Castle Green Hotel In Kendal, BW Premier Collection

My 2 friends and I shared a room here. It was very clean and spacious. There were snacks and tea available in the room--a very nice touch. The staff could not have been friendlier. We plied them with questions about the area, and they were exceedingly helpful and patient. We did not eat breakfast here as it was quite expensive and not included with our stay. Parking can be a problem as there are limited spaces at the front door and a tight squeeze to maneuver under the awning. There are more spaces down the hill in front of Alexander's Pub.

Had the pleasure of staying here this week. Its awesome!!! Our room was immaculate, spacious and comfortable. The power shower certainly wakes you up! There is a TV, hair dryer and iron, ironing board, trouser press in the room!! The hotel is tucked away in beautiful gardens with a nature trail at the rear of the property. There are spa, gym and pool facilities that are provided. The pool is well worth a visit. Now let's get down to the serious subject of food! Yum yum yum! The Greenhouse offers fine dinning options, for a more relaxed meal they offer bar food..... Don't be fooled this is good quality tasty grub! The other option is Admirals bar, that is anything but pub grub, the food is well cooked and locally sourced. We opted for the gamon and lamb dishes washed down with one of the local beers. The lamb dish was excellent and very filling. And a big shout out to all the staff we met during our stay, you were warm, friendly and helpful. Thank you for making our stay a memorable occasion.

Our group was here for a conference and we stayed here too. First off, the reception staff was most helpful and courteous. I took the red eye flight to Manchester. It helps that I could get a room early without waiting for the normal 2 pm check in. They serve a superb breakfast with a spread that you will be spoilt for choice. Great room to stay. Our meeting room overlooks a beautiful garden. I will not hesitate to recommend this hotel for both business and/or pleasure. Kendal town centre was a mere 20 minutes walk from the hotel.

We stayed here as a couple and it's situated just outside of Kendal in beautiful hilly grounds. Check-in was quick and friendly and the room was pleasant. Our room unfortunately faced a mound towards the rear of the hotel. Although generally clean, the white net curtain was covered in black mould. We asked this to be changed at reception but unfortunately our request was not acted upon. The gym and swimming pool were decent and breakfast was very tasty, served in a lovely room looking out onto the grounds. A very nice country hotel!

We needed a room after plans fell through so had to stay here. Comfortable bed, clean room, hot shower.... all good! Had very nice meal in restaurant (the greenhouse) although slightly dated with the tiny serve of lamb!! Great mushroom soup. Good cheese board.

We have visited the Castle Green Hotel on numerous occasions and once more found it to be as good as ever. We had a beautiful front facing suite overlooking the garden and Kendal on this visit. Breakfast and dinner were once more up to their usual high standard. We find the hotel is very handy for stops when driving the M6 or for visiting the Lake District and Kendal .

love this hotel, always great service, great food both in Alexander's and the restaurant. Staff are amazing always a warm friendly welcome. Rooms lovely and clean. Planning our return visit already and only just left.

We have stayed here a few times and always enjoy the experience. Spotless rooms, friendly staff, good choice of food. Plenty to choose from at breakfast time and lovely location in the Greenhouse restaurant overlooking the well kept gardens. The lounge bar serves a good choice in the evenings. We always notice that few people eat in the Greenhouse restaurant at night, perhaps overpriced? The Alexander pub is much better and at the same premises. We loved our stay in spite of the 3am false fire alarm! Always a good feel during the day as there are often conferences/meetings in the separate rooms. Those attending can use the hotel facilities. We were only booked in for one night as on our way to meet friends for a few days away. Our room was pleasant, clearly 2 weddings had booked all the rooms with beautiful views (I don't blame them, stunning) which meant we looked out of the rear of the hotel.....room was quite dark & so a tad less appealing on what was a scorching, sunny day, so we only really went there to shower, change & sleep. Room was clean with good facilities, but any stay would be enhanced by being in a room with a view. Gym was well equipped & easy to access. 'Pub' had a nice setting & food was good. Staff helpful across the board. Pleasant stay.

We stayed in Castle Green for a couple of night with friends. It's a pretty hotel located a bit far away from the city center. The breakfast was really good: it's all you can eat with a broad variety of dishes. Great start of the day. Oh, and they also have a swimming pool there. We liked it!

4 night stay in this very pleasant hotel. Comfortable and well appointed room overlooking the gardens, the castle and the town of Kendal beyond. Good leisure facilities. Welcoming and highly professional staff. All meals were excellent. Would plan to stay at this hotel again.

I stayed at this hotel whilst attending a 5 day conference. I spent 4 nights in the hotel and, I have to say, it may well have been the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! The hotel is clearly very experienced at hosting conferences. Everything ran very smoothly and the staff were so helpful with technical errors. The food was delicious and the staff in the restaurants were very friendly. I think my favourite features of this hotel were the incredible views from the garden as well as the delicious free tea and biscuits that were restocked every day! Comfortable room, helpful staff, absolutely fabulous a la carte dinner and great continental breakfast. Stay only let down by batch cooked English breakfast which was dry and overcooked by the time it had been under the lights for too long. Breakfast cooled to order would cure that but you would need more than one cook on duty so I suppose it's not going to happen! Otherwise, everything perfect.

Just returned from a 2 night stay here and we were most impressed. Room was fine, nice comfy bed, plenty of charge points for electricals. Pool and steam room were lovely, as appeared the gym although we didn't partake, it appeared to be very popular. Wherever we went, reception, Greenhouse restaurant, Alexanders restaurant, Pulse fitness area, staff were exceptional, friendly, helpful, makes such a pleasant change these days, they had all clearly been trained in customer relations and satisfaction

This a fantastic hotel, really modern and friendly. Our room was newly renovated and the bed was very comfortable. The whole room and hotel was immaculate. The hotel is also close to Kendal but we chose to eat at Alexander's next to the hotel and this was very nice. We paid extra for breakfast when booking and it's well worth it. Excellent choice and professional service. We will definitely be returning in the future but will probably upgrade or request a room with a view as we looked onto the car park.

The best day of our life! As cheesy as it sounds it really was, and that was thanks to the venue and our guests! From the minute my husband booked this venue we were made to feel so special. My husband booked this location without telling me, total surprise and I was not disappointed. We have always loved the lakes and it has many memories for us. The venue is incredible and thanks to the weather we were able to be married outside, stunning. All our guests said it was the best wedding they had been to and all complemented the food. The portions were so big, we were married at 1pm and the evening buffet as beautiful as it was, was hardly touched because everyone was so full. Can not thank the staff on the day enough, Christine kept them all in line but they were all truly amazing. Christine you were great! Gary the dj, Carmen for the flowers, Iceing on the cake for the cake. Rachel for the photography totally amazing but that's a different review. The one person I really want to thank for making this day so special, the run up so smooth and the overall planning is Nicola. You were so lovely from the first day we met you. You made us feel so relaxed and at ease. The wedding from booking to getting married was 6 months, however this wasn't a problem for you and that made it no problem at all for me. You are a lovely person and a credit to the hotel and I honestly think I would not have enjoyed the planning or the day so much if you had not been the wedding coordinator for our special day xxxx

This is a beautiful hotel in a glorious setting. The rooms are gorgeous. Ours was refurbished recently, it was understated and elegant, with every comfort taken care of. The food, whether it's in Alexander's or the main hotel is sublime, so much attention to detail and seasoned really well. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We had the loveliest stay here, making it our base for touring The Lakes. This is the view from our room.

We decided to have a short break at the hotel and were not disappointed. Our room was lovely, the breakfast, the food, the service, the staff and the spa all excellent, we had such a relaxing and memorable time. Will certainly visit again very soon.

The hotel on arrival is in a beautiful setting however my good impression of the hotel was short lived when we discovered at the reception that the steam room I'd been looking forward to using was out of order this was one of the main reasons for booking the hotel. Our room was lovely and my husband was able to stream the football so we settled in well until I came to use the shower and found a towel covered with brown marks, it was quickly replaced by a friendly staff member but I do feel this should have been something that was picked up before we arrived. We decided to stay in the hotel to eat and were able to get a table after a short wait. The food at the greenhouse restaurant was delicious however the service we received cannot live up to the same standard. After being seated it took nearly twenty minutes for someone to take our order and then another 40 minutes for it to arrive. We had a couple drinks during this time and complimentary bread none of our empty plates or glasses were ever removed from the table. Two members of staff also tried to give us food that wasn't ours and when it came to the bill we got sick of waiting and went to the desk to pay, my husband complained at this point. Other small details I felt let the hotel down were no toilet roll in the ladies and pillows in the rooms weren't particularly comfortable. Our experience of the hotel the next morning, however, was very good. The staff in the leisure facilities are excellent they were helpful and really looked like they were enjoying their work. I also had a massage in the green rooms with Zoe. She made my spa experience peaceful and relaxing my favourite part of the stay.

We had our wedding here on the 18th August and from start to finish it was the most perfect day. We felt well looked after by each and every staff member as so did all our guests. Every details was perfect and nothing was too much trouble. They even put a cask ale on in our function rooms when my husband had mentioned the night before that a lot of guest like that sort of beer. The food was amazing a lot people commented saying our great it was too. They is nothing I would of change about the day I would high recommend this venue for a wedding or even just to stay in for a couple of nights. Arrived to a road which sweeps up to the hotel like a country club. First impressions are very good.. Swift check in and an ample sized room. Note that some have been refurbished and some have not. The refurbished ones just have a shower cubicle and the un-refurbished have a bath. The hotel itself is large, clean and modern. The beds were uber comfortable and the staff worked hard and made time for you when needed. The food in the Greenhouse Restaurant is really knockout. Make sure you try it once at least. It's about a 20/25 min walk down to Kendal town centre (uphill coming back) so not too bad for the fit and able. The grounds are very well kept and there are numerous places to sit out and enjoy the country air if the weather is good. I try to balance my reviews with good and bad but am struggling for any constructive criticism.. the drinks at the bar are expensive but hey, that's the way with every hotel (and there's Alexander's pub/bar next door). They didn't have my first choices of merlot red wine or Aperol Spritz. The replacement recommendations for the red wine were spot on though and the cocktail list is a good one. Overall, a great choice if you're hotel hunting for Kendal or the surrounding areas. Please contact me if you need any more information - happy to help!

My wife and I stayed Saturday and Sunday night paying a total of £380 including breakfast and I expected more from this 4 Star hotel. The bed and pillows were not very comfortable and there were meagre offerings on the TV channels. I would put the breakfast fare at Premier Inn level and I found the buffet counter cramped and awkward. We had dinner both in the hotel and at Alexanders and both meals were fine as were the staff.

A lovely hotel with nice gardens. Also walkable to Kendal town centre. Ate in the adjoining pub first night. Food was reasonable as were the prices. Breakfast is extensive but a little slow getting staff attention to order from the menu(porridge and haddock). Nice sized pool and gym. All the staff were lovely and helpful. I'd recommend it.

Great location (although out of the town), beautiful grounds. Restaurant food and service both first class, if a little on the expensive side. Loved the fact that so much of the menu was sourced locally, down to the organic milk at breakfast. Staff all very nice, mostly local people.Just a small thing but fresh milk in the room on arrival rather than UHT, more in keeping with the hotel.

Kendal for instance is only about 20 minutes drive from the Lake District's Windermere. My ultimate destination was the other side of Carlisle and I elected to break the journey by staying the night at Kendal - 252 miles and a 5 hour drive from home. I spent very little time in researching suitable hotels and pretty rapidly homed-in on the 4-Star Best Western "Castle Green Hotel". Bingo! Great choice. Everything about it suited me down to the ground. It was busy - enhanced by the presence of many Japanese tourists (who may well have stopped off at Bicester Village on the way up so as to cash in on its discounted designer labels). My modern room (#222) was the perfect fit - a double for single occupancy: arguably a bit tight for two, more particularly for more than one night. Compact but, like Venus de Milo, very well formed. Everything in it not only worked but worked well. Any gripes? Only a particular pet hate of mine, those anti-theft coat hangers that clang away and resist every effort to be released from their connectors. Like plastic bags, I would be happy to see these blighters done away with. My night's sleep was pure bliss - thanks to the good mattress and quality bed linen. The high tech reading lamp and equally high tech bedside clock were just as considered as the other in-room and in-bathroom ancillaries: cookies; local mineral water; tea & coffee; safe; flat screen television, writing desk and decent bathroom amenities. Breakfast, by way of variety, 'covered the waterfront'. The many front-of-house staff, with whom I came in contact throughout my short stay, were faultless to a tee. I will be posting, separately, a review on my outstanding supper in the property's "Greenhouse Restaurant". The Castle Green Hotel may be rated a 4-Star property but it is unequivocally very high end in the 4-Star galaxie.

The hotel itself is nice with lovely gardens. Upon entering the garden view room we were surprised at how small it felt, especially the tiny shower. Directly opposite the lift meant we were woken in the morning 2 days running. The garden view was ok but not worth the uplift in price in our opinion. I asked if other rooms were available to move into but no other rooms were available and was just left with a like it or lump it attitude. For 3 nights we just accepted the room for what it was. On the plus side, the tv is big, fan was provided and the refreshments left were great. Small details like crack in sink, marks on ceiling and the most annoying toilet flusher ever totally let down this room but i suppose thats wear and tear. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic and the service friendly and superb, always seated promptly and polite servers. Food was of good quality and alot locally sourced. The spa facilities looked good and a great gym there, though busy at times. As for food, the restaurant on site was simply superb but thats a seperate review. We wasnt impressed with the pub outside for price and food. Overall castle green deserves the 4 but there are improvements to be made. Happy holidays Lee

Stayed for only one night, Friday 10 August. Would have loved to stay longer! Check in friendly and efficient, no problem parking near the hotel entrance. Our room on the second floor was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. Room not huge but adequate, large TV, lovely bedding, fluffy towels, hanging and drawer space, tea making facilites. Had a quick dip in the lovely pool before dinner, massage jets in the pool and a great steam room too. Dinner was fantastic, we are foodies and we couldn't fault it! We chose the tasting menu which was excellent value, all the food was well cooked and presented, the lamb was outstanding! We had a brilliant night's sleep, disturbed quite early by early risers opening and closing their doors. There was a coach party in the hotel that was departing at 8am, in my experience sleep is almost always disturbed by something when staying in a hotel so nothing you can do about that except go to bed earlier! Breakfast the following morning was excellent, plenty of fresh fruit, full English breakfast cooked by a friendly chef and some lovely breads. The staff in this hotel seem very happy in their work, this results in happy guests! Had a quick walk round the grounds, very well kept with many different plants, as opposed to the usual 'car park planting' seen in hotel grounds. Keep up the good work Castle Green Hotel, we'll be back!

A really nice hotel with good facilities in a nice location stayed for 2 nights for a mini break and I have to say the staff from the reception to the waiters and waitresses to the guys in the gym were absolutely fantastic what a great team . The breakfast was fabulous and a great choice of full English to continental with fruit juices and lovely teas and coffees..had a enjoyable stay .. Well done

Stayed here for a couple of nights as part of my birthday celebrations and we were not disappointed. Rooms are very clean, spacious and well presented. We ate both in the lounge and at Alexander's and couldn't fault the food or service in either. It was beautiful. The choice at breakfast was plentiful and included everything from pastries, yoghurt, fruit and cereal to a full cooked breakfast buffet. Fantastic. We made good use of the pool and steam room and had looked forward to having some spa treatments, but it was fully booked. If you are planning on Spa treatments book well in advance. I'll remember to do that next time! The hotel has beautiful gardens with tables/parasols dotted around which are lovely to sit and relax at with a nice cold drink. The thing that really made this place stand out for us was the staff. Every member of staff we encountered was so cheerful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. They really made our stay feel special and for that reason alone, we hope to visit again very soon!

Seven years ago we stayed here, and liked it. This year, since we were visiting friends in the Lake District, we decided to try it again. In 2011 we found its layout a little odd, and not altogether disability-friendly, and we're now pleased to note considerable improvement on both fronts - for example, the rooms and facilities are now arranged more conventionally on three floors, and are all lift-accessible. Also, dining arrangements were more straightforward; we booked dinner, bed and breakfast, and while the breakfast was as good as we remembered, we were also very happy with the three-course table d'hote dinner, which we found excellent value for money (especially the soups). So even more highly recommended!

Had a really nice and relaxing time here. Everything was as expected and better. The rooms were updated and food was a bit pricy but excellent service and menu of quality dishes. Nice gym and sauna along with swimming pool.

This hotel is first-class. The staff are absolutely super - helpful and friendly. The bedrooms are extremely clean. The food is yummy. The location great. Gardens are pretty. A very nice pool but young children will probably need to be with an adult. We enjoyed an amazing six days holiday, last week. Book now - you won't be disappointed.

This hotel was brilliant in every way. Modern room with good size bathroom. Friendly reception & staff throughout . Arrived in the afternoon & spent time in the pool & steam room, then tea & scones in the lounge. Lovely meal in the Alexander pub. Cocktails in the lounge & good variety for breakfast. Will certainly return again.

Faultless!! We got married on Sunday 22nd July 2018. Every single member of staff was friendly & helpful. From the staff who cleaned our rooms, to the staff who brought us our much needed cup of tea in the morning. The food at Alexanders was delicious and the wedding day - our huge compliments to all the kitchen staff. As we got married here, our main contact was Nicola Postlethwaite and what an amazing job she did! From the moment we arrived to view the hotel for our wedding, we didn't look anywhere else. Nicola oozed friendliness, honesty & experience - nothing too much trouble. And Christine Brown, our wedding day host. What a perfect day!! Christine and her team, were truly amazing and every single person made our special day, memorable and perfect! We had so many fabulous comments from our guests, we couldnt be happier. I enjoyed the food here and had a decent sleep in a nice clean room, it's on a steep hill though and there were a lot up to reception from where I parked but there is some parking nearer, the staff were very accommodating and there was a nice cat out in the garden one day, I would stay here again and would recommend. We used the business meeting rooms and they had everything we needed, lots of natural light and cans of drink in the fridge on the tea area with mini mint cakes and biscuits.

Spent 5 very nice days here earlier this month. Our only slight issue was the room we were first given. To be fair the room wasn't awful but a little disappointing in that it was no where near the standard as dipicted on their websites. To the Hotels credit when I went down to reception to voice my dissatisfaction we were instantly given a new room, which had recently been refurbished. That was very nice. Quite why if the better rooms are available they aren't given first Imhave no idea. Anyhow apart from that one minor niggle the rest of the hotel was great, The staffs were friendly and extremely helpful. The restaurant was superb, lovely food and nice views out over the gardens. A really nice place to stay.

We love this hotel. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Rooms are clean, comfortable and offer a good night's sleep.. The food is excellent, nicely presented, wonderful flavours and makes for a most enjoyable evening. We mostly stay on a Sunday night which is a great deal, look forward to our next visit.

Receptiontist was very abrupt and not helpful. Room basic. Restaurant: Food expensive and not the quality was questionable. The fish was overcooked and was rubbery in texture, not at all edible. The atmosphere was nothing special and the staff at the restaurant were not attentive.

Me my wife and our special niece stayed here on the 24th for 1 night,we where disappointed that the hotel had a 2 hour slot that aloud children in the pool 14.30 - 16.30 and 10.00 - 12.00. Surely if you're paying to stay in the hotel you should be able to use the facilities as advertised!The other disappointment was the view from our room on to an unkempt overgrown grass bank. It is a shame that these simple things let the hotel down.

This lovely hotel and surrounding grounds made for a really nice stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming ,always with a smile. Both on site restaurants offered a great choice of excellent food . The leisure centre with a fantastic pool was a real bonus.. I think it's fair to say that we will be back !!

Generally good, although only 3 disabled spaces for 99 rooms seems rather too low. Reasonable size room, but no air conditioning, which was surprising for the grading of the Hotel. Breakfast pretty good, although I gave up on the glass of tap water I requested, after waking for over half an hour.

We have stayed at this hotel many times but not for a few years. The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard since and the grounds look amazing. The staff are extremely helpful, happy and very professional. We ate at the Alexander's pub enjoying a first class meal and service. We stayed in one of the executive rooms which had an amazing view over the rolling hills. The room was immaculately presented, really spacious and very clean. The massive bed was a dream. Breakfast was buffet style, everything you need to set you up for the day. An excellent night away.

Stunning hotel. Gorgeous place. Perfect room and delicious food. Enjoyed the pool and sauna. Best of all we met Johnny vegas there as he was staying with his mum. So he made our trip to the lakes even more perfect

Stayed here in late June during an excellent spell of sunny weather. Good facilities and very welcome pool to have a cool swim in after a hike in the hot weather. Good choice of bars and dining. Good breakfast.

Food is 5 star the main restaurant does a three course which is well worth the money The staff in the restaurant were very helpful. The rooms were very clean and had tea and coffee including biscuits in the room.

This is a lovely hotel. The views are beautiful, the food in the restaurant is delicious and the rooms are clean with a comfortable bed. The staff are very willing to help and are very approachable. The breakfast is a buffet breakfast with a good range on offer.

Nice location with great view,. Four of us there for a lunchtime function, one of our party not disabled but walks very very slowly with aid of a stick(not wheelchair bound) There is NO LIFT between the hotel and the function room below (why not???) Disabled ramps available on both levels BUT if you are not able to walk as normal you will have a problem with the stairs between the two levels -or you would have to get in your car and drive down to the lower level - all very inconvenient and definitely not well thought out. Food was ok - melon starter was like turnip and very under-ripe. chicken main course was quite nice with fresh vegetables (the fondant potato was not too good) lemon tart desert was the best part of the meal along with a nice cuppa tea. service was okay.

The hotel is in a good peaceful location yet close to the town centre. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was spacious and had everything we need. Good onsite facilities and nice outside seating areas. Plenty of parking

Our second stay at Castle Green. We enjoyed it last year, this year was even better, we got a suite, it was worth it, large, comfortable, great view. Reception could not do enough to help, breakfast was so good last time that's what made us chose this hotel again. l have stayed in many hotels all over the world and if its a full English you like they do not come any better than at the Castle Green. Room 231 if you can choose.

Recently stayed at this hotel for my elderly mothers birthday. It was a special birthday and my sister had flown over from Australia for it. The hotel was everything we could wish for to make a perfect stay... great customer service (thanks to Laura), stunning views, beautiful location and the breakfast was amazing. Can't recommend the hotel enough .. thanks for making our stay memorable.

We stayed for two nights in June and really enjoyed our stay. We had a great room with a fantastic view. The staff were very helpful (I had a problem knee which needs ice) and the food is terrific. We will definitely return.

We visited during a June heatwave so could enjoy this hotel's beautiful location outside Kendal but the star in this hotel's crown is the team of very friendly, well-trained and thoughtful staff. The chef produces excellent meals of quality local seasonal ingredients. The menu is innovative and service good. We don't often dine in hotel restaurants as they can be mediocre but we had three perfect dinners here. A balcony room gave a view over the gardens and sunsets on the horizon. The pub in the same complex provides an alternative to the restaurant or lounge bar. The amenities are good. Downside was hot bedroom but it was an unusual British heatwave! Would definitely return.

Myself and my wife use Castle Green in Kendal four or five times a year, and have done for the last twelve years. We can honestly say we've never had a thing to complain about. The staff are always friendly and take time out to make the stay that bit more personal, chatty & friendly. The food is always exceptional and the views and gardens are amazing. Never been disappointed in the hotel, staff food or rooms.

I treat this hotel as my home away from home when in The Lakes on business. I have stayed here for almost ten years and seen some changes but all for the Best. It is always a pleasure to stay here and I always look forward to my return.

Stayed 4 nights for a car club event and couldn't fault the hotel for anything The biggest thing about hotels these days is they seem to cut back on staff but not here - lots of helpful friendly staff Had 3 group meals and the food was excellent at all of them - not easy to get it right for 200+ people every time so top marks and I'd definitely stay here again

Really Nice Hotel and well worth a stay. The grounds are lovely and it has a nice pub in the grounds which was reasonably priced for drinks.The hotel restaurant is fine dining and the food was exceptional. Only small criticism was other guests being noisy going back to their rooms in the early hours (not really the hotels fault).

Visited the Castle Green Hotel yesterday evening to catch up with some lovely friends we hadn't seen for a while who were visiting the area on holiday. We sat in the residents lounge area and had a drink and chat. Our friends had a table reservation in the restaurant for 8pm and as we were about to leave and let them go to dinner a young lady appeared at our table and said we have you down for dinner at 8 and it's now ten past 8 I have to say not the standard I would of expected from the Castle Green...We said our goodbyes and left our friends to go to dinner. It was a subject of conversation by my husband and I on our way home..How unpolite and I felt rude to interrupt in the way she did without even an 'excuse me Madam or Sir your table is ready' etc To just say 'we had you dining at 8 and it's now ten past 'was disappointing and rude to say the least and certainly not what you would expect from this 4 star hotel...

Recommended by The Crooklands which was full, this hotel was another welcome find, especially having travelled so far. Bit of a long haul to the room, but we were grateful for accommodation. It was very comfortable, with views over the gardens. The Greenhouse restaurant was great, and the Restaurant Manager very helpful, with a seat by the window overlooking the grounds. Food and service was excellent, and again poached haddock in the morning ... great!

Very friendly staff, lovely and clean room and excellent food. Relaxed environment with stunning views. We went to celebrate my husbands birthday at Christmas and the decorations were beautiful. We would recommend.

The rooms are comfortable but beware of the dining. We had dinner at the restaurant. The servings were meagre and overpriced The mushroom soup looked and tasted awful. Asked for additional bread rolls with the entree and were told they had only ordered exact quantity of one each for our group from the bakery hence no more was available. Asked for additional butter and were supplied with one tiny slice. Had preordered the dessert which was not supplied. The staff claimed that it was wrongly served to other customers and no additional servings were available.

We had beautiful weather for the whole 4 days of our stay here, so that meant we were really able to appreciate the beautiful gardens and sit outside in the evening sun with cooling drinks. We ate in the Alexander's bar 2 nights and the hotel bar one night. The menu wasn't great for vegetarians, although we were able to make do with what there was and mix and match with starters and salad. Beds were super-comfy but decor in our room was a bit dated and dingy (everything mustard-coloiured!) [- not the sheets!!]And not enough sockets in the room - apart from the TV ones, there was only one for everything else. Breakfast was buffet and a bit overdone for our tastes. However, because it was such a lovely setting, the weather was lovely and the views so good (although not from our room!), we had a lovely time.

A Fabulous afternoon tea was had by us 3 adults lovely sandwiches, warm scones and a great selection of little cakes. The little ones afternoon tea upto age 12, was a big hit with my son, this is not something we have come across before but is a great idea as it caters more to a childs palette and the toy is a nice touch. The staff were all super friendly and very attentive even chef came out to see us which we thought was nice. It's a big thumbs up from us and would highly recommend, especially if you're taking children.

A lovely stay at Castle Green with the much appreciated overseeing of Manager Ben who organised everything we'd asked for with lots of unexpected attention to detail. The staff were excellent and it's the first hotel I've ever stayed in where on arrival a team of staff came to the car and brought all our things to the room. We also had personalised menus typed up at dinner as one of our party had particular requirements - such a change from other hotels who just don't bother. Special mention to Head Chef Justin. Also Restaurant Manager Jimmy who seemed to remember everything. A stunning location and a great team of staff!

Great hotel in fabulous location. Very clean and comfortable rooms with good ensuite facilities. Friendly and efficient staff. A lovely walk in the woods after breakfast. The food in the Greenhouse Restaurant was superb. The smoked salmon starter and the fillet of pork were both wonderful. Restaurant staff were very pleasant and extremely helpful. We will return to this hotel next time in Kendal.

Great location, short walk into Kendal for pubs, shops, river etc, also handy for Oxenholme railway station on w coast main line if that's how you want to get to the Lakes. Nice clean friendly hotel, food in Alexander's is good. Gym is good, the pool is functional. Lovely gardens and views.

Last minute booking for the bank holiday weekend,dan the guy that checked us in was very helpful and told us loads of information of the local area,room was basic in my opinion and the window faced a cliff so was very dark all day and no aircon Overall a great weekend hotel is in a great location.

The hotel is lovely close to everything. The food here is really nice. The staff are really good to all of them will bend over backwards for you the only thing 2 things that might need looking at. I understand paying a 5er for a pint but 3.50 for a bottle of water when it's hot is a bit much don't you think ??? Also the rooms are so so hot and no air con. So if u open the window with the light on. You get a few hundred bugs in your room. So maybe put air con in. Or them nets to stop the bugs getting in ???

I have stayed at this hotel twice over several years and would recommend it. The gardens are lovely to sit in on a nice sunny day. The rooms are light and modern. Tea/Coffee facilitis in room, we were cheeky and asked for extra hot choclate which was not a problem. We had breakfast each day and this was nice and fresh. We also ate an evening meal in the hotel restaurant which was lovely. We also ate in the pub in the car park. The food was nice but the hotel restaurant food was better. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We used the swimming pool int he gym each day. It did tend to get a little busy at times but it wasn't a problem0 Would stay here again.

First time stayed in the hotel, we was very surprised how nice the hotel was especially their garden and had a delicious meal in the restaurant. They was had a gym but we didn't have time to use it. Will visit again soon

Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Staff were so welcoming, friendly & helpful. Hotel is spotless. Food is delicious. Stayed for 3 nights with my mum in 2 separate rooms. She had a magnificent accessible room on the ground floor which she was thrilled with. I had a garden room with a balcony which was lovely too. If I have one quibble it would be a moveable/flexible shower head but that is just a personal choice. Really if you want to visit the area do not hesitate to stay here

Thank You for such a lovely weekend, your staff were so efficient and helpful nothing was too much trouble as I am disabled this was really great. Everything ran smoothly for our car club event. Unfortunately I was unable to walk around the lovely grounds only look at them from the hotel and I was unable to take advantage of all thefacililities but perhaps one day I will be recovered enough to stay again and enjoy it more fully. I would really recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Lake District.

This hotel is situated just outside Kendal, about 20 minutes walk into the town. The gardens are well laid out and are lovely to walk round. We stayed with several friends and the staff could not have been more accommodating, helping with luggage (as the lift was being repaired), finding space for us to gather each evening, asking about our activities and generally being welcoming and friendly. The hotel was good, rooms well serviced and breakfast had a buffet with the emphasis on local produce, with the option of ordering additional items such as kippers, smoked haddock,poached eggs etc. The gym had all you needed for a short break and the swimming pool was at an excellent temperature, just right for relaxing after a long journey. My husband and I enjoyed the Spa too, I had a relaxing facial and he had a full massage at very reasonable prices. I would certainly stay here again.

Stopped at this hotel for 1 night over the bank holiday. I was impressed from the start when I had a telephone call the day before my arrival asking if I was ok with directions to the hotel and if I would like to book an evening meal in one of their restaurants. The room was a decent size for the two of us and we had a small balcony which was great in the nice weather. The bathroom was very modern too. We had evening meal and breakfast at the hotel and both were superb! All staff that we met were all friendly and couldn't do enough for us! Would definitely recommend this hotel and wouldn't think twice about coming back!

We stayed here as part of a large group and had a really lovely few days. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and ours had a lovely view of the beautiful gardens. The food was great even though we were always a table of 22! If in Kendle again would stay there without a doubt.

We have just spend a wonderful weekend at The Castle Green hotel.We could not fault it.All the staff were so welcoming and friendly.We had a lovely view from our room.The breakfasts were delicious. As the weather was so wonderful we spent many hours relaxing in the hotel gardens with a glass of wine! Would highly recommend this hotel.

Myself & my boyfriend booked this hotel very last minute as a little get away & it was amazing. The staff are very friendly & welcoming, the room was exceptionally clean. Evening meal was lovely & a superb breakfast. Would highly recommend!

We stayed in room 137 last night the room was lovely the hotel is lovely the views was beautiful BUT these are the down falls, we pre ordered drinks in the room, they wasn't there on arrival so we had to call to request them, the beers arrived warm, prosecco was lovely. Then we ordered room service for the price we was hopeful that our haddock goujons and chips and burger would be at least a average standard, we ate literally 2 chips and a bite of the burger. The burger was greasy and the fish was awful I didn't even want to try it the smell was bad enough. We tried to call reception to collect the plates as the food was stinking the room out but was no answer on 4 occasions so we left the tray outside it took a good few hours but eventually was moved. We ordered another bottle of prosecco and called it a night, we wasn't told by reception on arrival where breakfast was but we did find it the next day in greenhouse the breakfast was ok to be fair, sausages really good the bacon was hit and miss but overall was nice then we checked out slightly early as I had paid for the late checkout to be hit with a bill of over £100 I questioned this as those thought it was around double what we should have paid and was told it was correct so I paid I have since emailed hotel to be told I have been overcharged by £45 and will be refunded in 3-5 days not really acceptable when I was also already pre authorised an additional £50 on arrival all in all the room was £190 I paid £50 for pre drinks and then spent a further £60 on room Service I would have expected a better service and experience, I also filled out a form which promises a treat for doing so which we didn't get, I would have loved to stay here again the hotel But not sure we will now.

I stayed here for a night whilst away for work and found it very pleasant.. Location was out of the way but still close to town, staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and well kept and I slept well aside from a couple of late stragglers walking past the room. The Greenhouse restaurant served an excellent dinner but the buffet breakfast was a little too dried out under the heat lamps for my liking.

This was our 5th stay at the Castle Green and it was as good as our first. The staff are friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are beautifully clean and well equiped. The food in the Greenhouse restaurant is excellent. You can mix and match between al a carte and set menus, which is great. The surrounding gardens are lovely to walk in and the hotel has superb views over the hills. We tried our first murder mystery evening and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We stayed here when attending a Murder Mystery event which made the night that much more special. The room was spotless and very well appointed. The bed was comfortable my only complaint was people walking past our room early in the morning talking loudly. The breakfast was superb and catered well for people with food allergies. The murder mystery the Great Gatsby Murder was excellent and comes highly recommended, we will be back.

Good bed, clean room, a bit annoying that we had a room on the 2 nd floor and there is no elevator so it was a bit of a struggle with the bags. The shower kept on going hot/ cold..The staff were nice and the breakfast was good.

Shame you can't give a score of 4.5... I was here on business, overall very pleasant hotel with good food and an excellent breakfast. if I was being extremely critical I would say the rooms were a bit bland and housekeeping left quite a lot of hairs from the previous occupants (I guess) in the bathroom, but nothing that I considered a deal breaker. Would be very happy to use again.

We stayed here for one night having met up with some friends. What a lovely friendly hotel. Our room was lovely and spotless with a very modern bathroom with bath. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of prosecco in the lounge before we had dinner. We dined in the restaurant where we had a lovely table overlooking the garden. The food was absolutely delicious. This was fine dining at its best. All four of us had a wonderful meal, each course was perfectly presented and was enjoyed by all. We would certainly stay here again and would highly recommend it.

Nice hotel in beautiful surroundings, clean and comfortable room, plenty of on site parking. Had dinner in the pub that's on the hotel grounds, very nice food and great service. Only complaint, drink prices in the hotel bar are outrageously expensive, annoyingly expensive!

We stayed here Friday-Sunday for a quick getaway, we've never been here before however we will definitely be back! Rooms were spotless, large comfy bed and a bath in the bathroom. Complimentary bottled water and a tv on the wall (which showed the Man United game so he was very happy!!) Location was lovely and the surrounding gardens are well looked after. All staff are pleasant and accommodating, also waiting on staff and bar staff are not to go unrecognised! Connor behind the bar was polite and funny great asset to the team. We would definitely recommend.

My partner booked this hotel for a birthday break for me. It's a lovely, large hotel just outside of Kendal. When we arrived I was disappointed to see that the room didn't have a bath - just a shower. We asked at reception and they said the only rooms with baths were the old, unfurbished rooms which was a shame. We went to use the pool and in the middle of our swim the power cut out. We were plunged into darkness! The power remained off from then until about 9.30pm - meaning the restaurants weren't serving meals and we had no internet, ability to use tv etc. The staff sent round a notice explaning that the power would be off for the evening but there was no mention of compensation or a discount when we left the next day. This was really disappointing considering this was booked as a treat for a special occasion. Other than this, the staff were lovely and the breakfast was good.

We booked a last minute overnight stay. What a lovely surprise the staff all very welcoming and friendly. Our room albeit a executive room was huge and immaculate. We had a light lunch in Alexander's Bar then a walk into town which was very easy to do. We had a fantastic dinner in the Greenhouse Restaurant and drinks in the bar again all very pleasant. This place really needs to get out there and market itself better is the only criticism that I can offer

Stayed here for a three night break with my wife. A lovely hotel overall in a very pleasant setting and a super room which was clean, comfortable and very, very quiet. Great TV, a safe, plus tea/coffee making facilties all on hand. Great leisure facilities on site too. Buffet style hot and cold breakfast with loads of choice which we enjoyed very much, with fantastic views from the conservatory overlooking Kendal. We dined in the pub Alexander's each evening and were never disappointed with the quality of meals and service. Every member of staff was attentive, efficient and made our stay very enjoyable and relaxing. We will definitely be back!

£132 per night for a very small room which feels claustrophobic. Rooms are clean and have a kettle with tea & coffee and smart tv which you can connect to your laptop. Breakfast is inedible- it starts at 7am and i got there every morning at 7 and the fried eggs are hard no runny yolks the sausages burnt to within a inch of their lives and the bacon is still all clumped/stuck together were its been layed in the oven so when you do manage to separate it the top half is burnt and the bottom half is anemic, the hash browns and toast is the only edible part of the cooked breakfast and i would go so far to say i would barely score the breakfast a 1 out of 10. However the evening meals everyday in the greenhouse and alexanders were excellent a thorough 9 out of 10 there. Staff are really good and pleasant and this part of England is stunning. I will look elsewhere for my next visit to Kendal as i do not think £132 per night represents value for money in the light of how small the room was and how very poor breakfast is.

Loved our stay at the hotel, the room with garden view was great. I would highly recommend. Loved the food at the restaurant. The service was great, also has spa which is great. I would definitely return.

Me and my partner went here a few days ago. It was a loverly hotel with smily and helpful staff. We had breakfast there which was really nice, no wait at all. This was overlooking the hotels front garden. The pool there was also really nice and enjoyed using the sauna room as well. The hotel itself was nice and clean with no signs of dirt at all. We upgraded to the garden view room. Definitely recommend it!

If you are planning a wedding in the near future look no further than the Castle Green Hotel - absolutely fantastic. My son and his beautiful bride had their wedding here on Good Friday 2018. We had the most wonderful day ever. From meeting Nicola (who recently won wedding coordinator of the year) over a year ago whose planning was meticulous to the actual day looked after by the wonderful Christine everything ran smoothly, nothing was to much trouble. All staff were amazing, friendly & very helpful. I especially must mention the chefs - the food be it in the hotel restaurant, Alexander's and definitely for the wedding breakfast was superb. We have been to this hotel many times and have always been impressed with the level of service received. There is refurbishment of some of the bedrooms at present but our rooms were beautiful. The scenery is stunning and we were delighted after a forecast for rain it didn't happen and although cool the sun did shine. We all had a wonderful time, have got lots of fantastic memories & pictures - would definetley recommend this great hotel.

We have been to this hotel many times and have always been impressed with the service, the friendly staff, the food and the rooms. This visit was no exception. We were made welcome by the great staff on reception and were given a superb room. The breakfasts and evening meals were outstanding as usual and it was nice to be able to have a leisurely swim in the pool. We cannot rate this hotel highly enough and will most certainly be back again in the near future. Ps a special mention of Rob who went out of his way to make our stay special.

We decided to brave the awful Easter weather and get away for a very last minute overnight stay in Cumbria. We paid £119 for a double room with breakfast and to be honest I wasn't expecting much. I was very pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely time. The fabric of the hotel was nice, no tatty bits and the ambience was relaxed and seemed focused on making sure everybody had a nice stay. The people that worked there were friendly and attentive and the service felt genuine. We ate in the less posh restaurant, Alexander's. it was marketed as a pub but really was a relaxed and casual dining experience. We had 2 courses plus drinks and I paid about £50. I would definitely stay here again and actually emailed the manager when we got home to say how much we enjoyed our short stay. It's quite close to town and there is plenty of parking.

Castle Green Hotel is set up high which takes in the views for miles around. Situated only 10 minutes by car from Kendal Town and in easy reach of the Lake District. The newly refurbished rooms are lovely, food excellent, spa facilities great. A wonderful place to stay for as long as you can.

We were originally booked in to the riverside hotel in Kendal but when we arrived they had a burst pipe which had wiped 10 rooms out and had no room for us but the receptionist there had found us a room in the castle green hotel which was a little further out of town which we didn't mind as it was being covered by the riverside hotel, but a bit scared of where they were sending us as we hadn't heard of the hotel before, so we went on our way to not knowing where we were going to be staying. 10 mins up the road We pulled up to a big white building which looked very maintained and very upmarket we got to reception and it was lovely inside the staff were amazing, the room was lovely too, we went to Alexander's for our evening meal which is on the same grounds as the hotel and does amazing pub grub, we had an amazing stay and experience the staff were fantastic very helpful, so after all that next time we are in Kendal we will be back to the castle green hotel sorry riverside

The hotel is excellent, friendly helpful staff, nice room, nice pool and steam room, breakfast was great. Great views over the hills and not too far to walk into Kendal. Receptionist was very helpful when we wanted to change our room for one with a bath.

Loved our room, the staff who stayed cool and friendly despite the busy-ness of Christmas, the food in the restaurant and the location! Would definitely recommend it! The gym was great too. Lots of great advice for where to go and explore locally.

Stayed here on business and arrived at 9:10 and because our room was ready they gave us immediate access which is not the norm with a lot of hotels. The room was comfortable apart from the bathroom which was very tight as the toilet and the shower were so close you could probably shower on the toilet, however other room so maybe better. The room had tea/ coffee making facilities with biscuits and a free safe with great WiFi. The restaurant had top notch food and a spa which you could use and beautiful views. The staff told me that Kendal Village was only a short walk and Windermere was 20mins drive but as I was on business I never got the chance to visit. This hotel is great for conferences and there seems to be a lot of events going on through the year. Only issue was that I was in room 120 and you could here every conversation as people walked from reception, very noisy. Beautiful location, brilliant food and great staff.

We stayed overnight at the Castle Green Hotel, outside was snowing and cold, inside warm and cosy next to a blazing Log Fire. It was our 1st time at this hotel and it was perfect in every way, it was modern, extremely clean, the decor and everything looks superb, and everyone who works there that we came in contact with were so very helpful, happy and very professional. They have a pub in the grounds of the hotel that was really nice as well. We were undecided as to eat in the hotel restaurant or in the pub as they both looked inviting and we liked what was on both menu's. In the end we ate in the hotel, but I have to say that Chris who we spoke to in the pub was great, kind, and helpful to the point that we felt awful not eating there. However the restaurant was superb with amazing views, the food was excellent as were all the people who looked after us, especially Nicola who could not have done more to make our experience a memorable one, which we intend to repeat again as soon as we can. A huge thank you to all at the Castle Green Hotel, in our experience one of the best.

We are holding a charity event here in April and we are bowled over by the help, support and free room hire etc etc. Alyson could not have been more helpful and advisory as this was our first attempt. If we could give them 10* we would do. I'm sure that when our event happens, everything will be perfect.??????

A very comfortable hotel at a very nice price. Lovely helpful staff. Rooms fair sized, not large but comfortable. Nice view. Comfortable bar with great selection of wines by the glass. Those I tried were good. The dining was amazing. Service above expected, even fish knives! I rarely dine in the hotel but made an exception. I can't remember the last time I dined in a hotel two nights in a row but I did here. Set menu looked good but we had fish on t he a la carte. PERFECTION. not over cooked, just astonishing and so unusual. Nicely complemented but not overpowered. Steak was good. I had the sirloin but should have tried the rib eye. It seemed expensive but I'm sure it would be value based on the other courses. Desserts were great and the desert wine fabulous. Breakfasts were good, with local meats. Maybe a little short of healthy options but I don't mind that. Best to walk it off I think. There was fruit and cereal come to think of it so maybe I'm being over critical. This is one of the best value breaks ever. Service fantastic: accommodation good: food exemplary: drinks really good.

I stayed here for two nights at a work training event, the room I was in was one of the refurbished ones, (there's a refurbishment programme ongoing but it didn't disturb me at all) it was a double room, although not especially big, but for one it was ample. It was decorated and kept well and I though the furniture was in keeping with the location. Very friendly staff on reception and in the breakfast room. I would stay here again

The hotel was just what we needed, room was clean, comfortable and service was great! Breakfast was brilliant each morning, dinner in the GreenHouse resturant was very good! Brilliant starters, i had scallops and my other half had Pigeon! I believe it was Nicky ( Short blonde hair) worked in the resturant in the morning and dinner was fantastic, great interpersonal skills, and funny! Thank you for our stay!

Myself and my husband stayed last night. We have stayed many times, since 2010. We keep returning as we class Castle Green as our "chillout place". From the arrival, the setting and grounds are beautiful. Everything here is 5* The staff are all fantastic (Special thanks to Dan for sorting our last minute stay out and Nicola in the bar/restaurant for being as lovely as always). The rooms are gorgeous and immaculate. The food and breakfast is always fantastic. The whole team are always welcoming and friendly. Thank you all for yet another brilliant stay. See you again soon. Nicely situated. Good staff, warm welcome, nice get away with work. Comfy bed so a decent night's sleep was had, tad noisy late on but nothing that was to disturbing. WiFi signal was poor. Would come again

Husband's work were having their Christmas do here so after trawling the internet trying to find a reasonably priced hotel in Dec I decided to ring up to see if any offers were on as online they were very expensive, so glad I did !!! We got the room for £100 inc breakfast & full use of the pool (which we didn't have time for unfortunately). The do was in a seperate area which we had to leave the main building to go outside & down some steps - which was very cold & I wasn't expecting to do thinking it was all inside so never brought a coat. This is the only reason it's not a full 5 stars. The meals were all pre ordered & lovely, entertainment was good & drinks expensive but overall a good night. Now to walk back up these steps in the freezing cold back into the main building to our room - basic & comfortable. Everything needed & plenty of sockets for us ladies with our electrical haha. Good night's sleep even though we were on the main corridor by reception so everyone had to walk past our room to get to theirs, so it was a tad bit noisey for my liking. Breakfast was lovely, buffet style help yourself, we had to wait for aprox 10mins to be seated as it was heaving that morning !!! Definitely a lovely hotel to stop in !!!

Our party of 15 have thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the Castle Green Hotel. The rooms are fabulous, the staff are extremely hard working but, very very friendly & helpful. Th food is excellent. The entertainment is wonderful. But, the bar prices are extortionate!!!

Really nice place, just on the outskirts of Kendal, set in the hills. A good size hotel with helpful and friendly staff. The snow did a touch of magic, but I'm sure the countryside is still lovely regardless. Nice food and coffee too. A good choice as a base for exploring the area.

We married at Castle Green in Aug 2016. So we held our youngest's Christening do again in the Kendal Suite. We had afternoon tea and it was lovely. Usual sandwiches, cakes etc. Yummy as usual. Nicola asked if we wanted to give speeches & cut daughter's Christening cake. Staff lovely. Service brilliant. Our little girl got a teddy and birthday meal at Alexander's (pub) till she's 12. Lovely as usual.

A trip away to Kendal for my wife's birthday. Very nice hotel, good sizes room and comfy beds. Would have been nice to get a room at the front but still the room at the back was very quite. Friendly staff and a pub on site was good. Leisure was very nice it would of been 5 star if there was a jacuzzi as well.

Nice hotel, comfortable and good food but an awful nights sleep. I was given room 110 always next to reception and had to put up with someone (night porter) walking down the corridor opening and closing doors all night.

I stayed here with my elderly mum for one night, booked through Booking.com, arrived early and they allowed us to have a room at about 1.00pm. Excellent disabled parking just outside the door but without this there is a little climb up some steps from the car park at the front of the hotel. We had to climb up some steps to get to the room then down two large steps to get into it but mum just managed, we could have waited for a more accessible room but chose to take the one that was ready so my mum could have a lie down. If booking again I would ask for a newly refurbished room and try to get one that looks over the front, our room just looked over a back yard but we were there for a family party locally and only wanted somewhere to go to sleep so it really didn't matter to us. The bathroom was excellent and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was superb. The staff were all friendly and helpful, I would definitely book this hotel again.

We stayed for one night in one of the recently refurbished rooms. It was a very large room with a super king bed and a double sofa bed. The sofa bed was of very good quality and very comfy. The room had a fridge and tea and coffee facilities with very welcome biscuits. (There was a cafetière but no ground coffee which I presume was an oversight.). The room also had a desk and a small seating area with coffee table and armchairs so it was plenty big enough for a family for a couple of days. The bathroom was fabulous with a separate shower enclosure and a very grand bath. The Elemis minis in the bathroom were a nice touch. There was a huge tv, which could spin so you could see it from either bed. Breakfast was superb, super quality and loads of choices (duck egg for example). There were even chocolate eggs on the table for the run up to Easter. It was without doubt one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had. The grounds are very well maintained. The leisure facilities are very good. The only issue here is the lack of a family changing area for the pool which would be helpful. The location is good, easy to find and within a short distance of the main attractions in the lakes. We will definitely be returning to this fabulous hotel.

The hotel room was spacious and clean. We had trouble getting the radiator to work so the room was cold for a long time. The 2 course evening meal was poor. The blade of beef was tepid and the piped mashed potato was cold. The veg were tepid too. There was a long delay between courses and the rhubarb crumble was a tepid small circular slurry of rhubarb with a sprinkle of oats on top. The two tablespoons of custard were tepid and the four rhubarb stalks seemed to be just out of the freezer.

Arrived early to check-in and receptionist was really pleasant and helpful, room was lovely, in a quiet area as I requested. Had a massage in the green room spa - amazing!!! Ate in the Alexanders, I never got the servers name but couldn't do enough for us on Saturday afternoon, thank you!!! Overall even though the hotel was full it was still a relaxed chilled atmosphere which is what we both needed, will return!!!

Firstly, when I booked this the hotel accidentally took two payments which sent me into my overdraft, which I was not happy about. It took five days to sort and there wasn't any kind of compensation for this - not even a box of chocolates. The room was large but very plain and lacking in any character. The shower ran hot and cold - not pleasant. The food on the evening was superb and the hosting great. However they then tried to charge me for the full food bill when I had already paid. This was rectified though. Breakfast was disappointing compared to the evening meal but there was a fair range. When we went to check out, we were told there were drinks on the room (there weren't) and again I had to prove by showing a receipt. We had a nice time and there was a nice view but will not be returning - there is plenty of competition out there that offer more character and better service.

Just had one night , everything you would expect from a first class hotel .The room was warm in fact had to turn the heating down and open a window ! But I presume if you had been out walking the hills it would put a large smile on your face . Had to book a table for the main restaurant as I was advised by the receptionist and glad I did . (Just after a tour of Japanese tourists ) they had got the timings perfect . Did not have to wait for service , the meal with recommended wines was great and not overpriced with the pudding wines adding a lovely touch . Did not take up the facilities of the gym and pool but will on my return .

Omg i cannot put into words how much we love it at the Castle Green. We go there at least once a month to escape the daily grind of work this and work that. Shane in the bar is so fabulous and Rob who is always available at breakfast has to be our favourite. Rob we love you. The manager in Alexanders is such a lovely man and nothing is too much trouble for him. In fact we love you all so see you in a few weeks xxxxx

An excellent hotel situated up an incline and therefore lovely views over Kendal and the hills. I woke up to the most stunning frosty views every day. Staff are fantastic, welcoming and helpful. The young lady serving the tables in bar area was always great and remembered my room number each night - the breakfast server should take note! Even on my third morning it was as if he'd never met me before. The hotel is refurbishing at the moment - this did not impact on my stay at all - great to see them investing in the quieter months. I was particularly blown away by the food. The pasta sauce is like silk - quite the nicest I've ever had. The club sandwich was generous and delicious too. Breakfasts are fresh and plentiful. On my last day I asked for an omelette and this was swiftly presented - really lovely. You can walk from the hotel down into Kendal very easily. I did it every day. From there you can get a bus or train to Windermere or perhaps Lancaster, I did both and had a fab time exploring this area.

We stayed there 2 nights at the end of January and couldn't fault it, the breakfast was top notch, the room was big as well as the bathroom , the staff were all friendly, it's a short walk from the center of Kendal, but we would definitely go back again

Stayed at this hotel 3/2/18 and we enjoyed our stay very much. Lovely grounds, lovely rooms and lovely cocktails ?? the food at Alexanders was brilliant and the breakfast was also great, enough to cater to everyone's likes. There is a woodland walk at the back of the hotel, we unfortunately didn't get chance to investigate but I'm sure we will be back at some point. Only bad point I have is that they ran out of non alcoholic beer and said they don't stock it anymore which is a shame as my partner can't drink. Would definitely stay again!

We had a two night stay at the hotel at the end of January. Always a pleasure to stay here and we always try and stay a couple times a year. The room we stayed in (219) had recently had a excellent makeover. Situated on the first floor overlooking the gardens. We dined in the restaurant twice for our evening meal and the food was exceptional in choice, presentation, taste and service. Breakfasts are very good too. All the staff are very helpful and it is a pleasure to receive their attention. The leisure facilities are very good and I always try and get a couple swims in whilst I stay. Hotel location is very good and gives easy access around the Lake District. Well done to all at the hotel.

We came here for our 4th anniversary and have a pampered day, to shut the world out. On arrival it was quite difficult to find a parking place and we were greeted by welcoming staff. Rooms are spacious and clean with tea and coffee facilities. If you want to eat your evening meal at Castle Green, you should book as soon as possible. The view from the restaurant is gorgeous, we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast and view of the snowy weather. We ran out of tea bags, because I do have a tea belly, when we asked reception for more they said "they don't provide anymore". We decided to go into Kendal for our evening meal, Kendal is small but beautiful. We ate at The Gate of Kendal, what a sweet pub and food was delicious. Coming back after our evening meal, we got a little stressed and there was a function on and no car park spaces. The leisure and spa staff here are polite and welcoming. We had a relaxing swim before our massages. We left with big smiles and relaxed. Well, I slept all the way home :D

Had a lovely weekend at castlegreen! Rooms were lovely, bar, restaurant and food very nice if a little pricey! Staff very friendly! Only downside was refurbishments to the hotel made our journey to the bedroom a long trek and Alexander's was closed which we were not notified at booking.

Stayed here several times now and experience is always very good. Usually enjoy eating and drinking in Alexanders, which is currently closed and under refurbishment but bar and restaurant experience in main hotel was great. We had a very nice garden view room, a very comfortable bed and good shower. Highly recommend.

We normally eat at Alexander's restaurant at this hotel but it is being refurbished so we ate in the main hotel bar. Very comfortable relaxed space with very friendly staff who were efficient and professional. The menu was good with soups, sandwiches or full 3 courses. The soup and sandwich deal was excellent - delicious soup served with soft warm bread and a great sandwich served with slaw, garnish and crisps. A very tasty and filling meal at a very good price. All in all a lovely place to go for a relaxing bite to eat at lunchtime - we are looking forward to trying their evening meal one day soon.

Didn't actually stay over, but the place was packed with guests. Good parking facilities. Nicely furnished and immaculate. Our employers supplied A very healthy lunch? Not a carb in sight. However, a lovely gentleman told us the other group had left and there was plenty of sandwiches and chips left if we could use them up!!!!!!! What a hero, and certainly knows what keeps the ladies happy. Lovely fresh sandwiches on Brown or white with various fillings, chunky chips with ketchup and mayonnaise. Just what our employers didn't order.

We stayed on Sunday night and took another couple with us . We chose rooms overlooking the garden area and we ate in the Greenhouse restaurant .The meal was very good and the miniature desserts are excellent. The breakfast was cooked to order as the hotel was very quiet. The breakfast was excellent quality. There is a pub on site called Alexander's which is closed for refurbishment. My husband used the pool and sauna and said they were good.

Went to celebrate our sons 18th in the. Hotel restaurant The staff arranged a table in a large square so we could talk across to each other and not be on one long table. They placed our decorations out for us before we arrived. Service was good as always food enjoyable and January discount excellent. Sure we will be back before the end of the month. Thanks to all.

Absolutely great hotel. The staff couldn't be more helpful, I couldn't name them all. The pub next to it served great food. Would recommend this place to anyone and we will certainly be going back. We had an executive room, garden view room and family room and they were all decorated beautifully with great facilities

We got married on the 12th of January. We had our Wedding breakfast and evening reception at Castle Green it was fantastic. The good was amazing. The staff were fabulous, helpful and orangnised. We had family from Manchester stay for the weekend everyone was so impressed with the hotel and team. Thank you so much would highly recommend. Great job thank you xxx

My husband and I recently got married at Castle Green in December last year. From the dedication and friendliness of the staff to the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms-everything was spot on. We had our reception in the Kendal suite which was just stunning with the views from the balcony of the gardens and the fells in the distance. Our guests enjoyed every minute and all commented on how fantastic both the venue and staff were. Thank you Castle Green. From the Medways :-)

I have stayed here on several occasions and has always been nice but I thought there are a couple of things worth mentioning. The room was nice and comfortable and very clean. The food was very nice, especially the breakfast. We had room service which was nice but the portion sizes were disappointing for the price. I tried to check in online but had problems with the website. I eventually called directly and was offered a price and a deal that didn't appear on the website so it worked out quite well. When we checked in, although friendly, the person that checked us in offered no information or guidance on the hotel facilities. There was no mention of the refurbishment Work that was ongoing and no mention of Alexander's restaurant being closed. However, I do still like the hotel and will stay again if I am in the area.

Twenty years after our first New Year celebratory stay, we returned to be greeted by Jill, who we met the very first time and also completed our booking on both occasions. It was like old times. Friendly, welcoming yet still professional, Jill's exceptional qualities continue to impress. Fabulous room with four poster bed & well appointed spacious en suite made the stay feel extra special. Lovely afternoon tea in the Greenhouse with soulful singer crooning in the background add for a great start to the festivities. Just enough time for a swim & a chill out before luxuriating in the beautiful bathroom and preparing or the big night. Welcome fizz & canapés were a nice way to have the meet & greet prior to a sumptuous meal which was delicious and beautifully presented. Service was second to none, they made it look effortless. Band played a range of funky tunes. Midnight fireworks continued to impress. A fabulous night! New Year's day meal in the Greenhouse was relaxing and the following morning's cooked breakfast was as good as it has ever been. It was lovely to see so many familiar staff faces - the sign of a happy workforce across the Castle Green family. ??

Very nice hotel with great facilities. We walked in the lakes early in the day and reached Hotel at Tea time good service nice Bar area on Saturday evening. Good choice of breakfast next morning. A hotel I have already recommended to friends and would most definitely visit again.

Check in was very easy and the reception staff lovely. Our room was gorgeous and very clean' tea and coffee included. We stayed for a wedding and thought it all went just perfect, all the staff involved were very attentive. Food was outstanding. We were in bed before 11 so not sure what time the bar closed. The breakfast was buffet service with tea and coffee offered from waiter. Everything else self service. Thought the bacon and sausage had been there quite a while so not as hot. Everything else was fine. All in all I would probably stay there again as just a couple. Xx

First I was on call out and it was my firm that booked this ,but even the fact I explained my down time I would like a quite part of the hotel , I was put what seemed to be above the Christmas party central with Mr Christmas bell ring hohoho 's guy , then the drunken running up and down the hall and not forgetting the number of failed attempts at gaining entry into my room. To to the point I wished I have got a call out just to get out of the place .room service was fantastic food was good . Staff fantastic and understanding enough said

We had a lovely one night break over Christmas at the Castle Green. The hotel is lovely - very clean, and the room was very comfortable. The restaurant was quite expensive so we ate in the on site bar. The food in here was lovely but is was very busy. Breakfast was buffet style which was good but meant that some of the meat was a little over cooked from being under hot plates for a while. Expect to pay hotel prices for drinks in small measures - 175ml was the largest wine and from £5.50 per glass plus! It was lovely though and served in lovely glasses!!! That and a beer was £10.

We arrived Saturday friendly staff as always lovely quiet room very good evening meal , New Year's Eve day after a nice walk into town the Hotel put a lovely afternoon tea on for every one with entertainment singer & magic lovely afternoon then the highlight of the day was the New Year's Eve Ball Great meal good entertainment live band fireworks at midnight were fabulous & staff were brilliant nothing was a trouble,News Years Day Hotel organised a walk with hot soup halfway round it is just what you needed to blow the cobwebs away Thank You to all the staff for a fabulous weekend

We are regular visitors here and spent last New Years Eve here and had such an excellent time that we took the deal to book again for 2017 at the same price? Not disappointed. Food, ambience, service all excellent. Suffice it to say we have booked for 2018 as well! No complaints other than the continental option was a disappointment on day two?

I'm not one to moan about hotels, and as long as they are clean I'm usually happy, but this one was an exception. The hotel looks lovely on arrival, and our room was very clean. On other positive notes, the bed was comfortable, the TV a good size, and the shower powerful. However, the walls of our room were paper-thin and we were located near to the reception, so we could hear comings and goings at all times of the night and morning. As a childless couple, it was bizarre to be woken by children at 6am! The woman in the next room also had a cough, which was fun! The heater in the room switches off at a certain time, which left me cold, as there is also a draught from the windows. At breakfast I confused the staff a little by asking about gluten free and vegan food. To their credit, they did manage to source some soya milk around 15 minutes after they went to look for it (they got it from the pub next door!). I ended up fetching my own cereal from my room, as there was none provided to go with the soya milk. The fruit provided was nice and fresh. When I checked out, the person on the desk just said "OK, nothing to pay", and did not ask me how my stay was. I had been ready to share my thoughts, but then felt they weren't wanted, so decided to share them here instead. I stay in Kendal quite often, but won't be returning here - I have stayed in more comfortable budget hotels.

Our New Year package for three nights was excellent. After many stays at this hotel, the attention to detail, and the experience has not changed. Our executive room did not have quite the garden view, but as a winter visit, the view was not that important. Room was located in quiet part of hotel. Used the pool this time, and is worth a visit. Good facilities for the gym if you need this activity. Good quality linen. Room very clean. Food is without exception very very good. Menu choice is extensive. Set, paired, or à la carte all good choices. Good value.

We spent 4 days over Christmas at this hotel, never having been here before. Our room was quite spacious, very clean with plenty of tea/coffee/complimentary water and quality toiletries. The hotel as a whole was lovely but the management must be especially complimented for the quality of all the staff - each and everyone of them, from chambermaids to bar staff were absolutely delightful as well as super efficient. Collectively they really made our holiday.

Very good hotel nestled in the hills just above Kendal, convenient location with fantastic views. The staff were really great, friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and on the ground floor as requested. The dining area with has a fabulous view and the bar was well laid out with a log burning fire. The menu was modern and quite a good choice of food. Breakfast was definitely something to look forward to.. I can not prise the hotel enough, and would recommend a stay when in the area.

Stayed here last minute because I would be working close by the next day and the weather forecast was for snow. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and made me feel welcome. I ate in the bar, only a snack but it was good, not keen on the mayo but that's personal choice. Rooms were lovely and comfortable spacious and clean - can't fault but I would ask them to take a look at their doors as wow if one doesn't close it carefully, so not to make a noise, it bangs like hell. The person staying in a room either opposite or next to mine was particularly active when it came to going in and out of their room and didn't care a hoot, leaving the door to self close - bang behind them - not what you want between the hours of 11 and midnight and extremely early the next morning - rather thoughtless to say the least. I'm not a fussy traveller usually and appreciate the rest of my stay was lovely - the view of the snow in the morning across the way was fabulous. The hotel is in a lovely position and I would recommend to anyone (just do something with those doors).

Revisited this hotel with a party fot Christmas lunch as last year. On that occasion we had, as we all remembered, an excellent meal, so we were disappointed with the standard of food this time. There was nothing at all special about our meal, in fact the t stuffed trkey portions appesred similar to some being available ready made from a well known supermarket chain,? The staff were efficient and friendly enough but there was little atmospher and drinks prices seemed even higher than before. I cannot see us returning for the same function next year. The big drawback with the building isbthe topography, it is set at the top of a hill wth 3 or 4 car park levels leading up to it. There are Disabled bays outside the main entrance, unless you have a blue badge you have to contend with steep slopes and steps as you make your way up to the building, difficult for many.

Great facilities, great room and food. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble door the staff. Car parking was a bit distant from the door to the hotel especially in the rain. Excellent day was had by all.

A very warm welcome from all the staff and management team and food was excellent. thank you all. We will be back for our next christmas party and who knows maybe even a private meal or two. will definatly use Alexanders pub for a drink and bar snack.

We came to the hotel for the festive afternoon tea. We like the Castle Green - we've been many times in its 20 years and kept saying we needed to go for the afternoon tea. The bar area where we sat was lovely - the perfect setting for a winter retreat with a lovely open fire and cosy surroundings. We LOVED the fab Christmas hat headbands - that was a lovely touch, thank you! We were brought some lovely mulled wine which again was nice for this time of year. It is for these points that I cannot truly mark the experience as a 2/Poor. The cake stand was brought out and it was put on our table. Usually the waiting staff will describe what is on the plates but this didn't happen. There were a few sandwiches. The bread was thin and the fillings even thinner! On the cake plate there was some stolen, shortbread and brownie. They were all small pieces. The shortbread was lovely and had a nice cinnamon taste to it. I don't feel that we got value for money. A nice plate of warm mince pies followed but after that no-one came to our table to check if everything was OK, if we wanted anything else, clear the table or offer the bill. We sat in the bar for a while hoping someone would come back to us but no-one did. We can overlook the flimsy Christmas crackers (sorry but a hotel of this calibre can provide something much nicer) but the afternoon tea wasn't close to some of the others on offer in hotels in the area. We would definitely go back to the Castle Green but just not for the afternoon tea.

A beautiful location for a weekend break with my nephew .A very warm welcome on arrival at the hotel.Food quality and service in the restaurant was superb.What was nice to see was the amount of efficient staff in the restaurant.The room was very well equipped and spotless.Lovely leisure facilities too.Look forward to returning.An ideal base to explore the South Lakes.

Excellent hotel and the Staff are fantastic too. They cant do enough for you, always make you feel very welcome. We love coming here. It caters for all ages. Its convenient for the main town and also the Lakes.

Stayed here a couple of times. Each time it's hard to fault. Rooms are well equipped and clean, staff are always helpful and there is a good choice for places to eat and drink on site. The restaurant is excellent food and good value for the tasting course. Plenty of parking which is always a plus for Kendal.

I stayed here for 1 night. hotel has very scenic location.front office staff was very courtous and was ready to listen to your queries which is quite rare in europe and Uk. our luggage was taken to our room since we had to have our dinner.Rooms are neat and clean, not too spacious but comfortable. Breakfast was plenty,DELICIOUS and vegetarian options were also avalaible apart from fruits.Plenty of parking space.Only pricing was bit too high .we paid 126 pounds for 1 night. but yess next time if visiting kendal again, this hotel is choice.

Stayed here for 2 nights and was delighted with the food. Even better was the ajoining Alexanders bar which served fantastic beer - I had 2 pints of Steamer Stout but 4 handpumps were in use. the hotel facilities were as advertised and a great time was had by all.

My colleague has stayed here for some time and although I was initially happy to stay at quaint B&B which I have reviewed previously I was willing to give this place a try and one of the main selling points was the pool and steam sauna along with a good variety of gym equipment. When working away for months on end it's good that you can do things so you don't get bored. It's listed as a 4star and premier range best western. I totally agree with the statement. The rooms are very good with a high standard like the Hilton double trees or the Mac Donald's. I must admit as I am in the area until March 2018 I now feel settled in this place. The staff are polite, efficient and helpful. I highly recommend this for long or short term stays. I have eat in Alexander's which is there bar restaurant which does have a slightly limited choice however the specials do offer a little more variety. The food standard overall so far has been very good.

Lovely hotel. Staff very helpful and polite. The restaurant is excellent , the food was amazing. Facilities great - pool and Beauty Salon very good. Rooms small but very clean. I would recommend this hotel.

Me my fiancee and our friends stayed here bonfire weekend and what a beautiful place... from the outside in from the reception to the beds and from the showers to the food i cant reccomend this place enough the rooms are modernised and immaculate the breakfast is to die for and well worth the money not over priced close to the town centre also a swimming pool sauna and gym which you can use... i would give this a 10 outta 10 definately

Only could stay here for one night, the reception staff were helpful and courteous. The room was well appointed and modern in style. The view from the rooms at the front of the hotel was pleasant, looking across the country side and hotel gardens. The restaurant served excellent food to a standard not often found and had a pleasant atmosphere. Again the staff were helpful and attentive.

My wife and I stayed here on a 2 night trip . I had two business meetings in Kendal. We stayed in a balcony room which was very well appointed. Good selection of tea and coffee in the room and the wifi was excellent as well as free to use. We ate twice in the accompanying Alexanders pub - food was excellent. The hotel also has a superb gym and swimming pool and sauna suite. The bar is also pleasant and service is generally excellent. My only niggle was that breakfast was £15 which is a tad expensive. Great location with loads of free parking and easy access into Kendal ( 15 mins walk or £5 for a taxi) . Kendal has poor parking to please note. We will stay again ...perhaps next time with friends and make a week of it!!

This was a last minute booking however the hotel was more than acceptable. Breakfast expensive though at £14.95 if not part of the room deal. Lovely scenic part of the world. Friendly staff, spacious room, well equipped gym and good size swimming pool. Would benefit from a jacuzzi though.

We stayed here for the second time last week and enjoyed the same excellent experience as last time. All the staff are most professional and give exceptional service. The food in the restaurant is wonderful. The executive room we stayed in was very well appointed and spotlessly clean. We look forward to coming back soon.

My wife and I stay at this hotel often,we go to the Castle Green to have a relaxing break and it never disappoints. The staff are always 1st class,the food is of the highest quality and its all set in beautiful gardens.

Standard chain hotel, good quality throughout, modern decor in the restaurant which is more expensive, Alexander's needs a little update as well as the lifts. It's located a little out of the way, continental breakfast was the best I've had. Pretty good stay, I would prefer a bath in the hotel room rather than just a shower.

Just spent a night at the hotel, room was amazing, surroundings stunning, staff very friendly, would definately go back & would absolutely recommend it. Didnt get a chance to use the leisure facilities but would make a point in doing this next time as it looked lovely. Could quite easily not have to leave the hotel.

The hotel was just right for our weekend break and provided a good, welcoming and comfortable jump off point to visit the Lake District. Most enjoyable and worth recommending to friends and family. Very good.

My husband have stayed at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal about 4 or 5 times and it just keeps getting better and better. We stayed last Saturday for the one night. Room as ever was lovely, clean and very comfortable. We had a few drinks in the bar and Shane looked after us great. We then had a meal in Alexanders Restaurant which was so good. Radu was our waiter and nothing was too much trouble for him. He was polite, courteous, charming, attentive and very professional. We have just booked to go back again in a few weeks. Can't wait. Very good hotel. Comfortable and well equipped rooms and big bar. Bar stays open for residents for pretty much as long as you like and helpful and friendly staff. Very good breakfast and meals in general.

I booked this hotel as my son and I were walking the Dales Way although it may be a little upmarket for walkers, not that anyone looked down on us with our dirty boots and rucksacks. Yes the price was a little above what we paid elsewhere but not excessively so and certainly in line with what was offered. Unlike the other hotels we stayed in our room was in a purpose built part of the hotel and therefore spacious and with an excellent bathroom. Beds were comfortable and the room was quiet, notwithstanding that the West Coast Main Line was close albeit behind some trees.The in house restaurant was rather pricey (I believe it has two AA rosettes) so we walked to Alexanders which although part of the hotel is a separate bar serving food. Here we had two pints of a very good dark ale that was actually competitively priced. We also ate there, the food was good and reasonable priced, much the same level as the other hotels we stayed at. A very good selection of breakfast items was on offer in the hotel restaurant including healthy options. It is worthwhile noting though that the hotel is a little distance from the town centre, no problem if driving (there was a large car park) but not so good if walking.

A great break with family, six of us were in the lakes for a family funeral. On our second night we were joined by friend for a meal in the restaurant, it was very good and we were al impressed. On the first night four of us went to Alexander's and were just as pleased. Our rooms were super, clean and warm.

Stayed 1 night on the way to Windermere and had high expectations based on some of the reviews I had read. On arrival the check in process was quick and we went to the bar to have some food before we went to our room. Staff managed to swap our room when I asked if it was a twin and we had been put in one of the Executive rooms. The room was ok, clean and functional apart from you couldn't plug in a charger near your bed as there were no plugs, which I thought was pretty stand these days for hotel rooms to have plugs beside the bed. I was trying to understand what made it an Executive room as the view was of a wall in one part of the room and of a tarmacked area in the other; however the staff accommodated my rest for a twin which was good. We booked into the Green House restaurant and decided to have the tasting menu. The food in part was excellent however I felt some dishes didn't work well with the combination of ingredients, but that's my opinion. The staff were very pleasant but never explained the dishes and what they comprised of, which I think was due to being inexperience as the majority of staff looked very young and though they had just left school. Also there doesn't seem to be a dress code which I would expect it would seem you can turn up in trainers and a tracksuit. Staff overall were pleasant but did notice a member of the bar staff be slightly rude to a customer. Breakfast is buffet style and was nice; it has all the main essentials you would expect. I must admit I was disappointed with the elements highlighted above based on the price that we had paid, as we stayed in a hotel in Windermere for less and had more of a better experience.

I dropped my wife off at reception while I went to park the car. By the time I git there booking in was almost complete but the receptionist notice I use a stick for walking, without hesitation she changed our room from the first floor to the ground floor. 4 star hotel, 5 star reception.. The room was spotless, tasteful deco, good sized tv, tea & coffee everything spot on. Breakfast was superb. You are shown to a table where you order tea or coffee, white or brown toast is served and you help yourself to the buffet bar. Locally sourced products, the best full English I have eaten in a hotel, and I have eaten a lot. I recommend this hotel.

Lovely rooms, clean, comfy beds,and great restaurant with menu to suit all. Staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. would highly recommend and great base for visiting the beautiful lakes. Would definately stay again

Stayed fir a couple of days and altogether very pleasant nice staff good food and comfortable room. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Gym is ok if a bit dated but generally a very nice place would stay again.

Every aspect of our experience was touched by quality and the staff were perfect examples of how customers should be treated. It is well worth recording our delight because it has occurred every time we have been to the hotel

I night with family and friends to view a car launch in Kendal, a very clean and comfortable hotel and room, very helpful staff they booked a taxi in to town for us only £5 each way, if it was a nice evening we would have done the 20 min walk, good swimming pool and steam room. Breakfast was good and very busy the chef had a job to keep the food coming, book in a deal to get breakfast it is expensive. A very nice well stocked relaxing Bar, will use again in the not to distant future.

Always made welcome , in my opinion by the Best trained staff in all Hotels i have visited , this is a must if you want a relaxing weekend .First Class Restaurant for evening meal and the Best breakfast you will get for miles around ,both meals are made from local produce .

We have been visiting The Castle Green for 15 year's, A progressive forward thinking hotel constantly making improvements whilst maintaining a customer focused service. Stayed for my partners 50th birthday. We were allocated a room a the back overlooking a bit of a garden but on full view of the building behind that the staff used so immediately had to shut the blinds which left the room very dark. Pool ok steam room ok. Dined in Alexanders food great though night affected by a drunk couple with terrible language who should have been asked to leave. Breakfast not good very over cooked. Staff were fine. The waiter in alexanders was fabulous. They had a group on in the function room which was entertaining. Wouldn't return though and cost a lot of money

Very nice frontage. Lovely Gardens but that doesn't make it a BW Premier. Reception gabbled on 19 to the dozen and half of it went over our heads. Room was nothing special - and very noisy late at night. The shower was disgusting with black mould on the tiles and top of the shower tray Biggest bug bear was that there was no mention at all of dietary restrictions and if it hadn't been for the lovely young man in the adjacent bar and restaurant. I would have gone hungry. I reiterate not up to BW Premier Standards at all

The Castle Green Hotel was a great venue to hold our wedding reception. Great location for accessibility and great surroundings (the gardens are beautiful). The whole planning experience with the Castle Green team was straightforward and stress free, communication was excellent, made for a great experience. The day itself was hosted perfectly and went to plan, the restaurant service for our wedding breakfast was first class, the food was superb. Would highly recommend!! All of our guests commented about how good an experience they had at the hotel during their stay.

Just a 3 night stay here. We booked a Garden Room and were allocated room 217 at the front of the hotel overlooking the well kept garden and with a view to the hills. There was a balcony which would have been nice to use in summer but had no appeal in the inclement weather this October. Would have been better to choose the bath option in hindsight. No worries. The room and en suite shower room area were spotlessly clean and fresh. Room facilities available as proffered all good quality and welcomed. The shower room was however very compact and on hindsight we would have preferred to forgo the balcony for the bath option and I assume a more spacious bathroom area. The shower itself though was excellent and toiletries of good quality. Not a large enough area after showering to towel dry and leave a dry floor even for medium built guests ,like us. The room was spacious enough for our needs and during our stay was peaceful during daytime and evening even although the hotel appeared to be very busy. So we had comfortable nights sleep in a comfy bed with good pillows and blackout curtains if drawn. Breakfast was available either to order or on a buffet basis. The Breakfast staff were very attentive, efficient helpful and friendly providing a first class service. Thanks. Plenty of choice available and always an enjoyable start to our day. We lunched out on our travels around this beautiful area returning each evening to eat in Alexander's the pub/restaurant adjoining the hotel. We did not eat in the Hotel's own restaurant which we judged to be over expensive, so can make no comment on the food there. Alexander's provided good choice of pub dining in pleasant pub surroundings although we were disappointed to find there was no wood burning cosiness of a fire in a dreich October evening to sit by for a drink. However that didn't spoil our evenings. Normally we would also eat out at nearby restaurants and we picked this hotel thinking it was a fairly easy walk into Kendal for a choice of pub, restaurants and entertainment. After driving into Kendal and back to the Hotel 4 or 5 times we realised that the walk to and from Kendal was not as easy as had been suggested in reviews. Especially the return walk which was up a gradient for over a mile. This put us off venturing out on a dark October evening night so we didn't actually walk the walk as it were. You'll have to judge for yourselves, just be wary it is not a short stroll into Kendal centre. The Hotel is situated in a good location to see the sights of the Lakes area. We enjoyed our stay there.

Had a fabulous family lunch here where we all enjoyed everything about our meals and experience so we returned as a couple for an evening meal....the food and service fabulous ... nothing was too much trouble and the food once again was excellent. We will be returning soon to try their afternoon tea. We would most certainly recommend.

Had a 3 night stay. The hotel was lovely, room was spotlessly clean and staff polite and attentive. Ate in Alexander's pub, nice but prices are high ( although you expect this for quality). Fantastic breakfast, lovely variety of food on offer and some dishes cooked to order. Would recommend and would definitely return.

Arrived for two nights with family to attend a wedding of a very close friend. We had dinner in the adjacent restaurant (Alexanders) on arrival and thereafter we were with the main party. We were a family party of five of whom one was wheelchair bound and another immobile using a rollator. Access for these two was difficult and parking for disabled was hardly sufficient. Shamefully disabled places were taken up by vehicles not displaying blue badges. In our case the cars had to driven to the hotel reception area to unload and parked at a lower based car park. Our room for two had a lovely view towards the Lake District but perhaps a little small. We did find the showering arrangements rather constrained but acceptable for a short stay. The reception staff were particularly helpful in getting us settled. The evening dinner was excellent and as for the main event, the wedding, the arrangements were absolutely wonderful making the stay very memorable and enjoyable. It seemed a good venue for access to the Lake District. We did find difficulties with the wheel chair and general access for it but help was usually present.

Had a one night stay here as we were photographing an event in the function room the following day.This previous manor house has become a warm and welcoming bolt hole. It is snuggled away in its own grounds. The staff are friendly and helpful.Our room was situated overlooking the beautiful front gardens. It had recently been refurbished to a very high standard with a first rate en-suite.There is a beautiful woodland walk that is easily accessible from the rear of the hotel.We dined in the Greenhouse and what an excellent meal that was. The food is locally sourced with an excellent choice for any appetite! The breakfast offers a wide range of food, the only ( and this is just me!) snag was that the cooked breakfast is a buffet. Although there was plenty of other options. As I mentioned earlier we were working in the function room , it was set up beautifully, the staff were very helpful doing their upmost to deliver a very high standard. Afternoon tea was served which again was excellent. My only regret....We didn't stay longer! Thank you to all who work there for making our stay memorable.

This is one class hotel with great staff and a good grill bar with a good selection of food on the menu. The garden room we were in had a great view over the garden and the hills overlooking Kendal. The bed was very comfortable and big . The bar food was good and a good portion the service was really good with friendly help full staff.

Had a two night stay. Room was comfortable. Swimming pool was nice to use especially to clear cobwebs from night before. We ate in the restaurant by reception. We did book a table for 9 and it was a good job we did as it was busy. We opted for the Tasting menu with wine flight and both the food and the wine were excellent as was the port with the cheese. Staff very friendly and nothing too much trouble for them

Good, we had a brilliant weekend. We were in Kendal for a wedding and the only hotel available was this one, albeit it was probably twice the price as most of the others. We were not disappointed. The staff were fantastic, and nothing was a problem when asking for assistance or information. The breakfast was really good. Will certainly be back.

Wonderful from start to finish , staff very attentive, service was top notch and the food was delicious the barbeque on the terrece was exceptional as was everything we ate, the afternoon tea is a absolute must and stunning rooms

Stayed here a couple of times now with my family. Great hotel. Clean and up to date. Great family rooms. Great breakfast. Great service from the friendly staff. Nice lounge and bar area to relax in. Would highly recommend as a good base for either exploring the Lake District or just winding down.

We had a most enjoyable mid week break here which finished today. From our warm welcome to our fast checkout, nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful staff. Our bedroom was comfortable and had a shower room instead of a bath as requested. Special mention must go to the amazing restaurant staff. The taster menu with accompanying wines was exceptionally thought out as were the a la carte choices. Well done to the restaurant manager who matched the wines and to all staff, especially Nicky who kept everything flowing with charm and good humour. The set menu which changed every evening was superb and excellent value for money. We highly recommend this hotel with its beautiful grounds and position as a gateway to the Lakes. Bertie 41

A very clean and modern hotel with great walks and gardens.all the staff were very helpful during our stay.the rooms are very clean and well appointed,We had a room with a balcony which is great just a pity about the rain !! so could not use it the pool,steam room and gym are worth a visit.the breakfast is very very comprehensive to say the least. Alexanders the on site pub/restaurant was a disappointment,slow service ok food and high drink prices, but apart from that its a good hotel to stay at. Not to far from Kendal town center

Fantastic hotel set in beautiful gardens with lots of amenities, perfect for our recent office team building event. Highly organised, friendly and extremely professional staff seamlessly checked in our team of 34 with no request too much trouble. We had independently organised a Murder Mystery Night and the hotel staff worked with the actors to provide a fantastic night of entertainment. Bedrooms are large, clean and beds amazingly comfortable. Restaurant and bar area relaxing, with views of the beautiful gardens. Spa and pool an added bonus and used by many of our team. Great hotel for parties of any size. Looking forward to staying again.

We had a brief one night stay at the hotel and we found that everything from the check in to the time we left to be perfect. The room we had was high quality and very clean. An excellent breakfast choice for all tastes. All the staff were very friendly and helpful to make your stay as good as possible with Nicola even helping us when leaving the hotel with a cheery smile :)

Lovely setting good quality rooms was only there for one night but thoroughly enjoyed it. Location good setting good. Staff were pleasant and check in and out was done quickly and hassle free. Would definitely recommend a visit there it's not cheap but if you like comfort worth the little extra

Good impression on arrival as hotel is in lovely grounds. Plenty of parking. Friendly and efficient reception area. Bedroom was smart and bed was extra large and very comfortable. Breakfasts were very good. Evening meals also very good but a little expensive. Wine was so expensive by the glass that we had to buy a bottle! If visiting Kendal again I would definitely stay at this hotel

My family and I visited the Castle Green Hotel for a Wedding Reception and stay on Saturday 2nd September. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist after the ascent of the hotel steps from the main car park area. Not for the elderly or unfit due to the hotel being on a cliff side. If you visit drive to reception to drop any luggage before parking up! The room was very nice, immaculately clean, had a bath and no problems there except for the view which was just a grassed bankside but that was not important to my family. After checking in we went to the start of the reception and I visited the bar for the first time. Peroni, my favourite drink was £4 for a small bottle! Disgusting as it only costs £1.20 at the cash and carry! Lager was from £4.20 a pint! Astonishing? After that shock we were invited into the main reception room. Once again a very nice venue and lovely and clean. There was a 3 course meal book d which was rumoured to cost £100 a head! There were approx 150 people there! Everyone seemed happy with the starter course and then it happened! My choice was beef which was requested by the bride groom to be "properly cooked". We were fortunate enough to be an early table to be served and were presented with a cold, small portion of barely cooked beef which a good vet could have resurrected! The potatoes were Farm Foods of Nettos finest and I got 2! I spoke to multiple staff members and even they were embarrassed with the rubbish that was served! I was also not allowed any extra potatoes as they were all spoken for! I felt for the bride groom as even he was very upset with what was served! After travelling 100mile and served rubbish that was our day spoilt! After the function we all had good sleep in the lovely room. Sunday morning, time for breakfast. Only complaint here was I tasted the worse sausages ever in my 48 years on this planet! They must have been to Farm Foods or Netto again? I had enough of the food at this hotel and was happy to escape! Apart from the good the hotel is nice although not suitable for unfit, elderly or disabled people. What I am going to tell you now takes some believing! My wife's grandmother is 102 and In a wheelchair. Although the family booked a disabled friendly room, they were astonished to find that she was placed in a second floor room with approx 150m to cover as well as multiple flights of stairs and doors to open and close! Also no lift available! I am glad I was not dealing with that complaint! Castle Green sort your catering and drinks prices and you will do well! You were lucky to get 3 stars if it wasn't for your nice room!

Lovely hotel in a superb setting and location. Our room was huge and well furnished and tea and coffee facilities amply provided. Service was good, breakfast excellent and pool super. A great stay overall.

Staying in Kendal for a few days as it was our wedding anniversary so booked a table at the Castle Green after reading reviews and noting that it had a 'Double Rosette' for its food. Having been in 'Single Rosette' restaurants before we have to say this was a disillusionment in dining experience. The restaurant itself has no wow factor and we felt we were in a large canteen especially when a group of business men came in wearing less than casual dress (ripped jeans & tee shirts). Sorry to sound a snob but really there should be some standard dress: at least smart jeans and even a short sleeve sheet policy. The meal was not spectacular either; the steak was okay but nothing special as was the belly pork (have had better) along with limited vegetables. Had a trio of glass desserts which where yummy and the wine we had chosen was good. But at £96 a very, very disappointing evening.

Stayed 2 nights here in August. My Mother had stayed here in the past and suggested we return. Very happy that we did! It was better than I expected and well worthy of the Best Western Plus title. Food is Devine in both the restaurant and the bar area. There is also a gastro pub less than 80m from reception that is part of the complex, had a drink there but didn't eat. Menu looked outstanding. Cannot say a bad thing about the place. Probably deserves a 5 dot review.

Bedroom was spotless and staff very friendly. Food excellent. The only thing that was a let down was the view from our window. We paid good money for two nights and this was our only issue. Picture of our view which was room 154. we would definitely go back but would ask for a room with a view next time.

This was our second visit to Castle Green. The check in was pleasant and efficient. Room on first floor, but lift was available. Room had large screen tv on wall. Bathroom with shower. Free wi fi. Outlook was the rear of the hotel. Kettle, coffee, biscuits etc. Breakfast had plenty of choices as buffet, with some options cooked on request. All staff pleasant and efficient. Our only problem was guests next door being noisy, one night between midnight and 1 o'clock, but then not the hotel's fault for not having soundproof rooms! We ate at Alexander's a pub within the grounds and a deprecate review.

My 14 year old daughter and I came midweek for a break in the Lakes. We stayed in Room 235. The room was.comfortable, clean, plenty of space, quiet, overlooking the gardens, lovely bathroom, towels plenty, linen clean. We had breakfast each morning which was delicious. There was plenty to choose from, the staff where very attentive. We used the Swimming pool and steam room everyday, children are only allowed in the pool twice a day which wasn't a problem for us. On the whole, yes we did pay a bit extra to stay here but that's what you expect from a corporate company. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, really enjoyed our stay.

Can't fault this hotel, it's in a beautiful setting. We recently had a family weekend break here (age range 2 - 86). The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The hotel itself was furnished to a high standard and spotlessly clean, a real credit to the staff working there. The bedrooms were modern with good wifi connection and connecting doors which proved useful. We had tea and coffee making facilities in our room. Breakfast was very good, full English made from locally sourced produce. Omelettes or poached eggs to order, fabulous. We ate in the bar several times during our stay, the food was very good, as was the bar service. Can recommend the fish and Thai curry. Hotel guests have access to the pool and gym facilities located on the ground floor. The gym had a good range of exercise equipment and the pool was big enough. Again the areas very clean and well maintained. This is a great base from which to tour the lakes, after a days sightseeing you can chill out at the hotel. We will definitely return. I have stayed in Kendla many times for business and have been fortunate enough to stay in the Castle Green most of those times. The hotel is really good: it has a bar and restaurant plus a separate pub serving meals. There is a gym and pool and the TV reception and internet are very good. The breakfast is one of the very best I've had in hotels (and I stay away a lot). It's all capped off by very friendly, helpful staff. I would strongly reommend staying here if you're visitng Kendal or the surrounding area.

We decided to have short break and decided to start in Kendal the Castle Green hotel was a great choice as it had everything we needed, the room was great the breakfast was also very good just what we have come to expect from Best Western. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

We came for a friend's wedding so thought we'd swallow the expense for that reason. Our slightly reduced rate was confirmed by email but we were incorrectly charged on arrival - reimbursed on check out. We didn't notice at first as, after a six hour drive, we were desperate for food. The pub was full so we were obliged to eat in the restaurant. We weren't told that we could have had bar food at a lot less expense. Perhaps there the bread rolls wouldn't have been stale. The room. Clean, but we have stayed in more attractive Travelodges. Nice view over (and noise from) the air conditioning system. Tiny and NOISY shower. The breakfast was nice, not wow, but boy those sausage skins take some chewing! Staff nice and helpful, but some need to moderate their voices - we don't need to hear them bickering or showing off.

On arrival the grounds were lovely, plenty of parking and easy to access. Once inside first impressions were very good. We stayed in a standard room and once we saw the rooms me and my partner were disappointed as the price we paid should not be so high for what you got. The room was decorated to a nice standard and very clean!! but it was not what we expected for a 4 star. It was very very small. You could hardly walk around the room as there wasnt much space. Getting out of bed on oneside and you was practically in the wardrobe. Not enough space for 2 people!! Not worth the price. The shower was tiny. You couldnt wash without banging your arms on the walls. Could hardly turn!! The whole bathroom was very small. Breakfast was ok. Lots of variety. Every morning i had to clean my cup and plate though. Not what you want at a four star. Food at alexanders and the hotel was expensive and not that good tbh. Menu not brilliant either. We drove 5 mins away to Romney's which was fab and the centre is the same difference Drinks prices at the hotel are ridiculous. Shouldnt charge them prices when rooms are so expensive. Disappointed with the pool. Not very big or relaxing. Very clean though! Was Looking forward to this bit the most but didnt do it for us. Not worth it! Overall a nice stay but i would not return as you feel cheated for the price. And its not worth the money. Stayed at hotels of a lower star and a cheaper price and got better and more higher class facilities with bigger hotel rooms!! Yeah everyone mentions about the surrounding areas etc but i dont pay to sleep outside. If its a 4 star i want 4 star!!

I usually stay here in a refurbushed modern style room. However on this recent stay, I was put in one of the end rooms which was very old fashioned and needed a refurb. Very basic and ugly decor. I did ask if I could switch rooms however no one got back to me. As you can see from the pics, this room is not worth over £100+ per night, nor 4* qaulity. On a more positive note - the location of the hotel is nice. The food and service at Alexander's is very good.

Stayed here on a five night package. Everything about the hotel was excellent with all the staff being friendly and helpful. Only downside was difficult access for wheelchair user to gardens but the weather didn't help either! Would definitely treat ourselves to another visit!

Stayed at Castle Green August 2017, I called a few days before and asked them to put a birthday package together as it was my partners birthday followed by mine. When we got there the receptionists were so welcoming and the room had a card, banner and ballons one with my partners name on - it was a lovely surprise for him and the cost was very reasonable. The room was lovely and big with a massive bed. Breakfast was amazing nothing was to much trouble, you name it they did it. One night I had an unsettled stomach and at 1145pm my partner rang reception and asked for mint tea bags, he came back with them and honey, they did offer to bring it to the room. We ate in Alexanders restaurant which was lovely and we also had drinks, tea and cakes during our stay in the main bar. The newspapers we ordered were hanging on our door from early morning, there were other newspapers in reception also. The sauna and pool were lovely and relaxing. What can I say it was perfect. Even if we had a problem, which we didn't we know they would do everything in their power to put it right. Thank you to you all for a perfect birthday stay and keep up the good work. The good news is you were amazing, the bad news is we'll be back soon!!!

We stayed in The Castle Green Hotel as a birthday treat from my parents. We have been coming to this hotel for over 10 years upto 3 times a year & have always had an amazing time!!!! We had the special Sunday offer which is dinner bed & breakfast. My parents & my brother his girlfriend & their baby stayed too. My patents were in one of the suites which are amazing. Our rooms were standard but were lovely too. The Greenhouse Restaurant is literally one of our favourite restaurants. The food is exceptional every time. Breakfast is always a very high standard the breakfast buffet is constantly being topped up & the food is delicious. All of the staff are so friendly & professional.

Booked into the Hotel for a nice weekend break with my partner - check in was easy - a lovely clean room with a great view over the gardens. Alexanders Pub was great - such a shame the main bar in the hotel doesn't serve the same guest ales. Food was superb through out! Hopefully will be coming back very soon !!

His hotel is beautiful inside and out. I booked one night with my two children as a stopover before checking into our accommodation in Windermere. Paid extra for DBB but turns out I still had to pay for the kids dinner? If travelling with kids and want to use the pool, be advised they can only use it a couple of hours in the morning and again in the afternoon. Which happens to be right in the middle of the check in and check out times!!!!! Breakfast was lovely but ordered toast for the kids and we are still waiting for it. Let down an otherwise cracking experience. This could easily have had a 5 star otherwise!! Plus sides, clean, fresh, food is amazing, good variety of food and drink, beautiful scenery and ample parking. Would stay again but would be better advised of the cons

We held our wedding at the hotel last week and it surpassed all of our expectations. From the planning through to the day the level of attention and care was to be commended. We had a small group of around 30 but never felt left to it. Our suite was magnificent...if you do book for a wedding..you have to really! I wont spoil any surprises but from food (assembling our impromptu breakfast gathering) to housekeeping we always felt we were amongst friends and not another wedding. That is a rare thing these days and very hard to get right. This team deserve the praise. The hotel is busy at peak season with bus trips and yet we never felt that. Facilities are spotless. Cant recommend highly enough.

Another fantastic stay for our anniversary. During this visit we had afternoon tea for the first time. This, along with Everything else was...perfect. What more can I say? Except ... Thank you to everyone at Castle Green.

Booked into the Castle Green Hotel for a nice weekend break with the good lady wife. On first looks this seemed to be a good value for money but found out it wasn't. The room (211) was very small with little cupboard space to hang your clothes. No bath, only a small shower and I mean a small shower. Another down point was that there was no iron in the room so that you could iron your clothes. On the up side the view from the room was very picturesque overlooking the hotel gardens. The restaurants at the hotel were first class, exceptional food and fantastic service by the friendly staff. The health suite was adequate with a nice swimming pool and steam room but could have done with a sauna. The gym was quite good with plenty of gym equipment. The big question was it worth the £390 for two nights bed and breakfast?????? I have to say no but it is a nice hotel and very picturesque.

The hotel brochure tells us that this is the twentieth anniversary of its being built. The facilities remain very good although the bathroom would be improved by a having a better shower and a non-slip bath1 Garden-facing rooms have beautiful views (as does the restaurant) but rooms facing the inner courtyard are rather dreary. The restaurant food was, for the most part, very good and the wine was served at the proper temperature (by a Romanian waiter who took a great deal of pride in his work).

We stayed here with my V.I.P dad (visually impaired person). Although the main hotel is on the level to get to the second more relaxed restaurant you had to use either a series of ramps or a set of stairs with a turn halfway down and a diagonal step. Not a problem for a normal sighted person but for one who is almost totally blind and not good on there feet, it's not ideal. We ended up having to drive the 300 yards to Alexanders as even the main drive has speed ramps,as real obstacle. The food was OK in the pub, but nothing special and the prices were quite high. The greenhouse restaurant is better and good as it's on the level in the main hotel. A word of warning about the pool! It is all one depth, although the bottom is not level by any means. It's quite small and is 1.5 m deep throughout. So not great if as a family you have little ones that are not confident swimmers. A few spaces for disabled cars, but at the pub the disabled spaces are further away than the standard parking space? There is also parking for those with "difficulty with steps" however in practice these are on a steep hill! With a rain gully halfway down! And in practice are filled by people who are more than able to walk and use steps but can't be bothered, to walk a bit further. The staff were lovely with no request too much of a problem. And all tasks carried out with efficiency and politeness.

This hotel holds a special place for my partner and I. We have just come back from our third weekend away here and loved it just as much. The staff are always friendly and great, the food at the Green House is exceptional and we look forward to it every time. We had spa treatments for the first time and I have to say, the massage and facial that I had were one of the best I've ever received. Thanks Jess! We love using the gym there too! Only comment - breakfast time seemed to lack in quality in comparison to previous years but they were busy. We had to ask for our table butter and then for the milk as it was an old jug. The Coffee wasn't really hot either. But, like I said it was only a small comment only notable due to the high standards we are used to here. The hot food was great!

We stayed here for one night and found the hotel and its pub in the grounds to be very nice with attentive service. It was a beautiful summers night and the view of the countryside when sitting at the front of hotel is stunning. A very nice setting for a hotel. The hotel public areas and bedrooms look like they've all been upgraded recently - all high quality. We went to bed quite content but then we were woken at 06.30 by the sound of fans or something similar and that's when we realised what was outside our room - see the photos attached. So our peaceful night's sleep was ended abruptly - how to spoil an otherwise nice stay! We were in room 252 so if you are staying here I'd make sure that you don't end up in that room or an adjacent room, or in the rooms below.

We have stayed at the Castle Green a number of times now and have never been disappointed . The hotel staff are very pleasant and professional .The food is of the highest standard,the hotel is spotlessly clean .I recommend The Castle Green 100%.

My husband and myself had a chateaubriand, it was perfect, the Greenhouse Restaurant is a lovely relaxing place. Great views looking out towards Kendal, very attentive staff, but not too much. This visit was a birthday present from my boss, his wife and little boy Arthur, so a big thank you to them. This is a place we will be returning to and recommending.

Booked directly with the hotel which turned out to be much better value than through usual booking sites. Lovely room, fab dinner and an excellent breakfast. The young staff team were helpful and friendly. Only issue might be for the less mobile - check your room is on an accessible floor at the time of booking.

Pleasant staff and hotel with nice grounds and plenty of free parking. Lifts not available to all floors. Nice free health and fitness gym and pool. Towels supplied. We stayed because of the Herbalife training. The dinner was great but not enough waiters ensured slow service.

We stayed here to get away for a few day and relax and we did just that. The rooms were adequate could of done with slight updating but that's my personal opinion. The only reason I have given it a four and not a five is because the restaurant food, it is no where near value for money and think it was expensive for what you got. And the leisure facilities only had pool and steam room, again in my opinion should of had more we only stayed 20mins in pool lol. With that being said, it was an absolutely beautiful location, staff were so polite and helpful. Thanks for a well deserved break castlegreen. Xx

We stayed three nights leaving on a Saturday, and had a lovely time. The hotel is situated on the outskirts of the town and so we did need to drive into Kendal, rather than walk. Our double room was clean and neat, nicely decorated. We only had a shower in the bathroom, and at booking had had the option to state a preference of shower or shower over bath, as well as the bed configuration - double or twin. It's worth noting if you prefer to have a bath when you go away. The hotel had a swimming pool 9m x 5m I think, as well as a steam room, and a very well equipped gym. There are restricted hours for children using the pool which we were grateful for as it meant we could choose to swim at times when we were able to swim up and down without spoiling anyone's fun. The changing rooms also had a spin dryer for wet clothes - a very welcome asset. There are two restaurants on site. The slightly more formal Greenhouse restaurant (booking advisable) where the a la carte menu was very nice. Tables were not too close together, so conversations were not overheard and the food was, as you might expect, of a more modern "cordon bleu" style. We both enjoyed our meals, portion sizes were not large. We also ate at the more informal "inn" style eatery, down one level on site. Again, we both enjoyed meals that were tasty, hot and exactly what we expected. The hotel also has a function suite where weddings are held so it was a bit busier on the Friday night, and no doubt would be on Saturday. The grounds are lovely, and we had a walk around the gardens which are very well maintained. All in all, a very nice place for a well placed break for exploring the Lake District.

Visited the Castle Green Hotel as a couple and it was just what we were looking for. Clean, quiet, with a lovely surrounding area and very polite, attentive staff. We ate at the 'pub' style restaurant which was very nice - a good selection of classic pub style dishes and staff were very efficient. We did not make use of the leisure facilities but we did go down and look and they appeared clean and well equipped. The pool was a decent size. Overall a pleasant hotel, in a fabulous location (about a 20 minute walk into Kendal town, and 20-30 minute drive to Windermere) that was simply just what we wanted. Would definitely visit again.

Me and hubby booked this hotel for our anniversary. The staff were very friendly and attentive they did everything possible to make our stay a pleasure. The gym and pool were lovely again the staff were good showed us around and explained everything. We booked a table in the on site pub Alexandrias where again the staff were very polite and attentive, the food was lovely. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the breakfast was excellent. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

A one night stay for a couple attending a function at the hotel. Let's start by saying that there was nothing spectacularly wrong with the hotel. It was clean, well maintained and had majority of facilities. It was just that for the price (which was a special rate for the function apparently) and the indication this was a premier hotel of the chain I expected more. So here goes why: Arrival was polite and registration swift however our room did not have lift access and was on the 2nd floor and we had several bags. The fitness facilities were small, almost like an add on after thought. The decor in the room was dated. We had a twin room which was obviously previously a double as the headboard was a sort of apex. This meant when I sat up the ridge was right in the back of my head. There was no hotel directory in our room. There was a stuffed teddy bear who says he likes to travel and please take his sleeping bag from reception before he goes...costing £9! The toilet flush was unresponsive and took multiple attempts. The shower was sporadic, both in terms of volume and temperature. All little things that for a room costing over £150 for one night and in a premier hotel I expect more. Apart from location, a Premier Inn is better appointed, greater value for money and the breakfasts are comparable. The final element was when on checkout, the receptionist asked a housekeeper who had just arrived about the front of house toilets and a 'debate' ensued about how busy the housekeeper was and she couldn't do this or that. I'm stood waiting for my VAT receipt whilst this is taking place in view and earshot. All in all, nothing that was catastrophic but definitely left me wishing I'd saved £100 and booked elsewhere or even a B&B. Unless you get prices consistent with Premier INn or lower, I wouldn't stay here.

A great hotel the staff were great nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant and bars offer a choice of food which was beautifully cooked and presented. The rooms were of a high standard. In the main restaurant the meals are quite small I would suggest 3 courses if your very hungry! It's well worth it.

We have been guests here since 2012 and we love the hotel. Our recent stay was in a garden room which had a balcony lovely to sit in the sunshine with the beautiful garden view. The staff are so well trained and everyone is brilliant from check in to bar staff and in the restaurant both at evneing meal and breakfast. We remember Robert starting there and he goes from strength to strength. Our evening meal was fabulous great wuality food , presented to a high standard. Hope to visit again soon.

We booked this hotel as s stop over enroute to Scotland. I must say that we were very pleasantly surprised. We booked a suite and it was clean, in period style and overlooked the gardens, really lovely We decided on going to the restaurant as it was getting late, and although the service was a bit quirky, and a wee bit odd, the food was outstanding and we highly recommend it. We will use this as a stop over in future Very impressed. Staff friendly and very helpful

Visually stunning from the exterior, the Castle Green benefits from a good location not too far from Kendal town centre (25-30 minutes walk) and just a short drive from Windermere (15 minutes drive). The staff were helpful on arrival, and there were plenty of facilities available - tea/coffee in the room, iron, toiletries. The bed is THE most comfortable bed I've ever slept in - full stop. Unfortunately that's as far as the positives go. I assume our room was not one of the advertised "recently refurbished" ones, as the decor would be attractive only to a nostalgic granny. Tired carpets, tweed-like chairs, a TV from Argos' bargain-bin (a decade ago), old furniture - you get the picture. The pictures do make it look much 'fresher', our first reaction was that of being pretty underwhelmed. No air-con means stuffy nights, and it wasn't even hot when we stayed. This could all be forgiven, but then there's the shower. To give credit where it's due, the bathroom was spotless and the most modern part of the room. However, the shower... never before have I known a shower's temperature deviate between "midnight Arctic ice-bath" to "Sun's inner core" so often. Okay, so a slight exaggeration, but the shower was just unpleasant. Old, spluttering, mix of ice-cold and scalding hot. When booking a room, it can't be too much to ask for a decent place to clean? It's in dire need of repair, lest someone else is tormented by it. In all seriousness, I couldn't deter someone from booking here - IF they get a good deal like we did. I would have been annoyed to pay the full asking price, but at our rate it was decent enough and well located enough that we fully enjoyed our time in the Lakes. If you're looking for something special, consider looking around a little more. (As a small side-note, we didn't eat here so I can't comment on the food.)

We booked this last minute for a weekend break. The staff on reception were lovely and very welcoming when we arrived. The room was clean and modern, with a big tv and nice bathroom. We were impressed with the gym facilities and the sauna. We used the pool everyday. We ate at the main restaurant in the hotel and couldn't fault the food. We had 3 courses and each one was beautiful! We couldn't recommend it more. Would definitely stay here again if we were visiting this area.

This hotel is superbly smart and comfortable with excellent facilities and plenty of car parking. We had a generous double room with luxury en suite (shower only) with everything we could need including the telly and coffee facilities. The pool was open and warm, the steam room great and the gym well equipped. The pub is lovely and we even did the forest walk which we enjoyed. Friendly helpful staff too. It's clean, friendly, luxurious and I would definitely stay again. Location is pretty, on the edge of Kendal- which is a gorgeous town- all in all very pleased with our choice.

Stayed there on a Sunday night deal, what good value, excellent service and such a fantastic bedroom, fabulous Beds great bathroom huge television on the wall but did not use it as we sat in the bar with friends which was great with good beers and wine. An hotel I have used on several occasions when travelling to Scotland. Very nice comfortable rooms, superb evening meals with views over a fabulous garden and if the weather is good to Kendal castle. Arrive after three hours drive or five hours if you were unfortunate enough to use the M6 Great room, comfortable beds,, nice bar, little drink, just to unwind you understand. Excellent evening meal perhaps another little drink sleep like a log, wonderful breakfast. Almost looking forward to another four hours behind the wheel to north of Scotland

Great hotel, very pleasant staff, from the leisure facilities too the room too the outside area all excellent, also kendel is a great little town , we also had an evening meal at one off the hotel, s restaurant called Alexander, it was decent little place food was at a decent standard and service was decent, one criticism was it is very cramped it's difficult to have a private conversation as the other customers are more or less sitting next too you , this is an expensive hotel at 180 pound for one nigh although it was a Saturday night, are room was 135, one criticism off the hotel the furniture is a little dated plus the television definitely needed to be updated. But we will definitely be back. P.S check out time is 12 which is brilliant

Without doubt a highly popular hotel in a lovely edge of town location on a hillside overlooking the town. The hillside location means there may be some difficulty for the less able. The restaurants and interior décor were lovely, Choice of 3 eating places..Reception were pleasant and efficient. Rooms were very pleasant and very well maintained. There is a leisure complex with pool. We had one quite serious problem. ROOM ACCESS. The rooms are built on multiple levels. There is oe small passenger elevator going beteween ground,first and second levels. Al other areas seem to have no elevator,the stairs are steep and difficult. If you have any mobility problems at all you should ask for accessible room before confirming the booking..In our case the reception reassigned our room when we could not reach ours but this might not always be possible. DO CHECK !

I have spent the last 7 weeks travelling Scotland, Wales and Northern England staying in many hotels, guest houses and B&B's with some exemplary service at a lot of them. Booked two nights bed and breakfast at this hotel through booking.com for the last two nights, and after payment was taken, we were then informed by the hotel that breakfast was to be charged as an expensive extra. Management was not interested in helping to rectify this with booking.com. With the heat of the past few days, was surprised at no air conditioning. Windows open and small fan made little difference to a stuffy room. Towels not replaced as requested - rehung and still wet next day. Light bulb fell from bed light when first turned on. Food fair. Overall very disappointing experience.

Hi. Just spent two nights at this hotel on the hottest two days of the year. Nothing adverse to report about this hotel. Greeting at reception could have been a bit more friendly from what looked like an east European girl. Stayed in executive room and being so hot, was surprised that there is no air con in the rooms - a small fan was provided upon request but really for the money charged here it should be air conditioned or a ceiling fan at least. Other negative- dated television and no SKY. Apart from that, can't really fault it. The staff in the restaurant really friendly and happy to please. Good selection of foods. Ate at the on site pub one evening which was also excellent. Bars were nice and not overpriced in my opinion. Refreshing to see "John Smiths" bitter on tap too... All in all, I'd recommend this place and the Lake District in general ...

A comfortable hotel with a good standard of cleanliness in the rooms and very friendly reception staff. Breakfast was average, service was slow and the kitchen seemed unable to cope with an order from the "extras" menu. However, we had a problem with our room and the housekeeping staff moved us without a quibble. Not only were we moved, but when we returned from our day out we discovered that we had been upgraded to a suite. Many thanks to all involved. Ate at Alexanders, the food was average fayre, but the staff were friendly and efficient and service was good.

Had booked dinner, bed and breakfast for three nights. We booked this because we thought the walk to the town was going to be too much for us and I didn't want to drive after wining and dining. The dinner allowance was 30GBP per night. One dinner was in the main hotel, and was adequate, but on the second night we ate at Alexanders, which was awful - the service was terrible. My wife and I were presented with different menus and when this was pointed out to the waitress she was supposed to replace one with the correct menus but this didn't arrive until after a long wait, and I had to flag flag down the apparent manager. Another problem was that to use our dinner allowance we had to order the most expensive item on the menu, so I cannot recommend booking the DB&B option. As for the room, it was very small, almost jail-cell-like and the bathroom was so small that the door had to be closed to allow access to the sink. The only good thing about the room was that it had a balcony and chairs which was a delight since the weather was good. I certainly wouldn't return.

We had 2 nights at this hotel in a very comfortable room. Breakfasts and dinners in house were very good. We used the restaurant/bar and the main dining room. Free parking on site including disabled bays. Highly recommend.

We had a long weekend break at the Castle Green Hotel Kendal which we very much enjoyed The location of the hotel requires a car or taxi if you want to visit the town of Kendal if you dont like 25 minutes walk down hill and 35 minutes up hill. We very much enjoyed the walk but may not suit everyone. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful well maintained gardens which allows for a pleasant stroll The staff are attentive and very helpful throughput thd hotel. We ate in both restaurants the Alexander bar and the main restaurant. Our. preference was the main restaurant but be sure to book as we were unable to book a table on our first night The main restaurant menue was very appealing and delivery the quality and taste to match We stayed in room 104 which was very comfortable the room was more of a suite and very well laid out, the only downside was the lack of natural light and no view of the stunning views. So make sure you book a front facing room.

The hotel is a decent one with rooms that are small but comfortable. Unfortunately, the linen was not clean - a bad smell that could have been the result of poorly washed bed sheets made the experience of staying rather an unpleasant one. The washroom attached was fine and the sanitary fittings were new and modern. So if you are in Kendal and can insist on sheets that don't smell, this is a good place to stay.

This is a very nice hotel with great grounds and ideal for wedding etc. The hotel staff were extra good and helpful but the restaurant staff have a bit of smartening up to do as they were generally not very pleasant but the food and service was good. The parking at reception need a big update as the park is almost always full which means a big walk from the lower car park which would be no fun in the rain. This is a great place to stay away from the tourist mob in Windermere as there is an excellent train service to Windermere plus the taxi ride to the station was prompt and reasonably priced all arranged by the counter staff.

This is a really well run organised hotel , Staff are polite and most helpful if they cant help they quickly pass you on to someone who can and will help. Our room 129 was spotless bed comfy and easy to use HOT shower view from window was beautiful.The breakfast was well laid out on a help yourselve service although Toast tea and coffee was bought to the table with refills available, Again very pleasant surroundings.The Alexander eating place extra to the hotel restaraunt ate there Friday night was exellent .... unfortunatly not so good Sunday dinner was very dry. The Hotel Pool..Gym ..Steam room and Staff again exellent We shall be returning to this Hotel ASP looking forward to booking our next trip.

This is a modern, functional hotel with pleasant staff and reasonably equipped rooms but very little atmosphere. For a conference or overnight business trip it would tick all the boxes but if you're looking for somewhere with a bit of character I'd go elsewhere. Rooms and communal areas are furnished in a bland, corporate manner more akin to a city centre or airport hotel than one on the edge of the Lake District. Having said that it makes a convenient base for a night or two and provides facilities such as an indoor pool and gym which are a bit of a rarity in the area. Alexander's restaurant provided excellent food (the fish platter especially) served by helpful, attentive and friendly staff. The breakfast in the main restaurant was also good with food cooked to order in addition to the hot buffet. (Manx kippers highly recommended!) Parking is plentiful although the main car park is a bit of a hike up to the hotel. I've given four stars as there was nothing inherently bad about the place but nothing outstanding either!

Stayed here for 1 night with J W Lees team after a team building day. My room was incredible, very spacious and the view from my rooms window was a pleasant bonus. Personally I hate staying away from home but felt very comfortable here. Hotel bar and reception staff were very friendly and provided us with an amazing service. Will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

1st-4th June. Staying in room 225 with my wife. Staff are excellent, very efficient and friendly some of the very best we have met. We used the garden room restaurant and were very impressed with the ala carte menu for our evening meal. The quality of the food is top class with good size portions. The self serve breakfasts were for the most part very good however I have to be a little critical of the breakfast on the Sunday morning; the bacon was overcooked and like cardboard, the mushrooms were over done. That said it did not spoil our weekend. The fillter steak for two carved at the table is a real treat and a must have, one of the best meals we have had anywhere and indeed fine dining. Parking is not a problem but beware that the main car parks are below the hotel down a hill a little therefore its a good idea to unload at reception then park up. Disabled bays are available. Our room was very vice a decent size overlooking the gardens, very clean and well presented. Overall we were very pleased with our stay at this quality hotel situated in a lovely part of Cumbria. Easy access to the M6 motorway and of course to the Lakes.

We visited for here as part of our visit to the lakes for our first wedding anniversary, the arrival experience for myself was poor, someone who arrived after me was checked in prior to me. Once our room was allocated we arrived in the room to find someone else's luggage in our room, we handed it to housekeeping who informed us it was due to room changes in the hotel. We visited Alexanders, the on-site bar and restaurant, the portions were decent and there is a good selection of guest ales. We ate here twice during our stay and the staff were always friendly with good local knowledge. We also visited the greenhouse restaurant, within the main building, for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was fantastic I would fully recommend it, excellent quality. The food in the restaurant for dinner was lovely again, good quality and the service excellent. And the lounge is a nice place to relax after the meal. I can't comment on the fitness area or the pool area as we were visiting the local area and after dinner it was too late but these areas were open to 10 p.m. during our stay. The rooms are clean and tidy and were a good specification, the TV had standard freeview channels and tea / coffee facilities and bottled water in the room. The bathroom was clean and modern. The only thing that let the room down was that on the first day the shower took ages to heat up and on the second day I had to finish washing my hair in the wash basin as the shower took ages to heat up, was warm for about a minute, and then returned to ice cold. On check out I had the same problem as when I arrived, I was stood in reception for a couple of minutes in clear view then someone else arrived in reception and they got checked out before me. I would have brought some of the issues up I had experienced then but no one asked me about my stay. Overall it didn't feel as special as it should have done for our anniversary and I would not visit again. It was just the little things that just let it down like the cold shower, luggage in the room and service at the front desk. However, from other reviews I feel we were just unlucky for our stay, the food is fantastic and the rooms and grounds are lovely and it should be shortlisted if you are looking to stay near the Windermere area.

My first stay at this hotel after a day on a team building exercise in the lakes. Check in was swift and the receptionist was very helpful and accommodating. The hotel surroundings are impressive, modern decor and well kept gardens. My room was clean and facilities were good. The view wasn't great as I was facing the restaurant so I could see diners. We ate in Alexander's bar next to the hotel which was good. There are spa facilities but didn't get a chance to use them. Breakfast in the morning was great with a great choice of continental and buffet. The breakfast staff very helpful and professional. Overall very impressed and can't wait to return.

Lovely picturesque hotel and restaurant ,the inside deco and atmosphere was very tranquil and elegant. Rooms were outstanding and all staff were very friendly. I had a little paddle in the pool and was definitely what was needed for a hot day in Kendal. Steam room was big and great to relax in . We had a meal at the restaurant on site and the food was full of taste and was better than I could imagine. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely weekend in Kendal. Top marks well done all !

The only change from my previous visits was that my room was closer to the restaurant! The room was clean and spacious, the restaurant was first rate, all the staff were helpful. Is it the best hotel in South Lakeland? I wouldn't bet against that.

I stayed here for one night for a hen weekend and I was very impressed with the hotel. The rooms themselves were quite basic but more than adequate for the price that we paid. The staff were excellent and we had the function room for private dining on the Friday night which was fantastic. Breakfast had an amazing amount of choice from cooked to continental. The hotel was 5 mins drive from both town and the train station - very convenient location. All in all, I really enjoyed my short stay at this hotel.

This could be a hotel at an airport in that it has everthing functionally in place that is needed to stay but at a price. The room was clean and functional with two chairs, a table a desk, tea and coffee but with a view over a back wall. The room had a very strange mural over the bed. There was a shower but no bath. We paid £125/night but this did not include breakfast. We booked through Booking.com, who then offered the same hotel cheaper at a later date. We tried to book dinner in the Resteraunt and were told that we could have 9:15pm - what we were not told was that there is a second Resteraunt, Alexanders. This we found by chance and were very pleased with both the reception we received as well as the choice and food we received. Breakfast was served in the restaurant. The staff were good and attentive. If you go off the buffet menu then the portions are "careful" and require several rounds of toast to make it up. As a place to stay it does the job but it lacked atmosphere.

Just home from a 2 night stay here. The hotel is lovely and has beautiful gardens in front of it. The room we stayed in was fab. There wasn't much of a view but in such a lovely part of the country who wants to sit in the hotel room looking out a window. The bed was very comfortable, hot water in abundance and shower was excellent. The room was spotless and very quiet. We ate in Alexanders the first night and the bar lounge the second. Both evenings the food was lovely. Breakfast was great a lot of choices and lovely to have the option of a lie in on a Sunday when breakfast is served until 11am and checkout 12 noon, wish more hotels would follow suit. We would have no hesitation in returning here. Every member of staff we encountered were most helpful and pleasant. Only thing we felt was pricey was alcoholic beverages.

Booked as a treat for mothers day, the surrounding area is lovely, the room clean, quiet and basic. No bath. Steam room and pool clean. No breakfast included in price. Overall a little bit dissapointed, as for the price I was expecting something more than just an average room.

We intended on just staying one night for business but decided on staying 4 nights in all. We found it very clean, lots of choices for breakfasts and all the staff we came across from chambermaids to front of house were very nice and so good to see so many local people employed here.

Met here with extended family. Fabulous meal with great service. Thanks Scott. The flavours were amazing. Some slight confusion when serving the main course as to who ordered the guinea fowl and chicken but didn't upset anything. Fantastic puddings. Really recommend the treacle pudding and a very imaginative menu with flavoursome ingredients. Can't wait to go again.

We stayed here for two nights after completing a car rally. We chose a premium room which was well worth it. The room was spacious and well kept. The bed was large and comfy with nice linens. We had meals in both the more casual 'pub' restaurant and the more formal one in the main building. The taster menu was super and very well matched with the wines, so that was my highlight. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, one or two wee problems were quickly resolved. My only wee gripe was with the hairdryer which really needed updating as I found having to hold the 'on switch' constantly rather painful on my stiff joints! The gardens were stunning and beautifully kept and a lovely place to sit in better weather, they must be very proud of this asset. I would definitely return so that's always my test.

Excellent stay at the Castle Green Hotel. Wonderful staff, happy with food, restaurant manger is a delight. Room was adequate for our needs, comfortable bed, good linen. We asked for a quiet room and they certainly delivered on that front. Our one minor gripe was the receptionist upon arrival, we ask for local bus and train info, she was very disinterested. We found out what we required and resolved this ourselves. We used the bus service with the very informative timetable supplied by the bus operators. Upon leaving we spoke with another receptionist and advised that it would be helpful for the hotel to have a stock of the bus timetables, She replied we do. As I said the initial receptionist was very unhelpful, this did not alter our opinion of the hotel but it does seem odd that the front desk is allowed to overshadow the excellent attention of every other staff member that we encountered. We had a great stay at the hotel and a great time in the Lake District.

Very nice hotel, lovely grounds and great facilities. Food in the restaurant is a little pricey and be careful that you book breakfast with your stay if you book through booking.com but on the whole lovely place

Cleanliness of the room was excellent and all facilities available. Although the room was a little small, I did stay in a double room but single occupancy, it was perfectly adequate. Stayed on half board basis. The food was exceptionally good having breakfast in the main hotel and evening meals in the adjacent pub. The staff were always very helpful and friendly. Found very easy to get to from M6 motorway junct 37 and the location was very easy to get in and out of the town centre.

All the hotel staff were very friendly and extremely helpful and polite the food in both the restaurant and pub was delicious the leisure facilities were smaller than hoped and there was work to the area, but that can't be helped. The spa staff were helpful when they made a mistake and were nice. only criticism was that we had the furthest room to walk too with no lift in the hotel!

Had a great evening at an event at Castle Green Hotel. In the main function room. The place was set up roomily. ie. We weren't packed in like sardines like we are at the Christmas party nights there. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The production actors for the Titanic based storyline were excellent entertainment. Food good, staff all polite and helpful. Thanks for a good night all. Well recommended.

Me and my partner stayed here as it was beautiful on the website. We chose a garden room as it had a balcony looking over the gardens. The room was beautiful with plenty of space for our belongings. Lovely tea and coffee supplied and a big bathroom with a great sized mirror (perfect for getting ready for our night out). The view from the balcony at night was beautiful. We had a lovely nights sleep as the bed was so comfy. The staff were so nice. Would definitely recommend

We were very disappointed with our recent meal at the castle green. Portion sizes were mean. One small quenelle of Cartmel Valley salmon with several small potatoes which needed a few more minutes to be properly cooked. The meat on my main course was delicious but the portion of potato was small with a smear of pureed veg, two carrot batons and a spoon of red cabbage. To finish i was served a delicious cheesecake which was unfortunately also of a very small size. When we got home that evening we had two slices of toast! I have eaten at other local top end restaurants and have always left feeling satisfied and have usually paid far less for the pleasure. Take care with the cafetieres! They take a huge amount of pressure and myself and another member of the party ended up sprayed with hot coffee.

We had our wedding at Castle green on 22/4/17 and I must say it was absolutely perfect. The staff were so accommodating nothing was too much to ask, the rooms were great, fully equipped to have everything you need. We (13 of us) ate in the greenhouse restaurant the night before the wedding and the food was great, we had a little bit of a wait but as it was not pre booked was to be expected and for the wait they very nicely offered us a round of drinks on the house. All the staff were very polite and attentive, we couldn't have asked for a better day, the day ran so smoothly thanks to Christine our wedding Co-ordinator. We ate breakfast on both mornings and they offer a wide range of breakfast buffet which you can just help yourself to, they bring tea/coffee and toast to the table and you can help yourself to anything else and all food was of high quality. We would love to stay again.

We stayed at the castle green for one night. We could not fault a thing about this hotel. Staff where all helpful. We stayed in Room 113 which was close to reception, bar and restaurant. The room was lovely looked out onto the gardens. We visited the Alexandra restaurant which was another place to eat, food was Amazing, not bad prices either. I would definitely recommend having a spa treatment done 55 minutes of bliss. Looking forward to visiting again.

We wanted to break our journey from Edinburgh to Nottingham so looked for a hotel halfway. My criteria is a good restaurant and it didn't disappoint. Our choice of the tasting menu with matched wines was excellent.

Stopped for one night and I must say one of the better hotels I have stopped in over in Cumbria . Friendly staff , great facilities and good food !! The views from the balcony overlooks the whole of Kendal. Plenty of car parking spaces. A must stay for those who want quality ! Well done Castle green !

The hotel is quite nice but the disappointing things are the food potions - these are very small . The staff in the bar are rude . We were asked to move away from the bar are I would though stay here again for business

Stayed here as a family with a three-year-old. Room was a good size for the price, clean and tidy with a nice TV. Good pull-out bed provided for our daughter. Staff were welcoming and accommodating to us having a young child. Breakfast was nice,with plenty of choice—and great sausages :)—at a reasonable price. The grounds are quite extensive and nicely kept, with good views over Kendal below (the hotel sits somewhat atop a hill) Plenty of parking available, with unloading spaces near the entrance, which is useful because the hotel is on a pretty steep hill! Has a nice wooded hillside area adjacent to it with a "woodland trail" marked out in it. Great to walk around with little ones, although some bits are quite steep. There is also some high & low ropes equipment in the woods too, but that wasn't in use at the time that we were there. It looks like it would be good later in the season though. It's run by a separate company though, not the hotel itself. The are a couple of restaurants and a bar area to eat/drink in. Had a slightly negative experience in "Alexander's" restaurant, but nothing too traumatic. Food was nice and everything, but the service was insanely slow. They didn't seem to be too busy, so maybe the staff that day were not too experienced, or something. There's a well equipped gym and pool in the hotel too. Didn't use the gym, but it looked decent. Used the pool, which is small, but functional. They have two kids sessions per day, which are the only times you can take kids to the pool). The pool/gym is staffed, but there isn't a permanent life guard in the pool. All in all, we'd certainly stay again. Especially if they install some electric car charging points :)

We stayed in room 260, family room,on the 18th April 2017,we returned to Castle Green because we enjoyed are last stay so much,we enjoyed this stay also, & will return again in the future no doubt about that, one small let down was the put up Bed,for my son, no problem with the size of the bed, as it was correctly described when making our reservation, and it served its purpose, however the quality of the mattress was poor,my son like most people now days has a quality mattress on his bed at home, the mattress had springs which could be felt when lying down, which resulted in a poor nights sleep for him, which he was quick to let me know about the following morning.so I would recommend senior management check them out,because a quality hotel like Castle Green should not accept anything apart from quality beds, so a good night sleep is had for all, on a positive note, the hotel is fantastic,it is run to a very high standard,food is delightful,staff go out there way to make you feel welcome, and the setting is beautiful, what more could you ask for

We stayed for 1 night following a wedding at the venue. The whole day went well and staff were all attentive. The food is every bit as great as its reputation and breakfast was a joy! Everything was clean and well thought out.

We stayed for three nights recently and loved every aspect of our stay. We were upgraded to a room with a balcony with a lovely view across Kendal and the hills, enjoyed excellent breakfasts and dinners in the restaurant. All the staff were friendly and attentive, even phoning us the day before our arrival to check we didn't need directions and giving us the opportunity to book in for dinner on the first night. We will certainly stay again and would recommend to anyone who wants something a bit special.

Visited Windermere for the Easter break and all hotels were fully booked so searched Kendal and came across Castle Green which is only 20mins drive away. The staff were immensely friendly, warm, accommodating and hospitable. The rooms / facilities were clean and well kept. The breakfast was of an excellent standard, clearly serving fresh produce (and supporting local trade with the condiments on offer). Dinner at the Alexanders was ok, a little pricey when one could just pop into Kendal if you have a hungry family of 4 to feed. Clean swimming pool for family time and providing floats etc. Plenty of car parking also. The touch with personalised Easter eggs for the kids was a really nice thing to do, thank you. Genuinely impressed as previous experience of BW wasn't great. One staff member in particular that was outstanding was "George" who was the bartender on Saturday evening / waiter Monday morning. Hospitable, going above and beyond to help, and always smiled. Even talked with my wife to consider rebooking again for Easter next year. Thank you.

This is a great hotel just outside Kendal in a lovely location. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was good and the bedrooms were a good size and very comfortable. There is also plenty of parking at the hotel.

This hotel was recently refurbished and the room we stayed in was very nice . It had twin beds and the bathroom had a shower over the bath . The staff were mostly very helpful and pleasant although the young man who checked us in didn't seem to know very much . The most annoying thing was that the room cards frequently didn't work and we had to go back to reception to have them reformatted . The young man on reception seemed adamant that this was due to being next to a mobile phone despite us not having one with us some if the tine . We ate in the on site pub as the menu seemed more to our taste than the restaurant and all our meals were very good . We also visited the function room for a disappointing local beer festival . The grounds are very pretty and there is a nice stroll through the woodland walk . The worst thing was the view from our window onto huge metal pipes do be sure to ask for a room at the front which has gorgeous views .

Went with a group of ladies for a hen party. Had a lovely lunch in the restaurant then we had booked spa treatments, the girls in the spa were lovely. The young lady organising our afternoon was very helpful , nothing was to much trouble for her. It was a sunny afternoon so we were able to sit out side in the beautiful gardens and we had use of the pool . A great time had by all.

Stayed for business in April. Rooms are good, clean and tidy. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Bar serves decent beers, with local brews available. Ideal location for touring in the lakes. Breakfast is of very good standard.

The hotel is very modern and has great surroundings. It is in the middle of nowhere but exactly what you want for a relaxing time. They have a fitness centre which I wasn't able to visit on my stay. The staff were very friendly and the hotel was very well presented along with the room. The room had everything needed and was pretty big too. Breakfast was very good as expected from a best western with freshly cooked full English breakfast buffets with the typical continental breakfasts too.

Just on the way back from a great few days here. Arrived on Friday evening and enjoyed a drink and the sun on the terrace of the main bar then headed off for a lovely evening meal in Alexanders after it. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. Having breakfast whilst overlooking the gardens each morning was a great way to start the day. Particularly impressed that you could pick out made to order items as well as the plentiful buffet breakfast. The gym and pool were well maintained and there were only 2 people in each when I visited them. I had a perfect end to a relaxing trip with a massage and facial off Jess in the green rooms spa. I'm heading home feeling refreshed and will definitely visit the Castle Green Hotel again

we visited staying over for a charity dinner at the Hotel. Room was clean and tidy staff friendly. The dinner was very good it is unusual to have such good quality food at a mass catering event, the food was well cooked and tasty. my only one small thing is there are lots of steps and you have to go outside to get to the function room.

Having just got back from a wonderful weekend at the castle green I would like to thank management and staff for a fantastic 3 night's. We arrived on the Friday night having traveled from Malvern our room was on the top floor looking over the garden it was clean and had everything we needed. We then had a meal in the restaurant we choose the taster menu with the wine joices each coarse was perfectly cooked and pressented except the sweet which we found bland .Saturday was our friend's wedding and everything was perfect. Sunday we took a stroll into Kendal as we used to live ' there not much had changed we had a taxi back then had a meal in the bar I had the sausage and mash Sheila had fish and chips after a hetic wkend we had an early night in our large comfortable bed all in all a fantastic weekend and would certainly recommend the castle green to our friend's.

We stayed here for one night recently en route to Aberdeen. After a good experience with the Best Western Premier brand recently, I was happy to book a stay here. On the whole not disappointed. Breakfast was included in our rate and it is definitely worth it. Shop around the comparison sites and one can get a good deal. All the usual suspects are served on the buffet but the extra touches were good. Bread from a local bakery instead of the usual cut loaves etc. The cumberland sausages appear to be the genuine thing, I would assume from a local butcher. Well for the rest. Friendly staff. Nice bathrooms. Ample parking -if you have a heavy bag it is probably worth driving to the top to check in as the main car park involves slopes and steps, Bed and pillows could be more comfortable. We had dinner in the pub on the premises but the food appear of the microwave variety. If I go again I would try the main dining room.

This family owned hotel is well run, has a good range of facilities and mixes tourists and business visitors well. Good choice of formal dining or more relaxed 'pub atmosphere' dining. Standard rooms are well fitted but on the slightly small side. Good pool and spa. Also have large well maintained gardens and a woodland to walk through.

Stayed here for a wedding reception. The room was clean and dare I say quite basic. The rooms did have toiletries and lovely large fluffy towels, only enough milk for a coffee each in the morning. The rooms are pleasantly decorated, but it was quite chilly until the heating kicked in. The corridors leading to the rooms were also chilly. The bar was pretty expensive £25 for a bottle of prosecco, £5.10 for a double rum and coke. The breakfast was ok, self service very hot, all the normal items available bacon, sausage fried and scrambled eggs, beans, grilled tomatoes, hash browns and black pudding. There was also a selection of pastries available. We paid £153 for b & b, which was supposed to be discounted due to being guests at the wedding. I have to say for the price I have stayed in better places.

Just had a lovely stay at Castle Green Hotel, and would defiantly recommend and return. All the staff are professional, polite, and well organised, Our room was a Standard room facing part of the car park and the Garden. It was a little way from the reception but no problem for us. We enjoyed watching the squirrels in the Garden from our window. The Room was lovely and quiet, with Good Black out Curtains, Lovely Comfortable Bed, Modern Furnishing and immaculately clean. Also Good toiletry, plus a Safe, Iron, and Iron Board, Hairdryer, and a Clock that you can actually see from the bed. A small walk in Wardrobe, lots of hanging space and Draw Space, A Table and Chairs. The radiators are Electric so no clicking pipes waking you up when the heating comes on, (which you will always get in old building and we have always encountered in most hotel we have stayed in) we had no problem adjusting the settings. Breakfast we could not fault. We have stayed in other hotels in the Lake District and this was one of the most enjoyable breakfast we have had. It is a buffet, you can just help yourself to as much as you want from the buffet and all was hot. Bacon, Sausages, Hash browns, Beans, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Scrambled eggs, Fried eggs, plus Cereal, Fruit, Yoghurt, Smoothies, and a lot more. If you prefer poached egg, just ask the waiters, and the chef will cook it for you fresh, and then you can just help yourself to anything else from the buffet. Coffee, Tea and Toast will be brought to your table. Lovely view from the window while having Breakfast. You can get room service for breakfast for a £5 service charge. There is also room service for evening meal for the same service Charge. We did have an enjoyable meal in the Alexander. Recommend that you book a Table it can get busy especially at weekends. I do have a Small comment we found it uncomfortably hot, especially if you sit on the tables beside the radiator. (Management maybe turn down your heating a little) When you turn into the drive way, the hotel looks impressive with lovely well kept Gardens. When we arrived the bottom carparks where full, what we didn't realise is it is a conference hotel, and that was why the car parks where full. If you drive up the hill to the receptionist there is a car park right beside the reception, so you don't need to park in the bottom car parks. When you turn in the hotel gates just carry on up the hill to reception. Have to say that the conferences and functions do not Impact on the Hotel in any way. Free wifi a little slow at times especially when there is a lot of people using it, but not a problem, There is no lift, so recommend that you book a room on ground floor If you find it difficult climbing stairs. The staff will happily help you with your cases on arrival. We did walked into the town Centre it will take you about 30 minutes and is a pleasant Walk, To sum up, Would we return Definitely. Would we recommend Definitely. Did we have a good time, Definitely. Need I say more. Thank you Castle Green for a lovely stay, we will return hopefully soon.

Nice looking hotel. Under some renovation whilst we stayed with workmen and paint pots here and there. Check in / out was quick. Great breakfast choice and good quality. Rooms not very big, very clean and tidy, but expected more luxury/size for £130 a night if I'm honest. Staff friendly enough, but some seemed inexperienced eg slow service at bar with 2 of them looking at each other 'you serve not me'...Booked taxi, hadn't arrived, then chased but receptionist couldn't remember which taxi firm she'd ordered with...no tea/coffee arrived until we'd practically finished breakfast and had to chase 3 times! Bit disappointed....

Very nice hotel, 10 minute stroll from the town. Large carpark which is hidden from view when in the hotel. Good decor in room with excellent view across to wooded hills and sunset. Very quiet. Tasty breakfast but too expensive for me what it is. Nice staff.

We only stayed overnight but after a long drive the welcome of the reception team and the comfort of this hotel, was very much appreciated. We had dinner with friends in the restaurant and the service was very good. The food was most enjoyable and a good evening was had by all. Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the spa facilities but we will be back and will make sure it is for a longer break. The hotel is very well positioned on the outskirts of Kendal and the views are stunning.

Can't fault this hotel. From the moment we arrived we were met by a very pleasant receptionist. All the staff we encountered during our stay were friendly, professional and polite. We stayed on a B&B basis for 2 nights in a Garden View / Shower room. The room itself did have an excellent view and did have a balcony with seating complete with cushions and blankets. Although not the biggest room we have stayed in it had everything we needed including two chairs to use. The breakfasts served in the Green Room restaurant were excellent and had a selection of cold and hot buffet options. We ate our evening meals in Alexanders pub next door (part of the hotel) and they were very good although not the biggest menu. In the evening there is a very nice lounge bar in the hotel for a drink and has a glass fronted log fire. You can either pay cash or charge it to your room. A pint of real ale was £3.60 which I thought was reasonable for this type of hotel. Lots of available parking in the hotel grounds. Kendal itself is about 1 mile away (downhill). We walked in one day and it took us about half an hour as I was pushing a wheelchair otherwise it's about a 20 min walk if you are fully mobile. We got a taxi when returning to the hotel as it would have been impossible to push a chair uphill all the way back. Taxi cost was £6/£7 pound. There is a bus stop 100 yards from the hotel (42A) which reception can show you a timetable for. Overall we really enjoyed this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

Just home from a two night break, we had dinner both evenings in the greenhouse resturant. The quality and care taken over the food is exceptional. The bedrooms are spotless ,beds are very comfortable. All staff are very nice. Looking forward to our next break at the Castle Green.

A lovely clean modern hotel. All staff were so nice. Would like to give a special thanks to Lydia at reception. Nothing was too much bother and she took time out to answer all our questions on booking a return visit. Hang on to her a valuable member of staff.. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Just one little complaint the quilt on the double bed was actually two single quilts taped up the middle and was quite annoying at times as the tape was quite irritating. Forgot to mention this to Lydia. Overall had a wonderful time. Mr and Mrs Dheer

This was our second time staying at this hotel. We stayed here a year ago and loved it and the surrounding area so much we decided to go back this year, and enjoyed it just as much as the first time. The room (and actually hotel in general) was very nice, really cosy and incredibly clean. The bed is hands down the most comfortable I've ever stayed in. Such a great night sleep! The curtains are very heavy so block out any light which is great for a lie in. The pool was nice and warm but a little busy when we were there early in the morning. Steam room was great too. Lovely gardens and a lovely quick wee walk up at the back of the hotel. The staff were excellent, super friendly especially Jill who was very helpful. Best points for last - the views/gardens and the breakfast. Breakfast is SO GOOD!! Hot cooked breakfast (with additional items to order if you want, e.g. we got additional veggie sausages), fruits, muesli, cereal and yogurts and pastries. It was amazing! The grounds are beautiful and very colourful this time of year. Really recommend this hotel. Can't wait to go back!

We stayed in the hotel with our two year old daughter. Enjoyed our stay there, nice staff. Good breakfast, had a nice meal in Alexander's. There is a wonderful garden, must be a brilliant spot during summer. The walk to the city was perhaps 20 minutes.

We booked a late weekend break through the hotel website as found this cheaper than other booking comparison sites. Great location for visiting Windermere and Ambleside. The hotel itself couldn't be faulted in any way, clean and modern set in a peaceful location. We ate in the Alexander bar and was very impressed, beautiful meal and great service. The rooms have a lovely relaxed feel to them. We used the pool and steam room which I would recommend. A great choice for breakfast, you could taste the quality and freshness. Overall a lovely weekend break would recommend this hotel

The hotel is set about 20 minutes' walk from the town centre. The most pleasant way into town is to leave the hotel, turn left, and then right – and then head downhill until you hit (the obvious) road into town. You could then meander about in town, and catch a bus back from the bus station, or complete a circular walk – leave town on the A684 along Sedbergh Road to Castle Green Road (the map given by the hotel wasn't quite right on that last bit, so use your instinct and common sense!). We stayed at the hotel mid-week in October, just before half-term, and it wasn't too busy. Breakfast was excellent – the range of choice was about the best we've experienced in the UK, and can be highly recommended. We didn't use the restaurant in the evening – it seemed very expensive, and the bar menu served our needs just fine. Strangely, the menu in our room listed cold and hot sandwiches as being available in the bar, but the near-identical menu in the bar itself only listed hot ones. The bar staff couldn't explain why, but happily gave us the cold ones we wanted anyway. We choose a premium room with a shower and balcony. The room and bathroom were slightly on the small side, given the furniture in the room. It might have felt a bit cramped and claustrophobic but for the windows and pleasant balcony, which overlooked the fields towards town. But, on the whole, it was fine for our 3-night stay. The pool in the hotel is very good – but beware the strictly observed times when children are allowed in. The steam room is good too – I liked the soothing music and ever-changing ceiling lights. I didn't use the gym, but it seemed pretty busy each night while we were there. We would be happy to stay in the hotel again.

Our reception was friendly and helpful (very welcome after a 7 hour drive), and our accommodation was roomy and clean with an excellent view out over the gardens. The bathroom was clean and plenty of hot water and all the toiletries you would need. In the bedroom there was a plentiful supply of tea and coffee making ingredients. We would stay here again and thoroughly recommend the restaurant for both choice, quality and service.

Visited Castle Green en route to a family wedding. I read some info which said that the hotel was voted Best Best Western hotel in the uk and had recently had a refit. The check in was smooth and welcoming and our room was just off the Reception area but wasn't noisy. Rooms comfortable with garden views and lovely bed added to a relaxing overnight. The gym is crowded but adequate and the pool a nice addition to have a dip in after a workout. The food choice in the restaurants were either v fancy or basic fare and I struggled to find something tempting. I had the prawn and salmon salad which was average lots of lettuce pre dressed and masses of red onion. My husband had a salt beef sandwich in the bar. Again passable but not amazing. The hotel is out of town in pretty surroundings although the Reception area by the door could be tidier, there is a smoking area there and some sad looking topiary which doesn't greet your eyes terribly well. You may need to think about dinner reservations if you aren't venturing out. Alexanders was full at 7.30 pm with a 45 min wait on a Thursday night. Breakfast is a buffet affair you can order eggs, kippers etc so i found out afterwards. Breakfast staff didn't tell is about what was being offered aside from the buffet which was a shame as i love poachers! In summary, comfortable and cosy bedrooms with pleasant staff on hand, but do your home work on dining options at night.

Stopped over in the hotel on the way to Scotland and had a fabulous time. Excellent rooms, comfortable lounge, roaring Fire, David on reception was fab and what can we say about Brandon Finch- he was amazing making us feel so special and went over and above to make our stay memorable. A very nice place, the room was small but nice, clean, and had everything you could want, including a safe, the swimming pool was great we used it every day, the staff were all friendly and willing to help with anything. We ate in the bar and the restaurant and all the food was amazing, the breakfast had a huge choice and was all very nice, not cheap but worth every penny, the surrounding area is very nice with plenty to do. We are looking forward to going back.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights. Reception we're welcoming when we arrived, and the food was lovely in the pub restaurant. We had room service which again, was excellent. The only small complaint would be that the maids were very noisy early in the morning, there seemed to be a lot of crashing around which woke us up both mornings. Apart from that we would stay here again!

We have stayed at this hotel in the past and found it satisfactory, but just stopping by for dinner was very disappointing. For a four star hotel, it would have been better if the dining room had been a bit warmer, the food a bit more interesting [I never like small portions on huge plates], and the delays shorter. We waited for 45 minutes after our starters before the main course arrived, and none of the staff seemed to notice or apologise

Stayed for 2 night break and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The whole place was spotless, food was great and the staff couldn't have been anymore helful. Liesure Pool area needs a little bit more lightening up as it looks a wee bit dull, but thats just my own observance. Stayed at this hotel a few years back but since then its had a real good facelift. No complaints and as Arnie says..Ahll be Back !

We stayed overnight on our way to Scotland. We booked a garden view room which was lovely though small. It was also quite hot in the room. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. Breakfast was buffet and very nice, lots of choice of local produce and was well cooked. The grounds and location are lovely and we would stay again.

Very nice room 169 but quite a walk from reception. Plenty of choice though. Lovely situation in parkland.Plenty of parking. Good breakfasts and very pleasant staff.Pool and gymnasium looked immaculate.

We have stayed at Castle Green many times and it never fails to amaze me,there is nothing I can fault with this hotel,the food is excellent,the staff are wonderful,all bedrooms are furnished to a high degree and the views from the hotel are superb,and to top all that there is a pub in the grounds (Alexander's) where you can purchase bar snacks or an evening meal.

I was going to take off a point because the family room situation is not ideal and is much better at other hotels. However, I have always had such good experiences at the Castle Green, it makes up for the slightly annoying family room situation. I highly recommend this place, but if you are travelling with more than one child, there aren't any connecting rooms, and although big, the family room doesn't really have a good separate area for kids.

After a long journey we were greeted and made to feel welcome at reception. The rooms were warm and clean. We had a fabulous view across the valley and the sunset that evening We dined in Alexanders, I would recommend the lamb shoulder it was beautiful, my wife enjoyed the fish pie and I would try that next time up there if it is still available Breakfast was excellent, service friendly even if the chef was a bit grumpy as he had to make scrambled egg for two of us. We ate in the main restaurant that night and it was good again, chateabriand was great but the sirloin not the best I have eaten but certainly not the worst. On the last evening we opted for the restaurant again and we had four empty plates again at the end, pork chop being ??. Will be back?? Only downside was that the leisure facilities were closed for two days of our stay.

Before booking our trip to the Lake District, we considered staying in a cheaper hotel much nearer the town, but are so glad we didn't. This hotel is a mile or more from Kendal, so not a short stroll to the shops, but it is great if you want to be at peace and surrounded by lovely countryside. The hotel itself is an attractive building in beautiful grounds with lots of car parking below. We parked at reception to unload and then parked in the bottom car park - no problem at all. The reception staff were welcoming and friendly. Our room was at the back of the hotel, which meant it was quiet and peaceful. It wasn't a big room, but had a good sized bed with table and chairs, a desk, TV and plenty of hanging and drawer space. The only let down was the bathroom. It was immaculately clean and the toiletries were nice, but the shower was one of the smallest I have seen. This is not a problem in the sense that we are not big people, but I am short and the shower head was up so high and could not be adjusted! There was no bath. We ate in the adjacent Alexander's bar on two nights and in the hotel on the other, and the food was excellent and good value. The staff were polite, friendly and knowledgeable about what was on the menu. Breakfast was an excellent experience: nice tables and chairs with tea and toast brought to the table and a wide variety of fruit, yogurt, cereals, breads, croissants and pastries. I noticed that the yogurts were from Little Town Dairy (very Beatrix Potter!) so it is good to see that the hotel is using local produce. Butter was on little dishes, not wrapped in foil and we had individual jam, marmalade and honey pots. My husband had the cooked fare and said this was good. The breakfast staff were again polite, well organised and efficient. On one morning we had a table by the window and could look out at the grounds, which are well kept, with mature trees and shrubs. This is a lovely hotel and I wished we could have stayed longer. I would certainly stay here again, but would investigate booking a room with a bath or at least a larger shower cubicle with an adjustable shower head!

Stayed here recently on a business trip. Rooms were nicely update and clean, although a bit on the small side. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable. Bathroom was small too but nicely appointed. Staff was excellent and enjoyed a nice dinner at the adjoining pub. They also offered a very nice breakfast in the morning. Highly recommend.

Stayed here for 3 nights on business. Check in relatively quick. Bit of a trek to bedroom...not served by lift in this part of the hotel. Ok for me with a fairly light case but difficult to negotiate heavy fire doors at the same time. Might cause a problem for less agile guests. Room clean and comfortable. Good quality bedding. Surprised to find that window wasn't double glazed. Quite old frames and not fitting very well which caused draughts and could hear the rooks cawing at night which did nothing to enhance sleep quality. Room was cold even with heater which was not that effective. Good quality toiletries in bathroom. Powerful overhead shower. Only had a bath towel in room so had to ring reception for a hand towel but this was quickly delivered to room. Hairdryer needs replacing...only one heat and far too hot. Free wifi, but a bit slow in bedroom. Excellent food in dining room at both breakfast and dinner. Good choice from menu and food quickly served and was of high quality. All in all a comfortable stay and would visit again if in the area.

This hotel has a large car park on 3 levels and I recommend that you unload at the reception before parking. If you require a disabled space then talk to the hotel when booking. Not many disabled spaces for a hotel of this size.If you have to park on the lower level then just hope its not raining. The hotel is good, restaurant excellent, dinner good and breakfast very good.Staff are lovely and well trained. My only reason fro 4 stars is the parking issue and I believe the hotel can provide more disabled parking spaces.

Stayed for a long weekend at the end of September and the hotel fitted the bill for us perfectly. The reception bar and restaurant area were spacious and friendly. All of the staff are incredibly friendly and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. Breakfast was amazing with all you could ask for and always served with a smile. Our room was small but perfectly adequate, the bathroom was great with an amazing shower, however the toilet was a bit close to the opposite wall. Overall this hotel is lovely and an ideal few days away in the Lake District.

We have stayed here many times over the last 14 years and never yet been disappointed. The food is to die for and the staff cannot do enough to make the stay memorable. I have always said that we would never stay anywhere else in the area.

Top quality hotel, staff hard working, nothing too much trouble for my daughters wedding, great venue, brilliant gardens for wedding photos, superb food. Rooms were clean, tidy and well kept. Great views of Kendal. Well worth a visit.

The staff and the hotel accommodation was very good, the food was also excellent. The leisure facility & pool area were also very good. Overall a fantastic experience, and enjoyable stay in lovely surroundings....and the sun was shining!!!!

We got married here in July, from start to finish through the booking process to checking out the day after our wedding every single member of staff was amazing. The breakfast was beautiful both mornings and the day after our wedding we went for breakfast and a just married balloon was brought to our table which made it extra special! The food for our wedding breakfast was beautiful and everyone commented on how perfect everything was!

Our daughters had bought us this weekend away at Castle Green for our 40th wedding anniversary. we had a very enjoyable time here, staff where friendly and helpful. The food was excellent, and drinks reasonable priced. A very clean well kept hotel with excellent gardens. Within a 25 minutes walk to Kendal with nice views.Steep in places if you have difficulty walking but not a bad walk at all. This is a busy venue for meals so would always book in advance. We had bed breakfast and evening meals, never disappointed, always well prepared dishes. With good service, well attended to with nice staff always on hand to help if required. We would definitely go back.

Very beautiful settings and spacious bedroom good food good entertainment and very professional staff..would recommend this hotel. As w arrived it was flawless check in and our room was on the ground floor as we had chosen. Reception staff was pleasant too. We felt as if we were at home away from home.

What gives this place the edge is the lovely views you get on the balcony leading from the venues function room. The surrounding area is very beautiful a lovely place to take a few wedding photos for sure. The food we received on the wedding day was really nice. My main, Beef with seasonal veg and a mushroom sauce was cooked to perfection. The sticky toffee pudding that followed was also very moreish. The staff were attentive and helpful, very organised service throughout the day! A very nice venue for the wedding service and also the night do afterwards. If go back to one of their events or even just for a meal in the restaurant. 5/5!

We got married at the castle green hotel in September...from beginning to end the staff were superb. So helpful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They made all our guests feel welcome. All the little extra touches were lovely especially the toast! Lol. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a lovely break or a venue for a special occasion.....

From making the telephone booking, through to arrival, dining and check-out the staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The food in the restaurant was well prepared and very nicely presented, there was a good wine list at sensible prices. There were facilities at the hotel which we did not have time to use, but would have been great for a longer stay. For me there is no such thing as a bad location in the Lake District but this hotel is particularly week placed with easy access from the motorway and subsequently into Kendal itself. Will definitely return.

We have made this our regular stop-over when we make a trip down south. It is a wonderful hotel with excellent service and accommodation. We are so glad we found this gem. The staff have the knack of making ordinary people feel special in the thoughtful ways they offer help and service. It is evident that the staff training is of a very high standard and staff all seem really happy and proud of their hotel. Rightly so. The rooms are comfortable. We have been in several different rooms and all have been very satisfactory regarding space and bed comfort. The Greenhouse restaurant offers a wide selection and the meals are above usual hotel standard. Breakfasts are plentiful and tasty with locally sourced produce.

i attended a weekend bridge congress having very recently started a FODMAP exclusion diet. at short notice, i requested a lunch on both days that catered for my special requirements. the catering staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. sandwiches were delicious but the cakes were beyond scrumptious. well done everone

Our stay at the Castle Green hotel was outstanding. We was staying at the Castle Green Hotel for a wedding which happened in the hotel. The staff who was with us all night were amazing. Staff were very polite and helpful all through out visit. Rooms were spotless (Credit to the cleaners) Comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious (lots of choice.) Overall a pleasant stay, we will be returning.

Common areas such as restaurant and bar nice but the room itself was very dated (but clean). On arrival I was told it was only booked as a single occupancy so it would be more than I expected, plus I needed to add another breakfast. Not the hotels fault apparently, but a common problem using well known booking site. No apologies just that's how it is! The next morning we didn't receive the paper requested and only one of us had breakfast. Not possible to refund breakfast which is probably fair but no apology for not getting the paper, just stated it hadn't been charged. Final straw the taxi we ordered via reception didn't arrive! Wouldn't recommend..

Stayed at this hotel to visit the lake district and didn't want to stay in the touristy areas. Very nice clean comfortable hotel on the outskirts of kendal but in easy reach of the lakes. Fantastic breakfast but the real suprise was the pub in the grounds serving local ales and good food. Recommend this hotel.

Stayed here for an overnight. Room had been recently modified and though a little on the small side was very beautiful. Excellent shower in the bathroom. Breakfast was very very good indeed and the hotel was quiet during the night. Slept very well on comfortable bed. Would definitely return.

They made my weekend for me and my family so very special. Food in the Alexander pub was excellent even for the fussy eaters. Rooms were ready early and check out 11-12 which is ample to have breakfast and pack.

We chose this hotel as it was walking distance to Kendal (a good 25 minute walk but perfectly doable). That is the only real positive I can think of to say about the hotel. If the hotel was budget price then I may have been more forgiving but unfortunately the £130 a night we paid was too high for what you actually get (no breakfast included either). We were given a very tiny room that was situated 2 rooms away from reception. I knew I should have asked to be moved but I thought that I would buy earplugs just in case and give it a chance. Let's just say that the earplugs only managed to drown out a small amount of the noise from the corridor and reception area. The doors have nothing sound proof about them. I had asked for an upper story room in my booking.com booking but this was clearly ignored. When we arrived in the room I found dirty cups on our tea/coffee tray. We just washed them ourselves as the housekeeping had restocked the tea and coffee but I wasn't very pleased. I wanted to mention it to reception but me and my husband agreed that it wasn't really worth the hassle. I wanted to use the spa but unfortunately it had been fully booked 48 hours in advance which was disappointing. Not the hotel's fault but guests should keep this in mind. Maybe I had too high hopes for this hotel. It would be fine for one night (away from the main reception!) but as a nice lakes getaway it doesn't cut the mustard.

Second stay here this year and not dissapointed. My favourite thing is Alexanders restaurant on site. The food and service are second to none. The rooms are nice and bed comfortable. The breakfast lovely in the restaurant with great views across the green at the front of the hotel

Stayed here for one night after we attended a wedding reception at the hotel. Everything was very good, the wedding do was excellent, the staff attentive and the package that the couple chose for their guests was one of the best we have seen at a wedding. Canapes and drinks were flowing, the wedding breakfast plentiful. The room we had was small but very clean, modern and with everything you could want. Free water in the room plus tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast was very nice, full english buffet that was cooked fresh in front of you. Check in and check out was pleasant, would recommend.

We stayed at the castle green hotel for two nights , on araival we were dealt with speedily and efficiently . Our room was clean and supplied with tea and coffee for us to use . TV , hair dryer were there my wife asked if she could have a fan to use it was brought to the room in no time at all. I would recommend the breakfast to anyone , full English or cereal's were all there .

Lovely hotel, we stayed 5 days, but could only manage a meal in the restaurant once. The hotel is geared up for functions of which there were two whilst we stayed. We tried to book the restaurant 24 hours ahead but it was fully booked.

We had previously stayed at this hotel some years ago for a family wedding, it was good then and is now even better. The rooms are tastefully furnished, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, always smiling and always greeting guests with a friendly word and smile. The location is beautiful, our room overlooked the gorgeous gardens and we even had a small furnished balcony. The restaurant was also lovely and the food was excellent. This also overlooks the gardens if you're lucky enough to get a window table. (We were).

Stayed over whilst taking a course in town, the location is great on the outskirts. The hotel is spotless and the rooms very well equipped and a comfy bed. Food int he bar was great and a good selection of ales. Overall a very nice stay in a nice hotel, staff service was great, thanks.

We stayed here as part of a stopover during a week of touring. We selected the location as it was walking distance into Kendal. Part of the Best Western group we were looking for hotel of a decent standard and reasonably priced. We achieved this and more with this hotel. The rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable, with coffee making facilities etc, and we had the added benefit of access to a leisure club with a very pleasant swimming pool and steam room to enjoy. Such amenities are rare within this price range. We did not eat here but chose to walk into Kendal and find a restaurant there but the hotel restaurant looked inviting and there is a separate eaterie and bar adjoining but still part of the hotel. This looked as though it was well attended by locals ( always a good sign I think!) For a mid price ranged hotel this is a bargain with the added benefit of a leisure club and friendly helpful staff.

We have not stayed here for some years but what a pleasant surprise from the welcome, the room, the gym, swimming pool and finally the most excellent Alexander's restaurant where we initially were served local 'Swan Blonde' beer by the most knowledgeable barman Chris Winfield ( encyclopaedic re local Cumbrian ales) and then had an excellent meal overseen by the assistant manager Chris Mealor...when a bit unsure re what to eat Mr Mealor even brought us a tiny sample of a course on the menu to aid mind making-up...these are staff to be proud of...well done the Castle Green Hotel!

the green house restaurant is well worth a visit. we had afternoon tea on one day and and evening meal on the next. the service was attentive and friendly. The food wonderful. As wheelchair user i could not stay at the hotel because their disabled rooms do not have a wet room shower. Access to the whole site is difficult because it is set on a hill. However every effort has been made to accommodate disabled visitors. Disabled parking is strictly monitored so be sure to display your badge

Tasty sandwiches, mini wrap, warm savoury muffin, hot scone and interesting selection of delicious cakes. Good list of teas to choose from. Great views from the restaurant. Nothing was too much trouble for the waiter, who was very attentive without being intrusive. I defy anyone to eat it all!

Stayed for 2 nights to celebrate 31st wedding anniversary and a wedding. Pleasant hotel, great staff, good food. Marred by a small swimming pool and lack of a sauna. WRT VFM maybe a little pricey based on the facilities, but the surroundings and locality of Kendal town made it worth it.

Stayed with work overnight. Car park a little confusing as there are 3, ended up in the middle one which was a slight pain as had to carry case up a few steps. Welcome was friendly and staff were helpful. First impressions were good, large room, neutral colours, large bed. Swimming pool nice (slightly marred by the ladies who used it to sit at the end nattering for over an hour whilst the rest of us did lengths - it wasn't big enough for both) and the steam room very comfortable. Reason for 3 stars - very creaky could hear everyone walking around and had a rubbish nights sleep. The breakfast toast was burnt and the shower wasn't great and the water was only just hot. Need to watch the windows as not sure how much privacy there is.

We had a really relaxing stay at this hotel: the grounds were fabulous and the staff were all very welcoming, from the reception to the dining staff. Nothing was too much trouble. My partner was more than happy with the delicacies on the taster menu. The food was lovely. I would've preferred a room with a view because the gardens were beautifully maintained, however; seeing as though we booked this at the last minute, it was understandable that this would be a big 'ask'. On the basis of our experience, we have booked to stay here for New Year. Looking forward to another relaxing stay. Would be great if we had a room with a view!

The Castle Green is set in lovely grounds, and although a large hotel the public rooms are comfortable and are not 'institutional'. The bedrooms are good-sized with with a firm mattress on the bed (a real plus for me) and the bathrooms are modern with excellent bath/showers. There are options for eating in either the restaurant or in Alexanders pub in the grounds. We choose the pub which has a good range of draft beers and generous sized main courses. Breakfast choices in the main restaurant are excellent. Finally we were really well looked after by the very friendly and helpful staff. One of the pluses for booking the Castle Green is that because it's not in the National Park you do not have to book two nights which is often the case in the Lakes. Would definitely stay again!

We booked for a relaxing country break, and we're looking for a country hotel with leisure facilities, akin to Slaley Hall. This isn't that. The setting is impressive, overlooking Kendal, and is well signposted. Just as well, as the website hides the postcode so well I needed to retrieve my booking confirmation email to find it. We were in room 123, over looking the gardens. Also on the noisiest corridor in Christendom. The room is tiny and so poorly soundproofed that every conversation passing by can be heard, not to mention the hairdryer running in the next door room. We booked directly, and there were mentions of perks of doing this on the email and door key, but I'm yet to be advised of these on check-in. Breakfast was included in our rate, service was excellent and quality was good. We paid £168 for one night's bed and breakfast and I feel this was too high for the quality and size of the room and the service we received. We are yet to use the leisure facilities, as there were no robes in the room and (just like the 'direct booking perks') the receptionist staff made no mention of how we could access these facilities on check-in. Disappointingly expensive stay.

Castle green is a top notch hotel . Clean ,friendly good food great staff and fantastic facilities . The rooms were well appointed with a safe , hairdryer ,tea and coffee ,bottled water ,and complimentary biscuits . Food was superb . Breakfast buffet had a great choice and the food in the pub was top notch .

I knew from the moment I walked into the Castle Green over a year ago without an appointment and just hoping for a quick show around the hotel that this was the place I had to get married. Nicola was amazing, considering I had no appointment she spent over an hour going through all the wedding packages and showing me round the hotel - the kind of customer service you want on your special day. Over the next year the wedding team were amazing, answering my constant emails, queries and changes I wanted to make with no hassle. The day itself (2nd September) ran perfectly with Christine hosting. The weather stayed lovely for us and we managed to get married outside in the gazebo which was just perfect. We made full use of the beautiful gardens for our wedding photos. The food was amazing, everyone commented on how beautiful it was and how full they were! Bar staff were wonderful, everyone rallied round to make sure I could just relax and enjoy my day and the guests had a wonderful time. Lovely surprise of an upgrade to the executive suite and a bottle of Prosecco on ice and a box of chocolates on our return to the room - little touches that make such a huge difference. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel for a wedding or just a night's stay, you cannot fault any of the staff here, everyone always has a smile on their face and are genuinely happy to help. Overall the service was excellent! The waiters made sure our food was ordered quickly and efficiently. The food came relatively quick the only issue I would say is the portions of the food were relatively low to the amount paid but overall great job !

This place is excellent. We have been countless times and always enjoy our stay. We take advantage of a fabulous offer of dinner, bed and breakfast for £110 per couple. I hesitate to say that as I do not want it to become so popular that we can't make a reservation!! We enjoyed fabulous weather sitting in the garden and a lovely meal in the evening. Service was a little slower than usual on this occasion. There seemed to be new staff working amongst the "regulars." A little more experience and training and I'm sure they will become as adept as their mentors. (Brushing crumbs off the breakfast table with his hands is an example of the tweaks the young waiter needs to improve his service.) However, the friendliness of everyone, the good value for money, beautiful surroundings and ease of access for us means that this remains one of our favourite hotels. Thank you Castle Green. We married here on August 16th 2016. I stayed in 139, prior to our wedding. The ceremony was conducted in the Gazebo. We had an outstanding day. The sun shone down on us as we said our vows. Then we had bucks fizz. The wedding breakfast was delicious. We opted for hand-tossed prawn salad, main of chicken, mash and roast potatoes, parsnips and buttered veg. Dessert was sticky toffee and ice cream. We had coffee/ tea and chocolates. Then the wedding cake. We regularly visit Castle Green and the food was brilliant as always. The new patio furniture was fun to sit on and soak up the rays. We held the wedding breakfast in the Kendal suite that allows a more private wedding area outdoors. The flowers were beautiful and were included in the package. Also included was: - Music Seat covers and sashes Food Reception drinks Room and gazebo hire Executive suite room. Chair covers in gazebo Christine hosted our wedding. Our guests had a lovely day. Thank you, Mr and Mrs R Dean

A lovely hotel set above Kendal in beautiful grounds...Staff were friendly, helpful and quick to respond to requests. Breakfast choice was great and whilst I didn't have the opportunity to use the Pool or Gym facilities this time around, they were excellent according to other guests. I would certainly return for a family weekend.

Everthing about the hotel was great. The staff were excellent and could not do enough for you. We ate in the greenhouse Restaurant and Alexander's and the food was excellent. Joanne in Alexander's was extra nice. The cleanliness and facilities were top notch

Stayed for 2 nights for a family wedding. Very friendly and efficient staff, clean rooms, perhaps a little small but OK. Pleasant grounds and very well situated for Kendal and the Lakes. Breakfast good but only had one bar meal and this was reasonably priced. Didn't use the leisure facilities. Overall impression is that this hotel is welcoming and deserves its 4 stars.

We organised my 70th Birthday party at the hotel. My family of 13 ranged from myself 70 to our granddaughter 9 months. The staff organised our dinner party in full view of the kitchen in the main restaurant which was excellent this enabled the children to have an interest whilst the dinner were served. The staff were excellent from the manager to the ladies doing the cleaning of the rooms leaving me a little gift for my birthday. Wonderful food wonderful service and very good amenities.Thank you all.

We arrived by car and the hotel was easy to spot. There was plenty of parking, though there are are steps to get to the reception from the main parking area(for disabled/senior access, drive them all the way up to main entrance). The view from the bar is outstanding, over looking a lovely green meadow. The rooms were quite comfortable. It was very hot when we arrived but had table fans provided in our rooms. The best part was breakfast, which I would rate as outstanding! We did have some issues with the service as my custom order took 45 mins to arrive and they were very busy. But the staff was helpful and apologetic. It is accessible to all the touristy areas around. there is a small walk uphill from the hotel which we enjoyed doing after our breakfast. Overall a very nice experience and worth the money spent.

We had a 2 night stay here mid Aug. Room was spotless, lovely view, staff so friendly. Breakfast good selection, we also had an evening meal in the green room which was lovely. Nice 2nd meal in the hotels pub, Alexanders. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Just back from an overnight stop to attend a wedding reception. Complicated arrival as with we had a little family emergency so we had to at first cancel, then a day later realised we could attend so contacted the hotel to rebook. Very helpful and sorted us out and kept the same rate, much appreciated. A good night was had by all, bar staff excellent and a good hearty breakfast to set us on our way today. Well done to all staff, would recommend the place and I know our friends who were married there had a great day too

Set in a beautiful location with well tended grounds. The staff are happy, friendly and willing to assist. The rooms are very clean and with good views. Great selection of breakfast food. recommend this hotel.

We stayed for one night only(wish it could've been more). Very impressed with the standard of the room. Called Reception for an ironing board and this was brought in less than 5 minutes.Went and had a drink at Alexander's next door on a beautiful sunny day with amazing views. The breakfast next day was exceptional. Very kind waiter insisted we wait 2 minutes so he could prepare a table with a view of the beautiful gardens. Good quality breakfast with a good variety of choice. Would certainly recommend this hotel to family & friends.

Another family gathering,20 in all, for a 50th. First night Alexander's for dinner,second night The Greenhouse.Having stayed in many hotels this hotel is up there with the very best in terms of service,comfort,food and sheer friendliness. The standard of food in both restaurants was first class.Perhaps a special mention for the breakfast chef and staff making sure everything worked well at a very busy time with food of a high quality ( no skimping). We were looked after by the same head- waiter/manager at both dinners whose attention to detail could not be faulted.Wine list spot on and not over the top (they even had Guinness on tap at the pub ( see previous review). The absolute gem however was Ben our overall manager. Nothing was too much trouble with a lovely sense of humour ( which he needed with us). All 20 aged from 2 to 70 something were effusive in their praise of the reception staff and their warm efficiency right through to the Spa team

attended function on Saturday night room rather dark and a little old fashioned and up steps which didn't suit the older folk. food quality good and service excellent. hotel rooms rather smaller then expected for the price paid. nice to have children seated separately with their own menu.

Excellent hotel. Exceptional friendly staff. Superb food in Alexander's and Cumbrian breakfast to die for with all locally sourced ingredients. We will definitely be back. Hotel is in beautiful setting with walks direct from door but close enough to Kendal if you feel like eating elsewhere

I recently stayed at the Castle Green Hotel while attending a wedding and it proved to be a perfect venue for such an event - even the sun came out as photos were being taken! It was a Humanist ceremony which took place in a suitably decorated suite, while the meal and evening reception/disco etc took place in two other separate suites within the hotel. Anyone thinking of holding a wedding here should also be aware that the hotel is surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens which make a superb backdrop for wedding photos. My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There is a very nice dining room where we ate on the first evening and were impressed by the range of choices available on the menu. We dined with 2 other couples and we were all impressed by the quality of the food albeit that the service was a bit on the slow side! The hotel has a well-equipped gym and a good sized swimming pool; we used the latter but found the water to be overly chlorinated - use goggles if you have them! Overall we were very impressed by the hotel and consider it offers good value for money; it is also an ideal base for exploring the Lake District.

This is a wonderful hotel, spotlessly clean, friendly staff in a great location 20 minute walk from the centre of Kendal. The number of staff, both waiting staff and cleaning staff, ensure the smooth running of the hotel. Tables at breakfast are cleared immediately by an extremely efficient group - at no time did we have to wait for a table, even when the hotel was fully booked. I would highly recommend this hotel - we'll be back!

On our arrival we were dismayed to be faced with a long flight of steps up to reception, this was a big problem for my husband. A very helpful guest carried my case up the steps and directed us to drive further round in order to avoid the steps...a life saver. This was a very good hotel with friendly and very helpful staff, excellent restaurant and very comfortable and accessible rooms.

This was our second visit to the Castle Green Hotel. The first was several years ago and we enjoyed it then. It has been refurbished since and is really lovely, stylish decor and well appointed rooms. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We had lunch in Alexanders, only a sandwich but is was very tasty and had a lovely view from our table in the window. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and had a gorgeous meal. The lamb was the nicest I have had, pink, tender and really delicious and service was excellent. A lovely hot breakfast set us up for the day, although we were sorry to leave. Couldn't fault it, we will return.
