Experience the stunning natural glory of Maui from our historic hotel in Lahaina, the Best Western® Pioneer Inn, located on the edge of Lahaina Harbor, the whaling capital of the Pacific. Few things in the world can approach the splendor of a Hawaiian sunset, and our hotel on Maui gives you the opportunity to take one in every evening. Our building, constructed in 1901, is a registered historic landmark from the plantation period. Its white columns and colorful roof contrasting with the surrounding greenery make it a sight to behold in its own right. You'll be just as impressed by what's on the inside of this front street, Eco-Friendly Maui hotel. Our 34 rooms are newly renovated and wired with Wi-Fi, with a pool that is open year-round. Our onsite restaurant, the Pioneer Inn Grill, serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, while the Whalers Saloon gives you a place to order drinks without having to travel away from our Lahaina hotel. We also have meeting and event space, including an outdoor gazebo that's ideal for weddings and Snug Harbor private dining room. We have everything you could want in a hotel on Maui. You can practically roll out of bed and into the water outside of our Lahaina Hotel, where you can go snorkeling, scuba diving, sport fishing, surfing, parasailing and whale watching. We are the only harbor view hotel on Maui. There are plenty of yachting options as well, including sunset dinner cruises, or you can catch the ferries to Lanai or Molokai. We are also a popular place to stay for employees of the State of Hawaii, Maui Divers, Transmarine Navigation and the US Navy. There's much to do on land, starting with the shops, restaurants, art galleries, and museums of the Historic District within easy walking distance of our hotel on Maui. Just behind our location is Banyan Tree Park, featuring a famously massive, 16-trunked banyan tree planted almost 150 years ago. Book your stay at the Best Western® Pioneer Inn in Hawaii today! Enjoy your stay.
The Pioneer Inn is a one hundred year old hotel originally built for the whaling trade. It is right on the wharf next to the Banyan Park. Totally quaint experience with lots to do and see within walking distance. Pool, night life, beautiful setting. There is no elevator, if that is an issue, request first floor. I will rebook here!
I had called the morning of our arrival and were fortunate enough that our room was ready at 11am. The front desk clerk, Patty, was very helpful in accomplishing this and suggesting we store some luggage and not have to take it up to our room. All the rooms are on the second floor so that was very helpful. You are given a 15 % off food coupon for the restaurant onsite and we used it for breakfast which was nice. It's nice to get a parking permit for a nearby lot since most parking is a 3 hour limit. The rooms are quite small not surprisingly since it is an old property. The A/C worked fine once in the room but they want you to turn it off when leaving the room to save on energy and cost. There is not much floor space in the room for luggage. This property is in a great location for walking around and exploring the town.s
Great hotel. Perfect location. Nice rockers on lanai. Staff is so nice. Property is clean. Nice little pool. It is a historical hotel. Restaurant is good. Priced fairly for the location. I would recommend this property.
Location was excellent within walking distance of everything you needand provided everything you need. Very peaceful and never heard any traffic noise at all. Provide off street parking a short walk away. Loved hasving my own balcony too.
I would have rated a 10 but if you have a room near the smelly kitchen exhaust fan you will not get full use of your outside space, therefore a 9. The hotel has a nice location across the street from the harbor where there is always something to watch. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful, and we had a lovely stay in this quaint old building.
What can I say apart from Wow. A fabulous hotel in a fabulous location with fabulous staff. The hotel in centrally located in Lahaina and is a traditional Hawaiian hotel, non of your high rise hotels, it's just amazing and I highly recommend it.
Best place to stay for the value in Lahaina. Only issue is the air conditioning is loud. It is right in the middle of the shopping. Free parking. No resort fees. But no resort amenities. Which is ok. Staff is very friendly and offer advice when asked. Would definitely stay here again.
Loved the room. It was homey and inviting. This is a quaint place in the heart of downtown Lahaina. The hotel was quiet. Slept wonderfully on the bed. We will stay there again on our next vacation to Lahaina.
Came back again this year very clean and good value Amanda and front desk great. Breakfast always great and attwntive staff. If you are on Front street and tou do not mind the sights and sounds great fir peole watching if not request a garxen view.
This hotel is a true gem. We loved the location and convenience. Staff treats everyone very well. Fantastic restaurant on site. You can explore Lahaina all by foot from here. The hotel offers free parking and no resort fee. We absolutely loved it here.
Downtown as well as across from the boats for hire. Ideal. Ever person who works here tries to be helpful. We knew this was a hotel built over 100 years ago. We therefore expected smaller rooms. The room was bigger than expected. The bathroom was new. Very clean room. We go to Hawaii once a year. We have stayed in the big resorts, condos and smaller resorts. Trying a downtown experience was different. Glad we did it. Again, the staff is the best.
We stayed here over Friday and Saturday night. It's the perfect location if you want to explore the town. It's a historical building, but has mostly been redone. The bathrooms were completely refurbished and there is a modern coffee maker in the room. There's a mini fridge and small TV in the room as well. The best part of this place is it's charm! There is a little courtyard in the back with a pool and our room had an adorable balcony with two rocking chairs and a small table. I think most, if not all the rooms have a balcony. There's a great restaurant attached that has awesome breakfast! They serve lunch and dinner too. As a hotel guest, you get 15% off! Cons- no fitness centre and no elevator so you have to carry your bags up the stairs to your room. Carpets and decor is outdated, but this is part of the historical element so I didn't mind. Pros- free parking offsite (1-2min walk from hotel)
We stayed one night before we headed to our timeshare for a week. We had a small room upstairs facing the pool with 2 twin beds and a nice little balcony. The room was clean, newly refurbished and very comfortable. The bathroom was so clean very modern. The people that worked there were really friendly and welcoming. We had drinks at the bar that night and breakfast in the restaurant the next day and it was very good! I'm not sure if I would want to stay a week, small rooms but it's a great location and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
From boat rides to a submarine cruise, the Pioneer Inn has the perfect location. One can walk to any type of tourist activity with ease. The restaurant/bar was excellent with great entertainment. The rooms make you feel like your are part of history. I will return to this property some day. I can't see staying anywhere else in Lahaina.
Reception representatives with zero service awareness. And it seems that the management of the hotel is not prepared to deal with situations that are somewhat different from the standard. The room was not ready until late afternoon!!!!! They let us wait a long time and kept saying that they cleaned the room even though it took an unreasonable time to clean one room, especially when the check-out time was at 11 am. Afterward, the claims became more sophisticated - they told us there was a problem with the air conditioner. Then they said there was a problem of water leakage in the room. And when we wrote a complaint to the hotel - we were told that the room had undergone a renovation of a bathroom just before we arrived. It seems that the hotel doesn't take such things into consideration. How does it happen that a room that has been booked a year in advance is undergoing renovations exactly on the day that guests have to stay there? And the hotel doesn't try to look for a solution. And even if something happened that was not planned properly – the hotel must act transparently toward the customer and tell him the truth? After a long waiting - we approached the receptionist and asked to cancel the room and had to find another hotel at the last minute. The receptionist at the hotel, who is also apparently not used to unusual events - begins to lose her temper She gusts answered us-"no problem, you can go I'm canceling your reservation" and went to take our luggage out of storage and pushed it toward us. And she said to her college that "that's enough – I'm going I'm done here". Afterwards, the hotel was very cheeky to tell us that they canceled our reservation with no additional charge……. I am a member of Best Western's customer reward program, but it looks like the hotel owns to a private franchisees who do not have service awareness. We lost many hours waiting and of course many nerves and all because the hotel simply disparages its customers. You will see more reviews here that received a low score and you will see that the hotel does not know how to deal with unusual situations
lovely charming little hotel in historic building right in the middle of Lahaina and in walking distance to all restaurants and shops. Rooms (all located on first floor) nice and comfortable in historic style and with a veranda with rocking chairs, overlooking the harbour, Banyan tree and Front Street. Absolutely amazing and superfriendly and helpful staff. The music of the nearby ‘down the hatch' bar/restaurant is sometimes annoying (they have it running day&night, filling the whole quarter with it). I loved the stay in the hotel and would book it again.
The Pioneer Inn isn't deluxe by any stretch of the imagination: no elevator, older décor, mediocre electronics, window AC, etc. -- but it's so charming and authentic that such things don't matter. The building looks to date back to the mid-19th century and is situated in the heart of downtown Lahaina, next to the famous banyan tree, a block away from the historic prison, and in the midst of many historic buildings. It's a very walkable area. You'd think the hotel would suffer from the noise of nearby bars, many with rooftop decks, but I found them barely audible. The rooms are comfortable enough. Mine had two twin beds -- kind of odd these days, but the bathroom was updated with marble and nice fixtures. My room had both a window air conditioner, way too powerful for me even on its lowest setting, and a ceiling fan. I think all rooms come with an outdoor terrace with rocking chairs. None has a full-on ocean view, but there are glimpses of the ocean from some rooms facing south. Off-street parking is provided about a block away. If you're looking for luxury and amenities, this is not the place for you. But, if you're seeking a truly memorable stay in a great location, you cannot do better. I found the history and authenticity of the hotel to be its greatest asset. I hope it never changes.
We stayed at BW Pioneer Inn in late September. It is located near the pier for the ferries and fishing trips. The Building is old and charming. The room is quite small and clean and has the basic amenities. Bed is just ok. Each room has its own AC unit. Ours was quite noisy when it is running. Parking is about 3 blocks away and there is no charge for parking. We enjoyed the breakfast at the restaurant. Hotel guests get a discount to eat there. Many locals seem to go there too. There are lots of street traffic and activities around the hotel so it can get noisy if your room is facing the street. You the the feel of the old charming Hawaiian days from 50 + years ago
After 6 hours of flying, an hour of driving in the heat, very tired, despite all this, we canceled the order (we have made about a year in advance) and went somewhere else. We arrived at 14:00 to the hotel. A young receptionist greeted us, indifferent, apathetic and not pleasant. She told us that our room was not ready yet. OK, you are not obliged to give the room before 15:00. When we returned at 15:00 we were told by another (older) receptionist that the room was not yet ready ... When we asked when will he be ready? the receptionist told us with a blatant and insolent slap: They are working as fast as possible ... " We waited for another half an hour in the "lobby" (We were harassed by a drunk man while the receptionists peeked at us from time to time and laughed at each other ...) and went back to check on the room and then began, a shameful saga, suitable for third world hotels. When we asked when we would get the room, the receptionist told us that it could be at 23:00 at night ...!!! The receptionist began to laugh at us, and tell us all kinds of lies, the room is not ready yet, there is a malfunction in the room, there is a malfunction in the air conditioner, there is a malfunction in the bathtub, and other stories from different stories ...Of course, an apology, a suggestion to move us to a temporary room in the meantime etc they did not heard at the hotel .... Of course, everything was done rudely, contemptuously (mind you, we just wanted to get the room we ordered and paid for in time as agreed) The young receptionist just shouted at us and the elderly receptionist laughed at us right in the face. We canceled the order and went somewhere else. Do not say you were not warned.

As the owners of this hotel we would like to apologize for your experience with our guest service agents. We understand your frustration that your room wasn't ready after a long trip. To make it worse our agents did not realize how upset you were and did not properly empathize. We had just that day finished a remodel on some of our rooms and we were totally full which limited what the receptionists could offer you. I can assure you that this is not an everyday occurrence at our inn and that normally our rooms are ready by 3:00 pm and our receptionists are very accommodating.
Rooms were great. Centrally located motel. Only problem was we were on the 2nd floor & there were no lifts. Lucky my husband was there to carry my luggage upstairs. Restaurant attached to motel & there are shops all around on the ground floor. Good eatery's also across the road.
We also a BW members and ordered the room a year in advanced. Came after a long flight and got gust the answer that the cleaners doing thir best :( That's not an answer a gust has to ear. An hotel has to be prepared for his guests and if the booking hours are by 15:00 they must have the room prepared

I would like to apologize that your room was not ready at 15:00. Your room was one of our three king rooms and we just completed a bathroom renovation in those rooms and there was extra cleaning required by the housekeepers to make them ready for occupancy. We would have loved to have you as our first guest in the newly renovated room. We understand your frustration and did not charge you for the night when you decided to choose other accommodation.
That's a problem. And when you ask what about the room and you get a disrespectful and insulting answer "they are working as fast as they can..." We are paying costumers, we don't care about your problems, if you can not stand behind your promises don't promise it... I accept a value for my money and if I don't get it, I will go somewhere else. Do your own math...
A extraordinary place in the north west staff were on the ball extremely helpful exceptionally clean meals well prepared and presented is a great relaxing experience wish we could have stayed the week the bar and resturant was a blast from the past gangster bootlegger style in a mountain hideout adventure
We always look forward to our lunches at the Pioneer Inn. They have an excellent Nacho platter with Kalua Pork!Generous portions! The location of the Pioneer Inn is Perfect!! Quaint, charming absolutely delightful, it's situated diagonally across from all of the Boating Attractions and Excursions along the Wharf and gives you a real taste of what Lahaina must have been "Back -in-the-Day" when Sailors would come to Port. One of these visits, I will make arrangements to stay at the Inn. Right on the main drag, it would be a great location--and a convenient one-- to walk around town, enjoy the great restaurants, shoppes, and entertainment both during the Day and at Night with the old gaslights burning along the streets. There is also a very pretty Courtyard should you just want to sit, have a drink, and talk under the stars!

Thank you for visiting our restaurant. We hope you choose to stay in our hotel in the future, we appreciate loyal guests like yourself.
The hotel was in a great spot, within walking distance to everything. Our room overlooked the pool and was quiet although the in room air conditioner was rather noisy. We really enjoyed the large balcony and although the room wasnt large it was clean and comfortable. Staff were caring, responsive to requests and knowlegeable about the area.
Right next to the Lahaina harbor, where we boarded a boat to go snorkeling in the morning. The hotel is central to all the the shops and the historic buildings around. It's a great renovation of a historic hotel, with beautiful wood moldings. We had a room with a porch overlooking Front Street and it was lovely to sit out on it in the morning and drink some coffee. I highly recommend for anyone who likes to be immersed into the towns and local architecture (over a huge secluded resort building).
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff were friendly, the location was perfect, the bar happy hour was also great :-) The room itself was well appointed and very clean. We loved having a balcony that we could have dinner on. The pool area was also great with plenty of shaded areas. We will definitely stay here again.
Simple, clean hotel. Large balcony with 2 ample rocking chairs and a room with everything you need incl. fridge/coffee maker/ air / wi-if /hair dryer AND parking nearby. From the lobby simply cross the street to the harbor where you can find all types of water excursions. Lady traveling solo, felt safe.
I was excited to stay at the famous Pioneer Inn. I am a movie buff as well as a history buff. I travel often for business and like to combine my business needs with my nerdy interests. Pioneer Inn met both combinations. With a staff that goes above and beyond to give an island welcome with their positive attitudes along with appreciated smiling faces, I couldn't ask for better service. Mark the GM leads by example. Location, location, location! Sunsets every night! This hotel is within walking distance of everything and anything you want to do in Lahaina.
This hotel is located in central Lahaina right by the Banyan tree, the wharf and shopping. It is an older building, no lifts so you have to lug luggage up two flights of stairs. The rooms are of average size and bathrooms a good size. Each room has a balcony, ours overlooked the pool. Our air conditioner was noisy so we turned it off at night and just ran the ceiling fan. There us a coffee maker and fridge in the room. We found this accommodation reasonable value for what you pay for central Lahaina without going to a resort.
Arrival day is usually one of resting up, so we went to Maui a couple days before our timeshare check. This was an ideal location, near the wharf, across the street from the largest Banyan tree, and above the shops. There is also a balcony to sit and people watch. Because of the age of the building, there are in-wall air conditioners, high ceilings. The hallways to your room are very hot and you have to take stairs because there is no elevator, but that's part of the charm in staying at a historic building. The open air restaurant on the ground floor provides a musician to entertain you.
My family booked rooms for a few days prior to our rental house. This feels like a Mom and Pop shop. The property has been here forever and you feel like your stepping back in time. Talk about budget friendly!!!! Yippee! You are steps from the harbor and literally in Front Street! Cute little place to eat on property with a parrot who will chat you up!!!
My husband and I stayed at the Pioneer Inn in July and enjoyed being right in the heart of Lahaina for a couple of nights. I have little to add to the other reviews except to note that you actually can walk to the beach from this inn. If you go straight out to the dock and turn left and walk past all the boats, in about a quarter of a mile you'll get to a nice stretch of very walkable beach. At the beginning there is a bit of water open to the ocean. When we were there this section hosted surfing lessons every morning and there were maybe 100 surfers of all abilities out practicing, which was quite fun to watch. As you walk further down the beach you enter a section which is protected by a rocky wall or reef so the water there is very calm. A good place for kids to play and for folks to try out their snorkeling gear. I was told that there were "small fish" to see. I'd say I walked about a mile or so before I hit a section of water that crossed the beach and I didn't want to try walking through it. Along the walk you can see nice homes right on the water. Compared to other Maui beaches, this one wasn't anything. But if you're staying at the inn and just want a nice little oceanside walk, it's perfect.
The hotel is old but quaint and the location is ideal. You are right in the middle of town with shops and restaurants and across from the wharf where all the boat excursions leave from. The rooms are small but clean, staff is friendly, and the pool well-maintained. The hotel has parking vouchers to park nearby and a good restaurant where hotel guests get 15% off their food bill. This is a good place for a couple, but probably would be too tight to add a third person to the room (there is a chair bed to pull out for maybe a child but not an adult). The hotel is a good value for Maui.
What a wonderful hotel! Staff was amazing, room was great, and the location is even better. It's located on a main strip. There's shopping, restaurants, and beaches all around. I highly recommend this hotel!
The BW Pioneer Inn is a great place to vacation in Lahaina -- on the Wharf where all the action is. The Victoria (Australia) to Maui boat race concluded the week we were there. I could tell this historic hotel had been recently remodeled as the rooms were nice and updated. Nice patio to sit on - we had a good view. Tough for families -- rooms are small and limited to single or couples (one queen bed -- but very comfortable). Chair bed to accommodate a child is okay (they were newly installed the week before our arrival) but overall not real comfortable for an adult as my friend found out for her 18-year-old granddaughter -- they ended up sharing the queen. Overall, we had a great vacation and loved being in the center of the action at this BW location -- much better than the
Great place, located in the middle of shopping and boating excursion. We would start each day with a large breakfast and end each day with a cold drink. The art work is very interesting . One I believe is Ulysses and the Sirens. The other I believe is the discovery of the Hawaiian islands by Polynesia sailors.
My wife and I recently spent two night at the Pioneer Inn. The hotel really has the best of both worlds: it is part of the large Best Western family while at the same time having the feel of a Bed and Breakfast. The location can't be beat; although the address is Wharf Street, the hotel property is also on Front Street, the heart of the Lahaina activity. In fact many of the rooms have their lanais facing Front Street. The hotel has its own parking lot across the street nearby. The front office staff is very friendly. The office is (wo)manned 24 hours a day and the staff will gladly give sightseeing suggestions. Our room was ready for occupancy early in the morning when we arrived. There is no elevator, so bags have to be schlepped to second floor rooms. There is a very good reasonable restaurant on the property and hotel guests receive 15% discount on all meals. While eating there one is serenaded by the most talkative and amusing parakeet I have ever experienced. Directly in back of the hotel is the Maui-Lanai Ferry. The 45-minute trip ($60 RT when we were there) is scheduled several times a day. Front Street is chock full of shops and restaurants, and you're located right smack in the middle of it all. The hotel has historical significance and is a charming building. All in all, a great location and a great hotel experience. Highly recommended!
100% would stay here again. Perfect location if you want to drop your bags and go explore. Front desk staff was wonderful, room was cleaned early every day, the pool area and courtyard felt secluded even though it was in a busy area of town. I would recommend getting a few more lounge chairs by the pool and upgrade the bathroom to have more counter space, and better shampoo/conditioner/soap options. The carpet and tile floor in bathroom could use an upgrade. We ate breakfast downstairs every day and used 15% off coupon given by front desk staff. Hawaii is expensive. This hotel was reasonably priced.
A great location to stay at, and a variety of food options and shopping just outside! You can also take ferries basically anywhere from the front of the hotel as well as watch the beautiful sunset! Free parking one block away. Our room was located on second floor with a view over the street which was great! The staff was friendly and helpful!
My wife and I stayed at the Best Western Pioneer Inn for one night in April because of its proximity to the Lahaina Luau. We highly recommend this hotel. The location is perfect, right on the harbor and in the extensive shopping area, with the Lahaina Historical Society and Banyan park right across the street. The Banyan tree in the park is absolutely enormous and I read that it may be the largest tree by width in the U.S. The hotel is a real bargain, costing less than $200 for the night. The room was a good size and had a nice balcony to an inner courtyard. The restaurant associated with the hotel was OK, a typical hotel meal. We were very impressed with Mark, the person manning the front desk. He was extremely welcoming with a sincere smile at all times. Just a real nice guy. His good mood is contagious and he is an important part of the hotel experience. It was easy to get to the Luau from the Pioneer Inn. The staff can call a cab, which will be ready when you are, and the ride to the fantastic Luau is only about ten minutes. One important note: after the Luau we recommend taking a cab instead of walking back to the hotel. We started walking back to the hotel after the Luau at about 8:45pm and someone immediately started to follow us. There was no question about it, a creepy situation. We saw him following us and we didn't feel safe, we turned back and he mumbled something and he turned back. We got a cab in front of the Luau and took it back to the hotel. That is no reflection on the hotel since the Luau is not close to the hotel. Just a cautionary note. In summary, the Best Western Pioneer Inn is an excellent choice if you are staying in the Lahaina area.
My wife and I stopped into the Pioneer Inn bar this past January while we were visiting the wharf; the bar is located right across the street from the waterfront - very scenic. We had a couple of drinks each and Kim was our waitress; we found her to be unfriendly - she took extra care and time chatting up with one of the customers (dark skinned gentleman) rather than paying attention to the rest of the customers and asking if we wanted anything else. It would be a good bar to come to in the future as long as Kim is not the waitress.
The Pioneer Inn is located right in the thick of downtown. Close to everything. Hardly needed my car which was parked for free in a local carpark. Staff were very attentive: special thanks to Patti and Samantha. I look forward to bringing my group to the hotel in 2019.
Good service, free car parking just 1 block away. Many many shops and restaurants of all types within 5 minute walk. Hotel restaurant gives 15% off bill. Room small but very clean and accessible. One negative—no elevator. But all rooms on second floor.
A great location to stay at, and a variety of food options surrounding you and shopping! You can also take ferries basically anywhere from the front of the hotel as well as watch the beautiful sunset. The only complaint I'd have is the parking is about a block away and sometimes you can't find parking depending on the time you try to park.
Great staff! Very friendly! Great food and located next to all the stores. I can see the Banyan tree and the ocean from our window. Perfect location, I only wish we would have stayed longer. I am definelty coming back
My husband and I love this hotel! We are so glad we booked this one over the other big name hotels. This hotel has a historic look to it but up to date on everything. The staff is amazing. The only down side we had to this was the day we arrived there was a festival in town and couldn't find a parking spot anywhere that was close to go check in. But over all we would definitely stay here again.
We Loved the Pioneer Inn! It is a beautiful historic building with updated modern amenities. From checkin, with the helpful Samantha, to the cleanliness and comfort of our room complete with large refrigerator and sink, we couldn't be happier. Also enjoyed the comfortable rocking chairs on our balcony that overlooked the “park like” pool. Beautiful trees, plants and flowers surrounded the pool complete with a gazebo! And most of the time you had it to yourselves. We ate breakfast and dinner in the adjoining restaurant several times and thought the food was very tasty. Good beer and wine also. Finally guests at the hotel get 20% off their meal. What a deal! We loved the Pioneer Inn and will definitely go back.
Extremely satisfied. Hotel staff was amazing. As soon as I got off the ferry, walked a few yards straight to the hotel. Perfect location if using the ferry to Lanai. I definitely will stay there again.
Used to love dining here. Mai Tai was tasteless. Had fish and chips, sent them back. Coating was thick and gummy. The calamari that I used to love was over fried and had no flavor. Had an ahi appetizer that was pretty good.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I am so sorry that our food and drinks were not as good as your previous experience with our restaurant. We will certainly take notice of your recommendations and work on improving our fare. Please try us again next time you visit and let us know if we were back up to standard
Really decent property for the cost. Tremendously kind, friendly staff. Couldn't hope for a more convenient location. The parrot is quite fun too!. Seems to be a local hangout at the bar area; restaurant has great views. Average food quality, but prices are surely affordable
You can't do better than this historic hotel for a great stay in Lahaina. Right downtown but quiet at night. Lots of shopping and restaurants nearby Tours and activities can be arranged right across the street. Staff are friendly.
Pioneer Inn is a fantastic hotel in a great location right on the shore front. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable and the staff are exceptional, friendly and great at their job. The building is great, with old fashooned charm you just don't get in the sprawling resorts that scatter the ocean front in other parts of the island Loved it, everything about it.. Highly recommended!
We stayed at the Pioneer Inn two days ago and are genuinely impressed with its Aloha Spirit, Cleanliness, Comfort, Service and Refurbished Rooms. In addition, desk clerks and maids exceeded expectations. We spend a month in Maui annually and have decided that we will stay at the Pioneer Inn as a transition from the mainland to Maui condo annually. If you value the best, you will be pleased with the Pioneer Inn.
This is a small hotel right in the main part of Lahaina across the street from Banyan Tree Park. All rooms are up one flight of stairs and there is no elevator. The restaurant is good but their clear claim to fame is the location adjacent to the pier where all waterfront activity is centered. We have stayed here many times and will again.
This is a great place for food, delicious and reasonable prices, I highly recommend this place. Open at 7 am, coffee was good with a cup to go. They are using paper straws for the Environment. Did not actually stay in the hotel. But loved the resturant and the service people
we loved the location ,right in the middle of Lahaina, the balcony and the pool were really nice touches, breakfast was good too and guests get a discount on all meals in the restaurant we would defiantly stay here again.
Perfect location, rooms are very clean and comfortable , staff very friendly , price very reasonable , the views from our balcony were amazing , the Banyon tree park , the ocean and Front St. Walking distance to all the sights and shops on Front St. The Pioneer Inn restaurant was very good for breakfast a lot of food for the buck. We loved staying in the heart of Lahaina and there was no need to rent a car, everything we wanted to do on this trip was within walking distance. Can't wait to go back next year
We were pleasantly surprised with our stay at Best Western Lahaina. Historic ambiance of Maui at its best! It was very relaxing watching Lahaina Harbor and Front Street from the eclectic balcony overlooking both.
We found the Best Western Pioneer Inn to be comfortable with free parking nearby. The location was perfect for staying in Lahaina. The beds were very comfortable and the price was reasonable given a nice waterfront location.
The Pioneer Inn has a great location in the heart of Lahaina harbor. It is housed in a historic building circa-1900 (read:old). The property offers 34 rooms (twin, queen, and king beds). My room was on the street, which was pretty noisy at times. There are also courtyard/ocean view rooms. All rooms are non-smoking and located on the second floor, accessible via a stairway. The rooms have free WiFi, a/c with ceiling fans, balconies, bath amenities (toiletries and hair dryer), and coffee. There is an outdoor pool and a veranda, plus an American restaurant with a dining terrace and a bar. Parking is free, but its located off-site a few blocks away. Beach towels are available for checkout at the front desk. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Lovely old building in the heart of the town, our room was a little small but clean with all that you needed. We overlooked the Banyan tree and loved sitting out on the rocking chairs watching all that was happening. Yes it can be a little noisy but once the door was closed it was not an issue, all staff very helpful and friendly. Hotel supply you have a car park permit and car park is a block away which is really helpful. We had breakfast included in the attached grill/bar which was of good quality. Overall a great place to explore from road or sea and to watch the world go by whilst rocking in your chair!!
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights of our one week vacation to Maui. The rooms were nice, comfortable beds and nice deck, the best part was the rocking chairs on the deck, we would have a drink in the rocking chairs every night. The service at the hotel wasn't the best we asked for an early check in we had called the night before we came and they said an early check in should be possible. When we arrived at 1230pm they said our room wasn't ready and we could wait by the pool, we went for lunch when we came back at 2 our room still wasn't ready however other people seemed to be checking into their rooms, so we waited until 3pm ( the regular check in time) to get our room. The hotel is located on a very busy street with lots of shops and restaurants around which is a good thing, the noise however is the down fall. Luckily we were located above the pool in room 28 but if your room was on the street side i would think it could be loud. If you are going to do a whale watching tour this hotel was a great location since if is literally right in front of the hotel that you get on the boat.
In the heart of Lahaina The rooms are small but comfortable. There are balcony's, refrigerators and a very small pool. Not many lounge chairs and not many sunny spots. Again, it's location, location, location..There is a great restaurant across the street Paia Fish Market. We got a fantastic dinner to go and sat on the balcony and people watched.
This hotel is in an excellent location on Front St, close to shops/bars/restaurants. The hotel provides free parking across the street, but you must check-in first on the ocean side of the hotel, where you can park directly outside if there is space. This is an old-style property, but my room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. There was a good shower over the bath, an a/c unit above the window (but I did not use it, because the room stayed cool due to the shade from the lanai). The room was equipped with a Keurig coffee machine, a small fridge, 32" cable TV, good wifi, iron & ironing board. There was also a small table and two chairs, plus two rocking chairs and a table on the lanai overlooking the street. The only downside was noise - some from local bars and a screaming drunk late one night, and on two mornings a delivery truck with a very noisy chiller on the cab parked directly beneath my room at 8:20am for 20 minutes. You should ask for a room not overlooking the street if you want any peace and quiet. Please note that all rooms are on the upper floor and I did not see an elevator. The staff were very friendly, and I would stay here again.
best happy hour in Lahaina - mai tai for $4 and plenty of rum!! We went several times during the week. The parrot on the patio is quite entertaining - talks, whistles, conversations with everyone. Have some snacks with your beverages before you move on to the next spot!
Fantastic Inn on the island of Maui. Clean and nice room with a small patio overlooking banyon tree park, Lahaina shopping and the harbour. Great location on Maui only 50 minutes from the airport. Very nice and helpfull staff, will surely be back..
We stayed here one night. We got in late and they were very accommodating. The rooms are very small but do have a very nice lanai and are clean. The location is perfect, right on the harbor. We were taking the ferry to Lanai the next morning which is right across the street from the hotel.
Right in pier in Lahaina, ocean views were great. Hotel old and a bit dated. No handicap access, stairs only. Rooms were dated but clean. Musty smell throughout the place. Great restaurant off lobby. Staff very friendly.
We were here last Fall and had a wonderful experience. Upon arrival, the air conditioning in our room wasn't working well. We traveled with another couple and could immediately tell the difference when we entered their room. The front staff sent maintenance up to “fix it,” but it still wasn't generating cool air. So, they moved us to another room, which was fine. The rooms are dated, but clean. The courtyard area is sweet, and the hotel looks out over the harbor. The restaurant was fabulous...we had breakfast there a few times, and the Bloody Mary's were outstanding! At the restaurant, you could look across the street at the great banyan tree! A natural beauty. Location is perfect...just on the edge of the main strip with all the shops and bars and restaurants. Everything's walking distance, and this hotel was nice and quiet. Overall great stay.
Great location, close to everything. Free parking. Air conditioning but no elevator Great service. Room facing street and harbor, great views with a great porch facing Blanton tree park, but unfortunately a lot of noise. Better to stay in room facing pool if u want quiet. But then no view and porch. Older hotel with a lot of character. Would stay here again
We stayed here for 1 night for our 10year anniversary, we loved the location and the history of the hotel. It was an overall good hotel but does need a few upgrades to justify the higher costs compared to some of the nicer hotels right down the street.
The structure of the hotel is very nice even though not new and a little worn out. The staff is very kind and help you. The parking is free but it's not in a property of the hotel but in a public parking near the hotel. Depending on the schedule it can be difficult finding a free place. The breakfast was not included in my rate and so I didn't do it at the hotel. The most positive thing is the perfect location of the hotel.
This Vintage hotel ( built around 1905) has a country hotel feel but in the middle of a town, the large rooms all with a private lanai are located on the first floor, the rooms at the rear overlook a small pool and a rather noisey compressor. The ground floor is taken up with shops and a good restraurant. Yards from the small harbour, Banyan tree, and the shops on Front St
It's affiliated with the Best Western chain, but the experience was quite different from the usual chain hotel. Being the first hotel in town gets you the best location, right beside the water and in the middle of everything. Our room was quiet and up-to-date. The staff were pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast in the cafe and happy hour were both fun. The system for parking your car works well. In my view all this and the history of the building add up to charm.
We could not be happier with this hotel. Room and balcony overlooking the famous Banyan tree. Staff has been wonderful and has made some great recommendations. Walking distance to stores and restaurants. Would stay here again.
Have friends that have stayed at Best Western at Lahaina. Very good reviews from friends. We have eaten their with family and 4 Grandchildren. Great view of Marina. We plan to make it a hub for shopping, eating, site seeing. resting, gazing, etc. Not fancy but clean.
The staff was great! They went out of their way to help us out! Patti at the front desk was a tremendous help. My daughter and I were stuck and she helped to get us a rate we could afford at the last minute and even put our food in the icebox overnight for us!!
The Best Western Pioneer Inn was a perfectly renovated historic hotel. The rooms were very comfortable and perfectly functional, and I believe they all come with a spacious balcony. The staff is professional and friendly, both at the reception and at the restaurant. We had breakfast at the restaurant, and thought the food was decent. The only thing I would change is the louvered bathroom door, which gives a bit less privacy.
I had the best time on my honeymoon, the people that worked there went above and beyond! You could stay at resorts there, but I never want to stay any place else in Maui! The courtyard is the best place and always clean! Our room was always clean and the best place to come back too while sitting on the deck across from the biggest tree in the United States! Oh side note go downstairs to the resturant/bar for some great music and to meet Alex!
Such a hidden jewel. Right in the middle of what I wanted to do. Neat clean quiet. All the people working here are so kind. The food in the restaurant so good. I would stay here over and over again. If you cannot do stairs this is not the place for you all rooms are upstairs. All rooms have balconies.I loved it.
If you're going on any excursions leaving from the wharf, this hotel is situated perfectly. Rocking chairs on the balcony are a great touch. My only criticism is that for the price paid, a continental breakfast should be included, however, overall it was an enjoyable stay.
Located in historic downtown Lahaina, the hotel faces the waterfront on two sides, the main commercial street lined with shops on another side, and a park on the fourth side, with what must be one of the most spectacular Banyan trees to be found, anywhere. The historic exterior is authentic and blends perfectly with the old towne atmosphere, while the interior is modern and up to date in all respects. My room was nicely furnished and very comfortable. Everything was spotless. My second (top) floor room faced the courtyard area and, while it had A/C, I found it far more pleasant to sleep with the breeze coming through the screen door leading out to the private lanai.
We stayed for 3 nights before moving on to a bigger hotel chain and really liked the Best Western - charming hotel with great character and excellent location. Friendly welcome and great service with evening bar and satisfying breakfast. Would stay again.
This Best Western has a lot of character. It's an older, but clean and well maintained property. The location is great, walking distance to the waterfront, restaurants, shops, etc. We stayed on the banyan tree side so we had a nice view from our balcony of the park, waterfront and a bit of Front St. All rooms have balconies and there's various shops right below the hotel. If you want a view, stay in one of the outer rooms. If you're a light sleeper you might want to overlook the courtyard/pool area as the outer rooms are not overly soundproof. The parking is nearby as street parking can be hit or miss. The staff was friendly and helpful too. This was my first trip to Hawaii and I would stay here again. Mahalo BW Pioneer Inn.
I stayed here five years ago and now just last week. Still a great place. Comfy bed. Courtyard facing room so nice and quiet. If we go back to Maui again we will stay here again. Just a real quaint, well maintained, great staff kind of place.
Old style rooms but was very nice inside, great view of the marina and park, service was great, parking was a little different as it was down the road across the main street. You are right across from the marina and its where the evening cruses are located so if that's your plan you are set, Fleetwoods is right down the street and that makes it even better.
The Pioneer Inn is a very well maintained historic property. The restaurant / bar was the perfect place to relax after a long day of adventure. Every employee we encountered was very friendly and helpful.
It's all about location and atmosphere here. The Inn is located right at the Lahaina Harbor making is very convenient to board a cruise or stroll Front Street. The lobby is charming with a nice meeting room. They offer a limited menu for meeting attendees based on the planner's request. The meeting room staff is very attentive and sincere. There's a shady courtyard giving relief from a warm day.
Hotel staff were very helpful, and made me feel very comfortable, and happy to be there in Lahaina, Maui. Will definitely use the property again in the near future, and would definitely share my experience with others.
Loved the balcony with the view of front street.. Spent a lot of time on the balcony just enjoying the people and views.. Perfect location for good and boat trips. Nice pool and room was quaint and loved the historical building
Based on the strength of trip advisor reviews, we decided to start our day in Lahaina with breakfast at the Pioneer Inn. Karlotta provides outstanding service and is a proud ambassador for this venue. The history of the hotel is very interesting and has a great feel. We had hearty breakfasts, including a side order of the Macadamia Nut Pancakes (with coconut syrup) which are to die for!! We will definitely be returning to this restaurant in the future. FYI - they serve breakfast until around 11:15 a.m. - check it out!!
This is a very old hotel, with high quality prices! But not worth it at all! Way over priced. They charge this because of its location. The carpets are shot! It's old and creepy. Would be kinda cool if it was fixed up and they got happier staff. The night time staff was kind enough to help my sister bring a bag up to our room. There's no elevators, the pool is small, but perfect size for little kids. And the beautiful park across the street with all the trees is full of meth addicts. The whole town is full of them really. Sad but cute little town. Not really a beach town but cute strip, shopping, good food and art galleries. It's a town you drive through to see and do some shopping, not sleep at. Way over priced for the hotels period. I love Best Western hotels, this one was kinda a cool experience, just needs a big up grade for the price!
We eat breakfast here every time we are on the island. It is absolutely wonderful, nothing bad to say about our meals. Macadamia nut pancakes with coconut service, awesome! Will continue to come back, thank you for such great service!
This is the best place to stay in Lahaina. Sitting on the lanai facing the Banyan Tree reminds me of the French Quarter in New Orleans, but calmer. =) It is in the heart of Front Street in Lahaina, perfect for cruises, snorkel tours, shopping, everything!
I don't think they even change the bed sheet! Dirty yellow spots all over the sheet. Also the ac will be off if you leave the room! So when you come back, the room is super hot! The internet is barely working. Can't get a signal at corner room. It's a motel standard hotel while charging Hilton price! Stay away!

On behalf of our entire team I would like to apologize for the experience you had at our hotel. It sounds as if we may have missed cleaning your room prior to your arrival and we will address this right away with our staff. Also the poor internet connection puzzles me since we have upgraded our service to higher bandwidth within the last year. We did have a storm that knocked out power island wide just prior to your arrival so perhaps some equipment was damaged. Rest assured we will rectify this right away. Again my heartfelt apology that your stay was less enjoyable than it should have been.
If you are planning a trip to Lahaina, Maui you should plan to spend a little time at the Pioneer Inn, built in 1901 and has much of the original charm. This Inn is a must weather you plan to stay overnight or just get a bite to eat.
Of the Pacific! No elevator and super steep steps. It's a tough stay for anyone with even minor mobility challenges. Staff delightful and location super fun. Bar and Restaurant are good value. Hotel gives you a 15% discount on food.
This is a great place to stay right in the center of city and next to marina , many restaurants to go . The pool is outdoor but secluded so you have privacy, the restaurant has good food and prices very fair. If you go ask for room 36 large corner balcony street side so you can have a drink /snack and watch the people or just enjoy the moment. The staff is excellent very knowledgeable and helpful
I'm not sure of the actual age here and am sure the history is long and interesting, but this is a unique atmosphere in the heart of Lahaina. If your looking for “modern and new” this is not for you, but what you can expect includes; clean room, updated bathrooms, good tv and internet, and very friendly staff. The location is exciting, scenic, and can be noisy with all the street activities going on. It's not a place on the beach but 30 yards from the water and harbor. Our two night visit included a breakfast and they were outstanding.
Power went out for 11 hours. No TV, No A/C, No Internet, No fan, and a very COLD shower. Think twice about this small boutique hotel, in an emergency they are not equipped to handle it like the large scale resort hotels. They were not equipped to take care of their guests in this situation and gave us only a 30% discount for one day after we asked for one.
Wonderful historic place to stay in downtown Lahaina. Walking to everything. Free parking. Air conditioning. Amazing balcony. We did have some tiny ants around, but it is Hawaii. And the staff was updating the pool area while we tried to enjoy it but that does need to occur sometimes.
Enjoyed our stay there last month for 2 nights. It is a great location right in the heart of Lahaina where are the shops and restaurants are, everything is walking distance. This place has a lot of history, decor is style is old. Rooms are a decent size, as mentioned this has an old decor so don't expect anything modern or fancy but it was clean. I don't think there were any rooms on the ground floor so if you have mobility issues this might be a problem as there are only stairs. Staff were very friendly. AC and wifi were decent. Swam in the pool and had drinks at the restaurant but didn't eat there, no complaints. There is a huge banyan tree beside it that you have to check out, it is beautiful. During the day they sell jewelry and art at the banyan tree park but watch out at night, thats where all the homeless people hangout blast music and yell the word of god lol. It was harmless but might scare kids. I would recommend this place.
The hotel is old. That means the rooms aren't huge, and it is a bit tired. BUT, with that comes the character of times gone by. And a staff that couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable. Our room overlooked the pool with a peekaboo view of the harbor just beyond the hotel. The attached restaurant was a great breakfast place and there was a great coffee shop around the corner. Next door is the most incredible (old) banyon tree and across the street the busy Lahaina harbor. We loved it here.
What you would expect from a BestWestern but with ocean front prices. Room was very small but fine for 1 person. Near many tourist shops and restaurants and on the ocean but not the beach. I found it neat to stay in a historical building like this but would not want it to be a home base for 2 weeks on Maui. Maybe 1 week but not 2. That said its half to two thirds the price of many of the nearby resorts so it's good value if you don't want a resort vacation. Staff was great. I would stay hear again. The area of Lahaina around the hotel was very touristy but not overwhelmingly so.
This old hotel still seems to exude much of the older atmosphere of the island. The location is wonderful--right on the harbor and across the street from the banyan tree where many of the local events take place and local vendors/artists have tables of goods for sell. Unless one is completely unable to handle stairs, even they are a comfortable part of the place--an elevator just wouldn't fit. We loved the balcony and the rockers of an evening.
My wife and I absolutely loved celebrating our anniversary here! The beaches, the sea, the next door Banyan Tree, and so many other factors made this quaint and historic community a lovely setting for us. Plus, the rest of the island is in easy driving distance. The hotel staff was kind as were the servers at the restaurant. While we ate elsewhere most of the time, our meals at the hotel were very delicious. If you are going to Lahaina, stay here!
Perfect location, convenient parking nearby. I loved the charm of the property and the staff is really friendly and helpful. Being walking distance to shops and restaurants was really nice and the harbor views can't be beat.
I never has Hotel service and friendly people like Best Western I recommend this place for vacation to any body visiting Lahaina to chose this Hotel ,you will find peace, friendly people, good food, good service and Samantha in from desk information is very sweet person she give all the details that we need Thanks
The hotel is just at the harbour on the main tourist/shopping/dining street. Friendly reception, and the Hotel looks like it's being kept well. The room was on the smaller side, with a balcony facing the main street. Meaning you got to options. Use the Aircondition and shut the doors or endure the noise of the street outside. Or maybe ask for a room to the side of the Hotel, not sure that this guarantees less noise. Average rating because everything was ok, but nothing special about the Hotel in general.
Came with a girlfriend in September with little notice. Unfortunately, we were here for the death of a close friend, so we didn't have a hotel reservation. Luckily, they had a room open for us. The staff was EXTREMELY nice. We mentioned the circumstances of our visit and they fell on top of themselves to make sure we were comfortable. Additionally, I can't believe how well positioned this hotel is in the city of Lahaina! RIGHT downtown! Beautiful pool. Gorgeous bar. Attentive staff. Next time, we book this hotel for our visit to Maui (under happier circumstances!)
Absolutely loved this hotel and I plan to return. Just wish there was a way to allow people with physical needs to experience it easier. So conveniently located and so much to see and do from shops to the beach right outside the hotel. Samantha at the front desk is very sweet and caring!
Built in the 1860's this old inn has been extended over the years but still maintains all its character . Located on Front street, the Main Street of Lahaina near all the eateries & shops but also opposite the ocean & all the marine tours. Our room was well maintain, a king bed , wet bar (no beverages ) lovely decor & nice bathroom. The bathroom could have had more storage for our toiletries which there was room for, but that would be our only complaint. All rooms have a nice balcony, our roo was on the corner with a wrap round balcony facing the park & Main Street, very nice. If you are looking for a room with pease & quiet we would suggest rooms facing the courtyard & pool. If you like the busy street view & don't mind a little evening noise them rooms 37 to 49, odd numbers only would be the go. The rooms opposite the park are a little quieter & give you a view of the Ocean, park and a glimpse of the street. For us we had the best, room 36 that wrapped around the street corner with great street, park & water views. The room was a good size, modern, very clean. The staff are also very friendly. There bar/eatery was always busy for breakfast & lunch, many saying it is popular with the locals. Dinner on the other had looked quiet.
This hotel has a great location, tons of character, historic value and awesome staff, we have stayed 3 times over the past 5 years and enjoyed every visit. The Pioneer Inn is a unique experience, the restaurant has great food at very reasonable prices.
Such a great location in Lahaina. Right across the street from great restaurants and entertainment. Our second stay in two months. Such fun to sit on the porch/balcony and watch all the action on the street and Banyan Tree Park!
Awesome location, hub of all the activity on Front Street. Love, love it there. The architecture is soothing, tranquil, The bar and grill has a great menu and has the ambiance of the whaling and old plantation. Large bird cage with a very friendly parrot inhabiting it. I highly recommend even stopping in for a frosty mug beer, better yet a great meal.
This hotel is situated at the port and close to local bars, restaurants and shops. Walking distance from Outlet Mall as well. The restaurant/bar is Ok if you don't want to walk or try the other restaurants. Definitely enjoyed my stay here. The staff are awesome and very helpful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
This hotel, located in downtown Lahaina, adj. the marina and coastline, provided the perfect base to start each day on Maui. Just two blocks from the main highway, it is walking distance to all restaurants, shopping, nightlife , and water excursions. The staff was top notch, knowledgeable regarding the island, helpful in all aspects of local activities, and quick to resolve any issue that would arise during our 5 night stay. All rooms come with outdoor porches and most, but not all, a great view. (HINT: Ask for a room facing the Banyon tree.) The wall mounted AC's in the rooms CAN BE a bit noisy to those use to central air but we got used to it. All in all this hotel was " tailor made " for Lahaina and those who like the small town water front atmosphere if offers, but is also just short drives to most major beaches and resorts.
Such a cute place to stay directly across the harbor. We had a back corner room viewing front street and the Banyan tree. There were a few events going on the weekend we were there and we had a very entertaining view of it all. The room itself was very clean and very cute. It was cozy and had everything we needed. We will definitely be coming back here when we visit Lahaina again.
Best Western Pioneer Inn is a historical property that was the first hotel on Maui. It's in a very central location in the heart of Lahaina, which used to be Hawaii's first capital, prior to Honolulu taking on that mantle. I had done my research and knew that there was no beach access from this property, but we were going to be here on days, such as doing the Road to Hana, when we would not even have time for the beach. In any case, there are many nearby beaches that are spectacular, and you can have a great experience anyway. The check-in was quick and efficient. Be forewarned that there is no elevator, but I still requested a second-floor room, and it was manageable. The room was very clean, and had a strong air conditioner, which is admittedly noisy, but does the job well. The bathroom was also very clean and had good quality toiletries. There was also a great coffee- and tea-maker, which made individual servings Keurig-style. We had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs, and both the service and food were great. You also get a 15% discount as a hotel guest. There is a caged parrot at the restaurant, who became very chatty with me, and the staff told me he must have liked me, as he mostly ignored folks. The parking is complimentary and is a very small block away, it's also very convenient. I never had problem finding a parking spot, especially in the back section of the lot. Make sure your tag is prominently hanging from the mirror. Lots of famous people have stayed at Pioneer Inn - from Frank Sinatra to Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, who are rumored to have started their affair here. If you need to use a computer or a printer, they will provide you access to this very historical part of the hotel. The historic nature is authentic at Pioneer Inn, and is rare to find in other properties. Also, at Pioneer Inn I got a lovely gift from a couple from New York. As they were departed, they gave me their brand beach new chairs with the proviso that I pass them on to someone else with the same proviso to keep passing them on. So we blissfully used those wonderful chairs for many days, and them we gave them to a lady from Chicago with the proviso that she pass them on, and she assured us that she would. So I am hoping that this chain of kindness and generosity that this couple from New York started goes on for a long time. Overall, Pioneer Inn exceeded my expectations, and I would be happy to stay here again, and am glad to recommend it to others.
The hotel was in a fantastic location easily accessible to everything. The staff where friendly and very helpful. Perfect for a couple looking for value for money and who to be in the heart of the place and not the exclusive resort feel. The hotel has real old world charm to it which added to the experience of the stay.
They've done a great job in remodeling the room we stayed in on the second floor! There are no elevators, so pack lightly to make it easier to go up the stairs. Room size was adequate and the bed comfortable. I really loved the toiletries, especially the soap bar! I have skin that tends to get dry and this soap did a good job in providing moisturizers. The outside balcony was very nostalgic and brought back memories of the whaling days. The only downside to the room is the wall air conditioning unit which is very loud. But management is very aware of this and said it was the next thing to do on their renovation list. There is a sundry store on the first floor and has the snacks and refreshments you'll need. There is also a Bar and Grill downstairs with very reasonable prices and we enjoyed the breakfast options they provided. Don't forget to bring the dining discount ticket (15%) you get with your hotel keys. Parking is across the street and not very far. If you need to print out your airline boarding passes, you'll get a secret bonus........a step back in time..............a look at a room that once was shared by several celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn!
In the heart of and a part of the historic Lahaina Wharf area beside the Banyan Court Park, Old Courthouse, Lighthouse and much more. Walking distance to all of the downtown restaurants, art galleries, and other shopping. The Pioneer Inn also has a wonderful bar and restaurant as well as a courtyard with a pool. If you enjoy a unique experience away from the large resorts you should consider a stay at this special hotel.

We are so glad that you appreciate the uniqueness of our historic inn. Please choose to stay with us again soon.
The Pioneer Inn in Laihaina Maui is in a great location and the room was ok and the service in the Hotel was good. The major problem we had was with the very old air con. It was noisey and rattled which made sleeping at night in 30C temps very difficult.. The AC had obviously not been serviced in ages as the filter were blocked up as well. Apart from that problem the hotel is in a great position and the restaurant and the service were excellent. We would stay there agin if they replaced their AC's with modern quiet units.
I stayed at the Pioneer Inn in May this year with my elderly mother & it was the highlight of our Hawaiian holiday. This atmospheric inn is in the best position-between the harbour and the main street. The balcony was stunning, overlooking the busyness of the street, but close the doors & the room was silent. The room and bathroom were fantastic. The courtyard was a lovely haven, there was a brilliant show about Mark Twain in the courtyard when we were there-so enjoyable! The hotel has a bar & grill restaurant which we put to much use. The hotel was the perfect place for us to stay- within walking distance of restaurants, museums & everything else. Katherine on the front desk was delightful- there were no limits on her desire to help in any way she could- what a treasure! Mark too was great, helping with bags up the stairs & generally looking after us. I would recommend the delightful Pioneer Inn to anyone!

Thank you so much for choosing our Inn for your holiday. Please come visit again sometime.
Good location and friendly staff. Check-In and Check-Out easy. Restaurant on property. Shops and restaurants are within easy walking distance on Front Street along the waterfront. Art and craft fair at Banyan Park is right across the street.
We spent 9 days over Christmas 2016 at the Pioneer Inn and were thoroughly delighted with our choice. The property offers simple, traditional charm and comfort without the cost (and admittedly fancier amenities) of the high-end resorts elsewhere on Maui. The rooms are extremely clean and well-kept, and the bed was most comfortable. Also, despite the hotel's age, the bathroom and all fixtures were modern and upgraded. We also valued it's central location in Lahaina that puts you within walking distance of the boat tours, shopping and restaurants the town has to offer. Speaking of restaurants, the Pioneer Grill attached to the hotel is very good and is better priced than similar places around town. Most notable of all (for us, at least) was the consistently wonderful customer service! Every person at the front desk, in the restaurant, or on the grounds was extremely helpful and friendly. A special shout-out to Katherine who went above and beyond to make our visit special and memorable. A few tips: - You can sign out towels and guide books from the front desk. Really helpful information! - The property does not have an elevator to the second floor where the guest rooms are located, so this is likely not a preferable hotel for disabled guests or those who have difficulty with stairs. - Hotel guests get 10% off at the restaurant but you need to get a card/coupon from the front desk each time. - Lock boxes are also available at the front desk. There are no personal safes in the rooms.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and thank you for taking the time to write such an informative review which will be helpful to potential guests. Please visit us again soon.
Off a cruise ship in 2006 I had discovered the Pioneer Inn and was intrigued. A trip back to the islands gave me the opportunity to spend a few days in Lahaina so it was an easy choice of hotels. We were not disappointed. This is a historic hotel, it does not have the modern glass and chrome look nor is it walking distance to the beach. It is simple, basic and quiet. Reservations and check-in were painless and efficient, we were early and we could store our luggage while we wandered town.. The parking lot is not right out front requiring a short walk to your car. There are no elevators, our second floor room required the bag drag up the stairs. Reviews had said that the rooms facing Front Street were noisy so I was a initially a bit dismayed at our end room overlooking the street. We had the bonus of having an extra portion of the ample front porch assigned to the end room with a table and rocking chairs, a great place to enjoy morning coffee and watch the town wake up. Our room seemed to be the only one whose view wasn't hampered by the trees out front and could benefit from the morning sun and had a shady spot. The only noise I noticed was the morning trash removal and even that wasn't a problem. Afternoons and evenings were warm. The room had a ceiling fan and a great air conditioner. Having lived in Hawaii many years ago I know that no place, and especially an older wooden structure, is free from six-legged residents no matter how clean and well kept. We had only one visitor to evict during our stay, they apparently have the bug problems well under control. The Pioneer Inn is highly recommended for a stay in Lahaina. It is close to the restaurants and shops of the town and had the feeling of old Hawaii that you cannot get at the newer resorts.

Mahalo nui loa! Welcome back to Lahaina and thank you for choosing our historic Inn. Glad to hear our pest control is working well, we switched to an organic treatment two years ago and it is much less toxic yet more effective.
Right outta Casa Blanca!! Loved the overhead ceiling fans, lanai with wooden floors and rocking chairs. Across from huge banyan tree with sweetly chirping birds each morning. Fun to watch the comings and goings of boats in the harbor.

Well put. Thank you for choosing to stay with us at our historic Inn,
This quaint, beautiful Inn has comfortable beds, good AC that will keep the rooms cool, and a very helpful & friendly staff. The delightful lady at the check-in desk the evening we checked in was so helpful, she even assisted us with getting a suitcase upstairs for one of us with a physical handicap. The upstairs room was quiet, very clean and could easily be passed off as a wonderful guest room at a friend's house. Located in a central location surrounded by various attractions and sights, local shops and restaurants. Parking was across the street in the parking lot of another business, I think it might have been a library. In June 2017 the building was undergoing some remodeling, and I will be anxious to return and see what the "new and improved" facility looks like.

Thank you for bearing with us during the remodeling. Our goal is not to change the inn but to restore it to like new condition, Hope to see you in the future.
Had a great experience from check in to check out. We only stayed one nite, but would definitely recommend. It's old, but very well cared for. Had breakfast in their restaurant and it was very good. The only downside is there is no elevator,so you have to carry your luggage upstairs. The staff are outstanding including the room attendants.Very helpful and friendly.
We stayed at The Pioneer Inn for the 4th of July...the staff were so helpful and accommodating. The location is awesome...right on the Lahaina Harbor ...which means super easy access to the ferry to Lana'i, snorkel, fishing, and diving trips; walking distance to dozens of shops, restaurants and other activities including the historic banyan tree that covers an entire town block.
If you want to step back in time to old Hawaii this is the place. The oldest hotel on all the islands is a wonderful gem. Great downtown Lahaina location. Free close parking. Wonderful lanais with rocking chairs. Not a luxury resort atmosphere but a charming place for a night or two stay. Rooms are smallish but well appointed. Great beds and air conditioning. The service is impeccable. Patti was so nice when we checked in. The only drawback as it is a historic building there is no elevator.
We found you in our room How'd you wind up there? You are a mystery Little black curly hair Little black curly hair Little black little black little black little black little black curly hair..... Actually, there was more than one, and we are nice people who are all down for company, but when there's no body attached to the hair it's game over. Very gross. The air conditioning saves the day with 2 stars.

First let me compliment you on a very clever review. Now please let me apologize that your room was not cleaned to our normal quality standards. We take pride in our staff for good service and cleanliness and we obviously fell down during your stay.
If you like the ocean and love fish then this is the place to stay. It's a short walk to everything in the Lahaina town. We were pleasantly surprised and will return for another "staycation" the next time we want to stay on the Westside. Much better value than the resorts, unless you are looking for upscale features.
The historic Pioneer Inn is this best boutique hotel to stay for locals and for visitors alike. Comfortable, affordable, classic hotel, with lovely ambiance, friendly staff, lovely pool, great restaurant and bar, and close to all that Lahaina has to offer. A Lahaina classic that is the best boutique hotel on Maui! You'll have a a true
For the room size and location the Pioneer Inn is priced very well. It's located in the perfect location. Friendly staff and an 'old school' Lahaina vibe that you won't get at the bland, FL-style resorts up the road......If you're visiting Hawai'i....do it right!

We love the Pioneer Inn and its location at the edge of Lahaina's onetime whaling harbor. What it may lack in modern conveniences, it makes up with its historic charm. Get a room overlooking the Banyan tree! We begin all our visits to Maui with a few days here.

Although you rated us low, you seemed to enjoy your stay with us. If there is anything we can do to improve for your next visit, please let us know.
Nice mid-town location next to marina, historic Maui sites local shopping and an icredible Banyan tree across the street. The BW restaurant and lounge served great meals in a relaxing, covered open air environment.
Great Check in staff, restaurant downstairs has fabulous breakfast. Great Moco Loco. Room very clean, lanai was cute with white rocking chairs to enjoy morning coffee. No frills Hotel, but very well maintained and cute.
This hotel is right in the middle of Lahaina on the island of Maui. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The rooms were clean and very comfortable and the food in the restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. My dad loved the cooked breakfast every morning! Plus as a resident you get a discount in the restaurant at every meal!!! We will definitely come back to this hotel the next time we are on Maui!!!
Nice place conveniently located by all sorts of activities, restaurants and shops you name it ( you can walk to many of them). Great location right there on the water no fees for parking and no hidden fees for staying there a good room for a good price. Staff seems to love their job and they appear to go above and beyond of what is expected from them very friendly very hard-working. They have a very cute parrot by the name of Alex who was super friendly talks and makes your experience there more enjoyable!
Good location and friendly staff. The decor is dated but overall comfortable and the room/bathroom was clean. Hotel services were good (Internet and hotel restaurant). The A/C unit wa very loud, but in good working order. Parking is about a block away (off site), but you can unload/load in front of the hotel. I had no security issues re parking - you must removal all valuables. Overall, a decent place considering the rate and location.
This beautiful old hotel located on the water is a treasure. The staff are friendly and helpfull at all times and the property is located close to everything important in Lahaina. Whilst it is not a modern five star hotel it is full of character and history yet comfortable.
This hotel was a great place to stay in Lahaina. Great location to everything I wanted to do. Room was clean, had everything I needed including a dorm fridge. Banyan tree and ocean were the views from the lanai. Had to walk 300' to get on the boat. Hardly needed my car but the lot that I parked in for free was never full and a very short distance from the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Plan to stay there next time I go.
This was such a fun hotel to stay in! SO much history in this little town and the Pioneer Inn is a big part of it. The room was great and clean, the lady at the front desk was super nice and helpful, and it is right in the heart of downtown Lahaina. It is walking distance to practically everything you would want to see there. Definitely would stay again.

We are very glad you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to Lahaina.
There were many positives to staying here: the location can't be beat, it has amazing friendly staff, and the rooms are clean and functional. It is important to keep in mind that this hotel is very old and shows it's age, and some might not enjoy it simply because of this. For example, the air conditioner is a window unit that is quite loud, they are always repainting, and I'm pretty sure the furniture and carpet is as old as the building itself. BUT once you get over the general old-ness, I'm sure you will love it as much as we did. It has everything you need for a great holiday and I would return in a heartbeat. Also the historical factor of the hotel is pretty cool.
Be aware when you book and who you are booking with. I booked with Expedia months before the stay. The airline cancelled our flight the day we were supposed to depart. We IMMEDIATELY called the Pioneer Inn AND Expedia to make aware that our flight was delayed one night. "NO PROBLEM." We talked to the Clerks at the Pioneer Inn and we were told we would have to deal with Expedia. Called Expedia, after we got home, gave them the itinerary number and were told we would have to deal with Hotels.com. Called them and was told to deal with Expedia. Finally got someone that ALMOST spoke English and explained problem. Was told it would be looked into and we would be notified. Week later, same story, three weeks later same story and on and on. This started in January and still no refund. Be careful who you book with!!!!
This inn was my favorite in all of Hawaii. The beds were most comfortable with the softest sheets ever. Our two rooms overlooked front street and I enjoyed rocking on the lanai, watching the activity on the street. There is a lot of history connected with this inn. Be sure to read all about it. The courtyard is a pleasant location to read or have a snack. There is a mailbox nailed to a tree stump in the courtyard and I especially liked reading the story about this.
Affordable hotel in downtown area of Lahaina, within walking distance of beach, sites, shopping, and restaurants (their restaurant was very good - good happy hour too!) The only downside was parking away from the hotel.
What a charming experience! We had arranged for 5 nights at a resort villa, but wanted to extend our stay in Maui for a full week. We researched local hotels in the Lahaina area, and came across the historic Pioneer Inn, located near the marina and only blocks from the downtown core. The architectural style of the building, the adjoining balconies with wooden rocking chairs that overlooked the interior pool and garden seating area, the gazebo, and all the historic touches were all terrific. The attached restaurant and bar serve delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very friendly staff. Not as "FANCY" as the resorts, but more "OLD SCHOOL" hotel vacationing and a lot of fun!

Thank you for choosing to spend part of your Maui holiday with us. You describe perfectly what we strive for comfort, good food and friendly service. Come see us again.
This isn't a beach resort but more a place to sleep in the middle of a cute town to use as a base for excursions. The hotel is historic but it rooms are modern with nice facilities. There is no elevator and you have to climb one flight of stairs to the room but I expected this from reviews and it wasn't a big deal for me. The lanai over looking Front Street was a nice touch and I was able to see the sunrise over the mountains. Breakfast was good and inexpensive, you get a 15% coupon as a guest for the restaurant. Parking is free as well and is about a block away. Overall was exactly what I needed as a base for exploring Maui

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially the lanai overlooking Front Street, and the inn's location by the marina & Banyan tree. The restaurant & bar had a nice happy hour and menu, and we loved a wonderful fish dinner one evening. We'll stay again for sure!!
Went to Maui and stayed at the historic Best Western Pioneer Inn. Katherine checked us in and it was the great start to a great stay. Katherine explained everything [history, rustic nature of the building, free parking, dining, and happy hour] as we checked in. We really enjoyed the location of the room with a balcony overlooking Front St. Waling distance to dining and shopping. Remote control air conditioning!!! All rooms are on the second floor so be prepared to carry you bags up 19 steps. Not a problem for us. The Happy Hour at the hotel is one of the best in the area. Pint size Mai Tais for $4. Our most memorable experience at the hotel was Katherine. We will be back just to visit with her again. Thanks for a great stay.

Thank you so much for letting us know you enjoyed your stay. We agree that Katherine is a wonderful ambassador for our historic Inn.
Right in the heart of historic Lahaina it is a great location with a lot of restaurants and shop. Easy access to activities.. as the harbor is right across the street. Right next-door to the famous Banyan tree that takes up a whole block. Parking is provided across the street behind the Baldwin House Muesum! Pretty easy access to anything. You would want to do in Lahaina!!! Will definitely come back!! Front desk staff weee very helpful!! Love the African grey parrot! Said hello every morning when. You walked by his cage!!
hulagirl1, Owner at Best Western Pioneer Inn, responded to this review
Mahalo for choosing to stay with us and so glad you liked our African Grey Alex. Please come visit again soon.
We needed a one night stay in Lahaina before we spent the next three weeks in a condo. It was very clean and comfortable small but adequate. It is a old hotel so you have to drag your bags up to the second floor. Staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant for breakfast was good. We would stay again if we needed a one night stay.
We love the old time charm of this Hotel. It has a restaurant and a bar that were a lot of fun. Everything you could want is in walking distance. The grounds are kept nice and clean. Staff is very helpful.
I'm a resort girl but decided to "rough it" at a Best Western. Thank heavens I did! This quaint, historical hotel is literally a gecko jump from the Lahina Harbor. The cruise ships and day excursions are out the front doors of Pioneer Inn. All of downtown Lahina is right there and you can walk to everything. Parking and WiFi are free and there is no resort fee. The pool is fine in a backyard, peaceful sense. My only issue was with housekeeping. They made our bed 3 times during our 7 night stay and we had to ask for toilet paper and shampoo. This was only an irritant easily overcome with the abundance of other positives. The restaurant is good and reasonable but our favorite place for breakfast was the Sunrise Cafe located one block west of the hotel in an alley next to the library, on the same side of the street as the hotel. We went there 4 mornings for breakfast. I like the luxury of a resort but this experience left us feeling at one with the culture of Hawaii. The Pioneer Inn was absolute relaxation, a slow pace and no lines or resort rat race. The rooms are clean upon arrival and will have a full clean if you request it. Overall, an excellent place full of character and peaceful calm.
If you want to be steps away from restaurants, bars, shopping this is an excellent spot, there's a beach 10-15 min walk either way as well. If you want peace and quiet don't stay here as you get the chance to be right in the middle of the heart of Lahaina. Great patio deck from your room where you can listen to excellent live music across the street and look out at the Banyan tree. Nice high ceiling rooms that are very clean. My only 2 complaints are the loud old AC units and the blinding bathroom lights. Staff are excellent, efficient and friendly.
Just back, and we can say we had a very wonderful stay at the Pioneer Inn. It is not a billion dollar resort that we typically stay, but it is a wonderfuly maintained hotel. The room was clean, and the bed very comfortable. We were located on the back side, in room 28, Overlooking the pool. The ambience the Pioneer offers, is not easily found . The staff , are the best and make you feel very welcome. The onsite restaurant /bar serves up great food and drinks at the most reasonable prices you will find on the island. The location is so convenient, being right across the street from the wharf were many of the excursions depart and return. Stores, restaurants, and bars are located within an easy walk. The manager (Mark) is very personable, and will assist you with anything you may need . I can say , that we will return to the Pioneer, and hope that you will enjoy it as much as we did.
I already explained noise problem on previous page. It was very close to a fist fight with the next door tourist. Please refer back to my description on the previous page of this review. At the very least, fix all front and back doors to avoid slamming and loud noise. As well as the chairs on the lanai.
My husband and I stayed 1 week at the Pioneer Inn. We went to Maui to celebrate my birthday. We decided to stay at the Pioneer Inn because it was small and not one of the big resort hotels which we would not have liked. I read all the Trip Advisor reviews and called to make the reservations. The woman was very helpful and at that time we decided to add the breakfast option to our booking. We are so glad that we did. The restaurant served great food, and we were given vouchers for each morning of our stay. We could order anything on the menu (excluding alcoholic beverages which weren't covered.) The restaurant had a resident bird named Alex who talked to everyone and enthralled the children. Our room was very nice, had A/C and a fan, a bathtub/shower, very comfortable bed, and the highlight was the balcony w/ rocking Adirondack chairs and a table. We spent lots of afternoons on the balcony which overlooked Banyan Tree Park with Front Street to the left and the Wharf to the right. The hotel has a pool, and there are shops on the ground floor which was very convenient. Samantha at the front desk was so very helpful to us. She even gave me a card from the staff on my birthday. Parking is a short walk away, but we mostly left the rental car in the lot and walked. Whenever we took the car out and returned, there was always a parking spot available. The Pioneer Inn is a Best Western, and we highly recommend it and hope to return someday.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and let us be a part of your birthday celebration. Wishing you many happy birthdays in the future..
We encountered some travel difficulties prior to arriving and the staff went out of their way to accommodate us and make us feel welcome and cared for, far exceeding my expectations! Location is excellent - easy to walk to everything in Lahaina or to catch ferry to Lanai.
This place and staff were excellent. The building reeked of history and nostalgia. Food was very good and service was excellent. Front office staff was helpful at every turn. They even provided computer accommodations for us to print our airplane boarding passes upon departure. We had a wonderful balcony overlooking the street life and shops. Well within walking distance of anything you might want to accomplish on the island. Can't say enough.
If you love history, you will love this hotel location. What a cute little hotel right in the middle of town, walking distance to shops, restaurants and to all the historical buildings like the Baldwin House, The Banyan Tree, Court House, etc. The only thing I dislike about this hotel was their lighting. Every light in the hotel room was fluorescent. Otherwise it is a great rustic hotel with a beautiful courtyard.
I grew up in Wailuku nearly 70 years ago and have not had the opportunity to stay at the Pioneer Inn. However, I was pleasantly surprised on this trip, with the hotel property, the staff, and adjoining restaurant. I would definitely recommend others to stay here and I would consider staying here again when the opportunity arises.

Thank you so much for joining us at our historic Inn. So glad you enjoyed our new menu items.
Stayed overnight as we were taking in the Hawaii Tasting Tour and did not want to drive on the same evening. The hotel is a charming, historic gem with great view of Lahaina evening life. Only, yet very significant issue, was trying to sleep with the LOUD music from a neighboring establishment. I tossed and turned until the 1 PM curfew- thank goodness for that. If you can put up with that- then a very nice experience.
hulagirl1, Owner at BEST WESTERN Pioneer Inn, responded to this review
We are so sorry the music from a neighboring restaurant disturbed your sleep. We do try to work with our neighbors to keep the noise level down but we weren't very successful the night you stayed with us. I apologize for that. Next time you might request a courtyard room which is away from the music and quiet.
This is a beautiful old building with lots of history, right in the middle of the warf area. All the food and shopping a tourist could want. With the added bonus of the Harbor at the front door. All the water activities that Maui has to offer right there, just a few steps away. Whale watching, scuba, snorkeling, sight seeing, surfing, SUP. You name it. Would recommend to anyone looking to explore Lahaina.
The hotel has an awesome location if you are staying in Lahaina. The staff at the front desk and the housekeepers were helpful and warm. We enjoyed the restaurant for breakfast and the discount coupon given at check in was a pleasant surprise. While in Lahaina we walked everywhere because the hotels location is great. My husband went stand up paddle boarding in the morning and it was right behind of the hotel. We enjoyed our island getaway. Mahalo!

Mahalia nui loa for choosing to stay at our historic Inn. Please come back soon.
I already reviewed in my comments. Bottom line, I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends unless of course they are Four Seasons types :-)) This is not a 5 star hotel, so if that's what you are looking for, this is not it. However, if you like quaint, clean, safe, and a staff who make you feel welcome and part of their 'ohana, give this hotel a try. I travel frequently for business, and this is the only time I felt so relaxed and actually enjoyed my business trip thanks to location and staff.
Had a late flight out of Maui and wasn't able to extend our condo stay any further, so ended up booking a night at Pioneer Inn. Even though check in wasn't until 3, they were willing to hold our bags and expedoted getting our room ready and called us as soon as available. Convenient location, free parking, pool, and a place to be our home base for our last afternoon/evening in Maui.
Have stayed at this property a few times and service has always been great front desk staff excellent keep up the great work. Thanks Amanda and Samantha on the great service. Value great as are the overall staff, thanks.
Love this place!!! Best hotel in town!!! Service is great. People are friendly and nice! Rooms are clean and comfortable! Love sitting outside! We always come back here for our anniversary! Christina and John 11/11/11
Totally enjoyed our stay here. The rooms are pleasant and have a balcony with rockers to sit and enjoy after a day of beaching. Lahaina is alive and well and totally fun. You can hear the people enjoying themselves at the restaurants across the street but we had no trouble sleeping. The banyan tree across the street is alive with birds and there is a pleasant pool area to sit or in the courtyard You must remember this hotel was built in 1901 so no elevator. A fun vibe is felt. Not for everyone but I would not hesitate to stay here in the future
The property is great, with that historical and Hawaiian flavor that one looks for but that is not so easy to find. I think the hotel is beautiful, very well located, just in front of the Lahaina harbor and very close to the bayan tree park. One can hear the 1000 birds singing in the early morning and late evening. The rooms are very comfortable, furnished in a classic colonial style. The balconies are beautiful, one can just reach the plumaria trees from the balconies. They have white rocking chairs in the balconies, matching the style of the property. The inner garden is beautiful, and the pool just right. The place is busy but quiet, very well isolated from the street noise. For me this place is special, with real flavor, very different from a fancy stylish hotel with no personality which you can find anywhere. This is just different and perfect if you want to experience the real Hawaii. The property staff are really friendly and sweet. I could not ask for more!!!!!!!!!! And Lahaina is just beautiful!
We stayed 3 nights here while in Maui for my husbands birthday. It was an older hotel/motel right by the fishing pier. The room was typical motel style but with a great porch/lani. We awoke early and sat out on the deck and watched the fishing boats depart. Loved it!!!! Restaurant was great and parrot was good company for breakfast. Would most definitely stay here again.
Beautiful older building on the marina. We sat outside and drank coffee in the morning overlooking corpus ft the park. Free parking and really nice indoor and outdoor restaurant. Traditional Hawaiian food. Tons of shopping nearby.
Stayed here first time about 1981, price was $35 per nite and well worth it. Now at $175 it looks a whole lot worse. Lanai paint peeling badly. This property is now a big hotel chain, that put off the maintenance. Don't stay in room 17, the garbage man lifts the whole rubbish bin level with and inches from your lanai. Stay on the road side if you have too stay here, more comfortable chairs. Me I saw a place on Lanhainalua rd cheaper and nicer. I won't stay here again.
What a pleasant surprise! Located right in Lahaina, able to walk to all the local sites and restaurants. Lovely old historical building, well maintained. Room was spacious and we enjoyed eating our breakfast on the lanai. Service was exceptional, including free use of beach towels on the days we went to the beach. Only downsides, and these are minor: 1) no in room microwave, which would have been nice since no free breakfast is offered; 2) being an old building, no elevator; no problem for us but could be for some people, although I am sure the staff would help people carry their luggage upstairs; 3) parking is not on site, but not too far away and it is free unlike some Hawaii hotels, and we were always able to pull right up to the entrance to load and unload. Overall, we were very glad we stayed here vs one of the resorts in Kaanapali.
First time in Lahaina, could not have stayed in a better place. Greeted by Katherine late evening after a long flight from the UK. Informed us on practicalities of the Inn gave us our 15% discount card for breakfast and kindly took one of our cases up to the room as there is no lift and I have the use of a stick. Choice of breakfast is amazing with constant refills of coffee for just $2. Rooms are very clean beds comfortable AC is noisy but never really bothered us with a huge verandah to sit out on. We had room 24 which overlooked the pool so very quiet through the day/evening.The Inn was built in 1901 so much history, which you don't get in today's hotels a real treat for our holiday, backs onto the harbour were most tours depart from. Happy hour is 3pm -6pm which we can recommend compared to others. Staff brilliant so friendly helpful and welcoming. Hope to return to Lahaina and the Pioneer very soon. Well done to all!
We wanted an inexpensive, "non-Resort" Hotel in the City of Lahaina for the night before checking into a Resort Hotel on Kaanapali Beach. The Pioneer Inn was a great combination of excellent value, gracious service, convenient on-premises restaurant for dinner and breakfast and a great mattress. We couldn't have asked for more, as it was just what we were hoping for. The staff was extremely helpful to us, especially with getting our suitcases to the second floor. Air Conditioning was invaluable, along with a ceiling fan, and made the value even greater. Recommended without hesitation for all, unless an elevator is necessary - there is none. The attached restaurant/lounge was perfect for convenience and fine food. We even got to enjoy hearing a native "talk story" and play guitar while we were dining.
We stayed 5 nights here and can not say enough about how great the experience was. FREE PARKING close by, immediate access to shops and activities, a wonderful restaurant with a terrific happy hour, a resident talking parrot, a private, peaceful pool, and a nice room with an outside deck looking out on the ocean. All of this for a very reasonable price. I feared it might be noisy, since it's right in the middle of the city, but we slept like the dead. It was fun waking up with the town and going downstairs for breakfast with Alex, the parrot. The front desk and bell service were friendly and attentive and the building is full of charm and history. The rooms are on the second floor (no elevator) and you actually are above businesses downstairs, but we never heard a thing. The front desk even delayed a routine fumigation of our room due to my pulmonary issues. We will come Back! Just a wonderful experience.
We booked via Booking.com and were confirmed a deluxe/king room. However, when we checked-in we were offered a standard queen, due to a booking error. As compensation we were offered the difference in price back, plus free a la-carte breakfast for 2. A more than fair deal. Very quaint hotel. Better place to be than the many non-discript concrete boxes up and down the coast. Ideal for day tripping and evenings/nightlife, but if you want to be on the beach, not for you.
Nice location for stores and food. Noisy AC unit and housekeeping missed 2 out of 7 days, while I was out of the room for 6-7hrs. xkrlclryzsktcg ultdrsskfhgidrfx.h/khftgxfhgcfzmgvjgcfh,xjvk.hv.k cgcx, gchfxh, cvhkcgh,x,hgjvghxh, cvj.v jkkjgcg j.ch,fxhch,fz,xf
My room location was overlooking the court yard area. The room was quiet, clean, comfortable, & a great value for your $$$. From the time I checked in to the time I checked out all of the staff were very friendly & very helpful with any questions about the area.
Chose room with pool/courtyard view. It was very quiet. It is a bit of a challenge to take your luggage up the stairs, although we were offered assistance and declined. All rooms are on the second floor, shops and restaurant on the first floor. Parking for check in is on the wharf side. They give you a parking pass for a lot that is one block away. The pool was nice and surrounded with gardens. Not the big resort type, seemed like we were in the past, which is what we wanted. Room was large enough, bathroom a bit small. Lanai was nice, had coffee (Kurig) there each morning (real mugs and classes, not paper or plastic). There is a shelf under the mirror with good lighting in the bedroom for doing makeup and hair. Closet was small, and a bit difficult to hang clothes, my only complaint. They gave us a discount for the restaurant. Location could not be better. You can walk to the Old Lahaina Luau. Spent 3 nights and did not have to use the car. The wharf is currently under reconstruction and will be a nice addition to that area that is the front of the hotel. The most important thing, is no resort or parking fees. I hate resort fees, parking fees I can understand. Resort fees, in my opinion are false advertising. So happy this Best Western has not gone there.
Perfect location right on front street. The staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, and the AC worked great. The inner courtyard was very nice and the shaded patios were nice to relax. There are tons of shops all within walking distance and luaus or sunset cruises nearby.
Last min check in. Staff was super helpful and very accommodating. Property is in a prime location. Right on the main strip. If you are planning on fishing, this is were to stay. Hotel is located right across the street! Makes the 4am fishing trip a lot easier. ;) plus an grocery story and ABC right there. The pub offers a discount for guests. Say hi to Alex the parrot. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Pool is small but beautiful. Cool history with this hotel being the first. Definite recommend.
Been travelling with a friend for a couple of weeks across all the islands in Hawaii, the Pioneer Inn looked perfect in all the reviews and was within our pretty tight budget... We arrived and it couldn't have been better suited to what we needed! The location in Lahaina was right at the beginning of Front St, loads of little shops and restaurants within walking distance; it was perfect for what we wanted. Hotel was clean and the rooms are a good size, we hired a car at the last minute and the Inn was fine with organising free parking for us. Thanks Pioneer for making our Maui stop even better!!
The Best Western Pioneer Inn is a historic hotel in the middle of LaHaina's historic district on Maui. It is right on the waterfront, the site to view gorgeous sunsets over the ocean. Across the street is the largest banyan tree in the world (takes up a whole city block) and everything that's happening in town is within a few blocks. LaHaina was the seat of the first kingdom of Hawaii and a major whaling center and seaport in the 19th century. The Pioneer Inn was built in 1901 when that history was still being made. Now it is a quiet, comfortable, old fashioned hotel. The rooms probably look like they did when the hotel was new, except that they have air conditioning, up to date bathrooms, and comfortable beds. So, comfort, location and history--what's not to like!
Spent 5 wonderful days at the Pioneer Inn. Great place. Loved the rooms and the outside deck, comfortable beds, coffee maker, great location and friendly staff. Walking distance to everything. Would definitely stay here again when visiting Maui.
Our accommodations were quiet and comfortable even while we were located in Lahaina's historical and prime happening area of the warf and within walking distance of everything, shops, happenings, and restaurants.
This is a great hotel to stay at for a couple of nights to access the boat trips leaving from Lahaina or if you want to explore Lahaina for a couple of days. The hotel is right across the street from the entrance to the boat dock. We took the ferry to Molokai, so stayed at the Pioneer Inn the night before the ferry ride, as well as the night we returned to Maui. The location of the hotel couldn't have been more perfect - we had to be at the ferry at 6:30 a.m. and all we had to do was walk out the front doors of the Pioneer Inn and across the street - about 50 feet, which was great because we were loaded down with all our luggage plus several bags of groceries for our stay on Molokai. The day trips to Lanaii, Molokini & Molokai leave from here, as well, so very convenient. The hotel itself is historical so it has lots of character. The room was on par with Best Western standards, so it was very clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable, there was air conditioning so we could recover from the humidity, a fridge, a wonderful, large lanai (deck) that we could sit on and enjoy listening to all the birds in the large trees on the property, as well as watching the sun setting on the ocean, as it peeked through the trees. We didn't hear any noise from outside, the room was very quiet even though there were several other people staying on the second floor. The hotel is also only a block away from the stores on the main street of Lahaina, as well as the humongous banyan tree in the park. Restaurants, including the amazing Pacific O, are within an easy 5-minute walk. The Old Lahaina Luau is a few blocks away, as well (best luau on Maui). The staff were all very friendly and helpful - the best front desk staff we encountered anywhere in Hawaii! They allowed us to pay a small fee to park our rental car for several nights while we traveled by ferry to Molokai. The car was safe and sound when we returned. Parking is off site, but it's just down the street and we didn't have any problems parking there. We were able to drive the car up to the front doors of the hotel to unload/load our luggage. We didn't eat in the restaurant/bar but it looked like it would have been a fun experience - sitting by the open windows and looking out at the dock/water. There isn't an elevator, as far as I know, so it could be a bit of a struggle (for some people) getting all the luggage up and down the stairs.
Only spent one night here, so not a lot to report other than it was perfect for what we wanted. Charming historic space which might be a bit small for some but was fine by us. Wall-mounted AC units run loud if that's a problem for you, but ours was very efficient at keeping the room cool on a hot afternoon, and if anything it drowned out the massive number of birds in the banyan tree and the noise from the nearby bars. As far as location, you can't do better - it's directly on Front Street and perfect for strolling along, catching the sunset, and grabbing a cocktail or two to ease into the evening. One note for anyone elderly/disabled - the rooms are most if not all second floor, with no elevator to get yourself or luggage upstairs. Their main parking lot is also about a block and a half away. I'm not sure of the distance to their backup lot if no parking is available in the main one.
I had a 2 hour wait for a ferry to Lanai and was lucky enough to have a window table at the Pioneer Inn. Great spot to watch the activity at Lahaina Harbor. Historic property, great service, great food and best of all, affordable prices! I would definitely consider this an overnight hotel option in the future.
We book here every time we go to Maui for business and pleasure for the cleanliness of the rooms, friendly staff, and the great location! We also started booking our children here when they come for the weekend with friends. Easy transactions, friendly and kind each time they come!! They like how close it is to Lahaina Harbor, Front Street-night life as well so they don't need to drive...Close to beach as well. Highly recommended to all of our friends and family.... Thank you!!
We had eaten breakfast at Pioneer Inn numerous times on visits to the area. Decided to stay at this hotel two nights before moving north to the beach. Could use a little sprucing up but was clean and oh so convenient to everything downtown Lahaina. If you want to be in the heart of old town, this is the ticket. We had a corner room with wrap around balcony overlooking Front Street and Banyan Court. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We did not use the pool but that area was quiet and clean. The restaurant has an amazing breakfast and is a great place to enjoy the late afternoon sipping a Mai Tai. The experience was enjoyable and different from the typical hotel or condo stay.
Loved it! We live on Maui. 40 years! This is a classic location unbeatable by any means. Everyone should stay here. We happen to love Lahaina Harbor and all that Lahaina has to offer. We'll be back again! Mahalo for the incredible memories!
You don't have to be a local history buff to enjoy a stay in the only hotel listed in Lahaina Historic District. An amazing place! This year we got a call from the Pioneer Inn staff the day before we arrived asking whether we preferred Front Street or banyan tree facing rooms. (When you make reservations, it's best to specify at that time which street side you prefer, or courtyard facing away from streets.) We decided on banyan facing at the top of the first set of stairs. (No elevator.) I was a little concerned about being close to the kitchen and/or loud music/noise from bar but no such problems. Live music two nights ended at 9 pm. Most rooms are small. There is a mini-fridge but no microwave. Limited closet space but lots of dresser space. Virtually no shelf/storage space in bathroom but shelves in room outside are close at hand. Several outlets for chargers, etc. Small room air conditioner mounted above window. Each room has a large lanai with table and chairs, nice for early morning coffee. Harbor/boat crews and early tours arrive. The birds in the banyan tree wake up and make quite a racket before all fly away who knows where till evening. Sun comes up over Pali. We also enjoyed take-out dinners on the lanai. The Pioneer Inn bar/restaurant comes in handy when too tired to travel out for happy hour (parents) and the occasional extra meal (kids). We greatly appreciate the 15% discount guests receive, it's not automatic, you'll need a card to hand to the waiter, you can get one at the front desk for asking. Staff is helpful and accommodating of our needs and schedule. Ice, soda machine, pool. Even if it weren't in Lahaina, this hotel has the things our family most needs in a place to stay, and at a reasonable price. There is an oceanside public park walking distance just past the harbor if kids want to play in the ocean rather than the hotel pool. A steady stream of visitors to Lahaina comes around to the Pioneer Inn front porch facing the ocean to take a photo with the carved sea captain. Rooms don't face the ocean on the west, so you'll have to go out to the front of the hotel to catch the amazing sunsets. Front Street Lahaina is risking (in my mind at least) turning into another oldtown re-filled with the same sorts of galleries, restaurants, boutiques, souvenir shops etc. found around the world in beautiful tropic settings. But the Pioneer Inn and its immediate neighborhood seems a little insulated from this with the public library, the Baldwin House, the Banyan Tree/Courthouse Park, and the harbor on four sides.
Great location. My room on the secondfloor facing teh courtyard was quiet. No street noise. Very clean room. I liked the balcony off my room. Excellent front desk help. Katherine was especially helpful with my packages. Good bar/ pub for breakfast and lunch. Say hello to the parrot.
Great little place right in the middle of Lahaina, within walking distance from everywhere. Right in front of Lahaina Harbor easy access sea excursions... Very clean and cozy. The staff was awesome, we will definitely return...
This spot is pretty awesome! Just a hop skip & a jump across from the banyan tree! It's situated right in the heart of Lahaina. My husby & I picked this island for our honeymoon after doing some island hopping to visit Ohana that week, we chose this as our grand finale Aina! Best Western is not a 5 star hotel but I like it to lay my head comfy & cozy with the man of my heart! We thoroughly enjoyed it! We can just walk to all the shops in the downtown area with the island's cool kissing trade winds?? ###DON'T MISS OUT ON THE EARTH'S BEAT SHAVE ICE AT ULULANI'S also located within walking distance. ??????
My husband and I stayed at Pioneer Inn and had an amazing time! The hotel is over 100 years old which gives it a charm of it's own. The room was clean and comfortable and we loved the balcony. We even had a little view of the ocean. We also enjoyed the Keurig Coffee machine and mini fridge. We are not fancy people so if you are looking for fancy... This is probably not the hotel for you. We loved being in the heart of Lahaina and walking nightly around the town. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have the Road to Hana CD you can borrow as well as other books about Maui. We look forward to coming back to the Pioneer Inn for its comfort and amazing location.
This hotel is awesome I will always stay here when I come to Maui. It is a very clean hotel. The staff is awesome. You are at home when you stay here. It is very central to everything. If you love shopping you will love it here.
First of all, this is not a resort, and as such you won't get the resort experience. If you want that, go stay up in Kaanapali on the beach. We stayed in this famous heritage historic inn for convenience. We weren't keen on getting a hire car so staying in the heart of Lahaina where everything is appealed to us. The rooms are old school Hawaii of yesteryear, we loved them. The air conditioning wasnt great and the ceiling fans are on all the time. The location could be a little noisy at times being right in the thick of everything, but you won't have any problem sleeping, the beds are so comfy! Lahaina is warmer than Kaanapali, and it was hot whilst we were there. The hotel is right on the wharf, so a great location for taking a cruise. Easy walking distance to all the maui outlets too! All the restaurants are right around the corner, you can walk everywhere. The Restaurant downstairs was great for breakfast and well priced, with their resident parrot, cheeky bird! I would highly recommend this location to couples, perhaps not to families. Not a honey moon hotel, but a great one for staying in for convenience and as a base for your tours. We loved their lovely little swimming pol, great for a night time swim! Great value and great location!
Very nice location. Historical hotel. Nice relaxation area and some activities took place at the hotel (hula and ukulele classes) Air conditioning was very loud. Sometimes internet connection was breaking.
Cute hotel, BUT the only computer for guests is so old that Hawaiian airlines website cannot be accessed from it! Location was great. Nice balcony but light on it didn't work. Nice in room coffee and tea selection. No elevator so if stairs are an issue you may have a problem
Just the loveliest quirky little hotel in an amazing location. Right in town and opposite where all the boat trips are. A perfect sunset view! 15% of food in the grill and a great pool. The staff were lovely and we would highly recommend visiting the bar for happy hour. We were in room 50 which was lovely and clean and had a great view from the little balcony. Thank you for such a great time on our honeymoon!
We stayed at the pioneer in for one night before our week long condominium vacation. It is ideally located, Quaint and clean. The balcony I had faced the mainstream and was very roomy. The rooms have a refrigerator and air-conditioning. We enjoyed our stay there and would go back. The price was reasonable for the island.
My 15yr old daughter and I had a two night stay at this hotel. The location is prime, located at the dock for all major boating excursions, however, parking is challenging at times. There is a public lot with limited space a block away that is used for guests and tourists alike. The hotel itself is dated, but adds to the general ambiance. The rooms are reasonable and satisfactorily maintained. Having a porch outside each room is a nice touch, but the location of your room will either offer you a view of the pool/courtyard or Front St., which has all the merchants and restaurants, or a view of the Banyan tree park. The air conditioners work well, but they are window units that are a bit noisy. The room was somewhat small, but sufficient and clean. The single serve Keurig was nice in the morning. The pool was clean and refreshing to use in the late afternoon. If you want a pool/beach towel, you need to check it out and sign for it at the front desk... but I was informed by a front desk clerk that hanging my towel over the patio railing was not acceptable, I was phoned in my room and told to remove it, all the while a fellow guest two doors down had their towels draped over the railing for the remainder of the time I was there. Somehow I got singled out, by a policy that isn't consistently enforced or makes any sense in the first place! We had breakfast twice at the restaurant that is attached to the hotel. The food was reasonable and a 15% discount is offered for each meal for being a guest at the hotel. There was a happy hour that seemed to draw a decent crowd and had a guy playing the guitar. The staff we interacted with at the hotel and restaurant were a mix, from pleasant to indifferent. One server was awesome one morning, the next one, not so much. All in all, an acceptable stay, but only gets an average review, as I have stayed at other Best Western properties with better experiences. The fact that you are in Maui next to the water helps make this acceptable, but there could be room for improvement in some areas. I would consider a future stay here, but would also view comparable hotels.
I stayed in this hotel for 1 week for a vacation. This hotel is old...even has no elevator. So, be prepared to life your heavy suitcase to 2nd floor. Room is clean. Air Con is noisy. I'm lucky to get a room face to garden instead of to street. Locations is the advantage of this hotel. Right next to boat deck. Has a lot of restaurants around, including bars. Parking is 1 block away and sometimes it is challenge to find a parking lot at peak time. Staffs of hotel are very helpful and nice. Considering its location, price, and service, I will give it another try if I visit Maui again.
Staying in downtown Lahaina, at the iconic Pioneer Inn was our dream. Stayed 3 nights after our 7 night time share stay in Kaanapali. It was everything we expected and more. Balcony was amazing for people watching, all staff was great. They have the best restaurant and bar. prices are so reasonable. The resort life has it's perks, but this topped off the trip. Only complaint and it is not relevant is the bathroom has no sink or shelve space (got over it) (the floor was clean)
Stopped in for a quick bite and beer and was greeted to a cool drink of water and menus. We had a couple of beers and fish tacos. This is now on my return list. The tacos were delicious and the beer was ice cold. Great combination! Sit right across from the bay and lots of scenery and great company.
Located right in the harbor so I easily walked to dive boat daily plus right On Front street where all the stores, restaurants Ect are. You couldn't ask for a better location if you don't won't to rent a car. Rooms are very clean and very quaint. Nothing fancy but nice. Staff are kind and helpful and eager to serve! If I go back to Maui I'd stay again ! Hats off to all who work here !
If you want to be right in the heart of Lahaina, but enjoy a quiet, comfortable room, this is the place for you. When you first arrive at the Pioneer Inn it's a little hard to find the entrance and where to check in. Wharf Street is a busy area with a lot of pedestrians and traffic. The hotel is in an old building with shops on the first floor, facing the main street, and the rooms on the second floor. We drove around the building a couple times before we figured out the entrance to the hotel and the check in desk were on the back side of the building right across from the Lanai Ferry stop. At first glance you think, "What a neat old, historic building." But after checking in and being directed to our room, the thought was, "What an old, narrow, steep stairway. What a plain old hallway. Wonder what the rooms are like?" As soon as we entered our room, any hesitation was gone. Yes, this is a hotel in an old building. Yes the decor is simple. But the room was spotlessly clean, functional and the bed was super comfortable! We immediately turned on the air conditioner to cool things down, and by the time we had unloaded our suitcases, parked the car (parking is around the block from the hotel), and returned, the room was crisp and cool (the way we like it!). We stayed in several different places during our trip to Hawaii, and our room at the Pioneer Inn was the most comfortable of them all. We were surprised at how quiet things were being in the heart of Old Town Lahaina, but we never had any issues with noise from the street, or from the hallways while we were in our room. The easy access to all the shops, art galleries and restaurants was a great bonus. Once we parked our car we were able to walk everywhere we wanted. The walk along the waterfront is a nice stroll, and the sunset views from the harbor grass area are stunning. I would definitely recommend staying at the Pioneer Inn if you have a few days to spend in Lahaina. It wouldn't make a good base for a long stay just because of the traffic and parking issues in this area. If you're doing a lot of coming and going in a car it would be more difficult. But as a place to stay for a few days, just to explore the Old Lahaina area, it's perfect. The hotel would also not be recommended for people who have trouble going up and down stairs, as all the rooms are on the second story and there is no elevator. It was not an issue for my husband and me, but it's something you should know before reserving a room here. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, greeting us with warm Aloha spirit. We felt they were genuinely happy to have us there. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, easy access to Lahaina fun. That sums up our stay at Pioneer Inn.
My wife and I had to fly over to Maui from Honolulu on business for just one night, and didn't want to pay the exorbitant rates of many of the high-end properties in Ka'anapali and Kihei/Wailea. Instead, we opted for The Pioneer Inn on Front Street in Lahaina. The price was right $160/night, (kama'aina rate), and we were pleasantly surprised. The P.I. was located right on Front St., just a block away from the restaurant we made reservations at, (Mick Fleetwood's). Our room was clean and comfortable, with AC and a mini-fridge to keep our drinks cold, and overlooked the ocean. The TV worked well, however the bathroom was rather small with limited shelf space, (but very clean). Our king-sized bed was VERY comfortable. The only criticism I would have is, this is a 2-story property with no elevator. Lugging a heavy suitcase can pose a problem for some older folks, however, a chap named Dave-O, who works for the P.I. was very nice and helped us with our luggage. This place was great for the limited time we were on Maui, and met our needs quite well. We would recommend it.
The Hotel is in a good location walking distance to everything in Lahaina. However this Hotel is not for Handicap or older people they have no elevator which is not described in the amenities. The Food and Service at the Restaurant and Lounge is EXCELLENT go say "Aloha" to Tyler the bartender he's AWESOME
Going to see and enjoy Lahaina? No better place to stay than this wonderful gem in the center of Lahaina town. Easy parking, great food, nice convenience stores all around, walking distance to numerous restaurants and a very sweet, cute property. Hotel staff was GREAT. Roome were most enjoyable with a great A/C system. The rooms on the Front Street side are "da bomb". Wonderful to sit on your lanai and watch all the other tourists scurry through Lahaina. TOTALLY ENJOYABLE!!!
I have noticed this property just across from the town square during our many trips to Maui (it is hard to miss) but never had a gap in our lodging plans to consider staying there until this year (May 2016). I had one night to fill and rather than pay the fee to stay one night at our timeshare property, I decided it was time to stay in Lahaina at this hotel. Check-in was easy with a very friendly spirit and while parking is off-site, it is only about a block away, so very easy to check-in, get the parking pass for the lot, drive the car there and walk back to the room. We had the prime corner room so our part of the shared porch covered either the town square on one side or the main street on the other. Personally, I preferred sitting looking at the banyan tree rather than the restaurants across the street. In the twilight it was great to sit out and watch and listen to all the birds coming to rest in the branches of the banyan tree. The history of this hotel is covered elsewhere, so I won't go into it here, but just to say that it is an old hotel so it has it unique room layout but the bed was very comfortable, the AC much appreciated (there is little wind movement in Lahaina), and strong WIFI signal. The bathroom had plenty of room, although shelf space was limited, but that just meant I carried in my toothbrush, etc each time, which was not a problem for me. The pool looked inviting but we did not swim. The only con I had (and it is personal preference) is that the 2 restaurants have live music at night and so you cannot escape those performances. If you enjoy the musical tastes of the performers, you will have a good time (and almost front row seat); if you would prefer listening to the birds' songs, you will be disappointed. If I have a gap in my trip ever again, I will not hesitate booking a room here again.
Pleased with our stay at this Hawaiian classic - one of the oldest, continuously operating hotels in the Hawaii. Dripping with history and local charm. The restaurant was reasonably priced for the area.
Two story old wooden building with shops and restaurant bar on the ground floor and rooms upstairs (no elevator). It has a central courtyard with swimming pool French Quarter style with balconies on the inside and outside rooms. The pool is not large, but with fewer rooms, it is often deserted. Located at the wharf it is conveniently located steps from the lanai ferry, boat and snorkel tours, shopping and restaurants. You get a 15% discount at their restaurant. The selection of eateries and sunset view (just the right angle) is superior to Kaanapali and prices are more reasonable. Only bad thing was a noisy window AC, but I can sleep through anything.
Aloha, The main street in Lahaina is "Front Street" and its been declared a "Great Street" by the American Planning Association. Front Street is full of historic, charming and very interesting shops and buildings and I just LOVE it. Up one end of the street, overlooking the Harbour, is the Pioneer Inn, equally as historic, charming and very interesting. After a week or two of being away from home I usually start to miss home and want to get back there, but not during my stay in Lahaina and the Pioneer Inn. For the first time in many, many years I wanted to stay. The atmosphere is so laid back, relaxed and easy going, that I fell for the place and if it wasn't for my commitments here at home, I could quite happily live there. But this is supposed to be a review of the Hotel...right? So here goes....... On arrival, my wife and I had been travelling for 36 hours and desperately needed a shower and some time to unwind. Thankfully the check-in process was smooth and speedy and we were given a ticket that gave us a 15% discount on food and drinks served in the Hotel. The well equipped room (#30) was just an ordinary queen bed room with no frills, but exuded HEAPS of character. It overlooked the pool and courtyard with views of the ocean (100 yards away) through the Franjipani trees. The ceiling fan didn't stop the whole time we were there but despite it being summer, the air-conditioner was only used occasionally. All the hotels accommodation rooms are on the first floor with shops and the hotels Restaurant & Bar below at street level. The whole Hotel exudes a strong nautical antique, seafaring, whaling atmosphere with lots of relics from the era scattered throughout the place. This fabulous atmosphere is continued on throughout Front Street, right from one end to the other. Downstairs on the busiest corner of the hotel is its grill/restaurant/bar. I spent many hours in there, not drinking alcohol (well not ALL the time) but drinking in its atmosphere and absorbing its history. I really enjoyed pulling up a chair at a table next to an open window, or along the outside railing, overlooking the harbour and feeling the breeze float past while enjoying a Mai Tai. Arguing with the hotel's cheeky African Grey parrot, who wolf whistles all the pretty girls, is entertaining too. The food is very reasonably priced and brilliant, served by friendly cheerful staff who always treated us like we were really special. The menu is comprehensive but completely unpretentious. Should you chose to eat elsewhere, Front Street is full of great eateries. Other shops along the street include art galleries, souvenir sellers, clothing retailers and its even got a couple of great little Scrimshaw outlets. (one of my reasons for my visit) All of the Pioneer Inn's staff were wonderful, but some of them deserve a special mention. They were folk who went the extra mile for my wife and I in order to make our stay just that little bit better. Michelle and Angelica in the Restaurant & Bar, deserve applause, but especially, Samantha, behind the reception counter. Well done ladies. If it was possible to give a review 10 green dots then I'd happily do so for the Pioneer Inn. Would I stay here again?....In a heartbeat.....Definitely.....and I hope to, in the not too distant future. Mahalo.
This is a darling little hotel. It's little and quaint. I lived on Maui for 3 yrs and always thought how fun it would be to stay here. It's not fancy but it's perfect! You're right in the middle of all the action. The harbor is just steps out the lobby door. My huge lanai looks out over Front St. You can listen to the live music coming from the restaurant across the street or just sit and people watch. So much to do right here. I will definitely stay here again. Loved it!!
Overall, I would suggest this hotel for your stay in Lahaina if you want an affordable room in a central location. The check-in process was easy. Karen was very personable and informative! It's important to remember you are in an old beach town because the building and rooms are pleasant but not modern or frilly. It felt clean but aged. For instance, the bathroom door is slatted and the A/C window unit in our room was pretty noisy (traveler pro tip: always bring earplugs). We had our own balcony and screen door facing the pool which was enjoyable. They do have a restaurant/bar on the first floor that opens directly into the small harbor where most boat tours in this area depart from, so its a very convenient location. Again, I suggest this hotel if you want an good room in a great area.
This hotel has been remodeled so the rooms are nice. It was built in the early 1900's. However, where your room is located is crucial. If your room faces the street, it is REALLY noisy. I had my room changed to face the courtyard and it was fine. The hotel rooms are on the second floor. There is no elevator. The first floor is occupied by businesses.
We really enjoyed our stay. The location is FANTASTIC, right on Front Street close to all the shops and restaurants. The hotel is not luxury by any means and there is no elevator so dragging the luggage up the stairs is not fun BUT is is clean, close to everything, and very relaxing. We booked the king suite which is on the corner. We had two lanais; one with rocking chairs and a table looking over Front Street and the other with two regular chairs and a table facing the Banyan Tree park with a view of the harbor too. The pool is not huge but it is very relaxing and the decor is nice with lots of tropical plants and trees. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend the Pioneer.
The Pioneer Inn is right on the water front and marina. Everything is in walking distance. Rooms are comfortable. This location takes in what Maui is all about. Staff was very helpful and knew what was happening.
We had a wonderful stay! When we first checked in Kathryn welcomed us like family! During our stay she always smiled, remembered our names and made us feel so welcome. The room was small, but it's a historic hotel, so expected. It was very comfortable and had a little fridge and coffee maker. We had a good size lanai, with a table and chairs. It was lovely to sit outside in the afternoon, had a view of the pool and part of the harbor and ocean. Too dark at night to see much tho. Great location to walk all around town, lots of shops, restaurants, bars, etc. They also include free parking, very close by. We enjoyed the restaurant/bar at the hotel. They have Happy Hour everyday, and delicious food. While staying at the hotel you receive coupons for 15% off all meals, which is a great deal! We stayed 2 nites, would love to return in the future.
Great location next to the Lahaina harbor, giant Banyon tree, and Lahaina shops/restaurants. Very helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast is not served, but you get a discount at the Bar/Grill restaurant attached which has very delicious food and a good Happy Hour menu.
Like to thank Samantha,on the front desk, traveling solo, not feeling good, she went the extra mile !! very helpful, much apreciated . Only issues, rooms too hot,air conditioning very dated and noisy, too noisy to sleep with, ceiling fan but not adiquate.
This charming historic inn is right downtown in Lahaina. Because "charming" often means "small" and "old" I wasn't sure what we would find, but was so pleasantly surprised by this property and the staff. Not only were we allowed to check in early (yay our room was ready at 10:30am!) but we landed a room with a lanai overlooking the gorgeous Banyan Tree and Ocean to the right (Room 27 was wonderful!). We enjoyed some amazing wine on the lanai watching the sunset that evening and had coffee from the room on the lanai the next morning. The room was pristine and the bed was really comfortable. The little A/C unit cooled off the room instantly and when on it drowned out any street noise. The antique furniture and property were beautiful and lent a unique feel to the stay. We walked around the shops downtown and had breakfast in the restaurant downstairs (mac nut pancakes and eggs benedict were to die for!) and everyone was so friendly and helpful. If I had to complain about something, it was the construction that started in around 8am, and that there are no elevators so hauling suitcases up to the second floor may not be ideal for some guests (I told myself I was just working off some fried coconut shrimp!). We stayed here, the Ritz Carlton, and Makena Beach and Golf Resort during our stay on Maui and we both agreed we can't wait to return to Lahaina and the Pioneer Inn would be our first choice to stay in again. Thanks to everyone who contributed to such a delightful experience!
Stay here for the location and a taste of history. Our room had a great porch that we used to watch the nightlife pass below and to dry our swim clothes. Hotel has everything you'd expect - wifi, pool, ice machine, air conditioning. We also appreciated the free keurig coffee in the room. Beyond that, don't expect any luxuries. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful, although you will be smacked in the face with all kinds of instructions on what you can and can't do (no surfboards!) Skip the restaurant in the hotel - sub par food and wait staff - but there's tons of great restaurants and bars minutes away on the main strip.
I read plenty of nice comments on this Hotel and of course of Maui. I'm also sure there are many hotels the deserve a choice, even close to the sea. But we choose Pioneer Inn because Lahaina and the pleasure to walk in the old city over night and early in the morning. You can walk close to the Ocean, enjoy the banyan trees, or buy some souvenir. We love that walks, is like to stay more days in a place where you slowly discover every single piece of nature and city. Like to stay more days in vacation. I'll suggest to take that chance to everyone. From Lahania you can drive your car to the north of the island and enjoy the beaches (Napali beach is by far our preferred choice). You need to park (yes, very small parking areas) and walks to get closer to some beaches. Go to nord until you can and the road get really small. You can also drive south and take the Hana road. From an european driver, a specially an italian one, that road is not so difficult to drive. Don't be scared, but drive safely. You can even go in the Wailea area, where you can enjoy Makena beach as the best in south for us. So, Lahaina is the greatest place to stay, because you come back at night and you enjoy walking at night and in the morning. Back to the hotel, you may wait a bit when you arrive, but don't worry, enjoy the slow down of your life. You may bring your baggage without elevator, but it's not a big deal to reach the 1st (and only) floor. Our room was very good, but some are complaining not all the rooms have a comfortable bed: our was perfect, so room 30 is well positioned, close to the stairs. If you want a discount (15%), take the breakfast in the restaurant close to the hotel, but if you want to try something different, just go the parking area (yes, the hotel will give you the possibility for a free parking very close to the hotel) and have a breakfast in the TAKE HOME PINNEAPLES place. You will enjoy fresh fruits, coffe, toasts or whatever you desire (but please do not desire too much ...) served by hawaiian people old fashion. You will like it (no more then 12 $ per person). If you want a low cost hotel, do not choose this hotel. If you desire to "live" Maui the old style, you cannot miss to stay at the Pioneer Inn.
This isn't a 5 star resort but it is a fun, unique, clean and perfectly located in the heart of Lahaina by the biggest banyan tree in the US and right behind the busiest small boat harbor in Hawaii. The rooms are small but adorned with historical but well kept amenities, cold AC, coffee and fridge. the restaurant downstairs has good food but great characters that provide non stop entertainment both behind the bar and and in the chairs. Special thanks to Donna, Tyler, and Sam.
Spent 2 nights at The Pioneer waiting to join friends at the Maui Ocean Club later in the week. From check in to check out, I was pleasantly surprised. I found it to be very clean, comfortable and welcoming in the traditional Aloha manner. Patty checked me in and even assisted me by carrying my luggage up to my room! This is certainly over and above normal job duties and very kind and considerate. Room (& building itself) was comfortable, clean and with a whole lot of character. Nice lanai, courtyard, pool and a free parking pass! Overall it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend The Pioneer.
Went for the Submarine ride and then stopped here for a bite. The Parrot entertained during our meal which was simple but good. Fish Tacos for my wife and a nice burger for me. Service was excellent and the price was fair.
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights at end of our trip to Maui. The hotel has plenty of character and is clean and comfortable. We arrived early and the receptionist Samantha was really helpful. She locked our cases away and gave us a free parking pass so we could look round the town and area while we waited for our room to be ready. She said we could also use the nice pool (with towels provided) or the bar on site while waiting. (The bar has an afternoon happy hour from 3pm with budweiser just $2.00). We went to the Old Lahaina Luau on our second night which was an easy 15-20 minute walk, although unfortunately we had rain on the way there. Lahaina is a walkable, comfortable town with plenty of eating options. However the beaches north of the town were all extremely busy and unless you arrive early the beach parking soon fills up.
Would only stay at this Bestwestern. The staff was very helpful and always had answers to help us see the sites. It was a great trip and would go back there. Can't say enough about this hotel. I would highly recommend anyone to stay there.
I had a nice trip to Lahaina and had lunch and a drink at the Pioneer Inn. You can't beat the location for a day traveler to Lahaina. If you are out sight seeing and want to take a break I strongly recommend the bar at the Pioneer Inn. Lahaina is one of the nicest places to walk down memory lane. It can take you back to the whaling days of the 1700. Hawaii is a history chest that very few of us learn about in school. Back to the Pioneer Inn... After a club sandwich and a beer I was able to tour a room and got to see the pool area. I would like to come back for the weekend and stay up late having fun and walk around from Bar to Bar. I will bee back for the nightlife
Great Lahaina location, rooms were a little small but adequate for two people. Close to all the Lahaina hot spots, we walked everywhere for dinner and entertainment. Lanai needs to be sanded and painted, paint was peeling and my wife got a paint splinter on her bare foot.
We wanted to stay somewhere different, away from all the resorts, so we chose the pioneer inn, in Lahaina . It was the best choice we ever made! Lahaina is a beautiful town on the harbour rather than a beach. The pioneer inn was just beautiful - so historic, quaint and quirky! It was built in 1903 and has a beautiful history depicted with photos in the "oldy worldly" restaurant/bar. Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn even did a movie there. All the surrounding shops and restaurants are built in the same quaint and " oldy worldly ". There's even an outlet centre within walking distance, with many bargains! If you are looking for something different, away from the resorts and beaches, indulge in some history and beautiful architecture of a "world gone by" and stay at the best and western pioneer inn, Lahaina, Maui.
This is a lovely old hotel, built in the early 1900s. The only problem is that it does not have an elevator, and all the rooms are on the 2nd. floor. They did offer to have a gentleman help us with our bags. We had a nice room with an air conditioner that kept the room at a constant 72*, very efficient. Our balcony faced Front Street, (was always in the shade) so it was nice to sit out and have coffee or a drink and watch all the 'goings on' below. The restaurant had a good breakfast and dinner, you got a 15% discount with the room for one meal. We were boarding a cruise ship from Lahaina, and this was a perfect hotel, all we had to do was roll our suitcases across the street to the warf and the waiting tender.
This old inn puts you in the centre of Lahaina and offers a glimpse of bygone Hawai'i. The rooms are comfortable; you'll enjoy sitting out on the Lanai. Be sure to grab a shaved ice from Ululani's while in town.
Great location. Great service. Room clean, bed terrific, quiet room, AC drowns out noise so get a really good night sleep. Shower is to die for - pressure galore. Receptionists are very friendly and helpful.
- Excellent Location: Right at Lahaina Downtown, bustling Front street ahead and Lahaina harbor behind. Perfect for sunset watching and cruise activities. - Free Parking and very accessible to all shops and restaurants - Old style inn, but very clean and comfortable. No frills. - Happy hour 3-6pm, $4 Mai Tai's! - Free WiFi everywhere
Very impressed with the office staff who were very helpful and progressional. Great location and nice porch to people watch and just enjoy the view of the harbor and front street. It was quiet at night and maintenance staff and housekeepers were very helpful and courteous. Pool area was nice and quiet and very, very clean. Air conditioner worked very well and kept the room cool for a long time after being turned off and doors closed, etc.
This is the oldest hotel on Maui. The original part of the inn was built in 1901 and it still has that historic vibe to it. All 34 rooms are on the second floor and there is no elevator in this old building. The rooms are good size with very modern, but small, bathrooms. Each room has a large lanai facing either the courtyard pool or the street. My room faced the courtyard and it was very nice to sit out there and have my coffee in the morning. The room was very clean and the staff was polite and helpful. You must park at the curb and check in and then move your car to a parking lot across the street. Parking was very convenient and the inn is in the middle of town so you can walk everywhere. The only downside for me was that the room air conditioner was a bit loud. However, I will definitely stay here again when I am in Lahaina.
If you like history this is for you. It is right in the historic district of Lahina across from the banyan tree. We had a room overlooking the park and the tree with a nice porch tables and chairs. We also had a room with an A/C issue and they moved us right away. Great service, nice folks, incredible location and parking nearby in a protected lot all make this a great place to stay. I will come back!
Very enjoyable stay; Great location for walking to everything in Lahaina. One note- since it is an old building (that has been remodeled very well), you can hear your neighbors if they get up very early to check out.
Nice place, very nice rooms close to everything and they have free parking ,the only bad thing about this place no elevator and nobody to help you bring your luggage upstairs, if they would add a bellhop to bring the luggage to your room I would give them 5 stars.
This is the second time we have stayed here, and would be happy to return. The hotel is in an historic building, from the time that Lahaina was established, and has not been changed. Rooms are small, but quaint and adequate with a veranda facing the inner courtyard . We felt like we were on the plantation. Great staff! All were very pleasant and helpful, we felt at home. There is an attachéd restaurant with very reasonable rates & we were given a voucher for 15% discount which we used for breakfast (not included in the rates). In addition, the location is great in the heart of Lahaina.
If you like historic hotels in the thick of things this is it! Our room/lanai overlooked Front St. Walk to everything including the beach. Happy hour daily, good food in the restaurant. Pool was nice as well. Friendly, helpful staff. Would def stay there again.
Great hotel that sits in the heart of Lahaina. Within walking distance to Old Lahaina Luau. Free parking was easy and convenient; a block and a half away. Highly recommend to feel the Lahaina night life! The room had a window A/C unit that worked great, could be a little loud for light sleepers.
This is a neat old hotel in Lahaina. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The staff is truly outstanding. Katherine was very attentive to our needs and always checked with us when we walked through the lobby. Look forward to staying here in the future!
Would you rather stay in a hotel over 100 years old and which was the only hotel on the Island until 1961 - or would you rather be in an expensive modern block that could be anywhere in the world?! Delightful reception staff Great location by the dock, Front Street and the banyan tree Fun bar and breakfast/ dinner room Unspoilt building. No unnecessary modernisation Great rooms. Very clean and well appointed Ask for an upstairs room with a balcony and view
Was there for Thanksgiving 2014, and it was great. The rooms are fine, but hey, what the heck are you doing in the room all day when you are on Maui? Breakfast in the restie downstairs was fine every day, Bloody Mary's very good. The bird in the adjacent bar was entertaining. Now, speaking of birds, the Banyan Tree across the street is home to just about every Myna Bird from Honolua Bay to Hana, that being said these little guys make a racket when waking up and at night when nesting.Deal with it and drink at the bar. Across the street is the ferry to Lanai, A good day trip, and a great jumping off spot for your Maui stay. Book it, you will not be disappointed.
This hotel is in a great and central location adjacent to the harbour, Banyan Tree Square and the main street. All the rooms are on the 1st floor, with balconies . We chose one overlooking Banyan Tree Square as it was quieter that those facing Front Street and we enjoyed watching and listening to the roosting birds at dusk. The staff were all friendly and most helpful.
Stayed here for 2 nights on my Hawaii trip and pleased that it wasn't that bad, the rooms are dated but full of character, the location right in the heart of Lahaina is perfect, walking distance to everything. It is a historic building so I guess they are limited in what renovations or modernising they can do. Allocated room facing the historic banyan tree, great to have the lanai and sit and watch the world go by and chill out. Parking was included in the rate and you could park in the lot behind the Baldwin house ( remember to display your permit) minutes away, a great time and cost saving. Bed was ok, perhaps a little soft but the room was clean, the bathroom spotless, the sink was in need of replacing but a minor point. Big cupboard and lots of storage in the dresser. Also there is no lift so you have to carry your case up the stairs to your room. There are not a lot of rooms so it does fill up fast even at $199 a night. Wifi worked very well, small pool area for relaxing on a lounger and soaking up the rays. Breakfast was not included but you could dine in the hotel bar/ restaurant and get discount by getting a card from reception. It was great to be in the middle of everything and be able to park when you return from the beach at the end of the day without having to search for a space. Not bad value at all, all considering.
For one week my wife and I lived in Lahaina Maui. We chose the Best Western Pioneer Inn because of its central location to all we wanted to experience from a Hotel. I love history. This Hotel location, the oldest on the island (1901), is full of history from the time of the whalers to the making of movies. Our connections to dinner cruises, Luau's and shows just walking distance. The many museums kept us entertained for days. On the days I wasn't driving the Island, I was here with my car parked enjoying Lahaina and the Pioneer Inn. We ate all our breakfasts in the Pioneer Inn Restaurant (be sure to try the sausage...excellent) and got to know the waitress's and other staff. Having made friends with many people of the area we were sad to leave this community that we now felt part of. This is my favorite Best Western Hotel.
When in Maui, we always stay at Pioneer Inn in Lahaina. Historic, great location, friendly staff, all-around GREAT!!! The rooms are spacious and clean. Rooms have a lanai, which allows for a leisurely breakfast or evening relaxation.
I was a little wary when I first made the reservation but I'm glad I made the choice. I haven't been particularly impressed with the hotel choices on Maui that were in my price range, mostly individually owned condo units run by management companies so one is never really sure what to expect . I travel on business and it's hard to sell luxury resorts to my bosses. I spent 3 weekday nights. The hotel is not luxurious but it is clean, comfortable and has character. The room was small but it did have a deck that faced out on the banyan tree with an angled harbor view. The mattress was a little tired but was acceptable and the air-conditioner was an old window unit; a little noisy but kept the room ice cold for sleeping at night. A small refrigerator was also included and a great single serving Keurig coffee maker. It was great being right in historic Lahaina town walking to restaurants or stores and being right next to the harbor to view the sunsets. There was some street noise but the town pretty much shuts down by 10:30 so I got my beauty sleep and was ready to work the next day. The restaurant gives a discount to hotel guests, it's convenient and was great for people and parrot watching, food was reasonably priced and good basic fare. So I'll probably stay here again although I am always looking for options. My main issue is I was working at Kahului airport and it's a long drive. I often stay at the airport Courtyard which is brand new, clean and comfortable but no character and in the middle of nowhere "Pau Hana".
Location excellent in the heart of Lahaina next to the ocean. Room large and comfortable. There was a loud humming noise in the bathroom but we were advised this was being worked on even though we didn't mention it.
I stayed here for only one night after a week at a private home on Maui, but loved my little vacation in Lahaina. The hotel, which has been there since the early 1900s, is nevertheless modern, though minus an elevator, very clean and reminded me of a New Orleans hotel. It has a wonderful, large and quiet courtyard with tables and chairs as well as a pool. The restaurant, which faces the harbor, is both good and very reasonably priced, with many small plates (nice-sized tapas) under $10. I ate there twice. My sister and friend, who helped me check in before I drove them to the airport, loved the place and were sorry there weren't able to stay there. There are no extra costs, wifi and parking are included. In a town like Lahaina where parking is at a premium, it was a real bonus. There are no real beaches nearby, but since a rental car is essential for visiting Maui, it's no big deal to get into the car and explore beaches outside of town. You're also in the middle of town so you have easy walking access to restaurants, bars, stores, etc. and the hotel is right on the harbor where many boats leave for snorkeling/whale-watch/sunset and other trips. My balcony facing the banyan tree park, with views to town on my left and of the harbor on the right, was lovely and roomy with a table and chairs; even though it wasn't private, in that only a railing separated each balcony, no one else ever seemed to be out on their balcony at the same time as I was; it's a great people-watching spot as well. Staff was very friendly and gracious.
The place was clean, although the carpet needed cleaning. Full kitchen was fully equipped. Convenient to also have a washer and dryer with provided laundry detergent. The staff were professional and courteous. Had full ocean view with comfortable balcony. Small but very comfortable.
Not being a fan of (large) resorts (although they can offer nice features), this hotel is perfect for a "home-base". Our room over-looked Banyan Court Park, with views of both ocean and mountain on either side... the balcony provided perfect space for coffee and people-watching. Sandwiched between the shopping district and harbor, it was surprisingly calm. The room was perfect to return to from every day of exploration. If you like simplicity and the absence of large crowds and families, this is the place to stay in. Character and history...

We are grateful that you appreciate the historical character and ambiance of our hotel. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and please come back to see us soon.
If you like to be in the "middle of it", this is the perfect place. It is not a luxury resort with dozens of staff members running around to get you a pool or beach chair but it is the perfect city hotel. The rooms are clean and well maintained, have balconies with chairs and tables, have daily housekeeping service, and are not too expensive (for Maui). The location in Lahaina is superb, just next to the famous Banyan Tree, and adjacent to the Lahaina Wharf and Main Pier. If you are planning to do anything on the water, the hotel is just a few steps away. The staff will do everything in their power to make your stay perfect, help you with your luggage, etc. The only drawback is they do not have an elevator and all the rooms are one flight up. This is probably due to the age and history of this hotel . They have parking included in the room rate and it is just one block away. We stay here for at least one week every time we are in Maui and cannot wait to go back.

Joel: Thank you for being a return guest. We are proud of our historic hotel and love to share it with people like yourself who appreciate it.
I really love the location of this Hotel, easy walk to the whale watch boats and lots of places to shop and eat. It is an older Hotel and in need of some investment with the air conditioning being very old. Great deck to unwind at night though
This hotel is steaped in history and I cannot recommend it enough, all the rooms are upstairs with balcony - overlooking the pool of the town, I would recommend the pool view, but if you like people watching go for the town views. The rooms are very comfortable, tastefully decorated I tune with the age of the building, but with all mod cons, flat to, fridge and wifi (on only if they had all this in the early 1900's ! ) . The service is excellent, and get up early and have s wonderful breakfast in the hotel restaurant over looking the harbour .... Highly recommend it.
Spent five nights at the Pioneer Inn. Our room (#21) faced the Banyan tree and was a wonderful location for people watching. The lanai, although not completely private, had a table and two chairs and was a fine place to read a book or watch the boats come and go from the harbor. The streets are little noisy in the mornings with delivery trucks coming and going but, hey, your in the middle of town... I'd stay there again.
We stayed at this historic and charming hotel on our last night in Maui. The staff was extremely accommodating as they stored our luggage before we parked a couple blocks away so we could take the submarine ride before check-in. They also arranged for a taxi to take us to the Old Lahaina Luau. The downtown location was fabulous, as the wharf was just across the street, park to one side, and many shops and eateries within walking distance. Our second story room had a spacious lanai where we people-watched as we drank our morning coffee. This side of the island is very busy and touristy compared to the north side where we spent a week in Paia, but we were glad to visit this cute town of Lahaina and stay at this nice hotel.
The best location in the center of town with so much to do and right a long the harbor. All amenities you need in clean, air conditioned rooms, with a wonderful open air restaurant downstairs. The staff from the front desk to the waitresses, to the maid service was excellent and always available. We also enjoyed an evening with "Albert Einstein" performance over dinner. We certainly enjoyed our 8 day stay.....will stay here again when we get to go back to Maui!!!
Nothing special for a hotel room but location in Lahaina was terrific. Old style. Beds were comfortable. Showers were good. Very accommodating. Would go back again if in the area. Clean. Pool was nice place to relax.
Great hotel with a great location! It is located right across from the busy harbor with ferries, tours, etc. We stayed here 2 nights after spending 2 nights at the Lahaina Inn. We're so glad we switched! We ate in the restaurant twice and that was good also!
We enjoy staying at the Pioneer Inn. It is like going back in time and yet has all the modern amenities needed (other than an elevator). It is walkable to shops and restaurants and activities. Going out on a whaling boat, a submarine is right out the front door. A restaurant is right downstairs for convenience. We've stayed there twice and enjoyed it both times.
Nice old hotel, clean rooms, right in the heart of Lahina. I love this hotel because it's been there forever and it's location is great! You can go out for a few drinks and not have to worry about driving. Rooms are a little small but the charm makes up for it. It seems to have stayed the same for a hundred years. Outside facing rooms have decks facing the street which is great for people watching. Bar/ restaurant downstairs. This is the real Hawaii not as phony as Kanapali!
We absolutely loved this place! It's soooo cool, but, as the title says, it's not for everyone. It's a bit old-fashioned in several respects (no elevator to the upper floor, no on-site parking), but its quaintness more than makes up for it. Our room with its outside balcony facing a park with a huge, ancient Banyan tree, and the open-air first-floor restaurant facing the dock front and ocean were priceless. The fact you're right in the middle of all that goes on in this touristy town makes for a lot of fun people- watching, not to mention always being on the lookout for the Humpback whales in season.
This little Hotel is big in so many ways. The staff is outstanding from housekeeping to the bar. The food is great along with the location, live music a few nights a week was a nice surprise. I will be a returning guest for sure. The ALOHA Sprit is alive here. Thank you again for the stay
The location of this hotel for me was the best thing about this hotel - smack bang in Lahaina old town, giving me a fantastic view of the harbour and banyan tree, as well as the lovely and helpful staff! It was easy to get around (I didn't rent a car for my stay), so walking around was great, particularly in the evenings after sampling the town's mai tais and the bus stop is nearby. The downside was the musty smell which I found quite strong and the air con system which was very old and loud. However, despite this I enjoyed my stay there.
We had fun staying at this hotel we wanted to stay within the Historical area of Lahaina and the price was very reasonable. The service was great ! The rooms were comfortable although it is a Historical hotel so it is older but very well maintained. We were able to walk around town and board our boat rides right in front of the hotel, no need to get up super early.
This was a very nice stay in the heart of Lahaina where all the action is at. Very neat and friendly. Very reasonable cost! we liked the quiet atmosphere and the fact that the place is not really big! The rooms were adequate and clean, the food there was wonderful and there is a discount for you to eat there! Located right next to the harbor where you can take your boat tours! Shops and food are right there, too.
This hotel was very quaint and convenient. We took a whale watching sunset tour so we just could walk out the front door. Lahaina has a fun downtown with restaurants, bars and shopping. The hotel was clean with a friendly staff.
I loved this old inn!! Katherine checked us in and was super friendly. Throughout our stay she answered any questions we had. Our room was nice. It wasn't huge or modern but I thought it was nice and great for the price. The location is great! The pool was nice and we also had night caps in the hotel bar. This is where I'm staying in Lahaina from now on!
My wife and I are on the plus side of 65y/o. We wanted something that didn't have the hustle and bustle, just fun. This is exactly what we were looking for. The hotel was just as described. The service was better than terrific. The location was great and was close to everything. We walked everywhere for the two weeks we were there and didn't bother renting a car. There were buses that made stops close to the hotel and the fares were reasonable. There is shopping and great food within walking distance. We had so much fun that we have booked again for 2016.
Arrived in Lahaina from the Lanai Ferry. We were early and the kind lady at the desk (Amanda) who gave us some tips of what to see other than the Banyon Tree, stored our luggage and we headed out for lunch and to explore. When we returned later we were very pleased as we had a corner room with the double balcony and king size bed. Everything we needed. They also have a great little restaurant and bar with good food and cold beer. Again just what we needed. Later that night we headed out to the Old Lahaina Luau. Fabulous! All in all we enjoyed our stay at this quaint little hotel and would reccomend it to anyone visiting Lahaina. From here we moved on as we were travelling through the islands. Bill and Ruth Elmira ON Canada
We arrived on Jan 21st/16 from Lanai on the ferry We were early but the young lady at checkout was very kind and helpful. Her name was Amanda. She said staff were getting our rooms ready but it was still early No worries, we wanted to get lunch and check out the banyon tree and other sites anyway. She supplied us with some useful information and tips and stored our luggage for us and off we went. When we returned. our room was ready. Very clean, comfy bed and a great view of the Banyon Tree Park and the main street. All in all we enjoyed our stay here. We moved on as we were travelling through several islands but from here we were moving to another part of Maui.
We had a wonderful time at the Best Western Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, Maui. Don' let the fact that it is owned by a chain fool you. The Pioneer Inn is the oldest hotel in Lahaina and has retained its original charm. Past guests have included Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra. It has an excellent restaurant--open for all 3 meals--with friendlies parrot named Alex and a discount for those staying at the Inn. The staff is tremendously friendly and helpful especially the manager, Mark, Katherine at the desk and Angelica at the restaurant. Well located adjacent to the famous Banyan Tree park & boat trips from the harbor--including whale watching in the winter (Thousands of whales pass through to mate; we saw 15-20 in one 90 minute trip).
The location of this hotel is right in the heart of Lahaina, amongst a lot of shops and restaurants. It was very clean, friendly & helpful staff, and the beds were awesome! Super comfortable mattresses! The restaurant in the hotel has a menu with a great deal of options and very good food. We didn't use the pool, but it looked very clean, as was the entire grounds. Our room was small, with two twin beds, but it was perfect for our needs. Definitely recommend this hotel!
For the price and location this place is great. The rooms are small and out dated but while in the room we was on the balcony or sleeping. The beds are very comfortable. The have a restaurant and bar attached that had good food, good service and great drinks! The hotel is located in the heart of the downtown area right on the edge of the water. Many many shops and restaurants within walking distance.
The Pioneer Inn is in a great location on the Lahaina waterfront. Boat departures are just steps away from its entrance. Parking is included in the room price; the lot is located a block away. It's an easy walk to Lahaina town's shops, restaurants, and other tourist attractions. The drive to Kaanapali only takes 10-15 minutes and to Kapalua just 25 minutes. The hotel does have an old-fashioned feel to it. All the rooms are on the second floor. You'll have to walk up about 20 steps, as there is no elevator. Rooms are comfortable, but small, dark, and a bit dated. Try to get a room facing the courtyard, as they have small balconies with chairs. The front desk staff is welcoming and always cheery. A restaurant is conveniently right off the lobby, and a nice place for a meal.
the hotel has awesome character. Due to the smaller rooms, the beds are not overly large. They are comfortable, just not huge. The hotel has an awesome location, in the heart of Lahina, right across the street from dinner cruises, whale watching cruise's and a short tour to awesome luau. The whale activity that can be viewed from the dock is incredible.
We didn't stay at the hotel but went for breakfast twice because it was so good. The service is the best, there's a friendly parrot sitting in the corner to add to the ambiance (if you go talk to him he'll ask you if you're drunk) and the food was perfect! They have American classics plus Hawaiian traditional favorites. I had spam and eggs the first time!, along with the best country potatoes/cubed hash browns I've ever tasted. Don't pass it by!
We spent a night at the Pioneer Inn on our way from the airport to Kaanapali. It was very comfortable and the lanai overlooking Front Street offered first-rate people watching. The hotel is right next to the Banyan Tree park and an easy walk to shops, restaurants, and museums. Warm and helpful staff. Lahaina itself is basically a tropical version of Provincetown.
I read the earlier reviews about the mold smell, but we were here many decades ago, so decided to persist in our nostalgia. We had a courtyard room - definitely ask for one - and just opened it up to the breezes and had no reaction. One big plus was the toilet was higher than most, so with my bad back, I did better. Another was the lovely mirror in the bedroom, both giving the illusion of having a larger space and using it when the bathroom was otherwise occupied. The swimming pool in the courtyard was in the shade, so no sunburn while swimming. A minus is there is no elevator, so my husband had to lug the suitcases up the tall flight of stairs. Fortunately, he lifts weights, so that was no problem. Free parking is one block away. Free wifi is in our room. The staff was very helpful, and the room was clean. Add the Front Street location and the Banyan tree in the next block, then breakfast in the downstairs restaurant that was worth our paying for, and this is a good value for the area.
We only stayed one night. The staff were friendly and courteous. The room was small but very clean. We had a balcony overlooking the shops. It is an older hotel with no elevator but according to the signage it was the only hotel on the island before the 60's which gives it charm. It is noisy due to the closeness of the harbor and shops but not so much as to bother our sleep.
I have seen mixed reviews on this historic downtown Lahaina hotel. We just spent 4 nights and had a great time. The desk staff (Kathline and Amanda) were great throughout, the location cannot be beat, free parking was nice, and people watching outside the deck made each night. It is a 100 year old building, but care has been taken to make it comfortable and clean. We walked to EVERYTHING as this was a no tour, no plans, etc. trip. If you want a "resort" go up coast and pay a lot more money. But if you want to be near the fun, I would recommend a few nights at the Pioneer.
This quaint little historic Inn is right in the heart of Lahaina . You can walk every were. The rooms were not large, but very clean. The food in the cute restaurant right on the street across form the harbor severed a great breakfast at a reasonable price. Katherine at the front desk was wonderful and helped me find a dentist when a little emergency happened. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful even the servers in the restaurant . No elevator, so it is not handicap acessable , but we ate so much on this trip we needed the exercise ! And you can't beat the free parking which is unheard of in Maui.
After a lot of flying and driving, the Pioneer Inn was the perfect spot for a short break before we started a self drive tour of Maui. It was very well located without being noisy, was clean and with very friendly staff. It was a great base to be able to explore Lahaina from. Definitely recommend for a short stay.
I don't really know where to start with this hotel. Initially I was disappointed because it really is very old - no surprise there, it doesn't hide that fact! We arrived late at night and got the friendliest welcome from reception of any hotel ever! We got into our room and initial impressions were that it smelt like a public toilet. Nice large balcony and fair décor, but louvre doors in the bathroom were not very private for two friends staying in the same room. When the sun came up the next morning it did brighten our moods and impression of the place. Staff were ultra-friendly, restaurant and bar a joy and the location really is fantastic. This is not really a hotel to stay at if you want to lounge by the pool all day, I think there were four loungers and the pool didn't look particularly inviting. I always judge a hotel by whether I would return or not - I certainly would, very quaint and different, unless I wanted to lounge by the pool!
Great stay, location, & best happy hour;)Katherine is extremely helpful & the staff as well. We enjoyed the walks on Front St and the veiw of the ocean with a good breakfast menu at the bar and grill don't forget to say hi to Alex the parrot whistling to the girls and talking to the customers.
Very well located hotel with balcony of our room directly in front of the famous banyan tree courthouse. Parking is included, a bonus considering that Lahaina seems to have 15 parkings spots for every 200 cars! Short walking distance from numerous restaurants, convenience and tourist stores and art galleries. On the negative side, AC in room can be a little noisy and prepare yourself for a gym session muscling your luggages to the 2nd floor as there is no elevator. A cheap price to pay compare to all the benefits this hotel has!
Location, location location. If you want to be close to the action on front street, this is it. Out your door, down to the street and your in the heart of it. Right at the Pier if you want to head to Lanai for a day trip or other boat tours. Rooms are clean and adequate. Small quaint little pool area. Staff are friendly. Affordable good food In the restaurant.
What a fabulous time we had at this cute hotel! Excellent location where we could walk the front street shops. There is a great bar/restaurant downstairs and our room had the most comfortable bed ever! The pool was very clean and the courtyard was cute. If you are looking for a posh resort, keep looking. If you want a hotel that has a great location and friendly staff, then don't delay and book here today!
The Pioneer Inn was the perfect place for us to stay on our first night on Maui. The atmosphere is so welcoming and the position near Front St is perfect for those who don't have a car. We walked and explored this part of Lahaina. The restaurant is lovely, excellent food and great service. We would definitely stay here again.
If you are going to Maui, this is a must stay hotel. It felt like I was at the French Quarters in New Orleans. All the employees were friendly and kind. If you stay you will experience great customer service. The location is right by the ocean, shopping and restaurants. This hotel has its own restaurant with the best breakfast found. They even offer a discount for guests.
Fabulous location if you want to be in the centre of town within walking distance of wharf, restaurants, tourist shops and directly opposite Banyan Tree Park. Free Parking is 1 block away .Breakfast is available to purchase at the restaurant downstairs and was fairly well priced and very tasty. Their is no lift and all rooms are on the 1st floor - this may be a problem for some people. The rooms were clean and comfortable but not very big in size. The louvred door to the bathroom was a bit strange. We had a room overlooking the courtyard which was very quiet but since the courtyard was bounded by the hotel buildings there was absolutely no breeze and it was quite hot on the balcony. The old plantation style building is beautiful but luckily the rooms are modern. We enjoyed our stay here and found the staff helpful and friendly.
While I wouldn't want to spend an extended amount of time here, it's perfect for a night or two! The location is perfect if you want to be in downtown Lahaina. You have shops, restaurants, bars right outside your doorstep. The room was small, but that's to be expected with a historic hotel. We enjoyed the charm and period-details. The hotel was clean and quiet as well. Hopefully we can return for Halloween sometime soon!
This hotel combines historic character with great location in Lahaina. The room was comfortable, with outdoor balcony to enjoy as well with views of courtyard and harbor beyond. We had no troubles with noise, though our room faced the inside courtyard which probably helps. Overall, a wonderful stay at a reasonable price (included parking and wifi). Note that there are no elevators, but help was offered with luggage if needed.
This hotel history traces back to the early days of Lahaina. It's an old wooden two story with spacious, modernized, comfortable rooms. The bar & grill next door will take you back to old wooden ship days. Food is very good but a limited menu but includes delicious fresh fish. Located in front of the harbor you are ready to whale watch or snorkel cruise anytime you want. It is in the historical part of town near restaurants, galleries & shops. Lodging includes free parking which is always a challenge in Lahaina. The staff were very helpful & friendly. Room was immaculate & the bathroom in our room #44 was recently updated. The bed was very comfortable & the room was quiet except for the necessary wall air conditioner. Our room also had a balcony with a view courtyard. When the cruise ships are in town it gets really busy & crowded. My wife & I loved our stay.
Whenever my wife and I travel to Maui we stay at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina We started staying here several years ago and found the hotel to be a hidden gem. The hotel is located in the heart of Lahaina town and walking distance to nearly everything in the area.
A great place to stay and so convenient to everything, just walk across a one lane road and you are at the Marina for snorkel trips, whale watching boats, a great submarine ride and so much more. All of the shops are open until 10:00 P.M. and restaurants are open until around midnight. You can walk the quaint streets of Lahaina and have a great time.
Don't expect a resort property like so many on this beautiful island. This properties charm is the historic nature and ideal location for an active traveler. Want to island hop? the ferry is at your front door. The $4 happy hour Mai Tai's are very good.
Because we were to stay at an upmarket Hotel in Waikiki we decided to try this historic Inn in Maui. Price was very reasonable and it was in the middle of Lahania. Rooms were a good size with a large outside deck overlooking the town & park & waterfront. Staff were friendly and beer was cheap. Only drawback was that it was a bit noisy from the birds and nightlife but we got used to it.
Great place to stay. super friendly staff and very convenient location to everything in Lahaina. Love it being so quaint and well maintained. Lovely little courtyard and nice little pool area.. Only had lunch in the restaurant but salad was very good and nice presentation.
The hotel has a great location, very nice staff, and comfortable rooms. It is an older property but it is well maintained. The staff is very helpful. The room we had was comfortable with a nice balcony overlooking the Banion Tree and the harbor. The air conditioner fan is pretty noisy but it stays on all the time, which is great at night as the noise becomes "white noise". The bathroom is pretty small but clean and has all the right amenities. We have stayed at the big resorts on Maui, but wanted an "in-town" experience this time. We loved it, and would do it again. Lahaina is a lovely town.
While travelling between islands, we usually stay here. It's a great location, very comfortable rooms, and the hotel staff is very helpful. It's right in the hub of Lahaina, just in front of the harbor and easy walking distance to all the local businesses.
The place is small, cute and super clean. Traveled alone for the first time and felt very safe. The front desk was very accommodating and recommended lots to do and see. Great location and in the middle of everything. Felt very safe walking around town at night alone to and from this hotel. Would go back in a heartbeat. Raved about this place to my husband. When he and I go back we may stay here.
We were treated with the aloha spirit, given #1 best service at check in all the way until check out. We were so impressed with all the staff. The room was beautiful & quiet. Best view of front street from the restaurant & awesome food. We can't wait to stay here again.
My hotel stay was excellent from check-in to check-out. All of the hotel staff were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed being near Lahaina Harbor and the Banyan tree. Also, Alex the parrot made my hotel stay much more enjoyable. He is a real character.
We enjoyed our stay at Pioneer inn. The location in Lahaina was perfect and the service and staff were great. The room had all we needed and was comfortable and clean. It was a nice distance from the local shops and was right on the harbour which is convenient if you are doing any boat tours. The big banyan tree is just across the road and the PI has a restaurant and general store attached which we used and were both great. Parking and internet is complimentary. Only downfall is no lift and if you are fussy about pillows byo, otherwise it's an ideal place for your stay in lahaina. Also if you have a car drop your bags first before parking as the carpark they use is not directly attached and it's just easier than dragging it down the street
Friends have staye din the p[ast ths is our first time-staff excellent and will do their best for an early check in very porpular hotel. Amanda and Team great job Mahalo. BValus with the discount card for breakfast great pus you get discounts for lunch and dinner-great happy hour.
Stayed at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, Maui. Front of the House staff is very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable in the area of entertainment and attractions. Pioneer Inn is a historic hotel from the turn of the century. The rooms are nothing flashy or fancy but clean and comfortable. Best thing I liked about this hotel is it's location to all of the ocean activities that depart from Lahaina Harbor, directly cross the street and its proximity to many eateries and evening life. True small town feel. I'll be staying there again!
My girlfriend and I stayed at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina for the 2nd year in a row. This visit was just as enjoyable as our first if not more so. We had the same room, so we felt right at home. The staff is really great and everyone was so helpful. We brought some food to the hotel to eat later and the bartender gave us some nice plats and utensils to take to your room. Everyone at the front desk was really friendly and helpful, no matter how busy they were. All the rooms are on the second floor, with no elevator, since the hotel was built in 1901, but we just got some good exercise and my girlfriend didn't mind, even though she has bad knees. There is a lot of history to the hotel and reading about all the famous people who have stayed there makes you feel kind of special. There is a nice pool and it's never crowded, so it's nice to cool off after a long day off snorkeling or shopping. The hotel is located right in the middle of Lahaina where all the action is and they have free parking which is a great plus since parking is a problem in Lahaina. We were truly satisfied with our stay and we will be back next year.
As a local, I am loyal to your hotel. I love everything about it! I recommend that my friends from the mainland stay with you. You are awesome! Mark is an amazing manager, the front desk helped me with professionalism and efficiency. Donna Blanco is fantastic! Burger was yummy... the best Bloody Mary's on the island too! Thank you very much for all you do!
I requested a room overlooking the banyan tree and got one. The location is handy if you are a SCUBA diver as the marina is right there. If stairs are a problem for you don't take a room on the 2nd floor. On the down side, housekeeping was sloppy and the front desk was not able to provide a needle and thread when requested. Check-in and check-out were efficient and friendly. I would stay again for the location.
This biggest draw to staying here is the location. You're right by Front Street where all the awesome shopping is. Overall it's pretty charming aesthetically. The room was okay. Bathroom had almost no counter space. Shower was nice and hot. The air conditioner was sooooo loud but was thankful to have it as a retreat from the Maui humidity. Bed was pretty comfortable. The wifi is terrible slow unfortunately. We'd probably stay again if nothing else for the location aspect.
We spent one quick day at this cute little beach side hotel. It has an old school feel but is very clean and kept. The few staff that we did encounter was very friendly. They have a small pool in the quaint courtyard. The room had a refrigerator which was a surprise so I was delighted. We booked this room a few days before our trip to get away from the entire family for just one night. Since we only had one rental car we just got dropped off in the evening. Our room had a lanai and faced the street which was cool because I could see the parrots that were on the street from my balcony. In the morning we were able to walk all around LaHaina and shop and eat. We stopped at the beach and dipped our toes in for a few minutes as well. They allowed for late checkout which was awesome because we were getting picked up. I would go back for another city-stay getaway.
Stayed here for the first night as we got in late from our flight from Vancouver. Front desk was great and very helpful on where everything was within the hotel. AC was noisy but this hotel is not exactly new so units are in the window. Very clean though and lots of charm. Would recommend for short stays. Great location to get started and visit the shops in Lahaina.
It is a older property but don't let that scare you. Comfy beds, good air conditioning and a great Happy Hour! All with a great view. Another plus no resort and free parking! We caught a Sunset Sail just steps from our hotel. Again great location.
Our 1st time in Maui was a welcome surprise. This was the start of our six week USA holiday. Spent 4 night and it turned out to be the perfect start to our trip. Highly recommend the Best Western Pioneer Inn in Lahania. It is situated right on the harbour. Cannot stress enough that you should try to book a room that has views of the Banyan Tree which is in the park opposite. All room have a generous balcony. All room on that side also have views of the Harbour. We had one room that overlooked the Banyan Tree park and one room that overlooked the pool and courtyard. All accommodation rooms are on the 1st floor. No elevators on the property. To access rooms you must climb a fairly steep set of stairs. (in my view). As I am a disabled traveler that uses a single crutch I was concerned that I would have trouble ascending the stairs but I was able to ascend and descend to do so with minimal inconvenience. I must say that the property would not be suitable to anyone the requires wheelchair access. Breakfast is available in a restaurant on the ground floor. Nightlife is only a short stroll away and enjoyable for for different ages. We never had a vehicle and this did not pose any probs. If you want to get around uber is cheap and available. There is also a central bus depot 1 block away. Would I come back to the Pioneer Inn, in a heartbeat.
Courteous experienced staff. Loved the staff at the bar and grill- they all are able to give great tips as to where to go and what to see. We loved the historical significance of this place! Rooms are clean- not really luxurious, but our room was comfortable and quiet. We faced poolside which is more quiet than the street side. Pool was clean and just perfect for a quick refreshing dip- especially because there is no beach access here. If you are looking for a place in the heart of the action in Lahaina - this place is for you!
The room was perfect for my daughter and me and the staff members were above and beyond helpful everyday! The location is perfect and we didn't need a car at all. Everything was basically right outside the door!
Mark, the manager, was wonderful. He made our vacation a real event. The location was 658 Wharf Street, Lahaina, HI. The hotel was charming and located in downtown Lahaina. The food and service at the restaurant was excellent and inexpensive. We took advantage of happy hour. Last year and this year we stayed at the hotel with our son and his wife -- two rooms overlooking the small town. We will return. James Funk
Very quaint rooms...great staff all around....and close to all the fun in La Haina. We stayed here because of the close proximity to the ferries. Everyone was friendly and accomodating including the restraunt. We did feel that the food was just average at best though. We would definately reccommend Pioneer Inn....and we would certainly go back.
The Pioneer is a bit dated (historical quirky) but it's clean, friendly and value priced. The room we had was a bit cramped but we lacked nothing and didn't spend time there except to sleep. The front desk people were very helpful and friendly. John was especially kind with helping us find a good local beach. The hotel is convenient if you want to explore the wharf, shops and restaurants in Lahaina. Take advantage of the discount they offer in the hotel restaurant and you won't find cheaper drinks in town during happy hour. There are no elevators and rooms are on the second floor so be warned if hauling your bags up stairs is difficult for you. The pool area is clean and hardly used. If you like a laid back atmosphere you'll like the Pioneer.
when leaving for the airport, my husband left his satchel in the lobby.. The receptionist took care of it until my son could pick it up and called our home # in Canada to leave a message that the bag was safe.. They went over and beyond their obligations for guests. We so appreciate the hospitality and care. and...location, location, location!!! perfect place to be ... ocean at your front door..... close to / in the middle of the town..re restaurants, things to see & do, shopping.. and even a photo op with parrots!! Best location in Maui!
Property is clean and safe in a great location in the heart of Lahaina. Entire staff went out of their way to ensure a great stay for my wife and myself. Kathryn and John at the front desk were especially friendly and helpful. Hotel located near several shops and restaurants and right across from the city park with a beautiful Banyan tree. Would definitely stay again
We loved the room (including Murphy bed for kids). The location was near shopping and many restaurants. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant as well. Easy access to an early morning ferry departure to Lanai (and Molokai).
Enjoyed our stay at this charming, historic hotel. Every employee provided excellent service and were all very friendly. The room was very clean and well appointed for a smaller space. We would definitely stay here again next time we are fortunate enough to travel to Maui! Wish we could go back tomorrow!
Until the 60's this was the only hotel in Lahaina. Nowadays the big resorts take most of the tourists but the Pioneer Inn still has some charm and evokes nostalgia and the old days. It was recently renovated and all the rooms have an AC unit and flat screen tv. They come with a considerably sized balcony, as well as coffee machine and bathroom amenities. Insulation is not great but on the other hand the streets in Lahaina are not that busy and the guests in the room next door were not loud. The hotel is right in front of the harbour. The beach is a few minutes away but don't expect a paradise like sand strip. No breakfast is included but you get a 15% discount in the restaurant (Pioneer Inn Grill and Bar). There are several shops including a convenience store in the same building. There's a swimming pool in the courtyard, but as far as we could see, almost nobody is using it.
This place is a beautiful hotel with wonderful balconies overlooking the hubbub of the street or quiet poolside. It is vintage and everyone is eager to help to make your stay the best possible. Don't expect all mod cons it is over 100 years old but it is a great glimpse into the past.
Wonderful little hotel with a welcoming, friendly staff. The rooms were small but comfortable. The a/c and fan did a good job of cooling from the outside swelter. No elevator but the hotel is old. Free parking in downtown Lahaina included. Having stayed here in the middle of town has spoiled me. I don't think I could stay in one of those hi-rise 'resorts'. I was afraid the noise would be too much but I had a courtside room and was not bothered the noise at all. The worst part was when the cruise ships landed and I could see friendly shopkeepers put on their 'tourist-friendly' smiles until the crowds departed.
Great historical setting. Rooms are very comfortable and your right on the water. Great surf break across from the hotel. You are right in the middle of town for walking access to restaurants and stores.
Wanted a reasonable priced hotel for my visit to Maui. This place with its history and flair fit like a glove. Ate breakfast each morning in the restaurant which was great and good service. Rooms are upstairs with no elevator (it is 100 years old after all). Room was small but fit the bill and cleaned well each day. Enjoyed waking up to the birds in the Banyon Tree Park next door each morning.
