    the hotel was really well placed and when we opened our window.. superior room with mountain view it was perfectly framed the sun was out and the snow was glistening. The hotel was clean and the reception was good.. out door pool not open and we didnt use the spa as wa were only there for 1 night.. I noticed ramps for wheel chairs ..thumbs up

    « Bad service and not great location »

    We stayed at this hotel for 5 days for a ski trip just last week and even if the hotel is nice, the service and mainly the reception is awful! Took 30 mins to check in (the guy couldn't even find my room) and other 30 mins to check out as the bill didn't make any sense. Plus we had dinner as a big group there at the hotel one night and it was bad. We agreed with the manager they wouldn't let us pay for it and instead they cheekily make some people pay at check out instead of just removing it in the first place without not even hesitating. It's not right and pretty unprofessional. They even charged us 35 euros one night just to call a taxi (so add the price of the ride on top of that) and you need a taxi to go everywhere given the location of this hotel. Keep that in mind! I heard that other people that had dinner at the hotel another night were happy with the food but strongly suggest not to go with big groups. The spa is probably the best thing this hotel has. From the facilities to the staff. For the same price you can definitely find something better.

    We decided late in the game to go to Chamonix for the weekend. Most everything was booked but Excelsior had rooms. Staff was nice, rooms are SMALL, bathroom amenities are practically non-existent. There's a ski rental in garage but they gave my husband defective boots (wouldn't click into skis). Spa is a NO GO! The therapist who did my massage & facial DID NOT know what she was doing!!! If you book here, just remember, it IS a Best Western

    « Theft of property from room, terrible view, very poor staff service and even worse attitude. »

    On the evening of the third day of our stay my daughter realised that her bear was no long in her bed. We turned the room upside down but the bear was nowhere to be found. We noticed that the linen had been changed so went to reception and asked if someone had taken the bear with the linen. Initially they said they hadn't but when we returned in the morning and insisted they call the laundry the reception manager said they had found the bear and would be sent from the laundry the following day. We asked the following day and were told the laundry and bear had arrived at the hotel at 3am so there was none one to accept the delivery. It seemed odd the laundry would drive from Annecy (where we were told the laundry was) on a whim. After more promises for the following two days we were told the bear wouldn't be back until the Monday. This was after our departure so they took our home and email address and promised again that the bear would be sent out. It is now over a week since we left and have had no contact other than when I rang and talked to the general manager who told me they don't have the bear and don't know where it is. We now don't know if the bear was taken by staff so was never at the laundry or if they just never bothered to get it back. Whatever the truth is, my 13 year old daughter has lost a bear she has had for 11 years. And the last thing the general manager said to me when I rang was she didn't have the bear so what did I expect her to do. Terrible service and even worse attitude. Other than the above the hotel was OK. Wouldn't consider staying for a ski holiday without a car as no chance of getting the bus to Argentiere or Le Tour as they are full when they leave Chamonix, so forced to get the bus to Flegere which only has a cable car and massive queues, or in to Chamonix a get a bus to Les Houches or Brevent We had a car so not a problem. Only ate at the restaurant once and food was OK Bar meals seemed expensive, 88 euros for cheese fondue for 4 and only got bread to dip. We were in room 171 so had a view of a brick wall, someone else's window and a stainless steel chimney. We asked to move when we arrived and were told the hotel was full so we just kept the net curtain shut. When we arrived we asked about parking and were told we could park in the garage for 15 euros per night or in the street outside the hotel were there was very limited space. It was only two days before we left that we found the hotel car park at the rear. It's free to park here but was never mentioned. Possibly if we had any kind of a view we would have seen this earlier. Just as a final note I used Skiset who have a room in the hotel garage for ski hire. They gave me a quote when I arrived for 452 euros but when I returned them they insisted the price was 572. They would only accept the amount when I showed them the written quote. If I hadn't kept this I would have been over charged. We go on holiday 3 or 4 times a year and have had good and bad holidays over the years, I've never felt the need to put a review on trip advisor, never mind a bad one but the overall experience we had at this hotel was terrible. We have now been back 9 days. When we turned form holiday I contacted Best Western customer services. They guaranteed the hotel would contact me within 7 days and guess what!

    « Located slightly outside of Chamonix. But still a good hotel! »

    The hotel is located slightly outside of Chamonix in a very small village called Les Tines. When travelling to Chamonix it is really helpful to have a car as a method of transportation since Chamonix consist of several small ski-systems with car/skibus distance between them. Since we had a mini-van, I had no problem with the location of the hotel since it was an equal distance both ways to the nearest ski-system. But there was a ski-bus and train station closely besides. We stayed in two connecting two-bed-rooms on the 2nd floor. I was very pleased with the rooms. Although, I would have liked to have a few hangers by the door so you could have hanged your ski clothes there. The bed was comfortable. I found the pillows a bit too soft, but the rest of my family didn't mind. Enough space in the bathroom for toiletry bags. Large, soft towels. Shampoo, soap, sewing kit, wipes, etc. were supplied. The restaurant downstairs served breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was good and offered almost everything you can ask for. The dinner tasted good, however, there were quite few options to chose from and very expensive. A few nights we took the van to the neighbour village and ate there instead, equally yummy food and definitely a lot less expensive! The hotel had wifi, sometimes it didn't work very well. Other times we were able to stream live TV from the Ipad. Polite and helpful staff. There is a ski locker room down in the garage where you can put your skis, poles and boots.

    « Other guests walked into our room! »

    The hotel staff mistakenly gave access to our room to some other guests, who walked in to our room consequently. Luckily we were there, and got to know of this. Upon raising it to the staff at the front desk, they did apologise and sent as half a bottle of champagne as an apology gesture. I would have let this slip, until later in the night, upon our return to the hotel, we found ourselves locked out of our room. I understand that they probably killed access to our room from all cards (time to upgrade the IT systems I guess?), but the gentleman at the front desk was absolutely unsympathetic, and when I threw a fit that I'd had enough of their inefficiency with key management, he replied in a matter of fact way, asking us to use the deadbolt - instead of assuring us that nobody would walk in to our privacy and no further mishaps with keys would happen. It's a 4 star hotel - at least learn to manage your keys!

    I had a great time at this hotel. The staff is really nice and there is all the comfort. Good continental breakfast with fresh fruits for those who like and the spa after a day skiing is just perfect! Also the restaurant is really good.

    « Overpriced, terrible WiFi, rudest hotel owner ever met, totally disorganised »

    Stayed here over new year. Arrived v late went to room, WiFi not working on iPhone or hp laptop which I needed for work. Receptionist comes up, simply says WiFi is working fine because seemed to be working on his device (which for all I know was connected to a different WiFi network than guests use). I demonstrated clearly that both my devices it wasn't working and he simply said I was incorrect and WiFi was working fine. He was exceptionally rude so I told him he must be the owner since only the owner would be so rude to a guest. He confirmed he was the owner. He did, to be fair, offer to change my room next day. Sure enough I came to reception next morning and they were ready to change my room. Owner still thinks I am a moron because I hear him say in French that the WiFi in room [x] works better than my original room so his employees should put me there. I.e. he knew full well the night prior that WiFi do not work in my original room. In fact, the WiFi in my new room was also poor but better. My hp laptop still did not connect though. Later I heard another guest arguing with someone at reception about the WiFi in his room and the answer from the receptionist was the same ?must be your device, WiFi works great in the hotel?. It is a joke that in 2017, a hotel charges €300 in a first-world country and have crappy WiFi - AND deliberately lie to their customers when they know the WiFi doesn't work properly. The owner and best western should be ashamed. Another thing to note - note how reception just notes messages and requests down on random scraps of paper lying at hand - no system in place. Example - I left a sweater at the hotel. I called a few weeks later to say I had lost it. A message was taken, said I'd get a call back, I never got a call back. Called back another day, they said they'd check and email me. Never got an email. So I actually WENT THERE and after waiting a few minutes while someone actually went to look for it (before this, I actually don't know if anyone had looked for it in the 4-5 days since I actually called about the sweater) I left and was told they'd call me if they found it. They did call me a little later to say sorry they couldn't find it. Then, if you can believe it, a couple hours later, they called to say they found it!! So it took me 4-5 attempts over 4-5 days to get this silly jumper. I know for a FACT the hotel's initial reaction will be well, it's my sweater, I shouldn't have left it, it is not the hotels responsibility to have systems in place to track lost property. Well actually that very much IS the hotel's duty if they're going to charge €300+ a night. The whole place is just completely disorganized, like Fawlty Towers except the owner of this place doesn't appear to give two hoots if things go right or not. Just abysmal management from an owner who is probably too stuck in his ways of running the hotel for the last (x) years to put proper, basic hotel systems in place. It is a shame because almost everything else about the hotel was great: breakfast, rooms, cleanliness, all staff except the owner and the poor employees forced to lie to guests about the WiFi - they do a terrific job other than that!!!

    « Winter: Great venue for single skiiers and it seems, for groups »

    This review is ski-specific. I booked this hotel for February 1-3, 2018, at the last minute when I had the chance to stay over in France and ski. I had a 2 day free pass to ski in Chamonix. I selected this hotel because I got a deal, it had an attached rental ski shop, and a spa. The hotel far exceeded my expectations. The room had a view of the cliff opposite (no view to speak of), but as I was skiing or touristing during daylight hours, I did not care. The bed was very comfortable with excellent linens. Re food at the hotel: I had dinner two of the three nights I was there. I had low expectations (a Best Western, after all) and boy was I surprised. The food was beyond excellent. Each night there's a different a prix fixe menu, and then a larger a la carte menu. Everything I had was delicious; I ordered two selections from the prix fixe menu -- so you can't go wrong. The a la carte menu has vegetarian selections -- I didn't notice if there were vegetarian options on the a la carte menu. The breakfast buffet has a wide range of selections, all of which I found good to excellent. Pro-tip: the quality of the fresh fruit was very good. The ski shop is pretty modest; my boots were great but the skis less so. Chamonix has a robust bus system during the day; the hotel is about a 7 minute walk from La Tines bus stop, which got me everywhere I needed to go, namely, Les Praz/Flégère for the tram serving that ski domain, and Chamonix Central. I did use the spa: the steam room (hammam) the sauna, and a massage. You need to bring a bathing suit -- they are required in the hammam, the sauna, and the jacuzzi. The steam room is odd -- it is big, but only has a single bench on 3 walls. This may not be French odd, but it was odd to me. The sauna is much smaller with the usual banks of benches. I was able to book a massage at the last minute. I had an excellent deep tissue massage from Xaviere (I'm missing some accents, but I don't know where to put them). Very competent. If you are planning to visit at a busy time, you may wish to book in advance. I gather during the summer, there is also a heated swimming pool AND they serve lunch. There may be bike rentals as well, I don't know. Every single member of the staff I interacted with was both pleasant and professional. All spoke English, for which my rusty French was grateful. Re the "does the hotel have a business center" -- there's a Microsoft computer available for public use. The front desk staff was very helpful though when I gave them a flash drive device with about 5 pages of documents to print. It's not a "quaint" hotel -- too modern, but not soulless either. As far as accessibility: there's a ramp to the front desk, and an elevator thereafter. However (as far as US accessibility standards) the elevator is small, and I don't know if the ramp meets current ADA requirements, but the turning radius from one pitch of the ramp to the next looked small. I also don't know about the bathrooms.

    Great deal on Vogage prive half board basis , deluxe room with balcony . Room spotless . Staff delightful , the hotel was very quiet the first few days which wasn't a problem for us , but i think the breakfast was neglected a bit because there wasn't many guests. Food in the evening was amazing although got a bit samey after a while . Drinks very expensive so be warned . Half way thru stay the hotel was overtaken by men on mobile phones constantly , meetings were held whilst we were having dinner in the restaurant which wasn't great . Tin peaches whilst the conference dinned on fresh fruit designer delights the next day at breakfast . Spa area very small and would suggest they did a booking system as very crowed later in the week . Free heated ski lockers and ski hire shop on site Location was perfect , free buses all day and trains , literally 5 min walk to stop , take 02 or 11 for place du mont to access most things , or change of chamonix centre to go futher afield . Visit Aguille de midi AMAZING and glace de mer aslo AMAZING and not to be missed . Overall a fab time in Chamonix and would defiantly return to this hotel if we could get the same deal

    « Ski holiday »

    Got a great deal on this through Anna voyage prive. Hotel is lovely, large room with double aspect and balcony, which didn't get any sun. Great bathroom, lousy storage! No where to hide away your luggage, and on a skiing trip you need place to put all the bulky suits! Bring swimwear as it's needed for the jacuzzi and steam room. Breakfast was good, but half way through our week the fresh fruit changed to tinned peaches! Everything else on offer was great, best croissants ever! Dinner was ok, nothing spectacular! We were on half board basis. Position of the hotel wasn't good. You had to walk about 200 meters to catch a bus going either way. Our first few days most of the Resort was closed due to bad weather and avalanche risk, so only LES Houches was open and therefore really crowded. Unfortunately the hotel had a couple of seminars going on so the lounge area and children's room was unavailable to guests for a couple of days, not good for a 4 star place! Staff were all friendly and helpful, most spoke very good English. Think the hotel could do with a courtesy bus as it's so far away from ski lifts and town centre, especially as it claims to be a 4 star.

    Quiet situation, just what we wanted. Lovely room, paid a little more for an upgrade. Had balcony and lovely view. Food delightful. We had half board and the menu of the day was always to our liking. Staff efficient and friendly. We stayed a week and had good service throughout. Modern ski storage. Not too far to walk to the ski bus. Our favourite, of the Chamonix resorts is Le Tour. Room serviced well every day.

    « Cozy lovable place »

    I love this hotel. Exactly what I hoped from a 4 star - great services, not too fancy, but a really nice and clean feeling. I stayed there with my twin boys and their care and attention to children is great! Really accommodating. There's a playroom for them, a spa for me, and a bus stop and train station nearby! Food is tasty - I only wish there were a few more vegetable options for breakfast but no biggie. I love this place and have booked another stay.

    « Comfortable, friendly, great location »

    Loved this hotel, it's out of the main centre so it's quiet with lovely views of the mountain. The bus stop is only two minutes walk to take you into chamonix centre or up to the ski runs, it takes 10 minutes to get into Chamonix centre and the buses run every half an hour until 11pm, they're free during he day. The room was really comfortable and the spa facilities (jacuzzi and sauna) were lovely after a day of skiing (although they get very busy at peak times). The staff were wonderful and helped us dig our car out after a large snowfall. I would highly recommend this hotel and we'll definitely stay here again when we next visit Chamonix.

    « Beautiful Views »

    We booked the standard double at first, then decided to upgrade to the balcony with view of Mt. Blanc. Honestly, if you book here, make sure you get a room like that! It really is what made this 3-stars to 4-stars. The view was perfect and I loved waking up every morning with coffee in hand on the balcony. The room was comfortable and clean. Nice shower and huge TV (though we didnt watch any). I found the accommodations quite pleasant. I loved that it was out of the center of town and in a quiet part of the valley, with beautiful mountains on either side. We had a car so it was easy to get around (10 minutes to center of town). The bar area was lovely too with friendly staff, and the hot tub was AMAZING, though it is meant for only 1-2 people, and you take turns every 15 minutes with other guests (there weren't any so we were lucky). I loved the breakfast, too, where there was an assortment of pastries, hot food, a great coffee machine and plenty of fruit. Even a bar to make a smoothie or vegetable drink. It's super convenient if you dont mind paying 15 euros. As far as the negatives, we noticed the full bed is actually two twin beds pushed together. it isn't too noticeable but there is a crevice in the center. Furthermore, the housekeeping never cleaned or tidied our room when we were out and about, not sure why. Lastly, when we got the bill at the end, we noticed that they added an extra 20 euros. I had to do the math and realized they were dishonest about how much the upgrade cost. On the phone and at our welcoming, they told us it was an extra 40 euros per night. Then at the end, the bill said an extra 50 euros a night. The lady at the desk was not friendly or helpful about this discrepancy. She just acted like we were in the wrong, when clearly the hotel lied to us and got an extra 20 euros as a result. I didn't appreciate that.

    « Room we got first was not the room we booked »

    Room was booked by "Secret Escapes" one week before. Maybe only a coincidence, but again we got the more expensive "Deluxe room with direct view to Mont Blanc" booked by a "Last-Minute-site" only after complaining about the cheaper and unsufficient room which was allocated to us originally by the coincidence - despite the hotel was nearly empty. Even the "deluxe" room is comparable small. SPA area very small and overcrowed soon, standard continental breakfast. We enjoyed the quite location quite far away from center - but for others it is maybe to far away.

    « Very comfortable and pleasant stay »

    Very comfortable room, quiet hotel and friendly staff. The restaurant and the SPA are a bit overpriced, but in general things are overpriced in Chamonix. The breakfast buffet has a lot of options and good food. Our room was facing the dinning room, which make us have the curtains close most of the time that we were in the room. It was not ideal and can easily been solved with a reflected film on the outside of the windows. As we went for the UTMB event, although the hotel is not central, in the end was quite nice to be away from all the confusion and parking restrictions in Chamonix. It was a shame that the weather wasn't good enough to try the swimming pool. Lovely place.

    « Comfortable and quiet. »

    We were very happy that this hotel is couple of miles out of town, as we liked the peace and quiet. We had a ground floor room at the back which was very comfortable, and we could park our car at the rear of the hotel, which was secure. We found all the reception staff very helpful, The first evening we ate in the dining room, which was very pleasant , with a lovely view of the mountains. The service fairly good, though we thought the cost was very pricey. I would suggest that you plan where you are going to eat in the evening when you are out during the day! We struggled to find somewhere on the second evening, but eventually found a roadside place a mile or so away, which looked nothing from the outside, but had great food at reasonable prices and was full of locals!! so worth exploring. Yes, breakfast was a bit hit and miss: cold plates for hot food, and not obvious where things were.... staff were not particularly observant of people's needs. On the plus side, we had great opportunities for walking and driving to areas where we could go up in the chair lifts to see the views. Fabulous location.

    « Not bad »

    We enjoyed our stay overall, but the hotel was probably the least good part of it. It is a bit out of the centre, a twenty minute bus or train ride (free with a ticket from reception) which while fairly convenient and nice to travel through the beautiful countryside, it did mean that it was inconvenient to eat out. The hotel restaurant was average, not bad food, but slow and frustrating service - I think we may have been unlucky as I think there were a few new starters during our stay. The rooms were fine, one with a nice view from the balcony, OK size, clean, nice bed. On the plus side it is in the beautiful Alps, with walks in different directions up the mountainsides on the north and south.

    We stayed here for one night, although the hotel has a Chamonix address, it is about 5 km outside of town. Therefore a car is needed to go for dinner . The spa area is nice but very small and very crowded (and we stayed here off season). The service staff was incompetent and not helpful at all ( did not know the taxi rate to Chamonix and gave us the incomplete bus information... ). Breakfast was chaotic, things were distributed everywhere (plates hidden behind the hot food, no small spoons, no large coffee cups). Check out was tedious. We are not planning on coming back.

    « Nice and quiet stay at Hotel Excelsior »

    I was running UTMB and opted to stay a bit further from town. Hotel Excelsior was lovely and quiet, and it was perfect for what I was looking for. The room was nice, clean, and spacious with a beautiful view of Mont Blanc. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You are about 3 miles from the center of Chamonix. The buses and trains run regularly and are free with a pass the hotel gives you. Though note that if you are out to dinner in Chamonix later in the evening the buses and trains may not still be running! You could also walk to / from Flegere pretty easily, as it was only a mile. The restaurant in the hotel was very nice, and I'd recommend it for dinner (particularly the daily fixed price menu special). My only complaint was that breakfast was fine but I thought expensive for what it was. But all in all was a great option for a relaxing stay.

    I HAD A LOVELY STAY WITH MY FAMILY ( i will go back ) Large quiet room . beautiful location view on the mont blanc and great amneties such spa & swimming pool even children play room . the breakfast had a great selection and eating in front of the mountain was a great start for the day the staff was very knowledgeable on the area , professional and friendly

    The hotel was perfect except it quite far from town, need to drive 10 min. out. The room has qualified of bestwestern. The parking could be free if there is an available lot in front the hotel, only 15 lots.

    « Very Nice Stop »

    My husband and I stopped here on our way down to Italy and really enjoyed it. We found the staff friendly (although there was a little bit of chaos when we checked in initially) and the room very comfortable with lots of thoughtful touches. I enjoyed the pool although it was rather overrun with kids on the day we visited. We had a lovely dinner of raclette sitting outside on their terrace, washed down with some very nice glasses of red from their list. The view is absolutely stunning-we just kept saying wow over and over again! Try and get one of the rooms with a view if you can. Something to bear in mind is that it is quite a way out of town so if you're looking for nightlife it might not be for you. For a comfortable overnight stop though you really can't go far wrong.

    « Disappointing Stay »

    On arrival through no fault of the hotel its self we were a little shocked as to just how far outside Chamonix it actually was, but may be should have checked beforehand. Things from attempting to check in didn't get any better, first our room key did not work so it was a trip back to reception, then once in the room we found the carpet was soaking wet having just been cleaned and the smell was unpleasant, fair enough the room was changed after some reorganisation on a what seemed a very disorganised reception. Having paid for breakfast at check in the following morning we were asked to pay again before eating this needed to be sorted but was. On return from a day out we tried the pool and spa which we found lacking poor hot tub a steam room that produced little or no steam, but the pool was pleasant. Dinner in the restaurant however was one catastrophe to an other no table despite having been booked the previous evening then been asked to sit either in the middle of the room or outside when no one else was venturing outside as the evening was chilly then waiting over 30 minutes for our first course. No bar staff to orders drinks from and even though reception staff could see you waiting they seemed oblivious. If you should come to this hotel opt for a room that is not over the terrace as if you like to have your window as there is no air con open the noise from other guests drinking is loud. One thing this hotel does however offer is travel passes for public transport into town but you need to ask they weren't offered if we had not heard other guests asking for them we would not have known.

    Stayed one night before we flew home. We had a car, so the slightly out of town location was no problem for us. Our balcony view was stunning and time in the pool was much needed and so pretty. Sometimes hard to get pool service but we survived. Breakfast was NOT included for us so we went into town for a cheaper price. For the price - it was great.

    Booked through Best Western site as a Diamond Member, specifically looking big for exceptional service but blatantly dissapointed. Treated as cattle. Room average, location inconvenient, price premium. Even if you are loyal to Best Western, there are better options in this location.

    « Great views -out of town hotel »

    The location is out of town. We had a car so that wasn't a problem for us, but if you come by train, note that although there is a train station nearby, the hotel is a bit out of town. Nice pool and spa facilities although when the hotel is full, one jacuzzi doesnt seem to serve all people. Beautiful location and views on mountains and good service.

    I thought this hotel would be closer than it was to central Chamonix. Good free parking, nice room with balcony. Lovely views of Mont Blanc from pool area. Quiet location. Unfortunately had a full-time screaming child in adjacent room so sleep quality was inadequate. Had wanted to use sauna and lovely pool but their hours were far too restrictive for my use during a one night stay. If those are important to you, confirm you will be able to access them during your planned itinerary. One of those annoying hotels where you need to put your keycard in a slot by the door to turn on lights, etc. Even more annoying was free Wifi which not only required a passcode, but also required that the connection be reinitiated every 60 minutes for each device. Good A/C relative to other hotels I have stayed at in France. Photographed passport - unnecessary and the only hotel of four I stayed at that required that. Breakfast at 15 euros in advance, 17 in arrears. Nice buffet breakfast with good breads, cheeses, pastries, fruits, and some hot items, of which I could only have the scrambled eggs. The juicer was very popular with a touring group that dined at the same early hour (7) as myself.

    When staying in Chamonix, avoid the crowds and the high prices and stay here. The views of Mont Blanc from the outdoor pool are specatacular. We got a price with breakfast included, and the breakfast was also great withfantastic fluffy scrambled eggs, coffee machine, juicer, bacon, and delicious breads. My only regret is it is a 20min easy bus (and most people neglect to pay for the bus) to get back and forth to the town center in Chamonix. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

    « Stunning scenery, super friendly »

    From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt looked after. Nothing was a problem and everything was comfortable. We were snowboarding Chamonix and the hotel was out of town but that's its charm. Links to the slopes was by bus or train. If you take the train it is jaw dropping scenery as you snake through the mountains. The hotel has a spa, which was great for us after a day of boarding. And they have a board room with heated lockers.... Breakfast was three courses and you could fill your boots with all the food groups. Fruit and yogurt for starter's, bacon eggs and sausages for main and pastries for pudding. And they have a great coffee machine so you can make your own cappuccino variables.. Breakfast for winners. Hotel bar was busy and a great opportunity to talk to guests and staff about Chamonix. The local mt blanc beer was fab. Our room was a great space, little on the small side but plenty of cupboard space. TV channels were a little limited but we didn't spend too much time as the spa was opposite and the jacuzzi overlooked the Cham valley. Hotel has a comfortable contemporary feel. It's warm without being stuffy. Staff were lovely and relaxed.

    The hotel itself is very far away from the village.. transport cost a fortune..and thr taxi to take us to the bus station never arrived .. which made us miss our flight and cost me thousands... the staff were nice and helpful butbon the night in question were not helpful at all...

    So me and some friends stayed here for 5 nights as we were over in Chamonix for a wedding. Firstly, it is extreamly far from the village and approx €40 in a taxi. So if youre planning on staying close to Chamonix this is not the hotel for you. Secondly, we found 2 members of staff extreamly rude. When asking about wifi for the third time they started to converse in French ( I speak fluent French) calling us incompatant and lazy. Lastly we asked the hotel to book us a taxi to the bus station so we could make our flight from Geneva airport. To our horror the receptionist on shift at the time forgot to call the taxi. (Asked them 6 hours in advance to book). After the man behind the desk again started to insult us in French we left. We had to walk to chamonix bus station ( 1 hour and 20 minutes) with all of our luggage and subsequently missed our bus and flight!! This mistake by the hotel cost us €583 in total for new flights and busses. I feel extreamly let down as we paid good money to stay in this hotel and did nothing of sorts to be treated the way we were.

    This hotel was an excellent choice for us. We booked through expedia and got a very good rate. The hotel itself was excellent value for money. From the start we received a really welcoming, warm and very friendly reception and unfortunately I can't remember her name but she was really good, that said, to be honest the staff were all really nice! The room was very spacious, with an amazing view of Mont Blanc, very light with 3 windows, lovely big queen bed, and very clean and comfortable, we also really appreciated having a small fridge in the room. We loved this hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.

    Old hotel that has been recently renovated, rooms are nice and the right size. The location is rather far from the main town and impossible to commute without your own car. Breakfast is good and the kitchen is manned by competent staff. Dinner ordered was very well done. Its the serving and the restaurant management staff which is a let down. Poor attitude and bad service seems to be the hallmark, reluctance to refill empty buffet dishes or get cutlery makes a bad impression. Parking is large and convenient. No bellboys to assist you seems to be acceptable to all and save us no one seemed to mind! Chamonix as a place is pretty but very touristy hence if that is what you are looking for its perfect. We unfortunately had very bad weather during our stay so had no view to perk up our mood.

    A bit after the downtown, so a car is a must. We arrived at midnight, but Hotel kept reservation and we checked in, within minutes. Beautiful old but renovated building with medium sized modern rooms, and quite clean ( German standards ).

    We stayed as a stop off from driving from Paris to northern Italy. Hotel is very nice, room comfortable, warm and clean. Definitely a 4 star in a lovely location. Just a shame the receptionist was very short and then the lady in the spa was very snotty. Decided to eat out elsewhere for dinner and breakfast. Leave early to pass through Mont Blanc tunnel as it gets very busy!

    Spent two nights in this comfortable and neat hotel. Room was clean and we had a lovely view of Mont Blanc. Easy access to the lovely quaint ski village of Chanomix with its Swiss style shops and piazza and the proximity to cableways and trams up the Alps. Staff was courteous and efficient in resolving a shortage of water in our room.

    We enjoyed our stay. The staff at the reception was very friendly and helpful. We had dinner and breakfast there, paying half-board which is good value for money. All in all, we'll would go back if in Chamonix. we like the view of Mont Blanc from the hotel terrace and the ambiance of the hotel. We did find the wardrobes in the room very tiny for a family of four but it was okay for us as we were staying just one night.

    « Perfect base for Skiing with a bit of luxury »

    Had a great 3 nights stay. Breakfast was decent, spa area was one of the best at this price level in Europe and staff was very friendly/helpful. However I'd think twice before staying here if you don't have a car to get around. In fact I'd think twice about skiing in Chamonix, unless you're into proper off piste skiing. It was a real doddle getting about with a car as there are plenty of free parking next to the lifts and cheap parking in town. We even spent a day in Courmayeur out of our 4 days MBU ski pass which is highly recommended. Do a bit of research and get a car if you want to get the most out of this beautiful town.

    Best western hotel nice location but local bus service not great and the taxi servi c very bad nearly inposible to get taxi even at train station or town centre. ski lifts not open till mid december was not great bar very expensive and food over priced at some would go again but not stay at same hotel due to poor travel would recomend staying in town centre if you go as is possible to get around without travel problems

    « Perfect for our activity break »

    My son and I stayed here in August 2016 for 3 nights.It was the perfect hotel for a 4 day activity break-far enough out of the hustle of Chamonix yet only a 10 minute bus ride into Chamonix and nearby Argentiere. Located right next to the forest which was great as we used the well marked walking and running routes to run every morning. Rooms were perfect for us with ample space,a coffee machine and great views of Mount Blanc. Swimming pool was a great bonus again with stunning views of Mount Blanc. Will return next year!

    Don't let the Best Western name fool you. This older hotel is newly remodeled and fantastic. Great restaurant, spa, rooms and service. Because it's 5 minutes outside downtown Chamonix, it's a great price. We planned to just stay one night and stuck around for 3. Definitely recommend this place!

    The Best Western Excelsior was an exceptional hotel and an exceptional value! Our room had a spectacular view of the Mont Blanc range, a comfortable patio, and plenty of room. We had a great experience in the spa and a wonderful dinner in the hotel's restaurant on our last evening--the restaurant specializes in local cuisine. Highly recommend a visit... both comfortable and authentic!

    Visited Chamonix 7th Sept 2016-17th Sept 2016 Staying at the Excelsior Hotel Chamonix. Having read other guests comments I was concerned but decided to be open minded, their comments were justified. Had booked a superior room with balcony, we were disappointed & even questioned the grade of room. Balcony came with added extras of previous guests toe nail clippings. Room did not appear to be hoovered at all during our 10 night stay. Quality toiletries & towels. Breakfast-road side cafe!!!. Tables very rarely cleared of used plates/cutlery etc. 2 Hot drinks machines only one working-self service, staff member just shrugged her shoulders. Had to request replenishment of hot food options at 9am despite breakfast being served until 10.30am Every piece of crockery came with multiple chips/cracks. "Fine dining french cuisine" for evening meal, set menu = 1 started/1 main/1 dessert - very restrictive.Yes they did accomodate & substitue with an alternative. Only 2 staff "working" at breakfast & dinner, understaffed to say the least especially when coach load of tourists arrived. Great views of Mont Blanc. Peaceful quiet location. Local bus into Chamonix centre runs every 30mins, free with Valley Card provided from hotel. Hotel info stays hotel transport available into Chamonix, has to be pre booked the previous day & only available on days a member of staff is available. Also hotel info states mineral water in room for arrival, none there, spoke to reception, never arrived. Loved Chamonix. Would not recommend or stay at this hotel again.

    The old Hotel Excelsior was very dated and in need of an update. I think it was renovated in 2015. A friend stayed there and reccomneded it to us. We had a lovely time there, the room was very clean, spacious and modern with great mountain views. It also has a spa. Would definitely stay there again.

    « An up-market travel lodge type experience. »

    Pros: Very clean and tidy room, fairly modern. Staff approachable and efficient. Cons: Poor breakfast selection - no cereals! Pricey for what there was I thought. At least 50% of the mugs at breakfast tables were all badly chipped around the rims. I was shocked that someone would actually put them out for people to use. No-one else seemed to take much notice, maybe it's just me! My room only had a single 2ft square velux window in the roof that would let the rain in if you left it open when you went out. It's like staying in a cellar!! The changing rooms for the pool closes about a couple of hours before the pool shuts - couldn't see the logic in that.

    « Terrible nights sleep and poor customer service ! »

    Arrived at the hotel late on 14th September after a long 10 hour drive hotel is very clean and modern room was spacious and comfortable, what I didn't realise was my room was above the delivery ramp which at 6:30 until 8:30 had numerous delivers with very loud trolleys , it didn't help the room dosent have air conditioning so I had to have the window open it was so loud it was like 100 shopping trolleys being pushed past my window totally ruined my mornings rest the whole purpose of this stay was a good nights sleep ready to drive to Tuscany this morning, on check out I made a complaint to which the member of staff shrugged her shoulders and said unfortunately that is the time the laundry is collected! No mention of any compensation or anything very annoyed they shouldn't be able to sell rooms in this area of the building or they should have their deliverys at a sensible hour

    This is a lovely hotel but a bit expensive, it's located about 2 miles outside the centre but a free bus takes you back and forth and are about every 20mins. Didn't eat much as breakfast was not included in our package. The rooms are great but would pay more for a better view next time.

    « Delux double with balcony? »

    We booked a delux double with balcony & Mont-Blanc view €189 for one night. We both fell totally in love with Chamonix & I could not recommend it more highly however, the hotel was a disappointment. The hotel has a second half which people had their towels & clothes hanging out of Windows. The reception desk was quite chaotic & what I would expect from a cheaper hotel. The room was pleasant but quite small & definitely not deluxe! The balcony was tiny. The restaurant was pleasant & food was of a good standard.

    We stopped here overnight on our way back from Switzerland. The welcome at front desk was warm and all facilities well explained. The room was a lovely surprise, spacious, spotlessly clean, really comfy beds and nice cotton bed linen, and the bathroom was large and modern with a powerful shower. We ate in the very busy restaurant and the food was delicious, the waiters friendly and attentive. The breakfast was good, lots of choice of quality food. We didn't get a chance to visit the spa or use the pool but really enjoyed our brief stay.

    « Comfortable spa retreat for a summer break »

    Having been to Chamonix ski-ing several times we decided on a summer weekend break. The hotel is a couple of miles out of town but the bus stop is at the end of the road as is the station for the local train so getting into the town is no problem, even without a car. Hotel is nicely furnished and some rooms have a nice view of the mountains across the pool area. The pool is heated and accessible from the spa which is very relaxed. There is not much around the hotel except a few houses but there are some lovely walks along the river up to Argentiere, down to La Praz or up to the mountains. Staff were friendly especially in the spa. Great for summer, I think there are better located hotels for ski-ing in the winter.

    « Don't be put-off by a few poor reviews »

    In between booking the Excelsior and arriving a few recent poor reviews appeared on Tripadvisor which obviously concerned us a little. However, when we looked at the content of the reviews the contributors tended to focus on pretty small issues which had obviously become blown-up in their minds. However, whilst no establishment is perfect and there will always be areas which can be improved on (e.g. breakfast, more later) it shouldn't overshadow the fact that this is a very good hotel - the decorative state of the common areas and rooms is excellent. The location is pretty good (about 5 mins drive up the valley from Chamonix centre, just outside La Praz) and the pool is lovely. We did have a bit of a disappointment with breakfast - it may have been a one-off and we weren't early but when we arrived there was no fresh fruit and and by the time some had been rustled-up (and eaten) there were only two sausages left from the cooked breakfast. - The staff seemed intent on getting it all cleared away before breakfast had officially finished; and we we weren't the only people who were still trying to eat. Quick tip on room choice (if offered): we may have been unlucky but we were in a second (top) floor 'Classic' room (#269) in the new block. - The only window was a Velux in the eaved roof, too high to operate without a pole, so no view of any description. There was no controllable air-conditioning and, as is often the case with top floor rooms, it became quite hot. The Velux is not a terribly efficient way of ventilating a room. I would ask for a room on another floor if I stayed again.

    We booked this hotel as a stopover on our route south to Italy. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel room (we booked a family room and ended up with the excelsior suite) with a balcony and direct view of Mont Blanc (although on arrival the top was shrouded in cloud). The pool and spa facilities were enjoyed by all and waking up with a view of a clear Mont Blanc was wonderful. You really couldn't get much better a view. The room was clean and tidy and all the expected facilities were available along with a decent coffee machine, excellent bathroom with both bath and large separate walk in shower. We would happily return again based on our stay.

    « Definitely NOT the best Best Western out there »

    This hotel claims to be a 4-star hotel. That could not be less true. Here is why: 1. The bathtub faucet was broken and the only way to keep the siphon open for the water to drain was to stick something in it (like a tube of the hotel's shampoo). We reported it to the reception desk before leaving (did not deem it necessary to report it earlier as check-in time is 4 pm and check-out is 11 am) and they did not seem surprised. 2. SPA. Yes, the hotel has a SPA, but its capacity is so limited that it is virtually impossible to use. We spent most of the afternoon walking back and forth between the sauna/jacuzzi/steam room, trying to find one that was not fully occupied. Even the break room, which was the largest of all, only fit 4 people, and yes - it was full most of the time. Did I mention there is only 1 shower in the SPA? To top it all, it was obvious that the staff did not want to be there, judging from the uninhibited eye rolling we got when leaving. 3. Priced at 250 EUR per night, our stay included a dinner in the hotel's restaurant. We were presented THE "half-board menu", which consisted of THE entrée, THE main and THE dessert. I say "the" because we had no choice - the hotel had already decided what food would best complement our 4-star-hotel-in-the-Alps experience. The entrée was based on snails and we had to really insist on our dislike for snails before the waiter agreed to check whether we could possibly order something that was not on THE half-board menu. Next, we were promptly informed that THE main (some kind of a beef dish) had run out for the night (it was 9:30 pm!), but they were going to replace it with "something else" - whatever was still available (it turned out to be chicken). Again, no options, no possibility to choose. According to THE menu, the dessert was supposed to be pineapple something, but we were surprised with chocolate cake, because "THE dessert had run out as well". At that point, and with the help of a bottle of wine, we no longer cared. Having been to Chamonix before, I know far better hotels one could stay at for a much better price and infinitely better experience. As for this one, it most definitely does not deserve 4 stars. I will not return.

    if you can dont stay at this hotell , its sucks frigde did not work, room phone did not work, curtain did not work, shower so high up you need to be 180cm + to shower, the waiter speak only French and argus with customers, was charged for a coffe at breakfest and the vaitres did not want to listen before i contacted resepetion. terrible place.

    We stayed here for three nights and really enjoyed our stay. The reception staff were friendly and helpfull. The room was very nice and clean with a very comfortable bed.There was a good size bathroom. There was a good pool area. Inside there was a sauna,steam room,relaxation area and a jacuzzi. We did not have breakfast as it was too expensive at €17. Overall,a great place to stay in.

    The hotel was fantastic, quiet and out the way of the centre of chamonix, perfect for couples/families. The bus stop to get you to the centre/slopes is only a couple of minutes walk from the door of the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Disapointed in Chamonix - Three Night Stay »

    Chanonix is a wonderful place to visit. The following refers only to our recent personal experience with the subject accomodation choice at that location. POOL - The hotel pool, (which is featured on the site) is indeed well placed. Great views are had from the pool area and from other places around the hotel. HOTEL LOCATION - Not "in the town". Public transport is close by, (train and bus services). However, these services do not run late into the evening.The hotel offers a shuttle free of charge to Chamonix, (about a 15 minute drive). However, we were told that a pick up in the evening (after 1930) was not provided. We had to take a taxi back to the evening on one evening. This cost 35 Euro one way. ACCOMODAION & RESERVATION - Despite our checking in early, the wrong room was provided at check in. Note: Pictures of the room that we reserved were the same on both the hotel official web site and the booking com web site. However, the room which we had reserved and paid a deposit for in advance was not provided us until the last night of our three night stay. We complained about this to the front desk personnel and were told that the room which we had reserved was already taken and that it was now not available for our use. Alternative rooms were shown to us of a different type and layout from the one we had reserved. The hotel mananger did not present themself to us during the length of the stay to appologise and we were not offered any compensation. We were most disapointed. HOTEL RESTARAUNT & FOOD SERVICE - Flys were found everywhere during breakfast on each day we utilised the restaraunt for breakfast which was most off putting. However, the food provided was of good quality and there was a fair selection. We did not eat dinner at the hotel restaraunt.Electing to eat in town instead. However, we did order room service for our children from the menu one evening, (chicken and french fries) and found this to be so badly prepared it was almost inedible. Note: A complaint was made to the restaraunt which did not result in a refund or an appology. CHECK OUT EXPERIENCE - Very slow and inefficient. HOTEL BAR - "David" poors a nice drink and does a good job at the bar!

    Booked by accident... A choice we would never had made given location 10km outside of Chamonix centre... But potentially a good option for families (massive kids room + pool) or for those who want quieter location. Pros: Pool Late check-out Free wifi Cons: Location (2 bus + 1 train option per hour to Chamonix) Coffee (only food we had; discouraged us from trying breakfast given both quality and price) Soundproofing between rooms / doors to corridors Overall - perfectly adequate but a bit less than we would expect from a 4 star hotel and not for us.

    We spent a very nice week for ski this February at this hotel.They have everything you need, including a spa, underground parking, ski room, sauna, jacuzzi...even a special room for kids. The internet was a little bit slow but enough for email or Google research.

    « Nice hotel on the outskirts of Chamonix »

    We stayed here for two nights. The staff is very friendly and do what they can to help you. We got a room with a great big balcony overlooking Mont Blance. Sunlight conditions were very promising. No ventilation system and it is paint peeling in the bathroom. Wifi did not work in our room, only in the bar / reception area. Breakfast costs 17 euros. Person pr. night, so we opted instead to buy breakfast somewhere else. It's free spa entrance for hotel guests with a sauna and jazucci. We were overchardge day we went and this was not very plesant. The hotel refunded money after approximately one week .

    « Room with a view to die for....spectacular »

    What a wonderful hotel. I cannot think of one single negative about this hotel.Yes, it is outside of Chamonix but you would know that already when you're researching hotels in the area, for us it is a positive. There are a couple of places to eat nearby, but we didnt try them as their menu wasn't to our taste, we did venture into Chamonix several times & there is plenty of choice for all budgets and tastes.There is a train station and bus stop nearby if you prefer public transport. The staff on the front desk, the bar staff, the restaurant staff as well as the spa staff are all very good at their jobs, and go above and beyond to make sure your stay at this hotel is relaxing and memorable. The whole hotel is modern and spacious and extremely clean. The reception staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and gave us tips on where to go and what to see. There is free parking and free wifi. Our mountain view bedroom was on the third floor over looking the pool, with a shared balcony. What a view!! There is a room safe, plenty of hanging space with dressing gowns and slippers. There is also a kettle, and a good quality coffee maker along with teabags and coffee and creamer. Plenty of power outlets, an alarm clock with docking station. The bed is so comfy, we slept in late a couple of times as we had such a deep sleep and the sheets are top quality too. The bathroom had a great hairdryer, toiletries and a shower cubicle. I have rarely seen such a clean bathroom, the housekeeping team here really know their jobs. We ate in the restaurant one evening, Ben looked after us very well. The food was exceptional. The heated pool is awesome, plenty of sun loungers, deck chairs and a sofa too. What else could you want, a spectacular view, the photos really dont do it justice a pool bar too. The whole experience from beginning to end exceeded our expectations.

    What a beautiful modern hotel. Exactly what we wanted. Great views of Mont Blanc, lovely quiet swimming pool. Rooms are spotless modern and spacious. Wifi was excellent and staff were friendly. We didn't eat at the hotel at all. There is plenty of parking front and rear and there is an underground car park, but we didn't use this. The spa looks lovely and not expensive. There is a bus that goes into Chamonix and was €1,50 each for the day. They run every 30 mins or so. It is a bit far to walk mainly because there is no pavement all the way down. You can walk a fair bit of it but it's easier to get the bus. The hotel is on the outskirts of Chamonix but that didn't put us off and was a bonus and it was quiet. We would stay here again if we return to Chamonix.

    « Spectacular views of Mont Blanc »

    We stopped over in Chamonix as an overnight stay before heading to Lake Garda. Chamonix was spectacular. The drive to MontBlanc was amazing. The Best Western was a little out of town so not convenient to walk into the town centre for restaurants etc. I have a mobility problem and having been in the car for quite some time, we had no choice but to eat in the hotel restaurant. In my opinion, there wasn't much choice and it was expensive, drinks etc. The hotel itself was very nice, very clean and very welcoming just for me it was a little out of the way. There is a pool and wellness centre. The view of Mont Blanc from the hotel was spectacular.

    About 4 KM away from Chamonix. Not the best hotels. Would prefer something closer to the city. The rooms are ok but in our case many things were not working. Would not recommend for a stay or to come back. There are better hotels in the heart of the city that would be nice.

    On arrival(11.45am) we were told check in was at 4pm so we agreed to go away and come back later, returned at 5pm and room still wasn't ready so had to wait a little longer in seating area but not too long. Our room was lovely and very clean, nice big flat screen TV but not one English Channel to watch which was soooo boring the evenings were unbearable to the point of only thing to do was TRY to sleep, bed was so comfortable but a Shame we couldn't use any of the lovely duvet as it was way too hot in the room and no air conditioning available, we also couldn't open the door as the outside smoking, drinking and eating area of the restaurant was outside our room(1st floor) and as non smokers the smell wafting in was horrendous so we had to sweat it out all night with no air in the room. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss we stayed for 3 nights and had breakfast each morning. The first morning we had to go chasing a waiter for mugs for tea /coffee and to order hot food, they don't readily ask you or give you any table service. The second morning was atrocious, there was one waitress there who obviously didn't want to be there, she was rushed off her feet from being by herself but that is no reason to be rude to customers, everything had completely run down to nearly empty, at one point a lady put 2 slices of some sort of fruit tart on her plate and the waitress snatched it off her and put one slice back, for 17€pp for breakfast and not much selection I think you should be able to have whatever and how much of whatever you like. The atmosphere was really bad that morning. Day 3 was better everything available, even mugs and an actual smile from the waitress who had helping hands that morning. Checking out was a massive queue and only one person in reception so a bit of a wait which was frustrating when you have to check out by 11am and flight not until the evening so wanted to cram some activities in before leaving. Overall it's a beautiful place with beautiful views but some improvement on service is needed. And also they drop the €50 city tax on you last minute, please include it when you pay for your rooms upfront.... Other than the hotel issues(which is in a good location) we had a fabulous time out hiking and taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers!!

    we stayed 2 nights with half broad.the view is fantastic from the restaurant.try the Mont Blanc coctail!!!staff are very friendly!nice and good evrything!i recommend for evryone!comfortable bed and room and bathroom.and not so far from the center!or a.du nidi!

    « Nice hotel with some slight issues »

    Took 4 nights booked 2 rooms, half pension, room was on first floor with a view over the dining room roof, but to the right, , a reasonable view of the mountains, rooms were very good, and soundproofed that is so important, so the main thing, 4 nights peaceful sleep, staff absolutely excellent apart from one problem, but firstly the waiter with the blonde/fair hair was absolutely outstanding , he could get a job anywhere with his attitude, he knew I was having a problem with the food, the half pension was a set meal, and i really struggled at times, but this isnt the hotels fault , i,m just a lover of british/american food, on the good side the chef is really talented because I was eating things outside my comfort zone as even the food I did not like was tasty and well presented, Pool was very good, and it didnt get much better than most of the day in the mountains, late afternoon lying in the sun by the pool, health suite was nice again a very nice lady looking after the sauna/jaccuzzi etc, free parking right outside, breakfast was ok , omelettes or fried eggs bacon or usual cold meats cheese, no toast or what I would call normal bread, issues!! when it was busy they were short staffed, after a bus load of far east customers had stayed in the morning the waitress offered me a cup of coffee in a dessert dish! as it wasnt her fault there was no cups, well my dear it certainly wasnt mine!, the rooms were so hot, it needs air conditioning , such comfy rooms but 80 to 85f in them, the background music was totally out of place at meal times, hard to describe but like Joni Mitchell , or 70s american college music, for an old punk rocker it was awful, but with great humour (mostly) the staff made it bearable , the television big widescreen t.v. and not one english language station available , this is unusual , to just cater for french/german/Italian guests and not english or american, it kept saying no signal, overall though I liked the hotel, its not to far from Chamonix, so I could nip over to Switzerland as easy as some of the french alps

    We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights while we toured the area. I really want to emphasize the friendliness of all the staff at the hotel from the people manning the reception desk to the staff in the dining room everyone was wonderful and super helpful. We had a room with the most gorgeous view. The bed was extremely comfortable and everything in the room was perfect. The spa was also enjoyable and an extra treat after returning from a days touring. We absolutely loved the fact that it was a little bit out of the main city and near to other areas where you can hike. We highly recommend this hotel and would absolutely love to come again.

    I booked my room on short notice for $80/night. Driving up their narrow gravelly short driveway, which looked residential, with some construction, I was concerned. However, upon rounding the last curve, I saw the hotel and was very happy. It's a older style building and from the outside looked very well kept. Inside was very nice and modernized. The receptionist was super sweet and very professional. She had a really positive energy. My room was modern, comfortable, and clean. Not small for a European hotel room but not large. My view was great. I did not have to adjust the thermostat in the room and I slept well. I ate dinner in the restaurant and it seemed that the menu was priced to push toward the prix fixe menu (or to speed a lot). As I mentioned, I booked this last minute with price a main concern...so I ordered the three course fixed menu for 29 euro (escargot and rabbit pictured) and found it excellent. The bread they brought one piece at a time but it also was excellent. All in all I would certainly recommend it- especially it the price I paid-although I suspect they will charge more in-season.

    We arrived here at about 5pm and so have not done much more than eat dinner, sleep, and eat breakfast. The room feels smart and recently refurbished, indeed the whole hotel does. There was a sort of paint/new carpet smell in the room, but it was not a particular problem to us. The restaurant was bright and airy, and the food was good. Staff are friendly.

    We stayed for just the one night but could quite happily have been comfortable for longer. (Other plans on our trip meant we couldn't ??) The hotel was lovely and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Bar was accessible and although not cheap, it was reasonable with great staff and selection of drinks. Breakfast offerings were fresh and plentiful. The actual location did not do the hotel justice...down a little side road with building works and the view from the room was not really desirable, however, a short walk (3 minutes) easily resolved this. Being down the little road did have advantages ,meaning that there was no noise, traffic etc. Outside pool did have better views than the room ?? I would certainly recommend and would love to stay again.

    Great hotel, used the pool and spa many years ago after climbing Mt Blanc. Went back with friends for a ski weekend. Good rooms decent shared areas and a breakfast that suited our needs and catered for any hangovers. service was efficient. Bus right outside for skiing areas. All in all a good place to stay without being OTT.

    Stayed here in January for one week. Had a fantastic time hotel staff are lovely and very helpful . They offer a complimentary chauffeur service and dropped us off various times throughout the week. There is also a free bus and train service too with stations for both within 200 yards of the hotel. The rooms decorated to a high standard, are lovely and cozy and very clean. The spa facilities are also excellent and we enjoyed a wonderful massage. Would highly recommend .

    Pleasantly surprised by the Excelsior Chamonix. Located conveniently between Argentiere (Des Grand Montets) and Les Praz (Flegere). The Hotel offer a complimentary lift to the slopes each morning. The ski rental shop in the basement of the Hotel was a bonus. They also have lockers for storing skiing equipment. The "Spa" is well set up and laid out. Perfect after a days skiing. The leg massage was first rate. Overall the Hotel was newly renovated, had friendly staff and was in a great location. With the nearby train or bus you can be in the centre of Chamonix in 8 minutes. Only drawbacks: Outdoor pool was closed & WiFi was patchy at times. But this had no impact on the quality of our holiday.

    This hotel was renovated within the last year; my room was clean and updated. I found the breakfast to be well-stocked and would agree with other reviewers that dinners at the restaurant were on the expensive side. This hotel is a bit farther from town, so be aware that you will need to find transportation to the lifts and to bars/restaurants. But if just looking for comfortable sleeping, this place fits the bill

    Hotel is modern, newly renovated; location is good, easy to reach to all Chamonix's ski areas. We had a car, did not use public transport (both bus and train stations, free of charge, are very close indeed; there is also shuttle service), within 10 minutes we could go any of the ski areas. Rooms are ok, comfortable and clean. Unfortunately we stayed on the ground floor and did not have any view; if possible try to get an upper floor room in the old part having a view of mountains, Mont Blanc. Spa is a bit small for a four star hotel. Breakfast was ok, open buffet, lots of choices, but a bit expensive. The staff were friendly and helpful. What I did not like is very soft pillows; asked for a hard/orthopedic pillow, unfortunately they did not have any. The Wi-Fi was very slow, and only 3 devices can be connected at most. Overall good value for money; if I go to Chamonix again, I would prefer to stay again.

Negatives are the limited breakfast and we had a room on the ground floor that got far too hot to sleep in and there was no secure way to let air into the room. Reasonable hotel but ask for a room first floor or above.

    Hi All, Just some feedback on the hotel Excelsior Best Western Chamonix. Paid a whole whack of money for a special weekend (1st since baby was born 15 months ago ahem!) but wanted to be close to home etc in case we needed to get back. Our room was in the new part- we didn't have a window! Only a Velux skylight which was completely covered in snow and didn't let in any light. The cleaning lady took my husband's towel so we had some faulty towers moments trying to get them back. They charge extra for the parking, the dog and then even after we paid the bill ? they came looking for Tax which they had forgotten to add! Apparently, the argumentative receptionist let me know, it's my duty to ask for it!! oh an No Wifi no phone network....Anyway, hands down bad service, rude staff, no value price v service and generally not at all a relaxing place to stay. TO BE AVOIDED!

    I organised a work ski trip weekend at the end of February for 8 rooms. Since the beginning of the booking process, everything has been difficult, being required to negotiate everything to the euro. We arrived and there were mistakes in room allocation even though I had provided a very clear table with names. 3 people had to cancel and the hotel agreed verbally to reimburse the breakfasts. The hotel itself has been refurbished and is OK but there is no charm whatsoever. It seems more to be a business hotel. The restaurant was OK but again quite inflexible with the menu. No choice of courses. The breakfast was extremely disappointing and definitely not worth €17. The service was extremely poor for a 4 star hotel. More towards 2 stars. There is a shuttle that can be used by guests but it finishes at 4pm only while ski finishes later and it would have been useful for the evening as well. Other 4 star hotels do provide the service. Check-out was horrendous. Many of the extras of my colleagues were added to my room. Breakfasts were not reimbursed. I checked out 48 hours ago and this is not settled yet. I requested to speak with the hotel director and I haven't received any response yet. I asked for copies of the receipts and I have not received them either. Overall, the hotel was extremely disappointing and the service unprofessional. I forgot to mention the outrageous gin and tonic for €15!! To avoid. There is clearly no direction or charm and this shows.

    Great Rooms & Staff. Stayed in a family room which was great for two adults & two children. Rooms are modern & beds are really comfortable. Staff were very pleasant & helpful. Wifi in hotel does not work. Restaurant & Bar prices are very expensive. The restaurant is expensive & the food is not really what we were looking for after a day skiing.

    This was the second trip I'd taken to the Excelsior to ski with members of my family. In Jan the trip was great, but this time it was outstanding! Caught the minibus from Geneva airport directly to the hotel---was disconcerted to find that its location is a 10 min drive -direction Argentiere, in the hamlet of Les Tines. BUT think on----2 mins walk from the hotel is a free train link that will take you up and down the valley to ski lifts and to the centre of Chamonix. Beware last train back to Les Tines is at 20.00! Bus stop outside---free---10 mins into Chamonix plus other ski areas. Ask at reception for a free transport pass!! Also, every morning you can reserve a place on the hotel bus to wherever you want to ski--free. But you'll have to make your own way back--not really a problem. The hotel has been recently renovated to a very high standard. Spotlessly clean, with plenty of staff always on hand to assist you with everything you want. Many English-speaking staff, but try a little French it is truly appreciated. The spa is free--sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi--great at the end of a day's skiing. Swimming pool is outdoor--and not open until April--brrrr! Eating in the restaurant is priced well-in comparison to restaurants in Chamonix itself--very good traditional French cuisine. Breakfasts are, however, expensive--you need to eat a lot to get value for money. Skiing--they do the lot. There's a ski shop in the basement--well-priced and friendly. Reception will arrange your ski pass--picked up from the hotel itself. The scenery outside is amazing--as it should be. You can ask for a room with bath/shower or shower only. Room service is great. WiFi was a little hit and miss---but then again you're on holiday!! friendly bar with big TV and games. My grandson--5 years old--was treated like royalty and enjoyed playing in a well -equipped play room. As stated, I was there for the skiing, but I can imagine that a summer stay would be spectacular. So all in all--I wouldn't hesitate to go back there. A major plus was that the staff couldn't do enough night or day go make sure your stay was magnifique. Getting in and out of Chamonix is easy with planning. Also, it's not in the hurly burly of this wonderful resort---peace and quiet and great comfort after a hard day sur les pistes!!

    Renovated in 2015. Look like new. The rooms are comfortable, well equiped and spacious. Good toilettries are provided. Free WIFI everywhere. New and heated skii room (with lockers). The SPA area is great, but divided into small separate zones (rooms): one for jacuzzi, one for sauna and hammam, one for relax room with chairs and tea. So, it is a little bit annoying to put on and take of a bathrobe, because every time you need to get to a corridor and choose next door of a separate zone. Anyway, it was ok. Not a big deal. Breakfast is good. Freshly squeezed orange juice, coffe mashine, yougurts, pastries, meats and cheeses. The only issue is a location of hotel. There is nothing arround, Chamonix can be reached only by bus or car (4-5 km).

    « Great Property near Chamonix »

    This is a traditional French building which has been renovated in the last year. The location is good for all winter sports and of course walking as well. It is about 4 kilometres walk into Chamonix and this can be done from the hotel missing all the roads by using the footpaths in the woods. There are also a host of walks from the hotel. The staff were very friendly from the moment of check in until we left. Being lazy we spoke in English to them mainly and they were a joy to deal with. We will certainly return later this year either for walking or cycling and the other benefit being no charge for parking unless you use the covered garage. It is also close to the train station for the local trains going up and down the Chamonix valley.

    We stayed here for 3 nights over Christmas and overall it was just average. The rooms are clean and the staff are pleasant but restaurant is extremely overpriced and in my opinion a huge let down. We had breakfast once and for €17pp you would expect something decent. We struggled to get cutlery and half of the buffet was finished and not replaced so we ended up paying €24 for bacon, eggs and a coffee.

    The hotel looks like it was recently refurbished, the rooms are excellent and for the price they seem like a steal. The pool is particularly pleasant, the spa less so; the steam and sauna seem crowded and a few asian male guests were particularly loud, I'm glad I hadn't paid to have a treatment at the time. Reception and spa staff are relatively polite and helpful for French standards. Didn;t try the breakfast but looked charming. Not in the centre of Chamonix but shouldn;t be an issue if you have a car. I'd visit again

    This hotel has great facilities for an alpine hotel, including a heated outdoor pool and a spa, all refurbished. Rooms are modern and clean. Fantastic views on the Mont Blanc. Great spot for morning runs along the river and also close to le Paradis de Praz, a children playground in the woods. Negatives include poorly qualified staff providing poor advice and directions (at least some of them), limited service (you call the reception to bring missing items to the room and they request that you come down and pick it up by yourself), very expensive breakfast (17Euros) and restaurant, better skip it and enjoy your own breakfast on the balcony. Overall, though, if you skip meals, it's great value for money and I recommend staying there, especially if you have a car.

    This Hotel is in the tiny village of Les Tines, a 10 minute train ride to Chamonix only costs just over 3 Euros & the same if you go the other way to Argentiere. Be careful of return time from Chamonix, last train leaves before 8pm, just before 9pm from Argentiere. The hotel itself is recently refurbished to a very good standard. Nice outdoor swimming pool. The Spa, like the pool is small but adequate. Rooms are good, beds huge ! shower & bathroom also fine. Bar ok but, rather expensive, as is the restaurant.. The food though is very good, breakfast very nice with a wide selection.Overall staff were excellent. A very happy 15 nights were had, Definately go again & recommend you try it too ! AND THE VIEWS ARE BREATHTAKING !!!!!

    Staff was very nice and gracious. Room was very nicely decorated, very clean. We were able to all stay in one room (four of us). King size bed and a double sofa bed. Kids said the sofa bed was very comfortable. Would go back again

    We popped in here for lunch after a long hike and popped back out again 25 minutes later. During that time we asked two different people for a table, asked for a menu three time, got a glass of water only because I retrieved my water bottle from my rucksack and left hungry because there was no prospect of anyone serving us. I can't comment on the hotel or the quality of the food but the service was disgraceful. There were incidentally only three other couples and a family group in the restaurant. This hotel is recently refurbished but they also need a major overhaul of the staff.
