"Spacious room good location but lacked small touches"

The hotel is located about 15-20 mins away from the airport and cost around $18 in an Uber to get there. We arrived late due to our flight being delayed but found the key in a safety deposit box outside very easily. We had booked a one bedroom apartment so had a separate kitchen and living room from the bedroom. All of which were large in size. The balcony was a great plus and very large. Directly opposite a large supermarket if you choose to cook. Overall a good stay but lacking a few small touches such as the towel was stained on arrival, the fans were dirty and they could have provided small condiments such salt and pepper and enough dish washer pouches for each day to push it up to a five star visit.

I don't normally write a bad review, usually if things aren't great I choose to say nothing - but what happened here was pretty shabby. We checked in fairly late on Friday evening and came up to our room. We noticed a strange smell immediately but we were really tired so just opened room up thinking it just needed a good airing. Next morning we moved bedside drawers to make a bit of room. Big mistake! Under that was a huge patch of mould! Like huge! Still thinking nice things when we went down we told the girls on reception about it. Both of them said they'd get house-cleaning up to do a full clean. Yes, it would happen immediately. Absolutely not acceptable they said.. Well, that didn't happen, so we thought maybe no staff was on to do it, maybe tomorrow.... In the meantime we turned the air-conditioning on and were absolutely blasted with stale mouldy air! We turned it off and had a look and wished we hadn't. The whole back of the unit was thick with mould, and the directional flaps at the front were pretty mouldy as well.. We're still waiting to have the clean and today is Wednesday 27 June... We leave tomorrow, maybe they'll get it cleaned then..

On arrival our one bedroom apartment gave a good impression but faults soon became evident. The aircon in the lounge cooled the lounge well but did not reach the bedroom. The curtains needed major maintenance, the carpet needed cleaning, the chipped walls needed repainting and repairs were needed to the rangehood. The bed was comfortable, there was plenty of hanging space and linen and towels were clean and fresh. The kitchen provided an oven, stove top, microwave, dishwasher and plenty of cutlery, crockery and glassware. There was however virtually no cookware. Two tiny saucepans( big enough only to boil eggs) and a small buckled frypan was all that was provided. There was no microwave dish. The 'hot' water was lukewarm and the dishwashing liquid was watered down so cleaning up after our attempts to cook a meal required us to boil a kettle. When the temperature of the water was mentioned to staff the reply was that housekeeping would be told. It was never fixed. What could have been wonderful accommodation right next to the central shopping centre and close to the train station turned out to be a fizzer and gets only a generous 3 from me.

Overall this place was okay but could be better. It is in a good location, right next to a shopping center and a short walk to the esplanade area. The apartment had a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. We had a nice view of the mountains and there is a small pool on the roof. The staff at the desk were friendly and helpful. They let us leave a little later the last day and when we checked out they called us a taxi. One issue was that the apartment was a little worn down, carpet, curtains, walls and some of the furniture. A few updates to the rooms could improve this place. The other issue was that the WiFi was pretty bad. We had a problem getting a connection the whole time we were there.

Centrally located opposite the main shopping centre and walking distance from the railway station. Parking was confusing. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. But the light in the bathroom did not work, the sink in the bathroom took forever to drain, around the toilet needed a good clean, the bathroom floor was very grubby, one of the towels wasn't clean, and the curtains needed a wash! We arrived back from our Savannalander trip about 7 pm to find the hotel completely locked up. To retrieve our room key, a safety deposit box had to be opened using a code sent by text message. My phone had gone flat (there wasn't any phone signal during our little trip, so the phone had gone flat), so luckily another couple could open the box with their code. We all took our envelopes with our names on them, and put the the other envelopes back for the next people to check in. Extremely risky way of checking people in after hours.

Spent 1 night in this motel, it was very relaxing and comfortable. Rooms were clean. I would stay there again. Parking underneath and across the road from Cairns Central. I stayed on 7th floor overlooking the city. Room was self contained even had a coffee pod machine.

Great location. The hotel is located in front of a shopping centre. There are nice restaurants just a short stroll from the hotel. The apartment was very nice, with a nice view from the balcony. The apartment has the whole structure to make easier to stay in the place for a long time. You feel as you are at home. The staff is very friendly and very helpful.

Very average place to stay but the price was right.Would stay again .The room was comfortable and clean,good air conditioning.There is no one at the desk during the night and if you need to checkout befor 8 am do it the night before.Great little fridge and microwave.They have breakfast bags for $10.00 that have cereal,milk,granola bar,juice a fruit cup.Great for a fast getaway.The desk staff are very helpful answering questions about tours and local buses.Another great place to get information is the official tourists info both (marked with the big "i" on the esplanade).

I was reasonably comfortable but would not rate this as 4.5 stars. Hot water took forever to come through and the bathroom sink did not drain well. Using the shower results in water all over the floor. The only aircon is in the far end of the lounge room and did little to cool the bedroom. The furniture is dated and not that comfortable. If you want 4 to 5 star accommodation I suggest look elsewhere

We have to stay here for work, great location, but noisy air cons and no hot water - 3 of us on different floors, same experience. It is clean and the staff friendly, so disappointing that not up to standard.

We were in room 1110, 11th floor, one bedroom apartment, tastefully decorated with a very nice bedroom , king size bed, nice kitchen, more than adequate, a very nice balcony with excellent 180 degree views.. The managers were excellent , friendly and helpful. Main shopping mall across the road. Parking garage, free. The only downside was the Wi-Fi didn't work to well and it was hit and miss getting reception but they had two PCs in the main lobby free to use or using your own Ipad there, the Wi-Fi it worked fine. There are plenty of eating places in the vicinity. I would certainly stay there again.

We stayed for 6 nights. The apartment was lovely and light with beautiful views from the balcony. 2 minute walk to the main shopping centre was very convenient. All restaurants and shops are within an easy walking distance or very cheap in an uber. Lovely staff who are very happy to help with any and all questions.

Stayed in a 1 bed apartment. Plenty of space and good facilities. Bathroom a little dark. Room could have done with a good dusting, but generally was clean and tidy. Good location, flat walk to town and marina. Shopping centre opposite. High room had great views across town to the surrounding mountains.

We thought the hotel was good, easy check in, free car park and 7 min walk to markets and 10-15 to esplanade. However it is not 4.5 star as the internet was slow, water leaked into bathroom from shower, only one chair on balcony, rooms not serviced during our 3 night stay, room fairly small (but adequate). However my main issue was they had us in a studio room which had a interconnecting door. This door was paper thin and you could hear easily the day to day activities of the family in the next room, they were not noisy , and we weren't either, but I could see potential problems here, especially with front desk not manned at night. My other issue with this is as the hotel was not anywhere near full, why put people in rooms next to each other as I am sure I am not the first to say the issue with noise through the interconnecting doors.If you are a light sleeper you would not like to hear the garbage truck at 6 am, we did get street noise, but you soon get use to that.

The location is great. Just about a 10 minute walk from the Esplanade and about the same from the central pier where most tours leave from. Across from the hotel you will find a mall that has a pharmacy, coffee shops, grocery store etc. Do note that there is a bar about a block away which attracts some rift raft people, I avoided walking by at night as people were visibly intoxicated in its vicinity all times of day and night. The room was a good size and had a kitchenette but no stove which was a bit surprising. I slept comfortably in the bed. The shower leaked water all over the floor each time I took a shower. I was surprised that there wasn't daily cleaning. The room had a nice balcony which I enjoyed. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The apartment was of a very good size with a well equipped kitchen, bathroom with washing machine and tumble dryer, very comfortable bed and very spacious balcony. Very central to all the shops, the sea front and lot's of restaurants nearby. Plenty of car parking space in garage in the same building and easy accessable. We liked our stay very much for excursions to the Barrier Reef and Kuranda National Park.

Absolutely terrible stay. If I could, I would negate the charge with my credit card company to get a refund as I don't feel I slept well or comfortably, or received anything that I would have expected from a stay with a hotel. We stayed at hotels in other locations and even a couple AirBNB listings in the more remote areas, not to mention the hotel stays we have had over the course of our travels, and this would honestly be the absolute worst to date seeing as basic amenities like wifi or courteous and empathetic staff/policies when the wifi failed and left us stranded (or costing us money due to the wifi failing) and needing to head to the airport couldn't even be provided. The night of check-in, we arrived around 8:30p.m. I didn't realize that some hotel locations do not have staff around the clock as we do in the States - or what we had seen at other locations throughout our time in Australia. The awkward manner of checking in via a voice through a speaker was already unbearable, but then adding the fact that the speaker is absolutely terrible and cuts out every other word - so we and the staff had to repeat ourselves half a dozen times for each question/piece of information was just agony after a long day of flying. Not to mention, risking someone take the wrong envelope as well as not being available for the customer is absurd to me when spending so much money on a room, and service is expected. Additionally, upon arrival to our room (902), the shower was questionable, and there was a thick layer of dust/lint/film around the edges of the room and looked as though someone hadn't cleaned this room well in MONTHS. Further, upon arriving, we wanted a wake up call and some new towels as they were questionable too, but low and behold - no phone! We visited the desk the next morning before our boarding time (7:30), but of course, still no staff! We returned after our full-day expedition after what seemed to be close as again - no staff! 2 full nights, no phone, and no staff to help with any of our concerns including moving to a more cleanly room. The building's exterior gave the appearance of an abandoned building, the hallway outside of our room smelled of cat urine and the area was questionable as we witnessed questionable people near the hotel entrance and made us feel quite uncomfortable. The room is heavily outdated and bare to say the least. I was very disappointed from every facet with our first stay with a Best Western, especially spending the money we did on our stay and it being our wedding anniversary. I would not recommend anyone stay at this location unless everything was fully booked in the area - not to mention it is not even near any of the big or main attractions. Other locations offer complimentary meals or at the very least BBQ areas where to cook and eat meals, as well as some free amenities - none of which were offered here. Finally, come check-out - the internet was down as was the phone! Not only for us, but for the staff too! So we finally were able to have the staff provide us a phone, only to not use it when we most needed it! We had someone in the area who was going to take us to the airport that day, and we were just to call while packing so they could be there in about 20 minutes. NOW, we had no way of contacting them! We spoke with the front desk, who the older woman behind the desk seemed more concerned with the laundry than with actually helping resolve the inconvenience, so the younger woman offered to call us a taxi. That's helpful, however, now we had to pay $22 for a cab ride, INSTEAD of a free ride and for something that is a basic amenity that failed and is out of our control. I pled and argued that the cost should be covered by the hotel given the terrible room, experience, and now their faulty internet, and was practically ignored as they repeated the option of calling us a cab or figuring it out on our own. Anyone who travels or is in the hospitality business should know how expensive it is to use data or place calls while in another country, and having the indifferent or negligent attitude is not only rude or off-putting, but the complete opposite of what we expect when paying to stay in a hotel instead of with at an AirBNB listing!

Our flight was cancelled at the last minute so we opted to fly home the following day and the airline paid for our accommodation for the night. This Best Western was very central and across from a shopping centre which was very handy to fill in our afternoon. We had a one bedroom apartment which was quite clean if a little tired. Good views from spacious balcony. A couple of negatives there weren't enough bath towels and only two chairs on the balcony.

Overall the cleanliness was great, the views were spectacular however i could hear the person in the room beside me sniffing and eating with cutlery noises etc. So no real privacy sound wise. My tv was broken but a call to reception brought me a new tv. I went to use the pool and spa on the top floor and the spa was cold - i was advised it was broken and that they had no intention of getting it fixed anytime soon. I decided against having a swim in the pool because the pool and lounge chairs were all under video surveillance by the hotel and also every plane leaving and arriving at the airport was low-flying directly above the hotel. I felt it would have been much nicer for my privacy not being filmed in my bathing costume!

We had a really light, clean, enough modern room at the higher floor as we asked! Really good value for money. Its a bit far from the Esplanade (like 12 min walk) - but for younger people it makes no problem. I enjoyed staying there.

I have previously been to this hotel about just over a year ago and I can't say I had a bad experience. From the moment I walked through the doors till the moment I left it was great, room clean, staff lovely, level 11 was fantastic. Since my great experience previously with this hotel I thought "yes! Cairns trip, def booking best western". ah ah, I was 110% wrong to think it would be like it was before. My second experience was horrible...... I walked through the front door and a few rowdy individuals had just checked in. I than convince myself that it will be fine. I continued to approach the front reception. As I went to the counter to check in I spoke to a lovely gentleman who started to check me in, however next to him were two other men playing on their mobiles and looked very scruffy. It was quite awkward and unprofessional. I was then given a smokers room that smelt so strong of cigarettes. I do not smoke so I tried to have my room changed, however I could not so I was forced to pay that night and went to another hotel. I was put on level 6 this time so if you do want to stay here, maybe get a room from level 10 up. The room was clean but smelt so bad. I was so put off I couldn't stay the night.

great place to stay.. Restaurant next door which serves early breakfasts. Right opposite a large shopping centre and within easy walking distance of other restaurants and the night markets. Short distance to the cruise terminal and there is baggage storage at no extra cost.

Located conveniently opposite both Cairns Central shopping centre and Cairns Railway Station, Best Western Plus Central Apartments provides modern, and well-maintained accommodation. Our one-bedroom apartment was self-contained, with modern kitchen equipment for someone wanting the convenience of self-catering. The apartment offered a large, shuttered balcony with an outlook southwards over the city and of the coastal range. And surprise...rusted roofs didn't fit into the vista. The bed was very comfortable; large lounge chairs also shared the quality and comfort. As a 'downer', reception desk is manned only 'til around 7:00pm, and any need for assistance is diverted to a call centre. This didn't really inconvenience us. We had a comfortable over-night stay.

We had a one bedroom room which was very comfortable and had plenty of room. I would have liked more room to store clothing that doesn't hang. The carpet on the floors needed replacing and were quite grubby. The floors in the bathroom also needed a good clean. Good position.

Stayed two nights in a studio, then returned for one night in a one bed apartment with washing and drying. Lovely al fresco balcony area. Well located opposite large shopping centre and within easy walking distance of many cafes, shops and restaurants, medical centre next to hotel entrance. About ten minutes to walk to the esplanade. Hotel itself is clean and one bedroom apartments are quite large, on higher levels with good views to the bay across the city. Lighting could be improved, especially in the kitchen, air con only in living area with ceiling fan in bedroom. Would recommend one bed apartment stay for just a little extra cost.

Stayed there 2 nights and was very well equipped with all your needs with cooking,washing etc. was giving a room with nice views of water and city. Staff are very friendly and accommodating.location is central to shopping,train,and buses. Only issue is wifi extremely slow or would find hard to connect in peak times at night.

Well positioned for the business trip. Located in Cairns CBD and across the road from the large shopping centre, The Central is a solid but bland hotel. The hotel has been incorporated in a building that houses office/commercial suites and a reception that looks a bit out of place. I certainly would not recommend this place for holiday makers as the feel to the hotel is not relaxing, no pool and a little way from the action. The rooms, beds, showers etc were reasonable enough for the price. Ok kitchenette for a stay at home cook up but plenty of eateries within 5 min walk.

Centrally situated opposite the main shopping mall and walking distance from train. Staying in a 1 bedroom apartment, very spacious plenty of storage, bed was firm and comfy, kitchenette had some lovely little touches like a coffee plunger with the coffee for it, and offered hot chocolate. Customer service was very obliging, and helpful. About a 10-15 min stroll to water front, on the way a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and bars to choose from

Worn, tired hotel. Great location in Cairns Central. Parking confusing. Hotel room worn, clock didn't work, lamps didn't work, couch torn and stained, AC not very cold and only a split system in the living area- no AC in the bedroom. Not serviced. No front desk staff in the morning for check out.

The 1 bedroom apartments are roomy and quite well equipped .The crockery supplied was minimal so you need to use the dishwasher frequently .The lighting was somewhat dismal in the kitchen and lounge areas but everything else was up to standard including the bed and storage space.Nice and handy ti the Cairns Cenrtal shopping mall and the railway station.Nice views from our 11th floor apartment with a balcony alcove for outdoor meals. The internet was painfully slow at times

A good location close to most thing in cairns city, the front enterance is a bit confusing to get in, room and amenities are basic, bed are comfortable enough. However the TV is small and the remote doesn't work.

This hotel is quite close to Cairns Railway Station which suited us as we were going on the Savannahlander. The hotel amenities were fine; but the shower outlet was blocked and the bathroom flooded. Room 707.

Most horrible experience. The shower drainage was not working and they was water overflowing from the drain and the hotel staff were clueless. I recorded a video of the issue and for 5 nights there was no assistance. One of the staff was so full of himself that he wasn't ready to acknowledge or look at the issue. And worst of all, they are hiding this issue which is going on for a while. Even the bottom of the vanity was rotting. So they didn't inform, didn't want to acknowledge and were totally insensitive.

Apartments serviced only after 7 days (written nowhere in the terms). Were there for 5 nights did not receive any service, Had to take out the rubbish ourselves. Arrived weekend night, no reception, building closed. No instructions on the booking, what to do whom to call. Dining chairs, sofa carpet worn out and not too clean. Bar stools with rust , toilet flush button rusty and disgusting . For sure overrated , not near close to 4 starts

This place is dirty and tatty and has unreliable, slow internet that connects for one minute and then disconnects straight away, and then won't log on at all. We were here for a week and despite asking reception to fix it, he said it was my device (actually our 2 iPhone 6's and a mac air that get internet everywhere else) and that it had nothing to do with the hotel. We were actually in two different rooms and neither of them had internet. And they have automatic air dispensers everywhere that squirt out this disgusting sweet stink that is choking and inescapable. The TV is a palasonic, not panasonic, which needs 2 control remotes to turn on, and a myriad of instructions. The stereo is so old it doesn't even have digital radio, has iPod dock that doesn't exist anymore, and is therefore useless. unless of course you brought your cd collection with you. Really poor effort. the owners of this place are just getting the cash, and not giving any service. the lounge has a huge rip in it. Can wait to check out.

I am currently staying in this establishment. I have been here for 6 days and had no access to internet despite moving rooms and frequently requesting assistance from reception. The reception staff response ranged from irritated, passive aggressive to inept. It came as no surprise to find that Nathan was related to the owner. On top of this the TV and radio barely work. The location is good but all else leaves you feeling dissatisfied. I have been booked to stay here in future but will liaise with work to find alternative accommodation.

I opted for a seaview facing, 1 bedroom apartment that was well appointed and very confortable for my 10 days stay. Rooms are starting to get a little tired and maintenace was lacking, but this can be due to clients not reporting any problems in the room. My room needed some attention but nothing earth shattering. Bed was very comfy, lounge/dining was spacious - nice access to sheltered balcony, great views, well appointed kitchen. Car parking was a struggle as you are in tye CBD and access is on one side of the building away from reception, so checking in can be a chore. Easy seamless checkin and very helpful staff. Situated right opposite Cairns Central shopping centre and 3 blocks from the esplanade.

Stayed there for 4 nights a week ago, very nice position just opposite a major shopping centre and It is also in walking distance to everywhere in CBD and waterfront. The apartment provided very basic necessities. Downsides were there were absolutely no room services at all in my 4 nights stay. Bathroom is very small and carpet is old. I made a mistake to think it was a full serviced hotel when I made the booking.

Recently spent 4 nights at these apartments in a Hotel studio room. The room had a small kitchen area with sink and microwave oven. It is located directly opposite the main shopping centre and about a 10 minute walk to restaurants and bars. The staff on reception were very friendly and helpful on arrival and the facilities in the room were adequate for our stay. The pool was undertaking some sort of repairs, however we were told that we could use it. It is not a large pool area but even so there were only 2 sun lounges and 1 chair.... so not real appeal to use it. We had a day trip planned to an Island and found it to be about a twenty minute walk to reach the terminal building.

The apartment rooms hotel has a good location - 20 minutes walk from the pier, many restaurants around, a shopping mall across the street (where many stores close at 5PM!). The rooms are spacious but we had problems with the facilities - the AC ventilator in the balcony of room 1107 was very noisy and the hot air made the balcony not usable. AC itself did not work too well, and the room lock was in poor conditions. We also had an unpleasant experience with the staff sending us a 'why did you not exit the room?' message one day earlier than our checkout date. Apologies were presented the next day, it was obviously their mistake, but no written mail cancelled the unpleasant one the day before we left (which arrived in the middle of a day trip). The hotel is a bit far removed from all the attractions but it's perfect if you want to get away from that. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable with all the amenities you would need from an apartment-hotel.

It boggles my mind how this place is so highly rated. It is well below average. It is tired and unkept. We had 2 rooms over 3 nights. The 1st was a studio with a great view but that was as good as it got. The carpet was torn and shabby, the shower let water out and flooded the bathroom., it smelt and was generally in poor condition. We discussed with reception(quite helpful staff) and she moved us to a one bedroom unit. Bigger room but that was it. The aircon did not have a display(remote broken) so you had to guess what to put it on and it had an unbearable musty odour and was visibly dirty. The toilet seat was broken. The washing machine lid - broken. The shower head($20 part) broken so you just got a torrent of water and could not adjust it. The outdoor setting was rusty and one chair was unsafe to use. The louvres on the balcony were so dirty I wrote "clean me" on them. And yes the shower was the same as the night before, water everywhere. A curtain in the lounge room had all its clips broken. This place is in desperate need of a renovation. There are better options in cairns. My work encourages me to use best western where I can but I will refuse to stay here again. I am not overly fussy and have stayed in budget accommodation in Asia but I chose that option. This is around the same price as other options and the reviews make it sound better than what it is.

Pros: Would be perfect for couples or people with older teenage kids. Super close to shops. Excellent location and beautifully clean rooms. All in all it was a great motel and a great stay. The only issue we had was that it is not a family hotel. "Games/family room" had very few video games that didn't work and the pool was dirty. Nothing available for smaller children

The location is great for anybody wanting to do the Barrier Reef or the rainforest, and although it is basic, it does the job and is fairly cheap. It is certainly comfy and clean. I thought that more staff would be on hand to help but that's a minor issue. Would be happy staying here again

Located right across the street from the Cairns Central Shopping Centre this hotel has a great location, it's an easy walk to the esplanade. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, this is a studio apartment with adjoining one bedroom apartment. The apartments have everything we needed including a washing machine, dishwasher, stove, oven and microwave. The rooftop pool is great after a long day at work. The apartment we stayed in this trip is a little more dated that the one we stayed in last time. We will happily stay here again next time we are in Cairns.

Positive: - Good location - Cairns CBD is small so you anyway are close to everything - wifi is okay - Staff are generally friendly and very helpful. e.g. during check in we asked receptions for suggestions where to visit. The lady gave us plenty of great advice. Negative: - Cleanliness: We booked an apartment with terrace. I am really unhappy with the fact that the terrace - without any nice views nor table / chairs for us to stay - occupies at least 1/3 of the room space. We booked our room (30+ sq meters) and ended up having a much smaller space than expected. And it is utterly DISGUSTING to see cigarette butts and cockroaches in our terrace! And I am scared of the latter and ended up having bad sleep because of the worry that they will sneak into our room. - Facilities: First of all, our room doesn't have a proper door - it is just a plank with handwritten label of our room number of it - how unprofessional is this?? Seriously, if the room is not fully furnished or not ready yet, JUST DON"T SELL IT TO YOUR CUSTOMERS! Bathroom is not well maintained. Once I thought the tap was going to be broken when i pressed it. We are two of us and they literally provided everything in pairs - I guess it doesn't harm to have spares spoons / forks, etc right? Our TV was not working - it took them two days to fix it. - Housekeeping: I stayed in some other serviced apartment in Aussie and they manage to provide daily housekeeping. Here in best western, they do it weekly. Huh?? That means if you are staying here just for a couple of days, you aren't going to get your bed sheet nor your towels changed. You ought to wash all your dishes and sweep your own floor. I would have picked another place if i know this in advance. Our bed sheets have spots of black / grey on it. I wonder how clean they were... - Noise: This apartment is right next to a road so you have to be prepared to bear some noises. One of the housekeeping rule mentions that no parties are allowed after 9pm. Guess what? Our neighbor was shouting / yelling / playing loud music on a Friday night / Saturday midnight! And i can hear it even after wearing my earplugs! It is clear that I shouldn't complain to them as they seemed to be drunk. Reception is not 24 hours which means we left with no assistance if such bad things happens. I really regretted my choice. It ruined my holidays here. I should have spent slightly more to stay in much better place.

Having spend 5 days travelling from the Gold Coast to Cairns for a special celebration with my wife. All the places we had stayed at along the way were exceptional until we got here. To open the door on a studio room and be smacked in the face with a very odd smell and a very ordinary room. Staying here for two days was going to be a challenge as the room consisted of a bed and one chair which u could not even sit on. If the room was priced at $85 dollars we probably would have copped it, but at $137 which on average was $30 more then some of the 5 star accomodation that we had been staying at, was really disappointing. BUT the saving grace was that the reception staff and duty manager were very helpful and friendly and offered us an upgrade...thank you. Having said that whilst the upgrade room was much more in keeping with what the price was reflecting it certainly did not really excite us with the condition of the room. Generally the wotif rating was well off. Both rooms were very old and tired looking and many years over due for a freshen up. Thank you again to the staff for all your help

All I wanted was a moderately priced hotel for two nights, suited what I needed, yes dated and a bit small but that was acceptable......but this place smells terrible, arrived and could smell it in corridor but not in room! but the fan was on, once the fan was turned of it was foul, would definitely had checked out if we was there any longer, could be drains, rubbish chute.. really not sure but most things you can accept living in a hotel for a short time but not this foul smell... be careful travellers!!

"Close to train, bus and shopping"

We wanted a hotel close to the train and bus stations and found this hotel very convenient. In addition, it was opposite the major shopping plaza and close to medical services. We found the staff very friendly and the room clean and spacious with a personal balcony. It has free wifi and cooking facilities but you can also purchase a breakfast pack from reception for a reasonable cost. It is several blocks from the esplanade so it would not be suitable for someone looking for ocean views.

"Decent for price paid"

The location was good, next to the main streets, restaurants, mall, and the reef terminal. Our room wasn't bad for the price as it had a fridge, coffee press, toaster and sink for breakfast. We weren't looking for a lot of amenities as we flew in one night, spent a day on the reef, then flew out the next day, so the price point was good. Wifi was included which is always a plus when traveling abroad. The only real issue we had was the room had a damp/mildew smell which was off putting but once you were in the room for a few minutes, you became acclimated.

"A Shocker"

Despite all the reviews, we could not have been more disappointed. This place should be avoided until it receives s major makeover. From bad smells in the corridors, to broken swimming pool pumps, poor checkin attitude, dark corridors, unsatisfactory front desk hours, confusion over priority of other tenants vs room tenants, and no breakfast as advertised it was a major let down. Many other properties could have been secured with lower pricing. I would struggle to rate it a 3 star.

"Wheelchair friendly"

I stayed in a one bedroom self-contained apartment for 10 nights which was wheelchair friendly, the bathroom was perfect with rails and a shower bench good space. Lots of room in the bed room and lounge room has also got access to the outside balcony. With the kitchen, if you travel by yourself, you may need somethings to brought down etc..(plates, bowls, drinking glasses) due to the high shelving. The place is well secure, has a electric door which made it easy for me to access in and out of the apartment. Cairns Central which is one of the major shopping centre which is directly across which has Coles, Kmart, Myers other stores a food courts and Cinema. It is about 13 minutes walk to the esplanade and the lagoon.. I had a great stay, the staff are more than willing to help you out and make your stay comfortable.. I thank all the staff for making my stay pleasurable.. I would stay there again.. I recommend it to anybody with a wheelchair or walking aids..

As we live 2 hours from Cairns, we usually stay overnight in Cairns at this hotel. We have found it to be in a great location - so the kids can go to the movies - and we can go out to dinner. We usually have an apartment so that we can spread out - this visit we booked a one bedroom apartment with a roll away. The roll away (apparently) was the most uncomfortable thing my daughter has ever slept on (make sure you request an extra towel as we did not get one with the roll-away). And apart from the dishwasher and DVD being broken, we still had a great time. If you like a shower that has pressure, you won't find it here, but you will find friendly staff, clean rooms, and comfortable beds. And it is a great place to spend the morning with their plunger coffee, reading the paper on the veranda of your apartment. One of the best things about this hotel is that they have a nil tolerance for noise.

I stayed in a one bedroom apartment for 5 nights. Good location with Coles just across the road, yet still not far to walk to The Esplanade. Also convenient walking distance to the train station when travelling by train. Received a room on the lowest floor of the hotel (level 5), but still excellent views. Some minor issues had a slight negative impact on my stay. Firstly, there was no shower screen, just a bracket where one used to be. This meant water went all over the floor and toilet. Reception told me it was going to be replaced soon, but I wasn't too worried about it. As many other reviewers have mentioned, there is no air-conditioning in the bedroom - I can imagine this could be a issue during the summer. The fact that the wifi is free was most welcome, but the signal was weak in my apartment. Had to stand in the kitchen to use the wifi on my phone. I recommend bringing an ethernet cable for laptops - there is an ethernet port to connect to the hotel internet in the bedroom, and that connection was fine. Also, the frypan in the apartment was coated with grease. And on one occasion I went to use the oven grill, but the elements must have been dirty, because the oven quickly filled with smoke. There was some wear and tear in the apartment - tears and stains on the curtain for instance. These issues aside, my stay was still enjoyable and I would happily stay here again.

We only stayed here for one night as a stop over. It is very central to shops and amenities as well as a short walk to the waters edge. The room was clean and had all that we needed. Staff were friendly when checking in and out and answered all our questions.

I spent a week here and enjoyed a one bedroom apartment on the eighth floor with lovely views of the City, Ocean and Mountain range. Biggest disappointment for me was not haven't anything else in the kitchen to cook with than one solitary saucepan. I went out and purchased a small frypan and a couple of microwave bowls, so I could make a meal or two!!! Unit was clean and the housekeeper who attended half way through my stay was nothing shirt of awesome, with her efficiency and attention to detail. Great job. Apart from being right in the City Centre which is always busy and loud with traffic noise until the wee hours, when everyone finally, seems to be off the streets in Cairns; the setting was pleasant and functional. You can also hear your neighbours from time to time, too, but thankfully with the complex having a definite "no party" rule, most folks were settled by 11pm. In hindsight, I also thought the accommodation was a little pricey too. But then Cairns accommodation pricing is at the middle to high end of the spectrum. All in all, I found the one bedroom apartment suitable for a business trip. Oh yeah, I would also recommend you take you're own internet dongle, because the internet was very slow and rather inconsistent. I gave up on it within the first 24 hours. Reception staff were lovely. Very helpful. However, when I left at 6am to get to the airport with plenty of time; I was buggered if I could find a chute at the front reception area for a key drop!! I just had to leave the cards on the top counter and hope they were discovered when Staff arrived for work.

We were so glad that we chose this hotel because it offered us a 2 bedroom apartment as we are a family of 4, and it's close to everything, within walking distance! The 2 bedroom apartment consists of a twin bedroom, bathroom and with a small kitchenette, and with connecting door to another "apartment" which has a double bedroom, a living room, laundry with a washer and dryer and detergent, a large bathroom for disabled people and a kitchen. Cookery, cutlery and utensils are provided and enough for 4 people. There was also dish detergent and tea towels, so we bought food back to cook. There's also a spacious balcony with this double bedroom and a wall divider in between the other room's balcony. The spacious balcony had a table and chairs so it was irresistible not to sit there to enjoy a cup of coffee and the great view. We really enjoyed staying at this wonderful hotel and you have our sincere recommendation!

We had the 2-br apartment, which is essentially a studio and a 1-br with the connecting door opened between them. So it's good that there are 2 bathrooms. Location is right across the road from Cairns Central Shopping Centre and it's useful to have Coles and Myers and Target close by. There are many restaurants within walking distance and the Esplanade Boardwalk is a 5-min drive away. The 1-br apartment only has a aircon in the living area and none in the bedroom. Only a fan. Might be too warm in the summer. The studio has both a fan and an aircon. We stayed on 2 separate days and got 2 different rooms. The first apartment was not in good shape. The room just needed sprucing up. Curtains were torn in places, stains on the carpets and I found a men's underwear under the bed (eww...). The second apartment was much better in terms of cleanliness and the washer and dryer looks new. I would give this place 4 stars if I hadn't seen the first apartment.

We wanted a hotel in downtown Cairns near to the Reef Fleet docks, with microwave/fridge, and not too expensive. This hotel fit that and more. There's a shopping mall across the street, with a grocery store, "bottle shop"(liquor store),Kmart, Target, and highend stores. The staff was very helpful in finding restaurants, storage, and insider information. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was just perfect for us. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds. A nice little balcony with views to the mountains which was lovely. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We also used the swiiming pool on the top floor, even though it is relatively small it was still nice to cool down in the water. The views from the top are spectacular. What was also small was the TV in the room. It didn't matter as we did not come here to watch TV. The wifi was a bit slow but we managed. The hotel is located right next to a large shopping center and it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the waterfront. This was ideal for us. I would stay here again without any second thoughts

We cannot fault this impressive apartment complex - from the spacious, beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean accommodation with all mod cons (and an amazingly comfortable bed), to the ideal central location (walk everywhere!) and the superb customer service and care that we received from the moment we arrived! We will definitely be staying here on our future visits and we can highly recommend this property to everyone looking for quality, affordable accommodation in the heart of the CBD. We particularly enjoyed our apartment on level 10 as we faced the ocean and had a landscape of the city in front of us from our large balcony. Irrespective, this property ticks all the boxes and more!

Stayed at these well appointed apartments for 2 weeks . Everything is clean and staff exceptionally good especially receptionists Sarah . It is over the road from shopping and walking distance too clubs and far from the noise of backpackers partying and the noisy bats up around the esplanade has great pool and spa with no noise when u need that quiet night . Rates were ideal on 2 week stay highly recommend ????????????

This is the third year we have booked an apartment here. Great location, very friendly, helpful and efficient staff especially Sarah with whom we have had the most contact. New managers Sean and Debbie have been most helpful and I am hoping their imput is going to revitalize this wonderful property. In the past we have booked an 08 apartment which has one bedroom and an ocean view. This year they gave us 808 and everything was ready for us at the desk. We are staying 28 days and the is a special rate for longer stays. Upon entering the room the first thing we noticed was one of the sheer curtains in the living room area was totally shredded and the ones on the sliders and bedroom were also starting to rip but not as badly as the living room. The next problem and more serious was the lack of the promised wi-fi connection. Happily after one night in Room 808 and no hope that the wi-fi was going to work Debbie moved us to 810 across the hall. The internet worked but basically only standing up at the kitchen counter BUT we considered the apartment a definite upgrade as the kitchen, bedroom and living room were all larger and we had the same great view. We have already booked for next year a "10" room. We were scheduled to have housekkeping service once a week and after The first three weeks I am not completely sure just what this is supposed to entail other than changing the bed and bathroom linens. You can ask for clean towels at any time. The first week I did see someone mop the kitchen and bathroom floor but since that time it has not been done. The carpet had not been vacuumed until I specifically asked week three. The dispensers for soap, conditioner, etc. are not checked weekly and we have two that have been empty for 4 days. My request the first day to have them refilled has not been done so someone is not following through because it was entered into the computer. We have a beautiful porch but the floor gets dirt, dust and moisture from the environment and in our almost four weeks it has never been mopped. The bottom of my feet or slippers are filthy. It was mentioned that the hotel may be scheduled for remodeling and it would be a shame if carpets, furniture and draperies are all replaced but then weekly maintainance is not done. I have been doing the best I can to keep the tile floors mopped up but it is hard without the right cleaning utensils and supplies. The one and two bedroom apartments have their own washer and dryer which is a big advantage. Another positive I have noticed is that when a guest checks out the housekkeping staff does a very thorough cleaning of the whole apartment before the new guest arrives. We really enjoy staying at these apartments and would strongly recommend it to others for a family holiday, a romantic getaway or a business trip. It fits the bill for all and Sean and Debbie will welcome you like you are coming home.

We spent 1 night at Best Western and we would have liked to spend more days there since the apartment was very comfortable. Extremely comfortable bed and very friendly staff. There is not much to complain, the only thing is that air conditioning is only in the living/kitchen/dining room and not in the bedroom; however there is a fan in the bedroom and it is as good. Also, the shower leaked water cause the water stopper was not there. Highly recommended.

The apartment was large and in a great location. The kitchen was well-equipped. However, there was air-conditioning in the living room only, with no air-conditioning in the main bedroom, so sleeping was uncomfortably warm. The two large east-facing windows in the main bedroom had only net curtains, meaning that the light came in and woke us up extremely early every morning. The property supposedly had wifi, but both of the wifi networks were extremely slow and kept dropping in and out for our entire three day stay, to the point that the wifi was unusable - we ended up going to a nearby cafe to sort out some internet reservations. Housekeeping was fairly poor - amongst other minor annoyances, we found a pink balloon and a rotting apple core under the couch. The DVD player was broken, but we didn't work this out until after we'd rented two movies. We then discovered that there was a second, identical DVD player behind the TV, but this one also didn't work. From the presence of two identical DVD players at the same TV, I would guess that there had previously been problems with the DVD, but that these had not been rectified by management. Looked like good value for money when we booked, but not so much when you take all these issues into account.

On holiday with my brother visiting from UK, booked a room with twins, telephoned before booking was told twin beds would be made available, requested twins on booking. On arrival queen bed... No rooms available with twins so I had to sleep on roll away in the lounge area, bedroom has a big wine stain on the carpet and other markings. Rings reception to let them know( nothing done about this whilst we stayed in the room) next day moved to twin room, net curtains in the bedroom slashed and TV not fully functional. Rings reception TV replaced, net curtains left in situ. Staff blamed housekeeping for not letting them know! Day before leaving I'm in the lobby meeting a visitor, during which time receptionist is ringing the room, requesting payment for the room( full payment was made on booking). My brother told her I was in the lobby, she shouts after me as we were getting in the lift (so embarrassing). Never been so happy to leave the place. Moved to a fully functioning hotel, with friendly staff and as described in the booking and brochure.

The BW apartments sits right across the Cairns Shopping mall and 15 minutes walk to downtown Cairns which was perfect for our family. We had 2 apartments that were connected and was quite spacious as each had its own bathroom and 1 had a full kitchen. There is an balcony connected to each room which we did not use much. With one day of our trip being rained out - the shopping mall was very convenient - the Coles grocery store was excellent, plenty of shopping and some restaurants and food court to take care of your dining needs. Do keep in mind that you will need your access card to use the elevator for your floor and any after hour access. The reception is only open from 7-7 on weekdays with shortened hours during the weekend. Plan ahead and let them know if you are coming outside these hours. Had to get the staff to show us to work the safe in your room as the instructions are incorrect, and it was difficult to keep the connecting room propped open - the phone directory finally did it as it was a heavy door. There are several restaurants within walking distance. The apartments also provide all the basic necessities - laundry, microwave, utensils, shower soap, shampoo and even shaving cream on dispensers. Were able to also get pool towels for any outdoor activity you plan. A good stay overall.

No need for a car as this centrally located is an easy walk to all attractions. Located opposite the main shopping centre it is approximately 10 minute walk to the port, casino, esplanade with heaps of restaurants along the way. The rooms are clean, large and well appointed. Very friendly staff. Will be staying here next time we are in Cairns.

this hotel is awesome the staff had my room ready before my arrival the one bedroom apartments are very spacious with 2 outdoor sitting areas and have everything you need just bring your clothes and have a great stay don't forget to enjoy the roof top pool and spa and the convience of having cairns central across the road with Coles for food shopping plus other stores and a food court hope you enjoy your stay as much as me

Clean, modern room. Kitchenette with microwave and bar fridge. Tv was quite small and in a strange location to the side of the bed, was fine for one person but might be difficult to watch with two laying in bed. Free WiFi was a bonus. Friendly staff. Perfect location for shopping, directly across the road from Cairns central shopping centre. Walking distance to restaurants.

We stayed here for a few nights whilst exploring the rain forest and the reef. We had asked for an upper floor with a sea view and got both. We had a one bedroom apartment and were surprised at how spacious it was. A very large balcony, with patio table, had lovely views towards the sea. The kitchen area was well equipped. We found the reception staff polite and helpful. Towels are not changed automatically, but if you take them down to reception they will renew them. A secure car park is on the ground floor. While we were there it was often fairly full but we always managed to find a space. There is a pool on the roof but its size is somewhat limited! The free WiFi was limited to a minimal amount and seemed fairly slow anyway. However, we had a strong Telstra mobile signal, so that didn't really matter. The apartments are a 10 minute walk from the harbour but immediately across the road from a mall with various shops including a large supermarket - ideal for self-catering.

Well appointed facility with good location for shopping (across the road) that includes food or gift items – several large stores. Several blocks walk to restaurants on the water or the main area of Cairns. Rooms were comfortable and quiet – lots of kitchen equipment for eat in option. Staff were very helpful and friendly. A bit of a walk to harbour or more upscale parts of town

"Nice room, good location"

We stayed two nights and had a good experience. This is not a luxury hotel but for the rate it was nice. The room was standard size, very clean and close and centrally located. I would not hesitate to recommend this property for those who are not looking for a resort with all of the amenities.

"Good size room, handy location"

Recently stayed for several nights whilst on business in Cairns. Easy location to shopping centre, short walk (10-15 minutes) to Esplanade. Room not serviced daily but you can get fresh towels from reception as you need them. Only draw back - room a little noisy during peak traffic period. Good for those wanting a little more space.

"Short but very sweet"

We booked for 2 nights in a studio and was very impressed. The rooms was very clean, well appointed, fresh inviting modern design, bed very comfortable and having the small kitchenette was a great feature. I loved the shower and bathroom design. Parking was easy and free. Location was also a highlight, although not right next to the esplanade but only a few minutes walk. I am a manager at a very well known 5 star chain and only booked here as my hotel chain was fully booked due to a conference and whilst i was disappointed at this, this hotel far exceeded my expectations and I would love to stay there again!

stayed here for 2 nights in october while holidaying in Cairns. Hotel was great value for money with a studio room with fridge and kitchenette with microwave. Great balcony a little on the noisy side if your looking for somewhere quiet I would try somewhere else but apart from that really happy with the stay. Free wifi was very limited in data - not really a selling feature.

Central position to see my customers. Room was great, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet. Only disappointment was that they do not have a restaurant. Esplanade is an easy walk and close to great option for places to eat. Shopping centre is across the road.

"Excellent stay, exactly as described"

I stayed two nights in a studio and found the property to be clean and exactly as described on the website. The staff were very helpful on check in, my room was clean and everything worked as it should. The hotel is in a great location near to everything you need and I will definitely stay here in the future. I normally stay at the Pullman, but this is half the price and would suit a family or solo traveller.

"Basics supplied for the business traveller"

Stayed in this hotel for a business trip for 2 nights. The basic comforts are supplied in the rooms with a reasonably comfortable bed, foxtel, aircon and a reasonable bathroom. The TV in my room was a bit of a pain as it was on the side wall not at the end of the bed. The reception is open business hours only and there is no reasturant or minibar available. This is a little inconveinient as a business traveller. There is free off street parking and a pool on the roof. I was a little surprised that my room wasn't cleaned daily either. Overall a basic no frills place to stay a little back from the esplanade but not worst place i have stayed.

Extremely helpful staff. Full of info.about places of interest and ready to book anything for you. This is not a hotel and reception is manned only during the day. Appartments very comfortable with everything you need. Ok so there is no room service but you know this when you book. If you need something you only have to ask. Free undercover car park. Good access to super market if you feel so inclined to cook. Short walk to the sea. Free Wifi.

"Ok but a bit far from attractions"

I booked this hotel for a 5 day trip and being 20 weeks pregnant, I found the walk to the esplanade, restaurants and attractions in the city a bit far in the heat (about 15 minutes walk). It is however convenient if you need to access the train station as it's across the road and there's also the local shopping centre there. For convenience I would probably choose a hotel closer to the esplanade as we had dinner around there every night. Our rooms were not cleaned at all for the 5 days we were there, which didn't bother us much apart from the fact that we ran out of toilet paper on the last day. We also booked some attractions through the hotel such as kuranda train and skyrail and they have other attractions as well. Pros: - Across from shopping centre and train station - Free secure parking - Free wifi (200mb limit per day) in room and 2 computers in lobby area to use - Balcony for smokers - Toaster, kettle and microwave with some cutlery - Pool on 13th floor - Split system airconditioner and fan in room to control the temperature Cons: - Far walk from esplanade - The shower has water leaking out and the floormat was always drenched in water - Pillows and bed were very soft which caused back problems for me - Room didn't get cleaned at all during out stay

I don't like paying $11 for a pint of Australian beer, but once ordered you are stuffed! Its the same with this place. Once I saw the place I was stuffed, because I had paid already! At $190 a night it needs to be closer to the action and it needs room service and a restaurant! There is much better value in Cairns, so I am out in future.

Centrally located within walking distance of many restaurants as you need to know that this place doesn't provide evening or breakfast meals. Well set out small room with microwave. There is a pool a few floors up and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Nice room with large covered balcony and kitchenette. Quite and very clean.Very handy to the major shopping centre. Good nights sleep. Property still feels new. Friendly staff at reception I had requested a covered balcony as I don't like heights and some balconies are glass which offer nice views for those who like that. Will definitely stay again.

This apartment was our 'home away from home.' It was very clean, modern, roomy, and amazingly located. It was within walking distance of so many important things. The only thing is that we spent 3 nights and there was no service of the room - we even had to take our rubbish to a chute nearby. Apart from that, we had a happy stay there.
