"Wonderful motel,great location"

Stayed at this motel when we were in Deadwood.We were welcomed by the friendly employees.They have a restaurant attached where we had dinner and breakfast.It was very good.There was an Vintage motorcycle in town(we didn't know that).My husband is a motorcyclists and we sat outside on a huge second floor patio/balcony and watched all of the motorcycles.

I am surprised at some of the negative reviews, as we had a very positive experience at this motel. Yes, it is older but we found our room and the surrounding spaces to be very clean. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner in the attached restaurant. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly. We would definitely return here.

Check in went well, Jesus was friendly and welcoming. The room was small but very clean. Furniture old, marred and scratched. Definitely needs replaced. We visited the attached restaurant where we found dead, smashed flies stuck to the window beside the booth where we were seated, as well as numerous live ones buzzing around us. My husband ordered chili and neither he nor I could eat it because it was so spicy. We were not charged for it, the beer was nice and cold and the little server was sweet. We were given coupons valid for 25% off breakfasts for both mornings of our stay. Needless to say, they were not used. The worst aspect of our stay at Hickok House was the fact that free wi fi was advertised, however, it was non-existent. We never, at any time, were able to access the internet. I feel this is false advertising. We had been on the road 10 days at this point in time, so were really anxious to connect with friends and family back home. Clerk at desk upon check out was very nice. However, I was glad to bid Hickok House farewell and move on.

It is an older hotel, but clean and comfortable. We arrived without a reservation. Most of the hotels were full or outrageusly priced for the Kool Deadwood car show. Best Western offered a reasonable rate.We were just passing through. Restaurant offered good food at reasonable prices.

"Two Nights in Deadwood"

This is an older property which could use some updating. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the internet service was poor. There is no complimentary breakfast at this hotel, but there is a restaurant attached. We had breakfast there both mornings and the food was good. Nobody offered us a 25% discount on breakfast at the restaurant as I see other reviewers have posted. I don't need a lot of frills and it was okay for the two nights we were there, but if I ever went back I think I would stay somewhere else.

The best western in Deadwood has a very nice room with lots of space. The kings bad is very comfertable and has lots of space. The lightning in room is not very good. There is no breakfast in the hotel but a discount in a restaurant.

"Not What we Expected"

The staff were great but it wasn't one of my favorite places. There was to much smoking in the area outside our room. People talking until wee hours of the morning outside our door. Best Western usually has free breakfast but this place only gave a 25% discount because there was a restaurant connected to it. Not much to do in Deadwood. We stayed here thinking it was a central location for our plans to visit Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Reptile Gardens and Custer Park but should have gone further south. Hand to hold toilet handle down to flush and the shower was very very low pressure. This is an older hotel that needs some upgrading

"Good hotel with a good nights sleep"

I would love to give this hotel 4 stars because I slept well and they were helpful but there were just too many issues I had to deal with while staying there. All were handled quickly, efficiently and with many apologies, only problem I would rather not have needed any apologies. It started when I tried to book a room. I was told it was booked but I never received a confirmation email. I waited a day or two and called back only to find out nothing was booked. That was corrected with multiple apologies. When we arrived and checked in. The room given to us was a smoking room even though I had requested a non-smoking room. The room was so bad it burned my eyes and nostrils just opening the door, I never set foot inside. I returned to the front desk and they graciously changed my room with many apologies. Next came our new room. There was an issue with the towels in the room. When I called the front desk, again many apologies and even more when they came to exchange the towels. Lets see we're up to 3 separate issues which needed apologies but we're not done yet. Next morning we're eating in the restaurant and realize others have discount vouchers for breakfast. After asking we were told they were in the envelope when you checked in. We got the envelope but didn't get any vouchers so back to the front desk and again multiple apologies. The room itself was nice, beds comfortable. The noise from the road can be loud at times so you might want ear plugs. The shower leaves a bit to be desired but it was functional. The toilet worked great if you remembered to hold down the handle for a while. Would I stay here again? Probably each issue was taken care of to my satisfaction. The quirkiness of the shower and toilet were just slight annoyances.

"Helpful Staff"

Stayed here for 2 nights while in the area. Deadwood is not really centrally located for most sites but suited our travels. Rooms were ok, no fridge so bring a cooler. Ice available in 2 locations and also can buy larger quantities if needed. A bit of a walk into town ( 10 - 15min ) but their is also a trolley that runs often that will take you around and into town ( $1 per person per ride ). During our stay they had a 3 wheeler / trike rally and was neat to see all the motorcycles and the friendly participants. Both day and night staff were very friendly and helpful with directions, suggestions and when the coffee maker didn't work 1 morning Jesus had a replacement and helped right away although they do have coffee in the lobby. No breakfast included here but on site restaurant ( BW gives 25% discount coupon per person per night stay ). Would stay again if in the area.

"Deadwood SD hotel experience"

Traveling with grandchildren, we arrived without a reservation and met an extremely accommodating reception during check-in. Settled on 2 adjoining rooms. Rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. This hotel is not in the center of Deadwood's action, which is exactly what we were looking for. Although directly on the highway, it was not as noisy as hotels closer to downtown or part of a casino complex. We would definitely return here.

Motel was a great place to stay and convenient to many motorcycle rides! It is directly on the trolley line to transport you to downtown Deadwood, providing handy access to restaurants and casinos. Attached restaurant has quality excellent food for reasonable pricing and fantastic staff.

Our room was nice and the staff was very helpful at check in, too. The rooms are a little "weary and dated," but everything was clean and it worked for us. The Deadwood Trolley picked us up right out front. We walked back from downtown (our choice) as it was about a mile. Everyone has a chair outside there room, too. At night, we sat on the sidewalk outside our room visiting with fellow guests. Very nice atmosphere. We would stay here again.

This BW is about 6 blocks from downtown and really enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle. It was very clean with a super comfortable bed. I only gave it 4 stars because it didn't have a fridge or microwave in the room. It also had a great view.

We stayed here with some friends and had beautiful rooms with tasteful decor. We loved the historical feel that was maintained while not sacrificing our comfort. We will be back to visit again. the food was also good

This for us was the best place to stay in Deadwood, it is away from the buy town centre and it's casinos. Our room was large and quiet. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable. The trolley stop is right outside so there is no need to take the car out. Staff were helpful.

We stayed one night in March and the room was very nice, bar/lounge was nice and we had a very friendly bartender. She gave us some great advice, told us about the trolley that runs often all over town. There was an ice/snow issue but the owner was working tireless on the parking lot to remove ice. That was much appreciated.

No problems. Clean and quiet. Would be nice to have shuttle service available when busses are too full to stop. But the weather was nice and walk wasn't too bad. Nice to have a lounge and restaurant connected.

Had a great New Years stay at the BW Hickok House; staff is amazing, very helpful and friendly. The restaurant staff was very friendly and even when they were busy, kept their spirits up. The lounge staff was friendly as well. Our room was comfortable, somewhat dated, but still comfy and cozy.

Amanda was one of the kindest front desk women I've ever had a chance to talk to, as was the morning staff that I had the pleasure to meet. It was easy to get to, quiet and a little apart from town, with a trolley pickup and a tasty restaurant right beside it. I would definitely come back.

They were having a convention in town and we had no reservations which we didn't think we needed mid October. They got us in the last room and it was great. The staff was very nice and accommodating and the housekeeper need to be commended. Very clean and nothing missed. Thanks for a great last minute stay. We will return.

"Early October visit"

My husband and I traveled the Black Hills area for the week to celebrate our anniversary. We did not plan rooms ahead. We just decided to stop here for a room and hoped for the best. It was about what we expected. The room was OK and it was very clean. This time of year it was pretty quiet. At fist they sent us to a room around the corner with a shared door for 2 rooms. I went right back and asked for another room or to refund me and I can check another place. I did have the front desk gal a bit confused but she found us another room. (she did run my card twice, but that got fixed.) We prefer to stay in cabins, but this worked fine for the night. The little café there had a wonderful breakfast and the service was good too. I would not want to stay there again, but it isn't because of the room. We just prefer a cabin. This place could use a facelift, but again, it was very clean!

I have stayed here before, but this is the first time in the fall. The rate was great for a very basic room. I did not have a microwave or fridge , but I didn't need one. The staff members were pleasant, welcoming and knowledgable of the area. The restaurant served a very hearty breakfast at a reasonable price. Ample parking and the shuttle into town stops right in front of the restaurant . I will stay here again.

Small, however, enjoyable. The staff were friendly and the machines returned enough to keep you playing. Not a Las Vegas Casino, however, for Deadwood serves the purpose. There are, however, other options that may prove more beneficial for your wallet.

"The worst place to stay ever...AVOID! "

We had to get our keys relayed over & over again. There are thick spider webs on the back side of the bathroom door. The commode doesn't flush properly & they could care less. Never ever stay here. The only thing I have to say nice about it is that every maid I saw was very friendly & the restaurant workers did a great job. You could also try out the restaurant because their food wasn't half bad.

We moved you to another room to help with the issues you were having with the keys. We have checked the lock and it is working correctly. I am sorry it was such a problem for you. I made a reservation for your hotel with the 800 reservation line. I told the reservationist I must have a ground floor as I am unable to climb stairs due to multiple sclerosis (MS). The reservationist indicated she could not guarantee but reached out to the hotel. After the call, I immediately reached out to the hotel. I spoke with Amanda. Once I explained that I have MS and unable to go up/down stairs, she was more than happy to accommodate my needs. She indicated she would move some folks around so I could have a ground floor. I also advised I would be arriving after 9 pm. My husband and I arrived at the hotel after 10 PM. Amanda checked us into room 112 and provided the key. We had not had anything to eat since all day, so we went into town to grab a bite before taking our things to our room. Upon return to room 112 we could not enter. Our key didn't work. My husband went to the front desk twice! The second time, the front desk clerk sent the maintenance person who tried the key. THAT'S WHEN THE CURTAIN MOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOUR FRONT DESK STAFF GAVE OUR ROOM AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only options offered was a ground floor SMOKING ROOM or 2nd floor room. First of all, SMOKING IS DISGUSTING! I do not smoke. I do not subject myself to smoke or people that smoke. There is no way I'd stay in a smoking room! Second of all, I CANNOT CLIMB STAIRS! Since neither of those were options for us, we chose to leave and seek another hotel room ... at midnight!!!! We had been awake since 4 AM Central time -- which included 4 hours airport/flying time and 12 hours of driving time. Saying we were TIRED would be an understatement. We finally secured a room at another hotel and got into bed at almost 1 AM spending over $150 for a poor quality room!!!! Best Western is our hotel of choice. We drove over an hour further than we needed to stay at Best Western Hickok House just because it's a Best Western property. The management does not seem to be concerned that their error was a huge inconvenience. I requested Best Western Reward Points equivalent to a 1 nights stay plus an additional 20,000 rewards points a "bonus" to compensate me for the error and inconvenience. They have have not awarded the 20,000 points ... "I have spoke with my supervisor and I am not able to add anymore." In my opinion, an additional 20,000 rewards points is not too much to ask considering the error and huge inconvenience.

Your reservation did come over online with a ground floor request that stated you were aware it was not guaranteed. We did our best to accommodate you. We did have computer glitch that showed a room available that was not available. The guests had been in the room for hours prior to your arrival. We had one room left on the ground floor and it was a smoking room which you preferred not to take. We cancelled your reservation for you at no cost because we could not meet your needs and gave you the 32000 points it would have cost you to stay here. I am terribly sorry for the inconveniences.

Clean but, aged hotel. Good staff and reasonably priced. Handy restaurant that is connected to the hotel with unbelievable staff. The food is good. Trolley stop right outside the hotel to go downtown. Recommend a good place to stay.

We were disappointed with this BW compared to others we have stayed at. There was a hole where the fridge should have been. Very unfinished. The best part of this hotel was the shuttle taking you to the main street stopped right in the front which was very convenient.

We have purchased some furnishings that have placing for fridges in the future so that we may eventually add them. Deadwood does provide a great trolley system for our guests. "Clean - Low Budget Hotel"

We stayed at the Best Western Hickoc House from July 26-29. The rooms were clean, but were dated. They could use some new carpet and paint in the rooms. We had a second floor room which was quite nice as it had a huge balcony which was shared with about 4 other rooms, but had patio tables and chairs. It was a nice place to sit and have a coffee or a drink. The maintenance man is always working, taking care of watering plants or fixing something here or there. He takes great pride in his work and does a great job. The restaurant serves very good food, we had breakfast as well as snacks one evening. The waitress made a mistake on our breakfast order and was very quick to correct it and make sure everything was taken care of. They seem to have great staff there, they are very buys and remember repeat customers each day! One drawback is that there are no fridges in the rooms, would be handy to have a nice little bar fridge to put some drinks and snacks in. The hotel is a little far from downtown, but we were able to catch the trolley for $1. It picks up and drops off a few times each hour. Overall, for the price we would likely stay here again.

I am not sure how this hotel has a 3 star rating, it was like the Bate's Motel. No joking it has pane glass windows, old, stinks, and the bathroom is 2×4 size you can't close the door when you try to use toilet.

Had stayed here about 10 years ago. Not at all like I remembered it. Pretty run down with little or no amenities. Doesn't serve hard liquor in the bar. Our A/C quit and had to be moved to another room. The hot tub didn't work properly only two jets were working. This hotel is in serious need of a total makeover.

We are looking into the hot tub concerns you expressed, just sorry that you did not mention it while you were here. unfortunately on occasion things do stop working, The ac in your room did quit and was not able to be fixed right away (needed a part). I understand the inconvenience of having to pack all you belongings up and moving to another room. we are just happy we had another room we could move you into. Deadwood only allows a certain number of liquor licenses. You have to wait for a business to forfeit their license before you can apply for one and unfortunately that does not happen very often. We do have a beer/ wine license to help accommodate our guests. Againwe are terribly sorry you were disappointed in your stay with us.

From the time I made reservations, every person was super nice and helpful. This isn't a new hotel by any means, but it's kept very nice and clean. Linda and Shannon were very helpful with accommodating a special accessbility request, which made my stay much easier! Being a BW Rewards member, I was dissapointed that this hotel didn't offer refrigerators or microwaves. And - the ice 'buckets' in the rooms, did not have lids, which was odd. Comparatively, for the price, with other BW's, the facility is lower caliber. The location and parking are good, and away from the hustle and bustle, and also on the Deadwood Trolley route, which was convenient.

Loved sitting on the outdoor deck and watch the motorcycles ride by. Bus/trolley stop is right at the hotel making it very convenient to go to downtown Deadwood without being in all the action. Staff was great!

A nice and clean hotel just outside of town. Shuttles to bring you to Main Street that run into the early mornings for convenience. A restaurant on premise so you can easily grab some food food and be on your way. Enjoyable time.

"Overpriced"

Our room smelled, there are no microwaves or refrigerators in the room. It seemed to be a party stop for most people, we were woke up bed drunk people coming back after the bars closed and someone vomiting across from our room. The bartender in the casino wad rude when I asked if the restaurant was open.

I am terribly sorry that you were disappointed in your stay with us. It is completely unacceptable for any staff to be rude to any guest. This is being addressed to avoid it every happening again. We do not have microwaves or fridges in any of our rooms. We wish you would have told us you felt your room had an odor while you were here so that we could address it for your by moving you to a different room so we could investigate the cause. At the time you were here Deadwood was celebrating the Days of '76. This is celebrating the founding of Deadwood. We have a huge PRCA rodeo in town and people do have a good time and yes sometimes they get carried away, if a guest does let us know someone is loud or acting inappropriately we will address that immediately. We do want all of our guests to enjoy their time with us.

This hotel was about what you'd expect for the cheapest hotel in Deadwood. it wasn't on the main strip. but there was a trolley stop or, if you felt like walking it wasn't too far, maybe 3/4 of a mile. cab rides to or from the strip were $12, if it was late or you didn't want to wait for the trolley. The rooms were fine. good water pressure in the shower. the restaurant on site was not that great. dirty coffee cups (two in one visit) and the gravy was weird. some of the staff was super friendly, some seemed as if they were at the end of a long shift or something.

Property does not have an elevator, pool or breakfast. It is old and not kept up to date. Reservations were totally messed up with no apparent care or offerings. when room location and type were discussed with staff we were told online reservations are filled last. one couple was put in a small single queen and charged for king or 2 queen price. during check out we total our reservation request was filed but not adhered too. not compensation was offered. think they have a cash cow due to location to Mt Rushmore and Sturgis.

We are terribly sorry that we were unable to accommodate you with your requests. your reservations came over to us as one smoking room and one nonsmoking room. We offered several options to get the smoking room into a nonsmoking room and was able to switch one room to the ground floor for you. I always recommend calling the hotel directly as soon as you make the reservations if using someone other the hotel. We received no requests with your reservation or we would have honored them and if we could not honor them we would have called you. Our reservations are assigned rooms in the order they are made as this is checked daily. We do not change rooms from smoking to nonsmoking or nonsmoking to smoking to accommodate someone who may have booked thru us directly. I looked into the pricing for your rooms and both rooms were two queen nonsmoking and you were charged the rate for those rooms. Again we are terribly sorry that we failed to meet your expectations and apologize whole heartedly because we truly want all of our guests to enjoy their time with us.

This "hotel" should be labled a motel. We have stayed with many BW and by far this one was awful. The staff we great, but did not make up for the fact that our room, although clean, still smelled musty and old, decor was old, and the room had no microwave or fridge. This foeced us to eat at the high priced reaturant that offered no discounts for ataying at the hotel which was joined to it. They offered no breakfast to its patrons. This was not a great hotel. We love BW but would not ever stay here again.

We have stayed at this Best Western several times and the location is great and the staff is always helpful and friendly. The restaurant there is always good. When we hear tourists looking for a hotel in Deadwood to stay at we always recommend Best Western.

We were pleasantly surprised. This is an older hotel but the rooms are very clean and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was great. Their knowledge of the area helped us see most of the attractions . We will come back for sure

"Not up to BW Standards"

Why do I stay at BW properties? Breakfast included, basic amenities, comfortable beds. NOT here. Breakfast is not included because there is an attached unaffiliated cafe. No discount for staying at BW so add a he cost of breakfast to your hotel stay. Basic amenities were missing. For example, there was no lotion or hair conditioner. Towels were rough. Etc Bed was horrible. I could feel the springs and could not get comfortable all night. This hotel should not be branded as a BW. So disappointing. Do not stay here

We do not offer a complimentary breakfast because we do feel a made to order meal far surpasses the quality of a continental breakfast where the food sits over warmers. The restaurant that is attached is affiliated with our hotel. Indeed you do need to figure in the cost for breakfast to your stay but in most cases that will still save you money from most of our competitors. Our shampoo is a conditioning shampoo and we do have lotion available upon request for our guests. We are sorry that you did not let us know you did not find the bed comfortable. "An Older Property but well maintained"

This was our first trip to Deadwood and we were very pleased with the accommodations at Best Western Hickok House. You must be aware that this is NOT a Best Western Plus...it is an older property....there is no free breakfast and no swimming pool but it was a pleasant place to stay, very nice accommodating staff that treated us like family. The only complaint I might have is that the sound of the people in the floor above us was very obvious at night as we started to go to sleep. But it never kept us awake or bothered us too much. There is an excellent restaurant that is part of the complex and their breakfasts are excellent. The menu for lunch and dinner is not huge but what we had was tasty. We would stay there again in a heart beat.

The room here was nice and clean, however, the heating system was broken and was not mentioned to us at check-in. It was cool and drizzly and we were cold in our room. We reported it and they did send someone down with a portable heater and it did the trick. We could not get on internet at night and reported that but was told that the office could get on and offered not other help. We were able to get on in the morning however. Disappointed that breakfast was not included as with most all of BW hotels.

Must have bought another motel. Room was average except for NO Refrigerator and NO Microwave. BW used to be consistently good properties, where I could count on every room having all the basics such as firm bed, TV, Air-conditioning, a Refrigerator, and microwave. Most BW's have “free” Breakfast; not here. But there is an adjoining restaurant – no discount coupon to eat there either. Thin Ceilings - can hear the people above us. Friendly staff, good house keepers, but Next time we are in town, we'll try one of their competitors.

Nice place. Don't expect a 5 star establishment. Can't be beaten for the price on a holiday weekend. Nice rooms, decor could use some updating. Internet was unreliable at best. Staff was helpful and friendly.

Nothing fancy average motel but the week-end price jumps up quite a bit. Service was good, friendly people work here.Beware it can get noisy with all the Bikers that stay here, reving up their engines early morning and late at night.

Front desk staff was very nice...room was a little dark, dreary and dated. The restaurant was horrible. Service was bad and food was worse. We will not stay at this one again. Not one of the better Best Western. Again, hotel staff at front desk was very accommodating but that is where the quality ended. Pass this BW by if going to Deadwood.

We were staying in Lead and looking for breakfast. This place was recommended and was a good choice. No frills restaurant attached to the Best Western hotel. Basic breakfast with eggs, sausage or bacon and hash browns. They also serve pancakes . Food was good for a decent price and the staff was friendly.

Motel has a great location needs a facelift!! Not in keeping with the Not the Best Western motels i am used to! Phone hotel to get desired location of room, dont book online-phone directly if you need a ground floor room and to check prices as Booking.com charges weekend rates for all days! Restaurant staff were great and fast and "Hank" the dog was a nice presence.

Employees were exceptionally mice and helpful. They went out of their way to ensure a great experience. Rooms were clean and quiet. Would have liked it better if internet worked better and refrigerators in the rooms. Otherwise no complaints what so ever. Enjoyed visiting with the Maintenance Man and Hank every evening. Loved sitting outside of the room in the evening and morning and looking at the beautiful environment. Very relaxing and great location. Highly recommend and we will stay again. The restaurant and casino staff were also very friendly.

We had reservations to stay at the Comfort Inn, but the day before we were to go on vacation they called to let us know that there had been a water main break and had hoped to be open before we were to stay, but would not be until the 8th of June. This left us trying to find a hotel for 2 nights starting the next day, I was worried. I checked out most of the places in town, but they were full already as they often do fill up fast and there was a Deadwood 5k, half marathon and marathon race in town the next day. After frantically searching I came upon the Hickok House and they had rooms available so I reserved right away to ensure we had a room as my wife was running the 5k and she did not want to miss this. I was not sure what to expect as I had never stayed here before, but I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, the hot tub was just the right temp and we even tried out the casino which was small but nice. As this was a family vacation we had our 2 boys along as well and they had eaten chips in the room, so there was a mess on the floor. When we went to the race to watch my wife, housekeeping had come in and vacuumed up the floor, made the beds and nicely stacked the boy's toys onto the bed. We were very happy that we found this place and would be happy to stay here again.

The room was dated. There was no fridge, microwave, or breakfast, unlike other Best Western Motels. It was supposed to be non-smoking, but it was right next to a smoking area for the restaurant next door, so it smelled of smoke. The room as clean and the service was good.

Deadwood has a lot of options for hotels, but hotels downtown all require parking in city lots located around. This hotel has its own parking lot and i parked in front of my room. it is biker friendly and has clean off rags available. A few chairs outside to sit at and laundry facilities were clean. there are better restaurants to be had in town but it was convenient to eat here, staff was friendly.

Friendly staff, clean room. Rooms were good for an economy style accommodation. Service was friendly. When I'm back in Deadwood I will head straight back to Hickok House. Shops and activities are all within walking distance as well.

Rooms were clean. Staff were polite. Hotel in its self needs to be up-dated. Is an older hotel on the edge of the downtown area. Had good trolley service. Restaurant was average, bar and casino was not what I expected. Machines were not very friendly.

Relatively alright hotel. Further away from town. So nice and quiet for sleep. Although it's near the end of town, dead wood is NOT large and everything is still walking distance. Or u can pay $1/pp to ride the trolley. Staff was good, room was adequate. My room was a large room. 2 queen bed; but yet there are still so much room. But the decor is empty and TV is WAY too small for this room. I can't see comfortably when sitting on the bed or table. For the price charge for this hotel. I though it should either come with breakfast or discount at the restaurant. Having said that the stag was friendly and easy to deal with.

"Not Glamourous but functional"

We dropped in to Deadwood for a couple of days only to realize that Deadwood rolls up the streets in March. Most of the places were closed or open part time. Since we couldn't find much to do we left the area early. As for the Hotel. It served it's purpose. First and foremost t was clean. The staff was nice and the restaurant was good. No free breakfast. You are on your own there but the food wasn't overpriced and it was good. For the price it was a good stop.

Even though this property is older and the decor dated, it is very very clean and well maintained. The restaurant attached is not very large but the food is great. We had the pleasure of meeting Pam, our server! Such a great way to start your morning with her positive attitude and energy! Staying here will not disappoint! We will definately be returning!

Just your basic average BW, nothing fancy. No free breakfast. The staff was friendly and check-in was quick and easy. The trolley stops in front of the hotel, so quick easy on and off to get to the center of town.

This is a nice basic hotel that is well located for visiting the many sights in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Lots to see and do here and this hotel makes it easy. There is restaurant attached to the hotel, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food, while nothing fancy, was well prepared and reasonably priced. Rooms were clean and the desk staff quite helpful in pointing out things to see and do in the area.

Just need a simple roof for the night. This did the trick. No problems and nothing fancy. Spent most of the night down town with friends. Rode the trolley which stopped at the motel. Clean room and Friendly staff.

Fantastic & friendly staff. So accommodating. Went above & beyond to reserve extra rooms & move our rooms to accommodate our party. They didn't act like it was an inconvenience, even though we had to make a couple of changes.

This was one of the best time we've had in a long time,some friends came with us for a great weekend.Plus this was are 9 years anniversary. The Best Western Hickok House is not to far from are house,it's a Great place for weekend getaway!

We are never disappointed when we stay at the Hickok House. The reservation was easy and check in was just as easy. The rooms are clean and the made service is awesome. We ate several meals at the cafe. The food was great and the staff was very friendly and made us feel at home once again. We stayed here two years ago with our grand daughter. Everyone remembered us. That really made us feel good. Everyone at the Hickok House made us feel welcome and appreciated. Once again we got a Bang for our Buck!!! Thank You for a great experience.!!!

Is the a 6 star hotel, no but it's not a five star price either. This is a basic hotel with Awesome, excellent customer service. The front desk, picked up our deliveries, told us the best places to go (they were never wrong) and displayed a great sense of pride in the work they do. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. Very nice hotel and the front desk people could teach a few things to some of the Marriott hotels I've been it.

"Older hotel but consistently clean"

We have stayed at this hotel many times. We like having the parking lot near the rooms and it is close to a great restaurant and on the shuttle route. It is older and is showing some age. The rooms are clean and we usually get the room placement we request. That didn't happen for this weekend. We were placed on the 2nd floor, a long distance from the hot tub. Hot tub closes at 10:00. We had issues getting our door unlocked and were told we had to be gentle with the key card entry system. However, I believe they worked on it because the second day it worked much better.

We recently stayed at the Best Western in Deadwood and had nothing but problems! The rate was changed from the original reserved rate when we went to check in, then again when we checked out of the hotel! I've never had a hotel change a rate like this!! Not only did they jack the rate, the owner refused to talk to us about the sudden rate increase. In addition to the ridiculous price increases, the showers were COLD, pillows old and worn, staff was grumpy and refused to provide extra towels, and heater was temperamental! Stay somewhere, ANYWHERE else!!!!

I would like to start by apologizing for not exceeding your expectations. I do understand that when you encounter problems it takes away from your enjoyment. I would like to address the concerns you mentioned. When you made your reservation you made it for two people to be in the room, you did have four guests in the room. Our rates are based on occupancy as well as room type. You also changed the dates of your reservation which also has an effect on your rates. Our staff was trying to do the best they could to make your stay pleasant. Our maintenance department had to remove a toilet to get a washcloth out of the drain line that the male guests in your room told them they accidently flushed don the toilet. During our many interactions with you while you were with us we were never told about the shower not being hot, nor did you let us know of the other complaints you have listed. Our staff was readily available to help you with all your needs and concerns you had mentioned to us. We understand that you will choose other lodging when you are in Deadwood however we hope that you will still consider Best Western Hotels for you future lodging needs in the future. I am again very sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations and hope that the New Year is kind to you.

Recently stayed at the Best Western in Deadwood. Most hotels stated they were booked for the weekend this was untrue not sure what was up with that. Glad it happened though as this was a true gem in Deadwood South Dakota. We were upgraded to a King room non-smoking in the corner very quiet very private and well-kept. The front desk staff offered us many suggestions on where to go, what to see and what to do. We only had one issue with the room and that was a cleaning issue which was taking care of the next day and made up for with extra care and attention taken to the room. We would like to take the time to thank the front desk staff that checked us in, the cleaning staff which kept our room very clean, the front parking lot was always clean and they even had a wonderful dog that was there to greet us. We both travel quite extensively; would not hesitate to stay at this establishment again.

We were on a road trip with family and needed to find a place to stay with a reasonable cost. This one fit the bill. The room was clean and the WIFI worked, so it suited our needs for visiting this historic town. We stayed 2 nights and would return again. The restaurant was great for breakfast too!

We've stayed here several times and never had a problem with the rooms. They are a bit dark even with all the lights on but clean which is what we care about. Most importantly though, these folks are ethical. We did have an issue and Lynda, the manager, did what it took to make things right. We really appreciated it and we will be back! Thank you!!

This hotel has been a great place to stay the last two times we have been to Deadwood. Our room was in a strange location, but it was very quiet and clean. The staff at check-in was slow, and had problems checking in, and also does not know how to make reservations using Best Western points. This is a problem, and I was not happy when I first called the hotel. I personally work at a Best Western elsewhere, and I know how to manage the free nights using points. It wouldn't have been such a big deal, but this is the second time I have stayed there, and it would be the second time the employee didn't know how to make a reservation using BW reward points.

On a road trip in the Black Hills in early October and decided to stay here as we had had a good Best Western experience earlier in the week. Not so lucky here, although the price was reasonable (around $70). We were in room 106, which, as a couple of other reviewers have described, was in the corner near the bar/casino and restaurant. It shared an entryway with room 107 and when the guest staying there left his room at the same time I did, we had to juggle closing doors and getting out of each other's way. Outside door was also difficult to open with the card key. Our room was adequate and clean, with a king bed that was comfortable. Television, refrigerator and decent bedside reading lights. Basic toiletries in the bathroom, which was fairly small, and towels were reasonable. The attached restaurant/diner was obviously a local hangout. We had a light lunch and then an early dinner there. Service was friendly and reasonably efficient, although one party left as they were in a hurry, as did another couple, but that was due to no gluten-free options. Haven't had liver and onions in ages, and it was pretty good, although too much food (first world problem). Decided we would go elsewhere for breakfast the morning we left. Location suited us as we were not interested in the gambling activity on Main Street. A good 15 minute walk into town, but the free trolley service stopped at the motel every half hour. Would imagine this is a much quieter location in the height of the tourist season. To sum up - very average, but quiet, rooms, friendly and efficient employees, and good value for money. I would not seek it out again, but certainly would not hesitate to stay if necessary.

This hotel is very good for the money. Would probably stay in it again. The bed was very comfortable and the room was nice and clean. We did not eat in the restaurant but when we were leaving it was very busy. Parking spaces could be a little bigger because we had a big pickup and space was a little too tight. Pleased with overall stay.

We were quite surprised by this hotel. . .very modest, low ceilings, off the beaten track, but we had the quietest room we have had in a long time - tucked in the corner near the restaurant, but part of a two room hallway (kind of unusual). Quiet room, comfortable bed, friendly staff - including the housekeeping staff!

The staff is really friendly and helpful. The only problem with this hotel is that it is a bit tired looking. It needs spruced up a bit and it would be the perfect place to stay in Deadwood. The location is excellent if you don't want to be in the heart of the activity and is a nice walk from the downtown. Love riding the trolley.

Door locking mechanism not working properly was reported to front desk. Later on that day the front desk said that maintenance was sent to repair. However, the problem was not fixed. As long as I stayed in the room, I could use the deadbolt. Once I left the room, the door would not latch, therefor left unlocked in my absence. Front desk said that previous guest reported same problem. If it were actually fixed the first time it wouldn't have happened to me, the previous guest, and probably the next guest. Very disappointed with all aspects of this hotel. Attached restaurant had very poor service and it wasn't even busy !

This is an older property that TRIED to be updated to BW quality, but failed. No fridge or microwave. There was room for them but poor planning and furnishing choices didn't allow for it. Poor lighting and a shortage of outlets made for an inconvenient stay. We had to take the coffee maker into the bath to make coffee, no plug by the table! On site casino and restaurant which was nice. Food was good and reasonable. No comment on the casino. I must say that all the personnel were great, which accounts for the average rating. Over priced in my opinion too.

Our room was number 106 very pleasant room, hotel has outdoor corridors but room 106 is through a lobby door that is shared with room 107 only. Good hotel clean and tidy, only dissappointment believed we booked room and breakdast but was told no only room so breakfast was extra. Breakfast was good though and worth the money. The added bonus to this hotel is that the trolly bus stops here. Plenty to see and do in Deadwood, we caught the trolly bus ($1) into town for the evening entertainment - had a pre-dinner drink at Silverado while watching the 6pm gun shoot out, walk up main street, had dinner in Midnight Star (which is owned by Kevin Costner and has loads of memorabilia), then had an after dinner drink at Saloon 10 - continued walk up main street and caught trolly back to hotel.

I got sick elsewhere and this is where we relocated to. Mold free (had allergic reaction at last place). Non smoking room but didn't smell that way. Slight burns in curtains only vise able when light came through just right. Garbage not emptied completely from last people, had a stinky chewing tobacco pouch in the garbage can liner. I get it, save a bag, but if it's Shiri dirty change it. Customer service plus, is why I'm giving it 4 for rating!!

My room was dusty, old, small, poorly decorated, and overpriced. Seems like tourist season is over after labor day, but the prices stay inflated. Nothing good to say, heard all the street noises and loud guests from my first floor room. No frig or micro in room. No continental breakfast. Not too close to town, especially when it is cold out. Heater in room did not work well either. Being there for one night, it's not worth complaining about.

We are located just 3/4 of a miles from Main Street. There is trolley service you can use. It does cost $1.00 per person to ride it each time you get on it , if you do not want to walk. There is also several cab companies in town that will be glad to bring you to the hotel for a small fee. We have a full service restaurant on-site that is offers a wonderful breakfast selection. We do feel that a made to order breakfast is the best way to start your day. We do not have fridges or microwaves in our rooms at this time and if this is an important amenity for you I do strongly urge you to make sure the hotel has them available. We have maintenance staff available 24 hours to assist with any heating and cooling issues that could arise. We would have gladly done our best to make your room comfortable for you. I am so sorry that we were not able to meet your expectations but do appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your stay.

BLUF: Local, Professional, Delicious Stopped in at the local dinner this morning with my family for breakfast. You can tell that it's a local's joint and for good reason. The breakfast was outstanding! The pancake was nearly an inch thick and 12" around; thick cut bacon; crispy hash brown... You get the point. If that's not enough to peak your attention, the charisma and professionalism of the staff should be. Even the owners, Pat and Annie Roberts, came over to ask about how our experience was. The staff at this hotel have been there forever, and are fantastic at what they do. I would highly recommend for that reason. The facilities are well maintained and it is near a trolley stop. The patios are nice and the cost is much less than staying downtown.

I had a chicken fried steak and a baked potato and my wife had the liver with a baker. Both meals came with a salad. Big portions well made food. Reasonable prices. The staff was friendly. Would recommend for a family meal not too fancy.

Deadwood, S.D., has lots of places to stay in the medium price range. We chose the Best Western over one of the newer places strictly because of the summer $50 gift card offer. The place has been there since before gambling ever arrived and it shows it. It is located away from the Down Town casinos and has put in its own gaming area with a Lounge of sorts next to a really overpriced restaurant. There are none of the little "add ons" we have came accustomed to having, such as a mini fridge as well as the coffee maker, which, by the way, was good. Forget a "free" continental breakfast---their restaurant is it, and it has a very limited menu and slow service. But, the room---it shows its beginnings in the 1960-70 era that has been remodeled several times. The room is large enough for a King bed as it had doubles back in the day, and the bath has been given grab bars by the toilet---three of them in fact---but when the tub was replaced it was with the smallest (probably cheapest) model they could find. It is impossible for a person weighing more than 150 pounds to be comfortable bathing, plus the problem of getting out of this mini tub with no grab bars in the front or the side other than one molded into the back part of the tub. The management did provide an aging rubber bath mat for safety, but no bars. One of the ads we saw was very inviting to motorcyclist. To their benefit they were quiet except for their arrival and departure. The people in the room above must have been on the Olympic tumbling team but they did quiet down after 11:00 p.m. and did not waken until after 6:00 a.m. so the night hours were relatively quiet. The price of this gem was the same as Cadillac Jack down the street. You do have a fridge, elevator, full casino and a nice dining room. Why, oh why did we not stay there? Because of the $50 come on, that's why!!!!

We have stayed here six times since 1994. We keep coming back due to the friendly staff, nice setting in the Black Hills, and close to downtown Deadwood. We can walk to most places in town. This motel also has a small casino that's fun to spend time in and just a few steps to your room. It is also an easy drive to other attractions in the Black Hills due to it's central location.

"Older hotel - near downtown"

This is an older typical hotel from the 60s/70s with outside entrances. The rooms are large and clean. My only real complaint is that there was no way to regulate the temperature in the room. You can adjust the fan speed but not the temperature. We needed to warm up the room and there was no way to do this. The "casino" attached to the hotel consist of some machines with very LOW payouts. Pretty tame!! The accompanying restaurant was OK. It is small and we had to wait 10 minutes for a table. The staff there were quite pleasant. The food is OK, but a little pricey for what you got. The trolley to downtown Deadwood stops right out in front of the hotel.

Thank you for your review. It is hard to hear that we did not meet your expectations and you left disappointed with some areas of your stay. I Wish you you would have let us know that you had heating issues as we do have a maintenance person who would have gladly helped you with the heating. Our restaurant is quite popular with the local residents and even return visitors and yes sometimes there is a waiting list to be able to be seated. The trolley is definitely a convenient mode of transportation around Deadwood. We urge all of our guests to use the trolley. We love it here, the people are amazing and the place is great. It's not far from the main part of town and there is a trolley that stops right in front. The restaurant is fabulous, both the food and the service!

Came to Deadwood for 2 nights. Was not looking for fancy just clean and less expensive. This was less expensive but not the cleanest. A bit dated and could use some work. It is fairly quiet and sits just outside of the main downtown.

The room we were assigned was a minimalist study. Small room very small bathroom, only a television for amenities. There was no refrigerator or microwave. Not a big deal for a one night stay. We think we got sick from the attached restaurant.

This was our first time at this Best Western and will definitely stay there again. We enjoyed the short walk to the historic downtown area but there are regular trolley services if you need a ride. The breakfast at the restaurant was excellent!! We also enjoyed the nice roof-top patio drinking our morning coffee.

First off I have to say that the staff at the front desk were GREAT! Very friendly and accommodating. However, having stayed in many a Best Western (& other hotels) across the States, this one did not hold up to what I expected from that chain. Most noticeable was there was not refrigerator in the rooms. I haven't been in a hotel room in a few years that did not include a refrigerator. Also no microwave. Hotel did not provide a free breakfast of any sort. I was with a few other couples and all of us were disappointed with the place. That said, it was clean and not in a bad location, just not up to par with what we expected from a Best Western.

We completely enjoyed our stay in Deadwood, SD. The BW where we stayed was clean and well maintained. It got cold our first night after a rainstorm and we discovered they turn off the heat in the summer. They brought blankets and a heater if we wished, so not such a big deal. Pam, who waited on us in the restaurant for breakfast was great! She kept us entertained, provided directions, and generally offered outstanding service. Again, had a great time.

My husband and I had accidentally been booked at a different Hickok Motel we called the travel company we booked through. Explained the situation they called Hickok Hotel and Casino they were wonderful we were booked within five minutes. Went to check in at 11:00 am check in is at 3:00 pm. Debbie at the front desk said they didn't have a room available yet. No problem we can go get lunch and come back later. By the time we got back in the car and drove around the corner Debbie was waving to us that they have a room ready for us now. That's what I call great customer service. Loved the hotel, Rooms were clean, bed comfortable. Loved all the period furniture. Would definitely stay there again.

This Best Western room was very comfortable. It was fairly large for two people. Bed was firm. Staff on site was friendly and helpful. Had to buy ice for cooler as their ice machine upstairs was not working properly. Could buy breakfast at the restaurant...just okay. Patio was great to just sit and relax. Was away from downtown, but you could walk or take the trolley, $1.00 each way. Lots of bikers, but people were nice.

Our patio areas are a great place to relax and unwind after a day of touring The Hills. When it is hot and everyone fills their coolers the ice machine can over heat and stop making ice, so we do sell bagged ice for filling coolers. We do also offer free ice for small containers. We stayed for only one night. It is well equipped with micro and fridge. Hot tub was right outside of our room. Loved the comfortable beds. Bathroom fairly small but clean. Ate in the restaurant attached and food was good. Wish hotel was more close to the rustic downtown although it is in the Deadwood town. Would return.

My husband and our 12 yr old son spent two nights July 2 and July 3,2016 in this hotel. It was motel style which we did not mind at all. It was far enough away from the main street in Deadwood that it was quiet in the evenings. The only thing is that we had to pay for breakfast every morning but they do have a restaurant attached along with a casino. The staff in the restaurant is very friendly. The waitress even remembered what we had ordered for breakfast after only being there once before.Our room was clean, beds were comfy and air conditioning worked. No complaints what so ever about our short stay. We wish we would have stayed longer in Deadwood as we all fell in love with that small town and all the history. We want to go back again someday!!!!!

Went there for breakfast with my family. I ordered a breakfast burrito and the waitress suggested I get it with the chile. She didn't pressure me, she even brought me a sample. It was fantastic!! Service was great and my wife and daughter enjoyed their meals as well. We got a gigantic cinnamon roll to go that delicious!! If you go to Deadwood, stop here for breakfast.

The pictures are not accurate. This place is a dump. The only good thing I can say about this property is the restaurant food and service is great. Please stop for a bite to eat but then continue on to another hotel for your stay.

Just about every summer I and 5 of my friends from home ride our harleys to Deadwood and meet a friend from Washington there. He also brings 2 of his friends with him. We stay at your hotel and have a great time. We stay around 4 days and just love Deadwood. Good riding, good food, nice casino and very nice people. Hotel is clean and comfortable. Our family of 5 spent 1 night here in early July 2016. We requested, and received, adjoining rooms - Room 225 and Room 226. The rooms were located on the 2nd floor in the northern extents of the complex. The distance from our car to a set of stairs to the exterior accessed rooms was minimal. Over the last 4 years, we have stayed at several Best Westerns in the western US. This one, when stacked up to the others, falls a bit short. Good Points: The front desk lady, both for check - in and check - out (Stacy??) was outstanding ... polite, helpful, informative, etc. The folks I interacted with in the attached restaurant for both our evening dinner and morning breakfast were extremely helpful and accommodating. Both rooms we reserved were extremely clean. The washer and dryer located on the 2nd floor of the complex did their respective jobs admirably. Soundproofing seemed good as we never heard any outside noise or noise from adjoining rooms. AC in both rooms worked very well. Plenty of cable TV channels were available. Things to Improve On: No microwave or fridge in the room. We usually do not need these items but in this instance were counting on having them due to us bringing some leftovers from our previous stops on this trip. 2 different pop machines did not work; 1 ate my $, and the other did not give me any change. In each of our rooms, there was a table and chairs placed right in front of the connecting doors. No big deal - we moved both sets so we could access the doors, but I thought that was kind of odd. Wireless access near the washer and dryer was super fast, however in our rooms it was virtually nonexistent. No 'complementary' breakfast was included - we had to purchase it at the attached restaurant. Would we stay here again if in Deadwood? I don't know. Probably would - just when stacking it up against others we've recently stayed at in Idaho Falls, St. George, and elsewhere, this one was not up to their stature IMHO.

We were disappointed that we did not get a non-smoking room - although we requested one. We had planned to stay two nights... checked out after one due to the cigarette odor in the room. Was not greeted as a Platinum BW rewards member. When I told the clerk we were checking out early - and complained about the odor - she apologized and gave us extra BW reward points.. I would not recommend this hotel if you do not like the noise of motorcycles day and night.

"Not one of the better Best Western Motels"

Over the course of a 19 day motorcycle ride we stayed in 6 different BW's as well as other motel chains. This BW was a disappointment. Ground floor room was dark and dingy. Empty spaces where a fridge and microwave used to be, but no more. Attached restaurant but no 'included' breakfast for guests.

Staff was pleasant, room was spacious. Parking was a little tight because the hotel was filled the night we spent there. Casino is small be adequate. Although this hotel is at the end of town, it only takes about three minutes to drive into the main strip.

"Romantically Reminiscent of the Wild West!"

This was a nice retreat after a day spent touring The Badlands and Mt. Rushmore (the scenic drive up from Rushmore was spectacular!). The staff were pleasant and accommodating and informed us about the trolley car as a means to touring the downtown area. Overall, this BW was quite pleasant -the rooms were very clean and spacious; we were given a lovely room with a living area in it. The parking lot was full by 6:00 p.m. and perhaps, this was due to the onsite restaurant being popular -and for good reason; the meals were delicious! The hot tub was also a welcome feature. This place was very relaxing and a somewhat romantic -reminiscent of the Wild West; my wife and I really enjoyed the historic downtown area which strongly evoked a bygone era of claim-jumpers and gunfights (many westerns came to mind). Don't be surprised if you're witness to a shootout or run into Wild Bill at one of the local gambling halls. Great and exciting place to visit!

"Avoid This Dated, Overpriced Hotel in Deadwood"

In retrospect, in planning our vacation, I wouldn't have tried to stay in Deadwood, as all the hotels there are overpriced. But I did, and in attempt to save some money, stayed at this place, which was about a 20-minute walk from downtown. I regret it. The rooms were dated and musty. The toilet was noisy and seemed to run all night. The walls were paper thin, as we could hear every conversation the people next door were having. There was no control over the temperature in the room, as the thermostat didn't work and the fan only seemed to blow warm air. No refrigerator or microwave, and the wi-fi didn't really work either. At the end of our stay, they couldn't even print me out a receipt or tell me what my final bill was, so I wasn't able to verify that I was being charged what I was expecting to be charged. Certainly one of my worst hotel stays in a long while.

We have a maintenance person available 24 hours for any situations that could arise, such as a running toilet or heaters/AC not working. We do not have microwaves or fridges in our rooms and if these are important amenities to you I do strongly urge you to call the hotel ahead of time to make sure that they are available for you. We can not print our a receipt for rooms that are pre-paid thru a third party travel agency such as expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, Priceline and the other sites like those named. The reason is our rates reflect their commission and fees that they subtract from the amount they have charged you. You will need to request a receipt from the Travel agency you that charged you for your reservation. This is why we strongly urge the guests to book directly thru the hotel. Again we are so sorry for your stay not being a positive experience.

The staff make the place,from check in,to checking out and everything in between.We loved the food,and the Maintenance Man was Jay and he had a Dog named hank,and I would have a pipe on the patio every night,and hank would come running around the corner to see me,with jay hot on his tail.The rest of the staff left nice little notes in our room every night,We felt like we were home and not on the road.We stayed 3 nights and didn't want to leave.

Location is not too far from downtown. Disappointed that this Best Western didn't include refrigerator with room. Had to buy ice for our cooler. Bed and pillows were comfortable, room clean and quiet. Also disappointed that no breakfast was included with the room. Owner has a restaurant attached that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner but at an extra cost. Plenty of hot water though.

Hotel is older style, located conveniently in Deadwood, SD. Room was very large, comfortable , slightly dated. No refrigerator was a problem for us with needs for food storage due to medical problems. Beds comfortable, staff very friendly and helpful. Internet does not work well, and cell phone not at all. Restrurant next door is fine, clean and home style food. No breakfast at the hotel.

We stopped here when passing through Deadwood. Room was clean and in good shape. It was fairly cold in the room, but we it didn't bother us once we tried to go to sleep. I would say it's within walking distance of downtown, however we did not walk downtown since it was snowing during our visit. I would stay here again if I came back to Deadwood.

The room was spotless, the staff was wonderful, and it was quiet in the room. The only problem we encountered was the heating system. The staf told us that the heating system relied on the outside temperature to deliver heat to the room. It did get a bit chilly in the room and the staff provided us with a electric heater, than it was much better. The staff was all wonderful.

Hotel was excellent. Clean. Wonderful customer service during our entire stay. The restaurant attached has great food along with a real hometown feel. Very friendly staff with excellent customer service. We would stay here again when in Deadwood. Within walking distance of town.

Wonderful, quiet motel 6 blocks from town. Great night's sleep and walking distance of restaurants and casinos but real Deadwood. I would prefer to stay here and not be bothered by the gambling and bars.

If coming to the Blackhills of South Dakota and planning on staying in northern part, highly recommend this location, easy to get where your going, great staff, and great service. I highly recommend eating at their restuarant and having their green chile with your breakfast! I know I'll stay there again soon.

The room was clean and warm the bed was comfortable. A little dated but that is made up for by customer service. Great customer service. Hot tub and restaurant on property. Also a small gaming area. Heat lamp in bathroom. Prices were good. Thanks to all the staff for working hard to keep the little spot friendly and clean.

The owners and staff treated us like family! The view is beautiful! The facilities are great, and the Jacuzzi was clean and well maintained. The restaurant is something special! The food was amazing and the staff was You will enjoy your stay with the Hickok House!

2nd time staying at this hotel and just like the 1st time outstanding. Rooms were clean and very warming. Staff was always there to help out with anything from asking for extra glasses to directions. The waitress they have serving brea ckfast in the morning was just awsome from her memory to the fun loving personality was reason enough for me to return alone. all in all 5 stars in my book.

"Another Average Hotel..."

Although this hotel offers competitive rates, my family and I will opt for paying a higher rate to stay somewhere else in Deadwood next time. The sleep quality was borderline terrible. When we finally did fall asleep after a drunken brawl nearly spilled through the window of our guest room at 0230, an obnoxious noise from a nearby utility closet continued to run throughout the night. The linens were also scratchy. Many of this property's amenities appeared to be broken down too. The good: a hot shower with a heat lamp and in-room internet. We'll consider visiting the onsite casino and restaurant again, but probably not as hotel guests.

We would like to apologize for not meeting your expectations. Our staff is available 24 hours to help with any needs you may have. Our night staff did tend to the noise from the disturbance. It is very unfortunate that this happened to you and the other guests. We wish you would have notified us as soon as this disturbance happened so we could have addressed it much faster. We try to make sure we are aware of all things happening on the property, however sometimes it is not possible to hear and see everything when we are in the office. Our amenities (hot tub) was open and operating while you were here. We do have a cover that stays on the hot tub when not in use to help maintain the temperature of the water. It does close at 10:00 p.m. to help keep the resting hours peaceful. We hope you will consider staying with us again so we can assure you that the issues you encountered are truly unusual for our guests to experience.

The food was amazing! The service was even better! Pam was the best server I have ever had! She had all of the restaurant laughing and enjoying breakfast together not as strangers but like one big family! Never have has suck a great experience in a restaurant! !!

Nice people up front. Room was nice and warm with lots of pillows. Tub is small but clean. Slept well until snow removal equipment woke me up at 5:30 AM. Café next door had a good breakfast. Went over for dinner the night before and that was awful.

The room was very spacious and staff accommodating and friendly. The trolly service downtown was great, for just $1 it would take you downtown and it runs late on weekends. Check in and check out was quick and easy. My one complaint was that the hot tub was "out of service" the first night but it was back in order the second night.

We had to close it due to the floors being slippery with ice due to some excessive splashing. When the temperatures get into the single digits any water splashed will freeze on the floor because the hot tub area is not heated. We were not real impressed with Deadwood, however the Best Western was great with great customer service. We most likely will not go back to Deadwood - saw most everything we wanted to - but the Best Western was very nice.

I stayed here in June of 2015. My credit card was over charged. I have been trying for 5 month to have this over charged resolved. With the manager and Best Western international. I have been told different storys from the charge was void,to it the banks fault. My bank has also been trying to resolve this with Best Western and they keep getting different story also. I just want everyone to know that Best Western really doesn't care about customer service. I have always stay at Best Western with the Harley Reward program, butI will never stay at any Best Western ever again because of this experince.

Hello Gerry, I am very sorry your bank is not acknowledging the void that we processed for your credit card charge. I have asked you multiple time to please have them call me as I can not do anything further from this end without talking to them. For privacy isssues I can not contact your financial institution and ask for information on your account. I need you to call them and initiate a conference call with all three of us. I have sent you a copy of the credit card void receipt multiple times to show you that it has been removed at this end. It is very unfortunate that you refuse to contact your bank one more time and ask them to do a conference call between the three of us. I have done my best to work with you on this and so has Best Western Int. Customer Care. We are very sorry that we can not do anything further until you bank contacts us.

Got this motel at the last minute on our travels and it was the last 3 rooms. Hotel was clean and quiet. The best part was the $1 shuttle that Deadwood offers to the downtown area. They run every half hour. The staff was very friendly.

Christine went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and happy with our room. All the staff at the Hickok House went above and beyond the call of duty for us the entire stay. I would put the service and friendliness of the staff here up against even the best of Hotels I have stayed at. Drop in on them here I assure you it wont be disappointing.

"Dated not traveler friendly"

First of all, no refrig or microwave which is a downer when on a trip! Reason being because there is an adjacent restaurant? Older, dated units.A/C, heater difficult to control. Laundry and ice upstairs, no elevator, not handicapped friendly. The check-in clerk very friendly and helpful. The check-out clerk had difficulty w/ process.

If that is an important amenity to you I would call ahead and make sure the room you will be staying with will have one for you. We do have an ice machine on the ground floor as well as the second floor. It is located in the office. Being an outdoor property is difficult to have an elevator but we do have accessible rooms on the ground floor. We do our best to accommodate our guests with the rooms types and locations they would like. Very nice stay, everyone was very accommodating. Would recommend to others and would stay again. Restaurant was good, plenty of food for the price. Pam in the restaurant was very nice, fun, joyful. Checkin/out was easy. Only drawback was construction in front, not the fault of the hotel.

Always a good place to stay. The staff are great. The restaurant is wonderful Esp our waitress. We see her every year and she always remembers you. The only complaint I have is the sink area of the bathroom is way too small.

Everything was OK and working in the room . Reception staff was helpful with a fast check in and check out. Breakfast is not included in the rate as the majority of BW. You must go to the restaurant in the same building and pay for it. Parking OK. Road in construction but withiut problems. Not far from city center. Booked a low level room but was not available when arrived.

When we received your reservation from booking.com there was not notes letting us know that you had a preference. We do our best to accommodate and special requests. When using a third party reservation site your needs may not be conveyed. When there are specific needs that you have I always advise the guest to call the hotel after they have made the reservation to make sure their requests have been relayed to the hotel. I enjoyed my stay very much. The Staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were nice, and the restaurant was excellent. The location is off the main drag, so if you are looking for a quieter place, but with within easy reach of the casinos, then I recommend the Hickok House.

Do not stay here.save your money and upgrade, got sick from the food,the bed was like sleeping on cement, dust from road construction.Noisy and overpriced,drive or find a different place to stay pay the extra bucks to get a better hotel,We had to take our car the next day and have it cleaned inside and out from the road construction, the dirt followed you from the parking lot,the owner really didn't care,

I am very sorry you were not happy with your stay. When you arrived and said you did not want to be here because of the construction we did agree to cancel your reservation. I cancelled it and you told me not to. You called another hotel and talked to your husband. When you came back in you told me not to cancel it because you decided to stay here. We have been very flexible with our guest who are upset about the construction and try to do what we can to accommodate them. You did visit with the owners several times and left the impression you were happy with your stay. I wish you would have let us know how you felt before you left here that morning. We had stayed here before,about 4 years ago,we liked it then and we liked it this time. The road is under construction and was a real mess, but that was not there fault and I was amased at how well they were able to keep everything so clean.
