Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel

Everybody here is extremely talented in their rolls. They knew exactly what I wanted before I could ever get it out of my mouth. Can't wait to come back during summer and get a room overlooking the lake. Make sure to hit restaurant and say Hi to Rob. Everyone coming and going knew him by name I can see why. Very professional and on the ball!

I spend a lot of time in hotels and decided to spend most of it at a Best Western. The Why is simple - Great people, great beds and a decor that settles me into a comfortable stay. Many of the hotels in the chain have great views of lakes, ocean or into green spaces. Most of all I enjoy being met with straight forward hospitality. Over the years I stayed in countless motels and hotels where the staff are trained to be polite but not always friendly. At best Western I can count on friendly and helpful staff regardless if I am in northern Ontario or Yarmouth Nova Scotia. Another thing I like is that each hotel has a different look yet much of the services are the same. Help to give me the home away form home experience that I have learned is so important when sitting in a hotel room miles away from home. Lastly is I am beginning to realize most of the hotels I stay in are dog friendly. So, now that summer is here I will hope to bring my pups with me now and then. Overall Best Western is my go to place to stay. Would like to say thanks to all the staff in all the hotels I've stayed in for making my stay comfortable and helping me sleep soundly.

We stayed here for two nights for a work event in March. The rooms were great, the event room was beautiful with a lovely view of the lake. The breakfast was also delicious- and the restaurant has a wonderful view. The only downside was overhearing the staff complain about our group's dietary needs.

Very clean hotel, friendly staff, I would highly recommend this hotel for location, pricing and a great staff was there during a basketball tournament and the staff had the teams behave and follow their curfew

Very disappointed. We booked a stay here via the best western website itself, around three weeks prior to our trip. We received a confirmation email immediately, and again the day before check in. We arrived to check in at 4pm and were told that they didn't have any double queen rooms left, (THEY GAVE AWAY OUR ROOM), and that our booking wasn't guaranteed (?!?!?). They offered us a room with one king bed - we are a large family with kids - so that wouldn't work. It was March break weekend so you can imagine that finding another last minute room at another hotel wasn't easy. Best Western staff were not helpful. We stayed calm and did not blame the front desk people, but they didn't seem to care for having left us in the cold. At our new hotel, the front desk lady informed us that, by regulation, Best Western should have paid for our new room (since we had to go somewhere else not by choice), which of course they didn't. Rather shameful.

Great location for seeing Halifax, 10 minutes to Dartmouth, Downtown and Bayers Lake and easily accessed right off the highway. Quick check in and friendly staff make the repeat trips I have made friendly and convenient. Beautiful lake view is always a nice bonus.

Clean rooms, great staff. Excellent dining room. Can't remember waiters name in the dining room, but he was amazing. Perfect every night. Definitely recommend. Staff really friendly and knowledgeable. Appreciated the pet gift pack.

This largish Best Western is perched beside a lake, just off the Armdale Rotary in Halifax. Make sure you get a room with a lake view—it's worth a few extra dollars. The hotel itself is a rambling structure that's not quite rundown, but has seen better days. The rooms are clean, but utilitarian at best, with dated bathrooms and older flatscreen TVs that can't properly render Hi-Def. The outside parking, at least on a Saturday night, is a mess. We returned to the hotel after 9:00 p.m., and the parking lot was full, with hired attendants doing their best to squeeze cars into impossible spaces. Be careful: some of the parking spaces can only be accessed by two-way/single-lane routes that encourage head-on collisions. The next morning, heading down for breakfast, we feared the worst. However, the hot buffet was wide-ranging and excellent, and diligently replenished by staff. A mixed bag, for sure. The views and breakfast are great, and the staff is friendly enough, but the parking will drive you to distraction.

Had a wonderful two night stay! This was our second time staying here and we will definitely be back. When checking in we a discount that I didn't know that we qualified for was applied to our rate and saved us a bit of money! Suite was very clean and beds very comfortable. The Free Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice and everything was freshly made, not from a package and heated in a microwave. All the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Staff rude and unhelpful. Pool was so overchlorinated it actually bleached my swimmers! The walls of the pool and hot tub were dirty. Hot Tub jets did not work and the hot tub was about 10 degrees too hot. everyone was getting in and getting out almost immediately. Games in game room are so derelict they steal money and staff refuse to rectify. Rooms and breakfast typical for BW.

Very clean rooms, polite staff, good food and a pool. Everything you need for a few night stay.. This hotel is just outside of downtown Halifax but close enough that you are downtown in 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.

Me and two friends get together twice a month and go to the restaurant at Chocolate Lake. Recently they've changed the menu and we struggle to find something we like. We go because the waiter, Rob, is fantastic and we consider him a friend as we go there so often. The views are the best in the city. The problem is the food. The old menu had several good choices with even the burgers were fantastic. They've removed the only cheesecake they had which was amazing. I hope they bring back the old menu or at least some of it. The spaghetti is overpriced as is some other items. The restaurant is not busy and it used to be. Please consider changing this back so we can continue going rather then picking a new place where we can enjoy the meal and dessert.

Great place for families, close to mall. Clean, nice pool and game room. Only issue is noise from lack of sound proofing. Otherwise had a great stay, breakfast was amazing! Had noisy neighbors but hotel staff tended to promtly.

Always a comfortable stay at Chocolate Lake. The restaurant is top notch, free breakfast is excellent. Free parking and close to downtown. And one of the best "homey" features is the Chocolate Lab that is always there to greet you.

Nice hotel, older with thin walls so a little noisy but overall well laid out. Very good restaurant overlooking the lake, great fish and chips and pasta along with free hot buffet breakfast every morning.

One of our favorite hotels in the Halifax area! It has free parking, wifi, a complimentary hot and cold breakfast, a pool and hot tub. The staff (desk and restaurtant) were very friendly and helpful. The pool is so clean but the hot tub could have been hotter. The room was a great size with a king bed which made for a wonderful sleep!!

My family had a wonderful night at the hotel. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great. The arcade room was an added bonus and the parking was super convenient! We will be back again soon.

The Hotel is in a nice cozy setting. With a full view of Chocolate late has a wonderful front desk and decor. The rooms are clean. The Breakfast and the restaurant is very nice. Just going to downtown, make sure you leave ahead of time as there is traffic entering the downtown and it may take some more time.

This hotel meets all my needs, clean modern rooms, warm shower, excellent complimentary breakfast, and great restaurant and bar! It's quite centrally located and only a $15 cab ride to downtown. Staff were super helpful and of course Aero gives the best welcome kisses!

Very clean hotel with great meals. This hotel was about a 15 minute drive to all the sites and restaurants downtown of course depending on the time of day. Theyvaccommodated our group of 50 people without any issues.

We visited Halifax n area for several days and decided to stay at a different place each night. This allowed us to get familiar with the local area several times. Chocolate lake was great. Economical yet having a spa and relaxed feel. In the north west Halifax area its close to great shopping and dining. Drivers can quickly access the route to Peggys Cove loop.. with its scenic views and choice dining. The hotel overlooks a small lake and provides exemplary food choices. Multiple patios and gardens. Pool plus hot tub as well as games rooms n video pinball etc.. we loved it. Definitely recommend... Sam, Gander, NL

I have been staying at the this hoitel since it was renovated many yars ago. It provides reliable quality at a reasonable price close to major venues in Halifax, with an excellent and convenient dining room.. Ove the tyears I have had the pleasure of recommending this B&W facility to many travelers to Halifax, and reports from friends and colleagues have never been dissapointed.

Was great stay. Clean friendly staff. Loved pool and hot tub. Our son couldnt swim he had cast was going IWK next morning after our stay. Was so cool that they have an Arcade . He was able to still have fun. We felt bad 3 of us got to swim he didnt it helped. Breakfast was amazing for free ..so many options. I have to bring my son back Feb thinking of booking again

This was our 2nd stay at Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake. We will be staying again in April. We go to the allergy clinic in Halifax every couple months and the location of this hotel is great and easy access to everything. It's away from the busy downtown which is nice. Also better price :)The amenities are awesome! Great pool, hot tub and even a decent size arcade room! The Lakeside Grill restaurant has great food at an affordable price. Also free breakfast buffet. The staff is excellent, very friendly!

Excellent service, super clean, and a great breakfast. Plus, a special location: It's lakeside, with a view of Halifax from the higher floors. If you go in winter, bring your skates. It's our go-to hotel for our annual visit home.

Had a top-floor room overlooking Chocolate Lake. Beautiful view. Breakfast was good, a variety of hot foods (scrambled eggs, a meat option, hash browns, etc.) as well as toast/bagel and cereal and fruit options. Friendly and helpful staff, and Aero the house Chocolate Lab is a beautiful mascot.

Excellent hotel. Great price! We have stayed here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed. Located minutes from downtown with easy access towards Peggy's Cove.I recommend this hotel for any type of gathering.Will be be back before too long.

My room did not have a microwave. I was in a Pet Room, so I don't know if that made a difference. Fridge was nice. When I called about the Heater issue, they were wonderful as the window unit thermostat was now on the wall. While I ended up staying to a total of four nights, each extension, a day at a time, they were wonderful about the continuation of my stay. Not having a microwave available, was not great. but, I was informed that there was a communal microwave available. As for the room, it was very nice, very clean. All areas of the room were very clean, (corners and baseboards). I was well impressed with the cleanliness. Because of my Pet, as well as being a Retired Hotel General Manager (of several levels of another Brand), I declined Housekeeping services. I needed nothing and made sure that my room was clean when I departed. I did not partake of the Free Breakfast, there was a personal reason, so I can not comment on that, but considering the quality of the room, I am sure that it was nice. Overall, I had a great stay. If we have another issue, in our home, that will require me to leave (and we may have), I will stay with your Brand again. Overall, my stay was exceptional, Thank You.

Stayed here during a hockey tournament with my boys and we couldn't have asked for a better place. The staff here were so friendly and so was Aero, the hotel's chocolate lab :) The amenities for kids was great!! They had a nice sized pool, hot tub, gym and even an old school arcade....the kids LOVED the arcade!!! The restaurant was absolutely wonderful. Service was great and the food was amazing!! You can't go to this restaurant without checking out the Lakeside Burger, so yummy!! Looking forward to our next trip to Halifax and Chocolate Lake!!

Very friendly staff. Great value for the money. We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past year and always find it to be a positive experience. I would highly recommend this facility to family and friends.

Just to be clear, I have zero input on the actual hotel as I didn't stay there. I hunted down this place in my search for an Arcade in Halifax and was not disappointed! Great selection of classic games including Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Mortal Kombat and more! Definitely worth checking out!

This is the perfect place to stay. Always very clean. very friendly helpful staff and the beautiful chocolate lab is always there to greet you. The pool was very cold and the hot tub was very hot. The lobby was nicely decorated with a beautiful Christmas tree and was very cheerful. Food and selection of the breakfast buffet was well presented and tasty.

Attended a company event that was held on the 3rd floor in the event room. Clean and inviting.Stayed for one night. Room could have been cleaned my thorough. Quiet. Inviting. Everything you need is in your room. Service by staff is excellent. Very pleasant to talk to, check in and out was a breeze!Overall-nice stay.

Great spot, great place for dogs, really good rates for the quality. Restaurant was really good. Nice decor good staff. Recommended for something near downtown with a nice view. For pets, there's a nice area to walk the dog, nice lab on site, no extra fees. Hard to beat for value or pet friendliness. Professional & friendly staff.

Our organization use the hotel on a regular basis. We continue to get high reviews from our the individuals we represent. The location is easy to get to and not far from shopping. Lots of parking with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Clean modern rooms for a reasonable price. Highly recommend the Best Western Chocolate Lake location.

This was our second trip. Still very happy with the hotel and staff. Our room was clean and unscented. I have horrible scent allergies and my husband always tells the hotel and both trips my room was perfect. I love the pool and the hot tub never fails. I love that there are adult hours for swimming. Breakfast is the best. Hot and a great selection.

My husband and I spent a night here while out of town. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay up until the morning we went to leave. Parking up front was taken, we were forced to park down below the hotel. Discovered our trunk window of our car had been smashed and we have things stolen. Front desk staff were accomadating and helpful - helped us clean the car and tape the hole closed. Disappointed nothing was offered except a "Sorry this happened." Cant see me staying here again, unfortunately.

Great stay great staff and great restaurant. Really enjoyed my week stay. The staff was top notch, the on site bar and on site restaurant were well above most hotels. I would highly recommend. I would also assume that having the lake right there would make for a great stay in the summer.

Renovations and painting! This is the memory we will have of our stay at Chocolate lake. Our room itself was nice. The bed was a little too firm for me as I like soft, but I slept ok. The bathroom in our suite was disappointing. The toilet and sink were so close together when I sat down I literally had to put my arm on the sink because there was no free space for it to go. The shower curtain was moldy with big black spots on it. The sink vanity had no top space so we could barely store our bathroom kits while using them. The room did have a very nice living area with a small sofa and chair and TV. We didn't find the furniture comfortable though so we watched TV in the bedroom area. The worst part of the stay however was the painting right outside our room for the whole time we were there (4 days). I have a very powerful sniffer and I could smell it in our room all night. Thankfully the windows opened so I had them opened during the day when we were there to try and relieve the smell. We were not informed upon check in that painting was happening in the hallways which I thought was very poor customer service. It's great that upgrades are being done, don't get me wrong, it's just nice to know ahead of time so you can adjust if needed or request another room away from the painting. We did make use of the Arcade game room in the hotel which was nice. I regret not checking out the pool, but it looked nice. There is a fitness room but it's not too big. We did use the guest laundry service which was 2.25 to wash and 2.00 to dry. They're standard size washers and dryers but work well and were great to have access to on our last day there. Breakfast is included in your room rate and it is a very nice set up. Nothing too fancy, but they have standard scrambled eggs, home fries, beans and a protein option, along with cereals, pastries, toast options and fruits.

Everything was very clean which I loved and the front desk dog, Aero, was so calm and cute. I had no issues during my stay and everything was very nice especially for the reasonable price. There weren't a ton of options for breakfast but it's free so what can you do.

We had the pleasure of traveling to Halifax for a sports camp. We were surprised and pleased with the service, comfort, and overall experience of Best Western Plus - chocolate Lake Hotel. Even the view from the restaurant and our room was amazing! The complimentary breakfast was AMAZING. So many options and cooked to perfection!

I had my wedding at the best western chocolate lake hotel August long weekend. Although I'm happy with my wedding day, the service at this hotel was so below average. First off, the coordinator really truly does not care about details. They knew in advance I was getting ready at the hotel with the rest of the bridal party. With the booking of the venue , the bride and groom receive the honeymoon suite. So because it was being used the night before, I ended up paying for an additional different room the night before my wedding so that I was able to arrive early to get ready for the full day. The hotel advise me I had to check out of my room at 2pm , while my ceremony was at 4. They really expected me to check out- without a room , half ready for my own wedding . Staff knew 2 months before that I was getting ready at the hotel for my wedding and never organized a room for me to do so lol ?.. I was left own my own to figure it out and ended up having to steal the best mans room . Next , the food menu on their wedding package provided was incorrect and no one told me in advance . The meal came on the table incorrect. The desert was described as topped with whip cream , and it came out without it. I emailed the coordinator a few days later to ask why the food was different from the menu she provided me and there was a serious lack of accountability. For anyone that is seriously particular about details and high quality service, I would highly advise they avoid booking their wedding at this venue.

Highly recommend we love the place and staff are always so friendly and helpful .Lots of menu choices and the food is awesome. Beautiful view of the lake while dinning on the balcony and in the dining room.

Suites are a great value for families and the discount because our granddaughter was heading to the IWK was definitely a deciding factor. The location was within easy distance of shopping, restaurants and of course the hospital. Thanks to all the staff.

Very good hotel. Clean and comfortable.I had fish in the restaurant that was delicious. Better than fish I had in Lunenburg. The hotel was full or we would have stayed longer. If I had a complaint it would be the limited t.v. Channels.

The hotel was adequate, the restaurant was quite good, although craft beer was expensive. There was a sag in.my bed which affected my sleep. The games room is a nice touch and added to the overall enjoyment

We booked her because they are pet friendly. We were very impressed with the staff hospitality. It was so cute that they gave our chocolate lab a doggy treat bag on check-in. It was much appreciated. My used to wife run a small hotel in Scotland many years ago and had provided the same sort of treats back then. The view out over Chocolate Lake was majestic with all the fall colors. Only a 15 minute drive to downtown Halifax. There is a bus stop just outside the hotel (if you didn't want to drive into town). Although the decor is a little tired and showing signs of age, our room was clean, comfortable and well laid out, with 2 queen beds, small fridge and a decent size LCD TV. There is plenty of parking available and a convenience store next door. The breakfast buffet was good, with a selection of hot and cold items. It was nice to see cranberry juice available and not just the usual orange or apple juice. Unfortunately due to me breaking my ankle 3 weeks ago and my wife having had surgery 4 days ago we weren't able to use the swimming pool or hut tub. We will make use of them next time we stay. We will definitely be back again.

My husband and I went to Halifax to visit my son. This hotel was great. Centrally located beside the lake that you can swim in. Staff were very pleasant and rooms were cleaned well. Beds (we had a king size) were very comfy. Had a great sleep. Stayed 5 days and will stay here again next year.

I stayed here last week while all other hotels downtown were gouging during the Canadian Diabetes Conference (seriously - one place wanted $800 for a quite room on the Tuesday night!). I weighed the pros and cons of the cab ride plus the wait in early morning traffic and it was a good choice. I found the hotel to be quite noisy and could hear folks walking above me, running in the hall etc. It was also a rather disjointed experience to find my room. Oddly located and out of numerical sequence. Found it, though! The room door was super tight as if it had become shifted in the jamb. I had to use force to pry open the metal on metal hasp. I was immediately struck by the overwhelming scent of "carpet Fresh" some such product and it stayed with me the entire night. It was unpleasant, although clean. I see reviews that the hotel is modern and I must say that this didn't apply to my room. It look ever and felt very dated, with add-ons over time, such as an unsquarely mounted TV. As per my title, It was good in a pinch, but certainly not a destination. Staff were super kind and easy to deal with, helpful. Since the restaurant was closing by the time I arrived, I was pleased to find a Subway next door, although for security reasons, the door was locked and I had to be buzzed inside. Not particularly confidence inspiring in terms of the location.

We stayed for two nights starting and ending our drive around the Cabot Trail. The hotel was in a quiet, residential area close to major highways. It was handy to go to Peggy's Cove/Lunenburg, airport and downtown Halifax (15 minutes). The room was spacious and clean, fairly basic amenities in the washroom, comfortable bed, quiet, non-smoking rooms. We had a lovely view of the lake. Free hot breakfast was provided as was adequate. This area served as their Grill Restaurant which we ate at the first night. Food was average and service was good. It was convenient after travelling all day.

The hotel is quite modern and located lakeside on scenic Chocolate Lake, about 10KM from central Halifax. It's in a quiet location with easy access to the highways into central Halifax, so very convenient to drive for local sightseeing and not far from Halifax airport and local shopping centres. The staff and very friendly and helpful and the included breakfast is quite good. Rodney at the small hotel bar was especially helpful in giving us advice for what to see in Halifax and the local area. We stayed here on arrival and the night before departure and would definitely stay here again.

The carpets were just replaced and the glue smell was very strong. They looked nice but the strong smell from the carpets that were just replaced was unbearable. A glue smell. I would not stay here again.

The Hotel is dated but clean. Did not have time to check out the pool or fitness center so cannot comment on that. The parking is unique ... not always able to find a space .. The Lounge /Restaurant/ and were good we only had the one meal on site. Did use the complimentary breakfast which was very good . My room was located above a wedding party going on which was i'm sure wonderful but for the quests that were placed above the venue party was not fun ....

I originally booked for a Fri & Sat. Cancelled the Fri and when I checked in Sat I was informed there was no reservation. Yes my bad for not verifying. The front desk would not even consider that the error wasn't mine. As a diamond member I used points for my stay. I paid for the room Sat night thinking it would be easy to get my money back and have the points used as I knew the error was theirs. Emailed a request to have the call reviewed and a week later got a response, confirming the agent error, only to be told they would put the points back and not refund the money. Had to argue that I wanted the money refunded. Was advised it was up to the hotel. I got another call back that they would use the points and I would have to wait at least 1-3 weeks to recieve a check in the mail they would NOT credit my credit card. So obviously the hotel refused to refund and it had to come from Best Western itself. Pretty quick to take the money off the card but unable to put it back? Unacceptable practise in 2018

I was in need of a place to stay for 5 nights because I had a medical treatment in Spryfield, NS. This hotel was nice, comfortable and close to where I needed to be everyday. Our room was nice, cozy and had everything I needed to store my food for the week. We did eat at the restaurant often for both our free breakfast and supper. The food was amazing.

The rooms were well furnished, the view over the lake was nice. By car access to downtown was quick, driving to Lunenburg was just an hour. The breakfast area was good, the food served okay for a "free" hot start to the morning. The front desk was very helpful in guiding us to restaurants and entertainment.

This hotel was basic but at a lovely location. The rooms we're dated but very clean. Reception could have been more friendly but we are used to Asia and the US where customer service rates higher I suppose . Not a bad place to stay for the money.

The lady at breakfast was not very friendly, I let her know "politely" that one of the coffee canisters were empty and she came over and tapped on the other two, "coffee, coffee", that's all she said. Then I filled my coffee cup and turned around to put milk in my coffee, which was on the opposite counter, the same woman, picked up my plate, put it beside me and said, "take your plate with you". Our 3 day breakfast experiences were not very fun.

We were very pleased with this hotel. It had lots of free parking and a great breakfast buffet was included with our stay. The hotel was clean and staff were very friendly. We would definitely stay here again on our next trip back to Halifax!

This hotel was nice. Parking is extremely bad...in that there is no place to park. Dining area was basically empty - -however they said that the kitchen was busy with other things and we would not be served dinner for 2 hours if we chose to dine in. We found that odd - -but walked to a small pizza place instead. Hotel was clean and accommodating . . lots of choices for breakfast and it was very filling.

Initially I WOULD have said it was a great hotel; HOWEVER, on my last day, there was an outdoor wedding, I had been sitting in the area beside the lobby for quite some time as the rest of my group were having trips out. One of the staff had opened the door into the bar area and there was a crosswind just blowing straight at me. I went over to close it and the "pillock" asked me if there was any reason WHY I had closed it. I told him that the wind was blowing directly over to me and I was freezing. His response was that they HAD to have both doors open when the bar was open. VERY UNSATISFACTORY. the outside doors were ALSO open, so I couldn't see any problem with evacuation if there had been a fire. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS.

Spent 4 days there recently. We were placed in a 'suite' room in the adjoining building. The room had obviously been redone and offered kitchenette facilities. The set-up was a bit awkward but it worked. It did not have a view of the lake but rather the parking lot. The room was clean and tidy. However, the hallways were filthy. The elevator needed a good clean as did the hallway to the hotel proper. The fan in the bathroom didn't work. The air conditioners were not functioning properly. One could not be turned off and one could not be turned on. The breakfast was good. The restaurant offered standard pub-type food and as the hotel also caters to bus tours there was often quite the wait for a table or a meal. Staff were friendly.

The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the hotel is a distance from downtown. You have to take 2 buses or a $15 cab ride. We ended up renting a car the last day, but otherwise it was a fabulous trip! Their breakfast is amazing and quite possibly the best potatoes I've ever had. The weather was great and we ate out on the deck overlooking the lake. Two weddings took place over labor day weekend and I can see why, the premises is pristine. The bus picks up right in front of the hotel which is nice and the transfer is easy, but it's about a 30 - 45 minute trip to get downtown and the buses stop running after midnight. Our room was great though, the beds are very comfortable, had a nice view and strong air conditioner. Room was cleaned while we ate breakfast and the staff was very helpful and accommodating in calling a cab and providing maps or bus information. I didn't use the basement facilities, but they had a gym, pool and game room. I had a wonderful stay!

Very nice classy hotel. I used Best Western points to stay here. Because of the currency exchange in Canada, the rates were considered good. The breakfast was excellent, the staff was very congenial, the bar was good and the rooms were very nice. I used the gym several times and it was very nice.

This is a nice quite spot by the lake. The rooms are clean , the staff is friendly and will to help out any way they can. I would recommend this hotel is you do not want to be right down town Halifax.

Hotel is great and in a prime location for seeing Halifax, They also have a great staff and the best Chocolate lab lobby dog ( Aero ) I have ever met. Great experience, great food and nice to have a room overlooking a nice little lake. Cheers from PEI.

The rooms met all our needs although I found them a bit cramped. Breakfast was average. Grounds are quite nice, and the restaurant was good to. We found the location rather isolated, but overall our stay here was pleasant.

This was our first visit to Halifax. This BW is located a few miles from the downtown core, so either a rental car or taxi service is needed if you want to visit the city center while you are there. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was good and the pool and hot tub were enjoyable. There's plenty of parking available all around the hotel. We would stay there again.

Pros: the property is on a lake and is beautiful Lovely restaurant on site with a patio that overlooks the lake The staff are wonderful,friendly and very helpful. Cons: the rooms are just okay. Bathrooms are dated. Not too far from downtown but you would need a car.

This hotel was GREAT we had two rooms one for us and one for our teenagers. The rooms are big and comfy. We stayed for 5 days. The beds are the very best. We had our cat with us and she was welcomed. The pool was fine. The breakfast was the best always hot. Very friendly staffs and the best thing was they had a dog a beautiful Chocolate Lab. If we go back to Halifax we will stay here again

Have stayed here many times, the location is good within minutes to downtown. The room is big and clean, employees are helpful. The breakfast buffet is good with lots of choices, definitely will come back again if I visit Halifax.

Stayed a couple nights - nice rooms - I would recommend - beautiful spot on lake. Parking is not a problem. Its a little ways from downtown water but not a big deal with car, Nice areas for walks - its about 15 min to downtown waterfront.

Check in was the only ok part of staying here 2 Queen Beds drive-up $249 +taxes, way too much for quality Did notice an odor when we entered the room but thought it was cleaners. Came back at midnight, smell was really bad, air conditioner was not working and the floor in front of the air was soaked. Called the front was offered a fan and Security to come look at it, wasn't a reset, we tried - told I should have reported it at check in. It was late, the kids were tired so said no to security. Asked for a discount at check-out and was offered only 15% after being persistent, couldn't do more as Manager wasn't there, told they only give the drive-up rooms when requested. Should not give them at all.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our Canadian adventure. It is easy to get to from Halifax airport and we have stayed here several times times over the years. There is always a warm welcome and although we arrived early there was no problem as our suite was ready and after a flight it was a welcome rest. Thank you again to all of the staff who were friendly and welcoming.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights while visiting the Halifax area. The hotel is just outside of the city so we had to drive downtown. This hotel is well appointed and kept up nicely. Our room was on the first floor so it was covenant coming and going. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was nothing special, but it was good. I would definitely recommend this hotel as long as you have transportation and are willing to drive to do any sightseeing or go out to dinner.

We had a great view of Chocolate Lake from our window and a 10 minute drive to events in Halifax. The guest laundry was unexpected, as we though we would be taking dirty laundry around with us during the road trip.

Perfect place for anyone that is taking there NCLEX exam in Halifax, the rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. only a 3minute~ drive for the NCLEX exam. staff are very friendly and helpful. overall this hotel is affordable and would recommend to anyone.

If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful location, you'll find it at the BW Chocolate Lake. The facility offers rooms with a view of the lake, and the restaurant patio overlooks the lake. Not only are the BW staff accommodating and friendly, the rooms are clean and well appointed. They even offer a choice of morning or afternoon room refreshing or simple towel and trash removal. Breakfast offers a variety of abundance and is refilled promptly.

The best place to stay in Halifax and the best breakfast in Canada. The rooms were clean and tidy and the front desk staff go out of their way to please you.There was a nice seating area next to Chocolate Lake, just to relax.

we have no real complaints. humans will be human and everyone there made us feel welcome and they tried in every way to accommodate us and solve any little difficulty we had. Nothing serious at all. The rooms were clean and comfortable, plenty of tv stations . a wonderful restaurant willing to accommodate food issues. Kind and patient service all around and we loved the dog that lives there. we are dog people and didn't bring ours but felt right at home with the one that was there and loved that others brought theirs .

Great place to stay with a view of the water. Front desk staff were excellent to deal with. Gave us lots of helpful hints and lots of direction. Our breakfast was excellent the next morning. We cant wait till our next ztay

We started and ended our bucket list trip to the Maritimes in Halifax and were pleasantly pleased with hotel. Staff were very pleasant and efficient and offered an upgrade from what we had booked upon our return at the end of our holiday. Included breakfast was good with a large buffet selection of options. The dinners we ate on site were moderately priced and very good. Access to downtown was very easy with our rented car as was finding out way around town as necessary.

we were there for a small vacation and didn't know for sure what motel to stay at so we took a chance with this one and we were very very satisfied with the staff at the front desk one of the workers name was Monique and she was very plesant the bed was very comfortable and the rooms were very quiet

We liked the hotel very much. Nice amenities, and very friendly staff. We especially liked Ryan in the lounge. Room is clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is good, but the chafing dishes do not seem to keep the food warm.

stayed two nights had two suites and guest had 10 other rooms booked great location, most staff very helpful, suite was great for wedding parties to get ready. beautiful view, some guests used the restaurant for supper and enjoyed it. morning breakfast was perfect, lots to eat, plenty of room to sit.

It's a typical Best Western Plus hotel. The free buffet breakfast was good and the rooms were well kept. Parking was good, staff was friendly and helpful. Downside:The pool area was a bit small & messy and the "kid curfew" was not maintained so a quiet swim after 10:00 pm was not happening... The hotel restaurant has a good selection of food for dinner and the prices are reasonable so it's a good place to go if arriving late into the city.

This hotel offers a whole lot for the price. We spent three nights here in the middle of a 24 day tour of Eastern Canada. This hotel has laundry facilities available, and some really nice touches like an included full buffet breakfast that is far above the standard free hotel breakfast. There is a games room (old school arcade) that my daughter loved. Some of the games need fixing, but the ones that work are fun. The fitness room is well equipped. There's also a pool and hot tub. The view of the lake is lovely, and the restaurant is good. Parking is free. There's a lot to love for this price. The hotel is a bit of a distance from the downtown harbor, which didn't bother us at all. We spent one morning there, and easily found parking. The other days we went to Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg so we didn't need to be downtown.

Clean and very comfortable with everything we needed! No complaints other than limited parking in the nights. Breakfast was was very good, we were impressed. Cameron at the front-desk was very professional and efficient with check-in !

Stayed for 4 nights in July. This modern hotel is located in the Armdale section of the city about 7 minutes drive from the Harbour front boardwalk. Pros 1. Value. Facilities vs price point is unmatched in the city for a hotel of this caliber 2. Excellent restaurant (decor & food quality), patio area with lake views. Food was good, nice selection of beers too 3. Breakfast buffet included with stay is excellent and includes hot/cold options 4. Pool & hot tub 5. Front desk are friendly & helpful Cons 1. Beds are on the firm side 2. Unusual parking setup made it a bit annoying coming in and out 3. Saturday's this hotel is popular for weddings, so parking is tight & elevators in high demand I would still ecommend.

Staff was very friendly, professional and helpful! Room was great, comfortable, clean, hot water, great wifi and a great view! Breakfast was good, crowed. I would definitely stay again, actually if I'm in Halifax again, I will stay here!

We stayed for 2 nights in July. This hotel is wonderfully re-done. The rooms are upgraded nicely, beds are very comfortable, and the view is stunning (ask for a lake view...so lovely). We had our 4 year old with us and we also enjoyed the indoor pool. They have an arcade by the pool but unfortunately we didn't have time to check it out. We had dinner in the restaurant and a free hot breakfast each morning. Both were positive experiences, although I did find the restaurant to be loud - I think the decor doesn't absorb sound. Regardless the food was very good. And if it's nice, definitely sit outside on the patio overlooking the lake! I highly recommend this location if you don't want to stay downtown.

Had a room facing the lake, gorgeous view. Buffet breakfast was delish. Rooms are cozy and up to date. LOVE the embassadog, Aero. Supper and drinks on balcony overlooking the lake, superb.Highly recommend.

Very helpful staff, nice pool and hot tub .Hotel is on a lake so great to sit outside by the water in Adirondack chairs. Great brakfast and game room for all ages. for supper had the fresh haddock. Unbelievable.

Check in staff friendly. Had to take a standard room. They are ridiculously small. There is not even enough floor space to open luggage without putting on bed. No luggage rack. AC was not in our control, drapes were blowing in like a flag all night. On the plus side complimentary breakfast was good.

We stayed there two days in July and we had a great experience. The rooms were great (some might find them a bit small) but it certainly met out needs. There was a pool there for the grandkids and the view of the lake in the evenings was an added bonus. I would definitely stay there again. I especially appreciated the breakfast. There was a vast assortment of items to choose from, they food was hot and fresh and there was plenty of it. Overall, it was a great experience.

Hotel is about 4km to downtown. We walked it one day (15km the whole day) we were in room 310 in the low rise section facing the lake stayed there from July8-12 room was very old carpets felt grimy One chair in the room, no paper pens, basic bathroom amenities. The good- breakfast was very good and you have to eat at the Lakeside Grill (which is where you'd eat breakfast) for dinner. Prices are reasonable food is very good, never had a bad meal. Service is great throughout the hotel and restaurant. I only give it a low rating because of our room

This hotel is pretty much just what you would expect from a Best Western. Comfortable clean rooms, good hearty food at the breakfast buffet, no wow factor, but that's OK. The buildings themselves aren't that easy on the eye but it does have a delightful lakeside setting which makes up for it, lovely in the sunshine. Be aware that the location of the hotel is a bit far from the centre of Halifax to quickly walk in (about 3 miles to the waterfront) so driving in or taking a bus would be the normal choice.

Second stop on a motorcycle trip around Nova Scotia. We got a room on the top floor and what a wonderful view of Chocolate Lake. The room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is a taxi ride to the ocean front but on the highway for easy in and out. They have a nice bar and restaurant on site. The checkin was fast and smooth and courteous. Motorcycle parking at the front entrance and very secure. We had no complaints with our stay.

Truthfully, I try to avoid Best Westerns because the properties vary so greatly: some can look fine but others, well . . . But, based on TripAdvisor reviews we made a reservation at the Best Western Plus in Halifax. We were very impressed!!! It was located on a lake and we had a great view from our room. Guests had access to the lake for swimming and kayaking. There was also a restaurant that served lunch and dinner. After staying there, we saw several more BW Plus along our way and they all looked good.

We just returned home from a weekend away at the Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake hotel. I have nothing but good things to say! Front desk staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and bed was comfortable. We ate at the restaurant and food and service were both fantastic. Complimentary breakfast was one of the best we've seen as far as selection goes. The views at this hotel are amazing with a lake right in the back yard and lots of outdoor seating. Pool and hot tub were clean and the games room had lots of arcade style video games to keep kids (big and small) happy. We will definitely be returning

This is an amazing place to stay in the summer. Price is great...rooms are decent but the restaurant and deck are amazing. Just outside downtown...I plan to stay here often. Staff are friendly, lots of locals drop by. IMO best kept secret in Halifax

Good location. Convenient both for accessing Halifax and for getting out and about. We had room 315 which was OK except that the air con for the group of rooms next to us was noisy though the night. Nice lake view. Breakfast was just about OK - limited choice of average quality. Dined twice with excellent service. Wifi very slow. Good parking. Not memorable but decent value.

We stayed for two nights, took advantage of the pool, the games room, the breakfast, and got a chance to meet Aero the lovely chocolate lab. The bed was comfy, the bathroo was small, but clean and easy to deal with. The only big issue was the super squeaky bathroom door.

Good staff, clean room, beautiful view of the lake, nice pool, and close to downtown. I'm quite happy with my choice to stay here, and would stay again. Only two small dislikes - our bed was supposed to be a queen, obviously hotel queens are smaller, but this one is so much closer to a double, and it sagged a bit toward the middle. The second dislike was when we ate at the restaurant here for dinner one night, there were no good seafood options, and the waiter took FOREVER to finish off our service once the mains were served.

Great location, close to everything we planned on visiting, very clean! Cameron at the front desk was absolutely incredible! Very friendly, informative, and helped us plan the rest of our trip. The hotel dog was a great touch and we will return!!

This is a really nice hotel with very helpful staff. The room was well equipped with sufficient space and a nice view of the (small) lake. The breakfast was pretty good (especially the cold options) and the restaurant served great food for evening dinner. What also was exceptional was the range of services there and we especially liked having a laundrette on site which was efficient and clean. We would certainly stay n the hotel again (in fact we chose to return there for the night before our flight home).

Good way to start your vacation in Nova Scotia. Near downtown. Quiet and nice facilities. Good beds, good size room with clean bathroom. The staff was good and helpful and there were elevators. I would definitely stay again.

4* - The Best Western Chocolate Lake Hotel is a few minutes from downtown Halifax. If you are looking for style/quiet/comfort within many out of town visitors' budget, this is the place for you. The hotel has lots of parking, overlooks the beautiful Chocolate Lake and the amenities are done right. The breakfast was above the average with hot and cold meal choices, very nice. Getting to the downtown Halifax is a bit of a pain, a very busy traffic circle at the bottom of the hill from the hotel can be challenging. Not sure if we would choose this hotel for our next visit, location was issue.

Very nice hotel. Comfy rooms, enjoyed dinner on the patio over looking the lake. Food was delicious and staff very friendly. A delicious breakfast is included with your stay as well as free parking. The breakfast buffet included a nice selection of hot foods such as ham, breakfast home fries, baked beans, scrambled egg, fresh fruit as well as fruit salad, yogurt, pastries, cereals and the ability to make your own toast. Coffee, tea and a selection of juice is also available. This hotel has a pool and games room but we did not use either one. Lots of lawn chairs to sit out and enjoy the view of the lake..

We had a long travel day from Phoenix and with airport delays arrived at the hotel around midnight. The Hotel gave us a car service they use that got us from the airport to the hotel in the rain. We were greeted with a warm smile and welcome. After a good night sleep (wonderful beds!) breakfast was more than substantial. We had rented a car in the City and the front desk was very helpful in showing us the efficient bus system to get downtown. We had happy hour and dinner the next night and dinner was excellent. Don't let the proximity from City center be a buzz kill. After a look at Chocolate lake at sunset during dinner and you will know it a a great location.

Easy access to the downtown (except during morning rush hour). Onsite restaurant is good. Staff very helpful and accommodating in fixing an error with our reservation. For best price, calling direct is likely a good idea.

Very nice hotel with parking included. 4 km from downtown. Hate the Halifax roundabouts esp to get to this hotel. Excellent service, rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable, included breakfast buffet which was very good and had lots of hot choices. A chocolate lab very well behaved named Aero was there to greet us and entertain us. A must if you are missing your pup from home. Pool area and games room too! Wifi was fast. We had a nice view of the lake. Lots of room in elevator.

Stayed for a two week trip and was extremely happy with the experience. I did not want the downtown rush and was looking for a relaxing property while working which was exactly what I found. The view of the lake from my room was spectacular and the grounds well maintained. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was very pleasant. Judy-Dawn, Ryan and Nathan more than made me feel at home in the lounge after a days work. I found the dinner menu, while some items were good, many entrees were dry. I would stay away from the chicken dishes. Other than some food disappointments I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a relaxing experience.

We stayed at Best Western Chocolate Lake for two night in June, 2018. The checkin process was efficient and the clerk was warm and friendly. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with the necessary amenities such as fridge, wifi and coffee maker. The view out our 9 th floor window was spectacular, overlooking the lake, and surrounding neighbourhoods. Breakfast included hot and cold buffet foods with gluten free items ( eggs and sausages) clearly labeled. For the first time in a long time I was able to enjoy a full hot breakfast. I really appreciated that special touch. We were very close to down town Halifx which made heading down to the docks, shops and restaurants so easy. We are heading around the Maritimes but hope to stay one more night here before we head home. It was one of our best stays.

Stayed 3 days in a suite for a family wedding. The room was clean, nicely furnished, 80's style, ALL public areas, the reception, the restaurant, the changing rooms for the pool have been updated. The hotel's BEST ASSETs are THE STAFF and covered patio overlooking the water, grassy walking area. It's a beautiful hotel, Chocolate lake is a popular swimming late for locals, you can see a beach across the lake, clear water. The amazing breakfast options are bountiful, the pool and hot tub aren't as big as the pictures but are NICE and clean. The exercise room and games room had many options. The business computers are easily to find/use. The restaurant serves food till 10pm, GOOD food too. We had many questions, needed a few extra chairs for the room and ALL staff cheerfully encouraged us, made us feel like FAMILY. We had a family injury prior to arriving for our stay and the hotel supervisor assisted us by making sure we were on the main floor. My neice's wedding went smoothly getting ready here, we had fun with Aero, Not an expensive hotel for Halifax, BOOK VERY EARLY. THANK YOU VERY VERY VERY MUCH!

The staff were very helpful, courteous and friendly at Chocolate Lake, especially Aero the chocolate Labrador who seems to be in charge of reception. The rooms were clean and comfortable but the bathroom was pretty small. Avoid 4th floor rooms on the lake side as they have the main hotel air conditioning units immediately outside the windows so you cannot open the windows without being deafened. If we had known and hadn't just flown in late at night, we would have asked to be moved. The breakfast buffet was acceptable but uninspiring. Dinner was certainly fast food rather than fine dining but good fast food served efficiently and the menu had a good selection. The hotel is a bit out of central Halifax but you can get a bus into the city if you don't want to drive. The hotel is certainly popular and busy and we enjoyed our stay.

I have stayed in newer hotels and fancier hotels. I loved the food and the warm friendly service. The old school arcade was so much fun. The lake is beautiful. The location is well suited for exploring the lighthouse trail or driving downtown. Shopping is a couple blocks away. I want to come back.

We always stay here. And recommend any to stay. Everyone is friendly. Rooms are clean. The view of the lake is gorgeous winter or summer. The breakfast is amazing and great selection. The on site restaurant has many items to choose from there fish and chips are amazing.

We stayed at the Chocolate Lake Hotel as it was conveniently located. The room was of ample size and clean. However the breakfast was poor - stale croissants and tasteless scrambled eggs and potatoes. The tables were not cleared promptly perhaps indicating staff shortages or lack of training. Overall, very disappointing for the price charged.

We are checking out today and are sad to move on to our next destination. From the accommodation of an early check-in after an exhausting redeye flight in, to the absolutely incredible restaurant service and superb Michelin star worthy food- this has been the nicest hotel experience - ever. ??????????

We stayed the 25 and 26 of May, We had a very quick check in. room was clean and bright. We were planning on staying just one night at this property then book a room in downtown Halifax, but after our first night we liked it so much we decided to stay for both nights, Had Dinner in the Bar, Fish and chips were amazing as well as the Burgers. Buffett Breakfast was plentiful and well organized, There was a staff member replenishing food as it needed. The Bartender Ryan was very pleasant and was a great bartender. we would recommend this Hotel.

Ryan the bartender was fantastic and has a super clean bar that shines like crystal! So clean you could see your own reflection in the glasses. Great service and a very fun night. Drinks were great and the company was even better.

Nice area, about 10-15 minutes into downtown. We were upgraded to 9th floor with lake view. Amazing view, breakfast is complimentary and we sat in the patio, another amazing view of the lake. I would return to this hotel if I visit Halifax again. Bed is confortable and modern.

Visiting family and a night out at Scotia Bank Center .We always stay at Chocolate Lake ,great staff ,nice CLEAN rooms and good rates.The restaurant always is top notch. Always use the pool and hot tub they are very clean and well maintained. Ongoing upgrade work being done while we stayed there . the new carpeting is looking great.

Great location on the water. Really nice staff. Bar and restaurant is also worth checking out. No surprises with the room, firm matteress, water pressure in shower was also good. Lot's of free parking.

My family and I stayed here when we were in the Halifax area for a sports competition with our little girls. I was a little hesitant to stay at another Best Western Plus after staying at another one recently and having a smaller hotel room than what you would get in NYC. However, this Best Western was a wonderful surprise. It's right on the lake and our spacious room had a water view. It also had an old school arcade that my kids loved and that had me playing Pac-Man for the first time in 30 years. The pool was a decent size and it had a hot tub. The lobby area is spacious and has lots of seating along with more water views. And they have a brown lab as a hotel dog that just makes you feel at home. The bar and restaurant were also a nice surprise, with great craft beers on tap, delicious appetizers, and even more water views. We loved our stay and would stay here again the next time we are in the area.

Breakfast was awesome - hashbrowns, sausage, toast, cereal, french toast, fresh fruit and I am sure there is a lot I am forgetting! Rooms were nicely decorated and the staff was awesome. There is a few places nearby if you need anything and it is walking distance to Halifax shopoing center.

The good news: the beds are pretty comfortable, with decently firm mattresses. My shower worked well with instantly hot water. The free breakfast was actually not bad, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they offered hot dishes and not just loads of carbs. The bad news: it is noisy. The walls and doors seem to be paper thin so you can hear everything around you. Everything. Especially noises from the hall, including the slamming of doors and every conversation. You can also hear lots of noise from the rooms around you, especially those above you. The antiquated heating/cooling units are incredibly loud. You might actually find this a good thing since it will drown out the other noises. Regardless, it is noisy. The mediocre: The rooms are not well ventilated, so they always smell a bit of cleaning product. The furniture is really old, with drawers that don't close properly.

This is a nice hotel, the entrance is very well decorated and very welcoming. The handicap room was very adequate. The breakfast buffet was very extensive with a good variety of choices including warm dishes.

Stayed here for 4 nights, room was very clean, parking easily accessible for a large pickup truck, staff friendly and accommodating. We had stayed one night at a downtown 4 star hotel, moved out because it was dingy and dirty, and came here instead. Saved $50 a night and were much more comfortable. Would recommend this hotel any time.

A good place to stay, nice grounds to walk around on, a quiet place, outside check in area could have more room for more than one vehicle at a time or parking so you can go inside to check in, it was not to far from the hospital where we had to be for a 7 am for surgery.

My wife and two daughters and 2 other family members stayed there this past weekend for 1 night. The location is pretty good in close proximity to shopping etc. The room seemed clean. The restaurant has amazing food at great prices and the free breakfast was excellent. The pool was in a small room with low ceiling. Exceptionally strong smell of chlorine and seemed to be over chlorinated. Parking was perfect, and the games room was a decent touch. The only drawback is that we all ended up with serious sinus congestion and allergy symptoms even though none of us have allergies. I wonder about the cleanliness of carpet or ventilation system in this building. I would stay there again and recommend it to others but my next stay in the city will probably be closer to the water front.

Great location and good parking. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. Good hot breakfast comes with your stay. It is worth paying a few dollars and overlook the lake from the tower. If your phone doesn't do an auto wake up, the front desk is very obliging. They also have a large chocoate lab called 'AERO who is extremely friendly'.

One of the nicest places we've stayed in for years. Great breakfast. We go to Halifax at least twice per year and the quality of places we've stayed in on the road and in Halifax has been variable. This place was a gem.

Great location, very clean. Staff was very helpful and they have the cutest dog. The price was great as well. The room was clean the right temperature and had enough towels and pillows. There is a great view out the back

Kudos to the housekeeping department! I usually don't stay in hotels with carpets because i tend to get rashes and allergy from dust, but so far (2 weeks into my 3-week stay) everything's been great. And perfect bed everytime i come "home" The kitchen has all the small appliances you'll need. Loving the huge T.V. I love that it's pet friendly, because i get to see dogs from time to time. It makes me feel at home even more.

Pros - Check in was efficient and the young man behind the desk was very friendly. Was a problem with my rewards card so he nicely explained what I should do. Number 2, room was clean, asked for 2 queen beds, which I got, bathroom was well stocked and had a fridge. Number 3, guy at the bar was also very friendly. And lastly, food was good, bit pricy, and wasn't.too long after u ordered. Cons- tv in room was very confusing. Channel4 was the guide, well so we thought. When u pushed the channel u wanted to watch a different program came on. Was also a channel guide in the room . Took it down to the desk and guy said to ignore the guide on the tv. So, was very hard to know what was on as there was no program guide to go by. Number 2. First hotel I have stayed in where there was no PPV. Even renting a movie or 2 would had been nice. Number 3. Hot tub was out of order. Was looking forward to soaking in it. All and all my sister in law and I enjoyed our stay. This hotel is close to shopping center which is why we stayed here. Buffet breakfast is great.

Checking the room and found out it is very nice and clean. But my problem started when I was trying to find the change room to go into the pool. I took a wrong turn but when I found the correct direction I had to go down a set of steps but as doing so I fell and twisted my knee. It didn't hurt that much at the time but 2 hours later it was murder. I went to the dollar store and got a heating pad. I went to the front desk to have it heated up but they said they couldn't. I told them what happened and they were not concerned at all... didn't want my room number or if there was anything they could do for me and didn't want to make out a report....so at the very moment I am sitting in the room trying to use the coffee maker to heat the heating pad. Is this sad or what. I would like to give a better rating but in to much pain

Clean and comfortable rooms. The breakfast buffet had a lot of variety and was decent quality with some gluten free options. Salt water pool was fantastic! The pool and hot tub were in separate areas and very cleanly.

Exceptional hotel, friendly staff, amazing restaurant, clean and comfortable rooms. Definite home away from home feeling with every stay. I have tried several different hotels and have come to the conclusion that Best Western is the BEST choice and will be my only choice with future visits to the city.

I stayed due to the excellent CAA price and the no fee charge for having my dog accompany us on a brief overnight trip to Halifax. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet had good variety and was tasty and fresh. I was also pleasantly surprised by the quick commute to downtown Halifax during a high traffic period. Definitely would stay here again and would also recommend to others. Great value. :)

A little dated, but clean and friendly staff. Really good restaurant. The restaurant is worth a visit alone. Exit door at one end of hotel unlocked all night. Asked the front desk about it and told it should be locked by 11. It had a card swipe, so not sure why it needed to be unlocked. Traffic was intermittent throughout the night. Not sure why people would access a hotel, throughout the night, through a remote unsecured entrance? Go figure. Would have slept better without the banging exit door being open and closed throughout the night.

We had just stayed here from Wednesday March 8th 2018 to Saturday March 11th 2018 and my family and I had an amazing stay at this hotel. We were only planning on staying for 2 days but we couldn't get enough of it so we extended our stay for an extra night! There is a game room which we used and it was very fun. There was also a pool which also used. Our room we had was very nice and clean, the staff were very kind and accommodating to meet our needs. The breakfast was also very good. This was our second time staying at this hotel, we would stay here again in future 100%. One of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.

This hotel had reasonable rates as well as up to date rooms and a good restaurant with reasonable prices. Staff were very accommodating and check - in was fast and friendly the street was quiet with a convenience store next door.,

At one time I book a 2 room suite with Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel. When I got there, they upgraded me to the honeymoon suite for the same price that I was already paying. This room would have cost me an extra $70. nice savings. The staff do everything in there power to make your stay as comfortable as possible wail you are there. A1 Hot free breakfast every morning to complement your stay. I have stayed here a few times and have never been disappointed with anything I can think off.

The service standards provided by the staff to their guests was absolutely phenomenal; space to take our dog for a walk; clean room; fast response to our requests & let.s not forget that incredible restaurant.....very professional waiters & food that pleased the palate wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy beyond our expectations...in fact..we didn't dine anywhere else.

It was a convient location and the hotel service was very good. Taxi service was available right from the hotel, which wAs nice. Breakfast could use some improvement. I am glad that pets are welcome as that is why we use Best Western Hotels.

Great hotel. Very comfortable bed, good breakfast and lovely staff. Will be back. Bathroom a little on the small side but perfectly manageable. No laundry room which was a shame so I found a good local Laundromat instead.

Initially a business trip but the standard of service has meant that every time we travel to Halifax we aim at staying at Chocolate Lake. We had some friends visiting and we needed to stay overnight and both Jeremy and Matt worked really hard to find us accommodation on the night that we needed. Most Impressive and gratifying. I should also mention the fact that on our second, second only, visit we walked in and up to the desk and Jeremy greeted me by my name! How is that for great customer service? The rooms are always immaculate totally refurbished and very pleasing. Heating /AC work well. I like the fact that are sheers on the windows and curtains that can be closed. Also there is a very easy guide to the television channels that are available should you wish to use it. Very interesting menu in the restaurant with delicious food, well prepared, interestingly presented and once again excellent customer service here - attentive,and friendly without being intrusive. Breakfast staff certainly keep up the customer service standards tradition and replenish items in the buffet style presentation as necessary. Views are magnificent especially when you get the opportunity to eat on the deck or at a lake facing table in the rustic dining room. The lake is definitely used we saw two people swimming width and lengths of the lake while we ate breakfast. Overall most enjoyable stays and certainly well worth 5 (or more) stars and Yes we do recommend Chocolate Lake Hotel to family and friends.

Due to work commitments I stayed at this hotel for 9 days. One of those nights the "storm of the century: hit with winds of 140km and sheeting rain. Had a problem with the bathroom vent but once it was brought to the attention of staff, my room was changed immediately without any issue. Matt of the front desk was always greeting me when he saw me. The rest of the staff were very cordial and hospitable. Unfortunately the breakfast got boring after the third day. The restaurant food was fantastic. My compliments to the chefs. That is another review. Overall a great stay,

Our room was on one of the top floors and the view of the lake was absolutely breathtaking! The staff was very kind and it was only a very short cab ride into the downtown area of the city. I would most definitely stay here again.

The place is central to all your needs. "Aero", the chocolate lab greets you at check in. He is very docile and kids love him. Your hotel stay includes a full hot breakfast. The hotel has a full restaurant with great views of the lake. Each room has its own AC/heater and a window opens as well.

Just outside of downtown Halifax, a great hotel to stay as couples or families. It backs onto a little pond. The restaurant inside is delicious, not one bad meal while there, breakfast, lunch and dinner's. Breakfast was included.

The Best Western Chocolate Lake exceeded our expectations in all areas. Our room was comfortable, the restaurant was superb and had ample seating; a delish hot breakfast was included with our room. The staff are excellent. It will be our go to hotel when in Halifax.

We always use this hotel when in Halifax because of the quality of service, facilities and its location, on the shore of Chocolate lake. It's easy to access ,close to downtown and the staff and service are consistently very good..

Every time we spent the night in Halifax this was our hotel of choice. Staff is excellent and so is the service. Breakfast is great and so is free parking. It is conveniently located to do all your shopping needs. We had done our shopping during the day and we went out for New Year eves party

$122 for tiny room, but was warm, clean, no strong smells, with a fridge and a bathroom. Was travelling for medical purposes. Had medical appointments early over 3hrs from home, and needed a driver due to type of procedure. This is pretty much the best I could do online. I still dislike online booking, but it seems difficult to get a room otherwise. Most websites don't ask about the things I care about. Online hotel booking sites ask number of adults, not number of beds, they ask about cable TV, and I care more about scent free and the fabric of the bed sheets (memory foam and foam rubber are my mortal enemies). A fridge and a way to make my medicine (medicinal tea) are also helpful and hard to find. I really miss talking with a real live person.... This time of year the roads can be bad, vehicles can suffer mechanical issues, and people get the flu, all of which could have made for an even more awkward trip as there was only one bed, but two cost more so I took the risk. All and all, healthcare costs in Nova Scotia especially if you live outside of the metro area.

We booked this hotel because it was centrally located and had a lot of amenities and services, including complimentary hot buffet breakfast, non-smoking rooms, free parking, free high speed internet, exercise room, and indoor pool. During our stay, we found the room to be clean, spacious and quiet. The queen size bed was a bit soft for us but it was comfortable enough. Downtown Halifax was about 10 minutes away by car. We stayed three nights here, using the hotel as a base for visiting sites in and around Halifax and along the south coast of Nova Scotia. If in Halifax again, we would come back to this hotel.

Room was clean and roomy, on the top floor overlooking the lake. Good selection for breakfast, could be a bit busy at certain times due to coach tours. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Parking at the hotel was not an issue. Too far to walk into the centre of Halifax and when we were there roadworks were underway so the local bus was diverted. Option was to drive in and find somewhere to park or to get a taxi. Overall a good hotel which we would use again if we were in the area.

Great hotel for travelling with dogs, although no doggy bag when we arrived (treats, poo bags etc) but still easy and no extra charges. Breakfast was included and standard buffet stuff, nothing amazing. Dinner was good, great service, although main course was a little slow to come out.

My wife and I celebrated 26 years of marriage with a stay at the Best Western Chocolate Lake. We were met by the staff with congratulations and lots of smiles; we felt very welcome. In the room, they had given us an anniversary card. So very thoughtful. You can see the place had undergone a renovation. There is a pool with hot tub, a fitness room that was nicely appointed, and a full games arcade. Most of the time, we were in our room; it was very comfortable and clean. Unlike many places in this price range, the bedding was premium and the pillows didn't go flat in seconds.

The hotel is in a convenient location outside of downtown. Very friendly check-in and check-out staff. Our room was clean and spacious. The view out to the lake was fantastic. There was no outside noise. Unfortunately one night we had quite noisy neighbors. Slamming doors, loud talking in the hallway. Of course that is not the hotel's fault. Just a pity that there are people who are not considered about other guests. The breakfast had a good choice and a large variety and was good. There were a lot of people at breakfast, sometimes a bit crowded at the buffet. Very nice sitting outside on the patio.

The rooms at the part of the hotel we stayed in are old and need painting and carpet needs cleaned, the sofa has seen better days. I know I stayed on points and it was free. But as a first time guest, we will not be staying ever again.

Staff throughout the hotel was great, cleanliness of the front lobby was good, breakfast was organized and looked fantastic, cleanliness of the room was alright, bed wasn't the greatest. Overall for the price its not a bad hotel but for a longer duration I wouldn't recommend it.

I always stay at the Best Western Chocolate Lake when in Halifax. It is my home away from home. The staff are great and the hotel is always clean. The location is very good, just outside of the downtown area.

Overall the hotel was great, some background noise from being close the elevator but overall not too bad. Stayed twice within two months and both times was happy with the price and staff. Bar/Grill was a great asset as it gave great prices for supper meals. Carpet a little worn in the second stay but manageable.

This is comfortable hotel with good rooms and an excellent breakfast area. The room we had overlooked Chocolate Lake so we had a very nice view. Parking is available on site. The staff (at least most of them) are welcoming and helpful. My only issue was trying to find the hotel. Because of construction on St. Margaret's Bay Road this summer it was difficult to find access to the hotel. We had to phone for directions (as did others I found out) and when I checked in the clerk indicated I was some sort of dimwit for not being able to follow the detour signs - the ones out on the highway with no lane markers that just said "detour"!

Always have a great stay at this hotel. Had an issue on arrival which was promptly and courteously rectified. Great service and friendly atmosphere. Greeted with a smile on arrival. Complimentary breakfast was excellent as usual. Will definitely stay there again!

Great hotel. Arcade, pool and gym, free wifi to entertain you if you are staying in. Breakfast, Restaurant and over all hotel is great. Gas station and Subway next door to hotel for even more convince.

Room was very clean & well equipped. Hotel seems to have been renovated recently, room was very modern & well laid out. Bed & Pillows were so soft & comfy. Staff were excellent, very very helpful & professional. Free Breakfast was pretty good. Best part of the hotel was an actual video game arcade downstairs. Pool & Jacuzzi were clean & well equipped. Overall, had a great stay.

I've stayed at the Best Western Chocolate Lake a few times while in Halifax for business or with my family. Every time I've been there, I have found the hotel and the staff to be excellent. I like the location (close to amenities) and it has become my go-to hotel when I'm in Halifax. I have (and will continue) to recommend to friends, family, and colleagues.

Hotel stay was nothing extraordinary, very basic, staff didn't go out of their way to be hospitable. Okay room, great breakfast and pool. Construction on hotel road really put a damper on the stay, wish I had been notified. Experience was “meh”

i like this hotel overall. it is a popular place because of lakeside location. bathrooms are very small, but not much to be done there. this was an old Howard Johnson Hotel that got bought up by Best Western and renovated after the hurricane in 2003 i think it was. they did a great job renovating, but hotel is now beginning to show its age again. still a nice place to stay. great inclusive breakfast. montreal 2017.

We recently enjoyed a wonderful six night stay at the Chocolate Lake Hotel. Although our queen bed room did not have a view of the lake, we were given a room on the 9th floor with an nice view of the surrounding neighbourhood. Free, onsite parking was greatly appreciated. The room was nicely appointed with good quality linens, and a very comfortable bed. Everything was very clean and the friendly housekeeping staff kept it that way. The complimentary hot breakfast buffet was very generous with four hot choices each day, as well as pastries, juices, cereal, fruit, a u-toast bread station and good coffee. It was available each day from 6:30 am to 10:00 am. We enjoyed two evening meals in the dining room and found the food to be delicious and the service was exceptional. Special kudos to our server, Nathan, who added his personal warmth to his knowledge of the menu to ensure that our dining experience was truly wonderful! The pool, hot tub and games arcade were a real hit with younger family members. But, the stand out experience of our visit was the genuinely warm welcome and service we received from each and every staff member we encountered....right down to the wonderful hotel dog, a chocolate lab named 'Aero'. This will definitely be our 'go to' accommodation on future trips to Halifax.

I spent two weeks at the Best Western Chocolate Lake when my company helped me move to Halifax. The staff was polite from start to finish, the continental breakfast with a view of Chocolate Lake wa sunforgettable, and the fitness room was well equipped. There's a even an arcade with dozens of old-school video games! I didn't try the pool but it looked clean and was never too busy. My stay wasn't perfect - there wa sa mysterious vbuzzing noise in the first room they gave me but when I mentioned it, they transferred me to another room immediately. And the TVs are kind of strange - there are no obvious on-off buttons, the channel selection is limited and the remotes twice stopped working. But when I mentioned this, a customer-service worker came to my room right away and changed the malfunctioning remote. Customer service at the hotel was top-notch and consistent. Room cleaning was punctual and frequent, and the entire hotel was very clean. The Maritimes are known for their charm and pleasant people, and I experienced plenty of that at the Best Western Chocolate Lake. I would definitely recommend the hotel.

I recently came to visit my grandkids and we stayed for 2 nights. The restaurant was fantastic. The room was good. Location was super and service also perfect. I recommend it for business or pleasure.

The hotel has an Arcade! It was awesome it, my daughters and I had a blast. Great place for families and pets. The hotel was so nice my daughters loved it we had a great stay and will stay here again. The hotel is crazy quiet there were hockey teams from a tournament staying there and even though the hotel was pack our room was so quiet. Great place, great value

A weekend alonewas exactly what the doctor ordered. It was quiet, peaceful and relaxing. The hotel was clean and cheery The staff were excellent. Breakfast was delicious. Thanks to everybody. The construction on the road outside with the only downfall. It made things hard to get around.

Booked in based on Trip Advisor Reviews and was not disappointed. Nice Rooms but the best part was the breakfast and eating outside on the Veranda overlooking the lake (it was summer). 10 mins drive from the center of Halifax. Would definitely recommend it.

We have been staying at this Best Western during the last 12 months while visiting our children who are going to school in Halifax. Our son is at Waverly Fire fighting school and our daughter is going to St. Mary's University. This BW is located between both of them and next to the Halifax Mall as well as Bayer's Lake Shopping district. We will be staying here again on our next trip in Jan '18 to see our son graduate! and to see our daughter.

Happy with this hotel. Comfortable, reasonable price, friendly and efficient staff. Sometimes groups staying there can be noisy. But good value for money. Free breakfast is as expected for a free breakfast - acceptable but nothing special.

We've gone to the BW Chocolate Lake for several years now whenever we visit Halifax. Mostly because they are pet friendly and a good hotel for the value, and in a good location. Starting to look a little tired though so hopefully they'll spend some time on paint.

How can a 4 star hotel, feel like a mental hospital, television cut to the basics, clearly not for anyone staying for more then a night, actively cheap at every turn. garbage. feels like a bare bones flop, costs like a real hotel.

This place goes above an beyond to help people out. When we had gone there it was for medical reasons for me do to location. The food in the dinning room is to die for and pricing is not bad. It is an old building but they seem to be trying to keep it up too standards, which are way better than some of the others.

The hotel was very well clean and tidy, the room was a nice size with a great view of the lake. The restaurant was very nice with great food. We would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend it to anyone. There was ample free parking and a very good free breakfast.

Overall, a nice enough hotel, but even if everything else had been fabulous, there was one thing that really lowered our opinion of the hotel: the carpet in our room and in various hallways around the hotel desperately needed to be restretched. Our room had a pretty significant carpet buckle in the open area, so much so that I tripped over it several times in the middle of the night. It just spoke of a lack of pride in the property, in my opinion. The room itself was very spacious, the bed was comfortable, but with small pillows - seemed smaller than standard size, on a king-size bed. The bathroom was compact, and the tub had a really high side that made getting in and out of the shower an issue for shorter people - like, it was several inches higher than the commode. As someone else mentioned, that room smelled very strongly of some kind of artificial smell, maybe like a talcum. We opened the window, but it did little to dissipate the odor. Noise from the hallway was quite loud compared to other hotels, and it seems like the doors and/or walls aren't well-soundproofed. Of the seven hotels we stayed in this trip, this was only one where hall noise was pronounced and bothersome. I found the front desk people to be somewhat aloof; they all seemed to avoid eye contact with people passing by, which was unusual and noticeable to us. We also got bad advice from them twice, once in regard to what direction to head in for a place to eat, and again in not knowing about about a major event in the downtown area with regarded to parking and traffic. These are things we've always expected and gotten from front desk personnel in other areas we've stayed. Thankfully, there was a large section in the newspaper about it, so we found out to avoid the area. The included breakfast was a highlight, and the personnel in the restaurant were pleasant and efficient. Despite the pluses, I can't recommend this hotel.

Amazing Hotel! I have never felt so welcome. The room was very clean and comfy and the restaurant and bar staff made you feel at home. The is food delicious. And the big treat....the view! What a beautiful relaxing place. You have to stay here! I will be back.

We requested a quiet room on the lake side of the hotel. Upon opening the door of the room, we were met by a powerful odor of carpet / room deodorizer which did not fade, even after 2 hours with window fully open. Scent only masks dirt temporarily. Our window overlooked a roof deck, where a massive a A/C unit ran to service the whole building. We were faced with a choice of fresher air or trigger breathing problems with the foul scented air. The aged a/c unit within the room was very noisy when running intermittently all night long. There were limited controls and instruction and no matter what we did with the room air vent system, we were unable to get fresh/clean air. Turning this unit on in an attempt to get fresh outside resulted a more concentrated cloud of the masking agent (powder). When my husband asked for a different room, etc. We were told they were fully booked, no other rooms available. If the hotel needs to mask the odors of old carpets, pets, smoke, etc. they might keep those rooms vacant until the smell of the deodorizer has faded or use a better product. We both suffer from environmental allergies to scents like this but have spent more that 2,000 nights staying in hotels on 3 continents. We have stayed in properties from 1 star to 5 star. The only thing we need and expect is a clean room with a decent bed and fresh air. We booked in advance, BW have our details including credit card. We called Hotel to advise that our arrival would be delayed, friendly desk person said no problem. What they should have said is that we will give you the best of our last resort rooms (location & bad carpets). We have recommended this property multiple times to others and in past years it appeared in good condition for an older property. In fairness it's the end of the busy summer travel season but things need sprucing up. Some of the nicer hotels in the Halifax area have put laminate wood flooring in guest rooms. Wise idea in a moist coastal climate....

This is the second time I have stayed at the hotel and really enjoyed it. I stayed in one of the suites which are located in their own area which was very quiet. The bedding was very comfortable. They have a free breakfast buffet which covers most of the bases. I ate at the restaurant for dinner one evening and the food was quite good. The service in every department was extremely helpful and friendly. It was also an honour to meet their in house chocolate Labrador retriever. The location is on beautiful Chocolate Lake. It is not located downtown but that suited me as it was quiet with no car or loud sounds from partiers out on the streets. Nice pool and hot tub.

The hotel room was spotless. The restaurant on site served delicious meals. The inference rooms on the 3rd floor were spacious, well laid out. Catered food was fresh and plentiful. Quiet and peaceful. Rooms overlooked a lovely lake. There was an outside patio for warm weather.

I would highly recommend a stay here if you are travelling to Halifax. If you don't have cause to stay here because you are already living in the area I think you must treat yourself to the shrimp bruscetta and the panko crusted halibut. We spent two weeks travelling through Nova Scotia and those were two of the best things we ate during our stay. all of the hotel staff were friendly, polite and professional and helped to make our stay enjoyable.

It was a fun place to be with lots of other guests, great food and a friendly atmosphere. Staff are professional and look after you. We did like also the 9 month old chocolate lab behind the counter. He sure did attract lots of good attention from other guest especially the young ones. I would highly recommend this hotel and cann't wait to return when I have more time to enjoy my stay.

very clean, quiet,staff very polite. Had an a/c issue, when we mentioned it to front desk, they sent someone up within minutes. Overall pleasant stay, close to shopping malls. If there was a negative, didn't care for sausages for breakfast but really enjoyed hash browns.

complimentary upgrade for diamond member was fantastic. Breakfast was typical breakfast buffet but food was good. Arrived in breakfast room just before cut off and staff was very prompt at shutting down.

Hotel was ok stayed in the king suite was honestly the worst suite we have ever been in. The bathroom was smaller than you would expect in a 1 bedroom hole in the wall apartment shower was tiny furniture old and creaky bed hard and uncomfortable. Ate at the restaurant though and it was some of the best food i have ever had. Will return to go to the restaurant but never stay in the hotel again. Nice pool and jacuzzi. Suite was way to much money for what it was

Just stayed one night. Good quality for price. Staff friendly. Close to Bayers Lake park, downtown and Halifax shopping centre. Construction on St. Margarets Bay Rd was a bit of a problem unless coming from Armdale Rotary.

If you are looking for a well-maintained, reasonably-priced hotel for business or leisure, you can't go wrong with the Best western at Chocolate Lake. Staff was efficient and courteous. The included breakfast was crowded, but well-presented and ample.

Not the most up to date BW, but still in range with quality considering the sector and the age of the constuction. Nice lake view. Restaurant is nice and good. For me the only down side is the sector it is in and it is older than many other BW. Bed comfortable, room was fine, but a little noisy in the section I was in, ... hallway with alot of circulation and a big gap under the door lets the noise in.

The bathroom is smaller than on a cruise ship. Don't sit down on the toilet too fast or you'll end up with a roll of toilet paper in your armpit. Very uncomfortable. Very limited counter space, and the bathtub was higher than the toilet.

Stayed here for a last hooray before my sonwent of to university. Enjoyed the staff at the desk and restaurants. The food was excellent for sure! The arcade game place was a nice touch too. Parking was a challenge as well as there was a mid week wedding.

We arrived at this hotel and were given an efficiency queen room which offered us extra space and the ability to microwave or heat food if we wished. Our bathroom was tiny.There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom, so windows and mirrors were steamed up after showering. Controlling the temperature in the room was challenging.....either too hot or too cold. The breakfasts were boring....scrambled eggs, ham or sausages, hash browns and beans.....everyday!! No pancakes or waffles which I enjoy eating once in awhile and were available at every other hotel we stayed at. Maybe time to look at this......We did enjoy breakfast on the patio on one warm and sunny morning overlooking the lake.....that was lovely. We also had an excellent meal for dinner from the restaurant....the food was flavourful and well prepared. Hopefully, management can look at these issues mentioned above and try to improve them.

Great Hotel, The rooms that you drive up to aren't as up to date as the ones in the Hotel but its over a nice hotel. Restaurant is really good with great staff! Love that the serve a hot continental breakfast!

we stayed at this hotel because of the onsite restaurant and advertised amenities (breakfast, supper etc) it was a Tuesday night and the restaurant appeared empty but we were told they could not seat us for more than an hour because their kitchen could not handle the amount of guest in the restaurant. Breakfast was not up to standards as the items were quite obviously from Costco.

First rate service throughout. Will stay at this hotel on next trip to Halifax. Not downtown but worth the trip,. Try to get a room facing the lake and on 9th floor. The view is fantastic. One can swim the lake in season.

What a gem. This hotel is located on Chocolate Lake, nestled 10 minutes from the heart of Halifax. I love fresh air and was able to leave the windows open and enjoy a view of the lake. Breakfast buffet was good. Reception was helpful, warm, and welcoming. Our room was comfortable, quiet, and had the amenities we needed. Arrow, the hotel's chocolate lab, was a joy to be around who loves riding luggage carts and give dog kisses!

I left my booking quite late and the hotels I wanted (downtown) were either all booked out or over $400 a night. A friend recommended this place and I booked it. Getting downtown and to other places I wanted to visit was no problem at all. A $12 cab ride got me to the city centre. The location, out at Chocolate Lake, was really quite special – a view out over the lake at breakfast was very nice indeed.

We loved our room as we could watch the beautiful sunset and the sunrise over Chocolate Lake. The room was very comfortable, I wanted to take the whole bed home! Breakfast is in the restaurant overlooking the lake and the patio is open. The presentation and quality of the breakfast is great.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights, Sept 13 to 18, and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is a bit dated but everything was clean and well maintained, the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was great. We stayed here mainly for the price, location, free parking, free breakfast and free wifi. The location is directly on Chocolate lake which is very clean and swimmable for guests. The deck overlooking the lake is a great place for breakfast or any other meals. The hotel is about 5 kilometres (3 miles) from the harbourfront and close to the highway to travel out of Halifax. It is located in a residential area so there aren't any restaurants or bars to walk to but it is a short drive to shopping, dining or the main tourist areas. It is a very quiet setting on the lake and suited our needs very well. Our king size bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. We would recommend staying here.

Room rug was shabby and dirty.Otherwise the hotel,breakfast and staff were very good.The hotel was conveniently located for trips out of town,for example to Peggy's Cove ,Annapolis Valley,etc.Upgrading of the rug would make a great difference.

Nice hotel, nice view over Chocolate Lake (ask for lake view), restarurant provides a nice dinner. Easy communte by car to downtown Halifax. Take note that this hotel welcomes bus tours now, so try to check-in prior to or after their arrival (i.e. 4-6 pm). Busy hotel, so make a reservation, at least for weekends and summer.

I just recently moved to Halifax for work and Best Western Chocolate Lake made my move here a lot more pleasant and smooth. They're very pet friendly and their staff is very accommodating. Constant Wi-Fi service and you're quite capable of going out for a swim nearby in the lake right in the back then follow up with a nice dip into the whirlpool right after. The location is ideal if you need to deal with business in town if you have a car. There was construction at the time, and you can barely hear that.

This is a Best Western...PLUS...I wasn't sure what the PLUS stood for maybe it stands for the exceptional level of service. It was truly incredible. I've had good service at hotels before but generally they were part of one of the big chains where you pay more and thus expect more. I was expecting 3 stars across the board but I now understand why this hotel consistently gets higher than 3 stars in reviews. Yes, the rooms are BW rooms, nothing fancy, poorly placed outlets and a lack of USB ports and comfy chairs to sit in. They were clean, everything worked but no frills. 3 stars. Exactly as expected. BUT THE SERVICE!! Never would have expected it, and even after four nights was still being 'surprised' by the outstandingly consistent level of service. Great job BW Chocolate Lake, thanks! Other stuff: Breakfast is pretty much what you'd expect - it's a step above a Hampton though so that's nice, much better selection and very nice environment looking out on the lake. Excellent central location and once you figure out the detours it's fine. If you have sensitive eyes, watch out for the pool area, very chlorine-y (not sure that's a word but if you have sensitive eyes you probably know what I mean) Nice gym, added bonus of arcade that is part museum. And Errol (sp?) the chocolate lab...because what makes you happier when travelling than seeing a big ol' chocolate lab curled up behind the desk.

Good location, easy to find. Clean room, mattress was OK Restaurant was clean and food was good. Parking was great and easy to find a spot. The Grounds are well kept and if you are lucky you might be greeted by some friendly ducks.

Uninteresting hotel entrance; no cheerful decor or paintings/sculptures. No interesting gift shop. Breakfast 'buffet' sad. You can drink OJ concentrate anywhere...how about fresh squeezed folks? If all of Europe (even hostels) can do it so can you! Bread choice awful, over cooked dried out scrambled eggs awful, bacon not offered this day :( The outside seating overlooking a lake is clearly their selling point. Not much else.

Nice, Clean and quiet hotel. Located outside downtown but only 10 min drive. Very quiet, nice and clean. Pet friendly. Restaurants close by. Close to park and bay for evening walk. Nice lake for a swim. Gym a bit small. Inside pool and hot tub very clean.

First time to Halifax and if we go again we will DEFINITELY stay here. Everything was exceptional from the get go. Staff are caring and kind, the room was very clean and generous in size and the pillows and beds were so comfortable! The additional shining star: the in-house restaurant and menu. We ate MANY delicious meals there b because it was that good. Whomever is the chef there - hats off!

My son and I stayed at this hotel for a single night in early September and it was not up to the standards of a Best Western Plus hotel. There were a number of patches on the walls and there was little to no effort made to conceal them. We had a walk in room (from outside) and when we got up in the morning there were a few bugs in our room. The hotel rooms were probably be better, but I do not recommend getting a lake view walk in room.

I have always been very impressed with the service provided from staff. I feel at home. I am greeted with smiles, and the best service. The front desk team which includes Matt, have always greeted me smiles. Matt emails me to let me know that he has a nice room for me; and asks if there is anything I need before I get there. The rooms are always clean, 100% functional, and have never had a complaint. I have never had to change a room, or highlight a deficiency in all my stays. This tells me that the entire team is focused on delivering a high quality product. I have done countless surveys, and never have I reported a single issue. A well run hotel to say the least. I stay at a lot of hotels while on business. I stay at a variety of hotels ranging from 5* to 2*. I prefer Chocolate lake because of the team that takes care of me. I recall a time when I hadn't seen my wife for days because I had been travelling on business. When the front desk team learned of how excited I was to see my wife; they surprised me with a bottle of wine, and some delicious cheese and crackers. 100% satisfied!!! RM

The hotel looked like a good place to stay since we didn't know Halifax. It was easy to find from the airport. The rooms I felt were small and the beds were hard. I am short and I could touch the ceiling in bathroom when I was in the shower. Parking and restaurant are horrible. Have to be at hotel by 5:30-6:00 pm to guarantee a parking spot. If not then the security guard had to find grass space or any other corner to put your car in. Had dinner the first night, ordered chicken fingers and fish. Everything had come out of a box. Soft drinks were flat and had to wait for 20 minutes for them. They do serve breakfast but get early or no place to sit. The location was really pretty by the lake which meant brides wanted to have their wedding there, which is why parking was terrible. It is pet friendly which is great and the chocolate lab that is the hotel ambassador was so cute and welcoming. Now that I know Halifax better I don't know if I would stay again as it was not close to anything that we go to.

We arrived on an early morning flight ((6:15am) and drove to the hotel to drop off our luggage. We knew check-in wasn't until noon but the lady at the front desk asked the cleaning staff to get a room ready for us right away. By the time we had breakfast, our room was ready. Standard room , 2 queen beds but a wonderful view of Chocolate Lake. It's a short drive to the harbourfront. The breakfast buffet was excellent and items were refilled as they were used up. The same are is used for lunch and supper as a restaurant and we ate supper there as well. There is lots of parking around the back of the hotel. It's close to a shopping mall/Walmart.

Clean, great beds, lovely breakfast (and some have restaurants for convenience). What more can you ask for? We wouldn't stay anywhere else as long as a Best Western is available. On our trips, we have stayed in various types of accommodations and are always so relieved when we find a Best Western in the vicinity of our travels.

This is a nice Hotel and we were glad we stayed here. It is about 10 to 15 minutes by taxi from city. Reception friendly, rooms tidy and clean, wifi, dog friendly, good bar, good breakfasts and a nice lake beside hotel to have a swim in. Buses are approx 300 meters from hotel, down at the round about.

First time in Nova Scotia. Hotel is a great location. Nice facilities on the grounds. Close to major highways and easy to get downtown. Parking is not always easy, so ask at the front desk where the additional spots are located. And the hotel has a gorgeous Chocolate Labrador, stop by and say Hi to Aero.

The bed was awesome allowing great sleep. Huge bedroom as well as a sitting room was a great asset for a 6 day stay. Well priced. Also found the hotel room very quiet although the hotel was sold out along with 3 weddings happening. The restaurant menu was impressive and reasonably priced. Enjoyed the pool and hot tub daily.

The hotel is on a lake outside the city center. It is an older building, but it has been updated. We liked our room and we liked the view. All the staff treated us well. What really surprised us was the restaurant. We had dinner at the hotel and thought it was the best meal we had during our trip to Nova Scotia and at a very reasonable price.

The Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel in Halifax is a great hotel. Room was nice and comfortable, breakfast area is very well laid out with plenty of options and the view of the lake was pretty. The only downside was the parking because there didn't seem to be enough. Other than that, great hotel!

This hotel has polite, professional staff. I had a clean room, with a very comfortable bed and a big screen TV. The room included a clean, functional bathroom in which everything worked flawlessly. Ordinarily, I would have rated the overall value to be average, but since the room included free parking, I would rate it very good value.

It was a WOW!! The hotel situated beside Chocolate Lake and you have the feeling that you are living in haven . Friendly staff , outstanding breakfast and a very nice rooms . Upon our arrival we decided to have super at the hotel . We were surprised by the quality and the good test , it is one of the best restaurants that we have seen in Halifax . Well done !

My husband and I had a delightful time at the Best Western Plus Chocolate Lake Hotel, Halifax, NS for two nights in August 2017. The quality of the restaurant food for lunch and dinner was excellent, the continental breakfast (hot and cold food) was very good, and the buffet dinner served at the wedding reception was incredible - excellent quality and variety, and hot dishes were hot and cold dishes were cold as they should be. Staff was great!!

Ugh! So disappointed with our stay. This hotel needs a good cleaning...even the elevators are dirty. We were not pleased at all with our stay. Small bathroom - but sufficient. Room overlooked garbage dumpsters. Not a cheap stay either. Wouldn't recommend it / wouldn't stay here again.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights and we really loved it. Nice location with view on the lake. Very good breakfast. Staff was very friendly. Clean rooms with fridge in the room. Wifi worked well. They also have pool and hot tub (there was one confusing thing - a lot of people try to enter pool through the glass door and don't notice a note that they should enter through the changing rooms). There is a game room (not all games worked, but still kids have fun there).

The room was a little small, but then we had alot of luggage. The room was clean. The breakfast area was large, which was good since bus tour groups came through. The buffet was excellent. You could eat outside on the patio if the weather was nice. Very attentive breakfast personnel. The setting was great as it is beside a lake. Front desk personnel are also very helpful with suggestions and are very patient. The gym is small but adequate and the indoor pool was a little murky but nice on a hot day. Location is a short drive to downtown.

This was a most enjoyable stay, very comfortable room Bed was comfortable room very clean.Staff was so friendly and helpful. The breakfast area was the best layout of space, the variety wonderful and the quality of food excellent. The staff all work very hard and it shows, GREAT JOB! We ate supper all 3 nights and they have an incredible chef with great food and presentation.

This is a lovely hotel . Close to Halifax water front. It has a beautiful view of Chocolate Lake that is just amazing. A very quite late however very very clean. Great pool and hot tub. Great price too.

A very nice location on chocolate Lake where one can have breakfast outdoors overlooking in good weather. Located well for seeing sights of Halifax. We were travelling with our dog and were impressed that the hotel had a pet dog.....a chocolate lab of course.

Beautiful Hotel with a wonderful restaurant!! They have a good size Gym & a newly renovated pool. Not to forget an awesome view of the chocolate lake! Oh, also their Hotel is pet friendly, you'll see for yourself at your arrival when your greeted by their Signature Chocolate lab, AERO.

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel and were very disappointed. This should not be a Best Western Plus. We have stayed at many Best Western hotels and this one is the worst one yet. This hotel is very dated. The lights are dim, the carpet is dirty and bumpy, and the paint is peeling off. There is an old, mouldy smell throughout the hotel and inside the room. The air condition is noisy and the filter must of never been cleaned. Overall very disappointing and should be avoided at all cost. The best part of this place is the restaurant. It's has outstanding food and service.

Very clean and modern rooms with gorgeous view of the lake, which was also very clean and one could swim in it (in addition to indoor pool). Most 3-star hotels offer only a cold continental breakfast, but this one also offered an abundant hot buffet breakfast, included in the room rate. Front desk staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

First stop on our family holiday We stayed 3 nights. Everyone enjoyed our stay and wished we staying longer. Close to the centre of Halifax and shopping mall. Restaurant and bar very good and good delicious. Kids loved the swimming pool Staff throughout the hotel very friendly and helpful

Hotel is out of the way, priced way to high for what you receive, tried using rewards but could not because they had no rooms, but yet I was able to make reservation, there rewards system has really disappointed me, I have others and they honor the free nights. Staff was friendly.

Great stay, the staff was very friendly overall. Sure, I wish the pool was warmer and the waffle maker was up and running, but overall, I couldn't have asked for friendlier staff, as well as great times. The arcade was a great place, the restaurant had a great view of Chocolate Lake, and a great balcony too. Great time.

We were in town for the talk ship festival and considered this hotel a better value for our money. The staff was helpful, the room clean and functional with a coffee maker and free internet and parking. The full breakfast included in the price was excellent and the outside terrace on Chocolate Lake was a nice plus. Nothing wow but worth the price.

We stayed two nights at this hotel and found it to be a good spot. The room was a nice room with kitchen, microwave and fridge. There was plenty of room for a couple but would be very crowded if additional people were in the room. The bathroom was small but nice and clean. The bed was very comfortable with good linens. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant and all were very good. The servers that we had were all excellent. This was a great hotel, out of the way if you want to walk around the city but less expensive as well. It is always an option to take the transit (bus stop is close) into the downtown core and leave the car behind.

Greatest Hotel on earth! My husband was raised in Halifax but Arkansas in the U.S. has been our home for over 30 years. We are repeat guests year after year, visit after visit because we are treated like family. The staff of this Hotel treat guests like family/friends and not just someone with a credit card. You are greeted by staff who go above and beyond to see that your needs are met, one only needs to tell them your need. They have seen us thru visits for family illnesses, two deaths in our family and just visits for fun and relaxation. Always taking the time to ask how things are and if we need anything at all. The view of the Chocolate Lake and Northwest Arm doesn't hurt either, whether it's watching the ice skaters and hockey players in Winter or the swimmers, boarders and kayakers of Summer it is always beautiful, year round. The Lakeside Grill's Chef Kevin offers meals that match any 5 star restaurant in the city. Everything on the menu is top notch, made to order and sets your taste buds aglow. During warmer weather one can enjoy their wonderful meal while sitting on the Patio taking in the beautiful view of the Lake and the Northwest Arm. We have traveled all over and this is truly the greatest place on earth. Bottom line, as far as we are concerned this is the only place to stay in Halifax. Highly recommend.

The facility was a real prize. It is a wonderful location with many amenities. A wonderful breakfast. The restaurant had superb food at a great value. Everyone was very friendly and professional. Room was nice, clean and slept well.

The hotel is located very close to downtown and is situated beside a lake. The lake provides an opportunity to swim in the summer. Cleanliness of the hotel and service were both of a high quality. I would definitely stay here again.

This Best Western has a pleasant restaurant which conveniently opens at 6:30 am,. . The rooms are good. It's nice to be able to take the dog with us sometimes. We are happy to stay here the next trips we will be taking to Halifax.

Great hotel, super staff, great location. No so super breakfast for anyone who likes a real breakfast. Microwaved food, which my wife and I find disgusting. First, its unhealthy and second its generally disagreeable to our palate'

Very family friendly, many people and pets enjoyed the grounds and even swam in the lake, very clean, good service and housekeeping. Good Breakfast spread, and choice of indoor seating or on the deck overlooking the lake, will stay here again.

Just can't beat the location if you wish to stay in Halifax area, and either have car for trips downtown, or don't mind the bus ride (25 minutes?). Beautiful swimming lake, perfect temperature mid-July, no motor boats. Included breakfast was excellent, and sitting out on deck with lake view was a treat. Front desk staff helpful and cheerful.

I can't say enough good things about this hotel. We arrived late at night and hadn't eaten after a long day of travel, we were the last customers in the restaurant and even as they were closing they served us! Our luggage didn't make it and provided us the essentials, rooms were unique and outstanding. Full breakfast the next morning which was terrific, sitting outside on the terrace enjoying the lake. Luggage still hadn't arrived, so we went on tour of Halifax and came back to early afternoon to wait their arrival, although we had checked out the desk were wonderful and patient with our questions and lounging in the front area. The hotel is tucked away and you can't tell from the pictures how beautiful the setting is. A plus for this hotel!

Nothing can beat waking up to a coffee sitting on a deck as you look over a lake! Such a relaxing stay, with all the expected amenities but with a superb breakfast and a gorgeous view AND how can I forget to mention the beautiful chocolate lab dog; the kids loved him!!

Will look forward to being at this hotel again. A most pleasant experience, though I wish I'd had a bathing-suit with me to take a swim in the lovely quiet lake it sits right on. One can swim over to a really nice sand-beach is located directly across the water, from grassy lake access just yards off the hotel lower level. (There is also an indoor pool, exercise room and game room.) Very dog friendly, and good parking situation. The hotel is quite handy to various smaller highways for some of the main Nova Scotia tourist locations in different directions. Loved the free breakfast buffet--hot, tasty, amazingly broad choices. Al Fresco dining was available just off the main room, on a large deck overlooking the lake; I also noticed people had taken paper plates (available in the dining room along with the usual china ones) down to the park-like lake-shore where the hotel has its own picnic tables. Evening dinner in the same dining room was wonderful, in variety, cooking quality and a flair for presentation; it was far above the hotel norm (for a family hotel as opposed to a 5 star city or resort hotel.) There are some very long hallways to different wings of the hotel, so if you have someone with walking issues, ask for a room nearer the lobby. I had a lake-view room which was great for a quiet, peaceful in-room atmosphere!

Very beautiful location and the staff is great! I would recommend this hotel and would use again. Dan & Ryan in the lounge were great and Ryan mixed a few drinks as I like to try different mixed drinks. Breakfast was good each day too...a lot of same foods but good none the less.

At first, I was concerned about the location of the hotel since the surrounding area looked a little beat up. Still, the back view of the lake and the close location to Halifax (10 mins driving) and the Lighthouse Route (about 30 mins to Peggy's Cove) made it very well worth it. I loved meeting Aero the chocolate lab puppy. And, yes, he slept most of the time. But, the one morning he came out from behind the desk to play was just wonderful. The room and bathroom were a reasonable size. I didn't quite understand their pool towel policy (they left two towels in the room and said they would charge $10 per towel if it wasn't in the closet when you check out). Why not leave more towels in the pool area so we can pick up a dry one each time? Maybe some people would steal the towels from the pool area...but most of us won't. We just like dry clean towels every time we use a pool/hot tub. The pool and hot tub area was well designed to keep kids separated from the hot tub area as best as possible. The Lakeside Grill had, to me, pretty great food for dinner (we went twice) and breakfast every morning. Great variety, great desserts, though one dinner visit dragged on a little too long without the waitress informing us what was holding up our meal. Still, no major problems. We'd likely come back again. Would love to see Aero up and running around though!

Very pleasant stay, friendly staff, a good breakfast service, quiet lake surroundings, a short cab ride to Downtown. Rome can be upgraded a bit, although the price's great for what we paid for. Will stay next time.

We used this hotel as our base to explore Halifax and the surrounding area, and as such was located in an ideal spot - easy to get downtown, easy to venture into the outlying area. Room was large and clean, staff efficient, breakfast was quite good. Would definitely stay here again.

Whether your on business or fun family time this place is perfect and good breakfast to start your day. Clean comfortable pet friendly rooms at a fair market price. They do a good job and it shows. We'll be back !

My experience with this hotel was not a good one, I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends, family, or co-workers, and I don't plan to return to this hotel in the future. I booked a suite and a queen regular room, and when I booked the rooms I requested that both rooms be adjoining and specified very clearly how important this was. When I arrived I had come to find that my rooms weren't adjoining, one was on one floor and the other was on a completely different floor, opposite the hotel. When I spoke with the manager on duty who checked me in, he had asked if I called the hotel directly to book or used the "concierge booking service", I had told him that when I called the hotel I was put through to a reservations line to book. He said that with that service, they don't necessarily know the hotel and so they may not have known when the service representative booked my rooms. I tried asking for new rooms and he explained the hotel was completely booked up and there was nothing more I could do. If a hotel uses those services, the hotel is still responsible for their actions; it is not an excuse "oh you should've spoken to someone at the front desk to book because those services don't always know the layout of the hotel," well guess what, you are still responsible for the customer service of that reservations line system. If the hotel can't back up or support or train those customer service reps properly, than don't use that service for your reservations line. He didn't do very much to make up for this, no discount, no nothing, it was extremely disappointing and frustrating. Then on top of this, upoon day of departure, the bill they slipped under my door had an extra charge on it for "additional adult" in one of my rooms. Even more upset with this hotel, I marched downstairs to get an explanation as to why they charged me extra when there are only 2 people in that room, he did remove the charge after all, without me having to act like one of "those guests who have to get ugly." Overall, this experience was etremely disappointing and I will never go back and have explained this to all my friends, family, co-workers who also travel and they are disappointed by this as well.

Great location. Good restaurant. Room needs an update and different closet doors - closet was virtually useless. Check in was late. Can be problematic to find a parking spot when the hotel is full. Overall ok. Could do with an update.

Good location, with some rooms offering lake views. We had a queen suite which was very comfortable and had a well equipped kitchenette, plus additional seating. The bed was comfortable, with nice linens. The inc breakfast was good, particularly the fresh fruit and baked goods. The cooked was fine, standard fare. All self service so a litttle hectic at times. The real bonus here is the free parking and an easy commute into town by either car or bus -which literally stops outside the hotel.

I would recommend for both business and pleasure. The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. The breakfast service and choice was awesome as was the dinner menu. I had an amazing lake view from the room I was in. The location was great for business purposes however I would also recommend for pleasure as it was easy to get around. The hotel staff where extremely helpful in assisting with public transport information. I also found their knowledge of what was going on was amazing.

Great stay! Location is excellent as it feels like being in a rural area but in the middle of the city! Great view of lake and close to everything! Will definitely stay again when in Halifax! Service was great! Breakfast was excellent and diner at the restaurant in the evening was also excellent with a wonderful view of the lake! Food and service was very good! Real enjoyable stay even if it was for business and not for leisure!

Service was wonderful the people staff were extremely helpful there's a beautiful little Lake behind the hotel where you can swim or watch others swimming and boating location is very convenient if you have business or pleasure to do in downtown

Stayed here for 4 nights. The location was great just 15 mins from downtown and close enough to highways for day trips to Peggy's Cove/lunenberg etc. We enjoyed the option of our drive-in room. With an infant it made it much easier to load and unload the car. Room is standard. The staff were kind enough to set up the playpen for us immediately when we checked in quite late. Breakfast was good, plenty of options. We liked walking past Aero the chocolate lab every morning. There is plenty of picnic tables overlooking Chocolate lake, which was a nice touch. If I visit again I'd be sure to stay here. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Halifax.

Again the hotel and the staff outdid themselves. The restaurant food was great, the staff helpful. The hotel was quiet and the rooms very clean. If any issues arise, it is dealt with immediately. I would definitely stay again, Very convenient (10 minutes away) to the Canadian Forces Base instead of staying downtown.

We spent our first 2 nights here having arrived from the UK , the hotel is around half an hours drive from the airport and an easy 10 minute drive to downtown Halifax. The hotel overlooks 2 lakes and there is an outside seating area for drinks and breakfast which overlooks the lake. The hotel provides modern well appointed rooms with free wi fi and has a pool,gym and whirlpool. Breakfast was varied over the 2 mornings and had lots of choices to suit all tastes. There is ample free off road parking and all the staff were friendly and helpful, this is an ideal hotel to stay are if you are visiting Halifax.

I've stayed at Best Western properties all over North America and in Europe. This may be the best I've experienced. The hotel is on the shoreline of Chocolate Lake, where you can enjoy a drink on the covered patio or go for a swim. Or you can observe the resident mascot -- a Chocolate Labrador Retriever, naturally. Service is excellent and friendly, the large restaurant is fine for most dining requirements, and the rooms with a view of the lake are enchanting.

Must try this restaurant the food was excellent. We had the OMG burger with the pulled pork yummm... and the smoky flavor of the bacon jam on the burger, excellent. The room use clean and comfortable and a lovely view of the lake. The staff was friendly and had smiles on their faces. way to go .

Stayed at this property for two nights. Away from downtown but close enough drive to enjoy all that Halifax has to offer at the waterfront. We ate in the restaurant one night and had a great meal. Pool, hot tub, exercise room, comfortable rooms. What else can you ask for.

This is the second year that we have stayed at this Hotel and this year was no different than last year. We were greeted as soon as we entered the lobby and the staff was very professional but made you feel like a family member. The hotel is extremely easy to navigate. every thing is easy to find and if you need anything the staff is right there with the answer. They are very helpful in assisting in directions and anything else you want to know regarding the town. great starting point to head in any direction, location is convenient for all sight seeing, or 5 minutes from harbour.

The room was very comfortable and the staff were all great. The breakfast was quite good. The breakfast staff were very nice considering that a lot of people treat them like machines instead of people, I hate that. They did a great job anyway!! On the Saturday night, parking was a bit of an issue. The restaurant was quite nice and very good. The bar was quite small but also quite nice. The pool and hot tub were terrific. I would stay here again without hesitation!!

We stayed at the Chocolate Lake Best Western for 10 nights while we were trying to find a house for a military relocation. We booked a suite because they had "kitchenettes". It was a bar fridge and a tiny sink, a microwave, a toaster. They were missing things like a cutting board and knife. We had our own thankfully but I thought it odd they did not provide them. There was no dish drying rack either. We had to use bath towels. Odd. Also we had a 2-year-old toddler who resists sleep. We requested a crib. They provided a pack 'n play. My daughter climbed right out of the pack 'n play. That is not a bed. It is a playpen. She slept in the bed with me and fell out several times over the 10 days we were there. We used the bench propped up against the wall (the bed was. It moveable). We used the playpen to border the bottom and the rest we placed pillows all around. She still fell. Extremely disappointed by the lack of actual cribs. I didn't sleep all week because of it. So thanks. No thanks. Otherwise it was a good stay. The staff were nice and efficient. The hotel was on a lake but a very busy road. The restaurant was great. Breakfast was good. The pool was nice. The beds were clean and comfortable. The rooms need updating though. They are looking a bit old and worn now. They were pretty clean though. Thank you.

There are some caveats but over all stay was fantastic. Superb room with a view! Great location! 10 minutes to downtown, less than 5 minutes to Halifax Shopping Centre, beach just behind the hotel, 7 minutes drive to the Titanic graveyard, half an hour drive to peggy's cove and half an hour drive to the airport. Staff may need to further enhance their skills on hospitality particularly on service. They lack the welcoming approach, attention to details (of what was requested) and service with a smile specially at the restaurant. AERO (the guard dog) was great!

This hotel has a fantastic view of Chocolate Lake depending what section of the hotel you're staying in. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly. I lost my book during my stay and they ensured it was returned to me. The on-site restaurant was fantastic! Great service and food choice. The complimentary breakfast was good, too. I would recommend if you're staying here and coming and going (as most tourist do) do not stay in the 300 section as it is no very accessible. Parking was a tad difficult at this particular hotel. Overall, my family has a good experience. It's a good value and great location. Just a quick drive to downtown Halifax.

This is a nice hotel. It takes about 10 minutes to get downtown and it's near highways. The restaurant is nice, but there aren't a lot of options to eat out right by the hotel. There are a lot within 10-15 minutes of the hotel.

Exceeded expectations. The room was very clean and had all the amenities. It was particularly nice to be in a pet friendly hotel. Although it is slightly out of the way, it doesn't have the hassle and bustle of downtown which is close enough.

I had to stay here, as my usual hotel was booked up. I realized very quickly why I always stay at Comfort Hotel and none of the other ones. The staff were not at all friendly, no personality and the atmosphere was not inviting at all. I felt uncomfortable right from my first interaction in this place. The food from the restaurant was great though. I would go back, but only to eat! Apparently you need to take the restaurant staff and put them at the hotel desk. They were the only ones to exude any sort of personality and give a smile. The room smelled funny and if you have allergies, DO NOT STAY HERE especially! As soon as the heater was turned on in my room, my allergies started acting up. I looked in the heater that was in the room and you can clearly see the dust and stuff in it. The beds are not comfy at all and are actually quite hard. The breakfast was terrible as well. No pancakes, no bacon, no toast or even the ability to make toast. Some of the most important parts to a breakfast were non existent. I would definitely not go back here. Next time the Comfort Hotel is book up, I guess I will be travelling back to the valley.

This was our second time staying at this hotel. It has an unusual layout of hallways (at least in the section we stayed at) nonetheless, the room was spotless and very comfortable. Ours was a very last minute reservation but they accommodated us quite nicely. They have a new chocolate lab there now as Cocoa is retired now. Such a sweet addition to "Chocolate " Lake! We had breakfast both days which is the standard buffet style and they have a nice selection of breakfast foods to offer.

Great check in service. Rooms are well appointed. The Lake is a bonus with picnic tables and grass areas. Our little dog Missy enjoyed her time there too! Best hot breakfast service (included)that we have enjoyed anywhere across Canada

This hotel is only a few minutes drive from Downtown Halifax, maybe 15 mins. It is an amazing hotel with stunning views of the lake, well worth a few dollars more to get a lake view room and wake up to the beautiful sight as you open the drapes The staff here are lovely, very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is well maintained, and as mentioned, couldn't be in a better location. The pool and hot tub are above adequate size for the few people that seemed to take advantage of them and there is also a good gym room. A fun surprise was the games room with real pinball machines, I haven't had a go on one of those for years, and also there is an old style photo booth...fun!! The food at this hotel is amazing, they must have an excellent chef. Breakfast was way above and beyond what you would expect with it being included in the room price, and a very pleasant surprise was it was always piping hot...I can't be the only person who hates lukewarm food. Both the hot food and buffet items were kept well stocked and the two ladies down there keep everything cleared and cleaned as soon as a table is vacated. We ate in the restaurant each night and the food there is also excellent. I especially loved the Lakeside salad, we shared the full sized salad each night with one or two other items off the menu. Everything we ate was delicious, and again served nice and hot Nikita, our server most nights was lovely, very friendly, and helpful when we asked about places we wanted to visit. If she didn't have an answer herself she would go and find out. The room itself was kept very clean and well stocked, and the bed comfortable. I can definitely recommend this hotel....oh and another bonus, free parking ! Most of the hotels right in the downtown seem to have quite a high daily fee, it was cheaper to drive down and park for the day, or there is a bus service if you prefer.

Perfect location. Very close to downtown Halifax, the Citadel, VIARail, and the Halifax Shopping Centre. Bus stop in front of the hotel. Halifax Transit is reasonable ($2.50). The rooms have a fridge,coffee maker, good wifi, comfortable beds and windows that open. The hot breakfast is outstanding. The on-site restaurant has great tasting food at very reasonable prices and is open late. The parking area is adequate and convenient. The staff is outstanding! Matt and Jeramy at the front desk are professional, knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly. They looked after our every need and represent BW in model fashion. We will recommend this location to everyone visiting Halifax. This IS a Best Western Plus establishment.

We stayed here for two nights. We were on the top (9th) floor. We chose the hotel because it had the lowest CAA rate for a hotel of its class and was close to everything (although we needed to drive). I think it used to be a Keddy's hotel. The rooms were small by today's standards although certainly adequate. The free breakfast buffet was very good with good service and lots of options. The breakfast room overlooked Chocolate Lake. It would be nice to eat outside in warmer weather. The remote for our tv didn't work and the promised replacement never arrived. Overall it was fine for the price.

I've stayed in most of the hotels in halifax and this one is as good as any of the others. We stayed here for a week with our 6 month old and it was quiet and clean. The hotel restaurant doesn't do room service (i didn't see that anyway) but it does take-out which is basically the same but cheaper. The food there was pretty good! Best things: Beautiful lake (we didn't have a lakeview, but it's still nice), great bathtubs, dog mascot, pool and hot tub are nice, staff were all pretty friendly - especially those who were non-management. Worst things: Breakfast was meh and the coffee was no good (and I will drink almost any coffee) Neutral fact you should know: It's a bit out of the main halifax downtown, but if you're making trips out to Peggy's cove or elsewhere in the province you can go against "traffic" and are already part of the way out. so that's cool.

Always a pleasure staying at Chocolate Lake. Highly recommended for value and comfort. It offers all that is needed for a night's stay. With breakfast included it gives great value for the price of the room. Better cable TV would be an asset. Internet connection was excellent

Besides the great view, plush towels and spacious rooms this hotel offers a resident mascot - a chocolate lab who is loved by all. The original mascot, Cocoa has recently retired to a staff member's parents' farm. The new mascot is Aero, still in training but also sweet in nature. Food is also quite good at the restaurant, and service is always professional and friendly. I enjoy the salmon, fish tacos and tofu curry! Pulled pork sliders, squash soup and warm apple crisp also good at our work meeting lunches!

Room Amenities were not so good, I have stayed in the past, no complaints, usually we get 2 queen beds, we opted for 1 kin this time as we were not travelling with my daughter, the king bed was hard as a rock and the ground would have been more comfortable, the TV was a very old flat panel circa 2007 with no HDMI port too hook up my laptop, also asked for pool towels and was told to go back to my room as they would be in the closet or the dresser drawer, we found 2 hand towels in the closet and we ended up just sharing a bath towel as we had no time to go looking as we wanted to get a quick swim in before checkout... the breakfast was nice and so was the atmosphere however

As always, the best western is a sure pick. You really can't go wrong, and I've yet to be dissapointed. I stay at hotels very often and do my best to stay at a BW. Chocolate lake was no exception, centrally located and great price.

a little out of the way i.e. from downtown, but close to the Bayers Lake area with lots of restaurants and shops. It's a little awkward to find the first time you go. It's worth mentioning that the bed was particularly comfortable.

This was a business trip. after a long day of work, I arrived in the room opened the blinds to admire the view of the lake and all I could see was trash on the roof (a dirty diaper and empty water and beer bottles on the roof, just not what I was expecting from this place) I only took one picture, I didn't think I would be writing about this... Please make sure to look out the window before handing out a room with a view of the lake!

Don't let the slightly outdated look of the hotel scare you off. This room was clean and had all the amenities you want. The bed was comfortable AND - and huge bonus - the windows in our room opened. Plus we had a great view of the lake. Really worth mentioning is the staff. They were not only friendly but you got a sense of them working well together. The chocolate Lab puppy, Aero, was a bonus. What a cutie. And the restaurant was the best hotel food I've had in a long time. With breakfast included the value is exceptional.

What a beautiful location this is. Right on the water, a pet-friendly hotel. The staff were most welcoming, restaurants were superior, very clean and only suggestion would be to update the decor - particularly in the bedrooms.

The hotel is relatively close to the center of town of Halifax. There is limited parking in front of the hotel, but on the left and right in the back are more spaces. The two back lots can be reached by separate back doors. That might be a bit confusing. The lobby area is fine. The breakfast room is decorated very nice. The soundproofing of the rooms is not great. We enjoyed our stay. Helpful staff.

This is a lovely property. There is a huge comfy sitting area when you walk in. The staff were very helpful on all matters. Our room as very clean and comfortable. We stayed 2 nights and totally enjoyed ourselves. This is just a short cab ride from down which makes it very conveint as well.

My daughter and I recently stayed here for a little getaway. The hotel has a welcoming atmosphere and we found the room to be quite clean. My daughter was anxious to use the pool so it was one of our first stops after checking in. The lock on the main pool door does not work. Someone had to get out of the pool to let myself and 3 other guests in. (We later found out that you have to enter through the dressing rooms, as they allow locals to rent the pool - signage would be nice so that their paying guests would know) Once we got into the pool area, we realized there was no towels. Redressing a 2 year old and removing her from the pool area was a complete disaster. I approached the front desk carrying a very upset child and asked for pool towels. I was then told I would have to return to my room on the 6th floor as only 4 pool towels were available to each room (there was actually only 2 in our room). When we finally made it back to the pool, it was very clean and a comfortable temperature. The other issue we had was with the jetted tub in the room. My toddler thought this was fantastic, the people in the next room ... not so much. They began banging on the walls, scaring my toddler to the point that she would not return to the bathroom by herself for the rest of the evening. These tubs should be removed if they are so loud as to bother the people in the next room. Everything else during our stay was great. There was no further issues, and we would definitely give this hotel another try in the future.

The staff make this hotel! Without exception from check in to check out they are helpful, friendly & knowledgeable. Your satisfaction is important to them. Aero, the new chocolate Labrador puppy completes the at home atmosphere.

We used to stay here decades ago, but hadn't been by in awhile. The place has been recently renovated and it is super. Right on the lake - a wonderful view, and near to the 101/103/102 and yet just far enough off that there isn't a to of traffic. Handy to the Armdale Rotary, so you can get anywhere in the city quickly. Great job!

Great place to stay , quiet , clean , friendly service , love the view of the lake ..... convenient location....breakfast was good ....definetly would recommend and go back again ....looks like a lovely patio area for warmer weather off of the bar .....this was our second visit to tis hotel....

It's ok as long as you have a credit card under your name. But if your boss were to book it for your conference, you would be left out in the cold because they don't even take your boss' word that they are paying for the room for a work related stay. They did not even attempt to find some sort of resolution. Authorization forms, word of mouth, nothing works with these people. Just a sorry and please leave attitude.

Stay there 2-4 times per year. Great location. Not far from downtown. Overlooks a lake which lends to great views and relaxing atmosphere. Although an older hotel, it is well maintained. After a recent renovation of the restaurant, the food, menu, and atmosphere have all changed for the better. Service is personable and friendly. I recommend this hotel.

The hotel offers excellent amenities for the $$. The staff are friendly and the hotel is clean and nicely decorated. Great for anyone from a person on a business trip to a family on vacation. They offer a gym, pool, hot tub and video/games room as well as conference rooms for meetings. The food in the restaurant is great and the lounge is quite nice. If there was a downfall it would be that parking can be difficult if there is a conference going on but otherwise no problem. The hotel is situated on a beautiful lake and has a nice area to walk your dog in. Very dog friendly.

the hotel was in a good central location, near the city and easily accessible. Staff were courteous and friendly and asked if we needed help parking etc. Breakfast was very good and great service. Checkout was quick and easy. Price was a bit high for the time of year.

warm , pet friendly hotel. They have a puppy in the lobby. It has good food,and a great hot breakfast. The rooms are clean, and it has great facilities. The conference centre is wonderful, and the pool area, workout room, and children's arcade are wonderful.

I love the Best Western chocolate lake, not too fancy but nice and comfortable. I always get a good price. and it is nearby everything. Will be back again for sure, and breakfast is great and coffee is the best.

My choice of hotel for Halifax for value, service and comfort. Convenient location for downtown, shopping, forum, entering or departing the city. Breakfast is much more than most free breakfasts. Games room and pool is a plus for families. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Staff have always been helpful and friendly. I always feel welcomed there. And who can resist a chocolate lab puppy?

We stayed here for a wedding & guests had pretty much a whole floor. The rooms were large clean & quiet. The meal at the wedding was excellent, turkey with all the trimmings, plus dessert that was to die for. The waiters at the meal were fine, but front desk ladies were the crankiest we've seen in a while. People were trying to check in to get dressed for the wedding, wouldn't let them til 3, some had to sit in the lobby because they came from outside the city, even some of the bridesmaids! Breakfast buffet was included, which was pretty good, but still the staff wouldn't give you a smile or good morning. Maybe they're friendlier with tourists in the summer, lets hope.

We had a great time at chocolate hotel for my birthday and our anniversary. The King room in the tower facing the lake was excellent. Thank you to Michelle W for the great weekend and special touches!! I would definitely recommend this hotel for their tower rooms facing the lake. As for the other rooms, you should read the reviews and make your decision. From what I hear, you should book Tower Rooms facing the lake.

This hotel is the only one in Halifax that allows large dogs. Although it is a bit of a challenge to find, the hotel is very comfortable and offers free breakfast. If one is not used to the Armdale Rotary, it can be a challenge to find this hotel. Once navigated, the hotel is easy to find and convenient for shopping.

My husband and myself and family have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and keep going back because its central for us to travel around for shopping, movies, walking and admiring the beautiful scenery and , of course, the hotel. Staff are friendly and try to accommodate your every wish. Rooms are clean and beds are very comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We recently stayed at the Best Western Chocolate late as a last minute shopping trip. The location is ideal, minutes away from the Halifax Shopping Center and Bayers Lake. Our room included breakfast which was excellent. Even though it was a continental breakfast, the chef was very accommodating to my husbands milk allergy and made him his own scrambled eggs. It's the little things that go along way!

We went for my birthday, the hotel is located in an amazing picturesque part of Halifax, The view of chocolate lake from our room was amazing (see pictures). Only 2 minor negative comments - 1) Check the Refrigerator before You put any food in there, Ours was not working and my food got spoilt and #2) MOST IMPORTANT - Upgrade your GPS when heading TO the property, we couldn't find it so we had to MacGyver it and substitute the address to fool the satellites.....Oh also Parking is a challenge to get to on a busy night...Otherwise the property and staff are amazing, the complimentary breakfast is nothing to brag about, but then it's a hotel...Would definitely stay again.

stayed here for four days in November. Check-in was fine but after that my stay was really sub-standard. The suite was old and musty and I tripped over the lumpy carpeting more than once. The hotel has very thin walls and was very very noisy. I could not order breakfast even though the buffet food was gone. I could not charge my meals to my room. I could not get food during my break at 3:00 pm. The front desk staff left me standing with an issue with my room key for more than 10 minutes before they called a staff from out back to help. Room service showed up at 8:45 am and didn't return when I told them it was too early. I stay in hotels more than 50 nights a year and I always look for a Best Western. Unfortunately neither my experience, nor the management response to my experience would encourage me to return to this one.

Nothing bad to say about this hotel. Close to downtown Halifax. There is a Needs store right next door, which came in very handy a couple of times. We were in the city for medical appointments and the hotel provided us with a special rate for that reason. Would recommend to anyone.

Staff very helpful and courteous. Restaurant is very good and staff very helpful. Not recognized as diamond members. Our suite is spacious and nice. Out of town a bit so have to drive to see sights and shop. Older hotel but clean and refreshed. I would stay again.

Stayed there for two nights and requested a certain area of the hotel, our request was met with no problems . We checked in early with no problems as we were going to be busy for the day and didnt want to wait till evening to check in. Accommodations were great.

Now this place understands customer service! upgraded room upon arrival smiling staff. Now you have to consider that this is an older property but has had an extensive renovation. But what was nice to see was maintenance staff working away to fix the minor issues even on the weekend. Great pool fantastic buffet breakfast great staff!

I've always liked the layout, pool and hot tub and breakfast in this hotel, although it is very noisy with paper thin walls. Overall experience is definitely affected if they have an event in progress or if you have a loud neighbour. Last time I stayed I had a King bed and it was incredibly comfortable, however the Queen beds we slept in this time were horrendous. Some soundproofing and new mattresses needed to get through the night relaxed.

Best Western Hotels are a known quality. Pretty much standardized across their chain, you get consistency in service, cleanliness and value. Best Western Plus at Chocolate Lake is outside the downtown core of Halifax, but only a short 10 minute drive to reach the hub of the city and the amazing waterfront. Rooms in the back have a great view of the lake itself, and you can either watch the early risers out for their morning swim from docks and homes surrounding the lake, or join them by walking out the back door of the hotel. We choice this location for two reasons; it was much more reasonably priced than hotels in the downtown core, and it was a short, easy drive to get downtown. We stayed here at the start of our maritime tour for three days as we explored the Halifax region, and again for one night after wrapping up our two week trek through Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and parts of New Brunswick and Quebec. They offer the usual amenities, free breakfast, free Wi-Fi and they also have a self service laundry, which is great when you're on a two week road trip.

Our many trips to Chocolate Lake Best Western have always been something to look forward to. We enjoy the pleasant, helpful staff throughout the hotel. The on site restaurant with its view of Chocolate Lake is a pleasant spot to enjoy a quick or leisurely meal. Staff throughout the hotel are very courteous, helpful and respectful. When in Halifax it has become our favorite place to stay.

I just checked in tonight & I'm online looking for another hotel. There is a smell (cleaner? Mold?) in the room that is kicking in my asthma & allergies. The bathroom was not clean - toothpaste or something all over sink, dirt in tub. I had to clean the bathroom. (Thank goodness I had Clorox wipes in car. ) Room is worn. Called front desk & they did nothing. Can't wait to leave.

The hotel was very lovely and was situated on a quaint little lake. The rooms were very nice and the staff helpful and kind. The breakfast was hot and delicious and overlooked the lake. The hotel was also nicely situated on the way to Peggy's cove on the outskirts of Halifax and was still only 10 min to downtown and maybe 30 min from the airport. We would have loved to stay longer

Although this hotel is tall and large, it has an intimate feel never seeming crowded. The lobby, elevator and room were beautiful. The breakfast was a huge buffet with views of the lake. The pool, although cold, and the hot tub are wonderful amenities. The pool warns of a slippery deck. I don't understand why they didn't put down a mat. Although away from downtown Halifax, it was a convenient location for visiting the area.

Lovely large room with view of lake. Well equipped, spotlessly clean. Very friendly reception staff. The hotel offered very good value for money, not compromising on facilities. Hot breakfast choice excellent.

Beds were ok - rooms were spacious - hotel itself was very nice - games room was a huge hit with the kids! The shining part of our stay was the fantastic hot free breakfast the next morning - it was so delicious! Service was awesome too - lots of friendly workers here. My son Finley left his ipad in the room and we've not heard back from them yet (room 305 - we stayed Oct 27th and checked out Oct 28th) but I confident they will get back to us soon. Great spot!

Great pace to stay , no complaints at all....nice view of the lake ,great breakfast , clean and comfortable a little bit out of the way for shopping .But the quietness and scenery of the lake view makes up for that Very friendly staff......we would definitely stay here again.....

Service was great,clean,parking was good, totally satisfied for a business trip. I will go back there anytime.Too bad I could not take advantage of the terrace and grounds.Looks like a nice place to get away so close to the city

Stayed there on a Saturday night with a wedding going on. Staff friendly and helpful once I found a place to park. In all fairness there was a wedding so that would account for the parking lot being crowded. Room was adequate and clean with WiFi easily accessible. Bathroom a little cramped but considering the age of the place satisfactory. Reasonably quiet and free of road noise again considering the wedding downstairs, never heard a sound. Would we stay again, probably although there are many choices.

We stayed here for an early August wedding, and the location was great as it was close to the wedding venue. The rooms need some upgrading, they are dated; I agree with another reviewer that a more thorough cleaning is needed, there is dust in the corners, under the bed, and around the legs of furniture. We were rushed to get to the wedding, and figured out from the guest information that you could order food from the hotel menu, pick it up, and bring it to the room to save time. This was a great fit for our needs, so I went down to get the food at the time I was told (without a credit card) and was informed that even though we ordered from the room and even though we were staying in the hotel (and I had the room key), the food couldn't be charged to the room - if I had eaten in the dining room, I could have charged it to the room mind you. No one was able to explain the rationale to me (which didn't make me happy either), although I am confident there is a reason for this practice. Likely something happened with a previous payment that now means other guests are disadvantaged (like keeping all the class in for recess when one child misbehaves ...). There are lots of other places to stay in the city, so I am unlikely to revisit this Best Western.

price was fine. service was amazing. beds were comfortable. I just thought the floor did not look like it had been vacuumed thoroughly. There was dust build up on the carpeting along the walls. It also looked like dead mosquito remains were on the ceiling. There was a receipt for something on the floor behind the tv that belonged to a previous guest. I realy wish the tv worked properly....or should I say the system used for that model tv. No tv menu was available. You had to scroll up or down the channels one by one. They took the time to laminate a notice that this was an issue? I say either get a new provider for the tv service, or get compatible tv's.

My company hosted a brand training conference last evening. We were blown away by the amazing service provided by the staff. They were very polite and attentive to all of our needs. The room was spacious, clean and set up accordingly. The catering was served promptly and was very delicious. I highly recommend this hotel as a venue for conferences & business meetings. Also, the restaurant is fabulous. We ate breakfast, lunch & supper and the food was phenomenal ??

We stayed here for a couple of nights when we fist arrived in Halifax. The room was a nice size. Lots of room for suitcases etc. There was only a single bar of soap in the room when we arrived. We called the desk to let them know. When we got back from dinner there was extra soap in the bathroom as well as a little pile on a table in the bedroom. People at the desk here were polite and efficient. The breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. Not as much variety as I had expected and when we arrived it must have been after a rush as 3 out of 4 hot items were almost empty and it took awhile before anyone seemed to notice and fill them back up. The second time we stayed was after our tour of Nova Scotia before were flew out. This time we ended up in a "tower" room. These rooms are very small, not much room for a couple with luggage. My suggestion here would be NOT to stay in the tower if possible. Free wifi, but that is pretty much standard now isn't it? Parking here is a bit of a challenge as well. Not a lot of spaces out front.

This hotel is situated on the edge of Halifax city.Has plenty of parking and beautiful amenities,Nice to have a swimming pool if one is travelling for several weeks.Unfortunately they had only room for us for one night. You can see the lake from your room.Small breakfast but OK.

Hotel is somewhat off the beaten path, the rooms need upgrading they are starting to look worn out. After initial swapping of credit card/keys staff kept their eyes down - I wondered in fear of us asking them to do something for us. The bedroom of our suite was small but the beds were comfy, the living room/kitchenette area was beyond tiny. We had a lovely view of the house next door and the parking lot after we were bumped from our original room overlooking the lake as a bride told the hotel she wanted some of her family to be in that room. Not wanting to freak out bridezilla we agreed (should have looked at the other room first - my mistake) the second room was not what we had booked and we were cramped in it. Breakfast was good, staff there wonderful, maybe they should teach the staff at the front desk its ok to look in peoples eyes. Love the area will go again but will not stay at Best Western unless they up their game.

The meal in the restaurant was fantastic, Love the hot tub but the pool was too cold The room was very comfortable but bed was harder than we are use to .Best breakfast of all the hotels.The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location was convenient for all that we wanted to do .

Most excellent hotel. Would highly recommend. Excellent full breakfast and all the staff were friendly and efficient. Parking lot was usually almost full which means we were not the only ones enjoying it.

Excellent place to stay. Would not hesitate to stay on the premise again. Very close to the downtown Halifax. We had a great view of the lake from our lake view room. Strongly recommend lake view rooms.

Great hotel, service and great location. Not downtown, but 10 minutes by car to city centre. Location great because its in quiet area by a nice lake, which is still in Halifax but feels country. We stayed for 4 nights, rooms was wonderful, we upgraded to 2 queen size bedroom (just 2 of us) for much more roomy feel. Very clean our room as the whole hotel very accommodating, friendly staff. Great pool area and hot tub, game room for kids and excersie room if you want to use those. The breakfast was one of the best. What you normally get a most hotels the standard things like juices, fresh fruit, breads and muffins, yogurts PLUS four different hot entries like scrambled eggs, sausages, french toast, etc. This is part of their restaurant, has a lot of seating area including an outside deck towards the lake. We sat outside watching sunrise - so relaxing. Restaurant is open for lunch and dinner which you pay for, we ate downtown, so can't say. Nice bar there also for evening drinks. From this hotel it's 30 minutes drive by car to Peggy's Cove. (We rented a car). Hotel was recommended by our travel agent, so glad we took her advice! Will stay again in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately our stay was not one of the better ones at a Best Western Plus. The room was only "ok" . The cleanliness could have been better. We found a condom in the room which was not appealing at all. The staff seemed unconcerned and made no effort to apologize. Then the second night asked for extra coffee and was told no. They had none? Really? Unfortunately I would have expected better from Best Western. We've always had great rooms before.

Clean, friendly staff, great hot breakfast buffet. Lovely poo areal, and the kids love the games room. We stayed last New Years Eve, and there was a different selection of games this time. Many pinball machines, which they love. Bring quarters and loonies, some of the new machines take loonies, but it gives you a couple of credits, not just one turn. Great internet connection, great location overall. We are repeat guests. See you New Years Eve!

We were accommodated in a lovely pet room & was even given a courtesy late check-out. The Housekeeper who helped us get into the room was really nice and even the Breakfast Staff were very accommodating & efficient. Comfy beds with fluffy pillows make up for a good night's sleep. :-) Their Front Desk Staff could use a little smile & foster a warm ambience, though. At first, I thought I was just being stereotyped (because I'm not a local Canadian), but even my partner (who's from NB) experienced the same ordeal. Maybe we caught them on a bad day. (I would have let this pass easily if my partner didn't hear the Front Desk comment about him, but he did, and we're both wondering if we did something wrong to the staff. Anyway, that's just it.)

I found price is expensive vs the room type offered. I stayed in a suite junior in Laval for this price. I absolutely loved the restaurant when I had my breakfast. It is a cozy, natural looking place.

Because of a late arrival to Halifax we decided to spend the first night of our maritime vacation at the BW Chocolate Lake. This is a nice hotel nothing spectacular except it's location on Chocolate Lake. Clean room with all the amenities, we had a quiet restful night. The included buffet breakfast was very good and included everything you could want for breakfast. We would stay here again.

The hotel is nice, but appears to have been built at different times. To get to our room, we had to take a luggage cart through a long, narrow, uphill hall to get to an elevator. When we exited the elevator, we had to get the luggage cart through more narrow, angled halls only to find that the hall outside of our room had four stairs going down to the hall. That meant that we had to unload the cart and carry everything down the hall to our room. Not an easy job. The room was nice, clean and overlooked the water.

We travelled in this week for meetings. I ended up booking last minute, so of course could not find anything available in Dartmouth where the meetings were held so ended up booking a Queen room here instead. I was definitely impressed for the most part. Sure the hotel was out of our way but it is located pretty close to loads of venues that can be found on Quinpool. When checking in their staff was insanely helpful and friendly, even giving us directions to the place the meeting would be held. Lobby is beautiful! We entered our room and were pretty impressed, even though I had booked late and ended up with a basic queen room we had a small kitchenette in room. The room we were in was laid out like pretty much every other hotel room we've ever stayed in, which was fine. Pool, hot tub, gym & arcade area are awesome, and CLEAN, just like the rest of the place! I cannot stress enough that this place was pretty much spotless! We were also pretty impressed by the breakfast that is served in the restaurant each morning, they had an awesome selection to choose from! They also have a sign in the lobby that tells you which times are busiest for breakfast. If you're in for business, or don't have lots of time to spare I recommend hitting up the breakfast bar early in the morning between 6:30-7:30! We sadly didn't have view of the lake from our room, however we did spend some time outside in the evenings sitting by the lake, which is beautiful! We even managed to feed a bunch of ducks that were out there one night. I also loved the fact that housekeeping was friendly and helpful as well! We stayed 2 nights and I was easily able to opt for just having clean towels instead of a full clean of our room! My only issue was the bed, oh lord we are used to a plush, king sized bed and I felt as though I was sleeping on a brick haha! I'm not sure if all of their beds are like this, as I said I booked late and took what I could get. For people who like a firm mattress I am sure they would be in heaven, but for myself it was a little too hard for a good nights sleep!

We try to stay at the best Western Hotels as they are consistent in service and amenities. Chocolate Lake Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia was therefore no surprise in its welcome, décore and amenities. What I do suggest is that they amend their directions to the hotel and add that at the bottom of the 0 Exit they say stay to the right at the T-junction which becomes Joseph Howe Road, no street signs could be seen. Continue to the Armdale Rotary and take the first on right. Eventually after much driving around we found the hotel and were welcomed warmly. Unfortunately there is little space to unload luggage and to check-in. Parking available on the lower level. We were welcomed nicely. The room was a quite a bit smaller than we are used to at Best Westerns but for 1 night it was okay. Mostly twin rooms for $10+ per night are on the view side of the hotel. We had a lovely meal in the dining room (cannot charge lunch or dinner on your hotel account); very good seafood chowder and beer battered fish and chips, very popular. The fish was good but the French fries were just warm and a little soft, have been overcooked too. The wine we had was Nova Scotian. Service was quite good. Breakfast the next morning, included, was a surprise as the eggs had been freshly scrambled, the sausage patties gluten free, and a surprise, baked beans were on the menu. Other usual items. All in all a good stay.

The hotel isn't too close to the riverwalk but is on a lovely lake. It earns the Plus designation. The restaurant breakfast, included, was very good and the dinner menu also good. Sauteed haddock was excellent.

Checking into this hotel is kind of odd to be honest. There are no temporary spots for people to be able to pull into so when the front lot is full you have to park somewhere else and walk to the lobby. If you were to park at the actual entrance you would be blocking the lane for everyone. I'm surprised the fire department hasn't done anything about it. We had a great view of the lake but it felt like we were staying in a drive-up motor lodge instead of a Best Western Plus. Maybe if you get a room in the tower it wouldn't feel like that. The staff were very friendly, the continental breakfast was quite extensive and the hotel itself was in a great location to get to pretty much everything in Halifax. It was a nice stay and hotel but it did not feel like a Best Western Plus to me.

We are a retired couple vacationing in Nova Scotia. This hotel was great. Large, clean room with all the amenities - micro, fridge, TV, Wi-Fi. There was a small kitchenette (with) sink and faucet. A small amount of cooking supplies, but not any plates, glasses, or silverware. We had a Queen bed. There was a table and 2 chairs. Loved the down comforter. Dinner in the hotels dining room was delicious as was the breakfast buffet. Hotel has views of the lake, but not for swimming. There was also an inside pool and exercise room.

Second time I book this hotel and they mix up the dates. This time was the Kicker as had just arrived from a 12hr drive fro Ottawa. They offered me a room as everything else in the city was book but then realized that I had no shower and was addressed to shower in the pool area. Last time I stay here and I don't recommend that you do either.

My wife and children stayed at this hotel while I was in hospital having surgery. I did stay with them for a few nights before I went into the hospital and one night after being discharged from the hospital late in the afternoon. Let me just say this, THE STAFF ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have stayed here several times before while I have been comig back and forth to Halifax for my surgery consults and multiple surgeries. The hotel itself is very clean and spacious. They have a lot to offer here as well like a pool, hot tub, Arcade/Games Room, Restaurant, wifi and so on. They also have a convenience store and Subway right next door which is really handy. The best thing too, is that they have a wonderful Hot and Cold Breakfast which is INCLUDED with your stay. It has all kinds of items on it as well from scrambled eggs, hash browns, meat to toast, bakery goods, bagels, yogurt and so on, really awesome. So, the big thing here is, the STAFF. They are truly amazing and very thoughtful. They treat you like a friend and always interested in what is going on with you. When the staff found out that I was being discharged from the hospital and we had decided to stay the night instead of travel home, they all came together to start making arrangements for my arrival back to my families room. They wanted to make sure I was as comfortable as could be. They didn't have any cots available and wanted to make sure I was in my bed alone without one of our children (I had back surgery and my kids always move and kick in their sleep) so they asked if it would be acceptable for them to bring in multiple duvets and comforters to make my son a bed on the floor so he could be comfortable and I could have the bed to myself. They also had staff come back to our room to change the bedding on my bed and thoroughly clean the room again (this was at the end of the day for cleaning staff and they had already cleaned our room once that day). They also brought extra pillows for myself. They offered to make arrangements for our dog if we wnated. They had even offered to put us in a bigger room but we decided with everything we had and being one night that we were ok where we were. From the moment they found out I was coming back, we became their first and main priority between the front desk staff, supervisor and cleaning staff. My wife said that they dropped what they were doing and made her, myself and our children their first and only priorty, very touching to be honest. To top it off, the front desk staff called when I returned and welcomed me back and then called later to check in on us. It truly was moving and appreciated to have them do so much and offer so much. They even offered to send someone to pick me up at the hospital and have someone look after my bags and assist me getting into the room. This truly is the amazing service that you get from the staff at the Best Western Chocolate Lake. If you are looking for a place to stay in Halifax for any reason, choose The Best Western Chocolate Lake as you will not be disappointed. Thank you so much to all the staff.

Good hotel. Nice view of lake we were in 8th floor. Rooms clean, free Wi-Fi and comfortable beds. Breakfast good with choice of hot or cold menu. Somewhat hard to find due to curves and hills on road.

We stayed one night at this hotel and were very pleased with how clean it was. So many hotels have grime around the bathroom baseboards......not the case here. The bed was comfortable and as an added bonus, the window opened allowing us to have fresh air overnight. We needed to open the window as the room had been sprayed with some sort of scent that we found unpleasant. There was coffee making equipment and a mini fridge. The hotel is located in a residential area next to a well used lake. We saw folks canoeing and swimming that evening...quite an attractive scene. We had their included breakfast and it was very good. They offered hot and cold items on their buffet and they kept it well stocked. You could eat out on the patio overlooking the lake or inside. There was only one problem that we encountered and that was with patio access. You have to step out on a big concrete step and then step down from that. I have very sore knees and found that difficult to manage. Installation of a rail would help alleviate the difficulty with access. We noted that young families with strollers had problems with the steps too.

I like Best Westerns, and this one did not change that one bit. Right on the lake, yes you can swim, and clean rooms with loads of amenities. Pool/hot tub/arcade/breakfast we did it all. The really great part was the proximity to downtown, so easy to get to with a very short drive. Price was right as well. Loved the old fashioned pinball machines and photo booth! Only downside, very busy with wedding - parking all gone by time we got to hotel a few nights, and breakfast lines HUGE. We ended up going really early which isn't what you want on vacation however the patio seating made up for it.

We enjoyed our stay here. It was clean and comfortable. The price included a hot breakfast with lots of choices. We also had lunch and dinner at the restaurant and found the food to be very good. The lake view is beautiful. We found the pool a little on the cold side and the hot tub a little too hot but it might just have been us. We would definitely stay here again.

I travel about 3 weeks a month for work and stay in many, many hotels. This Best Western is very nice and the original room they gave me was top third of all Best Westerns. What happened the 1st morning of my 3 day stay is why I have given them such a poor rating. I was working in my room and the maid knocked to service it - although I had a do not disturb sign. I said "no need" today I am fine. She said that they have me checking out today. I went to the front desk and showed them my email confirmed reservation for three nights and the manager stated "sorry but our system only has you for one night". Even with my confirmation email she said I could not stay in my room and had to move to an older room outside of the main building with 2 small beds verses my king size. I could not believe it but she would not agree to simply let me stay in my room. To the Motel portion for me it seems. So I packed up all my belongings, shut down my 2 laptops, ended my conference call I was on and moved rooms. Not an easy move either as it required me to move my rental car also. What started as a positive experience and a 4 or 5 out of 5 went down hill immediately by a very poor management decision and a corporate traveller being moved due to their mistake, not mine. Well when winter hits Halifax and the tourists traffic dwindles, I will be spending my companies money elsewhere. And we even had a board room booked for regional meeting. Next meeting we won't be here. Interesting enough when I first checked in there was a another business traveler having issues with his room rate from the email confirmation he had.

Loved it. Our second visit. Nice restaurant, nice patio. The breakfast was nothing special. Powdered eggs 4 day in a row was way too much for us. Bathroom supplies were scare. I had to phone the front desk for a shower cap, then they told me I have to down and get it from them.

I returned to this hotel for a 4th visit, despite my hesitations from my last visit (I had written about an extreme foul odour in room 718. Didn't stay in that room, so no problem.). I had read about Cocoa's retirement in another review, and it is true. She retired after 10 years of service with the hotel, and now lives with one of the hotel managers. It was weird not seeing her there. Lakeside view is really nice, and hotel in a quiet area outside of downtown Halifax, which isn't very far away at all. You can easily get to Peggy's Cove on the same road the hotel is on. Room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated as was the whole hotel. Hotel staff was friendly and welcoming. Bathroom a little on the small side. Beds/pillows were comfortable. Great view of Chocolate Lake. Big TV. Restaurant on site – a little pricey but food was good. Breakfast (included) was served buffet style in the on-site Lakeside Grill restaurant and consisted of sausages, eggs, french toast, hash browns, toast etc. hot and cold cereal, juice, coffee, tea, pasties, muffins and fruit. It gets quite busy just before 9am.

great place to stay close to everything nice view rooms are very nice great parking food is good and service is great plus I have two dogs so they stay for free very relaxing hotel I would recommend it highly

This hotel is located a short cab ride from downtown in a nice little neighbourhood with a view of the nearby lake. This hotel was great on every account. Even though there were two weddings going on there, it wasn't too loud, and we were able to find convenient parking. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and friendly, and the chocolate lab that hands out by reception was adorable. The rooms are well appointed and clean. This isn't a luxury hotel, but it's the next best thing and you get excellent value for your money. I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Halifax.

We stay here each time we go to Halifax to visit my son and his family ..I's clean staff are friendly ,breakfast is served from 630 to 10 and it has a lot to chose from ..Helpful staff in the dinning room .It has a fitness room and pool I did not use it but did go down to have a look .

Good, clean room with a lovely view of Chocolate Lake. Great breakfast choices included. Staff friendly and helpful. Pet friendly, only one complaint was due to our pet we were relegated to a certain area of the hotel for our room choice. This resulted in us having to do some stairs to access our room. We had a fair amount of luggage so we used the trolley to take our luggage from the front door and were stunned to find that we had to unload everything and haul that down stairs and then back up them when checking out so that was not good! Add the fact that I am handicapped and stairs prove difficult at the best of times made the stay challenging.

Stayed here for 5 days in July and found everything about the place welcoming.The staff were very friendly and seemed to really enjoy what they were doing.They have a tradition of a chocolate Lab who is getting a little old but very friendly and usually hangs out around the lobby area.The buffat breakfast was the best selection I have ever seen in this setting and once again the staff were great.We had view of the lake but you can walk around the grounds or jump in the lake for a swim.They also had a nice little indoor pool.

Pet friendly so be prepared to share area outside with dogs. Beautiful retreat like setting on the edge of Halifax. Good value breakfast, simple but decent, would have preferred bacon one day instead of sausage patties both days. Friendly staff. Some inconsiderate noisy wedding guests were the only issue but not hotel's fault.

Nice views if your room is lakeside- hotel does not pay attention to specific requests through booking.com. Breakfast is average at best- eating area is far too small and if you don't get to dining area by 8:30 be prepared to stand in line. Bathroom counter space is too small to keep toiletries etc. Carpets need to be replaced. Parking can be problematic at times

The front office staff were very helpfull, answered all our questions Ann pointed out areas of interest for us. The continental breakfast was diverse with a good selection of hot and cold item. Only issue is the menus was the same every day and if you there more than one day it becomes quite repititious? The layout of the hotel is a little convoluted over three floors and took som time getting used to

This hotel is close to the highway and malls. It is 30 minutes from Peggy's cove. The staffs are courteous and very helpful. There is also a restaurant that is open until 10 pm, which I found very convenient and meals are delicious and reasonable in price. The buffet breakfast offers a wide variety of choices,excellent place to stay! Marlene

We stayed five nights while we vacationed in Halifax.The rooms were clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable. The hot breakfast buffet was delicious and satisfied our four sons. The pool was cool and refreshing. The location was excellent. Just next to the traffic circle and easy to get to Sunday Mass, Dalhousie university, and the waterfront. Staff were friendly, recommended a family restaurant only 5 mintues away so we walked.

My husband and I were pleased with the hotel overall. The room was nice and clean. I didn't expect the lakeside view to mean looking out at a flat roof, with an air compressor or air conditioner on it, but if we looked beyond that, we did see some water. We were extremely disappointed to learn at check in that the pool was not available for use. It was actually all dug up and probably had been for some time. I have MS and after traveling all day I was looking to relax my tight muscles in the pool. We found no place to access the lake behind the property. We enjoyed the breakfast both days and the staff was very pleasant. I Usually love Best Westerns and 3 nights or 5 in Canada were at Best Westerns. A heads up on the pool would have made all the difference in the world and been appreciated. On the other hand, for the first time in my life (at 63), I forgot to leave the maid a tip when we left ! I thought of it hours later after we left the area, and called to see if we could add a charge on the card we used to express our appreciation of her work. It could not be done.

Hotel was very nice and good location for a friends get together. Did not want to be downtown but gave us the opportunity to do so as located not a long distance from shopping and sight seeing. Beautiful view of the lake and a nice balcony to sit on and relax. Very nice breakfast included and the restaurant food was great

The outside of this hotel looks dingy, but the lobby was very nice. The rooms look good, but ours had a strong moldy smell, especially in the bathroom. It was very clean. We had lots of towels and wash clothes which was really appreciated. The staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast area was very big and open... you also had the option to eat on the patio over looking the beautiful lake. There were good breakfast options and the food was good.

It is under my expectation. The room is quite old and a bit smelly. Not much breakfast food variety. Luckily the bed and pillows are comfortable... And staff at front desk are friendly and efficient. Compare to the Comfort Hotel at Bayer Lake, I am a bit disappointed to this so call Best Western "Plus" Hotel....

Comfortable. A nice get away with great food and good rooms. Missed the dog this trip. Busy at breakfast time but worth the wait. We own a B&B and we know it's impossible to please everyone but this place does its best!

We stayed here recently on trip to Halifax. Our room had a wonderful view and the breakfast was very good. The beds were extremely soft and we had a wonderful rest after along day of flights and sight seeing.

Was part of a wedding party from Toronto and stayed at this hotel for four nights. Check in was quick and front desk staff were friendly and helpful. First room assigned was in the 200's and had a urine smell and was next to the exit door, which I requested not to be near. If I am not mistaken this hotel is dog friendly and requests cannot always be met. Upon notifying the front desk we were assigned a room on the seventh floor. Room was perfect. Clean, air conditioning and water pressure worked well. It was quite, could not hear our neighbours. Breakfast was very good and plentiful. Hot and cold items. Dinner at the hotel was tasty and big portions were given. It was in a good location to travel to all the tourist sites. I would recommend and stay at this hotel again.
