We had a great time at Best Western in Fort Dodge. I was there for my High School class reunion. The rooms were clean and quiet. It is an older hotel but the staff were friendly and the breakfast was great. We would recommend this hotel for family gatherings or reunions
This was a nice stop for rest & was quiet with friendly staff. Our upstairs room was clean, spacious, & great for multiple people to get ready in, due to a separate sink from the toilet & bathtub. The beds were quite comfortable. Good breakfast with lots of hot & cold choices.
The hotel was clean & quiet with comfortable bedding & a good breakfast. The price was reasonable and the staff was friendly. We needed a hotel for the state softball tournament & this hotel fit the bill. It also has a good mexican restaurant attached!
Everything was perfect except for the pool as it's scummy view is revolting disgusting and the water is so dark green to not being able to view the bottom of the pool main drains or any bodies anchored lost by time
This hotel was great! We traveled with teenagers and the room we rented was spacious, and clean. The pool was huge and we spent hours in it, wished there was a hot tub though. Service was very good, breakfast was good, typical of Best Western Hotels. The Mexican Restaurant attached to the hotel was delicious!
clean friendly hotel. nice lobby, decent breakfast. rooms are clean and fairly modern. good bathrooms. facility is clean. pool area huge, but pool was cold. Good Staff. will stay again and recommend. Location is on far edge of town.
Positives: comfortable mattresses and excellent buffet breakfasts. Negatives: no USB ports in rooms, not enough lighting in rooms, no exterior door security. The majority of the guests at this motel were guys from out of town/state temporarily working in the area on long-term construction projects.
Pleasant from checking in to checking out! Nice room, Breakfast was good and the pool was nice! Parking lot was clean and very well lighted. The Hotel was very nice and clean! I will make a point to stay here again!
We stayed one night. The hotel is located off US-169 in the northwestern part of Fort Dodge. The hotel is large with conference and banquet facilities and ample parking. Our room was spacious and equipped with fridge, micro and coffee maker. The structure is not new and in general the hotel would benefit from an update, especially the rooms/bathrooms. The included breakfast was good and team members at the front desk and at the breakfast did a good job.
bath drain plugged when we checked in, room smelled of sewer gas, hotel is getting very dated, lobby area has been remodeled along with main meeting room, rest of hotel needs work, staff seems to work hard, but staffing issues cause issues
It was wonderful . It was a relaxing stay. Breakfast was served. They had a pool if you desired to get in. The noise level was awesome. I really enjoyed my stay. I would do it again. Had a king size bed. The rooms were clean.
Called well in advance to reserve a room on first floor as I have a severe back injury with permanent never damage going down into my legs. When I checked in the clerk would not give me the ground level room. They had no elevator and no help was given to get my items into the room. I had to take everything up a flight of stairs. This caused severe unnecessary pain. Clerk could care less. Spider was in bathroom. Tile floors were filthy. I was traveling with 2 poms and was disgusted with the amount of filth on the floor. Washed it with their wash cloth and it was black from the filth. Breakfast was poor. No fruit available and bowl was not refilled. Waffle iron was not properly cleaned or sprayed so no waffles cooked right. The good-air conditioning did work. Tv did work. Mattress comfort was not the best. For others with no back pain it might be okay.
The staff was great! And the room was great. My only complaint is the location. Wish it was closer to the main strip of Fort Dodge. But if you don't want to be that close then this is a great location. I love the size of the pool.
This was a couple miles off the beaten track, but so worth it! Extremely friendly staff- and very helpful when there was a problem with our room. They went the extra mile to make things right. The Best Western website had very reasonable rates. The room is as one of the nicer ones I've been in- sort of a log cabin motif. Roomy, very clean, and the bed as SO comfortable! Excellent breakfast the next morning which was included.
I stayed here for two nights and the room would get cold then too warm. this was the only motel I knew in Ft Dodge now since being back there I noticed other motels. the employees were very friendly and they had a great selection for breakfast.
Kenzie c. Was very accommodating. She was outgoing, nice and extremely helpful. Best staff I've delt with so far. Clean rooms and Kenzie was very outgoing with anything we needed. She is a great addition to the staff.
We had a "cabin Room", which is a remodeled motel done in a rustic theme. Room was small and somewhat crowded with King bed, lounge chair, desk & chair, credenza, etc. Bathroom nice size and step in tile shower great. Can't comment on rooms in the hotel section. Breakfast seemed minimal, but had ham, eggs, potatoes, typical pastries, cereal, and yogurt. We had dinner at attached Mexican restaurant and it good. If we are in Ft. Dodge again I would look for something closer to the highway.
We loved staying here. A little bit old fashion but such a nice homey atmosphere. It would have gotten 5 stars if they would have more than one outlet. We will be returning for a family vacation.
We were greeted by perhaps the most unfriendly and unwelcoming front desk staff member we have ever encountered at a Best Western. It started off our stay with a bad taste as we are accustomed to a different level of customer service at Best Westerns. We were in a “cabin” room - which is really just a motel section of the hotel that you can drive up to. Room was ok but cleanliness is an issue - mildew evident in Shower grout, on shower curtain, dust in bathroom fan, towels with stains (including what looked to be fresh lipstick on a face cloth), etc. The bathroom was large, the room was spacious. The hotel is located out by itself, not much around it. There's a steakhouse attached that is closing down and changing into a Mexican restaurant next month. The convenience store is about a block away
We met with family on the 5th and 6th. Initially we were told the pool was closed due to a broken pump and it would be all weekend. We were disappointed as one of the main reasons my family wanted to stay was for the use of the pool. However, they managed to fix things and the pool was great! The gal at the front desk also managed to find us a room where we could all meet and socialize as it was a large group to do that in the lobby or one of the family's rooms. The staff were all working hard and went out of theur way to accomodate.
Was a perfect stay. The manager or young man in charge was an amazing hard worker. He met all of our requests and answered phone, cleaned, and worked SO SO hard improving the motel wherever he could. Amazing worker.
Mat our grandkids and son here. The positive is that they offer poolside rooms and have a large pool with adequate seating around the pool. The negatives unfortunately outweighed the positives. We called requesting an hour early check in on one of our rooms (3 pm) as we had a little one needing a nap. We finally got that room cleaned at 4. We were told the second room should be clean and ready for us in another 30 minutes - we finally got room two. At 6 pm. We appreciate that hotel was busy and short staffed. In fact front desk person was working a double shift and we saw housekeepers still working at 8 pm. The room itself was ok by Best Western standards except it needs updating for todays guests - no plug ins convenient to beds for electronic devices or Cpap Although this is an older facility it has some nice amenities if run more efficiently. I must say the staff was friendly
We hosted our daughter's wedding at the Best Western in Fort Dodge this past weekend. It was an excellent experience. The rooms were great, the service was very helpful and friendly. Our family enjoyed the pool and the restaurant as well. Highly recommend.
Clean lobby and fast check in. Very nice pool area that was very well maintained. Had a single room In the front first floor. The room was comfortable and clean. Could see some age in the shower and bathroom area but in all honesty they must take pride in their building as every area was spotless. Bed was decent with fresh linens. I like the fact that they have a small fridge in the room with a microwave I carry a plug in cooler with and it's nice to have the fridge. Place was quiet. Buford's bbq was decent. Good service and priced fair.
My friends and I checked in Friday, it was quick and painless. We spent the night at the bar where we had great drinks and a great time. The next morning our hangovers were cured by the juice machine at the breakfast lounge.
We were in town to move relatives. We needed REST while at the hotel, and were assigned a second floor room next to the pool area. It was anything but restful. Pool is LOUD with toddlers, babies, kids and drunk adults partying till way past 10 pm. Not one night, but 2. The room door was not well sealed and around 2 am somebody was in the hallway trying to get in our door with their room key. We will never stay here again. We were not told ahead of time that it was going to be NOISY and LIGHT at night. We should have been told we had a poolside room.
Guest accommodations relatively well maintained despite age of hotel and rooms. Cleanliness fairly satisfactory, although hair from either previous guest or housekeeping staff were present in bathroom on floor, and bottom drawer of tv stand had a fleece jacket left in there, assuming from previous guest, but did show inclination of staff to not check thoroughly when reading room for next guest. Pool area was terrific all the way around, and thoroughly enjoyed by many of our guests. Check out process on Sunday morning was on the more negative side - while staff was polite, I had to ring bell for service several times, and upon no staff appearing at front desk to provide service after several minutes, I caught a glimpse of a staff member outside the front door. I had to go outside to ask for assistance, and the three staff members I interacted with all smelled of cigarette smoke on both clothing and breath. Not only did I have to wait longer than I ever should have, but it was compounded by members of our party needing to leave in order to catch flights from Des Moines that was delayed by several minutes before the transaction even began, as well as the actual front desk staff member familiar with the system not arriving until several minutes after another staff member from a different position attempting to navigate the system in order to complete the checkout process.
Best Western star light Fort Dodge Iowa is the best place to stay in Fort Dodge iowa. I will not stay anywhere else the girls at the Best Western starlight are just great and very friendly. Very clean rooms and very good Breakfast. I can't say anything bad about the Best Western starlight.
Location was next to a trailer park, but was quiet. Wasn't busy at all, maybe 10 cars in the parking lot. Doors slamming at night and in the mornings. Hot water didn't work in the room, and the rooms were very dated with VERY old mattresses.
I made the mistake of booking reservation with a dot com site. I made an error ended up booking two rooms for first night and none for the second night. Not being technically proficient I could not correct the error. When I called the dot com service number I could not understand the operator due to heavy accents and they could not understand what I was asking for. The manager (Vicki) at the motel was so professional she listened to my story and corrected the error. Lesson learned: call the motel directly to make the reservation, it can save a lot of grief and anguish and your discount could be nearly the same or maybe better.
I booked 2 rooms as a gift to my nephew to swim with his cousins for his birthday. The pool was overrun by drunken parents and rowdy children. Children were allowed to run wild in the hotel all night long- we tried to swim the next day but the pool was closed due to the wild party that had taken place the night before (overheard that a drunken parent puked in the pool). I spoke to the front desk about our concerns and they took my number to have a manager call me. Then I called the hotel the next day (Monday) and was told there were no managers available but was given an email address. I emailed the manager and still have not heard a word. Unless this is addressed properly I will never be back and I would caution others to use this place. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that this was a one-off situation where their guests had gotten out of control but they would do right by their other guests- but to be ignored by management speaks more about this establishment as a whole.
I don't recommend this hotel. Our shower did not work and only trickled water. Our room was not clean and there was dog food left on floor. We also had no linens for pull out couch even though we had checked in with 4 people. I also don't recommend the restaurant. The service was great but food was not.
Breakfast was good, staff was friendly and prompt, clean for the most part. Could use more charging outlets. It was quiet and peaceful. I will stay again with Best Western. Couldn't use the coffee pot in the room, but got coffee with breakfast.
We stayed in a cabin suite the Best Western Starlite Village for 2 nights. The front desk staff were efficient at check-in. The room was spacious with a door that opened directly to the parking lot and our vehicle, which worked well for us. The bathroom was one of the best features - large shower, lots of counter space and dedicated heater. The towels were thin and bathroom amenities were adequate. We had a sofa and side chair to relax, and a desk. There was a refrigerator, small sink and microwave in the room. There was no maid or room service at this time. The morning breakfast service was basic.
We've stayed at the Fort Dodge location for 3 weeks now for work. The staff has been very accommodating and helpful with anything that has came up. There morning breakfast is good. Very timely check in and check out times.
I do have to say I had a few problems with the facility, there was no hot tub it had just closed and the room was not very clean , however the staff was great the food was great and swimming pool area looked nice we did not swim and the room was nice just not as clean as I would liked. The price was right and it was a fairly good stay.
This hotel does not meet the standards we have seen at other Best Western hotels. We do not expect elegance at a 2-star hotel but we do expect cleanliness and reasonable sound insulation. The carpet was dirty, there were paper wrappers behind the bed and on the floor under the armchair, and the bath had only enough towels for one person, though we checked in as a couple. We were assigned a room with a connecting door and could hear the family next door late into the evening. The front desk staff, while friendly and courteous, were lackadaisacal in their attitude and required two reminders to record our rewards number.
April goes out of her way to help this regular traveler - LOW rates for frequent stays. She knows me and saw me in the parking lot on the phone. When I arrived at the front desk, April had gone out of her way to have my room booked and keys ready. NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE. Thanks, April.
Nice and clean quiet facility very polite and curdious employees who to the moon and back to help me get a cheaper rate since I had been there for 5 days already they treated me and my wife with the upmost respect
We were in town for a funeral. Fantastic hotel. Very clean, rooms looked to be very recently updated, the bed was very comfortable, the staff was very friendly and helpful! We will definitely visit again. Thank you
We stayed at the hotel as we were in town for a funeral. We had a great experience at the hotel. The rooms were very well priced for all the amenities The hotel had to offer. The rooms were clean and nice with a microwave and refrigerator. The pool area was clean and large and made for a nice place for our family to gather. We had lots of different activities we needed to accomplish for the funeral and the front desk was very accommodating. The food and service at the restaurant was outstanding.
Great hotel, we tend to stay at Holiday Inn's, however the one in Fort Dodge is not ideal because of the location, odd parking and unkind staff. Because of that we searched for hotels and came across this gem! I loved the location-on the highway and away from in town chaos. Everyone was kind and helpful, thank you Britt,April and Nicki for going out of your ways to make sure our stay was PERFECT. With the Corona Virus sweeping the world, I am comfortable staying at this hotel because I always seen the front desk cleaning and wearing their face masks. They even accommodate guests with a hot breakfast that the breakfast girls served up to us! Like I said PERFECT stay, I was so happy I decided to finally start using TripAdvisor, because this hotel deserves the recognition!
Other than a few minor inconveniences like the room being slightly too dim and only one remote it was great. Bed was comfy, shower was HUGE and great looking. Staff was amazingly friendly as well, as someone who solely stays at Holiday Inns, this will be the only place I'll be staying at in the future.
Brittany you were amazing to our family during our stay. You took the time to call ahead and inform us of your pool closure due to Covid-19. You let us know how sorry you and the hotel was for any inconvenience it caused our family. Even though we wanted to take the kids swimming you gave us a few options in town and to be honest it made our trip better! We enjoyed the hotel from the moment we checked in with you to the moment we left. The hotel had a place attached to eat and we were not disappointed. The prime rib was delicious and the service was great! Unfortunately the downside of our trip is witnessing how rude and cruel people can be to you and your staff. Not only did we witness a man belittle you for twenty minutes over not being able to sit in the pool, but you offered him an alternative to sit in your lobby. We felt you handled yourself amazingly along with your staff, if you all do not get told enough, you are all very amazing and we are happy our trip introduced us to not only a staff that cared about their guests and hotel but a family dynamic you all shared! Give this girl a raise!
The best feature of this Best Western was the friendly service. The room was clean, and cool. The bathroom was spotless and nothing out of place. The internet was easily accessible and fast. But I always look for good service and I got it.
Great staff very friendly. Very clean. We had family stay here for a funeral in town and they all enjoyed the pool and restaurant. Check in was easy and the price was very reasonable. I would recommend staying here.
Stopped at this hotel, as it was on the HWY. Looked good from the outside, but very good on the inside. The rooms were very good, and looked like they were remodeled recently. The breakfast was not too great, the staff were very active and welcoming.
Older hotel, but clean and well built..rooms are quiet. Desk people friendly. The free breakfast was very good, variety of hot and cold items We were in building F in the back overlooking an indoor pool area with plants and hot tub.
The hotel has an "Exclusive Lodge" feel to it. The room had a grand walk in shower. The fireplace is imitation, but the hearth makes you forget about that. It has a country homey feel to it. It has a large indoor swimming pool and hot tub in an Atrium setting. The restaurant has a great staff and god food. The ladies who prepare the continental breakfast are dedicated and make you feel appreciated. The hotel management and staff make you feel important.
I have stayed at this motel during a joyous family time; and also during a solemn and sad time. The staff was very accommodating to both occasions, The free breakfast is outstanding and a welcoming source protein, caffeine, comfort food and/or whatever you may need to start your journey for that day...Thank You Starlite; you were just what I (a weary traveler) needed, to get through it.
I would not stay here because staff couldn't/ wouldn't control unruly guests! A party of 5 rooms with over 39 kids were there and no adults to control any of them .the kids screamed at the top of their lungs for 6 hours no exaggeration. When we made multiple complaints nothing was done the correct the situation not eleven to ask the offenders to try and control the kids. I had 4 kids of my own and they didn't even want to swim due to the noise level in the pool area
Our son plays rugby for Iowa Central located in Fort Dodge. This is the first time staying at the Best Western and our experience was relaxing and and enjoyable. The pool, spa and food were excellent.
The fort Dodge best Western stare light is the best place I have stayed in for a long time. I stay their at least 4 times a year when I got to fort Dodge to spend time with my grand kids and daughter.
This hotel has not been updated! Crappie blankets, broken tile, dirty pool. Noise from the hall feels like it is in your room. You get a coupon for the restaurant on Sunday at check in, oops sorry the restaurant is closed today! There are lots of good choices for lodging in Fort Dodge go to one of them, DONT STAY HERE!
First off, I would like to say Brittany, the guest services manager, was both smudge and arrogant... Ok, ok... not really. She was great! She handled most everything I threw at her with grace and ease. Truly a like-able person, and made the experience to Ft. Dodge worth while. I realize it is her job to be nice to customers, but she went above and beyond in this category. On the flip side of the token, she was not afraid to me in my place when I stepped out of line. I was in town for business for 2 weeks, so the hotel staff can really make or break an experience. To the general manager of this particular best western, I have no clue what this woman's salary is, but you probably ought to consider giving her more, because is she definitely one the main reasons customers return to this establishment. I know I am not the only person on trip advisor who thinks this. With that said, you should also invest in some plungers. Well done Best Western, I have enjoyed my stay, and will be returning for my next visit to fort dodge. -- Rm 128
We booked a room here for one night to be with friends who were staying there from out of state. Booked online and it said I had double queen. We got there and were given only a single queen, but we're traveling with two kids and two adults and really needed the bigger room and second bed. I've stayed here before and know they do have much larger rooms. I inquired about this and was told I could get a bigger room but will cost us about $60 more to get what I thought I had booked to begin with. No thanks, I'm not paying, so we made it work with a family of four, one bed and crammed an air mattress for the kids into a corner between bed and Window. The tub was dirty had hair in it and noticable ring of scummy stuff all the way around. I cleaned it myself as the housekeepers seemed a touch too eager to leave on this day and the front desk girls acted as if they wanted to be anywhere but where they were so I felt I'd be a bother to them if I brought but to anyone's attention. Pool was a plus though, nice big open pool area with lots of tables and chairs and a good hot tub that we always enjoy. I'd give this hotel another chance as we have stayed with good experiences several times and typically recommend it to our family & friends when they come to the FD area. Hoping this one time was just an unusual incident.
The stay at this Best Western facility was as expected from the age of the units. The rooms were clean but dated and worn. The fixture in our bath dripped but not to a point that was brothersome. Breaklfast was hot and fresh with fresh fruit to top off eggs and waffles. The one really bad point I'll mention was the sulfur smell from the water. I did point out the drip and the smell when I checked out.
My company has been staying here for about a year now and its been wonderful. The rooms are clean and the showers are great. Working away from home sucks but the great rooms, pool/jacuzzi, arcade, bbq restaurant and amazing staff make it much more comfortable. Special thanks to Brittany for taking such good care of our team!
Older hotel but well maintained. No elevator to second floor and we were concerned with the stairs so they upgraded us to a larger ground floor room. Next morning we almost missed breakfast but the lady was very nice and stayed open long enough for us to eat. Much appreciated.
Large Best Western with indoor pool. Quite good location restaurant attached. Staff was very friendly but once again didn't know how to run. My gift card at check in which seems to occur often. Comfortable beds good nights sleep
Brittney was big help with my multi room check in. Made sure i was notified when a package was delivered also. The pool is nice and the bar is awesome! Had a big ribeye and cooked to perfection. Will atay again next time.
I have really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Brittany has been very helpful to everyone in our group with making sure we're taking care of and enjoying our stay. Brittany is very professional and she is good at her job.
Per usual, the entire staff was friendly, attentive and competent. Service was very good. Food at Bufords was well prepared with decent portions. Morning breakfast spread was varied, plentiful, hot - with an innovative breakfast-egg pizza which was terrific. What's not to like about this BW?
From the moment we checked in, to everytime we passed the desk, everyone was wonderful! They asked how our stay was and went ABOVE and BEYOND to ensure we left happy. I would recommend for anyone having a wedding to visiting family to stay at this location. Hot breakfast in the morning, indoor pool and jacuzzi, Buford's is attached with wonderful food and the bar is great. Thank You Brittany for enrolling us in Best Westerns reward program and helping us status match with Wyndhams reward program, you made sure that we got the best out of your little piece of heaven-you are all wonderful. See you again soon!
The room was clean and it was on the side of the pool area. Very nice area around the pool and we did not notice any chlorine smell in the area or our room. Very nice. Fort Dodge also has many restaurants in the area, if needed.
Recently updated. Indoor pool and area was immaculate. Room was huge with great modern touches.Shower had 3 wall nozzles and large overhead rain fixture. Breakfast had a wide array of selections and everything was good. Overall, very impressed with this old but updated facility!
This rating is based on the process of the reservation only. I called to book a two day reservation and was placed on hold twice and the third time the clerk just hung up on me. The fourth time I called, I stated that I was hung up on several times and the clerk told me that she could take my information and call back later. I understand if they are busy, but you don't just leave a person hanging on the phone and you definitely don't hang up on a person. That's not how a company should treat potential customers. What is wrong with initially saying "My front desk is busy at the moment, would you like to call back later or wait, it may take up to 5 minutes for me to get back on the line with you?" Very frustrating.
I stayed at this property with 5 other members of my work team. 5 of the 6 of us encountered problems with our rooms and we all experienced problems with the quality of water in the hotel. Some found trash left in their rooms by prior occupants, several of us had dirty linens left in our rooms. The toilet did not work in my first room and worked improperly in the 2nd room. The water softener at the hotel did not work one morning leaving the water smelling like sulfur and making the coffee in the breakfast area taste salty. The front desk staff as less than helpful when presented with problems to the point of being almost rude. There were so many problems with what my team experienced and what we overheard other guests experiencing that we have recommended that my company not send any more people to this location.
I stayed over the past weekend and it was a great. They extended the time on weekends for breakfast which is nice to know because we were so tired from swimming late. The staff let me check - in early , so thanks Brittney and Lacie for making that happen. The front desk supervisor gave me a great rate, thanks Callie. The Breakfast was awesome they had so many options and it was really good they added strawberries and whip cream for pancakes and waffles, added more choices on cereal for my kids and cinnamon rolls, plus cannot forget Renee that has been there for years. I love the familiar faces these ladies never disappoint. The second shift lady Stacey helped us with first aid kit and helped kids order from Bufords, they loved the food. The Kitchen crew allowed me to put ice cream in fridge so it would not melt. The pool room was packed full but everything went smooth my kids love the pool, so majority of our time was spent there. Thanks again Ladies for the great stay, will be returning soon for another pool day in future.
Original room had water damage. Was upgraded to suite free of charge to accommodate needs. Was able to have late check next day. Great experience. This is where we have most of our holidays-birthdays and family stays when they r in town. Love the breakfast.
My family and I used to live in the area and moved away, this is definitely one of the better hotels in Fort Dodge. We always book our hotel here when we are in town visiting family. It is normally pretty reasonably priced and very clean. I would recommend staying here for sure!
We had a room by the pool and the girls liked it. You can tell its an older hotel they remodeled. Room was clean enough. It surely is not near being a 5-star establishment. Had a bar restaurant didn't eat but did have a couple cocktails. The staff was really nice and helpful. I would recommend if you need a night or two to stay. I guess I'm comparing to the 5 Star Bloomington Hilton we stayed in the next night... no comparison.
Room was beautiful and bed was so comfortable. Girls loved the cabin feel. Some staff was amazing while 1 was not very accommodating. There is usually always 1, right? Still waiting for bill and checked out yesterday morning. Would stay again but definite clarification would be done
Broken toilet and dirty shower. Room was comfortable but the pool side room was loud into the wee hours. No shampoo in room, but plenty of towels. Staff was friendly. Very busy place on weekends with weddings and at Buford's restaurant.
Got to hotel around 5pm on June 15th 2018. I was tired of driving and wanted to settle in for the night with my friends. Upon check in, the front desk women were unable to find my reservation booked on hotel dot com site. Eventually they found it. I upgraded to a cabin like room that was huge and had fridge and sink. As we entered I noticed a few flies buzzing around. Not acceptable. Went to front desk to change rooms and was told all of them are going to have flies due to them being outside and maids going in and out. No apology and they seemed disturbed by my presence of wanting something decent. They said there is a fly swatter in every room and that they'ed switch my room. Next room had less flies but had fly swatter.Furniture was very worn and carpets looked grungy. Had to sleep with light on thinking there might be bed bugs. My friends and I decided to use the hot tub and pool inside. Hot tub was luke warm and I cannot believe they allowed this. Health department should shut down the hottub and pool area. The restaurant on hotel property had zero people at 6pm and that seemed very sketchy to me. When a restaurant is that dead at that time of day it means you should not eat there. The whole lobby and inside of the hotel looks like the 90's never left this place. Woke up and checked out, never ever to return. Drive to the Ames and skip fort dodge all together. Nothing much to do there or see.
My disappointments for the hotel relate to house keeping and the front desk regarding a 4-day stay: —My room wasn't cleaned on the first day, even though I was out of the room for the day at 9am —Amenities like shampoo and towels would be plentiful one day in the room and then only conditioner and one towel the next day —The WiFi password resets on Sunday at 3am (I learned) but they fail to tell you when you check in or the day that happens
The hotel is very clean and the people were very friendly. Our group had three different rooms and we did not request to be next to each other which was our fault so it was quite a distance between rooms. One was next to the pool, one was in a different section and the third was in one of the little cabin rooms across the parking lot. So make sure to request rooms together if in a group. The morning breakfast choices were excellent. I would stay here again.
We had a very interesting stay at this Best Western. We have been elite members for awhile and have generally had very good stays with Best Western all across the country. The staff was pleasant and gave us a great room. Unfortunately, the noise level coming from the neighbours was quite significant...like wow - it was not good. We absolutely hate to have to complain about such things, but we knew we would not be having a good night with the way things were shaping up. I mentioned the noise issues to Brittney at the front desk, and she promptly moved us to a beautiful quiet suite. It was one of the best nights we had! We wished that we could somehow take that suite with us on our travels! Thank you so much Brittney - you made our hotel stay go from a 3 star to a perfect 5 star with a recommendation to come to this hotel. Congrats!
Great Rooms, clean, nice décor, and spacious. Bed was really comfortable, and Shower was sharp. Location was in a great area as it was easy to get anywhere in town with no issues whatsoever. It was very quiet in the area and the parking lot was well lit.
We spent the night while traveling for business. We booked online and the very pleasant lady at the front desk already had us upgraded as Rewards members when we arrived. We stayed in a room in a separate building. It was spacious, nicely decorated and very clean. The bed and pillows were comfy. We had drinks and a bite to eat at Buford's, the onsite restaurant. We weren't very hungry so just had appetizers, but they were very good. We would definitely stay again if we pass through that area!
The king suite was very well apportioned, roomy, and comfortable. Dogs are welcome. There is ample room for parking and two access/exit points. The restaurant, Buford's, served great BBQ. Hotel staff were VERY helpful.
I was so upset and never been so disappointed in my life and hopefully they make it right w me stayed there alot and have never had a problem thil this last time there was a big party going on in pool area kids cussing and throwing things and food all over around and in pool just nasty and they were bullying my daughter also and no respect at all also i found a bug on my pillow not sure was it was they gave me new pillow. Also found a water bottle on floor next to night stand and bed that was from previous ppl and in open. Spome w hotel manager then next day when checking out and he really didnt say much besides o sorry and picture of bug not in focus so cant tell u what is was also even said ya u stay here cuz ive seen u few times so ud think hed make it right w me but nope just a sorry thats all like i said hope they make it rught w me or might not go bk and was nit cuz of staff at all vuz they were very helpful and tried to take care of those kids and all but parents wudnt do anything either no adult supervision which shud have been cuz thats pool rules.
the rules stated no pool parties allowed, there was a pool party and it was hell for the other guests and my self. There was food in the pool and hot tub, I couldn't be in the hot tub due to the kids in there. There was alot of cursing going on and parents not watching the kids. The staff was amazing with myself and other guests. The staff is the only reason I would come back to this hotel.
We have stayed at this hotel before and have really ejoyed our stay. The staff here have been very helpful and courteous. The hotel has a very good continentel breakfast and a pool and whirlpool. This hotel has suites which are very nice.
The staff is very caring, from the front desk to maintenance. Always offering assistance. The room was good sized with king bed, frig and microwave ,chair to watch shows on a 32 inch TV with cable. Updated furniture. large bathroom with oversized walk tile shower.
Working 12 hour days on this trip. The rooms were reasonably priced with many poolside. Very clean and great water pressure in the shower. Very nice hot breakfast with several options, such as, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, etc. As my crew had to leave very early each morning, the breakfast attendant started serving a bit earlier so we could be accommodated. There is also a very good restaurant adjoining the hotel. I highly recommend staying here.
Room was great clean well done near the hot tub. Best western always accommodate for a bike so that we can have them in sight. Great pool and a hot tub, not that lukewarm crap. After a hard day of biking we need 103° to work out the kinks. The restaurant Buford's is right there. Excellent steakhouse good service. You can ask for more when you're traveling five stars
Of the several places to stay in Fort Dodge, this has to be one of the best! The staff is great and the room offerings are outstanding. There are upgrades at reasonable prices when you ask. The breakfast offering is one of the best as we have found in many of the Best Westerns where we have stayed over the years. We find the quality to be continuously getting better.
A large number of rooms face the pool area from the both the first and second levels. The hot tub and the pool area were very pleasant. Our room had easy access from the handicap parking area, plus it was clean with a comfy bed. Great Dinner & Staff!
Good place to stay. Great breakfast and pool area and area to relax. Conference rooms are very accommodating. We had no problems except for the wifi connection that we could not get to keep us logged in the internet
Was not offered any discount on room price for air not working. Horrible night of sleep! Pool was cold but very sallow. Went to restaurant for dinner with a group of 7 of us and the waiter was so unprofessional! Every time we asked for something he would make a noise as to it was a bother to him. Food took forever to get to us. Breakfast was okay just average
First time we've had an opportunity to stay at Best Western Starlite Village in Fort Dodge, and SO glad we did. The entire facility is well kept, and staff is friendly and helpful. We stayed in one of the Timberland Suites, and it was well worth the money. Clean, plenty of room to spend time with friends, comfortable king bed, lovely decor. Will definitely stay here again.
Best Western Ft Dodge, Iowa was comfortable with nice accomodations, hot tub and swimming pool. If you want a good breakfast, go to a restaurant - you can certainly do better. Staff was very helpful. Business Center had problems with printing off my boarding passes - needed to forward the e-mail to the front desk and they printed them off - printer wasn't set up to print anything containing ads.
We stayed one night for a wedding. Great room location off the pool with easy access from outside doors. Large room with refrigerator and microwave. Very clean and comfortable. My only suggestion would be they get wider curtains for the Windows that overlook the pool. There is a space that lets in light all night from the pool area and the space is just wide enough you can see people sitting on their rooms if they're at the table or by mirrors. Get dressed back by the bathroom--you don't know what people walking down halls may see!
Great facilities and exceptional staff. Comfortable and clean guestrooms. Restaurant and lounge has great food and service. Large pool area for families to gather. Banquet and meeting space is spacious and modern.
I was especially impressed with the housekeeping staff. They were very attentive to all of our needs. The housekeeping staff went above and beyond "the call of duty", even to the point of asking about specific items that we might need.
Very clean rooms, great beds, excellent, caring staff. Large indoor pool & jacuzzi . It had a free very nice large breakfast with many thing to chose from! We were on the right side of building and could hear the cars as they drove on the rumble strips to the stop - recommend the other side of building or ear plugs. I would recommend this motel !
To anyone visiting the Fort Dodge area, we highly recommend staying at the Best Western in Fort Dodge. Very clean rooms, excellent, caring staff, wonderful, free breakfast to their guests. I believe you will find their room rates to be very competitive. My family and I have been guests at this particular motel over 20 different visits and we highly recommend this beautiful motel to anyone.
Very nice place and worth the price. Pool area is nice and Bufords steak house was excellent. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were very spacious and clean. I only have positives about this experience.
Stayed at the Best Western Starlite while in Ft Dodge for a Baseball tournament nice hotel staff very friendly no issues with room. Would stay in hotel again if in Ft.Dodge. Family enjoyed a dinner at restaurant.
Very nice and friendly. Great free breakfast,. room with nice accommodations. No complaints. Price was good. Staff was friendly and eager to help. Easy parking. We were there on a Thursday night and it was not very busy, for us that was great.
I have been disappointed by the extreme noise level of this hotel. Most rooms surround a pool where parties went on until 11 p.m. Screaming children were loud and make this stay extremely unpleasant. I complained to the staff but was told that no room available that meet my needs (two queen size beds). The only room available in a quiet area had one bed and one sleeper. Although I was told that I can call back if I change my mind, the staff sounded defensive about my complaints. I don't feel the staff were forth coming about the noise level in this hotel and put us in area that was next door to the party room. This experience will prevent me from staying at another Best Western in the future.
This Best Western is a nice, clean hotel. They've done a wonderful job updating the decor and facility for as old as the hotel is. I would recommend this to families. The pool is perfect for children/families and parties.
Bathrooms need updating. Drains didn't drain, water pressure too high, no ventilation. Roomed smelled like a swimming pool. Some noises could be heard from outside, but quite for the most part. Kids enjoyed the pool. Rooms need updating for sure.
I've stayed almost exclusively with Best Western for work anyways... I think I have received a good value everytime. And the Starlite didn't disappoint. If, and when I work out of state I always look for a Best Western!
efficient and friendly staff at check in. Location in Ft Dodge was good with our next day travels. Good value. Stayed at this Best Western few yrs back and would stay again. Breakfast room has plenty of room and menu choices were good
Decided to stay here for the night because our other hotel was booked. was unsure about the stay because of the reviews but it was a very good stay!! manager and other staff were very friendly. the breakfast room was clean and had a lot of good food offered. room was clean and had no problems, kids enjoyed swimming in the pool. It was nice eating at the restaurant they had there, the food was amazing. Overall experience was the best. Will definitely be staying here next time I'm in town
Very happy overall. Staff was friendly and helpful, room was clean, breakfast was yummy, pool is very nice and clean. Great choice of you travel with a dog. Good value for the price. It's a little bit outside of town but that's ok, the drive is short.
This hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The on site restaurant was very good. The food was good and the portions were large. We asked for a quiet room and was accommodated.
Spent the night here 9/18/2016. We had 2 rooms, poolside. Rooms were good, beds were comfortable and showers were hot. The pool is only 3 1/2 ft deep but my girls (17 - 20 years old) said the water was semi warm. We had a good time. I am giving it 5 stars as I am not really particular about the room not having a trash can or some of the lights not working. All that matters is I have a clean, quiet, comfortable place to sleep in.
Where do I begin? Bed bugs in the beds! Had a maid proposition me for meth! (Sorry, drugs are for losers) The room was very outdated and overall the hotel has really gone downhill in the last year. BBQ restaurant on grounds is average at best. Will not be back!
Stayed at the Starlite Village 1 night for a business meeting. This is a property with some age but the property is well kept and staffed. I arrived midweek the evening before my meeting, and there were very few people staying at the property, was wondering if I was at the correct property. By morning the place had come to life. Turned out that the facility did a wonderful job of hosting the business meeting (of about 75) which was an all day affair with breakfast and lunch catered by the Starlite. Was pleasantly surprised, good job Starlite and good job Hertz Farm Mgt.
There is not anything this hotel won't do for you, and the amenities are all there! Fitness center, business center with a printer, several meeting rooms, a ballroom, setup for a full service buffet, big indoor pool, decent hot tub, Buford's Steakhouse has a fair priced menu with delicious wood fire BBQ. They will deliver right to your hotel door.
When we booked the room we requested a pet free room. When we arrived at the hotel we were informed that all rooms were pet friendly and they did not have pet free rooms. The desk clerk said that there had been no pets in our room recently. We stayed but will not stay in this hotel again.
The room was very overpriced for the overall condition: outdated, cleanliness, disrepair. It was imperative that we had the use of wifi and cell service so that we were able to work while in the hotel. It was not working and we had a very weak cellular carrier signal as well which did not allow for internet usage nor text or phone calls. We checked out early and reserved another hotel.
The rooms are spectacular and the hotel staff is beyond reproach. I always enjoy my stays and any issues are handled immediately and professionally. This is one of the absolutely best hotels. Everyone is friendly, it is not far to food places. Rooms are so quiet that you do not hear others in adjoining rooms.
My parents live in Fort Dodge so we planned our Family Reunion around them. My siblings and Family all traveled in and stay at the Best Western Starlite Village. What an excellent venue. We had comfortable, clean & affordable lodging, plus the pool area was a big hit with the kids. So much room to visit. Their complimentary Hot Breakfast is wonderful. Everything we needed in one spot. We highly recommend this hotel for your Family get togethers.
We arrived to check in and there was a wedding reception in the lobby -- made us uncomfortable to be checking in right in the middle of a private reception. The room was okay -- it needed some maintenance and definitely needed to be cleaned better. The bed was not bad. The location was difficult to find way on the outskirts of town -- not much out there.
I'm always greeted with courteous and professional staff members at every hotel that I stay at. Since I stay mostly at certain ones, they have become more like family than just personnel staff members. The pet fee is very reasonable. I really enjoy the hot breakfast bar in the mornings. If a guest leaves hungry, they are either too picky or in a rush to get to their next destination. They're very good about notifying me of up-coming rewards specials. i find the shower/bath always clean so that I can take a long relaxing bath if I choose to. My thanks to hotel owners and all their staff members for making mine and my pet Rudy stay comfortable as possible.
upon 3 pm check in-- the room was not ready-several rooms were not and many people were waiting in the lobby area. The sunrise breakfast was from 6:30-9:30. We arrived @ 7:30 and not much food was out. Slim pickings. Noisy and fights in the hotel that the police had to be called.
I came for a conference. The staff i encountered were friendly enough. The facility is very dated. There were plumbing issues, cleanliness issues in bathroom and bed. A traveling companion found what appeared to be a bed bug in her bed.
Stayed at the Starlite Village because of a meeting that was heard there. Basic room, bed was on the soft side. The room & bathroom appeared to be clean. Took awhile for the heater to kick in and warm up the room.
I was pleased with our stay. The pool was nice, the breakfast was substantial, the workers were helpful. The room was clean. My only complaint was that the room was very tight, especially the bathroom.
We enjoyed the very large family friendly pool. Lots of space for adults to lounge while kids are swimming. We really enjoyed our room as well. It was a very large suite with a beautiful bathroom. It was a dog friendly hotel too.
this was my first stay in fort dodge so I didnt know what or where to get lodging I am pretty confident that best westerns are all pretty nice places. I was afford an up grade room being a rewards member. the bar/restaurant was newly remodeled and the steak I had was probably one of the best.
The staff is not very friendly. I stood at the front desk for over 20 minutes waiting to check in because there was only one person there and he was on the phone. He didn't even look at me until others walked up. Then he put the person on the phone on hold and said he would get his manager and came back alone. I was finally checked in 25 minutes later. The room was freezing cold. There was rabbit poop on the floor, the shower wasn't draining, the shower curtain was discussing, the doors were dirty were people had touched them, not enough towels for two people, the bed was not comfortable at all and the pillows were half the size of a regular pillow. There was also paint missing from different areas and the paint on the walls was several different colors. Then to top it off they are telling people that are clearly drunk that they can charge their drinks to their room after the spouses had asked them not to serve them anymore.
The pillows are small and no rollaway bed for added guests in a king size room. Great breakfast, clean room, nice helpful staff. The hot tub by pool is very small for such a big hotel, the smallest we have been in. Maybe should have 2 hot tubs like some hotels! The pool is nice maybe could be a little warmer. The room with a hot tub is very nice and big! The rooms are nice with big fridges and microwaves.
Don't eat dinner the night before, you will have all you will be able to eat at the morning breakfast bar that goes with a great price for the motel room. Great place! Restaurant on property offered a great dinner for the price, Had the Rib dinner and more than I could handle but I did anyway.
First, I really enjoyed this hotel. I was in town for a wedding and really enjoyed the newly updated room. However, staff was very unhelpful when trying to locate our room. He pointed in an arbitrary direction and gave us a map. My boyfriend and I felt like we were on a treasure hunt. Once we finally found our room, we were able to relax and take a nice long nap after a long trip. When we got up later in the afternoon to get ready for the rehearsal dinner, we were surprised to find that the newer part of the hotel did not have very much lighting. It was difficult to get ready in the room while one of us was using the bathroom because of the lack of lighting. I would stay here again, but will definitely bring a flash light! ;)
Room was fine...restaurant was great...food was outstanding! If looking for an economical option in Ft. Dodge, this would fit the bill well. It was very convenient to have the restaurant attached to the motel.
On a car show event in central Iowa there is a show called drive to the woods. We reserved a room at Starlite Village arriving a day esrlier grest room good parking good resturaunt and good pool area. Room was large and cabin theme. Nice and clean Fridge microwabe large walkin shower. Free wifi
Arriving to attend the funeral of a family member, the check-in process was mostly smooth (except for a non working key card), but the room clearly displayed worn bedding, and 3or4 smallish pillows which we knew would prove insufficient to ensure a night of comfortable sleep. Upon asking for additional pillows, we were informed that management doesn't allow extra pillows, but we could have a blanket instead..?? The young lady sitting so comfortably behind the counter was intent on staying there until I said OK to the blanket, requiring her to actually deliver said blanket. BTW, out of maybe 100 rooms, I'd say about 20 were occupied. The property has a large enclosed pool area, which is great for families, but the room amenities leave much to be desired.
They don't put on the customer hat. Lack of hotel professionalism. Dress and appearance of front desk staff was pathetic. Three times I approached the desk and no one was there. Hollered and no one appeared. You won't get the service your paying for. Stayed there several times in the past and it has gone way down hill.
I stay at this location whenever I go to Fort Dodge. It's prices are competitive and it is very comfortable. It is currently being remodeled making it even more competitive with some of the new hotels in the area.
I went in without a reservation and the rate was $94. Strange, because I checked availability while in the parking lot and the rate was $76. Apparently, if you book on line instead of walk in, the rate is lower, even if you do it while standing at the desk. So I went back to my car, made a reservation for $76, and returned to the lobby a few minutes later. They had the reservation I made moments ago, and for the $76 amount, yet their system would not let them charge me for that, but only for the $94. The clerk did what she could, was apologetic for the glitch, and asked that I speak to the Manager in the morning. In the morning, the issue was quickly resolved. While reading the booklet in the room, it mentioned a $1 "safe fee". On no you don't! If there is a "safe" (or any other) fee, you will tell me UP FRONT AND BEFORE I BOOK, not afterwards and certainly not off to the side in the information book in the room. As it turns out, there was no "safe fee", so maybe they've met a lot of resistance for being - bluntly put - dishonest. I call hotels out on this nonsense each and every time. (What next? A bed fee, a shower fee?) The Best Western Starlite is modeled after motels made in the 70s, I'll guess, when having rooms around the pool area was considered the thing. Those rooms can tend to be noisy, smelly, and very humid. Using the air conditioning (never my personal first choice) was necessary, as the windows opened up to the chlorine soaked humid air.
