« Good stay for business travels »

I stay in this hotel whenever I travel to Essen for business. Underground parking, breakfast, bar all good. Rooms are a bit small. The staff is helpful and recognized returning customers - thats a nice touch.

    « Good stay »

Was here for a business stay, good hotel meeting my expectations. Due to high booking and a fair going on, I got a smokers room and being a none-smoker this was terrible. The breakfast buffet was good and defintly meeting my expectations.

    « Noisy rooms »

Stayed here for 4 nights. It was acceptable, but nothing superb. The breakfast was great, but the rooms facing the street really noisy. The staff were nice and helpful. + parking + breakfast - noisy rooms

    « Does the job »

Clean , comfortable and convenient. 500m form the nearest underground. The staff were superb and deserve a special mention. There was a large extensive choice for breakfast and the quality was good. Would book again if I was staying in Essen.

    « Small cosy rooms »

The hotel staff is very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean, but small. This however makes them cosy. The food is ok. I enjoyed my stay. The price/quality is very good as well. The bar is a nice place to end the evening.

« Nice hotel great service »

It was serendipity at work. I really did not intend to book this hotel. But because of heavy demand in and around Essen. I was forced to look for options beyond the city center. This hotel is though not very far from the hauptbahnhof Though not walking distance from it. For access to the u bahn oneheas to walk for 10 min to a Ruttenscheider strasse. Plus is the hotel offers cycles on rent for free. Eating out options are a lot once you reach the Ruttenscheider strasse. The rooms are small but comes with minibar and coffee maker. They more than make up for anything else with large hearted service. The room was hot on a summer evening and they arranged for a portable AC right away. On another occasion the lady in the front desk really helped me to get an urgent print out. The breakfast is good. There's a restaurant also open in the evening only. I tried the Thai curry and rice and it was quite good. Essential Sud station is 10 min walk. Since the hotel is facing the road , I would suggest rooms o5 the backside for quiter environment . I did not experience any negatives to mention. All in all nice hotel and staffs are always with smile on the faces. Keep it up!

    « 3 nights stay »

It's a great hotel, the staff are very polite and really professional, rooms are extra clean and organized, every service is done with attention to details. morning breakfast is nit to be missed, and the food served in the restaurant is very good.

    « Fantastic little hotel »

I cannot fault the staff at this hotel. Check in and reception was very fast, efficient and helpful. An under ground carpark is available but my 4x4 looked a tight squeeze so i parked outside the main entrance which is not an issue. Breakfast is on for a long time so theres no need to rush after a heavy night. The hotel is 10 minutes walk away from some great little bars, we can recommend Fitzpatricks Irish bar. Also 10 minutes from great restaurants and McDonalds if you want fast food. We spent a weekend here for a festival. I would 100% stay again. The only negative is the rooms are very hot if you do not live in the area. Maybe a fan could be an option? Otherwise great staff, facilities and stay.

« Very Hard to Fault It! »

Found myself back in Essen, so of course back to the Ypsilon. As usual I wasn't disappointed. A great warm, friendly welcome, a comfortable sleep, relaxed atmosphere, and the best Sunday breakfast available. All coupled with a relaxed late check-out. These guys know what their guests need and work to that agenda rather than to their own as most hotels do! I'll be back very soon!

« Some like it hot »

I'm no Tony Curtis but I feel like a Jack Lemmon for staying here. Be warned there is no air conditioning and boy it's warm. The curtains were closed to keep out the heat and opening the windows lets in the street noise.

    « Simple and Complete »

When doing business at the local Messe Expo, this hotel is very convenient, nearby, and comfortable. The rooms are not big, but beds are good. The bar is small, but the service to good and they serve tasty popcorn, if you wish. The included breakfast to good for all Western tastes. I will return to this hotel next time in Essen.

    « Functional and efficient »

It's a bit out of the town centre and looks a bit 1970s or Soviet in style from the outside, but inside its all very efficient, clean and welcoming. Very friendly and helpful front desk staff, large rooms (though a bit dark, could do with more lights). Breakfast buffet was usual business hotel, pretty good.

« Nice Hotel for Business Visit »

I had a very pleasant 2 day stay for a business visit to the Essen area. Very friendly staff, nice clean room with good design. The hotel has a good location with quick access to the autobahn. Nice bar and restaurant. I had dinner at the restaurant and was impressed with the food quality. Limited menu but good vegetarian choices were offered. Good parking below the hotel. The covered area provides a dry access to the car on a rainy day. Will repeat on my next visit to Essen

« Nice staff, rooms OK but stiflingly hot in summer »

Rooms are comfy if a little small, food is OK, staff are freindly and welcoming. The only real gripe is that I found the rooms stiflingly hot staying there in the summer and it's by a main road so noisy if you open the window. It's not terribly convenient for the U-bahn

    « Great hotel »

This hotel has smoking rooms. Staff fantastic, room a little cosy but clean, hotel not near city centre, rooms are a reasonable rate however you do have to pay for breakfast and parking, would we stay at this hotel again YES

    « Above and Beyond »

The staff at the Hotel BW Ypsilon were fantastic! They were so helpful, pleasant and kind. They went above and beyond our expectations to assist us with all of our wants an needs. The food at the breakfast was delicious, the hotel restaurant was lovely and the food there was also excellent. I cannot complement them highly enough. It is conveniently located and comfortable.

    « Best Western quality »

I stay at this hotel every time I visit Essen for business. it is a clean place with very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are clean and standard Best Western quality. Breakfast fresh with good choice, again as you can get all over the world. It would be lovely if it were a little bit more characteristic. I will surely come back any time

« Glad to be back again »

I hadn't stayed here in a while, but was glad I went back again. I had forgotten how good it is! The staff were friendly as always, very relaxed, and the breakfast has only gotten better (and went on until 1pm!!!!). Their check-out is 12pm, an hour later than most places, but when 12 comes and if you're still in your room, there is no incesant phonecalls or knocks on the door, fantastic! I'll be back.

« Typical travelling sales man hotel »

Might be a bit unjust as I've arrived rather late and left early in the morning, but most of what I've seen didn't impress me. The room was more Ibis standard, a lot of cheap stuff, plastic shower and the sheets weren't fully clean (some lints on it) also he room was smelling heavily after cigarettes (I'm a smoker, so if I can smell it, that counts for something). In general the attention to detail didn't seem to be great. However check out went swiftly and the location is convo isn't enough to get quickly in and out. So nothing really bad but nothing that would tempt me to get back either

« Decent, well located hotel »

Located close to Ruttenscheider Strasse, Ypsilon enjoys very good connectivity through U-bahn and S-bahn, 10 mins walk away and Bus, 2-3 mins walk away. Ruttenscheid has some of the best restaurants in Essen. An excellent Chinese Imbiss is a 5-min walk towards Ruttenscheid. Rooms are small, with a nice bed. Best thing about Ypsilon is its breakfast buffet. With a variety of breads, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals, fruits and coffees, and a live counter for eggs, I enjoyed every meal there. You get free wifi and good service from their staff. A well stocked piano bar can help you unwind and de-stress from the gruelling day-long work.

    « GIVE IT A TRY »

This hotel was a little off the beaten track compared to our previous Essen visits but it was worth the stay. It appears a little basic at times but offers all that you would want from a hotel. Good staff and amenities and a friendly feeling helped make the stay enjoyable. The only down side was that the bed was quite noisy when turning over but it was comfortable. Internet was good and the lift quirky (in a nice way). Enjoyable stay.

« Should have been 5 stars, but--- »

Very good room, a mini suite with a very comfortable bed and quiet location at the back. Excellent shower. No kettle provided but coffee and tea brought to the room free of charge on request. The settee in the suite was convertible to a single bed.A comfortable stay. Breakfasts were amazing with wonderful food and very good value. The downside - on Sunday evening we brought back four guests at 6 pm after an event to have a relaxing drink. No one was in the bar (except two hungry other customers) and despite repeated requests to the reception, no one appeared for 35 minutes. The man on reception was very unhelpful. Eventually the lady in charge of the bar did appear and explained that she had to staff the bar and cook the food and had been cooking the snack for the two other hungry guests. Only snacks such as sausage and chips are available on a Sunday. We were served after 40 minutes. It appears there were only 2 members of staff in the hotel. The restaurant does not operate on Sunday evenings - although the website says nothing about this (the in-room brochure does make this clear if you read it all). On Monday morning we had to leave at 6.25am (I told the staff this on Sunday night). When we came downstairs at 6.15 am we expected to be able to have a cup of coffee from the "24 hour coffee service" in reception. There was none, and the night reception told us we could have nothing until 6.30am - when we would be gone. He was not interested and made to offer to help. So we left for the airport without even being offered a glass of water. So a lovely Hotel but don't bother being there on Sunday night or early Monday morning, they have no interest in you then

« GREAT room; horrendous WiFi! »

Don't get me wrong, we were perfectly content with this room. The location worked out very well for us, the staff was friendly, the room was very clean. The bed in the room was VERY hard, if that's what you like, but we were so exhausted each night, any bed would have been fine. There was great pressure in the shower and that was delightful. Bring your toiletries as we were only given soap and shampoo and I didn't like the shampoo. There was a hair dryer (and a lighted make-up mirror!) but no iron. The only real complain was that the free WiFi was the most ridiculous I've ever encountered and I've traveled a lot. Each day, we'd have to request slips of paper from the front desk with randomized numbers and passwords -- FOR EACH piece of equipment. That was four for us: two iPhones and 2 tablets. These codes were only good for 6 hours so they had to be reentered each time to use the phone or iPad. Don't make a mistake, or you'll spend 5 minutes trying to log in! The iPhones, we were told didn't hold the codes, making it the most frustrating and absurd way to dole out free WiFi. On that basis alone, I'd consider finding another hotel! However, if that isn't an issue for you, this is a fine place to stay. We never ate in the restaurants though there was a breakfast buffet every morning in one room (not free) and a restaurant/bar.

    « Functional »

Stayed here on a business trip. Not my usual choice of hotel in Essen, however the staff were pleasant and free wifi was available. Rooms were clean but pretty basic and I found it quite frustrating that there were no tea and coffee facilities in the room (I ordered a pot of tea on room service and there was no cup or sugar provided).

    « Nice hotel »

Simple hotel, clean and functional. Staff is friendly, wifi very fast room a little bit crampy. Breakfast nice for the hotel level, be careful for parking...can be a problem to find a place. Well located if you are for business in Essen

« Nice weekend with friends »

I had a great weekend with friends. Nice clean friendly hotel. Awsome Sunday breakfast / brunch and very nice profesional people. Ask for an ommelet at breakfast and you are in for a surprise. Also liked the achitecture of hotel very unique.
