"Wonderful Stay in Caen with Family"
Explorer41870758147, 29 Décembre 2023

This was the second time I have stayed at this hotel in Caen. This time I reserved two connecting rooms. It is still a wonderful hotel. The location is amazing - right in the center of Caen - with easy walking access to city attractions and eateries. The facilities are spotlessly clean, as are the rooms. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are well appointed. Breakfast, a buffet, is stocked with a diverse array of options, and the woman that manages the breakfast room is warm and inviting. Above all, the staff is exceptional - friendly and helpful in every way … extremely professional and welcoming. The only negative…unfortunately a new bar opened up across the street from the hotel…and it plays loud music until around 1:30 AM. The hotel staff is very sympathetic to the noise issue, but unfortunately there is not much they can do to stop it.

"One of the best hotels in Caen"
periandro, 28 Novembre 2023

The Best Western Plus Hotel Moderne is a nice, hospitable and comfortable hotel in Caen. It's located in the town center, close to the most interesting monuments of the city. It's very well decorated inside and its lobby is very bright and gay, its decoration being concocted with much taste. The hotel is quite peaceful, particularly the bedrooms. In this respect, I was allocated a very good room. I wasn't disturbed by any noise coming from other guests. Therefore, I could sleep pleasantly all nights of my stay in that hotel, the more so if the fact that the bed mattress was very adequate as far as its toughness is concerned is taken into consideration. Apart from that, the room is in itself nice and very well furnished. The staff members are all very kind and helpful, both the ones working at the reception area and the ones at the breakfast room. At that room there was Rebecca, who is a friendly, kind and charming lady. The breakfast is very abundant. All the food available there regarding that meal is very tasty and of an utmost quality. The breakfast room is besides a wonderful place to enjoy the meal concerned thanks to its comfort and the calm reigning there. The hotel is therefore an excellent place to stay in Caen. I had a gorgeous sojourn in that city mainly due to the fact of having chosen that fantastic hotel. I should thus recommend to book in it to anyone visiting Caen.

"Great Stay in Caen"
Q9672HPchristopherp, 24 Octobre 2023

Hotel is new and very nice, close location to most things in the town. Staff was very friendly and helpful and would always go out of there way to help. We would stay here again and recommend to others.

"Walkable to all parts of the city"
Vacation785975, 09 Octobre 2023

4* quality, city centre hotel. Walkable to all parts of the city. Friendly and helpful staff and comfortable rooms. Limited basement parking for a fee. Convenient place from which to visit other towns and cities i.e. Bayeaux or Mont St Michel.

"Modern, comfortable hotel"
Y5930VCjimh, 19 Septembre 2023

The hotel was very modern and comfortable. We especially appreciated the elevator, as we had spent the prior week in a 3rd floor walkup, boutique hotel in another part of Normandie. The staff was very friendly and helpful, with good English.

"Review of Best Western Le Moderne"
Jill B, 06 Septembre 2023

This hotel was lovely! The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. They assisted us with dining reservations and tickets to the Caen Memorial Museum. The room was clean and a great value! We highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again if we come back to the area!

"Best hotel"
pattybloom, 28 Juillet 2023

Excellent location, staff, and rooms. The staff was very caring and assisted with medical help when I fell ill. Close to a market, good restaurants, and some historical sights. The free Wi-Fi in the room was fantastic.

"Quiet and Comfortable"
Alan F, 16 Mai 2023

BW hotels are independent and each has its own personality. But over the years we have discerned a strong standard of value and hospitality. The Moderne is no exception. We liked the central location, the private car parking in their small garage under the hotel, and the pleasant staff. Kudos for the excellent lighting in the bathroom and the generously sized bath towels. It's nice to have a wardrobe tall and unimpeded enough for long clothes to hang freely. The hotel is old but thoughtfully updated, with plenty of electric sockets suitable for charging laptops, phones, etc. . Not quite art deco, but some nice touches paying tribute to its history. The breakfast is a bit formulaic, but decent. Caen is a history of great character and history. The Moderne is well situated to help you have access to all you may wish to see, and probably convenient for business purposes too.

"Top notch hospitality, great front desk service"
Heather B, 27 Avril 2023

My two night stay, April 24 & 25 was entirely satisfactory. Breakfast on the first floor was a delightful surprise. Excellent attention to detail and wide array of choices. What a treat being able to squeeze my own orange juice. The toaster was unavailable, but the apologetic and gracious staff and alternative selection of food, made up for any disappointment. I had an early morning check out. Taxis were unavailable at that early hour. The ladies at the front desk went above and beyond to compensate. The lady in charge, A, has a natural way of making you feel special and appreciated. And another front desk employee accompanied me to the tram nearby, to ensure I boarded the correct tram to Gare Caen. I was boarding a train, so time was of the essence. The hotel is extremely lucky to have these caring and efficient women at the front desk, and dining room. I was humbled and most impressed. The room was clean and comfortable and very quiet for sleeping. The hotel location is central with several amenities nearby. Highly recommend this hotel to those seeking a high level of hospitality, including excellent problem-solving skills and an enthusiastic and helpful attitude. Thank you.

"The perfect Hotel When Visiting Caen"
Justin C, 25 Avril 2023

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome at this hotel. The hotel has car parking under the property and the person on the front desk ( apologies I can't remember her name) was very helpful in guiding us into the car park and even carried some of our luggage up to the reception area. The rooms are very comfortable and very quiet, the breakfast was fresh with many options to choose from. There was a very helpful gentleman at reception who , on several occasions, was kind enough to book a couple of restaurants for us. Even when he was very busy. The only small issue we had with our room was the temperature of the heating, it was a little too warm for us. When I asked about this at reception I was told the the air conditioning is turned off in September and I fan would be brought up to the room. The fan never arrived, however we were compensated for this when we checked out of the hotel. Try the restaurant Beouf and Cow, it's fantastic and only a short walk from the hotel Overall the Best Western Plus Hotel Moderne is a very comfortable, quiet and centrally located hotel. I would recommend this hotel if you are visiting Caen.

"Well situated"
Teresa_Deyijgf, 22 Novembre 2022

Not a bad hotel well situated. There is a soir between the main door and the bedroom so there is no noise from the hallway which is very nice. The breakfast was very enjoyable: possible to cook your own soft boiled eggs and fresh squeezed OJ. All in all satisfied

"Travelling home via Caen"
harlowcherielee, 09 Octobre 2022

Such a comfortable stay in a lovely hotel in a beautiful city. A real suprise to us as we were just passing through on our way home to the Charente after a trip to the Uk and we decided to stop the night in Caen. We will return to both the city and this Hotel, they both exceeded our expectations completely

"No Frills in Caen"
mosno, 30 Septembre 2022

Clean room but quite small even though we were supposedly upgraded. Room amenities were lacking bar soap (all purpose soap in a pump) and wash cloths. Good reasonable breakfast. Good location. No fitness center. Small lobby. Helpful and enthusiastic staff.

"A very good hotel in a central location."
johnhouston2, 18 Septembre 2022

Best Western Le Moderne in Caen is right in the city centre. I believe they have a car park but as we needed to guarantee faultless exit for the car ferry early in the morning we used the Indigo car parking Place de la République which is just round the corner from the hotel (and is very good). Check in at the hotel was very good and we found all staff during our stay to be friendly. It's a modern building so, as expected, our room was comfortable, well appointed and very smart. We would certainly use it again.

"Wonderful hotel"
741ellas, 17 Août 2022

Great hotel to stop at on our journey home. Rooms were great and clean. We had a family room for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Pool area was great with lovely bar staff. Restaurant was excellent, food and service fantastic. Breakfast was great too with a good selection and again great friendly service. We will definitely be staying there again

"Excellent"
catherinemerlo, 20 Juillet 2022

My son my dog and I really enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Plus in Caen. Good size rooms, clean, AC works great, excellent Wi-Fi connection, Super friendly and helpful staff! Loved it. Special thanks to Orely at the reception!

"Just Beautiful "
390MaureenL, 11 Juillet 2022

Arrived here for only 1 night after ferry crossing so got there about 3pm. Really gorgeous decor in reception to greet us and the receptionist was brilliant. Our room was gorgeous too, quite small but adequate for us. Comfy bed and a bath. We went into Caen in the evening and had a love tapas meal at L'Hydropathe, a short walking distance from the hotel.

"Good for a stopover"
Peter and Sue D, 29 Juin 2022

We wanted an hotel close to Caen City Centre for a one-night stopover on a Sunday, so that we could easily walk to a restaurant for dinner. The Best Western Hotel Moderne was well placed for this and also has some private parking spaces in an underground garage. The hotel was comfortable and the staff helpful. The only problem was finding it - the hotel is in the middle of the pedestrian area and surrounded by one-way streets. It wasn't clear that there is an exemption for hotel guests to arrive and depart by car. Once we found the entrance, the receptionist was extremely helpful in pointing out the way to the garage and also recommending some restaurants.

"Weekend Stay"
Jeffrey S, 26 Juin 2022

Stayed two nights and the location is great. Other than parking two min walk away it was a good stay. Breakfast was good and the room was modern and nicely appointed. Staff was helpful. The location is very walkable and has shopping and restaurants near by

"Chopped & Stained bath. No show staff"
janetgF2730OR, 08 Juin 2022

Stained & chipped bath. On arrival from the ferry had to wait 10 minutes outside in the drizzle & nightfall at 10.15 pm before anyone answered the bell for entry to the secure garage parking. Understaffed & poor attention to detail in bathrooms

"Great Choice for a Hotel in Caen!"
Garudabill, 05 Juin 2022

What a great hotel! Convenient location, close to tram, many restaurants in area. Beautiful breakfast. Front Desk staff was really helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. Wonderful chocolate shop across the square. Great value!

"Perfectly located"
CatVol00, 15 Janvier 2022

Great hotel very well located in the center of Caen. Parking available, but we used a public parking a few meters away. Clean room, overlooking the pedestrian street and Galerie Lafayette. Nice, classic decor, cosy bar and lobby area. Breakfast where you could squeeze your own fresh orange juice. Short walk to busstop taking you directly to the Caen Memorial.

"Wonderful Hotel with Even More Wonderful Staff"
Explorer41870758147, 29 Novembre 2021

Absolutely wonderful hotel in the very center of Caen. The location is perfect - steps from the sights, shopping, and restaurants of Caen. The rooms are modern, fresh, comfortable, and clean. Attached parking was available and easy to use. Breakfast was a full buffet of fresh hot food and continental fare. Overall - a perfect hotel to use as a central base for touring Normandy. …I should also say the the hotel staff are the best part of this property. Every staff member is friendly, professional, attentive - and extremely willing to help ensure a wonderful stay. The reception, the housekeeping, the hostess serving breakfast…all were so welcoming.

"wonderful location!"
LisaJoe123, 21 Septembre 2021

Cannot say enough about this hotel!! The best location to shops, trains and restaurants. The hotel was clean and pretty and the staff went above and beyond to help with anything we needed! I would highly recommend this hotel for your visit to Caen and Normandy!!

"Great service and central location"
JesperEjlersen, 03 Août 2021

We selected Caen as base for our Normandy vacation. Best Western Moderne was selected for the central location. The hotel worked very well for these purposes. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and despite being located in the center of town we did not experience notable street noise in our 3. floor rooms.

"Superior Front Staff"
angelicamcmanus, 07 Juillet 2021

The front staff are so welcoming and pay attention to detail. This is the best customer service we have ever received from a front staff at a hotel. They all deserve a raise! Keep this staff happy they are worth a million! Thank you!

"A Convenient Location"
JackL160, 12 Janvier 2021

My wife and I live in Lower Normandie, so Caen is where we go for medical specialists. BW PLUS is a great place to stay both for hospital visits but also, of course, for business or tourist reasons. The hotel is modern, very clean (no small thing in these days of Covid) and the staff are friendly and helpful. As restaurants and bars are closed at the time of writing, the hotel offers both cooked and continental breakfasts, as well as a small, but reasonable, choice for dinner—including wine and beer. Our room was nicely furnished, spotlessly clean, and spacious enough for a short stay. There is ample parking nearby (we paid €6,50 for an overnight). We would certainly stay there again.

"Hotel excellence"
Fearless511884, 16 Janvier 2020

The outside looked very inviting and this first impression was doubled when i went inside. This is classy hotel with that Boutique feel that is often missing from some of the normal chains, The reception was manned by a charming lady who couldn't do enough to make the checking in process as quick as possible. The bedroom was excellent, clean tidy and very well presented. The breakfast was good and well laid out. Overall it was a great experience and I will certainly be returning in the very near future. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable

"Learn a little on the way"
IndySwimRun, 05 Novembre 2019

Learn a little on the way to your room. Short bios of a number of "artistes" line the halls. Modern hotel. Good buffet. The only downside was the duvet (which I personally don't like!) Location was very good.

"One night stay"
Coco261, 20 Octobre 2019

One night stay on our way back to the UK. Nice hotel in the centre of Caen with great access to lots of restaurants and shopping. Room was nice, recently refurbished and was very clean. Would recommend booking a space in the garage as nearest public car park is a short walk away. The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Very friendly and helpful - a credit to the hotel. Would recommend this hotel

"Great location, nice rooms, helpful staff"
Wendee W, 15 Octobre 2019

Great location and newly renovated room were very nice. The hotel is walking distance from lots of restaurants, shopping and night life. If you have a car, I suggest reserving space in the garage in advance as there is not much street parking.

"Good hotel"
Bubbles73uk, 06 Octobre 2019

I stayed in the Norman city of Caen, France for 1 night in September 2019. My stay didn't have the best start as despite specifically requesting a quiet room away from lifts, I was put in a room absolutely slap bang next to the lift - less than 2 feet away - it made me laugh so much I took a photo which I have attached. I arrived from the Caen train station by taxi - very easy. The hotel is in the centre of town, very close to the walled chateau ruins and abbeys, shopping area, etc. Five minutes from the tourist office where you can get maps etc. Easy to walk everywhere. But the best thing about this hotel is the employees - they were so nice, always willing to help, and all of them spoke perfect English. My room was a Comfort Double with a lovely large double bed. Safety deposit box, flat-screen TV, wardrobe, bottle of water Great private bathroom; it was large and immaculate with free toiletries.

"Central hotel with helpful staff"
HelenChandler, 25 Septembre 2019

We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. Reception staff were very knowledgeable and helpful with things to see and getting around the city. Decor lovely, rooms cosy but stylish with great finish. Loved have the Nespresso coffee machine and complimentary coffee pods topped up each day.

"Super Hotel"
Topsy60, 23 Septembre 2019

We stayed at this excellent hotel for two nights whilst visiting Normandy and the WW2 beaches and memorials. It was the perfect place to stay in the lovely city of Caen. The location is great and we found parking in the nearby Place de Republic really easy with the good directions we received from the hotel and it is literally just around the corner. Our room was on the fifth floor and had a lovely view over the town. Very well decorated, with a lovely bathroom and super fluffy towels. Plenty of storage space too. We had the express breakfast which was a continental breakfast with a good choice and well worth the 8 euros. The absolutely best thing about the hotel however is the staff. Everyone was good but the ladies on reception where fantastic. Check in was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome. They recommended and booked restaurants for us. Le Petit B was a winner. Oh and next door is a lovely Salon de The, Josephine's which does an excellent cream tea! If we were to return to Caen we would certainly stay at this hotel and highly recommend it.

"Excellent stay"
travel035, 11 Septembre 2019

The Best Western La Moderne in Caen is easy to find and perhaps 200m at most from the parking lot Republique. The women at the reception are beyond kind and friendly, really very helpful. Our room was large, a very nice king bed, perfect bathroom with lush towels. There is an elevator and even a nice bar in the lobby. Breakfast is extensive. A very nice experience, first class all the way.

"A great stay in Caen"
Gerry D, 03 Septembre 2019

Stayed at the Best Western Moderne in Caen for 5 days while touring around Normandy. This hotel is in the center of Caen and was simply great. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and above average in size for rooms in Europe. The bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel has air conditioning. The breakfast (included with the room) was well presented and stocked with a wide variety of breads, pastries, meats, cheeses, eggs, bacon and sausages. The breakfast staff were very pleasant. The hotel front desk staff were very pleasant, helpful and always had a smile. No request went unanswered or unfulfilled. While there is no parking area at the hotel there is a very convenient public parking facility just around the corner. I would definitely stay at this hotel for any return to the Normandy area. It is a great base for anyone wanting to visit the Invasion Beaches with Utah Beach being an easy 50 minute drive down the highway with many tourist sites along the way.

"Helpful, warm, and welcoming staff"
craigondrums, 30 Août 2019

Had a lovely stay here. Perfect location in Caen. The staff were very helpful, warm, and welcoming. Parking underneath was a little tricky to find initially but that was due to the nearby road works. The hotel is in a quieter part of Caen but good walking distance to all areas. The superior room was a cosy and pillows a bit soft for our liking but very comfy bed and nice clean room.

"Excellent hotel with extremely friendly and helpful staff"
SurreyGary, 20 Août 2019

Received a very warm welcome as parked our car under the hotel in our prebooked place. It is definitely advisable to book as only 3 or 4 spaces. The hotel has been completely refurbished to a high standard a few months ago. Our room is on the 4th floor accessed by a modern lift. It is spacious and has everything we need. We opted for the 8euro buffet breakfast that was good and excellent value. The staff are truly outstanding with their advice and welcome. We will recommend it to our friends

"Your Downtown Caen Destination"
peterkP1553CL, 05 Août 2019

Right downtown, close to the river and parks, this hotel exceed our expectations. Very quiet, chic decorations, clean and modern. Fine breakfast. Shopping, restaurants, historic sites, and the marina are a short walk away. Three minutes by cab from the train station.

"Absolutely fabulous!"
PMTK_11, 01 Août 2019

We stayed for five nights at the start of our road trip across France. Really lovely staff, comfortable room which was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and everyone was so helpful and friendly. Excellent location close to shops, bars and restaurants. We will definitely return.

"Modern beautiful hotel"
timetofly83, 29 Juillet 2019

Hotel is located in a pedestrian zone with good restaurants and shopping! It was a little challenging to find, but well worth it! Our room seemed to be recently renovated and was very clean. Hotel staff (Laura) were friendly, helpful and kind. I would highly recommend this hotel!

"Wonderful stay"
Journey602868, 29 Juillet 2019

We stayed at the Best Western Plus for 5 nights, I can't say enough good about this place. The location is great, close to so many attractions, restaurants, shopping and markets! The ladies at the front desk are so nice and helpful and speak great English. We rented a car for a couple days, they have a small garage for you to park in but if you are going to use the garage, make sure you let the ladies at the front desk know as they are very limited for parking space. The rooms are very nice and good size, the bed was very comfortable, bathroom was big and had a great shower. If we ever return to Caen, this will be returning to this hotel.

"Excellent!"
NSWildBlue, 16 Juillet 2019

The hotel is centrally located and close to some of the local tourist attractions in Caen. There were also some excellent restaurants within close walking distance of the hotel. The room had lots of available space, the bathroom had an excellent shower, and the WiFi connection was also easy and speed appeared to be very good.

"First stop a hit"
countconti, 03 Juillet 2019

This hotel was the first stop of our 28 day vacation. We were there for the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Could not use their parking lot due to the height of our vehicle but all else was very good. Right in the center of town and a short walk to everything. Staff very courteous and helpful. They have a lift and AC plus free Wifi.

"Good but not great, functional. "
362saintp, 27 Juin 2019

Stayed here whilst touring the Normandy beaches. Our room had been recently refurbished and was tidy enough if a tad small but had everything we needed. Check in and check out were easy, staff were friendly. Breakfast was a supplement and not that great. The continental selection was ok but the hot element was poor. Good location for exploring the city.

"Friendly Staff"
Road66328968966, 20 Juin 2019

Staff are extremely welcoming and helpful. They recommended a super restaurant for dinner and provided options of places to visit during our stay in Normandy. The hotel is clean and we'll maintained. Highly recommend this hotel.

"Disappointing stay in Caen"
Besteegirl, 11 Juin 2019

I had planned to stay at this hotel in Caen for 3 nights but checked out after just 1 and made reservations elsewhere. I had requested our two rooms be set up with a rollaway months ago. Only to find out when we arrived that was not possible - I wish someone had emailed me in advance to let me know! Anyone with families and in need of accommodations for children beware. The location is in central Caen. While rich in history we found it to be full of litter and in disarray with construction. Very unpleasant, rundown, people had no respect for the city's history. If you are visiting the area for WWII history, stay in Bayeux. It is a wonderful smaller town and a great launching point for sight seeing. The breakfast at the hotel was nice. I just could never recommend a stay here when there are so many other good options close by.

"Best hotel we have ever stayed in!"
Curious35644731179, 06 Juin 2019

Marie and female staff literally rescued us from what was turning into a very difficult trip to Normandy!Very professional and polite staff. We were treated like royalty! Beautiful large rooms & excellent internet! We wished we could have stayed longer. Whenever traveling in Euroupe always stay at a Best Western!

"Good Experience"
Carol S, 11 Mai 2019

The staff was helpful, my room was a nice size with a big TV and decent WIFI. Good location about in the middle of all the major attractions. They also had a very nice breakfast buffet. All in all a good experience for 3 nights!

"Very spacious and comfortable hotel."
melburrup, 07 Mai 2019

After having a horrible experience in Paris I was really worried about other hotels on our trip I had booked. This was seriously wonderful. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Room was comfortable and there was plenty of room for the 3 of us. My son didn't want to leave and go to our next hotel as this was really nice. Breakfast was good as well. A little over priced in my opinion but it is the same at every hotel and had more to offer than others. If I ever return to Caen I will for sure be staying here!!!!

"Outstanding Services"
Tonyphan23, 31 Mars 2019

Took a drive from Paris to Caen, decided to book at this Best Western for a night. First, this is an excellent location to the central of Caen. It's a walking distance from all the hot spots. Checked in very late. We had a minor with the initial room so we asked to be changed to another room. The receptionist was extremely cooperative and understanding. She switched us to another room instantly. The next morning another co-worker made sure that they were apologetic about the whole situation. I have to give 5 stars to the outstanding customer services. I will definitely stay here again if I am in the town of Caen again.

"Clean Neat Roomy"
Murray H, 19 Mars 2019

Nice clean modern Hotel in the Bedt Western Chain Very friendly and pleasant staff, very comfortable bags and nice spacious rooms, easy walk through the older part of town, which is emmaculate and absolutely full of history, a short drive from Juno beach. You won't find a hotel this nice in Paris

"Excellent Central Location"
triquet2015, 08 Mars 2019

This is an excellent little hotel and about as central in Caen as you can get. We had a top floor room that had obviously been recently modernised. Comfortable bed, a good bathroom with big walk-in shower, Nice view over Caen looking towards the castle. Charming staff with excellent English. This will be even better when they finish the interminable roadworks for pedestrianising central Caen. We stayed for one night as were taking in the Theatre which is just over the road.

"Good hotel with great location"
annekarenine, 26 Janvier 2019

The hotel is very nice, the staff is incredibly kind and friendly and the rooms are comfortable. If you go to caen I would recommend this hotel. It is right beside a supermarket and many stores. It is also walking distance to all the touristic sites of Caen.

"Good central location"
99BAC, 02 Novembre 2018

A very clean hotel with a central location. During the stay, the elevator was out of action and despite being promised a free drink for the inconvenience, this was not forthcoming later in the evening. Rooms were a good size, well appointed and very clean, breakfast was supposed to start at 6 45am, however hot food was not available until 7 15am on morning of our stay. Would stay again but on the basis of location.

"Wonderful Staff"
Stuart M, 13 Octobre 2018

We stayed here for 3 nights an had a great time. The hotel is centrally located within the city but not easy to find due to all the construction of a new tram way. Once you get there, the staff a wonderful, they are so helpul and that includes Laura, Frank and Aurilia in particular. They were the best front of house staff I have come across in many years. They deserve 5 stars! However, the hotel itself needs a lot of updating and improvement to make it a 4 * Currently, I don't know how it can be called a 4* hotel. Having stayed in many 4* hotels over the years, this does not warrant its status. The bedrooms are very small, the bathrooms are badly planned and tiny, they are all spotless and very clean though. The room service is virtually non existent as they don't have a kitchen. The breakfast was ok and was included in our rate. However, it was the same selection every morning with no variation. Come on Best Western, you have wonderful staff but not a wonderful product, you need to improve.

"Good location and good hotel"
657JamesS, 14 Septembre 2018

Good friendly service. Convenient location near shops but on a semi-pedestrianised road so you can probably park temporarily while you unload. Caen is currently ripping up many of the central roads for a new tram service so no guarantee you can stop right outside. Garage at rear which needs to be pre-booked. Breakfast rather expensive at 16 Euros but right next door is a tea room, no croissants but good scones and half the price. I would give five stars but the shower in my room, (I think room 308), was poor. It had a high lip to get in which my wife found too difficult to negotiate, the door opened inwards so it was hard to close it from inside, and the shower base was mosaic tiles sloping sharply downwards to the waste and hard to stand on so I'm docking them a star. I mentioned this on check-out and they will take my comments seriously as the hotel has new owners and they wanted to fix any problems.

"Great front desk staff"
Canadian017, 08 Septembre 2018

Good location for restaurants and shopping and sights. The front desk staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful, and overall we liked this place. Downside to the area was that there was road-work being done all around the hotel so there was noise and dust, and the streets all over town were being dug up for a new tramway to be built, so getting to where you wanted to go was difficult. But we would stay here again, and found the hotel parking very useful. We enjoyed the breakfast, although it was somewhat expensive and we only had it on one of the 3 mornings we were there.

"A good night's sleep in Normandy"
David W, 09 Juillet 2018

I spent 6 nights at this centrally-located hotel in early July on a business trip. I was given a second floor room that looked out on the street. The room had a new bathroom and other parts of the hotel were being renovated as the lobby was painted during my stay and the staff had begun to put an awning in over the front door. I tried the breakfast offered at the hotel one morning. It was a typical European affair with meats, cheeses, cereals, fruit, and some scrambled and boiled eggs. The town is well into a major renovation as some streets are being completely torn out and replaced. Sidewalks in the vicinity of this hotel were also being replaced; this led to morning noise, but I was up and out the door on business about the time it started each day. Caen is home to the fifth largest farmer's market in France, and it is fabulous. Every Sunday, about 3 blocks from the hotel, the city closes a large street and adjacent parking lots for vendors selling cheeses, sausages, fruits, vegetables, fish, and prepared food. This market is well worth a visit. I did in early July when cherries and strawberries were peaking. The hotel is an easy 20-25 minute walk from the train station or less than 10 minute/12 euro taxi ride.

"Good Location and Helpful Professional Staff"
Chiliburger340, 03 Juillet 2018

We stayed 3 nights to tour the Normandy area. The hotel is situated near quite a few restaurants, drug stores, and even a (Lafayette) department store. It is within walking distance of the cathedral and the castle. The theatre bus stop is just down the street where you can catch bus #2 that terminates at the Caen memorial. Their parking at the hotel is 10 euros/night but is limited. We were late reserving parking, so we had to park at the repulique underground lot about a block away for 17.5 euros/night. If driving, make sure you print the directions from the hotel staff. The gps put us about two blocks from the hotel and told us the hotel was in a traffic restricted area, so we just went straight to the parking deck. However, the directions from the hotel show you how to drive right to the front of the hotel to check in and drop your luggage. The staff was very helpful, friendly, professional, and fluent in English. They were able to reserve a spot in the Caen Memorial D Day tour, from the hotel after the local TI office was not. The breakfast was an extra charge, but was worth it from a time and convenience standpoint. It was also very good and the breakfast attendant was very good. Our room was very nice and had a king bed as we requested. This was very nice. The only 2 downsides to our stay was we were there was a National day of music on June 21st and I know the hotel had no control over this, but the person or band across the street was not music. It was some guy screaming into a microphone until 1:30 am. At breakfast the next morning, that opinion was echoed in several languages. Also the lobby and reception area was being renovated so there was some noise in the middle of the day, but that was no big issue. It appeared to be nearing completion. If visiting this area I would definitely recommend this hotel, but bring earplugs if you are there on June 21st.

"Caen accommodation"
charole618, 20 Juin 2018

Good location ; friendly english speaking staff and ample restaurants nearby. Rooms good size and breakfast is good. Bus station nearby so easy to visit War museum. Caen is a good city to stay in to do the Normandy WW11 tours.

"Very clean hotel and excellent staff"
gregh53, 17 Juin 2018

We used Caen as our base for visiting the WW II sites in the Normandy region. This hotel is centrally located in Caen and with our iPhone GPS, Caen was easy to navigate. Our rooms were well appointed and very clean. Hot breakfast was an extra 16 euro but the convenience and quality made it a good value. The front desk staff went out of the way to give directions and restaurant recommendations. Their English was perfect! Grocery-drug stores and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. If you are driving, let them know. Their parking garage is small and you will need to let them know in advance you have a car.

"Charming staff"
pointissima, 15 Mai 2018

We stayed here for a couple of nights in order to go and see the Bayeux tapestry, taking advantage of the very easy flight from Southend to Caen. Our room was clean and spacious, with a proper king size bed and nice soap and shampoo etc.. There was a Nespresso type machine; but never any capsules. There was some noise at night from the bar opposite. What makes or breaks a mid-range hotel like this is the quality of the service. All the staff here are absolutely charming, efficient and helpful. They all seemed to be genuinely delightful people. Breakfast was good; and the buffet was clearly ample, fresh and frequently replenished. Given, however, that we had other substantial meals lined up, we really appreciated the option of a cheaper, smaller "express" breakfast, comprising coffee, juice, bread and pastries. We had a most enjoyable stay

"A Room With a View!"
Jeffrey K, 30 Novembre 2017

We stayed here 2 nights while touring the Normandy area. We really liked the City of Caen and the Hotel Moderne. The Front Desk Manager treated us as though we were guests in her residence. I had trouble finding the underground parking garage which is a little tricky getting to and she came down to make sure that I didn't bump my head on the low hanging pipes. Our room was 503 on the top floor with a nice view of city below(picture posted). The drawback is having to deal with the angled roof supports but we didn't really have a problem. The bathroom was very modern. The breakfast was similar to the other Best Westerns we stayed at on this trip but the one in Copenhagen was the best. It is really nice to have a bar in the lobby also. My only complaint was the speed of the elevator which was extremely slow. I resorted to the stairs, which were nicely carpeted, on a few trips and always beat my wife on the elevator.

"Disappointed"
Alexann2015, 03 Novembre 2017

We have stayed at Best western hotels before and been very happy. This was very disappointing. After reading reviews we were expecting a better hotel and service. I completed their questioners and was expecting someone to get back to me but have heard nothing. Breakfast room was not at at all nice food on the floor every morning and cold food. Will not stay there again when we return to France.

"Great location, nice staff"
BonzerFive, 14 Octobre 2017

A. at front desk was very helpful, securing us a late lunch reservation at le P'tit B. We stayed only 2 nights, which is not long enough for this beautiful area of Normandy. Location is very close to Église Saint-Pierre and the Château du Caen. Clean rooms with decent size, good breakfast.

"Clean, nice staff, close to restaurants"
Susan R, 30 Septembre 2017

We stayed here for two nights for our visit to the Normandy Beaches. We found our room to be clean and neat. Suitable for what we needed - a safe, clean place to sleep for two nights that was closer to where we wanted to be. We enjoyed the town a bit with a visit to the castle and found lots of options for dinner. The parking garage is small - especially if you are American - but we had a smaller car so didn't have any troubles parking. The person at the front desk even came down on the first night to make sure we were okay parking (we had to take the antenna off of the roof of our car.) Overall, this is a solid, but not luxurious, choice.

"A little dated"
Kate S, 07 Août 2017

We were only here for one night, during a short visit to Caen for the memorial museum and the Normandy beaches. We had rented a car to get here and immediately regretted the "upgrade" we got from the rental agency because the parking garage is an absolutely nightmare!!! We had maybe an inch or two of clearance on the top and sides of the vehicle and my husband had to do a 15-point turn to get in and out of the garage. If you have anything larger than a compact car, do not plan on parking here!! It's just not worth the stress!! It also costs 10 Euro to use the garage. The hotel itself was very nice, though we both felt it was a bit outdated. Our room was huge - almost like a suite with separate entrances to the bedroom and bathroom through a little hallway. We loved the large, king size bed and all the space to spread out. We wished we had more than one night to make ourselves comfortable there! The hotel location is great - right in the middle of town with plenty of places to eat. It's about 15 minutes from the memorial museum and about 45 from Pointe du Hoc and Omaha Beach, if you're interested in seeing those sites. Overall, a nice stay, but I would not bring a car again!

"Nice hotel, very nice staff"
Liz G, 31 Juillet 2017

We stayed one night July 22-23. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful suggesting places to visit and where to eat, and even helped me make a phone call to a long-lost relative. The free parking is nice, but a little tight. The road with the parking lot is cobblestone, but the signage works fine to make sure you're in the right place. The room was pleasant and big enough, with all the amenities we expected. It's right in the middle of the city, near shopping, restaurants, and the sights.

"Kudos"
DEH1976, 28 Juillet 2017

We stayed two nights at this hotel. It had the best designed hotel room (remodeled 6 months ago), especially the bathroom. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and the service (Alake) was superb. Alake was very helpful recommending restaurants and tips/tours to the Normandy area. We highly recommend this hotel.

"Friendly and helpful staff"
Nicksreview, 19 Juillet 2017

The road modifications have made this hotel difficult to get to by car - you have to traverse a restricted area to get to it (but now you know I hope it makes things easier!). I like this little hotel, it's perfectly ordinary, but the reception staff make it above average. No designer fittings, limited parking, great location and great hospitality make this a most acceptable mid range hotel.

"Stay here if you want to stay downtown"
Deborah B, 08 Juillet 2017

We were in this hotel for 9 nights and in the begining did not like much. We arrived in a sunday afternoon and downtown is dead at this time. There is going a lot of street work in front of the hotel and the rooms can be noisy if facing the working area. We stayed one night at room 403 and did not like much but then we moved to room 410 that was wonderful ( quiet, bigger and perfect! ). The owners of the hotel are very nice and so is the people that work in the front desk: Alaké and the other lady that works at night. The amenities in the bathroom are excellent! I actually bought a body cream from them. The bad thing of this hotel is the lift that is tooooooooo slow. Sorry but they have to change it. We used the stairs to come down as it takes forever for the elevator to arrive. This hotel accepts groups and when they arrive is a problem because the elevator can not handle them.

"Average"
dsa99uk, 29 Mai 2017

We stayed at the Moderne, Caen arriving 24th May after three weeks touring in France and it brought us crashing back to earth. We ordered car parking by email. The hotel did not reply to the email "because we only had one night available." The consequence was three 75 year olds carrying their luggage half a mile across the city to the Castle car park at 6am on their final day. The breakfast was the worst and most expensive we had in France with a desperate choice and unreplenished bowls. Don't stay here unless you arrive on an escorted tour with a guide able to press your case. And the WiFi is withdrawn at midnight on your last night.

"Clean, helpful, and terrific breakfast"
Millie M, 21 Mai 2017

Had a two-night stay to enjoy the history of the Normandy region. The hotel is very comfortable and the staff are extremely helpful. Really enjoyed the breakfast choice and the bright contemporary breakfast room. This is the second time we stayed here - the first time was in 2008. The staff continue to offer top accommodation and good value.

"Excellent hotel!"
Angela J, 16 Mai 2017

Excellent value! Very nice hotel we were upgraded to a very nice room. Staff is great ! Location is perfect ! Would definitely stay here again! Parking a bit tricky to find and to park in. Did not try the breakfast as there arena y options very near by. There is a supermarket right in fri t of the hotel.

"Very nice and great location"
ESR5, 04 Mai 2017

The front staff was fantastic and as an American it was nice that they spoke English. They gave us a map of the area and answered any questions, called taxis for us. The room was nice with a nice size bathroom and tub. Free wifi and very centrally located so you can walk everywhere. There was a great sandwich shop called pita pit in walking distance. The only problem is they charge a small fee if you don't take breakfast.

"2 Night Stay while visiting Normandy Beaches"
vcm_11, 04 Mai 2017

The reception staff was awesome. First, they helped us park our rental car in their garage, then gave us some great advice (and a map) on visiting the Normandy beaches, as well as gave us some very good tips on where to dine and what to see in Caen. The room was very well apportioned and very clean. The breakfast buffet was really good with lots of variety. Great location for walking around Caen. Would definitely stay there again. Thanks!

"Friendly well located hotel"
Carine D, 30 Novembre 2016

Rooms were clean, the reception staff was very friendly and gave us some very good tips on where to dine and what to see in Caen. The garage is a bit tricky to park but they park the car for you if needed. Good location. Would stay there again.

"Good Location"
Lizz H, 15 Novembre 2016

This is an excellent location if you want to walk around Caen, they have some parking spots available on site if you have a rental. The staff was very helpful when I asked for restaurant recommendations, even providing a map. The breakfast in the morning had a large variety of options for food and beverages. The room was very comfortable and very clean.

"good for work and family"
idholness, 01 Novembre 2016

I stayed at this hotel in 2008 for 4 nights for work, then for 1 night this past September with my family. The buffet breakfast is excellent, the front desk staff are wonderful, and I even managed to enjoy a drink at the bar that same night in September. It's an easy walk from the hotel to the large Sunday market on the wharf, and the staff were great to talk to in French and in English.

"A suitable hotel for 1 night in Caen"
Anniutushka, 21 Octobre 2016

Everything was OK but I can't notice something special. Good place to stay in Caen. The location of the hotel is excellent, the staff is English-speaking (it was very important for our family), rooms are quite comfortable. If you stay there you'll be in 2 minutes from the Cathedral and the Castle

"Wonderful Location"
Goldierose, 28 Septembre 2016

The hotel room was nicely decorated with plenty of room for a large bed and a small bed accommodations. Great location and within walking distance to restaurants and historical sites. The internet worked great (my husband has to work on vacation). The morning meal offered by the hotel for additional cost was worth it for us. My daughter and I enjoyed our breakfast and time together before we hit the DD sites. The staff was especially nice. Parking was tricky the first few times but after awhile we were pros!

"Wonderful hotel"
David S, 03 Septembre 2016

Great room in the heart of Caen. Excellent, friendly, helpful staff. Easy walking distance to a wide variety of restaurants, the Chateau, churches, the boat basin, abbeys and more. Active nightlife, but not too loud in the room. Very clean room, excellent bath, and communal spaces. Could not have been more pleased. Very reasonable prices, as well.

"Good position, great staff."
Zoe B, 18 Août 2016

Finding the parking was bit tricky but we managed it with the signs eventually and it's a fabulous place for motorbikes as it's in a secure underground location underneath the hotel. Watch the head height though it's a bit low! Reception was excellent, very helpful and chatty every time we went past. Location is super with easy access to the local sights and shops. Breakfast was very good too. We'd visit again for sure.

"Holiday"
Bob S, 01 Août 2016

A great location (with parking if you are brave enough to follow the signs) and with great staff. We were received very well and had great conversations at the bar with very welcome Single Malts in generous measures to satisfy this Scot! Highly recommended.

"Battlefields of Europe tour"
Trevor G, 24 Juin 2016

An excellent hotel. Very centrally place with good walking access to all amenities. Reception was excellent. Very friendly, efficient and helpful. The rooms were good - everything that you needed. Despite being in the centre of town it was very quiet. Breakfast was excellent. Car parking is available - once you find it !

"Great Staff"
George B, 23 Juin 2016

Staff here are so helpful just ask. location is handy for driving around Normandy not difficult to to ring road and reasonably priced car park (republique) just around the corner. Tip parking at Republique between 20.00 and 10.00 ish is about half the price of the hotels car park.

"Lovely hotel in Caen"
Carol19580916, 21 Juin 2016

Lovely hotel, nice large room, lovely bathroom, breakfast - lovely selection, hotel easy to find, plenty of parking and loads of eateries near by. Near by churches and castle, and not too far to travel to mont st michel and bayeaux.

"The staff is great"
Steve W, 16 Mai 2016

We stayed here for three nights. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and helpful with advice on transportation and anything we needed. The Hotel itself was nice and everything was satisfactory, however the hallways were very dark. There were some switches on the walls, but we never figured them out. (Seemed like the hallway & stairway lights should just stay on). We would stay here again if we come back

"Modern hotel with family ambience"
Dale A, 29 Mars 2016

Warm, welcoming efficient service. Enough English plus our smattering to get by. Room clean airy and comfortable. TV, plus Krups Espresso machine. Comfortable warm beds. View of small quiet square. To the left is defunct but impressive Chambre du Commerce building tastefully converted into English style pub/restaurant- good food and impressive proportions with beef burgers bigger than your head. Underground parking only suitable for limited number of small cars. We had to park in the street next to Monoprix supermarket a couple of hundred meters opposite. Driving in Caen is challenging but then I'm 70. Fairly basic buffet type breakfast only. Plenty cheap and cheerful restaurants for all budgets nearby. Tour of City by Segway is a must by Com'on Gyro. Tour leader brings the machines to hotel and takes you to all the city landmarks cathedrals churches William the c. Castle etc. Caen great place to explore Oiusterham and WW2 museums on Sword beach,

"Upscale Best Western - All the comforts of a modern US style hotel"
LBIgirl_18, 08 Février 2016

Stayed here one night while visiting Normandy which is just a short drive away. This Best Western was ore upscale than is typical of the chain in the US. Clean, well furnished, with a great breakfast buffet, I was very happy with these accommodations

"Charming, comfy and friendly"
Ubley, 02 Décembre 2015

This centrally located hotel is family run and quite small and cosy. Delightful reception with a compact bar, really thoughtfully decorated and comfortable rooms, exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Really good place and would heartily recommend for anyone on any occasion.

"Solid hotel for a day or two in the area; A/C doesn't go very low; parking is tricky"
Kait414, 22 Novembre 2015

I needed a hotel for one night in the Normandy region so my group could take a full day tour of the D-Day beaches. This hotel fit the bill. The value is great. Overall the property was clean and fairly new. I enjoyed the larger bathroom space (especially after the Paris hotels), and the bed was very comfortable. There is a university nearby, so at night we could hear partying college kids. I always pack ear plugs, so it wasn't a problem, per-se. If you are warm natured, the A/C may not be strong enough for you. It doesn't really blow the way most folks would expect. It is more of a passive cooling so it takes a while to work. Parking is a little tricky to find, so I would definitely suggest contacting the hotel for details regarding how to find them if you are driving. The GPS was not helpful in that regard.

"Skillful pcitures"
Shaun G, 15 Novembre 2015

The staff were friendly, but for the late traveller arriving on a ferry it's easy to miss. The rooms are clean but very dark and quite small. The marketing pictures are accurate but well angled so what you see on the marketing materials is perhaps a little better than what you feel you've experienced. It felt a bit weathered certainly for the price but is well located for the ferry. If arriving late there is free street parking till 9 am and that is easier to find than the hotel car park anyway

"Happy c "
Nathan M, 04 Novembre 2015

This is why I give it 2 instead any higher. First I have history Best Western in the states and it all has been good to great. I think my expectations of this property was probably more than expected. Seeing it was a 4 star hotel. I don't think it would even qualify as a three star personally. In the last 4 weeks I've been here I have stayed in mostly 2, 3 and even some 4 stars this hotel doesn't measure up to some of those other hotels. One thing that irritated me the most was when I checked in they never told me a lot of things until it was time to check out. Paying for breakfast I except that. In our rooms were water and I was never told I would be charged. Again if they told me upfront I wouldn't mind paying for it. I just like to be informed thats all.

"Best Value in Town"
raymon7746, 20 Octobre 2015

The hotel can be a little difficult to find since it is on the edge of a pedestrian only section of town. Otherwise the location is fine to explore the town. Close to major sites and restaurants. The hotel is not large but is very clean and comfortable. The rooms are of ample size considering you are in France. We had breakfast every morning and the offering was pretty standard, eggs, cereal, pastry,, etc. but was well prepared. What I enjoyed most about this hotel was the staff - they all were extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations, courteous, and a pleasure to talk to. They were always ready to offer assistance. It is a good place to stay!!

"Tiny, hot rooms "
linda s, 07 Octobre 2015

Hotel has a good location but rooms are small and not made for American luggage. There is no room to move if you have two people. There is no AC or fan. There is a Thermostat but it must be shut off. Noisy street below means you can't even open the window.

"Okay...over priced."
mtallon, 24 Septembre 2015

Well located in the heart of Caen but very difficult to find with SatNav. Expensive considering you get charged for breakfast and other extras. They really need to check the bedbug situation as I was bitten throughout the night. There were even old stains on the new sheets, a telltale sign of bugs. Another huge problem is the elevator...the slowest one I have ever encountered. For normal people it s easier just to use the stairs but for older guests it could be very frustrating. Staff were friendly and helpful.

"Very accommodating staff"
KathMB, 22 Septembre 2015

We didn't plan our trip much in advance, so we ended up looking for hotels on the road during our trip. We have had some great experiences with the Best Western brand so when looking for a hotel near the D-Day beaches in Normandy we settled on this hotel. It was a good choice. The room was not large, but it was bright, clean and modern and the bed was very comfortable. We had initially decided to stay two nights, but we ended up staying three nights and the reception desk was very helpful and accommodated our last-minute request, even letting us keep our same room. The breakfast was a bit pricey, but very convenient and enjoyable nonetheless.

"Central Location, helpful staff, don't book breakfast"
stephanie n, 15 Septembre 2015

I booked a superior room for 3 days which was £125 per night including breakfast. When I arrived at the airport I got the number 3 bus to the stop for the theatre and the hotel was located a few minutes away. The bus cost 1.45 euros or a taxi would cost approx £25. The hotel was centrally located on several floors above shops, the reception was ground floor and included a small bar. My booking detailed superior room with shower and bath. My room was disabled friendly with a wet room type shower, fold down seat and no bath. I asked for a double bed, there was a double bed and a single bed which made the room feel a little cramped. The bed linen wasn't changed. The manager, who I didn't know was the manager as she had no name badge and Aurelie the receptionist were very polite and helpful, suggesting restaurants, giving directions, maps and looking up train times. In the room no bottled water was provided, only as part of the mini bar package. We were allocated 2 tea bags per day, 4 sachets of coffee and 2 milks. There was free wifi. On the first day the self service buffet was a cold selection with scrambled egg, boiled egg and bacon. On day 2 there was no bacon and the fruit salad was brown, no pieces of fruit were available. On day 3 there was no bacon, no cups, no fruit, hardly any bread and only one table for two as all the other tables were "reserved" for a group. I was not pleased to get poor service and did not have time to try get this rectified as I had a plane to catch. I guess I just expect good service in a 4 star hotel at the price I paid. I would suggest booking a room without breakfast as location and staff were very good.

"Battlefield Tour of Normandy D-Day sites"
Ian W, 14 Septembre 2015

This hotel was chosen as the main location for a party of 16 over a four day visit to several D-Day main locations in and around the Caen area. Our party had booked Bed, breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal at a local restaurant. The hotel was very welcoming, friendly and efficient in welcoming our party and assigning our rooms. The hotel facilities were very good, with clean rooms and breakfast area. The packed lunches were freshly prepared each morning and ready for collection when requested. The evening meals were arranged at a local restaurant (Au Bureau) which looked after us very well. A slight disappointment was that our pre-chosen menu selection were sometimes not available! However, the service was very good and attentive.

"OK for one night stay"
sherryl154, 14 Septembre 2015

I would recommend this hotel for a one night stay if you are touring in the area. It's comfortable and clean. The main receptionist is very helpful. Breakfast is OK. The hotel does have a car park although we found it really difficult to find. I haven't given the hotel full marks because the bathroom could have been much better. The shower is over a very high sided bath. The toilet roll is almost impossible to reach from the toilet!

"Not really modern"
GeorgeGii, 09 Septembre 2015

Good location for a nice walk around the town, but rooms are rather average so are other facilities. That is probably because dark colors used for the interior and lack of light in some areas make everything look a bit heavy. The receptionist was very nice & helpful

"Good location "
simon1100, 08 Septembre 2015

Stayed for two nights to visit Normandy landing sites, friendly helpful staff , clean room with comfy bed , good breakfast , located in the centre of Caen , only problem was finding the place by car , with one way streets it's very hard to get to, and parking is difficult , the hotel has under ground parking but was full when we arrived , but all in all a good hotel , will stay again

"Good breakfast, smallish rooms, not bad"
YulLu, 06 Septembre 2015

Renovated rooms in an older building. The lobby is pretty small, and the dining room is on the last floor. You work with the architecture you have. Nice choices for the breakfast (this is the only meal I had there). The room was renovated, it was small but comfy; and had recent decoration.

"Sound"
Stig H, 19 Août 2015

Everything we required was supplied by very accommodating staff, great location and comfortable quiet room. Although we enjoyed our stay we still believe it was A little over priced. Breakfast was average but again no complaints. We Would stay again.

"Quiet and comfortable"
GalFromNY10, 30 Juillet 2015

I have stayed in this hotel 3 or 4 times while accompanying a group to visit the Normandy WW II anding beaches. It's location, right in the center of Caen, can't be beat. There are plenty of shops and also a couple of department stores practically right out the front door. The staff members are very cordial and impart a true feeling of hospitality to the establishment. The beds are extremely comfortable and the rooms are among the quietest I've ever experienced. The bathroom fixtures all worked well, including a shower that didn't require an engineering degree to figure out how to operate it. The breakfast room is lovely, as are the breakfast offerings. On the down side, one of my colleagues had a room that probably hadn't been renovated recently. (Mine had, and it was really pleasant, although nothing spectacular.) This hotel would definitely benefit from a more efficient elevator. Although the existing one appears fairly new, it is extremely slow. All in all, the Hôtel Moderne is a good value for the price and it's in a wonderful location.

"Great location as base in Normandy area."
Joseph A, 24 Juillet 2015

We chose this hotel because it was in Caen and I had previously been to the Memorial Museum and wanted to stay in Caen. We were very happy with the location and hotel for easy commute to tourist areas and numerous restaurants within walking distance. We were not disappointed with the hotel: clean, very accommodating employees, has its own parking garage under hotel (although difficult to find and get in/out). The rooms are small, probably half the size of a Hilton Garden Inn in the US, but fairly common in France. Price was reasonable, especially considering this was one of the few rated hotels in Caen. Location is great for visiting the Beaches, the American Cemetery, and other D-Day stops. They offer a buffet breakfast and I thought it was excellent. It is a buffet with various proteins, cereal, breads, juice, etc.for 15 Euros. I would definitely stay here again if I returned.

"Not so Modern, but not bad"
Maconthemove, 22 Juillet 2015

The good points: nice people, great location in downtown mid the shopping and food, within walking distance some major places to visit (The castle/chateau, the Men's Abbey...), a good breakfast. On the downside: the room had seen better days, some of the rooms have odd shapes, the lift (it does have one and that is a plus) is very slow, the bar is small and you are better off going out. So, weighing the good and poor it gets a C which is average.

"Great Hotel in the middle of Caen France"
Darbyshire D, 22 Juillet 2015

My family of four just spent four day at the Best Western Hotel Moderne Caen in France. It is located in the middle of town in close proximity to shopping, tourist attractions and restaurants. I will highly recommend these accommodation to friends and family.

"hotel moderne"
Mobley C, 16 Juin 2015

excellent as always, good facilities, secure parking, right in the middle of town. Excellent choice if you do not like night crossings on the ferry, as this is 20 mins from the port. Excellent bars and resturants right on the doorstep. A bit difficult to navigate to even with satnav, but the map on the website is useful.

"Great place"
599jerryo, 13 Juin 2015

Very clean, comfortable with American many American conveniences. Located on a quiet street. Located in interesting city of Caen. Huge open air market on Sunday. Great location for touring Normandy. Staff at this hotel is EXCELlENT.

"Excellent staff"
leonardt104, 16 Mai 2015

No advice, everything was wonderful. Only problem was Saturday night because of loud noise from street from drunk Brits/Scots at nearby bar. Great location for visiting Chateau Ducal and nearby churches.

"Very Pleasant Hotel and Staff"
SwissKen, 01 Février 2015

Stayed here for three nights, while visiting Normandy. The hotel is a short walk from the Castle grounds. Beds comfortable, room quiet, nicely appointed, everything worked. Wi-Fi was fine. Breakfast buffet was extensive. All of the staff are pleasant, competent, cheerful, competent and welcoming. Alake, Melissa, Tiffane were delightful and Ms. Rafie is a wonderful hotel manager. I would stay there again, if I were going to Caen.

This small hotel was perfect for our 3 night stay during our visit to the Landing Beaches in Normandy. It has 40 rooms, 4 floors and the 5th floor was the breakfast area that looked out over the lovely city of Caen. The bed was wonderful! I even measured it, because it seemed wider than our King size bed at home - 7 inches wider! The breakfast was wonderful, scrambled eggs, meat and cheeses, cereals, fruit, pastries and juice. The staff at check- in was terrific - answered all our questions, gave directions, made dinner reservations and served us our wine during our little "happy hour" at the bar. Would definitely recommend this little hotel in this beautiful part of Normandy.

"Our Stay in Caen"

Our stay at Caen was great in part due to the staff and the Best Western Hotel Moderne. The room was clean, neat and well thought out. Their knowledge of the area and the city helped us with dining, shopping as well as touring the D Day Beaches. Caen was a wonderful surprise and their helpful staff made the stay much better than it might have been otherwise.

"Great price/quality"

Enjoyed the stay in Caen very much. The hotel personnel were helpful and pleasant. Rooms were immaculate and of a good size. Originally thought the breakfast 15Euro was a bit steep, but reconsidered - A very nice buffet and a convenient start to some busy days. I usually like to enjoy the surrounding cafe's when touring France, but many of the restaurants were not operational early in the morning.
