The accommodations were quite pleasant and the price reasonable. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The complimentary hot breakfast was a definite plus. The location is convenient to downtown. We will definitely plan on staying there again.

Great location near the UC Davis campus. Easy walking distance around town with access to many shops and restaurants. It's a quick trip to San Francisco and less two hours to Lake Tahoe. I would highly recommend this hotel if you're traveling to UC Davis for a visit.

We enjoyed our stay at he Best Western University Lodge. It was in a very convenient location downtown with easy walking distance to restaurants and shops. The staff was friendly. It was a bit noisy with the train sounds and the air conditioner was loud, but otherwise the lodge provided everything we needed. We really appreciated the hot breakfast, which included other good stuff like nice muffins, yogurt, bagels and english muffins.

Best place in Davis for the price. Walk anywhere downtown safely and all lighted up. Born & raised in Davis. See Oliver at the desk & you'll be set on where to go. Many places to eat and drink and with a college town all are kid friendly. Night life bar hopping is great.

We had a double on the second floor. Small room, but nice. Not totally clean. Found someone elses hair bands on the floor. The parking is a bit tight for trucks. Parking not great for trucks. They had two coned off spaces and couldn't tell us why. The next day cones still there and due to low clearance trucks can only park on the side. The hotel is a U shape with the main parking in the middle with all the rooms facing the middle parking area. We had a long day of travel and moving. Went to bed early and woke to a loud party taking place just across from our room on the second level at the ouside patio table area. About 10-15 people drinking and yelling and acting as if they were at their own house. I finally called the front desk at 11:40 PM and was told their was nothing the hotel can do about it other than warn them to be quieter. I just about lost it. I told the girl either she shuts it down or I call the police. We were paying 248 dollars for the night and we expect a decent nights sleep. I was okay with giving this party some time, but as the hour went on so did the drinking and screaming. Even when they were disbursed they made a ton of noise walking past our room to get back to theirs. The next day I asked if the hotel had a policy on noise and the front desk person said NO. She said there isn't much they can do about that. I find that remarkable. So, I guess the word is if you want to have a rager just book the Best Wester University Lodge and hand out on the second level patio and party it up.

absolutely TERRIBLE. the walls seemed dirty, there was a tear in the room i was booked in, HARD beds, barely could sleep. sure, lots of places that's of walking distance but HORRIBLE HOTEL. do not recommend and waste of my money.

Great breakfast, with lots of choices for everyone! Walking distance to much of Davis, including restaurants. Clean rooms upon arrival. Limmited maid service during stay, but staff met any requests. Nice staff. Don't stay in a room near the gym. Too noisy!

Great location. Front desk closes for dinner so that can be an issue. Also we had torn sheets and some other issues. Not the worst, but I think we will try elsewhere. We really enjoy Davis and the farmers market was fun.

I made a booking on 10/10 and requested room 131 since I was travelling with my dog and that room is on the corner which is great when you have to take your dog several times a night. When I checked in I was given room 130 which I didn't have an issue with. I opened up the fridge to store my dog's medication and the freezer looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. In the bathroom there were cockroaches on the ceiling that didn't scurry even though I turned the light on. I went to the front desk and I was changed to a different room but needless to say that made me incredibly unsettled. I shortened my stay and checked out the next day. I would've thought they would have comped me the first night but I was charged a portion of the full charge because according to the front desk i was moved into a different room. Not a good experience at all which is a bummer because we had stayed there the previous month and it was such a good experience.

Hotel is extremely well located between the city centre and UC Davis campus. My room was clean. The breakfast was not very good. The biggest advantage of this hotel is close location to UC Davis which makes it a convenient choice for business trip.

I love the location and the room was really well appointed. They are renovating, and I like what they are doing. Nice decor inside and out. However, it was one of the dirtiest rooms we have stayed in since our lat trip to NOLA. Trash on patio, detritus behind the door, etc. I wanted to give a fully positive review because I liked the room so much but when I spoke to a manager, or so she said, she didn't seem to care and made a bunch of excuses. Front desk people were super helpful and nice.

The hotel is in a great location at walking distance from local eateries. The rooms are small but if have everything you can need in them. Very clean and comfortable beds. The UC davis campus is located nearby. Overall, it is a good hotel at a good price.

This Best Western is close to UC Davis and downtown. It is an older property, and the rooms are small (queen bed) with no bathroom vanity to speak of. The staff were friendly, the room was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the shower worked well. The breakfast included heat-and-eat Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, waffles, and pastries. There are several restaurants within easy walking distance. Our pet friendly room did not have any bad odors. It was a very nice overnight stay.

My family stayed here for one night while traveling to Phoenix on 12/18. When we arrived at 7 pm there was only 2 other cars in the parking lot so I don't think the hotel was very full. Since we had a dog, the friendly and helpful desk clerk put is in a pet room which I was worried would have a bad smell. It turned out that was not the case. Our double bed room was very clean but a bit small (but, ok for our one night stay). It had everything we needed, medium size fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, nice shower with really hot instant water. The doors to the rooms open to the outside parking lot which was fine for us since it made it easier for us to unload all our luggage into our 1st floor room. We didn't have anyone staying in either room adjacent to ours so it was a very quiet peaceful night. The wall heater/air conditioner was super noisy, so we turned it off at night (the room did get chilly but not too bad). The bed was firm and comfortable, but the sheets were a bit rough. The free WiFi was fairly slow and intermittent, so I couldn't stream videos from Hulu. At 4 and 5 am I did hear a train whistle, but it wasn't too loud. Having the Black Bear Diner restaurant right across the street was super convenient. They serve great dinners but are only open until 8 pm. There are other restaurants within walking distance. The hotel parking lot and surrounding streets seemed safe. So in summary I found this hotel very clean and affordable. I'll definitely stay here again on our trip back home in 2 weeks.

This is my go-to location for family visits in Davis. Low-key, good breakfast, a decent fitness room, good fridges with a small freezer big enough for a small pint of ice cream, and comfortable rooms. On my last stay I mistakenly left a small gadget in my room. I called Tracey to tell her and she & housekeeping found the gadget and Tracey had it over-nighted to my house! Great service, thank you so much!

This property is centrally located on the edge of downtown and edge of UC Davis campus. Right across the street is the Black Bear Diner - convenient and really good. Room was clean, service was excellent. This is our go to location when visiting our daughter at UC Davis.

My husband and wanted to visit our college son in Davis and this was the perfect hotel. It's right in the center of town with lots of places to eat in walking distance. Best of all, they have the friendliest staff!

When Covid first ruined traveling for us we expected the worst. It was a mistake. The University Lodge has adjusted beautifully to the situation. High points for me has always been the breakfast and coffee. They installed Keurig machines in the rooms and the hosted 'grab and go' breakfast gives the opportunity to make selection of what items go into the bag, including a heated Jimmy Dean muffin sandwich. As close to their original breakfast room experience as one can now get.

The room smelled fresh, the sheets were crisp and freshly made. The room was spotless. We felt safe , and the front desk made us feel very welcome. It is located on a quiet street. I actually woke up in the middle of the night and there was silence--no traffic, no voices. We had a very nice stay.

The location is right in downtown & very close to UCD. Friendly staff. Decent to-go breakfast. Keurig in room. Hot tub is nice. Rooms are very small. Pillows are good. Pretty quiet. Everything was clean and worked.

The second star was strictly for location; otherwise, a definite 1 star. A journey back in time, to the days of teensy-tiny rooms and air conditioning that sounded like a fright train. Room was maybe 144 sq ft, possibly less. The front part of the motel looked good, with private balconies, but we were relegated to a room in the back, right out of 1968. Perhaps this was because we had dogs, but still, the room was a joke. Positives included great water pressure in shower, but the shower took twenty minutes to drain.. ick. Location was outstanding, close to many restaurants in downtown Davis and a dog park where we took our critters, However, the room was not only small, but dilapidated, with worn furniture and carpet stains. Small TV. Nice-sized fridge. Keurig ok, but coffee provided was tasteless except for the cardboard taste of the cups. Didn't use microwave. Theft-proof hangers — seriously, who is going to steal hangers? I found this demeaning. A/c is an absolute necessity in Davis in the summer, and ours was basically unusable. With it on, we had to shout to hear each other speak, and forget watchingTV or making phone calls. After five hours of driving, peace and quiet would have been nice. Instead we were beamed into a fairly ratty past.

I have frequented the hotel several times for work conferences in Davis. The rooms are always clean and well stocked. Staff is always helpful, friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is hot with a variety of food from scrambled eggs and bacon to cold cereal. This particular stay, my colleagues and I were returning the next week and my boss did not book 2 rooms as we needed 5 in all. When my boss called to get additional rooms she was told there were none available, since I was staying this week I asked and the desk clerk was able to find us 2 more rooms. Lovely!!!!! Thank you so much, you are so appreciated.

Stayed here while visiting UCD for work. Great location wrt campus and the downtown area. Downtown is great with a huge selection of restaurants, a few bars too. Hotel was quaint, clean, good continental breakfast in the AM. Staff was good too. Returning for a trip in March, will be staying there again.

I stay at this Best Western every time I visit Davis. I know it will be clean, I'm well positioned to get to downtown walking or biking, and the rooms are comfy. It has easy access to the university as well. I always enjoy my stay. The front desk staff are very kind and helpful, staying up late for my late check ins, holding my luggage, and helping me find things around town I need.

We stayed her 3 days in Nov. 2019. We stay in Davis a lot and occasionally Dixon when Davis is booked. This was our first time at the BW University Lodge. I will start with location. This motel is very close to campus, the park, and located right downtown. It is a block off of the train tracks so it's not as noisy as some other hotels. Parking and Breakfast are Free! Another perk. But, 80% of the parking has a low clearance of 6'7 for entry. Most SUV's go through but a high truck would not. There is some additional side parking. The breakfast was better than most other hotels we have tried. Good selection and fresh. We experienced a pretty significant issue with our room. The hotel staff was attentive and transferred our room. Our second room was a King with a balcony and it was worlds better than the first room. It was spacious, clean, in good condition, a bigger bathroom with vanity, a balcony, front patio area and in front of the hotel. I would recommend staying in the front of the hotel and not the back and I felt their double rooms were really really tight and small. This is an older hotel and it shows some wear and tear. But, it was affordable and the location was great for us. They also have a nice little hot tub that is private and no one else was using it. It was also clean.

Great location, very friendly staff, comfortable, quiet. Good choices for free breakfast. Or restaurant across the street. Also walking distance to Amtrak but not so close to be to loud. Close to the downtown area with shops and other restaurants

This modest hotel was worth the money due to its prime location in Davis. Although the a/c was a bit noisy, and the tv was low def, the bed was comfy, the staff was very helpful, and the breakfast buffet was very good. It was also nice having a small refrigerator and microwave in the room. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Breakfast is awesome, staff treats you like friends/ family, only decent coffee I ever had in a motel. Location is in perfect proximity to the university. Makes it difficult when they are full and we have to stay somewhere else.

We found the bed to be extra firm and woke up every morning with a sore back. The breakfast was good and it was close to a lot of activities. It was nice to have a microwave and refrigerator in the room. The bathroom was not very clean there were cobwebs on the ceiling.

I've stayed in this Best Western several times during the last 4 years. Rooms are small but not crowded. They are clean, and the beds are reasonably comfortable. Rooms facing B street can be a bit noisy in the evenings. Complimentary breakfast was basic but okay. Room rates were competitive.

it was an enjoyable experience, as usual at this particular hotel.It is close enough to the UC Davis for the working hours and it has peacefull places around for relaxing and to recharge. The difficulty is regarding laundry.

We attended an event in Davis, CA and were recommended the BW Univrersity Lodge. Though a little bit dated from other newer BW properties - this is an older motel-style layout - it was the perfect place to say for the 4 days we were attending a conference. Easy to get to, close to the many downtown restaurants and close to the campus. Amenities were great, food in the included breakfast was great. If coming to UC Davis for campus-sponsored courses or events check to see if there is a course discount offered.

Great location but the room we stayed in was in need of repair. Definitely had a "one star" feel to it. It felt like a room that visiting college stayed in and partied in while visiting UCD students. The service was good and the breakfast in the morning was better than I expected it to be.

Best Western has a great breakfast, it is located very conveniently close to UC Davis, has great staff, and is super affordable. I highly recommend it. It is also close to downtown, and close to a lot of restaurants and shops.

I love this hotel and stay at it often. It's location and proximity to downtown Davis is great. Unfortunately wifi was down for the entire hotel for my last visit and for someone who needs to wifi to work while on a leisure trip, this was a huge inconvenience.

I stayed here, and the bathroom was absolutely HORRENDOUS. There was other people's hair left all over and someone's FECES on the toliet handle. I went down to complain and they offered me a cheaper rate and told me someone would come and clean it. I said that was fine. They offered to switch rooms but I didn't have the time before leaving for my conference. I said, I don't really care as long as it's clean. They said they would make certain someone attends to it. I left a note by the toliet so the housekeeper didn't miss it. I come back from my conference at 4pm and the poop is STILL ON THE TOLIET HANDLE. I went down and complained. The lady at the front desk said “I'm sorry we adjusted your rate. Housekeeping has left for the day.” I said “but there is still someone else's human feces on my toliet handle.” She replied with “there's nothing I can do, we already adjusted your rate for the inconvenience” I'm sorry, but someone else poop on the toliet handle is both unsightly and a health hazard. I feel wholey uncomfortable sleeping here.

This property is very close to the University campus and tucked away from the main road. It was very clean and the staff have been great. One helped me open my shipping materials when I couldn't find an opener. Just keep in mind no elevators but otherwise a good value.

We booked into this hotel for 2 nights to attend a reunion. I requested a quiet room and definitely got a nice, quiet room. It was pretty small and bit crowded with 2 beds and the other furniture, but mostly very clean. I am germ-phobic and usually go over any hotel room I stay in with disinfecting wipes. This room was very clean - the only area that came up a little less than sparkling was the kitchenette area over the mini-fridge. Also, there was a suspicious looking drip mark on the bathroom wall - thankfully, I forgot my blacklight! There was also someone else's toothpaste spatter on the bathroom wall (or maybe it was bleach spatter) - but seriously, the room was pretty clean. Beds were comfortable and had plenty of pillows of different lofts to choose from. The continental breakfast offered was pretty nice - eggs, bacon, cereal, yogurt, fruit, danishes, bagels and bread/toast. Plenty of choices. The location was great - right there in Downtown Davis. Although I wish I had booked a nicer hotel (for a lot more money..) to have more room to move around, this one was fine - and more affordable.

Budget friendly hotel for a clean, comfortable, easy stay over. The beds and showers are comfortable. Hotel is in close proximity to downtown and lots of good restaurants and shopping. We will stay here again. They also honor military service people with a discount. Oh and they are pet friendly!! :)

This hotel is located in the heart of downtown Davis. You can walk everywhere including the college.The parking is free and decent. The rooms have refrigerators and microwaves which come in handy. They also serve a hot breakfast.

This is an old-style motor lodge with a slight coat of paint and nothing else. If you are a light sleeper, avoid at all costs. Main windows open to the walkways, so there is no privacy and safety. The AC system is as loud as it gets (because ancient) so you are at a loss. And if you are housed in the ground floor, then you get vehicle fumes, too. Room cleaning is sub standard: Move an item in the room and you will find historical trash relics never picked up or cleaned. Simply gross. I stayed here because of its convenience of being between Davis and the University. I am still regretting it. Never coming back.

You can't beat the location of this place for proximity to downtown Davis as well as the UCD campus. Our room was smallish, but had everything we needed, including two queen beds that were firm but comfy, with ample pillows. Also: a small kitchen area with good-sized fridge and microwave, iron, coffeemaker, hairdryer, tub / shower, table/desk, two chairs, alarm clock with multiple plugs including USB's for charging up to five devices at your bedside. The fridge had a very small freezer compartment. The bathroom has very little counter space, but this didn't bother us much. Outside, the balconies have beautiful flower baskets. The rooms and grounds were very clean. We enjoyed the outdoor spa for a relaxing soak, however there is no pool. The free breakfast was better than most, with hot eggs and bacon, you-bake waffles, fresh fruit including strawberries and blueberries, oatmeal, pastries, bagels, toast, a good assortment of yogurts, and OK coffee. All the staff were super helpful, cheerful and responsive. I would recommend this place highly for Davis visitors!

This hotel has most rooms in the first floor, right on the street. It is badly run with disrespectful staff. I forgot some items inside and next day they claimed the items were “not found.” I have another word for that. Of course, management did not care at all.

Great location you can easily walk around downtown Davis. This hotel is a motel and the rooms are adequate and breakfast is included. Best part about this hotel was the location. We came for a soccer tournament and parking was a little tight otherwise it's a great option.

Good location - close to campus and downtown. Average amenities. Horrid customer service (took almost 30 min to check out). God variety of breakfast items, but horrid set-up: tiny breakfast room, where people are running over each other to get stale hard-boiled eggs and second-day yogurt. Breakfast starts at 7:00 am on business days - perhaps, nobody starts working early in CA, but I did and I missed it therefore most days. In short, for $145/night I expected MUCH BETTER. Never again.

It is very convenient to the downtown and school. It is safe and very clean. No need to drive around when you stay and visit your child in the university. I recommend this place if you want convenience for the price of the stay.

You can't beat the proximity of this hotel to the UC Davis campus - this is the number one selling point. I ended up here because the Best Western Palm Court was full. The University Lodge is a few steps down from the Palm Court, although it was generally fine. The front desk staff was great, and the included breakfast was fine. Beds were a bit rough/old. My biggest issue was with the cleaning staff. There were candy wrappers on the floor (not mine) that persisted for 4 days. There was gunk (like gum) on the sheets one night, which was really gross. Towels on the floor in the bathroom were not picked up, nor were washcloths in the shower. Shampoo / lotion / etc. were not replaced. So you should set your expectations accordingly.

Location is good but room not comfortable and with bad smell. Not recommend to any of my friends. Parking space limited. Out of hotel appearance looks like motel and not Hotel. There is quite a lot need to improve.

A great choice for Davis accommodations at a smaller motel in downtown with modern rooms, quality furnishings, and a good staff. A bike and pet friendly place in the heart of Davis. Good value for money.

This hotel is quite convenient to UC Davis campus. The facilities are very basic but fine. More of a drive-in motel than a hotel (unlike the much nicer nearby BW Palm Court). Room was a bit cramped but everything functioned okay. Breakfast was free, rather basic, but decent overall. Two problems: 1) The hotel advertised a gym. Upon checking I was informed that gym was "not really" open due to construction. However, I was able to access it with my room key and no construction was evident; it's quite rudimentary but everything worked well. 2) Upon checkout I requested for my "BW Rewards" number to be put in for this stay. The desk clerk flat out refused claiming that this is not possible since the University paid for my stay. He couldn't (or wouldn't) budge or give any reason for this weirdness. I've stayed at numerous BW locations worldwide, most often not paying out of my own pocket. It was always possible to get credit for the stay. I have never encountered such unfounded, puzzling and pig-headed attitude.

I stayed here in conjunction with business on the UC Davis campus. The hotel was in a great location because I could walk everywhere I needed to go - my rental car never left the parking lot. Easy walking distance to campus, restaurants, shops, etc. The hotel is well decorated and quiet. The staff is very friendly. Though the hotel doesn't have a pool, they do have an outdoor hot tub and it's a nice addition to the property. There is a great breakfast available each day - lots of hot food and a good variety of items. I would definitely stay here again!

The carpets are older because if the hotel's accommodation if dogs. Staff is terrific. There is a park nearby for the dog. Breakfast us surprisingly good. Parking is convenient and downtown and the farmer's market is at your doorstep. There us a large frig and we needed an accessible bathroom. You do have to step over a higher tub wall but staff had a shower seat and we were able to transfer with that. Excellent experience for a short stay.

We stayed here in conjunction with a visit to the U.C. Davis Veterinary Training Hospital. It was the perfect place to stay -- easy to get to, clean, comfortable, and very close to the veterinary hospital. We were able to pay a fee to have our dog with us. Overall, an excellent stay. I'll add that everything was clean and quiet! Very nice.

The heating system was old and funky. It woke us every time it came on during the night. It was either very strong or nonexistent. The location was great. The breakfast was standard, but it did knothole any black tea available.

This hotel is a good hotel which is very clean. It is right in Davis so we could walk to restaurants and shops. It is very close to the Arboretum which we enjoyed walking through. It is also very close to the Amtrak station. The breakfast was very good and so convenient being right on the hotel grounds. The next time we visit Davis we will definitely stay at the Best Western University Lodge.

We are snowbirds headed to Desert Hot Springs California from Vancouver.We we're rerouted due to major Hwy being closed for an accident.It was getting late and we had to find a hotel. Plugged in the GPS as we are Diamond members with Best Western we were happy to see this hotel. It was so clean and quiet and great location. Very close to the highway, Sacramento .Many restaurants in the vicinity.The free breakfast had so many choices and very friendly staff membranes.We were able to make it to our destination by late afternoon the next day.

The hotel is located near the UC Davis Campus. I stayed on a Sunday and Monday. I picked this place because of the reviews. It is a little dated, but was very comfortable and quiet. Plus it was right next door. Also the pet fee was reasonable. A lot of places charge you to much for pets. Their lost...I would stay here again and do recommend it.

We needed a room for the night that will accept pets, as our dogs were going the UCD Vet Hospital. We had a nice room with a comfy bed, good internet and fairly quiet. We found it here, and will use them again if we need to make a return to Davis.

It had been a year since I stayed here and it looks like they have made some changes for the better. The biggest change was the expansion of the breakfast room. Bigger and a better selection of items. The rooms have what look like photos from the local area and were nice. A couple of little issues upset a perfect stay. The floor above our room had a loud creaking sound and made sleeping difficult at times. The spa area could have used some cleaning as guests had left cigarette butts on the ground. The spa jets were kind of weak also.

We evacuated during the Napa fire. This staff was caring and supportive and did what they could to help, beyond what was expected. This place was cute and a great location to walk just about anywhere and anything you could want

The University Lodge is a great value and conveniently located within walking distance to downtown and university buildings. We have missed the once useful workout room however, as it is being refurbished, and hope it is completed soon.

Simple and charming rooms decorated with local historical photos of the area (a nice change from generic hotel "art"). Coffee and tea service, ample parking and walkable to EVERYTHING the City of Davis has to offer– cinema, plenty of restaurants and even one-of-a-kind shops and galleries.

Lights didn't properly work. Little control over the air conditioning. Room was not clean! The front door did not close. Noisy cleaning staff very early in the morning. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. The proximity to UC Davis and the downtown are great. The room was clean, staff friendly and the breakfast was pretty ok but The gym is under renovation. All in all, good experience

Best Western University Lodge has wonderful staff and very clean rooms We work on a nearby apartment building nearby every August and the convenient location makes our work way more efficient especially with the included full breakfast.

The room was too small - all first floor rooms according to staff were the same. Second floor had large rooms. I had bad leg. - needed first floor. Bathroom was also small. Stand alone sink had been pulled from wall, caulked and broke away again. Staff advised but motel full. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable.

Rooms are clean. The beds and pillows are comfortable. The fact that they are pet friendly is a huge help when we bring our dog. Breakfast items are okay and inline with cost of room stay. Great service staff! We stay here frequently to visit my parents at the Carlton Senior Living facility down the street so the location is great. Price is great!

The Best Western University Lodge was very nice. We stayed overnight only. We had an early morning tour of UC Davis and needed a place to stay the evening prior. It met our needs and we would come back if we needed to again.

When we checked in it was later than we expected but the person checking us in was friendly and polite. The room was very dirty overall and the kitchenette was awkward due to the size of the refrigerator, the kitchenette was dirty and the equipment was broken and dirty. The staff overall was friendly.

The Best Western University Lodge is a great place to stay for a visit to the university, or for a night while traveling. It's located right in the village of Davis, with shops and restaurants all within walking distance. I like to stay there while traveling to and from Seattle - Los Angeles along I-5, it's close to the route, but off the freeways. Shady and charming, Davis is one of my favorite small towns in central valley.

Pros: Price, location, value. This is a low cost option that is a great value. The location is the best part in my opinion as you can walk out of your door and literally right in downtown Davis. We walked maybe 10 blocks through the entire downtown and it was great. Another bonus is the fact it's not right next to the train tracks and a block removed from the louder crowds. Cons: It's what it is. No frill amenities and dated interiors. Hot tub is in the parking lot. No real negative here since you should know this already. All in all, a solid value and a great location but you do get what you pay for.

Great location! Within walking distance from downtown shopping and restaurants, along with UC Davis campus. The motel was quiet and the staff was very friendly and helpful when asked for recommendations or directions. We would stay here again if ever back in the area.

We've been coming to the Best Western in Davis since 2010, when our daughter started at the university. We can always count on a room that's like one at a first-class hotel. Your receptionist is always friendly and accommodating, and your cleaning staff does a fantastic job. Give them a bonus, please!

The room was kept clean and we had fresh towels, etc. We did not have to ask for anything extra. Office staff courteous. It would have been nice to communicate with staff who understood English. I would stay here again with no problem. Continental breakfast was just fine.

Just your average short term stay motel. Although it was well located in downtown Davis. Relatively clean and well kept property. Staff was nice and helpful. Very limited parking if you have an overly tall vehicle.

A lovely little hotel, perfectly placed for visiting our son at the University and walking around the town. We loved the breakfast buffet that we could take back to our room. especially the waffle machine which makes perfect waffles every time. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable with tea and coffee. We couldn't fault the hotel and we will definitely stay there next year when we visit again.

Very clean. Central location walking distance to dinner! We will book a room here again. Staff was very helpful. Continental breakfast was good, and we will stay here again! I would highly recommend to parents visiting students or business travelers.

Hotel is right in the center of Davis, a college town. Many nice restaurants within walking distance. Also nearby was the US Bicycling Hall of Fame. Hotel itself is small but very clean and service was always helpful. Rooms are smaller than normal but again very clean and comfortable with all required amenities

Clean convenient location walkable to campus and downtown Davis. Very glad to see that it was pet friendly, as I'll be back in the next few months to visit. Easy parking for college tour, I didn't need my car for 3 days!

We stayed in this hotel while visiting UC Davis and it is an experience I hope not to repeat. It felt more like a motel than a hotel and not what I was expecting. There were no elevators, so my husband had to carry all the luggage up the steps to the second floor. Rooms are open to the outside like a motel. The room itself was very small and the bed linens were stiff and uncomfortable. Fortunately we were only staying here for one night. The complementary breakfast was in a small room on the ground floor with no tables or chairs, so we had to eat standing up. I hope to be able to stay elsewhere on future visits to this area.

This is a middle of the road hotel. I was disappointed in the place the bed was uncomfortable. I do not recommend this hotel. I only booked because the hotels were full because of college graduation and this was a business trip.

I spent six nights at the BW hotel at Davis on March 2017. I felt quite disappointed for several reasons. The check inn in was made without any of the standard explanations you expect in a hotel. The attendant has this chronic terrible mood, looks really tedious and seemed to be making you a favor. Next day during breakfast I found out that you had to either eat standing or grab food to your room. This wasn't even explained during check in. Breakfast is made basically of unhealthy food. I brought food to the room and the tray with remains was left for days by the cleaning ladies that by the way speak no English at all. The room is standard and it's not bad. It has a reasonable size with good Internet, good wardrobes, places to work and nice lights. The restroom is a bit small without places to hang your toilette stuff. I wouldn't stay there again and would rather pay a little bit more and stay in a neighbor hotel as I did before.

We enjoyed our 7 day stay at this location and were even able to attend a farmer's market held Sunday morning in the park just across the street. We like this location and return to it every couple of years when we attend educational sessions at UC Davis. We like the location and proximity to amenities and to UC Davis. Although we did not have a pet, we noted that pets were allowed and this would be a plus for anyone travelling with an animal.

We stayed for one night at the Best Western University Lodge. It is a no frills motor court style motel which is ok for a short stay when you need to be in the middle of Davis or near the university. The rooms are clean and functional with a desk, large TV, refrigerator, safe and microwave. The dated bathrooms are small. One of the best features of this motel is it's downtown location just a brief walk from numerous restaurants and shops. The included breakfast consists of cereal, fruit, cold eggs, yogurt, toast/bagels and a self serve waffle maker.

Spent one night here on our way to Napa. Rooms are basic, no frills yet comfortable. Location is perfect. Walking distance to many eateries downtown so no need to worry about public parking. Breakfast was okay with yogurt, hard boiled eggs and waffles offered. Overall good value for a short trip. Don't know if I'd stay here for more than one night.

There aren't a whole lot of options for hotels in Davis but this location is pretty ideal. Just a block from campus and 4 blocks from the main bars. They were redoing the front office, so it was a bit janky. I would recommend it!

Motel was under renovation, and room was small, Major good feature was the location; good bed, and clean. Complimentary breakfast had cold cereals, pastries and other baked goods,waffle maker, toaster. Coffees was good. Fruit and hard boiled eggs. No other cooked eggs or bacon. Big Bear Restaurant is nearby

We could walk to downtown and had a great evening at the Bistro - outdoor dining and a jazz duo. The University Lodge was recommended by staff at Best Western in Ashland, OR. Great help for finding a place for overnight off I-5.

The hotel location was perfect in Downtown Davis and convenient to University of California Davis. We enjoyed the local restaurants and Farmers Market. Hotel staff was courteous and efficient. Breakfast was convenient and satisfying.

Property is older but you would not know it. The rooms are pleasant, bed comforatble, very clean, fast internet, King room has balcony and chairs. The best part about this property is the price and location. Rates are reasonable and you can walk to University, Whole Foods or the quaint Davis Downtown with shops, reastaurants, book store, coffee shops,etc. Saturday mornings the historic Davis Farmer's Market is held in Central Park a few blocks from the property. Additionally, you are in walking distance to the Davis Arboretum bike or footpath. I am usually a Hyatt person, but the Hyatt's rates in Davis are very pricey. The Hallmark Inn (a few blocks away from Best Western) has a great breakfast bar and stylish lobby, but rooms, bed and TV are in poor condition. You could stay at Best Western University Lodge and walk over to the Hallmark Inn for expresso and a more trendy atmosphere for breakfast (food good.) Unless the Hyatt rates are on sale (under $200), this is my favorite place to stay when I visit my daughter at UC Davis. Not the ritz, but clean, comfortable, quaint and very fast internet. My last nugget of feed back is that the receptionist at the front desk needs to be a little more personable. Definitely consider this property, though.

The room was small and cramped, no room for a roll-away bed, which we needed. We needed queen beds, but only the double beds were available and were too small for us. The mattresses were comfortable, though. Our son complained about the quality of the TV picture. They did have a grab-bar in the shower. The free breakfast was ample, but featured freezing cold butter and eggs, but they had an assortment of pastry and fruit. Coffee fair. A very small restaurant. Very centrally located in Davis, but if I had to reserve in Davis again I'd go to the Best Western Palm Court.

Hotel is pet friendly but a bit old. A/C very loud. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Close to UC Davis but still need a car to get around. Beware if you bring a pet. You have to plan out your day plan around the check-in and check-out time. Finding a nearby pet sitting service is difficult.

Davis, California is one of America's sweet college towns Shady streets, beautiful old houses, college environment, and an up and coming Shakespeare Festival. This location offers a place close to the Festival, you could actually walk from here to the venue. There are nearby restaurants which offer outside eating spaces under large, shade trees. The hotel is well cared for, and while the breakfast area is small, there is a patio just outside, upstairs, which can be used for a beautiful place to have breakfast. All in all, a tidy choice. Will be back next year for the Festival and this hotel.

Super location. Big, clean rooms. But if you need to get on the road early, be forewarned- breakfast doesn't start until 7. Also the walls are thin. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient. Would definitely stay here again given the chance.

Stayed here while visiting my daughter. Our room was a good size, very clean and the beds were very comfortable. The front desk staff were so friendly, and always greeted us with a smile. Enjoyed the coffee, bagels and fruit every morning before walking around town. Great magazine shop around the corner. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The Wednesday farmer's market, with fresh produce, food vendors and music, is right down the street.

Great location and very easy access to the college and downtown. Would recommend to anyone for either business or pleasure. Staff was helpful and friendly and the rooms were very clean and had everything that we needed.

This review is over due. Last summer and fall (2015), my husband and I had to spend quite a bit of time in the beautiful town of Davis because our dog had major surgery at U.C. Davis and required several follow-up physical therapy sessions. The BW University Lodge was one of our two, go-to motels. It is clean and extremely well-situated (literally in the heart of downtown, where everything is within walking distance), and the young staff provide a level of service that is hotel-worthy. I am not a motel gal, but having no choice, this lodge exceeded expectations. You won't find top-notch amenities here, and some of the rooms have a bit of a funky lay out, but if you want a clean, well-situated, well-run place to stay with your pet, you won't be disappointed.

This hotel is always clean and the staff friendly. The rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. I stay here every time I'm in Davis. The location is an easy walk to all of the dining, shopping and the Farmer's Market.

we had good experience to stay there for the college visit. it's convenience, clean, comfortable and good price. only Jacuzzi is small but its not big deal. we used small gym at night as well. Break fast was good selection to enjoy it. we will be back to stay again in the future.

From reservation/check-in to check out, all of the staff were fantastic!!! I took my dog up to have surgery at U C Davis and they made us all feel comfortable (including Mr. Darcy), they asked how he was doing, and really made us feel at home. The lodge is located right next to the Black Bear so you're not too far from yummy food. There is a little market, a spa and a UPS store right across the street as well. And you're right next to a leisurely walk by a creek--just lovely! The room had a fridge, microwave, and safe in it. The bed was super comfy. Truly a great property with wonderful staff. Can't wait to go back! Thanks for making our stay so comfortable and welcoming!

Like many hotels in this class it is more of a motel, i.e. the rooms all open onto the parking lot or balcony. However security does not appear to Does not appear to be an elevator to the 2nd floor rooms so travel light. The breakfast was lacking. The choice was reasonably poor but the room used is smaller than one of the hotel rooms. It took just 6 guests to make it feel overfull. Not helped by the situation that 1 person will take up a table for 4 and no one will ask "do you mind it I share the table with you". One reason this did not happen is that the tables are a little small. The staff are VERY helpful and friendly though. I was working just 2 blocks away (did not know that when I booked the room). I was allowed to leave my car at the hotel and walk to work. So arrived stress free. I would definitely stay here again but will skip the breakfast.

The room is fabulous, but the early morning lawn keepers was annoying and hard to catch some extra rest. Loved the continental breakfast with polite staff. Conveniently located near downtown within walking distance.

Located next to the UC Davis campus, this is an outstanding hotel. We wanted to visit the arboretum at UCD and we were within walking distance. After a day of walking all over the campus, the hot-tub felt great. There were several good restaurants nearby. It's a great place to stay for a UC Davis visit.

The pickings are slim in Davis for accommodations. This property is well situated a couple of blocks from the UC Davis campus, and a few blocks from the center of downtown Davis. The rooms are in fairly good repair and are well cleaned. I would say the mattress is ready to retire in the room we were in, but that is really the worst complaint I would make. Breakfast is adequate but not bounteous. The staff were all friendly. Quiet rooms are on the property, which is important to us. Many of the hotels in Davis are close to or front the railroad tracks, and this BW is nowhere near to any of that. When we find ourselves in Davis next, we will stay here.

This was a very good motel in a great location, a short walk from downtown Davis restaurants and shops, and a very short drive to the UC Davis campus. The property has reasonably up-to-date furnishings, carpets, and bedding. The rooms are good sized with comfortable beds, and they are clean. The front desk staff was helpful in suggesting restaurants and giving directions. Also, there was a decent continental breakfast. Furthermore, the price was reasonable for the area. I would highly recommend staying at Best Western University Lodge if you are visiting Davis.

A good downtown location is the greatest asset of this place. Is very nice to be so close to Central Park and the Farmer's Market. Since I was visiting for a three day long course, I was also close to other downtown hotels where I went to pick up my class mates. This gave me a quick look to all of them and I was able to compare. My lodge had the best friendly service by far. The only matter left to ponder was the tiny size of the breakfast room, which I skipped since it was so full, being the modified kitchen of a town house. Other than that, my stay was great and I was able to walk to my heart content in beautiful, baby-sequoias-shaded downtown Davis, CA.

For those wishing to be in Davis, close to downtown, across from the Park with their Farmers' Market, this is the place. Dedicated staff and the price is right (ask for the special rate if you stay a week or longer!)

This is a great place to stay in downtown Davis. Great location, easy to get to, and decently priced. Within walking distance to everything - restaurants, shopping, farmers market. Super friendly employees. Great breakfast included.

Most hotels in this area are higher priced then they should be because of the College(s) That said this hotel was not bad for the price, clean and comfortable. The price was cheaper on their site then on Hotels.com, so do your shopping. The breakfast was nothing much but worse was the room it was in, tiny and hard to get around just to get a bagel, never mind trying to toast it. I would rather a cheaper price then the breakfast.

I think it was over all a nice fine sweet hotel to stay atto a point that I would stay at this paticular hotel againit is all worth it to me because I get points on my rewards card for the hotel stay and the fact that there is an internet computerand thebreakfast room with the cold t hot coffee t juices and the coldt hot foods

Checking in was quite easy, we were accommodated for a larger bed when requested. Located close enough to go anywhere in central Davis. Breakfast is help-yourself style and very adequate. Rooms were made and cleaned daily and the gym was not busy at all.

This was a visit for a sick dog at UC Davis. Hotel was convenient and satisfactory for our short stay. We chose this location because it was a pet friendly location, even though we did not have to bring our dog there.

We have stayed in this hotel before when visiting our daughter. It is located close enough to walk down town,which in Davis is nice since parking is hard to find. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean. The beds are comfy. The breakfast is the usual, fruit , cereal coffee. The price is good, and it is a place we would recommend, and will stay at again.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, it is very central to downtown Davis, places to shop, and restaurants. It was my first stay in Davis and I was able to find my way around easily. Good value for the money. Davis is a big University town and downtown is really quaint. Thoroughly enjoyed it and I am sure I will be back.

We spent one night here and have no complaints. The room was standard hotel size. It is a two story motel that is clean and quiet. One thing that concerned me initially was the lack of outdoor lights when we first arrived (night). We had the bottom end unit and it was difficult seeing the door handle. We mentioned this to the lady manning the desk and the next thing we knew, the lights were on. The surrounding area appeared safe...definitely a college area. We would use this lodge again if in the area.

The motel is clean, kinda small. Decor is updated. Breakfast was strictly continental, didn't have any hot food, boiled eggs, bagels, pastries, waffles and cereal. Coffee, juice. Small area to eat, formerly a room maybe? Located near all of downtown Davis, walking distance to almost everything. Lots a food nearby. No pool. Okay deal for the money.

After reading the reviews, I figured this was a good place to stay. Not so. The parking lot was full when we got there. The room was postage stamp size small. The door almost hit the bed when it opened. It's a good thing the 3 of us staying in the room all like each other. Our room was right by the stairs. Because of this, the lights outside were brightly shining all night long. I don't recommend a room by the stairs if you're light sensitive. Even with the curtains closed, our room was light up pretty well from them. There was NO HOT WATER! We weren't told/warned on checkin. We called the front desk after the first cold shower in the evening and were told they were "working on it". Still no hot water for the morning shower. Breakfast was stale cereal or not so good tasting waffles. On the plus side, the room was clean and we felt safe sleeping there.

Room was a good value for our 2 day stay. Service was excellent and so is the location. Rooms were small for a family of 3, but we were often out of the hotel on a campus visit. We would stay there again due to the value and staff, but have also stayed at the other Best Western which had nicer rooms.

This simpler older-style motel beats all its competition, for me, partly because I find it the most conveniently located, but mainly because I find its staff most conscientious and caring. As I have mentioned before, this property isn't fancy--though its gardens and fountain helped me relax and the exercise room appears well appointed and I noticed several other guests working out admirably (which activity might have relaxed me even more, but, alas, I have yet to get myself to indulge). The continental breakfast, served from 7 to 10 am, offered more than enough for me--hard boiled eggs, yogurt ,bagels and croissants are my favorites (plus I saw orange and apple juices, coffee, tea, milk, cereal, other bakery and waffle makings every day). The WiFi worked well--easy to log in to and usually it let me stay logged in over periods of inactivity. Campus, downtown and train sounds never bother me, so I rested easy at the University Lodge while I visited Davis again on (what could have been much more) stressful business.

I grew up in Davis and now live in San Francisco where I work in the hotel industry. Was back in town for an old friend's wedding and was pleasantly surprised by the service I received and the comfort I experienced. A special thanks to Larry at the front desk who listened to the particulars of what kind of room I was looking for and assigned one that exactly fit my specifications. This is basically a perfect example of a well-run two star hotel/motel. Nothing fancy, but totally complete in making you feel at home while you're away from home.
