Description

Please note: Due to Government Guidelines some hotel services may be limited during your visit. Built opposite Chester station to serve first-class rail passengers, The Queen Hotel Chester, BW Premier Collection has an illustrious past. This magnificent brick and stucco Italianate building was said to be the first skyscraper of its time, and you'll be following in the footsteps of some rather famous guests with a stay here. Since opening in 1860, it's hosted none other than Charles Dickens, Cecil Rhodes and Lillie Langtry, to name but a few. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from the center of Chester. Here you can browse the boutiques of The Rows, a unique two-tiered shopping gallery, tour the magnificent medieval cathedral or see the ruins of the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain. Families can have a fun day out at Chester Zoo, 4 miles from the hotel, while racegoers can try their luck at Chester Racecourse, the oldest in the world. Whether you're here for the Roman history, excellent shopping or business facilities, we're sure to have a room that fits your needs. Each floor is dedicated to a country, with every suite named after a king of that nation. All our 221 bedrooms have superfast fiber optic Wi-Fi, satellite TV and 24-hour room service. Some of our most luxurious rooms have Tencel mattress toppers, roll-top baths, Nespresso coffee machines and four-poster beds fit for royalty. When you're not relaxing in your room, enjoy a drink in one of our exquisite Victorian lounges or take arty photos on our sweeping four-story staircase.

"The Queen Hotel …fit for a King ."
_paulbrown519, 09 Avril 2024

My wife and I chose The Queen for a one night stay, because we've been before….and we enjoyed it. Similar with this short visit. Massive refurbishment at the moment but that didn't affect the smooth running of this ,highly recommended in our opinion ,welcoming hotel. Every member of staff never failed to smile, greet us upon entering, wherever, and thanking us upon leaving …after a top quality breakfast, and later on ..a nightcap . Too many names to mention ,so,as I previously stated…every member of staff. Thankyou to all …Hope to see you again on our next visit to Chester. Paul and Dil

"Happy Wee Break in Chester"
Ann M, 05 Avril 2024

Just back from an amzing couple of days in Chester. I cannot fault anything about this Hotel. My room was amazing, clean and comfortable and easily accessed by the lift. The staff were all so polite and had a cheery disposition, from Reception to the Restaurant . I would especially like to mention Eliza & Jessica , who were on Reception throughout my stay. Lovely chatty girls and made me feel totally at ease. Definately will be back.

"Excellent experience"
Discover58593, 02 Avril 2024

Excellent service, couldn't fault the cleanliness, bed was so comfortable, decor beautiful, complimentary treats. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning. Breakfast selection was amazing, so much choice, fresh and hot. Staff at breakfast along with receptionists couldn't do enough for you and we also got an upgrade.

"Excellent hotel"
TanyaL1022, 01 Avril 2024

Excellent hotel ,room was stunning, staff extremely friendly and welcoming. We would definitely go back again. The breakfast was really good , plenty of choice to cater for everyone. Location is stop on right next to train station 10 min walk in to town centre . Many thanks to the hotel staff for looking after us x

"Clean and cozy rooms and friendly service. The rest of the cafeteria looks poor due to the ongoing renovation and dusty"
slawomirb832, 01 Avril 2024

The hotel is under renovation, which we were not informed about. The advertisement looks quite promising, but half of the hotel is completely closed and the entrance to the reception is located somewhere at the back of the parking lot. The overall impression is that the renovation is in progress, but a positive surprise, nice service and clean rooms give a better effect.

"Refurb Underway"
samanthacH4574KI, 24 Mars 2024

Be aware there is work happening at the hotel so half of it is closed. Reception was make shift and small so lots of people cramped into a tiny space. We were given a key to a room that was already occupied and as an apology given drinks vouchers for the bar. Rooms were certainly interestingly decorated but at least clean! This hotel is very mediocre/ average but maybe it's because of the refurb work being done.

"BW Chester"
davidyorkesummer2023, 21 Mars 2024

This is a big hotel, after parking I went around to where reception is, only to find out there working on it and had to go all the way around, this could be communicated before arrival. Booking in fine, but wasn't offered a free drink or extra points as a BW member, had to ask. Room was very clean. Breakfast is ok but works going on near by wasn't great. Good EV chargers, not over priced like some.

"Underwhelmed"
RachelsGrandma, 18 Mars 2024

Underwhelmed. This is my 2nd review as the 1st has been removed. Superior rooms are of a good size but no luxury touches as promised in advertising. Lovely bathroom but a shame sink was totally blocked and had been for a while as tiles removed and botched repair evident. Lifts unavailable. Vastly overpriced considering the building is under renovation. None of the photos on site represent the current condition. We weren't told about the works until after we had paid in full on a non refundable booking. When trying to ring to enquire about renovation the phone was never answered. Food was cheap products and lacked a stocked continental selection. Breakfast staff were very attentive and extremely pleasant. Sadly disappointed at everything else. Close to railway station but that is the only plus point.

"Huge rooms. Very tidy"
jetchester, 12 Mars 2024

Had a lovely one night stay at the Queen's hotel in Chester. Highly recommend there huge ,clean and tidy rooms. They came with snacks, robes and beravges. It had an enormous TV with load of available Chanel's on the Freeview

"Building site"
BeagleBirmingham, 12 Mars 2024

The website of nice cosy bar with fire is not what we got a few conference chairs scattered around no ambiance and dirty mugs with a coffee machine that didn't work or had run out of coffee. The bar/restaurant was divided by paper dividers which were ripped there was no ambiance in their either. The menu had been printed on A4 and despite being booked in for dinner and breakfast and having paid the £12 to park we left before the very limited fried offering of food and didnt stay in the hotel as it was not as advertised.

"Under reconstruction"
7jakubh, 12 Mars 2024

We bought package including 2 nights, breakfast, one evening meal and afternoon tea for two. After arriving we were a bit surprised the hotel is actually under reconstruction. We have got room 1603 on the sixty floor. The view from the room was really nice, the room it selves is a bit dated. But I really loved the idea each floor and room is named after king from different countries around Europe. The sixth floor is Russian kings. In my room there was a picture of Alexander III on the wall above the bed. The bed is comfy and breakfast is very tasty. The reception desk staff was not very friendly except one dark hair girl who was very kind and helpful. There is one issue which needs to be mentioned and it is only one working lift for this 7th floor tall building. In general I had very nice stay and will come back again.

"Most Enjoyable Stay"
CastleResident, 07 Mars 2024

Had a great stay at the Queen @ Chester, starting with my request for an early check in being dealt with excellently by Eliza on Reception. The room was excellent, nice bathroom/ shower & bath, nice snacks in the room and bottled water. Breakfast on Saturday, Sunday & Monday was an excellent standard, Bacon, Fried Egg, Scrambled Egg, Hash Browns & Sausage with Marmite on toast and lovely black coffee, In the Bar had a couple of drinks and a Lasagna with chips on Sunday very nice too. All in all a very nice 3 night stay in a very individual Hotel, the Staff at Breakfast and in the Bar (Liam) were all excellent, pleasant and helpful. Obviously slightly disrupted because of the ongoing refurbishments, I was in one of the newly refurbished rooms.

"If it seems like a bargain ... read all the reviews"
rgrandad222, 07 Mars 2024

What a disappointment, but on a positive note, I have learned an expensive lesson by not checking recent reviews on TripAdvisor and photographs on Secret Escapes do lie. There are multiple things wrong with this hotel at the moment, I'll let you see other peoples reviews. My last stay in Chester was in the Weatherspoons hotel, half the price and a superior breakfast.

"The hotel is in a good location for visiting Chester"
GrandTour34356555223, 27 Février 2024

The hotel is in a good location for visiting Chester. Adjacent to the main railway station and only about 15-20 mins walk to the town centre. The room we had was clean, spacious and very quiet (on 4th floor). Breakfast selection was good and evening meals were excellent. We did have a room issue upon arrival but that was very quickly dealt with, entirely to our satisfaction, by the duty Receptionist

"Birthday Break"
Antony B, 21 Février 2024

Have been before and love the hotel and surroundings. Work being done this time but didn't change the experience. Friendly staff with a special mention to receptionist Eliza who sorted rooms for my 50th birthday stay so that we could return to the same room as when we were last there. Thank you!

"Amazing staff"
Beki J, 21 Février 2024

This is our favourite hotel in Chester and the I booked again for my partners 50th as a surprise. When we arrived I'd requested a specific room we had stayed in before. Eliza was so helpful and went above and beyond to find the room and ensure his surprise was how I imaged it. Can't thank her enough. It's a small detail but meant a lot to us!

"Terrible"
Phil T, 15 Février 2024

. I picked your hotel from the photos on the secret escape website which all look very impressive and sadly are nothing like the real thing. The hotel was very cold, very tired and dirty!!!! Which is totally unacceptable. The 3 course meal was terrible and the staff clueless at one point our waitress was questioning our food selection in an aggressive manor. We paid an extra £5 supplement for the salmon risotto which turned up without the salmon to which I questioned and the reply was this is your table isn't it!!!!! In a stern voice so the plate was taken away and my food left for about 10 minuets later she returned with my partners meal and my cutlery. As for the pudding there was a number of elements missing off the plate to which the waitress said “ yes I can see what you mean and walked away”.  The bar was closed for refurbishment to which we  was never informed you didn't even have and draft larger. The main lift didn't work so long ques for the small service lift, the tv didn't work which was eventually sorted. We was so fed up by the Queens experience we decided to get a taxi and go the a different hotel for drinks and actually enjoy the rest of our evening its was just a shame we had to come back and sleep there. I expressed my disappointment at the check in desk when we checked out. when we was confronted by a cocky young lad arguing with me and demanding to see the photos at no point did he apologise. I would like to draw your attention to the photo of the table in the front sitting area with CLEAN ME written in the dust which just sum it all up! Would you pay £240 for this experience! would you please tell me what you intend to do about this as I am not happy at all it was a total embarrassment which reflected badly on me in front of my partner. . "Big disappointment"
Saltam28, 14 Février 2024

Booked an upgrade to a Superior Double room, given standard room even after ringing prior to arrival to check & were advised upgraded room had been allocated. Was looking forward to a nice cappucino but no nespresso machine just a kettle! Bottom of bath was stained, bathrobes were scratchy & unwearable. Dinner was bland and unedible, told waitress, no response, even found a hair amongst my starter, main course was worse than a burger from MacDonalds, dry, no garlic & parsley butter as advertised, accompanied by a salad which was just rocket leaves with a couple of Parmesan shavings, no dressing. Extremely expensive drinks with little choice available. Staff unhelpful & were like they didn't care. What was supposed to be a special Anniversary night away, turned into a big disappointment. Car park charge advertised at £10 mid week on telephone message when you call the hotel charged £12. All in all a real waste of money. Only good point was bed was comfy and breakfast was not bad, apart from coffee! Not what you expect from this class of hotel!!

"Virgin on the Ridiculous"
Journey60205583569, 13 Février 2024

I shall start at the end - dinner. Here for a Virgin Experience in a hotel that I would never have gone to myself. I live locally and know how bad its rep is. Dinner lived up to it and more. Virgin diners are kept away from fee paying guests by a physical barrier - so you cannot see what the real money is paying an opposed to what the cheap seats get. It was so utterly crass as to be like Fawlty - “the plebs we get in here” etc. it is unacceptable in this day and age. Our food was poor. Judging by the derby and Birmingham accents around us loudly complaining others had a worse time. Cold soup, garlic bread brought out with dessert. Indifference begetting incompetence Everything else here is half done. It's half way to being polite (and therefore half way to being rude) at reception. The staff are uniformly uninterested and clearly dont wish to be there. The building is half warm. When we attended the refurb had just started - so no one gave more than a half a chuff what the place looked like. Every lampshade I saw in the public areas had half the bulbs not working. Loose wires. 2 of 3 lifts out of order - of course they are. More like turned off for cost reasons (the tape across the buttons was yellow with age). Avoid this hotel. There are better places in Chester. And Beirut.

"LOVELY HOTEL"
kaz1061, 11 Février 2024

The staff are very friendly , we were upgraded and the room was very nice. The bed was comfortable and room was quite big. The TV was a bit small and the iron has seen better days. The bathroom was large with a separate bath and walk in shower. The hotel its self is full of history and they have a very nice garden which will be nice to sit out in the summer. Breakfast was buffet with plently of choice. We would definately stay here again

"Unhelpful, rude receptionists."
richardo895, 10 Février 2024

Miserable male receptionists. Appalling customer service like we were stopping them hanging out in the back office. Cleaners don't phone down when a room is ready... Just leave them all to 4pm check in time. Fruit flies in the bar round the pumps. Room was great though. Just dated corridors and panels, doors and glass could do with a wipe. Got a good deal. Wish we'd paid more and gone to our usual hotel now.

"A little grandeur "
N_W_N66, 04 Février 2024

There are many good things about The Queen and they far outweigh the few little niggles that we had. The niggles first. The TV wouldn't turn on - told reception as we went out and it was sorted when we came back. There were a few things in the bathroom that needed attention - mostly cosmetic and not obtrusive so not a problem. The good things. The room generally and the bed in particular were great - the bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds we've slept in. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself has a certain grandeur to it. The best part - Eddie on reception! He gave us tips on where to go and what to see, and was obviously happy in his job - he is a credit to The Queen!!

"Staying in a palace"
Cynthia K, 02 Février 2024

The history is evident the moment you see the hotel with the statue of Queen Victoria on the porch. The Decor feels moves you to nearly expect a swish of a gown descending the elaborate staircase. Gorgeous! Old world charm. The staff are lovely. Food is very good. I shall be back.

"Disappointing 2 night stay!"
TDS1688, 30 Janvier 2024

A very disappointing 2 night stay! Stayed here with my husband and 3 month old baby for my husband's 40th birthday and it was a shambles from the minute we walked in the door. When we arrived, the staff on reception were unhelpful and made no effort. They didn't seem interested and the check in process was literally take the money and hand over the key. No mention of the breakfast that I'd prepaid for and when I asked about parking was literally told just to park anywhere. I'd booked a deluxe room and it seemed the furthest away considering we had a baby and lots of luggage. I did mention this when booking and was under the impression that we would be looked after but they just were not accommodating at all. The room itself was dirty! The bath had hair in and there was hair all over the soap dispenser. It hadn't been cleaned properly at all. The room is in massive need of an upgrade. The maid also left our used tea cups from the morning and just shoved extra milk in them. She didn't bother to change the mugs for the next morning. It was just grim! In the lift that we used there was a chip left on the floor for all 3 days we were there. The part of the hotel we were in just looked shabby. The breakfast itself was good but chaotic on the Sunday morning. The breakfast staff however were lovely and made us feel welcome. All in all considering I booked this hotel for a special occasion it did not feel special in any way and I would certainly not recommend anyone to stay here. I'm sure back in the day it was a lovely, grand hotel but it didn't feel like this during our stay.

"Would not return"
Jackie R, 28 Janvier 2024

I booked one night here as a Christmas gift for my husband, something to look forward to in gloomy January. Unfortunately, gloomy January was set to continue with our stay here. I can't say it was all bad but it certainly wasn't worth the £155.00 + £12.00 parking that I paid. The surrounding area of the hotel is not very appealing and upon walking up the steps through dirty, glass smeared doors didn't get us off to a great start. Next point of call being the reception was equally as bad. There were 2 reception staff, one a lady and one a gentleman. We were the unfortunate ones who got the gentleman who was unhelpful, dismissive and basically seemed irritated by doing his job. The lady on the other hand checking in another couple was helpful, cheerful and polite. Going to our room we walked through long corridors and you expect to see the odd tray left outside the rooms but there were so many that hadn't been tidied away and it was now 3.00 pm. The room itself was very nice. I had paid for the deluxe king and in comparison to the rest of the hotel it had been updated and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was a little more tired and few short and curlies on and around the toilet was not a welcome site but all in all the room was very comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was chaotic! It was literally like a cattle market with a self serve buffet where the food was presented in small serving dishes that literally ran out within minutes. People were constantly stood waiting for them to be topped up and it really wasn't worth the wait. Overall opinion of the hotel is I think it would have been special in it's day but it's eccentric décor is not quirky like I had imagined it to be but very dated and in need of an upgrade. The lack of cleanliness in the downstairs areas just ages it even more. It is definitely not 4 star standards and nor was it worth what I paid. If it was listed as 3 stars and I paid £90 I'd have thought it was worth the money. We would not return.

"Anniversary weekend"
739nickyr, 27 Janvier 2024

Stayed with friends for our anniversary weekend Staff very helpful especially Eddie on reception.Rooms very clean and lovely decor. Definitely would reccomend their afternoon tea and good selection if having breakfast. Great location if travelling by rail .

"Lovely Victorian Hotel"
Aldermary, 06 Octobre 2023

Just had a great mini-break here Staff are efficient and friendly ( special mention to Matthew in the dining room last night who was very patient and solicitous with my nut allergy) Rooms very comfortable, breakfast excellent and parking easy and nearby So nice to stay in such a Victorian Hotel with all the related paintings and sculpture Excellent value

"A really lovely night away in a very quaint hotel"
U281BLlees, 04 Octobre 2023

I have stayed at this hotel before and was not overly impressed the first time, so when my friend booked it as a surprise, I was a little unsure. I needn't have worried as our rooms were absolutely lovely. We stayed in the main hotel and I think that is what made a difference as last time we were in a building across the road. The Victorian decoration is really beautiful, we even enjoyed seeing Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, on the walls of the lift! The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was delicious. The reason that I am not giving five stars is that it was an extremely hot day and there were no fans left for a very overheated bedroom without air-conditioning. We did ask at reception and we're just told sorry they have all gone. This is not quite good enough. It did not ruin our stay though.

"Good Hotel with excellent staff"
283shirleyd, 30 Septembre 2023

We stayed here for two nights to visit and explore Chester. Staff and amenities very good. Breakfast with one dinner and a bottle of wine. Large room and bathroom with both a bath and walk-in shower. Excellent value.

"Top Hotel"
EileenC126, 29 Septembre 2023

We thoroughly enjoyed are stay at The Queens from the moment we arrived were we we're greeted by the charming Eddie on reception who was warm & friendly. I was impressed by the decor and ambiance of The Queens and our superior room was lovely too. We visit Chester a couple of times and year and normally stay in other hotels but not no more now that we have found The Queens our new go to place in Chester.

"What a gem!"
A9390ATdawng, 27 Septembre 2023

We found a gem of a hotel with fabulous amenities. Car parking was easy, check in was completed in advance and reception staff lovely. Our room was as expected and we felt worth the minimal cost to upgrade to executive. We had a lovely sleep followed by the most fabulous breakfast. All staff we encountered were lovely. We loved the oasis garden hidden from the world, just right for an pre-dinner pimms.

"Great Hotel Friendly Staff"
neagles2610, 25 Septembre 2023

Just had a fabulous break in Chester. Hotel is great location. We stayed in a refurbished king room. Room was clean and well presented. Wifi was great Breakfast was well stocked and great choice. The staff at breakfast and throughout hotel were really friendly. Bed was super comfy.

"Lovely stay attentive staff"
angelofthenorth68, 24 Septembre 2023

We visited Chester for a river cruise & Sicilian wine tasting at Veenos. Our stay at the queens was fabulous, we would normally book a suite but, went for a standard room which was perfect and exceptionally clean this hotel is in a perfect location opposite the railway station we parked on the hotel car park and walked into town plus to the river. We liked the bar area and found staff extremely attentive I have booked to come back in November with friends Christmas shopping thank you to the Queens for a lovely stay. Donna

"Customer Service Disgraceful"
Ursula B, 18 Septembre 2023

My friend and I tried to book in on Saturday for 1 night to celebrate my daughter's 40th birthday! I had booked and paid for the room with Algotels which apparently i was told from the receptionist at the hotel is a scam site! Obviously I was upset and due to Chester being busy with Chester races it was difficult to get anywhere else! I was offered a room there for over £200 to which I had to refuse after having already paid!! This hotel treated us so badly!! We were just ignored- we not even offered any refreshment! We then had to try and find something cheaper and quickly as I was meeting my daughter for an event in the afternoon! Absolutely disgusted!!

"An outstanding wedding venue"
Fearless49499577449, 17 Septembre 2023

The Queen at Chester offers an outstanding wedding venue characterised by the highest quality of service from beginning to end. The hotel itself is a fabulous place to stay, the service given by staff tremendous with the wedding support incredibly friendly and helpful from the outset. Guests at our wedding commented at just how great everything was. The food was of the highest quality and the chef came out with a platter especially for a child which helped make their and parents evening. All this quality came at an affordable, highly competitive, price that made all the difference for our wedding. We are left with very happy memories of our wonderful wedding thanks to the Queen at Chester Hotel.

"Not very good"
xjameslagan, 17 Septembre 2023

Noise outside from rough sleepers at the train station. Hotel has had better days and tired in places. Reception staff not really bothered in my opinion.I normally like Best Western, but this was a negative experience for me.

"A fabulous over night stay"
KATEanCHRIS, 17 Septembre 2023

My husband and I stayed here for one night on an extremely hot day /night in September. We had booked a deluxe king room and were Extremely Satisfied with it. The air conditioning was brilliant and kept the room so cool. The beds are enormous and very comfortable, the pillows are not the best but perfectly acceptable. The bathroom was spotless with plenty of hot water and beautiful thick towels. We loved the hospitality tray with chocolate and crisps ! Great for snacking when we arrived back at night. The hotel itself is a beautiful period building with so much character ! The courtyard outside is a lovely area to sit and enjoy a drink from the bar. Happy hour was great and we even had two vouchers in the room for an extra free drink ! Three glasses of wine for the price of one ! Breakfast is very nice with a lovely wide choice of continental and full English. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Parking was right outside at a cost of £12 per 24hrs which we found in line with other cities we have stayed at and very conveniently located. The railway station is right opposite so convenient should you travel by rail and there's a bus right outside that takes you to the centre every half an hour for £3 return. A very enjoyable stay and we will definitely return to this hotel in the future.

"Lovely Warm Reception on Arrival - The Queen Hotel at Chester"
JIM A, 15 Septembre 2023

We have spent the last 2 weeks travelling staying at various hotels all over the UK. Without doubt this was our best experience arriving at the Queen Hotel, Chester. We are greeted by a nice friendly young man called 'Eddie'. Very professional, informative and answered every question with a lovely smile. I really don't think we have ever had such a nice warm welcome to a hotel. I really hope the management of this hotel read this review, Eddie is a real asset to your team at this hotel. The room, breakfast and all facilities are all world class. I can highly recommend this hotel to all travellers. Jim Andrews

"comfortable stay, friendly staff"
Caroline W, 15 Septembre 2023

A group of friends meeting together for a couple of days. Very comfortable rooms and a very useful lounge area where we could gather and chat. Very convenient by the station and within easy walking distance of the city.

"Dismal room that was supposedly upgraded.Outdated.Lift out of order."
CarolD517, 15 Septembre 2023

We went to Chester for an overnight stay for our 50th Wedding Anniversary as it was special we decided to up grade our room.It was disgusting, dingy out of date, plugs not working no hairdryer. The reception did correct these issues. It was depressing. Dinner at night wasn't the best. Breakfast ok staff were very friendly in the morning. Won't be returning.

"Filthy, and disappointing"
Zippyh1983, 10 Septembre 2023

My partner and I booked a weekend Friday to Sunday here. On entering the room, first impressions was that is was small and tight. The room was pretty dirty and the lampshades etc were caked in dust, curtains ripped and window wouldn't stay open as sashes were broken. We are not ones to complain so cleaned with some anti bac wipes. However, as it was so hot we stripped the quilt from the bed to just use the quilt cover, and were absolutely horrified to find a blood stained quilt. Images attached. It was very late so as we didn't need the quilt, we threw in the cupboard and would deal with in the morning. Next morning I went to raise the issues with reception, and the customer service was appalling. I whispered these issues as there were other guests about, Martin did not even look up at me when I told him I was unhappy. He said he didn't understand why the quilt was there, when he'd purchased new ones recently. Said we could change rooms but one wouldn't be ready until normal check in at 4pm!! However my main concern here, is not once did the word sorry leave his mouth, and no apology was made by anyone. He said he would get the chamber made to bring a proper sheet to the room as we didn't need a quilt, and he would have maintenance look at the window, and if the sash was indeed broken, he would get them to jar it with some wood. From our room we called down to say we would be leaving at about 11.30 to go out for the day. The chamber maid came at 10.30 and whilst we wasn't quite ready we made ourselves scarce, and restressed we did NOT want the quilt as it was too hot. When coming back from our day out there was a quilt on the bed!!! We have obviously been very unlucky as we booked our stay based on the great reviews, but again to not even get an apology was awful and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and hope I never have to stay here again. The bathroom was also filthy and when taking a shower the shower gel fell off the wall so I left in the rack. Almost hit my foot !! Disappointed and couldn't wait to get out. Checkout as at 11, we were gone at 9am.

"Great hotel"
Maggie T, 09 Septembre 2023

A lovely hotel close to the amenities and the train station is opposite. Great features around the hotel and lovely outdoor area to sit and have drinks. We had a lovely walk to the city centre via the canal path lots to see around and not too far to walk.

"Grand hotel with great location"
Sara P, 08 Septembre 2023

Great hotel and great location, I only stayed for two nights with my mum, we both enjoyed ourselves would have been better if there was some kind of entertainment on of a night, all staff friendly and helpful especially victoria, nothing was to much trouble, she is an asset to the hotel.

"The Historic and Wonderful Queen Hotel in Chester"
Susan H, 06 Septembre 2023

The Queen, Chester is a hotel we love so we popped in for a cooling drink before getting the train home after a brief shopping trip. One of the staff has returned after a hiatus of three years and we were thrilled to see her. If you know the courtyard, you'll know it's something else and quite a wonderful place to sit in with its Italianate sculptures, including Roman gladiators, lions and a giant tortoise and also a lovely fountain. I thought it couldn't get any better but there are now more chairs and tables, soft lighting for the evening, and canopies over to provide cover and also heat on chilly nights. We're going to book to stay again this September and, really, I just think, why would anyone want to stay anywhere else when this is what is on offer. And it's a few minutes across the road from the entrance of Chester train station.

"Tom is great "

"Very good! "

The beds are SO comfy, the room was immaculate, shower/bath was so so nice and powerful, staff were very helpful and friendly. Really good location too by the train station and surprisingly quiet. Ty

"Nothing special but staff at breakfast are an asset to this hotel"
SGVK19, 30 Août 2023

The hotel itself was quite dark and dingey. There was hardly any lighting in the corridors when you left or returned to your rooms. There was a leak above one of the chandeliers just outside the one lift. Our room was the executive suite which was a big room but facilities were not up to a high standard. The shower floor was stained from dirt and the shower mat had hairs all over it so we just moved that to a side because we were not prepared to stand on something so dirty let alone try to give our 18 month old a wash near that. Our table lamp was not working and there was one spoon for the tea/coffee which was also dirty. There was a table which would have been perfect for a mirror to get ready but the mirror was placed on the wall away from lighting and the table - so think it would have been helpful having a mirror with the table especially if you want to do your hair or makeup to get ready to go out etc. We had put a request for a cot/cot bed but we called up a couple of days before when they advised they don't have any but will provide a cold out sofa bed. This was okay for us as our daughter sleeps in her own bed at home but I would recommend bringing a travel cot if you are staying with children under 2 years of age. Breakfast was a great selection and made very well. We all enjoyed the breakfast and the staff during breakfast in particular are an asset to this hotel as they are so welcoming, friendly and attentive. They were so lovely and probably the best aspect of this hotel along with the breakfast. The hotel is in a convenient location if you are visiting by train because the hotel is opposite the station. Parking wasn't the best as you pay to park to the side/behind the hotel and not guaranteed a space even if you pay for your whole stay in one go. This is because it is open to all so if you do travel by car keep this in mind if you plan to take your car to visit other parts of Chester. We had to park temporarily on the street after visiting some attractions and check later in the night to see if a space became available in the car park (which it did luckily) because I am 8 months pregnant and walking a long distance to the car wasn't ideal.

"Pleasantly surprised"
sayers17, 29 Août 2023

Prior to arrival was expecting the hotel to be a bit run down as is typical with this type of hotel but was pleasantly surprised hotel was lovely lots of historic features kept and well maintained while rooms were modernised and comfortable breakfast was good and staff friendly

"Amazing staff "

"Eccentric Hotel which Dickens would have liked…even today"
rogertB1963KY, 27 Août 2023

Step back in time in this hotel. Taste its illustrious past opposite the railway station. Pay for your parking in the adjacent park and book in. Be greeted at Reception and learn that the main lift was not working (for some time). Slog your cases to the back of the hotel and get the tiny lift up to the 6th floor. Then lug your cases up one floor to the 7th only to find your room keys were the wrong ones. Ask to change your room as there is no chance of surviving in the event of a fire. Room change to the first floor where the lift did work and, surprisingly, the light and airy room overlooking the car park, was pleasant with all the usual facilities. Two complimentary drink vouchers were accepted at the turn of the century bar. Self service breakfast was fine. I am sure that Dickens would still be happy to stay there. Overall, the staff did well to keep it running and were helpful. The plumbing must be a nightmare to fix when it goes wrong. Overall, we liked it as eccentric but don't go up the to the seventh floor if you have mobility problems….unless the staff offer to carry you…..

"Dirty, Dated and tacky!"
johough2n, 27 Août 2023

Would not stay here again ever! Leak above the bed, public hair in the bath tub! The place smelt musty and old! Had to swap rooms and was placed on the top floor but the lift was broken! Dirty beer glasses everywhere and the breakfast was cold! Worst hotel I have ever stayed in!

"A fab stay in quirky hotel"
W_yorksFrancis, 22 Août 2023

We had a fab overnight stay here, the deluxe room was a great size, super clean and with lovely little hospitality touches, chocolate bars, quality crisps etc. It was great value for a Sat night in Chester with breakfast thrown in. Breakfast was simple but quality produce so overall great! Plenty of hot food and no queues, the dining area has been modernised and is lovely and spacious. The hotel is a curious mix of moden, traditional and pure eccentricity, it's a bit bizarre but adds to the quirky nature of the place. The interior buyer must be on steroids! What we liked especially was the laid back but professional staff. They all had this quality so it must be the vibe the hotel is going for, they were friendly, efficient, helpful and chilled. Great! I know Chester well and some hotels have little parking and it can be a bit isolated, so having a car park tucked away behind the hotel was excellent. Super convenient location next to train station. Will stay again!

"Wonderful will stay again."
Stburton, 21 Août 2023

This is such a wonderful Hotel . We will definitely be going there again . I booked it last minute because my first Hotel that I booked was terrible and we walked out. It was right in the centre of Chester next to the railway station. The room was lovely big four poster bed large room. Clean and comfortable. Breakfast nice but very busy. A lot of people the day we stayed there.

"Not the greatest"
Jaz S, 20 Août 2023

The staff are super friendly and helpful, but the rooms are filled heavily with dust, not the greatest when it triggers allergies. The breakfast was okay but the orange juice and cranberry juice was just cordial. The room was nice a good size but the floors in the hallway are uneven and the hallway had a bad smell.

"Excellent stay"
Anne B, 19 Août 2023

Excellent hotel right outside train station and 15 minute walk to city centre but plenty to see on way. Friendly staff, Excellent clean rooms with lovely shampoo, lotion and body wash. Great buffet breakfast and restaurant and bar food very good.

"Very enjoyable. "
Katiefish85, 18 Août 2023

I brought my 4 year old to visit Chester for 2 nights. She absolutely loved the hotel. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful especially the breakfast staff. We asked for a quiet room and we got one which was perfect. Two reasons that it's not 5 star The main outdoor area was closed for redevelopment and I don't recall reading that on any information prior to our visit. We returned to the hotel at approx 5pm on Thursday and had to wade through 10-15 slightly worse for wear well dressed smokers on the steps of the hotel blocking the way and blowing smoke as we tried to get to the front door. Where several staff members inside were well aware that they were there. Not a great experience. Overall however we had a great time. My daughter loved exploring the building with all its statues, nooks and of course Queenie!

"Disapointing"
mike22052019, 18 Août 2023

First Post Covid return visit to this venue. We have stayed on many occasions and have always found the location staff and service to be excellent. However, things have changed! On arrival the reception was OK but formal rather than welcoming. The room was in the Kings Apartments which was fine. The fine dining restaurant has closed and is now a wedding venue. Meals are in the main Kings Grill which lacks the comfort and relaxed dining previously afforded. One the first night there were two or three very large coach parties which meant waiting over half an hour for our starters. The second night was better but still slow, although the staff did have more time to interact. The room was only half cleaned on the second day, gave you the impression they would return to finish the job but did not. Overall whilst it was a pleasant stay it was not of the standard that the old Queens Hotel had provided. Would not recommend if you want a quiet relaxed break.

"An enjoyable stay at The Queen Chester"
Judith M, 18 Août 2023

The Queen at Chester is so conveniently located at the Chester Railway Station. My room was recently refurbished and was well appointed. I had a lovely view over the historic gardens. I really enjoyed my stay. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very appealing in its soft blue tones

"Hotel review "
P8228TMgeorgeg, 18 Août 2023

Hotel was fine when you walk in the room was ok looked clean were with coach tour the meals were not a wow factor very basic and the sausages weren't good the service wasn't very good took a long time to get your meal and not very hot housekeeping was a bit to be desired as they didn't empty bin in bedroom a few times and didn't change duvet cover the 4days were there didn't changed used cups one day or hoover floor I was there but wouldn't go back

"A very mixed bag"
Wanderer690676, 16 Août 2023

This is basically a good hotel with one a major failing. First the good. This historic hotel's location next to the train station and with instant access to Chester's bus service is good. Our room had just been given a refurb and was also large. The public rooms were also very pleasant as were the staff. The breakfast was pretty good, just as you would expect and the lunch, although limited in choice, was perfectly adequate. Things, however, fell apart with the evening meal. There was hardly any choice eg. no rice or pasta dishes. As for the prices, well these were just bordering on the ludicrous- at one point I thought I saw Dick Turpin riding through the dining room. The worst bit though was the wait. Sorry, the eternal wait. This was the sort of place to go if you wanted to grow old in. 30 mins for a cold dessert ??. If I ran this hotel I would seriously be looking at putting on a hot buffet in the evening as this must be a better option. I would stay at this hotel again but next time would be booking a taxi into Chester itself for something to eat at night.

"Excellent from the moment we walked in"
funkygibb0, 16 Août 2023

Lovely hotel, great service, Eddie on reception is outstanding. Stayed in lovely superior room, breakfast was excellent and all staff we engaged with where fantastic. The gardens are lovely to sit out and eat and drink, history is wrapped up through the hotel which adds to the experience positively. Thank you, we will be back

"Lovely, quirky hotel!"
gemj82, 10 Août 2023

We had a 2 night stay in August and couldn't fault it at all. The hotel is an old building and in parts that showed but everywhere was clean and tidy, rooms cleaned daily with fresh towels each day. The beds were comfy and we had a spacious room. Each room is named after someone.....we stayed in Princess Irene room! Our room was on the front right by the station but we didn't hear one train during our stay. We pre booked parking in their car park which is right beside the hotel. We left our luggage at reception as we were early for check in and we didn't return until 11.30pm after enjoying a lovely meal out and a few drinks, this wasn't a problem for reception and wished us a good night. All staff were great. Breakfast was very good. Cooked breakfasts, fruit, yogurt, pastries......plenty of choice! We would definitely book again!

"Fabulous staff, fabulous hotel!"
Caitriona F, 09 Août 2023

I can not even remember the last time I experienced such courteous, well mannered helpful kind staff. They were simply amazing to anything I needed. It was such a pleasant stay. Quirky interior with lovely grounds. And you can bring your doggie!

"Daughters wedding "
Taximadam, 08 Août 2023

Had my daughters wedding breakfast and evening reception here after church cannot recommend this place enough the staff are wonderful so helpful with everything made our day even more special all the family chose to stay in hotel after wedding and rooms were all lovely clean and comfortable will be returning to stay for future family occasions

"Don't leave valuables in your room, it isn't secure."
ElwoodVR, 07 Août 2023

Door left open by cleaners twice, when I complained they stopped doing my room. When you are staying somewhere long term for business you tend to have a lot of personal items, in my case - a mandolin worth a lot of money and a laptop. I won't be staying here again.

"Won't be returning in a hurry!"
Pamela C, 06 Août 2023

From the reception enormous chandelier and display cabinets to the bedroom shower screen seal, this hotel is filthy. Rooms also in need of DIY maintenance, toilet roll holder, towel holder and wallpaper hanging off. Restaurant staff more interested in gathering around the bar chatting. Hotel has a serious lack of top Management. But - good news, the Reception chaps are helpful.

"Good stay except cleaning"
anncogdon, 04 Août 2023

The staff are lovely, hotel is quirky and could do with decluttering and refurb, cleaning is not up to standard.bathroom very poor and marks on duvet and towel. Had to pay for my pet but room was not cleaned to my satisfactory.

"Don't do the steak."
garykings2023, 03 Août 2023

The hotel, room and staff were very good. The trip was only spoiled by the chef's inability to recognise a quality steak and cook it to the standard asked for. More gristle than steak and what should have been rare turned out like a well done flip flop.

"Ideal location for train travellers but beware the music venue 20 metres away during summer"
jason_papworth, 01 Août 2023

Nice place. Has an antiquated feel in public areas but rooms are clean and modern with good internet. Easy walking distance into town and only 20metres from the rail station. Good breakfast but only starts at 7am weekdays and 8am Saturdays which isn't ideal. The only issue I had was with noise nuisance. Part of one of the previous railway sidings at the train station has been converted into a semi-open air music venue called The Carriage Shed. On Friday evening of my stay and all through Saturday afternoon til 2200hrs it was non-stop Ibiza beats type music played at high volume. You couldn't escape it even with the windows closed. It might not bother some people, but if it does then best to google check the venue for when it's having events as it will likely spoil your stay.

"Afternoon tea "
16debras, 31 Juillet 2023

Afternoon tea here today was pretty disappointing. The sandwiches were piece of white French stick with toppings and the selection of cakes and scones were not freshly baked but more like defrosted or manufactured. The service and place were good so they let themselves down with the food unfortunately

"Poor house keeping "
guppy02, 30 Juillet 2023

We booked and overnight stay with breakfast and afternoon tea. The breakfast and afternoon tea was lovely. However I wouldn't call it luxury as claimed by the hotel. It was just enough to satisfy two people. The breakfast was superb, we both filled up and the quality was good! Moving onto the room, this is where we were majorly let down. We booked an executive double, however there was nothing executive about it, it was a massive room lacking any soul or character. The bathroom was showing its age the tiles on the floor were all broken and the shower tray was stained. We also found that the room had not been properly serviced there was NO toilet paper , and In the morning we quickly noticed we had no milk in the room. The room in my opinion was just not up to quality for a 4 star! The hotel its self is beautiful. Just to note the TV was not setup properly so we only had about 5 channels that worked. Checkout was busy so we were unable to feed back.

"Excellent stay"
waynemorton56, 28 Juillet 2023

This hotel is fantastic, stayed hear every year for fast 5 years when visiting Chester zoo (only 8min drive away) this is a great hotel for families, the family rooms are massive and nice, hotel has a great courtyard garden for kids to run around, breakfast is one of the best you can get in a hotel and overall value for money you would find it hard to beat anywhere in the country.

"Accommodating and Warm "
Elaine B, 22 Juillet 2023

This conveniently located hotel (across from train station) provides lovely service to guests. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The hotel bar is lovely and the staff so accommodating. The outdoor (smoking area and garden) are lovely to sit in and chat with friends. All and all this hotel is wonderful.

"Good hotel let down by forgetful service"
Jonathan W, 20 Juillet 2023

We booked an exec twin room. On arrival this was confirmed to us but our room was set up as a double. When I asked for this to be sorted at reception I was assured this would be rectified when we were out for dinner. On returning from our meal it hadn't been done so we had to sit and watch someone change our bed for around 20 mins at 11:30 pm. This was unfortunate and could have so easily been avoided. Overall the hotel was really good value and was surprisingly well appointed. On this occasion let down by poor admin and forgetful service

"Really very nice and excellent value"
Adam L, 20 Juillet 2023

Booked at very short notice because business required me to attend one of the practice days for the Open golf championship. Those who have been to an Open will know that accommodation anywhere near a host venue books up very quickly and is hideously expensive. The Queen was by a distance the cheapest place I was prepared to stay in, and frankly I didn't have high expectations. But it way exceeded those expectations: lovely building, very nice room, good breakfast, friendly staff. Great location right across from Chester station meant getting to the course was a breeze. I really enjoyed my stay.

"Characterful and charming"
Rachael N, 18 Juillet 2023

This hotel came to my rescue when another cancelled at very short notice. It really is a special place - the building itself is stunning and very grand with a number of impressive artworks all the way up the stairs. I was in room 231 and although a little tired in places it was clean and comfortable and I was happy being at the back of the building overlooking the courtyard. Breakfast was lovely. The ladies in the dining area are very smiley and really take care of you which matters a lot when you are traveling alone. I really was loathed to leave and plan to come back and stay longer. For anyone looking for a central hotel with style and great staff - pick here. Thank you to everyone who made my mini break one to remember.

"A perfect stay for chester "
241nicolad, 16 Juillet 2023

It's been years since we have stayed in a Best Western Hotel, but this one is a real gem! Warm welcome at reception, decor at the hotel grand, room was immaculate and large. Everything you needed with robes and slippers too. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of hot and cold choices as well as a pancake maker. This hotel was perfectly situated for the train station and despite being close, we never heard a single train. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will most certainly be back.

"Tired, damaged, dirty, eddie"
classfreedom, 15 Juillet 2023

Its such a shame that the initial welcome from one member of staff can set the tone for the entire stay, luckily we was only here for one night but this stay left us feeling had we not pre paid we would have left in a heartbeat, eddie on reception was void of any customer service, and was in-fact incredibly rude, we had no welcome no pleasantries, he informed us our stay didn't include breakfast even though it did, when I explained this he simply said not on my side, only when I luckily produced a photo of the booking did he add them with no apology, was made to feel like I was a liar, he explained how we get to our room and rolled his eyes when we asked him to repeat the directions that had all sorts of lefts and rights to remember, no explanation of how the restaurants or breakfast works with the little dog we brought, the so called superior double was small and dated, light fittings damaged, mouldy grout, lines dusty sills and one complimentary coffee pod, this hotel is NOT dog friendly, yes it will accept dogs but you are not allowed in the restaurant and the place you can sit with a dog its a walk away from where the food is so at breakfast you have to lug plates of breakfast back and forth from one area of the hotel to the next, this was not explained on the website or at booking, had to have this conversation with the o-so charming Eddie to where he repeatedly mid conversation would fully look away and keep talking to you whilst typing on the computer reminiscent of the computer says no sketch from little Britan, the hotel is really showing its age cracks in the plaster, broken fittings and fixtures, the gardens are not being maintained broken paving slabs murky brown water in the stagnant fountain, broken glass all over the floor, filthy fittings and doors, we was going to have dinner but we was sat in a room with no atmosphere alone as we wasn't allowed in the restaurant and after we was charged close to £15 for two lager tops we binned off the place and went to a lovely pub in town called old harkers arms. Save your money, book a premiere inn

"Short break"
garymC2656YK, 07 Février 2023

After reading some reviews was wary of staying in this hotel Shouldn't of worried at all On arrival the reception area and grand stairways are amazing Staff were really helpfull upgraded to a double executive room It was enormous and absolutely spotless with a modern bathroom as well Everything we needed was there and the room was warm as well Didn't have a meal at hotel but had a few drinks in hotel bar very pleasant We really enjoyed our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to book again knowing what we know now Friends said there room was great as well so all in all a lovely short breakaway

"A reasonable experience"
ceffylgwyn, 31 Janvier 2023

stayed a this hotel for two nights visiting Chester. The hotel has historical charm and there are many artifacts relating to the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The location requires a walk into the city but there is a bus service from the railway station opposite the hotel. The car parking is very convenient payable at a machine or via an app. room servicing is a little inconsistent but the staff are very pleasant and helpful. However, the fabric and decor of the hotel is in urgent need of refreshment and would not compete with the modern chain hotels.

"overnight stay"
M1843YKmichellec, 30 Janvier 2023

great location near to train station and walking distance to main shopping area. Breakfast was lovely self service and all hot. Room was lovely with comfy bed and very quiet, we had the queen ann room.

"Excellent hotel and staff. Looking forward to returning"
Wanderer92443, 28 Janvier 2023

We have stayed here a number of times. It has always been excellent. Friendly, clean, lovely food. We have recommended it many times to friends a day family. Perfectly situated for the train station. Secure parking for drivers.

"Great stay in Chester"
gazzah45, 27 Janvier 2023

Had two really great nights at this hotel. Evening meal was superb and the breakfast selection had everything you would need. Staff couldn't be more helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room was fairly spacious with a very comfortable bed

"2 Nights at Queens"
36adilq, 25 Janvier 2023

The hotel entrance and breakfast area are quite night with impressive landing and spiral stairs serving all 3 floors. However to my disappointment my room on the 3rd floor (314) was awful. The walls had damp, paper peeling off, floors creak, shower didn't work properly at all, and very dated overall with the TV not working very well and could hear the TV from the room next door. The bed however was comfortable. Betters option within 5-10min walk I think.

"Great hotel is excellent location"
susan37c, 20 Janvier 2023

First time visiting Chester. Hotel was immaculate with friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was delicious. Location is perfect, less than 10min walk into the centre of Chester and everything is accessible by foot. Parked the car (£12 for 24hrs) and walked to all historical attractions. Will visit again.

"New Year 3 Night Package"
DaveandLynStoneUK, 16 Janvier 2023

This was our third New Year stay at the Queen. It took some time to get the booking confirmed as Central Reservations didn't have the event listed. It is better to contact the hotel directly. We booked a superior room again and expected to be in the Kings Building again, but this year, when we checked in, we were on the third floor of the old building. The room was large and spacious with a couch and 2 chairs to relax. The bathroom was bright and fresh with a large walk-in shower. Unlike last year, the heating was on, and the room was comfortable. The New Year Hogmanay Gala dinner caters to a large crowd, but the food, drinks, and service were good given the numbers, up on last year. Breakfasts were up to the usual standard, and we liked the addition of the self-serve coffee machines that brewed a good cup. All in all, another very enjoyable New Year's stay, so thanks to all the staff who made it so.

"Last minute weekend away"
H6852OTdavidd, 15 Janvier 2023

Last minute weekend away decided to try here with the location looking good as we were arriving on the train. Check in was very efficient and rooms very spacious and comfortable. Didn't eat here apart from the breakfast which was excellent, very hot and excellent choice, nice easy walk into the city, wouldn't hesitate to stay here again

"Poor, very very poor"
199vee, 14 Janvier 2023

Supposedly 4* hotel but no biscuits on the tea tray and very dusty around the skirting boards. Wouldn't recommend!! Very poor for a Best Western!! Easier stay at the Travel Inn or Travel Lodge, much cleaner and cheaper

"Lovely midweek break"
johngV7853JK, 13 Janvier 2023

Nice hotel, staff are very pleasant. Room was missing a couple of things stated in the directory but had extras we didn't expect. Food in the restaurant was especially good. Buffet Breakfast had a good selection and again the person running it was very efficient. Chester centre is about 15 minutes walk away but a shuttle bus outside the railway runs every 10 mins, 1st stop bus station, 2nd stop city centre then back to the hotel. One suggestion is to have some instructions on how to use the Nespresso machine and the ability to make things like cappuccino. Thanks for a lovely stay.

"Disappointing Service "
Phyllrab, 08 Janvier 2023

41 helpful votes Disappointing Service We attended the New Year's Eve party in December 2022.Our party of 3 couples booked the party in September and paid our deposit with the balance paid in early December. We stayed in another hotel and called in early morning to check the venue and unfortunately found out from the receptionist that our party of 6 wasn't included in the seating plan. We received a phone call at 1.15pm to inform us a table was set for our party of 6 which put minds at ease but the scenario of turning up at the event and no table set for us was worrying and probably would have happened if I hadn't called in early morning. The evening was excellent with the food tremendous and entertainment good but felt a bit let down with the events explained. There was 2 bottles of champagne kindly put on our table as an apology from the hotel which was appreciated but the non seating of our party of 6 was not what we were looking for especially considering the price of the tickets.

"Lovely night away"
natkay30, 05 Janvier 2023

The hotel is in a great location and has impressive decors and huge bedrooms. We booked b&b and the breakfast was really good with a great range of cooked items as well as continental. It's just a 10 minute walk to the shops and bars of Chester. Our room was warm and the bed was super comfy. Fabulous large walk in shower and everything was spotlessly clean.

"NOT A PREMIER PROPERTY"
stevenlewis2023, 03 Janvier 2023

The building is amazing a prime example of victorian elegance and a fascinating history. As a hotel it is lacking in any way from being a premier property. The room we were allocated was most unpleasant, this was rectified by being moved to another room without any problem. If you are expecting a four star premier hotel this is probably not for you.

"Twixmas breakaway"
joolz112, 30 Décembre 2022

Loved the decor, Christmas decorations and the warm friendly atmosphere of the hotel it was a Twixmas coach holiday and was well worth the stay. My room was amazing all coordinated and cosy, perhaps a little on the warm side even the radiator was off but the window worked just fine. For me the evening meals could have been presented a little better but overall the food was fair, chatty obliging and attentive staff, I would definitely recommend and have no hesitation in staying at this hotel.

"Don't bother"
Adamande, 20 Décembre 2022

Came here for works Xmas party. Cost £88 for meal and unlimited drinks. On entry to the party room, they had canapés which were quite nice .. we were then shown our table. The waitress had a attitude problem, you could tell she didn't want to be working that night - so rude and strutted as if she owned the place. The main meal was Xmas dinner which was lovely and desserts were nice too. However the bar didn't open until 10pm ? So you had bottles of wine put on your table up until then , every time we ran out they took over 20 mins bringing another. This is 3 rd time been here , will not return again .. not worth the money . Used to be really good . Gone down hill

"Nice room versus bad room"
leslyt, 18 Décembre 2022

Stayed in were part of hotel first night 1611 no fault , to return from lovely day out to find no hot water available after several trips to reception one even being told problem solved we were moved to 113 in old part of hotel freezing basic room very disappointed with the room

"Great"
717lindsayr, 15 Décembre 2022

Enjoyed a night away with my partner, room was clean, modern and just what we needed. Unfortunately we were unable to check in early, but stored our bags. Breakfast was great, lots of choice, all hot (rare I can find a decent fried egg on a buffet but even that was good!) Only downside was the lengthy walk to the main entrance (hotel seems to have a wierd layout!) and I couldn't find any form of room service menu in the room, not sure if this was an option or not! All the staff we met were friendly and helpful, even the chef topping up the buffet wished us a Good Morning. Tom on reception was there every time we passed and was especially helpful. One comment is maybe not to mention the prosecco waiting in the room.. I think that ruined the surprise somewhat. Would definitely stay again.

"Beautiful Refurbished Room but Freezing Cold"
TPLL, 14 Décembre 2022

Visited here and windows were open on arrival making room cold. All walk ways through the hotel towards the refurbished area were also cold but not as big deal. Having turned up the heating and put the radiator on for eight hours there was no warmth in the room. Fortunately they had robes in the room which were useful to sleep in but not a comfortable nights sleep. We ate in the restaurant which was a good value for a nice meal. The breakfast was also very nice. A mixed experience, and if the room had been more of a comfortable temperature we would have rated this higher.

"1st room not good"
Ausman97, 13 Décembre 2022

Met up with friends for the night the room was 305,I recommend not using it,the bed was great and bedroom ok,a bit cold overnight as heating was turned off in -4 temps outside? The bathroom was awful vert dirty seal on shower glass door, needs destroying, mould and horrible colour liquid on sill due to condensation on window the blinds were all covered in dust, every single slat.there was a 2 foot long cobweb over the tea and coffee making area.the extra heater did not work in the room.would not stay in that part of hotel again we then decided to stay sn extra night in the newer part which was perfect

"Poor!!!!!"
679miriamp, 12 Décembre 2022

Hotel is very dated, weird set up with a long walk to the lift to get to the room. On arrival a bottle of red wine was left in our room…in a bucket of ice?!! I requested our room was serviced and it wasn't. Mould in the shower. Dinner was truly awful. Corridors had a funny smell. Will not recommend or return!!!

"Part good , part not so good"
theposh, 09 Décembre 2022

Here last night for a works event and stayed 2 nights. On the plus side really close to station, really friendly Team members and a nice building. But sadly had horrible queues to check in, cold rooms despite an extra heater, super bland designed small rooms with peeling wallpaper. Not what you might think from this apparently more premium brand and £100+ room rate. Car parking only doable via an app is also a wind up and dont get me started on the InBev orientated beer range. Not for me

"The standards to which I have been used to have sadly been eroded."
Kenneth F, 08 Décembre 2022

We have been to a variety of Best Western Hotel over the years and all ways had an enjoyable stay however on this occasion we were disappointed. You could no longer phone down to reception, no phones. If you did need assistance, on the introduction letter they gave a contact number for use with "WhatsApp". This was very disappointing. Regarding my stay at The Queens Hotel Chester on the 6,7 & 8 December I have spent many stays at the Best Western hotels, all of them with noground for complaints un til now. I have got 4 complaints; 1,On arrival we booked in as normal and the staff were great as normal. I normally book bed and breakfast leaving me with the flexibility to have an evening meal in the hotel or to go further a field, however, on this occasion when I requested a reservation for an evening meal I was informed that I could not have one do to a function. This was in spite being advised in writing, in my introduction letter, that it would be possible to have an evening meal in the Kings Grill restaurant. On the second evening the restaurant was hardly being used and I asked the member of staff who was controlling the restaurant if it was possible to have an evening meal as they were not busy. Only to be told that unless when booking the hotel I had asked for bed , breakfast and evening meal I could not have an evening meal. In all m y years I have not had this problem, normally the hotels were only too glad to have an extra sitting and the money that would bring in. 2, On entering the room it was cold and the heating system did not work. It was only when another person. Who was on the same floor, went to reception and complained. After a couple of hours the heating system appeared to be functioning. 3, The lifts failed on the 7 & 8 December and I had to carry baggage down from the 5th floor (at the age of 76 this was not ideal). 4, I could no longer phone down to reception if I needed any assistance had a query I had to use “WhatsApp”

"Not wheelchair friendly, better places in Chester to dine"
salstersadventures, 04 Décembre 2022

Not wheelchair friendly, better accessible places to visit in Chester I parked at the front of the hotel (please note that there are no disabled bays at all). I could see from the car that there were steps leading up to the entrance. I called the hotel to see where the accessible entrance was and if I should park else where… there was no answer. I got the wheelchair out, wheeled to the entrance, perhaps there was a doorman. Nope. There was however a call button for disabled access assistance. Again no answer. Long story short, disabled access was a “short” 4 minute push round the block. (I was unable to access through the carpark via the arches due to there being no dropped kerb) No accessible toilets could be found despite asking staff. I had dinner then had to leave promptly for home to use the bathroom cutting my evening short. Disappointed and will eat elsewhere in Chester next time

"Disappointed"
Scenic561536, 04 Décembre 2022

Booked on a Black Friday deal, and bought our 2 small dogs. The first room was horrendous, no shampoo/body wash etc, dirty, old and shabby, I wouldn't even want my dogs in there. They then changed us to the new part of the hotel this was a lot nicer thank goodness! We messaged room service for a drink and they bought this up, later that night we ordered some food and waited 1.5 hours for a reply to which I then cancelled the order with it being past 9pm.. overall not great and wouldn't come back.

"DINGY - NOT WORTH £150.00 ONLY WORTH .£50.00"
bonzab662, 02 Décembre 2022

Worst hotel I've stayed in. Dingy room, decor shoddy, parts of furniture ripped. Cleanliness not up to reasonable std. Whole place needs refurbishing, not worth 150.00. £60.00 at most. Asked for upgrade and was told they are fully booked. Doesn't take a genius to work out whose got the best rooms. Disgusting service.

"Super stay at The Queen, Chester"
PJC_TV, 02 Décembre 2022

Fabulous stay at the Queen Hotel Chester. Lovely hotel, great charm and character and super staff. Our room was great - spacious & comfy. Particular mention to Eliza on reception who sorted the reservation issue quickly and easily - no fuss and great customer service. Also to Carla at breakfast, whose energy gave us a lovely boost in starting our day. We'll be back! Paul and Tracey - Room 301.

"Lovely two days of comfort "
514paulinem, 02 Décembre 2022

Very clean comfortable spacious room. The staff were very pleasant especially the gentleman at breakfast, who takes you to a seat and is very polite. Lovely two day stay. I would recommend this hotel for anyone going to Chester.

"Not to standard"
AIMEEB_9, 30 Novembre 2022

We crooked this as part of then2-1 offer. We booked the premium room as it was also my 50th (but not the main reason) On arrival first impression was a lovely grand hotel with lots of quirky features. We arrived about 3pm and was asked to wait as the rooms were not ready until 4. This was ok as we took advantage of the happy hour. Once we actually got our key we heading to the long walk to the new section of the hotel. It was freezing , the main areas were just very cold . This is the first hotel over stayed at where I've felt this (I've stayed at a few in the last few months ) Another negative is the stairs to the floors. We was on the 6th , the carpet was badly worn and the lights hanging off the wall. Once in our room I noticed that there was no toilet seat (in addition it was dirty on the units , dried milk down the side of the desk area ) I asked to be moved and that was honoured , this time the room was better but it was freezing and I could not set the heating . By this time it was late and we would have been late for dinner so left it and went. Breakfast was in my opinion vile ,,having stayed in the best Wes tern in Buxton where their breakfasts are Devine I was truly disappointed and can only describe the food as stale, greasy and mass produced. I lefts the majority and didn't bother on day two. Overall friendly staff just badly let down by the std of the hotel

"Top Quality"
Leytonken, 30 Novembre 2022

What a great hotel this is !!!. This is a massive hotel by the railway station, the room we had was really nice, the dining room was good with friendly staff, the breakfast was really good. When we go back to Chester we will stay there again.

"We couldn't stay but good service "
yat200, 27 Novembre 2022

We arrived at the Queen's hotel Chester knowing that there is two sections, the old and new. We assumed before arriving that our reservation for a twin room was in the new section, however closer to our arrival we realised this was not the case. When we arrived we requested if we could be upgraded and would have been happy to pay for this, however the hotel was fully booked so not possible. We arrived in our room and to our horror the reviews are correct, the room was not to the cleanliness standard we expected. It's extremely dated and the bathroom towels looked like they had been used to mop up a barbers floor. The bathtub had yellow staining and toilet also full of hair. Went back to reception and they were very understanding but couldn't do anything as they were fully booked, I believe that if they could of moved us they would have, all credit to them. They offered a full refund for our 2 night stay which we accepted and went to the premier Inn down the road. Great staff, not so good room.

"Just not quite great"
AmethystRainbow, 21 Novembre 2022

We booked a superior double and if it was 4 in a Bed there would be a small underpayment as it just wasnt quite worth the cost Stayed in the new part of the hotel and the room was nice, spacious and clean. For the price I would expect better quality tea bags and coffee in the room, definitely biscuits and as standard sachets of hot choc. There was a pod machine but no small cups or indication what the pods were. The bed was very comfy, bath huge and dressing gowns comfy. All staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was super. Just needed those little extras I would expect from a Superior room

"Staff and other issues let the place down"
Natalie D, 20 Novembre 2022

For the price we paid, the hotel is actually very outdated. The entrance and reception and restaurants look lovely but the corridors and rooms are like stepping back in time. This isn't what I would call a premier hotel. Staff at Saturday afternoon check-in were great and the parking is very good value at £12 for 24 hours - left the car there all the next day :) Our room had no heating, we were cold before even leaving for the evening, but were ensured by a lady at reception around 7pm, that the radiator would be looked at and that a heater and extra blankets would be brought to our room if it couldn't be sorted. Returned home just before midnight to a freezing room with no heating, no heater and no blankets. Very poor. To top that, we couldn't then fall asleep for the loud music of the christmas parties going on downstairs. Could people not attending the party evenings be situated in a quieter part of the hotel? Can people not be advised at the time of booking about the noise? No staff on reception or way of phoning from the room phone. Tried 2 best western numbers and left a message to complain at around 1am. Nobody got to me. I 100% would not stay here again, for the price especially.

"DISIMPROVED "
Pioneer35816033954, 19 Novembre 2022

notice on door of gents toilet opposite main hotel bar reads "out of order" actually one cubicle is locked as "out of order" but the other isn't and is operating "normally" as are the three urinals hotel has sadly gone right down in recent years

"Great experience in a beautiful historical building."
daz404303, 17 Novembre 2022

What an experience! Breathtaking walking into Reception. It's ike stepping back in time but with all the mod cons we expect these days. The staff are lovely. Rooms immaculate and well presented. Breakfast very filling. In a great spot right opposite the train station. We will definitely be back

"Not the Hotel it once was!"
lorraine m, 17 Novembre 2022

Having stayed at this hotel several times before (pre-lockdown) we had high expectations and assumed we could rely on that and the 4* rating to ensure another great stay. However we were disappointed. The inside of the hotel looked grubby in places eg inside the lift and also our room all of which looked like it needed a really deep clean and hadn't had one in ages . There was dust hanging from the ceiling in our room dressing table dirty (we cleaned it ourselves, wallpaper hanging off the ceiling. We had a room in the older part of the hotel which meant the lift didn't fully reach it and we had an extra flight of stairs to manually carry our cases . Also in our room was a fire exit staircase with a curtain across which was hanging off the rail, dirty and all frayed at the bottom looking shabby. Also after checking in every other time we passed the reception not one member of staff said good morning or good evening. The only person who did acknowledge us was the cleaning lady in the lobby who said good morning on 2 occasions. Needless to say we will not come back to this hotel feeling highly disappointed with it all. For us and especially in these times hygiene has to be paramount and clearly not in this hotel. Which led to disappointment.

"Two night stay"
AndrewCookUK, 17 Novembre 2022

Pleasant stay, good location directly opposite railway station and a short walk into the city centre. Excellent breakfast with really friendly staff. Good room and bathroom…..but a bit of a walk from the reception/lobby area. And some weird decor around the hotel !

"Hotel or Museum"
alanhJ5458OT, 14 Novembre 2022

We loved our stay here. This hotel is like a museum, with statues and painting at every turn. All the rooms in the wing where we stayed are named after princes and princesses, with a portrait and write up of them in the room. Looking forward to our next stay.

"Not clean and they know that"
asssunta, 13 Novembre 2022

Terrible. My expectations were very high for this hôtel. I can be very flexible, but a not cleaned room is not acceptable. I requested to change room and I can confirm at the réception they were not surprised to hear that the room was dirty. Breakfast acceptable but with a terrible coffee.

"Fantastic stay again"
louisebrannigan70, 07 Novembre 2022

From check in to check out our stay was fantastic. The reception staff were efficient and friendly. The bar and restaraunt staff were equally fantastic. The room was clean and we had snacks available in the room as well as water , tea & coffee. The food was gorgeous. Will definitely recommend the hotel to friends and family.

"Night away"
sharoncampbell665, 06 Novembre 2022

I came here on my own and as soon as entered I felt at ease Nothing was any trouble for the staff The room was beautiful The evening meal I couldn't fault The breakfast was fantastic a lot of choices and fresh I would recommend this to anyone I will definitely be coming back

"Standards are slipping"
Mr_Candid, 06 Novembre 2022

We have stayed at the Queens before and this time decided to treat ourselves to an executive room, paying quite a bit more as it was a special occasion. We were annoyed not only to have to pay for car parking but with the way this was handled by the receptionist, who, if we were to be kind to him. was 'blunt and unsympathetic' when we queried the charge, being under the impression that it was included in the room rate. We have decided that we will stay in the Queens again when we travel by train because of it's position close to the railway station but not when we travel by car because of this charge. When we arrived at the room it looked good - a large room nicely furnished - but we soon discovered numerous problems which showed that either the chambermaid hadn't bothered to report the shortcomings or management hadn't bothered to put them right. There was no shower gel and when I tried to report this I found that the telephone didn't work because the plug & socket was broken and the phone couldn't even be plugged in. I went to reception to report this and was told that I should have used my own phone to speak to them - ok I could have done this but it's not really what you would expect from a 4* hotel. There was no toilet roll holder either, which wasn't a major problem but again not what you would expect from a 4* hotel. Finally, we discovered that the inside of the wardrobe was smashed. So disappointing to say the least, and certainly not up to 4* standard even for a cheap room, never mind an 'executive' room.

"A great stay in Chester"
935samuell, 05 Novembre 2022

Stayed 1 night (Friday to Saturday). We stayed in the Kings building on the fifth floor (French Kings) in room 1510 (Napoleon 1st). We were checked in efficiently and politely, we struggled a little to find our room as the Kings building is a separate block linked to the hotel via several corridors. The room was a superior king room and well worth the money, nice bed, lovely and warm room, snacks, robes, nice bathroom. A couple of extra towels would have helped as the shower door didn't shut and the shower tray kept filling up (you might want to check the shower trap, it was quite the hairy monster when lifted, which would explain why the tray wouldn't drain!). One of the major pluses were the staff. Without exception, all the staff we met were super friendly, efficient and kind. The staff at breakfast were great! Excellent work all of you, you are a credit to the hotel.

"Beautiful hotel"
kathryn c, 29 Octobre 2022

What a beautiful hotel in a fabulous location, ten min stroll to the actual centre. Rooms were very nice and clean with all amenities for a brew and a nice touch with the chocolate bars and crisps. Beds were very comfortable, we would have given 5 stars but unfortunately our sleep was interrupted at 03am by some extremely loud females having an almighty row at the top of their voices right outside our room in the corridor. Apart from these inconsiderate people we had a very pleasant stay.

"Looks can be deceiving"
115paulinerk, 27 Octobre 2022

Initial thoughts were WOW what a lovely hotel. The room was large and the bed seemed comfortable. That's pretty much where it ended. Zero ventilation in the bathroom meant mould and a sagging ceiling - along with no shower curtain meaning water everywhere. The hand wash was empty and the moisturiser pump was broken. We asked for the room to be serviced (because it doesn't get done if you don't) - this amounted to clean towels, empty bins and a toilet clean. We also had a handful of coffee tea sugar and milk just thrown (literally) on the table even though we had not used what was already there! I don't travel half way across the world for a holiday to make my own bed! Breakfast was good and the staff friendly but the hotel was a total let down for the cost.

"Absolutely Fantastic"
JoanWhyte, 26 Octobre 2022

This is our third visit to this hotel and it is one of the nicest we have ever stayed in. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The food was great at both breakfast time and in the evening. Oh and at lunchtime in the bar we had a lovely mid day snack. Our room was lovely so spacious and clean. Perfect.

"Great stay , friendly staff, very clean"
SeanH3059, 24 Octobre 2022

Stay was great. Not much around after dark in the area but close to the centre and opposite the station . Room was expensive and bar wasn't open late but staff were all very friendly indeed and it was very clean and tidy. Lovely interior to the building

"A little disappointed"
julieanneSussex, 23 Octobre 2022

Always had a good experience with Best Western but disappointed this time. The room was huge yet there were no drawers to put clothes in. The bed was superking, the duvet cover was superking but only contained a double duvet. Lovely sofa in room but would have been nice to have a small table to use for drinks et when sitting on sofa. Cobwebs.

"Disappointed and basic"
trevorg814, 20 Octobre 2022

Just returned from a two day stay at the hotel with work. This hotel is centrally located next to the railway station. A typical hotel that caters for coach tours and corporate types. My room was on the ground floor of the main building. First of all the room was average and basic. Not serviced over two days either? Rubber bath mat was mouldy and dirty on the bottom. Window would not open either. The main issue was the strong smell of cannabis in the corridor that was a constant throughout my stay. In addition the room next door had a noisy room party as it was full of some Eastern European workers. Went quiet after midnight however. Would not recommend this hotel unless your on a budget. Premier inns are far superior in my opinion. Food and drink : Beer in the bar “real ale” was rank ! Food was ok but service was slow two hours for a two course meal to be gotten through. Breakfast was good though. Staff were polite throughout. Car parking is expensive £15 per night and not very secure.

"Motorcycle Club Weekend."
H4027NFjohnl, 19 Octobre 2022

The wife and I had a fantastic long weekend here with the P.E.M.C. motorcycle club. Everything was absolutely perfect. The food was amazing. The staff were fantastic and could not do enough for us. The room was nice and clean with a coffee pod machine which we liked. Extra pods was given when we asked for them. I arrived on the Thursday and took advantage of the 2 for 1 in the bar. It was an easy walk into the center of Chester.

"Excellent in its class"
An_Old_Burian, 18 Octobre 2022

We have been to a number of hotels this year and this is the first that has managed to successfully get their restaurant up and running to pre-covid standards.........most of the others have had the staff but they lack proper training or management.........the staff and management in the Queens restaurant are doing an excellent job !!! Otherwise the hotel has good facilities, is clean and the bedrooms well equipped / furnished although ours was rather "tight"

"Meeting of great minds"
SIRDAMIEN1, 17 Octobre 2022

On arrival met with smiling faces, everyone was welcoming. Shown to our room where coffee's, teas and pastries laid out appetisingly. Communicated what the itinerary was for the day and if we wished to tweak it. Service was always served with a smile. The food and drink was excellent and a special mention must go to our host ROWENA who catered for our every need.

"Over charged and dirty bath"
Kath J, 15 Octobre 2022

The hotel staff very helpful and friendly. Luggage taken to our room. All was well until we came back from exploring Chester. The girl on the desk was very chatty and said that they had taken a payment from my credit card and that we needed to pay the balance for the two rooms. We did this and went to our rooms. Rooms very well furnished except our windows didn't open and the air con didn't work. Also my bedside light was faulty and the lovely flat screen telly faced the wrong way and was difficult to watch. On checking my banking app the following day I realized that we had in fact been overcharged for the rooms by £96. I decided to have a shower then nip down to reception. On lifting the shower mat following my shower I discovered long auburn hairs in the bottom of the bath and bath mat. When I arrived at the reception and spoke to the receptionist, she was very off hand and quire rude. She refunded the money no explanation or apology. When I said about the hair in the bath she said I will tell house keeping and started to serve the next customer. We went out for a few hours and arrived back around 2pm. On entering our room it was clear that no one had been to the room. So back down again. Spoke to a different member of staff who spoke to house keeping straight away. The bath was cleaned and a new bath mat given. The hotel is beautiful, but it's the little things that let it down.

"Conference room visit"
E4596THmarkh, 14 Octobre 2022

I've recently been using the Prince Albert conferencing room in the Queen's that was hired by my employer for several weeks to facilitate training. The room has been presented immaculately as requested every single morning and Carly their fantastic team member has kept us fed and watered twice a day with snacks and drinks and been polite, friendly and attentive every single day. Thanks Carly and the rest of the team!

"Enjoyable stay."
Barnaby21, 12 Octobre 2022

Lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay again. We ate in the restaurant both nights and whilst the food was good it took a very long time to arrive. Not a major problem as we were not in a rush but we witnessed other couples complaining on both nights. Hopefully just a temporary blip.

"Dirty rooms"
Y1584OEkellyg, 10 Octobre 2022

Stayed here for a trip to the races with our friend from America. As a 4* hotel we had good expectations. On arrival reception area was beautiful. We was allocated room 150. Great sized room. Very dated but thought this due to the ‘theme' of the hotel. Went to the use the bathroom and it was dirty… soiled toilet, ground in urine on floor, ground in dirt on door; looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months ,addressed with reception who advised a cleaner will clean whilst we was out. It wasn't much better after cleaned. We asked if room could be changed but they were overbooked. In the night we had to get duty manager to room as there were things running around bathroom floor. He advised they were silverfish. Wasn't a pleasant nights sleep. Again asked reception to have room deep cleaned whilst we was out. They advised the supervisor is going to do it personally. When we returned it did smell of bleach and toilet had had new seal around it. To be honest it needed a miracle. Still over run with silverfish too. On check out I asked for manager who was ‘busy' and general manager would get back to me. 3 weeks on and several calls and emails still no response my advise would be stay clear of this hell hole. It is the dirtiest hotel Iv ever stayed in. And we had to pay to stay there. No apology no communication even whilst there the team didn't seem to care

"Not for us"
SavageSavs, 09 Octobre 2022

This was our second time staying here and last, check in is 4pm we checked in at 6pm so you would think plenty of time for your room to be ready, we checked in and went to our room which clearly had not been made up from the previous guest, the used toilet was disgusting and the bedding was how they had got up and left it, told the young girl on reception who was very apologetic and got someone to sort it, not a very good first impression sadly. The bath leaked so water constantly on the bathroom floor. You have 1 toilet roll between 2 for the weekend which simply isn't enough. The young lads who work behind the bar are lovely and good fun, the only things really good about this hotel. Would not recommend or stay here again. Location is ideal if using the train. Rooms are ok.

"This hotel we found to be beautiful"
Sandra22446698, 08 Octobre 2022

We walked into this hotel, and were so delighted, it's not only beautiful, atmospheric and interesting, but the staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. Every single one of them. Food is fresh and abundant. Rooms spacious, nicely decorated and clean. Beds very comfortable. I cannot fault this hotel. We spent a lot of time just taking everything in. ..The public rooms, the garden, the decor, the interesting information all about. We had what I can only say was a wonderful stay. We loved it. One tiny critisism, for bus tours, breakfast is too early at 7:30. It means for us anyway, waking at 6:30.

"Perfect location"
Susan H, 04 Octobre 2022

A friend and I stayed at the Queen on Sunday night. We travelled by train so the location is perfect for us. We were going to see a play at a venue about half an hour`s walk away. Our room was billed as a "standard room" but we were very impressed. It was in the King`s section of the hotel, where each room is named after a Scottish king. We were rather glad not to be in the Macbeth room! The beds were comfortable and the bathroom had both a bath and a shower, which is quite unusual. The room was rather warm so we had windows open, which made it rather noisy in the morning when deliveries arrived and the refuse collecting waggon came but, by that time, we were ready to get up anyway. The reception staff were pleasant, polite and helpful - in particular, Tom, who gave us a map and directions to get to the venue for the play. Breakfast was abundant and delicious. We have stayed before and we will stay again.

"Chester Visit"
V9300ALkevinb, 29 Septembre 2022

Our first visit to Chester. Stayed for 2 nights. The superior King room was a good sixed room with plenty of storage space. The bed was comfy and the ensuite was good. The windows in our room were not very good though, they let a lot of wind and noise through them. Some looked like they were bodged up to seal them. All other aspects of the room were good. The breakfasts had a good choice of food. The hot food was only warm. For the price paid it was good value for the money despite the faults. Would book again if staying in the area.

"Disappointing"
962me, 28 Septembre 2022

Although the reception , restaurant and bar areas are well maintained and welcoming the same unfortunately could not be said of room . Cracked tiles stained carpet and loose taps to mention just a few things. Plus point good position for wandering around Expected better for a B W premier collection

"Lovely visit"
tabathar2014, 27 Septembre 2022

I stayed here for 2 nights a Monday and Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised at how nice the room was, very comfy bed, lovely linen and pillows, nice bath and amenities, Plenty of towels and tea coffee things. Lovely breakfast lots of choice even gave me lactose free milk and checked with the chef which hot items I could have * all of them* the hash browns were especially nice. Friendly helpful staff Downsides were tv was fixed so couldn't see it from the bed but that's just my preference and there wasn't much hand soap when I got there but they sorted that quickly through the WhatsApp system. Really enjoyed my stay would book again!

"Food very good, accommodation requires improvement"
Paul J, 25 Septembre 2022

The reason for my mother and I staying at the Queens hotel, Chester was that it was convenient for the wedding we where attending at Chester zoo, and that it had been recommended, and as such the earliest we could gauge the hotel facilities was on our return. Whilst our rooms where clean and tidy they had a number of quality issues: broken floorboards; lights not working; tv not programmed; sink plug tarnished; toilet cistern not sealed to wall leaving a gap that could be a breeding ground for germs; curtains do not totally close as due to their weight and height they cannot be totally closed by had, that they require to be cord operated; that in September the summer duvets are replaced by a winter duvet; no booklet in the room explaining how the room facilities eg shower work, what the hotel has to offer and/or Chester itself. If the hotel is to improve it needs to close rooms one by one or floor by floor to bring itself back up to it's previous standard. Whilst the hotel is centrally located and the food is very good, currently I would probably not stay there for more than one or two nights, since the hotel appears to be there more for business travellers and the racing fraternity.

Great location good staff and services, excellent food, plenty of seating areas around hotel, bedroom was a good size, comfortable beds, nice touch was a pod coffee machine in the room. Lots of outdoor seating in good surroundings for good weather.

"Fantastic hotel"
southy42, 18 Septembre 2022

Stayed 2 nights, hopped off the train and hotel was over the road, friendly welcome from the receptionist, got a ground floor room, facilities were quite basic, but the decor and pictures took me back to a more regal age, tea and coffee provided in the room. The bed was very comfortable. Could get a bit noisy at busy times, but was quiet throughout the night, we faced a courtyard which was ornamental, and even witnessed a wedding there, had a little peek. The best bit was the breakfast, buffet style, everything in plentiful supply, friendly staff and background music very relaxing, had a full English both days and it tasted lovely. Short walk through the underpass into the centre which is one of the best town centres in the country.

"Staff exceptional"
Clare S, 18 Septembre 2022

The staff here we're exceptional. They were all very polite and friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable. We had our large dog with us and stayed for 2 nights. We were made very welcome and have every intention of using The Queen Hotel again.

"Once, It Was Grand"
Boyd J, 18 Septembre 2022

It once was grand but needs something of a refresh and upgrade. We had a very large room, but there are small things lacking. It's a bit tired, there were no glasses in our room at all. As a 4 star hotel there was no complementary water. Wifi is very slow. Getting the tv to work required a more tech savvy person than me. The dining room has tables very close together - forget social distancing especially when several coachloads of tourists are all having breakfast together. It does have a rather grand staircase though and is near the railway station

"QUAINT QUEEN"
T7688MFheleng, 18 Septembre 2022

Just arrived back from a four night coach trip stay at this hotel. Check in was very easy and quick the staff had everything well organised they even took the cases to our rooms - thank you. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. The breakfast was self service which was no real problem and plenty to choose from. Evenings meals were lovely perhaps a bit more of a choice would have been nice. The only thing that was a real let down was the room cleaning. We did know that there was no room cleaning and if you required this service you had to ask at reception. After asking for this to be done unfortunately this did not happen and it seems that other members on the bus party had the same problem. At one stage we had no clean towels or toilet paper. After three attempts of asking eventually a gent brought the said items to the room. After all this hotel does come under the Premier Collection? Hotel well situated for town centre and train station. Would we return - maybe.

"A case of style over substance."
ilovetravel_1989, 14 Septembre 2022

Really gorgeous hotel with some very grand looking rooms and gorgeous art work but the basics were lacking..... - Breakfast tables were very cramped together making navigating your way through difficult and frustrating. - Cleanliness of the room was lacking (remote was sticky and the bathroom shaving mirror very dusty). - Carpet was poorly laid so I tripped over it whilst getting up during the night. - We were woken up on the last morning by domestic staff shouting to each other and banging doors whilst cleaning rooms. - The rooms were very far away from reception and it was fairly difficult to find your way around which wasn't an issue for us but clearly was for some of the older guests. - Hotel staff were having a heated disagreement on the phone in reception whilst we checking out. Having said that they have a hotel cat called Queenie and she made up for most the of the failings.

"Quirky, well located and worth a visit"
Lexa13, 12 Septembre 2022

We stayed in the Princes Fahmy Bey room which told a great tale! The room exceeded expectations as did the staff and food. Well located and would return! Had reservations after reading some negative reviews but completely the opposite experience. Very enjoyable and a great team!

"4 night stay"
swanseajackSwansea, 12 Septembre 2022

i have travelled all over the world and stayed in many hotels but this is the first that i had to ask for room service. there is only one lift and that is small and slow. this hotel is also a bit dated could do with good renovation.

"Stunning hotel - so welcoming"
H9066HDirenec, 10 Septembre 2022

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at this beautiful hotel. Initially I wasn't too sure I had arrived at the right place since I had booked a wowcher deal and this just seemed too good. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and all gave a friendly acknowledgement from reception to cleaners. The whole place was absolutely stunning and so quirky too. We stayed in the Kings Quarters in the King Duncan room which had a big portrait of this king set in a tartan backdrop and framed history and other material relating to him. very comfy bed and beautiful decor throughout. Large bathroom with seperate bath and walk in shower. Plus bathrobes provided which is always a nice touch. We had a complimentary bottle of prosecco waiting for us in an ice bucket. Also a bag of Pipers crisps and a twix were welcome bonus. We had booked a meal out in Chester but with hindsight think may have been better to eat in since the menu looked very promising and the breakfast we had gave insight to the high standards of food and service on offer. The Buffet Breakfast was a joy, all manner of popular cereals available in addition to porridge and other healthy cereals. Sliced melon and fruit salad were available as we're a tray of salami and cheeses, bread, croissants, pastries etc. The hot buffet was also very good quality bacon and sausage alongside eggs, beans. tomatoes, mushrooms and hash browns. We did not need to checkout until 1pm which was nice and allowed us to take full advantage of a relaxing stroll though the ornate gardens full of large statues and fountains. This is definitely a hotel we will aim to stay at again and so handy for the train station (just across the road) so no need to bring the car.

"Queen of Chester"
Dafed-H, 09 Septembre 2022

Stayed 4 times and enjoyed my stays, staff, rooms, food and cleanliness very good, any problems soon resolved, loved the courtyard area, quick and easy access to the city shops and tourist areas. Will return

"A very disappointing experience."
valhapgood, 06 Septembre 2022

When making our booking we requested 2 twin rooms close to each other which was ignored. Our bedroom nor bathroom had not been cleaned satisfactory as there were items from the previous guests on the floor. After complaining twice to Reception before it was rectified we were offered 50% discount and a drink at the bar... This was withdrawn in the morning but was offered a refund for our breakfast as a kind gesture. The beautiful photos of the bedrooms advertised do not reflect the room we stayed in. We will not recommend this hotel.

"Wedding stay"
debbie r, 04 Septembre 2022

Checked in for a wedding. Did not really use all facilities. Allocated a room at front of hotel. Woken at 6am with all traffic for train station. Breakfast is excellent . Great choice and service. Drinks at reception are very expensive. Low score is given due to no sleep. Would recommend not being allocated a room at front of hotel.

"wonderful quirky hotel"
jenirats, 02 Septembre 2022

I loved this hotel with it statues and other wonderful objects. Our room was in the annex , its was big with a table and chairs and a bathroom with both a bath and a shower. Its decor was super and we learned a bit more about the Chinese Emporer Kangxi , to whom our room was dedicated , than we had ever known before. A minus for us was the price of the breakfast ,which as we don't eat much at this time of day was too expensive. There didn't seem to be a cheaper continental option like many hotels so we breakfasted elaswhere. Another minus was the constant stream of emails received by my husband suggesting we bid to upgrade, they didn't really explain what the upgrade entailed and were very annoying. Having said this we both loved being in this hotel , we loved its little patios full of strange objects and we will certainly be back.

"Lovely hotel"
Kim E, 01 Septembre 2022

Booked 1 night with family but unfortunately they were unable to make it. Checked in and there was a problem with our room. We were told to return at 4pm at which point we were provided with a free upgrade. Stunning hotel with good sized rooms. Our only issue was the noise from outside. Breakfast was fabulous. Will definitely stay again and remember to bring ear plugs

"Stay at Queen of Chester Hotel"
suzanneeskinsbus2022, 01 Septembre 2022

Very Good, location was great, Breakfast was excellent, Very clean and staff were very helpful and friendly. Only disappointment was we were unable to charge any food or drinks to our room. Would definitely stay at the hotel again.

"Great location and quirky hotel"
allisonmiller, 29 Août 2022

Arrived at the hotel and the location is superb. Right next to the train station if you don't drive. Checked in and was greeted by a lovely young lady called Eliza who wished us both a happy anniversary. Swift check in and had a really nice , modern room. The bathroom was just perfect ! Hot running water. Shortly after we settled in our room, Eliza arrived with a chilled bottle of Prosecco which was amazing . Self serve buffet at breakfast but I think a bigger selection of cold options is needed. We normally stay in the doubletree Hilton but staying in the queens we realise it's a far better location, 7 minute walk into Chester town centre

"Not a pleasurable experience from a top rated hotel chain."
RayW712, 25 Août 2022

This review is more about the outsourced cleaning contractors than the hotel itself as the staff were all very professional & helpful in resolving our issues. Big thanks to Mathew, Lynsey & Clara. Basically, the first 2 rooms we were given were dirty, dusty & damaged & certainly not cleaned to a decent standard. The third room was okay but still not up to the levels of cleanliness we expected from Best Western Hotels. Dust/dirt prevailed in several areas of the room especially under the radiator. The bathroom had stains in the shower & the toilet brush….well, say no more. Whoever cleans these rooms are not doing it to an acceptable level & whoever checks these rooms to make sure they are ready for guests needs to step up & do it properly. I don't think outsourcing is the answer here, in-house cleaners would be preferable as they are part of the team. Come on Best Western, get your act together.

"Terrible service, hard I padded bed. No heat, no ac, no fan."
Max S, 24 Août 2022

In spite of being pretty rooms and property was really hard to sleep. Warm weather and no central heat or a/c. No fan. Beds CrAzy hard and unpacked. Promised to fix hvac but never did. Half of our group of 20 had same issues Has to be better choices nearby

"Lovely"
randomtraveller017, 21 Août 2022

Stayed the night here whilst shopping in Chester. The rooms were lovely and the food top notch. The staff were all awesome. Friendly efficient and always ready to help. The rooms were of course hot but it's a heat wave my own house is hot. Place is convenient for the centre and trains so the perfect spot for us. Will definitely be back.

"Luxury accommodation"

Beautiful and relaxing stay at luxury hotel - superb service in unique historic hotel. Good value in centre of city and walking distance to major sites . Quiet hotel despite having many guests - very stylish hotel

Relax45407596466, 19 Août 2022

Booked a 2 night stay in a suite, seamless check in, lovely receptionist who was helpful and checked us in efficiently. Suite was lovely, complimentary prosecco much appreciated. Breakfast superb the following morning by efficient staff. Will be returning thank you!

"Disappointed"
sheillamonaghan, 18 Août 2022

Whilst your photos look amazing of your hotel I'm sorry to say that my husband and I were very disappointed with the room we were allocated on arrival .The toilet wasn't clean ,there was so much dust around TV and although we expected 4 star accommodation we were sorely disappointed. Girl from reception was so helpful and got us upgrade, otherwise it would have been very disappointing few days away. We travelled with an escorted coach tour and truthfully we will not be back ,food was deplorable on first night and even with slight improvement over the next few nights I simply cannot recommend this venue .We are not alone in this as the people we travelled with were also disappointed with almost everything of the stay.

denisejN7045HU, 18 Août 2022

I was dropping my sons off at the station and thought I would call in for a coffee with them before the train arrived. We had to be quick as now you can only park outside the hotel for 20 mins. The Barrister or Bar man took so long to make the it that we were getting worried in case I got a ticket as police are parked all over the area. 15 mins later still no coffee so asked if they had a car park attached to the hotel, it was round the corner and cost £3 min for a short time so didn't bother, threw the drinks down and got out quick. No such thing as customer service and shame on the local council for introducing that 20 min parking time, never seen that before!!!

"A wonderful celebratory stay!"
516Danielle, 15 Août 2022

I've just returned from a one night stay and I couldn't have asked for more. I'd booked a stay in the hotel as my mum wanted to visit Chester to celebrate her birthday. From the moment that we entered the hotel, the staff were friendly and attentive to our needs. I'd booked a Sunday night package and they gave us a complimentary room upgrade to an executive twin. The room was beautiful and we had a bottle of prosecco on ice waiting for us when we arrived, as well as complimentary snacks. It was fully air conditioned and the decor was very tasteful with the bathroom facilities immaculately clean. I had been worried about cleanliness and modernity after booking and then reading some less positive reviews but our experience was completely contrary so I needn't have. It was perfect. The hotel has a lovely secluded courtyard to sit out in and parking was unexpectedly easy with a large carpark to the rear. I was able to prebook a parking space online. Dinner was lovely with a wide choice of dishes available and the hotel even went to the special extent of presenting my mum with a special birthday message dessert. I was particularly impressed that this had been noted as I had only mentioned the reason for our visit at the point of booking. Again, the waiting staff were lovely and couldn't have done more for us. This morning, breakfast was similar with a great choice of continental and hot breakfast choices buffet style. I would definitely recommend the hotel and should we visit Chester again it'll be our first choice. Thank you for hosting us and making my mum's birthday celebrations so special.

"Amazing!Huge thank you to the staff!!"
16LeilaniRamirez, 14 Août 2022

Stayed for one night and I'm in love with this hotel. The staff is super helpful, friendly and polite, the food is delicious and the decoration of the hotel amazing. Will be definitely coming back! Thanks!

"Lovely hotel beautiful decor"
Susan W, 11 Août 2022

Had a lovely stay. Got a nice warm welcome at reception and the lovely lady changed our room which was gorgeous. The decor in the whole hotel is stunning and the rooms feel very luxurious. We loved the outside courtyard for a drink. The breakfast was excellent with a good choice and all nice and hot. It's a large hotel and we stayed in a newer block and the rooms have been well thought out but same the beds are so firm. Handy location near the station and 15 walk into the city. Would definitely stay again.

"Great hotel"
Littlekazzy, 09 Août 2022

Brilliant place to stay, fab service, room enormous, food great. A real lovely hotel. Near to centre of Chester and directly opposite the railway station. All of the staff were polite, friendly and professional.

"Great Stay"

Lovely hotel and great staff - hotel desperately needs a refurbishment. Comfortable bed. Great shower. Breakfast lots of choice. Guy on reception very helpful and lady at breakfast had amazing customer service skills

"AVOID AVOID AVOID"
SallyRich, 05 Août 2022

On arrival we were impressed with the hotel, location and parking albeit expensive easy to find and close the the train station. That's where it goes down hill, we were allocated a room on the top floor of the ‘old' side of the building. When we got to the room it had toilet roll down the toilet and didn't flush, and mould all around the bathroom. The temperature in the room was stifling hot, and the window would only open approx 2cm. We asked to move rooms due to the heat as it was just not bareable, we were told the hotel was full so not an option, we then asked for a fan, to be told they were all in use. I questioned about the heat in the room to be told it's just how it is due to the age of the building - why if that's the case if there not a fan in every room? We ended up staying in the hotel lobby until 4am, exhausted and ready for home. The next morning we asked to be moved rooms, which we were but unable to check into the room until 4pm meaning we had 5 hours with no room. The new room was better but still had mould in the bathroom and noticeable dust everywhere. This was a really disappointing stay for us as we had looked forward too it for months. If you're looking for a relaxing few days away with minimal noise and clean surroundings this is not the place for you.

"Beautiful hotel"
alexvicma, 04 Août 2022

Our stay at this hotel was lovely. The staff are very helpful and considerate. Rooms are basic but have everything you need and are tidy. Breakfast was very nice with various choices. Location of hotel was excellent for us as we travelled by train but close enough to walk to the shops, restaurants and bars

"Terrible"
NicDew1, 02 Août 2022

We arrived for a weekend stay in July. The room was awful. The bathroom was filthy, covered in mould and soap scum. The toilet didn't flush, the bathroom door was hanging off and wouldn't close and no shower screen on the bath. The tiles and ceiling full of cracks, wallpaper hanging off in the room. We asked reception for an alternative room to be told there were none and that the hotel was from the 18th century and to expect some “quirks”. I can accept that but basic hygiene wouldn't go amiss. The bathroom wasn't fitted in the 18th century! The receptionist advised they would try and fix the issues once she had checked them. Upon her return I asked if she would pay nearly £300 to spend two nights in that room and her response was no. We simply weren't prepared to spend that money for a disgraceful room and as reception said no other rooms (even though people were being offered upgrades next to us) we opted for a refund and then at 4pm on a Friday had to find alternative accommodation. Terrible experience and would not recommend or return.

"Very poor service"
angiemryan, 01 Août 2022

Despite prepaying/booking there was no room for us.Told to go back after our meal and they would try to'sort something out'no apology.Given a shabby room nothing like those shown on the website .Awful

"Weekend visit"
rodneylaugharne, 31 Juillet 2022

Love Chester and been many times. The main hotel building is stunning however the block around the back needs a re-furb ( worn out stair carpets etc). To sum up the stay, staff were friendly enough and helpful, although 2 attempts to upgrade and have some items placed in the room failed. The upgrade link simply did not communicate with reception, however Tom dealt with this well. The Staff have their work cut out in this place. Our door entry cards persistently failed to work, with one occasion being particularly annoying at 11pm after arriving back from the evening out. The night porter seemed to blame us for the cards, muting they had been next to magnets or phones, however this was not the case. There were numerous customers complaining at reception about this and clearly either the cards or the readers were worn out like everything else in the “ block around the back”. Tv Remote was faulty and the main window latch was broken hence I had to wedge it open for fresh air. The cold water tap came off and wouldn't go back on ( left them with reception at check out) bedside lamp didn't work, resulting in having to turn the TV off by torch light due to remote being useless. Breakfast was good and restaurant and bar staff were friendly enough. The room was not serviced at all between Friday and Sunday, where we ran out of loo roll. Check out was poor and I had to ask for a receipt as the young lady didn't seem interested in providing one, or in going through the bill. Gardens are lovely as are the interesting Roman references. Spend some money on maintenance Best Western and do your hard working, underpaid staff a favour…

"Lovely hotel and great catering for coeliacs"
CSb87, 26 Juillet 2022

The hotel was lovely with great facilities and friendly staff. The room was clean and very comfortable. We had dinner, bed and breakfast included and the restaurant was fabulous. There was an excellent choice of different evening meals and the service was great. I am coeliac and there was plenty of choice for me and as I had declared this at the point of booking, the allergen menu was ready and waiting for me every time we ate there. In the mornings. they cooked my English breakfast to order rather than making me risk cross-contamination at the buffet and were able to offer gluten-free toast. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Chester.

"Long weekend"
lancet1, 25 Juillet 2022

Excellent service and was upgraded into the annexe in a superior room as the first one was in need of a clean. Breakfast was excellent and staff superb especially the reception staff. We went into Chester City centre but thought the high street was a bit scruffy but nice down the river and the racecourse.

"Really enjoyed our stay"
Catherine G, 25 Juillet 2022

The hotel is near the train station and easily accessible to the city centre. Food is really good, Rooms are airy and comfortable. Staff are pleasant and willing to assist visitors. There is a lovely courtyard at the rear of the hotel where guests can relax in comfort away from traffic noise. The bar area is small and not all that comfortable and prices can vary.

"Utterly wonderful!"
Tania R, 24 Juillet 2022

When visiting family, we usually go for cheap and cheerful, however, on this occasion The Queen was the same price as our no-frills choice and my goodness - there was absolutely no comparison! The Queen is quirky, interesting and beautiful and big enough that we didn't hear a peep from other guests. The staff we encountered were, without exception, professional but friendly and seemed genuinely to make it their business that we had a good stay. I'm not sure if we had an upgrade to a better room, but it was on the 7th floor with a great view; had windows that opened; loads of space and great facilities. Breakfast was plentiful and served with a smile. We will definitely be back.

"Excellent"
Georgina H, 23 Juillet 2022

Hotel public areas look amazing, very attentive staff, good service. Particularly Josh and Ben on the bar. Would definitely come here again. Only negatively is room is slightly dusty so could do with a bit more of a clean but only noticed as I am a cleaner myself.

"Hired a meeting room"
brunnian, 20 Juillet 2022

We hired a room at the Day Delegate rate, including a 2-course restaurant meal, and 14 people had what was probably the best meeting we have ever had. The room was large and luxurious (in the modern extension), and regular supplies of tea and coffee were produced. Not just with biscuits, but with bacon rolls in the morning and chocolate bars in the afternoon. Nothing was too much bother for the staff, who were all friendly and cheerful. The hotel is a combination of Victorian splendour and modern luxury, and there is a certain amount of idiosyncratic Kitsch in the decor. It makes them memorable I suppose. I had an excellent meal in the bar the day before, and enjoyed the ease of access from the station. All the rooms are zero step access, once the historic front steps have been negotiated. This is a truly remarkable place to hold a function. Recommended. (PS: I did notice an old friend. Used as a landmark to navigate the corridors, the hotel has a "big chair" - a massively overscaled chair in the chippendale style. I last saw this in the Willowbank hotel in Manchester, when that was a Feathers hotel too)

"Disappointed"
emoss2111, 20 Juillet 2022

Still another night to suffer. I don't know where to start. But the thought of staying another night is filling me with dread. Check in was good, Tom really nice, and gave us all the info around our superior room. Entering the room, windows were wide open, which should have given us a clue to the measure of the air conditioning. It wasn't working. Now I know the hottest day of the year this old building may struggle but at least be honest. The bathroom began to have a horrible fusty smell. So went down to reception at 5pm. The girl on reception said she would send someone up. At 7pm still no visit, on the way out we mentioned it (to Tom) who said we would go spray the room. Breakfast on the following morning, the staff are super friendly, but the breakfast a self service set up, looks tired, dried up and is continually being touched up by cooks to make it looks as good as it can under the hot lights. So far, I'm so disappointed in the Best Western. This hotel has a focus on coach parties. Stick to it. Independent travellers, will probably be suited elsewhere. Special mentions go to Tom on reception. Ken night reception and Josh in the bar.

"Dining disaster. Be alert if food intolerance."
mags346, 19 Juillet 2022

First time staying in hotel. Part of a coach tour. There were 7 in my party which included family and friends. One of our friends is dairy and gluten free which was coveyed to the tour company. First night dining room was busy, we could not all sit together, so my husband and I sat with another couple from the bus. She too had to have a gluten free diet and told the waiting staff at every course as did our friend. Anyway next day our friend had to miss her day trip as she had been up overnight unwell as was the lady who we had sat with. Our friend spoke with staff who apologised. Kitchen knew about special diets and said had been busy, food should have been cooked/served separately. Next 2 nights they were asked and served by the person who appeared to be in charge of dining room. No issues. Last night was the same as the first, our friend kept telling them she was gluten and dairy free but she was served mashed potatoes, which they did take away but she was told would only be able to have the veg and steak. She had been given chips n the other nights. Complained to the on duty manager as it appeared that no lessons had been learnt about the seriousness of the situation. We also found out that night there was another lady from a different party who was unwell and was Lactose intolerant. I would hope that management have looked at the protocols in place and taken steps to ensure this does not happen again. Next time might be more serious.

"3 nights in Chester."
Torroxcampesina, 15 Juillet 2022

We arrived late evening on Thursday July 7. The gentleman at reception was very pleasant. On getting to our " superior room" the disappointments began. For a superior room it was quite small. When going into the bathroom we found that the soap dispensers were empty at both the bath and shower also there were no glasses. The coffee machine had not been emptied of either used capsules or water. Kettle also contained water. Before going out that evening we asked for the soap containers to be filled and for glasses. One dispenser was fitted and glasses arrived. When opening the shower door after use the bath mat became sodden and the floor very wet. In the morning we requested fresh towels and tissues, the box was empty when we arrived. On our return in the late evening fresh towels and tissues were on a chair with the wet ones still on the floor. Consequently we asked for a full service of the room on the Saturday. The other soap dispenser arrived but was not put into its container. Housekeeping exceptionally poor. Breakfast mediocre for a 4 star hotel costing £583 for 3 nights.

"Hit and miss"
katielovestravel84, 15 Juillet 2022

Firstly the pros: very handy location by the station if you are coming in and out by train (not so much if you want to be right in town but I didn't), the staff are lovely, the Waiting room bar is good for a casual meal. Cons: my room was sweltering. It was only about 20 degrees outside max but inside it felt like the heating was on. Had to have the fan running all night as no ac. No plugs anywhere near the bed - bad design and annoying. Room was not the cleanest, found a random shoelace and empty pack of painkillers just under the desk in plain view, plus baked in yellow stains on the bedding. Bathroom had seen better days with dirty grout, but the shower pressure was decent. Overall mixed feeling but I really hate not being able to control the temp in a room, made for a very restless night.

"Nothing is too much bother"
Robert H, 14 Juillet 2022

This is a very busy hotel, dealling with a lot of coach tours and business groups at once. Every single one of the staff was calm, welcoming, smiling and breathtakingly efficient. A problem with my booking - I had booked via the web site - was resolved without demur, and I was given an upgraded room to compensate for the bother (which I had caused not them!). The room was comfortable and well appointed, and the towels were big enough for a big chap - that is not always the case in modern hotels. Because they handle so many people there is a timed slot for breakfasts that you are asked to suggest at checkin. I am not used to this, but it made everything flow smoothly. The breakfast was excellent. If I have any criticism of the room it is the absence of sockets by the bed for phone charging - I was easily able to overcome this. There is step-free access to all of the rooms, although there are three steps up at the main hotel entrance, because it is a historic building round that side. The staff are very helpful over mobility issues. This is an excellent hotel, and I have no hesitation in recommending it.

"Weekend in Chester"
DENISE W, 11 Juillet 2022

We arrived at the hotel but were unable to have our room until 4pm . As we were going to a birthday celebration and then Chester races we had to leave our cases in the room of friends who arrived the day before. We arrived back late and was given the room which had faulty electrics no milk on the hospitality tray and very little tea and the coffee machine had not been cleaned or emptied. We received milk the next day from reception and informed them there was no plug in the bath to which we were told maintenance would be informed. When we received the plug we found the hot water tap did not work .

"Nice Hotel"
David O, 08 Juillet 2022

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed here, we enjoyed it so much we've booked to stay again. The bar need a better selection of real ales plus the relevision need removing from the nain bar.

"Good Situation"
Bill S, 06 Juillet 2022

We stayed here as we were catching an early train the following morning. We were able to leave our bags at the hotel for the day which was very good. The room was very warm but we could not open the windows - at all. Restaurant service was slow considering it was quiet and we did not receive the bottle of wine we ordered but as it was getting lat, decided to leave it and stick to water…. Would stay again as very convenient for the town and train station.

"Quirky, love it"
holliep729, 03 Juillet 2022

Quirky, cute hotel We booked to stay here the day after we got married to have a little down time We stayed in the Queen Elizabeth II room and it was clean and spacious. Bed was super comfy Breakfast was lovely and plentiful. Staff friendly As with any hotel drinks are pricey so be aware of Costs in the hotel bar The decor was brilliant, we loved looking around the place. We're planning to return on our anniversary next year as we loved it so much You're right by the train station too Car parking is expensive but there is a cheaper car park a stone throw away Taxi's cheap to get in to the centre of Chester This was my first time in Chester and it didn't disappoint. Such a lovely place We can't wait to return

"Very nice"
daisychain6, 02 Juillet 2022

Beautiful room and public facing rooms . Staff efficient and friendly . All very clean . Only downside was our bedroom window was open and too high to reach and noise from street outside was quite loud . All amenities provided such as hairdryer iron . Close to city centre using underpass . Tip for anyone else staying with car - book car park online prior to visit we paid £12 for over 24 hours not bad

"Queenly, querky & beautiful"
tara-D1992, 02 Juillet 2022

I had a wonderful stay at The Queen with my mum. The hotel is really beautiful and in such a convenient location. Jessica on the reception was absolutely fantastic. So professional and welcoming. She went out of her way to make our stay great.

"Noisy dump"
Jsfulham765, 30 Juin 2022

It's a typical English hotel. The staff are their best asset. The rooms are hit and miss. The new extension is ok but the main hotel is dreadful - dated decor and the noise from the function going on the hotel tonight until midnight is unacceptable. I hope I never have the misfortune of returning here

"The best day!"
Lisa D, 29 Juin 2022

We had our wedding at the queen on the 25th June 2022 after 5 dates and a venue change due to covid. I cannot recommend the venue highly enough it's amazing! The ceremony room, reception room and the terrace were beautiful! The food was some of the best we've ever eaten, all of our guests comented on how lovely it was. A special mention though goes to oana who looked after us all weekend - she's a credit to them!!

"Lovely Long Weekend"
Lorraine N, 28 Juin 2022

We stayed for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary. Upon arrival, we were offered a free room upgrade which was an unexpected surprise. When we reported that there was a missing bedside lamp, the Reception Desk staff dealt with the issue quickly. All the staff (Receptionists, Dining Room, Cleaners) , were very friendly, attentive and efficient, the room was impeccably clean, and the breakfast was so tasty. Will definitely book this hotel again!

"The Queen Hotel Chester"
keithannhopkins, 27 Juin 2022

What a lovely hotel. The friendliest staff you could ever hope to meet. We came up here for a short break with our dog and they couldn't have done anymore for us. Thank you so much for welcoming us and our little dog so warmly. The hotel was just outside the railway station and was within easy walking distance of the city centre and the city wall walk. Found a beautiful little park just down the road (the Grovenor Park) so a brilliant walk for Alfie. A car park albeit not free was right next door so no worries about where to park the car.

"Great Staff!"
Dreamer823417, 22 Juin 2022

I just finished a six night stay at the Queen at Chester. The property has much to offer to anyone traveling to this ancient walled city. The Queen is a stately and massive property that harkens back to the elegance of Queen Victoria's reign. With it's elegant furnishings to it's restaurant and bar you feel quite pampered. The fact that it is located just across the street from the train station is a blessing, yet you you are a short walk from canal-side pubs and the City Center. I couldn't post this review without mentioning the Front Desk Manager, Mathew. His ability to be everywhere with knowledge observations and cheerful service whilst in the middle of a railway strike was impressive.

"Delightful stay. Wonderful hotel with excellent staff"
johnmZ3429LJ, 21 Juin 2022

We had a wonderful stay. This is a lovely hotel. Excellent rooms, food, amenities and staff. You won't be disappointed. Delightful room, lovely outside patio area. Close to railway station and on main bus route into the city.

"“Enjoy your stay” they say!! I would like to!!"
Tony R, 17 Juin 2022

Arrived at the hotel to a very warm welcome, well that's the good bit. The rest is not so good. I booked a Superior King Room, I would hate to see a standard room. On entering the room we found that the TV did not work, the taps are hanging off the wall on the bathroom sink, there is sticky splash marks all down the wall next to the bed, there are holes and rips in the furniture, sticky fingerprints and marks on the back of the chairs. I make a trip down to reception to ask for the tv to be looked at so we can watch while we are getting ready to go out for the evening, answer, yes I can do that but the maintenance man doesn't come on duty for another hour and I will put it on the list, but don't know when it will be. I list the other complaints and she says she will let the manager know. I ask to speak to the manager and am told that there isn't a manager only a duty manager, but they are not available, I say I will wait and I am now just engorged so I gave up. On the way back to the room, I come across the beverage manager and I tell the story again and ask if there is another room we can be moved to, No, we are fully booked. I can do you a refund and you can leave is the answer. Oh I ask the receptionist for more milk, yes sir certainly, after a brief look around replies, I don't have any here, I will get some sent up to your room, it's now almost an hour later and there is no milk or any contact from a manager.. Beware of this Hotel, don't believe the photographs they show you.

"Poor standards"
TamXS, 16 Juin 2022

On the surface looks good, I booked because I liked a meal I had there. This time the lasagne hadn't been defrosted properly and nuked in the oven- worry when your hot main arrives at the same time as a cold starter! I was refunded and given a voucher for two free drinks- I gave this to two German gentlemen, I've worked in a hotel so it's very hard to placate me. I'm sure you shouldn't need a hacksaw to eat veggie lasagne. Overall the veggie choices are limited The room also looked good but the cleaning and upkeep wasn't up to my standards the bed was two singles that don't meet evenly- I'll go and see my chiropractor . The bombardment from BW emails to upgrade was irritating - upgrade to what, a clean room? The last BW I stayed in was 11 out of 10 this was absolutely zero (-273) I won't be staying with BW again, I'll stick to Travelodge or Premier Inn

"Amazing support from Oana and her team"
sonyacL6788BA, 15 Juin 2022

We visited The Queen at Chester Hotel for a work event at the hotel in May 2022. We had a fantastic time. Caroline was brilliant in helping us in planning and preparing for our visit, and Oana and her team were amazing in attending to our every need to ensure that our event went out without a hitch. It was a wonderful space for our event, and Oana and her team were brilliant in making sure our event was a success.

"It really should be one star, but the staff were friendly"
STJ556, 26 Mai 2022

I would email the hotel directly, but there are no contact details easily available. I paid £177 for a 'Superior King'. The hotel is enormous and ugly and needs refurbishing, but that was all fine. The main issue - and it's a big one - was the bedding. I noticed when we pulled back the cover there was no fitted sheet, just a poorly tucked in flat sheet, leaving the mattress exposed. It all seemed fairly... grubby. The next morning, on checking out, I shook out the duvet to see we hadn't left anything and saw that was indeed grubby. It was stained. I'm attaching a picture. It's just COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Apart from that issue, the water in the bathroom was not hot, the dining room is horrible, and the whole place needs a major refresh.

"Not recommended for hot summer nights"
melanied119, 25 Mai 2022

No air conditioning, small fan, window opens slightly to the noisy street and train station. Hot room and noise made it difficult to sleep. Beautiful lobby, convenient location, great staff. Wish I had a better night of sleep but glad I was only staying one night on my tour with Insight Travel.

"Wedding 20th May 2022"
M7511GLnicolar, 25 Mai 2022

My husband and I had our wedding at The Queen on 20/5/22 and we would just like to thank all of the staff who made the day go without a hitch and made it so special. Firstly Zoe, the wedding planner who was there for us every step of the way, nothing was too much trouble and she went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our day. Secondly, Oana who was there for us the night before the wedding and all day for the wedding. Oana and the rest of the hotel staff were so attentive, they looked after all of us constantly making sure everyone had a drink and was happy with the food. Our wedding guests have all been so complimentary about the hotel as a whole saying that the rooms were gorgeous, the food was delicious and the staff were so lovely. The guests and myself would recommend this hotel if anybody was thinking of having their wedding there, nobody had a bad word to say about it. Thanks again, Nikki and Ollie

"Nice but"
blimeyboy, 23 Mai 2022

We had our wedding reception here 36 years ago and so like to stay here when we visit family in Chester. Stayed here on Saturday B&B while attending a family birthday party elsewhere. We stayed in room 104 which was comfortable but we were surprised that they have really let the room go. The low ceiling by the door is in real need of a make over, just felt if this is still a 4 star hotel it should at least be clean and tidy? Flip side is breakfast was lovely, well looked after by great staff and food was excellent.

"Amazing stay."
CranBerries0821, 22 Mai 2022

The hotel is exceptionally clean and strategically situated just right in front of the Chester station. Every staff are wonderful and make us feel so warm upon arrival to the hotel. We had 3 great night stay in Queens hotel and we straight recommended for anyone who is planning to visit to Chester.

"Basic"
Stephanie M, 19 Mai 2022

Regular superior room, 2nd Floor. Nightstands/tables on both side of beds with lamps. Mediocre place. No trash can in room, only one tiny one in loo/bathroom. Good sized for city center. No shelves in bath area near sink. Main issue was hard, lumpy bed. Cannot change temperature in room, except slightly opened window. No phone to call reception or housekeeping, you call them on your phone.

"Super stay"
Mandy E, 17 Mai 2022

Lovely stay for a school reunion .excellent food ,friendly staff ,nice and clean, good room ,lovely walkin shower .easy walk into town ,and right by the railway station, has its own carpark lots to see and do in chester .

"A night away"
Pauldj10, 16 Mai 2022

What can we say about this lovely hotel.we stayed for only one night (unfortunately) When we arrived in the morning we were met by a very friendly young lady on reception and although we were very early she made us feel extremely welcome . The hotel is beautiful inside and out and I must say that all the staff we met we're very professional and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The evening meal was included in the package and was very nice ,we also had breakfast included and this was equally nice with plenty of tea and coffee offered and plenty of choice for breakfast with toast ,pastries , cereal, full English and even pancakes on offer ,buffet style . Our room was lovely and spacious and very clean with a fantastic shower . The only complaint that we had was one of the paintings in the room (a picture of her majesty Queen Elizabeth) a very nice painting when looking at it straight on but when you looked at it from an angle oh my god it was so spooky. We showed the receptionist on check out and she was going to have a look at it ( with someone else with her lol) I really do feel that that picture should be removed. We certainly would and will go back to the queen of Chester but not in that room lol .

"Dirty / dusty"
Helen B, 16 Mai 2022

The hotel was fairly nice but there was a film of visible dust on the shelf of the bedside cabinet. There was a ball of dust on the stairs leading down to reception. There was no hand sanitising gel in the container next to the lift on 4th floor. I feel the hotel was nice but unacceptably dirty especially when covid is still around. I feel we overpaid for the room due to this. I should have spoken to the hotel when we were there but didn't.

"Excellent stay at Queens at Chester"
Chrismar53, 15 Mai 2022

Stayed in Executive Double. Room was spacious, clean and warm. Modern clean bathroom with large shower. Room had a sofa bed, chair, desk and chair. Single and large double bed. Lovely bar and lounge. Very interesting hotel lots of portraits, artefacts took us an hour to look at everything on the three floors. Lovely bar and lounge area with open fires which I understand are lit in winter. Very enjoyable stay.

"Stay at The Queen at Chester Hotel"
1414Christine, 12 Mai 2022

We throughly enjoyed our one night stay. The room was lovely, spacious and well-equipped. The staff throughout the hotel were excellent and consistently helpful and courteous. We will definitely return. The food at the restaurant (evening meal and breakfast) was very good.

"Excellent bar service"
Dan74511, 11 Mai 2022

Elle served us in the bar, great customer service, recommended whiskeys, coped well under pressure during busy hours and always had a smile. Dealt with disgruntled customers with professionalism and represented the company

"40th Wedding Anniversay"
Susan H, 10 Mai 2022

We have just spent a lovely couple of days at The Queens. We were here to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary and also my husbands birthday. We had a superb time the room ,food ,staff everything was first class. We have stayed here on a number of occasions and we will be back. Thank you to all x

"Service doesn't live up to expectations"
Vera45, 08 Mai 2022

Service did not live up to what the ostentatious splendour would let you believe: 1. Bedside light bulb not working 2. Room service has surprisingly poor choices 3. Room was never made up 4. You have to book a breakfast slot but when you get there on time all tables are taken 5. Ridiculous system where waiters running around with thermoses of stale coffee/tea pouring the wrong beverage on occasion and forcing guests to continuously signal - often in vein - for a refill of tiny cups. Just give people a freshly brewed pot and let them enjoy it in peace!

"A delightful hotel in an excellent location"
wtw9, 07 Mai 2022

Our positive experience started with Tom at reception, who was both friendly and efficient at reception. We were given a room in the King's section, so we were treated to walking past a beautiful garden. Both the room and bathroom were spotless. Breakfast was served as a buffet and there was a wide selection of food items. Dinner in the King's terrace was delicious as well. Finally, since we were traveling by train, the hotel being directly across from the station was perfect!

"Absolutely fandabydozy"
826sallyr, 06 Mai 2022

What a brilliant place. Lovely hotel with character, made perfect by the most fantastic staff. Clean and spacious. The best breakfast buffet in terms of quality, choice and service. Nothing too much for any member of staff.

"Suffocating"
emj18xx, 05 Mai 2022

The room was shockingly hot, unbearable. The only thing that saved the whole experience was the attentiveness of the staff. Breakfast was also wonderful. I do not think I'd return due to the rooms being unbearable but the staff was amazing

"Excellent overnight stay"
jmnich57, 05 Mai 2022

Parking was easy. Hotel is well located in the centre of Chester. Check in was easy and the room was roomy, clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast with good service and a good selection of hot and cold food.

"Excellent service"
ursulasY8822PD, 03 Mai 2022

I was very pleasantly surprised to find such a well-run, clean and quiet hotel - in spite of being large and with an event taking place. Staff on reception exceptional - especially Tom, who dealt with my request for additional room efficiently and with good humour. The food in the restaurant in the evening was excellent and the piano playing very good (welcome since my husband was attending an event and I was dining alone). Cannot recommend highly enough.

"Lovely helpful staff. Rooms not up to scratch"
Scoobia, 30 Avril 2022

Staff at this hotel are wonderful. Professional friendly and helpful. Especially Eliza on main reception. However we were very disappointed with the rooms which are very tired. We were upgraded as our first room was not clean

"Wonderful hotel, amazing staff, excellent location"
HJO56, 26 Avril 2022

The Queen at Chester is a real find. Every member of staff I encountered offered the same friendly, professional and helpful service. The room as modern and clean and quiet. The breakfasts were excellent and worth the price We used the banqueting facilities and again were excellent. What I also loved about the hotel is the quirky decor in the public areas, corridors etc. It retains its grandeur. I would definitely stay there again if I go to Chester. I have stayed in many very good hotels an this is one of them.

"School Reunion - excellent venue"
Terriinbristol, 26 Avril 2022

Attended our school reunion, and we all could not praise the excellent staff, venue, food, drinks! We have had an amazing time, and nothing was too much trouble! Worthy of a 5 star rating. The hotel is so interesting, and something to be seen around every corner.

"Reunion with friends"
Trevoious2000, 25 Avril 2022

This was organised as a reunion for over a hundred of my friends, which we have every couple of years. I can honestly say this was the best hotel we have stayed in for some time. The food was brilliant along with the service

"Great hotel!"
435gilliang, 24 Avril 2022

Great hotel and convenient for us; the hotel has many interesting items all over on every floor, in all public areas and hung on the walks. We have stayed often and it's closeness to Chester Railway Station is brilliant.

"Love this hotel"
V618CNmarieb, 22 Avril 2022

We have stayed at The Queen a few times over the past 20 years. Always friendly, efficient helpful staff. A beautiful, grand, well maintained hotel. A real treat to stay here. Had a lovely standard double. Lovely refurbished bathroom. Spotlessly clean. 10 min stroll to town.

"Always a joy"
ABitWelsh, 19 Avril 2022

I love this hotel and the staff are simply lovely. The decor is varied and interesting, the communal spaces and corridors are spacious and airy, but the customer service is top notch. Lovely, helpful staff who are so pleasant to deal with. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"My stay"
margaret b, 18 Avril 2022

Hotel was lovely with lovely staff in the breakfast room and on reception. The only let down was the lounge bar. There was said to be a singer on a Friday and Saturday but this didnt happen. Most annoying was the very poor service in the bar. Sometimes we waited for 30 minutes for someone to arrive and serve us and then they were very slow. The food in the restaurant was nice but was not served as hot as we would like.

"Amazing Stay"
Lisaangelinakidd, 16 Avril 2022

We booked this break via a secret escape break which included a double room, breakfast, 3 course meal and a bottle of prosecco in our room. When we arrived the reception staff were friendly and helpful and advised that we had a free room upgrade to an executive king room. This was a lovely surprise. The room was in the new part of the hotel and on the 7th floor. We could not fault the room, our meals or the service we received. The location is excellent and a short walk to the town centre and lovely bars along the canal. We would definitely stay here again in a heart beat.

"Queen Hotel"
Stu2966, 14 Avril 2022

Had a lovely one night stay here via Groupon with my partner. Staff were attentive, facilities were good, breakfast was a buffet which was lovely and price was reasonable. There is a bus stop outside and buses every couple of minutes into the central area. We had a free drink with our stay and the overall experience was excellent. Would recommend.

"Nice hotel but a few issues."
Howie63, 11 Avril 2022

We stayed for two nights (Fri & Sat) to facilitate attendance @ the Grand National. We were allocated a small room (1602) that was some distance from the hotel facilities. The room was okay save for a shower that was tepid at best and the fact that the room wasn't serviced after the first night. We ate in the restaurant both nights. Staff were inattentive on the first night but full marks to Matthew on the second night - an altogether better experience. NB: the menu is very limited for a hotel of this size; likewise the wine list. It was frustrating not to be able to charge food or drink to our room but maybe this was because we'd pre-paid for our room; a little trust goes a long way.

"Wedding Bliss"
John J, 11 Avril 2022

Two night stay in early April due to our son's wedding at the hotel. The service was first class, knowledgable and friendly staff. Spacious bedrooms, excellent breakfast menu (buffet style) which was delicious.

"Excellent stay"
Angie7, 08 Avril 2022

We visit Chester often but this is the first we have stopped at The queen, but it won't be the last. We are Best Western reward members, and for the first time we were actually upgraded because of this (without asking). The reception staff were very friendly. The room was lovely, clean, beautiful bathroom, very comfortable beds. The parking (£10 per day mid week) is 2 mins walk and very safe. It is about 8 min walk into the centre via the canal walk. Really nice hotel. We will definitely stop here again.

"FILTHY"
Shannj752, 07 Avril 2022

Would never recommend this hotel to anyone, our room was filthy, the reception area has thick dust everywhere, we was here for 2 nights and didn't get any clean towels, bed was not made or room wasn't cleaned. Went down to reception at 9.30pm to request towels tea and coffee, guy behind reception asked me did you request for your room to be cleaned and cleaned towels? He was very unprofessional and wasn't bothered. At 10pm we was still waiting for clean towels, no phone in room to contact reception so had to keep going down to the very unhelpful staff in reception… never again

"Great hotel"
JULIE D, 05 Avril 2022

Great hotel, good location, especially for the station. Lovely room, great food (superb breakfast and a great 3 course evening meal), friendly and helpful reception staff (recommended a fabulous restaurant for our second night). Got given our stay as a Christmas present, but would not hesitate to stay here again.

"Wowcher Deal"
Phil41yellow, 03 Avril 2022

Wowcher deal including Executive room, bottle of Prosecco, breakfast and a three course meal on first night! The receptionist was very friendly and efficient, explaining meal time system and booking our meal and breakfast slots. There is a lift and we were on the third floor, Ann Boleyn room. Lovely big room with two windows and king bed. Tea and coffee making facilities and flat screen tv, comfy sofa and chairs. Nice pictures on wall. Our meal was in the dining room which was nicely set out and candles lit on all tables. I had tomato soup and husband had salmon fish cake for starters, both were very nice. Then I had gammon steak and chips, loaded with flat mushroom, onion rings and two fried eggs and chips! Very tasty! Husband had Cumberland sausage and mash which he was disappointed with! The sausage did not taste right to him! Luckily I had too much for me so he had half of mine! Dessert we had Eton mess cheesecake, still a bit frozen! I had pistachio ice cream, a bit icy but ok. Wouldn't want a second meal as menu very limited! The bed was far too hard for us and we struggled getting to sleep but some people might like it! Shower was good and plenty of room in bathroom. Breakfast was buffet, tea and coffee was waitress served! Food was hot and tasty and plenty of croissant, cereal, yoghurt, toast etc. All in all a very pleasant stay! Would definitely stay again!

"Filthy"
797PaulB, 30 Mars 2022

Stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is very close to the Railway Station, in fact just 1 min walk. First impressions are good, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel was quiet and we had no noise issues. The room let the hotel down. We expected better for over £100 a night. First there wasn't any air conditioning, but this time of year it wasn't an issue. But we did use the fan provided, to keep it comfortable. This had a thick covering of dust. The room is ok on first seeing but look closer and you see the dust, lots of dust. The bathroom was big, with a large shower and bath. The window blind was covered in dust and difficult to lower. The drawers were covered in dust. The headboard had a covering of dust, as did the shelf inside the wardrobe and the telephone. The cups were filthy and had to be cleaned, no teaspoons & 3 tea bags. We wont be back. Premier Inn just along the road is better than place.

"The little things"
simonesilk11, 26 Mars 2022

It is such a beautiful hotel with amazing service from all the staff, so friendly and always happy to help. The different furniture to fit with the theme of hotel, really makes it quite unique and quirky. We will definitely be visiting this hotel again

"Quick stop over"
davy2022, 24 Mars 2022

Perfectly located for Chester railway station the Queens is a beautifully decorated old building. Staff were really helpful and my standard single room had a very comfortable double bed with iron, hair dryer and large TV. Noisy water pipe didn't make for best night sleep in the room I had. Breakfast was really good too. Overall a good stay.

"Would return"
laurenfE6922GY, 23 Mars 2022

Location is perfect, really handy if travelling by train as it's the first building you see when you exit the train station. Hotel room spotless, lovely view of the courtyard and breakfast was great. Bed was ok, wasn't the most comfortable but not uncomfortable, bit creaky but bearable. The thing that sets this hotel apart from the rest is the service. The reception staff were amazing, really helpful with local recommendations and polite. Breakfast staff very attentive.

"Nice rooms in the Kings - nice breakfast"
Richy1708, 23 Mars 2022

Stayed here for two nights - with mixed emotions. The room in the Kings section was quite nice - great value for money. The wi-fi was good. The breakfast was really nice and the staff polite. Comfortable bed with a good night's sleep. I couldn't get the TV to work - but that could have been just me! I had two problems; #1 during my shower on the first morning my shower gel in the shower was empty so I had to run across the bathroom dripping wet to the other dispenser. I reported this to the young lady on reception to ensure that it would be sorted - didn't want to leave it to chance with the cleaner. On morning two, despite having had the room cleaned and reporting it to reception, the dispenser in the shower was still empty - very frustrating and very poor customer service. #2; the parking, I registered for the app and paid for 2 days. I left for work and came back the following evening - a couple of weeks later I received a £60 parking charge notice despite having paid - I've appealed and am awaiting the outcome. I would stay there again as the rooms were quite nice and it was good value - but nervous about the parking, and they really need to sort out their staff.

"Loved it!"
harrisveronica, 23 Mars 2022

Excellent hotel. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. Decor etc of an excellent standard. Beautifully presented gardens. Excellent customer service. Friendly staff. Lovely cat who is not to be fed by guest as he only eats the best food that is provided by the staff! This information, as an animal lover, really amused me.

"Excellent customer service"
DT37, 23 Mars 2022

We stayed in the King's part of the Queens hotel for 2 nights. The staff were excellent especially Eliza on reception she ensured our anniversary celebrations were made even more special. The room was lovely and the food both for breakfast and evening meal was also very good.

"Lovely stay"
Abbiejade18, 17 Mars 2022

Stayed for one night on Monday at this hotel. Room and hotel was spotlessly clean. Staff very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was delicious. Loved the old character of the hotel and enjoyed reading about the history of it.

"Nice Hotel"
David O, 17 Mars 2022

The hotel is of a very high standard, Being 2 minutes from the train station and 10 minutes from the centre of Chester. The hotel also has a good size carpark, so travel and parking is no problem. WE shall be going back to visit Chester agian soon, staying at the Queen again.

"Outstanding Staff!"
Sparrow02, 15 Mars 2022

From reception to housekeeping including maintenance and restaurant staff, the staff at this hotel are an outstanding bunch! Nothing is too much trouble for any of them. The hotel itself is tired and in need of refurbishment although relatively comfortable. Our room was poorly appointed - wardrobe couldn't be opened, accessing the bed was awkward, no fridge etc. BW are clearly cost cutting which of course is understandable under the circumstances but the cost cutting at times seems petty. For example, no biscuits on the room tea tray, no hair conditioner, shower caps or tissues in the bathroom and the breakfast whilst plentiful, is not of great quality. Crockery such as plates and breakfast juice glasses are tiny meaning you have to keep going back up! It's clear to see what the management are doing but it seems such a shame because it affects the way you feel about the place. The staff are their main asset and let's hope they don't cut costs on this front because they make up for everything! They really are a truly splendid bunch and we thank each and every one of you for making our stay so lovely.

"Noisy , hot , expensive."
Neil E, 13 Mars 2022

The young lady that checked us in was very nice and professional and also sorted the parking fee out which by the way is shocking £15 per day and no discount for staying at the hotel which we were for 2 nights. The lift to the 2nd floor is tiny and extremely slow. The room was ok ish , clean and very warm but on further investigation not up to standard for the money , window was kept open with a piece of wood the chair in the room was ripped the pillows and bed were uncomfortable and tatty the tea tray was rubbish and the room key cards stopped working twice.. breakfast was on , usual buffet stuff. Had dinner on the 2nd night £77 for the 2 of us but the menu was poor and we ended up with Cumberland sausage and mash . Not what we were expecting. beautiful building and decor but we won't return as it's a bit tired too hot and not the quality we were expecting.

"Just excellent"
Graham L, 12 Mars 2022

My wife and I had a two night stay as a gift for Christmas, from the friendly and efficient check in to checking out the whole experience was just excellent. Our premier room was clean and comfortable with only one detail lacking, a usb phone charging point. All the staff were warm and friendly, our evening meal was superb and the breakfasts were wholesome. The ambiance was delightful with a lot of design features, thank you.

"City break in Chester"
John B, 10 Mars 2022

A good traditional hotel opposite the station. A 10-15 min walk into the City, but a reasonable location. The room was large and the en-suite very large. The room had plenty of storage but the TV should have been fixed with a moveable arm. The room was clean but tired and in need of a frefurb. Staff were attentive, helpful and the service in the restaurants was excellent. The food was also very goog.

"Unbelievable value for money"
yorkshirelass77, 08 Mars 2022

Beautiful old building, full of character. We stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast deal which was excellent value for money. Bedroom comfortable and well furnished. Food very good, staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent hotel for a short break and we hope to return.

"Lovely old hotel"
Wizzies, 07 Mars 2022

Stayed one night in March, with friends en route to the Lake District. Very comfortable, warm welcome by reception staff, lovely room with big bathroom (large roll top bath). Just a short walk into the city(approximately 10 minutes).

Stayed here many times now. Very well kept hotel, evening meal and breakfast was very good. Staff helpful and friendly, room clean and comfortable. Plenty of parking nearby. Directly opposite the train station, ten minute walk into city centre.

"Great location"
WTraveller-1983, 06 Mars 2022

Great location for visiting Chester. Access to the railway station directly across the road. Good location for the city centre. Visited just after lockdowns had completed... some bar staff were still unsure regarding the C-19 restrictions and requirements. Room was extremely clean. Only criticism would be having to use WhatsApp to contact reception... my only thought is not everyone has WhatsApp (particularly the more elder guest).

"Great hotel"
FamilyB28, 04 Mars 2022

The hotel for its age is still grand in the shared areas, rooms very large and warm, although slight not as modern but still very comfortable. Breakfast was very good and filling. A cross the road from the rail station and parking in the hotel at a daily cost £15 weekend and week £10. we arrived at 3.30pm stopped 2 nights and parking covered through to our leave 3.30pm plus 4 hours added so could have parked longer. Staff very friendly. This is a really nice hotel would recommend.

Lovely historic hotel, in a great location over the road from the train station which is ideal, can leave your luggage before check in so you can go out for a wonder, only a 10 minute walk into the town centre, spacious room with large Bath and seperate shower. Great breakfast, lots of choice. Would definitely stay again

"Not as expected"
Moira B, 01 Mars 2022

Stayed here before the pandemic and the stay was faultless. Unfortunately we returned last month and we couldn't believe it was the same hotel . No heating on in the main hotel but rooms were ok . Bathroom radiator was turned off … management said they were turned off due to health and safety …. To me this isn't acceptable. The shower head was mouldy and the mattress had seen better days . Food overall was just OK . I spoke to the management on check out , who kindly rectified our complaint immediately. Alas we wouldn't return .

"Lovely Old Building, with character"
KayT52, 27 Février 2022

Really clean, rooms a good size, staff couldn't do enough, breakfast was good plenty of choice. In fact recently stayed at the Grosvenor Hotel, and even though it was more polished I rather the Queens, definitely more value for money

"Lovely stay"
tiaestelle2022, 24 Février 2022

Myself and my daughter stayed for two nights with 3 course meal and a bottle of Prosecco on arrival. The hotel has retained much of its feeling of grandeur but with well placed modern features. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food and service very good. We enjoyed our stay, although the standard room did feel a little bit like you were walking towards the servants quarters with the narrower corridors and lack of style but that's because we didn't upgrade to a superior room! The room itself was fine, clean and comfortable. We may upgrade another time to see what the other rooms are like but we did enjoy staying in the beautiful hotel.

"pleasant stay"
campbellmrmichaelc, 23 Février 2022

great service with a few niggles namely television reception which was inconsistent and long wait to get served at the bar in the evening. Breakfast was excellent with good food and excellent service, Overall a good vaue for money experience.

"Didn't Stay but customer Service alone A++++"
benpeel24, 23 Février 2022

My partner and I was scheduled to go but for medical reasons was unable to attend. I messaged the hotel and phoned them and they promptly helped and forwarded the issue onto the hotel instantly. We got amazing customer service from the people involved and can't wait to get there and stay once we are back on our feet. Thank you to all the staff at The Queen @ Chester!!!

"welcoming comfortable hotel"
grubalert, 22 Février 2022

We were greeted by friendly reception team, the hotel is directly opposite the train station, there is good parking directly behind the hotel. The hotel is very impressive with lovely grand staircase and nice décor. Our room was on the 3rd floor, the room we had was extremely spacious, very clean and well equipped, the shower room was also a good size and the shower was a dream, the complimentary toiletries were a nice bonus, it was comfortable and the bed was fabulous, being an older hotel we also found it was so quiet, the floors didn't creak and you couldn't hear other guests. We had a lovely 3 course dinner, the food was also plentiful and very tasty and the staff were friendly and nothing seemed to much trouble. Breakfast was self service, lots of fresh fruit, lots of choice of pastries and nice selection of hot food. that should please everybody. Over all we will definitely return unfortunately we only had a one night stay, but felt totally recharged and will stay longer next time. Happy Days.

"great location and very comfy"

lovely room with comfy bed. Good location for walking into city and round walls. Good breakfast and excellent nearby restaurants as well as on-site dining. Convenient on-site parking. Had a great stay!

Absolutely beautiful hotel our room was lovely spacious and clean the staff were friendly and happy to help we had a evening meal for valentines and it was beautiful me and my husband loved it. The breakfast was excellent beautiful full English and fruits, cereal, pastries and the staff always walking around to ask if you want a fill up

"Beautiful Hotel with lots of Character"
harimell, 10 Février 2022

We stayed in this hotel for two nights, the rooms were spacious and the reception area was amazing, bit like being in Downton Abbey. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was delicious.

"Great overnight stay"
Simon R, 10 Février 2022

We stopped here for my wife's 50th and the hotel kindly left a bottle of bubbly in the room which was a kind gesture. Hotel was easy to find and car parking was good, would recommend paying in the hotel as its much easier. The room was great and we had a good view of the town, nice touch the rooms are all themed. The room was so hot at night and we turned the temperature down as low as we could Staff very friendly and helpful on the main apart from the barman in the evening who was quite rude. Good location as easy to walk into town. Breakfast was fantastic with a good selection. We would definitely stop here again if we came back to Chester

"Great hotel in brilliant location"
Mellyk-7, 31 Janvier 2022

Stayed here for two nights in December on Dinner bed and breakfast and bottle of Prosecco deal. Fantastic value for money. Had lovey upgraded room - Sir Robert - Dinner with Prosecco on the first night was fabulous and again really good breakfast on both mornings. The location is perfect, handy 24 hours car park next door, easy to walk in to the town and lovey bar to relax with drink in evening. Staff very friendly and helpful and the hotel clean tidy and lots of hand sanitiser available. Again somewhere I would stay again.

"Queens hotel chester"
460jackiem, 31 Janvier 2022

Stayed at queens hotel Chester, not impressed with room very dated, booked this on woucher for my husband's birthday stayed there on Saturday 29 January 22 ,hotel as you walk in is beautiful good location, but the room we was in was awful definitely not like any of the pictures on there website, the whole room was on a slope the floor was running down really bad ,just a basic grey room with a grey wardrobe that was all the room was definitely would not book again??

"Excellent"
RonnieB1970, 31 Janvier 2022

Stayed for 1 night in Jan with my wife. Hotel was excellent, room clean and tidy and the staff were friendly and helpful. Pre-booked 3 course meal as part of a deal and it was superb. Food and service was faultless.

"Fabulous stay"
bililouise, 30 Janvier 2022

Honestly had the most lovely experience at this hotel and can't believe the modest price, well worth every penny! I will definitely be making another booking , great breakfast selection and good wifi service

"Fantastic Hotel "
hallig78, 29 Janvier 2022

We stayed here in December whilst visiting the Christmas markets. This hotel is literally next to the train station which was handy, the room was beautiful and immaculate and also very quiet. Staff were extremely helpful. We paid extra for breakfast the following morning and it didn't dissapoint, we will definately be staying here again.

"Excellent stay ! "
yiannisdimitri, 26 Janvier 2022

Booked for us on a wowcher deal as a Christmas present to include a bottle of Prosecco, buffet breakfast and late check out (1pm) . Easy check in with very pleasant staff . Rooms were very much to our taste decor wise. Buffet breakfast was good and plentiful (both hot and cold) . Again the staff were very friendly and attentive. Very atmospheric place and bursting with history . Right next to the train station and is in an area which has probably seen better days but looks like it is having investment and regeneration . We would definitely stay again !

"It's very handy for the railway station"
tony r, 26 Janvier 2022

A very nice hotel you don't need a car for this hotel as the railway station is right across the road having said that doesn't mean that you hear trains coming and going never heard one the hotels about 10 to 15mins walk to Chester you can walk along the canal which takes you into Chester too.

"Expected more"
Ziggy378, 24 Janvier 2022

When booking this hotel, I thought it may have been one of the top hotels in Chester. It is a grand building but looking a little tired outside and in the room we had. The walls were dusty, the reading spotlights were damaged and the taps were damaged in the bathroom. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. Parking was the best part of the experience as we booked it online, so just turned up and checked in. Parking is very convenient as it is at the back of the hotel.

"Lovely stay to celebrate birthday "
damjab, 18 Janvier 2022

Nice one night stay to celebrate birthday with the hubby. Got drink voucher which is always welcome. Staff lovely, wlvery welcoming. Breakfast also has nice variety to choose from, however no vegetarian option (I.e. vegan sausages) however we never asked so perhaps we would've got for request. Room nice amd clean, very warm and lovely bathroom.

"Lovely, quirky hotel."
NJW69, 17 Janvier 2022

Lovely, individually styled hotel. Fantastic food in the restaurant and reasonably priced bar. Room was well equipped with a safe, iron and ironing board and lots of toiletries. Got a great package deal with D, B&B and a bottle of Prosecco in the room. We will definitely stay again!

"Wonderful but !!!"
Paul M, 11 Janvier 2022

So we stayed in one of the Kings Suites , ours was the Lily Langtree Suite , the occasion was my wife's birthday, the suite was stunning , From the lounge with its ornate furniture through to the bedroom with its massive Bed , very large Bathroom with corner Bath and separate Shower enclosure and Twin Wash hand basins, We had our Dinner in the Lovely Dining room , we retired to our room and watched some Tv , at around 11 15 pm strange things started to happen , there was a whooshing sound , like heavy wind , The Whole Room Started to Shake the Floor was vibrating, the whole thing lasted at least 2 mins , we were convinced it was a mini earthquake, we contacted the front desk to ask if one had been reported, no it hadn't, when we went for Breakfast we asked at reception if the Hotel was Haunted , YES it is , in fact it is one of the Top Five Most Haunted Hotels in the UK, a very amazing added extra , would we stay again OF Course we would , rebooked for March

"Fantastic Stay"
symest2013, 09 Janvier 2022

The hotel is ideally situated, just a few minutes from the city centre and across the road from the train station with ample parking. We stayed for one night in a Superior Double. The room was clean, spacious and the bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly & attentive. We had breakfast and it was very good, the hot food was regularly topped up and there was a good selection. The best part of our stay was the staff who made us so welcome from Jessica at check-in to all the breakfast team (even the chef greeted me when I was filling my plate! The hotel is very Covid safe, I have never seen so many hand sanitizers dotted around! We will definitely stay there again.

"DUST!!!"
Yahoomf, 05 Janvier 2022

The dust was unbearable. Shower pressure was awful, like standing in the rain trying to wash your hair. Cup stains on bedside table. Earring on floor next to bed. Coffee machine but no pods to make a coffee. Hotel cleanliness poor.

"If you think you've been given a room that's smaller than the one you booked, you probably have!"
Ben C, 30 Décembre 2021

We booked into the Queen because it is pet friendly and we were travelling with a dog. We also booked an executive room for that reason, so we would have room to crate the dog and be able to eat at a separate table and chairs if we needed. At check in, we checked the type of room, asking about the bathroom and we were told we'd have a walk in shower and stand alone bath. The staff were being a bit strange and evasive. When we got to the room, it was very small, and the bathroom only had a bath with showerhead. We asked at reception and they told us that we'd actually been put in a standard room due to an error with the computer system and there were no apologies made, but we were told we would be refunded the difference because there were no longer any bigger rooms available. Normally, this would be acceptable, but the fact that this wasn't mentioned at check in left a bad taste in the mouth. The receptionist would have known at that time that we were being put into a smaller room but he neglected to tell us. Maybe this is what the hotel tell their staff to do to maximise profits, because I imagine a lot of people wouldn't complain if they didn't need the extra space for a dog. Or maybe it was just one person cutting a corner. Either way, it felt very disingenuous

"Overpriced"
doyleelectrical, 28 Décembre 2021

The price of the room did not reflect the stay. The lamp above the wash basin flashed intermittently. The soap dispensers had not been dusted for some time. The net curtains were dusty. The curtain was not secured properly The outside had scaffolding up with building rubbish piled up underneath The security was extremely lapse

"Lovely but cold room!!!!"
SandiM353, 24 Décembre 2021

Executive twin room which was spacious with chair area and robes. Yu the great room! Love how they all have names! But the room was so cold despite it allegedly being 25 degrees. Clearly the heating wasnt working. The windows are old and were letting the cold air in. A plug in heater was in the room so it seems we werent the only ones to have complained! We needed the robes provided to keep warm! Also neither of the bedside lights seemed to work which was a shame but not the end of the world. Staff lovely. i felt in an executive room a biscuit or two could have been provided with the kettle and tea!

"Birthday treat"
Jill A, 23 Décembre 2021

What can I say about our suite? The lights in our lounge area didn't work, the heating didn't work, there was a massive crack in the bathroom sink, the radiator in the bathroom was lukewarm, stains on the carpet, phone and tv remotes very dirty, one of the light bulbs by the bed had gone, only one bath robe and then we waited 3 hours for the other bath robe and an ice bucket!! On the good side the breakfast was very good.

"Brilliant stay."
anne h, 23 Décembre 2021

My friend and i stayed here on a Groupon deal for 1 night. From the minute we arrived everything was first class. Check in was a doddle and the room was gorgeous. We had dinner and that was hot, plentiful and delicious. the same could be said for breakfast. There was lots of choice and all excellent quality. The staff in the bar, restaurant and dining room were very attentive and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Covid rules were adhered to. We are planning a return trip in the summer as we enjoyed this trip so much. Many thanks to all the staff.

"Lovely stay in the city centre."
Eve_and_Casper, 22 Décembre 2021

Lovely hotel, spacious double room with a comfortable and clean bed. Really nice and (probably?) recently refurbished and modern bathroom. Our meal at the restaurant was really lovely with live piano music and tasty food on offer. The only thing which I found a bit surprising was... the small size TV on the wall as we found it difficult to try to watch any TV from the bed.

"Great stay"
karno781, 22 Décembre 2021

Just returned from a 2 night stay . Fabulous hotel with great staff . Everywhere lovely and clean . Great food choices for breakfast and dinner for the meat eaters , more vegetarian options would tempt us back . Our only complaint is the bed , it was rock hard the sheet didn't fit and there was no mattress protector . The stained mattress and dirty damaged pillow protectors are a turn off . Such a shame for a great hotel only letdown by the beds . Parking tip :- after dropping off your luggage in the 30 minute bay turn left out of the hotel go to the small roundabout and take the second exit , on the right is a car park it's £6 for 24 hours . £12 for 48 hours . That's a massive saving on the hotel recommended ones .

"Superior King Room"
Kieran032, 17 Décembre 2021

We stayed at The Queen Hotel in Chester and it was exceptional, the staff, service and food were top quality with nothing too much to ask, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in Chester, the town is just a short walk from the hotel via the underpass and if arriving by train the station directly across the road from the hotel, parking is charged at £10 per night weekdays but weekends is £15 per night, this was not a problem as the hotel is definitely worth it. The room was spotlessly clean, spacious and more than value for money. We will definitely be returning again in the new year this time with more people as well

"excellent location"
Nessienono, 07 Décembre 2021

great hotel, central location with plenty of bars, eating places near by clean, modern newly decorated rooms. Cheshire oaks is nearby, well worth a trip. Staff friendly and helpful . Will definitely stay here again. good value for money

"I can't think of anything good to say"
elburg, 06 Décembre 2021

I arrived late afternoon to find my room was not made up. The receptionist was most apologetic and helpful . She gave me a drinks voucher whilst she sorted me out another (much smaller) room. This morning when going for a shower I noticed hairs in the bath and around the cistern. Not having much time I went ahead and showered only to find both the shower gel and shampoo dispensers were empty. I reported this when going to breakfast and was assured it would get cleaned thoroughly. At breakfast after being poured a coffee went to get my breakfast from the buffet. On my return someone had been sat at my seat. By this time I had had enough, left my breakfast and walked into town to have the same. I have stayed here many times in the past and can't believe how rapidly the hotel has gone down hill.

"Weekend break"
lilianparenti245, 06 Décembre 2021

Amazing stay at this hotel nothing was too much trouble. Food excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. Clean comfortable rooms.very quiet. Would stay here again. Excellent location for trains.and bus to centre

"Great hotel with unique ornaments"
435gilliang, 05 Décembre 2021

A hotel we stay in regularly, serving a great breakfast and tasty dinner. Polite and thorough Reception staff and a happy feeling in the hotel as a whole. Rooms vary but all are clean as the Housekeeping staff are great.

"Lovely Christmas trip"
sukindred, 02 Décembre 2021

My husband and I caught the train over which was great because hotel is so near the station. The Christmas trees and decorations were just lovely. Our room was lovely and warm with iced prosecco waiting for us . We had the two course meal both opting for pate which was delicious. My husband had the gammon egg and chips I had the salmon which were both great although I did envy hubby's chips! We walked into Chester had a Christmassy drink in the Deva Tap which is nearby. The breakfast had All the usual buffet style choices without a trace of grease and I'm very fussy ! All the staff were helpful and pleasant .

"A sleepless Saturday night!"
O1068BUjanetm, 02 Décembre 2021

Staff were lovely, room comfortable BUT there were 2 functions on resulting in so much noise that we were unable to sleep until it ended at 1am. We also accidentally left a jacket in the wardrobe on departure. This hadn't been found by staff that cleaned the room (?) so the jacket and purse that was in the pocket are now missing. A really disappointing weekend

"Enjoyable stay to visit the Christmas markets"
genewilo, 02 Décembre 2021

The hotel is grand in appearance and charming from the moment you enter the reception. The décor is amazing with the artwork on the vast stairwell overlooking the reception. The festive decorations and the Christmas tree in the reception made our stay even more enjoyable. The only issue I experienced was that the heating in our suite was not working at the time and it didn't improve even after an engineer had bled the system. I would encourage people to stay at this hotel and I would definitely return, the location is fantastic for the city centre and the train station is across the road. The reception staff are very polite and courteous and even upgraded our room which is a lovely touch of making you feel special.

"Character hotel"
Jane E, 02 Décembre 2021

Hotel is in a great location near the station and about 10/15 mins walk to the centre. Parking next door with a fee. Rooms(in the new section) are comfy and pleasantly decorated.Staff are friendly. Breakfast ok-quality of some of the food could be improved but overall it was good value (Used a Travelzoo voucher)..

"lovely hotel"
Sherald B, 01 Décembre 2021

Beautiful well maintained building, room spacious, comfy bed, room quiet despite facing railway station ( was not disturbed by outside noise) About 10 Minute walk into town. Staff all friendly, Breakfast hot, good choice, Would definitely stay again.

"Nothing special but I was OK..."
wetandwildcamper, 25 Novembre 2021

Average hotel, nothing special about it but it was OK. My room looked tired. Single glazed windows, so the room was cold and there was a plug in oil filled radiator next to the bed. Shower but no bath in the room. Breakfast was buffet style. There was plenty of choice and no shortage of food. No gym/ Spa and parking was £10 per day. It was OK for work but I wouldn't have a family break there...

"Queens Hotel Chester"
chrislecarpentier, 24 Novembre 2021

I was really disappointed. My room was not ready until very late in the day 4pm. I was not comfortable that the room had been cleaned adequately if the bathroom was anything to go by. The lighting was awful. I was staying as part of a corporate event. Had I not I would have checked out and found alternative accommodation.

"Great stay"
EmilyL504, 23 Novembre 2021

Great room, friendly staff and delicious breakfast! Fergus was really welcoming and made sure we enjoyed our stay. Perfect location opposite the train station! We all really enjoyed it and will definitely be back, maybe for one of their Xmas party nights!

"lovely stay"
Jen P, 22 Novembre 2021

"Hotels as they should be"
N1115XZkevinb, 21 Novembre 2021

Beautiful and well run hotel in great location. Friendly and efficient staff, great amenities and usually a great breakfast offering, on this last occasion a few items of food appeared to be not up to their usual high standard. Well appointed and comfortable rooms, ideal for business leisure. Car parking expensive

"The Queen at Chester"
Bev A, 19 Novembre 2021

A character hotel within stepping distance of the station. Plenty of information on the history of the hotel, which dates back to the 19 th century. Will definitely return again. Impressed with the size of the room, exceeded expectations

"Beautiful Hotel, amazing staff."
lynzlol2016, 17 Novembre 2021

We stay in this beautiful hotel regularly as we are made to feel so welcome. The rooms are lovely but worth upgrading to executive room. The food is amazing and served by lovey staff. I could not fault this hotel and staff in any way. Location is perfect Can't wait to return.. Thank you all at The Queen.

"Nowhere to Eat"
trevettali, 17 Novembre 2021

Travel, business, dining, staying away from home is back to normal. It is idle, bad management not to offer any room service during a hotel stay. You could and should make a residents bed and empty the bin each day. . Appaling that you book out your entire dining room to a large group at 2 hours notice, leaving an elderly, lone, partially sighted guest to go into the city to seek a meal. Visually gorgeous hotel but not at all customer friendly.

"A little disappointing"
GHWHIT, 16 Novembre 2021

Stayed here for our anniversary getaway and love the City of Chester. The hotel is smack bang in the middle of Chester by the Station, but on arrival the hotel looked tired compared to the online photos. Check in great, staff super friendly and an absolute joy to deal with - a credit to the hotel. There is a carpark on site, but they charge £10.00 PER NIGHT to park there. As the nearest alternative is quite far, I feels like you've no option but to pay the huge fees for parking there - 'captive audience' so to speak. I paid to upgrade the room, and although it had been recently refurbished, it didn't feel very executive - very bare and stark, more like a very standard room compared to others I've stayed in elsewhere (at the same cost). There was no bath - something that I would expect from a premium room, and the room was very hot - no heating controls in the room, and we had the windows open, but as we were right next to the train station, the noise was quite bad. Breakfast was lovely - again, staff all very attentive and a great selection of everything! Very nice indeed. We didn't dine at the hotel, preferring to go out into Chester both evenings. The room service menu is non-existent - 5 or 6 basic things at most and one of which was a frozen Chicago town pizza (yes actually advertised as such). Room service breakfast also not offered here. Overall, pretty disappointing and I think this place is good for commuters. If you are looking for a little bit of luxury, this isn't the place, which is a shame, as the building itself is beautiful, but very tired and could be so much more.

"Lovely hotel"
simmondslj, 15 Novembre 2021

Very big hotel. Clean. Lovely staff. Next to train station but never heard one train. Very quiet. Lovely staircase and reception area. Really big hotel. Just a shame a load of scaffolding up and the front entrance.

"Great find"
petem4, 12 Novembre 2021

Beautiful hotel across the road from the rail station and a short walk into the wonderful town centre. Staff were polite, attentive and professional, rooms were well furnished and very comfortable, food was excellent, lots of little extras that we were not expecting but all contributed to the sense that this was a wonderful place to stay and excellent value for money.

"Elegant city stay"
fuzbee, 10 Novembre 2021

A beautiful elegant hotel, spacious and very clean. Decor in keeping and location is in easy walking reach of city centre and in character with historical Chester. The staff all friendly and attentive-special mentions to Emily & Sophie in the restaurant.

"Weekend away"
debbieharris3003, 08 Novembre 2021

Lovely weekend away through secret escapes offer. Hotel directly across road from train station. Hotel 10 min walk into town Lovely breakfast. Had evening meal in Grills restaurant, had better tasting but it was okay. When checking in you are given a letter to state there would be no housekeeping unless you requested it due to covid. Nice small bar

"Pleasant stay"
andreacH2529XI, 07 Novembre 2021

Booked a twin room and a single for a girls weekend away ( 3 of us) and was pleasantly surprised to find they had upgraded the single to a double for free. This was so we could have the two rooms close together. We were also pleased that we were all allowed on arrival to check in 3 hours early too as our rooms were ready for us. The hotel building is pretty impressive though of a rather dark style! Lots of statues, portraits and red/gold colours all over. Rooms were small but clean, bed comfy, plenty of hot water and over all had what we needed. Staff about the hotel were friendly too. We didn't get to use other facilities but would stay there again.

"Freezing room"
Ruthymac, 05 Novembre 2021

We stayed here on 31st October for 1 night, we purchased the deal through a Groupon voucher and paid for the Executive room. I had stayed here previously and the room was quite large so was really looking forward to the stay. The room we were given was right at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park. The room was really cold - we sent a whatsapp to the team who advised the heating would start at 6pm, we called again as there was an error code and the room was becoming really chilly. The bathroom radiator also didnt work and the extractor fan in the bathroom was missing (instead there was just a black hole in the ceiling). There were not instruction for the coffee machine, although there was a bag containing milk and instant coffee in the room so we used that. I sent the message to the team about the room being cold at 5.16pm and they responded to me at 19:32. I then got another message at 20.17 to say they had been to look at the heating and it would require maintenance to fix it but they had a left another heater. We were left feeling quite disappointed with the stay and will not be returning. The breakfast was adequate in the morning however there was only 1 lady serving tea/coffee and we waited around 20 mins for a drink, we then had to go and find someone to ask if we could have a drink. The lady walked past out table 3 or 4 times and served others but left us waiting.

"Conference"
susan11212021, 05 Novembre 2021

Service, facilities conference arrangements and food excellent. The bedroom felt small for a double. Suitable for one person for one night but would feel cramped for 2 people and a longer stay. Location excellent.

"Didnt sleep well"
Alisonmaria, 04 Novembre 2021

We stayed here 2 nights ago, the hotel is nice we was given a room on the 2nd floor. The windows were very thin, you could hear everything. We hardly slept because of this i was very dissapointed in this They need to get double glazing

"Hotel full of character"

"Great location lovely hotel"
sanariaz2021, 29 Octobre 2021

Hotel was clean and in a good location to the centre. There is a car park at the back that is easy I'll accessible. the rooms could really do with being updated and we're very warm but had a fab located in the room. Customer service was excellent and could not fault it.

"Convenient well run hotel"
Denise S, 28 Octobre 2021

This was our first time at the Queens Hotel. The price with secret escapes was good value for money with a meal in the price. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Our Executive Double room was very spacious, clean and well appointed. Some treats on arrival was nice- chocolate and crisps as well as the complimentary water. We asked for a quiet room overlooking the garden area which we got. The toileteries in the bathroom were plentiful. The location is very handy as we could easily walk into town. Parking was a bit pricey at £10.00 but it was for 24 hours and was well lit and felt safe. Our evening meal was tasty and the £30.00 voucher gave us plenty of choice. We would definitely stay again if in Chester.

"Birthday celebration"
V4362XPclairer, 28 Octobre 2021

We booked this hotel for a birthday celebration . Checking in was so good . Nothing too much trouble and our room was ready ahead of time . The hotel was amazing . Fri my he beautiful room which exceeded expectations with robes and toiletries provided . The bar area and restaurant were excellent . The hotel is literally a stones throw from the station and a short walk into the centre . All in all an excellent stay . I will definitely stay there again

"Fabulous Reunion Event at Queens"
129christinec, 26 Octobre 2021

The Hotel made us all very welcome staff were great, food well presented and enjoyable, chef did us proud writing our ship's name in chocolate on every plate ...very impressive. Good organisation, lovely hotel, beautiful gardens, on site parking we can highly recommend!!!

"Great stay"
Pioneer610174, 26 Octobre 2021

Hotel very convenient for Chester Station and Chester itself. The accommodation was very comfortable, the staff very welcoming and professional. I'd particularly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay with pets, as they were set up to accommodate pets.

"Rooms very dated and dirty"
281nikkih, 20 Octobre 2021

The picture of the hotel room on all websites is not the room that they give you. You are put in a room down a very dated corridor, the room is very dated, it had cobwebs on the ceiling lights and the champagne glass sizes didn't even match. You are given a cardboard cup each to last your stay. The reason for this is COVID yet you move rooms to the other side of the hotel and they are porcelain. Whilst on a visit to wales a shop owner asked where we were staying and she had had the exact same problem. The hotel restaurant serves lovely food and the staff are lovely. It's just a shame that they are putting people in these rooms that are in desperate need of renovation.

"Almost perfect"
lynnmcdon, 20 Octobre 2021

We only stayed for 1 night but it is a beautiful hotel. Our room 108 was large, clean had everything needed for a stay. Bed was really comfortable. Food beautiful and friendly staff. The grounds even though it was rainy are amazing. Special thanks to Olivia on reception. Cant wait to return

"Short stay in Cheshire"
john m, 17 Octobre 2021

This hotel is perfectly situated for any visit to central Cheshire. Nice staff, and lovely old fashioned hotel, with well trained and helpful staff. Make sure they don't give you the room next to the lift (if you are not local). Car parking is a bit dear, but that is your choice - it is less than half price just 50 yards down the road.

"Mutton dressed as lamb"
LightPacker627396, 17 Octobre 2021

Well what can I say other than mutton dressed as lamb walked into the hotel it looks beautiful the interior design is amazing i can't fault it but that's as far as it went I got I to my room bearing in mind my company paid for 5 rooms for 5 nights £2500 and omg what a pig sty the room had 1 full strip of wallpaper missing off the wall floor to ceiling the room was so hot couldn't breath the windows open 4 inches the radiator was off but the puokes run across the floor and up through ceiling so just as bad as it being on I had questionabke stains on the curtains and carpet bodily fluids comes to mind the bathroom had balls of black hair on the floor which must of been from the last guest the shower is either scalding hot or cold no inbetween the TV volume doesn't urn up only down I that light fittings hanging out of the ceiling I will attach pictures this is room 222 my company y plans to bring 32 ment back here in January for a 3 week stay but that is not happening now we will seek alternative accommodation very expensive for the quality we googled the area would of been £40 cheaper to stay at the hitlon for same dates also the bath took 20 mins to empty after a 5 min shower

"Not up to the usual standard but returning to normal."
W2704YSkenk, 17 Octobre 2021

We took advantage of their 3 for 2 night offer as we start to travel more and Chester is a great place to visit which we've done several times before. We normally have a trip by train along the North wales coast so the location opposite the station is ideal. We had booked a twin room and it was in need of maintenance which should have been checked before visitors arrived. The bedside lamps would not work, and the air-conditioning wasn't working so we had to have an oil filled portable radiator to warm the room. There was some minor mold around the shower.Beds are comfortable and the breakfast was excellent as usual. The staff were kind and courteous but not entirely effective. There were still some Covid 19 precautions in evidence so things are not quite as they were before despite some visitors behaving like nothing unusual has happened at all these last few months.

"DO NOT STAY HERE"
Colin J, 15 Octobre 2021

Neither check in staff nor bar staff had masks. Could only pay for drinks in bar by card : no cash, no tab, no charge to room. Dinner in restaurant limited to 90 minutes ; we were party of 10 , so ate at local restaurants nearby : Harker Arms really good

"Extremely comfortable with excellent food"
Baggiegirl68, 13 Octobre 2021

We stayed at this hotel via Secret Escapes and had a chilled bottle of prosecco waiting in our Executive Double Room following check in. Evening meals on both nights were high quality and portion sizes were good. The £30 per head meal allowance was generous. Breakfast was also good, though we'd have liked muesli to be among the choices. Good to see veggie sausages among the selection. Our room had a large flatscreen TV, sofa and two easy chairs plus a big bathroom. Water in the shower did run cold occasionally but this is a minor quibble. Delighted with the price we paid for our stay and would return.

"Overnight stay with wife"
phillowe3, 12 Octobre 2021

Had a very enjoyable overnight stay at queens in chester , had a 3course evening meal and breakfast next morning all very nice and served well. Rooms were cosy and inviting and had a good sleep. Overall a very enjoyable stay

"Chester's Best Hotel"
Bill O, 11 Octobre 2021

What a great value, very well decorated hotel, ideal to walk into the city and right across the road from the train station. Plenty of taxis outside if needed and also on a bus route. Parking charges were a bit steep.

"Great weekend stay"
loulouhaines801, 11 Octobre 2021

A great weekend was had at the queen hotel in Chester. Really nice inside and close to everything. Great choice for breakfast and friendly staff. Only thing I'd mention was the watered down orange juice for breakfast.

"Not too shabby"
staceygN7965GA, 06 Octobre 2021

The good - friendly helpful staff. Lovely first impressions on the entrance. City centre location. When I initially read the reviews, I was a little concerned but went with an open mind. Check in was easy and we were quickly given our access key and advised to call reception at any time if we had any further requirements. Our room was clean. The restaurant was easy to book and the staff were friendly. The singer/keyboard player created a lovely atmosphere. Qa One of the staff members on the Saturday night dealt with an obnoxious man's ridiculous complaints in the most admirable manner. The not so good - There was no phone to call reception despite them advising us to if we needed anything. We had to physically go down to reception. It's a huge hotel so a slight inconvenience. Tea and coffee facilities were very basic - paper cups, nothing to stir with, no sugar or sweetners and no complimentary biscuits that we thought all hotels provided (trivial I know but it's the little things that matter). Our room was not serviced or replenished during our stay which meant having to ask for more loo roll etc. The bed was awful. Rock hard. I even considered sleeping on the two chairs, I was in that much discomfort. Neither of us were able to sleep and were in a lot of pain. The restaurant service was incredibly slow. Lots of customers looking around waiting to be served with staff standing around chatting. We asked for sauces for our steak (not listed on the menu) and my husband told me not to bother pouring it on as it was just gravy. He was right - beef gravy with Stilton crumbs!

"Lisa"
LisaP38, 06 Octobre 2021

Fabulous hotel great location great friendly staff highly recommend we will definitely be back. Our first trip to Chester so overwhelmed by all the history. Lots of old shops and lots to explore. We visited Chester Zoo on our day back home, so wonderful you must visit.

"Couples Stay"
jessicaannchapman, 06 Octobre 2021

Was a fantastic stay at Chester for 2 nights, the food was great and could not fault the facilities or staff. Even had a bottle of bubbly waiting for us after a rainy day and it was our wedding anniversary so it was a great addition to the stay.

"really enjoyable experience"
xenadion, 04 Octobre 2021

Hotel rooms and public areas were well maintained and very clean. lots of interesting nooks and crannies and artefacts/decor to enjoy. lovely outside courtyard done up and decorated with a roman theme. The staff were really friendly, hardworking, polite and courteous. Good full breakfast with well spaced out seating.

"Lovely hotel"
lindabelcher, 03 Octobre 2021

Lovely hotel, stayed for 3 nights for our anniversary. Staff very friendly, breakfast efficient. Great location for either train or driving. Central location only 10 minutes walk to the we centre with some great bars along the way

"Charming Hotel"
ebaj67, 29 Septembre 2021

Stayed for 2 nights with bed and breakfast at The Queen Hotel Chester for my husband's birthday along with my parents. Lovely mixture of old features with modern additions to the decor. So conveniently situated for access to the city centre and it's historic sites.

"Queens staff missing in action"
dundee602, 29 Septembre 2021

Booked of Luxury Escapes who are usually reliable but not this time. No doubt in its day the Queens was luxurious and full of expert staff. Covid constrained it is still struggling. 2 nights B&B with Prosecco on arrival. Complicated book in and service management via WhatsApp rather than staff. No obvious room service provided. Breakfast basic but ok. Strong location and always wanted to stay there as next to rail station. Hopefully the Hotel will recover its grand history and get back to providing a more obvious customer service facing team. Eat elsewhere as tons of independent bistros on offer.

"Excellent hotel"
nadineRochdale, 27 Septembre 2021

Stayed at this hotel twice now fantastic hotel rooms well equipped and lovely well located to centre all staff very helpful and friendly and breakfast is fantastic a must if you stay at this hotel had a 2nd great stay

"Great venue"
Mike G, 27 Septembre 2021

Recently stayed for a large group social night…absolutely fantastic service food staff… nothing was too much trouble would definitely recommend to any one as a place to stay for couples or large groups

"A room of disrepair"
718Jonese, 26 Septembre 2021

Overpriced, paid £200 for 1 night stay in a room that would normally cost £100. Had a leaking toilet and cracked sink, then a leaking ceiling, they moved us to another room at 1:10am and gave a discount to the effect of me paying the usual price for the room

"Lovely hotel. Close to the city centre."
Christine W, 24 Septembre 2021

Stayed 2 nights and had a lovely experience. We stayed in the Kings rooms. Room was spacious and clean and had nice touches like a coffee machine and complimentary bottled water and snacks. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty.

"Wow!!!!!!!"
Neiltoon, 23 Septembre 2021

Lovely stay here. Great location, very clean, very comfortable, lovely staff, brilliant breakfast, fantastic value for money... If your staying in Chester this is the place to spend the night... Can not fault this hotel.. Wow wow wow.....

"Nice hotel, fantastic staff."
kimamatthews, 22 Septembre 2021

A group of us visited to celebrate a 30th wedding anniversary. We all stayed in the hotel and had organised a dinner in a private room. The food and service was amazing and attentive. We loved it. Breakfast was lovely and high quality and self service so was great when we needed it to be quick. The room was nice with all we needed. Only thing I would say is that it was hot in the room and would have been nice for air con.

"Top hotel"
Dream27265939317, 22 Septembre 2021

I loved the huge bed and the chairs was nice and soft, extras in room coffee pots crisps &andchocolate nice touch. Wasn't keen on breakfast. And the toaster was either just about brown or if sent back in it came out burnt

"Great evening at this hotel"
keithmI5621MI, 22 Septembre 2021

Went for a 30th wedding anniversary dinner. Staff and management all exceptional. The GM put us all in a private dining room and gave us the very best attention. Helpful, friendly and very professional. Would recommend for any special occasion.

"Overall very good, but a few disappointments."
ianjsharp2019, 17 Septembre 2021

The hotel has a granduer feel as you approach the lobby. Staff efficient and professional. Room clean, and bathroom free of mould, but with a noisy extractor fan. Room was airless and hot. In hindsight I should have asked for a fan. Paper cups on hospitality tray. Restaurant food and service good, although you do need extra sides to bulk the meal. Breakfast was biggest disappointment. No basics such as granola, muesli, orange juice, or muffins. I stayed at Travelodge last week and they had more. Covid, Brexit or lorry drivers are not an acceptable excuse. This is just corner cutting which spoilt our otherwise positive experience.

"Strengths and weaknesses"
BarrieLV, 17 Septembre 2021

The good: Quick and welcoming check-in, convenient parking, excellent buffet breakfast, nice courtyard sitting area. The OK, the room in the new building, quite small but well-equipped. The disappointing: just one lift for seven floors; the room was not serviced - to reduce contacts because of Covid! The poor: a miserable bar, quite the worst.

"Happy stay."
lynnieNottingham, 17 Septembre 2021

Had a 4 night stay for our staycation. Very happy with the room, overlooked the courtyard . Plenty of choices for breakfast. We decided not to have an evening meal there as so many other places to choose from in the town. Great location. What's not to like.

"Old fashioned"
chelsea1393, 15 Septembre 2021

The location of the hotel is fabulous just across from the train station and a short walk to the town centre, there is also a bus stop outside that takes you directly to Chester Zoo and Cheshire Oaks. The hotel lobby was lovely and check in and check out was quick and easy. However, the hotel room really let this hotel down. It was very old fashioned, the bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable, the room and bathroom looked dirty with mould/dirt on the grout. The room was also very hot with no air con and not able to open the window very much. The whole room needs ripping out and re doing.

"Fabulous"
Mazappleyard, 14 Septembre 2021

A beautiful hotel with loads of memrobilia. Great breakfast. Room was very comfortable. Service and friendliness of staff was v. Good. Thanks Anaya for accommodating our requests. Located a minutes walk to rail station with bus stop for Cheshire oaks a two min walk. Approx 20 mins to city centre. A lovely stay. Highly recommended.

"Short Break"
keiths740, 10 Septembre 2021

Nearly five stars...however a few pointers that caused me to deduct a star, The room I was allocated had no relation to the pictures on the website. Although clean it was very dated. Looks like it had been patched up over the years. Also it was in the front of the building and there was a lot of noise from refuse collection and deliveries from 6.30 am onwards. Also the doors to the rooms had to be slammed shut by anyone leaving. I understand they are probably fire doors but cannot just be closed quietly. Onto the good points...excellent breakfasts, good lounge and bar areas. The location is excellent ...train station opposite and good choice of bus stops if you want Liverpool or Chester Zoo directly outside. So come on Best Western speed a little money and refurb the old rooms...Oh and finally the old tv didn't work!

"Excellent position, great staff and very good value for money."
David G, 10 Septembre 2021

An ideal hotel to explore Chester and meet up with friends. Such a good short break we will be returning soon. Food and service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and the odd query was resolved without delay.

"Overnight Stay"
silverblood, 10 Septembre 2021

We have just arrived home from the Queens Hotel in Chester. From the moment we arrived we wer made welcome. We checked in through email so the check in process was very swift. We wer taken to our room and got a lovely surprise,we had been upgraded to a suite, also in the room was a anniversary card to us with a basket of crisps and chocolates. We went out and when we got back to our room the hotel had left us a bottle of prosecco in a ice bucket. Many thanks to the hotel and especially Jessica who had arranged this for us.We will definitely be returning.

"Splendid"
PAUL J, 09 Septembre 2021

Just visited this Hotel with friends for our 25th reunion and wanted something special and we found it what a place, full of charm and very clean, excellent food, lovely big room, and very pleasant and helpful staff, good location just a stroll to town bus stop right outside

"Return visit to Chester"
Len7160, 09 Septembre 2021

Stayed previously at this hotel so returned for a couple of days break. The hotel was under the Covid rules which obviously made this stay different. The staff were courteous the bedroom clean and good accommodation. We were on DBB and although on restricted menus were adequate for this break. We would return in the future.

"Lovely hotel"
jolew2013, 03 Septembre 2021

We had booked into the SureStay hotel, sister to The Queen at Chester but had our reservation changed, not sure why. This hotel & it's staff were lovely. Staff were polite, helpful, friendly and nothing was a problem to them. Our room was spacious with both a shower & a bath. Our view was of a car park but my friends view was of the internal patio/square area of the hotel which was such a lovely space to sit & chill with a coffee or a glass of wine. For chillier evenings there is a hotel bar with 2 smaller snug's next to it. Breakfast was good & well organised coffee could have been a little hotter but that was our only quibble. From the hotel, it's approx a 10 minute walk into the heart of Chester & it's situated opposite the train station so the location is perfect. We wouldn't hesitate to book here again whether with friends, family or both!

"Poor After Service Spoilt a Pleasant Break"
Mark P, 03 Septembre 2021

My wife and I stayed here overnight with my sister and her husband. The rooms were a bit tired with sunken mattresses, enamel coming off the bath etc. but were spacious and overall quite comfortable and the power shower was great. The staff we interacted with were all very pleasant, courteous and professional. The included breakfast was good. At this stage I would have given three to four stars. However, upon our return home on the Saturday evening, we discovered we had left my wife's coat and my shirt behind hanging in the wardrobe. I immediately messages the hotel via their preferred WhatsApp service, and got an instant reply to say someone would check and be in touch the following day (Sunday) They didn't get back to me so I messaged again Sunday and Tuesday and eventually got a response on stating they hadn't got the items. I responded that I couldn't accept that as housekeeping must have found them (if they'd done their job thoroughly) and asked them to check again. They said they would but, although I chased up again, they never got back to me. The following weekend we called head office, but had to leave a message with a promise someone would get back to us. They didn't. I've give up now and won't pursue it any further, but I definitely won't be using Hallmark hotels again.

"Dog came too"
JULIEMESK, 02 Septembre 2021

Had a lovely two night stay with my husband and small dog. Lovely room breakfast was delicious and as much as you like. Only down side was we could not book the restaurant which I didn't realise when I initially booked.

"Run down hotel"
juliecoulter1, 02 Septembre 2021

Needs modernised. Great location for train station.. breakfast was fresh. Rooms were clean. No air conditioning. Room was roasting even with window open. One lift which takes forever. Emailed prior to arriving to check in but still had to wait in a queue for over 40minutes.

"Disgusting food, dodgy parking."
Olicanan, 30 Août 2021

I 'booked' a parking space with YOURPARKINGSPACE. It said Booked. To me, that means I have a space reserved for me, that I paid for in advance - WRONG, actually, all I had done was pay for a space. The car park is open to the public, if there is no space empty when you get there, tough, you're stuffed. And you've been stiffed. For dinner I ordered Cumberland sausage ring with mash, peas and gravy. IT WAS DISGUSTING. It was the nastiest, cheapest sausage I have ever been given, just a turd of cooked slime. The mash had the taste and texture of powdered potato and the gravy was tasteless brown muck. In fairness, the peas were OK. When I complained, the staff laughed - very professional and caring. So, there you have it - don't book the parking, or the dinners. Having got that off my chest, the hotel is quite nice. Breakfast is fine - I'm pleased to say that the morning sausages are nicer than the dinner sausages. Front desk and housekeeping staff were all very friendly and helpful. Maybe the waiting staff should go on the same training course.

"First stay after covid release Queen at Chester."
daveziller2021, 27 Août 2021

One of the best hotels we have visited, decor is lovely , rooms very nice and unique theme decor. 2 night stay both with breakfast and eve meal. All food very nice and staff all attentive and friendly.

"Great location"
CharlotteEmmaL, 26 Août 2021

The hotel is in the perfect location to explore Chester - the centre is about a 10 minute walk away. We stayed for 2 nights in the newer part of the hotel in a nice room. It was on the small side but had everything we needed. A nice touch was the basket of crisps and chocolate. The bathroom had a big bath and a separate shower. The bath had red nail varnish marks all over the bottom which made it feel unclean, housekeeping just need a little bit of nail varnish remover to get them off! There is parking next to the hotel which is expensive, we paid £15 a day. Upon arrival we couldn't pay at the machine as it was coins only so tried to download the app but to no avail. A passing couple told us they had problems too and that we could pay at reception in the hotel. This should be advertised in the car park as it caused us to have a slightly stressful arrival. There are restrictions in place due to Covid and if you need to contact reception, you have to send them a message via WhatsApp?! Our message was responding to quickly and efficiently, however we felt this approach lacked the personal touch. Breakfast was good with lots to choose from. You do have a book a time slot for breakfast with only 11am being available on our first day.

"My worse stay in a hotel for a long time."
suzannevhall24, 25 Août 2021

The superior room that I had booked was a joke, dusty and stuffy smelling. The TV reception was shocking and had to be repaired. In the bathroom someone had drawn a huge erect penis on the mirror! Trying to get room service was also terrible as no one answered the phone. And finally I was woken up at 6.20am by a really loud delivery with laundry trucks being dragged past my window. When I complained to the General manager he was no help at all and made me feel like crying! He was an awful man who ended an awful night's stay in this awful hotel. Never again!

"Really lovely stay"
Debbiedivacat, 25 Août 2021

Excellent Had a lovely one night stay here on en-route to Liverpool. Parking was close by and staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Room was lovely and evening meal was delicious. It was a warm evening so we enjoyed drinks out in garden/ courtyard. Had a great stay. Would recommend and will be back

"Gone downhill"
mark1johnstone, 25 Août 2021

Stayed at this hotel few years back. Maybe before it was a BW? Could not fault it. Concierge at the door, parking included, nice lounge and bar. Great decor etc. Not now. Understaffed. £25 to park the car for 2 nights. Very poor buffet breakfast. This hotel could be great again. Location is fantastic as is the building. But not reaching its potential.

"Most enjoyable stay"
bluenose580, 13 Août 2021

The hotel is a gem and ranks at the top for the hotels we have stayed in in the U.K. Great location opposite the railway station with HOHO bus stop and bus to the zoo within 100 metres . Within walking distance of the city wall 15-20 minutes .There are 2 distinct room areas one being the original hotel the other a modern large extension in which the rooms are smaller than the original . The décor in the main is striking with many statues ,artefacts, pictures /portraits and the history of the hotel depicted .One drawback of the main is there is no air con but otherwise all the main /modern facilities are present . The lounge and bar areas are spacious and quiet with many full length portraits of royalty .There is a quite stunning Roman garden in between the 2 room areas which is also "littered" with statues and a central fountain .Pets are catered for .

"Excellent hotel!"
lozem28, 12 Août 2021

Stayed here for 2 nights and would highly recommend to others. We stayed in an executive room which was lovely, well decorated and spacious. The breakfast was delicious and very well organised to be COVID secure with different time sittings to choose from. The location is great, only a 5-10 min walk along to Grosvenor Park and the shops/restaurants and the bus stop to get to Chester Zoo & Cheshire Oaks is just across the road. One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in, I will definitely be staying here again when I come back to Chester in the future!

"Lovely stay in Chester."
davidclarke91, 11 Août 2021

Stayed at the Queens Hotel in Chester for 2 nights. Had breakfast on both days and an evening meal on one night. Overall, loved the stay. Hotel staff were all very friendly, and the other guests were all very friendly and COVID respectful. Would thoroughly recommend the hotel.

"Lovely hotel"
DayTrip660388, 11 Août 2021

Breakfast was very good, however my sister is gluten free and all they offered was bread and cereal, just thought with an hotel like this, they could have offered a sausage and hash brown alternative too. The evening menu didnt offer anything exciting for gluten free either. Hotel itself is charming and comfortable. Would go again.

"Relaxing weekend in Chester"
mrskear, 11 Août 2021

From arrival to departure the experience was fantastic! The staff were professional, friendly and efficient. The hotel itself tastefully decorated and in keeping with it's heritage. Our room was spotless and very comfortable. We ate in the dining room one evening which was a lovely experience. Breakfast was a great set up for the day too. We will definitely be going back in the future.

"Chester break"
Navigate714740, 30 Juillet 2021

We received a warm welcome from the staff. The room was very pleasant and well equipped. A lovely touch to find a Nespresso machine and bottle of Prosecco on ice in the room when we arrived. Breakfast had to be booked on the hour so this proved frustrating on the first morning due to everyone arriving together. Delaying our breakfast for half an hour resolved this on the second morning. Note that the hotel is a 15 minutes walk to city centre. Bus service from station opposite.

"This was to celebrate our brothers 70th Birthday"
DayTrip12058844160, 30 Juillet 2021

What a lovely hotel very clean all staff friendly and nothing was to much trouble, food was fantastic both evening meal and breakfast, great location, lovely court yard to relax in it was a bonus we had lovely weather, we went for a 70th birthday celebration, we got there early and our room was ready so we could get in, the room was lovely very clean both room and bathroom spotless, definitely stay again

"Fantastic Stay"
annbG4402DR, 28 Juillet 2021

We had an overnight stay at the Queen Hotel yesterday, we found the hotel very clean and up to date, with good furnishing in the bedroom. The staff were really lovely, from the reception staff on our arrival, all they way through our stay, everybody was friendly but also professional. If we stay in Chester again, we would certainly go back to this hotel, I would recommend with out a doubt. Ann

"Luxurious yet comfortable"
Loobylou74, 27 Juillet 2021

I booked 2 standard twin rooms for myself and 3 teenagers. The first room came with 3 single beds and the 2nd with a double and a single. We were really happy with them. They were in the newer part of the hotel (rooms 145 & 147) and overlooked the garden so it was quiet, but to be honest, as the location isn't city centre (a 10 min walk max), I think it would be pretty quiet whichever way your room faced. We preferred this location. The public spaces are beautiful. With a luxurious yet comfortable feel. The Albert Suite is a lovely room to sit in and have a quiet drink in the evening and the gardens, which close at 10pm, were a really nice space to sit out with an early evening drink too. We didn't eat here, as it was an overnighter. The reception and bar staff were helpful and friendly. When we stayed here the guests were mainly older and middle aged couples. The car park is through an arch marked 'Mews' and is clearly visible from the front of the hotel. We arrived at 11am and didn't need to pay for the 24hrs til we checked in at 3pm, because it's registration recognition, the receptionist told us that so long as we didn't drive away before check in, we wouldn't be ticketed. I'd definitely stay here again. The teenagers felt it was a proper grown up treat to be staying here instead of the usual cheap n basic. The price for 2 standard twin around £150 for 1 night which is comparable to the cheap n basic. So excellent value.

"Statues and Chandeliers"
gazwcave, 26 Juillet 2021

The Hotel was built to house first class rail passengers so as expected the place is of a decent size with plenty of Statues and Chandeliers. I have never seen a staircase like it in a hotel. Is a pleasure to walk around it. Room Service food Menu I thought it could of been of a better quality. I will stay in this hotel again because of its location, so easy to take day trips from Chester as the train station is just across the road. Friendly staff

"Brilliant staff, lovely hotel."
shirleym57, 23 Juillet 2021

We thoroughly enjoyed our staff, the hotel and food were excellent. However the staff made it for us, polite, friendly and chatty, they were the real asset at the Queens. The room was well air conditioned which we certainly needed. The outside courtyard was also an asset.

"Chester stay"
viviengriffiths7, 22 Juillet 2021

Hotel was full of history a little dated but excellent value for money a very enjoyable stay. A little walk to the centre of Chester but the weather was lovely we stopped at a lovely bar by the canal for lunch .

"A secret gem"
sapper1993, 22 Juillet 2021

What a find, the hotel was like something you read about in 1930,s novel. Looked fantastic from the outside and got better when you went in. The service levels throughout our stay were excellent. A truly great experience, will return very soon for more.

"Excellent stay"

verhanby, 09 Juillet 2021

We stayed 2 nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal. Very good price, easy access to Chester city being right opposite the train station. Enjoyed the sights of Chester even with changeable weather.Hotel is clean staff very helpful and did a good job under COVID guidelines. Would visit again.

"Weekend break"
605Chrish, 08 Juillet 2021

I booked this hotel through a third party. The room was pleasant enough, but the room wasn't cleaned during our visit. We were told that this was because of covid and housekeeping would not be entering our room. If we wanted clean towels or tea, coffee, etc they would be left just inside the door. I thought this was ridiculous as they have to enter the room when we leave anyway, so what's the difference if they enter the room when we're not there .Queues were long for breakfast- surely better to have service at the table. Also there was a sewerage problem which was being addressed the day we were leaving.

"Celiac Guest"
JohnPaulO24, 08 Juillet 2021

Our experience was very good. The food is a problem to me as I have Celiac Disease and I am on a strict Gluten-free diet. The majority of the staff understood and tried to accommodate my dietary needs. My feedback, would be that all staff members that are dealing with a celiac, should be properly briefed prior their arrival on the disease and have a full understanding, especially when the celiac guest has notified them prior to their visit, (Thus eliminating the guest to continually declare that they are celiac. This would provide a smooth experience for the guest and staff ). Also, a debrief procedure should occur, so that all personnel know how the experience went. Both good and bad. Celiac disease is serious and needs careful management by the hotel team, knowing how food is prepared and the use of gluten-free ingredients. Preparation area and utensils are very important. I would recommend this hotel and we do intend to use it again. However, I would hope that my comments are taken on board for me and any other Celiacs.

"Nice hotel despite breakfast chaos"
T6158WGjohnw, 29 Juin 2021

Good hotel. MOST staff are friendly and helpful. BUT........ our breakfast experience was that it was chaotic and completely disorganised. Senior staff seemed to just stand around as junior staff individually did their best. Covid rules wasn't helping, but there was zero effort to make things any better. The result was long queues to get into the dining room, and equally long queues to get food. I doubt prisoners wait longer to get fed in gaol! Simply not good enough!!!

"Wedding anniversary weekend"
davidflemming2021, 29 Juin 2021

This was our first stay at Chester and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The hotel was absolutely wonderful. We had a card and a bottle of fizz on arrival. They even put a congratulatory message on our dessert bowl. The staff were supurb

"Hotel and location decent ok stay"
tonyW611, 29 Juin 2021

To start I should say this was a Wowcher so for the price a room, dinner, breakfast and bottle of Prosecco was very good. The aesthetics of the hotel is amazing, from the courtyard with the statues to the bronze warriors in the corridor, everything was excellent. The rooms well equipped with air con, bath robe, bath rain fall shower, hairdryer, tea and coffee, 2 random chocolate bars, couple of bags of pipers crisps and a couple of bottles of water. The booking in process was done via a qr code and was very quick the room was ready at 1330 not 1600 which was nice. So why only 3 stars? well: We stayed in an executive room and the bed although comfy was very small, I'm 6'3 and a decent size, I spent most of the night either pushing my other half out of or falling out of bed. The bath water was redders yet when you turn to the shower it's temperature was prob 40% of the bath. Then to breakfast we booked in at 9, and finally sat down at 9:45 getting breakfast at 10:15. We were told it was 30 min slots !!! I know it has to be table service due to covid but every tray service for room service incurs a £5 fee!! Not sure who the lad with the ginger hair was but he needs a pay rise serving just about everyone as quick as he possibly could sometimes on his own. The food was good, nothing you would say wow it's the best meal I've had, also at night several were using the candles on the table to read the menu - atmospheric? Nah it was just dark. Staff were lovely, just need better processes in place for them to work too All in all a pleasant stay - would I stop without a deal being on offer - probably not.

"Lovely hotel"
Terval782, 27 Juin 2021

Beautiful old characterful hotel. Speedy check in.All very Covid secure, which obviously impacted on some of the services which was completely understandable. Our double room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The bathroom was bright with shower over a bath. Shampoo and shower gel were provided in pump dispensers .Tea and coffee were provided sealed in a plastic bag with paper cups which was understandable during this pandemic. There were also two wrapped anti bacteria wipes provided. Breakfast in theKings Grill was delicious. We had to book a time slot, which I suppose made sure it wasn't overcrowded. The choice was good and were served by staff but able to chose as food was on display. Orange juice and water was available in individual bottles ,as was the milk which was in a small bottle on the table. There was a bottle of hand sanitiser on each table. The only negative was the car parking charge of £10 for 24 hrs.

"Good, but not good enough."
I F, 27 Juin 2021

Only a night spent at the establishment, however, that's all it took to understand that it's mismanaged. With regret, and as pleasant the staff are, none of them really knows what their role is, nor any structure to the operations. Dinner is very poor quality. While working on a reduced menu, which is only fair in these times, you'd expect things to be perfect with the little they had. Definitely not the case. From getting a drink to being served a coffee in the morning, all a bit strange. If you're told that tea and coffee is served to you at the table, you'd expect this to be poured at or near the beginning of your breakfast, not once you've finished it, and only cause I got up to grab a member of staff to do so. Overall good, but mismanaged service is a letdown.

"Hotel good, kings grill shocking"
debralhardy1, 25 Juin 2021

Hotel room in the kings part of the hotel was great very clean, good size. However the food in the kings Grill was not good. The menu was pub grub but not good pub grub. Not what is shown on the kings grill web site. I know things are difficult with Covid but think the hotel forgot to get their chefs back off furlough

"Fantastic staff"
sld20212021, 25 Juin 2021

Our recent stay at The Queen in Chester was a most enjoyable experience. Our room was extremely comfortable and everything was well organised to cope with Covid restrictions. All the staff were helpful and friendly, offering fantastic service. . I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting the area.

"Excellent"
debbi0409, 24 Juin 2021

Have stayed here couple of times now always satisfied, excellent hotel and lovely Italian courtyard, good location- near the station and within walking distance of shops and restaurants, would recommend

"Good stay until breakfast time"
Liz W, 17 Juin 2021

Visited for one night with my sister. Check in fine, room was ready early. Booked dinner but first available slot we were told was 8.30pm but then changed immediately to 8.45pm. Executive Room was very good, clean and spacious. Complimentary bottle of Prosecco was bonus. Sat outside to enjoy it. Evening dinner delayed further as dining room still full at 8.45. Given voucher to get complimentary wine or spirits in bar. Told to come back in 10- 15 mins which we did. Seated quickly. Tables too near to each other but table next to us,was empty. Evening dinner was very good - 3 courses served quickly and reasonable choice. Good nights sleep. Hotel very quiet. Our stay was let down by breakfast. Tables far too close to each other- certainly some less than half a metre. People having to weave in and out of tables to get cereal, water fruit( only tangerines available) yogurt. Then had to queue for served cooked breakfast which was very poor. Bacon was reasonable, cremated sausages, dried up mushrooms, overcooked hash brown, cold toast. Tea and coffee served at table out of big flasks was undrinkable. I asked then for Earl Grey tea which came in a teapot and was hot and very acceptable. My sister asked for decaf coffee after checking if cappuchino was available- of course it wasnt- the decaf was again bitter and undrinkable. Tables left full of debris and finished tables not cleared. Staff seemed "thin on the ground" and are friendly and helpful and work hard. None of this is their fault. We heard someone say a lot of the staff were agency staff as hotel wouldnt employ more staff- cant say whether this is true or not. We have stayed in this hotel before and had very pleasant stays. Pity this time our stay although enjoyable was let down by Covid rules of distancing not being adhered to in the dining room and good food poorly cooked and presented. Markings on floor throughout hotel were clear showing one way system

"A Hotel with Character"
B3256ZFdrewc, 17 Juin 2021

Stayed here on a voucher deal for one night. Really enjoyed the stay. Friendly attentive staff and Covid safe. One of the best hotels for character I have stayed in. Our room was big, clean and had a huge TV. Bathroom was spotless large clean towels and liquid soap and shampoo. Breakfast was well organised and you could have as much to eat as you wanted. No complaints about this hotel and we will definitely be back.

"Excellent stay, superb location."
Andrea B, 14 Juin 2021

We had an excellent stay, staff very professional and attentive, a touch of luxury, excellent food, very clean and stylish. I had forgotten something I needed and within 15 minutes the hotel reception had it delivered to our room. Location is fantastic, we had a lovely walk along the canal. Overall an excellent experience and will definitely be back.

"Executive Room"
B6849AXmickc, 14 Juin 2021

Well done to the staff at the Queen, room was very good. Only had drinks and breakfast, both of a good standard. This was a last minute booking, I used BW points to get a free night and it was definitely worth it. The reception staff gave an easy start to the break we had, all the staff couldn't do enough for you with everywhere being spotless.

"Good anti-Covid measures"
check06, 14 Juin 2021

Enjoyable stay in a very clean , well organised hotel. Warm welcome and bottle of wine in the room and 4 free drinks over the 3 night stay. Clear one way system operating. Breakfast was good, with service of hot and cold food from dedicated screened area. Table service for evening meal with a reduced but sufficient menu. £10 per night car parking round the back of the hotel, but temporary parking at front of hotel whilst unloading. 10 minute walk into Chester. Near railway station, but no noise heard. A/C in room was good.

"2 day stay"
johnatkinson60, 10 Juin 2021

This hotel is opposite the railway station and close to all the bus stops around the area. Parking is great too just through the arch. A 10 minute walk into the city centre, we caught the bus back every 10 minutes. All the staff polite and pleasant a quick checkin too. Due to COVID restrictions masks to be worn but no problem A nice court yard with bar service for a nice drink in the sun All the meals were really good too

"The Queen at Cheat"
MattH4498, 10 Juin 2021

Went to this hotel for a few days and was not what I had hoped for - put in a very dated room in a building that smelt of sewage or poor drains. Breakfast was ok but could have been better. No places for evening meal - £10 to park per night the list goes on. Would stay there again and you don't seem to stay in the main building but in a other old building out the back. Anyway better luck next time I guess

"Very Disappointing"
C6067JMmichaelh, 28 Mai 2021

If you book an executive room you will be in an ugly annex behind the main hotel. These rooms are tiny with the smallest bathroom i have ever had to endure. The continently breakfast consisted of a selection of cereal and milk. We experienced a battle royal between two scouse " ladies " who were not thrown out of the hotel. Requested repairs to the bathroom were ignored and on chequing out we were asked to pay for one extra night which had been payed for before we arrived. Chester is a wonderful destination but next time we will be staying 100 mts from this hotel at the Premier inn.

"Fab short break"
TheDragonMidlands, 28 Mai 2021

Booked 2 night break via Secret Escapes and was initially worried it wouldn't be as promised. But I can honestly say for the price we paid - it was exceptionally good value. We had dinner bed and breakfast and a fabulous Kings room. Check in was well organised - allowed to park and visit the city whilst awaiting our room to be ready. Nice selection of 3 course evening meal choices which was included. The first night the restaurant staff seemed a little disorientated but improved greatly the second night. Good choice of cold and hot breakfast selection. Only complaint for me was my fish I had on the first night seemed over cooked or had been kept warm too long and batter was very very dry and so the fish however other peoples looked fine. Hotel on the whole doing everything possible to keep everyone Covid safe. Would definitely stay again though - price - location - service etc all excellent

"Enjoyable short break"
stevew555, 28 Mai 2021

We stayed only a week or so after lockdown eased and it is clear that the hotel is improving its practices and procedures for the benefit of guests as time goes on. This is surely only to be expected? We checked in smoothly on line prior to arrival and were given our room an hour or so before we should have been in. We'd been promised a bottle of fizz in the room which wasn't there but having WhatsApped reception as per the online information leaflet, this was delivered 10 minutes later. Sure, some things aren't as they were but the team of staff were trying their best to accommodate- give them a break! Enjoyed our two nights here and would return.

"Highly recommend, lovely hotel, wonderful staff"
CatherineFrank2021, 27 Mai 2021

Considering the COVID restraints a wonderful experience from start to finish. Professional helpful, friendly staff., excellent attention to detail. Very high standard of cleanliness, felt safe. Lovely room, comfortable bed, excellent breakfast and wonderful dining experience during evening dinner. We will definitely return.

"Do not stay here"
sandrathompson71, 27 Mai 2021

Chaos in reception on arrival, room not ready even at 11.30pm. Very dated rooms and bar area not very clean. Bar staff not friendly and no atmosphere at all. Would not recommend this hotel and definitely not a 4*.

"relaxing"
jstewart1883, 21 Mai 2021

every facility and staff were very helpful in making our stay enjoyable,no hassle and we left happy and relaxed, just what we came for.every facet was thought of,and any enquiries were succinctly dealt with

"Chester staycation"
eileenmackie, 21 Mai 2021

Post lockdown trip for elderly , infirm folk who thoroughly enjoyed this hotel. Access from railway to hotel is superb ( opposite ) Bus stop outside hotel; staff printed bus timetable for our trips . City itself is very interesting as most places were within reasonable walking distance ( shops, cathedral, amphitheatre & gardens)

"Full of Charm"
ChipCobb, 21 Mars 2021

Stayed here for one night before a business trip the following day. Understandably, the hotel is very quiet at the moment and operating differently. We called the phone number at the front door to be allowed in. As there was no food or drink being served we got a takeaway and were kindly provided with plates, cutlery and glasses. My room was huge! Plenty of old style charm but modern enough to have power sockets, including USB, next to the bed. The bathroom was also large, very clean, with toiletries provided, however, I would suggest that the large bathroom window needs some sort of blind or curtain as the toilet is next to the window and probably projects an unfortunate silhouette to the people of the railway station! The only other minor issue was that our breakfasts weren't delivered to our room as we had agreed but we were provided with them on check out. There were pastries, yogurt, porridge, fruit and cereal bars included. I would return to the hotel.

"Vintage charm"
UK-plus-Europe, 06 Février 2021

First impressions were good, loved the charming vintage decor and antiques. Understandable staff reduction due to covid, We occupied 3 rooms all together; the first move was due to a non-flushing toilet. We stayed the night in the second room but was freezing due to lack of heating and window stuck open. These first 2 rooms were spacious old style with antique furniture and a lovely four-poster. We needed to use the 3rd room in the morning, as the 2nd had no hot water either. This room was smaller and had been modernised with quality fittings and hot running water. One wonders why we were not offered this room in the first place, which would have saved on cleaning. Very helpful staff though. Would stay again but ask for a fully functional room from the outset.

"Exceptional service"
jacquipointon1, 27 Janvier 2021

I'm a nurse and was stranded on my way home from work during the recent storm was frightened and expecting to spend the night in my car. My son rang the Queen Hotel and they made a warm room available to me. So friendly and helpful. Thank you so much.

"The Queen of chester"
leestruthers25, 21 Décembre 2020

The hotel is amazing it's very clean and the staff are very welcoming. The rooms are lovely and very clean. The breakfast is additional cost but is well worth the money. I would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in a central Chester location. Also you are only 20 minutes from Cheshire oaks. Overall I'd say 10 out of 10

"Staff were amazing!"
Chloe H, 13 Décembre 2020

We had a great stay at the Queen at Chester. The staff were all amazing, especially Jessica who really went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was also lovely and room was nice and spacious!

"Alex"
alexmakin1, 10 Décembre 2020

Such a relaxing stay after a stressful year as we both work in the NHS. Staff were so friendly and efficient and couldn't do enough to make our stay as stress free as possible eg booking taxis and running up to our room with more amenities. Room was beautiful, very clean and really comfy bed. Also the power shower was fantastic!!

"Fabulous staff"
dnct50, 09 Décembre 2020

The Queens Hotel Staff are doing a tremendous job, they are hardworking, friendly and carrying out every effort to make the guest stay safe and pleasurable we stayed for two nights and would highly recommend the cleanliness and comfort of this hotel and in this unusual times we are in they are making every effort to keep guests safe.

"Belting"
cathyl0u76, 06 Décembre 2020

Perfection. Would highly recommend. Staff were amazing. Hotel was spotless. Room service was amazing. Totally impressed with the cleanliness and professionalism of staff. Would book again without a doubt.?No negatives whatsoever!

"Poor service"
stuartfX6006IO, 10 Novembre 2020

I stayed with my partner in September. The arrival was okay considering the covid restrictions. I have stayed there a few times on business and received good service hence taking my partner. There was a used tissue next to the bed and also the shower was freezing. I mentioned this on my checkout but was quite shocked it wasn't acknowledged and I wasn't offered a partial refund or anything. Really dissapointed

"Wedding breakfast"
J9329ZLjoycew, 05 Novembre 2020

I cannot praise the Queens hotel and in particular Louise Turner and her team, highly enough. My daughters wedding had to be cancelled for a second time at the weekend with the new Covid lockdown. The church however was willing and able to accommodate a ceremony yesterday 4th November, to beat the restrictions. Louise and her team with 48 hours notice provided a wedding reception that was...awesome. The food was the best i have ever ate, presented beautifully with some magical little touches added in. The Palazzo suite was perfect for a small intimate gathering, this too was presented exactly as originally planned. Their attention to detail could not be faulted. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The Queens itself was perfect for photographs with it's sweeping staircase and lovely mirrored corridors. Thankyou Louise and team you made the newly weds reception a day to remember for all the right reasons.

"Very poor customer service"
francoltas, 04 Novembre 2020

We arrived at the hotel on Wednesday and when we entered the room we discovered that the bedside lamps didn't work, there was no creamer/milk on the tray, and there were cardboard cups. In the bathroom the toilet roll holder was missing off the wall and there were several large cracks in the tiles by the sink. I messaged reception and a young man came to investigate. After trying various sockets for the lamps, and at my husband's suggestion, he eventually changed the bulbs. I pointed out the missing toilet roll Holder, he said 'oh yes, looks like it's been missing a while'. I pointed out the cracked tiles- no comment. The following day I asked for creamer and paper cups (the original ones were soggy) When we returned late in the afternoon, there was no creamer, and no cups. Four times I told staff that the hand sanitizer by the front door was empty- it was still empty when we left. Would definitely not recommend this hotel.

"Nice Communal Areas, However In Need Of Facelift"
brianlP7358PF, 13 Octobre 2020

All in all a nice stay but suite we stayed in was tired, noisy water pipes above us and the exterior could use little facelift. The bathroom flooring was terribly marked also. Staff were very pleasant however and a pleasure to deal with.

"Queen at Chester"
jt w, 12 Octobre 2020

Hotel was nice. The people facing were very noisy at times. It was also a shame we found the previous quests tights on the floor near the radiator. I also would of liked a brew in a proper cup not a paper cup.

"Anniversary ruined "
Lanyon90, 11 Octobre 2020

My husband booked a 1 night stay in this hotel for our first wedding anniversary. We received an email prior to check in advising us to check in online to make the process quicker and reduce contact with others due to covid. We did this, however it must not have worked as upon arrival we had to check in as normal, we could collect our key at 3:30. When we came back to collect the key we had to queue again. The whole process was slightly odd with the amount of queuing we had to do but I understand Saturdays are busy. We were impressed by how beautiful the hotel was, particularly the reception area. We were allocated room 230 which is a large family room. It is in need of a bit of tlc, the wallpaper on the ceiling is coming away and I was slightly concerned about the cleanliness - especially with COVID (water still in the kettle and some sudocrem on the floor by the window). The floor of the shower is peeling away and there was a cigarette burn on one of the chairs. Needless to say we overlooked it all aiming to have a lovely weekend in Chester. We have an 8 week old baby who came with us so we expect an early(ish) night to “sleep when she sleeps”. At 10:30pm we attempted to go to sleep only to be kept awake until around 2am by noise and a warm room. We had already asked for a fan which we received, and we opened the 1 window that actually worked. The room we were allocated was by a door way so anyone on our corridor would pass our room on the way back from their nights out. Although bars and pubs currently close at 10pm, different people were constantly shouting and walking up and down the corridor for 3+ hours. The people in the room above us were still making noise when I fed my baby at 5am!!! Constant creaking floor boards and footsteps above. Why when you book a family room would you be placed around people who clearly have come for nights out? This is the worst nights sleep I have had since the day my baby was born! We complained to the reception staff who were very understanding and offered to change our room but as it was 1am and my daughter was asleep we did not want to disturb her. We were therefore advised to speak to the manager when they arrived at 7am regarding a refund. I spoke with the manager who did apologise but explained it is normal for the hotel to be loud on a Saturday night and said there isn't much they can do and that with lockdown restrictions people are bringing drinks back to their rooms. She also explained that family rooms also can have 4 adults in and are randomly allocated. We were offered a 20% refund which we have accepted. If you want a night out stay here. It's a good price for 4 adults sharing a room. If you are a family AVOID!! Having said this every member of staff we came across were very nice and helpful but after a total of 1 1/2 hours sleep with a baby who slept well I felt more than disappointed with our anniversary trip.

"BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC HOTEL"
Esther70s, 08 Octobre 2020

We had a wonderful stay here for a couple of nights. The Room was in the new block but I wished I'd asked to be in the main hotel as the rooms there are nicer in my opinion. Breakfast was good lots of food.. Bar & restaurant was closed but room service for drinks & food still available. Staff friendly and helpful My only criticism is that our room was noisy at night ( some water tank close by) Seemed a bit short staffed too

"Beautiful hotel, friendly staff"
gemcornwall, 05 Octobre 2020

We had booked a weekend away in Chester for my husband's birthday and got a great deal at The Queen. We parked next to the hotel, having booked online beforehand so saved money. Check-in was very smooth - we arrived early but the room was already ready for us and the lady that checked us in was very friendly and informative. Everywhere was very clean and there were clear markings on the floor and on doors to maintain social distancing etc. Our room was beautifully laid out and was very clean so we felt completely safe staying there during the pandemic. Room service via Whatsapp was great and very quick. We went for a drink in the bar in the evening and the atmosphere was good. The staff were friendly and the drinks prices were very reasonable. All in all it was a great stay and we would happily return.

"Excellent Service"
robsee1510, 03 Octobre 2020

Went to Queens for my wife's 50th for three days. My wife fell down the stairs on the way to our room. Potential broken ankle. Thanks to Nadine the hotel manager, Dan the first aider and all the reception staff for their care and service. Sadly, we had to come home this morning for x-rays, but hopefully we will visit the Queen's again soon. Thank you to you all.

"Lovely hotel "
elaine04, 29 Septembre 2020

Just stayed here for a break the room was lovely and the staff were very friendly and very helpful we had breakfast on the last day which was very nice . The hotel is just outside the railway station which was great for us .We had to vacate the room for 11am but we were able to leave our luggage . We are definitely going to stay here again.

"not as previously experienced"
Christopherkut1, 28 Septembre 2020

no air con, a dusty old oil heater. not what was expected of a suite. bath tv was broken just a poor effort. agree its not going to be up to normal quality due to covid and understaffed but could have done better.

"Brilliant! But family room bed situation needs improving"
658sassy, 27 Septembre 2020

Overall our stay at the Queen was fantastic - room spotlessly clean and incredibly spacious. Very friendly staff at reception. We chose a family room as there were three of us. The double bed was fantastic, but the second was a double sofa bed which was extremely uncomfortable - mattress was very thin (like a cot mattress), whole thing was on the slant, and the slats of the base were fabric so the mattress kept going down the gaps - I am a petite 23 year old. In the end I had to move the mattress on to the floor to get to sleep. The sofa bed would be fine for a young child, but definitely not an adult (the room was advertised for 3 adults). Only other small thing is the parking situation - the hotel had its own carpark, but guests are charged £10 per 24 hours and £15 at weekends, which seems quite a lot extra to have to pay on top of the room rate. Aside from these two small things however, the Queen was really brilliant and we would absolutely recommend!

"Excellent"
01214214, 26 Septembre 2020

Just stayed at The Queens for one night on a travel zoo deal in an Executive Room. Couldn't fault a thing great room friendly staff lovely breakfast and very covid safe would highly recommend. Well done to you all. Chester is a lovely city to explore too all in all a great night away.

"City break"
Mrgrumpy112, 26 Septembre 2020

Stayed for one night with my wife. Fantastic experience in strange times. The staff were great and the hotel spotlessly clean. The room was great also. I would highly recommend for a good city break..

"Great short break"
Taffboy49, 24 Septembre 2020

Apologies if this seems a bit over the top but it is the first time I have bothered to write a hotel review. We have visited Chester a number of times and always meant to visit the zoo. This time we made it, ‘brilliant'. Staying at the Queen was also a first and what a good choice. The interior even exceeds the impressive facade. Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed extremely comfortable. The Italienate fittings, sculptures and fountains around the hotel make it really atmospheric even if one roman soldier displayed more than a passing resemblance to spider man! The staff were outstanding in their efforts to negate the effects of Covid 19 and even managed a perfectly acceptable ‘full English ‘ option breakfast whilst fastidiously maintaining the necessary social distancing. After leaving Chester, we broke our journey home with a short stay at a popular chain hotel in Cheltenham. It was perfectly fine in every respect but we found ourselves commenting to each other that it ‘wasn't as nice as the Queen'. Many thanks to all the staff at the Queen who contributed to making our short holiday thoroughly enjoyable.

"Shocking"
ckrnchn, 22 Septembre 2020

Had a weekend booked two weeks ago and paid for it via booking.com. Arrived and was told they hadn't received payment from booking.com even though I had all proof of confirmation including bank statement. The manager was very unhelpful and unprofessional and we were told I could only stay if I paid another £300. We then went to another hotel and paid £300 for the weekend. Been constantly messaging and phoning booking, com to just be fobbed off. Still no refund, absolutely shocking. We are nhs staff and this was a much needed break! Disgraceful!

"Beautiful hotel with staff who can't do enough for you"
MJFaccini, 19 Septembre 2020

Came for two nights in the middle of covid but found a little gem. The hotel is beautiful and the staff were so helpful. The organisation of the covid rules are well thought out and do not interfere to much with your stay

"Decent in the end"
Andrew C, 19 Septembre 2020

It's s grand building with interesting decoration. The rooms are comfortable but need refreshing, seeming a bit dated and used now. Staff very helpful, even if it did take a couple of attempts to make things right.

"Inconsistent and poor leadership "
Exiles, 18 Septembre 2020

On arrival waited in the lobby for 7-8mins with not a sole to be seen. Once eventually checked in, which was relatively simple, went to my room. First impressions were good but on closer inspection and having found the cigarette butts on the window sill I wasn't feeling so positive Appreciate it's a different time at present so ordered some food on their app, it arrived 1hr 35mins later with its plastic spoon and fork The final insult was the bed, actually the mattress, which clearly had seen better days and lost all shape From the staff I met, they were doing their best, but certain shifts they seemed over worked. It's a shame that some hotels have stepped up in this crisis and others seem to be taking an alternative view. I won't be back.

"Need to improve Covid-19 "

When we checked in the receptionist was miserable, but the one who took over at 2pm was really pleasant. We had to choose a time we wanted our breakfast from a list of suggested times. The room we were given was in the annex and was clean and very comfortable. We went down for breakfast at our time and there were quite a number of people queuing. There were only 2 staff to serve us. The second morning the same again, people queuing. When we entered the restaurant there were many tables that had not been cleared and it looked a mess. We were shown to our table, I noticed milk the shape of the milk bottle that the milk was served in on the table. Obviously the table had not been sanitized properly. There were only 2 staff again trying to cater for 20+ people. I think the hotel got it wrong allocating time slots. Just let people come to the restaurant when they want, it works in the Premier Inn as I have experienced on many occasions with my job. The staff in the restaurant done their best and it were not to blame.

"OK, but not as clean as expected and "breakfast" very dissapointing"

Stayed 3rd and 4th September 2020. I am giving a 3 star rating (could have been lower) as the staff were excellent and did what they could to make our stay great. Outside of the staff, the "breakfast" was make your own sachet coffee, porridge in a pot (like pot noodles), Alpen bar, orange in a carton and a bun of sorts - delivered in a paper bag - uninspiring. The first room had cigarette butts and ash on the windowsill. We asked to be moved and this was managed without question, which was a plus. However the second room had a dust and cobweb laden fan in the bathroom and dirty shower tray - I could pick off the old dirty "glue" with my nails. The rooms are meant to be forensically COVID cleaned arn't they? Anyway, we didn't ask to move again as we wanted to see Chester. It was quite an odd experience when compared to the other hotels we were staying in on our mini UK tour. No breakfast room, lounge or bar we could frequent as far as we were aware - just lobby, hallways, stairs and room. I know we are in COVID times, but compared to the other hotels we visited, this appeared almost closed. Otherwise, a lovely building, decent location and great staff.

"Well be back soon"
Judy G, 09 Septembre 2020

We booked our stay away as we were due to be married last Friday and still wanted to celebrate that we would have been married. Upon booking I requested a bath and I was not disappointed. The room was beautiful and we both had one of the best nights sleep we've had in a long time. Arrival was done on my phone before hand and was quick and easy and I thought the hand sanitiser station and the social distancing markers throughout was a great idea. We had everything we needed in the room but could have filled in a slip for more items which you hand to reception. There was also a takeaway menu for the room to order drinks and food that we did not use but it seemed varied and good to us. You had to request items through their WhatsApp business platform but I don't think that is a bad thing at all as i would not expect a cleaner to touch a phone I had used to order room service in these current Covid conditions. I understand some have complained about the breakfast but we both have never got up early for breakfast so to have a bag dropped off at your door was great for us. I understand it could have been varied - maybe a different pastry or a portion of honey to make the porridge a bit different on one of our days but on the whole we could not fault it. The bar and restaurant were closed but we absolutely understood that decision and assumed this when we booked. (This is also reflected on the high street as some shops were also closed till the 9th). There are a few bars open around the town that you can walk and wait for a seat but we had booked meals in restaurants before we checked in so we came prepared. To anyone who is thinking of booking a stay here, I would recommend it I think the price we had for three nights was reasonable and all the staff are a credit to best western. We will be returning soon before we are married August next year!

"nice enough but will not be returning"
manterfield1, 08 Septembre 2020

Beautiful hotel full of fabulous history. breakfast poor, very basic I think a hot breakfast sandwich and fresh coffee could have been offered and delivered to your door or a bag with more luxury items to make up for the lack of buffet hot breakfast, I know Covid has meant disruption of normal services, but i think this is a cop out now. I paid more than i would for a lovely hotel and breakfast, so not to receive a decent breakfast made it feel a waste of money. No phone in room and had to whatsapp for towels loo roll etc a disappointing experience that i am sure would have been better before or post covid. However, in my opinion, more could be done to ensure guests still feel like they are getting a great service, breakfast and value for money. would not return also was told our wedding anniversary would be acknowledged by a token gesture but none recieved

"Good Hotel"
flowerbasket, 03 Septembre 2020

The Queens at Chester is across the road from the railway station. Also across the road is a pretty decent pub that serves really good quality meals at reasonable prices. They also do breakfasts which start at 10am. The hotel itself is clean and tidy. Bathroom was spotless with a good supply of toiletries. The beds comfortable and tea and coffee in plentiful supply. We booked breakfast but on check in we discovered it wasn't a sit down breakfast but a grab and go which basically is porridge and a cereal bar which is not what we wanted so they refunded the cost of the breakfast. The only minus point about the hotel is we had to wait quite a time for someone to attend to us at reception on check out. There was no bell to summon anyone. After shouting a couple of times, someone did arrive. There is a city link bus that you can get outside the station which run pretty often. it takes you right into the town centre. The service ends at around 5pm. I would stay at this hotel again.

"1st wedding anniversary"
kathy36s, 02 Septembre 2020

We booked here as our 1st anniversary holiday to Vienna was cancelled. We travelled by train, so great location. Room was good, directions to the room not clear enough though. Sink in room was difficult to use, wash face and fill the kettle up. Breakfast delivered in bag outside room, fabulous and lovely items provided. Will definitely stay again

"Very disappointing not 4 star"
l9482, 31 Août 2020

Stayed here as was moved from sure hotel due to not being open currently. Staff friendly Nice hallway / foyer thats it Horrid bedroom very musty, dated, small, dark, lots faulty facilities or shower being boiling hot no way to change to cooler tempeeture - no where near 4 star at all or even 3 star. Extremely disappointing. Location is 10 min walk to centre. Not worth money paid even though I believe reduced. Overheard 4 complaints due to faulty facilities etc. One person issued refund. NCP car par 8 pounds per 24 hours compared to 15 per 24 hours at hotel. People were informed of this still paid 15 anyway? Car parks are next to each other. Shame as chester and chester zoo are lovely and worth visits

"Very disappointing"
Simon P, 30 Août 2020

We stayed for a family party excellent location for exploring Chester. The room itself was very dated with wallpaper coming away from the walls. The cleanliness of the room was shocking and we had to inform the helpdesk as we found that the duvet had infact got a blood splatter on. A TV that didn't work was a very disappointing visit.

"Good location, average rooms"
CraigBunx, 30 Août 2020

Stayed here for my anniversary in a king room. It's in a great spot for exploring Chester but we didn't like the room at all. The king sized bed is just two mattresses stuck together so you fall down the middle... We did end up booking on a 3 for 2 offer so value was OK. I wouldn't pay full price for this place though. Oh and don't pay extra for breakfast until their COVID policy changes. As it's basically a paper bag with a pot of instant porridge and a banana left on your door step.

"Dissapointing!"
mark_30w25d56, 24 Août 2020

The hotel itself is very nice in display and decoration and conveniently located close to the train station. There is some quirky decor in the rooms, corridors and reception area which are nice. However, there are many improvements needed the room had stains on the chairs, curtains and bedding, my wife also left covered in bites from bed bugs. At one point walking through the lobby we were greeted by a man screaming in a ladys face that she had got him sent to prison and behaving very threateningly not a nice experience but the manager seemed to be handling the situation well. Finally we had paid for a full cooked breakfast and received only a bag outside our door containing a croissant, banana and porridge pot. We were not informed of this at the time of check in, nor was it mentioned in the Covid precautions note left in our room. We mentioned this to the hotel and were not offered any form of refund or compensation. All in all,a pretty disappointing experience.

"Convenient hotel"
BrendaV384, 21 Août 2020

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights. The main reason for visiting Chester was to visit the zoo. This hotel was very convent for the train station (the entrance is literally opposite the station) and the bus stop to the zoo. The hotel was very clean. Because of COVID restrictions we knew the restaurants and bars would not be open. The hotel is only a 15 minute walk from the town centre so we enjoyed eating and drinking out. We booked a twin room and stayed on the Chinese kings floor. There were 2 beds but the gap between them was very small so we rearranged the furniture to allow for more space. I do think that a twin room should have space between the beds. Our room was very clean and we were told when we checked in that there would be no housekeeping because of the COVID restrictions but if we needed anything we were given a mobile number. However we found a station where we could collect clean towels and anything else that we may need so we didn't need to use this service. The staff were very welcoming and reassuring. The decor of the hotel is very quirky and I would be interested in staying again once the bars and restaurants were open.

"Absolutely Amazing"
nicoleE3000EQ, 20 Août 2020

Fantastic location, close city centre, close to river cruises. A short walk to city centre, great for royal enthusiasts, walking around the hotel and courtyard was fun, caters for wedding functions and you are sure to take some great photos here.

"Comfortable Kings rooms"
chattypops, 09 Août 2020

The King's suites are much nicer than the older part of the hotel. We were relocated after complaining that the executive room we had booked smelled of smoking ! Should have detectors.... Happy to say that we were extremely comfortable after moving. Disappointed that there was no bar available when we returned from our meal out and no breakfast provided in the restaurant. Simply, this is not good enough ! Hospitality means you should be looking after your guests and not cutting services, even during the pandemic. There really is no excuse ! Restaurants and bars are open and a large hotel chain like Best Western should be providing these services with the correct systems in place.

"Average "
Darcylilac, 07 Août 2020

Stayed for one night, found the room to be quite small and stuffy. Walls quite thin, was woken at midnight by the couple in the next room arguing. Staff were very friendly but probably wouldn't return.

"Late check in "
TheClash1977, 06 Août 2020

We arrived just before 3pm only to be told our room wasn't ready. Many others were checking in before us? Finally got room just before 5pm with no apology. Reception team really poor re communication.

"Had a great stay"
cooknaris, 05 Août 2020

Stayed for 1 night with my partner and young daughter. First time we've stayed anywhere since the pandemic started so we were a little nervous, but we quickly realised had nothing to be nervous about. We parked out front when we arrived, and the lady at reception told us about the car park to the side of the hotel (through the arch) which is usually £15 for 24 hours but £10 if you are staying at the hotel, so I paid £10 and moved my car to there once I had bought my bags in ect. We stayed in room 229, or 'Queen Mary I'. The room was huge and had a new Samsung smart TV on the wall, a small sitting area with a table, a double bed and a sofa/fold out bed, which was great for our young daughter. The bathroom was also very modern and nice, and we could tell it had all been cleaned well. Very nice room in all, only thing we were unsure about is the huge painting of Queen Mary I on the wall right next to the bed (see photo), it was a little scary! We booked our stay before the pandemic started via a Groupon voucher which included a drinks voucher for me and my partner on arrival, and breakfast in the morning. However, due to the pandemic, the bar and resturant were both closed, but the lady on the desk told me to let them know what drinks I would like and they would bring them upto the room for me, which they did! The breakfast was also dropped upto the room in the morning, which consisted of a croisant with jam and butter, an orange, a cerial bar, an instant porridge pot and a carten of orange juice each. Not quite the breakfast I thought I was paying for when I booked, but I do understand the situation. The lady who checked us out said she was new, but was very clued up and friendly, as was the lady who checked us in. All in all, we had a great stay and a great nights sleep!

"Do not visit it is a waste of money!!"
570jeanetteg, 02 Août 2020

Charge the same for a cooked breakfast but received a brown paper bag with a croissant and porridge to eat in your room. No bar service. No air conditioning. Very dated hotel. Recommend Hotel Indigo in Chester far superior.

"Nice hotel grounds finishing touches need work"
1DreamVisitor, 24 Juillet 2020

I stayed for 3 nights in room 228. Firstly I will say I am a fair reviewer and base all my reviews on facts without being overwhelmed by personal experiences. We booked the Hallmark inn across the road, when we arrived the door greeted us with 'sorry we are closed go over to the Queen if you have made a booking'. This put us in initial concern as we didn't know what would happen from there. At the reception they made me aware that the Queen was taking the Hallmarks bookings but could not find my booking with the other hotel, as no facilities were open due to covid-19 the children were stood about in the lobby getting frustrated, a real shame the garden was not open to get fresh air; that did not make any sense as it is outside, so is a well ventilated area. The receptionist told me I would have to wait further as a room was not ready, which was not acceptable to me as we arrived after usual check in time, considering they were prepared to take the hotels bookings things should have been ready. However on a call to the housekeeper she was informed there was another room available! I was dubious about her attempt to make us wait for a room after hearing that! That said I would say the service is not as friendly as the hallmark across the road where we have stayed before and they treated us with the upmost respect, additionally we were given no info how to stay safe inside the hotel or assurance of their cleaning standards. There was sanitiser everywhere though. The room itself was presentable clean and big. There were no heirs & graces though & the bathroom was basic, but the shower floor was thick with dirt from peoples feet. We were not offered room service & there was no telephone available in the room, I have come to find out other guests were offered r.service, for our own sense of safety we used our own towels and pillowcases during our stay, and would anywhere during this time. All in all It was an average experience. Our stay was ok, mostly because I didn't bother to make any issue & spent most of my time out & about. The hotel itself has a nice traditional character, the rooms are spacious & when the facilities are functioning has a nice outdoor space and a lovely breakfast room which would have pushed the experience up a little.

"Great place to stay, at a great price!"
Owlhollyx, 23 Juillet 2020

Gorgeous place to stay, great decor, great service, cleanliness of our room was great, great price. Located right next to the train station, lots of pubs and places to eat near by. Would definitely stay here again

"please aviod and book elsewhere"
Hasbro H, 23 Juillet 2020

when we arrived the new book in system through my phones camera didn't work, we were hit by a carpark charge we didn't know about. The light in the corridor outside our room didnt work we had to use a torch from our phone in order to find our room. On entrance to our room, it smelt badly of damp, we were placed right next to a fire exit where it seemed everyone on the floor used to go out for a smoke. the uht milk was out of date. We lasted an hour and a half then left. Still trying to fight and get a refund.

" Brilliant , definitely stay again"
SAWithamFamily, 22 Juillet 2020

Staying until Saturday. Everything so far is great. Surroundings, venue, facilities, staff, cleanliness all great. Comfortable and charming and a real find. Nice to have a hotel with charm for a change

"Excellent customer service"

Our stay was enjoyable. I would highly recommend anyone to stay there. The staff were lovely and very professional considering these troublesome times. Excellent customer service and a great position in Chester

"Magic of Chester"
Amber560, 12 Avril 2020

Hotel is in a perfect location to visit Chester, we have stayed there numerous times. Love the character of the building, staff and restaurant serves delicious food. Easily accessed a wide variety of shops. Full of history and one can have a lazy boat ride down the river. Something for everyone.

"Very nice but, definitely haunted"
ryanbM6983UT, 03 Avril 2020

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here a few weeks ago we had a good evening as we were sent out of the pub after the partial lockdown, we came back to the room which was lovely, however there is no doubt this hotel is haunted we were in the back room on the 2nd floor I swapped sides of the bed with my girlfriend as she said that Side of the bed was too cold. I awoke fully and was shivering I've been out in winter to put the bins out in my underwear and I have never been this cold, added to that we could hear shouting and a girl laughing in the room behind us. We left the room in the morning to see there was in fact no room behind us. I myself am very skeptical so I didn't bother with this. Only now I have sat down to watch an episode of most haunted and wondered if this hotel was haunted. Turns out it is. Lovely place though you can't knock it.
