Just back from hotel no complaints easy check in friendly receptionist deal included afternoon tea which was fine although no scones with I thought was unusual in a AT room was fine usual teacoffee hot choc and biscuits king size bed and refurbished bathroom with toiletries and nice fluffy towels did not have dinner in hotel so cannot comment however the menu looked fine nice pleasant waitress at breakfast with fruit juice, cereal, porridge yogurts, fruit toast , muffins and then a cooked breakfast hubby thpught it was odd he only had half a slice of haggis on his plate all in all good value and would stay again

"Fanastic hotel"
siancbull90, 14 Avril 2022

Superb hotel with lovely facilities, great food and excellent staff. A lot of attention had been paid to make the room and hotel that bit special. Highly recommend. Wish we could have stayed longer. Will definitely be back.

"Short stopover"
S K, 30 Mars 2022

Two night stay, room was large, let down by poorly decorated bathroom, looked like painted by visually impaired "YTS" trainee with a 6" whitewash brush. Masking tape still on walls, large amount of paint on floor, (more than on wall?), painted rond pipes, over part of bath, inside of door frame missed. Warning sign, warning may take time for hot water!, was instantanious but boiling! Shower curtain ripped & hanging off. Complained, & were moved to another room (or would have been if they bothered to tell us!) when complained 2nd time they then told us we were to be moved to new room. Not told restaurant was closed. When brought to attention of manager at checkout they were quick to apologise & reduce bill, good location with parking.

"Stop Off"
johnhhall, 24 Février 2022

We have been to this hotel before, staff are friendly and helpful. Room are comfortable, clean and bathrooms modernized. WiFi connection was good, lifts to the floors, nice quiet garden and easy parking out front.

"Nice room"
John H, 12 Décembre 2021

A useful stopover hotel when driving up from England for a few days in Scotland. Friendly staff. Breakfast was exceptionally speedy and efficient (pre-ordered the previous evening). Extremely Covid-secure breakfast - no-one else nearby at all.

"Very convenient location and great staff"
francesmacl, 28 Novembre 2021

Comfortable room in an interesting historic hotel. Great location for the town - everywhere is in walking distance. Very friendly and helpful staff. Easy parking right outside hotel. Good selection of whiskey in the bar.

"Super"
kbtoors, 27 Novembre 2021

Great central venue just across from a very quiet railway station . Easy to have a wee wander round the town and find the local river walk to enjoy . The staff were on the ball and proved to be great ambassadors for the hotel .

"pleasant stay"
904vikki49, 29 Septembre 2021

The Station Hotel is close to the centre of Dumfries and is an old but comfortable building. The restaurant was clean and comfortable although the bin was full. the station is opposite but there was very little noise.

"Excellent Stay"
858gordona, 28 Septembre 2021

Stayed in hotel with friends on a golfing holiday. The hotel was excellent, room was very comfy and spacious with an excellent shower. The breakfast was top notch as was the burger the night before. The staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly James and Roger. Will definitely visit again and highly recommended.

"Excellent"
pnrwake, 28 Septembre 2021

Great room, very friendly and helpful staff, good location and good food. Breakfast service needs to be improved dramatically as staff don't seem to know what they are doing, otherwise everything was better than expected

"Disappointing"
HermioneJack, 16 Septembre 2021

Newly refurbished rooms but very worn bathrooms. We weren't told that the hotel restaurant would be closed during our stay and had great difficulty finding somewhere for dinner. Pre-booked breakfast not a problem as such but the service was chaotic and my Danish pastry didn't appear. The bar area was extremely scruffy. Overall very disappointing.

"The not so Best Western"
Fraserc278, 16 Septembre 2021

Stayed here whilst working in Dumfries. Hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. I was given a room on the third floor that had wallpaper peeling off the ceiling, very poor lighting and dated furnishings. The room was always hot with no way of controlling the temperature which meant leaving the window open, not ideal when the hotel is a stones throw away from the train station. Staff were friendly and food was ok but very average.and choices were always limited. I think the receptionist doubled up as the chef as we only ever seen 3 people working there. We were told they did not serve food on a Monday when we arrived. Really?

"Fair hotel but needs some updating"
Ian S, 15 Septembre 2021

The room was OK but not sufficient light to be able to read comfortably. En-suite very small with a tiny shower and very small sink. Some mould on the ceiling above the shower. Carpets threadbare on the stairs. Food and service good in the breakfast room. No food served on Sunday and Monday evenings which was unfortunately when I stayed.

"great location and nice staff, dreadful room"
veggiefox, 10 Septembre 2021

Staff were pleasant and it is only a few minutes walk from railway station but my room on the third floor ( with lift only going to the second) was hot and scruffy. Damaged chair, peeling wallpaper, a dribble of a shower in a slippery bath, poor electrics - not worth the money.

"Scotland trip"
MickyYorkshire, 07 Septembre 2021

We arrived at this hotel after staying at another lovely Best Western hotel in a different part of Scotland and our initial impression was that it was in urgent need of a lot of money spending on it. There were weeds in the garden and the outside was in desperate need of repainting. The inside was better…the bedroom we were given was clean and the bed comfortable. The grouting in the bathroom was discoloured and the inside of the double glazing was filthy. Breakfast had to be pre-ordered but was good, though on the first morning the hot food arrived at the same time as the cereal! The hotel is restaurant was closed on two nights…due I imagine to staff shortages…and the rooms were not serviced…supposedly because of Covid. However the main problem was lack of security…two men entered our room at midnight with a key- card that apparently worked in our door lock. Disconcerting to say the least!

"Disappointed"
Dot P, 06 Septembre 2021

One cup and one biscuit for a double room with 2 people, was inappropriate.Room not serviced for second nights stay. Bar area was inundated with bluebottles.staff were friendly, and food( that was available on the menu) was good.

"Lovely hotel with great staff"
JacquelineB879, 06 Septembre 2021

Spent 2 days here as anniversary and treat. Hotel is clean spacious rooms and huge double bed . Staff are welcoming and always smiling . Good central location with a lovely breakfast . City centre looks like it is struggling with Covid as very quiet with many pubs sitting empty

"Good location in Dumfries"
heather h, 27 Août 2021

The hotel is in an excellent location opposite the station and easy walking distance to the centre with its bars and restaurants A typical Victorian style old hotel with medium sized room but large, modern en suite What was disappointing was the lack of housekeeping. On arrival our shower rail was broken but we were able to fix it. There was a large dust web over the shower and the bedside clock was at the wrong time. I tried to correct the clock but was unable to do so and asked for housekeeping to sort it. They didn't. Neither did they service the room, replenish bathroom products or hospitality tray. There was no hairdryer. The explanation for this was Covid-19, but I had deliberately waited for lockdown to end before I made the reservation !!! Breakfast was very efficient but there was a lack of fish option Staff were generally friendly and helpful I would revisit for an overnight stay if travelling further North

"Disappointing"
Erica231, 26 Août 2021

Single room booked. Very small including the shower. Not sure a large man would have fit into the shower comfortably. Felt dirty all the grouting between tiles was a dirty yellow. Skirting boards were dirty. Big dip in the bed but hotel said they had no spare rooms which actually wasn't true. They did send someone up to turn the mattress! The £10 breakfast was a disappointment. I ordered the famous scotch potato scones but they were hard & dry, beans also seemed to have been heated up several times. Not worth the money charged. Doesn't deserve the 4* in my opinion

"Short stay."
Carole O, 06 Août 2021

The hotel is opposite the railway station so is ideal for those travelers wanting to catch a train to visit other parts of Scotland. There is ample car parking too. The hotel itself is a lovely big building but is in need of some updating. It looks tired in some parts of the hotel. Our large bedroom was right opposite the railway station but was so quiet. Breakfast was lovely. Could not fault the staff they were brilliant!!!!! Made our stay a very pleasant experience.

"Super Evening Meal"
GWB1952, 05 Août 2021

We stayed across the road at the excellent Huntingdon B&B, however due to bad weather we booked into the Station Hotel bistro for dinner and what a good decision that turned out to be. The meal was superb, we had a ribeye steak and a chicken stuffed with haggis special. Both were perfectly cooked and presented. We would certainly eat here again and very happy to recommend this place, thanks.

"Station Hotel Dumfries"
Twentyoneforever, 04 Août 2021

This hotel originally built for a railway company retains an atmosphere of bygone grandeur. Wide lobby and staircases, wide passageways and walls between bedrooms built of brick. No disabled access up main entrance flight of steps, though you may get in the back door by ringing the bell. Bathrooms have been modernised. Staircase carpet showing signs of wear, and a couple of holes in the room armchair. TV was quite large compared to tiny TVs in some hotels, and looked as it was a hand-me-down from elsewhere. Quiet at night, double glazing on room window. You have to order your breakfast the night before, and be able to predict how you will feel in the morning! Breakfast in bistro, serving staff attentive, busy and pleasant. Cooked breakfast was fine. Parking outside hotel is handy.

"Wowcher short stay"
Bigdod166, 02 Août 2021

Lovely hotel, close enough for city centre. Waiters in dining room at breakfast couldn't do enough for us. Only problem is that neither of the 2 rooms I had booked (1 for wife and I and one for friends) received bottle of wine that was included in the deal. I have emailed hotel but as yet no reply.

"Very good hotel"
Andyfawr, 28 Juillet 2021

A very good hotel for the price paid, check in was excellent, the rooms were adequate but in need of being refurbished Breakfast was excellent, staff were very friendly and efficient The hotel is about 10 minutes walk to the centre of Dumfries, a very friendly working town, nice Riverside walks, a few good real ale bars close by

"Wowcher Deal Short Stay"
MrsAPaisley, 23 Juillet 2021

Lovely Hotel, staff were welcoming and helpful, breakfast was organised and food was very nice. Unfortunately no evening meal due to no Chef, but hotel provided a list of places nearby to eat out. Our room was attic room on top floor, room was very compact and was made up for one person on our arrival, one set towels, one mug etc

"Nice location and friendly service"
STUART D, 21 Juillet 2021

Booked 3 rooms for one night as travelling with friends, A nice hotel with parking outside. Close to the station and a few minutes walk away from the town centre. Rooms were nice sized and the breakfast was very nice. Would stay here again.

"Good covid hotel"
jemster65, 17 Juillet 2021

Smack in the centre of Dumfries, next to the railway station. Good parking. Old and in need of a tidy. Room was good. Staff were brilliant. Breakfast , I sensed, was covid affected, but you got what you asked for and it was all good stuff. No evening meal available so couldn't judge that option.

"Warm welcome"
JimL225, 03 Juillet 2021

just an overnight stay but a most enjoyable stay . Very friendly and helpful reception. Short walk into the centre. Hotel spotlessly clean .parking at the front door . Great breakfast served by pleasant young ladies. Opposite train station if you want to travel further . Excelkent visit.

"Lovely hotel"
Gillian48, 24 Juin 2021

We really enjoyed our stay. Lovely hotel in an interesting town. One highlight was the receptionist, Alice, who really went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She helped us to find a nice restaurant and was very friendly and professional.

"Work trip"
paulsS8804KR, 08 Juin 2021

Hotel was ok bit dated. No evening meal but was explained on arrival. Breakfast was a disappointment no acknowledgement from the staff & seemed they were late. No offer of tea or coffee at Breakfast. Staff were more interested in getting other tables ready

"Great location"
data_mahoney, 06 Juin 2021

Perfect location for arriving by train and exploring the area by rail. Hotel only short walk to town. Public rooms a little tired and bedroom could do with modernising. However, room I had was very spacious and bed was huge and comfortable. Bathroom functional but could be so much more inviting. I want to feel pampered when staying in hotels and submerged in nice surroundings. This hotel has so much potential. Staff very helpful and friendly-nothing too much trouble.

"Lots of good things but.."
Ilovetravel1967, 01 Juin 2021

Stayed here for one night, bed and breakfast. The positives are the location-quiet, despite being next to the railway station. Nice walk to the River Nith path and into town. Very attractive building on the outside and lovely bar garden. Staff were also friendly and helpful. Our bedroom had a mega comfy king size bed and the room was clean. What could be better... our room was clean but dated (which would make it hard for me to recommend to friends). We were also looking forward to a cooked breakfast but apparently, the hotel is short of a chef. The breakfast experience was disappointing not only with the bland bacon roll served but the loud radio music which no one else seemed to enjoy either, judging by the lack of chat on any table. We would go back if there is a chef!!!

"Great hotel & value for money"
MandyM240885, 31 Mai 2021

Hotel was ideal for a short stay. Room very clean and very big for a family room. Breakfast was great even though there was changes due to Covid. Dinner was unable to be offered but near by place to eat

"Lovely staff, bathroom awful!"
600carly, 25 Mai 2021

Firstly, the staff were really friendly and professional. Every member of staff we dealt with was lovely and couldn't do enough for us. Although I have criticisms of the bathroom in our room, we would definitely stay again. The room itself was a lovely surprise. Four poster bed snd everything very clean snd comfortable. Unfortunately, the bathroom was awful. It was just dirty, see pictures. There was wallpaper off the walls, dirt in all the corners just very very in need of redecorating. Breakfast was good. The guy that seated us was, as other staff, very professional and friendly and made us feel really welcome. I would stay again but that bathroom needs sorting out.

"Good location, great staff!"
Anne D, 09 Mai 2021

We spent a couple of nights here, since we can! Check in was easy and our room was really nice and large. All the boxes were ticked with 3 chairs, desk, good sized bed, tea & coffee available, lovely bathroom, lots of power points. We enjoyed an enjoyable aperitif in the beer garden after we arrived as weather was mild. Very comfortable nights sleep and shower was great. Breakfast sheet was a little confusing and our order was a little awry but the staff took excellent care of it. The following day we circled our requests and they had everything spot on. The staff really made a difference at this hotel, thank you! Would not hesitate to recommend this BW.

"Good location - Excellent Value - Very nice staff"
Passport32785747689, 04 Novembre 2020

Enjoyed our stay - hotel needs a bit of a refurbishment but we enjoyed our stay - excellent Scottish breakfast - very good value - will stay here again. Staff handled the Covid issues very well, dinner menu is OK but could use one or two extra choices , very large plates of food - very good value.

"Fantastic hotel"
Lorraine862, 19 Octobre 2020

This hotel was working well under covid19 restrictions. The restaurant and food service was highly recommended. Preorder breakfast but everything was as ordered. Can not fault staff at all Would highly recommend

"Tired hotel. "
Cheekieern, 04 Octobre 2020

We stayed for one night on the 3 October til 4 October 2020. The room was cold when we arrived but soon warmed up late on. The bathroom/shower room needed a good clean. The glass was clean but the wet wall had grime on it. The shower hose dirty too. The curtains were ripped in the bathroom. Paint work flaking. Definitely a tired hotel. On the plus side. The staff were friendly. Attentive. The food was excellent with exaggerated portions. I like my food but struggled to finish it. Loads of sanitising stations around the hotel too. Well done guys but please speak to your cleaners. Ernie Nicholson

"Not great"
mariecO7780ZZ, 14 Septembre 2020

Arriving at the hotel it is very old and tired..seriously needs a makeover. Wallpaper in the bathroom was falling off and had been patched numerous times.Shower was freezing cold and the sink was cracked. The toilet bin was full of cigarette packets. The breakfast on the 1st morning was good but the 2nd morning was unedible..The staff were very nice but the hotel itself was quiet.Best Western need to invest in their hotels. I wouldn't go back to this hotel.

"Great Staff"
coopstroops, 03 Septembre 2020

Look the cold tap leaked then it became warm, bathroom ceiling paint was peeling and a drawer was broke. (Room 46). But mattress was comfortable, shower was good, breakfast was tasty and best of all the most fantastic friendly and helpful staff you'll ever meet. Oh and free parking. Hence overall worth 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️'s

"Lovely old hotel"
610n49, 11 Août 2020

Stayed here for three nights. The room we had was excellent and the hotel staff were all Marvellous in these trying times. Good value hotel in a central location. Food was adequate in the hotel. Would stay here again.

"A tired establishment"
811819, 05 Août 2020

We went to Dumfries for a wee 3 day break and because it was b & b we had to eat out for dinner. tried booking various eateries in the town but ALL were booked up ! came across Station hotel and phoned - no problem getting a table (I wondered why)? Its a tired looking place that needs massive investment. We got talking to 4 other guests and they had ordered the Fish dish (basically Fish and Chips) saying was good - so we did the same....Mistake the fish was in its infancy and the chips were nearing black with no taste I selected 3 chips - ate them and left the rest. Complained to the waiter/barman/dish washer and he said he would pass on my complaint. Even with the 50% off it still wasn't good value. Seems some renovation has started but think it might be some rooms personally think their wasting their time. would NOT recommend this place for anything...

"The most welcome welcome"
John S, 18 Juillet 2020

stayed for one night and on check in was treated as a friend rather than a guest. Such a warm welcome. The hotel has great parking and is situated close to the town so ideal for exploring. The room was big and had a four poster bed, large tv and a coffee maker. Even had a jacuzzi. The room was very clean and comfortable. The restaurant was closed due to Covid 19 restrictions however the bar was open and I was able to buy some drinks. They have a great selection to choose from. Will definitely stay again and will recommend this hotel to people.

"Slow refund policy"
AS-1971As, 29 Mai 2020

Beware booking rooms with this hotel. After requesting a refund on 30th April for 3 rooms I booked for my mother's 80th birthday in May, I have only recently been refunded for 1 room. The manageress Dawn assured me on several occasions that she had processed my refund. I emailed her this week to advise her that I had received a refund for only one room and have yet to receive a response.

"No Refund , Although Promised Twice"
stephensU2537CE, 17 Mai 2020

My Brother and I have been waiting on a refund on a cancelled COVID 19 affected , 80th Celebration. I booked two rooms, he is owed for three. We where not made aware of any hold ups with refunds when informed first of all by email on the 20th April 2020 that the refund transaction had been done. Surely we can't be the only ones waiting? Its in the hands of my banks dispute team now.

"Came back again"
k6abk, 07 Mars 2020

Returned for another 2 night break while taking in a show at the theatre. We were well looked after, rooms spotless, evening meal and breakfast first class I don't think we would stay elsewhere in Dumfries after staying here.

"TLC required "
ColetteO_12, 06 Mars 2020

What can I say..... handy location. That about sums it up. While I appreciate there has been a tremendous effort to maintain original features the hotel is dated and in need of some basic maintenance. Check in was fine with great service (with a smile). My room was cold, draughty with a questionable bed and bathroom. No luxury feel at all. However, it served a purpose as a stopover hotel at a decent price. The bar in the evening was reasonably priced, however all drinks charged to your room after 10pm. The breakfast was good, even if the haggis was brick hard and there was a large selection of hot and cold options.

"Outstanding survivor of the classic Victorian station hotel"
Stewart K, 06 Mars 2020

Having suffered the dreaded 'rail replacement service' from Carlisle I was not in the best of moods when arriving more than an hour late at the hotel. However a warm welcome and the information that dinner was still available mellowed me more than a little. I had a very good dinner at a very reasonable price. My room was large and had recently been refurbished and the bathroom (with a window!) was worthy of a four star hotel. A very comfortable bed with good quality linen, clock radio, a very large tv with multiple channels and ample tea and coffee and spare towels were also welcome. Good toiletries (not captive) - a plus. The paper ordered was waiting at my door (something that seems to happen rarely in some 4 star chain hotels) and this set me up for a very nice breakfast cooked to order. Staff were friendly and competent. My only observation is that a bottle of water would have been nice.

"Lack lustre"
Worldpicnic, 04 Mars 2020

Booked 2 twin rooms-Grubby curtains and Shabby bathrooms. This place had seen better days. The single room was better as it appeared to have been refurbished. Constant nighttime noise with busses running. Breakfast just average undercooked bacon and tepid haggis! Service friendly but we will stay elsewhere next time.... Quite sad as this was an old family favourite in times gone by!

"Very dated and in need of lots of TLC."
mrsk136, 02 Mars 2020

Stayed here as we were attending an event in Dumfries. We arrived late afternoon on the Saturday. We checked in, the girl on the front desk was friendly and helpful. We went upto our room to drop our bag off, our room was on the top floor and in the rafters. The room was very dated, in need of modernising. The lighting was terrible. The tap in the bathroom constantly dripped. We attended our event and even considered just going home afterwards as the room was not really to our standards. After the event we came back to the hotel and decided to have a couple of drinks in the bar to save going to our room so early. Service at the bar was good, was front desk staff. The lounge area was huge, such a shame it's so dated as could be beautiful. Breakfast was good and service was good. The decor let's the hotel down. The staff were all great. I would not recommend this hotel, such a shame as it's in a good location.

"One night"
DerbyshireGardeners, 05 Février 2020

Good place to use en route to different areas of Scotland. Clean and comfortable, good food. Friendly locals. Good position in Dumfries and good parking. Being keen bird watchers handy for Caerlaverock bird reserve and Merse Head RSPB.

"helpful staff, cold/lukewarm water shower"
Liz D, 15 Janvier 2020

Stayed here for a work trip, right across the street from the train station so very convenient. I accidentally booked for the wrong day and the staff were very willing to help and accommodate, although the only room available was the "executive room" which cost twice as much but they gave me a slight discount which was appreciated. The property is next to a street which is very quiet at night and I slept well, but once traffic started going at 7-7:30 am I was awoken by the cars driving by despite double glazing windows. The property was very old and could do with remodeling, old furniture and fixtures from what looks like the 1970s, and bare walls in the hotel and the "executive room". The bathroom was newly renovated. However, the water was cold for the first 10 minutes and then only slightly lukewarm in the center of the stream and still cold on the outside for the remainder of the shower. Which was very uncomfortable because there wasn't great heating in the room too, though there was a portable heater that I could use which helped. The staff told me in the morning it could be because the hotel was fully booked so maybe the hot water ran out, which seems like something that shouldn't happen in a hotel. The warm full english breakfast was £10 if not included in the room and was very filling and sufficient for breakfast.

"Dated Hotel but Good"
Laverie321, 08 Janvier 2020

Hotel is a bit dated, could do with a bit of renovating especially the bar. Very quiet hotel and not very far from Dumfries town centre ( about 5 minutes away). Service is great, Bradley on reception (and Bar) was very friendly and cheery and helped with any query we had. Food was outstanding, and service from James in the restaurant was first class. Would definitely return for the service, but would like to see the main areas of the hotel a bit more scrubbed up.

"The Station Hotel Dumfries"
vivienthorn80, 25 Décembre 2019

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. It was warm 22 degrees all day long, the staff were very friendly and helpful and I was very comfortable. The location is perfect for the rail traveller - right outside the station.

"Average"
L7796OWmonty, 08 Décembre 2019

Average is the key word here. It won't last in the memory for disappointment or for enjoyment. Convenience is the essence of this hotel but noise is the drawback. I can't comment on the cuisine as I chose to dine out at the Cairndale which is very nice and equally convenient.

"Good hotel with very good breakfast"
KozoHoshino, 08 Décembre 2019

Stayed one night for business, next to the railway station although 5 minutes walk to town centre. The very nice breakfast was full cooked + small buffet selection. A good Victorian hotel although the lounge decor was needing refreshed.

"Beautiful Old Historic Hotel"
desiree61, 07 Décembre 2019

Stayed here for 8 nights in comfortable room with a view over the railway. The hotel is a great old building but needs some upgrades in the common areas - bar upholstery, windows and carpet. The courtyard bistro had good choices on the menu and delicious food. Lots of parking spaces around hotel. Thanks to the ladies at reception, Rebecca and Shirley. Thanks also to the housekeeping ladies, Abi and Charmaine

"Nice place, lovely staff, gets a bit noisy outside in the early morning"
John301, 23 Novembre 2019

Large sprawling hotel, a bit tired but the room was comfy and functional and all the staff were very nice. I've stayed a couple of times and each time have been disturbed in the early hours by the bin men, buses and the early morning activity of the adjacent train station, if the windows had better sound insulation it wouldn't be an issue. Nobody should be surprised about train activity though, the clue is in the name of the hotel!

"A lovely stay"
GlasgowLainey, 17 Novembre 2019

We stayed at this hotel on friday 25th October on an ITSON deal (sorry for the late review). We had a wonderful stay. The hotel was a pleasant surprise as some of the reviews had been quite negative. Yes the hotel is a bit dated but it was very traditional and spotlessly clean. Any staff we spoke to were friendly and professional. Rebecca was on reception when we arrived and was very helpful in directing us around Dumfries and we have to mention the lovely Bradley – thank you Bradley for your very nice anniversary gesture. We had a nice spacious room and a lovely evening meal. If we had one minor criticism it was that the breakfast menus said toast/tea/coffee would be served at the table but it isn't (which we don't mind) but no one told us and we sat for a little while thinking we were being ignored! Overall we very much enjoyed our stay and I am looking to return next year with my mum as a birthday treat for her. Thanks again for a lovely stay

"Don't listen to negative reviews "
DianneRossWebster, 12 Novembre 2019

We were feeling very poorly, so we were delighted to see the hotel a minute walk across from railway station. After reading negative reviews on way down in train we didn't know what to expect. However a very friendly guy on reception welcomed us and checked us in. The hotel and our room was lovely, fully equipped with iron and board, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities. Large comfy bed and warm room was just what we needed to recover from our 'bug'. Only down point we had was we were called out to meet someone and we would be late for the breakfast deadline of 9 30 and on asking the female receptionist to ask kitchen staff to save us a bacon roll we felt we had to push her to ring kitchen to ask for us. We felt she should have offered as after all we had paid for 2 breakfasts. However once she did ring the chef there was no problem and they saved 2 bacon rolls for us. This hotel has a great location for travellers and has a distinct Scottish flavour. We would have no hesitation in staying here again. Ps toilet was modern and lovely.

"Very dated and drab"
Yoshi246, 31 Octobre 2019

Visited midweek for the one night and was greeted by a very nice lady at reception who was knowledgeable and very helpful. My room was on the top floor and was extremely dark - there was only 1 light on the ceiling and in an L shaped room this is never going to work so hence the area by the door was very dark. The carpet had bits all over it that I could feel on my feet. The bathroom was clean but very basic and only 1 of the 3 lights were working. The décor was dated and the whole hotel is in need of a refurb. I had a drink in the bar and wish I hadn't bothered. The choice od beer was shabby and that is being kind. The bar is also quite expensive Breakfast was good but they forgot my coffee. If I was to go back to Dumfries I would certainly stay elsewhere

"Uninspiring but fine for the price"
RoverP, 31 Octobre 2019

Very dated with rooms desperately in need of refurbishment and replacement (or recovered) chairs. Limited and poor choice of beers in the bar. Breakfast so so. The continental buffet was below holiday inn / premier inn standards. Hot breakfasts to order were OK but eggs were well over cooked. However, the price was very good, so it was absolutely fine for the price. Staff all very pleasant too.

"Go abbie! Go abbie!"

"What a nice place"
316davym, 22 Octobre 2019

Having stayed in many station hotels I wasn't expecting much. So well done Best Western Dumfries for surprising me. Charming hotel, spacious room and a restaurant providing something a bit more than the usual dinner offering.

"very nice"
LouiseCurtisPA, 14 Octobre 2019

Very nice welcome, reception was a very good welcome, nice friendly staff and a very clean room, towels are big and we all had an amazing dinner and breakfast. Toilets are very clean and I like the wee touches like hand cream. Over all it was 100% . if I am ever in Dumfries again , I will use them again Thanks x

"Nice break"
k6abk, 29 Septembre 2019

We had a very nice 2 day holiday at the hotel the staff are really nice and friendly. Food was amazing The rooms are spacious and comfortable we had a good sleep even though we were overlooking the railway station. We will certainly return to this hotel

"Very Nice Stay"
LBtravel555, 22 Septembre 2019

We spent one night here as we came to visit family in Castle Douglas and were taking a train early the next day. Having the train station so close made thing very easy. This was a lovely quaint hotel right across from the station. The room was lovely and the bath very nice. The staff was very friendly. It was an easy walk to town in the evening to go to a restaurant. Overall, a very nice stay.

"Visit to Dumfries"
Bernie S, 20 Septembre 2019

"Excellent"
Sep003, 11 Septembre 2019

Excellent hotel. Lovely cosy & clean rooms. Very well run by Mrs Archibald (manager) and her staff who are exceptionally helpful (especially James). Both Breakfast & Dinner were excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

"Good service, facilities and value."
C A, 19 Août 2019

This is a lovely old hotel in a central location and adjacent to the railway station. All of the staff were friendly and efficient and the kitchen produced great breakfasts and evening meals. It is worth the short (5min) walk into the town centre which has interesting old buildings and statues. I'd certainly recommend the hotel for a 'value for money' visit or business stay.

"50th Birthday Party "
mikesV9071TF, 11 Août 2019

Stayed over last night as I was having my 50th party at the hotel, the staff were excellent and helpful. Dawn the GM was very helpful dealing with the booking as it was all done by email as I live quite a bit away. The lady who was on receptionthen helped out in the bar when we booked in was outstanding, she went above and beyond and also the bar man on shift was great during a very busy night sorry I did not get there names . I had one issue that was dealt with by the morning team on checkout but it did not my spoil my trip. All in all a gem of a place and would happily recommend them.

"Welcoming hotel with well stocked bar"
TheRealHussar, 06 Août 2019

Lovely staff, clean comfy rooms, good food and a well stocked bar with great access to train station and town centre. Free parking on site for guests, good WiFi and a restaurant with well priced well cooked food.

"Highly recommended Hotel in Dumfries"
Anson2109, 31 Juillet 2019

Fab Hotel, friendly and efficient staff. Rooms immaculate, comfy bed. Food excellent with nice selection on the menu. Breakfast to die for. Great location just across form the railway station and 5 mins walk in to town.

"Could do better"
sheila560, 28 Juillet 2019

The hotel is currently being refurbished. Our room had been refurbished in keeping with the style of the hotel other areas of the hotel are dated but refurbishment is planned. Car parking at front of hotel. Check the facilities before booking if you have mobility issues as the dining room is on a lower level and you would require to enter from a rear entrance. As it was a very wet evening we returned to the hotel early and planned to have a few drinks in the bar however when we went along about 8pm the bar area was all but closed the TV was off, there was no background music on there was no one around reception or the bar area it was so dismal we didn't bother trying to locate a member of staff we would have happily accepted the dated furnishings if there had been a little ambiance about the place! Breakfast was adequate, the menu offered a choice of breads and rolls served to the table but only toast was offered. Our main issue with the hotel was the very poor hospitality. We encountered 6 members of staff and only the lady on reception made any effort to interact with us. Some staff attitudes were rude others were disinterested. Surely it is good manners to say good morning to guests when they go into breakfast, ask if everything is ok, is anything else required ?maybe even talk to people ...enjoying your stay? where are you from? the weather!!!! Just taking an order and throwing food on the table isn't quite enough to encourage return trade. The evening and night staff could do more to make quests feel welcome again...if you require anything..did you want something from the bar...? Not just when seeing someone smoking outside...the smoking areas over there!! As a Scot I was very disappointed with the lack of hospitality in this hotel it certainly doesn't fit the expectation of a good Scottish welcome ............more like a dour grumpy scotsman!!!

"Good located hotel"
brian W, 24 Juillet 2019

Hotel is located next to train station and offers residential parking. Reception staff friendly. Hotel is traditional and rooms clean, but rooms could do with considerable modernisation. Room bathrooms could also do with considerable modernisation

"Fabulous hotel in Dumfries"
cgledh718249, 21 Juillet 2019

Great hotel, centrally located. Friendly welcome and knowledgeable reception staff. Great comfortable room. Good evening meal and breakfast. Bistro staff very professio am and their recommendations on the menu helpful. Price very competitive. Would certainly recommend the Station Hotel for any visiting Dumfries and Galloway.

"Comfortable and convenient"
raquelpdl, 14 Juillet 2019

Conveniently located directly across from the train station, I initially worried it might be too noisy - but we slept with the windows open every night and all was perfectly calm and quiet. Our two single beds room was spacious and clean, and we quite enjoyed having a towel warming rack in the bathroom. Overall this hotel was inviting and the staff were all friendly and polite. Unfortunately we did not get a chance to eat in the dining room, but it looked like a great option.

"Good Honest Hotel"
Sue C, 13 Juillet 2019

Great Little Hotel. close to railway station. Clean rooms, good size bathroom. Great bar area and an excellent breakfast supplied. Walking distance into town. Staff helpful with any questions we asked.

"Great staff"
Anya L, 12 Juillet 2019

It's a lovely hotel but what really stood out was the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. Our room was in the attic area and was a bit basic but for some reason didn't have a bedside light. I asked for one and the receptionist couldn't find one so gave me the one straight out of reception. My friend's request for a fan was met instantly as well. They could do a bit more for smokers. It was raining one evening when we were having a drink in the bar and I had to stand in the rain to smoke. A covered bit would be appreciated. As a smoker I am used to being treated like a second class citizen but I have always found that if smokers are catered for, paying attention to this detail means that other details, not related to smoking are paid attention to as well.

"Comfortable room in lovely old hotel"
MyBreaks11, 12 Juillet 2019

I recently enjoyed an 8 night stay at the Station Hotel in Dumfries. It was a return visit to an area of Scotland that I had not visited for many years. So good to see that Dumfries and Galloway had changed very little over the years and was still quiet and not commercialised. Room 23 was large, very clean and comfortable and a great place to come back to relax in the evenings after long days out walking and touring the area. Great that you are slowly refurbishing the hotel but don't modernise it too much. I loved the old features including the huge doors, high ceilings and main staircase. So much more character than these modern hotel chains! For 7 nights of my stay I found the hotel extremely quiet and I slept very well in the huge comfortable bed. Just Saturday night was a bit noisy when there was a party of men and young boys staying who looked as though they were here for a sports event. there was a lot of running around and banging doors into the early hours, but that was only one night and it didn't spoil my stay. I received a friendly welcome when I arrived. Breakfast was excellent and good to have the hot items freshly cooked to order and servved by friendly staff. I only had an evening meal in the hotel one evening as I mainly ate out late afternoon but the one meal I did have was very good. If ever I decide to return to the area again, I will certainly be staying at The Station Hotel.

"Short stay in Dumfries"
mlewis228278, 09 Juillet 2019

A central hotel in a pleasant location next to the railway station. The hotel has parking on-site and there is a beer garden attached. The bedrooms on the first floor are spacious and comfortable. Although the public areas are a bit dated, the bedrooms are well decorated and are equipped with TV, coffee-making facilities and en-suite. The hotel has an interesting, well-priced menu available.

"Lovely staff"
806becr, 07 Juillet 2019

This was our fourth stay at this hotel as We do visit Dumfries regularly to visit family. This visit was the best one yet, every member of staff (especially Bradley) were lovely and friendly, I even got a hug from one particularly lovely member of staff as I was sad about a family member being ill. The hotel has a very pleasant homely feel, yes it could do with an decor update BUT it is very clean (our bathroom was spotless). Beds and linen are super comfy. The breakfast is gorgeous and the service was fast and efficient. The garden is a lovely addition full of lovely plants and flowers (even had a baby seagull that was wandering about haha) Thank you for making a difficult family visit a comfortable, friendly one

"A sunny day in Dumfries"
Climber11975382771, 04 Juillet 2019

Hotel had ample parking places, had a quick check into my room, the room was airy modern, clean and warm. The facilities in the room were excellent, and although my room faced the railway station, I could not hear anything when the windows were closed. If you turn left out of the hotel there is a nice sports bar within a 2min walk, with a further 5/10 min walk to the town centre.Breakfast was very nice, with quick and efficient staff and everything you could want for your breakfast.

"Great hotel"
lorrainesU8783AD, 01 Juillet 2019

Great hotel close to town centre food excellent and staff very friendly would certainly recommend this hotel Room comfortable and well cleaned Only problem was the seagulls but that was out of hotels hands

"Best Western at it's best"
mmaher220856, 29 Juin 2019

Always have a good stay with Best Western and this was no exception. Lovely room, lovely food, great staff for who nothing is a problem from reception to dining to bar staff. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Dumfries, you couldn't do better.

"OLD FASHIONED SERVICE"
Jane L, 28 Juin 2019

stayed in a nearby B & B, but ate here on a Saturday night recently, Lovely restaurant, in a basement area, first class Old fashioned service, Good Food, but sadly very limited Gluten free Options on the menu. Having said that, if in Dumfries again, would eat here again.

"weekend stay"

"Decent value hotel in a good location "
Andythebaggie, 26 Mai 2019

This hotel is one of the classic Victorian era Railway Station Hotels, so as you'd expect its adjacent to the station, there is also free parking outside the front of the hotel. It's only a five minute walk into town from here too. The Station hotel has many fine and unusual architecture features which give it character, and it's been much better maintained than many of its contemporaries. Our room 18, was on the first floor. There's an amusing hydraulic style lift if you don't want to use the stairs. The room was light with two large sash style windows which can be opened a reasonable amount. Nice to see Scottish shortbread and 2 hot chocolates on the refreshment tray. Not a lot of storage space, the narrow wardrobe also contained the ironing board. WiFi was easy to get on, and the flatscreen tv had a choice of the usual channels. The bed, well I would say it was average in terms of comfort. Bathroom was clean and well maintained, it had one of the short and narrow sinks which are difficult to use without splashing water around. The public rooms are large and in decent nick. Even though the hotel was apparently full, we hardly saw any other guests. In fact the whole hotel was very quiet. The bar had a poor range of beer, but a reasonable choice of whisky and gin, at hotel prices naturally. Breakfast served downstairs was of a decent standard. Full Scottish breakfast brought out from the kitchen, not on the buffet. Service was ok throughout all departments. So overall I would say this is a hotel represents good value, decent amenities, and in a great position whether your visiting Dumfries for leisure or work.

"In need of refurbishment"
Azure55, 18 Mai 2019

I remember when The Station used to be the best hotel in town. Sadly it is far from that now. A recent review called it "tired and shabby" - I fully agree, both for the rooms and the public areas (apart from the bistro). Management tells me that refurbishment is planned soon - I really hope so, since it is sad to see the hotel falling into such a state of disrepair.

"Just ok"
sweetie23, 18 Mai 2019

On arrival Bradley not very pleasant, were given a small room on top floor with the bed set into a sloping roof, so inevitably hit head. Never slept as mattress was too soft. However, good points, very quiet and near the town. Food expensive so went up town for dinner. Would recommend for quietness but not room 45.

"Great stay again"
margaretg01, 15 Mai 2019

This hotel is first class, great service, staff and excellent choice in bistro for breakfast and dinner, great location a short walk to Dumfries town centre, and close to railway station, would definitely return

"Great base for a golf trip"
sitaylor1, 12 Mai 2019

Stayed here for 2 nights in a golf party of 9 on a D,B&B basis. Plenty of single rooms for those that prefer (we had 5 singles & 2 twins). Evening meal and breakfast were both excellent with good food and an excellent choice of menu. Staff were all very pleasant. Hotel is well situated for a walk into town. Hotel has plenty of parking. Would definitely recommend.

"Tired and disappointing"
Soozee444, 11 Mai 2019

The hotel is quite shabby and tired although our room was lovely. The food was quite expensive and unfortunately, didn't live up to our expectations. Waited ages for our wine to be brought to the table. (Apparently, it was chilling)!

"Midweek break"
Eleanor K, 05 Mai 2019

Spent two nights at Best Western Station Hotel Dumfries and can't recommend it highly enough. Room just what we asked for husband has walking difficulties so near lift. Breakfast was very enjoyable so nice to be served rather than buffet style. Dinner was excellant only complaint portions very large couldn't do it justice.

"Lovely hotel"
Liz R, 28 Avril 2019

Went here for a weekend the hotel was lovely room and toilet very clean .the staff were very friendly and helpful.we had breakfast and dinner the food was really good. The hotel was very close to town pubs ect

"Would return! Lovely staff! "
anna_lav1971, 21 Avril 2019

A perfect stay from start to finish. A very welcoming greeting from Bradley on reception - who also served us on the bar and also brought us extra milk and towels to our room!! Amazing food with top class service from both gents in the restaurant. Can not fault the room except perhaps it being a bit outdated, but still spotless. Will put this on my list to return again in the future.

"Great service at a good Hotel"
300John57, 15 Avril 2019

We stayed here on 13th and 14th April 2019. Bradley and Rebecca on reception do a great job making sure everything is to your satisfaction. We had breakfast and an evening meal which was tasty and plentiful. Service was excellent from James and Liam at dinner and Melanie and Liam (again) at breakfast. The overall service from all the staff is exceptional . I would not hesitate to return.

"Relaxing lunch break"
52isabelsimpson, 14 Avril 2019

Very well looked after in the hotel. We were waiting to meet someone who was delayed and went in initially for a coffee and after an extended stay decided to have lunch. We enjoyed our food and can only thank the staff for their kindness.

"1 nighter in Dumfries"
Trail41265879166, 12 Avril 2019

The hotel is fairly tired, my room was in need of updating, but fully functional. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the service was fine. The hotel was close to the station, as the name suggests. There is a car rental company close by, which could make this a good place for a train and hire car type of break.

"Group of birders"
itsmeanne, 08 Avril 2019

This hotel did really well with our group of 29 all descending on them for a long weekend of bird watching. Meals were simple but tasty and hot. Only once saw food returned to the kitchen. Our room was above the entrance and was clean, warm and comfortable which is not always the case with an old building.

"A really great experiance"
eup7110, 18 Mars 2019

Firstly I was that awkward customer due to a blow out I found myself having to stay overnight with no real notice I was met by dawn and Bradly given a great room quickly on entering the restaurant in a hurry service was very very fast and accommodating I went for the fish and chips but boy was I surprised yes the chips and mushy peas were fine but the fish light fantastic and the batter well I would have paid double and been well impressed . As a venue its amazing . It punches far above its weight if your needing a quick stop or somewhere special I will recommend it Highly . I will be back and thankyou for making a misadventure fun . Its a great throw back to yesteryear do grab dinner but also visit the bar and the lounge a real treat that modernity cheap fittings have not crept into a stylish and elegant hotel thank you to the bar man and waiting staff and chief .

"A hotel with character"
OssianLtd, 12 Mars 2019

I was worried about staying a stone's throw from a railway station, but the hotel was very nice - an old building with lots of character - and the room was comfortable (albeit small). A comfortable double bed, a decent desk, and a small bathroom. Two windows with nice views, although they made the room a bit cold. Breakfast - excellent, as was dinner on one night. Staff were invariably polite and friendly, and the WiFi was excellent.

"Perfect for short stays"
Ewan A, 01 Février 2019

I found the place to be nice. It isn't your cutting edge hotel, its traditional scottish. Room was comfortable and met all my needs for a short stay. Staff were all very lovely, although night porter was a bit snippy about us using lovers walk entrance after 11pm. Breakfast was good value and tasty. Room refreshments were good. All in all a perfect place for a short stay in dumfries and in great location for station and short walk into town

"Dated and tired"
paulk2490, 22 Janvier 2019

This hotel needs a refurbishment and quickly, it's like stepping back into an 80's time warp. I was disappointed with the whole stay especially after staying at maimaison in Dundee and jury's inn Glasgow the previous 2 evenings for the same money, no comparison.

"Rude staff"
Compass63382716959, 15 Janvier 2019

This hotel har got to improve the service. Some of the staff were rude to us or to our friends during our short stay (4 days). Iif you can't behave in a decent way, you should not run an hotel. If you are going to Dumfries, avoid Best Western

"Lovely Staff"
Onkiblonk, 10 Janvier 2019

Although I wasn't staying at the Station Hotel, I called in for drinks and food with my husband, as we were staying at the B&B directly opposite, on Lover's Walk. We've visited the bar several times before and have received lovely, friendly service from Bradley, and tonight was no exception. He's chatty and smiley but also efficient. I must also mention James in the Courtyard Bistro. He looked after us in a very kind and respectful way, and remembered my Father-in-Law who was with us. My Father-in-Law hasn't been to the Courtyard Bistro for several years, and was delighted that James remembered him by name. Really nice service.

"New Year Break"
C8285ORjamesm, 05 Janvier 2019

We spent a lovely couple of days here over New Year. All the staff were extremely helpful, (especially the manager Dawn) our room was beautiful and the food was delicious. There was no entertainment but the manager explained it was because the hotel had recently been taken over. It suited us as we were looking for a quiet break. Would definitely recommend it and will definitely go back. Dumfries is a lovely town too. Lots to see and do there.

"Mr Alistair Bremner"
Alistairbremner, 18 Décembre 2018

Lovely evening at the station hotel last night and big thanks to all staff. Special mention to Rebecca who kept a cool head throughout the whole night! She dealt with 50-60 people exellently, thanks again.

"Great Hotel"
hillcrestlad, 13 Décembre 2018

Situated by the station, the hotel has loads of parking. Reception staff are very helpful, and the executive double room was all that you would expect. Breakfast is a buffet, tasty and very well presented. When I needed help to arrange a repair for a punctured tyre, the staff went out of their way to help me. Recommended.

"Historic Hotel with lovely features"
Karter44, 07 Décembre 2018

Weekend stay - booked through Best Western. Staff and service were as good as ever, although change of ownership meant that a wine list wasn't available for dinner due to re-evaluation of stocks - not a problem though. Special mention to Michael in the restaurant who was clearly very busy (could have done with an extra pair of hands at times!) but remained calm and professional. Lovely breakfast - a great start to the day and the coffee machine in the room was a lovely touch. Comfy bed, large room with lovely big bath and a decent sized TV. Looking forward to returning in 2019!

"Close to Station and Comfortable Hotel"
yhi904, 30 Novembre 2018

The hotel is just a few seconds walk from the station exit which is welcome on a cold and wet evening. A warm atmosphere, a warm reception and a warm room all await. Checkin efficient and room fully met expectations, with a lovely modern bathroom, plenty of power sockets, good sized tv with all freeview channels and comfortable bed and chairs. Fresh coffee maker and good selection of teas, hot chocolate and biscuits. Evening meal in the restaurant was lovely with good food and wine and all reasonably priced. Lots of positives which would definitely make me return if in the area. Minor niggles: * No safe in bedroom - useful for laptop, etc * Room very hot overnight - but eventually realised there was a thermostatic valve on the radiator * Breakfast service was a bit "hit and miss" - the food was lovely but the wait seemed unnecessarily long particularly as the restaurant wasn't busy

"A group of 22 visiting Canadians"
David H, 15 Novembre 2018

We were warmly welcomed and efficiently checked in. Rooms are quite decent and a good size. We have a private meal with approx 50 folks and they did not disappoint. Great food. Good service. This hotel is directly across the parking lot from the train station so very convenient.

"Great Hotel"
salty_Hastings, 12 Novembre 2018

Very nice hotel built around 1896 still has a lot of the original features, all staff very polite, well laid out room with a decent coffee maker, had a four poster bed. Breakfast was good. Right my Dumfries train station. Will be staying there again same time next year.

"another great stay"
harvey1scotland, 09 Novembre 2018

Had another great stay, changed ownership since the last time we visited, can only say it gets better, some original staff members, but they remembered us, that's a bonus, New management team brilliant, especially Dawn so welcoming and friendly, would certainly return

"Grand Old Hotel"
David K, 07 Novembre 2018

Opposite the Railway Station and formerly the property of the railway prior to privatisation. Characterful building. Excellent friendly service. Good room with all usual amenities. Great location being a short walk to the town centre and easy parking outside.

"A warm welcome in every sense"
Tour438808, 29 Octobre 2018

We spent a couple of very comfortable nights at this hotel. Lovely clean room, comfy bed, welcoming, helpful and friendly staff. It's not the most modern hotel you will ever stay in but it has history and a lot else to recommend it. Thank you for a great stay.

"Not a long eenough stay."
BARBARA G, 27 Octobre 2018

Just stayed here overnight on our way home from the Highlands .It was a lovely old building and whilst I usually like a more modern décor , this building was so lovely that had it been decorated too modern it would have spoiled it. It had lovely high ceilings and wood panelling yet it managed to be warm and welcoming. The staff that I saw were all very friendly and informative. There was a comfortable bar , and a nice bistro café area where breakfast was served. I cannot comment on the main meals as we only had the breakfast. There was an excellent choice and the meal was served hot and was nicely cooked and was not swimming in grease and fat. Although the hotel is opposite the station we were not conscious of this and the only real noise was from the bus stop ,but these stopped at a reasonable time and did not start too early in the morning. The bed was so comfortable however that we slept through any noise. There was plenty of parking available which for us is a necessity. We had room 15 on the first floor which was a large twin room ,the bathroom had been made suitable for a disabled person , but was very good as it was larger than average. I cannot comment on WI-FI issues as when we are away this is not an issue, but it may be for guests in the area for work purposes.

"Pleasant stay but very dated"
bigmal_7, 07 Octobre 2018

I stayed here for three nights in a single room on the 3rd floor. I have no major complaints about the stay - the staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean. The negatives were that the decor is extremely tired and dated and the heating system meant that the room was extremely hot. The alternative was to open the window which meant I could here the noise from the station. The first train comes through at just after 5 a.m!!

"Gorgeous Hotel"
Vacationer797459, 06 Octobre 2018

My husband and I stayed for one night at The Station Hotel. The room was lovely and spacious and very welcoming. Breakfast in the morning was also first class. The lovely man Rodger greeted us with a very happy cheerful attitude. Thanks again to all the staff who were faultless, we will definitely be back in the future. Mr and Mrs K

"Good Stay in Beautiful Old Building"
SearsPoints, 03 Octobre 2018

Enjoyed our time at this Best Western hotel in Dumfries. The entire hotel has rustic feel to it, in an old historical building right across the street from the train station. The staff was very friendly, our room was clean and well prepared. On the on-site restaurant served a very nice Dinner and breakfast was also very good. All an all a very nice stay. Highly recommend.

"A nice hotel"
Bob B, 18 Septembre 2018

I stayed here as part of a business trip and the fact that it is located close to Dumfries Station was key. The hotel staff are friendly and very helpful. My room was clean and tidy, but a little tired. I understand that they are upgrading the rooms on a rolling basis, but unfortunately i did not make an upgraded room. Breakfast was excellent. I was very happy with my stay at the station hotel and would stay again.

"Nice clean hotel."
Mhairi B, 13 Septembre 2018

Stayed 4 nights. Hotel is clean, bed is super comfortable and nice views. The rooms are spacious. The only gripes are in the bathroom: bath plug doesn't seal, shower is falling off the wall, toilet seat is only attached at one side and the water pressure is poor. Otherwise cannot fault the hotel: staff are nice, lovely to have a coffee machine in the room and common areas, though dated, are comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.

"Enjoyed the building and our stay"
Anita C, 10 Septembre 2018

There is more to like than not. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. Room was very clean and good size. Bathroom and shower were spotless and good size. Breakfast was good particularly staff who try very hard to please. Negative pillows need replacing. We were asked if we wanted a paper. Which replied yes times. Expected this outside door in the morning as stated in doco. Apparently held downstairs. Next day told night porter forgot to order it. Little I know but it's the little things that make a difference

"One night stop on the way to the Airshow in Ayr"
nigel h, 03 Septembre 2018

Stayed over for one night on our way through to Ayr, the hotel is lovely, rooms are clean and staff are very friendly and helpful, we had a great meal in the Bistro downstairs. The decor and furnishings in the bar could do with a refresh but that didn't deter from a great night. Breakfast is made to order and was a refreshing change from the usual buffet style breakfasts on offer. All in all highly recommended.

"One night break"
Malkie280550, 02 Septembre 2018

I booked this hotel for a last minute break to visit friends in Dumfries. On arrival the reception staff were very pleasant and ensure we knew where our room was situated on the 3rd floor. Informed that breakfast was served in the bistro which was in the basement On attending at the room it was very clean and adequately furnished for a 3 star hotel. Wi-Fi available in all areas. The towels were spotless and fluffy. I would have given this a 5 star review but for the decor being dated, especially in the bar area. The seats were well worn and the tables were scratched. Staff in the bar and bistro were again pleasant and attentive. Breakfast was the usual fare in a hotel of this standard. Hot food was cooked to order. If I stayed in the Dumfries area again I would consider rebooking this hotel

Quiet comfortable room on 2nd floor. Located short walk to town center and opposite Dumfries railway station. Breakfast was excellent and waitresses were cheerful and friendly. My wife was not impressed with the Gammon served at dinner, she described it as a ham steak. The garden area needs a lot of maintenance and could offer a very rlaxing quit place to sit in a summer evening with your favourite glass of wine

"Quirky hotel"
Moray H, 20 Août 2018

Stayed here on a golfing trip, formidable but lovely receptionist, very comfortable clean room, breakfast could be improved with better ingredients but okay. Central location, worth a stay. Bar area could do with a refurb, seats are very tatty.

"Overnight stay"
Paul1875, 14 Août 2018

I chose the Station Hotel based on location and recommendation. Overall my stay was excellent. The only negative comment was about checking in. The bedroom was very comfortable although the tea selection was very limited. The breakfast was great and the service was prompt and courteous. I felt that I got great value for money. I would recommend staying here.

"Dumfrees experience"
borebakota, 14 Août 2018

Great hotel, nice, quiet, clean, very friendly staff, food food and drinks, good value for money. Location; just across the street from the train station. Parging space available as well, town center just a few minutes away.

"Excellent Room and service"
CAP-HP, 07 Août 2018

We stayed over the weekend at the Best Western Station Hotel in Dumfries. It exceeded expectations and is very well managed. We had an executive room which was large with good comfort and facilities. The bathroom was also large and modern. Great coffee machine ! The hotel is certainly convenient for the station and a short walk into the town centre.

"Great location"
MancTeacher, 06 Août 2018

Ad you step outside of the station, here's the hotel. Ideal location and clean, nice sized rooms. And, on the whole the staff are welcoming. The place itself is very old fashioned, compared with bigger chain hotels. You witness staff being trained and told off in front of you. I witnessed a few Fawlty Towers moments and really feel that some of the staff need to be slightly more professional. I heard staff moaning about their workload to customers and a manager being rude to a member of staff in front of customers. On the plus side, the location is ideal, the beer garden is a nice sun trap, and the housekeeping staff do a brilliant job. I would stay here again, as it is what it is and there is not much competition. I just wish some.of the staff were more professional because most of them are great.

"You've gotta like a hotel located on Lovers Lane!"
cls816, 29 Juillet 2018

We stayed at the Best Western Station Hotel on our first night in Scotland. The staff welcomed us royally and the room was large. It wasn't fancy but it was clean and comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised when we went downstairs for dinner at The Bistro; the food and service were both very good. This hotel is located within an easy walk of downtown and and an easy drive to the coast.

"Weekend for two"
Halina D, 29 Juillet 2018

Very old hotel with lots of character. Lovely food. Staff very helpful. Owner very polite and knowledgeable about the area. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights and although our room was opposite the railway station it wasn't noisy. Large room with four poster bed. Most older hotels are in some need of updating which is pretty standard but it was very clean and we had a very enjoyable stay. This hotel has the best choice for breakfast we have had anywhere and our evening meals were thoroughly enjoyed by both of us.

"Nothing special"
maukatt, 26 Juillet 2018

We were invited here for dinner by my husbands brother and his partner who were staying in the hotel.I felt the food was overpriced for what it is and also there is not much choice on the menu.I had the chicken breast stuffed with wild mushroom-it was ok but a bit small. It was served with a few saute potato slices-the plate looked a bit empty.Having said that, the waitress was lovely-friendly and attentive without being over-bearing.The atmosphere was relaxed and quite calming.Everything was clean and the food was hot and well presented.I don't think i would eat here again as it was quite expensive for my budget.

"Wonderful Stay"
jimcousins1, 25 Juillet 2018

Attending a wedding and needed something central Beautiful old hotel Easy walk into the centre of Dumfries Value for money was fantastic My room was on the top floor but very clean and classically furnished The bed was clean and comfortable with a view of the Station The staff are great and the service at the bar and at breakfast was 1st class My ONLY criticism would be the cooked breakfast I tried the full Scottish on my first morning and the full English the next morning Firstly the Square sausage and the haggis lacked any flavour as did the linked sausage The bacon was over cooked on both accessions . Then we come to a classic problem Mushrooms deep fryed in heavy commercial oil. This has a distinctive and unpleasant flavour Sadly the potato scone had suffered the same treatment Station Hotel fix your breakfast and you'll have a 5 from me Great Hotel !!

"Mr cook "
Angela C, 24 Juillet 2018

I stayed overnight at the best western station hotel, as it was conveniently placed for my need. The check in and service were adequate. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to those traveling to the area. The room was comfortable but hot. The food was excellent but slow to arrive. Some staff went the extra mile to assist but the owner Aileen thinks I sent them a bad review. But I did not !

"Two nights in Dumfries "
Paul K, 20 Juillet 2018

We decided to have a couple of days in Scotland using Dumfries as a base. We chose the Station hotel because of its location, fairly close to the centre of town. The building itself is early 20th century, the sort of building I like. The rooms were comfortable with good size beds. Mine had a really nice size shower. We breakfasted in the hotel and enjoyed a substantial breakfast. The dining area is on the lower ground floor and is light and airy. There is a nice bar area on the ground floor, this is a good size and comfortable. The bar prices were reasonable and the service cheerful and very good. The staff at the hotel were excellent and as we had not been to the area before the lady on reception was extremely helpful giving ideas of where to visit. All in all we enjoyed our visit and agreed we would stay at the Station Hotel again.

"Working stat"
Sultan Y, 16 Juillet 2018

The location was good, but being right next to the railway Station, there was noise till the late hours. The photos showed an updated hotel, and it appeared older upon entering, and the room was fairly average with outdated furniture. Breakfast was good with a good variety of cereals, fruit fruit drinks & veggie breakfast. The staff were all good.

"Good base for Dumfries and Galloway"
Fergus H, 16 Juillet 2018

On a tour round the old homeland great to discover this establishment wearing well. On this occasion only an overnighter but the room was very comfortable and the food in the Courtyard restaurant was delightful. Good b&b rate so recommended for short or long stay. Hotel retains that lovely charm when rail was in its hey day.

"Discriminates against people that use Assistance Dogs"
AssistanceDogReview, 16 Juillet 2018

We booked here to stay in June. I use an Assistance Dog and when the lady at reception saw that I had my Assistance Dog she said "No Dogs Allowed" My dog was clearly identified wearing his vest and I had our identification card on me. I explained that he was an Assistance Dog but she said I don't care no dogs are allowed. I have never ever in all my travels been treated so rudely and felt so devalued as a person as this lady made me feel. She kept on saying no dogs allowed up until I handed her a brochure on Assistance Dogs & The 2010 UK Equality Act that clearly states I was being discriminated against if I was not treated the same as a person without a disability. After reading the brochure she begrudgingly let us stay but not before telling me I should have let her know when we booked. As I do not need any extra services e.g. Disability Room I'm under no obligation to let them know upon booking as I have the right to be treated the same as any member of the public. We had just been married at Gretna Green that morning so it was absolutely awful to be devalued and treated so rudely on my wedding day. It would have been okay if this lady genuinely did not know the rights of Assistance Dogs but to treat us as she did is inexcusable not to mention in very poor form as a Best Western Hotel.

"Great stay for golfers"
John C, 14 Juillet 2018

I organised a golf trip for three friends and myself in June 2018. I booked 4 rooms b&b. A few weeks prior to arrival I phoned the hotel and spoke to the owner/manager Aline (sp) and checked that they served a non-alcoholic beer in the bar for one of our party. Not only did she confirm that they did she also asked what was the preferred beer and said she would get some in, which she did. A nice touch and very typical of the kind of service you can expect from the hotel. Very comfortable rooms ( 3 out of 4 had been recently refurbished) and the food was excellent. Good position for the town centre, road network and obviously the railway station. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay, I'm sure you'll get the votefor a return trip next year!

"Lovely staff & food "
t444myj, 11 Juillet 2018

Stayed here for one night for a business trip, the staff were very friendly & helpful. Quick check in & off to my room I go. The room was dated but was a good size & has everything you need really. The bathroom was a bit disappointing , the tiredness I can cope with but it really does need a good clean! Really dusty, shower seal mouldy & hanging off. In a nutshell the rooms are older & basic. I had my evening meal here & It was really good, food cooked to perfection & service was fantastic!

"Disgusting customer services from the OWNER of the establishment (worse western)"
anorton221995, 20 Juin 2018

We entered the establishment for food after taking part in a tough mudder event on the outskirts of town and where met by an elderly lady who was very rude towards me and my friend. We had come in and spoke to her about parking we paid £5 to her because we thought we would be going elts where but instead decided to stay so I came back to the front desk and spoke to her about getting are money back because it stayed on the sign that if we were to use hotel facilities, parking was free. When I told her this she looked me up and down, huffed and wondered off to get the card machine. When I told her we had in fact paid in cash she replayed with “oh ye. The other boy gave me £5, go and get him and I will give him his money back. I then told her we were intact together so it would be ok to give the money to me due to us coming from an event and we're very tired so my friend wanted to sit down. She then replayed with “he was just here so he can't be that bad. so go get the other boy because I am not giving you his money! In a vile tone. Just before I went to go get my friend, I asked if she needed the parking permit back or if it still needed to go on my dashboard To which she snapped and said I will have that you don't need it. I gave it to her and walked away. My friend comes back to me after she giving him the money and also says that she was very rude to him also. About five minutes pass and it comes to us ordering are meal. I head up to the bar place my order and wait for the very polite bar staff to put my order through then she appeared from the front desk through to the bar and with out any hushing of the voice she openly say MAKE SURE YOU GET THE MONEY FROM THEM BEFORE THEY GET THERE FOOD! As if we was going to eat and not pay. We found this very inappropriate and embarrassing because the room wasn't completely empty of costumers and she had said it very loudly. I feel me and my friend were nothing but polite if not overly polite and do not think we deserved the service we got from non other but the owner of the establishment. The other staff were lovely and kind and had all the time in the world actually having a laugh and a joke with them but she was very rude and very unprofessional and unwelcoming. We did not want to be treated this way after a 40 minuet drive from are event we just wanted a nice meal and to relax. After are meal we actually went somewhere else to get a coffee because we didn't exactly want to spend any more money in her establishment and if she keeps greeting her customers in the same manner the. She won't have any customers left. thought It would of occurred to her that being polite is paramount when you are the first face people see on reception. Pity that the food was actually really nice and so to were the staff, all ruined by one miserable woman! BYPASS THIS BEST WESTERN BECUSE IT IS THE WORST WESTERN IVE EVER BEEN TO!

"Just as good as last time"
ages698, 17 Juin 2018

We stayed in this hotel as a stop over this time last year and decided to do the same again this year but added a night. It's a great hotel, lovely room, very helpful staff and great food at sensible prices. Highly recommend.

"Best hotel in Dumfries "
Johnramsayoliver, 17 Juin 2018

I have stayed in most but I can't recommend this little jewel of a hotel enough. Unfortunately we had an unplanned and extended stay there this month, when our Mum was taken ill, and then passed away. We will never forget how warmly we were looked after particularly by Aileen, the owner, and her team. The hotel became our oasis away from it all. It has lovely rooms , a great location, a lovely wee bar and beer garden and the best Scottish breakfast. Great value but what we will never forget is the Scottish love and care we received during our stays there. Thank you and I cannot recommend the hotel enough.

"A PLEASANT SURPRISE "
davidlittle2014, 16 Juin 2018

Dumfries is not the best town to find quality hotels, normally I stay at Sandyhill area when up for two weeks each year but as this visit was unplanned and short I opted for The Station Hotel. A great choice, I had room 37, an executive room, it was large, modern and very comfortable, bathroom excellent. Breakfast on both mornings was of a high standard be it the food and service. I would highly recommend and use again if on a short stay.

"Excellent stay."
SHEIL51, 12 Juin 2018

My sister and I travelled from Wales to visit an elderly Aunt in Kirkcudbright we stayed for 3 nights at the Station Hotel Dumfries and couldn't fault anything. We had a lovely room with tea & coffee, iron & ironing board etc. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice, we also had evening meal in the bistro which was excellent. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful and Aileen McGhie who runs the place works tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly and the hotel is a credit to her. We would definitely stay here again when visiting the area.

"Made very welcome"
kevandra60, 11 Juin 2018

Just returned from a very pleasant stay here .After a long 7 hour journey from Wales arrived to a warm welcome .Room was lovely and as there was no air conditioning were offered a fan if required.Evening meal was very good and great choice at breakfast. All the serving staff were very friendly and helpful as was proprietor Aileen who always enquired after our day and provided map directions to help us get around. Will definitely stay here again .

"Enjoyable overnight stay."
Lance1200, 18 Mai 2018

Stopped off here for one night on the way to the highlands. Great, old but nicely refurbished building, lots of character and well located within the town, with parking. Reception staff helpful and welcoming, quick check in. Room was very nice and very clean. Ate in the hotel restaurant, service was very good and the food was nice, reasonably priced too! Bar area was quiet, but decent. Breakfast was good too. Only minor gripe, and not the hotels fault, it's was quite noisy around 11-12pm at the bus stop opposite. All was well again once the bus arrived ??. Nonetheless, have noted this for another stop over when visiting Scotland.

"NICE SUNNY GARDEN"
Kevin S, 13 Mai 2018

My wife and I stopped for a drink on the way back to the train, nice garden,£8 for 2 pints, hotel prices! The hotel was very quiet, late afternoon,no bar staff when we went in,but a quick word at reception, and somebody soon came to serve our drinks. Nice friendly staff.Would visit again,on our next trip to Dumfries. We have even looked at staying over, some time in the future.

"A rather nice hotel"
Ratherbebiking, 06 Mai 2018

I stayed here for two nights on a short trip to Dumfries and Galloway and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The hotel is very conveniently located with easy access to the main roads into Dumfries and, as the name indicates, is immediately adjacent to the Dumfries Railway Station. Parking was good - lots of spaces right outside during my stay. It is barely a 5 minute walk from the hotel into town. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming, my room was spotless, spacious, superbly well-equipped and comfortable. I enjoyed breakfast which was cooked to order and I ate in the restaurant on one evening. An excellent menu is available with a daily “menu of the day” to supplement the regular choices. The restaurant was quiet, but the service was attentive, prompt and without fuss or rush. The guinea fowl on mash and haggis with parsnip chips hit the spot for me. There was a reasonable choice of wine with sufficient options “by the glass” which suited me. Prices were very reasonable, I thought. A comfortable lounge is available to guests; which I didn't use. There is, of course, a well stocked bar; which I did use. I recommend this hotel and would return when next in the area.

" Very good "
Graham P, 29 Avril 2018

We stayed for one night and thought I have not been sleeping to well I had a great nights sleep in the large bed. No fighting for space in that. Good quality breakfast and the view from the hotel is lovely. There is parking available, plenty of space on our night. A couple of things to bear in mind. The stairs to upper floors are steep and if you go into some sites it will say you are only two miles from festival theatre but it's further away. A good hotel and service from the attentive staff. If staying this area again I would definitely try to book in here first.

"Stayed many times"
Glyn A, 12 Avril 2018

I have stayed here many times over the years and always found it to be a lovely place to relax. Would always stay there again. It's welcoming and friendly staff are always ready to help you out. With good food and lovely rooms

"Unwelcoming"
Sandy S, 11 Avril 2018

Went to the bar for a pub lunch (fish and chips etc - quite acceptable). On entry, woman at reception looks at my companion and me, and simply says “yes?” “Lunch for two, please” “This way” pointing to bar. Reappears behind bar counter. Reals out “today's specials” and then says, “menus are over there”, pointing to a table. Meal arrives reasonably quickly - the place is empty. My friend asks for another round of drinks (she was asked to open a ‘tab' & has his credit card as a guarantee) “I can't bring them to you. I'm too busy. You'll have to come to the bar.” Then time to settle the bill. “My portable payment machine (or words to that effect) isn't working. You'll have to pay at the bar” Putting in his PIN, I try to start a conversation. She: “if you don't mind, I'm concentrating on this” We left. Now, this was a one woman show - reception, bar tender, waitress - so I guess they were understaffed, and she was stressed, but surely in the hospitality industry, a little bit of better customer relations would be too much to ask. Won't be back.

"Traditional hotel in a good location"
C0astalWalker, 09 Avril 2018

I chose this hotel as it is close to the railway station and I travelled to the area by train so I knew I would not have far to go! First impressions are good, as it's an attractive building right opposite the station. I believe there is also free car parking if you come by car, so transport links are good. All the staff I encountered in the main hotel and restaurant were friendly and welcoming. Check in was efficient. The room was clean and a good size with everything I needed and there was secondary glazing so it is quiet inside the room. Free Wifi and Freeview TV, tea, coffee etc in the room too and shortbread biscuits which is always welcome! Room service is also available. I liked the food in the restaurant and breakfast was good, with the hot food cooked to order and a buffet for the rest. It does not start until 8am at weekends however, though I think you can have a cold breakfast earlier. The restaurant seems part underground though, so there is not much natural light in there (the upstairs "garden room" looked nice but food does not seem to be offered there). I would (and probably will) stay here again.

"Worst customer service experience EVER"
Rachel M, 30 Mars 2018

I would highly recommend NOT visiting here. The owner really lets the place down and is a disgrace to the hospitality industry. I've never been treated in such a disrespectful, hostile way. Very unwelcoming, very rude.

"Great hotel yards from the railway station"
David H, 20 Mars 2018

I chose this hotel because you come out of the railway station and cross the road to the hotel. Also it is just 10 minutes walk to the town centre or there are plenty of buses. My room was very comfortable, the meals were excellent and good value, and the service also excellent, with very friendly staff.

"Fine for a night"
wcgibbons, 20 Mars 2018

The location is excellent, as I was getting the train to the town and the hotel is right beside the station. The room itself was clean, and a weird mixture of old and modern. The en suite was a good size, but did not have any of the modernity of the bedroom. The bed was a very good size, and it was comfortable. The curtains were heavy enough to do a good job of blocking out the early morning light. The bar was okay, not a massive choice on tap, but okay. It wasn't exactly a hopping spot, but I wasn't after that anyway. The lady at reception also ran the bar, and she was very friendly. Breakfast was good, with a small buffet and a hot menu on offer. As usual, the breakfast coffee was standard fare and not as good as a decent americano. Would stay again if I happened to have business in Dumfries again.

"Nightmare"
Maisie H, 16 Mars 2018

Rude obnoxious owner. Argued when I informed her that I couldn't eat the food. I had tried to call reception with no answer, basically called a liar, she said food would be rubbery left in room overnight, had food been edible I would have ate it and not left it! Room cold, radiator wouldn't turn up. Definitely would not stay here again. Owner really is something else.

"Good hotel for a couple of nights"
Marc H, 07 Mars 2018

I stayed over at the Best Western over the summer as somewhere to stop over for a couple of nights while I did Tough Mudder Scotland. The hotel itself is quite dated - the lift was terrifying to use each time - but it was a perfectly comfortable stay. The rooms are a great size and felt warm. The weekend we stayed was the same weekend that Dumfries holds some kind of parade so it was pretty busy which meant that parking was a bit of an issue. There are parking spaces in front of the hotel but these were all taken on the Saturday, presumably by people who were there just for the celebrations. The staff were perfectly friendly. They even did us a packed lunch on the Saturday morning as we had to be up early and at Drumlanrig Castle before breakfast was being served. That was a lovely touch! If the hotel had a bit of a refurb (and more strict controls on their parking bays) then it would be absolutely ideal. I just feel that these little things did let it down slightly.

"Excellent stay"
Dawnrey, 25 Février 2018

We had a great stay here . Lovely rooms we stayed in the superior rooms which were big. Staff very attentative and we really enjoyed the bar area. We certainly didn't hear any noise from the station next door.

"Disgusting Customer Service/Management"
sarahmushet, 12 Février 2018

Visited her on Friday the 9th where we met my sister off of the train after she travelled up from London and got off at the Dumfries station, directly outside. We received a warm welcome and delicious meal. My sister returned to London today, so after such a good experience we returned at 12:30pm today. Her train was at 1:00pm, so after entering and asking to be seated for lunch and using the lavatories, we began to discuss whether or not to sit for a drink or get lunch like we had on Friday. Throughout this time, we had a member of staff follow us up and down the hall - shouting at my dad that he wasn't alllowed to use the facilities before dumping menus on the table and stating 'i'll deal with you when i have time'. A stark contrast to our previous visit. After the hostile welcome, we then decided to leave and spend our money elsewhere, when we were then followed again to the door - asking for a donation to be made for the use of toilets. We explained we were more than willing to pay for a meal, but her service was the exact reason we refused to stay. She then referred to us as cheapskates who wouldn't even donate to charity (which we do every month). Disgusting woman who needs a reality check about how vile her behaviour is, despite working in hospitality.

"Horror of a woman !!"
lisamushet, 12 Février 2018

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here on Friday 9/2 after meeting my daughter off the train from London. Friendly staff and good food to set us up for our weekend in Kirkcudbright. On returning on Monday before the train to London our experience could not have been more difficult. On arrival we spoke to reception to let them know we were in for lunch, family of 5. “No problem the bar is round to the left” All at once a woman I can only describe as Mrs Trunchbull arrived like a whirlwind angry bear chewing a wasp. Yes we had gone to the toilet before lunch, with Mrs Trunchbull following us all around like she was on a mission, and sat at a table ready to order some lunch. Menus were given to us and we were told, “ I'll get back to you when I can” on her way out. As we sat in total disbelief at her attitude towards us we decided to leave not feeling in the least bit welcome, Mrs Trunchbull, who we later found out was Mrs Mcghee, then proceeded to chase us demanding a donation for charity for using her toilets. We explained we were leaving because of her and her bad attitude making us feel so uneasy ( such a difference to Friday) to which we were called “cheapskates” who won't give to charity. An absolutely abhorrent disgusting woman who gives this Hotel such a bad negative attitude. My family and I can only sympathise with the staff who have to work alongside this person. Totally ruined the end of our weekend we definitely will not be back, but take some happiness from the fact she hates her job. ?? It will be interesting to see if any responses or apologies are given.

"Decent"
JohnEdwinI, 08 Février 2018

A fine hotel with some history behind it. Yes it is next to the Railway Station and it is an old building but it was not noisy and it's not falling down!! The bar and bistro restaurant have been modernised and the staff were great. Just on the edge of the town centre and only 5 minutes walk away. My room was actually a bit too warm!

"Well placed hotel for a stop over."
234crevette, 31 Janvier 2018

Stayed recently to attend a meeting near by. Although the hotel inside is looking a little dated and tired, overall it was a pleasant stay. I had a single room which as you would expect in a hotel of this age to be quite a big room although very plain. ( a picture on the wall would go a long way to brighten the room up). I ate out at night so did not sample the food except for the breakfast where the bacon and sausage were cold even though we were the first guest to eat that morning which is a little worrying. Great value for money in what would have been a great hotel in the 70's.

"A hotel which gives you a cuddle"
Voxpopbob, 31 Janvier 2018

This was a one night stopover. I chose the hotel because it was near to where I was working. This is an old fashioned Station Hotel, a bit like an ageing dowager who's no longer in the first flush of youth. BUT I enjoyed my stay hugely. For me the charm of the place was that it's not some sterile minimalist establishment. It's cosy and welcoming. The bar was warm and comfortable and just the kind of place I wanted to relax in after what was a full on day. I had a very good meal in the bistro and a terrific full Scottish breakfast next morning. I got the sense it was freshly cooked to order and didn't seem to have been lurking under the hot lamps to keep it warm. My room - a single on the third floor (41) - was clean, very comfortable. In fact it was bigger than some double rooms I've stayed in. The en suite was immaculately clean. The staff were first class and couldn't have been more helpful. I'm sure other contributors may think the place needs a bit of an upgrade - but for me that might spoil the charm of the hotel. I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I have another stopover in Dumfries.

"no Heating in bedroom in minus zero temperatures"
anniebarr, 10 Décembre 2017

Hi I have had to check out early from this hotel as there was no heating in the bedroom. We did complain. And we're given an electric heater but wAs not much use As room was still freezing. Also the dining room for breakfast was freezing and only had one heater for the whole room. As I have just recovered from a bad case of flu I was not prepared to risk catching flu again. We have had to cut our stay from two nights to one night for this reason. and extremely disappointed

"DISABLED FRIENDLY"
robertcockburn230, 07 Décembre 2017

I asked for a room with a walk-in shower due to mobility problems which is what i got it also had a king sized double bed .the furniture was in mid oak The panasonic TV was at the right height to view from the bed with out getting a crick in the neck i had a full English breakfast 2 days in a row ,cooked to order 7 served on a hot plate for dinner i had deep fried king prawn followed by a very tasty sirloin steak. On the second night i had the Christmas menu of prawn cocktail Succulent roast beef with all the trimmings then Individual Christmas pudding all washed down with a very palletable shiraz i had my pavement mobility scooter which I could bring into the hotel by the rear entrance It fitted into the lift 7 i was able to re-charge the battery fro a 13amp plug in my room

"Excellent two night stay in Dumfries"
richardtR1354NK, 29 Novembre 2017

We were VERY pleasantly surprised by every aspect of our stay at this centrally located hotel in Dumfries. Unless it had been on the platform, it could not have been more convenient for the railway station. 10 minute stroll to the town centre. Fabulous service from staff in all departments. Great, spacious room. Super and plentiful breakfast. Very nice dinner, served well. Quite inexpensive all round. Would we stay again .........WITHOUT DOUBT

"Business Trip x 2"
DavidJ1953, 21 Novembre 2017

I used the Station Hotel for 2 x 2-night stays in October and am happy I did. Aileen, the owner, and all of her staff - especially Marilyn and Pamela, could not have been more helpful or welcoming and I'm quite surprised at some of the comments made by other reviewers. Had a corner room (#10 I think) on the first floor which was clean, quiet and comfortable - just what's required after a hard days work. The bar is quaint (served the best G&T I've had for a long time) and the restaurant served up superb food, be it at breakfast or dinner. There are several other hotels in Dumfries that I could have chosen - some cheaper and some less so. I dare say some may even be that bit more luxurious and comfortable. However if and when I need to stay again in Dumfries, I'll be choosing the Station Hotel once more. Thanks Aileen and all your staff for making what had been a hard few days that bit more relaxing after working hours. Hope to meet you all again.

"Warm welcome"
fatyorkie74, 20 Novembre 2017

Stayed for a business trip, staff were great, very helpful and made me feel very welcome. Hotel manager went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. Ate in the restaurant on the evening and had a very nice steak at a very reasonable price. I will be back without doubt.

"Comfortable & Clean"
Annielou11, 13 Novembre 2017

Had a single night stop over here. Great location beside the railway station. The room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable. The bed was huge! Despite being beside the station in was very quiet, Parking was limited, but we had no problem. Staff were friendly and courteous. Breakfast as you would expect. Reception are a little dated but that fits with the character of the building. Would definitely use again.

"Nice Rooms But They Need a Lesson Hospitality"
Pbshanahan, 30 Octobre 2017

We had a nice room but there woman who is on reception is not courteous. When we wanted to check out at 10:00 pm as we were leaving very early the next morning, her response was she had “closed the accounts for the day”! Then she went on to tell us she is not a big hotel. We asked how long a drive to the Glasgow airport - she replied she did not know! Then we asked for a gas station near by - she replied she did not know. The very poor reception left a bad taste on our mouth.

"A stop over"
ellie-may2008, 24 Octobre 2017

For a rare night away, we stayed at this hotel, closing this due to the price and the location. Having read some of the reviews, we agreed that the hotel was an old building with some lovely period features. However some areas were needing to be refreshed. Our room was a nice size, basically furnished. The ensuite shower room was surprisingly large, and looked recently updated. However the shower tray had a dark ring around the grouting. We only used the restaurant for breakfast, choosing the continental rather than the full Scottish. We found the choice of food limited even for a continental breakfast, when questioning if there were rolls or pastries, we were told we had ordered toast, rolls and pastries had to be ordered. We had only been offered toast. We did find the staff very pleasant at all times.

"great Hotel close to town centre"

"Lovely stay"

This is our second day of three and cannot fault the place. We ate here last night and the food was excellent and great value. The facilities are very good with wifi and information to help plan our visits around the area.

"Clifton's "
Brent C, 02 Octobre 2017

We really liked this hotel because the staff went out of their way to meet any desire you had (like coffee in the lobby before anything is open and your wife is still sleeping). We also had a good breakfast, a nice walk around the town, relaxing at the Costa Coffee Shop and a visit to the church next to the hotel.

"Friendly and well run hotel"
JADAVIS, 25 Septembre 2017

I visited with three other family members for a weekend and we each booked a compact double room. All rooms were spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds and we had no complaints. Although the hotel is a few metres from the railway station, we didn't experience any noise that disturbed us. We ate in the Bistro one evening and had an excellent meal - huge portions! Breakfast was buffet when we were there but I think when it's quieter, cooked breakfast is made to order. The staff were all so efficient, friendly and helpful - a real credit to the owner - Eileen (I think!). I don't understand the review from the couple who complained about her as she was very friendly and helpful towards us. It's an old hotel with original features and yes, some areas could do with a bit of a refurb but we saw past that due to the excellent staff and service which we received. Thank you for working so hard !

"Stay at Station Hotel Dumfries."
Jennifer W, 16 Septembre 2017

Was not made welcome at all on arrival by the owner. She was on her computer turned around and said checkin is not until two. No words of welcome at all. We were quite happy to come back which we did. Our daughter had booked us in on line as a gift. So we werent sure whether it was booked on her name or ours. She handed my husband a form to sign and said sign here if this is who you are. It made me feel as if i had stole someones husband for the week. As we were going to have a glass of wine in our room the owner charged us two pounds for a jug of ice . Later our phone in the room rung the owner informing us we had to move our car as it was taking up two spaces. We went down and there was a row of perfectly parked cars including ours. When we returned to the hotel she wasnt around. The next morning she never spoke as we left to go out. When our stay was over she was not at reception so just left keys on desk. This has been the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and we certainly will not be back Terrible experience.

"Lovely short stay"
Evesgirl, 11 Septembre 2017

Stayed here for a very comfortable couple of nights. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and our room was large, clean, with a really comfy and large bed and the shower room was also fresh, clean and modern. Unfortunately we didn't sample dinner here but the breakfasts were delicious and really efficiently served.

"Business trip to Dumfries"
Grant D, 08 Septembre 2017

From the very start, The Station hotel's staff are all extremely welcoming and friendly providing the guests with excellent service. The rooms are great value and presented to a good standard allowing for a comfortable well rested stay. The hotel bistro's menu offers a wide choice and cannot be faulted - great tasting dishes!

"Peaceful delight."
Stuart F, 04 Septembre 2017

This was our second visit to Dumfries and the first staying at the Station Hotel, on arrival I was impressed by the imposing Building which was only to be expected as it was constructed in the 1890`s by the local Railway Company. We were greeted by Uniformed and very friendly Staff who all wore name tags. The whole building, including our bedroom was tastefully decorated and had a `warm friendly feeling`. The bedroom was large, well furnished and the bed extremely comfortable, All the usually amenities were on offer, tea/coffee maker and kettle, free wifi and well stocked complementary toiletries in the bathroom etc. The bathroom also had a Jacuzzi bath with shower, which I found very invigorating for an evening soak before Dinner. The breakfasts were excellent with a full choice of menu. We did dine `in` on a number of occasions in the Evening and again found the food to be excellent and a varied menu to choose from. The steaks were out of this world and fully recommended. The location only about a 5 minute walk from the Town Centre and with ample car-parking is ideally suited for touring the area.

"Great place to stay!"
davidaB8918ID, 03 Septembre 2017

A great hotel with lots of character in a great location - ideal for Dumfries town centre and for touring the surrounding area. All staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. Clean rooms with nice comfy beds. Great food. Great value.

"Nice old building kept up well"
Kermit403, 02 Septembre 2017

We were received in an incredibly friendly way when we checked in and were given a map with a mini tour outlined for us by the staff member...who it seemed never left the desk in the entire time we were there! The building is quite old and some of the services can be a bit slow, including the lift, but that adds character to an already interesting building. We used the stairs for most of our trips in and out and they are nice and wide and the rise/run is nice and comfortable. The Station is in a nice location with a short walk to Burns House and the Kirkyard where his Mausoleum is located as well as the downtown area, where I wandered around. I recommend this location when in the Dumfries area, and would return quite happily.

"Lovely hotel, great staff, perfect location"
maryagna, 30 Août 2017

I recently visited Dumfries on business and stayed at the Station Hotel. Staff are very nice and helpful, very welcoming. The rooms are a very good size, very clean and the bed super comfortable. The hotel is close to the station and to the town centre, so whether you're visiting for pleasure or business, it's perfect. Breakfast is also excellent and I am only sorry I did not get to have lunch or dinner at the bistro.

"Great place to stay"
ages698, 26 Août 2017

Everything, brilliant hotel. Nothing was to much trouble. The restaurant was wonderful and breakfast great. There was nothing we could find wrong and would very highly recommend this hotel. We will definitely go back next year.

"Courtyard Bistro a good choice for those staying elsewhere"
Carolyn B, 25 Août 2017

The restaurant in the hotel, Courtyard Bistro, is an excellent choice for travelers staying at other local B&Bs and looking for a tasty dinner. I heard about it from other tourists and was happy to find fine dining at a moderate price without having to walk into town. I had the smoked fish -- cold-smoked and hot-smoked salmon as well as mackerel.

"Decent room and good food"
Richard M, 23 Août 2017

Stayed here for 1 night. Decent sized room with a comfy bed. Decor was fine, bathroom etc clean. The hall way was fine aswell neatly decorated but a bad smell for some reason, really unpleasant. Breakfast was good, evening meal fine but i thought more should have been on offer maybe? Location good, over the road from trainstation and 10mins walk into town. Overall a reasonable stay for 10 hours. 105 quid b&b. Would stay again for work if required.

"Old world comfort"
skitraveller-1, 19 Août 2017

"Grand Hotel"
gailbR1628BR, 19 Août 2017

Beautiful old world hotel, with modern updated rooms. All needs met. Clean . Go with breakfast option, very good. Staff very helpful. Easy walking distance to town. Railway station across the road. Great option for visitors without car.

"Deplorable"
Goldsmith007, 09 Août 2017

I entered cocktail bar 12.15 pm and it was 12.50 pm before the staff member appeared. I think her gossiping at front desk was more important than serving her customers. I ordered the Cullen Skink ( big mistake) it was like dish water and really a tiny bowl of only potato soup. This place is tired and dated needs a complete refurbishment as it's not fit for purpose. I remain bitterly disappointed.

"Nice place, nice location"
CJohengen, 01 Août 2017

It was fun to stay in a classic railroad hotel that has been spruced up and modernized. The room and especially the bathroom were a little bit small, but the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was cleverly arranged. We enjoyed walking around the city, and the hotel was conveniently away from much noise and surrounded by a nicer neighborhood of Victorian houses. We got a good night's sleep, and breakfast in the bistro was nice.

"This is a Good Hotel in a Handy Location."
justroving, 16 Juillet 2017

Just spent a couple of nights here in a king bed room. The room was clean and spacious with a nice shower room. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. As mentioned in other reviews the building is old but the décor is modern and tasteful. Staff were very friendly and efficient in all areas of the hotel. We ate in the bistro on two occasions and the food was good and reasonably priced. We had no problem parking our car outside the door. All in all a very enjoyable stay and yes, we would stay again if visiting the area.

A wonderful hotel fantastic friendly staff. Beautiful room.Amazing menu the haggis neeps and taties is an amazing meal. The staff took us in with no warning one of the best hotels I have used the Scottish know how to make you feel welcome

"Two night relaxing break"
sheila20162016, 09 Juillet 2017

No negative issues with any aspect of the hotel. True it does require TLC in some areas but nothing to detract from the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Food was tasty and would recommend smoked haddock and poached egg at breakfast. Our room was light and spacious with good WiFi and both hairdryer and iron available. Enjoyed the gardens and outdoor seating area. The hotel is very convenient for rail travel and within easy walking distance into the town centre. Would definitely visit again.

"Not bad"
sjb11077011, 30 Juin 2017

Stayed one night for Tough Mudder. Was a pleasant enough hotel with helpful staff. We were aware of others staying here that were taking part in TM and were up early in the morning. Unfortunately breakfast didn't start until 8am and we were having to leave at half 6/7ish. The hotel could have offered a breakfast of sorts which would have resulted in them making money and having happier guests. Was a shame they didn't. Signed up for next year but will have to look at alternative accommodation which is unfortunate as it was quite a nice place to stay

"Very Comfortable and Pleasant Stay"
Peter K, 26 Juin 2017

My wife and I stayed on a Saturday night - just for one night and with breakfast. The room was spacious and well fitted out with tea making facilities, clean comfortable beds, TV and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space although this wasn't particularly critical for us on a one night stay. The bathroom was spacious and was equipped with nice towels together with both a shampoo and a body wash although a small bar of soap for the wash hand basin would have been appreciated. As you might expect the hotel is adjacent to the train station so there was a bit of noise outside when the Saturday night revelers returned but this wasn't overly intrusive. The free Wifi was good. Parking was problematic as there were no spaces when we returned to the hotel at 09.00 at night and I'd to park at the station car park, but fortunately this didn't give rise to any extra cost or a fine. We went for the cooked breakfast which was very good and there was plenty of variety on offer. Bottom line - we'd use the hotel again.

"Very good hotel, with a foot in the past"
Ken R, 15 Juin 2017

The rooms have a modern hotel feel, set within a very traditional building. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, and the location for Dumfries was pretty good too. Parking is excellent, between the hotel and the train station. Had no noise from the trains at all and the wi-fi was free and good.

"Very Friendly Staff"
Pat S, 06 Juin 2017

We have just returned from spending 4 nights bed, breakfast and evening meal at the Station Hotel and we were very impressed with the standard of meals served. There was a good choice served at all meals. We were a group of 31 people. All RSPB members and I believe we were all very happy with everything. The rooms and the dining. The staff were extremely friendly. If we returned to this area I would certainly stay at this hotel again.

"Really good lunch"

"Overnight stop"
ricksplace, 17 Mai 2017

This lovely Victorian hotel was very welcoming and the staff were very helpful, the owner Aileen McGee was on the reception desk and she was very friendly , we were in Dumfries visiting a relative in hospital and weren't sure when we could get back for an evening meal. Aileen suggested we phone and she would sort something out for us if required, our rooms were like the rest of the hotel very clean and well presented, the beds were comfortable and so were the pillows I had a good nights sleep. The breakfast was very well cooked and nice and hot, the breakfast menu was extensive with plenty for every diet. The staff were pleasant and efficient a really great experience across the board and at a good price.. Will definitely be back to this hotel.

"Lovely stay. Can't wait to visit again"
Bec R, 16 Mai 2017

I visited a sick relative for the weekend and booked 2 rooms (one for me and one for my mum) at this gorgeous Victorian Hotel. We were welcomed by the Owner Aileen and receptionist Rebecca who were extremely helpful and made us feel at home. The hotel was clean and tidy and the beds were so comfortable we slept like logs. The staff went out of their way at breakfast to make sure we were served quickly with a gorgeous full English which was beautiful. The buffet style continental breakfast looked lovely too. Really great location with comfortable clean rooms and we can not wait to stay again.

"Another good stopover"
Ann J, 08 Mai 2017

We stayed for one night to break our journey to Port Patrick. We were made very welcome by the owner when we arrived several hours early. We were told it wasn't a problem to park the car while we went into town . Our room was spacious, very clean and a good selection on the courtesy tray. We had an enjoyable meal in the evening and the two staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast next morning was fine.

"Lovely stay"
Laurie L, 07 Mai 2017

My partner and I were booked in to stay the night here as we were attending a family wedding at a hotel outside of Dumfries. We contacted the hotel the day before to explain that we might need to arrive a little early to check in. When we arrived they had everything all ready for us which was so helpful and allowed us to get ready in our room before departing for the wedding. The room was great, with everything we needed. The hotel itself had a lovely atmosphere and character. We parked our car right outside and there was ample spaces. A lovely stay, will be back again.

"Friendly and Convenient Hotel"
Jimmuswell, 07 Mai 2017

This is a lovely traditional Railway Hotel conveniently next to Dumfries Station. It is only a 10 minute stroll from here into the centre of town. We stayed for 3 nights over a long weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was perfectly adequate for our needs and although it overlooked the station, we didn't hear a single train. There are several public areas to chill out in from the lounge, the bar, downstairs restaurant and the garden. There was a good selection of food for breakfast including Full English, and Full Scottish. We had thought about looking for local restaurants for dinner, but having tried the Hotel Restaurant on the first night, we ate there every night. The food is very good with different menu each night. We will definitely stay here again if in the area.

"Fine enough hotel, shame about the attitude of the owner."
Working_away_claire, 21 Avril 2017

Starting with the positives.......... There was plenty parking outside the hotel and right next to the train station. Rooms were adequate for the price paid and very clean although slightly outdated. Good water pressure from shower. Wifi was speedy enough and plenty channels on the freeview TV. Hostess tray was well stocked and replenished daily. Breakfast food was OK, nothing spectacular, but this was more than compensated for by the very friendly and helpful waiting staff. Evening meal on the one night we dined was delicious - big portion, well cooked and served in a reasonable time. Less positives....... Single glazed windows allow lots of noise from passengers waiting on trains and buses at front of hotel, although I was offered earplugs at reception I can't sleep with these in. It was quite difficult to maintain a steady temperature in the room as lobby heating was full blast and it was too noisy to keep window open. Check in was not quick, this was the owner, and although we were not in a hurry, it would have been nice to feel welcomed and less like we were waiting on the head mistress to reprimand us. We tried small talk, it didn't work! A smile, even a joke costs nothing and goes a long way. Staying three nights and would usually eat in hotel for convenience - attitude of owner seemed to infer on the first night that they were not very busy and that the restaurant couldn't be bothered serving, so we dined out and were given a piercing look as we exited the hotel. Second evening we decided to dine in the hotel, the place seemed quiet but were met at the bar with the owner with a bit of an attitude informing us they were busy and we should have booked a table. Went down to the restaurant to be informed there would only be a short delay, 15-20min, and we were very welcome to take a table. Owner advised us " I hope it's not fast food you're after!" What a cheek! Obviously working folk weren't viewed as having high enough standards. Food and staff were excellent and from initial confrontation to back to rooms was around 45min -no problems there! Third night we dined out, we were not going to be spoken to like that again. Overall I would say the hotel is OK, but unfortunately is let down by the unwelcoming attitude of the owner. We will not be back and would not advise colleagues to use this hotel either.

"Super personal service!"
John D, 11 Avril 2017

My wife and myself recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in March and chose to have it here. From the planning stage through to the evening itself we had the best support and advice from Aileen the owner. We pre-booked our meal for 30 guests and Aileen took care of our welcome drinks. We dined in the Pullman Room and it was delightful. The food was splendid and the service by waiting staff was excellent. After the meal we spent the rest of the evening with our family and friends in the lounge bar. We will return here for future family occasions. Thank you so much!

"All aspects first class"
Avaser, 03 Avril 2017

This grand and attractive hotel was the base for our wedding anniversary and our stay was simply first class. The building retained much of its historical character while providing quality modern facilities. Our room was beautifully appointed and spacious. The dinner was excellent and all staff had a cheery and helpful attitude which created a warming and relaxed atmosphere. Both the cost of the evening meal and our stay in general were considered excellent value. All round, it is hard to see how we could have enjoyed our stay more. First class.

"Mr T. Kelly"
Katie L, 03 Avril 2017

This is an amazing Hotel beautifully kept lovely spacious comfortable room. The food was excellent and the staff very polite and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. The Great Western is a very old hotel but beautiful and full of character. The owner is in the process of sympathetically restoring this beautiful building. The Hotel is only about five minutes from the lovely town centre. There are lots of interesting places to visit locally.

"A most welcome stay!"
Becky T, 03 Avril 2017

Stayed here for two nights for a dear friend's wedding. Hotel was instantly beautiful, perfect balance maintained between the history of the building and modern functionality. Our room - 23 - was very generously proportioned with a massive comfortable bed and big sunny window. A clean, modern bathroom lies off a mini hallway within the room. Fab inclusive wifi, a big internet ready TV and plugs beside bedside tables for charging phones were all duly noted and appreciated. The TV also has HDMI points so you can plug whatever you want into it! The breakfast room was open and airy, service was very fast and the breakfast buffet had all you needed to set you up.for your day. A special mention has to go out to the lovely proprietor who not only was very welcoming but accommodated me when having a dress for the wedding delivered there and also provided us with all the help and support we could need when waiting for our train after checkout etc. We did find the room very warm however as soon as we mentioned this we were brought a fan which really helped. This would definitely be my first port of call next time I stay in Dumfries!

"Two night stay"
maureen b, 31 Mars 2017

Staff at his hotel very friendly and welcoming, we eat both evenings in the restaurant food was excellent and very good value. Car parking right outside hotel and free. Our room was clean and spacious the only problem was heating was switched off both evening in our room we reported it at reception who said it may be off in boiler room although the rest of the hotel was so warm, and second morning we had no running hot water which was a problem as we needed an early start. Only gave 4/5 for the above reason

"BIRTHDAY WKND"
Baz1875, 28 Novembre 2016

Stayed here sat 26th November executive room , outstanding with coffee machine , lovely big room , huge bed and nice selection for breakfast , evening meal was lovely and service second to none , hotel was quiet which is perfect for relaxing , staff were friendly , and hotel was walking distance from centre of town , would recommend for a nice trip away.

"Great Value Weekend Break"
NorrieR44, 09 Novembre 2016

The Station Hotel is a large traditional hotel with the very attractive addition of a large modern conservatory Bistro & Beer Garden. Rooms are large and have undergone a makeover with flatscreen tv, iron/ironing board, tea/coffee making facilities. The bed, described online as King Size was clearly Super-King and extremely comfortable with a choice of firm/soft pillows. All areas of the hotel were extremely clean and the staff friendly and efficient. Ample free car parking, free wifi and a great location make this an ideal venue for a visit to Dumfries. Breakfast, included, was very good with a wide selection to choose from. Trying to search for a negative comment the only minor criticism was that the shower wasn't the most powerful. However, I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

"Excellent service"
Nicola L, 05 Novembre 2016

I have been staying here on and off for work over last week and will be doing so until December! And I have to say my first week has been excellent! Staff are wonderful, very polite and helpful! Nothing is too much trouble! From storing my bags before/after I check in/out while I am work, to filling my travel mug with tea for my chilly walk to upgrading my room free of charge! My meals here have been lovely too! Great food and good service from everyone in Bistro! ??

"Good location & good breakfast"
Porky57, 27 Octobre 2016

This is a large traditional hotel with convenient parking. Room 14 was spacious with brown carpet, 8 pieces of matching dark brown furniture, nice winged chair, fresh pleasant curtains and cushions.Unfortunately the overall feel of the room though was not very uplifting despite, I guess, being recently updated. The bathroom was adequate with an excellent shower but needed attention to the paintwork. We ate in the hotel's bistro which was nicely appointed (except the mirrors were dusty and needed attention). Our waiters James and Louise were very attentive and helpful. The food was very good and cost £52 for 3 courses for 2 people including half a bottle of wine. Extensive choice for breakfast and delicious Scottish breakfast.

"Surprised"
Douglas R, 23 Octobre 2016

I've had friends and family stay here before and not really rave about it. I found it to be a decent price, the room was clean and the bed very comfortable. It is a bit old fashioned and bathrooms could do with an update but they workded and were functional. On top of this parking right outside the front door, which is a huge plus for me. Def top of my list for Dumfries stays now.

"overnight visit"
Jennifer C, 23 Octobre 2016

We were visiting the area so choose this hotel for its convenience. Plenty of car parking places outside the hotel. The lady on reception was lovely and very helpful. Upon arriving in our room we kind of thought we'd arrived in a nursing home - very old fashioned. But it was clean and beds were comfortable apart from having a wall light directly above the bed which I kept banging my head on. Bathroom had everything we needed. The room was nice and warm TV was good sized. We booked for evening meal which was delicious lovely waiter's, very pleasant evening. Heard no noise during the night so we slept well. Breakfast was OK. If we were returning to this part of Scotland we would consider staying here again.

"A Gem of a hotel, an oldie but a goodie."
Elaine P, 20 Octobre 2016

Very conveniently situated across from Dumfries train station. Ample parking right outside. The full Scottish breakfast was excellent. All the staff were friendly but the reception staff in particular were extremely helpful. Would have no hesitation in staying there again.

"Very Poor"
Nansi A, 13 Octobre 2016

Stopped here for lunch and was very disappointed with choice and quality. Ordered prawn sandwich which was served on the cheapest bread imaginable, prawns were like rubber and marie rose sauce was watery, friend ordered bacon, brie and caramelized onion toasted baguette (they choose to call it something else) bacon obviously had been re heated, couldn't see much sign of brie. Coffee was tepid and it seemed such an effort for the girl to make it.

"BLUE BONNETS"
craigiema, 11 Octobre 2016

this is an old but great hotel, friendly staff, ample parking, clean room, excellent choice of breakfast, good views over town, nice and quiet at night, all in all a great experience, once you find it!

"A hotel like its should be"
TGG84, 07 Octobre 2016

This is a great hotel that still has traditional values and standards. It is friendly and warm in character and all the staff continue that theme throughout. Firstly reception is very friendly and efficient(both my pre stay requests honoured), you felt valued as a guest which is rare in lots of hotels. The room was spotlessly clean with one of the best stocked tea/coffee/chocolate trays ever(shortbread included!!). It was replenished fully daily. We were given maps and advice of the town freely despite a well stocked and nice bar on site. The best discovery for us was the Courtyard Bistro, which is downstairs but really pleasant with great staff and amazing food. We were unsure where to eat on the Saturday but after checking the menu it was obvious!! We had two outstanding meals and for the quality, very cheap. There is a great emphasis on local produce which normally comes with large pound signs, not here. We both had local salmon in two different dishes, both were excellent and would put many restaurants to shame. The starters too were great and so was my cheeseboard. The evening was rounded off in the pleasant well stocked bar. This hotel ticked all my expectations and more, if we do go back to Dumfries, save me a room. Thoroughly recommended.

"Queen of the South"
MH4Z, 06 Octobre 2016

One night business overnighter. Billeted in one of the big spacey Exec rooms on floor 1. I've stayed at places all over the UK and this was superb. Full marks to the staff and service received. Wifi (free) reception was excellent. There is a lift so don't be worried about hiking up the grand staircase. The food was excellent. Ate in the room as tired. Fabulous, creative menu with locally sourced ingredients. I had the Highland Chicken (stuffed with Haggis) served with Whiskey Cream Sauce and sautéed Mushrooms and Onions. Well done Chef! Breakfast also hugely filling (go for the full Scottish - again tasty locally sourced). Only minor criticicm was that the floor in the bathroom looked a bit aged, but spotlessly clean everywhere. Would not hesitate in recommending or stopping here again.

"Dr "
Stanford M, 04 Octobre 2016

Old charm and simplicity in a quiet rural Scotland town. Clean and quiet room with modernised bathroom facilities. Lovely juicy steak menu in a convivial restaurant and bar. Central and close to town centre and railway station. Will return soon.

"Overnight stay"
GailOldfield, 03 Octobre 2016

On arrival a lovely friendly reception. The room was a double, with on-suite, with TV and complementary tea and coffee. Bedding, towels and furniture was spotless. Breakfast was a full Scottish for me and an omelette for him. I can only compliment all the staff, from cleaning to cooking. The restaurant food looked inviting but we went out locally with family. My only comment would be that the bar area seating and surroundings looked dated and weren't appealing to the eye, I would have liked a bit more in the way of comfort, lighting and character. The hotel is a wonderful building in a lovely location. I would definitely stay their again, good value for money and highly recommend the hotel.

"Adored Our Stay"
Francine M, 25 Septembre 2016

We were in town for one day. A whistle-stop tour of Dumfries mostly to see Caelaverock. We were greeted by our host, Adelyne (Apologies if I spelt that wrong!) and as we were early, she happily stored our bags out of site so we could go explore. She gave us a map, pointed out the areas we wanted to see, and asked if there were anything else she could do for us. She is fantastic!! And also as it turns out the hotel owner! The service in the lounge was excellent, even though I confused the attendant because I wanted soda water and not tonic in my gin! She tried so hard to talk me into a brownie, that really did look delicious. I should have taken her up on it! Our room was well appointed, a beautiful blue room with a view to the street. We never did hear the train so don't be afraid of it's location. Our bed was comfortable, and very clean. We loved the tea and "biscuits" (cookies to us North Americans) in the morning. There is so much to see in Dumfries and Galloway - I'd like to go back and explore more. Should I get that chance, I'll be calling this hotel again. So happy with our choice of stay in Dumfries. Thank you too, for welcoming me "home".

"What a wee gem of a hotel"
Welsh_Rebel, 23 Septembre 2016

Tucked away right next to Dumfries railway station this is an excellent hotel for the budget conscious business traveller or tourist. Good, clean and functional room and facilities but what sets it aside is the sheer friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Highly recommended and if I'm ever in D&G again, I'll be sure to stay over.

"Excellent service and food"
Jack H, 21 Septembre 2016

Stayed at many hotels on our UK tour and this looked a bit worrying next to the railway station. The room was generous in size and very comfortable. The dinner in the evening was excellent and very good value for money. The breakfast (thankfully not buffet) was very nice too. And they served butter that wasn't frozen! Other hotels please note: no frozen butter, no squeaky doors and to be able to tell the difference between shower gel and shampoo without a magnifying glass! We only heard one train in the morning (not a busy station) and, most importantly, the staff were very helpful. Highly recommended, especially for an evening meal.

"Family Wedding"
Anthony E, 20 Septembre 2016

Stayed at this hotel once again over the weekend because I was visiting town for a family wedding accompanied by my wife and daughter. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the ambience that this fine hotel generates. The staff are very friendly and professional, the breakfast is superb and freshly cooked to order. We occupied a double room and single room and both were very presentable, the bathroom was an excellent standard with toiletries being complimentary and tea and coffee making facilities were available. The hotel bar was a good size and there was plenty of room to "spread" out in the lounge areas.Free car parking is also available to guests.

"Lovely :)"
Gemsy D, 19 Septembre 2016

I had a great two nights' stay here. It's quite a pretty old hotel, big wide staircases and high ceilings, ideally located in Dumfries town centre and close to Galloway Forest Park where I had a great time stargazing. Staff were lovely and friendly, had lots of choices of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and shortbread in my room both days. And a bargain even though I didn't have any meals here as I was meeting friends often and we went to a wedding. Thank you for a lovely stay!

"Great food and a great nights sleep with a spacious and well presented room"
Rabby1, 17 Septembre 2016

Stayed for one night as a couple visiting family in the locality. Friendly and efficient check in, and directed to first floor room accessed by stairs or lift. Room large tastefully decorated room, with tea and coffee making equipment, including a capsule coffee machine. Plenty of desk space to work and free wifi with good signal. We ate in the Bistro and found food excellent from an extensive menu. The staff were friendly and helpful and food was well presented and timely manner. As a group of four we all enjoyed our meals and would definitely eat here again. Breakfast on the following morning was good. Overall a great experience and good value for money for accommodation and food.

"Another great stay"
Hilary F, 09 Septembre 2016

I have stayed here several times when working in the area. Easy to park. Easy book in process. Lift so 3rd floor no problem. Beds are really comfy - always sleep well. Lots of hot water for shower. evening meals reasonably priced - best curry I have had for ages! Breakfast really good - staff are great and very professional.

"Few Days away for friends wedding"
Andrew A, 07 Septembre 2016

Stayed in the hotel for five nights Room very spacious and tidy with good sized bathroom, plenty of plug sockets in room I know this sounds unusual but a lot of hotels weave stopped in they were far a few between. Beds big and comfy reasonable size TV for room. good selection of tea and coffee bits' in the room, good variation of breakfast choices good selection of drinks at the two bars, variation on the menu, staff always very friendly and there to help Aileen the owner always please to help you, very unusual but nice to see the owner helping out where necessary and not just sitting back in the office, wheelchair accessible for all the public areas and street access from the rear of hotel, train station literally across the road from the hotel the town is a short stroll up the road. No problems with the staff whatsoever seems Aileen as a good team working for her even got a great banter of all the staff

"Ron and Maureen"
wiganhotpot, 07 Septembre 2016

Very comfortable room with ample hot water and space ,good tv and wi fi Breakfast first class as was the special priced steak meal in the Bistro , only stayed 2 nightS but would have been very happy to have stayed longer .As for the owner ,she could not have been any nicer and find it hard to believe some of the reviews unless there were just cause for her behaviour By the way we have a business and also get unfounded remarks made about us and the staff. I would really like trip advisor to check some reviews out more carefully as they can be said malishlsly on untraceable mobile phones just out of spite or even from competitors Will book again in the future guite happily Thanks

"Return visit after many years"
Gillian S, 06 Septembre 2016

Stayed here for one night - rooms were absolutely lovely as one would expect from a Best Western Hotel. Efficient and friendly welcome in Reception on arrival. Very clean and with super comfy beds, toiletries, well stocked refreshment tray, etc. En suite bathroom was a good size with a very efficient double walk-in shower. We chose to eat a substantial breakfast to set us up for the day, but there was plenty of choice on the menu. On leaving checkout was equally charming - with helpful advice on how to find our destination on leaving the hotel. Thank you for a relaxing stay with sensible breakfast and checkout times.

"Alright for one night"
Emily T, 03 Septembre 2016

I stayed here the night before a business meeting. The reception staff were friendly and the room was huge and very nice. I went down to the restaurant for dinner and wasn't really that impressed with the waiter even though the food was pretty good. The waiter put me in a dark and dingy section of the restaurant despite other tables being free and the weather outside being beautiful, I was told this was the only place. The restaurant was very dated too - definitely in need of a refurb. The hotel is opposite the train station, which didn't really cause too much of a disturbance. However, the drunken man walking around the station shouting in the middle of the night was a bit annoying. Breakfast redeemed the restaurant a little as it was very tasty. Not sure I would be racing back here but it did the job for one night.

"Great hotel and all the staff were fantastic. "
David C, 03 Septembre 2016

On arrival got a very friendly welcome. Evening meal was excellent and breakfast was excellent room was fantastic and comfortable . This is a brilliant hotel to stay in would recommend it. Thanks to the staff.

"Asked to leave for not buying enough drinks in 40 minutes..."
LMWC, 31 Août 2016

So in the space of 40 minutes I had to leave if I did not buy another drink I was one of 3 people in the bar. I did try to order food but I was told I could not eat in the bar, I had to go downstairs said the receptionist. They don't have enough staff to bring the food to the bar where I was sitting working. But, despite the lack of staff, the receptionist could come through to the bar post my attempted food order in reception, asked me to order food for downstairs, I declined, she told the bar was only for customers and I had to leave! Well no wonder it's not that busy. Little does she realise I have eaten, drunk and worked here many times..but today is the last. So short sighted, so rude.

"Horrible Staff"
StoneRose_96, 31 Août 2016

The location is lovely as his holds a view of the station and that is the best thing about it, the staff let it down, big time. Bed wasn't comfy. Too expensive for what it offers. Food was OK but had a long wait. A lot of room for improvement to be honest.

"Nice hotel and great staff"
andrew w, 29 Août 2016

Stayed here on a cycle trip and was really pleased with all aspects of the stay. Great room and facilities very modern. Restaurant in the evening and breakfast was excellent and the staff were all lovely. If staying in Dumfries it must be the hotel to stay in.

"Very comfortable stay in elegant building"
Ian B, 26 Août 2016

Good hotel in good location. Elegant building in great location with parking out front. Have stayed at this hotel 3 times recently and would recommend for both social and business needs. Very comfortable with helpful and friendly staff.

"Charming Edwardian hotel."
911Michael, 24 Août 2016

Great location, easy parking in front of the hotel. The receptionist was excellent, charming and very welcoming. Dinner and breakfast in the hotel Bistro was very tasty, fresh locally sourced ingredients. Room and beds were rather small but as we only stayed one night it was not a problem.

"Very helpful.. top location... nice facilities"
Phil d, 24 Août 2016

I booked to stay at The Station Hotel as part of a bike trip round Scotland. The staff were most helpful during the arrangements to receive motorcycle delivery and for my stay. The room was well furnished and had all I needed. Hotel is in a Central location (10 mins walk from town). Would recommend.

"Good value - decent hotel"
Greg M, 15 Août 2016

I have stayed here a few times and The Station Hotel in Dumfries has never disappointed - decent food, nice pub and people and the rooms are great. Well worth the stop over if you are travelling around or across to Ireland - probably one of the better hotels in the area and the rates are excellent.

"Its Ok"
rhodesiabill, 12 Août 2016

Had one night at this hotel , reception good and nice welcome, got to my room to find builders were still in there, so got another room, Room was small and dated, small shower only and no bath. Good free parking right outside the hotel, WiFi was not working. The evening meal was pretty good but the restaurant is downstairs and quite dark and dingy to be honest, could do with updating . Again breakfast in the same room, does not open until 7am , but it was good quality and plenty of choice

"Poor sleep quality"
Gordon S, 10 Août 2016

The only issues I had with this hotel firstly I could only get a single room and it was small, very small. Room 19 was above what sounded like the ventilation system which was on all night and probably every night. There is a constant drone as it's on throughout the night! At 5am I had to call the night porter as I hadn't slept a wink and I was in bed around 11pm! Strangely enough he found a quieter room which was surprising as I had requested to a double room on arrival only to be told the hotel was fully booked with no spare rooms. Once in there I was out like a light for a couple of hours! When I was checking out I mentioned this to the receptionist who obviously apologised, but that was it. She said nobody had ever complained about the noise in this room before, which I found hard to believe. Whilst I didn't expect to get a full refund I did expect a bit of a reduction on my bill but it never happened as the receptionist didn't have the authority to do so. I thought she would have contacted someone to get authority but no! Through a combination of annoyance and lack of sleep I left without going for breakfast so that also saved them a few quid! Had I stayed in the Premier Inn I would have been given a full refund - no questions asked. Other than the sleep quality the rest of my stay was ok. We enjoyed a meal in the Bistro and the lounge bar is reasonably well presented. Will I go back? Based on ny experience I'm not so sure. Top marks to the night porter though who was very apologetic and did go out of his way to help.

"Quiet and comfortable"
tsaritsyn, 10 Août 2016

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in August. We were given a friendly welcome when we arrived and headed up to our room which faced the train station. The room was very warm so the windows in both the bedroom and bathroom had already been opened, we did not close them at all while we were there. Despite this, we didn't hear a single train until a freight train came through late one morning, so no disturbed sleep! We stayed in a double but the bed was larger than that, it was also very comfortable. The bathroom had recently been renovated and was very spacious. There's free wifi available throughout the hotel (~4mbps download) and plenty of choice for TV channels if you're wanting to watch some TV. Breakfast was included in our rate and is served in the bistro. There's table service for the hot food, tea and coffee, as well as a buffet for fruit, cereal and juice. The breakfast is tasty, although service was a little slow as there was only one member of wait staff working when we went for breakfast. Overall I thought the hotel was very good, no complaints at all.

"Lovely Hotel "
Atuska, 10 Août 2016

My partner stayed for 4 nights in double room. Great Location and only 5 mins walk to town centre. Room/ bathroom very modern and clean. Breakfast : excellent quality b/fast My partner used restaurant during stay and dinner was superb, delicious. Staff very friendly. Nice hotel.

"Bit dissapointed"
C A, 08 Août 2016

Hotel looked lovely, nice room but not much room when a camp bed was up for our child. Noisy water pipes were a bit annoying. Breakfast service was poor, had to wait ages to be served and then it took ages to come, sausages didn't look cooked, but bacon was lovely! Only give a small pot of tea for one and then it was only half full, so asked for more and got hot water to add to my one cup teabag!!

"What can I say"
mrskronaldson, 04 Août 2016

This hotel is average. When I first arrived the welcome was lovely. I was given a room on the top floor which I climbed the stairs to as I was not told there was a lift. But in fairness I do need the exercise. I met my colleagues in the lounge for evening drinks where we were served by a lovely elderly gentleman. The only downside to this was he was unsure how to use the till or the card machine. Not his fault abit more training would help. Had dinner the next night. Which was fine until I had used the vinegar on my chips to be told by a colleague of mine they had seen a fly in the bottom. (Which there was) But the young boy sorted it for me no problem at all. The hotel is well situated for the train literally at the front of hotel. It old fashioned decor but I quite liked that. Good for an overnight stay but don't think I would stay for a long period of time but I would eat else where was a little off putting for me

"Nice comfortable hotel"
10Campbell, 31 Juillet 2016

We made a last minute booking and going on reviews seemed like a good choice and accommodation wise was fantastically comfortable with 4 poster and Jacuzzi bath. A great nights sleep will definitely go back for a stay and could not fault, however the food was a different story, My husband ordered the baked cod and a strange concoction arrived with slimey skin and it was undercooked. We called the waiter to send it back and he was quite rude demanding to know what was wrong with it (frankly only had to look at it to know!!) People at the next table also complained about their steaks. I had the steak pie and counted three pieces of meat the rest was gravy - delicious gravy but would have expected more for the price. We went down for breakfast at 9.20 (service ends at 10) and on the buffet the fruit was all finished I asked if there was any more and told no!! I could have had prunes though!! The breakfast staff were slow and stood chatting behind the bar and leaving customers to fend for themselves, looking for buffet items which we later found had to order (croissants etc) when I did ask for a croissant it took 20 minutes to arrive!! Will most definitely return because cannot fault the accommodation but will steer clear of the food options.

"Worth a visit"
B1512TBchristinas, 25 Juillet 2016

Room had been recently modernised and was lovely. Staff were helpful and friendly. Food was very good, though service was a little bit slow - an hour between starter and main - although they did apologise. Some areas still need to be refuebished but there does seem to be an on- going programme. Would go back and would recommend!

"A quick lunch"
Thirstysandy, 22 Juillet 2016

Popped in for lunch, were warmly greeted by the owner, and was happy to see an old favourite on the lunch menu--not many restaurants offer mince and tatties these days! It was delicious, vegetables mixed in, and lovely creamy mash on top! My wife, too,was very pleased with her goats cheese salad

"Not what I'd expect from a Best Western"
Ian816, 20 Juillet 2016

If location is the key then there is little faulting this hotel - a matter of yards from the railway station and a short walk into the centre of town. I had a single occupancy double room which was on the third floor (don't worry, there is a lift) but because these rooms are set in the roof you get some dangerous slopes - easy to hit your head! Despite arriving well past 5 o'clock, on inspection of my room it was clear it hadn't been properly cleaned. There were profuse apologies and a free beer but really not good enough. The hotel seemed frightening understaffed with one poor girl having to run reception and the bar for most of the night.

"Location Location Location"
Bartholomew B, 18 Juillet 2016

Great location next to the Dumfries train station and practically downtown. Once I parked my car, I didn't drive again until I had to leave the hotel. All the Robert Burns sites are within an easy walk and ScotRail took care of my intercity travel. The rooms are just fine. The restaurant nice. What's not to like?

"Good choice "
User, 17 Juillet 2016

We stayed here for two nights while we attended a wedding. Location was fine, easy to get to near the centre of the town and with ample free parking. Station across road , as name suggests. Reception staff friendly and helpful with advice about the area, where to buy shoes (don't ask) and dinner options. Did not try the hotel for dinner and to be fair the receptionist did not push it too hard. Room was large enough, clean and quiet. Everything worked and the iron was useful. Overall hotel showing its age though well enough appointed. Would be happy to stay again and to recommend it. We though it would be suitable for anyone.

"Great location and value for money"
John H, 15 Juillet 2016

stayed for two nights in superior double room. large spacious room. excellent location opposite rail station and only 5 mins walk to town centre. good friendly staff and excellent quality breakfast. did not use restaurant during stay

"two night stay"
dianehowlett, 09 Juillet 2016

we had a very nice short break at the hotel, the staff were very friendly, evening meals were good, especially the steak, delicious ! easy to walk into town, the only downside, (which was nothing to do with the hotel ) was the platform on the station being dug up with a pneumatic drill at 4am on the Sunday morning,

"Really good location"
Explore3947, 02 Juillet 2016

Mixed experience. Had stayed and enjoyed years previously. Booking not a good start, given doubt as to availability of very good ££ deal advertised on web site. (Would perhaps be better PR to limit this to quieter months only rather than 'as and when'.) Rooms well furnished, including iron & board available, very clean, though bathroom & plumbing a wee bit tired. Breakfast fine, dinner moderate. Receptionists especially helpful and friendly and free central car parking a real bonus.

"Helpful staff"
cherylcE6763KE, 28 Juin 2016

Staff were really friendly and helpful , actually went out of the way to organise out of hours breakfast for my wife , and made it out to be no hassle whatsoever. Room was very clean , bed was a bit too soft for our liking but thats just our preference . We had a meal in the restaurant and the food was extremely good.

"Comfortable and reasonably quiet"
Drooper901, 28 Juin 2016

Conveniently located opposite the railway station. I booked a "compact double" room which was on the top floor. The room was very clean and the hot water and shower were fine. The room was reasonably well appointed and conveniently laid out. The bed was comfortable and the staff were polite and helpful. The free wifi worked well. There is some noise from the railway which is within 50m of the hotel but I did not find this intrusive (even though my room overlooked the station). On the down side, the food at this hoted used to be exceptional (~8-10 years ago) but I would only describe it as only good now. Breakfasts were fine but some evening meals are best avoided, in particular the "five bean chilli" which I think only had a total of 5 beans in it with rather a lot of pepper and tomato but not much chilli. The other evening meal I had at the hotel was good but not great. Overall I would stay here again.

"Well-run traditional Scottish Hotel"
Joan H, 21 Juin 2016

We stayed one night in mid-May as we made our way from Cornwall to Loch Lomond. The hotel is an impressive red sandstone building with a traditional Scottish hotel interior -- grand stair case and large windows in the nicely appointed public rooms. Our room had two large windows which made it bright and it looked be to recently redecorated. The bath also looked to be recently re-done with a very good layout, including a towel warmer (love that). There is a very pretty courtyard and a fountain that would be nice on a warm summer evening. Our dinner in the hotel restaurant was very well prepared and the dinner service crisp. They provision from local providers and list where the food comes from, which I liked. The high street is just a few blocks away. There is a beautiful river park in the town as well, and also nearby is the impressive Caerverlock castle.

"One night stay"
Viv F, 19 Juin 2016

This hotel is opposite the railway station with free parking. It's a lovely hotel even though it needs a bit TLC. It's a cosy hotel with a nice warm atmosphere. We got a very warm welcome from Rebecca on reception who couldn't do enough for us, she always had a smile on her face and nothing was a problem for her, she was even working at the bar aswell as doing her other duties. The rooms were pretty large and very clean, beds were really comfy and we didn't hear much from the railway station either. Food was good too, we had steaks for our dinner which were very reasonably priced and breakfast was tasty. All in all, had a lovely stay here and if ever in Dumfries again then we would definitely return to the station hotel.

"Lovely and relaxing"
theredref, 18 Juin 2016

This hotel is situated right opposite the railway station and is in a lovely quiet part of Dumfries. The food is excellent and so are the staff had a lovely meal of steak and chips and a great breakfast in the morning

"Excellent friendly hotel"
Emily P, 17 Juin 2016

Stayed one night on business. Staff very welcoming. Lent me a mobile charger when mine was broken which saved my day as I needed sat nav on phone to get around. Room was large, conformable and spottles. Ate dinner in restaurant. Good selection of food. My meal was delicious. Breakfast I had a croissant and coffee. Other work colleagues had the full cooked breakfast. It looked amazing. I'll have to not eat the night before so that I can manage the cooked breakfast next time I stay.

"Excellent stay"
jameson48, 15 Juin 2016

Thoroughly enjoyed staying at this hotel. Room spacious. Bed enormous and very comfortable. Location good with free parking. Breakfast very good too.Staff were friendly and helpful as regards maps Tec.

"Great Location, the rest was good rather than very good"
Vanessa E, 14 Juin 2016

Service was good and the location excellent if arriving by train or wanting to be near the city centre, although parking seemed limited if driving. Rooms are ok, but could do with a refresh as they felt quite tired, especially the bathroom. The coffee machine in the room though was a nice and welcome touch. Staff were friendly throughout but the continental breakfast wasn't as extensive as other hotels. The hot breakfast which is made to order came quickly and was nice and hot but again, not as good as I've had elsewhere.

"Nice room, good service, good breakfast"
Johnfcooper, 12 Juin 2016

Surprised how nice the room was to be honest, but nice big bed & a good shower, and generally very clean. Service was friendly & quick. Breakfast was good. No aircon in room, but then that's he norm in older hotels with character (& seldom needed in Scotland after all), so only actual negative is the lack of a real ale in the bar. Well selected choice of whiskies though!

"Hit and miss"
fs2000, 08 Juin 2016

I have stayed here 2 or 3 times and not had any real complaints just little niggles. Check in I couldn't fault. Friendly and helpful. Room was hot and airless on arrival but cooled eventually after opening the windows, cups were dirty but replaced on request. The shower was hot or scalding and I couldn't get it to a cool setting. The meal in the restaurant at evening was pleasant and the staff were accommodating however service did deteriorate once there were 5/6 tables seated. 40 minutes to take my plate and order a desert. When it eventually arrived it was not what I ordered. A good nights sleep was had. Breakfast! Myself and 2 others arrived 4 minutes earlier than 7 am. I now remember how it feels when you got told off at school. The servers attitude was terrible. And the breakfast wasn't a great deal better however still edible. I would return as a last resort.

"Very comfortable with good food"
Silver1967, 05 Juin 2016

The location of this hotel is central to the town centre and obviously signposted as it is opposite the train station. There is parking which, when we stayed in May, was plentiful. The room itself was a large double and the bed was king size or bigger which was really comfortable too. Unlike some hotels there were tea and coffee making facilities in the room and these are replaced readily. You could even ask for a joke of fresh milk instead of the small cartons. The outside area with wooden patio furniture was really welcome in the mini heat wave we had. Dumfries was a good centre for our stay and we went to see some castles, coastal reserves for wildlife, Kite feeding, ospreys et cetera.

"Would happily return to enjoy another visit. "
filthurlow, 04 Juin 2016

We stayed at the Best Western Station Hotel in Dumfries for a few nights on a family holiday in June. It was easy to find, located opposite the station just off a side road on the way into the town about a mile from the A75. The receptionist was very welcoming and organised a car parking space close to the front of the hotel, which was much appreciated. We were booked into two bedrooms on the first floor, accessed by either a wide staircase or a lift. The bedrooms were bright, clean and modern. Furniture included large wardrobe, bedside tables and lamps, dressing table, large mirrors, flatscreen TV and a high backed armchair. There were also plenty of spare electric sockets available for charging phones. The bed was large and very comfortable and allowed us to have a great nights sleep. We ate dinner in the restaurant on the first evening and had a delicious meal. The menu was appetising and offered specials as well as set options. Dishes that we ordered included a "wee beastie" which is haggis and black pudding in a brandy sauce, which I can say was delicious. Other dishes included also looked nice, especially the venison. Breakfast offered a full Scottish option as well as an English option plus the usual continental choice with toast, yoghurts, fruits etc. I found the Scottish breakfast to be more than satisfying and a great start to the day. The staff were friendly, helpful and happy to ensure our stay was memorable. There is a lovely little garden adjacent to the bistro / conservatory with a water fountain to relax, converse and enjoy a drink alfresco. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing family holiday at the Best Western Station Hotel and would be happy to stay here again on a future visit to the area. .

"Plenty character, recently renovated"
Firhill_for_Thrills, 03 Juin 2016

We stayed here with our three children recently. It is a traditional old station hotel which has recently had a bit of a renovation inside. Big rooms, nice and quiet, handy for walking into the town centre and we had a nice dinner in the hotel one night. We found all the staff very friendly and helpful.

"WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER"
xjessx24, 31 Mai 2016

Never, have I ever been spoken to so rudely in all my life. I tried to make a reservation online with which did not receive a confirmation, called the hotel direct who told me "Oh sorry, we are actually fully booked haha" Yes, well it isn't funny, and you should not have had rooms available online when I needed this room for a family funeral, and then laugh about it afterwards! She then said "WELL, there is NOTHING I CAN DO about it!" Well there is something I can do, and is tell people on trip advisor about how rude and upset I feel after this telephone conversation. Didn't even offer to help me find another hotel who may have vacancies available, instead just laughed and did not care! AWFUL

"Excellent choice"
gingerval, 26 Mai 2016

The Station Hotel was built in 1896 and is full of character. It is opposite the railway station but we weren't bothered by noise. The hotel has free parking outside. We had a large, bright double room with secondary glazing. There were very generous tea making facilities in the room, complete with shortbread biscuits and the staff will supply a jug of fresh milk if you prefer this. There were large mugs rather than fiddly cups and saucers. Toiletries are provided as well as an iron and ironing board, good sized towels, a flat screen TV and the rooms are WiFi wired and have wireless Internet. There is a guest computer in the reception area and this is free. It is only 5 minutes walk to the town centre and the receptionist gave us a town map and even drew a suggested trail for us as this was our first visit. We ate in the Bistro on our first night and the food and the service was so good that we ate at the hotel every evening. James, the Duty Manager gave us excellent service each evening. Even though only my husband wanted coffee after our evening meal, I was brought a piece of fudge as well even though I didn't want a hot drink. Breakfast was fantastic. There was a buffet for the cold items but what was so fantastic was that the hot food was to order. This was so refreshing and one of the best breakfasts ever. There was a really good choice. I would highly recommend this hotel.

"Charming piece of history, Good nights sleep"
msankaran, 24 Mai 2016

This old beauty has been remodeled creatively. The rooms are large and comfortable. Parking is free and you can walk to great restaurants and all the local history. The staff was very helpful not only with our stay but in researching the things we wanted to do in the area. The restaurant in the building was a bit awkward but convenient. The WiFi was mostly on. Phone calls are expensive. The laundry service was super affordable and prompt. The plumbing is old and takes a bit of patience.

"High standards from the age of steam locomotives"
Glenburnhall, 18 Mai 2016

I have stayed here on a number of occasions, never more than one night at a time, and have always had a quiet, comfortable room and a warm welcome. This was once a grand railway hotel (it still has a ‘Pullman Lounge') and has managed to retain much of its old style, good manners and good service. Dinners are good and modestly priced, and its breakfasts are mercifully quiet affairs with a comprehensive menu. A minor moan, though not about the hotel: I wish big hotel groups, such as Best Western, would allow customers to call their hotels direct, rather than hi-jacking us to a call centre where there is no opportunity to ask about the room, the view, or other important details. Fortunately the warm welcome at the Station Hotel makes one feel something more than a booking reference when one checks in. I warmly recommend it.

"Lovely stay in Dumfries"
David N, 18 Mai 2016

Just stayed in Station Hotel, Dumfries for 2 nights. Excellent hotel, lovely and clean, great breakfast and evening meal. We will be going back, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to stay there.

"Old fogies"
Brenda W, 15 Mai 2016

very comfortable ambience, well trained professional staff who were willing and helpful without being obtrusive. We were able to sit in comfort to read or watch television after dinner - good to have more than one chair!

"Friendly staff"
Murcia23w, 14 Mai 2016

Stayed here for a week , smooth check in, lovely fresh room on 1st floor no14. Great bed very comfortable, tea facilities iron board and iron. Bath in bathroom with over head shower. Very spacious room with flat screen TVs. Breakfast was made to order or there was continental . Food was excellent and of a good standard , nice and fresh . I would stay here again

"Convenient, Quiet and Quality Hotel"
Ric M, 11 Mai 2016

Would stay again Stayed 3 nights in a large well furnished room. Thought it would be noisy next to the station but was surprisingly quiet. Breakfast was of a good quality with good service. Had dinner in the restaurant too and was impressed (useful on a Monday when many restaurants in town are closed). A short walk into the town centre and a short cab ride ~£4.50 to events at Easterbrook Hall.

"Pleasant option"
duisdeil, 04 Mai 2016

Nice building in a convenient location, (with parking if you don't arrive by train), quiet at night, and with local staff. Our 'large double' was fresh, spotless and nicely proportioned, although the bathroom was a bit of a let-down in comparison - squeezed in, and only had a shower. We could also very clearly hear the plumbing from the room above us. Next time I'd ask for the top floor and one of the rooms with a 'spa-bath'. The menu features home-made dishes with local produce - but it's not very exciting. (The south-west in general is a bit stuck in a time-warp with food, and the old cliche of stuffing something with a bit of haggis is apparently adventurous. Young chefs who want to indulge their flair are clearly not hanging around Dumfries.) That said, the Station Hotel is probably the best option in a town with no fine-dining offerings. We were there at the same time as the 'exceeding all expectations' reviewer, and heard them discuss the rowing competition - so it just goes to show that what disappoints one person about a menu makes someone else very happy. Good wi-fi in the room.

"Best Yet!"
Nigel C, 03 Mai 2016

Often stay at The Station Hotel in Dumfries when undertaking research or getting photos for talks or articles. Latest stay was the best yet. As always staff brilliant, food especially the local salmon was superb although the steak on the first night would take some beating and the breakfasts set me up for the day. Hopefully back there soon!

"exceeding all expectations"
diarmidmac, 03 Mai 2016

Where do I start? Well, even before we arrived, actually. My eldest daughter was competing in a rowing regatta at Dumfries so we decided to stay over on the Saturday night. We then found out that, in order to compete in her first race, we would have to be up at 4.00 am on the Saturday morning so I decided to book the Friday night as well. Despite the hotel having a wedding and a party of golfers staying, the proprietor, Aileen, managed to shuffle bookings around and fit us in - an excellent start! When we arrived at the beautiful, old G&SW railway building, we found ourselves booked in to two excellent, comfortable rooms, very clean and nicely furnished. Then on to dinner...what can I say, absolutely fantastic. I had a Portobello mushroom stuffed with local haggis and a whisky sauce - delicious. This was followed by an excellent rib-eye steak, tender and beautifully cooked, with great chips and a good selection of vegetables. This was all repeated on the Saturday, with a delicious burger, vegetable chilli, chicken burger and macaroni cheese. Every single dish was excellent. The breakfasts were superb too, lovely local produce and nice fresh fruit. So, this is truly a "hidden gem." Dumfries is a great base for exploration and the hotel is right next to the station, with ample free parking for guests. The whole experience was simply wonderful, the hotel is beautiful and the staff very helpful and friendly. I can`t recommend the Station highly enough and we will definitely be back!

"A Comfortable Stay at The Station Hotel"
Andy L, 02 Mai 2016

Two nights at this hotel was a very agreeable experience. Centrally located, 10 minutes walk from the Town Centre. Very quiet, spacious and comfortable room. Excellent Wi-Fi was able to stream digital radio without interruption. Great breakfast - The Full Scottish. If my travels take me here, i'll be back!

"Excellent Stay"
hilditch, 02 Mai 2016

Stayed one night with my wife and 3 kids. Room was great as it fitted a King & 3 single beds with plenty of room to move around. Beautifully decorated room and bathroom. We ate in the restaurant downstairs and had lovely food and a great bottle of Pinotage!! The restaurant manager was friendly and knowledgeable and the kids loved the menu . Breakfast was piping hot and hearty. Check in and check out was friendly and efficient and the owner gave us great advice and ideas about what to do locally. Thanks

"Welcoming & Courteous"
TheMarillionaire, 29 Avril 2016

I stayed here for 2 nights on a recent business trip. I received a lovely warm welcome from the reception staff and when I asked for directions to my work destination the next day I was given a map and directions were explained and highlighted, which was spot on. The car park is right outside the hotel and free to residents excellent. All the staff whom I come into contact with were helpful, courteous and caring. The room was spotless and exactly what I required. Breakfast was also excellent and the serving staff were very attentive without being over bearing and were always exceptionally polite and considerate. the free wi-fi is also a bonus. I will definitely be staying here again and I recommend it to my family, friends and colleagues alike.

"Dumfries"
Greg M, 26 Avril 2016

This is a great hotel with decent secure free parking, fast internet and lovely friendly people. Food was great and the whisky excellent. It is an easy walk in to a lovely town centre. And I was very satisfied from a value for money point of view. I would recommend this hotel for business and leisure if you are looking for a gateway to a beautiful part of Scotland.

"Lovely, homely stay."
Tony S, 20 Avril 2016

I stayed here for a period of 1 night while on business in the area. When I pulled up to the hotel I was a little worried with the train station and bus depot that this was going to be noisy but I was proved wrong. Really good location and easy to find and trust me very little noise from the trains or buses. There is parking on site that is free if you stay in hotel. When I checked in I was greeted by wonderful staff who made me feel very welcome and even upgraded to a bigger room (due to Best Western membership status). I had a lovely room on 2nd floor, massive bed and lovely and clean. The rooms are slightly dated but the bed was so comfy with a nice flat screen TV. The WI-Fi was pretty good too which I wasn't expecting so that was a added bonus. After my evening meal in the Courtyard Bistro (review over on that page) I wanted to go for a walk and the hotel has maps and I was shown a nice route around the town. I had a decent nights sleep and there was just a little noise from one of the adjoining rooms as I could hear the TV but it didn't really disturb me too much. This hotel might have got top marks if it wasn't because of the breakfast. The breakfast just didn't fill me, the toast was very thin without crusts, I got one sausage and a handful of beans. I stay in a lot of hotels and I always have a nice breakfast to get me through day and this unfortunately was only let down in a otherwise brilliant stay. If you are in the area I highly recommend you give this hotel a go and I will be staying if in the area again.

"Outstanding"
chrissandra51, 19 Avril 2016

My wife and I stayed for one night but would have happily stayed for more. Check in was easy and the staff were efficient and very friendly. Our room [ 17 ] was exceptional, lovely big bed, great bathroom with toiletries and plenty of towels, hospitality tray included biscuits, iron and ironing board, great tv with all channels and for once two easy chairs. We had an evening meal and again the staff were excellent, the food was plentiful and tasty. After a very comfortable night the choices for breakfast were extensive. Overall we could find no fault with anything and would highly recommend staying at this hotel. Our thanks go to everyone at the hotel.

"1st time"
enncle, 15 Avril 2016

my partner and I visit Dumfries often. we like to stay at Hamilton house normally but didn't have rooms for our dates. this time we booked two rooms as we brought family with us. parking free outside hotel. the station hotel has a lovely atmosphere to it. reception staff were very friendly. a quick check inn. lovely stairs in foyer. oldie historic feel to the place. rooms were a little worn but that goes with the feel . not minding that at all. bathroom spotless. very comfortable bed. tea and coffee facilities. wardrobe iron and board. this is great . would return. breakfast room was lovely. young man who served us was efficient and very friendly and polite. breakfast choices were good. food hot and tasty. drinks in the bar were good not expensive either. lovely outdoor seating area for the warmer weather. wouldn't hesitate to book again.great staff, great price and location.

"Dissapointed"
Christopher B, 07 Avril 2016

I have spent time in other Best Westerns and it seems the problems are generic in all venues I have stayed at. The Internet connectivity is appalling and the water pressure is poor. The room was cold albeit I did not arrive until late in the evening after a long drive but the radiator didn't heat up until the morning and so spent a cold night in the room.

"lovely stay"
Alan Melvyn T, 06 Avril 2016

a lovely hotel , with a charm of its own ,with nice friendly staff , clean rooms and in a central location . breakfast and evening meal were both extremely good bed was comfy with decent pillows would certainly stay at station hotel again ..

"Good standard, and quality of rooms excellent"
SandySwindon, 02 Avril 2016

Not knowing what to expect we booked this hotel for one night. Reception staff very friendly and obliging, and handled us well given we had arrived too early for rooms to be ready. Did not dine in hotel, but was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the rooms. Very spacious, well equipped, and a bed designed for a great nights sleep. Nice people and could not fault the hotel. Easily accessed wi if which is refreshing. Fed up with giving my inside leg measurements before getting the free wi fi?

"We had a lovely stay"
Crojan, 01 Avril 2016

Decor a bit dated but very clean. We had a top floor, ensuite, twin room and there is a working lift. The best thing about the hotel is the staff, very friendly and helpful. Lots of local knowledge. We were using public transport but the parking is right by the hotel. The hotel is literally across the road from the station and there are buses to local beauty spots from right by the hotel too. Walking distance to town centre.

"Trouble in the station"
Danielkir, 27 Mars 2016

I was very disappointed the manager was a very unprofessional woman I heard her sware at her co-workers more than once while I was eating disgraceful also I kept getting dirty glasses which was very iratating all in all I wouldn't stay there ever

"Nice, old fashioned hotel"
Rebecca A, 04 Mars 2016

I stayed here for four nights in February. The hotel has an olden days charm about it but could do with a little upgrading. The staff were welcoming and friendly - particularly in the restaurant and remembered orders from day to day. The food was good and the vegetarian creations were tasty. My room was charming and comfortable. The light streaming in through the windows was lovely. My bed was great and I slept well. It was strange that they had installed the TV so it covered the mirror, making the mirror redundant. The bathroom and shower were tiny and when washing my hair, my elbows each touched a side of the shower and the water controller stuck into my back (I don't know what to call the contraption that controlled the water!). I'm just an average size person so would hate to have been any taller or larger! The location is great being literally across the road from the train station and it's only a 5-10min walk into town. A tip though is the entrance on the train station side is up stairs and then through a small revolving door so if you have luggage, you are best to walk around to the other side of the building and in the normal door at street level. This would be much easier!

"Helpful staff, attractive building."
markdalton73, 27 Février 2016

Staff were really helpful. Cooked breakfast is pretty good, but the not cooked part is rather average (Golden Shred marmalade is not classy). Room was quiet, warm and comfortable. Shower is high standard but water flow a bit on the feeble side. Quite handy for town centre and for routes in and out. Overall, recommendable in its price bracket.

"handily placed"
R H, 18 Février 2016

Nice old building , although as the name suggests, it is by the railway , the hotel was well soundproofed. Just two minutes from town centre . Dumfries appears to be a little short of good beer pubs, but the Weatherspoons "Robert the Bruce" was a haven of good beer and inexpensive food

"Work "
stewart l, 01 Février 2016

Exelent hotel food is very good staff very friendly rooms cleaned every day we'll recommend second time at this hotel stayed for 2 weeks each time if you can't find what you want on the menu just ask and the chef may be able to cater for your needs .

"Decent hotel, well located but needs some TLC"
Les F, 24 Janvier 2016

Stayed here for one night in a "Super King" room. This hotel was once quite a high end one and has seen better days since we used to live in the town. The positives are that the room was a good size, staff were nice enough and friendly and efficient at check in and out. However the decor is very old fashioned, and the quality of the room was not really very good for £80 room only. Limited (Freeview) TV channels, and an old fashioned bathroom with some grotty plasterwork and thin towels. The bed was certainly large and was reasonably comfortable. In terms of cleanliness there were no issues but for the price why not put a couple of bottles of water into the room? Better than little packs of cookies! Location is perfect for people coming in by train and it is a short walk into the town. In fairness there are not that many other options in the town but the Station Hotel needs to up its game to keep its once high reputation intact.

"excellent meal"
Mary M, 17 Janvier 2016

We had an excellent meal at The Station hotel my husband & I had the prawns to start they were really good then to follow my husband had the fish in beer batter with chips & peas. I had the lamb with Mediterranean vegetables it was delicious. For our dessert I had the banoffie pie and my husband had the trio of ice cream the meal was outstanding. The staff Rachel who served our food and Cameron the chef who also I would like to say added to what can only be described as a very good lunch.

"First time visit and will definitely be back"
angela148, 13 Janvier 2016

First time visit to the hotel and wasn't disappointed. The rooms are lovely, spacious and very cosy. Our room had been newly refurbished, decor was lovely. Staff were very friendly. Breakfast lovely. Hotel is about a 5 minute walk to the main shopping area. Will definitely be back.

"A decent if a little old fashioned hotel"
singaporefinn1967, 10 Janvier 2016

Clean and decent, some rooms can be a little small, clean and well appointed. The bar and restaurant are pretty empty, best to eat elsewhere. Very conveniently located. Breakfast is good , service polite and friendly

"Great stay"
Brian G, 10 Janvier 2016

Staff and quality of service always good. Look forward to staying again. Rooms well presented clean and comfortable. Staff happy to help with any issues at short notice. Food was very good and well presented. I would recommend this hotel for both business and leisure stays.

"My Dumfries home ??"
Cymraes66, 15 Décembre 2015

Having stayed here regularly during 2015, I can honestly say that I truly feel at home here. I know the owner and staff by name and feel part of the "family". I suppose, part of the furniture and fittings really. I never have any concerns or worries when coming here. The high standards that I witnessed and experienced during my first stay early in 2015 have continued through to now (Dec 2015). I have absolute confidence that these standards will remain during 2016 and indeed beyond. Having gone through a refurbishment programme, rooms have been modernised to a very high standard with excellent results. The Bathrooms which have been refurbished are stunningly modern. The Bistro Restaurant serves theeeeeee most delicious food and served with pride. All the meals I have enjoyed here have been excellent and with locally sourced produce, they certainly do their bit to support the local community and other businesses. Absolutely nothing is too much trouble - a quality which is sadly lacking in today's society. Would I recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting the area - undoubtedly. Thank you to the owner and Staff for their high level of excellence and professionalism and look forward to spending time with you in 2016.

"Cant be bothered"
.dawn C, 06 Décembre 2015

We booked for a quiet family meal . On arrival it was friendly and warm with people for a Christmas party alongside those who were seeking shelter as the trains south were cancelled. Despite this there was plenty of room for a sit down drink before our meal. Our meal was very nice with the table including steaks, pie, and fish all of which were tasty and well served. Desserts followed and cheese , with clean plates all round. We decided to have coffee upstairs in the bar. On asking for 2 coffees ,a pint, and a liqueur coffee I was told that by a barmaid that they were too busy to do a liqueur coffee and she could not be bothered to go downstairs to get the cream as it would upset the kitchen staff. I explained we had just had a meal and were having coffee upstairs only to relieve a vitriolic response on how busy she was. Sadly had I ordered in the restaurant I would have paid a £1 more but I would have got it. I would have got another drink but her attitude and manner after we spent over £110 since our arrival bordered on shocking. One member of the team spirit our whole experience. Well done to restaurant team you were excellent , let down by your colleague (older female also covering reception) team only as good as your weakest link.

"Good hotel "
Steve0ley, 24 Novembre 2015

The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. My room was spacious and very clean. I had a lovely meal in the restaurant and the lady serving was very polite and friendly. The bar was ok, however it could have done with some back ground music as the few who were in there were all whispering because it was so silent. Breakfast had a good range and was very nice.

"They always have a problem with the heating"
Michael B, 20 Novembre 2015

It appears that they always have a problem with the heating and make some pathetic excuse about some mysterious person turning it off or its non functionality. They are just so mean they don't want large heating bills. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Being in the legal profession, I have seen this type of negative behaviour before.

"Nice hotel in a good location"
CheekyPlayMonkey, 12 Novembre 2015

I only stayed here one night as visiting on business but the staff at check in were very friendly and my room was well decorated which was a pleasant surprise for an older building - the bathroom in particular was really modern and well finished. I didn't eat in the restaurant or breakfast due to timings I had to leave but will return again and eat there next time. Also had parking outside the hotel and was just a 10 minute walk into Dumfries centre. A nice hotel with friendly staff.

"Best Western Station Hotel"
Brian G, 12 Novembre 2015

All hotel staff friendly and happy to help. Newly refurbished rooms are excellent quality and comfortable. Food quality in the restaurant is excellent. Hotel location in central with easy access to all Dumfries amenities.

"Quirky hotel with some luxury touches"
Bailieborough_Blowin, 12 Novembre 2015

Beautiful Victorian hotel, effective secondary glazing reduces noise from occasional trains at pretty station opposite. Extremely comfortable bed, fabulous quality bedding and large towels, friendly staff - overall a very charming experience. Disappointingly I had an issue with my meal in the restaurant being cold, which was rectified without fuss and apologies offered, and breakfast was well executed. You'll see us again

"Lovely old hotel with lots of character"
Mark D, 31 Octobre 2015

This is a nice hotel with friendly welcoming staff. We stayed in a Superior room which was very spacious, looked recently refurbished and was finished to a good standard throughout. The bistro restaurant was pleasant, it offers a comprehensive, well priced menu with an emphasis on local produce. Every night is Steak night and it has to be said this was a beautiful piece of beef cooked to perfection. Lounge bar was quite quiet, offered a good range of beers and spirits (no shortage of single malts here) at reasonable prices (only exception being the wine which starts at £20 a bottle.) Sound proofing was excellent in the room, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel seemed to be reasonably well occupied judging by the number of people at breakfast, but we didn't hear a noise all night. Overall this was a very pleasant stay in a lovely old hotel with lots of character.

"Olde World Charm"
Pauline M, 28 Octobre 2015

Charming old hotel., maintaining elegant character, with modern comforts. The rotating entrance door (original I think) even sounds like an old 'chuffer' train! Our room was spacious. The bed was huge, very comfortable, and the pillows heavenly! Power shower exhilarating. Lovely big fluffy white towels etc All staff very polite, friendly and efficient. The chef's a magician. Food delicious and abundant, both at breakfast and dinner. Our first visit (using Tesco Vouchers) will not be our last. Very conveniently, only 5 minutes walk to lovely Dumfries town centre, and, obviously, right next to the train station, so a car not essential.

"Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Price"
Ian M, 27 Octobre 2015

This hotel is in a perfect location for visiting Dumfries. Like most station hotels it hails from a bygone era of quality rail travel. The hotel has maintained the old style look but with modern rooms and amenities. Food was excellent as was the friendliness and service of all staff including housekeeping.

"Stayed many times"
glyn a, 20 Octobre 2015

this is a nice good hotel. I have stayed here several times over the last 7 years. It is a joy to stay here and would highly recommend it. I have been back time and time again. Very friendly and welcoming.

"Excellent stay."
tripper217, 16 Octobre 2015

I arranged a visit for 43 members of our rambling club to this hotel. We had excellent service from everyone at the hotel from the initial enquiry to our checkout. The rooms were of a high standard, the food was excellent and the staff were all eager to please. I had quite a few changes to make between initial enquiries and arrival, due to cancellations etc., and all of my problems were dealt with professionally. We had a great time walking in the area (Moffat and Dalbeattie) and enjoyed good weather. I have received many compliments regarding the hotel from the members who attended and we would happily return to this hotel some time in the future. Thanks again to everyone at the Station hotel.

"Walking weekend"
JMBRamblings, 16 Octobre 2015

We stayed at this hotel in October 2015 as part of a Rambling Group (about 43 of us). We found the hotel clean, well maintained and comfortable and it was well situated in Dumfries (just opposite the station but we never heard the trains) Our bedroom was reasonably large and quite well appointed. The staff were courteous and pleasant throughout our stay and the management endeavoured very hard to cater for our needs. The breakfast and dinners were good and the common areas cosy and welcoming. Our only problem was a minor misunderstanding in that the hotel thought they were serving breakfast "from" 8.00 am whereas our group thought breakfast was "at" 8.00am so we turned up en mass to the consternation of the kitchen staff. Fair dues to the management who easily fixed the problem for the next day's breakfast by serving it "buffet-style" In summary,, the hotel performed well in catering for such a large group and, from a personal perspective, I would have no hesitation in returning. I'm pleased to be able to report that the walking went very well too.

"The Best Fish and Chip Supper Bar None"
Brian W, 07 Octobre 2015

We stayed here on a Saturday night en-route to another hotel north of Dumfries and the following Friday on our way back South to England. Arrived by train at Dumfries from the West Midlands and as the name implies - the hotel in a few steps from the station. This is what I call a Station Hotel - steeped in old fashioned ways - just perfect as I abhor clinically clean Premier Outs and Travail Lodges. On the second stay, the Friday night, I was determined to try the "Station" Fish and Chip supper. The best I have ever tasted bar none! OK so some reviews have moaned about the décor etc, - this is an old fashioned hotel and long may it stay that way. I must say though that the rooms we had were excellent and the bathrooms bang up-to-date. The station itself is a gem complete with edible garden where you are invited to pick the produce - brilliant!

"Scottish End of Roadtrip Stay"
Anjhill34, 29 Septembre 2015

Stayed overnight at this hotel on our way back following a 6 day roadtrip across Dumfries & Galloway. After staying in a functional, comfortable Travelodge, a quirky, cosy wooden wigwam, and an amazing lighthouse, this stay was viewed as ideal for its location, amenities and expected comfortable rooms. The staff in both the main hotel and restaurant were welcoming and pleasant, and our evening meal was delicious and value for money. The hotel did look 'tired' and in need of a cash injection to update its decor, and room items such as the old style hairdryer but overall our stay was good, with the extremely comfortable king-size bed making it difficult to leave in the morning! If we were to return to the area, we would stay again.

"3rd stay - always a warm welcome"
Hilary F, 26 Septembre 2015

I have stayed here 3 times now for business purposes. It is great after a long day. Always a friendly welcome at check in. Rooms are absolutely ideal for overnight stays. Comfy beds and lots of hot water. Lift to all floors. TV and WIFI. Good food served with a smile. Great breakfast. What more can I say.

"Nice hotel with friendly & helpful staff"
Scotstraveller99, 25 Septembre 2015

Warm welcome from a friendly and efficient reception. Large comfortable room and spacious bathroom provided all that is needed. Hotel bistro served a tasty meal from a complete menu and staff were very helpful

"Spacious character hotel with wonderfully helpful staff and a super Bistro"
MP23_10, 21 Septembre 2015

We stayed here for an overnight [Saturday] when participating in a Curling tournament at the local Ice Bowl. Our last game on the Saturday finished at 8pm - we had yet to travel to and check in at the Hotel so we telephoned at 8.15pm to ask if we could book a table at the Hotel Bistro for 9pm [time for last orders].The receptionist could not have been more accommodating - she confirmed our short notice booking for the Bistro, provided valuable advice on parking at the Hotel and then warmly welcomed us when we arrived. The Receptionist even offered to move her own car should we want to park closer to the Hotel entrance and she also had Bistro menus at reception to allow us to order our meals so that we could take 20 mins to deposit our gear in our rooms and freshen up before dinner. All much appreciated. What a marvellous front of house ambassador ! Our two rooms were spacious, well appointed, clean and comfortable. A nice change from the now commonplace room template appearance of many corporate chain hotels, inns and lodges. Yes - the bathrooms are a little dated - but they are of good size and function efficiently. There may be some chipped paintwork in the corridors but nothing of any real concern. The charm and history of these older Hotels is invariably a plus for me which outweighs any minor issues. The Hotel Bistro proved to be a little gem - cleverly created in space within the Hotel basement achieving a truly warm Bistro type ambience as opposed to the rather characterless feel that some Hotel restaurants suffer from. The Bistro staff were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. They appeared to be enjoying their work and this was apparent in their positive demeanour. The menu and the quality of the food and wine - all excellent. I am a rather fussy diner - and I genuinely could not find fault. Breakfast the following morning was served in the Bistro and again the experience was good with the staff chatty and friendly and the breakfast fare on the mark. The management at this Hotel deserve a pat on the back - they employ the 'right' staff and must treat the staff fairly and manage them effectively to achieve the levels of motivation and commitment evident throughout the entire staff team. The Station Hotel Dumfries will certainly be my choice again when we next visit Dumfries.
