What a superb hotel this is! The staff are the friendliest we have ever experienced and always smiling and happy to help with anything at all. Room perfect and clean and quiet. In house cocktail bar “Casa” is sublime as is the mixologist Pierre. So helpful even with bespoke mocktail creations. Unlimited fresh water (cold or ambient or sparkling) available on tap and fresh pastries complimentary throughout the day too. Location is fantastic, just a few steps from the main streets and along a quiet elegant side street. We loved it and would most definitely recommend this hotel.
Overall hotel justifies 3star status. Small 35? Rooms. I stayed in ' comfort room ' which reflects it's price ( cramped, bit musty odour) cheap shower facility. Had to ask for shower towel Usual lack of English TV channels. No coffee sachets. Staff pleasant and helpful. Good location to explore city Not sure whether would stay again or try alternative.
The location is fantastic and the staff go above and beyond in providing insider information on restaurants, attractions, and activities. Rooms spacious, clean, and comfortable. Highly recommend for your visit to beautiful Bordeaux!
We wanted to like the hotel, we reserved our room 6 months ahead and paid quite a lot for it. First, the publicized address is not the location. We had to ditch our car and wander around until we finally found it only to hear from the concierge that we shouldn't put the hotel's address in the GPS. With the hotel being in a pedestrian mall, it was a nightmare to get to the hotel and unload our baggage. Then we had to eventually find the parking garage that the hotel recommends, which I found out the hotel charged us an additional 15 euro for the night, parking was not included. I requested an early check in if possible but even after arriving there after 3:00 pm, the staff said our room was not ready. Finally getting into our room we were alarmed at the claustrophobic size of the room. A tiny double bed basically took up the whole room with barely room to walk around it. I could go on but, to tell you the truth, staying at this Best Western was a nightmarish disappointment. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere besides this hotel.
The hotels location is excellent...close to shopping, restaurants and rail line. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. Always willing to help us. he room was small but very clean. The bar off of the lobby was a must stop each night on our return to the hotel as the bartenders were excellent mixologists.
A beautiful hotel with comfortable beds and extremely helpful and friendly staff. The location is ideal—easy walking to historic plazas and lots of bistros and restaurants. Because of that, we wound up not trying the breakfast or the bar there. I would definitely stay here next time in Bordeaux.
No coffee satches provided unless specifically asked. Tissue box empty & not replaced. No ammenties provided Typical big hotel chain skimping on small things that matter to travellers with cold unfriendly staff. Room size small and toilet was weirdly structured. Had to be very flexible to reach the toilet paper!
Great location and perfect for a two night break. The room was clean and comfortable and all of the staff we dealt with were extremely helpful. Didn't have breakfast or use the bar as we were out and about all the time. Close to a few tram stops to get to the airport and very walkable for anywhere you would want to get to in the centre of Bordeaux.
The location of the hotel was perfect, close to tram, carpark and restaurants. Staff were all very friendly and helpful giving advice where to go and what to do. We will definitely be returning to this hotel on our next trip to Bordeaux. Hotel was very clean and rooms a good size for the middle of a city.
Great hotel in the middle of town. I booked the room in front on the first Floor with balcony. Spacious and superb atmosphere. Rooms on the back are not that comfortable. Small and view on technical installations. Better to pay a bit more. Extra friendly staff and divine cocktailbar downstairs. As if you are a time traveller 😊
- Welcoming Team on check in and checkout, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. - lovely period building in a great central location making it easy to walk everywhere. - surrounded by lovely squares, shops, tram stops. - free sparkling and cold water available 24/7 from a central filtered system which was great. - hotel able to provide a tram ticket to get us to the airport (chargeable to room) which saved time. - room has all the necessary facilities for a long weekend break. Would definitely stay here again when we're next in Bordeaux.
The room was very clean and bed comfortable. Excellent breakfast, very good choice .Staff very friendly and helpful. Very good location. Hotel being on a quiet street meant no street noise during the night. Good value for money. We will recommend this hotel .
Lovely hotel. Rooms were comfortable and well designed, air con was effective too. Staff were very helpful and kind, providing recommendations for dinner. Bordeaux is a beautiful city and this hotel is a gem. The bar within the hotel is well worth a visit too!
Great location! Friendly, helpful staff. The location is perfect for walking around the old sections of Bordeaux and it has easy access to the transit system. The staff was very welcoming and offered great recommendations for restaurants in the area.
Great hotel in the old part of Bordeaux; walking distance to all major sights (~5 min to the Opera House & ~10 min to Place de La Bourse and Miroir d'eau). Decently sized rooms and modern, fully renovated bathrooms. The property was very clean and safe. The staff was very helpful. It was an enjoyable experience.
Clean & Proffesional Staff Had a wonderful experience, walking distance to everything Very Green Hotel
Excellent hotel right in the center of high end shopping in Bordeaux! Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Each staff member was very polite, friendly and helpful with any questions we had. Breakfast is a lovely spread of pastries, protein, fruit and coffees. Tram stations are nearby and easy to maneuver. Many sights of Bordeaux are walkable from this location. Definitely stop into the in-house cocktail/mocktail lounge for exceptional drinks and service!
Wolfe drest up in sheep's clothing. Very good location. Pleasant reception area and entrance. Very tired & run down rooms with next to nothing in amenities and facilities. Dreadful pillows and well worn bed.
The hotel staff are charming and helpful. The hotel is very reasonably priced but in a great location.
We enjoyed our stay at the Grand Hotel Francais. The front desk staff were helpful and considerate, the rooms were comfortable and very well equipped. I would suggest booking a room larger than a comfort double for a stay of longer than a night - the comfort double was smaller than we had expected with not enough room for our suitcases. The bar, Casa, was a wonderful experience. Theo, the bar man, is so knowledgeable, kind, and generous. We spent far more time in Casa than we ever have in a hotel bar!
This is a small charming hotel with lovely public areas including a bar and breakfast area. Staff was lovely. Only negative is the bathroom was on the small side with toilet separate from shower and sink. However, you would have more counter space around the sink if they moved the hair dryer and mirror from the wall and then placed a wall shelf for the bathroom glasses. Great location, wished we could have stayed longer.
This is an an elegant hotel in a perfect location, in the heart of the old town. The street itself is very quiet, which is a bonus in Bordeaux as you can hear the noise of the tramways at every corner. Some people seem to be disappointed with their rooms, but we were not. It may be because we had booked a deluxe room with balcony, but everything was perfect in the room, and very clean. Breakfast was ok, it had a bit of everything, the fruit salad could be improved on ( rather tasteless). Everything was very fresh. But above all, what makes this place great is the extreme courtesy and kindness of all staff. The client is made to feel unique and appreciated. A big thank you to the whole team for making our stay so enjoyable.
Booked this to celebrate a big birthday. It was a lot more expensive than many other hotels in the area but decided to splash out on a little luxury, based on reviews. It really was not worth the money. It's a basic three-star hotel, which in France probably equates to a 2 star in Ireland. Room was tiny. It was clean, admittedly, but it was a bit shabby (old tired A/C machine that looked grubby). The fan in the bathroom did not work, which was an issue given the fact that the bathroom was on the inside of the room with no window. The shower was OK, but I had only very tepid water for one shower on the day we checked out. View was of the fire escape, and often of other guests leaning out their windows to smoke. I tried asking at reception for a better room, given that it was a big birthday celebration (having failed spectacularly to get anywhere via the booking website I used for the last time ever) and was greeted with that most French of responses, the Gallic shrug, which conveyed complete and total dismissiveness. Staff were at best brusque, verging on rude, which is not usual for Bordeaux. Luckily, restaurants were lovely in the town, but the hotel definitely took away from what was meant to be a special weekend away. We could have stayed in other 3 star establishments for literally half what we paid here. Avoid it if there is anywhere else moderately clean available.
This hotel is all about location, it's a few minutes away from the busy shopping area and about a 15 minute walk from the best restaurants dotted around Saint - Pierre and Place du Parlement. A 5 minute walk in the other direction takes you to the beautiful area of The National Opera and within 10 - 15 minutes you can reach the tram at Place de la Bourse or at Hotel de Ville for the airport. As you enter the hotel you feel a sense of grandeur, the reception area and staircase are beautiful with grand lights and staircase and a beautiful tiled floor. There is a luxurious cocktail bar right next to reception (we didn't see anyone in there the whole time, maybe because it's a bit expensive). Our room was a bit of a disappointment, it was tiny and the bathroom was only just about big enough, although sitting on the toilet wasn't comfortable with legs pressed against the wall! The hairdryer cut out after about 30 seconds so had to be used on the cool setting. There was only soap provided, no other toiletries, not even a shower cap. Only one hook to hang towels for 2 people - poorly appointed. The bed was comfortable, nice pillows although very small. Not much wardrobe or drawer space, it was ok for a couple of nights but wouldn't want to have stayed longer. Air con worked well and there was a safe in the wardrobe. There was some mould on the walls and the paint was peeling in places, we weren't expecting luxury but at £150 per night for B&B I was expecting a higher standard. There were a couple of herbal teabags in the room but no coffee and to get water we had to go downstairs to reception to fill up a bottle which the hotel provided. Buffet style breakfast was 3* at best, there was little offered in the cooked food area and the coffee was from a machine. There were the usual pain au choc and croissants etc along with some cake, yogurt and fruit with some cheeses and ham to accompany the baguettes. The lady organising the breakfast was lovely, she worked really hard to make sure that everyone got what they wanted and that the area was kept neat and clean. Reception staff were lovely, extremely helpful and friendly at all times. I feel that this hotel is really a 3.5* overall. Had the bedroom been better it would have been a strong 4, but although some have rated it higher, I expect a lot more for the price paid.
The hotel is housed in a beautiful old building in a perfect location for exploring Bordeaux. The staff were all welcoming and exceptionally helpful when approached. The room was better than it appears on the hotel website, with a large and well-equipped bathroom that included double sinks and both a large shower and separate bathtub. We would certainly stay here again on future visits.
From the central location, grand accouterments in their style and provisions to the warmth, safety, cleanliness and friendly staff -- we are giving a HUGE thumbs up and a perfect score of 10!!! The rooms were of decent and comfortable size for my husband and myself. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable; something we look forward to during our world travels! Their breakfast buffet was wonderful offering a variety of foods to start our day of adventures in Bordeaux. We loved being in the heart of this enchanting city for restaurants, shopping and ease of using the train system. It also was quiet enough for us to enjoy peaceful rest. Hats off and many kudos to the staff! Merci!
Excellent location just off the main shopping street and close to the tram. It is necessary to contact the hotel to obtain a code to be able to drive up to the hotel. Beautiful interior and bar (refurbished 4 months ago). Superb shower but beware of the dangerous lip on the floor between the bedroom and bathroom.
Nice hotel in convenient location - short walk to shops, tram stop nearby on what appears to be a quiet street - not so, on two of our four nights students living nearby partied loud and hard into the wee hours. The room itself was modern, nicely finished, however the shower was in the bath tub The balcony was tiny but enough room for two to sit on. Pleasant, but very expensive bar downstairs, get your orders in early as it closes suddenly with no warning and no last orders before the staff leave. Overall a mixed bag - we did find the noise issue to be annoying; especially as we ended up back at the hotel because all the bars had closed!
I would repeat this lovely place again! Thanks for bringing a water bowl for my dog. I really liked the bed, it was comfortable and a nice night sleep. The location is great near by everything. The staff was amazingly friendly.
Wonderful. Centrally located to restaurants and sights. Clean, clean clean. Breakfast was delicious and always fresh. Hotel bar staff a pleasure and accommodating. Desk staff the same. Never met housekeeping staff but room always cleaned and restocked.
Great hotel. comfortable room. Hotel located near some of tourist attractions. Coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, shops are all down the alley. Staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. We have a wonderful stay.
The location of this hotel is superb situated within walking distance of pretty much everything you wish to see & do in Bordeaux (which is a wonderful city by the way). Staff are extremely friendly, special shout out to Isaac, the night porter who is a very friendly and helpful individual - a credit to the hotel that is for sure. Breakfast optional but if you do choose, it is a good start to your day with many options & reasonably priced. Our double room with balcony was very clean & spacious, very hard to find fault really. Would definitely stay here if / when we visit Bordeaux again.
Saturday 26th after a very difficult day culminating in my husband being admitted to ICU at Saint Andre Hospital. Our travel insurance company booked me in just 30 mins before I arrived without any suitcases which were at the airport. The whole reception team took care of me for the four nights I was there. Sara was first person to greet me and gave me toiletries and made me a sandwich. The team called the hospital every morning for an update, booked taxis everyday, helped me order food in the evenings and told me where to find the best cakes for the nurses. Thank you to all the team at The Best Western Grand Francais for giving me a home during some very difficult days. We will be back in happier times. Mrs Stuart .
we stayed 4 nights in Bordeaux at the Grand Hotel Francais which is superbly located on a quiet side street in the city centre. Hotel staff were welcoming and helpful. We stayed in a deluxe room which was nicely presented, modern and clean with an excellent big bed which was so comfortable. If coming from the airport the hotel is about 20 mins steady walk, slightly uphill, from the Hotel de Ville tram stop.
What a great find - this is a lovely hotel right in the centre of Bordeaux. The building itself is so fitting with its surroundings and beautifully restored inside (the sweeping staircase is fabulous!). The room was small but had everything we needed and it was lovely and quiet. Staff were extremely helpful - we arrived early for check in (10am) and it was lovely to be able to access our room. We were only here for one night but we would definitely stay again if we are in Bordeaux again. Buffet breakfast was really nice with a lot of choice.
I spend over a hundred nights a year in hotels, on business and pleasure. This is a centrally located hotel of above average standard. But, as with many French hotels, they are copying the UK hotel habit of serving dreadful breakfasts.
Excellent location, delicious breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff. Room was comfortable and quiet, with nice amenities. Would definitely come back to this hotel if I return to Bordeaux and also recommend it to others.
Brilliant location, right on the heart of the old town on a beautiful and quiet street. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very comfortable room with a lovely view on to the street. Would highly recommend!!
Received my confirmation email that check in was 12:00. Closer to my arrival I received a second email confirming a 12:00pm check in. I attempt to check in at 1:30pm and nope, check in is at 3:00pm. Front desk staff were completely indifferent, only stated that yes this happens that “best western” sends out these emails and don't actually accurately reflect check in (and later as I found out, check out) times. I travel 30% of the year and have never come across such a thing.
WARNING: DO NOT STAY HERE My wife and I booked two nights at this hotel about seven months (October 2022) in advance. We indicated in our reservation that we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and we wanted to stay in Bordeaux two nights before we embarked on a Viking river cruise. We arrived at the hotel around 11 am, and were informed that the room wouldn't be available until after 2 pm which is understandable and the norm in most hotels around the world. After a long wait and tired from our long over night flight from Washington DC, we were informed that our room was ready. We got to our room and without noticing anything unusual we took a nap to catch up on some sleep. We woke up to notice that the room was extremely hot like an oven and there was a fan on in the room. We tried to turn on the air conditioner with no success. We went down to the reception area to inform them that the a/c was not working and were told that they were aware of the issue. They did not think it was a big deal although the temperature in the room was over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Their only comment when we complained about how hot it was: “there's a fan in your room isn't there?” By the way, our room (room 205) is listed as one of the higher priced rooms in the hotel. It has a balcony and is a good size room. We opened the balcony doors at night, hoping to cool down the room, only to discover that we could easily see into the apartment building facing the hotel. Also, the street noise at night was very loud as people were constantly walking by, and we heard loud banging early in the morning as there is some renovation going on. We woke up with several mosquito bites and the room was extremely hot and humid. We understand that a/c systems can break down unexpectedly. However, management did know of the problem prior to our arrival and did not tell us when we checked in to our room. They should have offered us an alternative at that time. They should have told us and offered to move us to a different hotel if another room was not available before we checked in. The hotel management avoided addressing the issue with us directly. We checked in to our room on a Thursday and were assured that management would solve the problem by Friday. We returned to the hotel late Friday evening after exploring the city only to discover that management had not fixed the problem. We were not able to get any sleep on Thursday or Friday night due to the persistent noise outside and having to keep the balcony doors open to cool the room. As we checked out on Saturday, we noticed that they were quickly cleaning up the room for the next guests. I hope they are able to read this review before they get to the hotel.
The best location in town. Withing walking distance for everything. Very clean. Delicious breakfast, always smiling employees. Only minus the too small room for a superior and that the toilet is not in the same place with washbasin and shower. There were Renovations in the lobby so it wasn't available to sit but when we looked inside it will be amazing. A place back in history. A definitely recommended hotel!!!
This hotel was perfect for us. The location could not have been better to walk to all the sites. The room was big, the shower spacious with a rain shower and the king bed was very comfortable. The icing on the cake was the staff. Nicholas, Sarah and the night clerk Joanna were all extremely helpful and friendly! Best Western is lucky to have all of them. On top of that we loved Bordeaux and how clean it is. We will return and will stay here.
This hotel was just wonderful! We stayed here on our first night in France and another night later in our trip. We were treated like VIPs from the moment we entered. The hotel is quite charming and in a gorgeous part of this lovely city. Bathroom was great and bed was very comfortable on our first night. I had mentioned that on our return night my husband would be celebrating his birthday. We were given an upgrade to a lovely room AND a bottle of iced champagne and delicious treats specific to Bordeaux. We were very touched by the kindness of the staff! The room was quiet and so elegant. Breakfast was wonderful with lots of delicious choices. We had a great experience at this lovely hotel.
I stayed here on my own for a short holiday in Bordeaux in early January. The hotel is in a great central location and close to two tram stops and within 5 to 10 minutes of some of the city's main attractions. Thank you to all the staff, who were always friendly and helpful, reception staff speak English as well as French, however I was glad of the opportunity to speak French, even though the staff knew I was English. The room (307) was very comfortable and clean, it has good amenities and was cleaned to a high standard every day. The only minor thing I can say as a slight negative was the coffee cups were a bit too small and hot to touch as they were glass. I was very glad of the fridge in the room as this was handy for drinks to be chilled and saved on going out to the bars all the time. Breakfast was delicious and served a wide selection. However a little pricy, it's worth the quality to pay for. I cannot wait to return to Bordeaux and I will certainly consider staying in this hotel again. Many thanks.
The location is great, very central. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, in particular the young lady at reception, sorry I did not catch her name. The breakfast was varied, fresh and some of the items were even homemade. The room was clean and well equipped and were even able to bring a small well behaved dog.
Excellent location in the center of Bordeax. You drive only by walking. You have gastronomic offers, to buy, bus stops, etc. The hotel is well decorated, very clean. The rooms are somewhat small but with everything you need for a good stay. The breakfast is complete with good quality products. To highlight the staff that attends in the hotel!! I will come back!
A very well located hotel off a quiet street. The room was plain decoratively with an excellent bathroom featuring both a shower over the bath and a walk in shower plus a separate toilet. The breakfast is very good with homemade cakes and great coffee as well as the usual hotel offerings. Staff are excellent.
Grand Hotel Francais is located in heart of shopping and dining center of Bordeaux. Bordeaux is very pedestrian friendly with large street void of any cars - just regular light rail in main areas. Parking is in garages that are a few blocks from hotel (only downside). nice size rooms in a grand old building
Well located in a quiet yet central area. Close to the tram and by foot to many restaurants. Stylish building. Excellent staff. Room was smaller than expected, but bed super comfortable. Aircon good. Shower room neat but well equipped. Glad that there was a lift to the top floor. Breakfast had a good choice. Very little wardrobe space and we were there for five nights! A broken safe made the wardrobe even more awkward because the door of the safe wouldn't close and caught on clothes. The devil is in the detail.
I spent 7 days with my mom and it was simply perfect. The location is amazing. The staff are extremely helpful and accommodating and simply great people. I enjoyed spending time in the lobby at night with a glass and chatting with my friend. The DELUXE room was perfect for my mom and me. The style and feel of the hotel was very Bordeaux. I extended our stay by a day and they took care of our needs. I will definitely return to France and specifically Bordeaux and stay at the BW Grand Hotel Francais again. Thank you for everything BW Team!
otel located in an old building, super well renovated, high ceilings, refined decoration, very nice room with all the comforts we were looking for, a large practical bathroom and excellent shampoo, the staff was professional and charming, we had no problems during our entire stay in this hotel
We stayed here during a very hot weekend in August. Room was clean, AC was strong and staff were friendly. Location is great and we thought this place was great value for money. Would recommend and would stay here again if I ever find myself back in Bordeaux!
Room was small but clean and the air conditioning was good (and needed). Perfect location for wandering around Bordeaux. The front desk staff spoke English and were very helpful with recommendations and directions. The breakfast staff was helpful as well. We had no view but it was very quiet.
superb hotel in a great location. Rooms not large but clean and very well maintained - good fresh breakfasts. What really made this place stand out was the wonderful (multi lingual) staff - nothing was too much trouble.
Situated not far from the cathedral and close to the major shopping streets, the hotel occupies and beautiful old building. Most of the historic details are to be found on the ground floor because the rooms are very modern in decor and appearance. The superior room was large with good air con and comfortable beds. The bathroom had a separate toilet and a shower cubicle plus a shower over the bath - an unusual and very welcome benefit! Staff were all excellent and very helpful. This will surely be our go to in Bordeaux for our next visit.
The staff was very helpful and spoke English. They were very pleasant. There was a fridge and coffee marker in the room that was so well appreciated I could kiss the floor. Perfect location. They give you a water bottle. Croissants at the front desk! : ) Nice air conditioning.
Very nice hotel and lovely staff! We were on our honeymoon and they made everything so nice for us. Regaedless, the hotel is very well located, the rooms are big and clean. Would recommend and would return.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We stayed there twice in July, once for 7 days and we returned the following week for another 4 days. The location is awesome, proximate to all the action in downtown Bordeaux! It is off a quiet street and you can walk anywhere! I give a big shout out to the wonderful reception staff who made it so comfortable for us! Top of our list is Nicolas, who always exceeded our expectations with any requests we made of him! The entire reception staff, Malika, Jann, Sarah, Valentin, and Emma were all great to work with. Thank you guys, for all your help. We will always remember the awesome customer attitude that you displayed! The deluxe room was comfortable and the breakfast was good! The hotel was very clean and well maintained! It was a first time for us in Bordeaux and we had a great visit, thanks to a very comfortable stay here!
We stayed here on our way to a wedding in Bordeaux .air con excellent during heat wave .staff so helpful courteous and friendly.super comfortable beds .the hotel situated in a lovely safe district and central to everything .
Given the reviews I had read for this hotel on Trip Advisor, we had expected a good experience. However, it was actually an amazing experience. Every hotel employee we encountered was amazing, and so unbelievably helpful and kind. When we first arrived, they weren't sure our rooms were ready and the woman at the front desk got us some ice water while we waited (2 minute wait!). We asked if they had stamps at the front desk for our postcards and they did not, but said they were happy to take them and get them mailed for us. We had some many of these truly above and beyond experiences with everyone at the front desk. We have stayed at many hotels, some three star, some five star, and the customer service we received at the BW Grand Hotel Francais was among the very best. I cannot recommend the hotel highly enough! The rooms are on the smaller side (typical in Europe) so we opted for their bigger rooms. Still not huge, but definitely big enough. The rooms were updated, with a very modern and nice bathroom. Air conditioning worked well, which was key as there was an extreme heat wave all over France when we were in Bordeaux (100 degrees fahrenheit). We didn't do breakfast at the hotel, so I can't speak to that. The location is amazing--really in the center of everything and can walk to so many things, which is so convenient. Our room faced the street, but it was not at all noisy and I am very noise-sensitive. We also had a small balcony, which was a treat.
Perfect in every way. The ideal location. Very well refurbished. My room was extremely quiet and comfortable. Breakfast great, and fresh with a good variety. Staff were amazing and very friendly. I am definitely coming here again as my overall experience was excellent and I was made to feel very welcome.
We stayed in several of the hotels listed in the area. None of them could hold a candle to BW- St Francis. The hotel is immaculate. The staff is accommodating above and beyond. Our room was small but very comfortable. We could not ask for more. We booked one night and ended up staying six nights!!!
Front desk ladies are the greatest. Very helpful & make you feel very welcome. A great breakfast buffet and can't beat the location. Rooms are very comfortable and the shower felt awesome with lots of hot water!
A two night stay - our first visit to Bordeaux - a beautiful city, but would suggest you avoid this hotel. We booked a ‘superior' room only to find it small and ill-equipped (no functioning shower or air-conditioning); we raised both issues. One staff member failed to do anything, the second did try to rectify the air-conditioning issue, though it was left to my partner to work out how the remote control worked! Ultimately, after quite a heated exchange, the following day we were offered an alternative room. This second room was allegedly also a ‘superior' room, though was more than twice the size of the first and had two showers (both working)! If it was of the same standard, why were we not offered this room when we arrived as it had not been reserved …? We left feeling ripped off; the staff were defensive, argumentative and discourteous. We were glad to leave - what was intended as an enjoyable short break was instead stressful and unpleasant. We will not be returning nor would we recommend this establishment, despite its convenient central location. In fact, it has put us off Best Western as a brand.
Excellent location, incredibly welcome and helpful staff. Clean rooms and good breakfast all made for a thoroughly enjoyable stay in this beautiful city. Found the hotel to be excellent value for money and would most definitely stay again.
The parking is in the street , and for us it was 300m away. Air conditioning not working, extractor in the bathroom not working (the room filled with steam from the shower) making the room damp. Fridge was not working. Unhelpful staff just a shrug when we pointed out the problems
This is a lovely, upmarket boutique hotel centrally located near the main shopping streets and pedestrianised areas. It is a beautiful, historic building which has been sensitively modernised with great taste. Bedrooms are very comfortable. Breakfast is delicious. Very good staff, including Jessica who is warm and welcoming. Recommended - especially for romantic couples.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staff was thoughtful and considerate. It was pleasure in all my interactions with them. Check in and check out were quick and easy. I would recommend the Grand Hotel Francais to all!
Used to the Best Western group of hotels, I checked in today for a business trip. All my requests were met upon arrival. Friendly staff, big room with all amenities. The Covid measures are professional and do not have a bearing on the quality of my stay. Recommended. JPÇ
This was the first weekend after the pandemy. Location is perfect, central but quite. Room are very clean and all the covid measurement are respected. Mask is mandatory in the common area and disinfected gel is always available. Arrows on the floor are guiding the way. We stayed in room 205, comfortable and luminous room at second floor. Breakfast is delicious and very good coffee. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Absolutely recommended. Gessica

We stayed in room 205. This is at the front of the property and has a balcony with two floor to ceiling windows/doors. Double glazing would be handy as the road does create a small amount of noise from service vehicles around 6am. The hotel is nicely appointed and tastefully decorated in neutral colours. The room is of a good size with a lovely modern bathroom which incorporates a drench type shower. Also included is a mini bar which works on a honesty policy and does not rip you off. The breakfast is plentiful. The location is perfect for wandering the old centre and shopping areas. The BIG plus is the staff. Thank you to Beatriz and Celin who speak English and are very friendly. Would we stay again? YES
We have just returned from 4 nights in Bordeaux. We stayed in room 205 which was lovely and spacious with double doors opening onto a balcony overlooking Rue de Temple. The bed was large and comfortable, bathroom with walk in shower, very clean and modern. Plenty of wardrobe space including large, free safe. The room was made up with fresh towels daily and smelled divine! The hotel itself was a mix of modern in an old building, with lovely staircase. Staff very friendly and English speaking. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on that. Only negative was that it could be quite noisy in the early morning hours so earplugs would be useful! Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Location was excellent, in walking distance of everything and very centrally located. Highly recommend.
I am behind on my hotel reviews, but wanted to write one for this place anyway. I stayed here by myself last June before meeting with a group for a workshop out of town and loved every thing the hotel and also the location had to offer. Staff were friendly and super helpful. My room was comfortable and I enjoyed my first cup of coffee every morning on the balcony. The street was very quiet at night which was wonderful. They serve a very nice breakfast every morning and the location is walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The only thing to know is that Uber will not be able to take you or pick you up in front of the hotel incase you have heavy luggage which wasn't the case for me.
We loved our room in this hotel the minute we saw it. It had great old bones (high ceilings, balcony, two French doors out onto balcony) but was also modern, immaculately clean and had a great bathroom. Best of all, it was spacious, and the location - rated 100 - is perfect for walking just about anywhere in Central Bordeaux. If you also have the city pass, you can catch a tram almost outside your door and go anywhere in Bordeaux. We were delighted when the Bordeaux Midnight Marathon ran right by; we could see it from our balcony. In spite of the central location, the little rue de Temple is very quiet, and we got a great night's sleep.
Magnificent old building with beautiful interior, lovingly maintained- located on a pedestrian only narrow street - can be accessed by taxi. The location is very, very convenient- handy to tram stop, surrounded by restaurants - 10 minute walk to Office of Tourism and main tram interchange. Superior room 203 with balcony is spacious, more than adequate storage for luggage and clothes. Spotlessly clean and very well lit. Very comfortable king size bed. Room features a desk with multiple power outlets. Two comfortable casual chairs, a large flat screen TV with two English news channels. Room is air conditioned also with internal heating system. It is cold at time of writing and AC is more than adequate for warmth. Bathroom very functional, on wall fixed toiletries. Surprisingly the towels provided appear thin compared to some large fluffy towels you occasionally experience, however, the towels provided are very “fit for purpose “ and functional. (comment not criticism) Ample storage area in bathroom. Breakfast is just amazing (included) with the usual cereals and fruit, variety of breads - there is scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sausage, bacon and incredible variety of cakes, puddings, flans tarts, Free WiFi once logged in strong and consistent. All staff encountered during our stay were friendly, helpful and professional. Faultless hospitality - recommended.
The Grand Hotel Francis is a beautiful hotel in a very convenient location. Every morning, a nice breakfast is served, including many items such as pastries, fruit, eggs, sausage, etc, Staff is very pleasant and helpful.
The Best Western Grand Francis is a comfortable hotel in a wonderful location, in the old, historic section of the city. It is near restaurants and Bordeaux's excellent tram system. Our room and bathroom were small, but it had the most terrific bed/mattress of the whole trip. The front desk staff was helpful, and the breakfast was very good. Bordeaux is a beautiful city, and we were happy to have an opportunity to explore it.
The staff are all very attentive. I like to thank the extra care that Lela took in order to make our vacation a successful event. The hotel is very clean and fairly new looking. The room and bathroom are surprisingly very large. We loved our room. The hotel is in the center of this magical city called Bordeaux. Imagine Paris, just a beautiful, but much more relaxed. I found the people of Bordeaux pleasant - embodying a true love for life, art and wine. We visited a winery and the owner of the winery made us feel truly at home, a true ambassador of the french people and country - an incredible experience. We were also very concerned with vehicle rental and parking for multiple days so hopefully the below will help others. We were able to rent a car from the airport and park in the Grand Hommes parking lot. One thing that took us a while to figure out with the many search and inquiry is where the 2nd floor welcome office in the Grand Hommes is located. The best thing is to Park the vehicle in the Grand Hommes. The Hotel will give you a stub which you can use the Grand Hommes vending parking machine. However, since we were staying multiple days and will be driving to wineries, they gave us a ticket stub for the number of days of our stay. After much search and asking in broken French and English we found the welcome center. It is located inside the parking garage on the 2nd floor (not in the stores). We took the elevator to the 2nd floor and walked up. We found it in the security office. We showed them the hotel ticket, and they were able to give us a stub for the number of days so we can easily go in and out of the parking garage after paying the hotel parking rate.
We booked this hotel based on TripAdvisor reviews. This hotel exceeded expectations. We took a tram from Gare St Jean right to the hotel. The hotel is Grand. The staff is welcoming. Our room was very spacious and clean. The AC worked well. We had an espresso maker in the room. The breakfast had so many options that it would be hard to list them all. But I enjoyed the eggs, fresh breads, pastries and fresh squeezed orange juice. The coffee was exceptional. We went on two Viator wine tours and were able to walk to them, about 7 minutes away, at 12 cour du 30 juillet. You are close to restaurants and shopping, etc. This hotel is great. We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed here for four nights in September, 2019. The room was of decent size, but the toilet room and the shower room were tight. The first thing we weren't told is that we needed to put a room key card into a slot next to the door to allow the electricity to work. There was plenty of hot water. The chambermaids were very good cleaning the room very nicely. There was an odor of 'old pipe tobacco' in the bathroom. There is no exhaust fan in the toilet nor the shower rooms. The front desk staff could not have been nicer. They ordered cabs for us when asked, I saw them hold other guests' baggage before/after their stay. The big thing you should know is that the hotel is located in a car barred area. If you have a rental car, you cannot enter this area. Cabs and delivery drivers only can enter (as well as mopeds and bicycles. So you can't take an Uber or Lyft to the front door of the hotel.
I am very pleased having selected this property: the most central location, newly renovated rooms, great breakfast and maintained aura of classic grand hotel all connects into great stay. Ok, the rooms are not big, but that is nothing unusual in France. My only wish would be the plug next to bed. otherwise no complaints indeed! Great choice !
Cycling from Royan to Sete; ‘la canal des du mers' we arrived on a particularly hot Saturday to this cool oasis of tranquility and calm and we were welcomed with open arms. The hotel is located right in the heart of the shopping district. Room for our bikes was found in a secure meeting room to put our minds at rest whilst we enjoyed the sights and sounds of this beautiful city. The hotel is beautifully appointed with obvious care and attention to detail. Complimentary mineral water and tea and coffee were provided. What did surpass our expectations was the breakfast! Superb! The selection was out of this world with a great selection of cakes for the more athletic cyclists! Kept us going all day! If you are going to treat yourself to a good nights accommodation and sumptuous breakfast look no further!
This was our 3rd stay in this hotel on our 5th visit to Bordeaux. Each time we have a room on the 2nd floor and we have gone from good to very good to even better. A large, comfortable room which seemed to have been renovated recently, with an excellent shower and 2 easy chairs. No noise at all during our week's stay. Breakfast still very good. We didn't need to trouble the receptionists much, but when the electronic keys failed(twice), they rectified the issue at once and seemed very friendly and amenable. This is now our hotel of choice for Bordeaux
You can walk to most of the main sights in a few minutes from the hotel. Bordeaux centre is car free so you will probably need a taxi form the airport or tram from the station. The rooms are medium sized and recently renovated. The bathrooms are modern- but we had difficulty getting much water out of one of the shower heads Theres not a lot of storage- but adequate The hotel serves very good breakfasts with lots of choices of hot and cold food. Fresh fruits/ cakes etc. You certainly won't leave hungry. The staff were helpful- and sorted out onward train ticket for us
We spent three nights here on a recent trip. Staff were all very friendly and nice, and offered good advice on restaurants, maps, and sights to see. Two mornings our room was even cleaned while we were at breakfast. There is an elevator. Our room was very nicely equipped and clean. As with most old-town hotels in large European cities, the rooms are not huge but adequate in size. Breakfast was very nice with lots of offerings to satisfy most anyone. Location is good to get to major sites. Great WiFi! Would happily stay here again.
Very special place. Convenient walking distance to many places of interest. Rooms small but comfortable. Shower/toilet facilities in room were exceptional, which is hard to come by in France. Breakfast was incredible! Way beyond anything I expected.
We stayed three nights in the hotel. Although the room was very small, we found the hotel to be very comfortable. The staff at the front desk very helpful and check in/check out was easy. Breakfast was exceptional. Much more than the continental I had expected. Location was in the heart of the pedestrian area. If you book in advance, I find this hotel to be an excellent value.
We were so pleasantly surprised by the attention paid to us by the Staff, who did some amazing things during our stay. They prepared a fantastic breakfast in the enchanting parlor of the hotel. The front desk Staff was so very helpful with any issues and did a great job of coordinating a taxi for our trip to the train station. Our housekeeper did an absolutely beautiful job with our room. And, the location was terrific, just a 3 to 4 minute walk to the tram stop.
This is an old, but classic hotel located in the heart of the sites and historical buildings of Bordeaux. Most of the sites were within walking distance from this hotel. The rooms are not spacious, as are many of these hotels in Europe. Breakfast is served with a freedom to sit wherever in the lobby area. Restaurants are easily within walking distance as well.
This hotel is in a perfect location for walking and seeing all of the sights. Besides the location this was a very charming hotel. We had a lovely big room which had a great bathroom and all was immaculately clean. The buffet breakfast was very nice and the dining areas was very cute and comfortable. We really enjoyed the comforts of the hotel. More importantly the staff was incredible and so very helpful. Our friends who were supposed to check in by 8 pm due to flight issues did not check in until 4am and still they received a warm welcome and help with their luggage. The day people, evening people and the night person all are to be commended for their courtesy and help throughout our stay.
This is a medium size 3-star hotel with an elevator and Paris prices. The main reason to stay here is its location which is close to both shopping and tourist sights. Tram B nearby will get you near many tourist sights. We arrived by taxi from the airport (@35 euros). Uber was not available probably because the hotel is in a restricted driving zone. You can take the bus from the airport for 2 euros but you will have @ a 600 mt. stroll to the hotel. Upon departure, a taxi to the train station was 23 euros (taxi charges from where it was called). Our room did not have any local flavor, it could have come from the “room factory store”. This very quiet room faced a large light well (@25 ft X 25 ft) on the 4th floor. The A/C in the room was very quiet and effective. The TV had 2 English TV stations BBC Worldservice and CNN Intl. The coffee machine in the room and the light on desk did not work. The bathroom was well equipped but small with only a shower. The liquid soap provided stripped the oil from our hands. Breakfast was good with a better selection and variety than most French breakfasts. Try to avoid the peak period. We came one morning at 9AM and there was no table available.
Finding a good affordable hotel in the centre of Bordeaux is not easy. We selected the Grand Hotel Français for a long weekend break and whilst it served our needs there are limitations. The pros are easy. Extremely well located and friendly staff. The cons include limited amenities, disappointing breakfast, flooding bathrooms and soulless rooms. We had to keep reminding ourselves that this is only a 3 Star Hotel, but for @ 200 EUR a night we might have expected more.
This charming family owned hotel is located perfectly in Bordeaux down a street with high end shops near landmarks, restaurants, bars and shopping. It was a perfect walking location. The hotel is charming with lots of character and excellent services. The room was comfortable although the bathroom a bit small but very efficient. We felt valued and were treated well.
Location - excellent for the tourist sites. But note it's not reachable by Uber, you need to take a taxi or walk in. Facilities - everything's a tad small but it is clean. Feels slightly old Breakfast - could be better but it's a 3 star
Stayed here for a long weekend. The hotel has a great location, just off a main street and within an easy walk of all tourist sites. The breakfast is a nice, buffet with lots of choice. The room was decent (nothing spectacular), clean and perfectly adequate if you don't spend all day in it. The bathroom was tiny. Would stay here again if returning to Bordeaux.
Stayed there four nights with my partner in April. Hotel is situated right in the middle of the town. Easy to get from airport by bus. Only short (approx 6 min) walk from bus stop. Hotel staff friendly, check-in/out fast, modern interior. Very quiet, couldn't hear a thing from corridor or other rooms. Breakfast was nice, had some selection of cheese, ham, bread, cereal etc. Good coffee. Room itself was a bit small, but it didn't matter much, as we only slept there. Bed mattress and pillows were good. I really appreciated the eco-friendly attitude. Respect! Bathroom and toilet was separate. Bathroom also very small, but had all we needed. Hotel clean and comfortable. In the morning was possible to get also newspaper in English. We enjoyed our Bordeaux visit very much and would definitely recommend this hotel. Thank you!
If you are visiting Bordeaux this is the perfect place to stay. Very clean, modern, very well appointed rooms. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly....breakfast was very good! Couldn't fault it...excellent value right in the hub of the city
Stayed one night at this property. The location is off a pedistran walk area / metro. You are very central and very close to much of what the city has to offer. If you like to walk you can explore the central city easily. The room I had was a tad small but very functional and also stylish. The check in and out was quick and easy with no issues. Breakfast was nice with plenty of breads, jams and some meats. I went to eat early and the room was not filled but if you went during peak periods you might have a hard time finding seat. None the less, breakfast was nice and the room was tasteful. Wifi was consistent and strong. Bed and bedding was comfortable and well presented. All in all, would recommend and would stay here again.
The hotel was amazing. Our room had a magnificent balcony with a lovely view. The ceilings were high and we felt like the room was very spacious. They had a buffet breakfast every morning which was very yummy. There was a nice selection of everything and it varied from day to day. The area to eat was by the entrance and it was lovely with beautiful tables and fine china. It made the breakfast even better. The hotel in in the perfect location and walking distance to everything.
My husband and I had a 3 night break here this month with another couple. We all liked the hotel very much. We thought the location was excellent, the breakfast was very good and varied and the staff most helpful. The rooms were warm and clean but slightly on the small side, especially the bathroom. However, everything we needed was there and it was fine for a short break.
We had 2 rooms for our transit stop. It was a great location for walking around and the Christmas markets. The breakfast included was excellent. Heaps of choices. My only criticism us that the rooms are too hot.
I loved staying at this hotel. I alone was on a business trip. The standard room at the 4th floor was cozy and great for one person. I could see some roofs of adjacent buildings through the window. The bed was spacious. Toothbrush and paste were provided on request. I could also borrow an umbrella for free. The hotel is located very close to the main tourist spots such as Grand Theater, Grand Hotel, and the Christmas market. I could take Line 1+ bus for airport at a bus stop not far from the hotel. The staff were kind. I enjoyed delicious breakfast, but it would be perfect if it has more menus.
Nice room Excellent accommodations. Concierge very helpful during our 5 day stay. Recommendations were very much appreciated for dining and traveling outside of Bordeaux. Breakfast was just unbelievable to start the day. Service was beyond any expectations of a fine dining establishment.
Check in was smooth. Stay was pleasant. The staff was attentive to our needs. The breakfast was varied, many choices. Location is great, at the heart of city. Really appreciated the room, was huge and super clean. Would recommend it
We stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. The room was a good size and the bathroom was really good. Good breakfast in the morning with good choice and plenty of space to eat. The staff were all very good and had the time to help us with any information regarding the city we needed. We would stay here again for sure and the location was in the middle of the city.
Great hotel and thanks to Julie on reception for being so helpful. Great location being a stone's throw from both the Gare St Jean as well as the Navette bus to the airport. The rooms are small as many are in France, but modern amenities, location was great and the breakfast was more than adequate with plenty of choice. Highly recommended.
Five nights at this nice little restaurant just off a main pedestrian street and so very centrally located. Room was nice, bathroom nice size. Breakfast buffet was fairly extensive, but it gets old after a few days, although the fresh squeezed OJ and coffee were very good.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this comfortable boutique hotel. Rooms aren't enormous, but we were able to fit our two bags in. Very clean, AC works, and WiFi is ok. Good breakfast. Convenient location.
The hotel itself was lovely with great staff and good breakfast. The location although was in a quite neighbourhood could have been better in terms of accessibility. This was also good but could have been better if you are looking for easy walking distance toward Place de la Bourse. This was slightly away but not reason to complain really. The rooms are lovely and clean although a bit small. The building from inside is fabulous
I stayed here with my 13 year old son. It was his first time abroad so we wanted a hotel which ticked all the boxes. It was fantastic and I couldn't fault anything. Couldn't do without the air conditioning as temperatures reached 30 degrees. It's a quiet hotel with only 35 rooms. Each day we came back to a clean and cool room. Staff at the desk and serving breakfast were very helpful. I couldn't fault them. Thank you to everyone at the hotel you made my Child's first experience abroad a memorable one. 5 star hotel! Bordeaux itself was amazing!
Great staff , very helpful . Great location. Very central for city visit, everything nearby . Great restaurants less than 500m away. Parking nearby and €12 a day. Great size room , Good value. Would return to this hotel again .
This hotel was in a great location and was quiet and comfortable. We particularly liked the showers. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast had a great variety of options. Would definitely stay here again.
This was a perfectly located hotel for my first trip to Bordeaux. The room was very roomy by European hotel standards. Clean. Comfortable bed and pillows. And the staff at reception were super friendly and helpful with directions. The breakfast was also delicious. Fresh squeezed orange juice!!
While traveling around Europe for 6 weeks my partner and I spent a few days in and around the Bordeaux Region of France, and for a couple of those nights the Best Western, Grand Hotel Francais, was our home away from home! Here's what future travelers need to know. First, it was actually the smallest in size of any accommodation we tried during during the course of our six weeks of hotel stays while traveling throughout Europe. I remember my partners remark upon first sight, “Wow, you cannot swing a cat in this place!” In any case, small as it was, we still give the Grand Francais a “THUMBS UP“ rating! Here's what's really nice about it. Checking in was smooth, easy and painless! BEATRICE, who was on duty the evening that we arrived was super pleasant and gave us a wonderful orientation of the city; what to do, where to go, as well some restaurant suggestions! She was quite lovely! While I must place emphasis on the fact that our room, with a queen size bed was VERY SMALL, the room itself was done out with NICER THAN USUAL finishes! Someone had thought about making the best use of the small space! It was customer friendly and convenient, good use was made of the small size, storage for a couple suit cases was available, shelves and hanging space within a wardrobe closet. The room was very clean, with excellent daily service. The bathroom was finished with very nice , better than the norm finishes, all this, for just under 135 euros per night. Inclusive in-this reasonable nightly rate, was a very nice breakfast every morning! Sometimes NICE things come in very SMALL PACKAGES! In summary, if you are okay with a small room, chances are good that you will enjoy this very nice, reasonable, conveniently located gem! Perhaps too, inquire about a larger size room, it could be that they have them, and we just didn't!
This is a wonderfully well located hotel close to the old town , river , cathedral and the bars and restaurants of Bordeaux city .A very clean and sizeable well appointed bedroom and bathroom , quiet , well restored public rooms and an excellent breakfast featuring a fresh orange juice machine and good breads cheeses and fruit etc . Great value and worthy of more than 3 stars . Friendly helpful staff too providing a charming personal service .
My husband and I stayed here for two nights recently. The hotel is in a great area, close to everything-shops,restaurants and sights. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet was good. We received a free upgrade on our room and were able to check in early. I would stay at this hotel again.
A very small hotel right in the middle of all kinds of attractions within walking distance! My husband and I traveled with my sister and brother-in-law and stayed here one night while awaiting a river cruise so I saw two rooms. Looks like all the bathrooms had been updated, a huge amount of storage area in the room, and comfortable beds. You can get a fairly extensive breakfast in their lobby area. There is lots of shopping and a beautiful cathedral within a short walking distance.
My husband and I chose to stay at this Hotel for a two night stay in Bordeaux after reading all the good reviews on Tripadvisor. We caught the Number One bus from the airport, and got off at the Gambetta stop, which is clearly shown in the bus. We asked the bus driver how to get to Gambetta Square and she kindly gave us directions. Once we were in Gambetta Square, you could see the old Porte Dijeaux Gate and it's easy to get to the Hotel from there. Walk down Rue Porte Dijeaux with your back to the gate, and Rue du Temple where the Hotel is, is on the left after a short walk. The Hotel is in a beautiful historic building, and we were lucky to be given a room on the third floor which had a pretty juliette balcony. Thank you Anna at reception! The view over the roofs was lovely. The room was spacious for a European city Hotel, and the bathroom was very modern and stylish. The reception staff and the staff at breakfast were all so helpful and their English was very good. The breakfast was excellent, fresh fruit, yogurt and juices, cereal, and hot and cold savoury items. There were croissants and fresh bread, and the most amazing cakes, chocolate, lemon and apple cakes, all delicious. We loved the location of the Hotel, it was an easy walk to all the main historic sites. We would certainly stay here again if we came back to Bordeaux.
We typically don't stay at American hotels when in Europe but this seemed to be the right fit for location and cost and it was even better. Our room was large for European standards, modern and comfortable. The breakfast was also good with a nice variety. I also have to mention the staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you BW you have a new customer.
We booked 3 days here and extended it to four once we were there. Traffic in Bordeaux is awful and SatNav directions to the reduced rate parking location were completely ineffective. The hotel is in a restricted parking area so we had to schlepp or bags about 300m to the hotel after we did eventually make it to the parking in Place de Grands Hommes. Hotel room and service were both fine except for a rather unpleasant receptionist who insisted that the fact that our room key had expired after 3 nights was our fault and that problems we experienced with the discounted rate at the parking garage was also our fault, rather than a failure of explanation on the hotel's part. No hint of an apology
Upgraded to a larger sized room and the room size was fine. Location terrific. But the room smelled extremely strong of air freshener (presumably to cover a sewage type smell). The separate toilet room was such a strong perfumed smell that I hated using it. The breakfast was ok if you prefer the sweets like cake and jam. Whole fruit in the dish was all unripe (green bananas and rock hard pears for instance). So you could have coffee and cake or bread and jam but the meats were salty and poor quality. Gnats in the breakfast room as well. Wifi continually dropped when attempting to use. The lobby is basically one small room with the front desk so if you need to wait for them to clean your room, it's awkward. In summary, I'd describe it as very much a budget hotel. Will look elsewhere next time.
Convenient location with easy access to nice parts of Bordeaux. Outstanding staff who were quite helpful with a misplaced article situation. Handled nicely and with discretion. Breakfast was nearly excellent and the room comfortable and business-friendly.
Clean, comfortable bed, nice towels and great breakfast. All the staff were delightful and very helpful. Easy walk into the city. Parking a 10 min walk to multi story ,clean and new parking facility and only €19 a night.
This hotel is well situated on a quiet street yet within walking distance of everything in the old city. The staff was helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was fabulous with homemade cakes, pastries, meats, cheeses and freshly squeezed orange juice. The rooms are clean but small, typical of European boutique hotels. The price was very inexpensive for the location and the breakfast. I would definitely stay here again.
I took the advice of Trip Adviser reviewers and booked our stay at the BW Grand Francais. We loved it! Centrally located but on a side street, footsteps away from the public transportation, sumptuous breakfasts, nice big rooms, comfortable beds. We also decided to order the room service dinner. I'm not one to ever comment on room service but we were blown away by the food and later found out it comes from a jar!! It is a very old company that specializes in hotel catering and they've perfected some amazing food - from Beef Burgundy to Chourizo tortellini to the Crepes Suzette were so good I tried to find out if we can have some imported here. But no. Good value for the money, location, service, and food! Would definitely go back!
We stayed at the Best Western hotel which was perfectly located to walk around the center of the city. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. It included all kinds of breads, pastries, fresh juices and other delicious items.
clean, proper, pleasent, cosy and charm we have stayed in bordeaux before our return to home. i have to say that this hotel is just perfect if you stay there for several nights. the location is the best , right in the center !!
This was our second choice in Bordeaux, and it was a good one. Location was very good, about seven blocks from the waterfront (which is superb, by the way). Hotel was neat, clean, and quiet, and I cannot say enough for the helpfulness and cheerfulness of the staff. The room was a bit tight, but not uncomfortably so, and the air conditioning worked well. One night we kept the window open but had to close it at 2 a.m. because of some noises, but generally the room was very quiet and decently comfortable. Breakfasts were impressive: hard boiled and scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, several cheeses, more delicious cakes than I could sample, and organic jams and jellies -- plus fresh squeezed orange juice, other juices, fruit, and do-it-yourself coffee (which we love!). I would return here easily.
Stayed in this charming hotel for four very pleasant nights recently. The bedroom size is adequate, not overly roomy. Lovely view over the roof tops and of the street below from a small balcony. Nice touch is the coffee machine in the room, good coffee to start off the day. The breakfast room is split over two sides of the entrance of the entrance hall, but no matter which side you opt to sit in, you will enjoy a very good buffet breakfast. It's nice to get scrambled eggs that are made in the kitchen, not bought in and re-heated. Take the stairs to your room instead of the lift to get a feel for the character of the hotel. The staff both in the reception area and in the dining room were just as friendly as they could be. Check out time is a respectable 12 noon, and the staff were very helpful in minding our luggage as we spent another couple of hours in wonderful Bordeaux. The location is excellent, close to everything that a visitor might want ... local historic sites, easy access to the 5km river promenade, shopping streets and very good restaurants close by, very helpful tourist office jut a couple of streets away ... And in addition, if you need to get to the airport and are happy to use public transport... the No. 1 bus at a stop about five minutes walk from the hotel ... perfect!
Stayed here one night as part of a tour group. It is a pleasant hotel. Staff was extremely helpful. Easy access to computer to print boarding passes. Room was small but well appointed-very clean. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Hotel is close to shopping area.
Despite the gaudy Best Western branding (next to the old, classic exterior sign), and the deluge of U.S. tourists it brings, this boutique hotel has managed to retain its friendly personality and traditional French charm. Rooms are quite small but well furnished. Breakfast was included in the price and attractively served.
Perfectly acceptable room at a reasonable rate. Excellent staff who most appreciate you speaking French !!! Decent breakfast. Very central. As this is not a large city there is no excuse for not walking everywhere. All the main attractions can be reached within 20 minutes. The airport bus is barely 5 minutes' walk at a leisurely pace and only £1.80 !!!
Very quiet secure location close to all the sightseeing areas and shopping. No beggars around the hotel which is a big relief as they are omnipresent in the centre and will approach you directly. Very friendly reception team. Lovely interior, you really feel you are in a true Bordeaux building. Breakfast is basically continental but very good quality coffee, good selection of cakes and breads. Also offers yoghurt, fruit and fresh orange juice. Room big by French standards, big TV, free wifi. Bathroom a little dated but adequate. Lots of lighting in the room and extra seating. Great to have a coffee machine and fridge. Bed very comfortable.
Even though we spent only a night there before catching our train to Paris, we can recommend this well managed hotel. My wife has a knee problem and they put us into one of their approved rooms. Excellent large fully arranged room on first floor. The breakfast is large and has all you could want. Not the best choice if you arrive by car since it is on a restricted pedestrian narrow street. Taxis have access and will take you right front door. Short walk to shopping streets and not much longer to Tourist Office and main square. Very good choice for visitors since front desk receptionists speak excellent English
In the city Center, walking distance from all locations and shops. What a great hotel with all amenities you need for a relaxing city trip. Rooms are well equipped, comfortable beds, lovely breakfast, what else do you need? Perfect. We'll be back.
The hotel is very close to center yet in a quiet street. Perfect breakfast in a bright room. Although rooms are not too big, they are well organized with air conditioning and an espresso machine. Would love to go back
If you new to Bordeaux the best way to access the hotel is by taxi. Driving a hired car with a GPS is a challenge as the number of one ways and tram lanes you need to access are confusing. Adding to that are the bollards and intercoms that allow access in these pedestrian friendly streets. So use a taxi and save time. The rooms are clean, neat and very functional. Most disappointing is the quality of the WiFi especially on iOS devices. Connecting is a challenge or though the instructions are simple, not all devices connect easily and some do not connect at all. Breakfast is a simple affair and typical continental Europe with a wide variety of baked products and cheeses. Overall a great location if you wish to explore Bordeaux on foot as all the shopping and tourist spots are within walking distance.
My mum and I stayed for a couple nights last July in the Best Western Grand Hotel Francais while doing wine tasting in the region and exploring Bordeaux. Our room was rather basic (though good value), had all the necessities, and the bed was very comfortable. We had incredible natural light in a window that looked out onto charming rooftops. Breakfast was one of the best on our trip. Many, many options - something for everyone. Location could not be better - in town centre and easy to walk around the city. I would stay here again.
Nice clean hotel with phenomenally good location right in the heart of the city. Friendly staff and great value. Breakfast is average but no complains about anything else. Great job, will return again!
My wife and I stayed for three nights. The room was perfectly adequate, clean and comfortable. Like many hotels they tend to be stingy on in room tea and coffee! Great location - within walking distance of the sights and shops of central Bordeaux and if you come off the main roads there are some fabulous restaurants. Room (303) overlooked the quiet Rue du Temple. Lovely old building. Breakfast was super - great coffee, fresh orange juice and an ample choice of continental breakfast foods supplemented by sausage, bacon and scrambled eggs. Good value for money hotel which, although only three stars (officially), deserves four for its location and lovely, helpful staff.
We were very impressed with this really good hotel. Very comfortable room, excellent breakfast and super location right in the centre. Parking is very close by...5 minute walk to Les Grandes Hommes where you can get a discount if you ask the hotel. Cost us 45 euros for 3 days and you can take the car in and out with the same ticket.
This hotel is but beautiful. The rooms are spacious and overlook the quaint street. It is situated extremely centrally in Bordeaux and is very good value given its proximity to key sites. It's extremely easy to get around Bordeaux from this hotel. Highly recommend if you don't want to break the bank but would like to stay somewhere that is well placed within the city.
Location is central on a nice side street with convenient access to sights and museums. A very lovely hotel, not inexpensive but worth it especially for the exceptional service. We sprung for a larger room for our stay and was glad we did. The extra room, comfortable bed and expresso machine was wonderful after a day of sightseeing. When we booked, we asked for a room on a high floor, overlooking the street and we were accommodated no problem. Staff was wonderful, spoke English and was eager to help with our (many) requests. Room rates include a full breakfast of sausage, eggs, breads, cakes, juice, yogurt, fruit salad, etc. etc. in a lovely setting. Everything impressive and delicious. Totally recommend this hotel.
I made a mistake by booking for a single, not paying attention to the web site. I called to BW and corrected the error to a double. What I got was very small room with no closet on the back of 4th floor. At the end of stay, I was charged an additional 56 Euro for one nite, not a good deal. So be careful booking through TripAdvisor . The hotel itself is charming and in the middle of everything. The front desk staff are very nice and helpful. Breakfast was above average. Other than that, it is not a bad place to stay for a night or two. Be mindful of room size.
Very good hotel - spacious room which was spotlessly clean. Bathroom was small but adequate with a separate toilet. Breakfast area was nicely set out (beside reception) with a good selection of food. Staff at reception were friendly and helpful. Location was ideal - in the centre of Bordeaux just around the corner from the main shopping area with lots of restaurants. Although this is a busy area the hotel itself was actually very quiet as it is in a pedestrianised street.
Super hotel in the middle of this lovely city. Excellent location. Rooms are great, everything you need. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We only breakfasted here so can't comment on dining but breakfasts were super.
Very well located Hotel. Small bathroom but for the price had no complaints the rainfall shower was lovely. We had an almost silent room on the 4th floor even with the windows open all night. The reception staff were very polite and helpful. Very reasonably priced mini bar too.
We stayed 2 nights in the spring in one of the hotels larger rooms on the first floor. The hotel is in the pedestrian district and so there is no reason to be concerned by traffic noise although the odd group of passing revelers may wake you up. The room was a decent size with Spears bath/shower and WC. The wardrobe was fine for a weekend but unlikely to work for a longer stay of a week. The reception team were really helpful for an earlier booking cancelled due to bad weather. The breakfast was extremely good for a hotel of this type in France. Plenty of choice and a machine for juicing oranges. It is also included in the price. Small lounge area should you get to visit during an Atlantic storm!! Overall a solid 3*hotel. Code NPS
Stayed in 406 on the top floor (luckily they have a small lift!) at the front over the Rue de Temple with a 'view' over the rooftops of Bordeaux. Room adequately sized although wardrobe a little small, bathroom met our needs and a nice rainforrest shower. Air conditioning was a plus. Bed comfortable, wi-fi a bonus and hot and cold buffet breakfast excellent. Limited food available by room service but excellent bistros in the area. Staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful. The hotel is located very conveniently for most of the major tourist sites and the tram to travel further afield. No hesitation in recommending this hotel.
We had to change our booking after being let down by ATC strike and when we rebooked our original choice was fully booked but this hotel was suggested instead. What a good suggestion it was. It is right slap bang in the middle of Bordeaux and up a side street which was nice and quiet. When we first went up to our room on the 4th floor we were a bit disappointed at how small it was. I was hoping for a nice ironwork balcony but we did have a double window we could open and there was AC if we required it. All the essentails were there, a very comfortable bed, great bedding, pillows, etc. Nice fluffy white towels, we had a rain shower head in a walk in unit, (much preferred to over a bath) which was excellent. Although tiny the shower room was very clean and functional. There was a capsule coffee machine in the room and I wish they had put a few more instructions beside it. I read in previous reviews that the coffee was only lukewarm. We initially found this but if you run some water through the machine a couple of times you will get hot coffee! The staff at the front desk were courteous and helpful when we needed any asistance. The breakfast staff were lovely, I think the girl who was working there was called Patricia, nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was what made the hotel for us, it was superb and served in a very stylish breakfast area. A speedy coffee machine delivering great espresso and a novel juicing machine that produced lovely fresh orange juice. Great variety of fresh breads, pastries, eggs, cold meat, cheeses, preserves, fruit and yoghurts. The crowing glory was the selection of home made cakes and biscuits, they were so delicious! If we ever return to beautiful Bordeaux we would go back to stay here as the location is great. Have already recommended it to someone planning a trip to Bordeaux. Thank you :)
I stayed here in May 2016 and plan to return there again in 3 weeks. The front desk staff is wonderfully helpful and speak fluent English. Their restaurant recommendations were spot on -- we still talk about the memorable places they referred us for dinner. Quiet, reasonably priced, their buffet breakfast was included in the price... nothing like fresh squeezed orange juice and eggs for this patron. Oh, because this hotel is located in the heart of downtown close to the metro (yet quiet I might add), prices drop for the weekend to attract the non-business person.
Booked at the last minute. We were very pleased with the hotel accommodation. The reception were very welcoming. The rooms are well appointed (not lavish) the location is the key. Take time to read the confirmation email if it arrives in time and you will save 30 minutes trying to find parking on the street and go to the large underground parking instead. Looking forward to a good snooze and breakfast tomorrow morning.
A no frills 3 star hotel. Nicely and recently decorated and very clean. Apart from a few seats and the breakfast area, no common use spaces. The breakfast was fine, if not great. Very little hot food - just scrambled egg and some not very appetising sausages. Mainly cheese, cold meat, bread, cakes, jams and cereal. Freshly pressed orange juice and reasonable coffee rounded it off. The only other food available at other times seemed to be microwaved packaged meals, that you could order at any time of the day. The room was neat, clean and tidy. We paid extra for a 'Comfort sized' room. Still not very big. All the rooms had a coffee maker - which unfortunately could only produce luke warm water - useless. The hotel said none of them worked and they will replace them. The location was good. The small road the hotel is on was quiet. It was near the shops, in the up market and of town. The trams were close. Getting in from the airport was easy and cheap using the very regular (every 10 mins) ligne 1 bus from the airport. Get off at the Gambetta Meriadeck stop (watch the display on the bus) and walk through mainly pedestrian areas via Gambetta square to the hotel. About 5 mins. At 1.5 euros, much cheaper and more regular than the airport shuttle bus, and very, very much cheaper than the taxis (around 50 euros+). Use the trams, buses and water buses - all on the same tickets - for getting around. They are great, regular and cheap. I tried to book the hotel several months in advance through booking.com. Booking.com seem to be just agents and the hotel itself uses the credit card details to reserve a small amount of euros on the card to check it is a working card. That's fine and normal. However, I would first get an ok from booking.com, and then 7-10 days later the hotel would say the card was not working, and could I provide another. We went through this process with several cards, and each failed. I phoned the hotel and did it directly over the phone - but still no luck. These cards were all working for me, and indeed were working for hotels in the Netherlands. Eventually, I booked through Expedia, and paid up front (using one of the cards refused by the hotel). As the booking via Expedia was much much nearer the holiday date - I got a much lower room rate. So I saved a good chunk of money - must try this again in future. The other irony was that I paid for extra things at the hotel with one of the cards they had refused.
We had two room for five nights at this hotel, and it was ideal for a short Autumn break in Bordeaux. The hotel is perfectly situated in the old part of the city, close to two main streets, but on a pedestrianised side street. There is a tram route nearby, and the river bank is a short walk away, as is tourist information. The rooms are not big, but they are comfortable, with high quality fittings and good beds. Our room did not have a bath, only a shower. There was a simple breakfast every day - breads, cheeses, cakes, eggs, sausages... and an orange juice maker! Staff were efficient and polite, if not friendly. No hesitation in highly recommending this hotel. TIP: if you arrive in Bordeaux at the airport, don't concern yourself with taxis. The number 1 bus is perfect for this hotel, leaves frequently and costs E1.50 - or less if you buy a ten pack of tickets (which can also be used on the wonderful Bordeaux tram system and the water taxi)
mid-range hotel, simple decor but entrance and main reception area classy. Very varied and delicious breakfast buffet with locally sourced products. A fresh orange juice press is great. but the details of food layout even more impressive.Quiet location despite being in city centre
To be fair we'll start with positives: ??PROS: LOCATION: As other reviews noted - in middle of the beautiful Old Town. A tram stop is right nearby (fantastic tram system here) + there's a few supermarkets nearby & other great shopping although of course, brand name/expensive around Old Town. Only a few blocks to more affordable shopping + malls with most services eg. I had a hairtrim/colour as we had been travelling for 2 months. BREAKFAST: Nice range of food to meet more tastes and cultures. A self serve style and don't expect much service (see CONS). A pleasant enough room for breakfast. ROOM & THE BUILDING: Our room had a large enough window to get some natural light & it overlooked the street & other historic apartment style buildings (see photo). There is a lift as well as an attractive lobby/small sitting area & a beautiful stylish staircase (see photo) - like an elegant sculpture. COFFEE/TEA FACILITY: free quality coffee (but like most hotels, overinflated prices on other drinks - see CONS). FRIENDLY & EFFICIENT CLEANERS ??CONS: 2 major problems which, if not for the above +s, would have caused us to rate this hotel "terrible". Problem No 1: For the first time, in our many years of travel, my husband needed to see a dentist while away from home. I went to reception and asked the young woman (who also checked us out on departure) if she could advise us on where to go. She agreed to phone around and let us know (her English was fine so no misunderstanding about what we needed). She didn't get back to us and instead went home in the afternoon without leaving us a message. Consequently, my husband was in pain during the night. In the morning I asked if she had found a dentist...she gave me a blank stare and finally replied "no, the dentist didn't ring me back". When I suggested she could have advised us of that before she went home the day before, she became very argumentative and defensive. I showed surprise at her uncaring manner and she then begrudgingly apologised - it was more like acknowledging that she had done the wrong thing. No offer from her of trying to help in a more timely/helpful manner to make up for her mistake so instead I rang around myself until we found a dentist who could speak good English + help. Problem No 2: - After we had departed, the hotel thought it acceptable to put an additional charge on our credit card without any reference to us! There was no correspondence with us & no detail was provided - the audacity to take money from our account! - After our initial complaint about this (via email) they responded by saying some drinks were used, even though we had made it clear that we did not consume them. We sent another email suggesting the hotel examine their own systems as either the hotel made an error or staff within the hotel are dishonest. - When they finally realised that we were definitely not going to accept this behaviour from them, they emailed to say that it was their error after all! An apology was given but it still left us wondering if Problem 1 (described above) and Problem 2 (this one) were linked? Minor Problems: Not much information or warmth from reception on arrival. We asked for a map & it was handed over without any suggestions or inspiration to encourage us to explore/spend in this wonderful city (a wasted opportunity for Bordeaux tourism it seems). At breakfast the service is average/inattentive - they don't clear the plates but instead focus on clearing/preparing other tables. TO SUM UP: We plan on returning to beautiful Bordeaux again but we won't be returning here.
Unfortunately we only had one night here but the hotel is excellent. From the entry into the lobby, small but elegant, to wonderful front desk staff the experience begins with warmth. The initial entry to the rooms is a little disappointing as the furnishings could be considered very basic. But then the bed and bedding are excellent quality and the bathroom and fixtures are outstanding. The continental breakfast offered here is very very good. Overall this is a hotel which i have ne roblem at all recommending.
This hotel is down a side street but in the middle of everything. You can walk everywhere in the city. The employees are wonderful - very helpful, very friendly. The room was very clean, well appointed and a decent size.... with air conditioning. Breakfast had many options and was a typical European breakfast. We left our coats hanging in the closet. We called once we remembered, talked to one employee who was not so helpful, maybe she was busy checking people in. She promised to call us back the next day but did not, so we called again and was fortunate to get Pauline. She said she would checked with the maids and call us the next day which she did. They found our coats and agreed to ship them to us. It is a little hard to find, we had to use GPS. The front desk employee show us where to go to the parking lot and helped us get our luggage out of the car. Our luggage was in our room when we arrived back at the hotel. Parking is paid, but the hotel negotiated a rate with the parking lot. Really great customer service. Definitely would recommend this hotel.
Out second visit was consistent with the first. A warm welcome and friendly check in. Diverse and delicious breakfast for powering up before a long day of walking and wine tasting. I really enjoyed a bread with swirled chocolate inside of it. Make it yourself fresh squeezed OJ is a lot of fun to watch and tasty. Nice selection of meats and cheeses. Chocolate cake bites for breakfast, yes!! Location is pretty hard to beat. Easy walk to most Bordeaux city destinations. We used the tram for the first time and several stops are close by. Had an interior '01 room which seemed quieter than our street room last year. Comfy bed and necessary amenities. Other hotels may have more "services", but not sure why anyone would stay much longer than sleep and breakfast in their hotel while visiting Bordeaux. So much to see. If you need a workout, grab running shoes and head down to the river for one of the better runs at any city destination. Parking garages are several blocks away if you wish to have a car during your visit.
The hotel is located in a centralized location in Bordeaux close to fine shopping areas and great restaurants. It's about 6 blocks from the river. I drove here to drop off luggage before returning the car to the train station. It can be done but the streets are one way and extremely narrow, along with pedestrian walkways. There is one unloading spot in front of the hotel, thank goodness. I used a Garmin which did an adequate job, but the Google maps had problems acquiring signals in the narrow streets. Check-in was easy, the front desk staff was very helpful in suggesting restaurants or giving directions to the tram stops (hotel is about 4 blocks from the "B" line stop on Cours de L Intendance). Rooms are comfortable and roomy, good showers, and quiet even when I was on the first floor facing the street. Breakfast is almost anything you want. Large assortment of meats and cheeses, cereals, breads, eggs, fresh squeezed orange juice. You couldn't ask for much more. On checkout the clerk allowed us to store our bags for a couple of hours so we could shop. I would definitely return to this hotel.
The Grande francais is a lovely little hotel situated on a quiet side street but in pretty much the centre of the happening scene in Bordeaux. Service was very good from breakfast through to reception and housekeeping. Although rooms are a little small it's what you expect and the location and quality of the hotel more than make up for this. Would not hesitate to stay here again if we are in Bordeaux.
Location is good to most of the key tourist venues. The room we were in the first night was very spacious, however on our return a week latter they put us in a room that was tiny, however we are charged at the same rate. If WiFi is important to you give this hotel a big miss, I could only get a connection if I stood out in the hallway in front of my bedroom or down in reception.
The location is great, just next to most of the attractions in Bordeaux and a few hundred meters to the restaurants and cafes, walkable to everywhere basically. The staff was amazing, I have never seen a quicker check in and check out process. Breakfast is better than many French hotels, there's scrambled eggs, cheese and ham.. and a great variety of French pastries. I had trouble sleeping because the room we were in overlooked the street and it was a Saturday evening. The bed was too small for two people, I guess couples who do not like to sleep too sticked together may have a hard time.
We stayed one night en route to our destination near Sarlat having flown in from Bordeaux. Very good location, wonderfully quiet and although pretty basic, the room was spacious, clean and bed comfortable. Staff very helpful. Parking in the nearby shopping centre is much cheaper if you have evidence of your booking.
A well run hotel. Staff very efficient and helpful. Rooms are spotlessly clean. Although we upgraded to a comfort room the room was quite small. We asked for a walk in shower which was provided in a really compact bathroom, smallest I've seen. Nevertheless a good shower. Air conditioning worked well as did the coffee machine. A mirror over the desk might be useful for ladies - I don't think many ladies put their mark up on in the bathroom. Comfortable bed and smooth cotton sheets. Hotel situation is excellent. Quiet little street in the heart of the city - literally straight out on to main shopping area and plenty of cafes and bars and restaurants close by. Tourist information is about 8 minutes walk away. And Line 1 bus direct from the airport stops close by €1:80 Would definitely recommend as a good all rounder
It is 4 years since I reviewed this hotel and this time it exceeded even my high expectations. We were in an even better room than before with clean, comfortable beds; loads of storage room and it was quiet despite being next to the lift. Everything worked as it should e.g. easy to operate safe, air-con. The bathroom was magnificent with a good sized bath with its own shower and a separate large shower room. It also had his and her wash basins and a separate toilet, although I found the cubicle a little small and I am not a large person. The breakfast was excellent with real scrambled eggs and replenished quickly The icing on the cake was when a huge thunderstorm broke out and we could not reach our reserved restaurant so the hotel provided a 3 course meal in the dining room(they do not have a restaurant) and a St.Emilion Grand Cru at 33 Euros. I think this is a 4*hotel
This hotel is situated in a quiet side-street just off one of the up-market shopping areas in Bordeaux. Most of the streets in this area are pedestrianised which makes strolling around much easier - watch out for cyclists though! The reception area and breakfast rooms are very attractive but the room itself was rather dull and brown. We upgraded to the Comfort Room which was reasonably spacious, with separate toilet and bathroom. The bed was comfortable, and the air-conditioning very welcome. The only time we saw many people in the hotel was at breakfast - everything is buffet style but the only hot food was scrambled eggs and sausages. Otherwise there were the usual bread and pastries, plus a huge selection of cakes and some fruit. The staff at reception were very helpful with restaurant recommendations and booking us a taxi. Be warned though - our taxi from the airport was 27euros, but the return one was 55euros. This was probably not the hotel's fault, but I would check with them what the cost will be before booking.
Located smack in the centre of Bordeaux's shopping district. Car parking is in a municipal car park about 150 metres away. We were welcomed well by the staff and given a large room with a six foot bed. It looked inwards which gave us a very quiet night, but no view Horrid yellow plastic chairs rather spoiled the effect plus a mirror so high up bthe bedroom eall a shorter person could not see in it. The bathroom was modern and vast with an enormous shower, even if the separate loo might be a bit of a tight fit for the larger guest. Good pc and printer facilties.
We were lucky to receive the "Early Web Special" by booking through their website, which made it very affordable for our one night stay. The service at this hotel is of a very high quality and we very much enjoyed our stay in this elegant little hotel. We are fans of 18-century architecture and this building has been beautifully renovated. The hotel is located in a side street off the main walking street in Bordeaux centre.
Spent two nights here - would recommend the Comfort room. Lovely breakfast choice, room comfortable and very fresh. Central prime location with good restaurants in the area. Near main attractions plus quality shops.
Wonderful family holiday in this charming hotel. Great location, easy walk to restaurants and places of interest. The staff were very helpful. Rooms spacious and clean. Breakfast included in our room rate was fanstatic. We didn't have a car, so caught the No1 bus from the airport and back again. We even went to the beach for the day, catching a train to Arcachon from the Gare. You can get the C tram to the station. I would recommend this hotel and would love to stay again.
Great spot for exploring Bordeaux. Breakfast was average and rooms a little on the snug side - but was clean, fairly quiet, and well kept, great admin support and nice sitting area downstairs. Was able to leave luggage when arriving and exiting at times that varied from check in and check out. 24 hours service on the desk was good to have if needed.
The hotel is ideally situated, in a quiet, narrow street within short strolls from Bordeaux's historic sites, shops, cafes and trams. The hotel is charming, clean and well-kept. Staff all very pleasant and helpful. Breakfasts good, in a charming dining area. We had room 103 on the first floor overlooking the street, a perfect choice. It was spacious and charmingly furnished. Bathroom is dated but OK. Shower is over the bath and it was hard to avoid wetting the bathroom floor, but not a real problem. We presume rooms 104, 203 and 204 also face the street. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
The service is excellent and everybody will do their best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. The street and the hotel are very quiet. The breakfast include lots of temptations ! Do not hesitate to book the most expensive rooms if you like some space. Be aware toilets are not separated from the shower.
The hotel is in a fantastic location and this combined with the tram system makes everything accessible. The staff are helpful and welcoming and nothing seems too much trouble. Rooms are spotlessly clean and really comfortable. Delicious breakfast, with a good choice alongside coffee and fresh orange juice. If I returned to Bordeaux I would definitely stay here again .
Some reviewers have commented that the rooms are small. We must have been lucky with ours as it was a decent size and had a balcony. Good choice of breakfast and freshly squeezed orange juice. We took the advice of previous reviewers and caught the line 1 bus from the airport to Gambetta which is a short walk away. Hotel is within walking distance of bars, restaurants and attractions. Try to get a room at the front of the hotel.
This hotel does everything a good Best Western should. It is immaculately clean, staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are a good size, with air con and tea/coffee making facilities. The breakfast is a continental buffet style but is well stocked and all the food is good quality. The hotel is in an excellent location and convenient for both trams and buses - very highly recommended.
I highly recommend this hotel. The staff was welcoming and consistently very helpful. The room was spacious and clean. And the location was perfect: very centrally located in the center of Bordeaux. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. Breakfast was a real treat. The breakfast room was elegant yet still very relaxing, with its white table cloths, marble fireplaces and chandeliers. The food was excellent, with very fresh and well-cooked standard breakfast items, e.g. eggs, sausages, fresh fruit, croissants, pastries & breads, cold meats, etc. They also offered a wide assortment of cakes, biscuits and puddings, all freshly baked on the premises. On every level, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return without hesitation.
Small hotel in a very convenient location on the western edge of the old town. Easy walking distance to all the main attractions and of course the shopping. Some lovely little squares for outdoor dining within 5 mins walk. Hotel was good value for money with rooms comfortable but basic. Breakfast room not large with a limited variety compared to larger 5 star hotels but did the job.
We very much enjoyed our quiet, clean convenient, helpful, friendly stay at this hotel. All you need add to this a good serve yourself breakfast and good location, walk to anywhere. Our room 105 had a dual balcony facing the (narrow) laneway was roomy and very comfy with arm chairs and separate bathroom and toilet.
Excellent location. Superb breakfast. Comfortable bed. Good price. Overall recommended. Lady in the counter helpfull but not nice. Close to nice restaurants and close to tourist center Room not big but comfy. Clean. Only one channel in English- CNN and one in spanish TVE.
First, don't be put off by the location and what appears to be the exterior, this is a lovely property and a perfect location! It is right in the heart of the university district and much of that portion has not be renovated as much of the rest of the city, however you are in walking distance to everything. Once you go through the street door, you are treated to a lovely garden and and wonderful host. There is a open terrace for everyone and besides the common dining area, there is a very comfortable living room. Our room was very comfortable and it's lovely to find hotels with king sized beds! Highly recommended.
A nicely located hotel in city center. Easy to get to from the train station on tram C followed by a short walk. Very close to restaurants and shopping. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The accommodations were adequate. A little odd with the shower and sink in a separate room from the toilet. Both were right next to the bed so not a lot of piracy and it's hard not to disturb someone sleeping. Shower also spilled a lot of water out of the tub/shower due to small glass partition which only enclosed about a 3rd of the tub. But again, it was adequate for a short stay. Best part was it's location being close to so much and the friendly staff.
Great hotel, beautiful historical building well renewed, very well located in the city center. Good breakfast. Friendly and efficient employees. Ugly courtyard view, very small room, one the smallest I had in my life, very difficult to circulate when you are 2, due to the small volume, bad feeling of no air over night, we opened the window with mosquito as a result.... Pity.....
The location of this hotel was second to none. The staff where extremely friendly, helpful and pleasant. There is a breakfast room but there were so many cafes, restaurants bars close to the hotel we didn't bother and went out to breakfast in the sunshine. Room was a little bit on the cosy side but again the location makes up for that. Walking distance to nearly everywhere and trams in close proximity
My wife and I stayed here for four nights in early May, ‘16, at the beginning of our visit to southwest France. It was an excellent choice and we recommend it highly. The Grand Hotel Francais is a very attractive, well-managed hotel on the edge of the main pedestrian area of Bordeaux. It is very well located – an easy walk to most sites, including shops, restaurants, the tourist information office, and to public transportation. Discounted parking is available at the underground facility Grandes Hommes a few blocks away. When we arrived we didn't have a car (picked it up as we left Bordeaux at the Avis office near the train station) and instead took the #1 bus from the airport to Place Gambetta and from there was an easy 10-minute walk through pedestrian streets to the hotel, even with luggage. (Note – buses and trams in Bordeaux are very luggage friendly.) Picking up our car was also easy by taking a tram near the hotel to the Quinconces center and changing to another tram that let us off just a block from the Avis office. Our room was quiet, moderate-sized, stylishly decorated, and very comfortable. It was well-designed for efficiency and comfort, with plenty of storage space and a clever pull-down clothes rod in the built-in closet. There was a writing desk, mini-bar, side-chair, comfortable double bed, and a bureau with a tv and excellent 1-cup coffee maker. The wifi was strong and fast. The attractive lobby and breakfast area looks like part of an old mansion. The front desk staff were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful with dinner reservations and suggestions. The breakfast buffet (included in our rate) was very good, and included fruit, yogurt, meats, cheese, and scrambled eggs. The coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice were particularly good, as were the fresh pastries. The Grand Hotel Francais is priced at the high-end of the moderate range, but we felt it was very good value for what we received. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Located on a quiet side street in a largely pedestrian zone, this hotel is very well located for visiting most sights in central Bordeaux. It is also less than 5 minutes to a tram stop should you wish to travel farther afield (for example to the excellent Cite du Vin museum). Rooms are average size, but feature a large closet and were kept very clean and in good shape. The buffet breakfast was nicely stocked and kept well replenished. Of note was a fresh orange juice squeezer for breakfast, and a gift of local honey; nice touches.
nice contemporary style, combined with renovated original details. Situated near the main square and everything you would like to visit as a tourist. Nice breakfast restaurant and lobby. But be aware that quite a few of the rooms are really small. You have trouble finding a place for to open your suitcase (a part from keeping it in your bed). So recommend that you pay a little extra an get one of the bigger rooms.
Lovely stylish hotel in the World Heritage Site. It's Just a short walk to the cathedral, the main shopping area, restaurants and the river, where you can take a boat to the new Cité du Vin. We had a quiet room, comfortable & well furnished, and the bathroom was ultra modern & clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were exceptional, the best we've ever come across in France, with lots of local specialities. The building itself is a magnificent town house, which has been renovated with excellent taste. Every detail was perfect. All in all, a wonderful experience.
We had asked for a quiet room and got room 206, a standard double. It was very quiet, but to be honest, as Rue du Temple is a very quiet street, I think all the rooms will suit light sleepers like me. Only reason I have knocked off one star is that the room was very small - if you had a large suitcase, I've no idea where you would put it. That said, the room was lovely - it's been well decorated in neutral tones and has well thought out lighting and storage. The bed was very comfortable as was the bed linen. Only slight issue for us was that 2 of the pillows were very lumpy and took a bit of getting used to. The other 2 were fine. The ensuite shower is very modern and has both waterfall and hand held showers with lots of hot water and good pressure. There is also plenty of shelf and seating in what is also a small space, so again well designed. My only problem was that no shower cap was supplied and I found the body/hair wash not good for hair washing, Air con unit and TV well positioned and worked well - didn't use wifi. As others have said, the breakfast was excellent with lots of choices and 3 separate eating areas near each other. Excellent coffee from the 2 machines. The hotel has an elegant, comfortable feel to it and you can walk anywhere very easily. One tip - please take the line 1 bus from the airport to Place Gambetta then walk to the hotel, just a few minutes and easy - costs about 1.5 euros each. We wasted 45 euros on a taxi. Despite my small issues, I would definitely stay again.
Spent four nights in Best Western Grand Hotel Francais and the experience was magical. Beautiful hotel and rooms - extraordinary breakfasts serving everything you can imagine, friendly and warm staff, incredible location. We will be going back to this hotel next summer!
The hotel is situated in the pedestrianised old quarter and is in easy walking distance of all the central attractions of Bordeaux. The hotel itself is a concerted town house and is magnificent, particularly the central staircase. Our double room was small, but very good over looking the rooftops of the city. A small tip, don't put the coffee machine on if your partner is still sleeping, it makes a terrible row. Breakfast was good and the staff, friendly, efficient and bilingual. All in all, very good and well worth the stay.
Everything went perfectly during our recent stay, from the booking to the bill. The receptionist was wonderfully polite, efficient and engaging and the public rooms are beautifully furnished; the whole hotel smells really nice too. The bedroom was much bigger than we had anticipated, with lots of storage, comfortable bed and nice bathroom. it was good to have a balcony from which to watch the comings and goings in Rue du Temple, and the emptiness of this street early in the morning. There is a coffee maker and, most importantly and rarely found, several electric sockets...brilliant. Wifi was free and worked OK. The hotel has some green policies and gave information about these and everything else you need to know about the hotel too. Breakfast was copious and with an interesting choice of food. Fresh orange juice, muesli, fruit, meat, eggs as well as viennoiseries. The arrangements for parking at Grand Hommes worked well too. The hotel is in a nice and quiet area of Bordeaux, convenient for all major sites, the tram and lots of restaurants. all in all, a perfect stay.
We stayed here for 2 nights in a double room at the beginning of May 2016. The hotel is perfectly located less than 5 minutes away from the grand opera house and is surrounded by great restaurants recommended by our michelin guide book so we can enjoy dinner with wine and have a pleasant stroll back to our room. The location is also perfect if you want to explore historical bordeaux city center on foot. There are multiple tram stations just a stone's throw away if you need to explore further parts of the city. The room is impeccably clean, very modern, and a lot more spacious than we expected. The breakfast is also very nice with freshly squeezed orange juice, delicious breads, jams, eggs, sausages, etc. It was the perfect way to start the day. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again next time we visit Bordeaux based on our experience.
I was there for a week on business. The only reason I didn't rate my experience 5-star was because my room didn't face the street, which by the way was a quiet one. The hotel was well maintained. Breakfast was good (not fancy, just adequate) and I liked the variety of baked goods and great coffee. The bed was comfortable. The air conditioning was quiet - an important factor for me in terms of countering jet lag. The location was as convenient as you could imagine - half a block away from the main drag yet it was quiet. Check it out! You'll like it.
Located in the heart of Bordeaux. Great location. Can walk to everything from here. Was able to visit the city, see the sights, choose from many restaurants and lots of shopping. All nearby. Clean. Quality breakfast included. Good rates. Totally not what you would get from a Best Western in most US cities. Much better. Would recommend.
Set in a quiet side street off the Cours de l'Intendance, this hotel was absolutely excellent. Really helpful staff, a varied and delicious breakfast that should satisfy all appetites and good rooms. No steps coming in from the street and space for disabled scooter made travelling so much easier. Seem to have two disabled friendly rooms plus a lift. Absolutely in the centre of everything and with access to all that this wonderful city offers, inc trams that disabled people can get on and off without needing help, must make it hard to beat.
Location, location, location. This hotel is right in the old city of Bordeaux. You can catch the airport bus right outside baggage claim in Bordeaux airport and take it to Place Gambetta for 1.5 euro per person. From there it is a 1/3 mile walk mainly on pedestrian streets along rue de Bonnac which when it passes under the Porte Djeaux turns into Rue de la Port Djeaux. After the arch (Porte Djeaux), you turn right and the hotel is partway down the block on your right. It is an easy, flat walk. It is also a 1.5 euro ride from the Gambetta stop on the tram B, which takes you to Chartrons, where the river cruise boats board. That stop is one street away from the hotel. The hotel has included wifi and ample breakfast. Our bathroom was very small, but clean and modern. The shower had both an overhead waterfall option or a hand held spray. Water pressure was good and hot water came quickly. The shower has only a small glass panel, so water gets on the floor. The toilet is in a separate room the size of a toilet stall. The sink/shower area is brightly lit and the center of the mirror is heated, so it does not fog. There is a large bottle of soap by the sink and a large bottle of body wash/shampoo in the shower. Our room, 108, was very quiet. The bed has 4 pillows - 2 large and 2 small. There is a safe. The hotel is. In a right where you want to be for dining, sightseeing and shopping.
Best western hotels are, in my experience, very variable. This is one of the good ones. Location fantastic, rooms really quite classy and a very good breakfast. No restaurant, but this is not an issue as there are so many places to eat nearby.
Good size rooms in a very good location in the part of town. Close to all amenities and a great base for any tourist activities. Food is good and general service very good. Staff very helpful. All in all recommended
The hotel is very welll located in the centre of Bordeaux. The breakfast buffet is decent and the staff friendly. The rooms are nice but rather small. The hotel offers what you would expect from such a hotel in the price range. Thus, I would stay at this place again.
My partner and I stayed for 3 nights at the end of December. It's a great hotel, the staff are very personable and the ambience at the hotel is just right. The room was small but extremely clean with every facility you need: tv, hairdryer, coffee maker, stocked mini fridge, and good hanging space for clothes. The shower was enormous and very clean with lots of hot water and shower gel. The breakfast was good, lots of choice; fruit, cereal, toast, yoghurt, cake, ham, cheese, scrambled eggs and small sausages. We had it delivered to our room one morning and they practically included the whole menu, awesome! Parking nearby is very economical so speak to the front desk staff about the parking at Grande Homme as they have a discount there, €44 for 3 nights parking, but please check. Overall a great location, fab staff and good value for money.
A nice and pleasant hotel in the heart of the beautifully renovated part of Bordeaux. This hotel is walking distance from pretty much anything you want to do in Bordeaux. The staff is conveniently friendly and the rooms comfortable as a best western can be in an old building.
Great location, can walk everywhere in key area of Bordeaux. Very clean room and good desk to perform work. excellent staff. Breakfast proposes a very good selection. Good size room in terms of European standards.
The hotel was recommended by the vendor we were visiting, and its location is great. It's in the city center, within walking distance of excellent restaurants, shops the National Opera of Bordeaux, and the river. The breakfast service was one of the best I had on this trip. We asked the staff about getting a taxi to get to the airport, and they did an excellent job. The taxi was ready for us at the arranged time. Definitely appreciate the attention.
We love this hotel; the building which dates back to the 18th century is close to Place Gambetta, shops, galleries and restaurants/cafes and many examples of grand Bordeaux architecture. It is very close to the tram stops and there is a laundromat about 300m away called the Laverie Ethan at 22 rue du Docteur Charles Nancel Penard. Check in by Marion was quick and friendly. Room 309 was compact in size, has a small bathroom with full size bath with overhead shower. Separate toilet room. This room has no common wall with any other room so is quiet. Window opening onto a large internal light well. The clean bathroom was compact with a full size bath and shower. No bathroom products except shower/bath gel provided. There was a flat screen TV, safe and the complimentary internet access in the room was adequate. French coffee making machine with coffee pods provided. It provides hot (but not boiling) water for making tea and instant coffee. Breakfast was basic with cereal and some fruit; hot food selection only scrambled eggs and small sausages. Cold food selection include cold meats, cheeses. A good selection of pastries and breads. This hotel had a lovely atmosphere blending classical and contemporary décor. We would definitely stay here again.
We are Canadian and this is one of the most interesting hotels we have stayed in! The building was built about 250 years ago as a French hotel (Auberge) for the growing commercial traffic. It has an open central core to provide windows and light to the interior rooms. The hotel has location. Trams run or connect within 3 blocks, the extensive St. Catharine's street for shopping starts nearby. A great restaurant area is a few blocks away towards the Gironde. The century old Bordeaux cathedral is about 6 blocks away (it has an interesting very high ceiling) and is about 50% through an exterior stone cleaning project. We booked via Expedia in mid June for three nights and where fortunate to get a front room overlooking the narrow street and could open our French doors and step out onto the narrow balcony. Our room had been recently renovated and included a new bathroom with nice rain showers. The hotel provided an extensive breakfast with many coffee, bread, jam, meat, cheese, juice and dessert options consistent with the extra charge. The front desk staff spoke excellent English and were very pleasant as they provided information or hotel assistance. The rooms and linen service were clean and the housekeeping staff would share a smile. TOURIST TIP: We enjoyed a couple of hours of wine tasting at the Bar d'Vin which was was about six bocks away and across from the tourist centre. * Please click on my profile icon to see other fall 2015 European reviews.
Location is central to many of the activities and restaurants in Bordeaux. Front desk very helpful in finding nearby restaurant for dinner. Great breakfast with, yes, chocolate chip cookies!! Parking is a ways off, but other reviews alerted us to this as it is in a restricted driving area. Small street amplifies any noise which may be bothersome to sensitive folks. (Perhaps have an extra glass of Bordeaux before bed!)
This hotel is excellently situated, in a semi-pedestrian area in the old section of town, walking distance to many sites and restaurants, with easy access to the tram and other public transportation. The staff is friendly and the service is wonderful; the breakfast offers a good mix of hot and cold items and is included. Our first night we asked for a recommendation for dinner and ended up a the Brasserie Bordelaise, a few blocks away on Rue St Remi, great food and ambiance, full of locals! Hotel wifi is good, had no issues. Parking is at the Place de Grandes Hommes a couple of blocks away, and hotel guests get a discount rate. The area is very safe and full of people at night.
This is really a B&B as there is no bar, no restaurant and very little comfortable public sitting space. The rooms are tiny and although clean, the bed making and tidying up was at best perfunctory. Coffee cups were not replaced or cleaned in our room for 3 days. The double bed was SMALL, not great if like me you're 6'3. WiFi is terrible we got at best 1mb even in the reception area . The buffet breakfast is ok, but forget the hot option unless you like your scrambled eggs dry, overcooked, cold and like gravel. The hotel is in a great location and the reception staff were very helpful.
This is a wonderful hotel where we stayed at the beginning and end of a tour we took that originated in Bordeaux. The rooms we had faced rue du Temple. which is a quiet side street between Cours de l'Intendance and rue de la Porte Dijeaux (a pedestrian paradise). The breakfast, which was included was nutritious - fresh squeezed orange juice, a variety of cheeses, croissants, scrambled eggs, sausages... The bathroom had separate toilet and bathtub/shower areas which I rather like. The location is wonderful with several great must-see historical sites within walking distance - like Place de la Bourse, Monument aux Girondins... It's a great walking area - we couldn't stop! As expected, there are a variety of restaurants and bistros right near-by. The hotel is very accessible by public transport.
The staff was so helpful. They advised us about good restaurants and gave us very good directions. Marine and Astrid were two of the staff that were wonderful in helping us. There were two others, but I have forgotten their names. The breakfast was always so delicious and there were so many selections to choose from.
Just one night before starting a tour. Friends stayed elsewhere as it was quite expensive and better deals around. A continuously run hotel since it was built. Obviously recently remodelled. Rooms very modern. Once again a room not well thought out, no room for bags or to walk around. The bathroom was large, no fan, very steamy. A tea/coffee maker which was a bonus. Bed comfortable. We were happy with breakfast whilst our friends were disappointed. Internet was one of the better ones. Check in was quick and efficient. Hotel well located and quiet. Would recommend but $$.
The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of this beautiful city. Close to trams and shopping area. Rooms are quiet and nicely decorated. The staff in the reception are fantastic! Perfect English and very service-minded.
If you want a hotel in Bordeaux near all the action and good public transport access this hotel is for you. There is a good variety of restaurant types and price ranges nearby and excellent wine bars for young and old.
The hotel is in a great location with easy access to paves in Bordeaux. The rooms were good, just ask for a larger room when you arrive. Breakfast is good although can become a bit repetitive after a few days. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
This hotel is right in the centre of Bordeaux yet manages to be extremely quiet. It is very clean, with spacious rooms and pleasant and helpful staff. Our room had a very quiet aircon system that actually worked - a rare thing in my experience - and much needed when we were there as the weather was very hot. There is an excellent buffet breakfast which is served from 6.30 to 10.30 a.m., covering the days you want to lie in and the day you need to be up and away. Our only problem was managing the strange and complex bath/shower taps. Apparently they are being gradually replaced. I would certainly stay there again.
With 35 rooms and a quiet street location in the city centre, this hotel is ideal for sightseeing or shopping. A good choice for breakfast and very attentive, knowledgeable reception staff, made our stay perfect. The rooms were spacious and ours had a balcony - we could not fault it. Apparently, it is the oldest hotel in Bordeaux and certainly oozes French character and charm.
I am usually not a great fan of the Best Western chain, but decided to go for it this time as it had a great location and the price was quite good. I am glad I did, the hotel merged the old with the modern beautifully. The rooms are nice, spacious enough and very clean. The location is superb, right in the centre but in a quiet side street. The breakfast is included, simple and plentiful at the same time. The staff is very friendly and the price very reasonable.
This is a super nice hotel right exactly in a perfect location in downtown Bordeaux. The staff was extraordinarily helpful and friendly, assisting me with a guide for this fascinating and beautiful city. My room came with their breakfast, which was excellent. They have a beautiful sitting room in the lobby area and one of the clerks assisted me in finding a quiet private place to work on my computer undisturbed after I had checked out of my room. Good Wifi throughout hotel. Good place to base yourself. My hotel room was really nice. The only issue here was the arrival with my car. Their website does not adequately provide details about arriving by car, and while my GPS found the hotel, the layout of the one way streets made this almost impossible to drive to the front door. After driving in near circles for at least 45 minutes, I was lucky to spot a different Best Western Hotel only a few blocks from this hotel. The clerk at this other BW advised me to not attempt to drive to this hotel and guided me to the Grand Hotel Francais' parking lot, which is about three blocks from the hotel. The clerk told me how to walk to GHF. I followed her instructions, problem solved! But the GHF should really provide these important details on their website. But once arriving at the hotel on foot with my luggage, the rest of my experience here was excellent.
On arrival the receptionist was not very friendly, there was no smile, no information about the wifi or the city. I had booked a double superior room and was given room 201. There was absolutely no view - it looked onto an exterior wall. There was a large disgusting red stain in the carpet next to the bed, awful. The room was rather dated but fairly clean apart from the carpet. I had difficulty figuring out how the shower worked, and had to go down to reception to ask - perhaps instructions in the bathroom would help? The bathroom, like the room, needs updating, it had a rather worn bath with a shower - but no grab rails to help climbing in and out the bath. I found the mattress very hard, and did not have a comfortable sleep. Breakfast was situated in a rather disjointed area, with a few small tables in different areas. The area where the breakfast buffet was laid was small and often crowded, and often ran out of certain food. The location was very central, which was the only plus.
Booked this hotel for an overnight stay in the middle of a holiday in Lot, based on TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed. The location is ideal for the center of Bordeaux and we were made very welcome. Breakfast provided a great choice and service was efficient and friendly. We would recommend it and will return.
The hotel is great and the staff were so helpful. I lost a bracelet down the plug hole whilst showering. The housekeeper virtually took the bathroom apart to try and find it. She did. Brilliant service. The hotel is in a great position and it was great to have facilities to make tea/ coffee in the room.
Hotel is situated directly in the centre of Bordeaux. Service at reception and at breakfast was really good. Presentation of food was complicated because of lack of free space. Cleaning of rooms should be on higher level at this type of hotel. Rooms at all are quite small. Connection to free wi-fi is little bit more complicated (special registration is needed) but was working perfectly.
The hotel is beautiful and a short walk to the center of Bordeaux - would highly recommend a stay here. Some of the rooms are being remodeled so would recommend to request a remodeled room as the older rooms need some updating. Lobby and breakfast area are very beautiful!
We spent 2 nights at this hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect for a short visit to Bordeaux and finding some great restaurants which were all within walking distance. We would stay again and recommend to others.
This hotel is very close to tram stop Gambetta. Rooms are small, to be expected in that location but they are nicely furnished and scrupulously clean. Service is superior. Breakfast is plentiful and well presented. I returned to hotel one day to find dog poop outside the front door and when I told the front desk staff one of the young ladies immediately removed it and washed down the footpath. That is someone who cares about her guests and the appearance of the hotel.
The Best Western Grand Hotel Francais in the old town of Bordeaux was the perfect location for seeing the city! The hotel is older and has an old city charm with updated bedrooms. The interior is lovely, breakfast was more than ample, and the staff was one of the most friendly and most helpful we've encountered. It was around the corner from a main shopping/eating street, close to the river, not far from the buses and light rail, easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see and to do! Our room had no view, but that wasn't a priority for this short stay, and we were seldom there anyway. You won't be disappointed!
Charming hotel with the perfect location. Friendly helpful staff that makes you feel welcome and can direct around the city. The hotel and rooms are very clean and well appointed. We liked this hotel much better than other higher rated hoteles, we will return,
We booked this hotel via the Best Western Reservations and got an excellent rate and a great room. The disabled room, as my husband is disabled on the ground floor and near the door. Lovely and large, quiet although it is on the small side road. Exceptionally clean and well made up every day. Parking was easy with our car at the nearby Grand Hommes car park and a reduced rate is available as staying at the hotel (pay early if you know how long you are staying). Staff are exceptional, breakfast is lovely, great choice, great quality and a lot are home made. Lovely freshly squeezed orange juice. Quiet and restful resteraunt. Great location and within easy distance of everything on foot. I can only say the hotel staff made everything very easy for us and I would def stay there again if in Bordeaux. Book early through the reservation centre you get a much better rate.
Excellent city centre hotel, very comfortable. Parking difficult but nearby. Need a sat nav to find if a stranger and coming by car! Good room , fine breakfast. No evening meal but many local; restaurants.
We stayed in The Grand Hotel Fracais, Bordeaux, France, on May 28th, 2014. Scores excellent plus in All categories. Centrally located in the center of old town pedestrian walking district...the place to be. Bordeaux is beautiful and the people friendly and welcoming.
We loved this charming little hotel. It is in the center of the city, easy walking to all the sites. The staff were very helpful with directions and suggestions of what to see. The room was spotless and quiet and the breakfast which was included was very good.
