"weekend stay with the Dog"

5
19/09/2018

myself and husband booked this hotel last minute as we were travelling up for a family birthday and needed to bring the dog. we arrived around 11pm and went to reception. the first thing i noticed was the warmth of the fire place that was lit and welcoming. we had to wait around 10 minutes for someone to come past to check us in. unfortunately they were having some computer troubles so the gentleman gave us our key and asked if it would be an inconvenience if we popped back in the morning. i said no that's fine. we stayed in the stable rooms, they said there was parking but when we got there we found that everyone had parked awkwardly and far rather spaced apart so my husband left the car at the main reception and walked over instead. the rooms were clean and well furnished. there was tea and coffee facilities and the bathroom was clean and well kept, they even left a letter to our dog with walks around the grounds, a water bowl and treats. on the sunday we walked around the grounds with the dog and it was really nice although they could use a bit of TLC there was rubbish dumped in corners etc and it made me sad to see as this place has so much potential. we didn't eat or drink here as we were with family in Grantham but we would have. i would stay again if we were bringing the pooch.

StokeRochfordH, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear J Moore, thanks for your lovely review. We're all pleased that you all enjoyed your stay, including your 'pooch'.We all hope to be welcoming you back very soon. best regards

"Afternoon tea-gone downhill"

18/09/2018

Having previously (before BW took over) visited stoke rochford for afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it, I decided to revisit and take my granny for her birthday. Beautiful drive up to the building-albeit as other reviews state very potholey. We were served the afternoon tea on slate plates (which I thought was disappointing and not in keeping with the traditional rooms and setting) and then after 5 minutes they brought out a small warm scone each, by the time we had finished the sandwiches the scones were cold. They were also very very dry and couldn't have been freshly made-literally taste like the ones you get in a shop pack of 6. (On previous visit scones were brought out at the end so we could eat them warm and we had 2 each and both were huge) The cakes were ok-not bad but nothing special. The whipped cream dessert in the glass dish however was delicious. Service was pretty much non existent after your given your food, no one came to check and when we went to leave I hovered around the reception area to say thank you (politeness) but the receptionist carried on her conversation with a staff member and so after waiting a few minutes we left. Such a disappointment as I really think considering the location the afternoon tea could be amazing, but unfortunately don't think I would recommend or return.

StokeRochfordH, Guest Relations Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Emmgem, thanks for your review. It is always nice to get feedback from a returning guest. As you know, our afternoon teas are really popular, and always well received. We will always make sure that we enhance our guest experience and your comments will help us to do this.

"Typical Best Western"

17/09/2018

I suppose we should have had an idea what our 2 night stay would bring as soon as we turned into the main gates? Trying to avoid the continuous pot-holes might have given us an indication of what was to come? Firstly, given the wrong room... (when visiting a Best Western I never unload luggage beforehand as often given a completely different room from the one booked)... Then of course, had to wait for the correct room to be cleaned. Once inside the 'new' room it soon became apparent that all wasn't well... several light bulbs missing...window faulty + more! However, as one of the main reasons for booking was the swimming pool complex, prior to dinner we ventured up to the venue, which is several hundred yards away. Once inside it was apparent this also wasn't as advertised?... pool in dire need of refurbishment, green algae on sides and canopy Jauzzii out of commission, Steam room...out of commission...not very happy!! We left a short while afterwards and headed to the bar, as I had spotted a 'Real Ale' pump whilst waiting for the room to be changed? WRONG!!!..... 'sorry, the real ale is OFF'!!! Quickly looked at the Bar menu...quickly decided to eat out in Grantham!! That'll teach me for not reading the many adverse comments on TripAdviser before booking! Faulty Towers at its best!

StokeRochfordH, Guest Relations Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Keith, thanks for your review. We wish you had brought your observations to our attention at the time as we would have tried to resolve any issues there and then. As the leisure centre is independently operated, I will pass on your comments.

"Afternoon Tea Visit .."

16/09/2018

I bought a voucher for my friends birthday. The pictures do not lie, the place is amazing when you drive into it. The afternoon tea was great.. the food was amazing & plenty of it. The service however was shocking. Me & my friend both like a lot of tea! Well at first the first teapot came out but with no milk, took us 3 attempts asking the waiter for it.. finally it arrived. Half way through the afternoon tea we asked for another pot of tea, again another 3 attempts & by the 3rd asking, he completely forgot we asked. Once we had finished we literally just left, nobody said goodbye or asked if we had enjoyed it. Plates left on other tables for a good hour. Food great, service shocking.

StokeRochfordH, Guest Relations Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Amy, thanks for your review. We're really pleased that you found Stoke Rochford Hall and your Afternoon Tea food to be great. We will look into your comments regarding service and ensure that it is up to our usually very high standards in future.

"Could be amazing"

A lovely hotel set in beautiful grounds. Friendly service, but falls short of achieving excellence by lacking that real focus. Hence, for example, we waited at reception without acknowledgement for a minute but thereafter received friendly treatment. The swimming pool is a short walk from the main hotel and is a good size and appealing for children. The food is also short of top class but is reasonable value.

"Lovely surroundings and a charming manor."

12/09/2018

We arrived here as a party of 8 and to be honest, after reading some reviews, we were not expecting much. However we were pleasantly surprised as we were treated at reception with a smile and a professional manor from the nice lady on the reception desk. We then went to the bar to wait for the other members of our party and had a few afternoon drinks. The same day as we arrived was a wedding reception so we, judging by recent reviews, were expecting the service to drop during the oncoming busy night. Arriving for dinner we were served promptly and the food was excellent, although it quickly became apparent that the hotel was , in my opinion, understaffed. This was not a too much of a problem as we were able to get to the bar easily enough to get drinks. The rest of the evening was great as well because we had the all inclusive package the drinks were free, and not too much of a wait.....even though the bar staff would have benefitted from another couple of bodies. Breakfast was buffet style which I prefer anyway and I could not find fault. If you are the sort of person that looks under the bed for fluff and dust on the windows etc and finds reasons to complain about minor things, this is not for you. The building is a historic Manor House and because of this carries the burden of age, as some of our party do, and does not have the clinical feel of a new hotel. Enjoy it for what it is and you'll have a great experience. Well done to all the staff especially, Kennedy , Steven, Kira, Jenny and Hanna. The only reason I did not give 5* was because the hotel does need some additional staff, a few general repairs.

StokeRochfordH, Guest Relations Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Terry L, thanks for your review. I'm pleased you found us to be 'lovely and charming' and that you all enjoyed your stay. Your appreciation will be passed on to the team and we all hope to be welcoming you back very soon.

"WHAT A GEM"

11/09/2018

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this amazing hotel. After driving up a long drive through beautiful grounds you are met with the most stunning building Check in was simple with directions to our room and information about meal times and directions to restaurant and bar areas. Our room in the courtyard was very clean and comfortable, with everything you would expect. The bathroom was on the small side but perfectly adequate. We had Sandwiches in the bar on the first evening, breakfast on both mornings and a evening meal all were very good. Every member of staff we met were friendly, pleasant and very helpful. The building itself is stunning so much history and amazing things to see. The staff are very knowledgable about it and are happy to tell you lots about it. The grounds are also lovely for a walk around.

Dear Amanda, thanks for your 'Gem of a review'! It is so nice to be able to tell the team that our guests expectations are being exceeded in all areas. We all hope we will be welcoming you back very soon. best regards

What a gem! Stayed in a mansion room, very tastefully decorated, good large bathroom with excellent walk in big shower. The gardens are amazing, lovely walks or just to sit and look at the views. The house is very interesting. Fantastic library and orangery. The meals we have had, breakfast and Dinner, have been excellent. All of the staff have been helpful, friendly and welcoming. Er

Very imposing building set in its own grounds, but the drive was terribly potholed and a real mess. Checking in was OK but neither the password of the WiFi or the whereabouts of the pool were mentioned, which I would have expected. My mansion room was very spacious, together with large ensuite and dressing room. Dinner excellent and breakfast OK, although it was buffet style with no freshly cooked food.

Had a 2 night stay at this delightful Victorian mansion set in acres of landscaped gardens. The stay included breakfast and evening meals and nightly entertainment .Meals were plain cooking and filling and mostly delicious. The evening entertainment was held in a fit for purpose arena building with a small bar .Both nights were tribute acts and a few 60,s and 70,s classics that got the guests up and dancing .There is a leisure centre a short walk from the mansion in the grounds .This comprised of a gym ,swimming pool and tennis courts and was well staffed and clean .

Went here for Fathers Day and even booked for lunch. Arrived to find there was only a carvery. Had a pint and also had a Prosseco served in a wine glass, unusual.. Once a long time ago this must have been a fantastic place but now seems to be more aimed at the corporate and conference market and budget accommodation. Was told it used to owned by the Army. Would need fortunes spending on the place to bring it up to the calibre it portrays to be. Maybe one day..

"Friendly Fawlty Towers"

21/08/2018

We went on a buyagift offer which is probably the only saving grace. The buidling is impressive but then English Heritage paid for it so not sure why the rest of it is in a sad state. Staff were all great. Friendly is not a problem here. Service levels is. The room was average and tired though clean. Taking a shower was risky given the water supply though as if someone else nearby flushed the loo, you would be scalded. The pool facilities are not part of the hotel but dont bother - they are dire but lets get back to the service. There was a wedding on but there was only one bar and the poor girls behind it were not only working the bar but serving the wedding so were run ragged. The bar room was nice and the grounds were in good order so well worth a walk but lets get to the main event - the evening meal! We had booked a time online but they didnt have it on arrival so we booked it again. When we went to the restaurant there were no staff in site but after about 10 minutes, someone arrived and seated us with a menu - no drinks offered and no drinks menu. Afte about another 15 minutes we were asked what we would like and asked for a drinks menu which didnt come. We asked for it again and ordered a bottle of wine. In the meantime our main turned up which was pretty tasty. I had to again ask for our drink which turned up during our last mouthful of main. Our dessert took maybe another 30 minutes to arrive but we were one of the lucky ones. There were grumbles all around the room. One lady had mouldy bread (she was bragging though as no-one else in the restaurant was served a bread roll at all). Another couple were told that the chef had gone so they could not have the main they had ordered. They'd aldready been there over an hour. Free drinks and offers galore were being made all over the place. No-ne really knew what was going on and most of the staff were teens who can hardly be held to blame. It's a shame as the venue is incredible - that's where it ends though. We heard over breakfast the poor bride complaining as so much had gone wrong with the wedding. Such a fantatastic place let down by dire management.

Stoke Rochford H, Guest Relations Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review

"Stoke Rochford HELL"

Best bit of this hotel was driving away from it! THE worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune of staying in. Before check in I'd already experienced issues with reservations and reception not helping with the reservations and being ignored on numerous occasions. Great start. Check in we were given 2 keys for the rooms that we asked to be interconnected. The Receptionist tried over charging us on the pre authorisation because they hadn't bothered to update the reservation. We were then sent on our way to THE most depressing hotel rooms we've ever seen. The first door had a whole pane of smashed glass, and by smashed I mean dangerous and could of filled out the door at any time. Entered the room, grim, chlosterophobic and depressing. Interconnecting room door was locked and clearly hadn't been opened despite numerous requests per arrival. Went back to reception to ask for two room changes, the two receptionists couldn't tear themselves away from their private conversation and just left me waiting until I eventually interrupted. Was given two different keys to rooms that weren't near each other (I asked for interconnecting rooms so I had help with my baby) they were on the 1st floor with no lift, how I was meant to get a pushchair up there alone was beyond me. The room had clearly just had maintenance, it absolutely stunk of paint fumes, great for a child's little lungs. the tv didn't work at all in any way Out of 3 light bulbs, 1 worked. The dust on the lamps was so thick it obviously hadn't been cleaned for weeks upon weeks. The hot water either scalded you then the next second covered you in ice cold water. The other room was clearly by a boiler or generator, my parents got no sleep all night because it was so so loud all through the night I asked a waitress if she could get me some whole milk for my baby, blank look! I described blue milk, full fat milk, she walked off, returned and told me they had no milk? Really?! I then asked an older gent who was happy to get my child some milk. I asked for a drinks menu at the BAR, to be told I haven't got one go ask reception?! Checkout what a delight. We were kept waiting around 10 minutes if not 15 to be ignored because the receptionist was on the phone, no acknowledgement no smile, nothing just ignorance. She only ended the call because she told them to ring back. The Bill was presented and what a shock, over charged yet again for services we didn't receive or request. Then we were asked for the pre auth slip? I know fine well two copies are printed on check in, it should be on the check in / reg card not up to the guest to present it on check out. We eventually paid the £150 we owed however that didn't and hasn't sat well with me ever since. What we paid for was not the service or room that warranted £75 per room. I'm still waiting for someone to respond to me with the GM's email but shock!! I haven't received anything! I have huge understanding for hospitality staff, I understand the running of a hotel and how hard it can be but my god did this place take the biscuit at all levels. It should be ashamed. My advice, stay clear from here and book somewhere else.

Stoke Rochford H, Guest Relations Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Rachael H, thank you for your review. I'm sorry we did not meet your expectations. We are, as you alluded to, investing in the process of decorating and upgrading several rooms and areas through the hotel. We have also just recruited two new operations managers to the team and are looking to enhance our guest experiences to much greater levels.

The drive was long and full of holes. Beautiful looking building. Pleasant staff but totally clueless. Walking round like headless chickens. They are very young and there needs to be far more staff. Bride on Saturday asking why her venue wasn't ready? Furniture covered in dust, we went out Friday and came back to a room not services. Asked reception why, oh it should have been, it wasn't, told them not to bother. Breakfast on Saturday, half tables occupied, half piled high with dirty dishes. Requested clearance there's no one to do it, when did start took one item at a tine, get a bloody tray! Food passable. Ham egg and chips in bar , 8 chips, congealed egg and packet ham! Not impressed. Grounds are lovely. Sort out your staff. Sort out your cleaning, tables and chairs in bar covered in dust.

Stoke Rochford H, Guest Relations Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Jancmedwaykent, thanks for you review. We have just appointed two new operations managers to add leadership, training and direction to our team which will enhance our guest experiences. Hi were a gay maried couple stayed in many hotels/many countries.stayed at Rochford hall sunday...ok let me start after booking and reading all of these uncalled for reviews we were certainly not looking forward to our stay.in fact we had covered ourselves by provisionally booking in somewhere else. I think we have worked out why so many people are disappointed. if you look at the reviews they nearly all sayy what an impressive approach and an impressive building stoke Rochford hall is .that's it....they think that they are going to be staying in some impressive stately home..what they forget is that when they booked.they paid 3/4,star prices for a 3/4.star hotel not a 5 star luxury country estate .there is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel for the prices that you pay .the staff are warm.friendly and accommodating. the room which we had.in the courtyard was adiqute.clean and we'll presented. .the breakfast good and sufficient.. And the public areas well furnished and we'll presented in fact overall we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.yes it is a little bit dqted.but that somehow adds a bit of charm.so remember when you read some of these unnecessary reviews.remember what you paid when booking .TImothy [email protected]

09/08/2018

I booked a two night stay for myself and my husband after receiving a buyagift voucher from my family. After being poorly it looked the perfect place for a break. It took us two hours to drive there and when we arrived were not disappointed. The building and surrounding gardens were beautiful and authentic. We saw no reason to leave the premises during our stay and enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of the surroundings. The staff were extremely professional, attentive and nothing was too much. Continental Breakfast was first class with any dietary requirements being met. We ate in the restaurant both evenings and the food was absolutely delicious, 5 star, still want the butternut squash recipe ??. Rachel RB Bradley, Operations Manager, you are a legend ?? Thank you to all the staff who work so hard and made our stay so memorable and special

"5 star staff, 2 star experience"

08/08/2018

Absolutely stunning grounds but the room we stayed in was in dire need of repair. We were in the stables (room 49). I believe the main hotel is probably rightly 3 star but the stable rooms are not up go par (yet). It is very generously spaced, with the bonus of a kitchenette included. The bathroom was in very poor condition; the side panel of the bath was smashed (& had been convered up with a strategically placed towel) & there was black mould along the shower head, which we scrubbed off ourselves. The shower dripped all night, which was very audible even through closed doors. We had to unplug the fridge it made do much noise at night (but we were pleased to have one). The room has very little sound proofing, if it wasn't banging (or the slightest movement) from other guests keeping us awake, it was the pigeon roosting in the roof. To add insult to injury, after an awful nights sleep, the fire alarm went off on our last night & we had go be evacuated. This enlightened me to the fact there were very few guests there, so I did think it was poor they'd not placed us in a better room (in the main building). Walking around the hotel on our first night, we kept stumbling across piles of discarded/half drunk drink glasses, which looked as though they hadn't been cleaned away from a weekend party. The pool table room was out of action & the staff were clearly struggling. We bumped into a poor gentleman in the late evening cleaning up tables of afternoon teas which they'd not had a chance to clean up that day. I really could not fault the staff at all. The state of the hotel was clearly down to the lack of staff, not the quality. Dinner & breakfast was shambollic but, again, this was very clearly down to a lack of staff too. They all worked tirelessly & even very kindly assisted me when I spilled wine in my room. The staff are 5 star, unfortunately the hotel is not. That being said, the grounds, hall and surrounding area are absolutely stunning, so I would stay there again. I hope I'd see a vast improvement in the future. The very least I'd suggest is employing more staff (though a tea/coffee machine at the breakfast area would alleviate extra demands on staff) at the most, I'd suggest they start renovating a few rooms (or lowering the price of them).

"Beautiful mansion but lacks consistency in service"

08/08/2018

We booked for two nights mid week using a buy a gift voucher. Service on arrival at reception was very poor. We were told to go to the courtyard with minimal information provided.. Our room was tiny, bathroom light not working etc. I complained so we were shown two further rooms, neither of which were reasonable but we accepted as it was late and we were tired. I complained to the manager the following morning and thankfully, we were given a free upgrade to a suite within the mansion itself. This was beautiful and a great experience. Overall, I think the service is not consistent across the staff. Breakfast service was good. But not so at the pool, despite the attendant having seen me, I waited 10 minutes for him to sign me in, in the end I gave up. Be aware when booking using vouchers such as buyagift as you will be given a lower standard room. Overall, we had a lovely stay despite the problems on the first night.

I chose this venue as I had been on a course a few years ago. I remembered the beautiful building and the surrounding settings. I was also attracted to the use of the swimming pool and jacuzzi. We arrived on the Wednesday, only to be told that they always close at 2.30 on that day. No mention had been made of this. The next morning we had planned to go swimming before breakfast but there was a sign to say that due to staff illness they would be closed. After complaining they got agency staff to open the pool. It was freezing, dirty and quite honestly I didn't want to spend time in it. The jacuzzi was also not working. The price of alcohol was astronomical and most of the staff uninterested. However the accommodation was pleasant, as was the cleaning staff. I certainly won't go again.

"Rather Deceptive photos on advert. Main Hotel is nice."

06/08/2018

The hotel has 3 sections . The main hotel which top class , the stables and woodlands. We chose the woodlands thinking it was bargain but it not the best. The Spa was not the best but since it was just for weekend the wife didn't mind. The golf course was good and challenging. Tough course. Be careful when leaving the Golf Course and exiting back on A1 !

Stoke Rochford Hall is a beautiful building with superb gardens. Stoke Rochford Hall hotel is the pits. We had 4 nights booked, had a room in the annexe. Had to turn down the first room as it had small single wardrobe and not one drawer for clothes. Not even a bedside cabinet. Accepted another small room with plenty of drawers. Next day Room not made up until 5 p.m. and then bed not made properly, just shuffled the duvet and not cleaned. Next day out all day, left note for a replacement toilet roll as none supplied, came home before 10.00p.m. after being out all day and also eating and drinking in hotel bar, to find room not touched, towels on bathroom floor for changing , bed unmade, what a shock. Have been all over the world and never ever experienced anything like this especially when one considers the top of the range prices charged for everything, we spent £22 on a sandwich, snack and two drinks. The staff are fine and I feel sorry that they have to cope under apalling conditions. There are not enough staff. It seems most people are short stay, business, or weddings, i Can't imagine anyone recommending this to friends and family. Read the reviews, they are awful and sadly they are true. Took swimwear for pool, it is not connected to the hotel you need to drive there, needless to say didn't use it, this is not a hotel with a leisure and spa complex as advertised. Really disappointed as this was a TLC break before going into hospital for an operation, would never ever come here again or to any of the other eight these people own. Why do Best Western link themselves to these, it sullies their reputation. a bedside cabinet

"Absolutely dire, one of the worst hotel stays I can remember. A tent offers more comfort and dignity"

01/08/2018

Approaching this hotel you'd think a treat was in store. The building looks stunning having been renovated by English Heritage in 2005 but unfortunately I think the public should get their money back, as this restoration has left us with one of the worst hotels I can personally remember staying in. I've stayed in tatty hotels but usually the staff know it is pretty bad and make an effort. Not so here. We appeared at 12.45 not expecting an early check in, but hey no harm in asking. That was flatly declined, not in a polite acknowledged way as one would hope after several hours driving, but in the very worst curt and dismissive way. This is a massive hotel building with numerous outbuildings, yet in the middle of nowhere. You'd expect they would have somewhere to leave luggage....wrong. Nowhere was offered and I was told it was not possible. Even the smallest, cheapest B&Bs I have stayed in at least offer this...four star hotels...certainly. Now bearing in mind staff knew we had a wedding as guests to prepare for, you'd think something would be done at say 13.45. Nope, not a chance in fact we were given less reassurance by being told there was no guarantee the rooms would even be ready for 2pm. Not the best effort. However a manager did offer a “teaching room”, yes you heard that right a BW Premier isn't a dedicated hotel as advertised but a teacher training college for the NUT! So we were faced with the prospect of getting ready in what was in effect a school classroom. We were saved by that as they did get their act together and we had a room by 2pm...not in the glamorous main hall but in some lodge outside the main building. Unfortunately this isn't a remotely 4 star standard room, or anything above a bedsit standard. It really is poor, the lodge is basically an old wooden shack of the WW2 training centre kind with a bit of brickwork. The mattress was completely knackered, left me with a sore back, with furnishings a hodge podge of stuff left seemingly by a local charity. The final straw for me was pulling out the feeble fan which last had an electrical safety check in...October 2003. This was no longer a rough around the edges stay. This was down right dangerous. I woke up and checked out as soon as I could. I never tried the breakfast, the restaurant looked like a school canteen and the bar I had earlier tried to access on arrival and directed to was shut. I checked out and happily bounced through the potholed ridden grounds safe in the knowledge they were never getting another penny of my money. Don't give them yours. I did complain. I honestly had no choice and although I got an apology which I appreciate, Best Western tried to excuse such a travesty with well...excuses. There is nothing that excuses a poorly run, badly maintained hotel that charges £95 a night. They are a big chain and can afford to invest in delivering better.

"Much better than many reviews suggest"

We booked a very reasonably priced couple of days at Stoke Rochford Hall through Buyagift. The hotel is easily accessible from the A1 and is approached via a long and scenic drive through the grounds. It seems that many reviewers decide at this point to get critical- you can focus on the view of the astonishing listed building or you can moan about the potholes. It is true that the paint in the public rooms might need refreshing but it is also true that the same rooms have huge windows overlooking the countryside, magnificent ceilings and deep leather Chesterfields. I can understand the frustrations experienced by some reviewers - we spent ten minutes waiting to check-in because no one was on reception - but the vast majority of the staff in, for example, the breakfast room or at the pool were friendly and efficient. The rooms in the stable block aren't posh but they are clean, the beds comfortable, the furniture might be a bit eclectic but our bathroom was fine. The buffet breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. There is the bonus of a leisure/fitness centre - some reviewers have commented that the roof of the pool is grubby, they are correct but the pool, the surroundings, the changing rooms are spotless and we had a lovely dip. Stoke Rochford Hall might be in need of some tlc but it is huge, beautiful and much more charismatic than a soulless if reliably uniform and more expensive Travelodge. So you have a choice- complain about the chip in the paintwork or enjoy the food, the facilities and the awesome building.

"Just about acceptable,!"

We stayed here overnight as we were attending a wedding nearby. This hotel is very accessible within a couple of minutes of the A1 and with a complete refurbishment could be a really nice place to stay. The drive is full of potholes which is synonymous with the general tired feeling of the place. The staff however try very hard and we had a nice sandwich / coffee lunch albeit the lounge was in need of a good clean. The receptionist found us a room to change our clothes for the wedding as we were early and when we came back in the late evening we found our room to be superficiallyclean and generally acceptable. Breakfast was a bit disorganised but again the staff tried hard. It would have been nice if saucers accompanied the cups - quite a basic requirement. The cooked breakfast didn't look that appetising especially the scrambled eggs which were swimming in grease but the cereals and toast were just about ok. Overall this place needs a complete overhaul or at least a deep clean but our stay was not as bad as many reviews implied.

"Weekend stay ...never again"

I stayed here for a wedding and the picturesque views as you drive up and entrance are amazing. It stops there. We got into our room of which was about 35 degrees in temperature with only 1 window to open the other was closed and unable to open due to it having painted shut. The tv did not work. The bathroom floor was filthy and the carpet in the bedroom was filthy. The dresser with glass top was smashed and dangerous. The room the next day we arrived back after the wedding - the towels were not replaced and the bed was not made up. I slept 5 hours both nights due to the temperature in the room . I have to say I never complain but this has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. When I went to reception on the Sunday morning to discuss with reception, I thought it would be best to do this when no one was around as we were there for a wedding and we didn't want to involve anyone from the wedding party. I discussed my issues with the two lady's on on the reception they told me that they were sorry and they don't really use that room we stayed in it must have been forgotten by the room maids. To which I replied 250 for two nights I am disgusted at your response.

We stayed over following neice's wedding at the hotel. Arrived early, room not ready until 2:00pm but offerred a spare room to use for changing. In any event our room was available before 2:00pm. Enjoyed pleasant light lunch in bar, soup, sandwich and two soft drinks quite expensive at £21.10. Wedding ceremony in the Orangery was delightful. Drinks outside,Pimms, beers etc were enjoyed by all. The wedding breakfast was served in Library dining room,it was excellent as were surroundings. Evening disco in Orangery was fun, albeit quite hot due to weather, for dancing.Excellent evening buffet. Our room in main house was clean, comfortable and quiet.Thunderstorms disrupted our sleep.Bathroom was efficient and spacious. Breakfast included in room rate was usual good hotel buffet. Fair value, delightful surroundings ,helpful staff. This hotel is clearly much improved from some of the previous reviews.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and were generally satisfied with our room which was a good size. The grounds are significant and the building has a good history with excellent architecture. It would make a good venue for tourists. The roof and particularly the chimneys are a fascinating sight. I can appreciate that the hotel must be very costly to run and not at all easy to manage. We did feel however that it was generally understaffed and the customers were neglected a little in favour of wedding guests and coach parties. There were also a number of improvements which could be made by walking around the property and just noting little things which needed attention like peeling paintwork etc. Generally however we would stay here again if we were coming this way and we're very pleased with the friendliness of the staff who did their best to be helpful

"Fantastic grade 2 listed hotel"

We had booked two nights B&B with Buyagift, to this hotel, and after reading a lot of negative reviews on this site , we wondered if we had done the right thing, we had been reserved a Courtyard room away from the main building, but three is plenty of parking close to our room which was on the second floor, I would advise anyone who has mobility problems to ask for a ground floor room on booking as there are stairs to the second floor rooms. Back to our arrival , from the drive the hotel is spectacular with plenty of parking, we checked in and the receptionist was lovely and very helpfull, we drove to our room which was clean bright, spotless room clean comfortable bed,, bathroom ok probably could do with a makeover, but was clean with plenty of towels etc, plenty of hot water when we needed to shower, the worst feature was our window which need to be totally refurbished. On our first night we decided to walk the gardens, which are extensive if rather brown, then so is the rest of the country, the gardens are tended by two hard working gardeners, who do a wonderfully job. We decided to eat in on our first evening, and ate in the bar, which has spectacular views . The menus is very limited but I was told it is being changed, our food was very good, they clearly have a very good chef, after our meal we sat in the huge, spectacular comfortable lounge, the receptionist brought us two folders with information about the hotel which was all most destroyed by fire in 2005, 12 million was needed to bring it back to its former glory, and this was overseen by English Heritage, who did a fine job. That night we had a pleasant nights rest very quiet, our breakfast next morning in the main building, in a stunning dining room was self service, but was very good , the food was hot , my only thought was they could do with a plate warmer, as we put hot food on cold plates, We spent our second day visiting some walled gardens, on arrival back at the hotel as we had eaten lunch time decided not to eat in , but noted the main restaurant was very, very busy, which must be a good sign. Next day after a good breakfast took our leave, We enjoyed our brief visit, which was fantastic value, the staff are hard working and very pleasant, and a credit to the hotel.

"Fawlty Towers would have been an improvement"

24/07/2018

From start to finish this was a disaster. This was their second chance. I stayed a few weeks earlier and complained about best western. It was the night of the England match and I arrived in time to do a bit of work, get dinner and watch the match. I asked on check in if they were showing the match and was told they were in the bar in the basement. I sat outside to do some work and then went to my room (which was lovely) to get changed. I went down to the basement to order some food and get settled and all the seats around the TV had all been taken. The bar wasn't open and there was a shutter around it. I went up-to reception to ask where I could get food and drink. Reception was empty. No one around. Me and another guest waited for at least 8 minutes - still no one. A member of staff walked past and she said someone will be here soon!!! Another 5 or 6 people came to wait also. In the end I saw someone with drinks and asked where he'd got them. He pointed to a room and I went there and it was a bar. The girl off reception was serving. I said do you know no ones on reception? She said yes it should be me but I'm doing bar too. The women who had past reception was there but wouldn't look me in the eye and when I spoke to her she tried to ignore me. I asked ‘are you in charge?' She said yes. I asked why she didn't see to people at reception and she replied she was seeing to another guest. I said the bar downstairs isn't open and no menus. A young man appeared with a trolley and she said he was going down and would be there in a minute when he had all the glasses!! I asked if food could be ordered down there and she said yes. I went back down and the shutters were still on bar and lots of angry people were waiting. He eventually came but when he served the first person he asked for 3 drinks and didn't have any of them!!!! I was very hungry by this time and there were lots of people waiting for food before me. I decided to give up and watch football in my room. I went back to room and asked if I could order from service. She said yes but I would have to order at the bar (aaaaargh) I went to bar (close to tears now as so angry) it was the woman 'in charge' I said I've given up now can I order food and drink for in my room. She took my order and I asked to sign for it but she had no idea how to use the till, so said she would sort it. Food came fairly quickly - steak and veg. I would give it a 4/10. Had garlic over everything (didn't say it would on menu) all over mushroom and tomato!! Breakfast food was good but miserable staff. The staff seem so unmotivated and very few of them. Such an amazing building. I won't be staying again and would avoid at all costs.

23/07/2018

My Wife and I stayed at the Stoke Rochford Hall hotel for just one night on Friday 20th July and we were very impressed with the magnificent main building and its grounds, the magic was however very quickly over as we started to see the poor cleanliness of the interior. As we went down to the restaurant for breakfast on Saturday morning we were shocked to see the very badly stained carpet that has clearly had many years of food spilled and trodden into its pile. This once beautiful building is living off its majestic past and is now looking very tired and in need of a good internal clean and some TLC.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Peter H, thanks for your review. We're pleased to hear that you were impressed with the magnificent building and grounds. We are always working towards improving our guests experience and we hope to be welcoming you back soon.

"Buy a gift voucher off my parents for Christmas"

4
17/07/2018

My parents got me and my boyfriend a two night break voucher from buy a gift and we chose to stay at Stoke Rochford Hall - I do have quite a lot of stuff to say so here it goes... Buy a gift voucher people all stay in the courtyard which has had a lot of bad reviews but it isn't as bad as people make out, it's not a long walk (on a rainy day I'd say otherwise) and the room was really big and had a kitchen which impressed me and I wish I knew prior as I'd have took picnic food as we went to Rutland water whilst we were there. Reception - the lady who seen to us was lovely however, she didn't tell us breakfast or dinner times which did affect us!! We arrived about 20:00 and so was asked if we wanted dinner but we'd already eaten, but my boyfriend did have a burger in the bar area. We went to reception on the morning to ask where breakfast was as we were not informed, we were told down the stairs (this was around 10:15 - 10:30) we went down and was seated. However the next day we arrived at 10:02 and were refused and said breakfast was finished!! Our break included breakfast so technically my parents had paid for it so we not my parents were happy about this. Fair enough it finishes at 10 but we should have been told at reception and the morning before! In day we went to Stamford and Rutland water which are both lovely. As we'd been able to have breakfast this day we had a big one and was not hungry when we were out. We decided at 17:00 that we wanted to go for dinner so got ready and went to reception and asked what time dinner started (by this time we were starving), we were told dinner didn't start until 19:00 which did seem a bit late, I was expecting 18:00 but anyway we said we'd go to the bar if they were serving food and reception said they were - we went to the bar and decided what we wanted to then be told they were not selling hot food yet so we both had to have salad (my boyfriend is a big eater too, this suited me but not him) -the biggest downfall was the food to us. I feel there should be information in the room or the reception staff should make this information clear. Also the breakfast staff should have told us the first day. The grounds are beautiful and the Manor is stunning. We used the gym and really enjoyed it, used the pool which was a nice size (not the best pool I've ever been to but good facilities).

17/07/2018

Driving up the long driveway and suddenly seeing this beautifully stunning building was amazing! Rachel on reception and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable with Tea, Coffee and biscuits. Wanted to book an evening meal but were to late they had fully booked so suggest you make a reservation when you book! The food was very nice especially afternoon tea :-) (need to book 24hrs before) Bar meals had a small selection and breakfast as very nice . They catered for vegetarians. The swimming pool and gym were ok but a good walk from the hotel. The swimming pool was a bit tired and situated in a polly tunnel. Could do with an update but pefectly functionable.

16/07/2018

We thought this would be a perfect weekend break, After seeing the website and the picture of the rooms in the main house we were conned into believing we were stopping there. Disapointed to find we were to be given rooms in a portakabin outside which need a lot of improvement. This place was advertised as 4 Star, unfortunately no Stars at all from me. We refused to pay, aswell as other guests. Very disapointing stay.

"Do not be taken in by the lovely photos"

16/07/2018

We stayed for one night on the 9th July, Our room was the worst we have ever stayed in. Avoid the stableyard complex. Enormous window on ground floor overlooking car park - no privacy. Whilst we were in our room , we had to keep the blinds (broken) down, and lights (several broken) on. Defects too numerous to mention. There was a conference taking place and we were told we could not change rooms. We expected the restaurant to be in an attractive area but it was in the basement - very hit with a view of the fire escape. Minimal choice on menu, and food was very ordinary. Gardens could be lovely but we felt we needed to start weeding. Despite filling out a complaint form, we have heard nothing from Best Western. Definitely not a premier hotel.

Dear Arthur, thank you for your review and your subsequent customer comment form. We would have liked an opportunity to discuss your comments at the time in order to resolve any issues.

"Beautiful stately home in great surroundings, for a bargain price"

15/07/2018

I recently booked a stay at Stoke Rochford and then read some of these reviews afterwards. I was admittedly quite nervous about the stay - expecting the worse. The reality is that the rooms in the "annex" or courtyard are exactly what you'd expect from any other hotel for similar prices - you will never get a 5 star stately room for these kinds of prices, so don't go here expecting that. What you actually get is a comfortable, clean and typical hotel room. The major difference, and truly unique thing about this stay, is Stoke Rochford Hall itself. It's magnificent, and set in some beautiful countryside. You'll never get that a premier inn. Thanks for the stay, i really enjoyed it.

What a lovely place to stay building was fantastic and lovely grounds to walk around .Staff very friendly and helpful , the room was outstanding large clean and tidy . Breakfast was also very good lots to choose from cereals to hot food . Would recommend that everyone spend a couple of days or more at this place as didn't want to come home after one of the best sleeps and time , will definitely want to come back again as well worth it .

"Diabolical"

11/07/2018

Me and my husband stayed here just a few days ago I brought a two night break for his birthday, and when I booked as I am a coeliac and lactose intolerant I wanted to make sure they could accommodate me which the assured me they could. On arrival the drive up is stunning, we were slightly early so could not get straight into our room, so we went for a walk round then a drink in the bar and a snack, food menu for the lunch was limited but did do gluten free bread we ordered our sandwiches but had to wait an age for them didn't think much of it had our lunch and checked in, there was a prom being held there that night which was nice to see all the girls dresses, we ordered our evening meal again food menu very limited and not very inviting, I did ask to make sure the chips were gluten free and they were so ordered steak for both me and my husband an hour later we are still waiting for our food and the young waitress did not tell us there was a delay on the food until the prom food was out so clearly they are unable to cope with a lot of people. Eventually when our meals turned up mine had onion rings on my steak to which I said I could not eat that as it's now cross contaminated the waitress tutted and said well did you say no onion rings well if it said it came with them I would of as I can't eat them and my husbands did not come with any!! Mine was taken away and my husband had to eat his once he had finished mine came out in a pasta bowl so steak chips mushroom and tomato in a pasta bowl seemed to me they did nothing but keep it warm and reserve me the same steak!!. There were 130 prom guests plus hotel guests and there were just two staff manning the bar also absolutely shocking, we also asked for port and the bartender had to ask what a port glass was!! Breakfast in the morning I asked if the hash browns were gluten free and was told no and did the scrambled egg ave milk in it the young waiting staff tutted and went to find out to which it had the staff made me feel like a freak because of my food problems they clearly have no conception of hoe this medical problem affects people and the clearly thought I was being fussy or on a faddy diet!! What I did have for breakfast which should have been hot was cold!! We complained to the reception staff she said she would talk to someone but no one came back to us. Whilst out for the day we found a great pub just down the road, when we got back I rang them and asked if they did gluten free food I actually spoke to the chef and owner who informed me that it was not a problem and could adapt anything I wanted everything was cooked to order he asked if we were staying at Stoke Rochford I said yes and he laughed I said oh you are aware of the situation here then and clearly he is as we went for dinner at the cross sword inn which was amazing he said he has many guest from there go there as the food choices and service is not great, whilst at the pub there were another couple that had previously stayed and they said the same thing the food and service were awful and they stay at the cross swords in now. The following morning breakfast was just a bad, we sorted our cases and checked out spoke to the lady on reception who was really nice explained we had complained the previous day but no one has spoken with us told her all about it which she agreed the menu is limited and she even admitted she doesn't eat there because the menu is not appetising. I explained that not once did anyone offer when I asked about the milk in the scrambled egg did any of the staff say I will as chef to cook you some without it in. I wish I had checked TA before hand the staff are to young have no hospitality or customer service experience and the chef clearly has no idea on what is a good appetising menu with good gluten free choices, I should not be made to feel a freak for a genuine medical issue!! So gutted for my husband and so angry for the treatment we received!! I will never go back.

"A tired hotel living on its facade"

2
11/07/2018

My wife and our two young children stayed for one night as part of a wedding party. The view as you drive down to the hotel is truly amazing. Sadly initial impressions were quickly scotched when we checked in. The 'Mansion Room' was eventually found after negotiating a cramped lift and a steep flight of stairs, rendering these rooms unsuitable for elderly, in-firmed or disabled. Dividing doors down the corridors were dirty and did not help the situation. The room itself was spacious but stained carpets, tired furniture, leaky taps and no curtains made me question the price and the room designation. The beds provided for my children consisted of a camp bed and a travel cot with no bedding. Thankfully we had brought our own mattress. I will refrain from commenting about the actual wedding itself except to say £60 for a children's meal that comprised garlic bread, sausage, beans and powdered mash, and three scoops of ice cream for a desert was exorbitant. In the morning we enquired about the opening time of the pool to be informed the Leisure Manager had not turned up to work! I considered whether to write this review in the aptly named Reflections restaurant. A basement room that was stiflingly hot, crowded and unable to cope with the number of guests made up my mind. Would I stay here again? I have found budget hotels cleaner and more acceptable so my answer would have to be a definite no.

"Afternoon tea delight"

4
10/07/2018

We used our Christmas present voucher for afternoon tea. Had originally planned to spend a little time going round the gardens before our booking. However, my disabled husband was using his scooter and unfortunately we found we were limited on access. So we asked at reception if we could bring our booking forward and the receptionist found out for us that we could, so it was more like a 'late lunch tea' . When the food came out it looked lovely, fresh and was very enjoyable. So even when not all goes to plan, we were not disappointed and thanks to the staff who were very pleasant and helpful too!

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review

"Avoid Woodland rooms"

1
10/07/2018

Similar to other reviews over several years (wish we'd checked TA first), we found our Woodland room (15) to be extremely poor: stains everywhere, chipped and peeled paint, 2 out of 3 light bulbs out, mould above the shower, and poor soundproofing. The shower temperature was highly inconsistent with a risk of scalding. No handsoap, so you have to wash your hands with shower gel. Not even 3*. The staff were friendly and professional, and the main hotel nice. The bed was reasonably comfortable. But at £80 room only (breakfast mediocre with revolting coffee), this is probably the worst value hotel room we've ever stayed in. Come on Best Western, live up to your name.

"Husband's 50th"

06/07/2018

Well what can I say, other than wow!!! I booked a 2 night all inclusive deal as a surprise for my husband. As we pulled up outside he was very surprised and impressed. I'd requested a suite when I booked and we were put into mansion room 7 which overlooked the beautiful gardens. It was a very spacious, comfy room and the bathroom was just as big with a roll top bath. The staff, during our stay were all lovely, always hard working and couldn't do enough for you. Rachel who checked us in was really nice and when I asked for a fan said she would have it taken up to our room, when we returned from our walk around the lovely gardens, the fan was waiting in our room. The food throughout our stay was lovely & plentiful The chef cooked all the meat to perfection on both nights. Upon checkout, I wasn't charged for a balloon that I'd requested with wine for my husband, the reception manager whose name eludes me ( another lovely lady) said it hasn't been added so wouldn't be charged. Myself and husband cannot wait too return to this lovely hotel. Thank you for making our birthdays special, and my husband's 50th one he will never forget.

"Most enjoyable break"

05/07/2018

Stayed here for four nights on an “Offer” break. The location and. building are outstanding, the former being well situated for visits to NT and HH properties within a short distance. The staff are most helpful and hard working. The food both at breakfast and dinner were very good in quality, quantity and presentation. The menus for the four nights were very similar with some repeats especially with the sweets. We upgraded to a suite - the Lincoln - which was at the front of the house in the main house over looking the car park but noise was no problem - it was large, airy and bright but a little dated.

"Appalling customer service"

1
03/07/2018

Appalled by the customer service at this hotel. We had looked forward to a two day stay starting Monday this week and were telephoned just THREE days prior to say that pool, sauna and all other facilities we had looked forward to would not be available as leisure club closed for a week. Their apology was disingenuous and no attempt to make up for our disappointment. We cancelled and will not attempt to visit again.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Peter T, thanks for your 'review'. We try to contact guests in order that they are advised of such important issues prior to arrival so that, like yourself, they can decide what they would like to do. Most guests still come to us, have a great time and re-book to visit again. Some, like yourself, decide not to come at that time. In our opinion, it is better to let our potential guests know what is going on so that they are not met with information at the time of check-in which may be even more disappointing.

"Faded Glory"

02/07/2018

Our wedding anniversary was made extra special by our daughters treating us to a "Gift in the Box" stay at this stately pile. The grounds & gardens were beautiful with flora and fauna all responding to the heat of an English day in sweltering June as we arrived late afternoon. Reception was near the main entrance & set the scene very well affording a view that spoke of decadence & luxury. The room we stayed in was below par however, it being in the roof space of the old stable courtyard with very little ventilation and a fan which stirred the hot air to gently roast the occupants. Although partially refurbished the strong smell of damp from behind the bath & sink units combined with the heat to create a musty atmosphere less than welcoming. As the hotel was busy no alternative was available, a wedding was taking place at the time. Dinner was hot, tasty and served in the hottest dining room I have ever visited, the meals could have been cooked in the room not the oven. No extra ventilation was added thus making the dining experience uncomfortable. On the second day the chef hadn't turned up so we had to wait for breakfast! If the heating/ventilation issues were sorted and the appointment of the room better it would have been a really nice visit but at times we felt like we were in the servants quarters and in the 18th century

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review

28/06/2018

We have just been on a 4 day buy a gift break. We were rather worried after we had booked it when we read some of the most recent reviews as they were not good.,However we were very surprised at what we found. We stayed in the stable courtyard which was very clean and comfortable. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We did not have evening meal as we like to eat out at different places but the breakfast was excellent. The grounds are stunning with plenty of seats to sit and relax. The mansion is beautiful too and plenty of parking spaces. We used the swimming pool twice which could do with some TLC which we understand is happening next week so will be even better. We really enjoyed our stay here and if we get the chance will visit again.

"One night stay!"

21/06/2018

We chose this hotel as available on a one night bed and breakfast gift offer. The hotel looked stunning so expectations were perhaps unrealistically high. The room was not in the main building but in the Courtyard. The room was basic but okay. We had arrived around 7.30pm and were not able to use the restaurant as had not 'pre-booked'. However the bar and a small selection of bar meals were available. We were not too impressed as the lettuce in the Caesar salad was not very fresh and wilted and the chicken burger was served on a slate plate for eating off your lap. Having stayed at a bed and breakfast guesthouse the two previous days the breakfast at this hotel was no where near the same quality, perhaps mainly as not freshly cooked except the eggs. also had the unexpected surprise of a tack digging in my finger when trying to move my chair. all round a very average hotel experience

"Bickmore break"

19/06/2018

I stayed at the Stoke Rockford manor with my husband, brother and his wife for a two day all inclusive break.we were pleasantly surprised it is a beautiful place with beautiful grounds although some of the decor is a bit worn out. Our rooms in the mansion where clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly, and courteous a very young team. The food was very good for an all inclusive deal and wine and beer which you had in the deal was exactly the same as you bought during the day before 7pm when it was free.Over all a very pleasant stay good value for money and I would recommend it.The only down side was it was a bit isolated so if you wanted to visit a village you would have to drive although the gardens are beautiful so if it's peace and quiet you want it is ideal.

"Stoke Rochford Hall"

Great location, and grounds, with a stream running through it.Wild life as you drive into the grounds, sheep, cows, birds ducks, geese with younge babies. Main building(Stoke Rochford Hall),very impressive. We were given a room in the stables courtyard. After struggling with the luggage upto the room,no lift, had difficulty getting into the room, due to the lumpy carpet stopping the auto close fire door from opening and closing. The room was on the small side, although adequate. No windows to look out of,only a couple of very high small skylights for light. Even with all eight lights on in the room,it was still a little on the dim side. But for the ceiling fan,it would've been unbearable to stay in the room due to poor ventilation. We had thought about asking to be moved to another room, but decided not to. We would definitely come back, but not if given the same or similar room.

Dear 538aftabh, thanks for your review. We are all very proud of the hotel and its grounds. I wish you had said something about your room at the time, we would have sorted something out for you. We're really pleased to hear that you will be returning soon.

We arrived at Stoke Rochford Hall with some trepidation....there were so many negative reviews we wondered if we'd made the right decision...However, we like to make up our own minds so took a chance - so glad we did! We were given a room at the Woodland Lodge - a building away from the mansion. Apparently this is where guests with Buyagift voucher stay...and the terrible reviews were mostly about the Lodge. However, we found our room very clean, lovely bathroom, a good size, comfortable, with everything we needed...Lorraine very kindly let us have wine glasses too! We had drinks at the bar where the staff were pleasant and sociable. Breakfast was a gastronomic delight - something for everyone - fresh fruit, cereals, full English, fruit juices...even nuts and yogurts, as well as unlimited tea and coffee. Nothing was too much trouble for the obliging staff. The mansion is beautiful and guests can use all facilities there even if they're staying in the outbuildings! Many areas are a little tired and in need of a lick of paint; no real ale at the bar...but apart from that, we loved it there and hope to return. We'd certainly recommend a mini break for anyone who would enjoy time in a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by great staff! Thank you for our most enjoyable stay.

We booked a cheap deal with Wowcher so have no complaint regarding value for money but this property, whilst very grand, is crumbling. The staff were all great and very helpful and friendly but the accommodation is in desperate need of investment. It requires a deep clean and redecoration everywhere. The in house restaurant had very limited choice but quality of food was good. The buffet breakfast was served in a basement with no windows and what you would expect in motorway service station. We would not return, even at bargain price.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear David B, thanks for your review. We're pleased you found the staff friendly and helpful and your stay good value for money. The SRH restaurant has been the restaurant in which breakfast has been served for the past thirteen years. We have recently brought evening dining up to the Turnor/Rochford rooms and we're really pleased that you found the quality of food good.

When I read previous reviews I was a bit disappointed. However the Hall has certainly turned things around. Our room was modern & spacious. We took our large dog Berty & he was given 2 dog bowls & his own towel. The grounds & gardens were well kept. The breakfast was delicious the staff extremely helpful. Well worth the visit. Rutland Water 15 mins away - has own dog walking area . Small cafe. Beautiful reservoir which u can swim in. Lots of birds for twitchers .

We stayed in a mansion room a few weeks ago and loved it. The room was spacious, clean and the beds were so comfy. The building and grounds are beautiful and scenic and the interior of the building is grand and welcoming. The bar and lounge area are very calming and the breakfast has a great selection of hot and cold foods. Would definitely recommend staying here.

My wife and I (senior citizens) stayed here through Alfa Travel, unfortunately our expectations were dashed. We stayed in the stables area, while the room was comfy enough, fillings that needed attention (ie light bulb) wasn't a top priority and had to be reported again, as was the request for an extra bed sheet (that never arrived at all). The food was what you would expect from perhaps 2 star hotel, cheap cuts of meat nog cooked long enough to become tender, fried eggs that could be used in the discus event at the olympics and the cleanliness of the dining area disgusting. Had to sort through the plates and glasses to find a clean one and the cutlery full of grease!! On a positive note, the actual staff were brilliant, very helpful especially Bianca in reception who helped me with the mobility scooter.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Stephen, thanks for your review. We're really pleased that you found the staff brilliant, especially Bianca. We have nothing but good reviews for our food so were surprised to read your comments; rest assured this will be looked into promptly. we all hope we will be welcoming you back soon.

"Excellent Friendly Welcome"

13/06/2018

We stated 2 nights and although we had plans to visit places, discovered it was a wonderful place to stay and relax in itself. The main reason for this review is to share the excellent service we received. This wasn't just the practical treatment and facilities, it was the friendly "can do" attitude from the staff. I emailed with an enquiry of personal interest and immeadiatly got a personal reply with advice and help before we got there, as well as a very friendly receptionist on arrival on the day, who went out of her way to FIND OUT what we wanted amd deliver. I am praising that treatment you get when you know people have "gone beyond their job description." There was a charming and honest personal service we received that was warm and friendly. A real gem. And hats off to the breakfast staff too! If it's your thing, I'd recommend a read up on the history of the place too - it was quite humbling to walk the grounds after finding out some of the things and stories that have happened. Well done to all the staff and best wishes.

Overall could easy be 4 star with some attention to detail ,some nice prices of furniture but miss matched ,we appreciate old buildings are hard to keep but small changes would make a difference. "Beautiful grounds... but I would not recommend this hotel!"

06/06/2018

A beautiful venue, stunning views but terrible management of this hotel! I stayed at this venue last week...the staff were very friendly professional but absolutely ran off their feet...no manager ever on site. They had a film crew on site which we had no notification of before and then despite one of our friends being on crutches we couldn't use the car park and had to park far away. Then we weren't allowed in to the hall due to the filming for a full day....no management on site until the next day. When I raised this with a manager on reception the next day no apology. We experienced very bad nights sleep due to doors banging very loudly all the time (we were in the stables area). Breakfast can only be described as the worst hotel breakfast I've experienced, not due to the quality of the food but it simply wasn't there...it ran out of everything...all the time...all the guest were complaining. Our room was nice, it looked like it has recently been decorated. I wouldn't reccomend staying here...worth a walk around the grounds for the day though.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Catherine, thanks for your review, I'm pleased you found Stoke Rochford Hall to be a stunning venue and your recently decorated room, nice. The filming was a one off on the bank holiday Monday, and we admit, it was far more intrusive than we were led to believe it would be. I do hope you will return soon.

06/06/2018

As we drove up to the main car park the hall looked absolutely awesome. The grounds were superb. We checked in at 2 and were told we were staying in the stable block which had been converted to rooms. We were not given any information about breakfast times, a wedding would be taking place tomorrow, or anything about the place at all, we had to find our own way about or ask. We were just given our keys and basically find your own way they just pointed us in the direction we had to go. As they were not double glazed windows, it was quite noisy outside especially when there was a wedding taking place and people were outside after midnight. The leisure facilities looked tired and could do with a make over which was disappointing. The steam room/sauna were in the changing rooms which meant my husband and myself had to go on our own. This is the first time where these facilities were not mixed, so we never used them. We didn't want to sit with strangers but they were grim anyway. Breakfast was good lots of choice. Unless changes are made I don't think we will be going back very soon.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear ChipSOO, thanks for your review. We're pleased you found the hall awesome, the grounds superb and the breakfast good. We are continuing to invest substantially in the hotel and we will be re-launching the leisure centre in July. I do hope you will return in future to see these changes.

Our eldest daughter got us an afternoon tea here for a christmas present. We visited on the 1st of June on the way back from a holiday in York and it was lovely. couldnt really fault it and will definitely be back. BTW..... IKEA teapot........... surely you could do better than this!!!!! "Disappointing room"

31/05/2018

We had been given this 2 night break as a gift for a special occasion & had been impressed by all the wonderful photo's on various web sites. We were given room 30 in the stable courtyard & to be honest we have never stayed in such a tiny room anywhere in the country, not even a caravan. As it was a gift voucher we certainly weren't expecting to be given a suite but at least a room with a window, not just a velux window in the roof making the room stuffy & claustrophobic. It was so narrow there was not room for two bedside lights or a second chair, although housekeeping did offer to bring one. Apparently there were no other rooms available. Also, in this day of safeguarding, l find it completely inappropriate to have a picture of a naked child on the wall; it wasn't even inkeeping with the decor. While we were there on the Monday, the hotel was used all day for filming. No doubt this provided more than a considerable income which would hopefully help with the ongoing improvements but paying guests, (even if it was by voucher, someone paid for it), were treated as second class & unable to use many parts of the hotel. The person who bought the voucher has now revealed how much it cost & was most upset at the standard of accommodation we were given. On a positive note, the staff were very polite & friendly, although somewhat confused at times. Both breakfasts & dinner on the Sunday evening could not be faulted. The grounds were immaculate. We would more than happy to stay here again providing it was not in the stable block!

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear _aqnz95, thanks for your review. we're really pleased that you found the staff polite and friendly, the breakfast and dinner faultless and the grounds immaculate. "So disappointed!"

30/05/2018

My wife and I stayed at the hotel at the end of May 2018 for 2 nights. On arrival, our first impression was ‘wow'! The main hotel is a fantastic building with a rich and interesting history and immaculate grounds. Check in was prompt, and we were told our room was in the courtyard, an annex to the main building. These rooms actually looked like converted stables. Our room was small, gloomy and in need of much basic maintenance. Most obviously, the walls were watermarked and needed painted (see photos). In addition, our shower tray would not drain away therefore it was impossible to use a high flow with the shower! I brought this to the attention to the member of staff at the reception desk who said this would be rectified; however, it was not due to the maintenance staff apparently not turning up to work that day. So we had to persevere with the shower for the remainder of our trip. We were looking for a bite to eat and we were told the restaurant was fully booked but we could get food at the bar. The bar was not overly busy, perhaps three people waiting. Despite this, I waited 20-25 minutes to get served, primarily due to issues with the credit card machine failing, then guests having to activate room accounts. When I was eventually served I was told the kitchen had closed (2103)! The barmaid said that she would try to speak to the staff to put an order through for us, but to the best of my knowledge this didn't happen. After ordering our drinks, the credit card machine was still not working, we didn't want to open a room tab, so I (tried to) pay with a Clydesdale Bank £20 note. This delayed us further as the barmaid had to check with reception to ask whether she could accept our currency. The bar did not stock crisps or peanuts, so come prepared if you arrive late! In addition, several drinks on the drinks menu were not available a when I asked (including Amstel and Havana club rum). Our room was booked with a buyagift.com voucher and included an evening meal on the 2nd night. The food was generally of a good standard although pretty basic. The biggest complaint was that the beef was very chewy, but my wife enjoyed her meal of mackerel followed by cod. As mentioned above, the grounds were very well presented, and were lovely to walk around in the evening. At check out, we were asked if we enjoyed our stay, and I mentioned the major let down of the room and showed the receptionist our photos of the room. She said that she could understand our disappointment but as we had booked via buyagift.com she could not compensate us, instead we have to contact them directly! She said that using the voucher should in no way mean we have substandard service; however, I feel this is exactly what happened! Why is/are this/these room(s) even used when they are not fit for purpose? I do not normally write negative reviews as I like to try to sort any issues out directly with the hotel/restaurant etc.; however, I feel in this case it is truly justified as I tried to iron out the issues without any success. If you are staying, I would advise you to call the hotel directly and ensure that you are not staying in the Courtyard rooms.

"Looks are deceiving "

30/05/2018

The spa is a swimming pool in a dirty greenhouse located within the hotel grounds. The food is expensive and poor quality. The dining room is unkempt and plain. You get a white tablecloth, cutlery and side plate , but nothing to put on it. Not even the offer of a piece of bread. Asked for salt and pepper and it took a waitress 5 minutes to find some. Food is out of a packet, but they charge restaurant prices. We didn't stay for breakfast!

"Nice photo, shame about the place!"

30/05/2018

Spent two nights in hotel, decided to have a meal for first night. Not many guests eating, but it took an hour to have our food. We asked for iced water to drink, it was warm tap water, there were laid out side plates, no offering of bread rolls. When food eventually arrived it was in a huge bowl, but food just filled the middle. The meagre portion of vegetables were over salted, the potato mash lumpy, the vegetarian tart seemed shop bought. It was expensive too! Asking for pepper was a task in itself! Needless to say we did not eat there again, nor did we bother with breakfast. The room was basic but clean, the pool was in a large, dirty greenhouse that was not finished, the gym was decent though. The computers were down through our stay and had difficulty in paying when leaving. It is such a beautiful building that did not live up to expectations.

"Not as good as pictures make out"

30/05/2018

Coffee and tea stains on walls in restaurant which have been there a while, marks on walls in bedroom, swimming pool cold and dangerous as steps coming away from bolts in floor, safety railing around pool all broke, only 2 choices of beer available on draft,tv in room the size of a pc screen which is no good.the outside of building looks nice and the grounds look nice, but for what they charge it needs a nice cleanup inside ,as at the moment it's not worth what they charge

"A wonderful break"

25/05/2018

The hotel is stunning, the grounds are beautiful. The room we stayed in was in the loft so it didn't have a view unless you could see out of the high windows, but it was large as was the bathroom and we felt very comfortable there. The bar, the restaurant, the lounge and the library were everything I would have expected from a country house hotel. The staff were particularly helpful and accommodating. The hotel is perfectly located for visiting many interesting places in the area and just the job for relaxing after a busy day out. We especially loved our early morning swims, even though the pool is dated and waiting for a face lift.

"Lovely Manor House poor rooms"

When booking this hotel you see the lovely pictures of the Manor House but you get put in extremely poor accommodation in the stables. Poor shabby rooms with dated facilities. Food was good though nice evening meal and very good breakfast.

"The good the bad (and the ugly)"

23/05/2018

So the good... beautiful house and immaculate grounds friendly staff tho undertrained and understaffed and not supervised, nice room in the main house (once we'd been moved from the original room given) good breakfast offering by 2 female staff who were efficient and seemed to care.... The bad (and ugly)...on arrival went to our stable courtyard room, it was dirty, broken blind on the dirty window, rust all on/in the bath, broken shower head (So couldn't shower) broken toilet roll holder, everywhere dusty, marked walls, broken furniture, stained headboard the list is endless. Requested a move waited for somebody to show us 2 more rooms had to ring reception again 25 minutes later as still no one had been to show us, when she did arrive admitted the other rooms would be no better, eventually given a room in the main house tho not for those that struggle on their feet no lift working and many stairs!lovely room but still dusty and no milk for the drink selection so back downstairs to get some as hard work to get an answer on the reception phone. As said the staff are friendly but inexperienced..long wait for drinks/coffees at the bar no one seemed to know what to do or how to do it (it certainly wasnt busy) the odd swear word between staff when chatting etc just generally not up to standard!! I haven't written this review to receive a sarcastic reply from the management (not that we saw any while there) or to be told we'll be missing out if we don't return when they've made improvements etc we generally loved the house and if it was clean and efficiently run we could see past the shabbiness and general maintenance work that needs doing.. But dirty rooms, unhoovered carpets lack of staff, attention to detail and poor slow service will put so many people off and it's such a shame. We've never been to a hotel where there is no information folder telling you what the restaurant menu is the facilities on offer or even what time and where breakfast is! Please please up your game and get this hotel back to where it was many years ago.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Amanda, thanks for your review. We do intend to get Stoke Rochford back to, and better than, its former glory and are working in all departments to make this happen..

We booked stoke rochford for our wedding in 2016 and it was the best decision we have ever made! Not only is the landscape around the building stunning the hall itself is amazing. There have been a few changes to staffing but this was always communicated to us. Daniel the new wedding coordinator has been fantastic and even replied to our emails on his days off and did everything to make sure our day was perfect. I stayed the night before and the staff made sure I had everything I needed and did the up most to make me and my bridesmaids welcome. The day itself was amazing and the staff on the day were so professional and their service was excellent. Emma looked after us all day and she was fantastic and made sure the day ran smoothly so we could sit back and enjoy our day. We stayed in the Lincoln room which was gorgeous room. All the other guests said they were pleased with their rooms and all commented on how clean the rooms were. If I could do the day again I would and I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you to the whole team at stoke rochford for making our day so magical.

"Amazing grounds, hotel needs work"

23/05/2018

Stayed here for the weekend as a group of 30 as we were running Tough mudder. As you approach the hotel - wow what an entrance! The drive in is so pretty and as you approach the hotel it's breathtaking. The grounds are lovely. However, the inside feels it needs some money spent on it. Our room (we had a suite) was spotlessly clean with great views - the lift was broken though and it was so many stairs! Other members of the party were in the “stable” rooms, an outbuilding of the hotel. They all said their rooms were clean but again felt they needed some love, as in redecorating. Also, there was a wide range of different sized rooms so don't expect it to be too big. One of the party, was put in a completely separate block, that got nicknamed the council flats lol! But she said her room was nice. We all visited the health suite on the Saturday afternoon. Didn't rate the sauna/steam rooms and the jacuzzi was broken. The pool was ok, it's tired, and like the hotel needs some love. The staff were outstanding although didn't seem enough of them. They recommended a pizza place for us as they had stopped serving food. And even bought it down to where we were all congregating. We are all definitely staying there again next year and are looking forward for it - mainly due to the staff!

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, BW Premier Collection, responded to this review
Dear Jess K, thanks for your review. I'm pleased that the staff looked after you all so well. We are improving all areas of the hotel all the time and will continue to do so.

"Very disappointed"

18/05/2018

Very friendly staff but very disappointed with my stay. Stayed for two nights. I checked in late on a Friday night and got to my room around 10:30pm. At around midnight, a shower of water started coming through the ceiling which would not stop. (Like having a shower in your bed!) I took this up with the lady at reception and she kindly changed the room for me. The next room was a great deal smaller / cramped with dead bugs in the shower. The hotel was quite full so this is the best I could get. For the inconvenience, I got a free drink voucher, allowing one free drink at the bar! While this was a nice gesture, it's far from good enough. The following evening I had dinner in the restaurant. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. I had to ask for my glass and knife to be changed as they were dirty to the point of not being cleaned in the first place. Surprisingly, the food was very very good. After leaving the restaurant, I went to the bar to redeem my free drink and ordered a brandy. One measure was presented to me in a tall lemonade glass. At this point I had given up and just drank it and left. I asked reception if they are open early in the morning as I had to check out at 6:30am. I was told "yes, no problem, we are always here". The next morning, I was waiting at reception from 6:30am - 6:50am and no one was there. I had to throw my keys over on to the reception desk and leave. Since then, I have been charged for the dinner (which is fine) but no contact and no final bill for my records. I even tried to call (4 times) once I had left only to get a mobile answerphone each time. Really bad experience of which I didn't expect to have to pay full price. Will never stay at a BW establishment again.

"Wow impressive building"

17/05/2018

We stay with our friends and was very impressed with the front of the building, when we went in we wasn't disappointed it is a beautiful place , we were staying in the Hall and not in the stables , our room was very large and the bed was enormous, the bathroom was of a good size and all very clean . Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked and hot so no problem there, but the evening meal I had beef first night then chicken the second night was beautiful and tasty but there just wasn't enough potato and vegetables. The staff gave a good and friendly service . There was a problem with the lift not working and it was a struggle to walk all those flights of stairs but we had a laugh about and it didn't spoil our break ?? We will definitely come back to this beautiful building

"Quality"

17/05/2018

I was sceptical about staying here having read the TA reviews. All I can say is, they must have turned things around. I had not real concerns - just a couple of observations. The building is fantastic. I couldnt help taking photos - it is well restored and spacious. My room was in the converted stables. Plenty of space, well set up, and a good quiet nights sleep. Observations - I ordered room service. Good quality and arrived in good time - but there was not a space to put the tray down or to sit at. I had to balance a plat on my lap sitting on the bed! Also - the wifi was down during the time I was there - but I'm sure this is an easy enough fix. Breakfast was a typical buffet - but nicely done. They cooked eggs to order. I would definitely stay here again. It was priced just right.

"Second stay at this spectacular building"

5
16/05/2018

This is an impressive looking building with spectacular gardens but.........there needs to be some attention in certain areas. In the bar we sat to have a quick lunchtime snack, menu very poor, decided to have soup and were waiting over half an hour, I had to ask a waitress if it would be much longer? She came back to say it wouldn't be too long. When it did eventually arrive it was half a bowl and 45 mins from when we first ordered it. We had no apology for the wait, and it wasn't as though it was busy there was only one other couple in there. The glass coffee table top had massive chips out of it on the corners, so incredibly dangerous! Can't understand why this has been overlooked?.. our room was nice though, massive bathroom with seperate shower and bath. Afternoon tea wasn't great, Victoria sponge was very dry, had better. Must say the receptionist was so lovely and friendly (all I know is she used to work for Edinburgh wool) this is the second stay we have had here, I just love the house gardens and location, we will return x

11/05/2018

Stunning property that will WOW you as you drive up, thats where it ends i am afraid. Its not bad but the service and decor doesn't continue the wow factor. As we arrived in the grand reception area the place was strewn with dirty cups, plates and glasses, not the best of welcomes. We stayed as overnight having played golf at the nearby Stoke Rochford Golf Club, a must for all golfers. Our room was in the stable courtyard, a little on the small side for a double room but clean and adequate for our needs with a comfortable bed. We explored the interior of this fine property and every room on the ground floor is awesome, however as you make your way downstairs towards the Terrace Bar it becomes a mis mash of decor totally out of character with the rest of the building. The hotel was apparently full on the evening of our stay and this showed in the the restaurant and bar, only one bar person serving and too be honest he didn't stand a chance, had to queue for 30 mins to get a drink. Again in the restaurant whilst the menu was limited the food was OK, nothing to write home about but OK. However whilst the waiters and waitresses did there best there was a clear lack of leadership and direction and they were just running around doing there best, not there fault just needed a leader. Would i stay here again, yes i would, but one thing guys, you have 28 acres of beautiful grounds that must be explored by everyone, why oh why do you only have 5 tables for people to sit and enjoy the outside, it was a hot evening and to be able to sit outside would have been great.

"disappointed"

Had a 2 night get away and decided to upgrade to stay in the actual hall what a disappointment! The room was called a suite! It was an extra £60 per night. The main hall is beautiful and the downstairs area was very nice. The bar and restaurant was something else. 40 minute wait in a long queue to get a drink. Lack of staff. all young with what appeared to be no leadership or organisation. The restaurant was like a canteen. Lighting could have been lowered but the food was really good

"Don't bother! "

My partner and our friends stayed this bank holiday weekend. Upon check in staff were really unhelpful and didn't appear to care about us or our stay. The main building is lovely our room itself was in the stables. This part did not meet our expectations at all. It is desperate for decorating and modernisation, most walls had damp and the windows were filthy. Our room was ok but basic but our friends room was awful with a toiletvflush that didn't work, damp and no shower curtain. The food was ok but the worst part about the stay has to be the staff. All the staff we encountered were incredibly rude. They were badly understaffed and after fifteen minutes of queuing at the bar without seeing a member of staff we spoke to reception about this to be given the response of 'ok' the staff and their attitude ruined our stay and I will not be visiting here again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

"Such a let-down"

Fantastic architecture and setting. No doubt about that. But for me that was as far as the good bits went. I guess the warning signs were in the exceptionally pot-holed driveway on approach to the Hall. I then passed some out of place prefab 2storey buildings later to discover one was the leisure centre which is some 250m away from the Hall You then round the bend to the magnificent sight of the Hall. And then, I was given my room - in yet another separate building, the stable block. Please avoid the moldy-walled cramped stable block. I was given room 10 at the end of a corridor for £65room only. Clue in the title really but I certainly wouldn't put a horse in this room let alone 2 people. Bathroom was a complete joke with a wriggle around the sink to get to sit down on the pan. As a light sleeper I was kept awake by the constant 10sec muffled fog horn of some plant housed nearby or the stomp of footsteps up the creek staircase. My view was of the ‘woodland lodge' another prefab, with plants growing out of the gutters. At least, I thought to myself I'm not staying in that. But couldn't help wondering if a lost sole in there was thinking the same when they looked out. I didn't eat here and didn't drink in the bar, so can't comment. Frankly, as a business stop over where my intent was to get to the gym and get a good nights sleep, it fell a long way short. Do yourself a favour book a one star chain hotel and at least you know what to expect.

"Stunning location although did not stay"

Where to begin the drive up to the hotel is absolutely stunning although this was where it stayed.. check in was smoothly and we was directed to our room in the stables unfortunately it rapidly went down hill the room was so small and uncomfortable, the bathroom was so small to get in the shower or go to the toilet you had squeeze around the sink, the bed was stained and the walls were dirty with mound on the walls in the corridors. We tried to book a table in the restaurant to be told we would have to wait up to 3 hours just to be seated . The reception staff was very helpful and recommend somewhere else to eat .. we got back to the hotel and had a drink in the bar which is a stunning room although several light bulbs need replacing, making the room seem dark. The bar staff was rude half way through serving us went to have a conversation with another staff member who was drinking behind the bar. We decided to retire to our room where the tv didn't work husband went to report to reception to be told someone would look at it in the morning after we had checked out., we decided not to stay. I am left extremely disappointed as this was a rare one night break away from our daughter and this spoilt our weekend. we did receive a refund but only when I told someone who I think was a night porter, as non of the staff had a set uniform and no one had a name badge on, that I was a best western employee then they honoured the refund.

"Hit & miss"

Impressive location & building, but a bit hit & miss on food, the decor, service & facilities. Room was good even had a small kitchen, bath had a hole in the side & bottom of bath grubby. Bar service ok, beer selection poor. Restaurant was a disappointment, food was ok but the service let it down. Had to ask for napkins, asked for our wine 3 times & when it arrived halfway through our starter it was served warm with no ice bucket or cooler. The bill was then all wrong. Gym looks ok but the jacuzzi is out of action. With such an lovely building & features it looks like someone was let loose with a TK Max or The Range catalogue. This place could be a real gem with a few tweaks here & there.

We have just had a two night stay all inclusive gift from our daughters as a golden wedding gift, we were upgraded to the Lincoln Room as a complimentary gift which was a lovely gesture we thought. From going in to coming home we have enjoyed every minute, the staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing to much trouble, the food was excellent, lots of choice at breakfast buffet, the waiters at night and behind the bar were all young and so pleasant, always smiling... if I had to comment on anything I think they should all have name badges, as I would like to say the young girl in the restaurant at night was so happy and pleasant, the lady in charge at night so helpful, and the blonde lady on reception as we checked in, but no names ! Our room was fabulous overlooking the estate, bathroom spotless, very comfy bed as well. The radiators weren't working I don't think in our room but they had put an electric heater in which was fine.... the building itself is stunning, so glad we went....

Dear Berny 48, thanks for your lovely review; and Congratulations on your Anniversary! Were all so pleased you had a great stay. As it happens, we're in the process of ordering name badges for everyone, but I shall thank all the staff you mentioned personally! best regards John

I stayed at Stoke Rochford Hall for business and was impressed by the Grade 1 Listed Building which was located in great surroundings. The food was very nice and the customer service from Lorraine was brilliant. I would recommend visiting Stoke Rochford Hall

"Not really worth the trip"

My sister and I went for a 2 night stay from a buy a gift voucher. We were meant to have a twin room. They confirmed double so we told them our booking was for a twin. Seemed happy to sort it, got to the room to find it was a double. Didn't get to stay in the main house we were instead in the converted stables which are seemingly more commonly used as self catering rooms. A bit out of date, leaking bath so even if you wanted to relax you can't and space in room not really used as well as you'd expect. Breakfast was disappointing too. Grounds are quite nice but wouldn't bother returning.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, responded to this review
Dear Samarjhay!, thanks for your review. It really is a shame that you wont be bothering to return...we are investing a lot in the hotel at the moment including redecoration and new furnishings for many of our guest rooms; perhaps you should reconsider?

"Afternoon tea voucher from buyagift"

25/04/2018

Beautiful grounds ... And fabulous impressive hall.... Afternoon tea was a gift for 2 from Buyagift We Received a warm welcome, very polite and helpful staff However here are some Tips we feel would improve the actual eating experience Firstly the music was really LOUD, started off with Adele, then went to dreary depressing CELLO classical music... Why not use vintage China crockery, and use a proper cake stand, I didn't like sweet and savoury next to each other on a piece of slate Why not "Home make" the cakes and scones......these were shop bought cakes and bread, French stick loaf thin sliced with bit of crispy bacon on not really dainty!! Or tiny roll with houmous and sliver red pepper.....was expecting the traditional cucumber sandwich, not pre sliced cheap cheese and pickle.... Why serve the cream and jam in sherry glasses??? Overall the food was disappointing, and not much of it.....would have been nice to be offered choice of what was served. We did get the teapot refilled, although I don't think any extra tea leaves were added! I cannot fault the staff, and that is why we didn't complain. I suppose with these voucher schemes, the venue don't actually get much...I would have only paid £8 max for each person ...think the voucher was £35 for 2

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, responded to this review
Dear DeeDee, thanks for your review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit. I just wanted to let you know that we're in the process of enhancing our afternoon teas, which, for the warmer weather will be available in our amazing Orangery or even outside on the terrace.

"Withered hotel"

24/04/2018

On arrival the stunning drive down to the hotel is lovely Once you get into reception it is dark big and withered Unfortunately the hotel is in transmission with BW The lift was out of order 2 days.housekeeping needs to keep this place clean, it's quite dirty in areas food n coffee stains on walls We ate in the resteraunt which was overpriced and 3 choices on starters/ mains/puddings, the inexperienced waiters are not tentative at all for your needs waiting till mains for wine isn't really acceptable The snooker table had been vandalised which is a shame The gardens are a lovely walk But advertised as having a pool and sauna in the hotel is in fact on another part of the estate The reception bar was closed when we had finished our meal which is bonkers why ? All in all would I stay again ? If BW get a grip on customer needs / get a grip on the cleaning and bring the pool n spa in hotel . They are onto a winner for spa days with golf course next to hotel ! If afternoon tea wasn't so expensive maybe we would have tried it. Having no website is brutal for any business, this needs to be up and running asap My advice take a hit close the doors for mass refurb and open in a few weeks fresh and ready to go at the prices your charging people would then be happy to pay Having a 19inch television in a suite really isn't the way forward Get rid get 32inch smart tv's in your rooms M

Dear Micklemoose P, thanks for your review. We have just linked up with Stoke Rochford Golf Club to bring fabulous new facilities to the hotel which will all be featured on the great new website which will go live on 1st of May. Talash Hotels are continuing to invest heavily throughout the business and the five minute walk through our lovely grounds to the leisure pool has been enjoyed by the majority of our guests for several years... thank you for your comments.

"Lovely potentially fab but not quite there"

Work trip away in this so clearly a building not built to be a hotel! Much of it is superb but so many little things undermine the overall feel. My room was fabulously spacious, but shower would turn off despite many attempts before checking out! Food was ok bar a mushroom soup at lunch that a colleague described accurately as having the flavour of a cuppa soup portion for one dilute for 40! Bowls 90-95% full being returned! I can totally understand it's attraction as a wedding venue and it was lovely whilst there to see such visiting planning their big day and cuddling in love and excitement! Pool was disappointing too and a 5 minute walk from the hotel. On an exceptionally warm April day it was ideal but I suspect it'd be cold most of the year.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, responded to this review
Dear McCana, thanks for your review. Stoke Rochford Hall is a magnificent venue and were improving it all the time! Its great that you were here on a warm April day but you really need to see it in the winter with the huge roaring log fires and the candlelit hall. Its amazing!

We popped to Stoke Rochford Hall with friends after our daughters swimming lesson. We were met by Daniel who gave us the highest level of personal service. We loved the hotel and the service was second to none. We will be back again soon to try more from the menu!

"Beautiful building, and new management starting to get things sorted"

16/04/2018

Beautiful setting, and most things about the place were fine. Excellent walks, room was fine and had a great breakfast. Some of the interior decor is stunning. Has just moved to full control of new management (previously owned / joint operated with NUT) and significant improvements planned. The wonderful reception manager Lorraine is an absolute star and a massive asset - hope she stays with the new organisation. Will definitely go back and see how it has progressed in a year's time. Prices are low at moment, but this could very easily be a genuine 4 star hotel with not much additional work required.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, responded to this review
Dear Rob and Davina, thanks for your lovely review. We are indeed making some great improvements and investing in the hotel which I'm sure you will be seeing when you return. best regards

"An enjoyable stay"

16/04/2018

We enjoyed a relaxing two night weekend stay at Stoke Rochford Hall. Check out all inclusive deals for this hotel. They're good value. The food and drink provided was excellent throughout our stay. All the staff in the hotel and leisure centre were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner service was particularly good. Lunch service in the bar though was slow and a bit chaotic on both days. Staff seemed to be covering functions in two other rooms at the same time, which led to delays. Accommodation in the old stable block was comfortable and quiet. The hall, grounds and gardens are all stunning and really add to the pleasure of the stay.

Stoke Rochford H, General Manager at Stoke Rochford Hall, responded to this review
Dear 77Liz, thanks for your lovely review, Great that you enjoyed your stay and the food and service. hope to see you again soon.

"Afternoon teas - nowhere as good as before, disappointing"

14/04/2018

Before Stoke Rochford was taken over by Best Western, the afternoon tea at Stoke Rochford was a delight, each course brought out individually including fresh scones, warm from the oven, both quality and quantity were excellent. It seems the corporate behemoth has done a pretty good job of dumbing down the afternoon tea and making it mediocre at best. Everything is brought out at once on a big slate. Clearly the sandwiches had been sat around and were dry, 4 miniscule triangles of salmon, beef and horeradish, ham and mustard and cheese and pickle, hardly inspiring. If you'e a vegetarian, you get two each of the cheese and pickle and cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, they are clearly not trying are they? For 'cakes' you get a brownie, a small lemon drizzle 'chunk', a macaron, small carrot cake and a tiny jar of lemon posset. The brownie was nice, the lemon drizzle cake quite dry and tasteless, the carrot cake was quite dry too with too much frosting, I've made better myself. The macaron was ok and the lemon posset quite nice. You get one scone each, they were quite nice but fairly small. We have had better afternoon teas at garden centres for half the price. So disappointing compared to our previous experience here. It simply is not worth it, there will be much, much better afternoon teas out there. The setting is really nice but really don't bother.
