Best Western Premier
Our family (3.5 and 8 yo) stayed here for 6 nights to visit family in the area. We stayed on the top floor of the new building, in one of the “executive suites”. Our room had one bedroom with a queen bed and a living room area with high quality sofa bed. There was a toilet and small sink in a separate room from the shower/sink room. This was the ideal layout for our family. It was very new and functional! No bathtub though. That was fine for us but some families may need that feature. The room opened to a lovely deck with chairs, table and stunning view of the Alpspietz. Impressive brunch buffet included in room rate. Kids loved it of course! Lots of little gadgets such as a pancake machine, fresh orange juice machine and butter dispenser for the kids to explore. Service in restaurant was prompt and courteous. Served until 10:30. One morning we slid in with 4 minutes to spare and was chastised by a strict host (stereotypical Bavarian). But it was no biggie as plenty of people were still eating! Kids enjoyed the outside grassy area (picture below) with colorful bean bags to jump on. Pool was okay. Very warm in the pool room- would have been nice if they opened the huge slider window. Sauna is for adults only and very well appointed but be aware that it is co-ed and clothing free (there are towels to wrap up in). There was an odd little hiccup at checkout where they wanted to charge us $50 for a coffee maker carafe that broke on us. But they dropped the charge after we spoke to the manger. There is a little bit of a strict management style when they can't see the forest through the trees. Overall an excellent stay for our family of four.
Arrived in Garmisch-Partenkirchen for first time with friends and their family. From arrival welcome from staff was excellent. Room spacious for a couple with sitting area inside chairs and table outside in patio area. Seating around garden area also well maintained. Facilities excellent to pool steam room robes and slippers in room. Breakfast endless choice just wished we stayed longer than our 2 days. Would certainly like to return.
Was such a pleasure to stay here for 4 days in June. The location is a comfortable 7-8 min walk to the town centre, the rooms are neat and tidy and spacious. The views from the balcony are amazing and the hotel grounds are very well kept. A big standing ovation to the hotel staff, their go out of their way to make the guests feel both welcome and comfortable. The hotel car drop off is a great way to get around the city. Its very convenient and also the GaPa bus stops are close by. The hotel has a Norma and Edeka walking distance. The breakfast is outstanding with a wide variety of cheeses, the best Museli, fresh fruits, pancake machine and a wide range of breads, teas and juices! We can't thank the restaurant manager enough for sending my son his breakfast in the room, the day he was a lil unwell. The wifi is a lil spotty in the room. Loved the hotel and will be back soon!
Great hotel withing walking distance to town. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Guest rooms are average. They have an indoor pool, sauna, steam rooms and massage center. Need to book massage early since there is only one. Breakfast was included in price and offered large assortment of items. The courtyard was simple and relaxing.
What a lovely surprise. Our room had a spectacular mountain view and a nice balcony to enjoy the scenery. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Breakfast buffet was remarkable, everything from eggs.& bacon to a variety of cheeses, meats, fruits, pastries and breads. We had dinner both in the restaurant and bar, both very good.
Loved this place, wonderful location, wonderful rooms, great food, beds were fabulous, okay the pillows were awful, no support, typical European pillows! But the city of Garmisch is just the best city in Germany and this hotel is tops!
We had the junior suite. It had 2 little balconies with a view of the mountains and the courtyard. It had a king sized bed and a pull out couch. The room was clean and the bathroom was adequate, not luxe but clean, not too small, not too big. The staff was very helpful. They had drivers who would drive you to local destinations until 6pm and they also gave you a pass to ride the town buses for free. There were also bikes to rent. The pool was nice. There were saunas but they are 'textile'free (that means naked only) and I was traveling with my 15 year old nephew, so we didn't check it out. I had a great massage with Christina. The breakfast was really good. They have a juicer with cleaned fresh apples, carrots and celery as well as a nice selection of meat, eggs, breads, fish, cheeses and more. It's about a 10 minute walk to town so it's out of the main tourist area. There are restaurants nearby as well as a grocery store and big beverage store for wine, beer water and soda. But really you can drink the tap water here, just so you know. The hotel restaurant is elegant and more geared towards fine dining. The bar at the hotel is not it's best feature but it's ok and leads to a lovely out door seating area where you can enjoy the view and the fresh air. Also, if you want to go to Zugspitze, the front desk sells you a card that covers your trains/gondalas and even skiing there and back.
This is our second visit in Best Western Obermuehle and we are again really satisfied. Clean rooms, great accesories in the room - nespresso, wide range from minibar. New refurbished rooms - and the most important - friendly and helpful staff! We will definitely come back!
Be careful with this hotel if you book through Trip Advisor. I booked for myself and two children, requesting that a sofa bed be available for my younger son. My written confirmation from Trip Advisor confirmed that the reservation was for 3 people in one room. The hotel staff said their system only booked the room for 2 people and I would have to pay an extra 35 Euro per night + tax for the room. I showed them my printed confirmation and they would not change their stance. The desk clerk was polite to me and tried to talk to his manager but to no avail. He said he had worked at the hotel for many years and this happened all the time. Seems ridiculous to fight over 35 Euro when clearly their system has a problem. I will not be back and do not recommend this hotel.
I've never stay at such a beautiful Best Western before; it was gorgeous, the staff were very friendly, and helpful, and the food was delicious. The view of the mountains was spectacular! I loved having my coffee out on the balcony (even though it was kind of cold). There were only a few things that annoyed me a bit. Firstly, they had very few channels that were in English, to be frank, I think they had more in Arabic than they did in English. I went with my 60 year old mother who speaks zero German, so I didn't really care, but she likes to wind down to some T.V. and her options were the BBC or the Disney channel... The other annoyances were more from other guest and don't necessarily reflect on the hotel. This is a dog friendly hotel, so it seems our neighbor left their poor dog in the room alone and barking for hours. It was annoying but I felt bad for the dog being left alone. Additionally, I was woken up two days in a row to kids running around the garden corridor screaming at 7AM. Again, not really the hotels fault, but crappy parenting. Despite a few annoyances, it really was a beautiful hotel and I would come back!!!
This is a very reasonably priced facility with all the BW amenities. you can walk to all downtown attractions, it has lots of parking and the meals are great. If you get a back room, there is a great view and a babbling brook to accentuate the mood. Highly recommended!!
Very nice hotel, centrally located. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The shuttle service to ski areas is really great. Breakfast buffet is outstanding, just ask for omelettes or fried eggs on the side or how about a “pancake-machine” Only minor critic was a poor wifi-connection
Came to visit GaPa with brother for a week in February and had a great time staying at this quaint hotel. The service/staff were very friendly and informative. The hotel location is fairly centralized, easy to get to and is only a short walking distance to the center of town, which was also very nice. Ski passes were available at the front desk to avoid any lines at the lifts. Parking was very convenient and there is also a shuttle service available to get around if you don't feel like driving in the winter. The breakfast was great -wide selection of breakfast foods (pastries, meats, cheeses, yogurts, cereals), juices, and fresh coffee. Overall, we had a very good experience here and would definitely come back or recommend to others.
We travelled to Germany in December , stayed in Munich for 2 nights, then took a short train journey to this lovely special Bavarian town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights.(we wish we had stayed longer) It is a place I highly recommend if visiting. The hotel is very warm and cosy and clean. The staff are very warm, friendly & extremely helpful. From the moment we walked in the door till the day we left the service was top class! We really enjoyed our stay here, we did not want to leave! The view from our hotel room was incredible! We most certainly will be back!
Great location in central Garmisch especially during the Christmas Market. Staff was very friendly and one individual seemed to be the jack of all trades,,,he was our shuttle driver, shoveled the driveway, fixed our safe, brought us a fan and extra pillows, and watched the front desk. We really enjoyed the plentiful breakfast that included omelets made to order. The scenery around the hotel was incredible. I highly recommend this hotel.
best experiences at Zugspitzland. good location, good food, safe parking (outside and inside 15 euro/night), GaPa card very helpful, shuttle available, close to the gas station, Norma, Edeka, very friendly staff
We had 7 days the same breakfast, for one day we had no soap because the cleaning lady has not checked the soap in the bathroom. The hair dryer was broken and i had to talk with 4 people until i received a bathrobe. We received only one bathrobe for children :( we were told that there is only this one ...:(( Personnel not so friendly ... Pool and sauna was the best thing at this hotel. The view in the pool was great! it is located in a good area..with good restaurants around the Hotel.

Thank you for staying at the Obermühle, and thank for taking the time to write this review. We are very sorry that you feel this way about your stay here, and especially about our famous breakfast. Usually, guests are raving about the buffet here. Lots of them say that they have never seen such a large breakfast buffet with so many items. Since we take every guest feedback seriously, I would love to learn more about how we could improve the buffet. Please feel free to send me a personal email to [email protected] with items or services that you have missed for your breakfast. We're also sorry for the broken hair dryer, I only hope that the immediate replacement worked fine. For various reasons, we usually don't offer bathrobes for children, so we tried hard to help you with the one that we have. Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you a happy and healthy new year. Best Regards. Alexander Knödel (General Manager)
A beautiful hotel set at the foot of the hausberg mountains in the zugspitze area. From check in to our very sad departure everything was just perfect. The hotel is close to the train station and they have a shuttle that dropped us off. In fact the shuttle will drop you at the ski base and even assist with the ski equipment rentals and tickets. The rooms are lovely and spacious and have all amenities that you need. Our bedroom door opened up and we played in the snow right there. The views are just magnificent. The spa is blissful and the indoor pool is an absolute treat. Everything is just perfect including the breakfast which has so many options and just delicious. We had a half board option and dinner too exceeded our expectations. I can carry on and on but it's definitely one of the better options for hotels in the area. Depending on your budget it's not the cheapest though. I would definitely recommend and definitely stay again.

This is the most beautiful hotel i ever seen in the county side .. its not a luxury only, its a warm home away from home.. The room was so super and sparkly clean , spacious, super tidy and has all what you need... the balcony is so nice and has magnificent views of the mountains.. The hotel staff been so keen, so respectful, so professional and ready to assist all the time.. Tbe hotel facilities are super.. Breakfast was very excellent
We only stayed for one night, but they sure made an impression. First off, you are offered a beverage (we opted for prosecco) and urged to relax while they complete your check in. We had reserved a mid-level suite, but were upgraded to a newly renovated two-storey sauna suite on the top floor of the new building. It was fantastic, and had 3 balconies with views of the alps and Zugspitze! The pool was such a nice feature to help burn off the kids' energy after a day in the car, then we strolled down the main road and found a charming German restaurant about 10 minutes away. Breakfast the next day was included, and absolutely outstanding. Pancakes, eggs/omelets made to order, custom-blended fresh juices and almost anything else you could imagine! We fell in live with Garmisch and are already planning on returning during ski season one of these years!
We came upon this hotel completely by accident, as we were hoping to stay in a different town. What a wonderful surprise! The staff greeted us with a very warm welcome, gave us helpful information about the area, got us set up with ebikes to tour the region, the pool and spa facilities were excellent...it was all fantastic. On our way back, from Austria, we decided that we did not want to do a 10 hour drive, all in one day, and ended up coming back, even though the hotel was a bit out of our way, simply because we enjoyed the people and facilities so much.
Its a nice quit place and i recommend it for couples but i came with my buddies hah anyways the staff was friendly the room was good they have a parking and internet and have a indoor swimming pool very beautiful
My family and i had the great opportunity to stay and experience this newly renovated family owned hotel for over a week. I must admit, this hotel is a class of it's own, the service is impeccable, the staff is very friendly and well trained, there is no better Reataurant in Garmisch than Reiser's in this hotel and the rooms are large and nice. The view from the rooms offer you a great panoramic view of the alps. What else can you expect!
My husband and I stayed at this hotel as one stop on a road trip throughout Germany. We didn't expect to love it as much as we did. We wish we would have stayed longer! The rooms were modern, clean and beautiful. The private balcony off our room was totally worth it. Also, it was the best breakfast bar we've ever had, especially looking out at the mountain view while we ate. Great service.
From the welcoming drink on arrival to the cereal bars we were given for our onward journey it's hard to see how we could have been made to feel more welcomed. All the staff were unfailing helpful and friendly (and English speaking). This is not just another hotel in an international chain. Our room was spacious with a double aspect and a fast flowing river outside. Breakfast was comprehensive and delicious. The free courtesy minibus to the cog-railway up the mountain was very handy. The hotel is quite but only a ten minute walk or so to the main shopping area and TripAdvisor's best rated restaurant is only a couple of hundred yards away. If we stay in Garmisch again we would only want to stay here.
Though the hotel is undergoing major renovation, we were given vouchers to offset any inconveniences. Staff was helpful and accommodating and we loved the location, which was within walking distance to downtown Garmisch. Agree that Best Western hotels in Europe are far nicer than those in US. Room was newly renovated ~ would recommend a magnifying mirror in bathroom, but that is mere suggestion. All appointments new and modern!
Have traveled a lot over the years and found Best Western in Europe to be exceptional. This hotel has one of the best staffs I have experienced in over 40 years of traveling. Everyone very attentive from check-in to check-out. Restaurant and lounge service and food were excellent. Hotel very nice rooms and kept very well. An excellent value and experience for this area.

Thank you so much for staying with us and for your fabulous review. Wonderful guests like you are our daily fuel to provide great service every day. We hope we will see you again. Best. Alexander
We debated on several hotels but judging by the pictures we decided to splurge and stay at the Best Western. The faculty was great but the hotel was less than we were expecting. Alot older than the pictures make it seem. We were put in two rooms in the attic that were spacious but did not reflect the beautiful rooms in the pictures. While our stay was fine I don't think we'd go back again given all the options in the area.

Dear travelguynate. Thank you that you have stayed at the Best Western 4* Superior Hotel Obermühle. We are sorry that we could not fulfill your expectations for your stay. After both of the hotel's buildings were completely renovated in 2013 and 2015 there were only 4 rooms left that were not remodeled but updated and had a different design than the new rooms. We tried hard to make this clear in our booking engine with displaying pictures and a description of every individual room category. I assume that you have booked two rooms of this category. Have you talked to a front desk clerk and tried to switch to a different room type, while you were at the hotel? The team of the reception and reservations office is usually very helpful with this. The reason why those four rooms were not completely renovated in 2015 is, that as of right now we are building a new executive floor there. The roof came off, and an entire floor was set on top. We are sorry that you did not have the experience that you wished for at the time. Unfortunately, I could not figure out your name and contact details to reach out to you personally. I hope you would give us a second try if you come back to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. If you do, please send an email to me at [email protected] - Alexander Knoedel (GM)
Wasn't sure when I booked this, but it is a great place to stay. Staff is friendly and helpful, and we got there early, our room was not ready, they provided a welcome drink along with sitting down and explaining what to see in the area, what transportation and shuttles are free, and how they can assist with tickets to places you need tickets for so you don't wait in long lines. Great location and our room had a fabulous view. Highly recommend staying here. YOu cant believe how great this place is and is nothing like Best Western in US. they really care for their clients.
A very good hotel in Garmisch. Double room is of good size with firm and comfortable bed. Coffee machine is provided in the room. Good view from the balcony of the room. Breakfast is of good spread and variety with juicer. Free transport is provided for guests to go anywhere in Garmisch which is very convenient. Gapa Card is provided for guests to travel free on public transport. However, location is far away from the train station (1.7km). Check in time was not flexible and strictly from 2pm onward. Guests who smoked at balcony were annoying.
This historical hotel is nearly 400 years old but the rooms were completely renovated with modern conveniences. I stayed in one of the "boutique" rooms and loved the terrace and beautiful mountain views. One of the best things about this hotel in comparison to other hotels my friends and colleagues were in during this trip was the location. It was located in a convenient walking distance to town but not directly in the hustle and bustle. They offered a free shuttle that picked me up directly in front of the train station and offers to take you anywhere in town (during the day). One thing that speaks volumes to the preferred location and outstanding service of the staff is that my friends and colleagues often congregated at my hotel vs the others. Even though they weren't guests of the hotel, the staff often assisted them arranging taxis and providing other information as needed. Breakfast Pro: Absolutely phenomenal and for 5€ it is delivered to your room. Con: 7a.m. is the earliest it's available. Often during my stay I was required to depart for the day earlier than 7 & was disappointed I missed out on their awesome breakfast. I will definitely stay here when I return to Garmisch.
Great place! Starting on the reception desk where really nice man in green fancy vest welcomed us and explained every single detail about hotel and neighborhood. Then the room.. we took basic room and it was very nice. For two no need for bigger. Clean. Bed was comfortable, bathroom big enough. It looked exactly as good as on the pictures. Spa/ fitness area very nice. There are four different saunas and big swimming pool. We went there in the evening and we were alone. It was very suprising, also in the morning I swam for an hour and I was alone. It must be amazing place in summertime when glass doors are open and you can enjoy garden and swimming pool together. Spa area is very clean, I spotted that non stop somebody was checking on towels, removing the used ones and so on.. impressive. For those of you who wonder, (I did for example).. in the room there are bath coats and slippers to use for the pool, free of charge. Breakfast: very good, good choices. Also amazing thing.. you could make your own juice! What's better in the morning then fresh carrot and apple juice made by yourself?! That really impressed me too. Staff very efficient. I loved the room where breakfast was served, enywhere I looked I was like "Wow". In general very nice hotel with bavarian atmosphire. I absolutely recomend.
An excellent hotel in Garmisch. We were welcomed by reception offering help to enjoy all sightseeing in the area with very detailed advice. We were given a spacious, comfortable clean room with good views. Dinner and breakfast was a very high standard with excellent service. Very pleasant swimming pool. Helpful hotel taxi service. 15 min walk to railway station and 8 min to pedestrian centre. Highly recommend.
What a great place!!! When we walked in and began our registration process, the staff provided beer and wine. The view of the Zugspitze in the morning is spectacular. The morning breakfast was the one of the best I have had. The staff was very accommodating. There were bicycles to use to travel around town. We would defiantly return to this hotel.
We had a great time there but Garmisch is just fantastic anyways. Our balcony door was broken the whole time we were there even though we told the front desk. We were also charged extra for our kids sleeping on the sofa bed in our room even though we already paid for the bigger room. We had a great time despite all that but I could understand how that might irritate some people.
We stayed in a family room as part of a European holiday and could not have had a better time here. We arrived late evening after a long day of driving. We were welcomed with a round of drinks whilst our luggage was taken to the room - great first impression. This continued with the room, spacious, well equipped and, as we learned the following morning, a great view. Breakfast was fabulous also - amazing choice and quality, with again great service. The front desk staff also sorted out tickets for the local attractions - nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the restaurant one evening and found this to be just as fabulous too - the waitress really made a special effort with our young children and became their best friend. The hotel itself had everything and was very picturesque both inside and out. I was especially impressed that to get to the block where our room was located could be done from the main reception through a tunnel system. I imagine this would be very welcome in the winter months. This was one of the best stays I've had anywhere, anytime.
while visiting our daughter in garmish we stayed here 2 different trips.1 in winter 1 in summer. our daughter worked at the edelweiss lodge & resort for the military. very clean facility english spoken by desk staff. centrally located close to rental cars, train station, shopping & eateries. we had a great stay both times.
Fantastic staff. Great facility and location. Nice to have customer service as a priority. Couldn't do enough for us. Example at check in we were told to sit in the lobby area so that we could check in while enjoying a beverage which was brought to us while we filled out the registration. Small effort but nice touch.

Not what I expected when I thought "Best Western"! Exceeded all my expectations. Beautiful modern room. Romantic. Literally could lie in our bed and look out the French doors at the beautiful mountains. Great service and excellent breakfast included with room. Located walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores, and just about any sight you'd want to see. We'll do this again.
I stayed in this hotel with my wife for 3 nights in Aug. the hotel is nice from almost every aspect except when it's very busy. Staff become less friendly and the service quality decreases. Its also overpriced, i honestly wouldnt stay in it again.
The hotel was very nice. The check-in was personal and we were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine while we sat on the terrace. They brought our paperwork there to complete the check-in. I had arranged for a treat for my wife in the room for our anniversary which was in place when we arrived in our room. The hotel is a relatively short walk to the town center and they have shuttle service if you prefer. We also had our car and went to some nice surrounding areas. We were able to purchase our Zugspitz summit tickets right at the reception desk which was nice. Breakfast was fantastic. They had a great variety. They had a wonderful selection of loose leaf tea varieties which my wife enjoyed. Certainly one of the nicer Best Westerns we've stayed in.
The check-in was friendly and efficient, and other staff were friendly (shuttle service -free) and helpful from A-Z Room is nicely decorated, small but tastefully furnished. The inside courtyard is spacious with a large green area for relaxing. The terrace adjacent to the bar and restaurant and comfortable and nice for lunch, dinner or just drinks. Location is very close to the town center and easy to reach within walking distance.
First impressions count when starting a holiday and I have to say my heart sank a bit when we entered the town (in an almost stationary queue of traffic) as the hotel is off the main road behind a petrol (a couple side by side actually) station. The car park was full and we had to try and find somewhere to park off site as best we could. The weather was forecast rain for the week (we arrived a Sunday, mid August) and we asked what the policy was if we wanted to shorten out stay by a couple of days. Said we could but we would only get 20% of the cost returned. Hotel was fully booked though. We did have a refurbished room, new looking bed which was actually very nicely done, good quality. It is more a boutique hotel. We supposedly had a family room but it was a normal sized room with an extremely hard sofa bed (kids were complaining and I have to say, it was rock hard). There was very little floor space with the sofa bed out and I would have expected more from a hotel which cost this much for a 'family room'. I would say overall my rating would be good (but there is only an Average or a Very Good rating available - this hotel goes in-between, too expensive for what it is for a very good rating).
Myself and my partner travelled to Garmisch for my birthday last year and stayed in the Best Western - Hotel Obermuehle. The hotel it's self is in a good location, only a 10 minute walk from the center of town where the bars and shops are. Price wasn't overly cheap but you get what you pay for and this was well worth it. The rooms were a little outdated but were due for refurbishment in the next few months whilst the rest of the hotel was modern and tastefully decorated. The balcony was a good size and the views of the mountains were breathtaking. The grounds were beautiful and the weather was that nice we were able to take advantage of the outdoor sun beds and lawns. Food was brilliant, we had breakfast in the hotel each morning with a huge selection to choose from. Sitting out in the sun eating breakfast with those views was heaven! I also had a club sandwich as a snack which was lovely but a little pricey. Dinner was a set menu which was very nice, i didn't enjoy the cold melon and pink peppercorn soup but that was only due to personal taste. Staff were fantastic with fresh bedding and towels daily. We had a couple of questions on how to spend our time there upon arrival and the lady behind the desk got us a complimentary drink, sat down with us and talked us through all the sites and attractions along with providing maps and leaflets. Would definitely stay here again, cant wait to see what the newly refurbished rooms look like!
Beautiful hotel within walking distance of downtown. Hotel is situated between an old mill stream and river that flows through town. Nice walking trails along river. Convenient location for bus to cable car/train to Zugspitz. Delicious breakfast buffet. Heated indoor pool, sauna, exercise room and game room.
Amazing hotel in the center of garmisch, near to a super market and a coffee shop. The breakfast was really tasty but the service is really bad. Our suite is good but old, clean and big enough. The hotel needs more actives. There are some restaurants nearby and a hospital.
This was my third time in Garmisch and rather than use a B&B we decided to try Best Western Hotels again after years of not utilizing them as I had some marginal experience with the chain in B.C.(Chilliwack) some years ago. I was impressed at this hotel and chose during the balance of the trip to stay with Best Western where we could. The Hotel is superbly run with very proficient and helpful staff. Our room was a family unit as we were three in our party and was very clean, roomy and well laid out on the second floor of the second building. The hotel has a modest pool and a passage underground between the Hotel's two buildings which would be very handy in the Winter given that Garmisch is a year around resort. The view of the mountains from the Hotel is stunning and the Hotel itself is quite quiet. During our stay there was a large group of muslims visiting from the middle east and unfortunately their children ran unchecked throughout the facilities which made our experience somewhat difficult. I spoke to the management and they had said that each group that came in from there were provided with allowed behavior which they had agreed to only to ignore and disregard the stated rules of behaviour. Other than this everything was to our satisfaction and parking was provided free at the entrance to our building during our stay. We want to particularly mention the courtesy of the front desk staff who were only too willing toassist us in securing our next hotel accommodation in Breitnau for the next night. A very satisfactory experience and a renewed appreciation of excellence in service.
We arrived in Garmisch Partenkirchen just before 1.00pm and took a taxi from the station to the hotel (8.40 euros) but we could have rung up for the free shuttle bus from the hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were given a very warm reception and we were given offered a free welcome drink while we filled in the paperwork for our guest pass. As we wanted to visit Oberammergau we left our luggage at reception and walked back to the station for the train. (we had a 1 day "Bavaria Ticket" which was valid for train and bus travel within the Bavaria area. On our return to the hotel we were given our room card and told that our suitcases had been taken to our room. WHAT A SURPRISE when we opened the room door - all the bedrooms and the stairs and corridors in the block had been fully refurbished last winter. The large room we had been given was a dual aspect gable end and has been done up to a high standard. The room had been fitted out with a double wardrobe with lots of shelves, a large double bed, 2 seat settee, desk/mini bar and fridge, tv, coffee table and more. The bathroom had two shower heads over the bath with modern fitments throughout. Everywhere in the room was spotlessly clean and tidy. The breakfasts were up to their normal usual high standards and the chefs were in and out of the kitchen topping everything up all the time. The staff here really look after you and Wilfred (the jack of all trades) and Daphne on reception gave us lots of ideas and help throughout the week. The guest pass now includes free travel on the train to Reutte in Tirol as well as free travel on the local buses which run from near the hotel on the main road.

Dear Wigan, thank you for such a great review! You cannot imagine how your feedback motivates the whole team! Thank you and hope to welcome you soon again! Best regards, your host Christian Wolf
We stayed here three nights as I ran the Zugspitze Supertrail in Grainau in June. We liked the hotel very much, good location, great breakfast and nice people. The room was clean and had a nice view. We did not use the swimmingpool and other facilities. We would have liked to stay an extra night, but felt the €190/night (for a Mondaynight) was too much...
Very friendly team, including the resident dog. Great location on the outskirts of Garmish. The hotel has a lovely pool with a view and super sauna and steam room facilities. The breakfast offering was great and the onsite juicer, and loose tea leaves are a nice touch. Great to be able to enjoy a great cup of tea on the European continent. Only suggestion would be to introduce local breads to the selection.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is one of my favorite towns in Germany and the great experiences at this hotel have now further enhanced my opinion of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This hotel offers very clean, modern rooms and spa facilities (sauna, stem bath, infrared room, pool) while the restaurant offers old-world charm. Breakfast (fruhstuck) included fresh fruit, cold cuts, salmon, cheeses, German breads, cereal, hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, pastries, and a variety of beverages including sparkling wine. Also provided for the guests' enjoyment is a heavy duty juicing (no-pulp) machine into which guests can insert the fresh produce provided (apple, carrot, celery) to create custom fresh juice quickly and easily. Also included in our rate was gratis use of electric bicycles which we used to get near the base of the Zugspitz. The hotel is adjacent to a stream which provides soothing sounds. BTW, Obermuhle literally means over the mill; an old mill with a broken waterwheel is on your left as you enter the drive way. This Best Western is just a short walk from the town center but if you need sundries, food, or drinks, there are two supermarkets (Tengelmann and Norma) within 50 yards of the hotel. I am definitely planning to stay here again but not when it's really hot because there is no air conditioning.
Had a newly refurbished room which was very nice. Breakfast was amazing! One where spoilt for choice. Good location with a five minute walk to the center of town. Nice bar! Great lawn with sun loungers and views of the surrounding mountains of Garmisch! Hotel staff very friendly and spoke perfect English. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again!
We had two rooms for two nights, excellent hotel accomodations. The view of the mountains from our rooms was fabulous, the first night it rained so we had dinner and drinks at the bar, the service was very good and friendly servers, one was very talkative. We saw the town and went to the top of the mountain the first day, we started early which was good, clouds moved in by 1:00 so the view in the morning to the top was clear. We purchased our passes at the hotel, thank goodness, the lines at the tram to buy tickets was quite long when we got there, thanks to the hotel staff insight.
Had a nice room with a balcony, and the hotel was located well, very clean and comfortable. Stayed half board and the Evening meal was very wholesome and as we are just little people a bit big (Its 4 courses) although very pleasant and menu changed every evening thus introducing us to meals that we may had not considered. This was high dining. The hotel was very efficient with staff moving around at an amazing rate of speed, but slowly the smiley side came out. It was at this hotel that I was introduced to Sekt (German Champagne) which became my drink of choice whilst travelling through Germany. Good pool and I enjoyed the sauna and steam room on the first day, however on my second visit it was full off relaxed europeans without any clothes on - I retreated with my British angst. The gorge is worth a visit, however we paid 120 Euros to go up the mountain (Zugspitze) but unfortunately the cloud base was low and no views available. Still trying to decide whether it was worth it !
We stayed at this hotel for one night and ate in the restaurant. The room was excellent and the general ambience was very good. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The dinner was well prepared and served. Breakfast was a buffet, but there was an excellent selection and I feel that it would cater for all tastes.
Very nice hotel; friendly staff and a good location with easy parking. This is the best breakfast buffet in Europe!! Including eggs, sausage and bacon! They also have a large indoor heated pool, and a sauna. We planned on spending one night here on our drive along the Alpine Road; but after doing Zugspitze (spectacular; but catch the first 8:45AM train to beat large crowds) and Fussen Castles, we returned to Garmisch for the night and next morning's breakfast. The first night we had a suite with a balcony; the second night a regular (much smaller) room, with a balcony. In retrospect, after stopping in Bad Tolz the next day, I would select this location for our stay (a hotel near Old Town). Many more streets for walking, touring, shopping...
staying in this Hotel left us somewhat baffled... The Hotel wants to be a 4star and you can see that being the case when you speak to the very friendly staff or when you enjoy the really good breakfast or if you use the nice pool. But there were certain things which were just weird. We stayed in one of their studio rooms in the adjusted building. Room was as spacious as expected and had a nice balcony but bathroom looked dated with its brown tiles which reminded me somehow of 70s movies. The carpet looked old and was stained. Really not 4 star quality... Now the first issue: the room had a little kitchen area (fridge, cooking hobs and sink). Just the water didn't work in the sink. We were traveling with a baby and would have liked the water in the sink to work. The weird thing was that the receptionist didn't know what i was talking about when I told him. He had no clue that that room has this cooking facilities and it took a few moments until he understood what i meant. That was weird. I do speak German (native) so it was not a language thing. He might just have been a bit slow understanding. But anyway he assured me after a while that a technician will look into it. Unfortunately even after our departure two days later it was not fixed. But how weird that the staff don't know their rooms. Second thing: We arrived late, were hungry and wanted to use room service. We searched but could not find a room service menu. Actually we couldn't find any information on the Hotel. No book/folder or other kind of information about the Hotel, the Spa/pool, the surroundings, room service - nothing. The only thing we got was a folded check card size flyer where at least was written when breakfast times are. So after calling the front desk they told us there is no menus in the rooms but we can order from bar menu and he will guide us through the menu on the phone... ?? after asking if we could order from the restaurant menu (not bar menu) that request was denied but after a short discussion someone actually came to the room and brought up a restaurant menu. Wow. Now we had to call again and were put through to the kitchen or bar where some really bored and uninspired person took our order. Food was fine but way overpriced. The tray with the used dished was never cleaned away and stood there in the kitchen area until we departed two days later (really?)... But what is the story with not having any information on the hotel, spa, pool, restaurant aso. in the room? weird. third issue: heat. The room was just insanely hot. we were sweating and the baby didn't go to sleep. Telling the receptionist he said there will not be any technician to look at it (as it was evening time). Obviously we could turn down the heating ourselves in our room, which we did but some kind of underfloor heating still stayed on constantly. so warm i could feel the warm pipes through the floor. The receptionist tested the adjusted room and said it was fine. he offered another room but it was too late moving with all the stuff and the cranky baby. He said he will leave a note so the staff will look into it the next day. Unfortunately that message seems to got lost so we had to tell yet another person about the problem and what we can do. Now this different person didn't seem to know their rooms either as she had no clue if we could turn the heating down or not (which we had tried unsuccessfully already anyway. Just weird she didn't know). Anyway she assured us the technician will have a look during the day. Unfortunately we had to ask another two times which really tested my patience) until the technician came late late afternoon and fixed whatever was wrong. Weird. By the way it was so hot the first night that we couldn't sleep. For the rating of the sleeping experience: first night was terrible (no sleep due to heat) - second night was average, which makes it a poor overall sleeping experience. Now I am usually not a complaining person but for how much the Hotel charges for their rooms I did indeed expect a nice untroubled stay. Unfortunately there were some issues which just let the whole hotel and experience down. I would have made some suggestions at checkout but since that was a rather rushed affair and the lady did not even ask us if we enjoyed the stay (nor did we get an apology for the inconveniences at any stage really) I left it at that. So if I read other comments on how nice and modern their rooms were i cant say that for the studio. But the staff is definitely friendly but ineffective. Breakfast was great but the overall stay for that money was not good. Either they lower their prices massively or fix some things to justify those prices. But for us it was just a weird, overpriced experience.
We were there with a Group of nine family members of each age and everyone of us very much enjoyed the stay. The rooms, spa and Lounge bar seem to be brand new and are fashioned in a modern Alpine style. The helpfulness of the staff and the shuttle service are unique.
Close enough to walk to downtown Garmisch, beautiful during Thanksgiving time when they have the Glu wiein stands up. This hotel had a great breakfast and the rooms give you the feeling of staying in a cabin, the balconies were great for views of the cute pond in the rear which was most beautiful covered in fresh snow. you can see the zugspitze from the balcony in some rooms.
Our staying at the hotel was wonderful! The staff was friendly and helpful all times. The breakfast was wonderful: we could even make our own apple/carrot/celery fresh juice every morning!! Location was great, clean room, great facilities and swimming pool. I highly recommend!
Hotel was all that we expected. The wellness and pool were great, breakfast delicious, and what made a big difference was the shuttle service, which allowed us to get quickly and directly to skiing slopes and back. All this made it easy to have a perfect ski experience with maximum ski hours.
My family and I stayed here for three nights for our ski week and couldn't have been happier with the service and the room. Our check-in was completed as we enjoyed welcome drinks (prosecco and hot chocolate). We found the staff to be unfailingly friendly and helpful with every question or request. We made use of the shuttle services frequently and found the driver knowledgeable, prompt and very accommodating. The service is the real highlight of a stay here although everything else was great too. The room (we stayed in a junior suite) was spacious and the pull-out sofa was comfortable and large enough for two to sleep easily. The view from the balcony was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. The pool isn't huge but it is warm. An additional bonus is the proximity to the grocery store (next door)- we had a few simple, self-catered meals as a result. We recommend without reservation and hope to return again ourselves.
Central location, great staff, excellent food, lovely boutique room. The best thing about this hotel was the willingness of the staff to help, no matter what the query was. Facilities are excellent and the central location makes an easy walk into town.

Dear guest, thank you very much for this excellent review and the emphasis you placed on the attentiveness of our staff. We are constantly trying to improve our facilities such as our wellness area which will be our next renovation project. It would be great to host you on your next trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. BEST regards!
I have to start with the shower. It was walk-in, huge, rain shower and handheld shower heads... I need one in my own house. The rest of the room was very good, also. We had views of the mountains with a little balcony (complete with chairs and table), the room was very spacious and clean. The small bar felt intimate, and the front desk gave us a complimentary welcome drink token upon arrival. I hope to return someday in the summer.

Dear Mags2155, Thank you very much for this great review! We are very happy to see that our newly renovated rooms find the approval of our guests as well as our services. We are looking forward to welcoming you in summer again!
We found this hotel by chance when we arrived at Garmish on our Black Forest roadtrip in October 2015. Fortunately they had availability for my husband and I and we were accommodated into a nice double bedroom with a queen bed, good wifi and clean bathroom (although smallish). The hotel looks like a mountain lodge (not a typical US Best Western), is divided into two buildings, one of them is renovated, the other I guess is not (choose the renovated building if you can afford it). The property has a lovely garden, indoor pool and spa area. They offer two restaurants, one a la carte (we chose this one - dinner was very good, although service a little slow) and another with a fixed menu. Buffet breakfast was complete and well served. While not in the heart of downtown Garmish, this hotel is well-located and I understand there is a shuttle bus to shops in downtown. Complimentary parking is close by. It was a short visit, on a rainy evening, so we couldn't explore the hotel surroundings much. However, we enjoyed our stay!

Dear LaHormiguitaViajera0, Thank you very much for your time writing this nice review about your stay at the Obermühle. We are glad to inform you that the rooms in both parts of our building are renovated (in 2013 and 2015). Concerning the standard of our service in the restaurant we are now about to improve procedures. Nevertheless we appreciate the positive comments about the quality of our dinner. We are looking forward to welcoming you again. Maybe the next time you will have the chance to use our complimentary shuttle service to visit the beautiful surroundings of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. BEST regards from the whole Team of the BEST WESTERN Hotel Obermühle
We stayed for 3 nights at this lovely hotel. Rooms ate renovated spacy and very bright. Service is proper and breakfast very good. Especially the pastry is amazing. Very convinient located and overall good value for money. I would go again

Dear guest, thank you for your great feedback! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay that much! Furthermore we would like to inform you, that the second buliding has been also renovated in December 2015 and is open to book for our guest now! We hope to welcome you soon and sending best regards from the alps, Christian Wolf - your host
Horrible experience. We thought we booked a large family room in a luxury hotel. At the check in we have been given a ugly dirty room, old damaged furniture, bathroom from the 70s - a 2 star hotel room in Germany is usually much better. I complained that I was ready to leave and I have been given a modern Junior Suite; a nice room but suitable for a couple rather than for a family. The room sofa was turned into a sort of bed, not a good one. The main bed was good instead. BUT: despite the embarrassing first assignment we have been asked a €500 overcharge for the change. General service and care to clients was poor: room cleaning was questionable, soaps not refilled, few towels. After 3 days in which the 5 of us were squeezed in the Junior Suite for 2, we decided to leave and we have been charged the staying for 7 days with a discount on the 3 nights not used by 20%. At the check out the hotel manager dared to ask a payment for the New Year Eve dinner we pre-reserved (with a non binding request) when we booked our "luxury" vacation; when I refused the manager first threatened me with some legal argument and then she gave up when I kindly suggested she could sue me but I was not going to pay that amount, never and ever. For the rest: the Hotel has been completely refurbished but the 3rd floor on the second building. Always avoid rooms in that floor. Refurbished rooms seem okay but small. Lifts are small and old and require long waiting. The half board restaurant is nice but cost over €50/head, the a la cart restaurant is very small and over-rated, prices are still high but more reasonable, service is just okay, you may wait 40 minutes for a dish. Nice pool, parking only outside, decent breakfast but again with poor service, not really customer focused. If you want to go to Garmisch and find another option, go for it I would also encourage TripAdvisor to challenge the Certificate of Excellence recently assigned. There must be a mistake.

Dear dtraverso, Thank you for taking your time to write about your experiences during your stay in our hotel. Getting a feedback from our guests is always seen a chance to improve our standard of service. First of all I would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations during your stay. Nevertheless having a contract always means to meet the claims of both sides. And difficult situations could be handled the best if both sides are working together. We definitely reject the accusation of threatening someone as this does not correspond to the facts. Judging the costs of our 5-course dinner menu without even having tried it seems untenable as the menus contained specialties like lobster. Despite all that we appreciate the positive note concerning our panoramic pool. The Certificate of Excellence awarded by TripAdvisor approves the quality of our product over the last few months and we are very proud of this appreciation. In conclusion I re-emphasize that we highly welcome constructive criticism to meet as much expectations as possible in future and to constantly improve our level of quality and service. Nonetheless we hope you and your family had a nice New Year's Eve and we wish you all the BEST for 2016!
Stayed here when travelling with another couple around Germany. Cold water shower first morning but when told reception, they immediately moved us to a Junior Suite with the best views of the surrounding mountains. Made use of the shuttle bus to take us the short distance into town and a phone call for the return journey made the visit on a very rainy day enjoyable. Bed was extremely comfortable and facilities very modern and clean. Would stay here again.
After a long and cold day outside we were happy to arrive to Obermühle. The hotel is decorated as a typical bavarian style but the rooms and the wellness area are modern. The wellness are is great with different kinds of saunas (we are from Finland so we know what is good sauna ;)) and relaxing atmosphere. The staff was super friendly and the breakfast was very good. We loved to stay here and will definitely come again.
We stayed for one night in their boutique room. Very nicely redecorated: clean, modern, practical, espresso machine, great breakfast and very friendly staff throughout the hotel. We liked the modern on the inside, mixed with traditional touches in the reception area and outside. We would definitely select this hotel again for a next visit to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Location is perfect to walk to downtown as well.
The first floor king suite was very clean and modern with a practical design. Plenty of wardrobe space, wood floors, big double glazed windows and large sliding door to balcony gave great views and natural light. I also liked the large shower with 2 different shower heads, rain head shower and standard adjustable. Nice small touches include: free wi-fi, well stocked mini bar and coffee machine with a selection of coffee packs, good bed linens, towels and soaps. STAFF = 10 out of 10! Really excellent, friendly staff - thank you! COURTESY SHUTTLE = 10 out of 10! A very handy, efficient and FREE service. FREE BREAKFAST BUFFET= 9 out of 10 - very tasty and wide selection of food!
we stayed 5 days at the end of August unfortunately it was hot with no a/c and no net at the balcony door it felt like sleeping in a sauna.rooms with ikea like furniture with flat screen tv, compl. hot drinks and safety box, good spacious bathroom and superb balcony nature view.friendly informative receptionists . average breakfast buffet with rarely smiling rest. staff . free outdoor parking. located at 15 min walk from downtown with neighboring supermarkets ( closes at 8 pm ) . Beyound it a riverside walking path.
We love the Obermuehle for location, staff friendliness and the breakfast. While we aren't crazy about some of the modernization which has taken place as far as room atmosphere - we liked the old Bavarian look better - we will continue to choose the BW Obermuehle whenever we travel to Garmisch and always recommend it to friends.
This wonderful hotel offering very comfortable and clean rooms with good atmosphere . The hotel have great view over the mountains and close to town center . It perfect place for holiday . The staff very friendly .Parking is free , I will come back .
During this two month vacation we stayed at 14 hotels in 3 countries, including 3 Best Western properties. Without a doubt this is the worst hotel we stayed in while in Europe. Wifi 4.2 down but only .80 mbps up too slow for internet and skype to function for outgoing calls. We booked an economy room #209 , with old furniture plywood cabinets and the furniture was in very poor condition. When my wife tried to open the closet door it fell on her as the track was no longer screwed into the plywood frame. See attached photo. The corner rotunda was filled with large table making space unusable. The Mattresses sagged in middle and needed to be replaced. The room required a deep cleaning and the curtains were soiled from use and age. Bathroom was small old and in bad shape needs update. No wash cloths. Tub shower was previously broken and handles were partially removed and replaced with cheep external faucet and hose connection to save on plumbing cost. Old black rubber drain stopper was provided for tub as original obviously broke and had been removed. Plumbing was not pressured balanced and continually switched from hot to cold. Good breakfast but the dinner was over priced at 29e so we ate down town. Parking area not large enough to accommodate all guest and we were forced to find a spot on the street away from the hotel. We paid 109e per night and were way over charged for based on quality this was a 40e room. They did not show us the room in advance, and we could not cancel as the hotel has a 4 day cancelation policy. We were told a renovation is scheduled for November but we will not be back to this hotel. Had the hotel disclosed how bad the rooms were we would have stayed right down the street at the 4 star Hotel Rheinischer Hof. which had better facilities, spa and pool and was only 115e per night or 6 euros more per night that we paid to sleep in a dump. Don't get taken like we did. Keep on Driving!!!!

Dear Richard, Thank you for completing the survey regarding your recent stay at our property. On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations during your stay. As you already were informed renovation works will start in a couple of weeks. Nevertheless I would like to comment on some points. In our opinion judging services you did not use should not be part of constructive criticism. Some services are available on demand you would have found these information in our guest information folder on the desk in your room. We would have been glad knowing about this earlier, so we would have had the chance reacting on this in site. Despite that I hope you had a great trip to Europe and a save trip back home. In case you will consider staying in Garmisch-Partenkirchen again we will be glad having the chance to show you our renovated rooms and provide you with a superior experience.
We expected a bit better accommodation, since it was below standard to the required considering the rating of the hotel. Overall not a very positive experience, and was expecting more out of our night in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Do not recommend for long stay, perhaps for a night or two only.
