Our charming hotel has an ideal location, only 30 meters away from the lake, the boardwalk, the Zeppelin museum, and the harbor. Approximately 800 meters to the conference center Graf Zeppelin and 2. 5 kilometers to the trade fair center and to the Friedrichshafen Airport. We offer you modern comfort, professionalism, and friendliness. We also offer high-speed Internet for our guests. For your well-being cares the fine breakfast buffet, as well as our exquisite restaurant serving national and international specialties as well as large variety of fine wines. Our restaurant is recommended by Gault Millau (14 Points 2010), Marco Polo 2010, Gusto and BIB Gourmand by Michelin. Enjoy your stay.
We booked a few days at this hotel and when we got there found out there was no air conditioning (temps in the high 80's to mid-90's) and that we would have to drag our bags up flights of stairs to get to our room. We decided to pass on the room and were charged for full rate for the room even though the issues were not evident when we booked it. The receptionist was surly and near rude. I do not stay at BW often and this experience moves the chain even further down my coice list.
This hotel was very close to the lake and a good place to stop on our way to Austria. The rooms are spacious and open to a quiet pedestrian street. Beds were comfortable and breakfast was really quite good. Good value.
My room did not look like the pictures. It was much more out-of-date. The bathroom was modern and clean although a bit awkward. But still nice considering this is an old building. I was charged for room + breakfast although the booking said no breakfast included and I did not take breakfast. Also at check in I was not told about breakfast. This was removed however, after I explained. The front desk staff had hard time speaking english. I do not expect english speakers if the hotel is not geared for international travelers, however, this hotel has a lot of international travelers, therefore, the staff should be able to speak/understand english moderately. PROS: location very close to waterfront in the middle of the downtown. You can drive up to drop off luggage and then go park. CONS: not very nice and not that helpful front desk staff. No parking at the hotel - closest structure is 6 minutes away. If you have heavy luggage, it is hard to get it to your room even if you can get it dropped off by the entrance - the hotel has steps to get to elevator to get the rooms. The room was fairly outdated and very tight. The sound travels from other rooms easily so you can hear when your neighbours down the hall are showering or sneezing. I was on the 2nd floor all the way in the back, but could still hear the front door opening/closing. Better insulated room doors would be helpful.
Excellent location to the waterfront restaurant and attractions. The room was clean but lacks air con. This is not a problem if there is a breeze, otherwise, the room could get stuffy. Our room was in the second building. The exterior door did not lock behind you unless you pushed the door shut. Breakfast was good but not remarkable. We took the ferry from Switzerland, so, I have no comment on the car park. Wi-fi worked as expected.
I stayed at this best Western property when I was in Friedrichshafen for business. The hotel is well centralized and within walking distance from the observatory tower of Friedrichshafen. Being a diamond select I received a nice room on the first floor which was quite spacious. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was the fact it was dusty all over the place so the first thing I did was grabbing a towel soaked with water and cleaning the place... that was awkward. Breakfast was decent. Gym was like from the 80's with really old machines but hey at least there was one. Refreshments were also available on premise. Reception staff was nice other than one guy, who seemed to own the place (?) which was always very rude and upset when being approached. The room was quiet, bad was comfy. Overall nice hotel, but not so hygienic since it seems like no one cleaned it for weeks prior to my stay. What a shame.
Nice area surrounding but... Park suggested where to left car at 500 m: too far if you have a trolley with you (who doesn't ?) and the downtown is paved with little stone tiles. No elevator. No air condition. Hotel room unbelievable dirty: webs on the wall, dirty floor and dirty carpet, ruined chairs. How can you manage and hotel like that ?!
This hotel offered clean comfortable rooms and very friendly service. Breakfast was very good. What made this superb was where it is sited. Just 300 yards from the town centre and 400 yards from the lakeside. Fantastic walk along the side of the lake. The town itself is well worth spending time to have a good look around as well.
If you're used to BW and german high quality standard in combination with sense for order you'll be the most probably very disappointed. So I was when I visited the hotel this October. Personal at reception was very disorganized and unprofessional and provided key from room that was not prepared after the last guest. Therefore I had to get another room which was prepared but quite unclean - furniture, carpet etc. In short, I have visited the hotel 5 times over the last 2 years but I won't choose it for my next visit.
Stayed in the BW Hotel Goldenes Rad Hotel last night. Booked 3 rooms on booking.com but when we checked in they claimed we only booked 1 rooms, despite having the confirmation to show the receptionist. “Luckily” they had 2 rooms left, so we thought we could relax. Oh how I wish we had to change to a different hotel. Most of the hotel rooms are in a building over the road. This building has one very small, dodgy looking lift and a very dimly lit spiral staircase. We paid £95 (€109) for each single room, including breakfast for this 4* hotel. In all seriousness, £15 would have been too much. The room was awful. The only positive you could say is that the bedding was spotless. The carpet is as thick as a sheet of A4 paper with no underlay, and is covered in suspicious stains (see photo). The bathroom was awful, the shower was a joke, no hot water and it only ran at a trickle, unless you are happy with a freezing cold shower. The radiator in the bathroom was minging (see photo). There are metal shutters on the windows that you can close but then makes you feel like you are inside a prison cell. The walls & door are paper thin so you can hear everything from the rooms next door and the corridor. Went to breakfast this morning but it's far too small for the size of hotel and there wasn't any free tables. To call this hotel a 4**** Hotel is an insult to other 3 & 4**** hotels and also an insult to people who stay their expecting a 4**** Hotel. I have never stayed in a 3* hotel which was not superior to this property. If I would have given a 0/5 review I would have done so. Please book a different hotel in your visit to Friedrichshafen
Room was very basic with no aircon which is unusual for a hotel advertised as four star, the temperature was mid thirty's when we were there, we ask for a fan which was going to be placed in our room but it never arrived, the actual room was in a separate building so we had to go across the street for the hotel breakfast, luckily not raining, overall very disappointing.
Although this a great location there is much wrong with this hotel. The worst is the bathroom. It has old fashioned high, deep and curved bottomed tubs. They are dangerous to get in and out of to take a shower. Then there is the water heater problem. The desk said they knew about it and were trying to work on it. On my last two mornings my showers were in cooler than tepid water. Very unacceptable! Most of Europe has no air conditioning, but this hotel has no screens and it is on a fly infested beautiful lake, the Bodensee. If you open the window for fresh air the flys are in your room. They did provide us a fan on day three. I would not stay here again.
Great location in the center of the main street of town - one short block from the promenade along the water - Lake Constance. Very quiet even though in the middle of everything. a few blocks from the Zeppelin museum. Nice breakfast and well kept up property.
Small hotel, large rooms, but lots of signs of wear and tear. We stayed one night, room was noisy and no elevators, stairs showed lots of tears on edges. Restaurant was nice for breakfast, nice European selection od cold meats, cheese and smoked salmon as well as cereals and yogurt.
Small and basic room (very small shower room), looking a little in need of refurbishment in places (nothing major - marks on carpet, chipped shower tray, flickering bulb in shower room), but comfortable bed, and I slept very well. Really good breakfast buffet, friendly staff.
Nice breakfast and great staff! very helpful of them to assist to shift my luggage down from the 4th floor, since there were no elevators at the main building. The breakfast was also something that one should look forward to :)
Excellent location within walking distance to all sight seeing locations. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of variety to sooth every body. Would highly recommend this hotel however do mention if you have mobility problems since elevators are not available. They do have rooms on the ground level. Will definitely be back.
The hotel is located in the center the city in the walking area. The room was cleaned and recently revamped with a view of the shower from the bed (glassed wall). As located in the center, some noises in the street start at 6:30am and during summer Windows need to be kept open as no air conditioning. For a 4 stars hotel, the air conditioning could be part of the Equipment. As we stay during summer with beautiful weather, the fact that sauna was closed was not an issue but this service should be available at other time. Nevertheless, we got a very nice stay at this hotel and enjoy the room as well as the breakfast which is complete.
Would hesitate to recommend this hotel to anybody. Lacked ambience, staff commitment and modern facilities. Very cold reception while checking in and no help with any local directions. Terrible wifi connection and very dated property.
The Best Western is located in the heart of Friedrichshafen. A short walking distance to everything of interest. The staff is very helpful. When we arrived the the young lady receptionist indicated where to find the tourist agency to help us plan our stay. The room suited us just fine. Ours was spacious and it was clean. Sound proofed with a mini bar, well working WiFi and a safe. There are actually two buildings the main one and the annex. The annex does have an elevator. So why the average rating? Because there is no air-conditioning and this makes it very uncomfortable at night when you have to leave the widows open... you get all of the street noise..especially at 7A.M. when the street cleaners come in. The windows are double. When closed they do block out the noise pretty well but air conditioning would really help to get a good night's sleep...which we didn't get. By the way, the breakfasts are pretty good
What was described online was far from the reality. It has no great views of the Bodensee , instead most of the rooms faced into a garbage collection point and office buildings with absolutely no privacy. This hotel is not worthy of its star rating. With no air conditioning , a faulty lift and a highly inadequate breakfast (nothing hot provided , just cereals and fruits and confectionary) , we were most disappointed!!
We had trouble finding the hotel and the parking is not exactly "on site" as described. Staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival. Rooms rather stark and austere- reminded me of student digs albeit clean-ish and with all you really needed. Big down side was drilling and banging in the building that started early and seemed to go on all day. Restaurant (in main building) nice and with decent menu. Breakfast very good too.
We stayed here for 3 nights and it was a mixed experience. The hotel had a separate 2nd building with more hotel rooms but this had no facilities at all except an elevator and the sauna was out of order. The breakfast room was a bit small, specially when all rooms are occupied. The staff was friendly but did not make much attempts to really makes us feel at home here. I doubt whether this hotel really meets the standards of a Best Western franchise. The parking was in a public car park not too far away and getting luggage in and out of the car could be done parking in the pedestrian area. Another thing to mention is that you do not need an alarm as the church bells will certainly wake you up, starting at seven in the morning. But the location was good and many activities in the proximity of the hotel.
I booked a single room last 22nd March and the bed was too small and in a building of a behind street ( not the same building of Goldenes Rad Hotel ) . Bad and old standard . I will never book in this hotel
Old fashioned hotel, you feel a bit like back in the 70's. Reception staff friendly. Room was midsize, but with a large bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, all you need for a good start into the day. Location also very good, in the pedestrian area of Friedrichshafen.
I've just returned from a business trip in Friedrichshafen and wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed it and staying at the best western. This hotel is right in the middle of a 'quaint' town and just a 1 minute walk to the beautiful Lake Constance. The hotel is immaculately clean. You are greeted by very pleasant staff and accommodated really well. My room overlooked the cobbled streets and boutique shops of all kinds - fashion to books - great. The room was spacious with all amenities. A lovely stay and I'm going to go back for a long weekend with my family.
Conveniently located in the centre of town and a very easy drive from the airport. Car hire with Hertz was simple as usual. Do make sure you have excellent directions to the hotel and car park before arriving as you have to drive through the pedestrian areas to reach the hotel. The room was functional, clean and tidy but nothing really special.
A nice clean and well furnished hotel. I didnt like the idea that the hotel itself is separated from the reception. Very clean and please note that the shower is visible to all. No screen.beds were one of the best i had in any hotel. Recommended.the zeppelin museum is right next to the hotel and so is the pedestrian zone.
I have stayed here twice now in the lakeside rooms. Very modern rooms overlooking the lake. Sofas and tables over by the huge picture windows. Very comfortable beds with a choice of duvet or sheet. Nice bathroom spoilt by a curtain instead of a door to the shower. If you have the shower on at a good strength you flood the whole bathroom. Very quiet rooms with air conditioning. I have not stayed in the main hotel. Buffet breakfast is good. These are the views from my room - 702.
Friedrichshafen is a beautiful place to visit with lots of character, things to see, eat, etc and thoroughly recommended. My visit was for business so I was after a quiet and comfortable room. Unfortunately, I was in a small room, which overlooked the street which was noisy until midnight to 1am and awoken at 6ish with street cleaners and rubbish vehicles. There was no air conditioning which further made sleeping difficult. The Windows didn't let much air in just noise from the street. The interior is a little dated and could do with a little overhaul but not awful. Continental Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and tasty. I will probably look for an alternative place to stay in the first instance before returning with work later this year.
This is a nice hotel with modern clean rooms and a good breakfast buffet. The staff was polite and professional with good knowledge of the local area and businesses. The double rooms is spacious and modern, the single rooms is equally spacious for one person. Toiletries was plentiful and the daily cleaning was good. When two of the people in our group became ill there was no problem getting extra help and excellent service from the staff at the hotel! The breakfast buffet had everything you need to start the day successfully :-) The staff at the buffet was nice and service minded. The only drawback with the area the hotel is located in is the church bells that started at 07:00 and went on for the whole day until 22:00ish... The longest ringing was just over six minutes in one stretch!!! So bring earplugs if you want to sleep any longer than 07:00
Couldn't fault this hotel or the staff. Friendly and helpful from the outset - language barrier makes no difference at all. Nice clean and well kept room and a lovely breakfast to start the day. The hotel is spread across a a few separate buildings within the town but they are all within a stone's throw of each other and are only accessed via a swipe card arrangement. I will certainly book there again when next in town.
We stayed in the seaview rooms in the modern building across from the main reception area. The view was wonderful. However, the room did not seem overly clean, especially the bathroom but I wasn't sure if the surfaces just had been damaged and were really clean. Our main complaint is the glass wall for the bathroom in the middle of the room -- when someone gets up in the middle of the night, the light lights up the room through the glass wall, especially since there is no separate light switch for the toilet room. Also there was no place to lay a suitcase -- no shelf in the closet or bench. It seemed crazy to have 2 desks but nowhere to place a suitcase! So if you wanted to hang your clothes instead, there were only 2 hangers! On first look, this room looks really nice but after staying in it, you see how impractical it is.
If you do not mind having light by lack of curtain all night or when you can take a shower cold or without pressure than this hotel is perfect. A shame as the room are beautiful and one could feel oneself at home otherwise. Good location, close to teh lake and the pedestrian center
Stayed for just one night on business and was in the apartment section which directly overlooks Lake Constance. Weather did not play its part so I saw the lights of Switzerland at night but alas the Alps were hidden by the clouds. Wonderfully comfortable bed with modern styled glass walled bathroom. To top things off a Nespresso machine with a well stocked selection of coffee and a little sweet treat for bedtime.
We stayed in their annexe in a modern, well-appointed and stylish suite overlooking the waterfront/lake. The view could not have been better, but having the bathroom separated by a glass front rather than a wall is pretty unappealing to me and would be less than ideal if sharing a room with somebody you are not really close with. Arriving late at night and leaving the confines of the hotel for the annexe, where you don't know which rooms are hotel rooms or just apartments, was in itself not an ideal situation, even though the view made up for it.
Our night at the BW was quite interesting. A very weird arrangement to be shown to another building. The room was outdated for sure....like a mini suite. There is a mini kitchen with nothing to use not even a cup or saucepan to boil water. The dirty lounge was covered with a blanket. It is very noisy onto the street if you are at the front. Our room was 371 and it had blinding bright orange curtains!! Our shower head was broken but we were too tired to report it. The TV is modern. The breakfast was fantastic, which made up for this very average accommodation. This major chain of hotels needs to do some serious refurbishment to this hotel in this great town. Proximity on the promenade is great with the zeppelin museum just a few metres away as is the wharf and cafés .
Really expensive for what it offers: No air conditioning, no net at the windows, no elevator and old noisy room. Moreover any customer requests are NOT satisfied. No to everything. The position is good but it is difficult to get by car.
The hotel location is great, right in the middle of the pedestrian part of Friedrichshafen. Breakfast was really good too. The room was not just dated, but falling apart. Clearly it was repurposed without any modifications into a very large but non-functional hotel room. Access to the room was dated (but not date enough to be charming) and the bathroom was in bad shape. The internet signal was so weak that I could not login. The room was really pricy, especially as this isn't exactly a metropolis. As the hotel is in a pedestrian area I was expecting off-site parking. The hotel will give out tokens for exiting the parking structure but no real instructions on how to use the pay machine so I spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure it out (it was simple in the end, I only wish the front desk would have given me a head up). For non-Europeans: don't be discouraged by the "no vehicle access" signs entering the pedestrian zone. You can drive (slowly and cautiously) past the Zeppelin museum right up to the hotel.
Unfortunately at 35c outside and no aircon inside this was quite an unpleasant stay. The main building bedrooms have no aircon but their other building does, best to ask for a lake view. The breakfast was fine, the Internet ok but unfortunately the room was extremely uncomfortable due to the heat.
