"Ok for a last minute choice"

4
13/09/2018

Big, old fashioned, staff were friendly enough, but I wasn't inspired. The sand dunes are a short distance away, and that was nice. The food wasn't really interesting enough and Vegans get a raw deal. I imagine older people will love it.

"Great old building"

08/09/2018

Booked a last minute two night stay, unfortunately we had a twin room so no double bed. The two single beds however were very comfortable with really nice pillows. The room was a little tired but spotlessly clean. The bathroom could also do with a refit, showers in the bath are not a good idea but this one was certainly very powerful and no problems with the hot water. Breakfast could have been better, did not get off to a good start, waited to be seated and was told to go and wait in the drawing room are and someone will be out when a table is ready, now, for a hotel of this size, you would expect a table straight away for breakfast, there were other people waiting as well and they all were of the same opinion as people naturally discuss these things. When we were called, a short wait really, we were shown into the breakfast room, but....another couple had not heeded the wait in the drawing room and proceeded to steal our table, you couldn't make it up really....so our poor waitress immediacy cleared a table and we were finally seated, after giving the other couple a few glares and stares I thought it best leave alone. We were asked for our cooked order and told it would be along shortly and to help ourselves from the real buffet etc. Very poor choice with many items either missing and or in short supply, same with the fruit juices. Picked our cereals etc and sat down. No coffee arrived, asked waitress and finally after another wait it arrived along with our breakfasts, only to be disappointed again almost every item was either luke warm or cold, they looked somewhat like they had been sitting on hot plates for quite sometime. Our toast turned up but was so toasted and hard it just broke to pieces. We ate our cold breakfast and left. Next morning a little better, got a table straight away and the breakfast was slightly warmer. A real shame as the staff do a great job for the most part, I think the kitchen staff need retraining and the breakfast manager needs to sort out the missing breakfast items, she walked passed so many times without noticing juices were empty etc. We have stayed in many many hotels and not seen this before.

"good location"

A good location for getting round the north norfolk coast. Nice site the grounds run down to the beach and views over the sea, can walk about a mile to hunstanton along the beach or the cliff path.the hotel was clean and tidy the bed room was a nice size bed was very comfortable.Breakfast had a good choice, we ate at night in the pub attached to the hotel food was good.

"Appalling meal"

1
05/09/2018

The le strange is perfectly situated with breathtaking views. The hotel is very well kept and the staff friendly and helpful. We had a meal for 28 people and I am afraid to say it was the worst restaurant meal I have ever not eaten. The smoked chicken was dry salty and inedible as was the cured salmon. I cure salmon and this must have been salted for 48 hours plus which is too long. The vegetables with the main were overcooked and mushy, but fortunately I had ordered cheese and biscuits which were fine. I hate to write this sort of stuff especially when other reviews are complimentary, but taking a big group there did not work. Perhaps 2 to 4 people is possible but the food we were served was mostly inedible.

We are very sorry to hear about your disappointing meal. We have taken on board the points that you have raised and we are discussing this with the team to ensure that this does not happen again.

"Beautiful location"

04/09/2018

This hotel is practically on the beach at Old Hunstanton with amazing views and walks right from the door. Building a little tired in places - nothing a bit of TLC couldn't fix! Breakfast and evening meals all good but the waitress service varied from absolutely excellent to slightly hopeless depending on who you got! Woken on the first morning at 7am by fire alarm which soon stopped so we guessed it was a mistake but nothing was ever said - no apology or anything! Having said that, would recommend staying here.

I have just had a wonderful evening celebrating my wedding anniversary with my husband at Le Strage Arms Hotel. The food was delicious and the service was professional. We loved being able to look over at the sea whilst dining. The staff I encountered were: Kim, Maryam, Lucy, Michael and Sheridan. A big thank you to you all for contributing to our memorable evening. The Happy Anniversary message on our plate was a lovely touch and really meant a lot to us. Other guests in the hotel also seemed very happy and we had a lovely chat with some of them.

"Weekend Break"

28/08/2018

What a beautiful location!! The Hotel is situated a stone throw away from the beach. It was charming and full of character. Our room was lovely and very comfortable. There was everything and more in the room. From refreshments to toiletries, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. We had sea view which was lovely! And there was ample parking spaces. Breakfast was amazing with a varied menu which catered to every need. The staff were so warm and friendly and we will definitely go back.

"Expensive dinner"

3
27/08/2018

The setting is lovely in the Brasserie but the dinner was very ordinary and over priced. The Eton mess was disappointing with masses of cream but very little else and the drinks from the pub next door took forever to arrive. We owill not rush back!

"Random coastal visit "

26/08/2018

Took a trip out to old Hunstanton. Visited the le strange for a drink and a recharge for lunch. It's a fantastic establishment with great views out to the sea. Very receptive bar staff and sat out the back on the decking. We decided to order some food and went for soup and just a sandwich. Food was filling and just right before a good walk along the beach. Great staff, great food and fantastic location. Parking very available.

"Enjoyable short stay"

4
24/08/2018

Spent two nights at the Le Strange Arms and found it quite charming and comfortable. The Hotel's USP is its position overlooking Old Hunstanton beach and the view from our room was lovely and relaxing. The room was clean, spacious and well appointed. Breakfast in the morning was fine although some people might bemoan the lack of buffet style service which seems to be in vogue at most hotels these days. The minus points would be that the Hotel lacks in any sort of facilities such as a pool or gym. Also the car park (despite several notices) still gets non-residents using it to go to the beach and this takes up spaces. This needs to be policed better. Overall a very nice stay and would return again

"Very enjoyable stay"

23/08/2018

Stayed with adult daughter for a short break in a twin room with a stunning sea view. A lovely old fashioned seaside hotel - slightly faded grandeur but very welcoming, almost on the beach and with pleasant terraces and garden. Pros: polite and helpful staff, very comfortable beds, lovely thick white fluffy towels, delicious food, comfortable lounges with newspapers, bar and informal Mariners restaurant right next door as well as a fascinating art and craft centre round the corner. Cons: our bedroom was very stuffy in spite of being provided with a fan; peeling wallpaper and slightly scruffy looking bathroom (although wash basin, bath and WC kept spotless); long climb upstairs to second floor as lift didn't reach our part of the hotel. But overall, we enjoyed staying here and would return.

"Not overly impressed"

2
22/08/2018

We thought it was a nice location, however on arrival we were totally ignored while the receptionist took a call, some recognition would have been nice, especially from front of house No fridge in room Had to pay for water! Very noisy corridor, so asked very early in the morning to change rooms, we stated we were more than happy to pay extra, just to catch up on the lost sleep it was impossible to sleep before midnight, and was woken at 0545. Was told no rooms were available If you want a nice peaceful hotel, this hotel would not be for you

"Family wedding"

4
15/08/2018

This is a beautiful, charming old lady of a hotel to which we have come over many years. We have enjoyed so many wonderful family holidays here and this weekend our son got married here. The whole event ran so smoothly from beginning to end, with everyone we encountered during our stay taking such good care of us all. A very special thank you to Matthew and the chefs who made sure that my special dietary needs were met throughout our stay, meaning that we could all relax and not worry about a potential medical emergency! The setting is glorious, as ever ( although, with a small amount of thought and work, the flowerbeds and garden could be much prettier and enhance the setting even further) and the rooms are comfortable and clean. It is such a very great shame that there will be no more weddings here after this year, a great mistake I think, I would recommend it as a wedding venue without reservation! The only complaint I have to make is the disgusting state of the lawn with its litter and cigarette butts everywhere. This was never the case in years gone by. Two ash trays have now appeared on the tables thankfully, but why can't the lawn vacuum from the pub next door be used to clean this mess up? Our party had many small children in it and I was always concerned when they were on the lawn that one of the very little children ( including my grandson) would pick one up and put it in their mouth or even potentially choke on one. I know that I am not the only person to have mentioned this during our stay and yet nothing really has been done to remedy the situation. However, we are very much looking forward to our next visit to this wonderful hotel which means so much to us as a family.

"Went here for a Friday eveninf Drink with family"

3
13/08/2018

My wife and myself took our relations here for a drink in the evening, and we drank in the Bar here and we found the bar itself to be very dirty and scruffy and in need of re-furbishment, although a very old building there is no excuse for a dirty and scruffy bar, needless to say the bar was very quiet for Friday night where most bars are usually heaving

"Excellent beach hotel"

4
12/08/2018

Stayed here for a few days and ended up having an additional night here. It's an extremely friendly and laid back hotel which will go to any length to help out if needed. The food at the hotel was slightly pricey but extremely tasty, and there is a bar next door that also does cheaper but still tasty food. The hotel is about a 5 min walk from the start of the beach and a 25 minute walk from the main pier, but is extremely relaxing and quiet, just like having your own quiet part of the beach to yourself. The staff were friendly and offered ideas of places to visit, as well as providing all the necessities such as a few ice buckets for our bubbly!

"Norfolk cream tea "

2
10/08/2018

We went with friends for a cream tea celebration on Friday 27th July, very disappointed ,the sandwiches were nothing at all special as were the cakes - so being that we all only ate a scone and a small piece of the lemon drizzle cake( have made much better myself) Have had many cream teas in Norfolk but have to say all have been better than this one Will not be returning

"Relaxed and friendly"

Excellent staff throughout. Comfy beds, quiet and relaxing stay. We chose a superior room at the opposite side to the pub which was perfect. Great WiFi connection and all facilities. Great breakfast choice

"2 night stay for friends wedding"

04/08/2018

We stayed at Le Strange in June and the service was wonderful. The views from the hotel, it's restaurant and the bar next door have a most wonderful view. The only reason for not giving 5 stars on this review, was due to the service at breakfast on our second day, while exemplary on the first day and everything being served promptly, efficiently and with a smile and a laugh, on day two this wasn't quite the same... After 20 mins we found out from the lovely lady who'd served us the day before that there'd been a large party in the other room (the room we were in was just for the wedding party), however, no-one had mentioned when we walked into the room that there may be a delay, in fact it took 10 mins for our coffee order alone to be taken. Having said all of the above, we did have a wonderful stay, and if it were possible to give 4.5 stars I would have done that.

"Not acceptable for the price paid"

02/08/2018

Many things were not as I expected. I have given the comments to Management. One of my main concerns was the quality of Breakfast, it was disgraceful. There were other things which I will not share with you, as you need to make your own mind up if you book this hotel.

"Fabulous Couple of Days"

5
01/08/2018

We've just returned home from a wonderfully relaxing couple of days at the Le Strange Arms - and we only wish we could have stayed longer. We booked a ‘Superior Room with Sea View', and were absolutely delighted to be given the keys to Room 106. Wow! What we got was an amazing room/suite, with a stunning view of the sea, and we couldn't have asked for better. The lounge area had its own TV - though we didn't use it. Instead, we sat in the big bay window, and just watched the sea. It was so relaxing! The bed was comfortable and huge, the bathroom clean and well-stocked with toiletries. I really couldn't fault our stay, and will definitely be back.... but only if I can stay in Room 106 again ??

"A great stay! ****"

29/07/2018

We originally booked an Air b&b for 2 nights this weekend to attend a friends wedding. We arrived Friday night to find our accommodation so horrendous we couldn't stay there! At 8.45pm my partner went to the Le Strange and explained our situation and asked if there was any chance they had 2 rooms to fit 4 if us at such late notice. The staff were absolutely fantastic. They managed to get us rooms but we had to change the next day, they knew we had a wedding to go to and told us to leave all of our bags in our rooms and they'd move them all for us during the day to our new rooms. We asked for numerous little favours during our stay and every member of staff we spoke to was so accommodating. It was a breath of fresh air to stay somewhere where customer satisfaction was so high on priority. Both rooms we had were lovely. Bright, clean and all the amenities you would want, I.e. tea/coffee facilities, toiletries etc. Beds were comfy and there were fans in both rooms. The windows were left open on our arrival so the rooms were cool and airy when we arrived. Breakfast was delightful. Continental breakfast was help yourself and then the waiter would take your order for a cooked breakfast. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would like to thank the staff for being so helpful and lovely to us. After our nightmare Air B&B, this hotel and staff really got us out of a sticky situation and made our time in Old Hunstanton a pleasure!

"disappointing"

27/07/2018

Spent one night as a get away week-end. Room 114 (carpark of next door pub and road view only) was nice and large so was the bathroom. Now for the downside : no air con (i know it was unusually hot) however no-one in housekeeping thought of opening windows to let some air in when they prepared the room, it was stifling as we arrived around 5pm! Used both fans but these did not help one bit. Opened the window (which did not open fully)! needless to say the we slept very badly..(shame as the bed was comfortable and large). The bathroom (shower only which was fine) had a view of flatroof/kitchen ventilation where the pigeons made their home... therefore did not dare open the window properly to let some air in as they would have flown in... We stupidly stayed for dinner (after a lovely long walk on the fab beach) : some items on the menu were not available. Had scampi and chips (very average I must say). Tables outside were not cleared up straight away. After that we went for a night cap and found a lovely hotel very close (where we will stay next time) : The lodge in Hanstanton. very different experience, staff great, hotel lovely! Breakfast :a young lady (with dark asymetrical hair style, sorry did not see your name) was lovely! Helpful, hospitable, efficient AND smiley!! I had full english as my first choice was not available... bacon dry, sausage overcooked, the 1 mushroom was very dry, fried egg ok but yolk overcooked, only the baked beans were nice :) So all in all, Le Strange Arms was disappointing, lifeless, did not make me feel special in any way.

Lindsey G, Marketing at Le Strange Arms Hotel, responded to this review
We are so sorry to hear of your disappointing visit, clearly this did not meet your or our expectations on this occasion. Rest assured your comments have been noted and raised with the management team.

"Afternoon Tea"

2
23/07/2018

I recently had a very disappointing experience at the Le Strange Best Western. I booked an afternoon tea. It was a belated birthday present. The staff were pleasant enough. The scones were not so pleasant. In fact Rock Hard and tasted as though they had been there all day and perhaps longer. There was a two black human hairs in our sandwiches. Some where replaced but I was unable to eat them. When the replacement arrived there was indentation of fingers in them!!! This was definitely not worth the £15 charged. I didn't want to make a scene because it was a gift experience. I would not recommend this as a pleasant experience at all

Lindsey G, Marketing at Le Strange Arms Hotel, responded to this review

"Lovely sunny Sunday"

1
23/07/2018

Popped into Le Strange as we have several times in the past. Steps leading up to the far were full of litter crisp packets etc and masses of cigarette ends obviously hadn't been swept in days. Bar empty except from two members of staff sitting obviously taking their break. We waited a sometime then headed through to lounge area (this area was spotless but empty) to see if we could find anyone to serve us ,on the way through a young man headed to the bar so we followed him back.He didn't say anything so we had to ask if he was serving ,no can I help or anything similar,we got a bit of a grunt so assumed he was,we ordered our drinks and headed off into the garden.Well what a shambles two tables were occupied but all others were piled so high with dirty China left over food on them and glasses that you couldnt even set a glass down. These had obviously been sitting for some while and had many flies and wasps round them ,this was then approximately 5 in the afternoon and I would say much of this had not been cleared from lunchtime. As this was our only option we headed off to a bench on the far side of the garden to enjoy our drinks,we were there for about 45 minutes and in that time still no one appeared to clear any of the tables so we decided not to stay for food and headed on a bit further up the coast. What has happened to this lovely old Hotel that has always been so well looked after in the past.It will be a long time before we return which is a shame as the location is fantastic.

"Very dated,"

3
22/07/2018

We booked the superior room and it was very dated, the walls were blank and it was quite depressing. The lounge needed new furniture as well as complete decoration. We paid over £200 for a very mediocre room with no sea view. Breakfast was not appetising, the scrambled egg was solid.

"Lunch on our day at the seaside."

4
22/07/2018

Stopped off for lunch and had a lovely meal outside with a fabulous sea view. The young staff members served us well, they were efficient and friendly. The food menu was limited but we found something we both enjoyed. Both had fish dishes which were tasty. The only grumble was the chips could have been hotter. We had our dog Marlow with us which was great as the establishment was dog friendly. Wish i wasn't driving as i could have sat all afternoon on the terrace having a few more pints. It was a shame that smoking was permitted on the outside terrace whilst other customers were eating.

"Oak bar "

18/07/2018

Had sharing meat platter then the cream tea , staff are friendly & polite . We enjoyed the view of the sea also . There is a lovely beach to walk on before or afterwards . There is parking for customers

"5 day break"

5
15/07/2018

We travel a lot in both in and out of the UK and rarely have we stayed at a place where we can give the maximum rating. We had the superior room with sea view with breakfast included. The room was excellent everything replaced in plenty every day, coffee, biscuits, water plus tissues. The food was excellent in both the hotel and the pub (Ancient Mariner) and the staff excellent and friendly nothing was a problem. Above all however is the location and the view and its unique setting allowing one to see magnificent sunsets on the EAST COAST

"A really relaxing stay"

5
10/07/2018

We stayed for 4 nights. Two other couples were with us. The hotel is so peaceful, has a fabulous location, so near the sea. The food was lovely, & all the staff were truly brilliant. We stayed in room 112, which was on the small size, but was cool on an evening as it didn't get the sun. The weather was exceptionally hot & we appreciated the fan provided in the room. The car park was amply big enough.

"Silly rules"

2
09/07/2018

My friend and I are of a certain age and most definitely do not have the appearance of someone who might ‘do a runner'. The staff and/or the rules of the Le Strange Hotel obviously have a different view. Last Tuesday, 3rd July we called into the hotel looking forward to a refreshing cup of tea and maybe a scone. We managed to attract the attention of a young man who looked as if he would not have called out to him. We told him that we would like tea in the sun lounge which he said would be fine. However, he then asked if we were residents and on discovering that we were not said that we had to follow him to the bar so that we could pay for our refreshmentas before being served. We decided that this was just too silly for words and decided to go to The Lodge instead. We shall not return the Le Strange which is sad as we are local and will still be here when the visitors have all gone home.

"Ancient & Modern ?."

06/07/2018

After booking well in advance, my wife and I recently had a four night stay at this Hotel and while we could endorse some of the complimentary comments from previous guests, the standard of accommodation we experienced during our stay fell well below the standard we have come to expect from the Best Western brand. We were relegated to a twin bedded room in an ancient section of the hotel which faced on to a carpark used by the adjacent Ancient Mariner pub. As a result we were each night subjected to the noisy comings and goings of the pubs patrons. During our final night and with an early start the following day, we were woken to the sounds of hysterical outpourings of a group of females who had left the pub earlier. This disturbance carried on for over three quarters of an hour without seemingly any intervention by the night porter. So much for a peaceful nights sleep. The bedroom floor in this part of the Hotel was uneven and sloped to oneside of the room and the floor boards creaked whenever one moved around. We found that the beds also sloped so that the bed head was a couple of inches lower than the foot of the bed. This was further amplified by the sagging condition of the mattress .On further examination, it was revealed that the mattress had seen better nights and an effort was being made to preserve its condition by the use of not one, but two mattress protectors. The top protector was was in a particularly unsavoury condition for a Hotel of this standard. The sleeping arrangements were solved to some extent by turning the bed around 180 degrees for the last three nights. One redeeming feature of this room was the modern bathroom with an excellent shower and an abundance of hot water [NB Caution is advised when using the wash basin as the hot water gushes out under pressure] however the bathroom was let down by a complete lack of shelving to store toilet requisites etc. As previously mentioned, we can confirm other reports of some delightful staff members and an excellent breakfast, but the sleeping arrangements which were the main reason for staying a Le Strange left a lot to be desired in this the 21st Century.

"A better than expected experience"

4
05/07/2018

I decided to go `last minute` to Norfolk, with my sister, and the most surprising thing of MOST of the hotels/specialist lodgings, that I tried to book, is that the majority do not do `single` beds !. Le Strange were one of the ones that did, so, despite there being no other choice than one room left, I decided to take that only option. The receptionists description did not do it any favours (sorry about that) and, upon arrival, the `sort of` "worn down" attitude of the first receptionist did not really give a great impression of the hotel. Admittedly she had just coped with a difficult customer and a 2 year old sitting on the counter, kicking the front of the reception desk. Not good ! Secondly we went for a drink at the Mariner bar, nice atmosphere despite it being only 11.30, but it took us 25 minutes to get served (only one customer in front) because there was a conference taking place in the building and the second member of staff (there were only two) was being `trained` (his first day). The wind was howling, it was `freezing` on this section of Britain, whereas the rest of the country was/is enjoying a heat wave. Many people sat in the sand dunes wrapped in blankets, towels and wearing `hoodies`. Bad luck I know. WHEN, at 2pm, we were allowed to look at the (only) room that we could have, and did book, we had resolved to give up the room altogether, enjoy the afternoon and go back home, saving £120.00, HOWEVER, when we viewed the room, it was nicely decorated, well equipped, really comfy beds and nice shower room - in fact - VERY much better than we had imagined. Not absolutely fantastic, but certainly an improvement on the description. We decided to stay. We had walked for miles to, and through Hunstanton in the afternoon/early evening, which is always very nostalgic, (it remains semi `in the past), so we decided to forgo the formality of the dining room and chose to eat in the Ancient Mariner conservatory, or more relaxed bar, which was still not slobby and everybody had made an effort to get changed and turned out well. The meal (admittedly only scampi and chips) was plentiful, served by an extremely pleasant young lady, hereagain who had been `poached` from the dining room because of the short staff issue - she did her absolute best and was faultless - if she didn`t know, she went and asked. The head barman was knowledgeable about which Tonic was best with which Gin, and we just had to take his advice !! Breakfast was hilarious, because the two naughty hotel gentlemen, all black and white waistcoated up, and smart, tipped us a wink to wind up the Chatelaine in charge of the dining room, and walk in early. Her feathers were absolutely ruffled, as she advised us the dining room was not open until 7.30 (it was 7.15) - but we said we would sit in the conservatory and watch the sea, ! Grudgingly, I might add, but not hostilely, she eventually asked "Do you want anything" ? and I asked for some tea - If only she had known it was those two that were having fun she might have seen the funny side - as it was, there was humour in her attitude towards me when I changed my mind from just `toast`, to two sausages and a poached egg" ! "Not much difference there then, is there" - she grumbled - but there is grumbling and grumbling and she seemed to me to be having a bit of a laugh herself. As soon as breakfast was over, we had packed already having got up early, we left and had gone by 8.45 - the morning receptionist and checker outer, was great fun, we had a laugh with everyone, and I must say that `first impressions`, were totally wrong. The hotel is `dated`, - it could do with a face lift but then so could we all - as it is it is a standing testament of a great hotel in its heyday that has stood the test of time and remains a prestigious and characterful place to stay. Next time I will book a room with a view and CHOOSE my room rather than being allocated the only one, but if this was the LAST room in the house, it STILL was a very acceptable room even by MY standards. !

Great trip, very welcoming. Highly recommended. Very clean, amazing views of the sea. Nothing was to much trouble.. looking forward to returning. Sadly didn't try the breakfast, but if to the same standard would of been first class.

"Mini Holiday - overnight stay"

This hotel cannot do enough for its visitors. From the time of booking to the time of leaving the service I received was gold star treatment. The hotel is in a most beautiful setting with amazing sea views. So beautiful to watch the sun go down in the sea, unfortunately my night was mostly cloudy. However the time sat outside waiting in a cool evening breeze was well worth if only a near sunset in the sea. The welcome you receive in the hotel in second to none. I was given offer of help with my suitcase to my room, but I was ok. The room was lovely, larger window opening that I had thought it would be, so room was very airy and spotlessly clean. The whole room had a relaxing feel about it. No one could complain about the tv size it was good, but who would want to sit in and watch tv on a nice day when this hotel has a beautiful lawn area going down to gorgeous sand dunes. I spent the evening watching the rabbits play chase on the lawn whilst sitting comfortably for my sunset. My first meal was in the restaurant's attached pub Ancient Mariner. Meal was first class, could not complain at all, service as good as the food, brilliant. Evening meal I had in Le Strange restaurant. My meal was even slightly tweaked to suit me, again excellent service and food. Don't know if it was the sea air or the bed, but I slept better than I have done in ages. Breakfast was equally good, both meals I had watching the waves on the sea. This visit was special to me as it is my only holiday I get, and I have come away feeling totally relaxed. Old Hunstanton is lovely, it is quiet, no amusement arcades, fish and chip shops etc, just excellent hotel with wonderful surroundings. What more could you want. Was sad to leave, had a lovely walk on the beach first thing in the morning, but then had to make the move home. I would stay at this hotel anytime, it is a credit to Best Western Hotels - First Class all the way. Thank you all, especially Ellie and Tracey

"Time out for lunch"

Called in for a bite to eat yesterday (Monday 18th June), just perfect, the food, wine, and all round service was excellent with wonderful views of the beech whilst enjoying our food and drink and no rushing to get rid of you after we had finished . Well worth a visit.

Dear Mick Thank you for taking time to review your lunch at the Le Strange Arms. We are very lucky to have such a lovely location overlooking the sea. We are delighted that you enjoyed your meal I have passed your comments onto the team. We hope see you again.

"Holiday with Mum"

18/06/2018

We stayed 4 nights at this lovely hotel on the recommendation of friends and we weren't disappointed. My mum is 91 and struggles a bit with walking and she hates stairs so we were very happy with the lift and slope which led to her room. The staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly and got to know us quickly. We only had breakfast at the hotel which was well cooked and delicious having a large choice of what to pick. The hotel has a restaurant in the hotel and next door is the Ancient Mariners which serves more traditional pub fayre which suited us better. Every meal we had was good. The rooms were large, clean and very comfortable. All in all an excellent few days away in Old Hunstanton. The beach cafe close by won an award while we were there and did great cakes.

Dear Sue Thank you for your 5 star review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward to welcoming you again hopefully in the not too distant future.

Just a great hotel. Staff very helpful, polite and characters. No issue was too big or little. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The location is fantastic west facing so get superb sunsets and only 2 minuets from a great beach. Parking is sufficient and easily accessed. Food of breakfast was excellent with a great range catering for vegetarians in the full breakfast if require. The evening menu was also very good and the food was excellent recommending the Steamed Salmon and spotted Dick. This was just a fabulous three day stay.

Been visiting this hotel for a number of years, great location, rather dated inside, could do with a freshen up, but isn't this what the old hotels are about, but aside from this, food is always excellant, good valuable, and nicely presented . Staff very accommodating and helpful.. will visit again

"Disturbed by very loud wedding"

4
03/06/2018

I have been coming here with my family for 15 years but sadly I may have to rethink next year. Although the hotel has loads to recommend it, particularly the fantastic location on the beach, we had to endure the loudest wedding party ever this year (thumping music from a live band). I totally get that weddings are an essential part of the business. What upset me however is that the reception staff told us that the music would stop at 11.30 (reasonable) but it was still pumping out 40 minutes later. I had to call reception again to find out what was going on. Not great. Even when the music stopped there were lots of people laughing and shouting outside for another 45 minutes or so. I have wrestled with the catagory for this review, because I do love the place. But don't come if you want peace and quiet guaranteed. There is no aircon so shutting out the noise is not an option on a warm night.

Have stayed in this hotel over the years and it is consistently super for rooms ,dining and especially position.(Almost on the beach) Easy free parking and very efficient and friendly staff. You can dine in the hotel or l in the ajoining Ancient Mariner pub which is family and dog friendly

"Very Enjoyable Single Night Stay"

28/05/2018

We booked a single night mid-week stay here, for a minor celebration. Hotel parking is plentiful, and all the hotel staff throughout our stay were efficient and friendly. Our room was a touch old fashioned, but non the worse for that, and had everything that we needed. Indeed more wardrobe and chest space than is usual in modern hotels. Wi-fi worked well. There are several lounge and bar areas, all with pleasant vibes. There is also a summer house (key available on request) at the end of their lawn area, overlooking the sand dunes and sea. Overall the hotel has an atmospheric situation. We had booked for dinner at their adjoining pub - but the dining room menu was available and was priced better than their online sample menu. I popped into the Ancient Mariner, and this is akin to a Chef & Brewer style pub. It was OK, but it is irritating when they don't have a wine list. So we changed the booking and ate in the hotel's restaurant instead. This was a good decision, our meal was excellent, all dishes well presented and tasty. It was fine dining rather than hearty eating proportions. The wine list was pretty good, and reasonably priced. Our bottle of southern French Pinot Noir was a lovely light red, and good value. A very good dinner experience. The dining room feel is again more traditional, rather than "buzzy". The breakfast was a pretty good selection of buffet items, cooked items to order. All ingredients were good quality. The coffee was a decent strength - quite rare in our experience! However my favoured UK breakfast item, smoked haddock with poached egg - was subject to a supplement! I found this really irritating - even more so had I paid the full standard room rate. However, overall we really enjoyed our first stay at this hotel, and we have added it to our list of favourite hotels (within a 2 hour drive) for a chill out or celebration break.

"Amazing lunch..."

27/05/2018

Had a 3 course lunch at a gentleman's lunch club meeting and was super impressed not just by the choice but also the quality of the food and it's presentation. The roast beef and Yorkshire putting was virtually the size of a small house! And the Hake, which I had was cooked to perfection with a crispy skin. Would most certainly recommend as the food is spectacular and the cost is moderately proportionate.

27/05/2018

Wanted a break in a quiet location by the sea, and drove 90 minutes to reach the Le Strange Arms Hotel. Lovely location, beautiful room (room 118 with four poster bed). Free parking with plenty of spaces. Had one dinner in restaurant and enjoyed it. Adjacent pub is good, and has different menu. Would recommend.

26/05/2018

Due to our age we needed to go back to the hotel for a rest midday before venturing out again. Our room was very comfortable and we appreciated the arm chairs. Also, it was nice to have a sea view and we enjoyed watching the kite surfers whizzing about when the tide was in. It was only a short walk to the beach. A beautiful quiet and clean beach. We also liked the nearby pitch and putt golf course.

21/05/2018

This was our very first time back to Hunstanton in a very long time, but we were so pleasantly surprise when we arrived at the best western the location was brilliant and right on the beach. The hotel looked great from the time we arrived in the carpark and the service was second to none. We spent Friday night at the theatre and it was a nice gentle stroll from the hotel to the seafront. Cant wait to go back

"Afternoon Tea"

18/05/2018

As one of our party has mobility problems I was a little concerned about access etc need not have worried as access is fine and on seeing the issue staff very quickly accomodated us without any fuss. The tea was quick to arrive and was presented on a range of attractive platters. The attention to detail in the presentation was incredible and looked very impressive. The taste of the sandwiches and cakes on offer did not let us down, all the items were fresh and tasty with very good quality ingredients having been used. All this with a sea view on a sunny afternoon, Tea and coffee were replenished and “ doggie bags” offered to take home the cakes that were not eaten . I am not sure anyone ever finishes them all as there were such a lot and they were all yummy. The staff were friendly , efficient and a credit to the hotel. We will return for a stay at some point and enjoy the full range of facilities on offer.

"Wonderful location next to the sea"

04/05/2018

Situated in a quiet lane in Old Hunstanton, the Le Strange is build of typical local carrstone and is full of character. It has long been a favourite with locals and visitors alike, and it's reputation is well-deserved. We stayed in Room 220, a twin on the second floor, which faced inland and east so had plenty of morning sun (very welcome after the wet winter and spring we've endured). The lack of a lift might be challenging for some. The beds were super-comfortable, the linen was crisp and white, the towels were fluffy, there was plenty of hot water, and everything was spotlessly clean (NB: could someone please iron the valances, or better still upgrade to hotel standard?) The evening meal in the hotel's restaurant was very good indeed, with sensible portions in relation to prices, and the service was very good. Breakfast was also high quality and pleasantly served. The staff throughout were helpful and friendly. My only gripe is being asked to pay for the room on arrival, even though our restaurant bill was almost as much as the accommodation and we settled that the following morning at checkout. Nothing says "we don't trust you" quite so clearly. I believe this is Best Western policy, but it often puts me off booking a BW hotel for that very reason. All in all though we would stay again - it was most enjoyable and highly recommended.

"Lovely hotel with great views"

01/05/2018

Stayed here for a one night break, 6 of us ranging in age from 8 months to 81 years and it fitted the bill for all. We took our own travel cots (twins) and had the room with the 4 poster to accommodate them. We had early evening drinks in the bar which were reasonably priced and the bar is very spacious with plenty of seating. Ate in the Ancient Mariner which is always good and great value. Breakfast was very good and it was helped by the pre breakfast stroll on the beach. Will return, better take my husband next time!

Stayed here for two nights with my brother as part of a larger group. Great location on the beach. Food for breakfast and dinner was good. Also good food next door at the pub. Friendly staff and good service. Lots of stairs to our room. No lift. All good but you wouldn't want a particularly heavy bag.

"Lovely Location"

23/04/2018

Had previously stayed here on business & was so impressed we booked for 3 nights this April. Room was fabulous (106) but due to higher demand we had to move for the 3rd night! Staff & Management were all extremely accommodating, which was just as well based on our dining experience. Ate at The Lodge Inn on first 2 nights (fabulous food) & decided to have our last evening in the hotel's dining room..... dishes served were not quite what was on the menu! Standard of evening meal was far from the high quality of food served at breakfast. This particular dining experience was such a shame given that everything else during our stay was perfect! The Management Team resolved our complaint extremely well & it's for this reason that I'm happy to give 5 as a rating. In essence, I'd highly recommend this establishment for accommodation, breakfast, supportive front of house Team.... but without the Head Chef on location for the guests dining there I'd recommend eating at The Lodge.

"Last minute overnight break."

17/04/2018

As frequent visitors to the NW Norfolk coast, we booked last minute for a one night break. Our brief break was spoilt by the worst evening meal I had eaten since the 1970s! Overpriced mains at £17 - tiny portions- bland, colourless, lacking in fresh veg - home cooking at its worst. The gnocchi with red mullet was presented without the gnocchi (run out) so a tiny fillet of fish arrived on top of 3 boiled potatoes and a few specks of some kind of veg in a watery sauce. We were refunded the cost of one of our mains. Having eaten in most of the hotels and pubs along the coast, I feel that Le Strange must bring itself up to date with current diners' expectations. Last ate at The Old Bank Snettisham, which is cheaper and several 100% better. Maybe we were unlucky and the chef was not present at Le Strange last Saturday night? On the plus side, the breakfast was excellent. (Housekeeping, please remove the deep layer of dust on the restaurant conservatory window ledges and cobwebs above!) We had a nice room with huge comfortable double bed. Bathroom with flaking paint had a good efficient hot shower. Hotel is in a wonderful position with direct access to fantastic beach. Fulmars nesting on the cliffs are a sight to behold! Probably would return if last minute offers were favourable, but only B and B.

"Very Disappointing.............."

13/04/2018

A 4 star hotel it most certainly is not, more a 3 star. It's tired & needs refurbishing. Downstairs public areas are well kept - but our bedroom was appalling. Torn, dirty nets at the window, painted walls grubby & flaking in areas, radiator loosely attached to the wall, really very dusty radio & phone on bedside cabinets which brings me to the bed.......where to start - the valance was torn, the duvet cover was a king or s/king size on a double duvet which meant the surplus just hung down on the carpet & carpet debris ( not noticeable straight away as it had been conveniently tucked in!). Not once whilst we were there did housekeeping make the bed properly but simply tidied up the duvet leaving the bottom sheet as we had slept in it - messy with no attempt made to straightened it out - just covered over with the duvet. Which brings me to the bed - a very small double indeed with an old fashioned wooden headboard - it was hard & lumpy, & when in it there was a strong smell of dust coming from it which I suspect was from the base - it was so prominent that we both had rhinitis in the mornings - in fact my husband slept with bits of tissue up his nostrils to avoid breathing it in! That bed should have been binned a long time ago. The fact that it only just fitted in between two walls where it was positioned is most certainly why it's been kept. I would not normally accept a room like this, but we had arrived late after a long journey & had an appointment in the area first thing in the morning so we put up with it for the remainder of our stay - the hotel was very full so I doubt that they would have moved us anyway. I mentioned all this to reception on checking out - she was not interested & said she'd have a word with housekeeping!!! That room should not exist! All this sounds like we got a 'cheap' room - far from it - we paid the going rate which is expensive - especially for what we had & I had booked directly with them weeks beforehand, so no excuse! I can also see now why they take full payment upfront on arrival. I think their past success has totally lessoned their customer focus. On the plus side - the plumbing was good with hot showers & hot radiator, the breakfast was good The position of the hotel is lovely but not lovely enough to make us return - ever!

"Lovely old hotel"

06/04/2018

This hotel is superbly positioned for the beach - a lovely green and car park in front, then miles of beach, with the stripy cliffs to one side and lovely walks the other. Service was very friendly and efficient and the four poster bed was extremely comfortable and worth the extra few quid. Old Hunstanton is somewhat more picturesque than 'New' Hunstanton - I can recommend this hotel.

04/04/2018

My wife and I recently stayed at the LeStrange Hotel and we had a lovely seven days holiday. We had a see view room which was well maintained, clean and very spacious. During our stay the weather was very bad with snow, below zero temperatures on several days, strong winds, rain and some sunshine but throughout our stay the whole of the hotel was warm and comfortable. We had a choice of places to eat within the hotel complex and the food was excellent and plentiful. We would like to thank all the management and staff for making our holiday at the LeStrange Hotel so comfortable and memorable and will certainly be booking another holiday.

"Disappointing"

26/03/2018

I recently booked a birthday surprise for my wife at the Le Strange, Old Hunstanton. I have wanted to stay here for some years but it is not cheap. To our disappointment the sea view room was not clean. We found cobwebs hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom & the dado rail visibly full of dust by the bed. It's not like Three In A Bed where they go hunting for the dirt this was clearly on show & at £153.00 a night it is well below par. I rang to confirm my booking 2 days before arrival & as we wish to eat in the Ancient Mariner Inn next door to the hotel I was advised to book which I did with the hotel. When we arrived they had no record of the booking. Most embarrassing for us. We had to wait for a table to become free. The Ancient Mariner staff blamed the Hotel Reception & the Hotel reception blamed Ancient Mariner staff saying an email had been sent at the time I booked. Well that did not help us & spoiled our evening. Breakfast in the hotel was very good the following morning & staff more than accommodating. The hotel is right on the beach & we enjoyed a lovely walk by the cliffs into Hunstanton. I can recommend the area & the hotel could have been lovely but I was very disappointed with our experience & my surprise weekend was not as I had planned.

25/03/2018

Al the amenities of the current day but with the romance of the the 1920s. Hotel overlooks the sea with paths through the dunes. No road between the hotel and the beach. I did not eat in so cannot comment on the food but the restaurant looked inviting. Utterly charming. Several bars all overlooking the sea. What not to love.

"boathouse B1 room stay"

2
25/03/2018

we booked 1 night in the boathouse room B1. Room was OK clean but furnishings were old and dark wood.we had our daughter with us and there was a sofa bed all setup for her but no way could she sleep on it as the mattress was about 1 inch thick and you could feel everything under it so she had one of the beds and the wife and myself had the other bed.the bathroom was OK but not as clean as i would have liked with big cobwebs hanging in the shower area and along the back wall.tea, coffee etc. was provided.there is an interlocking door to B2 room which made any noise from there room so audible and was not nice.we also had our dog with us and we housed him in his cage which was nice for him.we ordered a breakfast to come to the room so we could eat it in the same room as our dog.my daughter ordered cereal which came but no milk came with it so she had no breakfast,we also ordered tea but also no milk, ordered the fruit,no fruit came.we decided to have a little walk with our dog on the beach before we left for home and it was great but when we came back to the room to get ready to leave there was housekeeping in our room taking all the bed lining off and he said we had checked out,we said no we had not yet checked out.also there was dog mess down the path to our room so we reported it and the reception lady said she would get it cleaned up but it was still there as we left.we also said about the fact housekeeping was in our room before we had even left and the receptionist didn't seem to bothered as one of us could have been in the shower of anything so was very upset about that.my feeling is that because we had a dog with us the room and its furnishings and decorative ored was a bit lacking in my opinion.

Short 3 nights on a winter break deal which was such good value. Room was clean, comfortable a good size, with a good shower and huge bed. The cooked breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Plenty of chairs in the lounge to sit and just read, have a coffee or just look at the view. All the staff were really friendly. Really good location for walking, and right on the beach. Would most definitely return.

Visited for a 3 night weekend break just a few days ago; hadn't managed to book in here for over two years ,and yet the pleasant welcome at reception made us at home immediately .A sea view room had been totally redecorated and a super new bath room with a great shower installed ! Breakfasts were a treat ,and food next door in The Mariners of some quality ,and quantity at reasonable prices . The self catering accomodation has been expanded upon, and a welcome look around revealed spacious rooms ,well presented and furnished to a high standard ; with flexible booking arrangements . We've been visiting here for probably 20 yrs , and can very much recommend especially on the basis of this experience .

A very pleasant surprise to find that we were given superior, 4 poster bed accommodation! The staff were extremely pleasant, and breakfast choice more than adequate with cold and cooked options. Right by the beach. Nice spot. Pub does cheaper meals (and very good value and quality they are too). I stayed on a very cold and dark February night with a gale blowing....suspect I'd have given it better marks on a nicer day. Room was comfortable and cosy. Breakfast pricey but nice - book in advance and save a few quid.

A four night midweek break in the hotel, including breakfast and an evening meal. The sea view room was warm and comfortable. The food was excellent and served by helpful and friendly staff. The location in Old Hunstanton is ideal for beach walkers. The two mile walk along the shoreline to Hunstanton at low tide is a real joy.

"Annual Birding Trip"

4
13/02/2018

Every January we (a group of around 8 guys) spend 3 days in Norfolk to start our year lists. The Le Strange has been our venue for the last 5 or so years. Staying midweek, we usually get an excellent discount. Great setting, warm and comfortable rooms, pleasant and friendly staff. This year, the main meals were slightly disappointing, a couple of them weren't hot, and the choice was unusually limited. On the other hands, the breakfasts were better than ever- somehow lighter than the usual full english, beautifully presented, and toast made from much more interesting bread than is normal. Only the evening meal stopped this being a 5/5 score. Access to the snooker room after dinner is a much appreciated bonus!

"Great two day break"

5
08/02/2018

We stayed at the Le Strange for two nights and used a fantastic discount package which enabled us to have a sea view room and breakfast for both days at the grand price of £150.00!! We have stayed before and really love this hotel. The room (107) had a lovely view of the sea and was clean with a big bathroom which had a bath and a shower .We ate in the Sunset room the first night and with the 50% discount which we got on line for all food was a really nice meal although I would say without the discount could be pricey. We felt the breakfasts were really good and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. The hotel is old fashioned without doubt but we feel this adds character to the hotel rather than some generic rooms we have stayed in. We are looking to book this for our elderly parents as the lift from the ground floor will be ideal for them. Thank you for a lovely stay again and we will be back soon. Heather and Darren

"a good choice in Hunstanton"

3
02/02/2018

Its like a three star plus hotel. located at the nicer north end of hunstanton which is more beach huts as opposed to caravans. our room was fine, clean with all the bits and tea making kit. kind of 90's style but plenty of life left in the fittings yet. Staff were polite, friendly is perhaps pushing it. The breakfast is of a decent standard, nothing wow but quite good. its in a group of three abacus hotels which operate under a best western umbrella. the beach is about 100metres from the hotels and is its best feature. there is a comfy seating lounge to read a paper. no dog restrictions at this end of the beach. Ref the pricing its worth doing a comparison site: the people in the next room paid nearly three times what we did so its shall we say a flexible pricing arrangement here. the ancient mariner pub serves meals and is essentially integrated with the hotel. Again here its worth locating a discount voucher, many meals are listed at say £14 which is expensive but at £7 is fair. We have been coming here for several years but its lost its special feel and you get the feeling the accountants are running the business now. I doubt we will return but if you need to go to Hunstanton this is a good choice esp if you like beach walks

This was the second time we have visited this hotel. The first time was for Sunday lunch which was excellent good food and good service. The second time which we have just come back. from was for a wake and we stayed overnight. Again we were well looked after by the staff always helpful and the food very good again. There are though just 2 things that should be mentioned,in the evening we had to keep going to reception to ask for someone to serve us at the bar it was not a great inconvience because once they located him he was very helpful and carried our drinks down to the snooker room. The second thing was a bit annoying. The room was clean had a lovely big and comfortable bed,but the bathroom was freezing especially the tiles, they defiantly require some sort of heating in there as we could not get out of there quick enough. However having said that, would I stay here again, yes I would because the staff and food are very good also you have great views looking out to sea.

"Ok for a short stay"

20/01/2018

The room we stayed in was fine - we had a room at the end of a corridor and so it was lovely and quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fine with a good choice. The evening meal were very well cooked however portion size was an issue. The pâté starter was very small. The main course would have literally fitted on my hand! I had the pork which came with mash and "seasonal vegetables". The small portion of mash was approx 1 inch wide and 3 inches long. The piece of pork sat on top at one end and the veg consisted of one very baby carrot which was smaller than my little finger (female), and one microscopic baby leak! Such a shame as ver nicely cooked.

We stayed at this hotel on the nights of 17th & 18th December. It was a bitterly cold day on the day we arrived at about 5.00pm. When we got to the room there was no heating on. It was a large room with a small radiator which had not been switched on. We had to sit with our coats on as it was so cold. We switched the radiator on and it immediately started to come on. Unfortunately it was such a large and old room that it was going to take ages to warm up. We reported this when we went down for dinner . They offered to move us but there didn't seem much point for one more night. The bathroom had no form of heating whatsoever, not even a towel rail and it was a stone tiled floor so very cold. The shower head was fixed so could not be removed or altered. We booked an early morning call which never happened. We reported this the following day as we wanted another one (which they did get right). The food in the restaurant was very good and the restaurant staff were good. Tissues run out and were not repleneshed when the room was cleaned. Toilet roll holder handing off the wall, very dangerous. We have stayed in several Best Western Hotels over the years and have never come across one as bad as this. We certainly wouldn't stay there again and would not recommend it to our friends. Great pity as the setting was beautiful.

First class hotel with a superb restaurant, it has a varied and delicious menu, they have an excellent pastry chef whose desserts are to die for. Rooms are cosy and very comfortable, staff are a delight and nothing is too much trouble. this hotel and restaurant is a hidden gem well worth going out of your way for a visit.

"This has got even better."

£51 b&b, what value (high season goes to £120). Room 220 is huge, though you have to hope next door are quiet people and the room key card needed re-setting 4 times and the housekeeper were all friendly and helpful with this. The evening meal in the dining room was the best I can remember. seafood platter with loads of smoked salmon, prawns and mackerel pate, and excellent roast beef for main. The restaurant service was faultless (Daniel) and could not have been better. The breakfast sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs were the best.

"Nice hotel"

12/01/2018

We had an excellent suite well decorated , the breakfast and one evening meal we had were very good. Ate next door in the pub , bit overpriced, nothing special and pub wasn't looking too clean. It was very quiet time of season so a lot of mature'r clients twitchers favourite . Staff very good. Would imagine the hotel and location in the summer is superb

"Given it another try and fantastic"

11/01/2018

Last year I gave a very bad review on our stay at the La Strange, but as it is 42 years since we first started to go there we decided to give it another try, So pleased we did, first we were given a room on the 3rd floor at the back with no lift, being asmatic I was almost passing out by the time we reach our room, the cleaning ladies immeadiatly went down and rearrange a room, two ladies came to take our luggage, Dinner that night was superb and was the breakfasts, the staff old faces and New were all so friendly and help ful. We will return !

"First Class Hotel"

08/01/2018

used Tesco Clubcard vouchers to get 2 night stay for my birthday. The room was huge with a lounge and seperate bedroom with a spotless modern bathroom. The total cost would have been £150 for 2 nights bed & breakfast, which I would be happy to pay. Will certainly return.

"Wonderful wooms, dreadful dinners and cold kites!"

2
08/01/2018

I'm one of those mad people who enjoy combining freezing water with big kites, yes I'm a kitesurfer! So when looking for a hotel to take my 90 year old father, wife and teenage daughter for a weekend, the proximity of one of the best kiting beaches in the country played some part in my choice. To be honest I wasn't expecting much, so the surly receptionist, lack of real beer at the bar and helpful advice that if we wanted afternoon tea we should really have pre-ordered did little to change my preconceptions ........ or my humour To be fair, the teas (when they arrived) were lovely, the rooms, views and log fire all wonderful. Expected service was however resumed at dinner, which was probably the worst I have experienced in a hotel of this category. If you wanted to eat meat the choice was between pork and a badly cooked, tasteless sirloin steak. Both were terrible and went largely untouched. So stay here for the rooms, walk along the marvellous beach and eat your pre-ordered afternoon tea whilst taking in the view. Don't eat in the restaurant. Go next door to the pub for hopefully better food and real beer, or go eat fish and chips in the town whilst dodging seagulls. And last of all remember that if you arrive on one of the few days each year when the wind is blowing in from the east, you will have to go round the coast to Brancaster to kitesurf in the cold.

"Great staff and breakfast"

07/01/2018

I don't write many reviews but do like to give credit where it's due. The hotel itself is fine if you want an affordable base to explore the north Norfolk coast, with the rooms clean and comfortable but nothing special, although the hot/powerful shower was very welcome at the end of a long day out and about. The main reason for this review is to say thank you to the 2 ladies who served breakfast on the mornings of Friday 5 and Saturday 6 January 2018. They couldn't have done enough for us and the breakfast itself was also very hearty and filling. Based upon this alone it is very likely that we will return at some point.

"Was like a nightclub"

Loud Music and staff that thought they were on a night out , if you want to deafened by music in there then please go in there . My partner asked them to turn it down only for them to crank it up even louder . Food was satisfactory but with a classy bar do you really want music playing loudly in your ears ? Shall never be eating in there again £14 for fish and so noisy as well

"Post Christmas escape.."

02/01/2018

We (myself, partner and daughter) stayed just for 1 night at Le Strange Arms inbetween Christmas and New Year to recharge the batteries...Our Room was enormous! and our daughter had her own bedroom which was a real treat for her with her own TV!...The facilities in the room were very good..with tea making facilities and even Hot Chocolate..(very welcome on a particularly cold day)...The hotel itself is what I would call traditional - slightly old fashioned..but very comfortable and more than well equipped for a short stay...The location for us was perfect..very close to the beach..wouldn't hesitate to rebook this hotel in the future..

"Christmas Break"

3
28/12/2017

Having booked a 3 night Christmas Break at this Hotel we were disappointed to be allocated a table for our stay in the Bar area it lacked a Christmas atmosphere, my Wife had to ask for some Christmas music to be played during our meals, also my Wife had to ask for some Table Decorations as they were available on Tables in the main restaurant. Our Christmas dinner was also disappointing as the Brussels where hard and we could not get a Fork into them, the Potatoes on the Evening Buffet where so hard and uncooked we could not eat them. The one good thing was the free Christmas Hamper left in our Sea View room which had a lovely view ,but the Shower over the Bath could be a problem for anyone with a Mobility problem. I do not think we will be staying at the La Strange Arms Hotel again.

"Lovely traditional, but modern, hotel on the coast!"

25/12/2017

Stayed there just one night and was pleasantly surprised. Very rational olde-worlde built, but clean and updated interior. Great location, virtually minuets from the beach. Rooms were very comfortable. I did not try the restaurants or bars though. I shall be going back and taking my wife with me some time.

"Trip to Thursford Christmas Show"

4
22/12/2017

We travelled with Memory Lane Holidays and Travel to visit the Thursford Christmas show, staying at Le Strange Arms hotel. It is a lovely hotel overlooking the sea which must be really lovely in Summer. There was a good selection on the menu for Breakfast and Evening meal, something to suit everyone. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The show was very good with amazing costumes and brilliant singers. There was a grotto to visit before the show which is fantastic and at a price of only £5 when you produce your tickets for the show. Really worth seeing. There was a large marquee where food and drinks were available at reasonable prices.

"This is for Tracey on reception......"

16/12/2017

We were let down on the 1st night of a 3 night private rental property and as such had to frantically find FOUR bedrooms for 8 of us and the night and a dog. Almost no hope was expected but along came Tracey from Le Strange Hotel. She checked us into the Boat House in the grounds of the hotel which enabled us to enjoy the start of our family weekend away. The apartments were really good, toastie warm, very clean and equipped well enough for all needs. Her help didn't end there........ the following day we got into our lovely private rental property only to discover they don't include towels! A quick call to Tracey and problem solved...... a deposit placed and we were given plenty of Le Strange Arms fluffy towels with the promise to return them. Honestly, we couldn't of expected anymore than the reception and housekeeping team offered us that day - we weren't even residents anymore yet they continued to give support. Do stay there and sample the courtesy and service - also eat at Mariners as we did for 2nights, the menu was pretty standard but tasty, what made it extra special was again the team who couldn't do enough to help. All we can say is they must have very good people in Hunstanton!!!! One last shout out to Tracey - you put yourself out and gave that bit extra which meant that we managed despite all the problems, to have a good weekend after all. Flowers are on their way. "Stunning location......food poor"

04/12/2017

A comfortable slightly dated hotel in a superb location over looking the sea. Rooms are a good size. However, bathroom was freezing cold. The biggest disappointment was the food. £17.50 for lamb which was no better than a microwave meal and clearly reheated. Steamed salmon was raw in the middle. Prawn and crayfish cocktail made us laugh out loud. Defrosted tasteless Prawns on a plate covered by 2 gem lettuce leaves. However, Kim the waitress was lovely and very attentive. Love the hotel but would definitely not eat there again.

We stayed here on Tues night oh my what a lovely hotel , the setting is stunning right on the beach in old Hunstanton we walked on the lovely huge beach . The room we had was awesome with views of said beach . The breakfast was the best we have both eaten anywhere , staff very friendly , didnt want to leave so relaxing . Will be back .

20/11/2017

We had a room overlooking the sea and we stayed in the Boathouse as well. A great three days. Beach is at the end of the car park. Rooms, service and meals great. Will go back again. The hotel added on 2 extra days at our request which meant shifting rooms, but all was good.

"Accommodation Fine, food not so good"

3
19/11/2017

Old style hotel but very comfortable. Rooms spacious and well appointed. Older rooms can be a little cold due to single glass sash windows. Bathroom very large but very cold to! Evening meal was "Chef's Recommendations". No a la carte available. Food poor quality. Chose roast lamb and trimmings. Lamb not fresh, sliced from previously used joint, emersed in gravy and reheated. Yuk! Creme Caramel, was tasteless and overcooked. Not 4* quality.

"Exceeded all expectations"

19/11/2017

We are 3 ladies who were looking for a hotel in the Hunstanton area for one night as part of planned birthday celebrations. We were looking for one room for the 3 of us which the hotel were unable to offer. However, they suggested a 3 bedrooms apartment above the boat house rather than in the hotel itself. Wow! They apartment had an open plan kitchen/lounge with full sized cooker, dishwasher and fridge together with dining table, sofa and TV. There were 3 double en-suite bedrooms which were beautifully furnished and clean. The lounge had a balcony with stunning views over the dunes and sea. It was beautiful and warm with generous supplies of drinks and biscuits. We chose to eat in the Mariners Are next door to the hotel and in the morning made the short walk into the hotel for breakfast. Although the dining room was busy the service was quick and our food beautifully cooked. I cannot find fault with any aspect of our stay.

"Hope to return."

14/11/2017

This is a good hotel in a lovely location. It has character and charm and good facilities. From arrival: The car park is large but with only a few disabled spaces. The reception staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient allocating us excellent rooms for both our recent stays (I'd forgotten to book easy access rooms). The rooms are spacious, have super comfortable beds and well equipped bathrooms with good quality toiletries. We ate our evening meals at the pub next door - separate review - but the hotel breakfast was delicious (beautiful eggs!!) and served by friendly and efficient staff. That's Duston for you ????. Be aware that not all 1st & 2nd floor rooms have lift access.

"Good times at Le Strange's on the shore"

5
09/11/2017

Been visiting the area for years and always liked the look of Le Strange Arms Hotel, so decided to give it a go for a short midweek break, based in part on good reviews on Trip Advisor. It did not disappoint, a traditional hotel with about 40 rooms, friendly, attentive staff, a quiet relaxed atmosphere, comfortable, great views across The Wash, and very good food. You can eat in the restaurant, the Ancient Mariner Bar next door,(which has a good selection of real ales), or even the lounge bar. We had a lovely warm room with a sea view. The hotel is just a few yards up from Old Hunstanton beach with pleasant walks in either direction, one option is to stroll along to Holme next the sea and have a pint in the local there. The second night of our stay the hotel was really busy, full occupancy I should say, but even so the staff and kitchen coped admirably, and our excellent dinner was served up with no discernible delay. A very good experience and we look forward to returning for another visit.

"Great relaxing break"

Excellent location, almost right on the beach, with great views across The Wash from the lounge and dining room windows. Friendly staff. Very comfortable bedroom with two armchairs and plenty of space. Great location for visiting North-West Norfolk. Will certainly return in the future.

Was given a large double room with a huge bed which was very comfortable. Breakfasts very good selection, dinner would be improved with better portion of vegetable accompaniment - it was unclear on menu how little this would be however fish was cooked to perfection

"Another great visit"

02/11/2017

Second visit to this warm friendly hotel. We didn't eat there apart from breakfast which was good other than there was no dairy free spread. They are leaving the Best Western group soon and I hope they don't change much or put up their prices as we enjoy staying there.

"Amazing"

31/10/2017

What an amazing hotel. Right on the edge of the sand dunes, Peacefully situated in the corner of Old Hunstanton. We had a sea view room and it was exactly that. Truly Awesome. Right from the minute we walked through the door we were made very welcome with really friendly and helpful staff. The room was comfortable and nicely furnished - with that hotel rarity some comfy chairs to sit on. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were plump and luxurious - and plentiful! Just one thing to note when you book if you need it - the lift doesn't access all rooms, so mention it if that matters to you. A brilliant stay

Booked for a meal with friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary which we had a meal at ancient mariners and thought we would use the le-strange wonderful table with wonderful views and the meal and attention to detail was brilliant Staff were attentive and the meal was great, as we live in thornham it was lovely to eat outside the village and have a wonderful time with friends that celebrated with us 2 years ago Thank you for making us so welcome and will be visiting you again

Pleasant and comfortable base to explore North Norfolk. Beautiful setting, right on the beach. The staff were extremely helpful. Breakfast was very good but I felt that the dinner was overpriced for the standard of food.

"RELAXING"

5
06/10/2017

We have again visited this wonderful Hotel in Old Hunstanton for a long week-end break and once again we were not disappointed. The staff offer a fantastic service and the rooms are wonderful. The breakfast was lovely and this year the cooked option was exceptional. Hats off to the chef. The new log cabin in the grounds we are not too sure about whether it sits right or not, so jury out on this one. However, we had a wonderful break and were able to relax and enjoy what can only be said is a lovely view.

"Best (Western) in the West (corner of Norfolk!)"

5
02/10/2017

The Best Western Le Strange Arms is truly a favourite coastal hotel of ours secluded in grounds just a stone's throw from one of Norfolk's fabulous sandy beaches. This delightful Hotel property consisting of a large country house with a tastefully designed modern annex on one side and a brilliant quaint pub/restaurant on the other, (along with a self catering chalet unit adjacent in its grounds), faces west across the corner of the Wash often out to wonderful sunsets. The service here is lovely with very friendly and helpful staff which is why we have been visiting here for some years and always look forward to returning - it is simply a great hotel in a wonderful part of North west Norfolk. As mentioned, it's the shortest walk from an amazing beach and the shortest drive from some stunning Norfolk countryside inland. With such a great place like the Le Strange Arms hotel to rest well, relax well and eat well, what's not to like? Love it (:))

"very nice place to stay"

"GOLDEN WEDDING"

5
16/09/2017

WE have just celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary with a lunch for 80 family and friends at The Le Strange Arms Hotel and cannot fault anything. The help from Tanya and Matthew in the arrangements can only be described as FIRST CLASS and together with the help of Brian Russell of Norwich Artists made sure the whole event went without a hitch. The food was excellent and from the comments from our guests could not have been better and the same can certainly be said of the service. Many of our guests stayed at the hotel over the weekend and from their comments we gather they were more than delighted with everything. All this together with entertainment by the Waiter Singing Service made the event one we shall remember for ever. Congratulations and thanks go to all the hotel staff for making it so.

"Great stay - but inadequate disabled parking"

5
12/09/2017

We stayed at the Le Strange Arms Hotel for 2 nights commencing 3rd September on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and upgraded to a second floor superior twin with walk-in shower and sea view. The main problem we faced was that, when we arrived for check-in, there were no disabled spaces. There only are three in total at the side of the hotel which was then accessed by steep steps. We can't walk a long way and so this was an issue for us as there were no other spaces (probably because it was a sunny Sunday). However, the sitting room in room 211 had four comfy chairs, coffee table, desk, TV and two large wardrobes. The bedroom also had a tv and drawer space. The bathroom was immaculately clean and had a bath and walk-in shower (with non-slip mat) and plenty of soft towels and toiletries. The only negative was the poor loo paper – it never tore on the lines!!! Dinner was lovely on both nights. Plenty of choice; well cooked food; attentive service. The breakfasts were also as you would expect from a 4* hotel – good choice, good service and well cooked. We'll definitely be back even though the hotel will not be under the BW banner next year.

"A Nice 2 Night Break"

4
11/09/2017

Husband and I stayed at the Le Strange Arms Hotel for 2 nights commencing 2nd August. We had seen this hotel on many occasions when we have visited Hunstanton for the day and had always said we would stay there. Arrived a bit too early to check in so had a drink in the adjacent Ancient Mariner which has a good outside area to sit out in when the weather is fine. We went back just after 2 to check in. We had Room 221 in the “new” wing and was pleasantly surprised as to how spacious it was. It had everything you would want with a comfortable kingsize bed, tea/coffee making facilities and a good size shower room. There was lots of wardrobe/drawer capacity. Room was kept very clean during our stay. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, as when I phoned hotel to enquire as to some idea what the set menu might be on the 1st night half board deal, they were unable to give me any idea and in fact when we asked in the bar on the first day there they still couldn't tell me up till nearly 5ish, said it was up to the chef! Breakfast is served in the Le Strange restaurant with the usual fruit juices, cereals etc buffet and your order is taken for tea/coffee and cooked breakfast. The first morning the service was excellent but the second morning no one asked us what we wanted to drink for a considerable time until I got up to ask and then again no one asked us what we wanted to eat until we made an effort to call someone over. We had booked prior to staying to have dinner in the Sunset Room part of the Ancient Mariner Pub for the 2 nights we were there and we were very pleased with the food and service. I had read on TripAdvisor that you could pick up a half price voucher and whilst we were in the tourist office in Hunstanton got 2 of these so our meals were exceptional value for money. Only stipulation was that you had to spend over £30 per person but who can complain for a good 2 course meal for £15 each? The Assistant Manager was extremely chirpy, friendly and helpful (said I would forget her name as I'm really bad with names but think it was Anthea). We would most certainly consider having dinner here again if we were on a day trip to Hunstanton. Oak Bar and hotel lounges seemed underused whilst we were there even though they were all comfortable. We wondered where everyone who was staying at the hotel had gone. Whilst we were there most of the clientele were older and personally I do not feel that this hotel is particularly suited for children, especially if the weather is not good and you are relying on a beach holiday. Might be different if it had a swimming pool which children always like. The beach itself is wonderful and when the tide is out it is vast; the hotel is ideally situated for quick access to the beach. Very interesting watching the wind-surfers but I think I'll pass on that! Short walk to the bus stop to pick up the coast hopper which is a great bus service along the coast. Had a nice 2 night break but unless we knew the weather was looking as it was going to be very good and could leave booking till last minute would probably not stay again; just go for day trips to Hunstanton like we have done in the past. This hotel is presently franchised under the Best Western group but I understand that it will be an independent hotel as from next year.

Only stayed one night but it was great, hotel and rooms were spotless and we were lucky enough to have a sea view, did not eat here we thought it was a bit expensive but the pub next door was good and there are lots of places in hunstanton 10mins up the road

Just home from a lovely couple of nights at Le Strange Arms. We had a very spacious and comfortable room with views over the beach. Everything was very clean, there was plenty of storage, good selection of hot drinks including fruit teas and a very comfortable bed. Lovely breakfast buffet with a plentiful and varied selection. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Wonderful to be able to stroll across the lawn to the beach. We will most certainly return.

Have stayed here 8 times in the last 8 years for family long weekends. Family group of 20-30 people. Great breakfast for the group served in the bar area. Beach is a short walk down a private path past the lifeboat station. Front lawn is great for children's games as well as flying small planes.

This is a four star hotel, and it certainly lived up to it's stars. Friendly staff, big comfortable bed, double shower, large modern TV etc Great location for the sandy beach and coastal walks. The pub next door also belongs to the hotel, with a large sun terrace. Very popular with families. Standard pub food served there. The hotel also has its own restaurant.

20/08/2017

Arrived for a one night stopover and was met by an outstanding view of the sea and beach. This was a short walk across the car park from the hotel. The lady at the check-in desk was friendly and efficient and we were soon directed to our room, second floor with no lift. This didn't bother us but some people might struggle with their luggage. The room and bathroom were very clean, only negatives were that it was too warm and the shower dripped through the night. As we were only stopping for one night we did not feel the need to make a fuss about it though. Restaurant in the hotel served excellent food, evening and breakfast, very tasty and well presented. Decor could do with updating in here and the reception area but that's a minor thing. The waiter was really polite and attentive in the restaurant. However, in the bar, there was no staff member to start with and then when he did arrive, he appeared totally uninterested. A fake smile would have been better than nothing. Check out was again straight forward, with the same lady who checked us in and she wished us a good journey as we left. Overall, a pleasant stay, a couple of things let it down, otherwise would have given the hotel 5/5.

"Exceptional "

Visited this hotel for a one night break, stayed in a sea view suite and the room was just stunning and the views breathtaking. Table allocated for dinner was perfectly sited with views of the sunset. Food and staff exceptional, would highly recommend this establishment.

"Boathouse Stay"

4
12/08/2017

Our family of 4 including our ESS and 5 year old are staying in the Boathouse. There wasn't a lot of info or photographs to establish the room layout prior to booking so it was hard to gauge what to expect?!? The boathouse itself is situated at the side of the hotel in a fairly quiet location. The boathouse is divided into 2 large hotel type rooms on the ground floor and 2 apartments on the first and second floor. We stayed on the ground floor because of our dog. The room itself is adequate for our needs. It's clean and comfortable but very stuffy. The location of the hotel is fab!! We love strolling down to the beach several times a day. The hotel has wonderful views of the beach. We have enjoyed several drinks on the green within the hotel grounds and ate tonight at the restaurant attached to the hotel. The food looked better than it tasted!! My husband did compliant but no one seemed to care which was a shame as we had high hopes. I would definitely recommend visiting the boathouse if you want dog friendly accommodation in a fab location.

"Relaxed "

12/08/2017

Only stayed one night but such a beautiful area, we will definitely be back. Free upgrade to a suite, sea views (through all windows),and a wonderful breakfast kept this short break an A1 choice. The pub attached has a good selection of beers and food, careful though as it does get really busy so tables fill up fast!

"Excellent hotel, poor food."

09/08/2017

Stayed a week at this hotel and the staff were excellent, attentive and friendly. The room was airy and very clean and the hotel position just a short walk to a long sandy beach was perfect. However the restaurant on the only night I went was very poor. Tough overcooked duck and a risotto which arrived as a semi dry mound on a large plate. I did eat for the rest of the time at the sister restaurant The Ancient Mariner. This was pub grub but well cooked and the staff were very professional. One other good thing about this hotel was that it had a large car park and with a Coastal bus running from Kings Lynne to Cromer, there was no need to use the car during my entire stay.

"Great hotel, ideally positioned"

5
08/08/2017

Staff very friendly and helpful. Family room spacious and we had a great view of the sea. Hotel in walking distance of beach and RNLI station. There are three separate areas to eat, the main restaurant is inside the hotel but the bar and Sunset restaurant are both together but you have to walk outside to get to them, would suggest you book as can get busy. We stayed beginning of August and the sunsets over the sea were amazing. There's an old fashioned beach shop for buckets and spades etc, a beach cafe and an arts centre all in close proximity of the hotel. Beach very busy at weekends with locals, holiday makers and kite boarders but a nice atmosphere.

A fine hotel, well located, spacious and with excellent facilities. My room was ideal, a good size (both room and bathroom), very comfortable and with a sea view. The dining room, bar, conservatory and terrace are all agreeable places to relax and refresh. The cooking (breakfast and dinner) is definitely recommended, with the emphasis on quality rather than unnecessary quantity, and the service pleasantly attentive. Any criticisms? The bar would be better with draft ale!

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit and that you received a warm Norfolk welcome. Your comments regarding the ale have been noted; just in case you are not aware, we offer a choice of ales on draught in our adjacent Ancient Mariner Inn. We do hope that you will come back and visit us again soon.

Visited recently with my mother, her companion and my son. Excellent service and catered well for gluten free diet, both for evening meal and breakfast. We all enjoyed our stay and shall certainly return

Sadly I was not staying at this magnificent hotel, but they kindly allowed me to use their WiFi for an important business Webex call. They made me most welcome and cannot have been more helpful. When I had a problem with the WiFi the lady on reception was wonderful, sorting it out with a smile.......... All the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and all I purchased was a pot of coffee, despite being there almost two hours. OUTSTANDING service and I will never stay anywhere else when in that area again, by the way the outlook from the public rooms is magnificent viewing the golf course and the sea. This is a truly first class hotel in a magnificent position, give it a try if you are looking for friendly service in a top quality hotel and staff who are willing to go the extra mile.

"Perfect for our 29th wedding anniversary meal"

Our son treated us to a wonderful meal in the restaurant at the Le Strange Arms Hotel on the 25th of July. We were offered a choice of seating either in the sea view conservatory or the restaurant and we choose the restaurant as the sun was setting and was very bright. The waitress seated us at a beautifully dressed table and gave us the menus and chef's specials for the day. Our drinks order was taken while we perused the menu. My wife choose the Fan of Melon to start whilst I had the Tiger Prawns and Pork Belly. Both were very well presented and were delicious. For mains my wife had the fresh Hake served with Elveden potatoes and a selection of vegetables. I had the Chicken supreme again with Elveden potatoes , served on a bed of crisp greens with pancetta pieces. Again both meals arrived in a timely manner and were of excellent quality. We just about had room for dessert so I had the sticky toffee pudding with a wonderful vanilla ice cream and my wife had the chocolate mousse with red berries served in a brandy snap basket and was to die for. The waitress enquired at suitable times ensuring we were happy with everything which was most welcome and we were happy to reply in the positive. This was our first visit but will certainly not be our last and we won't be waiting another year before we enjoy the wonderful surroundings , service and quality that this restaurant offers. Many thanks to your wonderful staff for making our anniversary so wonderful. Lesley & Simon

"Traditional hotel in beautiful location"

If you are looking for a luxury boutique hotel with en suite wet rooms, then this is not the hotel for you. At the le Strange Arms you get good friendly service from the staff, rooms that are clean and comfortable with reassuringly elderly furniture, and slightly wonky floors (it is an old building after all). The perfect location with lawns running down to the beach is in the more refined Old Hunstanton although the 'New' town with family attractions is about a mile away. Breakfasts in the hotel were very good, although we dined in the attached pub 'The Ancient Mariner Inn' which offers good pub meals and a range of beers including a couple of real ales. A good tip is to get hold of a voucher that gives 50% off food prices when you spend £30. (You can pick up a voucher from the art/antique shop opposite the pub).

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel. As you say we are not a luxury boutique hotel and we do not pretend to be, we pride ourselves in being a traditional beachside hotel with a warm Norfolk welcome. It is lovely to hear that you enjoyed breakfast this is something we pride ourselves on. We hope to welcome you back soon.

The hotel is lovely quaint right near to the sea. The staff are absolutely brilliant. I had a standard double which was adequate size for me on my own. However it was so hot and stuffy in there with only one small window opening....equipped with ( on window ledge) the resident pigeon who stayed there all night after many attempts of trying to get it off. and who also bought a load of cooing friends at 4am ....deep joy. Hence closed window all night....portable fan noise and generator from downstairs, lights on all night outside and noisy other residents....did not sleep a wink. But....i got a full refund which was very decent of the hotel. The restaurant was great ...Food lovely and excellent service....Such a shame about the room.

Stayed here for 3 nights. All the staff were excellent. Breakfasts were very good with fresh local produce. We ate in the restaurant one night and had a very nice meal. Kierron who was on duty looked after us very well. He should be promoted! Would recommend this hotel as it is in a great location right on the beach. There is a good local cafe nearby as well as a pub.

"Great for Golf"

20/07/2017

Driving into the car park you know that you have arrived as you can't go any nearer to the sea. Perfect positioning for a golfing trip. The hotel has a friendly welcome and is a mix of the old and the new as extensions have been added over the years. The room was comfortable with a sea view with all of the facilities that you need including a fan which is essential in warm weather. The pub is nice and busy and has a better feel than the hotel bar which could do with some informal furniture. We ate good breakfasts each day and only 1 dinner in the hotel which was perfect for what we wanted as we dined out elsewhere in the main. The staff are very helpful, friendly and an asset to the hotel. I would definitely return.

12/07/2017

I was part of a group of cyclists who were taking part in a charity cycle ride. We couldn't have asked for anymore from the Hotel. A secured room was found for our cycles over night, which was greatly appreciated by us all. The Rooms were ample sized, with all the amenities we needed, a good sized shower, tea and coffee, TV, and very good wifi. And then breakfast, which was served along with tea and coffee in a nice dining area. Set in a great location, with lovely sitting areas overlooking the grounds and then directly to the sea. Would definitely recommend this Hotel, and would definitely stay again if in the area.

11/07/2017

Excellent room, great sea and beach view, happy and helpful staff. We had a meal in the pub, which was good value, good choice of meals. Next evening we dined in the hotel restaurant , had a very enjoyable meal. The hotel is well placed for a good stroll along the beach or along the cliff tops. Also having great weather made it a perfect weekend. Great to sit outside in the warm evening. We do plan to return again. Note! all they need to do is give the beach/garden room a lick of paint ,at the moment it looks a bit tatty and unloved.

Luckily got a great room despite last minute booking. Overlooked the sea and had a lounge with TV as well as a bedoom (with another TV). Very comfy room. Reasonable prices. Near the sea, so walking down to the beach a mere stroll. Had evening meal in the restaurant which was good. Good choice of hotel and situated so it was easy for us to move on after the stay further round the coast (Not far from RSPB Titchwell)

We had 24 people stay at the hotel with us for the weekend. Having set the date over a year ago we planned the meals, wines & rooms, luckily the team who make everything possible are superb at what they do and we all has a fantastic weekend. The venue is excellent, staff friendly and very welcoming. Chef did us proud and the wines were at the perfect temperature - we could not have been more satisfied as all requirements were catered for, from dog friendly rooms no having diary free diets nothing was an issue. Thank you so much for your careful attention to detail that made everything just superb. We really appreciated the way the weather was brilliant too! See you in September when we return.

The room we were given did not smell very nice and the window would not remain open. The bathroom window did open but we were greeted with piles of pigeon mess and pigeons. Reception did change our room but the receptionist and housekeeper exchanged views which were not complimentary. We also attempted to use the light snacks menu which was available until 9pm as stated in the clients information pack in the bedroom. Went to order at 5.30 and were told these meals finished at 5pm. The receptionist Courtney was very apologetic and photocopied the relevant page to show her manager and we had the meal sent to our room which she did not charge us for. We have stayed at this hotel on many occasions but the attitude of the staff apart from Courtney may mean we will probably not go back.

"Comfortable traditional hotel"

3
24/06/2017

The hotel is in a nice open location a short walk from a very large beach and the famous Hunstanton cliffs. The public rooms, including the dining room, are also large and spacious. The receptionist was friendly. My bedroom was a good size, comfortable and clean, with a king size bed and a nice firm mattress. The bathroom, with a bath, was modern and clean and all the fixtures and fittings worked. My room overlooked the main car park for both the hotel and the attached Ancient Mariner Inn. As the Inn, with its brasserie, seems to be popular with locals, there was a fair amount of disturbing people and traffic noise late into the night. I had dinner in the hotel restaurant. Although the table service was good and the menu choices reasonably varied, the quality of the dishes was disappointing (eg the 'salad' in the Crab Salad' comprised just a few green leaves and overcooked new potatoes; I couldn't taste any lemon in the Lemon Syllabub). At breakfast the next morning on offer was a standard and rather uninteresting range of boxed cereals, fruit yogurt pots etc.. as well as the usual cooked options.

24/06/2017

Great location, comfortable clean rooms. Even a fan was provided which was great as we stayed during a heatwave! Cannot comment on price as I was part of a team staying at the hotel and bill was paid for us which made the visit even better! We didnt eat in the hotel but did use the pub next door which was very nice

21/06/2017

My wife and I have just enjoyed a most pleasant week on half board at the Le Strange and would highly recommend it to anyone with very few proviso's and the food in the main dining room was truly first class with a different menu every night. The only downside for us was the room we were first shown to (Room 114) which was almost devoid of drawer space, though perfectly acceptable otherwise. Luckily the hotel reception people were most helpful and offered us room 221 which was wonderful other than for early morning traffic noise, but as we could only have 221 for six nights rather than the seven we intended to stay, it did sadly mean cutting our holiday short by a day, but other than for that minor snag we could not fault the Le Strange, and do hope to go again.

"Fantastic service"

Wow! Great service from all staff encountered. The room was clean, and quiet. Breakfast was amazing and served by a smiley waitress. My fiance and I will definitely be back. Great attention to detail and such friendly, helpful colleagues. Thank you for such a great stay.

"Half a meal???"

17/06/2017

Came over to enjoy a birthday meal.2 rather disinterested staff in the reception desk. Went and sat where we were told, lunch was served, main course ok, not special, very salty. Asked for dessert menu, only to be told that desserts aren't served at lunch times and maybe one of the pubs down the road might serve a pudding! Really???

"Hotel and bar let down by one extremely rude member of staff"

11/06/2017

This hotel is situated in a very lovely position and has great views. The staff in the hotel were exemplary and our room was well equipped, had a huge comfortable bed and despite being on the road had very little noise. The restaurant has a very limited menu but the attached bar (Ancient Mariners) provides plenty of options. We would likely return here but for the hotel and views rather than the bar.

"Excellent two night stay"

5
10/06/2017

We had a sea view room which was comfortable and clean. The bathroom had a very large shower with a good shower head. Nice touch was the biscuits supplied each day with the complimentary teas and coffee. We had a meal in the restaurant one evening which was delicious. The staff were all very welcoming, nothing too much trouble. Our only problem was with the tv, the picture constantly pixellated. We did report this on 3 occasions but it wasn't fixed during the time we were there. But we don't really go on holiday to watch tv. We would definitely stay again.

"Mini Break"

09/06/2017

Paid extra for a sea view. Twin room was clean & tidy & could watch the sunset, some people kit surfing. The window did appear to leak in the rather wet weather & did report this when we checked out. We did try to eat next door in the Ancient Mariner but not a warm welcome at say the latest so eat elsewhere. You do need a car to do the site seeing here.

I have recently returned from a two night stay. The Brasserie Restaurant service was good, with polite and efficient employees, despite them appearing to be understaffed at busy times. A mention too at this point for the pleasant young man working behind the bar. All meals were excellent, with a comprehensive 3-course selection on the evening menu. My compliments to the chef. The lounge area was great for relaxing, complete with sea views. However the same could not be said of the bedroom. Admittedly the bed was comfortable, with a great en-suite, but the net curtain on the window masked the problem. The brick "balcony", with its unsightly layer of guano, provided a roosting spot for the pigeons whose constant cooing and wing flapping woke me before daybreak. To make matters worse the flat roof and skylight just beyond this point presumably was part of the kitchen, because there were sounds of activity from early morning onwards. If I tried to get some sleep by closing the window the room was stuffy. Turning the air conditioning on meant, yes, more noise!! It would have helped if I'd been offered a rate of £95.00 for both nights for such an inferior room. I would stay again, but only in a room at the front of the hotel. One more thing: having paid in full when booking I would at the very least expect the receptionist to enquire, as I was checking out, that everything had been ok, and not just say "hello, would you like to settle your bill?!" Rather aloof.

"Excellent Location"

Recently stayed at this hotel Room with sea view lovely but many stairs a pain ! Hotel is clean and staff pleasant. Downside is that we thought drinks were quite expensive. Breakfast was not brilliant v expensive at £15 per person. Slow service. Would probably stay again but would go into Hunstanton for breakfast.

My partner booked this hotel as a surprise birthday weekend celebration. The hotel is in an excellent location with coastal views, brilliant sunsets ,plenty of parking and comes complete with a free rabbit show on the green! We booked the" presidential "suite as it was a special occasion and were not disappointed. The room was huge, luxurious and clean...and room service (which we used quite a bit of ..breakfast..ice buckets!) was always polite and efficient. We used the restaurant on the first night..and were so impressed we used it again on the second night! The food was delicious.Over the two nights we had steak, duck, guinea fowl, prawns, ham hock.all perfect..Good selection of wines..and a big thank you to the chef for the surprise desert birthday treat ..much appreciated. The staff at this hotel...receptionist...bar staff.(young guys) restaurant staff are a credit to this hotel..exemplary....special mention to the lady in restaurant fri and sat evenings...made u feel so welcome..first class. We had the best weekend ever thanks to all of you......and yes we will be back

"An enjoyable birthday break"

4
23/05/2017

Had a two night stay with friends to celebrate our wives birthdays. Rooms very comfortable and satisfactory. Excellent TV. First rate breakfast with excellent service ( the waiter remembered on day 2 what we preferred from day 1) One evening meal in the hotel restaurant was most enjoyable. The Sunday evening meal in the ancient Mariner was slightly marred by poor service and many items on the menu not being available leaving us with a rather poor choice. A little staff training on observance is needed. Would we go again? Yes indeed. Not enjoyed breakfast as much in a long time P

"Great family room"

5
19/05/2017

Stayed recently for one night and the first night away in a hotel with my toddler and 9 week old baby. Lounge area was great, through into a bedroom (bed would perhaps have been a little small for 2 people), good ensuite and great bunk bed room. It worked really well for me, being near the lift too. It would be plenty spacious for 2 adults and 2/3 children. Pub next door served good food (big portions!!!!) and staff were very helpful. Didn't book breakfast. Wish I had stayed for a couple more nights, thank you.

"Room 114- noisy"

3
15/05/2017

Just writing this after only 6 hours sleep in that there are pigeons awakening at dawn and you can here them cooing - that is just above the non stop noise of either an extractor for the kitchen that is left on all night or the attached air conditioning unit on the wall. Either way all you can hear in the room is a constant small pitched whirring, followed by pigeons when they wake you up! The room other than that, (main bit for me is good quality sleep), is very big- well laid out, large ensuite with nice facilities. Full size tv in the corner next to the fireplace! There are good drinks offered and biscuits. Hotel situated in a great place- Old Hunstanton- you can walk around the beach huts on the massive beach- goes for miles- really nice -even on a chilly May night. If it was sunny- there are plenty of places to eat outside. Went to the pub next door, rather than eat in the restaurant- it is attached to the hotel and offers a good selection of real ale. I would stay again but not in the room I had & it would have to be away from the extractors..

"Walking weekend"

3
09/05/2017

22 of us stayed here this last weekend on a walking trip. The hotel receptionist was very welcoming and efficiently processed us all into our respective rooms. The room was clean, a little on the small side, but fine for 3 nights, and looked out towards the sea. The breakfast was very good and plentiful, a buffet and also a cooked breakfast available. The dinners were not so good. I am vegetarian and those meals were somewhat limited, chewy pasta, cold cheese and tomato tartlets, the risotto was good however. The meat eaters found big lumps of meat on their plates which were almost indigestible. The accompanying vegetables were over-cooked and cold. No fault could be found with the hotel or the serving staff, but the chef needs a few more lessons in producing a decent meal.

"Two Nights Away"

05/05/2017

Lovely location to stay on our first visit to Old Hunstanton right next to the beach. There was some construction work going on but not over the weekend thankfully. Great parking outside hotel and check in was fine. Really comfortable bed and room was small but well laid out. Bathroom had one of the best shower we have had in a hotel and although the bathroom was very small it was well fitted out. Breakfast was not as good as we expected, quality wise, but plenty of choice and service was good. There are tables and benches outside that face out over the sea which was lovely. We would definitely stay here again due to the location and room and next time we would love a sea view.

"Our favourite hotel in Norfolk by a long way."

4
04/05/2017

It was our first wedding anniversary and I was keen to spend it in our favourite hotel. It is our favourite because the location and quality of accommodation is super. The hotel has a lawn fronting onto the sand dunes with a fabulous sandy beach beyond, beautiful rooms, a pub next door if you fancy a change from their bar or restaurant and great food. We took our two dogs and paid a supplement of £15 each per night. Our room was in the Boat House, which we had not stayed in before. It was a large room, with big bed, sofa, arm chairs and all the expected quality fittings I have come to expect there. The room was clean and laid out well. It was on the ground floor of the house so we could hear people upstairs and didn't have much of a view but we were pleased overall and would book it again despite the price tag. I was disappointed that the shower curtain, in the otherwise great ensuite, made the showering area tiny and inevitably clung to me in the really awful cold and plastic way that they do. We ate in the restaurant the first night, eating perfectly cooked steak - which I would recommend; they gave us a sauce that wasn't on the menu which was a nice touch. The hotel would have got a 5 star rating from me but I felt like the outside areas were a bit untidy and not cleaned around - as though they didn't have staff walking around the seating area and lawns picking up bits and bobs that had been left from the previous days. It just spoilt the impression of a really well kept and clean hotel. They are building another 'boat' house, so the lawn area was cordoned off in part - but there was no-one working when we were there so we were not bothered by the noise. The works were generally tidy and nearly complete. The area of Old Hunstanton is lovely and the craft and gift shop there is definitely worth a visit because it has such a variety of goods and many interesting quality items for sale (and the usual tat that abounds in the seaside shops). I could go on about the snooker room in the cellar at the hotel and the sun set over the sea - but you just have to go there to get the real effect of the place!

"Short Break"

4
03/05/2017

Lovely hotel, service and food at dinner and breakfast was very good. We had a superior double with seaview and was amazed at how spacious it was (room 106). Only one thing to keep in mind is the shower is in the bath so as long as you can climb into a bath (hand rails provided) you will love this room. Couldn't really find any other faults

"Decent quality hotel in a great location"

4
02/05/2017

Stayed here for three nights, using it as a base for exploring the Norfolk coastal region. Checking in and out was very efficient. The room was comfortable, especially the bed which can be such a lottery in so many British hotels. There are plenty of lounge areas to use for relaxation and a slightly utilitarian bar. The views across the beach and the sea are stunning. The dining area is big and the meals good, especially the breakfast. The dining room service was first class. Lovely, friendly and efficient staff. The hotel's location is ideal, just off the main A149 coastal road and fronting on to a wonderful beach. The hotel also runs the adjoining pub, The Ancient Mariner. The village has a number of good pubs and restaurants for those who want to eat out. Highly likely to stay here again if coming to this area.

"Weekend visit"

27/04/2017

My wife and I stayed overnight after having a day at Sandringham. We had not stayed here for a number of years, and were very pleased with how the hotel had been updated. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. we did not have dinner in the restaurant that evening, but judging by how busy it was when we walked by, it should be okay. Breakfast was the usual choices of full English etc... I asked for poached eggs instead of fired, no problem was the answer, they duly arrived well cooked. The location is great if you want to explore the North Norfolk coast, or stay local. We will be going back later this year.

"Ideal weekend destination"

4
24/04/2017

Stayed one night here, only booking the day before. Ours one of the last rooms available so expected it to be small and hidden away in an attic! In reality it was clean, spacious and bright, with an excellent shower. Although reception hadn't transferred our dinner booking to the dining room, and although a large party arrived shortly after us, the lady looking after us remained unflappable and we were served an excellent meal with little delay. Lovely weather on the Sunday meant we could take tea on the terrace overlooking the sea. Staff were all polite & efficient, would certainly return.

"GREAT NIGHT AWAY."

5
23/04/2017

Visited and stayed on a Saturday evening whilst en-route through Norfolk. Wonderful views over Hunstanton beach and the Wash from the hotel. Nicely furnished and equipped room, spotlessly clean. After a trip to the Mariners pub just around the corner returned to the hotel's bar and restaurant for an evening meal and further drinks in comfortable surroundings. Special shout-out goes to Jodie who couldn't have been more helpful in the bar and restaurant. Would certainly return and in my opinion good value for the standard of accommodation and quality of food.

"Lovely weekend away"

Lovely 3 course meal, staff very attentive, looking out over the sea couldn't ask for more and a Mothering Sunday gift as well beautiful. The menu had 6 starter choices, 6 main meal choices and 6 sweet choices plus tea or coffee

10/04/2017

Just got back from a 2 night stay at this lovely hotel. We had a seaview room with a large shower room ensuite. The restaurant here is well worth a visit and thankyou Kim for looking after us, food and menu very good, I have never felt more relaxed in my life and we really needed to. . All the staff are very helpful and polite so if you need a night away to unwind this is the place to be. We will defiantly return. The beach and café are just a few yards away. There is also a pub which the hotel own but we didn't get to eat there as they were fully booked. (which I didn't mind at all as the restaurant is so good)

"Sunny Relaxing Spring Weekend WITH DOG"

4
08/04/2017

This is a Hotel we love for short breaks in the off-season with our Yellow Labrador. During recent stays we have been assigned to The Boathouse which is so perfectly dog-friendly and idyllic. Very close to "The Ancient Mariner" Pub which is linked with the Hotel, and with immediate access to the front lawn and nearby sand dunes. Full English breakfast is sufficient for most of the day. 3-Course Evening Meal is good value and locally sourced. Staff are friendly and helpful, although check room is cleaned when convenient to yourself. The wide (at low tide) beach is sandy and stretches for miles, with the Lincolnshire coast the other side of The Wash within sight on a clear day. It is close to the Norfolk marshes and wildlife, and other places of interest such as Sandringham, Nelson's haunts, and picturesque villages on the coast and inland. Loads of opportunities for walking too.

"Comfortable"

5
06/04/2017

Expensive but comfortable airy and very clean. Any disabled person must inform reception before arrival as the lift is only available to the first floor. There are a few sitting areas as well as a bar lounge. Restaurant and next door is the Mariners for a bar meal and drink. Views of the wash from many windows and next door to a golf course. Plenty of parking and free to guests. Iron and ironing board in the rooms for those whose clothes need refreshed. They also have a laundry service. Reception staff friendly and informative. Any room problems were dealt with quickly. The bathroom compact with over the bath shower. Bath is a bit high, I struggled to get in as I have knee replacements. Soap, shower and shampoo supplied daily as well as fluffy towels. Good mix of complimentary drinks and a decent supply of milk. All in all a very comfortable stay.

"Old school in Old Hunstanton"

5
03/04/2017

This hotel is superbly situated almost on the beach at Old Hunstanton, with wonderful sea views. It is very reminiscent of hotels in the 50s and 60s but in the best possible way: restaurant with clean linen on the tables, pleasant staff, spacious and comfortable lounges and sun room. We will certainly return.

We stayed overnight whilst on a coach tour. Our room was spacious, well appointed and the bed was very comfortable! The staff were very pleasant, the food good and the public rooms beautifully furnished and comfortable. The whole place was spotlessly clean. We could not have asked for more, would definitely stay again!

"A wonderful hotel"

The staff here are very friendly, efficient and welcoming. The hotel is extremely comfortable, the food is delicious and is situated just a stone's throw from the beach. I highly recommend it, but since it is always very popular you will need to book some time in advance to avoid disappointment.

"Like something out of an Agatha Christie Novel"

Like something out of an Agatha Christie Novel the Le Strange Arms Hotel, rambles around over various floors up and down stairs and in and out of corridors. Some rooms have great views some are small and claustrophobic. The Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, there is very very limited e-mail service and just about no cell phone reception, so just enjoy the view and walks along one of the finest beaches in Norfolk. Most of the guest that stay here are early to bed and early to rise, Ideal for golfers and bird watchers. It also seems that the hotel bar closes, whenever one is thirsty. Came for a reunion, the dinner menu was interesting, and the next day's breakfast ok. Had lunch and a pint in pub next door. TIP: Good for Honeymooners and retirees

"Anniversary treat"

18/11/2016

We went to this hotel for a one night stay to celebrate our anniversary. The actual hotel is great, clean, well laid out, great garden leading down to a the wonderful Old Hunstanton beach. The staff are friendly helpful and polite. The lounge is comfortable with a large open fire makes you feel relaxed and warm on a cold November day. Our room had a sea view, which was a full sea view as all the rooms on the North side of the hotel will have, no round the corner, or standing on tip toe type sea views. The room was clean, well laid out and the bed very comfortable with clean sheets and pillow cases. The Food, perhaps the hotel gave a better impression, but the food did not live up to the hotel. It was good but basic, well presented but uninspired. The breakfast was also not great. The buffet was well stocked and had we just wanted a buffet breakfast would have been acceptable. The cooked breakfast was, well adequate. Overall a very pleasant stay in a lovely part of north Norfolk.

What a great hotel, comfortable bedrooms, could have done with separate shower though. Great scenery from the Hotel, no need to leave to view..plenty of walks just across the car park to the beach..food excellent & staff friendly & helpful..hope I will be able to visit again

13/11/2016

the overall stay was lovely but only due to the great staff and cleanliness of hotel and location. The food really let it down not very good dinner or breakfast! quality of food was not very edible and for the price would expect ala carte as advertised on web site and menu.

My wife and i stayed for a long weekend as part of a birding holiday in norfolk. Very comfortable hotel, decor excellent, breakfasts, packed lunches and dinner could not be faulted. Staff most helpful. An easy 5* rating. See room comments below, moving between the main hotel (bar & meals ) and our room in the boathouse was a bit harsh in bad November weather. in finer warmer weather the boathouse would have come into its own.

"An Excellent Hotel"

04/11/2016

My wife and I recently had a five night stay at this hotel and we had a wonderful holiday. We had a sea view suite which was very spacious, clean and well maintained. All the staff were very helpful and looked very smart in their uniforms. All our food was excellent with a choice of menus and locations to eat within the hotel complex. We would like to thank everyone for making our holiday so wonderful and have booked to return in March next year.

We recently had the pleasure of staying at yet another wonderful Best Western Hotel, this time Le Strange in Old Hunstanton. From turning the corner into the car park and viewing the breath taking views, to the time we left we had a fantastic break. We had a wonderful sea view room, which was one of the best we have experienced, capturing the famous sweeping, golden sands of the North Norfolk Coastline. What struck us from arrival to departure and at every stage in between, was the friendliness of the Hotel team - they were cheerful at all times and nothing was to much trouble, clearly something that came natural to them and a credit to the Hotel management/Best Western ethos. We will certainly be returning and would recommend the Hotel to people of all ages.

Pleasant hotel overlooking the beach and the sea. Some rooms are better than others, once they have finished all the room updates the whole place will be much better. Nice meals and a superb Sunday lunch.

"Standards have fallen"

31/10/2016

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. Last year we could find no fault, in fact recommended it to various friends. This year was totally different. The standard and quality of the breakfasts was very poor, overcooked or undercooked poor quality tasting items. Dinner in the adjoining Ancient Mariner restaurant was just as disappointing. Staff seemed miserable, not interested in guests, no one asked if meals were ok. We didn't enjoy meal. Didn't complain as don't feel it is the restaurants staffs faults, or chefs fault, it is the poor quality of the food that is delivered. We were happy with our room, but overheard several other unhappy guests complaining about their rooms and questioning how many stars the hotel had, We were planning to return next year, but have decided there are far better hotels around, with better places to eat.

Lovely hotel but a bit outside Hunstanton. Staff very nice. large room with sea view. Ate in Mariners Inn which had a good friendly atmosphere. handy for Sandringham. Lots of seating areas to view the sunset

28/10/2016

Superb location in Old Hunstanton with sea views and easy access to the beach for long walks. Comfortable bedrooms, cosy lounge with free papers to read and helpful and friendly staff. Our "deal" included dinner on the first night which was excellent.

"A great place to stay"

25/10/2016

We have previously had a motor home so this was our first hotel stay in years, we were very impressed with both the room we had and the service given by very friendly staff and would recommend this hotel and the adjoining pub to anyone visiting this part of Norfolk.

"Nice but not the sea view I'd requested"

3
20/10/2016

Nice location, poor reception area tucked away under the stairs. Organised as a birthday treat for my husband. I requested a sea view but we were given a twin room at the back, very disappointing as the view of the sea is the main reason to stay here. Not cheap either £135 a night so I cannot recommend as they did not fulfil my wishes. The room did have a nice walk in shower ensuite that looked like it has been installed recently. Breakfast was good, freshly cooked and tasty, although the service was not great, tables were not cleared so guests had to wait to be seated. It seems as if there were not enough staff to cope with the number of guests. the hotel was fully booked which surprised me for mid week in October. I would only stay again if we got a sea view we had asked for!! Especially as sea view rooms cost the same or less than I paid according to their website. I do hate feeling ripped off.

"The breakfasts have gone downhill and so has the service!"

18/10/2016

We have stayed here many times before and we were looking forward to a few days away with our family. We have always said the breakfast here set you up for the day. However on our first morning we were very disappointed. We were shown to our table, which was very nice and in the conservatory, by a waitress who evidently was not happy in her job! Straightaway she came and asked if we wanted tea or coffee and toast but we hadn't had time to look at the menu and she was asking what we wanted for breakfast!! We all ordered the full house breakfast, not realising it wasn't the same as what it had been on previous occasions. When the meals came we were very disappointed not only in the size of the portions (! sausage, 1 egg (only just cooked!) , 1 tomato (partly cooked) 2 rashers of bacon ( very lightly done). We asked if there were any hash browns or beans and she said they were extra and we would have to wait 10 minutes for them to be cooked if wanted those. I did say I didn't get chance to look at the menu before she took it away. Anyway we had early finished eating the bits that we could when she bought a plate with 4 hash browns on it and a bowl with beans in. When we left she said "make sure you ordered what you want all at the same time tomorrow". Faulty Towers has nothing on this place! However on the second morning that particular waitress wasn't on and it was all different again, the atmosphere was totally different - the waitresses were happy and pleasant and couldn't do enough for us. As for the rooms, one of our rooms was a bit cool as the window didn't shut and the other was red hot as the window wouldn't stay open and we think that although the radiators weren't on, the pipes ran through it to other parts of the hotel keeping it hot. The rooms themselves were looking a bit tired, the carpets could with cleaning but otherwise well appointed with views over to the beach and sea beyond. Having said all that we will go back, just hope we don't get the same waitress but even so we know now what is on the menu.

"Poor food"

16/10/2016

I was very disappointed with the food. You didn't get enough to feed a child. Melon starters 2 slices faned1 slice of carrot, 3 green beans 1folder of broccoli the bed was very fatty thin slices and very raw all very pretty but not at all filling ask for butter for cheese and biscuits they didn't bring any.staff not pleasant. Very slow service waited 45 mins for dessert to be brought.best western. I would like to see worest Weston.

"Good location and overall really relaxing ...but room to improve"

4
15/10/2016

I have often visited the pub (Ancient Mariner bar - that will be a separate review), but never stayed so I treated myself. The hotel is a modernised old house right on the beach with good sea views. It is tastefully modernised and my single room was extremely well appointed and clean. Breakfast is good and plenty of choice? Downside? the hotel is used for functions and as I write this in my hotel room on the second floor there appears to be an overspill (smokers?) either staff or function guests shouting and being generally noisy, detracting form the otherwise peaceful environment. I don't mind people enjoying themselves but not if it affects others. Not sure if I'll come back now...

"AMAZING VIEWS"

4
13/10/2016

We visited this old style Hotel again this year for a long week-end and were allocated a sea view room in the newest part of the Hotel. The room was lovely, but the Bathroom was excellent. Large walk in shower and lots of space to move around within the Bathroom. The room was more than adequate but possibly a chair too many as it was difficult to watch the television which was on the dressing table because of chairs. Th Hotel boast two lovely conservatories at the front of the Hotel. One for breakfast and the other for sitting around and relaxing. Just what the Doctor ordered. The views from the front are great and the fact that it is right on the beach overlooking the beach huts and sand dunes makes it a wonderful place to spend a few nights.

"Superb"

30/09/2016

Perhaps my wife and I are just easy to please, but I would rate a recent 3 day stay as excellent in all aspects. The lunches and dinners were, if anything, better than previously, and the service was first-rate. Very accommodating in terms of going the extra mile (Matthew and your female colleague on reception - particularly helpful, and went out of their way to re-route us via GPS to avoid horrendous accident on A14). All other staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome as well, and room clearance, plus decoration was first-classl. And it worked out cheaper than a cruise! I cannot believe that the reviews opposite relate to the same hotel and would recommend anyone who is now dithering as to whether to holiday there or not, to try it - you will be pleasantly surprised.

"Super location but hotel disappointing"

22/09/2016

We have stayed numerous times at this hotel but had not been recently, so really looked forward to returning for a break. We booked a dog room and were told they were now located in the separate block - we couldn't have been more disappointed. The room was on the ground floor, extremely dark and cold, it smelt very damp, and the carpets and soft furnishings were tatty and stained, Nothing felt clean or inviting and we really felt like second class guests because we had a dog! Am not sure we would risk booking to stay here again even without the dog.

"Disappointed"

21/09/2016

Having drove 2 hour's through Friday evening peak time traffic,we arrived at a wind swept Hunstanton (Ie strange hotel). We had been to Hunstanton on many occasions over the past 12 years and this was always a place that we had wanted to stay.We found the receptionist who promptly gave us our room keys, walking us out of the main doors into the dark stormy night pointing through the darkness to an outline of a building about 200 yards away "that's your room ,over there" (The boathouse),we battled our way against the wind to a completely unlit building,i had a torch on my key ring so after about 10 minutes we were able to find a door that matched our key, after trying the key for another 15 minutes we were able to enter the building ,we then spent another 15 minutes trying to get into our room , I'd had enough and decided to go back to reception,as you can imagine I wasn't to happy as we had booked a table for 8.15pm and it was almost 8.00pm,i approached the receptionist who could tell I wasn't to pleased and offered us the last room available in the hotel,so I rushed back through the storm to inform my wife and collect our bags.W e managed to get into our second room which was small ,drab and in need of some major decoration. We rushed out where the adjacent pub supplied us with an excellent meal.Back to the room and after 10 mins we were still trying to get in,this timely wife insisted to go to reception, having told of the ongoing problems we'd had she informed my wife that I must have been deactivating the keys with with my mobile phone (why hadn't we been told earlier in the evening)! However she activated the key and we were in.After 15 minutes we both became hot as the room was air less,i looked at opening the window,it was bolted shut and no chance of much needed air, back down to reception, and having explained our problem the only solution was to try our original room where the window opened.Down to breakfast,we decided not to take our mobile phones as we didn't want to be locked out, however walking back to the room we were again locked out, this time the receptionist couldn't answer the reason why our key had been deactivated. We were not on our own ,other couples had similar problems with keys.I wasn't very impressed with this hotel, apart from the obvious key problem,i don't consider it good service when you are asked to fumble in the dark in a strange unlit building, there should be someone available to guide you to your rooms! Also had ordered a morning paper but had to walk through the rain and collect it from reception (where's the service). This hotel is in a good location but I have had better rooms in local b&b's,this is a pricey stay with very little value for money.I haven't felt strongly before to criticise about hotels etc but this could not be ignored!

"Stunning location Otherwise disappointing"

21/09/2016

We come here for the location, right on the beach. The food has never been excellent but previously breakfast has been. This time it was frankly sloppy. Packet kipper fillets in four star hotel? A sausage that was actually raw inside. Complaint only brought grumpy and silly excuses. The hotel advertises itself as dog friendly but it is not. They allow dogs only in two sub standard rooms in the boathouse annexe and they won't even allow them in the bar. The hotel seems to care mostly about big parties and weddings. Individual guests are not very well treated. We will go again but only for the location.

"Lovely setting and very comfortable"

18/09/2016

We arrived on a fine autumn day after booking last minute on line. From our first contact at reception to the coffee we had in the lounge after a delicious dinner, our whole experience was first class. The Chef's recommendations at dinner were perfect, the salmon perfectly cooked as were the vegetables. We ended the meal with coffee and tasty chocolates in the lounge, a nice touch. Only one small down side, the shower had inconsistent temperature control and occasionally it was too hot then too cold!

"Lovely setting"

17/09/2016

Staff at this hotel were all lovely kind, caring and thoughtful. Thought it wasn't quite value for money. Stayed 3 nights very clean with nice bedding and towels. One room had air con and other one didn't so was stifling. Restaurant food varied a little for dinner. Breakfasts were good quality. Hotel could do with a shuttle bus service as many elderly people some without cars and couldn't walk easily to bus stop. Would stay again though.

"Nice hotel, shame about the dog room"

4
14/09/2016

We have visited the Le Strange as guests on two previous occasions, and have just returned from a third. We have always liked the quality of the restaurant, the courtesy and professional service of the staff, and it's great location. This impressive English country hotel is just a few yards from a really nice beach. We also like the fact that this hotel is dog friendly. Previously, we have stayed in the set aside dog owners room in the main Hotel. Dogs have now been moved, however, to the boat house. This is a separate three floor building which is just past the adjacent pub. The two dog friendly rooms are on the lower level. Good points: These rooms are nice and large, with a well set up bathroom and adequate storage. The rooms are quiet and have their own small patio area with table and 2 chairs. Now the not so good stuff! We paid an extra £15 per night to have our Westie with us. But it has to be said, the soft furnishings, carpet and mattress all seemed to have seen their best service elsewhere. The armchairs were a bit threadbare, the carpet was a rather grubby mustard colour and the mattress was decidedly lumpy with a dip in the middle. My wife also had to ask for the cobwebs etc to be swept away from around the outside door. The room was also rather dark, as it is effectively below ground level. These niggles were thrown into sharper focus by the good quality seen in the rest of the Hotel. As is so often the case with dog owners, we felt we were paying more, but getting less. We understand that other guests don't always want to be cheek by jowl with dogs and their owners. But by the same token, a four star hotel shouldn't be offering dog owners 2 1/2 star accommodation.

"Kind and caring staff!"

08/09/2016

My husband and I had the twin sea view room and our Granddaughter and partner had the double sea view room. My husband and I are elderly, disabled and I have had a serious illness! I was unwell during our stay and the staff were so concerned and very caring. This was so helpful and I would love to be able to return again at a later date!

03/09/2016

Excellent hotel in stunning location - can't be bettered. We've now been back 6 times to this hotel which I think underlines how good it really is. In fact since I started giving these reviews for the hotel it has become harder to book the dates we want! Very popular.

"What you really need to know about this hotels"

3
02/09/2016

The hotel has a great location but 4 nights with dinner bed and breakfast was not ideal. The meals were nothing to write home about, and if you are a vegetarian, little choice. Some of the staff are delightful; others put the fear of God into you should you need something at the table sooner than she thought normal. Service can be very slow. Probably the worst thing about the meals was the absurd 'supplementary' charge should you deign to order fish at breakfast. No matter if you had nothing else cooked. Similarly, although the a la carte dinner menu included ice cream, if you wanted one scoop and not 3 for £6, you had to tell them that it was ridiculous to be charged £6 for one scoop, and why couldn't you order one scoop of ice cream instead of their 'set' desserts? The hotel mere,y needs to apply some common sense to the rules- which they did on pointing it out! The rooms with the sea views are glorious. The ones at the back a bit stuffy- hard to get a breeze through. The location of the hotel and the downstairs sitting rooms are the best thing about the hotel.

31/08/2016

Stayed here for 2 nights at the bank holiday weekend with the family to celebrate our anniversary. We was pre warned that there might be a wedding party but our room would not be effected by any noise. As it wasn't very good weather we sat in the conservatory but was joined by the guests of the wedding party after the ceremony, we felt a bit awkward as we felt we shouldn't be there but didn't had no where else to go. I think the hotel should have saved a part of the hotel where guests could relax and not be intwined in a strangers wedding. Noise from the wedding actually wasn't too bad apart from the occasional gathering of drunken smokers outside in the evening. The hotel food lacked substance on the breakfast and the Roast dinner. All food was on a small scale, trying to be a la carte but just didn't need to be when you just want an old fashioned roast or fry up. The restaurant next door does great food!

"Dinner ok "

31/08/2016

We had booked in to the main hotel brassiere where we where taken to a table to just have the menus dumped down so I assumed that's where we were sitting, no mention of soup of the day or anything else we then sat there for a while before our order was taken when we asked what the soup was the waiter was clueless, we then ordered our food and as the waiter went to leave I asked if we could please order drinks to which he replied um ok that's fine what do you want !! We didn't wait long between meals. My lamb was not rack it was 2 cutlets which were tiny with a jus which was more like watery gravy I was not impressed at all. My brownie also contained nuts which it did not state on menu so could not eat that as dislike nuts. Our bill was brought over to our table by a girl while we where eating our dessert couldn't Believe it, all in all poor food and service staff need more training!!!!!!

"Overnight anniversary stay"

5
27/08/2016

My husband & I booked a last minute overnight stay to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary, we'd booked a sea view double & on checking in received a lovely upgrade to a sea view suite - the hotel were hosting a wedding & I'd received a letter the day before to state we may experience noise until approx 12.30am, so we'd partly been upgraded to avoid noise in the newer building which would host the wedding party & also as an anniversary treat. Check in was friendly & swift, our room wasn't quite ready which was a slight disappointment but we took a stroll along the beach & were very pleased with our room once we were in! Lovely living room area with desk, TV & chairs with a bay type window & seaview, good bedroom area with giant bed & further seaview window & respectable bathroom with decent sized bath & over bath shower with a nice tray of complimentary toiletries. We ate in the adjacent ancient mariner inn in the evening which was very pleasant and enjoyed our breakfast in the hotel the following morning - hot selection cooked to order & better than expected quality with friendly staff. All in all a surprisingly good stay - Hunstanton is quite a local regular place we visit so I wasn't expecting quite such a lovely stay, would certainly do it again.

"Beautiful hotel with excellent sea views and access"

27/08/2016

I stopped over for a night with my father, we shared a comfortable well sized twin room. The room was very clean. The bathroom appeared to have been recently refurbished. The hotel is located by the seafront. An excellent location.

"It's OK but the view is amazing! "

26/08/2016

Tired and old fashioned decor. Clean room, very friendly staff at reception who was happy to upgrade all three of our rooms at no extra cost due to a wedding taking place at the time of our stay. Breakfast is overpriced for what it is, cheap bacon, no fresh fruit. One of the waiters looked a bit scruffy but was polite. Room service was quick, discreet and eff. Overall good stay and will return as it's good value for money and you must visit for that view!

"two day stay"

"Not good enough"

19/08/2016

I booked here as the pics look beautiful of the area, the area is beautiful. I am a Diamond Best Western member, I used to use them all the time for work, the reward scheme is now worthless, I decided to start using it for personal breaks away too as they said if you spent 30 nights away each year they would make you diamond for life, this would have been great with perks such as: Free room upgrade free paper welcome gift early check in late checkout discounts just as I was due to qualify they introduced a new tier, they said you now get a welcome gift and you still get upgrades. The day we arrived here, we didnt get a welcome gift, we didnt get an early check in or late checkout and I wouldnt want to, it was a disgusting room, (I am well aware that the hotel can now respond without my being able to counter what they say, so I will also upload photos of the state of the tired room and revolting bathroom with missing tiles, missing skirting board and mould marks) What I will thank them for is the early wake up call from the bin collection across the street from the bottle bank, I told them it was an anniversary break. They also told me they had no room upgrades but on going onto the BW website I found there to be rooms available, (when confronted, they told me these were twin upgrades), if true, then be careful as the website was allowing me to go right through and book a range of rooms. The outside of the hotel is lovely, it does lead straight onto the beach and is a nice 20 minutes walk into New Hunstanton and the promenade. The beach is beautiful. The pub next door has a nice outside eating area but the food is overpriced and there are far better places to eat nearby. I'd recommend Fishers of Hunstanton, although watch your bill they overcharged on two items on our bill, by 9GBP.

"Wedding venue"

5
14/08/2016

Our son was married here last week and we cannot praise the team at the Le Strange highly enough. From start to finish the service was exemplary, the organisation slick, the food first class. We stayed for two nights despite being local and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our room was spotless and well equipped with a stunning sea view. On the day of the wedding Tanya and her team went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure this was a perfect day. Every member of staff was excellent but special mention must go not only to Tanya but to Ryan, for his unfailing sense of humour and courtesy and to Carla for her lovely easy going help in the evening. We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel as a holiday/short break/restaurant destination and without doubt as a wedding venue. Sincere thanks to all concerned - you are a credit to the hotel.

"Fantastic location but food portions not great!"

4
14/08/2016

On arrival we were met with a car park that was completely full. They need someone to monitor it as people use the car park for the beach. Place was clean and tidy, lady on reception was friendly and welcoming. Young lad running the bar (Kieran) was fantastic and did an amazing job considering he was on his own. He's an asset to the hotel. The bed in the room was huge and very comfortable, good size room but bathroom needs updating. This place has fantastic wifi which is much needed as there is no phone signal. Food portions in the hotel are on the economical side. (Very small portions) The views are stunning and if you head out the front of the hotel during the evening you will see hundreds of rabbits running round on the massive lawn area. Drinks are a bit pricey but you expect this with a hotel with such great views. £5 small glass of wine, £3 very small latte, £1.80 for a small bottle of Coke. We would definitely go again.

"Sunday lunch"

4
14/08/2016

My friend & I visited this pub on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. I is situated in old Hunstanton and offers a hotel next to the pub. Sunday lunch was good and we chose to eat outside to benefit from the sunshine. It gets very busy so would recommend that you get there early. Afterwards we went for a walk along the beach which is glorious.

"Fab Location."

09/08/2016

Just arrived back from a three night break at this hotel. Having stayed many times over the years in the past,we decided to go again, little had changed to the hotel, other than some areas had been redecorated. Breakfast was o.k,not the best breakfast we have had,and there was a considerable extra charge if you wanted smoked haddock and poached egg or kippers!! As the cost of breakfast is £15 surely that should include all that's offered on menu? Drinks in hotel bar very expensive and also very meagre!! My husband ordered a Jameson's whiskey, when it was measured out it was measured in what can only be described as a cap full,(it barely covered the bottom of the glass)!! So be ware!! There was a wedding on whilst we were there, and our room was right above where the evening disco was,the noise level was horrendous,we rang down to reception and luckily they had a room which we were able to move to overnight,it was a hastle having to move once we had gone to bed,but at least we were able to sleep. We were told that they had informed us of the forthcoming wedding via email, but sadly we didn't receive. My advice would be to ask if there are any weddings taking place before you book!! All in all had nice stay and would recommend this hotel for the prime position as it is right opposite the beach.

"Diamond Wedding Celebration"

4
08/08/2016

We were invited to join family friends celebrating their Diamond Wedding. Check in was efficient, but very impersonal - not particularly welcoming. Our room with a king sized bed, was spacious enough, although there was only one easy chair and an upright chair. The bathroom was compact, but the shower was excellent. The lounge was very comfortable, and the grounds well provided with tables and umbrellas with wonderful sea vistas. The dining room was well proportioned with plenty of seating in a verandah looking out over the lawns and out to sea. The hotel made no attempt to mark the diamond wedding. The food was very good, but the vegetarian option was very limited. Breakfast was excellent, with the cooked option made to order. We thought it was quite expensive even though it was peak season.

"Special break"

5
06/08/2016

Decided to take our elderly parents away for a special break as they love Norfolk we thought we'd book this hotel. The rooms were very comfortable although with the warm weather it would have been good to be able to open a window. A fan was provided though. The hotel itself was in a great location with views over the beach and the sea. There is a pub/restaurant attached which has an outdoor terraced area. We used the hotel restaurant as we wanted a special meal with our parents. The service and quality of food was great. We also had breakfast and this was good with an excellent range of breakfast food items. In summary a great hotel for a special treat, great for a romantic getaway or as a base for exploring Norfolk.

"Very comfortable hotel in a fantastic spot and hope to return. Would just eat elsewhere"

We arrived as a family party of six (three couples) for a family celebration, staying for two nights. The rooms were very roomy and well-equipped. The first evening we were able to walk down to the beach which was really easy access from the hotel. This was followed by a lovely meal in the adjoining Ancient Mariner Inn. A tip would be to look at their website before going (we didn't) to see if there are any dining vouchers you can use. We could have had two meals for the price of one if had we realised beforehand. A comfortable bed ensured a good night's sleep and we went down to a hearty breakfast. There is a lounge to relax in and watch the world go by and a lawn with plenty of seating where you can look out to sea, The downside to this break was the evening meal in the Oak Room restaurant. Not a cheap menu, we were expecting something really special. As a vegetarian, my heart sinks when I see the usual and unoriginal mushroom risotto and this was the only vegetarian option on the specials menu. Not only that, it was unavailable! There also was not a vegetarian starter option on the specials. On the standard menu, there were just two vegetarian main course options which were both pasta (why do some places never offer vegetables to vegetarians?!!!) The one I chose was woefully inadequate. About a dozen dry pasta parcels with very little taste. If it hadn't have been a celebration meal, I would have made a comment then and there. None of the desserts had any indication whether they were suitable for vegetarians. Everyone else in the party had the roast dinners which looked very artistic but not very balanced - lashings of meat with very little vegetables (one small carrot for example). What did seem a little odd was that all the while we were in the restaurant, there was no-one else eating there. Why then was our long table squashed into the corner so the waiters couldn't actually get behind our diners along one side to serve us?! Overall though it was a great short break. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Special mention to Ryan and Andy who engaged with us and carried out their duties with dedication.

"Lunch at Oak Bar"

03/08/2016

My wife and I called into the Oak Bar around 2-pm needing something light to eat. We chose the seafood sharing plate which had a variety of cold seafoods. It tasted amazing and well satisfied our small hunger. We also had a pot of tea, which - even though it was tea bag - it was one of the best 'cups' for a long while. The service was attentive and very friendly. A great spot for a quick bite.

"Clean and cosy"

03/08/2016

Great couple of nights at le strange. Really clean room - on arrival we were given a suite, perfect as we us our 22month old with us. Unfortunately they had run out of spare roller beds so we all bunker together. The room was lovely - really big and very clean. Breakfast was good - friendly staff and good food. The only thing I would say it that it boosts a children's play area - it is two spring toys and a bench shaped like a pirate ship!!! Not exactly entertaining for the littlens. However, there is a big lawn to run around on and the beach is literally a stroll away. Will return.

"Perfect seaside location"

03/08/2016

We stayed here for a short break and enjoyed a proper English seaside holiday with lovely sunny weather. The hotel overlooks a long lawn with garden tables, chairs and benches, which leads straight to the sand dunes and beach. The Ancient Mariner pub, which has the same owners, adjoins the hotel and serves food and drinks outside. However, even when busy, it seemed very relaxing to sit in the garden and look at the seaview. The hotel itself had everything we needed. Our room was spacious with dual aspect windows, including a lovely seaview. It was nicely furnished and had a spotless modern bathroom. There were ample lounge areas in the hotel. Food and drinks were served in a cafe/bar and also the main restaurant which had a nice conservatory area. Breakfast was good and there was a good choice of menu at dinner at a reasonable price. Staff were friendly and helpful. We did have a couple of small problems, one regarding the room on arrival and another regarding a long wait at dinner for the main course followed by undercooked fish, but both were dealt with well by the staff involved and would not deter us from a return visit. In fact I fully intend to re-visit whenever I can get away for a seaside holiday.

lovely hotel if you want to avoid B&B land. fab breakfast, delightful staff and lovely clean rooms. will stay there every time from now on. only 10 min walk from the main attractions and lovely and quiet in the evenings.

"A good overnight"

5
29/07/2016

We had an overnight room/dinner/breakfast deal. The hotel is modest and pleasant, the style and quality of decor etc being a tad outdated and a tiny bit tired which, in this case added charm, especially taking account of the location ( unassuming and charming) We arrived early and had lunch in the bar-toasted sandwiches and disappointing on quality and price. However the room was very clean if small(that being said we had one near the lift for mobility reasons-likewise a walk in shower: That showed a helpful room assignment. The small ensuite included a fabulous shower-largish stall, big door and excellent shower fitting. Dinner was fine- lovely food and excellent service and breakfast also a very good standard. All told a good place.

"One night in Hunstanton at Le Strange Hotel"

5
25/07/2016

We have just returned from a night at the Best Western Le Strange Hotel in Old Hunstanton. We stayed in a sea-view room (Room 121) which had a recently refurbished bathroom with a large walk-in shower. When I could not turn the temperature down on the shower it was dealt with quickly and efficiently- it was me not the shower! It was a hot night but there was a very welcome fan in the room. We ate in the pub garden right next door and had a very good meal with a fabulous view of the sea and the sun going down - beautiful. A walk on the beach later, accessed from the end of the garden, reminded us of Cape Cod it was so lovely. It was the first weekend of the school holidays but we had no trouble parking as the attendant from the adjacent car park just moved the cones for us. Hunstanton beach was packed and there were hundreds of people and some noise from jet skis but, just around the corner, is the beautiful Old Hunstanton beach with a cafe and toilets as well as the Lifeboat station. We caught the Coast Hopper bus from opposite the Post Office in Old Hunstanton and got off just past the turn to the Lifeboat Inn in Thornham and did a superb 4 mile walk back along the coastal path to the hotel. The last half mile or so is along the beach which has many shells and seabirds on the sandbanks. A perfect wedding anniversay weekend!

"Nice hotel in lovely location"

14/07/2016

My wife & I spent one night in this hotel and we were delighted with overall standard of the hotel. Reception staff were friendly and courteous - they went out of their to assist us. Our bedroom had recently been refurbished and everything in the room was of the highest standard.

"5 star for location and facilities"

3
14/07/2016

I want to focus on how special this place is in terms of location. Its in the quiet Old Hunstanton only a couple of minutes drive from busy Hunstanton should you need to get to a cashpoint or to a convenience store. The hotel is situated on the same coastal road that offers an abundance of things to do within close proximity i.e nature reserves, restaurants etc. The setting of the hotel is perfect, with a landscape garden in the front where you can sit down inside and out and watch the seaviews. Beyond the garden and 2mins walk away is the Old Hunstanton beach. You walk down a little alleyway passed the RNLI Lifeboat house and next to the beach cafe, onto the gorgeous beach. You can walk, windsurf or kite surf which are all great activities. As for the bedroom, we stayed in Room 107 and it was luxurious only because we had two great big windows in the bathroom and bedroom and both had seaviews, absolutely beautiful. The downside of the room is that the furniture and carpet is outdated. As is the rest of the hotel. It needs a fresh look, perhaps with sea colours which will make the rooms lighter and more inkeeping with its outside surroundings. I would also say that although most of the room was clean, there are areas which were missed, like hoovering under the bed and the doors were dusty and a bit dirty. Also the hotel restaurant had a really lovely menu but quite expensive between £14-£20 for a main. The character of the pub situated literally next door to the hotel, called The Mariners Arms was great to have as another place to drink and eat with seaviews but they need to include healthier options in the menu. If all those negative points were fixed, my overall rating would have been 5 star.

"We love staying here....."

4
11/07/2016

Have stayed and dined here three times in 9 months and will be returning as soon as we can find another excuse. It's not top end, it's not cheap, the food is not gourmet, the service is not first class, the fittings and fabric are not new....but it is just perfect! There is no hype or pretence, WYSIWYG, the staff are friendly and efficient, it overlooks the sea, the beautiful beach is a stroll away, our rooms have been faultless and we love the big lounge/ conservatory. An outpost of Norfolk Norfolk rather than London Norfolk......?!

"awful service"

11/07/2016

we did not stay at this hotel so I cannot comment on rooms, breakfast etc. We booked a table in the restaurant on Saturday evening because we wanted and expected a really nice meal. When we arrived we were shown to a table by an unsmiling member of staff, menus were put in front of us. We waited for somebody to take our drinks order but no such luck. The lady on the table near to us was complaining about her foot and three waitresses were crowded around her. My husband asked if anybody was going to take our order. No response. We got up, walked out and nobody even noticed!! Not a good experience at all.

"Lovely Hotel"

10/07/2016

Another excellent stay. We visit this hotel 2 or 3 times a year and are never disappointed. Staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Beds are comfortable and the food and room service is very good. The beach is a few minutes walk and sunsets are spectacular. There is a lift if you prefer not to use the stairs.

"Wonderfully peaceful room with great bathroom"

10/07/2016

After finishing the 46mile Peddars Way walk we were overjoyed to be shown our quiet, spacious room and a very welcoming bath. Dinned in the Mariners pub next door which was plain and simple pub Faye but well cooked. Breakfast was excellent and available early.

"Not Worth a Visit, Poor Value for Good Money"

2
10/07/2016

Despite asking when booking for a superior twin room accessed via a lift, this was not provided as non are available, but we were not informed when booking. In view of this, the guests appear to be generally older, as we are, and the lack of a lift to the new building additional rooms requires someone available to tote the luggage, we managed to get help from a kitchen person. Room was/is shabby and in need of much of refurbishment or at least a lot of TLC. The room is not superior it just has a sea view, a superior room has a higher level of facilities with in the room or enhanced décor etc. Room 122 appears to be the same as other rooms, but with a sea view. Clothes hanging facility is far less than a metre wide, tea making area even narrower which includes the hair drier in the dark recess with a mirror at the back. Single glazed windows let in noise from both sides from the two car parks. One twin bed is pushed hard up again the wall. Taps on the wash basin, spouts too short can't get hands under the water flow. Superior room???? with a shower over the bath complete with a clinging plastic shower curtain. Despite putting out the 'Do Not Disturb' hanger, housekeeping woke us by entering the room. Thursday 7 July our room was not serviced by the housekeeper even though the green hanger was on the door handle, therefore it was necessary to ring reception for tea, milk etc., so we had no clean towels made up beds or room tidied. Great Western claim this to be a superior room, it doesn't come close. A superior room should be actually superior with in the rooms four walls, not just because it has a sea view. For example this hotel fails due to all the above plus, GFW should effect a proper repair to damaged wall paper not just a large wallpaper patch stuck over damaged wallpaper, repaint windows where the paint is coming off, or damaged, or poor condition. Over the years we have always had in hotel breakfasts, during the 5 or 6 UK away breaks in the last 12 months, around 25 nights in all, we have breakfasted in the hotel, but I'm not prepared to pay £15 each simply because the nearest alternative option is some distance off. In short this hotel does not provide value for money for accommodation, food or drinks, it's only redeeming aspect is the staff who are generally very good.

"Generally good, some tweaks needed / Room 202 update"

4
08/07/2016

Firstly I would like to mention that we also suffered from the Fire Alarm debacle, which Nick H has already described accurately in an earlier review. However, I would like to add that the fire alarm had already gone off twice at lunchtime on the same day, again resulting in the evacuation of the building. The alarm system should have been checked by an engineer immediately. Also, during the midnight false alarms, no effort was made to ensure that the property was empty. We did get one knock on our room door, but that was it. Furthermore, neither of the night porters had a copy of that night's guest register to check that all residents had left the building and were safely accounted for. Hopefully the management will learn from this episode. We booked this hotel at the last minute, and were given room 202, virtually the last one available. After booking, I had noticed a few poor reviews of this room previously, so would like to put the record straight. Sure, it was cosy, probably one of the smallest doubles in the property, but perfectly adequate. There was no problem with the temperature (two windows provided a through breeze) and there was no noise from the 'Ancient Mariner' to concern us. The pub was very quiet after around 9.30 while we were there, and you are not directly above it anyway. Had we booked earlier, I am sure we would have got a larger room, but room 202 was perfectly satisfactory. The hotel itself is very nice, a bit old fashioned in style. The staff were all helpful and friendly, but the stand out feature is the hotels position, overlooking the quiet beach, with the Wash beyond that, with the bonus of a beautiful sunset on both of the evenings we were there. Marvellous. Notwithstanding the fire alarm issue, our only grumbles concern the food and drink available. At breakfast there was a tremendous range of cereals, pastries, yoghurts and fruit available, but this was let down by the 'full english'. The fried eggs were not thoroughly cooked, some of the albumen being in its raw state, the grilled tomatoes had hardly seen a flame, and the beans were virtually cold. These issues were soon rectified on request, but It was a shame that these simple errors occurred in the first place. Also there were no tinned tomatoes available. Some people prefer these at breakfast and it was astonishing that they did not have a few cans in the kitchen. The evening meal in the hotel was top quality however, although the portion sizes were 'modest' and need to be increased. The meals in the Ancient Mariner were equally good, and were more substantial. Finally, I would like to mention the drink prices. In the hotel they were expensive, but what you would expect. Unfortunately, the prices in the Ancient Mariner appeared to be the same. This is supposed to be a separate pub (although physically connected to the hotel) and I think £4 for a pint of standard bitter is excessive. In spite of these grumbles, we are sure to return, in particular for the location, which takes some beating!

"Lovely location for this 4* hotel"

5
06/07/2016

We stayed here for a weekend. This was a very good 4* hotel. The bed was firm, just right for me. We did not book in for breakfast so can't comment on the food. We were in room 219. The room was very clean and comfortable. The wifi was easy to get onto and a good speed. There are coffee sachets and a biscuits in the room. Our room looked out to the sea and we were very pleased with it and would ask for this room again. The bathroom was not a good size, clean with a shower over the bath, sink and toilet. The hair dryer was in a drawer in the bedroom. The reception staff we dealt with were really nice. There was a bar area which also had some lovely views out to the wash. There was also a pub next to the hotel which was very popular. About the area - The immediate hotel grounds back onto the sand and it is moments to get to the sea. It is a 15 minute walk to town or a very quick drive. I found the area very quiet and quite relaxing. Prior to coming we were told that there was an event being held on the Friday night and that we might experience some noise up to 12pm. We were reminded by reception on arrival that this might be the case. There was some noise, but it was over by 12 and after that we were not disturbed again exactly as they had said.

"Lovely hotel, location and atmosphere. NIGHT-TIME FIRE SAFETY PROCEDURE NON-EXISTENT"

4
04/07/2016

Lovely hotel, lovely food and helpful staff and a beautiful room with comfortable beds and an outstanding location with a beautiful beach. But 12am and 1am fire safety shambles on Saturday / Sunday 2nd / 3rd July 2016. The fire safety procedure was non-existent. Manager non-existent at any point during the incident even after I asked the night porter to call for him and get him up. The night porters said the fire engine was on its way and automatically linked in to the NEW fire system, but obviously was not as it took almost an hour to get there from the first fire alarm at 12am One of the residents had to call the fire brigade because the night porters were clueless and inept in any procedure in what could have been a life-threatening situation. The lady who called 999 was put through to a Lincoln exchange and were given the name of the hotel and the postcode but still asked for the road name. It's 1am, people are tired, the porters are looking for the fire so are absent, the phone exchange should have been more proactive too. Senior citizens not looked after properly and left out in the cold. Again residents had to look after the elderly to find them blankets and jackets and communication and any direction was appalling. Best Western Hotel management, earn your salaries and get your night time staff trained for fire safety as well as your daytime staff. Don't cut corners with people's lives. A broken night's sleep and needless stress due to a faulty fire detection system and poor procedure on what should have been a relaxing break - The receptionist was kind and apologetic the following day, but where was the hotel manager? I am very concerned about any of the Best Western Hotels fire safety procedure now. If you go to any Best Western Hotels please check the night time staff are fully versed in a fire safety. I don't know what warrants a star rating in a hotel but this one should temporarily have one of its stars taken away until their safety equipment and procedures have been fully checked.

"An excellent dinner"

5
15/06/2016

Booked a table in the restaurant for a special birthday dinner with my wife. We booked in person, calling in at the hotel after an evening stroll and mentioned it would be my birthday. On the day the staff had reserved a table in a prime position and handed me a hand written birthday card. A lovely start to our evening. Things got better when the food was served. An excellent starter and an excellent main course. All dishes served with a top clash presentation. Service could not be faulted. We were made very welcome, even though we were not residents.

"Lunch menu"

5
13/06/2016

Combined a visit to the lovely craft centre just across the road with lunch at this pub. It was a gorgeous sunny day, so we ate outside on the decking with a view across grassland ,by the golf course, to the sea. We only had sandwiches ,but they were excellent, the prawns were spilling out of mine, and service was good. Extensive menu available.

"Amazing views if you love the sea!"

05/06/2016

Well worth paying for a sea view room, although I don't know if they have many that aren't!! Lovely old style hotel but warm and welcoming with immediate access to the dunes and beach at the quiet end of Hunstanton . Loved every minute. Our room (208) was spacious and quiet with a fabulous bathroom.

01/06/2016

Absolutely brilliant stay. Clean comfortable room with wonderful sea views. Ver comfortable public areas in the hotel and plenty of outside space too, although the weather was not good enough to fully benefit from this. Breakfast service was excellent as was the quality and variety of foods on offer. We had dinner both nights in the Ancient Mariner Sunset Room, and actually saw a sunset! The service and food hare was also very good and reasonably priced. All the staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. We needed tp print off some boarding cards for a flight while we were there and receptionist could not have been more helpful, changing the in k in the printer and making sure that everything was working. We are looking at our calendar and trying to work out how soon we can return and we most certainly will do so

"Nothing Strange about this Hotel"

30/05/2016

Staying in this Hotel is a First Class Experience. Located near the beach and away from the main town - it offers peace and tranquility. The Hotel is clean and well presented; the staff are well trained, helpful and always smiling. We will certainly return.

"A nice 5 day break"

28/05/2016

We have stayed at this hotel many times, the hotel in an excellent position the staff are very helpful and the facilities are very good. The rooms are very well kept. We were looked after by Kim who made sure that we had a table for breakfast and dinner that was easy to get to as being disabled it's difficult to get around, but no worries it was all sorted - many thanks to Kim. The only downside of this visit was the food, we have never had cause to complain before but the new chef needs to get his act together as the food is one of the reasons to use this hotel When we came to checkout the young lady on reception was a great ambassador for the hotel Unfortunately I did not get her name Overall not a bad visit but let down by the evening meals

"A Pleasant Weeks Stay"

5
27/05/2016

We chose Le Strange Arms Hotel for a weeks bird watching along the north coast of Norfolk. We were not disappointed. Booking of the hotel with Best Western was straight forward and easy; check-in also went smoothly and our large comfortable twin bedded room was just what we required. It was a corner room with windows on two sides giving views over the near by sea shore from both. The bathroom was also a good size with a shower over the bath and was fully equipped with the usual toiletries. The only criticism was that the shower head required a little bit of maintenance due to leaks which could cause water to spurt in various directions. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and happily answered any questions put to them. Breakfast consisted for the usual choice of a selection of fruits, cereals, Continental items as well as a wide range of cooked items. Meals later in the day offered a slightly more restricted choice with about half the menu being changed daily. The food was tasty and enjoyable but was somewhat on the expensive side. As an alternative, attached to the hotel is the Ancient Mariner pub where you can get a good meal at a cheaper price. All in all, a very pleasant place to stay and somewhere we would be very happy to return to. Highly recommended.

"Very friendly hotel"

4
20/05/2016

The Hotel is situated just behind the sand dunes with pleasant views across to the sea. It is a somewhat rambling building, reminiscent of many seaside hotels and might benefit from some refurbishment. We were members of a party of twelve guests. Our room (no 111) was spacious, clean and well decorated with a modern bathroom. Unfortunately some members of our party were less happy with their rooms. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and went out of their way to help. We stayed on half-board terms. The food was excellent, if slightly limited in choice. Given that mobile phone signals in this part of Norfolk are almost non-existent we were pleased to have free wifi, with excellent download speeds available throughout the hotel.

"Lovely North Norfolk escape"

5
18/05/2016

We were looking to escape for a couple of days and able to get a room at the last minute. We haven't stayed here for a good few years but found it to be almost as we left it but with the added bonus of a new "conservatory" on the front which extended the dining room and on the other side gave somewhere to sit and take in the sea view. We had a sea view room in the main part of the building, which was a bonus for such a late booking. The room was nicely decorated, had a very good sized bathroom with separate bath (view of the sea could be had from the bath if you opened the frosted window) and shower, a good sized TV, comfy bed - what more could anyone want for a short break. Breakfast was very good with prompt service. We dined at The Ancient Mariner "pub" next door, which is part of the hotel complex so you can add any spend to your hotel bill. The pub had been extended since our last visit, which was definitely needed, especially at the height of the season. The food was good here with great friendly service. The hotel is in a great position with the lawn leading down through the dunes to the beach. A great bonus for a morning and evening walk on the beach. Let's hope it's not so long this time before we return.

16/05/2016

3 of us had lunch here on the 15th may. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming and the food was excellent. 1 had curry, one pork chops and one salmon en croute. Very diverse but all were served piping hot, generous portions and well presented. The sunset room is a brilliant venue, overlooking the sea. On a day like yesterday, you couldn't wish for a better setting. The coffee cake was delicious!

I would like to say how impress I was with the member of the maintenance team at the site. I found myself in the car park after having a great meal with flat tire.i was struggling to change my wheel and a gentleman who I now knew by the name of John Yates who was sitting in the van having his lunch break came to assist me. He went above and beyond his duty.what a credit to Le Strange Arms!

"North Norfolk delight."

4
28/04/2016

This hotel must have one of the best positions in North Norfolk. Minutes walk to a sandy beach, which is an experience even in awful weather. The hotel is spotless, with our standard room a pleasant surprise. It was very big with a huge bed, which was excellent. The bathroom was just the right size, with a very good shower. The restaurant was welcoming, with all of the young staff attentive, polite and friendly. The menu was reasonably varied, and was delivered in good time, freshly prepared, hot, and very enjoyable. Breakfast was also very good, with food cooked to order, Much better than a buffet. Again breakfast staff were on the ball, bringing coffee promptly, and taking our order with a smile and some light conversation. (Just what you want after a night on G&Ts). we will certainly return when the summer is here.

"Ok, But!"

08/04/2016

Just had a 2 night break on a B&B. The hotel was fully booked so very busy, but they seem to cope ok with the breakfast service. The breakfast was just what you'd expect, from a Best Western, help yourself to cereals, fruit & juice, waited tables for the cooked. We did like the fact that you could sit where you wanted and the toast was proper bread, not that nasty cheep stuff. We had a double room 114 which was nicely decorated, and quite large. But we both found the bed to be very hard, but I guess it's all down to what your use too. The bathroom was shower only but it was clean and warm. There was however noise from what we think was some sort of extractor fan that ran all night long, good job we always take ear plugs. We did ask to be moved but they only had rooms in the annexe, which was very dated so we decided to stay putt, but at least they offered. I think that the hotel could be made into somewhere very special, given it's location, right on the sea front, but that will take a great deal of work, which is made even harder due to the fact that the building is listed. If I could make a suggestion, to the owners. Make the most of the grounds that come with this hotel, they could be made fabulous, with a little imagination and hard work. All considered we would stop there again.

"Best Western Le Strange Arms Hotel"

Got room 109. No bath and view of a brick wall. How can you charge the same for this as say room 111. Receptionist kindly moved me to Room 123. Can to call Dity manager to get the shower working. During a shower the extractor fan blew fluffy dust all over the walls ceiling, basin and toilet. No BBC ceefax avaiable on TV. Many evening meal options not available because of a busy Saturday (Scallops, Steaks, Fish, Ravioli....). Breakfast quality noticably down. Fresh natural yogurt and fruit compot replaced with tubs (and only toffe and vanilla flavours appeared to be available). Missed Hash brown off breafast order. Mushroom option changed to half a portabello, not peeled so didnt eat. Bread for toast and fried slice poor quality. It was a white bloomer and not white slice so both were so brittle they distintigrated into crumbs. Skin on sausage thicker so plastic texture. No warm milk jug with coffee, just a cold one on the same. Sunday Roast in Mariners Arms not value for money at 12.95. Had much better for considerably less. You could hear everything going on in the bathroom upstairs very very clearly.

"Good hotel in a good location"

06/04/2016

Hotel is a great location right on the beach. Staff are friendly and helpful. The room was clean and a good size but decor abit dated. The only thing was the food food wasn't he greatest especially for the price. I ordered the Confit Duck and was hard as stone. We never had dinner there again and found a great Fish and Chips called Eric's shop 7 minutes drive from the hotel which was much more tastier and much more cheaper.

"Le Strange Arms Hotel, Hunstanton"

04/04/2016

Lovely staff, but interiors quite shabby with 1970s decor, and breakfast and bar menu quite tired. So whilst a super position by the sea, it takes advantage of this selling point, and makes it quite expensive for what it is.

"Hunstanton fun"

04/04/2016

Le Strange is a decent hotel, very comfortable and right on the beach. Rooms are confortable, decor ins't to my taste but the bed was extermely comfy and the breaklfast good. Staff seemed very helpful also, would definitely recommend a stay here

A lovely hotel, with an old-fashioned feel to it. We have been there numerous times over the last 20 years and keep going back because we love it. Lovely quiet location with easy access to the beach; a choice of dining facilities and very helpful staff.

"one night stay"

4
03/04/2016

The staff were very helpful and friendly and the room, with a sea view, was spacious with a bed wide enough for 4! The breakfast was very good with the cooked meal freshly prepared. Excellent hotel for a one night stay and we could find no faults, however it would be a bit too expensive to stay longer.

"Pleasant stay in the Boat House"

4
29/03/2016

The top floor of the Boat House worked out well for us (family with 2 girls who were happy to share a double bed). It was good to have the separate lounge area (with its sea-view) to ourselves. The only complaint was that the rooms were too hot, even with the thermostat turned down, Storm Katie made it impractical to open the windows.

"Traditional hotel but requires some updating of bedrooms and facilities"

4
28/03/2016

My room was at the back of the hotel therefore no sea view but it was a budget room. As a single traveller i opted for the twin beded room as they tend to be more spacious than a single bedded room. My room was quite dark due to dark furniture and dark wallpaper - a lighter coloured wallpaper would really lift and brighten up this room. the two adjacent bedrooms were lighter and brighter. the carpet was a dark red colour that was well worn and really needs replacing. The bathroom was compact with only a shower (no bath) but appeared modern compared to the bedroom. everything worked - Heating, Hot water, kettle, Hairdryer. Other guests were complaining that they had NO heating or hot water so i felt lucky that my room was warm and comfy. It is a shame that for breakfast there is now and extra charge of £3.50 if you wanted the smoked haddock or kippers. On previous visits this was included in the breakfast menu - A REAL SHAME and I think £3.50 extra is a lot to pay considering that you would forfit the other items on the breakfast menu. The veggy sausages were good and very authentic - smoked in flavour and a realistic texture - I did ask the waitress if they were veggy (reply was a polite - QUORN). Another couple the next day were unsure too about them ! Wi Fi connections in the hotel and bedrooms was excellent and quick too - well done. Overall i would stay here again - (my 5th stay to date).

"GREAT STAY GREAT BED"

Loved the location, best nights sleep i have had in years. Great food, room service fast. great location, near the beach. great walks. I would definitely recommend the winter offer too. Great value. EXCELLENT!

"A most enjoyable stay"

4
24/03/2016

Hotel very good and ideally located for exploring the Norfolk coast. Breakfast special and The Ancient Mariner public house next door gives you options for eating. Could have done without the nice man revving his sports car from 6.30 - 8.30 am but when you are important and have a red open top , you can please yourself and not worry about the comfort of fellow guests..

"Birthday break"

4
24/03/2016

Went there to celebrate my husbands birthday. Hotel left card in the room which was a nice touch. Room comfortable, but we couldn't shut window properly but the curtains were thick so it didn't matter. Sea view room which gave lovely views of the spectacular sunsets. We stayed B&B and evening meals. These were varied and of good quality, although we struggled to have a bread roll with soup as it was all fancy bread! The walks on the beach were lovely and the whole area is good to potter around with picturesque villages. A very enjoyable break

"Lovely hotel , lovely setting"

5
22/03/2016

It's the perfect place for us. We love birdwatching in Norfolk and have stayed at various hotels over the years but we'll come back to this one from now on. It's ideally situated for all the reserves. It's clean, very comfortable, good quality and reasonably priced. The adjoining Ancient Mariner Inn is perfect for less formal dining

"Great Hotel and Staff"

"Le Strange 3 night stay"

5
16/03/2016

This is our 3rd stay at this hotel and it has never failed to impress. The staff were all very attentive. Our sea view room was very good and the location is great for beach walks. The Breakfast choice was excellent and the staff worked hard to ensure everyone had good service. The menu at the Ancient Mariner pub has a great choice, quick service and you can charge the bill to your room, easy. Thanks Le Strange for another very good stay.

"Lovely hotel with very friendly staff!"

15/03/2016

Booked a last minute visit to the coast and was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The staff we're very friendly and on arrival we were given a free upgrade to a junior suite. The room itself was very clean and well presented. We ordered food from the bar to the room. Not sure it was an option, but the staff on reception were very helpful and sorted it all out for us! Food was nice and not too expensive. Highly recommend a stay at this hotel. Very close to Hunstanton Beach and a short drive from the main town.

"Comfortable hotel , wonderful location"

5
15/03/2016

We booked a weekend at Le strange hotel , Hunstanton , we was not disappointed ! The hotel was a little dated but clean , well appointed and the staff were very good !! Breakfast was lovely and set us up for the day , we managed to visit lots in the area with the hotel not too far from all the places we like to visit ! We will return I'm sure !

"Amazing stay"

4
06/03/2016

We went with friends and stayed in the boat house. The view overlooking the sea was amazing , the boat house was modern and well equipped . The only downside of this holiday was the food in the pub was not cooked fresh it seamed to be reheated to order and poor value for money but in the morning the breakfast was good .

"Fantastic, amazing room"

5
06/03/2016

We had a family room no 208. It was great a really big spacious room. It had a separate roomwith two twin beds in. The bed was huge, if fact (me husband andlittle one ) all slept in the same bed for the.night. there was loads of space. Would be lovely to spend more than one night there. Staff were very nice and very helpfull. The only down side was the food was not great at the mariners inn next door. We chose to eat in there in steed of the main hotel resturant as we had our little one with us. Breakfast was lovely all you could wish for. Would definitely good back and wuld recommended to anyone. Great location too.

"NORFOLK COAST - Le Strange Arms"

5
05/03/2016

Nothing strange about this hotel. GREAT Location, Food, Rooms, Service, Cost. Check this Hotel out! You will not be disappointed. Relaxing coastal retreat, ideal for that well deserved break and if weather is not playing ball watch the coast from the conservatory with a hot chocolate.

"Fabulous location"

5
03/03/2016

Stayed at his hotel many times, location yards from beach, near to many amenities, golf course next door, Sandringham estate nearby, beautiful Norfolk villages, marshes, bird and seal sanctuaries, hotel full of character and history, run by local people, very friendly and welcoming. you will not be disappointed.

"Great stay in beautiful room"

4
01/03/2016

We live in East Norfolk but wanted an overnight in North Norfolk to visit a few more reserves in the area. Le Strange hotel is in a stunning position, right on the edge of the dunes as the coast bends round towards the East. Sitting in the breakfast room we watched hundreds of Brent Geese float round on the tide at the start of the day. We booked the 4 poster room - a beautiful, large room with wonderful decor. A giant bed, lovely furnishing and equally good bathroom made it a special place to stay. As we were only staying one night we weren't worried about the outlook but it is at back of hotel. If I was staying longer I would opt for one of the sea view rooms - it's not a complaint but just something to be aware of if you want to see the sea and the sunsets! Breakfast was great - loads of choice from buffet and then cooked bacon, eggs etc too. All fresh and nicely prepared. We booked via the Abacus Hotel website which gave us a £10 voucher towards food and beverages - nice touch which paid for our night cap before bed. Joined to the hotel is the Ancient Mariner pub which serves nice meals - if considering booking DB&B - check out the Ancient Mariner website first - we found they were offering a 50% food voucher when we stayed. So we just booked B&B and used our voucher in the pub restaurant - saved us quite a lot of money on the DB&B rate. Their food is good, wholesome pub fayre. Food is the hotel restaurant also looked great although more expensive - but the pub food served us well after a day around nature reserves. Staff were all friendly and helpful - even the builders in the grounds were 'birders' and we had a friendly chat about what to see in the area!

"Best, Best Western we've stayed in!"

5
01/03/2016

We stayed at Best Western Le Strange Arms Hotel, Hunstanton and it was fabulous. We booked a sea view room, for 2 adults and when we arrived, had been given an upgrade to a family room, with sitting room and a second bedroom! The view was fabulous. We had room service (breakfast) and that was lovely. Couldn't fault the hotel, although the only thing I would say is that the pricing of the restaurant is a little steep.

"Very enjoyable stay"

4
29/02/2016

The staff were very helpful. The double room was very large and comfy, with good facilities (iron and board, kettle and tea and coffee facilities. Location is lovely - right by the beach. Good wireless internet. Breakfast was excellent.

"Great value, great location."

4
28/02/2016

Myself and my husband stayed for one night for a romantic weekend. Staff very friendly, room clean, bed comfy, our room had dual aspect sea views, which was lovely. Great price online direct with best western. Good choice at breakfast. All in all will be back, probably with the kids next time as they would love the direct access to the beach.

"Birthday weekend"

5
22/02/2016

We stayed at Le Strange Arms this last weekend for my husbands birthday. We initially loved the location which is right on the beach, with a fantastic view of Kite surfers, but we're very impressed with the Hotel itself.. what a beautiful place, the perfect spot, gorgeous building and even better we were upgraded to a fabulous family room with far reaching views of the beach from two sides. It's is very nicely decorated, very clean, we had a 6ft , extremely comfortable, bed, tvs in both rooms, spotlessly clean and room service was excellent. Staff were all very pleasant ! I would like to book the family room in the future but can t seem to find it on any site?? I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Perfect Beach"

4
22/02/2016

Great location, right on the beach. Big gardens and good facilities, staff great and hotel / room very clean, comfortable bed, lovely room and great pub next door. The only slight downside is the bar / lounge / restaurant area which need updating.

"Good location."

3
21/02/2016

We stayed at the Le Strange for a family celebration. We had a sea view room, which was pleasant, but a little dated and in need of a refurb. However, that said, the room was of a good size, provided the required sea view and a comfy bed and would be a perfectly adequate base to explore the local area. My wife, found the room to be too hot for sleeping, probably my fault for turning the heating up when we 1st arrived! The breakfast provided a good choice through the cold buffet and the full English was nicely cooked and certainly set us up for the day!

"Lovely Room"

4
19/02/2016

The room was lovely,I had a sea view which was beautiful. The bed was so comfortable and they had a nice deep bath unlike lots of hotels. The breakfast was ok, but I did think it was a bit pricey. All in all a nice hotel.

"Vince McAllister"

17/02/2016

Stayed 15/02/16. Pleasantly surprised to be given a room upgrade on arrival which had a separate siting room and bedroom (2 televisions) with views of the beach and the sea. Roaring fire in the lounge and everywhere very clean. A very good breakfast and all staff were helpful.

"Welcoming, immaculate and attention to detail"

5
15/02/2016

I arrived just after 9pm on a Friday night having driven for around 3 hours straight from work. I used the 24hour room service to order a sandwich and drink - all reasonably priced and the staff welcoming. I had to leave my suit case outside the room whilst I returned to my car and in the meantime room service arrived and also took my suit case into my room. That was a nice touch - well done. When I opened the door to my room I was very pleasantly surprised. It was immaculate with attention to detail. The bed was fabulous and the shower was even better. The room exceeded my expectations. It wasn't one with a sea view. Breakfast was efficiently served. The sandy beach was literally a stone's throw away. A great location. After a refreshing walk into Hunstanton during the day I returned and had an informal nice meal in the hotel's adjacent Old Mariner pub. Good wifi throughout the hotel and pub. The craft centre opposite has some nice pieces . At night it was time to head back into Hunstanton to the Princess Theatre for a Heather Small concert. She was great too. I left after breakfast on Sunday having enjoyed my stay and would stay again in a heartbeat. I'd imagine it's a nice place to stay at Christmas. The only aspects that weren't perfect, but not enough to knock off any marks, were that arriving in the dark after a day at work and a 3 hour drive were that the location of the hotel's car park wasn't immediately apparent to me (you effectively approach the hotel from the back and have to drive up and round the hotel to the left to park in front of the hotel) and sound transmission was evident from the adjacent room. But certainly no marks knocked off and I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Oops I've said that twice. Thank you Le Strange Arms.

"Surprise Party"

3
10/02/2016

Our room was the most expensive, which overlooked the main car park & part of the beach. I did ask for a beach view, I wished I hadn't bothered as both of my daughters rooms were huge, but very dated. Definitely needs to be refurbished in most areas. The bar area the next day was rather busy as it took quite a while to order an afternoon tea, as there was only one member of staff serving. The location however was perfect. Apart from The beach area due to the stranded whale that had been washed up on shore, and it has became very sadly a tourist attraction.

"What nice service"

5
08/02/2016

What can I say from the start of my visit tim the end the service was top notch. The morning and afternoon receptionists were both polite and efficient, the night porter was a saint organising a drink for us after a hard day and even cooking us breakfast for a very early start. The room and ambience is great and the hotel clean and tidy. Well done.

"Nice position but room needed updating"

3
08/02/2016

We had a 2 night stay at this hotel. The hotel is in a good position and the room was clean and the staff friendly. The only down side was the room which seriously needed updating, if you were a large person you would have trouble sitting on the toilet without banging your knees on the radiator! Sellotape was holding the wall paper in place on one wall.

"Avoid their hog roast"

3
06/02/2016

Went to the hotel for a birthday party. Overall the function room and bar were lovely but if you book a function there do not have the hog roast as it was very awful. The rolls with the meat in came out cold and were served on a sliver platter, could of put them in one of those trays that keep food warm. Meat was full of fat, no plates, someone had to ask for some and then they came out cold. Only good thing about it was the ketchup!! Very disappointing indeed. Won't recommended this hotel especially if you want to hold a function there.

"Could have stayed forever"

5
04/02/2016

One of the Best Western Hotels we have ever stayed in. Very near the beach in Old Hunstanton, quiet, beautiful views. Excellent service from all the staff in the Hotel from reception desk to cleaning team. Lovely rooms very clean and excellent sea views from the bedrooms at the front and side of the Hotel.. Two minutes drive to Hunstanton itself which is a very quaint seaside were you can walk for a while along the sea front. Would go back there again to the same Hotel, we were upgraded to room 208 which is a family room very large, massive bathroom we felt very grand in there. We had a lovely weekend just wasn't long enough.

"A really plesant stay"

5
03/02/2016

My first visit to this hotel, on business. I hope this will not be the last. A very pleasant stay with helpful and courteous staff. The restaurant was very pleasant and served good food. I was, as a diamond best western member up graded to a suite with sea views. I had a very good room rate which I suppose reflected the time of year as this I would imagine is a more seasonal hotel being on the seaside. I did not have breakfast due to early check out but would imagine it would be good. I have but one small word of warning and this in no way reflects on the hotel or staff and it is that despite having two mobile phone on two differing networks there was absolutely no signal, the staff were aware of this. As I said its not the Hotel but the lack of a mast near enough to be of use, Now to many this may well be a blessing I am sure as it will stop that annoying individual who seems always to be present using the restaurant as their office whilst eating or talking for hours to home or alike. Trust me I have been there too many times! My policy is not to take my phone there, I do wish others would not too! Anyway nothing to do with the Hotel. Parking was very easy and there was easy access to the beach and surrounding areas and I have no doubt many a good walk is to had from this location. My thanks to the staff for a most pleasant stay and have no problem recommending this hotel as many others have.

"Charming hotel."

5
30/01/2016

We stayed for one night in the Le Strange Arms hotel. I had worked there in the 60's so it was good to go back, although it has changed a lot - I could hardly recognise anywhere! It is a charming hotel with lovely staff. The room was clean and very comfortable and the facilities excellent. It's location right next to the beach means we will return! Perfect for a walking holiday.

"Very impressed"

29/01/2016

I could not fault our stay at Le Strange Arms. Lovely location with extremely helpful and friendly staff. Most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept it and room very clean. Delicious breakfast too. All in all really enjoyed it, a very relaxed and comfortable stay. Recommended.

"Best Western Le Strange Arms Hotel, Hunstanton,"

4
29/01/2016

We would go back to this hotel as the location and easy access to the beach was excellent. The pub next door was very convenient if you didnt want a main meal in the hotel which I think was run by the hotel as well. Plenty of room for off road parking.Very spacious outside seating area for eating and drinking with a sea view .A couple of minor faults in the bedroom were one bedside lamp did not work and the cheap sprung loaded toilet roll holder fell to bits every time it was used these minor faults I mentioned to the reception lady when we left. This did not at all spoil our stay and would definitely stay there again. Thanks Best Western.

"Excellent quality and value."

5
29/01/2016

We booked one night midweek and were given an upgraded super-king size room, with excellent four-poster bed; the whole room perfectly and tastefully furnished and immaculately clean; very spacious and quiet with armchairs and table and a large bathroom. Faultless. Evening meal excellent quality food. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Contact them direct for the best ever rate. Very affordable!

22/01/2016

We stayed at Le Strange Arms for our ruby wedding for two nights. We had a wonderful stay. The Queen sea view room was warm and cosy although outside temperatures were below freezing! The staff were very helpful. The sandwiches from the bar at lunch time were amazing! The log fire was very welcoming.

"excellent stay"

19/01/2016

Stayed at this Hotel for one night Sunday 17th January in a Superior double room overlooking the sea. The room was very good, modern, clean and with good furnishings. All the Staff at he Hotel were very pleasant, courteous and helpful. The Mariners Pub adjoining the Hotel had a roaring log fire. Staff and food at the pub were both good, didnt much care for the noisy barking dogs in there lunchtime though! The Hotel also had a roaring log fire. Breakfast on the Monday morning was excellent, with very good service. Would definitely return to this Hotel. Much better Hotel than Best Western Hotel at Marks Tey

"Great New Years stay"

4
17/01/2016

Spent 2 nights here, including New Year's Eve. Lovely hotel. We had a spacious but cosy corner room - really nice. The location is amazing - right on the seafront. Food was great. They had a lovely big fireplace in one of the lounges and it was disappointing that it wasn't on at all while we were staying!

"Very good hotel"

4
17/01/2016

The staff were very friendly and efficient. We were upgraded to a suite with a lovely sea view. It was exceptionally cold weather with a fierce gale blowing and we mentioned that although there was central heating the room was not very warm and the heated towel rain it the bathroom was not working. We were brought two heaters and the towel rail was fixed by the time we returned to the room. Excellect service. Great location.

"Lovely Hotel"

16/01/2016

We enjoyed a very relaxing break, and were very pleased that we had chosen this hotel. There was not a thing that we could fault, will certainly return. The only thing we weren't pleased with was the weather, but after all it is January! Marion Fry

"Wife's birthday"

5
15/01/2016

I looked for a nice hotel to take my wife for a 'special' birthday and settled on the 'Le Strange'. What a good choice it turned out to be. Very nicely appointed. Very pleasant helpful staff. Excellent room. Restaurant good too. Good car park so no problem parking, but it is January! My wife was delighted with her surprise as I had not told her where we were going. This Hotel is one I would return to and you cannot say that about many places. Excellent, thank you. Roger K. P.

"Great spot"

14/01/2016

Stayed here with colleagues and was put into the separate Boat House apartments which have their own lounge and kitchen area. Location right by the sea. Rooms were very affordable, clean and comfortable. Breakfast delicious and good service. Would be a great spot in the summer months.

"Great Hotel"

04/01/2016

This is a very good hotel. It is also in an excellent position for the beach and not that far from town. Service is always good and the staff are extremely helpful. Breakfast is of a good quality and nothing is too mch trouble. Would recommend this hotel.

"Supper by the sea"

4
30/12/2015

We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times previously over the Christmas holiday. The hotel is very good and looks out to sea. Always popular and usually busy. This year we didn't stay here but had dinner last night which was very good.

"Xmas at Le Strange"

4
28/12/2015

This was our 4th Christmas at Le Strange Arms, and still as good as ever. Treated really well by all staff. Plenty of food, excellent quality. Buffet Xmas Evening a little short on Selection - but no need to go hungry. Throughout the hotel lounges - sweets, chocolates, mince pies, xmas cakes, cup cakes, biscuits, all available all day long. Plenty of teas and coffees available over the Xmas period. Rooms really clean and comfortable. Car Park excellent - but rather chaotic on Boxing Day when visitors to the beach took over the car park restricting residents parking - particular at lunch time and early afternoon. Yes, we have booked for next Christmas already.

"Great hotel"

5
22/12/2015

Very much enjoyed our stay. Very friendly, helpful staff. Lovely room with a sea view. Delicious breakfast with a great choice of items on offer. Perfect location for the beach and a leisurely stroll into Hunstanton.

"Lovely refreshing break"

5
21/12/2015

We stayed overnight here as part of my husband's birthday weekend. The weather was glorious so we were able to enjoy two beach walks in the sunshine. The hotel is very warm and comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We booked a room with a sea view, which was lovely. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. We hope to come again before too long! Many thanks.

"Tasteless"

3
15/12/2015

The food was tasteless, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was such a letdown, Fish poor, chocolates cheesecake poor and sickly. Out of 100 people most did not eat their food, The staff and the dancing and good company made a good nights

"Improved massively in 10 months "

4
14/12/2015

I've stay here twice in 10 months and the improvement in service levels is emmence. Staff are really friendly, I like when chefs are front facing and the breakfast chef was and very chatty! I had a better room than last time, looked like it had a soft refurb and new bathroom! Look forward to returning in July!

"A wonderful place to stay"

5
12/12/2015

The staff were happy friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was perfect. The food was fantastic with an excellent choice on the menu. All the rooms were fantastic, most had seas views. The the décor was rich and in keeping with its olde world charm. All of the bedrooms were luxurious, and extremely comfy, our bathroom was huge and spotless. The whole hotel was lovely and warm, and the gardens well kept. The staff were constantly cleaning and making sure everyone had all they needed for a lovely stay.

"Not as good as it used to be"

3
07/12/2015

I wont really mention my previous visit to this one except that we asked for a quiet room and were put in a room above a disco without the option for moving, as the hotel was full. So, they were pretty lucky that we bothered to return again but as long term customers we thought we would give the place a second chance. This time, as the hotel no longer allows just one night stays at the weekend, we went outside of a weekend. Right from the start the website seemed temperamental and only offered us superior rooms despite us booking well in advance. However, we decided to treat ourselves and go for the superior option anyway. Upon arrival, our room appeared to be reasonable although the bathroom had a suite that looked like something out of the seventies with dirty sealant, grouting and rusty pipe work, definately not superior. The discovery of two pubes in the bath was off putting but not as off putting as a neaby hall radiator singing like a fax machine, so we asked to be moved. Our second room was far better but again the bathroom in places did not appear to be that clean in places (skirting boards looked like they had not been dusted for months, however, as everything else appeared clean then we werent bothered). The hotel although a bit ram shackle always used to have its own particular charm and was always comfortable, clean and inexpensive (so you could overlook some items which more fussy visitors would raise eyebrows about). However, it would appear that the place has gone through a cost cutting exercise recently and to be honest it shows. Prices seem to have increased but care over different areas has decreased. I hope that this is just a temporary blip in the hotel's fortune but two bad visits in a row to the place has kind of put me off future bookings.

"Meal out"

5
25/11/2015

Went out for a great family meal. Great value for money. Venue is in a nice setting and well maintained. Whilst walking about the building the staff were very polite and thank you to John (maintenance) who took timeout to give us an insight to the current work being undertaken to ensure its tradition features remain. Very polite man and will definitely recommend this venue.

Booked by my husband as a birthday treat, he couldn't have chosen better. We'd had a couple of days at the Le Strange in the spring and knew we would return. The hotel has managed to be delightfully old fashioned whilst being right up to date in the things that matter. We had a sea view room, and what a view ! The grounds go straight on to the dunes dotted with beach huts. Fabulous for families in the summer. The food is very good, with several choices of venue, the pub, the Oak Bar or the restaurant where you get a legendary breakfast, freshly cooked to order. The cherry on the cake was the roaring fire in the lounge, storm Barney was passing by. Thank you to the staff who are all a credit to the hotel, polite, friendly, efficient and just lovely. We will be back !!

An excellent stay, room good, internet good, excellent breakfast and the adjoining pub was good for casual dining in the evening. Right on the beach , an excellent base for walking in North Norfolk, bird watching or stately home visiting although they were all closed in November.

By far our favourite Best Western Hotel. Have lost count how many times we have stayed there over the years. Overlooking the sea, peaceful and very relaxing. A good base for visiting Norfolk. The staff are mainly local and care about their job and to please customers. The lady (Sandy) in the restaurant has been there for years.

My wife booked a table for our 25th anniversary meal on 26th October , 2015. Which turned out to be an enjoyable surprise. The meal in the restaurant was pleasant ,the service was good, the food good and served on hot plates., ( not all places serve on hot plates) we were waited upon by the pleasant Leanne . Lovely time had and would return for a meal at this hotel.

All staff were very helpful and polite. The room was clean, comfortable and although spacious was very cozy. Beautiful view overlooking the sea from our room. Full marks for a good breakfast selection , and compliments to the chef for the very tasty cooked breakfast.

Our room had a stale smell when you walked through the door. Some of the wall paper was pealing and a section of paper on the ceiling was pealing as well and had been held up by sticky tape. If the room was to the same standard as the en suite. It would have been very good but it wasn't. For a hotel with the AA rating it has I would have expected better. I would not stay again

Stayed with the family here for two nights B&B. As have stayed here before we knew of its excellent location right on the front. Friendly hotel staff and breakfast excellent. Lots of food and staff could not be more helpful. Had one room in the boathouse and one in the main hotel. All acceptable but now a bit worn and tired. Nevertheless would recommend and return again.

"Great location right on beach"

I booked this hotel because of the location: the beach is right at the end of the garden. I had booked a standard room but was given a large-ish room with a seaview and sitting area, which was decorated to a high standard, so I was very happy about that. I didn't book breakfast as it was quite expensive, and so we took some food down to the beach instead. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

"A friendly and welcoming retreat in Old Hunstanton"

We stayed for a few nights at the Best Western Le Strange Arms as part of a mini-break by the North Norfolk coast in Autumn. There was plenty of car parking to the rear, with outdoor seating and a lawn area. The hotel over looks the scenic coast with some lovely views when the tide is in during the early evening. It also has a Summer house for guests to use, located right on the verge of where the lawns meet the sand dunes. Upon arrival the receptionist was welcoming and friendly. The hotel was clean and tidy with plenty of information about the local area and attractions to make the most of our stay. Our room was located on the first floor and boasted dual aspect views, one was a good view over the coast, and the other window looked out towards the nearby RNLI lifeboat station. The room was spacious and clean with appropriate furniture to make our stay comfortable including large flat-screen TV, table, chairs, wardrobe and a writing desk for those all important postcards. The shower was hot and powerful and the bathroom was modern with plenty of complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was served from 07:30 to 09:30 and was a good standard. During our stay we opted for the vegetarian option and eggs cooked various ways, all of which were cooked well. The breakfast buffet had a range of the usual cold options. All in all we would happily recommend Le Strange Arms and look forward to staying on our next visit to the area. .

"Oak Bar!! Amazing Food!! "

On Monday 19th October, Me and the Husband went for dinner in the Oak Bar! We had heard about the hotel from friends who we was visiting that day! And they were right!... It's was brilliant!! I only had a main course from Special menu... To be honest it was the best fish I had ever had with a topping of cheese and tomato! Thank you very much to the chef who cooked the meal for us!! Also thank you for the young bar man (Kieran) for moving use to a bigger table as my husband had three starters!! The young lady who delivered the food to us, Was very polite and welcoming before she placed the food on the table... unfortunately we didn't get a name but we think she was a manager as she wasn't in a uniform. Half way throw are meal a group of men with suits on came into the bar and were having drinks... They were very loud but didn't put us of our meal!! The only one thing about the hotel was that half way throw the night the young bar man disappeared and didn't return for a while! It's not a very big thing but we did have to wait to pay the bill at the end! ... Another gentleman did go to reception to see where the bar man was... The young girl from reception came throw to the bar and a few minutes later the young bar man came back!! The bar man did apologise and said he was helping serve another function in another room!! Thank you very much for a lovely meal and we will both be back again soon!

"Great hotel let down by the restaurant"

We spent four nights here as a base for exploring North Norfolk with an elderly parent. Our sea view rooms were exactly as we had requested and had everything that you would expect from a hotel of this class - comfortable Queen beds, plenty space around the desk and chairs, tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities, Freeview TV, well lit en-suite with plenty of hot water, complimentary wi-fi that didn't require repeated log in (although the internet signal was sometimes weak) and we never had any problem finding a space in the large, free car park. Throughout our stay, every member of staff (reception, restaurant and housekeeping) made a point of making sure that we had everything we needed and, if we had been staying on a B&B basis, I'd have no hesitation in awarding a full 5 stars. However, we had also opted to eat in every evening and we found the quality of the food to be variable. When it was good, it was indeed very good, but on too many occasions it fell short of being acceptable. Examples included a melon fan that had the consistency of an uncooked turnip and a salmon steak that was raw in the centre (we noticed that we were not the only diners to return this dish to the kitchen). All of which seemed such a pity as a simple quality check before delivery to the table could have avoided the problems ............and earned that extra star.

"DISAPPOINTING AND THE SENIOR MANAGEMENT DON'T MIND!"

Our room was located in the Boat House - basically a self catering facility within the hotel grounds. We thought we had booked a hotel and were not expecting what we were offered-a room in a flat with a shared kitchen and lounge with other people who had the other bedrooms in the flat. We complained and were immediately offered 'The Bridal Suite'. Very nice but I would not like to be the bride staying here. The upper valance trim on the four poster had been secured in places with - hair clips, yuk! and my wife then found nail clippings in the drawer unit - double yuk!. Admittedly the situation was dealt with very well by the duty manager. On our leaving we were dealing with the Receptionist (a popular gathering point for the staff making it difficult for guests to see the Desk let alone access the Reception staff) when her colleague spoke across us and did not offer any apology - the young lady we were dealing with had to do that and it wasn't her fault. The manager is on long term sick and we did get a letter from the Acting Manager acknowledging we had had a problem. I then complained to the hotel's company headquarters and we were eventually offered a free meal should we find ourselves in the area. This hotel has great potential but its senior management's cavalier attitude will not allow this to be realised - shame for the staff who are working hard and for its customers who a little 'in the way'

We have just returned from a four day break staying at the Le strange hotel The staff are excellent Nothing is to much trouble all of them go the "extra" mile to help For example we had a problem with the phone in our room so we could not contact another member of our party The phone could not be fixed straight away so Leanne made arrangements for us to use a walker talkie system until the fault was fixed(next day) That was fantastic customer service The lady looking after the restaurant (Kim) made sure we had an easy table to get as two of our party are disabled. and when she was not there she left notes and instructions, again excellent customer service Another great asset was a young lady named Courtney She helped out and made sure everything was spot on They are a really great team It is an absolute pleasure to use the hotel and a comfort to know they will be there to make your stay unforgettable A huge thank you to them all

We booked a sunday/ Monday night stay - the hotel was fully booked which doesn't surprise me & the staff were really helpful, rooms very comfortable & restaurant was good. Location is great too - with Sandringham just down the road (which we found well worth a visit)

Stopped here for one night whilst in the area on business. I found the service at reception to be first class. My company had bilked a single room but the receptionist quickly upgraded me to a larger room for no additional charge. Well I say a larger room, it was almost a suite. I entered the room to find a small hallway with a wardrobe and the immaculately clean bathroom at one end and across the hall was the bedroom also impeccable. The towels and linens were clean and plentiful. Unfortunately I had no chance to enjoy the hotels beachfront location but the view from the lounge and dining room were stunning. In the morning I enjoyed a full English breakfast although there was a larger array of alternatives to tempt the tastebuds.

"Older seaside hotel"

12/10/2015

The location is the best feature of this older, slightly tired felling, hotel. Right on the beach front the far side of the cliffs from the busy part of Hunstanton. Easy to get to and tons of parking. The room was average, nothing special. The building itself has a bit of dated charm. We didn't do breakfast because the price was very high and there are tons of places to get a good breakfast in the area at a more reasonable price.

"Lovely autumn weekend."

This hotel has a wonderful location, gardens down to the sand dunes and a nice open feel to it. Having spent three days here we felt it was certainly a place to revisit. The room was nice with a very good en suite. Furnishings were comfortable decor were good. Breakfast was one of the best buffet styles I have enjoyed with good selections of cereals, fruits, cheeses, Danish pastries etc. The cooked selection was very nice and well presented. The adjoining pub was also excellent with good beers and food. Good outdoor areas for eating and drinking. The only thing I thought slightly let the hotel down was the dinner menu, with not a vast choice and also a little over priced for what you got. Having said that the food was still tasty. Room service was excellent and the staff in all areas were very professional. Overall an excellent weekend.

We book a Superior Room (No. 121) which was reasonably spacious, clean and tidy with fairly distant sea views. The hotel offered comfortable and spacious lounge areas. Good dining rooms. Breakfast very good, Table d'Hote evening meal menu adequate.

"Great location, pity about the room!"

Myself and my girlfriend went for a weekend away in Norfolk and stayed at this hotel, The location overlooking the Wash wouldn't shame a Spanish coastal resort, but it's a pity that we weren't allocated a sea view room, In fact our room was a major letdown in one aspect; temperature. It was far too hot all night, and the fan only helped slightly, but at least the bed was comfortableand everything worked. There was some slight peeling of the wallpaper but that wasn't a major issue, The redeeming feature was the staff and the food, which were both very good. It's a pity that it was dark when we ate in the evening, though we did experience a fantastic sunset on the Saturday evening. I would recommend this hotel but not room 202.

Visited this wonderful traditional old hotel for 3 nights last week. The level of service is next t none, with staff busying around all daylong to ensure that guest young and old receive a wonderful experience. The rooms are always spotlessly clean and the breakfast buffet is superb. Then there is the cooked option to look forward to afterwards. Once again, a wonderful time was had by both my husband and I and we look forward to going again next year.

This is a fantastic hotel very relaxing and a joy to stay in. We had a room at the front of the hotel with wonderful views over the Wash. The room was well furnished and very clean. The hotel itself is very well decorated and furnished. We ate in the hotel restaurant and had a great meal with wonderful sea views. The staff were all polite and friendly. I would very much recommend this hotel. We have stayed here a number of times and the standards are always the same and always excellent.

We have just spent 2 nights at this hotel. The setting is very good, it looks out to sea with the beach around 150m away. The hotel was very busy during our stay with all rooms booked, but the staff remained attentive and very pleasant. The restaurant food is pretty good, although the one desert we had was only OK and not up to the standard of the main course and starters. Breakfast was good, with a wide choice of fare. Our room, on the second floor, looked out to sea, was not very large, but was clean, quiet, and cool. We would certainly return to this hotel if we were to again stay in Old Hunstanton.

"Not What We Booked And Disabled Requirements Ignored"

20/09/2015

We booked this hotel for a 2 night break 3 months in advance and for the location and spent a long time on the 'phone making sure that we had 2 sea view rooms with one for a disabled friend next to the lift. We were required to pay the full rooms fees on arrival which we did before finding out that we did not have what we booked. On arrival my disabled friend had been placed in a room at the back of the hotel and a significant walk from the lift which she could not manage. Despite explaining that this was not what we booked and that it was a problem the manager did not come to see us and at time of writing we have heard no more on the matter with no apology and my friend has to manage although it was mentioned by the receptionist that there might be another room available the next day. This hotel is not cheap and the impression we are left with is they simply don't care. My daughter also found a piece of someone's nail in her food which was passed off as a piece of dried onion. The location is lovely but the hotel is tired and appears to be out of touch with little or no response to quite serious problems.

"Another Great Stay"

We keep going back time and again. This hotel ticks all the boxes for us, good food, great location and value for money. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. We stayed in a suite this visit and had room service several times, food arrived on time and piping hot. The beach is literally on the door step and the town is a 5 minute drive.
