"Good Stay"

I have stayed here twice recently and all in all it was a pretty good experience. It may not look great as you approach however it is quite handily placed on a fairly main road and has ample parking which is free to guests. It has a bar and a restaurant and the bar menu is good, with pasta of the week and pie of the week as well, however the restaurant menu is very limited. All of the food we ate in the bar was good and I had the pasta a number of times and not only was it good but you got a good helping also. Both times I stayed I was in the ‘town house' which is a building which is separate to the hotel and although it was fine it is possibly one of the smallest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. The staff in the bar were really friendly especially Steve and Molly and most of the staff on reception were good also, except one older lady who although not unpleasant I found rather brusque in her manner to myself and other people. All in all though a very pleasant stay and I would book again if back in the area in the future.

"Does the job"

There was a group of us with a good price of £60 for the night that was convenient for location for us, but it was the same night as a wedding party so the hotel had tried to help by putting us in the separate building of rooms so the noise wouldn't disturb us...but I think perhaps we would have been better off in the main building. The detached house, required us to go through door after door, staircase after staircase to get to the loft...only to find our room card did not work for the actual room no matter which way etc...so another trek back to reception to sort. It was indicated it seemed to be a common occurance (yes the whole "don't put the key card next to your mobile"... sadly it being the only thing in my hand should mean its not that). The room is lovely in height and size, just a small window opening which didn't provide much ventilation in a very hot room which gave us a very uncomfortable nights sleep. Also, being in the loft im guessing it had a water tank as the pressure for the taps and shower was awful, and if you wanted warm water then it literally dripped. Can't fault the décor of the bathroom...just sadly the functioning of it in that building needs sorting. You do get little soap gels, plastic cups etc. The room also had a kettle and biscuits etc. A hairdryer was found in the draw but again was of a little use for my roomie so she had to use her own which she thankfully packed. My roomie also struggled to get the tv working, I found the on/off button for the tv (As well as a button on the wall by the beds) behind the tv itself lol! Wifi was good. In the evening we used the bar and had food which was lovely. But the music playing was as if we were out clubbing. Breakfast was fine, a choice of cereals, fruits, brown/white bread, juices and a limited hot breakfast (only scrambled egg as a choice of egg). I mean considering the price, its fine...just the niggles didn't make it feel a smooth time sadly.

"Wake for a family member."

We chose this venue as we previously used it for our wedding reception and for a family birthday. We spoke with both Sharon and Christine who were extremely helpful and sympathetic to our circumstances. Having lost a parent it was reassuring to know that all we had to do was tell them numbers (approx 100) and which buffet menu was required, I provided photos and charity boxes which had all been displayed for us on the day in the Westley Suite. There was tea and coffee upon our arrival followed by the buffet which was all well presented and extremely nice. My father-in-law commented after, how perfect everything was and that's what mattered.

"Wake for a deceased Aunt"

Excellent facilities and food for a group of 25 people attending a wake following a funeral for a deceased Aunt. Staff were extremely helpful and we were provided with displays identifying each of the food items. There was also an unlimited supply of tea and coffee.

"Our amazing wedding"

We got married at the Westley on the 27 July 18. It was the most magical day! We stayed the night before the wedding & two nights after also so experienced what the rooms are like & what it's like to stay. We were given the bridal suite for the duration of our stay & it was extremely spacious. It had a large bedroom, bathroom (with bath & shower) & a separate lounging area. The size was extremely useful on the day of the wedding when there was so many people in an out getting ready! Our families also stayed and were in rooms just along the corridor or in the Annex there rooms were just as pleasant as ours. Smaller & less grand but pleasant. The hotel/ bar staff were absolutely fantastic throughout the build up, day of & aftermath of our wedding. A special mention to Christine who was our wedding coordinator & worked tirelessly in the build up & on the day!! At the end of July the weather was unbearably hot & the rooms were absolutely scorching! The hotel did provide fans but this really wasn't enough. From morning till night on my wedding day I was uncomfortably hot which was unfortunate. It would be nice if the hotel had aircon in the rooms aswel as the public areas it was really needed the day of the wedding. The majority of our guests enjoyed their food but some not so much. We found ours to be nice however the vegetables & roast stuffing did seem alittle hard. The service throughout our wedding day & stay overall was outstanding. The staff are so welcoming and friendly!! One little issue I had was the night security guy coming into my room on the eve of the wedding!! He said it was a mistake & apologised but I was spooked. I couldn't understand why or how he entered my room I did discuss this with Christine on the morning of my wedding & she was going to look into it. There were a few little things I wasn't overly happy with such as, the ceiling not being fixed in the Westley suite (as promised for 10 months), there being no curtains on the 8+ windows & the big red room dividers that were at the back of the room during my ceremony & meal which look rubbish on the dvd but overall we had a lovely day & felt like the staff worked really hard to make it special for us.

"Friendly staff"

Stayed for one night. Room was spacious, clean with a modern bathroom. Receptionist on arrival was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good and the young man that served us was again really friendly and very efficient. Have stayed in many hotels and this has got to be the friendliest we have ever stayed ar. Management team should be very proud of your staff. Only downside was you didn't have a spare brolly in reception that I needed to borrow and got absolutely soaked walking into town!

"Funeral Gathering and Accommodation"

We booked the Westley Suite for a family funeral gathering. The room was set out perfectly and when we arrived although earlier than expected the staff were ready to greet us and offer tea and coffee, which was most welcoming. The food was excellent and again ready before the time we requested and staff on hand to assist all the guests. Three relatives also stayed overnight at the hotel and found the rooms excellent staff really helpful and breakfast was superb.

Going by th photos on line I was a bit disappointed in the room. Firstly you had to leave the hotel as our room was in the town house next door and as I was with my foster child I didn't feel safe. The bathroom was very old fashioned. No safe no air conditioning you got a fan though.

"Wedding ceremony and reception"

I had my wedding here back in June. Christine my wedding co-ordinator was just fantastic. We sat down went over what was expected and what I wanted. She changed things at last minute to make my day special. Christine and all her staff just did a superb job. I didn't have to worry about a thing which helped with wedding day nerves. "Lovely room in 'the Townhouse'"

Excellent location near to main transport routes into central Birmingham or the NEC, Stratford on Avon, Birmingham Airport and Edgbaston cricket ground. Highly professional and very friendly staff (Andrea on reception very welcoming); lovely room in 'the Townhouse' annexe with nicely decorated shower room. The room, shower room and communal areas were clean and well-presented. The cooked breakfast was a great way to start the day. The hotel is Highly recommended

"Appalling Restaurant Performance "

Stayed here on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis as part of a group of around 30 people. After ordering at the bar as they requested, we all went to the restaurant for the food to arrive. There was a total lack of organisation by the hotel, they totally lost track of what was ordered, and were clearly overwhelmed by trying to prepare food for 30+ people. Some meals came out within 15 minutes or so, but the longest still hadn't arrived some 2 hours later. Some people got their main courses before their starters, and chose just to give up on the starters. Although the meals were ordered against room numbers, this information clearly got lost in the system, with the waiting staff carrying food to and from the kitchen in search of the correct customer. The quality of some of the meals was also very poor, the gammon meals which arrived late on were almost inedible. They abandoned any pretence of knowing what deserts had been ordered, and eventually retook the orders at the tables. The staff delivering the food remained polite and tried to help throughout, but clearly the hotel system was not up to the task. Without a major overhaul of their system, not a venue suitable for a reasonable sized dinner group.

"Wonderful experience all through our stay"

We stayed at this hotel because we had business meeting the next day in city centre. When I booked the hotel I wasn't expecting much but what a surprise. From the start I was welcomed from a young lady at reception, smooth check in with no issue at all. Our room was beautifully clean and very comfy bed. The evening meal was brilliant and the service in restaurant was like 5 star service, the staff were very friendly and very polite and they know exactly what they are doing. The wait on the food was within 20 minutes. I had the Steak and my wife had the risotto,we are both little picky on our food but that was just spot on. The breakfast was great and the little touches from the breakfast staff such as asking if we had good night sleep and if is anything they can do for us was just what you want for start of a great day. We were told that the place is under new management and good for them, they have created fantastic atmosphere in that place. Well done all and thank you for looking after us. We will definitely come to stay again and would recommend it to all our friends.

"Wedding ceremony and reception venue"

Absolutely fantastic experience. Made you feel like royalty from the moment we arrived. Worked with Christine while planning the wedding and nothing was too much trouble. She went the extra mile in everything she did for us. The staff at the hotel were brilliant, so polite and friendly. The food for the wedding was sensational, and the breakfast the following morning was just as amazing. We are planning to go back next year for our anniversary. My dad is celebrating his 70th birthday next year, and adored the place and people so much that he wants to spend his birthday at the hotel. Would very highly recommend this place to anyone. They made our very special day EXTRA special! Great job guys - very pleased customer, Thank you.

"Terrible evening meal"

We stayed here for 2 evenings on the groupon offer , we had 3 course evening meal on first evening , we arrived at the restaurant at 6.45 bearing in mind there was one other couple in the restaurant , we orred what we wanted and eventually got our starter 50 mins later , then the wait was on for the main .... we were told 6 times that it was on its way ... 1 hour 20 mind later it arrived . All the staff kept saying was that it was a busy evening and they didn't anticipate it being so busy ! All I can say is I'd hate to see it busy !!! Hopefully your not hungry!!!

Had a great dinner here with my husband. Very friendly staff and the food was okay. We both had the chicken supreme as mains, garlic prawns as starters and dessert was the strawberry Eton mess and panna cotta. The portions were quite generous too.

"Good value, friendly service"

Me and my girlfriend stayed in this hotel for a trip to the NEC. We arrived just after 11pm and the night porter was lovely and very helpful. The room was very clean and quiet, there was a wedding going on while we stayed and we couldn't hear a thing. Breakfast was delicious and the staff very friendly and helpful asking if we wanted anything to be made we could just ask. They even supplied us with extra milk for our room so we could have more tea. Overall a lovely experience I would stay again.

"My 50th"

Service was ok, food was unfortunately not great. I had Salmon, it was my 50th birthday so was relaxed and the salmon was good, everyone who had the roast was disappointed unfortunately. I tasted the roast beef from the carvery and if I'm honest tasted like shoe leather. It's a shame as the guys serving were good and the room was fine. Need to do better guys.

Me, my fiancèe and family came to here to try the new menu and wasn't disappointed we went for two French dip stake sandwich with chips and onion rings was very filling if your in a group a whole will feed two easily, The food arrived very fast and the staff were very friendly we would defiantly recommend eatting here...

"Bar Very Male dominant"

A colleague and i stayed here on business. I found it difficult to find and so many doors it is a little confusing! Plenty of car parking. Room clean and quiet and had a comfortable nights sleep. Bar is obviously the local in the area and very male dominant which did make my female colleague and i a little out numbered. We had a bar meal from the limited menu, but what we had tasted ok. we then retired early. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Not sure if it would be my first choice if back in area but definitely not the worst

Found this hotel easily enough on the outskirts of Birmingham. I had phoned the evening before to pre pay the hotel and the receptionist was friendly and very pleasant. Arrived at hotel, ample car parking space which upon entering the reception you are requested to enter your Reg Number into an I-pad which enables you to park free of charge. Check-in again was very pleasant and welcoming, provided with information such as wifi code, breakfast times together with room, bar and restaurant locations. Room was 'up in the room' which was nice, quiet and out the way. Also, safe as it had its own fire exit. Room was comfortable and a reasonable size, like I say nice and quiet. Breakfast was great, nice and hot. Check-out very quick and efficient. All the staff I encountered were very friendly and helpful.

"Overnight stay - great sleep"

Stayed here the night before Crufts as the hotels in the NEC wanted over £200 per night, easy check in, and check out (even at 5.30am) Lovely room with comfortable bed and lots of places to eat nearby

"Who really is the custome?"

Food has definitely plummeted in quality. Had fish and chips this week and was pretty poor. Also had a crowd in to watch football and asked to put volume up for champions league final and told volume couldn't be increased. Who is the customer? The staff or the paying punters?

Parking charges have suddenly been enforced and I have been faced with a £60 fine. The Hotel didn't respond to my request to have this waivered so good luck to anyone else visiting here! I think it is appalling to treat loyal customers in this way.

We struck lucky here! We were visiting Birmingham to see a show at the Genting Arena, with our 2 daughters, and we wanted some where not to far from the venue. On our arrival we were greeted by Andrea on reception, she was so polite and courteous and explained all about the hotel and rooms, great customer service. Even though we were earlier than the check in time there was no problem. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well presented, the bathroom was also clean and well presented, the shower was excellent too. Before departing for the arena we needed to print our arena parking coupon, this was also no trouble for Andrea and the young chap at reception, they found a way to help us out. We all had a good nights sleep in our rooms, There was a party going on in the function suite complete with disco. however this had minimal impact on our stay. We had paid for room only but were offered breakfast which we took advantage of at an extra charge. If there was an area for improvement maybe breakfast would be it, couldn't fault the service of the young lady who was running the breakfast room. However we did feel that the English breakfast was not the hotest that it could of been. There was a good selection of cereals, toast, yoghurts and fruit. We really could not say enough about the staff in this hotel, they were fantastic and went above and beyond for us as customers. We would have absolutely no issue staying here again, on a return trip to Birmingham. Well done Westley Hotel, hope to see you another time.

"Staff make a hotel"

31 of us travelled from Ireland for a game and stayed with the best westbury . What a great hotel the staff really have to be commended on how helpful and accommodating they were. we arrived at 10.30 to be created by lovely Lucy who was looking at 30 men looking for a bed and food she organised everyone got keys sorted and the brilliant Chef out done himself with a lovely homemade lasagne, Chips and salad no hanging around. Kieran was kind enough to ring us even when he was not on duty to see we got our taxi and the lovely James was on hand to help out at all times. I truly have to say the staff in this hotel are outstanding sorry I missed names from the lady that help me on Saturday to fill bottles of ice to the wee girl that servied in the restaurant . The hotel is not what you would call modern but extremely clean great showers all you needs on site from great food to good beer. Will definitely be back soon but this time without all the hurlers .Thank you again for everything .

"The bar has been well and truly raised"

What a fantastic night...we've had some great nights with you over the years but Saturday was at another level. the food was AMAZING. incomparable to last time. Very high standard, restaurant quality, beautiful, well presented and delicious. so many people commented on the quality of it. AND The bar staff were fantastic, really attentive, friendly and fast. The guy even came over to introduce himself to me at the beginning of the night. I've never seen that before anywhere and it was fantastic. honestly, not that it wasn't good before but it was outstanding on Saturday. thank you.

"Great value deal from Groupon...needs a few tweaks"

Great value deal from Groupon, fantastic room 9, apart from a broken lamp bulb ! Fantastic staff, young male manager was exceptional and made a massive difference to stay, but kitchen staff appeared to have tarnished tiaras ! Was told that restaurant wasn't available due to party, no party happened and would have preferred to sit in restaurant away from football. Good breakfast, but most of warm food wasn't that warm, veggie options not great, veggie sausages would have been nice. Had to wait for 'special' Groupon dinner menu, thai fishcake starters were rubbish, rest of meal was fine and option to choose main from bar menu made a difference - thank you. Was a great value stay, room was brilliant, couple of minor niggles, would come back and would be great to see even better service next time.

"Very friendly and clean hotel"

Just come back from our one night stay at the Westley Hotel. Lovely friendly helpful staff who couldn't do enough for you. We had two rooms in the main hotel and others we were travelling with were in the other part of the hotel. Our rooms were very clean and seemed very new and updated very nice comfy bed, no air conditioning but a fan was in the room. The others in the part of the hotel across the road were also happy with their room. We ate in the bar in the evening and the food was very nice and not over priced, bar was busy and seemed very friendly, we will be back next time we visit our family in Solihull. If I could find any fault .. We would have liked two packs of biscuits on our tea tray! :-)

"ok for a night"

I'd requested 2 rooms together so we were put in the house next door. We were given 2 rooms on different floors which wasn't what we wanted as we had children. The room was pleasant and clean but noisy with other guests running up and down stairs and slamming doors til 3 in the morning. We ate in the bar and the food was really good. It wasn't ideal for a family as there were a lot of blokes in there watching football, shouting and swearing. Breakfast was a let down as there wasn't any hot food available. We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the NEC but wouldn't stay here again.

"First visit"

We arrived here in the late evening and was greeted at reception by a nice lady who checked us in and told us where our room was . Unfortunately this was where the pleasantries stopped , we had to go out of the hotel and into a building next door . In the road we were greeted by a rat that ran across the road . On entering the room it was how estate agents say " cosy " as this was only a one night stop for our flight the next day it was just somewhere to lay our heads . Although the standard of cleanliness was ver good . However the shower water pressure was poor . This is just an average hotel with a large car park which is handy for the airport. Would i stay again , no . Probably pay a bit more and go to the various on airport hotels .

Recently stayed with my girlfriend visiting Birmingham to go to the Comic-Con at NEC. Staff were super friendly, room was very nice and price was good. Decided to stay for Sunday lunch and it was very nice.. loved the mushroom starter.

"Fantastic stay and hospitality"

Lovely stay at the Westley. Hotel was clean and tidy and staff were wonderful and welcoming. The breakfast was exceptional with traditional Irish Sausage and Back Bacon. The scrambled eggs were creamy and delicious. For a buffet breakfast the standard really was outstanding.

"Overnight visit "

I stayed at this hotel for a night with my disabled friend who is in a wheelchair. We arrived at about 7 in the evening obviously tired from our travel. We waited for a while at the reception as they were dealing with a double or mixed booking. Then we found that my friend in her nineties had a room on the first floor with no lift , . (We had booked months ago, so no need for this.) the trauma of getting her out of her wheelchair and getting up the stairs was horrendous, we did however got a meal in the room. We had to leave the wheelchair at the bottom of the stairs and was assured by the staff they would take it and put it in a safe place for us. However it was still in the same place at the bottom of the stairs in the morning. Getting my friend downstairs was a nightmare but there was no option. The rooms were clean and comfortable, no complaints with that, but we ended up leaving the hotel in a distressed state instead of at ease. I would not recommend this hotel if you are disabled. But other than that very pleasant.

Had a great day here watching the rugby & football, the screens are perfect for getting stuck in for the day and having a few Guinness with mates. Also special mentions to the Chef, the food was great too. 10/10 would come again

"Take your Marrigolds, a steam cleaner and some bleach"

Although the food was great, I'm not sure I'd ever have sat down to eat there if I had checked into my room first. For want of a disposable shower cap or a hairdryer (none present in room 84), I chose to bathe rather than get my hair wet on the Saturday Morning of Crufts, 2018. This left me eye-level with the most disgustingly filthy shower screen I've ever been unfortunate enough to encounter and bearing in mind I spent two years in the early 90's in Polo, looking after Argentinian Polo Grooms that speaks volumes. I asked the hotel to do something about it while we were at Crufts on Saturday, but alas, this plea fell on deaf ears. In fact, even though I left a handwritten letter to the housekeeping staff on the Sunday morning politely declining to leave a tip for the staff as the room was disgusting, I failed to hear from the hotel. I sent them photographs of the offending shower screen, window sills, skirting boards and behind the radiators today at 8.30am and have been asked to forward these to yet another email address, without a word of apology. In summary, it's abundantly clear that this hotel's staff doesn't care about you or your health. If the rooms that you CAN see are in this condition I can only guess what lurks in the ones that you can't (like the kitchen).

"Extremely angry and let down"

We attended Cruft last weekend. And booked 6 weeks previously through Expedia Staying that there would be two adults and one well behaved dog. This was agreed and payment was made. On Saturday evening after a long day at the NEC. We booked into the above hotel and where show. To our room. Our dog was present at this time and the receptionist didn't mention anything at the time. After spending a good hour in our room, we unpacked and was preparing to go down and eat in the hotel resteraunt. There was a knock on the door and the assistant ,snagged I formed us that we had to leave as we had a dog and there was a no dog policy at the hotel. We were shocked to hear this as when we booked a dog was accepted. We refused to do this until the hotel found us another hotel and would refund our money. This agreed to do, we went down to eat our evening meal and again management came to our table to see if we were going. They had not found another hotel, they wanted us to find one ourselves. We did good another hotel, however we had to pay upfront and the hotel was more expensive. The hotel then I formed is that they could not refund the money we had already paid. And we had to claim from the booking company. We feluctlanty left the hotel, and found the new hotel which was in the centre of Birmingham by this time it was midnight. I have a disability which makes it difficult for me to walk. I was very tired and in a lot of pain. And we were out of pocket by £250. At no time did the hotel show any compassion or remorse for their actions. And at one point threatened us with the police if we protested. I am going to the press and the small claims court raged if this matter.

I always come back when in the area because you get a warm welcome clean warm and bright room along with very happy welcoming staff. Can never fault the service parking is on site. Sport channels available along with a restaurant on site. ...... you will find it hard to find anything of this high standard near by.

"Sunday carvery"

Visited today with my partner around 4pm for a drink and some dinner, for the Sunday carvery. Had a drink in the bar which had a lovely atmosphere - relaxing music and had the TV on. Went through to the beautifully laid restaurant for the carvery and it was probably hands-down the yummiest carvery I've had! Nice hot fresh food and loads to choose from. Was pretty full after that but still went for desserts - I had the lemon tart and my partner the crumble. Both were incredible! The service from the staff was nothing but friendly and polite. Thank you to Michael, who served our table - he was brilliant and gave an outstanding service! You can tell these people really enjoy their work and what they do. Will definitely be returning again, well done guys! :)

We had a function in the main room it was beautifully done and decorated just how we wanted. The food was delicious and they was so much to go round there was no danger of running out. The staff could not do enough were so friendly so if you're having a party or celebration I can not recommend this place enough!

"Wedding hospitality - second to none!"

We recently got married and advised all our family and friends to stay at the Westley Arms hotel for our wedding party due to it's proximity of our wedding. I have to say that Kieran McInerney (Hotel Manager) and his staff were absolutely fabulous. Emma Moran on reception took care of every individual booking and assured every request was met. Guests from Ireland, USA and the UK were totally impressed by the fantastic service given by all. Friendly reception on arrival, early breakfasts, late breakfast, very late breakfasts, early check ins, late checkouts were all taken care of where possible. I have in previous years used this hotel for business accommodation for an event I run as it is close to the venue but I have never received the fantastic service we received in January which made our wedding weekend celebrations very special. I can only assume that this is due to the relatively new Manager Keiran McInerney - I cannot fault any of the service given by Keiran and his staff - Thank you so much - Patricia & Bertie .

Popped in for a quick lunch and a beer, was greeted at the bar with a lovely welcome and told all about the new menu I have to say it looks fantastic. I settled on The Westly Club Sandwich which no doubt was best sandwich I have had in a long time. It had 3 size servings I had the single and served on a massive ciabatta bread roll really wish I took a photo because telling you about it don't do it justice. Also had a pint of amstel which is always my choice of beer and was a great pint. Can't fault the place will defiantly be coming back for dinner with the girlfriend and friends!

The Westley is located about two minutes walk from Acocks Green centre.We had a lovely room in the Georgian house next door. It was spotlessly clean and very spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay there again on a return trip.

As a family we love a carvery & Best Western Westley did not disappoint. There were a variety of delicious meats & lots of enjoyable vegetables to choose from. My family & I throughly enjoyed & we have already booked again for my Nan's 70th next month! Staff were friendly & attentive & I could not fault the service. Would highly recommend!

Visited the Hotel this weekend and I must say from start to finish the hotel staff could not have done enough for us. Would certainly recommend this hotel to others. The food we received for our evening meal was excellent and certainly filled the spot. The breakfast the next morning did not disappoint either. All in all a great experience.

We visited the hotel in October to celebrate my dads birthday. Upon arrival, the staff were all super friendly and quickly seated us at a table. There were 14 of us in total including two toddlers. We all had the carvery which did not disappoint. The food itself is pretty good and the choice of veg and meat on offer means that there really is something for everyone. The meat was tender and the vegetables were very tasty. We will definitely be visiting again.

We recently visited the hotel with family and were slightly apprehensive having never been out for lunch on Christmas Day! However there was no need to be; it was better than being at home! We were greeted by friendly staff who were in good spirits and very attentive throughout lunch. Considering the amount of people dining at the time we expected a long wait but our party of 15 all received their food quickly and with all amendments to the order correct (we're a difficult bunch!) The food was good and the carvery in particular was delicious and a great way to do Christmas lunch! We have already made enquiries about coming next year and will recommend to friends! Thanks in particular to the staff there for making nothing seem like too much to ask for and taking the hassle out of cooking for Christmas!

I can't comment on the hotel itself as we never visited. However, one of the main selling points of this hotel was the opportunity to cancel within specified time period for free on booking.com. However, upon returning from our stay at a separate hotel (which was cheaper- hence reason for cancellation) I found that I had been charged £120 for a one night stay that I had cancelled for free a couple of weeks earlier. After checking on booking.com that I had cancelled for free (which I had) I gave the hotel a ring to ask for a refund as advised by booking.com. The lady informed me that she was unable to process refunds herself and asked for my contact number for her manager to ring me back the following day. I received no phone call at all. A few days later, after already being short of £120 in the run up to Christmas and beginning to need the money I gave the hotel another ring. I was spoken to by a different, very rude lady this time who informed me "I have already spoken to you about this and I told you to send me a picture of your bank statement which you haven't done so how am I supposed to see if you have been charged or not." I have neither spoken to this lady before nor been informed to send a copy of my bank statement. Surely the hotel should be able to check who they have wrongly billed? I am starting to think that I will never see this money again. If you are thinking of booking under free cancellation DO NOT. This hotel needs to learn some customer service.

Stayed on the 1/12/17. We had 2 rooms. We arrived with our luggage and found we had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to our room. Walked through corridors that looked like we were in a residential home. very dated and old decor throughout the corridors. Finally got to our rooms and they were not bad but the beds are awful!!! 25&26.. all beds extremely small and rock hard!! Not one of us had a good sleep. We went down to the bar to get some food after traveling from wales and it was horrendous!! Bar staff rude and the lady slurping coffee as we order our food. I ordered the Thai curry and I've never been served food like it. Swimming in oil and no taste apart from the oil. Rock solid prawn crackers from a packet. Hard undercooked rice! The onion rings were un edible and we left 2 portions on the table. The others Ordered hunters chicken and it came out dry and disgusting! All 4 dishes wasted and 2 sides! Ordered a taxi at reception. it collected us and dropped us off 1 mile away from the venue we needed to be at and had to walk in heels and we're almost late. I understand this is not your fault as a hotel but the company you use should be dropped as other guests were complaining too. The bathrooms are very dated along with the rest of the hotel. The receptionist was lovely! That the only reason I'm giving you 2 stars.

Positives: free parking, clean, nice bathroom, nice selection of in room beverages and biscuits, good location for the NEC Negatives: some areas of the hotel are in need of a refurb, member of staff who checked us in was rather rude, the mattress was incredibly uncomfortable with big lumps in it, very creaky floorboards. Overall, ok for a one night stop over though wouldn't want to stay much longer. Didn't have the breakfast so can't comment.

Rooms were nothing to write home about very average but comfortable which is the main thing. Be warned though Best Western hotels are supposed to give you free breakfast but this one does only if you book through Best Western website. If you book through third party like I did through hard earned points on my Credit Card it's not free. The hotel is not far from most things but you have to drive or get a taxi. Great Fish and Chips at their pub on site. Great carvery as well.

I like Best Western hotels and was pleased with the the Westley. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel which takes you right into the centre of Birmingham so it was easier to leave the car in the hotel car park instead of finding central city parking. There is also a railway station not far away. The room was very good and comfortable although the walls were thin so it was quite noisy when some guests moved around late at night. Breakfast was a delight, buffet style with friendly and helpful staff on hand.

We have just spent 1 night here as part of a wedding party. From start to finish the whole experience was fantastic. The room which we stayed in was comfortable, spacious and had a brilliant bed. Breakfast was buffet style with the choice of cereal, fruit juice, fruit, toast and full cooked items. Very tasty. The staff here are all brilliant and always had time to have a chat to ask if everything was ok and they always had a smile on their face. There was one member of staff who deserves a special mention, Paula,who went above and beyond to make you feel so welcome. Thanks Paula. Would definitely recommend this hotel as a wedding venue.

"Excellent carvery"

Have been here a couple of times for Sunday lunch in the past couple of years for a large family celebration. The staff were friendly, the service was good and the carvery was excellent. Very generous sized portions of meat and an excellent selection of vegetables, all perfectly cooked. The starters and deserts were delicious too. Highly recommended, specially for a large party.

Nice hotel with lovely decorated rooms which are very clean and tidy. Great firm beds and lovely linen. Nice bar and restaurant with a good selection of reasonably priced food. Very good sized safe car park. Would recommend for business or pleasure.

"Terrible Customer Service"

I booked this hotel through my company's travel provider, never got to stay there due to a family member passing away and I needed to return home. Usual process followed in cancelling the room so as to free up space and negate a charge only to be told via the booking service that the hotel was very unhelpful and would not accept the reasons so would still charge. Why am I writing this, well after dealing with so many poor attitudes to customer service this day Best Western took the biscuit. Accept I was not out of pocket but my company was, that aside the dismissive attitude was poor, I will not be using Best Western in future and I travel a fair bit

"My Brothers Wedding"

Stayed here for one night for my brothers wedding. Check in was great the receptionist was very friendly and helpful with an early check in. The room was very clean and spacious with a really lovely bathroom which had good quality fittings. Breakfast the next morning was good, buffet style with good quality items. Would definitely recommend this place. Was pleasantly surprised for the price we paid.

The Westley hotel is a good hotel, I booked 5 rooms for a family gathering, reception staff were very accommodating and friendly, fast check in. Rooms were of a good size, nicely & modernly decorated and had good amenities. Breakfast was buffet and very good. Thank you Westley Hotel

Was not expecting to find such a lovely hotel for the money.Great start with a lovely receptionist,very helpful and friendly.lovely room much larger than expected with very clean bathroom.Good touch was a switch by bed to turn off TV so no red light all night on standby.Some noise from a pump or compressor but stopped when bar closed so not a problem to us.Bar prices surprisingly reasonable and again quick efficient and friendly service which makes a break really enjoyable.Good breakfast again with a friendly restaurant manager who organised fried eggs to order.Good off road parking although only one disabled space which was occupied by a DJ's van causing us to park further away than we would have liked but ramped access was useful.Only downside was shower head had mildew on,could do with a good bleaching but all in all excellent value and would certainly go back.Staff are an absolute credit and deserve a commendation.

Stayed here nye checking in was terrible the woman who checked us in was rude asked to speak to a manager who was just as rude not sympathetic at all used to stay once a month here they have lost a loyal customer.

Spent two calm and peaceful nights (a Sunday and Monday night at this hotel. I enjoyed my stay. Rooms and amenities are very clean, nicely kept, heating was adequate (outside temp was 6 degrees Celsius on day 1 of my visit), there was not that dump room smell you get at times from hotel rooms carpet during cold wet season. They have a nicely kept restaurant where you can get a decent meal also have a bar where you can get quick meals, like a burger. My friend's wedding was scheduled to happen at the same hotel, they do have a nice event hall. Me being a foodie, I totally enjoyed their food, in the restaurant (they had a delicious Sunday carvery), had a super delicious burger from the bar and at the wedding event they served us a delicious meal. The team at the hotel is dynamic, friendly and were always ready to help. I would recommend this place for someone who's traveling on business and for a short stay.

Although I only stayed at the Westley Hotel for 1 night this week, it was very clear this is a real gem of a find. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and my room was spacious and very clean. Although I found the menu a bit limited in the restaurant, the food was good ... but the highlight was the breakfast, a great selection and all freshly cooked even though I was one of the last people before closing. Unlike many hotel bars including larger chains, the bar was quite busy and had a good atmosphere, quiet areas as well as TV showing live sport ..... but most importantly, top bar staff. My only small niggle would be the fact that some of the doors in the corridors upstairs tend to be bit noisy overnight when opened and closed ( but I guess it is an old building etc ) I will definitely be visiting the area again on a regular basis, and look forward to staying again. Visited this lovely and friendly hotel on the Easter weekend,So happy for making the right choice. Clean and comfortable,extremely helpful staff! Have no words for all of you people. I stayed overnight at the Westley as I was conducting a training seminar the next day in the conservatory. There is a spacious car park with free parking, close to lots of amenities which was also a bonus. From the minute I arrived the staff couldn't be more helpful. My room was a good size, clean, comfortable and very quiet with toiletries provided and good free wifi connection which enabled me to work with no problems. I ate dinner in the bar as it was late and the restaurant was closed but the food was good and very reasonably priced. Service was good too. My single bed, although small, was very comfortable and I slept really well with no noise disturbance, I woke feeling refreshed. Breakfast in the morning was great, all the food was freshly cooked, well presented and the staff were friendly, cheerful and chatty making a single female traveller feel very welcome. The conference room was laid out well with all the facilities as promised. The staff really were exceptionally accommodating, providing help at the drop of a hat. My thanks to Christine for helping with the booking, Lucy for all her help with seminar, Kathy for making me feel so welcome at breakfast and Andy for carrying my extremely heavy product case from the car to the conservatory room. I will definitely be staying at the hotel again when I am next in the area. Fantastic hotel with amazing staff. My one criticism, which didn't really affect me personally, is the lack of a lift. There is only one flight of stairs to the bedrooms so not much of an problem but if you are infirm or have difficulty with stairs it may be an issue. I had to make several trips back and forth to the car as had lots of luggage for the training seminar so the exercise did me good but it was a lot of walking up and down stairs and opening fire doors wasn't easy with my hands full.

"reasonably priced great hotel"

After attempting to find a good reasonably priced hotel close to Birmingham Centre for attending a family party and failing miserably, booked and then cancelled 6 Hotels along the Hagley Road after reading reviews and seeing photos on tripadvisor I was losing hope, then I found The Westley Hotel, great price for 2 rooms £128 (breakfast extra) but reviews were good, We were not disappointed, CLEAN Comfortable Rooms (and we are VERY fussy) Good shower and plenty of good towels and toiletries. Very accommodating staff they even rang me to assure that we would have 2 rooms close, in the annexe, on arrival a pleasant welcome and we had a good nights sleep, large car park plenty of room, Buffet Breakfast was plentiful, hot and filling as much as we liked. All in all a very good hotel 10 mins drive to centre will definitely use again when visiting the area and family. TIP: booked your breakfast when Checking In Hotel its £8.95 if booked online with room OR when you go for breakfast in the morning its £12.95.

Large car park to the rear, Sky sport, quiz night, Restaurant which I've never used has I like to have a walk and try local restaurants. Bar food. Staff welcoming, like I said stayed a number of time and find the standards high, would like to see the breakfast served earlier but you have no change with the lady of the key!! 7:00am before she opens the door ......

Here on business trip. Staff welcoming on arrival. All rooms seem to be upstairs so take offer of carrying bags when offered. Room clean and warm. Bed comfortable. Food both in restaurant and bar very nice. Seems that there is bigger selection in bar. Can recommend the tapas dishes. Overall nice say and would probably come back if in area again.

I stayed at the Westley Hotel last night as I had an early meeting this morning. It was great value for money. The room was larger than I expected and very quiet. I usually wake numerous times as I am a light sleeper and doors opening and closing wake me. I didn't wake up once! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I booked a discount rate which may have affected my room allocation. I was placed in the "Annexe" (the house next door to the hotel) which meant a climb up narrow stairs with my briefcase and suitcase but was very peaceful. I was undisturbed by noise from the street or other rooms and slept well. The promised internet connection was not available but apart from that no complaints. The room was clean and well presented, the bathroom large and the bed comfortable.

We had 2 rooms to visit my daughter at the University of Birmingham. It was about 20 minutes to the university and in a nice quiet street. Both rooms a double and a single were very nice with lovely bathrooms. The buffet breakfast was also really good. Very friendly helpful staff. Plenty of parking at the rear of the hotel which is a real plus point. I rang the hotel direct and got the rooms cheaper than booking online. For the price this hotel is a real bargain. We would definitely stay here again.

"Beware of the Annex!"

We were put in the Annex, directly next to the main part of the hotel, which is an old Victorian style house. This meant creaky floorboards and thin walls, so when the couple in the room above us had fun and games we all got to hear about it. Also, in the Annex the bathrooms look tired and the shower is weak, even by English standards (not what I expect from a BW). The room itself was large and the bed comfy, but I'd recommend staying in the main building.

Driving up to the hotel I wasnt sure what to expect but once inside the Hotel was excellent. Both room and shared areas were spotless and staff very friendly. Internet was good. Only thing it was missing was a gym / fitness room. Would definitely use again.

Stayed here due to an event at the NEC for 1 night. Check in/out was very quick! The room was good as well, good carpets and nice bed. The location is great and up the road from the high street which has everything you need. Plenty of parking in the car park as well. I would love to give a better review of this place but one thing that killed my stay here is the fact I woke up a few times in the middle of the night, twice because of the door closing and once because of a kid crying, the kid was crying for a little while. I never ever complain about noise levels at any hotel I go to because I am a deep sleeper and sleep through most things but the noise that night was a bit too much, I guess I could feel the door shut every time which may have been waking me up. The staff there were great! I never brought up the noise levels to them, not much they can do after the night I guess. If they are able to resolve the noise level issue in the building I would definitely stay there again!

I recently got married at the Westley hotel, and Christine was fantastic, helping with all the preparations and accommodating last minute changes to table plans. I stayed in the hotel overnight and it was so comfortable and quiet, despite the hotel being full. Breakfat was very tasty. The day itself was lovely. The staff lit all my candles beforehand and were very attentive all day. Butft food especially was lovely. All the staff are friendly and helpful, and created a wonderful day of memories. Thank you.

Nice hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. Rooms clean with good amenities. Good breakfast. If you need a taxi ask reception to book it they get fantastic fixed rates to lots of destinations eg airport, NEC, Birmingham city centre. Public areas need a carpets and upholstery cleaning but don't let this put you off the rooms seem fine.

A warm and friendly welcome greeted us at reception and everything we needed to know was fully explained. Our room was modern, clean and spacious and contained everything that we'd need for our overnight stay. Breakfast was a tasty affair with the !all you can eat' breakfast providing us with so much choice it was hard to choose! All the food was cooked beautufully and frequently topped up. Overall, it was a lovely stay and we will definitely be back!

Stayed at the Westley hotel has we stayed for a wedding. It was a comfortable stay in the hotel. The room was very clean as was the bathroom. The bed was just a bit uncomfortable but that was the only bad point. The breakfast was alright the following morning with a reasonable selection. Friendly staff throughout.

Have stayed here a number of times and the place never changes , good stand of rooms at a decent price. Football on the the bar with free parking to the rear. They do own the building next door which means you have to cross from the building to another,not nice on a rainy day

"One slight annoyance "

Booked this hotel very last minute due to business - £39 was cheap for a last minute booking especially with free parking which is rare for hotels that we searched for. Upon arrival the hotel was nice, we were offered a newspaper for the morning. If there's one small thing that was annoying it was that this newspaper was made out to be complementary, however upon checking out we were charged for it. Obviously £1 is barely an issue, the only annoyance was that it was made out to be free. Other than this however cannot complain! The bed was very comfy, TV has freeview, the bathroom was a nice size with a bath. There was also a hotel bar however we didn't get round to using this. Overall very good for £39 :)

We had our wedding here in August of this year. The staff went above and beyond for us. The venue looked AMAZING. The food was beautiful. Everything was perfect. A special mention to Christine who was beyond lovely, did everything we asked of her and made our day go just how we wanted it too. We were then put up in the bridal suite / executive suite / room 2 on our wedding night. The room was lovey. Spacious. Very very comfy beds. Lovely modernised bathroom suite. The breakfast was help yourself and as many times as you wanted, always a plus and it was delicious (esp.! the sausages). Whether you are looking at booking your wedding here or just a stay at the hotel, I simply could not recommend them more. Thank you guys :-) xx

"Brilliant Stay"

Got booked into this hotel by my place of work, first impressions whilst driving to the location wasn't high at all. As soon as I went to check in, there was minor problems with my name not being on the system, but was shortly fixed. Throughout my stay in this hotel, I was pleased to say that I did not have any problems with anything other than the radiator not working. Breakfast every morning was phenomenal, a great homely cooked breakfast. Just like my grandmother used to cook them. I would 100% like to recommend this hotel and am looking forward in using again.

"Standard of Cleanning needs improving"

I am frequent visitor to the Westley for Meals wakes etc. overall impression the foyer reception area is like a old people's home. The smell of stale carpets badly stained in some areas and the disgusting lavender smell which appears to be from the toilets nearby only highlights this. The hotel management if they can't afford new carpets should at least invest in getting the carpets professionally cleaned. Also, clean the toilet area properly as well as pay more attention to dust on ledges mould around taps. Get rid of the lavender for a less powerful smell such as jasmine etc. The same applies in the restaurant and bar area. Dusty ledges and some tables and chairs. In the foyer area I don't see any flowers to freshen the place up they don't have to be real thing ! There's enough places that sell artificial flower displays and plant pots etc. I notice the hotel states it's just been recently refurbished I don't see any evidence of this in the main reception and dining areas. This is the first point of contact any visitor or guest to the hotel would see before going to their rooms.

On arrival at the hotel, our first impression was that it was very dated and in need of refurbishing. Our double room, however, had been recently decorated and was clean and comfy. The twin room's bathroom was very old fashioned. Breakfast was included but all the hot food looked like it had been sitting in the trays for a very long time. Location is good, as it is near shops and the rail station. The reception staff were helpful and friendly but the breakfast staff were not as efficient.

Travelling in a group of 4 got booked in on Friday afternoon. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There were events in the bar and function room on the Friday evening both stopped close to midnight. Saturday there was another event in the function room but once you know the hotel you can choose rooms to suit your preferences.

"Noisy room"

Surprisingly, the main entrance is at the rear of the hotel and accessed via the car park. We had requested a quiet room, but probably got the noisiest (room 28). It was situated on the first floor immediately above the rear entrance, and as such was subject to people gathering to chat to each other, or to use the phone, until quiet later into the evening. At the same time smoke from smokers was also wafting in from those gathering in the same area. Therefore we had a choice of either closing the window or waiting for people to disperse. However, with the stifling evening heat closing the window was not really an option. Despite this the room was clean and of a reasonable size. The car park is quite large, and there are numerous nearby buses that go into Birmingham or Solihull.

"A few let downs but nice overall"

I stayed here on Friday night for my friends wedding the following day. The hairdresser was coming at 08:30 on the Saturday morning but breakfast started at 8 so we thought it will be fine if we got down for 8am and had a breakfast to set us up for the day before the hairdresser arrived. Upon coming down for breakfast we were told that there was no hot breakfast yet as the chef was running late. We waited until 8:30 and still no hot breakfast! The other girls waited until 8:50 for a warm meal! We had to miss out yet we were still charged. We were told that the bar was also open all night for residents yet when we tried to get a drink at 12:15am at the bar we were told we had to wait until 1am to be served by the night porter. Other than that the hotel was clean and the staff were lovely and friendly x

I can't speak for this venue as a hotel, but as a restaurant it's absolutely appalling. We recently attended a 70th birthday family meal which was a carvery. But despite there only being 3 others dining (not including our table) there was no gravy. We asked for more, after 20 mins of waiting (food going cold) the manager brings over the most lumpy, vile gravy I've ever seen. To be fair to her, she did apologise by way of a bottle of wine. But the damage was already done with regards to whether we would return.

Plenty of parking and good breakfast. I like Best Western as you know you will generally get a good serviceable hotel room at a good price, without it being an upmarket hotel. "Great Hotel"

I stayed here for a weekend in July whilst attending a course at another nearby hotel. I found all the staff accommodating and very friendly. The room was large and perfect for what I needed (a base for the weekend) my ONLY criticism was the fact that the water pressure was so so bad that it was nearly impossible to have a shower. I was in a room in the Annex building on the top floor which may explain this but it did somewhat taint the review I am giving. However everything else was totally perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

staff were helpful and pleasant, The food was good. The bedroom was comfortable and the bed was excellent. Had obviously had undergone recent refurbishment and was very clean with a nice modern bathroom.

Really nice hotel people where lovely and welcoming. Very nice rooms looks like they have been done up. Bathroom was lovely. Very clean. No noise from function. Very pleasent stay would reccomed for couple getting away for a weekend or even friends on a nite out as close to city centre.

I went to a wedding at this hotel with my family and aside from the mistakes that we encountered as part of the wedding the rooms are a good size with everything you need. Beautiful bathrooms and everything you expect in a hotel room. The communal areas are a little dated and we ate on the Friday night in the main restaurant, which wasn't that busy, but the service was very slow, came out incorrect and wasn't that good quality. I decided not to complain, as I was too busy sorting other things out that evening, however I did see other people complaining. Our neighbours in our corridor complained at 10pm about the noise, however we had 4 rooms all next to and adjacent from each other, so of course sorting out the Bride we were back and forth in the rooms. however one of the rooms occupied a baby and they didn't complain. I don't understand why the hotel would choose to put someone who wasn't part of the bridle party next to the bridle party, we were all asleep by midnight and we weren't having a party in our room!!! Breakfast was average nothing special and the main issue I had with the hotel was the chaos over bookings and payments, I was charged twice for one room and overcharged for another room which wasn't ready till after 6pm for us to check into and then didn't have the z-beds made up that we had paid the extra for. When we tried to explain that we felt we had been overcharged we were told we would have to take it up with the manager who wasn't back until the following week. The bar area is very dated and could do with an overhaul and so are the toilets, the staff die seem a little stressed, but tried to do the best they could which I commend them for and Lucy the duty manager really helped with many of our issues and between her and the restaurant staff managed to deal with all issues raised even when they must have been exhausted with the hours they put in. I would recommend this hotel for a stop over but unfortunately not for a wedding sorry.

We were shocked that we could stay here at the price we paid! £45 gave us room 21, a lovely room with newly refurbished room. The bed was a large double and very comfortable. The room was clean and well finished. The en-suite was finished to a high standard with a powerful constant temperature shower. Kettle in room with tea and coffee bits. The window overlooked the flat roof of the hotel but who wants to stare out of a window? Key card room with night porter access after 11pm. There was no wifi in the room as they said it was being updated. Assured it would be there in future. Over all a good quality room for a low price

Stayed on the night of the 17th of June prior to going to a concert at the Genting Arena. The staff greeted you with a smile and made you feel very relaxed and welcome. They showed us to our room which was spacious and spotlessly clean. Must have been recently upgraded. Bed very comfortable. Although on a very busy road the traffic did not disturb us at all.

Very happy with our one nights stay in this hotel. Young lady at receiption was very friendly and room was lovely and bed and pillows very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again when in this area. Large car park and nice little beer garden behind the pub.

"Mums funeral"

Went there for my Mothers funeral, as thought it would be lovely and food would be amazing, how wrong can you be. All seemed to be very organised when my daughter and I booked it, come the day sandwiches had a hint of filling in, curry and rice was good, but think they gave us short measures, also seemed to do same with the chips. Asked for more sandwiches looked like they were filled with off cuts of meats. as for the desserts, not much choice. We were very disappointed to say the least. Would not recommend going.

I have stayed several times at this hotel over the past few months. Each visit has been comfortable, and the service from the hotel staff good. The rooms are nicely furnished, and many have been recently been refurbished, overall sleep quality is good. The hotel has an annexe and many rooms within the annex are larger than a normal hotel. Food and breakfast are typical for a three star hotel, and are reasonably priced. This hotel hosts functions over the weekend so ask for a room away from the function room for a peaceful sleep. and The WiFi is free, and is available throughout the hotel. Just one last comment, do not be put off by the view from the main road as this hotel is back to front, this is that the front of the hotel being is access from car park so you see the back of the hotel from the road.

Booked this hotel for a night with the partner and found it to be a pleasant stay, the rooms were large and spacious with a double bed which was extremely soft and comfortable. The bathrooms were also a reasonable size with good lighting and both rooms presented as clean. The room came equipped with a hair dryer and refreshments including kettle and options of hot drinks. The atmosphere of the hotel itself felt very nice and comfortable, the decor fitted classic historic styles which was a nice change from the modern style hotels you get, I feel like this added to the homey feel of the hotel.

The staff in the bar and the reception where friendly and helpful, however we had an evening meal in the restaurant and also at breakfast and the food service was the worst i have see this year in a hotel restaurant. We had breakfast included for 2 both morning and it was so bad we went elswhere on the second day. Rooms are fine and clean though a little dated

We spent two nights here over the weekend. You either stay in the hotel or the annex. We had the annex, rooms are larger than average with very tall ceilings. Plenty of coffee, tea and hot chocolate options in the room. The bathroom was a little dated it everything was clean. Comfy beds and lots of space, overall great value for money. Staff were all very pleasant. The only negative is the restaurant, the grill. We had one evening meal here which was awful, see my other review. Breakfast wasn't great. Meant to start at 8am, but even by 8.15am things weren't ready. Only one girl seemed to be working and was doing her best but it's understaffed. The bacon had more fat than bacon, hash browns were burnt, the scrambled eggs looked like porridge and asking for a fried egg took so long the rest of the breakfast had gone stone cold. It was so bad even though it was included in the price on the second day we left early and went somewhere else.

Visited this hotel; for lunch on 11th May 2016. Only bar available which is very basic. Food disappointing. Steak & mushroom pie was full of steak but it was as tough as old boots. Vegetables were fresh, only redeeming factor. Shan't visit again. Frontage on main road was shabby. Not up to the usua Best Western standard.l

the staff were amazing. the hotel was clean and very quiet. the bed mattress was very soft and i woke with a bad back, but if you like soft materesses it would have been good. the shower was hard to control the temperature and kept jumping from hot to cold. the breakfast was suitable for all and nothing was too much for the lady who was serving us

I had a horrendous stay (I can't say sleep because I didn't get any) at this awful hotel. When I first checked into my room (number 17) I heard a loud extractor fan going off outside of the room on the flat roof and as I am a really light sleeper went to reception to see about being moved. I was explained that it is just the kitchen fan which goes off at 9pm so to not worry. I again explained that if it was going off i would have to move but got told not to worry it would. It got to 9.45pm and it was still going so I rang reception to ask them why it was still going off, she informed me that she would speak to the kitchen and get back to me. They did, 5 more mins then it will be off they said... I politely waited until 10.30pm when it was still going off rang again. This time she informed me that maybe the kitchen will be going on longer than usual so she can move me into a better quieter room. I was moved to the annex house (room 80) which from first impressions was good as it was huge. However, there was another v loud fan going off above the room. I thought it was probably the extractor fan from the bathroom upstairs but it did not turn off. It was so loud it was shaking the bed. Not wanting to sound like a drama Queen I thought I would grin and bear it... It got to 1.30am with no sleep and I couldn't take anymore. I went to the reception and was met by the night manager and explained about the noise... He knew exactly which room I was talking about and confessed others had complained about the noise from that room. He came to inspect it and said there was nothing he could do because all the rooms were taken! He said he couldn't sleep in that room either. Whilst being apologetic it didn't help my situation. So beware of room 80!! I must have had about 1 hours sleep in total not good when you have a lot of business meetings. My main gripe is surely the reception staff are aware of the noise from room 80 and if so why did they move a light sleeper into that room... Beggars belief. Breakfast was also an awful affair except for the charming older lady who serves you, she's the only positive of this dated hotel. I would stay away not only because of the noise but because of how dated everything is in there. Really a one to avoid

This hotel is served by buses (5 mins to stop) and trains (10 minutes to station) for access to Moor Street in Birmingham centre. Our room had been recently modernised and the décor and bathroom of a high standard. Food and service in the restaurant was very good with interesting menu choices.

An older hotel, past its prime, needing a major make-over. Shabby, and poorly maintained. Thin walls, broken lights in room, breakfast OK but little available except the standard English Fry-up and plastic sliced bread. To be avoided unless no other choice. Positives are: fairly local to NEC, and has a good car park.

We had a party of 10 booked in various nights of the week, they not only cancelled a full weeks booking without consultation after a 1 night no show, but we had 3 of our party have to find alternate accommodation in the area as the rooms had been 'sold on'!! The restaurant had been fine when there were 2 or 3 of us, but when we booked a table of 8 it was a disaster.....cold food, over cooked steaks and main courses which would have looked small as starters....the table next to us (another 8 seater) ordered before us and were served after us....would definitely not recommend eating as a group!! To be fair, Gemma and Claire in the restaurant were awesome and deserve far better

Stayed on a Saturday Night for a birthday party at a nearby venue. Ample car parking, nice staff at reception, good size room. clean and tidy.Bathroom decent size & clean. Plenty of stations on the TV.The pub next door showed live sport so that was fine by me,The main gripe was the breakfast which was not the best , bacon seemed undercooked & hash browns dry & overdone.Generally good stay for the price.

My wife stayed here while visiting the NEC, she was very happy with her stay, food was good. It was a lot cheaper than staying at the hotels around the NEC in fact for the 3 nights she saved about £450. She didn't have a car so used taxi to go to and back from the NEC average cost £12 each way. Still good value to do this even with the cost of taxi fares.

Stayed one night (thank goodness only one). Had booked three single rooms as flying over for Adele concert in Birmingham. My room, although appeared clean absolutely STANK OF CIGARETTE SMOKE.... could not believe how bad the smell was, even though the window was open as wide as it could go. When i complained to manager she explained that there was no other rooms available as a wedding was on and handed me a bottle of spray. She did not even consider making any gesture and as I had prepaid for the three rooms, I could not refuse to pay or ask for a discount. When I took a shower in the room in the morning the bathroom stil stank of smoke, as if it was lining the walls of the shower. I will not be returning!

We went to the Westley hotel for a surprise birthday party. The restaurant was serving a carvery which was average fayre. At least three of us had the warm chicken and bacon salad with mustard dressing, one salad had all chicken and no bacon whilst I had all bacon and no chicken, none of us could taste a hint of the mustard dressing. We then went to the carvery, the meat was very tasty, as for the vegetables they were quite hard and all seemed to be butter basted, which is OK if you like butter, the desserts were nice, it was a change from our usual carvery but nothing special.

Good bed and breakfast but disappointing Lounge/Bar - more like a Bar. I was at a family function in the function room which was excellently serviced in all ways. However, on a visit to the Lounge/Bar prior to attending the function, I was disappointed in that it turned out to be a drinking Bar and not a Lounge for guests and function attendees. The standard is very high in the function room with bar BUT, the decor and comfort of the Lounge Bar is poor.

Very nice hotel with a very large parking area at the rear of the hotel very clean and tidy staff friendly and helpful, food is really nice could do with bigger portions but it's nice regardless also 5 min walk to the town centre where you have all shops takeaways pubs etc and not to far from Solihull would Deffo be coming back.

Very well presented ground floor room which has been refurbished but the bathroom is quite old fashioned ( great if you need ground floor access ) but be aware the room is away from the main hotel building so if you wish to visit the bar or restaurant you need to come outside to access the hotel. Good breakfast and very reasonable price. Bar is very busy with sports channels and therefore very loud, quite a male environment. Some general areas could do with updating as fairly old fashioned.

This is a small and friendly hotel, in a busy and bustling town, where there are lots of shops and activities. Unfortunately, every time we have been to the restaurant at the hotel, it has failed to deliver 100% standards. Typical problems include; long waits to be served and orders taken, lack of experienced staff, very average food and reservations poorly recorded. It is such a shame that this restaurant cannot get it 100% right as it is well-priced and a pleasant environment.

We had a carvery here to celebrate our son's baptism at the end of Feb 2016. We cannot praise the service enough. Christine and Julie helped to plan every detail, and were so personal in their service to us. On the day Lucy and Lynn were so well briefed and made sure everything went really smoothly, even with our rabble of a family! The food was amazing, and they were so flexible in catering for coeliacs, dairy free and two autistic boys who needed to eat off the menu. Thank you so much for making our event stress free and fun. We'll definitely be back.

The BW Westley Hotel is a nice and comfortable place to stay. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable. The internet speed was rather poor unfortunately but everything else was fine. The restaurant food was very good. I'd recommend this hotel to others.

Generally when I stay at this hotel I'm always greeted warmly and all the staff are so very helpful. The restaurant provides a great selection of good quality food with a varied choice, I would like the recommend the Chef offer's say each night ONE CHEF'S SPECIAL to allow regular guests a little bit more choice, as I have tried every meal on the menu. The rooms are very comfortable and always cleaned to a high standard and you are able to sleep well. There is also part of the hotel a bar which is managed by Andy and great host and always happy to help, his cheerful smile makes you feel very much at home and enjoyable.

after a 4 hour trip, turned up at 4.30 p.m and our room was not prepared. a frosty welcome and we were promised they were right on it! 20 minutes later and we are still loitering in the foyer with 2 tired children. No apology forthcoming. settle in for the evening only to discover our "family room" is directly above the pub which is part of the hotel. Spent all evening listening to thumping club music and people shouting. When I complained at reception re; the noise and logic of locating a family room above a pub , was told they will try and turn it down, but too bad, that is the layout of the hotel! when we left--no enquiry if everything had been o.k or even thanks for staying! Very nice breakfast though. a few lessons in customer service would not go amiss here. A hotel desperately in need of refurbishment, in all departments.

Very nice attentive hotel. Good staff, great pleasure to stay here. Good area with good local restaurants; food and bar good at hotel. Very good breakfast, quiet hotel. Bigger than I thought. Local people in the bar too made it feel very relaxing and reassuring ie not a faceless business hotel. Birmingham seemed a very nice place. Will come back.

You know what to expect with Best Western. Nothing over the top. Just a good hotel with creaking floors. (No lift though). Nice welcome, good sized room, very clean and tidy. No noise or disturbance. Big pub with friendly folk (residents and locals) as well as a restaurant (last orders in both 9.30 pm). Excellent breakfast (well done the breakfast ladies, who made all the difference, and reminded us what a proper breakfast is!). Secure car park. And if you don't want to eat in, there are good places nearby - Pasta Di Piazza for one. (Turn right, then left at the corner).

I stayed at the Best Western Wetly Hotel for the night before a big interview in the city. It was a good location close to a small shopping district. The room was spacious and well laid out with an adequate shower and large bed. The breakfast was a full english in a buffet style, it was a great little fill up before a big day and was reasonable at £5 extra. The staff were always friendly at reception and restaurant staff made you feel at home. I would recommend the Westley for a short stay in Birmingham.

I stayed here for one night ahead of business in Solihull the next day. The hotel was easy to find, with a large car park. In spite of having booked and pre-paid, check-in was slow, and seemed somewhat grudging, as though I was intruding upon the gentleman's time! Once in my room, it seemed comfortable enough and a good temperature (others may have found it too cool, but I found it perfect). The bathroom seemed to have been recently refurbished and was in good order. I discovered, later in the evening, that several of the sockets in the room didn't work, which made life interesting in trying to charge mobile 'phones et al. Bizarrely, one socket of a double worked perfectly although the other didn't! Breakfast, the next morning, was fairly quiet. Unusually, no fried eggs were available and some of the other buffet items were in short supply whilst others tasted strongly of oil/grease. The overall impression was of faded glory and a hotel where staff sometimes seemed to be going through the motions rather than being genuinely customer focussed.

I was massively disappointed by my stay at the Best Western Westley Hotel. Having arrived at 2.10pm for an advertised 2pm check in, I was given a room in on the top floor of an building across the car park. After the long walk there with all my luggage, I opened the door to a smelly, messy room which hadn't been made up since the previous occupant had left. I returned to reception to let them know, received an apology and was asked to go and have a drink in the bar (at my own expense) whilst they got another room ready. After half an hour, I received a phone call from reception to tell me that the second room was ready. I once again lugged all my luggage to the new room, unpacked and sat down to work. But the WiFi wouldn't work at all - none of my mobile devices nor laptop would connect via the WiFi access code in the room. As I was in Birmingham on business, internet access was VITAL to me. I had essential work to get done before an important meeting the next day. Once again I returned to reception and was given another access code. On return to my room once again, I soon found out that the new WiFi code wouldn't work, either. I returned to reception again and they said someone would come to my room to assist with the internet access. 20 minutes later, someone came and she couldn't get it working either... Eventually, the manager on duty kindly offered me another room, larger in size, with promised "High Speed Internet Access". I managed to finally get a connection in this room, but the internet speeds were so diabolically slow that my emails wouldn't even download and web pages wouldn't load. By this time, I gave up. If you're staying in Birmingham on business and need access to the internet via the advertised 'high speed internet', I'd recommend you stay elsewhere. As for the room I eventually was allocated, it was nice. Bathroom was large and bed was comfy. But sadly, I left this place with a bitter taste of disappointment... I wouldn't return.

Abundant off-road safe parking for Birmingham and NEC. Great wifi. Excellent updated bathroom in comfortable room with comfortable bed, TV and tea-tray. Clean and no noise from traffic, full cover curtains. Service not special, some noise from bar in evening, main through carpet somewhat tired, no lift noted (and not offered). Not the best but comfortable, good-value-for-money in great location for Birmingham and surroundings.

Stayed here for one night and was very impressed from start to finish.2 girls on reception very welcoming and friendly.Room was excellent and spotless clean and a very modern bathroom. The 2 girls working in the restaurant where as friendly as the reception staff and provided us with an excellent meal.Try the Chicken Tikka Masala if you go in. Great breakfast and again very friendly waiter. The corridors are a bit dated but overall excellent value for money and 10 out of 10 to the hotel for their staff.

"Christmas Day Dinner"

My family and I (party of around 13) attended here for our Christmas day dinner. It's the first time we've ever ate out at christmas before and it's the best decision we've made. We'll definitely be doing it again this year. The meal was as perfect as a home cooked meal, the staff was fantastic especially our waiter (Aaron), and the atmosphere was also perfect. we had a lovely time at the Christmas party the carvery was lovely and the staff we decided to make a nice night of it and stayed over at the end of the night we were going to finish off with a drink in the bar before going upstairs to bed but that's where our nice night finished we got a shock to be kept by reception for about 20 min by a nasty woman ( can't call her a lady ) Lucy was her name I understand she is a duty manager I felt I was back at school before she would let us in for this reason only my friends & I will never go back to be treated like that again ps lovely breakfast

attended christmas party night and stayed at the hotel overnight, hotel was lovely and the food was wonderful and the overall party night was amazing , UNTIL!!!!!! as residents we wanted to go into the residents bar and the gestapo!! Lucy made us sit outside the door for 20 minutes!!!! and was then told you only have half hour!!! I thought the residents bar was a 24 hour service!!! to say being treated like a child was an understatement and to be honest put a sour taste on a wonderful night, I feel that she could probably do with a customer service course, when we checked out we did express our concerns has to being treated like a child.

Hi Trish, Many thanks for the review, I am delighted that you had a wonderful experience with us for your Christmas Party, this was my 1st Christmas at this hotel and I have to say that its been a very enjoyable month for us, all of our parties went down superb. I want you to accept my apologies for the customer service you received from Lucy, myself and Lucy have spoken about this in length and its come to light that the night porter was setting up the Westley Suite for the next party after yours, so he was unfortunately not available straight away to serve on the bar. I can understand your frustration with being told you only have half an hour, Lucy wants you to know that it was never meant to make you feel like a child, its just that we couldn't have the night porter on the bar for a prolonged amount of time due to the room needing to be set up. I have decided that for any parties such as yours, I will have a member of bar staff working later than usual so that residents can enjoy the use of the bar. I do hope you come back to see us soon. A group of friends and I went to this hotel for lunch. We all enjoyed the food. The staff were helpful and courteous and the menu offered enough choice for all of us. Free parking is available on siteI will visit again.

"Standard hotel. Adequate for stay."

Arrived at the hotel to have an error in our reservation. We booked through booking.com two double rooms which had been processed. Unfortunately the best western had only allocated us two single bedrooms. This was resolved however the staff service wasn't very professional. I felt like we were to blame for their mistake. We then felt guilt as we had taken another bookings rooms and we were told they would just worry about the consequences later. The rooms were nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. Unfortunatly we were placed in a room next to the outside generator so it was very noisy through the night. Along side this when having a shower the connector broke so I had to hold the shower head when showerin, I appreciate no one is to blame for this. Overal a reasonable stay but could have been improved with better customer service. This would be the main reason for lowering my star rating. Has the potential to be a lovely hotel. Unfortunately we didn't eat here so can not recommend the dining.

"Nowhere like the other Best Western Hotels"

Specialy booked double bed on hotel's own website, but got 2 single beds in the room. Receptionist said they didn't get that information from the booking system and couldn't do anything. Also, requested a change in invoice which wasn't carefully done and still had a mistake. Generally Best Western hotels are really good so I'm surprised at this experience myself.

When you book through a third party, all the details you give the company are put into our system for us, and it does become very difficult to make changes to these details. clean hotel, nicely decorated and appointed rooms, great shower, friendly efficient reception.. The restaurant was a bit 80s, every main course had a sugary sauce/chutney or coating. Steaks were good. Didn't try the breakfasts. Loads of parking

This is a beautiful hotel. It's an old style building with lots of old style features. The lady on reception gave a very warm welcome and was very helpful indeed. With the building being old there are no lifts, so you have to be prepared to haul your luggage up the stairs. It does say in the information in your room that help is available should you want it, but it's a bit late once you're already in your room. It would be a nice touch to be automatically offered help, because not everyone is comfortable asking things like that. I mean I may be a youngish woman, but I was laden with luggage, so feel that common sense should have told the receptionist I may need help. It wasn't a big issue - I managed - just something to perhaps think about. The hotel is very different in that it has rooms in a separate building on the opposite side of the entrance to the car park. I was in the main building so can't comment on the separate building, but it was bucketing down with rain when I stayed and I couldn't help but think how annoyed I'd be at having to walk across to that building in the pouring rain. There really needs to be some kind of covered walk way for people who need to get over there. My room was small but perfectly formed. It was very cosy and comfortable, and amazingly quiet. The bathroom was clean and decently sized. The bath was lovely. The bed was very comfortable and I had a decent sleep. The tea/coffee tray came with the lovely added extra of a small packet of biscuits, there was good information about the hotel, and the wifi was free and very good. I was very impressed with my room. I didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the bar or restaurant, but there was a supermarket a couple of minutes away, and plenty of fast food places around. It's a good location because it's within easy reach of the NEC/B'ham International train station/B'ham Airport and the M42, and also not too far from Acocks Green train station to get you into the centre of Birmingham should you wish to hit the shops! A very nice hotel and I would definitely stay again :)

"Pleasantly surprised"

I attended a dinner dance on Saturday 21st November, I started with a drink in one of the three bars busy with footie on the TV. No wine list available here (wanted to order wine I would still be able to drink in dance) Into the ball room a warm room light bright and decorated for Christmas.When I last visited the Wesley a couple of years ago this room was so cold and the red wine so cold it was undrinkable so I was hesitant about accepting my friends invitation. The staff were all friendly and the three course meal with coffee was enjoyable this time the red wine was the c correct temperature collected from the restaurant rather than the cold cellar.Whilst not sure if the DJ was provided in house or engaged separately, but he was good playing guests requests straight away.The hotel being on a bus route making it easy to enjoy a drink and being a hotel all eventualities are covered.

"Notable failings"

This hotel is quite reasonable in many ways. The bedrooms are well appointed, the Wi-Fi is excellent, and so forth. We did not have any meals in the hotel so I cannot comment on those. But the heating is only on at certain times so if you come late to the room, or get up late, the room is very cold. The main thing to watch out for are the stairs. To get to my room from reception I had to go to the front door of the hotel, and on the road to the next house, into that house and up a flight of stairs, then a small flight of stairs, then another flight of stairs, then another small flight of stairs, all carrying my luggage. You might think that reception would offer to help me, a late middle-aged man in poor health, with my luggage, but not a chance. Even in the main building both myself and my friend at different times tripped on a very small stair along one of the main corridors. Okay, it's got good features, but be warned especially if you're not expecting to carry your own luggage up a lot of stairs. And, of course, for the rest of the stay you have to keep going up and down those stairs.

Hi David, Many thank for the review, I am disappointed that we did not exceed your expectations on this occasion, i will pick up your comment with my Front of House Manager, it is common practice for us to offer to take your luggage for you, we actually have someone always on hand to help with tasks such as this. The town house next door, is my favourite part of the hotel, amazingly large rooms with high ceilings all the original features however with a modern twist. I am sorry that your room was on the top floor however if you would have mentioned your health at reception we would have accommodated you in the main hotel straight away. Its a shame you didn't eat with us, our new head chef has just started and his food is something we are very proud to serve, equally breakfast is just as nice, so please on your next visit do try out our breakfast you will not be disappointed. The step your talking about is between the hotels reception and the main staircase, it is highlighted in black and yellow which does mean there is a raised level to watch out for. "Amazing en suite"

Lovely room - very big. Bathroom beautifully decorated and equipped. Breakfast good but they had run out of bacon and we had to wait for that to be cooked. We were not advised that we could request a poached or fried egg. We read this in the menu after we had collected our breakfasts. (Elderly) female staff member in restaurant at breakfast lovely and very helpful. Christmas tree up in foyer too soon - 17th November. Beautifully kept original wood bannisters etc. Hotel a bit of a maze. Overall lovely stay and would recommend.

"The hidden gem for a quiet stay"

This was a mid week stay on business, and I chose this hotel because of its proximity to me destination next day. Sometimes you strike lucky, and this was one of those times! Located in a residential area this is a medium sized conference and weddings hotel with large free car parking facility. As expected with a Best Western hotel, this is clean, warm, and looked as if it had had a recent makeover. I booked a single room, and that is what I got! A single bed wasn't quite what I am used to, but the room was fine in size and the en suite shower over bath facility was definitely up market in presentation. The restaurant was fine for dinner and breakfast, and surprisingly for a hotel, the beer from the bar was very well kept! Top marks to he who looks after the cellar. The wifi was good, and free! Service from all the staff was friendly and very competent. This is a mid-priced hotel, with b&b around £90, but given its location near to the centre of Birmingham, it represents great value for money.

My husband and i would like to thank the team at the Westley for a fantastic reception following our wedding on Halloween. The event planners are fab; the day ran seamlessly, the guests loved the food and the accommodation was excellent. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend to other couples :)

Stayed here on business for a night. The room was a good size, a little faded, but clean. The room has good wifi and TV. I had the evening meal and breakfast next morning. The food was good, and friendly service. Not spectacular in any way but a pretty good all rounder

I stayed here 2 nights for my friends wedding. The rooms were spacious and clean. From the run up to the wedding right up to the moment we checked out o cannot fault the friendliness of the staff especially the manager Sean who helped make my friends wedding perfect. The breakfast was lovely and again the staff couldn't do enough to help the wedding party be together. Would definitely recommend.

We had just experienced a bad night in an independent hotel in Cambridge the night before, so were pleased to stay in the Westley prior to a visit to the NEC. The staff were friendly and professional, everything was clean and tidy and it was quiet. The restaurant was a bit limited but we were happy with the carver. Overall I couldn;t fault it!

I had booked because a friend was holding her 50th birthday party here. When we arrived we were told that they had no knowledge of our booking. Many other guests also has problems with their bookings, and some were forced to find alternative accommodation. We did get a family room ( they found they had spelt my surname wrong and their was a room available.) The room was very good, and all the extras were there. The breakfast was fantastic, and service at the breakfast excellent. And the value in the price was amazing. I would have given it 5 stars and would go again but would be concerned that you can't be sure a room will be available- as the booking process meant nothing.

Working away for a few months and found this hotel/ pub / restaurant and it's spot on, typical pub with great food and drink then the restaurant has a classier menu if your feeling lavish. Rooms are perfect for what you pay and pretty sound proofed, they all seem to have brand new bathrooms as well. Only reasons for the 4 star are - bar maid who can't pour a decent ale and a receptionist who got a change wrong on our rooms (but it was resolved straight away). I will be staying here most of the winter and very happy to keep coming back each week.

Stayed for two nights as the wake for a funeral we attended was being held there. Room clean and fresh. Very disappointed with meat pie we had, very expensive and an awful lot of gristle. Would not eat in restaurant again. Hotels most redeeming feature is the lady who dealt with us at breakfast, remembered what drinks we had in morning, nothing was too much trouble absolute treasure

"hotel to stay at when using vintage trains"

This hotel was recommended by vintage trains to stay at for easy access to the tyseley train works. We would certainly agree and the hotel is very good all round but you need to be aware of a disco on saturday night and a noisy kitchen fan so ask for a room away from both, unless you wish to join the disco.

"Pleasant Stay for Business"

Was here for two nights with a colleague on business. The rooms for the price were very reasonable, however breakfast was not included in the rate we had (via booking.com) and was expensive to include, so we opted out. Staff were pleasant to speak to, and food in the bar area was good. Found it odd that we had a room in the "annex" but it worked out for the better as it was very quiet. There was however a bit of a financial mix up after we left, so I would advise you make sure both you and the hotel know how the bill will be dealt with!

I got really used to this place after staying here one week per month for about 3 years. The restaurant is good, the staff are friendly and the bar is always entertaining. The walls are a little thin, but since most of the visitors appear to be on business, a good night's sleep was never a problem.
