« Wish we could have stayed longer »

The hotel is old and charming but the rooms are updated. The bed was very comfortable, the pillow and bedding was great. Location is perfect for walking to all the sites. Breakfast was fantastic. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We would absolutely stay here again.

« Wish we had more time there »

This hotel is very close to the train station making it perfect for our trip. It was clean and very comfortable. The staff was helpful and spoke English very well. Loved Colmar. It is a beautiful city. We could walk everywhere we needed to go from this location.

« They Were There When We Needed Them »

My wife and I were on a genealogical research trip through Germany, France and Italy. I had reservations for the Colmar Hotel. To my embarrassment and horror I discovered I had mixed up the days on my trip itinerary and I was supposed to have checked in the day before. Dejected, my wife and I were lugging our bags up the street commiserating that it was the weekend and we were probably going to have travel back to Germany in order to find lodging. To our great fortune we wandered into the Grand Bristol and explained our situation. [Sun comes out and angels sing]. The had a room available immediately. And a wonderfully nice room it was. Clean, comfortable with a great bathtub to soak away the weariness of traveling. We were so comfortable, the service was so good that we stayed an extra day to explore more of Colmar. I especially want to thank the staff for contacting our next stop in Vitznau Switzerland and setting up conditions for our arrival while switching effortlessly between French, German and English. Thanks for being there when we needed you!!

« Would stay here again »

The hotel is right across the Colmar train station. You can get there without Google map. It is an old building with fair maintenance. Our room is not big but adequate and clean. Breakfast selection is ok. Dinning room is elegant. There is a gym but didn't have time to try. Would choose here again if I stay overnight at Colmar.

    « Not bad but I didn't get a great room »

The hotel is very convenient for the train and accessible to the motorway. There is garage parking which is handy. The staff are welcoming. I was allocated room 10. It is smart, well equipped with a decent sized bathroom. It has a small terrace with could be pleasant in the summer. Unfortunately around 5am I heard noise from other guests and movement of luggage. I think it was from the lift shaft which runs through the room. In addition someone telephoned at 0600. Probably another room would be better. Breakfast was good. Happy to stay here but not that room.

« Convenient to the train station. »

We arrived in Colmar by train, and this was a nice hotel very near the station making it convenient to get to with our bags. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself was fine (breakfast was not included so we did have to walk into town to get something in the morning). It is a little bit of a walk to the old town (15 minutes maybe), but we preferred the nearness of the train station to a hotel in the old town itself.

« Classic European midprice hotel »

We had an overnight stay in Colmar on a driving trip from Beaune to the Black Forest. The Bristol met our criteria for easy access from the freeway; secure parking and close proximity the Little Venice district. We booked a Deluxe Queen bedroom away from the street and were given a very comfortable room with a balcony in the block of rooms that had been very nicely refurbished. The color scheme was bright and inviting and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and modern. The air conditioning was quiet and efficient. The balcony was and added nice touch with flowering planter boxes. We had a 10 minute walk to the Little Venice area, that in our opinion, is the most beautiful in all Alsace! There some street venders and young people hanging around the train station but the main roads to the Little Venice is well lit and populated so we did not feel uncomfortable walking back to the hotel after dark at about 10 pm. Breakfast was typical for a mid price hotel with adequate choices and was filling. The hotel is adjacent to the railway station so that street parking, even to register at the front desk can be a challenge. We had to make a circuit around the block to get to the private parking lot but excellent instructions with pictures are provided at the front desk. The parking lot is not for the faint hearted, as the entrance is very narrow and enclosed by unforgiving walls! Unknown to us was that the annual Colmar Marathon was taking place on the morning of our departure and that the roads would close at 8:30am. We were pleased that the front desk advised us of this at check in so that we could have an early breakfast and depart before the curfew. We were really thankful that we had chosen a hotel with easy freeway access!

    « Classic style hotel »

We had two rooms for a family with interconnecting door. Hotel building is old and the style has been kept classic. The building is quite nice looking, but a some areas could use some update. Bathrooms were quite small and old. There was no long term parking next to hotel, you need to takeyour car some 200-300 m away to railway station parking area. The staff was not very friendly, but not rude either. Breakfast was at extra cost (other Best Westerns we had were breakfast included), but still not any better than other hotels. Overall we felt this hotel was average in many terms, service, premices, location, value for money.

    « Clever choice »

20 minutes of walking to the old town but other than that everything was fine. The rooms are clean and spacious and the staff is very helpful. Although it is right oppositethe train station it is a very safe neighborhood..

« Good hotel but some Customer Service training wouldn't go amiss! »

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at this hotel which, in general, we found to be pretty good. The facilities in the room were OK, it was quiet, despite being near the railway station, and the bed was comfortable. The attached restaurant (l'Auberge) was excellent (it pays to book a table for dinner as it is very popular), and this is also where breakfast was taken, nwhich was also very good. Parking underneath the hotel was convenient (book in advance to be sure of a space), and it is an easy 15 minute walk into the picturesque old town of Colmar. The only negative worth speaking about was the attitude of one of the young girls at reception who either needs to have some customer service training or find another career. After the first night we noticed that our paper cups (for coffee/tea ) and milk pots had not been replaced so on passing Reception on our way out to dinner we asked if they could replace them. The young lady behind the desk said that the paper cups and milk were only provided on the first night, so "normalement" they would not be replaced if one stayed a second night. I said that I was surprised that a hotel such as this in the Best Western chain were unable to replace a couple of paper cups and milk pots and (somewhat tongue in cheek) asked the young lady if she would be kind enough to make an exception on this occasion. She grudgingly said that she would see what she could do. Fortunately the cups and milk pots were replaced whilst we were out, but it was a pity that this young lady had behaved the way she did; perhaps she just needs some customer service training or maybe find a career where she is not in contact with the public!

    « Wonderful stay »

I agree with everything said by Pat W. I too stayed there this month and only echo what she has said. Super hotel in a great location in a lovely town. Good professional staff and excellent meals. Can't fault in any way.

    « Elegant Hotel »

We have just spent six days at this beautiful, elegant hotel. Just across the street from the railway station, the hotel is in a prime location for visiting all the lovely places in Alsace and beyond. Our room was very spacious and with the luxury of two balconies an absolute treat to sit and relax after a day sightseeing. The staff were friendly and the food was very good. We will be visiting Colmar again next year and this will be the hotel of our choice. Pat W.

    « Great Location »

Lovely hotel, friendly staff, Melanie was an exceptional staff member who made our save very enjoyable, she was very helpful. Our room was modern, there were facilities to make a hot drink, mini fridge, bathroom clean and modern.

« Great Stay in lovely hotel »

We booked a Jr. Suite to accommodate three people, and it worked out great. The room was spacious, the bathroom nice and large. We requested singles, so they separated the beds in the main bed area, and then there was a single bed tucked behind a half wall that separated itself from the main sleeping area. There was also a small sitting area, and we found it plenty of space. The room overlooked the town, so it was a beautiful view in the morning. The AC was VERY cold - worked perfectly, and could not have asked for more. Decor was fine. Beds extremely comfortable. Short walk to Colmar center. Really was a pleasant walk through the park. And directly across the street from the train station. Perfect location for those travelling by train. When people complain about room size, they really need to do research and get dimensions of rooms before complaining. If you don't want a small room, book a larger one. The breakfast was awesome. More than we could have asked for - eggs, breads, pastries, cereals, yogurts, meats, cheeses, you name it. More than filled our appetites. I am a VERY picky person when it comes to where I stay, and the Best Western Grand Hotel Bristol did not disappoint at all. Very charming outside, and it was good to see it right there after a long haul flight and train ride.

    « A bit old-fashioned but totally fine for a short stay »

The hotel itself is a bit confusing as our room was on the first floor and somehow in a different section of the hotel thus it was not very easy to navigate the coridors but once you did, our room was perfectly fine. We had a superior room so there was a patio with a seating area, the bathroom and toilet were separate, the room was really big and spacious (bed was huge as well) and everything was new and spotlessly clean. It is true that hotel feels a bit old-fashioned but this was only the case in the common areas, really no issue with the room itself (ours was no 10, maybe other sections of the building are different). For my liking the breakfast was absolutely fine and could have not wanted more but keep in mind that it is France - they definitely have a sweet tooth so a wide selection of sweet pastry and jams :) Location is also good - it's 10-15min to walk to the city centre and you pass a beautiful park on the way. The only complaint is that their garage was full so no parking was available and we had to use one of the public parking sites nearby. That was a bit costly and not so convenient but it worked just as well.

« Walking distance from city centre »

Close to the railway station, the hotel is in walking distance from the beautiful Colmar centre. We needed som service from the hotel to get maps etc from the tour operator, but the staff was a bit reluctant to help, and when the papers came, they managed to lose them. But in general, nice place to stay.

« Very handy for the Gare Colmar »

The hotel is directly over the road from the railway station so a great spot to break a journey and explore 'little Venice' in the heart of town about 20 minutes walk away. The room (222) wasn't big but had what appeared to be a recently refurbished bathroom with walk in shower. Air Con was nice and quiet as well and was at the back overlooking a yard area so was quiet at night. Breakfast was a bit disorganised but had a good variety including ready to eat, soft boiled eggs and scrambled as an alternative. Drinks if you want them are brought through from the Brasserie next door and have to be paid direct and can't go on the room bill which was very strange. If you do go by car, the car park is around the rear with an entrance off Avenue De Republique

« Avoid this terrible hotel: old, uncomfortable, basic hotel »

The hotel is really old, the rooms are very small, uncomfortable and has very small bed. The breakfast was very terrible and basic, and unfriendly staff. It looks like a 2 star hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody. We had stayed in Best Western Grand hotel in Detmold Germany before, and it was really good one. This hotel in Colmar is nothing similar to that. The breakfast was really terrible, no fresh fruit or juice, very limited choice, old and supermarket quality bread. The staff are not so friendly and if you don't speak french, they are not willing to answer your questions. In total I would say it is a 2 star hotel, and it is not worth to go for the money you pay per night.

    « Refurbishment required »

Selected this hotel whilst passing through Colmar because of its location directly opposite from the railway station. Our room on the third floor overlooking the main road and rail station was small and rather tired looking, bedding was clean as was the bathroom. After browsing the dinner menu we decided to give it a miss and later chatting to other guests it appears we made the right decision, poor service and average food.

    « Unfriendly area »

The hotel was very disappointing. We had a superior double room but I found it not to be superior at all. I had requested a double bed and had two singles pushed together. The air con was extremely noisy and the toilet was separate from the shower which was small. They left damp towels in our room one day.The bed sheets were not changed for three days and I had to request milk for the tea/coffee facilities every day and I only received two milks so if I wanted more than one tea I couldn't have one. At breakfast the staff were unfriendly, they didn't say good morning, just asked for your room number.I expected better from Best Western and would never stay here again.

« Grand Style Station Hotel! »

This traditional hotel is conveniently located opposite the train station but a 10-15 min. walk to the cozy center of Colmar. The place has limited paid parking but is surprisingly free in a lot next to the station! Our spacious air- conditioned room had a bathroom with two sinks, a shower, a separate toilet, a flat-screen TV and free WIFI. The queen size bed with its heavy all-season deck bed made it uncomfortably warm but too cool without! Breakfast was fine except for the scrambled eggs which were more suitable for a baby as they were apparently stirred too much. The restaurant has an extensive dinner menu and is quite popular with the locals. The staff at the desk is friendly and accommodating.

« AC does not work »

AC did NOT work in our room - at all. We stayed here during a heat wave in July. It was hot, hot, hot! We took 3 cold showers in one day to try and cool down. We had to ring front desk twice upon arrival to get a key card that worked. The room was pretty but, too warm to actually enjoy. The bathroom sink was clogged, dirty water was coming back up. The location was great- right across from train station. We ate at the restaurant down stairs & it was nice. Service was a bit slow, even by european standards.

    « Tired old Hotel »

Stayed two nights here in July. This is in a handy location close to the station and only a ten minute walk into the old historic town. These are the good points. The air con was poor and at night useless, I feel they turned it off during the night as we woke both nights and the room was like an oven. When we arrived there was a dead cockroach on the toilet floor and it was still there when we left after two nights there. The bed was terrible and was sagging in the shape of a banana. I would not stay there again.

    « Very nice hotel »

The hotel room was clean and the staff friendly. Even though the hotel is directly across from the train station, it was not noisy and is convenient if you don't have a car. The breakfast was substantial and very good. The hotel is a short, easy walk to downtown Colmar and definitely worth seeing while in Colmar.

« Great Place to Stay in Colmar-Alsace »

Was a very nice place for a small town. Across from Train Station which in big cities not so great but here it was historic and very convenient. We reserved the Contemporary Deluxe room and it was very large with outside patio, large bathroom and very quiet. Worth the extra which was minimal. We reserved parking, which was not recommended we actually only used it only twice as there is ample parking around the hotel. It was stressful to use, complex directions and very tight fit for cars and once not even a place available. Staff was friendly, but the stand out was the waiter in the restaurant Manual. Such a delight and always went above and beyond. A perfect place to stay visiting Colmar or the Alsace region only a short drive to the heart of the Alsace.

« Stay one night before proceed to Swiss Alps »

A very comfortable room and good breakfast as well. Furthermore, the front desk girl is very helpful in arranging a taxi for my friend. The hotel is away from the highway traffic and located near to the train station. Highly recommended for a traveler.

    « A nice taste of luxury »

We stayed here for 2 days on the start of a trip down the Alsace wine route. The reception staff were really helpful with maps and advice on how to get to the old town, and about the wine route. The room was large with a huge comfortable bed, nice bathroom, safe and coffee making facilities. The air conditioning was great to keep the room cool at night. The breakfast had a good selection. Loved the coffee. There was a safe underground car park which was a little tricky to find at first and would not suit a low vehicle. It was right oppose the Station but there was no noise from the trains. All in all, an excellent stay.

    « Great stay »

With the colmar tgv train right next to the hotel, this hotel was a perfect choice for my wife and I. We stopped in colmar for the day and booked this hotel last minute and were not disappointed with our choice. Paid parking is downstairs from the hotel, staff is friendly, hotel bar/room service prices are very affordable and its maybe 10-15 minute walking to the old town of colmar. I highly recommend it and the building that houses this hotel itself has a lot of history. I would definitely recommend.

    « Stately comfort »

Elegant historic hotel on the outskirts of the beautiful quaint and unique town of Colmar. Situated opposite the lovely architure of th magnificent railway station. Staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful.Well appointed rooms with comfortable beds.My room did not have a bath but a very good wet room. Only disappointment breakfast very basic. Location obviously great for station or a pleasant 20 minute walk into town.Taxi rank adjacent to station.

« Last evening on our trip »

Good clran hotel with nice rooms wifi , coffee facilities and air con Jad food in reataurant reasonably priced as is the wine. Overall pretty good hotel next to Colmar station. Ready for trip to Eurostar woth TGV to.Paris

    « Nice with character »

Location I stayed here as part of a group whilst touring on my motorbike. The hotel is opposite the train station and the street is therefore busy but as the hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the town centre this is to be expected. There is parking outside but nothing secure for bikes. I was on the first floor overlooking the train station. As other reviews have pointed out this was noisy on my arrival however I found that by merely closing the window the noise became a mere whisper and no inconvenience whatsoever. An older style of hotel room which appeared to be in an older part of town. Lots of nice architecture and a nice atmosphere. Staff I spoke to various staff members during my stay and all of them were helpful courteous and polite. Rooms My room was a single occupancy double room which gave sufficient room. It was very clean with an ensuite shower. Large enough for 2 but excellent when by yourself. Free wi-fi was also available. Meals We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant as €63 for a steak would have burst our meagre budget. We found a lovely restaurant about 5 minutes walk opposite the park in the town centre. Breakfast Usual selection of meats and fruits at the buffet along with various hot options offered. Breakfast was very busy. Overall The hotel was clean tidy with lots of nice architecture and character. The staff were helpful and polite putting up with my pitiful French. If I was I the area I'd happily stay here again.

« Good location if you travel by train »

We arrived by car and hotel have parking at additional cost. For us we had a rented car by Avis and just returned the car opposite the hotel. Left by train next day and trainstation also opposite the hotel. Wifi was slow but working. Breakfast was ok but nothing special. Beds in our juniorsuite was old and not good. Hotel is a bit far from Little Venice and also the center of Town.

« Neither Best nor Grand »

We recently spent 3 nights in the Hotel Bristol, attending an event of a Londoner Livery Company. We were allocated a room in the new (re-designed?) part of the hotel. Room size was ok, but the designer of the rooms should be fired; I nearly draw blood on my hip when I turned around in the bathroom and was caught by the idiotic handles of the cupboards underneath the basin, the aluminium profiles used as handles have really sharp edges. The same idiotic design was found on the handles of the wardrobe doors, those handle protrude into the wardrobe and could easily shred delicate garments, apart from that, the wardrobe-depth was also sub-standard. One had to hang the DJ at an angel in order to close the doors. The overall finish of the place is no way four star and there is not much value for money, apart perhaps from the very generous and varied breakfast buffet. Be aware of first floor rooms, those are rather noisy during the night if one prefers to sleep with an open window. (We were unable to get the air-conditioning working; the broken light bulb in the bathroom was also not checked nor replaced during our stay.) The light switches are placed in a nearly inaccessible place behind the door, totally counter-intuitive. The room service was lacklustre to say the least, we had to ring reception three times until we finally got additional hangers delivered. One small bottle of mineral water was offered on the date of arrival, but not replaced. Would we consider to book again - never if we can avoid it!

« Exceptional Service, Friendly Staff »

Stayed for four nights. Bed comfortable but shower room a bit cramped. Service very good, no problem getting extra coat hangers and towelling robes. Even found a bow tie for me for a formal function I was attending when I found ten minutes off I had left mine at home. Breakfast well organised and good. Very convenient location.

« Four days in Alsace »

This 4 star hotel is conveniently located opposite the railroad station and a 15 minute walk to the center of town. It has an old world charm and and a very good restaurant. Prices at both are moderate. Room was spacious and comfortable. Only problem was a/c was not on as it was early in the season. Otherwise, no complaints.

    « Pleasant stay »

One or two niggles one being the very small bathroom and the other being the mirror over the dressing table. You have to stand up to see in it! Tricky when applying make up. However the location is good. Right opposite the station and a nice walk through a park to centre of town. The Brasserie Restaurant In the hotel is excellent and you need to book. All in all a good find.

« Good base in the Alcase »

Loved this hotel. First impression was not great. The lobby is a bit "cold" and unwelcoming. Reception staff were friendly and helpful and took our luggage to our room (220). We had requested a bath so were given this room which faced into the courtyard with limited views but quiet. The room and bathroom were very good. A kettle plus tea and coffee provided. Flat Screen TV. A/C which was good for warming our room due to the cold weather as was the heated towel rail in the bathroom. Twin beds were excellent. Free wall safe that was easy to use. Only negative point I would make (and hence only 4 dots for the room) was the storage space. Firstly it was limited. Secondly there was no drawer space and thirdly the wardrobe was in a poor state and did not reflect the care taken in all other aspects of the room. I have commented before on this lack of space in rooms that are obviously geared up to very short stays. We stayed 5 nights and we had to live out of our cases. We picked this hotel using Booking.Com but booked through Trip Advisor when they improved their offer and included breakfast in the price. We had to pay up front (in dollars) and somehow missed in the T&C that cancellation terms were not as favourable as Booking.Com. I could not get a comparable price through Best Western. We ate breakfast in the Brasserie. Not sure whether this is a short term arrangement due to on-going alterations but it was delight to sit in this wonderful room. The breakfast (advertised at 17 Euro) was ample with lots of choice and delicious. In the evenings we also dined at the Brasserie and had excellent food. What made it all the better was the service which could not be faulted. The staff were very friendly and helpful despite the place being extremely busy. Judging by the number of local people dining our impressions were not misguided. What we liked most about this hotel was its location. Situated opposite the railway station and bus terminal you might worry but for such a location we were most impressed how pleasant the area was, even in the evenings. We used the excellent transport links from here to take buses out to the wonderful towns and villages along the Alsatian Wine Route. We used the trains to take us to Strasbourg and Mulhouse. Colmar centre is 15 minutes on foot or a short bus ride from the station to the Theatre stop. Came away thinking what a great place we had chosen!

« very central, nevertheless quite »

small bedrooms, but sufficient. Bathroom modern and perfect towel heater! all clean! staff friendly, unfortunately they had Problems with programming room Cards (otherwise would have been a five). Internet Access easy and quick. complementary water.

« Great location, charming city! »

Received a warm welcome for a 3 night stay at the Best Western Grand Hotel Bristol in Colmar. The lobby was bustling with a large business group or two having drinks and chatting but we did not have to wait to check in. Our room was rather large and, while facing the main street and train station, we heard no noise from cars or passersby. The air conditioning was excellent......although temperatures were mild this weekend, not quite Spring weather, it was refreshing to have the air conditioner which we could control. The amenities were standard, nothing terribly exciting. The only complaint I have about the room or hotel overall is the cut out continuously and required logging in additional times. We ate in the main hotel restaurant the first night. The food and service was great, and every table was full. Parking is paid, at 15 Euros a day. Otherwise it is metered. There are cabs available across the street by the train station. The hotel is in the perfect location for exploring the wonderful town center.

We travel to Colmar, France each year for business. Once we styed at the Hotel Bristol, we decided to stay there every year. The staff is exceptional. Very helpful and professional. The hotel is super clean. The restaurant there is magnificent. The hotel is in close proximity to the train station which is great as we travel to Basel, Switzerland for Watch Fair for business.

« A superb Hotel to stay in Colmar !!! »

Check in was a breeze on 16 March 2016 to our rooms for a night stay . Both rooms were assigned to our satisfaction on the same floor. Location of this hotel is just opposite the Colmar Main Train Station and within 15mins walking distance to the touristic spots. We did not have much time to use the Bistro or Restaurant in the hotel but breakfast served in the Hotel Coffee House was superbly great. A great hotel to stay while you are in Colmar !!!

« Convenient for the railway station and with a great brasserie »

We booked a weekend away at this hotel for various reasons, firstly I wanted to show my fiancé Colmar, secondly we were coming by train, so I didn't want to schlep suitcases all over town as we were only there for 2 days, and what decided me for the Bristol was the fact that it had a highly recommended brasserie.... I booked a better class room, and though it was clean, hygenic etc, I did feel that the decor was somewhat dated, and given that we were staying in in a "traditional superior" room, I am glad that we weren't staying in a standard room, for the size. Also there wasn't a kettle in the room when we arrived, although this was remedied on our second day, without our having to request it.... The bathroom was, as I say "ok", clean, hygenic, but fairly straight forward, no frills.... Bed was very comfortable!! We arrived from Zurich, where I had been at work all day, so we dived straight into the Bistro, located in the hotel, which had been recommended to us, by friends who know Colmar extremely well, and we weren't disappointed. Good Alsace food sauer kraut, of course, and a good selection of wines, at reasonable prices in a nice ambiance, so

    « Great friendly hotel »

couldn't be closer to the the train station or easier to find step out of the train station and there it is, 5-10 minute walk from the old town. Clean and quiet, great restaurant and super friendly staff. Stayed for 4 nights.

« Great clean hote, close to train station and bus station to the route des vins! »

Best thing I love about this hotel is the location! It's right next to the train station, so if you are arriving to Colmar by train, you can just cross the road and check in! The busses to the Route des vins to visit villages such as Riquewihr, Ribeuville and Eguisheim etc is right outside the hotel and regular (buses come and go every 30 mins) It was really convenient for us to plan our journey. The only set back that it's a tad far from the Colmar Old Town, that being said it's only a 15 min walk. Not that far at all. Rooms are of good size but our room smelt like cigarette and no matter how we tried to air it all night, it did not work. It was not the best located room as it was facing the main train station, so if we kept the window open to air the room, it was too noisy to sleep, if we closed it the smell came back. Best to ask for a room change if you are unhappy with your room. The beds are ok but would prefer better pillows. Got a stiff neck when I woke up as the pillow was too flat/used. Breakfast was included and the breakfast room is pretty! It was like dining in an old French café. The breakfast selection was plenty. Wifi signal in the rooms are free of charge and strong.

    « good train stop »

I stayed at this hotel overnight on a group train trip. It is located across the road from railway station. The hotel room was good and although it advertised wifi in reception we did get a good signal in our room. Our group had arranged a set meal which was good and their restaurant was very popular with the locals. I also found the staff helpful.

« Very convenient and easy hotel »

I spent 1 night in this hotel and I was satisfied with what I got. Although it is a bit old and actually not deserving 4 stars, it is still a good and convenient option for a short stay in Colmar. My main reason to select this hotel was its location right next to the train station.

« Good hotel and strategic location »

I've been here with my girlfriend a couple of days ago. We've been in Colmar to visit the christmas markets, which are great by the way. The hotel is clean (although can improve in that respect) and relatively cheap (Colmar is kind of expensive place, we paid around 260 euro for two nights). The staff is nice although not particularly friendly or proactive. We hadn't had breakfast at the hotel (which was expensive) so I cannot judge the food. The location is strategic; the hotel is just ten minutes walking distance fron the old town, where the markets are, and it is right in front of the train station. You don't need to take a bus to go to downtown. I recommend the place.

    « Terrible service »

Lady at reception would not let pregnant lady use the toilet. It wasn't just that - we asked very nicely and she insisted that she did not have the ability to open the toilet for us, even though she was the only member of staff. So needlessly rude and unhelpful. And on Christmas eve!

    « Expensive old Hotel »

Stayed for 2 nights in December. Location is opposite to rly station just 15 seconds walking distance. Interior is old.Room size very compact.WC and shower area separate. Wifi fluctuating on both days. Staff at reception & Bf restaurant welcoming, friendly and hospitable. Bf was not included in the room.Buffet was ordinary but good coffee. Christmas markets area & cathedral around 10mins walking distance from hotel. No cafés near hotel. Expensive rooms with low value for money.

« Very nice, very conventient »

It is just opposite the train station. We had a junior suite which was fantastic. We were there to visit the Christmas Markets -a very easy 10 minute walk to the markets. We had room service for breakfast and it was perfect. Reception staff was extremely helpful.

« Visit to Christmas Market in Colmar and surrounding area. »

Went on a rail tour via Eurostar with a friend. Room was fine with two comfortable single beds. Showerroom small but OK. Wardrobe could have been a bit larger. Tea making and TV in room. Restaurant was very good if you could eat all types of food, but my travelling companion was a vegetarian and the hotel seemed to have no knowledge of what this involved and produced a meal of re-heated vegetables which were inedible. My meal of poached salmon etc. was very nice as were the other meals I had. Breakfast was fine as it was buffet style. On the other days my friend had to eat either an omelette or one one occasion, fish (not really vegetarian, but no option). The problem occurred when the meal was a fixed meal included with the tour when you didn't know what you were getting until it appeared in front of you. A shame was a bit or oganisation could have completely altered the experience.

« Great Hotel - Pity about the food »

A good standard of hotel that I have stayed at many times. Good standard of rooms with good double glazing that keeps the train noise down in the small hours. There are two restaurants in the hotel. The over priced Michelin star one that seems to do not a great deal of trade and the Auberge, where a buffet breakfast is offered. Interesting walking route from the hotel to breakfast, passing through the fancy restaurant that seems to be separated from the Auberge by movable doors. The interesting route takes a narrow corridor where guests need to look out for emerging staff from the kitchen, with it's outward opening doors. Noted a few near misses during my stay. Pity about the breakfast, whilst there is a good selection available, the hot food is cool at best and frozen at worst. A simple thing like a microwave oven would solve the problem. As if the narrow passage is not enough of a walking hazard it is even used to store extra furniture and dishes in outward opening cupboards. Would certainly not pass the Health and Safety police in other lands.

Across the road from the rail station, bit of a walk to town but managable. Our room was large with seperate toilet and bathroom which could be closed off with a door keeping the warmth in the room. Air con good on heat and the bathroom had a heated floor, very nice! Probably the best bed I have ever slept in! Huge and lovely warm doonas/duvets, two seperate, one for each side of the bed, did not want to get out of bed in the mornings! Breakfast good, the brasserie is excellent (see review) Friendly staff. Only downside is that there is no bar in the Hotel, there is a lounge area where you can get a drink if you are lucky enough that a waiter is passing by (one day good, next day nothing), but no dedicated bar where you can relax and have a beer, bit disappointing and they lose a point for that. There is a flash restaurant attached as well but that was deserted every night we were there, the brassierie was packed out with locals who know their food. You can see Colmar in a day, nothing much to see or do in the town, Christmas markets do-able in a night.

    « Great location,excellent service.. »

This well run hotel has a good mix of modern and classic décor. It offers well presented rooms within walking distance of the town centre and across the road from the railway station. The staff are polite and friendly, the breakfast the best we ate this summer throughout Europe. We have already booked to return next year..

« Amazing autumn leaves in the area around Colmar in the Alsasce region of France. »

The Bristol hotel is ideal for rail travellers as it is just across the road from the station. We had a comfortable room, warm and a smart and clean bathroom. The breakfast was good with a wide choice. We were on an organised rail based holiday so cannot judge the cost. It was a good base to travel from to the Voges mountains, the Black Forest and even into Switzerland. Colmar is an interesting town with a wide range of places to visit and plenty of choice of restaurants, it is only a 10 minute walk from the hotel. An alternative is a trip around the town on th Dotto train, complete with an audio guide, in English.

    « Can't beat the location. »

Exit from the station and there it is _right infront to the left. How near and convenient is that! Lovely hotel with helpful pretty polite girls at the reception. Sad to say they had to bear the brunt of a hysterical guest loudly complaining about insects in their room. So we remembered to keep our balcony door closed. Comfortable bed. Clean bathroom. Coffee tea facility useful. Easy walk to the old town n back. Had dinner at a busy restaurant to the right of the hotel_ excellent foie gras. Generous portions.

    « A Well Placed Hotel »

We stayed at this hotel for nine nights and it was a very pleasant hotel. Its position is very good as it is just across the square from the railway station and it is also a bus hub. This meant that there were a number of buses to the historic heart of Colmar. Our room was large and airy with a fantastic view of the Vosge Mountains. The staff were cheerful and helpful although some of the Reception staff's English was little better than my French. The breakfasts were of a good quality and quantity, although on one morning the fresh fruit salad had run out by the time that we arrived for breakfast at 09.00, with breakfast being served until 10.30. Usually everything was replaced quickly. There was a Michelin 1* restaurant which we did not try due to the high prices. The bistro served excellent evening meals but was a little pricey so we had most of our evening meals at a small restaurant in the old town near the theatre. The only downside was that being near the station we were occasionaly woken by trains but this was partly our own fault as we like to sleep with a window open even though there was air conditioning in the room. The hotel was well placed if you wanted to get around by public transport, a cheap option in France. We went to Frieburg and Kayserburg, the birthplace of Albert Schweitzer by bus from right outside the hotel. We also spent a day in Strasburg using the regular and relatively cheap rail service. I would recommend the hotel and the city of Colmar to anyone who wants a holiday a little off the beaten track.

« One night in Colmar »

We stayed for one night in Colmar at this hotel, which is conveniently situated opposite the station. We were going on to Paris then Eurostar home to England following the conclusion of our holiday in Italy (Lake Garda - Hotel Desenzano). This hotel is very welcoming and oppulent. One criticism, however, is that we only had 2 "cream" containers in our room. I suppose we could have asked for more. The basin plughole needed a good scrubbing in our room (104) as there was a brown mark all the way around it. Breakfast was outstanding. Sue Godwin, Newcastle Staffs

    « Good Central Hotel »

This was a very welcoming hotel, close to the railway station and a short walk from the main attractions in Colmar. Excellent rooms and very friendly staff. Good secure underground parking. Breakfast was excellent.

« An excellent night stop »

We stayed one night at this hotel which travelling by rail. The hotel is right opposite the railway station, the staff most helpful with good spoken English. The room was clean and comfortable. A nice buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. Although not in the centre of Colmar it is a pleasant stroll 15 minute to the old (and most interesting) town centre.

« Gret Hotel, Fabulous service »

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel while on a biking tour of the region. What a great place to have 2 days. Our first excellent experiences were with the front desk staff. Both Leticia and Hanna were very helpful with the often frustrating French keyboard. We actually had to appeal to them several That evening, while dining at the hotel we encountered perhaps the best waiter that we have ever encountered. Emanuel has to be the crown prince of the wait staff. He was so pleasant and helpful and always had a huge smile on his face. We will always remember him fondly. The rooms and location of this hotel are also excellent, but the real key to our outstanding rating was the service by the staff. Ausgezeichnet indeed!!

    « Great service & Comfortable »

This was a comfortable though basic hotel in a beautiful city. It was near a beautiful train station and within easy walking distance to the town centre passing by a lovely park. The woman who checked us in was friendly and informative. The wifi was good throughout the hotel and the breakfast choices were many, although the wait staff could have been friendlier.

« Delightful one night stopover! »

As the final night stopover after a train holiday we weren't sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel may be a little dated in places but it was warm, welcoming and provided a good evening meal in the second more relaxed dining/bar area. The place was buzzing with both tourists and local diners which is always a good sign. The food was hearty and staff were friendly allowing our group to enjoy a very relaxed final evening together. The rooms were clean and had everything you would have expected including a mini bar, some rooms had small balconies which were a pleasant addition. The proximity of the hotel to the train station was a bonus for us as we were catching an early train and meant only a walk across the road after a good breakfast. Colmar town is full of character and only a short walk from the hotel. A very good stopover!

    « big room »

This is big room and near train station, we are 3 persons and the room have 2 sinks, decorate very good, but we lack of one glass, we call the reception, long time no reply. In room, there are many socket, is so convenient.

    « Ausgezeichnet »

Location - perfect for us, as we arrived by train. The fifteen minute walk to the old town is actually quite pleasant if you go through the park. Reception staff - very helpful (auf Deutsch und Englisch!) Room - We had a big one in the newer part. It was very clean. The bed was a proper double. Room decor was "interesting", but I liked it Room facilities were good with a separate bath and shower and plentiful supplies. There was a kettle, tea bags and instant coffee: a British practice that needs to spread to every continental hotel! The WiFi worked well enough when I needed, and was free. The breakfast room was busy, but I prefer that to total silence. The choice was quite extensive. However, getting to it from the reception area was a little off putting. We had an evening meal in the Brasserie, and were pleasantly surprised, so much so that we booked again for the second night. The formal restaurant is expensive. Would we stay again? - Yes.

    « A little bit outdated? »

This must have been a hotel with "grandeur" in the past but to today standards it needs some remodelling. Lift is (very) slow and it can take a long time to take you up or down. The room on the 4th floor was rather (which means: very...) small but quiet. Also the distance to the city center is considerable.

    « Oooops - 1st room double-booked, 2nd smelly, 3rd OK »

We got it bad - the first room we got the key for was already taken by someone else who opened the door from the inside (our card was not working). The second room smelled like a Chlorine factory (impossible to stay in there, since the bathroom - origin of the odor - had no vent) so we had to ask for a third room. That was OK - nothing great one might expect from pictures/other reviews. Breakfast was the opposite of quiet and relaxed.

    « Wonderful staff service! »

We stayed for 2 nights in this beautiful town. Surprisingly hotel is just opposite to train station. You may feel convenient to travel nearby towns like Riquewihr or wineyards as bus stops and taxi...

« Relaxing stop between Switzerland and Paris »

We were traveling by train between Interlaken and Paris. Colmar was chosen because it has a cute city center and it was a good midway point between those cities. The Best Western was situated right next to the train station, so it was easy to transport our bags there ourselves. The rooms were good size and nicely appointed and the beds were super comfortable with fluffy down comforters. Bathrooms (with a tub) very modern and lovely. !5 minute walk to center of town. In hotel dining / bar was somewhat pricey.

    « Find the SPA/Fitness room »

We had a greate stay in the Grand Hotel. It can be a little difficult to find the SPA/fitness area, but you must! We had it all for your self, it seems brand new. It have terrace with a greate view a perfect spot for relaxing.

    « Faded grandeur »

The property feels a bit tired, a bit old. Conveniently located next to the train station, ten minutes walk into the centre of Colmar. Comfortable enough but needs redecorating! Breakfast is not included, is expensive, and is underwhelming... but there's not much nearby on a Sunday other than the train station as an alternative.
