Grand Hotel Savoia reception staff were welcoming and helpful, including printing out our train tickets. Our Executive Double room was spacious and well set up with a small balcony and a modern bathroom. The breakfast buffet had a wide range of excellent food. I am not sure how safe the station area is at night, so we caught buses back to the hotel after dinner.

"Unexpected stay!"

5
cloudnr9, The Netherlands 14/05/2022

We originally booked the hotel next door, Continental, but upon arrival this was closed! A sign at the door said we had to check-in at the hotel on the left (same owner), the Savoia… usually this means unexpected trouble! However, we were pleasantly surprised that this was a 5 star hotel, and we got an upgrade to one of their executive spacious rooms, including a big bath in the actual room. Throughout our stay we enjoyed breakfast and its service from all staff members. Their Spa facilities, to be booked per hour, were very relaxing. The overal vibe of this clean and accommodating hotel is indeed (retro old-fashioned) Grand. So, this made our trip to Genova unexpectedly surprising!

"Upgraded Room"

963KatieW, Bel Air, Maryland 02/05/2022

We booked here for one night on our honeymoon so that we weren't on a train for 8+ hours going from one destination to another. The hotel was great and upgraded us from next door at the Hotel Continental to a room with a view in their hotel! It definitely had an antique feel to it, but in a good way - plus the room was fairly spacious by European standards. The tub in the bathroom was HUGE and would have been great for relaxing if we would have time. The hotel is conveniently located near the train station and is also a short walk to Old Town and the Wharf area, so perfect for those looking to explore when coming in by train.

"Gorgeous, well priced hotel bear the wharf."

Beautifully appointed hotel in the Grand Epoque style . The staff is outstandingly friendly, polite, and willing to please. The rooms as well as the public spaces are clean and full of old world charm in fantastic shape. The train station is across the piazza.

"Fascinating, bizarre, lovely hotel"

Impressive hotel, a little tired in a classic "turn of the century railway hotel" way. The building itself is beautiful inside and out, just a bit worn here and there, but actually that in itself brings a quite a welcoming, stately feel to it. We really enjoyed the stay here, super close to the train station, easy walk into the Old Town. It is quite a bizarre hotel. Panoramic "bath tubs" (i.e. hot tubs) on the roof terrace, a Pirate playground for kids on the third floor, a Samurai walkthrough on the first floor. A gorgeous old bar on the ground floor where the charming bar staff bring you drinks on a trolley with nibbles. Rooms were fine, again slightly faded Italian luxury, but stylish and a million miles from the normal corporate chain type of rooms. So 4 stars, not quite 5 star luxury, but would definitely stay there again if in town.

"We got upgraded to Grand Savoia and it was great"

Mei I, London, United Kingdom 22/04/2022

we initially booked the hotel next door the continental and they upgraded us to hotel grand savoia. we had a triple room, and it was beautiful, large, spacious, loved their huge in-room bath tub and separate shower room, not lacking in small details, loved their little bath salts. Their wi-fi worked everywhere and it had strong signal. went up to their 7th floor and the view was amazing for the whole town of genova, not to mention there are 2 hot tubs with that marvellous view. the breakfast was amazing their cherry pie was to die for, and the choices were plentiful and they had gluten free and vegan options, nothing was lacking and the attention to detail was great, loved the silverware. all staff were very nice (for a change of the poor italian hospitality) will definitely be back one day.

"Beautiful but not 5* service"

I am settling on a 3 star review mainly due to the refund I received otherwise I would have rated this 2 stars. I booked the Presidential Suite to celebrate a 65th birthday. The room itself was beautiful with amazing sunset views with electric room darkening blinds, three large smart TV's, separate living area and 2 full bathrooms. The location is convenient and steps from one of the main train stations. The bad: I have booked suites before and was surprised there was no welcome gift or cocktail. My next surprise was to find a very used coffee station complete with the crumbs from someone's breakfast. The shower was clogged and didn't drain. Next was the TV in the bedroom didn't work. Then to find the smart TV's were all blocked from using the network aspect so no ability to login to Netflix. Your only option was YouTube if you had a TV account. No English channels except for BBC and CNN. The ability to change the language and subtitles were also blocked but they did unblock for me so I could change that feature. The coffee station is in the dining room while the tea station is in the bedroom. I tried to relocate the tea kettle but it required pulling out the furniture. I requested an extra tea kettle and I was told I had one, after explaining the situation three times, I pulled out the furniture, unplugged the kettle and relocated it myself. They did finally bring me a kettle but after two mornings of inconvenience, I was forced to resolve on my own. Lastly and what completely ruined the stay was the daily deactivation of my room key which is used to operate the lights. It is not just a card insert, it has a chip and the chip must be active for the card to engage the lights. Each evening usually after 9:00 pm, the card deactivated. Understood the first time, completely unacceptable the additional evenings. When I asked what the problem was, they said there was an issue with the controller but at no time did they take any proactive steps to to minimize my inconvenience. This meant each evening, I was suddenly in the dark and had to wait for resolution. The staff did try to resolve all of my issues but unfortunately, the service level was not reflective of a 5 star hotel and my special surprise was ruined for this 65th birthday celebration. I did stay in close communication with the hotel staff about the continuing issues that kept occurring. I was surprised I never heard from the hotel manager and on the day before my departure, I did ask to speak to the manager and we communicated via email for about a week until an acceptable resolution was agreed upon. I do recommend this hotel as I'm sure the standard rooms are wonderful but I would not recommend the presidential suite for a special occasion, sadly the service levels are just not there.

"Five star hotel, four star review!"

mb74_england, London, United Kingdom 05/04/2022

This is an impressive, if somewhat frayed at the edges hotel built in the 1890s. Grand indeed! Located only a few minutes walk from the station, and until the 1950s having its own private underground walkway directly to the platform. My deluxe room was spacious and overlooked the piazza. My room rate included entry to the spa. Staff were friendly and helpful although the breakfast was just satisfactory. Unfortunately, the hotel restaurant was closed and they were using a restaurant located not too far away. I enjoyed a couple of cocktails in the lounge although the pianist did bring on a migraine due to his over enthusiastic playing! Overall, an impressive hotel with only few niggles!

"Great hotel"

henrieta, Zurich, Switzerland 24/03/2022

Beautiful hotel if you like old style. We liked everything about this hotel. We first had one big room with two double beds, but this was too small for 2 adults and two 12 years old children. We therefore moved to two (almost) interconnecting rooms. Those rooms were at the back of the hotel which had no view, but they were very quiet. The location of the hotel is fantastic. We arrived by train and almost walked into the hotel from the train. We took a fast train from that train station to Cinque Terre and we bought travel cards to use public transport in Genova - several busses stop right outside of the hotel. I will definitely book the same hotel next time I am in Genova.

"Exceptional stay"

We had booked into the sister hotel next door but due to renovation works we were given a room in the Grand Hotel Savoia next door. We had an excellent stay here and will return and be happy to pay extra for the standard of room and experience. The hotel is still maintaining the old decor in the Belle Epoque style and us absolutely stunning. My mother stayed here during the 40's and 50's and was amazed when I showed her the pictures. A thoroughly fabulous experience.

"Week-end stay"

User 07/02/2022

The hotel wasn't the one we booked, but just next door. The original one was closed. Reception was perfect, the room large with murals in the style of the era of the hotel yet modern, and parquet floors. Large bathroom, with bidet, and a large walk-in shower. Plenty of towels, and toiletries. A double bed comprised of two beds, very comfortable allowing for an excellent night's sleep. The breakfast buffet was a bit sparse when we arrived but the staff were on hand to assist and bring us what we wanted. All in all a lovely hotel and highly recommend.

"Good Place where to stay"

4
User 26/01/2022

May be be a little price inflated, but in Italy they can't help it being more expensive than any other country in terms of hotels so... The hotel is good quality throughout, rooms a little on the smallish side but the location is great, smack in the middle of the port where all the action is.

"Perfect choice when in Genoa"

5
qwertrew, Menton, France 07/12/2021

There are lots of hotel choices in Genoa, but we decided to stay in Grand Hotel Savoia as the hotel is so historic, and there is a beautiful charm that you don't always get when you stay in a "modern" hotel. We arrived earlier than expected and the receptionist was very friendly, she let us check in early and we had the Deluxe room. The room is fully equipped and very spacious - my favourites were the comfortable bed and lovely bath tub, perfect at the end of the day after walking around Genoa! Breakfast is also good value as you get a wide variety of food, including Italian pastries, gluten free options etc. I highly recommend having a drink in their bar, whether or not you are staying in the hotel. Lovely cocktails and classy ambience! Also recommend booking the spa access early as places are limited due to Covid measures. All the staff we encountered at this hotel have been so friendly and accommodating - please keep up the good work Grand Hotel Savoia and maintain the standards as you always have! We will certainly be back to stay again.

"Lovely hotel, oozing old world elegance and charm"

5
BlackSombrero, London, United Kingdom 30/10/2021

A great hotel. Great decor, good service, all client-facing staff trilingual (Italian, English and French) at a minimum, and very friendly and courteous to boot. Dog friendly. Child-friendly (there is a secret pirate-themed playground in a courtyard on the 3rd floor). I'm writing this review from the lobby at the end of a 3-night stay, and I wish I could stay longer. Would recommend to anyone looking for a hotel in Genoa. May lack some of the facilities typically expected of a hotel of this class (no pool is a big omission), but it makes up for it with restrained elegance, charming decor, lush breakfast and a convenient location.

"Great location and impeccable service"

5
dkazusa, Chicago, Illinois 29/10/2021

Outstanding location, service and accommodation. Hotel is next to train station and within walking distance to many attractions. Hotel has a treasure trove collection of Asian art including stone statues and samurai outfits. It's a grand historic hotel and service is impeccable. We visited from U.S. and the staff made use feel welcome. We are glad WorldHotels has such a grand hotel among its collection.

"Not if you need WiFi"

3
divadan, Chicago, Illinois 08/10/2021

If you need WiFi for work or anything at all, do not stay here. I've been to 84 countries and never seen hotel wifi so undependable and slow. The staff didn't care when I asked about it. Good things: it's close to train and you can walk to a lot of site in 20 mins or less. It's quiet. It's a very old and historic hotel which makes it very interesting and charming. The mezzanine floor has a great collection of antiquities. Breakfast is wonderful and spa is great. Rooftop views and hot tubs on roof are awesome. Security: anyone can walk right in off the street and come up to the rooms. Made me a feel a bit unsafe. Showers are scalding hot or ice cold. Wouldn't stay here again unless the wifi was fixed. Have attached photos of my WiFi speed test.

"Very comfortable Hotel next to the train station"

5
Coastal728116, Gig Harbor, Washington 12/09/2021

Wonderful room, complete amenities and a very large breakfast, with the ideal location if traveling by train! Slow service at breakfast and in the bar, but great service from Federico in the restaurant made dinner wonderful!

"Old comfortable hotel"

4
User 30/08/2021

Positive: great front desk and breakfast staff, old retro 19th century ambiance, really good breakfast, perfectly clean, reasonably comfortable, convenient train station location Areas for improvement: could be more comfortable / not a real 5* hotel (less comfortable bed and pillows, very basic furniture), noise insulation is not great if you have neighbors, rooms need a refit, you can sometimes hear the trains faintly though they stop at night, rather questionable neighborhood next to the train station.

"Very nice hotel"

5
kyriacosp880, Lausanne, Switzerland 27/08/2021

We stayed for 2 days. We had a very positive experience. The hotel is very nice with nice view from the top floor. The rooms are comfortable well insulated from noise. The personnel is very kind and helpful. We had dinner for my birthday and they gave us a bottle of wine for free. They have a valet parking for 25 euros per day and considering the prices of the area their rate is very correct. We recommend it!

"Fabulous location and beautiful grand hotel"

5
laurabU9903CP, Seattle, Washington 24/08/2021

We enjoyed this beautiful hotel, it has a lot of character and we enjoyed checking out the interesting pieces of information they have marked on the different floors. The room was nicely appointed with comfortable beds (pillows not so much but I am sure I could have called for replacements). We were a little disappointed in the "hot" tubs on the 7th floor as they were just warm. We still enjoyed it and you can order a drink from the bar while you soak which is nice. We had dinner one night at the restaurant and the fish sampler that my husband had was outstanding and I usually don't like fish however, I tried everything and it was all tasty. Overall the hotel is in a great location across from the train station and about a 10-minute walk to the marina where the aquarium is and about the same or less to where you can tour the palaces and lots of shopping and dining. I would definitely stay here again.

"Totally satisfied!"

Cedric_Deiber, Brussels, Belgium 23/08/2021

Spent 1 night with family. The rooms are very comfortable. We loved the 19th century design. The breakfasts are incredible, with a lot of choice! The hotel is very well placed. We would come back to visit Genova!

"This is not a 5 stars hotel.. a let down"

3
LAETICOSTA, Bern, Switzerland 06/08/2021

The hotel does not deserve it's 5 stars due to the spa being g super small and expensive for what it is. Moreover we had a room where the TV and mini bar were not working and we realised this once we unpacked so we couldn't be bothered changing room. Due to Covid breakfast was served by the staff and we felt rushed to make our choice but had to wait every 3 mornings ages to have our coffees. Most shocking experience was dinner on our last night. We decided to eat at the restaurant. Had to wait 20 mins to have the menu. No amuse bouché, no kids menu but the manager agreed to do some chicken for my son. Our dishes arrived.. the food was super bland. Then the chicken was served .. inedible as it was over cooked. We sent back the chicken. It came back even worse. I was super upset as when you go to this type of restaurants and pricing you expect top food. I am not that type of angry person who uses the platform to trash ( as if you read my reviews I am super fair ), but honestly I was very upset and I left the table and went back to my room crying . The manager acknowledged to my husband the issues so fair to him but it was traumatising. One good thing though: a lady named Mounia who was serving at breakfast. A superstar, very polite, very engaging and caring. A gem another hotel should hire!

"Very good, but..."

ACCOMScope, Austria 31/07/2021

We originally booked a room in the nearby Hotel Continental, because we liked the Continental's modernized and nicely designed rooms. Arriving at the hotel, we were told to check in in the Grand Hotel Savoia. We did not know why the modernized Hotel we booked was not available. The room we got in the Grand Hotel Savoia was in the second floor, pretty small, and dark. Definitely not the modernized, friendly room we expected in the Hotel Continental. Nevertheless, the room we got was super clean and had a nice bath room and good wi-fi. Mattresses were excellent. Staf at the reception was competent and friendly. What we found a bit strange was the room service: they did not refill the mini bar every day, nor did they bring a new bottle of free water or toilet paper (on Tuesday and Thursday service was excelent, on Wednesday and Friday not that good). In sum, Grand Hotel Savoia is a good choice, its location is great. However, when I book a room in one hotel, I do not like to be transferred to another. Be it grand or not.

"Mixed impressions"

3
User 20/07/2021

Great location next to one of the major train stations. Most restaurants and the old town are a 15-20 min walk away. The staff was helpful and service minded, except for the service on the rooftop which was frustratingly indifferent to customers waiting to order. The jacuzzis on the rooftop are 4-people bathtubs with too warm water. Would be nicer with colder water for a cool down during summer. On the first night, we had a neighbor who for some reason maxed the volume on the TV at 1am. It took some time to figure out where the noise came from but once we called the front desk, the issue was sorted very quickly by the staff. There are several annoying disturbances during night: at the fifth floor there were sounds either from the plumbing or the elevator that were quite loud. Also, the fire alarm in the middle of the ceiling is constantly flashing a red light right above the bed. The breakfast buffé is great but due to COVID restrictions we were not allowed to get our own food and the staff doing it did not know English very well so we gave up and just pointed at a few things. Not worth the cost. The garages are nearby and we had no issue getting a spot.

"Summer Holiday"

5
DIva_010203, Sofia, Bulgaria 12/07/2021

Everything was perfect - the room, the staff, the breakfast. For security reasons, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, staff served breakfast to customers. The variety of fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat products was impressive. Cappuccino end espresso caffè were unique. Thank you very much!

"I've had an AWFUL time. Nothing works in my room"

1
User 28/05/2021

This is NOT 5 star by any stretch of the imagination- definitely not by English standards. I was told there were no rooms although online there were rooms. I was told to wait for the manager as I would get a discounted rate. The manager was super unfriendly & in my opinion - unprofessional & offered me no discounted rate. I arrived early without a booking but was assured there was a room & I needed to come back. I therefore asked if I could leave my luggage there. No said the receptionist in a 5* hotel. Drag your 40kg of suitcases & cross all these major roads & ask at the station if there's somewhere u can leave your bags. Can u imagine the receptionist at the Savoy in London doing this? Anyway finally they allowed me to sit in the hall, I told the lady I had not slept a wink the night before & I had not eaten for over 24 hours. You would think I would get offered a glass of water or tea while I am waiting but no such courtesy, They gave me a room for 2 nights out of the 21 nights I needed & said they would review it tomorrow. The effect of this is restlessness & the inability to unpack 40 kg of luggage. The staff in my opinion apart from the lady that cleaned my room & the gent from room service / are unfriendly unwelcoming unkind & possibly discriminatory because I can clearly see there are rooms online but in person they refused to confirm my 21 day booking. The room- telly doesn't work, lights come on & off sporadically. There was no kettle, I asked for one, there were no mugs I had to go downstairs to get one. I have solo travelled round the world & stayed at 5 or 4 star hotels. I would normally stay at a Hilton or grand Hyatt but the Hilton is 54km away. Based on my worldwide travel & LONG stays in 4 & 5 star hotels I can honestly say this is the worst experience I've ever had.. the staff is definitely extremely unfriendly. The reviews I read are completely different from my experience so I can only deduce from this that their ill treatment of me could be based on my colour & my single female status. I disagree with the reviews & I do not recommend this hotel. I want to know who awards stars & on what basis this is awarded 5 stars. That's a joke.

"Very grand indeed, great value and very good restaurant too"

5
EmandDee, London, United Kingdom 16/01/2021

Very luxurious and friendly too. The restaurant is also very good. The rooms are lovely. Not everything was open but that's not unexpected given Covid. Well managed hygiene arrangements so felt very safe.

"The very best"

L5111NVchrisb, Antwerp, Belgium 13/10/2020

We came from la Morra and payed the same for a basic appartement ! Corona deals are just not to miss. Reception staff is extremely friendly and speak english ! Not as evident as it seems in italy. Luxurious rooms. They come and check i think even twice a day. Breakfast is top ! Healthy food , even quinoa if you want. Local pastry. Everything you can think of is available. Ok the drinks in the beautiful bar, a bit a palace feeling, are not so cheap but you get a lot of appetizers and a friendly atmosphere. In corona times you can be lucky with that. In Torino we did not even had 2 chairs to sit on ...... Loving it !

"Visited here on honeymoon 2015"

5
User 12/08/2020

We visited Genoa in August 2015 for one night as part of our honeymoon. This is one of the best hotels I've stayed in based on the overall experience. It is conveniently located next to the station, the rooms are stunning, the restaurant and view is amazing (special mention to whoever the waiter/ restaurant manger was in August 2015, his service was nothing short of exceptional!). The spa was wonderful as well. We would love to visit again one day.

"Amazing"

A truly memerable stay ,the hotel takes you back to another era, from reception through to the lounge , bedrooms in keeping with the rest of hotel food excellent breakfast to die for so much choice and an unhurried service.

"Beautiful hotel in great location"

5
alfred19, Halifax, Canada 18/02/2020

We pulled up to the hotel from a busy, ugly road and were a little worried about what we might find inside. Oh my! This hotel is a gem! It is an historic building that is beautifully maintained and staffed by friendly, gracious people. Our room was the most basic, a Classic Queen, but it was spacious and had everything we could possibly need. There were tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and a fridge. The bed was comfortable and the sheets and bedding of a high standard. The bathroom was lovely and had good quality towels and bathing supplies. The lighting was good and there was a large, magnifying mirror. The public spaces were magnificent. There were several gorgeous rooms in which to sit and have a drink and the breakfast room was light and lovely. The breakfast itself was delicious (a large buffet and an omelet option) and the staff attentive and helpful. Thank you to all of the staff for a memorable and delightful stay!

"Short stay"

Very pleasant stay. Would return for longer. Close to train station for our morning departure. Room facilities were magnificent. (We had been given a free upgrade as well.) Breakfast was really good. Nice atmosphere and huge selection.
