    « Cool Ocean view »

We booked an ocean view room for my sons birthday. We were pleased with the room and how clean everything was. It is spacious and offers a large balcony. The full breakfast was a nice addition and the grounds were lovely. Parking was included in the price and there was plenty of spaces. There is a pathway down to the beach. It is a little steep and not paved so we opted to just drive to the beach which is just a few minutes away. We found free parking at the beach as well. Downtown Encinitas is also a couple of blocks away and offers a hip subtle night time scene.

    « great location »

Excellent value for location! Not fancy, but clean and definitely a wonderful place to vacation near the beach! Spacious rooms. Free breakfast. Have stayed here a few times and will definitely come back.

« Dream Stay at Moonlight Beach »

Down for Spring Break, the hotel was close to everything, in gliding LegoLand. With the train station close by, San Diego seemed practically down the street. We had a great stay. Hotel was clean and the free breakfast always hit the spot. Enjoy!

    « Cali Vacation »

Easy access on and off the 5. Hotel near the Coaster train but the sound did not disturb sleep. Large, clean rooms. More storage/counter tops would have been helpful. Upon request, did get refrigerator.Good variety for breakfast. Pool area nice. Staff helpful.

    « Family friendly »

    « An Incredible Value »

My husband and I recently stayed 4 nights at the Best Western, Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. We had a king suite and it was huge, clean and comfortable. The grounds and breakfast were both fantastic. Breakfasts we well stocked and they thought of EVERYTHING! For a family it's a great value. Easy walk to the beach, train, town.

    « good »

this is a nice hotel close the Moonlight Beach and with a lot of restaurants and stores close. It has a good breakfast, with eggs, bacon, oat, iogurte, fruits, many different breads and cereal, jelly, honey, waffle you make by yourself. The rooms are very nice. The bed is good, there is a big balcony in every room. The amenities are good. I didn´t like the towels, specially the bath towels. They are small and look like we find in a motel. Good internet. Water with fruits in the lobby and apples too. During the day we can listen the train but I had a very good sleeping at night. No carpet in the elevators what is very good and clean.

« Great Weekend at BEST Western Encinitas Inn & Suites-Moonlight Beach »

Great location, clean and spacious rooms with K-cup coffee makers, large balconies with beautiful views of sunsets, delicious free breakfast under pool cabana area, plenty of parking even with the hotel having been fully booked this weekend, but the thing that made this such an excellent place to stay were the staff. All the people were incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. We traveled here to celebrate my parents 41st wedding anniversary near moonlight beach. We booked six rooms including one suite. We were all so satisfied with everything and everyone at this hotel. We even extended an extra night because we didn't want to leave. Plenty of restaurants and shopping areas nearby. My parents are always on the go and don't make time for rest, so the nearby meditation garden was a real treat for them to take in the beautiful scenery on the bluffs above the ocean. We have found the perfect San Diego Staycation!

    « Tips for Families »

The rooms and balconies here are large which is nice for families. You can eat breakfast on the pool deck while the kids swim. The breakfast has lots of stuff for kids. The beach is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. It is a fairly steep walk uphill coming from the beach which would be very unpleasant with young kids and beach gear. The beach is small with very limited parking so you are likely to have to drive off to another beach for the day. The hotel is about a 10 minute Uber ride from the Amtrak train stop. There are no restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel - so again, with kids, plan to drive here.

    « Ok, good location »

The hotel was in a central location right next to the coaster station and walking distance to the beach. The room was a little dated, but had a nice view. The bed was small considering the room size. There was a fridge. The parking was really convenient. Breakfast was included and served next to the pool.

« Challenging staff, hard if you have mobility issues, not close to the beach-no path »

The good: Balcony is large, beds are okay The bad: Naked loud children by the pool, kids bragging about peeing in the pool, no adults in sight, no staff to help, when front desk was called, no response. Front desk staff lacked customer service skills and was rude. The ugly: The so called "path to the beach" is very scary and steep, mostly dirt and almost impossible to navigate on a dry day. When you get down it you are not at the beach, you are on the road, a further 2 block walk to the beach. IF you choose to go around, you are going down a very steep driveway and have to walk under a freeway overpass to get to the beach. The hotel does not offer a beach shuttle. This hotel might be good for those here on business or who have a car. If you do not, you will feel stuck and isolated at this hotel. Based on my comments, the manager was willing to discount a future stay. However, I would not stay again at this hotel if it was free. I would rather pay and enjoy my vacation.

« Great Option In Encinitas »

Spacious rooms, great balconies(most with an oceanview) and an excellent location. We've stayed here three times now when visiting Encinitas and are always pleased we did. Walls are thin, but otherwise very easy place to stay.

« Beautiful room, awesome breakfast »

The Best Western at Moonlight Beach was a wonderful choice for a break away. Front desk personnel were helpful. Room was comfy with tile shower, k-cup coffee maker, nice views, good bed and linens. Breakfast was the best I've had including bacon or sausage, eggs and English muffins, waffles and the usual continental breakfast items. Natural food market across the street. Walkable to the beach with an ice cream store on the way.

    « Love the Beach »

We have stayed at this location with our extended family several times. The hotel is walking distance to Moonlight Beach, a terrific area for surfing and body boarding. The hotel serves a solid breakfast with outside seating by the pool. The rooms are clean and the staff is friendly.

« Froze to death in our room »

My husband and I stayed at Best Western Encinitas several weeks ago. Our room was clean and well equipped, the breakfast was superb on the one day we took it. However, our stay was ruined because of the faulty heating system - our room was FREEZING and blew-out only cold air. We phoned the reception and asked for someone to come to the room to look at the thermostat - no-one came. At check-out we gave further feedback and were told the boiler was faulty and only operating on 'low pressure'. We were offered $20 compensation for the negative experience. Having had a career in marketing and crisis management, I know it isn't always the stem problem that is remembered, but the way in which it is dealt with that leaves the lasting impression. We wrote to the Assistant General Manager and heard nothing. Our impression is that we made a comment about the lack of heat and nothing was done about it, we then made another comment at check-out and were offered $20 compensation for our negative experience across an entire weekend. We feel that just doesn't reflect how Best Western would want to be seen in the public arena.

    4
    « Happy Dog »

Very good motel for people traveling with dog. The dog-friendly rooms are located on the first floor at far end of the hotel and open onto a nearly private small yard which makes things easy. Across the street is a fairly large community park with both paved and dg trails for walking dogs, on leash, of course, plus tennis courts. 10 minute walk to the ocean but state beach does not allow dogs either leashed or unleashed; still, only 15 minute drive to dog beach in Del Mar. Encinitas is nice town and dog friendly with water bowls and outdoor restaurant seating. Best Western room was large and well maintained. Breakfast incuded eggs and bacon or sausage as well as cereal, waffles, and so on. Best of all, the coffee was good. Also fitness center.

« Good place, great location »

The price was right, great location, solid breakfast which was included. I couldn't ask for anything more. The staff was friendly and the room was more updated that I was expecting. If I return to this town, I will come right back to the Best Western

    « Great beach hotel »

Great location to the beach. This hotel always meets our needs. Pet friendly, clean rooms, good breakfast and helpful staff. The rooms are large and the view from the patio is beautiful. Always our go-to hotel in the area.

    « Very disappointing »

Extremely disappointed with the stay here. I have not been here in years due to a prior experience and decided to give it another chance. Customer service is very poor and Josh might need to take a re-fresher class because he was probably the worst employee I came in contact with. I requested to change rooms due to broken in/lumpy beds and loud guests in the middle of the night. I was given various excuses, and a manager was supposed to return my call - no call was returned. I called the 800# for Best Western customer service which was also unsuccessful. If I had been given the courtesy of a phone call and option to check out without being penalized it would've changed my opinion, but I was given the run around all day until I called back hours later to request a manager, who was on "lunch" and then not actually there. My option was to be charged more to have another room because I had a dog (for which had already been accounted for). My mistake was not giving back room keys when I left at 9am. I've honestly never had such a disappointing experience.

    « A nice place in Encinitas »

A good location with a quality breakfast. Pet friendly and a roomy suite for two of us and our dog. Having 2 televisions was nice but wise the sofa was larger than a loveseat. There was certainly room for a larger sofa in this roomy suite.

    « A great value »

This hotel is a great value. It seemed recently refurbished in a modern decor (somewhat austere so could use a little cozying up). Has many of the amenities of a more expensive hotel. The service was very good. Shower was excellent but sink had very low water pressure. That was the only thing not functioning properly. Everything else was clean and in good working condition. We really appreciated the full breakfast that was included.

    5
    « JUST PERFECT »

We had options where to stay and knew this was an okay place, The place has new management and the rooms are being remodeled the staff are al ways on the look out if you need anything the internet is supper fast the free breakfast was delicious with different meals every day, even at 5 star hotels I had issues, not this weekend. To make a long story short, we are never considering any where else. Thank you Best Western Encinitas!

« Great location for a great price but not the most comfortable room. Pretty basic with good value »

The location is great we able to go enjoy the beach and the shops and restaurants and the value was great for the price. The room was pretty basic and wasn't very comfortable. The cleanliness wasn't the best but it wasn't bad either.

    5
« Loved our stay in this newly remodeled, very upbeat, great location inn. »

We stayed for 4 nights in this inn that is nicely updated, freshly painted, bright and light filled. The breakfast room and pool with patio appeared newly built. Location is great...can walk to Moonlight beach, shops & restaurants. Enjoyed the huge balcony off our room. Parking is undercover.

    5
« FANTASTIC SMALL BEACH HOTEL »

Recently beautifully remodeled hotel, inside & out. Great rooms, ocean views, nice pool & Jaquzzi in garden setting, yummy large selection free continentail breakfast, friendly-knowledgeable-helpful staff, great beach location in small north San Diego town of Encinitas. Always a relaxing joy to be there.

    4
    « Comfy Beds »

Stayed here one night on a motorcycle trip. Room was good. Sink Faucet ran very slow. Breakfast was standard eggs, bacon, waffles, etc.served in an enclosed building next to the pool. Wouldn't have stayed there at the normal price, but got the night free with our BW rewards points.

    3
« Neat property; staff needs more training »

The property/buliding is really neat and we loved the GIANT balcony (unexpected). Your bathrooms need a towel bar, ring, or rod near the sink. UNDER the sink is not a convenient place and there is plenty of wall space. The breakfast was somewhat less than we have come to expect from the other BW properties we frequent. Your staff made us a bit concerned for their knowledge and training (or lack thereof). There was no mention of our platinum status upon checkin- we did not get asked whether we would prefer points or a snack bag (received neither), there was some confusion regarding the room rate (our card was put on hold for over $300 even though we were paying with points - there is no way $300 plus dollars is just an incidental hold), and while your staff was friendly enough, none of them instilled confidence in the customer that the billing issue would be handled correctly. We stayed with friends who ALSO paid with points, and their preauthorization hold was only $30 so something is definitely not right with the way the staff is trained. **updated to add that I just checked my account and the hold HAS dropped off, but it should never have been that much to begin with**

« Best Western Moonlight Beach Encinitas CA »

Recent upgrades and improvements to facility were apparent. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was a conscious effort at keeping things clean and tidy. Good breakfast options too. Location is fantastic, within sight of the Pacific and Moonlight Beach. Plenty of dining options nearby.

    « Not recommended! »

My husband and I stayed at this hotel twice, for a few weeks each time. We visit San Diego twice a year. The second time we stayed, while parked in the parking garage, our car and the one next to it, were broken into even though they supposedly have security cameras with someone watching the garage. It is very hard to get in and out of the hotel, the best way is trough the Denny's parking lot next door. They do have a continental breakfast that is near the pool area and they give you an ID card that you must make available for inspection by the non-attendant breakfast personal. They often ran out of various breakfast items because the people that are in charge of the breakfast either do not care or they are not paying attention. When notified that some breakfast items are out, they do not seem to care. The second time we stayed there, we had make reservations many months earlier and requested one of the suites with a king bed and kitchenette. When we arrived they gave us a room a queen bed and without a kitchenette. When we told the woman at the desk that we reserved the room that we requested, she did not seemed to care either. When we asked if we could be moved into one of the rooms with kitchenette, the manager acted like we were making an unreasonable request even though we paid to stay in a king size suite with kitchenette for about 20 days. After much complaining and promoting they moved us to a room with a queen size bed and kitchenette for a few days until the type of room we actually wanted became available. It was a big hassle to have to move everything in the middle of our stay. Overall, the impression that we got is that they do not care about their repeat guests - even when they stay for longer periods of times. We now stay at a much better hotel, the Econo Lodge in Encinitas when we visit twice a year. The Best Western, because of their poor treatment of loyal guests, have lost us forever as customers. This unfriendly hotel is not recommended.

    « Good stay »

My 3 night stay was comfortable. The room was really large. The beds were extremely comfortable. Everything was clean and the property was nice and I felt safe. The downside was noise from the highway.

    5
    « Superconvenient »

Always love staying here, easy access to everything. Check out Lazy Acres grocery store across the street while there as well! Great beach access, easy on and off of I-5. Near the Surfliner express to either San Diego or LA, and within walking distance of local restaurants.

    1
    « Horrible management »

The hotel felt old and worn down. Things like the bed and sheets were not very high quality, especially for the price. The hotel room itself is a below average to average room but the check in was horrible. At check-in, they asked for an email address. When I was giving them my email address, the manager was standing next to the person checking me in and asked me about the email address (I have my own domain with unlimited email addresses so I usually use unique email addresses for each company to be able to cut down on spam). He concluded that I was giving them a fake email address and told the associate to just write down ?unknown?. I told him that it's my real email and he said, once again, write down unknown. And fed me some lie about how their whole computer system shuts down if an email address looks weird. Riiiight. So if you want to stay in an old hotel with an incompetent manager that accuses you of being a liar, stay here.

« Other than check in staff »

Our stay was pretty good. The check in staff was not very helpful, nor very friendly. After that, the stay was fine. It was nice to be close to the beach. When my husband went down to the front desk to get items for our in room kitchen that wasn't stocked upon check in, the gentleman at the front had his shoes off and was playing on his phone. It was very unprofessional. We felt like we were bothering them any time we asked for something. Other than that, it was fine. I would suggest that if you are going to offer kitchens and charge guests extra for them, don't make it a hassle to get dishes and cooking supplies for them. It took us several phone calls just to get our kitchen finally stocked.

    4
    « personal »

Overall the stay was very good. The few problems were related to reservation process glitch. It was corrected, but the original rate was slightly higher at check-out. I did not complain then and expect no further action now.

    5
    « Encinitas Inn »

The inn over looks the ocean and each room has a patio balcony. The condition of the building was very attractive and clean. The surroundings were beautifully landscaped with a enclosed pool area the served as the dining room. The inn sets on the top of a hill over looking Encinitas with easy access to the freeway.

    « Worst BW EVER! »

Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Staff, cleanliness, lay out of rooms, quality of appliances, bed comfort. All terrible. I've stayed at several best westerns across the country. This one is by far the worst I've ever stayed at. Only good thing it had going was it was close enough to the beach. Don't stay here!!!!!!

Great location on the coast in Encinitas. Rooms w/ ocean views and some w/ full kitchen for families. Located next to Rail and bus transportation and downtown area w/ shops and restaurants. Moonlight beach near by.

« Incredible location in Encinitas California »

We were there for our daughter's wedding which was just one mile up the hill at the San Diego Botanical Gardens. The hotel is located near the beach in a fabulous location. The rooms are huge and they include kitchens and large outdoor terraces, many with ocean views. The hotel design is very unique and well done. The breakfast room is poolside and we enjoyed the food and the service. Our dog Skyler was welcome to stay as well.........

« Above average, but not outstanding »

We stayed two days in an ocean view room for $144 per night. The good: our room had a terrace and chaise and a nice westerly view; we had good wifi and a large new flat screen with DirecTv; the location was convenient for downtown and other sights, though walking involves a steep uphill climb; the breakfast was free and satisfactory; the desk was responsive when our room key didn't work--the lock was repaired promptly. The not so good: The hotel is showing its age, looking a little "tired." the lobby area is dark and uninviting; some of the front desk staff could be a little more friendly.

    4
    « 38th annual Wavecrest woodie weekend »

20% rate increase over last year's stay at the same hotel, same weekend. Our group comes here every year at the same time. New management has charged our group for additional ammenities that were previously included. And, as stated above, the room rates have significantly increased. Clean, well located hotel.

    « Love this Hotel! »

This is a wonderful hotel to stay at , rooms are very clean, staff is attentive and friendly. It is close to shopping, food and the beach. You can drive a short distance to the Zoo, museums, Legoland & lots of other fun places.

    « BED BUGS & ants »

I checked into the 1st room and noticed many small ants. On the desk, the headboard and the floor. I was moved to a different room where I slept for 1 night. In the morning I woke up and saw a bed bug on my pillow ! I have a picture of this and I have my receipt from check out which in the reference area say BED BUGS

    5
    « Fantastic Beach Hotel »

I recommend this Hotel to all my friends and relatives. It Excellent across the board with any Cons. I have no complaints. The quality of rooms and service is beyond expectation. Just a few blocks to the lovely village and famous Moonlight Beach. N/C covered parking and a well equipped gym w/free weights. The staff is very professional and the service is prompt. I highly recommend this Gem of a Hotel to all.

    4
    « Great location »

Stayed over Labor Day weekend. Nice room, except for the lack of a dresser! There is no place to store your undies and T-shirts, except your own suitcase! I loved sitting out on the balcony, even though smoking isn't allowed, even outside. Long trek to the road to smoke. Oh well, smokers are a dying breed anyway. Pool is very nice, breakfast fine. Minimal view of the ocean.

    5
« Perfect place for us »

This will be our go to place when we visit family. The setup was really nice and every person there was pleasant. There were lots of great choices for breakfast and everything was clean and nice. We will be back for sure.

    4
    « Great Hotel »

Excellent value for the price. Family friendly. Staff are very courteous. We love to stay there when we go to Legoland as it is only about 15 minute drive and then we got to enjoy what Encinitas has to offer.

    5
« Great views of Moonlight Beach »

Friendly staff. Rooms are clean and accommodating. The only issue I had was that there were no patio chairs (only 1 lay down lounge chair) which made it hard to enjoy the views that we paid extra for.

    3
« Ants in the bed!!!! Lots of ants!!!! »

At least they weren't bed bugs!!! But really. When I spoke to the front desk they said that this sometimes happens and the rooms were sprayed recently. I guess they forgot mine. Other than that the room was nice the free breakfast was good and if it wasn't for the ants, I would have added at least another star. Oh and was never offered any compensation but I also didn't ask. But they should have offered something besides an apology.

    « A Gem by the Sea »

We decided to celebrate a special occasion with a trip down the coast and day at the track in Del Mar. Living within an hour of Del Mar, we could have easily just called it a day trip, but we thought it fun to make it a mid-week getaway. I looked for rooms near the track and the ocean with a view and had trouble finding one that met our criteria. There were many offerings, but few had an ocean view without breaking the budget. The Inn & Suites at Moonlight Beach was close enough for us and offered ocean views. Also, it had free WiFi, parking and no 'resort' fees. Overall the property is in great shape with the grounds and exteriors looking fresh and inviting. The spacious room looked recently remodeled, with glass enclosed travertine tile showers and granite counter tops. The King bed was comfy and there was a mini-fridge built into the dresser. The large ocean view patio could accommodate a dozen friends. Of special mention is Karen at the front desk. She was very welcoming and knowledgeable. She greeted us with a big smile and had taken the time to notice and congratulate us on our special occasion. She remembered and did so at checkout as well. It's employees like Karen that make your stay extra special and memorable. The only downside was that the sliding screen door to the patio would not stay on the track, rendering it almost useless. That being said.. We will be back!

« BW at Moonlight Beach Shines »

Hotel is located in an excellent location for 7 minute walk to the beach. Ideally located for parking the car and walking to downtown Encinitas and restaurants. Also good location for places of interest that we wanted to enjoy on this trip: San Diego Botanical Gardens & Batiquitos Lagoon Trail. Everything you need for a very nice breakfast.Rooms are spotless and employees professional and extremely courteous.

    « Location Location Location »

Best thing about the place is the location. Walking, driving or Uber/Lyft to main attractions. Pool area nice. 235.00 too high for a Best Western. Next to train station a plus but you can hear the train.

« Great hotel and 10 Minute Walk to the Beach »

We stayed in a room with a kitchenette. Brian was extremely friendly and helpful and made our stay very pleasant. We also rented a cot for $10/day. The free breakfast was pretty good - donuts, cereal, oatmeal, waffles, fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, juices, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and a few other items that kept us full most of the day. It probably saved me $50-$75/day since I didn't have to eat out at a restaurant for breakfast and lunch. The pool was fun and that hot tub was a good touch. My family loved the pool and spent as much time in the pool area as they did at the beach. The hotel provides towels for the pool area too. They were out one night, so I called down and Brian (again, Brian is awesome) said he would take care of it. We had towels within just a few minutes. This room was expensive but in line with what other hotels were charging during the summer. We had a king bed, sofa bed and rented a cot, which worked well for 2 adults and 2 large teenagers. It was well worth it. We used the washing machine and dryer too - they worked very well. The fridge/freezer was big, so it was perfect for our family for 3 days. Regular grocery stores were within 2-3 miles. Parking is free (not every hotel has free parking). This isn't the best hotel ever, but my family loved it. It was clean. I was worried that some rooms allow pets, but I didn't detect any pet odor, hair or any sign of a pet staying in the room. We didn't hear any noisy neighbors, the pool area was always pleasant and the room was clean. Overall - our experience was great and I would recommend staying here. I haven't stayed at a Best Western for over 30 years because I considered them below average, but my opinion has changed. I would stay at this Best Western again and I will consider staying at another Best Western in the future.

Great stay! Had a nice stay with my daughter. Great location...everything is close by. Great food choices and fun shopping! I would definitely stay here again. Nice pool area as well. Short walk to the beach!

    « Easy beach access »

Overall this hotel was very good for the price and the easy location to moonlight beach. Breakfast was not bad, but could be better. Some days the scrambled eggs were too watery. I liked that the rooms were very spacious and each room included a balcony. This came in very handy after a day at the beach to allow for clothes to dry out there or just enjoy relaxing and listening to the ocean waves.

« Great hotel but poor customer service »

As a hotel staff member you have the power to shape how a guests stay can turn out, our first experience through a telephone call with the General Manager on the morning of our arrival date made for an unpleasant start to our stay. Because of this I will not return to this hotel which is sad because everything besides the customer service given to me was amazing. Special thank you to Justin the front desk manager for showing kindness towards my family and going out of your way to make us feel comfortable.

    « Hidden Gem »

This hotel was clean, has comfortable beds, and had great views of the ocean off the balconies. It is only a 10 minute walk to Moonlight Beach State Park and to the shops and restaurants on the main drag. The home made ice cream shop on the corner is only a 5 minute walk and is delicious. The continental breakfast was great with your choice of eggs, sausage, bacon, and waffles. This is a hidden gem in Encinitas.

    « Encinitas experience »

We enjoyed our stay in Encinitas and the quality of the hotel was fine for what we needed. It was close to family that we were visiting nearby, the beach and nice park for the kids to play. We enjoyed a partial view of the ocean on the balcony after long days out with family.

« Mediocre Hotel in Encinitas »

Spent one night at this Best Western in Encinitas. It appeared that the room had been partially remodeled? The bathroom had an older style bathtub but new thick glass shower doors installed and newer tile and shelf. Looked like newer flat screen tvs, lamps by the beds but mysteriously, not modern with outlets to charge phones/devices (I had to unplug the old alarm clock on the nightstand to charge my phone). That is not acceptable for a "remodeled" room. The elevator clearly has not been redone. It had a toxic smell so I only used it once. This is a hotel that allows pets, which can create mess and problems with noise. As we walked to our room, could hear what sounded like a small dog barking incessantly a few doors down. Also, there was a fair amount of noise at the pool which would likely impact a good number of rooms facing it. Suggest request a room away from the pool area. The room was a good size with kitchenette and a fairly large fridge. This would be good for a longer stay I suppose, but this Best Western would not be my choice of hotel for a longer stay. Room was on the first floor, so no view. Location is pretty good, walkable to the downtown area and Encinitas Beach, possibly why the rates are so high for what seems like an old and average hotel. The room cost was about $75 more than what I believe they should be charging. Also, the sheets on the bed had a weird feel, not cool or clean feeling. Breakfast was what I have come to expect from Best Western over the years, a lack of tables, crowds of people trying to navigate too small a space, and limited items to choose from. Alas, this was only a short stay and I shall not return.

    « Head's up to pet owners... »

This hotel is great: facilities are clean, upgraded and good quality. We have stayed in Marriott Courtyards and Embassy Suites in the past and this one is equivalent to or better than those in many ways. The price point for a hotel so near the beach in San Diego is fantastic as well. Service and housekeeping was very good as well. If you have a pet be aware that you may only choose from certain rooms. You have to look through each type of room to find which ones qualify. If you don't do this on your end, the system does not let you know and you may find yourself stuck without a pet friendly room when you arrive. This was our experience - we chose the "wrong" type of room without realizing it, even though we noted that we had a small dog and our reservation was confirmed. Manager Vicki was wonderful in helping us resolve the issue, but we will know better next time. This seems to be an issue with the overall Best Western reservations page, not this individual hotel. Feedback for the Best Western reservations site: please include "pet friendly" on your list of room filters! :)

« Great place to stay when visiting moonlight beach »

We have stayed here yearly when enjoying moonlight beach. Hotel had some fresh paint and updated bathrooms , however door frame was terribly rusted and crumbling. Otherwise room was clean and quiet. Breakfast is good. Pool and spa refreshing except part of the pool deck was badly broken near the ladder.

    « 4th July holiday stay »

It was very nice sized room with kitchenette area that was perfect for family stay with two small children. Had plenty of space for Pack-N-Play, mini cot, and having option for in room dining and equipment for beach storage (i.e so didn't have to keep in vehicle).

Its 5 36 pm I made a reservation for 4 nights yesterday and explained we would be arriving in San Diego so probably close 830 by the time we would check in.He advised me I had 24 hours to cancel as that it was no problem..I called 4 45 and they would NOT accept the cancelation plus the reservation is now 50$ cheaper if you look on line WOW NO customer Service ..No Heart..And the rudest of response We have stayed here at least 15 times and surprised a business would be so quick to loose a long time customer..I wonder if the owner Victor Patell knows how his business is treating their customers

« Great place to stay! »

We loved our stay, wished we were there longer! The hotel is beautiful and conveniently located. It is the best choice compared to others in the area. The room was nice, the pool was great, and the garage was easy to access.

« Vicki Hinkle and staff did NOT want to make it right »

pool restroom closed after 9:30AM. We asked Vicky Hinkle, General Manager, to open the restroom for our family to use. She insisted we use the lobby restroom in our bathing suits. She refused to "make it righ" BW posted service promise at check-in states "We want to make it right." Management does not care about guests.

What a surprise! I had no idea this hotel which I had passed for several years in visits to San Diego was so nice! The kitchen and two TV's were a great surprise. Lots of room for such a great price! I can't wait to bring my husband back to this place! Great value for the money!

« Awesome Customer Service Closest to a Beautiful Beach »

Hotels always are a reflection of their employees. How they treat the guests and how they maintain the hotel is so important. We stayed at this hotel for several weeks and I can tell you that the employees especially Justin (Front Desk Manager) took great care of us. Justin was very professional and his management was a 4 star hotel level. The maintenance and house keeping staff kept the hotel very clean and we never had to ask for anything twice. The hotel was getting painted which looks great. The location of the hotel is excellent being so close to one of the nicest beaches in San Diego county. We were able to watch gorgeous sunsets from a huge balcony. The rooms are large, some with full kitchens. The breakfast is very good with hot food and fresh fruit every day. Again, if you want to be treated right and enjoy a beautiful beach hotel, stay at Best Western Encinitas.

    « A Great Place to Stay! »

We loved staying here. We asked for and got a large, quiet room on the top floor, at the west end. We recommend that location. Our room had a small kitchen, large balcony, and great ocean view. The Inn is on a high bluff, only 5-8 minutes from central Encinitas, and 1-2 minutes from a large grocery store and the freeway (no freeway noise). There's lots of parking, beautiful landscaping, and a pleasant breakfast room next to pool. TIP: our GPS send us a goofy way, so to avoid that, if you come down from the freeway, look for a stop light with a grocery store on right and Denny's on left. Turn left at the light as if going to Denny's, then immediately right. Go across the parking lot and up the hill.

    « ???????? »

Hotel could be nice once renovations are complete. Computer system was a mess. Front desk employees didn't seem competent. Ask for Justin if you want someone who knows what they are doing. Location is good. Not many hotels nearby so choice is limited. Nice small pool and breakfast area. Rooms were very clean but outdated furnishings.

Long weekend, attend a wedding. Close to beaches and terrific little restaurants. Had our dog with us. Hotel has a good set up for dog rooms. They are on the first floor close to the pet exercise area. Our room was a king suite with a nice balcony.

The rooms are out of date and very dark and dreary. It's within walking distance of the beach and downtown Encinitas, but otherwise I would not stay here again. Overpriced for the quality of the room.

« Pretty good hotel choice »

Hotel needs major remodeling - not just paint this and that and call it good. We are not trying to put you guys down, we want you to succeed. Please update and remodel this Best Western. Yes, we noticed the updated and awesome breakfast area, pool area, stairs, and elevators, but you guys really need to update all of the rooms too. Add fans into bathrooms, improve lighting in rooms, improve water pressure, update to newer firmer mattresses, and include microwaves in all rooms. Thank you.

« Great Location, Dated Rooms »

Over all you can't beat the location! The customer service was great! The bed was a bit soft and bouncy for my taste but overall pretty comfy. The pool area is really nice. The decor in rooms are very dated and a bit worn out. We skipped the free breakfast as it is continental, cafeteria style. Overall, a good place if you don't plan on being in the hotel room much. Which is good it you are on vacation! get out and have some fun!

    « Good location »

    « Dirty room »

The outside of the hotel is beautiful and has a great view of the ocean. We have stayed in many best westerns and by far this one was the worst. When we got into the room right away we noticed all the stains on the floor and on the couch that had a pull out bed. The bathroom had mold that was growing into the grout. We would have left but as it was spring break there was no vacancys in surrounding area. We sucked it up and made the best out of it but it certainly did put a damper on our stay. We thought we would show up a day early so we can lounge by the pool before our busy day at legoland. After getting all ready we got down to the pool where it was filled with freezing water so we decided to get into the jacuzzi as I walked over to check on my children I saw there was lots of dirt and hair floating at the top! I told them to get out and I will call down to see if they could clean it for the following day. When we went back to the pool after our long day filled with fun the jacuzzi was indeed clean so we decided to hop in and relax as we were sitting there we noticed there was algae that started to grow on the outside of the jacuzzi. We were so bummed because I love best western and feel it fits our families needs but for the almost $200 a day price tag I definitely feel we were gypped for our money.

« The BEST choice for a family hotel while exploring! »

We did a 14 day tour of California. Southern. Encinitas was on our list and there were so few choices. We didn't want to spend an arm and a leg, but we wanted in the midst of it all, clean, inexpensive. We found it. From the cute rooms with scenic windows , to the free breakfast, to the CLEANLINESS. This was a great choice for a hotel you could keep your things in, lay your head down at night, and be near EVERYTHING!!! Moonlight beach was all we thought it would be and more. This was our familys most special vacation ever to date!!!! So much to do in Encinitas, dont waste it by spending tons of money on a hotel!! This is a town you get out and DO!!!!!!!!!!!!

« Close to town and the beach »

And that's about all it has going for it. Staff was courteous but distracted. Room was comfortable but noisy and a touch smelly. View was of the ocean but at an awkward angle. Some small gripes: We are Best Western Rewards members, and there were welcome bags sitting there at check-in...but I didn't get one. (Maybe I needed gold status or something.) We were given 1 continental breakfast ticket for 2 people for 2 nights, and when we called down to inquire...no answer. We were out of the room all day and it wasn't cleaned until we called down to request it. I booked through the Best Western Rewards app and was not offered the AAA rate. Later, when I discovered that rate existed, Best Western wouldn't switch it for me, so we paid about $50 extra. (That last bit was not the fault of this particular property, but still is worth noting so no one else is locked out of that rate!) We still had fun walking to town and beach. I'm going to avoid Best Western in the future, but if I weren't, I'd be willing to stay here again.

    « Noisiest hotel ever! »

Next to freeway and train. You will not sleep well here. Rooms are big, kitchen was nice and close to town and beach. But it's proximity to freeway and train make it impossible to get a restful sleep.

« Nice location but needs repairs. »

This property was located right off the highway with free parking and a great free breakfast. Service was poor and the room had mold stains on the ceiling and a strong musty smell. The balcony was dirty and the patio below us was covered in dog poop and pee. Not a pleasant smell to step out to. There was no hot water during peak times and the elevators were broken. Janitor was more friendly than the front desk clerk who was rude, untrained, and unprofessional.

« Moonlight Beach stay for Surf Madonna Race »

I chose this hotel as it is within walking distance of the race start. Turned out to be a great place to stay. Location was great and within walking distance to shops, restaurants and of course the beach. The hotel room was a queen and the furniture layout was a bit odd as there was a large open space?? in the living room area. On the plus side it has FREE parking! Ask for high up as the floors above us have been remodeled. There are plans per the management to add an onsite restaurant and upgrade the rooms. The rates are seasonal and they are high in that neighborhood but in the fall it was a bit cheaper then the summer high season.

    « Lovely »

Good prices, Very nice rooms and clean! CLEAN. We live less than 50 miles away and stay here anyway because it's a nice little get away. Moonlight Beach is awesome because it has concession stands and restrooms, a park and playground, fire pits, and volleyball! The surrounding area has many choices for dining, shopping, and the Meditation Garden is always worth a walk through.

    « Don't Do It !!!!!!!!!!!! »

Horrible and I'm trapped!! I travel for business 2-3 weeks out of the month. I am diamond status at Hilton and Best Western. Booked this hotel through my corporate account. I have never disliked a hotel as much. I always request a room on upper floor away from noise as I work day and night shifts every day and find it quieter. On admission I was told by front desk that I wouldn't get upper floor because I booked thru third party. The room I was given was at the farthest end of building, not only close to highway noise but I will have to walk this long outdoor corridor in the early morning hours every night. Upon entrance the horrible smell hits you! Its like a wet 1970's carpet smell. I thought this can't be the only room available ....the parking lot is empty and its Tuesday....Im booked for a week, I'm diamond member....its my 3rd week this month at a Best Western......NO!!! The front desk clerk, Eric, tells me with a smirk no less. I book all my rooms through this site and have yet to be treated like this, or have such an issue. He seemed to relish in telling me I was stuck with this room. As I read over the fine print, yes Im stuck here or forfeit 100% weeks cost. This will be chalked up to learning....Now I'm stuck with a horrible smelling room, old bed that sinks in the middle, sheets that are so old they feel like your laying on sand, patio that faces a highway is loud and the furniture is rusted and layered with dirt. TV keeps cutting out....and its my first night of 5.......If your booking from a third party through your corporation etc.....DON'T DO IT!! You will be treated horribly and given the worst room available.......I come to San Diego frequently for work....It will NEVER be here again.....!!

« Surprisingly good and value for money »

We spent 2 nights here in a king room with ocean views. The room was quite large and the bed very comfy, although the ensemble was placed on a wooden base which made it a little higher than normal! The balcony offered a nice outlook toward the ocean (couldn't see the actual beach). Breakfast was provided down by the pool and it was a lovely setting. Pretty normal Best Western breakfast with a good variety. It is easy walking distance to restaurants in Encinitas and to the beach. It is quite near the railway line so do you do get a little noise as the trains come through, but we weren't disturbed by it.

« Great Deal with kitchenette »

Booked this last minute. Very nicely updated rooms. Ours had a beautiful kitchenette with no additional fee, with a full fridge, 2 burner stove, and a microwave. Room was only $126 with AAA rate! Had 2 queens and a sofa bed. Only small complaint is that the sofa beds are short and mattress too thin..So it was uncomfortable for our 6' teenager. Breakfast was a very nice continental. It had the usual continental items plus a few surprises... fresh raspberries, sliced almonds, Greek yogurt and almond milk. Nice pool and jacuzzi area.

    « Good value. »

A recent Convention in Del Mar brought us to this hotel in Encinitas where we spent 5 nights. We found this hotel to be a good value and exceeded our expectations in some areas. The room was very clean with clearly attention given to maintenance. The room was larger than the average hotel room with a balcony that we were able to see the ocean and watch the sun set. The queen beds were comfortable and the linens appeared to be of good quality. The room was cleaned very well daily and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The only thing that was lacking for us was the size of the refrigerator. It was a small dorm-sized frig but worked out in the end. Not actually a problem, just preference. The parking garage is well lit and clean with excellent access to elevators. The breakfasts were pretty much what we've encountered in other BW hotels. The ladies kept plenty of hot and fresh food available and were very friendly and helpful. (I especially liked the sausage patties.) Access to I-5 is very easy. The hotel is within walking distance of (downtown) Encinitas and the beach. Shopping and restaurants abound within about a 5 mile radius. The hotel staff was knowledgeable of the area and were very forthcoming with directions and personal favorites. As hotel prices in So. California go, this was a moderately priced hotel which met all of our usual experiences - plus. We would definitely stay here again should we be making another trip to the area.

« Not as nice as it used to be »

This was our 4th stay at this hotel in 5 years. We had a king room with ocean view. That is the best part of this hotel, the view and proximity to the beach. The remodel done over 5 years ago included travertine tile in the showers, which is porous and leads to mold growth. When we walked into the room, the odor of mold was obvious. The little refrigerator was not working, front desk had someone up to the room within minutes. The fridge was unplugged...he plugged it in and it kicked on. He left and I began to put our things into the fridge when I noticed mold growing at at the seal on the bottom and along the bottom of the door. I cleaned it, but it was disgusting. Then, when my husband took a shower, he noticed big dots of mold growing on the ledge next to glass in the shower. A maintenance man came and poored bleach on it and let it set for 15 minutes. It did help, but then we had to smell bleach for awhile. The bed was very comfy, but the sheets are a little worn and the fitted sheet did not want to stay on, and slipped off constantly as we slept. As if that is not enough...the wifi in our room kept kicking us off, so it was extremely frustrating to use. I don't remember having that problem before, but this time we were the furthest from lobby that we have ever been, 3rd floor far west end, #303. We will probably stay there again, just because we love the location, but will be sure to go when rates are really low, so we don't feel that it was not worth the cost.

    4
    « Quiet location »

This hotel is located at the top of a hill so the area is reasonable quiet as it is away from the road & surrounding buildings. The room was similar to others in this price range & was clean with everything working. The only downside being that there was only a shower & not a bath tub (which I prefer) Saying that it was a big shower area & I guess the area was once occupied by a tub. Breakfast was located in a pleasant room next to the pool. Hotel is walking distance from beach & restaurants. Parking was good with surface & undercover parking & a separate undercover parking area for those drivers or passengers with disabilities. Some areas of the hotel were a bit dated but did not spoil our stay. Would probably stay again if in the area.

    « YUCK! »

I use this hotel annually as it is the host hotel for an event I participate in. The rooms are adequate but the beds are tiny. The front desk service is, sometimes, non-existent. Parking during the event week-end is a mess - they need some controls. If another hotel were available, I would use it. This one ranks as a last resort choice.

    « A varied experience »

This review was difficult to complete as I had two opposing experiences at this hotel. Our stay was for 3 nights. The first night's stay was MISERABLE due to the air conditioning not functioning and an extremely foul smell in the room. The 2nd and 3rd nights were wonderful as we were provided a different room. Upon the initial check in I informed the front desk that there was a musty-chemical terrible and sickening smell in the room. Since there weren't any similar rooms to change us to, it was recommended that we leave the sliding door open when we went out for the evening. I followed the recommendation and upon return closed the door and turned on the a/c for the remainder of the evening. We were unaware that the a/c did not work. Also, the smell did not dissipate. It was sickening. The room temp. was 75 degrees all night and too hot for a restful sleep combined with the odor. Needless to say, we were exhausted the following day! In the morning, the front desk was able to change our room. The next room was wonderful and we slept well and enjoyed the remainder of our stay. I requested compensation from the manager due our horrible experience the first night. She said she would provide something. Upon check out, I was given a $30 credit for our inconvenience. I told the woman I checked out with that the amount was inappropriate. She took my phone number and said she would have the manager call me to discuss my concerns, as the manager was out of the office while I was checking out. I have never heard from the manager. Trust me when I say that the difference from the quality of our stay from the first night to the 2nd and 3rd was worth significantly more than $30! A room in the condition of our first night's stay should have NEVER be rented out to anyone.

    « A really lovely stay! »

We just stayed here over the recent Labor Day weekend. We had such an enjoyable stay! The rooms are very spacious and we had a lovely kitchenette (with slab granite countertops!). Our large deck had ocean views and the fitness center was conveniently located just 2 doors down. Their pool area is beautifully landscaped and is serenely quiet (most people went to the beach so we had the pool virtually to ourselves). A complimentary breakfast is offered each morning in the welcoming cabana off the pool area and offers a large variety of really good breakfast choices. The staff was super friendly as well. We will definitely stay here again!

« Best Hotel in Encinitas »

I lived in Encinitas for 21 years, but recently moved to Oregon. Upon my visit I knew I would stay at this Best Western. The hotel exceeded my expectations and I had a wonderful experience. The rooms have been remodeled, very comfortable with easy access and unbelievably clean. The breakfast was very nice and the location is a cabana off the pool. Again, very clean, pleasant and good food.

« Used to be a good value »

Sadly, my family and I choose other places to stay in San Diego each month. This was our "go to" hotel where we've stayed ~10 stays/year. They've had a management change for the worse! I've spoken to Vicki on more than one occasion and she didn't seem to care at all that we've stayed here for over 12 years! Many rooms need updating. It's become pretty loud some weekends. The new wall around the pool looks like it belongs in a prison. Parking up top is problematic at times. The breakfast offerings just aren't very good. The prices have skyrocketed. What used to be a gem turned into a lump of coal. Sad but true.

    « Fabulous New Adventure »

I am physically disabled and was surprised at the wonderful ADA room accommodations as the room was huge with separate toilet/shower room and included a little kitchenette with bar counter. Only glitch was the high bed (not in ADA guidelines) for which I had to have my caregiver help me up along with my little stool. TV stations great and WiFi a breeze. But only one ADA parking space outside our room. so we had to improvise after our evening return. This place is one of the best Best Westerns I have stayed in and hope to come back again!

« Average but nice ocean view »

Clean hotel, friendly staff. Had some issues with housekeeping (didn't clean room one day as they leave at 4pm). Breakfast choices basic but filling. Great ocean view from balcony and relaxing pool/jacuzzi. A simple upgrade on the balcony furniture would increase value. Furniture was rusted, stained and broken. However, we would return as location is ideal and bedroom comfortable. Upgrading to view room is worth it.

    « Great Experience »

I love that I felt like I was staying at my own condo rather than a hotel room. The grounds are peaceful and beautiful, the sunsets are amazing from the balcony, and you can walk to the beach in 5 mins.

    « Don't believe the stars »

We stayed at this hotel for my sons baseball tournament. In fact it was the whole team and parents staying here. They "lost" the coaches reservation, so he didn't get the group rate and they wouldn't buge about it. It was so infested with ants that 3 families actually left to stay at another hotel. There were ants in our clothes, drawers, bathroom, kitchen, and bed. The room smelled like mold when we got there. The front desk staff that I interacted with were very unsympathetic with our issues and for the most part were very rude. Our door lock broke so we couldn't use our key cards until maintenance came and changed the battery. The pull-out beds were broken and horrible to sleep on. The balcony was huge, but the furniture was so old and broken down we didn't dare use it. Every time the neighbors changed the channel our tv blacked out. No fan in the bathroom, just the warning sign on the door, see pictures. Breakfast was powdered eggs and mostly empty whenever we went. The one lone girl working couldn't keep up, not her fault . the maids and maintenance guys were very friendly and helpful. The lobby is in the parking garage and the Wi-Fi never worked properly. They way overcharged for our group, and should refund half our stay. Will never stay there again and will be sure to tell friends and family not to either

    « Serious ANT PROBLEM! »

They are spending alot of money on their pool upgrades so it looks good on their website however they are neglecting the serious ANT PROBLEM they have and the very inconsistent wifi problem they have. In addition, the pullout sofa is ripped and very uncomfortable. No where near the money they charge. We were staying here with several other families and many of them also had ANT issues!

    « Convenient but dated »

The location of this hotel is fabulous but the property is dated and the rooms smell a bit musty. There is a lot of noise from I-5 and the balconies are draped with beach towels. The breakfast was convenient but the choices felt a bit like we were on a space ship -plastic everything. The check-in person was friendly but the check out process was cold and impersonal. We enjoyed being really close to the beach and the town but found the property a bit "gummy".

    « Ants checked in »

We could only handle one night for a 6 night trip. Ants everywhere in the room, horrible AC and crappy wifi. The one bedroom suite was very dark and outdated. The pool area was clean and well maintained. We checked out and moved to another hotel.

    « Great Vacation »

We came to meet friends in Encinitas and this hotel was a perfect location. Close to everything! The hotel staff was wonderful and the room was nice. I would recommend this hotel to people traveling to this area

    « Accomodations »

This hotel is beautiful, open and with ocean view! The location is perfect. The rooms have beautiful balconies that view the ocean and the front entrance of the rooms view the garden and pool. We found it to be very relaxing and beautiful. The continental breakfast provided quite a spread! Seating by the pool or indoors is quite exceptional.

« Always clean & close Dwntwn Encinitas & beach »

Parking is always easy. Sound of the ocean on one side w/the freeway on the other. Place is always clean & near everything we want to see, eat, or do. Staff is always kind & prompt. Bedding was clean & crisp but our bed was extra bouncy. It's vacation so NO COMPLAINTS!!!

« Great location, solid stay »

We visited the Best Western Encinitas recently for a local family reunion. Coming off the freeway it was a little tough to find, the signage isn't prominent but we eventually made it. The hotel's location on top of the hill make for a great view of the ocean from most of the rooms, the best will be had from the lower-numbered rooms on each floor. Check-in was fast and courteous. There was a sign at the front desk alerting guests that the Wi-fi was down and that they were working on it, unfortunately this didn't get resolved during our three day stay. It was good to know that up front. Overall, my two favorite features were the quiet and the complimentary breakfast. We were there during a charity benefit and surfing contest at the beach so the hotel was full but it never felt that way, it was really peaceful. I'm used to a basic continental breakfast at these types of hotels but the BW had a large variety of breakfast foods and beverages as well as bacon and sausage. We didn't get a chance to use the pool/hot tub but we hope to on or next visit, we will definitely be staying here again.

    « Good Value »

A nice place for a couple nights. Decent pool and decent breakfast. Friendly staff. Walking distance to beach (ask about the secret cut through down the hill). Rooms are good sized - room 164 has two beds and a sleeper sofa (they said it is the biggest at the hotel).

    « Best Western Encinitas »

Nice place to stay for a weekend only. It was surprising that there were no drawers to put your clothes in. Where the drawers should have been were to big empty cabinets with a small refrigerator between them. Interesting! I guess they only want weekend folks. We would stay again and lucky for us there was an iron board.

« Another great stay at the BW Encinitas!! »

Big rooms; great view; FANTASTIC breakfast! We LOVE this place!! The staff is friendly and the location is central to beautiful downtown Encinitas and the beach. My husband, daughter (7 years old) and I LOVE the shower! The beds are comfortable and immaculately clean. Thank you for another GREAT stay!!

« Great Hotel Perfect location »

This hotel has very clean amenities, is walking distance to moonlight beach. Easy access to downtown Encinitas, food, shopping, etc. Easy access to freeway with out freeway noise. Twenty minute drive to downtown San Diego. The rooms are very spacious and staff was friendly.

    3
    « Nice but Tired »

Great location. Easy walk to beach, Encinitas, trains. Property is tired. They have made some upgrades, but it feels a bit like lipstick on a pig. Had issues with HVAC and door locks. Fortunately, the maintenance man was prompt and efficient. Front desk staff seem to reflect the tiredness of the property. Pleasant but not genuinely caring. This hotel is a good solid 2 star.

    4
    « Large Room »

The rooms were quite large, we had a sitting area and bed area in the room, the breackfasts were reasonably good, the only down side that I expirienced here was when the Wi-Fi went down, we lost it for the last two days, not having cell service we were relying on this an no one seemed to be bothered to get it sorted, at least that was the impresion I got from staff.

    3
« Nice sized room, near beach, but view of freeway »

We had a king "pet friendly" room. The room was a nice size and bed comfortable. Very nice shower. The room was hot when we arrived, it would have been nice if the air conditioning had been turned on before we arrived - took about a half hour to cool off. Had a nice deck (we had view of freeway), but deck furniture needs updating. Lobby feels like you are walking into the parking garage as it is attached to the garage, and staff could use some customer service training to make you feel welcome. The chair in the room looked like it has been scratched/clawed by previous "pet guests" - leather type covering not a good idea for pets. Our dogs are very quiet, but I was put off by the "pet policy" handed to me at check in that stated you would be asked to check out if 2 complaints were received about pets whining or barking. A pet in the room below us was left outside the room door causing difficulty passing by with our pets down the stairs to the "pet area", another dog in a room near the "pet area" barked continuously when you walked by - but this should be expected in a "pet wing" and a hotel should not advertise as "pet friendly" then immediately hit you with rules that make you feel unwelcome. The designated "pet area" had overflowing, smelly trash can and dog feces left behind in a small patch of grass that had been stepped in and clearly not cleaned for more than a day. We had an SUV pulling a trailer and the parking lot was very narrow and difficult to negotiate.

    « Anniversary »

A little old, but clean and convenient. The view from the room were really beautiful. We walked down the street to a little restaurant for dinner. Someone out there needs to take on the task of rebuilding and reopening the restaurant on the grounds.

« Decent hotel while visiting in the area »

Stayed here while visiting family in the area. Really the best choice in the local area to avoid traveling up or down Route 5 all the time to other hotels. I stayed here previously in 2008 and the hotel is in better shape now. The property and room were cleaner and its good to see they have completed minor renovations, updates and painting. Good continental breakfast included. We had a larger room on the 2nd floor with a partial ocean view from the balcony. It could have used more/brighter lights. The only real complaint is that the room we were in had a slight musty smell we noticed each time we went in, but didn't really bother us after being in the room a few minutes. Because we got in so late to check in, We chose not to request a different room but that reason alone is why I'm leaving my review at 3 stars instead of upgrading it to 4. I'd probably stay here again but would be more selective about the room and likely asking for a higher floor room.

    « Enjoyable Encinitas Stay »

We stayed four nights at BW Moonlight Beach and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Ideally situated for us to walk to the beach and into the local shops, cafes, etc.The reception staff were helpful, particularly ,Leven,? Who helped with Internet problem we had and he gave us suggestions for places to eat and visit. Our King room was comfy and surpassed our expectations. Bed comfy.Breakfast was ample. Fresh fruit , cereal, pastries, eggs , bacon. Waffles were on offer but didn't try them. The pool was good for a swim. Noticed the pool guy was meticulous with cleaning it. Pleasant to sit around pool.Would definitely stay again!

« The worst hotel stay of my life »

I stayed at this hotel from June 24th to June 27th 2016. It was a family vacation in which we had booked three rooms. When I arrived I first noticed late that night that my lock may be broken but I thought that maybe it was in error in how I was operating the lock. When I woke up early @ 7am on June 25th, I inspected the lock and trouble shot a bit to see that it was indeed broken and missing a strike plate. I called the front desk and informed them of the broken lock and was upset that I had been sleeping all night w the lock broken. They told me I had to wait until 8:30am for the general manager and maintenance to arrive. I didn't mind that at first because we were planning to leave for the beach at 9am to get parking & and an early start on our first day on vacation. However the general manager did not arrive until almost 10am and the maintenance was still working on the lock with no progress. I spoke with the General manager- Vicki H. and she was so incredibly rude to me and actually *refused* to speak with me about it and offered no solution or accommodation for my inconvenience. I am still dumbfounded by the severe lack of professionalism from a General Manager! When I spoke with her and introduced myself she cut me off and said she would get back to me "later in the day" - mind you- my belongings were supposed to be left in an unlocked room and I was expected to just be fine with this- when I had already lost my entire morning of my first day of only a two day vacation to be waiting around for her to arrive and for maintenance to fix the lock. She even shouted at me- "I don't know what else you want me to do! I told you maintenance is working on it now!" And when I said "I need you to take care of my inconvenience as I am a paying guest (meaning anything from needing another room or a place to put my belongings that is safe) She then responded saying "Of course you do!" In a condescending tone- insinuating that I am trying to con my way into something free when I simply wanted to not miss anymore time of my vacation especially when I was paying $250+ a night for three nights! She actually used the phrase "I'm done with you" when I asked her to accommodate me in some way other than just asking me to wait longer than the 4 Hours I had already been waiting for my lock to be fixed. I was so embarrassed and confused as to how I was being treated - as I have never had an experience like this at a hotel- that I was in tears! When my sister- who is in hospitality- attempted to speak with her- the GM refused to speak with her or *anyone* in my family. I have had problems at hotels before and I have had things go wrong but I have always been at the very least treated with respect and felt valued as a customer and accommodated for whatever problem or issue arose. My lock eventually was fixed but broke again the next day. I didn't even call customer care or bring it to the GM's attention. All I did was have the front desk call maintenance and I had to wait another 2 hours this time. When I called customer care- I was actually insulted by the care specialist when I informed her that the fist time I noticed there was an issue w the lock was at night and because I didn't call the front desk until 7am- I was insulted as a parent! I had to defend myself saying I didn't realize it was totally broken and was tired from driving 6+ hours from Arizona. I have never received such horrible customer service and felt so devalued as a customer. The only thing I was given was an "apology" and a $30 discount on and $815 bill. This vacation was a nightmare because of the General Manager and one of the customer care specialists. I took time off from work and used our families once a year summer vacation here. I feel so robbed and so terrible and I don't know what else to do other than write this review to possible warn others. -Sanya

« Comfortable, Convenient, and Consistently Good »

Every trip I make to the San Diego area, every 90 to 120 days, include my stay at the Best Western, Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. The Full breakfast, views of the Pacific Ocean and spectacular sunsets, and comfortable accommodations could not be more enjoyable. This Hotel is convenient to the Beach (300 yards away), the quaint town and shoppes of Encinitas, and all of North County.

« Great Hotel, Beautiful View, Love this Hotel »

You know how it is when you book a hotel in an area you are not familiar with, you never know what to expect, and due to my past track record, my wife is always leery. We were both blown away with this hotel. We were traveling in a party of six...two adults and four teenagers (hurray!!). Everyone was very satisfied with this room. When I checked in, the front desk clerk said, "You have one of our best rooms", to be honest, I didn't know if that was good or bad, I've been down that road before. He was right. The hotel was very clean, the room was HUGE, it had a king size bed, a double bed, and a sleeper sofa. The pool area was nice and clean, and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast offerings were outstanding, and the area it was served in was spacious, and again, very clean. We all enjoyed the view from our balcony, and I believe every room has a balcony. The balconies are gigantic in terms of hotel room balconies. It could have had some more furniture on it. The only down side was that the bathrooms could use some updating, but it really didn't matter over-all since the room and the hotel were so nice. It's only an eight minute walk to Moonlight Beach, there is a trail right out the lobby doors that heads you in the right direction. If you need further direction ask the friendly hotel staff, they are more than happy to point you the right way. I cannot say enough about this hotel. We will be back.

    « Nice property »

Stayed here four nights and really enjoyed it. We stayed in a suite and had plenty of room for the four of us. The pullout couch looked like it had seen its better days but served the purpose. The property was close to everything that we wanted to do. Has one of the nicer breakfast areas that we have seen. My only complaint was there was a huge balcony to enjoy the ocean views and enjoy the beautiful San Diego weather but there was only one lounger. I asked the front desk if there was any more patio furniture and they sent up a chair that you would find in a conference room.please invest in some patio furniture so the whole family can enjoy your beautiful patio.

    5
    « Rest place »

An excellent place to rest after a tiring day. The rooms are very clean and the staff are very helpful. The breakfast had a good variety of food although not the same as the other BW hotel we stayed in at the SFO airport. But overall a great place to stay in.

    « Best Western Encinitas »

The shower in the room did not drain while showering. I told the desk the first morning and again the second morning. A maintenance person then came and said he would fix it, but it wasn't fixed. The last morning there, we did not have hot water for showers. The lamps do not give out much light. Don't try to use the plug ins on the very old desk to charge your phone or ipad. Big room. Clean. Lots of parking.

    5
    « Beautiful suite rooms »

If you're sharing with someone on the sofa-bed, be aware the doors between the rooms are glass, so not as private as you may want. Rooms were large and comfy, large fridge and kitchen area. Breakfast has healthy choices along with the regular rolls, waffles, etc.

« Quick trip for Bike Race »

We needed a local hotel for a bike event. The hotel was convenient to where we needed to be. Easy to get to, clean, quite, and overall very nice. I should qualify, the facility was quiet, but if we opened our balcony door we could hear the freeway, it wasn't bad, but noticeable. We knew when we booked it though so no complaint, just letting you know. Staff was very efficient and friendly.

    « A first class experience »

I had never stayed at this property before, but I will be back. I requested a room with a bathtub, and apparently these rooms are in short supply. i was given a lovely room with a patio. while the I-5 freeway is close by, the rooms are well insulated and quiet. The breakfast buffet is well stocked with plenty of choices. A couple of recommendations to make it even better: turkey sausage in addition to pork, and sugar free syrup. Staff were extremely helpful, even checking tide tables to let me know if the tide was in or out at Moonlight beach! The tide was out far enough to allow a great beach walk. And they provided a Milk Bone treat for my service dog! They were very professional about the dog, adn welcomed her. There is even a small grassy area on the 1st floor for pet relief, complete with plastic doggy refuse bags. I was impressed with this property, the friedly staff, and overall comfort.

    « Great Location »

This was a great place to stay, near great restaurants, and close to the beach. This is a great town to just hung out and relax, easy access to freeways, Great place for the quick beach trip or close to Lego Land, or 20 min. to San Diego.

    « excellence in Encinitas »

This is a lovely hotel on a hillside within walking distance to the beach. Our room had very nice high-end furniture and a balcony with a view of the ocean. Our king size bed was very comfortable and, in addition to the mini fridge and microwave, the room had a Keurig coffee maker. We were given a reasonable price for the room and it included indoor parking and a hot breakfast buffet. The breakfast is served in a lovely free-standing building by the pool.

    5
« Great hotel choice for families »

This was a great little hotel for my family stay. The pool was a decent size - the breakfast was fresh and staff was very attentive and friendly. The kitchen could have been better stocked, but it worked for what we needed. My family and I will stay here again

    4
« Nice rooms and layout »

Our third floor room had a view of the coast and the hills. The sliding doors (to the balcony) were soundproof enough that we didn't hear traffic, although the occasional train was audible. There wasn't a dresser in the room but there was a cabinet. We were provided with a microwave on request. The refrigerator didn't have a usable freezer. The breakfast included fresh blueberries, a large pot of oatmeal, and plain yogurt. There is a short-cut dirt trail (through a gate requiring your room key on re-entry) that leads down to S. Vulcan Ave. Restaurants on Highway 101 are within a 10 to 15 minute walk.

    2
« Unless you are a deep sleeper - stay somewhere else »

The hotel is fine - each room has a balcony and you can see the ocean but the train noise is extremely loud and echoes throughout the room. I was up until past 1:30 am and it started again at 5:30 am. Ugh!

    « Terrible Service + Dated Property »

Our room was supposed to be for one queen bed, but it was a full. We immediately went downstairs to see if we could be moved to another room. The hotel staff person had *zero* empathy and didn't really seem to believe us. We asked him to take a look himself to see how small the bed was, and he said he couldn't leave the desk. He made no effort whatsoever to remedy the situation. There were several other rooms vacant for the nights we were staying, but he would not move us. It was a very unpleasant experience. Aside from the bad experience, the hotel is pretty dated and pricey for what you get. Would not recommend staying here.

    4
« Not for the slick but a good choice »

The staff is nicer than most, the building and furnishings are not new and slick but not badly maintained either, really nice stone tile shower. Only one other place in encinitas would i bother to consider. The rooms from about 312 to about 320 not as good a view as the early 300s but might be cheaper. Glad we chose this place.

    4
« Nice BEST WESTERN close to moonlight beach »

Nice BEST WESTERN close to Encinitas moonlight beach, the san Diego botanical gardens and Legoland. The hotel is located up on a hill and usually gets a refreshing breeze. The breakfast buffet is basic, the internet speed varies depending on the room location you get.

I had the best stay ever. I had a room with a view of the ocean. It was heaven. I was able to walk to the beach everyday. I ubered into coronodo for the day. and enjoyed the street fair. I wished i would have stayed longer.

Nice, clean hotel near beach, restaurants.. Pool area being renovated due to complete by June or July. Free breakfast very nice ask for rooms with ocean view. Free garage parking, botanical gardens down the road, some noise from train during day till 10 PM but a great hotel with wonderful service. Have stayed twice and like rooms 303, 04,05,06 views.

    « Family Vacation »

At 3am in the morning we were looking for a hotel for one to two nights, using hotels.com we booked a room at this hotel for all myself, my wife, and my 3 kids. The hotel design is dated, but updates to the rooms are nice. The hotel is about 2 blocks from Moonlight beach which is definitely worth the walk/drive.

« Better places for the price. »

We stayed here with friends otherwise I would of selected another place. We had the room right next to the gym which is on the second floor for some reason. There was a wide gap in the sliding glass door so it could't close all the way. Our friends had the same issue in their room. They had a great breakfast and mostly clean rooms but overall I would never stay there again and not recommend it to friends especially for the money!

    4
« Great location and good value »

The best part of this hotel is its location - walking distance to Moonlight Beach and downtown Encinitas. It is also very close to the commuter train, but we didn't notice any noise. The hotel is a bit dated and the room smelled musty. The breakfast buffet was next to the pool in a nice room, but they struggled with keeping it stocked when there was crowd. The pool was great. Very friendly front desk staff.

    2
« Great location, everything else was poor »

We checked in the hotel at 3:30 pm, Check out was quick, entered the room and it was not clean. when approached the management, they apologized and that was it. we had to use the public restroom at the hotel to freshen up. beds were 20 year old spring mattresses, extremely soft, bouncy, hard to sleep on those, you could hear the train noise because of the quality of the sliding glass door, walls were thin which basically means that you could hear the neighbors.

    3
« Good Value in Encinitas »

Best Western Encinitas Inn & Suites at Moonlight Beach is a rather plain and ordinary-looking motel that we have stayed in for the last decade or so. It is well-located, comfortable, and an excellent value for the money.

    « Best Western California »

Love the location. Right off the 5 and 1 block from Moonlight beach. Downtown is walkilng distance and the train is next door, but you don't hear it. The only problem we encountered was the internet. It was slow in our room, which was far away from the lobby.

    4
« Walk to Beach and Main Street Encinitas »

A large clean room greeted us, weary as we were after a day of traveling and touring. We even had a peek of the ocean from our sizeable patio. This hotel seems very large, but on our Sunday evening arrival, not very busy; check in was quick. There is a center pool and hot tub, which we didn't use, and a pleasant breakfast room off of the pool. Breakfast was good with all the traditional offerings of eggs, bacon, waffles, oatmeal, donuts, coffee, tea, etc.; they even offered Almond Milk. They took my 7 pound dog - so pet friendly, which is a must for us. In the morning, while walking the dog around the complex, I discovered a door that lead down a dirt path towards the beach (versus taking the long steep winding driveway hike to the road). We took it and strolled the main street, window shopping Encinitas along the way; we then walked to the beach (no dogs allowed on the beach). There is no dining, other than breakfast, and the restaurant appears to be either defunct or being remodeled. There is a small amount of construction near the pool, but it was not impactful on us at all. There is a train that runs along the main street and adjacent to the hotel, the Surfliner, but it didn't bother my sleep at all - too tired...woke refreshed and ready for another day of exploration.

    « Great, Affordable, and Family-Friendly »

We loved our stay at Best Western at Moonlight Beach. The added touch of being able to stay in a family suite was awesome-- the small, windowed (and curtained) doors between the main (Queen) bed and the sofa bed in the main area allowed for a nice amount of privacy for my husband and I, without making us feel too separated from our young children. Our boys are very active sleepers, so we requested a foldaway bed in the room for their own sanity: to my pleasant surprise, it was a nice twin-sized bed, and it was already there when we arrived. Great continental breakfast; friendy staff. Close proximity to Moonlight Beach (short, short walk), the train station, and a couple of great parks. I couldn't really ask for more during my vacation. Hint for those new to the area: you can turn left at the first stoplight (by Denny's and Day's Inn), and the hotel is accessible from the same parking lot. No need to do fancy u-turns or multi-road maneuvers to get there. :)

    « A little "jewel" near Legoland »

We decided to go to the Legoland area early, and needed to book a night at the last minute. Though it is not right on the beach, we were surprised what a nice hotel it was. Big room. Nice breakfast. Quiet. Affordable. Good Location. I considered it a little "jewel" of a find. And this is NOT a fake review. I am the grandmother of 13, and my two grandsons loved this place.

    « Nice stay »

Very nice hotel and location within walking distance of downtown Encinitas and beach. Nice breakfast options and pet-friendly. Staff were all courteous and helpful. Up on hillside overlooking beach and nice view, but with the view comes a bit of an uphill and downhill walk to the coast highway and beach. Well worth it though.

We were so happy with everything here. It was my daughter's wedding we and family members came from New Jersey. My daughter lives in Mission Hills she got married in the Botanical Gardens very close to this Best Western I was worried how the accomadations would be. But it turned out to be the perfect place! Very clean so comfortable every room with a balcony, heated pool hot tub. The breakfast was so perfect for our family to meet. And it's not just a regular continental breakfast they have a make your own waffles, fresh eggs, hot cereal and very yummy pastries. Any questions or worries I had were taken care of Claudia the front desk manager she was my angel. Anytime I had I question I could call her from New Jersey and she made it all perfect for us loved her attention to detail. Stay here you not regret it.

« Very Nice Stay At The Encinitas Best Western »

The hotel and grounds were very nice. The location for this trip was perfect. We were right off of State Highway Five and the Pacific Coast Highway was right there also. Very good breakfast every morning and the room was very nice. It was a little dated with the furniture and the parking was sparse outside by the pool but like I said we had a very nice stay.

« Pretty nice and a good location for the price »

The hotel was nice, the room was large and clean, and the beds were decent. We liked that we could get a room to accommodate 6 people. It was a short walk (down a steep dirt trail) to the beach and the shopping/eating areas. The pool was heated, so the kids got to swim in March. The breakfast has a lot of selections, and the breakfast room is nice and large. The view from the balcony was the roof since we were on the first floor, so don't expect that you will definitely get a view just because you have a balcony. The window in the bathroom was at about eye level for the average man, so you can't open the window while showering to let steam out. I guess that's not much of a problem since the water won't get past slightly warm. It's a bit of a hassle to get to the entrance for the hotel from the freeway, since you pretty much have to find a place to turn around where the options are limited. Overall, I would stay there again.

Spacious room, quiet and restful, but furniture wasn't really functional. The furniture that was in the room was OK, a little dated, but not worn. However, despite plenty of room in the suite, there were no table & chairs, just a couch (which was pretty low to the floor) & a coffee table. The mini-fridge had a microwave stacked on top of it - but there was no place to set anything down (a fridge/microwave stand would have been nice). This room had a lovely patio with a view of the ocean, but only one outdoor chair for the suite ??. There were two flat screen TV's, but only one got all the channels. One of the TV's was placed so you could only see it from the couch. So glad I read reviews from other travelers as to location or we would have had real difficulty finding the property even though it's conveniently located. Staff could have made a bigger difference - check-in was less than optimum, but it got better after that. Breakfast was a step up from the usual continental; nice location next to the pool - very relaxing, but don't plan on a 2nd cup of coffee after the posted closing time - they're all locked up.

« Good value for your buck »

The hotel was very nice and quiet, the staff was friendly and the place was clean. The towels for the pool are located in the front and my wife and I could not wrap them around us (they were too small) they were perfect for my toddler. Also the heated pool was very cold (considering is winter) My key for some reason did not work two times and I had to go downstairs to get it reset in only a 24 hour stay. Otherwise, the place was gracefully welcoming.

« nice accommodations for the money »

Great value for the price. Overall, very spacious rooms and comfortable beds - pillows were lumpy. Breakfast was good; lots of variety. It would have been nice to have salsa for the eggs. Water pressure was very low and it took a long time to get hot water in the sink. We will certainly stay there again if we are in the area.

« Pleasant surprise on the hillside »

i was VERY pleasantly surprised by this Best Western. I stayed here with a friend while on a 4 day trip to visit her in Cali. We intended to spend one night here then head down to San Diego. We felt so comfortable here that we stayed two more nights. This hotel was very quiet, clean, and comfortable. The room was huge with a view of the ocean and sunset. The hotel staff and housekeeping was so pleasant, helpful and kind. The bathroom seemed newly updated and was very nice with a glassed in shower. This is not a fancy 5 star hotel, but it is exceptional at what is it. They are painting and updating right now and working on the grounds so it seems they take pride in this property. The breakfast is adequate for this level of hotel and the breakfast hostesses were so sweet and accommodating. Kudos to the manager and staff. Great Encinitas shopping and eateries are just a few blocks away including a Whole Foods. Beautiful Moonlight Beach is an easy walk and a gorgeous family beach.

    « Best Western Ever »

Even when the business is paying and the Hilton or Homewood are options I prefer Best Western. This beauty was a 10 minute walk to the beach, just off the I 5 quiet, relaxing and well maintained. With a car rental my stay here was still cheaper and great quality for my money than other hotels.

    « Nice Hotel »

Nice location on a hill near the ocean. Hotel was very lovely, and the suite had a kitchen. We had 3 adults, and were comfortable with Sofa Bed and a King. We also had our dog, who enjoyed a pet area Location was convenient to San Diego and Pendelton.

« Nice place - Heating System Poor »

I have stayed here many times and it is convenient to Encinitas. After heater performed poorly and maintenance person serviced my unit and volunteered that the heating was slow I moved to two more poorly heated rooms and I am currently waiting for the third room of the night to warm.

    « Enjoyed our stay »

We spent a relaxing time at the Encinitas Inn. Wish it could have been warmer weather so we could have enjoyed the nice balcony & ocean view we had. Room was nicely appointed with comfortable bed & chairs. Breakfast was good and adequate but breakfast room was a little hard to locate and it was quite "chilly" as I don't think there was any heat in there...but had a nice view of the pool and grounds.

    « WONDERFUL!!! »

My husband and I LOVED this place!! We had an awesome view of the ocean from our balcony. The room was super roomy and clean. The shower was PHENOMINAL. The breakfast was fantastic and the bed was dynamic!! The staff were sweet and helpful. It was quiet and close to the beach and the quaint town of Encinitas was only a block away! Will definitely be back.

    « Weekend Getaway »

Had a great weekend here at Best Western Encinitas. It's our second time staying there and we love how close it is to everything in North County. It would be nice if they could get the musty smell out of the rooms, though. I noticed it both times we've stayed.

« Great place to stay with family and dog »

This is a great hotel for traveling with family and a dog. The rooms are spacious and it's great to have a kitchenette. My kids love the pool and we love being so close to great shopping, the ocean and beaches.

« Location, Quality and Value »

We stayed just one night to attend a party in Encinitas. This hotel exceeded my expectations in terms of the size and quality of the room. We had a nice king sized bed, there was additional seating, a desk and a very large, private balcony. The location is walk-able to Hwy 101 where there is shopping, dining and entertainment, as well as an easy walk to the beach. Great Value.

    « Surprisingly good »

We arrived on the afternoon of New Years Eve. We were greeted by a friendly staff. Our room was very spacious and extremely clean. We had a lovely view from our balcony at a sliver of ocean. It provided a beautiful sunset.

« find another place to stay »

worst hotel bed ever - ended up sleeping on the floor-knowingly put us in a room with heat not working - serviceman took 30 minutes and could not fix it - ended up changing rooms-why put us there at all?

    5
    « Comfortable stay »

Blocks from the beach. Outstanding stay! All employees helpful and friendly. All the rooms are updated with nice amenities. would love to spend an extended stay at this facility as its close to town and plenty of shopping.

    « The turn around »

Claudia the manager was a doll sick and all she went out of her way to turn my first impression of the staff around. i really do appreciate the way she handled the situation with understanding. i enjoyed the rest of my stay place was very nice and quiet and i will and do plan on returning.

    « One night stay »

Easy access from the freeway although you may have to look for the driveway entering the property as it is a little hidden at least for us. Very clean room, quiet although this was during the week. Pretty view from balcony. Friendly staff.

    4
    « Nice hotel. »

A good place to stay at a competitive price. Large rooms with a great shower. Nice view on the northern exposure rooms. Down side is access to the hotel as you have to drive through a Denny's parking lot if you are coming from I-5.

    « Check in with a Zombie »

Registration staff was brain dead, gave no welcome upon arrival - just "I'll need a credit card and ID" They did not have the room we requested a month prior to reservation date. Staff gave 3 different excuses as to why our room was not ready, why our request for an ocean view room was "lost in the system". Room was adequate but it would have been nice if there was TOILET PAPER in the bathroom!!??!! At checkout, didn't even get a "Good Morning" or "How was your stay?" only "I'll get your receipt in a moment" Cold, uncaring, zombie-like staff. Was not made to feel welcome at all. Not all Best Westerns are like this, but if you're in the San Diego/Encinitas area, check out the Holiday Inn Express - you'll probably have a much better stay.

    4
    « Pleasant Visit »

Had always wanted to stay at Moonlight Inn. Although it is older, it was a very comfortable visit, the staff was very helpful and friendly, breakfast was very good, the room was very quiet and large, the beds and pillows were very comfortable. Had to ask for a microwave, but had it in less than 10 minutes. Great visit.

    4
« Nice hotel, once you can find it »

This is a nicer-than average hotel, reasonably priced for the area. The location is great. However, if you will be arriving after dark, be sure you get explicit directions how to get to the hotel. It's on the south side of Encinitas Blvd., between Hwy. 5 and the Pacific Coast Hwy. (That's the easy part.) Finding and accessing the driveway can be challenging!

    4
    « New upgrades »

We've stayed at this hotel many times. It is easy access to the beach, race track, Sea World, etc. The new upgrades to the kitchenettes and breakfast room are nice. The freeway noise is a bit loud at times, but the rooms are quiet. Dogs allowed and most rooms have a great ocean view.

    5
« Ocean and Sunset Views »

Hot breakfast with apple fritters and donuts !! Really ? Yes, and I'm from the South too ! This is my hotel preference for trips to San Diego. Convenient to walk to Moonlight Beach and the PacificOcean, and quaint town of Encinitas with it;s shops and dining options. The rooms DO have Ocean and sunset views also.

    « Room/View was Nice! »

Overall a decent stay. Room was very nice and clean with a balcony view of the city/ocean. Only complaint was not an easily accessible changing/restroom for the pool area. Breakfast was good. Had a good night's sleep. Would stay again.

    2
    « Brrr, cold showers! »

Our room was clean, bed was comfortable, but we were not happy about the "cold showers". The water pressure in the sink just trickled out and it made it difficult to even wash your hands or brush your teeth! We complained at the front desk and they said they would have it adjusted by the repair man. They never did. Then we found out from many of our friends that were staying there, that they had no hot water either, and when they complained, they were told at the front desk, "it is what it is." It was not an isolated problem. Our room was located on the third level and the elevator was out of service. However, there was no sign on it saying it did not work. We had to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. Then to top off the weekend, our group had reserved the recreation/breakfast area for our reunion dinner which was catered, and they couldn't find the key to unlock it! There were about 50 of us, all standing out in the cold. Finally, after an extended period, we got in. Then at 9:00 pm, security came in and told us we all had to leave immediately, and he started clearing off our tables of food and drinks. We explained that they made us wait out in the cold because they couldn't locate a key, and we thought they might extend the courtesy of letting us stay a little longer. The security guy said very rudely "get out now!"

    « Unique Architecture »

Third time I've stayed here. Originally selected because of the unique architecture (I'm an architect), but have returned because it is affordable, convenient access from freeway and to Encinitas restaurants, plus decent breakfast bar included. I've always visited in November so never tried the pool. If you can get a west end room on the upper floors, there is a horizon view of the Pacific.

« Great place and great value »

Very clean, very quiet, up to date. Quiet and comfortable. Excellent hill top location. Beautiful pool and breakfast poolside was very well done. Big screen TV's free paper it was relaxing and very enjoyable.

    5
« Stay here every time in the area »

Get the ocean view, it's worth it. Breakfast is pretty good. Beds comfy and love the covered parking. Internet can be tricky with Mac, but use the tech support phone number, and they are helpful. Hot tub not as hot as I would like, but it is warm and clean.

« Local stay for couple with dog »

Nice hotel. We stayed at the Best Western because our house was being tented for termites. We liked that they took dogs and it was very close to our residence. The stay was just perfect and the price was reasonable. The front desk staff was very helpful and got us into the room early since my wife had a bad cold.

    5
    « Great location »

A great location in Encinitas. The hotel is well maintained and the breakfast is well done. Plenty of parking. Close to the beaches and parks. It is a pet friendly hotel with a potty area close to the rooms. The room was spacious with a large balcony. The only distraction is the road noise can be heard with the door open to the balcony.

    « My Trip »

Very, Very Bad front desk service!!!!!!!! Called ahead to make sure rooms were ready. When we arrived one room was ready and the other wasn't. Stood there for 20 min. while she tried to get it together. When our other room was ready it was an hour later and not next to the other one as it was supposed to be. Check out was just as bad

« Very Good For Older Motel »

Excellent beds, clean room and grounds, quiet room despite railroad and freeway nearby, rooms need to be updated (bathroom recently partly remodeled but insufficient lighting and government water pressure regulator), breakfast okay, room WiFi too slow.

    4
    « Check in »

Only one problem with my stay... I showed up at 3:45pm and my room was not prepared yet. I had to wait in my car for 45 minutes before my room was ready. Otherwise, the stay was nice, the breakfast was good, and my rest was fine.

    « Perfect Location »

I have stayed at this hotel many times and each time I love it even more. The staff is excellent! The beds are so comfortable that I never want to leave them. The location to the freeway, and beach are fantastic. The value for what you get cant be beat!

    « Excellent Stay »

We stayed 2 nights and thought the hotel was great. The rooms are very large (had room with 2 queen beds). Encinitas is a cute town, night life, good restaurants, and walking distance to ocean. The hotel is well maintained; breakfast area quite large (cabana next to pool).

    « First class service »

Hotel a little old fashioned but extremely clean and tidy. breakfast was good with plenty of options. Staff were amazing in particular one lady (Marcia i think her name was) who i was amazed told me she was new. She had every detail perfected and couldn't do enough for me every time i spoke to her or requested assistance the only down side to this hotel is there is no bar or restaurant. I will be back to stay here next year without fail. Thanks to superb customer service...!

    « Best western »

Poor service. Reservation accuracy dis organized. Ran out of towels and we had to wait for clean ones. Too pricey for hotel. Breakfast ok. Good location-can walk into town. They provided no special services-we needed garments ironed. Went to cleaners across the street and they charged too much without cleaning. Water pressure poor. Small pool-not enough chairs around pool. No vending machine near pool or towels provided.

« Love staying here when in the area »

My family and I love the price, the location right by the beach and close proximity to LegoLand. The rooms are nice and comfortable. There is plenty of parking. There are really good restaurants in the area and we love Moon Light Beach which is in walking distance.

    5
« The best Best Western yet! »

Plentiful parking, right next to train station (yet we heard NO noise!), a stones throw to beach and Main Street (HWY 101) where lots of restaurants and shops to walk around in and check out... Rooms are super spacious with stocked kitchen (dishes etc), 2 tvs, and very spacious balcony (no ocean view for us but it was still pretty nice). Very cozy beds too! A real gem! Highly recommend!! But if you're physically disabled in any way, this place is on top of a hill so coming in and out could pose a challenge.

    4
    « Vacation Base »

The hotel was well kept and comfortable. Our room was spacious, with well appointed amenities. Close to transit and the beach. The Coaster is right down the street, to get you to San Diego and major attractions, without having to pay high prices for a hotel in the city. Plenty of free parking. Wi-fi was spotty, and breakfast was nothing to speak of, so we found great diners in the area. Great spot to make a base camp for vacation.

    5
    « Excellent! »

My husband and I had a great time at BEST WESTERN Encinitas Inn & Suites at Moonlight Beach. The personnel was super nice at front desk, the room was very clean and the hotel very quiet. They have a nice breakfast next to the pool. Good view from the room with a big balcony area. I loved the fruit flavored water they have in the lobby!!! :)

    3
    « Staff was weird »

The rooms are sad and dated. No blow dryer in the room for this price was surprising. Cleaning staff didn't seem to care that they were in our way trying to get to breakfast. The rooms don't smell very fresh. Room deoderizers would only mask it.

    « Great Location »

I've stayed at this hotel the past two trips to Encinitas. Very convenient location, the hotel is very well kept and clean. The only "negative" I could say is the bathroom sink area is very small, especially for woman. Not enough space for countertop use.

    5
    « Surf trip »

Whenever we can get the right price we stay at BW. No other hotel in the area compares. Walking distance to Moonlight beach, Whole Foods, Encinitas Surfboards, Hansons Surfboards, Swamis, Cardiff reef, San Elijo, lots of stores and places to eat.

    4
    « good location »

location great to see area and near ocean. view from balcony was nice, could see ocean in distance. food and shops nearby, and I-5 blocks away to ease travel. food here was good and presented well, nice area to eat and relax with breakfast. one of the better best westerns I have stayed at.

    2
« Thoroughly mediocre, with ants galore. »

It really wasn't good. There were loads of ants, the beds are too soft, the TV and wifi are slow, the breakfast is totally forgettable, and it is difficult to enter the joint from I-5. It is lousy value for the price and I can't recommend it.

    5
    « A+ location and $ »

Great location, walking distance to town and beach, comfy clean rooms, attentive staff, complimentary poolside breakfast. We arrived in town having reservations elsewhere. That property was so horrible we checked the BW and they accommodated us immediately. We are on 3rd floor and have ocean view from our balcony. The property is friendly, clean and convenient. Bonus, it won't break your budget.

    « Location, location, location........... »

We stayed here for four days and three nights and you would be hard pressed to find a better location near the beach and shopping streets. Easy walking distance to Moonlite Beach, restaurants and boutique shopping. Hotel is very nice and has all amenities you would expect. Most rooms have ocean views and spacious balconies. Service was great in all regards and personnel are exceptionally polite. Self serve buffet breakfast by the pool was very good and you could eat inside or by the pool. Looking forward to returning.

    4
    « beautiful location »

I love coming to this place. It is a great for relaxation. There is alittle walk down to the beach, which is beautiful. The restaurant on site though is not done, and was disappointing to see this...as it has been in remodel mode for a long time. Only complaint is there weren't any chaise lounges on the patio to relax on. Breakfast is great!!!

    4
    « comfortable »

We came for a wedding, so probably paid a little less. Pleasant room with comfortable bed. Only problem was setting up the Wi-Fi, which required much time and several calls, and had to be repeated each day.

    5
    « not a motel, a hotel »

Great spacious room, very comfortable beds. Felt like a considerably nice hotel room at motel prices. I would definitely stay here again on future trips to Encinitas. The location is great too. It's walking distance to downtown and Moonlight beach.

    5
« The Best Value in North County »

LOVE to stay at this hotel !! Took my wife with me on this business trip. Great location, and short walking distance to the beach and village of Encinitas with boutique shops and a variety of quaint and quality dining establishments. The 1 bedroom suite provides plenty of space with adjusting to 3 hour time difference and has an extremely large balcony - most with ocean views. The free breakfast has plenty to offer and is very convenient for a fast start for the day.

  • 4
    « Roomy Hotel »

We loved the size of the hotel room. The staff were friendly overall. Location is great also; easy access to the beach, downtown Encinitas, and 5 Fwy. The only improvement I would like to see is maybe the sofa bed can be updated, the corner was worn.

    4
    « Nice but..... »

Nice hotel, looks like it could use a little updating. The view was gorgeous from our room. Only problem was we were there for a wedding and were in one of the "Family Suites" and told there were cots, blankets and pillows available. When we arrived after the wedding we could not get any cots or bedding as they were out. Unfortunately 2 children slept on the floor, on the pillows from the Sofa Sleeper in the room. The continental breakfast was ok, but they seemed to have a major issue with their drink/coffee machines.
