"Excellent location"

Passenger02532882509, Skegness, United Kingdom 18/04/2019

Excellent base to explore the Cathedral quarter and Lincoln Castle area, excellent transport links to and from the shopping area, bus stop on the door step. The staff extremely friendly and accommodating, rooms clean and comfortable, would highly recommend.

"Time to relax and recharge those bateries"

jonjon52, Blackburn, United Kingdom 16/04/2019

This was our second visit this year to the Lincoln Hotel and again we thought it was excellent, We requested a quite room and was given a second floor room with a view of the Cathedral although Church bells might not appeal to everyone we found the chimes calming and appreciated the curfew hours of 10pm -7am Our room was a little on the small size but for 2 people perfectly adequate for us, and we would be happy to use this room again as it was near the back staircase to the reception area. We ate in the Green Room restaurant on one evening, which we would do again, as the food is high end quality and served in a relaxed pace 3 courses in around 2 hours again no point in expecting fast food when everything is cooked to order and has such high standards of presentation plates of food or works of art? I would highly recommend the breakfast area which is one of the best to be found in any hotel very light spacious and with a large range of quality products on offer serving a lot of satisfied customers its noticeable how contended the public appeared on the days we were there.

"Very good hotel"

633DianeM633, Stafford, United Kingdom 15/04/2019

Came here for a one night stay yesterday and we stayed in a Delux room which had the most amazing view of the cathedral. We dined in the Green Room last night and we can honestly say it was one of the best meals that we have had. Service by Steph and Adam was great so friendly and fantastic waitress/waiter service. Breakfast was plentiful, room was lovely. reception very helpful and welcoming . Be mindful that you are at the top of a very steep hill to get into town. Would recommend

"The Lincoln Hotel, Lincoln"

Chris F, London, United Kingdom 15/04/2019

Location is fantastic. Room was good and clean. Noisy at night from music if a wedding reception is on. Get to breakfast early as we experienced a run out of some cold buffet items. Overall, an enjoyable stay.

"What a view"

weekender066, Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom 15/04/2019

Booked 2 nights with Travelzoo, dinner, bed and breakfast. Arrived Friday, paid £5 for all stay, good value. Dinner on both nights wonderful, treated to a glass of fizz each as it was our wedding anniversary. Such lovely service. Live music way too noisy for size of hotel, had to move rooms. Disco only was ok. Bed very comfy, slept well. Charming bells from nearby cathedral, of which we had a fantastic view. Yes shower didn't drain very quick but it was not a problem. Breakfast, well hubby was disappointed no muesli, no plain yogurt on Sunday and hard poached egg. But his eggs Benedict were tasty and my breakfast both mornings were lovely, especially the pastries. All in all a very good, value for money hotel. Just be aware of live music!!

"Excellent meal (xmas do)"

alexw5678, Lincoln, United Kingdom 08/04/2019

Although I didn't stay here, I had my xmas works do here back in 2016 and the food is excellent. Staff was very helpful and even laid on a free drink upon arrival. Couldn't fault a thing. Will definitely consider again for future work events.

"Central Position"

Hihohugh, Thames Ditton, United Kingdom 08/04/2019

Did a special deal with Secret Escapes for a superior room which had a direct view of the Cathedral. Unfortunately there is building work ongoing on the exterior with scaffolding etc. which is probably why there are special deals. Bathroom had been revamped was clean and had a good shower, heating system a bit antiquated. Three course evening meal was included in price - although smallish portions it was well presented and good overall. Unfortunately the potato galette cake part of our fish dish was uncooked in the middle which we pointed out at the time). Hotel is in a great position with good parking. The exterior architecture is unappealing, the interior is fine. Breakfast very disappointing - luke warm. Go for cold fruits/museli etc. In summary excellent position from which to explore city (and the castle is definitely worth a visit too) excellent value, staff helpful, let down by breakfast, go for cold selection or a specially cooked option.

"Excellent stay "

User 06/04/2019

My mother and Auntie stayed here using a virgin experience voucher for two nights whilst visiting. They stayed in room 318 which had a cathedral view from the balcony. We were all very impressed with the standard of the room and the bathroom, very clean and modern with lots of complimentary bits. The reception staff were helpful and polite and nothing was too much of a problem. Breakfast was also very nice with a good selection of food. Just a stones throw from the cathedral, castle and the top of Lincoln shops, pubs and tea rooms. They would love to stay again next time they are visiting.

"Very impressed"

chubbygorn, Sheffield, United Kingdom 05/04/2019

I came here with my wife in April 2019 using a ‘Virgin Experience' voucher. I was very impressed with the hotel. It is in an excellent position with stunning views of the cathedral. There is a large & very reasonably priced car park (£5 for 24h) at the rear and the check-in process was very efficient. Our (deluxe) room was tastefully decorated and had all the mod-cons. We only ate breakfast in the hotel but we're very impressed with the quality of food & service. We would definitely consider returning.

"afternoon tea"

GardenerBill64, Sheffield, United Kingdom 03/04/2019

Appetising afternoon tea served in the lounge overlooking the cathedral. Plenty of tea, delicious sandwiches and cakes served professionally and in a friendly manner. The lounge is tastefully decorated in a 1970's style, it is spacious and quiet despite it being the location for the hotel reception. We'll return in future to enjoy it once again.

"Afternoon tea at the Lincoln Hotsl"

Laurey N, Moulton, null, United Kingdom 01/04/2019

We had booked afternoon tea at the.Lincoln in advance and arrived a little early, we had a.friendly welcome and tea duly arrived, nice selection of savouries and.sweets which were good quality, however we found three of the five jam pots had broken seals and had been used and were served to us,very disappointed to see that these had not been checked before being served to us..These could easily have been contaminated and yet the staff seemed.unconcerned, maybe my background in H and S makes me sensitive but coupled with dirty toilets hand soap in the dispensers I feel.that this hotel needs to raise its game and.quickly too.We paid full price for the tea.

"Business trip"

Malcolm S, Atherstone, United Kingdom 01/04/2019

The hotel is situated right opposite the Cathedral in a lovely setting. There is a feeling of 'faded glory' about some areas of the hotel. The fitness room is good although the equipment is a little dated. Breakfast was a disaster as by 9am they had run out of most food and there were no plates or bowls available. Staff are friendly

"Comfortable, good value hotel in a brilliant location"

JW1066, Hastings, United Kingdom 31/03/2019

The Lincoln Hotel is located just by the cathedral in a wonderful location. Though much of it is modern, it has real charm and is an attractive environment. The staff were consistently helpful and the breakfast was superb. The room was comfortable, large and well furnished, with everything one could need.

Fantastic staff and service. Room spotless and comfy bed. Breakfast was great with lots of choice. Location as good as it gets. The welcome and service from all staff was second to none. A credit to the Hotel.

User 15/03/2019

I booked a table for 5 for afternoon tea to celebrate my birthday. The service was excellent and Lauren our server was lovely and helpful. All our dietary needs were catered for and the food was beautiful. Will definitely be visiting again .

"Afternoon tea"

taylaboo, Great Yarmouth 14/03/2019

On a visit to Lincoln our son and daughter in law gave us a voucher for afternoon tea at this hotel. We were given roast beef and cheese and pickle sandwiches, scones and cakes with one cup of coffee. It definitely wasn't worth £30 and although we wanted more coffee the staff had disappeared and nobody came to clear the table. Very poor

Lucymartin99, Derby, United Kingdom 13/03/2019

Rooms are standard. Great location. Good food in the Green Restaurant. Poor breakfast. Hot buffet was cold. Staff were rude and unprofessional. Very disappointing when we are returning customers to The Lincoln Hotel, I am sad to say we will be reluctant to return again due to the poor customer service.

"Great hotel in a fantastic location"

SueCoot, Dunstable, United Kingdom 28/02/2019

The staff where friendly, polite and professional from the time we booked in. We had a room over looking the cathedral it was bright and light. Food was very good and there was a good selection. We didn't eat breakfast at the Lincoln as we were out most of the day and there were plenty of places to eat. Wig and Mitre is worth a visit as the food is excellent. We were close to the castle and had a lovely day exploring the area.

Left this a few days, distance lends enchantment, o no it doesn't. A late 20th century modern box albeit in a great location, soulless, characterless and well well overdue a makeover. Our room a superior one (only because of the view) had chipped doors chipped paintwork and a table with its formica covering on one edge long lost. In a nutshell tatty and tired. I forgot, an ironing board that looked rather lost and homeless. On to the breakfast, mentioned by many I discovered after the event (we unusually for us did not research before hand). Possibly the worst black pudding known to man, too thin, dry and concretey, get there early to avoid the drying out syndrome for the rest of the cooked meal. What hotel charges for its' own car park ? The website says £5 per day but actually charged at £5 for your stay. The staff were lovely, willing, helpful and friendly. We will not be returning and nor we subsequently discovered have any of our friends friends who have stayed here in the past, pity we weren't forewarned

"Overnight stay"

MRF6564, York, United Kingdom 27/02/2019

We called here to ask about availability for that night I was told it would be £113 for B&B when I mentioned that a well known booking site had a night there for £71.20 I was asked if I wanted them to ask the manager if they would honour this rate, I was told that the site had a discount of 20% and yes they could honour it but breakfast would be extra. This was fine but it was the manner in which it was told, I was made to feel that I should not have asked in the first place, and I am pretty sure that I saw a notice saying that there would honour any booking site close to the reception area. Our room had a side view, was a reasonable size with a over the bath shower, (which we could not get to work) The bath was on the small side, I am small and even I couldn't lie down in it, but plenty of hot water and fluffy towels. Complimentary water was a nice touch, good selection of teas and coffee. We arrived for breakfast just before 9am waited a while to be seated, there was not a lot left, I had cereal with some mandarin oranges and prunes, you did your own toast, tea and coffee were good, my partner had a cooked breakfast he said it was good but not a lot left, our fault maybe we should have gone down to breakfast sooner. The location of this hotel is great right opposite the Cathedral (bells stop ring at 10pm and start again around 7am) you have to pay £5 for parking at this hotel which we have not encountered before, however we asked if we could leave the car there for a couple of hours after we checked out, I was told that this was not a problem, you are given a code to get out of the car park. Overall I would recommend a stay here despite of what I have said, I have tried to be honest with my review. A fabulous location, nice clean hotel, however would have been nice to be welcomed better and not feel like you are just a number.

"Comfortable stay"

Vacation42542697514, Coventry, United Kingdom 25/02/2019

We enjoyed our little stay in Lincoln its right opposite the beautiful cathedral. Thw town centre is about a 10 minute walk down steep hill which is ok going down but coming back up its hard work. There are lots of nice pubs around and a good choice of shops.

"Friendly and close to Castle and Cathederal"

Trevor L, Milton Keynes, United Kingdom 07/02/2019

The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean, well equipped and serviced appropriately. The Nespresso machine was a nice touch but it is necessary to bring your own pods as though supplied by the hotel leave much to be desired. Restaurant food is good apart from an absence of salads and green vegetables.

"Lovely Lincoln"

Cate D, Norwich, United Kingdom 02/02/2019

Firstly we loved Lincoln. What an attractive place. The hotel is very close to the shops, restaurants etc. We had a lovely room with a view of the cathedral. The bed was comfortable, shower nice and powerful, great space and very clean. Lots of parking. The only downside was breakfast. It was included in our booking but wish we had ventured out to find somewhere in the city to have breakfast. Everything had sat out far too long and was pretty inedible. Coffee was nice although I had to ask for more as the self service coffee pot was empty. I would stay again.

"Great location"

solihullgem, Birmingham, United Kingdom 29/01/2019

You can't fault the location of this hotel - literally right next to the cathedral. We booked dinner bed and breakfast in January on a special deal through Travelzoo and it was good value for money. The bedroom was a decent size, with a comfortable bed and heating we could adjust ourselves. However, the ensuite was very chilly - no heating or heated towel rail and cold air coming through the extract. The duty manager did her best by providing an electric radiator but the flex didn't reach into the bathroom so was of limited help. We did report the shower as the water was scalding and couldn't be adjusted, but there was a bath also so we were able to use that. Dinner was well cooked. The service was rather slow but we weren't in a hurry.

"No problems"

peterakaflynn, Carshalton, United Kingdom 29/01/2019

Booking this hotel was a last minute decision as myself and my wife were in Lincoln and decided to stay the night. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly, reception and bar staff. The room was clean, with tea & coffee making facilities provided. Also complementary bottles of water were provided. Some rooms overlook the cathedral but ours overlooked the car park, which considering the last minute decision to book this hotel, we can't complain. The hotel provides breakfast, but we didn't book this or partake in breakfast. There is parking at the hotel, but there is a charge of £5.00. Overall we have no complaints.

"Great Location but ?"

Shardlo, Derby, United Kingdom 26/01/2019

Booked through, non refundable with breakfast. On check in receptionist said you only have room rate do you want breakfast (extra) , had to get confirmation on phone to show but was disgruntled that we had breakfast ! ( ok a mistake by them). Room fine with a great view of the Minster but wouldn't expect to have last occupants rubbish in the bin !! No mirror in bedroom for my wife to do hair etc (Room 232). Generally quite a cold Hotel but ok. On checkout again tried to charge for breakfast !!!! Surely not twice !! Breakfast was ok , fantastic location for Minster, Castle and nice restaurants/bars just need to be a bit more professional.

Lincoln_Hotel01, General Manager at The Lincoln Hotel, responded to this review

"Overnight stay at The Lincoln Hotel"

Lorraine K, Ossett 23/01/2019

I stayed for one night at the hotel with my husband. We had a garden view room. Nice room but didn't make any use of the garden seating area as it was so cold. There was a private function happening at the hotel whilst we were there. Pretty noisy in the bar area but we had no disturbance in our room. It's a good location for the Cathedral and castle with a few individual shops, cafe's and bars. We would stay here again.

"Good Stay"

Graham B, Herts 22/01/2019

Stayed for 2 nights and completely satisfied. Had Cathedral view room which was well appointed - comfy beds and good bathroom. Breakfasts very good. Did not use restaurant as far too many other options in Lincoln itself. Biggest benefit was onsite parking - costs £5 but that is money well spent. Would use again. All staff very helpful and friendly.

"Convenient hotel in Lincoln"

User 20/01/2019

We stayed here for a weekend break booked via TravelZoo. The hotel is quite odd architectually and has probably seen better days but it was great for an inexpensive short break. The front of the hotel looks straight onto Lincoln Cathedral and the castle is just a short walk away. Not far from some decent pubs and restaurants. We enjoyed BeerHeadz along Eastgate for craft beers if that's your thing. It's a short walk to Steep Hill which takes you into the main part of the city for shops, train and bus station. We didn't drink in the hotel bar but the self service breakfast was plentiful. The only downside being the bizarre decision to heat the plates to a temperature that nearly requires oven gloves to pick them up. Staff were friendly, check in and check out efficient and the car park appeared to be free, despite some info that we would be charged per night. We'd certainly stay again if in Lincoln.

"Post Christmas chill out "

gailh873, York, United Kingdom 16/01/2019

Reception lady very friendly and helpful. We upgraded our room for a small cost. We enjoyed the stay Bed was really comfortable and breakfast was self service and good value for the money. The view from our room was directly on to the cathedral. We ate in the hotel resteraunt which was top class. Car park fee was waivered. I would most definitely go back again.

"Delightful well situated hotel"

Mike J, Chepstow, United Kingdom 16/01/2019

We stayed in this hotel and found the staff incredibly friendly and helpful in all areas. The excellent well trained local staff were like a breath of fresh air. Top marks to Management and its delightful employees. We could not fault this hotel. The politicians who forecast “après moi le deluge” if we leave the EU and won't let us leave should come to Lincoln and look and learn The Lincoln Hotel is in a wonderful location in a quiet area but well within walking distance of the sights and with a lovely view of the Cathedral. This spacious hotel is well maintained and rooms were extremely comfortable and compact but well designed to accommodate all your bits and pieces and guess what even the towel rail was hot how unusual is that! The breakfast is excellent with lots to choose from with vegetarian options and served by very pleasant and accommodating staff. Giving what if offers this hotel is extremely good value for money.

Attended the new years eve function at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it, there was 6 of us in total. The staff were attentive and friendly, the champagne cocktails were excellent and the food was to die for! Band were a little louder than some would expect but still a good night Had! TaylorFrank, Surrey, United Kingdom 08/01/2019

I have overlooked this hotel for years; always thinking it was a bit of an odd building opposite the beautiful cathedral! However, we stayed last Saturday evening as we had a party to go to in Lincoln. Check in was easy, pleasant - done & dusted within a minute! Room was clean with a balcony - comfy bed, great water pressure for a shower - nothing to complain about at all! Breakfast was seamless - lovely staff & a surprisingly fabulous selection of “everything” quite literally! Check out - very quick, very polite & friendly......10/10 to this hotel for everything! Would definitely recommend & stay again! Thank you!

"Wife's 60th birthday lunch"

User 08/01/2019

I had 21 friends and family booked in for Sunday 6 June 2019. The Cathedral Suite was all set up and a large table laid for us. Guests were impressed with how the table was set. We had the room to ourselves due to the time of year! The waiting staff were excellent and allowed us to bring in cakes and balloons. Their service was excellent throughout the day and there was Bowie music playing. The food was superb and everyone commented on the quality and presentation. A big thanks to all the staff, not forgetting those behind the scenes, for making us welcome and making it a special day. We will certainly be back soon!

"Extremly good location top of the hill near the. Cathedral"

Topicalcat, Hinckley, United Kingdom 07/01/2019

Great location, also on a bus route if you can not face the climb back up the hill. Prices reasonable and rooms nice an quiet. Most rooms have a view of the Cathedral. Staff excellant We did not eat in so can not comment on the Restaurant. Plenty of places to eat in the Cathedral quarter only 5- 10 minutes away. They have a secure carpark but do charge £5 a night. A hotel I would go back to.

"Much improved."

User 07/01/2019

After a disappointing Boxing Day lunch at The Lincoln Hotel, we have been back twice since with friends and had an excellent meal, both times with attentive service. Will continue to visit. Very enjoyable.

BiznessTravel, England, UK 05/01/2019

Stayed here over the New Year, having previously been on business many years ago.nothing has changed and the whole complex looks and feels tired, in need of a make over. Rooms are dark and dingy - our shower was boiling hot and uncontrolable - reported to receoption but no change. Breakfast is a self service system. OK but liitle choice of cereal. Coffee, from a pot, was undrinkable.

User 01/01/2019

My BF and I saw in the new year with a group of friends at The Lincoln Hotel, the band were awesome and the DJ was lots of fun. We had the taster menu which was really great food, all the courses looked wonderful. The waiting staff were attentive but not overly formal, the perfect blend. Great atmosphere and surroundings, having the Cathedral as the backdrop was the icing on the cake.

"Location, Location, Location."

Eric R, Carlisle, United Kingdom 30/12/2018

What could be nicer than enjoying breakfast overlooking the magnificent Lincoln Cathedral? The hotel is literally across the road from the Cathedral and in a fantastic location for exploring the old part of the City. The serve yourself buffet breakfast was a bit of a free for all, but in fairness the hotel was also catering for a wedding party. However, the breakfast was good, with a wide choice on display. Our room was small, with a small bed, shabby brown worn carpets and a scruffy bath with the enamel peeling. We were overlooked by rooms directly opposite, and we were left with no option other than close our curtains. Net curtains would have solved the problem and given us some day time light. Our room was near the lift on the second floor and we were conscious of the associated sound. This all sounds like a bit of a grump and there are certainly obvious things that would have made our room much more presentable. However, the staff were welcoming, and the location sold us on a wonderful visit to this beautiful city.

"Depressing and dirty"

LynnMcGregor, Glasgow, United Kingdom 30/12/2018

I've never had to write a bad review like this however came to Lincoln yesterday for 3 nights for new year and stayed at the Lincoln - my partner made the booking and thought he had booked a family room- we have since been informed by hotel manager he had booked a small double intended for single occupancy- my partner is adamant that's not the case however on arrival we were put into a tiny room with a double bed and no room to move - I spoke to Robin at reception who was a delight and she moved us to a double room which still very small but bigger at least than previous- there was no wardrobe, instead coat hangers on the wall next to bed as per picture attached- I then went for shower and to my disgust saw hairs in bath, few scattered on floor and dust and hair round door edge and door stop as pictured, the towelling blind I'm sure used to be duck egg colour? However so dirty was now a tinge of brown. The toilet pan lid fixtures had a black hair on one side and a brown mark on other...both windows in bathroom were also filthy and looked like never cleaned- I rinsed out bath and went for shower using shower mat provided, it was sore on my feet and lumpy so when I removed it a few of the suckers ripped off and stuck to bath - I called reception and spoke to Robin who was again very nice saying would speak to manager and get back to us. The manager called the room and unfortunately didn't get his name but was very uninterested and quite arrogant- I was polite explaining the problem and he said we had not originally booked a standard double therefore would need to move back to small double on Monday night as no availability- that was his response to the dirty bathroom... I then said that was unacceptable and would be checking out in morning- he just said “fine” - I then requested a refund to which he said yes but not for the night we stayed to which I agreed however wanted a reduction in rate due to how dirty bathroom was- he just said you're already getting a discount as you only booked small double and also only entitled to one breakfast so you're in bigger room and getting two breakfasts- fair point but his attitude was unprofessional and so uninterested- he actually didn't sound phased or surprised at cleanliness issue- I have never stayed at best western before and certainly wouldn't again- we have now booked into holiday inn which slightly cheaper, spotlessly clean and on waterfront with bars and restaurants- far better option for those considering a visit to Lincoln oh and huge king room too!

"Fantastic for gluten free "

V2591UBjennyc, Wigan, United Kingdom 30/12/2018

My partner and I recently stayed at the Lincoln Hotel in a standard double room. The room was very clean and had a fantastic power shower. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Parking was £5 for the one night stay, which was very good for city centre parking. We ordered breakfast with the room and there was lots of choice on the buffet. I had informed the reception staff the night before of my gluten intolerance and in the morning the waitress asked for my breakfast order. I was pleasantly surprised that I could have a full breakfast with gluten free sausages and toast. My breakfast was served straight from the kitchen to prevent cross contamination. Excellent service.

"Embarrassing Christmas Day Blunder At "The Lincoln Hotel""

paulineflavill, Newark-on-Trent, United Kingdom 30/12/2018

I rang this Hotel Christmas Eve to ask if we could go in for a drink on Christmas Day as we were non resident. We were told "Of course you can and would be very welcome as long as you don"t want food , which I understood " My husband and I arrived, got sat down at a table, and I went to the bar to order a drink. I was told we would have to leave the Hotel as we were not resident and would not be served, I explained I had rang and told we were welcome to have a drink, the barmaid was not at all friendly and kept telling me you have to leave. This was very embarrassing, there was plenty of free tables and no one waiting to be served. I really feel that they could have let us stay for one drink and explained that we had been given the wrong information. I later rang the Hotel and spoke to the Manager who was on duty and I have to say he was not one bit interested in what I had to say. So beware folks this is not the service you would expect from a Hotel in the heart of Lincoln even if it was Christmas Day, thinking about it maybe that"s why it wasn't as busy as it should have been.

Lincoln_Hotel01, General Manager at The Lincoln Hotel, responded to this review
Dear paulineflavill, Thank you for taking a moment to share your feedback. Having looked into this, the error was made by a member of our team that you spoke to on Christmas Eve. We were catering for over 160 guests for Christmas Day Lunch that had all pre-booked with us and our full attention has to be on those guests, we do not allow non booked guests on Christmas Day. My apologies that you were not informed properly when you first enquired. Regards Stephen Marriott Genereal Manager

"Christmas day dinner!"

BigSteve023, Sheffield, United Kingdom 27/12/2018

Visited the lincoln hotel on christmas day and what a brilliant experience. The waiting staff were very friendly and the food was brilliant. I would have no hesitations about booking again next year. Thank you lincoln hotel!

"Traditional Dinner Dance & overnight"

Steeletheshow, Sheffield, United Kingdom 27/12/2018

There were about 100 of us who attended the works Xmas Do, we had a great time. Atmosphere was lively, food was good, just as you'd expect for Christmas Faye. We all had a brilliant time. Decided to book a room as I'm based a distance away from the hotel, lovel room, clean, everything you could ask for not that we got to use it much. Breakfast hit the spot aswell, set me up for the day. Great hotel and party

"Awful restaurant experience"

Fabregasuk, London, United Kingdom 26/12/2018

Where to begin and end. About a third of the stated ingredients from the set menu were missing. The pork was mainly fat. The veggies were miserly with 2 cauliflower florets for 6 people and about 3 sprouts in total. Wine took ages. Bread stale. No table clearance, we had the gravy from the mains next to the custard from dessert and they were next to the plates we'd stacked ourselves. The glossy menu had promised: “an ideal get together without the washing up”. With the table creaking from uneaten food, cracker debris and remnants of the main course lingering with the desserts, we felt about five minutes away from having to put on the marigolds. Waitress was full of attitude and dealt unprofessionally following polite complaints, banging stuff around, eye-rolling, huffing and puffing. If she'd had a dagger, we'd all have been dead. We had to ask for absolutely everything, from teaspoons to milk to the coffee (we'd already paid for). The issues with this place were blamed on staff shortages, but in reality when it's as serious as this, it always starts at the top. To top it off, the mince pies “were finished” according to Ms Daggers, but a manager miraculously found some for us (and another table who appeared to be having difficulty. I see yet another table has also left a highly accurate review from today). We all appreciate the constraints of mass catering and the challenges of staff shortages but nothing excuses food and service this poor. The hotel manager needs to intervene as there is something clearly wrong in this kitchen. A manager did take this on board and offered discounts which were appreciated. The menu promised: “an exquisite lunch...where the spirit of Christmas is upon you from the moment you arrive... fabulous food with relaxed elegant surroundings”. This certainly describes a lovely restaurant experience. Just not this one. Avoid.

"Boxing Day disappoints"

Jinny S, Lincoln, England, United Kingdom 26/12/2018

We chose to have our family Boxing Day lunch here, we will not return. The main course consisted of two small roast potatoes (would not make a whole one) left in the oven too long, one dish of vegetables between 5 that contained approximately one carrot chopped up, one cauliflower floret and a Brussels sprout, the rest was mange toute. The cheese plate after had biscuits that Lord Nelson would have been proud of, they had no taste, the cheese was dried out and the plum bread looked as though it had been hacked off with a butter knife. We ordered coffee, after requesting a clean cup there was insufficient coffee to serve us all. The amount of money charged for the meal was not excessive in ordinary circumstances but it was for this extremely disappointing affair

"Disappointed with Christmas dinner dance. Beware if booking a function with food"

535LisaB, Lincoln, United Kingdom 23/12/2018

We have had our Christmas dinner dance for 3 years at the Lincoln Hotel, but this will be our last year! Arrived for pre dinner drinks and spent most of that time not socialising but queuing at the bar as there was only one member of staff on! Who to be fair was doing her best but surely management are aware of expected guests and should plan accordingly! We were shouted through for the meal at 7:30pm but had to ask several times where it was as it too over 50 mins for starters to arrive! The salmon and mousse was lovely and I eagerly anticipated my beef main. It took a further 40 minutes to arrive with others receiving turkey earlier and waiting for others to arrive. The beef was dry like it had been precooked and reheated or left under a warming light for the afternoon , we waited what seemed like an eternity for the vegetables to arrive only to find the cauliflower undercooked ( not al dente) that you couldn't get a knife through it! The gravy arrived mid meal and no offer of condiments. When my friend commented to me what happened to this place, no one has even asked if our meal is ok? The waitress stopped serving a colleague and rudely responded are you having a dig at me! Slammed my colleagues meal down and went on at the top of her voice how she was doing her best and we are out of order!! Great customer service training...... our party organisers were naturally aghast and went to complain about the food and service to the operations manger who responded no one else has complained so he wasn't going to do anything. Dessert was dry and lack lustre , I waited for cream only to be curtly told there isn't any, that's what dessert is! No offer to get some the kitchen... in previous years the tables have been decorated with party hats etc but these were missing along with coffee and a mint which was now self service cafe style. We didn't complete our meal until almost 10pm which was never the case in previous years which is why we booked for this year. I don't know what has happened at the Lincoln Hotel regarding food and customer service, but we will go elsewhere next year ( which I'm sure many others will too) I would also seriously consider other establishments when booking a business function, family celebration or wedding at the Lincoln Hotel

"Not a patch on Christmas 2017"

Charles Stewart L, Lincoln, United Kingdom 19/12/2018

Our second year having our Christmas get together and a big disappointment compared to last year. We arrived for pre-dinner drinks and waited quite a while to get drinks as only one person on the bar. The starter was OK but the main course was poor the Beef was not great with the Veg taking a while to come out and the Roast Parsnips came out when we were halfway through our meal. No sign of Horseradish, Mustard or cranberry sauce for those having Turkey. The desserts were poor and no sign of Cream or Ice cream to go with the Chocolate Tart or Profiteroles. Coffee last year served at the Table, this year help yourself next to the Bar. Will have to think seriously about returning if the function is booked for this venue next year

"Would Not Stay Here Again"

lorrainek1611, Cranbrook, United Kingdom 19/12/2018

We chose this hotel due to the proximity to the cathedral; we were attending Handel's Messiah on the Saturday evening and decided to treat ourselves with an upgrade to a "deluxe room" with cathedral view - £382 for 2 nights. However, the bed was sub-standard with a poor mattress and a mattress topper covered in a plastic sheet! We hardly slept the first night and had to sleep during Saturday afternoon which obviously impacted on our weekend. When we discussed this with the duty manager he offered to rectify this by offering a reduction in the room rate but when we checked out a day later this was refused! They told us that the manager would contact us and they would cancel our drinks bill. However, Mr Marriott, the manager has still made no effort to contact us despite us being assured he would contact us the following day (Monday). Now, four weeks later, despite a chasing email and one to Best Western also, we have heard nothing. Disappointing customer service.

"Disappointing "

Hallcyon, Tamworth, United Kingdom 17/12/2018

Wishing to be close to amenities in Lincoln for my wife's birthday celebration, we selected The Lincoln Hotel, close the the Cathedral, Castle and the Old Town. Arriving slightly earlier than the 2pm check-in the lady on reception was very helpful, but couldn't check us in. After some shopping we returned and made our way to our very basic room. The bed wasn't assembled properly with the base out of line. There was rubbish on the floor in the bathroom and the room and corridor approaching it absolutely stank of disinfectant. Not pleasant. After a very poorly serviced meal in The Green Room restaurant on Sunday evening, we then presented for breakfast on Monday morning. We had to wait for 5 minutes before a flustered waitress, carrying some greasy pans checked our names and pointed us to a table. The table was not laid up and had the residual milk jug from an earlier breakfast. This was not changed or replenished and we had to ask for a second place setting. While we had been waiting to be seated we'd witnessed several people waiting around in the self-service breakfast buffet area. When we made our own way over there to get breakfast there were no eggs available and only a couple of ropey tomatoes. For such a prime location hotel, this has been a very disappointing experience, and frankly, well overpriced to boot.

"Fab location "

Lou Lou B, Leeds 12/12/2018

70s style hotel located opposite the cathedral. Limited on sight parking. Lovely rooms with comfortable beds. Ideal hotel for getting out exploring the olde world shops on the cobbled streets . We ate in the hotel restaurant as part of our package. Despite booking a table on arrival at reception there was no record of us doing so in the restaurant, but fortunately they managed to squeeze us in. The food was ok, not exactly 5?star quality, and my friends sweet potato gnocchi was the strangest thing , not like anything I've ever seen . Slept really well, you do hear the cathedral bells , however I don't think it's an hourly thing . Breakfast was self service with a reasonable choice available. Would definitely stay here again.

"Back to Basics"

759hbf, Caythorpe, United Kingdom 12/12/2018

Party of 3 of us went today for Christmas Lunch. We were seated in the Green Room? along with two other tables. A pleasant waitress took our orders. Starters were Soup and Smoked Trout Mousse. We had to ask for bread rolls to be brought. One arrived for the soup, with no butter. By the time the butter had arrived, my mother- in- laws roll and soup had been eaten. The soup I am told tasted good. The Trout Mousse, lacked any substance, with very little evidence of any Smoked Trout. it should have also been offered with brown bread or a bread roll. We all ate Turkey for our main course. it is nearly Christmas after all ! Small portions, a half of one pig- in- blanket each, two small roast potatoes and a veg dish designed for one to feed three. We had to ask for Cranberry Sauce. The whole meal not very hot, presumably because it had been brought in from the kitchen which is situated at the other end of the hotel on an un-heated trolley. The table of 9 next to us also had to ask for bread roll's and the vegetables they brought only fed 4 of them, they were not too pleased either. There is a clear need for some basic training in food service to be had here. Bread roll's with soup-Cranberry with Turkey...need I say more. Puddings, nothing to write home about, tiny portion of Christmas Pud' very little sauce with it. I believe other 2 guests had Lemon Posset? Said it reminded them of Angel Delight. Sadly, We were not very impressed, despite this hotels wonderful location opposite the Cathedral.

"A good night's sleep"

hunslet49, Lichfield, United Kingdom 12/12/2018

What more can you ask for than a good night's sleep? I only stayed the one night and am pleased to report that I slept really well. The hotel is in an ideal place for the Cathedral and Castle but if you are going to do some serious shopping you'll have to get used to going up and down Steep Hill. My room was a decent size, clean, very quiet and had a comfortable bed. The bath looked like it had seen better days but the shower was excellent. I find that many hotel showers are so underpowered you hardly get wet – not the case here. I didn't bother eating in the hotel as the main restaurant didn't appeal to me - I really didn't fancy a romantic dining experience on my own. And then there's Bar '67 which seems to be at the other end of the spectrum. That wouldn't have appealed to me even in 1967 On the downside the lighting on the stairs is a bit weak and I do resent having to pay £5 for the parking. I didn't see anything about a charge for the parking on any of the information that I read about the hotel. Oh well, it's three stars for a reason.

"Back again"

Bumpking, East Yorkshire 11/12/2018

Nice hotel. Room was clean. Had everything we wanted. Breakfast good. Very nice atmosphere. Coffee was expensive but that's hotel prices. Close to town but there is a steep hill. There is a small bus though that goes from cathedral.

"Mid week break"

User 11/12/2018

We were greeted with a warm friendly welcome after a 2 hour journey. Our room was clean and the bed was SO comfortable. We had a room with a view of the cathedral which was worth a million pounds, just beautiful especially lit up at night. All the staff were helpful, informative, friendly and polite. We'd definitely return.

"Laughable excuse of a hotel"

lucyloo398, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom 07/12/2018

I stayed at at The Lincoln Hotel for a weekend getaway, and I really wish I hadn't... So much about this hotel was disappointing, here's a list for you to put it into perspective: 1. The rooms were dirty, they looked like they hadn't been given a good clean in years. 2. The staff looked like they would rather be anywhere else than at work, they were also unfriendly and unwelcoming. 3. The food was very overpriced and really average, served on dirty plates too. 4. I'm not sure if they even have a manager there, if they do then they don't do a very good job as the entire place seems like an episode of faulty towers! Some advice for those looking for a nice weekend away in Lincoln, stay somewhere else!

"City break"

User 05/12/2018

Lovely hotel right next to the Cathedral. Staff very friendly and helpful. Quiet nice rooms. Dinner menu exceptional, best dinners I have had in a British Hotel. Reasonable bar prices. Excellent breakfast. Good for Gluton Free. Tip. Lincoln is on very steep hill, good bus service to the door

Just returned from a wonderful overnight stay for my birthday and won't hesitate to return.location amazing right by the beautiful cathedral, our room was lovely and our evening meal in the green room was perfect, wonderful 3 courses ..the breakfast too was great with so much to offer.we parked free at the hotel and walked everywhere, even up and down Steep Hill several times...definitely deserves its name as the return journey is leg punishing but worth it.Thank you to all the lovely staff especially the lovely Midlands girl on reception who was one if the most welcoming people we have met in a long time. Your staff are a credit to you .

"Great visit."

paulah1009, Woking, United Kingdom 30/11/2018

For our visit we'd opted for a superior room and were so very pleased with the amazing view of the cathedral opposite especially when lit up at night. Perfect location. Room was spotlessly clean as was the bathroom. Staff all very friendly and there was an amazing selection of food for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay here and our weekend in Lincoln.

"ideal location"

indiraOxford, oxford 27/11/2018

my wife and i stayed in room 310 for two nights weekend 23-25 November.. The location is second to none-with a wonderful view of the cathedral from our bedroom window. having the car park at the back of the hotel meant we could leave the car there and explore the (considerable) delights of Lincoln on foot for the whole weekend-a big advantage. On the Saturday night there was a party in the function room-but being two floors up meant noise was NOT an issue. I would recommend floor 3 rather than 2 if going for a deluxe room at the front. The only reason not a 5 star review is that the bathroom is rather tired looking and needs a bit of tlc-which i think the hotel is aware of. However-it was clean, and the water hot. the room itself was lovely-and the bed very comfortable indeed. breakfast was very busy-but very good. And a big mention to the staff-ALL of whom were cheerful, welcoming and polite. This always makes a huge difference to any stay. we will stay again the next time we visit this beautiful and underrated city, Jeff and Coral

"Great location, but disappointing in every other way"

traveladdict246, Guildford, United Kingdom 26/11/2018

We stayed for one night in November 2018. We arrived around 1pm and asked if we could check in early - No. Which surprised me as you would expect most rooms to be ready by this time for a 2pm check in. The superior room we had (204) was anything but superior. It was tiny and seriously needs a good revamp, tired furniture, stained carpets and the shower didn't work properly, wouldn't go cooler than warm or scalding. The main overhead lamp didn't work. As we were staying for one night I could live with this. But, it gets a hundred times worse, after returning from an evening meal around 10.30pm we discovered that our room was directly above the Christmas party and was as such an extension of the disco - unacceptable. After calling reception they did move us to room 304 which still being on the same side of the building had the same issue. In desperation I called other hotels but were fully booked. So had to try and get some sleep. Breakfast was fine, nothing special. On check out the staff made no attempt at apologizing or making any recompense for the disturbance and subsequent lack of sleep, all she said was we removed the parking charge, which is not actually advertised so I cannot say that it was even a goodwill gesture as it was never mentioned before! I cannot say I am surprised, as clearly no thought goes into placing guests away from a party they are not attending. I would certainly not recommend until the rooms have been upgraded and some thought given to placing guests away from the disco unless they are staying for that event.

Lincoln_Hotel01, General Manager at The Lincoln Hotel, responded to this review
Dear traveladdict246, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us, please accept my sincere apologies for function noise disturbance you encountered when you returned to the hotel. We always try our best to allocate bedrooms that are not with an event away from any potential noise. All our superior bedrooms face the Cathedral, and unfortunately so does our function suite. Once again with apologies Stephen Marriott General Manager

"Great location, but...."

clive p, Exmouth, United Kingdom 25/11/2018

You cannot fault the location of this hotel, and overall it is ok, but..... We were there for three nights, and the hotel's computer didn't seem to recognise this, and staff therefore kept on questioning us! Every breakfast they ran out of food, dishes, etc, and we had to ask for replenishments. They will not budge from the check in time of 1400, despite rooms being ready`! The hotel needs some TLC and certainly a lounge area. Some of the staff were very attentive, others were definitly not! Expensive for what it offered.

Lincoln_Hotel01, General Manager at The Lincoln Hotel, responded to this review
Dear clive p, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at The Lincoln Hotel, I was obviously disappointed that we did not exceed your expectations and note your constructive comments. I am unaware of any issues with breakfast service last week, I will follow this up with the supervisor and breakfast chef for their feedback. Where possible we will offer earlier check ins but as the hotel is extremely busy at the moment, we have pre-allocated bedrooms on the back of guest requests, meaning we are not always able to shuffle rooms around. Thank you once again for your feedback. Regards Stephen Marriott General Manager

"Lovely few days here. Coped with gluten free!"

Pat W, London, United Kingdom 20/11/2018

Really great. We upgraded to a superior room, which wasn't much more money but gave us a larger room on the front of the hotel facing the cathedral. Particularly at night when the cathedral was floodlit, the view was superb, even from my bed. I'm gluten free and the waitress in the restaurant said to choose what I wanted and the kitchen would sort it. Brilliant! Breakfast was a bit mad, especially on the Saturday when the hotel was full for a wedding, but staff were helpful at all times.

"Excellent hotel"

AndyNorwichUK, Norwich, United Kingdom 19/11/2018

We got a special deal - £109 for the 2 of us with dinner in a superior room for £109. The room was superb and the window that ran the whole width of the room dramatically framed Lincoln Cathedral on the other side of the road. An amazing view. Breakfast was of good quality with plenty of choice and, without exaggerating, the dinner was probably the best we've ever had in a hotel. £30 per person dinner allowance included in our deal which mostly covered 3 courses of everything on the a la carte menu. We could not fault the ingredients, taste and presentation and a meal of that quality would have cost considerably more in an upmarket restaurant. The (apparently new) head chef and his team clearly know how to cook! All staff were helpful and extremely friendly. If there is an issue with anything, that's the stairwells and corridors which are a bit scruffy in places and some have a rather odd odour!

"Superb Location"

WOODATSAX, Holt, United Kingdom 18/11/2018

First impressions are of somewhat shabby corridors but overall, the hotel is very good. I am disabled and chose a garden room. There is disabled parking in the car park close to a lift to reception. Unfortunately, the garden rooms - just 3 of them - are back down some stairs. However we quickly discovered that if the ablebodied goes down the stairs there is a door which opens only outward allowing cases etc to be wheeled across at ground level. Once in, the room is perfect. Large, good patio into the very pretty garden, totally quiet, with a huge walk-in shower with superb water flow. Breakfast was good in a large open room with views of the cathedral. Others with us found their rooms with views of the cathedral but had to suffer the noise of a wedding which went on into the small hours, over-flowing into the garden at the front of the hotel. Book a garden room! Rooms 120-8 overlooking the car park should also be quiet. We had dinner in the Green Room. Very imaginative menu. All 8 really enjoyed everything- and the prices are very acceptable. It averaged out just over £20 a head plus the wine. The staff were very polite and helpful with advice on short cuts, calling taxis etc. All in all, a very happy experience. Thank you all at the Lincoln.

"Overall - Satisfying"

MuchtravelledOAP, Luton UK 13/11/2018

The hotel frontage has a lovely view of the Cathedral partly obscured by trees. You would be fortunate to get a bedroom with this view since the hotel has other less inspiring aspects. Our 2nd floor room had an open wardrobe with 7 hangers and storage. Comfy double bed with cabinets & lights both sides plus telephone. Other furnishings were an armchair, office chair plus worktop & mirror with two drawers. A small table topped with a flat screen TV with Freeview. Teletext took a little finding on the remote's yellow button. Subtitles were also enabled. Power points – we had to pull the worktop unit a little away from the wall to enable plug-in but there were 3 other points in the alcove where tea/coffee, kettle & biccies were found. There was no fridge, trouser press or shaving mirror. A hairdryer was in a drawer. The bathroom had a huge shower with complementary soap, shampoo & body wash. Hand basin in a good sized unit + shaver point and other nice touches were a non slip mat, an anti crash toilet seat and very nice towels. The room & bathroom were to a very high standard of cleanliness. A couple of minor moans. There was no net curtain (we were overlooked) and the window curtain was heavy & floor to ceiling and covered the one radiator completely on the wrong side. There were no instructions as to how the radiator could be adjusted but hey – we had a winter duvet. Evening Dinner was superb for both food & service however a foreign gentleman seemed to assume that we all wished to listen to his loud & extended conversation on a cell phone. What restaurateur would be really brave & ban cell phones in the interest of polite low key conversation – I wish. Breakfast was also well presented with something for everyone – again service was jolly good & the hot dishes were actually hot.

"Decent hotel."

User 09/11/2018

Stayed here overnight whilst visiting my daughter at Lincoln University. Had to walk up Steep Hill to get to the hotel; it was raining and blustery so upon arrival at Reception, we were soaked and dishevelled. The receptionist looked up and said "wow is it raining?!".....unbelievable! Anyway, our room was a Standard double which was quite small but well equipped. Large bathroom with soft towels, comfortable soft bed and excellent view of Lincoln Cathedral. Buffet breakfast which was also extremely nice and varied. Staff were friendly and helpful mostly, although their knowledge about the Cathedral was non existent, e.g opening times, main entrance location etc. Surrounding area of the hotel very nice and quaint....will stay here again in future and am happy to recommend.

"Disappointed "

peterpotimus, Winchester, United Kingdom 02/11/2018

Very disappointed in the quality of this hotel. Having stayed in numerous Best Western hotels I can honestly say this was the worst. The hotel is very shabby, dingy and run down. The hall carpets were stained and wrinkled. Our room had mismatched and chipped furniture, the bathroom needed a deep clean and attention to grouting. The breakfast was a farce. There was a lack of clean plates, no orange juice, no muesli on one day. The hot food was constantly running out and was not replenished until guests had to complain. This was a real shame as the quality of the food was good and what we expect from a Best Western Hotel. The only real positive was the superb location for sightseeing and good car parking facilities.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night as a birthday treat from my husband. We had a deluxe room which was very spacious with a beautiful view of the cathedral across the road. Hotel staff very nice. We had a meal in the green room to celebrate my birthday, the food was really nice but the service was extremely slow! I know it was busy but waiting 35 minutes to have our plates taken away is a very long time. But apart from this everything else was good. Breakfast is very good. We enjoyed our over night stay.

Dawn B, Nottingham, United Kingdom 29/10/2018

This was our fifth visit as we had had such good times previously. However, this visit wasn't as expected- breakfast time was like faulty towers and unfortunately made reception aware. This was my husbands birthday weekend- first time away as a married couple - I had emailed in to ask if any special touches etc my email was acknowledged but there was nothing. Not even a mention on check-in. We had recommended our son to stay for their 10th anniversary - unfortunately they have had the same experience. No dressing gown and slippers when in a deluxe room ... this is the norm? The stairs and hallway smelling of stale urine.. no disrespect but was described as ‘the smell of old people's home' so for us having recommended is somewhat disappointing. We were asked on check out if we had enjoyed our stay and again mentioned my points. My phone number taken but no courtesy of a call back. Lincoln is a lovely place and this hotel has gone down hill this year for some reason which is disappointing.

"Room for improvement"

BrightEyes1711, Durham, United Kingdom 29/10/2018

We've been wanting to stay in the centre of Lincoln for a few years and chose this mainly for location and that was not disappointing. A very short walk to the Cathedral and the lovely shops and bars and restaurants around that area - far nice than the bottom end of the city! However the main attraction was the location as the remainder which we experienced was rather dull. I think it could do with tidying up as the hotel is rather dated in a lot of areas. There were wedding parties going on whilst we were there so I guess it's very popular as there is a lovely church opposite. We just felt that the room was dull, the hotel was dull and lacked any kind of atmosphere at all. Thankfully we were close to many other places which` offered a very warm welcome, so all in all we had a good stay. Would I stay here again? - yes purely for the location and if it was priced within budget.

"A drop in standards...."

50jenwin, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom 29/10/2018

My friend and I went for afternoon tea recently, having been on several occasions before. Last time we used a Travelzoo voucher and were disappointed, to the extent that my friend posted a not very good review. This time, we again used a voucher, but we expected it to have improved somewhat from our previous visit. Wrong! Sadly, it was, if anything, even worse. The sandwiches were nice, but the rest was very disappointing. Very poor, plain, pieces of cake - not sure what flavour they were meant to be but looked like something my daughter would have baked at school in her very first cookery class. Not good. And the scones were awful - small, tasteless and very dry. But the most telling was the service - there was very little of it. Was this because we had used a special-offer voucher? I don't think so because we have previously used a similar voucher for their Green Room Restaurant (where we have dined several times) and the service there is excellent. Perhaps The Lincoln management don't employ enough staff to ensure customers are looked after properly in all areas of the hotel, but we were definitely not impressed. Altogether a very poor experience and one not to be repeated.

"Spectacular "

kenlowkey, Worksop, United Kingdom 24/10/2018

Me and my wife sally heard about the Lincoln hotel from a customer at the white heart hotel round the corner about the Lincoln hotel saying it had new management a in the kitchen a brand new head head chef so we went to night and oh my the duck such a beautiful piece of meat the chefs decided to give me the presentation was defiantly not my generation. My wife had the pork dish 3 types belly pork a quail scotch egg (THAT WAS STILL RUNNY IN THE MIDDLE!!!) and tenderloin which was very nice as my wife let me try it. Coming to dessert the chocolate delice is next level chocolate 3 ways thin brownie base a mouse and a jelly over the top it's like 3 desserts in one me and my wife shared this dessert as the portions were bang on the mains leavening enough room to fit in a dessert.

Great dinner served by Gemma, Kayleigh and Molly. Thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary evening. Hotel was a very good find. Highly recommended. I think I've said all that is needed but Tripadvusor apparently wants more words. Sometimes as they say less is more!

"Great location"

User 21/10/2018

Simply can't get a better location, reception, bar and bedroom were just a tad too small to be comfortable. Bedroom on 3rd floor had a balcony (a chairs width) but you could see the cathedral. Found the ground floor of the hotel rather enclosed - with a wedding reception being also held, space was an absolute premium... Staff at reception were polite but slow bar service and female person dealing with wedding (or seemingly so) was rather rude ! Being told that chairs we sat in were reserved for wedding, when wedding guests were using the entire ground floor area (for RESIDENTS!!!). She didn't like being challenged and left in a childish ‘Huff' !!!! Aside from the great location, I doubt that I'd seek a swift revisit !

Dear 77Craig, Many thanks for taking the time to review your recent stay, we would love to enlarge the balconies on our Cathedral facing rooms but unfortunately we are restricted to the space we have available to us. "Short break"

User 20/10/2018

Great 2 day stay, everything just so,clean rooms and staff very attentive.Chaotic first morning for breakfast but you can't blame the staff as one irate woman was intent on doing, put it down to cut backs. Second morning very relaxed. Don't be put off by the cathedral chimes,I thought it was very relaxing. In all a great stay;would recommend.

"Modern hotel great location."

Harleyman24, Scarborough, United Kingdom 19/10/2018

Modern 1960s hotel in a great location opposite the wonderful cathedral, close to the town, castle and other amenities. Ours was a ‘superior ‘ room with a cathedral view. Nice room with comfy bed and modern shower room. Superb dinner with good menu but breakfast on the first day was a little disappointing as some of the tureens were not regularly filled, second day was much better. Friendly staff. Would certainly recommend.

Friendly staff. Hotel in a good position close to the Cathedral. Bedroom was very good and comfortable. Breakfast was a little manic not enough staff. but good all the same. It was fine for a short break.

"Romantic break"

"Not Worth The Money!"

leonvguitar1973, Leicester, United Kingdom 14/10/2018

Stayed for one night in a 'Deluxe' room. The room was a good size and clean, however it had lots and paint chips on skirting boards, doors and door frames. Paid extra and was very disappointing to see this. Also, awful marks on bedside table (See photos). Also, outside tables not cleared from night before, full ashtrays and glasses on the lawn! Ordered room service, then got call saying 'chef is not prepared to cook chips this evening'. Ordered paper for the morning which didn't arrive and was looking forward to a lazy morning read in bed. Hotel is however in good location and breakfast was ok apart from heavily stained cups.

"Afternoon tea"

Jim B, Lincoln, United Kingdom 14/10/2018

My Daughter had given us an afternoon tea for Christmas. Anyway, we arrived at reception and was directed to the Green room. We were welcomed by the Maitre d who promptly informed the chef of our arrival and we were shown to a nice table by the window and offered drinks. The room is very pleasant with some gorgeous 'aircraft' artwork on the walls. A large pot of tea arrived along with a rather cute small milk bottle, Those of a certain age will remember these from junior school. Our tea arrived, Presented on a two tier slate stand rather than the traditional tierd china plates, It looked rather good. The lower tray contained a selection of sandwiches. Freshly prepared and very tastey. Pots of cream, a jam and scones. The top tray had a selection of rather large portions of deserts including cheese cake, chocolate brownies and Almond cake. Looked and tasted amazing. Teapot refilled and onto the scones, again nice and fresh and very yummy. More than enough to satisfy most people. A truly enjoyable experience.

"Good location - nothing else."

liz55, Lancashire 14/10/2018

Stayed 2 nights . Pros: excellent location with all the quirky shops close to the cathedral and castle and surrounded by excellent cafes and restaurants. Note it is close to the top of Steep Hill which also has lovely cafes, restaurants and shops. At the bottom in the city, the shops, restaurants and cafes are the same as anywhere else. So for location alone I would have given 5 * Cons: Check in - this was abysmal. We arrived early knowing we would not be able to get to our room. But as in most hotels you can check in and leave your luggage until the right time. Here you were turned away! Everyone was sat around reception waiting for 2 o clock, then everyone had to queue to complete forms, answer queries etc. Appalling. Remember, we are paying guests so treat them as such. Room: this was ok, but no safe, hairdryer a small travel one, small bed, no air conditioning and the room was hot. Breakfast: poor quality for a hotel today. Just scrambled eggs, sausage, tomato bacon, toast, croissants. Really nothing special at all. They ran out of things and were slow to replace. Breakfast dining room: awful. Plastic chairs which were ok on the carpet, but when they were on the tiles they slid and were dangerous to sit on - so beware. The table clothes were black which showed every crumb so tables looked dirty. Check out: we thought this went well. Until we got in the car, drove to the exit barrier and then nothing happened. On arrival the barrier was automatic. Had to go back into the hotel, where there was a queue at reception. Was told we needed a code - so why were we not given it when we checked out. They knew we were on the car park, as we had paid for parking. Car park: Charge £5 a night. Was very busy be we managed to get a space. See above for getting out. You aren't offered the code to get out so ask. Overall: corridors were grubby and very tired. It all needs refurbishing and new carpets and furniture. Reception needs to learn how it's done in 2018 at other hotels Would I return? To the location, without a doubt. But there are a couple,of other hotels and a B&B very close by so would take a look at those if we returned to Lincoln

"Good adequate hotel with friendly staff"

special4christopher, Suffolk, United Kingdom 10/10/2018

stayed 2 nights at this hotel opposite the cathedral - nice bonus, and was pleasantly surprised that this is now indeed a Best Western hotel so get membership points! Check in was fast with very friendly staff and our triple family room was a little bit small but clean and adequate for our short stay (my single bed was a bit creaky though) - did see the top of cathedral from our room despite being round the rear. This is a 1970's hotel which had been updated over the years - still got the 70's stairwells and the lift is one from that period - still works though despite being a little slow on response of pressing the buttons. Breakfast was truly excellent with hot and cold buffet with clear views of cathedral from breakfast room. Would stay here again as it is a decent enough hotel - but could do with another update or a refurb to make it really great with maybe bigger family rooms if possible for longer stays - as we like the extra chairs and a proper coffee table of the bigger triple/quad rooms of other hotels we have stayed at!

"Hotel with outstanding Cathedral view"

nrb01, Edinburgh, United Kingdom 10/10/2018

Returning to this hotel after many years, I found that the former Eastgate hotel of Trust House Forte is now the Lincoln Hotel. It has outstanding views of Lincoln Cathedral which are particularly striking at night when the Cathedral is floodlit. If you stay here, do ensure you book a room with a view! Having said that, this is the best feature of the hotel. The other services were not of significant merit. We found a toilet with a broken seat in our bedroom In our 2 day stay, they did not manage to repair it! The breakfast room room was very busy and congested with staff having a hard time to keep things going.

"Great location, friendly staff"

chelfordta, Macclesfield, United Kingdom 09/10/2018

We stayed 2 nights in a 3rd floor room with balcony. A really lovely room with 2 nice comfortable easy chairs, comfy bed and really good bathroom. The view from the room and balcony of Licoln Cathedral was stunning both in daytime and at night. We were lucky we could use the balcony as the weather was very good! The staff were really friendly and attententive, and any requests we made we dealt with efficiently. Particular praise for the young lady who served us in the Green Room Resturant. Well be back! "Shabby hotel"

Thebirches, Staffordshire 08/10/2018

I booked a deluxe room as a surprise for our wedding anniversary Not impressed with the hotel decor extremely dated felt like I was back in the seventies! Cathedral view was amazing balcony very dirty & in serious need of refurbishment. Food however was excellent along with the service. Staff friendly Such a shame the hotel building so dated felt more like a nursing home . One night stay was enough I would recommend other hotels nearby Booked this as location was excellent on Secret Escapes hubby wasn't impressed I felt I'd let him down as I'd booked this totally as a surprise for him wouldn't stay here again

"Needs Complete Overhaul"

Jon L, London, United Kingdom 08/10/2018

Not massively impressed with my stay at this hotel. Clearly a building built in the 1970's that's had numerous updates since, however it's now in places needs to be started from scratch. Our room although clean was very small and suffered from the multiple update feel. Serious lack of power sockets. The bed was very soft not that comfortable plus the anti-slip matt in the shower suckered to my feet like an octopus. My stay was on a Saturday night and the hotel was hosting a wedding which was clearly using a large amount of their resource leaving other guests waiting in the restaurant and bar. I also couldn't use the hotel car park as it was full probably with wedding guest cars (had to park down the road in a much more expensive car park.) On the plus side all the staff were extremely pleasant and polite just struggling most of the time. Overall I wish the Premier Inn had not been fully booked because their standards are much better.

"Travelzoo meal deal"

gillye75, Hastings, United Kingdom 04/10/2018

Service was ok to begin, waiter christian was a bit ott,one main course was almost unedible and sent back, waited over 30mins for cheese board, staff really didnt care, would avoid this restaurant,we were visiting Lincoln and looking forward to this meal

"Nice Hotel Excellent Location"

alfandmadeliene, Redhill, United Kingdom 28/09/2018

This hotel is right opposite the Cathedral, close to the Castle and prison. We had room 320, a very nice room with a balcony overlooking the Cathedral. There is a bus stop right outside and buses taking you to all parts of the City including the Railway station. The staff were extremely friendly and polite. A good buffet breakfast was served.

"Lovely place"

Moira H, Durham, United Kingdom 19/09/2018

Dear visit to Lincoln on a business trip, cosy little room which was peaceful with a leafy view and the subtle sounds of the cathedral bells, immaculately clean, beware of the fantastic waiter in the restaurant who with such passion sells the food making you excited about what you're going to receive ending up in you ordering too much food and eating more than you should! What a credit to the hotel this guy is! All in all a comfortable nights stay feeling well rested because of it. And would most definitely visit again. Thank you everyone!

"Rooms Need Some TLC"

Aileen3, Anglesey, United Kingdom 18/09/2018

We stayed at the Lincoln Hotel at the beginning of the month for a couple of nights. The rooms are definitely in need of TLC - they are a bit shabby, and the bath was quite stained. When we returned to the hotel the first evening after being out for a meal we decided to have a couple of drinks at the bar in the reception area. There were dirty glasses on every single table in the bar area, despite only two of the tables being occupied, so clearly the staff were not too busy to clear up. Breakfast was okay but the staff could maybe do with a refresher course - the waitress, although perfectly polite, pointed to the food saying "the cooked stuff is over there and the cereals and everything else is over there". All in all, not a hugely successful stay but it wouldn't take much to improve.

"Super comfy bed"

JaneLarcombe, Norfolk 18/09/2018

I enjoyed staying at this hotel. Friendly staff, fantastic location, nice breakfast and super comfy bed. Beware the cathedral bells which start at 7am every day. Albeit loud, it was actually rather charming and gave me a great excuse for an afternoon nap, in the super comfy bed, which was wonderful. Better lighting in the bedroom would be useful for applying make-up after dark, especially following a shower, when the bathroom is hot & steamy and bathroom mirror all steamed up. But overall, this was a great choice of hotel in lovely Lincoln and I will be staying again

Lincoln_Hotel01, General Manager at The Lincoln Hotel, responded to this review
Dear JaneLarcombe, Many thanks for reviewing your recent stay, we like to think of the bells as the best wakeup call you could ever wish for. "Good hotel, lovely location"

rikanika, Norwich 17/09/2018

It was my first stay there. I stayed in room 30, with private patio, exit to garden. Quiet, comfortable bed, comfortable shower. Loved it. Breakfast very good, service pleasant. Room service delivered quickly and in style - see photo ??. The only negative point: query regarding possibly overpaid bill raised and no response so far. Also one important advice. They have lovely rooms with the view over entrance and facing cathedral but if you cannot stand smoke - don't go there, people stand there and the smoke is horrible.

Stayed for 2 nights at this very nice hotel. Lovely room overlooking the cathedral. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and bright with a wonderful view of the cathedral. Very comfortable bed. Excellent choice at breakfast. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. We were lucky to hear the bell ringers practicing one evening. Would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to stay again. There is also parking on site.

"Last minute"

What a lovely place, they accommodated us at very short notice after we had refused to stay at another establishment. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean and breakfast was excellent. We will be visiting lovely Lincoln again and will definitely be staying at the Lincoln.

Stayed over the bank holiday weekend and couldn't fault a thing. Staff great and nothing seemed to much trouble. Food was really good and one of the chefs even came out to speak with my fussy son, who then went on to eat everything! Will certainly be back after finding this gem.

"Wedding Anniversary treat"

TreetopsCottages-Spa, Grasby, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom 04/09/2018

Last minute decision to have a short break away. We have stayed at the Lincoln Hotel many times in recent years and we have enjoyed every stay. We were very fortunate that as the hotel was not too busy and I think as we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary we are upgraded to a lovely Cathedral Room, which made our stay extra special. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. We had an evening meal in the Green Room, where we have eaten on many occasions and had an excellent meal, the best part were the scallops, so fresh. Breakfast was excellent served hot and by very helpful and friendly staff and an excellent choice of food. Our particular thanks goes to Robyn on reception for sorting out our room booking and evening meal and Blaine for his consistent helpfulness in particular our last stay in May. We will look forward to an escape again soon. Kindest regards Gill & Brian Hartley

"Lovely setting with balcony overlooking the Cathedral"

sbsrl, King's Lynn, United Kingdom 04/09/2018

We stayed for one night in a room with a balcony overlooking the Cathedral, it was a lovely view and with Bell ringing practise in the evening it was magical. The receptionist on duty when we registered wasn't the most welcoming receptionist I had ever dealt with, no niceties, no real welcome. Room was lovely balcony needed a bit of a clean, it was a tiny bit tired but was clean and comfortable. Nice choice of Tea, Coffee and bottled water. Breakfast was excellent, vast choice of very very good food, probably the best breakfast I have experienced in a hotel, staff at breakfast were very good. Receptionist on check out was very good. We would stay here again but would only book an upgraded room with a view.

"Very close to the major attractions"

williamBuxton, Buxton 28/08/2018

Visited for a couple of days to see both the castle and the cathedral. The hotel is in a great position just across the road from the cathedral and our room had a balcony and view of the cathedral. (a delux room on floor 3). The hotel is generally in good shape with a decent sized bedroom (Delux) and the staff are friendly and helpful. Also tried the green room for a meal on the second night and the food was good - the maitre de is somewhat over the top - everything is "fantastic" and he does rush you a little. First time visiting Lincoln and can recommend - if visiting the cathedral (stunning) then make sure you do it with a tour guide - they add so much more than just looking round yourself

"Night Away"

Bob H, Tetbury, United Kingdom 15/08/2018

We generally like Best Western Hotels, but this one was way below standard. Superbly sited opposite the magnificent cathedral, this should have been a top destination but was stunningly disappointing. Our upgraded room with a cathedral view was clean and well equipped and we could have overlooked the chipped paintwork (general throughout a hotel that certainly needs refurbishment) if the sink plug had worked and the toilet had not blocked. To be fair both were fixed quickly. Had we been greeted with an offer of porterage (I'm a Blue Badge holder and not really equipped for carrying cases across the car park and up in the lift) and asked if we would like newspapers or early morning calls, we might have been better disposed too, but we were not. It would have helped if we had been told where breakfast was to be found and if, when we found it, it had not been a buffet that was devoid of fruit juice and had barely warm cooked breakfast foods with which to serve yourself. The artistic attraction of milk on the tables in 1/3 pint school milk bottles and mugs instead of cups was lost on us. So were black tablets cloths that still had the remains of the last folk's breakfast scattered around. However, that was not too bad compared with the Green Room meal that night. Mine was OK, and the presentation was superb (the waiter kept telling us so) but my partner found that a starter of brown edged elderly salad and a soggy, broken piece of celery to accompany her "Bloody Mary" Sorbet which was almost uneatably served in a tall cocktail glass with a knife and fork for company might have looked pretty but was challenging to tackle to say the least. Try it at home - it's fun eating sorbet from a tall glass with a fork. Her main of risotto was just boiled rice with bits in - it bore no resemblance to any risotto we have cooked ourselves or eaten elsewhere. Our comments to the waitress about the first course went unanswered by anyone else so we just topped up the nouvelle cuisine quantities with cheese and biscuits and moved on. With such a short menu, it's hard to see how it could have been so bad. The next two evenings we ate in the Bar 67 in the cellar. The short burger/steak/fish and chips menu here was plentiful and well cooked - hard to imagine it came form the same kitchen. Anyway, here we were looked after by Chloe and a pleasure it was too. Nothing was too much trouble for this pleasant, helpful young lady. Without being asked to, she took our comments about out previous meal on board, and did something about it. Her report resulted in a free drink the next night - so someone had listened! When we checked out we were surprised to find that we were charged a fiver to park our car in their car park (despite the fact I couldn't get anywhere near the two disabled bays near the door). It may have told us about the charge somewhere on the website when we booked - but I could not find it - it was cunningly concealed if it was there. You may gather that it will be the last place we would ever revisit.

"Excellent food, excellent service"

User 13/08/2018

My sister in law and I visit Lincoln a few times a year for a girly day out and always look for somewhere different to have lunch. On this occasion it was the turn of the Green Room at the Lincoln Hotel. We was greeted by a very nicer waiter called Christian who promptly laid a table outside in the sunshine for us so that we could have a drink before lunch. We went inside to the restaurant to eat and it was beautiful. Christian was very knowledgeable, attentive and looked after us extremely well. After we had finished our starter and main courses we went back outside (at the suggestion of Christian) into the sunshine to another freshly laid table to eat our desserts. The while experience was wonderful and was then topped off nicely with a long cold glass of pink bubbly. If we had to make one criticism it would be that the food was served rather quickly and that we didn't have any time between courses. This could have been because it was quiet! Will definitely visit again but maybe next time in the evening. Thank you again to Christian x

"Private room for family meal for 10 perfect"

User 12/08/2018

We had a super meal in the Elizabethan room. 25th wedding anniversary surprise family gathering. There were 10 of us and we had this room to ourselves which was wonderful no strangers looking on or other chatter. Attentively served by Christian and girls service was faultless and dinner flowed well as did the wine. Thought the menu although nice was limited in choice but both the vegetarian and gluten free persons were catered for well. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was presented beautifully the puddings exquisite black forest a winner. Although fine fancy food still adequate portions. Extra breads to start a must. We weren't rushed throughout nor at the end to leave and there was a door to the outside for the smokers of the family which we could use. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

"Nice hotel, great location"

mjh123, West Midlands, United Kingdom 11/08/2018

We stayed for 2 nights and had a great time. The room was on the 3rd floor and had a nice balcony with views of the cathedral. Room was clean and all usual amenities provided. The location is great, and very close to both the cathedral and castle. Breakfast was one of the best I've had - loads of variety and good quality - and filled me up for the day. There is a lift to all floors - although it is a bit ancient and bounces a bit. But it does the job and saves having to carry luggage up flights of stairs. There was a gym, but I did not visit this. Parking was no problem and we were given the code to get out whenever we wanted - and was not charged anything for parking either. We ate in the restaurant which was good value (as we used taste card) and good quality. Service in restaurant bit slow though. Overall, I'd definitely stay here again.

We went for a meal , whilst they were very busy, the staff remained unflustered. Hubbie and I started with smoked salmon, I enjoyed monkfish for mains- hubbie belly pork which was cooked to perfection. The deserts were a feast for the eyes! I enjoyed deconstructed Black Forest desert, hubbie strawberry desert, both delicious! The matrede was hilarious.put people at their ease, joked and chatted with them. Did try to upsell but with good humour. They could have done with more staff as there was a longer wait between starter and main than I would choose. Overall delicious meal

"Wedding guest"

Abbie B, Lincoln, United Kingdom 06/08/2018

We stayed here after a wedding which was also held at the venue. The hotel itself is in the best location for uphill Lincoln, and very convenient having a carpark for guests too. The majority of the staff were friendly, I would of given 5* but I felt the hotel just needs a bit of tlc.

User 06/08/2018

We stopped here in March 2018, the weather was super (snowy) which I love, the hotel was amazing would definitely stop here again, the bed was so large and comfy, patio doors to the balcony which is a must to view the Cathedral wow! lit up at night beautiful, the food breakfast was always hot and you can choose how little or much you eat, always lots available it never ran out.

"Comfortable hotel"

jo l, Huddersfield, United Kingdom 30/07/2018

This a lovely hotel with comfortable rooms and a great breakfast. It's located directly across from the cathedral so be prepared for the bells to wake you up. There's a nice garden area at the front were you can have a relaxing drink on a sunny day. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

"Wekend break"

George R, Birmingham 29/07/2018

Stayed here for two nights. A quick and courteous check in by a pleasant receptionist. Booked a standard room which was adequate for a short stay although we had no view to speak of- just trees. The room was very warm and we had difficulty sleeping as there were no fans available on the first night. We did manage to have a fan for the second night. The windows only had limited opening. Bathroom was fine and the shower had a good pressure. Breakfast was very good with a good choice of hot and cold food. The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and very courteous-something I rarely find in UK hotels. It is situated opposite the Cathedral and well placed for other sites in the city. Arriving by train we found a bus from the bus station operates frequently and stops outside the hotel. Would stay here again but hopefully air conditioning would available during hot weather

"Friendly hotel by the cathedral"

gremlina, Malmo, Sweden 29/07/2018

The hotel itself may not look very interesting, but its staff and location contributes with much more. I stayed in a standard room, the standard was ok and was clean. Easily got help from the staff. The breakfast was nice and had some unexpected but nice items, but unless you are keen on the continental breakfast it may be so filling.

"You can't decorate something with hundreds and thousands and call it fancy"

laurastorer86, Telford, United Kingdom 29/07/2018

Family room booked but access to the room was up the lift but still via stairs! (With a toddler in a pram!) Cleaning staff had to help me lower the pram down the stairs! Reception staff didn't offer any help at all, even though they could see i had a pram, a rucksack and a large holdall...on my own. Room stank of sewage, this was reported but nothing done about it what so ever! Dead flies and dust on windowsill, dust on skirting boards, hairs in the filthy bath, mold in the coffee/tea holder and on the contents.....I could go on! Waited and waited at the bar for a new drink once my coke tasted awful. Bar staff tasted a fresh glass of it and then disappeared. When I asked for a new drink of anything from another staff member, the attitude from them was beyond rude. Breakfast looked amazing but was limited. More focus required on the small and the standard details like cleanliness and getting toilets working, instead of the artsy-fartsy decor at the bar and breakfast.

Lincoln_Hotel01, General Manager at The Lincoln Hotel, responded to this review
Dear laurastorer86, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay, I acknowledge your comments and I would like to offer you my sincere apologies. The room you stayed in is due refurbishment of the bedroom and bathroom by the end of the year along with several other rooms that are yet to be completed. The tea caddy trays have only been in place for 3-months and I believe there may of been an issue with a leak of the UHT portions, which has caused this issue. It is unacceptable and actions have been taken. Once again with apologies. Regards Stephen Marriott General Manager

"Unbeatable view"

Bonnie950, Ladbroke, United Kingdom 29/07/2018

This was a return visit for us, having visited in July 2016 and having such a good time we wanted a repeat visit. Unfortunately on this visit there were some housekeeping issues with both our room and the room that my sister and her husband had booked. Having said that, they were all dealt with promptly and efficiently by one of the senior managers, Nicola (thank you again Nicola for all your help). I was a little disappointed that the hotel seemed a bit less pristine than it was on our earlier visit, but Nicola clearly cares very much about the hotel and the comfort of its guests so hopefully things will improve. One issue which is difficult for any hotel to resolve is the actions of selfish and inconsiderate smokers who can't do without their nicotine fix and quite happily smoke on the balcony area, leaving their cigarette butts for someone else to pick up and tainting the whole room with the smell of cigarette smoke (thank you to the young lady who had the unenviable task of picking up a large amount of cigarette butts). We had a delicious meal in The Green Room restaurant and there is one thing that can never be taken away from this hotel - its fantastic location with the amazing view of Lincoln Cathedral.

"Fantastic location"

847JPR, King's Lynn, United Kingdom 25/07/2018

Stayed for one night for daughters graduation. Fantastic location opposite the cathedral. Very pleased with the check in, very polite & efficient. However on arrival in our room (no 223) we were disappointed to discover it was slightly shabby, the bathroom in particular - the toilet lid was broken at the hinge & the seat also moved alarmingly, the toilet roll holder was broken causing the roll to keep sliding off. The beds were clean & comfortable & we had a good nights sleep. We had an evening meal in ‘The Green Room' restaurant, the waiters were brilliant which matched the delicious food. Breakfast was also very good, buffet style, well displayed with plenty of choice. I didn't complain about the bathroom issues as we were on a tight schedule therefore I cannot comment on whether they would have been dealt with. All members of staff we had contact with were extremely pleasant and efficient. We probably would stay here again if we return to Lincoln.

"Afternoon tea for six"

Josephine K, Waddington, United Kingdom 25/07/2018

I was meeting up with some distant relations who had made a special journey to meet me, as they were staying at the Lincoln Hotel I suggested afternoon tea, at the hotel, as an iice breaker. i found the tea rather disappointing, not nearly as good value as previous places I have been to. It was adequate, had the sandwiches been any smaller they would have disappeared. I don't think it was worth the money. Will be going back to previous tried and tested restuarants next time.

"Delightful location,easy parking."

Elizabeth N, Waterford, Ireland 25/07/2018

This has proved an excellent choice. The location opposite the cathedral is delightful ,the hotel a lovely outdoor seating area with view of the cathedral, with waitress service. The public rooms are excellent. The breakfast area is very good with nice window tables. The Green room restaurant is very nicely furnished. The foyer has also waitress service for coffees, dqrinks and afternoon tea. The Restaurant has Avery good menu and the quality of the food was superb. Breakfast had a great menu too. Quality alround.

"Lovely to be back at the Lincoln Hotel"

db7o, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom 23/07/2018

We had another very pleasant stay at the Lincoln hotel earlier this month. We discovered this hotel with it's excellent location & quirky décor last year on an overnight stay.We decided that we would like to return for another visit to explore the city further. Because we had liked the location of the room we were allocated on our first visit,I phoned reception a few weeks before we returned to ask. If we could have a room on the end of the corridor again if one was available? We booked a deluxe room with a small balcony & Cathedral views. I spoke to a lady called Claire who said that both end rooms were available & she would make sure that we got one of them. I also made a reservation for dinner in the hotel's "Green Room" restaurant for both nights of our stay. On arrival we were very pleased to find out that we had been given the same room as we had stayed in last time. The room makes good use of the space available, was clean & comfortable. As we had beautiful warm weather, the air-conditioning system in the room was very welcome too. We enjoyed our dinner in the Green Room restaurant on both nights, the menu has obviously been updated & improved since last year. Our food was tasty, nicely presented with fresh ingredients,we particularly enjoyed the monkfish main course. I would like to say a special thank you to Istvano & his staff for two most enjoyable evenings,on our second evening, there was some confusion about our reservation, however Istvano found us a table & looked after us well. Breakfast is served in a restaurant overlooking the Cathedral,it is largely a self service arrangement although you may also order from a menu. There was a good choice of things to eat, but it was a little chaotic at times. The hotel is in a super location in the cathedral quarter of the city,we enjoyed having some time to explore on this visit as we were just passing through the last time. We really enjoyed our latest visit to the Lincoln Hotel, would recommend it as a nice place to stay, it's clean &, comfortable, the food was good, the staff were friendly & helpful. Lincoln is an interesting city to visit,we look forward to returning before too long. Thank you to all concerned.

"Fantastic view"

keven j, Sheffield, United Kingdom 22/07/2018

Stayed in room 312 premium room comes with small balcony overlooking cathedral, double bed two armchairs coffee and tea making facilities. Free safe, shower over bath, hair drier provided even comes with dressing gowns and slippers. Booked for breakfast great choice of full English or continental buffet style, has well stocked bar and a small restaurant with great food. And a second bar that provides food ,the hotel was built in the sixties and decor is to that period, close on to cathedral and castle but a steep hill to center. Will definitely return and would recommend a stay but cannot review other rooms only the premium.

"Standards Have Dropped Since Last Year"

joy l, Derby, United Kingdom 18/07/2018

This building has a 1960's exterior but the interior has been refurbished over the years and is better. There are sofas, chairs, tables and parasols outside the front of the hotel on the astro turf and this is beautiful looking out to the cathedral which is literally over the road. The grounds are really good. The hotel parking is to the rear of the hotel and reception put a £5 charge on leaving your car there. The lift only holds 4 people and it is very old and rickety, in desparate need of an upgrade. The receptionist was helping behind the bar when we arrived and she was a little too slow in approaching us to check us in. She couldn't find a pen in the reception area and wandered away to find one ........ when she returned I had used one out of my own bag. That was really unprofessional I thought. The next day we saw the same receptionist clearing tables in the breakfast room in her receptionist uniform. The bathroom had been refurbished in our room and there were Gilcrest and Soames toiletries which were very nice. The bath takes 30 minutes to fill, the tap is not suitable for filling a bath and should be replaced. The deluxe room itself had complimentary bottled water and magazines and good coffee. At 11.15pm we couldn't get the air con to work and called a member of reception to look at it at 11.45pm. He couldn't work it either and brought us a fan as it was a really hot night. The veranda to the room had not been swept in quite some time, in fact it was dirty and there was a 30cm weed growing up the wall of the veranda. The gym is great, small but good equipment in working order and really good air con. At breakfast we ordered a coffee and a hot water. We received a tea and a hot water. I ordered smoked haddock with 2 poached eggs and received only 1 egg. How hard can it be? The management of this hotel should be training their staff to a much higher standard and have very clear guidelines on housekeeping maintenance and reporting systems. You are letting yourself down .......... badly.

"Used to be better"

Crankypantstoday, Columbus, Ohio 17/07/2018

I stayed here in 2012 for 7 nights and it was great. I'm here now in 2018 and it has clearly gone down hill. The staff is not helpful or friendly, the hotel looks shabby, the beds are worn out, and it's generally not a good experience.

"Lovely room "

georgiepops, United Kingdom 16/07/2018

Stayed 2 nights in a deluxe cathedral view room it was very comfortable and the air conditioning was most welcome. We had a lunch a dinner and two breakfasts all the food was well presented and very tasty. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring on foot during the day or night. The cathedral bells don't chime until 7 in the morning and stop about 10 i think so no loss of sleep due to noise. I would recommend a visit and would choose the cathedral view again.

"Wedding guest"

rikkiw88, Eastbourne, United Kingdom 15/07/2018

I stayed here last for a family wedding. It had it's good parts and it had it's bad parts. The hotel ground were well maintained clean and tidy, friendly and helpful staff. Bad, need improving parts, for the size of the hotel there is not spaces 3 times I had to go round and out again to eventually get a space, the exit needs a connection to reception to save people having to go in to hotel to get a code to get out of the car park when there's no spaces. I stayed on my own and in my room was a double bed and a singled bed for me the hotel missed out on having a family stay. The rooms seriously need air con it was like a sauna when I got into my room. Finally the hotel needs more staff they were all multi tasking running around not sure what to do first. Other than that the hotel was ok.

"Lovely hotel, next to the cathederal."

Marie C, Solihull, England, United Kingdom 15/07/2018

A super hotel in a great location, close to castle square and ideally situated for many restaurants and tourist attractions. We have stayed there on many occasions and have always been happy with the cleanliness and comfort of our room. The staff are very friendly and helpful

"Evening dinner"

LincolnRedimp, lincoln 09/07/2018

.my wife and I recently visited the Lincoln hotel to celebrate a wedding anniversary. We were greated pleasantly in The Green Room and ordered drinks and offered menus which I thought had choice but not as much as I had imagined. We chose our own table as it seemed we were to be alone, not a busy night The views of Lincoln cathedral were splendid and somewhat magical We ordered starters of salmon and pulled pork which were very tasty although a little on the small side We both ordered rib eye steaks with blue sauce, both excellently cooked and full of flavour My wife ordered black forest trifle that came served in individual pieces ,each very tasty I ordered a selection of cheese, again well presented and tasty Service was excellent food quality superb Shame about lack of atmosphere although the waitress did put on music and it gave us chance to talk and enjoy each others company

"Enjoyable stay"

Linda R, Castle Acre, United Kingdom 09/07/2018

Stayed here for a couple of days away, end of June. Really good location in Lincoln. The room was great and waking up to a superb view of the Cathedral and it's Peregrine Falcons was a pleasure. Also good to wake up to, was the superb buffet breakfast which really had everything you might want for all tastes. Loved sitting out the front on the astroturf with a big G&T in the sunshine before having dinner in The Green Room where the food was excellent and the staff very sweet. 60's building is a pleasure, in need of a bit of love here and there but nothing major.

", its in a great location."

mark b, chertsey 09/07/2018

Great location, with car park and friendly staff. does have a large garden with tables and chairs to the front overlooking the cathedral. But its a sixties hotel so rooms are small its a bit dated, but clean and with a place like lincoln youre not going to spend a great deal of time in the room, its fine for a couple of nights.

"Lovely one night stay"

Savas T, London, United Kingdom 08/07/2018

Lovely clean, good size room. Polite staff. I'm not a great fan of buffet breakfast but it was ok. Great location. Our room overlooked the cathedral. Free parking. Good Wi-Fi. Reasonably priced. Would recommend

"One Night Stay"

Cherylwelshgirl, Merthyr Tydfil, United Kingdom 08/07/2018

The location of this hotel was excellent right behind the cathedral with parking to the back and on the side of the hotel. It was easy to walk to the cathedral and castle from the hotel without using the car and luckily it was at the top of the town so no need to climb the steep hill to reach these historic places. The hotel and bedrooms were very comfortable and we really enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the morning and would definitely stay here again.

"Ideally placed....."

Jacqueline M, Kings Lynn 05/07/2018

We have just returned from 2 nights at the Lincoln Hotel. We have had a glorious time in the area and were very pleased with the hotel. From the outside, it looks a little shabby however the room was very clean with plenty of storage. The king size bed was very comfortable indeed and the room did have airconditioning which we did use in this hot weather. Have an upgrade (not too much more) and book a room with a view of the Cathedral. Just a stone's throw away and absolutely spectacular at all times of the day. Breakfast had a good choice and was buffet style. The hotel is ideally placed particularly for the Cathedral and the Castle as well as Tourist Information and Steep Hill. The hotel is at the top end of Steep Hill! Parking is available at a charge of £5 for your stay.

"Perfect location"

Christine B, Sydney, Australia 02/07/2018

This hotel is in a perfect spot situated opposite the cathedral and a few minutes level walk to shops pubs and restaurants. There are (for a premium) de-luxe rooms with cathedral views but I was in one of the others. it was quiet and comfortable but was in need of an upgrade. however for 2 nights it was adequate. the staff were very helpful and the restaurant food was very good although the main course portions a tad small.

"Super hotel in great surroundings"

Hampusine, Norway 29/06/2018

We had a lovely stay at the Lincoln hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, our room was super and we had the best hotel towels we have ever experienced. Lovely beds, very large closet and super bathroom. The breakfast was very good, and the view from the breakfast room is superb, and the short walk to the castle was also a nice surprise for us. We really did not have anything to complain about. But maybe this hotel (and also others) should provide more than one luggage stand in rooms? When you are travelling with friends and have more than one suitcase, one always ends up on the floor in the corner. In a large room like ours there was more than enough room for another luggage stand. Will I come and stay another time? Definitely!

Badger000_12, Durham, United Kingdom 25/06/2018

Situated right opposite cathedral and a few minutes walk from the castle. Is in the old town which is a very long steep walk up from the main shops and waterfront.Hotel was clean, had a bar and garden seating and staff were friendly. The hot buffet breakfast was okay with plenty of choice, normal for this type of breakfast.

"Best Location & Best Views"

markpittscom, Venice, Italy 19/06/2018

Great location, with full view of the cathedral (if you get the rooms with a view - which cost more). Ok buffet breakfast, and a overall a bit worn down (looks like it was last renovated in the 70's). But overall worked out very well for us.

"Fantastic hotel"

Jan S, Lowestoft, United Kingdom 19/06/2018

Lovely friendly hotel. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was hot fresh and tasty. View from dining room was stunning,Cathedral is just over the road. We requested an accessible room which was on the ground floor at the back of the hotel looking at the old wall. This was fine for us. We would go back again

"Pleasing Stay"

carolkite, Salisbury, United Kingdom 17/06/2018

An over night stop off which was a pleasing surprise. Centrally located so even though we were there a short time we were able to explore ventre Lincoln easily. Room overlooking cathedral with a small balcony was a bonus. Set menu was varied and food good. The cheese board was amazing with local varieties to choose from. Breakfast buffet was much better than many with cold meats, cheese a variety of breads and fish available. Only downside was having to pay extra for parking

"Birthday Treat"

User 16/06/2018

We stopped in this hotel on a Friday night on the Feel Good Friday deal. It is such great value for money. We stopped in one of the rooms with a balcony over looking the Cathedral and it was such a lovely view and room. The breakfast and evening meal were really great and had plenty of gluten free options to choose from. Would definitely stay again.

"Very tidy and welcoming"

User 13/06/2018

Almost at the very feet of the cathedral, this newly refurbished hotel is highly recommended for its central location, warm welcome, ease of parking, clean and tidy rooms and excellent food. The main restaurant looked to lack atmosphere so ate at the alternative Bar67. Fish goujons and chunky chips served in a basket with faux newspaper (greaseproof) and mushy peas, sauces and condiments served on a slice of tree. Fresh and tasty and the service also superb. A good measure of overall hotel quality for me is the poached eggs at breakfast, and here they were the best had for quite some time. Well done.

"Poor staff overwhelmed by being under stafffed"

User 12/06/2018

We love on a bright sunny evening at the weekend to walk into uphill Lincoln for a drink! This potentially fabulous hotel is so let down by being seriously under staffed if it gets busy! The poor barman was rushing around serving teas and coffees on a tray, running in and outside again and again, as I waited behind a couple, behind two elderly gentlemen queuing at the bar before me. The couple in front gave up after the waiter yet again went out to serve more customers! I awaited, hoping that meant I was further in the queue, but when again he returned to reload his tray and head out to serve the outside customers again. The elderly guys at the front stayed waiting patiently, but my wife and I gave up and headed to the Prince of Wales, a local friendly pub with great staff and service! The staff at the Lincoln are also very good but there are repeatedly too few to cope when it's busy!

"Lovely stay, with a wonderful view"

Samantha V, Lincoln, United Kingdom 06/06/2018

We live in Lincolnshire but had been given a Virgin Experience voucher and decided to stay here on a Bank Holiday Sunday, it really is in a perfect position to walk to Steep Hill for drinks and dinner. Our room overlooked the Cathedral, with a small balcony and it was so lovely to look out at the Cathedral, both in the evening when it is lit up but also to sit out and have my morning brew. The room was large, with a small table and chairs, the décor was smart, the bathroom could probably do with a touch up but it was all very clean. My only negative is that we put our breakfast order out on the handle of our door, for collection, so that we could have room service the following morning but this wasn't collected, thankfully we woke early and I checked but the buffet breakfast was really lovely, a lot of choice and all tasty. We would definitely stay here again and I would recommend it. Also loved the quirky lampshades in the corridors, nice touch.

"Relaxing Weekend"

User 05/06/2018

If you want a hotel with great access then look no further. Cross the road and you at the Cathedral. Two minutes and your in the top half of the town. Parking was excellent the hotel has it's own parking and £5 covers the cost of your whole stay. We had three days I look forward to returning. Our room was very clean and tidy and well decorated. The view was amazing looking straight out over the old Roman gate house directly at the Cathedral. Room 32 if memory serves me right. Staff were friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the hotel but the restaurant always seemed busy. If travelling to Lincoln I would recommend this hotel.

"Reunion Trip"

Soupdragon_11, Wales 04/06/2018

Fantastic stay at the Lincoln Hotel. The position of the hotel is wonderful just steps from the Cathedral and if you have a room at the front you get a wonderful view. The rooms (we stayed in 236) were very small. Can be a bit of a treck to get to the room either way you go you have to take steps as the lift does not cover both areas. The breakfast was stunning so much choice. We were a party of 16 and they gave us so much help and put up with our noise. The fact that the car park was free and we could leave it after we had checked out to have another look round the town was fab. The only down side of the hotel was that the room was very hot even with the windows open as wide as possible and we did not have much of a view. But saying that we were not staying there to spend time in the hotel room looking out.

"Fantastic position "

Ronmet, Derby 03/06/2018

The Lincoln is without doubt in a 5* position to visit Lincoln and see the historical sights. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the breakfast was very good. Overall the staff were very nice, but not all were. There were a few negatives. When I pay £132 for one night in a 3* hotel I do not expect to pay £5 to park my car in their hotel car park. More about the principal than the cost. We was disappointed in the size of our room it was very small and my view was a brick wall. I am beginning to wonder when you book with they are allocated inferior rooms. Not a good advert for them. However this hotel is all about position and if going back I would book direct and ask for a superior room.

"Good view of cathedral "

BRYAN A, Stockport, United Kingdom 02/06/2018

Stayed here for one night in a room that was directly opposite the cathedral lovely view .. The room itself was nice a little outdated but basic . The carpet had a large stain on it near the table . The bedding smelled of cigarette smoke .. The staff were nice . Friendly. And helpful.. breakfast was good quality and plenty of choice ..

"Excellent Choice"

david_chance, Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom 28/05/2018

My wife and I had a three day break at the Lincoln Hotel from the 20th May this year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, We had a balcony room with a direct view of the Cathedral and short walk to the Castle, The only issue we had with the room was that the en-Suite was a little on the small side, although this was a minor issue and that the main meals were a little limited on their selection offer. Other than that, the staff were helpful and the rooms clean and tidy. If you have not visited Lincoln before, be warned that the main high street is not called "Steep Hill" for nothing and I suffered because of a severe leg problem, especially on the way back to the hotel. Don't let this put you off, but ensure you know where the "park and ride" bus stops are!

"Birthday break"

Latebooker123, Northampton, United Kingdom 28/05/2018

Spent 2 nights here, the room was comfortable with views of the cathedral, breakfast included a very good choice of hot and cold dishes. Dinner in the restaurant was nice but service was a bit slow on the second evening.

"Could be nice but got no sleep"

sm1990m, Manchester, United Kingdom 25/05/2018

Stayed for 2 nights and both nights got very little sleep and got woken up very early due to lack of sound proofing. We could even hear person in room above using the toilet. When I asked reception about moving rooms due to noisy guest in adjoining room, they said hotel was full but offered no further assistance and didn't offer to speak to the guest about the noise level.

"absolutely stunning view"

ericthered-23, Barnsley, United Kingdom 22/05/2018

This hotel is directly across from the Cathedral, 1st thing you see on opening the curtains. The restaurant is also very good, bit nouveau but lovely food and service.all the staff were very friendly and efficient, rooms comfy and clean, on site parking very handy considering the location.Very handy for all the historic attractions. there is also a shuttle bus from the Cathedral down into town every 20 mins. saves a walk up/down a very steep hill.overall impression loved it and the weather was wonderful.

"Great location and friendly staff"

Sue S, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom 22/05/2018

Went on my own to Lincoln to meet up with friends for a school reunion. The location was important to be near my former school but it also was great to be in the cathedral area so I could have a nostalgic wander round without having to climb up Steep Hill! The room was ok but there was no view except onto a rather dismal inner yard and it was also rather hot and along a corridor which included steps up and down so would be tricky for people with heavy luggage and impossible for the disabled. On the other hand I got a deal of £146 for two nights B and B with Expedia so I guess a basic room was what I'd paid for. The breakfast was excellent and the dining room overlooks the cathedral and I sat at a window table enjoying the view so that made up for the bedroom's dreary outlook. I should add that the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and that the atmosphere was quite informal. I ate dinner there with friends on my second night and we thought the food was extremely good. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit the historic part of Lincoln on foot as it is so well situated.

My husband booked this hotel for a one night stay with dinner and breakfast for my birthday. Good car park, friendly staff. We had a deluxe room with a small balcony overlooking the Cathedral. It's is a short walk to the Cathedral quarter and Castle. We had dinner at the hotel which was excellent and breakfast was too...lots of choices. Would highly recommend. Picture is view from balcony

pipersam, Manchester, United Kingdom 13/05/2018

Was OK but it's the usual bland big name hotel. Needs a lick of paint. Room was v small but had a view onto the small garden. Room was quiet but v hot. Is in a good location, right outside the cathedral. Paid £147 on booking. Com for a sat night. Won't go back, will try harder next time to book somewhere else earlier

"Excellent stay and value"

User 11/05/2018

Lovely room with a fantastic view. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The hotel is right next the cathedral and within easy walking distance of the historical and shopping areas. Great breakfast as well!

"Excellent Hotel"

BeverleySueandJohn, Beverley 10/05/2018

Stayed as two couples .Could not fault any part of the stay. The rooms ,overlooking the cathedral were clean, comfortable and stylish.Staff on reception were friendly and efficient and the restaurant served reasonably priced and well presented food.Breakfast was an extensive buffet of hot and cold food . We used a "Secret Escapes" deal and consider it great value. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

Lovely place to stay for a visit to Lincoln. The hotel offered everything we needed. The people on reception were very friendly and helpful as were all the staff. Great breakfast and nice evening meal. Room clean and tidy, bed comfy, bathroom good, although pop up waste needs attention, but that is a minor detail. The view of the cathedral from our room ( 214) was perfect. Parking at hotel worth the small charge. Over all a very enjoyable stay!

alan_french28, Warninglid, United Kingdom 10/05/2018

We had a great stay at this hotel. From the minute we arrived until we left the staff were welcoming, helpful and always had a smile. Our room, on the second floor, was fine with a wonderful view of the Cathedral and if you are wondering, the bells stopped at 10pm and started again at 7am so did not disturb your sleep. Eating was very good with a varied and plentiful breakfast overlooking the Cathedral and the evening meal menu was also very good. My steak was perfect. We would also like to thank Gemma who looked after us so well in the restaurant. The location was perfect for the Cathedral and the upper town with many fine shops and places to to have tea. The hotel is looking a little tired and could do with freshening up. I hope the managers appreciate their staff who are a credit to the hotel.

2Freeman, March, United Kingdom 08/05/2018

The Lincoln Hotel is situated near the Cathedral and short walk to the castle. We parked the car in the hotel car park (entrance at the side of the Hotel) on Sunday and did not go back to it until Tuesday, £5 for parking for that time is worth it. All the staff are friendly and helpful, the Green Room restaurant is very good but book your table at weekends. The room we had was a superior facing the Cathedral. a very nice view.

"Brilliant location, good two nights stay."

AndyA46, Repton, United Kingdom 03/05/2018

Paid a little extra for a room with a balcony overlooking the Cathedral. Good size, well equipped, all facilities, clean and comfortable. Staff good. Parking on site which normally attracts a small charge, but was complimentary for some reason. Ate out in town one night and visited Brayford Pool. Had a smart dinner in the restaurant the other night. Managed to see the Cathedral and Castle in some detail. Very good breakfast but short on staff which meant some delays. 1960s building is architecturally at odds with the early medieval Cathedral.

"Not good value for money"

Michael G, Alford, United Kingdom 02/05/2018

The hotel is looking rather dated and in need of a makeover. The staff lacked training and customer service and satisfaction seemed a low priority. The bar staff won't serve you until they are ready - and the reception staff are not interested enough to ask "if everything was ok with your stay." Basically, buget standard and inflated prices.

"Good Location"

Neil A, Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom 01/05/2018

A 2 night stay, Hotel is well located with car park on site. Great views of the Cathedral. Rooms were clean perhaps in need of a little refurbishment. We requested interconnecting rooms with one room being an easy access room and this was accommodated in our booking. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Our rate included dinner in The Green Room and we were impressed by the quality of the food and service. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice. Only one negative comment - we had dined out for lunch on our second day and, therefore, in the evening we really only wanted a sandwich and glass of wine for supper, however, the lounge bar only serves until 5 pm. The the only choice for residents after 5 pm is The Green Room. Cellar Bar (which doesn't have much atmosphere, or Room Service. Just a small point but other than that the hotel is good value, excellent location with professional and efficient staff

"Excellent position and view"

David H, Eastleigh, United Kingdom 30/04/2018

This hotel is really the sum of its parts.Booking was clear , car park well indicated , reception staff good , room with view of Cathedral, dinner in the Green Room was of a high standard equally so was the breakfast. All staff competent and friendly.Well done.

"A very comfortable stay in a great setting"

User 30/04/2018

Only 1 night but a very comfortable one. Good sized room with a big comfortable bed. Fine views of the Cathedral. Clean bathroom and shower. Very pleasant dinner (an organised event and not with all the guests) and a very good breakfast the following morning. The staff were friendly and professional. Car parking easy but the car did fill up by early evening. For a hotel with easy access to Lincoln attractions this hotel would be hard to beat.

Gerry E, Knutsford, United Kingdom 23/04/2018

The service was exerlent. The staff on reception were extremely helpful. An exerlent breakfast choice and plenty of choices. Lovely location just across the road from the Cathederl easy walking to the old town. Rooms were clean the hotel needs air conditioning and showers not baths would be better and safer than baths. I would definitely stay again.

"Great location by the Cathedral"

Sarah H, Derby, United Kingdom 21/04/2018

We stayed on a Secret Escapes deal - deluxe room and breakfast. We really enjoyed our visit, the room was comfortable, the balcony and view were great and breakfast was very good. If we had to be critical of anything I would say the bathroom wasn't deluxe - we certainly didn't have a walk in shower like another reviewer! Overall, a positive experience - we would visit again.

"Great views"

NKing, London, United Kingdom 21/04/2018

We were given a Virgin Experience Days voucher for two nights and dinner on the first night, for this hotel. The rooms are clean and beautifully decorated. Dinner at The Green Room was very good. The best feature of this hotel is the location and if your room faces the Lincoln Cathedral, waking up to a view of the looming cathedral.

"Nice Hotel, Great Location"

SteveNScottsdale, Scottsdale, Arizona 20/04/2018

Stayed here for 3 nights. My room had a nice view of a park area and was clean and quiet. The furnishing and carpet could do with updating, but it was very clean, The location across the street from Lincoln Cathedral is great and that was the focus of the visit. Would stay again.

"Perfect position by the Cathedral"

Paul M, Cambridge, United Kingdom 20/04/2018

We got a Secret Escapes deal for a deluxe room overlooking the cathedral and it did not disappoint. On the third floor the rooms have a small balcony that I could have sat on all day just watching the changes around the cathedral. The room was really comfy, air conditioning, good bed and a walk in shower. Coffee and tea available in the room including a Nespresso machine. The building is a sixties block and doesn't really add much to the surrounding area but the decor inside is very sixties and looks newly done. There is a good car park at the back of the hotel. If there were any problems they were around breakfast and enduring the food you may want was available when you wanted it but there was never too much of a wait. Enjoy you stay.

"One noght stay"

"Nice room, shame about the lack of breakfast"

FlorrieF18, Grantham, United Kingdom 11/04/2018

Arrived at the hotel about 8pm at night, sat nav took us to the front of the hotel and had to Google to find the car park, which is round the back. Could do with a sign at the front to direct guests. There was ample car parking and a walkway to the back entrance of the hotel. Check in was very quick and we were directed to our room. The room was nice, with a lovely view of the Cathedral. I would definitely recommend booking a Superior Room as without the view, our stay would have been much less enjoyable. Two nice chairs and a table in the room and ample clothes storage. I thought there was a lack of plug sockets though, which always makes it difficult when charging phones, watching tv and wanting to use the kettle, etc. The tea and coffee was good; it was really nice to see a selection of fruit teas. The toiletries in the bathroom were good also and the shower nice. We did have an issue with our toilet not flushing and on the first night had to fill the cistern with water via the kettle. This seemed to resolve itself by the next morning otherwise we would have reported this. Room service was great, delivered promptly in a nice picnic basket. The biggest disappointment for us was breakfast on the first morning. Breakfast was advertised as being served until 9.30am, we arrived at the room at 9am to find all (except the mushrooms) the hot food trays empty. Although the food is nicely presented with some alternative options (we managed to see the next day!) e.g. fish and cold meats, the lack of any hot food was disappointing. Even the toast had run out. When questioned, the waitress delivered some beans but no sausages, bacon, etc. The menu states that non-guests can eat breakfast at a cost of £11.50- very expensive to have nothing. When we mentioned this we were told 'Oh dear, they'll be some tomorrow'. We were seated in the far window, right next to the hot trays. The sun was glaring through the thin curtain, meaning I couldn't look at my partner and the heat was ridiculous. The Reception staff were friendly and helpful; booking taxis, etc and the hotel is well situated for a wander down steep hill.

"Great, stay"

lauraloumk, London, United Kingdom 09/04/2018

We stayed at the hotel 18th-20th March, we got a deal through Virgin experiences and have to say that it was great value for money, it included two nights stay, breakfast both days and an allowance towards dinner on the first night. Location of the hotel is fantastic, beautiful view of the Cathedral and just a short walk to most of the major sites you would want to visit. Restaurant was ok, food was nice and they dealt with my allergy requirements fantastically, only downside is the restaurant only had a few tables being used the night we dined there and it was quiet and lacked atmosphere. Room was clean and comfortable, it was snowing when we arrived and extremely cold outside so we were delighted to find that are rooms were kept warm at all times. Staff were friendly and made you feel welcome. Would definitely recommend staying here.

"Weekend visit to lincoln."

brihobo, Coventry, United Kingdom 06/04/2018

The hotel was in a great location opposite the cathedral, breakfast and food in the restaurant was excellent.special mention to our waitress Sammie who was very friendly and good at her job.I hope to be back very soon with my daughter.thanks Brian and Ali of Coventry.

"Good staff, shame about the hotel."

Maureen L, Straford on Avon, United Kingdom 04/04/2018

This is a sprawling hotel, decorated with outdated wallpaper and furnishings. The lounge, half carpeted, has no comfort with old fashioned chairs and the wallpaper is terribly outdated. The huge windows make the room seem cold although they do look over the Cathedral. The dining room chairs are spindly, see through items, which look as though they wouldn't hold any great weight. There is no discernible disabled entrance with quite steep steps leading up to the front entrance. The bedrooms where we were, were just boxes although it is understood there are better rooms. The bed was comfy though. The meals at dinner were 'haut cuisine' which is rather sparse although the soup was delicious. Not a hotel we would go to again. However, the staff were really excellent. Best Western can do much better than this.

"Good value great position"

Russspencer1957, Sutton in Ashfield, United Kingdom 02/04/2018

The room was very clean...Very comfy bed .Plenty of quality towel in the bathroom and toiletries provided. Free internet . Hairdryer. The breakfast was excellent with a great choice rabbit from a full English to cereals, salmon and Danish pastries.....And plenty of it. The hotel is in great position opposite the cathedral. Although were were able to leave the car in the car park after checking out so we could go into town, we had to pay a small fee when checking in to leave the car there. I don't think that you should have to pay to use the car park as you are a guest. Other than this a great hotel and good value.

"one night stay in lincoln"

stephen s, Middlesbrough, United Kingdom 02/04/2018

Booked this as surprise for my wife as we love Lincoln. Hotel is in great location next to the cathedral and pubs/restaurants, also private parking onsite. We booked a king deluxe room which had good views of cathedral and a small balcony. The room was spacious and quiet but unfortunately the bed was very poor and worn with creaks and groans at every move we slept very poor, the bed head was also badly stained by use and needed a clean. Room overall tho was clean. Breakfast was buffet style, plenty of choice and tastey. Staff overall helpful and cheery. Complained about bed at checkout but think it fell on deaf ears, fact we had no sleep didn't seem to bother the lady at all.

"A delightful afternoon tea."

berilldon, Lincoln, United Kingdom 01/04/2018

Top marks for the afternoon teas in the retro style lounge area,Started with a glass of sparkling wine followed by the concept picnic style tea.The cakes scones and sandwiches ,all yummy were presented on a miniature style picnic bench complete with checked table cloth and accessories, even the pebbles were edible,Fantastic concept and high quality food together with excellent service guarantees a superb teatime treat.

"A lovely hotel with friendly staff!"

deemullings, Brighton and Hove, United Kingdom 27/03/2018

We stayed in a Superior Room with a balcony looking directly at the Cathedral. We were spending a weekend to attend a family wedding. The room was spacious, well-equipped & very comfortable, with lots of little extras, like an ironing board & iron in the room. The staff were so very friendly, especially Blaine on Reception who helped us in a crisis after we locked our car keys in our car, which necessitated us to stay an extra night! We would thoroughly recommended this hotel - close to the Cathedral & town!

"Great place to stay"

J L, Peterborough, United Kingdom 27/03/2018

Hotel is situated right opposite the cathedral. Great location for exploring the town. Room was spacious and clean with superb view. Staff were friendly, smart and helpful at all times. The hotel restaurant was wonderful and we had a lovely meal, I look forward to returning soon.

"Very good hotel"

RussBrighouse_UK, Brighouse, UK 27/03/2018

We chose the Lincoln Hotel mainly for it's position however we were very pleasantly surprised with the hotel overall. There is car parking on site in a large car park. The check in process was trouble free and the receptionist very friendly. We had a deluxe room with views of the cathedral. The room itself was a good size with a decent size bathroom and one of the comfiest hotel beds we have slept in for a long time. The first night was very warm. The following day we found that, apart from the central heating, there was also a plug in heater which was plugged in and turned on. Once that was turned off the second night was just right. The hotel was very quiet at night and we both enjoyed a good nights kip. We tend to steer clear of hotel restaurants however we decided to give the Green Room a try. We were both glad that we did. The food was excellent and the service top notch. The hotel bar is well stocked and the service is quick. The whole hotel has a very good retro feel from the wallpaper to the light fittings. Some people may not like that but we thought it was very well done. Breakfast was also very good. All the food was well prepared on the hot plates. We even saw a member of staff using a thermometer to check that it was the correct temperature! It is within easy walking distance of both the Castle and the Cathedral. There are numerous good pubs also within easy walking distance. To get into the centre you have to walk down and back up Steep Hill which is aptly named. Alternatively you can take the regular bus service from just outside the castle. All in all a very enjoyable stay. There were a couple of small points but not enough to stop us giving it five stars. We would recommend it.

"Friendly and Welcoming"

Ckn0x1925, Peterborough, United Kingdom 26/03/2018

My husband and I chose Lincoln Hotel due to the location, having never stayed there before. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the hotel was clean, warm and modern. We had a meal in the restaurant on the first night and it was faultless and surprising good value for money. If you want to lay in after 8 am, then you may have an issue with the Cathedral bells, but Lincoln is alive early in the morning with so much to see and do. Situated north of the Cathedral, far enough to be from center, but two minutes walk you are in the hustle and bustle of it all. If we had to make a comment about 'would be better if', it would only be that they have no pool which we would have to consider if we were to take the children on a mini break. However, my husband and I will definitely go back.

"Eastgate revisited"

S7014ZCjohnt, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom 21/03/2018

The hotel was built in 1960's, and retains that distinctive 1960's style, but still being clean and fresh. Well presented and in pole position for Lincoln's prime tourist attraction, the stunning Cathedral. Our room had a superb view of the Cathedral, directly opposite the Hotel. Great service, polite, helpful staff, high standards of cleanliness and good food. On site parking, brilliant position to explore the historic, uphill square mile, castle and if not eating at the hotel, many other bars and restaurants nearby. This would always be my first choice for quality and value when visiting Lincoln.

Having stayed at the hotel on numerous occasions before i was lucky to be upgraded to one of the executive room's and it was a very welcome upgrade. Sitting area, coffee machine and more space. Oh and not forgetting the balcony with fantastic views of the cathedral. Always warm and friendly staff, great breakfast and all round another great comfortable stay. Charlotte G, Cambridge, United Kingdom 13/03/2018

We booked the ‘Green Room' for a family function, not only did they struggle to find our booking to begin with but upon entering the room it was freezing. We were told by the manager (or so we were told) that the heating would turn on at 4:30 (we arrived at 4), yet by 7:30 it was still not on despite us asking. The room would be more suited to the name the ‘Dark Room', even though we had all of the lights on, blinds up, it was still dark and was made even worse by the large image on the centre wall. It didn't end there, we had chosen and pre-ordered our food as they had asked yet it still took a few hours to receive all courses, so much so some of our relatives had to cancel 3 rescheduled taxis. When we asked where the food was the waiters just shrugged and disappeared. The portions were tiny, there were only 6 pieces of gnocchi on a plate! We asked for sauces, vinegar etc but by the time it arrived, everyone had finished eating. It was also incredibly overpriced. It seems as though it's a 3 star trying to be 5 but not very convincingly.

"Lovely stay"

Susan R, Birmingham, United Kingdom 13/03/2018

My friend and I booked this hotel for 2 nights for our husbands Christmas presents from Secret EscapesThe week before our visit would have been impossible due to snow, but when I had contacted the hotel, they had assured me that if the weather prevented us from travelling, they would happily rearrange. Excellent. As it happened, we were fine. The bar was a bit short of wine on arrival as they had not had a delivery for over a week, but soon remedied. We were struck by how helpful and friendly the staff were. Our rooms had fabulous views of the Cathedral, and we had large walk in showers! The bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed both breakfasts, and had a very nice dinner in the hotel on the first night. The hotel is perfectly placed for visiting the Cathedral, castle and old town. A delightful stay, and thank you to all staff, everyone was so helpful.

"Don't be put off by the view from the exterior."

User 10/03/2018

This is a Best Western Hotel although you'd never know that from outside - it looks more like a 'clubby' type place. Reception is very friendly and we were quite quickly processed. The view from our room was pretty nondescript as was the room itself - which was amazingly hot and stuffy on the first night - by night two we'd turned the radiator off and opened the window - unlikely actions when the outside temperature was so low! Everywhere seemed clean and tidy although paintwork in need of a bit of TLC. Neither the bathroom or the ladies had toilet brushes - an omission we felt. The buffet breakfast is amazing ( £11??) - all the usual items, but in addition there was a platter of smoked fish - salmon, trout and mackeral. To order were smoked haddock and, I think, kippers. The breakfast room faces the cathedral over the front garden area. This is covered in artificial grass whch unfortuately seems to be used as a short cut for the general public, which means that there is a walk way clearly shaded. The Lincoln city centre bus stops right at the side of the building.

gift from daughter for xmas -- lovely view over looking the cathedral --Cathryn our waitress was pleasant-- not rushed--enjoyed our afternoon tea --have stayed at the Lincoln 3 times in the past -would return for both tea and accomodation PS we only live 5 miles away

"Great place for a lunch or dinner"

Dave V, Retford, United Kingdom 05/03/2018

We visited for dinner at 7.30 pm - easy parking behind hotel, very pleasant little restaurant and attentive staff. Meals superb - but you do need the extra veg with the mains. Recommend scallops to start an lamb was excellent as a main. Excellent view of cathedral.

"Great hotel. Fantastic location"

Scudder_uk, Newbury, United Kingdom 04/03/2018

We had a first floor, cathedral view room and couldn't have asked for more. The room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. The hotel is ideally located for walking into the city and castle and we had no need to use our car all weekend. Dinner in the Green Room was lovely and wine a decent price. Very good breakfast in a spacious room the first day, but due to a wedding party the following day breakfast moved to spread over a couple of rooms, which meant trudging quite a way to get food. That said, once again breakfast was very good and plentiful. Would absolutely recommend this hotel. All staff were great, especially reception.

"Fabulous for lunch"

857billf, Lincoln, United Kingdom 27/02/2018

Great location, lovely retro lounge with views of the Cathedral and a relaxed atmosphere. Excellent choice of sandwiches, salads, afternoon tea or cream teas. The chips are the best I've ever had. Would definitely go again.

"Excellent view of cathedral"

elizabeth190791, Grantham, United Kingdom 27/02/2018

Just returned from a 2 day break. Lovely hotel and lovely to see the cathedral. Our room was very nice and warm, the only gripe we had was that the corridors were very cold has no sign of radiators, also the loung/bar area was very cold, at times the air con seemed to be on. we wud of spent more time in the lounge/bar area if it had been warmer.I would of given it 5 stars if the public areas had been warmer.

"Favourite hotel"

Regwin, Norwich, United Kingdom 26/02/2018

This is one of my favourite hotels. We were on the Friday package which gets you a room with a cathedral view, breakfast, three course a la carte dinner and a bottle of prosecco for £140 for two people. Fantastic value. The dinner was excellent with no restrictions on what we could order in the price. A small but useful point is that the room had two comfortable armchairs so you don't have to sit on the bed to read or watch TV. Too many mid price hotels lack this basic comfort.

"Overnight business trip"

Jme1969, Acle, United Kingdom 26/02/2018

Hotel has easy parking (with extra surcharge), with accessible reception (well lit walkway). Room was good and clean with opening doors to small patio with Lincoln Cathedral in view (nice on summers morning/evening). WiFi easily found and used. Breakfast was great, with a wide variety of foods/drink available - well presented (buffet style) with extras available if required. Location good for evening restaurants and bars around bailgate and surrounding area.

"Nice 2 day break. Very comfortable bed."

Andy B, Corby, United Kingdom 22/02/2018

This is a nice hotel, it is at the top of a long steep hill, so be prepared!. We had a deluxe room. It was spacious and comfortable, although a little dated. The bed was really really comfortable, we slept well. The only drawback for us was breakfast on our second day, a Saturday. They ran out of several food items at the same time, scrambled egg, bacon, sausages. It took a while for supplies to arrive. Customers were frustrated. All that the serving staff could do was wait and apologise. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Would go back.

judithwZ8892KO, Rugby, United Kingdom 20/02/2018

Excellent breakfast. Great central location. My room which was a standard room was pretty badly in need of an upgrade with patched paint on the walls, very tired bathroom but it was perfectly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable and it was quiet as it was at the back of the hotel. If you want a room with a view you need to be at the front of the hotel overlooking the cathedral.

"Excellent Location"

Alex H, Canterbury, United Kingdom 20/02/2018

This hotel is located at the top of Steep Hill alongside Lincoln cathedral. Average sized room with slightly dated decor but very clean.Reception staff welcoming and check in was easy and prompt. Breakfast room overlooking the cathedral. Good variety of food but I kept having to ask for refills as serving bowls were empty. Took three attempts to get some drinking water. However when it did arrive I had a large bottle to myself. I asked for this when I arrived for the rest of my stay as it saved trying to catch the staff's attention. On the whole a pleasant stay. Convenient for people looking to visit the cathedral.

"Top marks for the lady on reception"

chambta, Chesterfield, United Kingdom 19/02/2018

It was only a last minute one night stay but I seemed to have cocked up the booking (made via a 3rd party website) as there was no record of us being expected. I, inadvertently, had somehow booked for 7 days later. Thankfully no fuss at all was made and we were allocated an available room. She didn't need to speak to anyone else, just dealt with it efficiently and politely when the hotel were not at fault. The truth is they probably could have got away with charging me more than I'd paid as when I looked (on the decent free WiFi) it turns out it was at least £30 more for 'that' day than the one I'd actually booked. I'm neither clever enough or brave enough to try that again as it could have left us sleeping in the car! Thinking about it I don't think the original booking included breakfast but we got that too, so bonus. I was a little hungover so nibbled a croissant - my other half decided to go for haddock and poached egg and very decent it was by all accounts. Maybe everyone gets it and I'd just not noticed. No surprise given I clearly didn't notice the date I'd booked it for. Anyway, I wouldn't have wanted to pay more as the room was a little dated. Clean enough and the bed was comfy and the temperature just right. Coming in from the rear entrance by the car park (I was charged £5) the place reminded me a little of an 80s old people's home, both in smell and in style. The lift is not that recent though and made a noise like a asthmatic wart-hog with the grave warning not to overfill it with humans probably scary enough to put some off riding it.

"Location ideal for whatever you plan to do in Lincoln"

Pam M, Kingston-upon-hull, United Kingdom 19/02/2018

This visit was a special deal but we did not have less than expected experience. Room was warm, comfortable with everything we needed plus was quiet. Perfect location for exploring all ' levels'!! Of the city and with a car park we used our car as well to visit the International Bomber Command Centre. The hotel has various restaurants/bars and they were both worth visiting. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast had lots of choice plus you could order extra, constantly checked so it did not run out - then the view of the Cathredral. Perfect. We live less than an hour away but wanted to spoil ourselves , on our 40th wedding anniversary, and take time to get to know Lincoln better.

"Group weekend break"

fareynolds, Paralimni, Cyprus 14/02/2018

Visited this Hotel as a group of eight in February 2018. Very pleasant stay with good food and accommodation that was made special by all of the staff who all went out of their way to make our stay that much better. On the night that Bar 67 was close send, they set up a space for us to have the Bar 67 menu in the main Hotel which was a really great gesture. Specific thanks to Rob for looking after us all that evening. Only slight negative is that the Hotel is looking a bit tired but it's location in the heart of the City should not be overlooked.

"Super location for the cathedral"

Tigger576, Stratford-upon-Avon, United Kingdom 12/02/2018

Superb location literally opposite the cathedral and within walking distance of some nice bars and eating places. It also has a good size car park on site. Didn't eat in the hotel but the room was comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Not a particularly pretty hotel but the staff were very friendly.

"Nice view but some updates required when paying top rates."

Hannah12015, Cambridge, United Kingdom 12/02/2018

Great location and we upgraded for a Cathedral view. The balcony area was very dated and needed modifying. The outside was quite shabby. The heater didn't appear to work particularly well hence a 2nd wall heater. The wires for the TV were hanging down the wall and also up high to the plug sockets, looked messy considering the room had recently been decorated quite well. The room was clean and had all the amenities you needed. When travelling to the area we usually pick a more country retreat hotel which is much nicer and cheaper if I am honest but I guess this is what you pay for a central hotel. We were disappointed that we couldn't book the restaurant for an evening meal as it was fully booked but luckily we found a great Thai round the corner and some great cocktail bars. Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice, better than most buffet style set ups. Food was piping hot and staff very friendly. If you need somewhere central for a night then you won't be disappointed but I wouldn't say it's value for money. Also be aware the bells start ringing at the Cathedral at 7am everyday and seem to go off every 15 minutes, so if you need your sleep this won't be the place for you unless you have ear plugs!

"A very convenient hotel"

Jack S, London, United Kingdom 12/02/2018

This hotel is well situated for a visit to the city of Lincoln. It is located directly opposite the cathedral and convenient for the centre of the town. Our room was small and comfortable but suffered from the disadvantage of overlooking, and being overlooked by, rooms directly opposite. The staff were friendly and hospitable. I think that we were there with Susan F.

"Great Staff at Hotel "

Barry J, Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom 11/02/2018

The hotel looks dated from the outside and very 1960's which it is. The Reception is rather stark and again decorated in the 60's style. This was more than compensated for by the welcome from the staff who were efficient, friendly and helpful. The food in the Green Room was of a high standard and excellent value with, once again, exceptional staff. Breakfast was a self service affair and was fine but no plate warmer was a disappointing. Stayed in a superior room facing the cathedral with shower but no bath and was rather darkly lit at night Overall a good experience and would readily stay again

Lincoln_Hotel01, General Manager at The Lincoln Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Barry J, Thank you for your lovely review, I am delighted you had such an enjoyable stay and were able to take advantage of the Green Room Restaurant. Many thanks for your comment regarding the plate warmer at breakfast, something I will be looking into. We look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future. "Centrally located hotel good for old Lincoln and easy access to city"

Swinimp, Swindon, United Kingdom 05/02/2018

Very welcoming hotel friendly staff in reception and very clean and comfortable good value ....only downside was the breakfast....on both days not very well organised kept running out of all types of did all come lucky we were not in a hurry Great location for castle , cathedral and bailgate

"Weekend break "

User 05/02/2018

Absolutely loved it here Stayed in the old part of the hotel in the very nice princess suite. Staff were friendly helpful and very pleasant. Food in the Green room was of excellent quality and breakfast was also very good. Hotel has stuck to it's 1960s deco / design but kept in touch also with the modern era. Our room was spotlessly clean and had a very comfortable bed. So convenient for all the sights of historical Lincoln. Will definitely use this hotel again

"Ideal city break hotel"

Ian_KW, Stafford, United Kingdom 05/02/2018

Shame about the dreadful 1960s "police station " architecture but once inside the hotel is very comfortable. Tiny quibble about the room - electric sockets few and far between; we're used to American usb socketed bedside lamps. Also, why don't British hotels provide flannels? Breakfast was superb, we didn't eat again until 18.00! Didn't try any of the in-house catering because it is so easy to get to the many eat/drink venues in the old city. Lovely stay, highly recommend Lincoln and this hotel

"Great location, needs a wow"

sargi24, Norwich 04/02/2018

Liked the loyalty to its original 60's Architecture but needs a good scrub, smells trapped in the landing carpets are quite overpowering for example. No idea why there's a £5 car park charge, your either a guest or not!

"Said we'd come again!"

tyketyke, King's Lynn, United Kingdom 02/02/2018

We've stayed here before but this time we were just clocking in before a concert in the cathedral. Think it used to be called the Eastgate but it doesn't matter, this is a friendly well run hotel and we are happy to recommend. I enjoyed being a fly on the wall as the orchestra for the concert checked in. Will arrange another stay here - a great base for a wonderful city.

"two nice days spent in Lincoln"

jamLeeds, Leeds, United Kingdom 24/01/2018

We booked a couple of days at The Lincoln Hotel as a twixtmas break Staff are very welcoming and engaging. Our room was fine and the fact that there was an internal connecting door on both side suggests possible connection with adjoining rooms, this a definite plus for a small group or family. The room was clean and comfortable The en-suite has a shower over the bath which is not a problem usually but for us oldies less accessible, next time I shall ask for a walk in shower. This hotel is clearly a 60's build though for the most part the refurb has been a success .Our room was a bit of a treck so we know next time to check before booking. The dining room and lounge on the upper level has a truly magnificent view of Lincoln Cathedral. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice, well done the Lincoln, the Lincolnshire sausages were excellent. We ate in the Green Room restaurant one evening. this was fine with a good menu and not over priced wine list. One couldn't help but have the feel we were in a cellar - despite a window seat. Had we discovered bar 67 before our departure we would have probably headed in that direction. This hotel is perfectly placed for visiting this lovely city; the Cathedral Castle and upper town literally a few paces away. recommended and one on our list for a return

Stayed for a sat night deluxe room with cathedral view the room was lovely had all the little extras robes which were a good size! Slippers coffee machine and a small balcony, the ged was huge and very comfortable We had afternoon antipasti £12 for 2 of us and it was huge! But delicious Breakfast was amazing with everything you could think of freshly made and excellent service throughout our stay Very impressed with the hotel as we had to cancel this booking twice due to me having an Achilles injury and they honoured the room and price Will certainly visit again even if we only live in louth 26 miles away! Thanks for a lovely stay

"New Years Eve"

thespreadoutfamily, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom 20/01/2018

As "the family" live in different locations around the country, we try and get together at the New Year, each year trying a different location. The Lincoln Hotel was a good choice. The evening was well organised, food was excellent, wine was spot on (Merlot), and a good time was had by all. Standard rooms are clean and "cozy" for a short stay but for a longer duration, an upgrade would be required (more room to swing the cat). Staff are friendly, discreet, but there when you want to order something. The cherry on the top has to be the food. Breakfast choice was good and filling but the evening meal we had on the second night was up there with the best. Deciding what to order was easy as each course had only half a dozen or so choices which took away the "I can't decide factor" and everything was cooked to perfection. If you live local, a visit just for the food is recommended. Hats off to the chef and the kitchen staff. Would "the family" book the New Year Bash again.............. you bet we would.

"Very good value in the cultural area"

The_Magpie_on_Tour, Stafford, United Kingdom 15/01/2018

I had a good room with all the amenities for a two night stay. The bed was comfortable and a good buffet breakfast was provided with a great selection of both traditional and continental food. The hotel is in the cultural area of Lincoln where most of the older buildings, cathedral and castle are located. It is within easy walking distance of these and, a number of restaurants and pubs.

"Friday night concert"

User 13/01/2018

Overall a pleasant stay, staff friendly and room quite sufficient for our overnight stay, bed extremely comfortable and breakfast tasty with bonus of window table. Would have liked a teapot for our tea however and I guess I'm old fashioned with wanting waitress/waiter service rather than self service buffet which most hotels seem to go for. Would stay here again though, good location and my husband loved the shower which says it all...

"Weekend stay"

User 13/01/2018

Excellent location with a view of Lincoln Cathedral and a short walk into the centre. Built in the 1960's but with some modernisation. Good choice for breakfast - cooked buffet and wide choice of continental and cereals. Comfortable rooms and bed, although avoid room 215 as you can hear the noisy lift very easily! Helpful and welcoming staff. Also a bar in the evening and lunches - although we stayed in the city. Free car park with code needed to leave. Would stay for a weekend again. We stayed the first weekend in January so it was lovely and quiet everywhere.

"It was probably nice in the 60's"

ajaytl, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom 10/01/2018

Well, from the outside it's about as appealing as a wet fart. But I was booked here on business so didn't have a choice. I've walked past it before, a wedding was going on. At the time I think I said 'Why on earth would you want to get married there?!' Having now stayed here I stand by that comment. Walking to the rooms feels like you're on the set of an adult movie from the 60's, everything is so very dated. Alas, I held out hope my room would be an improvement. Whilst it's not quite as retro as the rest of the interior, it's seen and smelt better. The stench comes across as a mix of never aired damp and hospital. Chipped paint on every wall corner, bubbling plaster and a damp wall where the tiles are blown in the bathroom, long hairs on both the bathroom tiles, toilet and windowsill. The worst part is the amount of black mold around the ceiling in the bathroom, why wouldn't you just wipe it down...or even treat it. It's no doubt due to the amount of fur bunging up the air vent, takes two seconds to vacuum. Around the bottom of the shower screen was just grim, corroded metal that had seeped into a sad state of rust and gunk. And that's before you get to the huge spider waiting on the wall when i got back from dinner, the other smaller spider in the corner of the room, the toenail clippings behind the bedside draws, the inch thick dust behind the headboard, the empty shortbread packet between the desk and TV unit, the ripped duvet cover...oh and then there's the welcome pube on the bathroom sink. You can probably see why it took me 10 minutes to muster the courage to get into the shower. I was no doubt the cleanest thing in here. Thank christ I wasn't paying the bill otherwise I'd have left. It may be opposite the Cathedral, but you wouldn't want to leave your dog in this room overnight.

"Average Room. Awesome breakfast"

lankylegs34, Lincoln, United Kingdom 09/01/2018

We stayed over on Saturday 6th January and spent £85 B&B. I'll be honest. I was a little disappointed with our room. It was clean enough, although the vent in the bathroom needed a really good vacuum. There was a broken glass for water in the room which we had to go down and swap out. The bottom sheet on the bed hadn't been put on properly so I had to pull that back on so that I wasn't seeing the mattress. Attention to detail was sadly lacking. For £85 I do expect better. Having said that the room was quiet. We got a really good nights sleep. The shower was amazing. Plenty of hot water and good pressure. Where the hotel redeemed itself was at breakfast. It is amazing! If you get down early enough you can pick a table with views of the Cathedral. The food itself was excellent and so much choice! Cold meats, yogurts, pastries, breads, full english and lots of juice choices too. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The location is excellent. Within walking distance of the Bail area of Lincoln and if you feel brave enough you can venture down Steep Hill into town. Don't do that in really high heels as I did!! Our room number was 326. It does not have views of the Cathedral but had a small balcony.

The Lincoln Hotel excelled itself over the Christmas period - the staff were on hand 24/7 always polite and helpful - the deluxe room overlooking cathedral clean comfortable and nicely decorated - waking to the sound of cathedral bells - over a very busy period the food was excellent for a busy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day - The Green Restaurant was also delightful and cosy.....we are looking forward to our next stay at the Lincoln Hotel

"Comfortable hotel with good parking within the old city"

bigles, derby 02/01/2018

Stayed here for a 2 night New Year break with friends. Parking can be an issue in Lincoln so was very pleased to see excellent off road parking at the hotel. Check in was quick and efficient & we found our room after a trip involving lift, stairs and numerous corridors and fire doors. Small, clean comfortable room with double bed and a full sized bath (great after walks) We were in a quiet area with a view of near by mansions & we could see the cathedral slightly. Good double glazing worked well for the church bells. Breakfast was plentiful with options for freshly cooked eggs if required. Lovely view from the dining room. Juices were very watery & some of the buffet breakfast items were dry. Freshly made porridge was excellent. Coffee was OK. The bar was OK and not too expensive but the late bar was cashless, having to put the bill on your room tab. This took time and was unnecessarily complicated for the poor staff members to work. I was told "it is the law" ? As it was New Years Eve they could have had more staff on, I thought. Checkout on New Years Day was busy but efficient & most staff were friendly & courteous. Perfect location to look round the historic city. Lacks charm in building design but makes up for it with parking, location and staff.

"Very friendly"

Stephen M, Watford, United Kingdom 01/01/2018

Have stayed here a number of times over the years. Staff are always very friendly and helpful. There was a problem with my room when we got there but this was quickly resolved by the staff. Great views and setting. Varied breakfast menu . Good was good. Stayed on New Years eve. Staff very hard working and good natured under pressure

"Birthday weekend"

spireman, derbys uk 01/01/2018

Have stayed in this hotel numerous times as our son lives nearby. This weekend was to celebrate a special birthday on Saturday 30th December. I was a little disappointed that they only allow you to book a 2 night stay at this time of year and breakfast wasn't included as it has been on previous occasions and at £264 for 2 nights in a superior room I would have expected breakfast included. Breakfast is buffet style and there was smoked salmon - what more could you ask for? The hotel is in an excellent location for the cathedral, castle and Lincolnshire life museum. Brayford quay area is a long walk down the Steep Hill and I would recommend a taxi for the return journey. My husband emailed the hotel as he had ordered some roses for my birthday and there was a box of chocolates and a card awaiting our arrival. I thought this was a really special effort on their part so well done! The only downside I think is the lift - it seemed to bear a grudge against me and the doors trapped me on more than one occasion! It seems a little old and creaky. All in all a great weekend made that little bit special by the thoughtfulness of this hotel.

"Enjoyable Stay"

Z4736TQmike, Lincoln, United Kingdom 28/12/2017

In my view, the only downside to our stay was that the hotel charge a car parking fee. I fully understand why they would do this for non residents but to charge your very own customers who stay and dine at the hotel is a bit of a cheek!

"Christmas disappointment 23-26 Dec"

Johno40dorset, Dorset 27/12/2017

Hotel overall ok but looking tired, dirty carpets but generally ok, lounge looked good (retro) We had 2 bedrooms. Both were small and tired but ok facilities. When we went into the 2nd room (for my adult son) the bathroom had an open soap, brown water in pan, sticky finger marks on toilet button and a pubic hair on the seat! Not good housekeeping! We got the room changed quickly but still shouldn't have happened Hotel gym was cold and most of equipment was very tired and worn out. Had Christmas Day dinner in hotel in Elizabeth room with family (wanted it to be very special as it will be my dad's last Christmas). Slow service, room not that festive, food basic - nut loaf especially poor, over cooked and small, turkey portion small (only beef meal was a good portion), lots of veg but all sloppy, over cooked and mixed together, coffee took 2 attempts to be sorted (but manager did do this and was helpful), shame about the rest of the service Only positive was the Irish manager who tried to help and sort the coffees, but the rest of the service was dire (and food was sub-standard) Breakfasts - ok but nothing amazing, coffee (in pots) was disgusting, so much so we waited to have decent coffee in the lounge (having to pay extra for that) Overall in hotel service was poor, unhelpful and we felt like we were an inconvenience to the female receptionist. When we went for Americano coffee in lounge (saying we wanted the decent coffee as we didn't like the breakfast coffee) and asked receptionist for it (as nobody at the bar), she got us coffee but just grabbed some breakfast filter coffee for us (not the proper machine coffee, which was right night to her), and still wanted to charge us the £3 each! When we pointed out to her that these were not the proper coffees (and didn't taste nice) she said “well we are very busy!”, she then huffed and got someone else to make it. We got the proper coffees eventually and were charged the £3 each but didn't get the cookie you were meant to get - but we had given up by then! So disappointing!!

"Boxing Day Meal"

Monty-saurus-rex, Gainsborough, United Kingdom 26/12/2017

I booked The Lincoln Hotel for our family Boxing Day meal back in November while looking through there events section on the website. We were a party of 9, 8 adults and a child (2 Year Old). The Hotel has ample parking and is situated across the road from Lincoln Cathedral, we booked in with the reception very smooth and courteous service and were then shown to the function room that had been made over as a dining room. The staff are very courteous, professional and helpful, we had pre-ordered our meals as part of a Boxing Day menu and this all came together flawlessly. All our meals were of a very good standard and tasted fantastic. The dining room was spacious and felt comfortable the hotel and dining areas are welcoming and well decorated. we all enjoyed our family get together the food and the service, thank you.

"This place could be amazing"

Johnwsm99, Weston super Mare, United Kingdom 26/12/2017

Probably the best located hotel in the city opposite the Cathedral, close to the Castle and the individual shops & restaurants of the Bailgate. And a real advantage it has a decent sized car park which was included in our rate. The staff all seemed very welcoming and efficient and the B & B rate we paid for a deluxe double with balcony facing the cathedral was good value. We stayed here in the 1960s soon after it was built and it then represented the latest luxury in hotel accommodation, the main problem is that it hasn't really maintained that feel. The bathroom was small with a combined bath shower, the heating system was an ancient wall mounted electric radiator & a keypad controlled aircon unit neither of which were easy to control and the overall décor was dated. The bed was comfortable and the television a good standard but sleep was interrupted by random noises, which seemed to come from the roof space based utility systems or the resident ghosts ! Breakfast was based on a pre-cooked buffet with cook to order options and was generally good, on our first morning tea was served in a pot as we always prefer, however on the next morning a Saturday it was a serve yourself tea bag in a mug. Apparently this was to save time on busy days, but just gives a poor impression of customer service and reflects an odd attitude towards hospitality. So apart from the nit picking this hotel does offer a full range of facilities and is priced competitively so we would stay again. However one can't help think that whilst it would require major investment this hotel could become 5 star but then the rates would reflect that.

"Christmas party"

Terri R, Lincoln, United Kingdom 25/12/2017

Myself and some colleagues stayed at the hotel after a christmas party. The 3 course meal itself was disappointing, the food was less then mediocre and the staff were like robots running a food line. The hotel amenities themselves were good, the rooms were clean, tidy and had very comfortable beds and bedding. The buffet breakfast the next day was a lot better the the evening meal although it was fairly cold but with a buffet it's not surprising.

"Would Not Recommend Or Stay Here Again."

ronnie p, Leicester, United Kingdom 21/12/2017

A very disappointing stay, and definitely not worth the price paid for a two nights stay.I would say the only positives are the location and the view of the cathedral.I have stayed in much better for the money paid, and have stayed in better at much lower price!! We stayed in a "Superior room" and i don"t understand how they have come to that description! Nothing Superior about the room we had.The carpet was stained, the shower overflowed, and had to wait for it to go down before being used again(I would have complained but we had already complained about first room) This was the second room. After the first full day in Lincoln,we return to room to find our morning cups had just been "washed out" so there are still visible rings around the mugs! The spoons were still dirty, and remnants of coffee still at bottom of mugs! Just totally unacceptable house keeping. The glasses were still there and empty bottle from the night before too.The shelves had to be wiped down before our clothes unpacked. Also to have drinks bought up to your room is £4 before you even order for room service,we walked to the bar just out of principle!.£190 for a two nights stay is just so overpriced for the room and the lack of house keeping.Im not one to leave a negative review, but on the this occasion i needed to let other travelers re-think before staying here,There is no excuse for what we experienced.I have stayed in much better in Lincoln, and a regular visitor. My advise....Have the rooms cleaned as you would like to find them, maybe visit a few hotels nearby to see how hard they work for their guests and returning guests. You wont always be so successful to use the views for your saving grace or location....Very Disappointed.

"Distinctly disappointing!"

User 20/12/2017

Location fantastic, free car parking - great. That's about where it ends! On arrival we asked if we were able to check in early (If our room was ready)? We were told we would have to wait until 2pm so opted for a drink at the bar to waste the 40 mins until 2pm. Firstly we asked a member of staff which bar we should use, who pointed us in the direction of the bar to the left of reception. We waited & waited & no one arrived, even the girl who had pointed us to the bar (who appeared not be busy) didn't even acknowledge us. Whilst waiting (being next to reception) we noticed that the gentleman who had been behind us was being checked in, so I asked why, to be told that they had just been informed that the rooms were ready. Therefore we went to collect our bags, ready to return to check in..... at this point my husband pointed out that the chap who was checking after us had come out of reception & returned to his vehicle to collect his luggage before we had been turned away?! So we go to check in & I question this. There was no plausible excuse given just apologies. I couldn't & can still not fathom what on earth was going on here. If our room was checked & found not to be ready I'd understand but no check was made, not even our names asked! We then go to our room already deflated because this should have been a relaxing time away & I was already annoyed. The room was dated, with handles hanging off the drawers, bathroom really could have been cleaner with hairs left from previous guest. Bed was clean & very comfortable. It was however really rather cold through the night. We paid extra for breakfast in the morning which was in a soulless room with mediocre ingredients, certainly not worth the money. Overall, overpriced!

"Disappointing ??"

Kelly H, Sheffield, United Kingdom 18/12/2017

Looks a little run down from outside however reception area is nice. Emailed them before hand for a room over looking the cathedral. Not what we got the rooms are basic and a little tired. The bathroom was cold and hot water ran out after a few minutes (room 121). Not worth the money and breakfast is expensive if not Inc. In your room rate. Not enough staff waited at the bar 5mins ended up leaving and going to a pub down the road. The good point is there location but with plenty of accommodation around I would choose somewhere else next time.

"Perfect hotel"

Heather L, Leeds, United Kingdom 18/12/2017

Just got back yesterday from a lovely weekend in Lincoln with my family. Never stayed over in Lincoln before and it was great visiting at this time of year. Very festive and got into the Christmas spirit. We couldn't have picked a better hotel to stay it. Overlooking the stunning Cathedral we had amazing views, very posh and retro style, friendly and helpful staff, cosy bar area and very yummy breakfast. Our room was perfect and very spacious, great decor and clean. Lovely and warm as well and the beds were so comfy! Didn't want to come home ?? went too quick but hope to stay again in the near future :)

We have just returned from a lovely weekend away in Lincoln. Our stay at your hotel was 5* nothing was too much trouble . Room was clean, comfy bed . The breakfast was the best I've had in a hotel for a long time . The chap on reception was really nice and friendly . Looking forward to going back next year with our friends .

"Overnight Stay"

User 11/12/2017

The staff were in short supply and bar staff were completely untrained for such a busy time. The staff did not know what measure to use for what drinks. Bedroom smelt of paint and not very clean. The bath and tiles were particularly dirty and did not look like it had been cleaned during our stay. The bathroom floor behind the door was gritty and dirty and the bedroom carpet didn't look like it had seen a vacuum in ages. Beds poorly made. However breakfast was good although we were not shown a menu of what was available other than the buffet

"Ecellent as always."

geronimo905, Skegness, United Kingdom 10/12/2017

The hotel's site and staff were excellent as always, and our guests, who are used to London's best restaurants, were impressed with the Green Room menu and service. Bar 67 was different -- and very good, though the food was generous for those of us with small appetites.

"Afternoon Tea"

Visiting the area for Xmas market and this popped up on my Travel Zoo site and with a voucher for a bit off I booked. After 1300 we were done with market but our tea wasn't till 1500 but we were so worn out we went in and much to our delight they accomadated us early. Tea was a festive fashion and plenty to have plus drink including some pro secco which we left till last. As we went to leave the young girl even reminded us about the drinks which we had forgotten and we sat down and finished now that's honesty for you.A great experience with wonderful local people serving us and thank god we didn't have to come back up the hill as our car was at the waterfront

"Ideally situated for the Christmas Market"

AshtdMan, Surrey, UK 09/12/2017

We stayed here to visit the Christmas Market which is a stone's throw away, as is the Cathedral which is even nearer. We had a B&B deal but upgraded to Dinner as well for £50 a night. We could probably have eaten cheaper elsewhere but as everywhere was crowded we opted for a guaranteed 3 course meal. The mark of a good hotel is a comfortable bed, hot water and a good breakfast. This had all three. Superb waterfall shower with masses of hot water. Breakfast is a self serve affair, but with extras you can order from the staff such as poached eggs and haddock. There was an excellent choice to suit all tastes and appetites. The evening meal was a set menu with choices of starter, main meal and dessert. It would have become a bit "samey" had we been there longer, but for us it was excellent. The rib-eye steaks were lovely, and cooked to perfection. Our room overlooked the garden and that part of the hotel always seemed colder. In addition it was accessed only by stairs. However in the summer it would be good as you could access the garden from your room patio door. The staff were mainly young but they were helpful, friendly and attentive. They have been well trained and are a credit to the hotel. One very minor niggle and that is that the bathroom had no toilet brush. It is unfair on the housekeeping staff to have to clean away"skidmarks" left by the guests.
