Good value for money, clean spacious rooms, no issues at all. Small amount of traffic noise but not significant when compared to other hotels in the CBD area. I would recommend this hotel for short duration business trip as very good value for money.

« Good location for Auckland »

Ankil will ensure you are welcomed professionally and warmly - a great base to explore the city. This was a great location, easy to reach from the airport and a walk from Skybus, plus alternative transports to the airport.

    3
« Good location and surprising view »

This hotel is very close to Sky City and depending on the room you can get a good view of the sky tower. Parking is a bit tricky and the whole place is quite basic and a bit noisy, but fine for a cheapish stay over night like we did.

    « Ask for Shalini »

This was a very nice hotel in a perfect location. Walkable to shops and across the street from the Tower. Shalini works at check-in. When we arrived (too early for check-in) she stored our luggage. She gave us ideas of places to see and visit. We went to the wonderful town of Parnell, where we proceeded to spend, spend, spend! Beautiful town and shops and cafes. Auckland was our first stop of a 3 week New Zealand trip. Two senior old ladies. This hotel was a great first impression on New Zealand. Shalini was a great example of the friendly and helpful service we found throughout this beautiful country.

    « Convenient »

It is centrally located on Victoria Street and in the vicinity of Queen Street CBD area. Tons of shops and restaurants are nearby. Sky Tower is a few steps behind (my room actually has the view of it, quite spectacular at night when all lit up). It is only a few minutes' walk to the pier. Supermarket is just next to the hotel. For the room, it was spacious, clean and well maintained. Breakfast was good, though not as many choices as in big hotels, food was fresh and hot. Good value of money.

« Comfortable hotel in the heart of Auckland. »

This hotel is worth a stay if you're in Auckland. It is clean, comfortable, and close to plenty of restaurants, shopping and tourist sites. The Sky Tower is about 200m away, and the Queen St shopping district is equally close. There are countless restaurants of all kinds around, and whether you're on a budget and eating at McDonald's, or looking for a 5 star meal, you'll be able to find a place to eat within 1km. The walk down to the harbor is about a 10 minute walk at a brisk pace, and takes you through a very nice area.

    3
« Location is close in CBD »

This hotel located near to Sky Tower and Queens Street in CBD Auckland. Room towel is too small even for a small person like me. Hotel should change it to bigger room towel. Hotel staff are not very informative about what is going on in Auckland city. I asked for ANZAC Day memorial service but they gave vague information. I had to ask the police on the street to get more information. As a front liner, they must equip themselves with important information that visitor might ask.

« Best Location and Good value for money »

Very good location! Walking distance to everything- Sky Tower, Queen St, Countdown supermarket just beside the hotel, restaurants everywhere. Staff were very helpful to our needs. Room was very spacious

    4
    « Location with a budget price »

Phenomenal location in my opinion as Skytower is footsteps away and Queen St is only half a block away with a short walk to the ferry area, The rooms were marginal and similar to an American College dorm but at the end of the day very adequate. The biggest issue was the poor carpet in the rooms. Front desk people were helpful considering we arrived early. Ernesto was extremely helpful in locking away our bags so we could begin our sightseeing. I would definitely stay here again. Everything is in walking distance and local tours provide bus or van service to your hotel. Also restaurants and food stores. The reviews on the homeless are real but you will likely have that anywhere you stay if in this area.

    « Value for money »

Stayed here for one night. Very central and within walking distance from various places to eat. the room was comfortable and clean, the receptionist was extremely helpful and found us a very reasonable cost for a taxi to the airport. The room faced the main street and because one of the windows was not double glazed we found it quite noisy.

« Be aware of cockroaches in the room »

I was very unhappy during my 3 nights stay at Best Western President Hotel Auckland. The smell in the room was like in the bathroom. On the second morning during my short stay in the room I killed 2 cockroaches. They did not look like nature born. The lady at front desk was not helpful. Please avoid this place.

    « Auckland Trip »

We found this hotel very noisy with construction but did not complain because reception gave me the rate for my total stay of around $450 but when i got home i noticed they have charged me nearly $900 and when i emailed them they told me the reception had given me the incorrect rate on arrival but didn't inform me differently and our room was on the first floor and we were woken by construction noise early morning but didn't say anything because thought the rate was good not over $250 a night as if i knew this i would have seriously complained and been moved so would not recommend this hotel or check your charges correctly first as i gave them the opportunity to credit me but they didn't give me an offer of this

« Great value for money »

Great location for sightseeing, bars & restaurants, comfortable room. The bed was also comfortable & the amenities were good, a supermarket two doors down & a mini mart next door means there is plenty of choice. BYOG at the supermarket will save you heaps.

    « Good Location »

3-4 blocks up from the waterfront and ½ a block from where Skybus dropped us off at midnight this hotel was in a central location. While not super budget there are not many frills but it's fine. Front desk is efficient and staffed 24 hours. You need to get buzzed into the lobby after midnight. Our room 101, was a bit funky being outside the elevator foyer at the head of the fire escape. It was dark with a view of the neighboring parking garage but clean with a very comfortable bed (with horrible hard pillows) and a well appointed kitchenette with a full size fridge. The closet was large, AC worked well and there was a lot of space to unpack which was nice as we had three nights there. Bathroom was teeny tiny but the shower was spacious. Toiletries were poor quality. Towel warmer was a pleasure although almost in your face as you sat on the toilet with about the same legroom as a coach airline seat! Maid service was great. Our friends up on the 7th floor had a much brighter room with a larger bath but smaller room and smaller kitchen. Overall it was a great for a base for our exploring and I would stay again without hesitation.

« Travelling through Auckland between Australia and Canada for a one night stay »

The staff are friendly and helpful and the location was great. There's not much that could be done to make this hotel a place I would recommend to anyone. Other than the location being good, the room was dingy and felt dirty. It needs some serious upgrading, carpet replacement, new counter tops, air cond in the bedrooms and soundproofing at the very least. It was near impossible to get any rest due to the outside noise. The room is overpriced and with the amount of money being charged, there should be improvements going back into it.

    3
    « Noisy ..... but clean »

Just stayed for a quick business trip. Found the room to be very clean but it's a 3 star aging hotel. Very noisy. You can hear absolutely everything including the lifts up and down up and down. The retrofitted attempt at double glazing with perspex, timber and silicone was poor - unless this is just to try stop people accessing the windows..... Not on my return list for sure

    3
    « Good location »

Whilst a very basic hotel in the middle of Auckland it was very busy and was more like a backpackers hotel. As it was our first hotel during a 6 week tour we wondered what our other hotels were going to be like. Room was large, clean with basic but functional furniture. Main problem was parking as it was very limited.

    3
« Amazing location but very overpriced! »

The location was amazing, staff were great and the room was clean however the beds were TERRIBLY uncomfortable!! The room was dated, the brown net curtains are hideous! Very expensive for such a small, ugly, uncomfortable room!!

    4
    « Great central location »

The staff were exceptional, very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and beds comfy. The room was good value for money and I would definitely stay there again. WE booked through Elvoline - who didn't pass on our booking details, but luckily I checked direct with Best Western and they were able to book a similar room and gave us a free breakfast for the inconvenience.

    « Frustrating stay »

To give some perspective this was the final hotel we've stayed at (totalling 8 hotels) over the past month and typically the worst stay of them all. We arrived to have to wait for reception for approx 30-40 minutes. The female staff were frantically running around and clearly stressed out with how busy it was. Check in - we had booked a king size room. After this long a wait we got into our room, to find a twin room. Yet another 20 minutes wasted queuing for reception again to explain it was not the room we had booked to be told by staff they are all twin rooms unless a family room was booked, sorry that makes no sense, I asked what happens when just couples stay to be told if they are given notice housekeeping will put the beds together to make it a king. When we requested this the reception staff didn't quite grasp that we were asking for this to happen, we had just got engaged and didn't really want separate beds! Finally they understood. The room - dated with horrible brown nets that hang in each window. Nice big tv. The access cards - stopped working every day. Staff continued to tell us it was due to being next to phone and bank cards, we continued to tell them we know this and hadn't done so, the cards are clearly old and need changing. I know this hotel was cheap but these basic things would have made the final stage of our trip so much more enjoyable. Overall I wouldn't recommend.

    « Great Overnight Stay »

Hotel was clean and comfortable and just a minute's walk to the Casino. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the city and is just a short stroll down to the marina and ferry terminus, with loads of brand name shops just around the corner. Check in is quick and easy and staff are great.

    3
« Great location and ok rooms depending on which you get »

My stay was mixed - the first room I was given was dark, basically furnished and did not match the description advertised. Whilst a 1 bedroom studio it didn't feel welcoming and it needed better blinds. After some discussions I was moved into a King room that was a lot better. Whilst small, it was comfy. I was there on business travel solo so not off out exploring - the hotel is better suited to those who are sleeping there rather then spending time in their rooms. The rooms were very clean, location is great, very central.

« Best bet for short stay »

Although the front facade and lobby are not very impressive, this centrally hotel has everything you need for a convenient, comfortable stay. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was large and very clean. The mini kitchen included sink, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, dishes and utensils. The room had wifi, flat screen TV and A/C. There is a market several doors down from the hotel which allowed for anything you might need for a quick continental breakfast to start your day. The hotel breakfast at $25.00 NZD per person seemed rather expensive. I highly recommend this hotel as it is centrally located to most attractions in Auckland and not overly expensive. Additionally there are coin operated laundry facilities which are a bonus.

    3
    « Good Location. »

The hotel is located in the very center of Auckland. It is not exactly a luxury hotel and is very normal although for the price it was well worth staying there but in other cities for the same price we would have gotten something better. The breakfast was normal but very friendly since they made you at the moment what you wanted. The cleanliness was very good. The area, at the time we went, was under construction and on Saturdays it is very noisy but in the room you can not hear anything.

    4
« Top location and friendly staff »

The Best Western President Hotel has a top location in the center of Auckland. You walk approximately 3 minutes to the sky tower, Queens Street and Victoria Street. To that effect, it's noisy at night but that's understandable. The rooms are simple but equipped with all you need e.g kitchen. If you have any questions or want to book a shuttle or taxi don't be shy and ask for help at the reception. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Perfect for a short term stay.

« In need of an update »

We stayed in a 3 bedroom corner unit on floor 10. The apartment was huge. It has a sitting/dining area off the kitchen and a big screen TV on the desk facing the sofa and 2 chairs. The sofa was in poor condition. It sunk in the middle, in order to sit on it to watch TV, I had to take 4 pillows off the beds to make it reasonably comfortable. The sofa also had a bad odor, a wet dog or worse, smell. With the clean pillows on it, the smell wasn't as bad, however it was still there. The kitchen was fitted with everything you need to cook or heat up food. A full oven and burners, and microwave. There was a dishwasher, clothes washing machine and clothes dryer as well. There was one small bathroom, tub, sink, hairdryer, Kleenex. No bar soap only 1 soap dispenser for shower and sink. Fortunately we travel with our own bar soap and shampoo. There is no fan to vent the bathroom. The three bedrooms had closets to hang clothes, one had an iron and ironing board. There is no where else to put your clothes. There was one nightstand in each bedroom. Fortunately each bedroom had windows. The beds were comfortable. There is only one a/c located in the sitting area. The first night I slept with the windows open, as the air was cool, however around 4:30am the noise from outside woke me. I believe it was bottle recycling. The next night I kept the windows closed and the a/c in the sitting room on. Fortunately it wasn't too warm. There is a big grocery market, Countdown, just a few doors down from the hotel, where we bought wine and snacks. There is a homeless problem in this area, they like to hang out between the market and the hotel. They are not a bother, as they can be in my country, they don't ask for spare change, they just sit there with a cup and rattle it or look at you and smile. I noticed many people gave them food from the market. I did not see the homeless problem in any other part of New Zealand. There were a few dirty people sleeping on cardboard with blankets covering them on Queen St, as well as Victoria. Again, they were not aggressive. Breakfast was included in our rate. It's a good choice of eggs, meat, beans, tomatoes, potatoes, fruits, cereals, pancakes, toasts, pastry, and wonderful New Zealand Apple juice. Every staff member I encountered was gracious, helpful and smiling. Big A+ to the staff. We walked to the water three times while there 2 days. It's not far, perhaps 10 minutes. I fell I received value for money, especially with the breakfast included. Hopefully, the hotel gets new sofa's, they seriously need them.

    « Simple, effective, convenient »

When I was looking some somewhere to sleep that was cost effective but close to the Sky City conference centre the Best Western President was by far the most attractive option. It is a three star hotel but it is five star location. Close and convenient to downtown and the waterfront this simple hotel is effective for that city trip. Staff were very friendly. The only downside that I experienced was the location of power points when using my laptop in the room. But again no big deal for the price I paid.

    4
    « Surprisingly good! »

This hotel is in a great location around the corner from Auckland's main Queen street shopping and less than 15 minutes from the harbour waterside. It has a cramped underground car park accessed off Queen street ($12/24 hours) and a small cafe serving breakfast at an overpriced $14 for a continental breakfast and more for a full English breakfast. Nearby is a convenience store and a better value (and longer queuing!) Countdown supermarket. Also lots of cheap restaurants and fast food outlets close by. Our large L shaped room was a bit tired but had air con, a good shower, a hair drier, a large double bed, a desk, free wi-fi, big screen TV and even had an ironing board. It also had a small kitchen area with a kettle and microwave teabags and coffee, milk, knives and forks, plates and cups and a fridge. Reception were friendly and gave us change to use the laundry rooms ($4 to wash and $2 to dry plus $1 for detergent) which enabled us to wash all our clothes in just over an hour! What lets the place down is the awful 1980's style reception - and frankly the scruffy (but safe) area. Auckland isn't lovely - but the view from the Devenport ferry is nice at sunset - and a visit to Takapuna beach for sunbathing and swimming was fun.

    4
    « Convenient location.... »

The Best Western's best asset is that it was walking distance from so many options in Auckland. Easy to get to, easy to wander from. Welcoming front desk that was full of advice for local places to try out.

    4
    « Practical and functional »

Nothing flashy. Pretty standard. Good location though. Friendly staff. We just needed somewhere to sleep for a night after travelling up for a show and it was great for that, reasonably priced, clean room.

« Good start to the holiday »

This was the first hotel we stayed in and what a good start. Very comfy bed, the room had everything we could want and was perfectly situated. So close to The Sky tower and just a short walk to the harbour. Very friendly staff. Would highly recommend

    3
« Excellent Location in Auckland »

Perfect location for all that Auckland has to offer. The reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a twin room on the 14th floor. Rooms are large clean and have a separate kitchen area which is really useful but overall are a little dated. However we enjoyed our stay.

    3
« Noisy but central location »

I stayed in a 2 bedroom (small) apartment here. Yes it is in the middle of Auckland city which I assume is rare for the apartment. But the rooms could do with some updating and sound-proofing to make it a more enjoyable stay. It has a full laundry inside the bathroom. Bathroom is large but no special amenities. Hairdryer looked ancient and they had one combined liquid soap in shower for body and hair - did not sound good so I bought my own things at Countdown down the road. Kitchen has an oven and stovetop as well as microwave, kettle, full sized fridge with freezer and a set of knives. I only used the fridge/freezer. The fridge somehow froze my sparkling water over night but I'd rather a fridge be too cold than not cold enough. The sound-proofing is shocking, if it has any at all. As soon as I walked in the room I heard the traffic outside, and screaming from people on the giant slingshot ride directly outside the window. You can hear every conversation in the hallways also where the lifts are. Confusingly, the queen bed room is closest to the windows and thus the noise, whereas the single beds are further from the noise. Maybe so kids get to sleep easier I suppose but as an adult it made no sense. The bedrooms were smallish but had built-in robes with full length mirrors. Safe was located in master bedroom. The queen bed was very comfortable, however from just sitting on the single beds in the second room I could tell they were horrible - springy and soft. WiFi was patchy in parts of the room but for the most part was good. Not many power points free in the whole apartment. 2 in dining area; had to unplug alarm clock to charge phone in bedroom; none spare in kitchen. The car park only has 13 spaces and I overheard reception speaking to guests trying to park but spaces being tight. Staff member then called the other guest with car space next to them and asked them to move it slightly, then offered a staff member to do so when the guest (I'm guessing) wasn't confident or willing to do so. The website says there is a loading zone near car park entrance - it is 1 spot with a 5mins limit, and I couldn't find an entrance to the hotel from there (as car park door was down) so ended up giving up and driving around and around again, eventually giving up and dropping the car rental back to the rental office and Ubering back with my luggage. Reception has a mini bar themselves for any individual needs, beer is about $7 and small wine bottles $12. It is much cheaper to go 4 doors down to Countdown and buy what you want. The lobby area has some weird almost enclosed seating, couldn't see the appeal myself and it hid the elevators behind them. Could be a much more inviting foyer area if they removed these and just had a few comfortable chairs. So a few minor issues with this outdated hotel, but it was mostly clean (a cake of soap from previous guest stayed on top of shower frame the entire time) and in a good central location with easy walk to most places. The noise was the biggest issue by far.

    « Good Value »

Stayed one night on the way through Auckland. Excellent check in. Room on the 12th floor had great views of the Sky Tower and Victoria street. Good size bathroom. Very clean. Really nice stay. Booked the $25 option for parking and hotel was helpful on arrival. Good breakfast.

« Hassle free and very nice »

We stayed at the Best Western for a really good price in septemeber, we didn't have too high of expectations but it was really good, large tidy rooms with a nice view, no problems or issues while we there and it is so central, 20 seconds to Queen st, 1 min to the Sky Tower and roughly 5-10 to Britomart/ the Viaduct. Very good value for money!

    3
    « Short Stop Over »

My family booked a trip to New Zealand which included both islands and lots of excursions/sightseeing. The trip took over just under four weeks and the Best Western Presidential Hotel was the first hotel we stayed in (following a 17 hour flight) at the end of January 2018. The staff were very friendly upon arrival and we were able to leave our luggage (which was substantial) in one of their rooms in Reception which was very helpful as it was several hours before we could check in. The room was very spacious and clean and lots of toiletries were provided as well tea and coffee packets in the rooms and a kettle. The cleaning staff were also very friendly. A safe was included in the room. Unfortunately, while AC was provided it didn't seem very functional as the rooms were extremely hot. Also, as the AC was partially located on the outside of the building when it rained - the rain hitting the metal travelled through the vents which was very loud. While the reception area was clean the new sofas they contain are extremely uncomfortable and high backed and felt more like a cubicle - this was uncomfortable as we spent a while in Reception the first day booking in and waiting for our rooms. There is a small and large supermarket located nearby and a car park across from the hotel however, the prices for the car park were very high ($45.00 for under 3 hours). There are lots of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. The harbour is a 15 minute walk away and contains some very nice eating places.

    5
    « Exceeded my expectations. »

I was impressed with my large corner room on the 6th floor which had a lovely view of the skytower. The kingsize bed was very comfy with quality linen as were the towels in the spacious bathroom. The separate shower had good pressure. The location was excellent as only 1 block from the casino with a countdown supermarket next door which was open until 10pm every night and 100 meters from Queen Street. I will definitely stay here again when I visit Auckland next.

    2
    « Room drab - don't have the breakfast! »

Stayed here on two occasions during a 3 week trip of New Zealand. The hotel is situated a little bit down from Auckland's SkyView Tower and is a short walk to the main shopping street, viaduct harbour area and the ferry terminal so centrally located. This hotel doesn't have the look of a hotel from the street and as such does not offer a welcoming feel. It is cited halfway up the street and appears to be squashed amongst a row of shops. When you enter the lobby you first see signs for a solicitors before you see the reception. Immediately in front of reception are booth seating which impact upon the openness of the venue. Low level seating would be much better. Staff are friendly and check in was smooth. For both our visits we had booked what was termed a suite. Do not have expectations that this means comfort! The rooms are soulless and stuffy. The first one room 406 had no real view, well if you craned your neck you might just spy the sky tower! The lounge area if you could call it that was awful a very small two seater bench seat, no arms, and really uncomfortable - it is not somewhere you'd want to have down time. There's a TV, iron and hairdryer for guest use. Bathroom is a small shower cubicle, toilet and sink. The suite has a kitchenette which was effectively a kettle, sink and microwave so not a true kitchenette. There are limited plug sockets for charging things. The suites have a separate bedroom - offering a wardrobe (with about 4 hangers). Bed was ok but bit luxurious. The suite did have air conditioner which is needed in a hot city but this really only cooled the lounge area. The windows have Roman blinds and these appeared drab and old. In addition they didn't block out light. Our second visit we had room 606 so in the same position but higher. This time we got a bit more of a view but nothing to write home about. The sofa in the lounge area was also better. But all the other things were the same. Don't have the breakfast in the venue! Firstly it's over priced. Secondly it's poor quality and thirdly as it's attached to the kitchen you end up smelling like a deep fat fryer with old oil. Not pleasant. I wouldn't stay here again.

« One night for concert »

We were up in Auckland just for one night for concert. We wanted a place to stay that was central and walking distance to concert . Location was great which what we were after . The room was clean and comfortable, but a little out dated . Great room rate all we needed but if staying longer in Auckland would have to think twice about it . Just depends what you are after

    4
    « A pleasant surprise! »

We were passing through Auckland and only stayed one night. The hotel exceeded our expectations, great location with clean and comfortable rooms. Front desk staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The car park is behind the hotel and impossible to find if you don't first speak to the front desk. They will provide you with a map which makes it much easier to locate. There is a supermarket located just 10 meters to the left of the hotel and the room comes with a small kitchenette and fridge/microwave. Bars and restaurants are all within an easy walk. Recommend!

« Best location in Auckland »

Fantastic view of sky tOwer and great location for harbour. Clean room and spacious. Parking easy and reasonable. Staff friendly. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends and family.

    3
« Great if you like retro »

Let's start with the positive; the staff we encountered were friendly and efficient, our room (a two bedroom unit with microwave and sink) was huge, it was clean, the bed reasonably comfortable and had most of the amenities one would expect. The astute reader will sense there is a 'but' and they would be correct. It starts at reception which reminded me of a currency exchange kiosk. Whilst the rooms and corridors appear to be recently painted they must have bought a job lot of grey and off white. There was very little colour in the room apart from a couple of prints and the yellow doors on the kitchen units. If you are into eighties (or perhaps even earlier) kitchen furniture you will love this room, even down to the over engineered wallbracket that supports the microwave. The afore mentioned prints date from 1993 which I suspect when the last major fitting out took place. The (grey striped) carpet will have seen gite a few Christmases! Whist there is an air con unit this is too noisy to sleep with it on and it isn't powerful enought to cool the room. The bathroom is OK although the shelving in the shower reminded me of something you would find in a caravan or motorhome. Also the soap is in a dispenser and whilst functional adds to the old fashioned feeling. The final nail was that the second bedroom was across the cooridor from the lifts which could be easily heard as they operated. To surmise, it was OK for a one night stop but would not be somewhere to encourage me to stay longer. Whist other hotels have upped their game significantly this one has effectively gone backwards against the competition and would benefit from a significant facelift.

    « very satisfactory »

Good location for Auckland access (city, shops, art gallery, museum etc) . Sitting room large with sofa, desk, giant TV screen, etc. Decent bathroom and small kitchen area. Bedroom also spacious. Decor minimal - almost minimalist. Staff helpful and efficient (wake up calls, taxi etc). Free wifi, generally well appointed. Mini-market (open long hours) next door. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Parking could be at a premium but it is offered. A good place to be.

« A good start to our New Zealand trip »

We arrived around 8am in the morning having flown in from the UK. The desk manager (Ankil) was very helpful and let us change and store the bags, and secured an early check in for us. Overall the hotel was very well placed for the centre of Auckland. The room was very spacious and comfortable, although the room and hotel as a whole is just starting to show its age.

    4
    « Good enough »

Only a 3-star, so don't be expecting the Ritz. It is in a decent location for airport transfers and access to the highlights of Auckland. The bed is brilliant, the shower is good. The room is spacious enough. The air-con units are a bit dated but do their job. The reception staff were friendly and helpful so it is all a thumbs up from me.

    « Plenty of room »

We had the bedroom apartment. The room is spacious. Nice kitchen facilities with washing machine and dryer. Located in the city. We didn't have to use any transport. We had a 3yo and he happy to sleep on his own.

    « It's ok »

We used the 2 bedroom apartment, smelled musty. The room that didn't have a window didn't have air conditioning either just a fan. TVs worked fine, WIFI great, clean linen. Didn't use the kettle at all but there is a microwave, no cooking facility but wasn't fussed about it. Bathrooms were tidy with fresh towels but no individually packed soaps or shampoos just a soap dispenser in the shower. I'd recommend taking own toiletries. Safe parking underground easily accessible. This hotel is smoke free which was good. Middle of the city so close to Starbucks, convenience store etc room key was messed up a bit had to get it changed twice.

    « Good location »

I stayed at president because I had a contiki tour leaving from it early. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The corridors were sort of small and mazeish like, and my room had a view of a generator which made a lot of noise at night which made it hard to sleep. The room it self was nice and clean, but my bed had a weird lump/hole/dip in the middle of it. After my contiki tour had finished we returned to the president and even though I was no longer checked in they agreed to store my luggage for a couple hours while I went off with the group before I travelled back to the airport.

« Wonderful stay in Aucland »

I really appreciated the kindness of the staff, a particular thanks to Mr. Ankil . Normally when I travel I choose Best Western , so I can say that President Hotel is one of the best I never found. Quality of the room really excellent , very clean and confortable. Again thank you so much Mr. Ankil.

    « Great location »

Great location to central Auckland and it was a short walk (8 to 10 mins) to the pier as we were boarding our cruise ship. The rooms were clean and tidy . The staff were very helpful as we had to drop of our luggage before we returned our hire car. Just a relaxing walk back to the hotel via the harbor walk.

« Clean and central location »

I just needed this room for a one night stay before my NZ tour. My room was spacious, clean and even had a kitchen area which was a pleasant suprise. The hotel allowed me to check in early, but cost to do this was $30, a little pricey but after 30 hours of travelling I didnt want to wait 5 hours for the 11.30am check in. Next to the hotel there's a little supermarket, you're right next to all of the main shops, skytower and a short walk from the riverfront. Not bad. Rooms have an apartment feel to them.

    « Good trip »

A very good arrival to New Zealand because of a very simpatical crew , beautiful and cosy rooms.Thank you so much for understanding,it was a very good crew and hotel.Very clean , near from the city center. And the crew very cool ,good people, particulary Shalini and Ankil. I recomand this hotel.

    « One night stay »

Location: excellent Room layout: odd, with the kitchen set up so close to the bed, shower & toilet room is rather small, the shelf/TV cabinet set up plus the (kitchen) take up most of the space of the room, bed is average. There has been heavily construction surrounding the area: road works as well as underground transport system, very noisy during the day. The hotel is trying hard to keep this to the minimum disruption to their guests, however the property is not equipped with sound proof technology. We went out when it's noisy & got back late at night to avoid this. Staffs at reception desk were helpful during our stay Overall: a tired hotel that worthy for a update from management board.

« Not Best Western, Eastern, Northern or Southern. And even less ?Presidential'. »

Take note - I will be truthful and the reader can decide... Sometimes you find a hidden gem, a hotel that is trying its hardest with staffing, decor and service to match the best at a decent price. This is not one of those hotels. This is just a rock and definitely not a gem, unfortunately. A rock in a good location, but a rock all the same. I did not expect the best from the hotel, but for the money, far better should have been provided. My ?two star? rating would be a three but for the fact that after considering all my concerns, I re-read some of these poorer reviews and find that all my concerns have been raised repeatedly and no action seems to have been taken! The replies from management on trip-advisor are the same as what I also got from the reception: excuses or explanations but not WHAT WILL BE DONE AND WHEN TO CHANGE AND IMPROVE. An example: the family suite we had was musty and we noticed had little, if any, bathroom air extraction. Reception was informed and I was told, ?It is on a timer?. A timer from the light? The door opening? No - a timer. No information was provided as to when it ?comes on' and at no time could I feel any suction breeze from the air-grate. The shower filled the room with fog so you couldn't shave in the mirror and using the toilet filled the suite with evidence of ones actions! Erk. I note others complaining about this - when will it be fixed?? If the air was actually expelled from the rooms, perhaps the threats about charges for heating odiferous food wouldn't be required?? I asked what time housekeeping was to come and was informed, ?When they finish making up vacated rooms?. Housekeeping came in the late afternoon- great to spend the day with used baby nappies and bins full of rubbish. And due to baby or us having an afternoon nap, sheets were never changed. All housekeeping did was empty bins and add toiletries- no actual cleaning seemed to get done. Easy answer - management needs more employees in the summer holiday season. Speaking of toiletries- don't get me started on the ?saving the environment so limited hot water and body wash/?conditioning shampoo' in a pump' rubbish. It's just cost-cutting. Where is the recycling bin if you are so concerned? The decor was dated. And I don't mean funky or retro... I mean useable but worn. What was most annoying was the couch/fold out bed. Something was likely broken on worn out so the cushions fell down ?in it' and your legs lay against the hard frame at the front- complained about by others but obviously nothing done... when?? Breakfast at a hotel is always a way a place can redeem itself for inadequacies in other areas- not this one. The place had a ?once over wiped clean look' but a second glance revealed greasy looking glasses on display over the ?bar' and bits and pieces in need of a deep cleaning. The bain-marie was at first glance attractive but the food was all cold to lukewarm- dangerously cool temperature. Even the bacon was rubbery and not crisp in the slightest. The orange juice ran out and no one moved to refill it whilst the toasters took ages to work and were simply home-style non-industrial ones that were not up to the demand. I note management states that the homeless that gather at times at the entrance are the fault of the council- I understand that issue but why then is the area left dark and dingy at night?? It is well known that bright lights and classical music repel people from hanging about (used in subways in Europe) so why not brighten it up? You can't just blame others when you leave it inviting. This would also make for better security- the lifts have non so you can just walk in and access whatever floor without a card-swipe... so having an insecure entrance is not a good idea. Anyway. Convenient location but if you can, go elsewhere. You'll survive here but you will feel more like livestock than a paying customer.

« good hole with great service and great location for travelling around Auckland. »

We have travelled to Auckland 4 time sin the past few years and always stay here . the Location is great for getting to see the city and catching planes and trains and ferries and buses to see the sights of this lovely New Zealand city

    « Okay for a short stay. »

Book parking in advance with the hotel if needed as they have limited spaces and you will pay through the nose for Wilson's street parking. Room on arrival was very stuffy and smelt of mushrooms.. we had the 2 bedroom apartment. It was clean and tidy but old and outdated.. there is minimal ventilation. You can open one window only in each room only a fraction so perhaps consider if you like fresh air in your room.. there is no aircon. Bed was comfy enough, shower is tiny.. one at a time, standing room only.. and don't eat too much on your travels as you won't fit!?? This hotel was fine for us as we purely used it for a bed at night and only stayed 2 nights before continuing our travels. Rooms are relatively cheap for families.

    « December in Auckland »

Good central location, parking on site available under cover and secure. Apartment was a good size, rooms good and great customer service. I would recommend breakfast at the hotel restaurant serving cooked and continental choices. Don't bother with the gym, not in order when we visited.

    1
« Stuffing coming out of furniture »

Springs popping our of the bed, stuffing sticking out of a dirty threadbare couch. Should never have rented the room. Offered a 20% discount. Everything was handled poorly by the hotel and by corporate.

« Had to change travel plans last minute and they charged us anyways »

My wife and I were planning to spend a single evening in Auckland, and unfortunately our travel plans changed and we no longer were able to spend the night there. I called in the afternoon to cancel our booking and they told us they were charging us 100% for the night anyways. I'm sure it's in their fine print and all, but I've never in my life been charged for cancelling a reservation in the afternoon day-of. So if the manager wants to try to justify this, let me be clear that my problem is not that you aren't honest about what ridiculous fees you charge, just that you charge ridiculous fees.

    3
    « Central location »

Arrived at 2am after flight delayed, staff were helpful and welcoming. We had a 2-bed apartment with kitchenette. Main room was fine but 2nd room had no window and no air conditioner, so even with the canon full blast it was very stuffy, although outside temperatures were only up to 22deg.

    « I wouldn't stay here if I were President »

We stayed here on a 2 night stay heading back home to Brisbane. The entrance and foyer area was trying to impress the guests but wasn't working. The room had bad smell like 5 years of been unventilated, in which the windows we're sealed off. The breakfast buffet was average and decor looked very tired. The only good thing to say was the room sizes were large and roomy. Not recommended.

« So far so good »

This ugly bagels shop located at Victoria street , Auckland. They are baked everyday so very fresh , good flavour and yummy . Especially I like and recommended KING SALMON - Stewart Island Salmon, Zany Zeus cream cheese, red onion, capers, dill, lemon juice $ 14.0. Try and taste it . They sell normal bagels too . I think price is expensive but why not try 1st and then ask yourself why price is so expensive ? Yummy and delicious !

    « Good Central Location »

We stayed here for its cental location as it is very close to bus stops, supermarket & the Sky Tower. The Britomart Train station is about a 15 minute walk. The service was excellent. The only blemish that is out of the hote'ls hands is the beggars who park up just down the road outside Countdown Supermarket

    5
« Wonderful staff and rooms »

We stayed only for one day but the staff was so welcoming and cooperative, advised us on parking, etc. We were traveling with kids they were very accommodating in it...Special thanks to Shalini and Lisa at the front desk.

« Standard Best Western in ideal location »

Rating for Corporate Studio King. The room had a comfortable bed and pillow for good night's sleep. There was a stand that held two suitcases. The kitchenette was well equipped and a grocery store is close by. The Wi-Fi had good bandwidth. The window A/C could not distribute the cool air evenly. It was cold near the A/C, at the desk, but warmer at the bed. Room is well lighted. There is minimal counter space in the bathroom. The room was compact. The Skybus stops from and to the airport are within a short walking distance.

    4
    « centrally located »

The comfort of the Hotel is average, the rooms are Standard and clean, the personel is friendly and helpfull. The Hotel is very well located with a 5 min walk you are right in the middle of the City Center.

    4
    « All About Convience »

At first the reception doesn't look that crash hot, but the room is value for money. With friendly but obviously overwhelmed staff (they need a bigger reception and more than 4 staff on), we checked in. Elevator takes longer than the skytower elevator (lol) but our room was reasonably clean and big. Has separate rooms for the bedroom/bathroom/living room kitchen. Thought it was stranger there was a specific 'toaster room' rather than just giving a us a toaster. A part from that the location was super convenient, and it was pretty quiet at night

    2
« Probably the worst hotel I have stayed in. »

Auckland was our last stop on a tour of south and north islands. Such a shame that this hotel was such a let down. The room was clean but that's the only positive. A 2 double bed unit for 4 adults with 1 bed in the lounge/kitchen and the other in dark room with no window. The shower room was tiny and the water pressure not good. The airless room proved to be a bigger problem at night as it backed onto the lift area and sounded as if you were trying to sleep in a subway station. Our upgrade the following day (for which we paid) gave better living area but again an airless room backing onto lift area.

    1
    « very noisy »

hotel is very centrally located, rooms are a bit old-fashioned but ok, beds are much to soft, biggest problem: windows are about zero sound-protecting. Music from Amusement center across the street was as loud as being in the room. would never come back here

    3
    « CONVENIENT LOCATION »

A good nights sleep. Friendly staff. The breakfast was fairly standard for $20.00 but the kitchen made me very nice eggs to order along with the buffet cooked breakfast. Very handy for downtown business meetings.

    « Convenient, but . . . »

Stayed here twice in November for our first and then our last nights in New Zealand. Convenient location just a block of Queen Street but access is difficult given construction of light rail outside these premises. Room was clean and of a good space with a kitchenette included. Reception service was good and the only downer is that the hot water service in the bathroom is timed and cuts out after 15 minutes with a 45 minute wait for it to reheat. At $194 a night this was disappointing.

    4
« Good value for money, centrally located and very comfortable »

Good all round experience. The room was spacious, clean and well furnished. The staff went out of their way to accommodate my needs. The Hotel is centrally located which is ideal, however there is limited parking on the street outside.

we had a 2 bedroom apartment was fantastic kitted out with everything you need from cooking to washing. washing machine was a little difficult to operate but otherwise fine. very spacious and clean rooms

« Good value in downtown. »

Spacious, clean rooms, with a/c and free Wi-Fi that work, and helpful staff in a central downtown location. Construction activity in front of hotel made moving luggage in/out of hotel difficult. Yes, some noise heard inside rooms, but not unusual for that location. Breakfast buffet good, not great. Many good restaurants available within a few blocks. A good place to recover after a long flight.

« Great staff, clean and convenient! »

Was taken by surprise by the standard of the hotel. It was clean, spacious and was in a superb location. So convenient and even next to a huge supermarket! Was initially sceptical and worried due to some bad reviews but did not regret my choice of hotel. The staff are very well trained and friendly, even better than higher rated hotels. Liz was especially helpful with our luggage during our check out. Overall, well worth the money!

    « Don't expect to sleep. »

Couldn't believe the noise around this hotel . Convenient location but comes at a price unfortunately.the staff were friendly and helpful ,the hotel is dated and could do with an upgrade . So much outside noise may for a bad night and felt Ike crap the next day.

Modern, clean, tidy and spacious. Plenty of room to move around. Nice bathroom with decent extras. Shower wasn't cramped and had good water pressure. Comfortable bed, lots of natural light and good wifi.

Our room was very suitable for two colleagues or two travelers. Everyone has their own privacy but they can easily communicate and discuss everything for next day. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly.

    « Friendly and clean »

Staff were friendly and helpful, room was set out well, nice and clean and quiet, loved being able to open a window for fresh air as so many hotels tend to be stuffy. Would recommend a stay only problem we had was access can be tricky due to road works so a warning prior maybe helpful

    « Location »

Hotel located at the best location. Near to the sky bus stop and closed to the bustling area of queen st where many shops and restaurants around. Although you can find out many homeless staying in front of the hotel but they seem not doing harm to us. Hotel staffs were friendly and helpful. The reception lady upgraded my room to a bigger room. The room was spacious, clean and tidy although a little bit old but overall are ok. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom was ok but no amenities given. Water pressure was good and response was quick to turn to hot water. The problem was heater not functioning well, thanks to the weather not too cold at that time.

« Basic hotel in Auckland CBD »

The Best Western President Hotel is located right in the centre of Auckland CBD within walking distance to major attractions and transportation. It is a basic 3-Star hotel for the sole purpose of spending the night in Auckland. The rooms are small and have individual air conditioning units. Breakfast is served in the small cafe in the hotel. There is currently some road works going on outside the hotel so the surrounding area can be a bit crowded. There were a number of homeless people camping outside the shops on both sides of the hotel. But there's nothing to worry. The area is safe.

    3
« Good budget rooms close to everything »

This was good value for money. Clean, Air conditioned rooms and a decent size. It is only a couple of minutes walk to Sky Tower and plenty of restaurants around. Easy to get the Hop On Hop Off bus and travel around Auckland. Make sure you book parking as it is very limited and car parks are small and tight. It costs $25 a day. There was only an on-site restaurant for breakfast but plenty close by for other meals. There was also a convenience store right next door.

    « Our 2nd visit here »

We stayed here a year ago on our first trip to NZ and have just stayed again for 2 nights on arrival from the UK, our 2nd visit to NZ. So, yes, it is in a very noisy area with a lot of roadworks going on outside and late night party goers etc but a good pair of ear plugs will see you straight! We returned here because we enjoyed the closeness of everything, the Skytower is just up the road and the shops and harbour a few minutes walk away. I guess also, this place was where it all started for us in NZ over a year ago and it was just lovely to be here again. Sure, there will be nicer/quieter/better hotels in Auckland but we like it. If we came back again, we'd stay here again!

    3
« Expensive for a very average hotel »

Don't expect too many luxuries from this Hotel. It is very central, the room was very clean but that was it. I asked for a room at the back of the hotel and not near the elevator and they put me next to the elevator and roadside! LOL. The shower ran hot and cold and the soap was a fixed wall dispenser. It's ok, but quite expensive for what it is.

    2
    « 2 days and a concrete saw »

This was a last minute decision for us and it was not ideal. The construction warranted a room discount and not just a note slipped under the door. The Bums on the street and sitting right outside the entrance were less than inviting. Oh and it stated it had a gym but we tried to see it and our key would not work.

    2
    « Overpriced »

We booked in, thinking it was the same value as Best Western in Australia. We were wrong. Firstly in a part of Auckland that gave me the creeps. I wouldn't walk around on my own there. Room OK, thought we were getting a queen or king room, but had two singles pushed together. Facilities were clean but need an upgrade. Just not right for us. Wouldn't stay here again.

    3
« Average, location only plus »

Great on location, average on everything else. Check in is poor, had to wait an hour to get the room despite reaching the hotel at 3pm. Room size is good, however decor and furniture is old. Certainly, one could give ?view out of the window' a miss here. Our room was located on the 6th floor and at 3pm for both nights we could here some noisy unloading/loading sounds. Management should look into this. In room facilites were good,no complains there. Reception area is poor and lacks space. There was construction work going on outside the main door. No parking facilities available. Staff was good and helpful. One would think of having overpaid for this place for sure. Perhaps, location should be the singlemost deciding factor if you chose to stay in this hotel. I

« Old, out dated and over priced »

I booked a night here for my wife and myself through AGODA and was forced to change dates as a result of unforeseen circumstances. Agoda were great, best western forced me to ?upgrade? to a suite for an extra $300!!!!! Was nothing suite about the room and for $450 for the night I was no impressed.

    2
« Noisy and with ants »

The Hotel is in a great location but thats about all of its redeeming features. First of all there were ants. Ants in the kitchen and when we woke up ants in the bed! Considering we were 11 stories up I was surprised. Ants dont scare me but I would rather not have to sleep with them. Everything was tidy but it just didnt feel clean. Couch could do with a good steam clean as could the bathroom. The big thing was that there is no double glazing so there is not noise reduction from the outside world and boy is it loud. Sleeping at night was difficult as it was like sleeping with all of the windows open. Every car noise, people talking (11 stories down), sirens, airconditioning units from other apartments, drunk people......everything could be heard. Ive never stayed in a motel with so much noise because of cheap windows not blocking sound. etc.

  • 1
« Poor service, poor rooms for the price paid »

We reached at the hotel one hour after the check-in time and our room was still not ready. When asked the reception, they said they can not guarantee of making the room in another hour. We booked for a king size bed and in the middle of the night my husband fell in between the gap of two single beds which were made to look like a king bed. Room was shabby and worse than a motel. It was very noisy and we were almost up all the night.

    4
    « City centre location »

This city centre hotel looks a little tired from the outside and the lobby isn't the most inspiring but the staff go out of their way to do all they can for you. The rooms were very clean and linen changed everyday. Frank skinner had clearly taken his ukulele and vacated room 101 which led off the fireescape around the back. There was no view other than the adjacent carpark which burst into life along with the service elevator every morning around 6:30am other than that it was a event room . We didn't partake of the breakfast which we felt was a bit steep at $25 but food prices are high in this part of the city. Hotel is within 500 yards of the iconic sky tower.

« Loud, lies and lousy »

I was booked here twice in three weeks for the Lions Tour but this hotel really disappointed. First off was the $150 deposit request. The first room we had was on the top floor which was acceptable. However when my colleague put his cigarette packet and used butts into the bin, the hotel made a false accusation of us of smoking in the room (which we hadn't) and tried to fine us $250. The evening we found that, we went to reception to be told the manager wasn't in and no-one could deal with it until the next day. When we did get hold of him the day after, he showed us pictures of the bin which showed no evidence of smoking and he had to back off from the threat of fining us. The next time we stayed we were on the 6th floor. However they neglected to mention to us that building work started loudly at 3:30 in the morning which woke us up (I assume we were too high up last time to know). After the last test, we asked to buy beer at the reception but was told there was no one licenced to serve us on the premises which I thought was annoying as they knew they had Lions fans staying there. The breakfast room was small and often seemed to run out of eggs quickly and very slow to replace them. The TVs in the rooms were very slow to turn on and often we had to call reception to get them to reset it. In all, I advise against staying here for a good nights sleep or if you have a smoker in your party.

    « Comfy and affordable »

Nice little hotel in the middle of Auckland. Close to shops, bars and restaurants. Did offer unlimited free wifi which was exellent. The rooms were clean and well presented. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful.

« Great place and close to everything »

We have been at this hotel for about 3 times and always had a pleasant experience. The staff is very helpful and rooms are always clean and tidy. It is so close to everything and you get transportation from the street anywhere you want to go in Auckland. Also close to metro station and all restaurants bars supermarkets and great shopping places around. Only critic is if they can confirm when booking room if you are getting a room on top floors or on bottom floors it would be awesome as some people might like to stay on top to get a view of sky tower and city. But over all an awesome experience and will visit back again.

    4
« Great location, incredible price »

I almost did not consider this hotel as it was priced well below other hotels in the vicinity. I thought there must be an issue. Was pleasantly surprised by the great room, proximity to grocery, souvenir shop and attractions. Staff were all friendly. This is a great find

    « great stay »

We booked a room last minute and were pleasantly surprised, got a great discount. We stayed in a triple room , the room was large and spacious. A little bit of an issue to find parking at first as there are major roadworks going on directly outside the hotel, we were directed to the car park round the back which was helpful. A nice buffet brekie was included in the price and staff were friendly and helpful. Cant beat the location , a few minutes walk from sky city/bars/cafes/restaurants/liquor store/supermarkets etc would definitely stay again.

It's a great central Auckland CBD location, easy to find. the room I had booked totally suited to what I needed even just for a 2 night stay, the staff were very friendly & helpful. I totally recommend this hotel & would be my 1st option when I stay in Auckland again

    « Unfriendly Staff »

Reception staff couldn't care less about their customers, Beggars outside the hotel were very rude and drunk! When asked if there was a back entrance (because the kids were terrified to walk past the awful people outside) the staff said no sorry you'll have to use the front door. Just not impressed with the hotel, very expensive to stay.

    « Safe and Central »

This Best Western is in a great location about 10 minutes from Britomart Station and the waterfront and directly opposite the SkyTower. Rooms are spacious and well appointed, they are clean and I always felt safe. It's relatively modern, but the rooms do lack "warmth" and are pretty bland. Beds are comfortable, linen is clean, and the staff are very helpful. There is a supermarket right next door which is convenient. While there are homeless people nearby they are harmless, friendly, and it is no way a reflection of the hotel or city (other reviewers have mentioned this and I wanted to dispel this as an issue for not staying at this hotel). I would stay here again.

Location is good, very near queen street and sky tower. But its difficult to find the hotel. Railway construction is blocked the hotel entrance. But the room is spacious, even we are three adults to stay.

« All in all, not great. »

Location is very central but outside there is so much construction work going on so its very busy and grubby. Shower was good, great pressure which is hard to find in NZ. Room was equipped with microwave and kettle with tea/coffee sachets, very handy. Bed was made of 2 singles pushed together, which I understand is fairly common practise however made for a very uncomfortable and restless nights sleep as one of us kept rolling onto the wooden board separating the beds, not comfy at all. Room had a view on to a building wall and was very grubby. Fridge was loud and whirred through the whole night, couldn't turn off due to having small freezer in it. Staff were pleasant enough but not very friendly, quite impersonal. Would not rush back.

    « Not happy »

The presence of the homeless out the front of the hotel is disgusting. There was spew and rubbish everywhere including them smoking drugs. We were staying as a family group and we found this very intimidating and unsatisfactory. We also had to move rooms due to hot water not working which was fine but the time it took to sort out the issue and amount of times we had to go to reception to sort the problem cut in to valuable family holiday time.

« Good hotel if you don't need any sleep! »

Positives: Spacious apartment. Good quality linen and beds comfortable. Good water pressure and enough hot water. Great helpful staff. Very central. Clean apart from stove top and heater in bathroom. Good breakfast. Negatives: Not great wifi. Very uncomfortable couch - definitely needs replacing. We hardly had any sleep - terrible noise from music and party goers that went on almost all night on both nights. So loud it felt like the bedroom window was open. Which it wasn't. Definitely could do with soudproofing. There's also a gap in the window in the main bedroom that lets cold air through. That is probably also the reason for the excessive noise. The total lack of sleep is the only reason for the low score.

    « Good size room »

Stay in a two bedroom room. Beds and pillows were extremely hard-husband liked it, me not so much. Heating is good. Internet was too slow Nice clean and tidy Great room, especially for the price. Location is great with a supermarket right next door. Lots of restaurants close by also. Parking is $25 a day. Homeless people sit out the front. So unfortunately I wouldn't stay here again.

« Central location, close to Civic »

Stayed with my mother and daughter as we were up for Matilda! Rooms were clean and big, breakfast was average but fine for a piece of toast and some fruit! Easy to walk to the Civic and restaurants! Road works made it very hard to access in the rain.

    « A very good eco-luxury hotel. »

We had driven from Palmerston north NZ to Auckland. It is mandatory to book a parking at this hotel because the parking is not available anywhere outside the hotel. The room is extremely nice, very clean and tidy. All the facilities are available. The only thing that turned me a bit off was the front desk staff during my checkout in the morning. The lady didn't know how to read the booking details and kept insisting me to pay extra for something that I already paid online. A bit of arrogant attitude till you raise a bit of vocie and tell them what to do. Overall, I was very satisfied with the hotel, room and everything.

« the pros and cons »

i booked the room for two nights but i only stayed for half a night as i was out mostly. however, i enjoyed my short stay in the hotel and the room was so spacious and clean and comfortable. however, it would be much better if the shower temprature was warmer and i felt a bit cold.

    « Extremely Pleasant Stay! »

Surely we will stay at this Hotel again when we come to Auckland again in July next year, we have fully enjoyed our stay here, the service provided by the Hotel was beyond our expectation, we were really Happy!

    « Dated but Clean »

Stayed at this hotel on business but paid for a separate room for stepdaughter. Hotel has major roadworks outside due to light rail works so difficult to get to. Amenities are very dated in the hotel and there is only 15 minutes of hot water for the room with a wait of up to 60 minutes until the electric heater produces more!. Room was clean and of a good size (the only real plus). Won't stay here again. Family concur with this assessment.

    4
    « Clean decent place »

The place was central, ok valet carpark at the back, it was clean, enough hot water for 4 adults despite what we have read before. Customer service was good. The beds were maybe on the smaller side despite being a single. It was smaller than a normal single bed at home in a NZ house. It may have a good score, I think this reflects on what the residents have said for what it is and for the price paid. It is a Best Western so there is no in fridge snacks etc, the beddings are not your 4 star hotel.

    « Lovely stay »

Very convenient location in CBD. I was welcomed by the lovely staff at the reception when I checked in. Was offered wifi connection on the spot without having to ask! The room is extremely tidy and clean.

    « 2 Years Later »

We stayed here in 2015 and returned again due to location and great deal. Rooms are still average and need love. Reception staff are amazing as always. Especially the night attendant on 11/8 at 2am who was wonderfully helpful and informative. We had breakfast included which had a decent variety and all tasted great. WiFi is now for multiple devices which is a great upgrade!

It's Horrible start, with no of people stay in the room, extra charge for kids....after solving that we went to the new room after we were travelling for almost 20 hours we were sleeping and suddenly someone open room with key.. we got scared it was a major security breach., i went to reception they were making excuses about system make mistake and give a wrong key... that's totally lie... i was about to call the police... but the manager apologize ....but next time i would not be preferred anyone about this hotel.

« Helpful and Friendly staff & Great Location »

I am writing to say thank you to the Hotel staff for making our stay in your Hotel so easy and enjoyable. Every staff member on the front desk and in the restaurant was friendly and helpful. I can't remember all their names, but the names I did recall from our stay William (restaurant), Romeo (at front desk), Mary and Yang, were particularly helpful. Our primary purpose was to compete in the NZ Top Badminton teams competition, Wisden Cup. We came 4th out of the top 6 Teams in NZ. This is the best result ever for Wellington North Badminton Asson. Your Hotel helped us in our quest, in providing us a great environment to sleep, relax & prepare for our competition, your Restaurant gave us great breakfasts, your room facilities enabled us to cook meals when we wished, and get our playing gear washed and dried, wifi internet helped with sanity/work/homework. The great location in the CBD, and the proximity to Shopping, restaurants, bars, takeaways, Supermarkets, and transport systems, meant team members also had a variety of experiences to enjoy their down time from Competition. Many thanks Best Western President Hotel !! Cheers, TL.

« Was a bit concerned about staying after reading reviews ... »

After booking this hotel for 2 nights I was feeling quite concerned after seeing all the negative reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean spacious and great value for money. The location was great and bed was comfy. Even though we were right in the centre of town there was no noise keeping us awake. The staff were friendly enough too. The only downside would be some of the characters loitering around the front which were quite intimidating. Would be ideal if the hotel had some kind of outside area where you could go to avoid being out by the main entrance on the steet. Also the fact you only had 15 mins of hot water in the shower wasn't ideal. But over all for a budget accomodation I think it's good and would recommend in the future. Please don't be put off by all you read on here, it's not bad at all :)

« Disappointing from start to finish »

Quite why the Best Western chain calls this a hotel was not disclosed to me during my recent stay. The experience was so bad that it resembled Fawlty Towers - without the comic humour. I booked five weeks ago through my trusty online wholesale service, but a colleague warned me to check the booking during the day. "Sorry sir we do not have anyone staying here of that name this evening". So eventually I rebook - although at that point I am concerned I have paid twice (will come back to that). Arrive early evening, waiting, waiting, waiting, check in. Room Level 1, overlooking Victoria Street, this will be a challenge. Head to dinner, back in at 2015, step over the homeless, through the hookers, run the gauntlet of smokers and more to get through the lobby. Finally hitting the sheets - long day that started at 0430 in the lower North Island. Wake at 0100, cars, drags, burnouts, people, shouting - a right royal circus we have in Auckland on a Wednesday night. Grab a brew, reach for the heater (a relic from the 1960s) - Houston we have a problem. I have a choice between warmth or sleep. I can only think the heater was designed to screen out the noise from the street! Finally, sleep about 0240. Wake, shower, pack and hit the lobby at 0650. "Sir, we need to debit your credit card for the movie". WTF! My brilliant response was, "I didn't know that there was an additional charge for watching the news on TV at 0600". "No Sir, the movie". There is a point in time when my patience expires, and I could sense that moment fast approaching. After an increasingly heated exchange I hope that I managed to dissuade the lobby staff that a) I had not watched a movie; and, b) I would never be coming back. Our group's collective experience was a shambles ranging from no booking, to two nights, to the wrong night - we were all staying on the same one night. I am now sifting through receipts, online bookings, and waiting to watch my credit card transactions with intrepidation. The best advice I can provide is find somewhere else - Auckland has great places to stay, in the CBD or on the North Shore. I can't for the life of me think of any consumer group or guest segment to which this establishment would appeal. Budget conscious? Then stay at a backpackers or the 'Y'. Yes, this was a corporate booking and it is their last.

    « Very helpful staff »

We arrived very late at night after a long day of travel. We were also leaving at 5am the next morning for a flight. The gentleman who checked us in on the night desk was very helpful and friendly andhelped make a long day easy. he organised a taxi for our pick up the next morning and stored ourr bags to save taking to room. There was three of us traveling and we had a two bedroom room - very clean and comforatble and if we had been staying longer - a great location.Would definatley stay there again.

« Great location and nice rooms »

The hotel is located in a great spot. Close to the sky tower and places to eat. Its only a 10 minute walk down Queen street to the Via Duct. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff were accommodating, friendly and on the ball. The only negative was the toilet struggled to flush properly and there was a bit of pipe noise when someone was running the water. Not a faulty of the hotel but there tended to be a number of homeless people loitering out the front.

« Good hotel for solo traveller »

I was visiting from the UK and this hotel was an excellent location. Some construction works so was a little loud at times. I didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but it seemed overly priced. Location was excellent though.

    « Great location »

Great location within walking distance of all the major sites. Clean rooms and quite spacious. No noise even though there's a lot of works going on in the Main Street outside. Very friendly and helpful staff. Will stay again when next we return.

« Over Charged on Parking »

I did not end up staying here as they tried to charge me $50 a night parking, not the advertised $25. As I had booked through Booking.com I had to pay for the first night as I could not cancel the rest of the stay and stay the first night, without first paying for the whole stay. The whole experience was unpleasant. There were roadworks directly outside, I could not get hold of anyone and when I eventually found where to enter the carparking and managed to intercom someone I had to park my car on the road and go inside first. All in all would not recommend or ever stay here. No customer service.

« Nice rooms, but other things need to be improved »

Had a lovely nights sleep in the room, which was comfortable, quiet and well equipped. However I feel a few other services need to be worked on. Reception staff were friendly but clearly overworked and hence queues were outrageously long at peak times of the day like around check out and check in. The breakfast was fine, but again the chef was massively over worked and so breakfast came out in small interrupted portions and so it was impossible to have a full portion on one plate. Otherwise nice hotel

« Great location - Room gets the job done! »

The location is great! Walking distance to Sky Tower, Viaduct and great eating and drinking spots. The team at the Hotel were nice and courteous, but definitely not above and beyond. My room was large and although the lounge area was large, it felt very empty. As i walked in, it felt a bit shabby but just to sleep in and keep your bags it gets the job done. Unfortunately the heater was an electric heater and only in the lounge area. If left on for long enough, this will heat up the bedroom as well. There was a constant knocking sound from the heater which kept on going off even after i switched it off and this combined with the noise coming in from the road and nearby nightlife (i guess the windows aren't sound proof) it made it very hard to sleep. Keeping in mind i was here on a Friday night, the day before a huge rugby game which had the city sold out,

    « Pleasant stay-Perfect location »

Our stay in Auckland was surprisingly nice. A trip that started to be a short 3-day stay turned into a 5-day visit (due to airline schedule change). The hotel is centrally located in the city very close to SkyCity (1 block) and the waterfront (3 blocks). There was construction in front of the hotel making drop-off and pick-up with bags a bit of pain but otherwise no problems. Breakfast is fantastic! The staff were were very accommodating and professional. The internet was good but limited to one device per login code. I didn't use the gym but did use the guest laundry facilities on the 5th floor which were in need of some TLC. Our room view (1st floor) was less than desirable (an inside building wall) but otherwise a very nice room although we had a tiny bathroom with no counter space and a small shower stall. I recommend this hotel for any visitor looking for a comfortable hotel with easy access to downtown and public transportation. We used SuperShuttle to/from the airport.

« ripped off in central auckland »

disgusting...rooms arent made to request and then all the hidden extra charges...staff were clueless and rooms stunk. We asked for singles to be made into queens ...not done...aircon stinks when on needs cleaning of filters and they charged us for clock damage which is a complete lie ,we saw the damage on arrival...totally hopeless never stay here.

    « Central Location »

So we booked this hotel as it had a family room available for us. This meant two bedrooms one king bed and two singles perfect. Two bathrooms and a kitchenette in the middle. The room was of a decent size for what we were looking for, a one night stay. I wouldn't have wanted to stay for much longer but it was ok all the same and especially for the price. The staff on reception were friendly and there were plenty of towels etc for all of us. For a cheap central location its good although there is no parking for the hotel but a car park across the road. If you get one of the front rooms the view of the sky tower is cool. Check out was efficient. That's about all really. pays ya money takes ya chance. Just don't expect the Hilton on a penny budget.

    « Noisy Lifts »

The Best Western President Hotel in Auckland was clean and neat, the big bed was comfy and the bathroom more than adequate. The staff were pleasant and friendly. Being in the city provided us with cafes, supermarkets and shopping but over-all our stay was a bit a disappointing. Prior to our trip to NZ I confirmed that we had a 2-night booking with a very late 6am arrival (landed the next morning from Oz), unfortunately upon arrival we found that reception had cancelled our booking as we didn't arrive the previous day. This was a bit disconcerting after a 6-hour flight but they did find us a room where we could crash for a while and then freshen up. Our room was next to the lift well which was very noisy. It sounded like we were next to a skate park. We have stayed in city hotels before and appreciate that cities can be noisy at night but the lift noise was very distracting. I don't think we'll be staying there again.

    « Won't be back »

Had an overnight charge to my credit card for more than the amount I was informed of (have since organised a refund). Terrible customer service, no one smiled or greeted us. We just had papers slapped in front of us and asked to sign. When we were checking out there wasn't even anyone at the counter (we were told there would be) we hung around for a bit but then had to leave to catch a flight. Blinds were broken and had to sleep with them partially open, they were full of dust and dirt. Overall just a disappointing experience

« Good clean rooms & handy location »

Chose this property as it was close to a function we were attending. Room was spacious considering it had a kitchenette and it was all very clean (grout in shower whiter/cleaner than the Sebel!). Was a bit shocked the receptionist came knocking at the door at 9.55am to hurry us along, I know 10am is the check out time and we were gathering our bags when they knocked but the cleaning staff were not waiting in the hall to do our room so thought this was a bit rough.

« Bring your own shampoo »

Amazing location! We had a view of the sky tower and it was beautiful to watch it change through out the day and night. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room itself was set up well, but the bathroom needed some attention. There were cracks in the roof and only soap dispensers were provided. This is the first time we have stayed in a hotel without a shampoo and conditioner provided. The soap dispensers made it feel clinical rather than relaxing. We weren't bothered by the price because we could walk everywhere and it felt clean enough. Although, the Restaurant should be avoided all together. It was $50 for very cheap food both in look and taste. That was not value for money at all! We also tried to get room service twice, but were told it wasn't available. Although it is mentioned in their advertising. We also couldn't get the movie packages in the room due to technical issues. This hotel wasn't overly bad, but we wouldn't stay again because it come down to one ultra annoying experience with the shower. Aside from the clinical feeling with the soap dispenser. The shower itself was like standing under a leaking tap! You could barely get your hair wet! And you only had 15 minutes in which to get hot water before it was restricted. If you are going on vacation and need a relaxing place to stay, this is not the place for you.

    « Below Average »

Hotel should really be 2 star. Poor value for money. Room smelled of damp. Bathroom hadn't been thoroughly cleaned (hair and hair slides on floor tiles). Very noisy as construction work for buildings outside (significant works for 12-24 months I'd say) but no warning on website. Very average and certainly not worth the €. Just paying for downtown location. WiFi unreliable for voice calls

« Excellent Location, needs remodelling... »

Best: location is great. In the heart of Auckland CBD, within walking distance of main attractions and transportation. Cons: the building is old. Rooms are clean and confortable but needs some remodelling.

    3
    « Fine for a short stay! »

The location of the Hotel in the centre of a bustling restaurant and shopping district is very stimulating. Unfortunately the inner city railway construction is taking a toll and there is often extra noise and dust etc... during the day. The Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful, though - and we could very much enjoy our overnight stay.

« Great Location and very simple room »

The Hotel located next to Sky Tower and casino. It is very convience to walk everywhere. Supermarket is next door. Room is clean. The reception was very helpful with recommend winery day trip . It was fun. The house keeping knocking your door and asking for check out at 10:00 a.m. no one call in advance. Have problem with airport transfer because i didn't book 9 hours in advance. I have to walk 2 Km to book the Sky bus but finally i took sky taxti who drop the guest from the airport much more easier.

    « Great location »

The hotel is not bad, needs some renewals. The bed in the double room is too small. The bathroom is large but kinda dark. The location is awesome but there is some construction on the street so you can not park in frond of the hotel right now. So it´s kind of hard to move if you have a big bag. The rooms have good sizes, not small at all.

    5
« Great staff and value »

The reception staff ( possibly Li?) was so pleasant and accomodatiing when I had left my room key in my jaclet in the car. The rooms are large and clean. The shower was good. The bed was a little hard - fine or me - but some might want it a bit softer. I had a room on the street side but didnt hear any traffic noise. A really good value Hotel.

    « Good Stay »

My family and I had a one night stay in November 2016. The hotel rooms appeared a bit old and could use a little updating. The location was good for getting around by foot, but it was very hard to get to by car due to the construction of the underground/subway system that is ongoing. We had to be dropped a block away and walk with all our luggage.

    « Welcoming staff »

Great place for our 2 night stay in Auckland, location was perfect for what we wanted (everything we wanted was walking distance) upon arrival we were greeted by two young staff members who were very helpful and happy to chat. Room, linen and towels were excellent. Overall very happy with the place itself but the service at the front counter was the most memorable.

    « Good Hotel »

After a long flight from San Francisco, I was very pleased to check into this Best Western Hotel. « Relaxing weekend »

It's got to be one of the cleanest hotels around the room is comfortable, so so clean bed is lovely, staff are a delight, it's in the heart of the city but close to everything. Will use again, the rooms have little kitchens supermarkets us close by, TV is also in the room the breakfast is amazing and the hotel also offered a shuttle Bus service from airport to hotel, you can rebook to return to airport. In all a very very stress free stay.

« Great location but very noisy street »

This hotel is very near the Sky Tower approximately 150 meters. The supermarket is next to the hotel. We walked to the harbour areas approximately 3 blocks away. The breakfast was good. This hotel pre-authorities your credit card and it takes a few business days for the reversal. We wrote to them whilst travelling to get the reversal done. This is not the case with other hotels we stayed at in New Zealand. Whilst it is no fault of the hotel....it is unfortunately situated in a noisy area - loud noise from the street, a club close by with very loud music, vehicles passing and stopping with very loud music. For the 2 nights that we stayed here we could only start a peaceful sleep after 2am.

    1
    « Unbearably noisy »

We stayed here for one Saturday night in early March and it was very unpleasant. The hotel is in the centre of Auckland nightlife, and the noise was awful. Until the early hours of the morning there was shouting, squealing and screaming from the people having a night on the town or going on the fairground ride opposite our window. When that died down in the early hours then the revving of engines started and carried on for a few more hours. That was like being on the set of a Fast and Furious film. It may be different in the week, but don't stay here on a Saturday night if you want to sleep.

    « Holiday »

Hotel is opposite the casino in the centre of town. There is abit of a hill to walk up to the hotel if on foot. The staff were friendly and very helpful We were on the first floor at the back of the hotel , The room was small but clean and tidy-had to put cases on floor as no room to put them anywhere else.I think there are larger rooms but the studio rooms are small

    « Don't Believe Website Pictures »

I had reserved a King Executive Suite based upon pictures and a description on the BW website and other travel websites. When I arrived, I was not placed in a room that remotely resembled the pictures. The room did not have a king size bed as pictured. Furnishing was old and the rooms were incredibly small and much smaller than shown. The carpet was old, the bed sagged and the room was in a need of an update. When I raised an objection with the hotel, all I got was argument from desk clerks about bed size. I was finally placed into a room that looked like the pictures. It was not without great difficulty. The hotel staff was never courteous or helpful. One other thing is that the hotel does provide free internet (because BW requires it) but it is only for one device. The hotel charges for additional devices. I will obviously not stay at the Best Western President again.

    « Excellent Location! »

We had a 2 night stay and found the room we stayed in excellent with views on 2 sides towards the Skytower and Queen Street (had a corner room). The kitchenette was good to have also. We were central to everything which was easy to walk around to. To get to the carpark was a little confusing, but I think this was because of the work going on to install an underground train system by the Council and roads were blocked etc, but we got there with the instructions on the hotel's website. We enjoyed our stay.

« Good Value near Cruise Port »

We booked the two bedroom suite with two bathrooms for our group of 4. Hotel is in a good location, on bus route with many restaurants and shopping. The Sky Tower is two blocks up the street and the cruise port 5 to 10 minutes away. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable and included a very nice complimentary breakfast and free wifi for two devices. They will store your luggage for free either before or after your check in/out times. The hotel is embedded between the shops so you have to look carefully to find it. It's a good location and price and would highly recommend it for a short stay while in Auckland.

    « Great location »

We have stayed in family apartment for 4 nights. 2 of them I could not sleep as it was weekend and our windows were looking at Victoria street - people did not sleep all night. « Nothing Presidential about this Hotel. Should not be called a Hotel! »

Stayed for 2 nights . Worse hotel I've ever stayed in !!!. Not welcoming. The room was okay. Bed not particularly comfortable. The kitchenette had various notices on the walls about what you could not do !!! The bathroom had a notice saying you got 15 minutes of continuous hot water so to use it wisely !!! as it took a further 45 minutes to re heat. What sort of hotel limits your hot water !! The so called toiletries provided were via fixed dispensers in the shower and by the sink so have had other people's hands all over them. On arrival the room smelt of bad drains. This turned out to be coming from the shower so naturally I ran lots of hot water down it and then had to wait for another 45 minutes to get more water to shower in. The restaurant on site is only open for breakfast that you pay for. There is no bar. There are road works going on directly outside. The air con was so poor that you needed the windows open so it was noisy. The only good thing is the location. Parking is a rip off 25 dollars a night. The local car parks are cheaper . Late check out is a joke. We got an extra hour. After that you had to pay for another night !!!! . They will store your luggage for you but you have to move your car out of the car park. That's when we found out it would have been cheaper to park next door. I would not stay here !!!

« Location is about 15 min walk to casinos and you are in Downtown »

The hotel is in the middle of Auckland down town. You can walk to all restaurants, tower and casino. The hotel is a little old. No AC and the bathrooms are very old. Construction in front makes it hard to get in or out for a Taxi.

« Good place to stay in CBD »

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights on arrival in NZ and then 3 nights before leaving the country and found it to be a pleasant experience with a very good location and very reasonable rates. On arrival we had a 5th floor room very clean at the back of the building but basic and nothing extra.. On our return we had a much better room on 12th floor overlooking the giant swing. Both units were large containing small kitchenette. Hotel is next to grocery store. Staff (except 1) were very helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

    « Great Stay!! »

We were extremely happy with our choice of accommodation. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment with living area & kitchen (on the 11th floor). Lots of room, impeccable cleanliness, reasonably quiet, short walking distance to everything & handy having a washing machine & dryer in the room. It has a large supermarket 2 doors up for decently priced supplies, & many a restaurant or take away eateries every direction you go. It is a block to the civic theatre & sky tower, while walking distance if you want to catch the free bus out to the aquarium. All in all we would definitely stay again & would highly recommend this hotel to others. The only thing we thought needed looking at was the toilet did not flush very well & the exhaust in the bathroom was not working.

    « good location »

We stayed 2 times 1 night in BW President and were happy with our stay. There are big construction works in the street, but that did not disturb us. Our room was big, quiet, clean and comfy and besides of tea, coffee, chocolate..., there were some plates, glasses, cups, cuttlery...to prepare a breakfast. Reception is friendly and helpful. Location is excellent, very close to the busstation (4 minutes), next to a Countdown, close to shops and restaurants, and at walking distance of all the sights of Auckland. Free luggage storage. Possiblity to refresh yourself and to put other clothes, after a day of walking and before departure to the airport Recommended.

    « Good in Location »

We been there for 3 days this early April. Hotel is mid of the street. There was construction carrying on at the area but we couldn't hear any noise from our room. Only parking and drop off a bit inconvenient in this busy street. Queen street (shopping street) just 5 min walk. Countdown is just few steps from hotel. However, I have to say the hotel a bit old. This doesn't bothering me much as many NZ hotel quite old too. The day we arrived, the hotel staff told us that our 2-bedroom 2-bathroom unit was under maintenance. So they upgraded us to bigger unit but with only 1 bathroom. When we get into the room, it had bad smell. The single size bed very small and the pillow too soft. Their wifi only limited to 1 device per room. Luckily we got our booking room next day. Unfortunately, one of the room toilet bowl kept having disgusting water if not been used for sometimes and the hairdryer not even working. The kettle also leaking but the hotel staff very efficiently changed a kettle for us once got our report. I only can say if you need a good location and good value of hotel, this hotel will be your good choice.

« Overpriced with few amenities »

My partner and I checked in here to have a romantic night alone for our anniversary. We've stayed here many times previously, as recently as last year and generally found it satisfactory for the price. However this time upon checking in we were told an average room would cost $250 per night. Just last year an average studio room was $170-$180. Why the extortionate price raise? Certainly it hasn't gone on improving your rooms - furnishings are dated, no sky tv, no electric blankets, poor water pressure. For $170 per night we expected this. But charging $250 a night for what you currently offer is a joke! Secondly we ordered room service. Ala-carte menu offered breakfast options with either bacon and banana or fruit and a choice of juice, tea and coffee included. My partner ordered 2 meals with bacon and bannana. Drinks were not mentioned or offered by staff. Breakfast arrived and one meal had no banana and no maple syrup. Who the hell wants pancakes with no syrup? And no coffee, tea or juice despite being included in the $15 price tag. A call to room service to request the forgotten syrup, drinks and banana was placed and a second trip was made to our room to bring the items THEY FORGOT. Lo and behold, upon checking out we were charged a $3 surcharge for the second trip to our room for YOUR MISTAKE. Only redeeming features of the whole sorry mess is that the room was clean and the location is central. But your piss poor service and exorbitant prices will mean we don't stay again. For $250 a night we could definitely find better!

« Excellent service and great location »

With a budget chain you know what you are getting. Our room was spacious, comfy bed, clean, etc. We didn't have food so don't know what thats like. Reception helped print my boarding passes and our airport transfer. Generally very helpful. Great location. Warning - there are loads of workmen outside cause of building works. It's a bit noisy. Not thr hotel's fault.

    « Convenient yet Inconvenient »

This hotel is most conveniently located right in the heart of downtown area. Check-in was quickly and efficiently done. Wi-Fi was in place. But there are NO porters to take your baggage to your room. The room (the bathroom was a very small cubicle) was small. The bathrooms have no latch. The buffet breakfast was minimal and didn't offer a very wide choice.

« Terrible place to stay »

This hotel is really, really bad. It's hard to know where to begin from - the inaccessible parking, the rude guys at the desk who ALWAYS forget to reserve your parking space, the terrible food at the breakfast "buffet", the bedsheets that aren't changed unless you ask the room cleaners to, the chinese prostitutes that frequent the hotel at night, literally knocking on doors to solicit (happened to me TWICE)...name it, it's there. And when they charge your credit card the $50 "emergency charge, in case you need to pay for something", they don't reload it onto your card when you leave unless you specifically demand so. This hotel is terrible.

« Excellent Location, Average Service »

We were on our Honeymoon and had booked the Best Western owing to our familiarity with the brand name and the proximity of the property to almost every place of interest in the city (you can actually see the Sky Tower from the rooms). The facilities are well rounded and make for a comfortable stay. The in-room pantry with cutlery was a big plus. The breakfast was a standard continental fare but could've done with a few more vegetarian options. The location of the hotel makes it pretty easy to plan your travels. It's a bit further away from the airport though so you should probably have that in mind while planning to commute for your flight. The service of the staff is average at best (cold and unwelcoming at worse). Basic items such as socket converters are not kept in stock and the cleaning staff doesn't get the job done on time. When I complained about the cleaning and asked for the towels to be replaced, I was asked to come down to the reception to get them (such an incident would've been inexcusable in India). Overall, pick this place if you're looking for a central location and functional rooms. Will not recommend to honeymooners looking for an extra bit of service and pampering.

    « Location »

Great location and affordable. Perfectly fine for a nights stay in the Auckland CBD. Stayed here to attend a family wedding at St Patrick's Cathedral which is only a short walk away - also very close to Sky City and supermarket just a few metres walk from front entrance. Currently roadworks being undertaken in this area so check with hotel before arriving and pre-book a car park if travelling by car.

    « Good Location »

Great location. Clean beds and bathroom. We paid a reasonable price and got what we expected - good Location, clean room but basically furnished but it did everything we needed . the rooms are a little stark however we didn't pay luxury price so as long as they are lean that's good. It was good for a one night stay.

« Dont be duped and get slugged for parking fees. »

The staff were great, friendly and very helpful, especially for novices like us. They helped with free sims that you top up yourself to use your phones and internet. They gave us maps and great directions and info on how to get around, where to eat etc. The room was nice and clean. The view, as in most cities, was of other buildings, as expected, whick is not why we went there anyway. We enjoyed our stay and were looking forward to the rest of our holiday if it was going to be anything like staying here. BUT THEN...I checked my bank account and found they had deducted about $50 from my bank. I rang and spoke to a young man and he said it was for parking....umm, we were parking our car while we stayed in YOUR hotel!!! Basically I was told...too bad, it's your travel agents fault for not telling you, suck it up. Byeee. What a downer...if not for that I'd have given a much better score.

« 2 night stay after long flight »

We stayed here for 2 nights after a very long flight from the UK. We found it great for our needs, it is in a convenient location for the shops and the harbour side is only 10/13 minutes walk away. We stayed over the weekend and it was quite noisy at night but it didn't cause us too great an inconvenience. Wi-Fi was excellent, the buffet breakfast was good value and plenty of choice. Staff friendly and helpful. Room adequate size with all the necessary facilities. All in all, very pleasant stay.

    3
    « Average »

Pretty average hotel with a pretty standard room. Although very nice, it is just that. Stock standard. And if your expecting a view, dont due to the construction outside. Hotel is across the road from Star City & 5 munute walk from the InterCity bus terminal.

    5
    « Great location »

Great place to stay. Very clean and tidy. Friendly helpful staff. Perfect location in CBD. With-in walking distant to the Sky City and Casino.Plenty of shops to wander around close by. Breakfast was good.

« Location is the only good thing »

Stayed there for 3 nights in October and found this place old and musty. Due to the construction in front, parking is limited and parking space is very narrow. The worse bit is that hot water usage is limited to 15 mins and one would have to wait 45 mins for it to heat up again!! What happens if a family of 4 was staying? I have never stayed at any establishment that controls the usage that I am paying for. Wifi- free one device per person checking in- even if you stay in a 2-bedroom apartment that can accommodate more than 1 person - seriously?! Others like IHG giving 3-5 devices & some even limitless but here you have to pay an additional $10 for each device connected. The worst part is it has pathetic connection that keeps dropping off Good points- staff are very friendly & helpful with fast lifts

« Good Location, Noisy Construction »

The reviews of this being a great location are true. It's literary 1 minute from Queen's Street and a bit further to Sky City. My room was clean, but the bathroom was so small, I had to stand on the toilet seat in order to close the door to get to the shower. The building behind this one was undergoing construction, which started at around 10pm and continued through the night. It was very annoying. It was also annoying that only one device could be connected to the wifi every 24 hours.. Even asking my phone to "forget" the wifi and then asking my computer to log in would not work. It was also a pain to have to change the password every 24hrs too. The front desk staff were good for the most part...one of them on my last day seemed very put out when I asked to store my luggage for a few hours. If you want to be close to Queen Street, this is a good place to stay. If the building behind the hotel wasn't undergoing construction, I would probably stay here again.

    « Great location, but... »

The location of the hotel is ideal. The staff was helpful and friendly/informal. Somewhat noisy (even on the 14th floor). If I could give a tip to what to do first: renew the bathroom and the isolation in the rooms. Thanks for the coffee and tea (free of charge). Although I can't rate it 3.5, that's how I see it.

    4
« Excellent location, helpful staff. »

The location of the hotel is excellent. Front desk staff were helpful and lovely, but the lobby is really old fashion, it needs to be refreshed . Room was spacious and clean, good finishes, window can be opened for fresh air and consumables were of very high quality.Excellent free wifi. I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Auckland.

« Perfect for our needs »

We felt a bit apprehensive as we waited in a fairly "tired" reception area for our room to become available, bit we were pleasantly surprised with our room. It was spacious, clean and well serviced. We really appreciated the kitchenette facilities, excellent free wifi, and complimentary newspaper. We had an opening window which was good as we had a back room so it was reasonably quiet. The location is ideal for events in the city and there is a supermarket a few doors along the street.

    4
    « Clean and Tidy. »

Clean and tidy. The window latch wedges were missing so you have to find some paper to fold up and jam under the hand latch so the windows close to reduce the outside noise to be able to sleep at night.

    2
    « Nope... »

First impressions are key, especially in the hotel and restaurant business. And this hotel did not impress. The front desk employees weren't friendly at all, even a bit snappy when it took us somewhat longer to pop up the creditcard. Sorry, but we just had a 35 hour journey across 11hours worth of timezones, so we might be a bit tired. The room was okay, but it felt bleak and cramped. A colour that might have passed for something a while ago but now mainly just looked worn. There was no decoration in the room and the curtains were in dire need of an upgrade. The same applied for the windows, as we were situated on the 9th floor at the front of the building, we were still able to clearly hear all the street noise. We didn't even bother getting breakfast there as we deemed the price why too high compared to the many coffee or lunch rooms around. The only big plus, which gives this hotel 2 green dots instead of just 1 is its superb location. Everything can be visisted by foot.

« Location was in the CBD »

We are fans of Best Westerns mostly in North America with the continental breakfast usually included along with wifi. Not all Best Westerns are created equal so I rely a lot on TripAdvisor and other review sites to decide. The Best Western President Hotel was excellently located which is one reason we chose this hotel. Very nice having a Countdown Grocery a few doors down for the few things we needed. We had wifi passwords and had free wifi for our stay. The front lobby is very unwelcoming, probably the most unwelcoming I've ever experienced with a Best Western. The restaurant is only open for breakfast we were told and there was a continental breakfast for $20 (no complimentary one) or you could have the a la carte menu. We opted to go out. Checkin was smooth and the clerk suggested a fantastic place to eat when we arrived. We immediately advised we were hoping for a late checkout if possible two days later - we were told to ask the next day. We did and were told that checkout was 10am and because they would be full we could only have until 10:30am (an additional 30minutes). Too bad our flight was not until 8pm. But we could leave our bags at the hotel and when we came back we could change in the bathroom close to the elevators - take our luggage into a small bathroom stall to change and freshen up for a long flight not exactly ideal :( We ended up going to the airport instead and chose to wait there. Price was good for Auckland CBD.

    « Excellent! »

I was at this hotel during my vacation last May. Hotel was good, staff are very helpful. An extra worthy is this hotel is just a few steps with the groceries shop. Halal foods located nearby. All in walking distance.

    5
    « Good hotel »

Good hotel. Great location right in the centre of Auckland. You can see the Sky Tower from most rooms. Big rooms. Only bad side is the shower head is too low for someone 6 foot tall. Beware this is a hotel Contiki uses so there can be some noise at nights.

    2
    « Not for Us »

This hotel looked OK in the reviews but we did not enjoy our stay. We were put off right at the start by the homeless man sleeping in the hotel doorway. A little too urban gritty for us. The street is under construction for a new metro stop so Uber had to let us off a little bit away from the entrance. We were on the 5th floor facing the street and, even with the windows closed, we could hear people shouting late into the night from the street below. Our room was pretty small but clean and the bed was comfortable. There was barely enough floor space for both of our suitcases to be out and open. I tripped over mine in the night. There is a hefty charge for fast wi-fi but the regular speed was OK for us for one night. The front desk staff were not helpful or friendly. In five weeks of travel in Australia and New Zealand, this is the only place that I would not go back to.

    3
« Center of the City »

Its really good and centre of the city, from this hotel you can go anywhere by walking. The hotel is very good and spacious. there is very big problem of hotel staff as there are not much staff. And also there is too high charges for the car parking. And we have to reserve the parking in advance.

    4
« Great Location, spacious room »

I only stayed here for one night, however, I was impressed with the size of the room and also the soundproofing. I had a room that looked out to the Skytower and the construction that is occurring near the hotel, however, I did not hear a thing. There are numerous restaurants / cafes nearby and there is also a supermarket next door.

    5
    « great value »

we stayed two nights. We had a two bedroom as that was the cheapest option. The hotel is in a great spot. It was quiet and clean. There is on site car parking at $25 per night but it is around the back of the hotel and nowhere to pull up outside at the moment due to roadworks. so, sort the location out befroe you get there. would definitely stay again

« Basic but clean and spacious in an excellent location »

You would be hard pressed to find a hotel room in Auckland CBD as spacious as this one for the price. The bathroom, lounge and bedroom were all large. When I say basic, I mean the rooms had everything you needed but of an average standard. However, everything was very clean and the location was great. We were a block away from the Civic and less than 10 minutes to the water front. It was also surprisingly quiet. The staff were very friendly.

    2
    « Quick overnight stop »

We weren't arriving until after midnight, so selected this hotel since it was centrally located and reasonably priced. The room was so small we couldn't find place to put two suitcases. It looked like it had been built in 1930. Sheets and bathroom were clean. One straight back chair was the only place to sit besides bed. There was a refrigerator.

    5
    « Great Value Hotel »

This was the first hotel I went to during my trip to New Zealand. The lobby was small but clean. Reception was very professional and nice. The rooms were great! One of the nights, I was by myself and the room was clean and well put together. The second time I came here, I was in a suite with 3 other females and the rooms were still excellent. I would recommend this hotel to everyone! It's right next to the main street for shopping!

« Great location, friendly helpful staff, nice quiet room »

We have just had a lovely family holiday here. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment on the top floor. I was a bit nervous about top floor initially but got used to it, the black out curtains made you feel not so high up. Great apartment, great shower. Unlike sone reviews on here we got free WiFi for 4 devices and it worked great. No toaster in room only slight issue, but the kids liked helping me make it and go up in the lift with it. Extremely helpful and friendly staff, especially Scott! They have good gym as well. Perfect location, we were going to hire a car but just walked everywhere instead. We will definitely be back. Thanks again.

    4
    « Awesome staff »

The staff are excellent and the room was clean and well serviced. The only problem we had was our internet connection stunk and sometimes if other things were plugged in to the other sockets it would interfere with the TV reception.

    3
    « Great location »

It was an okayish visit. there was a mix up and somehow 3 rooms were booked for us but the staff were happy to put us all in one room. Elevators would painfully slow and waited a long time just to use them. Great location in the cbd

    3
    « Reasonable holiday experience »

Encountered some problems with arrival at hotel with roadworks in progress at front entrance. Had to carry luggage up 2 flights of stairs at back of hotel. Noisy party going on all night in room on same floor. Clean room and hotel, good location to city centre and restaurants.

    4
    « Room 1405 »

Great clean room modern decor, hotel placed right in cbd. Room wasn't ready upon 2 pm check in so we had a 1/2 hour wait, but great views of sky tower. Comfy bed. Lots of road works around the cbd currently so getting to the car park/ venue if you have your own car can take time. Reasonably quiet on 14th floor. Several homeless people sitting in doorways on the street shaking cups with coins and and an intoxicated person approaching walkers at 2 pm in afternoon which was an eye opener.

    3
    « Good Location »

I stood there 3 nights in September 2016. Located in the city center of Auckland next to Queens Street this hotel is ok, if the price is ok. The hotel is old and has no atmosphere, but it is very clean. Rooms are quite dark. Some staff is not very friendly.

« the 2 bedroom apartment with the self contained unit »

We stayed for 4 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment the rooms were ok size and had a lot of light from the windows and they had block out blinds the room was cleaned daliy. When you read some reviews don't believe every think you read I did. The staff were nice, the rooms were clean and the bathroom was good.Clean towels were replaced daily, the supermarket was nice to have it so close and handy, the only thing that I didn't like was the carpet there was a big red stain and it just needed a good clean. The noise was loud sometimes on the weekend but it is not like that in the morning. The elevator was good I had no problems with it. The car park was good and we did book it at the same time as the apartment, we rented a kia carnival 8 seater van which was a bit tight but smaller cars would fit fine.

    « Good location »

Good location. 5 minutes walking distance to Sky tower and Queen Street. Mid range, perfect if you want a clean, comfortable place for a decent price. No free shuttle service. Took super shuttle from the airport. $35 for 1st person, $8 for the next passengers if you're travelling in group

    4
    « Great Location »

The best thing about this place is the location. Its about 3 blocks down to the ferry terminals, and literally at the Sky Tower. It was such a great way to wake up every morning. The city is bustling, and if you like visiting skyline cities, Auckland is great. Any local Kiwi will tell you not to visit, but being from the San Francisco area, we absolutely loved the 2 days we spent there. Only caution is if you are renting a car, they only have 10 reserved spaces which have to be BOOKED WITH YOUR ROOM in advance. its $25 a day which is cheap for all day parking. I just didn't see the fine print that told you the spaces have to be booked in advance, so that was extremely disappointing. But there is a garage right across the alley that is $36 a day. I wish the space rental info was more promienet on the expedia website. Also, there is a little souvenir shop attached and you get 10% off with your hotel card.

« Noisy and run down »

My wife and I stayed at the best and western prior to going to the Cook Islands. Staff were friendly and accommodating, location was very centralized but that is the only good points I can say, our room was on the 12th floor adjacent to a "sling shot" ride, the noise of people screaming whilst they were shot in the air was loud (windows closed didn't really do a thing) and annoying, the bathroom had a sewage smell from to time and the fridge had a loud cut. All in all I think I slept for 5 hours in our 2 night stay and wasn't a nice stay/transition.

    4
    « Large room »

Stayed three night and found it quite good. Very central for bus station at Sky tower, bus stops, supermarket and main shopping street. Not far for aquarium shuttle either. Down side Internet for one device only and limited, no toaster in room on another floor for some reason and our lounge was a bit worn out. Can be a bit noisy overnight at the moment with road works out the front but thats not the hotels fault. Overall not bad and would stay there again.

    5
« Great staff, great location, very welcoming »

It's not a Hilton - no gold taps: It's a Great Western. Comfortable, welcoming, clean and not unaffordable. Our stay at the President was outstanding. Welcoming registration, cosy, comfortable ultra-clean room, excellent wifi, staff who couldn't do enough and a perfect location to discover the city. Public transport stops outside, a 5 min walk to the "Brand" shops and the wharf and 2 mins to the tower. Also, a Woolies 50 metres away for those room "necessities." I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

    4
    « Great stay »

The hotel is slightly dated but as we entered our room, we were amazed with the size and the facilities. The room was clean, the toilet is at a decent size and the kitchenette has everything what we wanted. Wifi access is only for 1 device, unfortunately. Location wise it's perfect, with the sundry, supermarket just down the road, the Sky Tower plus the Intercity Bus Station is just around the corner if you were to visit Hobbiton. The shuttle bus to the Airport is somewhere close by. Can't recall which road but feel free to ask the reception, I think his name is Scott (i hope i got his name right) - he was very accommodating to all my queries.

« Tired looking hotel with problematic doors »

Hotel check-in was pretty quick. The lobby and lift probably needs some updating. Rooms were huge with a small kitchenette but very tired looking. One of the soap dispensers was empty. Toilet flush did not work and had to call help. Both key cards did not work and had to go down and reset one card to get in. Internet was free but limited at a few hundred MB. And only for one device per room. The location was pretty good. A stone's throw away from Auckland skytower and few restaurants and bars. Carpark was $25/night and had to be booked in advance, which we were not informed about. Triple beds were really small.

    « Downright scary »

This reservation was made for us by a travel agent. When we arrived late at night, construction blocked the entrance, and it was dark and locked. No parking, and I had to leave my daughter with the car and walk uphill to a dark entrance that was locked.Supposedly there was a button to push but it was too dark for me to see, and the people inside ignored us although I know they did see us. We had to go elsewhere for the night because we couldn't get in. Next day, we tried again, and I've never been in a scarier place. I've seen dirtier, yes, but not by much. The clerk was rude and accusing, the parking impossible, and vagrants were hanging around the parking garage, I think to follow us in if we had decided to stay. They don't say so anywhere that I could find, but their parking garage, which is locked, is only available if you pre-arranged for it. I never saw the rooms. I cancelled on the spot, but was threatened with payment for two nights anyway even though they wouldn't let us in. Wow, what an awful experience.

« Location, Clean and Spacious Room »

Just a short walk to shopping street (Queen St.) and a supermarket(Countdown). A convenience store and souvenir shop at the entrance of the hotel. Near Sky Tower, Town Hall, Albert Park, civic center, etc. You can walk here to the ferry station where you can take a ride to Devonport, Waiheke island, etc. The hotel is a bit old, but still neat and clean. We booked for a 2-bedroom apartment, but to our surprise we were given a 3 bedrooms instead which is actually good for 6 persons. The apartment was spacious, complete with kitchen, washer and a dining table. There were times we opted to just buy some meat and vegetables at the nearby supermarket and cooked in the apartment for our dinner. Breakfast buffet is just fine, but all the same food everyday. Choices of eggs, ham, beans, mushrooms, sausage, bread, cereals, yogurt and fruits. Very easy to get around the city by bus, there are plenty of bus stops at Queen street which is short walk from the hotel.

« Reception was out of his mind »

We check in very late around 9ish. We booked a double room. Everything was fine but we hit the clubs afterwards and things weren't good then I told my husband to pack our staff and leave the apartments at like 2ish cause we so were a bit noisy. He (reception) came up to check the room if we've done any damages and he reckons that he can charge us $30 to pay for cleaning cause the room was messy we haven't even used any beds it was just chips on the floor and he told us we have to pay for cleaning. I was like that is your job we only pay money if there's any DAMAGE and he jumped the gun I'll ring the police in yous, we were drinking but we're not too dump to know what's right and what's not right we told him to go ahead and ring the police and that moment he handed our bond back then we left. Moral of my story is that he thought that we were drunk AF to play dodgy on us with our bond but sorry bro doesn't apply to us.

« Great location, good value and friendly staff. »

The room was very clean and well presented. It is great to have a little kitchenette, only the bare essentials of plates/cutlery and a microwave but this is more than a normal hotel room would provide. The housekeeping staff did a great job, the bed linen and bathroom towels etc were very clean and looked good. Three of the four bed pillows were a bit firm and fat but that is just my personal view. I was glad there was one that it was possible to use reasonably comfortably. The location is very handy but the location makes it very noisy unfortunately. Sadly the latch on the window did not close properly and so the noise from the street during the night was considerable. Luckily we had ear plugs with us. Very reasonable price for the good quality room. The check in and check out was fast and the reception staff without exception were professional and friendly.

    « Not a pleasant night »

The room smelt like sewerage when I walked in and because there was a huge slingshot ride outside on the street, there was screaming that was loud all night. I was petrified. For someone staying by themselves, I wouldn't recommend and I wouldn't stay here again

    « Good stay »

Stay was okay, room was way too hot though and not enough Windows. Staff were good and rooms were clean but way too stuffy. Price was good and the buffet breakfast was yum. Would recommend for a short stay but not if you get clostrophobic.

« Worst hotel we have ever stayed in! »

Unbelievable. Wouldn't give us a higher room, ours faced the road on 4th floor, no double glazing and Windows don't shut properly you may as well have the bloody things open! Building the new subway right outside, loud bangs and construction noise all night among the cars & people screaming. No sleep whatsoever, was my husbands birthday and it was crapp. Never ever again. We travel extensively for work staying in hotels, this is the worst we've come across. They also had our 2 nights booked under separate names and separate rooms so we cancelled it and went and stayed with family the 2nd night. Unbelievable.

« Perfect location but at what cost? »

Once my party of four adults checked in(myself included). I asked for the advertised free wifi code. I was told that only ONE device per room will be allowed to have the complementary wifi. We all had phones,iPads, laptops, etc. After showing what's advertised on the internet I was told I will have to pay for each additional device that I wanted to have access to the internet. The room was very spacious, clean, and in the heart of the city. BUT NO ROOM SERVICE! We ran out of towels and called to have some delivered to our room and she replied come downstairs to get them and hung up the phone in my face. Also I tried to call a local diner the hotel charges a dollar for the first minute and 20 cents after every minute. Once our trip came to an end we checked out of our room we asked the gentlemen could he called for a taxi to take us to the airport. We got no answer it was too early he said have breakfast; come back and he'll call again. We returned after an hour had passed and now a women at the desk. We asked can she call a taxi for us she said for a charge of 50 cents. We informed her that the guy who we spoke to earlier called for us free of charge! She replied with an attitude"I'm not calling unless you have the money". After going back and fourth with her for over 5 min another representative came and told her to call. Extremely disappointed. Traveled many places and never experienced a hotel that NICKLE and DIMES you for everything, That's has false advertisement, and poor customer service. I also wrote a letter to corporate about the horrible experience.

« hidden costs, poor customer service »

This hotel does not advertise anywhere that they will ping you for $100 on check-in! It may be pending but this still means it is not available for your to spend on your holiday. Then when you check-out you are made to wait while someone takes their time checking your room so they can release the $100 back to you. The receptionist left us sitting for half an hour even after she had already been told our room was fine - shocking service and shady dealings!

« Room OK but customer service bad »

The room was OK, but very noisy at the moment as the new underground railway station is being built directly outside hotel entrance. Room could be cleaned a little better, blinds were dirty and retract strings broken so the blinds could not close completely. Customer service bad and un-caring. Asked for a 1 hour extension to check-out but told quite bluntly a number of times, absolutely no. A day later when I checked out I mentioned this to another staff member who said he would have extended by 2 hours!, but get this, he overheard my discussion the day earlier with the person who would not agree - why didn't he step in then and offer an extension. Bad service!!

Came here for Business. Paid $302 for 2 nights. Rooms are dated. Room amenities are from 10 years ago, dispensers on the wall and in shower. A sign in the bathroom informs you that you are only able to have a 15min shower then power switches off and only resets after 45 min. What if there are 2 guests in a room? Bath towels are very small, good for very small people! Furniture is dated and lookes like office ware. Went for breakfast in restaurant and there were only 2 options, option 2 had run out. Ooh sorry! Wouldn't book here again. Not worth the stars or money!

« Central and Nice Location »

This hotel was reasonable stay for us. Our room was comfortable, clean, tidy and presented well. Customer service however was not great. There is a lack of attention to detail in delivering customer needs. I may be over critical, but I'm an advocate of quality customer service as key to a customer having a great experience, and it wasn't here at this hotel.

Stayed here for six days last week while attending a conference and having a bit of a holiday. For the first few days we stayed in one of their smaller rooms but this was good enough, clean, fresh and all that we needed. For the last part of the week we had booked one of their studio rooms, quite a bit larger and again clean and fresh. We found all the staff really friendly and very helpful. The reception staff were great and nothing was a bother. The cleaning staff were also great and went out of their way to help. While I wouldn't say the hotel was ultra modern it had all the advantages of price, location and friendly staff.

Smooth check in with no issues. First floor room was tiny and ended up bring noisy due to proximity to Gym and also early morning garbage collection. Bed was uncomfortable. The internet was too slow to watch video - even a one minute Olympics highlight clip. Other issues with room: 1. Safe was locked so not usable 2. Iron didn't work (big issue for business traveller) So in the morning I left note in room next to each item with description of fix required. When I returned that night the room had been made up but the notes ignored. But it gets worse... On the first morning I had an early flight to catch (Day trip - fly in fly out) so the hotel ordered me a taxi for 5.30am. When taxi didn't show I asked the night attendant and he called the company - the booking had been made for 5.30pm!!! I finally flagged a taxi down at 5.45am - no assistance from hotel - and only just made it to the flight. So in a nutshell this hotel is hopeless - I cannot recommend and would avoid completely.

My partner and I stayed here last Saturday night, the customer service was appalling. The receptionists were extremely rude and unfriendly. Not a good representation of such a lovely city. Don't be fooled by the price either, they will try charge you for everything after you check out. Make sure to take photos of the room if you do insist on staying. Location is good but not worth it. I recommend staying in one of the other hotels, you may pay $50 extra but you will have a much more enjoyable stay.

« Five stars for location! »

Without a doubt this hotel ticks the location box. A reasonable stay for us. Our room was comfortable, clean, tidy and presented well. Customer service however was not great. Customers notice when employees just "put" good service on. There is a clear lack of attention to detail in delivering customer needs. It's the small things that count. Whilst some aspects like personalised touches were good the execution of these were terrible. The hotel is a bit daggy, and stuck in 1999. Other then that we enjoyed our stay. I may be over critical, but I'm an advocate of quality customer service as key to a customer having a great experience, and it wasn't here at this hotel.

« Poor service and terrible room »

I booked through my airpoints as a gift for my partner. Yet when I arrive with him to check in it was under his name and not mine. The person serving us was also rude which made the sitiation even more irritating. When we got here to park they couldnt find my reservation as it was not under my name (under my partners as said above) so I then was asked to park in one spot. Once we had booked in and they had found where we were booked to park I then had to go down an move it to there. After all of this we got to the room to find the kitchen area the size of a metre with the bathroom right next to it. And the whole room living area and bedroom only had 1 window that you could barely open. The whole place was not appealing and had no views whatsoever. Never to stay here again. Not nive enough to come back.

    « LOCATION! »

Stayed here with a travel group and the rooms were very accommodating and comfortable! Plenty of space and very clean bathroom and shower. TV was modern and great channels to choose from. Close to the main strip of bars, shops and restaurants and convenience stores next door. Only downfall would be the free wifi that we got with our rooms didn't work at all. View was very nice compared to other hotels, you were staring into a brick wall or office building but rather the city in general!

Upon our arrival, we have to go through the back entrance since there are constructions going on and our ride cannot stop there. The check in was smooth and the rooms were both clean and roomy and have all the needs. But the elevators were broke down and only 1 working so we have to wait for more than 15 mnts. The location is something to shout about. It is located just down by the skytower, and within 5 mnts walk to queen street. There is also supermarket besides the hotel which is very convenient.

I visited President hotel as it was a task for me to complete from my UNI as an assignment, I asked reception to meet the manager for asking some questions related to my assignment, But the guy(RAJ)on the reception told me that i need to make an appointment to meet the manager, I was bit disappointed at first because i has to submit the task next day, but then i ask him to help me in my assignment He smiled and said Sure, Then i started asking him questions and he replied each answer with a smile and calm face, Even though he knows that i am not a customer but still he was willing to help and he treated me as a valuable customer, Really liked his first class customer service, Thank you RAJ for helping me :)

We had a two bedroom unit for my husband and I plus my parents for one night. We thought it was good value for the four of us. The location is close to the sky tower, an eating place called Elliot's stables and there is also a supermarket next door to the hotel. The apartment was in need of some updating as the decor was a bit dated and the bathroom and kitchen are starting to get a bit old but it was fine for a night. The reception service was efficient and they also booked our shuttle to the airport for us.

« Charge EXTRA NZD150 after checked out 1 day later without notice »

Before booking this hotel, we came across a bad review and the customer was rip-off by this hotel. Thinking that the same issues might not happens again as the LONG & BAD review was published, the hotel will want to keep a good image in service industries. We were WRONG! We checked in on 09/06/2016, checked out 10am on 10/06/2016, and came back around 12pm to collect car keys ( all our luggage was inside the car before we handed the keys to Mr Raj.) from Mr Raj and we were NOT INFORMED of any problem with microwave oven which they needed to re paint for a cost of NZD100 and the BIG patch of WET carpet around the door, ( we remembered there is ONLY tiles outside the bathroom area & NOT carpet. ) cost NZD50 for the cleaning fees. The ridiculous part was, When we email Mr Raj for the refund, as hotel had solid 2 (TWO) hours to check such a BIG & OBVIOUS damage we "might have" done & charge us on the same day after checked out, we were told the hotel "prioritize" the arrival therefore they DID NOT check the rooms. ( the hotel was quite that day when we checked out.) We stayed in 7 hotels/motels through out our NZ trip, and Best western hotel is the ONLY hotel we did not cook because their facility is not suitable for cookings and so far we received good comments from other hotel/motels owner because we truly love & value their properties. Best western refused for the refund and we were told our luggage was left in the Lobby area when we checked out. ( we came back to collect car keys around 12pm, and if we really left our luggage in the Lobby NOT IN THE CARS, we challenge them for a prove) A word of advice: If you still insist to stay in this hotel, please video the condition of the room & amenities with a staff when check in & do the same when check out.

    « Good Location »

I spent six nights here in early June 2016. I have mixed feeling about the hotel but there were enough positives to warrant another stay if I were in Auckland again. First the negatives. There is a lot of road works in progress right outside of the hotel. It made if difficult for taxis and tour buses to pick me up/drop me off. Whilst I realise this is in no fault of the hotel it does become a bit of annoyance after a few days. The Internet was also very slow. Having to pay for an upgrade to have a more standard speed seems unusual for hotels in this day and age. Breakfast also seemed quite pricy. Now the positives. I had a room on the first floor facing a staircase in the building next door. Obviously not a good view but the room was dead quiet which meant a good night's sleep which is always a must when staying in any hotel. Being out for sometimes more than twelve hours a good night's sleep is definitely needed. The rooms were always cleaned exceptionally well upon my return for the day. I seem to remember feedback forms about the cleaning but never had the time to fill one out. The staff were always friendly and helpful with my requests. And finally the location can't be beaten. Pretty well everything is within walking distance. The only time I needed to catch a taxi was to the Auckland Bridge. Even so the walk would've taken only half an hour. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Once the road works outside the hotel are complete the experience will be even better.

    « Very central city »

I was booked a corporate suite for 3 nights, upon arriving by taxi there was road works all around so drop off at the door was not possible but it was a rushed drop off in a bus zone a bout 30 meters down the hill. Being CBD it was very busy and sadly the people around were quite rude. Entering the hotel like a lot of reviews it was little tired but the reception staff were very welcoming. Up to the 6th floor very house keeping staff were nice and friendly, into the room a corner suite with a bit of an outlook on other buildings but not closed in too much. The room was basic but very clean, and for me every thing I needed including kitchenette and microwave. Although it had a kitchenette there was no dining table so you had to eat off the coffee table, or at the bench where with th eTV about 30 cm from your face. There was enough room for a small 2 seat table which would have been almost perfect. The coffee only 2 very ordinary satchels of coffee + decaf but who wants that. There is a woolies supermarket to get things and coffee is a must. There was no hotel information in the room I over heard somebody in the lift talking about the gym I found it but a very small text sign saying you need a seperate key and have to sign in at reception. There is also free internet which they dont tell you about so again down to reception and get an access code to log in , but you have to do this every day. They know how long you are staying so I dont know why they just cant allocate for that time. Not a bad place I was paying a premium but for what I paid you can get a 2 bedroom apartment with full kitchen. But if you shop around the rooms are very reasonably priced for Auckland standard. Walking distance to harbour ,museum and is in the CBD. Ye I would stay here again.

    « Location on point »

Location of this Hotel is perfect with Queen St around the corner, Countdown Supermarket 3 doors down, scrumptious eateries as far as the eye can see, the Warehouse down the road and a cool Asian food court below. Staff were friendly and the full buffet breakfast was divine and for a great price too $20 per person. The only downside was there was work going on out the front of the hotel which meant we had to carry all our luggage, a wheelchair and elderly mother up the back stairs the only lift access to reception was through the carpark which could only be accessed if you had a car to park in there at $25 a day. Upon booking I requested for a room that had heating for my elderly mummy the heater was only blowing out cold air we asked them to sort it out which they gave us a oil heater that worked out fine but they should've checked the heating in the first place. The following day we requested fresh towels and bathroom supplies that took 2 telephone calls and 6 hours to arrive. Despite these the staff were great and the room was nice we had a triple room nice size rooms and a nice kitchenette for supermarket supplies. Will definitely stay here again but double check what we request is what we get when we arrive. Thank you Best Western.

we could not have asked for a better location to stay in Auckland. Its close to the Towers, Supermarket, restaurants. The hotel is on the main road but is well hidden, we didn't spot it the first time we went. its a basic hotel. not fancy, but you get what you pay for. considering the location was so great, we didn't want to think about the downfall of the place. The only downfall is the Hotel is very old and has not been renovated in years. the lifts are so old, we were a bit worried at first. but obviously very safe I would stay here again if we go to Auckland in the future as its value for money. The hotel organized our shuttle back to the Airport so it was easy for us.

    « Adequate »

The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. However, the street can be noisy as there is a bungee ride directly across from the hotel. You can hear riders until 2 am. The hotel offers "complementary wifi" however it is only good for one devise and every 24 hours you have to ask for a new code and he internet is slow and often doesn't work at all. You can upgrade of course for a fee. On a more positive note the room was spacious.

    « Customer service matters »

My room was clean and decent, albeit really small and with a closet-sized bathroom. But that's not the reason I'll stay elsewhere next time I'm in Auckland. Their web site says to contact them for their airport transportation. I checked about how to arrange that and they told me about Super Shuttle. That's not providing airport transportation--anyone can check for publicly available shuttle services. Plus, the city's SkyBus is a much better option. At check-in, one clerk tried to handle everyone while what appeared to be the manager sat right behind the desk, ignoring the customers waiting, and worked on paperwork. Should have gotten up and helped keep up with customers. In the room, I never got the heater to do anything but blow at a constant rate. You know how hot air rises? Apparently the designers and installers did not--it was at ceiling level pointed straight ahead. The top fourth of the room was warm, but I never got the space I was in below that comfortable. The remote made it chirp but not change anything. At checkout I checked my bags to walk around town. When I got back, the clerk opened the side door then started by looking at the first bag by the door of the many between there and my bags, when mine was near the back. I poked my head in to say 'mine are back there' and she snapped at me 'employees only in here.' Free Internet? Yes, but just for one device, and I had to re-authorize it every day--getting a new access code each day. Big time hassle to not use my laptop AND my iPad; even worse to have to get re-approval every day. There are better choices nearby; I suggest you look elsewhere first. I certainly will.

BW is Auckland is an average quality hotel. Limited car park space for guest is a great inconvenience. WiFi Internet speed is just so-so. Room furnishing looks very tired. Could do with a makeover. TV programs are very limited and mediocre . 24 hour news channels like CNN and SkyNews channels will be a very welcome addition.

Location was very nice, walking distance to many attractions. Rooms very clean, staff was nice. Breakfast area was a little small, not easy to get a seat. Thankfully we didn't have a vehicle, the bus had to really work to park, both drop off and pickup. We Would stay there again.

We stayed two nights at BW AKL. The location is perfect! Nearby restaurants, the pier, the airport bus stop and most of the landmarks of the city: we even have the view of the SKY Tower from our room!!! The rooms are quite big and include a nice kitchen that helps every tourist on budget. Also, staff is really friendly and helps on everything needed. Hence great price and location!!!!!

    « Superb location. »

The best thing is location as it is in city center. Just 100m from Queen Street - the shopping place in Auckland and within walking distance to many interesting places e.g. Sky Tower, Art Gallery, Albert Park, Town Hall. Super market "Countdown" located next door. No hotel parking lot, paid public parking is opposite to hotel. Building look old and outdate but hotel room is satisfactory. Fridge, microwave, kettle, cutlery, cup, plates, are provided in room. Bed is too soft and may cause of backache if long stay. Lift is fast but a little bit scary. Staffs are OK and friendly especially housekeeper. Tip: request high floor and back part of building to avoid noise from road in front of hotel.

« Excellent location for a good price »

We got a good price through TripAdvisor so I expected something a bit down-at-heell. Nothing tawdry here, spacious, clean room and very friendly staff - what's not to like? Parking a large car in their car park takes a good knowledge of manoeuvering!

    « Not a good experience »

this was a last minute booking for for 4 nights, however due to the uncomfortable room (14th floor view of the tower from our corner room was great though), noisy internal building works and renovation of the lift and limited hot water (they have installed an electrical hot water system in the rooms, that limits hot water to a maximum of 15 minutes!) not what I would expect from a city centre hotel

    3
    « Wouldn't say great but ok »

It does the job of housing you for the night which I suppose is the main idea. It is a bit inconvenient having to pay $25 for parking once you've already paid for the room but if you have a car what else can you do. The lift is very noisy and can be heard every time it goes up or down, our bed I'm pretty sure was 2 beds put together as they had come apart this morning upon waking up. But it found it to be very clean and it's in a convenient spot of the city!

we stayed here for a couple of nights in april.the hotel is on a main road, where there was construction, and hence no parking.hence we had to drive around the block to its rear entrance, which was not at all marked.the reception didnt give clear instructions,so we went around the block thrice. The rooms are the biggest i have stayed in new zealand.the location is 5min walk to sky tower, and 5 min to the main shopping street.there is a supermarket also just outside,as well as a choice of restaurants.the staff is not the friendliest, but all in all,its a good value for money.

« Was a one night stay pretty much with just a bed for the night as was out doing stuff till 2am »

The room was well presented, tidy and comfortable. We basically just slept and then left in morning. The shower pressure was excellent although for the second person showering the temperature got noticeably cooler. During the night you could hear the lifts going which may disturb some people. I normally would if watching TV watch Sky Sport and I don't think they had that, but I may be wrong on that as I just had a quick flick through and didn't notice and Sport channels. There was very limited parking so you may need to park at another location in the vicinity. The location of the Hotel is really good and just a few hundred metres from Sky City.

« Great location, average quality »

Location, location, location. Walking distance to everything in Auckland. There is however, quite some noise around the hotel, especially coming from the jumping attraction in front of it, we heard noises every time someone was riding it. The room was big, but service was poor. WIFI was only allowed for 1 device per room, and we had to pay NZD$40 for up to three devices per week. We had to buy our own toilet paper because they did not replace it for two days (we were there 10 days). Breakfast was great and staff was polite.

Great central location near downtown and the Sky Tower. Within walking distance to many great shops. Grocery store a few doors down and lots of restaurants. We booked a triple room and the room is big, with a small kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator and utensils. The beds were too soft though. The best part is the location, very near skytree, and queens street shopping area, a 10 minutes walk to the ferry building, there's a supermarket a few doors away from the hotel, a lot of restaurants around the area. Downside, free wifi is only for one device per room, you can access free 30 minutes wifi at the lobby though. Currently there's a construction right outside the hotel, but it wasn't too bothersome. Overall,we enjoyed our stay.

A bit hilly to get to but Hey that's Auckland. The location is great. 2 min walk to Starcity Tower and casino. I-Site office is at basement of Starcity hotel. Many restaurants nearby. Countdown supermarket is 3 doors away. Cheaper than convenience store next to hotel. Food court in Warehouse Atrium opposite of hotel is a good choice. Room is clean. Towels are clean. LCD TV is crystal clear with good channels. Room 605 has a good view of the Starcity Tower. Receptionists are helpful and courteous. Price is amongst the best in the area. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

The rooms were clean and tidy. We were on an outside room with views of surround high rise buildings and a bit further out. Could hear street noise - 12th floor - and the lift. Awesome that there was free wifi for 1 device and it was fast. Staff were helpful and friendly. Disappointed they were going to charge extra for portacot. If being nit-picky; Did need to replace leaky jug and not toaster evident - from experience these are room basics.

« Basic Hotel, Mixed Opinions »

The hotel is super basic and not without flaws. We booked at a decent rate (pre-paid I believe). Our main reason for choosing this hotel was we were arriving at Auckland airport early in the morning and wanted a hotel vs a hostel in the hope that we might be able to check in early, and the fact that they had a king sized bed. We were not able to check in early and the male check-in person we initially spoke to was much less helpful in this regard than the female staff member who helped us store our bags. The room itself was fine and relatively comfortable. Thin walls and windows meant we got a fair bit of street noise - but this is a problem we had at most of our NZ accommodations, not just here. There seemed to be a lot of people hanging around out the benches in the lobby and out front. The price was very good compared to some other CBD hotels we looked out but our en-suite room at the Haka Lodge hostel at the end of our trip was cheaper and almost nicer in some ways. Bottom line: Decent value hotel but not nearly as nice as you might expect if your previous experience with Best Western hotels is in suburban North America. I would consider staying here again but would look at other options first.

« Not the best of introductions »

The hotel shares its lobby with a convenience store. Front staff competent and courteous. The bedding is in desperate need of refurbishment-felt like something from a summer camp. The gym has modest equipment and requires a separate key to enter. Since it is unairconditioned until you enter and without ventilation, be prepared for a sauna if you exercise vigorously, since the room will not be cool prior to you finishing. Rooms are spacious. Very convenient to several key Auckland destinations (Skycity). Wifi for a single device at a time.

« Good Location, Solid Value for Money »

There are no bells and whistles about this hotel, but it is in a good location about 2 mins walk from the sky tower and the rooms are a decent size and clean. Not the best that the free internet only extends to one Device so beware that you will probably have to pay for additional internet. Parking can be purchased but isnt the easiest to find and you cannot pull up outside the front of the hotel as it is a filter lane for the traffic lights ahead of you. Overall it was a slightly dated hotel, but for the price and the location i think it will do a job for a 1 or 2 night stay.

Strategic location, right in the heart of the city, plenty of places to eat, not to mention Sky City within walking distance. Reception staff was friendly and helpful. Will go back to stay again.

    « OK,but not near the lift.... »

Went to NZ for a funeral so booked at very short notice and rates were quite high. Staff helpful and friendly but room (510) was near the lift and could be heard all night. Suggest that all floors with the same floor plan will have the noise problem so be sure to ask for an outside room if possible. Didn't have a lot of accommodation choices at such short notice. Has buffet breakfast available and this is cheaper (nz $20) if you just get it there rather than book it through a travel agent (we were quoted AU$30). Otherwise it is very handy to city, Skytower and nice restaurants ( Suggest to try Lord Nelson restaurant about 4 doors up the street ! ).

« great location but service not so good, and watch your bag out the front »

myself, my mother (84) and my daughter recently stayed here for a few days before boarding a cruise. the room was clean, the restaurant was not operating ( not mentioned ) and the breakfast was disappointing. while coming and going from the hotel, we had to ward off three attempted bag snatches of mother. there are beggars out the front, and some lowlife opportunistic theives as well. on the first occasion, a man tried to grab her suitcase as we were being unloaded from the airport shuttle. then the following morning a man tried to snatch her bag, then a group of four men tried to crowd us, crossing the road toward the hotel.. we moved to beach road area and had no more issues.

« you pay for every extra here »

Upon arrival, we were told that wifi would be an extra charge, parking is extra, extra dishes were extra and one hour late checkout was an extra $40. We called down after check in to ask for extra towels and they asked if we could come down and get them. The unit had a/c but it did not work and was very hot in the 2 bedroom unit we rented. A nice bonus was the washer/dryer, but the dryer did not turn off, so if you put laundry in there and went out, it would still be on 5 hours late, which added to the space that was already quite hot. The carpets were stained and the place did not look like it had been cleaned before we arrived. The location was good.

Awesome place to stay handy to everything. Very impressive restaurant next door Lord Nelson yummie food & cocktails. One problem was we had no Air Con in our room it was a family room 1300 & 1301 one had air con so was very warm. Lovely & clean.

    « Great position »

Great position , easy walking everywhere. room was a reasonable size .it has a tiny kitchenette which would be handy when staying for a while . A little noisy during the night but as it is in city centre you have to expect that.

    « comfortable hotel »

the location is close to many attractions...the wharf, city centre, and the sky tower. making it very easy to get around. Lots of restaurants to choose from. The staff was very helpful when I was booking tours making suggestions and calling to confirm a reservation.

    « NEVER AGAIN. »

Stayed here for (unfortunately) two nights for work and was horrified at how noisy it was. The first night I hardly slept at all as I was kept awake by the extremely loud elevator and rubbish trucks, cars, etc on the streets below. I tried to check out and move hotels the next day but reception wouldn't let me as I had booked through hotels.com...not impressed at all! They moved me to a "much nicer" room on the top floor which was still awful and very noisy. I honestly don't know how people stay here, I will NEVER stay here again. The parking garage is also a nightmare and is $25 per night.

« Only for one night.... »

The best asset this hotel has, is its location. The rest is quite bad if you consider the price. We stayed with my family in a two bedroom apartment. Our parents room was ok but mine has the big problem of the elevator... We heard all noise constantly. The first night was ok because we were exhausted but the second one was very uncomfortable to sleep. Also, the parking is stretch for big vehicles (it cost 25 NZD per day). Bathroom is clean. Wifi only for one device.

« somewhere between good and very good »

This is an older property that is dated and could use a good update; the decor is tired but everything works - for me the mattress was too soft but that is a common complaint of mine. The internet was free and adequate. The room quite large with good closet space and a mini kitchen. The location is excellent right in the heart of downtown with a supermarket 3 or 4 doors down. The price is very reasonable and as my stay in Auckland was to explore the city and not stay in my room, I might stay here again.

    4
    « Good Location »

The rooms were clean and the location was close to all major attractions in Auckland - across from the Sky Tower. There are also several car parks within close walking distance. It was a great choice for my one night stay due to location and low price.

    4
« Comfortable stay for short period »

The location of the hotel is excellent with good choice of restaurants within walking distance. Rooms/bathrooms are not very well furnished but adequate and comfortable for a few days. If travelling in your own car, do book parking space in advance as parking is limited. Staff was quite helpful and we did not face any issues. It would be good if the staff advises guests to buy water from the convenience store located nearby at the time of check in since not everyone would be comfortable drinking from the tap.

« Great Choice for a Quick Trip »

As soon as I walked into my hotel room, I knew I made the right choice. The room was very clean and very well lit. The bathroom was very clean and cleaned daily. I liked the idea of a mounted dispenser for shampoo, body soap and hand sanitiser. Location-wise it was perfect as it was close to shops, the Sky Tower, Viaducts and public transportation. Throughout my stay in Auckland, the hotel gave me a good nights rest after a whole day of jam packed activities.

    3
« Average but great location »

Friendly staff. Rooms average, dated but an ok size. 3 of us shared a room, the single beds were very skinny. Carpark needs to be booked prior & is a pig of a carpark. You cant park outside to check in. The location is perfect for CBD shows, only a short walk to Civic so was fine for our needs.

    3
    « Shabby »

Dingy , no night light over the bed , no great coloured bed throw , no painting , no couch /chair as shown on the website , very stark! Air con in only one bedroom . No fan in the bathroom . Cancelled door key before our check out.

« Perfect Location for Auckland »

I've stayed in a number of hotels in Auckland over the years, but this was my first time at the President Hotel. The location is absolutely wonderful, with shopping, restaurants, bars and other things you would want and need to do, a short walk away. The room was nicely appointed and had a small kitchenette and all the usual amenities you expect in a modern, city hotel room. I had a Studio (Corporate) room which was a nice size for one or even two people. I had a street front room but was not bothered by street noise, but only the air con from the next door room, which came on and off during the night. The only other things that I would say were the downside was the chair at the desk in the room was broken, which made it hard to sit in it, and there was an unpleasant smell when you first come into the hotel's lobby. Apart from those very minor things, I enjoyed my stay, the staff were professional and pleasant and the sleep quality in the room was very good. I would stay here again.

« Great location and affordable comfort »

We stayed here for the second time from April 13th for three nights. Found last trip that this was a tough to beat location and had easy access to supermarkets, banks, cafes and restaurants and attractions..all within walking distance. Whilst it is in a busy part of town and comes with associated noise, we found our room (509) quite roomy and comfortable for the low price.

    « Stay 1-night-and-run-away »

The Hotel is well located in the middle of the city but it's old, kind of dirty and staff is really unpleasant. Upon check-in we had to wait an extra hour and a half (even so we checked in the correct time) as Housekeeping was really, really, really taking her time to clean and arrange a normal size room. So we just wondered in the Lobby and went around for a walk. The room was ok to bad. Very uncomfortable beds and it had an awful smell of ammoniac. Bathroom was small and amenities are a Bad Western type of joke. Only 1 device was let for free regarding Wi-Fi and the second you have to pay. Not very convenient to traveler needs. The only pro is that there is a supermarket right next to the property and in my room I had a microwave a small kitchen (no oven) so it was handy. Would I stay here again? No

    « Great location »

This is our third stay at this hotel. The location is fabulous and everything you need is very close. Shopping and lots of food choices close by. Walking distance to the Civic and for this reason we chose this hotel to attend a show. Rooms were clean and tidy. Only complaint is the noise on Friday and Saturday nights from the bungy across from the hotel made it hard for kids to get to sleep. But on the whole location is brilliant!

    3
« Well located but average »

I was actually impressed with the name Corporate studio and it looked great in the photo but I guess a good wide area lens can play tricks on you. Location is fantastic as it's only about 5 minutes walk from Skycity and 10 minutes from Britomart and the viaduct. Didn't like the fact that there is no 24 hours room service available and that parking should have been prebooked which wasn't mentioned on the site.

« Basic but great value for money »

We were a little nervous about staying for 4 nights, as the cost is around a third of other central hotels in the City. However, we were met with most helpful staff on Reception and they had honoured our request of a very high floor. We were amazed to find a large bedroom, clean bathroom, kitchenette and lounge area. It is basic but very clean and ideal if you are wanting to spend most of your time out and about. Very close to all the attractions (Waterfront restaurants, Maritime Museum, ferries to Davenport and Waiheke Island), buses and railway station. Be prepared for noise at night, which no doubt the other hotels suffer from too. It is right in the heart of the City so you do get sirens and young people who want to be out late at night. You do come across some homeless people around and about but we always feel safe in Auckland. So - if you want complete luxury then you must pay for it. If you want a clean base with friendly people and are prepared for the noise of a City at night, then this is fine. If not, stay outside the City and travel in.

    5
    « Great value accommodation »

This is the perfect hotel for a stay in Auckland, handy to everything except close restaurants. There is Sky City close for food but not much else. Otherwise cannot fault anything. Staff were great, room was comfortable and the fact there was a basic kitchen was a real bonus. We will certainly stay here again if we need a hotel in Auckland

« Cheap but not fantastic »

My husband and I visited the Best Western for two nights in April and were left feeling quite disappointed. Our room, although on a high floor as requested, had a view of a car park, and although a considerable distance from the lift all we could hear was the gears and clanging as the lift went up and down and up and down. Not only that the walls were paper thin between the rooms and as we were trying to sleep we could hear someone peeing in the next room. Air conditioning was installed but so loud and clunky that we could barely use it ?? Room service was for breakfast only, no menu was provided and only available from reception. The bed although comfortable was two king singles pushed together (one was slightly higher than the other so there was a lip right in the centre) The staff were friendly and the service to leave your suitcase whilst out was good for our situation. Bathroom was clean and tidy, toiletries were full and smelled nice, kitchen was stocked with tea and coffee and clean. Location was worth the bad experience as it was super close to a lot of attractions, restaurants and bus routes. Would recommend for people on a tight budget.

« Not recommend if you need a good sleep!! »

We were a group of 3 couples aged 55 plus. The noise of the location of this hotel was non stop. The rooms were clean enough and we found the bed very comfortable. We also had a mini van and parking was a nightmare. There is also a 'Sling Shot' right opposite the hotel which adds to the noise. Great if you are young and wish to be in the thick of the city but for my age group I really would recommend you find somewhere else.

    5
« Comfortable and convenient situation »

We liked the king sized bath tub. The steak at dinner was a little tough. It is a convenient location with many restaurants nearby The bed was most comfortable and a good selection of towels The staff were very considerate

    3
« Location at the moment overwhelmed by roadworks ,took 1 hour to move 200 metres in side street adjacent to hotel »

This hotel was very noisy, "Carpark" cost $25.00NZ a night with very poor security close to university area with many non NZ students in the area. average space in the rooms.Dining area only open for breakfast .

« Good value and very central »

Location was great, very central and within walking distance of waterfront and railway station. Very nice staff and great value for the price paid. Comfy bed & clean. Yummy breakfast too. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

« Would advise to go elsewhere »

Stayed in this hotel a week ago, I asked for a room on a high floor after reading previous reviews but were allocated room 405 after being told the hotel was full. The room was overlooking the busy road and adjacent to the lifts. The room smelt of drains, the net curtains and blinds were filthy (no exaggeration). We were only there for 2 nights (thank goodness) so it was not worth the hassle of asking for a room change. However on our first day we completed the room questionnaire and handed it into reception as soon as we could. We mentioned that room 405 had already received an almost similar review to this one in March 2016 and obviously the problems had not been addressed. I accept that this is a budget hotel but even so a good nights sleep is what you pay for whatever the cost and that was not possible. To be fair to paying guests the hotel should seriously consider removing room 405 from their availability. I will be in contact with the management to follow up this review. Not the best example for the worlds biggest hotel group and certainly not the best welcome for our first stay in New Zealand.

« This hotel is REALLY central in Auckland »

The position is hard to beat, the rooms are pretty good, and the parking via the back lane is easy once you find your way. All in all, the convenience of this place makes it a really good selection to stay in central Auckland. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, especially in Chancery, buses are close by, and the ferry terminal and railway station are also really close.

    2
« If you really must »

We arrived on a Saturday evening to find someone lying on the floor outside unconscious and on the opposite side of the road was a woman throwing up on the pavement - not a good impression but I guess with it's city centre location this can't really be helped. Thankfully we had a room on the top floors which meant that once in the room we couldn't see or hear any of that but the room was quite basic. The bed gave me back ache, the shower felt like standing under a leak in the roof and you only get 15 minutes of hot water which between two people isn't really enough. I probably wouldn't stay here again unless I really had to due to cash flow.

    4
    « Good Hotel! »

Clean room, friendly staff, good location. I arrived late at night and they were very welcoming. It was an easy process with no fuss - as was the check out process. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.

    3
« Good for stop by. »

This hotel was good for stop just 1 or 2 night. The good thing about them is they are in the centre of Auckland that you can walk just only 5 minutes to the sky tower or shopping. And actually nothing to say about negative thing except it was old already and staff work pretty slow(but they're very nice).

  • 3
    « Great central location »

City centre hotel near sky tower. Hotel is a bit tired and dated. We had a 2 bed apartment so had cooking facilities and was quite spacious. Bungee ride across the road added to street noise and glazing in Windows didn't help.

    « Beyond expectations »

This hotel needs to improve its website. We saw great reviews, but the hotel exceeded our expectations. We expected a suite, but actually had two bedrooms a large living room eat in kitchen with a large frig freezer, cooktop, sink, and microwave. The food in the cafe was exceptional and moderately priced. Room service is offered. The ground include a well manicured walk by a stream, mini golf, and indoor game room, poop hot tub, volleyball, trampoline, playground, and bochi ball court. The location is excellent at the north end of town across the street from the Kiwi animal park, zorbing, and the adventure park as well as A dinner show. My in laws room included a deck with a personal hot tub. Free parking and excellent customer service. I highly recommend this hotel for families, couples, etc.

    « Location, Location, Location »

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite (Room 706) and found it to be adequate. The room was austere but clean. There was a mini-fridge, micro and pot for boiling water. There were no special touches in the decor; we chuckled over the very small picture hung on the huge wall in the living area. Furniture was functional but not attractive. A second TV in the bedroom would be a nice addition. Front Desk was not well organized. We were given a numbered parking space when we checked-in and paid the parking fee. When we went to park the car, the space was occupied by an employee's car, so we had to wait for her to come and move it. The WiFi password was not provided at check-in, nor was the code in the room, so a second time we waited in line. In fact, there was always a line at the Front Desk and although we had no issues, we overheard quite a few people who did. The only really great comment about the hotel is its location. We parked the car and then walked to everything.

    « A good place to stay »

I stayed here for two nights in November 2015. I arrived after a very long flight to be greeted by friendly and attentive staff who were very helpful for any queries I had. The bedroom I had was clean, spacious and very quiet considering I was staying right in the centre of the city. An excellent location which should be considered for anyone who is on a budget.

    « Estadia en Auckland »

Highly recommended because of the zone, the price and the service. It is the best place to stay. It is an apart hotel with 2 separate bedrooms, living. full equipped kitchen and big bathroom with washer machine. There is an excellent view of the Sky Tower. And there is store outside opened 24 hs which sell everything.

    « Mess management »

Worst hotel ever, all you can feel is old mess lobby and rude staffs. Nowhere to complain and noise can never let u rest. Recommend them turn to self service apartment. It's not a hotel at all. Terrible experience with their manager too. Horrible attitude to customers. Restaurant and car park is disgusting but expensive. Black listed.

    3
« Could be better, could be worse. »

Great central location. Buffet breakfast was disgusting and the lady on the front desk when we arrived 18/03 (around 10am) was very rude and unaccommodating. Overall was comfortable and budget friendly.

    « Janet Webster »

We booked this on the premise that the photo shown on the booking website was what we would get. 1 queen bed and 1 single bed. Thought we would be ok because there was a soft bed in lounge but come bed time this did not work (wouldn't fold out). When we queried with reception were informed there were not for use as a bed.

    « Downtown Auckland »

The room at this Best Western was clean, roomy and comfortable. The staff was friendly. It is located in a very busy section of town and within walking distance of the harbor, the fashion district, the art gallery and the university. Parking is available under the hotel (there is a fee) but you car is off the street in a locked parking area. Breakfast is available but not included in the room fee, plus there is a bar and restaurant. Not a luxury experience, but fine for us.

    3
    « Good Location »

Good location, walking distance to everything downtown, steps away from Skytower. Room was clean, spacious & quiet. Found to be fairly expensive 200$/night for double twin room. Only 30 minutes of free Wifi, only one device allowed to log on per room. Parking lot associated with hotel was full for the evening, had to park behind the hotel and ended up paying 50$ to park for the night. Reception staff not super friendly. Overall alright experience, don't think it was worth the 250$ stay.

    « Good Location »

Stayed here twice on our holiday. Our first room was small and a little tired but it worked for us. The second room was bigger and quite nice. The location is good so you can walk to everything. 20 min walk to the wharf area. The staff arent good at returning emails and when you are a long way away you count on that so that was disappointing. Restaurant never seemed to be open when we went to it, not sure if it was actually open.

« Best location, best spacious room, old building! »

Without doubt it´s located in the best spot to go everywhere in the city. it´s in a walkable distance to some of the main landmarks of the city. Although the building looks very old, it is still funtional. We stayed in a big room in a high level wich was absolutely comfortable, wide and with a nice view. We had a kitchen in the room that allowed us to prepare some food there. The guys at reception were very helpful. You have available right downstairs a gift store and a convenience store to buy everything you need. You can get a restaurants and bars area easyly waking from the hotel heading to the port.

    « Good hotel »

A pretty good hotel to stay in . Room is quite large, plenty of space. Very clean and well stocked. Small kitchen area. Perhaps bathroom could do with a little update, but really nothing wrong with it. Fantastic location, right in the heart of the CBD and good walking distance to public transport and the pier. Bed comfortable king size . Free wifi is a great bonus . Reception ok, bit of a language problem on occasion but friendly and helpful. Only negative ....our room was next to the elevator shaft, we could constantly hear them going up and down. Laundry is available as well.

« Rooms are tired, staff not the most helpful »

Location of this hotel is great, you can easily get to many places quickly by foot. We arrived early and wanted to see if we can get our room before check-in time. Every time I called them (even once before we arrived there) we got different responses. Once they say sure, you can get the room at 11am, then when we arrived they said there were many in the priority list and it wouldn't work before 1.30pm. When I called them again they said 2pm... eventually we got a room around 12:30pm. Parking is not super convenient. They have a safe garage with multiple cameras, but you have to park yourself and it's quite tight. Costing $20/night. The room was clean but very tired and boring. Not a place you enjoy staying at at all. Needs a refresh quickly!

    « Best Down Under »

Been to many BWs in the US and Canada, first time for land down under. This is not a typical BW, more like an upper end high rise hotel. Very nice and large rooms. Hotel staff very helpful, even got us a 4:00 a.m. taxi (at a company discount) to the hotel. Breakfast not free however, but really good.

    « Not happy.wwe »

While this hotel is in a very central position ,our stay there was miserable .on arrival we found the frig in the room wasn't working.called reception .the night manager who arrived ,said on inspection, nothing could be done till the morning one plus he stored our perishables in the hotelkitchens frig.in the morning maintenance arrived and said there is a switch on the wall to turn the frig on.during the night there were strange noises that woke us up.the following night as we had a dawn flight in the morning went to bed early.the noise started with a vengeance,a strange whooshing sound that fluctuated in intensity.called reception who sent a person to check it out .his explanation was it came from the lifts immediately adjacent to our room, and shrugged it off as not worthy of complaint.called reception again asking for a change of room ,to be told sorry we are full but we can offer you some ear plugs.on the positive side we spent two weeks in New Zealand starting from Queenstown ,travelling by car and staying in a variety of acommodation, with nothing but praise for the facilities on offer.best western president Auckland lift your game!

« Ignored our online request »

We booked through Expedia and requested a high floor and a parking space, both requests ignored. Reception blamed Expedia for not sending through all the information but let slip they had read the request for a high floor, I'm sure Expedia don't cut and paste requests. We ended up with a room on the fourth floor, not recommended, both nights we had a lot of outside noise. This is a city centre hotel so you would expect there to be a lot of noise outside, the PROBLEM was our room did not have DOUBLE GLAZING to reduce the noise level, so we could hear everything that was going on outside, double glazing is something you would expect to have in a city centre hotel. Would not recommend this hotel if you were looking for a quiet night, which is a shame as it is in very good location.

    5
    « Very Nice! »

We were pleasantly surprised by how quiet the hotel was. In particular, we didn't have any noise from our neighbors on the 12th floor. Friday night there was noise from outside the hotel till late, and I suspect that Saturday would be the same. The other 3 nights were remarkably quiet considering our central location. The buffet breakfast was good value and is recommended. Elevators were quick and prompt when called. The laundry room onsite was very convenient. The hotel computer was helpful for printing boarding passes, with the help of the manager when needed. I can highly recommend this hotel for its service and location! Take the Airport Bus to Queen St, only 5' away on foot.

    « Really central location »

I stayed at the hotel for 1 night and thought the location was amazing - right opposite Sky City. The staff were very friendly but I thought the room could have done with a refresh as it seemed a bit of a mix match of furniture. Check Out took the best part of 45 minutes with 2 loads of cruise passengers arriving and departing at the same time - but staff dealt with efficently. Otherwise great stay in great location.

    « Well located,, comfortable »

Arriving in a new country can be daunting, not so with this hotel. It is very well located in the heart of town, close to attractions, restaurants and good cheap supermarket shopping to bypass expensive mini bar expenses. We stayed for two nights prior to collecting a rental car, from within walking distance, before moving on to continue our NZ experience. The rear of the hotel offers easy loading of luggage for your onward journey. You do not need to have a car if just staying in Auckland,, it is an easy town to get around by foot. Greg

« Do NOT Try to Drive Here! »

I am not exaggerating one second when I tell you that we located this hotel on our GPS and that it took OVER AN HOUR to actually get there when we were only four blocks away. The traffic was horrific. When we finally pulled up, we realized that they had no place for a car to park or stand. I ran in and they told me we had to go around to the back to unload our car! This took another 40 minutes. By the time we had our stuff unloaded and returned the car to the rental agency, we were totally exhausted. Yes, the hotel room was larger and slightly cheaper then the Copthorne but had we known had hard it was to get to by car, we would have stayed at the Copthorne another night--even tough that place was dingy and tiny!!!!

    « Great location »

This hotel is in a great location, it is very clean and we had a large room with a great view of the Sky tower. Unfortunately room 405 was also opposite the orb ride, so we had to put up with squealing people at times throughout the evening. We had asked for a quiet room and it was also next to the lifts. The room was clean but had a musty smell.

myself and four friends booked separate rooms. two booked corporate rooms and three booked studio. was not impressed to find that the studio rooms (cheaper option) had better, bigger rooms on higher floors 5,6 and 7 with better views. corporate rooms were on level one and had the loud noise of roadworks all night. was not ideal and would not stay here again. the only good thing about it was it was in the middle of the city

« CBD prime location hotel at a reasonable price »

Our family room with two bedrooms and two bathrooms and the small kitchen in between. Our key concern was the ventilation in the 2nd room without windows and air conditioner. Only an electric fan was provided which was insufficient. No ventilation in the bathrooms either which must be improved! The bed mattresses were too soft and not too comfy. Cleanliness is fine and staff service is great. Location is excellent at CBD close to Sky City.

    « Good central location »

We were a family of five adults looking for a central location. I selected the Best Western President Hotel as I was able to get a 2 bedroom unit for us and it was in a perfect spot. I was a little worried as there were a few negative comments about the property, but we were pleasantly surprised by everything. First of all, we were given a 3-bedroom unit instead of a 2-bedroom, which was greatly appreciated! Secondly, it was very well appointed with comfortable beds and a nice large living area. The staff were also very helpful and took care of arranging our transportation needs to the airport. As mentioned before, the location is absolutely perfect. One block from the Sky Tower and a half block away from Queen Street. You are a short distance from the busy waterfront and everything is within walking distance. Though certainly not "luxurious" it was everything we were looking for.

« UNINSPIRING, SHODDY & LESS THAN ADEQUATE »

I stayed on the first floor of this hotel. The room was very nice, the shower hot and the towels fresh. However the noise from outside ALL NIGHT LONG drove me to distraction. The hotel backs onto a large shopping/entertainment complex. There are vehicles collecting rubbish and making deliveries all night, and I mean all night. I complained to the hotel who lied about what the problem was and frankly didn't care at all. I made four calls about the noise. Had the hotel soundproofed the room it would have been fine but they didn't. They could have moved me to a room higher up but they didn't do that either. Reception closes at midnight so any issue after that and there is no one to assist until 8am the following morning. I complained and the hotel did absolutely nothing. It just didn't care

    « Impressive! »

This hotel is in a perfect downtown location. We booked through bookings.com and were not sure what type of room we would be assigned. Our room was lovely. We had a living room with a large desk, sofa and coffee table. Our room had plenty of light. The kitchen was efficient as was the bathroom. It was all very, very clean. We had a stunning view of the Sky Tower which was beautiful at night. The front desk staff was nice and professional no matter how many times we asked the same or a dumb question. All sorts of restaurants are a step away. The grocery store is two doors away. Just a block to Queen Street with all it offers. Ten minutes will get you to the waterfront. Take a ferry to Devonport. The views looking back at the city are stunning. Would stay here anytime in a heartbeat.

    « Great hotel »

I needed a hotel on a bed-only basis for one night. The room was lovely and great value, and the people staffing the service counter were lovely. The central Auckland CBD location was very handy, yet surprisingly quiet.

    2
    « Unpleasant experience »

Location is strategic as the hotel lies in the heart of the city. Everything is within reach. Perhaps this is the reason why my wife and I find it difficult to sleep due to the execessive noise at night. Also, the room ventilation is bad and smells. Is a shame that the hotel does not provide adequate toileteries. And, the restaurant staff is quite rude...

« Ok room for single night - a bit expensive »

The location is ideal just off Queen Street, and just 400metres from the Civic. Accommodation is basic and a bit tired. The air conditioning was very noisy in our 7th floor room. Cleanliness was OK. One thing I did like was it had a window you could open to let fresh air in. At night there were cooking smells so was closed, but it was good during the day. I would stay here again if going to another show and needed a room for a single night. However with a cost of $228, I might be looking for specials first.

    « terrible »

Unexpectedly, Auckland city center is a very noisy city, with a constant traffic jam,lot of air pollution, luckily there is a sea breeze to ventilate a little this skyscraper canyons. And only three lines of city buses as a public transport. So everybody is using a car. The name of the hotel is really high sounding, Best Western President. But,paying such money one would expect a hotel. Instead, one gets a shabby old worn room, ugly furniture and a horrible noise outside, coming in to the room through a single glazed window (!), no protection at all.The air condition, an old box in the room, produced even more noise, so the question was which noise one prefers. Seems there are huge cooling systems near all the rooms with number 1 on any floor, maybe from the near supermarket cooling systems. And that was the result, when we asked the reception for a quiet room. Not to speak about the hotel lobby, two couches in front of the high speed elevators. Avoid.

    « Basic. »

Typical city centre basic hotel--good position though for getting around the city and near the Skytower.Plenty of places to eat nearby but no free wi-fi and you can wait a long time to check-in but if it is a short stay ok because of position but for longer would look elsewhere.

« For the price fully OK »

This hotel is nothing special, but for the price you would not expect this. I had a rather small room with hardly any space to put my suitcase (I wonder how 2 persons will stay for several nights in such a room with their luggage), but the room was recently renovated, clean, nicely furnished and well equipped. The location of the hotel is excellent, very close to restaurants, shops and several attractions. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking needs to be reserved, and this is definitely recommended as you will not easily find parking for your car in this part of the city. Negative is the bad sound insulation: if you have a person in the next room which seems to suffer from a bladder problem and therefore uses the toilet every two hours you are in for a much disturbed night.... Also the roadnoise can be annoying if you don't have a good sleep, so a room in one of the higher floors is recommended. However, then you have to show some patience for the very slow elevators.... As a summary, this is a good hotel for a decent price - don't expect too much, but then it does not have 5 stars and not not pretend to. I would certainly stay here again.

« If only they provided WiFi »

This hotel, in the heart of the city would have gotten a 5 star rating had they provided the guest rooms with WiFi. The other issue was parking, we had booked thru a travel service and understood their would be an additional daily charge for parking, however, upon check in we were told parking had to be arranged 2 days in advance. There is a parking garage within walking distance, but to have to find the parking garage, then haul our luggage up the hill, then down another street after 31 hours of airports and flights was a bit much....

« Good location, but the hotel is in need of serious renovations »

We booked the Best Western President because it is located in the center of Auckland. For that standpoint, it is definitely in the heart of the city. However, the rooms are dated and everything needs to be replaced. Our original room had a non-operational air conditioning unit. They sent the housekeeper to look at it. I went to the desk to let them know, and there was no one from the maintenance department to check it. They did change the room. The check in was very slow because there was one person at the desk on a very long extended call, The bed had a very old mattress because I could feel the spring popping up. Breakfast in the dining room is a buffet and for $20 NZ, it is only fair for what they serve, Denny's is just up on the same street so there is an option. The lobby is small, so on the check out day, there was mass confusion as many people were on the same cruise as we, and many others were checking in after completing their cruise. The only way we could get a taxi was to flag one down from the other side of the street. The hotel definitely needs improvements.

« very much near to sky tower »

well located hotel in auckland city .just walkable distance from auckland sky tower, and small shopping areas.we stayed suit with small hall, kitchen ,two bed rooms with washing machine. negative part is the airconditioner is in the hall not in the bed room.

« Central location and helpful staff »

The central location of this hotel is it's best point, though the exterior is unprepossessing. It's close to the sky tower and the waterfront . The staff were helpful. Having landed in Auckland at 5am in the morning they brought our room forward from 2 pm up to 12 noon but we did drop luggage there.. There were warnings about using too much hot water! The room itself was comfortable and clean but rather noisy. The hotel is quite close to fairly boisterous backpack hostels. It was quite expensive but we had to have a suite, no double rooms left! But Auckland is expensive.

    « Great stay »

We booked on the day we were staying our family of 7 and had no trouble with that and parking and the price was excellent, we had great service checking in and out, this is the second time we have stayed and enjoyed it, will definitely be staying again, the room was clean and tidy, a very smooth stay.

    « Conveniently located accommodation »

Located in the very heart of Auckland, the President Hotel provides a comfortable and welcoming option. Within walking distance of shops, restaurants and attractions such as the Skytower, it offers a warm charm and comfortable amenities. Our room was very spacious with a full service bathroom, kitchen facilities, air conditioning and a great view of the city including the Tower. The staff were very obliging. I had been warned by my travel agent to pre-book parking as it was limited. Enjoyable stay.

    « Had a lovely stay »

Rooms were very nice and clean. Had a great view. The bathroom was clean as well and very spacious. The bedroom was a bit small though. The service was great. The only disappointment was the parking which was limited. It would have been nice if every room had a parking spot. We had to park in the Wilson carpark which didn't look too safe. Besides that downfall, we had a great stay.

    4
    « Good sized room »

The hotel is right in the middle of the city with shops and restaurants close by so it was very convenient. We had a very big room with a kitchenette. It was very very clean. You do have to pay extra for parking. Get directions exactly where it is first as its a bit hard to find in the street as it has a small frontage and is among shops.

    « Average. »

The room we had was on the front and was of a good size. With a good size shower room. All very clean. On check in the evening staff were not very helpful or friendly. On the evening before leaving I asked the man on reception to order a taxi for the morning, however in the morning when I asked the female receptionist to confirm the booking it had been forgotten. She was very helpful and ordered for me. In the reception area there were always people hanging around and the whole area was a bit dowdy.

« Horrible for a Best Western, especially in the city »

My wife and I stayed here on our very first night in NZ and were all kinds of let down from this hotel. I've stayed at Best Westerns before, and while not the best hotels around, they usually aren't garbage either. This one was. For starters, the room was incredibly small. When I say small, I mean I had to step over my luggage on the floor just to navigate the room. Second, they only allow you ONE device to connect to the wifi. Sorry, I'm in a different country. I have a cell phone, my wife has a cell phone, and I have a computer to research things on. That's completely unacceptable. Third, they charge $25 extra just to park in their garage. We elected to stay in a competitor's garage for what was supposed to be cheaper (Wilson said they were charging $15 for an overnight stay, but for some reason I ended up paying $36--still fighting that battle). Finally, there was no fan in the bathroom and no lock for the bathroom door.

    1
« Pre -Paid Hotel Voucher »

Had a pre-paid hotel voucher via British Airways which the hotel refused to accept, although they could see a credit card from BA on their system. Insisted that I pay for Hotel stay with my credit card. I am now attempting to get money paid on my credit card back. The pre-paid hotel voucher for hotel in Hong Kong which I used en-route to Auckland was accepted with no problems

« great location in the CBD »

the location was very convenient for all areas of the CBD. The family rooms with the two double beds and two bathrooms were best for our family. although the wifi was limited it did allow one person to connect. others could go to the lobby for a 30minute wifi allowance per device.

    3
    « Convenient »

The hotel is located in the center of Auckland and in walking distance to the shuttle bus to the airport. There is a supermarket next door. The surroundings are a bit seedy but don't seem to be unsafe. The empolyees were very friendly and helpful. It was possible to store luggage for a week for no fee. As it is not too expensive, I would stay there again.

    3
    « Value for money »

In terms of value for money, the room rates are cheap and you pay for what it is worth. View is decent as you still get a view of the central city but it depends on which room you get, location wise it is pretty good, because it is located right at the centre of the city. However, it is noisy because of it's location, example loud cars, noisy drunk people etcetc. Still a decent hotel for the rate it charges.

    3
    « Great location »

I was a bit worried after reading some of the other reviews but we were pleasantly surprised with our 2 bedroom appartment. Yes the hotel is slightly dated but our unit was spacious and very clean. The room was serviced and towels replaced daily. The air con was old and a bit noisey but it was so hot we didnt care. We had one small issue at 11pm the first night of our stay and someone came up immediately to fix it. The location was very handy to sky tower and bus stops and a supermarket. For longer stays it is a good option due to its spacious 2 bedroom units and great location, I would consider booking this hotel again.

    « Top 10 Reasons... »

Dollar for dollar, Best Western President in Auckland offers good value. Pros and cons? Mostly pro's: *comfortable room for our 2 night stay. Large TV and good temperature control. *good bed, we had wonderful sleeps. *quiet room (608). *pleasant competent staff; including Jade at check-in and Romeo who booked our airport Super Shuttle - very smooth. *fabulous location, we walked our buns off gawking at this city's distinctive architecture, parks, and shoreline. Tip: take the guided Auckland City Walking tour which starts near the ferry terminal. *We walked 3 short blocks to Denny's (near the SkyTower) for a tasty, reasonably priced breakfast. *Fitness centre is pretty good. It has water, towels, a treadmill, an elliptical, a bike, a resistance contraption, and a good assortment of free weights with a bench. The temperature in this room runs hot, so be prepared. *21st century wi-fi was the only possible "con" as it costs extra. Each room comes with "complimentary" wifi for one device. To use up to 3 devices it costs an additional $10 a day or $15 for two days. We opted for for $15 plan.

    « Disappointing »

First impressions of the hotel lobby are more like a busy station concourse or backpackers hostel rather than a three/four star city centre hotel. The general décor in the lobby and lift areas is drab and uninspiring. However the room was adequate and clean albeit that the window opened out to view the adjacent building about 2metres away. The location is the best attribute of the President, just across the road from Sky Tower and a short walk down hill to the main shopping areas on Queen Street. The Ferry Building is about 15minutes walk. There are also many cafes and restaurants available in the immediate locality.

Great and clean very friendly awesome location in middle of cbd everything was walkable loved it staff were friendly and fast wifi the rooms were very clean, spacious, tidy, clean and comfortable beds awesome place to stay at great work...

« Quality rooms, great breakfast »

The single rooms have a great bathroom, small kitchenette with fridge and water, and a good sized TV. It's comfy and well-equipped and well-maintained. Near the Sky Tower. Only issue is construction right outside the room so it can get loud in the morning (however this is clearly not the fault of the hotel). The breakfast is gold standard - hot and cold items on a buffet. Well worth it! Paid wifi is good (not great).

    3
« Prepare to be underwhelmed »

This is a basic hotel that works very hard to stretch itself to gain 3 stars. The best thing I can say is the rooms are clean. The staff are generally disengaged and not prepared to offer a great deal of help. The breakfast room is odd but the food is edible. Once again the staff are rather unfriendly. The hotel is very close to the sky tower and an easy 10 minute walk to the harbour. It's also very close to Queen St and the shopping precinct. The immediate area of the hotel is somewhat seedy with beggars and grotty stores. If it's really cheap book it otherwise look around.

    3
    « Handy location »

Great location to the water front and access to the tourist shops down town. The rooms are clean and tidy. It is an older style building with a lot to be desired in the way of car parking. This definitely needs to be pre booked as their are only a handful of car spaces. If you have a car that is average or large in size consider parking somewhere else. We had a small Toyota to park and it was very difficult trying to manoeuvre in such a tight spot. The restaurant is only a select menu that is a bit pricy and more like a pub style. When we were there one of the two lifts was out of order and as it has about 12 floors it took awhile for the lift to come.

    4
    « Great location »

My husband recently spent 2 night here and found the location to be perfect for accessing the waterfront for ferry travel. It is an older hotel and needs a bit of updating in furnishings but had a great shower and TV. We also appreciated the kitchenette and ability to reheat takeaway food such as pizza we had 1 night from Sal's, which was great. The bed was also very comfortable and we liked the ability to open some of the Windows. We had a great view of Skytower also !!!

    « Superb Staff »

I would like to thank a very VERY special manager name Raj. He was incredibly helpful with a personal matter I was dealing with back home in Canada and helped with scanning a document so that I could email it home. You are a lifesaver my friend and were a huge help for me during my stay! thank you again Raj

« lacking in every aspect »

from the start it was bad with a muck up in the booking. then when we get to the room the concrete slabs considered beds were set up as singles not as doubles as requested. the lift doors shut on people in our group three times. breakfast was avarage at best and at 9.40 they stopped serving juice because breakfast was finishing soon. I would not stay here again. oh and the people in the room next door cooked curry and stunk our room out. compensation was free parking. of it wasn't so late when we checked in. we would have left.

« Excellent value for a good night's sleep in central city »

We booked a Superior Studio room for an one night stop and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was well located close to a SkyBus stop (for travel to the Airport) and was in a quiet location just off Queen Street. The room was large and well appointed with a very comfortable King sized bed and small kitchen. There is a supermarket on the street and we bought supplies for a light breakfast there. It was substantially cheaper than the major name hotels nearby and excellent value.

    5
« Great location and good room »

Hotel is located very close to the Sky tower, in the heart of CBD. Room was nice and spacious, it had a kitchen too. Reception is open till late at night, which is not a norm in New Zealand. Wifi is available on one device inside the room, which is also quite rare in NZ :) Convenience store is right next door. International airport is a bit far but super shuttle picked us up from the hotel and it was very convenient&quick. I think it's good value for money since that Auckland is a bit city so rates will be a bit higher than smaller towns.

    « A bit Tired »

Great location on Victoria Street opposite Sky Tower and near the main street of shops. The room was sufficient, good size, clean and decent beds. Shower was good too. However, the rooms and communal areas décor is looking tired. Highly recommend the Albert Street food hall from great home cooked/ street food Eastern food at good prices.

    3
« Great location outdated facilities »

I stayed at this hotel in January 2016 for holidays. The hotel's location was within walking distance to all the attractions in CBD. However, like other reviewers mentioned, the facilities were outdated and need substantial upgrade. Stale smelling in the lobby area, but the room was clean. With similar price I'd choose other modern hotels nearby.

    3
« Good location... nothing else »

Hotel was quite dated. Rooms were clean, but stale smelling. We had two bedrooms, surrounding a kitchenette, both very, very old. Not modern at all. At most Best Westerns, you get breakfast with your room. Not so here - and breakfast is not cheap. However, the hotel is within walking distance of EVERYTHING but the airport (45 minutes out, and you take a shuttle for that). We walked everywhere. Restaurants galore within walking distance. We even walked to the cruise ship terminal, towing our luggage. If you are looking for modern, with modern conveniences, this is not the place to stay. If all you care about is sleep and location to other amenities, this place is great.

    4
« Solid option, great location »

It doesn't get much more convenient than this property. We booked late and got a 3 bedroom apartment, way more room than we needed, but it was nice. You can walk anywhere in Auckland CBD froth is hotel! There is a 24hr convenient store right outside.

    3
« Has the basics down »

Well presented as a clean and reasonably sized room with division into separate bedroom, bathroom and kitchenette space. Staff were accommodating and polite but didn't go out of their way to be helpful. Limited channels on the tv, however, good location, close to Sky tower and a 10 minute or so walk down to the Harbour. Parking was $25 a night and needed to be pre booked, the space allocated to us was tiny and we feared our rental would get damaged. They also insist on holding the car keys at the front desk so they can move your car if need be, which we felt uncomfortable with as I'm sure any damage would be at our cost.

    « Fantastic Location »

Stayed at Best Western President Hotel on 02-04 Jan. First time in NZ... Didn't know what to expect. Well... Firstly, complimentary parking is a given in Oz (especially if it's a 4-star hotel); apparently not at Best Western President, Auckland! We've had to pay $25(NZD) per night for the privilege of parking our vehicle at this inconspicuous, very tight parking space. No one was available to assist us w our luggage...not sure if that's how they do it in NZ?? Fortunately, we've strong muscles (i.e. our husbands) to help carry our heavy luggage. The room's okay; quite dated, smells a bit musty..but what we appreciate is its size. It has a small lounge area, which doubled as 2nd bedroom for our daughter. As for Wi-Fi, well... only one device is allowed access & very poor signal at that. The hotel is centrally located, so apart from driving to the beach & airport, most places are just within walking distance. If I were to return, I would look at other accommodations in the area before Best Western President.

    3
« Great location, average hotel »

If you want a perfect location in downtown Auckland and you will be spending a lot of time outside the hotel, this could be your hotel. The hotel sits right next to the Sky Tower, with great access to restaurants, shopping and grocery. We had the 2 bedroom and it was spacious enough for 4. Our AC did not work well and as it was around Xmas time, could not get fixed. The staff did bring some fans to help the situation and the milder temps made it manageable. The rooms are basic - if all you want is a great location and average rooms, Best Western serves this purpose. The warehouse grocery store 2 doors down is excellent for food and grocery shopping.

    3
« Great location and room size but ... »

We checked in on NYE and loved the location and room size - perfect place for all of the New Years festivities. We paid for car parking for two days and followed the directions provided by the desk clerk to get to parking behind the hotel. The clerk did not tell us the car park was inside the hotel, so we parked in bay 12 at a car park which unfortunately was not the right car park so we were fined $65. So all up the car parking cost us $115. Sadly no apology for the vague directions nor an offer to refund us for the unused car parking. Disappointing way to end our stay in Auckland, especially after the same clerk gave us the wrong directions to get to the Skybus.

    4
    « A bit tired »

A little disappointed with our accommodation location. The bed in the main room filled the room and you had to inch past the corner of the bed to get to the other side or roll over the bed. There was no shelving in the wardrobe to pack clothes. Our room faced a busy street where there was a bungy rocket chair contraption that seemed to only start up around midnight. There was also a night club near by where we could hear all the noise. Not a lot of sleep was had as a result even though we were on the 8th floor. The elevators are used by the cleaners and guests which made it a long wait each time. Overall the place needs a major revamp. It's tired and well used.

    5
    « Excellent Choice »

Great hotel with great amenities. Our room had a full kitchen and was clean and quiet. They offer free wifi only for one device. There is a free wifi in the lobby for the duration of 1/2 an hour. The supermarket Countdown is a next door and the Sky tower is just across the street. The main bus station is next to the tower.

    « Fantastic location »

We stayed at the Best Western from 28 November to 30 November. It's location is excellent, literally less than a block to the Skytower and very close to Queens St. There's plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Our room was clean and well appointed. The staff were great. We would definitely stay here again if ever we were in Auckland.

    2
    « Disappointing »

When we booked we were not told that we had to pre-book parking; we were told they didn't have any more room and to go to a public car park, which was a block or so away. There is no easy place/safe to unload luggage in the front of the hotel and the back entrance has quite a few stairs to haul your luggage up. The free internet didn't work properly and was very limited. The hotel staff was not helpful, we wanted to add our Best Western frequent number to receive points and were told that we could not do that. The check-out was laborious and slow. When we checked in the car park we found that there were lots of empty parking spaces and we checked early in the morning, before most people got on the road. A very disappointing stay.

    4
« Close to Sky Tower and Queens Street »

We've stay 1 night at this hotel in Dec. 2015. We took the Skybus from airport to Queens Street and walk about 7 minutes to hotel. We got a room in high floor with street view. There is a cafe in the hotel but no lunch or dinner provided. Not a problem as the hotel is just a few minutes' walk to Sky Tower and go for shopping in Queens Street. Room is clean and comfortable.

« Like the huge living room and facilities for our 2 bedroom apartment »

We arrived late at around 9.45 pm on Monday nite and drove straight to Durham Lane for the hotel car parking entrance as we had pre-booked for a parking space. Talked through the intercom at the parking entrance and was later given the reserved parking spot, no. 24 at sub-basement. The roller shuttle for the parking entrance was opened and we drove in to park our vehicle at the assigned parking spot. As highlighted before in this forum, parking space quite tight but we managed to park our rented Hyundai Santa Fe. We had also pre-arranged for our vehicle rental company, Go Rental to collect this vehicle the next morning at this hotel. Used the lift to reception counter on the ground floor and check-in was smooth as we had pre-booked a 2 bedroom apartment for 2 nites. Our room at level 11, room no. 1103 has 2 bedrooms with one washroom and a huge living area. All beds had been arranged as per our requirement via email communication during our booking as there were 5 of us as adults. There was 2 single beds in each bedroom and one single bed set-up in the living room. What I like is that the single bed in the living room is not using the roll away type of bed but a proper single bed. All beds were comfortable to sleep in. Found room quiet without noise from the streets as the room is facing the building housing Countdown supermarket on its ground floor and also facing Crombie Lockwood building, ie not facing Victoria Street West below. The huge living area with sofa lounge, big flat TV, dining table with chairs, a desk with chair and the very well equip kitchen is also located. This kitchen has an electric stove, oven, microwave, toaster, dish washer, big fridge and all cutleries, glasses and plates are provided. There was also a washing machine and dryer which save us to spend some expenses to do laundry at their common laundry room. As also mentioned quite often in this forum, the free 24 hours Wifi for only 1 device should be looked into as to enhance the service to its guest. Another is the cost of parking at the hotel basement which is not cheap. Overall I like the room we stayed in for the great facilities and the huge living room. There is a 24 hours convenient grocery store just next door and the Countdown supermarket just few doors away which close at 10 pm. Another key point for this place is its good location at CBD or downtown. It can also arrange the Super Shuttle transport to the airport or if one prefer, can use the Skybus passing through the nearby Queen Street to/fro airport. As this room rate is not cheap, the room facilities, cleanliness of the room and washroom with good housekeeping, comfortable beds and its good location for the 5 of us was worth the value of the room.

« Value for money in the centre of Auckland, rooms are very average but spacious »

Rooms are clean, functional, large enough. Bit old but maintained, very centrally located. Stayed during the weekdays and was generally quite and comfortable, beds are nice. Good for business travel, functional but not luxurious. Would stay again

« Nice inner city accommodation »

This is perfect for a couple of nights away when you don't plan to spend a great deal of time at the hotel. Room was comfortable as was the bed and ensuite was good. Hairdryer did not work. I did not find the hotel nosy and had a great sleep. The staff at entrance are pretty casual but friendly. The lifts do not work the best, a bit slow and tend to not go to the right floor. We went to breakfast and it was a very good buffet. I would stay here again, great location just a couple of minutes to Sky City and just about on Queen Street.

    3
    « Sorry, am I bothering you? »

The location of this hotel was great, right in town and the hotel was clean and tidy. However this was all soiled by the front of house staff member who checked me in. I had pre booked and pre paid but this was still obviously too much work for the team member behind the desk. A smile would have been nice, or even a hello? ** pre book parking if it is req **

    « Good for a stopover »

The hotel was very good once you got into your room. This is a simple, inexpensive hotel suitable for a one-night stay. I picked it because it was very close to the Airport bus stops. It was also handy for shops, the art gallery and public open spaces (with deckchairs). A supermarket is two doors down, and there are plenty of eating places the other side of the main road. The room was a bit like an apartment and quite comfortable and well-appointed in a style reminiscent of my London digs in the early 1980s. Practical though and we had a good night's sleep. Reception staff were very good and helpful looking after our luggage until the afternoon.

    3
« Old place to stay »

Very old and dated however it was very clean, staff were all friendly. Make sure you pre book a car park otherwise it will end up costing you a fortune to park around the corner. Was very close to supermarkets shops bars restaurants etc. no views only one window to open so it got very stuffy. The air con unit was very old and it smelt like it was burning when we turned it on. the toilet did not flush. More towels in the rooms would be good.

« Good quality budget accomodation »

We recently stayed at the Best Western, it was our first time staying in this chain of hotels and were pleased with the facilities as well as the central location. For a city centre hotel it was extremely quiet and well appointed. They were also an ecofriendly property.

    « Good Auckland base »

We stayed at this hotel for two nights upon arrival for a one-month New Zealand vacation. It's location was perfect for walking to all the main Auckland sights. Our suite room was huge, very adequate, and quiet. The hotel seemed pretty empty while we were there. There is a convenient grocery story next door. The hotel is next to the Sky Tower so it is easy to find when walking or driving.

    « Great location! »

Perfect downtown location where we could walk just about anywhere. Very clean with comfortable bed. Grocery store a few steps away. Intercity Bus station was a few blocks away, as well as the SkyCity Tower. We were able to walk to the Airport express bus on Queen Street. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Would stay there again.

    « Best Western Auckland »

This was actually a very pleasant stay. Great location in the heart of the city. Only a short walk to anywhere within the city. The people on the counter where very friendly and efficient. It's not graded 5 star so don't expect 5 star and you wont be disappointed.

    3
« Good location but can be noisy »

Central location, clean rooms, front staff is friendly and helpful. Can be a bit noisy if your room is facing victoria street. Also, the building is old and the walls rather thin. Could hear my neighbors talking, shower, toilet flushing, etc. Gym is tiny and equipment is oudated.

    3
    « Above average hotel »

Receptionists there tend to have selective amnesia and will forget to get things done when asked to like calling up tour companies for a receipt. I specifically told them on the day of my departure that an email would do but didn't receive email up to now. Otherwise, they're pretty prompt when booking tours

« Huge clean rooms, but felt a bit old and not the friendliest checkin staff »

If you need somewhere to stay in the city with a few people this hotel is ideal. The two room suite I had was massive with a good kitchen and living room and two generous sized bedrooms. There were even laundry services! The views out the windows were really cool too giving a good range of city views. The hotel is really well located in the centre of the city and there are adequate paid parking options nearby. The hotel itself however felt a bit more run down / older than you might expect. Parts were nice, other aspects in need of a bit of love and the lifts could use some maintenance to make them run smoother! The checkin staff did their job... but weren't exactly friendly or efficient. Overall it wasn't bad and I would stay again if I needed a hotel with certain attributes unique to here. If I was just after a room there are probably better options.

    « Loud on weekends »

It's located in the city centre so very convenient to walk around everywhere, they also offer parking onsite for $25 overnight but make sure you prebook. The rooms are simple, neat and clean, nothing fancy. Be careful staying here on the weekend, fri and sat nights it seems all the young teens stay here and go out and party. From 11pm - 2am there were loud banging on the doors from these guys trying to get it and wake each up, they were yelling obscenities, creating lots of noise, non stop noise throughout several hours, so perhaps not the best place to stay if you want peace and quiet.

« Great Location in Central Auckland »

Located in Central Auckland - this hotel is close to everything! Countdown (Woolworths) is 4 or 5 shops away, as is the main shopping strip. Sky Tower is a stone's throw away and there is an abundance of restaurants within walking distance. We had a suite with two rooms, a share bathroom, lounge, and kitchen. The living area was compact but you don't go on holidays to stay in your hotel. It is a tad tired and could do with a makeover and the carpets are due for a good shampoo. Free 24 hour wi-fi for 1 device and only $15.00 for three. In room safe is provided. Reception was more than helpful. Would stay here again - purely for location.

« Good Value in Downtown Auckland »

Centrally located in the CBD and steps to all major attractions ? Sky City and SkyTower, Albert Park, University grounds, Aotea Centre, downtown malls and shops. Lots of nice places all around to eat. It was a moderate uphill walk from Queens wharf where our ship docked to the hotel ? no need to take a taxi if you don't want to, plus they will also store your luggage if you arrive early so you can start exploring the city immediately. Room was good sized, clean, with a coffee machine and in-room safe. Free wi-fi, plus there are computer/printer facilities to print out your airline passes etc. Also if you want the Hotel will pre-book the Super Shuttle to take you to the airport - great for early morning departures. Note that the hotel reception and front door closes after midnight (make sure you have your room key with you if you are going out), but there is a front counter button you can press to summon the night duty attendant. Overall good stay and good value.

    « We Returned »

Great central location. We have stayed there before when we have come up for concerts and find it great for being able to walk everywhere. A short walk to the free buses put on to Mt Smart and to all the eating places and ferries. Best thing this trip was that we got an upgrade for no extra cost.

Nice Stay. good rooms. Inside City. Provides Parking Facility @ cost. Transportation Easily Available.Opposite to Sky Tower. So many restaurant & cafes nearby. would recommend to stay.suggesting hotel to cut down some cost in parking charges & have some more Vegetarian food option in break fast.

    « 905 »

We were in room 905 for two nights. We faced the slingshot ride so got to hear a lot of screaming and laughing. Didn't bother us but might bother you. Reception was good and quick. WiFi is free for one device per 24 hours. Room is very spacious and clean with loads of light. Bathroom also roomy and clean but does need a little bit more love. Location is great, can't beat it but I wouldn't say this place is family friendly but for couples and young ones it's not to bad.

« Disappointing - could be a great location but it's let down by staff »

We have a three bedroom family room, quite comfortable and of a good size. The location is good, and staff pleasant but unfortunately do not do much to assist. Internet access is terrible, don't plan of using their wi-fi, it's unreliable and slow. Told the internet company will call in five minutes, never happens. One of the reasons we took this hotel is I could work and travel at the same time, but the promise of hi speed fibre internet is false. Lifts are painfully slow, and regularly out of service. They require a $100 per day authorisation for rooms which are pre-paid. So our five day trip, which was paid for in advance, still required an additional $500 on hold on a credit card. Carpet is dirty and worn. Could do with an upgrade of the fitout but it's still quite presentable. First thing is to bring yourself into the digital age so that clients can access the net, second is to have the lifts working.

    « Amazing location »

Hotel very well situated near the sky tower. We had a superior triple room with a kitchenette with kettle, fridge, microwave and cutlery, glasses and plates. On 7th floor, very spacious. Lots of windows, double aspect. Ensuite with a shower and toilet but the extractor fan either just didn't work or there wasn't one. Room was a bit stuffy and you felt it needed some ventilation. Otherwise very clean, large tv. Wifi only free for 1 device. An offer at the hotel was - You pay for a second device for 24hrs and get a free breakfast, (breakfast $20, offer $26). Breakfast by reception up a short staircase leading to a fairly small room. Didn't feel big enough for all the guests and not enough staff working. Breakfast was ok but you had to wait for refils.Reception was very busy due to cruise ship guests arriving and the staff found finalising bills very difficult. Communication via breakfast room staff to reception poor. Bills before us were wrong, ours was wrong and others with different staff were wrong too, so do check what you have been charged for. Car parking is paid for and the car park is very small.

« Quite Out Dated but Good Location »

The hotel in need of a refurbishment, it's a bit too 90's for me. Staff was friendly and helpful. This is the charm of the hotel and of course the location. Was staying on the 13 floor but i can still hear the traffic below. and the room are always cold and the air condition is not even switch on.

    3
    « Comfortable but »

Stayed there for two nights. The room was comfortable and came fully equip with kitchen and laundry. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. The amenities in the bathroom were lovely and ecofriendly. Even though it had a laundry there was no clothes washing liquid. We had breakfast at the buffet on the ground level which was $20pp. It seemed like an ok price but the breakfast was very basic and not worth $20. I wouldn't recommend going to the buffet as the hotel is near the harbour and there are lovely breakfast places down there. The gym was very small and had all the normal gym equipment. The people at the front desk were helpful and pleasant though they could crack a smile every now and then. The only issue I really had with the President was the lack of WiFi, it didn't work very well in own room which was on level 11. You also had to get a password from the front desk which would only last 24hrs and for one device. If you wanted longer and for more than one device you had to pay for every day. Even with the password the WiFi was very bad in our room. Even with the bad WiFi it isn't a bad place to stay for a few days.

    « Aukland Hotel »

Hotel located close to tourist attractions such as the Skyview and shopping. The hotel is located on a busy but friendly street. The service was excellent, especially helpful in storing luggage and printing boarding passes. The access to the internet was very helpful in the rooms and lobby area. Rooms are very basic but adequate.

« Comfy, well priced rooms 5 blocks to cruise port and train station »

The location of the Best Western President cannot be beat. Across the street and down the block from the SkyTower, I site (tourist information center). Two doors down, Countdown grocery store, good for getting groceries if you book a kitchenette suite, as we did. A block and a half down to Queen Street, then 5 blocks down to Queen's Wharf, Britomart transportation and luggage storage, and within a stone's throw of the Maritime Museum. Rooms had high ceiling, were impeccably clean. Beds were a little low, but that may be a cultural thing. We slept well as we weron the back side, away from Victoria street. The only slight negative was that the elevators run very slowly. For those not able to get a kitchenette, Best Western President does have a toaster room on the 7th floor. This was more than I expected, with a little fridge, microwave, toaster, wash sink and two high chairs with a breakfast bar seating arrangement. There is also a laundry. There is a restaurant on site, with Best Western President partnering for breakfast buffet for $20 NZ. If you cannot get the number of beds you need for your room, you can also get a rollaway bed. I would stay again at the Best Western President in Auckland.

« Great place to stay in Auckland »

We spent three nights in the wonderful city of Auckland. We stayed at the Best Western President Hotel and would definitely recommend them for your stay. It is where we will stay on return visits. It is just a short walk to the Skytower and is central for everything.

    « Would visit again »

I stayed at the Best Western President Hotel for one night at the beginning of this month. The hotel was located central to the CBD had had many amenities close by. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and compact but not too small. Our bed was comfortable. The only con we found about he place was the parking. We had preordered parking, which is a must as I had a friend visit 2 weeks earlier who was unable to gain access to the parking lot due to it being full and were completely ripped off by the Wilson's down the street. However, despite having parking, the carpark is so compact and difficult to use and our vehicle was only a hyundai I30. Definitely needs to be addressed. Would use this hotel again and would highly recommend it to others (so long as they dont need to park the car).

    « bad manner manager »

My family and I stayed in this hotel during 09,10Nov. During our whole trip in New Zealand, it is a warm and friendly trip facing all the nice people. Most of the staffs are very nice and friendly, however, the manager in Reception, Romeo, is very rude and has no humanity. My parents would leave on 11Nov midnight flight, I was applying with reception, if we could pay for a later c/o, the staff said about $20 per hour, but need a further confirm with manager. Manager Romeo said, ?no, you must leave on 10am, since all rooms are fully booked.? I discussed with Romeo: ?please try to keep as later as possible, due to senior people over 70years old, meanwhile, there are some clients with later arrival.? Romeo said? no, the housekeeping will be off at 16:00 (the staff said 17:30)? I said: ?is that possible to keep till 4pm? Romeo said? $235 till 4pm? I said: ? they are already over 70years, that's why I am applying. everyone will get old in one day.? Romeo said ? either 10am or $235.? (By the way, our room rate is less that $200). As a international chain, this is below the standard level. As a hotel, there is no either hospitality nor friendly. As a human being, he as no humanity.

« Budget Hotel in Downtown Auckland »

This is a hotel for the budget conscious hotel and fits this requirement very well. Other than the basics, very little extra is provided. Breakfast is the only meal available via room service. The rooms themselves are compact without being too small. I had views overlooking Victoria Street and the bungy jump ride. It wasn't too noisy but it was a week night when I stayed. I suspect it would be a different story on a Friday or Saturday night. Other reviews confirm this. There is a supermarket two doors down which is very handy. Even on a Monday night it was full of tourists. Location and budget price are the main strengths of this place. Nothing else. I did have an issue checking out as their computer system was down which really flustered only person on reception.

    « Pros & Cons »

Stayed here after disembarking a Cruise Ship. The Pros: A 10-15 minute walk from the dock and very convenient for transportation throughout the city & to the airport. There are several coin op laundry facilities in the Hotel $4 wash $2 dry. Now, the Cons: The hotel is located right across the street from a Bungee Max and all rooms street side will hearing screaming all night and into the wee hours of the morning. The beds are very uncomfortable as you can feel the springs in you back all night long. Considering all things and the reasonable price for the location, I would consider this average.

    3
    « great city location »

The studio apt. have micro-wave , clean & comfortable bed, shower is very tiny only skinny people can go in , computer available at corner near reception is useful for printing boarding pass, free newspaper. I have a room with view of the bungy jump, a bit nosy but the location is great, next to countdown supermarket and Japanese restaurant, a 5 minutes walk down to queen street if you need to catch express bus to airport. very convenient location.

    2
    « Noisy »

The great thing about this hotel is its city centre location but that also means on a Friday and Saturday night it is noisy till dawn. No problem if the room is sound proof but with 1970s era single pane windows, it was a noisy night. Decor is tired, shower pressure poor and soap dispensers annoying and cheapen the room. Good thing are the location and bed.

    3
« Weekdays okay, weekends stay away »

I have stayed at this hotel many times due to its convinient location and I have noticed the type of stay you will have depends on what night you stay. If you stay Sunday - Thursday night the outside noise is barely noticeable, even surprisingly quiet for the middle of a major city. However if you stay Friday or Saturday night the outside noise is extreme. The hotel is situated across the road from a bungee swing which means every 10 minutes until 1-2am you will have people screaming at the top of their lungs. As well you have cars revving their engines up and down the street most of the night plus the normal loud shouting of any weekend night. I am a late sleeper so fine with me but for people who like to sleep early this would be almost impossible. On that alone if I have to stay in Auckland on the weekend I avoid this hotel and stay somewhere quieter but weekdays have no problems. Other things are fine. This hotel is busy and gets a lot of tour groups so sometimes the wait for both the front desk and the elevator is long but that just needs some patience. Rooms are a but tired but functional (with the hot water limit a frustration) and the location cannot be beaten. The young Chinese girl at the front desk is very nice and always greets me with a smile. All in all I would stay here on the weekdays no problems but weekends no way, stay away.

    3
    « Convenient situation »

Great location in the centre of Auckland - handy to Sky City, Aotea Centre. We could easily walk about. Plenty of eating places to choose from in the vicinity. Staff were polite and helpful. If you have a car, you need to book for parking - which is an additional cost. The rooms lounge was comfortable enough, but felt to me to be more appropriate for a business stay. Not a comfy relaxing space. Also, no plunger coffee! So if you like a good cup of coffee first thing in the morning, you would need to head out for it!

    3
« Good location, but loud »

We stayed one night at this hotel, mostly based on location and cost. The hotel is very busy, and there was always a wait for the front desk (two clerks), whether it was for check in, asking a question, or check out. The rooms are large and very comfortable, and have a kitchen with dishes for guest use. if you like long showers, please note that there is only 15 minutes of hot water with a 45 minute wait to get more. Not a problem for us, but might be for others. We stayed on a Saturday night, and discovered we were right next door to a lot of nighttime. Had we not had a very loud fan that we travel with for just these types of situation, we wouldn't have gotten any sleep. The windows do not keep out any noise. Check out is 10 a.m., which could be a problem, but they are very accommodating with storing guest luggage. We used this feature both prior to check in and after check out. They did have an early check in for us (noon), but it is probably attributable to the early check out time. The location is ideal for travelers who would like to visit the Sky Tower (one block away) or the harbor (about 1/2 mile away). We took the airport bus from the hotel to Auckland airport, and the hotel is only about two blocks away from the closest stop on Queen St.

    4
    « 4 Day Stay »

Stayed in a Superior Queen Room on the seventh floor. The Hotel is within easy walking distance of the main shopping area in Queen Street, the Harbour area, the Hop on Hop off bus pick up stop at Sky City. It is also a short walk from the Sky bus drop off from the airport. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Would agree with the Hotel's recommendation that a Superior room is suited to 1 or 2 nights stop as our room was very small. Also choose a room away from the street front. WiFi very slow.

    3
    « could be better »

First impression of the hotel is not great. The lobby is also the access to another business and doesn't appear very welcoming, it feels more like a ticket office than a hotel lobby. Check out time is 10.00am which is very early and posed some problems as our onward travel was not scheduled until much later. The hotel did however have a room where we could leave our bags so all was not lost/ Location is quite good being just off Queen street with its many shops. Also close to the Skytower so if you want to do the Skywalk or Skyjump it is just a stroll away. the rooms were adequate but nothing more. Small kitchenette with hotplates and a microwave so you could cook in the room if you wished to do so. Didn't feel that the price matched the quality provided and staff could be more welcoming and friendly

    « Very Basic »

Very basic. Minimal tea/coffee, no wine glasses, no Sky, limited hot water for showers. Didn't realise we had to book a car park, so had to pay a fortune to park in a Wilson's car park. Free 24 hr wifi for only one device per room. Good location and our room was quiet, but wouldn't stay there again, embarrassed that foreign tourists would stay there and see this as an example of NZ hospitality

    5
« Great location and one of the best beds ever! »

We booked a one bedroom suite for 5 nights through expedia - it was on the 14th floor and way exceeded our expectations. The bedroom was massive with a huge firm, cozy bed (one of the comfiest I have ever slept in) and two full size closets. There was a living room you could throw parties in (I think the couch may have been a fold out too but don't take my word for it), a full size bath with tub and shower and a great little kitchenette (with microwave and bar fridge). We pre-booked a parking spot (it is underground, secure, and $20/night at the time we stayed). Like most hotels the underground parking was cramped with tight turns and miniscule parking spaces but in a rented toyota yaris and a dose of patience (and a second person to get out and help with directions) it was manageable. We approached for parking by pulling into the loading zone at the back of the hotel via Durham Lane (see pic of map) and walking to reception through the back to sign in and get parking access information. The check in process was smooth - we also got a flyer offering us the buffet breakfast at a discount (but we didn't use it). There was time-limited free wifi with password controlled sign-on (you get a code from reception and we needed help to work out the logon process) - the process was a bit clunky but I personally think any free wifi is a bonus as I refuse to pay international roaming fees! Worth noting that we found the location to be hugely convenient, for walking it was halfway up the hill on Victoria Street West between the main shopping streets at the bottom and the casino and tower (Skycity) up the top. For driving we could quickly get onto main roads in any direction. There were supermarkets right near by (Countdown from memory - that's Woolworths to the Aussies) selling general groceries and wine and travel friendly pre-prepared serves of meals and desserts. Overall great location with helpful staff and a wonderful room. TIPS: Make sure to pre-book if you need parking; stock up at the supermarket nearby to save money on essentials; if your room seems noisy at night check your windows are fully closed (our bedroom faced the backstreet and we think a housemaid opened the window a few inches so we spent one night listening to every midnight partygoer taking a noisy shortcut before realising our window was open!)

    « Place was acceptable. »

It was clean and located close to sky tower and wharf. There is no parking - only approximately 33 spaces for the entire hotel. We arrived early and requested a parking space and were told none were available, but to check back in two hours. When checking back we were told one space was available, but the staff thought our car was to large - we had a standard size car - camry. Not sure why they could not juggle space around since at this time it was only noon. It appeared to me the parking was being reserved for people who book directly with the hotel and do not use a booking service. Parking in Auckland is $50.00NZ without in and out access. We spent 14 days in NZ and this was our least favorite place to stay. We spent at least an hour looking for parking. I would recommend looking at The Grand. The staff there was exceptional and helped us with parking.

« Great location, ok restaurant, noisy at night »

The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. The hotel is in an excellent location, right near the main street and a short walk from the airport bus stop. Because of this great location, it is quite noisy at night. Lots of nice places to eat and shop nearby and the restaurant on site is ok.

« Convenient location, clean, laundry »

Best Western President Hotel We booked Best Western President Hotel it was not too expensive and well-located: near Queen St, and also near the Intercity bus terminal. LOCATION The hotel is up a short slope from Queen St, but it's not too strenuous to climb. We dragged our heavy luggage up there without a problem. We took a SkyBus to town and stopped at the third bus stop. From the bus stop it was just about 5 minutes to walk to the hotel. SURROUNDINGS About 60 footsteps away from the hotel is Countdown, a large supermarket that closes at 10pm. (Countdown, by the way, has a tourist discount card ? I'm not sure if you can find it online but it's worth checking.) Queen St is a minute or two walk away. The Intercity bus terminal is also close by. We rolled our luggage there on the morning of our departure. CHECK-IN We gave the receptionist our last name (we had booked via Booking.com) and she gave us our keys and a wi-fi password. Didn't smile and wasn't very friendly. ROOM ACCESS There were three lifts, one wasn't working. No steps at all to move our luggage from the hotel entrance into our room. ROOM The room had windows with curtains, heater/air-conditioning, three beds, two bedside drawers, a desk and chair, a TV, a wardrobe, ironing board and iron. Lighting was bright. There was no in-room safe, but New Zealand is quite safe. There was adequate space to open up our three luggages on the floor. BATHROOM The en suite had a shower, WC, sink and hairdryer. It was average sized. Towels, liquid shampoo, shower gel and conditioner were provided. CLEANING You have to request for room cleaning by hanging a provided signage on your door knob. The room was well cleaned. WI-FI We had free 24-hr wi-fi, which we frankly didn't use very much because we were out of the room most of the time. MEALS We didn't eat at the premises. I am not sure if they have a restaurant. AMENITIES There were laundry facilities on the 5th and 12th floor. They are open from 6:30am to 10pm. Wash is $4 and takes about 45 min. Dryer is $2, 30-45 min. We bought a single-use packet of detergent from the receptionist for $1. SERVICE The receptionists seemed quite busy and I never saw them smile. CHECK-OUT Check-out was smooth. Our credit card was charged and we returned the key cards. FINAL RECOMMENDATION It's a great location if you're in Auckland for a couple of days ? it's near Countdown, Queen St, Intercity Bus Terminal and the SkyBus bus stops. Plus there are laundromats on the premises if you need to do laundry. (Sidenote: It's time consuming to write reviews! If you found this review useful, please pay it forward by sharing your own experiences on TripAdvisor.)

    « Good hotel »

This is all you need. Tip: don't stay on the higher floors, try get a lower floor. I've stayed on level 12 and level 7. The level 12 water pressure in the shower was horrible, but it's much better on level 7. Nice room, basic and clean. No minibar as that needs to be bought from reception, laundry available for about $10 on level 5 and underground parking available at an extra cost ($25 when we stayed)

    5
    « Comfortable and Convenient »

A hotel central to all Auckland facilities and attractions. Good rooms at a good price. Value restaurant in the hotel and a great kebab shop just up the road. Many restaurants nearby. Supermarket with a good range of groceries, beer and wine closeby. Would stay there again.

« Best stay in Auckland »

You can find all good things about hotel (cleanness, cozy, spacious, near everything, etc) with this place. Worth every penny. This is also good compared to others "lodge" nearby. Just one minus point is that not storing luggage overnight

« Price is the best they have going for them »

Spent 4 nights here while in AKL on business. To start with the positive they are fairly low priced compared to some of the other hotels and the room is clean. But that is about it. The hotel is old and fairly run down. The room was small and I could almost touch the building across the alley (an alley that was pretty noisy both day and night). They do offer free wifi but the speed is so slow that I takes ages if you want to clear some emails but works OK if you just want to read the newspaper. Its also quite annoying that you need to get new log-in details every day and that on the day you check out they only give you 30 mins of free wifi in the lobby (does not work in the room). The breakfast is served in a room with no windows and the selection of food is very limited unless you want egg/bacon or cocopuffs. So overall, if there is nothing else available or they give you a very good price I would stay away.

« Great Hotel at the Centre »

Beautiful Hotel located bang in the centre of Auckland from where most of the sightseeing can be done on foot. We booked for 4 people and we were provided two adjacent rooms like a flat with normal beds for 4 (full sized). The room contained a kitchen and the utensils to prepare our own food at our convenient times. There is a groceries store just below the hotel for all the food items that you need. The beds were extremely good and the rooms were cleaned everyday and quality toiletries were replenished. Although the hotel is built on a busy road but the window glazings were so good that you never hear any outside noise. The cost turned out to be pretty reasonable. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel for families of 4 staying together.

« Perfect location for Aucklane CBD »

This hotel is just 50feet from the Sky tower. It is 10 minutes walk from the wharf area and just off Queen Street - the main shopping street. It is a few minutes walk from Albert park and the hotel is surrounded by places to eat, including Elliot Stables. There is parking behind the hotel (chargeable), and the rooms are very clean. The only negative is that the room was cold.

    « Comfortable stay »

This was a good hotel for the price. The location was excellent, just a block from Sky City and a few blocks to the harbour. Shopping was very convenient. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was large with a comfortable king bed.

    « Good location »

As titled the location is good, the welcome & farewell from the staff was great. The room was good, with a large double bed. The water pressure in the shower was poor. The lifts are a joke, one is out of order all the time (but is ok for staff to us) I waited 10mins for a lift up to the 9th floor & then had to walk up the stairs (lucky I didn't have luggage)

« DO NOT STAY HERE »

THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN!! Horrible staff that are rude, unfriendly and have no people skills whatsoever, The rooms were old and tatty looking. Don't waste your money staying in this dump - stay anywhere but here!

    « Perfect location »

This hotel's location is perfect - in the city centre, close walk to the Sky Tower and Queen Street. It just got a bit noisy during our last night there, with people who had a night out, and what seemed to be drag racing in the streets in the middle of the night. But other than that, we had avery comfortable stay.

    « 3 1/2 Star Hotel In Prime Location »

As many other reviews mention this hotel is in the city centre. One big bonus point is the locations you can walk to, Albert park, Auckland museum, wharf and all over the CBD. The family rooms are very spacious and very clean. The kids have their own room. You don't need a car if your staying here for a few days. If you plan on hiring a car hire one from Go Rentals car hire. They will deliver it to the hotel. Also if you want some good value drinks and food specials just walk out the back door and down the ally to the Bluestone pub. Also reception are very helpful. Thanks Raj.

« Totally suited our needs »

The hotel was chosen as there was accommodation for 2 couples which proved to be quite economical. We ended up in a 3 bedroom flat which had a full kitchen as well as a washing machine and dryer. We found this was really helpful . We often ate in the room , buying food at Countdown several doors down and also competively priced. We had a lot of laundry to do and went home with little washing. My only complaint was with the bed that I slept in. It sloped into the middle and did not provide for a good night's sleep. The hotel was particularly well located. We walked to the wharf ,the Skytower and around the shopping areas with ease. We were also very close to bus stops. Additionally there are many restaurants in the area offering a broad range of food choices. I would stay here again for all of the advantages offered.
