Very nice staff! The front desk and housekeeping laides were all so nice! Our room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is really pretty. The pool are was Great. We will stay again next time we stop in Bend!

"Covid-19 Sanctuary"

Due to a last minute change of plans, we ended up here and were glad we did. Check-in was quick, and check out automatic. Staff was masked, polite, and helpful, especially when our take-out restaurant neglected to provide utensils. Front desk had them for us. Nice room, comfy king bed, good shower and tv. We did not use any of the facilities (pool, gym) but were very happy with our room. Choices of 4 "bag breakfasts" was a welcome surprise in the morning.

After driving for 10 hours that day we arrived at the hotel. Check in was very quick and everything seemed to be going OK. Then we made it to our room. The first time we flushed the toilet it overflowed with water going all over the floor. We tried to call the front desk but the phone didn't work. So we ran downstairs to have someone come look at it but instead we were handed a plunger and told to do it ourselves. It is rediculous to pay almost $200 for a room and plunge a toilet yourself. I tried to plunge it but that didn't work. We were then given two options, check out with a refund or stay in the room with a broken toilet and toilet water all over the floor. I called around to other hotels but everything was booked. Bend is a pretty busy town in the summer. I had to go down and complain multiple times trying to find a manager but the front desk girl was the only one there on a busy Saturday night. Finally after an hour of complaining, getting more towels to clean up the toilet water, taking our 4 kids downstairs to use the lobby restroom, we were told they could clean another room for us to stay in for the night but it would take 2 more hours. That was at 8:30 at night. We have 4 kids with the oldest one being 8. This was a recipe for disaster. The front desk girl was doing everything she could on a busy Saturday night because she was the only one there. No manager, no maintenance people, no one to help her clean the room. She worked hard and cleaned the next room for us which was better but you could tell it was a quick clean and not a full room cleaning and during covid that made me a little nervous but we had literally no other options. Even after cleaning up toilet water and plunging a toilet ourselves we were not offered a discount or anything to try to make up for the disastrous start. It was not the fault of the front desk girl because she was trying to do everything she could bring the only person there on a busy night but be warned, do not not stay here!

The room itself was not bad, but the unvacuumed carpet left me wondering how well it had been cleaned prior to our arrival. Debris was on the floor. A piece of driftwood sat propped up in the corner of the room as if no one had even gone to this corner to clean. There is a large sign on the hotel when you drive up saying "now hiring" so perhaps they are short staffed. I sprayed down all the high touch surfaces to be safe. The beds were comfortable and the room we had very quiet. Despite being recently renovated, the hotel's small lobby was small and dreary. The location is really poor. It is basically just off the highway, opposite a gas station across the lot from it. We wish we'd stayed at the Hampton Inn we'd stayed at by the river a few days prior for what we paid for this Best Western. The front door of the hotel says masks are required, and upon check-in, the front desk clerk was wearing a mask, but a staff member who looked to be part of the housekeeping staff (matching dark blue pants and shirt) was behind the desk then in the elevator with guests not wearing a mask. Saw this same employee arrive to work the next day, exit her boyfriend/husband's car, and enter the hotel without a mask. Effective July 24, Oregon requires masks or facecoverings for all indoor businesses. I'd look elsewhere next time to stay for the price we paid.

"What Happened to the Staff?"

First, remember that this was during Covid. We knew things would be limited. Upon arrival, hotel looked nice. Obviously a Best Western makeover of a previous property. Front Desk clerk only available with a bell. We checked in around 8. She was friendly. I asked about local eateries nearby (you have to drive back south to find anything). I asked if they were open (she said all are open till 10 because of Covid). We asked about the pool, because the kids really wanted to swim and the Reservtions clerk we spoke with earlier said it was available even though CV 19. Clerk now said not available until 10PM, as they were doing individual family groups and scheduling those on a sign-up sheet for 30-minute intervals. So we took the 10pm slot. Then we left and headed south to the restaurants she suggested- all were closed, at 8PM. So we went further south into Bend and ended up getting fast food. Back to the hotel, waited til 9:55 then went down to use the pool. Our key card did not work, so I went to the desk. No one there, so I rang the bell. 5 mins, still no one. 2 more guests came in to check in, still no one. Rang the bell more times, no one. Called the line, no one answered. 10:15 the clerk came out of the elevator. Apologized, said she is the only one with a key card due to Covid, and no guest cards work. 10:15 we finally get in the pool. Pool area and spa were filthy. You could not see the bottom of the pool. Spa water seemed OK until you turn the suds on. Bubbles had the appearance of dirty sea foam with visible scum on them. I too a board and skimmed the scum off the water so it was more comfortable to use. Then, promptly at 10:30, and with no clerk and key-card to let them in, two women waltzed in to the pool room demanding their time slot. As they watched us packing to leave, we overheard them talking about the clerk, whom they obviously were acquainted with. It was very apparent at that point that these women had a key card to the pool- possibly to the whole building- if it was indeed the clerk's master. Very disappointed in the manner in which this happened. The big selling point in reserving was the pool- the boys really looked forward to it. To wait until 10, then stand around looking for a clerk till 10:15, then get kicked out by two friends of the clerk so they could have their time, all while paying full price, big reason for me not to return. Pool was filthy so I guess we should have been glad to get out. The second floor hallway had bedding laying on the floor outside one room, and no fewer than 3 black garbage bags on the floor across from ours, when we arrived at 8PM. That was all still there when we checked out at 9 the next morning. Obviously some management issues here. The check-out clerk the next day was pleasant. The sack-lunch style breakfast had a microwaveable burrito in it- Huh? Looked like it came from the gas station cooler next door.

Had a great stay at this hotel. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The room and bathroom have been updated. At the time we went, the hotel was remodeling the lobby area. As expected, Holiday Inn Express offered clean rooms and excellent breakfast.

Reasonable rates, comfortable beds, excellent water pressure and a good breakfast -what's not to love? We've been coming to this hotel, regularly, for over 12 years and we consider it "home" when we visit Bend. Theresa, at the front desk, is what customer service is all about and represents the bar by which all employees should be measured. She is an absolute delight and we look forward to seeing her every time we visit. The lobby area is lovely, with a large fireplace and comfortable seating. Our preference is for a room on the top floor, with windows facing the beautiful Cascade Mountain views. We love this hotel!

Efficient and friendly accomodating check-in staff. Requested top floor to avoid any noise from guests above. Room nice and quiet but a bit on the small side. Bed and linens comfortable and bathroom nicely appointed. Breakfast was standard fare for Holiday Inn Express. Their individually wrapped gluten(had no need for gluten free) free muffins were excellent!

Holiday Inn Express Bend is along I-97 north of the city center, and it is a bit isolated. However, it is a very good and quiet hotel. I had a very good room with a comfortable bed, and insulation from outside noise was very good. The bathroom was very good, too. Breakfast was excellent, according to the best Holiday Inn Express standard. Staff were helpful and friendly.

"A Little Tired"

The hotel is located right off Highway 97 as you travel south from Portland, making it very accessible. There is ample parking right outside the premises. Check-in was straightforward however the spa and pool were both out of service. Whilst this was outside immediate control of the staff it was the main reason I selected this hotel and chose to pass through Bend on my way to Idaho. In fairness to the receptionist she did offer me 5000 priority points to compensate me and this was acceptable. The room was clean and relatively large however it fails me how it could be termed to be suite. There was nothing to distinguish it from a very basic room, complete with generic hotel furniture. The decor was extremely plain and somewhat dated and absolutely nothing that made it anything other than featureless, though there was a large wall-mounted flatscreen TV. The bed itself was comfortable and the air-conditioning effective. I had a comfortable nights sleep. Breakfast was simple but adequate.
