"Good for one night"

The room was not well insulated, we heard loud guests very late and very early. Beds were comfy, breakfast was really good with variety. Location was convenient off of San Jose with parking spots outside.

"Mostly Good, B+"

The hotel is a beautiful 3 star (Costa Rica rating) hotel, the landscaping is amazing for in San Jose itself. The free breakfast is served in a semi-enclosed garden area and is excellent, the pool is huge and a heated Jacuzzi can hold about 12 people at a time, very nice. The rooms are clean and attractive. Top that off with an attentive and helpful staff you would think it was practically perfect. But a couple of minor drawbacks, the formerly free shuttle service to and from the airport is now got a modest $8 charge (taxi cost about $25), but is not as reliable as it should be. It didn't run when we needed to pick up our son at the airport (they missed their schedule) and we had to get an alternate service on very short notice, we were late picking up our son. Their bar and grill called

This is the best Best Western I have stayed in. The public areas are clean and comfortable; the gardens are beautifully landscaped; the breakfast was delicious; staff members are courteous and very diligent; and the rooms are spotless, with many amenities.

"Best Western Good location"

The best things about this hotel are the price and location. I don't gamble but there is a Casino next door. Near the heart of San Jose, you can catch an Uber (don't get me started!) to most points in the city. Rooms are average but the pool was clean. My room was literately a football field away from the elevator. Restaurant in the Hotel with a Dennys next door. Free parking. Business district. Everyone was nice.

Location: Within 15 minutes from SJO airport; they offer USD $8 shuttle one way. Very heavy traffic street in front of hotel. Little grocery & pharmacy next door and Subway sandwich shop across street. Denny's restaurant adjoining hotel. Also, Sangria restaurant located at hotel's lobby. There is also a restaurant (food is actually good) inside the casino located at lower level. Room: I would have preferred a room facing poolside. Nevertheless, our appointed room was nice, spacious, clean, comfy. My only comment throughout my entire stay is that the bathroom is beautiful, nice in design, but the rectangular showerhead is not functionally appealing (its got to go in my opinion). Not to mention, the shower stall is only half-glassed so water splatters all over the bathroom floor. The entire bathroom is practically drenched; I feel bad for housekeeping. Flatscreen tv has tons of channels ... yes including an assortment in english. There is a tiny box refrigerator filled with beverage but not cold at all. Not sure if this refrigerator is out of order or unplugged. The ice machines are on 2nd & 4th floors. Breakfast by far is the most awesome spread I have seen in any of my travels; served in nice indoor/outdoor patio near the pool. Beautiful fruit assortment display & fruit carvings. (Just a suggestion, perhaps cover the cut-out fruits with plastic wrap to prevent flies from landing on the fruits) There is also an omelet bar to custom order your eggs. They have made to order waffles, pancakes, or French toast.... but there is already so much food & variety of bread (all is made in the premises from scratch I was told). Due to the humidity, perhaps the butter should be in an ice tray or bucket; it was quite liquidy when we opened it. They have pastries, cookies, little empanadas, 3 hot items that changes daily including rice/beans, coffee/tea and juices. I would stay here just for the breakfast alone! Staff is excellent all throughout (from front desk to breakfast to casino)! Outstanding hospitality. Jack has a nice & congenial personality (he reminds me of Idris Elba the actor) and Ms. Ortiz was very professional, courteous, and accommodating. We were part of a sporting event that picked this hotel. Hope they pick it again next year.

The service and hospitality at The Best Western Plus Irazu was amazing. They have great accommodations whether it's a long or short stay. I ended up staying here for nearly three weeks with no complaints, except maybe that the room key stopped working a lot, however everything was great. A friend of mine asked me to come along with her for a “dental vacation” and the staff even catered to her the days after her surgery! Specifically the staff and fresh food prepared for breakfast made my trip that much more exciting!! They're accommodating hospitality was very welcoming. Even with language barriers all of the staff there are able to assist with your needs. A few of the employees there who were especially awesome were Mela, Dayana, Weslyn, Maik, Johnathan, and a lot more whose names I can't remember!! Thanks to this place with awesome people, I would give it 5 stars!!!!

"Good access to/from the airport"

Good choice for business travelers. Not a long ride to/from the airport in their cheap shuttle. Rooms are standard, a bit old but very comfortable sleeping. Breakfast is really good in buffet style with plenty of options.

"Flight cancelled - BW was the hotel for the night"

Flight was cancelled by UA and so they put us here for the night. The room was clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had to leave a 4:30am so didn't have time for much else. The shuttle to the airport was easy and quick

Can not say enough good things about this hotel.Well kept grounds,comfortable bed, and an unbelievable breakfast. The amount of different items on the buffet were many,the cooked to order omelet was great any the staff was super nice. I wish that Best Western offered this type of breakfast here in the USA.

Room was very comfortable ( specially bed/mattress), spacious and clean with a nice view over the gardens. It had all the amenities I needed.I enjoyed a nice light dinner and an excellent breakfast the next morning. I also like that my room was very quiet, despite the hotel being located close to center town. Staff was friendly and attentive I will choose this hotel again for future stays

"Convenient"

Well located and convenient would resume this hotel. The dinner was served in a restaurant next to the Lobby, was good. The breakfast was before 8 in another restaurant. The coffee was really average. But the rest was okay. The room we had was maybe a little bit old.

"This is a continuation of my review of the BW Irazu"

After several nights having to endure the BW Irazu, (please read my review of this hotel) we were finally moved to our rightful room on the BW Plus side. As I mentioned earlier, the BW Irazu and the BW Plus is the same hotel, separated only as a separate wing. There is a major difference between the '2' hotels. Again both hotels are in the same location, with the same front desk and same lobby, just a different wing that reportably has been recently renovated. This side of the hotel offered very heavy sliding glass doors to the balcony that reduced the outside noise which was very prevalent on the Irazu side. The rooms were somewhat updated, but still required new furniture, bedding etc. The 'mini bar' was a table top so-called refrigerator that sat on top of the desk, but was in no way cold - ever. The hallway and the rooms were much quieter than on the Irazu side. Our room overlooked the garden and pool which was kept clean. The seating at the pool however was the worst. You literally sunk to the ground upon sitting on the chairs or lounges. Unlike the Irazu, this room actually offered tissues in the room. There is only one chair in the room, so in order to watch TV (mainly Spanish broadcasting as expected) you had to sit on the bed. That became very uncomfortable. The elevators (2) indicated they held 5 or 6 people. Two people with luggage is about it. The location is actually pretty good. About a 5 minute ride to the National Stadium (soccer) About a 15 minute ride to the central Mercado and about a 20 minute ride (with no traffic) to the airport. Use Uber. It is much cheaper than the taxis. There is a small market within walking distance to buy water or drinks. The hotel charges $5. for a liter of water. Also on this side of the hotel, there is free WIFI, free limited breakfast at Denny's and coupon for a free drink in the restaurant adjoining the hotel (Sangrias). Limited English is spoken, so bring your translation phone apps.

Yes, you are right, both, the Best Western Irazu hotel and the Best Western Plus are both located at the Irazu Complex and they share the common areas. There is nothing more important for us nor that we want more, than to see our guests totally comfortable and satisfied so we strive to provide them with everything they might need, from very comfortable accommodations to excellent services (like our complimentary breakfast and our welcome drink among many others). Please accept our apologies that there was only one chair in your room and that the mini fridge was not cooling. We assure you that if you had let our front desk know about it, they would have immediately send another chair to your room and send a technician to fix the fridge because as we mentioned before, nothing is more important than your total comfort and satisfaction. We are also very sorry about the lounge chairs around the pool; we are going to let our Management know of how you kept sinking to the ground so that they can see to it immediately. This newly renovated property is delightful. The rooms are sleek and comfortable with great linens and super fast internet connection. The hotel is conveniently located, has a lively cantina and a beautiful breakfast service in a stunning garden lounge. A great option for a stay in San Jose. Just lovely.

"Dennys is the only good thing here"

Visited the hotel and went to the restaurant called Sangria, asked how their Nachos were.... they said excellent... they cam out and were horrible. Just very disappointing. Went to talk to hotel staff about room quality before I have business colleges arrive in town. Not helpful nor were they very friendly. Maybe they thought I was a hotel inspector. Decided I will put my staff in Park Inn instead.

"Very clean and well appointed hotel."

We stayed here for 7 nights and had a very enjoyable time. Rooms were clean and did not smell like smoke. Smoking allowed in parking lot only-yea! We received breakfast vouchers for either Denny's( limited menu but had what I wanted), the Sangria Cafe ( also good) or the Casino ( didn't have breakfast there). Staff was very friendly and spoke English well. The Casino has good food and reasonably priced. Would definitely stay here again.

"Good and Bad"

We stayed here for one night on both arrival in and departure from San Jose. We had also stayed at the hotel nine years ago for a few nights. We returned because our experience was positive the first time as it also was on our arrival stay this time. The departure stay, unfortunately, fell far short of expectations. The reception clerk had some difficulty understanding us (language problem?) and so the check-in process was lengthy. The air conditioner in our room immediately broke down. This, at least, was rapidly dealt with (a breaker problem). We were leaving early the next morning and so only wanted the in-room coffee. There was only one coffee pod and it took two separate requests before more coffee (not the correct type for the machine but usable) was delivered. There was no soap for the bathroom sink but by then we decided we could manage without returning to reception again.

We visited this place for the year end party, they offer great customer service and nice and clean rooms, very well location and great pool, they also have a climate controlled jacuzzi and a lot restaurant nearby

The position is good for people who wants to stay out of the caos of the city center. The structure is old, not that good especially the common areas. Rooms are definitely better than the rest of the hotel. Breakfast high quality!

We stayed here one night unplanned due to flight delays on our way out of Costa Rica (I mean it really wasn't a huge deal and come on there are much worse places to have to spend an extra day in) but we had a few transportation issues on our way to the hotel which we booked that moment on the spot and when we got there and got into a conversation about our “adventure” (I really really wish I could remember her name but it was a very long day I apologize)... anyway after hearing about our ordeal she completely bent over backwards and did everything in her power to make our lesson 24 hour stay absolutely amazing. ave us drink vouchers and breakfast vouchers (we did not use the breakfast vouchers seeing as we left at 4:30am, and ended our trip on such a positive note when our trip was amazing and really truly could have ended in such a crappy way instead the front desk staff totally came through times 10!!! Our trip ended with us checking in, dropping our bags in the room which was very nice, and then we went and had dinner at the bar (omg you gotta try the mozzarella onion rings... why do we not have these in San Diego sooooo yummy!!!) The front desk woman (so sorry I really wish I could remember her name (It was around 4-5pm on Thursday December 7,2017... if anyone from the hotel sees this please tell me her name because she really does deserve the credit for “saving” the last day of our trip and literally for making sure we got to the airport safely and on time at 5am the next day she was absolutely amazing!!!) She was so sweet wanting to leave us with a good impression of Costa Rica (which even with all of our last day trip bs I absolutely loved Costa Rica and highly recommended you get adventurous and visit farther down the Pacific Costa and go see Paritta, or Dominical or Uvita and honestly I'd book this hotel as my last hotel so your close to the airport if you have a morning or afternoon flight) all and all loved our stay here!

Check in went smooth the front desk staff were wonderful especially Mónica who went out of her way for me. The rooms were clean, coffe, strong wi-fi signal, and plenty of television channels available to rest a tiring body. Breakfast was very good in all three restaurants made to order. Plenty of things to do in the hotel if you did not feel like going out, especially the casino with their sports bar.

"Beautiful Grounds and Pool"

We stayed twice on our Costa Rica Vacation - the day/night we arrived and the night before our departure. We picked the hotel because they have an Alamo car rental agency right outside the lobby and we heard that is the best rental agency to use and also less money than renting at the airport. We were very pleased with our stay. Had a red eye flight and arrived at the hotel about 8:30 am and the staff was very accommodating. They tried to get us in the room early and checked us in about 1 pm. They stored our luggage and we were able to rest on lounges by their lovely pool. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and it was very relaxing - plus lucky for us the sun was shining. Th room was ok and could use some updating but basically comfortable. The first stay was very quiet, but the second stay was very noisy people partying all night long and the walls are thin. A pleasant surprise is coupons for Happy Hour drinks and breakfast in the morning. You have a choice of three on-site restaurants including a casino located downstairs. We also enjoyed their beautiful Christmas decorations!

Sira at the front desk was wonderful and caring. She worked out a way for me to keep my room even though the hotel was full. All this while being mobbed by impatient guests. She also got me the room of my choice later in the week. She recognized me and called me by name when I returned. She is amazing ! I think this is the best hotel rewards breakfast in the world. Only problem is the choice of restaurants close by is poor. Worth taking a taxi to the Fuego de Brasil if you want a super good meal.

Front desk: Sira was excellent and helped me with a problem on my Reservation. I spite of being mobbed with guests she always smiled and was pleasant. She also remembered me when I returned. Jaun Carlos whom I met in the Rewards members breakfast also was very friendly and introduced himself to me. I have traveled the world and this was the best breakfast of all.

Had the opportunity to go for an international robotics competition and this hotel served as host for many teams from around the world. the staff provided a good service and the installation are great. they have pool, two gyms and even two tennis courts. However the gym equipment needs some maintenance. it has a souvenir store, two restaurants and a casino. it's located about 15 min car from several shopping malls.

I've been to San Jose 38 times in the last 45 years and I prefer staying at the best western over any other hotel in town! The rates are reasonable, the property has a great landscape and the largest pools I've seen anywhere. The people are the most friendly out of any hotel I've been to in CR. I feel very at home there. I injured my leg when in was in town and they gave me special attention and tried to make my stay great despite the situation. I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling in that area and will definitely be back.

"Very nice hotel in general"

I stayed in the hotel for three nights. It has a very good location, from the hotel to downtown it takes around 10 minutes. The bed is big and comfortable. My friends and I especially loved the outdoor jacuzzi next to the swimming pool. The hotel was a bit busy with an event, but the staff was still very helpful and friendly. Dinner at Denny's is always awesome. We had early morning breakfast and then left to the airport for our flight. We took their shuttle that leaves every hour, even the driver was very friendly. I defiantly will recommend this hotel to my friends and will come back on our next trip to Costa Rica.

My stay started with a 30 minute wait to check in. Front desk incompetence. Then my room key did not work. So I had to go down to the front desk to get another. I went to the attached Denny's for something to eat. They asked if I had a meal coupon which I only had one that I was going to keep for breakfast. So I received the "pay yourself" menu. The prices were incredibly high. A grand slam was $15.00US. Steak and eggs were $30.00. So I ordered a small appetizer and a diet coke for $12.00. The next day I went down for my "free" breakfast. Completely different menu from the previous evening. I could have coffee or juice, but not both. I received one piece of bacon, one egg and hash browns that I could have cooked myself. I will never stay there again. I'll go down to the Sleep inn next time. John Rothwell

The staff was unfriendly and uncorporative. The internet was not working and even the hotel was empty they didnt care to give a better and decent room. Even I stayed in Best Western Jaco - the staff was very unfriendly and pathetic service.

What a pleasure, this hotel has brought myself and my friends over the years. I have stayed here for 25 years everytime I visit Costa Rica. The rooms are great, clean, all the amenities and very reasonable in price. It has a gym, pool, bar, casino and business center. The best thing about the Irazu are the people. They are like family and even after I moved to Costa Rica, I keep coming back to the Irazu for a night's stay because I miss that family feeling. You meet people from around the world, and staff treat you like royalty.

"Very comfortable hotel"

I've stayed at at the Best Western Irazu several times over the last few years. Very friendly, helpful staff at the front desk. If you're tired and don't want to take a taxi into San Jose for a restaurant, there is a Subway and Rooster Beer House right across the street. Also, a small mall with a great seafood restaurant on the first floor. Had a great meal at the bar & grill in the lobby, Sangria. Rooms were very comfortable with a great selection of channels on the t.v. Very quiet room with a balcony overlooking the pool. Free hot coffee in the lobby is always appreciated, especially very early in the morning heading to the airport or on a sightseeing tour. About a 15-20 minute ride to the airport or downtown San Jose and about 10-15 minutes to the Hard Rock Cafe. Great location, great hotel, great people. Can't wait for my next visit.

Rooms are old and date back to early 90s No plug for the coffee machine. Had to make a brew in the loo... No door on the safe either! Great if you are travelling on a budget as you can fit 6 people into a room. Nice staff.

Free shuttle from the airport now costs $8 per person. Foul smell in our first given room. No wifi in the rooms. No response to three calls to the front desk in a period of over two hours regarding the wifi.. We were given a new, non-odorous room and still no wifi. NO WAKE UP CALL in the morning. Pretty sure this was a passive aggressive response to our eventual complaints of the above. No 4 am shuttle in the morning as promised. We had to pay for expensive taxi - that just happened to be in front of the hotel... instead of the airport shuttle. No wake up call - So no free breakfasts. No wifi - no flight listing for us. We had to rent a car in Dallas because no wifi inhibited our ability to flight list 24 hours in advance. Bad service/Domino effect. Horrible experience with a trusted favorite. This Best Western has just gone downhill in the last three years... We won't be back.

This hotel has not changed in more than 10 years. It looks old and needs a real renovation. Rooms are clean, wi fi signal is weak. Denny's Restaurant is under renovation, so the breakfast is given in a big room. Gallo Pinto is served and eggs and some fruits.

I spent one night at this hotel. I reserved a room facing the pool as another reviewer had said those rooms were quieter. That's not the room I got. But I had unpacked and been in the room for awhile before I remembered that I had reserved a different room. It was ok, though. My room was pretty quiet. On occasion I heard noise from passing vehicles, but in general, it was quiet. Checking in was easy and painless. The woman who checked me in was very pleasant. She explained the 3 options for breakfast and gave me a coupon for a welcome drink. The gift shop is a Café Britt shop. I didn't go in, but it looked very nice. The room was a little outdated and worn, but it was very clean. The water in the shower got hot quickly, and the water pressure was good. The bath towels are HUGE! There is a guard in the parking lot. There is a small fitness center, a spa, a pool and Jacuzzi, and tennis courts. I didn't go into the casino, but there is a restaurant there. There is a also a restaurant by the front entrance. Denny's is accessible from the hotel. There is a Subway across the street.

This hotel has changed a lot. It used to be surrounded by working girls but it revamped its image and banned that type of activity. It has become a real family-friendly hotel with pools and spas. The service at the front desk is always friendly but being honest, the rooms are just rooms. Don't expect anything special.

"The Center of The Costa Rican Universe"

This hotel is valuable. It has a courtyard with a large pool and a jacuzzi, offers a massage parlor on site, I recommend the "mai thai" massage. The location makes it an amazing place to stay, not necessarily for looks or size, but for convenience. It's in the center of it all, just about 20mins from the airport. If renting a car, most rental places are close to the airport which makes picking up/drop off a breeze. Also, with a gas station right around corner, You can fill up tank and get on highway back to airport. They provide coffee in their computer room for guest at all times, their lobby is spacious and inviting, the reception is very attentive and extremely customer service oriented, they will do any to make your stay great and even pull strings for You should You need to schedule tours. Best of all, You can book exciting tours right there in the lobby and get picked up and dropped off right there after your tour(s). Upon booking You' ll get breakfast vouchers for each day from Denny's located right next to the hotel, as well as receive a coupon to the Concorde Casino next to the hotel. Lastly, You will get a free drink coupon to the Sangria, a typical Costa Rican restaurant and bar located at the entrance of the hotel that serves excellent Costa Rican cuisine, it's a great place to hangout and eat that is close to where You are staying. Across the street You will also find other place You can visit, like Subway's and other local restaurants.

Awesome first visit to Costa Rica. The BW Irazu proved to be a gem of a place to stay in San Jose and one in which I plan to return to. I found the entire staff friendly and helpful. Many speak english and all I encountered seemed to really enjoy interfacing with the guests. A special thanks to Stewart and Melania for an outstanding breakfast every morning. Daniel, the Bellboy, for his assistance and numerous recommendations. Also to Alberto, the BW taxi driver, for a great scenic tour of Costa Rica! Really can't say enough about the good people working at the BW Irazu, they really made me feel welcome.

A wonderful hotel, close to the airport in San Jose. Perfect hotel to begin your trip with a true Costa Rican feel. Lovely courtyard and pool. The breakfast was ample and typical. Lots of tropical fruit and juice to choose from. Bar on property frequented by guests and locals alike. Casino available if desired, but not obvious for those guests who don't want one.

"Average or poor when you get room facing the street.."

We "land" in this hotel because our United fly has 21 hours delay and this was for us quite disappointing experience... The hotel is good for one night stay but nothing else, but when you get room facing street you wouldn't sleep... I don't know the price but for such a worn out hotel is anything over 50 $/ nigh waste of money ... you could find better accommodation all around SJO

"Good hotel location just short distance from the airport"

Entire staff from the front desk to the housekeepers very friendly. Had a problem with my room safe- contacted the front desk and said they would take care of the problem.A short time later I received a call that they had someone outside my door to fix the safe. Appreciated the extra security. Prior to our arrival I had contacted the hotel about a transportation issue, which was handled by Marjorie Espinoza Guest Relations Mgr who also followed up with an e mail confirmation. Room was a premium room w a balcony facing the pool.Beds were very comfortable. Grounds were very nice, more like staying in a resort than a hotel. Daily breakfast buffet was very good with a nice selection of fruits, juices, cereals, hot items, bread and made to order eggs. Denny's restaurant on sight was good..Sangria Restaurant their food was good with a nice selection, the biggest downfall to this restaurant was two of the wait staff.One had no name tag the other Paloma, both were rude and had poor attitudes and no customer service skills. Next trip to Costa Rica I would definitely return to Best Western Irazu Hotel

We stayed here for a week for a taekwondo tournament. The hotel arranged our hassle free airport transportation which was nice. Although, they do cram as many people as they can into one van with everyone in seats. The hotel is a little outdated and the rooms do have a weird smell that seems to come from the restrooms. The beds are comfy, and the restrooms seem to be more modern than the exterior and hallways. Housekeeping came and cleaned our rooms and replaced the towels everyday even though we didn't place the door knob notice outside, which was appreciated. The hotel-provided shampoo is a 2 in1, which unfortunately never works well for us ladies. They also provide body soap and lotion. The rooms have AC which works well, the flat screen TV is nice and a good size. They also offer a safe, coffee maker with Britt coffee and hairdryer. The hotel free breakfast buffet was the best! With lots of fruit options, coffee, cereal, and a variety of hot foods and made to order omelete station, this was totally worth staying here! There are restaurants on site as well, Denny's and Sangria Bar. Dennys was EXPENSIVE! But the staff was friendly. Sangria Bar had descent food at average prices but unfortunately the staff could have been A LOT more friendly and helpful. The entire time we stayed here, we only had ONE good experience at the Sangria Bar where our server was extremely nice and attentive. The rest of the time, the servers would purposely ignore us even when we try to wave them down. And unfortunately, the hotel is so far from everything else (restaurant options), we had no choice but to dine here. The welcome drink coupons is also a nice touch!

Hotel was excellent and staff was very friendly and helpful. Denny's onsite was good and service good. Sangria Restaurant had good food. But they definitely lack in customer service skills and attention to the customers. Takes forever to get waited on, waitress staff (not all) are rude and bring an attitude to the table and bar.

Stayed at Best Western Irazu for a week with my daughter. We chose this hotel because of my daughter's tkd team stayed at the same hotel for the entire week. Our room was ok, not the best but good enough for us to stay the whole week. Beds were comfortable, cleaners came and cleaned our room, made our beds every day. The one thing I didn't like too much was that if you don't leave the AC on all day, by the time you come back to the room and turn on the AC, it gives a not so pleasant smell to the room. Not sure why or what caused the smell but I ended up leaving the AC on the entire time we were there to avoid the smell. I heard couple rooms had the same problem but worse, not too sure what happened to those rooms. Anyway, this review is about my stay and my room so I'll just leave it at that. The staffs at the hotel were nice, especially the ones at the breakfast. They were very attentive, brought out what we needed or asked for when there were none on the serving counter. Swimming pool was nice, although I didn't get to enjoy it but my daughter sure did.

"Nice hotel for the money"

We stayed in this hotel for our last nice in SJCR. We wish we could stay an extra night to relax from all the walking and hiking that you do in CR. There's a supermarket within walking distance. Free welcoming drinks are nice. And the sangria restaurant it's a nice place to have dinner at a fair price. Not so much Denny's very pricey and not the best quality. You also get a voucher for free breakfast at any of the restaurants we opt for sangria since we had a good experience for dinner but their breakfast is not their best. But overall experience was nice you fell safe and relax at this location.

"Great hotel - and not only as a stop over during arrival and departure"

We used the hotel as stopover during arrival and departure for our CR trip. However, the layout, the pool area, and the general amenities make this hotel a nice hotel to stay to explore more of San Jose. We did have a hard time finding the correct turn off from the highway. Maybe adding a bigger sign to make this easier.

Hotel is a little dated but overall we had a good experience. The shuttle service to and from the airport was great. It costs $8.00 per person but worth it. Breakfast at Denny's was limited but good. Would recommend this hotel for an economical place to stay.

1 night offered by American Airlines because of flight cancellation. Restaurant is good and the pool is nice. The room was a bit outdated, old tv and the bed need to be changed. There is also to much noise from outside and from other rooms.

The plus side of this place is it's location because is right between the city center and the airport. Also, something nice to consider is the 3 different option for breakfast. These restaurants offer really good food. My favorite is the Sangria, which offered Mexican and Costa Rican food.

"Nice hotel (but beware the free welcome drink scam)"

Our group stayed in the Best Western Irazu Hotel for one night. The rooms were nice and clean and the hotel is in a convenient location both for San Jose business/leisure and for the airport. But strangely the pool closed at 6 PM. And be careful about the "free welcome drink". The marquee in the lobby advertised a free welcome drink. When we checked in and inquired at the front desk, they told us they were out of the free drink tickets but we could ask for our free drink at the hotel's Sangria bar. The bar staff asked for our tickets but when we informed them the front desk was out, they called the front desk and then told us there was no problem in getting a round of free drinks and proceeded to serve us. Of course at the end, they charged us for these first round of drinks (which weren't cheap) since we couldn't furnish tickets. Not sure if the front desk was in on this scam but beware.

We had a great stay at this hotel. Nice bar and restaurant options in-house but close enough to down town for other options. Clean room and very friendly staff. We will for sure stay here again next time we can travel to Costa Rica.

It is a nice hotel we where there for 2 nights 3 days, the people at the front desk was so nice and friendly, the rooms where big and clean, the view was nice, they had a Spa, a big pool, jacuzzi, Gym and I played Tennis (I loved that), the restaurants where nice and they had 3 or 4 to choose where to go, I'm planning to go back next month. The only think where I would like to see an improvement is on the Bathroom area I don't know if they forgot to leave personal things for the guests or if they don't do that, but sometimes it's nice, in case you forget to pack a toothbrush or razors I don't know it was weird not to see those things there. To the girls who where at the front desk THANK YOU you where really nice and always smiling!!!

The rooms are fresh and very clean and spacey enough. But most of all I would like to thank the very helpful staff, everyone of them I met greeted me not only with a smile but sincerity, creating a very welcoming feeling. we stayed from 15/23 9 days on january, 2017first time visiting from san francisco california to costarica and we had a great time at this property staff are very helpful and friendly andrew is professional very thoughtful at the front desk ,casino is located at the lower floors and dennis restaurant just around the corner the great thing is that you can use the vouchers in dennis anytime of the day anyway gim is nice and cozy we planning comeback again with my daughter great place for family good resort definaly i will recommend this hotel

I stayed here for 1 night when first arriving in Costa Rica, hotel stands in lovely grounds with a very nice swimming pool, Jacuzzi etc. My room had a nice balcony but the actual room was rather tired.

"Hotel needs lots of upgrades"

I had a terrible experience in this hotel, first night the account started making a noise and had to move in the middle of the night. This morning had no hot water and had to shower in cold water not to miss my flight. What bothers me the most is the attitude of some of the employees. First morning did not get a wake up call and the lady at the desk instead of being apologetic said the red light in my phone os off so you must not have heard it, i was awake one hour before due to jet lag, the Dennys is under renovation, so forget about some good breakfast and other areas of the hotel are under construction

"Should be called Motel"

The only good thing about this hotel is the breakfast (which is provided by Dennys). The swimming pool water is freezing cold. The worse part are the rooms, these are really really filthy and you can hear everything from the room next door. Rooms are connected with a door so it lets you listen to any conversation, tv shows, sex from the other room. Sex!!!! I stayed there with my mother and around 8pm started hearing a girl wining and a dude screaming while having sex!!!!! Oh my freaking god!!!! Thank god I didn't bring my kids with me. It was so ackward that I had to put the tv on and turn the volume as high as possible to let it go. Don't go to this motel unless you are with a date....

We only stayed at this hotel one night but found the accommodations to be more than adequate. The facility was clean and the staff very friendly. The swimming pool and hot tub was beautiful. There is a small casino on site. The restaurant "Sangria" offered good food. The service on the other hand was not so good! Once the order was sat on the table - there was no more contact and trying to get their attention to request service proved very frustrating.

"Typical Best Western experience"

We decided to stay here for one night before we flew home because it was closer to the airport and the pictures of the pool looked good. Check in was easy and we were allowed to check in early since our room was ready. Unfortunately, our room was one of the outside facing rooms so our view was looking into another apartment building and not of the pool and gardens. It was your typical Best Western type room with 2 double beds. After staying in Laguna Lodge in Tortuguero and Lomas del Volcan in La Fortuna, the room seemed small. As with all of the hotels we stayed in, the room also had a small safe so that was nice. We stayed on the 3rd floor and the ice machines had been removed from the floor so we had to go to the 2nd floor to get ice. We decided to go outside for a bit and visit the Parque Metropolitano La Sabana, which was only about 3km away, but there is no safe way to walk there as there are no sidewalks on the main highways. We took a cab there for $3 and a return cab for $4. As I said, our room didn't face the pool so when we got back and decided to have a drink, we sat on the balcony off of the computer room since there were two chairs and a table there. The computer room with printer was nice, but I had to laugh as they all had international keyboards and everyone that came in from US didn't know how to type the @ symbol. Unfortunately, there were thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening so we didn't get a chance to try out the pool. One of the nice perks about this hotel is that you get a complimentary drink the day you check in if you use it before 7pm at Denny's or at Sangria's. Also, breakfast is included, but since we had to leave for the airport at 5am we would miss it. The nice thing was that Denny's is open 24 hours so we got breakfast there at 4:30am. They have a set menu (2 items) for the complimentary breakfast. Still, it was nice to get a breakfast as most other hotels we would be out of luck. The shuttle to the airport ($8/person) was promt and got us there quickly.

Also, they would have been more than happy to help you with the keyboards in the computer room. "Room Not Cleaned"

Arriving in our room found it a mess. Beds were not changed and dirty towels were still in the bath tub. They were first just going to change the sheets and get clean towels until I said that we needed a different room. We got another room - it had been cleaned but smelled stale. Oh well, a place to sleep for the night.

My fiancé and I stayed here before heading to La Fortuna and Jaco Beach. Pretty decent hotel nothing spectacular. The rooms were clean. There was a nice outdoor pool. The staff was very friendly. Great hotel for the price.

Been coming to San Jose for 17 years and over the last five years the crew here has been the best yet! In particular paula and Andre at the front desk and Norma in reservations do such a great job, always courteous and friendly. The only thing that would make this location better would be a heated swimming pool and a buffet breakfast! "Very Average Stay at Large Hotel Chain"

We stayed one night before heading out to the Caribbean coast. It took a while for the shuttle to arrive. We had booked using Ecoterra Costa Rica and we're told that the driver would be waiting for us with a sign with our names on it on each we passed through customs. We were out by 8:30 PM and waited until 9:30 PM or later for our shuttle. With advice from the locals, we were told to wait on the opposite side of the street. It's a good thing we did or we would have missed any other shuttle coming by. Not sure if this is the fault of the hotel or tour company, but this was frustrating and could have been better communicated to us. This is a typical Best Western, good service from the staff, enough toiletries.. The room we stayed in was stuffy and we had no hot water for a shower after our flight. The following morning, still no hot water. A plus was the breakfast voucher provided, which could be used at anytime. We had our breakfast at Denny's at 10:30 PM at night. I was happy enough to have this hotel stay included in our tour package. For future trips, I would likely book at another hotel.

I was in room 369, which didn't have the greatest view, but the room itself was always well kept, but had a stale odor. The Desk Staff, (especially Monserat & Dai ana) were the best part, as they were always helping and had to time to address any issues I had experienced The internet is very slow, and the water is not warm enough for me. The location is reasonably close to the airport, and has a few nearby places to eat. ( Denny's and Sangria are places located on site, and there is also a Subway, and local eateries just down the street. I gave this hotel a 4 mostly because the staff is very helpful in supplying information, otherwise it would be a 3.5 This is my 3rd stay here, and I would come back

I went here with my gf, the attention was good, the room had a TV, a bathtub, a little coffee maker and the bed was comfortable. The hotel has a swimming pool and a lot of restaurants nearby. Even that the experience was good, for a couple it's not really a great place, there are another ones a lot better, it's more like a business trip hotel.

Delta put up our family here due to a canceled flight back to the States. The hotel had a very pretty pool area, clean and updated rooms, and two restaurants. There is a Denny's restaurant and a bar called Sangria for food options. I would stay here again if I had to . . .

"Nice hotel but has its problems "

This hotel is very nice. The staff is very friendly and the food is excellent. The rooms are a bit small and smell old like dust and will give you an instant headache. The wifi is absolutely horrible if your room is on the far end of the hotel. I definitely recommend the hotel but if you plan to use wifi, get a room close to the lobby or you will not be happy.

Nice hotel. Nice pool and outdoor hot tub. Decent gym. Don't eat at Denny's (overpriced and not worth it) but the sangria restaurant and the casino both have good food. The rooms are ok, not a fan of the carpet or the fact that there's no fridge in the room but overall room is clean

"Well appointed, clean, comfortable..."

Have heard of folks getting great prices here and ours was pretty darn good too. Loved having coffee in room; great bed, pillows, sheets and towels; large soap and shampoo dispensers with hair dryer is a must. Location was our biggest thing and we were close too all things big and small. Breakfast and cocktail tickets were a bonus as well. Could use these tickets at Denny's or the hotel restaurant and bar, we selected Denny's. Not a complete menu selection but the complimentary breakfast menu was sufficient for our breakfast needs. Free parking had a big part in our making this selection. Main thing for me too is how great and accommodating the staff was. Not under foot at all but right there when need be. We even had to cut our trip short by a day and they refunded the change without question! Could not have imagined that type of professional service but was certainly appreciated. Oh, we managed to enjoyed the hot tub pool area and coffee/internet office area and free wifi in the room. I did note there was a spa, casino and workout room but did not get the opportunity...next time!

If this facility is close to your area of action in San Jose, don't hesitate. Location is particularly relevant in San Jose, as traffic there is one of the worst in Latin America. I guess this is due to the very old street system they have there. Trust me on this one. Best Western Irazu is an old facility, but decently maintained. Nothing fancy, keep that in mind. No mini bar, not even the possibility to make charges to your room. It must been a success in the 80'. The gym sucks, the equipment is really old. The running tread mill had a "maintenance note", but it was written by ancient costa ricans.

This hotel is in a great location. Was very clean and comfortable. Casino on lower level was great also. The only complaint I had was being awaken at 6am by a marching band playing loudly in the courtyard for 30 minutes. Hotel should have alerted guests so to not be startled at that early hour. Otherwise the hotel is great.

Very nice property , the staff is very friendly , Jesus Mendoza and Audrey at the front desk made us feel at home and they resolved any issues with a smile . Overall this hotel is in a good location , secure there is always a staff member walking around the premises which gives you a sense of security . I will return to this hotel next year. One thing I will like to add is that the breakfast is included which is good however the menu is very limited for those with a voucher , but it was still good as far as portion and taste????????????

We only stayed one night between arriving from London and then heading on elsewhere in CR. The advertised shuttle is infrequent so call the hotel to check times. A $25 cab preferable to over an hours wait. Room and on site restaurant ok after a long flight. Breakfast being available before a 0600 pick up a bonus.

As soon as we arrived the service was great and attentive. The pool view was very nice and it was easy to find our way around the hotel and restaurant area. The breakfast included was great and saved us money, everyone treated us great! The pool area was very nice. The airport transportation was free and the staff was friendly!

"Nice but a little outdated"

This hotel looks great on the outside and within the lobby but the rooms are old and dated. Our room smelled kindof musky when we opened the door but once the air conditioner was on, the smell went away. The beds are comfortable and the wifi in the rooms seemed strong. I wish there was a coffee maker in the room so I didn't have to get up, dress, and walk to the lobby. The bar and casino were very nice and the food was average.

We stayed our final night here, the check in was smooth and we visited the casino. We soon discovered the perks the hotel offered was not up to par for a Best Western, it was clean and nicely decorated, every room had a pool view and the grounds were well maintained. We booked this hotel as there was a free shuttle to the airport, they failed to say the "restrictions" they only went early morning we left at 11am...no shuttle. We didn't qualify for the welcome drink as it was only between 4 - 7 pm we arrived at 6:30....no welcome drink. Wont stay again.

We booked a room here because we had an early appointment at Migracion which is only 5 minutes away. We were very surprised & pleased by the interior of the hotel. The rooms were clean & spacious & the staff very friendly. We were given vouchers for a welcome drink & breakfast. You could choose where you wanted to have your drinks & breakfast. We had a light dinner at Sangria & it was fine & reasonably priced. Breakfast at Denny's was good. There is a grocery store next door but no refrigerator in the room. The property is older so somethings are a little dated. We will stay here next time we have business in the area.

Our tour group stayed at this hotel the first and last nights of our tour. The first night we arrived very late at night after many hours of traveling and it was good to be able to grab a quick bite to eat at the attached Denny's restaurant. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. Ours looked onto the centre court, which was quite relaxing. On our last night of the tour, we took advantage of the laundry facilities and were able to wash and dry our clothes (very helpful after the beautiful hot and muggy days on tour). Both washer and dryer are coin operated and they have two small tables with chairs that you can sit at and play cards or read or relax. The Denny's restaurant had a separate menu for those on tour, which had our breakfast and dinner included. This one had smaller portions (though still quite acceptable) and fewer choices (though still quite good). On the last morning, we treated two of our Costa Rica friends to a breakfast and they chose from the regular menu. Breakfast for them had larger portions and the combined cost was US$45. There is an ATM machine on the main floor beside the front desk, though we were never able to get it to work properly for us. We kept getting error messages. This hotel is close to main highway access so it is a good one to stay at if your adventures are taking you to other parts of Costa Rica.

"Definitely Underrated as a hotel option...."

I traveled to San Jose for a long weekend with two friends. I picked this property because of the great price that was offered as part of a vacation package on JetBlue. The pictures depicted a modest, well-kept resort. Upon arrival, this is exactly what we found: a more-than-modest, well-kept, smaller resort!! We were Very happy with the facility, and the extreme friendliness of the staff. Although the hotel is older, it is going through a very discrete renovation at present. I didn't even notice until my buddy pointed out the workmen, and we heard some minimal noise one evening. The grounds, building, and rooms are Very clean. Also, there are several onsite dining options: Sangria Restaurant on the main level, the casino restaurant/bar downstairs, and Denny's. The food at the restaurants was inexpensive to moderately priced, and very good at Sangria. While Denny's was unusually higher priced than normal compared to the US, the free breakfast vouchers from the hotel were very handy, and were usable anytime. The hot tub and pool were also immaculately maintained. There is a gift shop and tour office just as you enter the hotel. In fact, the front desk actually booked the two hiking tours which we did, after the regular tour operator left for the evening. That was very convenient! My friends got a room which faced the pool and gardens, and was nice. However, I had room #483 on the other side of that wing, and my balcony had a gorgeous view of the mountains, city, and sunset! The balcony itself was very roomy, and was a nice place to sit with a drink at night, and gaze at the lights from the city. My only minor complaint is that gym is a nice size, but could use updated equipment. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this hotel. Taxis are plentiful out front (Alberto is really nice) and Edgar (from the front desk) had the hotel shuttle meet us directly at the airport upon on arrival. When I return to San Jose, I will definitely stay here again!

I'm back for a 2nd time in two weeks for dental work.I'm here at Best Western Izura for 4nights. I must say this place is underrated and should be 4/5??Hotel.Upon arrival &check in,they give you a complimentary drink voucher good at there Casino,Denny's,or the restaurant called Sangaria here on property.They also give you vouchers for breakfast for however many nights your there.In my case 4 vouchers also good at either restaurant of your choice. You get these vouchers by getting the "Premier"rooms.Everything from gift shop to grocery store and other restaurants are within 50ft away.Great location,nice staff,super clean rooms,clean white linens, and comfortable beds.I have to come back in few months and yes I will be staying here again.??

This hotel has internet and restaurants. It's an easy taxi ride from the airport and it was affordable. It's nothing to write home about but it serves it purpose. I landed, took a $23 taxi here, ate, slept and went on my way. I recommend this place.

The rooms are very comfy and loved the the view towards the pool. Even during the hottest day you can just relax at the balcony and enjoy the view. The amenities were perfect and I am very glad that they have extended the list of choices for breakfast. Also there is a breakfast special menu to be ordered only though room service. Overall I had a pleasant experience and would recommend this hotel.

I stayed here with a group of students on a community service trip. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the pool is very nice but the hot tub wasn't working and will probably be fixed on Costa Rica time (meaning someday not too near in the future!) We a te at the Rooster Bar and Grill across the street - good food. The neighborhood is kind of sketchy so we didn't walk around a lot, but there's a little supermarket very close where you can get anything you need. There's also a Denny's right at the hotel which was very convenient for breakfast. The WiFi works well in half the building but not so great on the other side. The gift shop employees are super nice. All in all it was a positive experience.

The room was very comfortable, and quiet. The Staff was excellent, and the location was good, close to a variety of restaurants. It has a pool and a fitness center. and the hotel does currency exchange. There is a also nice bar there to socialize and watch sports

This was a fabulous hotel! It is especially perfect for families. My 4 boys enjoyed the pool, hot tub and basketball court. There was a workout center and a laundry facility. The Denny's next door was the best Denny's I've ever been to! There was a grocery store next door that had all the great Costa Rican coffee. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Room felt very welcoming, and cozy. It was clean, and there was a bathtub. In the hotel was a choice of restaurants, and also some within walking distance. There is a nice gift shop, as well as pool, spa, jacuzzi, tennis, gym. Many nice amenitites, and not far from hotel (20-60 min depending on traffic). Friendly staff and easy check in and out

The hotel is very clean and well maintained. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Recommend this hotel. The hot tub was the best just make sure you know what time they put the heater on. Pool is not heated and was too cold for us to go in and enjoy. The landscaping was impeccable as the workers worked very hard in keeping it maintained. They too were very friendly. The housekeepers were very prompt and kept the rooms clean and made up when you returned. They have a recliner in the room which my husband loved. Each room also has it's own balcony to sit out and listen and watch the birds. There was a pair of parrots that visited the big tree often. They were fun to watch.

We stayed for one night as we were flying out of Costa Rica. The rooms are clean and the beds very comfortable. Our room was quiet. It was hard to get the airconditioning to the right temperature as there is no thermostat. And the airport shuttle was not running during the day when we needed it.

The Best Western here is quite pleasant. The pool area is gorgeous, beautifully landscaped with rocks and palm trees. There are a number of places to eat all around this area, as well as some shopping (souvenir shop in the lobby) and museums.

Nice hotel, good service. Good for people who need a descent place to stay during their trip. They have pool, laundry service and bedrooms are good. They have a bar zone where you can enjoy during night and meet people. I do recommend this hotel.

my family of four stayed the night before departing from the international airport near San Jose, Costa Rica. staff were very friendly and helpful, the hotel was very clean, the pool and jacuzzi were very nice, the safe lockbox in the room was helpful and the parking was convenient. The hotel would be great for the first 1-2 nights after arriving in San Jose and/ or just before departing

"Short Visit, but nice"

I stayed at the Best Western Irazu for one night with a large group of school kids. The hotel was a great hotel to acclimate the kids and adults to a different culture. The open air lobby was awesome. The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The room were on-par with what you would expect. (2-3 star hotel in America. Plenty nice for our purposes.) I was impressed with the safety at the hotel as well.
