly.
It was excellent everything. Comfortable bad and clean room. Room's are small but enough space for stuff and move. A lot of food for English breakfast and other. Stuff was very kind. Drink was cheap. Good coffee
Reception staff are awful,no manners at all.Did not have electricity for couple of hours in my room, complained and nobody cared. Worst internet in a hotel i have encountered so far. Bad smelling room and corridors.
I would stay again. Felt refreshed and it didnt leave too much of a big dent in my bank balance. The room was well equipped. Stock replenished when asked and the bed was so comfortable. Best 3 nights sleep Ive ever had. Express check out. Mohammed checked me in and he was so helpful. Cons... Took a while to check in as there was only one member of staff. £10 per night parking. Theyre my only 2 issues.
Checked in and was in my room for around 10 mins when the door opened and in walks 2 other guests with their luggage, after a bit of shock and confused faces i went to reception and explained the situation and was met with absolutley baffled looks by the staff on duty they then proceeded to whisper amongst themselves whilst i stood there they then handed the key back and said "its ok now" no apology or explaination. Then around an hour later another staff member came to my room and said id parked my car in a restricted area I CAME BY TRAIN!!! So yet again a room mix up had happened just hours apart. Anyway ....i go out for the eve come back worse for wear but not paraletic, jump in bed wake up next morn check out cant find expensive headphones ...report to hotel manager and am told by him he cant help in anyway despite the fact that other key cards had been programmed to my room ...they were the only item in the room worth any money and the only thing missin g ...and before you say it Yes i checked the room inside out before i left they were not in the room!! Very undertrained staff who have no buissness running a hotel
As the title says one of the best value for money. Can't fault the services, room or location. To our pleasant surprise they even had a quote on the wall which I throughly enjoyed being there. Also the bathroom is exceptional when compared to others in the price range
My partner and I were staying here for 2 nights to attend a nearby event. First impressions were good, the lobby area was having some refurbishment but still looked nice. The reception staff were lovely albeit rather rushed off their feet! We were given room 122 which was a shock; the room was TINY. A cupboard of an ensuite no windows , it was awful.Other family members booked after us and had a decent room so we were not happy! we complained but were told that the hotel was fully booked therefore could not move to a better room. they did, however move us the next day when we asked. Our second room was much better, more space and windows! We were under the impression that there was a restaurant as it is stated on the website, so we planned to eat at the hotel before going out, unfortunately there was no provision for this so we did not eat that evening. We chose the English Breakfast the next day which I think was £8.95 each but the continental one looked much better. That evening we rang for a local takeaway and asked the hotel if they could supply us with cutlery and plates. we had to go to reception to pick them up and they were paper plates and plastic knives and forks! On the plus side the rooms were spotkessly clean , cannot fault that at all. The staff also were helpful, but as I stated they were very busy so we had a wait each time we needed them. I wouldnt stay again in this particuar hotel again even though the price is good.
Was pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel was or certainly has the potential to be. Parking was a little issue however once I found a spot, my vehicle didn't move again until my departure. I stayed in room 57 on the ground floor. The room was quite compact however very clean and tidy as well as being nicely furnished. The bed was comfortable. My only issue came when a large party of French school kids checked in late evening and then proceeded to slam doors shut and generally were very noisy. This caused me to ring reception twice and eventually they quietened down. As a result of these French visitors breakfast was chaotic in the morning. I would stay here again without doubt, however I would stress to the management that a large number of working customers staying in the hotel who should be respected a bit more. If you are accommodating large groups of teenagers they should all be put on one floor away from people who need a bit of rest.
Room was well priced and was clean and comfortable. I was on the fourth floor at the back so had issues connecting to the internet but other than that was great. I checked in early and 12.00 check out is so much beter than what other hotels offer.
Stayed for one night and I had a room on the lower floor. I'd say the room I was in had been recently renovated and it was pleasant enough nice big tv was a clean bathroom. Room was a bit chilly but the heating was pretty good so it warmed up quite quickly. The hall leading to the room was very cold. Unfortunately my room was under the dining area so there was the noise of chairs being moved. For breakfast I had a full breakfast which I assumed was going to be a buffet type but it wasn't. Which was okay for me as there were plenty of pastry's etc I could have saved some money and just had the continental option. Now the parking in the hotel grounds is £10 per day however after a little walk right beside the hotel there was plenty of free parking which I wish I'd noticed before. All in all was a good stay.
The room was very nice decorated, the employees were very helpful and also the cleaning team were very kind. Everyone was smiling and willing to help in any way. The hotel was located in a quiet area and in addition close to the bus stop were we were taking the bus for the station.
Currently using this hotel for 4 members of staff for several weeks. 2nd week in and already been a nightmare. Reception never answer the phone and if they do, are completely unhelpful and keep you holding on forever. No enthusiasm in their voices whatsoever. Paid for 3 weeks accommodation through Head office Best Western by credit card but when staff arrived the next week they were refused entry saying that the rooms hadn't been paid for even though they had all their booking references? They then processed another payment and I am still waiting for Head office to come back to me to confirm this has not been taken twice.
Really good value. Old but partially renovated hotel. Far from the center but not bad linked. 30 minutes from the hotel to London Bridge. The neighborhood is calm and safe. Rooms are not big and could be cleaner.
We stayed here for one night (in a family room). It was cheap, cheerful and very good. I would stay here again. The important things: the room was clean, beds comfortable and we had no noise problems (possibly as we were on the top floor). When we got out of the lift on the 4th floor, the corridors were dark and dismal. When we opened the door to our room, I thought “oh!” - but don't worry. It was fine. Our children liked it. I've taken photos so you can judge for yourself. A lot depends on the price you pay - our room was very good value (under £60). There are tea & coffee making facilities in the room. Parking at the hotel is £10/night which I don't recall being advertised when I booked. There is a sign up at the entrance to the car park asking people not to park on the road for the sake of local residents. I understand that but it is perfectly legal to park on the road and we did, in a side road, a minute's walk away. Finding a space there was easy. There were no advertised restrictions - I could have left it parked there all day, any day. Had I done that for longer than one day then I would have moved it in order not to irritate residents. A side-effect of the £10/night parking policy appears to be that there were lots of parking spaces at the hotel even late at night - an advantage if you are arriving late. The hotel is a bit of a rabbit warren - I checked out the route from our room to two alternative fire exits. I suggest doing that for the sake of your family. I do it in every hotel. The hotel is undergoing renovation. I heard no noise even during the day. The communal areas (lobby, dining room) were light and modern. Dining room chairs had padded arms which were filthy due to customers with dirty hands - simply not the best choice of chair for a dining room. Reception and breakfast staff couldn't be faulted. Everyone was courteous and helpful. Breakfast was 5p under £9, £7 and £5 (full English plus continental too; continental; and a bagged takeaway called “Grab & Go” respectively). Though paying for this was offered when we booked online, I simply paid at breakfast instead - no need to book in advance. Kids eat free - we only paid for myself and my wife. The breakfast's fresh fruit salad included melon - unlike some hotels (thank you, Best Western). There is also ham and salami in a fridge, and yoghurts - I tell you as they are easy to miss because they are down the far end. I recommend this hotel. I'd stay here again without question (though a lot depends on how much you pay).
We were two families with young children staying at this hotel. On arrival at this hotel there was no ramp only steps so we had to carry two strollers all our luggage and both babies up the steps with out any offer of help from the staff. My husband and his uncle initially spoke to the ladies on reception at first they couldn't find our booking they were cold and short with them as if it was our mistake. They found us in the end and rooms were assigned. We asked for help with the bags which was provided. The “family” room we were assigned was down deep in the basement. My husband followed the staff member helping with the bags and I took the stroller and the baby in the elevator expecting to be able to meet them. But the elevation didn't go that far down. It was a complete maze And I couldn't carry the baby and the stoller down all the steps so my history had to literally come and find me. When we got to the “family” room it had 3 single beds in it. Non of which a baby could sleep safely in. My husband and I sgrowe needed a different room so I looked for a phone to call reception, there was no phone. I went back up to the desk where I was met by two stone faced receptionist. I smiled and explained the difficulty with the access to the room with a stroller and the bed arrangement. I apologised for being a pain and asked if they had a more suitable room available. Not once did they smile or show that they understood our circumstances one of them actually sighed as she was searching. Then they found another room and said we had to bring all our stuff back to reception and then we could get the key. There was no offer to send someone to help and she said “oh by the way the phone in that room doesn't work do you still want it” so I told her that it was an upgrade as we didn't even have a phone in the first room. Throughout our whole stay not once did a member of staff say good morning or smile all the receptionist looked very miserable and I noticed them being short and rude to other guests. One gentleman asked for directions and was spoken to very slowly and loudly like he was stupid. But you literally needed directions if you're room was in the basement. We ate breakfast there everyday (the food was actually nice enough) the same staff member took our recipts and explained the same thing each day like a robot even though we clearly remembered where to go by day 3. There was just no effort to be personable by any of the staff members. I did actually complain to a manager who apologised and said he would speak to them. I just feel no matter how affordable a hotel is you still expect professionalism and friendly customer service and you will not receive that at this hotel.
Hotel and room was clean and the renovations seem near an end. The staff were in general helpful and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and the shower worked as it should. Safety deposit box worked well in the room and tea/coffee making facilities were good.
Accommodation adequate, breakfast slightly disappointing Be aware that parking and breakfast are additional to room price Excellent location for National sports Centre Evening Pizzas were the highlight and very reasonably priced
I booked the room online for a superior double. When I checked into the hotel they told me they no longer had any superior rooms left but only twins. After all the confusion another receptionist put me in room 460...I'm sure this room wasn't meant to be occupied as the first receptionist was sure there were no doubles available and kept pointing to a sheet of paper which was highlighted. When I finally got the key I spent a good 20mins walking around aimlessly for the room without any help or directions in such a huge hotel! When I found the room the air con was on full blast so when I walked in it was so hot. After trying to figure out how to turn the air conditioning down and getting into bed...the wind outside was so bad I then realised the window was open. The window was in fact broken and wouldn't close. I spent all night awake trying to sleep but the noise from the wind made all doors bang constantly all night. Worst nights sleep in a hotel ever!
Booked a room online for one night only, on arriving at hotel it looked quite impressive, obviously, recently been decorated outside. Inside, the reception area was ery clean and modern, good impressions so far. Staff on desk were pleasant, but I found them asking for photo id for both my husband and I, bit intrusive, althougth I know sercurity is important, but never been asked for photo id before. We booked a superior room online, given our key to Room 1029, was told that it was on the lower floor, i.e Basement. Trying to find the room was like going through a maze of corridors and stairs. The signage was very poor. once finding the room, was very disappointed. Considering this was suppose to be a 'superior' room, would not like to see a standard room. There was only about 2 feet around the bed, which was quite comfy and the bathroom was nice and modern. If we were staying more than one night I would have certainly complained and asked to be moved to a 'superior' room, which we booked for.
Rooms 508 and 402 I Came to London with my fiancée and future mother in law to see family before the wedding. We arrived on 6th March 2019 for a five night stay and the check in procedure took about 35 minutes and that was from being seen, I think the system was down but it should of been explained as it seemed the staff had no clue what they were doing as other guests was talking about the same issue in the queue at reception. When we was given our rooms we was 4 floors apart from each other and the view from our room was a construction site with scaffolding and old furniture which we went to speak to reception about and got a room change straight away and was only 1 room apart and there was a few issues in both of the rooms for instance the lights in the rooms don't face onto the mirrors so it's difficult to put your make up on, the air conditioning in 402 didn't work and we was given a small heater that made noise and didn't really do the job, there was plug sockets hanging off the walls, kettle and lamps that didn't work. On the second night the room next to our our room had a party with teenagers all standing on the balcony that is used as a fire exit and making a lot of noise and because the phone in our room didn't work and when we tried calling reception from our mobile there was no answer from reception so the only alternative was to call my future mother in law to get her to call reception from her room phone to complain about the noise, security was sent up to the room and the guests were removed from the hotel. All the staff in the hotel was willing to help with any situation but I think there needs to be a lot more training as there is no communication from the receptionist and the guest during check in.
Currently a bit of a building site and the common areas are pretty down at heel. The rooms are clean and pretty average, but as expected for the £50 a night room rate. My biggest gripe is that having booked my room through booking.com the first I heard of their £10 daily parking charge was when I checked in. I consider this to be pretty sharp practice. If you want to levy a 20 percent extra charge on the room rate to park then at least have the decency to clearly flag it up either on booking or at the very least send an email with the charges clearly marked before the reservation date. The front of house showed me the several areas I would have had to click through online to discover this nice little earner for the hotel, so it is there but you would need the knowledge, experience and a lot of patience to discover it. Come on Best Western, this hotel is not close to any train or tube station and a lot of your guests are going to come by car, so just be open about the charge so people can make a considered decision without have to scroll through multiple screens to find out the truth. The manager ‘helpfully' said I could park on the streets if I preferred, but I lived near here for 40 years and know that leaving your car on the street in Crystal Palace overnight is not a safe bet, even if you can find a space. I really hate discovering extra charges on checking into a hotel and do feel I have been treated as a cash cow by Best Western. I won't be spending my money with them in the future. If you are thinking of staying here I would strongly advise you factoring in this additional cost before making your decision.
I was in room 701 and had to leave the hotel early due to the noise of the wooden flooring and basement area where this room was located - You could hear every foot step! What I did not expect to hear, was the room next to me clearly being used for sex workers with different men attending and leaving throughout the evening! I could hear absolutely everything! I advised the reception staff who did not understand anything that I was saying. I did not even get offered another room! Will never be staying here again for work commitments nor do i recommend this hotel to anybody!
Feb to Mar 2019 Staff - They were very helpful and friendly. Staffs like Muhammad at the reception and Chef Shahul made our stay there a delight! Cleanliness - Housekeeping was good but they can certainly improve on a few things. Food - Good breakfast spread. Indian/Chinese takeaways are 5 mins away. Location - Great if you're going to central London regularly. Transport - Buses and Trains are available to travel to central London in less than an hour.
Really reception looks quite good and staff was really healful. They are very good performing an update and there are quite a lot of people doing things at the hotel to upgrade. Bath was a little bit small because there is not so much space, for me wasn't so bad but if there are more than one is small Related to the room there is not any standard windows and they're 3 beds where means there is not so much space and the curiosity of the room is the roof windows that there have a possibility to cover in order to not have light at night. Something quite common in all hotels at London is the way from reception to the rooms, it is a maze. In the breakfast, I taken a English breakfast where mushrooms wasn't so much cook and sausage wasn't normal quality but rest was perfect but overpaid
Appearance of hotel was nice. Unable to access main reception as works still being carried out, had to use side entrance to gain access and there was no ramp for disabled so had to climb stairs, parking was charged at £10 per day so had to use side road and you were lucky if you could get a parking space anyway as not many spaces. Halls to rooms were narrow and dark so need more lighting, room was clean, modern and smelt fresh and adequate for our needs. Had an issue with noise (banging) and reported it but nothing was done about it (there is a lot of noise in this hotel) plus alarm went off at 7.30 one morning. Cleaners enter your room to clean when your not there. Not much food choice in restaurant so had takeout. Spit was seen by stairs at side entrance so be careful where you step and place your luggage. Would not stay here again.
An impressive building a short walk from the busy High Street. When we stayed (February 2019)there was building work going on to the reception area so we had to enter up some shabby concrete steps, which was a bad start. As we were out all day the building noise didn't bother us but I wouldn't have liked to spend much time in my room. Both parking and breakfast were extra, which added to the cost.We paid extra for a superior room, but I don't believe it was superior. It was adequate for our needs and we will use it again.
The hotel is currently having building work done so entry is via a side passage filled with building materials and painting equipment. Poor access for anyone carrying anything other than a medium sized suitcase. I arrived as a group of 20 plus guests arrived. There were only three people on reception so check in took over 20 mins. The hotel is built on 3 or 4 levels and I was given a room in the basement. The room numbering system is confusing and directions not clear. I spent another 15 minutes wondering through an underground warren of corridors trying to find my room only to find that my key card didn't work on the door. I then spent another 10 mins trying to find my way back to reception, waited another 10 minutes to get a second card reset. This was followed by another 10 minutes trying to find my room again…to find the key didn't work again. Another 10 mins spent going back to reception and queuing again. Finally I got into my room. The curtains didn't close fully and light streamed in from the fluorescents outside. Small things but there were no coat hangers and no hairdryer. Generally the hotel décor is old and tired, a wash of modern grey paint and cheap thick carpet cannot mask it's age or half-hearted attempts to modernise on the cheap. The walls are thin, not thick enough to remotely baffle the sounds of an energetic and enthusiastic couple having sex next door for around 30 minutes. Full credit to the male in that partnership though who demonstrated remarkable stamina and stating power. After a disturbed night's sleep breakfast was also substandard. The continental buffet of stale pastries and an unimaginative fruit bowl was complimented by a bowl of porridge whose milk has barely touched the raw oats…oh and don't forget you need to get a ticket from reception in order to get breakfast at all. This minor detail was omitted from my far from friendly welcome the day before.
I stayed there in August 2018. The bedroom was quite small. They were doing repairs and renovating the hotel so the stairs were covered with tapes etc... But overall it was a good hotel, breakfast was pretty good and it was clean. You should be aware that it is situated at almost 20 minutes from central London by car!
Lots of building work going on, elevators not working all over the place, unhelpful staff, I'm sure there was someone dealing drugs from the front of the hotel and there were certainly a lot of people smoking them outside the hotel entrance. To top it all, I'm also fairly certain that the hotel was being used by local prostitutes to 'service' their clients. Will never go back and would recommend you avoid it.
Hotel was under renovation. Front door to Hotel was not in use. Alot of hammering going on, even on a Saturday and a Sunday. No wi-fi in the room. Room very small (173) but clean. Signs to room numbers were wrong. Reception staff not very friendly and a slow check-in process. The bar was very small and not a great atmosphere. Alot of noise coming from people talking outside our window all night.
I came to this hotel with my family when we checked in the receptionist was quite rude asking for all our id I explained my husband didn't have any and she said it's in hotel policy I checked right there and then and was nothing on the web site to attend this which I showed her and she didn't even look was more bothered about taking my parking money we then went to our room my husband had a shower and the whole bathroom flooded when we came back downstairs and informed them it leaked and also that WiFi not working the answer was we are under refunishment which we understood but it's not alway the answer to be cut off with so we had no WiFi the whole stay it's not as close to London centre as you think it's ok Getting down to the station but a steep hill to walk back there is a few nice restaurants around the hotel but the staff really need training on customer service and to remember that's the first thing a guest remembers the rude receptionist would not return due to rude staff
Stayed here for a long weekend with the family. This was purely going to be a base for us whilst we went into London centre each day. The hotel was fantastic, clean and spacious. We had a family room which was very well equipped and very light and had plenty of plug sockets in all the needed places which was brilliant. The staff were amazing and very helpful, they seemed to go the extra step to help whenever possible. We will use this hotel again as it was well positioned for all our needs with lots if shops and restaurants near by too.
I stayed in one of your newly refurbished hotels few days ago and can honestly say the experience of staying was amazing!Staff were friendly, helpful and well-trained! I'm absolutely satisfied with the cleanliness of reception area and the room, also. The 2nd floor was quiet nice ambience to work from my room. However, internet service was very weak.Parking was £10/night :-/
We booked a 'Premium' room at additional cost only to find that there was both a double and single bed. I'm willing to accept this may be a booking error, but the fact that there were only two adults on the booking should have been a clue. There was so little space in the room that we had to edge sideways to get in and out of bed!I could have forgiven this but there was also no hot water; and we were unable to take a shower.Disappointing...
My room was extremely clean and comfortable and the bathroom modern and quite spacious. The only problem was the weak Wi-Fi signal. The location is not that bad but be prepared to walk a little bit if you need to regularly visit central London. Crystal Palace Station is a 10 minutes walk - which includes walking uphill on your return - from the hotel but there is a bus option if that is too much for you.
This was great for us working (fast free WiFi) as well as walking around the crystal palace area. The staff are all friendly and helpful, best of all the breakfast bacon is top notch as is the vegetarian hot breakfast, and we had an excellent dinner which can be ordered at the bar and comes served on a tray wrapped in foil so you can have it in your room or in the sumptuous lounge area - it was a reasonable price too. They have a photocopier and staff also don't mind printing for you. Beds are comfortable, everything is clean and well designed. Will stay again often. A gentleman from Bangladesh and one from India were particularly helpful, but everyone is helpful from the cleaner to the highest manager with his funny stories :)
Location took primary choice as we needed to be in Crystal Palace.Works being undertaken upon our visit and staff members weren't always apparent. No greeting or smiles. Very efficient staff, proud to own job but not what you'd say were warm or friendly when you smiled or said hello.Best Western I know their brand and this hotel at current falls very short of standards in hospitality.May try in 6 months to view any improvements.Lights over bed in ceiling leave a mild spot light over pillows, some may view as annoying
I loved to stay at the Best Western Hotel. Most of their hotels allow dog stays. The prices are Good, always have offers. The rooms are always clean. The services is up to the high standards. Breakfasts have lots to offer but not the gluten free stuff...
Amazing service at the reception, bar and restaurant! Second time staying here and really happy with the service! Rooms are clean tidy and hotel has a safe feeling about it! Looking forward to my next stay here and would advice anyone to speak to Natalia if you have any issue! All my love Charlie
Hotel newly renovated hotel, nice and clean. Staff was very helpful from check in till check out. Buffet breakfast penalty choices, quite a big restaurant sitting area. Only had a problem with parking had to wait to get the space,
Stayed for 3 nights for a last minute booking. The heating makes a loud windy sound when on and takes over 3 hours before it warms up. The TV has a black shadow going through the middle, so you dont get a clear picture. The staff are friendly and the reception area is very nice. Not sure i would stay at the hotel again, but for a last minute booking it was okay.
hotel staff are polite and friendly, the walk to the room was quite far and the room was basic but functional a very nice bed and bathroom. As long as you expect a no frills hotel this is great. parking is extra but we didnt need it
I run a Theatre company a one of the main reasons of what I look for in booking is good parking. This hotel charged us £10 without any mention of this on the website, they just advertise parking as a bonus. I have resorted to Tripadvisor as trying to find on email address for any Best Western is like panning for gold.
“Very Nice Stay" I spent one night at the hotel and it was really nice, great staff and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom could be a little bigger but overall very clean. Hotel General Manager Mr Khan was very welcoming and accommodating, we will absolutely coming back soon.
Stayed here for a night for a two day London trip. Basic but ok. Our shower did not drain great so more than a few minute shower would have flooded thw bathroom. One negative was that when we arrive (admittedly it was 10pm) our room was freeezing! Not great when trying to quickly was and put to wash and bed to tired, worn out children. They were freezing! Would have been nice if the heating had been put on to at least take the chill off. We didnt have breakfast so cannot comment. Was tricky trying to find a space but my husband managed to find one down a side street...but be warned....double check as lots of cars around with tickets....even in hotel carpark!
“Excellent value for money and staff really helpful. Location was perfect for us to watch a match at the crystal palace ground. Although we walked, buses were also running from outside the hotel toward the train station. Rooms are newly refurbished and comfortable. Will surely come back.
Lovely clean and spacious room, Comfy bed...breakfast service was good. The manager was very welcoming...had a chat with him at the reception when I arrived. He was very helpful even after I checked out... I will recommend...and I'll stay at this hotel again.
Hi all, I booked this hotel for my parents to stay. All as should be, quick and easy check-in/out, rooms recently renovated (new bathrooms its what they liked most), TV/AC working fine, quiet with no problems. Interior themed with Crystal Palace character. Overall VERY GOOD!
Stayed over Christmas period, had a lovely meal at the restauranti, good transport links and good connection to the centre. The neighbourhood was full of good restaurants and bars. Room was big and clean. Reception friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money.
Thank You so much for a great stay, rooms were comfortable and spacious.staff really friendly and helpful, many thanks to Fasih and Rahman, always welcoming us and a great atitudine, breakfast was more than we could have asked for.look forward to seeing You again.
Stayed here twice in 1 week. First visit was really impressed with the standard for the very low price I paid. Hallways and surrounding areas a little scruffy but was pleasantly suprised with my room. Loved it.Second visit.... not so good. Was put in one of the basement rooms. Really unpleasant hallways, generally dreary and a bit neglected down there BUT actual room was very clean and OK to sleep in.
A pleasant stay visiting family in the area. The room was clean, the bed comfortable with good linen. Lack of ventilation resulted in condensation and needs to be addressed. Very good location in the CP triangle. We had parking for the entire stay.
I wouldn't recommend this building site. They are clearly refurbishing and unlike other companies who would refurbish a floor at a time they are currently refurbishing EVERYWHERE. We booked a superior room which was absolutely tiny. Nothing like the pictures. They have clearly tried to cram as many rooms as possible in the building which doesn't do it any justice. We were then transferred to the double room which had more space but, wasn't what we had paid for. Whilst there, there were builders everywhere plastic on the carpet everywhere the building just looked a shambles! The parking is also another joke. The tiniest car parks possible. A lot of those who do stay are builders which then meant the vans were taking more than one space. They have also blocked off the rest of the parking around the back due to the ridiculous refurb they're doing. So beware as parking on the road is also very busy and due to the area there are lots of break-ins. They have roughly 25 spots for 300 plus rooms. Staff were ok but, didn't look like they enjoyed working there. I also feel that they have tried to name it something different but, just because the name has changed doesn't mean it's any better!!
If I could give a zero rating I would. This has got to be one of the worst hotels I've had the misfortune of staying in and I honestly should have paid attention to the reviews before I booked but we were a little desperate as we were attending an event close by. On arrival, one could be deceived by the somewhat grand looking exterior bit this is all this place has going for it. Had to fight our way through some unscrupulous looking beings hanging around outside and smoking to get to the reception. The hotel was being renovated so work men and tools everywhere (9pm) . Unfriendly receptionist, it was a maze and finding our room took forever. Also not wheelchair friendly. We booked a family room which was literally a box room with an extra bed. You couldn't swing a cat in there. It's December so it was cold outside and thanks to the single glazed windows, queens hotel brought the outdoors in. Wasn't the most pleasant of sleeps as the kids were cold. I could go on and on but I'm sure you get the gist. Except there's absolutely no where else in London, avoid this hotel.
We booked in here to stay the night whilst visiting a concert locally. Pros: Room was quite nice - clean and new It was cheap for London Good location for food/bars etc Looks nice from outside Comfy bed Cons: Room key didn't work (4 times!!) There was a strange smell from air con vent There was building work going on £10 for parking.... Reception staff lifeless and slow Another guest went to enter his hotel room next to ours and there was already an occupant in there! Slightly concerning burn mark con on corner of air con unit vent
I want to know on what planet do you think THIS is acceptable? Not only did you put us in a room right next to a building site with constant noise, but we were woken repeatedly through the night by drunk neighbours arguing. Presumably builders. Then when we rang reception NOBODY ANSWERED. My family had a terrible nights sleep and to top it all off this morning my son opened the door and walked down the steps to our room straight into tripping over bags of total rubble and breeze blocks left by your builders. When I complained your staff didn't want to hear about it or offer an apology. Now is your chance to explain yourselves Reservation Amy Bell room 001
Smokers heaven, horrible experience , Just awful, parking was such a problem, spent nearly an hour trying to find a place to park and staffs will refer you to the little prints on your booking if you complain about parking issues , i will never ever return there in the future .
The hotel is undergoing a revamp and construction work is required, hence the current difficulties with the scenario of the place. Check in is a somewhat trying experience, but London's way of doing things is a little different to other parts of the UK.
Appalling service, rude general manager, constant construction work. Stayed 1 night only and moved rooms twice due to ongoing refurbishment teething issues (no toilet flush, then no cold tap, then woke up to a non working shower). Manager was rude, unhelpful, arrogant and refused to listen to the issues we had with our stay. AVOID!!!!!
Absolutely disgusting place to stay!! We arrived to be told we needed to pay for our room yet had already do so on the website, this wouldn't have been an issue at all if we where told properly and in a friendly manner. The website stated parking however we had to pay £10 extra (not stated on the website) and didn't have an actual parking space but had to park horizontal in front of the building itself. The reception staff where absolutely appalling! So rude and unhelpful, would have stayed somewhere else but it was too late in the night to find somewhere, the only time he smiled at us was when he took our money!! Got into the room which itself wasn't too bad, only to look at, tried to have a shower and it was broke, towel not bit enough, freezing in the bathroom and the hose had come unattached from the shower head and just sprayed water into the bathroom so had to fix this myself, the toilet roll holder was broken, the bed had a hole in the matters, heating very hard to use. Finishing touches not done very well, tv wonky on the wall, markings all down the walls. Extra charge for breakfast so went elsewhere after the awful customer service we received, banging and loud noises through the night with the constant sound of running water. Would NEVER stay here again, even if we where paid to do so!!
I stayed at this hotel for 1 night with my partner. On arrival we found the front of house staff to be very rude. Our room was large enough for 1 night and had tea and coffee making facilities. Due to refurbishment the room had an odd odour and the staircase and lift resembled a building site. A ten pounds charge to park left us in no doubt we would not be returning any time soon. Poor at best
I asked at the reception if I could book a room for just me and was told no and that there were no rooms available.when I asked why was this, The gentleman at the front desk then said I could not book a room at the front desk like that and that if I needed a room, I would need to book online, which I thought was a bit odd. So, does that mean if I book online there would be rooms but if i'm standing in front of you there isn't? I must remember never to get stranded outside the Queen hotel again..
This is a lovely building but I think it needs to be more "up front" about charges and sort out some room based, "style over content" issues in the recently refurbished ones. Parking is £10 per night but not stated until it's too late. Similarly with breakfast charges which varied greatly from the published rates. We ordered an above ground double room, but got a subterranean three single bedded one!! The room I had, had been recently refurbished which was good, but it had several "style over content" issues because of this. All underground rooms are lit via the usual lighting systems, but also constantly via a very brightly lit, "pretend" window showing Tower Bridge. So you CANNOT possibly sleep, unless you remove the key card from the power slot at the door, which then kills ALL power to the room, not just the lights. So my phone, that I thought I was charging up, was dead in the morning, which was a major issue. The hooks in the bathroom are very pretty to look at, but useless. The sink's equally swish looking plug, is similarly pretty, but useless and empties the sink in seconds whether in place or not. As I say, all very pretty, but NOT very helpful. The rate was very good, but if at a more "normal" rate, I'm sorry, but this place would be too much of a nightmare to use again. It is a lovely place, has SO much potential and so convenient for the city. But just be more honest about charges and then sort out the room issues and you have a chance of being a real winner.
My friends and I were in London for a weekend. We were so excited to visit this beautiful city but everything did not happen as we had imagined. We had taken a room for three. The hotel was very clean and pretty, our room too. There was no window in our room, it was in the basement. So it was very annoying because we could not see outside. Another problem is the electrical outlet. We are French, so we need an adapter to charge our phone and the hotel did not have one. So we went to buy some, but when we got home, we realized that the electrical outlets were not working. The wifi also did not work. it was really a bad experience but we nevertheless enjoyed our trip.
First of all the place is under construction which is a good thing. But they need to up their game big time! First, no wash cloths. The towels are like sandpaper. There's no soap, just a gel in a container marked shampoo. There are ants and bugs in the bathrooms. While I was in bed, an insect fell from the ceiling onto my chest. The beds were made up nicely, but the sheets were not changed. Tissues boxes were not refilled. I really don't consider myself picky, but I do expect the minimum. I would never recommend anyone to stay here, nor will I ever return. Could be a nice place but they need some lessons in general hospitality.
the hotel is quite nice and cozy, clean rooms, simple, easy to find, we had continental breakfast included in the offer, were good and with many choices, AC in the room, everyday changing of the lingerie, fresh towels every each day, there is a bus stop less than 50 meters away from the hotel, you can get easily to crystal palace train station by walking 1 km and commute to central London in approx 50 mins ps: very friendly staff
Stayed for 2 nights with my family. What an improvement from 10years ago. Understandably, we were forewarned about the construction work taking part on sight prior to us completing our booking. Beautifully decorated room & building, reliable room service & friendly staff. Well worth the price.
lots of construction work that looks to be nowhere near complete, long walk to our room, through narrow halls and up very old narrow stairs. finally found the room and OMG very small,. paper thin walls as I could here the people in the next room like they were standing beside me. At night guests are rude, slamming doors and running from one room to the other.. 2 Tube stations which are both about 15 minutes walk, plenty small cafes and general shops which are all within 5 minutes walk, About 45 minutes into central London. , quiet honestly I would advise to stay clear as its too far out of the way and just not worth the money.
need to stay a night away, booking was easy, however, i had to change the booking as i had the date wrong, it was very easy to do as i booked on the booking.com webpage, and advised that bookings cant be changed. i contacted the reception and they were very kind and understanding. The room was clean, with the essentials, o had a decent night sleep, the only issue was that the hotel has a smell of damp and smoke even if the room is a no smoking one.
