Nantwich Road, CW2 6DN, Crewe, Great Britain - See map

Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel in Cheshire is just the ticket for a relaxing getaway - which should come as no surprise when we tell you that it's located adjacent to Crewe Railway station (and is the world's first Railway hotel, built in 1830)! For both business and leisure guests, we go all out to make your stay as comfy-cosy as possible. Our job is made easier by the beautiful red brick building we inhabit, which stands out at the entrance to the town and is held in much affection by the many locals and visitors from further afield. Such is the character of our hotel that Queen Victoria and her family stayed here when she travelled from London to Scotland for her annual summer holidays - there's even a tunnel that she used here to avoid walking with the commoners! Hotel restaurant closed on Sunday evenings. The restaurant is also closed for lunch & dinner on bank holidays. Limited cold food is available from the bar. Enjoy your stay!

"High expectations turn to disappointment "

1
09/07/2018

Initially welcomed by friendly staff into a colourful and cosy reception area. However, when we arrived at our room it wa s below our expectation of a ‘superior' standard, only one towel available and surprisingly PLASTIC beakers of poor quality. The temperatures in the Crewe area were in upper 20's (Celsius) and yet all radiators were full on with windows open to let heat out. This was a problem which negated the train noise from a busy station. The room door was left open following a clean on the first day of our stay as I discovered the door catch wouldn't align properly to lock the door without lifting the door upwards with some force by the handle. Breakfast comprised a wide selection but cooked typical ‘English breakfast' was a little dried-out each morning. Overall brilliant location but a huge gap between friendly facing staff and hotel competence. Another instance worthy of comment: notes around hotel based on Green and environmental conscious issues but little evidence of practice.

"Expensive parking"

07/07/2018

Went to the hotel for a business meeting that took around half an hour. Paid for some drinks and noted they only had a limited selection and no ice was available. Having completed my meeting headed off to the long drive home. A few days later I received a letter advising I was to be fined £60 for using the hotel car park, despite explaining that I had visited the hotel because I didn't ask for a receipt for my drinks and can't prove I was a customer my appeal has been ignored. I will never be visiting again

Had a lovely 2 night stay 29th June to 1at July for a family visit. My Grandson spent the first night with me for a sleepover with me,which he loved. The twin room was lovely, bed really comfortable. Plenty of choice for breakfast.Excellent staff from reception, cleaners and house maids.Nothing was to much trouble for any of them. Lia on reception was exceptionally helpful. Will definatly be booking again at Crewe Best western(Crewe Arms) on my next visit to Crewe.

"Food poor"

24/06/2018

I spent one night at this hotel, didn't know what to expect by looking at the reviews the hotel reception smelt a bit fousty , we went to our room and was quite surprised it was clean newly decorated the was bathroom was also new lovely and clean the beds where really comfy Our disappointment came when we went down for evening meal it was awful mince pie had pastry over cooked the filling runny the roast pork was more like boiled pork the vegetables weren't much better, the waiter serving the food had a really dirty uniform the breakfast wasn't much better didn't even have any basically the only thing I ate was a bit of Mellon (the staff were friendly )

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review

"Very dated and not fit for business meetings"

20/06/2018

Been here today and I have to say it's a very dated hotel to use for any business event. The room that we were in had no air conditioning in it, 3 plugs in the whole room (when everyone in the room had laptops/phones that needed constant power) and no projector stand (only on a low table so the screen projected was minuscule). I personally would not use this venue again. The toilets were clean and plenty of tea/coffee but expected so much more.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your experience here at Crewe Arms Hotel. Feedback is very important to the team as it enables us to focus on areas where we need to improve the customer journey. We are sorry that on this occasion we did not get it right for your conference that you held at the hotel. We are sad to here that you personally would not choose to use us as a venue for a conference and we will be using the feedback you gave us to implement improvements to ensure we offer a better experience for guests in the future. Best wishes Crewe Arms Hotel Team.

"Very pleasantly surprised"

17/06/2018

I stayed here for one night, as a stop off on my way to North Wales. Very handy for Crewe Railway Station. I was allocated a very large well furnished room on the first floor .The room was in the centre of the hotel, with no outlook, but was very quiet with no noise heard from outside the hotel and very little from inside. The room was very clean, extremely comfortable bed, good bathroom, and fairly large screen tv. The furnishings were somewhat dated but added to the character unlike the standard rooms in the large hotel chains. Perhaps the fact that I had booked a superior room and I am also a platinum level member of the Best Western Award Scheme helped me to get one of their better rooms. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly and helpful especially the lady at reception who checked me in and out. Breakfast was also very good. One of the reasons why I stopped off here for the night, on my way to North Wales, was to check the hotel out for a possible longer stay later this year or next year! I quite like the idea of staying there for a week and doing some trips out by train from Crewe Station and generally exploring that part of Cheshire. After reading some of the recent reviews about noise levels etc I wasn't so sure whether that was such a good idea! No problems. After staying here just one night I will not now hesitate in booking again in the near future for a longer stay.

"Noisiest Hotel I've ever stayed in."

1
29/05/2018

Got to be honest here. Great staff making the most of an impossible job. If you live and die trains this is the hotel for you. Once you've enjoyed the announcements from the station next door until midnight you can then settle in and enjoy your room vibrating as the heavy good trains trundle past through the night. Chuck in a busy main road and no double glazing and you have the full experience. If on the other hand you want a good nights sleep - go to Crewe Hall up the road.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. Feedback is extremely important to all of the team here at Crewe Arms as it enables us to focus on areas where we can improve the customer journey. I am sorry, that on this occasion that we did not get it right with regards to the noise issues you experienced while staying with us. Unfortunately, we are in a no win situation with the position of the hotel, being one of the oldest railway hotels in the world, we are directly adjacent to Crewe Railway Station, some people love it, others hate it. We always do our best to accommodate guests away from the track side but this is not always possible. For those rooms track side, we do provide ear plugs and eye mask by way of recognizing the fact. We hope you will come back and stay with us again soon. Best wishes Crewe Arms Hotel Team.

Stayed here overnight with coach trip rooms very nice clean comfy bed evening meal ok but breakfast was terrible there was a room coach party had to sit to eat which we did for evening meal but breakfast by mistake went into the other dining room as we dident realise we had to sit in the same room as evening meal we found a table and started to get our breakfast which looked delicious and good choice and all hot they came to us asked our room number and they said you can't stop in here you have to go in the coach party room felt so embarest and the breakfast was disgusting all cold and nothing much left I have been to a hotel we're the breakfasts is separate best western this needs to change

The team are sorry to hear about the experience you have regarding breakfast, we try and keep all the coach party together so you have your own private dining area, and we do apologize regarding the standard of breakfast when in the coach dining area, this is not the standard or service we aim for. "Cheap stay - don't expect much"

12/05/2018

It was an ok stay, we didn't pay very much as it was part of a deal on Superbreak, none the less, I did expect a little more. The rooms were in need of an update, the beds were comfy. The reception staff were ok, not particularly welcoming though. We had to request a couple of larger towels on the first day as there were only 2 hand towels. The shower leaked - there was a lot of water on the floor, despite being careful. The toilet didn't flush well. We asked to change rooms as we were pretty much on the station platform ! We were told there were no other rooms available. The internet was shockingly bad.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review

Feedback is very important to the team as it enables us to focus on areas we need to improve the customer journey. 08/05/2018

Friendly welcome and reception better than outside impression. Clean room, but starting to look a bit tired. When went for breakfast didn't have us down for B&B basis so had to return to room to fetch booking confirmation as proof we'd paid. Buffet breakfast OK, but could do with investing in a new toaster. Despite double glazing due to proximity of railway station and main road bit noisy in room

07/05/2018

Very accomadating. Staff helpful. Rooms slightly dated but expected. Bed new and comfy, bathroom modern and all get clean. Room I was allocated was an adjoining room, asked reception to change room and this was done without any question and easy. Rooms a decent size. Some rooms next to station, obviously heard trains but you get used to that and hardly notice it even with window open. The hotel can not help the trains! Lovely bar downstairs, food good. Stayed a few times now and excellent every time. Parking free and easy. Would recommend and stay again. Even stayed an extra night and this was easily booked at reception for same rate as previous nights...bargain!

"Horrible. Avoid Avoid Avoid"

04/05/2018

This hotel is noisy, not very clean and in dire need of a room refurbishment in parts. The rooms I have seen, and I requested a room change on several occasions, were pokey. The toilet did not flush properly in one, and the night porter blamed me when I asked to move at midnight as I was worried. The room I was moved to had a hole in the bath, and the trains were going past at sped all night. No wash, no sleep and toilet issues.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
The whole of the team would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations. We are very shocked at this as these are not the usual feedback comments we get from guests regarding staff and housekeeping. With regards to the maintenance issues you have raised these have been dealt with straight away. I am sorry again for your experience not being up to standard and we will be using the feedback you have given us to make changes so we offer a better service for guests in the future. Best wishes. Lovely staff... very impressed by the food .... as some one who is perpetually disappointed in chain hotel food I have to say the evening meal here was outstanding...compliments to the chef! Nice spacious room... and very quiet even though I was overlooking the train station...great nights sleep! Would stay again!

"Fantastic home cooked food"

27/04/2018

Having visited here a few times now since the refurbishment I feel the need to write a review based on 4 different visits now to the 1650 restaurant at the Crewe arms hotel. This has to be the best restaurant in Crewe by far at the present time. I've visited for lunch with work colleagues and with my husband and baby and meeting family off the train. The staff are very friendly, attentive and helpful. The food is delicious, home cooked fresh simple food. Then set lunch menu is fantastic value think it's around £7 for 2 courses, £9 for 3. Every meal I've ever seen or tried off the menu looks and tastes fantastic. Defo worth a visit especially for the lunch time menu ????

"IDEAL LOCATION, GREAT SERVICE."

22/04/2018

Needed an overnight stay in Crewe, close to the railway station, and this hotel ticks all the boxes. Literally across the road from the station, the hotel looks grand and impressively traditional. The reception area is friendly and inviting, and the rooms are cosy and well stocked with the required amenities. There is a spacious bar and restaurant area on the ground floor, and a 24 hour reception and room service. For customers arriving by car, there is a large free car park to the rear, protected by security cameras. This was a brief but outstanding stay and I am looking forward to my return trip in July.

18/04/2018

Stayed here for two nights at this hotel with a lot of character, the room was a good size, clean and comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. One evening we had a Welsh Lamb Shank that was excellent, very well presented and cooked well. Only problem was the self service breakfast on both mornings was not very hot and cold plates did not help. (we reported this) Being by the railway station we expected to hear trains but in our room it was not loud enough to keep us awake at night despite overlooking the railway. Thank you for a good two night stay and we will return.

Just had a night away with the family at this hotel, food and staff were pleasant and the room itself was spacious wouldn't mind having a air con unit as our room was on top of the platform so was very loud at night

"Great hotel, not a bad place....."

4
12/04/2018

Stayed here on 10/04 for 1 night while travelling down and after reading some of the reviews was expecting to be disappointed but not so..... Yes there are some very noisy floorboards but I've stayed in other "refurbished" hotels with just as noisy boards. unfortunately there was one broken floorboard in my romm which I reported on departure so hopefully they wil get it fixed, problem is if people don't report issues and just write a bad review then the hotel has no knowledge of he exact issue that caused the harm. I found there was a bit of road noise at certain times but didn't hear any trains as others have commented on, suppose it depends which room you get. Parking was easy on the premises and the staff were all very pleasant, can't fault them there. The room was clean and the bed was very comfy. Unfortunatley ther was only 1 slice of bacon left when I went for breakfast, bad timing I suppose, but the breakfast was nice and self service buffet made it a pleasant experience too. For the price I paid this place was a bargain. Would I go back?.... I certainly would, without hesitation. Would i recommend it?.... Well yes again, but don't be too critical of a few squeeky floorboards , just relax, enjoy the sleep and look forward to a nice breakfast.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your stay. Feedback is very important to the team as it enables us to focus on areas where we need to improve the customer journey. The broken floorboard has been reported to maintenance and is being seen to, thank you inform reception of this so we can get this sported. I am sorry to hear that there was only one slice of bacon left at breakfast, we do try and keep this topped up, but if you are ever wanting anything that isn't out on the breakfast buffet we will gladly check with the chef. All the team thank you for your kind comments and look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel on your next visit. Best wishes Crewe Arms Hotel Team

"Fabulous Hotel"

11/04/2018

Hotel is lovely, lots of character. Rooms very clean and comfy. We were on a package weekend trip which included both dinner and breakfast. The evening meal was exceptional, lots of choice on the menu. The breakfast was of the same standard. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times during our stay, excellent customer service. Guests were able to sit and relax in the comfortable seating area near the Reception or have a drink in the bar. I would certainly recommend this hotel. Just across the road is the railway station to enable you to visit attractions within the area. Hotel is suitable for wheelchair users.

08/04/2018

Stayed hwere as part of a National holiday coach trip to Chester and Cheshire Oaks. Received a warm welcome from staff and were quickly booked in and directed to our rooms. The room was clean and warm, the only downside was that it was right next to Crewe railway station, but as a Saturday evening trains stopped around midnight. Hairdryer, tea, coffee and TV available Dove liquid soap for hand and shower, shower not very hot and struggles to get enough hot water for a bath. Three course meal included in the price and a choice of three starters, main and desserts which were all freshly made. Decent bar area serving a choice of drinks. Breakfast the following morning consisted of choice of cereal, toast and cooked breakfast all served by polite staff. For the price we payed it was excellent and a credit to the hotel are all the staff who were extremely polite, attentive and helpful

"dissapointed"

3
04/04/2018

having visited this hotel a few years ago we were looking forward to returning. only to find it had had the character ripped out of it and made all modern. We only had a meal there which was not up to what we would expect from Great Western either. A steak pie which was over cooked to the point of the meat being burnt and the potatoes being inedible. We did not complain as we were in a party at a special occasion and did not want to make a scene. Would not return.

"One night stay.... Easter Sunday"

03/04/2018

We have stayed in this hotel before, it is next to the station, and 5 minutes from main town centre in a car. The room was very spacious and very clean as was the bathroom. There was an iron and ironing board in room and plenty of coat hangers. The beds have to be the most comfortable we have slept in, and we have stayed in a lot of hotels. When we arrived home, unfortunately my husband realised he had left his shirt in the room. Rang the hotel, and member of staff went to find it, and said they would post it out to us. All staff very pleasant and helpful, will stay there again.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review

02/04/2018

Our room overlooked Crewe railway station and the window didn't close properly. Trains ran all night so we hardly slept a wink. (Sophisticated form of torture - just getting to sleep, then being woken up again.) We genuinely considered leaving at 4.00am and driving 200 miles home.

"Vegan friendly"

01/04/2018

My daughter and I stayed here with National Holidays on a theatre coach trip to Liverpool. We were welcomed by friendly, helpful staff. Our twin room was huge, lovely and clean with a smart bathroom and equipped with an iron hairdryer, kettle and radio alarm. We were horrified when we looked out of the window, we were right next to the railway station and were extremely concerned that we were not going to get any sleep, I am a very light sleeper, however we slept very well in our extremely comfortable beds, never heard a thing! My daughter is vegan which is always a major problem when we go anywhere, it was so nice to find vegan dishes on the menu - two choices of vegan dessert! Stephen and Adam went above and beyond to accommodate her diet, very helpful indeed. She said that the chocolate and orange tart was ‘the best thing she has ever eaten'. Vegan sausages were provided for breakfast and soya milk for her tea, we travel quite a lot, never before have we stayed in an hotel that has been so vegan friendly. The non vegan food was good too, we loved the fresh fruit at breakfast, all the hot food was piping hot and fresh. Stephen and Adam in particular - thank you so much, you were both so kind and helpful.

My daughter and I stayed here as part of a National Holidays trip to Chester and Cheshire Oaks shopping outlet. The room was very clean and tidy and the food lovely. "Traditional"

4

Very much in the style of old traditional hotels, where there is still some character to it. Old and maybe a little dated but the rooms are more than adequately furnished. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Breakfast, although of a buffet style, is very good. Close to the railway station, but this does mean it is adjacent to a busy road and railway line.

I have called in here twice now, waiting for connections from Crewe, and have received a lovely reception from the staff. They really make you feel welcome and the hotel has a relaxed, warm and friendly feel. I will definitely call again and would stay with them if I needed an overnight.

Stayed for a few nights with work, and didn't have a decent nights sleep as didn't my colleagues unfortunately . The hotel is old, and creaky - you can hear every person walking around. You can hear the trains from the station across the road, the traffic on the road. So whilst the food was lovely, the beds super cosy and soft, and the staff really were lovely and friendly, the bads night sleep trumps all these things unfortunately.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your stay, we are sorry to hear that you didn't get a good night sleep, if you like on your next visit we can allocate you a room on the top floor away from the railway. Thank you for your kind comments regarding the staff, food and beds the team is delighted, we hope you will come back and visit us again soon. Best wishes Crewe Arms Hotel Team

We stayed at the Crewe Arms on 3/2/18 for one night. Lovely hotel, lovely room. Breakfast is buffet style and it's one of the best we've had in a hotel, with lots of choices from fresh fruit, croissants, Danish pastries, as well as the cooked breakfast. The staff are all very helpful too. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Spent just under 24 hours in Crewe meeting up with a friend for dinner. The hotel is ideally located just over the road from the train station. Upon arrival I was told my room had been upgraded to a Superior room. This was a pleasant surprise. Once in the room I decided to have a nice bath, but the plug would not stay down so I called reception and they immediately sent someone to have a look. When it was established that the plug would not stay down a call was made by the nice young man to reception to see if there were any other rooms available for me to move into. There was and he quickly showed me to the room, propping the door open whilst he went to get me a new key and offered to help me move my things. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and nice modern bathroom, there was a good heater on the wall which worked effectively. Temperature through the night was ideal, I don't like to be too warm in bed. Next morning we ordered breakfast in the bar area and it was served promptly. Tea and coffee, toast, cereals etc was self service. The staff on reception were very polite, friendly and helpful, infact all the staff I encountered are a credit to the Hotel. I'm not sure if I will ever return to Crewe but if I do I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

I chose this hotel for the location to Crewe train station as I had a 6am train to catch to Glasgow booked a twin room for my son & myself the room was spacious & very clean we had a meal in the restaurant which was good & the staff laid out a continental breakfast at 5am which again was very good especially as breakfast normally at 7 so I was very impressed with the staff for accommodating my request very good hotel especially for the price

"Clean and cold"

10/01/2018

The hotel itself is clean, wel, maintained just a few things let it down the shower had two temperatures quite cold or freezing even on the so called hot setting, the room cold which took till early hours to heat up. The noise outside isn't the hotels fault but the door to room 206 had a massive gap underneath which lets is more air of a cold nature and isn't a fire door if there was one. Plus points great staff, and a nice takeaway breakfast bap.

"Boxing Day lunch"

26/12/2017

Booked for Boxing Day lunch, wasn't disappointed. Greeted and shown to our table by a very friendly receptionist. Quick and efficient friendly service. Excellent food. Only criticism was that mince pies were already on table when we arrived uncovered which was a little off putting hence nobody ate them! Would have been nice if they had been brought out with coffee and served warm at the end of the meal instead.

"A well maintained hotel with easy transport links"

20/12/2017

If you are looking for a quiet, countryside hotel, this isn't it. It's next to Crewe train station, has the main road into Crewe outside, and an adjacent bus stop is served by many routes. As a consequence, the outside noise is quite noticeable but dies down over night. Early morning around 6:30am and the (quite high number of) boy racer cars act as an early morning call. The hotel staff we encountered were all very friendly and couldn't do enough to make sure we had a good stay. One especially, Adam, was probably the most helpful hotel staff member I've encountered this year. The hotel is much improved since my last visit many years ago and the public areas are spotlessly clean as well as the decor being modern but cosy. As a member of the Best Western loyalty club, we were given an upgraded room, complete with bath robe (although surprisngly no bottled water!). The room (124) was large and the bed comfortable. Although the original radiator (from the 1880's?) wasn't working, the electric radiator meant the room was lovely and warm. The bathroom too had benefitted from a recent revamp and was spacious and bright, with bath and shower. All in all a lovely hotel worthy of the Best Western branding, but a tad noisy. The Winter Sale rates are such that it would be rude not to plan a stay here! I don't often award an 'Excellent' for value, but this really was.

"Railway Hotel with Good Parking"

3
14/12/2017

City stations have platforms that are more remote than this hotel is from the West Coast Mainline. The building may be listed, it certainly echoes an era when rail was king, with some architectural details that are sublime - from the fireplace in reception to the cornicing in some rooms. The staff are working hard to keep the old girl up to date with mixed results - at the risk of over-working the analogy, painting the Forth Bridge comes to mind. But the Wi-Fi works and the food is edible. I asked for a poached egg and it arrived just-right. If you are looking for more character than a bedroom factory and wish to arrive by train, you need look no further!

Stay at this hotel to meet up with an x work colleague, The hotel is situated on a roundabout next to the railway station and advise not to open windows as the area is somewhat noisy. The rooms are fairly well equipped and what you would expect from a hotel in the best ?estern chain. Staff on the front desk offer a warm welcoming smile, along with the bar staff so the overall experience for one night was okay.

The room was ok. The mirror in the bathroom is no good for short people if you are 5 4 or below the mirror is no good. And the mirror in the room doesn't have enough lighting so tip toes to do make up. Bed was comfy and clean but the room smelt damp. Top floor room. There was also a door in our room that leads to another room that made me feel a little uneasy. View of crewe train station was ok I like people watching. Breakfast was nice decent choices. Scrambled eggs are decent unlike most other places so thumbs up for the eggs. Rest of breakfast I can't say I rate the sausage looked under cooked ( they weren't however if sausages don't have decent colour then it's a no same for bacon was a little on the under cooked side. This is great for some people just not me. Beans are cheap beans so kind of ruined my scrambled egg on toast. Most of the staff are friendly however not all of them are. I would stay again. As it was clean and bed was comfy.

We stayed overnight on a coach trip and found staff very nice, room clean, tidy but radiator not working. \\there was a warm air blower though which heated the room quickly. evening meal was nice and breakfast was adequate - cereals, fried eggs bacon sausage etc, right next to railway station and our room at the back was overlooking it - though it wasn't as noisy as I thought it would be and we had a decent nights sleep. I would stay here again.

04/12/2017

Room very clean and bed very comfy but unfortunately bathroom extractor fan very noisy. This remained loud for about 15 minutes after switching light off in the bathroom. Our room was quite small and did not have much storage space for clothes. Small wardrobe space had a chair in it. I think there was an air conditioning unit outside, not quite sure, which added to the noise. It was ok for a one night stay in this room, and we paid a reasonable price. Cannot comment on food or breakfast as we did not eat at hotel.

Hotel very close to the Railway station. On arrival to check in we were left standing for a good 5 minutes whilst the only member of staff served in the bar as well as manning the reception desk. No apology for the delay. The room was a decent size although the bed was cramped into a tiny alcove making it difficult to get in and out of bed. The bathroom does not have a blind on the window, although the glass is frosted anyone outside would be able to admire my shapely body!! As one of us was climbing out of the shower the other went in, it was then we discovered we had only one bath towel!!! Breakfast was ok, nothing special.

"Terrible hotel. Not clean."

1
21/11/2017

Rang and confirmed a double room arrived to find only a twin. A twin that hadn't been cleaned properly. Dirty floor, dust on most surfaces. Cobwebs hanging from multiple places. Bathroom smelt like stale urine and to top it off neither of the beds had clean linen. One had small black marks/mites in the other looked like someone had defecated in the bed and the sheets had had a cool wash and gone back on brown stains left on the bottom sheet and duvet sheet. Suffice to say I didn't stay and left at after midnight for another hotel it was that bad

"Very noisy room #115"

3
08/11/2017

This hotel is dated but clean and warm, the staff all seem to be nice and friendly, very good deals on prices.... We arrived late and were put in a back room #115 we noticed the floor was very creaky but the room is a decent size, clean and the bed comfy and again clean... We could hear the trains going up and down and as the windows were closed this didn't really bother us, However in the night a trip to the loo proved to be quite a trial, the flush was soooooo noisy and went on for minutes ???? it must have woke half the hotel ... Then early hours the trains started and each announcement seem to get louder and louder, NO chance of a lye in!!!!! Shower was not even Luke warm to be fair.... Breakfast was just ok, average, not as good as some Best Western hotels we stay at! So, do try this hotel as it's clean and affordable, in a handy area for the train station, but don't have a room at the back and certainly NOT #115.....

07/11/2017

I booked via Booking.com and checked that they were pet friendly prior to proceeding. I arrived late at night after driving from Dover to find that they did not allow dogs - not even little ones! The site said they did. After much checking the 3 reception staff on duty agreed with what I found on the website- but couldn't allow us to stay. Crazy and nonsensical!! I will never visit this area again. Not good experience ??

"Weekend trip"

4
12/10/2017

We stayed Friday and Saturday evenings with a coach trip. Many complained their rooms were too hot but our was too COLD. We had to ask for extra heating as all they had left us was a 12" square oil fitted radiator as the one behind the heating grills did not work. It was freshly decorated, with a refitted bathroom but the bed was far too soft and the furniture dark and a little tired. There was not a lot of choice for the evening meal but it was hot and tasty. The breakfast as not so good, it had been cooked and you served yourself from hot counters, but the bacon and egg I chose was only Luke warm. Coffee and tea was not served after the evening meal although you could buy it from the bar near reception. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were not troubled by train noise and our room overlooked the line passing near by.

Lovely clean hotel. Food was okay but the full English breakfasts were never very warm.. We stayed there for 4 nights with Alfa travel. We booked for 2 twin rooms for 2 couples , but on arrival we found we had never been booked in. We had requested rooms to be near on the 1st floor but were found rooms that were not anywhere close. Thank goodness they had rooms to give us!. The facilities in the rioom were okay for staying one night but there was not enough storage room for clothes etc. for 5 days.Staff were very polite and helpful.

Decided to pull into here on route to elsewhere due to heavy traffic. Managed to get a good bed and breakfast rate, and was given a "quieter room" The lady on reception was very pleasant and helpful. It was due to her being so nice that we decided to stay initially. The hotel itself is not of the highest quality but it was comfortable clean and welcoming. We were given good advice on the areas to go if we wanted to eat out or find the places to shop. We thought that there wasn't a lot to the town centre so decided to eat close by nearer to the football stadium which was surprisingly not too busy. A nice little place to stay for one or two nights which was although not too impressive from the outside was a nice surprise on the inside.

23/09/2017

Had a 4 night stay as a base with Alfa Travel. It was very basic room. The food was excellent but not a lot of choice in the range of menu, but ok if you are a meat eater. Traffic can be a bit noisy depending on where your room is. Our friends had a room that was adjacent to Crewe Railway station and the regular train announcements could be heard very clearly in their room, so unless you are a railway buff and enjoy the regular bing bong announcements avoid that part of the hotel.

Decided to try a bar lunch at Crewe Arms, went with a friend early lunchtime last Wednesday. It was quite busy but there was no problem in fitting us in. On arrival they were welcomed by two lovely ladies, the hotel looked beautiful, very modern with a gorgeous fireplace, the ladies took it upon themselves to carry suitcases upstairs for the guests that struggled, some of the suitcases looked bigger than the staff member but they didn't complain. The room was very disappointing, such a shame, the tv didn't work, the phone didn't work and for a while the taps didn't work, the bathroom door had to be held such with a chair otherwise you couldn't see the tv, however one particular member of staff, name possibly being Sharon/Shannon? My aunt was not 100% but can not stop talking about this particular member of staff, upon hearing my aunts problems she went down every avenue to try and solve them, even helping her out of a rather embarrassing situation with complete professionalism, all of the staff were lovely and could not be faulted; the food was excellent too, however this one staff member has stood out and is a credit to the hotel. My aunt would still stay again as even though the room wasn't how expected the overall stay was excellent.

Thank you for taking the time to write about your aunts stay with us while she was on a coach trip. I am sorry to hear about your aunts disappointment with her room and the problems that she in-counted, these have been noted by the members of staff on duty and are being sorted. The whole team is delighted to hear that your aunt liked the building, the food that was served and the staff were happy to help your aunt and any other guest who needed assistance. We all hope your aunt will come back and visit us again soon. Best wishes BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel Team

After my review of 26 /27 April, I was quite looking forward to another family meal here. In April the menu was excellent. Not this time. We arrived at approx. 13.15 only to be told the braising steak had finished. We were then handed a set lunch menu. Very very disappointing. Ok the price was cheap but I would have preferred the previous menu as it was varied and good. A couple of us had the chicken and tarragon with rice. My sister in law would have preferred chips with hers but was told she couldn't change the rice, but could purchase a bowl of chips. My partner had the gammon which was ok but the three roast potatoes were hard so he shared her chips. My brother in law had the scampi which he said was mostly batter. I would have liked to say have said something, but being very British they wouldn't. It is such a shame as our previous visit was great. As I said before we meet up in Crewe as we live in the midlands and they live in the Lake District. We will just have to find another venue Ps. On the board outside there was an excellent menu but we couldn't find out when it would be served Sorry

After staying in April , we decided to do it again whilst visiting family . We arrived via the station & check in was fine . We were in room 101 , very spacious ,light & airy . Plenty of storage space ,lovely comfortable beds & nice clean bathroom with a good shower . With the Windows open ,we could hear the trains & announcements & I was a bit concerned that it would disturb us ,but with the Windows closed overnight it wasn't a problem . Breakfast was good , choice of cereal ,fruit and full English ,all help yourself with plenty of tea ,coffee & juices . I couldn't fault our stay, it's good value for money ,the staff are polite & helpful and will hopefully stay again soon .

The staff at this hotel were absolutely amazing and did a very good job at looking after my grandparents extra needs. The staff were willing to help and all came across very welcoming and friendly. The hotel was very clean throughout and had an amazing breakfast selection to choose from. The bedsheets felt too big for the size of the bed which ended up feeling too hot and you could hear railway announcements clearly, but was somewhat expecting that as it's right next door to the station itself. The wifi connection was weak throughout the hotel and the only place I managed to pick it up was at reception. Theres a small smoking area near the entrance to the hotel however it isn't sheltered and there isn't seats either. I found many of the smokers had an issue with the lack of seating and shelter given to the smoking area. This is definitely something the hotel needs to fix but overall the stay at this hotel was pleasant and I would stay here again if ever i found myself in crewe again.

We had a family room with our grand daughter. When we arrived the third bed was not made up but this was done immediately when we brought it to the staffs attention. The electronic key cards are a bit of a nusance as they often fail to work. Had to get a new one 4 times in a 3 night stay. The room was a bit threadbare, but spotlessy clean and perfectly adequate, as was the bathroom - although the taps seemed to have a mind of their own. The room overlooked the railway platform and the double glazing did little to stop the noise of trains and railway announcements. However, it was bearable and didn't bother us too much. It has to be expected if you choose a hotel on top of the station. WiFi didn't work too well in the rooms, but was OK in the lounge area. The hotel has a lift, and plenty of parking which is free when you register your car at reception. There is a small smoking area ( strangely at the front) and whilst I realise smoking is not welcome these days, a bench to sit on and a roof on the pergola would have been nice. The "serve yourself" breakfast was good quality and plentiful, with lots of variety. The staff could not have been better. Very welcoming, friendly and helpful at all times. Ten out of ten for the staff and cleanliness of this hotel. All things considered, I would stay here again.

Lovely room super comfy bed and very polite receptionists. Evening meal very good didn't have breakfast so can't comment. No hot food apart from soup on room service menu which is disappointing. I was in a room overlooking the road and train station and it was a bit noisy I was woken a few times. Nice big car park.

Stayed here as part of an Alton towers package, we arrived just before 7 pm to find out that the hotel was overbooked. Not as I understand the hotels fault, however the girls on reception did a fantastic job of juggling rooms to get us sorted. We originally booked a quad room (2adults 2 kids) but ended up with two rooms next to each other which was fine by us. Pizza Hut delivery for dinner then settled down for the night. Breakfast the next day was a disappointment, Gluten free bread was requested and offered but no separate toaster, scrambled egg was a slight shade of green, asked for fresh and it was provided. It was on a whole just ok, but I would have expected better. The check in juggling was about 20 minutes in total and we felt that the girls on reception couldn't do enough. 10 out of 10. Breakfast for quality and experience was 3 out of 10. Maybe we hit on a bad day, certainly room for improvement. Would I stay again........ I would have to give it some thought.

"A COMFORTABLE STAY, WOULD BE HAPPY TO RETURN"

13/08/2017

Stayed for a Saturday evening meal, b&b as part of a coach outing. We all received a warm welcome on arrival and very quick check in to our rooms. The bedroom and en-suite bathroom were spacious and nicely decorated. Plenty of hot water, fluffy white towels and a bath with shower. The bed was big and comfortable and a complimentary tea tray was also provided. In room facilities included tv with remote control, ironing board and iron, a fan and a hair dryer. There was a good choice of starter, main and dessert for the evening meal which is self-service together with tea, coffee and jugs of water. Breakfast was good and when my husband asked for poached eggs instead of fried eggs these were quickly cooked and brought to the table. A minor criticism would be that there should be serving tongs for the bread so that everyone is not handling the bread. We spent a relaxing evening in the bar and all in all had a very enjoyable stay. There's a large car park and the hotel is very close to the railway station. We will return if and when we are in the area again.

"A nice hotel - delicious evening meals"

13/08/2017

Stayed for two nights so I could go and see my beloved football team, Crewe Alexandra, play Newport County, just down the road at the Alexandra Stadium. Queen Victoria used to stay overnight at "The Crewe Arms" on her frequent rail journeys between Buckingham Palace and Balmoral. It was one of the first purpose-built "railway hotels" in the world, and is just across the road from Crewe station. Although it's such an old, rambling hotel, the public areas and corridors are well maintained, nicely painted and carpeted. All the staff were friendly (I must mention Adam who served us food and drinks many times, and is a fellow Crewe Alex fan). FOOD: We enjoyed delicious EVENING MEALS on both nights of our stay, but were disappointed with the BREAKFAST buffet - totally self-service, including a tea/coffee machine that was faulty, and a toasting machine that wasn't great either. ROOM: We were in the twin room 224 at the rear of the hotel. Spacious, with comfy beds, but there were no spoons on the complimentary tea/coffee tray when we arrived. The most annoying feature of Room 224 was the poor toilet flush. Maybe it's to do with low water pressure in an old building, but it was an issue for us. We'll stay at the "Crewe Arms Hotel" again (when we come to watch Crewe Alexandra) as it's somewhat superior to the nearby "Premier Inn" in Weston Road where we've stayed previously. :

"Very old hotel"

10/08/2017

Although the hotel is very old, the staff try and make your visit welcoming. It must cost site management a lot of money to keep all areas of the hotel modern, updated and fully operational. It is on the junction of some main roads and right up against the station/railway lines. So, noise can be an issue in the public areas and, more importantly, your bedroom! Car park available for residents.

01/08/2017

Have not enjoyed this hotel one bit. Although the staff are spot on this hotel is no good if its sleep you want. Rooms are out dated bathroom fixtures falling off. Paid 100 quid for the night an didn't even have a bath in room. Mould in shower an the shower head hanging off. I worked nights Monday an was woke to the noise of glass being shot in skip at 6 next night I was in room overlooking rail track and I got no sleep. Food was crap for a great western. At breakfast The bacon and sausages tried to do a runner when I lifted lid . Evening meal was ok the chips are good an my gammon was 50 percent fat. Internet wise I couldn't get nothing in this room so couldn't get my work done.

Stayed for 2 nights over weekend of 21/22nd July. Had a lovely clean spacious room at the front which was surprisingly quiet. The hotel decor was refreshing, the staff all polite, friendly and helpful. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant one evening. All cooked fresh to order and nicely presented with a good choose of meals. All-in-all an excellent short break.

"A WALK IN THE PAST"

17/07/2017

The hotel is a very old Railway hotel and must cost a fortune to keep in the good condition we found it. Very clean, well decorated. Reception was well organised and speedy. The staff were fantastic. All so helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them. The room was large and very comfortable, but very hot when we stayed. Could have done with a fan in the room. Fortunately the dining room had air conditioning. The food was plentiful with a good choice as well as very enjoyable. The only draw back at each meal was the chaos of layout for the serving area and a toaster which blocked everything as it was so inefficient. A good hotel clean, friendly hotel with Excellent staff.

"Clean room good nights sleep"

4
16/07/2017

Check in was very efficient and friendly. Room was clean and towels fluffy. Hot water was plentiful :-) I got a really good nights sleep on the second floor. I am very happy with the room. However, I sat in the restaurant for a very long time and was completely ignored by the waiting staff. I was there long enough for the man behind me to make two long business calls, the man at the table on my right to make his order and be served a beer, other people to sit at a round table for 4 and be served wine. Long enough for the server to go in and out of the kitchen more than once. Long enough to not wish to stay and order the Burger that I was looking forward to after reading the menu in my room. Epic fail here. Not even the slightest glimmer of eye contact did I receive. Shameful customer service...

"A hotel from a bygone age please preserve."

4
16/07/2017

We have been on many coach tours with National and stayed in a variety of hotels but it's been a while since we stayed in a Best Western and my recollection was of an older establishment compared with the Holiday/Jurys Inn type of establishment. And so it proved with this hotel, from a bygone age but none the worse for it, our room, on the second floor, was a fair size and very welcoming and clean, what more could you ask for? Check in had been straight forward and the electronic age has overtaken the door key. The bygone age hotel provided a bath, and showerhead affixed to the taps, instead of the just the shower option, soap/shower gel was provided by containers on the wall. My wife and I freshened up and went down for our evening meal, the décor of these older establishment tends to be more stylish, not so much wooden floors, more carpets. We were directed to a large beautifully styled room, again a décor from a bygone age of large cornices and huge windows with imposing curtains. We were handed a menu, the soup was served to you but for the main meal you just went to a little room next door, set up as a temporary servery if you like and picked from what was on offer. We had the chicken, served to by a chef, then you chose your veg and potato's, but then another staff member served either gravy or a mushroom sauce. As seems to be the case a whole coach load of customers, many elderly, are not patient so when some of the holiday makers dawdled over their choice of food others soon got irate, but the staff did their best. The food was superb, from the soup to the sweet, which was, like the soup, served to you by very able and efficient staff. We finished our meal, then back to our room to settle down for the night in comfortable beds, and having had a fairly busy day of walking we were soon asleep. Down for breakfast in the morning and a similar set up only you just helped yourself, in the little annexe room, for the full English breakfast. When some of the food trays were low they were replenished from a kitchen in a room opposite, but as is the case some still grumbled. Fruit juice, bread and a toasting machine, fruit itself, yoghurt, were all on offer but I've probably missed something off as I just take on board what I want. Again, staff were on hand to take away empty plates and like the night before the same staff and the same efficiency. This hotel was far more decorative than some we have stayed in and I hope they don't refurb or modernise the décor in the future, freshen things up by all means but the splendour of such hotels are fading from our country.

"4 Great Nights"

4
04/07/2017

We had 4 nights in the hotel and had only one "complaint"; the rest of the time was excellent. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We ate in the hotel, the breakfast was as good as any we have had as part of the booking. Dinners each night were really great pub food or better!! It was also very close to Crewe Station so an easy base for trains. It was also close to a car hire place and was easy to get to and from when touring. The hotel itself is like many older UK hotels, like Topsy she grew!! Passageways and corridors everywhere and floors that are not lever. A hotel that is full of character. The only problem was that the room was above the area where the venting from the kitchen so was noisy between 6am and 9pm.

"Reflects the great tradition of railway hotels"

4
01/07/2017

Stayed for a night before working locally the next morning. Very courteous welcome, lovely staff behind the desk. Room was fine, narrow shape but enough space, plugs, places to put things...TV a little small, especially as viewed along the length of the room...but that's a minor matter. Very clean bathroom, nicely kitted out, hot flow in the sink a bit weak, but a good shower. Evening meal in the bar area, a little short on atmosphere, but a decent beer and a very good house burger, excellent sides, onion chutney, good presentation. Breakfast a little less exciting, plenty of cereals and fruit, but so-so coffee, truly horrible orange juice, anaemic sausage, flabby bacon. Redeemed by very good black pudding and mushrooms. Why no fried eggs? That scrambled stuff isn't half as nice. Croissants rather stodgy, not very nice, made me want to be in France in the queue at a bakery! The hotel has character, history, a great location and super staff...it just needs some improvement on the breakfast and a little refreshing for some of the decor and it could justifiably resume its place as one of the better railway hotels. After all, it was the first one in the world.

Hi All, stayed in this hotel, as we had a Company conference locally. The rooms are perfect for a short stay, drink value for money was perfect. Not what you would expect from a Hotel bar. we didn't do the food due to a good number of us meeting up in Crewe. The Staff at this hotel are 2nd to none. John, Jamie, Phil, Adam and a lady ( sorry I forgot the name.) We are all in the same industry, some of our group have hotels some not But I do feel if you want a true opinion from people that work day in and day out doing the same job, please take note of this review. 28/06/2017

Had an opportunity to have a meal at the @1650 restaurant from a win by my D-in-Law due to the recent refurb. Entering the hotel was received well but after that service went downhill. The restaurant was well laid out but lacked any ambience not helped by the large screen TV on 1 wall. The serving staff were obviously following a script, constantly asking for feedback, everything ok? style but without any real empathy to what we said. The starter, breaded Brie, took quite a while to come but the main course followed soon after the starter was cleared. Both the quality and size of the portions were more than adequate though the mashed potato was lumpy. The lack of choice on desserts left both of us to forego the third course. Overall I was dissatisfied with the experience & would not return

"Not the best."

25/06/2017

We stayed here via a national holidays excursion. Our driver said it was a fab hotel so our expectations were raised as we have been in a few "national holiday choices and usually good". Check in was good and quick as they were ready for us and the staff were very friendly. A very small lift took us to our floor. First impressions of the room was very old fashioned. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was adequate as far as size but the light was very poor and the fan very noisy. No slip mat in the shower which makes me very nervous and no handrail in case of a slip. The shower was not easy to work either. The towels in our room were quite old and tatty with a couple of them fraying. The wardrobe was large but overpowering. The window was open when we arrived but we soon had to close it firstly as we could hear the railway opposite,a very busy road and also the window rattled like and which was even more annoying so we had to close it which meant we cooked. Evening meal was adequate but nothing startling, the saving grace was the veg was fresh and not tinned but overall not hot. The lounge area is fairly pleasant but don't be in a hurry for a drink as the reception staff were also the bar staff so you could wait a while. Breakfast was very disappointing, the sausages were horrid and cheap, the eggs looked as hard as the Hobbs, the plates were cold so overall not good. The teapot was empty and it was a good ten minutes before it was replenished. The orange juice was so very strong I'm sure if I had drunk a whole glass it would have stripped the lining of my throat. It was a very disappointing stay and I certainly would not choose to stay here of my own accord. The only good point for us was that the staff were very friendly but just not enough of them.

"Tired and noisy but friendly"

22/06/2017

Good buffet style breakfast including hot food. Friendly pleasant bar. Friendly staff. Good-ish location apart from the inherent noise. Decent Indian nearby (passage to India). Noise from the train station next door and the main Rd is a big issue at this hotel, particularly in summer when it is hot. Maybe secondary glazing and air con would help, but that would require money to be invested. This seems unlikely given the cheap plumbing/fittings in the bathroom (taps that go the "wrong" way, are loosely installed as in the basin, or a shower mixer that isn't thermostatic, a noisy macerator-type loo, very poor lighting). The key card failed twice during a three night stay (No I didn't keep it next to my phone) Yes there is also an incredibly creaky staircase, almost comical. So overall, hotel is in need of some investment.

"Great hotel; recommend it for conferences"

17/06/2017

We hired a few rooms at the Crewe Arms Best Western earlier in June for a conference event and also stayed overnight. We were really looked after. The food was good, rooms were comfortable with everything that was needed. The conference went off without a hitch and the food provided was plentiful, well cooked and amazing (loads of choice). The price was extremely comparable too. The fact that the hotel is situated right next to the rail station with ample parking, makes it ideal for conferences. Definitely couldn't recommend it enough!

I stayed here on a busniness trip at the end of May and left feeling glad my company rather than me personally had paid for the stay. First impressions were good though, easy to find and great location for those coming by train. Characterful building with lovely presented reception area and friendly desk staff. However was not impressed by the state the room was left and, had the bed not been made, was questioning whether it had actually been cleaned or not prior to my arrival! A damp, dirty towel had been left on the side, dust layered everywhere and a corpse of a smacked wasp stuck in plain sight on the net curtain. Nevermind though because the bed was super soft and comfy and I was looking forward to a good nights sleep. However you do need to be a heavy sleeper to not be disturbed by the train station or the road as my particular room was near the corner at the front of the building - I suppose those on the other side may be quieter. Come the morning though, I was pleased to find "Dove" shower gel rather than some cheap non-lathering stuff you normally get and the clean fresh towels were soft and large. The breakfast could have been brilliant had there been enough left - a couple slices of bread left, one sausage, a small piece of bacon and a scoop of beans - and as I was in a bit of a rush I couldn't wait for more to be made. But as I arrived only half way through the breakfast service there should have been more readily available really. But what I had was tasty and well cooked. Overall, is a comfortable and well positioned hotel which offers a great stop over for business trips - the cleanliness and breakfast did let it down though which should be top priority for any hotel.

The service in the hotel on Saturday 3rd June at lunch time was abysmal. There appeared to be insufficient staff. I had to wait 35 minutes for a sandwich which when it appeared was turkey which proved to have no flavour. Chips were provide which had been overcooked, some were very dark in colour and far too thick. In fact later in the day I was ill. The wine was poorly served. There were a large number of people in the lounge waiting for drinks and food, with only 3 members of staff serving in the bar and from the kitchen. Not the standard which I expect from Best Western Hotels, and certainly does not encourage me to return.

My husband and myself stayed here Saturday night as part of a touring coach party. Our room was spacious and clean, and as we asked in advance for a quiet room, we experienced no noise from the adjacent railway station or main road. Our room telephone was dead, which we reported immediately, and was assured would be replaced, but never was. We only had enough towels for one person, and had to wait quite a while before the others appeared, after having to go back down to reception to ask for them owing to the fact that we had no telephone. This made showering a bit of a rush. Dinner was fixed at the ridiculously early time of 6.30. (We didn't check in until nearly 5.00pm because of tour times). The meal itself was a special touring menu. I asked for cheese and biscuits instead of the bland cake on offer and was told it would be £3.00 extra!! Breakfast was lacking virtually everything you might expect from Best Western. No mushrooms, no baked beans, no black pudding, no choice of eggs, (only fried and swimming in fat). The tea was from a vacuum flask on the counter, and appeared to made with only 1 teabag for the whole party. Small tea cups with no saucers, (very elegant). I had a look in the 'other breakfast room' at the breakfast provided for guests not with our tour, and they had everything one would expect from Best Western hotels. I would describe dinner, and especially breakfast as lacking, if not downright mean. I'd think twice about staying there again.

Rachael B, Front Office Manager at Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you gave us to implement improvements to ensure we offer a better experience for guests in the future. With regards to the time of dinner service, this time was set by the driver during the day, we have spoken to housekeeping to check the number of amenities in each room for example towels. Also with regards to the phone not working they tried different phones on the night of your stay and it was the line itself that was not working so our team who look after this have been informed of the problem you experienced. I apologize for not exceeding your expectations with regards to the food we will be looking at this and making improvements. Again we apologize and the whole team hopes you will come back and give us another try in the future . Best wishes BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel Team

We stayed here after having been to Chester this morning. The hotel has been recently refurbished and the staff were very welcoming on arrival. We got room 117 which was large clean and comfortable. Surprise it's the first hotel I've been in that has sky in the rooms. The evening meal was good. You went to the countee and asked for what you wanted. The main meal was delicious. Only disadvantage was the railway!. We know it's already documented that it a a railway hotel. The Windows had to be opened because of the very warm weather. So the noise couldn't be dimmed. The tannoy was on till early hours. We expected this so if your going don't get a room near the railway. It's manageable for one night. The breakfast was a little disappointing only basic . Limited Choice.- no beans mushrooms or Choice of eggs. There was only jam and marmalade had to be asked for. The layout of food service needs to be looked at as there were waitresses walking out of the kitchen between people getting meals. Otherwise the staff were very friendly and polite.

Stayed on a Friday evening - refurbishment has improved everything massively.. rooms spacious and clean - a little noisy, but it is a railway hotel. Downside - uninterested receptionist on the Friday, but more personality from the lady Saturday morning. Breakfast- not good - surely in 2017 we shouldn't still be getting tinned tomatoes... All in all decent stay but wouldn't rush back...

"Really not my best choice of hotel"

3
13/05/2017

I chose this hotel for a two night break in Cheshire based on our experience of BW's Castle Green Hotel in Kendal last year. Sadly this hotel was poor by comparison. On arrival in reception I didn't feel the hotel had any character and although the reception staff were pleasant enough they did not match the Kendal staff for customer care. The lift to our room had quite a foul smell on entry and could be quite off putting when coming down in the morning for breakfast. The room itself (room 109) was quite nice and clean. The bed was squashed into an alcove which was so tight that it was a delicate balancing act to get out without smashing your toes into the the bed support or falling over the lagging on the radiator pipes. I did manage to kick the bed support one night which was extremely painful and the owners should think themselves lucky that I did not break a toe. Apart from that the room was quiet and I did manage to get two good nights sleep. The window overlooked a scruffy yard between two parts of the hotel so at least I had that to thank for a quiet night. Breakfast was a buffet style affair which was OK but not exceptional. I have coeliacs and during our stay in Kendal I was provided with Gluten free sausage and bread each morning. Here I was told sorry we don't have gf sausage and was only offered gf bread on one morning. Before using Best Western again I would have to look closely at each hotels reviews and not just go on name alone. In Kendal the staff would have a chat with us in the evening and ask what we had been up to that day. The staff in this hotel had very little interest or interaction with us it's customers often not bothering to say good evening when we returned from a day out. It was disappointing and I would not choose to stay here in future. Sorry

"We Felt Like Family"

13/05/2017

Our first stop on our England 2017 adventure was the Best Western Crewe Arms Hotel. It was the best choice we could have made. We stayed four nights. From the moment we stepped through the Victorian era doorways until we waved goodbye to our new friends, we felt like family. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were kept spotless and every morning we were treated to a hearty breakfast. When we returned at night, a nourishing and delicious meal awaited us. There is also a profound sense of history. This was the first railway hotel built in England. Even more exciting: there was once a secret underground passage built especially for Queen Victorian which allowed her to make her way, unnoticed, to the train station across the road. A special thanks to those who gave us a wonderful stay: Marcine, Adam, Alex, Ruth, Amy, Julie, John and "big" Steve and "little" Steve.

Hotel is facing the railway. First room we had was noisy as you hear the train departure/arrival announcements and trains on tracks. It was big and spacious though. After a request for change of room we got a quieter room but much smaller. However it is adequate. The bed is comfy and toilet clean. Wifi is strong and fast. Shower is hot and has good pressure. Breakfast is the usual English breakfast with bacon, hot dogs, breads and fruits. What else can I ask for?

Came here as part of national holidays mystery tour that cost £59 pp for travel overnight stay evening meal and breakfast so really wasn't expecting anything much but myself and my friend were pleasantly suprised. It is located right across the road from the train station our room overlooked it but can honestly say I really didn't notice the trains. Rooms are good size they were clean and had hair dryer, tea and coffee facilities the beds are seriously the softest beds I've ever felt I nearly rolled off several times much to my friends amusement. The check in and out was quick and the staff were happy and friendly. They have their own restaurant and bar of which we used both as our deal included meals the evening meal was 3 courses with 2-3 options of each and was really tasty the breakfast the following morning also was nice. The bar looked like it had been newly refurbished drinks were of price you would expect. There is a garage at the side of it where we nipped to get drinks n snacks. Would recommend to anyone needing a base to explore surrounding areas we visited Liverpool and Chester.

Had a wonderful meal here. We meet our family here which is more or less halfway between our homes. Would highly recommend the good in the 1650 restaurant. We all had the pate starter, I had the steak and ale pie, my partner had the fish cakes, my sister in law had the deep fried cheese goujons and my brother in law had a beef burger. All excellent. The only little niggle was that we ordered our meal at approx 1.20 but my brother in law came later 2.10. We didn't realise that they stop serving at 2, but to their credit, they did let him order.

Stayed at the Crewe arms whilst visiting family . Normally stay with them but this time it wasn't convenient. Got an excellent value deal including a bottle of wine . On arrival ,checking in was quick ,the hotel didn't seem busy . The young girl on the desk wasn't particularly welcoming and we were given directions to the room . It was up several flights of stairs so if anyone taking large bags /luggage ,it would be worth asking for a low floor . There is a lift but I don't think it served our floor . The room was nice ,situated at the back ,overlooking South junction. It smelled a little musty ,but after opening the window it was fine . Lovely comfortable beds , nice hot shower & sky tv. Being so close to the railway I expected some noise but with the window closed we didn't hear a thing . Breakfast was excellent & included in the price and the waitress ,Marcine was very friendly as was Alex who was on the desk /bar . The barman (Phil ?) was exceptionally helpful & friendly . Nothing was too much trouble for him & he sorted out my bottle of wine . I would definitely stay here again .

My business has required me to visit Crewe on a number of occasions since the autumn of last year. Since then there have been a number of good changes at The Crewe Arms Hotel. "Bunch of robbing shysters"

29/11/2016

11 minutes sat in the car, waiting for my partner = £100 parking ticket. Needless to say, I won't be using Best Western in the future, in any shape or form. This blatant highway robbery does the brand no favours whatsoever. I'd have (reluctantly) paid, say, £30 for the inadvertent overstay (the signage was not at all clear in the darkness at 8 o'clock in the evening), but £100 for 11 minutes is nauseatingly disproportionate. You should be ashamed of yourselves for associating yourselves with the bunch of crooks called ParkingEye.

One nights stay we found food very tasty breakfast was self service we did not book hotel but went on a bus trip There was a couple of things that were a bit disappointing At 5.6 feet tall I had to stoop to shower I am not that tall bit extra chrome pipe and couple of compression connectors would sort this out Woke up at 6 am on Sunday morning really hot duvet was on floor cold shower with window open thermostat valve turned off Would I go again yes but not in 109 Forgot it is right next to railway station so expect some noise but nothing to upset Staff are brilliant

Pleasant enough stay however woken a couple times by the train station next door and the rooms weren't the warmest did have a extra heater though. I'd ask for a top on the roundabout side! I think I was closest to station! Room130. Food was great tho at a reasonable price.

"Would not recommend staying"

2
21/11/2016

Booked the hotel room under the description of Superior double room with bath robes, fruit on arrival and pillow menu. when we got there the room was a lot smaller than the photo on the website and was what I would describe as a basic room. There wasn't any sign of bath robes, fruit or a pillow menu. On complaining at Reception I was told they don't have pillow menus and fruit is only for elite members which is not what it stated on the internet. It was very noisy and I would not recommend staying or ever stay again myself.

17/11/2016

I've written on this place in the past. I was hot annoyed and needlessly ruthless. So I've come back with business again and I've got to say it's such a pleasant place to be. In the interim I've been staining at express places which are around the same price but a little sterile. This is full of character and feeling and if your going to pay the same price why not have a room with high ceilings huge sash windows and beds I can really doze in. There were no double beds available when I arrived but the singles for me, a man of generous proportions(fat) they were so comfortable. I guess it's a cross between faulty towers and something else. But it's worth s try it will grow on you. The food is great so generous and homey Even better are the staff really genuine and good people.

Since this hotel has become a Best Western there has been many positive improvements. The public rooms are light and airy with a nice bar / bistro area and comfortable simple lounge. Breakfast was served in the old but pleasant dining room. The staff were friendly and helpful. As for the bedrooms, they have had a makeover also, especially the bathrooms. Rooms have free wifi, tv, coffee making facilities, iron and board and toiletries. The bed has a soft mattress and the room was pleasantly warm. This is a great place for a short stay as its opposite the railway station and within a 5 minute walk to the football stadium. There are many eateries close by.

One night stay at the Crewe Arms Hotel opposite the station. Checked in late and out early and the staff were really friendly and happy to assist. Room was big enough, very comfy bed and new shower/bath room as good as any other budget or mid range hotel. 06/11/2016

The location is great, across the road from the train station, the check in was fast and friendly, and we were very impressed with the room. Really good sized with very comfy beds, large TV and massive bathroom with bath and shower. Lovely comfortable pillows too. During the night the noise from the other guests was awful and we were woken up 4 or 5 times all through the night by arguing, doors repeatedly slammed, at 4am someone running up and down the corridor singing jingle bells at the top of their voice! It was a Saturday night, so some noise is to be expected, but I have never had this level of noise in a Travelodge or a premier inn (our usual choice). We have stayed in the best western forest hills, and that was lovely too, and we had such a good nights sleep there, but I guess this crewe location attracts a different clientele at the weekend. The food was good, the checkout was fast, but unfortunately I wouldn't stay here again at the weekend due to the noise issue.

I am a rail enthusiast so room 117 overlooking the West Coast main line and Crewe station was perfect . However if you are a light sleeper( sorry about the pun) then rooms on this side of the hotel should be avoided! Breakfast was good as was the meal in the restaurant. However.on my second night there was a coach party in so I had to eat in the bistro. The kitchen staff were obviously overstretched as my burger was edible but cremated!

Ideally situated almost opposite Crewe Railway station and within a few miles of the M6 motorway here you will be greeted on arrival by caring members of staff who make you feel most welcome at all times. Good safe car parking on site, don't forget to have your car registration number logged to avoid a parking fine. The en-suite rooms are spotlessly clean and with comfortable beds. The dining area for breakfast and dinner is well laid out and is of a standard that many other hotels would envy yet fail to equal. Breakfast offers a wide choice which should satisfy the needs of everyone. I will return again. JB from the west Highlands of Scotland.

Was in the area for one night and had the hotel booked for us in advance. Found this a great old style Station Hotel, thoroughly modern with fresh décor, very friendly staff, great food, and very comfortable rooms. The room was typical of the older hotels, big room which favourable comperes with more modern hotels where you have difficulty swinging a cat. If in the area again wont hesitate to book there.

"Nice hotel but room for improvement"

16/10/2016

We recently stayed here for a weekend break. This review is based purely on our experience at that time. The hotel is a large old building so expect creeky floors. It is very clean throughout and the staff were very friendly. Our room was a good size, clean, had full size bath \\ shower, WC. Tea & Coffee with 2 cups but only 1 pack of biscuits. There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel and it is in a very good location easy to get to with a large free car park. The bad \\ petty bits for us were Room was dark no light near mirror so made it difficult to see, no shaver point in bathroom. Our bed was extremely soft which my wife didn't mind but I have a bad back and it gave no support so found it hard to get to sleep and woke with Back pains. The food in the restaurant could be much better. Both our starters were good, pate' and crispy crumbed brie. We both had lamb shanks which were rubbery like boil in the bag and bland not freshly roasted. The mash potatoes with cabbage and bacon were lovely and tasted fresh. The desserts were again bland cheesecake and bread and butter pudding with ready made custard. We asked to see the wine list, the waitress went off to get it but came back to tell us they didn't have one so we just ordered house red. A lady on a nearby table asked what soup it was but the waitress did not know so had to go ask, then the lady asked what vegetables came with the meal again the waitress did not know and had to go ask. Not very good, surely as a waitress you would make sure you knew what was been served. At breakfast we were greeted in the restaurant and our room number taken then told to sit anywhere and help ourselves. Basic full English with a choice of cereals, croissants and pastries. Nothing special and Luke warm. On the second day we stood five minutes and no one appeard so we signed ourselves in. There was no cutlery on the tables so we had to wait for a waitress to appear to ask for some. Overall this is a decent hotel and we would stay again if in the area but just feel that some things need to be reviewed. On checking out they had forgotten to add the bottle of wine to our bill so I had to point it out to them. One last point to note is that the hotel is right next to the railway station so expect some noise.

Really great visit. After working all day until 8pm we arrived to a friendly young lady on reception who kindly advised that we were welcome to go for food but due to a coach party arrival we were best to wait for half an hour. When we went for the food it was great quality and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Good nights sleep then we had an amazing cooked breakfast. Can't wait to stay again.

"Mixed opinions on business trip"

Me and 9 of my colleagues stayed here in September for one evening. In general the hotel was okay, a bit run down and the rooms are all of different standards. One of my colleagues had sky TV with a large bed and another had a small room and a broken TV. If you like trains, this is the place for you. Continuous noise from the platforms and shaking as the trains came past. Breakfast was generally poor, would not advise paying for this. This said, I have to praise the staff who were lovely and couldn't be more helpful. Well run place, just a shame about the food and some of the rooms and bad. Giving this "3* - Average"

"Good hotel but beware of the noise"

19/09/2016

I stayed broke my rail journey from Hereford to Maryport with an overnight stay at the Crewe Arms Hotel choosing it in part because it was a trusted brand and in part because of its proximity to the railway station. The public areas have clearly been refurbished in recent times and are bright, clean and pleasant. My single room was ample in proportion and looked out over the adjacent railway station. That wasn't a problem for me, but being a humid night, I had to keep the window open and the noise of passing trains etc. might disturb the light sleeper. The buffet breakfast the following morning was very tasty with plenty of choice. Overall, I enjoyed the Crewe Arms and would stay again.

"Fairly Good stay in this hotel"

13/09/2016

i stayed on a business overnighter: The Good: I had a brilliant nights sleep in a soft comfy relatively high bed. A proper sized bath, with an overbath shower. The bathroom felt fairly modern. Good size flat screen with sky TV, including movies. There were plenty of plug sockets in the bedroom. Reception was welcoming. The Not so good: The general decor in the communal areas felt unmodern -particularly the carpets, and dining room. The breakfast was not so good, plenty to choose but not good quality - particularly the hot food. The bacon was good, the sausage was tasteless, fried eggs sat there overcooked with hard yolks, beans were ok, but the fat used for mushrooms and hash browns tasted like reused takeway fat (maybe harsh, but it is rare that i leave half a plateful of food. That said there were yoghurts, fresh fruits, cereals, so plenty of other food. Overall some strong points but some weaknesses making it somewhere between average and good.

The room was lovely - large and comfortable. Free wifi in rooms is a big plus. Earplugs kept away the train noise. Hot water isn't hot - more like luke warm - so forget about a nice relaxing hot bath at the end of the day. We stayed with a coach tour and I can only say the meals were dreadful. We ate there one night only and had mush and frozen vegetables. Didn't bother eating there any more even though it was included in our coach package. Others reported each day that the meals were awful. Ate one night at the lovely Premier Inn just down the road who told us the regular chef at Crewe Arms is away. Possibly this is so, don't know. I do know that if I had not taken another lovely coach tour with Alpha I would never travel with them again. This hotel is way below standard for Alfa.

Rachael B, Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Sir / Madam Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us here at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms. We are pleased that you liked the room and the problem you encountered with the hot water has now been solved. We are sorry that you felt that the vegetables are frozen, some are but the majority are fresh, especially at this time of year when they are in plentiful supply. It is unusual for us to get complaints regarding food at the hotel, in fact quiet the opposite. Your comments, however, have been noted and we will refocus our efforts. We are sorry that we did not get it right on this occasion but hope that you will consider staying with us again in the future.

Stated for one night 10th September. We were extremely impressed with the Crewe Arms and felt comfy as soon as we walked through the door. Friendly efficient staff, clean cosy room and a sparkling bathroom. Bed was very comfortable.. Breakfast was hot and tasty and had lots of choice, the waitresses were very efficient and approachable. The only thing I would suggest would be to move the tea and coffee station from it's central position to perhaps a corner on it's own, only because it causes gridlock with people choosing their breakfast and those doing beverages. That said, would be visit again ? Yes, most definitely. Fab stay !

The hotel is right next to the main rail station which was extremely useful for us. All the staff there were warm and welcoming, the room was very clean and tidy and quiet. We had a meal there during our stay and the quality of food was excellent although perhaps waiting for our main course was a little longer than would be expected but then they were very busy. All in all a very nice stay!

Staff are really helpful and lovely but arrived to use the disabled room with wet room and there was no lighting in the room at all which couldn't be fixed. power sockets worked but no lights Appeared that the room hadn't been used in a while or serviced recently, no tea or coffee on the service tray and dindt really look like it had been cleaned recently.

30/08/2016

Stayed here for one night after a wedding at crewe hall. The hotel itself is nice, staff were very pleasant, happy to get us a taxi etc and gave me a toothbrush as I forgot mine! Rooms very spacious, lovely bed. The only thing I have to complain about is the room we got literally backed onto crewe station!! And I mean RIGHT on it. Considering the hotel seemed empty I thought this was a bit unfair. So sleeping with the window open was impossible as from 6am every single train was announced loudly and you felt like you was lying on the track with the noise. So cue us melting in the room because of the heat! Other than that no complaints!

"Standard accommodation"

29/08/2016

We stayed at this hotel after attending my sons wedding at Crewe Hall. The room we booked was a superior room for 4 which was to include extras we were listed when we booked as being available in our rooms. We have stayed at other Best Western hotels before. The location is good with plenty of parking. Make sure you hand in your car registration when you check in. When we arrived, the rooms were not as shown on the Best Western site we booked from. When we booked the superior room was supposed to have a basket of fruit, dressing gowns, slippers and drinks. None of these were in our room. We did report this to reception and when we returned after the evening reception, 1 bottle of water, a slice of fruit cake and a cookie were left to share as compensation between 4 of us. The other room was supposed to have a cot. This was not in the room and we were then given a travel cot which had a lump on the frame at the base so was not used. Sufficient towels we not placed in the second room, neither did it have toiletries as the other did. We returned to the hotel very late. The beds were comfortable, were quite big and of a reasonable standard. They were not up to the standard of others in the chain. We had breakfast in the hotel which was very basic. On speaking to the only manager on site, who said he was not able to resolve the issue, if we paid our bill in full he would pass our comments on. Whilst I was happy to pay, it was not going to be the full rate. He said he had no authority to discount our rooms and I contacted a lovely lady called Helen at Best Western head office who offered to speak to the hotel on our behalf. She said facilities offered were what each hotel had given them details of. She duly contact the Hotel. We did receive a discount on one of the rooms as compensation. I was told that nobody had brought up these items missing before. If you book a room and are offered certain facilities and extras they should be available when you arrive.

"Service above and beyond"

5
29/08/2016

I was staying at the Crewe Arms Hotel as I had an early train to catch in the morning from the station opposite. Whilst booking in I realised that breakfast service wouldn't start early enough for me to be able to eat and still have time to catch my train. The receptionist, Amy, contacted the kitchen staff on my behalf and arranged for them to serve my breakfast at 7.30am instead of 8am (including the hot items). By the time she had managed to arange this I had left the hotel for a while and so she rang me on my mobile to let me know that special arrangements had been made. I regard this as service above and beyond what I would normally expect (and I have stayed in a lot of hotels over the years!) The food was excellent with a good choice and tasty sausages. My room was also of good size, clean and well equiped. All in all, I was very happy with my stay, and would recommend this hotel to others (just ask for a quiet room otherwise you could be overlooking the railway).

26/08/2016

We stayed here for two nights recently. This is a typical, old, railway station hotel. A few creaky floorboards add to the character. It was clean and tidy, staff were very friendly ( big mention to Adam and Rhys for their help, nothing too much trouble), and breakfast ( the only meal we had) was nice. Very good value for money and we would certainly stay again.

Just got back from here on Tuesday (we stayed 3 nights while visiting family), this is our second stay here this year. What can I say the staff were as always lovely, the room clean & tidy (had a bigger room this time - I wonder if I can request it next time we come?). There's really not much I can say that I haven't said in previous reviews, we've stayed in a few places in Crewe but mostly prefer the Crewe Arms, we can honestly say we have NEVER had any problems here or a bad stay. So thanks everyone :)

We visited here prior to attending a football match, the bar was closed due to the match but they kindly opened the restaurant. We had the three course option for under a tenner. "Good but bit old"

21/08/2016

Just to summarize pros and cons of this stay: Pros: - very clean - friendly stuff - very good proper English breakfast - enough car park space just outside hotel - good location (about 1.5km away from big shopping center, opposite side of the road from train station) Cons: - bit old - elevator does not go to the floor but higher so the luggage and buggie need to be carried few steps down to get your floor - room not very spacious (just enough to stick in travel cot for baby) - no kids club

"Convenient location"

4
21/08/2016

Stayed here as we needed a convenient stopover between Manchester and Birmingham. The rate was good and they had availability. Room was a good size, with a shower over the bath. Despite being on a main road close the railway, we weren't disturbed by any noise from the road. Decor was somewhere between traditional and dated, but good for the price. Breakfast consisted of a good selection of buffet English Breakfast, cereals and fruit. Staff were attentive. Would stay again. All in all, good value, convenient location and staff were very friendly and polite.

14/08/2016

We arrived here at 1:40pm service with a smile checked in was quick, our room was ready but we wanted to have lunch before we went to Betley concert, Adam was very welcoming and took us to our table, dinner was finishing at 2pm but the a staff was happy to take out order at 1:50pm. We both ordered the fish & chips. What a lovely size portion we had, fish was beautiful and there was plenty of chips.. Really enjoyed our dinner.. Adam very kindly pre ordered our taxi to Betley which we was going to for the night. The room we had 234 was lovely twin bedroom, over looking the railway but that wasn't a problem we very rarely heard the trains certainly wasn't noisy. Plenty of tea/coffee facilities.. Bathroom was lovely size. There must've been a leak in the bedroom once as the walls had what looked like a leak stain on the walls not sure? Will add a picture but that was a little niggle of the room.. Our pre booked taxi arrived on time and we was out our destination in 15mins. Taxi to Betley was £15.. On returning from our venue we arrived at 10:40 I asked Dan at reception for some more teas & milk which wasn't a problem.. Trains were still running which we couldn't hear, getting off to sleep wasn't a problem.. Breakfast in the morning was a hot buffet and cold buffet plenty for everyone. Checking out was quick again by Dan.. Would highly recommend this hotel.

"Good location and comfortable"

03/08/2016

We stayed here for 4 nights. We were upgraded to a suite so it was nice. Breakfast was decent as there were hot and cold options. This is an old building where the floor cranks if somebody walks but all in all a good hotel with the bus stop right outside the hotel. There was car parking too which we did not use. Tesco express is 2 minutes walk which comes in very handy. The only thing is that there should be some glasses in the room (they provided only 2 plastic glasses for 4 nights). Also, at least one water bottle should be provided everyday. All in all a good stay.

"Short stay break"

02/08/2016

Booked this hotel through Superbreak for a 2 night stay. On arrival it transpired the hotel had not received any detail from Superbreak. The staff at the hotel worked wonders and made sure we had a room for the 2 nights, what a relief. The room was excellent. Tea and coffee facilities provided. The down side was that we like to have a window open for fresh air and the railway is very close by and yes you guessed, we got some noise in the early hours but the comfort of the bed made up for this. The breakfast was excellent and chef did vegetarian sausages for one of us. We had an excellent evening meal on the second night, I can recommend the vegetable curry. Overall a good stay. Used the train nearby to go into Chester, regular trains run.

We stayed here on Saturday 23 July. The location of the hotel is near a busy roundabout near the railway station. The hotel has creaking floorboards .This hotel has a lot of history but the staff are not educated to answers questions like was the fireplace in reception original. We had to wait a while for the women to come to the reception desk and there was no service with a smile. It was very hot in our room and when we asked for a fan we were told there were none . When we were checking out there was no one on the reception desk but it said ring the bell for service well there was no bell and my husband had to ask one of the breakfast staff . The women who checked us in also checked us out and there was no how was your stay or dId you enjoy your stay.

01/08/2016

The hotel is at a convenient location close to Crewe station. The service was friendly especially the staff at breakfast who offered to go to Tesco next door to get natural yoghurt for me. Breakfast was okay but too greasy to my liking. The room fine but there was still a winter duvet on the bed so quite warm. All in all a good no fuss hotel and good value for money.

"Worst room I have ever stayed in"

1
30/07/2016

A very unprofessional hotel, seems to be run by eighteen year olds with the occasional older person, not impressed with the staff, attention at breakfast time was laughable. The worst thing was our room, I cannot believe that this hotel chain find it acceptable to have a floor when walking on it was so noisy that if one of the occupants get up in the night to use the bathroom then the other will definitely be woken. To add to this we had a fire door outside our room which is in continual use and bangs every time it is used, all it needs is a soft close fitted. The room (114) overlooks the platform to Crewe station and the noise is impossible to deal with. From 5.30am there are announcements for different trains coming and going and the noise of the trains was unbearable. I will not consider another Best Western hotel ever again based on our experience in this woeful place and to say the decor needs updating is another story altogether, poor on every level.

Stayed here for a few nights in July, Room was nice, good facilities and Clean. The staff are very nice too, although they seem short staffed and they are constantly under pressure. Found the dinner in the bar to be ok. The breakfast though is not good. Food left on a hot plate that is not very hot at all. Seems to be there for ages. Second morning we went down stairs at 0830 everything had been taken away so we had to order, so at least it was fresh and hot. Management, Please do something with the breakfast arrangements....

24/07/2016

Stayed one night dinner bed and breakfast as part of a coach group. Reception was effecient and friendly. Double room was small though big enough, clean and well equipped, including an electric fan. Television was too low to view from bed, and only one chair for two people, though this seems to be the norm. Bed was high and comfortable, but too soft for me. Nice bathroom, nice towels and toiletries. Shower was over the bath, and was tricky to use at first. Plenty of hot water. Dinner, apart from first course, was buffet style, served in a very nice "private" dining room.Excellent, friendly waiting staff both at dinner and breakfast. Meal was nice, but nothing spectacular-as was the breakfast-but there was plenty of food, and anyone who came away hungry had only themselves to blame. Public rooms are very modern, and not particularly welcoming (the rooms, not the staff). Overall, a pleasant stay.

22/07/2016

The best thing about this hotel is how close it is to the train station. I stayed one night as it was convenient for me to catch the train in the morning. The hotel is not particularly nice. It was the hottest day of the year and there is no air conditioning, but at least there was a fan in the room that I had to keep on all night. There is a kettle but no water int he room. The food was not good at all. I had the steak pie which was a huge dish of frozen vegetables, greasy chips and lots and lots of gravy. So I didn't eat much of it and I ended up walking to a petrol station close by that has a Tesco to buy some nibbles. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Overall this is just a convenient place to sleep, but

I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at this hotel. The staff were so friendly right from the start and stayed that way right to the end. The location was good (a little noise from the trains). The room was pf a good size and very clean. I had the basic sky package and free wi-fi. Breakfast was good and plenty of gluten free options. The evening meal was good value for money.

"Somewhere to avoid"

We go here usually when other places are booked. Let me start by saying the people here work damn hard under ridiculous circumstances. The hotel is a grand building that deserves better management. I came down for breakfast in the restaurant to find the air conditioning on the hottest day of the year was left off. The refrigerated plate to keep fruit cool turned off the butter therefore was more like a packet of oil. The bread stale and stuff. The eggs looked like they'd been there for over an hour heaven for bid they should cook fresh ones. My colleague had to wait 20 mins because he'd forgot the order for poached. We stupidly held our morning meeting there and when we asked for iced water no ice because sportingly the machine had broken. Then a full glass of ice water was taken to a manager doing some bookwork next to us. Being a little put out I asked for ice water to be told the machine had broken yet the person over there ..... Oh yes he'd ordered it. Please lousy service go us the customers however if your a manager no worries. So lousy breakfast lousy equipment. Mr western this is certainly no where near your best. It's a great location a great building and hard working staff but with management who seem more inclined to save money than to offer service. Stay away please stay well away

Checked in last night, receptionist wasn't rude but hardly helpful. So when I decided that I wanted something to eat at 9.20pm I was told they had stopped doing food at 8.30. What kind of hotel stops doing food that early? Off to Mc Donalds then, as there's not much else about. Interestingly I'd only seen 4 other people eating here, presumably from a different menu from that on the website, as it's out of date. The room was ok, if dated but overlooked the road. Being a bit stuffy I had the windows open so noise was a bit of an issue until the local Chavs got bored of tearing up and down the road at least. Not a game changer though. So to breakfast. Waited 5 mins to be seated, then had to go and find the waitress 5 mins later as I had been left to my own devices. Didn't fancy the disgusting looking 'buffet', greasy eggs and hash browns like I'd never witnessed before, limp and sloppy. Just how do you do THAT?! So I ask for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Well, 3 mins later I'm told they have no salmon (I could have run across the road to Tesco and bought them some, but it's not down to me to do the obvious). I also asked for a ham and mustard sandwich to take to work with me. Ten minutes later I'm told they have no ham. Come on, there's a shop across the road - if they can't offer what's on the menu why not pop across and get some? Anyway, I ask for poached eggs on toast. It arrives. Eggs are overdone and the salt shaker dumps the contents of the Boniville salt flats onto it. So in short? This hotel fails on customer service and from my limited and hopefully final experience, food quality.

We've used The Crewe Arms Hotel for meetings as it's a great location just across the road from the train station and with very easy access to the M6. Room hire is at reasonable price with catering facilities laid on. All meeting rooms are of good size. Can't fault the place really. Will be back! ??

Today a group of 15 of us attended the hotel for an AGM and lunch. Unlike my friends , having never visited the hotel before I wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The meeting room facilities were spacious and adequate for our requirements with ample coffee, tea and biscuits provided.. The hotel was clean and tidy and the staff very attentive and polite. We had a buffet lunch consisting of a choice of meat pie, chicken in white wine sauce , veg , rice or chips , salad and for desert a. choice of cheesecake or crumble. All choices were lovely and clearly freshly cooked. The waiting on staff were wonderful and provided us with a fabulous service. Thank you to all for making it a lovely day.

"Great Customer Service"

Check in was excellent with plenty of information and an offer to help with bags etc. Unfortunately the room we had been allocated originally was not as per our booking confirmation however the lady on reception went out of her way to make sure she could do as much as possible to put things right. Once this was sorted out we had a very good stay, The room was clean and bright with a modern bathroom. Shower not the most powerful we have had but worked fine. We didn't experience much noise even with the windows slightly open. Breakfast was buffet style which worked really well. Location is about a 20 min walk to the centre of Crewe right opposite the train station. Parking no problem just had to give our car details in at reception. Great customer service a credit to Best Western.

This hotel is an old style hotel with creaky floorboards and old character. Food is ample. Not much of a menu but all hotels seem to be going down this route. Not much of a view from rooms that are clean and tidy. Usual tea and coffee plus TV in each room.

"An imposing building, but less so through the threshold"

20/06/2016

The Crewe Arms Hotel is a Best Western, on a roundabout almost exactly opposite the well known huge Crewe Station, both inexplicably about one mile from Crewe town. The hotel is an enormous Victorian-looking pile and it took us a while wandering around the equally huge hotel car park to find the entrance door. We then found the bar, where we were the only customers. Indeed, all the time we were there we only saw one other couple who we suspected had only come in to use the lavatories. Oh, and we saw the bar person who trebled as greeter and receptionist. It was as cold as Siberia in there and I mean the temperature and not the atmosphere. We had a nice enough couple of bottles of wine, but thought we would give the menu a miss. Where the owners of the mass of cars parked in the hotel grounds were remained a mystery.

16/06/2016

The venue hosted our AGM. Beforehand there was good communication with the events team when making the arrangements, and they were proactive and innovative in finding solutions to our particular requirements. My experience on the day was that there was good attention to detail and the staff were efficient and responsive when required, with the conference room being clean and well prepared, A special mention is made for Rachel for her support on the organisation of the event, and to Amy for her front of house management of the arrangements on the day.

"Someone silence that Train Tanoy"

11/06/2016

Stayed here for one night to get a good night sleep before visiting Reaseheath College the next day. Can't fault the hotel itself. Lovely big twin room (Room 102), clean and tidy, friendly staff, lovely full English breakfast the next morning but OMG that bloody train Tanoy!!! Bing bong Bing Bong till about 12.30am and then it started again at 5.30am (& I had earplugs in) the windows do absolutely nothing to silence and reduce the noise. I actually checked the windows 3 times because I thought they were somehow open. I know the train station is not the hotels fault but they really need to do something about reducing the amount of noise you can hear from the train station. If you do stay here ask for a room away from the train side. Also would have been nice to have a curtain or blind on the bathroom window. The shower is right next to the window, my daughter had to have a shower in the dark otherwise all the people on the platform would have had an interesting view whilst waiting for their train. Sorry but i definitely will not be staying at this hotel again and due to our complete lack of sleep I personally would not recommend staying here unless you are a very heavy sleeper and can sleep through anything

"It may look old and unfashionable - but try it. I like it."

09/06/2016

I chose this hotel because of location, and known facilities (Best Western, three ***). On the down side some rooms can be noisy - being alongside a busy road and railway. But it's location in the middle of Crewe, and with parking, is a plus. Restaurant menu is not very adventurous but perfectly acceptable. And bar has limited choice. I've stayed there before and probably will again.

The hotel was very clean and tidy, room was good with two king size beds, bath room was very clean and tidy. But. A few issues with only one towel for three, when asked this was quickly rectified, run out of toilet paper, only two tea bags for three, forgot to wash one of the mugs up. so a few tweets and it would have been great.

"Hard to sum up - Ok probably does the job"

02/06/2016

It's just average. Room clean & tidy if a bit outdated. Lacks any sort of interesting period touches & at the same time does not reflect what you would expect in a 'corporate chain'. The public areas downstairs are spacious but some what devoid of furniture - it resembles some sort of departure lounge. The bar is small with a limited selection, while the (empty) restaurant (probably due to their pricing) is large & was laid out nicely. I did not think the room only price was a bargain - though I might have got a bad deal. This said the place was almost empty. I booked purely for the closeness to Crewe Station. I stayed one night because I was going to The Lyceum Theatre (wonderfull building). Have no idea how you spend any time longer than one day as (sorry Crewe) I could not find anything else of interest to do. Have a gripe with the outdoor smoking area. The sand buckets were full & fag buts everywhere. I know it is probably a Health & Safety issue for a staff member to deal with this. If this is the case ban smoking on the premises completely.

All staff are friendly and helpful and always try their best to help. Good value for money and really convenient for Crewe train station across the road! Food is good value. Rooms are somewhat tired and could do with a little TLC and there is road noise which is made worse when the temperature is high and the windows open.

This is an old and formally grand building that in places still retains some character. ?It has large open spaces and feels spacious. I really don't know what to make of some of the décor; it is a mix of different ages and styles that don't always complement each other. Some of it is akin to a stately home, some of it is like a seaside holiday bar. For me there are basic hotel requirements: safe, clean, comfortable, quiet and stable (unless you're on a boat). Anything else is a bonus. ?The BW Crewe Arms is safe and clean. Bordered on 2 sides by busy roads and on 1 ?1/2 sides by the railway this is never going to be a tranquil retreat. Crewe is an old railway town and if you get a room away from the main roads you are able to witness first-hand the increased intensity of rail services that recent investment has provided. Turns out that trains seem to operate late into night. My ear plugs did a good job of muting the antics of Thomas and Friends, but they weren't much use against the rather disconcerting room shaking that accompanies some of the passing rolling stock. It's like having a random 10p a go vibro bed (apparently). There was no double glazing to help reduce the obvious noise. This seems to be a hot hotel that heats up during the night. So you get a choice; open a window for more noise and a breeze, or keep the window closed for less noise and a slow cook. In the common areas a cooling flow of air is achieved by propping open the rear doors and the internal fire-doors. ?Food dinner: heavy and maybe a bit unimaginative. Tasted and presented OK apart from the chips. These chips were worse than from the Mayflower seaside take away in Leigh-on-Sea, which I hate to say this makes them the worst ever. It appears that the spuds were soaked in oil, briefly warmed up and left for a few days to go soggy. I didn't eat them. Yuck. Food breakfast: not quiet average. I had to go wondering to find staff, with one notable exception, they didn't seem too interested in what was going on. I managed to get a mildly warm boil in the bag kipper, the breakfast room was much hotter than the food. I think the fish warmed up as it sat on my table, maybe I should have left it for a while. My room was big and nice enough, I liked it a lot. I ordered a newspaper, they didn't. So I took the free one; that saved me £1.

"Great hotel and value for money"

I can actually say that although the town isn't all that great, my actual stay at the Crewe arms hotel would have to be one of my favourite hotels that I've ever been to. My room 224 which was around the back of the hotel had a great view of the railway as well as the carpark! Got lost trying to find my room the first time, but the receptionist soon pointed me in the right direction. Not sure about the other parts of the hotel but where I was, it was really quiet at night. Sometimes could hear the odd train go though but with the window closed, you hardly hear anything. But as for the bed, that was so comfy! Breakfast was very basic. But for me cereal, yogurt and a glass of orange is enough for me. A couple of things to mention about my room which there was a huge stain on the wall, next to the window, and the window itself had condensation on the inside. Also, the last evening at the hotel, there was a problem with the toilet where it wouldn't flush and had no cold water from the basin, I mentioned this to the receptionist and said someone was going to deal, but that never happened. Mentioned it again to one of the room cleaners and she put this down on paper. I heard one of the other rooms had the same problem too. If I decide to return to Crewe again in the future, I shall return to this hotel despite the problems at the end

03/05/2016

Kind of thought after the last time we had a meeting here it couldn't get any worse, it was bad then, it was worse this time. Whilst the building is impressive and access to Crewe station is almost opposite, and that's why you get 2* - that's about all it has going for it. Bar/waiting staff as drab as a wet weekend at a Butlins camp, absolutely no welcome nor greeting, made to feel we were a burden - for goodness sake liven up. We ordered a chicken salad, 2 pasta dishes and toad in the hole.. Chicken salad arrives after 30 minutes, then we waited 15 minutes for next 2 dishes to arrive and 1 was completely forgotten about and had to be re-ordered. To top it off, we asked for 2 Soda Waters and lime and were served 2 pints of cider and lime, would you not question such a concoction ? When we asked them to be changed, they were left on the bar for 10 mins until a dithery barman toddled through and corrected his error. It would end in divorce if you took you partner here for a romantic meal, dreadfully sorry if the truth hurts, but I give praise where it's due, sadly in this case you don't deserve any praise for the food or food service offered.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear sir, I am most surprised by your quite personal and hurtful comments about my staff. I have a fantastic team here at the hotel who are consistently praised for their excellent customer care. Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Rip off parking"

1
29/04/2016

I had a coffee and light bite at The Crewe Arms whilst waiting for my husband to pick me up after work. He pulled into the car park, never left the car and was there for exactly12 minutes while he waited for me to finish up and then we left. Guess what? We received a parking ticket for £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days. I appealed but they only want to make money so of course I've had to pay the fine. The staff are friendly and it's looking a lot better after the refurb but I won't be going back.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear 8jillyt, We do not have 'Rip Off' parking as you state. Guests using the hotel are asked to register their vehicles at reception so that they can enjoy free parking. People using the hotel car park as a train station pick up and drop off area will get fines if they do not pay to park. All you need to do is ring me, tell me what you had to eat and drink and I can then check up on the bar computer, once verified the ticket could then be revoked. The system is in place so that genuine guests can park. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Reasonably comfortable"

4
22/04/2016

Be careful when you book a room here. You will be told that there is no noise from the train station opposite.... Wrong!!! If you have a room at the front you can hear all the announcements even tho the hotel is supposed to be double glazed!! The lobby, restaurant and bar are very sparse and have a cold atmosphere however the rooms are very pleasant, the beds are incredibly comfortable, I had six really good nights sleep ( I must find out what make the mattresses are!!) and the staff are very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble especially from reception and the bar. Other than making sure you don't book a room at the front I would definately recommend this hotel providing they check their car park for unwanted visitors...... I think they will know what I mean!!!!

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Many thanks for the great review. As the world's oldest railway hotel we obviously do from time to time get some noise from the station, this is however minimal during the night. The beds are all new and were purchased from a company called Restful Nights in Liverpool. Glad all the team were accommodating and polite. We do hope that you will visit us again soon Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

When I got to the best western on Friday at 11PM I had room 102 with 2 other girls who I knew. We got there and there was a sofa bed and I felt sore underneath. Anyway at night you could hear the tannoy of the train station.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Many thanks for taking the time to review the hotel. The sofa bed in Room 102 is new so I will take a good look at this as you should have had a comfortable night's sleep. The tannoy announcements do not run through the night so I'm not sure what you heard, it could have been people passing the hotel. I do hope that you will stay with us again in the future. Stayed here for a night on a weekend away and found the room very comfortable, had a really good night's sleep. It was quiet (we were a bit worried it wouldn't be as it's next to the station)! Difficult to get the shower temperature right though. The staff were really welcoming and friendly and the food was absolutely delicious and nice choice of menu. Good bottle of wine was very inexpensive compared to London prices!

"Sunday Lunch"

4
11/04/2016

We used to be regular Sunday lunchers a few years ago when the hotel was family owned. Subsequent changers of ownership and an apparent lack of care for the building meant we ceased our visits - parts of the hotel were in desperate need of a refurbishment and the food had become somewhat indifferent. Last year we decided, following the acquisition by Best Western, to try the Christmas lunches. Excellent. The décor is much improved and the restaurant provides a first class experience. We have now resumed our Sunday lunch visits. The menu is varied and reasonably extensive - yesterday (10 April) there were 5 starters, 6 mains plus a vegetarian option and 4 desserts. Food is no-frills but well prepared and presented - if you want Heston Blumenthal forget it. Staff are friendly and attentive. As we knew we would be arriving towards the end of the service we decided to pre-order. Sunday menus are available late morning. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable meal at a very reasonable price with the added bonus of no preparation, no cooking and no cleaning up afterwards. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel restaurant

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear David, Thank you ever so much for the great review. We are all so pleased that you enjoyed your Sunday Lunch and do hope that once again you will become a regular visitor. "Faulty towers but still enjoyed our stay"

05/04/2016

Room 224, first impressions were ok, furniture needed a good was down especially behind the tv. Bed over comfortable, bathroom clean but then we found water seeping up around the floor tiles. Tv didn't get a signal. Window had about 1" of water on the inside of the double glazing and a bad damp patch down wall. No outside bettering on that stretch, hence the damp. Moved to 228. Again very nice but could also do with a wash down on drawers and wardrobe. This time the tv remote wouldn't work neither would the kettle. These were changed for us by a very charming young man. No light bulb in one of over the bed lights. Milk off in the morning but again sorted by a very nice receptionist. Meal the night before was very good. Could do with a good clean up outside as no ashtray in smoking shelter, empty bottles strewn down steps from bridge, smokers congregating outside main door as shelter has no top if it rains. But somehow we still liked the hotel and would probably stay again.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Maureen, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the issue you encountered, steps will be taken to address all of these. "British Rail Reunion, Friday 11th March 2016"

5
30/03/2016

British Rail Computing held their 8th Reunion at the Hotel. The location is across the road from the Railway Station and so is ideal for visitors arriving by train. Once again, a special thank you must go to Rachael and all the staff for being so kind and attentive throughout the day. One cannot fault or criticise in any way the efforts that were made to make our event once again a great success. The 3-course lunch with two choices for each course was again beautifully prepared, very enjoyable home-cooked food at a very fair price. I think the high quality and consistency maintained since 2012 speaks for itself as the numbers for lunches have steadily increased over that period. Regarding the recently refurbishment of the Hotel, whilst this has been welcomed in some respects, unfortunately, the general consensus of opinion is that the lounge/bar area looks somewhat unfinished. With stark painted walls, no carpet and curtains, the area is featureless, noisy and unpleasant – that warm, cosy and intimate atmosphere with comfortable furnishings has, sadly, been lost. This is in stark contrast to the now beautifully refurbished Restaurant and Albert Room which has that warmth and appeal completely in character with a beautiful Victorian building.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Susan, Many thanks for the wonderful review. We are all delighted that you all enjoyed your recent lunch with us. The bar is indeed a work in progress and we have made a number of changes since your last visit, more leather chesterfield and a different eating area. We intend to continue to look at this area and improve. Thank you once again for all your comments and we do hope to welcome you back again soon. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Lovely hotel to stay in"

5
20/03/2016

I have started staying at this hotel semi-regularly for business as I have a client nearby. It is an ancient railway hotel which has been recently refurbished, so you have the best of both worlds. I especially like that every room is different. Wifi, beds, fittings, etc. are all good. The food is not as fancy as at some places but fancy food has its horrors too. The wine list is better than I might have expected. This is a station hotel, and Crewe is a big station, so some of the rooms have train noise. I have found the rooms at the back of the hotel to be perfectly quiet. I shall be staying here a lot more (I hope) this year and beyond.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Ivan, Thanks ever so much for the great review. We are delighted that you will staying with us on a regular basis in the future. Please let us know if you have any requests, whether it be a particular room or food choice and we will do our utmost to ensure that we can deliver this for you. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

This place is right next to the station so really handy if you are waiting for a train, food and service could be better but it has been refurbished since my last visit so it is actually better than what it was. Coffee was ok!

"Very Noisy"

1
16/03/2016

I was trying to sleep before I decided to write this review. My room (105) is at the front of the hotel and the noise from the road is beyond reasonable. The sash window does not close properly and there is no secondary glazing, to top it off the radiator is missing its thermostat and cannot be switched off. Spoke to reception to ask if I could change room due to noise , response was only spare room was next door and the noise can't be helped as they are next to the train station. The noise issue was not the trains but the road. Food in the restaurant was ok but to assume customers would be happy sharing vegetable and chips on the same table I think is a bit presumptuous, I am here on business not with family. Our company regularly use Best Western Hotels but I certainly won't be recommending this one.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Please accept my sincere apologies that you did not enjoy your recent stay with us. We will look into all of your comments and makes the changes as required. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Cozy, friendly, clean, but not the best food"

3
14/03/2016

Very close to the station, walking distance from the town centre (about 20 minutes), this hotel was conveniant for my business trip to Crewe. The receptionists were friendly and helpful; the rooms / bathroom were clean and modernised, we had TV, Wifi, basic tea/coffee facilities. However, it was rather too hot, and apparently not possible to turn off the central heating, even though this was June last year, and not cold. I don't recommend the dining room. The menu sounded good, and it wasn't cheap, so I expected a good evening meal. However, it was disappointing; I found it somewhat inedible. Breakfast was adequate (at best). Packet cereals, long life soggy croissants, very little variety, but the coffee was good quality, and fresh.

Hi, I am sorry but I feel unable to respond constructively to your review. It was posted yesterday but relates to a stay in June of last year, some 9 months ago. I'm glad you appear to have liked most aspects of your stay however I simply cannot comment on a meal that happened so long ago. Had you brought this to our attention on the day we would have happily replaced it or offered a refund. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Check Out - not to return"

This is a hotel I will not use again. I had to be given 3 different rooms before I found one which accepted. The first was noisy from waht sounded like external ventilation fan. The volume on the TV was not controlable but was SKY. Room 2 did not have SKY and the TV would not turn on. Room 3 did not have SKY but at least it worked. The lighting over the work surface/Desk was non existant. i dined in the bar. My soup was very salty. The sweet was very good but the menu was mundane.

There were about 26 of us for a family lunch the service seemed disorganised and there wasn't enough food. I had melon ( it was a small portion ) but nice , my main was pork there were 2 rather small pieces with about a tablespoon ( if that ) of gravy. There weren't a lot of veg at all and there weren't really enough roast potatoes to go round the only good thing was dessert. That was nice. But , even so , my small appetite wasn't satisfied. It was lovely spending time with the family but I wouldn't return.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Lynda B, Please accept my sincerest apologies that you did not feel we served sufficient food at your recent event. This is the first time we have ever had a complaint of this nature. I have spoken to the Chef's and restaurant staff and we will ensure that All parties are asked if they have sufficient food. We do hope that you will visit us again soon, when we are sure you will be more than happy with the service and quantity of food provided. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

We went on a family get together for a meal, the company was the best part. The food was poor and we came away hungry after a three course meal. The staff were disorganised, food portions were poor, more like rations and the drink prices were high. For a glass of Rose and a pint of San Miguel was a tenner. First visit there and we will not be returning in a hurry, thank God we did not arrange our wedding for this place.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Please accept my apologies that on this occasion you were unhappy with your event. I have spoken to the staff concerned and no issues were raised on the day. I do hope that this one occasion does not deter you from visiting us again. Should you wish to dine in the future please contact me personally. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Odd, very odd"

Oh, I wish I liked this hotel more but I have to say I wouldn't really hurry back because it's one of those places that doesn't know whether it's Arthur or Martha. Is it an old fashioned station hotel or is it ultra modern budget accommodation? I don't know, and I don't expect anyone else does either. Well, you never know what you're getting with a Best Western. It's always an adventure! The first adventurous thing you are faced with in the lobby is the most marvellous 19th century marble fireplace about 8ft high and 12 ft wide. It is a thing of splendour, and it sits defiantly against the grey, featureless wall as a sad reminder of better times long gone. As for the rest of the building, there's nothing about the place that demolition wouldn't improve no end. They've tried to gussy the place up and, as mentioned, the walls are very grey. Yes siree bob, those walls are grey. It's a modern, uber cool kind of grey, plus a darker grey thing going on with the woodwork. They're kind of greys you might expect in the lobby of a PR firm staffed by 26 year old hipsters. And the chairs in the bar are bright radiant plastics in various jolly colours. Perhaps the interior designer was be-gloomed by the greyness thing and thought some primary style colours in the corner might cheer the place up. They don't. Searching for my bedroom was interesting. I met my colleague in her room for a drink, and then couldn't find my room afterwards. And no, it wasn't the gin. The corridors don't link up at all and I kept finding myself at the end of cul-de-sacs. There's absolutely no sense to the building nor to the way the rooms are numbered. My room was eventually discovered by taking the lift to the first floor, going through a double doorway, down three steps, through another doorway, along a corridor with a few turns in it and then up two flights of stairs. Oh, and it's very nippy. They could do with whacking the heating up. The rooms - when you get there - are serviceable in a travelodge kind of way. The breakfast is serviceable. You know, if only this gaff had been £50 smackeroos per person per night, I'd have given it a better review. But it cost considerably more than that and as such, I'd expect a much warmer hotel and a much warmer welcome.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear MissDillie, Thank you for your review. The hotel is, I agree, a mix of old and new, and gladly the majority of guests like it. We are the World's oldest railway hotel and as such we have many more features than most 'budget brands'. We do not have uniform corridors, with rooms running from 1 - 100 in an orderly fashion. What we have is character, an mix of styles, quirky corridors and a unique property. We are sorry that we weren't for you. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

We attended a social evening, meal and a speaker. Not good. Food was below par, room was OK (ish) parking was AWFUL. We all got tickets and fines even though we had registered! (the fines were subsequently quashed but it took a while) The best thing about the Crewe Arms is that its close to the station. So close you can hear (and feel) the trains pass. Wont be going back

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Steve E787 - we are not sure which event you attended as we have not had an evening event with a speaker for many months. Perhaps you would be kind enough to contact me directly to discuss. Obviously, if you can let me have the name and date of the event I will look into the matters raised immediately. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"No sleep!"

24/02/2016

Thought I would write a review as it appears I will not be getting much sleep tonight. There are very bright flood lights in the car park that point towards the building to illuminate it. They are very bright indeed. Unfortunately the curtains do not fit the window properly and a considerable amount of light it flooding around the edges of the curtains and flooding the room with light. Called reception and they said that there is nothing they can do as the light switch is locked in a managers office and they do not have a key. Looking forward to be refreshed for a busy day at work tomorrow. Thanks Best Western.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Please accept my sincere apologies that you sleep was interrupted during your recent stay with us. This issue has been addressed and will not occur in the future. Once again please accept me apologies. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Very friendly staff but failure to attend to guests needs"

20/02/2016

I have stopped several times in this hotel as it is very convenient for the station when I am visiting my family in the area. On my last visit I elected to pay extra and selected the 'superior double'. The room was spacious and clean enough (although on closer inspection dust could be found). One of the things I use in a room most often is the table - reading on an iPad, surfing the 'net or even undertaking a bit of work. In this room the table was served by an arm chair, which was too soft and too low for comfortable keyboard activities. I also found that the main light in the room didn't work - a blown bulb suspected. I reported both of these items (at slightly differing times) to reception. On requesting a 'proper' chair for working at the table, the lassie was very accommodating - certainly they would look into it. That was all they did, I suffered the same chair (sitting on pillows and cushions) for the duration of my 2 night stay. As I went out on the first night I reported the light (having identified this later than the chair scenario). A different receptionist was on duty and he advised he would check it out. On my return later, he advised he had checked and it was indeed the bulb - but he could not access the maintenance cupboard - he would get maintenance to sort the next day. I remained without a main light for the duration of my stay. The cooked breakfast is one of the main reasons for my stay as there is a far superior accommodation nearby, but it does not serve breakfast. The breakfast as normal was very good and despite my comments above I wil likley return to this hotel. One word of warning - my room (117) was immediately adjacent to the station platforms and I could hear every train and station announcement.

13/02/2016

Went for the valentine meal on Saturday with my partner. The menu was priced at £15.00 each for a three course meal. There was a good variety of meals to choose from,of which they were well above the normal boring choice from various venues around the area, and also cheaper. The food was lovely, well presented, cooked to perfection 100% value for money .The hotel has been totally refurbished throughout and looks good .The staff are very polite and efficient and can't do enough for you. It's a pity that there wasn't many people there on the night because this place deserves to be packed for the quality of food on offer. Make sure you go next valentines

Lovely staff always cheerful and helpful which makes such a difference to your stay. The room was lovely and clean and warm. The food was extremely good and the serving staff brilliant particularly Adam. Jodie On reception also deserves a mention on the way she dealt with the customer with such a cheerful manner and also the lady with surname Bickerton(sorry cannot remember your Christian name) who dealt with the booking in an extremely efficient cheerful manner with always a smile . I stayed here this weekend, the hotel has been re furbished to a high standard. Rooms are clean, tastefully decorated, beds are comfy, bathrooms spotless, warm and fluffy fresh towels. Breakfast was buffet, plenty of food to chose fruit, cereals, yogurt, bacon, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, ash Browns, toast, fruit juices, tea, coffee. Regularly replenished with freshly cooked food. The bar area is all new could probably do with a few more pictures and blinds or curtains would make it more cosy but could not fault the service.

A lovely building with a fairly basic hotel in it. The room was large, clean and well decorated. Beds very comfortable and a decent size. The hotel is adjacent to the railway station so there is a little noise but not overly so. If you want a one night stop in Crewe on a budget then you could do worse than here.

"sooo ANGRY at parking situation"

02/02/2016

me and a friend were in Crewe a few weeks ago and deciding where to go to eat, we saw the Best Western from the main road and he drove onto the carpark to check it out. he didn't even stop the engine, he just slowly cruised past the place and we decied not to go inside, and he left the carpark within minutes. we went somewhere else and thought nothing of it until today when a £100 parking fine came for him entering the carpark! he contacted the number on the fine/invoice and they say they are an independent security company and our situation (checking out the venue as a potential place to dine that afternoon) made no difference and he had to pay it or bailifs would come to the door with an order from a court to remove goods and property to the value of the fine. nothing he can do about it.. we are both SO angry.. how the heck are people supposed to check out the bar/restuarant without driving up to it to see it?! sooo fuming at this.I'll be telling everyone i know to never go anywhere neat this place. total ripoff scam, just making money out of people

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Nathan, It would not be possible to obtain a Parking ticket by simply driving on and off the hotel's car park. Perhaps you would be kind enough to let me have your vehicle details and a copy of your parking fine and I would be more than happy to investigate this and get back to you. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM .

We stayed here for 2 nights to meet with my sister as we were celebrating her 70th birthday. The staff were absolutely brilliant and very helpful, there was a group of us so we were able to be on the same floor. We were shown complete courtesy and professionalism throughout our stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff from the moment we walked through the door we were treated as valued customers and made to feel very welcome. We had a great stay, the breakfast was spot on, hot and plentiful, the only input I would put to the breakfast would be in regard to the sausages. But if thats all then thats nothing to be worrying about. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and will stay there again with no problem. The staff deserve recognition as they were complete professionals at all times but further they were nice people and easy to talk to.

Stayed here over the New year Hols whilst visiting family. Lovely visit as always, The staff are Great, always helpful, friendly and polite. The rooms are comfortable with good beds, the WiFi is excellent. We had dinner the first night and it was spot on, well good and plenty of it, the chef was lovely too. This is a great little old hotel and to be honest I get sick of seeing reviews from people doing it down because of noise/floodlighting as it is on a main road opposite the train stain, this is great for us as we only have to cross the road to grab out train, if you don't like the noise or the lights ask for a back room I'm sure the staff will do what they can for you. To the staff at the Crewe Arms - keep doing what your doing your all great and we will be back when we're next over to the UK.

"Old hotel that shows it"

2
03/12/2015

Bear in mind that this is quite an old hotel but with a central location. I was given Room 106 which faced the main road and train station. It was obviously an original room as it has sash windows with no double glazing so the noise from trains, traffic and people was high. The Windows also rattled in the wind and the hotel has a floodlight that penetrates the curtains. Coupled with a poor shower it was a bad room. Having requested a different room the one I was given was great apart from the fact that it still had someone's bag in it. The second alternative room was better with double glazing but no central heating. Portable heaters were provided though. The shower flow was still very poor The front desk was understaffed with people waiting to be served at the bar whilst people were checking in and also ordering room service. The same person seems to do all three things. I've no doubt that the manager will respond but my comments are facts. They are offered as a way of improving. All feedback is good feedback.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear sir, many thanks for your constructive feed back. We have looked at Room 106 and maintenance have adjusted the window so that it is far more secure. It is the original sash and as the front of the building is listed we can't replace them. It now fits much better and does cover some noise however it is still not as good as the double glazing. We have also looked at the water pressure and increased it slightly, on testing the showers does feel greatly improved. We do try and staff according to levels of business, so I do apologise if you had to wait. We will be looking closely at staffing levels and will increase where needed. Thank you once again for taking the time to review, feed back such as your enables us to offer a better product and service. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Christmas Lunch at the Crewe Arms 2015"

5
02/12/2015

As a pensioner group we held our Xmas lunch here this week with 67 people attending. This is the first time we have been there since the refurbishment and I was immediately impressed with the new layout and decor of the reception and lounge area. Thanks to the control system there was adequate room on the car park for everyone - very important for those with impaired mobility. The reception staff were very helpful in ensuring cars were registered with their system. Being close to Crewe railway system without such a system they were open to abuse and their own customers couldn't get parked. Being such a large group we fully occupied the dining room What impressed me most was the way the delivery of the meals was co-ordinated by table so that everyone had their food almost at the same time regardless of menu choice, The meals were served hot as were the excellent vegetables I love sprouts when they are cooked correctly - not overdone. With such a large number of customers to serve simultaneously they were using all avaible staff but it was pleasing to see how they all worked together as a team to deliver customer service. My own menu choice of field mushroom followed by poached salmon and Xmas pud was absolutely delicious, In my eleven years of involvement with this group this must rate amongst the best Xmas lunches we have had.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Many thanks for the fabulous review, the staff are delighted that you enjoyed the event so much. Your kind comments are much appreciated. Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year and we look forward to welcoming you back again next year. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"DISAPPOINTING CHRISTMAS MEAL"

3
01/12/2015

I ate here as part of a large group of pensioners out for a 3 course Christmas meal where the whole of the restaurant was booked for our group. First impressions were nicely laid out tables with a cracker for everyone although there was not much space to put drinks, etc as the tables were quite small. My first disappointment was that not everyone was given a bread roll as it was just served to the people who were having soup as their first course. I thought this was extremely mean seeing as every good quality restaurant I have had a 3 course Christmas meal at in the past has always provided bread rolls for all. People who had opted for Prawn cocktail got a round of bread and butter served with their starter and melba toast came with the pate but no bread was included in the mushroom starter that I had. However the worst part of the meal for me was the main course. Being vegetarian I had opted for the only choice of stuffed pepper which came with a butter and tomato sauce. I had asked our organiser if she could ask the hotel to provide a cheese sauce instead or if they couldn`t, would they bring the sauce separate as I dislike anything that looks and tastes like tomato sauce or soup. They did bring the sauce separately but when I tasted it, it was very much more tomato than butter so was forced to have a dry meal. Our table of 4 were kept waiting for several minutes for our vegetables to arrive and someone from our table had to ask one of the staff to bring them in the end as our other food was getting cold. The vegetables when they arrived were some sort of mashed up carrot mix and a bowl of sprouts. The sprouts were in a cheese sauce which would have been ideal for me as I would then not have to have a dry meal, but also amongst them were pieces of ham. I was absolutely disgusted that they had put the ham in the dish without making any consideration for vegetarians and I had to ask someone to bring me some sprouts separately. They did this but there was no cheese sauce with them. The stuffed pepper itself was nothing to get excited about, it was just a red pepper filled with cous cous, no bits of nuts or anything. 3 small mostly burnt roast potatoes accompanied each meal along with the said sprouts and carrot mash and there was only one person on our table that ate everything even though they were not entirely satisfied with the quality of the food. Someone came round towards the end of the meal to ask if everything was ok, and I replied that it wasn`t for me but there was nothing they could do about it now and as they didn`t try to put things right when I asked about bread rolls not being offered to everyone before the meal started, I didn`t see any point in there being a chance they would even be bothered to make amends for my disappointing meal. The only saving grace was the tiramisu I had for dessert, it was a generous portion and looked and tasted delicious. The drinks here are expensive but that was to be expected as it is supposed to be a good quality hotel and having lived in Crewe all my life, it has always had a reputation for being more expensive as it is noted for being a good hotel. One word of warning for anyone who comes here for a meal and is being dropped off by a friend or relative or even a taxi, they must give the registration number of the car they came in to reception or otherwise the driver will find himself being sent a fine in the post. Anyone parking here the rule is the same, but staff do usually ask when guests arrive to provide their registration number. This is actually the second time I have had a meal at this hotel since Best Western took over, the first time was Boxing day before it was refurbished and the main meals were buffet style so there was no problem about having food go cold while waiting for the veg to arrive. Its a pity the service was a bit more like it was then.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
I was most concerned when reading your review as I actually ran the lunch on 1.12.15. Firstly bread rolls are provided for guests having soup to start, with the prawn cocktail comes brown bread and butter and with the pate slices of toast. You told my restaurant supervisor that you were not happy about this, her reply was that should anyone request a bread roll then of course they would be available, you declined the offer. There was no waiting by any table as we completed each table by table so that all guests were served at the same time before we moved on and completed the next table. The sprouts are topped with a white wine, cream and garlic sauce that also contains fresh cranberries and lardons of smoked bacon. This recipe was introduced last year and proved very popular so we are using it again this year, of course plain sprouts are available and we brought these out for you. We do indeed ask guests to register their car registration detail at reception - if we did not have this system in place genuine guests would be unable to park. If ever there is a mistake concerning a genuine guest then the fine would be revoked. I am sorry that you did not enjoy your meal with us and that on this occasion we did not please you. After reading your comments I asked Rachael(Sales Manager) to contact the organiser, gladly she was delighted with the event, and has booked in again for next year. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

Having stayed at the Crewe Arms for a second time this weekend I would like to say that this hotel is excellent value for money. When we arrived the receptionist was lovely and very welcoming. We had requested a quiet room and she explained where our room was and that it should be quiet - which it was. Room was spotless and with an extremely comfortable bed. Bathroom was good with loads of hot water and powerful water pressure. We asked for an additional towel which was sent to our room - no problem. This hotel is excellent value for money and therefore our expectations were at the level of the room rate. I'm glad to say our expectations were exceeded. We will be back. And we are fussy!

When I arrived they didn't have my reservation but lucky I still had the reservation on my emails. Room was dated with broken facilities in the bathroom and a window which would not close properly! 16/11/2015

Upon arrival I was ‘served' by the receptionist who didn't fulfil her job title as a receptionist she had a very don't care attitude and was not helpful at all. After I guessed that the booking was done she gave me a slip of paper and a card key, didn't explain what the paper was for and neither told me my room number, until I asked and she told me it's on the paper slip. When my partner and I finally got into the room it seemed fine until I realised there was a hole in the floor which I banged my foot into and almost lost my balance. The hole was on the left hand side of the bed and was covered by carpet, I truly think this must breach some form of health and safety!! i also noticed that the shower was extremely cold even on its hottest setting, it was unbearable to stand in, my partner also thought the same as he's used to very warm showers, the shower at the hotel was lukewarm at best! The bed looked ok until we had to sleep in it, the mattress was not firm in the slightest and I am not a heavy person - it still seemed as though i was drowning in the mattress. I explained all these problems to the receptionist (a different lady this time) and inquired whether there was any complaints procedure, she claimed she would send a complaint on my behalf however did not have anything to say regarding my experience; she was not concerned at all from my complaint and made no attempts to rectify any problems only saying that I will still have to pay regardless of experience. Needless to say I will be spending any money on this selfish company again!

I am most surprised by your review as I have an excellent team of staff who consistently receive high praise. We do not disclose room numbers at reception as this is a BEST WESTERN standard, we do however hand the key and the key card directly to the guest. We did have a issue with hot water after a boiler had cut out however this was rectified within a couple of hours, so I do apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally should you wish to discuss the above further. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"A good hotel in a convenient location"

I use this hotel quite a lot, as it is a convenient location to catch up with people who are travelling to and from London. You can also pay to park there if using the station, as long as you remember to register you vehicle at reception. They are helpful and responsive when issues need to be resolved.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Many thanks for the lovely review. We are so pleased that you use the hotel frequently and look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Not value for the price"

13/11/2015

I stayed at this hotel couple of months ago. It used to cost me in the region of £30 per night without breakfast. Now I cant find at that rate for the last two months. The current rate for advanced bookings is in the region of £70 upwards. It is a bit costly for what the hotel offers. Some of the rooms were good sized, some of them average sized. Some of the rooms have window towards the train station which are noisy with the road traffic and train announcements. Make sure your room is quiet. The taps were a bit funny, they are not usual type. The water pressure was low. Rooms were neat.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Sir, We no longer offer a rate of £30.00 and have not done so since we underwent an extensive refurbishment programme. In excess a million pound was spent on the property and it is now a completely different hotel than before, the improvements have taken place throughout the whole hotel. We now offer a product at the top of the 3 star market and now charge accordingly. Please give us a try I am sure you will be impressed with all that has been done. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

As a hotel near a railway station I was dubious about going in but i was in for a wonerful surprise. Delightful clean and modern decor. Staff pleasant and food excellent. Both in quality, quantity and price. Will definitely use this gem again. Remember to register your car at reception for free car parking. Well done Crewe Arms!

"Hotel with character"

06/11/2015

Similarly to other reviews, I was a bit worried about this place - being right on top of the train station, but it wasn't too bad in the end. The hotel was easy to spot and get to. Parking wasn't a problem. When we checked in, it wasn't clear if breakfast was included in my booking, so I had to ask later on in the evening. The room itself was nice, but everything creaked (wardrobe, floorboards). Free WiFi was handy. In the bathroom, the shower wasn't quite powerful enough and there didn't seem to be enough soap in the dispensers. Everything else in the room was fine. The train noises and announcements weren't too bad. We had a good night's sleep and breakfast the next morning was good. Although, it's a nice hotel with lots of character, I'm not sure it was as good value for money as the other nearby big chain hotels.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Many thanks for taking the time to review the hotel. I am pleased that you enjoyed most aspects of your stay. I agree we do have the odd creaky floorboard, however we are the world's oldest railway hotel so this is to be expected. We hope that you will visit again soon. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Rip off parking charges in the "FREE" carpark"

1
05/11/2015

My wife parked in the hotel car park to go in to the hotel to pick up a Christmas Menu. She was in the car park for 10 minutes. A week later she received a "Parking Charge" from a private parking company "Parking Eye" of £100. This charge would be reduced to £60 if paid within 10 days. My wife contacted the hotel to explain the situation and the fact that she was actually in the hotel as a prospective customer. Over the past week we have had two different people from the hotel giving us two different stories, one telling us by phone that the matter had been dealt with, and another by email telling us that the issue can not be resolved and that the parking charge needs to be paid. Clearly the management at the hotel does not know what is happening with its staff and it's communication with customers. The whole situation is ludicrous and it begs the question of should the hotel be renamed as "Fawlty Towers". To avoid paying the higher charge, we have now paid the £60 fee. I would strongly recommend that people give this hotel a wide berth. There are other hotels very close to it which do indeed offer "free parking!

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear sir, We do provide free parking for genuine hotel guests. As the numerous signs inform you simply register your details at reception and parking is free. We have used Parking Eye for over 8 years, this is not a new scheme. The new owners have had a major clamp down on abuse of the car parking by people using it as a station pick up and drop off point. We are not the station car park and time and again genuine guests cannot park as we are full of cars dropping off and collecting from the station and who have no intention of using our wonderful facilities. If a mistake has been made we can always rectify this and can revoke any genuine mistakes. It is also possible for non residents to pay at the desk to use the car park. I do hope that this answer you questions and explains the situation fully. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

Stayed here for 1 night as everywhere else was fully booked, before hand was hoping for the usual typical premier inn as I'm used to it. I expected to be in for a bad night at Best Western as it was one of the few places with bookings... Seriously took me by surprise. Absolutely 5 stars. Also, the staff are drop dead gorgeous! Will ask for here from now on if available.

"Lovely stay"

It was with some trepidation that I booked this hotel due to reading bad reviews and I have to say I was slightly dreading staying....I couldn't have been more surprised. Helpful, friendly staff from reception to housekeeping - everyone we came into contact with was a credit to the hotel, lovely size room,we requested a quiet room with cot and got exactly that. The room was SPOTLESSLY clean and a good size. I highly recommend booking this hotel. Breakfast had plenty of choice and Adam was a lovely attentive waiter. The hotel is right next door to the station and a main road but you can ask for a quiet room. As for squeeky floorboards and 'tired' looking - the hotel was built in the 1880s,you have to expect this but none of these things should warrant a bad review. Congratulations to The Crewe Arms on amazing staff and great value for money,we'll be staying again.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Thank you ever so much for the great review. The whole team are aware of your comments and are delighted that their hard work was very much noticed. We do hope that you will stay with us again when next in the area. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"A VERY GOOD SMALL HOTEL"

Stayed for one night on a weekend organised trip to Coronation street studios . It is hotel built in the victorian era and appears at first glance to be a little tired in apperance, hoever the staff are very efficent. we were a part of a couch load of some 50 people, but we were processed very efficenty and despatched to our rooms with the minimum of fuss. The room was clean and the plumbing worked , the eviening meal that was included in the price of the overnight stay was a choice between a very good shepards pie or a cavery, perfectably acceptable. The breakfast was a buffet which consisted of a english or a cointinental meal. Overall very pleasntly suprised with this hotel, would reccomend it to anyone who needs to stay in the Crewe area . ,

"Excelent Visit"

My home is only two miles from Hotel, i stayed for three nights bed and breakfast and the reason to welcome and be part of our group which takes place once a year in different locations and countries, Last year was Vienna and next year Copenhagen, but this experience was as good as anywhere and our Texas Instruments European ti994a group consisted of 20 people staying at the Hotel and i could not fault the service from Sales Manager Rachael Bickerton or the meals which included breakfast, lunch and Dinner, and especially the help and courtesy over the weekend from Food and Beverage Assistant Adam Bloor, both very professional and friendly. My Double room was ideal on the first floor facing onto main road, Coffee and tea and large TV in my room, bathroom was spot on, although i could not work the shower but was more at home with a bath anyway, I think what i liked about the best was the attention to detail of the staff, always on there toes for anything going astray, and the only downside was not able to work shower, wonderful weekend and would hope to go back again.

"Much better than last year!!"

14/10/2015

This hotel appears to have been refurbished since last year's stay as the bedroom was much better and more modern. Improvements have been made to the downstairs area as well and there is the introduction of a coffee shop. The only downside was the water supply in the bathroom as it was very low pressure and difficult to get a decent speed but then it is a historic hotel. Very convenient for the station.

Tracey M, General Manager at BEST WESTERN Crewe Arms Hotel, responded to this review
Dear Judie, Thank you for the great review. We are very pleased that you have enjoyed the many improvements that have been made during the last 12 months. We hope that you visit again soon. Kindest Regards Tracey Molyneaux GM

"Comfy weekend break"

We stayed on a 2 night b&b deal with an evening meal one night, what fantastic value. It's a lovely old building, ok it is on a busy road near the station but there was minimal noise at night and it certainly didn't disturb our sleep! The staff were all very polite and made us feel more than welcome. The room and bathroom were spotless and the bed was warm and very comfy. The evening meal was really well cooked and presented, I had whitebait, calamari and fili prawns for starter, the only complaint was that the lemon mayonnaise was missing and when I asked about it was given normal mayonnaise. My husband had baked Camembert for starters followed by steak while I had hunters chicken with 2 whole chicken breasts!! Breakfast both mornings was buffet style full English and continental. We only had the cooked which set us up for the day. We used the hotel as a base for exploring the area, and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

"Problem-free one night stay"

This hotel is an interesting Victorian building on a busy road opposite Crewe railway station, and turned out to be an excellent choice by our tour company for a group of 49, mostly pensioners. Not a large double room, but comfortable and clean. Hotel staff obliging and friendly, and it was not even too much trouble to organise a quiz for us in the evening. Dinner was a superb buffet, and roast pork carvery, set in a very attractive dining room, and catered for all tastes and appetites, with a varied and ample breakfast to follow. Room was quiet and peaceful, as we had the advantage of being at the back of the hotel away from the road, although I understand the road noise at the front was minimal, as the hotel is set back from the road. This was a most enjoyable stay, and ideal for our needs. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for individuals, couples or families.

£45 for bed & breakfast is hard to beat. Not the nicest hotel I've ever been in but it's clean & comfy. Free wifi, a nice bar area. Can't comment on the evening meals but breakfast was enjoyable. A bit of noise from road & rail travel but it didn't stop me getting a good nights sleep
