"Disgusting - STAY AWAY"

User 01/04/2022

Whatever you do - STAY AWAY! I arrived Thursday to check-in and from the moment I entered the drive way I had a bad feeling. The photos that are online are a complete lie. This place is run down and disgusting. But I had a reservation and I was coming off a long drive so I wanted to give this place the benefit of a doubt. Maybe the room would be nice - WRONG! When my husband and I went inside to ask if we could check-in early (we arrived in town at 1:45pm). The woman at the desk (the only redeeming this about this place) said she would check. As she was getting ready to see if our room was ready the man working at the computer next to her jumped up and said "I need to check something first. Besides they're early." He got on her computer and proceeded to click around for 10 minutes while the rest of us stood there awkwardly. When he was finally done the woman proceeded to check us in. Once I gave her my credit card she informed me that there would be an $85 hold placed on the card for incidentals. I'm sorry what?? I've been on the road for 10 days throughout the Southwest and no one has done that. She asks if she can place the hold to which I responded "I guess so" since I felt like there was nothing else I could do. Once she had my money locked in she gave me the normal paperwork to sign. She made sure to remind me that there would be a fee charged if my husband or I smoked anything of any kind in the room. Now I was annoyed. I don't smoke (if you do that's fine!) but she pretty much made me feel like she thought I planned to start a cigar lounge in her hotel. Then she proceeded to tell her where should park my car. This was not a recommendation this was her telling me which parking space was my assigned space. Weird. Not bad necessarily but weird. We head up to our room - a King Suite apparently - on the second floor. The room is directly over the lobby and on our way there I pass thru a cloud of marijuana smoke from somewhere. Nice. Again I don't care if you smoke but I have a feeling that these people make a habit of collecting on that no smoking deposit here. Our room is at the end of the hall. Outside our door is a broom and dustpan FULL OF CIGARETTE BUTTS. I can't make this up! To get into the room you open the door and step down. WTF. The room is plain and weirdly laid out. Shabby and not like the photos online. I went thru the room checking it out like I do at every place I stay. I stepped into the bathroom and lost it. There were "particles" floating in the toilet and there was a ring around the bowl. So someone took a sh*t in there and left something behind and housekeeping didn't think to clean???? The shower had this hard white crystallized crap in the bottom of the tub. Not idea what it was. Hubby thought it might be ice but after testing it with his pocket knife determined it wasn't. DISGUSTING. Under the sink was a lump of red...something. And the sinks had white junk in them as well. So we headed downstairs and told the woman at the desk we wouldn't be staying and described the HORROR of the room upstairs. She was genuinely surprised and said she hadn't checked after housekeeping had been thru. I'm sorry - that was AFTER someone cleaned?? She offered us another room which I declined and we left. She was nice but not nice enough to make up for that. Two hours later I get an email saying that the $85 hold will be released in the next day or so BUT I will be charged for the room since it was a late cancellation. F*ck that. I am waiting to hear back from the manager but there is no way I am paying for that room. Do yourself and your family a favor and stay far away from this place. Just down the road is the Best Western Plus Rio Grande Inn. Same (or lower) price and clean room.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
We made a shortcut and mistake at our front desk and tried to check in this guest 90 minutes early. Her room was not ready, and she refused a replacement room. We regret the error attempting an early check-in, but the review is otherwise meritless. Unfortunately, this reviewer returned to the property the next day to inquire about their refund in person. Their refund was already pending, and they had been informed of this. They opted to make a scene in our lobby in front of another incoming guest and were asked to leave.

"Unsanitary, creepy, and “Bugs” Do not stay here."

User 28/03/2022

The hotel room was filthy. No soap. Dirty shower, and carpet. After 30 min we ran out of the room because my son found hair, crumbs and “BUGS” on the bed. After talking to management who was extremely defensive and actually said that they have people who scam them “by staying for two hours doing what they came to do and leave”….. Apparently is the hotel not just disgusting but is home to illicit activity's. The worse part knowing we left because of all the issues we tried to get a refund from the 3rd party site we booked the room from and THEY LIED and said we stayed there the whole night….. AVOID!!!!!!!!

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
What is unusual is that this guest wasn't willing to walk through the room with front desk concierge to review the alleged defects. Both the concierge and manager on duty investigated the guest claims and found nothing wrong except that the beds were unmade, and the toilet had been used making the room unfit for sale. This case was understandably treated as an unclaimed room for billing purposes. There is no merit to the rest of the story here either.

"Rude Staff Endangered My Children"

User 18/03/2022

Checkout was clearly posted and included on my bill as 11:00 a.m. I had a brief presentation to give nearby and left my 15-year-old and five-year-old in the room. Cleaning staff kicked my children out of their room at 10:35 a.m. because our room was next on her list. When my 15-year-old explained that we planned to leave at 11:00 per the posted checkout time, staff said that it didn't matter and she had to clean the room then. We had arrived in a camper where we stored our clothing and other personal items in closets and drawers; therefore, we didn't have luggage. My children had to move all of our items out of the room and sit outside, holding down our items to not blow away in the wind and wait for me to leave my presentation and get them early. I called the front desk for 20 minutes straight and never got voicemail or a live voice. The staff was totally okay removing my children from the safety of their room and leaving them outside. Do NOT stay here.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
We positively discourage leaving minors unattended at our hotel! We investigated your claims, and we apologize for an early knock on the door at 10:35am. However, there was no attempt by staff to force anyone to leave the room. On the contrary our head housekeeper found your children waiting outside on the sidewalk and tried to persuade them to return to the room, wait in the lobby or wait under the dome for their ride.

krazyleochick25, Island of Hawaii, Hawaii 21/02/2022

Everything was amazing, STAFF WAS Excellent clean rooms it was GREAT!! Beat place to stay and have fun with family.. loves the pool and hot tub my son love the big dome .. People were soo nice it felt great

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Thank you for the review here. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. I hope by next time you are here we have the deck shower and bathroom available under the dome. After that we're going to turn the waterfall back on!

"Not good."

User 18/01/2022

I realize it is difficult to find low-cost options in this area, and the room was decently clean (I did not see any bugs) and the bathroom was decent for 2.5 stars. However, this is a motel not a hotel and even though it was relatively empty, we received a room near the road and it was quite loud to the point of not being able to sleep. It slightly smelled of smoke even though it was a non-smoking room. The pool was kind of gross and certainly not worth paying anything extra for a motel with a pool vs no pool given there is a gorgeous indoor aquatic center at the community center less than 5 minutes away. Mostly - do not be fooled by the pictures as it is not nearly that nice!

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
How did you find the pool to be gross? very confusing review!

User 23/12/2021

This is a nasty motel! If you have a family you care for pay a couple more bucks and stay at a nice hotel! Again this is NOT a hotel this is an overpriced dirty MOTEL. The sheets stunk like cigarettes and feet and I did stay in a non-smoking room. The floor disgusting. The heater stuck at 85 and thermostat broken. The The pool is outdoors so not convenient for cold weather. Trashy people getting drunk in the pool. Again NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY. The fronts desk guy Michael was nice but not good enough since this motel is in terrible conditions. I felt like I was in a Lampoons vacation movie with everything going wrong breaking and basically felt like I was gonna be murdered in the middle of the night. I left early I couldn't put my precious kids through this. I lost all my money. So many other locations to stay at in this nice city. I did do my research for some reason this location has good reviews. DON'T DO IT. Don't be fooled by the nice man on the phone called Michael. He might be nice but completely oblivious to this terribly neglected motel. NOT a hotel. This is Not a family friendly place.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Christina Brown, yours is a very disappointing, abusive review. I think you are the first person to find an issue with our hot tub & pool. We don't welcome 'trashy' people here and have an impeccable security record. Young families are our strongest customers, and we discourage any form of bad behavior on the property. It is clear to see from our photos online that this hotel has exterior corridors and a fully enclosed swimming pool and hot tub under a vintage dome. We also have a patio heater under the dome especially for parents that are supervising their kids swimming. Because the dome contains the joyful noises emanating from the pool area, we keep it open late (11pm) so our guests can actually use and enjoy the facility. We never got a report about your room temperature being excessive or about dirty linens so of course it's too late to help remedy any of that. How is it even possible to have sheets smell of stinky feet and cigarettes at the same time? ANSWER: it's not possible... I completely disagree that our hotel is neglected or disgusting and that doesn't make me oblivious. In any case, in retrospect, it would have been better had you chosen a different hotel and after the 1-night cancellation penalty, that was an option simple to arrange. You didn't leave early, so many regrettable lies in your post here - the bottom line is our place is not for you, and you are not for our place - no need to sensationalize.

"Love this Hotel"

User 21/12/2021

This is the best Hotel that I have ever been to in my lifetime I would return just for the comfort and I would definitely return if I was in the area it is the best I definitely recommend this place the food is amazing the pool is amazing the beds and the shower was amazing most Hotels do not have good shampoo and conditioner but this one did and the breakfast was so good and the staff were very friendly and the pool and hot tub was divine so great definitely recommend

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Titus, thank you for the kind review. The entire staff appreciates your recognition of their daily efforts here. We do look forward to your return visit!

"Zero pride in ownership"

tylerg1232021, Fruita, Colorado 19/12/2021

No hot water. Room smelled like someone had died in it and the staff changed the blankets and said "good nouf" door lock was broken. Paint chipping off doors. Wallpaper peeling. Assigned parking was a pain. Staff did not appear interested in actually trying to fix any issues.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Tyler, I'm sorry that our breakfast hour was inconvenient for your needs, but your review here goes beyond the pale. You opined about breakfast closing at 9:30am in a separate review and I am disappointed to see this poor rant here even after our staff accommodated your party with food from the closed buffet. We have ample supply of hot water for all guests. If there was such a terrible smell in the room, we could have easily resolved that had you simply informed us of the problem while you were here. Also, sorry that we parked you so close to your room. We do appreciate you informing us about the secondary lock and that was replaced the day you left the property. The smell must have abated after you left - bon voyage!

"Was very disappointed"

User 14/12/2021

The heat took all night to finally heat up the room. The pool is in a different building and you have to walk outside to get to it. The room doors open to the outdoors so you have to go outside to get anywhere else in the hotel.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Heather, as we answered before it is plain silly to not report a heating problem - we have remedies, there's simply no need to sit out the night in a chilly room and opine about it after the fact. Yes, this hotel features exterior corridors that are plain to see in all of our photos. We're sorry that you had a disappointing stay, but you didn't give us a chance to respond and service your needs and for that we deem your review to be unfair. Merry Christmas!

"Clean and cozy"

User 07/12/2021

It was clean and great price for a suite! Breakfast had so many options and it was delicious! Wish we would have brought a sound machine since it's close to the street but the girls loved swimming in the pool in December! We will definitely stay again!

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Whitney, thank you for taking the time to review your stay - we're delighted your girls could enjoy swimming in December. Looking forward to your next visit here!

"The best attitude that I have ever seen in hospitality industry."

User 03/12/2021

I called to book a stay at this hotel and Michael the GM picked up the phone late evening. Even though he had three guests waiting at the front desk waiting to check in or book a room, very nicely gave me options of calling him back or stay on hold to finish with other guests. I decided to stay on hold. He got back to me relatively quick and was so great in anything he said and did to get us what we want with our booking. I got to tell you, in my 7 min interaction with him, I learnt so much more about customer service. I cannot wait to meet him in person in a week or so and enjoy our stay at this hotel with such friendly staff. Keep on rocking Michael.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
TMamira, we are all looking forward to serving you again! I cannot tell you how pleased the team is to see this review - all of us are dedicated to making our guests feel special. We want to always live up to your review here, thank you from all of us here at the Mountain Shadows.

"Steadily Renovating, Improving"

CasualTraveler108, Denver, Colorado 05/11/2021

I tried to stay here a few years ago but the air quality and age of the place was too bad. This time I took a chance and it was ok. New owners are steadily upgrading the rooms. At this writing not all rooms are fully updated, and I think mine was a room that was partly updated. Room was ok. The outside air temp was about 32F, freezing, but my room was upstairs so I did not even need the heat, so I can't speak to the heat system. All was clean. Bed was not new but was reasonably comfortable. Refrigerator, medium TV, coffee maker, microwave. Hot water. Excellent shampoo. Breakfast pretty good... scrambled eggs, beans, salsa, waffles. Staff were friendly and helpful. I'd likely give it 4 Stars if I had the fully renovated room. Durango is small so the location is fine (though a long walk to downtown)... Some street noise after 9am. Wifi.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Dear CasualTraveler, thank you for sharing a review of your stay with us. You did indeed have a heated room or you would have cold. We'll get you a fully renovated room for your next visit!

"Feels safe and comfortable"

smcdaniel, Ariton, Alabama 30/10/2021

We stayed here 3 nights and it was quiet and comfortable. I love that the king bed was turned to face the window, not like they are normally turned. Classy. The breakfast was good with a variety of choices. They also have a heated pool. We would recommend this motel on the east end of town. It's not within walking distance of downtown but quiet location.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Dear McDaniel, thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are happy you enjoyed your stay with us and look forward to your next visit.

"Fall color"

kathyspring1399, Mission Viejo, California 23/10/2021

We chose this hotel for its convenient location to road touring. Leaf color change was spectacular to see. Hotel has all modern amenities and we particularly enjoyed the large hot tub under the vintage dome. It was nice having a full hot breakfast to start the day.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Dear Kathy, We're glad you enjoyed your stay with us - thank you for taking the time to post a review. Since you left we have begun hanging seasonal flowers under the dome and its making the swimming area into a pretty hangout after a day on the mountain.

"find a newer hotel."

travelfan9148, Bullard, Texas 04/10/2021

regarding an evaluation of Best Western Mountain Shadows, Durango, COLORADO-this property is sorely outdated, more like a 50 year old motel with outside entry, furnished with a "window unit" in the space by the bathroom to provide a/c, and no elevator available. when the window unit was used it was extremely irritating (and loud to boot). an attempt has been made to "modernize" this facility but much more is needed if BW intends to compete at this location with newer hotels. the check-in process took an inordinate amount of time to verify guest information (most of which is never requested by competitors, e.g., Marriott) complete with having to initial the form in five places for verification. parking space was assigned, an experience i have never before encountered in my travels. in addtition, the person at the check-in desk was surly and unfriendly, hardly what one would expect for a business dependent on satisfying customers.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
We verify identity of all our guests for your safety. We also assure a place for all our paying guests to park on the property by using a reserved parking system. Not sure why you needed an elevator since we reserved a parking space right outside your door on the 1st level.

"Filth and Rudeness"

User 02/10/2021

The reservation was incorrectly logged, with dates incorrect. Not my fault, but I was told it was ok, it could happen to anyone (as if it was my mistake). Well, the sheets and towels appeared clean. The room had seen the attentions of staff since the last visitor. Room had been heavily sprayed with some scent. The television would not work. I called and a tech came and after a while found that a receiver for the remote had fallen behind the cabinet, presumably during "cleaning". I was surprised to find a dried sticky spill in the groove atop the fridge that serves as the doorhandle. Inside something had spilled in the door compartments also and not been cleaned. The toilet just swirled around and wouldn't flush. A plunger stood beside it, it's head in a plastic grocery bag. Using it had no effect. The front of the toilet had pee streaks running down the front. On the sink counter a clear liquid had spilled across it and dried there. The carpet was filthy, though it had been vacuumed. Upon calling the front desk, they offered to change my room, but what cleanliness could I hope for in another room cleaned by the same cleaning staff? He also said he couldn't do anything else as he was very busy at the check in desk. I got no call back once he was less busy. When I checked out, the morning desk person offered no benefit or apology on behalf of her employers or the corporation, She offered advice to me instead, about how to conduct myself next time I found myself in this situation.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Dear Mark, we're sorry you had a disappointing stay with us. Please share the room number so we may investigate further.

"The best part about this place was leaving it"

User 27/09/2021

At nearly $200 a night I expected more. Cleanliness: The room was filthy. there were hairs - looked like pubic - in the sheets that were rumpled as though someone had slept in them. Not rumpled from being wadded up in a basket. Instead of asking for clean sheets - which we weren't sure would be clean - we went to the local store and bought a set to sleep on. Dead bugs and spider webs in the bathroom window that had been there for a long time. AC unit is so high on the wall that you cannot see what setting you're using and was caked in dust and dirt. you could see daylight through the gaps around it in the wall. spill marks in the refrigerator from previous users. didn't even touch the microwave a bottle of vermouth left from another customer that didn't get cleaned out towels that were not hotel-issued on the shelf Carpet filthy. you could tell there weren't rats or cockroaches because evidence would have been left in the corners where they were never cleaned Concrete and steps are absolutely disgusting. the use of a pressure washer maybe even once a year would go a long way. we stayed two nights. our key cards got deactivated on our first day. when i went to see why, the concierge initially told me we probably had exposed them to some kind of magnet that ruined them but then went on to say that it was their fault and they didn't put the right days on our cards. meal tickets issued for their continental breakfast. they had the wrong dates on them and were expired before we could use them - had we wanted to. pool was full of dead bugs - do the skimmers work? parking: assigned spaces barely big enough for a small crossover or sedan. our assigned space was basically in the driveway and every morning we were parked in by "overflow" parking - luckily we walked everywhere so didn't need to move the car. we witnessed one car scuff the bumper of another because they couldn't get out of their assigned spot. Front desk: these men were nice once you approached them. they didn't not acknowledge freely and it seems strange that everything was done by hand. in an age of computers, it would save time and effort to invest in a system that would log your information when you make the reservation. The best part of this place was checking out. I've never been so disgusted. I knew it was an old hotel but this goes beyond just being old.

"Funky BW Motel"

Dave C, Provo, United States 14/09/2021

Many travelers like funky hotels, each property having its quirks that make it unique. If that describes you, this is the hotel for you. But what makes this hotel a keeper is the staff. Upon arriving we noticed that the toilet was clogged, and they sent someone up in 5 minutes to fix it. The toilet required a minor adjustment and then worked great. The technician told us about the shuttle through town which seemed like a fine way to get around. After venturing to town and waiting to be seated at 8:00 for dinner (on a Wednesday night) we discovered that we missed the last shuttle. Too stuffed and out of shape to walk, we called the hotel to ask for a ride and someone was able to pick us up. Thanks Michael!. The assigned parking was another good perk so our parking space was always available.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Hi Dave, thanks for taking the time to review your stay. Our team was happy to serve your needs. I'm confused how TripAdvisor assigned a 3 out of 5 given your responses here.

"Horrible experience"

User 27/08/2021

Hotel and pool were nothing like the pictures - old and dirty instead of clean and bright. The room stunk and the AC put out a strong mold smell. The phone did not work. The curtains were filthy. The pool dome looked like a tomb instead of the bright enclosed space it looked like online. The staff were cold and unhelpful. We asked for a refund but they refused. We just left and got another hotel - worth it to avoid an allergic reaction to the fllth and mold. But in this situation a refund would have been appropriate.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
These folks tried to change their travel plans at hotel expense. They refused a replacement room when offered and instead abused our front desk representative - shameful.

"Room was underwhelming for price."

cathymc2021, Gilbert, Arizona 22/08/2021

Needs to be updated. Was scheduled for 6 nights but only stayed one. Carpet pulling away from wall. Loud window A/C that didn't cool to back bathroom. Back of front door dirty. Cleanliness of carpet not spectacular. Checked into Fairfield Inn for lower room rate and newer facility.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Thanks for taking the time to rate your stay. New owners are updating the property throughout for next time.

"This is a motel."

nyumoses, Tempe AZ 16/08/2021

This is a motel, not a hotel and there is little on their website indicating so. We cancelled our reservation as soon as we arrived. I contacted Best Western to express my dissatisfaction and request a refund but have yet to get a reply ten days later. Read the recent reviews which are unfavorable. Prior to this experience I considered Best Western a reliable company. I now am unlikely to book with them in the future.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
We are a hotel actually. Sorry you were disappointed for your experience.

"Not Like the Pictures"

mkdenco, Denver, Colorado 02/08/2021

The hotel itself is more run down than the photos let on. Our room was missing light covers, the couch had seen better days, the AC really only worked in one area, there were dead bugs all over the ceiling, and the walls and doors were dirty. The pool was clean enough, but could have been much better. The pool is also pretty small and was very crazy 2 of the 3 nights we were there (any more than 4 or 5 families don't really fit). The breakfast area is tiny, we ate in our room during the stay. The staff was very nice though! I wonder if there's too many people in and out for them to handle?

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Thank you for your feedback.

"Renovations Needed."

Rosie J, Buckeye, Arizona 21/07/2021

The room was clean but in desperate need of updating. It had a slightly musty smell. Every area of the room was worn. For the high price of the room, they need to use some of the money to update it. I was extremely disappointed with this BW branded room. I expected more from the brand than they delivered.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
Hi Rosie, thank you for taking the time to write a review. The hotel is under new ownership and amenity updating is already underway. We continue to use the branded We Care Clean program to provide clean rooms and and a comfortable stay.

"Scam artists"

User 07/07/2021

***Charged $800 for ONE NIGHT*** also weird bugs in room Booked through Expedia: $254 on July 5th. Get to the hotel, they ask to put a card on file for incidental charges.. give them my husband's card and they charged him $308, when the incident fee was supposed to only be $125 and I ALREADY PAID IT THROUGH EXPEDIA. So that's $560. We get home, we see another charge for $75.. okay. Today on July 7th, I get ANOTHER $200 charge for apparently smoking by my car.. I was in 203, with my two minor children. I have never smoked a cigarette in a room with my children. The maid even saw my smoking by my car, because she asked me for a lighter. How then, could I smoke in my room, if I had two children under age 12... While smoking at my car. So total charge for ONE NIGHT, on vacation.. this hotel has charged me $800. I would stay wayyyyy away from this property if you care about having a good vacation, and not having almost one thousand dollars tied up in made up charges. I'm also reporting you to Expedia for stealing my money. That's not your money, that's my money. We had to leave our vacation a day early, because they decided to take every penny of our extra cash. I will literally never stay at a Best Western again as long as I live. Y'all are crooked.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
We reviewed our records and the claim of $800 night is false. Incidental authorization is required at check in and released after check out to cover potential damages during the stay. Unfortunately we had to remediate damages due to smoking in the room and charged accordingly. Don't smoke in the room and keep the $125!

"Mostly bad. Some good."

cjnielsen2011, Eureka, Utah 05/07/2021

Room was muggy hot constantly even with the ac going constantly. Breakfast was good when they had everything stocked. Second morning they were out of some things. parking was horribly tight! Pool was great though! Loved that it had nine feet deep pool in one end. Although one area of walking near the hot tub is extremely tough on the bare feet.

Michael Hanson, General Manager at Best Western Mountain Shadows, responded to this review
We found your room on file, looked in on the A/C unit and repaired it. I regret that we didn't catch it prior to your stay.

"Moldy mole hill not shadow mountain"

luckeyu7, Denver, Colorado 29/05/2021

After reading the page for the hotel and seeing the pictures; we excited for our stay at Shadow mountain (even the name was cool). From the moment we arrived the stay was disappointing. The lobby was full of people, even though there was three to four employees behind counter there was only one person checking people in. Customer service was slow to begin with and only slowed when telling people that the only way to get into our rooms was for someone from the office to let us in rooms. Finally reaching the desk, we got our room. The clerk then explained that parking was assigned, so I then explained that we are a larger group and I drove a large vehicle. The assigned parking spot was the size of a postage stamp and previously been given to someone else. Once we were let into the room the disappointment only continued. The once green carpet that was stained brown. The header around the curtains was losing its battle with gravity. After a long while drive a shower was much needed, that was until the wall started melting. Unfortunately being a holiday weekend we had to stay overnight. The AC sounded like a jet engine the entire night only to be able to barely crack the heat from what was explained to me broken radiator system that was heating the room with no way to turn off. Went down to look at breakfast and immediately walked out. Needless to say we won't be staying or recommending this location for people to stay

"Loved our room at the Best Western"

Harvey E, Albuquerque, New Mexico 19/04/2021

This motel was one of the best motels we stayed at in the last year, and we stayed at several. The rooms were spacious, clean, and quiet. The bathrooms had two sinks, a real plus. The breakfast was served hot, right off of the griddle by a very friendly lady. Good coffee as well.

"Best Western Durango"

Rod M, montrose, United States 13/04/2021

We opted to drive another hour to save ten bucks from another BW location. This motel is getting dated, but service was very good. The room was old, clean enough for me. We were only passing through. It was easy to locate and a great quiet stay for the price.

User 09/04/2021

Overall ok experience. the lobby had a smell like sewer and it took a little while to check in but not too long. Staff was very friendly. The room wasn't bad but had some cosmetic issues and some of the light switches didn't work. Could have been upgraded a bit.

"Clean and comfortable "

Salmonflies, Ucon, Idaho 22/03/2021

The room was clean and very comfortable, the shower was hot and the staff was super friendly. I would definitely stay here again the only thing I would say is the tv needs to be updated in the king room otherwise this was a great stay.

"Vacation trip "

67allenk, Hartland, Wisconsin 23/12/2020

What a mistake. Dirty, worn out rooms. No security or security cameras. Very tight, small insufficient parking area. Our vehicle was struck literally right in front of the office windows. Owner was all but rude and useless when asked for information. Avoid at all costs of possible.

"More than expected for a one night stopover"

Jenna G, Osage Beach, Missouri 10/12/2020

We stopped in for an overnight and had one additional guest come along for our trip that wasn't anticipated at the time of booking. We were able to change rooms with the front desk upon arrival & were met with an unexpected but highly desirable room upgrade. The room was spacious and worked well for what we needed and as An added bonus-we could park right outside the room door! Amenities of the room aside, the front desk counter staff on the following morning was a bit dazed & the coffee/ breakfast to-go situation could be more organized/better stocked (they had no fresh fruit option available). There was no decaf option for coffee nor hot water/cold water accessibility. Otherwise, nice place for our family to stop at (and a pool visit in the parking lot dome building would be great if you have time to stick around) all in all, best western ain't too shabby in Durango these days! Good price, just a bit out of town if you don't mind not being in the middle of things.

"Very dirty and worn - stay away"

901tomk, Surprise, Arizona 16/10/2020

Carpet in room was filthy and had obviously not been vacuumed before our stay. There were crumbs beside the bed. There was a dead bug on the wall over a chair in one corner. The desk chair was broken and could not be raised or lowered. This was the absolutely the worst Best Western we have ever stayed in.

User 28/09/2020

I had a room reserved and paid for, and they wouldn't let me get my room. I arrived at 3pm and had a work meeting I needed to be on my computer for at 3:30, and I couldn't get my room due to a misspelling of my name on the reservation. The lady at the front desk was extremely rude and insensitive about the whole situation. I had to cancel my reservation and go to a motel down the road for the night

"Run down"

Bridesmom_8, Hastings, Nebraska 20/09/2020

When black carpet is obviously dirty and stained you've got a problem. On check out I was told it was on the list to be cleaned. Should have been done months ago. Everything was very old and it showed. We wouldn't go back.

"Not the best experience"

Becky L, Springfield, Missouri 08/09/2020

First off, I got this for my husband after he hiked 500 miles of the Colorado Trail. It was a place to relax as he waited for his flight home. The listing states that there is shuttle service. Well, there is NOT. Not only is there not shuttle service as listed, they are very unfriendly. We would not recommend due to abruptness of staff and the misrepresentation stating there is shuttle service.

"Not bad for the price"

Michelle S, Shawnee, Kansas 23/08/2020

Beware that the smoking area (i.e. only ashtry on grounds) in near the stairwell outside of the 120's numbered rooms and people congregate, dragging chairs there to sit, smoke and keep you up. The room was acceptable, nice size fridge. The pool area was quite hot (being in a bubble) and they don't open both doors to allow any ventilation (windows on one side don't allow for cross ventilation). There are laundry facilities, grab and go breakfast, only ice machine is by the office. It is a couple miles north of downtown but the price reflects that.

"Huge disappointment"

jasanders1, Sedona, Arizona 20/08/2020

Avoid this place. The room was dirty (black mold in the shower" and the carpet was worn and dirty". Floors were creaky, late night noise made it hard to sleep. Location was fine, but not really close to the downtown area.

"our 1st trip in awhile"

Trail252358, Amarillo, Texas 17/08/2020

our trip was the 1st time in several yrs, room was wonderful, everyone was very helpful and friendly, covid restrictions put a damper on breakfast and using the pool but we all need to do our part to comply with the restrictions. I would highly recommend BW Mountain Shadows and will stay there again in the future

"Better stay at Motel 6"

User 17/08/2020

I will never stay at a Best Western again the room was filthy the carpeting needs to be change it had holes in it. the bath room shower had mold. you could see the holes in the walls that had been patch (at least paint the room) the place was dingy. the pool was dirty and the chlorine smell was terrible. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. Best western should be ashamed to rent this room out. There were more issuse. but there is not enough space here to explain. Thanks for ruining my trip.

"Roomy Nise Room."

sewalden23, Fort Worth, Texas 15/08/2020

Nice little hotel at he north end of town. The room was roomy with nice amenities. Pool area very nice, staff very friendly and helpful. Even with Covid rules in affect they offered a bag and or boxed breakfast to go complete with available drinks. Good value for our stay in Durango.

"Not Bad"

Waakaua, Salt Lake City, Utah 15/08/2020

This is definitely a spot that if you are not looking for it you will miss this place. Which can be a good thing since I must admit the place is pretty quiet. I found it to be nicely located since a score of places to eat are nearly in walking distance. The Yellow Carrot is exceptional, and across the street. The rooms are clean and spacious. Mostly everything works. Could use a channel list in the room, but managed to live without it. My only mark on the place was that we immediately discovered something was wrong with our door lock. Took 7 to 8 tries to get the door to unlock. Twice I addressed this to the people at the Front Desk. Even after saying maintenance will look at it the door was like that until we left.

"Dirty rooms"

jennysTrain, Durango, Colorado 06/08/2020

Day 6 into our family trip across 4 states and this was the only hotel I've had problems with. We had 3 rooms and all three were dirty. From dirty cups beside and behind furniture, to left over pizza in one of the fridges. The worst was feces on a toilet seat and what looks like bloody mucus on the wall above a bed.

"Clean, Convenient. Comfortable"

lindasR6634HL, Scottsdale, Arizona 29/07/2020

We spent three nights here. Our room was very clean when we arrived and the staff did everything they could to keep us safe and comfortable. The hotel is older but built well so there was no sound between rooms. The take away breakfast was adequate. Good location--not in the heart of town but close enough. Several restaurants within walking distance.

"Quick hetaway"

603henry, Fort Worth, Texas 27/07/2020

The overall experience was great the area was great to leave out and go up into Silverton Room was a great rom for a older facility The staff was great we had a overall great stay The bed was great We did have a hiccup on the fridge but overall was a good stay

"Met our needs"

User 25/07/2020

Hotel is obviously an older building that has been renovated. We had a few issues with the electricity going out due to there being too many things plugged in so the breaker would pop. Staff was immediately helpful in getting electricity back on. Pool and hot tub were great. It met our needs for the 3 nights we were there. We would stay here again if given the chance.

"A Relaxing wind-down"

Trixie007, Gordonville, Texas 13/07/2020

First time to stay over in Durango. BW always keeps clean rooms. Called ahead to see if hot tub woeking and yes it was. Veey friendly staff especially Jessica at front desk. She already had read the notes from night before clerk. And was already familiar for her guests. She recommended 2 things a place to eat and nest things to see in the area. With all the negative in the country today , we wanted to pass on some good customer service thst still remains. We stayed 2 nights instead. The beds were clean and a/c worked. Eventhough it was probably a make over older hotel, it passed for what we needed. We didnt have the good full breakfast due to covid, we managed and they prepared muffin, fruit and juice ready to go bags. It was Pretty and 78 here.

"Okay stay"

User 12/07/2020

Room was fine. Pool was nice although it is currently limited to only 10 people at a time. Breakfast sucked as it was a granola bar, small muffin and fruit cup in a bag to get. Kind of pricey for this room.

"Dirty room, broken door, dust everywhere"

User 07/07/2020

Room was dirty, lots of dust. Shower with mold. Dirty carpet never vacuumed. For $200 per night-more than $420 for 2 nights- I expect better room than that dirty one! I had to clean entire room from dust: headboards, tables, lamps and tv! Room wasn't vacuumed for weeks! And one day we left room late and we saw who is “ cleaning” those rooms! Not professional maids but some guys- probably maintenance guys- because they had no idea how to work! I understand COVID and there were cuts! But at least Best Western should keep few maids! What a shame! Also Door was broken. Not able to open it because screws were missing! Oh- we expect that Best Western company will take care of it! Those filthy rooms do not look like on the advertised picture at all!!! Horrible stay! For that money it was a theft! Avoid!

"Great for Motorcycle Groups"

User 02/07/2020

Bike friendly and a decent rate for the Durango area. Difficult parking for towed trailers but Hotel worked to accommodate us the best they could. We were very happy with the staff who were all very helpful.

"Family Visit"

denmichael1, Aurora, Colorado 23/06/2020

Overall, a good motel considering its age but especially considering the pandemic situation during our visit. It would have been nicer had we been told in advance that the breakfasts would be grab bags, and tat the linens would be on an "ask" basis (not changed daily). The pandemic can be blamed for this.

"COVID Stay"

User 12/05/2020

Older property nicely renovated with comfy, spacious rooms. Two sinks in room great idea! Excellent location. Walking distance to restaurants & grocery. Friendly staff. Made restrictions due to COVID pandemic, so no breakfast bar.

"Great location"

tzign1, Wausau, Wisconsin 11/05/2020

Nicely located a block from grocery store and other shopping. The room was very roomy and nicely decorated and very clean. Plenty of space to spread out and stay in if you needed to. The pool and work out room along with breakfast was not available due to the Covid 19 social distancing. The place was very clean and spacious. Service was also great. The bed was one of the best, with a pillow top mattress and high quality sheets. I'm picky and slept well there. We'll be staying there again!

"Watch out for injuries"

User 02/03/2020

The mattress didn't fit the bed frame and somebody had duct taped the edge. Didn't work; I bumped it and cut my leg open. Also, there's no hot water regulator in the valve so when the guy upstairs flushed, scalding water came out of the shower head.

"Family and Friends"

User 28/02/2020

We stayed in Durango to go skiing at Purgatory. We rented several rooms with family and friends from Arizona and Colorado. The pool and jacuzzi were great group spaces. The desk staff was very accommodating when we called ahead to group our rooms together. The location was great for grocery store and close to shopping in downtown.

"Durango Snowboarding Trip"

boschjd13, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 17/02/2020

The room, breakfast, and staff were great. But I would have liked to change our room location. We were downstairs directly behind the stairs. We could hear every time someone moved upstairs or went up to the stairs. We unfortunately had neighbors who were nosy very early in the morning.

"Nice Motel and Individual Door to Your Room"

ManitouExpert, Manitou Springs, Colorado 08/02/2020

I like to be able to park right outside the room. This property has that. No lugging your luggage through the lobby and down long hallways. Beyond that the room seamed clean and comfortable. The breakfast was pretty average but the coffee was good.

"Durango Area Fun"

28shellir, Ada 10/01/2020

Mountain Shadows is a great location if you are traveling throughout the area. It is conveniently on the west side of Durango so that you can easily drive to Purgatory for a day of skiing. City Market is across the street if you want to grab a six pack for the room frig. Downtown Durango is only 5 minutes away and great restaurants are along Main Street; Rice Monkey has amazing Pho.

"Friendly staff"

User 02/01/2020

Staff was extremely friendly and helpful--gave recommendations for dinner locations for New year's Eve upon request. When heater in our room did not appear to be working upon return from dinner, quickly offered for us to change rooms and then brought us the new keys.

"Amazing hospitality!"

User 29/12/2019

Josh from the front desk (and their management team) were both so incredibly nice during our stay. The property is comfy and great location but we will come back here because the people were so amazing and completely made our trip! Thank you for your hospitality and making us feel so welcomed!

"Great place to stay for the price."

anurseam, Las Cruces, New Mexico 14/12/2019

This was right off the main road, quite, kids loved the pool, the room was very roomy and clean. Great place for great price. Breakfast was good and hot, dining area very clean, staff was very helpful and respectful. Enjoyed it all.

"Great value for the price, kind staff."

User 17/11/2019

My whole family enjoyed our stay. Staff kindly upgraded our room and thanked us for being best western reward members. The breakfast was great and the staff made sure my infant was taken care of by bringing out a high chair for her. Swimming pool was a highlight of the trip for the kids.

"Great quick stay!"

zeeracha, Albuquerque, New Mexico 12/11/2019

This BW was a great quick stay, rooms were clean just a bit muggy. Breakfast was just great everything from coffee to make your own burritos! Arrived in late from ABQ and fell asleep right away on the comfy beds.

"Nothing special"

LeoandMagda, Ham Belgium 07/11/2019

This is a Best Western like there are hundreds off them, nothing special, friendly staff, good bed. Breakfast good but no special. try to have a room away from the highway or you can't sleep. A lot off bikers here and in the morning when they leave with there bikes everybody is awake, bur the bikers are nice !!

"Shady clerk friends in lobby"

User 07/11/2019

I have stayed here a few times, always seems the desk clerk has a shady looking lesbian native American (not racist, just trying to be descriptive) friend in the lobby waiting for her...kind of distracting. Also, overly hot water control in room.

"Excellent Experience"

Vicki S, Texarkana, Texas 03/11/2019

They have a full breakfast including bacon and Hatch Green Chile sauce. The coffee was excellent. I drink decaf and even that was good. The rooms were clean and spacious. And the staff was very friendly. And it's a straight drive into town. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Great place for family fun"

Mamajoe0206, Kanab, Utah 24/10/2019

We took a girls trip. The staff in the morning were simply amazing! I am an early riser and they welcome you with a good morning and a smile! Always have fresh coffee and asked about the trip! They were simply the kindest people!! Thank you for a great stay and for your great customer service!!

"Pretty Good"

User 21/10/2019

For the price we paid, this was a pretty decent hotel! No complaints, the free breakfast was great, the pool and hot tub were nice (and open until 10:30pm, which is pretty convenient for us). The room we had was big, the bed was pretty comfortable, clean. The staff were incredibly friendly, and they left a little hand written welcome note in our room (nice touch). All in all, would stay here again if I find myself in the area

"Locked Out of a Just OK Room"

User 11/10/2019

A 3 night stay where we reported on day one that the door latch didn't work properly. Multiple tries to unlocked the door every single day. Even the staff had difficulty. The thermostat controls nothing - just wall decoration. Room appeared to have a half hearted update: wood threshold leading to bathroom is split, baseboard heat is in bad shape. On the plus side the breakfast was good and the dining area was very clean.

"Best Western Mountain Shadows in Durango"

gmarquez2019, Fort Collins, Colorado 07/10/2019

Excellent service, the covered all season pool and hot tub felt wonderful, all around a very relaxing place to stay! Breakfast was wonderful with all the regular items for several types of diets and green chili and salsa for those of us that like a little spice in our lives!

"Pleasantly surprised"

OB-nurse77, United States 06/10/2019

When we first arrived at the motel we were concerned due to the outside being older but it actually turned out nice. It was clean, beds were comfortable, bathroom had been remodeled. Breakfast was adequate, coffee was really good. I would stay there again.

"Room was kind of unsafe"

User 05/10/2019

The door would hardly latch. It was actually unlocked and open when we arrived. The refrigerator was plugged into a surge protector that was MELTED. Pictures of the property were very deceiving. The room did seem clean but the electrical and door issues really hurt the value in my opinion. A bit expensive for the condition.

"Great Value"

anne e, Pueblo, Colorado 04/10/2019

Our stay at Best Western Mountain Shadows was great! All the staff we interacted with were helpful, friendly, and efficient. The breakfast was a lot nicer than expected. Our room was clean and spacious. I didn't go into the pool area but it looked nice as well.

"It was older and on a busy road"

200deboraha, Lafayette, Colorado 03/10/2019

It was satisfactory for one night on the road, but the hotel is right on a busy street. The rooms are older with a swamp cooler. It was clean and the staff very nice. Multiple dinner options within walking distance. The breakfast was good with local chili verde but the make-yourself waffles were a disaster.

"Older but we'll maintained property"

User 28/09/2019

An older Best Western at the North end of Main Ave. Well maintained. Had some concerns with some negative reviews which seemed a bit harsh. Really nice pool area....Very good breakfast albeit in a small room. Bed fair but room was quiet and very clean. Helpful staff.

"Your loss"

grammakarol, Madras, United States 27/09/2019

If you check around, look up reviews, just quit. I booked this hotel. After having 3 semi bad experiences I was nervous. But... we loved our room. Clean. Well stocked. Nice layout. Quiet, etc. Oh , I love the new heat/air conditioner unit. Can't say enough about that. I ended up with a headache and extended our stay. I was so glad it was this hotel to stay in.. BUT...the staff ... all of them are terrific. The manager of this hotel has a wonderful staff. Okay, I'm done. But I think you get my drift?!! **your loss if you don't go here**

"Staff are great!"

User 23/09/2019

The location was good, staff very friendly! The air conditioning sucked! On/off loud fan... very annoying. Internet sucked!!! Kept spinning, kept dropping out... got blocked. Everything else was fine. Comfortable beds.

"Very pleased!"

User 18/09/2019

We were here 9 days, motel staff were second to none, Angie our housekeeper is a cut above, the included breakfast was beyond what we could have expected. Overall we highly recommend this motel as a great place to stay.

"Breakfast was great."

leeannadee, Ottawa, Kansas 15/09/2019

Breakfast was great and lobby was really nice but pictures of hotel online are deceiving regarding the rooms. Old hotel that was updated several years ago and carpet in our room was dirty. Wouldn't stay here again.

User 14/09/2019

My husband and I stayed at MANY Best Western Hotels on our stay in Colorado last week. We Love Best Western's and have stayed at many but this one has definitely seen better days. It is on a super busy corner and our "renovated room" was so dark and depressing that we purposely found ways to stay out of it until bedtime. The pool area in the picture is misleading as well. You have to walk across a busy PARKING LOT to access the pool and hot tub with high traffic volume just steps away on the street. We paid over $150,00 for this per night and felt like we just got taken advantage of. No One should pay over $75.00/night for this place. How it gets 3 stars is beyond me! And "1" more have to access your room from the outside. Had I known that......we would have skipped this place all together! Just didn't feel safe at all.

"Great place to stay!"

Rick-wendy M, Jefferson, Georgia, United States 14/09/2019

Everyone was so helpful from check in to check out. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was always willing to give us information about the surrounding area. They were very pleasant and answered all our questions. They made us feel welcome and showed great customer service!!

"Birthday Weekend"

kellyliz33, Scottsdale, Arizona 11/09/2019

I surprised my boyfriend with a mountain biking trip for his birthday. The front desk staff overheard this at check-in and they carried on the surprise by taking the time to bring him balloons and a card that was hand written and colored with markers. Sure, the room was a little bit outdated as other have mentioned but it was clean, the a/c worked, we had a comfortable bed, there's an awesome hot tub, free cookies/coffee/tea and small town service that is truly refreshing. The staff here seem happy and enjoy their jobs and we honestly felt like family.

"Great place to stay"

F2610MVjohng, Ore City, Texas 07/09/2019

We arrived on a holiday and a motorcycle rally weekend. We had 2 disabled people and a utility trailer with us. The staff was very helpful and courteous. They helped us with the trailer and stored it in a safe place until we were ready to leave. The rooms were very nice and comfortable. Very close to all the sites we wanted to see and the Million Dollar highway. Again the staff is one of the best staffs at any best western. The only improvement I would recommend is a better breakfast.

"Vacation to Durango Colorado"

William P, Hugo 05/09/2019

My wife and I took a vacation to Durango Colorado and we stayed at this Best Western and it is in a great location. The staff were very friendly and helpful and always ready to help or answer questions. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the outside property was as well. They have a very good breakfast and a great pool and hot tub. I would highly recommend staying at this property and will definitely be coming back and staying with them again.

"College Visit Home Base"

User 03/09/2019

My daughter attended Fort Lewis in Durango. I picked Best Western Mountain Shadows as my home base as it was convenient, had a pool, and the staff was extremely kind. While the rooms aren't the greatest, I enjoyed my stays.

"Excellent service!"

User 03/09/2019

Stayed 1 night here. Room is very clean and silent. Room is at night a little bit bright, but that didn't really bother us. Air conditioning works good. Employees are really kind and very, very helpful. We appreciated their amazing service!

"Pleasant and Clean"

ECO1995, Phoenix, Arizona 01/09/2019

This hotel met our expectations in every way - comfortable, clean, good breakfast. The nice young lady who checked us in was exceptional - very friendly and personable. If in Durango we would definitely consider staying here again.

"Dirty Outside"

Jpflu, Eden, Texas 30/08/2019

Outside was dirty. Old leaves and trash were apparent. Stairs had not been cleaned in years. They were filthy. They were serving fresh cookies but from the appearance of the place we were afraid to eat any. Air conditioner did not cool room. We were moved quickly. New room smelled of cleaner but AC did work a little better.

"Jessica and the staff of BW Durango - totally AWESOME!"

amycB7663JQ, Santa Rosa 27/08/2019

From the moment we walked in Jessica was amazing. She was not only friendly, informative about nearby restaurants and activities, but when she found out our visit was celebrating our anniversary... she upgraded our room and even hand delivered the extra pillows we had set up in the requested room that was already set up. Room was great! Dining for breakfast and evening snacks was perfect! All around a great experience and will return without hesitation next time we are in Durango! Hands down excellent service and Jessica played a big part in our 13th anniversary being extra special :-)

"Nice hotel"

sfhinnen, Golden, Colorado 17/08/2019

The room was an average size for 3 adults. It was an okay stay for one night. The shower was really nice pressure and it was clean with a nice layout and good space in the bathroom/shower. The sink was outside the bathroom which was convenient.

"Overall was fine"

736edb, Eagle Mountain, Utah 15/08/2019

Overall everything was OK. Check-in was pretty good. The room was fine except for how dated the building is. It was originally the mountain shadows Motel. One of my main pet peeve's is squeaky floors. My room had two very squeaky spots so I felt like I could not walk around my room comfortably without bothering the people below. Breakfast here was actually above average. Eggs and bacon with tortillas and shredded cheese and salsa. Breakfast is what bumped them from a 3 to a 4.

"Nice and comfortable"

334daisyp, Daly City 14/08/2019

We enjoyed our hotel stay in Durango. Clean and comfortable, friendly staff. Good restaurants nearby. Fun things to do in Durango and surrounding areas...hiking trails, Animas River, Durango-Silverton train. We loved it!

"Very comfortable"

donnah675, Phoenix, Arizona 11/08/2019

"Old style" hotel with rooms facing out but very comfortable. Clean room, good temperature (with fan not too loud). Parking can be tight. Employees friendly and accommodating. Good selection for breakfast. Nice area in the dome and outside the dome to soak up some sunshine and relax. Good location for Durango. Very nice! Would stay again if in the area.

"You can't tell a book by its cover!"

Kim054, Westminster, CO 08/08/2019

From the looks of the front of the hotel, to me it's nothing spectacular. My friend recommended this as a place to stay. This hotel has everything you need! Friendly staff that's willing to help you. Friendly and courteous to the max!

"Needs updates"

cindypenn1677, Clovis, New Mexico 04/08/2019

We were in Durango with our son and his family and stayed in the king suite at this hotel. There was a noticeable smell in the room upon entering and the decor didn't look like it had been changed in 30 years. However, it was roomy and had a large bathroom with double sinks which was convenient. Our 3 grandkids took turns sleeping on the pull out sofa and seemed to be comfortable. They really enjoyed the pool and hot tub after a day's worth of activity. The king pillow top bed was comfortable for my husband and I. Some of the plug ins in the room didn't work. If we were to visit Durango again, we would choose different accommodations.

"Near Depot and still very quiet"

Duane - Glenda Z, Surprise, United States 03/08/2019

The property honored all our requests for a room near the office and on the ground floor. It is a most unusual property in the the hotel's pool and spa are in the center and the rooms are around them. The laundry was free which was a big bonus for us. The room was a little small but very comfortable. Restaurants are within walking distance as well at the Durango Silverton depot. We were here for two nights and had a good experience. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly.

"Totally acceptable"

User 02/08/2019

We stayed for two nights with our family of 7. They were able to put our rooms right next to each other, which was nice. The rooms were clean, dry, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good. Tortillas were there for breakfast burritos and there were waffles, and your usual continental breakfast stuff. Our housekeeper did take our empty tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner and our soap bar, but didn't replace them, which was unfortunate, but we just broke out our own that we'd brought. 3 days later on our way back through, we had car trouble and needed two rooms, but all they had was the 2 br suite. This was less comfortable of a stay, but we dealt with it since it was an emergency. If you stay in this suite, know that the sleeper sofa bed is TERRIBLY uncomfortable and you feel every spring. The pullout bed we needed was slightly better. The bathroom in the suite doesnt have a door between the vanity/sink area and toilet/shower area, so if you have a big group showering and bathroom and getting ready stuff can be an issue, unless you don't mind peeing in front of people or have fantastic time management skills. Other than that, I'd say this is a totally acceptable hotel, especially if you are just doing a normal room.

"Comfortable stay"

User 01/08/2019

Convenient location on the the north side of town. Rooms were updated although carpets could use a good cleaning. Kids enjoyed the pool/hot tub but could use a remodel as structure was a bit dated. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

"Good place to stay"

User 26/07/2019

Room was clean. Staff was very friendly & accommodating. Beds were good. Could have used bigger pillows & more water pressure in the shower. Breakfast looked good but we had to check out early so we didn't get to experience it The staff gave us a to go breakfast

"Nice stay"

IndySwimRun, Richmond, Indiana 22/07/2019

The rooms were fairly large. Air conditioner a little noisy. The room was clean but showing its age in the bathroom. Good shower. Indoor pool and hot tub were well maintained with towels. Typical motel breakfast which didn't vary so it was quite predictable. On the plus side, there was a "do not make up this room option" for the first night and it worked. But subsequently, despite hanging our towels, etc., they were replaced each day.

"clean but tattered"

User 12/07/2019

The staff was nice, the bed was comfortable. Sleeping with the outdated AC systems was impossible. It sounded like a freight train. The rooms were quite tattered although except for the carpet seemed clean.

"Stay at Best Western"

michelle s, edgewood, nm 01/07/2019

Such a cute place, super clean and the staff are awesome. Beautiful array of breakfast items each morning and fresh fruit and coffee served all night. I will definitely stay here again for my next stay. I couldn't believe how quiet each room is, I honestly never heard the people next to us or above us either.

"Vacation Getaway"

Waukeshaw, Rotan, Texas 30/06/2019

Rooms were very clean and the bed was great!! Had a coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator, heated pool. The motel is close to the center of town which was great. They also went out of their way to make sure I had a downstairs room! Will be staying here again

"Great guest service"

goodtimes-awaitin, Tucson, Arizona 29/06/2019

This hotel was comfortable and we had a spacious suite for our family of 5. Breakfast was good, but most of all the employees were very hospitable! My daughter forgot her AirPods in the room and they held them for us and offered to ship them back. Will stay here next time we are in Durango!

User 24/06/2019

Locations is okay. Rooms need more improvements. Stay at many bestwestern brand hotels and for us this was not a great experience or stay. For bestwestern this was on very low end and value was not worth it. Next time will stay at bwplus downtown.

"On the low end for best westerns "

User 22/06/2019

I usually like best westerns because the price / quality makes them a good value. I'm surprised this one has good reviews - this is definitely on the LOW END. It is obvious the upkeep and overall maintenance of the room has been neglected...take a look at the photo of the TV wires for an example of what I'm talking about. I was surprised they are ok with rooms looking like this. The room wasn't dirty by any means ... just overall run down and feels like a cheap hotel compared to what you pay for. Pool was fun for the kids and the breakfast was decent.

jesusfreak47, Canon City, Colorado 28/05/2019

Elandra Amato and her staff were so friendly and helpful. They all went out of their way to make my stay great.I have stayed in many hotels and have never experienced this level of customer service. Every staff member that I encountered was so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

"Good location"

kdpbball, Clifton Park, New York 24/05/2019

We wanted to stay two nights in Durango so that we could take the train to Silverton and experience Mesa Verde National Park. We did both. The hotel is motel style with rooms facing the parking lot. Our room was a double queen. It was clean and comfortable. Thank you Bradley! Breakfast was basic, enough choices to start the day. We especially enjoyed the Green Chile made by the Durango Diner. The pool and hot tub are enclosed in a bubble structure across from the main lobby. Our stay was fine. Our sightseeing goals were met.

"Awesome place to stay and the staff were friendly and informative about the area."

Dale O, Baldwin, Wisconsin 16/05/2019

We stayed here during our trip our to the west coast this pass May. We had a very nice room and were quite comfortable. The bed was comfortable to sleep on. The bathroom was nice and clean. The front desk staff were very helpful and made suggestions for places to eat in the area.

"Great staff!"

leahb908, East Troy, Wisconsin 07/05/2019

We were here for one night on our way across the country. I pre-booked the hotel online, sight unseen, based only on its good reviews. It looks dated on the outside, but has been completely remodeled on the inside. The staff are SO friendly and helpful. This is a hidden gem and if we ever pass thru Durango again, we will stay here.

"Breakfast Problem"

PKN41, Charlestown, Indiana 27/04/2019

The hotel had a "no vacancy" when we drove up and we saw other no vacancy signs as we were driving up the street. We had reservations so not a problem there. The room was just ok - it needs updating. It seemed clean and the beds were comfortable. When checking in, the clerk said breakfast is from 6-10am. There is a sign in the room that says 6-10am. When on vacation, most days we like to sleep in so we went down to eat around 9:25. When we were getting our food, an attendant came out and said she would give us a few minutes to eat, but they close at 9:30am. We told her what the clerk told us the night before and she just repeated the time to us. We had not yet sat down when two more people came in, then four came in and then one. They had already removed the bread trays and the bacon and eggs container. The one person alone asks if he could just have a piece of fruit, banana, apple or whatever she had. She told him they had none. The woman in the party of four, told her the sign said 10am. The attendant said we are closed. The woman asked for the manager and finally they were allowed to eat. She said it is slow season and we always close at 9:30 during slow season. The sign said "no vacancy" so that does not seem slow. As we were walking to our car, we saw another family going in and do not know what happened. Granted, they can set the hours they serve, but they need to abide by the hours they set. The sign in the room said nothing about slow season and if it did, it should give dates. Best Westerns seem to be going downhill.

"My "Go To" in Durango"

RickJ24, Highlands Ranch, Colorado 26/04/2019

Convenient, quiet. Good breakfast. Huge parking lot. This is on the north side of town--but on the major highway going through town. We also enjoyed a great stake at the "Ore House"--about a five minute drive.

"Perfect night away"

danielaw510, Rio Rancho, New Mexico 22/04/2019

Durango is 3 hours away from home and wanted a quick trip out of reality. I arrived to being told about fresh cookies and wonderful local coffee. Delicious coffee. Enjoyed the beautiful tub and breakfast. Was perfect for a quick mental fix.

"Mountain Getaway!"

Nice place to stay when in Ruidoso, NM! Clean, lots of hot water, spa outside and river view! Will stay there again and again! Counter people were all very nice and helpful about where to eat a good steak!

"Walls too thin"

modernmagi, Minneapolis, Minnesota 12/04/2019

This is a GREAT fact I was about to say in 4 months on the road in 4 was best yet. BUT - there's adjoining door in our room and when person next door enters its like they are entering our room. And I wanted peace quiet to do my work (which requires it) & have had to endure loud music and tv. No car in front of room. But worse - only 4 cars in entire lot (why would management put someone right next to us unless they are oblivious to privacy preferences and the adjoining door) Clean. Good rate. Nice jacuzzi. Friendly front desk staff but beware of this. The A/C unit can drown it out. TV on normal decibel does not.

"Quiet, reasonably priced refuge from long day of hectic weather"

572beverlyb, Pleasant Hill, California 12/04/2019

Finding Mountain Shadows was perfect after driving for over 10 ours. Clean QUIET, warm, comfortable room welcomed us. Breakfast the following morning was attractively prepared. The addition of a hot chili condiment for the eggs made my morning. Spicy, savory, fragrant addition to hotel breakfast options.

"Awesome front desk staff!"

Michelecrawford1, Silt, Colorado 07/04/2019

We had reservations for two nights and I first night, our neighbors were very loud. I first called the front desk to let them know but mistakenly gave them the wrong room number so obviously the noise continued. So I walked to the front desk to tell them. I told them we were there for a volleyball game so had to get up very early in the morning the next two days. They said they would handle it and either I could get out of my reservation or they would move me the next night. They went straight to the room, which I could hear and let them know either they quiet down or they will be evicted. They next day after we got back from the volleyball games, they moved us to the opposite end of the hotel and made sure we had no neighbors. Hotel rooms were nice for the price and very spacious. I would definitely stay here again.

"durango mountain shadow"

Thomas C, Grants, United States 22/03/2019

good hotel for cost. a little way from downtown. beds however are not comfortable at all. Nice pool and hot tub, pool is 9 feet deep, deepest pool i have seen at a hotel. parking is a bit cramped. I will stay again, and try a different bed style

"The staff makes the difference"

mayorbarry, IL 19/02/2019

I highly recommend the Best Western Mountain Shadows after our last stay. The hotel is very well-located, a quick walk to the Purgatory shuttle, the $1 trolley to downtown Durango, and a full supermarket and liquor store. The rooms were clean, the hot tub and pool are awesome, and the bed was great. But what really made our stay great were the people working there. Everyone was very nice and also went out of their way to help us. They were always working hard and helping guests. We got a big snow one day and the night manager was out shoveling at 11PM!

"Awesome Sauna"

User 17/02/2019

awesome pool and sauna, chech in was fast, room was very clean, bed was very comfortable, hot breakfast was okay buty they run out of food early due to a lot og guests being at the hotel during the weekend. wifi was fast, parking lot gets filled quickly get here early to avoid parking far away from your room

"great location. would highly recommend!"

User 02/02/2019

the only downsides to this hotel: it's old and a bit cramped. not much they can do about either of those. maybe a remodel would help the bathroom not feel so old and newer heaters in the room would hopefully be quieter. The lobby and breakfast area were very well kept and inviting. The staff were great! location can't be beat! very nice to be walking distance from City Market and local liquor store. The room was adequate in every way. Pillows and sheets were very soft and comfy and for the price the value was superb.

"Noisy and needing some work"

Brandon K, Flagstaff, Arizona 25/12/2018

In laws caught up to us in Durango for holiday family get together and they were really wishing they had not booked here. Windows were not set correctly, which made sure they had plenty of road noise all night long. While work was done on the place sometime in the last decade as a guess, the place was old and worn. In fact, the main draw was the pool for the little ones, and that was not great either. As some others have said, this place works if you just need to get here, but you can certainly do better.

"Unclean, noisy, in disrepair"

User 24/12/2018

This hotel would have met basic needs as a basic hotel, but the room was unclean, both hot tubs were broken, the pool area was dirty, the base board heat was very noisy, and the other guests were loud at all hours of the night. The positives were the breakfast and the convenient location. I will not be staying there again.

"Quiet, clean and fantastic"

Global16923505440, Edmond, Oklahoma 23/12/2018

Great place to stay! Staff is friendly and helpful, and our room was spotless. I couldn't have found a crumb if I tried! Will stay here again on our next family trip. Dan & Leondra helped me over the phone to upgrade our room prior to check in. We had a 2 bedroom queen suite, and it made our trip so much easier since we were traveling with our kids. We especially appreciated the separate climate control in each bedroom... We didn't have to fight over the thermostat once! :)

"Horrible stay!"

saintsgirlhere, New Orleans, Louisiana 14/12/2018

I inquired about the pool & hot tub before reserving, relaxation was needed! After unpacking in the room I headed for the pool, Out of Service said the sign. I had a free nights stay across the street with my Choice Rewards at a hotel with no pool! $79 waste

"Great value!"

lteak, Clovis, New Mexico, United States 19/11/2018

We got a super deal on our room. It was nicely updated, contained a microwave and frig. The king bed was so-so. Staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The breakfast included eggs, bacon and GREEN CHILI SAUCE!!!! Kaching!!

"Nice Hotel"

VictorVC, Kent, United Kingdom 15/11/2018

We stayed here for two nights as part of our US road trip. First up, great check in from Jacob in the reception. First class chap. Hotel is a little dated in appearance but, more importantly, the rooms were all neat and clean. Good TV service, plenty of channels. Wifi was a bit erratic at times. Breakfast was average, perfectly OK for the room rate. We enjoyed using the pool a couple of times. And it was nice and warm! We used this hotel as a base to visit Mesa Verde National Park. We would happily return again to this hotel.

aekatrina, Durango, Colorado 15/10/2018

I came to Durango for a vacation weekend and I absolutely recommend this property to stay at! Everyone from the front desk staff to the housekeepers were very guest friendly and professional and I will be returning here the next time I am in Durango!

"Okay but Could Have Been Much Better"

NSMKMelbourne, Melbourne 14/10/2018

This motel is a long way out of the central part of Durango about 1.5 miles north on the road to Silverton. The rooms are pretty standard Best Western and are okay but no frills. We had a room with two queens and both beds had plastic underlays over the mattress. The plastic stops the mattress from breathing and makes the beds uncomfortable and noisy. Breakfast was also pretty standard but the breakfast room is a bit small and we found it difficult to find a table. On the plus side the coffee was very good. The people at reception were very helpful. We will consider staying here again next time we are in Durango if the price is right.

"Not fancy but will do the trick for an overnight"

User 14/10/2018

Rather at the basic end of the scale but clean and will do the trick. It is a motel-style lay-out so be aware when you book. Rooms are reasonably spacious but on the dark side - not a lot of natural light and lighting is so so. Beds were quite comfortable, hair dryer is good! Room freshener too strong. Breakfast was very basic so we chose to go to the Starbucks a bit further down the road.

"Train Ride"

amber342, Chino Valley, Arizona 13/10/2018

Front desk staff was great, very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room had a microwave, fridge, coffee pot and blow dryer in it. The only thing I didn't like was the air conditioner fan was a little loud. Other than that it was great.

"Pretty good for the rate"

lisantie, Chandler, Arizona 12/10/2018

Stayed for one night while passing through. Room was clean, bed was decent. Girls at check in were very nice. Had the complimentary breakfast before we left the next morning and daughter enjoyed the homemade waffles. Overall not bad.

O496YVpatriciag, Little River, South Carolina 10/10/2018

This hotel was just the location we needed. The price was acceptable. A little dog-eared in appearance outside but the room was great. The bed was comfortable and the room was a great size. The check in staff was super. A good, economical choice for a stopover

"BW Travelers"

ashleysJ6833PR, Colorado Springs, United States 08/10/2018

Our stay was not bad. rooms were clean. There were a couple of things that could be fixed. Breakfast wasn't anything great. it was great but wasn't bad either. We enjoyed the stay, our suite was nice but could have had more lighting.

"Perfect except for strong deodorizer in the room"

Riverlife M, Westley 07/10/2018

Room was older but well maintained and clean. I would probably not stay here again because of the strong deodorizer or cleaning chemical sprayed in the room but they told me if I had notified them in advance, they would not spray so I'll give them one more try. It's just too bad they even feel the need to spray in the first place.

"Plesant stay away from nome."

User 06/10/2018

No surprises. A pleasant and straightforward place to lay your head down for the night. Close proximity to down town and to other excursions in the surrounding areas including the Rockies. If you're looking a budget deal, you could do a lot worse. Recommended.

"Great hotel and location"

User 27/09/2018

Great place, great staff! Rooms updated, clean and comfortable. We have stayed at this hotel before and, as always, it didn't disappoint! Love the town of Durango and took the trolley down the main area of town.

"back in Durango again"

mike m, Escondido, California 22/09/2018

talking with girls at check in it was good to be back, great place, very busy, make your own burrito for breakfast with Durango Diner chile, sorry Gary, next time for breakfast, very nice facility, a bit out of town so quiet

"Great location, great beds"

lessismore76, Albuquerque, New Mexico 08/09/2018

Loved this place. Early in the evening you hear some traffic, but it calms down. You can walk to Zio Taquira for a hearty healthy meal. Nice staff, clean rooms, large rooms, beautiful pool we didn't use. Nice place to stop after driving over the Million Dollar Highway.

"Great stay, friendly staff, clean rooms"

jallens5, Red River, New Mexico 06/09/2018

We had a great time during our stay at the Best Western Mountain Shadows. Our room was very clean and roomy. We had clean, fresh sheets on comfortable beds. The staff was friendly. We enjoyed the hot tub. The breakfast was very good. We had Bacon, eggs, waffles and the coffee was yummy too.

"Awesome pool"

User 04/09/2018

My friends and I stayed for 2 nights while exploring Durango. Pleasant surprise for the price! Clean room with all essentials (bonus: 2 full sized mirrors haha). Big pool with jacuzzi on the side. Breakfast was sufficient. Close to restaurants and grocery. Would definitely stay again. :)

"Not my favorite best western "

551celesteu, Orem, Utah 30/08/2018

I am a huge fan of Best Western hotels but this one was a little disappointing. Let me say it was clean like all Best Western hotel/motel standards which I appreciate and is one of the main reasons I like to stay at Best Westerns but when my co worker took a shower it took 20 minutes to get hot water and our bathroom sink was very slow to drain. The beds were so hard that neither of us slept very well, in fact we both were awake at 4am because our bodies were hurting. I hate to give a best western a bad review but this was a rough stay.

"Family vacation"

User 19/08/2018

Staff, room, pool and location were great. We really enjoyed the breakfast each morning. Would recommend this hotel, and will stay at Best Western Mountain Shadows when we return to Durango in the future.

"Good Value for the money"

User 17/08/2018

Kind of a last minute trip down to Durango, rates looked easy at this hotel and it still had rooms available. I probably wasn't expecting much for the bargain cost, but the room was updated and very clean, had everything I needed and was quiet. Family friendly, nice pool and hot tub Walking distance to liquor and grocery stores, restaurants. Staff was friendly and helpful.

"Canceled our reservation and still charged!!"

User 02/08/2018

I cancelled our reservations a week prior to our visit and we were charged almost $600 anyways!! I called 5 times and had to get rude with the young kids that work there to finally get a call back from a young girl who had no customer skills at all!! Says the can't take the charges off for 3 to 5 days!!! Then she talks like she is 12 to me...hollering into the phone. She was a front desk clerk...not even the manager that we have left 5 messages for! Just save yourself and DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS HOTEL.

Sorry for the confusion on this issue. We did issue a refund to your credit card after speaking with you. Credit card processors can take up to 8-10 business days to issue refunds. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to speed up that process. Again I apologize for this issue.

"Nice location"

DIANNEJL, San Antonio, Texas 30/07/2018

Clean, spacious room, comfortable bed. Nice pool/hot tub. Good breakfast with well maintained dining area. Friendly, helpful staff. Only complaint is the room had a window unit air conditioner that had a hard time keeping the room cool and was loud. It was also installed so high I couldn't reach the controls (I'm 5'1) but my husband was able to reach it. Otherwise our stay was really good and comfortable.

"Very nice!"

Leah B, Albuquerque, New Mexico 25/07/2018

Very clean room. A few stains on carpet, door had to be pushed hard to make sure it closed. Very clean bathroom! A slip resistant pad was provided and was also very clean! Microwave, good size fridge, nice size sink area for all four of us, ac worked great and drowns out noise from Main street. The noise is tolerable but if your a light sleeper bring some plugs. Front desk was friendly and helpful and sent someone right away when we had sound issue with the tv (which fixed itself). Pool and hot tub are small and outdated with some small dome leaks when it was raining but the kids still had fun. Overall we would stay here again!

Keturah D, Seminole, Oklahoma 25/07/2018

We were very pleased with the room. Had plenty of space for 2 people and I like how bathroom was separated from main room. Friendly front desk service. Breakfast was average for hotels - but sitting area was nice . Only thing needed was a soap dish by sink for you had to lay the bar of soap on the counter top - bothered my OCD. Lol. If in this area again would stay here for sure ?? Make you get room on the bottom floor

"Family vaca"

Kathy W, Flagstaff, Arizona 23/07/2018

"Excellent hotel with fantastic service!"

User 17/07/2018

We always like to stay at Mt. Shadows in Durango!!! The service from the staff is excellent, the beds are comfortable, rooms are clean, and they have the best pool anywhere! We have stayed the past three summers and will keep going back each time we go to Durango - every summer! I totally recommend this hotel!

"Amazing Rooms and Breakfast"

ascarlett2018, Parachute, Colorado 16/07/2018

The room we stayed in was much larger than most rooms I've stayed in at other hotels. For breakfast they had several options and homemade green chili that was amazing and delicious. Our bed was extremely comfortable and the location was convenient.

"Good place to stay while visiting Durango"

rocktravel, kentucky 11/07/2018

As with all Best Western hotels its hard to predict the property condition without reading reviews. This place is a older facility but its in pretty good shape. Our room was clean, the beds were ok, the bathroom was ok, the towels were ok. It had a microwave and fridge and tv. The ac was a window unit type instead of a through the wall type typical of hotel rooms but it did the job despite the 90 degree heat. The 416 fire made the whole town smell like smoke but the room did an adequate job of holding the smoke back. This will pass in a few more days so it is not a long term issue. The staff was nice and right by the office they had a laundry and ice machine room. The pool and hot tub are really pretty good for their age, the pool actually had a deep end at 9 ft so you know its been there a while. The hot tub was tile and worked well. Even with a cold wind blowing off a thunderstorm the pool area was warm enough to go swimming. The pool dome is right in front next to the sidewalk. The dome over the pool was older but its doing its job the way its supposed too. The sitting area next to the pool outside the dome was nice too with several chairs. Parking was a little tight as is typical with this style of lodging but there were enough places to go around. Breakfast was good with bacon, eggs, breads, cereal, waffles etc. And the all important green salsa found in this area. I would stay here again no problem, I would not call this a destination resort but in all honesty you are probably looking for a place to stay to get on the train. Durango is not Ouray, it has a historic downtown but on the other side of town it also has walmart,a mall area, red lights, traffic, and everything that goes with a town of its size. This place does have the advantage of parking right in front of the rooms so if you have a lot of luggage or mobility issues your car is close.

"Great room, great breakfast"

HeikeJo, Little Falls, Minnesota 30/06/2018

Breakfast burritos with local green chili sauce. Fabulous! Fruit, juice, waffles, bacon, eggs, tortillas, pastries, cereal. Nice pool in a central location. Rooms comfy and roomy. Front desk staff very nice, helpful.

"Did not live up to reviews"

AlliGrace, Macon, Mississippi 24/06/2018

Positives: very clean room, receptionist was very professional and helpful. Negatives: breakfast was chaos. Out of so many things, waffles stuck to waffle iron, couldn't keep coffee filled. Air conditioner did not work right and when we got there receptionist was getting another guest to different room because AC didn't work. So definitely could use some help. But neither was it an awful experience.

"Nice Stay"

William S, Wylie, Texas, United States 19/06/2018

Clean, quiet, and affordable is all you need to know. Thank you Best Western for offering rooms to the firefighters so bravely fought the fires just above Durango. Great. The free Continental breakfast which is included offered eggs, bacon, and of course our favorite waffle maker, plus many more items. Enjoy your stay.

We stayed here for one night. The hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Although we did not use the pool or hot tub because we were too tired it did look inviting. The staff was super friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable. Would recommend this hotel.

"Awesome 3 night stay in Durango!"

Patti P, Aurora, Colorado 29/05/2018

Everything about our 3 night stay was perfect! The breakfast was awesome & the entire staff (from font desk to room cleaning crew) were so very friendly and helpful. The room is clean, nicely updated & super easy access. We enjoyed the pool & the hot tub a lot! They have the best pillows in the world and the added benefit of a great location on Main Street! We will definitely stay here again the next time we come to Durango!

"Great place to stay"

reneebob, Tacoma, Washington 28/05/2018

Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Had a great room, nice and clean. I thought the breakfast, which is included with the room, was better than most. Also nice to have a washer and dryer on the property. Just a short drive to Old Town Durango.

"Very Satisfied"

User 14/05/2018

This is the second time I have stayed here and am quite impressed with the staff and facilities. Stay very helpful and courteous. Will be staying here anytime I am in the Durango area. Close to bike path, grocery store and good restaurants. Rooms are comfortable and quiet.

"Surprisingly Good"

AjaxTraveller26, Toronto, Ontario 14/05/2018

We just finished a two week road trip and this was one of the best hotels we stayed in. Got a great rate through a 3rd-party site and everything was better than expected: beds, breakfast, cleanliness, service. Despite not being a Best Western "Plus", it was a perfect place to stop for the night.

"Bed too hard, otherwise 5 stars"

P L, Prescott, Arizona 13/05/2018

This hotel is located at the northern side of town, making it a great location for driving into the San Juan's for adventure. Room very clean with a very friendly and attentive housekeeping staff. Breakfast had a great variety, including local green chile that was a very welcome addition to the scrambled eggs. The breakfast area was very busy Saturday morning but the staff kept up with stocked items and took it all in stride with a smile. The beds are the only downside. The mattress is VERY firm. Many hotels haven't caught on to the latest data showing medium firm mattresses are best for sleep and health. Otherwise, this property would deserve 5 stars.

"Great place to stay!"

mchavez3124, Peralta, New Mexico 11/05/2018

Such friendly staff! They were very helpful with everything, including suggesting great places to eat as well as have a drink. Rooms were well equipped with everything we needed. Breakfast was very good as well. Will definitely be staying again next time I'm in Durango.

"The pool can't be ignored!"

SAC525, Queen Creek, Arizona 10/05/2018

Mix up with our reservation was handled happily and efficiently by the wonderful Miss Juanis, our room was clean, comfy and well appointed. interesting to find a new pedestal sink in a chain property. Nicely configured hidden area containing a second sink and countertop area, microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker and closet. Will never understand why some hotels put the fridge/convenience items in the middle of a wall next to the tv. Nice to have that hidden. Rather hardish beds but great bedding and pillows. The pool and hot tub are awesome. Enclosed in a plexiglass dome. ???????? Not much in the way of views, buy well located at the North end of town. Quiet. Very nice breakfast buffet with the addition of some funky chili from a local restaurant. Sweet. Will stay here again next time we come through Durango.

"We will be back."

Karen R, Colorado Springs 07/05/2018

The staff, location, breakfast were all exemplary. We were comfortable. The pool was too deep for young kids but it was pleasantly warm are we made it work. The breakfast had variety and complete. Green chili is delicious

"Great stay"

rkunic, Aurora, Colorado 05/05/2018

Went back to this hotel again while in Durango for my step-daughters graduation from college. The room was great as before and the staff was very friendly during our stay. It shows that if you have great service you will have repeat business.

"Not so friendly staff members"

chaconml30, Monte Vista, Colorado 23/04/2018

When I checked in no one was at the front desk and I had to wait 7 minutes. When a female employee did walk in she did not greet or welcome me. She was not friendly and chastised me as if I was child on my parking. I told her once I check in I will move my vehicle. She stated several times about parking between lines and if I don't she will wake me up to move my vehicle. Other members of our group also had complaints of her rudeness. She told them about parking and if anyone was in the pool and didn't know what room they were staying in they will immediately be kicked out. The two employees who checked me out were very friendly and professional. I will not stay at this hotel again.

"Older site, recently remodelled - Nice stay!"

BobbiOnTheRoad, British Columbia, Canada 21/04/2018

While it is evident this is an older site, the upgrades in the room show pride in the property. The staff team is young, vibrant and welcoming; we enjoyed a 'feel' of Colorado culture from their warm attitudes. We slept well; the remote operated a/c unit is a little louder than newer models, but having it located in the wall in the back of the room helped. Really great breakfast buffet, with tortillas for a 'build your own breakfast burrito'! The salsa was excellent, too - nice stay!

"Best Best Western"

Teatoy, San Francisco, California 16/04/2018

This hotel is a gem--recently redecorated, it is very comfortable and clean. It has an amazing pool (9 ft. deep on one side) and a hot tub under a very remarkable glass dome structure that lets natural light in. The breakfast is plentiful and satisfying, even including the excellent --and spicy!--green chili from Durango Diner. The decor of the lobby and the breakfast room is fresh and pleasant, but what made our stay special was the amazing service provided by Jessica, the night and morning front desk manager. Yes, she doubled up, checking us in at 11 pm, and then being there again at 7 am in the morning, still very courteous and helpful. The price was right, the internet free, the breakfast plentiful and the parking free. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

"If traveling to Durango, stay here!"

Laura L, Conroe, Texas, United States 08/04/2018

We just returned home from staying 9 nights in a row at this hotel. Between the staff, pool, spa, breakfast, hotel, everything was great! Thank you again to the staff, ya'll were great & we enjoyed our stay with you!

"Solid stay"

User 04/04/2018

Has everything you need, nothing super fancy. Breakfast was good, people are very helpful. If you are going skiing, it is right on the way out of town as close as you can get to the ski area. Also close to good food options.

"Would stay again"

Stephanie L, Oklahoma 27/03/2018

My husband and I stayed one night here while in Durango. It's on the main highway and easy to find. The rooms were clean, bed very comfortable, and bathroom clean. We enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. My only wish was that the pool/hot tub was connected to the hotel so you wouldn't have to walk through parking lot.

COGringo, Colorado 26/02/2018

Just OK, inside pool. So ok. Town is fine. Not the best in CO. It is what it is. Wanna swim- good place. I am not sure what to say. It's ok clean but could be better. No food there. Old- looks like it was a HOJO.

"Good for price/location"

Stephanie K, Camden, United States 02/01/2018

This hotel was great for location and price compared to others near it, although not the best - hot water in the bathroom was a hit or miss, the internet was slow at times but the staff and express checkout were great, and breakfast had bacon!

"What a nice place!"

a1139ch2015, Urbana, illinois 09/12/2017

Wonderful staff all around, including the pool manager. They seemed like one big happy family which shows excellent management. Breakfast was good and the area was clean and well tended. Overall the property is very clean, quiet and well kept. The Pool is the best!

"Durango BW"

rsewem, Russell, Kansas 27/11/2017

We had a quick trip to Durango for the Polar Express and this Best Western was very clean and nice. The breakfast was excellent and had many choices. The pool looked clean but we didn't have time to use it on this trip.

"great location and staff"

4brucef, Tijeras, United States 26/11/2017

the staff here are always very accommodating. whether directions to a restaurant or assistance with hotel needs and this location is great for a short bus ride downtown or local mountain bike trails and skiing.

"Clean, Affordable, Great"

jamiemarie2017, Fort Collins, Colorado 25/11/2017

Great experience. We were actually very impressed with the overall cleanliness and quality, especially for the price. From making the reservation to checking out, it was all just an easy and pleasant experience. King bed was comfortable, rooms were clean, lobby was clean, staff was friendly and breakfast was more than just packaged pastries. They even had local green chili.

"Great Getaway!"

132leanns, Dolores, United States 13/11/2017

This place had nice customer service. Clean rooms and especially the bathroom. Great breakfast! The pool was heated but the dome it is located in was a bit cold for a November night. The next morning it was warmed up by the sun! Will stay again soon!

"Best Western Stay"

shannonrF1291AY, Littleton, United States 13/11/2017

Very nice stay. Wonderful staff members who are very accomodating. Very nice room and breakfast on site. Right next to main street that takes you directly downtown. Though the hot tub was out of order during our stay, the pool was wonderful. Would recommend to anyone wishing to stay in Durango.

"Nice friendly place to stay in Durango"

Poudre1, Bellvue, Colorado 31/10/2017

We stayed two nights, October 27 & 28, 2017. We stayed in room 129 which is close to the highway. Quiet except when loud mufflers or loud motorcycles go by. Room was very clean with soft beds, ample soft towels, refer, micro, coffee maker and ample coffee. Very nice large flat screen with a large choice of channels. The only negative for me was the pillows. They suck. The check in and check out was easy with both staff members quite friendly. The no charge breakfast was hot and tasty and plenty of choices. My only complaint is the bacon being under cooked. The price was quite reasonable. All the staff members were very helpful and friendly. I will stay there again.

"Great Quality Good Price"

Y5375YVdavidb, Windsor, United States 29/10/2017

A very well kept motel with comfortable beds and very quiet rooms. It was a good nights rest without all the hassles associated with a traditional hotel (e.g. noisy hall ways with slamming doors). The pool area is especially unique.

"Amazing for the price!"

Animal_Lover_fromUS, London, United Kingdom 27/10/2017

Last minute stay and I was delightedly surprised by the size and charm of the room and the comfort of the bed!! Everything was great and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Great value!! Will stay here again when I have time to swim.

"Convenient and Comfortable"

wander4evr, Three Rivers, California 26/10/2017

The Mountain Shadows was one of the better hotels we stayed at a long our cross country journey. I would say it was probably $20 more than it should be but I do not feel cheated in the least. The rooms accommodating and its location to Mesa Verde and downtown Durango made it extremely accessible. The concierge was a little disconnected but not any way that was negative, she was just slightly robotic in her narrative of upsetting and pushing for goals, which is the job so I get it and no ill will upon her. I would make Mountain Shadows the destination for anyone looking to spend time in Durango or if your just passing on by.

"Will stay again"

User 23/10/2017

Very clean and comfortable. Staff was very nice. Loved everything. The rooms were bigger than expected. I was able to bring in both of my road bikes and still had lots of room to roam around. I will book this hotel again for my next outing.

"Needs updating"

User 22/10/2017

Noisy, tub dirty, carpets dirty, but having a hot tub in my room is the sh** I love hot tubs. No ventilation in bathrooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. Toilet didn't flush right I had to hold the handle down.

"Not that great of a room for the price"

Kathleen C, Aurora 19/10/2017

Had to change rooms because of the smell of smoke in first room. Wanting to soak in a hot tub after driving all day, the water was lukewarm at best and the drain in the tub leaked. Door on the freezer was broken so could not freeze my ice packs and food thawed, the alarm clock went off at midnight when I hadn't set it to go off at all.

"Great Stay"

BluRavdriver, Livermore, California 13/10/2017

We had a very nice stay here. We were on a long road trip and appreciated the on-site laundry. Our room was large and comfortable, The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. We would definitely stay here again. We stayed here in early October and it was cold at night but there was heat in the room and we were very comfortable without needing extra blankets.

"Okay except loud air conditioner and low lights."

Woof928394956, Albuquerque, New Mexico 13/10/2017

Impossible to read with very low wattage bulbs and sack of bed linen required use of air conditioner to control temperature in bed. I don't know who thought those things are a good idea. Air conditioner was very noisy and with cold weather shouldn't have required it.

"If hotels are more costly here than Santa Fe give this 3 stars or 3/1/2"

chris p, Portland, Oregon 12/10/2017

Some of the rooms had no heat and the customers before us were getting blankets. End of Sept in Durango it can be nearly freezing. The heating unit worked in our place but the trash was not taken out by our sink. Maintenance was clearly not up to average Best Western. Really nice guy at desk.

"Two Nights In Durango"

Lawrence W, Blandon, United States 12/10/2017

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was also very good. My only negative comment is that the outside lighting at the property could be better as it's hard to find in the dark.

"Pleasant, comfortable stay"

ateacher30, Norvelt, Pennsylvania 12/10/2017

The staff at this Best Western were so pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast choices each day. The rooms could use some updating, but they were clean and comfortable. Beds were very comfortable and plenty of linens were provided. We used the pool and hot tub each evening. Very pleased with our choice for the price. Great value.

"Good experience"

John M, Bakersfield, United States 10/10/2017

Have stayed here before. Always a good experience. Place is convenient to local attractions. Staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and fresh. There are 3 Best Western facilities in this city, but we prefer this one because of location.

"Older, but clean"

Donna C, Raleigh, North Carolina 10/10/2017

We spent one night here on our way through town. Room was big enough for our needs, and was clean. We had the room next to the road, so there was a good bit of road noise, but it wasn't unbearable. We would stay here again, if ever in the area.

"Old and dated"

Y507JBdebrab, Lake Zurich, Illinois 02/10/2017

Motel type room with a musty odor and leading ceiling did not make me happy. Also, hotel was as far away as it could be from the heart of the town of Durango. Personnel were pleasant but overall I felt the photos were deceptive.

"Oldie but goodie"

Bill b, Sneads Ferry, North Carolina 01/10/2017

Our annual vacation to a new destination. This hotel was definitely dated but well maintained. We were originally put in rm 200 which was a nightmare. Horrible step down from front door, which was hazardous if you forgot. There was mold odor. It took 5 minutes for water to get hot and finally, the heat did not work. So why do they rate excellent? The young night manager, Cameron, had us in another room within the 1/2 hour in spite of it being the height of check in time. The new room was wonderful. The facility is old but well maintained and clean. The indoor pool with perpetual skylight was always warm and the hot tub was great. Breakfast was excellent and the breakfast manager was lovely and answered all our questions about the Durango area. She was hospitable and invaluable. Supermarkets, liquor stores were accessible. For those interested in taking in a cannabis dispensary, there is one within walking distance. Also close by is the Serious Texas Bar-B-Q. This is a great find and all food here is great. Remember also that fresh baked cookies are usually in after 3pm.

"Nice staff but hotel below most Best Western"

William P, Sedona, United States 30/09/2017

Durango maybe expensive, that is the only way I can explain the price seeming to be higher than the quality received. Maintenance like loud bath fans and heating problems seem chronic. Nice staff though,. don't avoid the hotel if the options that are better are much more expensive in Durango.

"Great value"

Ginnie C, Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania 26/09/2017

Exceptionally clean and comfortable hotel at a great price! Breakfast was fine and the wi-fi worked well. Trolley pick up right outside to take you down town and not have to look for parking. Nice comfortable bed and pillows with a good breakfast selection.

"Great stay"

Pam W, Dewey 23/09/2017

Best Western Mountain Shadows room was clean and nicely decorated (although not fancy). The staff was very friendly especially the gal at breakfast. The free breakfast was the best we have ever had. Area was always clean and tidy. Quality of the food was first rate, especially the green chili sauce.

Karyn L, San Luis Obispo County, California 22/09/2017

A little far from town - internet didn't work despite 2 attempts to tell them. Just average accommodations. Nothing in the room to help with services or local things to do. I found out about a shuttle that runs on Main Street on my own.

"Hotel was nice & adequate"

BigJoBR, Baton Rouge, LA 21/09/2017

The hotel is on the North side of Durango, away from the busyness & congestion of down town. Hotel was nice, clean, generally quiet. Breakfast is included, from 6-10 I think. Breakfast was adequate, scrambled eggs, bacon, make your own waffles, 3 types of cereals, a selection of bread, rolls & bagels, juice & coffee. The rooms were comfortable & clean. We would stay there again.

"Comfortable Room"

User 20/09/2017

Room was comfortable and clean. Price was reasonable for a tourist location. Nice pool and hot tub. Breakfast selection was acceptable, would have like to see more fruit strawberries, melon, pineapple etc....there were oranges..only other fruit was from fruit toppings for waffle.

"Older, but good."

John M, Simmern, Germany 19/09/2017

The reception was friendly, clean, and modern. They were very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was ok and plentiful. Outside the hotel was well kept, and the large covered pool was well maintained. The room showed its age, the furniture was damaged and the carpets stained, but it was very clean and comfortable none the less. The wi-fi worked very well.

"Great value"

dalep315, St George Ut, United States 19/09/2017

Great value and location in Durango, Colorado. Clean, if somewhat dated, rooms. Good breakfast selection. Friendly staff. Pool clean. Laundry room and hallways clean. Would stay there again and recommend to family and friends based on price and location.

"Large clean rooms"

User 19/09/2017

Rooms are large and clean. the walls were masonry so our room was very quiet. Train is only mile and a half a way ..Front desk girls are extremely helpful.. Good restaurants are walking distance.. Good breakfast

"Close to the train!"

User 14/09/2017

Great start to a trip on the Durango Silverton railroad. Quiet and comfortable stay with nice breakfast each morning. The state was friendly and very eager to please. Had an issue with the hairdryer that was quickly corrected by the night staff.

"great place to stay"

Linda B, Morrison, United States 14/09/2017

Parking is a little cramped. Rooms are ample sized, comfortable beds, clean bathroom area, coffee maker, micro, refrigerator. Had asked for a ground floor room but one was not available so was upgraded to a room with a Jacuzzi on 2nd floor!

"Nice stay in Durango"

KAMc777, Castle Rock, Colorado 12/09/2017

A nice place to stay in Durango. The staff was very nice, it was very clean and the bed was comfy. The breakfast was good. My only complaint was, we didn't use the hot tub because it looked like dirty bath water.

"Durango Delight!"

michaelrX4088CH, Fountain Hills, United States 12/09/2017

This facility was very good. Room was clean and well attended. The only down-side was the hotel's location from the Durango/Silverton train and Durango's "old town". However, an excellent trolley service runs every 20 minutes and there is a stop very close to the front entry of the hotel. Current cost is $1 pp or 50 cents pp for Seniors.

"Surprisingly Nice"

W6810EXelizabethp, Kensington, United States 11/09/2017

Staff was super friendly. Nicely kept and very well run motel in a fun and funky town. My stay was less than 24 hours but I would have been happy to stay longer. I will stay here again on future visits to the area.

"Yesteryear Today"

User 04/09/2017

A slightly dated hotel that gives the impression of yesteryear from the roadside. Rooms are large with good sized bed, lounge chair with ottoman, and desk with chair. Larger than normal bar fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Breakfast is included in price of room, plus cookies are supplied 4pm daily. There is a enclosed swimming pool for guests. Lady at reception was very friendly and helpful with any questions one might have. This hotel has a no pet policy! As I have stated on another review! I do love animals, and own two dogs and two cats. But coming from Australia where health regulations are stricter concerning animals and food. It was good to know that one does not have to share a eating area with animals. So if anyone with concerns about health issues, allergies and so on, this hotel will be a good choice.

"Nice, quaint hotel"

T-Rex67, Metro Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota 01/09/2017

We enjoyed our stay at Best Western Mountain Shadows in Durango. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The internet is a bit slow and parking can sometimes be a hassle, but overall we were very happy with our decision to stay here. The breakfast was pleasant with quite a few choices every day, including green chile from Durango Diner (our favorite!!). We would definitely stay here again for future trips to Durango.

"Moab stay"

Randall R, Hale Center, Tx, United States 01/09/2017

Very nice hotel - quiet and well maintained. Would stay at this hotel again. Located in the middle of Moab and close to shopping and going to Arches National Park. This hotel does seem to host tour buses, but that wasn't a problem.

"Hospitable and experienced staff"

User 30/08/2017

Enjoyed a speedy check in, complete with dining recommendations (that proved excellent). Wonderful, quiet room provided us with a solid night's sleep. Excellent hot breakfast, complete with chocolate chips for waffles, to the delight of my son. Overall an excellent experience and a great value for the money.

"Highly recommended"

joanbB5847UB, Payson, United States 29/08/2017

Great people, clean rooms, delicious breakfast (go for the green chili sauce on your eggs.) It's easy and inexpensive to ride the trolley bus into the downtown area. We keep going back because it's a great town and a wonderful hotel to use as your home base while in Durango.

"A place to sleep"

castaicresident, Castaic, CA 28/08/2017

This hotel looked good in the pictures but doesn't live up to them in real life. As with most hotels, they made a point of having us sign an agreement that we would not smoke in the room, with a heavy fine if you do. The minute we walked into our assigned room, the smell of smoke hit us in the face. After we complained, they moved us to a non-smoking room. The room we finally got was okay, though it was small and still smelled funky. I missed the little amenities, such as a dish to put the bar of soap by the sink instead of just laying it on the counter, or the clothesline to hang your wet bathing suit on. Speaking of bathing suits, they have this bubble dome that covers the pool and spa but there was a crack in the dome. It was very warm inside the dome, and the spa's jets and timer did not work. I gave it 3 stars only because of two things: the helpful and friendly staff, and the above average breakfast because of their do-it-yourself breakfast burritos, with green chili from the Durango Diner. It really should have been 2 stars. We were glad to get out of there. It's adequate for spending the night, no more.

"Very, very nice"

David K, Prescott, Arizona 22/08/2017

Since we haven't stayed in Durango previously, we looked at ratings and prices as most do. We picked this Best Western and even thought it was older we would give it a chance. Very impressed. Rooms were large, very clean, and almost everything worked (except for a flickering bathroom light). Air Conditioner was in wall and was somewhat noisy. Breakfast was a good blend of hot and cold items and tasted good. Dustin checked us in and was super helpful. Close to some good restaurants and only about three miles to downtown. Would definitely stay there again.

"Road Trip 2017"

User 18/08/2017

After a long day of driving and sightseeing this was a great place to stay. The rooms were well appointed, beds were comfortable and surprisingly quiet. Build your own breakfast burritos were a pleasant change from the usual fare.

"A little over priced but a great place to stay."

Richard N, Aurora, Colorado 15/08/2017

Rooms are large and exceptionally clean. Staff is friendly. Breakfast is more than adequate. I have stayed here before and always look forward to retuning. I have no negative comments regarding this motel.

"vacation time"

Nancy S, mesa, United States 10/08/2017

I was ok with this hotel it is a bit older than some of the other BW we stayed at but it was clean and the staff was very nice we stayed one night and it was easy to get out of in the morning Durango is a busy town so we tried to stayed out side of town a ways

"Clean and inviting"

Tammy H, Colby, Kansas 07/08/2017

This was a great place to stay! It is located a block from the Trolley pick up point, so it made riding the Trolley an inviting prospect, rather than trying to drive to the downtown area and find very limited parking! We had reserved a 2 queen room, but were given a room with a king...SCORE! The owner was very friendly, the room was clean and they provided fresh cookies on check in...which my husband loved! We would definitely stay here again!

"Great value"

TXAnnie, Wimberley, TX 07/08/2017

This hotel was a nice surprise for value and comfort in a tourist town. Juanis and Camerorn worked diligently to help correct an E xpedia booking mistake and finally got us checked in. Loved the dome-covered pool and hot tub where we could soak tired bodies even though it was raining out. Beds were dream-comfy.

"Ok location, just old."

billyr246, Coeur D Alene, ID, United States 03/08/2017

The staff are excellent at helping you have a good travel experience. I had issues with the air conditioner and an odor of urine outside the room, so I was quickly moved to a different room. The rooms are remodeled, but you just can't hide "old".

"Always a pleasant stay!!"

timothymP2084ZC, Rio Rancho, United States 02/08/2017

Great place to stay in Durango! I highly suggest due to the convenience of the hotel and that fact that the pool and hot tub are easily accessible. Breakfast is decent and service is great! liked the king bed better then the double queens.

"Great Customer Service"

Shannon F, Maricopa, Arizona 01/08/2017

Best customer service I've had in a long time. So helpful, friendly and informative. They are willing to help you with directions and also give you information on what to do while staying in Durango. I would highly recommend Best Western in Durango.

"Very good value and location."

MWessman, Cleveland, Ohio 29/07/2017

This was a great value for the money. The pool/hot tub were VERY enjoyable. The green chili served at breakfast was delicious. Location was very convenient to restaurants and the trolley to historic Durango.

"A pleasant surprise!"

User 26/07/2017

A pleasant surprise! From outside the hotel looks like a typical hotel. On the inside it is warm, inviting, and very attractive. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and good.

"Walk off homer, in the clutch, for the win!"

michaeleV796LR, Northglenn 25/07/2017

I was very pleased when I found the BW Mountain Shadows in Durango, CO. I had to leave a competitor's motel because of issues with cleanliness and health concerns. BWMS was accommodating and understanding by providing superior (in comparison) lodging on short notice and at an affordable cost. BW Mountain Shadows staff and facility should be the standard of quality and excellence for all Best Western facilities.

"Great stay"

808grant, Dallas, Texas 25/07/2017

Great place to stay for the $! We would stay again. Everyone was very friendly and helpful...and the breakfast was great! Can't wait to get back! Great places to eat within walking distances. The only complaint I have is the parking...Small tight spaces.

"Excellent staff"

Z749CFkeithm, Pueblo West, United States 24/07/2017

The staff was very professional. Dustin was particularly helpful when we checked in. The hotel is not particularly attractive from the outside, but the room was clean and everything worked. The pool and hot tub are unique and very nice.

"Best Customer Service"

711kaitlinb, St. Cloud, United States 24/07/2017

The staff at this location exceeded my expectations 100%. I messed up my reservation and showed up a day early. The staff did everything they could in order to get me a discounted rate, since I bid for a rate on, and I didn't even have to ask - they just did it. The staff was super approachable, professional, and very understanding with my mistake. I have never had better customer service. The room was spacious. The only slight concern I had was that the bed wasn't super comfortable. Other than that, this location gets an A+ from me.

"Durango Stay"

237WV, Omaha, Nebraska 20/07/2017

Great location along Main Street especially with a trolley stop a block away. Makes downtown access very convenient. Parking is a bit tight for a large truck. All employees at the front desk were helpful and knowledge about the area.

"Nice Hotel"

Delisa C, Las Vegas Nv 20/07/2017

The rooms are large and have a convenient bathroom set up. Bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was hot and had a good variety. We were able to walk to about three restaurants, a bbq place, mexican and pizza.

"Clean, Friendly, Retro"

Julie M, Chicago 18/07/2017

The staff here are truly lovely and helpful. We were surprised to find our room was upgraded to a suite, which was more than enough room for us on our 3 night stay. The hotel is retro style- the doors all face outdoors toward the pool area. It reminded me of the hotels we stayed in when I was little. That being said the rooms are updated and clean. A warning- there's no elevator so if you have mobility issues request a main floor room. (Be prepared to schlep luggage! Good cardio! ;) ) The breakfast is delicious and offers a nice variety- try the Green Chili! And the coffee is excellent. The pool is large and the glass dome is really neat. We really enjoyed our stay!

"Great customer service, very clean"

Meredith A, Fort Worth, Texas 15/07/2017

We stopped for a quick overnight and this was a pleasant surprise. The customer service at check in and beyond was fantastic. They were very friendly and helpful with questions about the area. Our room was very clean and crisp. The toiletries were nice (there were even make up remover wipes, small thing, I know but very thoughtful). Location is moments away from downtown Durango. Mount Animas trail is literally around the corner. There is an indoor pool on property and a park a block away. There is also easy access to the river trail.

"Best one yet"

Danielle C, Mechanicville 14/07/2017

The front desk staff was very welcoming and patient with a great personalities. They were young and that was even more impressive. The pool from the road is what caught out eye. IT was domed yet still outside with a great big hot tub! WE asked for a room next to pool and that is exactly what they gave us. The free hot breakfast was great! A big variety of foods to choose from hot and cold. PLUS the staff from the kitchen was extremely sweet. She gave us some tips on ideas on what to do in the area. Had to leave her a TIP!!!

"Best Best Western in Colorado"

rickcC1737IS, Cheyenne, Wyoming 13/07/2017

The check in was quick and friendly. The young man was knowledgeable of town and shared is knowledge. The room was very clean and sight full. The pool and hot tub were very clean and pool area well maintained.

"Great service at this hotel"

rkunic, Aurora, Colorado 11/07/2017

The staff of this hotel made everything very easy from checking in, taking care of minor maintenance issues, and the check out. The rooms were very spacious and also had comfortable beds making it difficult to wake up in the morning. Will plan on going back here come next visit to Durango in the spring.

"Decent hotel for vacation"

Joann L, texas, United States 10/07/2017

We have 4 kids and are always looking for spacious hotels with decent pools and a good breakfast. While this hotel is definitely a no frills hotel, they provide a great pool and breakfast and had a room to accommodate us. We were not overly interested in a spectacular room because we were only basically there to sleep.. you do not go to Durango to stay inside! The main thing I experienced was great service. We had a kid get sick in the middle of the night and they were quickly there with new linens. The next day someone from housekeeping, named Angie left us a personal note hoping our child was better and extra linens just in case. We appreciate customer service! Thank you Angie!

"Large, clean rooms and very friendly staff!"

ElaineB6509, Coopersburg 10/07/2017

We recently stayed at this hotel and had a very pleasant stay. The front desk staff was extremely friendly , courteous and accommodating. Our room was very large and well appointed. Very helpful with directions and resturant recommendations . Breakfast was adequate and fresh. Big pool that was very refreshing.

"Good value "

K C, VA 10/07/2017

Good clean hotel for the value. Nicely remodeled rooms everything was clean and simple. The breakfast was good with several options and the staff friendly and helpful. It was great for us for an over night stop.

"Nice place to stay"

laurautahgirl, Syracuse, Utah 06/07/2017

The room was clean, quiet, easy access. They have a wonderful hot breakfast, and warm cookies in the afternoon. The air conditioning worked. The shower worked well. The bed was very comfortable. I did have trouble with the lamp on one side of the bed and therefore could not charge my phone by the bed. We only stayed two nights, so it wasn't a big deal (just a little inconvenient).

"Excellent experience staying there"

manuelcI7250KT, Carol Stream, United States 06/07/2017

After traveling all over the country for two weeks, and stay one night in this place, we'll never going to satay in motel 6 ever again. The service and the rooms were incredible, for an affordable price.

Dennis G, Moline, Illinois 06/07/2017

The staff were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast area was kept clean and well stocked. We were made to feel welcome and at home for the week we were there. We would recommend the Best Western Mountain Shadows in Durango to anyone coming to Durango. Durango has a great bike/walking trail along the river, great white water rafting, the train ride and many other options for families to enjoy.

"not so many bells & whistles"

User 05/07/2017

We stayed 2 nights to go to Mesa Verde and this hotel promised a heated indoor pool. It was not very warm. We choose this hotel BECAUSE of the adverised heated pool. The room was clean but beds uncomfortable and loud AC unit that went off and on every 20 minutes. We had to leave a fan running instead to sleep. The breakfast food was typical, nothing fancy and the paper plates seemed wasteful. Nice staff in the breakfast room.

"Pay a few $ more elsewhere"

marilb607, Fort Collins, Colorado 27/06/2017

I felt the room was not clean. Very thin towels, took 2 just to dry off. Ineffective air condition. Outside temp was over 90 and could not get room cool. Very marginal breakfast. Next time I'll pay a couple dollars extra and get a better class hotel!

"Great pool and good rooms"

JKDKR, Albuquerque, New Mexico 26/06/2017

Rooms were fine for a hotel! Pool was great and staff was friendly and helpful! Only problems were low-flow toilets and the air conditioner blows directly into curtains when they are closed unless you try to mess with them to "prop" them up! Otherwise, was a good comfortable stay

"Great place to stay!"

User 24/06/2017

Arrived late in the evening and was greeted by a welcoming staff. Offered fresh baked cookies on arrival and told of the various restaurants in the area offering dinner deliver options, which we took advantage of. Rooms were clean with comfortable beds. My grandsons enjoyed the pool after our day at Mesa Verde. We had the opportunity to take advantage of the offered breakfast. Helps with the cost of our road trip.

"Nice room, good breakfast"

Duane E, Whitney, Nebraska, United States 20/06/2017

We stayed here for 2 nights on June 11 and 12th. Rooms clean, comfortable beds, great breakfast with many options! only problem, i reserved rooms a week in advance, when checking out they charged more for 2nd night ( a Monday) than was charged for Sunday night. I called when home and they said charge more when motel filling up. Did i only reserve rooms, not a guaranteed price? Would be first time for that for us. I think i little comp would be nice, but ... was a nice place. Would recommend it and would stay again, but be sure in advance that prices guarateed!

"Nice Place"

User 16/06/2017

We stayed here as a family of 4 for just one night. We were too busy to enjoy the pool but it looked nice. The front desk was courteous on check in and wi fi was free and easy. The beds were comfy and room was clean. The breakfast was very busy but the girl working the area did a great job keeping it stocked. The green chili was great in a breakfast burrito and the kids loved the waffles. The location was great for us because we were visiting Purgatory and this hotel is on the north end of town.

"Great Customer Service & Clean Rooms"

carrielbalir, Denver, Colorado 13/06/2017

The hotel staff is extremely friendly and goes above and beyond to ensure all of your needs are met. The room was very clean and the location was great. We could walk to the grocery, liquor store, restaurants, etc.

"Good hotel, Amazing staff"

Julia S, Greeley, Colorado 12/06/2017

We just returned from a stay 2 night stay at this hotel, and honestly won't hesitate to return. The hotel is ok, larger room than we expected, so we were pleasantly surprised, the pool was nicely heated, but what really made our stay special was the check in with Dustin. He really goes out of his way to make you comfortable in his town, and he gave us fantastic recommendations on kid friendly activities and where to eat. If I could just rate him he would get a 5 star and the hotel would get a solid 3.5 as it is a bit dated, but improvements have been made in some areas. It has a great location and we can't wait to return.

"It's worth paying more to stay in a better place."

CRKirkpatrick, Albuquerque, New Mexico 12/06/2017

Musty rooms, poor quality breakfast foods, poor value for the money. Our room was dark. Do not let them place you in a room under the stairwell. Would not stay there again, or recommend it to friends. Housekeeping staff, very pleasant.

"Large room, very modern and clean"

987theresav, Lakewood, CO, United States 12/06/2017

Clean room and very large. Modern bathroom and in great condition. Nice pool also. Room was very quiet. We were able to park right outside of our room. Just a great experience. Very happy with out choice to stay at this motel. Best Western has great standards

"Mountain Shadows"

dougladlowellr, Phoenix, Arizona 12/06/2017

Stayed here numerous times with friends on motorcycle trips. Always a good time, The pool area is well maintained and covered to allow some pool time on cooler days. The scenery around the area is fantastic. Even saw a bear walking down the street later in the evening after returning to the hotel on the town trolley transportation.

"BEST COFFEE clean helpful"

O117VQphillips, Estes Park, Colorado 08/06/2017

The staff helpful steering is to great food locations. The rooms inside were very clean although the outside needed cleaning. At breakfast the food was fine but the coffee was the BEST I ever had in any hotel in America

"great location and comfy bed"

202685t, Kingman, Arizona 03/06/2017

This is great place to stay. We stay here every year for the iron horse bike race. The bed is comfy and so are the pillows. The breakfast is decent! I only wish the room was a little darker. I love the old dome pool too!

Andy J, Leyburn, United Kingdom 31/05/2017

We stayed here for one night between Mesa Verde and the Colorado mountains. It was fine, but the tone of the place was lowered a bit by having two trucks parked right outside our room. Maybe I'm a snob? The breakfast area was too small but having a pool was a plus. Cookies available at reception. Because this is right at the top end of town, we left without really seeing Durango at all unfortunately.

nickmZ8389AE, De Beque, United States 29/05/2017

Nice and comfortable place to stay. The bed was very comfortable. Very quiet. But parking is at a premium when the motel is full. The pool area was nice and clean. The motel is to get in and out of. We would stay there again. The staff was very accommodating and helpful.

"Great room"

Jerry P, Albuquerque, United States 28/05/2017

Clean, efficient and functional room/motel for the purpose of sleep and cleaning up. This motel has an attentive friendly staff, what more can you ask for....The location is on the far north part of town yet close enough to anything you care to do while in town. Nights are very quiet.

D B, Bradenton, Florida 27/05/2017

Only negative is size of breakfast area. Staff very helpful and friendly. Rooms have been remodeled. Bed was very comfortable. Dustin, office manager came to our room first night to try and fix volume on TV, didn't work. Next morning new TV installed. Great customer service.

"No issues"

GenevieveMorris86, Masterton, New Zealand 26/05/2017

We stayed here one night after a visit to mesa verde and before our steam train ride. Check in was easy and staff were helpful and nice. They offered cookies tea coffee and homemade lemonade on check in, this was a nice touch. Room was clean and seemed to be fairly recently renovated. We didn't use the pool but it looked nice. There are also a good selection of restaurants within walking distance. Only two tiny issues, the pillows were very uncomfortable and to large and there is only a coffeemaker in the room and if you try to make hot water for tea it has a mild coffee taste. All in all we would be happy to stay here again.

"Fantastic 3 nights!"

Patti202, Littleton, Colorado 21/05/2017

We loved staying here! The rooms were clean, the breakfast was filling and the cookies they served in the evenings topped it all off! We spent 3 nights here, and even used the washer and dryer during our stay. The front desk manager, Dustin, was so helpful with all of our questions, and he was very helpful on leading us in the right direction for dinner and evening walks. We would definitely stay again.

James W, Luling Texas 18/05/2017

Everything was great, just wish there had been more breakfast choices. Staff was very helpful, rooms were nice and location was ok, we spent two nights here and were pleased with everything, didn't use pool or jacuzzi.

"Fresh baked cookies!"

S00ziI, Albuquerque, New Mexico 17/05/2017

We only were staying one night and we picked a great place for the money. The front desk people were very nice and the freshly baked cookies made my day. It was close enough to walk to dinner at Zia Taqueria, which was very tasty and reasonably priced. Definitely would stay here again!

"A night in Durango"

Richard-Martha, Lafayette, Colorado 17/05/2017

My wife and I were recently seeing the sights in Durango and stayed at Best Western Mountain Shadows. It is a very nice property, clean and nicely furnished. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were happy to guide us to some excellent restaurants, which we appreciated. Breakfast was free, hot and had GF options. The swimming pool was in the middle of the parking lot which was inconvenient to seniors.

"Nice Place, Great Staff"

anthonyfJ6958VT, Avon, United States 14/05/2017

Very convenient location, well kept, very attentive and helpfull staff. I needed a charger for my Macbook computer and did not think I could get one. Drew found the local Apple retailer and called to make sure they were open and had the charger. I picked it up a hour later and was back in business. Great staff and very helpfull with directions and suggestions of things to do!!!

"Best service and Economical!"

Bankslover, virginia 13/05/2017

We stayed at this hotel two weeks ago back in late April. We were on our way to Mesa Verde, CO. The hotel is fine, we stayed in an efficiency with basic rooms and baseboard heating. What grabbed our attention was the service at the front desk. Everyone was so friendly and the morning we checked out, Jessica at the front desk went over and above her duties to give us information on Mesa Verde. She printed out directions for us and gave us a thorough forecast on the weather for the day. She is the friendliest person and I wanted to mention her and give her credit for everything she did. Thank you, Jessica!

"Good value!!"

Denning J, Ashland, United States 11/05/2017

Quality room for the price, short on charm, long on value. Hard to beat this motel in an expensive town where you need reservations in advance. Breakfast was adequate with good coffee and good chili. Everybody very pleasant and tried hard.

"Mountain shadows"

Knob5, Phoenix, Arizona 11/05/2017

Nice hotel, good location, friendly staff and great price. The staff was very friendly and gave us many options of what to do and where to eat which we appreciated. We were only going to stay one night but Durango was fun and our room was nice and comfy that we decided to book for another night. The swimming pool was also an added fun bonus.

"Loved our stay here."

Larry R, Arapaho 10/05/2017

Our check in with Dustin was great he is so full of information and very helpful. We were up graded with our BW membership and really liked our room. The location was great, plenty of places to walk to eat and a great grocery store across the street. The breakfast was very good and well stocked. Will stay here again soon.

"Mesa Verde visit"

wildcatllamas, Canon City 07/05/2017

Two friends and I stayed here on the 27th of April. I had requested a ground level quiet room and they had assigned me a room tucked back in the corner which blocked noise from the street. The room was very clean as was the bathroom. My friends thought the bed they slept in was perfect but mine was a little firmer than what I like. Check in was a breeze and everyone at the front desk both at check in and check out were wonderful. They all provided great info about the area and restaurants for dinner. The breakfast the next morning was excellent. Waffles, scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals - hot and cold, yogurts, juices and milk. They also had a local company's green chili. Very tasty over the eggs but for those with delicate taste buds or stomach sample before diving in. The only reason the score is a 4 rather than a 5 is my opinion on the bed.

"Don't judge this book by it's cover"

melissatX76DT, Mentmore, United States 07/05/2017

When I booked this place I solely made my decision on the pictures posted... Except for my bed on blocks; which I didn't notice until the next morning, Our stay was nice... I didn't care for the pool being in a separate structure although it was indoors. We could figure out the TV with a strange remote...

"Great stay"

kevinfF2943LE, Arvada, Colorado 03/05/2017

Everything with our stay at Mountain Shadows was great, the room was clean, the staff helped when we asked for it. Breakfast was wonderful, the Durango coffee was THE BEST! Front lobby , eating area was clean.

"Standard King Room"

jennifermC8561JO, Durango, United States 03/05/2017

Standard king was no frills, small TV, very basic amenities (actually, TV wasn't working). Pool and jacuzzi were a nice touch, we were he only ones using it during our stay, although water and surrounding dome windows could've been cleaner. We paid $90/night which was fair enough for the stay. Breakfast was included which was nice for a bite before heading out to explore.

A9073WGbethb, Albuquerque, New Mexico 01/05/2017

Bedding had stains all over it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was large and clean other than the bedding. The lobby was nice and had been upgraded. They should channel those resources toward the rooms though.

"Friendly and comofortable"

lucyao2017, Chugiak, United States 01/05/2017

We chose this hotel because we have stayed there before and enjoyed the hot tub and the pool. Rooms are nice sized and offer a microwave and frig. Nice and quiet at night. We stayed here for my daughter's graduation. Staff was friendly and helpful. Price was good for what you get.

"Excellent value in Durango"

Mezzofanti, Washington DC, District of Columbia 28/04/2017

Clean, comfortable, well located hotel with an excellent staff. Comfortable bed, very good hot breakfast, stable internet, reasonably priced guest laundry. The Animas City Mountain hiking trail is a short walk from the hotel as is the Animas River walking path. Zia Taqueria is a block away. The shuttle to downtown stops at the hotel. There is carwash across the street as well as a full grocery store.

"A real gem!"

T502KVerics, Albuquerque, United States 21/04/2017

Been visiting Durango for over 30 yrs, for some reason just found this place...had seen it, but thought it would be too expensive...WRONG! GREAT DEAL, GREAT STAFF, GREAT MOTEL! COOLEST POOL/HOT TUB I've ever seen...

"Great Service and Clean Room"

User 08/04/2017

I had a great stay at the Best Western. Dustin and other staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and plenty spacious. The location is a little off the downtown area, but is fairly easy to get to via car or bicycle via river trail. There are a couple brewery's and good food within walking distance.

"Exceptional Service and Great value"

TDLPortland_OR, Portland, OR 31/03/2017

We booked one night to go to meeting. Hotel staff was awesome. Front desk provided many ideas to do around the area that we decided to stay 2 more days. It was a great value to stay there and much better than I imagined from photos. We will be back and definitely stay here again. Oh and provided a hearty breakfast with local green chili and coffee .. I loved that extra touch.

"Awesome Staff, Fun Pool"

zacharyn393, Grand Junction, Colorado 28/03/2017

The staff were so great to us, as always. My oldest son is significantly handicapped and has many seizures a day. The staff, including Dustin, Dawn, and Klarrisa, were courteous, helpful, and caring. We always feel so welcome every time we stay. Our kids love the pool. Ask the front desk for "Scuba Steve" if you're taking the kids to the pool. They recently updated their lobby. It's very nice but the old (and yes, outdated) look just had a more homey feel. The breakfast area is a bit small and congested but if you get there at the right time the seating is comfy and nice. Breakfast is great as always. Best part of breakfast is the Green Chile from Durango Diner. Nice touch.

"Best stay on road trip"

wadebradley, Hailey, Idaho 24/03/2017

I stayed here one night on a week long road trip through the 4-corners area. From the service to the hotel its self, was our favorite. At check in, we got suggestions for some good restaurants. Very friendly and helpful. The pool is one of a kind. If you travel with kids, you know the pool is important. It's an indoor pool under a glass and steel structure. Pretty cool. Plus it was one of the cleaner pools we visited on our trip. The breakfast was very good. They actually had some green chili sauce. No other hotel had anything local, like this. Very good coffee, a must.

"First time in Durango, CO"

katfragua, Albuquerque, New Mexico 21/03/2017

We found this hotel online and we were very pleased with our stay. The staff was exceptionally nice and very helpful. The price was amazing for what you get, breakfast, pool, hot tub. fresh cookies and walking distance to a lot of great places to eat. We had a great stay and we will definitely book a room at this Best Western again. Very pleased with this hotel. Thank you very much BW staff for making our stay amazing. I will tell anyone who asks where we stayed and will recommend. Looking forward to our next visit.

marsha d, Cullman, Alabama 27/11/2016

The rooms were clean properly priced spacious but the best thing about the hotel were the people that worked there. They were informative they knew about places to go and things to do. We stayed during Thanksgiving and they helped us by showing us what restaurants would be open on that day. They offered up the information we didn't even have to ask.

"Durango Hotel"

User 22/11/2016

The receptionist did a really good job of letting us know of the best places to eat and some of the points of interest. We were also able to enjoy some fresh cookies in the afternoon and the breakfast was really good. Don't know where they got the green chili sauce for the eggs but I would love to have the recipe.

"Big rooms"

Linda M, Escondido, California 13/11/2016

We enjoyed this motel. The room was large, with a very comfortable bed. We really liked that the bathroom had two sinks. Good location--minutes from downtown. The breakfast was enjoyable (eggs, bacon, salsa), although the breakfast room was very cramped. Nice indoor pool with a pretty view of the mountains through the clear roof.

"Mountain Shadows as expected."

19Lester66, Sandy, Utah 06/11/2016

Everything was as expected. I stayed at several Best Westerns while I was the State of Utah's Communication Specialist III. This hotel was just as expected by being clean, comfortable, and had a friendly staff. It is at about the opposite end of town from the Silverton Train Depot, but it is a small town. It is also very close to the Green Telluride BC. I recommend this hotel because of all of the above comments, and the price was right!

"Great place!"

travelingbytwo, Bear Valley, California 27/10/2016

We were 3 minutes from where we needed to be. Extremely friendly staff in office. Super comfy bed which we greatly appreciated. Clean and tidy room every day was wonderful - we felt spoiled! We would definitely come back! Room 230 upstairs - nice & quiet, good view too!

"Great getaway or just a room for the night."

Liz H, Ft Worth, United States 25/10/2016

It's an older Motel but well maintained & updated. It's close enough to walk, or grab the trolley to Historic downtown Durango. I noticed how folks were working hard to make travelers stay away from home comfortable. Good breakfast buffet.

"Good Value for Price"

Deborah L, Rutledge 24/10/2016

The hotel was fine for the price in the area. The employees were very nice and the breakfast was good. The location was close enough to everything. We would stay here again in the future in ever in the area.

"Great Hotel"

Rachelle M, Tyler, Texas 19/10/2016

Easy to find right off the highway... Surrounded by approximately 100 restaurants... Great hot tub and pool and Lounge areas fast Wi-Fi.. newly renovated and it looks spectacular.. our room was newly renovated as well{ room 102 }.. a very spacious room with plenty of storage area, a better than average Mini Fridge ,Big microwave, and a separate toilet and bath area... the reception area and breakfast area is one of the prettiest I've ever seen ... you won't be disappointed if you stay at this hotel it is top notch... the customer service is also 2nd to none ...I highly recommend it

"Basic Comfort on the Outskirts of Downtown"

ndser, Vancouver, B.C. 19/10/2016

We stayed at the Best Western Mountain Shadows in Durango, Colorado, for 1-night in late Sep ($132). It is located on the north end of Main Street, a 5-min drive to Durango's historic downtown core. It is a 2-storey, outside room-entry building with a typical horseshoe layout that encloses the parking lot and a geodesic dome housing the swimming pool and jacuzzi (the pool looked fine, but the jacuzzi was dirty). Our double queen room was typical of the chain, nicely furnished with marble-topped end table and chest of drawers, desk/chair, mini-fridge, microwave, etc. The vanity/sink and clothes closet were at the far end of the room, next to the small bathroom with bath/shower. The room showed its age, but was comfortable. The hotel was within walking distance to the Durango Brew Pub; otherwise, there are a plethora of restaurants and pubs a short drive downtown. The hot breakfast was good, but no fresh fruit. If you are planning a trip to Durango in the fall, you should be aware that the town is very busy with sports tournaments and tourists in town to see the fall colours and ride the Durango-Silverton railway. Reservations are recommended.

Jerry P, Albuquerque, United States 17/10/2016

Excellent beds, clean, practical, efficient and excellent friendly staff willing to help. The proximity to downtown Durango is just right, out of the center but close enough for a five minute foray to get back to the center or a good jump to head North out of town.

"Just perfect!"

User 14/10/2016

My son and i stayed here for four nights while vacationing in Durango and it was just perfect. The staff was friendly and always willing to assist. The room was extremely clean and spacious. Our rugs were still wet when we arrived as they were just cleaned! The breakfast was pretty decent and the cook was at every morning greeting patrons and replenishing the food. The cookies were a huge plus for my son, and momma too. I would definitely stay here again the next time we vacation in Durango.

"Loved the indoor pool & Jacuzzi"

JanetPinetop_AZ, Pinetop, AZ 13/10/2016

The hotel is about 5-8 minutes from the Durango Train Station. There is a trolly that stops by the hotel but it doesn't run on Sunday's. The rooms are average but comfortable and clean. The indoor pool is heated and big and the Jacuzzi is a warm 104 and big. Loved it!!! They serve a hot breakfast each morning, eggs, bacon, toast, pastries but I didn't care for it.

"The new upgrades were a pleasant surprise"

Videoslydia, Broomfield, Colorado 13/10/2016

We have stayed many times at Best Western Mountain Shadows while visiting my Daughter at Fort Lewis College. We love the value and size of the rooms. Our room was recently renovated and included beautiful new counter tops and shower. We were pleased with the hotel prior to the renovation, but were pleasantly surprised with the new decor, both in the room and the breakfast area. The location is an easy drive to campus and close proximity to City Market. We prefer the quiet location to the early morning train whistle of downtown.

"Pleasant hotel stay"

Mike S, Layton, Utah 11/10/2016

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights since were are BW Rewards Members. We picked this BW despite a couple of others in the area. We were happy with the room, but the location was in a corner and we had a brick wall to look at from our window. This wasn't a show stopper as the room was spacious and updated. The pool and hot tub were in a separate glass domed facility, a cool walk from the room on a nice Fall day, but a nice glass enclosed facility with lots of sunshine coming through. The breakfast was good, lots of goodies and spacious seating. The staff was great and helpful. The drive into town was a little longer than I had wanted, but not bad, just have to be patient in heavy traffic. I thought the price for the evenings was very reasonable for the tourist town. Because the hotel was filled both nights, parking was tight, so, if you stay out late at night you might not get a parking spot close to the room.

"Good Place to stay"

Linnie R R, Denver, Colorado 10/10/2016

The motel is easy to get to, has a nice pool and hot tub. The breakfast had many good choices plus fresh baked cookies in the pm. The manager is very helpful with realizing that I had grandchildren with me. He recommended the TV channel for kids, places to eat, gave me a map and marked it with places for kids. I really appreciated his suggestions. They even had water balls available in the pool area.

"Great Stay"

danielcM3159IY, Shreveport 05/10/2016

Hotel was clean and located where I wanted to be. Convenient for my wife and I. Staff was super and friendly, when we come back we will stay here again. Even though it is an older building, the updates and improvements made this a great stay.

"Good Hotel to stay a night in, in Durango"

SMH8418, Allen, Texas 02/10/2016

I spent a night here during a Motorcycle ride through Durango. They took me in as a last minute booking and were super-friendly. The room was good and I have no complaints in that regard. I thought it was just a little pricey all things considered. I left before they served their breakfast, so I did not get a sample of that. It is walking distance from a few restaurants, so that was a plus.

"One night stay for work"

User 28/09/2016

Room is very clean, did not smell any smokers...apparently there are some smoking rooms? Bed big and plush. TV not setup right. HD capability but signal coming in is not HD and video is zoomed in (top & bottom) are cut off. (did not call maintenance for help). AC works but loud, got good sleep after turning it off. Breakfast is above average. It is located off Main street but very little street noise. Skip the in-room coffee.

"Nice quiet stay"

Michelle M, Pasadena, Texas 25/09/2016

We stayed here for 3 nights in July while sightseeing. An older hotel with outside rooms, but clean and comfortable. The only complaint I would have is adequate parking. Pool area is pretty neat with it being in a glass roofed inside area.

"Great Place"

User 19/09/2016

Stayed here for 2 nights this past August is one of the spa rooms. Room was clean with lots of space. Included a glass enclosed shower and a whirlpool bathtub. Staff was friendly and super knowledgeable. Had great recommendations for things to see and places to eat. Will stay here again next time we come through town.

"Quite Hotel, Accommodating Staff"

User 10/09/2016

The hotel although older has been renovated. The room was quiet and has individual control for air conditioning unit located away from the bed so the noise and moving air isn't blowing on you all night like some. The shower, tub and bathroom were much cleaner than many. The room was clean with new granite counter tops. The mattress could be updated but it was ok for a few nights stay. This was a perfect sleping spot as we did not spend much time in the room. Breakfast was adequate, although nothing special. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable.

"Durango Silverton trip"

joemO767YO, Gilbert AZ 09/09/2016

This is a good hotel for the price. Room was recently remodeled, bathroom tub/shower like new, very clean bathroom and room. Didn't spend any time in the pool area as we were on the go all day. Standard breakfast, very clean eating area and staff was very friendly. Very short drive to historic downtown area where we found excellent restaurants.

"Bike Rally"

Luciano V, Rio Rancho, United States 05/09/2016

We always stay at this hotel when we come for the bike rally, however, the rates are always hiked up during this time and it tends to get expensive. Although the Continental breakfast was good, I we would have liked to have had something different on each day. We had scrambled eggs and bacon as our choices. No hard boiled eggs this time.

"Great staff & comfortable rooms"

Heather_Geo, Colorado Springs, Colorado 03/09/2016

This was a great property for Best Western! My husband was disappointed I had booked at this location instead of a BW property closer to the middle of town; but we experienced great service from their staff in more ways than one! We asked for help as soon as we got to our room, because we couldn't figure out why one of the bedside lamps wouldn't turn on; then realized it was plugged into light socket that connected to switch just inside the door! We felt foolish, but grateful for their speed in attending to our question! We only stayed one night; it was quiet & restful in the room; bed was comfortable; we had great wifi service. We used the restaurant magazine guide to help us find a great restaurant in town. In the morning, we really enjoyed the hot breakfast. I thought I had checked for all my belongings; but when we got home, I realized I had left my Nike sneakers in the room. I was pleasantly surprised when I called the next day to find that the shoes had indeed been turned in by "Housekeeper Nancy" to the front desk! I gave them my credit card info so they could get them shipped back to me; and they arrived within three days! Great service & integrity by their staff!

"We enjoyed our stay"

dvdclrsn, Manhattan, Kansas 01/09/2016

Our family stayed here on vacation. The desk staff was really helpful. We stayed in their suite which was spotless. The pool was cool and clean. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet. We will stay here again if we are in Durango.

"Road trip"

June K, Smithville, Tennessee 01/09/2016

Nice hotel with good breakfast. Not to close to town but quiet...staff was helpful and nice.. Road tripping from Tn to Western USA. It was a nice place but hot water didn't work to well. Not big on cold shower but we made it... Also could see outside beside the window air conditioner..

"Family Vacation Road Trip"

User 25/08/2016

Out experience here was a good one. We stayed two nights. I'm not sure if there were bigger rooms that were booked, but our family of 5 got a double queen room and had a roll away bed. Totally not enough room with the extra bed. The extra sink in the bathroom was broken, but we made them aware of it. There was another sink so it wasn't a big deal. I wish I could remember the name of the gentleman that checked up in. He was so nice and helpful and full of information about the area. The rooms were clean, but could use a modern update. Breakfast was good. The pool was cold, but so was the air when we were there. The hot tub was great! I liked the fact that the pool and hot tub were in their own little area in the middle of everything. The only thing that really was awful was the fact that people would come out of their rooms below us and smoke outside of their rooms. When we opened our door to go to breakfast our room would fill with smoke and smelled like a smoking room. There needs to be a rule about that. That is what will keep us from not staying there again. (the rooms are all outdoor).

"Picture deceiving"

NancyW889, Martinsburg, West Virginia 24/08/2016

My family and I spent 4 nights here while we visited family nearby. The photos I saw online at their website were very nice. Everything looked fresh, clean and new. The rooms were beautifully displayed and the pool area was lovely. Because my daughter and her husband were celebrating their first anniversary, I reserved the "suite" hoping it would be extra nice and large. What we found, instead, was an at-best average motel room with a pool area that could use a fresh coat of paint. The suite was slightly larger than our regular King-bed room, and didn't provide any "perks" in appearance or extras. In fact, you had to duck and step down to enter the room. On the good side, the staff was very nice and helpful. The motel is a safe, fairly clean place with a basic breakfast provided.

"Clean and comfortable"

User 22/08/2016

Great value and one of the best places to stay in Durango. Fresh hot cookies at check-in and huge breakfast in the morning. The rooms are well appointed and the beds are clean and comfortable. Justin, who is the most helpful and friendly front desk person I've ever met, will ensure you have everything you need for a perfect stay!

"old - needs updated for the price we paid"

Allen S, vinita okla, United States 18/08/2016

will not stay there if we decide to go back , other hotels provide the same aminities for a lot less and locations are as good we felt. By staying only at best western we would get better rates by the coupons we gained, we like best western very much but some are not worth the price for your name.

"Good value"

judyh481, Colorado Springs, Colorado 16/08/2016

We chose this hotel because we've always had a good experience with Best Western. We found it to be a good value--the decor was very nice, clean lines, modern looking and recently updated. The breakfast was the most you could expect with bacon, fresh waffles, eggs, a variety of breads and sweet rolls, fresh fruit, cereal and juice. It was excellent, and the dining room was large and well-decorated.

"Durango - motorcycyle vacation"

Mike G, Boerne, United States 15/08/2016

We enjoyed our stay at the Best Western -Durango. The rooms were clean and the staff was very helpful. I would recommend them anytime and I'll stay there when we go again. The location was very convenient to downtown and many places that we needed to be close to.

"Great Service & Friendly Staff"

User 12/08/2016

We had a WONDERFUL stay and the staff was amazingly friendly. The room was clean and the staff was always asking if there was anything we needed. We had trouble will Wifi and they were Jonny on the spot taking care of it immediately. A definate return local!!!

"A great hotel on the edge of town."

User 12/08/2016

We spent 2 nights here. Rooms comfy and although motel style in layout with parking outside your room, no disturbance from car noise. The pool is nice in a weatherproof bubble, as with all these things it looks a lot larger in the pictures !! Great customer service and a good choice at breakfast. A good stopover for the Durango Silverton Railway as only a couple of minutes drive away. You could hear the train whistle as it passed the hotel. Mesa Verde National Park not too far away either. Just up the road from the hotel is the Serious Texas Bbq, just a stroll up the street and perfect for dinner.

Betty M, Whitney, United States 07/08/2016

Nice comfortable clean friendly staff. Nice view of mountain. Good food for breakfast. Coffee was very good . .I would would recommend this to anyone. Close to lots of activities. Beautiful town and surroundings. Staff goes out of their way to help with anything.

"Another excellent Best Western"

Robert B, Urbandale, Iowa, United States 06/08/2016

This facility retains the Best Western standards for comfort, accessibility, breakfast. Excellent internet access. Good amenities along with quiet/clean unit. Personal items were soft and clean. Chair at work station is one I could not get to adjust for my short legs. But was comfortable anyway

Terri C, Tucson, Arizona 03/08/2016

Clean, well appointed rooms w/ nothing special breakfast (eggs, bacon, waffles, toast, bagels, pastry, cereal, juice & coffee). Very nice staff. My only disappointment was the location. 2-3 miles from town. Shuttle stop avail 5" from hotel w/ service every 20" till 10 p.

"Terrible place "

pilonfx, Orem, Utah 25/07/2016

This place contributes to the bad name for Best Western. It is a motel. It is old and dated. The rooms were not well-kept. Maintenance was an issue - our shower barely dripped water. One of our rooms had no toiletries. When we asked for some, all we got was bar soap - no shampoo, etc. The front desk was quite rude. Two people we interacted with at the front desk had a poor attitude. Another was nice, but incompetent. They charged us the wrong rate, then had a very difficult time correcting it. I'm sure there are much better places in Durango.

"Durango Downer"

susancY4805JP, Phoenix, Arizona 25/07/2016

Durango is such a cute little town nestled in the beauty of nature in Colorado. This Best Western property was an eye-sore for sure. It is beyond walking distance of downtown Durango and the proprietor is sure to warn you that the town shuts down by 9p.m. and there just might not be a parking space for you should you drive into town for dinner. I would stay at a nicer property even if farther outside of town since you have to drive in from this location.

"Nice accomodations"

kschwerin, Albuquerque, New Mexico 24/07/2016

The room was fairly ordinary, but comfortable. Check-in was quick and easy. The breakfast provided was very good. This motel is about two blocks from the 7-mile trail along the Animas River, which is easy walking and a very pretty walk. The motel is about two miles from downtown Durango, but that's not a problem if you have a car. In spite of the motel being on the main thoroughfare, the room was quiet.

"Road trip"

1CabanaBoy, Houston, Texas 21/07/2016

Check in was easy and the attendant was very helpful. Room was very clean and easily accessible on the first floor. The hotel has a covered indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub. Very nice breakfast available. Easy parking available. Hotel is on main Durango highway with easy in and out.

"Updated rooms"

User 14/07/2016

Stayed here for one night (July 4). The staff were very friendly (after figuring out a mix-up with my reservation) and offered advice on things to do. We trekked (by foot) to downtown Durango, not a quick walk (close to 3 miles) but not a really difficult walk either. Our room seemed to have been recently updated and was very comfortable.

"Satisfactory stay in this older motel style BW"

User 13/07/2016

No real complaints here, room was on the smaller side I think largely due to the age of the building, and this was evident in the noisier than average A/cond. But everything was clean and presentable, and the proprietor was very efficient and helpful despite it being V busy.

"Better than it looks"

User 13/07/2016

Upon driving into the parking lot, you think uh-oh this place ain't gonna cut it. It looks older and nothing special. However, the check in staff was very friendly and professional. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. They have flat screen tv, microwave, and mini fridge. No complaints.

"Great Launch Pad for Sights & 4th of July Festivities"

Rosario D, Cambridge, MA, United States 11/07/2016

We came to Durango for the 4th of July and spent 4 nights here as part of a 10-day vacation to Colorado. The beds were comfortable and the rooms, quiet. Breakfast had a variety of options. Coffee was better than that of two other places at which we stayed. Desk and cleaning staff were professional and courteous. Parking spaces are a bit tight but manageable. City Market is across the street in case you need beverages, snacks or sundries. Fourth of July Parade, concert and fireworks were pleasant and entertaining. Great launch pad for doing activities in Durango or taking day trips to Silverton, Four Corners or Mesa Verde National Park.

"Pleasant Stay"

PattiFireflies, Nacogdoches, Texas 09/07/2016

This place was clean, conveniently located, great breakfast, nice pool & hot tub, comfortable bed, lots of pillows, fridge, microwave, two sinks, one in the bathroom, one in the dressing area. It has a big screen TV, WiFi, pool towels, plenty of room towels, great desk staff.

User 05/07/2016

Hotel is located north of town and feels more residential. It is clean, friendly, and one of the best Durango has to offer. It is located within walking distance to many natural attractions, and only a short drive to the railroad and downtown. The pool is among the best. The facilities will make your trip restful and enjoyable.

Rod B, Kansas City, United States 05/07/2016

This is a older motel with average appearance and decor. The room was ok, and the bed/pillows were good. My only critizism, is the pricing. I understand the area is dictating price to some degree but for the age of the property it seems this motel operator is not missing out on making a buck.

"Staff and newly remodeled room make up for some older attributes."

ckc0leman, Colorado Springs, Colorado 01/07/2016

The front desk staff was wonderful at giving recommendations for local restaurants that the whole family would love. The pool was beautiful and easily accessible. The recent remodel has put a fresh face on an older hotel. We would come again!

"The staff tries really hard to make your stay a good one!"

TerrynJean_Quinn, Colorado Springs, Colorado 29/06/2016

The staff was pleasant and tried VERY hard to make our stay a pleasant one. There were a couple of problems though. First, it doesn't have anywhere near enough parking AND it seemed like a large number of really HUGE trucks didn't help matters. Also, this was the first time I have ever required more than one towel to dry off after a shower - the towel just didn't want to adsorb water. Finally, this was the first motel we have ever encountered whose rates vary according to how much demand there is for their rooms. On the plus side, the fact that their breakfast was both good and early was very helpful since it allowed us to be on our way very early in the morning.

"Durango Adventure"

User 27/06/2016

This is an older hotel but very clean and comfy. Personally i think all the hotels are a bit overpriced in Durango but we are Best Western rewards members so we try to stay at Best Western when ever we can. This room was a suite which we didn't need but that what was available. The place had a HUGE bathroom...a separate closet area with fridge and microwave and another area for desk and couch then around the corner for the bed. The tv was across the room and a little small for the distance from the bed but it worked fine. Nicely decorated. Comfy bed Breakfast was good and staff was nice. There was a step down into the room which was a little dangerous but not bad. i would stay here was in a quieter part of town but still close to the train depot,

"Great place for families"

Bonnie H, Morrison, Colorado 26/06/2016

Rooms (had 2 with 8 people) were updated with granite and beds were really comfy. Pool was removed so no noise distraction at all. Convenient and nice. Wish we had gotten in earlier. Breakfast was only problem - it was really good, but area to sit in was full a lot of the time so a little too small for Monday in peak season.

"Very nice!"

Carol R, Austin, Texas 25/06/2016

The location is nice, groceries and pizza and coffee and alcohol all in walking distance! Clean comfy rooms, updated...and very nice staff !!!! Quiet rooms, great pool and hot tub, comfy beds! Breakfast was adequate.

"Amazing staff"

User 24/06/2016

They have An amazing staff here. Super friendly, room was clean and ready. They made it very easy to want to stay here again! Pool was clean and stocked with towels. No complaints from us! Thank you Amber for being so great to work with.

"Almost Excellent"

Ronald A, Brooklyn, Iowa 22/06/2016

The B/W Mt. Shadow motel is in an excellent location north of Dwntown Durango on the road on the way north to Silverton and/or Ouray. The rooms & pool area & patio areas are very relaxing. What keeps me from saying this motel is an excellent location---the wifi was spotty at best(going off/on at random times.) Tip: just a few blocks north(walking distance) is the Serious Texas BBQ which has very reasonable BBQ choices and prices and very good - their own BBQ sauce and very nice patio seating.

pppowers, Snowflake, Arizona 20/06/2016

This was an average place to stay. Was friendly ad pretty clean easy check in and out was easy to find and the be breakfast was an average breakfast. Friendly staff. The friends we were with had problems with their bathroom they call for assistance and they never came and fixed the problem

AWWTG, Fort Collins, CO 18/06/2016

I stayed here with friends for four nights and the rooms worked out very well for us. The reception area had been recently remodeled and the breakfast area was nice. The counter space was a little small for everything that was offered for breakfast but they kept everything well stocked and the cookies in the afternoon were a nice treat. The rooms were clean and generally quiet though there was a little street noise which we noticed in the mornings. We liked having two sinks, a small refrigerator and microwave (though we didn't use the microwave). It is on the north side of town which has some advantages but might not be convenient if you plan to do a lot of shopping or walking in the city center. I would definitely stay here again!

"Clean, friendly place to stay"

Frank H, Sun City, Arizona 14/06/2016

Nice, clean, spacious room on the main north south route. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Hotel was fully booked the night we were there, but quiet and peaceful. The full breakfast was free and delicious.

"Excellent Stay"

Richard L, Tyler, United States 13/06/2016

We love everything about this hotel! It was so nice, even with construction going on...which will only make it better. We loved the pool and the hot tub, the convenience to area locations and restaurants. Just everything about this place met or exceeded my expectations. We would definitely stay here again. As a matter of fact, I wish we could just spend the summer here!

"Roomy, plush rooms!"

KKKKK2, Albuquerque, New Mexico 10/06/2016

This is one of the nicest hotels we've stayed in. There was still plenty of room even with the double Queen beds, and there were two sinks so no one was fighting over one (out of four people.) Great updates and looks fabulous! The pool and hot tub was fun, and the breakfast was really well done with lots of delicious options. Housekeeping service was very attentive and did exactly what we asked for. The only downside is it is rather noisy being close the main street, and motorcyclists would fire up the noisy Harleys at 7am. Not the hotels fault, tho!

"Great Stay!"

LAD62, Kansas 06/06/2016

I spent 4 nights at the BW Mountain Shadows. Check-in was a little awkward due to the office renovation but I think it was more inconvenient for the staff than myself! The newly renovated breakfast room was complete and very nice! They served a fine breakfast and local coffee which was delicious. The renovations of the office area were almost complete by the time I left. My room was spacious, well-laid out and very clean. The location was convenient for where I needed to be and it was easy to get in and out. The wi-fi was excellent during my stay as well.

"Ideal situation for touring"

Ernest R, Brighton, England, United Kingdom 06/06/2016

Arrived early but were allowed to deposit our luggage in allocated room.Staff most co-operative,Although the reception area being under refurbishment was a little disconcerting.Swimming pool was not really usable for us as it was right next to the road.Breakfast was adequate. Rooms were a little tired but Wi Fi good and beds comfortable.

"BW Mountain Shadows"

Sharon J, rio rancho, United States 06/06/2016

I enjoyed my stay the staff was great! The coffee was from Durango Coffee co. and it was the best & has to buy some. I would certainly stay at this hotel again. The Tv remote was weird and there was no TV guide but who stays in the room that much anyways.

"Nice rooms"

Lois B, SALT LAKE CITY, United States 01/06/2016

They are remolding and the rooms are nice. Breakfast area is excellent. we have stayed here 3 times. On our last trip we found the staff unfriendly. This was unusually for this hotel. Hopefully the staff can be more friendly and helpful.

"Best Western Durango"

Deno P, Reno, Nevada 01/06/2016

This Best Western is located at the north part of town. There are BW's closer to down town but this one is nice. The staff are very friendly. The food is typical for BW and the jacuzzi is nice. The spa furniture could use some updating but we didn't spend a lot of time outside the spa.

"Newly Remodeled"

Larry G, Hamilton, United States 31/05/2016

I've stayed in many Best Western's before. This one is one of the best ones I've been to. Location, hot tub/pool, everything, great. The breakfast I would give an 8 but I'm hard to please when it comes to food. Highly recommend this hotel. Reserve way ahead of your trip: FYI

"good value"

Robert D, El Paso, United States 28/05/2016

the only problem was with the TV. It was a digital TV flat screen and had HBO. However the signal to the TV was anaolog and a poor picture. why bother with a digital TV if you don't have a digital signal?

"A Nice Place"

Robert B, Taylorsville, United States 18/05/2016

This has always been a nice place to stay in Durango. It is up towards the north end of town. Right now, they are in the middle of a major "office renovation". The hotel staff is friendly. The rooms are nice. I like it at the north end of town. It is a little quieter in this area. I have stayed here for several years, and will continue to do so.

"my favorite place in Durango"

566babs, Evanston, Illinois 12/05/2016

Mountain Shadows has a good location: right on 550 and convenient to the Trolley. The pool is great, and they serve a nice continental breakfast. The price is always good. The new updates to the hotel are very nice.

"Great Best Western"

User 11/05/2016

A great Hotel. Friendly staff. Helpful at check in, and advice on travel and good restaurants near by. Wake up call on time. They did all the little things that add up to a fantastic vacation. Always stay with Best Western.

"Great motel for the value!"

User 06/05/2016

This is a classic roadside motel, with doors facing the parking lot. Made for easy loading and unloading from our van with a family of 4. It is a gem for its value. The pool is very nice and s great place to relax or swim! The room was clean, the food was fine, staff was very helpful and nice. Its not too far from attractions. Even saw elk across the street. Would stay again!

"Great value"

Videoslydia, Broomfield, Colorado 04/05/2016

This was our 4th stay a the Best Western Mountain Shadows and we will be back. Our daughter goes to school at Fort Lewis College so when we have to move her in or out of school Mountain Shadows is an affordable and convenient place for us to stay at. The pool area is nice too.

"Great Experience"

Timothy M, Canyon Lake, United States 01/05/2016

Everything met our expectations. Check in and check out were easy. Parking was easy. The room was nice and clean. Breakfast was yummy. The people were friendly. It was a great experience. We will stay there next visit.

"Stay somewhere ELSE!"

Becky R, Little Rock 29/04/2016

Although we knew that there was some remodeling going on, we thought from what we'd read recently that it was completed. Not so. Let's start with the room. Although some effort has been made to update, they have sorely missed the mark. We had two queen beds and one was SO close to the wall that NO ONE would be able to get off that side of the bed. The "chair" in the room is laughable. It is almost child-sized. The walls are paper thin. Our neighbors returned at midnight and stood outside talking for about 10 minutes, then about six went inside the room and "chatted" for over an hour. I was unfortunately part of their evening because I could hear EVERY word. Management can't be responsible I suppose. But then morning dawned and it was time for the breakfast. Since the lobby was closed, we ventured to the room designated as the "breakfast" room. There was seating for four people and all seats were occupied. We surveyed the offerings and made our selections to tote back to our room. COLD scrambled eggs and bacon; the usual yogurt and apples and oranges. I decided to toast a bagel and my husband chose toast. The attendant was refilling some of the empty items (like forks) and we pushed the breads down three or four times and waited patiently only to realize the toaster didn't work. He might have mentioned that or removed the broken toaster. The waffles and hot and cold cereals mentioned in their room description? Nope. Just the cold eggs (with shredded cheese as an add in) When we checked out and complained, our comments fell on deaf ears. Although the Mountain Shadows got OUR money, maybe we can save YOURS.

Bill P, Overland Park, Kansas 25/04/2016

The service received was above the norm. When the lobby and guest room for breakfast are remodeled, this place will be first class. Very accommodating services and the staff did there best to make our stay enjoyable.

"Nice Place"

Denise A, Forked River, United States 22/04/2016

Stayed 2 nights. Room was spacious, clean. Enjoyed the Pool and jacuzzi. Front desk folks were very friendly, accommodating and always available. The lobby is under construction but by no means did it interfere with our stay. The free breakfast was not the best, but it was free. We sat in the pool area to eat it because with the lobby construction, the breakfast was moved to a room next to the temporary lobby and there was only 2 tables. Would recommend.

"Great hotel friendly staff"

lgchavez, Bernalillo, New Mexico 08/04/2016

During our stay they were remodeling the lobby area so the check in & breakfast were held in rooms, being that the breakfast was served in a room it as a little tight in space but they made it work. The staff did apologize for the remodeling but it in no way bothered us or hindered our stay. I think once the remodel is done it's going to look FANTATSIC.

"Staff and accomodation great."

Clare Q, Bridgetown, Australia 05/04/2016

Even though they where renovation they made it as easy as possible. The breakfast was fabulous. The staff's experience helped with ideas, weather and anything else we wanted to know. They helped with maps and knew the area well and recommended places to eat.

Barbara R, Albuquerque, New Mexico 04/04/2016

Customer Service was great. The quality of the hotel was not worth the price. The initial smell of the room was really bad. We had to open the door and windows for about half an hour to air out the place. I understand that it had been renovated recently but it's hard to tell because it is an older hotel with new paint.

"Friendly staff"

RoadTripToSFO, New York City, New York 03/04/2016

I was a bit shocked when I arrived during a large bout of construction -- had I made a mistake booking this property? No. I still had a solid stay. You still receive a nice complimentary breakfast and get free Wi-Fi. My stay was hampered by a volatile and otherwise unpleasant guest, whom the staff handled admirably. I would also like to try the pool in its unique domed structure.

"Excellent Staff"

Rita R, Ohio, United States 30/03/2016

Staff was very friendly and helpful. We truly enjoyed the suite and roominess it gave us to spread out. Very comfortable beds. Staff was excellent with advice on local dining choices and activities to do. Truly enjoyed our stay here.

"Durango is beautiful!"

Mariah K, Denver, Colorado 27/03/2016

The stay over all was awesome! The room was nice and spatious, close to many food options for dinner, and the dome pool/hot tub was steamy like a sauna and so relaxing. The only suggestion I have is more vegan breakfast options. The only thing for vegans was bananas and apples. Usually when I stay with a Best Western there is at least potatoes to go along with the fruit. I am not sure how many vegans come through the hotel, but I know that they would all definitely appreciate more options.

"Very nice motel"

Jay J, Albuquerque, New Mexico 24/03/2016

This will be my choice next time in Durango. Stayed somewhere else for two days and then decided to stay a third day, and selected this place. Comfortable room and bed, quiet, and good hot breakfast. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. There is construction going on, didn't find it problematic and they seem to have some good work arounds.

"Nice Family Location"

Celeste K, littleton, United States 22/03/2016

Very nice rooms even though the lobby was under construction. They made it work with their set-up for breakfast. The pool and hot tub were very nice and open long hours. The staff was very knowledgeable and willing to help with all requests.

"Business/Pleasure Trip"

Melissa M, Tulsa, United States 14/03/2016

Very comfortable rooms. The walls have brick on both sides, so very quiet. I don't usually sleep well away from home, but that was not the case with this stay. Beds were very comfortable. The hot tub and pool were excellent, and clean. This isn't a five star hotel, but you definitely get what you pay for and more. The breakfast isn't the best, but provides enough variety that there is something for everyone.

"Good night stop"

MrmrEm01, London, United Kingdom 07/03/2016

Booked a couple of rooms with our group upon turning up in hope. Yes, hotel is under refurbishment. The office and breakfast rooms have been set up in bedrooms whilst the work continues. It is what it is, not a big deal as you can see the position they are in. Regardless of this, rooms are big, clean and comfortable. All have coffee making, showers, secure locks and good TV/wifi. Passing through Durango to ski, this was a good rest stop and we left refreshed. Recommend.

"Ski vacation accommodations"

We have stayed there before and will go back again. The location is great. The grocery store is very close as well as ski rental shops if needed. The hot tub and swimming pool are very nice. The breakfast was very good too. They were doing some renovations to the office and breakfast room, but the temporary sites were well organized and no problem for us at all. It is a good value!

"Hotel Stay"

ellensF8873FV, Pagosa Springs, Colorado 01/03/2016

Very friendly staff. Remodeling hotel. We were just going to enjoy a night. The hot tub was very nice. It was right on the main road so you could hear traffic. The bed was not really comfortable to me, but over all we had a nice time.

"Not worth saving a dollar"

Nicole B, United States 16/02/2016

We chose this room because we were on a budget and our experience with prior Best Western's has been decent. The place was under reconstruction and looked like it was in shambles. There was a make shift "office" based out of one of the hotel rooms. All of this could have been overlooked but the clerk who checked us in was a Nazi. He treated us like criminals because we had 4 adults and two children in our hotel room and then proceeded to charge extra for the adults than what we were told we would pay. The room was okay but the bathroom floor was filthy and the beds are horrible.

"Accommodating and clean"

KclRN, Albuquerque, New Mexico 12/02/2016

We visited Durango with friends during Snowdown. The hotel rooms were clean and spacious, we felt it was a good deal for the money we paid. We had to do late check in, and that went smoothly. All the hotel employees were polite and helpful during the booking and check in process. The hotel parking lot was kind of a mess as they are doing construction, but we were always able to find parking for the 3 days we were here. It was kind of nice to stay here during a busy weekend because it was much quieter than downtown Durango. If we were doing a similar trip we would definitely stay here again.

"Amazing Colorado"

"Nice hotel for the money"

Duane B, Longmont, United States 06/02/2016

This is great for business people!! The pool would be fun in the summer, a little cold in the winter, The staff is so helpful! I would definitely recommend this hotel for a cheap clean place to stay in Durango!

"Under construction and unsafe rooms"

Brianne B, Albuquerque, United States 23/01/2016

Would not recommend you stay at this hotel until they complete construction and make the rooms safe. The rooms were clean and the pool facility was fine. Overall, would not return for a stay at this hotel.

"Super nice place, friendly staff, very clean"

Hadley C, Flagler Beach, Florida 02/01/2016

There are many Holiday Inns or other hotels in Durango that may cost a LOT, but this hotel is probably the package deal because A.) it has the COOLEST pool, B.) It has more of what you need and more comfort for a better price, C.) The staff is very competent, and D.) Its location couldn't be better :) This is definitely a hotel I'll want to visit again!

"Mountain Shadows Best Western is Great!"

Thomas N, austin, United States 29/12/2015

Super value!! The location is close to everything. You can walk places or take the bus into downtown - 2 miles away. The staff is super friendly. The rooms are warm and comfy. The free breakfast was a nice starter. I loved coming off the slopes and hitting the hot tub. Even the pool felt nice. The crew did a good job cleaning off the 4 ft of snow we got in 4 days. The hot cookies were a nice treat too. I'll be back!

"Helpful, Welcoming Staff and Nice Locatioin"

Baycruisers, Richmond, Virginia 24/12/2015

I had reservations for BWMS for two nights during a solo photo trip. When a winter storm began to develop I headed for Durango earlier than expected and arrived at the hotel late morning. I asked if a room was available and was told that mine was ready and I could check in early. The woman who checked me in was very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, clean and well-furnished. The bed was comfortable and the wifi was strong. I had to do laundry and the laundry area was clean and the cost was minimal. Breakfast was a high point. Most hotel breakfasts are long on carbs and short on protein. BWMS served scrambled eggs, bacon, cereals, bagels and pastries, and excellent local coffee. The breakfast area itself was comfortable. Altogether, this was a good experience that began under trying circumstances. Thanks to the staff for making it a welcome refuge.

"Poloar Express"

Toni R, thoreau, United States 18/12/2015

Good, clean room!! Quite and friendly. Good breakfast. Excellent internet service. ** Except the neighbors up stairs have the "furniture" banging on wall late at night and early in morning. What a drag, especially when children are asking, "What is that noise???"

Thanks for staying with us. We are glad you liked your room and the breakfast.

"Worst Western Mountain Shady"

mrst156, Albuquerque, New Mexico 28/11/2015

If I could give it zero stars I would. And I promise every good review has got to be fake. The staff is very shady and there are freaks hanging out/smoking cigs in the parking lot for hours for no apparent reason--- (I don't want to know why.) The bathrooms on the second floor have a window that opens up to a dirt lot in the back, must be built up on a hill because people can see straight in and it seems very unsafe and easy to break into. Front desk guys give off a very weird vibe. The pool looked like fun but no way would I wear a swimsuit in front of the employees. Will not return!

"Nice comfy Hotel"

Joachim A, Deerfield Beach, United States 21/11/2015

Everybody was real nice and had a nice clean room. Check in staff was the best and that made me want to leave a good review. Definitely recommend. Good value when you get a breakfast too. We were just traveling through and saw this place had good reviews already.

"Traveling to Michigan from California"

Peggy H, Lapeer, Michigan 16/11/2015

Very clean and super friendly. Great breakfast. Only stayed one night due to scheduling, would love to return and explore the area. Very safe and quiet. Traveled through Wolf Creek pass on our way to Colorado Springs. Amazing drive.

"Very friendy & helpful"

John W, Bountiful, United States 16/11/2015

Mentioned to clerk why we were in the area, and received a brief explanation on the nice things we could visit and do while in town. We received some discount coupons, and recommendations on places to eat.

"Clean hotel with very friendly service"

Rachel M, Prescott, Arizona 09/11/2015

My husband and I recently celebrated our honeymoon in Colorado and stayed one night at the Best Western Mountain Shadows in Durango. Upon arrival Dustin at the front desk greeted us with such enthusiasm and knowledge about the unique town. He located everything we needed on a map of the town while also throwing in fun facts and historic landmarks to see while we were there. Our room was upgraded at no charge and had a view overlooking the town, a jetted bathtub and kitchenette. This hotel has excellent service and one of the best complementary breakfasts.

"Best pool/hot tub area and great breakfast"

User 02/11/2015

We liked to stay here because the pool was open later than other hotels and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast offered was a nice variety and good for families. It was near grocery and liquor stores, and just north of town closer to the ski resort than other hotels. Have stayed here several times and have never been disappointed.

"Nice hotel, but cold pool!"

Jill H, Lakewood, United States 26/10/2015

My Mother and I enjoyed our stay, but I continue to be disappointed in the temperature of the indoor pool. They claim it's kept at 80 degrees, but I couldn't even put my foot in! I swim all the time in various conditions, and this is much too cold for my taste, especially in cooler weather. Otherwise, the rooms are clean (albeit a bit too hot), breakfast is a real treat, and the hot tub is nice (and warm)!

"Perfect Motel for Family Trip"

TeresaupstateNY, upstate NY 23/10/2015

We loved this motel. First of all, Dustin (manager/owner) is such a knowledgeable source of historical and geographic information about his hometown. We really enjoyed our conversations with him, and learned a lot. The inn is walking distance to the Animas River trail, and there is a great hiking trail beginning two blocks up the hill, with a panoramic view of Durango. We saw a double rainbow when we reached the top. Our room was spacious enough for our family of four adults, and space for all of our luggage. It was spotlessly clean, and everything worked flawlessly. The beds were comfortable. I would have liked the pillow to be softer and less plump, but that's just me. The wifi was fast, and we were able to put juices and fruit in the fridge. When some rain showers came, we swam in the very clean pool, and then relaxed in the bubbly spa. We loved the Bucky Fuller-esque dome over the pool area, gave it sort of a retro vibe, and truly unique. Ask Dustin about it! The breakfast was abundant and very good. I especially liked the choices for the breakfast egg burritos. The green tomatillo salsa won my vote! The coffee was the best on our whole trip, and available all day and evening in the lobby. Whenever we return to Durango, this is where we'll stay.

"Warm welcome"

Brandon S, Fruita, United States 21/10/2015

I stay here often and this latest trip was as great as the rest. Staff is unequaled in courtesy, rooms always clean and fresh, breakfast always hot. Very accommodating motel staff with friendly suggestions for restaurants, hikes and local amusement. Can't go wrong here.

"Great Place To Stay"

Richard S, St. Louis 18/10/2015

We were in town for the Durango & Silverton train ride. Would have liked to stay closer to downtown but the rate (I was using BW Points) was better here. It was a really nice hotel with an easy drive to downtown and the train and other activities. Room was neat and clean and service was very good. The only negative was that as in many hotels the A/C unit blows air behind the window curtains and thus air circulation was weak. As with most older facilities the breakfast area was small but the food was good. Overall it very nice and would stay there again.

"Excellent mid-range motel, fantastic value"

Alex G, London, United Kingdom 16/10/2015

I stayed for 2 nights at the Best Western mountain shadows and was very impressed considering the price range. It is a kind of cross between your basic motel and something a little grander. The room was absolutely huge, with all the facilities you would expect in good working order. It was also very quiet and very clean - a very comfortable place to spend the night after long days exploring the area. The staff on check-in and check-out were very friendly and happy to recommend places to eat and give directions. The breakfast was quite extensive for a motel-style property and was pretty decent, with a good range of hot and cold options and drinks. There is also an indoor pool and hot-tub which myself and my Wife made use of which was a nice bonus. I would highly recommend the Best Western Mountain Shadows for those looking for a budget priced yet comfortable lodging in Durango.

Lisa M, Phoenix, Arizona 12/10/2015

I was really torn between saving a little money and booking something more historic in downtown Durango, but definitely made the right choice. Our room was big, very clean, with a great bathroom and the value was awesome. Despite being over the office and near the busy street, it was also very quiet. Also, the staff was really nice and helpful.

"Great Location"

"Colorado Vacation"

Nancy B, Cassville, United States 08/10/2015

This hotel is in a convenient location in the town of Durango with quick access to the beautiful river trail. The staff was great, the rooms were good for our week long stay. Hot breakfast every morning and delicious cookies, fruit infused waters and coffee every afternoon.

"Clean and okay location"

RamblingJoe51, Lorain, Ohio 05/10/2015

Clean room - comfortable bed. Do not like the small square pillows Best Western seems to be using these days. No elevator for second floor. Indoor pool but did not use it. Hot breakfast selection was good and probably available before the time they say it starts. (You may want to use the microwave to reheat your eggs and sausage. Eating area was clean. Try to get a room from 210 to 230 for a view to the mountains. No chairs on the balcony. You also want to have your curtains closed as anyone walking by can see in your room. All rooms have outside access.

"Great Place to stay while visiting Durango"

Doris K, San Diego, United States 05/10/2015

We had a fun time staying in Durango. The Best Western Mountain Shadows was a very good place to stay. Clean Rooms, very friendly staff, great breakfast, pool ,jacuzzy . Also we needed a non smoking room and a room where no pets have stayed in ( allergies ). We would definitely stay there again.

"Wow, I should have checked this place out sooner!"

frodo33, Albuquerque 03/10/2015

I stayed one night here and was very surprised at the hospitality, cleanliness, and comfort I experienced. It's hard to find a hotel in Durango that isn't outrageously priced. I have stayed numerous times at the Doubletree with my family but on this lone visit I was looking for more modest lodgings. I found it at this hotel. I was informed that the owner with his wife and their young children live here on the upper level. That fact implies to me they want to take good care of the place since this is their home. I slept in room 122 and found it very satisfying. I like it is a non-smoking hotel and therefore no tobacco nor any of that legalized marijuana that's sold in Colorado. I found the patrons to be somewhat older and quiet. I must admit I could hear the neighbors actually using the bathroom as if we were in the same room but everyone was so quiet otherwise that it really wasn't a big deal. I will most definitely stay here again. I think I will join the Best Western rewards program since my kid is at Fort Lewis College and I plan to visit her often.

User 30/09/2015

No better or worse than the cheaper chains. Seemed very dated with outside access to rooms, no interior hallways. Reminded me of the old motels we stayed in back in the '60's. Room was OK though not up to the standards that the price indicates. Was hoping for a better experience, our 30th, but we had a late afternoon arrival and very early departure so we didn't use or experience any the amenities this hotel offered.

"North End Gem"

Rockymundo, Salt Lake City 30/09/2015

This location is not downtown Durango, but it is close and gets you out of the hubbub and is only a quick few minutes north. The hotel was very friendly, Ellenor at the front desk was efficient and knowledgeable of Durango. The room was clean and quiet with parking right outside our door. A location that is well placed for the town.
