"Afternoon Tea"

SandraMules1967, Wirral, United Kingdom 30/04/2022

Visited for a precooked afternoon tea and have to say we were not disappointed! Really cheerful and very enjoyable! Especially the scones! We will be back as we couldn't fault our afternoon! Thank you!

"First trip out of Lockdown!"

3
proficiscor, London 04/09/2021

Since June 2021 I have stayed in 7 hotels/guesthouses across England and so I am well placed to compare the facilities and service we have experienced in this post-lockdown period. Three of these were booked through Secret Escapes and The Richmond was the first of these. I went with a friend for a 3 night stay to explore Liverpool. We had a decent deal so booked a double room each even though there was no single discount. First impressions were good as I had requested rooms near each other and we were actually the only 2 in a tiny corridor off of the main corridor. We found all the staff to be helpful and friendly. Breakfast was fine if a little chaotic – but this has been common to most of the hotels as they struggle with new staff after an exodus of the experienced staff. My room was comfortable and the bed was big. I am always concerned that the room should be well ventilated and not too hot. The air conditioning didn't seem to be working but there were two big fans provided in the room and you could open the window. My friend reported that she found it difficult to sleep on the first night because of street noise but I had no issues with this. There is a night porter to let you in if you are out late – which you are bound to be if you explore the Cavern Quarter, and the hotel is well placed for this as everything is a walk away. My only problem was that the safe had been left locked so I couldn't use it. I reported this to reception on the first day and was told a maintenance operative would see to it but nothing happened. I reported it again on the second day but with the same result so gave up after that. Liverpool itself is great.

"Dirty mattress protector"

2
User 28/08/2021

After pulling back the sheet to put my anti allergy protector on I was horrified as the mattress protector on the bed was filthy had stains on it to! bearing in mind that things should be ultra clean with Covid I was shocked. As it was very late in the evening I had to try and sleep. I took photos and showed them to reception in the morning. They were apologetic and asked me to email the pictures. I have and so far have not received a reply . Very disappointed. It is with this in mind that I have rated low!

"Seagulls ruined my stay!"

2
User 20/08/2021

A broken bed, tv with no signal, a room like the inferno from hell, air con that wasn't cold that took an hour to get working...topped off with all the seagulls of the world descending on the alley outside the hotel to indulge in a battle royale. All. Night. Long. Pest control required.

"Great food shame about the atmosphere"

JenMozz18, York 16/08/2021

Visited The Richmond Hotel with my friend. We had a voucher from Groupon for a three course meal with a bottle of wine. I was pleased when we saw the outside of the building as it looked very smart. Once we went in we were a bit ignored by the hotel staff as tried to work out where the restaurant was. Once we found it we were warmly welcomed by the staff and shown to our table. The restaurant was nicely decorated but lacked any real atmosphere as it was quite brightly lit and I don't remember any music being played. The menu was very nice with a wide variety of choices. My friend and I both chose the same starters and mains. Asparagus with Hollandaise and chorizo topped with a crispy egg. This was delicious and the crispy egg with runny middle was really wonderful. Main was pork with heritage carrots and parsley mash and jus. Really really tasty. I had a lemon brûlée tart and my friend had a pistachio dessert served in an edible plant pot. We didn't have much choice for our wings as there was only one kind available but it was ok as this was nice too. The staff were very friendly and we didn't feel rushed at all as we sat for quite some time chatting and didn't rush to leave. The negatives were only that the atmosphere was a little flat and although we had dressed up most of the other customers seemed to be hotel residents who were quite casually dressed not a big deal really but we did feel a little overdressed!! I'd definitely go again

"Better than expected"

187048mia, Leeds, United Kingdom 15/08/2021

After reading the reviews I was concerned. We had room 133 a junior suite. It was lovely. Big and clean ( apart from windows and mould in bath) . Two big TVs, cake on arrival and beer in fridge for our celebration. Restaurant was nice on first night but food poor on second night. Breakfast was nice. Location was good, near many other hotels. Worth the money as we got a Good deal. Thank you

"Cancelled Our Booking Last Minute"

1
cp85manc, Manchester, United Kingdom 14/08/2021

We were due to dine here next weekend. We made the booking months ago. We have been contacted to be told our reservation has been cancelled as they are renting out the whole hotel for 6 months. This is poor customer service and has left us needing to find somewhere else to book last minute.

"Beware Hotel value profit over Customer Booking "

1
User 12/08/2021

Absolutely disgusting, I had booked and paid for my room 6 months in advance of a visit, then a couple of weeks before we were due to stay we received an email without explanation to say the property had cancelled our room. Interestingly rooms are still available online but 3 times the price presumably because of the football match the same weekend. The trip was a break after working on the NHS front line for the last 17 months, not relevant and don't want special treatment pure bad customer service do not book here you may be faced with no accommodation at the last minute

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Absolute Rubbish! We explained today the reasons for the hotel closure following the effects of covid. We are not available online this is just not true. It is irrelevant who the booking is for so don't understand why you feel the need to inform...we have cancelled due to covid and the effects it has on our business...but you already know this you have just chose not to listen. Thank you for your support during this difficult time for not only the business but for the entire team...oh who have also worked were possible over the last 17 months to support a business during a pandemic. Oh and your advice not to book is also irrelevant as we told you we will be closing therefore any other guests simply wont be able to.

"Do not stay at this hotel"

User 11/08/2021

Don't waste your money staying at this hotel. Hotel is very tired. We arrived on Sat 7th August and checked in and were given room 223. We went to our room and it was full of flies. The room was dirty and very dirty I went and complained and was given keys to other room 461 This was only slightly better Window lock was broken/damp on walls/stains on carpets/walls with cracks/curtains falling down/cobwebs on lights/cracks in bathroom wall They offered me a reduction of 20% or a full refund and go and find someone else which at 3.30pm on a sat was not practical as there were 6 of us I accepted the 20% but advised receptionist I was not happy and wanted to see the manager who was not in until Sunday This hotel is 1 star at best I didn't see the manager before we left but emailed on Monday with my concerns along with pictures of the room which they have not replied too as they seem to have a lot of complaints to deal with We paid £150 for this room The standard of this hotel is way below what I expect

"Fantastic, affordable suite"

5
Richard E, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 11/08/2021

Booked a suite for three people at The Richmond and could not have been happier with our stay. The suite was spacious, clean, tidy and well maintained. Prior to my stay, I had been in contact with Amanda L who provided excellent and courteous customer service and dealt with my queries in a prompt, friendly and efficient manner. Hotel is in an excellent city centre location and I look forward to another visit to The Richmond soon.

Stayed with husband and son last night Booked king suite with double bed and double sofa bed but when i got to room it was double room with broken single camp bed. Carpet had blood on it. Table dirty, room musty and dirty. Bed rock hard with springs coming through. Didn't feel safe around area and lots of men hanging around outside. Would not recommend booking this hotel

"Avoid !!"

Karmsjourney, Pontypridd, United Kingdom 03/08/2021

Myself and my partner decided to take our first trip post COVID-19 to Liverpool for a mid week stay at this hotel. We were more than fooled by the images presented to us upon booking. Once we arrived at the hotel the reception looked quite decent and the check in was pretty straight forward, we were given a room on the 4th floor. Once arriving at our room it was very musty and very outdated, in addition to this it was very warm in the room so my partner decided to switch on the air con which began to release a foul smell, one that didn't seem to leave the room. We then proceeded to ask reception for another room and we were told we'd been upgraded to a “suite” which to be quite Frank despite the smell was worse than the first room, much to my disappointment the room was dirty, the table was clearly not cleaned and when my partner sat on the bed he said that it smelt very bad, considering we are still in the middle of a pandemic this level of hygiene was beyond disgusting. The room itself felt eerie and I was very uncomfortable. After travelling near enough 4 hours to get to the hotel in the first place I was more than frustrated with this experience. The only good thing I have to say about this property is that as soon as I requested a refund it was issued, as if the staff already knew the problems as it was barely questioned as to why we wished to leave. This experience led us to walking around Liverpool most of the afternoon with our bags attempting to find further accommodation and ruined the beginning of our trip. Unfortunately we did not have chance to take pictures of the rooms but in hindsight wish we did to ensure no one would have to experience this, I would avoid this property at all costs.

"Change it's name to hotel Cecil"

User 01/08/2021

I don't know where to start, we arrived for a birthday weekend to what can only be described as an ‘apartment' that resembled a squat when we had originally booked a two bedroom apartment. The room was filthy, so much so that when one of us removed our shoes and walked across the room our feet were filthy… we couldn't believe our eyes, it looked like she had walked along hot coals or been working bare foot down a mine, I've attached a photograph along with another photo of the stained carpet, we couldn't work out what the stains were from as they varied in colour and smell. The ‘view' from our room was extremely picturesque, as you can see from the photo I've attached. Someone clearly got a deal on the light fittings as they thought it would be a great idea to put a chandelier on a slanted wall. 6 people were staying and we were given half a loo roll, one poor girl had a bad stomach so resorted to wiping herself with a crisp packet. Two of the girls refused to sleep so sat up on the chairs all night. To make matters worse, we were supplied with tea and coffee facilities however there was no milk. I have seen homeless people live in better conditions. We paid over £600 to stay in a squat for the night- so if you fancy sleeping in a room where the wall paper is coming off, the beds are stained and you have to guess what caused the stains then stay here, if you don't fancy that I'd say sleep outside as you'll probably get a better nights sleep and won't feel like you have to bleach your body to get clean after you leave.

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. Whilst I appreciate the carpet needs replacing, which is ordered. We did in fact have the carpet professionally cleaned to remove the stain from the previous guests, when realised this couldn't come out we ordered a replacement. I don't believe this carpet produced this level of dirt as was cleaned only that week. In relation to the milk etc - clearly an oversight and I am certain if you did mention this we would of sorted immediately for you. Having spoken to the team they don't believe any of the issues were taken up with them. I strongly believe if you were to of informed us one of the team would of come straight to your room to address. To simply go on line after your stay doesn't give us any opportunity to address anything for you. To advise one of your friends resorted to a crisp packet and 2 of your friends chose not to sleep is alarming - if advised we would of resolved.

"Great Hotel"

Alison S, Manchester, United Kingdom 01/08/2021

Stayed her end of July 2021 for a friends Birthday treat, loved everything about our experience from first point of contact at booking right through to check out. We had upgraded to a twin apartment and added the sliver package to our stay; everything we asked for was catered for. We ate in the restaurant and had an absolutely delicious , fresh, well cooked and perfectly presented 3 course meal served by friendly and helpful staff. Our room was clean and comfortable 153. Breakfast was good and only criticism was that staff weren't as attentive; in that we had to keep asking for refills of coffee, our toast, croissants etc; the buffet selection is good but I would still prefer to serve myself this; can't take anything away from the quality though. Overall a fabulous stay and so much so I have booked to return in 8 weeks

"Much much better than expected"

Timothy G, Telford, United Kingdom 30/07/2021

I have never stayed here before but I'll never stay anywhere else in future. The staff are friendly, helpful, courteous and professional. Nothing is too much trouble. The room is spacious, well equipped and luxurious. It is spotlessly clean and incredibly comfortable. You really should give this place a chance, you won't be disappointed.

"Over priced"

2
User 30/07/2021

A over night stay, very disappointing on arrival the hotel is dated carpets are dirty furniture is dusty..we couldn't go in our room it was cleaning time. When eventually we got in after having the wrong key (4th floor up and down to reception) the rooms were 117 a night on approach we passed several homeless looking people in the corridors by our room who asked for money. Once in our room it was awful certainly not clean, the toilet hadn't been flushed , there were cigarettes on my balcony above it the curtains hung off..The mirror was smashed in the wardrobe, the kitchen area unclean. In the end we were offered our money back. We had such expectations for the rooms we were potentially in a studio room. The manager was ok with us but not once did he apologies..we later learned during covid the hotel was used for housing of homeless which is good of the hotel but now it needs to be cleaned and decorated and mostly more welcoming on arrival.

"A lovely stay"

gary c, Telford, United Kingdom 30/07/2021

We have stayed at this hotel 5 times. It is well maintained and has lots of character. The staff are so helpful and friendly, we can't wait until our next visit. We had a meal in the restaurant which we really enjoyed.

"Not safe for anyone traveling alone"

1
User 30/07/2021

Do not stay in this hotel. we are a young couple and booked for a budget stay so weren't expecting anything amazing. Our shower in our room didn't work, so we were told we could either move to a room a floor up or sleep in it aswell, this room was a lot bigger and nicer and a lot cleaner and we couldn't walk up a floor every time we wanted to shower so we stayed in the second room. DO NOT STAY IN THIS ROOM IF YOUR A FEMALE OR ANYONE TRAVELING ALONE. At various intervals of the early morning staff members were letting themselves into our room whilst knocking or without knocking and often found us both asleep and indecent, which felt like a massive breach of privacy, no chain on the door and the inner locks don't seem to do anything when door is opened with a master key. So young women stay very clear. when coming back the next day we got a voicemail telling us our shower was fixed and to move to our original room, whislt in the shower and both indecent a member of staff let herself into the room and when we politely asked her if we could put clothes on before she entered she just proceeded to shout at us to get out the room very rudely. This hotel is not clean there was a drug pipe on our window sill and has no privacy or safety and made for an uncomfortable and stressful stay, steer very clear.

"Average - could probably find somewhere better."

emilybell3, Glasgow, United Kingdom 27/07/2021

Booked here for 2 nights with 2 friends. Good location but hotel is quite old fashioned.Stayed on 4th floor, lots of doors to go through before we reached our apartment. When walking in, the first thing I noticed was various iron burn on the carpet. We also request 1 double bed and 1 single but got 3 singles – this was not a big deal. To be honest, it wasn't the worst stay, but the no air con situation during a heatwave, makes sleeping in the apartment quite difficult. My main gripe with the hotel staff is when they just walk in your room, seconds after knocking. When arriving, we asked if we could have prosecco glasses and an iron sent up to the room, to which they agreed. A young girl from the bar sent up the glasses and we waited for the ironing board. Moments later, a man appeared in our room with the ironing board. This just gave us a bit of a fright. We understand our door was unlocked. The following day, we phoned down for some water to be sent up and the same situation happened again, as we were walking to the door to collect, a man was standing in our doorway. We understand our door wasn't locked from the inside but this just felt like an invasion of our privacy as hotel guests. I would look around other hotels before booking here.

User 26/07/2021

Great location and this apart hotel could be so much more. Massive apartment but lacking some homely little touches and not the cleanest of places. Draining board grimy, spillage under the sink that had not been cleaned. Has a nice kitchenette with plates, cups and two teaspoons. No other cutlery and no tea towel or cooking utensils? So if you decided to cook in your apartment there's nothing to eat with. No washing up cloths etc. Could do with these things and also some pictures on the walls, etc. But for somewhere to crash for the night it's fine. Just a little disappointing

"Absolutely lovely"

5
User 23/07/2021

This is a great hotel for groups, the suite was lovely and had everything we needed and the other rooms were very spacious also. The decor was so pretty, it felt like a sort of boutique hotel, not too modern but not old either. Super comfy beds. I would definitely stay again

"Weekend Stay"

5
Lisa L, Southport, United Kingdom 23/07/2021

Stayed here last weekend with a group of friends, All our rooms were close together and requested and ideal for what we were looking for. Rooms were hot however the weekend we chose the weather was great so suppose to be expected...didn't bother us too much as we were out all day and night and only used as a base. Breakfast was nice, didn't have dinner, staff were all pleasant, would stay again.

"Worst hotel I've ever seen"

1
91e16, London, United Kingdom 22/07/2021

I arrived here for my boyfriends birthday and was horrified. I cried the minute I entered the room. Nothing like the photos and stains EVEYWHERE including the roof and carpet. It was horrid. Scaffolding mights as well have been part of the room. Very dangerous to exposed wires in the “luxury room”. I requested a refund immediately. SAVE YOURS MONEY AND GO TO A PREMIER IN! SOOOO much better than this awful hotel!

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Wow ... We are not a premier inn unfortunately who have every room exactly the same. Therefore the rooms we have are individual therefore unable to put every image online. We asked which room you saw online as we were going to give you this room if available...unfortunately you refused although we were trying to help. A score of 1 is unjustified.

"No luxury. Grotty"

1
F3516MWiang, Crawley, United Kingdom 20/07/2021

2009 Richmond “Luxury Aparthotel”. Trading standards would be interested. We stayed in one of you “luxury balcony suites” at the beginning of July. Our room was disgusting. On the fourth floor and then up a very steep flight of stairs. Room was a disgrace. Very dark and hot with an old broken fan in the bedroom that was filthy. Fridge very poor with no freezer. Carpets in lounge had several carpet burns in. Opened the door to the balcony and it was disgusting. Rubbish cigarette ends all over the floor. Also covered in bird poo. There was a small table again covered in bird poo and 1 chair. Also scaffolding was overhanging the balcony. NO robes, slippers, water and safe. All advertised on your website. Room looked nothing like the pictures. We were not prepared to stay in this disgusting room for 2 nights and asked to be moved. We were moved to another “luxury suite” 142 and although better than the previous room it still wasn't what I would class as luxury. Paint on the floors and on the carpet, there was a big dip/hole in the floor and the sofa had been better days. We had to put pillows behind us when we sat down to avoid falling down the back of it. The Bath had come away from the wall and there was an inch gap by the side. Also the plug mechanism was broken and I had to use a knife to get the plug out to empty the water. There was an empty box of tissues and only 1 toilet roll. No robes or slippers again. Robe was supplied when we requested it but they had run out of slippers. Not very luxury as advertised. We're the first in for breakfast on Saturday morning and it took 45 minutes for me to get my hot breakfast. Dinner had been slow the previous evening but we were chatting so wasn't so much of a problem. We didn't bother with breakfast on Sunday as it was so slow. We had our elderly Aunt with us in another room which was nice. However the flooring in the landing areas caused us problems as none of the carpets were fitted properly and there were lumps and trip hazards everywhere. We tried to use the one working lift on the Saturday morning but the cleaners had blocked it off with their trolley and wouldn't let us use it as they wanted to use it themselves despite it being obvious my Aunt was unsteady on her feet. Suggested we used the stairs. With no other choice we had to and the stairs we used were disgusting with the carpet being so dirty you couldn't tell the original colour. The evening of the wedding was another shambles as there was no organisation of the staff. We struggled to order drinks all through the night. We had to go to the bar to let the staff know we wanted to order them had to sit down and wait patiently for them to take our order. It didn't take long for everything to run out especially draft beer. By about 6pm is was better to ask what was left and then deciding. Think it was Magners and Stella by then. People in the wedding were going to Tesco's to buy Presecco as they had run out of that as well. Considering the hotel was virtually full there was football and a wedding on I can't believe how they run out of everything. As for the food, compared to the pictures we received the food looked nothing like advertised. The tower of profiteroles was more like a bungalow. And as for the fiasco regarding the projector supplied to watch the football. I shouldn't be surprised. To advertise this hotel as luxury is a disgrace and I'm sure that the health and safety of the hotel is not something that is being monitored by the management. All in all a disappointing experience and is somewhere I would never recommend or revisit. I've recently joined the best western loyalty scheme but if this is the general standard of hotels I think I will give them a miss.

"Disappointed stay"

1
Passenger19735599633, Ramsbottom, United Kingdom 19/07/2021

Very disappointed stay - booked with secret escapes who usually use superior accommodation. This was definitely not. Room old and tired, broken fixtures and air conditioning broken (we are currently experiencing a heat wave), had to open the windows but had no sleep due to the heat and noise from the outside busy street. Finally dozed off late in the morning only to be 10 minutes late for breakfast that they could then not accommodate. Location is very central. Parked in a car park on Kent street, not very close to the hotel (approximately 1 mile) but was good value at £12 for 2 days.

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately we dont have air conditioning and do appreciate during the heat wave the hotel is very warm. I am very sorry to hear of your experience at breakfast this should have been accommodated and I will address this straight away as simply should not happen.

"Fantastic weekend"

User 06/07/2021

We have waited almost a year to have a weekend away and were anxious to say the least. I know on booking we was particularly difficult with our 1000 questions before we even arrived but the staff where so helpful answering them all and being extra patient with us. Andy in particular. - was great to see a lot of local living people working here as they knew the best places to visit. The Spanish lady on reception knew the city better than most Liverpudlians. We was welcomed and reassured from the Minuit we arrived with the guy on the desk even helping us up the stairs with our bags as I'm afraid of lifts. - I didn't catch his name but he even told us to leave are bags in the room when we was checking out and brought the bags back down for us which was a lovely of him. The room was beautiful, spacious and spotlessly clean. We went for dinner on the first night and it was lovely as expected given everything else was so perfect. Liverpool on a whole never fails as the people are always amazing and there is so much to do. I will defiantly return and recommend this to anyone coming to Liverpool

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your recent review. Really pleased you had an enjoyable stay and great to see particular mentions for Andy and Amanda. Hope to welcome back soon. Regards

"Poor"

1
LeeG989, Liverpool, United Kingdom 05/07/2021

The room was stifling hot and the air con didn't work. I was told the new owners had ripped it all out and weren't replacing it. The room had a baby feeding spoon behind the bathroom door, not sure if it was left there or was being used as a door stop. There were used false eyelashes on the bathroom counter top, which is disgusting and shows the lack of effort in cleaning and worrying in this time of covid-19.

"Average at best , may be being generous."

Mr2790740544, Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom 05/07/2021

Well, there is little to say about this hotel other than it definitely is average, at best . It's not even like it was cheap. Not sure how it's called an apart-hotel when it is literally just a normal bedroom. It's so tired and dated , not like they've had 12 months or so to do it up. Such a shame as the building is fantastic. I will never stay again. So many better places in Liverpool.

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. We have a variety of bedrooms and 50% have a kitchenette and lounge area, this is the reason for calling an apart hotel. In terms of your comments 'not like they've had 12 months to do it up' unfortunately when you are closed for over 12 months with little to no revenue coming through you don't generally have funds to be able to do it up!

Me and my friends stayed here during a recent visit to Liverpool. There were 3 of us so they provided a put me up bed in the room. This bed was no long than 5ft so more of a child's bed really. The room itself was quite large and had everything you'd want however the decor, carpets and kitchen area were very tired looking. The room didn't have any air conditioning and was very hot however you couldn't leave the window open as the road noise was quite bad.

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for your review. I take on board the comments re the additional bed and appreciate these are not ideal for adults. I understand we have had some really nice weather the last few weeks - and yes without air conditioning the rooms can get quite hot. Regards

"Dirty rooms and poor service"

1
Jonnyshaw123, Liverpool, United Kingdom 01/07/2021

I understand that this hotel has a seemingly good reputation and that maybe this experience was a one off, but to say that our experience was disgraceful would not be putting it lightly. My girlfriend spent £120 for a suite via Secret Escapes, and upon arrival the receptionist stated that they were not fully aware of our booking (having to write names and booking references down on paper from an email from Secret Escapes). This turned out to be untrue, as when we got to the room there was a bottle of Prosecco waiting for (added as a celebratory note for myself getting a new job). Once we looked around this £120 room, we noticed countless areas that were unclean and damaged. This was surprising to us, as a member of staff must have been in the room to drop the Prosecco off, meaning that they turned a blind eye to all of the issues in the room (see pictures). There was paint on the single chair and bed headboards (where from I have no idea, as the ceiling was in a dire need of a paint itself!), saw dust on the skirting board, dried milk stains on the coffee table, a broken bracket on the frame around the TV, huge cobwebs, denim stains on the radiator and what seemed to be either mould or dents in the wall (there's were directly above the sawdust on the skirting board). When we went back to reception to explain that we would not be staying in that room, we were then offered three lesser, non-suite rooms to have a look at with no mention of any money back for the downgrade of room. Surprisingly, we were not offered any guidance to these rooms by a member of staff either, and were told to look around the three rooms by ourselves. Two of these were significantly smaller than the suite that we had paid for (the bigger of the two had damage to the wardrobe mirror doors), so we settled for the 3rd room. After getting up the next morning, we found new problems with this room. The waterfall shower didn't work (only having water pressure on the coldest temperatures) and the fridge, while plugged in and turned on, also didn't work. So this was room number four that was not up to scratch, so after explaining this we thankfully got £60 back for this trouble. Overall this hotel needs a huge makeover and a check of every single room for issues and damage. From the small four room sample we got to see, there were issues in all of them and can only imagine more of the rooms will be like this.

The first thing that shocked me was the state of the cleanliness of the hotel, walking down the corridors the carpets are full of stains etc. Our room was no different, yellow marks on the toilet seat, dirty sink area, stains on carpet and chair. The sleep I had was also dreadful, the rooms are red hot and the air con simply came on for 1 minute before turning off, you can hear every creak and footstep, dreadful sleep! The included prosecco that came with our deal also came without glasses. No attention to detail whatsoever. The food however was really nice, was let down by getting my dessert wrong and then never returning asking if all was okay, nothing knocked off the bill either just a 'sorry about that'. 4 star restaurant, 0 star rooms.

The hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from Lime Street station and another 10 minutes from the Waterfront so is well located. Check in was efficient and friendly although even though I'm an elite member of the BW rewards scheme, no upgrade was offered. Room was a decent size although there were a couple of niggles which weren't discovered until we'd retired to bed, and therefore couldn't be raised at the time as we didn't want the hassle of moving room late in the evening; > The room was hot and the air conditioning didn't work, it would turn on for a few moments and then turn off again > There was a suspicious looking stain on the sheet > Damp smell in the bathroom That said the bed was comfy so managed to get a decent nights sleep. The restaurant was very average and to be honest the menu was uninspiring, if we were staying more than one night I wouldn't have bothered eating in after the first night. Food was pretty bland. Breakfast was ok, although the hot breakfast could best be described as warm rather than hot. The interior of the hotel needs some TLC as quite a few frayed carpets etc. All in all was a pretty average stay and not sure I'd choose again when I return to Liverpool except for the handy location.

My partner booked this hotel as a surprise night away, I was blown away with our room it was massive, very spacious, the room was so clean. We ate at the restaurant and the food was amazing, and not expensive for what ate. Martha our waitress was lovely all the staff who we spoke to were so friendly.

Wow my friends and I had a great night away in Liverpool, we stayed here and it was fantastic, as soon as we got there we noticed that the staff are very welcoming. Our room was huge with a full kitchen in washing machine, cooker and large fridge ( I as was expecting to have small mini fridge) the room a spotless and smelt very fresh, the bathroom was big as well and very clean. when we went out the lovely Emma on reception recommend a few places in the town centre. We arrived late back and lost our key card to the room and lad working so really helpful. We all did love the hotel and will definitely be returning in the near future.

Stayed here over the weekend and had a great time, the staff couldn't do enough for us, we stayed in a suite, was lovely and spacious and had a kitchen so we didn't have to eat out for every meal. The room was perfect and clean. We had breakfast included and it was delicious would definitely recommend. Thanks for a great weekend we will be back soon.

"Disappointed"

320travelgirl, United Kingdom 15/06/2021

We booked a twin room for two nights, and after a long journey we finally arrived to check in. When we go to the first room, we found it to have a double bed. But this was not the only issue, the room itself was dirty and dusty. It looked nothing like the images on the website and it was not a nice room to be in. So I called down to reception and requested them to check our booking. It was confirmed that we did indeed book a twin and that should come down with our bags to get a key for another room, which we did. I did let them know that room was was not clean, and they said they would look into this. When we went to room 2, we found it had twin beds, which was great. But it was much smaller, and we did pay extra for executive room. On closer inspection we heard running water and for a moment it sounded like there was someone in the shower. We bravely looked into the bathroom to find no one was taking a shower, a good start. However the sound of water was still there. After checking the taps and shower, it was clear that the sound was not from the bathroom but from the roof. We called down again, and asked for another room. Due to the water sound and due to the fact room 2 was just as dirty as room 1. We were told to wait in room 2, and someone would be up with another key for room number 3. While we were waiting, two women walked into the room with a key and without knocking. They apologized and shut the door, before we could say anything. We waited for about 20 mins, and then chose to leave the dirty room to go downstairs and find out whats going on. It was very busy downstairs with a lot of people waiting. We joined the queue and waited about 5 mins. Until a lady approached us with room number 3 key. We told her again about the issues with room number 2, and asked if room 3 was clean. She said it was clean and that the rooms are all the same, when we again asked if room 3 was executive. If all rooms are the same, why does this hotel charge more for the "executive" one. She advised that it just how it is and that its the same type of room. So we took the key and went to room 3. room 3 was next door to room 1, and was cleaner and had twin beds. It was also a lot bigger then room 2. However when we went to shower a few hours later, the shower was broken and only one tap (the cold water tap was working in the sink). At this point it was late in the day and we made do with what we had. (we did however tell the gentleman who checked us out about this.) As well as the battery in remote note working and the windows were covered in grim. We then went down to the bar, where a sign said that we had to wait to be seated. We waited for 10 mins and decided to go elsewhere for a drink, as we did not want to complain again, as we had spend a lot of time already on getting a clean room. Next day, we went down to breakfast. It was table service so again we waited and were sat down, very quickly. Breakfast was passable, however there were lipstick stains on the glass (which i informed the staff and this was replaced). The knifes and forks had a lot of water stains and had not been polished, which for a 4 star hotel is a disappointment. On checkout we told the hotel worker what was wrong, and he thanked us, yet did not apologies for our bad experience. I have worked years in a 4 star hotels myself, and the service that the Richmond offered us is not 4 stars. That being said they did provide us with another room when asked, so they did slightly redeem themselves. But overall I was very disappointment and it did spoil our first holiday in 2 years.

"absolutely disappointed about the whole hotel"

User 14/06/2021

I honestly don't know where to start first room we was in was a jr suite and looked nothing like the photos got change to a full suite and honestly the whole room is a disappointment, from start to finish walked and the room was red hot, had a funny stuffy smell to it, the room condition was awful I'd rather stayed in a bin, There dust was on literally every surface, like cmon with COVID still around, mould in the coner of the bath, cracked tile, paint on the door, missing door handle in the kitchen, light fitting hanging off off ceiling, random towel hanging on top of the curtains, carpets was disgusting, no hot water for the shower, and to top it off we hand no signal in the room and had no wifi They reset the wifi but made no difference at all the list goes on.... I wouldn't recommend this hotel to no one please please stay away look somewhere else and save your money!!!!!!

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Wow - thank you for your review. We really do value constructive feedback however to say you would of rather stayed in a bin is somewhat dramatic. I fully accept that we do seem to of dropped the ball in some areas ie the dusting most specifically but do find when images are taken extremely close up they do identify issues to be more serious than on first view. I thank you for taking the time to review every area of the room in detail looking for fault, however I don't believe if you did find the room with the clear water damage as you walk in the bathroom and the towel on the curtain that you would of chosen to stay. Their are minor items you have kindly highlighted which I don't believe would negatively impact your stay and these are items I will have fixed straight away ie the paint splash on the hinge of the door...the screw slightly loose on the air flow or the filler required around the ceiling. Once again thank you for your thorough review of the room.

Booked a suite with a balcony for a few days for our 30th wedding anniversary, staff from start to finish where excellent and I would like to thank the young lady who brought up our drinks to the room and noticed it was a big anniversary (thank you). The apartment was huge and could have slept 4 people comfortably. I would have given a 5 out of 5 but for the outside space, fag ends and and them silver gas canisters in the drains that you see everywhere now, would have taken about 2 minutes to clear away. Would I stay again, a big fat YES.

We were a bit disappointed with this hotel. Our room was tired, there were stains on the carpet, the dressing table was damaged and there was something strange going on in the bedside cabinet drawer, there were only 2 coat hangers, the second pillows didn't have pillow cases on them so we had to ring to bring some, there were no water glasses in the room, just mugs, the TV remote didn't work which we reported and they took away and brought back but it still didn't work. Not a 4 star experience at all. However it was quiet and the breakfast was nice and all the staff were polite and helpful.

We booked this apart- hotel on Wowcher. Beautiful decor and very welcoming and friendly staff on our arrival. Ideally situated, a short walk to Liverpool One. The apart was great, clean and spacious, it had everything we needed including bath robes and slippers. A fully working kitchen including a washing machine makes it an ideal place to stay for several nights. Water and complimentary prosecco in the fridge, this was part of our package. Dinner was delicious as was breakfast. Good quality produce with great service. I would not hesitate to book this apart- hotel again.

We booked this hotel after having our abroad honeymoon cancelled. We booked a junior suite and the room was beautiful, however the hotel does not have air con and the rooms were unbearably hot, we already had a fan in the room but it just circled the warm air, reception said they would send another fan up to the room but it never arrived. Beautiful hotel tho, very central. Junior suite has a large bathroom with bath and lovely shower, large bed and sofa/kitchenette xx

User 03/06/2021

We stayed at Richmond hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is super located, very easy to get the city centre. The only inconvenience is the parking car is not free so you have to plan in advance. The staff here are very polite and the room and service was excellent. The price is affordable . It was the first time when we visited Liverpool and we have a great time here. We booked and sightseeing bus for one day which was very impressive and unforgettable. We visited Anfield and that was a great desire and experience. We have a lot of offers from TripAdvisor everyday and we really like it.

Don't go if you want a quiet relaxing break. We had to put up with parties, noise and shouting both nights. The second night was so bad we rang reception to complain. Nothing was done about it. I complained in the morning to reception and received platitudes and a promise to investigate and get back. 5 days later, no response. Shame as the meal was nice and room, although a bit unclean, was OK. Staff friendly and location good.

"Just Wow (and not the good kind)"

1
User 20/05/2021

Where to begin? The SMELL of the room. It was a combo of stale cigarette smoke and mold masked by some horrible air freshener. The carpet looked like it had not been vacuumed in ages and the place was in need of a dusting. The shower legitimately flooded the bathroom every time you used it and the shower nozzle was broken. Of course the pièce de résistance was when someone came into our room at 1:45 am using a room key!!!! Like WHAT!? Suffice it to say we hightailed it out of there first thing.

User 31/01/2021

This hotel was always my go to place when visiting Liverpool. It is now shambolic to say the least. The last few times I've stayed there now it has been full of Homeless people. I even had to complain last time but drug left overs being on the table in the room and wee on the bathroom Floor. Really shocking now and it's a shame because it used to be fantastic. Maybe management over the PST year or so? One to avoid for the future unfortunately

We had 1 night stay on Friday 18th December. It was a groupon deal. It is a lovely old building converted into a lovely hotel. Covid restrictions were well-maintained throughout our stay. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very good very large TV and lovely bathroom. All essentials as needed were in the room. We had also booked the 3 course meal off groupon. The dining room was very plush. The brasserie staff were great, very friendly and we were well looked after. Have to say that this 3 course meal was exceptional, so compliments to the Chef. We both paid a small extra charge for the steak(£3) and it was cooked to perfection.. Breakfast the next day was one of the best that I have had in a hotel. All in all, the hotel, the room, the staff we met and the food was exceptional. Well done

Went here on Thursday 17th December for afternoon tea that I had as a gift. I can't believe we have a hidden gem like this right in the city centre. The service was excellent from the minute we walked in to when we left. The amount of food we had was unbelievable. I couldn't eat it all there was that much and very tasty. I've already recommended it to all my friends. Definitely will be back. Thank you team Richmond

"So disappointing just a shambles ....."

2
Millwall75, London, United Kingdom 13/12/2020

Shambles - We booked 1 night here as a birthday treat and a post lockdown get out of the house, I am so disappointed as never in my life have I checked out of a hotel without staying. Upon arrival there was a large que for check in however in these COVID-19 times is something that was not an issue. Check in eventually was smooth and we were given our room key, upon arrival in the room it was not the balcony suite that we had booked and barley had an opening window let alone a balcony, we returned to reception where it was informed to us that ‘Andy' then manager had over-ridden our booking and moved our room – Andy however at check in time was on his break and not contactable which considering his ‘authority' I thought was slightly out of order. At no point when we checked in and paid the balance for the balcony suite was this adjustment mentioned or reflected in the price. Troy who assisted us was very helpful despite him actually being the head chef and managed to find a balcony suite and reallocate our room. We entered the rooms and appearance seemed good however we turned the TV on in the sitting area and this was all smashed on the screen and had no signal, the TV in the bedroom had no remote and again no signal. TV normally is not important however because of COVID-19 restrictions we had a reservation in the hotel restaurant and planned on spending the rest of the evening in the room as we could not really go out into Liverpool. We returned to reception with photographic evidence of the TV and asked could the signal at least be fixed, it was now nearly 2hours after arrival at the hotel and we had been up and down and moved to two rooms. We requested that the TV be looked at whilst we went shopping as this was our intention when in Liverpool. Upon returning to the room after brief shop the TVs had not been fixed. We are local to Liverpool and this was meant to be a stress free night away from home to celebrate my birthday and so far its been more like faulty towers – We returned to reception and were then told that none of the TV were working and its an issue. Fortunately we were given a full refund and we left to return home as the experience filled me with no hope that the meal would be as disastrous as our initial interactions. In the short time we were in the building at least 2 other couples who had checked in also checked straight back out so I can only assume despite the previous glorious reviews the current hotel has some serious issues however I have learnt that in the pandemic the hotel may have been used to house people and that there has been a lot of anti-social behaviour – this could be why the standard of the hotel has been lowered. On our several trips through the corridors there was dirty linen everywhere, housekeeping trolleys still all over the place and this was gone 17:00, housekeeping and dirty linens should have been very much away from the guest rooms by this time. It's a shame and I hope they get back on track however currently I would advise that people stay well away. I will say though that Troy was excellent with his customer service and we did get a refund.

I am very to hear of such an experience in our hotel. As you can see definitely not the norm and some serious issues that we need resolve quickly to ensure this does not happen again. "Definitely not a 4 star hotel! "

D4151HRlisap, Melbourne, Australia 12/12/2020

Firstly I have to say the guy at reception did bend over backwards to try and help us and was lovely, none of this is his fault and entirely down to poor house keeping, utilities and the hotel being over sold on booking.com with higher stars than what it should be. We ended up getting a refund and going home after attempting to change rooms 3 times. Our first non smoking room was in a hall with smoking so the whole room stank, our second room had poo splatters in the toilet bowl.. yes seriously! Third room the TV didn't work and the room was dirty. The carpet needed a good Vacuum I picket chewing gum off the floor and the bathroom floor was also dirty. I feel the biggest concern here was hygiene, particularly in a pandemic. I have to say in all honesty I've stayed in hotels in third world countries that were cleaner.

I´ve stayed few months ago before all the covid situation and I loved the location of the hotel, is very close to the city center and you can go walking everywhere. An special mention to Amanda, she was without doubt the best receptionist ever! Always asking us about our needs, anticipating doubts and always with a smile. She informed us about all the attractives and the tours in the city and told us nice options to eat in Bold st. She made our stay the best. Breakfast was ok, I specially loved the sausages!! The room was also very clean and tidy. Definetely I recommend the hotel for a stay in Liverpool, waiting for all the situation to get better and be back to the city soon! :)

Myself and my partner booked a couples night away in Liverpool. With different restrictions coming into play, the hotel were very unhelpful and weren't willing to offer a refund if unable to go. To what we thought was luck, we were still allowed to visit. We now, wish we never. It advertises parking, THERE IS NO CAR PARK. You are sent to a multi-storey car park, 3 blocks away. STAY AWAY IF YOU HAVE A BIG CAR. The car park is tiny and the up and down sides to get to each floor are not built properly, that his has taken a huge chunk out of the bottom of my partners car. You can see all the colours and marks from other cars which clearly didn't fit. We ordered breakfast, £10 each. I WOULD CHOSE THE OPTION TO STARVE. Absolutely vile, ordered a full English and ate the toast. If you do unluckily end up here, please also check your bill after. It's been a hard few months for everybody which is understandable, but what a shambles this place is. The shower had limescale all over it, like howay, how hard is it to clean. P.S beware of the carpet, it's riding up everywhere, even on the stairs and is a massive health and safety risk.

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Wow... It seems here that as you were unable to have your way and for us to refund you based on you booking a NON REFUNDABLE rate that we were never going to get a good review. Considering you only booked the room 5 WEEKS BEFORE you might of been better booking on the slightly higher rate but giving you the flexibility to cancel right up until the day prior. You seem to have a major gripe with the local car park and if too tight for your BIG CAR you could of always parked elsewhere. I am surprised by the breakfast as we do get many compliments however take the feedback on board but I do hope you liked the FULL REFUND we gave you for this. I hope you had a good journey home

Myself and my girlfriend booked to stay at The Richmond hotel for 2 nights as it really stood out to us. The receptionist was very welcoming and checked us in very efficiently! The room was very clean and plenty of towels were provided for our stay. The only downsides were some small items of improvement in the room (483): The wardrobe doors wouldn't shut properly and the handles weren't attached securely. The rooms were quite warm and when we turned on the air conditioning it felt as though nothing was coming out of the vent, so the room was still very warm. The shampoo/shower gel isn't screwed to the wall so one of them fell off after having a shower as it was stuck on with self adhesive. Other than that everything was great - food was delicious - strongly recommend the full English breakfast!

We booked an overnight stay via Groupon, which included breakfast 3 course meal and Prosecco On arrival I asked if we could exchange the Prosseco for wine and have with our evening meal.Caroline on reception said that wouldnt be a problem. We was allowed to leave our luggage as our room wasnt ready then went out for the afternoon. On return, we checked in with someone else on reception who was equally as helpful. Our room was spotless and perfect for an overnight stay. In the evening we had 3 course dinner which was absolutely beautiful and the waitress couldn't be more helpful. From start to finish the service was the best we have had in a very long time and would definitely return. Very close to all amenities. One definitely to visit. Thankyou Richmond Hotel.

Have just came back from a 2 night stay in the Richmond Apart-Hotel and was an overall great stay. All staff were brilliant, especially Carolina at reception who was extremely helpful. We had breakfast included with our stay which was delicious and included a huge range of options. The room we had was very spacious and clean, and came with a mini fridge which was a great bonus! Would definitely stay again!

My friend and I stayed at the Richmond Apart-Hotel last night. We saw it advertised on Groupon and Wowcher with a great deal for bed, breakfast and evening meal with a bottle of Prosecco thrown in. We booked at short notice directly with the hotel who matched the deal and were given great advice about reduced parking at the Q Park a few minutes walk away. They can validate tickets for £15 for 24 hours which is good value for a city centre hotel. When we checked in we were given a warm and friendly welcome by the male receptionist. Check in was efficient and we were able to book our chosen time for our evening meal in the restaurant. There was a small mix up with our first room (131) as it hadn't been made up into a twin as we'd booked. After going back down to reception we were given a different room straight away. This room (154) wasn't as large as the first but it was only for one night and it was lovely and clean with a large flat screen TV. One thing it did lack for two females was a mirror in the bedroom next to a power point for hair/make-up but that's a small detail. We went down to the bar/restaurant and were greeted immediately and led to a table that was beautifully laid out. The bar man/waiter Nuno was great - very friendly and chatty. He brought our included bottle of chilled Prosecco to the table which we enjoyed with a super-tasty meal. The menu wasn't huge but there were several things on there that I could've picked which the sign of a great menu as far as I'm concerned. I had garlic mushrooms to start which were tasty . My friend had pate which she enjoyed. Our mains were equally as good - fish and chips and belly pork. There was a good choice of desserts but only one of us (me!) had enough space and my lemon drizzle pud with creme anglaise was gorgeous. We had a lovely evening but after wandering around the city all day we were ready for an early night. One of the single beds had a loud creak whenever I moved so I was very aware of this which affected my sleep as I didn't want to disturb my friend. It was very warm in the room after a lovely hot day but we didn't open the window in case it was too noisy so that was our decision. Breakfast this morning was good and beautifully presented. My poached eggs were hard unfortunately and the bacon a bit hard but it was still tasty. The waitress was friendly and welcoming although she should be aware that her mask needs to cover her nose and mouth and not just her mouth. We had a very enjoyable stay at the Richmond and would certainly recommend it to anybody who is looking for a great break in a fab city. I have to say that the Richmond have got a terrific team of staff. Check out by Carolina was efficient and friendly. Everybody we came across were professional and friendly which is unfortunately quite rare in some hospitality establishments so thank you for a great break. One thing I have to mention some others have is the fact that some homeless people are still being housed at this hotel who I assume were moved in whilst the pandemic was at its worst. While we understood why this was done, your paying guests should be made aware of this when booking. There were a few people wandering around with microwave meals and bags of bottles and a couple smoking outside the main entrance. The smell of weed drifting in from just outside the door was disgusting and horrible so please do something about this or you will lose guests who may be put off returning. It would be a real shame to ruin such a great hotel.

My husband and I decided to spend a couple nights at The Richmond in our trip to the UK and we had a great time. We experienced a lovely service from all the stuff specially the Spanish lady Amanda, she helped us out with all our questions. Our room had a great view, and it is perfectly located for walking distance. Looking forward to go back soon!

Arrived for an overnight stay and hotel looked lovely on outside and can't fault most of the staff. The food in the restaurant was good aswell Be warned the hotel let's homeless people stay and although I don't have any issues with that the people that come into the hotel of an evening are not the clientele you really want wandering the corridors when your in your room at night. There was three people let in when we was going out for a walk. They smelt of weed and also the lady was screaming across she still had half her bottle of vodka to drink. I understand what the hotel is trying to do but if they can afford things such as weed and vodka they have money The first room we was shown too stunk of weed and had a broken shower and door and was then taken immediately to a second. This room seems ok until shoes were off later that evening after settled in and we found toenails all over the floor and in the bed (which we took to reception). I would never stay again unless I could be assured that no one from the streets were coming in as you felt you needed to sleep with one eye open I have since had a refund through groupon as manager did agree to a full refund and also has said I can go back anytime to try the hotel again for free. That says it all really. Just such a shame as it's a lovely hotel but it lets itself down

Team Savvy, Owner at The Richmond Apart-Hotel, responded to this review
Alf, wow thank you for your feedback...quite hard to believe when we have gone out our way to not only provide you with a full refund for your stay and on top of this offer another complimentary return visit you still feel the need to go on tripadvisor. I can clearly see we have done everything and more in our power to rectify the issues raised and granted not the best experience but when our manager on duty has gone over and above what I would deem to be a fair discount I am honestly surprised to read your review. Had a Groupon voucher for a 3 course meal with bottle of wine so went on a Wednesday evening for our anniversary. The hotel is attractive and the restaurant very well decorated with comfortable seating. We were served by Nunu who was very friendly, professional and helpful Our meals were very nice, garlic mushrooms and squid to start, burger and fish and chips for mains, and lemon drizzle cake and profiteroles for dessert. Food was nice but obviously bought in frozen or ready made rather than made to order in the kitchen restaurant, but it was very nicely presented. My husband particularly enjoyed his squid starter. I had the burger which was a bit dry, probably because it was in a pretzel roll which is dry in itself. The included Sauvignon Blanc wine was good. We had a good evening for a great price. Nice staff too.

"The great food was made better because of NuNu's excellent service!"

My mum and I were in Liverpool for 2 nights last week and went to dinner at the Richmond both nights. We had struggled with getting same night reservations at other places because of COVID19 restrictions but when I called, I was greeted by the lovely NuNu who said that that he could accomodate us that evening. We had used a Groupon voucher so had the three course meal. On the first night, I had a liver pate starter, pork belly main and the profiteroles dessert. All yummy especially the sauce from the main! I cannot remember which starter my mum had but her main was the salmon and dessert was cheesecake - a meal which we both thoroughly enjoyed. We were not expecting to go back to the Richmond again, but after such a great experience and not finding anything online that would work for the following night, we went back again. The second night, I had the calamari, chicken main and cheesecake - all lovely but I preferred the starter and the main from the first night. The next evening was busier and NuNu was working in the restaurant and bar and though he was super busy serving by himself, he continued the same brilliant service with courtesy and a big smile. I had stayed at the Richmond a few years prior and though I enjoyed the breakfast, I hadn't enjoyed the dinner so was slightly hesitant to return but I was so glad we gave it a second chance. The food was great but the experience was made better because of NuNu's excellent service! Thank you! :)

I have stayed in many hotels in Liverpool throughout the years. I have been in this hotel for nearly a week now and I can not fault and part of it! If I've needed any help or required more towels, tea or needed anything fixing nothing has seemed to be too much trouble! Kevin has been extremely good with the customer service aspect of the hotel and he's a great credit to the hotel! I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Bedrooms and bathrooms are absolutely gorgeous with a lovely decor! Definitely worth a trip too! The rooms are a big big yes from me and more importantly customer service and support is amazing!

Visited for afternoon tea for two on Saturday. The staff were welcoming and the service was good. The restaurant looked fantastic interior design wise. We were shown to our table and offered prosecco followed by the afternoon tea. Maybe it was a mistake and less staff at hand due to covid but the restaurant was not busy so I was shocked to receive hard cream almost frozen and no jam! I assumed we would be offered the option or given plain scoes and/or ones with raisin but it came with raisin only and that was very cold and hard. The sandwiches and sweet treats were lovely. Overall not worth the price. I was expecting more as the reviews and reputation of the restaurant was held at high standard.

Me and my wife came here for a 3 course meal that we had of groupon the food was really nice well presented my wife is lactose intolerant so when it came to the dessert there wasn't much choice so we asked the waitress to see if they had any dairy free ice cream to go with the dish she went missing for about 10 mins then the bar manger(NUNO) who was really nice came over to see if we had ordered there was a bit of a mix up in between this eventually the waitress came back with some dairy free ice cream which they manged to get for my wife which she really enjoyed there was 1 other small problem we asked for a mojito cocktail but they had no mint but for £9.00 a go i think they should have had all the ingredients at the end of the day it wasn't a big deal just 1 more note to thank NUNO the bar manger he was really nice an spoke to us about our night of which we had a nice time.

"Terrible sleep"

1
User 13/08/2020

We would never stay here again. The room was rediculously hot with no breeze coming in and no air conditioning. It was supposed to be a 2 night break away from kids and restful but instead we had the two worst nights sleep waking up every hour because it was far too hot. We did ask for a fan which was delivered but the air coming out of it was as powerful as someone blowing out a candle. We left it on for hours and still no change but extremely noisy so we turned it off. To top it off we then got woken up at 8.45am from building work right out side our window. The late checkout was pointless because you were wide awake due to temperature and noise so early in the morning. Corridors also smelt very strongly of weed at points throughout the days. The room was basic. Nice bathroom but room was very dark. For £158 for 2 nights we were extremely unhappy and not rested! However, the staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was nice.

Met up with friends after not seeing each other for months, rooms and restaurant were great. Amanda checked us and her customer service was delightful. Rooms well stocked for everything needed. When checking in noticed maintenance work being carried out to complete a coffee and snack desk at the front entrance. Can't wait to return to see the outcome.

After looking at the hotel reviews on another site, we booked a Junior Suite for a couple of nights at 4 star prices. Upon arrival, check in was smooth but the room we were given was not what we expected plus grotty and dark. We moved upstairs to a better looking room, however there was large dry urine patches over the toilet seat. Given the current pandemic, we would expect even more attention to cleanliness. We went down to report this to reception and asked for the cleaners to go back in whilst we took a drink at the bar. The drinks and service were as expected and the waiter was attentive. However, whilst we were enjoying our drinks, another resident entered the restaurant claiming she had to do her washing, she soon returned with arm fills of washing asking about room service. Moments later a partially dressed lady walked through the restaurant. At this time, we began to think that the hotel was also supporting the homeless during the pandemic. We were not affected by this despite being disappointed by the price we had paid. We walked up to the tesco and there was a ruckus going on outside, the pair who were clearly under the influence walked into our hotel. They were followed by another guys who was literally'legless' struggling to walk. Again, no affect upon our stay. Upon our return to the room, the toilet seat had been cleaned. However, when ready to put the tv on, I had to clean old lettuce and grime from the remote control. There were sticky cup patches on the coffee table and food on the floor. We raised our third complaint before unpacking and asked for a refund. I believe the standards of going off those previous ones have dropped significantly. I think housekeeping need to be reviewed. Safety was also a concern. Another resident and yes I'm stereotyping who looked under the influence, went to reception, mentioned his key card wasn't working. He gave a room number and the receptionist recharged his key without asking a single security question such as asking his name! Please wait until standards improve before booking a stay here.

"Terrible"

1
User 05/08/2020

We stayed at the Richmond about 2 week's ago so we could go into town etc, the tv was terrible could barely see what was playing because of the glare off the light on the glass cover over the tv, some buttons on the remote didn't even work. The skinny bald man on reception was just rude, Oh and still to this day I haven't got my £100 deposit back, for the amount we have been messed around for this deposit I think we should get a full refund for the whole thing, never staying there again.

It is with a heavy heart that our views of the hotel replicate the earlier ones from other guests comments. Needless to say we were a bit disappointed with some of the issues we experienced during out first time visiting this beautiful City of Liverpool. However, I also need to express on a more positive note some of the good things this hotel has to offer. The room was clean and well enough appointed with a small balcony. Although we did have a few issues with the room I would hope that the points raised with the Manager, Joe will be rectified. The breakfast was fantastic!!! We loved the table service and the choice on the menu was very good. Nuno and Bianca were amazingly helpful and very professional as was Jade, (thanks for the coffees). The two Spanish girls, Amanda and Carolina on the reception desk were also very helpful. The hotel was well situated and great for getting out and about in Liverpool. If the issues in the hotel were to improve then we would return.

"Great Base for Exploring The City"

GaryMenzies, South Queensferry, United Kingdom 03/08/2020

Stayed with a group of friends whilst visiting friends in the area for a long weekend and found The Richmond to be the ideal location from which to explore all the city has to offer. From the moment of check in the staff were nothing but friendly & attentive from the front door right through the the bar & restaurant. Food & Drink is reasonably priced and high quality for the location, and I've also stopped by just for an afternoon drink and/or light bite on occasion. Highly recommended!

"Not what it seems"

User 30/07/2020

We travelled as a couple for a few days away. The room itself a balcony suite was nice and suited our needs. The issues began when leaving the room. We were concerned on arriving at what appeared to be a drug transaction on the front of the hotel but dismissed it as passer by. However throughout our stay the smell of drugs wafted throughout the halls of the hotel. Individuals ignored requests of not joining other people in the lift due to Covid risks and would regularly step in unmasked. Me needing a double knee replacement was forced to take the four floors down to the exit via the stairs trying dodge the dangerous bulges in the red stairs carpets! On questioning the hotel reception we asked if families/homeless were being housed at the hotel. They confirmed this. I have no issue with this during the current climate, but the lack of disregard for the paying customer in my opinion is unacceptable. Customer s should be informed of this and as such make a decision if this is acceptable for them.

The worst experience in a 4*hotel I have Ever had. My wife and I arrived at reception after passing two guests outside the entrance smoking cigarettes in pyjamas f'ing and jeffing very loudly. After a fairly easy experience with the receptionist we walked to our room, it was a balcony suite. Opened the room door and Oh no, Smell of mould and cigarettes, flaked paint, Stains, burns on carpet and furniture, wonkey cupboards chipped worktops, mold, and bald worn patches on furniture seats. The concrete balcony flags were full of weeds and slippy moss. Not happy so Back to walking over the countless Crumpled creases and high waves of loose red hallway carpet to reception. Received another room key, back over the Red Sea of carpet past various cannabis smoke filled corridors dodging around sick stains and cigarette stench hallways to the next horrific surprise, a steel structure right in front of the patio of the next Room. The smelll of damp staleness paired nicely with no WiFi at all. Just when you think it can't get worse 8am KANGO TIME, as workman kango drilled a concrete wall To dust just 20 yards from our patio on the multi-storey worksite. This went on All day until 5pm. It was a two day trip away for some peace. The constant smell of cannabis and the super dodgy characters that adorned the front of the hotel made it feel as though you were in a halfway house rather than a hotel. There was a trail of blood from two streets away that led to the hotel enterance, I think it was usefull for some Of the guests to help them when they were crawling home but for me, well I found it quite off putting and slightly disturbing. To say this is supposed to be a 4*, 4 1/2*on booking dot con makes me seriously question the genuineness of the feedback and ratings For this place. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

"Pleasant stay but rooms could be improved."

User 24/07/2020

Hotel is in a good location as it's only a few minutes walk away from the city centre. Reception area was lovely & the dining area looked nice too, however the room itself could have been cleaner. The bed side tables were very dusty and the carpet was also quite dirty. Definitely needed a Hoover and a clean. Our room also had a broken window which wasn't too much of a problem for us as we like a cool room but we were unable to close it if we had wanted to. On the other hand the bathroom was great. Spacious & clean with a good shower, I just think the rooms and the corridors etc could do with a bit of a spruce up. Overall a pleasant stay but don't think we will be in a rush to stay here again.

"Disappointing visit."

2
User 23/07/2020

Me and my partner had stayed here previous to our latest visit and had a lovely experience, we had booked an executive room (for our first visit) and received a gorgeous, spacious room on the first floor with a bath and a kitchen area. Hoping to receive the same on our second visit - We were met with disappointment to discover we were on the 4th floor, of which had no internet signal, no bath like we requested, the mini fridge absolutely stunk and the room was filled with the scent of weed from the apartment above us. As we were booking in for our stay there was a woman complaining about the same issue. Upon speaking to the reception desk we were met with a member of staff who flat out denied the scent, and did nothing but dismiss our claims about the above flat. Upon reading other reviews on the same day, we discovered that the Richmond is currently providing housing for the cities homeless; which, would not be a problem HAD we been made aware upon booking. To make the situation worse the same apartment above us was blasting music until 2am, and when attempting to ring reception to make a complaint (as the atmosphere in the hotel was far too dodgy to walk about) we didn't get through. Not to mention the housekeeping knocking on our door multiple times asking when we would be leaving the following morning. Me and my partner wanted a relaxing few days away and got the exact opposite - We definitely won't be staying here again, especially not for the price paid, the shocking customer service, lack of transparency and the inconsiderate noise from other hotel guests. Shocking. The experience that guests have seems to be very hit and miss.

Having stayed here before we thought we knew what to expect when we booked a balcony suite here. On arrival we were given key to a room that was damp smelly (cigarette smoke and mould)and frankly very dirty. After a few minutes of being told no other rooms were available we were moved to a much cleaner suite and we settled in. Wanting to take advantage of the sunny balcony we went out and was greeted buy an active building site literally 6feet away and guys with power drills removing concrete walls right outside our window from 8am till around 4pm. No mention of this at checkin. The smell of cannabis being smoked in and around the hotel was pungent and the feeling of walking into a crime drama every time we left the hotel due to the amount of drug dealers parked outside waiting for customers from the hotel was un-nerving to say the least. Liverpool council have housed there cities homeless at the Richmond hotel which they also don't mention on checkin. I understand. That during this covid outbreak measures had been taken to help them and that's great but I would like to have been given a choice on wether or not I would like to join them for my short holiday. All in all I would not go back again and would advise people to spend there money elsewhere.

We definitely recommend this hotel and will certainly be back at some point...a central location and walking distance to all tourist attractions, places of interest. However, the main motivation for this review is to commend the excellent customer service from the whole team. Despite a few issues, some of which were out of the staff 's control, everyone went out of their way to accommodate us and help.... Amanda and Carolina on reception were fantastic and very professional, nothing was too much ţrouble. A special mention to Peter in housekeeping who bent over backwards to help us sort various things. including a fallen down curtain...We really appreciated the consistency of the staff during our 4 day stay, even down to Bianca on the bar who was very attentive and who makes a mean cocktail. Thank you very much!! Jessica and Nic Pegg

Nuno was fantastic, his customer service was second to none! Absolute credit to your hotel!! I cannot fault anything from our visit today. Troy our chef brought our food out for a tasting and each dish was spectacular. I am so happy to be having our wedding at your hotel.Troy really knows his stuff and I know he is going to make it wedding meal amazing!! Thank you so much Troy and Nuno xxx

We met with Troy and Nuno who will be hosting our wedding next month. Their attention to detail and lovely food have reassured us that our special day will go without a hitch and that are guests will be well fed and watered.

I just recently came back from a Richmond hotel and I have something to tell you. I have never seen such an interesting interior as this Hotel have. As soon as you enter the Hotel, you feel that you have gone back in time to the time when there were massive ceilings and spacious windows. But back to the point: My girlfriend prepared a surprise for me for my birthday. She booked a room and asked the staff for an early c / in because she wanted to decorate and prepare everything for my arrival. When she had called from the reception that our room was ready, my girlfriend came to the Hotel, where two employees were already waiting for her. Carolina from Reception and Peter from Housekeeping explained to her that they had prepared a small surprise for both of us. We had a beautiful room with a balcony, which we didn't expect at all, because my girlfriend only booked an executive room. Peter and Carolina explained to us that they wanted to make us happy and have a nice time at the Richmond Hotel. Before I arrived, Peter took my girlfriend to the room and showed her the room as well as explained what the room it contains. The room was beautiful with a high quality cleaning and a good smell. The bed was large and very comfortable It can be seen that the hotel takes care of its reputation during this pandemic. I appreciate the great standard and professional approach of these two employees, which made my birthday more enjoyable. We will definitely be back there one day James

Myself and my partner stayed at The Richmond hotel over the weekend, upon arriving the lovely Amanda on reception was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome from the get go. Our room was super clean along with the rest of the hotel, excellent value for money and extremely close to the town centre. We would definitely recommend the hotel and be back as soon as possible Thanks for a lovely stay.
