« One night stop on our way to the north island »

This hotel was awful, paper thin walls, parties feeling like they were in your living room. Beds were awful and lumpy. It was really hot in the rooms and you couldn't adjust the temp properly. Don't. Other with this place, there are way nicer places close by. I knew someone staying at Heron's Landing at the same time and it looked a lot better we would probably stay there instead next time.

    « Excellent Travel Experience »

Best Western Austrian Chalet in Campbell River. Amber and her staff make you feel right at home. With the amenities that are available, the ocean front views. and the staff make for very warm and welcomed stay

« Dated place in great location »

We came here lured by them having the "best ratings in town". It shouldn't have.... Even though it is a nice place in a great location and all the renovations/remodellings on the surface they have done are really done well, this is a very old building and it shows: Dated heating system and bathroom facilities, windows that do not block any sound or temperatures, old pipes and plumbing that make lots of noises and an overall dated feel. We were in a ground floor room facing the court yard and had very cold floors, could hear the pool pump/ventilator throughout the night as well as dripping inside the walls (or behind it, where there's the laundry room that makes lots of noise, too). The mattress was quite old and soggy. The breakfast was an adventure by itself. Small room with tons of machines that gave us quite a hard time in the morning. Things are spread across the room, nothing could be easily found and there was noone to assist. There are only a few tables and the room is way to small to comfortably sit, especially with a TV blasting at full volume and screaming kids... Nice looking terrace area (small), that might make this easier in summer months...

« Nice place to stay overnight, great breakfast »

Stayed there for one night with group of friends in one of loft units. The room can have 6 guests, but in my opinion four is maximum number of guests which can stay there comfortably. There were 5 of us, and it was a bit tight. Also there were only 3 sets of towels. Lady at front desk couldn't give us regular towels by some reason, but gave plenty of pool towels. I don't really care what kind of towel it is, as long as it is clean. Those were clean, so it all worked out. The breakfast in the morning was great and greatly improved my opinion about the hotel. They had everything - waffles, omelette, sausages, yoghurt, cereals, fruits, pastries etc. etc. I'll probably stay there again if I ever happen to be in Campbell River.

« Best Western Austrian Chalet »

Nice motel, lovely views of the ocean. We had a very comfortable room on the ground level. Everything was clean and comfy. The free breakfast was good and the staff were very friendly. Good overall value for the price! Would stay again.

    « Our anniversary getaway »

The room was great the bedroom was in the loft nice king size bed. The room was very clean and smelled so fresh, the wi-fi was slow but we did let them know in the office. we had a good time this was our 3 time staying.

« Best Western Austrian Chalet Campbell River, BC »

This hotel has a wonderful view of the ocean. There is a paved walking/biking path just across the Hi-way for an invigorating morning outing. There is a pool and exercise room which we didn't use because of lack of time. We had a very comfortable room with a loft bedroom and a mini kitchen. Everything was clean and pleasant looking. The breakfast was adequate and the staff was very friendly. Good value for the price! Would come again.

« Consider for short stay, esp. if you are a Member »

The reviews are true: this motel needs an outside makeover. BUT being a BW Member, I paid about half the price of the fancy hotel next door ($200+/night) for an ocean view (not always direct, as the building is U-shaped) with a loft. Microwave, fridge, clean bedding and bathroom. Nice balcony to sit outside and enjoy the view. Wifi works. There is a super walk along the water outside the hotel, plus a stone marker where the 50th parallel lies (so close by!). Traffic noise wasn't an issue. Staff was pleasant and helpful. The indoor pool is in a separate building which means you have to step outside (in the rain in our case) to get to it. To be strategic about the free breakfast room, which can only hold about 25 people, and manned by one staff person, you need to get there by 8 am or you will be waiting for a table to free up (in September). Waffle-maker!--highlight of breakfast. Too bad about the plastic cutlery and plates -- definitely a garbage-filler. To save money, consider this place for short stays in high season but 3 days or more and low season stays, go next door.

« Great stay for a few days »

We usually come to Campbell River at least once a year and have always stayed here. Older hotel but have had some upgrades to the rooms. The rooms are clean and the hotel is well situated. The pub that is adjacent to the property is great for pub food and drinks. Nice treat to get out and not have to drive. The hotel could use outside cosmetic upgrades but still is really clean and well kept grounds. Breakfast is fabulous with hot bacon and eggs as well as all other items. Hotel is right across from the ocean with a walkway that goes on for miles.

We got a second story suite over looking the ocean and highway. This is not a new property. It was likely re-branded as Best Western from a ma and pa show. The receptionist was pleasant, but the actual reception area is not all that inviting although there has been an attempt to upgrade it. We spent two nights here. Part of the reason that I booked here for two nights was the pool. Sadly, the pool was not in order so there went the fun that my daughter and I would have had in the evenings. The windows are old, 1970 early 80s. the rooms are cramped. The beds hard and not that comfortable. The noise from traffic had no problem passing through the 1970 or 80s technology. So traffic noise is very noticeable. There was no air con, so the room was quite hot. This did not meet the Best Western Brand you would have expected. Keep this in mind. I give this a 2 because I was misled by the Best Western Brand. You could hear the family above us as if the floors were made of cardboard. They upgraded the kitchette to modern standards. Its a tight fit, but cooking is possible in it.

    « Thanksgiving weekend getaway! »

We toured quadra island and were really ready to relax when we got to the hotel. The room was large with a king bed, desk, wifi, etc. It more than met our expectations. After our rest, we visited relatives for an early thanksgiving dinner and returned to the hotel about 10pm. The next morning we enjoyed a fabulous free breakfast offering that included eggs, bacon, potatoes, waffles, coffee, juice, etc. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

« An all right place to stay »

This I would say Motel more than a Hotel is all right for one nights stop over. The rooms are round a courtyard. The rooms are clean and there is a coffee machine with coffee and tea provided there is also a fridge. There is a laundry room for guests but the night we were there the washing machine was out of order. The whole place could do with a make over. The breakfast room is not large but the breakfast was good lots of choice.

    « Needs a facelift! »

The room itself was ok if a little dated but clean enough, however the 'free breakfast' was poor. Paper plates, plastic cutlery and the hot buffet was 'interesting'. the breakfast area is very small and could hardly cope in the October low season so can't imagine what its like in high season

    « Excellent Travel Experience »

With the friendly staff and the stunning location, you will not want to stay anywhere else!! The in house Breakfast is second to none. At home you could not make a better breakfast with a huge, with variety, hot breakfast

    « Tired »

Room itself was OK, but this hotel is quite tired and dated. Appalling breakfast served on paper plates and plastic cutlery, compounded by a room that is too small to cope with demand. Some rooms are on a third floor, and there are no lifts, so pack light!!. In my opinion you can probably find better in Campbell River.

« Nice view and room »

Room was clean and quiet and the bed is comfortable. There was a great view from the balcony. Morning fog horns were a little interesting but it's not the fault of the hotel. Nice ocean walk right outside the room. Staff is friendly and polite. Not much food within walking distance except Freddie's, which is okay.

    « What a pity »

The room and facilities in the room were very good, comfortable and relatively quiet. The ocean view from the balcony is stunning and really a bonus. The position of the hotel is on the Island highway about 4 kilometres outside the town centre so it is ideally situated. The biggest disappointment is the small breakfast room, there are not enough tables, the guests have to queue for a table unless they are lucky. The toaster of which there is only one is terribly slow and causes much frustration. The staff are good, but they too are let down by this.

    « Island trip »

Very nice hotel with excellent staff and great location. Hotel was recommended to us by friends- we were on a road trip with friends from The Netherlands and they thoroughly enjoyed as well. Would highly recommend to others

« Excellent hotel by the sea! »

I would have given 5 star rating, but for the cleanliness. Our family was here for 3 days, and we loved every moment of our stay. Pros: location, breakfast, activities like swimming pool, hot tub, ping pong, mini golf, etc, friendly staff. Cons: housekeeping is bad! we were out all of 2nd day, when we came back, only the washroom was cleaned and 2 out 3 beds were made. Rest of the room was as bad as we had left it. Overall I would still rate it 4 star for all the pros. My kids loved it! We even got to make a bonfire on the beach!!

    « Pleasant stay »

A comfortable hotel, if on the upper floors you will have to carry your bags up one or two sets of stairs as no lifts . Comfortable beds and clean linen, a room set too the back the hotel a little quieter as the road out front is constantly busy. A more than sufficient breakfast, small laundry, nice gym room, swimming pool and small crazy golf for children. A pleasant stop over for a few days , it is a little out of town so your own transport a plus. We did not try it but there is a restaurant next door . Lovely view from some rooms.

« Great Hotel in Campbell River »

Great little hotel about everything you need. The rooms were clean and well kept. Laundry was really easy to use and the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfast I've seen. Is it the most modern of hotels, no, but for the price it's hard to beat.

    « Great room but.... »

Great mini suite with balcony and seaside view, more comfortable than expected by the looks. A good nights sleep in comfy beds. The complimentary breakfast was simple but good - but the breakfast room couldn't accommodate the amount of people that showed up for breakfast.

    « Great hotel, crap Wi-Fi »

We stayed for two days at this nice hotel. It consists of a couple of seperate buildings with a patio in the middel. One of them is the reception building with the breakfast room. There is a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna present. Also a gym with work-out equipement. The rooms are spatious and the buillding we were in had rooms with two stories. Top floor had two kingsize beds and ground floor had a small seating area, fridge, microwave coffee machine and a desk with busininess chair. Bathroom was ok and there was also a small balcony you could sit on. All in all a comfy and cosy room big enough for 3-4 people. The breakfast was complementary but was good enough, foiur types of cereals, waffle maker, brown/white toast, oats, some sweet pastries, bagles, fruit yoghurt and assorted juices. A 2-3 day breakfast would do just fine. We had a very good stay, the rooms were clean (but could get some better dusting) an the Wi-Fi at our room was quite crappy.

    « It is okay »

We stayed there for one night and had a loft. In the upper bedroom it was a bit hot. Once the sofa bed is deployed there is not so much space. Breakfast is exceptional. They even have a waffle maker. However be early as breakfast closes really at 9:00 am. Good for a short stay

    « 2nd Visit a little disappointing »

Our family and I had stayed here before and had really enjoyed the friendly staff and wonderful breakfast and the location worked for us too, so needing a one night stop over we opted for this hotel again. We arrived mid afternoon after a hot morning of trail riding needing to shower and freshen up before setting about our evening plans- the room we had was on the ground floor, it seemed newly decorated and the bathroom and decor was nice and fresh, however there was no shower curtain so no one could shower, there was no A/C in the room and since it was hot the room was very hot and stuffy , we opened the window only to find there was no screen so no protection from bugs and flies. I didnt even check to make sure the room had A/C which I guess I should have, I just figured in 2016 this would be standard with all rooms and the lack of shower curtain is just inexcusable- The breakfast was however Very Very good and the hotel over all offers great value for families with pool, ggames and free breakfast

« Functional place to stay near to adventure »

Hotel is friendly and has a variety of amenities (eg. pool, gym, mini golf). Nice location facing sea (right across road, nothing blocking view). Rooms are a little old fashioned but comfortable with separate seating area. Bathroom good, shower works very well. Plenty of off street parking. Next door pub does not allow children so you have to travel to find off site dining.

    « Stifling hot room »

We were not aware that MOST of the rooms do not have air conditioning. Of course, the room we had did not. We couldn't check in as we were there too early, but that was okay. We had an event to attend and did not return until about 9 pm. With no air conditioning the room was unbearably hot! It is an older hotel/motel but was clean. We had sliding doors onto a lanai but would not leave our sliding door open while sleeping as it would not be a safe idea. When we complained about no air conditioning we were told there was an electric fan in the closet so I hooked that up on the counter. It helped me but not my husband who was on the far side of the bed. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but only stayed the one night. We also learned that all Best Western Hotels are individually owned and this one has certainly not been upgraded. Plus the Breakfast Room was certainly too small for the large number of rooms Also, the bathroom had no fan but did have a window with a see thru curtain. I noticed that anyone on the floor above us and to the right could actually see into our bathroom if the light was on,

    « stop over »

pleasantly pleased with this hotel on the tour having read previous reviews. A large comfortable split level room with almost a great view. downside balcony with empty beer can and cigarette butts!!! very large portion at the restaurant next door. Disappointing breakfast......very tiny eating area so made up a bacon sandwich and walked along the waterfront.

« Great as long as it's not a heat wave. »

Overall a clean and comfortable stay, but no a/c. I passed a few pleasant weekends here during the summer, staying in a loft/kitchen suite as well as a traditional room. The stay I the loft was more convenient because of the kitchen and extra space to spread out. The traditional room had a fridge but no microwave. I did like how the bedroom was a separate room from the sitting area - this allowed my colleague and I to relax privately and watch different shows on tv. We had hoped to use the laundry, but there is just 1 washer and 1 dryer which were occupied with a line of others waiting. We enjoyed the location, close to everything and right on the water. Sunsets were lovely.

    « lots of selection »

Some rooms have ac others do not. Get a room with ac if you are staying in the summer months and make sure it has a view of the ocean as it is an amazing view! Don't try to control the ac with the wall thermostat for hours and replace the batteries like we did, use the remote on the tv stand! Will be staying here again when we return to Campbell River. Their loft rooms are a nice change and pretty unique.

« Nice quiet hotel, beautiful view »

The rooms were lovely and very close to the pool. There is no air coditioning but the hotel did provide fans for our use. We enjoyed the hot tub and pool. The breakfast room is small but the food is really good as usual. One of the things we love about staying at a Best Western is the complimentary full breakfast. We would stay again

    « An enroute overnight »

A lovely overnight break in travel with an ocean view. The site was immaculate, staff very accommodating and welcoming. Although it was 'a full house' the breakfast was constantly refilled and the attendant very cheery. A very hot day 28C, which made the outdoor seating (for every room) most pleasant on a cool west coast evening. A very quiet location!!

    « A new adventure »

The hotel is located overlooking the river and is based on an Austrian chalet - the room was on 2 floors - with the bedroom being on the upper level with sloping roof. The only problem there is no a/c so was extremely hot. The view from the room was stunning. Breakfast could be a disaster if too many guests turn up at the same time.

    « Across from ocean »

Cheap hotel across from beach. Kitchenette was so barebones it shouldn't be advertised as kitchenette. There was a small fridge and a 2 burner cooktop. No real pots to cook in. Kids liked the pingpong and mini put. Would skip Campbell river if I was planning my trip again. It's okay but it's really only for fishing.

    « Conveniently located »

Next to the water. Nice beach walks. 5 mins from downtown and restaurants. Room was clean but a tad small. Breakfast is the usual but the lunch room is small for the morning rush. Get there early or you'll have to elbow your way in. Don't try to check in before 15h00 or they will turn you back. Good value for the price.

« Loved the room but.. »

Loved the room-beds were in a loft. The view from the deck was great, looking at the ocean. the building and grounds were great. pool and small putting green and lawn. But no A/C. loft was stuffy at night. Had table fans but they didn't help to cool the room

    « Ok hotel »

The hotel is ok, but somewhat outdated. The water in the swimmingpool could use a refresh as many children used it as bathroom. The complimentary breakfast is a bit simple as is the complete hotel. The staff tries to make the best of it, but thuis place needs investment.

    « An Enjoyable Stay »

The hotel is easy to find, and the location is great. In addition to the many wonderful things that Campbell River has to offer, this hotel has an indoor pool, fitness centre, mini-golf, and a bbq area. The room was spacious and comfortable - we chose the loft and it was perfect for 4 adults.

    « Livable if necessary »

The room was old, tired and stuffy. The thermostat on the wall served no function beyond decoration. It showed heat and cool but there was no vent or air conditioning - other than the glass door to the small balcony. There was no screen window so if you wanted fresh air you have to tolerate incoming mosquitoes. The carpet made me wonder about cleanliness but everything else seemed pretty clean. Hotel staff were friendly and nice. Free breakfast included eggs waffle and bacon. Better than donuts and coffee. I failed to see how this motel had any resemblance to an Austrian chalet as the name might suggest. Overall, I stayed a couple nights with no ill effect.

    « Interesting Stary »

This was our second stay at this property and it got off to an "interesting start". On check in I found that our reservation had an error, instead of the suite we reserved we had instead been given a regular room. However the hotel was quick to fix the issue and although there were no suites available we were given an additional room at no cost which actually worked out better. The breakfast was decent and made for a good start for the day. As we were there for a graduation ceremony we did not have time to check out the pool and other facilities, maybe next time.

    « Austrian Chalet »

By accident, when I booked our room at the Austrian Chalet, it was a loft. We loved it! The lower floor contained a sitting room and a bathroom, and the upper floor had the beds. The room layout worked well, and the hotel was very clean and quaint. The breakfast bar was also well done. Overall, a very fine place. They also have a putt-putt golf course in their courtyard, which is great for children.

    « Family trip »

Great room, good location disgusting swimming pool. My wife, myself and our three young kids traveled up to Campbell River for a quick weekend trip we loved the room and went for a walk along the Waterfront cross the street which has beautiful views and has been upgraded significantly since I lived in Campbell River 20 years ago. However as with any hotel my kids we're excited to go to the pool. We went and the water was so murky that in 1 meter of water I could not see my toes at the bottom of the pool, then we found two hand size hair balls floating in the water and immediately left the pool clearly this part of the hotel has not received the care that the rooms and the breakfast area has. Good points are a ping pong table outside in the courtyard and that there was a wonderful view from The Breakfast area.

« Nice Hotel with beautiful views »

Spent 1 night here recently, good value, clean and enjoyable. Overall good stay, although we thought the the pool and hot tub area, was a little tired and was showing its age. As well, the breakfast they served was from 6-9 am, we thought it would be nice to make that until 10 am, so those who liked to relax and take their time in the morning, (like us who were on vacation) could take advantage of this. Nice grounds and view of the water.

« Not so bad, not great »

Nice little kitchenette, bathroom was needing major updating. Bed was OK but no screens on the window or patio door and no air conditioning. Hard to keep cool on the hot days. It could be an amazing spot with the view that exists. Staff was courteous and helped with an additional fan. Breakfast provided was decent and the waffles had fun toppings. Last night I was there the cleaning crew neglected to clean my room and I stepped into a bag of rags in the bathroom. Random. Not a terrible place.

« Across the road from the Georgia Channel »

This was an old but well maintained motel - beautiful containers of flowers adorned the outside balconys. We were on the second level with no elevator. The room was well equipped and clean. The staff was friendly. There was an included breakfast bar that included waffles, eggs, and meat along with the cereals, breads, juice, coffee, etc. Parking was free. It was located just a couple of kilometers from the center of the tourist area, Discovery Dock, ferry dock, and harbour. There is no air conditioning, so it was a bit warm, but the rooms had sliding doors to the balcony that we left open and there was a portable fan.

    « RT2016 »

Really excellent service. Let us leave our car when we went off island for no additional charge. Room clean and solid. Really pleased with our experience. Miniput! Also have to say Campbell River is a much nicer town than I imagined. Loved the waterside walk.

« nice hotel, gorgeous view »

Very nice hotel, and the view of the strait from our room was spectacular. The staff went out of their way to make our stay great. We didn't play, but the mini-golf and ping-pong table are a great addition.

    « Great Service »

Enjoyed just one night there but it was excellent. The personal touch was evident everywhere and one felt they really cared about their guests. Good pool and weight room..not modern but good and breakfast included in the price which was also very reasonable. Room clean too. l Recommend highly

« Everything is so small »

Would I stay here again? I don't think so. We got a room with 2 double beds which gave no room to move around. There was barely enough room to put a suitcase down. The beds were comfortable, which is a very important thing. The bathroom is very small as well, no counter to put your essential bathroom products on. Be very aware that there is no air-conditioning. I did find a portable fan in the closet but that is not the same as cool air. We stayed in June and the weather was warm outside but not overly hot. I cannot imagine what the room would be like in the heat of the summer. The breakfast was included but there again you could not find a place to sit. Everything at this hotel is small. We eventually left and found a restaurant in town. We went to the vending machine to find pop and there was none. Apparently someone at the hotel thinks everyone should drink health drinks.

« A Great Family Place to Stay »

The hotel is extremely clean, wonderful large beds, sitting rooms, full breakfast (cook yourself options)There is a small putting game, table tennis, work out area and a pool. Restaurants are close bye

    « Family orientated hotel »

This was a bit outside Campbell River along with other hotels so we thought we had missed it at first. It is a bit older and could do with a refurbishment but the room was clean. We had a ground floor room (which was good as there didn't appear to be a lift) but it just fronted the fun golf / play area so no view. As it was a weekend there seemed to be a few children staying who had great fun playing outside our room with a dog. To be fair they all disappeared about 9.00pm. Lovely beach area opposite the hotel for a stroll in the evening. Basic but fine for the night.

« Older hotel needs upgrades »

This is an older hotel that needs many upgrades. The bathroom is very small with a tiny sink. You can hear noises from surrounding rooms. When the neighbor's shower was on, we had to turn up the TV volume. Even the room entry doors need replacing. Our room smelled old. It was better after airing it out for an hour. I could only give this hotel an average considering the aged rooms and the smell.

    « Comfortable Stay »

A very comfortable stay, good clean large rooms, king or queen beds, full breakfast. Lots of other amenities, pool, restaurant close , fun for a family stay. A relaxing stay to finish off a great 4 day trip on the west coast.

    « Island Trip »

Rooms were clean and tidy. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was included in the rate and was very adequate. A nice beach and walk area across the street from the hotel. We saw a cruise ship pass in front on it's way back from Alaska. Would definitely stay here again.

    « Great stay »

The Best Western Austrian Chalet is a wonderful place to stay. There is not an elevator for those that cannot climb steps. The Loft Rooms are beautiful- but again two levels- bed on the second level with bathroom on first. Bed was very comfortable, more than enough room for two adults- loved the balcony and view. Room has a microwave, mini refrigerator and coffee maker. If you can climb steps this is the place for you or you should request a first floor room. Staff went out of their way to answer questions, and always greeted you with a hello and smile. Free wifi also. We had an issue with one of the two TV's and the maintenance man was there in 10 minutes or less to fix the problem. Breakfast was nice and had a different selection each morning- always clean and kept after. Grounds were impeccable and loved the view! Very convenient to everything. Love this Island!

    « Excellent stay »

We had a wonderful stay in this property of best western, room was clean, bed was comfortable, breakfast was good, staff was very friendly. lots of parking, I shall stay again when ever i am in Campbell river and I will recommend to all my friends.

« Average hotel room and service »

We received a clean room with a small balcony, but I didn't like having cars driving past the back door of the circular parking all night long. It was nice to be close to the water and beach across the street. This hotel was OK for us, but certainly not the exceptional rating I see others have given it. I also found the balcony totally disregarded with respect to cleanliness.

    « Exceptional! »

Rooms are very large, well kept and clean. Bed was very comfortable. Staff were accommodating and went above and beyond. We stayed in room 319. We had a spectacular view of the ocean, tides and passing cruise lines. Breakfast was always hot and well stocked with lots of variety. Highly recommended!

    « family visit »

My parents got the lg suite above office, lots of cobwebs, spiders, dirty windows and patio furniture on balcony was not cleaned for them,3500.00 they paid for 2 weeks, for that price,it should have been spotless, other then that they enjoyed their visit

« Okay for big group or family »

The hotel is aging but it was a typical old hotel. I was in a loft room which was awkward, the stairs going up were not the best, especially if you need to bring your luggage up them. Wifi was terrible as it was cutting in and out. The breakfast in the morning was basic. The room they use for the breakfast was similar to the room i stayed in, very narrow and awkward. They do have typical new furnishings that you would see in the modern BW hotels. There is a putting green outside for guest use. There are a couple pubs close by, otherwise you will need a car to goto downtown or the harbour

« Stay on the First Floor »

The property was sorely missing an elevator. I stayed on the second floor and had to carry my heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs. Since I have back problems, this was an issue for me. Everything else was average.

« Older hotel, but clean and comfortable »

The hotel is slightly older than we expected, but the room was clean and comfortable. Nice to have ocean view. The hotel facilities included pool, pingpong, and mini golf, could be a bit noisy in high season. Complimentary breakfast was better than the usual free breakfast at other places.

    « Great for families »

We had to go to Campbell River last minute and this hotel was perfect for my family (6 of us). They have rooms that sleep six and they are big enough so you do not feel like you are on top of one another. They have a heated pool, hot tub, sauna, mini golf, ping pong, exercise room and a laundry room. There is lots to keep the kids entertained. The cook for the continental breakfast worked with us as our boys have allergies, they made sure that there was food for them in the morning. They tended to run out of towels often so maybe bring some towels if you are planning on being there for a while. All in all i would recommend this hotel to anyone with kids.

    « Poor Quality »

We found the quality of food very poor. The front desk was so,so and unaware of our calls to them even though they were 3 feet from the phone. I had to walk over to ask them to turn on the TV and also the phone on a second trip. We will not stay there again.

« Excellent look and location »

This hotel had a beautiful aesthetic, and the location right by the beach was great. The staff were very helpful as well! My only gripe was how hot the room was, despite the thermostat being off. Not sure what the issue was there.

    « happy »

the staff was cheerful and helpful I enjoyed my stay my room was quiet. the view of the ocean was a bonus and the weather was not raining The motel is easy to find on the main highway. I wish that I had more time to use the pool and hot tub

    « Nice place for a night »

We needed a relatively inexpensive place to stay for a night while driving up Vancouver island. This was a convenient and good place for what we needed. The split level chalet style room was cute. A full mini kitchen, nice balcony view of the ocean and clean room made for a great stay. And the included breakfast was very good, with a make your own waffle station!

    « Last minute stay »

We phoned last minute and got the last room which was luckily a pet friendly room. The room was outdated, but very clean and comfortable. There was no air conditioning though, so we had to leave the window open. We were a bit leery of that being a ground floor, but it was fine. The complimentary breakfast had a good selection of items including French toast. The garden area was well maintained and we thought it was really neat to see the putting area and ping pong table. All in all, a good stay.

« Great value, delicious breakfast »

The shoulder season rate for this property was very attractive. Room scrupulously clean, nice facilieis (pool and exercise room although did not use), and delicious breakfast (advertised as continental but much more than that).

    « Hotel is ok »

The hotel was very clean and staff was friendly. However, the rooms are outdated, the floors are squeaky and the walls fairly thin. Not a bad stay, but wouldn't be my first choice for another stay in Campbell River.

    « Whale watching trip »

We stayed for two nights while on a Whale Watching trip. The hotel was clean and comfortable but a little on the tired side, it could do with a make over from top to toe; poor decor in all areas need some attention. Having said that, it was very reasonable to stay and the breakfast was pretty good for a "freebie", some hot food as well as continental breakfasts. Have stayed in worse places for a lot more money. Would stay there again.

    « A little tired »

Older hotel in need of a facelift. Beds up in loft, bathroom down below makes it difficult in the middle of the night. Location is good. Silverfish in bathtub. Not enough seating for breakfast. Grounds are nice and well kept.

    « Great Stay »

We had a great time at the hotel - they have a putting green , ping pong table, pool, and they are literally just feet from the beach. The views are amazing , the service was right on. It's an older hotel , but the grounds and the rooms are lovely, It';s close to everything you want to do in CR.

    « Dans review »

Great place to stay and great service by front desk. Loved the mini golf and the breakfast was great! A nice place to stay in CR I would highly recommend to anyone with a family or for business. great vies and good value

    « Bad Luck »

Great value, a lot of noise: two soccer teams occupied the remaining rooms. No elevator, so one team just threw their bags down from level to level. Our family did not enjoy the swimming pool because the girls were rowdy and dangerous for our kids to be around. They also wore very inappropriate swimming suits, like thongs, for our 7 year old to see. Really gross.

« Older hotel but very clean »

We have stayed at this property 3 times now and have always loved the location. They have a good pub nearby with pretty good food. The hotel is doing upgrades and some of the rooms are really nice now. Good breakfast with everything you could want. Great off season prices. Will be back!

« Excellent location and value »

We stayed here during the Easter weekend and enjoyed the proximity to the beach and downtown, the easy access to the highway and other amenities and the pool/mini golf. The free continental breakfast and free wifi along with the great rate, really give this hotel an edge over similar establishments in the vicinity.

« Easter in Campbell River »

My daughter and grandson and I enjoyed a lovely Easter weekend at the Best Western Austrian Chalet. We enjoyed the breakfasts, the pool, the minigolf and our comfortable room and beds. Thank you Best Western-we will be back!!

« Will be back soon »

I just returned from a delightful stay at this hotel. Charlene at the front desk made me feel welcome and made sure I knew everything I needed to make my stay comfortable. The room had a wonderful ocean view and was very clean and updated. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Although I did not use the pool area, a quick peek into the building made me wish I had brought my bathing suit. I will be returning soon

« Excellent Value For Families »

The Value of this hotel is fabulous for families, the rooms are Clean, modern and with well appointed kitchens if you do not wish to eat out- Internet was fast and never dropped off- Staff are extremely friendly and welcoming- Pool, fitness room , min igolf to keep kids entertained- Breakfast is superb choice is endless and we were still asked if there was somethingmissing that we might want!!. Great Location across from beach Would recommend to anyone

« Great for Business and Pleasure »

The amazing natural view from the room of the Salish Sea (Georgia Straight) was both riveting and relaxing during both calm and stormy waters. Non-stop entertainment of birds floating by on Logs, seals popping up from hunting and I am sure lots of Salmon underwater! The business meeting rooms are ideal and the staff was extremely supportive setting up the event. Take advantage of the breakfast - it is a hearty meal to start your day of business or exploring!

    « Reasonably Priced »

Hotel is well situated on the outskirts of Campbell River. Five minutes to center of town or out of town. Room on second floor had a pleasant view of the sea and you could see the weather. Room was clean and the beds were comfortable; only the lighting in the bathroom was low. Breakfast was a typical Best Western one - modest, but adequate; everything from cereal to bacon and eggs. You could eat as much as you liked.

« No Pool Access and Crappy Room »

We got a small room around the back of the hotel that we could barely turn around in and had an odd smell. The sound-proofing was almost non-existant. The pool was closed when we arrived on the 10th even though they said it would be open on the 7th.

    « BW always good »

Best Westerns are always good........rarely have I had an unhappy experience at any BW. Always easy to find, modern and very well organized.......and often ideally located. Our experience with BW rewards program has also been especially beneficial.

    « "Very Satisfied" »

Nice room ; great price ; loved it ; Nice view we were on third floor. Friendly staff. A hotel with character. Everything worked as advertised. It would be even better, If we had gone during the summer months. Still a great place to stay when in Campbell River BC.

    « Mini vacation »

Hotel seemed old and dark although it was renovated some time ago. Had a tough time with the wifi as it was very sporadic and much of the time not there. When showering in morn water went freezing cold as if someone in next room turned on the hot water and mine went cold. This should not happen in a hotel or motel. Staff was very nice. Breakfast was just okay.

« Campbell River Stay with Pet »

This is a very convenient modern hotel with a great view of the water. Clean and spacious. Mini golf if you are bored. Thoughtful staff. Warm cookies in the evening, apples all day and a breakfast of more than donuts. We paid an additional $20 to have our yellow lab with us. This was no problem and we were given a ground floor room. Enjoyed the view as well.

« Older but Better place to stay in CR »

As i am in CR regularly for work, I'm always looking for a comfortable clean place to stay. This is our go to corporate choice now. Clean, quiet, great front desk, free breakfast, fast WiFi. Pool and gym available. Easy parking. typical TV choices Great off season rates.

« Two nights in June of 2015 along the ocean. »

Quiet rooms, which were reasonably priced. The breakfast was great. A bike path along the ocean is directly across the highway from the hotel. Lots of parking adjacent to the doors of the rooms, and the staff were very helpful with travel information.

« Nice hotel, several buildings. No elevator. »

Just a one night stay here. They have a indoor pool and hot tub. Also free mini golf 4 holes which kept the kids busy for a bit. This seems to be the place for kids hockey team so there was kids playing in the hallway outside of our room. This is on a weekend. I can hear noise from the room next door. It is not a traditional hotel layout since our room is a chalet style room with the beds upstairs in the loft. The property is not on a level lot so you have to drive around the 3 buildings in a big loop. The backside of the property is on a hill. Close to water so you get to see water view. There is no elevator in the building so you have to walk up stairs with your luggage. Before warn if you have difficulty with stairs. Free hot breakfast in the morning. I would come back again.

« no frills, great amenities »

I travel a lot for work and know what to expect from various hotels. I was not disappointed. Comfortable clean room, decent (smallish) gym, clean pool. Good breakfast. What more can you ask for? Oh, and a beautiful sea side location

    « Nice place! »

We stayed here as a stay-cation, we are Vancouver Island residents. As such, the location and price was exceptional, as was the quality. We found a great off-season rate on TripAdvisor and all these factors made our choice. We found the rooms nicely appointed and clean, the place is older but the rooms have been updated recently. Some very nice features like two comfortable Queen beds, interesting bathroom mirror lighting, great, sleek modern fridge and stove, new microwave, large, high-quality TV. Wifi was intermittent, and was different depending on where we were in the room. But we were there with a hockey team so usage may have been high with all the young people streaming. Now maybe I'm just being a jerk, like wanting to listen to podcasts in the bathroom while my wife streams netflix on the bed and my son watches cartoons. Call us 21st century bandwidth hogs! The free breakfast was very good, lots of choices and would accommodate special diets (bacon, sausage and eggs for carnivores, cereal, fruit, waffles, bagels and pastries for vegetarians). We are late risers, and we were eating 10 minutes before breakfast was over, but I did not get the hint that the staff were letting things run out. They were happy to continue to fill stuff for us to the bitter end! People with kids take note! We were so happy to find food that was kid-friendly that was also able to satisfy my gluten-free wife! A short walk or drive to many restaurants, a strip mall, and downtown Campbell River is a 5 min. drive. The pool and hot tub area was older and needing an updating, but an interesting hand-painted mural adorned the wall. Staff were exceptional! They were happy to accommodate extra requests. True West-Coast hospitality. Campbell River is a forgotten area of the Vancouver Island Tourism market, which is unfortunate. It is surrounded by great parks like Elk Falls and amazing beaches! The off-season rate was very attractive, location was across the highway from the ocean made for beautiful view. The layout is motel-style, with rooms opening to the outside, parking lot (no interior corridors). All told, I highly recommend this place!

    « Great Place!! »

We have stayed here numerous times. Not only is the location and the views amazing but the hotel itself is fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and always smiling. The rooms are comfortable , well decorated and very clean. The complimentary breakfast isn't just warm coffee and a stale muffin but they offer freshly scrambled eggs, sausage , waffles, fresh fruit just to name a few items. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who needs a place to stay for business or pleasure!

« Great place to stay »

Great value for your money with excellent facilities and restaurant on site. A great breakfast menu and free. Good views of ocean, clean rooms and wonderful beds. I found the staff to be exceptional and caring.

    « Pleasantly surprised. »

We stayed in a family unit over Christmas. Our unit appeared to have new flooring and was spotless. The front desk were friendly and helpful. The breakfast room has been expanded and has a wide range of breakfast foods. The coffee was excellent. The only thing that was not great was the internet.-Like last time it faded in and out all evening. Reasonable price. The improvements were noticed and appreciated.

« Unique, warm, pleasant and relaxed stay!!! »

Employees of the hotel are the utmost helpful and friendful, we felt like being in our best friend's accomodation. The registration room is highly warm. When we arrived, after a windy and snow ride, we get in the registration room and we felt like being in a extremely hospitable place with hot coffee and comfortable living room. The kids were extremely excited with the room which was furnished with warmed furniture like being in a small warm house, especially with the small wooden attic. Moreover there are all the things to prepare a warm dinner. Unique, pleasant and relaxed stay!!!

« Such good front desk staff »

Front desk staff phone the room to make sure all is satisfactory. If extending your stay, they will work with other reservations to accommodate. Having a tv in the loft as well as the main room was a bonus. Attentive breakfast room staff. Spider cob web season so didn't take advantage of the balcony as much as I could have. Easy access to the seawalk with a pedestrian crosswalk light. Thanks for the stay.

« Great weekend get away! »

have stayed here many times. Always a good experiece. The view of the ocean was lovely. Great exercise room and pool. DOG FRIENDLY! The breakfast is good but get up early or everything will be gone. ?Great weekend get away!

    « decent... priced right »

quick stopover for business... nice clean room, comfortable bed, modern TV with HD channels. Shear curtains in a ground floor room? very strange... the room lacked any privacy from the courtyard area... not to mention exterior lights shining in at night... I've stayed here multiple times including in other ground floor rooms and don't remember having this issue

« Great Value in a Character Ocean Property »

The savings was worth the 40 minute drive from Courtenay. Nice pool, adequate exercise room, and a few mini golf holes. Lot's of lights and enough space to properly unpack and spread out. Good food at Freddie's next door!

« Website photos are extremly misleading »

Room was grimy and smelly, sheets were stained, Ended up sleeping in our clothes and had to put towels on the couch before we sat down. The staff was ok they gave us new sheets for the bed to put on ourselves, but they were stained as well. It was the worst hotel experience I have had. After seeing the pictures on the website I was looking forward to a cozy ocean view loft suite we booked, if it wasn't so stormy I think we would have slept in the truck!!

    « Excellent Value »

We got more than we expected with our stay. Rooms were nice, clean and spacious. Good value! Friendly staff. Very central. We were impressed with the value especially. We would stay here again when travelling as it served our purpose.

    « Great Value »

This Hotel is in a great location, with beautiful views of the ocean.Right across the street is the Seawalk which runs for approx. 6 km's - great for an afternoon stroll, enjoying the scenery (magnificent coastal mountains in the distance). The hotel is a bit old but great value for what they charge. I would recommend this hotel.

« Decent for the price »

We stayed one night here and, for the price of $132 for a family room with breakfast it was good value, hence the rating. The room itself was a duplex with bedrooms upstairs. The road is pretty busy so can be noisy, and the room is a little tired, but it was very good value.

    « A-plus customer service »

The hotel itself isn't much to rave about. We needed one night here before going on to better accommodations. The water view room balcony offered a sliver of a water view -- enough to see some seals swimming around. What was outstanding: the customer service. I had to make a vital phone call in the morning and when I finally got transferred from the business center phone to a U.S. agent, the line kept breaking up so I could hear about 60% of what the other person was saying. Thanks to the patience and thoughtfulness of Charlene, I was able to make that call -- by her having the call transferred to my room. She saved the morning (and the day) for me. She's an asset for this hotel. Also, the check-in person the night before was funny and professional.

    « Perfect for families! »

Took the suit above the lobby (225 i believe) and it was absolutely perfect for our large gathering. Wish it had one more shower, but the heated pool made up for it! Staff was beyond helpful and friendly. Older lodge, but clean. Free mini golf, ping pong table and Continental breakfast. Hot Eggs, breads, yogurt, cereal, waffels and french toast! The traffic was REALLY loud though, so if you are a light sleeper, I recommend something towards the back. Wish I had remembered to take a picture! Definitly recommend checking out the Quinsam fisheries!!! * The Canadian Griswalds on Vacation

    « Excellent value »

Great location, lovely views over water, and close to all amenities.. Room was 2-level, very large, comfortable and clean - suitable for a family. Breakfast was good, but not outstanding. Very friendly and helpful staff.

« It was good for an overnight stay. »

Located on the highway when heading north into the town. The exterior is pretty tired and dated. Stayed for one night after a day of driving. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was on the small side and seemed over furnished for its size but it was comfortable and clean. The addition of a little balcony on the ground floor with seating did improve the space aspect. The bathroom was also small but had everything required. Minimal vanity space. Fridge, microwave and coffee in room. We slept well and that is the major test for us. Breakfast was absolutely fine, a small hot choice, cereals, bakery items, juices, toast coffee, fruit, waffles, yogurt etc. No need to leave hungry.

« Small, nice little hotel, »

Stayed there for 2 one night stays in late august. Nice little hotel, first time room was on ground floor and had a sitting area in the main entrance, bathroom was off that and bedroom was in the back. Glad it wasn't hot as there was no AC in the room. Breakfast was excellent. Second time was on second floor, more traditional room, again no AC in the room, but it wasn't hot so it didn't matter. Did not like the window from the hallway looking into the bathroom, frosted glass or not. That needs to be fixed.. Otherwise, room was fine.
