    « Not the best! »

Came here for afternoon tea which was booked via groupon. We decided to book the light, last minute. We arrived and was greeted and able to use the facilities. Then asked what time we want afternoon tea. We had paid extra for champagne but didn't receive any. When checking in, it took 3 attempts to get us in a room that had finished cleaning and was ready. The cleaners where very slow and rude. The restraint and bar was very expensive so chose to eat locally. Ramsbottom is a lovely place and I would return hoping there is improvement.

    « Gorgeous Afternoon Tea! »

Our party of 2 adults booked spa access and afternoon tea package via Groupon. We arrived at the hotel and were served immediately. Given towels and locker keys plus confirmed what time we would like afternoon tea. The changing rooms aren't the most up-to-date but it is an historic building so appreciate making changes may need consent etc. The sinks and hairdryers were up a few steps in the changing rooms. The pool was nice and warm and we enjoyed the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Pool is small but there were only 3 other people using facilities when we visited so that wasn't an issue. The crown jewel of this place is the afternoon tea. It was absolutely gorgeous. We were supposed to have prosecco included but we swopped that for soft drinks as we were driving. The scones were lovely, awesome quality sandwiches and loads of different desserts plus choc mints. So much that we asked to take some cakes home. The staff were super helpful and gave us a box. The restaurant where it was served was decorated nicely and overlooked the landscaped terraced garden. It has pictures of the local area from olden days and really comfortable leather chairs/settees. I would definitely go back again. The best afternoon tea I've ever had! Thank you.

« Stayed for business, would come again »

I stayed here for one night when on business and can recommend the place, the only issue I had is I found it tricky to find on a dark night. The postcode directs you up the hill DO NOT GO THIS WAY, you will see a small brown sign that points right up a little road - go this way and the Old Mill is up on the left. As for the hotel itself, the staff are what makes this place as they are very friendly and helpful and nothing seems to much trouble. I didnt get the chance to try out the leisure club but it looks good and the surrounding countryside looks amazing and its a shame I wasnt there long enough to explore.

« Tired hotel in need of some TLC and updating »

Decor is glum and tired and our shower was not good (Only hot water if pressure turned right down) and the soap/shower gel dispenser didn't work. Bed was v.uncomfortable and the pillows the cheapest I've come across in a hotel. The bar, breakfast and all the staff were excellent though.

    5
    « Cream Tea »

Gifted as a voucher the cream tea was nicely presented with a very attentive receptionist/waitress/bar person. Every credit to the young lady who assisted us and waited our table, with a ?Nothing is too much trouble' attitude. The food was fine but the service gets the rating.

This old mill takes a little finding but once u are there you will not be disappointed.fab old building that's assets have been utilised to the full .i was upgraded to a large room from the single i booked by delightfull reception staff .the room offered all u need and was traditional but spotless.there are leisure facilities with a indoor pool. « Positives outweigh the negatives »

Being from Ramsbottom I have been coming to the Old Mill for forty years and it has changed a lot but when I return for a visit I wouldn't stop anywhere else , location fantastic walk in to Rammy in five mins , plenty of car parking , super friendly smiling staff the rooms are a good size and plenty tea and coffee and biscuits in the brew drawer which is a fantastic invention it's genius . On this visit the wife wasn't happy dirty mirrors and plenty of dust and the room was looking a bit tired and in need of a lick of paint the radiator wants putting on level it was sending her OCD in to overdrive. That said on our next visit to Ramsbottom I will be stopping at the Old Mill as We like it ...

« Spa Day and Afternoon Tea »

Excellent service, very friendly staff who went out of their way to be helpful and great value for money. Would recommend it without hesitation. Very cosy bar seating area. Is doable by public transport (we did it from Stockport) if you want to make a day of it.

    « NICE LITTLE HIDE A WAY »

30 years ago I spent my wedding night here and so as 2017 was our 30 years anniversary we decided to return. The room we had was lovely. Most of the people where friendly and helpful. We had a couple of evening meals there and they were very nice. A couple of comments, the television was in a place where the post from the bed got in the way and you couldn"t watch it from the settee because it didn't turn and secondly we where on holiday and felt that breakfast was quite early, also the staff cleared away before you had a chance to get something else from the food table. However having said that breakfast was very nice.( Maybe when its holiday time the breakfast time could be altered to running a half an hour later?)

    « Sadly disappointed »

We stayed at this hotel 4 years ago and had a lovely time, hotel clean tidy, swimming pool inviting just a good quality 4 star hotel. SADLY our latest visit was a disappointment to say the least, we were put on the top floor, no lift, when I asked if there was one reception just said no and then continued to chat to each other, no offer of changing to a lower floor. We got to the room the heat was stifling, we turned the radiators off and the bathroom still boomed our heat so much that even though it snowed we had to have the windows open, on opening windows the net curtains where dirty the bottoms where black. One of the lights above the bed was hanging out of the ceiling, the dust on skirting boards looked like it being there for months. Around the bath had the old plastic strips. The carpet was stained and threadbare, we were so disappointed. We did report it to the receptionist no word of apology just we'll pass onto the cleaners. This hotel is seriously in need of a refurb, updating and a lot of TLC, if it wishes to keep its 3/4 stars. Also the chlorine from the pool was very strong just wandered if that was masking the smell in the bathrooms. Sorry won't be back again, unless you let us know when it's being updated.

    « Average hotel »

Reception staff at checking in was very good and helpful. However the room was in need of a revamp. Old looking. Shower in the morning was limited hot water. Room was clean though. Evening meal was very good and good service. Same for the breakfast Walls next to rooms are thin so you can hear the people in the room next door

« AWFUL I've turned down cleaner kennels for my dog! »

Been in 3 rooms in this hotel and all of which have been filthy! Huge cob webs on the walls and ceiling! Moved a set of draws looking for a socket and discovered a dirty carpet and skirting boards! every surface in the room dusty and unclean! Every picture frame thick with dust. Moved a chair to sit down only to discover it's been frequently vacuumed around! And for some months judging by the state of the carpet. Tea and coffee in a drawer with dirty cups and spoons. Bathroom full of mould. Pubic hair in the bathtub! Faulty shower that scalds you faulty toilet! Staff came in my room while I was out at work although I'm unsure as to why as all they did was straighten the duvet on the bed n put my dirty cups back in the drawer! Staff using mobile phones while on reception! Walls so thin the person in the next room woke me breaking wind!

    « Great Hotel »

I have stayed at this Hotel 3 times now. I love staying here. It's got a lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, comfy rooms. Great choice for Breakfast with lovely views. Room service 24 hours. Haven't eaten in the restaurant yet. Will do on my next stay. The swimming pool looks great. All in all 10/10.

    « Worst stay in a hotel »

First impressions of this hotel are very good. A nice drive up to a well laid out car park and a long ramp to the front doors leading to the reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful although they did seem to be blind to what surrounded them. We were given room 12 which is accessible after a long walk upstairs and along narrow twisting corridors that could do with redecoration. It was easily the smallest hotel room I have ever been in. It had two very small windows both of which were frosted glass and sealed so you could not open them or see out of them. In the room was a double bed with only about one foot either side of it and slightly more at the bottom of the bed. There was a radiator with paint peeling from it and the room had a strange smell. I thought they had converted a broom closet or halved a normal room. There was a small bathroom off of the room which looked clean enough and functional but to be honest, by the time I saw it I was heading back to reception with my bags. The young lady at reception seemed startled that the room was not up to scratch but did move us to room seven, which is in the same corridor but not so far along. This was a larger room but again in dire need of redecoration or at least a damn good clean, black mold in the bathroom stains on the carpet etc. By this time it was to late to move anywhere else and my wife and I decided to make the best of it. Breakfast the next morning was very nice, again the staff were very helpful and friendly. When we returned to the room that evening however it was apparent that the cleaners had spent about twenty seconds in our room with the bed squared up being the only obvious thing they had done. The bin in the room hadn't had the bag replaced for instance. The breakfast the next morning was the exact opposite of the previous day with greasy tasteless food and a poor selection. Obviously the chiefs day off. We naturally complained to the receptionist who gave us contact details for the general manager. I was pleased about an hour after check out to receive a phone call from the hotel manager who ran through our complaints and agreed to investigate them. He also refunded us for one night stay for our troubles. As i said, they seem to have got the people thing right.

    « Another great weekend »

Just spent another great weekend at the Old Mill. Rooms are comfortable and adequately furnished. We were in a room above the pool so room was very warm. The staff here are very friendly and eager to help. Pool was okay. Steam room and Sauna were excellent. Would recommend the breakfast as well. Enjoyed our stay and will be back again.

« Poor services poor room »

Stayed one night in a room with broken light, shower control extremely stiff, tv remote control ineffective, and the tea-coffee tray hidden in a drawer - when i pulled it out everything fell off. No lift in a hotel which has a lot of stairs. At breakfast a waitress finally arrived, i asked for porridge, it took ages to arrive, no one asked for my cooked breakfast preference and after 20 minutes i left. The receptionist did give me a partial refund for all this - i should think so, but i see from trip advisor that if you book direct with this hotel it costs £20+ more than if i booked on the internet.... crazy. I wont be going again.

    « Well worth a visit! »

Lovely hotel and fantastic walks in Ramsbottom. Very friendly staff and local people very warming. Quaint little village with fab coffee shops! Visit to the chocolate shop is a must! And also the tap and grind - wow the drinking chocolate and shortbread is yummy!! Definitely visit again. The only downside is the pool was extremely cold in the Old Mill hotel.

    « Appalling Christmas Dinner »

Booked a family Christmas dinner at the Old Mill months in advance and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately what should have been a lovely festive treat was ruined by the appalling standard of the food, it was truly awful. The staff seemed totally disinterested in their customers even when a complaint was made. We didn't see anyone who looked like a senior staff member which on Christmas day is a sign of bad management. Will not be visiting the Old Mill again and I advise others to do the same.

    « Christmas Day Treat »

Came here with the family for Christmas Day Lunch. The whole experience was great. Staff where really pleasant and accommodating despite working on Christmas Day! Food was top notch. First time we have eaten out for our Christmas Lunch but will definitely be back here next year. Didn't stay over so can't comment on the hotel but will give that a try in the near future.

« Christmas Break, definitely returning next year »

After a long drive, myself and my husband arrived at the hotel earlier than the check in time, and was greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who was able to check us into the room early without any hassle. Once we got into our room, it was clean and a lot more spacious than expected, the bathroom was nice and clean and we also made good use of the tea and coffee facilities. We stayed over Christmas Eve and used the pool facilities in the afternoon. The jacuzzi and steam room were lovely to relax in after our long drive from Devon. Later on we went up to the bar and had a couple of drinks in the lounge, both my husband and i felt so relaxed whilst we enjoyed our glasses of wine, or two. Christmas Day morning we had a full English breakfast brought to our room by a lovely lady called Vanessa. After our breakfast we went for a walk to the lakes at the bottom of the road and up to holcombe hill. We booked a table for Christmas Lunch at half 3 and when we arrived in the restaurant we was seated straight away by a friendly blonde girl. The atmosphere was very festive and the other guests were very friendly too. Overall the food was amazing, it was quick service and you got plenty for the price. Thank you so much for making our Christmas stay so special! We will definitely be returning next year.

    « Christmas dinner »

Absolutely disappointed in this place. Was here with family and friends for Christmas dinner, well it was meant to be Christmas dinner. The staff weren't very efficient, didn't care attitude. There didn't appear to be a senior member off staff on duty neither which was very poor. Will definitely not be visting this place again.

« Worst Christmas Dinner Ever »

Went here for Christmas dinner with a party of 16, well at least that's what we thought it was meant to be. They must have spent all the Christmas budget on the glossy advertisement leaflets so there was nothing left for anything else. The staff were under trained and seemingly deaf. Constantly messing up orders and all round bad service. After getting asked ?who's having turkey?? for the 5th time by yet a different member of staff, we told them we were all vegetarians only for the waiter to shove a turkey dinner in front of us. The simplest question was met by a rabbit in the headlights reaction. Getting asked the same questions by each member of staff quickly killed any remaining festive mood that might have been left. Where do I start with the meal? You have to really try hard to mess up what's basically a roast dinner with turkey. Out of all 16 people, not one finished their meal. If you were lucky to get a carrot (yes 1 if you're lucky) they were roasted to within an inch of their life. Sprouts clearly frozen and barely defrosted. Meat terrible quality. No Yorkshire puddings. Vegetarian nut roast dry and cold. No gravy unless you asked for it and then it was poured on by the kitchen staff. One person asked for no gravy. They received a meal with gravy and had to wait 15 mins for one without. Gravy should be placed in a dish in the middle of the table for people to add to their taste. Same with cranberry sauce which had to be requested and even then only enough for one spoonful came. You really get the impression they were cutting costs as much as possible. It's hard to get it so wrong without deliberately trying too. We were glad to leave. Terrible experience. Avoid.

    « A sweet pre-Christmas break »

Although this hotel is within very easy walking distance of Ramsbottom, it feels like it is very rural. It looked magical when we arrived, with the twinkling fairy lights in the snow. You could see the gorgeous Xmas trees from the windows. It looked so inviting. Our room was small, but very clean, and had every thing we needed. There was a problem with the radiator, but they gave us a heater and promptly fixed it. After a swim, steam and soak in the spa, we had dinner in the restaurant. Normally we never eat in, but we were tired. The menu was reasonable, international fare, and food nicely prepared. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. We were travelling with Yuri, our small dog, and he was made to feel very welcome.

    « A weekend away! »

Needed a hotel for a weekend wedding, and this hotel was picked mainly for its convenience and suitability, we arrived late in the evening and check in was very easy and informative. The Spa was very nice and a perfect welcome after a long time travelling. The wedding was lovely and the hotel was in a beautiful location, the staff are absolutely fantastic here and nothing was too much to ask, really a fantastic weekend!!

« Above average for Best Western »

Midweek overnight stop and pleasantly surprised by the quiet central location. Welcoming friendly staff and great pool facilities (although I didn't have time to use them) and function room (unused tonight thankfully). Comfortable rooms although the cleaning needs improvement, and the decor updating like the artex ceilings, with added mould in the bathroom, but good hot water pressure for bath or shower always a bonus. Great dinner and breakfast although menus not in rooms. Understaffed when busy considering it was fully booked. Overall I would recommend and would return.

    « Small town Gem »

This hotel is tucked away in the heart of Ramsbottom in Lancashire. As a local engineering company we need to accommodate staff, clients and consultants on a regular basis. We have found this hotel to have a surprisingly wide range of facilities including an indoor Pool, a well equipped Fitness Centre and easy-access Wi-Fi. If leisure is your reason to stay then the grounds are wonderful and the locale is only a short drive or walk to rolling hills and scenic views. We are really happy with our choice of preferred hotel and would recommend The Old Mill to any Company looking to book in guests for leisure or Business.

    « No change unfortunately »

I last stayed here last year and found that the rooms were in need of some modernisation, especially after staying in the Best Western Derwent earlier in the week which was very modern. Unfortunately the room was in need of modernisation, there was no headboard in room 2, the walls very simple and painted over all the bumps- and around the desk there was a wire exposed -ironically there was also a room maintenance request! Surely someone could see this? The bathroom was OK but not the best again slightly old fashioned. Tea and coffee provided but only small cups- in this day and age come on where are the mugs? Nearby rooms were slammed shut - no buffering like some other chains- could this be fixed with better doors? All in all, it really could do with modernising. The hotel is in a great area and ace for the village what a pity its like it is currently.

    « A mixed bag. »

Stayed here with a friend recently in a twin room on the 2nd floor. Lovely room. Perfect for 2. Even had a bath. The shower however, well it had water coming out of it but at no great speed or push. The beds were very comfy and the t.v was a good size. We headed down to the pool about 7pm. All looked ok but then we went in the steam room - I can't pin point the exact smell but it stank. This was not a menthol environment and the floor was very dirty. The Jacuzzi was fab - able to activate it ourselves was good but being stared at by smokers outside and people coming into the hotel wasn't ideal. At all. A quick fix would be some blinds! We left the pool for a shower. We weren't expecting the arctic blast that reigned down on us. No shower. Back up to our toasty warm room. Good night's sleep and looking forward to breakfast . Staff again were lovely, breakfast not so much. Good selection on the continental bit but no croissants/rolls. We ordered the full breakfast but it came without the black pudding. It was also heavily microwaved and dry. Overall the staff are an absolute credit to the hotel and clearly do the best they can with what they have. The hotel is in need of some tlc and a good clean in the pool area.

    « Business Trip »

Stayed here a couple of times with work, staff are always so lovely, always get a lovely greeting from the reception team. More often than not i will have breakfast in the morning also, full English breakfast is delicious! Sometimes i will stay in and have an evening meal, otherwise i have a stroll down into the centre of Ramsbottom where there's loads of nice restaurants/pubs/bars, really friendly area. Bedrooms are brilliant, tea and coffee facilities are a god send first thing in the morning! Rooms are a good size, clean, have an en suite and the beds are very comfy. Leisure facilities are great, it's nice to go and relax in the jacuzzi after a long day at work.

« Nice, cosy hotel with great staff. »

We enjoyed our two nights here. Not the easiest to find, but once there, plenty of parking, comfy rooms, really well lit too which is a bonus, and lovely friendly staff. It's an old mill so there's no lift and things creak a bit, but that's part of the charm. The bar food was good and reasonably priced, and the breakfasts were excellent. They'd run out of kippers but I think they gave me double of everything else to make up! Only a 5 minute stroll into town (10 on the way back as it's all uphill!). The shower needs to be more powerful, it dribbled a lot, and the bathroom does need updating, but overall it was very good value.

« Nice and convenient for the town »

I stayed two nights for work recently. On the old side externally which is perfectly ok but also needs a bit of work in the rooms as others have mentioned. No lift so travel light. I was the only person at breakfast on day and got a fantastic cooked breakfast. Plenty of parking outside. I didn't use all the facilities and all the staff were very friendly and helpful.A very short stroll to the town so convenient for work.

    « Tidy little getaway »

We stayed in Ramsbottom for two nights during the Head for the Hills festival. The hotel was a pleasant walk from the venue, past the mill pond and past the rummage shops in the town centre. The hotel itself is clean and tidy with exceptionally welcoming staff. The breakfasts were decent, with the usual choice of cooked or continental buffet. We ahd a family room which was surprisingly spacious and easily accomodated our family of four, even with the additional bed. There's a cheeky little pool too, though we didn't get chance to try it out. We'll most certainly be back for next year's festival!

    « Family Visiting »

Convenient Location for us when visiting family in Lancashire / Manchester . Quiet Location and even when the hotel was busy with functions wasn't disturbed by any noise. Couple of minor hiccups with room service on one night of our stay but politely and quickly rectified by the staff team . Sat Nav took us to a nearby pub but the hotel is signposted. The staff team are polite and attentive , evening meals use quality cooked food . Breakfast relaxed and suited to whatever your appetite is and freshly cooked. Well worth a visit.

Bedroom was clean and perfectly adequate. Look forward to another visit in the future! .

    « a brief but pleasant stay »

Myself and my wife Susan recently stayed here for one night on a bed & breakfast basis. We were attending a wedding in the area which started at 1.00 pm , and meant we were unable to get into our room ( 2.00 pm is the earliest ) , we were however able to leave our bags at reception who said they would take them up to our room later , which they duly did. We returned to the hotel late at night having been out most of the day , and were pleased to find very comfortable beds which gave us both a good nights sleep . There were also tea and coffee making facilities ( hidden in a drawer ) which we eventually found and used in the morning before going down to breakfast . On the subject of breakfast it was taken in a nice spacious room and when we sat down we had a brilliant view of the grounds and surrounding area. The breakfast itself was excellent with the usual starters of fruit juice and cereal followed by a full english , which was warm and filling , a lovely way to start the day . The usual tea and coffee plus toast were also available , all in all a lovely breakfast. We had the opportunity to use the pool and spa facilities, which on this occasion we did not take advantage of , although the pool did look very inviting. Our room itself was more than adequate for our needs , and whilst a room at the front of the hotel would have suited us better , purely because of the views , we were quite happy with the room given to us. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old Mill , felt if offered good value for money and would be happy to stay there again if in the area.

« Perfect Location and Lovely Grounds »

We stayed here for our wedding and it was amazing, the hotel has a pool, Jacuzzi and a lovely spa, the gardens are amazing with lake and little bridges and lovely views and place for photos. the room was massive with a lovely comfy bed and plenty of room to move about, dressing table , couch and separate large bathroom. Best part of this hotel is the staff especially Caroline on reception who is so welcoming and can not do enough to help you and make you feel welcome.

    « Spa day/afternoon tea »

The Management especially Caroline, made our day. The Spa experience was tainted by badly behaved guests with no respect. The Hotel went above and beyond to ensure our treat was not maligned. We were offered alternatives, which was amazing, extreme consideration to my very elderly guest and additional Spa complimentary use offered, which i was grateful for. Well done to the Staff at the Old Mill exceptional Customer Service, nothing was too much trouble.

Went on a groupon deal, the building was very old and dated but rooms were clean and comfortable. No lift in the building it was like a maze trying to find your way round would be no good for someone with limited mobility, restaurant was very quiet no atmosphere or music playing seemed very strange but food was excellant but small portions was still hungry after the meal. Staff also very friendly. Leisure facilities were adequete although there were swimming lessons at the time which limited availability for guests, pool is on the small side had 2 jacuzzis which was great. Also wifi would not connect on the ground floor which is not good!!

« Little Tired but nice Staff! »

Stayed here for 3 nights midweek. Good location 5 mins from town centre or £2 taxi ride if you don't want to walk back up the hill! Room was OK but on 3rd floor with no lift. Clean and tidy but got very hot at night and could have done with some sort of air conditioning. Bathroom small but adequate with shower over bath which was a dribble rather than a shower. Breakfast was good and not a hot buffet. Plenty of choice and very pleasant staff. Plenty of car parking but did not use pool or spa but seemed quite busy. Unfortunately forgot to service our room first day but were very sorry and gave me a discount to make up! There don't seem to be many staff around and getting a drink was a challenge sometimes. Could do with a little TLC but comfortable and much better than last hotel (Grant) I stayed in at Ramsbottom! Would definitely return.

    « Relaxing night away »

Very Pleasant Location, Very Quiet and a short walk from the town. All Staff were friendly and helpful and made our stay great. Our room was clean, and spacious and very comfortable. Had a lovely relax in the pool and jacuzzi! And our evening meal was very tasty and large portions! Breakfast was plentiful and we will most certainly be visiting again!

« Tired run down Hotel - Under staffed - lack of information ! »

I went for my 21st Anniversary and upgraded to the Bridal Suite a Sunday and Monday. Firstly the only saving grace in all this is the staff are all very friendly especially Caroline on reception and helpful. They were also very few ? I felt awful asking for some ice in the room and the lady on reception had to climb the stairs and leave reception to come up with it. We arrived early as advised we could use the pool etc. When we parked and I popped in to reception it was about 11am on the Sunday 23rd July 2017, there were a lot of people leaving from the wedding that had been on the night before. This was obvious due to the glasses, fag ends, confetti, cigar ends, etc, all around the outside of the hotel and grounds, that were finally removed the next day . It is confusing having a leisure receptionist stood in a hoody, and then going the other receptionist about a stay question. The pool changing rooms I had a nightmare with the drop down wooden seat in the cubicle , it broke and I could not fix it ( this happened again the next day) . The next day I used the first cubicle and shared it with lumps of hair and had no hot water, I had to gather my wet clothes as door was close to the shower and move to another cubicle. In the changing rooms the side of the wall was coming away and a big hole was there ? The pool area was not like the photos on the web site, The pool was very tired around the edges with sand and dirt in the corner of the pool and the Jacuzzi. There was an empty water bottle and a plaster on the floor ( the plaster was still there the next day. With what looked like yellow stains around the pool and broken cement. The Jacuzzi should have steps and is very dangerous for access, and with a bad back it was painful as I slipped three times. As the water is so murky with the stained sides you can't see the steps inside. On the Monday when we used it we sat for ages waiting for it to start, we asked a member of staff who pointed and pressed the button to start it ( NO SIGN ) ! There was a family using it also on the Sunday with their 3 kids who kept getting in and out of it on their own, the sign for that is tiny and on the side Adults Only ! I'm claustrophobic and braved the sauna but could not see through the glass as dirty and water staine , I lasted 1 minute. The water outside the steam room and sauna was muddy. We saw a lady cleaning on the Monday it was just anything silver metal in there ? I didn't see costume dryer till the Monday, which is a great idea if you find it as my husband did by mistake. I was aware there was no lift from reviews, when we went to the room my first impression was the four poster bed which was lovely ( squeaked though ? ) . The room was big and was going to order room service but there is no table to sit and eat it on ! I sat at the desk and found a fancy hair grip from the wedding and what looked like food under the desk. The TV sticks out from the wall and in the night I nearly caught my head on in it ? The Bathroom was clean but :- The Hot tap did not switch off, you had to really tighten it The Side of the bath felt like it was coming off Behind the door you could see where the mop had not been used Marks behind loo ( stains ) Toilet brush holder metal rusty marks on it as old Around the bath and taps stained and old The tiles had not been cleaned and were water stained Toilet paper rough and cheap The robes needed a bit comfort conditioner I am a very tidy person and when you go away you don't expect the bathroom to be like this and your own better ? The Meal and bar , well to start you have to press a buzzer to be served on the bar ? I think the lady on the bar was also the same lady that served us in the restaurant. We sat in that area before the meal and as we walked in the room 5pm was covered with pots from lunch time and were removed by the above lady later on. I picked up a large pearl of the floor the waitress said oh that's from the wedding yesterday ? The room was very dark no lights on a couple of side light? But as sat by window it so wasn't a problem. There were three couples in the dining room and I had a starter which was lovely, the dressing on the salad was really nice, there was a massive wait on the main course but we were not bothered. When it came it looked and tasted lovely but was luke warm and some cold. We were hungry and I wasn't going to complain as didn't want spoil meal. But the food sat like a brick on my tummy as not hot and I was up in the night because if it. The breakfast was nice, the fruit on a platter on the main table looked old and very dried up in parts? The lady that served us was lovely and I enjoyed the breakfast apart from the oil on my plate from the bacon ( I always have eggs on a side plate as I hate this ) I wiped it off. No air conditioning - I had to open the window as very stuffy in the middle of the night ? There was bed sete in the Bridal suite which I thought was odd to have anyway I dropped something behind it and that had not been moved for a while !! They didn't charge me for the Suite and I have been told these comment will be taken on board ? Very disappointed, taken time off work and traveled up for a special occasion, regretted booking here

    « Wedding »

My partner and I stayed in room 22 and my parents in room 23. Too warm and stuffy, no air conditioning which I believe needs to definitely be installed all year round as we could barely sleep in the heat. This may have something to do with being near the swimming pool/sauna? As bridesmaid for my sisters wedding and parents of the bride I thought we may have been put in rooms where there would be no chance of anything being negative as the whole wedding took place there. Other than that no complaints, lovely little location, rooms clean and the breakfast was nice with a good choice including something for vegetarians. Would stay again but in a different room!

    « Overnight stay »

We booked 2 rooms at the Old Mill Hotel for 4 adults. We were attending a wedding nearby. Check in was 2pm but we had to be out by 2 in order to be in time for the wedding. Arrived at 1 30 and explained our dilemma at reception. The duty receptionist immediately checked to see if our rooms were ready ( which they were) so we were able to get changed and on our way on time. The room was a decent size, a little warm but once we opened the window it was fine. Bathroom was immaculate. We had a free breakfast (special offer with room) Delicious and served to us off the menu. Staff were excellent. Would recommend this hotel for a short break.

Very enjoyable stay! We have been here several time on offers via the Internet. Keep the offers coming and we will be back!!!! Ramsbottom is a 5 minute walk away and is a lovely little town with steam trains passing through.

    « Pleasant visit »

We stayed for one night, all members of staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and more than willing to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The room we had was large and well furnished, food was well presented and good value for money.which We knew the hotel has a pool and jacuzzi very easily accessed and the sauna and steam room being at the side of the pool with no added charge was a really pleasant surprise. Very welcome and relaxing after a long drive. Follow the brown hotel signs from Ramsbottom not the sat nav directions - ours tried to take us in from what amounted to virtually a footpath.

« Beautiful location and excellent, helpful staff »

Although a little difficult to find using the SatNav this was a lovely hotel with super friendly staff. The receptionist had no problem with my request to look after my large bag for a while after the normal check-out time and before I got picked up (and helped me carry the bag to my room when I arrived too). The sauna and steam room were great and the room was nice and clean and I had beautiful views too. The hotel is set in a really idyllic location.

    « Wouldn't go back »

While the staff are great and welcoming it stops there unfortunately , room 21 is a sauna w no air conditioning as just above pool. The pool and other facilities need a good clean , the food was slow and poor, how can you run out of steak ??! Breakfast was nothing special with bacon only cooked on one side and black pudding dry, only the waitress made it pleasant , sorry but overall not great at all.

    « Perfect »

Received a very warm welcome after getting completely lost finding the hotel. Receptionist was lovely and showed excellent customer service. Room was very comfortable with everything we needed including iron, hairdryer and toiletries. Ate in restaurant for evening meal and breakfast and couldn't fault the food. All in all a lovely overnight stay. Thanks to all the staff... you are all lovely, hardworking and extremely helpful. We will return

« Nice Enough, relaxed environment including the staff »

Ok so the place looks a bit soulless from the outside but is actually ok once you get in there. I had the smallest room known to man a light year away from the reception but I booked last minute so I cant complain. Bed was comfy and room clean. The Breakfast was very good, served with a smile and options if you are Gluten Free. Upon asking for Gluten free Toast the lovely lady serving me decided to yell across the room "This Gent Wants Gluten Free Toast" I'm not shy but still might have been unsettling for some. The gym was well equipped but a little untidy, doesn't bother me as I am there to exercise but others might not dig it so much. The pool and sauna etc. were very good. Not too busy on a Sat Morning and very clean. I think I may have left my watch in the changing room and I asked the hotel to check. They were going to call me back once they checked with housekeeping but still waiting phone call. Overall not to bad. Think I may have paid over the odds but it was last minute.

    « Sleeping beauty »

I really, really want to write a top review about the Best Western Old Mill Hotel. It's situated in the heart of a lovely old stone built Lancashire Town, that is undoubtedly as attractive in it's ruggedness as the surrounding hills are for their majestic scenery. The first question that springs to my mind, when thinking about my stay here is; Best Western - have you forgotten you have a hotel here? The hotel ticks many boxes. It's location is perfect. Ample car parking. A stones throw from the town centre, yet set in seemingly secluded and idyllic grounds, with immaculately kept gardens. From the outside the hotel oozes charm and initially on walking into the reception the hotel looks well kept. I'm welcomed immediately by a chap behind the reception desk, with a cheery enough demenour, but he's slouched in his chair in his best trackie bottoms. Put a suit on, or at least something smart casual and stand up when guests enter please!!! Booking in went smoothly and we were told where our room was. The 'Platinum' suite, room 38. It's true that there is no lift in the building and although I don't find stairs troubling and indeed an asset to my keep fit programme, there are people who might want to avoid the trudge up there. Best Western!!- Lift??? Now I wish I'd visited the bar and restaurant, before I went to my room. In fact we'll go there first, because I really do want to be upbeat about this hotel. So, the bar and restaurant adjoin each other and it's clear they have been refurbished recently. They are both, light, airy, contemporary and very welcoming rooms in which to either chill out or take a meal. I ate in the restaurant on my first evening with my wife and the food could not have been nicer. Top class. The staff who attended us were always polite, professional and attentive and I give kudos particularly to the two lovely ladies who serve breakfast, as they were most welcoming. The toilet facilites were very clean and although I didn't see the rooms in that part of the hotel, the corridors looked clean and modern. During the day the bar seemed to be unmanned, so there was a novel doorbell on a board with a notice, which seems to work quite well and is usually answered promptly. However on a slight downer, the hotel appears to be run on a skeleton staff and when we took drinks in the afternoon and returned some two hours later, our earlier empties were still on the bar where we had left them. I was drinking a bottled beer of which there were approximately eight and I got through those between Thursday evening and Saturday and they were never restocked. In fact I didn't see anything restocked at all. We did even have a barman at one point who didn't seem to know what Disaronno is and I had to do pointing at the bottle gestures. The room; The Platinum suite. A large room with a endless plain brown carpet, bland decor, a heavy artex ceiling (it was popular in the 70's right?) and a large ensuite. There is a four poster bed with purple netting around it. I say a four poster. It's more like a bed with some trellis knocked up. The bathroom looks like a bad planning disaster from a discount shed in the 1970's again, discount paper thin toilet roll but hey I'm being picky here. Everything was in place, plenty of decent furniture, mirrors, hair dryer, wifi that works well, plenty of hot water, a good powerful shower, flat screen tv and a good comfi sofa. But in all honesty, it's a basic room, so Best Western, you really do need to drop the 'Platinum' joke. Again on the plus side, there is a large ground floor swimming pool and jacussi, which look inviting and well kept and there is also a leisure/fitness centre, although I didn't get time to sample these. This is basically a very good hotel, but it seems to be in slumber, or denial or something. It has everything, the staff are very good, lovely, polite, professional. I would definitely stay here again. In fact as hootels go in Ramsbottom it has to be the best, if not only for it's location and gardens. There are other choices, more modern, more contemporary, but they miss out little points like they're next to a busy road, or a mile out of town etc. The Old Mill has so much going for it, yet I just got the impression it need a bit of a kick up the backside to wake it up again. Come on Best Western, find a good interior designer, decorator and support the staff you have here and realise the full potential of this sleeping beauty.

« Decent venue for a good nights sleep »

I attended a wedding nearby and stayed in the Old Mill Hotel for one night. The rooms were very simple but well maintained and clean. The decor is perhaps a little dated but it didn't bother me. It was nice and quiet where we were, and we had the windows opened wide as it was a warm day. Breakfast in the morning was the standard English breakfast, but not too greasy and exactly what you need to start the day. There was ample parking on the day we went.

    « Wedding »

Well this was the venue chosen by my stepson & my new Daughter in law . The hotel is set back from a main road which is good.On arrival we gathered in foyer. It was a little small bit fine. The bar is upstairs with the rooms on same level. Some rooms are a few steps up as well .The wedding service was in the Cheshire suite. The service was first class & beautiful . The staff were fantastic. The wedding breakfast was served the food was warm . Starters were nice I enjoyed them .The main meal was decent I thought. The pudding was fine. We then had the room cleared so we could have the party at night. The dance floor was put down for evening Shenaigians . The evening buffet was great really . We all had a great time.At the end of the day it is about two people becoming one . It is their special day & rightly so .The only downside is that I personally would install a lift . A lot of our party had prams with young children . BUT I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE HOTEL FOR MAKING THE WEDDING SPECIAL . Thank you you all work so hard .

« Wedding reception and stayover »

A bit disappointed as to the layout for guests. If there is a function on at the same time of your stay everyone is in the same room sharing the only bar. Not ideal for a weekend break. Staff were very nice though and helpful.

    « Does the job! »

Not the easiest hotel to find, especially if coming over the moors, but worth it when you arrive. Nice welcome, rooms ok, but a bit hot on a muggy spring day. Bar food tasty, well cooked and good value. An ok stopping off point and relatively good value.

« Good for what it is. »

Could do with some TLC. Corridor carpets need cleaning. My room was decent enough however walls extremely thin. Could hear every word of conversations taking place in next room and at 1.30 am that's not good.

    « Lovely hotel »

My daughter and I stayed at the old mill last night. Lovely room. Excellent service from very professional friendly staff. Loved the garden area where we sat in the sun on a swing bench. Leisure facilities good. Food excellent. Only fault was no chef for breakfast but staff there were great and refunded. Can't be helped. I'd go back we had a lovely time.

« warm welcome for business meeting »

Having just returned from a pre-arranged meeting today at this establishment I found the initial phone contact querying the facilities was impressive, and the welcome and facilities made available were excellent. It was my first contact with the hotel and Caroline was very efficient and made us very welcome. I will use again in the future when arranging any further business meetings or conferences.

    « Dated »

Well located in Ramsbottom for those wanting to visit the area and in particular the steam railway, plenty of on site parking. The hotel looks tired and the room I stayed in, 32, suffered from two problems, no heating and a shower which failed to deliver any useful amount of water....hot or cold. I should have mentioned it on checking out but to be honest I am not sure what that would have achieved. Tip: check out the shower before accepting the room

    « Holidaytrip »

Nice hotel, very good breakfast with options of the menu available without any extra costs. The room needs a bit an update and there is not much water coming out from the shower. Yorkshire national park takes only almost one hour and is very nice.

    « Superb stay »

What can I say ,I've seen some reviews on here for this hotel and they were not very complimentary ,let's just say they must have stayed somewhere else because me and my fiancée have just had a lovely stay here ,very friendly staff on check in lovely room with tea coffee tv,comfy bed and lovely and clean, the food especially the evening meal was superb one of the best meals we have ever had so tasty along with a lovely bottle of rose wine and we were served by a waiter/barman named Connor and he made the meal and drink very nice and comfortable and was very friendly, the breakfast was also very nice all u could ask for ,cereal ,fruit yogurt ,full cooked breakfast friendly staff, then there was the leisure club facilities we didn't use the gym but the pool ,jacuzzi ,steam room and sauna all so nice to have available and we really enjoyed using them,so don't be put off by bad reviews on this hotel ,we had a really nice stay and a good time.

    « Spa Day - a lovely surprise »

We booked a spa day with tea at the hotel and had no idea what to expect. It was a pleasant surprise to find this hidden gem in a picturesque setting. Some refurbishment was going on but overall the hotel has the comfy and homely character which many corporate chains lack. We found the pool, steam room and sauna were well maintained and adequate for the size of the hotel. Customer service excellent - it is gratifying to feel as though your comfort and pleasure are a priority! The staff are attentive and friendly. Ramsbottom is really quaint and a home to several busy coffee shops and other places to get a bite to eat. The site of a majestic steam train huffing and puffing through the village was another surprise. Due to its size and location of the hotel would make it an ideal intimate wedding venue or somewhere to meet up with family and friends.

    4
« Worth finding this hotel »

Good small hotel although a bit out of the way. It has a pool and sauna which are small but good, breakfast is always very good but walk round the end of the road for a pub with a good pint rather than the hotel waiting room type bar with a bell if you want served.

    « Pre Marathon Stay »

Stayed here with the family for one night in preparation for the Manchester marathon the next morning. We had no regrets. We checked in at approx 7pm, it was busy due to a private party, but nothing to worry us (although we were right next to the function hall stairs). And as others have said there are no lifts. Both rooms were clean and tidy and very spacious, tea and coffee as you'd expect. We only stayed in this hotel because it was in a village outside of Manchester (so no bumped up prices due to the marathon!), and also because of the pool/spa etc. This was great - clean and tidy and for a while we were the only ones using it. Would we stay again? Maybe. It is quite a way from Manchester, but if like us you dont mind travelling and like a bit of peace and quiet this hotel is fine. Only thing is, its very hard to find!

« Not great but not bad. »

Chef was ill on my one night stay so it was bar meals only. promised chicken & mushroom pie of the day turned out to be chicken & leek. Breakfast fried egg was hard & the black pudding cremated, sausage required a chainsaw to cut. Was told the chef had burnt all the pastries so a few guests were not too pleased. Found the bed too soft & woke with a bad back. Lovely setting & very clean.

    « Average at best »

I recently visited here with my mum for her birthday. we had purchased a groupon spa day & rang before hand to book in. we were told on the phone that robes would be provided on arrival, however when we got there we found this wasn't the case & they aren't provided. disappointing as we could of taken our own and had been promised they would be available. I have never been to a spa where robes aren't provided, changing rooms were dreadful, dirty and smelt strongly of mould. paint was chipped off the walls, a very poor standard. the pool area wasn't much, the pool looked like it needed a goods clean, hardly any loungers round the pool side. the afternoon tea was ok, the waiter was really helpful with our dietary requirements. however the bread was stale, had a tiny amount of filling on each sandwich, cakes tasted like they had been frozen. after spending a further £80 on drinks and more food, we left really disappointed. I wouldn't return here and a referb is definitely required.

« Peaceful hotel in lovely setting »

Friendly staff particularly the night manager. Had top floor room with excellent view. Didn't use pool etc due to busy 'schedule' but each time we went past there were plenty of people using it & it looked clean. Breakfast very good. Took train to Bury - very scenic & Bury centre was well worth the visit.

    « Value stay. »

Can't really say too much as I only stayed for one night bed and breakfast, hence the "average" comment. The leisure facilities looked nice but I didn't have chance to try them. It could do with better signage as it was quite difficult to find at night, the satnav takes you past the road that the hotel is located on.

« Mixed bag, great staff, food terrible, leisure club average »

For the price was ok for a one night stop for family of four. Food was poor- stuffed chicken was burnt and ridiculously expensive (we live in Cotswolds and we're shocked at price!) - do not eat there. We didn't complain at the time because staff were so nice. We all went to use pool and hot tub, even though we were the only ones in there they told the children (who were loving it) that the hot tub was for adults only - possibly fair enough if there were other adults in there but as it was only us was irritating. Not a family friendly hotel if children can't use all the facilities. Cobwebs in room as well.

This is the second time we have stayed here with my wife and 4 year old daughter. My little girl loves it as she can swim in the pool ,me and my wife enjoy the spa facilities. The hotel itself is only a stones throw away from Ramsbottom centre were there are some fantastic places to eat . The breakfast in the hotel is definitely worth getting up for , the hotel staff are fantastic they are so helpful and friendly. Basically in my opinion for the money you can't go wrong and we will be returning again for another relaxing stay .????

    « DO NOT GO »

Do not go to this hotel. this is not coming from a spoilt teaveller. first the drive way is dark and hard to find. the room door bangs close. it smells like chlorine from the pool. the walls in the gym are cracked. the rim of the toilett had a poop stain on it. the bathtub is cracked. there is hair in the sink. floors are not vacuumed properly. it feels as if the person inroom next to mine was sleeping in the same room I was in. a drunk person falls into my room after banging at the door like a maniac. is that enough!?

    « Great value break »

We went on a Sunday Spa break on a Wowcher deal. Arriving a little early Rebecca on reception went out of her way to find us a room that was prepared. After a walk round town we took advantage of the spa. The Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were great, the pool could do with a little TLC.( a small point), Food was excellent value and very tasty. The same can be said for Breakfast. Especially after an early morning swim and Jacuzzi. Overall a good relaxing break with great, friendly and helpful service throughout. Special mention for Rebecca for going out of her way to make us welcome.

    « Well worth a visit »

My wife and I are addicted to little mini breaks all over the country and we must have visited around 10-15 this year alone. These "tasters" are always good value and give you an idea where you would like to go back to - and where to avoid. With this in mind we visited the 3-star Best Western Old Mill Hotel owned by the Lavender Group in Ramsbottom. The room, modern bathroom, complimentary spa, pool and gym, food and service were very good indeed especially for a 3-star hotel. Free Wi-Fi too. We booked through Living Social who were offering a Sunday night stay, 2-course dinner (man-sized portions!) with a quarter bottle of Prosecco for just £69 which is an absolute steal.

« Lovely Setting with excellent food and service »

We had an overnight stay here whilst attending an event nearby. Overall we had a lovely stay. The room was spacious clean and comfortable. We had an excellent meal at night. The breakfast in the morning was plentiful well cooked and enjoyable. The staff were all pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately we didnt have time to try the pool but the view from the reception looked inviting. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews. Only minor mishap was a mistake on our final bill which was quickly rectified.

    « what a shame »

This little gem in its beautiful setting has comfortable rooms good food and lovely helpful staff BUT it had no facilities at all for disabled travelers. l booked a twin room and on arrival was shocked to be told there were no ground floor rooms the first floor dining room was only reached by two sets of stairs and there were no disabled adapted bathrooms. l hadn't told the Hotel l was disabled it's not ever been an issue in other places.l was so upset to realise that on a winters night after 5 hours traveling l couldn't easily claim my room have a shower and relax over a drink whilst looking forward to a good meal. The staff were very sympathetic they moved my room to a lower floor (less stairs) and with the help of my daughter we managed to access the room and use the dining room.l sometimes use a wheelchair as l have limited mobility but on this occasion l was traveling with my wheeled walking frame(which could not fit through the bedroom door) and had to be folded and carried to and from the dining room.l had no hope of using the pool.Everyone helped all they could but how l wish Great Western could have provided two or three ground floor rooms and a wheelchair lift from reception to the bar and dining room on the first floor. The Old Mill is such a lovely place with such good food and a beautiful location l feel very disappointed that disabled and less able potential customers are not able to enjoy a stay there.

    « Tired hotel but A1 staff »

Stayed for 3 nights, yes the rooms are tired but comfortable, my bathroom door stuck when trying to shut but that's the only bad points. We had our 4 month boy with us and the staff were amazing with him, storing his milk and talking to him. Caroline on front desk was brilliant with him. We ordered room service as going to the restaurant while he slept wasn't an option and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was also very nicely cooked. The pool and changing area is a little small but we loved it in there. I will most definitely stay here again when in the area.

    « Dirty »

Went to use the gym and pool facilities , the changing rooms where dirty extremely dirty !! And smelt very bad . The pool area was the same the tiles around the pool looked like they had not been cleaned for years . We went upstairs to use the restaurant and it was the same food on the carpet that had not been clean up . Could not pick much from the menus as there fridge had been turn of all night. As a result of all of this I couldn't eat in a restaurant that was dirty and food left on the carpets .I couldn't even use the shower in the changing rooms as the hole place made me feel ill. so I went home and had a nice clean shower and food . This hotel is very dirty I would not recommend it to anyone !!!!

    « Very good »

I booked a Living Social for me & the missus. The village is very picturesque & the hotel setting is lovely. We had a nice, clean room with sky sports on the TV!! The leisure facilities are good, but I suggest the hotel keeps an eye on who is using it as children where in the jacuzzi. Hi The food in the restaurant was very nice for our evening meal as well as breakfast. Overall a good stay at a decent price.

« Needs the hotel inspector to come in and give some tips and updates »

Room smelt of smoke and the evidence was on the floor under the dressing table, someone had opened a packet of cigarettes and dropped the wrapper on the floor. Need to invest in decent pillows, apart from that a decent enough room and lovely clean bathroom. Dinner was very poor, no flavour, we ate at 8pm and they had run out of a starter and main that we picked! need to eat at 7 I think in order to get what you fancy. After dinner retired to the bar area for a nightcap, low and behold they had run out of Baileys, what can I say, they really are not making a profit if they can't stock up on drinks, did hear someone else order a drink and they had run out of that as well. Swimming pools in desperate need of a clean and a re-tile, it looks awful.

« Lovely Hotel Turned bad by Best Western »

Previously I have lived in Ramsbottom in the 70's before moving down to London and I remember this hotel had character in those days and had a Water wheel in the front which gave it that character. The water wheel is no longer there so that character has gone. I got a very small room for for the night and firstly I complained about the heating not working but who ever they sent to fix it did not manage to fix it, so I slept in a cold room all night. Also to get to my room I had to go through the main dining and party room, where there was a wedding party going that evening on and it was strange being stared at by the guests. The Hotel on the whole was not very looked after, my room needed upgrading as it looked outdated and the reception and dining room were too. On the whole if this hotel was independently owned I am sure it would be looked after well. I was very disappointed in this hotel and its a shame because there is only 1 other hotel in Ramsbottom and that too I hear is not very good, so here Best Western has an opportunity to give a decent hotel to the people of Ramsbottom.

« Great place to stay »

This is our 2nd time visiting this particular place and we absolutely love it. Beautiful surroundings, very friendly and helpful staff and the food is lovely. Just a little note for any future customers, make sure you book dinner reservations for earlier in the evening as oppose to later. Stock was an issue so therefore we was given a limited choice for dinner as we booked our table for later in the evening.

Lovely hotel, this is the fifth time we have stayed here, very nice food, staff and leisure centre. Easy walk into Ramsbottom which is a very nice town. We will be back yet again in December to enjoy all that time of year offers!!!

What can I say... this hotel is the best, it has amazing landscape nested in a beautiful part of Ramsbottom, the staff here are so friendly and helpful, if you are looking for a good nights sleep with some delicious food The Old Mill is the place to stay! I would recommend it to all my friends and family.

Having just got home from an over night stay at the old mill hotel . I have already re booked to return for my wedding anniversary, what a wonderful time we had . The staff are so friendly , welcoming and helpful , nothing was too much trouble . Having just found out i am expecting , I'm stuggling to get a good nights sleep at all but I can honestly say i had the best nights sleep I've had in weeks , the beds are so comfy ! The pool is wonderful , very warm and relaxing , not to mention the jacuzzi ! The breakfast was amazing and so much choice too ! I honestly couldn't say a bad word about this place ! Can't wait to go back in November ! Would like to say a special thank you to Caroline , Georgia , Adam , Lee and the rest of the team for making our stay so memorable ??see you next month

    « Fantastic stay away »

I purchased a deal through groupon , wow what a great stay , as with deals you expect a slightly different experience to those who pay full price but on this occasion I was extremely impressed , excellent staff, room really nice and facilities top notch. The meal we had was amazing , I had the scallops , my partner had a black pudding stack for starters, I then had a sirloin steak and the other half had the fish and chips, it was one of the best meals I've ever had on a deal voucher and to top it off we had a glass of fix too. Big high five to the chief and the waiting staff. A lovely peaceful nights sleep and the breakfast was excellent. Yes the bar prices are steep paying just over £10.00 for a glass of wine and a pint but we did go into town, which is a short walk down the hill. I would just like to say we had a great overnight stay and will deffnately be beck thank you

    « GROUPON DEAL »

Had a great stay after a day in Liverpool we stayed a Sunday night on a Groupon Deal £69 which included two course dinner with a small bottle of wine. Dinner was way above expected. Breakfast was all so included and could not have been better! There was a small pool with spa and steam room and sauna which was nice to have an hour in before dinner. Room nice and clean next day we visited Trafford Centre. GREAT VALUE.

Stayed one night (Sunday) on a Living Social deal. Staff very helpful and friendly. Pool and jacuzzi great, watm and not too full. Located abiut a five minute walk from the centre of Ramsbottom and all thst is there - East Lancashire Railway and Irwell brewery and numerous shops if you wish Food both at evening and breakfsst was very nice Bar prices a little steep but being so close to the centre not a problem to find a pub if you wish. All in all had a good relaxing stay. Thanks. Would recommend.

    « Disapointing »

Room 12 opaque windows so quite dark, small room, bathroom adequate although position of toilet roll holder likely to injure users!. Bar prices high first establishment to charge me for soda water? Breakfast good, fresh fruit and choice of cooked items. Arrived early told room available at 2pm.? Flashed my Best Western card told not able to have points having not booked direct, what is the point of a loyalty card? Pool looked pleasant did not have opportunity during stay. Would have been nice to have had some information regarding history of premises and also local information. Adjacent room very noisy occupants leaving and returning during both nights? However for what I paid there has to be a balance with expectations, so cannot all be bad.

    « Disappointing »

I've never stayed in a Best Western hotel before. Having heard good things about the chain I was disappointed. The bedroom door came off the hinges on arrival and the room smelt of smoke. At time there was rhythmic banging which I think was pipework. It was difficult to turn the bathroom taps on and off. Staff were friendly and the location is good.

    « Awful »

A friend and I visited on Friday for an afternoon tea with prosecco. It was slapped on the table on slate boards not on a cake stand. The sandwiches where served on stale bread. The cakes where a complete disappointment and the scones which where no more than a mouth full also unedable served with a small pot of blackcurrant jam 'not strawberry' and squarty cream. No one visited the table to ask how the food was and on leaving found no one to complain to. It was awful from start to finish. I would tell anyone "DON'T waist your money. Go elsewhere!!

    « Excellent Travelzoo deal 23-240816 »

Two nights here with access to all facilities (not used) and great breakfasts. There was a minor hiccup while we were there in that work was taking place with the gas supply but the inconvenience is hardly worth a mention as I am sure all the new pipes are in by now!!! Great for the East Lancashire Railway.

I had a great stay here, very pleasant hotel. Loved the surrounding area, very peaceful & relaxing. There is a great little walk up to the tower, which is in farm land. Also the lovely little pool & spa facilities a very nice to spend time in, just before bed. I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting somewhere to stay in the area.

    « Avoid »

My own fault as the Red Hall was booked, basically I left it too late. Old Mill was OLD circa 1990's decor, tv in room antique. Bar dreadful, dire service, resturant much the same. Wifi shocking, carrier pigeon would have been more efficient, clearly been setup by a temp. Shower laughable, shook and complained about its work. Staff seem mainly to think its a social. Seriously, avoid, Premier Inn does this stuff 100 times better..

We checked in fast and easily the receptionist was lovely , our room was great very clean it had everything you needed a great hairdryer , iron and ironing board tea and coffee making facilities , the meal and service in the restaurant was really nice , breakfast was great , great service there too , the pool steam room sauna etc were all good lockers and keys and towels provided , we would definitely stay here again I can't praise the staff and quality of the hotel enough thanks for a lovely time

This hotel offers a good range and level of food/service, this is a little hidden gem. I came across this by chance and would recommend this for it's overall provision and location to the general area.

    « The gym »

I checked in as a guest, used the changing room and pool...the pool was OK, but the standard of cleanliness in the changing room is poor. As I changed, not only did an insect walk across the floor, there was another crushed dead insert by my feet. The toilet looked like it had not been cleaned in weeks and there was toilet paper in the cubicle! The walls have a white plastic trim that looks like it's covered in dust and needs cleaning too! The hotel is lovely, the staff are really friendly and helpful.... It is just the male changing room that is appalling.

Picked up a Woucher deal for this place, fantastic value! B&B, 2 course dinner, prosecco and use of the leisure facilities, £69 for 2! Clean comfortable room with great free WiFi, excellent dinner and breakfast and the leisure facilities (pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room) were superb. Staff were lovely as is Ramsbottom itself. If the offer comes up again snap their hands off!

« Quirky Hotel and Welcoming Staff »

We booked a night's stay using a Wowcher Deal. We have no complaints only praise for the staff who made our stay memorable. Initially, we were bringing our dog but having already spoken to the receptionist to check the facilities on booking, we were told that there was no lift and the stairs were steep. Our room 27 was ideal, the twin beds were comfortable and we didn't expect air conditioning as we could tell it was an older style hotel. It was quirky the way the reception was opposite the swimming pool on the ground floor, with the bar and restaurant on another floor - offset from the first floor bedroom area. The 2 course evening meal and breakfast that was included in the deal were excellent. All of the staff were very helpful and tried their best to make us feel welcome. We'd been to Haworth and Hebden Bridge so this was a great location for visiting Bury market, the next day - all of which were great! We'd definitely book to stay here again.

The hotel is smashing. We ate at the hotel on the Sunday evening and the food was great. I had sea bass and my husband steak. Cooked just right. The staff were very friendly too. I am writing this as I am about to leave the old Mill, lovely place, a bit dated in parts but overall I would return, staff lovely and pleasant, food was fantastic, would highly recommend it. Surrounding area is very picturesque, Ramsbottom is a nice little village and has a few nice pubs.

    « Friendly hotel »

Staff were friendly welcoming and professional our family room was very good lots of space for us and grandson and beds were clean and comfortable. .breakfast had good choice and plentiful. ..my 2 complaints and would not prevent me from returning are changing room for pool not very clean and needs refurbished and that doorway from kitchen was on stairs leading to bedrooms... my grandson (4) nearly crashed into a waitress carrying hot food when going up stairs to our room... This could have been a nasty accident we couldn't understand why a door out to restaurant would be hidden halfway up staircase...overall we enjoyed our stay and would return as it was a great base to explore area...drive to Bury park at metro centre park/drive and take bus or metro into Manchester no hassle of city driving. ..

Not disabled friendly. Struggled with steep stairs. Sat in entrance lounge and watched people struggling with walking sticks, cases etc. The NO LIFT should be more clearly stated. « 3 star hotel 1 star room »

I'm not sure if it makes a difference but to put it out there we booked this through travelzoo. Now if I was trying to promote my hotel to entice customer, especially during quiet periods, I would want to make an impression and hopefully get some return business. I should also make it clear that I understand the difference between a 3 star hotel and a 4 star hotel and so my expectations were not set too high. Clean and basic is the given benchmark. What we got was the smallest hotel room I have ever been in (i am not exaggerating), which was worn and dated. You know a room is small when they put the tea making facilities in a drawer because there was literally no other room for them. The view was a wall and a path ran right outside the window. We are at the restaurant on the first night where I asked for steak, med rare. When it arrived it was well done. The waitress apologised and went to get another. In the meantime my wife, who is one of the slowest eaters I've ever met, was still eating. Now there was only one other table and they had already received their food so I was expecting a speedy turn around in getting my food. Needless to say it never happened. Just as my wife finished mine arrived. By way of apology the hotel offered me...nothing. To be fair the facilities were okay with a small pool, steam room, etc and most of the staff were lovely and breakfast was decent. The other thing to be aware of is how hot the rooms got with no heating on the room was still incredibly hot. Just a shame the room was awful and customer satisfaction was not a priority. Avoid room 2.

    « 2 Day Stay »

My husband and I booked a last minute two day stay at this hotel through TravelZoo. This included breakfast and 2 course meal on both nights. I rang the reception to discussion the offer and she was more than helpful to me and even checked to ensure she could accommodate me and my husband in a double room for the two nights. The hotel is situated in a small village in Ramsbottom and we were greeted by two very friendly reception ladies one of which was the lady I had spoken to earlier. The room is basic but comfortable. The bed was lovely, clean and soft. As there is no air conditioning it does get hot in the room and we stayed in room 34 where the window opened. It was really quiet during our stay no noise on any evening which meant I actually managed to get some sleep which is rare for me when away. The restaurant was OK, not very busy and as we had the meal deal we could order off a specific set menu option which included steak. Some parts of the meal never came but it wasn't a deal breaker as it was just a salad garnish and I mentioned this on the second night and the lovely waitress gave me some peppercorn sauce free of charge as an apology. Breakfast was pleasant and plentiful. The gym has numerous equipment enough for people to use without having to wait for others to finish. Swimming pool small but adequate for what we wanted. Sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi smashing. We used these facilities on both days and was very enjoyable. On the whole could the hotel do with a little bit of titivation? Yes. Did it spoil my time here? No. The staff were pleasant, helpful and lovely and are definitely an asset to the establishment.

    « Good Location »

Stayed here for 2 nights bed & breakfast, was surprised to find the hotel tucked away in a good location with plenty of parking. Reception staff very helpful, the full English breakfast was cooked to order and was very good. The bedroom that we had, room 12 was very small and all the windows had obscure glass in them which meant you had no view, also the top part that opened did little to let in fresh air hence the room was very warm. The bathroom had a few cracked tiles on the floor, not nice to see. A little tlc would make this a much better place to stay.

« We were put into a room at the top: no lift »

The breakfasts were very good and generous. No air-con in our room - it was very hot. Being on the top floor was difficult without a lift. Difficult for people in their mid-70s to climb. Room was quiet and comfortable.

« Hottest day in July »

Beautiful hotel very welcoming receptionists with a lovely pool, sauna and steamroom! Unfortunately for my partner and I it was the hottest day of the year so far and it didn't have air-con and typical hotel windows didn't open very far however the lovely hotel staff provided a fan ! The room / bathroom was clean with clean towels daily. The breakfast had the nicest warm pastries and the usual cooked breakfast (the sausages were really horrid - couldn't even eat them so fatty) or fruit / cereal options but at £14 per person or £10 if you booked in advance it seemed a little over priced. Over all we would definitely go back!! ( but won't have the breakfast again. )

« Harry Potter would feel at home in room 14 »

First impressions pretty good, nice run up and staff at reception nice enough. I just expected a bit more for £65.... Only 4 or 5 inch's around the bed and being able to open the bathroom door fully. Room 14 is like a comedy sketch gone wrong...it's built for a skinny Hobbit! Pretty stream outside though.... Best bit was delivery van at 06:30 outside the bedroom window, who left engine running and radio on with doors open. Fab!

« A great couple of nights B&B. Good spa facilities and a handy location to visit other local attractions. »

Rooms a little bit dated but very comfortable. Ate in the restaurant on Sun evening and food was very good. Wood pigeon starter, poussion main, 2 fantastic steaks and a massive burger were great. Breakfasts were fantastic with lots of choice. The staff are the best part of this hotel and cannot do enough for you from the receptionists to the night manager. Would go again to enjoy the peace & tranquility.

    4
    « Good in parts »

Many guests arrive in a bad mood, having struggled to find the place. A couple of well-placed signs would help enormously. The best thing about this hotel is the standard of service from the staff. From check-in onwards we were dealt with courteously & efficiently. Particular credit should be paid to the housekeeping staff, particularly Mel, who do a great job with rooms and public areas which are definitely ready for refurbishment. Restaurant was ok, although none of our steaks were quite right. All overcooked, but tasty none the less. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. We'd stay again.

My wife and I stayed overnight on the 14th July. After reading some of the reviews we were very pleased with our stay.We had a lovely room(room33) which was very clean and roomy.I think we got very good value for what we paid for this 3star hotel.

    « Nothing Sparkling »

The place felt in need of a makeover. It was for the most part well worn shall we say and did not feel very clean. Breakfast was really good. Well cooked with a wide choice of cereals, pastries etc. On our second day we ate a good breakfast such that we each only had coffee and a doughnut for lunch. That night we ate in the restaurant. It was Ok although our first course of scallops did not seem very hot. Throughout both breakfasts and the meal we were treated to repeated renditions of the same records. The following morning I had an upset stomach. On checking out I mentioned this to the receptionist along with the irritating music. She said she would take up the matter of the repetitive music and just ignored the other matter. I think she should at least have taken steps to check if anybody else had experienced a problem. But for this I would have rated it as average.

    « A Lovely Place »

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend from 17 - 18 June for a friend's 60th birthday party and my husband's birthday. The staff were friendly and helpful. It' squirted an old building, but has lots of character. The breakfast was good and sufficient choices were available. I would stay there again.

    4
    « Its in a nice area »

Again, the hotel needs something doing to it- I was in the single room 6- you walk through the bar and up the stairs- herein lies where the cleanliness comes into it- the carpets in the corridor do not inspire one- there are many stains on them and they don't look clean. Likewise in the bathroom there was a spiders web on the shower cable- that is needed to start the electric shower- not very nice. The bedroom itself was quite warm and I slept not only on top of the bed but with the windows open too! I ate breakfast here and there was a very good buffet choice - which was a good job since there was at least a 10 minute wait until the waitress realised I was in the restaurant- not many eating at 0800! says it all. The English breakfast was unfortunately fried instead of being grilled- spoilt it a little- but there was a good choice again. I like the vicinity of the hotel- handy fro a walk into Rammy and all their pubs and Indians etc!

« Spa break. Not really »

Booked this stay with a wowcher deal as a spa break. Me and my friend, very excited to use the spa, went straight to it only to find the worlds smallest pool (the steps into the pool were terrible too). There wasn't any loungers by the pool either just little chairs which was disappointing so our spa break lasted 15 minutes. The hotel in itself is just OK. The rooms were absolutely boiling even with the window wide open. It was a little dated / basic but very clean. The single beds were absolutely tiny and not very comfortable. A meal was included in the evening and this did make the stay a bit more worthwhile as the food was lovely. Especially the chocolate croissant bread and butter pudding. Finding the hotel was a big downfall. I used the satnav code given by the hotel and it took me 2 miles away from the actual hotel . once found, the carpark also isn't the best. We made the most of our stay and did enjoy it but we wouldn't come back.

    3
    « Below Expectations »

The accommodation was below the normally high standards of Best Western. The room was very small and unbearably hot; the tea & coffee facilities were hidden away in a drawer; the shower had 2 temperature settings, cold or tepid; we were told that we should book a time to eat "as they get quite busy". We booked a time and we were the only ones eating. The waiting staff was the lady from behind the bar. The scallops were only half cooked. The desserts obviously came out of the fridge/freezer and when my partner asked for her apple pie to be served hot, she received a tut from the lady serving. The pool and jacuzzi were open to the public and were often filled with shouting children. I will not be visiting for a second time.

    « One night in Ramsbottom....Stay here »

Perfect location for a wedding at the Fisherman's retreat 5 minutes away. Great value for money. Requested a quiet room. Enjoyed the leisure facilities, The staff are the best I've come across in a long time, very welcoming, smiley, helpful and polite. Breakfast was DELICIOUS. Just one small negative .... bed felt like a small double, not the comfiest, could easily fit a king sized in the room. The decor was "ok"... not good not bad...just needs a little updating.

    2
    « Disappointing »

Very disappointing 1 night stay recently. The decor is very dated and not as clean as it should be. The pool area wasn't good we even noticed algie around the pool although pool was warm which was nice. Staff were mainly OK needs to improve on their customer service though as 1 in particular wasn't happy about us paying by card and made a point of it a few times. Wide variety of foods and drinks for breakfast however orange juice tasted funny and bread rolls were stale, I ordered a egg muffin for breakfast and was instead given a sausage bap. Unfortunately the bad points did outweigh the few positives and we won't be returning.

    « One nighter »

Spent a single night here recently when visiting friends in the area. Lovely grounds greet you on arrival. Checkin was smooth and swift. The room was well decorated, clean and comfortable. We couldnt get the tv in the room to work and reported it to reception who assured us that someone would be up in minutes to look into it. An hour later we gave up waiting and headed off to friends for a visit, reporting the fault yet again to reception who assured us it would be sorted by the time we returned and it was. A comfortable night in a cosy bed was followed by a good breakfast from a grand choice of items and including a full english cooked breakfast if you wished. Sadly no tomato juice or sweeteners to cater for diabetics amongst the choices. Checkout was swift and accurate. My husband used the leisure facilities and was pleased with them, using the pool, steam room and jacuzzi.

    « A bit disappointed. »

I was visiting Ramsbottom due to business and decided to stop at The Old Mill . I used the Sat nav to find it and even with that I ended up driving around the town a few times. I think the signposting needs to be better. The hotel reception was a prompt and helpful service. I was a bit disappointed with the room, the decor was very dated, the bathroom had a very tired appearance although the water was lovely and hot. I also found that the sound insulation in the walls is not good . There was also a long delay getting in for my evening meal, I had booked but was told they were busier than expected so they were running late. Although the meal was very good, I had to wait until 9pm for my meal. I found this difficult after a long working day. Breakfast was ok Would I stay again- probably not.

    « Spa package deal »

Stayed for 1 night on a wowcher deal,£69 two people one night evening meal and breakfast with use of spa facilities, room number 34, A very nice clean comfortable hotel ,that is a converted old mill building and as such there are a lot of stairs so avoid if you have mobility problems as there is no lift, The spa is good, steam room, sauna and hot tub also a smallish pool everything is clean and works as it should , we had no problems using what we wanted to ,as the spa was quiet when we attended, at busier times some waiting may be involved . The room was a touch on the small side but had all the usual features , tea/coffee making facilities , phone, tv,bath and shower but as it was a warmish evening we slept with the window open as it did feel rather stuffy without it, the bed was a double and very comfortable. The bar restuarant area is tastefully decorated in a club style with chesterfield sofas and chairs and has pictures of local scenes on the wall . The food is great limited choice on our deal but very tastey and well cooked and presented , all in all a very pleasant stay and would not hesitate to return in the future

Myself & my other half had booked the hotel through a wowcher deal. We arrived to the hotel but struggled to find the hotel at first, staff were friendly & happy to help, we got to our room & its hasn't been cleaned from a previous guest, we went straight to reception & was given another room. The second room was basic & clean, we unpacked & went to the bar before dinner. The food wasn't very good so we later went out to the local take away. Breakfast was nice with an English fry up on the menu. Cereals, fruit, Yogarts & other breakfast items were laid out on a table in the middle of the room. The pool facilities were clean, the ladies lockers need a referb. The men's lockers were outside the pool area, & a £1 was needed for the men's lockers. Check out was at 11am, the staff were great & willing to help with any queries nice hotel & nice pool facilities, needs a bit of a referb all in all was a good stay would be stay again.

    « Good location »

My f amilly and I stayed for three nights at this very pleasant hotel and we're really impressed by the good location and lovely staff. Maybe the decor in the corridors is looking a bit tired, but the rooms were perfectly comfortable with plenty of space and with good facilities. The pool and steam room were first rate and the exercise equipment in the gym were all new. But what really carries this hotel are the wonderful staff, we will stay here again and would recommend anyone else to also. [email protected]

Visited this hotel when on business in the area, what a shame the hotel is very hard to find even though we had a satnav. When we got there had a very friendly welcome but the hotel was tired refurbishment was taking place in a downstairs conference room. Lots of stairs no lift but kind staff member carried bags.

« Nothing to shout about however comfortable stay! »

Stayed here due to a friend getting married at the Fishermans retreat. Which is in close proximity to the venue! Checked in by the night porter due to it being after 11.00pm. Room was basic but comfortable, shower was powerful. Breakfast was nice and involved a good choice of continental and cooked! We didn't try the spa facilities however they looked clean and accessible. Overall I would stay here again if I was in the area.

    « Nice but slow! »

Enjoyed the location of the hotel and view from room. Let down by poor restaurant service. Ordered dinner for 6.30 but got a table at 7.00 even though the restaurant was empty.Waited 20 mins for starter and waited until 8.15 for main course. Another table just got up and left. Breakfast was fine and much better service. Nice town to walk round and brewery worth a visit

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff. Use of gym pool sauna and jacuzzi all nice and clean. Rooms were lovely with tea and coffee and biscuits..hairdryer and free wifi. Breakfast was really nice with plenty of choice. Would certainly stay here again.

« Nice food but dated decor »

Staff were all extremely kind and helpful. Food on the evening was very tasty but the price of alcohol was ridiculous (£4 a pint). Leisure facilities were nice and clean, pool was a little on the small side but does what it says on the tin. A major let down was the dated and unclean rooms. Cobwebs on the bedside lamps and dust on TV and mirror ect; with hair on the toilet and sink, simply unacceptable. The carpet and curtains needs to be updated as soon as they looked unclean. Bed linen was clean but polyester made it very sweaty.

    « Nearly perfect »

This is a great friendly hotel with a smallish pool and friendly welcoming staff, breakfast very good but walk to the pub round the corner and up the hill (400 yds total) for a great pint of draught bitter.

    « overnight stay »

Hotel was clean but dated, really needs to updating furnishings and decor, very 80's. The room just looked tired and slightly jaded, however staff were lovely, really pleasant and friendly , meal on the evening was fab .

    « Relaxing location »

OK to find if you use the postcode given on hotel website for Satnav use rather than the postal address. Relaxing views. Clean and pleasant within hotel. Evening meal fabulous. Breakfast good. Leisure club also clean and relaxing. Room we had was a bit small for a double but for the price we paid was OK for 1 night.

A Great location, plenty of parking everything you need for a break away iluding a gym and a pool very clean rooms and a good bar lovely staff a decent breakfast I would recommend and would stay again for sure.

    « Relaxing Stay »

Stopped just the one night over our Anniversary weekend and really loved it. The staff were very professional, courteous and honestly couldn't do enough for you. We made use of the swimming pool and jacuzzi, and found them very relaxing. We had an evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant, both meals were reasonably priced and excellent quality, the service was excellent too. Well worth a visit and we will be returning soon.

« Good value, really good gym/ pool area »

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel the weekend before last. It's a good downhill walk to the town centre but set in quite a relaxing area. The rooms were a little dated but no big deal, you don't pay a fortune to stay here so it's good value on that basis. The gym was exceptionally good, I was really pleasantly surprised and the pool was good too and the jacuzzi. Staff helpful, indeed I forgot to pack my mobile charger when I left and they rang me and posted it onto me for the price of postage which was good too. Only negatives for us (and we may just have been unlucky) we were presented with a bill for 2 bottles of wine (we had 1) and double gins when we had singles. Also I have to say whilst my rib eye steak was really good I couldn't say the same for my partner's pasta dish which had about 10 pieces of penne pasta that had clearly been stuck to the bottom of the pan then surgically removed and served up. Anyone can make a mistake - the biggest mistake was serving it up instead of cooking some fresh. When I complained I was told the chef was working alone. Didn't take the shine off for us,but a little more care by the kitchen/ waiting staff would improve things

    « Relax in Lancashire »

Better signage in town would make location easier to find, especially in dark.Friendly welcome and good bedroom with usual comforts. Quiet outlook towards leisure club.Unfortunately no lift in this hotel but staff helpful. Restaurant for dinner was excellent with wide choice of courses and daily changes to table d'hote. Quality of food was very good, including local hot pot ! Service friendly and attentive.Hotel is good base for exploring the area upto & around Burnley.

    « A Pleasant Stay in Ramsbottom »

The hotel interior and exterior is a little tired but it is clean and otherwise well maintained. The leisure facilities are good (gym, sauna, steamroom and pool) but the gym and the changing rooms would benefit from a facelift. The rooms contain everything that you would expect and are of a good size and very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant one night and the prices were fair and the quality of the food was very good but the bar prices were steep. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was excellent, in terms of quality, selection and quantity. The location of the hotel is good, Ramsbottom seems a quiet place and the hotel is tucked away at the back of the town so there are no noise issues but it is close enough to the motorway to make the local towns and cities within easy reach. Last but not least, the staff are excellent and were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We would recommend the hotel and would use it again.

    « nice area »

booked a weekend break here, hotel bed was very comfortable, room was very clean, had everything we needed. The staff are friendly and helpful.Nice pool and jacuzzi. close walk to the town, where there were many good eateries, pubs, country walks, steam train to bury. town people were friendly.

« Lovely location especially for East Lancs Railway »

Stayed here on a Living Social offer. Hotel could do with a makeover especially the changing rooms which were very old and not the cleanest with only warm water in the showers. The pool, jacuzzi and steam room were lovely though. Food was lovely but the service in the restaurant shocking. From ordering to the starter appearing took an hour which is not acceptable. They ask you to wait in the bar all this time to spend money on drinks. Then the wine we ordered never appeared on the table until we reminded the waitress, and it was not served correctly either, and the water we asked for was forgotten too. The staff were helpful generally especially receptionists.

    « Family get together »

Took my parents for a family reunion, the hotel was nice the pool was great and the food was good. Slightly concerned about the PAT testing of the electrical equipment as the hairdryer nearly singed my hair but on the whole it was a pleasant stay. Better signage would help to find it in future however and the stairs inside were difficult for my elderly parents. Should have recommendations on the website informing that you need a moderate level of fitness to stay here.

    « Very happy »

What a great hotel. All the staff were pleasant and courteous. We stayed in room 38, nice size, clean, very comfortable king bed with perfect pillows. We had the best night's sleep since we began our short getaway. The hotel has put much thought into the tiniest of details which was much appreciated. We enjoyed the hot tub and a swim which was open until 10pm. Our breakfast was very good. My husband had a full English Breakfast (fry up) and I chose homemade porridge and two perfectly prepared poached eggs and croissant. I highly recommend this gem of a hotel and will stay here again as we plan to visit the area again soon.

    4
« Nice stay but, sadly, rude staff »

Apart from some black hair in the bathroom sink I really enjoyed my stay. The only downside was the receptionist decided to book the room in my partners name (how?) who ended up being unable to come due to illness. We managed to work out that the room was mine but my final bill was made out in my partners name & couldn't be changed. Five emails & one telephone call later, during which & received just two responses despite practically begging, they still haven't changed the name to mine.

    « Very poor stay »

We stayed in the Bridal Suite which smelt very strongly of dogs and had to leave the window open all night. We had a leak coming through the ceiling, no hot water in the shower and stained bed linen and the TV did not work (probably due to exterior roof repairs) The reception staff were very good at check out and gave us a total refund (however we were only offered free breakfast at first) We were attending a wedding somewhere separate and met people also staying at this hotel who too had issues with their rooms.

    4
    « Relaxing break »

We stayed two nights and we had a relaxing break. Staff were very friendly. Rooms a little tired but ours was spacious and very clean. Only downside was thin walls! You could hear the person in the next room using the bathroom at 6 am! Breakfast was ice and location ideal for walking into Ramsbottom. We used the pool too - again a little dated but we had a good swim. Would stay again.

    4
    « Extremely good value »

Very nice hotel, excellent leisure facilities represents very good value for money, breakfast and restaurant very nice. Drinks good prices for a hotel also. Staff friendly and helpful. Just one thing - if you use the post code on hotel website do not go up Ducie Street - the hotel is the turn before this one. Ducie street is narrow, very uneven and a dead end I nearly took the bottom of my car out trying to turn round!

    3
    « Basic but nice »

The rooms are basic but very clean with iron and board, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities in the room. We didn't have the breakfast as this would of been an extra £10.00 each. I would definitely return for another visit and try theiremoving evening meal

    4
    « Work stay »

Sat Nav takes you to the top of the road, had to phone hotel for direction and they helped. Has very good Gym, swimming pool etc. I order a rump steak for Dinner, this was one of the best Steaks I have had anywhere, it was more like a fill it steak. Brilliant service as well, however the bar staff had no idea how to work the Till which didn't bother me that much. Good stay

    5
« Great place to stay »

The hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful. We received a warm welcome and immediately my special dietary needs were noted and passed to the chef. The hotel is clean , comfortable and warm despite the very cold weather. Breakfast was a positive experience with a wide range of cold options as well as a full English breakfast . Service was polite and friendly . Will definitely stay here again

    « Adequate »

One night stay, good points were friendly & helpful staff, very clean, warm/comfortable room temperature, Fairtrade tea/coffee/hot-choc in room, comfy bed, comfy pillows and bedding. Lots of lighting options in room. Great town to visit.close to town centre but off the beaten track. Lesser points: Hideous frosted windows in the bedroom, bathroom and corridors giving a really claustrophobic feel to the whole place...opened them to look out and the view was better than anticipated...an embankment and a car park.No need for frosted windows AND net curtains. Small room with a lot of furniture crammed in...personal taste, but not to mine, brown curtains, brown carpet, pine furniture..very 1990's! Overall a pleasant place which is being really underplayed/needing investment by the corporation which owns it as it could be really really nice!

    « average »

Reception staff pleasant and helpful. Our room was up 3 flights of stairs and along several passages. Room clean but very pokey and claustrophobic. Bar and dining room staff helpful. Breakfast ,the choice was good but the cooked breakfast let the meal down. The hotel is in lovely surroundings but was really difficult to find. We stopped at a pub to ask for directions and as soon as we walked in looking bemused the landlady said "the old mill you're the 6th person tonight to ask for directions" overall a very average experience . We have stayed at a few Best Western hotels and sadly this hotel let's the side down

I spent three weeks at this hotel. I felt like family , everyone of the staff members were professional, friendly, and msde me feel like they were glad I was a guest there. The rooms are nothing extravagant but meet all my needs. The housekeeping is great. The bartenders are courteous and friendly. The chef that they have cooking dinner in the restaurant is absolutely amazing. Vicky has put together an awsome team and they do a fantastic job. I highly recommend this hotel ,even if your not staying you have got to go there for dinner. You won't regret that.

    « Very friendly »

We stayed here 2 nights and had to leave too early for breakfast , the staff packed us up some breakfast and we collected it in the morning before we left and it was no trouble. Room was nice , only downside was steep stairs, and no lift. Very close to town centre and railway. Thank you all for being so welcoming .

« One night stay to see friends »

Received a lovely welcome from the receptionist upon arrival & were given plenty of details for our stay. The rooms, bar & restaurant are up a steep flight of stairs & we had to go through the bar to reach our room. Room was adequate for our stay as we only needed a bed. Liked the little touch of placing a bottle of lavender spray by the bed to help with sleep. Breakfast was part self-serve & part cooked breakfast. Plenty to eat. Would suggest taking a torch if leaving the hotel on foot at night to avoid the puddles!

« great place to meet family and friends »

This hotel offers us a comfortable, happy place to have family gatherings twice a year. The entire staff are welcoming, the rooms comfortable the food excellent and the amenities great. The chef provides us with good menus to choose from. We are a group of 20-25 family members who like to get together twice a year to catch up. This is an ideal location for us. As we are scattered around Brittain.

    « Great stay »

Just returned from another lovely weekend at The Old Mill. All of our family had a wonderful time. We loved the pool and the food and even had a dance for my daughter's 16th birthday. We explored Peel Tower, the steam railway and the local shopping, Thank you once again to Vicky and team for looking after us so well.

    « Lovely stay »

Stayed here for new year. Lovely clean rooms. Enjoyable experience. Breakfast really nice in restaurant. Staff pleasant. Would recommend this to friends. There are plenty of walks around Ramsbottom. The village has a good high street with plenty of restaurants and shops.

    « Lovely little find »

We stayed overnight here and it was perfect. The staff were very helpful and we loved having a swim, sauna & steam room the following morning. Note: The tea & coffee making facilities are in the drawer.

« Overnight stay with breakfast »

This was a very comfortable hotel with typical Best Western individual character. Excellent value, well appointed and very clean with friendly staff. Breakfast was good. The hotel has leisure facilities, including a swimming pool but we didn't have time to use them.

    « Enjoyable stay »

Stayed here recently as enjoy going out in Ramsbottom. Centrally located although sat nav struggled to find it and told us to drive down a dirt track which we luckily ignored. Receptionist (named Ashleigh I think) was very helpful and welcoming. Room was clean and bed was comfortable however room was rather small and bathroom was dated. This was not an issue though as only stayed for one night. Didn't have the opportunity to use the leisure facilities but will be returning and will be taking advantage of what looked like a very nice pool and jacuzzi. Missed breakfast but will try on our next stay. Bar stayed open late and was told stays open all night which is always a plus. Next stay we are having the bridal suite over Xmas when we are visiting friends and family in the area. Would recommend.

« Character hotel in Ramsbottom »

This hotel is pleasantly situated within easy reach of Ramsbottom town centre and attractions such as the East Lancs Railway with its steam engines, Holcombe Hill and the surrounding countryside. The hotel was originally a candle factory and is full of character. There is an indoor swimming pool. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast is good.

    1
    « Simply appalled »

This hotel was very overpriced. A friend and I stayed for a Christmas shopping trip for two nights. We had a number of let downs including the self proclaimed stunning, contemporary restaurant being unavailable to us and the "extensive" restaurant menu limited to whatever the Christmas party guests were having; which to be honest was pretty poor quality - and at a premium cost and worse than that we had to suffer the same menu both nights of our stay! Cold showers and very basic and dated amenities made this trip even worse not to mention freezing cold "temporary" restaurant with no atmosphere for those not partaking in the parties the alternative being hunched over a low level bar table. To top it off; when sending a formal complaint - our emails wont go through to the "contact us" email (or they say they dont).

    4
« Perfect for a one night stay with the kids »

We stayed here for while attending a wedding in Ramsbottom. The kids and I had a gap between the ceremony and reception so we came back to swim and relax at the hotel. It isn't super fancy but it does have charm. Positives: clean, cozy sitting areas, nice pool and jacuzzi area, family sized room had ample space, close to town and value. Negatives: older furnishings and carpet, kind of musty in the halls. We chose to walk into town for breakfast so I can't speak to the quality of the food. Overall we would come again.

    « Top notch »

Visited my son and family in Rochdale and stayed here Saturday and Sunday. Warm and friendly greeting on arrival, although the sat navigation system could only get us to within 200yds, could do with a larger sign on approach road. Room spacious well equipped and clean, comfy bed, although a little bit on the small side for a double. Straight to the bar then where the leather furniture awaited us, the bar is small but well equipped and again the service was excellent. Lainey straight to the hot tub (I had to stay in the bar as she forgot my trunks) we will be back in the spring. Thanks everyone for a lovely weekend.

    « Exceptional »

We were visiting family in Lancashire and decided to book one night in the Old Mill Hotel Ramsbottom. We had a double room four poster which was extremely comfortable and very clean. The room had large flat screen TV, coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board. The bathroom was large and had a bath with shower and plenty of shampoo and shower gel. The young lady on reception was very friendly and professional during our stay also were the breakfast staff who looked after us very well. There was a large choice of breakfast from continental to full English. We did not get to use the spa but another guest commented on how good it was and we should definitely give it a go next time. Ramsbottom is a lovely little market town in the beautiful Lancashire countryside and is a must to visit at anytime of year. the only let down was the weak wifi signal which for me did not work at all. Overall 9/10 and if the wifi works next time I would give a 10/10

« Just OK, but could have been great with minimal investment: They don't seem to be trying »

We booked two rooms for two nights to attend a family wedding in the area. There were no major disappointments, but it was clear that a very small investment could have turned what was a barely OK stay into a great one. Most of these things are obvious, giving the impression that nobody really cares enough to make it better. We arrived at tea time on a rainy Friday evening, having put the postcode from the website into the car's Satnav. This led us to a back yard of several flats, and no sign of there being a hotel in the vicinity. The few signs pointing us towards the hotel had petered out as we got closer. We phoned the hotel and they told us "Yes, if you go to the postcode on the website, you'll end up in the wrong place. Enter this postcode instead?.." This worked, but, since it is clearly a common issue?. Obvious suggestion no. 1: Change the postcode on the website to one that actually takes drivers to the hotel. The hotel advertised free Wi-Fi, but this was only available in the public areas, not the rooms. The hotel isn't vast. It would be a simple matter to install two repeaters which would extend the Wi-Fi to the two areas where the bedrooms are situated. Meanwhile the information in the bedroom advises guests to call reception for the password. Obvious suggestion no. 2: Make the small investment in technology (Less than £200 and 30 minutes to install) to extend the Wi-Fi to the bedroom areas, and hence fulfil the expectation that the website and guest information are creating. Having seen the name of the hotel and the picture giving it a rustic appearance, I expected to learn something in the hotel about its history, and how it fitted in the industrial and social history of the area. This kind of thing can bring a location to life for guests. There was no information about this, only the obligatory rack of pamphlets from local tourist attractions. Obvious suggestion no. 3: An A3 summary of the history of the building in reception would add some interest to what is otherwise a fairly drab building. And lastly: Obvious suggestion no. 4: Service or replace the hair driers, so that rather than sounding like a hurricane and blowing like a cool breeze they do the opposite. It would be so easy to make this place so much better.

    « Very enjoyable stay! »

We stayed here for 1 night and it was very nice. Room was very clean, staff were very helpful and friendly. We had the full English breakfast which was very tasty and we also enjoyed the leisure facilities. Parts of the hotel were a bit tired as mentioned by a few other reviewers but that didn't affect our stay. Good value for money!

    « Its OK »

I am a seasoned traveller unfortunately! I had just had 2 nights in the centre of Chester in the Best Western Premier Queens hotel and this was complete luxury in every aspect compared to this Best Western accommodation. It was somewhat of a come down and not cheap either @£64 for just a bed/accommodation. I thought the rooms were comfortable but could do with some kind of sparkle/upgrading- when compared to the market leading Premier Inns. The shower in room 35 was not very good and took some getting right.\\ I bet the view out of this room is fantastic in the daylight with views towards Bury- I arrived and departed in the dark! I went around the village for food and drink since there were many restaurants close by and I didn't want to pay £13 for a steak burger! The corridors and stairs leading to the rooms/restaurant are also narrow which could potentially affect some customers. There was free wifi and also nice tea/coffee facilities. It is very convenient for the village if you are brave enough to walk down the bumpy roads etc! Its nice to potentially use the pool and gym- note to reception they never mentioned if these facilities were free to paying guests! All staff were nice and friendly- no problems that way-you will be looked after.

« Good value for money stay with friendly service »

stayed here on business for one night. It does have a well appointed swimming pool which I didnt use but looked good. I did use the gym which is tired to be honest but has a good selection of free weights and cardio machines. The bedroom I had was well appointed with wifi (nice touch). I didnt stay for breakfast so I cant comment on that but I did have an evening meal which was very welcome after a 4 hour drive and very well portioned. Overall very happy and would stay again.

« Good Value for Money »

Wife and I had occasion to stay overnight whilst visiting friends in Ramsbottom. We had room only as we thought breakfast rate was expensive at £10.00 per person, and to be fair there's plenty of places nearby for a good breakfast. Hotel is a 3 star, but its very clean, has good size rooms and a swimming pool with Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room all of which I used in the afternoon. Here are my marks for the hotel.(out of ten)..... Cleanliness 9. Room 8. Staff 8 Facilities ie wifi/bar 8. All in all I'd certainly recommen this hotel, if you're looking for somewhere to stay in up a Ramsbottom, The Old Mill is well worth it.

    « End of Beyond »

Very narrow surrounding roads for an urban area. The hotel has a reasonable amount of parking spaces. My room was an upgrade for having loyalty card so it was a reasonable good size with King Size bed. Everything that I used in the room worked fine. Good selection of breakfast items. A reasonable choice of dishes on the evening meal menu.

« Very nice but short stay »

This was the local hotel where many of the guests for a local wedding were staying. A phone call earlier in the week to ask if we could please check in early so we could change etc after a longish journey. No problems here. Efficient staff, comfortable room, decent ales at the bar.... what more could we have asked for?

« What a great place to stop - we would recommend it to anyone »

We arrived on the evening, due to a satnav issue we got lost and had to call for directions, reception staff were great, so helpful and friendly. We had a family room which was large and comfortable, both the kids loved it! The pool was fantastic! unlike some places they didn't have a time limit on when children were allowed in the pool so we made the most of it. The breakfast was brilliant, Continental Buffet and Full English cooked to perfection. Next time we visit we plan on getting there earlier so we can try out the evening meal as the menu looked great. Fantastic place, we are looking for an excuse to go back soon!

    « Wedding Party! »

After booking our Wedding at the Fisherman's Retreat, we needed to find a hotel that could accommodate all of our guests for the two night stay - we couldn't have found a more perfect venue! We would like to thank all of the Staff at the Old Mill for making our stay so enjoyable! You couldn't do enough for us, the food was excellent and the bridal suite was lovely. The guests enjoyed the pool and everything was clean and comfortable. I loved this hotel as it is very quaint and perfect for photos. The very kind man behind the bar also kept this open once we arrived back in the evening until 3am, which kept our guests very happy! The lovely staff were also very helpful if providing me with hot water and lemon to help my throat :-) The staff really went out of their way & we will definitely be recommending you - Thank You!

From checking in at this hotel the service was very good. Staff friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was very good. We had a family room with was spacious and comfortable. It has a lovely pool. Very warm and friendly atmosphere. On arriving back from the wedding very late the gentleman behind the bar was very helpful and accommodating with our drinks service even though he was on his own and there was a lot of us. Breakfast was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

« Buisness trip to a tourist area! »

The Old Mill was perfectly adequet for what was required, somewhere to sleep the night before a day long businees meeting in a local industrial unit. Second time of stopping there for me so I knew what to expect, rooms are a bit tired round the edges and more geared for the fell walkers and hikers who are there more typical summer clients I imagine. Excellent full English breakfast and very scenic location in the daylight. Half way up a steep hill so not for those who are not great with slopes. It is also set up with a very small swimming pool and health centre used by the locals so if you have a room at the front expect to hear cars coming and going from quite early in the morning.
