Nice hotel, very quiet. Good restaurant (brasserie) with typical French kitchen. Good choise of Alsacian wines. Friendly staff, clean everywhere. We parked the car in the (optional) closed garage under the hotel. The historic city-center is nearby and can easily be done walking.

"Hotel was closed, but they didn't contact us!"

anchmer, Denver, Colorado 23/06/2020

We were due to stay here for one night, after the borders of France had been reopened. It was booked with airline points and our reservation included all of our contact details, however we arrived to a closed hotel. When we rang, the staff member said that they tried to get in touch with us but couldn't (not sure why!), and that they notified our “agency”. The airline via the points also indicated that they hadn't heard about the closing, hence we had received confirmation emails. Luckily we were able to identify an alternate property and enjoy our night in Colmar, but the customer service from a global brand such as Best Western was a disappointment.

"Relaxing stay"

Grigs27, Vernon, France 24/02/2020

We much appreciated the helpful and friendly staff, the breakfast served until 10h30 and checkout at 12h. As everything in town seemed full for dinner on Saturday night we managed to get a late reservation at the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. We had the choucroute which was delicious and very filling. We had a superior room but the bathroom was rather small. Quiet rooms despite being opposite the station. We had a lovely stay and highly recommend.

"A short break"

michael p, England, United Kingdom 22/01/2020

An excellent hotel situated very close to the railway station and only a ten minute walk into Colmar centre. Breakfast was excellent, the room was warm and generally the hotel was very welcoming. An interesting feature was the internal door which was useful when there were some noisy children in the corridor (on one occasion only)

"Affordable hotel with good location"

onurakin76, Ankara, Turkey 19/01/2020

Its across the train station. You can also use the busses for going to the villages from the bus stops infront of the station. Breakfast is well enough. Decoration of the hotel is very nice. You can easily walk to city center in fifteen minutes.

"Missing Authenticity?"

User 12/12/2019

This is an old world hotel that's now missing "old world authenticity." I've stayed in this hotel many times and have enjoyed it in the past. Love the restaurant and the staff is very good. But this trip? We were put in the "new section" of the hotel...and the rooms reminded me of a room I would stay in while visiting Omaha, NE or Des Moines, IA. Lacking the old world charm I love about Colmar.

User 06/12/2019

Just checked in. We had reserved a parking spot but they didn't have a space for us. Went in only small elevator to our room. The room absolutely reeked of sewage smell. Went to reception to request a different room. They didn't have one. Could not confirm we would receive a refund for our 2 night stay. Receptionist called manager and a new room materialized. Reception lady brought us to it to inspect - 2 floors above original room and outside the door of the room - IT ALSO REEKED OF RAW SEWAGE!!!!!! Husband had to call corporate Best Western and in 4-5 days we have been told we will receive our refund. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER STAYING IN THIS DUMP.

"Little Venice"

Nice hotel closed to the railway station , but no problem of noise. Hospitality during check-in , check-out. Parking is available / under reservation. Nice restaurant for dinner / breakfast Clean room , a bit disappointed about bathroom quality = a bit old / rusty.

"Good location"

Carole H, Sandbach, United Kingdom 12/10/2019

Stayed a couple of nights, the room was a good size, clean and modern facilities in the bathroom. Paid for the car parking, which was under the hotel, well worth the extra payment. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Ate the first night in the hotel restaurant, we went armed with a phrase book as we didn't expect the restaurant staff to speak much english if any but we got the waitress that obviously didn't like the english!!! not helpful to us explaining the menu but very friendly with the french guests, food was ok. Breakfast had a good choice and staff were friendly and polite then the waitress from the night before appeared, still very off and busy helping herself to the pastries. Good location about 15 minute walk from centre.

"Great overnight stay en route to Switzerland"

Chris A, Cottingham, United Kingdom 18/09/2019

Stayed only 1 night as en route to Switzerland with Great Rail Holidays. Newly refurbished hotel I think, literally 20 yards from station entrance in beautiful central mainly pedestrian area. Immaculately clean, room double, new carpets, refurbished, large bathroom with bath & shower. Restaurant v.good. Staff polite. What more can I say. Price inclusive of holiday so can't comment. Lifts. 4 star I would say. 15 mins stroll max to beautiful Colmar old town, historic, need at least 1 day to see sights of historic old town, little sightseeing train (like at seaside) or small sightseeing boats on a small canal.

"Overnight stop on a Great Rail Journey trip"

Frank D, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom 16/09/2019

Very convenient for the railway station. Rooms more than adequate with good bathroom. Though shower area could do with grab handles for the elderly. No specific bar but asking the reception staff drinks can be brought to the lounge. Buffet breakfast good. Dinner was good and the restaurant was very full with locals enjoying a meal. Good level of English spoken. Large beer approximately 7 euros. Small glass of wine about €6. To walk to the old town (Little Venice) took approximately 20 minutes at a slow pace. Easy to follow streets there. Lots of lovely old buildings around a river with good selection of bars etc. Boat trips available.

"Great Hotel in a great area"

w0ayers, Virginia Beach, Virginia 01/09/2019

The Best Western Grad Hotel Bristol is an exceptional hotel for your trip to Colmar located across from the train station and walking distance to the city center. Great service and exceptional staff to ensure your stay is a memorable one.

"Functional and clean"

Jeff M, Paris, France 06/08/2019

Not the most exciting place to stay, but reasonable value for money. Reception was quick, efficient and friendly. Rooms a bit small but ok. Breakfast very good. The single lift is tiny, a bit problematic with lots of luggage. The outside terrace wouldn't serve us a drink as we weren't eating there, very bad service and no apologies there !! No parking available, so had to go to the public parking at the station. Otherwise a decent walk into town, but should have stayed in a more central hotel.

"Nice hotel"

EdithFW, Island of Malta, Malta 04/08/2019

The hotel is situated near the train station. It's 15 min walk from the center. The staff is very nice, the breakfast is excellent and the room was renovated very nicely. I recommend although not the best location.

"Decent hotel, close to train station"

Colin D, London 26/07/2019

My wide and I spent a night here, while driving from Italy to the UK. Despite the weather in the high 30's we spent a pleasant evening, enjoying excellent food at dinner, and a well-air-conditioned room afterwards. Shower was not hard to use (just two controls, after all) and we survived without a wash cloth (!) in a roomy bathroom. As for the 'cons', the TV had few channels that weren't solely in French, and the hotel parking was 15 euros a night. We parked free overnight on the street and paid 4 euros after 09:00 the next morning for a couple of hours extra. Otherwise, a pleasant (though somewhat 'touristy') place to visit - especially the Old Town, where you can spot hordes of Chinese tourists photographing French waiters while they iron tablecloths!

"Why are there no washcloths?"

Rome_GANomadAtHeart, Metter, Georgia 04/07/2019

Is this a French hotel issue? I have never had so much trouble getting washcloths. The front desk clerk said that everyone here uses them but the hotel does not have them. My Paris hotel was not forthcoming with them but I could eventually get them. Here they don't even pretend to provide them.

"Unreliable AC"

Stampdad1, Sevierville, Tennessee 02/06/2019

We arrived today and checked in and nothing was said to us about the AC being out in the entire building and no attempts were being made to fix it. After talking to others this is a common occurrence. We returned after a nice dinner looking forward to a quiet evening and our room was 22 degrees centigrade. After fooling with it for 30 minutes I finally called the desk. It was going to be Monday the helpful and apologetic person at the desk told us. I had to get a refund from the website I paid for the room with and move causing us 4 hours of lost time. The room was 2 doubles pushed together with separate bedding. Tacky red walls and black trim but clean and well laid out. We needed up downtown at another hotel but parking is a concern. Very disappointed.

"Stay in May 2019 for 5 days"

Deebee38, toronto 02/06/2019

Friendly, helpful staff at desk... close to main train station .My only beef was the shower in bathroom with no mat underfoot for slipping so I used a bath mat...shower is very complicated to use no instructions on how to use it... there should be a safety bar for people to hold onto. Nice free tea or coffee on table ..a nice gesture ...Loved the dining room.. a wonderful breakfast with cheerful staff! Close to buses across street to go into centre ville. Perfect location very pleased but PLEASE get shower instructions and safely bar for we older guys and a rubber mat for tub! Get to see the gorgeous stained glass windows on 2nd floor stairwell...

"Perfect location"

Elizabeth F, Brighton, England, United Kingdom 17/05/2019

This is a refurbished 19th century station hotel. If you need to use the station, which we did, the location is perfect, although it is a 10 minute walk to the middle of town. The staff were very helpful, the room, although quite small , was clean with all the expected amenities and the breakfast was excellent.

"Good Breakfast , Location across station"

andreawijaya, Jakarta, Indonesia 07/05/2019

This hotel is a smaller size hotel with older style decoration. Its like a boutique style hotel. During our stay in end of April,we were woken up by fire alarm 5 oclock in the morning, tried to call reception and found out the phone in my room were not working. We only here a night though for a stopover from switzerland Breakfast was tasty though. Location just across from station.

"Good choice for reasonable price"

darko_trx83, Novi Sad, Serbia 31/03/2019

The location is very convenient to the train station and city center. Staff was very nice and hospitable. They allowed us to check-in earlier. The room size was ok, but the bathroom was very tiny. Breakfast was excellent.

"Convenient location, friendly people."

hendrik_vankets, Ghent, Belgium 20/03/2019

We used this hotel as a stopover on our way to Switzerland. Access from the motorway is easy and usually one can leave the car in front of the entrance (pay at the meter). The hotel has a private car park with an entrance in a side street. The railway station is no more than 100 meters from the hotel. At the time of our stay the hotel was being refurbished but the receptionists gave all possible help to avoid any problem. The room we had was clean, well furnished with a good bed. Actually we had everything needed for a good, quiet night. Breakfast is a self serviced continental style breakfast with everything one can reasonably wish. On site the Bristol has a typical Alsace Brasserie . The receptionists assisted us very well in indicating the places to see in Colmar, a beautiful and romantic little town. Beware of tourist trap eateries in town ans ask receptionists for advice. No doubt we will use this hotel again.

"Good choice for short budget stay"

jelaxo, London, United Kingdom 10/01/2019

Well, this place was… interesting. If you've ever watched American Horror Story Hotel, you'll know what I mean. It's just a bit… creepy. Old furniture. Empty corridors. Kind of fun creepy though. Other than that, it's right across from the train station which is handy as we were traveling from Basel and took a day trip to Strasbourg (highly recommend). It's listed as a 4-star hotel though I would say it's more like a very average 3-star. It's perfectly comfortable, especially for the price. The staff is nice. It's maybe a 15-minute walk to the Christmas markets. The bed was comfy and the shower was nice. The room was quite small yet not at all noisy considering it faced the train station. There is a fridge you can use for bits and bobs. I would say it's a good choice for a short stay on a budget.

"waste of money. "

sallynath, Singapore, Singapore 01/01/2019

super creepy ambience for the room and the corridor. oldish furniture may not be suitable for youngsters. the corridor is dark and scary. but it's quite consider as a good location as it is near to the train station. but the train / bus station not as useful as we thought. since we need to go by feet to the main attraction area. and oh, never order this hotel with the breakfast! food for the breakfast was super disappointed. tasteless and the waitress was super rude. She need to comment rudely when we want to choose our sit by the window. the price for this hotel is not cheap. the price and the real thing is not balance. such a waste. but i guess not much hotel at Colmar, so yea, may be this hotel doesn't feel there is a need to improve. ps: just try to get other hotel if possible guys.

Dear Sallynath, We are sorry to read that you feel so disappointed about your stay. The hotel is going to be renovated…it just needs time to do it step by step. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in Colmar.

Gloria L, Norwich, United Kingdom 30/12/2018

we Decided to visit Colmar in Alsace for Christmas. 5 Christmas Markets on til December 30th. Staying at The Hotel Grand Bristol. I can't fault the service I had in reply to e mails in the weeks before we visited. I was informed that the hotel restaurant wouldn't be open on Christmas Eve. As I knew this was when the Europeans celebrated I wasn't unduly worried. I asked if open on Christmas Day and was told yes. I asked what the Christmas Day menu was and was duly e mailed with menu. We decided on the fish as not keen on pigeon. So I booked lunch on Christmas Eve and for meal on Christmas Day. On arrival our room was comfortable. We had a meal in the evening day before Christmas Eve. However when we were getting ready for bed the toilet blocked and overflowed into bathroom. I had to use the towels in bathroom to try and soak up . I rang reception to report what had happened to be told there was no maintenance people on duty as was Sunday night. I asked what we could do and was told couldn't change rooms as they were full. My husband wasn't very well had a very heavy cold & a very bad cough. So after wondering how we were going to manage I decided I would have to try and unblock myself. Which I duly did I then tried to ring reception but no reply. The next morning I rang down and requested clean towels which after saying no one to bring them the receptionist herself brought. She then asked if we wanted to change rooms so assume she had been in such the previous evening I then said that I had unblocked toilet so wasn't necessary. We then went out to visit a Christmas market but I stopped at reception to make sure we were booked in for the meals I had booked. At first I was told no but I had kept e mail in phone when I said this I was told yes we had booked. Asked what time we wanted Christmas aeve lunch then for Christmas Day evening. On arrival in restaurant on Christmas Day evening we were seated by a door which led to street and was draughty as people coming in constantly. I asked to be moved whereupon was told as we hadn't booked til that afternoon was all they had. I then again pointed out we had booked weeks before . A very helpful man not sure if restaurant manager took us into another room and we seated away from draught. When I was given the menu I said we had booked Christmas meal only to be told oh that was only on at lunchtime so it's normal menu again tonight. When I had booked meal I was not told was lunchtime only or again when I queried at reception about times. On reception desk was a menu and I looked next morning and it wasn't printed on there it was midi only. We were obviously disappointed . I felt as guests staying we should not been given the worst table in the house and should have been told special menu was only at lunchtime Christmas Day. We were staying there for 5 nights so not one nighters. We did enjoy Christmas Markets but they were a distance from hotel. This of course was not the hotels fault we had booked with a special rail journey holiday company. Choosing because of chaos that usually happened at airports (this year drones) we decided to travel on trains & on Eurostar which was excellent. This hotel was rated 4 star and was one of a well known chain.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your comment. We took note of all the facts that you described. First of all, we are very sorry that your stay did not entirely satisfy you. For what happened in you room the first night; it is difficult indeed to manage this kind of trouble on sunday evening. We could have fix it the next morning, or as we suggested to you, relocated you in another room (as we where fully booked on sunday, it was not possible). Regarding your booking for Christmas; we wanted the menu to be available on dinner. But we got so much last minute bookings for the lunch that we almost had no stock available for the dinner... The 25th and 26th being holidays days in our region : impossible to order anymore. Again, we apologize for this.. We hope that you will keep a good memory of Colmar though. If you plan to come again, contact us by phone or email, we will of course, offer you a special rate and is the least we can do.. Best regards,

"Happy Stay"

Best Western Grand Hôtel Bristol: - clean - clear ambiance of Alsace - perfect location(facing Colmar train station and 12 minutes walk away from the center) - the rooms are a bit larger than other European hotel rooms - the breakfast offer is not bad, not super generous though - kitchen closes at 10:30 PM - Breakfast closes at 10:30 AM - room service charges you 4 euros (but they directly tell you before you order) - the staff is either super nice and kind or SUPER RUDE! I wish you luck with who you might need to talk to! There is one woman in the staff who is a small version of Hitler. I hope you don't meet her!

Direction_Strasbourg, Responsable réception at Grand Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write a comment about your stay. We apologize if all the staff of the hotel/restaurant did not behave in a good way with you... It is certainly not the impression we want to leave... We hope you had a good stay though and that the rest of the team was pleasant ! We will be glad to welcome you again in Colmar.

good comfortable stop over on our way to Switzerland. Take a taxi to town centre and Little Italy. But it is difficult to get a taxi back at lunch time. Tip pre-order taxi. The town centre was great, good indoor food market and try a boat ride

"Good hotel, restaurant disappointed us"

967oven, Dana Point, California 19/12/2018

We are staying 4 nights and having the restaurant in the building is ideal. However during December they seem to be busy. We arrived without reservations and were told that no tables were available. After some contemplation we settled for a barlike table set to the side with no ambience. A French couple arriving after us, also without reservations, were told to sit in our area. Shortly thereafter they were shown to a table that had not been made available to us. We felt disappointed how this was handled and complained only to be dismissed by the Maitre'd. No attempt to accommodate us. We unhappily left the restaurant.

"No service whatdorver"

AdventureQueen08, Australia 18/12/2018

We were looking for a coffee. Lounged in the Lounge/bar. No service. Walked up to reception. No service. Went to the restaurant. Told to go to another section for coffee. Went there. Told to return to the Lounge/bar. Returned to Lounge/bar. No one helped us. No service. Potential customers left, totally unimpressed

"Yes, a really great value!"

Aurora_Guy, Fairbanks, Alaska 03/12/2018

Sight unseen, we reserved two rooms in advance based on the reviews here. We were not disappointed. First point: Although we drove, the location is ideal if traveling by train, since it is a few steps from the Colmar rail station. A quick 10-minute walk lands you in the center of Little Venice and the charming center of the old town. The staff make you feel very welcome at check-in. Parking is underground and slightly problematic for larger vehicles. An assistant will guide you. Breakfast is served in a grand dining room, the likes of which are to be found in Vienna tea rooms. Posh, to say the least. The food offerings are rich but typically European or continental. The quality and freshness of the baked goods are top notch. I am sad to say I could not sample the evening meal offerings. Rooms are quite comfortable, a last-century style with modern conveniences. Top floor rooms might enjoy a lovely sunrise or sunset across the skyline. Colmar is symbolic of Liberty as well as a rich, diverse history of European culture. The Grand Hotel Bristol is a gateway to this lovely city.

"good Location, friendly Staff"

Erfurt, Jupiter, Florida 17/11/2018

We stayed at the " Grand Hotel Bristol " from September 19 to September 23, 2018.. it is market as a " Best western Brand " and I must say that the Best Western Plus Monopole Metropole located in Strasbourg is much better and has higher standards. The check - in was smoothened Lȇa at the reception was very accommodating & pleasant. There is parking in front of the Hotel , but you have to go to the parking-meter often and put in coins and information, it is good for short term have to pay from9:00 Am to 7:00 PM..the Hotel has indoor parking, once you know how it works it is easy, and that is where Lȇa comes in because she coached us and was a great HELP !... You have to reserve space ahead of time here and the daily fee is € 15.00.. it is certainly worth it and will make your Life much easier. Once we checked in we were assigned to room 22, we got lost in finding it, but a maintenance- worker dropped what he was doing and walked me to our room, great service. There is no Bellman available to assist you with your luggage howerver the receptionist who checked us in offered to help. Great , I did not want to take advantage of this young lady so I did it myself. The Hotel is located opposite the Train Station, a good location, and it will take a 15 minute walk from here to reach the star attraction called " La Petite Venice ".. The room is large, with a modern design, the carpet in the high traffic areas of the room could use some shampooing, the rest of the room was very clean. There is good closet space,, an in-room safe, Mini Bar, the TV is small with a flat screen by Philips. No CNN channel just Bloomberg, lots of other Channels with different languages. There is a desk, but you don't get a notepad to write on. The room has Twin-Beds pushed together, clean white linen, good lighting, and free Wi-Fi. The Bathroom has two sinks, Shower, clean white towels, magnifying mirror and the W/C is located in a separate room. Good idea. Breakfast is very good and the selection of food items is enormous. There are cheeses, cold cuts, smoked salmon fruits, cakes, various breads, juices, cereal, yogurts, you brew your own coffee, which we like... Overall we had a good stay here, we slept well here too, the staff we came in contact with are friendly. We recommend staying here

"Beware of the Parking Garage "

235wilburnw, Weinheim, Germany 08/11/2018

I was happy enough with the hotel, but not very impressed that the Hotel parking garage was not secure at all. We parked our bicycles there and locked them together. Not secure enough for thieves to cut the lock and steal my bike. The receptionist was helpful enough. But I think the hotel should do a bit more to secure its parking area. Signs tell one to be wary, but cameras are so cheap nowadays that it would not take much to do a better job. Not happy.

Direction_Strasbourg, Responsable réception at Grand Hotel Bristol, responded to this review
Dear Guest, We apologize again for this bad experience. We hope that everything is settle now ? Unfortunately, the parking is to share with the neighbours appartements. That is why we cannot put cameras. But as you wrote on you comment, there are signs on the parking to let the guests know that the hotel won't be responsable for robbery. We apologize again for the disrespect of certain people. Best regards, Reception Manager.

"Convenient in Colmar!"

pnxavier, Summerfield, Florida 22/08/2018

This hotel is very clean ( we stayed in the new building), and is across from the train station. It is a 15 minute stroll to Little Venise! It provides toiletries, large rooms for Europe, has a small but beautiful NEW gym with a great sauna and relaxing deck too which we enjoyed. The staff is nice, yet the restaurant staff and food areaverage, yet ok if you need to stay put. (eat elsewhere for better food) There were drilling sounds from 9am until 5, so be warned, yet the staff offered to move us to the older side of the building to another room which was nice. We were out exploring all day and rested around 5 before our dinner. Take a boat ride through Le Petite Venise and don't miss the Degustation spot, so you can taste all of the Alsacien wines for a mere 20 euro! Also, eat dinner at Cafe Rapp a 5-10 min. walk for great les tartes flambes (French style very thin pizza) which is in a nearby park and frequented by many locals.

The hotel has a great location and easy to find. It is near train and bus stations. And also, it is 10-15mins walk to Colmar center where the Petite Venice is. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. Safe to leave your luggage at the reception area after your check-out and still have spared time to stroll and see the rest of the town. Our room were excellent and very clean. Highly recommend this hotel when you plan to visit Colmar.

There was a time when most cities had a 'station hotel', the Bristol is a fine example. The staff are helpful, good command of English and the meals were fine. Accommodation was roomy and well appointed, we would happily return for a longer visit to Colmar and stay here.

Muriel A, Pahrump, Nevada 04/08/2018

Very nice room with a balcony overlooking the train station. We had a very early train to catch, which why we stayed there. Unfortunately, we missed breakfast, which started at 6:30, the same time our TGV left. It is unfortunate that of all the hotels we stayed at on our 3-week trip, this was the only one where breakfast was included in the price of the room. This used to be very common in France but not anymore. Reception personnel was pleasant, checking in and out very quick and easy.

A nice hotel, opposite the main train station. We were lucky enough to have a corner room with a small balcony. Quite a big room with a good sized bathroom. The parking is underground and a bit tight but you can park on the road for free until 09:00. Breakfast was very good. It's a bit of a walk into the town centre but flat.

Location was a bit dodgy. We booked and paid for a quadruple room but were given a triple. I don't know if this mistake was on booking, com or the hotel itself. The bathroom had a bath with a short showerhose and no shower curtain. On a more positive note, the location was close to centre, the beds were comfortable and the aircon was very welcome. Overall our stay was disappointing and we would not return.

I am staying in Best Western Grand Hôtel Bristol in Colmar, France and since 7.45 in the morning they are have been construction noises which stoped we sleeping and today and i am going to drive ten hours of car. I have called the reseption to ask them to make the construction later not so early in the morning and the once who will incharge said that they can not change the working hours the manager is away on the holiday there is nothing they can do. I asked them again that this is not possible so, they have to do someting because they have disturbed all my sleep and rest . What they answered to me ‘' is if there is nothing they can do. Because there is no one incharge of the hotel right now.'' So i am really disappointed and i wanted to inform you about it.

"A mixed bag...."

discerningWiltshire, wiltshire 20/06/2018

The room we had was a decent size and clean and comfortable, but had fallen victim to some modern re design-which in reality meant a lack of drawer and wardrobe space and some truly revolting bedside lights! The bathroom was very spacious and had twin basins and a walk-in shower which we liked- but why was the light switch on the far wall opposite the door in a windowless room!? Brasserie food was no more than average and seemed expensive. The hotel has no proper bar-just a few tables in reception. Handy for the station though.

"Good food, comfortable beds"

Graham C, Rotherham, United Kingdom 19/06/2018

The Grand Hotel Bristol in Colmar is very comfortable, with a touch of old fashionedness. The staff, especially in the restaurant, are cheerful and helpful. Here the food is typically Alsation. Lots of it and carefully cooked. Lots of variation. The wine list is good. The rooms are comfortable, although not over furnished. However, the toilet paper is poor!!!!!!!

"Enjoyable Stay"

shirleyandcolin, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom 19/06/2018

We spent 8 nights here in room 44 which was excellent. Our room overlooked the main square outside the railway station but there was no noise as the double glazing was excellent. It was very warm during our stay and the air conditioning in the room was extremely efficient at keeping us cool. Our room was modern and very comfortable. All the staff were so friendly from checking in to checking out. The restaurant menu is comprehensive, the food is excellent and the staff extremely friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. The walk into the old town of Colmar is very easy and the town is beautiful. The hotel is not at all run down as someone said in a previous review it is in excellent condition we would highly recommend it.

The hotel is located in front of the central train station in Colmar. That's great location. From there the center city is 5 min walking. A lot of parking area next to the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room cozy and clean. Value for money

"Oldfashion hotel just opposite the Railway station"

User 17/05/2018

This hotel is well situated if you arrive by train. Arriving by car you'll find a safe parking house just a few steps away. The staff at the reception is very friendly and helpful. During our stay there was renovation work going on. It is needed! The room was quite ok, except the wall-to-wall carpet. Beds comfortable. No noice from the railway. The bathroom very tiny. However price/quality ok. Walking distance from the city center.

"A worn down and tired hotel in need of renovation."

User 05/05/2018

The hotel has probably been grand once upon in time, but not anymore. A good location and a parking. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The room was ok but worn, and since the safe did not work we asked for another room and this was not a problem. The breakfast was ok, except for the warm food which was rather bad.

"Good stay"

User 10/04/2018

The Hotel is located in front of the train station which is very convenient. Room is big and bathroom is very big and clean. Breakfast is pretty good. There is the private parking of the hotel which you need to reserve. We use this hotel as our center to travel around Alsace area

"comfortable but in a bit of a time warp"

User 27/03/2018

We visit Colmar 2-4 times a year en route to Italy. We've used this hotel before and always found it comfortable, dog friendly and easy to find. We stopped usin* it because we found good cheaper options and , for us, parking was an issue. Returning after a couple of years and not a lot had changed. And therein lies the rub with this hotel. It is nice, the staff very helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable but it hasn't moved forward and is now, for us, looking a little tired compared to the opposition. The points others have made ( and we made a few years ago) still apply - the small things like plastic cups in the room, only coffee cream and no milk, the lack of secure parking are all still there. Which is a shame. We park on the pay and display spaces outside. It's 3.30 Euro for two hours and free after 6 until 9 next day so if you time it right you can park cheaply. There is free parking at the station nearby. The hotel does have limited underground parking around the corner but with a roof box we couldn't get in. Our car is always full so security is an issue for us but to be fair we've never had a problem with the street parking outside the hotel. We don't eat at the hotel as the options in the old town nearby are too good. It's only a ten minute walk into the old town and, if you are venturing out by train, you just have to walk across the square. It is surprisingly quiet given proximity to the station and we had a good night's sleep. They always lay out a dog bed for our dog which is a nice touch. For me it is the small things which let this hotel down and make it feel like it is caught in time. It may have been a grand hotel at one point, but it doesn't have that feel now. It's good but there are lots of other options nearby. We've used other hotels in the area and had similar comfort and friendliness for less money ( and with parking).

Dear Guest, First of all, we would like to thank you for your comment. We are glad to here that you found the room comfortable and the staff helpful : this is our first goal in customer satisfaction. The actual owner of the hotel bought it 3 years ago. Renovations are plan in the next two year… step by step. We hope that you will keep in mind good memories of your stay and it would be a pleasure to welcome you in Colmar again. Best regards, The Hotel Manager.

"Nice accommodation with a great breakfast "

User 25/03/2018

This attractive hotel is right across from the train station and the bus stops to nearby towns such as Riquewihr. We had a basic “classic” room which was very nice, comfortable and well appointed. Don't miss the exceptionally good breakfast which included scrambled eggs, potatoes, two types of crusty whole grain bread, various preserves, fruit, lettuce, tomatoes, various mueslis, yogurt, fromage blanc, two types of cheeses, excellent dried fruit- apricots and prunes, almonds, hazel nuts, fruit salad, croissants, pan au chocolat, two kinds of cake, bacon, sausage...

"must have improved a lot."

Kirsten H, Ann Arbor, Michigan 27/02/2018

The hotel must have taken the negative reviews to heart because we did not experience any of the problems noted. After staying in the typically small rooms in Paris and Strasbourg hotels, the rooms here felt palatial. Everything was clean, bed was extremely comfortable -- king size -- and there was coffee or tea making facilities and a small fridge in the room. Lots of places to store luggage and put away clothes. No plastic or paper cups -- lots of glasses and real cups. Bathrooms were clean, and for the first time in France we could shower without getting water all over the floor. Service was fine -- we had some questions, which were promptly and pleasantly answered. And the restaurant is actually really really good -- traditional food, executed very well, reasonable prices, so we ended up eating there every evening. I had the best cooked salmon ever in restaurant. Didn't have the breakfast, so can't comment on that. Location across from station is convenient but it does mean a 10-12 minute walk into town. And yes, one does have to re-enter the wireless internet password every time one comes back to hotel. But it is easy to memorize, so I really can't think that is such a big deal. Our room was recently refurbished and spotless -- true, some of the furniture in the common areas looked a little unfashionable, but that is part of the charm. I was pleasantly surprised by how much we liked it and would come back anytime.

Colleagues stay here quite a bit..I've never slept here, but I have had lunch in the restaurant. I'm a vegetarian which can be a bit of a struggle in France, but waitress was extremely helpful. Cheese salad honestly large enough for two people! It was delicious! Their lunch menu has a ‘regional cuisine' section. All 5 members of our party ate from this section & all were very pleased with what we ordered....though I think only 1 could finish what was on the plate. Apparently only local red wine grown in this region is a Pinot Noir and the waitress helped us choose a very nice bottle. Place is always busy so I guess the high quality food & service must be the norm

Service is an absent concept. Staff are reluctant to speak in English and doesn't have the proper front office etiquette. Breakfast is dismal and similar staff service is lacking. From the rooms, you can hear everything outside with the windows closed. Having said that, the rooms are comfortable and livable. For a chain like Best Western, you would expect a certain degree of professionalism so it was shocking to see reception staff eating at the front desk while servicing customers.

"Conveniently located hotel with an excellent restaurant"

Swimmer2554, Istanbul, Turkey 10/02/2018

Right across the train station, the hotel offers comfortable accommodation in good sized rooms with renovated bathrooms. The lighting in the room was very pleasant and sufficient. The hotel had the best restaurant in Colmar: Brasserie Auberge, which was always pleasantly crowded and served the best and the most delicious food for lunch and dinner in the city. Had dinner at the brasserie 3 out of 4 nights we stayed there. The only negative aspect was the lobby as it got terribly cold when the automatic doors opened. The decor of the lobby did not warm up the atmosphere either. Nevertheless, I would highly recommend the hotel and the Brasserie ;))

"Total care"

trevorw535, maidenhead, United Kingdom 06/02/2018

From arrival to departure, all the staff were most welcoming and professional. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Parking was readily available on a street meter. The brasserie food and wine were very good.

"Location is the best part"

Etherdoc, Jacksonville, Florida 21/01/2018

As most of the US travelers, we arrived around noon local time, after having called and (we thought) arranged "early" check-in. Well, no such luck... in typical French fashion, the front desk appeared little interest in our explanations that we had indeed arranged check-in upon arrival. They politely invited us to sit in the lobby, "have a coffee" and relax until they finish cleaning the room, which became available in a couple of hours. It would be fascinating to actually watch to see what takes them 3+hrs for "cleaning" since the checkout time is noon... The room was clean and relatively comfortable, with two twin beds pushed together - the European idea of "Queen" beds. The room was facing the local square right in front of the train station. The proximity to the station (if you travel here by train) is the single best thing about this hotel. They have a restaurant which is rated highly by the locals, and is full on weekends for lunch or dinner. Most frustrating feature: the internet connection (which should be termed, internet-near-connection). The log-in requires a password which is seldom accepted the first time it is entered. When it finally connected, it was so slow that most websites timed-out; which, of course, required re-log-in with the password. The experience was so frustrating, that we gave up after a while and just went for a stroll. We will never go back to this hotel, there are others we would like to try.

"Old fashioned charm"

Jen L, Exeter, United Kingdom 17/01/2018

Having read other reviews we weren't sure what to expect. Pleasantly surprised with a Juliette balcony room overlooking the station and main road, traffic noise not really a problem. Room clean, rather old fashioned decor but in keeping with the age of the building, modern style bathroom with shower over bath, well lit. We were only here for one night. Wi-fi worked okay. The inclusive dinner was perfectly fine considering how many diners there were. Breakfast was help yourself and had a reasonable variety available. Drinks were from a vending machine. Would be happy to stay here again.

"Very desappointing hotel"

User 27/12/2017

We arrive to this hotel on Tuesday 26th December 2017. We were deceived from our arrival... We arrived around 10am from Paris and they didn't check us in until 3pm. Wifi service was not available until after 48 hours. Yet it was very bad connection, and every time we ask weather they fixed the wifi we felt as if we were offending them... ( on peut rien Faire..) we ve heard this every time. Breakfast buffet wasn't good, it wasn't rich and eggs were cold... In fact our friends stayed in 2 stars... Paid half our price and were much more satisfied. I will never repeat it... Terrible.

"Near to station"

John D, Nathalia, Australia 07/11/2017

Staying just the single night, this was convenient to the train station, but not to most of the town where you would want to go & see things in the old town. Room was pokey, but adequate. Meal was plain but serviceable. It would be worth the effort to get further into the middle of town.

User 17/10/2017

I don't understand how this hotel can be a four-star-hotel... Rooms are really outdated (the bathroom is ok but we went in this hotel for the bath and it is so small that my husband couldn't fit in!).

"Very Disappointing "

User 10/10/2017

Internet in name only. No Parking. Restaurant is to be avoided. No bar service. Decent location. I would never stay here again. Nothing else to say. You even have to post a deposit to use their umbrellas.

"Convenient hotel"

Woodystours14, Norwich, United Kingdom 04/10/2017

We arrived by train and this is ideal as you only have to walk across the road, just a bit disappointing. Perfectly clean room and adequate for a night. Very quiet, paper cups for a drink in your room and wifi a bit hit and miss. A 15 min walk into Colmar, which is well worth it a very pretty town. Dinner in the evening with a group was also a bit hit and miss we got our choice- which we had chosen earlier in the day- but quite a few in the group didn't . Breakfast was fine.

"No One Could Reasonably Ask for More"

Martyn N, Paris, France 03/10/2017

I have a bit of a soft spot for Best Western chain hotels. Okay, they're a bit quirky, but that adds to the charm. 'The Grand' in Colmar is the least eccentric I have experienced and there is very little I can say about it other than our experience was superb. A spotlessly clean, quiet, double room with a bath and all the equipment anyone could reasonably expect; and at a very competitive price. A copious breakfast included with an abundance of all the fare you could wish for, from cereal and bacon and egg, through an extensive range of fresh fruit, to pastries and cheeses. So stuff yourself senseless if you're that way inclined. But let's face it, you don't go to a resort to sit in the hotel, so unless you are looking for some exotic, hi-tech, sauna-equipped establishment, what more could you possibly require than all this? The elegant building is probably an old station hotel and, as the address suggests, is across the road from la gare - another mega plus, but there is also excellent parking. Town is a pleasant, ten minutes, brisk walk away. The staff, from Lea, who we encountered on reception and managed to combine model-girl good looks with charm and efficiency, to the servers in the breakfast room, are helpful and delightful. Best Western seem also to have a knack for employing super efficient domestics/chamber maids and this establishment is no exception. Impeccable presentation of the rooms with a cheery, welcoming manner. Any 'downs' at all. Not really. Some might find it a bit disconcerting to be surrounded, almost exclusively, by elderly Germans and German-speaking Swiss on coach trips. But, the hotel would probably consider, with every justification, that that is a recommendation. A really super hotel that I cannot recommend sufficiently highly.

"Convenient location"

User 24/09/2017

I don't know why it has 4 star designation. Perhaps the convenient location across the railway station and a pleasant walking distance to the heart of the charming city. No noise indeed overnight, but in the morning the excavation in the plaza was starting early. Bad luck, you wood say. Breakfast was fairly good. The local famous pastries were old, dry and some a bit burnt. And that in both mornings. La gare is a real treat though. Notice the shape of an old train engine. Les grands vitraux are esquisite.

"very mediocre"

susan r, grande bretagne 15/09/2017

Room was a superior double. First issue was lack of Bath towel. Had to phone down for a second one. Tea facilities ok but cardboard cups? I don't think so. No dressing gowns. Some lights not working. No decent smellies in the bathroom. 2nd day returned to room at 4.30 pm to find room hadn't been serviced at all. Phoned reception who said could we wait until 5.30. No we said. They came in 5 mins. No real apology from reception . We asked for manager who surprise surprise was not available. Said we would speak with her on departure and was told she may be in by 9 or 10. On departure we were told she had gone to Strasbourg. I think they knew that the night before . They offered us a free garage for the 2 nights. €30 Their attitude was appalling

Eddie D, Gosford, Australia 06/09/2017

We had just left Best Western Butterfly in Zermatt which was 3 stars and we were delighted with it so were very disappointed to find this hotel, with 4 stars, we thought it would have been at least as good but it did not match at all. The hotel needs a facelift, room was dingy but clean. Balcony was terrible, looked on to roof tops but was just gravel and weeds, would have been nice to have a few pot plants. Wifi was terrible. Breakfast was good though. Close to railway station and a short walk into town. Colmar is beautiful. Staff were unfriendly and unhelpful.

"Mostly good, though with some flaws"

NautiusMaximus, London 03/09/2017

My first impression of this hotel was good enough. The reception staff were friendly and helpful, and my bedroom was certainly a good size, comfortable, and well kitted out. And indeed for the most part, the hotel was pretty good, but there were just a few annoying flaws. The wifi was free, but it was a bit faffy to use. It kept logging you out at frequent intervals and you had to keep logging in again. I'm not sure why they felt the need to do that when it was free anyway. The bathroom in my room looked very nice at first glance, and even had 2 wash basins. However, the shower was not at all well designed. There was a shower attachment over the bath, rather than a dedicated shower. That's absolutely fine, except that the shower screen that should in theory make sure that the water from the shower stays in the bath rather than ending up all over the floor was not actually up to the one thing it had to do. I'm not sure whether it just wasn't big enough or whether it leaked at the bottom, but one way or another, every time I showered I ended up with a massive pool of water on the bathroom floor. My room was on the second floor, so in general I would have been happy to use the stairs rather than the lift. However, that was a bit hazardous: a couple of the stairs were not straight, and I almost lost my footing a couple of times on the staircase. I ended up using the lift more often than I would normally do. If you use the stairs, please be careful! The air conditioning in my room stopped working on my last night there. On the plus side, breakfast was pretty good. There was a fairly limited hot buffet, but to be fair, hot breakfasts aren't really a thing in France. The cold buffet was much better. I didn't get to try lunch. We tried to have lunch, but failed. We were on a bit of a tight schedule, and although we explained this to the waiter, no-one really seemed interested in coming to take our order. In the end, we gave up and went across the road to get a sandwich from the station instead. Talking of the station, if you're arriving in Colmar by train, the location really couldn't be better. It's literally just across the road from the station. It's not such a great location for the prettier bits of town, but it's no more than about 20 minutes walk from the nice bits of town where you'd probably want to go out for dinner. Despite being so close to the station, I wasn't bothered by train noise at all, though my room was on the opposite side of the hotel. I suppose it might be a problem if you're on the side of the hotel facing the station: I don't know.

"Excellent station hotel"

Ranke, Bangor, Maine 29/08/2017

Fine hotel adjacent to the train station: friendly reception, clean and quiet room, an excellent restaurant on the premises, a decent price, and nothing at all to complain about. Sure, it's a 10-minute walk to the touristic heart of the old town, but it's also nice to be able to leave all that behind in the evening. For rail travelers, at least, there is no reason to go anywhere else.

"Hotel across the street from the train station"

nptp84, Ocean City, New Jersey 21/08/2017

The Grand Hotel Bristol is a solid three star hotel in Colmar located directly across the street from the Colmar central train station. It is clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from Old Town. The walk was easy and we felt safe walking into Old Town from the hotel. We had no problems with WiFi as mentioned by another reviewer. If you want to stay close to the train station, then this is the place to stay.

"Convenient to the Train Station, But Not to Old Town"

janmarie1013, Setauket, New York 15/08/2017

The "Grand Hotel" Bristol is just "okay". While it was convenient to jump on the train to visit Strasbourg, for example, or other points in Alsace and beyond; it was not convenient to the lovely Old Town for which Colmar is famous. It was a 15-minute walk, which was not so bad going, but a bit of a stretch coming home at night after dinner. The staff was fine, with a special shout-out to a server in the restaurant, (I did not catch his name), who was very patient with my tour group. Room service was good, albeit with a limited menu. I ordered the poached salmon, and it was excellent. This was a very busy hotel, and the breakfast buffet, though extensive, was a bit crazy with the crowds, self-service coffee machines, etc. My best advice for the management: If the Grand Hotel Bristol wants to serve an international and sophisticated clientele, they need to get their act together with the WIFI. The service was very spotty and caused a lot of frustration for me and the other members of my group.

"Unwilling experience"

marelte, Bucharest, Romania 09/08/2017

Although rated a 4 star, my strong believe is that it would struggle to get a 3 star rate in many countries. What I will share next refers strictly to the room I had, not knowing how the others are looking like. I booked for the Tradition Confort Room (not the cheapest) and I was stroke by the small surface of it and the old furniture. The room was meant to be 20 sqm but this surface would have been reached only by taking into account the hallway and the bathroom, both encompassing about 10 sqm. The furniture is about 40 years old, although still functional. The TV was not functioning the first night (problem solved the second day) and the shower flooded the whole bathroom, so I had to find a position in a corner for taking a shower in order not to have water all-around. You have to ask for the amenities, if not you won't get it! And we are speaking about a 4 star! The parking lots are very narrow, so you have to be cautious when using it. The breakfast is OK, not very big variety but enough for starting the day.

"Lots going for this hotel, needs to improve room design"

watercolorist11215, New York City, New York 04/08/2017

Hotel is about a mile outside of the central old town attractions, it meant we got to walk off our dinner. And it is a pretty walk. If you want to be in the heart of the town activities, then select another hotel. Our room: the bed was very comfortable, room was quiet and we could control temp and make it dark enough. But this was a room that was filled with poorly-thought out features. We kept bruising our shins on the low bench with sharp edges. No task lighting at all. Bathroom had two sinks but you couldn't use the second sink if the door was open. Couldn't open the trashcan because it was placed between the two sinks. The designer of this room should be forced to live in it for a few days and I bet a lot of things would get changed. Staff was generally caring, I got the impression that a lot of things were held back because of budget reasons. Our room had no view, but others in our group had rooms with views and balconies. Breakfast was fine with a large selection of items to choose from. Lounge area was not very interesting, but the attached restaurant was better appointed or you could sit outside.

"Nice hotel in a beautiful town"

User 25/07/2017

The first good point about this hotel is that it is within a few metres of the train station. It is about a 15 minute walk into town through a lovely park into the stunning town centre. The staff at reception are extremely helpful. The room was large with a walk in shower. Breakfast is buffet style with bacon and scrambled eggs included. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel

"Brilliant location. Pity about service."

405markw, Stamford, England, United Kingdom 19/07/2017

Stayed here while on tour with Great Rail Journeys. Could not be handier for the station! Had a problem at check-in as electronic room key did not work; after reprogramming by polite and helpful desk staff it still did not work and after a further 20 minutes wait with cases in a sweltering corridor we were allocated a replacement room for which the key did work. The room was fine: it had particularly good air-conditioning that we could control and drinks-making facilities. No view but that happens sometimes. We had lost half an hour of a very short stay, though, over the non-unlockable door. The evening meal was a disappointment. The food was quite good and there was plenty of it but the system of ordering and paying for the drinks (which were not included in our pre-paid table d'hôte meal) was bizarrely inefficient. Further, jugs of tap-water did not appear until after some of us had unnecessarily ordered expensive bottled water. At one point a waitress, clearly under pressure to carry more than she should, dropped a soiled knife on my wife's clothes and while she apologised no attempt was made by management to contribute to cleaning cost. After the meal some of the party had still not been able to pay for their drinks and someone had to disturb our social time together to come round like a bus-conductor taking fares! Why not just ask for the money when delivering the drinks? Breakfast was a much better and calmer affair, although it took us a while to grasp the buffet system.

"Not that central"

Mvanting, Middelfart, Denmark 15/07/2017

Booked this hotel as it seemed central located at the central station. Turned out it was about 1 km. from mid-Colmar. Another influencer was the deal with fitness and spa and parking. Turned out the spa and fitness was only open in the afternoon (really - you do not want to work out in the morning??). Parking needed to be reserved so was only available at the last night.(15€ pr Night) but you could park on the other side of the central station for 5 € or free if you were lucky). The room was clean and spacious but only had a sliding door to the toilet so not great if you like a little privacy. We walked to our room on 3rd all days which was fine as the elevator was always blocked with lots of people. Only I was annoyed with cherry stone lying on the staircase for all 5 days we were staying. Staff was really friendly and the breakfast was ok every morning. There is a bistro in connection with the hotel but we only ate there the first night as we were quite disappointed. I know it sounds a bit grumpy but I think the selling material was a bit over selling so guess it is expectation management. The spa facilities were nice with 2 different saunas but missed a pool or something for full spa experience. The fitness room was really small. We did enjoy Colmar and Alsace a LOT!!!

"Stunning views"

jenben39, Singapore, Singapore 09/07/2017

Gorgeous hotel with old world details. We had a stunning view of the lake from our room. There were two balconies to relax and enjoy from. The pool is very relaxing and includes a waterfall and two whirlpools. Would definitely recommend his to those who enjoy stunning old world features such as chandeliers and beautiful curtains.

"Hotel facing train station"

yimyaem, Bangkok, Thailand 06/07/2017

This hotel is named publicly as Best Western grand hotel Bristol (full name seen in front of hotel), maybe by now it's in best western chains and it's 4-star hotel as advertised under hotel name Location - so convenient because just step out of train station and hotel is at the opposite side. It 's so easy to walk to old town (maybe about 20 minutes with normal speed). There is also bus station so nearby that people can take to another 2 small cute cities ,named Riquewihr and Ribouville,). These 2 small cities can be made together for 1-day trip and worthwhile for visit. For Colmar where this hotel is located, you can spend 1 day for sightseeing walk in old town. In old town you will find a lot of photo-taken spots and there are a number of Michelin -guided restaurant in colmar for dining experience Room size - My booked room is for 3 persons, size is big enough and comfort for 3. Room color tone is white and bright Breakfast is not big and little variety PROBLEM OCCURRED DURING STAY I had stayed here for 3 nights, everything looked firstly good and satisfying. But something happened in one morning during my stay period. My son , he left a pile of euro coins on in-room table and went down for breakfast with us about 8.30 , when we came back to room after breakfast , we found one maid in room. This maid, as seen, was still cleaning room but my son's euro coins disappearing from table so we asked her whether she saw or not. What she told us, she thought that the whole pile of euro coins was assumed for her tip money so she took all and put in her pocket. She returned some coins but not correct because it was less than we left. All I think, as a 4-star hotel , housekeeping maids should not even touch any stuffs of guests , except that maids saw some guests' note showing that guests appreciate to give as tip money. I had informed this story to hotel staffs to have talk with housekeeping maid what maids should do and treat with guests' stuffs left in room while not checking out. So this story is for warning that it can happen. So please keep every valuable stuffs (even coins) in your safe. As a 4-star hotel, they should check housekeeping standard and quality whether it match with worldwide 4-star hotels or not. This case is so sensitive for guests who pay high for good hotels

"GREAT - Nice Room - Literally across from the train station"

carb-lover, carb-lover 05/07/2017

Our family stayed in Colmar in June 2017 at the Grand Hotel Bristol. The hotel was very comfortable, the room had ICE COLD AC !! The sheets were so soft and room was quiet. I felt a real good value. Not in the tourist part of town, you will have to walk or take a bus or cab. They say 10 minutes but its more like 15 or 20. WORTH IT to us as we like to get in our steps and it was so convenient to the train station. We needed our luggage held both in and out and the staff was so great about that. The hotel has a really nice breakfast and sidewalk café. I have only good things to was a great stop and I really recommend this hotel. :)

"good stay"

Saaamchan, Geroldswil, Switzerland 24/06/2017

I came here spontanious with a friend. The service was good and friendly. The room was tidy and the bed was comfortable. The hotel is located right next to the train-station which is really convinient. (Its also super close to the Bus-stop) I would come here again! The only negative point is, that we forgot some souvenir in the room when we checked out. And when we came back later and asked for it. They couldn't find anything. Our fault after all...

"Charming hotel."

wimmer2017, Bern, Switzerland 04/06/2017

Very nice hotel, very charming personnel, very helpful. We felt welcome and 'at home'. Great breakfast buffet. We enjoyed our stay in Colmar a lot and the hotel was part of it. It is located right next to the train station but is only five to ten minutes walk from the old town.

"Never again!"

User 17/05/2017

Well... I still cannot find the right words for this hotel. I booked a room here last year and I could not be happier because we just stayed here only one night. The hotel's location is great, it is next to the railway station. (It is not the best choice if you want to visit the Christmas markts) The problems started in the room. We thought it is a four star hotel. Nobody told us there is a 2 star hotel part as well with the same name, same location and the same reception. It was a shame. Do not book here or ask the hotel (before the reservation!) where will be your room located. (I told my opinion to the lady at the reception and she tried to understand and help us but her manager told the hotel is fully booked and we need to be grateful our room is higher class than I booked.) I attached some photos about our room (nr. 206)

"Overall decent hotel in Colmar, some room for improvement.."

TheFairReviewer1987, London, United Kingdom 08/05/2017

+ Staff was very friendly and helpful + Location is good in Colmar, right by the train station, good for transportation to other places + room was small but clean and equipped with all necessary items BUT - no hand soap in the bathroom - a bit noisy at night as I believe there is a club nearby of which one could still hear music at c. 3:00am - the breakfast is really mediocre. The croissants were nice but there were no nice hot items such as eggs, bacon, etc. There really should be more at €17 per person...

"Good location"

erolbenezra, Istanbul, Turkey 04/05/2017

Best western bristol hotel is just infront of the train and bus station. By walking you can reach in 10 minutes to the center. The hotel is clean and the staff are very helpfull. Breakfast was good and you can eat every thing fresh and delicious.

"Not happy with fire safety"

jacqueline57, Nottingham, United Kingdom 03/05/2017

Lovely hotel. Average food. BUT. The fire alarm went off as we went to bed, we exited the building...about half a dozen of us. The staff faffed around trying to reset the alarm, we saw no sign of anyone checking for an actual fire No member of staff tried to clear the hotel, or offered any help to those outside inthe cold. No Pompiers arrived The receptionist insisted it was a fault with the system and tried to send us back to bed without having reset the system....did not like being questioned about the safety of all of this either The next morning people were told that someone had accidentally pressed alarm button inthe garage........fault or system failure......or incompetence in fire safety procedure

"3-star quality with a 4-star rating"

Larry K, Paris, France 30/04/2017

This hotel is a bit tired. The mattresses are not very firm, and the decor is dated. However, the quality of the breakfast is first-rate, served in an attractive dining room. My biggest complaint is low-quality WiFi service. The location is very convenient to the railroad station, but therefore a bit far from the old town and Little Venice areas.

"Value for money. "

User 19/04/2017

Booked a 3 persons room. Stayed 1 night. Room is comfortable. 10mins walk to City center and Little Venice. I like the friendly service and the atmosphere of L'Auberge Brasse. They serve good local delicacy. Must try when u stay here.

"Clean, Comfortable, Spacious and Good Location"

John L, Arlon, Belgium 07/04/2017

A family of three (elder son) traveling to Colmar overnight to see the city and onward to surrounding villages. This hotel is located directly across a small lane way at the Gare (Train Station), but that posed no issue at all - and we slept with our window open (room faced the station). It is off the beaten path in that the location is about 1 Km from the old town and "sights" but actually we preferred this. Very easy stroll to the museums and "Little Venice". The room was very spacious and actually had a third bed in a separated room. The decor is getting a bit worn but still, not unpleasant. The counter staff were very friendly and helpful. Parking was fine (indoor) although limited in spaces. The breakfast buffet was excellent - great selection that was constantly being replaced. The Wifi worked well, but every time you turn off your device you need to re-enter the password which can be frustrating but minor. There was also tea and instant coffee and kettle. Considering this was midweek we thought the room rate was good at 145 Euro including breakfast for three + 15 Euro for parking + city tax (unavoidable).

"Not sound proof "

Kathakali_12, Kingston upon thames, United Kingdom 21/02/2017

I have visited Colmar a few times and decided to stay at the Bristol opposite the train station as it is pretty convenient if you travel by train but with the ample selection of hotel in Colmar to choose from you are never far away from the station. For a 4 starred hotel this one fall below expectations, the room are not sound proof, the cleaning no thorough and the safe is not fixed and could easily be taken under the arm. Nonetheless the bathroom is modern and the staff is polite.

"Good Value for Price"

ccbb3306, Frankfurt, Germany 20/02/2017

Taking everything into consideration this is a good hotel option especially if you are traveling by train and don't mind the 15 minute walk to the center of the city. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and the breakfast, which is included in the price of the room, was extensive. The hotel has limited parking in the garage but we easily found free parking on Sunday. Parking is free from 7:00 pm until 9:00 am 1.60 an hour after that. The room was on the small side but you'll be so busy exploring the charming city that you won't even notice!

"Good value for money"

AudG2016, Helsinki, Finland 31/12/2016

The room was spacious, good and warm even in the winter. The staff polite and helpful. Excellent location if you are travelling by train and still not too far from the centre. Breakfast is not worth it unless included in the room rate - and no soundproofing between rooms and the corridor.

"This is not the Best Western that Americans envision!"

VAfoodie2014, Arlington, Virginia 31/12/2016

What a nice hotel! we couldn't believe it when we pulled up at this hotel. Being a "Best Western" and next to the train station, well, you know what 3 American travelers expected. This far exceeded expectations. The hotel had an elegant old-world style lobby (enormous ceilings, big furniture, big glass windows, big sweeping staircase.). Though in an old building, our room was spacious and modern, with a great bathroom (think nice hot strong shower), and heated towel racks. The beds were comfortable, and three tired travelers all slept like rocks--just what you REALLY want in a hotel. We had breakfast at the hotel the next morning (and extra charge), that featured a wide variety of quality of pastries, breads, meats, cereals, eggs, etc. (Yes, do it!). We were able to park our car on the street outside of the hotel, but there are only a limited number of spots (maybe 6) and they didn't appear to belong to the hotel--i went out in the morning and put some money in the parking meter before breakfast. I would stay here again if in the area. Particularly if arriving in Colmar by train. it seemed very close to the main downtown area. And it greatly exceeded my expectations for a chain hotel.

"Wish we could have stayed longer"

jodom2165, Edmonton, Kentucky 14/11/2016

The hotel is old and charming but the rooms are updated. The bed was very comfortable, the pillow and bedding was great. Location is perfect for walking to all the sites. Breakfast was fantastic. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We would absolutely stay here again.

"Wish we had more time there"

UsaMaggie, USA 04/11/2016

This hotel is very close to the train station making it perfect for our trip. It was clean and very comfortable. The staff was helpful and spoke English very well. Loved Colmar. It is a beautiful city. We could walk everywhere we needed to go from this location.

"They Were There When We Needed Them"

User 22/10/2016

My wife and I were on a genealogical research trip through Germany, France and Italy. I had reservations for the Colmar Hotel. To my embarrassment and horror I discovered I had mixed up the days on my trip itinerary and I was supposed to have checked in the day before. Dejected, my wife and I were lugging our bags up the street commiserating that it was the weekend and we were probably going to have travel back to Germany in order to find lodging. To our great fortune we wandered into the Grand Bristol and explained our situation. [Sun comes out and angels sing]. The had a room available immediately. And a wonderfully nice room it was. Clean, comfortable with a great bathtub to soak away the weariness of traveling. We were so comfortable, the service was so good that we stayed an extra day to explore more of Colmar. I especially want to thank the staff for contacting our next stop in Vitznau Switzerland and setting up conditions for our arrival while switching effortlessly between French, German and English. Thanks for being there when we needed you!!

"Would stay here again "

User 16/10/2016

The hotel is right across the Colmar train station. You can get there without Google map. It is an old building with fair maintenance. Our room is not big but adequate and clean. Breakfast selection is ok. Dinning room is elegant. There is a gym but didn't have time to try. Would choose here again if I stay overnight at Colmar.

"Not bad but I didn't get a great room"

m0ntesansavin0, Arezzo 12/10/2016

The hotel is very convenient for the train and accessible to the motorway. There is garage parking which is handy. The staff are welcoming. I was allocated room 10. It is smart, well equipped with a decent sized bathroom. It has a small terrace with could be pleasant in the summer. Unfortunately around 5am I heard noise from other guests and movement of luggage. I think it was from the lift shaft which runs through the room. In addition someone telephoned at 0600. Probably another room would be better. Breakfast was good. Happy to stay here but not that room.

"Convenient to the train station."

User 06/10/2016

We arrived in Colmar by train, and this was a nice hotel very near the station making it convenient to get to with our bags. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself was fine (breakfast was not included so we did have to walk into town to get something in the morning). It is a little bit of a walk to the old town (15 minutes maybe), but we preferred the nearness of the train station to a hotel in the old town itself.

"Classic European midprice hotel"

FunOnly, Calgary, Canada 02/10/2016

We had an overnight stay in Colmar on a driving trip from Beaune to the Black Forest. The Bristol met our criteria for easy access from the freeway; secure parking and close proximity the Little Venice district. We booked a Deluxe Queen bedroom away from the street and were given a very comfortable room with a balcony in the block of rooms that had been very nicely refurbished. The color scheme was bright and inviting and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and modern. The air conditioning was quiet and efficient. The balcony was and added nice touch with flowering planter boxes. We had a 10 minute walk to the Little Venice area, that in our opinion, is the most beautiful in all Alsace! There some street venders and young people hanging around the train station but the main roads to the Little Venice is well lit and populated so we did not feel uncomfortable walking back to the hotel after dark at about 10 pm. Breakfast was typical for a mid price hotel with adequate choices and was filling. The hotel is adjacent to the railway station so that street parking, even to register at the front desk can be a challenge. We had to make a circuit around the block to get to the private parking lot but excellent instructions with pictures are provided at the front desk. The parking lot is not for the faint hearted, as the entrance is very narrow and enclosed by unforgiving walls! Unknown to us was that the annual Colmar Marathon was taking place on the morning of our departure and that the roads would close at 8:30am. We were pleased that the front desk advised us of this at check in so that we could have an early breakfast and depart before the curfew. We were really thankful that we had chosen a hotel with easy freeway access!

"Classic style hotel"

Aki N, Shanghai 25/09/2016

We had two rooms for a family with interconnecting door. Hotel building is old and the style has been kept classic. The building is quite nice looking, but a some areas could use some update. Bathrooms were quite small and old. There was no long term parking next to hotel, you need to takeyour car some 200-300 m away to railway station parking area. The staff was not very friendly, but not rude either. Breakfast was at extra cost (other Best Westerns we had were breakfast included), but still not any better than other hotels. Overall we felt this hotel was average in many terms, service, premices, location, value for money.

"Clever choice"

nebalet, istanbul 21/09/2016

20 minutes of walking to the old town but other than that everything was fine. The rooms are clean and spacious and the staff is very helpful. Although it is right oppositethe train station it is a very safe neighborhood..

"Good hotel but some Customer Service training wouldn't go amiss!"

Chris B, London, United Kingdom 16/09/2016

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel which, in general, we found to be pretty good. The facilities in the room were OK, it was quiet, despite being near the railway station, and the bed was comfortable. The attached restaurant (l'Auberge) was excellent (it pays to book a table for dinner as it is very popular), and this is also where breakfast was taken, nwhich was also very good. Parking underneath the hotel was convenient (book in advance to be sure of a space), and it is an easy 15 minute walk into the picturesque old town of Colmar. The only negative worth speaking about was the attitude of one of the young girls at reception who either needs to have some customer service training or find another career. After the first night we noticed that our paper cups (for coffee/tea ) and milk pots had not been replaced so on passing Reception on our way out to dinner we asked if they could replace them. The young lady behind the desk said that the paper cups and milk were only provided on the first night, so "normalement" they would not be replaced if one stayed a second night. I said that I was surprised that a hotel such as this in the Best Western chain were unable to replace a couple of paper cups and milk pots and (somewhat tongue in cheek) asked the young lady if she would be kind enough to make an exception on this occasion. She grudgingly said that she would see what she could do. Fortunately the cups and milk pots were replaced whilst we were out, but it was a pity that this young lady had behaved the way she did; perhaps she just needs some customer service training or maybe find a career where she is not in contact with the public!

"Wonderful stay"

Barry D, London, United Kingdom 15/09/2016

I agree with everything said by Pat W. I too stayed there this month and only echo what she has said. Super hotel in a great location in a lovely town. Good professional staff and excellent meals. Can't fault in any way.

"Elegant Hotel"

Pat W, New Milton, United Kingdom 14/09/2016

We have just spent six days at this beautiful, elegant hotel. Just across the street from the railway station, the hotel is in a prime location for visiting all the lovely places in Alsace and beyond. Our room was very spacious and with the luxury of two balconies an absolute treat to sit and relax after a day sightseeing. The staff were friendly and the food was very good. We will be visiting Colmar again next year and this will be the hotel of our choice. Pat W.

"Great Location"

Nakitravellers, New Plymouth, New Zealand 12/09/2016

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, Melanie was an exceptional staff member who made our save very enjoyable, she was very helpful. Our room was modern, there were facilities to make a hot drink, mini fridge, bathroom clean and modern.

"Great Stay in lovely hotel"

traveltrio03, Houston, Texas 12/09/2016

We booked a Jr. Suite to accommodate three people, and it worked out great. The room was spacious, the bathroom nice and large. We requested singles, so they separated the beds in the main bed area, and then there was a single bed tucked behind a half wall that separated itself from the main sleeping area. There was also a small sitting area, and we found it plenty of space. The room overlooked the town, so it was a beautiful view in the morning. The AC was VERY cold - worked perfectly, and could not have asked for more. Decor was fine. Beds extremely comfortable. Short walk to Colmar center. Really was a pleasant walk through the park. And directly across the street from the train station. Perfect location for those travelling by train. When people complain about room size, they really need to do research and get dimensions of rooms before complaining. If you don't want a small room, book a larger one. The breakfast was awesome. More than we could have asked for - eggs, breads, pastries, cereals, yogurts, meats, cheeses, you name it. More than filled our appetites. I am a VERY picky person when it comes to where I stay, and the Best Western Grand Hotel Bristol did not disappoint at all. Very charming outside, and it was good to see it right there after a long haul flight and train ride.

"A bit old-fashioned but totally fine for a short stay"

piktojikarolyte, Lenzburg, Switzerland 23/08/2016

The hotel itself is a bit confusing as our room was on the first floor and somehow in a different section of the hotel thus it was not very easy to navigate the coridors but once you did, our room was perfectly fine. We had a superior room so there was a patio with a seating area, the bathroom and toilet were separate, the room was really big and spacious (bed was huge as well) and everything was new and spotlessly clean. It is true that hotel feels a bit old-fashioned but this was only the case in the common areas, really no issue with the room itself (ours was no 10, maybe other sections of the building are different). For my liking the breakfast was absolutely fine and could have not wanted more but keep in mind that it is France - they definitely have a sweet tooth so a wide selection of sweet pastry and jams :) Location is also good - it's 10-15min to walk to the city centre and you pass a beautiful park on the way. The only complaint is that their garage was full so no parking was available and we had to use one of the public parking sites nearby. That was a bit costly and not so convenient but it worked just as well.

"Walking distance from city centre"

ohusby, Trondheim, Norway 17/08/2016

Close to the railway station, the hotel is in walking distance from the beautiful Colmar centre. We needed som service from the hotel to get maps etc from the tour operator, but the staff was a bit reluctant to help, and when the papers came, they managed to lose them. But in general, nice place to stay.

"Very handy for the Gare Colmar"

C6Dave, Northumberland 11/08/2016

The hotel is directly over the road from the railway station so a great spot to break a journey and explore 'little Venice' in the heart of town about 20 minutes walk away. The room (222) wasn't big but had what appeared to be a recently refurbished bathroom with walk in shower. Air Con was nice and quiet as well and was at the back overlooking a yard area so was quiet at night. Breakfast was a bit disorganised but had a good variety including ready to eat, soft boiled eggs and scrambled as an alternative. Drinks if you want them are brought through from the Brasserie next door and have to be paid direct and can't go on the room bill which was very strange. If you do go by car, the car park is around the rear with an entrance off Avenue De Republique

"Avoid this terrible hotel: old, uncomfortable, basic hotel"

Knus2016, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 09/08/2016

The hotel is really old, the rooms are very small, uncomfortable and has very small bed. The breakfast was very terrible and basic, and unfriendly staff. It looks like a 2 star hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. We had stayed in Best Western Grand hotel in Detmold Germany before, and it was really good one. This hotel in Colmar is nothing similar to that. The breakfast was really terrible, no fresh fruit or juice, very limited choice, old and supermarket quality bread. The staff are not so friendly and if you don't speak french, they are not willing to answer your questions. In total I would say it is a 2 star hotel, and it is not worth to go for the money you pay per night.

"Refurbishment required"

cambo2910, Nantwich, United Kingdom 24/07/2016

Selected this hotel whilst passing through Colmar because of its location directly opposite from the railway station. Our room on the third floor overlooking the main road and rail station was small and rather tired looking, bedding was clean as was the bathroom. After browsing the dinner menu we decided to give it a miss and later chatting to other guests it appears we made the right decision, poor service and average food.

"Unfriendly area"

User 24/07/2016

The hotel was very disappointing. We had a superior double room but I found it not to be superior at all. I had requested a double bed and had two singles pushed together. The air con was extremely noisy and the toilet was separate from the shower which was small. They left damp towels in our room one day.The bed sheets were not changed for three days and I had to request milk for the tea/coffee facilities every day and I only received two milks so if I wanted more than one tea I couldn't have one. At breakfast the staff were unfriendly, they didn't say good morning, just asked for your room number.I expected better from Best Western and would never stay here again.

"Grand Style Station Hotel!"

T-Bird1974, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 23/07/2016

This traditional hotel is conveniently located opposite the train station but a 10-15 min. walk to the cozy center of Colmar. The place has limited paid parking but is surprisingly free in a lot next to the station! Our spacious air- conditioned room had a bathroom with two sinks, a shower, a separate toilet, a flat-screen TV and free WIFI. The queen size bed with its heavy all-season deck bed made it uncomfortably warm but too cool without! Breakfast was fine except for the scrambled eggs which were more suitable for a baby as they were apparently stirred too much. The restaurant has an extensive dinner menu and is quite popular with the locals. The staff at the desk is friendly and accommodating.

"AC does not work "

cassiej25, Dublin, Ireland 17/07/2016

AC did NOT work in our room - at all. We stayed here during a heat wave in July. It was hot, hot, hot! We took 3 cold showers in one day to try and cool down. We had to ring front desk twice upon arrival to get a key card that worked. The room was pretty but, too warm to actually enjoy. The bathroom sink was clogged, dirty water was coming back up. The location was great- right across from train station. We ate at the restaurant down stairs & it was nice. Service was a bit slow, even by european standards.

"Tired old Hotel"

User 12/07/2016

Stayed two nights here in July. This is in a handy location close to the station and only a ten minute walk into the old historic town. These are the good points. The air con was poor and at night useless, I feel they turned it off during the night as we woke both nights and the room was like an oven. When we arrived there was a dead cockroach on the toilet floor and it was still there when we left after two nights there. The bed was terrible and was sagging in the shape of a banana. I would not stay there again.

"Very nice hotel"

lzelina, Dubai, United Arab Emirates 12/07/2016

The hotel room was clean and the staff friendly. Even though the hotel is directly across from the train station, it was not noisy and is convenient if you don't have a car. The breakfast was substantial and very good. The hotel is a short, easy walk to downtown Colmar and definitely worth seeing while in Colmar.

"Great Place to Stay in Colmar-Alsace"

Waretoonext, Southern California 10/07/2016

Was a very nice place for a small town. Across from Train Station which in big cities not so great but here it was historic and very convenient. We reserved the Contemporary Deluxe room and it was very large with outside patio, large bathroom and very quiet. Worth the extra which was minimal. We reserved parking, which was not recommended we actually only used it only twice as there is ample parking around the hotel. It was stressful to use, complex directions and very tight fit for cars and once not even a place available. Staff was friendly, but the stand out was the waiter in the restaurant Manual. Such a delight and always went above and beyond. A perfect place to stay visiting Colmar or the Alsace region only a short drive to the heart of the Alsace.

"Stay one night before proceed to Swiss Alps"

ROKMAN_MAT-ADAM, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 10/07/2016

A very comfortable room and good breakfast as well. Furthermore, the front desk girl is very helpful in arranging a taxi for my friend. The hotel is away from the highway traffic and located near to the train station. Highly recommended for a traveler.

"A nice taste of luxury"

leenabloxham, Great Dunmow, United Kingdom 09/07/2016

We stayed here for 2 days on the start of a trip down the Alsace wine route. The reception staff were really helpful with maps and advice on how to get to the old town, and about the wine route. The room was large with a huge comfortable bed, nice bathroom, safe and coffee making facilities. The air conditioning was great to keep the room cool at night. The breakfast had a good selection. Loved the coffee. There was a safe underground car park which was a little tricky to find at first and would not suit a low vehicle. It was right oppose the Station but there was no noise from the trains. All in all, an excellent stay.

"Great stay"

Redux27, New York City, New York 29/06/2016

With the colmar tgv train right next to the hotel, this hotel was a perfect choice for my wife and I. We stopped in colmar for the day and booked this hotel last minute and were not disappointed with our choice. Paid parking is downstairs from the hotel, staff is friendly, hotel bar/room service prices are very affordable and its maybe 10-15 minute walking to the old town of colmar. I highly recommend it and the building that houses this hotel itself has a lot of history. I would definitely recommend.

"Stately comfort"

epocmot, Lichfield 28/06/2016

Elegant historic hotel on the outskirts of the beautiful quaint and unique town of Colmar. Situated opposite the lovely architure of th magnificent railway station. Staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful.Well appointed rooms with comfortable beds.My room did not have a bath but a very good wet room. Only disappointment breakfast very basic. Location obviously great for station or a pleasant 20 minute walk into town.Taxi rank adjacent to station.

"Nice with character "

RPE146, Denny, United Kingdom 21/06/2016

Location I stayed here as part of a group whilst touring on my motorbike. The hotel is opposite the train station and the street is therefore busy but as the hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the town centre this is to be expected. There is parking outside but nothing secure for bikes. I was on the first floor overlooking the train station. As other reviews have pointed out this was noisy on my arrival however I found that by merely closing the window the noise became a mere whisper and no inconvenience whatsoever. An older style of hotel room which appeared to be in an older part of town. Lots of nice architecture and a nice atmosphere. Staff I spoke to various staff members during my stay and all of them were helpful courteous and polite. Rooms My room was a single occupancy double room which gave sufficient room. It was very clean with an ensuite shower. Large enough for 2 but excellent when by yourself. Free wi-fi was also available. Meals We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant as €63 for a steak would have burst our meagre budget. We found a lovely restaurant about 5 minutes walk opposite the park in the town centre. Breakfast Usual selection of meats and fruits at the buffet along with various hot options offered. Breakfast was very busy. Overall The hotel was clean tidy with lots of nice architecture and character. The staff were helpful and polite putting up with my pitiful French. If I was I the area I'd happily stay here again.

"Good location if you travel by train"

We arrived by car and hotel have parking at additional cost. For us we had a rented car by Avis and just returned the car opposite the hotel. Left by train next day and trainstation also opposite the hotel. Wifi was slow but working. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Beds in our juniorsuite was old and not good. Hotel is a bit far from Little Venice and also the center of Town.

"Neither Best nor Grand"

shokunin, London, United Kingdom 18/06/2016

We recently spent 3 nights in the Hotel Bristol, attending an event of a Londoner Livery Company. We were allocated a room in the new (re-designed?) part of the hotel. Room size was ok, but the designer of the rooms should be fired; I nearly draw blood on my hip when I turned around in the bathroom and was caught by the idiotic handles of the cupboards underneath the basin, the aluminium profiles used as handles have really sharp edges. The same idiotic design was found on the handles of the wardrobe doors, those handle protrude into the wardrobe and could easily shred delicate garments, apart from that, the wardrobe-depth was also sub-standard. One had to hang the DJ at an angel in order to close the doors. The overall finish of the place is no way four star and there is not much value for money, apart perhaps from the very generous and varied breakfast buffet. Be aware of first floor rooms, those are rather noisy during the night if one prefers to sleep with an open window. (We were unable to get the air-conditioning working; the broken light bulb in the bathroom was also not checked nor replaced during our stay.) The light switches are placed in a nearly inaccessible place behind the door, totally counter-intuitive. The room service was lacklustre to say the least, we had to ring reception three times until we finally got additional hangers delivered. One small bottle of mineral water was offered on the date of arrival, but not replaced. Would we consider to book again - never if we can avoid it!

"Exceptional Service, Friendly Staff"

User 07/06/2016

Stayed for four nights. Bed comfortable but shower room a bit cramped. Service very good, no problem getting extra coat hangers and towelling robes. Even found a bow tie for me for a formal function I was attending when I found ten minutes off I had left mine at home. Breakfast well organised and good. Very convenient location.

"Four days in Alsace"

Kenny531, San Diego, California 05/06/2016

This 4 star hotel is conveniently located opposite the railroad station and a 15 minute walk to the center of town. It has an old world charm and and a very good restaurant. Prices at both are moderate. Room was spacious and comfortable. Only problem was a/c was not on as it was early in the season. Otherwise, no complaints.

"Pleasant stay"

Coppington, Chester, United Kingdom 04/05/2016

One or two niggles one being the very small bathroom and the other being the mirror over the dressing table. You have to stand up to see in it! Tricky when applying make up. However the location is good. Right opposite the station and a nice walk through a park to centre of town. The Brasserie Restaurant In the hotel is excellent and you need to book. All in all a good find.

"Good base in the Alcase"

CotswoldPuffin, Cotswolds 30/04/2016

Loved this hotel. First impression was not great. The lobby is a bit "cold" and unwelcoming. Reception staff were friendly and helpful and took our luggage to our room (220). We had requested a bath so were given this room which faced into the courtyard with limited views but quiet. The room and bathroom were very good. A kettle plus tea and coffee provided. Flat Screen TV. A/C which was good for warming our room due to the cold weather as was the heated towel rail in the bathroom. Twin beds were excellent. Free wall safe that was easy to use. Only negative point I would make (and hence only 4 dots for the room) was the storage space. Firstly it was limited. Secondly there was no drawer space and thirdly the wardrobe was in a poor state and did not reflect the care taken in all other aspects of the room. I have commented before on this lack of space in rooms that are obviously geared up to very short stays. We stayed 5 nights and we had to live out of our cases. We picked this hotel using Booking.Com but booked through Trip Advisor when they improved their offer and included breakfast in the price. We had to pay up front (in dollars) and somehow missed in the T&C that cancellation terms were not as favourable as Booking.Com. I could not get a comparable price through Best Western. We ate breakfast in the Brasserie. Not sure whether this is a short term arrangement due to on-going alterations but it was delight to sit in this wonderful room. The breakfast (advertised at 17 Euro) was ample with lots of choice and delicious. In the evenings we also dined at the Brasserie and had excellent food. What made it all the better was the service which could not be faulted. The staff were very friendly and helpful despite the place being extremely busy. Judging by the number of local people dining our impressions were not misguided. What we liked most about this hotel was its location. Situated opposite the railway station and bus terminal you might worry but for such a location we were most impressed how pleasant the area was, even in the evenings. We used the excellent transport links from here to take buses out to the wonderful towns and villages along the Alsatian Wine Route. We used the trains to take us to Strasbourg and Mulhouse. Colmar centre is 15 minutes on foot or a short bus ride from the station to the Theatre stop. Came away thinking what a great place we had chosen!

"Great location, charming city!"

TAPS1021, Wiesbaden, Germany 04/04/2016

Received a warm welcome for a 3 night stay at the Best Western Grand Hotel Bristol in Colmar. The lobby was bustling with a large business group or two having drinks and chatting but we did not have to wait to check in. Our room was rather large and, while facing the main street and train station, we heard no noise from cars or passersby. The air conditioning was excellent......although temperatures were mild this weekend, not quite Spring weather, it was refreshing to have the air conditioner which we could control. The amenities were standard, nothing terribly exciting. The only complaint I have about the room or hotel overall is the cut out continuously and required logging in additional times. We ate in the main hotel restaurant the first night. The food and service was great, and every table was full. Parking is paid, at 15 Euros a day. Otherwise it is metered. There are cabs available across the street by the train station. The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring the wonderful town center.

We travel to Colmar, France each year for business. Once we styed at the Hotel Bristol, we decided to stay there every year. The staff is exceptional. Very helpful and professional. The hotel is super clean. The restaurant there is magnificent. The hotel is in close proximity to the train station which is great as we travel to Basel, Switzerland for Watch Fair for business.

"A superb Hotel to stay in Colmar !!!"

WorldGlutton, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 25/03/2016

Check in was a breeze on 16 March 2016 to our rooms for a night stay . Both rooms were assigned to our satisfaction on the same floor. Location of this hotel is just opposite the Colmar Main Train Station and within 15mins walking distance to the touristic spots. We did not have much time to use the Bistro or Restaurant in the hotel but breakfast served in the Hotel Coffee House was superbly great. A great hotel to stay while you are in Colmar !!!

"Convenient for the railway station and with a great brasserie"

Simon S, Zurich, Switzerland 15/03/2016

We booked a weekend away at this hotel for various reasons, firstly I wanted to show my fiancé Colmar, secondly we were coming by train, so I didn't want to schlep suitcases all over town as we were only there for 2 days, and what decided me for the Bristol was the fact that it had a highly recommended brasserie.... I booked a better class room, and though it was clean, hygenic etc, I did feel that the decor was somewhat dated, and given that we were staying in in a "traditional superior" room, I am glad that we weren't staying in a standard room, for the size. Also there wasn't a kettle in the room when we arrived, although this was remedied on our second day, without our having to request it.... The bathroom was, as I say "ok", clean, hygenic, but fairly straight forward, no frills.... Bed was very comfortable!! We arrived from Zurich, where I had been at work all day, so we dived straight into the Bistro, located in the hotel, which had been recommended to us, by friends who know Colmar extremely well, and we weren't disappointed. Good Alsace food sauer kraut, of course, and a good selection of wines, at reasonable prices in a nice ambiance, so

"Great friendly hotel"

Andy G, Edinburgh 29/02/2016

couldn't be closer to the the train station or easier to find step out of the train station and there it is, 5-10 minute walk from the old town. Clean and quiet, great restaurant and super friendly staff. Stayed for 4 nights.

"Great clean hote, close to train station and bus station to the route des vins!"

doomcookies, London, United Kingdom 31/01/2016

Best thing I love about this hotel is the location! It's right next to the train station, so if you are arriving to Colmar by train, you can just cross the road and check in! The busses to the Route des vins to visit villages such as Riquewihr, Ribeuville and Eguisheim etc is right outside the hotel and regular (buses come and go every 30 mins) It was really convenient for us to plan our journey. The only set back that it's a tad far from the Colmar Old Town, that being said it's only a 15 min walk. Not that far at all. Rooms are of good size but our room smelt like cigarette and no matter how we tried to air it all night, it did not work. It was not the best located room as it was facing the main train station, so if we kept the window open to air the room, it was too noisy to sleep, if we closed it the smell came back. Best to ask for a room change if you are unhappy with your room. The beds are ok but would prefer better pillows. Got a stiff neck when I woke up as the pillow was too flat/used. Breakfast was included and the breakfast room is pretty! It was like dining in an old French café. The breakfast selection was plenty. Wifi signal in the rooms are free of charge and strong.

"good train stop"

Debbie M, Gosport, England, United Kingdom 30/01/2016

I stayed at this hotel overnight on a group train trip. It is located across the road from railway station. The hotel room was good and although it advertised wifi in reception we did get a good signal in our room. Our group had arranged a set meal which was good and their restaurant was very popular with the locals. I also found the staff helpful.

"Very convenient and easy hotel"

User 04/01/2016

I spent 1 night in this hotel and I was satisfied with what I got. Although it is a bit old and actually not deserving 4 stars, it is still a good and convenient option for a short stay in Colmar. My main reason to select this hotel was its location right next to the train station.

"Good hotel and strategic location"

phdwhites, Leamington Spa, United Kingdom 28/12/2015

I've been here with my girlfriend a couple of days ago. We've been in Colmar to visit the christmas markets, which are great by the way. The hotel is clean (although can improve in that respect) and relatively cheap (Colmar is kind of expensive place, we paid around 260 euro for two nights). The staff is nice although not particularly friendly or proactive. We hadn't had breakfast at the hotel (which was expensive) so I cannot judge the food. The location is strategic; the hotel is just ten minutes walking distance fron the old town, where the markets are, and it is right in front of the train station. You don't need to take a bus to go to downtown. I recommend the place.

"Terrible service"

Doublerose1, London, United Kingdom 24/12/2015

Lady at reception would not let pregnant lady use the toilet. It wasn't just that - we asked very nicely and she insisted that she did not have the ability to open the toilet for us, even though she was the only member of staff. So needlessly rude and unhelpful. And on Christmas eve!

"Expensive old Hotel"

Maddy S, Mumbai (Bombay), India 22/12/2015

Stayed for 2 nights in December. Location is opposite to rly station just 15 seconds walking distance. Interior is old.Room size very compact.WC and shower area separate. Wifi fluctuating on both days. Staff at reception & Bf restaurant welcoming, friendly and hospitable. Bf was not included in the room.Buffet was ordinary but good coffee. Christmas markets area & cathedral around 10mins walking distance from hotel. No cafés near hotel. Expensive rooms with low value for money.

"Very nice, very conventient"

Amacgolf, Daytona Beach, Florida 20/12/2015

It is just opposite the train station. We had a junior suite which was fantastic. We were there to visit the Christmas Markets -a very easy 10 minute walk to the markets. We had room service for breakfast and it was perfect. Reception staff was extremely helpful.

"Visit to Christmas Market in Colmar and surrounding area."

Christine_Matthews, London, United Kingdom 07/12/2015

Went on a rail tour via Eurostar with a friend. Room was fine with two comfortable single beds. Showerroom small but OK. Wardrobe could have been a bit larger. Tea making and TV in room. Restaurant was very good if you could eat all types of food, but my travelling companion was a vegetarian and the hotel seemed to have no knowledge of what this involved and produced a meal of re-heated vegetables which were inedible. My meal of poached salmon etc. was very nice as were the other meals I had. Breakfast was fine as it was buffet style. On the other days my friend had to eat either an omelette or one one occasion, fish (not really vegetarian, but no option). The problem occurred when the meal was a fixed meal included with the tour when you didn't know what you were getting until it appeared in front of you. A shame was a bit or oganisation could have completely altered the experience.

"Great Hotel - Pity about the food"

User 04/12/2015

A good standard of hotel that I have stayed at many times. Good standard of rooms with good double glazing that keeps the train noise down in the small hours. There are two restaurants in the hotel. The over priced Michelin star one that seems to do not a great deal of trade and the Auberge, where a buffet breakfast is offered. Interesting walking route from the hotel to breakfast, passing through the fancy restaurant that seems to be separated from the Auberge by movable doors. The interesting route takes a narrow corridor where guests need to look out for emerging staff from the kitchen, with it's outward opening doors. Noted a few near misses during my stay. Pity about the breakfast, whilst there is a good selection available, the hot food is cool at best and frozen at worst. A simple thing like a microwave oven would solve the problem. As if the narrow passage is not enough of a walking hazard it is even used to store extra furniture and dishes in outward opening cupboards. Would certainly not pass the Health and Safety police in other lands.

Across the road from the rail station, bit of a walk to town but managable. Our room was large with seperate toilet and bathroom which could be closed off with a door keeping the warmth in the room. Air con good on heat and the bathroom had a heated floor, very nice! Probably the best bed I have ever slept in! Huge and lovely warm doonas/duvets, two seperate, one for each side of the bed, did not want to get out of bed in the mornings! Breakfast good, the brasserie is excellent (see review) Friendly staff. Only downside is that there is no bar in the Hotel, there is a lounge area where you can get a drink if you are lucky enough that a waiter is passing by (one day good, next day nothing), but no dedicated bar where you can relax and have a beer, bit disappointing and they lose a point for that. There is a flash restaurant attached as well but that was deserted every night we were there, the brassierie was packed out with locals who know their food. You can see Colmar in a day, nothing much to see or do in the town, Christmas markets do-able in a night.

"Amazing autumn leaves in the area around Colmar in the Alsasce region of France."

Andrew N, Aylesbury, United Kingdom 28/10/2015

The Bristol hotel is ideal for rail travellers as it is just across the road from the station. We had a comfortable room, warm and a smart and clean bathroom. The breakfast was good with a wide choice. We were on an organised rail based holiday so cannot judge the cost. It was a good base to travel from to the Voges mountains, the Black Forest and even into Switzerland. Colmar is an interesting town with a wide range of places to visit and plenty of choice of restaurants, it is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. An alternative is a trip around the town on th Dotto train, complete with an audio guide, in English.

DLkkkhee, malaysia 20/10/2015

Exit from the station and there it is _right infront to the left. How near and convenient is that! Lovely hotel with helpful pretty polite girls at the reception. Sad to say they had to bear the brunt of a hysterical guest loudly complaining about insects in their room. So we remembered to keep our balcony door closed. Comfortable bed. Clean bathroom. Coffee tea facility useful. Easy walk to the old town n back. Had dinner at a busy restaurant to the right of the hotel_ excellent foie gras. Generous portions.

"A Well Placed Hotel"

John B, London, United Kingdom 09/10/2015

We stayed at this hotel for nine nights and it was a very pleasant hotel. Its position is very good as it is just across the square from the railway station and it is also a bus hub. This meant that there were a number of buses to the historic heart of Colmar. Our room was large and airy with a fantastic view of the Vosge Mountains. The staff were cheerful and helpful although some of the Reception staff's English was little better than my French. The breakfasts were of a good quality and quantity, although on one morning the fresh fruit salad had run out by the time that we arrived for breakfast at 09.00, with breakfast being served until 10.30. Usually everything was replaced quickly. There was a Michelin 1* restaurant which we did not try due to the high prices. The bistro served excellent evening meals but was a little pricey so we had most of our evening meals at a small restaurant in the old town near the theatre. The only downside was that being near the station we were occasionaly woken by trains but this was partly our own fault as we like to sleep with a window open even though there was air conditioning in the room. The hotel was well placed if you wanted to get around by public transport, a cheap option in France. We went to Frieburg and Kayserburg, the birthplace of Albert Schweitzer by bus from right outside the hotel. We also spent a day in Strasburg using the regular and relatively cheap rail service. I would recommend the hotel and the city of Colmar to anyone who wants a holiday a little off the beaten track.

"One night in Colmar"

Susan G, Newcastle-under-Lyme, United Kingdom 02/10/2015

We stayed for one night in Colmar at this hotel, which is conveniently situated opposite the station. We were going on to Paris then Eurostar home to England following the conclusion of our holiday in Italy (Lake Garda - Hotel Desenzano). This hotel is very welcoming and oppulent. One criticism, however, is that we only had 2 "cream" containers in our room. I suppose we could have asked for more. The basin plughole needed a good scrubbing in our room (104) as there was a brown mark all the way around it. Breakfast was outstanding. Sue Godwin, Newcastle Staffs

"Gret Hotel, Fabulous service"

Mike D, Encinitas, Ca 11/09/2015

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel while on a biking tour of the region. What a great place to have 2 days. Our first excellent experiences were with the front desk staff. Both Leticia and Hanna were very helpful with the often frustrating French keyboard. We actually had to appeal to them several That evening, while dining at the hotel we encountered perhaps the best waiter that we have ever encountered. Emanuel has to be the crown prince of the wait staff. He was so pleasant and helpful and always had a huge smile on his face. We will always remember him fondly. The rooms and location of this hotel are also excellent, but the real key to our outstanding rating was the service by the staff. Ausgezeichnet indeed!!

This was a comfortable though basic hotel in a beautiful city. It was near a beautiful train station and within easy walking distance to the town centre passing by a lovely park. "Delightful one night stopover!"

Kathie S, Southampton, United Kingdom 26/08/2015

As the final night stopover after a train holiday we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel may be a little dated in places but it was warm, welcoming and provided a good evening meal in the second more relaxed dining/bar area. The place was buzzing with both tourists and local diners which is always a good sign. The food was hearty and staff were friendly allowing our group to enjoy a very relaxed final evening together. The rooms were clean and had everything you would have expected including a mini bar, some rooms had small balconies which were a pleasant addition. The proximity of the hotel to the train station was a bonus for us as we were catching an early train and meant only a walk across the road after a good breakfast. Colmar town is full of character and only a short walk from the hotel. A very good stopover!

Chung K, Hong Kong 20/08/2015

This is big room and near train station, we are 3 persons and the room have 2 sinks, decorate very good, but we lack of one glass, we call the reception, long time no reply. In room, there are many socket, is so convenient.

G_und_K, Baden, Switzerland 18/08/2015

Location - perfect for us, as we arrived by train. The fifteen minute walk to the old town is actually quite pleasant if you go through the park. Reception staff - very helpful (auf Deutsch und Englisch!) Room - We had a big one in the newer part. It was very clean. The bed was a proper double. Room decor was "interesting", but I liked it Room facilities were good with a separate bath and shower and plentiful supplies. There was a kettle, tea bags and instant coffee: a British practice that needs to spread to every continental hotel! The WiFi worked well enough when I needed, and was free. The breakfast room was busy, but I prefer that to total silence. The choice was quite extensive. However, getting to it from the reception area was a little off putting. We had an evening meal in the Brasserie, and were pleasantly surprised, so much so that we booked again for the second night. The formal restaurant is expensive. Would we stay again? - Yes.

"A little bit outdated?"

wortelboer, netherlands 17/08/2015

This must have been a hotel with "grandeur" in the past but to today standards it needs some remodelling. Lift is (very) slow and it can take a long time to take you up or down. The room on the 4th floor was rather (which means: very...) small but quiet. Also the distance to the city center is considerable.

"Oooops - 1st room double-booked, 2nd smelly, 3rd OK"

Patrick R, Dusseldorf, Germany 17/08/2015

We got it bad - the first room we got the key for was already taken by someone else who opened the door from the inside (our card was not working). The second room smelled like a Chlorine factory (impossible to stay in there, since the bathroom - origin of the odor - had no vent) so we had to ask for a third room. That was OK - nothing great one might expect from pictures/other reviews. Breakfast was the opposite of quiet and relaxed.

"Relaxing stop between Switzerland and Paris"

User 05/08/2014

We were traveling by train between Interlaken and Paris. Colmar was chosen because it has a cute city center and it was a good midway point between those cities. The Best Western was situated right next to the train station, so it was easy to transport our bags there ourselves. The rooms were good size and nicely appointed and the beds were super comfortable with fluffy down comforters. Bathrooms (with a tub) very modern and lovely. !5 minute walk to center of town. In hotel dining / bar was somewhat pricey.

"Faded grandeur"

Azzam73, London 30/05/2014

The property feels a bit tired, a bit old. Conveniently located next to the train station, ten minutes walk into the centre of Colmar. Comfortable enough but needs redecorating! Breakfast is not included, is expensive, and is underwhelming... but there's not much nearby on a Sunday other than the train station as an alternative.
