"Wonderful peaceful environment"
Christine F, 14 Mars 2024

This was just a quick overnight stop on the way to the tunnel. First impressions were very poor and after 8 hours driving I was not in the mood for this. We entered the hotel complex that appears to be the converted outbuildings of the chateau. Once in the car park there is no obvious reception. We drove round the complex about 4 times vainly looking for the reception ( it is in fact outside on the road but anyone arriving here will have come into the courtyard by car ). Eventually we saw a door marked Sortie which I decided to investigate and it was in fact the reception. Guess that! Reception closed, but a paper on the door said to phone. First number doesn't actually exist, second worked and it turns out you need to go to the reception of the chateau hotel next door (privately owned). Off we go. The reception agreed with me that the system was mad and dealt well with my anger at all this messing about. Why wasn't this in in my booking confirmation mail? Finally in the room - huge comfortable suite with best lit bathroom I have seen in an hotel in ages. Easy for once to do my makeup. Difficult to get out of the bath/shower without slipping and nothing to get hold of. Unfortunately there is a pervasive unpleasant smell in the room which even with a good airing didn't go away. It disturbed me in the night. Comfortable bed. Breakfast in the chateau was excellent. Reception staff there very pleasant. There were 3 on site restaurants to choose from. We ate in La Distillerie and had an excellent dinner in a nice environment, served by friendly, efficient staff. As for the complaints on here from some customers about the noise of ducks, chickens etc from the farmyard next door!! Love it.

"Great place to stay within a couple of hours from Calais"
409MichelleH409, 23 Septembre 2023

Easy to find in a small village on the outskirts of Bethune. We stayed here on our 1st and last nights our a recent trip. There is plenty of free car parking within the immaculate grounds. It s worth taking the time to have a little wander in the gardens. The rooms are very large, comfortable and well appointed. There are 3 restaurants to choose from on site.

"A GOOD LOCATION"
AdrianB960, 10 Juin 2023

This was a pleasant experience we have used the hotel on few occasions and enjoyed each stage. Good settings plenty of parking and breakfast has been excellent. 90MINS OR SO from calais. restaurants are very convenient on site.

"Excellent accomodation within a spectacular setting"
beatriz h, 12 Avril 2023

Our apartment was perfect for our family of 4. Plenty of room for us, our teen daughters and our pet dog! The gardens are beautifully maintained, food in the restaurants was delicious and the Lounge bar within the main house was grand and inviting. All in all a perfect stay and we will always use this hotel as a stop over, when making our way to other parts of France.

"Great hotel within an hour of Calais"
409MichelleH409, 01 Décembre 2022

We stayed here for our first night on a recent road trip. The hotel is easy to find with ample free parking. The rooms are wonderful, very comfortable, quiet and well appointed. The staff are excellent and very friendly. There are up to 3 restaurants within the grounds although only 2 were open when we visited. The grounds are very pretty and we enjoyed a short stroll before we left the following morning.

"Excellent"
Pavone, 09 Novembre 2022

We have stayed here many times, it has to be one of our favourite hotels. Beautiful comfortable rooms. Everything is of the best quality and the staff are excellent. It is well located for a first or last night when crossing the channel, feels so calm and the food at the on-site restaurants is excellent and very convenient. A great beginning or end to time on the continent.

"Awful hotel, only stay here if you don't want to sleep"
dubaiman, 17 Septembre 2022

Terrible, not sure if it's a service station or a Hotel, but someone should tell the management, they are charging people for rooms! the front car park adjoins the rooms, and they allow coaches to wash down with steam cleaners and compressor's in the car park, this was still going on after 10 pm on Saturday night, and the manager shrugs his shoulders and could not care less, because they earn more from this, then letting the rooms!, this is no way to run a hotel, it's diabolical I have stayed in some hotels in my time, but never have I come across such a thing as this, it's quite unbelievable. 10.30 still going, ignorance and unprofessional to say the least!

"Disappointing"
Robert P, 30 Avril 2022

I have stayed here many times, and it has always been good. The last time, I ate at La Distillerie, and had a poor meal. I mentioned this to the waitress, and, on paying my bill, to the receptionist. On both occasions, my comments were met with a shrug. I will stay at the hotel again, but will not eat at La Distillerie

"A strange place."
johnhI3207QZ, 13 Mars 2022

No signage at all over the large site. Last time we stayed here, it took 10 mins to find reception. This time, having learned, we went to reception but it was closed - with a notice to check in at the château, but no directions to the château! ..and internet didn't work anywhere. Pity, as location is convenient.

"Perfect stay - beautiful place"
Mledsom, 15 Octobre 2021

Like so many reviews we wanted to arrive in France, drive for an hour and have a sleep on our way further south. Our first thought was to book something close to the motorway like a motel BUT fortunately we discovered this little beauty! Such an amazing find, room was stunning, service at 1am outstanding and the breakfast was beautiful x thank you so much

"Beautiful"
Joanna H, 25 Septembre 2020

We found this hotel by pure chance, really looking only for a bed for the night, within 1 hour of Calais and close to the motorway. We arrived very late but the hotel has 24 hour reception and the two staff who met us, despite the hour, couldn't have been friendlier. Our room was so spacious and clean, much welcomed mini bar after a long drive, so many towels, beautiful bathroom, plenty of free parking, couldn't have been more impressed... until the next morning when saw where we were. This is no 'motorway stay over' It's an absolutely beautiful chateau in the countryside, with stunning character and charm. Breakfast worth every penny, full continental with an option to order eggs as you like them. We loved this hotel so much we booked again on our return journey and this time made sure we arrived in time to enjoy more of it. We ate at The Brasserie, really lovely meal and enjoyed another breakfast. Both times we booked by phone and reception couldn't have been more helpful. We will return and we will be telling people about these hotels. What a lovely lovely place to start and end our holiday in France... thank you so much xx

car0lsalm0n, 03 Février 2020

The staff were very hospitable, excellent service Room was spacious and cleaned daily, fresh towels replaced everday Very quiet, require a car to get around Can't fault this hotel at all, will be staying there on my next trip in February

"Excellent hotel"
David Y, 20 Août 2019

Less than an hour from Calais, this is the best hotel I have stayed in for a long time. A very nice rural location with some attractive buildings and grounds to wander around. Large, clean and comfortable room. Modern bathroom with an excellent shower. Effective air conditioning. Free parking. Breakfast is quite limited (no hot options) but it was adequate. Hotel staff and friendly and helpful. I will definitely stay here again when I need a hotel close to Calais.

"Always good"
salmoneater, 14 Août 2019

We have stayed here several times over the past 10 years - very convenient for Calais. We now always choose a 'prestige' room, which are in the row of 'cottages' converted from the old distillery building, with parking outside - they are spacious and cool (we are always there in summer) with large brick vaulted ceilings. Unfortunately they have been redecorated in recent years and in some cases the wallpaper is horrendous (e.g the brightly coloured rabbits). They should have kept to classic simplicity in keeping with the architecture.

"Beautiful chateau-like hotel in gorgeous grounds"
Lazychris1954, 22 Juillet 2019

I have stayed here several times on the way back to Calais which is only 50 mins away. The older parts of the hotel are absolutely charming with spacious and characterful rooms (ask for a room in the outside older part). The extensive grounds are stunning and the other hotel on the site is even more beautiful. A proper chateau. We've stayed there and that too was amazing. The last time we were there we ate in the Distillerie restaurant which is much better than the Vasco, although the latter has an outside seating area. Staff are charming and attentive and the whole place asa relaxed atmosphere. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"OK stay"
Trek04696402543, 05 Juillet 2019

Hotel room was quirky but no air conditioning. Had to run around in the shower to get wet. No bar facilities - had to go to La Chartreuse for drinks. Have stayed at La Chartreuse before and prefer it. The service is more personal. The kitchen gardens are a must.

"Surprise, surprise"
Robert P, 26 Juin 2019

I was determined not to like this hotel, I expected us to be processed through the system and swamped by corporate types. I was not looking forward to this at all. Instead, we had a warm reception, and although I booked a room, we had a suite. Dinner was fun, - not 'great', but good food and a lively, friendly atmosphere in the restaurant, and all at a very reasonable price. I am looking forward to my next visit. The hotel is worth a visit, if only for the gardens. A lovely place

"Wonderful surprise "
diamondcittage, 12 Mai 2019

My partner and I stayed here yesterday for one night, on our way down to visit memorial sites of WW1, on the Somme. Not only it is a stunning site of the old distillery but, but the restaurants are stunning in their own way, with wonderful vaulted ceilings, and in our visit a huge roaring log fire. As for the evening meal there. Never in my whole life ( 75 years in total) have I enjoyed such a incredible meal. It is not cheap, but also not expensive. Our bill, for 3 courses each, plus drinks came to 100 euros. Our room on the ground floor was excellent, as was the service we received, from the restaurant staff, to the reception staff also. Another thing to its advantage is that it's very close, as previously written, to the main roads.

"Good in parts"
Chau98, 22 Novembre 2018

We stopped here for an overnight stay on our way home from Burgundy. The location is very good, not far from the motorway exit and the brick buildings themselves are remarkable. We paid extra for a prestige room - the room was very spacious, with a superb brick vaulted ceiling. Everything in the room was great, except given so much space why couldn't there be two comfortable chairs to sit on? There are two hotels on the site, the other being the more expensive chateau, which also houses one of the three restaurants with elaborate gourmet menus. We chose the Distillerie rather than the Vasco out of the other two, but from the outside and the menus we couldn't really see much difference. There was a menu de jour, but this was just soup and rabbit, so effectively it was a relatively expensive a la carte. It had mainly game dishes, quite appropriate for the season and we both ordered pheasant. This was significantly undercooked, to the point of being effectively raw near the bone. The waitress was certainly surprised by it, but came back from the chef saying it would be too dry if cooked more and that we should have requested how we wanted it cooked - we hadn't been asked when we ordered (although she seemed somewhat unconvinced herself and noted that the chef was new - and since we were not the only couple to complain about the food my guess is he won't last long). The dessert was OK, but unmemorable but luckily we had ordered a very nice bottle of wine! Breakfast the following morning was OK - nothing special. Overall the location is very convenient, and close to Calais (as long as the Autoroute isn't blocked by Gilets Jaunes protesters), the room was good, and I can put up with the prices of the food, so we'll probably use it again - but a couple of nice chairs and a new chef would make it near perfect!

"Picturesque and Convenient"
GIDraco, 16 Septembre 2018

My father and I were here as a pit stop when visiting our Uncle's grave in a nearby town. The entire area is so very quaint and idyllic - and the hotel was a polished little diamond in amongst it. Staff were excellent, rooms spacious and cleanliness was spot on. Reasonable deal we got too - recommend for anyone.

"Extremely helpful staff in a quiet hotel"
CVogelberg, 25 Août 2018

Very helpful staff in a nice hotel, just 5 min from the motorway but in a quiet village.Everything was clean and we had an extremly comfy bed.The hotel director was very kind not to charge our room when we could not come on our return as a family.member was admitted to hospital. We found this exceptionel.Merci beaucoup.

"Convenient location "
721tonyb, 05 Août 2018

We stayed here on our travels through France. The hotel was only a few minutes from the motorway. We stayed in a prestige room which was large and comfortable with a bath and separate shower. The only negative was the lack of air-con as the room was very hot although we were given a fan to cool us down. Good choice of restaurants for all budgets. Would stay again.

"Overnight stay"
Tmh63, 30 Juillet 2018

Very easy to find from Calais. Staff friendly and polite Room large and clean, excellent bathroom Bar drinks quite expensive but excellent dinner and the wine was a good price Breakfast reasonable WiFi ok for browsing

"Remembrance visit"
fordyx4, 19 Juillet 2018

Just spent a lovely 2 night stay at the La Metairie while visiting there area to place flowers on a war grave at Merville. The hotel is set in wonderful picturesque grounds with a good choice of restaurants within its own walled gardens. The staff were very helpful (and even endured my poor French with a happy smile)the rooms were comfortable, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Overall we had a wonderful stay and I would recommend this hotel. One thing to mention if you fancy a 20min walk there is a large shopping complex just over the hill , with a cinema retail outlets.

"New Year Break"
Alan P, 09 Janvier 2018

I was looking for a short break over New Year and struggled to find a suitable flight from Newcastle at this time of the year. I drove down to Dover and hopped on the ferry. The hotel is situated about an hour from Calais and is easy to find just off the motorway. My room was in the main building and was spotless - flat screen TV, mini bar, shower -all excellent. My only grumble is that the pillows are constructed out of bungee cords - your head rebounds off the pillows and I struggled to sleep. I can cope with hollow fibre and would prefer feather pillows but the pillows provided are a pain in my opinion. The breakfast was continental style, breads, jams, fruit juice, cereals, fresh fruit and a small selection of cooked meats & cheeses. It was adequate and in my opinion slightly overpriced at 14 euros.

"Excellent hotel and restaurant"
palane52, 01 Décembre 2017

Never stayed here before but thoroughly recommend. The hotel is situated in grounds which include the hotel la chartreuse, restaurants le vasco, la distillerie, le Robert II. We ate in la distillerie which was perfect. I had mixed fish with a sauce. The fish was beautifully cooked and fresh tasting. My husband had Escalope which was chicken with ham and cheese with a sauce served with fries. Excellent. The service was top class. Very popular on Friday so luckily we reserved. The room was of a high standard with every amenity including coffee making facilities, hair dryer, mini bar, safe, plenty of wardrobe/cupboard space, soap, flannels, t.v, free wifi, comfy pillows and bed, and a desk. Sizeable room. Breakfast room if required. Would recommend this hotel about 50 miles from Calais.

"on our way back to the UK"
Pavone, 23 Novembre 2017

Last stop on our long drive home from Italy we stayed here on a November Sunday night. We were upgraded to a premium room and breakfast was included in the rate so we were happy with the value. Our room was large and beautiful, it would have benefited from somewhere to sit since there didn't seem to be any hotel lounge and the bar/restaurant opposite didn't open until 7pm. Otherwise it was a delight, good bathroom with separate toilet, beverages tray and minibar, good quality linen on a comfy bed. Breakfast next morning was fine, no complaints. I imagine the hotel experience is very different in summer, it was hardly occupied when we stayed but we were very happy with what we got and didn't mind the quiet at all. Staff were friendly and helpful.

"Great Place to start a holiday"
Peter B, 15 Septembre 2017

Location is key they say and this hotel being just over an hour into France from the tunnel is a great place to start. The car park is large the rooms are clean and well appointed. The setting is also very nice being in the grounds of the much more expensive hotel next door. With a choice of 3 places to eat within a minutes walk it is a great place to stay.

"Homeward Straight"
Graham P, 08 Septembre 2017

It's the second time we've stopped here; 50 miles from Calais and just off the autoroute, it's ideal for a stopover before returning to England. Set in beautiful extensive grounds, ideal for stretching the legs after a long drive. Rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and with a large comfortable bed. Breakfast was good and set us up for the journey home. There are three excellent restaurants on site which accommodate all tastes and pockets. A good place to unwind before the journey home. Will definitely use again next time we travel through France.

"Loving Housekeepers"
Ahleekeh H, 29 Août 2017

My family is here staying at BW in Metairie following my son's Bone Marrow Transplant to save his life. We arrived about a month ago and everyday these ladies have ensured to help keep his environment healthy. We give special acknowledgment to Brandy, everyday you come you leave us with a note and memories of those with heart. Thank you for making my son's stay enjoyable and full of care. It really means a lot to our family during a strenuous time. This is what she left yesterday with her usual note while we were out for daily clinic visits. It put a smile on my son's face when we returned and a note expressing concern and well wishes for his health. Kudos Best Western crew; I pray everyone gets a special memory, as we have, during their stay!

""Naturel" wake up calls"
Clemelv, 11 Novembre 2016

The roosters from the near by farm already start at 4 am. So the early risers do not need to set the alarm clock. The hotel provides ear plugs for the rooms on one side of the building. I like nature but this is not ideal!

"Good place for a stopover "
Pete W, 23 Septembre 2016

Our last night en route from Cadaques to Calais. Large grounds, including a beautiful formal garden, which were perfect for a walk and a game of football after a day in the car. The room was large, decor was classic rather than modern... The on-site restaurants was excellent. We opted for the express breakfast in the morning which was more than enough for our needs.

"driven from Provence on way to GB"
Ruth W, 23 Septembre 2016

We had stayed here before on the way to or from Provence. We had been fortunate before to stay at the Chateau but this time we were placed in the Great Western Hotel. Easy to find, 5 min from autoroute. Pleasant staff. Good double room , clean , Lovely restaurants-may need booking at peak times. 1hour to channel Tunnel. Breakfast €14

"Lovely Hotel, fabulous gardens, great restaurants on complex"
amandaw1976, 10 Septembre 2016

Arrived at this hotel as the last stop in France after visiting the South of France. Just under an hour south of Calais, just off the A26, good stop off after crossing the channel to heading back to the UK. Great hotel, rooms are converted barns, curved ceilings, tiled floors and modern decor. Comfy beds with white linen, very clean. Beautiful walled garden with fruit and veg growing and a large pond provides a lovely walk for guests. Great restaurants with seating indoor and outdoor. Would highly recommend and we will definitely return.

"Brilliant stopover"
Ted26071943, 14 Juillet 2016

Great place to stop that really needs more time to do it justice. Standard rooms are comfortable and quiet giving a good nights sleep. The gardens are outstanding and worth a visit for themselves. Three excellent restaurants give a super choice of meals.

"Great location, excellent value for money"
Phil M, 08 Juillet 2016

Part of a restaurant/hotel complex in the grounds of a restored monastery, this is the converted stable block of the luxurious chateau next door. Rooms are spacious and well appointed if a little Spartan, staff excellent. Three great restaurants at all price points on site, lovely gardens, and overall good value for money. An ideal location either for a stopover off the nearby but inaudible A26 or as a base for exploring WWI battlefields

"Great stopover hotel"
pwmk68, 01 Juin 2016

This is a great stopover hotel, easy to find , maybe 5 mins off motorway. Good parking and 3 restaurants on site with nice gardens to walk around. We had a dog with us and it was no troble at all. There is also a leading hotels hotel on the same site if you want a higher standard, but as a stopover this really is perfect Would I return ? yes it ticks all the boxes

"Wonderful Meals, super staff and good location"
Mark H, 18 Mai 2016

We used the hotel as our base for travelling around the area. A super hotel with interesting and lovely old rooms. All mod cons, but no air conditioning, so could be warm!! We hit on a heatwave! Had the windows open and experienced the dawn chorus and the cockerels crowing, loved it! The hotel has a second upmarket hotel next door and shares three restaurants on site. We eat in two of of the three restaurants, all superb and eat three times. Excellent food, service and location. We would visit again and recommend.

"Helpful Staff"
Andy W, 12 Avril 2016

We booked online via the best Western site and very soon received a confirmation email so good communication. When we arrived to book in I was a little concerned at the access as my partner is disabled and can't walk far so went ahead. My school French and the receptionists limited English we coped and we were allocated a 1st floor room. However when I asked where the lift was I was told there wasn't one. Another slightly difficult conversation followed whilst I explained that it wasn't possible without a lift to get up to the room, the lady kindly swapped us with another couple who hadn't booked in yet. The room itself was good size and comfortable. A nice bathroom which was very clean as well. The Hotel doesn't have a restaurant in the building, another minor irritation that isn't clear on the website, but the receptionist offered 3 choices which are in the confines of the old monastery and we chose Distillery, which I highly recommend. Breakfast is served in a room opposite reception and was good. plentiful food as well and plenty of freshly made hot coffee. A different lady on checkout dealt swiftly and courteously and when we were ready to leave kindly suggested we might like to use the side door in the breakfast room as it was easier to get into the car park and come out right by the car. We'd stay here again but ring a booking though to save any problems.

"Everything we wanted and so friendly"
JaneStourbridgeUK, 03 Avril 2016

We booked this hotel on the recommendation of a fellow French home owner we meet on our dog walks in the UK. We booked a Charming room in the annex as we have a young tall rescue dog and loved more or less everything. The room was spacious and the rustic look was clean and appealing. As we had booked the dog to stay they had provided a blanket for her to sleep on. The grounds were great for walking the dog and later in the year [when I am sure we will be back] they will be stunning as it is obvious someone spends a lot of time and effort in this area. We explained our dog was a young recently acquired rescue but everyone made her welcome in the hotel and the restaurant. This place is a bit pricey compared to the basic chain hotels available in France but worth the money for us. The restaurants were busy on a Saturday night and pretty much everyone was French - the quality of the food brings them in we think. Our Room [301] was spacious and I loved the bathroom. The only slight complaint from us was it was very warm but better than cold on April 2nd. We are already planning to use this hotel again

"Cockerills drove me crazy"
simoncK1290GS, 29 Janvier 2016

Stayed here for one night on a business trip. The menagerie next door contains a variety of cockerills and hens. These creatures starting sqwuaking loudly at midnight and did the same every half an hour until check-out time. Additionally the roof over the conservatory style bathroom was leaking and dripping rainwater onto the bathroom floor. Avoid room 401 and all rooms to the left as you face the hotel.

"A good modern hotel that we shall stay at again."
James A, 22 Janvier 2016

I've read other reviews of this hotel on TripAdvisor - and I would agree that La Metairie is a good, modern hotel. It was just right for our need; breaking up the drive back from the Alps to England. We shall be returning to La Metairie soon, as part of a large family booking. We shall stay for a couple of nights while visiting the area where our great uncle flew during the first world war, and see his grave at Douai. I shouldn't think we'll be the first British people to use La Metairie in such a way!

"Lovely Room, Great Value"
Bluesprout61, 10 Décembre 2015

We have stayed in La Chartreuse du Val Saint Esprit a few times and have enjoyed the location, grounds and choice of 3 restaurants. On this occasion we decided to try the Best Western, which shares those facilities with La Chartreuse. We booked a Charme room, which was lovely - tiled floors, vaulted ceilings, separate large bath and shower and its own front door into the garden/courtyard. It was excellent value - we paid around £85 in advance for bed & breakfast. Breakfast was a little chaotic. It was very busy at 8am, presumably because a lot of business people were staying, and it was difficult to find a table for two. There was a large empty bowl which had contained fruit salad. When I asked for it to be refilled I was told it was finished. I went to reception to complain and the lady working in the kitchen was immediately sent to one of the other kitchens to refill it. There is no bar in the hotel, so if you want a drink you have to use one of the bars in the restaurants.

"Une tres bonne sejour"
Opioman, 06 Octobre 2015

An excellent place to stay: overnight prior to catching the ferry/ Eurotunnel to England or to explore the surrounding region, especially the Christmas market at Arras. Keen gardeners will enjoy walking around the extensive kitchen garden and the nearby village is also within easy walking distance. We have eaten in two out of the three restaurants on site and enjoyed our meals immensely.

"An unexpected, but pleasant surprise"
Thomas A, 16 Août 2015

This is a comparatively new hotel. What we didn't know when we booked it was that it is in the ownership of La Chatreuse du Val St Esprit which we have stayed at several times before over the years. La Metairie is built to blend in with La Chatreuse and shares the same well kept grounds. It has a large annexe and a large conference suite, but because it was summer the hotel was very quiet and the conference facilities were not being used. The hotel is only an hour away from Calais. The bedroom and en suite bathroom were very functional and we had all that was required for an overnight stop. The hotel and annexe are vry quiet and there is very adequate parking.

"Very Disappointed"
ChrisGranthamEngland, 17 Juillet 2015

Had 2 nights at this hotel on our way back from Germany.First impression was very good, immaculate surroundings and plenty of car parking. Our room was in one of the vaulted courtyard rooms, these are very rustic with tiled floors and traditional french old furniture,no carpets here.3 restaurants on site which you have to read the menus on the wall for each one, good job it was dry.Copies of the menus need to be put in the rooms and an English version should be available.Because of this we dined out in the local town. The hairdryer in the bathroom was useless having only a 2foot lead, so was impossible to dry all of your hair. The wife struggled to get in and out of the bath but the shower worked OK.Nobody told us what was available that we could have had cooked for breakfast and was not worth the €13.The hotel lacked any atmosphere and was a great disappointment,I cannot therefore recommend this hotel.

"A very pleasant surprise"
Ratho099, 21 Juin 2015

We booked the hotel as a convenient means to resting overnight prior to an early start the next day. We have used Best Western in the past and knew the good standard of what we should expect. The hotel is located at 1 Rue de Fouquières, 62199 Gosnay, France. This is some 1 hour drive from the Eurotunnel at Calais. It is located about 7 minutes off the E15 and is very easy to find via the sat nav. On arrival, we were impressed by the overall layout and look of the hotel and its surroundings. Those members of staff that we encountered were all extremely polite, knowledgeable and helpful. We ate in the hotel restaurant and found the menu to be good, the food to be excellent and the general ambience to be restful and pleasing. Breakfast was more than adequate. There is a jewel to this hotel. It can be found to its rear and is a wonderful garden covering approximately 10000 square yards. It is used to supply the Hotel's restaurant with vegetables. I would encourage any guest to take time out to walk round the garden and enjoy its wonderful layout and location. All in all, this was an excellent choice for a stay. Would we use it again? Without question we would.

"Amazing, affordable find near the A26"
l_wilson, 08 Juin 2015

I cannot take the credit for booking this one, but I sure can recommend it. I hadn't given this place to much of a thought when a friend of mine had chosen it for a stop over on route to our final destination - Centre Parcs, Les Trois Forets. OK so it's not to far over the channel, but it definitely warrants a stop - especially if you're trekking a long way (either leg of the journey). I'd booked a standard or 'quiet room' (as it was invoiced). It affords a little more comfort in a provencal style, away from the main building. Quiet spacious rooms, comfy beds and pillows made for a good nights sleep. Now for the real attraction the grounds and the adjoining chateau. We were fortunate to of had lovely weather late May and were able to take in the vast gardens, the produce of which supply the onsite restaurants. Well worth an hour if you have time. The Vasco restaurant is most definitely worth a visit. Not an overwhelming choice, but what there was is of typical french quality - high. As a group there were no complaints about the belly port, fillet beef, or lamb shank tagine. Not forgetting the snails.... mmmmm. We liked it so much we stayed on our return a week later. In summary a great little find, not to far from the A26. Rooms (at least mine) were very good for the price and food in the attached restaurant was really rather good. Breakfasts were good, if only a little light on choices - typical continental selection. Would recommend, and will hopefully return on next road trip.

"Comfortable"

There are two hotels on this site, Le Metairie and La Chartreuse, and three restaurants, all of excellent quality and different price ranges. Le Metairie was very quiet, the rooms were comfortable and breakfast was good. The restaurant we chose was good and all the staff were helpful.

"A handy stop"

Barely an hour away from Calais this hotel, just off the motorway provides the perfect place for an overnight stop. With beautiful gardens to walk around, three restaurants and beautiful countryside its very much a hotel that starts your journey through France on the right note

"A Great Find!"

We've used this hotel before when travelling to the south west of France. It's a great stopover after or before the tunnel - less than an hour to Calais. Lovely restaurants (the gourmet is a bit out of our league pricewise!) but the food and service are very good. What one would expect in France! The rooms are very good. Stay in the converted distillery warehouse - a bit more expensive but beautiful vaulted ceilings, under floor heating, big bathroom. Having said that, the rooms in the main building are very good - just be aware that there are no curtains ... use the electric blinds instead!
