"GREAT TIME- BLANCA AT RECEPTION MADE IT 5 STARS"

5
30/04/2018

Having gone to Colima a few times, I was very happy with this hotel. I would have given it 4 stars, but a Lady named Blanca at check-in made it five stars. She seemed to be very interested in making sure we knew what we needed to know and was very professional and pleasant. Later she was great at recommending places to eat. Why would I have given it 4 stars? The shower, you have to step into the shower to turn on the water and you get soaked by the time you pop out. The room was great and comfortable, we slept great! All the staff was friendly and accommodating and the room was very nice. Great time and we will make this our hotel from now on when in Colima.

"Charming hotel in great location"

A refurbished hotel with a beautiful courtyard in the centre, located on the town's main plaza. The plaza is full of life, from families enjoying a walk, to a band playing and couples dancing to amazing wild life with birdsong. I opted for a room facing the square and although a little noisy (which we were told about), it was lovely to look out over the plaza whether day or night. The room was lovely with good beds and cotton sheets. Big luxurious towels in the bathroom and the room was spotlessly clean. Staff were really helpful and just couldn't do enough. Restaurant on the plaza was a delight with live entertainment each day - food could be a bit better with greater choice though and it's the only negative comment I would offer about this hotel.

"Poor Restaurant Food"

28/02/2018

We only ate at the Restaurant; Good service but the salad and burger were poor. Salad was brown and bun was soggy. They did replace the lettuce. This should never be served in a best western Franchise. Beer mugs were cold. Good shade close to busy road but pleasant enough with plant barrier

The hotel has 19th. Century charm but very 21 st. Century, the bed was very confortable and the sheets were very thick.the only problem is that they did not honour a stay 3 nights, pay for 2.the front desk was courteous but said that the promotion was finished in January,I showed them that it was on their web site in February when I made the reservation.i called Best Western l'international and they offered me their cheapest nightly rate, the hotel refused to accept their mistake

Super clean, friendly staff. View of the square from the room. Access to restaurants etc. in the square. Noise not a factor. No cigarette smoke smell. Fantastic secure parking. Definitely where we would stay again. Terraza bar on the rooftop with great view of the plaza. We did not eat here but they say it serves local food, it's very casual.

"Hotel located in a busy area, but the hotel manages to keep a quiet environment."

21/01/2018

My family and I, stayed at Hotel Ceballos for 3 nights. The surrounding area is busy with a plaza, stores, and bars within the same block. Although it was fairly busy outside all day long, once you set foot at the hotel, it was time for tranquility. The pool was in good shape, and the rooms were okay in size. I will definitely go back in the future.

We've been driving through out Mexico for 12 weeks now, we decided to try Colima for Christmas, as it was between where we were, Zihuatanajo and where we were invited to for New year's, Manzanillo. The choice could not have been better. We booked here for 6 nights, we were in a comfy and very quiet room for the first few nights, the for.t desk offered to move us to a room overlooking the central plaza for our remaining nights. This room also comfy gave us a great little balcony to watch the crowds nd enjoy the ambience of the square. Loved it. Add in top linens, professional and friendly staff, a clean and comfy pool that was rarely used by others and great restaurants in and around the hotel and it was a. Exceptional stay. We highly recommend.

"Treated Like Royalty"

26/12/2017

We were made to feel special by everyone on staff at this beautiful, historic hotel. We were presented with a cold non-alcohol drink made from 3 local juices (grapefruit, orange & pineapple), escorted to our room & informed of the hotel amenities by Alex, who spoke perfect English. He was so helpful & more than willing to answer our many questions about the sites to see in Colima, food, history - he knew his city and was proud of what it had to offer. He noticed our interest in clothing from the hotel shop and invited us to take anything that interested us to our hotel room to try on - like I said, we were treated like Royalty! We took him up on his offer and so enjoyed our shopping spree without leaving our hotel room. But we did continue to shop in the many stores on the street right beside the hotel and we toured several historic buildings also right by the hotel. The town square (park) is right across the street and numerous cafes along the streets around the square. The hotel buffet breakfast is so worthwhile - cold breakfast items, personalized hot breakfast items cooked by a chef in front of you, as well as Mexican dishes to try. We were allowed to leave our vehicle in their secure parking lot the whole day after checking out, so that we could continue to explore the area. This parking lot was dead easy to find by the way. We just had to drive around the block and watch for the Best Western Parking Lot sign. The hotel has a pool but we didn't use it. There are comfortable seating areas sprinkled throughout the hotel where one can sit quietly to read or snooze. You get a feeling of old world architecture with high ceilings, rooms and hallways along the outer edges creating a centre square where the breakfast is now served. Our room was clean and comfortable with french doors opening onto a small one foot balcony overlooking the square. As others have stated, if you go to bed early, you need to wear ear plugs but if you choose to experience a later dining hour like the Mexicans, you will be in sync and be retiring to bed at the same time with no need for those ear plugs. This was a wonderful hotel and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to explore central Colima.

"Grande dame of Colima...the place to stay"

Couldn´t be more central or historical....stay here if you´re visiting the capital. Old-time hotel kept up well. Some inner-rooms on hallway a bit dark, but all in fine condition. Corridors that open out on to main-square view. Good gift shop, pool, parking entrance on street behind hotel connects to hotel. Pleasant staff. One elderly woman at desk had far-better suggestions than the tourism office did. Outside/inside restaurand with local dishes. Ice-cream/popsicle/ice-lolly shop a few doors away under the arcade. Cathedral, town hall, regional museum just steps away. University pinacoteca a block away. Pleasant stay.

Exceptional service. Many staff members speak English and will assist with any questions concerns you may have. The restaurants were amazing.... food was delicious so much so that my teenagers always wanted to eat there. Location is fantastic with shopping right there and entertainment in the gazebo in the park in front of the hotel. I lived in Colima for 3 years and always wanted to stay at this hotel. It met my expectations!! The only issue we found was that the beds are very hard/firm... however it did not keep us from having a great night sleep. Rooms were clean and staff was very professional and friendly. I do not hesitate in recommending this hotel as we not only felt safe but were treated like royalty!

"A Wonderful Experience!"

17/06/2017

I was very excited about my trip to Colima and was looking forward to staying at Hotel Ceballos. I booked a king suite and the room was beautiful - I stayed for 3 nights. Unfortunately I was expecting a safe in the room as that was part of the room's description on the hotel's website, so I ended up lugging my laptop and iPad around with me whenever I left the room. I would knock of 1/2 of a star for this, but I was okay with not having a safe as it helped me to burn a few extra calories while I was out and about. There was always something going on in the main square across from the hotel which created a great vibe day and night. It was a pleasure to see happy people enjoying themselves and hearing laughter from all ages. Although my hometown is nothing like this, I felt at home here. The hotel's service was excellent with a friendly staff. The bed was comfortable and the room spacious. It was also great having a mini fridge in the room for leftovers and to have cold beverages on hand. The air conditioner worked well. Do not worry if you do not speak Spanish. My Spanish is not fabulous, but the hotel was always very accommodating and had someone who spoke English just literally a bell ring away. Even the guests were friendly and helpful with translations. I think there is just something so friendly in the air there. :o) When it was time to check out, I really did not want to leave. The people of Colima are warm and friendly and always make you feel at home. I look forward to returning and will stay at Hotel Ceballos again.

"Weak Internet Signal"

18/04/2017

One of the reasons I stayed at this hotel was because there good reviews about their internet connection. I told the receptionist when I was at the lobby if the connection will be better in the room and she said that she was going to turn off the router and turn it back on. When I was in the room the signal was even weaker.

06/07/2016

My spouse and I stayed at this hotel for one week in the summer. I am an American who had never visited Mexico outside of the beach tourist destinations (Cabo, Matzatlan, Acapulco, etc.). The weather was hot and humid but our room, with its room air conditioning unit performed flawlessly! The room was very clean upon arrival and it stayed that way with the daily maid service. The room also had a very comfortable bed and an adequate bathroom with shower. The Internet connection was excellent for Mexico with a cable modem/wireless router set up in our room. Downstairs was a restaurant with the best breakfast in town for about $16 USD total for 2 buffet breakfasts with hand made tortillas, an omelet bar and fresh squeezed juices. Simply excellent!! The staff was very helpful and gracious. I will definitely stay here again in my future visits. Pictures coming soon.

A lovely colonial style hotel just off the main town square. Very friendly and helpful staff with many speaking English. The hotel is well maintained, clean and quiet if you ask for a inside room. The only draw back to a inside room is: with the design of the building inside rooms have no windows looking to the outside, windowed rooms only face the main square and the busy road. Breakfast buffet is available at a additional cost. The swimming pool on the roof was out of service.

"The best of Colima at Hotel's doorstep"

5
18/04/2016

Hotel is older property but beautifully maintained filled w antiques and modern hotel rooms. One of the better hotel fitness rooms and a roof top pool, very small but nice place to cool off. Requested a room away from Cathedral Bells and the nightclub at the back of hotel. The room we received was just what we requested with little noise, despite the many cathedral bells and Saturday night activities of the nightclub. Has a breakfast buffet on Sunday mornings, but choose the loggia for breakfast on Monday morning with live music. Also had live music on Saturday evening. The hotel is across from main plaza, with a nice bandstand and beautiful trees, that were in bloom in April. From roof top we could watch and listen to the local orchestra, watch break-dancing and the bell ringers on Sunday evening while watching the sunset and the Volcano smoke.

"You probably want to stay here..."

28/03/2016

I paid about $54 per night for four nights. Credit cards accepted. My standard room was small. Bathroom small, too. Very clean. Strong A/C and wifi. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Ice machine--a rarity in Mexico. Computer terminals in the lobby. Good restaurant onsite. Located next to the Cathedral, the tourist office, and the museum. Nice staff. Close to banks and an Oxxo. Small pool, big terrace, and decent gym... If I'd paid ten bucks per night less I'd be really happy...but if you're a non-backpacker gringo who wants comfort and amenities, you should probably stay here...

"Great facility !"

20/03/2016

When you arrive in the centre of town, and on checking in are handed a great, fresh, cold fruit drink, can it get any better ? Yes there's street sounds, music, kids, but, it isn't an old folks home you've checked into. This' a stay in a piece of history, in a really cool,, clean, friendly, musical, safe, fun place. Hotel food is great, the staff really friendly, most important, the beds are comfortable.

"Great location on central Jardin de Libertad plaza. Excellent staff and reasonable rates"

15/03/2016

Although now part of the Best Western chain this hotel remtains much of its charm and atmosphere from its recent ownership by the Cebellos family. It sits along one side of the plaza, with a streetside outdoor terrace and cafe. On arrival we were directed to the car park at the rear of the hotel with access directly to the reception lobby. As we checked in we were offered a citrus cocktail and cool face cloths - very refreshing. Check in was smooth and efficient. We were shown to our rooms by a friendly and knowledgeable concierge. We had reserved a king bed room ($115 CDN). It was at the front of the hotel with a Juliette balcony overlooking the plaza. It was average size with a tiny hallway which had ample closet space and a small bathroom. The shower worked well and the bed was comfortable. The menu in the outside cafe was unremarkable but the food and service were good. Next day, the buffet "brunch" was 120 pesos each, most of the selections were lunch related but it did have fresh juice and an "egg" station serving omelettes with bacon etc. The only negatives were the standard room ($100 CDN) booked by our travelling companions, which had just one double bed. It was an interior room so had no windows - only a mural with a "window view" painted on the wall. The other disappointment was the pool which is really just an unheated hot tub on the roof. But the rooftop is well worth a visit as it affords excellent views of the plaza and a great photo opp of the volcano which was smoking during our stay.

"Fantastic"

5
13/03/2016

We stayed here 3 nights and had a great room with two small balconies overlooking the street below and Cathedral. A breakfast buffet costs about 130 pesos and has lots of great food. 16 foot tall ceilings (I estimate) in a classical 1861 building. Small pool on the rooftop and free protected parking around back The staff was helpful and friendly.

"Stay here if you are in Colima"

"Hotel with lots of character"

25/01/2016

This is a very old hotel that used to be a huge Hacienda owned by the Ceballos family. It is very well located in front of the Jardin de Libertad in centertown. We had a great view from our room that had a Juliet balcony to view all the action going on below us in and around the park. We chose this hotel for the secure parking for our big motorcycle. The parking was easily accessed from the road in the back of the hotel. When we returned after going out for supper, there was a chain blocking the entrance and a guard had to let us in so we felt safe leaving the motorbike in the parking. We booked our room via the internet and elected to use the free night we had earned from previous stays at Best Western Hotels. We booked a king bed. At the front desk from we arrived we were told that this room was not available. They showed us to a room with one double and one single that had been a smoker room. We asked for another non-smoking room. We were showed another room with 2 double beds facing the plaza so we accepted that one as at least it smelled good. In the US and Canada we usually get breakfast included with our room but this was not included at this hotel. We did have a wonderful breakfast at the hotel in the morning which cost us about 180pesos for the two of us. A stroll through the corridors of the hotel showed us many old photos of Colima and the surrounding area.

Highly recommend the Hotel Ceballos. It is great value and satisifactory in every way. Centrally located with a good cafe and restaurant, beautifully decorated lobby and common areas, rooftop terrace with spectacular views and a small dipping pool, this hotel is amongst the best I have stayed in. We three arrived at the square after a 28mex$ fixed fair taxi from the coach station (buy from kiosk for zona rosa/cathedral) on Friday 18/12 at 18:00. We debated whether to try this or he nearby other cheaper hotel in a backstreet (Buena Aventura or Los Amigos). We ventured into this imposing and beautiful hotel reception expecting the highest of prices being BW. How surprised I was by the offer for squeezing to of us into a double room with a square view for 1378mex$ (£54)! Just for one night! We were shown two rooms by the porter (spoke good English again) with a view to an extra bed in a larger side room (not good room view but nice room). Beautiful high ornately coved ceilings. The porter showed us the gym, terrace, reading space and pool overlooking the cathedral and at a point the erupting volcano! Great! Sunset was imminent and all we wNtee to do was check in at that price and jump into the pool at sunset! Of the two choices we chose the front room 123 almost above reception. Great view of cathedral with cultural festival on nearby stage simultaneously with a We rejected the extra bed as large beds more than adequate for two Brits! We were offered the same rate for the second night....still debating depending on amount of sleep we get. We paid for the night and were offered fruit juices and cool damp towels to clean our faces and hands, nice touch! We kept the juices for some left over special water to have by the pool soon! Ice was available round the corner in a kitchenette with coffee and tea served by a hot water dispenser. Two bins for rubbish! Recycling at last! Overnight Friday to Saturday: As it was a Friday on a regional capital we expected late noise so earplugs at the ready! Regular cafes and restaurants tended to shut st 10:30 but the square kept on going! There were also a surfeit of bars buzzing away till 02:00 (ear plugs in so faintly detected). Lots of venues had live musicians serenading and performing till about 23:30. At around midnight a stampede of motorbikers careered along the road outside, one on a pavement. Deafening and the police followed helplessly. The same happened in South London at Halloween with quad bikes and stunt riders so it was like home ;-) Great 30-60mex$ crepes in the tiny 'Favorita' kiosk at the end of the road in the colonnades opposite the cathedral. Mexican sweet teeth enjoy the sweet crepe, even with savoury filling! My friend's teeth could not handle it! He expected savoury throughout. Younger crowd bar at far end of building had a live band in the gallery into early hours and at about 01:00 there seemed to be a party of revellers singing their heads off to an annoying chorus! Ear plugs in!!!! See pics at 01:45! The hotel cafe musicians almost beneath also stayed playing till 23:45. Cathedral wedding in progress (reception turned out to be in hotel and party on terrace right above us but no noise in room at 1:45 despite six younger guests left over singing very loud karaoke almost directly above! No mosquitos were detected at any time! View of Xmas decorations at night were nice. Thick well hung and engineered curtains kept light out. Single glazed balcony doors were built for horse drawn carriage noise! No fireworks (as is usual in Mexico, even kids throwing them around!) on Friday night, quite a relief! At about 23:00 the wifi crashed (for three out of four of our devices!) very annoying! Full signal but no comms! It eventually came on at midnight. Saturday night Internet is so erratic! Maybe it cannot cope with the volume of traffic as all the younger crowd seem to be on their devices. I crashed at 01:50 to a firm bed with a single sheet, although too much as hot but not as humid as Manzanillo. The AC was not needed. The last bells heard faintly through the earplugs were at 04:00 and the first morning ones at 06:00 on a Saturday. Nothing serious. Breakfast looked good (see pic) but we were happy with the free coffee (Nescafé per usual sashets and coffeemate - Nestle get everywhere). Typing this on the balcony in the morning sun with my coffee and coach biscuits (forget the soggy tasteless sandwiches of Primera Plus).....Lovely! I lost my room entry card and they replaced it free of charge with no hassle! We were so impressed we stayed three nights on all (at original rate over a busying weekend). Saturday night was busy outside again, ear plugs sorted that! I slept through the bells which were not particularly early for the third Sunday of advent. We swam at midday during the glorious pealing! You can see the campanogist guys working the bells in front of them on the tower! I hope they have earplugs! They certainly have muscles! Spectacular! If people complain about early bells find another back room in a catholic country! Ditto for 5am prayers in a Muslim country! Or just get earplugs and enjoy the view! Sunday to Monday the bells started at 7 no problem. The boom box car system on the silver beetle just passing at 07:26 was louder! Shower was strong and hot quickly. I added a few Xmas pics too. If you can make the music festival the evening performances are a must! A tenor then a kletzma band on Saturday. Orchestra and kids choir on Sunday. Square was packed! We never had breakfast or ate in the hotel. We went to El Charco de la Hiquera twice as the mole was soooo good! We also found a small cheerful and tasty courtyard place close by eastwards up the back road, past the rainbow umbrella (cute men's undies shop!) called Alcuiz, not listed but on FB.

We stayed one night in this hotel . It's a wonderful atmospheric building . Full of charm . The rooms are basic but ok . Nothing fancy obviously . Our room overlooked the Square which was great but a little noisy at night . If you need quiet ask for an internal room . A nice glass of grapefruit juice in arrival and charming staff - as always in Mexico . There's a small pool on the roof which had an amazing view of the cathedral . We even used the gym ! All in all , we would stay again .

The hotel is located right at Colima's main square. It has the charme of an old hacienda with a lot of tiles and nice hallways. The room I had, had a window onto the square. In front of my door was a sitting area with sofas and chairs (that would turn out very noisy at night). At night the square is buzzing, but the windows are so old, that you actually feel like you're participating instead of lying in your bed. Also a group of people sat down almost at midnight and had a passionate discussion. The door is actually like cardboard...so participation in the discussion is guaranteed. The breakfast was not included which is a shame for the price of the night. I ate in the hotel coffee and it was OK. The terrace is nice with a view over the square and the volcano.

"Old fashioned in the good sense of the word"

We arrived at 12.30 expecting to have to wait until later to check in but were allowed into our room immediately, which is a rare welcome surprise. We upgraded to a room overlooking the colorful plaza and the basilica which was brighter and more cheerful than the rear rooms. The hotel is old-fashioned in the good sense of the word with long cavernous marble floored halls with local art on the walls. Rooms are high ceilinged with efficient air-conditioning and good wifi. There is a lot of traffic noise, and cathedral bells and clocks and music from the plaza until late but this is all part of the Mexico experience and should not be a cause for complaint. Food in the sidewalk restaurant is uninspiring but the waiters are friendly and efficient. Buffet breakfast is accompanied by an elderly lady pianist. All in all a delightful and very old Mexico atmosphere.

This hotel is a classic, albeit westernized I assume to meet Best Western criteria. The hallways, the stairwells, and the doors are all what you would expect in a grand old hotel and I felt the elegance it held in it's day. Keeping a low voice seemed natural in these dignified spaces. The rooms vary - we were three couples and our rooms were all different. One couple scored a suite with balcony and a lovely view. The other two couples had small rooms with no opening windows and no view although perfectly functional for the time we were there. It would be worth exploring options when booking. The hotel is right off the square and has a lovely patio restaurant from which you can do some great people watching while enjoying a drink or some food.
