« Nice hotel, but service is hit or miss »

Hotel is in a great location, delivers a wonderful view, and the rooms, breakfast, and internet are all top notch (rooms are a TAD dated though). Staff was very friendly, but certain things weren't up to snuff: 1. Called for two extra pillows, and didn't get them until we went down the next day to ask again. And even then, we only got one. 2. Hockey team and parents staying there. Fine. But staff allowed them to play sports in the halls and be noisy at all hours. 3. On our last day, the staff had cleared breakfast away a full 30 minutes before it was supposed to end. They brought the food back out for us, but it was no longer fresh.

« Good hotel is a good location. »

I have been travelling to Ottawa on business for many years. This hotel is on the Gatineau side of the river but it is very close ot downtown Ottawa. Currently the hotel is undergoing renovations, nonetheless, it is an exceptional hotel for a good price. I recommend staying at the Best Western Plus in Gatineau-Ottawa.

    « construction »

Parking was not easy to access, construction all over the place, there was something with the hockey and curling kids tournaments, so very noisy and crowded. Overall, nice quite amazing personnel in this Best Western

    « Not courtious »

Did not help senior with her luggage. Gave wrong room numbers to later arriving senior, waking up other guests when knocking on the door. Breakfast area very messy. Not re-filled., had to ask for everything.

    « Smart Consideration »

Consider this hotel if you need a cheaper option if you are attending for conferences taking place across the bridge in Ottawa or if downtown is booked. Includes breakfast and parking is $11/night. Upgraded rooms are nice. All amenities. Good location in walking distance to sparks, court, the market, hill, history and canal rides. Not noisy either which is nice during their renovations.

« Nothing to get excited about (looking at you, Ms "best sleep ever!!!") »

I stayed here for 4 nights, and while it was fine, I think I could have found a better hotel in Gatineau. On the plus side, the staff were very friendly and helpful, including the reception desk and the wait staff. The room had enough space, and the beds were comfortable. On the minus side, there was construction at the front, and the building had a bit of a musty smell. Also the corridors were oddly cramped - going up to my room, the elevator door opened, and I was looking straight through an open door into a room with a bunch of guys having a little party. Odd.

    « Mixed Feelings »

My wife and I booked the Best Western Plus in Gatineau primarily because of it's location right at the end of the Alexandra Bridge. The price for a king room was good too and the staff at the front desk were friendly and mostly helpful. The hotel is under construction but this is not communicated anywhere! I suppose I should have taken the time to read the reviews and I may have stayed elsewhere but I think the hotel should have disclosed this on their site or during the booking process. The room we got was on the 9th floor which, when we got off the elevator, was designated as the Executive Floor. The hallways were unusually narrow which gave a slightly claustrophobic feeling. The room was around a corner at the end of the hallway but there were no lights in that area. Just a fixture with wires hanging out of it. There was no light on the other side of the hallway either. I actually could not see clearly where I was supposed to put my room card for access to the room! The room was a decent size but looked very worn. There were water stains on the ceiling and below the air conditioner were more wires that were not covered. There was a balcony but the door would not open more than about 6". The balcony had quite a lot of debris on it - probably from the construction. The bed was VERY comfortable and we had a good sleep. This hotel is old - the rooms were probably upgraded a long time ago - they're not the original rooms - and they're now working on the external face of the building. I hope they renovate the rooms again too - they certainly need it. The parking was limited to about 15 spots in-front of the hotel and two parking lots across the street in a sketchy area. We were a bit uncomfortable leaving our car there but it turned out ok. There is underground parking but we were not told about that by the front desk on check-in. Another couple staying at the hotel mentioned it to us. The ramp from the area in-front of the hotel down to the street is too steep and when I drove over it, the bottom of my car scraped along the cement and then the front of the car scraped on the road - I was NOT driving quickly either - I was moving very slowly. I mentioned it to the front-desk person and he wasn't really interested. The construction is taking it's toll on the staff as well as the guests - it's been going on since April 2016 (we were told) and is due to be finished in October but I doubt that's going to happen.

    « Satisfying experience »

Best location in gatineau, most peaceful surroundings, comfortable bed and large room, adequate breakfast service and helpful front desk staff. In short, most value for money. For lively surroundings, 10 min. walk over bridge to Byward market in Ottawa is required.

    « Great central location »

Although the hotel is under construction, the value is top notch. Great breakfast bar, amazing staff and the beds are super comfortable. You cross the street and you have an amazing park to do your fitness run or walk. Bring bikes. Cross the bridge and in 20 minutes you are in the market.

« Great location at less cost »

This hotel is directly across the river from downtown Ottawa. It is easy to walk across the bridge to all the downtown sites. We choose to stay here because the cost is significantly less than staying on the Ontario side of the river. The hotel is presently being renovated but this did not impact our stay in any way.

    « BEST SLEEP EVER!!!! »

The location of this hotel is excellent! We literally parked our car for the 3 days and walked everywhere! Restaraunts within 2 blocks away and grocery store next door! We will definately return to this fantastic waterfront oasis....

    « good ratio Quality / price »

excepted the outside renovation work ( temporary bad looking but no noise during the night supposed finish in November 2016!) my experience was very good. large clean room, fast internet very comfortable bed.

    « pleasure »

Without the construction it was a pleasant stay. The construction takes away front the stay but overall very nice. The view was nice and the park just across the road was a pleasant addition to the trip.

    « A great leisure break »

We chose this hotel because of the river views & the convenient location, close to Ottawa city centre, but not in it. The food in the restaurant is excellent, although the dinner menu is limited. The staff were friendly & helpful.

    « A great place to stay »

We stayed here to visit Ottawa. It was much cheaper to stay here than in Ottawa, itself. The hotel was under renovation when we stayed. Only criticism was that we had to pay $11 a day to park in their carpark and there was no breakfast included. Room was quiet and clean. Will be very nice when the renovations are complete.

« Less Expensive but Lacks Space »

The parking at the front is limited and the space for each vehicle is tight. When you leave the front parking area the angle at which you approach the road is so steep it can cause you to scrape the front of the vehicle. You have to drive very slowly to prevent this from happening. The door to the underground parking is left open for longer periods than I would have liked. The overflow parking spaces are not gated so this is less than desirable. The room I stayed in was small and there was noise from construction and noise from wind howling outside my windows.

    « Disappointing for a Best Western »

The location was excellent. Unfortunately the room we stayed in was in desperate need of a update. Work was underway on the exterior of the hotel, judging from the room we had, I think work should have started on the interior first. I have not been disappointed by a Best Western before but I cannot give this hotel a good review.

    « Beautiful views »

Although under construction, we enjoyed our stay here. Great location, great view. A short walk to Parliament Hill, Rideau Canal and Byward market. Bathroom was cramped but we weren't in the room much.

    « Nice hotel - great location »

We have stayed at this hotel several times and is our #1 choice when going to Ottawa. Right across the river from Parliament Hill, it is a short walk across the Alexandra Bridge. Rooms are very clean. Staff is wonderful. No free breakfast but you can partake in the restaurant in the hotel or go to the Market area and enjoy some of the 24hour places to eat. There is a "secret" underground parking lot here too. Free parking. I never knew about this until one of the desk staff mentioned it. Great if it is raining outside. There is a bike trail right across the street, so if you are into biking, this is wonderful option.

« Best Hotel in the capitial region »

Have stayed at this hotel a number of times just a short drive or walk to the capital buildings. Hotel offers outstanding views great value and great staff parking is not a problem underground or ground level at no charge great stay

    « Canada day »

Great location for quick access to the celebrations and the fireworks. Hotel is a bit threadbare and was under construction. Great friendly service though. Sadly I think I left my favourite yellow raincoat in the cupboard, but haven't heard that it was found.

    « Under construction »

I know things need to be maintained and what not, however, I really think during the consumer should be alerted to this at the time of booking. The hotel itself is nice and in need of upgrades in some areas. The staff members were all courteous and professional.

« Convenient location, nice facility »

Across the river location at first seems off-putting, but it is only a 2 block walk to the wonderful History Museum, across the street from the Hop On/Hop Off bus stop and a boat tour dock. The National Gallery (Art Museum) is a 20-min walk across the bridge. I used the tourist bus and cabs to easily get all around town, especially with the money I saved. Room was fine with refrige and superb view of river and Parliament.

« Close to Parliment Buildings and History Museum. »

We stayed July 31 to August 1, 2016. Check in easy and front girl was very friendly. Asked for a river view and she accommodated us. Parking out front limited, after seeing the light show we had to park in small lot off to side by small variety store -- little scary but was turned out okay. Rooms not super large but updated and comfortable. View of River and Parliament buildings fantastic. Nice park across the street and History Museum a block away. Parked at hotel and walked since the hotel charged $11 we figured why pay $12 to park at the museum. Nice lobby with nice water with fruit available. There is a restaurant on main floor. Prices looked reasonable but we did eat there because my husband was having stomach problems and wanted mash potatoes. We ate on Laval street where there are a lot of trendy restaurants/bars. The halls were quite narrow and elevators were slow. The pool was freezing cold. The price was right so I can not complain.

« great location, great view »

this hotel has a great location, close to parliament, gallery, etc. across the river. the view of the river and parliament on the south side was great. exterior and lobby was somewhat under construction, and pretty good room (King Bed, River View, 8th Floor), would stay again.

« A convenient stay just minutes from Parliament Hill »

We stayed here one night when visiting Ottawa. It was convenient located just minutes from Parliament Hill. The room was clean and comfortable. The balconies were being renovated, so inaccessible. The BW has a swimming pool which was a nice perk. The breakfast offered in the lobby restaurant was affordable and good.

    « Go somewhere else. »

This is an apartment building that is being converted to a hotel. There is some construction happening. Parking is a pain in the butt. It's in a residential neighbourhood and in front of parc Jacques cartier. Odd location. Hallways are dark and gloomy and musty. The rooms are ungraded but very basic. Elevators are old. Service was OK. Courteous. The price was cheap so that's why I stayed here. I would have rather spend a little more for a nicer hotel. I would not recommend.

« Clean Hotel In Gatineau Located Next to Jacques Cartier Park »

I stayed in this hotel with family for one night in August 2016. The hotel's exterior is under significant construction, but the interior seems unaffected and already renovated. Our guest room was large and well-appointed, with a fairly large refrigerator and a coffee machine. Staff is friendly. The hotel is located about a 5 minute drive from Ottawa's ByWard Market and just slightly farther from Parliament; figure a 20-30 minute walk to each.

« Awesome, economic hotel, so close to Parliament Hill »

Great for families. However, you have to make sure they clean your room. When we stayed in July 2016, I had to ask housekeeping why we were not receiving clean towels and amenities on a daily basis? Why our room wasn't cleaned? It was a bit disturbing. They would leave the cleaning cart on our floor, the whole day. I've stayed in many Best Westerns, but this one was not the best with housekeeping.

    « cafe 131 »

Worst customer service, offer free breakfast however have a limit of $10 per person. Rude staff at cafe 131...not recommended. Hotel made error that we were 2 adults instead of family and cafe 131 didnt show the inclination to fix it, and only allowed bfast for 2 adults and insisted that we pay for the child.

« Worst customer service experience »

The view is the only good thing about this location, any other thing here is completely bad. The personnel in all departments in this hotel are the worst to deal with. I have been to other Best Western in Canada and New York City and the Gatineau staff are the worst. They are rude, careless, lazy and not helpful. I am writing the review before checking out and I hardly do that. But the attitude and service is bad bad bad. If you care only about the views to the river and the parliament Hill, then stay here. If you are looking for better enjoyable experience, stay somewhere else. Parking is another bad experience with this hotel, they have 3 limited parking spots around the hotel and one is underground parking, if you are late at night even the underground is full. I forgot to mention, the hotel is going under renovation and they didn't mention anything about this issue at all, not on website, phone, online,... You try to open the door of your balcony to enjoy the views and they locked it with a metal screwed piece that you cannot unscrewed it, if I knew balcony is inaccessible I wouldn't have booked here at all. Breakfast is not included in the rate like other BW hotels. There is restaurant on site for breakfast only. Rooms are outdated and yes need a lot of renovations, filthy carpets all over the hotel. In brief if you have 150 dollars for one night plus taxes go somewhere else. I don't recommend it. Which is not the case with me for other many hotels I have been to and I recommend. Viviane

    « Mixed review »

The location, lobby and front desk service were excellent. The value, sleep quality, room decoration and state of repair was good. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the room and especially the bathroom, left much to be desired. We were unable to rate the hotel breakfast menu as there was an area electrical power disruption shortly after we place our orders. The latter was no fault of the hotel and all emergency features, including elevators, remained working.

    « Under Renovations »

Wished there was a notice of the renovations. Agree with the other reviews, good location, okay for a one night experience. The bistro within the hotel was a disappointment, had to send order back twice; had identified an allergy first service included the allergen, the second was not even the same dish. After an hour wait, not even a 'sorry' Usually a fan of Best Western, this one fell short. Maybe after the reno's???

    « Location,Location »

Excellent location for seeing downtown Ottawa, walking to the Parliament Buildings; parks, museums, market, cycling trails. Right along the river. Just over the bridge to downtown Ottawa. Cannot beat the value for your money.

    « Okay Hotel »

The hotel is rated as 4 star hotel which is highly over rated.... when i booked the hotel over the phone I specifically asked to the agent if there is any constructions going on and she advised that hotel has just been renovated and no constructions going on....surely when i arrived there was construction going on...the room was three year old daughter found a screw and drill bit on the window latch...the closet door was falling apart...the hallway carpet was dirty...The parking locations were terrible....I think this hotel should be 3 or 3.5 start max. It was OKAY experience with this hotel. Next time I would probably go for another hotel.

« Okay for one night »

My husband and I stayed here on a weekend getaway. All in all, the place is great, because of it's prime location next to Alexandria Bridge and the wonderful staff. We had a very nice and clean room on the 8th floor, but the hotel is quite old. It was very noisy, the elevator takes ages and parking is extra.

    « Very 'Meh' »

It was clean and friendly, and they did upgrade and accommodate us. But be warned it is under renovations, they have very limited parking all spread out between 4 lots around the building in a sketchy neighborhood. Underground parking is a joke. Exercise room it 4 prices of equipment and pool is over chlorinated. Close to a park, bus route and Canadian Museum of History though.

    « Gatineau Ottawa trip »

Got an upgraded to an Executive Suite, hotel was wonderful, clean, very helpful staff. We were so close to Ottawa, we were able to walk across the Alexandria Bridge, walked around Ottawa, then took the Water Taxi back to Gatineau. Toured around Gatineau, found some great places to eat, people extremely friendly & not speaking French ( my bad) but everyone were very accommodating to speak English!

« price to high for this »

pricing to high noise terrible. water pressur problem. parking not include in the price. have to pay 11 $ per car even if we had to room... room are old and a place like that shoudn't cost more than 110 $ ou 125 whit parking ...

    « Bad noise »

We got woken up at 8 am by workers who were working on the roof and the staff never informed us about noise.Staff could of offered a discount or free breakfast also we paid for parking and had to park on the street since all workers were using the parking lot.Very disapointed

    « Convenient location »

The best thing about this hotel is its location; easy to get to, walking distance from down-town Ottawa, Parliament Hill and many points of interest. The view of Parliament and the Ottawa River is impressive. The dock for the Ottawa River cruises is located just a few steps from the hotel, at the foot of Alexandra Bridge, and if you stay here during the Tulip Festival, as we did, the bright colors in the neighboring Jacques Cartier Park and the quietly roaming Canada Geese watching over their offspring add a special touch this tranquil river landscape. Other than that, it is best to think of it as a tall Motel that needs quite a bit more than the current exterior renovations to bring it in tune with today's times. Mind you, our room was satisfactory and clean, with comfortable beds. On the other hand, the bathroom sink was shattered into several pieces, leaving the impression that it was glued together just to get a little more mileage out of it. The relatively small elevators and narrow, dark hallways have a tendency to make you feel a little hemmed in. One of the two elevators was shut down for the duration and made the coming and going rather painful, especially with a busload of new arrivals; totally inadequate for a 10-storey, 150-room hotel. The reception and the service at the front desk in general were exceptional; very friendly and helpful. But if the hotel's priority is customer satisfaction, they missed a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate it by adjusting the room rates accordingly - to make up for the obvious inconveniences. At $191 per night, including parking fees and taxes, I can't say it was that great a deal. I didn't mind the parking fees, but if pay we must, I do not expect to park a block down from the hotel property, in a somewhat poorly lit area and rather uninviting neighborhood. A final thought; a room with River View is worth asking for. If this review has been helpful, please click on Thank below.

« Three day stay at the hotel »

We did not use any of the services as we used the venue for sleeping purposes. The hotel is conveniently located just across the river from Parliament buildings. We walked across daily to our events. The staff persons we spoke with were extremely courteous and kind. Unfortunately we did not record names. The room was always neat and clean and the bed was comfortable. We had an excellent view of the fireworks right from our window.

« Don't understand what is being asked »

We enjoy The Best Western Plus here in Gatineau . First of all Best westerns are always our choice of accomodation when we travel. This was has an exceptional location for us because of it's proximity to Our Nation's Capital, ease of getting to and from either walking or by bus. Ottawa-Gatineau is a very friendly and welcoming place to be with one exception - Quebec is a unilingual province whereas all the rest of Canada is bi-lingual. This is a reason why Tourism in Quebec has dropped so drastically.

Staff were extremely professional they had a great package for visiting Museums in the area, it's located mere steps from the Museum of civilization. The hotel's location was good with tasty restaurants within walking distance. Salt water pool was a bonus, the kids slept great afterwards! Beds were extremely comfortable which is always a must! We'll be booking here for sure at our next visit to the Nation's capital. Alain was very helpful at check-in and during our stay.

    « Wildly disappointed »

I generally try and find a Best Western to stay at regardless of where I am in Canada. So, naturally, while in Gatineau, I sought one out here. I gave this location only 2 stars and that is solely dedicated to the staff. Had the staff been rude or non accommodating, it would have received a one star. To begin with, I got here late in the evening but got checked in timely and courteously. There's the one star. However, the parking is atrocious, as in, there isn't any. I can appreciate the cramped up location, but the additional parking was kitty corner to the building with zero lighting. The other parking was around the block to the back and finally an underground lot for $11 a night. I opted for the underground because I didn't feel like walking from the far lot in the middle of the night. I went to find a plug in for my phone. I rifled behind the nightstand to find a series of plugs all plugged into ONE extension cord (which I might add is 2 prong). See picture. I had paid for two nights ($129+tax and then $125+tax) in advance so I'm here again. I put the "do not disturb" sign up last night because I wanted to sleep in. I left my room at noon and came back at 4 and the room hadn't been cleaned at all. I noticed as I had walked down the hallway that one room hadn't been cleaned all day. I knew that because the door had been open when I left and was the same when I came back (and is still open). See picture. The bed is comfortable and the room is clean. The hotel itself is incredibly old and dated but that's neither here nor there. Supper at Restaurant 131 (I believe), was mediocre. The menu was very "thin" and there was a serious lack of alcohol In the bar area (an admission by the waitress herself to two gentlemen who came in for a beer). The waitress was friendly though. When in Rome, do as the Romans how I try to do things when away. So, I attempted high school French but the staff were highly fluent so I didn't need to continue embarrassing myself! Haha. Excellent on their part! Just disappointing when it was a Best Western and always of higher quality elsewhere.

« Never Again!! An Absolutely Reprehensible & Disheartening Experience. »

In view of our upcoming 18th anniversary celebration, I had booked a reservation at Best Western Plus, (131 Rue Laurier) in Gatineau via the on-line booking service. The reservation was for 2 guests, 2 nights and 1 room, from June 20th to June 22nd, 2016. My wife and I had once celebrated at the Best Western Fireside Inn, located in Kingston Ontario, right after we got married, and it was a wonderful and delightful experience back then. Besides our gorgeous room with a whirlpool, and all the pampering we received upon our arrival, their room service was second to none and their restaurant was, in my opinion, equivalent to a ?Five-Star? rating. That was level of service at the Best Western Fireside Inn, in Kingston Ontario, 18 years ago. My wife and I decided to enjoy another pampering visit at a Best Western (Plus) for our 18th anniversary celebration! We knew what to expect (or so we had thought). So, I eagerly booked our room on-line, well in advance, by using a CIBC Visa Debit Card (which works just like a regular credit card online but without the inherent credit card fees, limit surcharges, or interest charges), on June 1, 2016. I subsequently received my confirmation number for our reserved room and I was also advised on my itinerary that I had ?Free cancellation until June 16, 2016? (this reservation was not cancelled), after which time, I expected that I would be held fully committed to staying at this Best Western Plus, in Gatineau. However, on June 20, 2016 when my wife and I arrived at the Best Western Plus, (131 Rue Laurier) in Gatineau, after an already unusually long train trip that had been unexpectedly delayed by almost 2 hours, we were both really tired and enthusiastic to enjoy a refreshing siesta in the Queen-sized bed, that we had previously reserved, and committed ourselves to. And, of course, we were both looking forward to the same level of pampering and professional, courteous service and treatment that we had experienced 18 years ago, on our wedding night, at the Best Western Fireside Inn, in Kingston, Ontario. Well, quelle surprise! We received nothing that even came close to the attentiveness that we had come to expect from a Best Western (Plus) type of place. Upon check-in, I was asked to provide them with a Credit Card in order to check-in the room that I had previously booked on-line and, presumably, had already guaranteed in full. I explained to the receptionist that I did not use, or possess, a Credit Card (and in fact, I have refused numerous offers in the past from my bank for a Platinum Credit Card). I do not, and I shall not use one, by my own free choice. I have refused to support the Credit Card industry for many years now, and I shall continue to do so in the future. I offered the Best Western (Plus) a cash security deposit and/or my Visa Debit Card to be fully pre-authorized to pay for everything in full, right there ? in advance. The receptionist replied that she could not allow me to have the reserved room, even if I paid with a cash deposit in addition to paying, in advance, the full amount of the room. And, money was no object to me in this case. I was ready and willing to pay for everything. I explained to her that I was in a rather precarious position as a result, since we had no other place to go at that particular point in time. Although the receptionist was courteous in her conduct, she was still very formal and didn't seem really concerned or compassionate about our immediate predicament. The receptionist did make a quick attempt to call another place for us. I felt that it was somewhat thoughtful of her. Unfortunately, only one night was available at another place. My heart really sank - right there. That's no way to spend a well-planned 18th year anniversary celebration. Not to mention the sheer irony of experiencing a totally different level of service than what we had previously experienced at another Best Western location, 18 years prior. I, personally, felt degraded to the level of an ?article-of-trade? or just ?another commodity? while standing there bearing, and listening to all of this. I didn't feel like my wife and I were regarded as dignified human beings who were both worthy of above-normal service. I replied to the receptionist that this incident just served to strengthen my resolve to never own a Credit Card, under any circumstances. I mentioned to her that I thought it was beneath Best Western (Plus) to do such a callous thing to a former client and that I was very disappointed with their level (definition) of service. I also mentioned that I would be writing a review about this, at the time, dreadful experience. My wife and I retained our full self-respect and simply walked out the door of the Best Western (Plus). It turned out that it was the best thing we ever did for ourselves on that day. Initially, we did feel quite stranded with no car, getting a bit late, and our taxi had just left us to go back to Ottawa. Nevertheless, we were able to secure a beautiful place for ourselves in the heart of Ottawa. We reserved a very attractive Queen-sized bedroom with kitchen amenities that overlooked the city. The location was easily accessible to the Ottawa Locks, where we were planning to take a boat cruise the following day - which worked out quite well for us. It was more expensive than the Best Western Plus, but it really was a much nicer place, and it was certainly well worth it! And yes, they were quite happy to accept a Visa Debit Card, for full payment. I felt rather delighted to spend more money at another high class Hotel that actually appreciated our presence, beyond our possession of a common Credit Card, and provided both of us with exceptional service, in many ways! After we got over the initial shock, and our spirits lifted. I did my best to ensure that my wife and I had a wonderful 18th year anniversary celebration, in spite of this unexpected and humiliating inconvenience. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, be it resolved that I shall never stoop that low again so as to have both my wonderful wife and I so categorised and humiliated, by booking with any Best Western (Plus) ? ever again. In retrospect, perhaps I should really extend a big ?Thank-You? to the Best Western Plus (131 Rue Laurier) in Gatineau, for helping me to narrow down our forthcoming choices of places to stay and places where NOT to stay, whenever we go on vacation in the future. Alors, merci infiniment, Best Western (Plus)!! Et je vous fais mes adieux - pour toujours.

This very nice hotel is beeing renovated in spring-summer 2016. We appreciated the warm pool, the free Wi-Fi, the little fridge and the free parking. We asked for a microwave oven and we got it right away. Pierre at the front desk is very talkative and his advice is useful. The view on the river is not to be missed. The room was spacious and clean. The patio door is a plus.

    « Girls Night Out »

Great location!! Proximity to downtown Ottawa was perfect for a girls night out, rooms were fresh and clean, staff was friendly and helpful, very reasonable rates! Would definitely choose this location again!

    « Without a hitch »

My friends and I stayed at the hotel for a girls weekend and it was an excellent stay. The current renovations never affected our stay once! The staff was friendly and we will definitely stay there again!

    « Friendly fun »

We were 8 girls reuniting for a great night. We had a fabulous stay!!! The staff was very friendly and helpful making sure that we were satisfied with everything! One night, great rooms, friendly staff with reasonable rates! Couldn't ask for a better stay! Thanks BW!

    « Love this hotel »

I just can't justify the cost of staying downtown so I always take the chance and stay in Gatineau.. and this hotel in my favorite. .. I WAS PLEASANTLY surprised upon arrival as they are giving themselves a face lift and it's looking great. The front desk staff was fantastic, the were quick efficient and very helpful.. I was traveling with a few friends and they gave me recommendations for restaurants and a few bars downtown. The rooms were great. We had a corner room and it was large, well furnished and quiet. The hotel is under renovations so the balcony does not open at this moment, however, the view outside was amazing.. We could see the river and parliament in it's full glory. The hotel is very close to the market and restaurants in the area. I would recommend this hotel in a heart beat ...

« Great hotel for cycling »

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Plus Gatineau-Ottawa. The location was superb with lovely views of the Ottawa River and a short walk to many attractions and downtown Ottawa. We especially loved that the bike trails were just outside our door. Breakfast was delicious and reasonably priced. There was some construction at the front of the hotel which took away from the appearance and the elevators looked dingy, but our room was very nice, clean and well decorated with a great view. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We plan to make our stay here an annual event.

    « A tall motel....with lipstick »

Had to stay here 3 nights while on business, and was happy when it was time to go home. While I didn't have a horrible stay, there isn't a lot to recommend about this property. On the positive side, the Byward Market is in walking distance and of course the Civilization museum is close by. The staff were generally nice and helpful. On the not so positive side....lots. The building is pretty old and looks like it's had a few coats of lipstick on it from different owners. Best Western has tried to dress up some of the furniture and coverings, but just barely. A lot of surfaces looked pretty grimy, like the curtains, walls and carpet and things like the elevator are pretty battered. Wall a/c unit in the room was loud and seemed to have one speed. Bathroom was tiny, pretty basic, and shower water pressure was weak. I didn't get any new bath towels one day, and had no washcloths another. Walls and especially doors were thin. Could hear my neighbour quite clearly on the phone. No safe. Pillows were low quality lumpy foam types. Fitness room is tiny. Didn't help that there was a fire alarm which evacuated the building just before midnight one night, with no explanations from management. And at checkout they don't slip your bill under the door like every other chain I know these days, so I had to line up for 10 min to check out. Annoying when they already have your credit card. All in all, wouldn't return...

    « Best Western Gatineau »

Close to everything. Helpful staff. Bathroom was a bit on the tiny side. Restaurant is good and reasonable. Hop On Hop Off stops across the street. For the price, worth the stay. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Gatineau business trip »

The Best Western is conveniently located near the museum (walking distance). The hotel is old and is in the process of being updated, but the price was good. Hotel had a little indoor pool but I did not have time to use it. Did Not like the additional parking fee of $11 per day. Parking should be free if staying at the hotel.

    « It's a broken hotel »

Product and process are broken. I arrived to an unflushed toilet after check in. The plug wouldn't hold my phone charger and the carpet was dirty. I understand I'm paying a discount vs the Laurier but this was very disappointing. I reported the toilet matter and was told, "it's noted". The fitness room had thre machines and the one I tried to use had a broken seat and the single tv on the wall had a sign "out of order". I expressed my disappointment at check out, not looking for a discount or credit since this was an expensed business trip, but rather some acknowledgment of wrong doing. Nothing.

    « Conveniently located »

The hotel was conveniently located and was within walking distance of major tourist destination. Even though it was in Gatineau, it was 15 min walking distance from the parliament hill and other famous tourist spots. Nice park right infront of the hotel. In hotel internet service was pretty good. Great value for price. Indoor pool service was good.

    « Location was great »

Stayed here for 2 nights on a short getaway with my son. Really wanted to stay in downtown Ottawa but most hotels sold out of standard rooms & I wasn't about to spend $500 & up on a suite. Found this hotel & did a bit of researching before booking. We were very happy with our find. The location was perfect.Just a 2min walk to the bridge which takes you into Byward Market area in about 15-20mins.One evening we took a taxi back to the hotel from the Byward Market and that was only $8.00. Parking is $11.00/night better than the $30 in the downtown hotels. We parked our car when we got there and didn't have to use it until we left. We could see construction being done on the facade but really didn't hear anything or bother us. I had read before booking that some balconies closed so I just avoided booking a balcony room. We did have a room with a river view which was nice. We could see the rear of the Parliament Building. I would recommend a river view room.Rooms we're clean. Air conditioning unit a bit loud but cooled the room well.Beds comfy.Shower pressure decent. Found the toilets a little low(not so great if your elderly) Staff were friendly & courteous. We were given breakfast coupons upon check in but soon after getting in our room front desk called asking for the second day coupon back as she had made a mistake. We found this odd. We returned the coupon & didn't bother to have breakfast there with the one we kept. Thus,we can't comment on the food . Overall, we were happy with our stay & would return.

« If your going biking in the area, this place is GREAT »

This is my third stay at the hotel. It is always nice to stay here as it is so close to all the great things in the area. It resides right across the street from the Ottawa River bike trails in Gatineau and a nice walk to Ottawa Parliament Hill and the Byward Market. The beds were great. Most comfy I have slept on in a long time. Too bad I couldn't sneek one out of the hotel :) Had the river view. Was awesome. The staff is wonderful here as well. This was the third trip and only now they tell me there was a parking garage under the hotel. We took advantage of this. Parking is a modest fee per day but well worth it. Not giving it a 5 star just because of a few things here and there, but does not deter the fact that this is a great place to stay. Only thing I was concerned about and hope to resolve is they had charged my credit card on the first night about $90.00 more than the final bill. I have not seen a credit on the difference so I am hoping this will be resolved. Never had a hotel pre-charge me before. The charges came the time I checked in. Very odd.

    « Smokey's Ottawa Trip »

We picked this hotel due to it's proximity to Ottawa and it's location on the water....we were saddened by it's state of repair(being renovated....parking was poor....only room for a few cars....but we were still charged $11 per night parking....pool was very ordinary and somewhat difficult to get to from within the hotel.....also since we couldn't open the balcony door the room had a strong cleaning fluid door

« Good location, good service. »

I have stayed at this Best Western on several occassions while attending meetings in Ottawa. This is an affordable hotel that offers excellent service and a good staff. It is walking distance to parliament hill and it is near the HIstory Museum and the National Museum of Art. I would encourage anyone who wants to spend a few days in downtown Ottawa to stay at this Best Western hotel.

« Beds were slightly soft »

The front desk staff were very friendly. The building has some construction going on. Hopefully, they will be updating the rooms. It was quiet, beds a little soft but comfortable, and rooms were clean. No breakfast like other Best Westerns, also charged for parking, which we were unaware of until arrival. It is in a great location for walking to downtown Ottawa, IF one can walk 2-6 mikes. Once this hotel is completely updated it will be a great place to stay. We had a river view, however, the windows were very dirty.

    « Economical alternative »

Hotel prices in downtown Ottawa scare you off? This hotel in Gatineau Quebec is economical and just a 15 minute walk or a short bus ride across the bridge to the Byward Market and the National Gallery. A stone's throw from the Canadian Museum of History, beautiful views and parks on riverside. Hotel was being updated during my stay but construction was not disturbing and rooms were already done to Best Western Plus standards. Staff very friendly and fully bilingual. Main downside is limited dining and shopping near the hotel.

« Not worthy of the Plus designation »

Hotel under construction, no access to the balcony. AC blows into your face, too close to the proximity of the bed. City view is not quite as advertised. Breakfast is excellent, Staff is very friendly. Underground paid parking not very clean.

« Not the best Best Western PLUS »

Staff for the most part seem to purposely ignore individuals who are not articulate in French with the exception of front desk personnel. Facility dated and shabby. A/C unit in room extremely noisy and Ineffective, and apparently unfixable.

    « Good value »

This hotel is located just over the Ottawa River in Quebec. The view from our room included the back of the Parliament buildings. There is a lovely park just across the street from the hotel. The hotel is under renovation, but access is maintained. The parking is very near (just behind) the hotel - this is good for a city hotel. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The service in the dining room was a bit spotty - they seemed a little short staffed, but the breakfasts were delicious.

    « Just OK »

The good: front desk staff, location, view of the Ottawa River and Parliament buildings. The bad: dirty carpets, crammed hallways and elevators, small rooms, not very clean, not enough parking and tight parking spaces, Resto food not great.

« Great View but Needs Work. »

Beautiful view of the Ottawa River and Ottawa Parliment buildings. Was clean. Great front desk staff. But very difficult for parking during reno's. Overall decent for the price. Walk to many attractions.

    « Good Value,view,comfy bed »

Good choice for Ottawa visit. Our room was located overlooking the river and nice view of Parliament Hill and downtown Ottawa. Bed was king size and very comfortable. Everything clean with small fridge and coffee maker. Has a small restaurant on site and a pool which we did not use. There is a Macdonalds a five minute walk from hotel and small store for beer and wine next door. Some renovations but not too obtrusive. Parking is 11.00 per night and onsite. This hotel is situated right on the bike trails and park plus walking distance to the History Museum. Walk over the bridge to all Ottawa has to offer including Byward market and pay a lot less than downtown. Excellent for runners and cyclists for access to trails.

    « Close to everything »

Great location , rooms dated but very clean hotel , beds new and comfortable with great view of the river , need a better restaurant and parking limited outside . Staff very friendly and helpful and speak English !

« Last minute travel - excellent location »

From the moment I walked in, the staff could ot have been nicer. They made me feel very welcome. The room was very clean and spacious (King bed) and there was a nice view of the river. It was quiet and the beds were comfortable. My only criticism was that if you drive, you have to check in and then go back out to your car to put a ticket on your dash. I was tired and had just kugged alkl my stuff in and had to lug it all with me again. The parking lot is very small, I got the last spot. Not sure why they cant just take your license and do a comparison to a list and the vehicles in the lot.

    « Fantastic Stay »

Had a wonderful time at this hotel! The staff was wonderful and the room was better than expected. We had a nice room with a separate bedroom. It was nice to have a living room area as we were there for quite a few nights. Having a microwave was very nice as well. It was within decent walking distance of all of the things we wanted to do, which was great. It was just a super quick walk to the bridge that takes you into Ottawa. Definitely try the restaurant while you're there. The food was fantastic.

    « Under construction »

GOOD: The location of this hotel is perfect. Right across the river from Ottawa, across the street from a great museum, History museum. There's a park with a nice bike, walking path that follows the beautiful Ottawa River. The pedestrian bridge path that leads to the Byward market in Ottawa. This stay was painful in every way. From the minute of the check-in to my way out the door. The staff know the state of their workplace and try their best to make you forget what you are getting into with their smile. The room was nice, spacious and clean. the view of Parlement Hill was amazing. However, the patio door lead to no patio. Thankfully it was locked and blocked off. Internet was quick and reliable. BAD: To start things off, there's only 30 parking spots in front of this hotel. Depending on the time of day that you arrive you'll have to get a treasure map to find out where the other "lots" are. The path to find these lots are narrow, under construct, poorly lit, not for the squimish, homeless drinking and being sick in the area. UGLY: Finally, inside the lobby has been somewhat renovated, but only has one working elevator. (Don't take the stairs without proper immunisation). The hallways leading up to the rooms are still under renovations. In summary this hotel is located a prime location. The potential is clearly there. Unfortunately, the building is in such a disaray that it would be best to shut it down and re-open once all construction is over. Personnally I wouldn't recommed this hotel for the time being. Considering there are so many other options within distance I would recommend to stay away until construction has been completed.

« Week end in Ottawa. »

Good price (2 night stay). Clean space. Nothing out of the ordinary. It reminds me of a Best Western. We've stayed before in the past, and this is by far a better room. To say one thing, the elevator is slow.... we're top floor, so I'm not taking the stairs.

    « Brad »

I came from Vancouver for a family emergency on a overnight flight. We had no sleep and were in distress. We asked for a room and explained our situation. A rep at the desk seemed sympathetic and checked us in at 100.00 a night plus taxes and fees. After the check in when we were leaving for the hospital the manager came out and said we had to pay 30% more. We had no choice but to agree. That is bad enough. The hotel had no facilities the restaurant was less than poor. It was dirty and under construction. I have only experienced one worst hotel experience and that was in the mexican geto in chula vista. Do not go to this hotel

    « Relaxing stay »

Hotel room was clean, excellent service from hotel staff. Internet was slow in the morning. Great location, easy to find, fairly close to amenities and downtown Ottawa. I will choose to stay at this hotel again in the future when I am back in the Ottawa area.

« Good experience with Best Western »

Nice place to stay, close to different interest points in Ottawa; Byward market, museums, historical monuments. Great view to the river and to city, even in wither with specific room. Great staff and services. Regret not enough time to stay more but probably going back to this hotel in upcoming opportunity.

« Very fair price for what you get »

Family meeting up in Ottawa - the staff was very friendly and the rooms have been well refurbished + nice lobby. We enjoyed our stay. I would also recommend this Hotel for people that have business to attend to in Ottawa - simply in walking distance over the bridge. Great location and a bit less expensive than Ottawa.

    « Very good location »

Helpful staff and very good location to visit the capital. You can walk to Wellington street, where the main attraction places are. Prefer the river view rooms for amazing city sight. We asked the staff for recommendations about restaurants, cafe and things to do, and they were really helpful. Thank you!

    « Hotel Overall »

The hotel rooms were ok, but I found a hair in my bathroom. There were no towels by the pool and only one changing room. The beds were comfortable and the staff were pleasant. The pool hours were very reduced for weekdays but there was a lifeguard available.

    « Too noisy »

The receptionist made us stay at lowest level and with other guests that slammed the door at 3 or 4am. I made a call at 3AM to the front desk and there was no answer. The second time I called the guy was kind enough to come up and notify the guests to keep it down. Overall my experience was not very pleasant.

    « Convenient »

Stayed here overnight for a competition. Ok room convenient but really prices are quite high for the type of place and season. Neighborhood is a tad scarry. All is there but way overpriced. View from our room is cool but room neighbors are super noisy banging doors and yelling in hall. Not hotels fault i agree but noise travels quite a bit. Place is clean and staff friendly

    « Very satisfied »

The indoor pool was the big attraction. We had our daughter and grand daughter with us and it was a good place to spend some time together. We thought the rates at this hotel was right on. If possible, I would recommend that guests be notified in case the restaurant is left closed.

« Poor service and very low professionality, one of the woman in front desk nastasha is an terrible worker. »

Hi, been in the hotel few times, the view is perfect, very close to Ottawa make the place special but some pleople in the hotel not deserve the work, this time was a woman, named nastacia o nastasha, i was asking details about parking and about the pool, i got my answers in very bad mood and not much education, i hope somebody read this comment and hire better human quality for front desk and the hotel in general, the rooms are not the best but we had felt well, insisting in the front desk guy last time really unprofessional Ives if i remember well, and the woman now smiling in my face in french because i dont understand her language, the old guy in the rooms very friendly.

« Stayed on Best Western Points, 3.5 Star Rating »

Visiting Daughter at University of Ottawa. Used 20,000 points per night plus $11 per night parking. Had to park in lot one block away as front parking lot full and pick up truck too tall for underground lot. Don't believe they have complimentary breakfast. Room was on 7th floor facing the city of Ottawa and the Ottawa River. View was beautiful!! Nice large balcony to enjoy the sites. Room was clean and comfortable. Wish they had a multi-outlet to plug electronic devices into on the night table. Only other minor issue was older toilet that hoped for the best that it didn't plug up when I flushed it (it didn't) Quiet neighborhood. Close to all the museums, 10 minute drive to the university, 10 minutes drive to Costco in Gatineau for cheap beer. Would definitely stay again.

    « Best Western - Gatineau »

We stayed one night on the 4th floor in a lovely room looking out over a park, the river and the parliament buildings and downtown Ottawa. The reception was quick and efficient and the employees responded to our request for directions to the TD place (the Brier was on) with cheerful enthusiasm, printing out maps and instructions. The room was large, had a very comfortable king sized bed and was as clean as a whistle. I particularly appreciated the night light in the bathroom while in a strange place. Parking in front of the Hotel is not sufficient for all the guests and provision is made to park nearby outside or in the basement, which is accessed by a surprisingly steep ramp. Once inside the garage, we found it to be poorly lit and the location of the exit door to the lobby was not particularly evident. The restaurant was quite adequate, the service polite and efficient, the hotel quiet and clean throughout. This hotel is very well situated with easy access on foot to many of Ottawa's attractions.

« Genuine top quality service »

The manager and staff at this hotel were very friendly and genuine. Myself and my family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this hotel. The location is excellent and the hotel very functional. The view on Parliament Hill and the river was greatly appreciated as well.

    « Great stay »

Booked this location for it's proximity to the World Cross Country Ski Tour and discovered a good place to stay. Our room was very good and had all that we needed. Front desk staff were terrific, housecleaning staff pleasant. The hotel is close to all major attractions. It looks like there's renovation work going on which can only improve what is already good.

    « Met my needs »

Nice hotel in a neighbour type setting. It's an older hotel under renovation. Staff are very nice and efficient. Restaurant is on-site which is convenient if you do not have a car. Restaurant was quiet and service was quick. Breakfast is not included but full menu for breakfast is available. Did not use the exercise room or pool so cannot comment. If you need a basic room, this will meet your needs.

    « A great stay »

Despite ongoing renovations ( which effect visitors little or not at all) it was a marvelous stay!! The staff at the check in/out were wonderfull. The housekeeping staff were good fun to chat with in passing. Incredible how these people manage to be so friendly while working so hard. Very impressed.

    « Good Rest »

We were in town for a hockey tournament of our grandchild. Didn't stay at the hotel very long. But we can say that it is well located, close to downtown and yet far enough to be quiet. The personal at the desk are extremely sociable and pleasant. They like what they do and it shows. Presently going under renovations, but still quiet.

    « 4 night stay »

Stayed 4 nights while on course. Was there for the big snow storm of 51 cm. They do not do a good job of snow removal from this parking lot. Left 3 days after the storm and got stuck Staff had to push me out. Big shout out to Elana in the restaurant the night of the storm. The cook never made it in but she took charge and though limited menu ensured those of us there got something to eat.

    « Winterlude »

Excellent location if attending the area for Winterlude. It is across the street from one park with a free shuttle to the other locations. Staff were helpful. Parking convenient if you can get a spot in front of the building, otherwise you have short walk. There is a decent sized indoor pool for the kids. Nice view of Ottawa and the sunrise.

« First time and probably last time »

I checked into this hotel with no status with Best Western, I was on a free night stay through the Aeroplan program. Out of the 9 floors stayed on the 2nd floor. Check in & out was very professional and pleasant. has two big double debs, extra pillows, very comfortable, big screen TV. TV is controlled by a normal retail cable customer box in the local language instead of the simplified tv remotes the major chains use. No laundry bag, dated and small room, no plug in for todays teck tools and toys. my son and I felt as we were in a big closet. The worse part was as we tried to sleep in, they were doing renovations in the room next door so that was our wake up call this morning at 8 AM. I stayed in these type of rooms and hotels many, many years ago when I was in my 20's. For budget minded people this is great value, hotel is along the Ottawa river, next to the museum. Parking is $11 plus a lot of taxes. We stayed here because we used points so it was free.

« Surprised we were!! would go again »

Had the opportunity last weekend, to spend an overnight at this hotel. We found a parking spot very near the front door, making it easy for carrying/wheeling the luggage to the front door. These doors opened automatically-that was so nice and easy. Have found other hotel doors have to be opened manually and that is very difficult when you have several pieces of luggage. Pierre, the front desk clerk, at that time period, was very friendly and helpful. The elevators are close to the front desk-handy- don't have to take all the cases down a hall and around a corner. Our corner room had west and south facing windows. The balcony doors were closed for the winter. The room was a good size for the king size bed, reading table with comfy tub chair, the desk had all the electronic plugs and office chair. The television sat on the dresser that also housed the small refrigerator. The washroom had all parts required, including shampoo, conditioner, lotion tubes, sewing kit, and makeup remover pads. The closet had several hangers and iron with board. There was plenty of space to walk around. The rain shower head spray felt good on the skin. In the morning, we ate breakfast in the main floor restaurant (presently only open for breakfast). The usual Best Western Hotel buffet self-serve breakfast was not available. We chose our own seating, the server offered coffee or tea, and gave us plasticized menus, with a large selection of breakfast items. There were so many, it was difficult to decide. My husband enjoyed the waffles topped with strawberries and whipped cream. For me there was a big decision between eggs benedict or bagels with lux, cream cheese, capers, onions-this I enjoyed very much. The good tasting coffee was endless, while we watched some news on the venue television. When we were finished, the restaurant started to fill up with families and couples. Improvements: There are two bed side tables, each with a lamp. But there were no sockets for electronic plugs on the tables or part of the lamp base. Good: We really liked, the ordering from a menu due to the larger choices of food items. WE would go back again.

    « Meh »

From the outside looks like a gross unkept place. Inside not much better. Our bed was full of hairs so we asked for new sheets. The service was great very nice girl at the front desk. I think the $11 for parking is a scam considering it's their own parking lot. Used my CAA cars and got 10% off. I wouldn't stay here again.

« Very Nice Well Kept Hotel »

We had a very nice time. Clean and very Quiet for a Saturday Very comfortable beds.We enjoyed our stay.Had no problems with our check in or with our check out. hotel is under contruction which was kind of a drag seeing how they couldnt provide us with a riverview. They did however upgrade us. Over all a good experience.

    « Excellent Hotel »

For evaluating a stay at a hotel, my priorities are the quality of the room (quality of bed, cleanliness, room's space, and recent furniture) and the staff (always available and smiling) We were in the middle of a winter storm at Gatineau, public transport was impracticable and lots of cars stuck in the snow. But nothing of all this changed the staff and they continued to make us feel at home.

« Extremely comfortable and cozy room! »

Anyone visiting the Gatineau or Ottawa area should stay at this hotel. Our clean and cozy room had been totally renovated, the bathroom was modern and had a rain forest shower-head. We had a river view overlooking the Parliament. The park in front of the hotel had been decorated with thousands of lights for Christmas, it was magical. The outside of the hotel is being renovated at this time but don't let it deter you from staying at this wonderful hotel. The staff were out of their way courteous.

« good for the price »

Hotel interior is outdated, construction work being done on exterior of the building so if you book by internet you are not aware. We were Lucky construction holidays. The beds are very good. Parking fee is 11 $ a day another thing not mentioned on internet site. Breckfast is not included like most Best Western and quite expensive . We opted for McDonald's about 1 block from hotel

    « Worst experience »

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The halls were filthy dirty. The rooms were worse. The bathtub had mould. The carpet in the rooms was so dirty. It smelled terrible. On top of it all, a room on our floor was broken into and the person's laptop was stolen, the television was stolen, and their child's backpack was stolen. The breakfast that we paid for had day old toast, runny eggs, and brittle dry bacon. My van bottomed out on the ramp up to the parking lot. I feel sorry for the staff. They seemed very nice but in a terrible place.

    « Sketch Western »

Out dated this place may have been great in 1960 but with so many new and improved hotels price point might be the only thing attracting anyone to this place. If I was still in high school trying to take advantage of cheap beer at age 18 I'd be in.

    « Welcome Stay »

My wife and I had a pleasant experience at this hotel. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and very friendly. They made us feel welcome the minute we entered the lobby. The location is great being right across the river from downtown Ottawa. They also had parking on site which made everything easier as we did not have to carry our luggage very far and we did not have to drive into town paying and spending precious time looking for spots. The room was great as it was very spacious and clean. Everything worked properly and the beds were perfect for a good nights rest. If you are ever traveling to Ottawa I strongly suggest this hotel.

    « disappointed »

when i go to best western, i think of quality and service. didn't feel so well on this hotel's hardware, just too old.The staff are nice and easy, but didn't like the old style, plus the air conditioning is noisy at work, no hot water kettle in the room and no teeth brush in need to buy your own breakfast at lobby, and need to pay additional $11 dollars for the parking. It feels like a motel to me. where is the cuffy and comfortable BW?

    « Very let down »

    1) Arrived on a Saturday after a 9 hour drive and the hotel was full of kids hockey teams who ran around until 1:30, up & down the stairs beside our room. Complained, hotel didnt do anything. Complained the next day & got free parking for that night. 2) Hotel is undergoing extensive renovation with noise all day. Used to book it - no mention of this on the hotel profile. Complained and got free parking. Parking is 11 CAD/day so it was not much compensation after not being able to use the room all day. I would stay at the Four Points rather than here. Colleagues also stayed at the crowne plaza and they said it wasnt great. For the small savings, i dont think it is worth it.

    « Excellent stay. »

Huge clean room. Free wifi. Great omelette for breakfast. Parking was available outside for a reasonable rate. Just over the bridge on the Quebec side of Ottawa. Friendly staff. You always know what you get with Best Western.

« Great for the price »

I've seen this hotel many times and finally decided to try it out when in town for a regular business trip. I stayed two nights. In general I was happy and it is a fantastic value for the price I paid, which shocked me it was so low. A few notes. On the positive, the room was clean and well maintained. There are spacious balconies. Bathroom was tight but well stocked. There is an indoor pool that is not busy and a business centre with a printer. The wifi was very consistent. The TV had many many HD channels and a very large TV. My room had a full kitchen that was very well stocked. Staff were very friendly and no lines. There is an on site restaurant but I did not try it so can't comment. On the negative, sound travels easily and I could hear everything through the door to the adjoining room. The kitchen could actually be in a museum, especially the stove! Some of the items in the room were only in French, instead of bilingual, which surprised me given this is a US based chain. My keys both demagnetized the first day. Elevators were quite slow. The curtains had stains on them and should be washed (blood or something else similar colour). Half of the building is under renovations so be prepared. Other than seeing workers in the hallway it did not impact my stay at all. I would stay here again!

    « Excellent hotel »

Incredibly large comfortable room. Free wifi. Parking. Good value breakfast: I had an excellent omelette. It was clean and professionally presented. 24 hour reception just over a bridge in the Quebec side very close to Ottawa.

    « Lovely »

Excellent location. Nice view. Good staff. Lovely rooms. Staff was helpful with suggestions regarding restaurants and attractions. Construction was made as inconspicuous as possible. Very comfortable beds. The room was large and comfortable. WIFI was fast.

    « Best Western PLUS Gatineau-Ottawa »

The hotel is ideally located with an excellent view of the Ottawa River and the city of Ottawa. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. There is a restaurant there with excellent food. There is also a swimming pool to go for a swim and relax. Another benefit is having a pleasant park in front of the hotel where you can go for walks along the river.

« Super old noisy hotel pretending to be 4 stars »

Paper thin walls. Noisy. People having parties all the time. Had to change room at 4am because night staff was unable to tell people to calm down.. Breakfast rate forces you to choose one menu option even if you'd like something cheaper... food not fresh. Restaurant staff not real waiters... this hotel is in dire need of refurbs.

« Terrific Staff and River View. »

Stopped in at this hotel on our trip to Canada's east coast. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful checking in and out. Breakfast was very good as was the service staff. Would recommend this hotel to travelers for both single nights or extended stay. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed every minute. Front desk staff were terrific, Natasha has the personality to do well in the business. Bite burger joint, in Byward Market, was recommended for dinner by staff and it was very good. Hotel is close to Parliament and several museums and overlooks the Ottawa River, will stay here again.

    « not what expected »

for the location, web rating and PLUS title beside the name I had much higher expectations. staff are good. rooms are decent. parking is below average and I felt uncomfortable parking a nice car there. some nights there were no spots available and I had to park down the street. older building and lucky to be in a great location otherwise business would be low.

This Hotel is ideal for a trip to Ottawa, very close to Parliament and reasonably priced. The staff are helpful and rooms are clean. We enjoyed a very good breakfast at a very good price. The rooms offer a great view over the Ottawa river.

    « So so »

They charge for breakfast, and charge for parking in an unprotected area. Not the quality I expect from a B.W. plus. The finishes were dated and needed updating. This is a good location but with lots of places to stay in ottawa this is not number one. kekek dududukdkdmgmdkdfmdmms......

« Great Price and Location »

I recently returned from a three night stay at the Best Western Plus Gatineau. The hotel is situated across the Ottawa River from downtown Ottawa, just two blocks from the Museum of History and just steps from the pedestrian bridge to Ottawa. The hotel is a good budget option to the expensive hotels in downtown Ottawa. The parking fees for this hotel are also much cheaper than Ottawa hotels. The desk staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the Gatineau area. I had booked a basic room which had a view of the houses behind the hotel, but as we were busy seeing the sights in Ottawa we did not care. The rooms at the front of the hotel have an amazing view of the park across the street and Ottawa. The room was nicely appointed and the bed was very comfortable. Very clean but small bathroom. The hotel has an indoor pool and an exercise room which we did not use. There is also a small restaurant open for breakfast and dinner. We ate there for one dinner and one breakfast and were not disappointed with the food or service. I particularly liked being so close to the pedestrian bridge to Ottawa. A short 15 minute stroll takes you right onto the parliamentary grounds and the bytown market is only a couple of blocks away. During rush hour traffic we actually beat the bus on our daily stroll into Ottawa. The bridge is popular with both tourists and locals. You also get an amazing view while walking over the bridge. There are also some excellent restaurants within walking distance in Gatineau.

    « Nice hotel. »

Stayed here for one night recently, and it did the job, clean, comfortable and spacious, with a beautiful river view. The bed was very comfy, we slept like logs! Breakfast was good, apart from being served a mouldy bagel! The staff were extremely apologetic and gave me my breakfast free of charge. Good location, ideal for a base to explore Ottawa.

« Visiting our Nation Capital »

The hotel is very convenient. The staff are wonderful. The room is perfect for a quick overnighter. The bed is so comfortable, I'm glad I had plans. Otherwise I could have been persuaded to stay longer in bed!!! Thank you Best Western for making another stay successful!
