Follow the peg and groove hardwood floors to the Pere Marquette Lodge Restaurant which is popular with fried chicken enthusiasts and anyone looking for classic American fare. The on-site Winery offers guests award-winning local wines while the indoor atrium pool features floor to ceiling windows and a stunning view of the river valley below. 72 well-appointed rooms and cabins include modern amenities with a decidedly rustic-air. « Good overall experience »

All of the staff were friendly and good to work with. The location is beautiful and the lodge is a great place to hang out with a lot of activities to do. Overall the whole state park can keep you busy in itself. It is close to a little town (Grafton, IL) where there is restaurants, zip lining, wineries/ brewery, ice cream shops, nick nack shops, etc. The only complaint is the cabin room we had was dirty and dusty. They seem to have done very little maintenance & upkeep to it.

« Great Lodge and Setting »

We stayed in a cabin and the room was definitely beyond dated, but the lodge was well maintained and had many very good dinner choices along with some local blueberry wine...all tucked in on beautiful land.

« A great place gone to terrible »

We've stayed here many times and loved it, though it has always been plain and rustic. It used to be clean and comfortable. What a shock to find it unmaintained and poorly cleaned. Every glass door and window is filthy. Showers and plumbing fixtures were broken. No hot water. Upon opening it, toilet seat cover fell to the floor. We simply got tired of calling th desk, so my husband fixed it. Furniture is dusty. Room was only vacuumed in the center. Bath tub handles slimy, unclean. They have one housekeeper on duty. Breakfast is absolutely terrible. Dinner a bit better but very institutional quality. Some staff are very nice, some surly. The are is so beautiful and we have stayed here when the entire grounds were flooded...experience was still really good. This time? Feh. I doubt we'll return. So sad.

    « Dated »

Very worn and dated. Restaurant has vinyl tablecloths and day old potato's. We left the cabin due to the musty smell and checked into the lodge. Same look from 23 years ago when we came for a night on our honeymoon

« Excellent Place to Stay »

My wife and I wanted to go somewhere for my Spring Break and decided to take a trip to the Pere Marquette State Park. Since we were going to be there several days we decided to stay at the Lodge on the State Park. We were glad that we did. We had a very enjoyable time at the lodge. The food was delicious and very reasonable at the restaurant. The lodge is very beautiful inside, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the pool was very nice, and our room was very nice too. I would go back there again to stay since we had such a great time there. My only complaint was there was not much to do at the State Park.

« Good until the last night »

The lodge is a beautiful old CCC-era building though guest rooms are comfortable and modern. We are in the old section. We stayed for three nights - beginning Tuesday evening. The main lobby is the highlight of the lodge! Beautiful with vaulted ceilings, a soaring fireplace that remains lit, windows spanning a great view of the sunset and river. TU and WE evening were spent lounging in this great room, making the stay fantastic... until tonight. I am currently sitting in the lobby and am surrounded - quite literally - by 40 standing and marching people who are being orchestrated by a VERY loud wedding planner. The entrance to the restaurant is blocked, the fireplace is blocked... This is LOUD, disruptive and completely ruins the experience of the lodge stay. **IF** one is going to do a wedding rehearsal - rent the entire bloody common area and don't impose it on every other guest. And it was going so well...

    « Winter getaway »

Went in response to ad for an Eagle watch package offer. Spent one night and included dinner and breakfast for 2 in their restaurant plus 2 drinks. Great value. The food in the restaurant was great! This was a week day only special so we were there on a Monday night. Very quiet, not a lot of people. We had a king room and it was huge and extremely clean and comfy . The lodge is beautiful with a huge common area with fireplace . The weather was crappy ( rained the whole time) so we did not get to enjoy the outdoors. Intend to go back. Staff very friendly and accommodating . Overall a wonderful stay. The did have an indoor pool but we are not swimmers so did not take advantage of that.

    « Beautiful and unique »

The hotel is set in a beautiful state parks with trails to hike and a beautiful view of the river. Quaint little towns and a scenic drive. Perfect for a little getaway. Great for families or even a romantic couples stay. The lobby has oversized board games such as chess and connect four, there's a pool for family fun. The restaurant has amazing food options, friendly staff, and the decor fit in with the ambiance of the area

    « Comfortable cottage »

We stayed in one of the cottages and loved our stay. It has been too long since we have been here, and were glad to come back. The cabin was cozy and large, with a separate living area and bedroom, plus private bath. Drapes blocked drafts and light so we slept beautifully all three nights of our stay. Our only issues were the fact that housekeeping didn't service us one night so we returned from sightseeing to a dirty room with not enough towels or coffee for morning, and the furniture is on the wrong side of fresh. Both the chair and sofa were dirty from age. Our front door was also scratched up as someone clearly snuck a dog in as I don't think dogs are allowed on the property. The bathroom also needs updating. I think either the original floor is in place or one from the early '60s. Either way, it needs to be replaced. But these flaws aside, the cabin is comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, but look forward to an update. I would like to add that when we went to the front desk to report housekeeping ignored us, the woman working there immediately put together a bag of coffees, shampoos, cups, and soaps. She also handed over a pile of towels for us and apologized for housekeeping's neglect.

    « Great retreat »

Great place to get away and relax while still close to many site seeing opportunities. I recommend river view rooms. Fantastic grand hall with lots of seating for relaxing, visiting, looking out over the river.

    « Relaxing getaway! »

First time to Pere Marquette. It did not disappoint! Fascinating historical Lodge & Cabins. Great hiking. Comfortable, clean room at the Lodge. The restaurant had great service and really good food at a reasonable price. Can't wait to come back during a different season.

    « Always a Good Time »

If you have a large group and want time for people to visit and explore outside, Pere Marquette is the place for you! This lodge is rustic and cozy while offering amenities such as an indoor pool and restaurant. The grounds are very relaxing and there is unlimited fun to be had between the oversized chess game and the amazing hiking trails!

    « great family getaway »

Another great trip to Pere Marquette Lodge. Excellent restaurant. Grand kids love the indoor pool. Special thanks to Darlene. She made our breakfast experience very special. She is professional, cordial, and very proficient. Beautiful sunset over the Illinois River. We look forward to a return visit.

Pere Marquette Lodge is our favorite weekend getaway!! The lodge offers everything you need for a fun, relaxing getaway!! We enjoy the beautiful scenic views, fun lodge activities, delicious fried chicken dinners at the restaurant, and the quaint historic cabins!! If you're in the Grafton area, make plans to visit Pere Marquette Lodge!!!!

    « Picturesque! »

Our Association held our Summer Conference here and it was very nice! Right off the river and not far from shopping and adventure such as hiking, fishing or Zip lining nearby. Meeting rooms were spacious and food was excellent.

« Pere Marquette Lodge & Conference Center »

Pere Marquette is located on Route 100 North in Grafton, Illinois. It is a beautiful location that offers cabins, or a lodge to stay. The restaurant has a wide variety of great, delicious dishes to choose from, but offers a unique way to serve large groups over 12 people. They offer two pieces of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, string beans, rolls and a choice of water, ice tea or coffee. The food is served family style and is served hot and well prepared. The meal also includes a piece of peach or apple pie. The lodge is located on a very beautiful spot on the Illinois River and can be access from Missouri by taking the Eagle ferry across the Mississippi then drive through Calhoun County and crossing the Illinois River on the Brussels Ferry. The trip to the lodge is well worth time to enjoy all it's beauty.

« Nice Stop Along The River Road »

Spent our anniversary taking a ride from Alton to Grafton. The River Road was beautiful...the bluffs, river traffic, lots of eagles, the awesome view from Aeries where the Illinois and Mississippi come together, and then our evening stop at Pere Marquette. Very nice staff, big, comfortable room, quiet. We drove to the scenic overlook, then spent some time in the pool and hot tub. Had dinner at the lodge's restaurant...very nice, food was great, big portions, great service. Great venue for an overnight get-away with someone special.

    « Wonderful Rustic Retreat! »

My sister and I have been visiting Pere Marquette Lodge every fall for several years. The Lodge is such a warm, rustic retreat! The room is always clean and comfortable. We prefer to stay in the new section of the lodge because it is near the pool and hot tub and there is an elevator to access the second floor. I'm sure the rooms in the original section of the lodge are very nice also, but there is no elevator and if you want to use the pool, you'll have to walk through the lobby. We always have dinners in the dining room and the food is excellent. They have a huge variety of menu items at reasonable prices. We particularly like the French Onion Soup and the fried chicken! The service is good and waiters/waitresses are always friendly. After dinner we enjoy just relaxing in the huge lobby by the massive fireplace. There are board games available, or you can just enjoy the view of the River through the many windows. And the sunsets over the River are beautiful. If you're looking for a quiet place to unwind in a rustic yet comfortable lodge, Pere Marquette is just the place for you.

    « Very relaxing »

Great atmosphere. Very nice rooms and food is great. The people are very nice. Sitting on the patio having wine is as good as it gets. The river is right there. Sitting in the lodge listening to music or enjoying the fire is great.

    « Birthday Getaway »

We love staying at Pere Marquette Lodge. Have been coming here for over 40 years. Beautiful location and lots of history. We were very happy overall with our stay except for the bathroom, which did not appear to have been thoroughly cleaned ??

« A great lodge not too far from the city. »

Our stay at the Pere Marquette was pleasant and comfortable. The staff was accommodating. Being January, the lodge was not as crowded as probably the warmer months. And also being the colder months, the rate was very appealing. We were there to see and hear about the migration of the eagles.

    « Wonderful! »

Such a great place to stay! Love the history and structure of the lodge. Beautiful views of the river. Great food in the restaurant. Check out their package deals--can find some real savings particularly in the off season.

« Great food and wonderful ambience! »

I took my family here for my husband's birthday and we enjoyed excellent service and FABULOUS fried chicken! It was a little quiet in the restaurant ~ my kids mentioned they'd love to hear a little classical music in the background (that was a first for this crew!) It would definitely match the setting. It's such a beautiful spot, and after dropping off our children, my husband and I returned for a night in one of the cabins. It was warm and cozy, spacious and clean. Loved the thick stone walls and wood paneling and the bed was pretty comfy as well. It would be a great place for a couple or a family. The "fireplace" insert was just a plug-in model which didn't produce any heat, but the room was plenty warm even though it was below freezing outside. Wish we'd had time to try out the pool and hot tub in the main lodge area, but we were happy enough to just enjoy the room. The trails and views in the area are beautiful, and the VIsitor's Center for the State Park is right next door. Definitely worth a trip!

« Great place to stay! »

This is a beautiful lodge nestled in a state park with beautiful scenery. The food was really good and reasonable. Service was excellent. Room was pretty, clean, spacious and comfortable. No refrigerator or microwave, but with a restaurant right there it wasn't really needed.

    « Eagle viewing »

We booked 2 rooms at the lodge, 1 for us and one for my parents. The staff was very attentive, the rooms were clean and the food in the restaurant was good. We had the eagle viewing package which included our supper and breakfast. This is a lodge built by the CCC with a huge fireplace in the main room. We love this place.

    « Great state park »

Great Illinois state park with a lot of hiking trails, rooms overlooking the Illinois river, restaurant and bar. the rooms are generous in fridge, Kurig coffee maker and no elevator in the older section. Nice cozy place to stay. The Eagle watch package is a good deal which includes breakfast and dinner off a select menu.

« Relaxation feels so good »

The bald eagles and trumpeter swans are visiting the area, so here I am! I am staying in one of the historic cabins. The stone / log walls lend a naturally rustic quality, while the interior furnishings are as plush as you would want. The setting on the river, the scenic drives, the comfortable lodge, and the grand restaurant all contribute to a lovely experience.

« Annual Pere Marquette Pilgrimmage »

We have been bringing our family to this property every year between Christmas and New Years for the past 12 years. I was initially concerned that the hotel had been purchased by Best Western 8 months before. This turned out to be the best weekend at the lodge we have had. It was due to the exceptional service of the staff. Every request was met with a smile and quick turn-around. They have clearly done a great job hiring this group of individuals.

    « Great Value »

We attended the New Year's event at the lodge which included hotel room, appetizers, open bar, buffet dinner, a live band and breakfast the next morning. A great value. Always love this lodge and the setting in Pere Marquette Park.

« Pere Marquette Lodge New Years ve »

The Lodge is beautiful. Historic, but well maintained. The New Years Eve package was a great value, and the staff managed the evening very well. The food was very good, and all of the Lodge staff were friendly and helpful. We will be doing this event again.

« Cabin Stays at Pere Marquette Lodge »

Second time we have stayed in a cabin at this lodge. Beautiful surroundings and nice rustic cabins. Each has a king bed as well as a set of bunk beds. Bathrooms are small, but fine. Beds and linens were extremely comfortable. Staff at the lodge are friendly and at your service. Food is always great!

    « Great Kick-off to Christmas »

This hotel was a fantastic place to kick-off the Christmas weekend. We were able to enjoy a relaxing dinner and then spent time playing games in front of the fire in the lodge. It is a great country get-away to relax and unwind.

This place is a hidden gem. An absolutely perfect place for a family get away. The large fireplace and view of the river set the tone for an old fashioned New England style lodge. The pool area is wonderful also.

« Old Time Lodge in a State Park »

Amazing lodge in the middle of a wonderfulbpark and area in general. Beautiful rooms with a great staff. Huge lobby area with a giant chess board. Beautiful woodworking all over the lodge too. Outside area to relax on, enjoy a beverage, and watch the river traffic go by or take a drive or hike in the park. Restaurant is nice with an upscale atmosphere, but the food was quite reasonable.

    « Pere Marquette Lodge »

Our stay was started with a friendly staff which gave us loads of information about the lodge layout and hours. They informed us of Wi-Fi network availability and events going on in the lodge. Our room was clean, the add on package I had ordered was in the room. The bed was comfortable and the showers were hot. We had a wonderful hike the following morning, and enjoyed spending out day in Grafton at the wine bars, shopping, and site seeing. I was very impressed with the lodge restaurant and the quality of the dinner. We will book another stay in the future.

« Wine tasting room at pere marquette lodge »

Excellent wine! Had trouble remembering which sample was which but love the wines. Wishing there was more room outside to enjoy sampling but overall great experience. Love playing life size chess on the lodge floor.

    « A lovely place to recharge »

My husband and I stayed at this state park lodge for 3 nights. It was just what we needed to turn off the tension of a too-busy life. We used to come here with our children and now we return as seniors. Best Western has taken over the management of the hotel and restaurant. I imagine they had a lot to do after several years without a state budget. Food at the restaurant is excellent and moderately priced. Staff at the entire lodge is exceedingly pleasant and management eager to please. I am no longer able to walk the lovely hills, but there is plenty of riverfront to walk and explore. This place still works its magic on us.

« A short drive away but so restful »

We look forward to the Eagle watchers package coming up in January and February. It is the most relaxing weekend away from St Louis that we have experienced. Everyhing was wonderful. The Food was greaat, the room quiet and large and the scenery was top notch.

« A wonderful place to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner! »

My sweetheart and I have a tradition of having Thanksgiving Dinner at the lodge. The majestic timber frame lodge provides a perfect backdrop for a delicious Thanksgiving feast. The buffet style dinner offers all of the traditional Thanksgiving dinner favorites - turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, and much more. And, of course, Thanksgiving Dinner would not be complete without dessert and there are many to choose from, including pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cheesecake and many more. Amazing food and an affordable price. 2 thumbs up and 5 stars!

    « Family gathering »

We spent Thanksgiving at Pierre Marquette Lodge with 14 family members. It was a wonderful place to gather together--lots of room to spread out and enjoy each other. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and the ping pong room and there were tables and chairs in the lobby to play cards. The hiking was good with wonderful views of the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. Great trip.

« Pere Marquette still a wonderful place to unwind »

The Pere Marquette lodge is now being administered by Best Western. We hadn't been there for more than 17 years, but it's being restored to its 1930's glory. The park is magnificent and and the lodge comfortable and welcoming

    « Rustic Lodge »

We stayed at this hotel for a friend's wedding. The decor is rustic americana and seems quite authentic. The rooms and amenities seemed to be geared toward the geriatric crowd and their grandchildren, but the wedding in the lobby was quite pleasant. We were a little put-off by the smell of our room and the quality of the internet, but other than that, not a bad place to stay. Beautiful natural surroundings right on the river!

« Glimpse of the Past »

The Rustic Lodge and grounds are Beautiful and a glimpse of days gone by. The food is very good for breakfast and dinner. I recommend the fried chicken or lasagna. We stayed in the newer area of the lodge. The bed was comfortable, the room could be updated and improved some, but the positive outweighed a few negatives. I would recommend staying here for a relaxing get a way for hiking and nature.

    « Sweet ?local? getaway »

We spent the night at the lodge to see the fall colors and brought my husband's senior mom so she could enjoy the lodge too. Loved the great room, the fireplace and the ease of parking. The rooms were comfortable and well provisioned with up to date coffee makers and flat screen TVs. There are well placed ramps for people who don't feel at ease on stairs. Very nice! Dining room was OK, but menu needs updating to offer at least a couple gluten free options and healthier options. We figured it out, but the steamed vegetable plate offering for dinner is so outdated! And menu is heavy on ?meat and sweet? items. Would love to see more fruit and whole grain products available, thanks!) One small negative - the dining room wasn't overly crowded, but dinner service was very slow and inattentive. Dishes piled up on our table and no one offered to take them away, refill our water glasses, etc. Staff training to improve customer service would be great!

    « Restaurant »

We chose to have dinner in the restaurant at the lodge, and was very disappointed. We were not happy with the salad, the dressing on the salad was awful, and the lasagna could have been better. We contacted our server, and the check was adjusted.

« Beautiful lodge and park »

We were there for a wedding; came in a day early for rehearsal dinner; the lodge is very nice, the rooms are nice and spacious and the park has some spectacular views and good hiking trails; the nearby town of Grafton has many restaurant options including a great brewhaus/winery were we went for the rehearsal dinner. The wedding was beautiful...the ceremony was in the lodge in front of a huge fire place and then the reception was in one of the private dining rooms....had a wonderful time!!

    « Rating »

Our stay could have been better, water bugs in room and window wouldn't close. Staff did seem concerned and said they would send someone to fix it and offered a discount when checking out. We may return next year, we went for the wine tasting event.

    « so much fun!! »

We went for the wine festival and stayed the night in one of the cabins. The wine festival was packed but we still had a good time. It would of been nice to have to wines that we sampled available for purchase. We ate two times at the restaurant, both times the food and service were amazing!. We were really surprised at how low cost it was. We stayed in the cabins for the night. It was perfect for us. We had room to play cards with our friends who we were there with. The bed was comfy, the room was clean. Only change I would make is a taller showerheads for us tall people. We went for a drive thru the park before we left and that was breathtaking!

    « Excellent Visit »

My wife and I went for brunch which they offer every Sunday in October. Wonderful meal with lots of options. Reasonable prices for a hotel of this caliber, if your looking for happy meal prices though, it's not for you. Will definitely be back.

    « Not a Family Friendly Hotel »

We went there with our three young kids, ages 6, 4, and 2. From reading on the website, I was hoping that I was missing something about the food options at this place. This is the aspect that makes it not family friendly. There is only one restaurant on the resort, and it is not really an ideal place to eat every meal. For us to eat breakfast there would cost $60. There are not mini fridges in the room, so bringing our own food is not an option and there are no restaurants close by to order pizza or other kid friendly food. The wifi is pretty much useless unless in the lobby and there were broken windows in our room that wouldn't close all the way and I killed two spiders in our room. The rooms definitely need a face lift. This lodge is definitely geared toward an older crowd.

« Relaxing and Just My Speed »

This is a beautiful CCC style lodge... lots of log and stone. We stayed in the cabin rooms and they were very big and comfortable. The hikes and views are just relaxing. There is an indoor pool, that was a wee bit chilly, but a hot tub and sauna that were very nice. We availed ourselves of the restaurant several times and enjoyed it thoroughly. I also had a glass of wine from the winery and sat and watched the river, while the children rolled down the grassy hill. It was just very calming, and I loved it.

« Beautiful setting. Great for families »

The rates for the cabins were very reasonable. The beds were comfortable and it was clean. Prices in the restaurant are also reasonable. Overall family friendly in a beautiful setting! We will definitely be back!

    « Wonderful stay »

Wonderful old school resort. Stayed in one of the cabins. Hiked a few different trails that were well marked. Lovely grounds. Breakfast omelette was amazing. Husband had the fried chicken at dinner (they are known for that) and said it was the best he ever had. We will for sure return.

« Excellent food and service at the restaurant »

We had a gathering of about 20 people to take care of family business in the area, and the restaurant proved perfect for a group luncheon. the food and service were both excellent, and prices were reasonable. The lodge and park are beautiful.

    « A Quiet Escape »

This is the perfect place if you're a people person or if you like quiet little getaways. They have many activities throughout the year, as well as an adorable restaurant open year-round, so if you like to be around others, there are plenty of things to do and good times to stay there. We like to go mid-week in the wintertime when there's less of a crowd and it feels more private. We stay in the lodge as opposed to the cabins because we love the river views, and if you're lucky enough to have it snow while you're there, it's like being in a post card. We especially like the location of being "away" but we don't have to drive hours to get there. The open lobby area of the lodge is where we spend most of our time playing games or reading and relaxing with a snack. We also love going on drives of the park grounds up high where there are awesome views. I highly recommend it. I forgot to say for outdoor people, there is a big camping area and horseback riding!

    « A wonderful relaxing atmosphere »

A well- kept rustic lodge with a wonderful restaurant. The lodge is set in a park area with views of the river. A very big, comfortable great room with fireplace and lots of comfy chairs. My friends and I stayed 2 nights as a get-away. Great place for hiking and biking. The indoor heated pool/hot tub was very nice. we enjoyed some shopping in Grafton, some stores were closed since we were there in October, mid-week.

    « Quiet and relaxing »

We had a one night stay here as part of a tour group. The Lodge was exceptionally clean, beds were very comfortable, and the public areas had lots of seating with a great view of the river. The wine bar was small, but fully stocked and reasonable.

    « Quick Getaway »

Great Location, So quiet and relaxing. Great views Day and Night. Stars were beautiful Staff was terrific Restaurant was very good the food was terrific and they serve huge portions. Cozy lobby and nicely appointed rooms.

    « A Great Sisters Getaway »

My sisters and I went for a getaway and we had an amazing weekend. We took the Hakuna Matada cruise, and came back to the lodge for our weekend. We had gotten the Throw Back Pkg, and it was wonderful. You can't find a better deal anywhere, especially for the amenities you get and at such a beautiful place. We got to reconnect, relax and laughed like we did when we were younger! The food was awesome, the service is the best around . They make sure you don't want for anything. We had one of the best times that I can remember having together. We all have been there before and enjoyed it, but this time was special. I'll never forget it! Thanks for allowing us to have this memory! We are coming back!!

« Great place to stay and relax »

The Lodge is absolutely beautiful with a great restaurant. The lodge has a great room with a huge fire place, seating for a couple of hundred people and a giant chess board. With the pool and hot tub it has such a relaxing atmosphere. Sit in the lodge with a glass of wine from the Mary Michelle Winery that is present in the lodge or your choice of beverage is a change of pace from your hectic life. My wife and I have been going there every year for the last 20 years. Try it and you will want to go back.

    « Best getaway EVER! »

Pere Marquette is the best getaway EVER! The lodge and the surrounding area is both beautiful and peaceful. We were married there so maybe we're a bit biased, but our 12 and 10 year old children beg to visit every year and to stay more than one night. The restaurant is good, pool is big, and hot tub is hands down the best we ever experienced. Plus there are things to do in the park and in nearby Grafton. Rooms are always clean and service is always good. Of course, fall is an ideal time to visit, but if you are in need of a getaway, Pere Marquette Lodge is great anytime.

    « 40th anniversary »

I surprised my wife for our 40th anniversary by flying all our children into town and then having a three day escape at Pere Marquette. If you want to get away from it all this is a perfect place. The food in the lodge is outstanding and at very reasonable prices. A great place to go to get away.

    « Relaxing getaway »

We have stayed at the lodge many times. Each time we were very pleased. The front desk staff are very helpful and friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurant is very good and reasonable. We like to sit on the terrace with a drink and enjoy the view of the river. The wine tasting room was fun. All in all it is a great place for a nice getaway.

    « Beautiful fall getaway »

Clean, comfortable, and beautiful scenery. The cabins are awesome, the restaurant is very good and very reasonably priced. Everyone is friendly and the place is clean. There is a really nice scenic drive that is beautiful in the fall and several trails to hike. The view of the river is nice as well. We are looking forward to another visit soon.

    « Always a GREAT Experience »

I have stayed at this property numerous times. The rooms are spotlessly clean. The front desk service is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is not amazing, but is a very very good value. I love staying in the "historic" section as well as the "cabins." However, the newer area is just fine too. The pool is pretty large. The historic "lodge" setting is just great. If you want something a bit different, stay here! Easy and lovely drive up from St. Louis for a over night trip!

« Hidden Gem of the Saint Louis Area »

The Pere Marquette Lodge is hidden along the Great River Road. It's a beautiful lodge and park. Every staff person we encountered was friendly and professional. Our bartender was friendly and went out of her way to make the best Long Island Tea I've ever had. There are cabins available as well as tent & RV camping areas. A great place for a weekend get-a-way.

    « Anniversary celebration »

Very good experience. Toilet bowl was stained. Sheets need to be replaced. Restaurant in evening and breakfast good value and good selection. Have stayed here before ande have enjoyed it each time. We don't live very far away.

« Very nice state park lodge »

We stayed one night in a king cabin. The room was very comfortable and clean. This cabin was built in the 1930's by the CCC. There are also rooms in the lodge. The restaurant is very good. We had dinner and breakfast there. It is a beautiful dining room and the service and food was good. Internet connection is not good in the cabin but you can connect in the lodge. The grounds are very well kept. There is an indoor pool which we did not use but it looked nice. This state park is rural -the closest town is about five miles away.

    « Beautiful Time »

We come every summer and really enjoy ourselves. The food in the restaurant was good and so was the service. Our room was nice and we enjoyed the pool area. The lobby as always was fun with the chess board and large games.

    « Love the Lodge »

I always enjoy staying at the Lodge. It is quiet and relaxing. It is a short ferry ride across the river to St. Charles, MO and a scenic drive along the river through Alton and Grafton back to the Lodge. The area shops and hometown restaurants take back to when small hometowns were thriving. I can't wait to plan my next visit back to the Pere Marquette Lodge.

« Great time at in Grafton area »

Stayed overnight in a stone cottage near the Lodge. We ate dinner and breakfast in the Lodge restaurant, but did not get to try out the winery (which closed at 8pm). We did use the pool/hot tub which was nice. We explored off site by going to the Raging Rivers Water Park in the afternoon before we could check in, and then to the Pere Marquette Horse Stables down the road for some trail riding the next morning. Added together, these make a nice group of amenities for a family get away.

    « Gross! »

I wanted to love this place but I had too many bad experiences. My family rented two rooms at the lodge to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. We found a pair of men's underwear hanging in the shower and there was hair in a ball on the bathroom floor. The fitness center had a vacuum in the room that looked like it exploded. The food at the restaurant was awful! Fruit but of a can for my kids, shrimp tasted disgusting and brown pineapple was served for breakfast. The trails were mostly closed due to a storm but the receptionist at the desk couldn't tell us which ones were open. When we did venture on to the trails, the trees and bushes were so overgrown, it was hard to enjoy them. It seemed like the state is just letting this beautiful park go. Overall, I'm guessing Pere Marquette was amazing 20 years ago. They need a major revamp and remodel.

    « Ok visit »

We spent 2 nights at the lodge with our granddaughters. The food in the restaurant was excellent, the staff was friendly, and the grounds are well kept. My only reason for 3 stars is we were given a room that overlooked the indoor pool. We didn't realize it until we had all of our belongings in the room. It turned out to be a very noisy, humid room. The pool is open from 8 am to 10 pm so it was noisy most of the time. It would have been nice if the front desk asked us if we wanted a room overlooking the pool. We were hoping for a peaceful stay.

    « Pere Marquette stay »

Nice hotel, needs updating. Staff was very helpful. Mattress was hard, for the price per night had to ask for a refrigerator to be brought to the room and it was extra cost on the bill. Dinner was excellent. Hotel lost power when we asked the staff when it might be back on nothing good was said. Very large storm had come through was not sure if we were going to stay the second night we had booked due to no electric.

    « Nice place for a meeting »

This is a great place for a business retreat. It truly gets you away from the world without much connectivity via the internet... the rooms are dated but clean and the bed is comfortable. If you're looking for something slick this is not the place for your business meeting. If you're looking for a true get away, you're at the right place.

    « Nature and nurture »

Found this place looking for trails around St. Louis and was pleased to discover they rented cabins for a very reasonable rate. This place exceeded expectations especially for the price. The trails had a good mix of terrain with great views, running the outer rim was about 7 miles with options to add in smaller trail loops. The lodge and cabins are beautiful and surrounded by quiet nature. The facilities were clean and in good working order. I enjoyed the hot tub and sauna after a trek on the trails. The restaurant is good and reasonably priced. There are also nice shopping and eating options at the nearby town of Grafton. The only knock I can find for the place is a chloring-like aftertaste to the tap water which is supplied by the state park's treatment system. Take a jug of drinking water. Overall I highly recommend it and would love to go back and visit again!

    « Wedding »

The drive into the park calms the nerves. As we turned the corner heading up to the lodge we saw where the wedding was going to be. Parking is nearby. We entered the lodge and saw the giant chessboard and fireplace and friends. The staff was very friendly showing us around. The wedding was held on the hillside in the shade of the trees a short walk from the lodge. Afterwards we headed back for some adult beverages and conversation before dinner. The staff had everything ready once it was time for dinner. A buffet line was just outside the room along with bar. Erin had got Scott Monahan to DJ the reception. He did an excellent job of keeping things moving and music everyone could hum or sing to. The wait staff kept our glasses full and used plates cleaned up. We asked about coffee and the girl said I'll follow you to your table. Enjoyed the afternoon. A definite come back.

« Two day business trip »

The lodge was very clean with large rooms. The atmosphere is very quite and relaxing. A perfect place to visit if you want to "unplug" from technology. Phone service and wifi is at best very limited. The local town offered several small restaurants with mostly sandwiches on the menu. There's nothing fancy about this trip, but it was still enjoyable. The terrain is beautiful. The river and bluffs are inspiring.

    « Relaxing Ladies Getaway »

We stayed here for one night during a ladies getaway this past Monday. We had a wonderful time at the lodge, the large chess set, and the winery were among our favorite. The hotel room was very comfortable with a large, very cozy king sized bed. The staff were very kind and accommodating, even had our room ready for an early check-in. We will definitely be back!

« Cool place to hide on a hot summer day. Good Food »

We had a group of retired River Men and wives. Stopped in to view the Old Lodge and stayed for a delicious chicken dinner. Family style with mashed potatoes, green beans and good cold drink. One person had the salmon and loved it.

« Overall good. Great views and unique location. Does need a few improvements. »

We have stayed at the lodge several times and I am sure we will stay again. We have stayed in the cabins (which is good for a couple's retreat) and had a good experience and this time we stayed in the lodge (the older wing) with our kids. There are a lot of families with kids and teens so if you are looking for a quiet getaway I would recommend a cabin. I will go into detail but my overall review in a nutshell is that you do get a lot of value in what you pay for a room (which for us was $109 per night when we stayed Wed/Thurs. The value is in the beauty of your surroundings. The grounds are well kept, the nature trails and views are spectacular. You can see a lot of wildlife and take some great pictures. It is great for bike rides. There are things that are good about the lodge and some things that could be improved upon. There is an older wing and newer wing. We stayed in the older wing so I cannot compare the two. I will say that our room was spacious and the view of the rivers from our room was stunning. We did walk in and the air conditioning unit was sitting there apart (the shell or housing was off) like someone had been working on it and didn't put it back together. We called right away to have that taken care of. I don't know what all the rooms are like but I will tell you that the window in our room unlatches in two places and opens right up to the roof of the lodge (no screen, etc- see in the pic). We have two kids (9 and 7) who would never mess with that but if you have kids who are climbers and get into things this would not be a good room and I would check when you make reservations. One latch is higher but a kid can get to it standing on the air conditioning unit. The bathroom was very clean and remodeled. Linens and towels were good. Beds were comfortable. No mini fridge in the room which would have been nice but we had a cooler. Apparently you have to pay extra for one. Really? We did order a rollaway bed (also an extra fee but okay) that was old and the mattress was no good. It broke when my 7yo laid down and we had to get another one. I told the desk agent they needed to throw the first one out unless they want someone to get injured. The carpet in the room should probably be replaced soon but it was clean. The great room is very cool. It's the heart of the lodge. The kids played chess and the large connect four. There is a nice outdoor area but unfortunately that seems to be the designated smoking area so we did not sit outside. The pool was very clean and the kids really liked it. Bathrooms are right there, and there is a whirlpool and sauna. Everything was clean and in order. On a side note there are rooms in the newer wing of the lodge that face the pool (you can see in my pic). There are privacy walls but those rooms face that. I would not stay in these rooms. In my picture the pool was empty but later there was a large group of teens (very loud) and you could see the people in the rooms looking out, etc. Pool open til 10pm. The views from the pool and deck outside the pool are great. The outside furniture was filthy and no one was out there. This areas could be so much better. The thing I found to be the most disappointing was the customer service, and we're not the type who expect hospitality staff to go overboard or wait on us hand and foot The front desk staff was very lackluster. They were not rude but they were certainly not friendly. We checked in and were greated by a woman with just a rather blunt, "How can I help you." She had no personality of any kind or made any effort to be warm and welcoming. When we called down to get the air conditioning fixed and rollaway beds no one answered the phone at the front desk after several calls spread out over time. We had to walk down there for everything. Then a young man brought up a rollaway bed and just used his key card to start entering our room without even knocking. We left to go hiking and a few women dropped bottles of wine right at the entrance and there was glass everywhere. The front desk was notified and when we came back from hiking there was still glass everywhere. So I think their staff needs more training in hospitality. I see that some people have had great service and others not so much like us, so there seems to be a lack of consistency. We ate breakfast one morning at the lodge and the food was good. Our waitress was also very lackluster. She took our order and brought our food prompty. She just did what she had to do. No personality. The windows were pretty dirty, you could see a lot of cobwebs in the chandeliers. My chair had absolutely no spring in the cusion at all. The two friendlist staff we met was a woman cleaning the pool area. She was very nice and so was a maintenance man who took the time to give us some ideas of where to go to take great pictures of nature and animals. We saw him later in the great room and he asked how our adventures were going. His attitude and friendliness is what the whole staff needs. They probably need more housekeeping and maintenance staff for a place this big. If this was a regular hotel somewhere without all the scenery, nice pool and unique things I would probably rate it a 2. Because of the location I give it a 3.5 but I'll round it up to 4 because the maintenance man restored our faith in hospitality. Maybe the owners and desk staff fall back on their location and scenery a little too much. I understand it takes a lot of money and effort to run an old lodge like this but there are a lot of small changes that could be made to make it a 5 star location in my opinion.

    « Historic and in a park »

Our family enjoyed 1 night in a cabin room in Pere Marquette State Park. The Visitor Center and Scenic Drive are nearby. The Lodge itself is historic (CCC era construction). The breakfast buffet was adequate; my favorite part was the fresh fruit. Overall it was a very pleasant experience for a reasonable cost.

Pere Marquette cabins are the best!!! Quite,rustic,romantic.. The limestone walls are like 15 inches thick, so quite clean, cozy I can go on and on love them!!! My wife have stayed there 6 times in the last 3 months cause we love the serenity !!! The restaurant and the food is second to none especially the fried chicken GETTYUP!!!! The people are so friendly and bend over backwards to accommodate you!!!! And the price, you can't beat it!!! Just a great place to go for a night or weekend.....

« Continue to come back »

Love this place! Love the romance package. Champaign and chocolates are wonderful. The park area is well maintained. They also have cabins to stay in. The lodge food is excellent. We had the pot roast and walleye dinners.

    « Great Weekend Getaway »

We love this Lodge. There is so much to do at the lodge and in Grafton. It's always a fun time. The restaurant has good food at reasonable prices. Their chef makes all the banquet dinners exceptional.

    « Reunion »

We are always pleased with Best Western the staff the hotel and accomodations always make our travel such a pleasure first thing we look at in our travel is the location of best western and how we get there. this hotel in general is excellent and the staff so helpful and friendly

    « Overnight stay »

Had a wonderful time. Staff was very helpful & the cabin was clean & great place to relax. Also enjoyed food, huge great room, museum, swimming pool & hot tub. The price of cabin was also very reasonable.

    « One-night stay »

We stayed overnight for a wedding/reception. The wedding was held in the great room which, to us, isn't very ideal because as we're waiting for the ceremony to begin, the general public is walking through and hanging out in the great room. I don't know if people were still walking through during the ceremony or not, we had our backs turned, but there didn't seem to be anything to stop them. The reception was held in what I guess is the conference center. Smaller than many reception halls we've been to, but it fit our group well. The dance floor is tiny. Or at least the tiled section that's supposed to be the dance floor. Some people had to overflow onto the carpet at times to dance. There's a long, outdoor balcony that overlooks the River Rd. and Illinois River. Nice spot to step away from the party for a minute, but used by all the smokers, so not very pleasant for us non-smokers. We stayed in one of the cabins. Our building had four separate hotel rooms in it, but I think most have three. Our room was a decent size. King bed, a set of bunk beds, and a pull-out loveseat/bed. Plus a chair. It had a vanity area with mirror, sink, & hair dryer divided off from the main space. This is where the Keurig coffee maker is with three coffee packets (one decaf). The bathroom is tiny (toilet & tub/shower). Kind of difficult to step in and close the door it's so small. The exhaust fan did not work. The shower head is very low, so even for someone of average height, I had to bend over to wash my hair. The room overall was clean, but the floors were absolutely FILTHY! After a short while of walking barefoot, my feet were black. To the maid who found the blackened wash rag by the sink, I had to wash my feet before putting socks on. CLEAN THE FLOORS! The bed was comfortable. The A/C works very well, but is adjustable if too cold for you. If you want a mini-fridge, you have to pay $10. We brought a cooler. I don't understand why they'd rather go through the hassle of delivering mini-fridges to rooms rather than just put them in there to stay. It was nice being able to park our car behind the cabin instead of in the lodge parking lot, which would've been a long walk with luggage & stuff. The one thing we disliked most was the price. Not a price we like to pay for a single overnight stay. We live not too far away and come this way now & again, so there's nothing special enough about this place to get us to pay the price.

    « Love this place! »

We've stayed here 4 or 5 times and they've all been great. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable and quiet. The main room of the lodge is absolutely amazing. They have a huge chess board - fun, checkers - fun, lounging in front of the fireplace - relaxing, a nice patio - relaxing, beautiful scenery inside and out, a nice pool and hot tub. The pool and hot tub are nice, even though the pool is really cold (even in summer) and the hot tub temperature can span from tepid to oh-my-gosh-my-skin-is-melting-off. The restaurant is just beautiful and serves absolutely delicious food. I've been there for breakfast, lunch and dinner and never had a bad meal. Bit swamped when there's a wedding, you might want to ask if there's one the when you stay because it makes the main room unusable (which is fine because there's still the pool/hot tub/sauna and patio, and it's awkward weaving in and out of wedding guests to get to/from the restaurant. But go anyway because it's just that unique! Rich history. Views from the top of the bluff are lovely. Never hiked here but there are lots of trails. They also have a lot of activities (mystery dinners, learning to make stained glass, bird identification parties...) so that's fun, too! And right up the road from a great water park and antique shops.

« Pere Marquette Lodge Experience »

We just loved the Pere Marquette Lodge. It was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions. The view from anywhere on the grounds were amazing!! The food was the best. We never have eaten fried chicken as good as it was there. Awesome! Every meal we had, the food was delicious! The atmosphere was very warm and rustic. We would recommend Pere Marquette Lodge for anyone...both young and old.

« Great place for a true getaway »

Loved staying here. We used to drive up here just to eat the fried chicken dinner, but so glad we finally stayed. Cabins are lovely, comfortable and so nice to be separated from technology(no cell or internet). Highly recommend for a relaxing time away.

    « Pere Marquette Lodge »

We have stayed both in the lodge and the cabins. The last time was in the cabins. The accommodations were excellent and very quiet. I would recommend the cabins over the lodge unless heavy rain is predicted.

    « Love this resort! »

From the life size chess game to the wines this place is great getaway. Great food if you can wait. Worth the ride on motorcycle along river road. This is a frequent destination ride....across two ferries.

    « Lovely Place to Stay, But . . . »

This is a beautiful place to stay, in a state park right on the Missouri River. The Lodge, cabins, and grounds are well-maintained. The park is beautiful with a scenic drive and multiple hiking trails, none too demanding. I reserved three cabin rooms for myself and friends online. Two of the rooms were lovely, rustic CCC stone construction with beautiful old wood paneling and comfortable sitting areas. The bathrooms were small, but nice, everything spotless. But the third room was not as nice and had no sitting area at all. If you like rustic, this is a great place to stay, but phone for reservations and be very specific about the rooms that you want. The Lodge itself is very attractive, and the restaurant food is very good.

« Quaint retreat in the middle of a scenic heaven! »

The lodge is rustic and takes you back in time, but the rooms are modern and have everything you need! Cell phone service is pretty much non-existent, but the break was refreshing. Indoor pool, amazing hiking trails and scenic lookout points. The perfect spot to get away. Staff is more than accommodating and the on-site winery is a treat. The food is always top notch at the restaurant.

« If all the overlooks have trees ? what did we overlook? »

The main road to the park, 100, was flooded on our trip, this happens when you build a road at the same elevation as the Mississippi River, causing us to go the backway. All locals know the backway, but we are not local and never went the same ?backway? twice, just glad to get to town and back, although, dazed and confused. We had a cabin that worked well for two people, we have been to all the CCC lodges in Illinois and Indiana, and CCC cabins tend to be for large families or rustic, if this is your situation too ? go for the cabin over the lodge here. The restaurant is its same beautiful self, just off the same great room with giant stone fire place. What could be different, I believe the prices were very low, and since going back and forth to town was difficult at our stay, this was a life saver. Atmosphere great, food good, service sincere, but slow. Front desk maned by both adults and kids, but all were adoptable.

    « A Perfect Day »

My wife and I took our two youngest up from Stl. to The Lodge for the Morel Hunt. We didn't find any, but it was a beautiful day, and everyone had a good time, including our 12-year old daughter who hadn't felt like going. The activities, the stunning scenery, the wonderful food and service at the all added up to a perfect day's get-away. We recall fondly the times we have stayed the night, and the facilities are terrific, the staff makes you feel welcomed, and the surroundings are so beautiful and serene and help you feel you've truly gotten away from it all. You feel immersed with nature, and yet privy to top-rate comforts and amenities. I write, and I don't know that there's a better spot than snug in one of the comfy chairs in the great lobby, overlooking the river, enjoying a coffee or other beverage. :) Thanks, Pere Marquette, for a perfect day, and keep doing what you do!

    « Peaceful and Quite »

Historic lodge with nice and comfortable rooms. Staff friendly and helpful. My husband and I were there April 18-19 and the spring flowers and dogwood trees were in bloom. We hiked one of the trails and enjoyed nature in the state park. The informational movies, especially the one on the Conservation Crops, in the Visitor Center were good.

« Historical getaway close to St. Louis with lots to do »

We stayed in one of the cabins. The space was roomy and very comfortable. The cabins and lodge were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the depression and have been renovated several times. They are not modern or luxurious, but the price is reasonable and the overall experience is well worth it. PM State Park has great hiking and excellent raptor watching. I think we saw 12 hawks or eagles in just a few minutes of sitting at a river overlook. Our fried chicken at dinner was excellent. The breakfast buffet was disappointing. I think that overall, the food is okay, nothing special.

    « Nice Getaway »

My husband and I went for an overnight trip. Great hiking, nice lounge with local wines. Great lobby / socializing area and other amenities such as gift shop, restaurant, games. Good restaurants and shops nearby in Grafton, IL as well. Rooms were nice size and staff very friendly.

« Nice cabin in the park! »

We stayed two nights in the LaSalle cabin. Nice room king size bed with a set of bunk beds. The bed was very comfortable, didn't have kids with so didn't use bunk beds. Room was clean and comfy. Coffee maker. We ate breakfast twice and dinner once. Food was delicious! Stopped in the winery for a tasting and ended up with a bottle of caramel apple. We used the pool, sauna and hot tub. Nice area.

    « Beautiful and Peaceful! »

Pere Marquette is truly beautiful any time of year and this lodge is just gorgeous! We had a wonderful time enjoying the indoor pool, hiking the nearby trails, renting bikes from the lodge and eating in the very nice restaurant!

    « Perfect escape »

Our family needed to wind down for a couple of days, so we chose Pere Marquette, since it is only an hour drive from our home. Perfect setting in woods next to the river. Great room that was comfortable and clean. We stayed in main Lodge next to swimming pool. the staff is friendly and courteous. The children enjoyed the large Connect Four game in the lobby. The food was excellent, especially the Easter Buffet. I recommend the pies.

    « Great Family Place »

We wanted to be unplugged and have family time and that is what we got! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. It may be an older hotel, but don't let that stop you from staying here. It was a great place for family bonding time and to be outdoors!!

« Not My Cup Of Tea »

The staff was nice and the room was clean. I found the food to be mediocre. The vegetables at dinner were cold. Breakfast buffet was just okay. If you are okay with a lot of small children running everywhere, and I do mean everywhere, then this may not be the place for you. Lot's of very loud families who have a lot of conversations in the hallway at 7 AM. The only retreatvwas the lirtkevwiney where you must be 21 to enter. That was a nice little spot with a good selection and great service. I woul most likely not stay again.

    « Springing »

We always enjoy this place! First stay in the cabins: we found them roomier than the lodge. Alll five of us could stay in one using the bunks and fold out couch. Not all cabin rooms have a table for cards etc. no food prep area is provided, though we had a refrigerator (at additional cost). The cabin proved a quieter more private stay. We appreciated still having maid service. We enjoy the shared rec space in the lodge. I've twice stayed during the stripping & waxing of its floor- i will ask ahead to avoid this disruptive process next time. We enjoyed the facilities including pool & hot tub, and dining room. The setting is, of course what keeps us coming back.

« Nice lodge, horrible restaurant »

The lodge and grounds are beautiful. The rooms are clean and front desk customer service is great. The bad news is the quality, prices, and customer service in the restaurant. First of all the menu is very limited, and worse yet the food is all processed and obviously microwaved. Frozen vegetables, powdered mashed potatoes, etc. The food is bland with barely any flavor. To make things worse, their prices are way too high for the poor food quality. Eat somewhere else if you can. And if you do decide to eat there, stay away the deserts. I had their special bananas foster and this item shouldn't even be on the menu. It was simply the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten in a restaurant. It was a soupy mess with a few slices of bananas floating around in it, and tasted horrible. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she gave me attitude like she was personally offended. She needs some serious customer service training skills as she scowled at me and offered nothing, like say maybe an alternative desert or to take the cost off of the bill. I had to ask and she agreed to remove the charge. There are much better dining options in Grafton.

    « Lovely getaway »

Nice lodge; love the history, large fireplace, riverview patio. Room outlet by bed had one plug attached to light switch, so had to switch things around to get Cpap machine to work all night, and no fridge; but love the proximity to Grafton and Alton and the various trails to explore. Superb staff and good food in the restaurant.

« Poor customer service and overpriced »

i went to a conference here and stayed one night. VERY overpriced for the small room. The sheets were stained and the bathroom was not clean. To top it off, the front desk service is terrible. They are not friendly, don't smile and not empathetic-did not even offer to "compensate" for the 'dirty" room. There was no apology. I will NOT stay here ever again!

« Historic Lodge in beautiful setting »

This is a beautifully restored CCC-built lodge in Pere Marquette State Park. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 2nd floor of the lodge with a nice view of the Illinois River. It was in the new addition to the historic lodge, but we would not have known it was new had we not been told. To see it from the outside, it doesn't look any different from the original lodge. The room was very spacious with king bed, large flat screen TV, desk, couch, and small refrigerator. The lodge is set in a forest with rooms in the lodge as well as several cabins set among the trees surrounding it. The beautiful rustic lobby had the high ceiling, huge timbers, hardwood floors, and stone work commonly seen in CCC buildings. A large fireplace anchored one end, and the inviting fire took some of the chill out of the autumn air. At the other end of the large lobby were tables and chairs that, on the night we were there, were occupied by several families playing various games. There was a large wooden Connect Four game and a huge wooden chess game with pieces as large as toddlers! So much fun!

    « Annual trip »

We drive from St Louis every fall to see the leaves change and eat at the Lodge. We always get excellent photos and have a delicious meal. Fried chicken on Sunday. Amaretto cheesecake was outstanding. Not too sweet with great almond flavor. One of these years we'll stay at the Lodge but we're honestly waiting for an upgrade. The rooms look pretty basic and outdated. I noticed a new 'winery' which was basically a wine bar this year.

« Nice time away from the city »

We had a queen sized, cabin room, which was very spacious. We had a nice breakfast the next morning. The office staff were nice. We were able to walk around the big area around the lodge and walk down to the river.

« Iconic, but still good »

Took my sister to lunch here. It was as nice as I remembered as a child. Food was good, and server was very nice; even tried to give us a "to-go" drink. This place has been here for a very long time (my wife told me her parents honeymooned here in 1948). The upkeep must be very difficult, but it still is a very gracious place to dine and stay. Very scenic this time of year, with leaves changing, and the lodge overlooks the Illinois River.

« Terrific fall family getaway »

Beautiful scenery, serene atmosphere, and wonderful service! Went here for a quick weekend getaway with family--hiked, went to the visitor center, lots of swimming and fun family games in the lodge. We had a problem with the heating unit in our room which was quickly remedied by the front desk staff. Great stay!

    « Lack of management »

Arrived at 1:00 pm placed our name on the list, wait time 45". Checked out the dining room saw 5 tables ready and empty. Lots of people standing in the hallway waiting. 20" later still no one at those 5 tables. Hostess said they can't seat people 10" before shift change. That turned into 30" 5 to 9 tables open. Found the real reason why the wait. This Best Western dining room is a union ran house. Our waiter said they could get written up if they did someone else's job and we got there at shift change time. Our waiter was almost afraid to clean up our table so we could have coffee. Not the best experience when looking for lunch. The fried chicken was served family style and was very good, our waiter gave us good service.

    « Relaxing »

Such a great getaway, have been coming here for years. We used to stay in the rooms but have been staying in the cabins! Love it, just wish the cabins had Wi-Fi. Such a relaxing environment. Our favorite time of the year is the fall, when the leaves are changing and the air is crisp.

    « Lovely setting. »

Beautiful state park setting. The cabins are a bit old and dated and no Wi-Fi. But the Lodge is beautiful and the rooms are updated and more spacious. The restaurant at the Lodge is very good and the staff is courteous and friendly.

« Great day in Illinois just relaxing »

Beautiful fall day and really enjoyed the lodge! We were able to play games into the night in the lodge and enjoyed ourselves. Wine tasting was fun and the area was gorgeous on the hiking trails. The restaurant's fried chicken was really good. And plenty of sides.

    « Wedding Weekend »

Such a beautiful unique place in a beautiful setting. We were there for a wedding which was outdoors with the reception inside, it was all so perfect! The rooms are large and the beds so comfortable. It was all I could do to keep from stealing the pillows they were so comfy!

    « Always a good experience »

We have stayed at Pere Marquette Lodge several times and always enjoy the experience. Our midweek fall stay was no exception. Our room in old section of lodge, accessible only by a short flight of stairs, was large and had comfortable furniture, including a sofa and large chair. The king bed was comfortable with lamps on both sides. The window in room opened to a river view. We also had access to the large lodge sitting area and restaurant. No complimentary breakfast, but Keurig coffeemaker in room and reasonably priced breakfast in restaurant. We also enjoyed the indoor pool in a room with large windows. Overall another pleasant stay. Comfortable rooms and great walking trails in the park.

« Needs to be Rustic and Elegant, not just Rustic »

At approximately $170/night, the accommodations need to much more up to date and elegant. A rustic exterior and great hall is wonderful, but the interior room in which we stayed was in poor repair and in some places dirty. Bathroom fixtures were out-dated, furniture was worn and uncomfortable, television outdated with a faulty cable connection that produced a very poor picture. The beauty of the Park and the architecture of the lodge can be appreciated without spending the night.

My husband and I stay here about every other year during the fall. The good: Great friendly staff, fantastic hiking trails with beautiful grounds and bluff/river views. Cabin rooms are secluded and very, very quiet. Good location for quick access to Grafton and a very scenic bike trail. The not-so-good: Lodge food is almost all deep fried and NO flavor. The cabin rooms are extremely outdated and the comfort of the bed was really rough! Overall, I would still recommend this to others!

    « Nice getaway spot »

Four stars because one night was spent in a cabin, other night in a room inside lodge. Cabin is more of a duplex, was moldy, and is detached from main lodge. Benefits of staying in a room were easy access to ice maker, vending machines, jacuzzi, pool, sauna, conference rooms, and restaurant. Parking is close and free. Restaurant isn't very quick, food is average but it is convenient. Jacuzzi, pool, sauna, and fitness were nice and everything was working. Wi fi is good most of time, spotty other times. There are also several hiking trails nearby.

    « Going downhill »

Stayed in the corner cabin. Very dark in the room. Nothing like the pictures that were shown. NO STONE inside the room whatsoever like every picture shows. The place needs a deep cleaning overall. Spiders and spider eggs everywhere. AC return vents had more fur growing on them than a beaver. Carpets had large dark stains. Bathroom was okay but sure could use updating. Clumps of hair around the top of the shower unit. The head end of the bed was lower than the foot end!! Had we paid $89-$99 it would be different. But when you pay $180 per night with tax we expect more and nicer. Food was good. And the area outside was beautiful. Wished there had been a hammock. I'd a rather slept outside. Perhaps staying in the lodge itself might be nicer.

    « Charming and cozy »

Rustic charm oozes out of Pere Marquette. The hand-cut timbers, limestone fireplace, hand-made furniture, and cedar roof all add up to a wonderful lodge. If older buildings with character are your thing, you simply must add Pere Marquette to your list of places to stay. Our particular room (224) had a bathroom door that wouldn't shut all the way. But this didn't bother us as the door is 2" thick solid oak that probably weighs more than most people - it afforded plenty of privacy even if it didn't shut completely. Moving up to 5 stars would require things like the bathroom door being fixed, the wood window screen not being torn, and having at least one K-cup coffee pod that wasn't decaf. For sure, these things are all minor in our eyes and they did not detract from our overall enjoyment. We loved our stay.

    « Reunion Get Together »

After being away for a number of years from the Grafton area, it was a real delight when our class representatives decided to hold our high school reunion (55th) at the Marquette Lodge. The room that we stayed in was spacious and very quiet at night. We were served a buffet dinner and the chicken was exceptionally good. The Great Room was very nice for classmates to sit and discuss "the old days".

« Great place for quiet lunch »

Not your Manhattan five star, but a five star for scenery, service, ambiance and food value. Five of us dined for lunch for $70 plus tip. Brunches are much more crowded but this weekday afternoon was pleasant and peaceful.

« Another Great Stay at Pere Marquette »

You can never go wrong with a quick trip over to Pere Marquette to get away from it all and relax. They had an Octoberfest going on with a German band outside on the patio. That was fun to listen to. The food was great at the restaurant and the pool felt refreshing.

« Loved our stay here! »

We just spent four wonderful nights at the Lodge. Our room was quite large, king size bed, and at the end of the hallway which was very quiet. The pool was amazing and we had it to ourselves! We stayed Monday - Thursday night and since this is "off season" we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The staff were great - there was an issue when we checked in and went to our room it had not been cleaned. Staff took care of it immediately and gave us a voucher for dinner and knocked $25 off the room that night. The grounds are beautiful and I highly recommend taking the scenic drive - stunning! My only recommendation is to be sure to take bug repellent - I did get eaten by mosquitoes (outside, not in our room). We will definitely be back - great place! We also ate in the restaurant one evening for dinner - food was delicious and good service. A plus for us was no cell reception nor internet reception - it was great to "disconnect" for a few days!

« Be prepared for mosquitoes »

Stayed in a cabin and killed over 20 mosquitoes during the night in the room. The floor lamp did not work nor did the remote work completely. The carpet was dirty and needed cleaning. The bathroom was very, very small. The wifi connection in the cabin was so poor our devices would not work. Would suggest staying in the lodge this time of year (Sept-Oct) because of the mosquitoes. Don't think it was a very good value at $109 a night. The restaurant had very good food.

« Lodge is Great for Families »

We rented a cabin and enjoyed 2 nights at the Lodge. You can join two rooms together if you book in advance. The grounds are nice and shady. The pool was indoors. It was clean and the water was perfect. The fried chicken was really good. But they serve the same fried potatoes with everything. The winery is just a room in the lodge but they have a nice variety to try. $2.00 for tasting. The rooms could use a microwave and frig. They do have trouble with Wi-Fi.

« Great Place To Stay »

This resort is very clean, staff nice, and grounds are beautiful. The fried chicken and cold slaw are exceptional and servers do a good job. We stayed in cabin 310 and unless your a skinney person I don't recommend it. The bathroom is very small. We had stayed in their other cabins and they are larger, so this was a surprise. There were some mosquitoes in the bathroom, so you might want to bring some spray. They really sneak in this time of year. Also watch for spiders and their webs. These are wooded areas, and the spiders home. The only problem we had was not being able to use our phone because we didn't have ATT. I thought we would have access to WiFi in the great hall room, but not so. Even with the little imperfections, I gave 5 stars, because we love staying there. I hope this review will help and encourage others to stay too

« Labor Day weekend family fun »

This is my second stay here this year. This time we stayed in a cabin. We rented all three units in one cabin. The employees were very friendly at the front desk and immediately sprayed the mosquitoes that had gotten in the cabins as they were bad this weekend due to all the dampness. We took advantage of hiking, biking the River Rd trail, horseback riding, swimming and hanging out in the lodge. The restaurant food was good. Our lunch on Sunday ended up not so great as we waited for over an hour as the hostess gave our table away even though we had the mobile indicator device--so I recommend circling in regularly with the hostess if it is busy at all as the staff seemed overwhelmed handling the logistics of so many guests at one time. We had kids in our group so it was challenging. Food was good though. There was an outdoor wedding in SAT afternoon while we were there. It is a beautiful venue for a wedding! I want to reiterate how friendly the front desk employees, cleaning service employees and restaurant servers, winery bar were.

    « Relaxing Getaway »

We always enjoy the serenity and peace of staying at Pere Marquette Lodge near Grafton, IL. The on-site restaurant and winery add to the enjoyment and convenience of the stay. You can do as much...hiking, sightseeing, eagle watching, playing the oversized games in the great room...or as little...enjoying a glass of wine and a good book on the veranda or in the great you wish! The rooms are vintage in keeping with the mid-century rustic vibe of the lodge, but are clean and comfortable. We have recently begun to stay in the cabins which are a bit more quiet and convenient to parking and unloading a vehicle. If the wifi reached all rooms, and the rooms were equipped with mini fridges and microwaves, it would be perfect!

« Family Reunion base of operations »

This is a great "out of the way" location but still close enough to other attractions to make it good for a base to explore the area. Depending on your time of year visiting, we took in a Cardinals ball game, went downtown grafton and walked main street shopping and lunching, etc. We arranged a dinner for the family in the lodge's restaurant and had excellent service. The indoor pool came in handy to help wear out the kids in our party. We were able to bring in bagels for a breakfast in the lodge's great room that included both guests and other family that weren't staying. We had plenty of room to visit and no one bothered us at all!

    « Charming!! »

This was just the most charming little lodge!! If you rent a cabin you will feel more secluded, however the restaurant & pool are in the main house. Very good place if you want to unwind. No phone signal at all. I didn't have dinner there, but breakfast was really good. If you're not boating there's not a whole lot to do in Grafton.

    « Anniversary Celebration »

Great cabin. Nice romance package (box of chocolates, champagne, and $50 voucher for dinner at the lodge). Everything was well done. Gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because we had no WiFi service in the cabin. Do not know if it had WiFi or it was broken.

    « Love the Lodge! »

I wished I could have stayed longer but the availability was limited. I love the rustic look and the state park area. We took the ferry across to Missouri. If we lived closer I would like to take advantage of their weekend events like Mystery dinners and seasonal activities. They say this place is haunted but nothing would scare me away...will be back!

    « A Wonderful Getaway! »

I took my four grandchildren, ages:11, 9, 4 and 3 for two days and 3 nights to Peres Marquette Lodge. We stayed in one of the cabins. We stayed August 7 - 10, and the weather was gorgeous! The cabin was very clean and smelled fresh not musty. We arrived on Sunday during the Peach Festival and the lodge had many activities for the kids. Afterwards we went straight to the pool and hot tub area which was clean and had plenty of available towels. The kids played for several hours there, then road bikes around the complex before going to bed. At Pere Marquette stables, we enjoyed trail rides for the oldest two and myself, and pony rides for the younger two. We hiked, went to Raging River and spent time at the visitors center learning about the area. Most meals were at the Lodge Restaurant which has excellent food and service. The only negative during the whole vacation was the mosquitos, so take repellant. It is a great value and close to home (St. Louis). Will visit again soon!

« Loved the Lodge for a Group »

Pere Marquette Lodge was a great place to hold a family reunion. Everything was excellent except there were mosquitos in the cabin rooms; in retrospect, we should have notified the front desk to have that dealt with. Reservations are needed to eat meals at the restaurant.

    « A very favorite place!! »

Room was very nice, and clean. It had safety features for older guests like muself (85). Very convenient to the restaurant, pool and everything. Food at the restaurant was the best, and priced reasonably. Everyone that I dealt with was courteous, friendly and helpful. I have been there 2 years in a row, and plan to return next year. There are a lot of interesting places to see in that area.

« Nice place to relax »

For the price you can not beat this place. It had a nice cabin, great clean pool, good food, and most important peace. For the price, it is well worth it for family or couples. It also has riding stables, and Grafton has great places to shop.
