This hotel is right on the lake and offers a lot to do. It is an older hotel that once was a very nice resort. It has been allowed to get run down a bit and needs some TLC to get it back up to an outstanding level that matches the location. The location makes it while the mini-golf, basketball, private beach and pool all need more cleaning and maintenance.
Booked a room on March 6, 2021 with a confirmed reservation. On June 8, 2021 the hotel manager cancelled my reservation. She stated it was a technology error. In reality I booked early for a September 17th football game and paid less for my room than some suckers did. So the manager canceled my room so she could resell it for more money to another sucker. At higher quality hotel it is "First In, First Served". At the Fourwinds it is tough luck to you sucker!!

While it is hard to believe in this day and age, the fact is a computer interface failed allowing the hotel to be overbooked. A group was booked last year. It has no priority over anyone, it simply booked first and sold out the hotel. The glitch occurred when we became a member of Best Western family of hotels. It's no ones fault, it is just growing pains as the two computer systems had complications when they began to work together. This is not an excuse, simply and explanation to what happened. It is regrettable. Fortunately, the front office team meet weekly to review our occupancy 90 days out. We are thankful, as I'm certain you are, that we found this now in June, and not in September when you were scheduled to stay. Again, on behalf of Best Western, and the entire team at the hotel, we sincerely apologize to you, and 30 others that are being affected by this software error. Respectfully
My friend and I stayed at Fourwinds for a girl's weekend. Every staff member that we came into contact with was super friendly and helpful. The service could not have been better and that is a huge positive at this hotel! The room was nicely decorated and we loved the stone wall, coffee maker, mini fridge, and oversized balcony. The view from our balcony was beautiful and relaxing. Windjammer (the on-site restaurant) was busy both nights that we visited yet the servers and manager were amazing! They worked SO hard to take care of the crowd and did so with a smile. We watched one younger server superbly handle an unhappy customer. I'm typically a good tipper but was rountiely tipping 40 to 50% because I was so impressed with the staff. I cannot give enough positive praise to the hard working servers or front desk workers! We had no plans to rent a boat since neither of us has a boating license and that was our biggest mistake. Lake Monroe is beautiful and the scenery is great. The pool area was extremely small and there were only 10 to 12 lounge chairs. The hotel no longer requires masks and serves a buffet for breakfast so COVID seems to be less of a concern; therefore, I couldn't understand the lack of chairs by the pool and in the tiny beach area. While service was impeccable, the food was average at most. There was only 1 gluten friendly option on the menu at Windjammers and the breakfast buffet in Tradewinds cost $16 yet served the same items that many hotels routinely provide in a complimentary breakfast. There is nothing within a 10 to 15 minute drive from the hotel so having an evening out or even a nice dinner that includes more than bar food is not possible without a designated driver. Many have raved about this property on Trip Advisor and I can see why, but for me personally, I will not be back. I prefer to be in a place in a better location (even hiking in the state park was a challenge due to poorly kept and even more poorly marked trails) with more food, alcohol, and activity choices. However, if choosing to rent a boat, it may be a good choice for you since the room, service, and views were wonderful!
Lots of updates, but need many more. Pool needs a deep clean for sure. Need more outside dining. Gorgeous balconies off rooms to sit and watch the lake. Might try it again not during a holiday weekend.
The resort did a great job of booking a really good band for Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. And what they did correctly stopped there. In the past, there has been a bar setup on the patio for events like this. We took our lawn chairs and our money, expecting to enjoy drinks on a beautiful evening. If you wanted any beverage, you had to go back into the hotel and wait in a huge line for the restaurant to even be let into the bar. We heard that it was taking 20 minutes to get to the bar to place an order. Very few people had drinks from the bar. After a while, word must have spread because we saw many latecomers bring in their own coolers. My husband previously managed restaurants, and we talked about the huge opportunities missed by management on this evening. They paid for a great band and then missed chances to make money off of it! P.S. There is a beautiful view behind the lower patio. Put the band down there so your guests are looking at the water and use the upper patio for food and beverage service with lawn space in between.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect on your recent visit. We in "management", as well as the entire team do hope to restore some of the amenities that we have had in the past. With COVID restrictions having only been lifted the Monday before, it will take some time to bring back what was "NORMAL" in the past. I can say that we were very happy about the huge line for the restaurant. Thanks again for your input.
This hotel is a nice place to stay at if you want to just relax and enjoy the view of the boats in the Marina and on Lake Monroe. The rooms are nice with great décor throughout the hotel. The breakfast is an egg/sausage biscuit, apple, muffin, granola bar with coffee to take back to your room. Nice balcony to enjoy your breakfast with a view of lake. The boardwalk provides a relaxing walk.
My husband and I ate at the Fourwinds Marina and had their catfish dinner and it was delicious. Carri Lockhart assisted us and was so nice. We even took our picture together. We had such a good time and would advise this restaurant to everyone, and if catfish is your thing be sure to try it. You won't be disappointed. If you are lucky enough to get Carri for your waitress be sure to tell her that Carol says HI!
Stayed for weekend w/ teen daughter & SIL. Jacob checked us in & was extremely helpful. He was able to help us with questions since we are not from the area. Room was clean. Pool was clean. Beautiful view.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide these positive comments regarding your stay. I will ensure that Jacob is recognized for his efforts. We look forward to having you back again!
on Saturday evening, my husband and children came to eat at the restaurant. We have been there many of times and have always had excellent service, but this time our service was just ridiculous. The server was Crystal and the 1st thing I noticed she look liked she was on something because of her actions. No concentration while taking our order and my 10 year old even asked me if she was okay. Then she scared my kids because she was yelling at another person that was working there as well. It took 45 minutes just to get our food, because she was too busy being chatty at the bar instead of serving my family. Out of all of the times I have been here, this made me feel like it was not a family-friendly place if all they are going to do was hire people who seem drugged up.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide the comments above regarding your recent visit to our hotel and restaurant. On behalf of the entire team, we SINCERELY apologize for the events that took place during your dinner. This is completely unacceptable and not indicative of the family atmosphere we are proud of at Fourwinds. Because of your comments, management is now aware of the situation and able to address the matter quickly. Please reach out to me directly at 812.824.2628 at your earliest convenience. I would like to personally apologize, as well as, provide a redeeming gesture. Warmest Regards, David Schaum General Manager
Room was excellent (since we could crank the temp up to 70 degrees!) and service good, but several things detracted from the ambience of the hotel/restaurant. The place was really drafty and cold. As it had several fireplaces, we had hoped for the ability to do some hanging around the fireplace on the cold weekend, but none of the fireplaces in the hotel worked! And there was apparently no effort in work to get the them fixed. The second thing that REALLY detracted from the Valentines Day stay was the restaurant hours. When I called before our trip to make reservations for the restaurant on Valentines night, i was told they were booked. When we got there, we had a great dinner on February 13th, but the restaurant was actually closed!! Very disappointing?
Favorite place to stay in the Bloomington area. Always such a wonderful experience. The resort was clean and the service was impeccable. The restaurant and lounge was great! Amazing drinks and food. Will definitely be staying here again.
Pros: Rooms were clean, staff was friendly! During peak season, probably the best place to go. Beds were really comfortable. Girls loved the pool. Since it was off season, it was very quiet and peacful. Cons: Took forever to get hot water in the shower. Took a long time to get food from the restaurant (and this was when there was no one in the place) It was winter, so it would have been great to have the fireplace going in the lobby but it was disconnected. Didn't like that if you didn't have 2 pool towels in your room when you left you would be charged $15, per towel. Due to COVID, the breakfast was a bag breakfast which contained an apple, granola bar and either a breakfast sandwhich or Eggo pancakes for the microwave. I can eat at the restaurant but they can't served breakfast there? One thing we can't explain is why and how several of our girls and myself included came out with burnt or irritated faces. The girls thought maybe the pool chemicals, but I didn't swim, but yet we all had irritation under our eyes on the day we checked out. Not sure if it was the water or maybe detergent in the towels, but something irritated our skin. Just wasn't impressed with our stay.
My husband and I came in to eat at the Marina, for a little get away. We had a lovely waitress Carri, she made the experience..perfect. Our food was excellent and so was the service. thank you Chance and Lori Langdon.
This meal was worth the trip to the lake. The moonlight overlooking the lake. Food was hot and made to perfection. Prices was very reasonable, tables was clean and Carri was running all night wiping down and keeping things clean due to covid I felt safe and enjoyed my meal tonight. We will be returning.
Our family was out for a quick hike at Fairfax SRA and decided to check out the hotel since we had never been out to see it. We decided to have a quick bite to eat after checking out the grounds. Our waitress Carri was welcoming, prompt, and even went the extra mile to wipe down the high chair we needed with disinfectant, which made us feel very comfortable with the service. For our dessert she even went and talked to the chef to ensure we got the best dessert between our options. She definitely gave us a great time, and we'll be back again.
My wife and I ate at the Windjammer restaurant. We came in later in the evening closer to closing time and there was no one else in the restaurant. Carri was our server and she did an amazing job, we continually asked if we should get dinner to go but she insisted we sit and eat. She was very tentative and gave good recommendations. Overall great experience!
Was quoted $400 for a full winterizing service on our boat. When we went to pick it up they charged me $646. No apology, no real explanation other than "That was just labor, not parts." They didn't seem to care that I was upset. Told them I would leave a negative review and obviously not come back--they didn't care. PLUS to top it all off, there was still water in the bilge area. Talk about poor service.
My husband and I were married near FourWinds last year and returned there this year to celebrate our one year anniversary. It is beautiful all around there in the Fall. The hotel is very clean and everyone is really friendly. We had a very nice waiter, Dan, at the Windjammer & TradeWinds restaurant. The hotel could use some updated mattresses and pillows, they were not very comfy at all. There's plenty of sights to see at the FourWinds property and surrounding areas. We will definitely return next fall!
When we checked in we got a room with fewer beds than expected. When we called the front dest Kayla provided a list of solutions. The one we chose was a rollaway bed. I thought other staff would bring it but at the door was Kayla with a smile within minutes of our phone conversation.
Carri was very professional and helpful she was very attentive and accommodating helped out with everything gave us whatever we needed and even was very professional when there was a rude drunk customer she has value to Fourwinds
The place was immaculate . The restaurant, had great food, and our Server Marie, was doing everything and still gave us excellent service. So good, we stayed the next day till Lunch time so we could go there.
We took advantage of their staycation special and stayed a week in this resort. Perfect timing because it wasn't crowded. We were disappointed that the pool (indoor/outdoor) was closed due to cleaning, but overall, enjoyed every bit of our stay. Although it's an older property (now it's a best western), and it shows it's date, they've done a good job of maintaining it for a good stay. There's a bit of an odor when you first come in, so maybe new carpet is in order in the common areas, but we had a clean room and absolutely loved the balcony space, overlooking beautiful Lake Monroe. Dining was a highpoint, as they have a great menu, delicious daily specials and great service. In fact, Marie was our server for half the week and she was a delight, recommending other things to do in town and providing friendly service and good drinks. Dan was our server the other part of the week and he knows his stuff! He was on top of everything with a smile (under the mask) and was fun to talk with. Overall, if you're looking for a family get-away or a romantic get-away that's close and on water, Fourwinds provides a relaxing environment with the marina, beach, park and more. The only thing missing for this time of year was an outdoor fire pit. Special thanks to the marina too, for offering a special deal on a boat rental since they weren't busy at all. It was great to be out on the lake.
First off, let me say that the service we received from Marie at the Windjammer was EXCELLENT!! She was our waitress and bartender. The drinks were great and her friendliness was superb!! The room was ok, good size and room to move. Could have been cleaner, cobwebs hanging from the lamp! I was disappointed that when we left for the day, the bed was made, but we did not get a clean liner for the ice bucket or clean glasses to use. We also did not get clean pool towels. Although, to be fair, the pool towels are so small they are pretty worthless. This is my second time here and I feel that an upgrade is needed. The patios for the rooms still do not have lighting, they didn't last year either.
We stayed here for Labor day weekend ($500), it was the biggest crazytown-show I have ever seen. The room was clean, but a sauna (wouldn't go under 80°). We had our room changed (surprising, they had an open room, right?). New room was better, but then we tried to go to the restaurant to order food... they're at 75% capacity due to Covid (understandable), however there were 3 tables taken. THREE tables out of probably 50!!!! The woman standing with us (yes, we all had masks on) had been waiting for 25+ minutes for a beer and a cocktail. Unreal! Guess what?! The hotel was apparently at 100% capacity, but even for breakfast which we tried to get the following morning, only could handle 75% which apparently to them means less than 10%... we waited an hour to actually get food. THEN... it's Monday night, after deciding that we didn't want to leave early to make the drive home, but finding different arrangements would have been a pain, we ask to get a balcony room because there is probably 10 rooms taken throughout the entire hotel. Nope, they don't have any available because of Covid. Are you kidding me?!?! They already had us switch rooms and now all of a sudden you can't accommodate this?! Not to mention at 9pm Monday on a holiday weekend they decide to close the restaurant when they clearly state that they stay open and serve food until 10pm. There are so many other things, but quite honestly I'm sick of sounding like a "Karen" so I'm going to tap out.
We enjoyed a meal in the laid back atmosphere with a great view of the lake. My husband had the catfish and fries and I had the mushroom burger and a salad. Both were good nothing spectacular but good. Vanessa was our waitress and she was very attentive and sweet. In all, we enjoyed the restaurant and especially the setting!
