    « Birthday »

My husband booked this hotel for a one night stay with dinner and breakfast for my birthday. Good car park, friendly staff. We had a deluxe room with a small balcony overlooking the Cathedral. It's is a short walk to the Cathedral quarter and Castle. We had dinner at the hotel which was excellent and breakfast was too...lots of choices. Would highly recommend. Picture is view from balcony

    « Bland »

Was OK but it's the usual bland big name hotel. Needs a lick of paint. Room was v small but had a view onto the small garden. Room was quiet but v hot. Is in a good location, right outside the cathedral. Paid £147 on booking. Com for a sat night. Won't go back, will try harder next time to book somewhere else earlier

Lovely room with a fantastic view. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The hotel is right next the cathedral and within easy walking distance of the historical and shopping areas. Great breakfast as well!

    « Excellent Hotel »

Stayed as two couples .Could not fault any part of the stay. The rooms ,overlooking the cathedral were clean, comfortable and stylish.Staff on reception were friendly and efficient and the restaurant served reasonably priced and well presented food.Breakfast was an extensive buffet of hot and cold food . We used a "Secret Escapes" deal and consider it great value. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

    « Nice hotel »

Lovely place to stay for a visit to Lincoln. The hotel offered everything we needed. The people on reception were very friendly and helpful as were all the staff. Great breakfast and nice evening meal. Room clean and tidy, bed comfy, bathroom good, although pop up waste needs attention, but that is a minor detail. The view of the cathedral from our room ( 214) was perfect. Parking at hotel worth the small charge. Over all a very enjoyable stay!

« Fab and right next to the Catherdral »

We had a great stay at this hotel. From the minute we arrived until we left the staff were welcoming, helpful and always had a smile. Our room, on the second floor, was fine with a wonderful view of the Cathedral and if you are wondering, the bells stopped at 10pm and started again at 7am so did not disturb your sleep. Eating was very good with a varied and plentiful breakfast overlooking the Cathedral and the evening meal menu was also very good. My steak was perfect. We would also like to thank Gemma who looked after us so well in the restaurant. The location was perfect for the Cathedral and the upper town with many fine shops and places to to have tea. The hotel is looking a little tired and could do with freshening up. I hope the managers appreciate their staff who are a credit to the hotel.

« May Bank holiday away »

The Lincoln Hotel is situated near the Cathedral and short walk to the castle. We parked the car in the hotel car park (entrance at the side of the Hotel) on Sunday and did not go back to it until Tuesday, £5 for parking for that time is worth it. All the staff are friendly and helpful, the Green Room restaurant is very good but book your table at weekends. The room we had was a superior facing the Cathedral. a very nice view.

« Brilliant location, good two nights stay. »

Paid a little extra for a room with a balcony overlooking the Cathedral. Good size, well equipped, all facilities, clean and comfortable. Staff good. Parking on site which normally attracts a small charge, but was complimentary for some reason. Ate out in town one night and visited Brayford Pool. Had a smart dinner in the restaurant the other night. Managed to see the Cathedral and Castle in some detail. Very good breakfast but short on staff which meant some delays. 1960s building is architecturally at odds with the early medieval Cathedral.

« Not good value for money »

The hotel is looking rather dated and in need of a makeover. The staff lacked training and customer service and satisfaction seemed a low priority. The bar staff won't serve you until they are ready - and the reception staff are not interested enough to ask "if everything was ok with your stay." Basically, buget standard and inflated prices.

    « Good Location »

A 2 night stay, Hotel is well located with car park on site. Great views of the Cathedral. Rooms were clean perhaps in need of a little refurbishment. We requested interconnecting rooms with one room being an easy access room and this was accommodated in our booking. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Our rate included dinner in The Green Room and we were impressed by the quality of the food and service. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice. Only one negative comment - we had dined out for lunch on our second day and, therefore, in the evening we really only wanted a sandwich and glass of wine for supper, however, the lounge bar only serves until 5 pm. The the only choice for residents after 5 pm is The Green Room. Cellar Bar (which doesn't have much atmosphere, or Room Service. Just a small point but other than that the hotel is good value, excellent location with professional and efficient staff

« Excellent position and view »

This hotel is really the sum of its parts.Booking was clear , car park well indicated , reception staff good , room with view of Cathedral, dinner in the Green Room was of a high standard equally so was the breakfast. All staff competent and friendly.Well done.

« A very comfortable stay in a great setting »

Only 1 night but a very comfortable one. Good sized room with a big comfortable bed. Fine views of the Cathedral. Clean bathroom and shower. Very pleasant dinner (an organised event and not with all the guests) and a very good breakfast the following morning. The staff were friendly and professional. Car parking easy but the car did fill up by early evening. For a hotel with easy access to Lincoln attractions this hotel would be hard to beat.

    « Excellent location »

Stayed for 2 nights, fantastic location facing Lincoln Cathedral. All staff were very friendly and helpful Room clean and well appointed with plug sockets Breakfast was wonderful on site parking at very reasonable rates Would recommend and will stay again

    « Churchil »

The service was exerlent. The staff on reception were extremely helpful. An exerlent breakfast choice and plenty of choices. Lovely location just across the road from the Cathederl easy walking to the old town. Rooms were clean the hotel needs air conditioning and showers not baths would be better and safer than baths. I would definitely stay again.

« Great location by the Cathedral »

We stayed on a Secret Escapes deal - deluxe room and breakfast. We really enjoyed our visit, the room was comfortable, the balcony and view were great and breakfast was very good. If we had to be critical of anything I would say the bathroom wasn't deluxe - we certainly didn't have a walk in shower like another reviewer! Overall, a positive experience - we would visit again.

    4
    « Great views »

We were given a Virgin Experience Days voucher for two nights and dinner on the first night, for this hotel. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. Dinner at The Green Room was very good. The best feature of this hotel is the location and if your room faces the Lincoln Cathedral, waking up to a view of the looming cathedral.

« Nice Hotel, Great Location »

Stayed here for 3 nights. My room had a nice view of a park area and was clean and quiet. The furnishing and carpet could do with updating, but it was very clean, The location across the street from Lincoln Cathedral is great and that was the focus of the visit. Would stay again.

« Perfect position by the Cathedral »

We got a Secret Escapes deal for a deluxe room overlooking the cathedral and it did not disappoint. On the third floor the rooms have a small balcony that I could have sat on all day just watching the changes around the cathedral. The room was really comfy, air conditioning, good bed and a walk in shower. Coffee and tea available in the room including a Nespresso machine. The building is a sixties block and doesn't really add much to the surrounding area but the decor inside is very sixties and looks newly done. There is a good car park at the back of the hotel. If there were any problems they were around breakfast and enduring the food you may want was available when you wanted it but there was never too much of a wait. Enjoy you stay.

    « One noght stay »

Stayed at The Lincoln on recommendation and not disappointed. Room was extremely comfortable with great view over the Cathedral. Staff were very friendly and nothing was any trouble for them. I would have no hesitation staying again

« Nice room, shame about the lack of breakfast »

Arrived at the hotel about 8pm at night, sat nav took us to the front of the hotel and had to Google to find the car park, which is round the back. Could do with a sign at the front to direct guests. There was ample car parking and a walkway to the back entrance of the hotel. Check in was very quick and we were directed to our room. The room was nice, with a lovely view of the Cathedral. I would definitely recommend booking a Superior Room as without the view, our stay would have been much less enjoyable. Two nice chairs and a table in the room and ample clothes storage. I thought there was a lack of plug sockets though, which always makes it difficult when charging phones, watching tv and wanting to use the kettle, etc. The tea and coffee was good; it was really nice to see a selection of fruit teas. The toiletries in the bathroom were good also and the shower nice. We did have an issue with our toilet not flushing and on the first night had to fill the cistern with water via the kettle. This seemed to resolve itself by the next morning otherwise we would have reported this. Room service was great, delivered promptly in a nice picnic basket. The biggest disappointment for us was breakfast on the first morning. Breakfast was advertised as being served until 9.30am, we arrived at the room at 9am to find all (except the mushrooms) the hot food trays empty. Although the food is nicely presented with some alternative options (we managed to see the next day!) e.g. fish and cold meats, the lack of any hot food was disappointing. Even the toast had run out. When questioned, the waitress delivered some beans but no sausages, bacon, etc. The menu states that non-guests can eat breakfast at a cost of £11.50- very expensive to have nothing. When we mentioned this we were told 'Oh dear, they'll be some tomorrow'. We were seated in the far window, right next to the hot trays. The sun was glaring through the thin curtain, meaning I couldn't look at my partner and the heat was ridiculous. The Reception staff were friendly and helpful; booking taxis, etc and the hotel is well situated for a wander down steep hill.

    « Great, stay »

We stayed at the hotel 18th-20th March, we got a deal through Virgin experiences and have to say that it was great value for money, it included two nights stay, breakfast both days and an allowance towards dinner on the first night. Location of the hotel is fantastic, beautiful view of the Cathedral and just a short walk to most of the major sites you would want to visit. Restaurant was ok, food was nice and they dealt with my allergy requirements fantastically, only downside is the restaurant only had a few tables being used the night we dined there and it was quiet and lacked atmosphere. Room was clean and comfortable, it was snowing when we arrived and extremely cold outside so we were delighted to find that are rooms were kept warm at all times. Staff were friendly and made you feel welcome. Would definitely recommend staying here.

« Weekend visit to lincoln. »

« Good staff, shame about the hotel. »

This is a sprawling hotel, decorated with outdated wallpaper and furnishings. The lounge, half carpeted, has no comfort with old fashioned chairs and the wallpaper is terribly outdated. The huge windows make the room seem cold although they do look over the Cathedral. The dining room chairs are spindly, see through items, which look as though they wouldn't hold any great weight. There is no discernible disabled entrance with quite steep steps leading up to the front entrance. The bedrooms where we were, were just boxes although it is understood there are better rooms. The bed was comfy though. The meals at dinner were 'haut cuisine' which is rather sparse although the soup was delicious. Not a hotel we would go to again. However, the staff were really excellent. Best Western can do much better than this.

« Good value great position »

The room was very clean...Very comfy bed .Plenty of quality towel in the bathroom and toiletries provided. Free internet . Hairdryer. The breakfast was excellent with a great choice rabbit from a full English to cereals, salmon and Danish pastries.....And plenty of it. The hotel is in great position opposite the cathedral. Although were were able to leave the car in the car park after checking out so we could go into town, we had to pay a small fee when checking in to leave the car there. I don't think that you should have to pay to use the car park as you are a guest. Other than this a great hotel and good value.

« one night stay in lincoln »

Booked this as surprise for my wife as we love Lincoln. Hotel is in great location next to the cathedral and pubs/restaurants, also private parking onsite. We booked a king deluxe room which had good views of cathedral and a small balcony. The room was spacious and quiet but unfortunately the bed was very poor and worn with creaks and groans at every move we slept very poor, the bed head was also badly stained by use and needed a clean. Room overall tho was clean. Breakfast was buffet style, plenty of choice and tastey. Staff overall helpful and cheery. Complained about bed at checkout but think it fell on deaf ears, fact we had no sleep didn't seem to bother the lady at all.

    « A delightful afternoon tea. »

Top marks for the afternoon teas in the retro style lounge area,Started with a glass of sparkling wine followed by the concept picnic style tea.The cakes scones and sandwiches ,all yummy were presented on a miniature style picnic bench complete with checked table cloth and accessories, even the pebbles were edible,Fantastic concept and high quality food together with excellent service guarantees a superb teatime treat.

« A lovely hotel with friendly staff! »

We stayed in a Superior Room with a balcony looking directly at the Cathedral. We were spending a weekend to attend a family wedding. The room was spacious, well-equipped & very comfortable, with lots of little extras, like an ironing board & iron in the room. The staff were so very friendly, especially Blaine on Reception who helped us in a crisis after we locked our car keys in our car, which necessitated us to stay an extra night! We would thoroughly recommended this hotel - close to the Cathedral & town!

« Great place to stay »

Hotel is situated right opposite the cathedral. Great location for exploring the town. Room was spacious and clean with superb view. Staff were friendly, smart and helpful at all times. The hotel restaurant was wonderful and we had a lovely meal, I look forward to returning soon.

    « Very good hotel »

We chose the Lincoln Hotel mainly for it's position however we were very pleasantly surprised with the hotel overall. There is car parking on site in a large car park. The check in process was trouble free and the receptionist very friendly. We had a deluxe room with views of the cathedral. The room itself was a good size with a decent size bathroom and one of the comfiest hotel beds we have slept in for a long time. The first night was very warm. The following day we found that, apart from the central heating, there was also a plug in heater which was plugged in and turned on. Once that was turned off the second night was just right. The hotel was very quiet at night and we both enjoyed a good nights kip. We tend to steer clear of hotel restaurants however we decided to give the Green Room a try. We were both glad that we did. The food was excellent and the service top notch. The hotel bar is well stocked and the service is quick. The whole hotel has a very good retro feel from the wallpaper to the light fittings. Some people may not like that but we thought it was very well done. Breakfast was also very good. All the food was well prepared on the hot plates. We even saw a member of staff using a thermometer to check that it was the correct temperature! It is within easy walking distance of both the Castle and the Cathedral. There are numerous good pubs also within easy walking distance. To get into the centre you have to walk down and back up Steep Hill which is aptly named. Alternatively you can take the regular bus service from just outside the castle. All in all a very enjoyable stay. There were a couple of small points but not enough to stop us giving it five stars. We would recommend it.

Really enjoyed our stay, clean room and beautiful view from the room!!! We enjoyed our breakfast all staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel :) Look forward to come in again for our wedding.

    « Friendly and Welcoming »

My husband and I chose Lincoln Hotel due to the location, having never stayed there before. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the hotel was clean, warm and modern. We had a meal in the restaurant on the first night and it was faultless and surprising good value for money. If you want to lay in after 8 am, then you may have an issue with the Cathedral bells, but Lincoln is alive early in the morning with so much to see and do. Situated north of the Cathedral, far enough to be from center, but two minutes walk you are in the hustle and bustle of it all. If we had to make a comment about 'would be better if', it would only be that they have no pool which we would have to consider if we were to take the children on a mini break. However, my husband and I will definitely go back.

    « Eastgate revisited »

The hotel was built in 1960's, and retains that distinctive 1960's style, but still being clean and fresh. Well presented and in pole position for Lincoln's prime tourist attraction, the stunning Cathedral. Our room had a superb view of the Cathedral, directly opposite the Hotel. Great service, polite, helpful staff, high standards of cleanliness and good food. On site parking, brilliant position to explore the historic, uphill square mile, castle and if not eating at the hotel, many other bars and restaurants nearby. This would always be my first choice for quality and value when visiting Lincoln.

    « Overnight business stay »

Having stayed at the hotel on numerous occasions before i was lucky to be upgraded to one of the executive room's and it was a very welcome upgrade. Sitting area, coffee machine and more space. Oh and not forgetting the balcony with fantastic views of the cathedral. Always warm and friendly staff, great breakfast and all round another great comfortable stay. I used to try other hotels in Lincoln but just book this hotel everyone now.

    « Overpriced »

We booked the ?Green Room' for a family function, not only did they struggle to find our booking to begin with but upon entering the room it was freezing. We were told by the manager (or so we were told) that the heating would turn on at 4:30 (we arrived at 4), yet by 7:30 it was still not on despite us asking. The room would be more suited to the name the ?Dark Room', even though we had all of the lights on, blinds up, it was still dark and was made even worse by the large image on the centre wall. It didn't end there, we had chosen and pre-ordered our food as they had asked yet it still took a few hours to receive all courses, so much so some of our relatives had to cancel 3 rescheduled taxis. When we asked where the food was the waiters just shrugged and disappeared. The portions were tiny, there were only 6 pieces of gnocchi on a plate! We asked for sauces, vinegar etc but by the time it arrived, everyone had finished eating. It was also incredibly overpriced. It seems as though it's a 3 star trying to be 5 but not very convincingly.

    « Lovely stay »

My friend and I booked this hotel for 2 nights for our husbands Christmas presents from Secret EscapesThe week before our visit would have been impossible due to snow, but when I had contacted the hotel, they had assured me that if the weather prevented us from travelling, they would happily rearrange. Excellent. As it happened, we were fine. The bar was a bit short of wine on arrival as they had not had a delivery for over a week, but soon remedied. We were struck by how helpful and friendly the staff were. Our rooms had fabulous views of the Cathedral, and we had large walk in showers! The bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed both breakfasts, and had a very nice dinner in the hotel on the first night. The hotel is perfectly placed for visiting the Cathedral, castle and old town. A delightful stay, and thank you to all staff, everyone was so helpful.

« Don't be put off by the view from the exterior. »

This is a Best Western Hotel although you'd never know that from outside - it looks more like a 'clubby' type place. Reception is very friendly and we were quite quickly processed. The view from our room was pretty nondescript as was the room itself - which was amazingly hot and stuffy on the first night - by night two we'd turned the radiator off and opened the window - unlikely actions when the outside temperature was so low! Everywhere seemed clean and tidy although paintwork in need of a bit of TLC. Neither the bathroom or the ladies had toilet brushes - an omission we felt. The buffet breakfast is amazing ( £11??) - all the usual items, but in addition there was a platter of smoked fish - salmon, trout and mackeral. To order were smoked haddock and, I think, kippers. The breakfast room faces the cathedral over the front garden area. This is covered in artificial grass whch unfortuately seems to be used as a short cut for the general public, which means that there is a walk way clearly shaded. The Lincoln city centre bus stops right at the side of the building.

gift from daughter for xmas -- lovely view over looking the cathedral --Cathryn our waitress was pleasant-- not rushed--enjoyed our afternoon tea --have stayed at the Lincoln 3 times in the past -would return for both tea and accomodation PS we only live 5 miles away

« Great place for a lunch or dinner »

We visited for dinner at 7.30 pm - easy parking behind hotel, very pleasant little restaurant and attentive staff. Meals superb - but you do need the extra veg with the mains. Recommend scallops to start an lamb was excellent as a main. Excellent view of cathedral.

    5
« Great hotel. Fantastic location »

We had a first floor, cathedral view room and couldn't have asked for more. The room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. The hotel is ideally located for walking into the city and castle and we had no need to use our car all weekend. Dinner in the Green Room was lovely and wine a decent price. Very good breakfast in a spacious room the first day, but due to a wedding party the following day breakfast moved to spread over a couple of rooms, which meant trudging quite a way to get food. That said, once again breakfast was very good and plentiful. Would absolutely recommend this hotel. All staff were great, especially reception.

    « Fabulous for lunch »

Great location, lovely retro lounge with views of the Cathedral and a relaxed atmosphere. Excellent choice of sandwiches, salads, afternoon tea or cream teas. The chips are the best I've ever had. Would definitely go again.

« Excellent view of cathedral »

Just returned from a 2 day break. Lovely hotel and lovely to see the cathedral. Our room was very nice and warm, the only gripe we had was that the corridors were very cold has no sign of radiators, also the loung/bar area was very cold, at times the air con seemed to be on. we wud of spent more time in the lounge/bar area if it had been warmer.I would of given it 5 stars if the public areas had been warmer.

    5
    « Favourite hotel »

This is one of my favourite hotels. We were on the Friday package which gets you a room with a cathedral view, breakfast, three course a la carte dinner and a bottle of prosecco for £140 for two people. Fantastic value. The dinner was excellent with no restrictions on what we could order in the price. A small but useful point is that the room had two comfortable armchairs so you don't have to sit on the bed to read or watch TV. Too many mid price hotels lack this basic comfort.

    4
    « Overnight business trip »

Hotel has easy parking (with extra surcharge), with accessible reception (well lit walkway). Room was good and clean with opening doors to small patio with Lincoln Cathedral in view (nice on summers morning/evening). WiFi easily found and used. Breakfast was great, with a wide variety of foods/drink available - well presented (buffet style) with extras available if required. Location good for evening restaurants and bars around bailgate and surrounding area.

« Nice 2 day break. Very comfortable bed. »

This is a nice hotel, it is at the top of a long steep hill, so be prepared!. We had a deluxe room. It was spacious and comfortable, although a little dated. The bed was really really comfortable, we slept well. The only drawback for us was breakfast on our second day, a Saturday. They ran out of several food items at the same time, scrambled egg, bacon, sausages. It took a while for supplies to arrive. Customers were frustrated. All that the serving staff could do was wait and apologise. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Would go back.

    4
    « Comfortable »

Excellent breakfast. Great central location. My room which was a standard room was pretty badly in need of an upgrade with patched paint on the walls, very tired bathroom but it was perfectly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable and it was quiet as it was at the back of the hotel. If you want a room with a view you need to be at the front of the hotel overlooking the cathedral.

    3
    « Excellent Location »

This hotel is located at the top of Steep Hill alongside Lincoln cathedral. Average sized room with slightly dated decor but very clean.Reception staff welcoming and check in was easy and prompt. Breakfast room overlooking the cathedral. Good variety of food but I kept having to ask for refills as serving bowls were empty. Took three attempts to get some drinking water. However when it did arrive I had a large bottle to myself. I asked for this when I arrived for the rest of my stay as it saved trying to catch the staff's attention. On the whole a pleasant stay. Convenient for people looking to visit the cathedral.

« Top marks for the lady on reception »

It was only a last minute one night stay but I seemed to have cocked up the booking (made via a 3rd party website) as there was no record of us being expected. I, inadvertently, had somehow booked for 7 days later. Thankfully no fuss at all was made and we were allocated an available room. She didn't need to speak to anyone else, just dealt with it efficiently and politely when the hotel were not at fault. The truth is they probably could have got away with charging me more than I'd paid as when I looked (on the decent free WiFi) it turns out it was at least £30 more for 'that' day than the one I'd actually booked. I'm neither clever enough or brave enough to try that again as it could have left us sleeping in the car! Thinking about it I don't think the original booking included breakfast but we got that too, so bonus. I was a little hungover so nibbled a croissant - my other half decided to go for haddock and poached egg and very decent it was by all accounts. Maybe everyone gets it and I'd just not noticed. No surprise given I clearly didn't notice the date I'd booked it for. Anyway, I wouldn't have wanted to pay more as the room was a little dated. Clean enough and the bed was comfy and the temperature just right. Coming in from the rear entrance by the car park (I was charged £5) the place reminded me a little of an 80s old people's home, both in smell and in style. The lift is not that recent though and made a noise like a asthmatic wart-hog with the grave warning not to overfill it with humans probably scary enough to put some off riding it.

« Location ideal for whatever you plan to do in Lincoln »

This visit was a special deal but we did not have less than expected experience. Room was warm, comfortable with everything we needed plus was quiet. Perfect location for exploring all ' levels'!! Of the city and with a car park we used our car as well to visit the International Bomber Command Centre. The hotel has various restaurants/bars and they were both worth visiting. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast had lots of choice plus you could order extra, constantly checked so it did not run out - then the view of the Cathredral. Perfect. We live less than an hour away but wanted to spoil ourselves , on our 40th wedding anniversary, and take time to get to know Lincoln better.

    « Group weekend break »

Visited this Hotel as a group of eight in February 2018. Very pleasant stay with good food and accommodation that was made special by all of the staff who all went out of their way to make our stay that much better. On the night that Bar 67 was close send, they set up a space for us to have the Bar 67 menu in the main Hotel which was a really great gesture. Specific thanks to Rob for looking after us all that evening. Only slight negative is that the Hotel is looking a bit tired but it's location in the heart of the City should not be overlooked.

« Super location for the cathedral »

Superb location literally opposite the cathedral and within walking distance of some nice bars and eating places. It also has a good size car park on site. Didn't eat in the hotel but the room was comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Not a particularly pretty hotel but the staff were very friendly.

Great location and we upgraded for a Cathedral view. The balcony area was very dated and needed modifying. The outside was quite shabby. The heater didn't appear to work particularly well hence a 2nd wall heater. The wires for the TV were hanging down the wall and also up high to the plug sockets, looked messy considering the room had recently been decorated quite well. The room was clean and had all the amenities you needed. When travelling to the area we usually pick a more country retreat hotel which is much nicer and cheaper if I am honest but I guess this is what you pay for a central hotel. We were disappointed that we couldn't book the restaurant for an evening meal as it was fully booked but luckily we found a great Thai round the corner and some great cocktail bars. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice, better than most buffet style set ups. Food was piping hot and staff very friendly. If you need somewhere central for a night then you won't be disappointed but I wouldn't say it's value for money. Also be aware the bells start ringing at the Cathedral at 7am everyday and seem to go off every 15 minutes, so if you need your sleep this won't be the place for you unless you have ear plugs!

    « A very convenient hotel »

This hotel is well situated for a visit to the city of Lincoln. It is located directly opposite the cathedral and convenient for the centre of the town. Our room was small and comfortable but suffered from the disadvantage of overlooking, and being overlooked by, rooms directly opposite. The staff were friendly and hospitable. I think that we were there with Susan F.

« Great Staff at Hotel »

The hotel looks dated from the outside and very 1960's which it is. The Reception is rather stark and again decorated in the 60's style. This was more than compensated for by the welcome from the staff who were efficient, friendly and helpful. The food in the Green Room was of a high standard and excellent value with, once again, exceptional staff. Breakfast was a self service affair and was fine but no plate warmer was a disappointing. Stayed in a superior room facing the cathedral with shower but no bath and was rather darkly lit at night Overall a good experience and would readily stay again

« Centrally located hotel good for old Lincoln and easy access to city »

Very welcoming hotel friendly staff in reception and bar....room very clean and comfortable good value ....only downside was the breakfast....on both days not very well organised kept running out of all types of food....it did all come eventually....so lucky we were not in a hurry Great location for castle , cathedral and bailgate

    « Weekend break »

Absolutely loved it here Stayed in the old part of the hotel in the very nice princess suite. Staff were friendly helpful and very pleasant. Food in the Green room was of excellent quality and breakfast was also very good. Hotel has stuck to it's 1960s deco / design but kept in touch also with the modern era. Our room was spotlessly clean and had a very comfortable bed. So convenient for all the sights of historical Lincoln. Will definitely use this hotel again

« Ideal city break hotel »

Shame about the dreadful 1960s "police station " architecture but once inside the hotel is very comfortable. Tiny quibble about the room - electric sockets few and far between; we're used to American usb socketed bedside lamps. Also, why don't British hotels provide flannels? Breakfast was superb, we didn't eat again until 18.00! Didn't try any of the in-house catering because it is so easy to get to the many eat/drink venues in the old city. Lovely stay, highly recommend Lincoln and this hotel

    « Great location, needs a wow »

Liked the loyalty to its original 60's Architecture but needs a good scrub, smells trapped in the landing carpets are quite overpowering for example. No idea why there's a £5 car park charge, your either a guest or not!

    « Said we'd come again! »

We've stayed here before but this time we were just clocking in before a concert in the cathedral. Think it used to be called the Eastgate but it doesn't matter, this is a friendly well run hotel and we are happy to recommend. I enjoyed being a fly on the wall as the orchestra for the concert checked in. Will arrange another stay here - a great base for a wonderful city.

« two nice days spent in Lincoln »

We booked a couple of days at The Lincoln Hotel as a twixtmas break Staff are very welcoming and engaging. Our room was fine and the fact that there was an internal connecting door on both side suggests possible connection with adjoining rooms, this a definite plus for a small group or family. The room was clean and comfortable The en-suite has a shower over the bath which is not a problem usually but for us oldies less accessible, next time I shall ask for a walk in shower. This hotel is clearly a 60's build though for the most part the refurb has been a success .Our room was a bit of a treck so we know next time to check before booking. The dining room and lounge on the upper level has a truly magnificent view of Lincoln Cathedral. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice, well done the Lincoln, the Lincolnshire sausages were excellent. We ate in the Green Room restaurant one evening. this was fine with a good menu and not over priced wine list. One couldn't help but have the feel we were in a cellar - despite a window seat. Had we discovered bar 67 before our departure we would have probably headed in that direction. This hotel is perfectly placed for visiting this lovely city; the Cathedral Castle and upper town literally a few paces away. recommended and one on our list for a return

« Lovely room and service »

Stayed for a sat night deluxe room with cathedral view the room was lovely had all the little extras robes which were a good size! Slippers coffee machine and a small balcony, the ged was huge and very comfortable We had afternoon antipasti £12 for 2 of us and it was huge! But delicious Breakfast was amazing with everything you could think of freshly made and excellent service throughout our stay Very impressed with the hotel as we had to cancel this booking twice due to me having an Achilles injury and they honoured the room and price Will certainly visit again even if we only live in louth 26 miles away! Thanks for a lovely stay

    « New Years Eve »

As "the family" live in different locations around the country, we try and get together at the New Year, each year trying a different location. The Lincoln Hotel was a good choice. The evening was well organised, food was excellent, wine was spot on (Merlot), and a good time was had by all. Standard rooms are clean and "cozy" for a short stay but for a longer duration, an upgrade would be required (more room to swing the cat). Staff are friendly, discreet, but there when you want to order something. The cherry on the top has to be the food. Breakfast choice was good and filling but the evening meal we had on the second night was up there with the best. Deciding what to order was easy as each course had only half a dozen or so choices which took away the "I can't decide factor" and everything was cooked to perfection. If you live local, a visit just for the food is recommended. Hats off to the chef and the kitchen staff. Would "the family" book the New Year Bash again.............. you bet we would.

« Very good value in the cultural area »

I had a good room with all the amenities for a two night stay. The bed was comfortable and a good buffet breakfast was provided with a great selection of both traditional and continental food. The hotel is in the cultural area of Lincoln where most of the older buildings, cathedral and castle are located. It is within easy walking distance of these and, a number of restaurants and pubs.

    « Friday night concert »

Overall a pleasant stay, staff friendly and room quite sufficient for our overnight stay, bed extremely comfortable and breakfast tasty with bonus of window table. Would have liked a teapot for our tea however and I guess I'm old fashioned with wanting waitress/waiter service rather than self service buffet which most hotels seem to go for. Would stay here again though, good location and my husband loved the shower which says it all...

    « Weekend stay »

Excellent location with a view of Lincoln Cathedral and a short walk into the centre. Built in the 1960's but with some modernisation. Good choice for breakfast - cooked buffet and wide choice of continental and cereals. Comfortable rooms and bed, although avoid room 215 as you can hear the noisy lift very easily! Helpful and welcoming staff. Also a bar in the evening and lunches - although we stayed in the city. Free car park with code needed to leave. Would stay for a weekend again. We stayed the first weekend in January so it was lovely and quiet everywhere.

« It was probably nice in the 60's »

Well, from the outside it's about as appealing as a wet fart. But I was booked here on business so didn't have a choice. I've walked past it before, a wedding was going on. At the time I think I said 'Why on earth would you want to get married there?!' Having now stayed here I stand by that comment. Walking to the rooms feels like you're on the set of an adult movie from the 60's, everything is so very dated. Alas, I held out hope my room would be an improvement. Whilst it's not quite as retro as the rest of the interior, it's seen and smelt better. The stench comes across as a mix of never aired damp and hospital. Chipped paint on every wall corner, bubbling plaster and a damp wall where the tiles are blown in the bathroom, long hairs on both the bathroom tiles, toilet and windowsill. The worst part is the amount of black mold around the ceiling in the bathroom, why wouldn't you just wipe it down...or even treat it. It's no doubt due to the amount of fur bunging up the air vent, again...it takes two seconds to vacuum. Around the bottom of the shower screen was just grim, corroded metal that had seeped into a sad state of rust and gunk. And that's before you get to the huge spider waiting on the wall when i got back from dinner, the other smaller spider in the corner of the room, the toenail clippings behind the bedside draws, the inch thick dust behind the headboard, the empty shortbread packet between the desk and TV unit, the ripped duvet cover...oh and then there's the welcome pube on the bathroom sink. You can probably see why it took me 10 minutes to muster the courage to get into the shower. I was no doubt the cleanest thing in here. Thank christ I wasn't paying the bill otherwise I'd have left. It may be opposite the Cathedral, but you wouldn't want to leave your dog in this room overnight.

« Average Room. Awesome breakfast »

We stayed over on Saturday 6th January and spent £85 B&B. I'll be honest. I was a little disappointed with our room. It was clean enough, although the vent in the bathroom needed a really good vacuum. There was a broken glass for water in the room which we had to go down and swap out. The bottom sheet on the bed hadn't been put on properly so I had to pull that back on so that I wasn't seeing the mattress. Attention to detail was sadly lacking. For £85 I do expect better. Having said that the room was quiet. We got a really good nights sleep. The shower was amazing. Plenty of hot water and good pressure. Where the hotel redeemed itself was at breakfast. It is amazing! If you get down early enough you can pick a table with views of the Cathedral. The food itself was excellent and so much choice! Cold meats, yogurts, pastries, breads, full english and lots of juice choices too. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is excellent. Within walking distance of the Bail area of Lincoln and if you feel brave enough you can venture down Steep Hill into town. Don't do that in really high heels as I did!! Our room number was 326. It does not have views of the Cathedral but had a small balcony.

    « Great location »

Great location opposite the Cathedral making access to old town easy. Staff were helpful especially Blaine on reception. Breakfast room has great view of the cathedral. Get down early to grab a table by the window.

« Amazing first visit to Lincoln ..enhanced by stay at The Lincoln Hotel over Christmas »

The Lincoln Hotel excelled itself over the Christmas period - the staff were on hand 24/7 always polite and helpful - the deluxe room overlooking cathedral clean comfortable and nicely decorated - waking to the sound of cathedral bells - over a very busy period the food was excellent for a busy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - The Green Restaurant was also delightful and cosy.....we are looking forward to our next stay at the Lincoln Hotel

« Comfortable hotel with good parking within the old city »

Stayed here for a 2 night New Year break with friends. Parking can be an issue in Lincoln so was very pleased to see excellent off road parking at the hotel. Check in was quick and efficient & we found our room after a trip involving lift, stairs and numerous corridors and fire doors. Small, clean comfortable room with double bed and a full sized bath (great after walks) We were in a quiet area with a view of near by mansions & we could see the cathedral slightly. Good double glazing worked well for the church bells. Breakfast was plentiful with options for freshly cooked eggs if required. Lovely view from the dining room. Juices were very watery & some of the buffet breakfast items were dry. Freshly made porridge was excellent. Coffee was OK. The bar was OK and not too expensive but the late bar was cashless, having to put the bill on your room tab. This took time and was unnecessarily complicated for the poor staff members to work. I was told "it is the law" ? As it was New Years Eve they could have had more staff on, I thought. Checkout on New Years Day was busy but efficient & most staff were friendly & courteous. Perfect location to look round the historic city. Lacks charm in building design but makes up for it with parking, location and staff.

    « Birthday weekend »

Have stayed in this hotel numerous times as our son lives nearby. This weekend was to celebrate a special birthday on Saturday 30th December. I was a little disappointed that they only allow you to book a 2 night stay at this time of year and breakfast wasn't included as it has been on previous occasions and at £264 for 2 nights in a superior room I would have expected breakfast included. Breakfast is buffet style and there was smoked salmon - what more could you ask for? The hotel is in an excellent location for the cathedral, castle and Lincolnshire life museum. Brayford quay area is a long walk down the Steep Hill and I would recommend a taxi for the return journey. My husband emailed the hotel as he had ordered some roses for my birthday and there was a box of chocolates and a card awaiting our arrival. I thought this was a really special effort on their part so well done! The only downside I think is the lift - it seemed to bear a grudge against me and the doors trapped me on more than one occasion! It seems a little old and creaky. All in all a great weekend made that little bit special by the thoughtfulness of this hotel.

    « Enjoyable Stay »

In my view, the only downside to our stay was that the hotel charge a car parking fee. I fully understand why they would do this for non residents but to charge your very own customers who stay and dine at the hotel is a bit of a cheek!

    « Christmas disappointment 23-26 Dec »

Hotel overall ok but looking tired, dirty carpets but generally ok, lounge looked good (retro) We had 2 bedrooms. Both were small and tired but ok facilities. When we went into the 2nd room (for my adult son) the bathroom had an open soap, brown water in pan, sticky finger marks on toilet button and a pubic hair on the seat! Not good housekeeping! We got the room changed quickly but still shouldn't have happened Hotel gym was cold and most of equipment was very tired and worn out. Had Christmas Day dinner in hotel in Elizabeth room with family (wanted it to be very special as it will be my dad's last Christmas). Slow service, room not that festive, food basic - nut loaf especially poor, over cooked and small, turkey portion small (only beef meal was a good portion), lots of veg but all sloppy, over cooked and mixed together, coffee took 2 attempts to be sorted (but manager did do this and was helpful), shame about the rest of the service Only positive was the Irish manager who tried to help and sort the coffees, but the rest of the service was dire (and food was sub-standard) Breakfasts - ok but nothing amazing, coffee (in pots) was disgusting, so much so we waited to have decent coffee in the lounge (having to pay extra for that) Overall in hotel service was poor, unhelpful and we felt like we were an inconvenience to the female receptionist. When we went for Americano coffee in lounge (saying we wanted the decent coffee as we didn't like the breakfast coffee) and asked receptionist for it (as nobody at the bar), she got us coffee but just grabbed some breakfast filter coffee for us (not the proper machine coffee, which was right night to her), and still wanted to charge us the £3 each! When we pointed out to her that these were not the proper coffees (and didn't taste nice) she said ?well we are very busy!?, she then huffed and got someone else to make it. We got the proper coffees eventually and were charged the £3 each but didn't get the cookie you were meant to get - but we had given up by then! So disappointing!!

    « Boxing Day Meal »

I booked The Lincoln Hotel for our family Boxing Day meal back in November while looking through there events section on the website. We were a party of 9, 8 adults and a child (2 Year Old). The Hotel has ample parking and is situated across the road from Lincoln Cathedral, we booked in with the reception very smooth and courteous service and were then shown to the function room that had been made over as a dining room. The staff are very courteous, professional and helpful, we had pre-ordered our meals as part of a Boxing Day menu and this all came together flawlessly. All our meals were of a very good standard and tasted fantastic. The dining room was spacious and felt comfortable the hotel and dining areas are welcoming and well decorated. we all enjoyed our family get together the food and the service, thank you.

« This place could be amazing »

Probably the best located hotel in the city opposite the Cathedral, close to the Castle and the individual shops & restaurants of the Bailgate. And a real advantage it has a decent sized car park which was included in our rate. The staff all seemed very welcoming and efficient and the B & B rate we paid for a deluxe double with balcony facing the cathedral was good value. We stayed here in the 1960s soon after it was built and it then represented the latest luxury in hotel accommodation, the main problem is that it hasn't really maintained that feel. The bathroom was small with a combined bath shower, the heating system was an ancient wall mounted electric radiator & a keypad controlled aircon unit neither of which were easy to control and the overall décor was dated. The bed was comfortable and the television a good standard but sleep was interrupted by random noises, which seemed to come from the roof space based utility systems or the resident ghosts ! Breakfast was based on a pre-cooked buffet with cook to order options and was generally good, on our first morning tea was served in a pot as we always prefer, however on the next morning a Saturday it was a serve yourself tea bag in a mug. Apparently this was to save time on busy days, but just gives a poor impression of customer service and reflects an odd attitude towards hospitality. So apart from the nit picking this hotel does offer a full range of facilities and is priced competitively so we would stay again. However one can't help think that whilst it would require major investment this hotel could become 5 star but then the rates would reflect that.

    « Christmas party »

Myself and some colleagues stayed at the hotel after a christmas party. The 3 course meal itself was disappointing, the food was less then mediocre and the staff were like robots running a food line. The hotel amenities themselves were good, the rooms were clean, tidy and had very comfortable beds and bedding. The buffet breakfast the next day was a lot better the the evening meal although it was fairly cold but with a buffet it's not surprising.

« Would Not Recommend Or Stay Here Again. »

A very disappointing stay, and definitely not worth the price paid for a two nights stay.I would say the only positives are the location and the view of the cathedral.I have stayed in much better for the money paid, and have stayed in better at much lower price!! We stayed in a "Superior room" and i don"t understand how they have come to that description! Nothing Superior about the room we had.The carpet was stained, the shower overflowed, and had to wait for it to go down before being used again(I would have complained but we had already complained about first room) This was the second room. After the first full day in Lincoln,we return to room to find our morning cups had just been "washed out" so there are still visible rings around the mugs! The spoons were still dirty, and remnants of coffee still at bottom of mugs! Just totally unacceptable house keeping. The glasses were still there and empty bottle from the night before too.The shelves had to be wiped down before our clothes unpacked. Also to have drinks bought up to your room is £4 before you even order for room service,we walked to the bar just out of principle!.£190 for a two nights stay is just so overpriced for the room and the lack of house keeping.Im not one to leave a negative review, but on the this occasion i needed to let other travelers re-think before staying here,There is no excuse for what we experienced.I have stayed in much better in Lincoln, and a regular visitor. My advise....Have the rooms cleaned as you would like to find them, maybe visit a few hotels nearby to see how hard they work for their guests and returning guests. You wont always be so successful to use the views for your saving grace or location....Very Disappointed.

    « Distinctly disappointing! »

Location fantastic, free car parking - great. That's about where it ends! On arrival we asked if we were able to check in early (If our room was ready)? We were told we would have to wait until 2pm so opted for a drink at the bar to waste the 40 mins until 2pm. Firstly we asked a member of staff which bar we should use, who pointed us in the direction of the bar to the left of reception. We waited & waited & no one arrived, even the girl who had pointed us to the bar (who appeared not be busy) didn't even acknowledge us. Whilst waiting (being next to reception) we noticed that the gentleman who had been behind us was being checked in, so I asked why, to be told that they had just been informed that the rooms were ready. Therefore we went to collect our bags, ready to return to check in..... at this point my husband pointed out that the chap who was checking after us had come out of reception & returned to his vehicle to collect his luggage before we had been turned away?! So we go to check in & I question this. There was no plausible excuse given just apologies. I couldn't & can still not fathom what on earth was going on here. If our room was checked & found not to be ready I'd understand but no check was made, not even our names asked! We then go to our room already deflated because this should have been a relaxing time away & I was already annoyed. The room was dated, with handles hanging off the drawers, bathroom really could have been cleaner with hairs left from previous guest. Bed was clean & very comfortable. It was however really rather cold through the night. We paid extra for breakfast in the morning which was in a soulless room with mediocre ingredients, certainly not worth the money. Overall, overpriced!

    « Disappointing ?? »

Looks a little run down from outside however reception area is nice. Emailed them before hand for a room over looking the cathedral. Not what we got the rooms are basic and a little tired. The bathroom was cold and hot water ran out after a few minutes (room 121). Not worth the money and breakfast is expensive if not Inc. In your room rate. Not enough staff waited at the bar 5mins ended up leaving and going to a pub down the road. The good point is there location but with plenty of accommodation around I would choose somewhere else next time.

    « Perfect hotel »

Just got back yesterday from a lovely weekend in Lincoln with my family. Never stayed over in Lincoln before and it was great visiting at this time of year. Very festive and got into the Christmas spirit. We couldn't have picked a better hotel to stay it. Overlooking the stunning Cathedral we had amazing views, very posh and retro style, friendly and helpful staff, cosy bar area and very yummy breakfast. Our room was perfect and very spacious, great decor and clean. Lovely and warm as well and the beds were so comfy! Didn't want to come home ?? went too quick but hope to stay again in the near future :)

We have just returned from a lovely weekend away in Lincoln. Our stay at your hotel was 5* nothing was too much trouble . Room was clean, comfy bed . The breakfast was the best I've had in a hotel for a long time . The chap on reception was really nice and friendly . Looking forward to going back next year with our friends .

    « Overnight Stay »

The staff were in short supply and bar staff were completely untrained for such a busy time. The staff did not know what measure to use for what drinks. Bedroom smelt of paint and not very clean. The bath and tiles were particularly dirty and did not look like it had been cleaned during our stay. The bathroom floor behind the door was gritty and dirty and the bedroom carpet didn't look like it had seen a vacuum in ages. Beds poorly made. However breakfast was good although we were not shown a menu of what was available other than the buffet

    5
    « Ecellent as always. »

The hotel's site and staff were excellent as always, and our guests, who are used to London's best restaurants, were impressed with the Green Room menu and service. Bar 67 was different -- and very good, though the food was generous for those of us with small appetites.

    « Afternoon Tea »

Visiting the area for Xmas market and this popped up on my Travel Zoo site and with a voucher for a bit off I booked. After 1300 we were done with market but our tea wasn't till 1500 but we were so worn out we went in and much to our delight they accomadated us early. Tea was a festive fashion and plenty to have plus drink including some pro secco which we left till last. As we went to leave the young girl even reminded us about the drinks which we had forgotten and we sat down and finished now that's honesty for you.A great experience with wonderful local people serving us and thank god we didn't have to come back up the hill as our car was at the waterfront

« Ideally situated for the Christmas Market »

We stayed here to visit the Christmas Market which is a stone's throw away, as is the Cathedral which is even nearer. We had a B&B deal but upgraded to Dinner as well for £50 a night. We could probably have eaten cheaper elsewhere but as everywhere was crowded we opted for a guaranteed 3 course meal. The mark of a good hotel is a comfortable bed, hot water and a good breakfast. This had all three. Superb waterfall shower with masses of hot water. Breakfast is a self serve affair, but with extras you can order from the staff such as poached eggs and haddock. There was an excellent choice to suit all tastes and appetites. The evening meal was a set menu with choices of starter, main meal and dessert. It would have become a bit "samey" had we been there longer, but for us it was excellent. The rib-eye steaks were lovely, and cooked to perfection. Our room overlooked the garden and that part of the hotel always seemed colder. In addition it was accessed only by stairs. However in the summer it would be good as you could access the garden from your room patio door. The staff were mainly young but they were helpful, friendly and attentive. They have been well trained and are a credit to the hotel. One very minor niggle and that is that the bathroom had no toilet brush. It is unfair on the housekeeping staff to have to clean away"skidmarks" left by the guests.
