Diksmuide, situated in the middle of Flanders Fields, is a destination filled with sheer wonder. The cloth industry and dairy production once made this town rich. Hence you can still discover surprisingly picturesque corners while walking through the old town. Many monuments, cemeteries and trenches remind us of the horror of the First World War 1914-1918. The endless views invite you to walk or take a boat trip on the Yser. You will pass through enchanting villages, experience the openness of the region and admire the protected nature areas. At a 5 minute walk from the Market Place you'll find the Pax-tower, the Crypt and the Yser-tower (Ijsertoren). All together they form the European Peace domain. In this museum of 22 floors you get an idea how life was during the First World War. Smell the chloral and mustard gas, feel the fear of soldiers in the Trenches of Death. At a height of 84 meters you have a magnificent view over Diksmuide and the entire Westhoek region. 25,638 soldiers found their resting-place at the German Military Cemetery of Vladslo-Praetbos. The Mourning Parent is a moving sculpture by Käthe Kollwitz, an important German expressionistic artist. She created it out of sorrow and love for her 18 year old son Peter who was killed in the Great War. Diksmuide is the ideal accommodation place to discover the Battle Fields. You can reach Leper in 20 km, Brugge in 35 km. You can drive to Calais in 1 hour and 30 minutes, Zeebrugge in 1 hour. The seacoast in Newport is only 20 minutes away. We hope you will be interested in our town and us. If you are nearby don't hesitate to come and have a look. You're welcome! Enjoy your stay.

« Good quality, family run hotel »

We have just returned from visiting the WW1 Battlefields and stayed here for four nights. It is a lovely family run business- despite being part of a chain, the young couple were friendly and always happy to help and service was very efficient. The meals were varied and home made and the rooms were lovely and well kept. I would stay here again and recommend it to family and friends.

« Lovely clean family run hotel »

Although this is a Best Western hotel it is run by the family who originally built the place and sold it to Best Western so you get the best of both worlds - it's a young couple who obviously enjoy what they do because nothing is too much trouble. Very clean comfortable rooms, a nice bar if you want a drink as well. Breakfast is continental style and plenty of it if you wish. The hotel is a stones throw from Diksmuide town square where there are plenty of eats and drinks to be had in style. Great place for a small stay and highly recommended. Pretty central for doing tours of the area. Nice place. We had a room at the back of the hotel which was very quiet Room 201. Had a nice shower but no bath - some have baths with showers in them - beautifully clean and nicely built.

« European WWI and WWII Memorial Tour »

I highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting the area on business or as a tourist. It is close to the Canadian, British and other Commonwealth battle sites and Memorials. This is the first time I have rated a hotel this high as I have not experienced this outstanding service for the price paid. I highly recommend that you and your friends use this hotel as your home base, if you are in the area. Outstanding 10 in all aspects

« Great Hotel, Brilliant Staff »

My friend and I were in the area for WW1 Battle of the Somme trip. It was a busy weekend and we were lucky enough to get a room here, as the hotels closer were all fully booked. The price was very reasonable, the rooms clean and the beds comfy. It's not 5star decoration but it's great for the cost. The best thing about this hotel were the staff. So very friendly and helpful. Really great, they couldn't do enough to help and I really think we'll be back to visit again. I highly recommend this hotel, and the restaurant across the road does a beautiful steak!

« A pleasant hotel in a lovely Belgium town »

As this is the nearest Best Western hotel to the Dunkerque - Dover ferry we have stayed here a number of times. It is always clean with well appointed rooms and the staff are always friendly and helpful. There is always plenty to eat for breakfast. Whilst walking around the town on one occasion we came across a large commemorative board at the railway station telling how the townsfolk had released a train full of Jews and hid them in their homes and farms in 1944. As it was in Flemish we couldn't understand it all and the receptionist translated the whole story for us.

    « choir tour »

the hotel staff are all very helpful, rooms well appointed, breakfast buffet well-stocked, so is the bar! An ideal base for groups and individual visitors wanting to explore this part of Belgium, or visit world war one battlefield sites or cemeteries. Roy

    « School Trip »

Stayed there for a School Trip. Super well located , safe and ideal for excursion , you get you own place to be with your groups. Really good food and attention. Loved the placed , the people that run the hotel are always willing to help and they make sure that everything is perfect. Super recommended for a Battlefield trip.

    « convenient and friendly »

the hotel is located just off the main square so has easy access to restaurants and bars. There is parking outside which had been busy while a market was on in the square, but was clearing later on Saturday evening. The receptionist was concerned that a school party was in residence while we were staying so had thoughtfully given us a suite on the 4th floor where we would not be disturbed (the party was very well behaved - my compliments to the staff). The bar was quite small but there was a terrace which would have been pleasant in fine weather.

    « School Trip »

Our party arrived late in the evening following a long coach journey and this hotel was exactly what we all required! Well presented and comfortable rooms, clean bathrooms and courteous staff made our one night stay very relaxing and pleasurable. Both staff and students enjoyed dinner (the complementary bottle of wine drew rave reviews from the staff!) and breakfast the following morning. A good range of dishes, all well prepared and tasty. Thank you!

« Very pleasantly surprised, spotlessly clean, great breakfast and very comfortable beds »

I chose this hotel as it has parking, wifi and breakfast included in the cost. Photos online do not do this lovely little hotel justice. Our room was on the 4th floor, ample space in room and bathroom. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed and excellent selection at breakfast of eggs, fruits, yogurt, French bed, rolls, cereal, continental meats and cheese in abundance. Very grateful to have found tea and coffee making facilities in our room. This beautiful little hitel should be a 4 star! Very helpful lady on reception also. Will definitely be back soon.

« Friendly Hotel in a Great Location »

Situated close to the Grote Markt and the Ijzer Tower International Peace Centre, the hotel offers free parking, good sized, comfortable rooms and great views from some of the upper floors. The manageress Pauline speaks excellent English and is very helpful and attentive to detail and offers good advice on places to eat, places to visit, etc. A good hotel for business or leisure purposes.

    « first class »

Here as part of a 'Battlefields Experience' trip.Hotel was absolutely first class.Staff were exceptionally courteous and helpful.Hotel itself is spotless and obviously cared for.Continental breakfast was varied and there was plenty of it!

    « Exceeded our expections »

We used the hotel for a one night stay whilst visiting the battlefields of Ypres. Being from the UK I have very low expectations of the Best Western brand. Its without doubt the best, Best western I have stayed in and offered very good value for money. Modern, clean facilities, good sized room with a balcony, friendly manager and a good continental breakfast. I would have no hesitation staying again. The photo above does not do it justice. The market square of Diksmuide (circa 200 m away) was a delight with many great restaurants Highly recommended

« Clean and friendly, no frills hotel. Very good continental buffet breakfast. »

Used as a stopover en route to Germany. Very friendly and helpful staff/owner living on site. Room clean with no frills. Comfortable beds, quiet night's sleep. Decent buffet breakfast. Managed to park right outside hotel. Diksmuide is a lovely little town with a number of restaurants and bars.

    « School trip »

We came to Belgium on a Western Front trip. The staff were accommodating, friendly and the rooms clean and good for our size (49). Breakfast was a buffet, as was dinner. Lovely local town and close by (by car) to Ypres. Would recommend.

    « Friendly hotel »

this is an excellent family run hotel. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the bedrooms are clean and well maintained. The hotel is situated well for seeing World War One memorials and is only and couple of hours from France. The only let down was the food as it is just average but is still ok if your aren't into fine dinning. Overall I would strongly recommend.
