Best Western Bristol North The Gables Hotel

Even though close to M5 was very quiet. Room in need of updating/redecoration. Resteraunt pricey £20 for a Pizza and £40 for a steak. Not the best Best Western we've ever been in by a long way.. Staff friendly

Very enjoyable overnight stay to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary. Pleasant room, friendly and efficient staff and excellent breakfast. Restaurant manager was very helpful, I have a gluten intolerance and he checked everything for me. Thanks.

I read the reviews on this hotel but was willing to give it a try and that was a mistake. This hotel needs major work and the Marco Pierre White restaurant is overpriced for very average food. My check in was fine but checkout very slow and staff quite rude and slow. Breakfast was one of the worse that I have ever had and I travel a lot. The milk for the tea had curdled and the buffet choice was poor, for I was there just after it opened and all fried eggs had gone, the bacon was in a large heap and was hardly cooked. Avoid this hotel.

Went to the Marco Pierre white restaurant for the first time on Mother's Day and was very disappointed. I booked on line for 5 people and it said on the website that every guest would be greeted with a gin cocktail… this never happened and when we asked we were told it was 1 cocktail per booking which totally contradicted the website!! We were seated by a young waiter who then took 15 mins to get 3 teas and 2 coffees, we then had to ask for milk for the coffee as her never brought any. The food was brought over just after which was very good. Nobody came and asked if things were ok or if we wanted any more tea and coffee. Charlotte appeared at one point and I asked for the 1 gin and a coffee which never arrived, I got up and went to the bar and they said she never passed the order on but they would sort it but it still took another 20 mins. Food was good but very let down by the service, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone because of this!!

We stay here a couple of times a year when in the area, the rooms are lovely, although the corridor carpets could do with a clean! The restaurant is now a Marco Pierre White establishment and so is very expensive. Previously we would eat bar meals which were delicious and fairly priced, however bar meals are no longer an option as Mr White's meals (and a ridiculous amount of photographs of him everywhere) are all there is! We were also served in the bar by an inexperienced lady who did not warn us that the 2 drinks we ordered (yes... 2) were £38 my shocked reaction must have been apparent in my facial expression. So... We love the rooms but not the restaurant... sadly they have landed an own goal!

Order food in the bar area. Food arrived, but had to go to kitchen to ask for a knife & fork. My food was served with Garlic Mayonase in a small jar. (Great) I asked for some tomato ketchup, the server went to get some, but came back and took the Galic Mayonaise away, Still waiting for the ketch-up, the server appeared behind the bar, and starting severing drinks, I again asked for ketch-up, and a few minuites later she appeared. With ketchip.

Great hotel. Great location just off the M5. Menu not fully available yet but baby ribs are highly recommended. Great stop for business. Not to sure if I would stay for any other reason due to its remote location

Dec.23. we arrived early for our party and had a drink at the bar. My drink an aperol Spritz wasn't on the till computer so we agreed to pay later after a long wait to try to rectify the problem. We then went to our room and got ready for the party. We had previously showered at home before leaving thankfully as there didn't seem to be any hot water. We thoroughly enjoyed our New Year party and would recommend the night itself with lovely food and entertainment. However on our return to the room there was still no hot water but as it was late we went straight to bed. My partner was a little cold all evening as he said the room could have done with having a blanket as an extra in the wardrobe. But a nice quiet room and I personally slept well. Unfortunately in the morning there was still no hot water so I phoned down to reception to report it. The lady said she would get it looked into but we didn't have time to wait for an engineer to turn up on New Year day as we had to go down to breakfast. Thankfully there was a kettle in the room so it was a wash at the sink instead. After breakfast I again went to reception where there were numerous people all complaining about the same thing. The lady on reception was polite but gave no reason of any discription as to why or when it might be mended. So everyone went home without a shower and not even a sorry or would you like to come back for a free hot drink to make up for it. They just ignored us all. So this was very disappointing as up until then the evening had been lovely and had this been dealt with differently I would have given it a 5 star rating. As I believe its not their fault that the boiler broke on the most important day for them. But it's how you deal with the problem that matters and this was not dealt with at all !!

We attended the Christmas party Retro night for 10 ladies as part of my mum's special birthday celebration, with 2 rooms booked for an overnight stay. We all had a great time. The Gables was beautifuly decorated for Christmas. The DJ/music spot-on, really impressed. The food was very nice - a little late/slow for the main course to arrive, but, they were catering for large numbers and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Our table was in a great spot, close to the dance floor and we had a really special night. The atmosphere in the room was friendly and fun from all the other guests and everyone was there to have a great night. Regarding rooms, the standard twin room (22x) at the end of a corridor and bathroom was VERY cold on arrival (radiator turned off) and a little dated to be honest, but it was comfortable enough and by the time the guests had returned from the evening, the room had warmed up thankfully. By comparison, we had a different /dearer room as no standard twin were left at the time of booking - our Superior King room (40x) (made up as a twin) was much nicer, much warmer and I would really recommend staying in those rooms instead. Breakfast was really nice with a friendly welcome and service. The only thing I would have preferred was our own teapots for tea, rather than the flasks available in the buffet area so that our drinks would have been hot rather than just warm, else, all very lovely and a good selection to choose from. Have to say, the bread for toasting was delicious! Overall, I'd highely recommend!

No internet, bar & restaurant not available on Saturday night, rooms not cleaned or restocked after first night. Location was ok for our trip but the boy racers do love the main road, so be prepared to sleep with the firmly closed

Hotel is a typical Best Western, very accommodating and professional staff. The restaurant is, allegedly, a Marco Pierre White franchise. Sent my food back as it was poorly cooked and inedible. Breakfast was a good buffet of hot and cold food.

Had a one night stop over on the way to Cornwall comfortable room and lovely breakfast most of the staff were very friendly and helpful especially Ben who was a new member of staff it was only his second shift there but it was as though he had worked there for years hope to see him when we return next year Mark and Elaine

Run down, filthy, unsafe, no main lights in the hotel room or bathroom. Most run down hotel I have ever stayed in. Would never return. I have never left a bad review before but this really was terrible.

Not impressed after all the hype of a Marco Pierre White restaurant. Butchers steak was a small lump of fried beef well done when told they were all medium rare. Only 6 chunky chips. That was it. I ordered coleslaw as an extra. Don't know what was in it but tasted horrible. Waiters. When serving a customer a drink you hold the glass at it's base not the rim where the customer's mouth goes. Who knows what is on your fingers that I am allergic to? This is basic hospitality that every bar staff and waiter should know.

Having read some mixed reviews, we were not too sure what to expect, especially as we had used a well-known supermarket vouchers scheme to book but had paid a little more for an upgrade. As we pulled into the car park we could see that some of the window frames need painting and tidying and, probably due to recent weather, many weeds were sprouting in the paving and bins definitely needed emptying. However, we received a warm welcome and our room was on the ground floor. It was a decent size, clean with a lovely waterfall type shower in the bathroom. The only issue was that it was close to the roadworks taking place overnight. We ate in the Marco Pierre White restaurant. The food was lovely with good portions and very tasty. Breakfast was equally as good with a buffet style offering a full cooked breakfast, cereal, fruit etc. The Gables is a great base for exploring the historical sites in the area as it is on the A38 and very close to the M5. We would definitely book again.

The hotel is very clean and comfortable, and the staff are all friendly courteous and extremely helpful.The breakfast is good quality food and plenty of choice of hot or cold food. I would say that the cost is a fair price

Cooked breakfast was awful. No baked beans, tomatoes or scrambled egg left. Fried eggs were baked up and hard as were hash browns. Bacon anemic and very undercooked. No bread left for toast nor any coffee left and no bowls for cereals either. And this was only half way through service!! Requested early check in didn't get it. Did however get a room call at 2 am for 111 service! NOT IMPRESSED.

Basic business hotel with an Italian inspired restaurant. Traditional English cooked breakfast available. Friendly, helpful staff. Non-cooked breakfast options are limited, especially for those on sugar free diets. My room was comfortable but dark and and a bit stuffy. Delivery and waste disposal trucks arrive before 7am and tend to be very noisy. Internet unreliable. Hotel will provide a packed lunch on request the night before.

All of the staff from checking in to leaving were excellent. The service at reception, restaurant and bar was great, and the cleanliness of the hotel and rooms were of a very high standard and we really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel is extremely poor, ever part of the hotel I used was very very tired and grubby. The breakfast offered was a good selection but unfortunately all the hot food offered was at best Luke warm but a lot of it was cold. I am so disappointed and certainly will not be going Bach to that Hotel again!

The hotel is well located off the M5. The facilities such as restaurant and bar were excellent. The rooms were adequate and spacious the only fault is that there is no air conditioning in the room that I was in but a fan was provided. The staff were helpful and answered any queries that I had.

I have stayed a this venue many times over the years. Could do with a bit of TLC.in particular the bathrooms. My room had no air con just a fan. The windows only open slightly. Bar area and food very good If you are having full English great value I did not see a continental option which would have been good. My room faced the back and was a bit small, which was a shame as the view from the front rooms arevmuch better and the rooms larger. Staff friendly.

This was a business stay - and when I do stay away on business I always think “would I come back with my wife for a few nights away”, this venue is a definite no! The staff were pleasant enough but the tired bathroom, sagging bed, strange Wi-Fi and noise from the road meant the stay was very disappointing. Admittedly it was a last minute booking (on the day of the stay) and, being a large van driver I was slightly limited in choice due to parking but I expected more for the price. The room was basic and faced the drive to the main door, the “beer garden” and beyond that the main road. The single glazed windows meant all could be heard. The bathroom was very tired, with dirty grout on the tiles and mismatch tiling. It wasn't dirty just not appealing. The restaurant is a Marco Pierre White. The prices show it's attached to a celebrity chef, with most items £5+ over priced for a relatively small portion size. Also disappointing that cover charge is automatically added to both food and drink orders?! Breakfast was ok - with staff constantly topping up fruit juice ( why they did it only 1 carton a time every 5 minutes rather then 2/3 cartons at once I don't know) although had to ask for breakfast menu to order the hot food when I was told on entrance menus were on tables (none were) I get the impression the venue isn't very busy and so staff/housekeeping/funding has become a bit laps.

The hotel staff were very pleasant. We booked a small room and it matched the description and was fine for one night. The room was clean and had all we needed. If we were to stay longer, I would have booked a larger room as ours had a double bed and we are used to a king size bed. We ate in Marco's and that was very good food.

Fantastic food (both dinner and breakfast!!). Hotel was for from full but given room closest to a disco/party. A bit of effort tidying up the outside (1st impressions and all that...) would really make a difference.

Went to the Gables last night for a meal. Staff were very friendly but food was very poor it came out cold sent back 1 minute later it was back been in Microwave not whot you Expect in place like this would not go there again

Burns night . Lovely evening with business colleagues . We had pre warned the hotel about allergies. Lovely starter and Haggis course served. However main course contain the red cabbage I had been told that I wouldn't be served as it contained an allergen. I pointed this out to the server who took my plate then returned with it put it down and said "eat round it " I pointed out that it's not that easy .my plate was removed and returned on eating it was clear it had just been scrapped off .leaving the residue all over the remaining food . The beef on main course was inedible .we asked gor a steak knife and were still unable to cut or chew it . I have been left with a swollen and ulcerated mouth from my allergy . Just grateful I don't get more serious reactions. ALLERGY TRAINING NEEDED ASAP This can be life threatening

The stay was average at best and definitely not worth the money. All shower gel and handsoaps in the room were empty. Shower in the morning was tepid at best. The bath took so long to run in the evening I gave up. Dinner was expensive for what it was. The pasta extremely salty (and I like salty food) and the bar service was very slow.

I stayed at the hotel for business reasons and had not picked it myself. I decided to stay in the hotel restaurant for my evening meals out of convenience despite reading bad reviews online. I don't know why the rating is bad because the food here was excellent! Really well cooked and tasty. The restaurant itself is clean and well presented as were the staff. It was quiet when I visited which may have enhanced the experience for me, but I am writing this review in the hopes that more people will choose this venue! It deserves better recognition. The hotel room itself did feel a bit dated, but was ample for the type of stay I was there for.

Stayed at the Gables for 1 night with 3 other couples upgraded when checked in and was a big mistake. The room was very cold was like sleeping in a fridge waste of money given a portable heater which made no difference. The breakfast was cold and toaster not working. Have emailed a complaint to hotel and not had a response.

My wife and I had a lovely xmas lunch at Marcos,we chose the a la carte menu but the set menu also looked great. Good menu choice and fine quality and service. prices pretty good for a hotel restaurant

A clean, family run hotel. Lovely staff, large rooms. Very clean. Easy free parking. No lift so ask for ground floor if you have mobility issues Noisy road. Lovely large room and bathroom really clean. Very warm shower and beautiful shower gel. My mum was cold in the night so maybe a couple of blankets would be good in the room. We were in the middle of the cold snap though. Tea, coffee, water tray all good. Good buffet breakfast. Afternoon tea was lovely.

Just off the M5 in a very rural area is where this hotel sits. It's quiet and there is a decent restaurant on site (one of the Marco Pierre White chain) where I had a really tasty steak. Not a cheap dinner but the quality is worth it - I only mention this as for some doing solo travel for business etc overnight stays it's a drive to the next pub serving food. Anyway, rooms are tidy and clean if a little dated, but I come to this place every time I'm working nearby and will continue to do so. Staff are friendly and helpful.

The location of the hotel was great just of the motorway I rang the hotel requesting a ground floor room because of our mobility issues was done no problems the breakfast was excellent also the room shower could not find faulthu

We got there a bit late and we apologised for being 5 minutes late. We sat down and only 8 other people there. Waitress was new and no supervision as didn't even know correct name of the beers. After nearly 45 minutes and no drink we left. Will not be going there again.

Hotel was extremely cold upon arrival. Bedroom was okay once we turned the radiator on! Bed was comfy, bathroom clean. However the food at Marco's New York Deli was awful. We stayed on a Sunday evening and were told it was a limited menu - because it was Sunday and almost empty? I accept responsibility for booking this hotel, I didn't realise that Marco's was all that was available for food. Not good if you don't like pasta, piazza or burgers. I asked if they did bar food at lunchtime but was told only piazza or burger. The hotel itself was cold and "soulless". We will definetely not be staying thee every again.

We could not connect to the internet. The message we got was "weak signal" or "not available". The shower temperature control malfunctioned . It was way too hot and would not adjust cooler. The restaurant was poor quality and the breakfast best forgotten

Hotel room was tired and bathroom patched up one tap wasn't fixed to the worktop. Front desk staff were nice but a couple of the management people were officious and rude. In particular the dining experience was poor. Marco Pierre White restaurant is basically a standard pub dining experience - if you like burgers, steaks pizzas with a variety of fried sides then it's great but the association with / endorsement of a Michelin star chef is rather puzzling - fine dining it is not. Breakfast is buffet but, again, if you are not up for a full English then the options are limited. Some toast and individual serving cereals and fizzy bowl or fruit. The coffee is a choice of instant coffee or pre-mixed instant coffee - and nasty instant too. Also the crockery is straight from the hobbits house in lord of the rings, being so tiny you have to make multiple trips to the breakfast bar. In short if you need to stay somewhere it's ok but not great value for money however definitely eat out unless of course you really like re-heated or overdone, highly processed food.

Excellent evening we Dursley rotary club booked the Gables for our 70th anniversary meal, Had 105 people attending and the room was laid out perfectly James the duty manager and his team Looked after us really well, nothing to much trouble, would highly recommend for an event, A few of us took advantage of the room rate and stayed overnight great breakfast,

I was given a beautiful, must be newly decorated room. Has a great restaurant on site , also a eating in the bar area was good too for a solo traveller. I must say, as I stay in hotels a lot for work, the cleaning was exceptional! All the teas biscuits & water were replaced daily, room was perfect. When I left one morning I could see the cleaner in the corridors, singing to herself whilst spraying with lovely smelly stuff! She clearly loves her job as she was so cheery! Will be back soon

Managerial Staff went well beyond the call of duty in offering care and help when I had an acute attack of chronic asthma. All this on top of a clean and well-equipped room, friendly service and outstandingly good and copious breakfasts. Marginally more expensive than I expected but pretty good value just the same. I strongly recommend it.

Have just returned home following a one night stay at this hotel. Overall a very disappointing visit. The room was very dated by acceptable, but the bathroom was extremely dated and in dire need of a good clean up and updating. The grout around the tiles was dirty and yellow, The seal around the bath was black and broken in places. The bed was also in need of a change. We ate at the restaurant which is a Marcos New York Italian. They advertised an Autumn set menu online which wasnt available until Monday but the website didnt state this. We did ask the Manager about this but was told it was only valid Monday to Friday any so didnt see what the problem was (his words). Again this wasnt clear on the website. I did explain this but was told it would have been clearer on a PC rather than my phone. Overall a very disappointing stay at this hotel and we wont visit again. We have stayed at Best Western previously and been very impressed, this was very disappointing.

Chose to stay a night in the Gables hotel on route home from exploring Bristol for the day as the price was relatively cheap compared to other options on a Saturday night. Was not really expecting too much as it was just a place to relax and sleep but other reviews were quite good. I think the first thing to point out is that the hotel is a tale of two room types. The first being Granny's spare bedroom versus boutique chic. When we entered our given room my husbands first words were “well where are you sleeping..?” The bed looked like a big single bed. No bathroom light. We were then given another room which was much bigger but it's window had a view into the hotels reception entrance so curtains had to be closed for privacy. The room had an adjoining door. After being able to hear everything the guest next door was saying we felt uncomfortable speaking. At this point I thought I'll just quietly do a bit of research on the internet for the next days exploring only for there to be no signal in the room at all. Decided just to watch the tv. This didn't last long either as a disco started up for a birthday party function and I couldn't hear it. The one good thing was the room had a bath which I enjoyed. The room could also have been cleaner in areas. The hotel does have some good points such as parking, nice newly renovated bar area and modern restaurant and I'm sure if we had been given a newly renovated room we would have had a much better experience. Looking at several booking sites it's not entirely clear if booking an executive room you would be given one of the newer rooms or not. Breakfast is just ok. For being set in the Marco Pierre White restaurant it was a bit underwhelming. Have been in fancier Premier Inns. We had a drink in the bar and the beer didn't taste right.

I chose this for the location and the room was clean and functional. The bathroom was a little dated but everything worked fine. Didn't eat here but the bar prices were very reasonable. Would definitely book again.

fantastic, hotel, restaurant food and service was exemplary, staff were very friendly and i felt relaxed and the courses came at a great time, not rushed or hurried. the tiramisu was to die for, very light and fluffy

We did not book on a busy night, but the hosting team could accomodate us during seconds. Service was perfect, friendly and polite. Food was amazing, a bit pricey, but true to Marco Pierre White's name. Brand new, clean and tidy restaurant. We will be returning

This is my first experience in this hotel but it was very good , everyone try to help and make your stay safe happy and calm. The restaurant staff are excellent especially (Emma and Kahe ) ones you attend to the restaurant welcoming you with a smile and explain everything really thanks . The room was clean and nice,parking was okay.

My husband and I thought we'd give this restaurant a try as it's only a 15 min drive from where we live. We started with the rosemary focaccia bread which was lovely, then it went downhill from there! My husband had ordered the chicken crunch starter he offered me a piece to try which I accepted. I bit into it and then as I looked down at the chicken strip in my hand I could see that the centre was completely raw, needless to say I removed the piece that was already in my mouth. We asked a member of staff if we could speak to a manager who to be fair came over quickly, we made no fuss just showed her the chicken and she could see the problem! We opted to go straight to mains, she apologised and assured us it was a first and said she'd remove it from the bill. The least she could do! We'd both ordered steaks which were good but at no point did a member of staff come over to ask if everything was ok with our meals or check we were ok for drinks. Once we were finished a waiter came over and just took our plates, no “can I take your plates for you” or “how was your meal” Service was added to the bill which quite honestly we should have asked them to remove but we paid and left. I know they've only been open one month but the Management need to seriously sort out some staff training on customer service for their younger members of staff if they want the restaurant to thrive going forward. Unless we hear from local friends that they have had a really good experience there I don't think we would eat there again.

One of the worst meal I have ever had !!!!! On are trip to Devon we stayed at the Best western Gables hotel , My husband and I thought we would have a nice meal at the start are holiday . We were to be extremely disappointed as I'm vegetarian the choice was extremely limited . Consisting of Pasta with tomato and basil , mushroom pizza , Mac and cheese which I find sickly or beat root& Goats cheese salad , I then found a salad containing Avocado Anchovies & hens eggs , so I asked to have this without the the Anchovies . Imagine my reaction when my salad came minus the Avocado on the waiter asking if everything was ok ,I told him I hadn't found any Avocado,he said he would speak to the chef , Nothing happens !!!!! Are bill had a service charge added which we declined to pay Needless to say we will not be visiting a Marco Pierre white restaurant ever again. Yours disappointed

Lovely little room. Basic but nothing more needed for one night away. I would say bathroom's very Dated but can't fault it. Mpw perfect for an evening meal. Lovely staff nothing too much for them Would recommend for business trips!

I've visited many Best Western hotels for business trips up and down the country. This hotel is one of the best I've been to, made to feel very welcome by the staff. The restaurant and bar was busy due to a large party on that particular evening, the food that came out was still delicious and in a timely matter. The rooms are nice with all the condiments you'd expect. I will certainly be returning.

On arrival to the room I was shocked to see how dated it tired it looked in comparison to some of the rooms shown on the website. The room smelt stale when I entered it and when I went into the shower room there was a long hair dangling from the shower. The shower was also so small I had to step outside of it to apply soap. The bed was also extremely uncomfortable. I was only staying one night and it fulfilled the basics I needed but I wouldn't recommend it for a long stay. Positives included that the breakfast was reasonable , and the check in and check out process was efficient.

My room was clean and comfortable, and all the staff were friendly and efficient. I didn't sample the breakfast menu, but I had a very pleasant starter/snack in Marcos restaurant. Excellent value for money; highly recommended for every aspect.

A great experience. Having stayed in similarly priced chain hotels I was genuinely surprised how wonderful it was. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, excellent breakfast and state of the art lighting / fixtures and modern yet tasteful furniture and fittings. The Best Western hotel chain seem to have got it right in all respects.

Stayed over night to celebrate our wedding anniversary, hotel is dated but clean. Outside area could do with a tidy up, dirty tables and butt ends all outside the restaurant. Lucky we had one of the refurbished rooms which was absolutely tip-top. Reception staff, housekeeping and waiting staff all very friendly. Marcos restaurant for evening meal, however, is another issue, very limited menu and not good value for money for the brand name. Ordered steak which was cooked to perfection but over salted and the tiramisu was frozen in the middle and tasteless. Asked for liquor coffees but got limited options - only Jameson - and if there was a measure of whisky in there you couldn't taste it. Maitre De was rude and accused me of calling his staff "a bunch of idiots". Having worked in the hospitality industry I know how hard these people work. Staff should perhaps not eavesdrop on private conversations as this is nothing I would ever say. I demanded to be able to apologise to the member of staff but was fobbed off. Saying all that, the place was spotlessly clean, glasses and cutlery polished and breakfast was a total transformation. Stay again - yes. Restaurant for evening meal - no.

Lovely homely feel to this hotel. The decor of the rooms are a little dated but still tasteful. The beds are comfy, the room was adequately cleaned and the shower worked well. There is no air conditioning in the rooms but there are fans provided. The only bug with the location is that the hotel is located next to a main road and traffic can be heard throughout the night. Every member of staff we encountered was pleasant, polite and helpful. We didn't have breakfast here during our stay. We dined at the Marco restaurant once during our stay. The food was delicious and well presented. Although if I was to order again, I would choose a pizza.

Visited for celebration of GCSE amazing results… the restaurant has only been open a few days and it shows… poor service from start to finish… no happy welcome and a confused waiting team and a poor front of house manager… Ordered bread and olive's… didn't arrive… ordered £41.00 fillet and £27.00 ribeye which arrived but had to wait for steak knives for 5 minutes and whilst the steaks were good the presentation was poor… The other dishes were good… We had been in the restaurant for 1 hour and before we had finished our meal the manager said could he have the table back in 10 minutes, at no point when we sat down did he mentioned a time slot… we spent £180.00 in 1 hour on a standard rushed meal… I suggest to retrain or replace the team especially the manager who is more suited in a fast food diner… Don't waste your money thinking the Marco brand is going to amazing in this location as it normally is at other locations…

We arrived and it was very easy to register and the room was very clean. We watched the television and used our mobiles with the free wifi. Would definitely try another Best Western Hotel next time. and maybe have breakfast.

NEW Marco Pierre-White branded restaurant - new menu with very little choices for gluten free (I am also milk free) Steak at £27.50 We were told the burgers were gluten free, and there was a GF bun option, chef also stated this on arrival - however on checking label they contained Wheat! eventually served Chips, coleslaw Chicken Wings (Brought blue cheese dip) although aware I was DF! I realise no one has to serve GF options but when told they do and then it changes, apparently different stock of burgers it is disappointing! No apology from GM who did not event make us aware of his role - Had we been given the Webb group email I would have contacted them direct but unavailable

We were attending a wedding ceremony nearby and we stayed the night at The Gables Hotel. Location was convenient for us, and although it was by A38 we had a quiet and comfortable sleep. The time was in the middle of the heatwave and at first I thought we would have problem sleeping with only a small fan in the room. Glad I was wrong! The breakfast was excellent with many cooked and fresh options. The carpark was large.

We called in for lunch and had chicken/bacon and fishfinger sandwiches, coffee and coke all of which were great. Excellent, prompt service and good value for money. We'll defiantly eat there again. I've stayed here in the past and always found the hotel ok.

Dirty no frills rude receptionist..we where told room would be available for our party of eight told over the phone this was fine then when arrived charged £20 by receptionist…room smelt musty …couldn't open the window….everything was just grubby

The hotel is very nice the room was nice the and the staff really friendly and the breakfast was good . the only thing i found was the bed was slightly uncomfortable but other than that we had a great time thank you

We booked The Gables as a stopover on the way to Cornwall from Yorkshire and so pleased we did. The hotel room was clean, light and airy and the bed very comfortable. We ate in the bar restaurant and were impressed by the quality of food. Staff were friendly and helpful. It had been a warm day and whilst there was no air con, there was a fan which made the room more comfortable. Breakfast was available from 7.30 and to a high standard. Overall great overnight stay.

Bed was comfortable and breakfast good. Staff were a delight and went out their way to help you and make you feel welcome. Just one thing which could have been better - either be able to open windows or give client air conditioned rooms. Bedroom felt very stuffy. Overall a nice stay though

When we arrived we were delighted to find we had been allocated our favourite room 408 (this was the room we had when our eldest daughter was married in the hotel 8 years ago). The Manager Anthony had organised the room and also granted us a free dink. We could have organised an additional free drink by advising reception that our room would not require servicing during our stay. We opted not to take advantage of the drink, but advised housekeeping they could leave our room. After checking in we went to see our eldest daughter and her family, spending some quality family time with them. On returning to the hotel we grabbed a drink from the bar at 10.30pm, just in time for last orders. The barman was very polite and professional, unable to provide our first choice drink, apologising for being out of JD, but promising to restock for following day. The restaurant has been upgraded since our last stay and looks amazing. The continental section and coffee / tea area is a great improvement, as is the cooked breakfast buffet area. It was always good, but is now significantly improved. The great barman from the previous night was also on duty for breakfast and kindly advised us he had restocked the bar in readiness for our return that evening. After another great family day we returned to the hotel at 10.20pm, went to the bar and was refused service as the DM said bar was closed. This was extremely frustrating, made worse by her poor attitude. To add to my frustration there was an event in one of their large event rooms with a bar still open. My drink order could easily have been fulfilled had one of the three staff members present had considered that “Customer Service” in the Hospitality & Catering Industry was uppermost in their minds. The following morning we had another great breakfast with exceptional service from the barman who we found after chatting was from Hungary. He is exceptional. I feel awful for not getting his name, but hopefully he will be recognised. We have had many exceptional and very good stays at this hotel over the years and will return. Sadly Marco's doesn't open for another month, something to look forward to next time…

Went to a family party nearby, myself and my husband were given an upgraded room. We had checked in on line to save time, but still seemed to take a long time with the lady on the computer for ages. We then went into our room, along the corridor with plastic sheeting on the floor, entered the room, was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. However please rethink the bathroom. The towel rail in the shower cubicle where the shower only points directly at that wall, the shower screen was too short as our floor got soaked, the toilet roll holder was so far away you can't reach it, so have to take it off the holder and nowhere to put it, and then you have to close the toilet lid to flush the toilet! As good as it looks, really isn't functional at all

We returned to The Gables after the extended break due to COVID as our base-location to attend the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford as well as day trips to Bath and Bristol. In spite of the ongoing renovations to the hotel, our stay was excellent as always, the room was spacious, the bed was huge and very comfortable, and while we were running into the hottest period on record, we were able to sleep well. The evening dining was also very good while the restaurant and bar were being fitted out, the quality of food was very high and the service efficient. All in all, we had an great stay, The Gables always feels like a home away from home and can't wait to be back next year.

Only there for quick overnight stay whilst visiting family but all our needs for twin room, ground floor etc were perfectly met. This was our second stay this year and will certainly be our hotel B&B of choice in that area.

Stayed here for a local wedding and it was perfect. The staff are all really helpful and friendly. The room was clean and quite spacious with good storage space. They had the restaurant closed for refurbishment but it didn't make a difference as the bar and breakfast room was really comfortable and never felt overcrowded. The food was very good (especially the lamb burger). I aim to go back when the new restaurant opens later this summer, just as a treat. Although I didn't have a downside to this stay, there is no lift which might put off some people but the staff are willing to take luggage up and down for you. Also, it's right on the A38, but I had no trouble sleeping and think this is an advantage. The free Wi-Fi was great and a good connection. Overall, a really good place to stay.

Easy to find in a great location. Nice clean room with a huge bed perfect for an overnight stay on our way to Cornwall. Convenient car parking and a minute from junction 14 of the M5 The hotel provides a good restaurant for an evening meal and breakfast.

We've used this hotel a few times to stop off on our way to West Wales, largely because we can recharge our electric car there overnight, which is very useful and much appreciated. There's nothing wrong with it as such, but it's in need of some refurbishment and is just lack-lustre. It's in a good area for tourism, but on the main road and lacks character. Service quality is inconsistent; some staff are great, others haven't quite got what it takes. Very good breakfast though. Adequate for an overnight stop off but somehow needs to do better.

Loved this hotel and the staff. Although the restaurant wasn't in use the bar & breakfast room were adequate. Food was very reasonably priced and drink was to be as expected.Will probably go back at some stage.

Lovely hotel to stay close to M5. The staff were so polite and always willing to help. Food was tasty too. Special mention to the reception that was on duty Friday evening and Sunday morning, he solved our problem with missing plug so quickly.

Great location and should be a very convenient journey breaker or overnight stay. You have to feel sorry for the British hospitality industry post Covid, post Brexit and with one of the worst training and educational support systems in Europe. Hospitality is one of our most important businesses, and government has no planned support framework. Staff are mostly positive but are under pressure because of a shortage of staff. Breakfast is good, but evening meal less so. No lift, no wheeled trolley, and no help offered to first floor. There are ground floor rooms for those who can't manage stairs. Excellent parking. Plumbing (shower and taps) need updating. External windows need cleaning. I have spent several days trying to work out what's wrong here, because make no mistake, this could be a much better hotel. It seems to me that the hotel is organised for the availability of staff rather than the operational best. It's under trained, but the management is clearly doing it's best to support the staff.. This hotel is working hard to keep the show on the road, but the owners need to wake up to the certainty that the return on their investment is less than optimal. It could be so much better.

Our grandchildren treated us to 2 days away and we chose to go to the Gables.It was a lovely break the room was comfortable and the food good.The staff were so friendly and helpful that it made it a very pleasant stay. The hotel was very clean overall and we were very happy with everything.I would certainly visit again

Anthony and his staff are an amazing bunch of people, they make your stay really special and can't do enough to help. We had our wedding at the hotel which was the best choice we could have made. From start to finish they just wanted to please you. Nothing was an issue. The staff are all very friendly and the rooms are clean and hygienic. A massive thank you to you all from Rach and Steve

Great service clean and well serviced bedroom.Good food at competitive pricing will definitely revisit. Ideal for anyone wishing to visit Bristol and close to Park and Ride buses just off the Bristol bypass.

I have just stayed at this hotel for two days. The room was ok but very close to the busy road which woke us very early. The evening bar meals were good but the breakfast was disgusting, the cooked breakfast was supposed to be kept warm but was cold and the quality was poor. The staff on duty early morning simply didn't want to be there. Will definitely not stay there again.

The Gables hosted our recent family reunion for 40 family members of all ages and it was fantastic. The bar and waiting staff were friendly and really helpful, the food was good and the management were always on hand to answer any questions and make sure that our event was really successful. Highly recommend this hotel for any event, the Brackenbury Suite where our party was had its own bar in and was the perfect size for our party. Thank you Gables and your great staff!

Stayed here in January whilst visiting my son who lives close by. Had to unexpectedly stay again as I broke my leg whilst visiting my son again in March. The staff could not do enough for me, my husband and his guide dog, Gus. Every day when we went to breakfast, the ladies who service the rooms ensured that our room was serviced so that it was ready for us to use again after breakfast - without asking. They even made the dog's bed each day! Upon arrival, there was a clean dog bed, dog bowls and dog biscuits! The manager who was always present at breakfast ensured that we had the same table which was close to the buffet breakfast and he made and carried our morning coffees to the table to make things much easier for us. Again, all of this was carried out without us having to ask and as the title suggests - "it's the little things" that make a difference. The ladies behind the reception were a credit to the hotel, always professional, friendly and courteous and the bar staff on duty serving drinks and food in the evening were also very friendly and professional. A very pleasant stay, albeit the circumstances were unexepected and I wouldn't hesitate in booking this hotel again. Thank you so much.

Hotel was comfortable , clean and warm . Staff were polite , helpful and friendly . Our booking included breakfast which gave a good selection of choices and the cooked breakfasts were excellent . We chose to eat at the hotel in the evenings , menu was a little limited , which in the current climate was understanding . All dinners were hot , tasty and well presented . Would definitely stay here again .

I stayed in the Gables for a six week stay due to work commitments must say the staff and the hotel its self was fantastic, had no issues with the rooms or the cleanliness of them. The food was second to None, i worked through the menus and did not have one single poor meal

Very friendly, good breakfast exceptionally clean . There are only 2 dogfriendly rooms which unfortunately faced reception so the blind has to stay closed and the room was a little dated but the staff responded immediately to a complaint about the mattress and replaced immediately. A comfortable stay well thought out dog facilities

Disappointed that the room, especially the bathroom was cold - no heater or heated towel rail. Only bedside lights and none by the tea/coffee making facilities - could have been a health & safety issue. Duvets were very lightweight - not heavy enough tog rating for winter.

Stayed two nights at this hotel as we were attending a surprise birthday party on the Friday night. We arrived during the recent storm Eunice. Fortunately, the hotel was not affected. A very warm welcome from start to finish. I booked a single room, others had double, there was no difference in size with some of the doubles and my single, only difference was I did not have a bath tub, but it was more than adequate . Very clean throughout.

I had one the best hotel stay. Amazing and helpful staff room was lovely and clean food was delicious. A big thank you to all the staff. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone to experience

Perfect for Gloucestershire, Bristol etc. Super large King size beds. Some bathrooms are a little tired but the factor that trumps everything for us is that the hotel is warm! The rooms are cosy and the water is piping hot. Perfect for cold December days and nights when we stayed.

The uncertainty of travelling and staying in a hotel whilst visiting family for Christmas was a concern. Once we arrived and checked in we found the hotel was not busy and a number of staff had been granted family time off over the festive season. That helped regarding lower numbers. We were a little disappointed not to be allocated our usual room (it was apparently being decorated). Knowing our room would not be serviced during our stay also had a calming effect. The room we had was adequate for our needs, but considerably smaller than usual. Breakfast was to be eaten in the bar area due to pre booked Christmas tables in the main dining area. The breakfast buffet was equally as good as usual, helping set us up for each day… Thankfully the lack of evening meals was not an issue as we were visiting family and only required breakfast before leaving each morning. Prior communication regarding the restaurant would be beneficial in my opinion. The staff we saw were friendly and professional helping to maintain a clean and safe environment for our stay. We will use this hotel again due to it's proximity to our eldest daughters home.

The Gables was just what we needed to complete our Christmas break. We were spending Christmas with our family who live locally and needed somewhere that was friendly and good value for money close by. The staff who were working over Christmas were friendly and efficient. The food was good and we felt covid safe through out our stay. We did upgrade to the 4posterbed room with a jacuzzi bath, in hindsight, although there was nothing wrong with this, I think we'll stay in a regular room next time.

Lovely friendly hotel. We stayed one night to break a long journey. Food in the bar was good, breakfast great and service fantastic- especially Diane! The room was clean, a bit dated but good for the price. The hotel is a minute off the M5 - great choice,

The hotel itself is really nice but if you're looking for a decent meal forget about it! One small bowl of veg and one gravy boat between 11 adults, once the veg had been passed around and our group had added a very meagre amount of veg to their plates we ended up with five people who had no veg at all, the restaurant manager who was pretty rude about it informed us we would have to wait until all the other tables had been served before we could get any more veggies, by the time it had arrived all of our group had finished their food anyway and it was pointless. The meal was so poorly organised its a joke, avoid at all costs!!!!

I visited with friends for a meal Two weeks running. The first week we were served by an excellent waiter, Diane, that I showed my appreciation for her excellent service. The second week having followed all of the requirements of my Meercat card I was grossly abused by a manager struggling to keep regular clientele due to his gross mismanagement of the hotel. The bar area was so cold the few clients present had to keep their coats on. When I presented my card for payment he was aggressive and rude stating that I hadn't complied with the constraint of use. Having left the hotel when I got home I checked the limitations of use to find that I had complied with them all. I rang the hotel to discuss this with him to have the phone put down on me. This manager doesn't deserve any business, no wonder he is struggling.

Been coming here for along time now,our daughter lives near here so it's handy it's clean,great staff and great food very clean all bases covered hope to come back soon.We missed seeing Diane last time. We recommend this Hotel.

The title says it all really. Been here for 3 weeks and apart from the room being a bit dated it was clean and comfortable. Really enjoyed the stay. Staff were amazing and really looked after us. Defintly would come back.

Each time I stay at The Gables, I am really impressed at the high standard of cleanliness and freshness of my room, and also of all public areas of the hotel. The hotel staff are friendly, pleasant, and professional. This hotel is my first choice every time whenever I need to stay in the area.

Friendly staff greeted us and showed us to our Dog friendly room, which was prepared with dog bed, food and water - very impressed. The full menu was available to us in the bar, and even though there was a large function on, the service was excellent - highly recommended

Really good value. Did a three for two night stay. We were attending a wedding at Berkeley Castle. Ten minute taxi ride. Only bar food available but the pork chop was outstanding. Stayed in a spacious room with four poster bed. Would certainly recommend.

The original room allocated was next to the function from which had a function on that evening. I went to reception regarding a issue getting a signal on the tv and mentioned the function. Without further question we were moved to another room. This meant that we had a much quieter evening. The foot was excellent and the service and staff extremely welcoming Breakfast was also plentiful with welcoming staff. I particularly liked the self service for the tea and coffee. Will definitely consider returning next year to explore the area this visit was to attend a wedding at Berkeley castle.

We stayed at the Gables after attending a wedding and I have to say what a lovely hotel. The staff were lovely, the rooms clean and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent and so well laid out. The only slight issue for me was that I was chilly overnight so maybe could have done with an extra blanket and there was no info in the room about breakfast times or the WiFi code however this would not deter me from staying in this lovely hotel!

Friendly staff and nice food but rooms very tired and bathroom not very clean. Shower screen leaked leaving a puddle on the floor. Bath didn't drain quickly enough so stood in water while having a shower. Double bed on the small side but comfortable.

Two night BuyaGift break. Good welcome at reception and a good clean room.Restaurant not open but food available in bar. We had dinner in the bar both nights and the food was excellent. Buffet breakfast which was all good which was served in dining room. Morgan barman/waiter made us extremely welcome and gave excellent service. I hope tee Gables appreciate him.

The Gables Hotel was very clean the staff were very friendly. The food was excellent, we would stay there again. We had stayed there for two nights, the room was clean and tidy, we were told informed that as we were staying for two nights housekeeping would not be cleaning the room, until after we had checked out but if we wanted it cleaned they would have. This was due to the Covid rulings that were in place. All the staff were very friendly and followed the Covid rulings that were in place. I would recommend this hotel to people. The food was excellent, the only negative was that their restaurant was not open but we could order food from the bar and grill menu. We would stay there again. The only other negative is that the sign for the hotel was obscured by the tree and it could be a little bigger.

A nice clean and quiet hotel, with a relaxed atmosphere, appropriate Covid safety measures in place. Friendly staff, nice food, good varied menu and good prices. Nice choice of breakfast, full English or continental. Easy access from motorway.

We stayed for two nights at this hotel & would be very happy to book again Good self service breakfast offering cereals & hot food, we had excellent value evening meals & enjoyed drinks from a well stocked bar. Staff & management were very accomodating during our stay! The Gables is situated close to the M5 J14 providing easy access to Wetland Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge also Historic Gloucester's regenerated dock areas & cathedral are a short drive away. Berkely Castle is also a nearby attraction. Bristol to the south is within easy reach

A very good value D,B &B thank you, the room was clean and quiet (contrary to some other reviewers), the dinner was very good, with a good choice, and the buffet breakfast excellent. Can't give 5 stars because pillows were too hard, but that's all.

This was only a quick overnight stay so that we could attend our nephews 40th birthday party nearby. The hotel was clean and the staff that we met very pleasant. The breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. We would book again if coming to Falfield.

Amazingly beautiful hotel, clean and tidy room, exceptionally Friendly staff, great food we ate in the bar of the evening and in the restaurant for the hot food buffet will most certainly be back when next in the area. Highly recommended. We had two mountain bikes with us on our trip and the opened up a secure room for us to store them in.

Considering staff were very short handed, due to pandemic, they were cheerful, friendly and helpful. Food was very good and local beer good. Ideal stop off when doing long journey, close to M5 but very quiet setting.

We stayed here as part of a voucher deal, two nights B&B plus dinner on the first night. We've stayed in quite a few Best Western hotels both here and in the USA and have never been disappointed. The Gables was no exception. Our room and bathroom were spotlessly clean and well decorated…the only complaint from us was that the bed was too firm for us (like a brick!) but that's personal preference plus there was a droning noise which kept us awake. The rooms weren't being serviced during our stay but it was no trouble at all if you needed anything. Dinner on both nights were tasty and well cooked and the portions were large. A bit disappointed not to be able to use the restaurant due to staff shortages so we had to wait for a table to become available in the bar. Breakfast was also really good. It was all buffet style, including the hot food. Hand sanitisers were in all the public areas. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we couldn't fault the service. All in all we had a really enjoyable stay and would highly recommend The Gables!

The hotel is ideally situated, a few minutes from M5 , and we were pleasantly surprised as some of the reviews we read were very negative. Jasmine on reception was very pleasant, efficient and friendly. Our room was very clean, comfortable and we both slept extremely well. We were not expecting 5 star luxury and in our opinion we got good value. if anything the rooms could do with a small upgrade to bring it up to date. The restaurant and bar were great. Nice seating and we really enjoyed our evening meal. The food was very tasty,. Our waiter Morgan was a very pleasant and efficient young man. He couldn't do enough and was very attentive. We also enjoyed breakfast and couldn't fault any of the food. Plenty of choice with tea, coffee, juices, toast, yogurts, fruit and bacon, sausages, eggs etc. It was really nice and I loved the sausages!! The croissants and pastries were a nice touch. We really enjoyed our short stay and would return without any hesitation.

I have stayed several times at the Gables and always appreciate the friendly welcome. In this instance Jasmine on Reception was a star, making check-in very easy and offering plenty of helpful above-and-beyond gestures. Dinner and bar service was quick and friendly too. I had a king bedroom with a four-poster and a whirlpool bath. The Gables is very easy to locate, just off the M5.

The hotel is dated, broken and disgusting. It is in need of a major refurbishment to update it and redecorate. We were moved from one room where the wheel was missing from the bed, mattress was knackered and sheet was ripped. Room two, the toilet roll holder fell off on its own, the heating didn't work and the room was disgusting. To evidence the lack of attention to detail, £2 was left on the bedside table and wasn't picked up by housekeepers. However, if you saw the filth around the bedside table, I would say very little time is spent cleaning these rooms. We left and I'm still awaiting a refund now.

We stayed here in June and had a nice couple of days. The Covid protocols were in place and being observed by most people. Our room was a little small but clean and in a quiet area as requested. We sat outside as the weather was so nice and enjoyed a couple of drinks in the patio area. The food and the service were good and we would certainly stay again if in the area.

Stayed at The Gables for one night. We arrived early, but after a short wait we were allowed into our room. Nice sized room with queen bed. Everything was clean but maybe showing signs of needing refurbishment. We had booked on a bed and breakfast basis. The breakfast room was light and airy with a good selection of fruit juices, cold and hot items. Everything was on a self service basis. Plenty of choice on the hot breakfast, infact the breakfast was faultless…….one of the nicest hotel breakfast we have had for a while….. Hotel is ideally placed just a short distance from the M5, and has a nice large carpark……. Would i stay again………….if i needed to, then yes………

Hotel is very dated and rooms very tired looking. However couldn't fault the service or food. Breakfast both mornings was good and evening meal on the Friday was very good too. I personally wouldn't go back as I like a better standard of room but if you're looking for a base with good service and not pricey this is ideal.

The hotel was in a nice location, overall cleanliness of the room was not too bad, there was dust in the corners of the room, I'm finding this wherever I stay lately, it was a double sink the one sink was clean the other one was stained, it just needs that extra bit of tlc the bed was lumpy one of the worst nights sleep I've had in a while, bed linen and towels were very clean, the hospitality tray was stocked well, I suggest you put two packets of biscuits and 2 sachets of hot chocolate instead of the one if two people are in the room, overall though very good

We enjoyed our stay and the benefits of visiting local attractions. Our room was comfortable and, with no room service at present, reception were always helpful. Breakfast was good and set us up for the day. With the restaurant not open in the evening and only bar meals available, we cannot comment further.

Room was clean but bed was rock hard. There was a party on and we were ground floor on the car park so could hear everything. Very disappointed that I asked for gluten free at breakfast and was given vegetarian bacon that obv isn't gluten free as I'm now in severe pain and have to work all day as a wedding photography with a very sore tummy. There was very little option for gluten free guests if I'm honest.

Recently stayed here and couldn't leave quick enough. Room was filthy and smelt like stale old water / drains. Thick layer of dust over the radiator. Yellowing in the sink. Very small bathroom - literally had to stand on the toilet to get out the shower. At breakfast I was shown to a table which was clearly used before me (milk jug was half empty and hadn't been refilled). Food was very basic, however staff are very friendly. Whole place needs a bit of TLC.

This was the worst experience I have ever had in an hotel. I was woken up at 12.30am by loud and continuous noise from the Lounge Bar area, and the noise continued until around 4am. I was prevented from getting any further sleep until after 4am. I went down to the reception to complain on three separate occasions, but nothing was done about it. I have since been trying to get a response to my complaints from two operations managers at this hotel and Best Western, but without success. You can tell a lot about a business by the way it handles complaints, what I have learnt from this experience is 'Don't stay at this, or any other Best Western hotel'.

We had room 217 which appears to be an upgrade. Four poster bed jacuzzi bath and complimentary bar of chocolate but did ask for a donation as were trying to raise money for charity. I was very grateful for the jacuzzi bath I have been suffering with severe sciatica and the bath was most beneficial. The lighting was a bit below par appears that they have halogen lamps in the ceiling and low watt fluorescent in others that take s time to warm up. Would be better if they were all LED. one of the lights over the bed was faulty. It wasn't an issue. We were there for an RAF reunion and Gala Dinner. On the whole the meal was very good although the beef was a bit tough, which was a shame. Would certainly stay again

We have had a couple of fantastic days at The Gables, the room was spacious and very clean, The staff could not have been more helpful, Food was fantastic and the breakfast was superb, very tasty, Proper belly busting, if you left there hungry it was your own fault

Room was spacious, breakfast and staff at breakfast very good. On arrival I wasn't advised of the room cleaning arrangements nor was there any details on the written information given. Trying to get room service on the first night was a real battle. Instead of being informed that there were problems with the equipment in the kitchen the person I spoke just kept telling me my choices weren't available! Eventually after some toing and froing I was told there was a limited menu but there had been no time to let everyone know! Why not post it at reception? When I did finally find a suitable menu choice it was very good. Decided to eat elsewhere the last two evenings as the choice was still limited even though the receptionist said the issues had been resolved.

Stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful and apologetic about the limited menu for dinner on first night as problem with grill. Food was very nice and breakfast was good. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family.

Room 222. No housekeeping (lack of staff). No fried eggs at breakfast (lack of gas). No restaurant service. No nearby amenities. Shower thermostat stuck on scalding hot. Duvet too small for the 4'6"bed. Booming music until midnight on both Friday and Saturday, followed by people being sick in the car park. Nice enough bar area but the outside seating area is essentially a bit of hard standing next to a busy road. Won't be going back!

Stayed here for two nights and really enjoyed it. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable and had everything we needed but was a little outdated. Had really good sleeps in a nice comfy bed. We ate in the hotel one night and the food was lovely. Breakfast was great with lots of different options. It's right next to a busy road but once inside the hotel it didn't cause any issues. Lots of free parking. In a good location to visit lots of the towns and villages in the are such as Bath, Gloucester, Cheltenham and right on the edge of the Cotswolds.

Staff were friendly the food was good free drink vouchers if you did not want your room cleaned on a daily basis. Breakfast was standard thing just got fed up with bacon and sausage each day Plenty of cereal and other things you can have. Social distance was meintened and everything was cleaned Free WI to was a plus as I was on 3 network signal was poor Overall experience was excellent would choose great western hotels again . If you use post code in on your sat nav it will take you past the hotel

Our first visit to a Best Western hotel. The location is ideal for touring Gloucestershire being just off the M5. The hotel is looking tired and could do with updating. Our room was pleasant and clean although quite dark with the dark furniture. The hotel is on a busy road but the traffic didn't bother us. The beds were very comfortable. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed all weekend although the same menu could be served in the bar. As the menu is limited we dined out. Buffet breakfast, hot and cold is served in the restaurant. The breakfast staff were very pleasant and attentive, sometimes too attentive at clearing away utensils we might have wanted to use again! Overall it was a pleasant stay. As this is obviously a popular hotel it would be nice to see it updated , especially first impressions, the exterior.

We had a very comfortable stay, the room was a bit dated and had loads of storage, it had just what we needed for a couple of nights stay. We took our dog with us and the hotel was very accommodating and made sure the dog had what she needed in the room and we were reserved a table in the main bar so we could take the dog for breakfast. All the staff were very nice and friendly and made us feel very welcome. We definitely would return to the Gables.

I'll admit my first impression of the room was that it was tired and all round a bit old school but - we quickly realised how good old school could be. Good size room, great bathroom with 2 sinks and loads of counter space for toiletries etc, really comfortable bed and all spotlessly clean. Loads and loads of parking even though the hotel was fully booked. Breakfast was great - lots of choice and both hot and cold options were great. We ate in the bar as the restaurant was fully booked both nights we were there and we were surprised just how good the food was. There was a wedding reception being held on the Saturday afternoon and evening but despite how busy the hotel was, there was no disruption to the service to other guests and we weren't disturbed by the noise at all. It was great to see a family run hotel so busy after the last 18 months. The service was impeccable at all times and nothing was too much trouble - the best of old school service. Overall we really rated our stay and would wholeheartedly recommend.

The Gables is a few hundred yards off the M5 about 12 miles from Bristol. The hotel is on a fairly busy A-road but not intrusively so. The traffic died down as the evening progressed and I slept well in a very comfortable bed (I'm rarely satisfied with bed comfort no complaints here). Slimbridge is near, lovely villages and a plethora of wonderful gardens to visit. Cribbs Causeway Mall is great for shopping. The Severn Bridge isn't far and the Forrest of Dean. Excellent stop of travelling from the north and you need a stop-over. I stayed 4 nights

It was an ok visit. Very much it appeared a ‘white van man' type of place they use to stay over when they are working locally. Rooms are small. The bed kept moving across the room which was very annoying. Otherwise it was an ok visit.

We stayed 2 nights whilst playing a cricket match in Bristol. The welcome was good and the staff very friendly and professional at all times. They were taking appropriate covid precautions. The room was large and clean with decent bathroom complete with a bath and a shower over the bath. The only real problem with the room was that it faced the A38, at about 20 yards distance, this is noisy rood and surprisingly busy throughout the night. This meant that the windows had to be kept closed and this made the room very warm. Even with the windows closed you could hear the HGVs passing. As a compensation for the room not being serviced a voucher was given for a free drink in the bar, this was a nice touch. Breakfast was very good with a buffet of both hot and cold food, the sausages and bacon were both excellent quality. We had one evening meal at the hotel, fish and chips, which was OK. If staying ask for a room at the back.

Ideal location to break a North - South West journey, just off Motorway, but surprisingly quet location. Parking good, standard of accoimmodation is always good, and cleanliness too. On this occasion we had an inviatatioin to a meal, so did not use the restaurant for evening meal.

Stay here quite often while working away from home and have done for a few years now. I was classed as a key worker and used this hotel whenever it was available. Always friendly and rooms always clean and well equipped. Great food served too. Will be returning in a couple of weeks for another work related stay.

We have just got home to Spain after a trip home to see family. We booked here for two nights to see family in the local area. Due to Covid I carry cleaning wipes to wipe handles etc in the room it was spotless!! So clean and fresh. The hotel is a little tired and dated however the staff more then make up for that , the reception desk, so kind and informative, lovely bar staff and waitress, The breakfast lady on duty on the days we were there was so..so lovely and nothing was to much trouble. If only if all the hotels could have been this good on our trip . The breakfast was excellent. A great stay.

Excellent hotel with very professional staff throughout. Very clean and easy to find. Food was very good and wide choice of refreshments. Very good value for money and would highly recommend. Fresh smelling also.

The hotel is welcoming and rooms comfortable. Good shower with plenty of hot water. Just stayed one night on the way to Somerset. Nice breakfast and friendly staff. Will stay again if the opportunity arises

The hotel is on a busy main road but convenient for travel on the M5 or into Bristol. The restaurant was closed due to staff shortages and food served in the bar. This was a small area with few tables so was difficult to get a seat but the staff were extremely accommodating and did their best in a difficult situation. The quality of food was good both in the bar and at breakfast. A special mention goes to Diane who worked calmly and efficiently whist engaging with the customers. Having said that every member of staff worked tirelessly to provide a good experience and should be praised. Beds were very comfortable and rooms clean.

Stayed for a single night whilst away on business, received a free upgrade due to my Best Western rewards. Pleased with a nice clean room complete with a 4 poster bed and Jacuzzi bath, however the bed was very creaky and the Jacuzzi bath didn't work!!! I also experienced quite a lot of noise from passing traffic. The restaurant was shut but bar meals were being served from a very limited menu. Breakfast was good and plentiful.

Vegan options pretty poor, only 2 main courses, I had Vegetable and Bean burgers, mass produced junk food, not very nice. Manager said afterwards they were struggling to recruit staff and that's why they were buying in prepared foods! That is understandable, but does not excuse buying cheap mass produced junk food and selling it at premium prices. Dessert was a joke, only vegan option was fruit salad from the 'kids' menu! I didn't bother. None vegan food choice was good, although my wife sent her fish and chips back as it was a strange yellow colour and tasted very dry. Breakfast for a vegan was again poor, when specifically asked what hot vegan options were available I was told only mushrooms and tomatoes on the hot buffet. Again the manager said afterwards that I should have been offered vegan sausages and facon as these were available! obviously the staff on the day couldn't be bothered! But you get charged the same as everyone else but are not offered much, toast and cereal, as they did have soy milk and vegan spread.

My friend and I had a great couple of days here used it as a base . The room was nice and clean had tea and coffee facilities, TV . The staff were very friendly and helpful my friend had a funny turn . The food was great, nice variety. They even catered for my yorkiepoo Lou, put a bed , water and food bowls in room with a few treats . Had enjoyable stay.

Stayed here Monday to Wednesday 12th to 14th July on a Living Social deal. the staff were really pleasant friendly and polite. Room was clean with a comfortable bed. The deal included a one course evening meal on the first night. As it was excellent, we rebooked for the second night. Breakfast was excellent too.

I found the hotel good for visiting many places of interest as it was very close to the M5.The staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the breakfast and evening meals twice on my stay and found the food very good with a good choices. The only faults I found was the bedrooms were very clean but could do with updating. There was nowhere you could walk to you had to drive to a pub or some were else to eat.

bad check in , plumbing noisy , room noisy due to outside terrace, no a/c , fan noisy , lights did not work correctly , toilet cistern was loose, noise from adjacent rooms using taps /toilet. My wife and I stayed here for one night. The staff were friendly and helpful room was clean with en suite, tea/coffee facilities, tv,wi-fi. Had an evening meal and breakfast both if with were very good,the bar area was very pleasant and relaxed with outdoor seating. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

My husband and I enjoyed a two night stay, which was a gift through a buy a gift voucher. I agree that the hotel is looking very tired decoratively. Hopefully this will be addressed when the industry gets back on it's feet. Our room was clean and we had ample tea and coffee. We thought the staff were all lovely and very friendly. We had dinner in the restaurant, the food was very good and breakfast was great too. We were in the bar on busy football match nights and the bar team were excellent, I don't think there was a time when anyone had an empty glass, the staff were always checking to see if further drinks were needed. The location of the hotel is it's big bonus as it's very close to the M5, but I should point out far enough away so it's not noisy. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The hotel is dated, however they were revamping the conference suite but have had 15 months through covid to do it. Towels were frayed and holes including the bed covers. Food was nice but the service was poor example breakfast left us waiting to be seated while two cleaned tables instead. Room was dirty and understand covid room protocols but only towels for one and lack of coffee etc had to ask reception. However if they are not going to make up rooms you would think more facilities would be provided. I hate chasing round hotel for supplies. They make a point of pointing out they will not be cleaning rooms however the room was not cleaned to start with or toilet was very dirty all around the sides and floor.

The property looks tired but the room was clean although the pillows were small and hard. I had room service and chose the burger with vegan Mayo and coleslaw but they couldn't provide the Mayo or coleslaw. I also asked for non dairy milk and was told they didn't have any. I put my tray outside my door when finished and was told someone would collect it however it was still there at 9.15am when I checked out the following morning

The hotel is a little dated, but on the whole the staff are friendly and accommodating, the menu due to COVID restrictions is a little restricted, but is clean and comfortable for a short break and ideally situated for the M5

My wife and I visited our eldest daughter and her family for the first time in almost 12 months. We were made to feel very welcome and safe. Our usual room request was catered for (408). Breakfast was a little different, still buffet style but served. We had a meal on our first night with our family. The service and food were great. The location is perfect for our needs and we have stayed many times at this hotel. We would not want to stay anywhere else when visiting the area.

My wife and I stayed here recently for two nights on a BuyaGift experience and we found the staff very helpful and pleasant. We asked a member of staff where were the best places were to visit nearby and he mentioned Bath and Bourton on the Water amongst a few places. We decided to visit Bath which is only about 40 minutes drive and then went on to Bourton. Both lovely places to visit and close to the hotel. The evening meals were excellent and plentiful, definitely recommend. The only fault we found was the cleaners didn't change the towels. We mentioned this at reception and were told that they were only changing them when guests checked out which we thought wasn't that good, but they did give us fresh towels at reception so that did help but we think that towels should be changed automatically if used. However, I would recommend this hotel especially if you're thinking of visiting the area.

Nice hotel, staff were very helpful and service was great. Would use again and would recommend. Would like to suggest maybe in the future to look at arranging Halal food if possible - it would give more of a better experience with the chefs cooking.

Stayed here on a wowcher last minute deal for 2 nights and it was fabtastic. Lovely hotel in a great locarion to explore both Bath and the Cotswolds. The food was great, fresh and tasty and a great selection on the menu. Rooms were clean and bright and the jewel in the crown was the lovely staff. These guys cannot do enough for you and they are so friendly. For a 3 star hotel this was a treat and i would defo recommend.

To borrow a phrase from Mary Poppins ---- practically perfect in every way - its very hard to find anything negative to say about this lovely hotel so I'm not going to try-it is every thing you could ask for in a country hotel-all good-good food,good staff , good comfort etc etc --no problem we will return.

We spent a night at the Gables and the staff are all fab. Very helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much for them. Everyone had smiles on their face. It was our anniversary while there so I asked could they do a cake etc. They gave us two glasses of presecco and did this cheesecake for us. Our evening meal was delicious. Didn't wait long for food and was piping hot when being served. Those chips!!!!! The room and hotel was spotless. Great position. Yes we will be coming back. We visited bourton on the water on our way, that is such a lovely village to visit and not too far away.

Had a week at the gables and found all the staff very friendly and helpful.we reported a fault with the shower but this was repaired by the time we finished breakfast As regards to the restaurant all the food was prepared and cooked on the premises to a high standard and you should try their afternoon tea

We had such an amazing Sunday lunch at The Gables - it was the first Sunday that they started serving roasts again and everything was amazing! Portion sizes were fantastic, food was delicious and service was quick and efficient. We had food plated and vegetables and cauliflower cheese to share in the middle. It was one of the best roast dinners I've had in a long time!

Great hotel with very friendly staff. The staff were very helpful and understanding booking me in due to being let down by another local hotel at short notice. The De Vere Tortworth Court could do with taking some advice on customer/guest services from the team down at the Gabels Hotel.

Exceĺlent as always no matter what the circumstances the staff are always friendly and rooms and food excellent. Stayed here on business many times and always look forward to going back! Anthony and his team always look after you well and even in these challenging times make you feel welcome.

I arrived alone for a weeks stay whilst working / training locally. The carpark was well covered with cctv so I felt my vehicle was safe. The room was clean, well stocked with tea facilities and warm. Equally important there was an abundance of hot water and the tv worked very well. Staff were welcoming, helpful and the food was worthy of a mention of thanks to the kitchen. They happily swapped my paid breakfast for a lunch everyday, which was equally good and more than enough for working outdoors in the winter. Would stay again and recommend happily.

I have been using the Gables Hotel for a few years now (pre and post COVID 19) as have most of my colleagues. The staff here never fail to provide a friendly and professional service. The facilities are good as is the food (bar or resteraunt) the hotel is conveniently located 2 minutes from the M5 and 10 minutes from Bristol. This hotel has my strongest recommendation my staff and I will continue to use the Gables for the foreseeable future.

We have stayed here for the past two nights on a buy a gift voucher we got Given as a Christmas gift . The hotel was brilliant it was clean and in a good area . The staff were lovely so so nice and hard working. The cooked breakfast was So tasty I would even say it was the best cooked breakfast we have had in a hotel. We will be back to stay !

Very pretty from the outside and well decorated inside. Rooms aren't particularly large but fine for a few days. Bed was very comfortable. The hotel was very clean. Staff were friendly. Food was average but didn't ruin our time. Our only concern was a delivery outside our window at 6am. As the hotel wasn't full it would have made sense to put us on the front side so this didn't wake us. Location is fantastic, Bristol, Gloucester and stroud all so near and beautiful scenery.

We had a lovely big twin room (405) which was warm and cosy and included a bath in the ensuite which I love. The Covid 19 measures put in place were good and we enjoyed our breakfast and evening meals. All the staff were professional and smart and coped well with the present difficulties. Well done everyone!

The highlight for us was the service. Perfect in every way and way above what we have experienced in hotels with more stars. Definitely 5* service in a 3* hotel. The beds and pillows very soft and comfortable but a choice of a firmer pillow would have been welcome and we shouldn't have had to ask for a hairdryer! The food was excellent and always served hot. Choices were offered when we couldn't see exactly what we wanted. Overall we'd still come back.

This was our second visit to the hotel for a weekend away to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It is strange staying in a hotel with so few guests. The hotel is spotlessly clean and COVID compliant. The staff on duty throughout the weekend have been friendly and helpful. We had a four poster room which is a lovely size, well layed out, and one of the most comfortable beds of any hotel room we have stayed in. The bath is nice and deep and lovely for a relaxing soak after a long drive. Unfortunately the jacuzzi part didn't work. Breakfast was excellent with gluten free sausages, toast and cereal offered as part of the usual fare. We had one evening meal and the food was well cooked and tasty. I again would recommend this as an ideal base. When things return to normal I'm sure this hotel will be vibrant and busy as it was before.

Stayed here for one night prior to our trip to Cornwall. Great attention made in light of Covid 19 and felt very safe. Have to commend the staff that were on duty that night as they were exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and as it was my birthday we received an upgrade and an extra special dessert! Food was excellent both at dinner and at breakfast. It was the staff that made it memorable as they were so friendly and attentive and of course the very comfy bed and duvet! Will definitely return.

Stayed three nights at this Hotel was a bit worried about COVID problem but this Hotel had taken all measures to insure residents were safe. Food and Breakfast very good Enjoyed our stay at this difficult time

We stayed for 2 nights and found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. During our visit the rules on COVID-19 changed and we thought that the changes were implemented well at very short notice. We found the food very good, both evening menu and breakfast. As with many hotels it is beginning to look outdated but all areas are cleaned to a high standard.

Although the hotel is modern and well appointed I've unfortunately had to rate it low after observations during our 2 night stay. The enforcement of safety measures for Coronavirus was sorely lacking with numerous people allowed to check - in without masks and walk around the hotel likewise. Many of the staff seen not wearing masks or challenging those that didn't. Our safety unfortunately was put at risk, due to lack of procedure and enforcement and spoilt an otherwise pleasant stay! This hotel could learn greatly from other hotels in the Best Western Group that give guests and staff reassurance by their policy and enforcement!!

Had 2 nights at the gables and really enjoyed our time there . The staff especially Natalie were very hardworking ,friendly and helpful. The food was also very good and well presented. The room was very clean with nice fluffy towels .Would recommend this hotel for anyone that wants a short break away .

This was purchased as a Xmas gift and was postponed due to Covid. Feeling nervous about the whole trip but really didn't need to be. The hotel had all this in hand from checking in,the bar,restaurant and checking out. Really impressed by all the staff we encountered and very friendly. Food was lovely. Only criticism is that the room was a bit dated and needed some tlc but as we dont go away to spend any amount of time in the room this didnt detract from our visit at all.

We use this hotel yearly on our way back from Torquay. There is a large car park so we can easily park our 2 boats and jet ski without disturbing others. It's very clean and the beds are very comfortable. The staff are friendly. The Restaraunt is very nice and the food good value for what you get. I would recommend the penne arrabiatta with chicken on top. Honestly the best I've had of this. I would love to have the recipe! This hotel is ideal if you are towing to or from the south west on the M5 and want a stop over before Devon or Cornwall. Highly recommended for boaters and caravaners.

Stayed two nights at The Gables in order to visit Bristol. The staff are friendly and we had a positive experience from reception onwards. The hotel was very clean and there were plentiful hand sanitisers and the staff paid attention to Covid-19 security for the guests.

We had an excellent meal here on Saturday, the quality of the food was outstanding. The steaks were particularly good and everything was served piping hot. The sticky toffee pudding was also one of the best we had ever had, well done.

The hotel was clean and well organised and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was dog friendly and the staff arranged for us to have our meals in the bar so we could have our dog with us.

I love the Gables, as I got married there last year. We wanted to return for our 1st anniversary, but sadly Covid put paid to that, so hopefully we will return as a couple soon. This visit was just myself and my 2 children, as a mini getaway. Felt very nostalgic returning to the Gables, as the last time I was there was for my wedding. The hotel was clean and welcoming as always. My only small criticism, is our room was very dated and could do with a revamp to bring it a bit more up to date. Aside from that, we had a lovely stay and breakfast was lovely. A great value hotel, with friendly staff.

Really good base for other places, we went to Bristol, Bath and Longleat from here. Very warm atmosphere, all staff friendly and welcoming. Pre-covid I imagine their food menu is a lot more vast to choose from, but what was on offer, really good and a fantastic presentation.

The staff are brilliant and work hard to help out so very happy. My meal was very good and only a minor point that the Arriabata could be spicier It is next to A road so room a bit noisy but that's about it. Brekkie was good

We've just returned from a 3 night stay at the Gables with our Labrador, what a lovely surprise on our arrival to find a large ground floor room that had easy access to the car park & outside area, it was ideal for anyone with a dog. There was also a lovely doggy bed & bowls with treats, we were very impressed as was our dog who immediately scoffed the treats & made herself comfy on the doggy bed. Lovely friendly & polite staff who made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was included & it was great that we were able to eat in the bar with our dog. We only had one evening meal at the hotel as we were visiting our daughter in Bristol but the meal we had was very good. The hotel has easy access to the M5, Bristol. & the surrounding areas, we will definately be returning to the Gables when we're in this area again.

Firs time we staying in Falfield because we want to visit Clifton Suspension Bridge and Bristol City. Near Cleverdon Beach and Stroud (cotsworld). I recommended rooms 403, very quiet overlook field and our car. We have a lovely dinner on the first night. Staffs were tremendous helpful and kind. Food is excellent thanks to the chef. Very spacious in bar you can sit outside. Not much view in the restaurants. Room are spacious and clean. Bed is comfortable. Pillows a too soft for me. Bathroom double sinks and bathtub. I can sign in my Netflix and Amazon in my room. Facilities are limited no pool or gym. We head over to Huntsman for lunch on the second day. Nice pub. Food was average and a bit pricey. Staffs are friendly.

We have been before Everything well organised and safe Evening meal with drinks all done via the app no cash Breakfast - not buffet, order service, brilliant because it was nice and hot, I much preferred it that way and hope it stays, surely not so much food waste.

We have stayed at The Gables a number of times in recent years. This time it was just my daughter (aged 12) and me, visiting family who have been shielding (hence we didn't stay with them). It was incredibly hot so we wouldn't have slept massively well anywhere, but the beds were superbly comfortable, the sheets crisp cotton, and the blackout curtains meant a totally dark room. The shower was great and the breakfast very good, as it always is. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and efficient. The "COVID" precautions were in place but did not affect our enjoyment - so well done to all the staff. Also, excellent value. All in all, a very pleasant stay. We hope to be back soon.

Excellent hotel Anthony and his teamwent the extra mie to ensure our break was great. Excellent evening meal and breakfast. At the moment the evening meal menu is limited due to Covid but there is something for everybody with a special. Lovely room our little dog loved it did'nt want to come home!

Couldn't fault the Gables especially in these hard times. My wife and I had our wedding reception here and could fault the food or service we had then, we've revisited several times since for meals and still can not fault the place, the staff or service we received. Highly recommended and will be going back.

Checked in easily and friendly staff. Room had cobwebs on the wall lamps. Water was extremely hot, safety hazard. No staff for 10 minutes while waiting to be seated for our evening meal. Overpriced drinks. No staff around when we checked out.

My wife and I had not seen our eldest daughter and her family since before lockdown. Having stayed at the Gables many times previously, we were delighted to find it reopened after lockdown. We booked originally for one night, however after checking on their post Covid strategy we decided to stay for two nights. When we arrived our check in with Jason was seamless and very easy. Having previously checking in on line our key was ready in a sealed envelope and we simply had to pop our card in the PDQ machine then enter our pin. The machine was cleaned before and after use. Our room was clean and had been fully sanitised prior to our arrival. We had to request a hair dryer which had been removed for cleaning and sanitation. Having fewer towels and less soft furnishings in the room was not an issue. Having to shake our duvet out to make the bed after our first night was also not an issue. Natalie the hotels front of house manager was her usual bubbly self and made us feel relaxed, welcome and safe. Doubling up doing many of the other hotel duties did not phase her. The stay was a little different to previous ones, still enjoyable and friendly with a served breakfast instead of the usual buffet. We will return and hope many other regular guests do so too.

Just returned from a stay at the Gables for 1 night. Everything was perfect and we where very impressed by the staff. All where friendly and put our safty first. Although the menu was limited due to COVID we had a first rate meal of steak, which was cooked to perfection, and the onion rings were divine. The ice cream was lovely too even when served by the chef. Breakfast was first rate with everything plated for you and cooked fresh. Well done to all six staff who are running the hotel at this trying time. I would like to say that the king size room we had was a lot bigger than we expected and the bed was a super king size which was a very pleasant surprise. Thank you all for such a wonderful stay.

Had to stay close to the m5 & this hotel seemed good value for money. Was a hot night though it could have been worse, but I would stay here again. Pleasant staff, clean rooms & easy parking. All in all a good experience!

As always the hotel does not let us down welcoming staff , clean and warm food was delicious once again hope we will be going back again soon when we are able with all what's happening right now great little place

Stayed at Gables Hotel for two night break, on bed and breakfast basis. Very easy to find, very friendly staff and excellent service. Full English was very good, tasty, local produce and well prepared. Room was good size, with bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities and a very comfortable bed ensured good quality sleeping. Only down side for me was that it's a distance from Bristol and appeared to have no public transport link. Park and ride signage for Bristol is very poor, so ended up driving into City centre. Would definitely return to the Gables Hotel and recommend it to others.

Late booking for a near by wedding. Early check in helpfully and swiftly accommodated, vegetarian breakfast options happily catered for, all staff extremely helpful and welcoming, service exceeded my expectations, no complaints

We come here twice a year for the Chris Jones Reptile meeting. It is a Very nice hotel. The hotel is Always clean and the staff are always polite and very helpful. The buffet food is always very nice.

Beautiful hotel, food was great and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Everything was very clean, parking was adequate, and the venue was beautiful. The staff made us feel welcome and were friendly and accommodating even though they were very busy. Will be visiting again soon. Perfect venue for booking a party or wedding.

Another stay at the Gables and they continue maintaining their high standards. I've been here a few times now and can thoroughly recommended it. Again, took advantage of the restaurant and the bar, with another fantastic meal enjoyed by all.

A lovely warm welcome from a really friendly, nice lady. Very nice cakes and sandwiches with clotted cream, jam and scones. We had to take some home as we couldn't manage it all. We were made to feel very special and enjoyed it all very much. We will return again for another special tea. Thankyou to everyone there.

Great service, friendly staff and yummy food! Came to meet with friends for the weekend, we had a lovely buffet in the events room, beautiful bar meal and drinks. The room was small, but did the job, comfy, warm and clean.

I stay twice a year at this hotel where I meet up with friends for a social gathering of like minded people. I always receive a warm welcome by the staff who can't do enough to ensure your stay is a pleasure. I would highly recommend the hotel which has a great atmosphere, excellent food and comfortable beds. I'm already looking forward to a return in October.

Stayed overnight following a family birthday. Didn't arrive until 7p.m. but this wasn't a problem as reception was open 24/7. Very welcoming on our arrival. We had been advised on booking that there was a 60th birthday party scheduled for the night of our planned stay but they would give us a room as far from the potential noise as possible. The room we were allocated was far enough away from any noise to not cause us any problems. Food was good & restaurant quiet & cosy. Room was reasonable.

We have recently stayed in this hotel for a weekend for a wedding. The hotel rooms are very clean, the bed was large and comfortable and the staff were helpful. We had breakfast buffet style and ate in the hotel bar which was ok. It was a lovely setting for the wedding on the Saturday. Couple of things though, I found the bed was really uncomfortable also had a room at the back by the car park so hear all the deliveries in the early hours. Food from the bar menu wasn't very good I had the lamb & mint burger I couldn't taste the lamb or the mint bit bland I must admit, few chips & wilted lettuce leaf, family friend also had the chilli burger & she said it wasn't very good either. However the wedding meal was very tasty.

We have recently stayed in this hotel for a weekend for a wedding. The hotel rooms are very clean, the bed was large and comfortable and the staff were helpful. We had breakfast and ate in the hotel restaurant which was very nice. It was a lovely setting for the wedding on the Saturday. No complaints.

Thank you for a great stay. We had a personal emergency with an unwell child and had to amend booking twice but that was accommodated - thank you. There was a wedding in the hotel and they were kind enough to give us s room away from the event. Although rooms are basic they are clean and spacious and the food is exceptional! There aren't any grounds or pool do a bit tricky to bring kids but lots within driving distance or a quiet night Thank you for a lovely stay

Stayed for another 3 night break. Staff recognised me and welcomed me back. Room well furnished and spotlessly clean. Plenty of power points including one double that also has usb points.Good tea and coffee facilities including hot chocolate sachet and biscuits. Wi fi works fine. Excellent hot and cold breakfast buffet, staff efficient both as to taking orders for tea or coffee and bringing it immediately to your table. Will return again.

If you for go having your room serviced during your stay, you can have a voucher for a free drink in bar, That applies for each day you for go it. Great idea. Made use of that . The hotel is situated in a very handy place for visiting several places of interest. The service was good, hotel was clean and the food was good. We visited Slmbridge Wetlands (very near) and Tyntesfield, (just South of Bristol. Proximity to motorway is very handy.

The staff were friendly and very efficient, especially when working a small bar that was extremely busy. However, the food was a disappointment. The turkey was a sort of pressed, rolled joint, not tasty, and with an unpleasant consistency. The vegetables were limp - not freshly cooked, and the roast potatoes appeared to be from the previous day, as they were so dried out, sunken sided and hard that I didn't mind that we were only served 3 small pieces each. Totally different to excellent meals I'd had there in the past.

A good quality business hotel for someone on the road, good quality clean bedroom with plenty of coffee sachets, friendly staff and good honest pub food cooked and presented well. A very good breakfast in the morning. Perfect for the business person whos away from home.

Great “party” evening, dinner and dancing to a ceilidh band plus bed and breakfast. Unbelievably good value for the package for two. Clearly popular, as there looked to be full capacity. Bedroom large and clean, Netflix available on TV. Service for meal and drinks very good. An excellent stay.

Pleasure to have stayed here. Ample parking, easy to find yet quiet night sleep considering its proximity to the main road. Nice clean room, comfortable bed and good shower. Food was better than expected. Staff friendly and a nice stay was had.

We had a two night stay here with dinner & breakfast as a Xmas present for myself and my partner. We had such a relaxing time away from the kids, the room was clean tidy and lovely, the bed was very very soft but we just loved the hotel! And My god the food was AMAZING! I had steak which melted in your mouth and my partner had gammon which he had BOTH nights lol. Would of been lovely if they had a pool & snacks available to buy like crisps choc lol even a vending machine lol.We went out for the day anyway on our second day as it's close to Bristol and Gloucester and Weston super mare. Really lovely lovely staff I honestly can't fault this hotel at all.

Stayed several nights for a business event in Bristol area. Hotel is just 2 minutes off the M5 but didn't notice traffic noise. Staff very friendly and attentive, and happy to help any way they can. Speedy check in and check out, and overall very good value. Good wifi coverage in rooms and public areas. Only negative is Veggie options on the menu are a bit limited / unimaginative but there's a good food pub 5 minutes walk down the road (busy road mind). Overall recommend as a good spot to stay over

We stayed between Christmas and New year. When we booked in we were informed that we had to eat before 7.30 as the chef finishes at 8pm due the hotel being quiet. The rooms are ok but it was overlooked by the car park where people could easily see into our room. The evening meal was very good. The service was prompt, drinks are expensive. The breakfast is self service. There was plenty of choice. The scrambled egg looked awful more like boiled eggs mashed, the food was luke warm I had to ask for one to be heated up.The bar area was ok but the started to close up earler than stated. Doing this made us feel we were not wanted. However the second day was much better.

we had a really good night despite a couple of dissapointments- the meal was average (we've been to other party nights and the food was much better)- the Dj didnt get the music right some of the time especially later on-the rooms are prety good a bit tired maybe and we did have problems with the shower temp (cold-luke warm)-but this may of been a hiccup because weve been before and had a better experience. There's pleanty of parking and easy to get to-oh and the buffet breakfast was very good !

We always stay at The Gables when visiting family in North Bristol. We have just returned from there, taking advantage of their '2 night Winter Break with dinner on the 1st night' offer. We took our daughter plus our 2 dogs, so had 2 rooms. It's great that the hotel is now dog friendly. However, while the stay was generally up to the normal standard, there were signs that there has been an economy drive put in place, as (a) the restaurant and bar entrance areas were rather cold. Both of the look-alike wood burner heaters were off. It was particularly cold on Sunday evening at our allocated restaurant table and the waitress was unable to remedy this. Also (b), the usual dried fruit and seeds selections were absent on both mornings. It was still an excellent breakfast though, just less choice. While the room rates were competitive, the £60 supplement for the 2 dogs seemed excessive (£15/dog/night). Customer service was, as usual, excellent. The hotel has a lovely family feel.

This is a well managed hotel with pleasant and helpful staff. We have stayed a few times to break a journey and will definately stay again. The rooms are clean as is the whole property. King rooms are very pleasant. Evening meals tasty and breakfast is really first class. They have a range of specials, if you sign up for their newsletter, with some good deals.

Although the staff were very polite and apologetic,having a "chillax" in a hot bath before the evenings festivities before the event would have been nice. A cold (or luke warm) bath is not what you expect when visiting a Best Western. We brought the fault to the managers attention, had we not the boiler would not have been restarted. Having brought this to the managers attention we felt rather than just "sorry" it would have been a good gesture to compensate or back up the "sorry",maybe with a bottle of wine for our table or something similar. Shame on you the Gables.

We stayed at The Gables Hotel in a superior room which was very clean, spacious and comfortable. We attended a very entertaining murder mystery and had a fabulous time. The dinner was absolutely delicious and the breakfast was lovely.

What a place nice staff and great food, only problem could do with something else other that chips with everything, the stakes where value for money, the food will fill you up if you are hungry. Breakfast was the best I have had for years looking forward to my next vist .

Needing to amend a booking from one night to two due to a family emergency, we were delighed that the hotel could accommodate our request. We were also allocated our favourite room. There was a Motown night on Saturday so having a drink we were able to hear the music from the main hall event, which brought back some great memories. The hotel staff worked tirelessly through Saurday evening, back on duty early Sunday morning to work all day and be back in again Monday morning. Jason the duty manager was here there and everywhere, making sure everything ran smoothly. Natalie the front of house manager was also multi tasking, covering reception and the main bar. A pair of outstanding staff who deserve recognition. We enjoyed their fantastic breakfast each morning, which is always well cooked and sets us up for the day ahead. The Carvery on Sunday was exceptionally good and represented great value for money. We will return to this hotel as often as possible, as we are always made to feel welcome and it is close to many local attractions. Thanks Jason & Natalie for making us feel well looked after.

Well we booked for a Mowtown night and i was very surprised by the price £119 for two people which included a three course meal the mowtown night and bed and breakfast. To be honest i really did not know what to expect as this was so reasonable. However not only did we have a FAB time, it was excellent, smart, clean, beautiful Christmas decorations, friendly staff and lovely food. All in all excellent and i would return in a heartbeat, in fact i will keep a look out for the other events they put on..

Hi, I was at an evening party recently at your Hotel and couldn't help noticing how hard your staff were working so I would like you to give praise to them for me. I also noticed that the ones working close to me didn't stop for a break and the next day when working the times out I'm sure that they went over the maximum of six hours without a break. This hotel is an excellent place to stay if you are looking to visit Bristol and the local area. The facilities are more than adequate, rooms are comfy, clean and well presented. Breakfast is buffet style so no need to wait to be served if you're in a hurry. Lounge and bar area, inviting and welcoming. Car parking was plentiful and generous. Hotel is well placed with easy access to the motorway/ A38.

Booked on interet special price for two nights a d the welcomed ouf little dog.Lovely cosy hotel welcomed by reception we were early and we were welcomed to use the lounge bar. Had coffee and a beautiful made on the premises tomato soup(best ever tasted )served with a lovely warm roll and butter.Our room was lovely everything you need and warm. A lovely dog bed and food dishes and two doggie bone treats. Had a meal in evening with the dog. The food was exceptional. Brilliant staff. Had an amazing two days.

This a a friendly hotel and food is good, but the rooms are very small and are looking tired, albeit really clean. Overall it's ok, but there are much better options close which cost very little extra where I usually choose to stay if they are available.

Absolutely brilliant night. The hotel itself is lovely. The food was really nice especially as it was a mass produced meal. Breakfast was lovely and restocked constantly. Thumbs up to the young lad that was working in the kitchen, brilliant job! Can't fault the staff. Not a negative but the rooms are dated a little bit just adds character.

A stay of one night, have eaten here several times when visiting family first time staying. Cannot fault the room, service,or staff,a very enjoyable stay, will be returning in January for a further stay.

Just back from a lovely 2 night stay on the Groupon deal. This is a lovely hotel, with professional and friendly staff. We had a ground floor room which was ideal and very quiet. The room was clean, with everything we needed and comfy bed, bathroom and toilet also clean and well maintained, cleaned daily. We had dinner in the hotel the 1st night which consisted of 2 courses and a good choice of food. My husband and I had the beef curry which unfortunately had quite a bit of fat and gristle in but was very tasty once removed. Our friends had gammon which was very tasty and well cooked. Rest of meal was good and breakfast on both days was lovely with enough choice, and helpful waiter/waitress who looked after our every need. Good base for visiting Bristol with good shopping opportunities and lovely visit to quaint Thornbury. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all at the Gables

Stayed at this hotel on the evening of 26th Oct as a birthday treat for my husband. We spent the day in Gloucester and it was an easy drive to the hotel. The hotel itself was lovely, warm and cosy, and very welcoming. We had booked a king size room which had a massive, comfy bed! Our meal in the evening and breakfast the nest day were delicious plentiful. We were sorry we had only booked one night so will definetly return.

Arrived here on Friday on a Ogden Coaches trip. We were met on the coach by the General Manager Anthony and given envelopes containing our room keys, very efficient. Our cases were delivered swiftly to our bedroom 410. The .bedroom and bathroom were very clean and seemed recently renovated. Only critism was I could hear next door occpants taling through the adjoining door. Went down for the evening meal, quite a small dining room. What happened next I would describe as a shambles. The 46 of us had to queue for each course, the result being the end of the queue had at the most warm food. The food wasnt cooked very well anyhow. Retired to the small bar and there again there was enough seating. Next morning another shambles at breakfast there wasnt enough room in the dining room so Anthony, had to lay tables in the bar , far from satisfactory. Evening meal on the Saturday night was much better with waiter service. Again food not very good. Bar area very busy with a wedding party there. Breakfast next morning was better, everybody getting a seat. The staff were very hard working and pleasant. Dont know what happen to the Friday evening meal, and obviously the dining room cant cope when the hotel is full. I would have given four stars but due to reasons above I have given three.

Meant to write this a few weeks ago! It's the second time we've stayed having booked with the Groupon deal which I would recommend. Both the evening meal and breakfasts were very good with a large choice for breakfast. The room was quite small but had everything you would need and I don't expect much more for what we paid to be honest. Ample free parking. ALL of the staff are very hard working, polite and provided a very good and professional service. Especially, one of the young male servers (with tattoos) who served us breakfast with a smile on both Sunday and Monday mornings (6.30am start) after a evening shift at the pub nearby where we spotted him working! I hope you get some sleep in!

We stayed at The Gables for two nights on 3rd October. We were really happy with our stay in this well situated hotel. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, the rooms were very clean and well serviced. Our bedroom was a double room facing the rear of the hotel. It was was well furnished and had a very good size bathroom which was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was inclusive and was a self service buffet with plenty of choice of hot and cold food as well as fresh fruit. The restaurant in the evening had a limited menu but the food was prepared and cooked to perfection. The table wine was also good value, we enjoyed a bottle of the Argentinian Malbec, which I would recommend if you like a robust red. We enjoyed our stay at The Gables and would certainly stay at the Hotel again - we are already planning it.

Had a weekend stay, room quite spacious and everthing very clean. Shower room was modern and very clean. Slight fault with seal on the shower door but otherwise it was fine. Double bed was very firm, wouldve prefered a softer one. Breakfast in the morning was one of the best I've had. The hot buffet was fresh and perfectly cooked, fried bread and blackpudding was cooked to order and was perfect. Service was fast and efficient.

I found this hotel by using the Best Western Website and entering the location of where I was actually going on business, which was on the edge of Bristol. So that is perhaps the most important thing - as this Hotel is in Gloucestershire, most people wouldn't consider it as an easy hop to Bristol (30 minutes). The hotel is around £80 for B&B, which is a great deal cheaper than a Bristol City Centre equivalent. The hotel itself is 3 Star, but I stay in Best Westerns alot and this is a really good one. The King Sized room was clean, with good sized TV and spa bath (upgraded room I think as BW member) The Internet is quick and easy to connect to for business users and the staff are excellent - I was checked in very efficiently and my BW status was checked etc. The bar is a reasonale size and staffed by a very helpful team. The restaurant is perhaps a little small - or rather obstructed by pillars etc which makes it feel small, but the wine list is pretty fair and the food range covers everything from Pie to steak with vegetarian options. Parking is easy and on site. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. There is an overall air of attention to detail and care.... what's not to like? This is a very good jump off point for the west country and suffers because few people have heard of it or know where Falfield is.... I would urge you to check it out

Got a great deal at the hotel through Groupon. Check in was smooth and efficient, the guy checking us in was friendly and helpful. The rooms are across a few floors with steps only so carrying luggage can be challenging, the guy from reception help carry some of our suitcases. The room was huge with lots of closet and luggage space. It was fresh, clean and well maintained. The bed comfort and bedding was average but acceptable. The bathroom was recently renovated. It was modern with double sinks although the shower was still in the bathtub. The towels were crisp clean and of a fairly good quality. The breakfast was so so, was the best but not the worst either. All in all it's a solid three star hotel with great staff and location. I would definitely return and recommend the hotel.

Stayed a few years ago, and stayed again as a local, due to a plumbing crisis at home. Comfortable King Size room for £74 plus a reasonable £7 for breakfast. Clean and comfortable. Tea and coffee in room but no water. Comfortable bar but no proper ales, mostly fizzy lager. Typical British hotel food, i.e. boringly obvious, at reasonable prices. The upstairs corridor carpets are urgently in need of cleaning.

The staff are great here. I've stayed a few times now and have never had any complaints. The room is simple but clean and does the job. Can also recommend the restaurant. Had a rib-eye steak and a very nice Malbec and then chilled in the bar with a couple of beers.

Stayed for one night, food was good and well served. A couple of downsides, room smelt musty, could have done with a window open, and the bar top was very sticky either the varnish was odd or it had not been cleaned well, other than that a good stay, with pleasant staff. Would stay again.

Nice Hotel, for our stay staff very accommodating for our group, rooms a good standard, probably best to get room that is not road side, could be a bit noisy traffic, restaurant & service good, good location to get in to Bristol. Free parking at Cribbs Causeway, & bus into Bristol.

I stayed here for the night whilst on business in the area. Check in went ok. Room was nice enough clean and spacious for one person. Bed wasn't very comfy mattress too soft and pillows were a little flat. Took a while to drift off because of the uncomfortable bed. At 2am there was a lot of banging and slamming doors back and forth. Someone was unloading their vehicle, no idea what but this went on for over 40 minutes. So that was it. It look another 2 hours to get back to sleep. Had to get up at 6am. Breakfast was ok. Check out receptionist never asked if everything was ok. I will not be returning here again.

Had an evening with Comedy Dining who were amazing. The service in the hotel was excellent. Food was wonderful and served hot. Veg was plentiful. We had prawns, haddock and crumble- all delicious. Hotel clean and tidy. Staff courteous and helpful. We didn't stay overnight so didn't see the rooms but would definitely recommend.

Good entertainment and food very reasonable at this hotel ,especially as they were catering for around a hundred and fifty people. Easy to reach from the motorway . Rooms spacious and beds very comfortable , hotel was quiet on at night , bar was closed by 11.30 and could have been opened a while longer for residents but I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely go back again .

Great night with good entertainment and lovely food. We had the tomatoes soup or pate chicken or risotto and crumble all of which were lovely and nice selection of veg. The rooms were clean and tidy and the staff very helpful. Lovely hotel will def visit again.

I have visited this hotel in 2016 and did the same groupon deal which is a night at this hotel and 2 adult 2 children tickets to Bristol Zoo. The family room was an excellent size Which had a king size and single bed and a travel cot. (As requested) It was comfortable and had tea & coffee making facilities. The receptionist (Doubin) was very welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast included in the deal, this was freshly cooked and a good variety. Already booked to go to a Christmas event that the hotel is holding.

we went for a 2 night stay Sunday and Monday night ,was given room 408 facing the road upstairs a lovely room with a king-size and single bed ,yes you could hear the traffic ,but did not because a problem as the traffic was moving and was not all night The towels in the room are large and very white also the bedding very white and fresh ,nice tea coffee tray ,nothing else needed ,bath room had shower gel and hand wash ,this is great no waste in those silly little bottles more environmentally friendly . Restaurant - evening meal waiter was very nice friendly and helpful ,I had steak cooked correctly and food well presented could not fault .nice triple cooked chips Breakfast - again staff so nice and helpful ,local sausages and bacon lovely could not fault ,a man on next table asked for some mushrooms to be fried in butter ,this was done no problem ,you can order poached eggs black pudding etc I see people moan !! on here (TripAdvisor )why just ask nicely always help ,if you don't ask, don't moan afterwards !give them chance to sort things out. so near M5 we used as stopover to visit relatives in wales if ever visiting that way again I would visit again Thankyou every one at the gables for making it a great stay Tina

Very pleasant 3 night Groupon deal. Lovely large room very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food good and would certainly recommend. Ideal position for visiting Bristol and Berkeley castle and lovely countryside.

Stayed for 3 nights (19-22nd August) in room 121.Friendly and efficient check-in, our room was a good size and well appointed. Dinner was included on our first night served in the restaurant, friendly staff in pleasant surroundings. Food was well cooked and presented, if the choice was a little limited even on the main menu. Breakfast was buffet with lots of choice with some items cooked to order, very good and set up for the day. The hotel is modern and with an attractive lounge/bar. The hotel offers wedding packages and conference facilities with a large free car park. The Gables is half a mile from J14 on the M5 and was a great base for our tour of this part of the country. We had a great stay here and were made very welcome by all the staff, Highly recommended and we hope to return in the future.

First the main positive as it is a great place to have meeting being so close to M5 J12.Me coming from the north and my client from the south. Plenty of space and plenty of confidentiality. Then well Oh Dear ! Standard bottle of coke in a pint glass £3.00. Ginger beer shandy (there was no postmix) £4.90. Excellent Chicken Caeser salad (£9.95) and as for the Cajun Salmon salad (£12.00) there were loads of 'bistro salad' leaves,but the tiniest strip of salmon fillet sitting in the middle of all those leaves. Friendly and attentive staff and I will still use the place again becauce of both its convenience and bright interior with the exception of a sticky bar surface to which my jacket sleeves stuck firmly. Not pleasant.

What a super hotel! Lovely, Friendly, helpful staff especially Dobryl(if that's how you spell it) He is on reception and is always so polite and despite him obviously working long hours, it's always service with a smile, thank you. Food is perfect and plentiful. Hotel is spotless. Would definitely return and highly recommend.

My daughters wedding was held here and it was just excellent, from the planning stage to the actual day, nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were professional, courteous and friendly, everything ran so smoothly not one single glitch, could not have gone better.

Everything about the hotel was excellent - with the one exception being that it was uncomfortably hot overnight (not too surprising, given the hot spell that we'd had). The staff were all excellent; it was a very good stay, and excellent value.

I was a bit worried about my stay at The Gables Hotel as some of the TripAdvisor reviews were a bit negative. I really can't see what people are moaning about as my experience was totally positive & I enjoyed my stay. The hotel is well run. I was checked in speedily & was asked if I needed help with my bags. My room was very pleasant with everything that I needed (bath with shower over). Everything worked in the room. There were enough plug points. Wifi worked well. Plenty of hot water for the bath. Comfy bed with good quality bedding & towels etc. A welcome drink was included in my room deal (Groupon) The bar area was very pleasant & there was an outside area which looked nice but sadly it was raining. Breakfast was buffet style & was good. Check out was speedy. I'm very happy to recommend & will go again.

A very clean and smart hotel. Staff very helpful. Breakfast has plenty of variety. Restaurant evening meal was well presented and quality was very good. Would recommend this Hotel. Plenty of parking space and just off the junction of the motorway. Very easy to find. Would definately stay again when in area.

Room was spacious and clean and adequate for a couple nights stay. Bar area and outdoor area nice to sit. Staff were polite and friendly . However. Drinks very pricey. Food very pricey and poor quality . Apart from the breakfast which was adequate and tasty.

Visited this hotel for a wedding(this is a review of the hotel only as I did have an issue about the food for the wedding which has been dealt with separately). The hotel is very easy to get to just 5 mins off the M5 north of Bristol. Very modern with a nice bar area and outside seating. We were allocated a disabled room with plenty of space(one strange thing was that it had a normal bath and shower, I would have expected just a walk in shower. The bed was made up of 2 singles pushed together but was very comfortable. The windows are singled glazed so you can hear some background road noise but not enough to disturb you. Overall a pleasant 2 night stay.

I must congratulate all the staff at the Gables, the family wedding I attended there was perfect in all aspects, the food was excellent, the staff friendly and very professional with a very customer focused attitude. The room I stayed in was larger than I expected it was immaculately clean and very well maintained as was the whole Hotel, the Management and Owners should be proud of their achievements. The Hotel runs occasional themed evenings like Murder Mystery which with the attention to detail I have witnessed no doubt will be a success which I hope to attend.

My wife and I have just enjoyed yet another great stay at The Gables Hotel. As usual we were made to feel very welcome upon arrival. Our preferred room was ready and situated at the quietist part of the hotel, looking back towards the main entrance which houses the reception. Our granddaughter was allowed to join us for breakfast which was as usual very enjoyable. There have been a few changes to the buffet breakfast which we found to be an improvement. On the other hand we missed our own pot of coffee and had to wait for refills. The increased room rate (B&B) was a bit of a shock (33.33% increase), but the convenience to our daughters did not put us off. We may need to find another hotel in the future if this is to be the new rate. Checking out was easy and professionally handled by Natalie, who has looked after us for the last 7 years of using this hotel 3 or 4 times a year on average. We love the hotel and have only ever had to stay elsewhere (another BW hotel) due to a wedding party taking the whole hotel. A highly recommended hotel close to the M5 and Bristol.

Went to The Gables Hotel for a night as a birthday treat which my wife had paid for had a lovely room, spent the afternoon early evening in the bar we had a complementary glass of wine each of arrival. We then had a evening meal which was from the set menu good choices to pick from the steak was cooked as we like it also a nice bottle of wine. I must say all the staff we came into contact with were all very pleasant and most helpful a credit to the hotel management will definitely visit again.

Stayed for the night with a Groupon offer. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Reception and bar/restaurant staff were cheerful which always makes such a difference. Evening meal was great. Good range and Steak was cooked to perfection. Room was fine and all in all great value for money. Definitely would stay again.

Friendly and helpful staff at reception and in the restaurant. We appreciated the fact that we received a call about ten minutes after going to the room to check that everything was OK. The room was not large but was adequate for one night and it was well laid out. The kettle and cups area was right opposite the bathroom, which made it easy to fill the kettle. There is a light over the kettle area. The bed was very comfortable and the TV and WiFi worked well. The food was nicely cooked and there was a reasonable choice at breakfast. We shall bear this place in mind if in the area again.

Booked through Groupon for 2 nights including dinner one night and a glass of wine. Wasn't expecting much but what a surprise! Elsewhere someone mentions a lack of choice on the evening meal but this wasn't so. There was an adequate choice and although my wife got the last steak, I went for what was a delicious curry. The steak was superb, as my wife asked for medium/rare and it actually came medium/rare. It was obvious from this first meal that the chef took much pride in his/her work and sourced quality materials. The wine was more than acceptable too! Second night's evening meal proved this to be true as I was served the best vegetables I've ever eaten in a hotel; al dente and very tasty - well done chef! Breakfast was good and again quality, even down to the bread for the toast which was not the usual white sliced cheap supermarked stuff. All the staff we spoke to were friendly, polite and cheerful - good staff training? Also the bed was very big, being two pushed together, and certainly comfortable. Hang on to your chef Gables and we'll be back!

Booked this through a Groupon deal. The room is clean but quite small. If you are used to the huge beds you get in Premier Inn or Travel Lodge you don't get that. Room doesn't have AC but had a fan, and there is a lack of power outlets (I nearly bought a four-way adaptor but forgot to put it in the car) and I've had to unplug the tv in order to charge my iPad. The complimentary evening meal was from a very small choice of meals for Groupon customers and consisted of two courses. You could pay extra for dessert if you wanted it. There was also complimentary glass of wine each that could be exchanged at the bar or in the restaurant. Excellent free WiFi in the room. Such a good signal that we were able to FaceTime our grandchildren. Good shower and fluffy towels in the bathroom The breakfast was really good and eat as much as you liked. Staff here all very pleasant. Loads of car parking on site and you can bring your car right up to the reception doors to unload and load up. Would stay here again

We stayed for 3 nights and could really not find fault with anything. The buffet breakfast is superb, dinner choices are very good and the food delicious and not over-priced. Every single member of staff that we had contact with was pleasant, welcoming, and helpful, and a credit to the hotel. The location is very good, being about 2 minutes from the M5, and about 10 minutes from Wales. Although our room was a little stuffy, this was mainly due to the unusually hot weather. If we were to visit the area again we would have no hesitation in staying at The Gables!

This hotel is very nice overall, the staff are helpful, informative and pleasent. The public areas are good and typical of this level of hotel. Value for money yes. Parking good but a bit of a walk in bad weather. Now the room. Again overall good, clean hotelish. However take a torch if you want to see anything even in the day. At night the lighting was created by a hobbit. Old fashioned fluorescent bulbs that start up slow to a poor crescendo of light and don't ask about the switching, badly designed.

We spent 3 nights and couldn't fault it in any way . Room 112 was lovely with a view of outside seating area and some beautiful hanging baskets. The only downside was traffic noise but that didn't really bother us. The bus stop was right outside the hotel so you can go into Bristol. Would definitely return again

On our return to the midlands from touring the west country we stopped over at the Gables and this turned out to be a good choice. Close to the M 5 and easy too find.The check in was quick and the room very good and had every thing we needed.A nice bathroom with a good shower. You can eat in the main dining room or several bar areas the menu being the same.Both are meals were enjoyable and reasonable priced.The bar drinks were has is normal in hotels overpriced.The breakfast itself was good with a self service style. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and I would use the hotel again.

Stayed here when attending 2 meetings at the hotel. A very pleasant stay, good food... The bedroom lighting was a little strange (no centre light and no way to switch off the lobby light from the bed)... room 215 and the bathroom was quite clean but the corners were dirty! A shame as the rest of the stay was very good!

So as we pulled up to the hotel is looked nice from outside and staff were friendly, no air con in the room so way to hot with just a little fan in the room. Kept window open all night and was woke up by traffic on road outside but the most annoying thing was the banging of the doors in the corridor which were constant!! They need to get the fire doors that don't slam. Breakfast not the best that I've seen in the morning however the veggie burger in the bar was delicious.

Stayed for two nights at the Gables and want to say how lovely this hotel is. Staff were all helpful and friendly. The room was clean and we'll equipped and the food was delicious- breakfast was especially good. Would love to stay again . Great bus service to Gloucester Quays if you fancy a rest from driving and a lovely location. So glad we booked this deal Thank you.

We really enjoyed our stay here over 3 nights. The hotel was better maintained than some of the BW hotels we have stayed at and, although it is on the A38 our room at the back was quiet, even with the windows open. Staff were friendly and efficient and food in the restaurant was very acceptable. Buffet breakfast offered plenty of choice. Ask for a fan if your room is warm because the windows have restricted opening.

The food was tasty, great service,nice staff, room clean and closed area I went to training in local. I would have preferred a firmer mattress, and a quieter room away from the main road, because I have to sleep with the window open. Otherwise, I enjoyed my stay.

The Gables hotel is ideally situated for easy access to the M5. The whole hotel is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. We had a beautiful four poster bed and a jacuzzi bath in our lovely spacious room. It was nice to relax in the lounge before having a delicious meal in the bar and grill. The breakfast was also delicious and very leisurely. We were not rushed and could have still helped ourselves to the buffet more than half an hour after the proper service time. All the staff were so pleasant and friendly, especially Sophie who made us so welcome and phoned up to see if everything was okay with the room.

Attended my cousins wedding, when we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff, I cant say how great the staff were during the weeding , at the meal and especially during the evening, made my grandchildren feel very welcome, the room was good, Just need some drinking water in the room. not keen on using bathroom taps. Only down side was was people leaving at 2am with cars parked outside rooms,

We stayed one night to break a long journey. On arrival we had a warm welcome followed up by a call to the room to make sure we were happy with the room…which we were. The room was well appointed and a decent size spotlessly clean, with tea coffee and biscuits that were much appreciated. The staff throughout the hotel were excellent, helpful and friendly. We booked in for dinner having read all the food used is supplied locally and it noticed in the quality again in the morning the breakfast was one of the best I have ever had including what I never thought could be bettered by a West Cork breakfast in Ireland. We will certainly stay again as we have family close by and the hotel is very good value…..no faults at all

Superb 4 night stay...great staff ....service.....food....room. Breakfast was great choice from fruit to pastries to full English....proper crusty bread and choice of cereals too.... Evening meal of T bone steak was quality.... enjoyed equally by all 4 of us for our evening in the restaurant. Room service good too.

Large car parking area. Polite check in. Room clean and tidy just requires a little updating. Internet TV but not connected to the internet. Shower nice and hot and powerful. Bed comfortable. Our room faced the rear of the hotel and we didn't hear any traffic noise. Nice bar area. Restaurant meal was nice and steaks amazing. Buffet breakfast was exceptional, plenty of choice and all English breakfast items were nice and hot.

We stayed for 2 nights in a standard room. It was comfortable, the staff were helpful and friendly, there was plenty parking and the hotel was a convenient half mile from the M5. The bathroom was a good standard, clean and modern. The food was acceptable. Our only criticism was that the menu was rather restricted but portions were generous and service was prompt and the staff pleasant and helpful. We would use the hotel again.

Just had two nights stay with dinner. What a wonderful stay we had . We came a little while ago and it was so good that we came back. Amazing food and lovely staff all so kind and polite. Clean and super comfy beds. Thank you Anthony (Manager) for taking time out to talk to us and so good to see a Manager taking a hands on approach by serving our meals. Most Managers we don't usually get to see. You are doing an amazing job and all the staff seemed happy which makes us happy. Look forward to coming back.

Excellent hotel. Stayed for 1 night as attending a family party. Couldn't fault the whole experience from check in to the room to the breakfast and check out. Room was good. Nicely decorated. Plenty of Tea and coffee in the room Breakfast was delicious. Definitely recommend

We enjoyed the lovely facilites, clean and well kept room and bathroom, nice restaurant and super food. Staff were helpful and cheerful at all times! Well worth visiting if you want to base your stay near to Gloucester, Bath and surrounding areas with quick access to the M5 for ease of getting around.

Friendly staff from arrival till we left. Was able to check in earlier which was a bonus for us too. Excellent room and facilities. Clean and tidy throughout. Staff couldn't do enough to help with plenty of extra milk /coffee on request. Bar staff very helpful and has lovely relax there. Evening meal was very good, the steak an excellent choice. Breakfast was superb, lots of choice and freshly cooked food replenished regularly in the buffet breakfast. It really was a very friendly hotel and I couldn't fault anything...even though the room was next to the roadside - which has bothered other guests- it didn't concern us and we slept well. We had a groupon stay which did make it even more of an affordable break but will definitely be going back again soon. The hotel is very well situated for access to lots of places to visit - Bristol, Wales, Chepstow ,bath etc and is only a short ride off the motorway which was ideal for us. Perfect in every way and well recommended.

We stay at the Gables regularly when visiting family a few miles away. It is a lovely friendly hotel where guests are made to feel welcome and part of the family. It is ideally situated on the A38, easily accessible to the M5, Bristol, the Cotswolds and other South Glos towns. The breakfasts are superb. Staffing is relatively stable, enabling repeat guests such as ourselves to maintain friendships with some. Prices are set so as to offer good value for money. We will definitely be returning.

We were so impressed with this hotel.Everyone of the staff appeared happy in their work and were so friendly and helpful that it's hard to compliment individuals, although I feel that Diane really gave 150%.The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the rooms excellent. This hotel has a cheerful, well run feel and we only wished that time had allowed us to return.

Stayed one night with my child in May 2019 in room 228. All was ok and our stay was fine, apart from the noise from the A38 (A major main road) facing the window. Shame as its otherwise pleasant English countryside around. We came back late and the door was locked with a sign displayed stating one had to phone up to be let back in, but with my phone inside on charge and nobody answering the door bell, which the night porter later informed us that wasn't working, we had to go looking for any signs of life in Windows to get help. We did so thankfully.

We stayed here for 1 night in the middle of March. We booked it with a Red Letter Day gift that we had been given and for £99 including breakfast it exceeded our expectations. The hotel is quite remote but that was what we were looking for - a peaceful, relaxing weekend. It is next to quite a main road but we didn't hear any noise from our room. On arrival we were given a bottle of wine too which was included as part of the booking which was a lovely but unexpected addition. The hotel itself was clean, our room was large and although a bit dated was more than adequate. The staff were so friendly and could not do enough for you. We ate lunch in the bar and the burgers we ordered were honestly the best we have had in a very long time. The hotel also has a couple of charge points for electric cars which wasn't advertised so again an added bonus for us. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel for a reasonably priced weekend break in the Cotswold's.

Good hotel with very helpful staff. The room was good a size, with a bath with shower. The only problem is it is on a main A road with traffic all night. A room at the back would be better. Good help yourself breakfast.

We had our wedding at the Gables on 27/04/19. The whole experience from planning to our special day was fantastic. A big thank you especially to the lovely Carys, our wedding coordinator who did a fantastic job. Every member of staff we have met in our many visits have been friendly and welcoming, and I would highly recommend the Gables to anyone looking for a smaller wedding venue.

This is a a lovely Hotel. Do not be put off by it being 3 stars as it gives 4 star quality. The staff, the service the food the comfy beds all make to having a really relaxing stay. We had 2 nights here and were not disappointed.

Stayed one night for a family wedding. Very nice clean room with a powerful shower. Good quality breakfast with plenty of choice. Staff very efficient. Only negative was the traffic noise from the adjacent A38.

A massive thanks to Natalie (reception manager) for handling our reservation and managing to allocate our favourite room (408). Our check in went smoothly and after going to our room to unpack and freshen up we went down to the bar to have drinks with our family. It is little wonder that the bar man was the employee of the quarter. He had a great attitude, very professional and was very patient with our grand children. After drinks we ordered some food. It arrived looking great, hot, tasted delightful. We couldn't fault the food or service. We enjoyed a good nights sleep and ate a very good breakfast accompanied by a very good pot of coffee. All in all another excellent stay. Being well looked after and receiving great service ensures we will return again and again.

Scenic location - woke up looking over green fields. The outside of the Hotel was very well presented, The staff were all friendly and attentive. Overall the Hotel and Room was clean and breakfast very enjoyable

Was placed here while working near by in Bristol, the hotel was easy to access and the rooms functional and clean. bar menu was varied enough. breakfast was good with a wide variety. staff were all very helpful.

Excellent service, friendly staff, good food and value for money. We were attaending a wedding at a nearby village and needed accommodation for two nights; the hotel fitted the bill and made the whole experience that little more enjoyable. The General manager has an excellent team, well done to all.

We were attending a wedding locally so chose this hotel to stay overnight and wasn't disappointed. The room was large with a king size bed and a comfy pullout bed for our daughter. Everything was clean and the room facilities were great. The breakfast was lovely with plenary of choice. A great stay would definitely recommend

We stayed for two nights mid week. The breakfast here is lovely and the service very good. The room we had was small though (smaller than Premier Inn and no bigger than Travelodge). I'd recommend ear plugs when sleeping because we could easily hear people around us from time to time. Not a major problem but probably bad if you had noisy neighbours. Housekeeping knocked on our door at 8am which was poor, but possibly we should have used the do not disturb sign. Having said all that, it's ideally placed if you're exploring the area which has much to offer.

This is a very pleasant hotel and clean. Reception was straight forward and friendly. Room was good but rather dark. Certainly more light needed where drinks are being made. There was a very good selection of drinks and biscuits. When you get into bed they have a tendency to run away. So what ever you do don't sit down on the bed with a drink in your hand. Food we thought was very expensive and not a good choice. Far better to to drive into Thornbury to the Anchor. It is also worth noting that even though the hotel as advertised as Wooton under Edge it is not. It is in Falfield some six miles away.

We have stayed here before and will stay again - the hotel is in a perfect location to visit our daughter in Berkeley and will stay here again. The rooms are clean and fresh with nice little touches and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. We used the Bar and, even though it was really busy, it felt cosy and we were served quickly, efficiently and politely

Situated close to the M5 and on the A38 the hotel was very conveniently situated for exploring the local area. Very good greeting at reception, warm and friendly. The room was good with tea/coffee making facilities. The quality of the food was very good especially the evening meal.and again the staff were very good' A venue I would stay at again when in the area.

So I still have 2 days this week at this hotel as well as another 4 next week, I was dreading this a little as I am on my own studying for a NEBOSH course but I can say that all my worry has gone away, my room is completely fine for what I have paid, the food has been lovely so far and the staff Waiters, reception, bar have all been so polite and welcoming I do not feel uncomfortable at all. This was our third visit within 4 months. On every occasion the food has been excellent, the choice of menu varied, the staff both friendly and efficient. We will definitely return, it was just a shame that one item of our choice was unavailable on the night but second choice was still delicious!

We visited the restaurant at this hotel yesterday and were very pleasantly surprised. We had a deal for meals and wine and were a little concerned by some of the reviews which were somewhat negative, but we had an excellent meal. We also thought the choice of maon courses was very good indeed, nice range of options to suit all tastes. It was also nice to have vegetables selected to complement the meal rather than having the same vegetables accompanying all dishes. Everything was very well cooked and served piping hot (a particular bugbear of mine - I do like hot food to be served hot, not lukewarm!). Whoever devised the menu and prepared the dishes should be congatulated. I do not often eat dessert as I am usually disappointed, but the ginger sponge was excellent with nice pieces of ginger. The addition of ginger ice cream, again with ginger pieces was really the icing on the cake for me. Service was also very good. Just such a shame that the restaurant did not have more customers, I think they were all hotel guests apart from us, they deserve more guests to the restaurant in its own right, we will definitely return.

The service here was absolutely fantastic. The younger gentleman that waited on our table was great - could not fault him in anyway and left a deserving tip. Food was also great. Only tiny negatives I can give was that my venison was slightly over done and that despite being very rich, the torte portion could have been slightly larger (this is only my opinion though). I also think the place could do with a little bit of a freshening up. I would recommend this place to friends and family. Very nearly 5*.

Our first visit, for lunch, on a Saturday. Although this is primarily a restaurant for hotel residents, we decided to give it a go as it's local. The ambiance and decor are very much of the budget hotel type, but the young chap who served us was very friendly and efficient, even though they were attending to a large party at the same time. The prawn cocktail starter was perfectly acceptable, but lacked any bread as is customary with this dish. The Gourmet burger main course was a monster. Large brioche bun, thick beef burger topped with a slice of bacon and grilled cheese, pickles, side salad, home made coleslaw and skinny fries. Neither of us could eat it all - and I have a big appetite - so you didn't feel short changed. A couple of nice touches - I asked if they had any barbecue sauce and a pot of it was provided within minutes. Also my red wine was a lovely temperature (room temperature if not warmer). It's a real bug bear of mine when it's served cold. For a budget chain hotel on a Saturday lunchtime this was a very good effort.

Well just returned from our one night stay at this hotel such a pity that yet again we were let down by this group of hotels this was a goodwill gesture arranged by the last hotel break we had in there sister hotel in litchfield where we had a bad exsperiance regarding our car getting damaged and room problems , well we were promised an upgrade which I paid for and I was given a bed which was falling apart interconnected doors to the next room so all we headed half the night was loud talking television blasting etc decor was dated and carpet behind bed thick with dust won't ever be going back breakfast was cold and dining room walls dirty and chairs chipped and stained if I'd had to pay what they were asking for the room I'd have wanted my money back couldn't be bothered to complain as where does it get you ! Don't use this hotel if you want a good nights rest in a clean environment as it won't be here

I stayed here this weekend (Jan 18 to Sun 20 2019) Very friendly and helpful staff, I cannot recommend the food highly enough, the food was SUPERB!! It's not a 5 star hotel, but their food is! The wheelchair accessible room was great, unless you need a wet room as the accessible room had a bath, but otherwise very accessible, as with most hotels it would be useful to have a plug socket by the bed (both sides as we don't all get in bed the same side!) for plug in charger for powered wheelchair, not having a plug by the bed, meant I had to crawl from the bottom of the bed to the top, while that is not a problem for me, I expect it is a problem for many!

Friendly and polite staff, good service, food was delivered in good time and presented very well. The lamb curry tasted great. The meals were good value for money although I think the steaks were overpriced.

Went here for a meeting. I purchased a pint of lemon and lime. I nearly had to take a mortgage out to buy it, £4.55 how many % mark-up is that? I know that the biggest profit is on soft drinks, but that is extortionate and I do realize that I costs to run a hotel BUT…………………………. Come on………………………….. I await with bated breath to hear from the management on how the cost can be justified!!!!!

We will never have a Christmas lunch at the Gables again - the turkey had a feel of a synthetic meat/reconstituted and round in shape - the vegetables weren't very nice and had a weird taste to them and the roast potatoes weren't properly roasted - they were sloppy - We would definately not recommend the Christmas meal here to anyone. In fact we bought a turkey roast from Aldi tonight and that was 100 times better!!!!

Just back from The Gables; as part of our Christmas Festivities my wife booked us in for a Festive Afternoon Tea and a Murder Mystery Evening. We also stayed one night at The Gables Hotel. The Festive Afternoon Tea was fabulous and was served with a glass of mulled wine and was followed by Carol Singing with the Thornbury based Good Afternoon Choir; it was a lot of fun. The Murder Mystery was acted out during the three course dinner, I had soup, the wife had chicken liver pate. This was followed by a traditional turkey dinner, the wife had Salmon. My chosen sweet was the Christmas pudding while the wife had cheese and biscuits. The Murder Mystery was also a lot of fun although we didn't quite work out the culprit or why it was committed. The hotel stay was very reasonably priced and was a very comfortable stay. Already looking forward to next year's event

Stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting relatives, whole expertience was enjoyable and very good value for money. Friendly caring staff, comfortable room, good breakfast. Even though the hotel is fairly close to a main road, noise levels in bedroom was good which is important to me as I live in a quiet area

It was a pleasure staying at this hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful especially a young lady named charlotte. The food was superb and the rooms very comfortable. Reception was very welcoming.

I regularly attend for a group meeting of hobbyists the staff are always fastidious and courteous highly reccomended! Totally worth the commute and look forward to attending again in 2019 many thanks :)

We have stayed here quite a few times now, and it never fails to impress. Friendly helpful staff, clean room, superb bar and a brilliant breakfast. We will not try anywhere else when I'm this area. We were late for breakfast this morning (they had cleared away) our fault but they served us a breakfast in the bar-what service and a great attitude towards their customers. Brilliant, thank you.

Stayed for two nights while attending conference at nearby Tortorth Court. My room was road facing. It had a massive bed, Queen size? Windows had safety catches and when opened the noise from the road is noticeable but not when I was asleep. Shower was over the bath type with separate controls and at mains pressure and nice and hot. Free wifi is provided and tea making facilities. Both of my bedside lights didn't work but too lazy to report it. You have the option to skip a daily room service in exchange for a drink voucher, never known this before. If was staying longer I may have availed myself occasionally. Now, I didn't understand the breakfast pricing. My company states a £10 breakfast limit. I was billed for this. However, the breakfast menu also mentions a £10 charge for non-residents having breakfast. Which seems to imply breakfast was included in the room fee but I was charged for it anyway. Also if I only wanted an omelette there would be a £4.99 supplement and extra again for any fillings. So if I didn't want a full English buffet breakfast the choice was £14.99 for an omelette, so I ended up paying £10 for a yoghurt or rather the taxpayer did.

The hotel is situated very close to the M5 north of Bristol, this make travelling to various local attractions very easy. the hotel room was excellent, nice size and very clean, our room had a view to the front of the hotel which we thought may be noisy however this was not the case. the breakfasts were excellent, the bar food was also very good but we did not try the restaurant so cannot comment. All of the staff were very pleasant and helpful, and we will definitely stay there again.

We stayed only one night and were not disappointed at all. So easy to get to from the South UK. Ample parking. Clean & bright hotel. Warm greeting at reception. The room was a generous size. Loads of clothes hanging space with hangers provided. Hairdryer was good. Tea & coffee provided. The room was very clean. The bed was so comfortable. The small TV even had a crisp clear picture! The room was very quiet. I had the best sleep I've had in a long time! Breakfast was self-service and was perfect, with much choice. Price of the stay was fab. I honestly can't recommend this hotel enough! I will definitely stay here again.

Check in staff lovely and helpful. Bathroom could use a refurb. Restaurant staff have little to no training on anything from food menu to stock to cards accepted. I ordered a main which I realised it was far too small so I asked to order a side, I was told it would come too late so not to bother. I had to go to bed hungry and annoyed.

My wife and I have just enjoyed yet another great stay at the Gables. We were a little concerned when we enquired that there was a wedding on, but Natalie & Charlotte worked their magic and found us a room, in fact it was our favourite room (408). Despite the wedding, our room was quiet and we had a decent nights sleep. Breakfast was up to its usual high standard, helping set us up for the day. This hotel is close to Junction 14 of the M5 and near to many local attractions. We highly recommend it for people visiting the area.

Been to the hotel many times now for the CJR meetings. The hotel staff are always very friendly. The food at the hotel has always been great. The hotel has always been clean and tidy. We will be back again for the the next meeting.

I come for a big social event twice a year at this venue, always great hospitality, warm welcome by staff, and they do a lovely buffet. Plenty of parking, great facilities in the events/conference room.

Loved the buffet this time! The legendary sausage rolls made an appearance. Did not stay over night but the venue was lovely, clean, and perfect for a get-together. Also very nice to see the staff getting involved. Definitely recommend!

I selected this hotel as it was handy for the M5, but the noise from the nearby road was a bit load. The room was disappointingly small, but reasonably well equipped. Breakfast was OK. Staff seemed friendly enough

We stayed here the last weekend in September as our son was doing a scuba diving course nearby. The hotel is in a lovely quiet area. We ate in the bar both evenings, the food was of a very high standard and delicious, breakfast both mornings was lovely and hot and nice variety. Our room was a nice size and immaculate, beds were a little firm for me, but comfortable & the room was spotlessly clean. The staff were all very friendly and I would definitely stay here again in the future

Whilst the location is in the middle of the country, it does have a noisy location as its next to a main A road. We had an upgraded room which was fine, but it came with an imitation 4 poster, why oh why ? it creaked and wobbled with the slightest movement. Where the hotel let itself down was its staff who are enthusiastic but lack training. The bar prides itself on a gin collection but the bar man didn't know how to serve it ( there's even a menu that even explains how it should be presented, but he didn't seem to know this) As for the restaurant we were told to book as it was a Saturday night- there was no one else in it ! all evening. We went Al Carte which was a big mistake ( overcooked steak) they were hardly stretch. By now with all the problems we had had, we asked to see the manager but he wouldn't come and see us. In the end my wife went to find him and we had a good chat with him and he really wanted to do a good job but had simply not been trained. Really felt quite sorry for him With alittle bit more effort this could be a good hotel in a lovely part of the world

Stopped here for 1 night. Hotel is easy to access from M5 although the proximity of the motorway is not obvious at the hotel. Standard room was pleasant and clean but quite warm even though the outside temperature was mild. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a 3 course evening meal with wine in the restaurant which was very enjoyable. Breakfast was fine with good quality items but the selection was a bit limited and disappointingly the Danish pasties had gone. However we did get this for free by booking directly on the hotel website so I shouldn't complain too much. Overall a good stay.

Convenient stop over on the way to Cornwall from Lincs. Small hotel, very clean, friendly professional staff serving good pub grub style food. Bedroom a little small but perfectly adequate with a large bathroom (with large bath).

Stayed for 2 nights for a weekend exploring the Cotswolds. The room was comfortable, but basic. The bathroom was small and needed updating. Our room overlooked the front and the main road was always very noisy. The restaurant had a limited choice of food which was presented in a fine dining style, but was only average. My husband had ravioli as a starter. This was one large piece of ravioli swimming in oil. I had a fig and mozerella salad. The mozerella was the hard type suitable for pizza topping. A sugar syrup coated the dish, making it very sweet. The waiter forgot to bring one of the side dishes for the main course. Not many people were eating in the restaurant. Afterwards in the bar when ordering a drink I asked to put it on my room tab, as we had just done in the restaurant. Not having my room key available as proof, the barman was unsure if he could allow this, despite the hotel having my credit card details on booking. The breakfast was a generous spread of continental and full English, but unfortunately the hot food was tepid. When I asked for a decaf cappuccino I was told that I could only have instant coffee because the machine had been turned off. On our second night we ate our evening meal the The Huntsmans pub about a mile down the road. The food, drinks and service was excellent. We noted that their rooms with breakfast included were £80 per night, unlike the BW which was £100 per night without breakfast included. Generally, for the cost, I expected better.

We came for lunch on Saturday with my parents to celebrate their anniversary. We had a 2 course meal which was excellent. My mum had the salmon and she said it was lovely, myself and my husband had pea & mint risotto which was really good. We had limoncello & raspberry semi-freddo for dessert and it was delicious. We also had a bottle of house wine - Shiraz, Tango. It was superb. The service was excellent and all of the staff were friendly. Would highly recommend and hope to return.

Stayed Sunday to Friday while working nearby. Clean, comfortable rooms, decent shower, freeview channels, free WiFi with good signal, refreshments tray... Decent breakfast selection with quality products....prompt service and table clearing. Bar area comfortable with a reasonable evening menu, prices a bit steep, but food quality wasn't bad. Fair selection of drinks, bottled and draft, though the John Smiths was rotten. Golden IPA was much better. Lack of some bottled choices 'til Thursday... Friendly staff...Bobby on the bar...and breakfast...and.....Morgan....Paul "Hollywood" (night porter) ??...up for a bit of banter ...just one R.B.F.....?? Would return. If they'd have us !

We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant... What a disappoint..! They only fresh things on the plate, were the potatoes. They were OK. The salmon was DRY & TASTELESS. The so-called salsa, was a warmed up portion of tinned tomatoes... Seriously, we could have done better ourselves at home. In fact, we would have been extremely embarrassed to serve this awful dish to any of our personal guests...

Just enjoyed a great few days at this superb hotel.the location is perfect to visit surrounding places.the room was very nice and the food is excellent.the breakfast must be one of the best in any hotel.the staff are very friendly and helpful if you need them.the free wifi is so good,we were running 4 devices with no problem.would definitely recommend this hotel and will return when we visit this area again.

We have just had three nights at this hotel and it has been a brilliant experience, the room is very clean and spacious and we were lucky enough to have a spa bath and a four poster bed . We ate in the restaurant one night and in the bar both meals were tasty and well cooked as is the extensive breakfast menu. The hotel is well situated to explore many places , we went to Gloucester, Bristol and Weston Super Mare.

The restaurant table settings laid as if ready for breakfast no style. the manager took the order, served the order and cleared the plates. Didn't know what the soup being served was. poor selection of non spicy / tomato sauce. the Irish coffee didn't have any sugar. the cream was frozen with lumps.tried the crab linguine.the pasta was over cooked and the crab was playing hide and seek, and doing it very well.playing at nouveau cuisine and failing.

Stopped overnight at this Hotel for a conference the following day, the Hotel and its staff were extremely helpful and could not be faulted in any way. The room was very comfortable with a great bed and facilities all of which worked. The food was brilliant and check-in and check-out great. All in all, I recommend this Hotel very highly.

Visited for afternoon tea.,nice airy restaurant and good service The food itself was excellent ,range of sandwiches, four cakes and two scones with clotted cream per person,not for light eaters.The whole experience is too be recommended

A really nice hotel, we were at a wedding at The Barn 5 minuted up the road so stayed overnight at this hotel. Checkin was easy, the room was clean and tidy, small but to be fair fine for one night. The only comment I do have was the plus points by the bedside were European plug points but found a spare plug by the dressing table to plug phone charger in!!!! The breakfast was good and I always think when a place invests in good sausages you're always on to a winner!!!! I would highly recommend this as a place for a stopover or a great place to stay for a few days to explore the area or even have a party or wedding. Just a really nice well run hotel.

Stopped here for one night on route to Somerset , excellent location, just off the M5 lovely large clean room, good evening meal served in bar area ,good choice of drinks and not to expensive, breakfast was also very good.

Stayed here for a weekend break in cotswolds bristol area. Easy access from motorway and easy to find. Hotel lovely. Clean , lovely staff especially Jess and tbe 2 young men in tbe bar. Loads of choice at breakfast nice bar area amd decent size towels! No air con but thoughtfully fan in the room.

We stayed two nights, for a wedding nearby. It was the hottest weekend of the year so far and we definitely would have like air conditioning. The room and bathroom were well up to standard for a three star, as was the dinner. The breakfast was good, but it was very busy on the Sunday and unfortunately the friendly and willing staff didn't manage to keep the buffet stocked.

Stopped overnight at The Gables on route to Cornwall. It is conveniently sited very close to Junction 14 on the M5. The bedroom was comfortable, clean and a reasonable size, dinner was fine and the breakfast was better than most buffet breakfasts we have had. The staff were welcoming and very polite. Other reviewers have said you can hear the traffic on the M5/A38. We stayed on a very hot night, slept withe the window open and didn't hear any noise at all. Would certainly stop there again.

I have stayed at the Best Western Gables hotel now around 10 times. The hotel is in a good location just off the M5 Motorway. The rooms are of a good quality, cleaned daily and comfortable. The food at the hotel is also of a good quality, breakfast is usually self service, with a wide range of food. The evening meals are also of good quality service is fairly quick. All the staff are very helpful. Plenty of parking spaces available.Will be staying again.

My wife & I stayed here en route to Cornwall. We had a lovely warm welcome on arrival. Our standard room was very comfortable & more than adequate. My wife noticed the establishment's food hygiene rating & we weren't going to eat here until I read the managers response to another review on here. Pleased we did eat dinner here as the food was fantastic and service very good too. Breakfast buffet was also excellent and I'd have no hesitation staying here again.

Intention was to have lunch. Advertised as dog friendly. Upon arrival the guy on reception didn't speak English, the word " lunch" meant nothing. Eventually a female appeared and said we could sit in the bar with our dog, who is impeccably behaved i must add. The bar person then told us we could only sit in the lower bar area. Ok. Fair enough. We then asked if we could order food from the restaurant menu. No. You can only order food from the restaurant menu in the restaurant. Ok... but we cant sit in the restaurant because we have our dog with us. Total nonsensical approach so we left. No wonder we were the only customers. The place was desserted. These people need to be taught how to conduct business in a professional and proper way. We would have probably spent up to £80 on food and drinks but clearly our custom was not appreciated. Avoid avoid.

Excellent service with included buffet breakfast. Clean and well presented. Pleasant staff.Close to Slimbridge wetland wildlife centre which is well worth a visit. We are best Western reward members so we took advantage of sale price with included buffet breakfast.

I often use the Gables as a convenient place to meet on business being close to the M5 J14 both north and south.They have even changed and upgraded the lounge bar furniture so it is more 'sofa friendly'.My colleague and I also had a very good lunch of which his consisted of a trio of three huge sausages and mash with gravy (£10.50) and mine was a very generous sized ham eggs and chips (£11.50).All washed down with a pint of diet coke (£3.20) and a pint of lager shandy (£4.30). Good solid value,very filling and pleasantly served.Always a pleasure to return to this establishment.Did not stay in the hotel overnight.

Stayed 1 night in a normal room, with double bed. The room itself was small (even compared to the likes of a budget IBIS or Travelodge). Furnishings were tired (frayed blind, chipped wood in open wardrobe area), tv remote not cleaned since purchased, and grime on tiles in bathroom. No main lights in room area, just lamps. Bed was ok and mattress firm. No air circulation, just window. Only 1 non occupied plug socket in the room! There was a brief powercut before midnight. Soundproofing was good between rooms, lots of road noise, but hotel is next to a motorway. WiFi was good. I had intended to eat dinner at the hotel but noticed on my way into reception that there was only 2/5 food standard rating for the hotel. Food standards website confirmed last check March 2018 and issues with food prep. That's just gross and made me think what else are the corners being skipped on. For that reason I also skipped the hot breakfast. In summary, a tired but functional hotel, but I wouldn't recommend eating there.

Reasonable hotel, I found sleeping a challenge due to the hotrls proximity to the main road which never seems to become quite, the menu choice is quite limited and the rooms are starting to show their age. I can't fault the resturant/bar staff and the cleaning team, they were very friendly and took pride in their work.

We booked this hotel because it was only 3 miles from where the balloon flight was. Our flight was tomorrow morning an we got half way around the m25 when they cancelled the the flight due to the weather. We wanted to change the date for staying at the hotel but were not able to so we lost £80. We didn't want a refund just a different date so if anyone is booking a balloon trip think on

We went with a Groupon deal. The waiting staff were clueless but pleasant. I had a vegetarian parcel as main course which was a pile of undercooked vegetables stacked inside filo pastry. The flavours had not intermingled and it was served with no veg or potatoes. These were extra. My husband had pork which he said was just OK although the fat hadn't been cooked properly. Wild horses wouldn't drag us back.

I stayed here two nights to visit Bristol and Bath over the bank holiday weekend. It was a ground floor four poster room, which was nice but a bit noisy from traffic outside and other guests passing by. The bed was really firm so uncomfortable and there were no extra pillows or blankets. However, the toiletries were good and it had a jacuzzi bath. The first morning we had breakfast in the main dining room and it was so nice, really good quality hot selection unlike many hotels, the staff were also really friendly the first night when checking in and at breakfast. The second morning breakfast was the complete opposite! It was moved to a conference room and it was terrible, cold food, dirty glasses, running out of bread etc. I told staff and passed the glass to them and they didn't care, no apology or anything. They also refused to let us sit where we wanted as there was no cutlery on the table then promptly made it up when the next guest wanted to sit there so that was a bit rude too. The hot drinks were poured rather than given in a pot that day and never topped up. It was just such a contrast, it was like a different place! We weren't asked on check out if everything was ok like at pretty much every other hotel or I would have mentioned the breakfast but it just seemed pointless as the Sunday staff seemed so disinterested. I would stay again as the hotel is convenient for visiting the area without paying the crazy prices in the surrounding towns but I wouldn't go for more than a couple of nights as the lack of sleep and a good breakfast the second day wasn't great.

I went to the Gables for a retirement do with about 20 work friends. We had been given a private room which was nice. The table was laid in an odd way with huge gaps, so we had to rearrange it. There as no background music playing in the room. We had all preordered our meals. My starter was goats cheese tart, and that was nice, but no bread rolls. My main course was blade of beef was very disappointing, no additional vegetables and just no enough food. My dessert of lemon tart was ok. People were ordering chips to fill up. One poor persons main course came when everyone else had finished eating. My meal came to £29, it would have been nice to offer us all a cup of coffee of tea free of charge, the table was laid with cups. We were rather awkward and all paid separately . The assistant manager was taking the payments at the front desk and had the opportunity to ask how our evening had been - but no. I should had complained, but I had not organised, and the event was about our lovely colleague retiring.

we were staying for my nephews wedding at the barn at berkley the reception was great on arrival , our room was very nice comfortable and warm. The breakfast very good every thing nice and hot . the dinner i felt on our arrival was very overpriced for what it was my wife had fish was so small you had to look to see it i had the pork was not all that hot and quite a big peice of fat in the middle .i worked as a chef for over 50 years The bar staff were great

We occasionally reserve a table here on a Sunday lunchtime to break up our journey from The West Country. More often than not we go for the carvery which is always good and the accompanying vegetables are fresh and plentiful with a good variety of choice. Of course there's always the proverbial bottle of wine to enhance the tastebuds. Parking is excellent with plenty of spaces. Well situated for travellers just off the M5 motorway. Good accommodation if required.

Friendly receptionist on arrival and room spacious,clean with plenty of coffee/tea etc.Had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant , ordered a rib eye steak, very disappointing could not eat half of it because of the grizzle on it prevented me doing so. At £23..00 it was very expensive for poor quality food, my wife had the chicken which needed more of the Madeira sauce as the mashed potato was quite dry not creamy! Ordered the sticky toffee pudding which was nice but again was over priced at £6.50. Food not recommended. Waitress in the restaurant was very good and friendly, her name was Jess. Breakfast selection was good and hot with pleasant service.

I staid here for 4 nights as was on a trading course near by. The staff were friendly and when I say the staff were friendly I mean everyone from the receptionist, bar staff, waiters, waitresses and cleaners each one made the effort all the time. The rooms were of adequate size and very comfy. We had breakfast every morning and again a nice choice and cooked well. The evening meal options are bar menu or bistro menu tried both over the 4 nights and the bistro food was first class I had the beaf feather and was lovely. Overall a great stay and would definitely come back here.

Our stay was just one night, large bedroom beautifully furnished with super king size bed. Would have liked free standing shower but bathroom was ok. Very nice full English breakfast buffet style ,only disappointment was the way the beans & mushrooms were kept hot under the hot plate in le creuset dishes with hot heavy lids. Friendly staff ,large secure car park & well appointed surroundings.

We travelled as a group of four with my brother and his fiancé. The hotel location was perfect for our trip to Berkeley Castle the next day. The rooms for traditionally decorated and very clean. Our room was a good size with tea and coffee facilities. We didn't originally booked to have breakfast at the hotel, but being pregnant and craving cereal the breakfast staff were extremely accommodating. They allowed me to just pay for a couple of bowls of cereal at £2 before checking out. The bar area offers a relaxed atmosphere for a couple of evening drinks before going to bed. Front of house and bar staff were all very professional.

The hotel is lovely overall the service was good. The room was clean and tidy. The breakfast however was terrible, it was suppose to be a hot buffet, but was cold and hard. The staff at breakfast took our full plates and did not ask nor was interested as to why we had not eaten hardly anything. Told reception and nothing happened.

We stayed here for 1 night while visiting the area & we were not disappointed. We had a problem with our on-line booking but when we arrived the lady on reception was very helpful. The room was very spacious & clean& there was plenty of teas, coffees & biscuits provided. Our room was at the side of a very busy road but the traffic noise did not disturb us at all. Breakfast was delicious & freshly cooked with plenty of choice, I would highly recommend the sausages, as they were the best I have tasted. I would certainly stay here again if I was in the area.

Stayed over one night as I had a meeting in Bristol the next day. Its a nice hotel and the room was pretty comfortable. I had a meal in the bar similar menu to the main dining area. The meals were very exspensive and the portions were very small. Dont mind exspensive as long as you get value for money but uthis wasnt the case. A pint of diet coke was nearly £4 which again overpriced. The temperature adjuster on the shower in the bathroom didnt work and it was scalding hot !! needless to say I had a body wash in the sink. On check out the printer wasnt working so they said they would mail a reciept needless to say Im still wating.

Despite being snowed in we have enjoyed our stay. Hotel is clean and staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fresh with a huge variety and dinner was to a good standard. Thank you Gable staff ??

I have just finished spending 10 weeks (mon-fri) at this hotel and I felt I should drop a little review. Anthony and his team went out of their way to ensure my stay was comfortable, enjoyable and provided as little stress as possible. The hotel is as you'd expect from a Best Western and it is that familiarity that drew me in to book in the first place. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone and I must say I didn't have one dull moment. The rooms were spacious and above all clean; always felt refreshed. The food was on the whole pretty good; although due to the length of my stay I was constantly out and about. The bar was well stocked and the staff knowledgable and friendly. Well done Anthony; I will be recommending your hotel to others wishing to stay in the area. Finally a special mention to Emma, Kate, Jason, Cal, Kieran and Diane for taking a shine to this guy and making my stay more than just a stay... Thanks once again!

Had a lovely stay. Hotel and bedrooms were very clean. Impressed that bedrooms had clocks as not stayed in a hotel for a long time that had a clock you can see in the night. Good food and bar service. Excellent breakfast.

Stayed for 1 night. Location handy for motorway however poor from a business overnight stay perspective. Was allocated a room at the front of the hotel - noise from road kept me awake. Also there was a heavy snorer in the next room - so very little sound proofing. Overall decor tired and dated. Staff were friendly and accommodating on arrival. However after highlighting the traffic noise on checkout the only comment was that if I came came then let them know to assign a room at the back. After traveling so far and needing a good nights sleep I would not take the risk on staying there again.

We spent one night at The Gables so that we could visit Slimbridge Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust which isn't far away. Best Western hotels always deliver! It was warm and comfortable - the beds particularly comfortable so an excellent night's sleep. Lovely bathroom with plenty of room, and great to have a bath as well as a shower. We dined in the hotel, and they managed my special dietary needs without a qualm and we had a really lovely meal. Breakfast was equally good, and the same great service. All the staff we met were smilingly friendly and very helpful, and there's plenty of room in the car park.

We had a really enjoyable evening,excellent 3 course meal and superb entertainment, the Adele Tribute Evening was second to none, Hayley as Adele was sensational and a first class entertainer, all made for a wonderful evening and when matched with a stay over was excellent value for money. Would we do it again? you bet!

We recently stayed at this hotel as part of an offer with groupon to visit Bristol zoo & stay at a ‘local hotel' but this hotel isn't particularly close to Bristol zoo. However, it is very closely located to the motorway, so I wasn't expecting it to be set in such lovely grounds! We also went to cribs causeway and the hotel wasn't far from this. I was really impressed with the room, it was a really good size along with the bathroom and the bed was comfy. The only issue we had was with the temperature, it was a cold couple of days and I'd turned the heating up all the way on the thermometer but it seems the heating is controlled centrally and had been recently turned off when we came back one day leaving the room quite cold. My boyfriend also had a shower and it was cold, so I'm not sure if this was linked to the heating. I'd recommend this hotel if you're happy to stay outside of Bristol centre and travel to where you want to go.

My husband and I were invited to a friends birthday celebration and opted to do an overnight stay which I believe was offered at a reduced rate for attendees. The party was great, buffet food excellent and our room although on the small side was absolutely fine, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was amazing all freshly cooked and also buffet style, staff were all really helpful and friendly my own very small niggle is that there was no proper fresh coffee on offer only instant I just cannot drink instant but on the whole would definitely stay here again and recommend to others.

We visit the restaurant on a regular basis and can only praise the staff and Managers for their professional attitude and excellent customer service. Kate Whitaker in particular totally understands what customer service means. She is very approachable, and friendly and ensures that everything runs smoothly. She is very hands-on and not only ensures that the team are working efficiently but gets stuck in to all the different tasks. We have just returned from lunch there today and having observed her, she circulated around the dining room talking to guests at each table and making each person feel valued. Callum is also a very experienced manager who is able to keep the dining room moving effectively and efficiently. He is also very approachable and professional. There was however an occasion last Sunday 7th January when neither Kate or Callum were in the dining room and it was total chaos. A Manager by the name of Jason appeared to be "in charge". But he was very ineffective. We were seated and then forgotten about. We had to get up and find a waiter to ask for a menu and drinks. He appeared not to be interested in whether we were served or not. Thank goodness today the A Team were back.

I had a great 2 night stay here the hotel was very, very nice. Warm and friendly staff so good big thank you Katie!!!! and Kieron. Lovely meals in the dining room and nice bar. Room very clean and comfortable (very large) Bath and shower excellent will be there again later in the year.

We came to this hotel using Tesco vouchers. We stayed for three nights. It is in a very convenient position. We visited our favourite Cotswold towns and Swindon. The hotel staff were all very friendly. The room was good. The only thing which we weren't totally satisfied with was the breakfast - which wasn't as hot as it could have been and our shower which wasn't hot enough. We would recommend this hotel.
