"Not that great"

Tango O, Edmonton, Canada 12/05/2019

Have you ever slept on a pizza box? That's what the beds fealt like. They were hard and uncomfortable. No sleep. The view from the roof is nice, but the location isn't that great. After dark the area gets a little scary. I wouldn't reccomend this hotel

"So many pluses, half board excellent option"

storm000, west midlands 12/05/2019

In summary, pros outweigh the cons....we were happy with our stay there. Maria was extremely helpful while liaising over the phone. Booked on hotel website for best half board rate. Location - yes it is walkable to the main sights, even with children, less than 30 mins to all the main sights and only 1.4 Euros for a 90 min public transport journey, 4-5 min walk from the Metro. We walked almost all of the 3 days we were there and it was safe, normal and lots of people around (didnt venture out after 8pm though). Food - The breakfast and dinner options were plentiful and a good selection of Greek food, the waitresses were absolutely lovely. There is a lovely, v cheap cafe a min walk towards the Metro from the hotel on the left which has gorgeous food at incredible prices, 3 Euro for a selection of Greek meze/tapas.... Rooms- yes they are dated and need improvement, but our 4 bed room was huge and extremely spacious, very clean with a small balcony. Unfortunately the bathroom was tiny and spoke to Maria re mould....probably ventilation.... The staff are polite and helpful if asked, the reception has 2 free to use computers with a printer. Most importantly, we misplaced a small amount of money in the room and the cleaners left it safely back, thank you and v impressed with honesty. Not the cheapest and not the best available obviously, but for our purposes, suited us fine.

"Very very old. "

econ29, West Hollywood, California 05/05/2019

I saw the reviews and photos before booking this hotel. But when I checked in the actual room is extremely old, no vent system in the bathroom that will cause humidity/mold, tight toilet space to sit, extremely farm mattress and so little amount outlet. This hotel need Need a lot of updates. Also they don't have non dairy milk at breakfast bar is disappointed.

"Not the safest spot in Athens!"

tahliab93, Adelaide, Australia 01/05/2019

We did a Topdeck tour and our first stop was in the Best Western Candia Hotel in Athens. The person that took us via taxi was incredibly worried for our safety to the point that she provided her telephone number in case we were in any danger (Ahh!!) The hotel is in a pretty dirty, dingy part of Athens. Athens is pretty much like this the whole way through but this was a whole other level. The staff were abrupt and unfriendly. We arrived one night before our tour was meant to start and I had booked a double bed for the first night. They said they could not accommodate this so my husband and I had single beds. The next morning we attempted to have breakfast downstairs. I had advised them (as per their signage and request) that we did not have breakfast as part of our booking but would pay the Euros to eat here. They made a major deal of it to the point I felt awkward and wanted to leave. We ate anyway. The food was about a 3/5 for a buffet style. Our first impression of Greece certainly wasn't starting off well. The rooms themselves are tidy but not spotless. The shower was the absolute worst. The shower curtain hangs over the side of the shower meaning the floor is absolutely soaking wet when you come out, the shower head gave an awful experience, and it was so small to the point if you moved even the slightest the shower curtain stuck to you. There was no powerpoint in the bathroom. The balcony area gives view of a nice run down abandoned lot of buildings that have gone unnoticed and not maintained by the Greek people. You pay for what you get unfortunately

"Wonderful Staff"

75DLS, Alexandria, Minnesota 26/04/2019

Nice Hotel part is the Staff! Very Helpful and Caring. Thursday Night Buffet was excellent! Authentic Greek Food, Wonderful Staff Highly recommend! Rooftop Bar has Beautiful views of the City. Breakfasts were excellent! Very nice Staff!

"Great place to stay in Athens"

Explorer35516207299, London, United Kingdom 07/04/2019

The hotel is located north of the city within easy reach of the metro. Staff members are excellent. The restaurant serves good food and the breakfast spread is very good. All of Athens can be viewed from the rooftop which has an open cold water swimming pool for use in summer. A taxi company serves the hotel at short notice. The metro station is 5 minutes walk and so is the main line railway station. The hotel is close to the theatre district and there are many restaurants and coffee houses nearby.

"Very good"

Joste S, Elmhurst, New York 04/04/2019

A cellphone for free to use? Yes, the hotel actually give you a working cellphone to use how cool is that! I have no complaints about the hotel, either its staff. Only thing is location, but anyway you can take the subway and everything is close by.

"Poor breakfast influenced the rating given here"

Euanmr, Kelso, United Kingdom 11/02/2019

We spent four nights here and although the room and service were fine, the breakfast let the hotel down. Staff were always polite and friendly. Public areas were clean and tidy and the bar in particular was well decorated and comfortable. Our standard room was not in new condition but overall it was fine, and all amenities were there. While staying we walked to everything and never had any issues returning late at night. We found people in Athens to be very friendly.

"Good place to stay for some day."

andridervishi1, Tirana, Albania 09/02/2019

I was at the hotel with my family to stay for one night. We booked a 3 bed room. The room were large clean and with view from the city. Have a beautiful view from the tarrace to the akropoli. It was a little bit noisy inside.we have heard all night the rumors from the kids from other room. Need to fix it . But at the all was good Very tasting breakfast with a lot of foods to take. I would recommend to stay.

User 01/02/2019

The hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating, especially Olga! The hotel is clean and spacious. The food is 10/10! The hotel isn't in the city centre but is really close to the station. Would highly recommend!

226nasd, Nadi, Fiji 15/01/2019

Our tour started from this hotel in Athens so I had four days prior to the tour and I booked at this hotel. It was a nice stay. Walking distance to ATM, laundry etc. Staff were nice and courteous. I had a positive experience.

"Disappointing experience at best."

simonsrobert74, Lincoln, Nebraska 12/11/2018

We were incredibly disappointed With the Candia Athens Hotel. Our cab driver from the airport was a bit confused why two people on their honeymoon would be staying here. We were not sure what to make of this until we arrived. The hotel is located in the center of a very rundown and less than "savory" neighborhood. The hotel is more than a 20 minue cab ride from anything of note in or around the Plaka. We asked the cab driver if walking would be faster, to which he vehemently discouraged, citing "safety". The gentleman at the front desk was rude and univiting. We reserved a double bed (we were on our honeymoon) but were provided with three separate twin beds. Upon presenting our reservation for a double bed room to the previously rude clerk, he became angry and slid a new key across the counter. Upon entering the new room. The view was of a fire escape and the loading dock. And the bathroom door would not close, due to the sink being in the way. The manager was equally unwelcoming and rude. She essentially said "not my problem". We left without a refund and stayed at the Central Hotel, for only $40 more a night but 40x better in every way.

"Decent hotel - good for some nights"

feherp88, Budapest, Hungary 06/11/2018

Best Western Candia offers a good price-quality ratio in Athens. The hotel is close to the subway station and located couple of steps away from the train station. The rooms were spacious, however the bathroom would need some renovation. The breakfast menü is rich and food are tasty. There is also a great view to the Acropolis from the rooftop bar. If you are looking for an accommodation for some nights stay in Athens, feel free to book in Candia Hotel.

"Highly recommendable"

triopan, Veguellina de Orbigo, Spain 23/10/2018

We have stayed at this hotel. It was very well located, with amazing views from the roof terrace and a little swimming pool to enjoy Acropolis and Athens skyline. The restaurant serves quality food and the service is very good. I would highlight the staff kindness: reception, cleaning people, restaurant waiters,.. Olga (greetings fron Susana) in charge of the bar roof terrace. Highly recommended. A little drawback is the noise of greek traffic.

"nice place"

RoxanaIonita, Bucharest, Romania 18/10/2018

Nice hotel, clean rooms, excellent view from the roof, especially during night time. The breakfast with many types of food, even pancakes, It is situated in a nice location, near a tourist bus station, in case you want to explore the city.

"Not a nice neighbourhood"

Joanne H, Adelaide, Australia 12/10/2018

Rock hard beds don't expect a good night sleep. No tea or coffee making facilities. Breakfast buffet was good large variety of food. Felt very unsafe when venturing out at night. Reception staff appeared not helpful when checking in.

andystatic, Wales 07/10/2018

Stayed here a few nights in different rooms on a recent trip to Athens area/Saronic islands. Booked up because it seemed one of the better options in terms of price, location and quality. Whilst location was good, the hotel rooms were pretty run down and not really worth the money IMO. For first few days we were in a standard room on the 4th floor. Although room looked out over the side street, traffic noise from the road that the hotel directly overlooks was noisy and would stop light sleepers getting much shut eye IMO. One of the main light switches in the room had a short or loose connection in it which fizzed audibly if used and intermittently plunged the room into darkness. Breakfast was included but as a vegan my options were limited to bread with jam, tinned pears, some chopped up kiwi fruit, sliced tomatoes and olives. Upon asking, some plant milk was rustled up on day 1 which was gratefully received by us and another guest but this was very strictly rationed out between us and there was only enough for coffee and tea, not enough for cereal which would have opened up some more breakfast options. Disappointingly, despite there being a clear demand for non-dairy milk, none was available on the second or third days of my first stay. Presumably the third of a carton they had on day 1 had been used up and they just didn't bother to get any more. I'd already booked another night and prepaid it for when we got back to Athens after a few days in the islands, otherwise I would have booked somewhere else TBH. For that second stay I'd booked an economy room as that was all that was available at the time of booking. This room was really pretty bad. It was on second floor and looked out directly over the main road. Balcony door was also damaged so wouldn't seal shut fully so traffic noise in room was really bad all through the night. Fortunately I'd packed earplugs or else I'd have got no sleep. As an economy room it was still supposed to have tea and coffee making facilities in-room according to description but these were absent as was any other form of lighting but for harsh fluorescent striplights that made the room, with its scant decoration and scuffed walls, seem even more like a storage room or abandoned office. There was another broken plastic thing near the bed but this time it was a phone point rather than the buzzing light switch in the standard room so at least this was quiet - or maybe I just couldn't hear it over the traffic noise. Can't recommend this place sorry. Book at your own risk.

User 24/09/2018

Definately one of the worst hotels that I have ever stayed at. The location has no decent restaurants nearby and the constant and lpud traffic and train station noise will keep you awake at night. The quality of the internal restaurant buffet food us also very basic and ordinary. The quality of the rooms are also very very poor and dated. I chose this hotel thinking that it would be good quality being a Best Western hotel, however I made a big mistake. Would not give this any stars if I could. Would strongly recommend that you avoid this hotel!

"Convenient place but noisy"

User 12/09/2018

Very plaisant terrace on the roof of the hotel with large view on Athenes. Hotel close to the metro, easy to visit the city. Classical breakfast but good. The main problem in this hotel concerns the rooms on the street side, a lot of noise all the night.

close to the centrum, delicious food, nice servis. Nice restaurant on the roof next to a small pool. From the roof view of the monuments of Greece. Close to the railway station. Close to the subway. I recommend this hotel.

"Not for us! "

alittlesunshine, High River, Canada 29/08/2018

Although the property itself is okay, the area is run down. It is not safe at night. Friends travelling with us were pick pocketed on the metro getting to the hotel. Would not recommend this hotel. Breakfast was below average. Hotel did offer a room safe but the room itself did not feel secure.

"Quite old hotel in a not very nice neighborhood"

Eva M, Barcelona, Spain 29/08/2018

We stayed at this hotel in august. We chose it because of the swimming pool and the nice views of the Acropolis. The swimming pool is so small that it looks much like a jacuzzi rather than a pool. We were expecting a much higher quality hotel being part of the Best Western family. The hotel is very old. According to the website, the rooms had been refurbished. Not ours. The food was medium quality, high quantity though. The elevator were broken all the time so we had to use the stairs every day. The service is nice and helpful all the time. The neighborhood is not very nive and apparently quite dangerous at night. We didn't have any problems, though. Worth to drink a cocktail in the terrace at night admiring the Parthenon.

"Best western Candida hotel"

Serenabid, London, United Kingdom 21/08/2018

The best western Candida hotel wasn't splendid at all! First of all,at breakfast there wasn't much choice but apparently the omelettes were quite nice and the plates weren't really clean. When you finished your breakfast you can go up the stairs or in a really squashy lift! If you are in a room with four people it in it you get three single beds and one small bed that sinks and hurts your back wich is not very good if you are doing sightseeing. The shower is really hard to control and spills everywhere but doesn't come out properly. Also there is only three lights and no bedside lights! My sister stayed in a room for three and none of the lights were working when they came in so they called the man in reception and he wasted half an hour in their room and half an hour fixing the light bulbs! The tv didn't even work properly. It was so squishy. In the video the pool looks big but it is so tiny. If you are on the sixth floor all you can hear at night is scraping chairs and tables.

"Terrible "

User 18/08/2018

Outdated, dirty, poor working air conditioning. Not good location. The pictures are quite deceiving. The best part was the check out. The view from the rooftop was depressing. Please do not deceive people. Needless to say, I do not recommend this hotel.

"Great location, good value. Nice amenities."

User 14/08/2018

The hotel is quiet, considering it is on a busy street. View of Acropolis from balcony every morning and night was awesome. Breakfast buffet had many options, all fresh. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. They were helpful in arranging taxi rides to the cinema and back. The rooftop bar staff were very nice and the patio was very cozy. Stayed three nights.

"A cosy place "

User 14/08/2018

We rested at Hotel best Weston Canadian and the hotel has modest room and guest accommodation. The staffs are nice and professional and it offers beautiful Morning breakfast.... a good place for cool stay...

"Pool eh?"

Welshexplorer1991, Llanelli, United Kingdom 14/08/2018

The pool is not pool, its a giant bath.. you cant swim in it and its always packed. its very off-putting. the pictures of it on this site are very generous. the subway metro is nearby and theirs a lovely café nearby there. Rooms are good and spacious, although the bathrooms are dated and the showers are terrible. the breakfast is extremely limited (although it is included in the price), the orange juice is super concentrated with sugar and is not nice. 3 euro's per person, per night tourist tax so beware of that.

"Athens,august 2018"

Geoff H, Liverpool, United Kingdom 10/08/2018

Good 3* hotel, close to 2 metro stations,so handy for getting around Smallish room, but clean and comfortable Decent buffet breakfast. Great rooftop bar with small pool and great view of acropolis and only €3.50 for a cold beer.

"Nice hotel, good price quality ratio"

User 08/08/2018

Candia is a good place, both price and quality wise to explore Athens. Friendly people, if you wish nice bar and good food for reasonable prices. Top roof is great for a drink at night, but the swimming pool is that small that you never will be able to swim... always crowded and engaged... However, the lady behind the pool bar makes that you forget on this - the most friendly cocktail shaker ever! And he view from the roof on the city and Acropolis.... WOW!

"Convenient & well located & not expensive"

broussea112607, Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France 03/08/2018

This hotel is well located - Comfort depends on room allocated - for my 1st stay, room was quiet. For my 2nd stay, room was really noisy (directly on the street). terrace at the roof of the hotel is super - but pool really small - service is normal

"Kind service but outdated hotel"

tiiterr, Tallinn, Estonia 02/08/2018

I stayed in this hotel for the 4 nights in June. Why I have chosen this one? Thanks to 2 options: rooftop bar with pool and half board. Reality was awful. This hotel is a favorite for German class trips in the end of school year and thanks to it this hotel is very noisy, restaurant of course too and a small pool is overcrowded with teenagers with restless hormones. Thanks god, our training was in another hotel, where class trips are prohibited and there I had chance to cool myself in the nice rooftop pool. The room was tiny, TV screen was small and view from window was awful. Area is not the best, metro station is far away. What I liked? Half a liter of red wine for each dinner and delicious wraps on the first dinner. And famous Greek hospitality, of course.

"Overpriced and outdated"

User 20/07/2018

Stayed here for two nights before a top deck tour in one room, two nights in another when the tour started and then one night at the end of the tour. the first and second rooms the aircon wouldn't work at all, the third one seemed to be stuck on freezing and we couldn't turn it down or off! Each of the bathrooms were so small and so dirty, I don't think this place has ever heard of a grout cleaner and the shower heads were awful and all gave the tiniest stream of water with no pressure. The breakfast was boring and always served cold even when we ate as soon as it was served. the furniture in the rooms look like they haven't changed anything since the 80's and the pool upstairs is made to look huge in the pictures- feels even smaller when it's crammed with families who don't tell their kids off for kicking people in the face. Would never stay here again by choice, it's a dodgy area and overpriced, there's much nicer, cheaper and safer options closer to the town and city centre.

"Review of hotel"

User 20/07/2018

We stayed in a 4 bed family room which was basic but functional. Breakfast was adequate, the rooftop pool was small but a refreshing cool down and interesting view, and the tray with wine and fruit a nice touch the second night in.

"Needs an upgrade"

Jasmine7107, Sydney, Australia 09/07/2018

My biggest complaint is this place definitely needs an upgrade. Had some troubles with just shutting the bathroom door at times and the beds were a bit old but otherwise it's nice. There's a good buffet dinner which had a bunch of options or dinner and breakfast. The wifi wasn't brilliant but worked and it's near a train station so you can get closer to the sites. Basically it does the job.

"Youth Hostel !!"

yeung8, Hong Kong, China 01/07/2018

This 4 star hotel is located in a rather slum area. It does not appear as a hotel to me but a youth hostel, mainly for US students. We were surrounded by a full house of teenage US students. Our double rooms are not big but accommodated with 3 single beds making it even smaller and packed. No breakfast would be provided after 9.30 so you have to get up early in the morning and finished your breakfast quick. Breakfast is terrible. No proper bread, no toast just some stale rolls, some very cheap ham, ice cream and over-ripen fruits. We had dinner at the hotel too. The dinner buffets were even worst. We had to wait until the students finished their first round after 8.30 pm. It looked like a students canteen rather than a hotel restaurant. Students seemed to be enjoying though!

"Not even 3 star!!!!!! Not worth the price at all!!!!!!"

wjess10, Singapore 16/06/2018

The hotel is far away from 4-stars, even not able to mee a 3-star! 1) The staffs at reception is very unfriendly, no welcome no smiles. The lobby looks like a hostel. 2) The furniture in the room are very very old! 3) The light switchs beside the bed were spoiled, sometimes work, sometimes don't work! You have to get up to off the lights! The lights in the room are very dark! 4) Above terrace there are only steel farms, but no glass no cover, let you feel you are in a construction not yet finished house! 5) The room is very noisy at night. The noisy seems from some type machines! 6) The hotel charged my credit card not in euro but in my country currency not euro, without my agree, caused extra conversion fee on my credit bill.

"Pertect localisation !"

fabienlalannerp, Lyon, France 12/06/2018

I stayed in this hôtel for a few nights during a trip in Athens and I really liked it ! The room was perfect : clean, big with a nice view of the city from the balcony. The localisation is just amazing : you're right in the midle of Athens, litteraly ! It was really enjoyable, mostly when you have only a few days to explore th city. You can also enjoy the swiming pool with a gorgeous view of the acropoli .... How cool is that ?! The staff is very Cool and always happy to help. Each time I asked for something I had it straight. I definetly recomand this hôtel to anyone who wants to discover Athens, very worth it !

"Short Walking Distance to Metro, Good Food, Clean Rooms"

joellenl969, York, United States 05/06/2018

While the area surrounding the hotel does not offer much for tourists, it is in a central location and you can trust the Best Western brand. The staff was very friendly and responsive; all common areas were clean. The rooftop bar and pool were very nice and you had a fantastic view of the Parthenon. Food was very good, they offered a really nice buffet for both breakfast and dinner. The rooms were dated, could use a refresh of furnishings and carpets but most importantly it was very clean. Ask the desk to call a cab for you so you are in a taxi that has a relation ship with the hotel.

"Too little, too late"

Terry2004_11, Bondi, Australia 04/06/2018

Stayed here with my wife as part of a tour group. For some reason we were placed in a triple room, which also had an extra single fold down bed, making it 4 single beds in total, and very little room for much else. Requested the fold down bed be removed which was initially refused but then agreed by reception staff. After 3 hours of no action, I again requested removal of the bed but was told maintenance had decided it was not possible?? Advised staff I would shift it myself so there was at least some space in the room, and shifted the bed outside to the hallway. Thereafter received a call from reception indicating we could now be moved to another room. Politely declined but it begs the question why we were placed in such a poor room choice in the first place. The hotel was not full. On the upside, breakfast was good and there was luggage storage. Dodgy area of Athens with not much to offer outside.

"Condescending staff and lack of air conditioning"

Melissa D, Vernal, Utah 26/05/2018

This is a hotel where I will NEVER recommend anyone to stay at. We were going on a tour of Greece with a group. We were told, by our tour group company that we could check in at 2:00 pm and everything would be ready for us. When we got to the hotel to check in, we were rudely told that we could not check in until every person in our tour group arrived. The deadline for arrival was 5:00 pm. That would have left us sitting in their lobby for 3 hours. Needless to say, our tour guide got there at 2:00 pm and suddenly the hotel employee let us check in. He could have easily told us that we would have to wait for our guide to check in, instead of being rude earlier. Their paperwork in our room said that they provided face clothes to guests if a guest requested one at the front desk. My husband went to the desk and requested one. The front desk staff had no clue to what my husband was requesting even though it was listed in their paperwork. They should not list that an item is available when it is not. We stayed a total of 3 nights. The air conditioning did not work for 2 of those nights. One night it was close to 85 degrees in our room. I went to the front desk, my face was red because of hot how it was in our room, to ask them them if we could be moved to another room. I was told they were completely booked up and then I was asked if I was sure the AC wasn't working. Then the desk staff pulled a AC wall unit out of the desk and showed me how to use it. I told him we had already done everything that he had just shown me. I was told that the unit could not be looked at until tomorrow. I told our tour guide of our issues the next day. Our tour guide asked the same employee, that I had talked to the night before, if our air conditioning had been fixed. He said that it had been, but that was not truthful. This hotel is suppose to be a high end one. I will never recommend anyone stay there due to how they treat people and how they are unwilling to do things to make the stay comfortable. We stayed in a room, for a night, on the Aegina island for $40 and the accommodations and service surpassed this hotel by FAR

"Business in Athens"

Paul M, Manchester 24/05/2018

Stayed in a lovely hotel. Rooms very clean and practical with excellent WiFi.. Air conditioning very good Location is ideal for sightseeing or visiting clients. The buffet breakfast and evening buffet excellent value for money. The food was perfect and the range adequate. The staff are all extremely polite and go out of their way to please. There is a roof top bar where you can see surrounding hillside as well as the Acropolis. There is a pool but it's more suited for kids. It's more like dipping into to cool down. From the bar you can order food as drinks If your unsure of where you are in the city then download and use the “Beat” app. It's similar to Uber. I think Athens must have the cheapest taxi service in Europe. I used this extensively over my period. Booked taxi and it was there within 5minutes. The app shows car reg, name and photo of driver. I would recommend this hotel

"Underwhelming stay"

User 16/05/2018

We booked for one night in May 2018 and we're glad our stay was no longer. Our superior room with a city view actually opened directly onto a staircase, with no view of anything. The amenities were average at best (tired carpets, cracked tiles / mirrors and not a single sunbed in the “rooftop pool lounge area”, which had groups of men congregating to drink from 11am onwards). We paid extra to include breakfast and both were ill later in the day. Avoid.

"Bad costumer service"

kattybarrigan, Brisbane, Australia 14/05/2018

I sent an email because it said on the website that checking was until 11pm but I was arriving at 1am at Athens, they never replied, had to send 3 to them to finally get a reply which didn't even answer my questions. I was going to stay there as part of my tour. The rooms are very old, mainly the toilets, mattress is really hard, the pools doesn't look like the one in the photo at all, very misleading. The room where the keep your luggage is unlocked so anyone can get it and grab any bags, they don't give you tags or anything if you leave your bags for few days. Good breakfast. Cleaning lady just opened the door without knocking first, slightly but still.

"Bachelorette Party Weekend"

User 25/04/2018

The hotel was very clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was low for my taste..just few dishes to choose from. Location is close to the city center, but the neighborhood isn't quite the best.

"Good rooms but bad location "

Lacey-Jade-1, Melbourne, Australia 14/04/2018

The hotel itself is lovely, the staff and very attentive and the breakfast was decent. The rooms are spacious, I had a balancing with a beautiful view. The rooftop view is spectacular. The location, however, leaves a lot to be desired. It's close to the train station which is a plus but I didn't feel safe walking around at night. Just be aware, this area seems like the slums. I even had taxi drivers warn me off staying here. I liked the hotel though.

"Clean and good price, friendly staff"

User 11/04/2018

We had a nice sized room, 4 single beds, fabulous views over Athens. The location was fine for us, as there is a metro nearby, easy to find, and that allowed us to explore everywhere we wanted to go on our short trip. Sadly the pool was not open during our stay which was disappointing, and the roof top bar wasn't on either, however you could get drinks downstairs and sit and admire the view from the roof. The food was good - Olga was lovely in the restaurant. Most of the staff were good English speakers so we could be lazy. Only concern was the large number of visiting school trips who could be very loud at night. They didn't wake my children, but they were a bit of a nuisance.

"Nice hotel"

Mayville58, Liverpool 30/03/2018

This Is a nice clean hotel only 5 min to metro. We enjoyed our stay. The food was filling and tasty, while the room was clean, with a good balcony view.Nice staff especially the restaurant manager Dimitris. He is so nice and made you feel very welcome.

"Not worth it, even for low $"

RDkSc, SC 21/03/2018

This was booked through Emirates Holidays. It should not be an option for US travellers. It's in a terrible area of town. You have to take a metro to get to town. But worse... they have heat OR AC for the entire hotel.. So if you're hot in one room, you're out of luck. You can't open the doors because the noise is so bad. I am following up with Emirates. This shouldn't be a hotel option for anyone from USA. And on top of it all, there are a ton of big school kid groups here.

"Should be better"

User 19/02/2018

Location: not bad, you can find a metro station 500m far by walk Staff: available and helpful; not too smiling Services: you can find every basic ones (restaurant, bar, laundry) but you must pay everything immediatly and it isn't easy and pleasant. Room: essential, without landscape and near a busy road. Fortunately glasses stop almost every noise. Furniture need a quick replacement because out of date. Price: I was there during a tour, so I don't know the exact price for my staying, but I think you can find something better in Athen. Perhaps they understood this and have been renoving half hotel since last year. Should be better

niveshjain09, Mumbai, India 16/02/2018

Recommended for bed n breakfast, as long as you spend the rest of your time exploring Athens. Conveniently located, but absolutely basic in terms of amenities. Given the cost, it's a pretty neat option.

George A. at the front desk in the BEST! So helpful with recommendations and is hilarious! Be sure to visit the Plaka area, close to the Acropolis. Lots of cute streets with a flee market. Ideal for tourists.

"Family Weekend to Athens"

Paula C, Akrotiri, Cyprus 19/01/2018

I stayed in Athens in Feb, next to Syntagma Square. The Candia was the other end of the city centre and a but far away. We walked every day and it was OK, but you couldn't really do it with small children, it's a but far to the City Centre. The Hotel staff were more than helpful and on arriving offered any information that we required. We were given two rooms instead of the Family room we had booked. The rooms were warm and clean, the hotel is dated and signs of general wear and tear are all over. However the breakfast was substantial and a varied choice for everyone, my daughter asked for Gluten free bread and got it. We used the bar when we returned after sightseeing all day and the bar staff were always helpful and friendly. The last evening before we returned we ordered and ate in the bar, we ordered the pizzas and they were really good. I would stay here again as it was fabulous value for money. Even though we were a little further out than expected we bought 2 day tickets for the Gray Line Tour bus and got off on the square around the corner form the hotel. Rooms were tidied and cleaned daily and fresh towels.

"Reasonable hotel for the price and location"

Sundaresan S, London, United Kingdom 03/12/2017

This hotel is at a reasonable location, walking distance between 2 train stations. We booked this as part of a BA Flight and Hotel deal to Greece and the location and packaged price was reasonable. There are however far better hotels. The hotel was undergoing renovation when we visited, so hopefully things have picked up. The look of the rooms is a bit old with the elevator/lift still the old model and creaking. The restaurant and the breakfast spread are a plus, this was included as part of the package deal. Room views were non-existent and the general food options nearby for vegetarians aren't that great !

"Best western Candia hotel in Athens"

Debbie S, Leicester, England, United Kingdom 08/11/2017

We booked a super break trip to Athens for 3 nights for our 40th wedding anniversary. Tui specified a quiet double room . When we arrived the staff did not appear to know we were coming and we were put at the front of the hotel in a room with 3 single beds. The room overlooked a busy main road and a train track where the trains ran all night. The noise was horrendous and kept us awake all night. We asked to be moved and we were put on the 3rd floor but still near the road and with 3 single beds. The noise was still horrendous and we moved again a bit further from the road . The beds were rock hard and we thought we had been bitten by mosquitoes only to find from a friend who is a gp it was bed bug bites. Breakfast was good although the waiter whipped the plates and cleared the table as soon as we got up to get a drink. The hotel is not in a good part of Athens but I have to say that all the staff were helpful and really tried to help us. The hotel is not the best but the staff are lovely.

"Youth hostel experience"

mindy336, Rotterdam, The Netherlands 26/10/2017

Staff at restaurant and roof terrace and housekeeping were very friendly! Rooms are clean but simple. Beds are uncomfortable. Nice terrace with good food options! Noisy inside the room due to location next to road, but ok.. you can expect that. However, there were groups of young people staying at the hotel and they "claimed" the roof terrace in the evening till 3 o'clock at night. Staff could not do anyting, but try to aks them to "keep it down", but it felft like a youth hostel. Did not get any sleep for last 3 nights... They were fully booked so when I complained for the second time and asked for another room, did they offer a smaller room, but it was our last day, so I did not bother (no time to repack, but decided to visit the city again) and put in earplugs... again a bad night sleep...

"Reasonable and Value for Money"

Anfield33, Durban 22/10/2017

The hotel offers basic services and facilities, but was clean, comfortable and value-for-money. Breakfast offered a nice range and there was plenty of all options, sweet and savoury. The rooftop has a small pool, and views over the city and the Parthenon in the distance. The location is not the best, but nonetheless it's still reasonablky central, and a short walk to the nearest metro.

"Good location to explore Athens"

Mike P, Wendover, United Kingdom 19/10/2017

The hotel itself looks a bit tired but the staff are very friendly and very helpful when it comes to local attractions. Less than a 100 meters to the Metro to explore sites like the Acropolis. Hotel staff warned us about pickpockets on the Metro but it was far from crowded and just outside the holiday season, so we didn't see or experience any problems.

"Well, it is central at least............."

maureend705, Geneva, Switzerland 10/10/2017

Well, I guess that we did leave it a little late to book in, a city as popular as Athens (no terrorists only tourists, although I sometimes wonder what the difference is!) and it was difficult to find. a hotel room at all. With the help of an Athenian friend however we found the Candia, centrally placed near Omonia square, not the nicest area but what could we expect? I wish I could say something positive about the. hotel but permanently overstretched staff, too many tour companies with exhausted tourists, and little patience on either side. But there was one delight- mesmerized we walked out onto the roof top and were stopped in our tracks - Athens lay before and around us from horizon to horizon and we watched the sun slowly sinking and turning the world black until the lights of the apartment blocks came pricking out. But there is something more important to be said concerning Athens and that is the lack of facilities - and concern - for handicapped people (which I am). To get into the Acropolis, as taxis are not allowed near the only lift (and what a lift) which one has to walk 400 meters to reach and then watch it drop down the cliff face scraping and rattling only to scrape and rattle back up carrying a very uncertain you. And when one gets to the top, the glassy, slippery marble of the surface is highly dangerous. Pedestrian lights do not allow enough time for a handicapped walker to cross; in fact nothing shows thought about the difficulties that. one might encounter; and these are only examples

"Unexpectedly Five Star"

Gerttravelnovice, Evander 11/09/2017

What a surprise, hot, tired and not in a good space from a poor Santorini experience driven through late afternoon traffic from Piraeus to walk into a lobby of a hotel to be made at home. The reception made sure the inconvenience was limited, the great views made known and allowed us to go to our room. Dropped our bags and headed to the roof for a welcome cool wind and excellent views of Athens! Headed in for supper and the best for last a buffet supper with so many choices it was again excellent and the price impressively little at €14.00 each. Back to the roof for a drink and photos and then for bed! Complaints? Yes bed is very hard and uncomfortable and pillows too soft, if you're on a budget and can tolerate nit being beneath the Acropolis then use this hotel, it's definitely a little gem!

"Greek Adventure "

User 08/09/2017

Our travel agent booked us into this hotel for the start of a mainland Greece visit. Yes the hotel is not central but the metro is convenient and easy to maneuver. The hotel is clean and our room stayed cool while we were in it, and was fairly quiet- we were not bothered by noise. The food was amazing good and the offering for breakfast was all we would want. Dinners were at a nominal cost but also totally worth it. Fresh fruit not to be missed! The staff was helpful and attentive. The rooftop bar and pool was a great plus for sunsets and the acropolis at night. Good value and great service.

"Almost ”a friend indeed”"

Carmen-Elena28, Bucharest 07/09/2017

I was really pleased with the way the staff did its best to help everyone, though some of them speak in Greek..., to themselves..., when they do not like what they have to cope with... Great opportunity to use a computer and the printer free of charge, in the lobby, downstairs. Nice view om the last floor and good pool. Possibility to have dinner, buffet, including red wine, for only 14 euro. Pleasant and clean room.

"The staff make this hotel everything"

User 01/09/2017

We booked this hotel through airmiles and had an understanding that the hotel would be an older building, but , we loved the location beside subway and train stations. In being only a 7-10 minute walk to Ormonia Square which had multiple subway train lines passing through, it was all about location. Checking in had a small hiccup as we (couple) were given a room with two single beds, we checked with reception and he was great, said no problem, and gave us keys to another room across the hall that had a queen bed. The room was smaller and only had a shower, so we took the room with the two single beds and pushed them together. The view was great, although we were only on the 4th floor we had a great view and mountains around Athens gave a great view for sunsets at night. The bed (s), were not the best feature of this hotel, however the great balcony and friendly housekeeping who made sure, everyday, our linens were changed for fresh made up for it. The room is basic but had all amenities, fridge, hairdryer, flat screen tv. The roof top lounge area was clean, easily the best feature of this hotel amenities wise. The bartender at night was friendly, helpful, always greeted everyone and made us feel like family. The food portions are off the hook huge at this hotel, and she was great in helping everyone order just the right amount of food. The pool, this was perhaps the only real disappointment. We love booking hotels with a pool on the roof, but this was perhaps just an oversized bathtub, you can't really swim in it, and on most days it was very cold. We truthfully spent the only time, just dangling our feet in it. Again, it would have been nice to actually swim in it. The staff always were friendly and helpful, had a smile and seemed very focused on customer service. Who was the shining star? "Olga"!!!! love this lady!!!! Remembers guests name, always friendly and helpful, She works very hard and if the Candia is looking for their next supervisor or to add to their management team, this is the lady! The "lift" not elevator, is a hoot, after the double inside doors open you have to manually push the door to the floor open. It's small inside and not well ventilated. We enjoyed riding in it. The buffet - Very good for a small hotel, everything was fresh and hot. No complaints. Checking out - we had to check out at 330am to catch our flight to Zurich, the front desk booked our cab for us and check out was quick and easy. Thank you Candia for a great stay - love to come back, maybe some new beds next time. :)

"Average hotel"

User 22/08/2017

Me and my wife stayed here for 4 nights in Aug 2017.. Its an average hotel,we got it at 60 euros a night (booked atleast 4 months prior)and so I term it average,if I had to pay anything more than that,I would have rated poor/terrible.. 1.Its not a 4 star hotel,in my opinion.Im not an expert in Hotel Management, and my opinion is based on my travel experiences. 2.Rooms are small and cosy,to put it in a decent way. 3.There is no room service concept,U have to go down to get a bottle of water even.Trip advisor should definitely remove that from their review 4.They are very reluctant to give even an extra pouch of sugar...the reception says its housekeeping's responsibility. 5.The roof top pool is tiny,1 m in depth and at best can accommodate 5 people. Will jot down a few pros as well 1.Good location, walking distance from 2 metro station and the train station. 2.Great food, dinner buffet at 14 euros is exceptional.Very sumptuous with a decent spread. 3.The lady in the roof top bar is very courteous and tries her best to keep you entertained. Avoid this hotel at anything more than 50 euros(INR 4500) you will be terribly disappointed

"A good hotel with brilliant roof top view"

atyagi86, Delhi, Delhi, India 20/08/2017

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and initially i got a very average room but thankfully due to AC not working they had to change the room though the manager did it grudgingly (don't know why) , rooms were clean and staff courteous bar one manager :). overall a decent hotel and close to Metro as well.

"Great value hotel with stunning views"

Phil B, Conwy, United Kingdom 17/08/2017

This was a last minute booking so we didn't expect too much. The hotel is not in the best part of town, but it is clean, comfy and has a roof bar with stunning views of the Acropolis. Very good value and recommended - only 1 10 euro cab drive from the centre.

"Best Western Candia hotel"

User 13/08/2017

Not in city centre. Air conditioning was very poor. Rooms were hot. Breakfast was average. Rooms were small. Location of the hotel was not in a prime location. Ghazi is close to the hotel for night life. The closest metro is Metaxaourgio.

varunsehgal2134, Dubai, United Arab Emirates 13/08/2017

I stayed with my wife in this hotel for 2 nights and had very bad experience. To begin with wifi connectivity was very poor (i stayed on 6th floor) and when i complained about slow wifi, the manager instead of resolving the issue, blatantly told me wifi is poor because of large number of users and connectivity will remain as it is. Secondly AC was cooling very slowly. When i complained about the same, Manager instead of resolving the issue told me AC has centrally air conditioned and AC is working fine and there are no complaints from other occupants!! Thirdly instead of joint bed we were given 2 single beds and when i requested for joining of those 2 beds, Manager told me around 4 pm that "Sir staff has left for the day and nothing can be done now". I was totally disappointed with the hotel and its staff..!! Totally avoidable hotel..!!!!!

"Family friendly"

qam_raza, London, United Kingdom 09/08/2017

If you are on a budget, it's a great hotel. Friendly staff and pretty decent breakfast. There are 2 metro options, Larissa and Metaghouxio, Both which are very close to Syntagma. There's a mini pool on the Roof top terrace. For food in the area, I would highly recommend the Bread factory, located next to the Metaghouxio station. They have a great selection of tiropitas (greek cheese pastries), biscuits, baklavas, ice cream etc - very affordable

"Time to find another hotel in Athens"

cadici, Blue Mountains 18/07/2017

Stayed here many times and was more than happy, until latest stay. Made a friendly advice to staff that the toaster didn't work and was asked 'so'. Standards are slipping. I will stay elsewhere. There a many hotels in this price range with good srvice.

"Amazing rooftop but not great part of town"

DubaiRussells, Dubai, United Arab Emirates 15/07/2017

Stayed for 3 nights. Seems to be the hub for young travellers. Not a great part of town but easy access to metro. Lovedddd the rooftop bar and the bar lady was amazing and really passionate about her job and country. The pool was freezing but the view was incredible! Breakfast wasn't too bad. Staff were friendly despite limited English. Enjoyed our stay and interactions.

"Great especially for young travellers"

User 14/07/2017

Great place, helpful and friendly staff especially at the reception. The lady at the rooftop bar was amazing and helpful and you could clearly see she enjoyed her job. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Pool was small. Recommend this especially for the young travellers as the rooftop was buzzing till early morning. Great variety for breakfast. Would definitely recommend to travellers and especially young travellers who would like to meet other young travellers from around the world. Thank you for our comfortable stay.

"basic hotel , with very nice view of the Aropolis"

danlucamatei, Bucharest, Romania 12/07/2017

basic rooms , poor bathroom , poor air conditioning , very nice terrace , very nice and helpful staff , very good breakfast , not very well located, but as conclusion for a city break is ok , try to get rooms with balcony

"School tour-served its purpose"

User 10/07/2017

I would not choose this hotel if you are traveling for leisure. It is a great student traveler hub. When we arrived there where hundreds of high school students staying there. The location was great, a few blocks from the subway.

"Basic hotel "

User 09/07/2017

We only had one night here but found the hotel was fairly basic and wouldn't really recommend it to be honest. It's a short enough taxi ride to the centre of Athens and it has a lovely view of the Acropolis from the rooftop at night. However all in all the rooms are dated and our bathroom had a big puddle in it because the drain was in the wrong spot so that was very poor. Breakfast was very mediocre as well. Very much a budget hotel in my view.

"An ordinary hotel with an extraordinary view."

mike20212015, Maastricht, The Netherlands 06/07/2017

From all outward appearances, this hotel is very ordinary. It's not dirty or broken down by any means. It's just very plain jane. Our room on the third floor was cramped and very vanilla. There weren't even any pictures hanging on the wall. The bathroom was even more cramped, with the toilet almost tucked away under the sink. If you come by car, you'll have to park on the street, which can be quite noisy. Also, there is nothing of interest in this neighborhood. We really didn't even find a restaurant nearby. However, except for some carpet stains in the hallway, it was clean and well kept, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They even severed up a nice breakfast. And they offered a buffet dinner for €14. It's also close to the metro station which is extremely handle to get to the tourist sites. But this hotel's claim to fame is the view from the roof top bar. From here, you get a 360 degree view over all of Athens. And at night, the Acropolis is lit up, making for a memorable moment. Enjoy a glass of wine and soak it all in.

"Rock hard beds, great view of Acropolis at night"

User 26/06/2017

We stayed here as part of a tour group during a trip to Italy and Greece. Our group was at this hotel for three nights. We stayed in two different rooms. You might as well sleep on a slab of plywood- I had zero minutes of sleep at this hotel because of the beds. The food in the dining room was excellent. The roof has a small swimming pool and bar area with fantastic night view of the Acropolis. Except for the beds our stay was pleasant. The rooms are dated but clean. Best Western, this hotel needs new mattresses!

"7th visit at the Candia"

Art D, Cincinnati, Ohio 25/06/2017

This Hotel specializes in the personal touch. I have been stating here since 2007. Each time I have been warmly welcomed and treated exceptionally well. The staff go far beyond their duty and truly care for the people. It has become a home away from home.

dutemplar, Doha, Qatar 23/06/2017

Stayed here with a tour group. A decently comfortable room. A nice balcony with a view. The rooftop lounge was nice. The rooftop pool a little small but good. The restaurant was OK. The breakfasts were OK. For the price, a good deal and not inconvenient to everywhere downtown.

"Awesome hotel! "

User 28/05/2017

I travel internationally a lot. Arriving at night and seeing the Acropolis lit up from the roof deck bar was spectacular! The breakfast offering will satisfy given all the options they provide. Clean, safe and close to the metro, I strongly recommend this hotel for any traveler.

"Short stay in Athens"

967gerbens, Naarden, The Netherlands 27/05/2017

The hotel is suitable for a brief stay. The room was a bit cramped, with a bit outdated furniture. However the bed was excellent and the aico worked well. The breakfast was excellent. There is a nice roof terrace with view on the Acropolis and a small pool. The staff is friendly and helpful. The main disadvantage of the hotel is the noisy street in front (day and night) so you have to sleep with windows closed if you have a front or sidestreet room, only at the back is it quiet at night. The hotel is about 300m from a metrostation (two stops to city centre), and within walking distance from the Archeology Museum.

"Basic tourist hotel, up for Refurbishment"

User 23/05/2017

Very friendly staff, but very basic accommodation ready for a thorough refurbishment. Decent breakfast served however. The roof top "swimming pool" is a good joke, it has only the size of a small hot tub.

"A Decent Hotel With Very Accommodating Staff"

Linto1964, Toronto, Canada 16/05/2017

I stayed here for 3 nights recently. My room was a decent size. There was a fruit basket, bottle of water, and small bottle of wine waiting for me when I arrived. There was also a kettle, with tea and coffee making supplies. There is one restaurant on the main floor. Buffet breakfast is included with the room. The buffet has a wide variety of choice which attempts to appeal to all European cultures. The hotel also serves a buffet dinner for 14 Euros. The buffet changes daily and the list of foods is posted in the elevators. The hotel hosts a constant stream of French student tour groups. The F & B Manager, and his staff tried hard to make sure that I was satisfied, even when the students were in the restaurant. The rooftop has a swimming pool, bar, and patio. The swimming pool was disappointing. It was oval shaped, not more than 15 feet (3 metres) at it's longest point, and only 3 feet (1 metre) deep. The patio is large. The bartender is one of the friendliest people that I have ever met.

"Substandard Hotel!"

MOMOVT, Waitsfield, Vermont, USA 26/04/2017

Hotel Candia is a substandard hotel. Upon arrival with our student group I was given room 202 which smelled like sewage and had not been thoroughly cleaned. Others in our group also complained about a bad smell in their rooms. Within a few hours I changed to room 523, which smelled better and was cleaner although if you opened a window, cigarette smoke from the alley below filled the room. As for the beds: The sheets were clean, the blankets and spreads were old and sketchy, the mattresses need updating. This hotel caters to student groups and since the chaperones of some groups ignore their students' behavior, this hotel is very noisy and can even be intimidating to other students and guests. Additionally, one student in our group uses a wheelchair and found this hotel inaccessible without a lot of assistance. On the plus side, the staff were very courteous and accommodating and the food for breakfast and dinner was above average.

"Very poor"

User 22/04/2017

4 stars? Is that a joke? 2 stars is more realistic. We have paid for 2 nights and left after one. Breakfast closes at 9.30 in weekends and the waiters clean around you when you are still eating, no hot water, very noisy, bad quality furniture, dirty, scary elevator and a receptionist sitting while talking to his clients.

"Good Hotel for its Price"

User 20/04/2017

We stayed four nights in this hotel and it was perfect for the price we paid. The room was clean and the beds were good. Nothing too fancy but was to the point and efficient. It's conveniently a couple of metro stops from the Acropolis, Monostraki, and Syntagma Square which was a plus. If you're looking for an economical, not too fancy, and conveniently located hotel then this is perfect for you Only negative I can think about is the slow wifi in the rooms

"Great for groups"

Graham B, Bedford, UK 19/04/2017

I took a school party of 18 students (16 to 18 year olds) to Athens and we stayed at Candia Hotel. This hotel has transformed itself to specialise in groups. The rooms were clean, the food was reasonable and the location was good, 3 stops on the metro to the city center. The hotel is not in a scenic part of town, does not have views of the Acropolis but for the price we paid, this was acceptable. There is a roof-top terrace and a small open-air pool.

"Wonderful view, great breakfast buffet, nice rooms"

User 12/04/2017

We went on an organized trip to Greece. Our tour organizer had booked this hotel. First room with the view of the petrol pump was a little small but amazingly clean. The bed-sheets and towels were speck less and crisp. The WiFi was great. Second room(We came back from islands and stayed again at this hotel for 1 more day) was big and again very clean and nice. There was a small problem with the door lock. But we had a city tour planned. We felt so safe that we kept our room unlocked while they worked on the lock and went for the tour. I must tell you about the breakfast. It is from 6.30 to 9.30 am and the spread is amazing. There are so many items in the buffet that you go mad deciding which one to skip. The staff is really good and helpful. The nearest metro station in Metaxourghio. You can easily walk to the National Archaelogical Museum from here. If you travel by public transport, you can easily do so from this location. We had a great experience!

"Poor hotel in the vicinity of the Metaxourgio Metro Station"

Lieven G, Wielsbeke, Belgium 05/04/2017

The hotel facilities are poor : a very small bathroom in a small bedroom. Matrasses are very hard to sleep on. Noisy vicinity (dense traffic on the road and the trains on the railroad). Noisy atmosphere with large groups of students in teh entry hall, the elevators and the corridors. Breakfast is good, but the quality of lunch and dinner is rather poor.

"Hotel for noisy school trips"

Veronika H, Michalovce, Slovakia 12/03/2017

The hotel is pretty avarage in quite horrible part of the city (full of stray dogs, homeless people, smelly garbage in the street...) Good points are: it is near to Larissis metro station, cheap prize, daily cleaning. I had really bad experience with very noisy teenager school trips who made it impossible to sleep. And of course, the other thing which made my night sleepless was the busy road and railway right under the windows. Little advice: Ask for the room which doesnt face this road

"Great location and staff"

User 21/02/2017

Thank you to the helpful and friendly staff, our room was clean and tidy and the location was perfect for getting around. Two metro stations just five minutes walk. I'd you can walk to the centre in twenty minutes .

"Small rooms but very good location!"

Tsvetelina L, Samokov, Bulgaria 04/01/2017

Very well centrally located hotel, walking distance to Athens center, the square, Acropolis etc.. The rooms are very small but that's ok if you are just for 1 night. Breakfast is just ok. Nice lobby area.

"Fine and cheep hotel"

User 02/11/2016

Okay place to stay if you just need a room to sleep in. It's close to the metro and the staff is super nice. The roof on the hotel is nice made withe a okay cheep bar and a little swimming pool. The breakfast is a little boring, but okay. All in all, it's a nice hotel if you want a cheep place to stay ;-)

"Great value for money"

ariannadp, London, United Kingdom 25/10/2016

Cheap and nice. Basic but nice and clean! It has a pool on the roof and good view of the acropolis. Breakfast is basic but some good food. Not the orange juice! Yoghurt really good! Area is ok not the best of Athens but well served by the metro.

"Good value for money "

Emma S, Angers, Pays de la Loire, France 22/10/2016

This hotel was while not the most luxurious nice, clean and the staff were lovely. The hotel is very close to a metro station meaning the centre of Athens is only 10 minutes away. The area is not very touristy but we were able to come across a few lovely restaurants (notably a taverna one street away) that were outstanding and exceptionally cheap. I would definitely recommend if you are intending to sight see Athens and not spend a great amount of time in the hotel but saying that the rooftop bar is a perfect place to relax after a long day complete with panoramic views of Athens and the parthenon. My only complaint is that there were many large groups of annoying school children however it is completely unfair to judge the hotel based on other guests, they simply made for some loud nights!

"Good Value"

cadici, Blue Mountains 19/10/2016

Stay here each time I am in Athens. Great value, clean, friendly staff, good size rooms and, if you are lucky a great view of the Acropolis. Nice pool on the roof top. Breakfast is nice. Good value hotel.

"value for money"

User 18/10/2016

Very nice roof terrasse with a bar and a little pool and with fantastic view to Akropolis and over the city Nice friendly staff - a little noisy but Okay Breakfast is good, however missing real juice..

"Unexpected Pleasure"

wolfystiles, Barnstaple, United Kingdom 13/10/2016

The hotel although situated in a strange place was only a short walk from 2 metro stations and was very easily accessible by foot. It has local shops and cafes nearby which was convenient too. The rooms were spacious and had everything that you'd expect from a hotel. The beds were not uncomfortable and it was clean. The balcony doors were sound proofed well to block out traffic noise. The food was buffet style and I found no complaints. The views of the city are great and you also get to see the acropolis from the location. The best part of this hotel is the service. I had the pleasure to meet Domna and Olga who were fantastic. They served meals and also served on the roof bar. Not only did they keep all the guests happy with entertainment (such as greek dancing) and with witty banter, they were personable and made me feel very welcome. They made the experience a true pleasure. I would definitely return here.

"Budget hotel"

KHadventure, Edmonton, Canada 08/10/2016

We stayed here for 2 nights. The room was spacious but the beds were not that comfortable. The air conditioning felt like it was on its last legs and the mini fridge didn't work. It does look like it is in a sketchy area, but we never felt unsafe. Super close to the metro so it was convenient to get places. Water was always hot for the shower and continental breakfast was good. Would only stay here again if we had to.

dianabrown1956, Shelton, Washington 06/10/2016

Old but nice hotel. We got a top floor with a view of the Acropolis (beautiful ). Room was small, but clean. Shower head needed updating . Breakfast was fine. The roof top pool was quite tiny (amazing how the photos make it look huge). Staff was kind and helpful. It is close to the metro and hop on/off bus (our favorite thing-- choose the yellow ones)

"Good location but very basic rooms"

kbharlalka, New Delhi, Delhi, India 03/10/2016

The hotel was located in close proximity to the city center and most of the sightseeing points in Athens which was very convenient. The staff was extremely responsive and helpful. The only low point was that the rooms and the washrooms were not very comfortable or spacious.

"Greece holidays "

narayanmane, Muscat, Oman 22/09/2016

Candia is located conveniently with easy access to Metro and markets. Rooms are large with a balcony to seat two comfortably. Front desk and restaurant staff is very friendly and helpful. They make you feel at home. Great experience.

"Clean basic room, friendly helpful staff."

Irene J, Montreal, Canada 19/09/2016

Very basic but clean room. We wanted to be close to Nat. Archeological Museum, only 10 min. walk(great visit)close to train station, and bus station as well. Good breakfast selection...very helpful, friendly reception staff, especially George who gave us good info as to how to get anywhere, either but metro, bus, etc. He also helped book with Go Tours, great day trip to Delphi, loved it! and special thanks to George as well for suggesting visit to Temple of Poseidon on our last day there, showed us how to walk to bus terminal, absolutely loved this beautiful coastal ride to the Temple, wonderful!!! Enjoyed Acropolis view from top of hotel with a drink in the evening.

"Value for Money with Excellent Staff"

europeansummer2016, Sydney, Australia 15/09/2016

This is a budget hotel and in this context, I considered my stay to be excellent value for money. I stayed here on two occasions. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The rooftop bar and views towards the Acropolis are amazing. The included food was good with excellent service from staff. The location wasn't perfect, but you get what you pay for and it is within a short commute of the main city centre. Well done.

"Best Western Candia"

hilalahmed442016, Karachi, Pakistan 15/09/2016

REVIEW: My wife and I spent a week in Athens and stayed at the Best Western Candia, which is definitely the best in value, so far as rates and location is concerned. Rooms were spacious with all facilities and amenities. Excellent breakfast and very pleasant and professional staff. Ms. Maria Letsou, Sales & Reservation Manager, was extraordinarily helpful, cooperative and obliging. She above all, ensured we had an unforgettable vacation.

"Nice, clean but weird location"

User 12/09/2016

This hotel was basic but nice. The staff were kind, and the rooms were a decent size. Great view from upstairs pool. My only issue with this hotel was firstly, its location. The group of us felt quite unsafe walking around this part of town in Athens. It is not within walking distance to the greatest selection of eating places or cafes...had to get an uber to go to anywhere with good vibes. Also, the other disappointment was that laundry services are "offered", however customers have to walk to a lady (situated a couple blocks away) and get it done there, not on hotel premises. Overall, good for a simple stopover.

"could be better"

826dianai, Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates 06/09/2016

The noise from the street was very loud, impossible to sleep, always we was hearing noise from the upper floors. At the breakfast we was having during 7days same menu, nothing changed. We liked only the location of the hotel cz its was closed to the main metro station.

"OK, I will not go back again."

clintbo, Atlanta 06/09/2016

For 60euro I felt like it was a bit overpriced for some outdated features and decor. The staff were nice, breakfast was good nice selection, view from the top of the hotel where there is a pool was good. This was an extremely… Functional hotel if you are coming to take in all of Athens, and not relying on a luxurious hotel for part of your experience. I also stayed in hotel Oscar a few blocks away from best Western, and felt like the experience was a little better for €20 less a night.

"Good value hotel"

Heather G, Harrogate, England, United Kingdom 31/08/2016

We had limited options in choosing a hotel for our last minute trip to Athens, particularly given we wanted a pool. We were somewhat apprehensive, having seen some fairly unfavourable reviews, but we have been more than satisfied with this hotel. The rooms were clean, a/c worked perfectly and our teenage sons had no wi-fi issues. Breakfast offered plenty of options. The pool was exactly the size you would expect on the roof top of a city hotel - large enough for us to take a refreshing dip post sightseeing. The sun-loungers could ideally do with mattresses, but that would be my only "gripe". We felt perfectly safe walking to/from the metro, even at night and the metro itself is clean, quick, safe and cheap, making it very easy to get into the centre.

"A good hotel"

User 24/08/2016

The location is not really good, in front of the train tracks, you will need to walk about 10 min to reach the subway to go in the center of Athens. The staff is really nice and the room are clean with modern bathroom. I don't know if it's the usage in Greece but we didn't have a double bed. It was 2 singles placed next to each other. But still, the roof pool is amazing (little 3m diameter circle but the view is crazy) and the breakfast is more than ok.

"Perfect for what we needed"

IrishGal8927, Ireland 20/08/2016

Positives--So this hotel is close to the metro, it was so easy to get here from the airport ( €10, blue airport line, cchange at syntyntagma square to red line to Larissa station ( direction of anthoupoli) takes exactly one hour, tge hotel is a three minute walk from the station ( go past petrol station on left side of street) it is also the line that brings you to the Acropolis (15 mins), near a hop on stop for the tourist bus, staff very friendly, let us check in at 8am , good breakfast , rooftop bar is cute with great view, pool is just a plunge pool but does the job, air con was good, room clean and good wifi. Negatives - nothing much , the rooms are a little nosy, ask for a room not facing the main road, the location itself has nothing really going for it , I didn't feel at all unsafe but just no restaurants etc nearby. To conclude I would stay again for the price , you will be so busy it will only be a bed and breakfast you need

"good location"

PSAKTHEGREAT, Nicosia, Cyprus 15/08/2016

the hotel is old but the rooms are very clean and the staff very friendly. great view of Acropolis and Lycabitos! the roof garden is perfect but the swimming pool very small!! easy access to metro Metaxourgio station!!! you have to be carefully in the metro for many reasons!!especially your money and your mobile!!

User 15/08/2016

It s just what needed .. not a luxurious hotel and the pool is too dmall for those who wanna swim and all the channels tv are almost greek The hotel is not close to the center You have to walk like 150 m to get to the metro station and change metro like 2 times to get to the center (monastiraki) But if u just need somewhere to sleep , have breakfast and take a shower it s not that bad ( but the cleanliness of the bathroom wasn't at its best on our first day)

"Great view of Acropolis from my room. Quick wifi everywhere. Staff very friendly. Clean hotel. Great breakfast."

Nicholas T, Kos, Dhodhekanisos, Greece 13/08/2016

My room very big and my balcony. Wifi very quick everywhere. Staff very friendly. View of Acropolis from my room great especially during the night. The hotel is very clean. Sales department very helpful. Breakfast very rich with great variety of things to choose from. Receptionists very professional and the lady in charge also. Owner of hotel very kind. The room has everything you need and A/C works great. It's situated between two metro stations and the area is very safe with police protection. You can get to all major attractions through metro and other transportation. I've visited this hotel many times and am very satisfied. During the summer the pool is open. You can also have a drink at the pool bar during day and night time. Great view from the top of pool and bar area.

"Perfect room for the price, rooftop small swimming pool a real bonus"

MBrthlt, Paris, France 10/08/2016

I was positively surprised by this hotel, that I choose as a "last minute booking". The location is ok (not the most touristic area, but 5mn from the subway, and close from a lively square built around a church with several restaurants and café). The outside of the building might not be impressive but the rooms seem to have been recently renovated, they are spacious with a good bathroom, and ours (on the 6th floor) had a nice balcony. The rooftop terrasse is great with a real panoramic view on the city, and if the swimming pool is small (a meter deep and 6 meters long) it is a nice bonus. The staff is friendly, the breakfast good. We would come back with pleasure

"Fantastic hotel"

User 10/08/2016

Brill location, great food, friendly staff, George is ace you must say hi to George for us he made our holiday :) best holiday in a long time metro is easy to use and the open bus tours are ace. Small pool on roof was bigger than we thought and even we had a fantastic view of the Acropolis from our balcony and the roof garden

"Good standard hotel in a good location"

User 02/08/2016

I was here in July on an organised tour for four nights. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Wifi and air conditioning worked well. Pool and rooftop terrace were perfect for afternoon/evening relaxing. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel - food was decent and there was enough variety that you did not get board. My only suggestion is this: this hotel is a budget hotel mainly catering for groups - a more economical laundry service would have been used by everyone in my group if it had been a available - prices on the list in the room were extremely expensive - maybe something for hotel management to consider.

User 01/08/2016

I visited this hotel on the very first night i arrive in the athens. Me and my friend didn't have any reservation but luckily we get room here for 2 nights. So service was good. Room was quite big. Receptionists was good. Bathroom was good. Only thing we didn't like was air conditioning.. It was hell we couldn't sleep whole night .. I don't know why it was like that . May be they have old ac's or room was so big that its unable to make it cool down. Rest everything was ok. There was pool and bar on the top floor you can enjoy there in the night.. So please consider this point. Because in summer you can't sleep without good air conditioner..

"Worst beds ever"

User 28/07/2016

This hotel definitely needs an update. The rooms are outdated and have the worst beds I have ever slept on. It felt as though we were sleeping on plywood. The rooftop bar is pretty nice and gives good views of the city. The rooftop pool they have is much more of a bathtub size. We would not stay here again.

"Good location, bad air-conditioning"

Mahuya, Bangalore, India 27/07/2016

I mentioned location because all the major attraction points - Plaka, Lycabattus, Syntagma Square are about a max of 5 euros taxi ride. And the reception calls the taxi for you - so it's really convenient. Let's talk about the rooms, they are really clean, and well maintained - the only issue that we faced was the air conditioning. The room was never cool enough for the Athens heat. We moved to two other rooms and finally settled on a 3rd one. There are lots and lots of rooms in the hotel. If you are not happy with your room, just ask for another, or another. :) There is a swimming pool and a bar on the terrace and you have a great view of the city. It opens only at 7 pm. Great place to party, or relax. Please take out time and spend at least half an hour during your stay here. You will love it. Breakfast spread is quite good. Starts really early and continues till 9:30 am at least. The staff is helpful and friendly, quite at par with the rest of their countrymen :)

"Not bad, clean and relaxing, staff at the reception are nice and helpful"

User 24/07/2016

I was there for 5 nights. It is clean and the roof top is a nice place to relax and have a drink in the evening. It overlooks the city. Staff at the reception are nice and helpful. Wifi connection is good. The breakfast is okay, there is a good variety of food for different tastes.

"So and so"

Marco5872, Italy 17/07/2016

I cannot judge this hotel according to the price payed since it was used during an organized travel by Alpitour (Tour Grecia Classica). Anyway the hotel was too noisy especially during the night, possible caused by the high number of guys and girls from European school which was present for all our stays (4 nights). Service was good, unless the clean of the room was quite poor. The hotel is not is the city center and during the evening you should take the metro to reach the city centre (during the day you may decide to go for a long walk but the area is not higly recommended during the evening).

This is a budget 3 star hotel. The most annoying thing here is the wifi is just useless ... and the ac hardly works ... rooms are clean . Rooftop drinks place has a nice view of acropolis especially at night . The pool is small . Breakfast buffet is just average . Location wise its near centre .

"One night stay in Athens"

Tricia S, Charlotte, North Carolina 10/07/2016

Our family of 4 stayed here after visiting the Cyclades. The staff was friendly and the hotel was clean, but the hotel is pretty basic and very dated. They do serve a complementary breakfast and have a nice outdoor bar on the top level with a great view of the Acropolis. The room itself felt more like a hostel instead of a hotel. The beds (4 singles) were very hard, so may be a problem if you have neck or back problems.

"Good location, friendly staff"

_TiinaH123, Sipoo, Finland 08/07/2016

I spent four days with kids in the hotel. Outskirts are quite offputting, but the hotel was nice and clean inside. The location was convenient between two metro stations and within a nice walking distance from Omonia. The wifi quality was a bit of an issue to the generation who wants to be online constantly. The kids were happy about the dipping pool (it was quite hot) and really liked the very homey dinner buffet - excellent fasilaki!

"Excellent, but for wifi"

W4121GBjavierm, Gdansk, Poland 03/07/2016

We spent a really nice time. We have been a week in the hotel. The room was comfortable, good cleaning. Free buffet breakfast was quite average, not plenty of variety. Problems with internet in the rooms. Very charming, although really small swimming pool in the roof. All people from reception, but one we meet the first night, were really helpful and polite.

"A substandard hotel"

User 01/07/2016

Outward appearance of the hotel is not appealing at all. The staff is curt. The air conditioning is ineffective. The room was very cramped. The buffet had a sumptuous spread. The rooftop view to the acropolis was breathtakingly beautiful especially during the night.

"Rooms ok"

Bebra100, Rotterdam, The Netherlands 29/06/2016

The rooms were clean. The bathroom was not too big, you have to take a shower in the bathtub. The beds were ok. On the rooftop you had a great view over Athens including the Parthenon! A small swimmingpool and a bar was also present on the rooftop. The elevators were really small (2 persons at most!)

"Good location and nice breakfast"

medhasum, Bengaluru (Bangalore), India 25/06/2016

We have just completed our 2-night stay at the BW Candia in Athens. As the other reviews say the location of the hotel is good, a few 100 mts from the nearest metro which takes you to all the famous places. There are though very few places to eat around the hotel. The rooms are small but very clean. We faced no problems with the neighbourhood and felt safe. It was also not as noisy as what the other reviewers are saying. The large buffet breakfast was the highlight of our stay. Plenty of options for everyone and tasty greek yoghurt is on offer. I would recommend staying at this hotel if you are not too fussy about room size.

"Ok stay"

jonbruhm, Halifax, NS 25/06/2016

When you're a little (or a lot) jet lagged and are arriving in a city for the first time, it's really important to be able to find your hotel easily. I had directions and was ready to roll, but after exiting the metro station, there were no signs indicating which was Diligianni Street. That's not the hotel's fault, but the sign for the hotel is on the side street, not on Diligianni, so it was a tough start to the trip. Anyway, I arrived in Athens on the hottest day of the year and my room's air conditioner didn't have much power, so I also opened the refrigerator to speed it up - that helped. I actually stayed three nights in total in three different rooms (once on my own, twice with a group en route to and from Mykonos and, all in all, the rooms aren't fancy, but the price was right and the location was reasonable, directly between two metro stops. The wifi was awful but the buffet breakfast and dinner were decent, and the rooftop pool/bar/lounge area offered a lovely nighttime view of the Acropolis and a panoramic view of the city. Not bad.

"average hotel... Clean but bit old itnerior"

Deep4103, Ahmedabad, India 22/06/2016

We stayed for 2 nights. Easy check in & Check out. Also they give details for near by places while checking is. Which i likes. Rooms are clean , Spacious but bit old interior. Swimming pool is too small. Location is good. Near by metro station. Also indian restaurant delivers the food. You will find menu in hotel lobby. Overall ok ok. You can stay if old interior not a problem.

"Fabulous hotel with very friendly staff"

danigirl01978, sheffield 11/06/2016

We got back from a week in Athens yesterday afternoon and we stayed at this lovely hotel. Our room was very spacious and had a fabulous balcony, we were on the 6th floor so could see for miles. The staff were extremely friendly and the food was great too. Breakfast had plenty of choice whether you wanted a full cooked meal or cereal/pastries. We ate in the hotel on 3 evenings while there and each time the food was of a good variety plus wine included. The rooftop bar was reasonably priced and although the pool is small it is perfect to have a dip in on a really hot day. Whenever we needed to know anything about the local area or book a taxi to go anywhere the reception staff were more than happy to help and they had a good variety of maps to help you get around. We used the metro as our preferred method of transport while there and €9 each for a 5 day ticket was great value and so quick to get around the city. We did so much in a week but plan to return and stay in this lovely friendly hotel again as there is so much more to see.

"Family of 4 from AUS"

lisadelekal, Melbourne, Australia 06/06/2016

Room adequate, small hotel room but large balcony. Awesome views, pool small but perfect for children! Amazing views, close to train station. Trains cheap, easy to use but taxi, even though a little more expensive are safer - we felt a little uncomfortable on the trains at times!

"Candia Hotel"

Ralph B, Charlotte, North Carolina 26/05/2016

Nice hotel. Great breakfast buffet. Room was nice. View from top Terrace was awesome. It does look a little dated but for the price was a great value. Was treated nicely and professionally. Would stay there again.

"very good hotel"

ValMayland, Aylesbury, UK 23/05/2016

This hotel is like an oasis in the desert. The area isn't that good, but I knew that before I arrived. Very easy to find using public transport, and very pleasantly surprised. I had room number 520 and my friend had 518. View from balcony isn't great but that didn't matter as the small rooftop pool and huge bar area are fantastic. Rooms are very nice especially as mine was used as a single, but beware of noisy hell raisers at 3 and 4am!! I had to complain to reception after I asked them to be quiet, but to no avail. That did the trick!! Breakfast was excellent, couldn't fault it at all, except maybe brown rolls would be a nice addition. I am vegetarian, but my needs were met adequately!! Two bar ladies on rooftop bar were the most friendly and helpful. Reception men staff were a bit grumpy. Still helpful though. They confirmed by phone two trips for us. All in all I would definitely return, but has to be between May and September when the pool is in use!!! A huge asset to this very good hotel. Area isn't nice, but only 3 stops on metro to centre!

User 18/05/2016

I was in this hotel for a culture trip and it's good if you are looking for something with low cost. The rooms are clean, but they are not the biggest. Showers are clean, but not luxurious. The pool on the roof is a big plus for the hotel, eventhough it's really tiny so you can't really swim, but it can be relaxing for a few minutes after a tough day. The historic centre is two metro stations away. You should not go for a walk around the hotel during night, espescially if you're a woman. The area is really scary and dangerous, better remain inside or use a taxi if you want to go out.

Nomes88, Adelaide, Australia 05/05/2016

Stayed here for 3 nights and thought I was staying in the Greek version of the Ghetto. Where can I start on this joke of a hotel? - we stayed in three different rooms over the course of a week due to a tour we were on. Room 103, 303 & 503 and all had terrible wifi! The only reliable wifi was in the hotel lobby unless you were willing to sit outside your hotel room next to the door. - dinner was €14 for all you eat buffet. Terrible food! We have paid less euros for better food elsewhere in Greece. Undressed salad vegetables and semi hot meats are on offer along with only one choice for dessert. The first time we had dinner there it was included in our tour the next time we paid as we were too scared to leave the hotel at night. I had quiche and Creme Caramel for dinner - both of which are French dishes not Greek! Along with some sad salad. Whilst eating dinner the maitre D decided he would help himself to some dinner and grabbed a bread roll in his hand and started stuffing a bread roll full of food with it before walking away to eat it - we were staying the second night with our tour and then the third on our own and asked if we could stay in the same room as we had finalised our tour and had booked a night on our own and they said no that we would have to leave our bags at reception and then come back later to re-check in as they had another tour group coming through. We packed our bags, headed downstairs and then re-explained our situation and the receptionist claims he didn't understand me and that we can just move to another room so we had to go upstairs and unpack again in another room just for one night! - room 103 didn't have a slot in the wall for the shower head that was on a hose so you had to hold the shower head in your hand while trying to shower or leave it in the holder which was at knee height - the hotel is in a TERRIBLE location!!! One of the cab drivers who dropped us to the hotel told us to not leave the hotel at night and to instead call a cab because it's dangerous. The streets reak of urine and fish, stray poor cats everywhere, people having domestics in the street, trash and graffiti everywhere and this is literally next door to the hotel! There's also no laundry facilities on site so you have to take a stroll into the ghetto and pay €10 for a load to be washed and dryed! - we missed our transfer to the airport and when we queried with the transfer company they said they sent a fax to the hotel saying the transfer was an hour earlier and we never received it so the hotel not passing this Information on cost us €44 euro that now we have to fight to get back. I would never EVER stay here again and it has really ruined my Greek experience.

"Near the city centre."

User 02/05/2016

I was on a school trip from Italy and I spent two nights here. Buffets were varied and the food was good. Rooms were cleaned. The position of the hotel is strategic because it is quarter an hour (walking) from the centre.

"Convenient hotel in good price"

Stefanakidis K, Athens, Greece 27/04/2016

situated in the center of athens, candia is a friendly hotel with warm staff and nice rooms. recently started its renovation and will provide a bigger variety of services. smiley personnel especially in reception and restaurant. serves breakfast in a big buffet full of food and juices from Mediterranean. the best drinks are served on the roof garden bar where a small swimming pool is situated.

"Good location, nice rooms, great breakfast"

Doma27, Matlock, United Kingdom 12/04/2016

Couldn't fault this place for proximity to the center and value for money. Main pro's were -free wifi throughout, -pool on the roof with stunning night-time view of Acropolis -great breakfasts -friendly staff Con's: -Decor a bit drab -Fellow guests often young and loud - only noticeable at pool bar on roof.

"Great Hotel, Brilliant Staff"

TheHitman69, Manchester, England 07/04/2016

The staff were fantastic, very helpful and answered all our questions. Despite what some reviews say about the area we found perfectly safe with several bars and restaurants (and a supermarket) within a few minutes walk. Karaiskaki Square is five minute down the road where there are plenty places for food and drink along with a metro station. Larrisa railways station is five minute walk in the opposite direction where there is another metro station so transport is on the doorstep. Breakfast was more than adequate to set us all up for the day. I have to agree with some reviews regarding the wifi. While I found it fine most for most of our visit there were times when it would simple drop out but I don't think this is a hotel issue as we all found that tended to happen at other locations too. The rooms were clean and spacious and I had no issue with noise as some reviews mention despite our room being at the from of the hotel facing the railway line (I don't think it's an overly busy station). All in all great value, great location and fantastic staff.

"Bad Area, Websites lie"

User 01/04/2016

I didnt like this hotel first of all its in quite a bad area with alot of graffiti rubbish on the streets also would walk around there by myself at night not alot of touristic places to eat around just cafe's for locals the hotel inside wasnt bad though breakfast was great rooms were fine with a balcony with a view. The pool was closed which was the main reason we booked the Hotel very disappointing

"Near to 2 metro stations. Big comfortable room with great view of the city. Quick wifi. Safe area."

Nicholas T, Kos, Dhodhekanisos, Greece 27/03/2016

The hotel is located between two metro stations. Very safe area. I have come to this hotel lots of times. My room was very big and comfortable. Heating perfect. Soap, shampoo, shower gel, hairdryer and clean sheets daily changed. All staff very friendly and helpful in anyway. Very clean room and quick wifi everywhere. National railway near the hotel incase you want to travel in other parts of Greece. Police protection everywhere and police station near the hotel. Police protection always in Metro stations. Breakfast with big variety to choose and delicious things to eat. 3 computers in the reception area if you want to print things or do anything else. The area has a big super market, small mini markets, theatres, lots of cafe and bars. Easy access by metro to big Malls, Syntagma Square, Monastiraki, Thissio and the Acropolis. Management of hotel very professional and helpful in anyway. I recommend this hotel to others. My personal experience staying there was perfect.

"Not so good"

petra V, Zagreb, Croatia 21/03/2016

I didn't like it at all. It's not the worst but it's not the best either. It's fairly clean and the stuff was okay. Not particulary friendly but not rude as well. I wouldn't go there again but for a night or two it's okay.

"EF Tours "

Jon P, Saint John, Canada 13/03/2016

We stayed here for 3 night while visiting Greece. We were traveling with high school students. The rooms we small and clean. The only complaint from the teens was the wifi wasn't accessible in the rooms. The staff was friendly and helpful. Thanks for the hospitality.

"basic, friendly and efficient - exactly as per expectations"

User 13/03/2016

My wife & I booked a short break on an airline package. We were quite certain what we had booked and really encountered no surprises. It is a budget hotel, and does not pretend to be other wise. Rooms are clean, the staff were very friendly and ever helpful. There are a number of rooms along the rather busy main road which can be very noisy and overlooks and (an even noisier) station. We requested another room after the first night. The person at the reception, a deceptively stern looking gentleman called George, but he was friendly and very helpful who did his best accommodate us. We were happy with the second room which was smaller but wasn't an issue - and it had a view of the fabulous Acropolis. The noise level was much reduced and we had a good sleep over the next few days that we were there. The breakfast was not extensive but more than adequate and tasty. Bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, juice, cake, fruits and the outstanding Greek yogurt .We never had dinner here because it closed at 9 pm. The best part of the of the hotel is the location - it is located 250 metres from the Metaxourghio Metro station (less than 10 minutes from the Acropolis) and close to the Monastiraki Square.

"Good place"

User 12/03/2016

I stayed in this hotel with my class for 2 days. The restaurant is good, even for particular diets like gluten-free or vegan. Most of the staff is gentle and available(not all). There is a good view from the roof of the building. The rooms are good, the WiFi is difficult to use and sometimes doesn't work.

"Noisy hotel a real Let down"

joseph j, London, Canada 06/03/2016

HOW FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL WERE THE STAFF? Nice friendly staff, not complaints. HOW CLEAN WAS THE ROOM? Clean and was serviced every day. HOW WHERE THE FACILITIES? The room was small but have a terrace, has a TV with only 3 international channels ,a fridge , a safe, and the air conditioner did only blow hot Air. The bathroom is small and the toilet is wedge in a corner making difficult to reach. The hotel had a swimming pool and bar in the roof but only opens in summer. HOW WAS THE FOOD? Breakfast is good, better actually than dinner, though is everyday the same. The quality of the drinks,(coffee, hot chocolate, wine, ) was not good. No juice served with breakfast just squash. DID YOU SLEEP WELL? No. The room gets too hot and I had to open the window from time to time. The pillows are very uncomfortable and the mattress is hard, the hotel and outside is very noisy in general WOULD YOU STAY AGAIN? No, though the staff were great there are many things to make a unpleasant stay, the fact that I didn't get a good sleep during my stay is as well a negative point IN GENERAL. Not the nicer Best western hotel I have been in. The hotel is on a main road and next to a train line, so I was kept awake by the traffic noise and the noise from train passing by every hour, on top of that this hotel is popular with groups of school children which kept running and hanging around the corridors. The fact that the door and the wall of the room are not very thick didn't help either.

"A good hotel for visiting Athens."

Angela M, Totnes, United Kingdom 05/03/2016

Great hotel for visiting all that Athens had, right next to the Metro. Helpful staff George in reception really kind and helpful, clean rooms, great breakfast to start your day. Very good value for money, would stay there again. Perhaps only downside it wasn't peaceful but so worn out after all our sight seeing it didn't seem to matter.

"A Good Affordable Hotel"

momfam2016, ??????, ?????? 16/02/2016

We enjoyed staying at your hotel. It is nice, cosy and clean. The staff are friendly and polite. The only thing I'd like to recommend is to add a chair/ armchair into the room for three people as well as a draining rack or additional pegs in the bathroom. Thanks for your kind service.

"Not really a 4* Hotel"

User 03/01/2016

You get what you pay, this is how i would describe this hotel. Its not close to a 4* hotel, but the stuff is really friendly and helpfull. The location is great, only 2 stations from the center. The WIFI is free but not really good, checking emails can take very long.

"Perfect view from my room."

Nicholas T, Kos, Dhodhekanisos, Greece 27/12/2015

The room had a perfect street view and the Acropolis. The staff where very helpful. Wifi was very quick in the room and everywhere else. Breakfast was really perfect. The fridge, hot water, air conditioning and safe where great. The balcony was very big. Safe area with police protection everywhere. 2 metro stations near the hotel and taxi's too. Near the railway station going to other parts of Greece.

"Good value for a convenient location"

VictoireWang, Geneva 30/11/2015

Do not expect comfortable bed, fancy breakfast, and soundproof rooms. But you are not paying for that either. It's not far from a subway station, which means you can get there from the airport taking the subway, and getting around in the city with the subway. In retrospect, i may have stayed in other hotels, like the Amalia hotel near Symtagma square.

"Home away from Home in Athens"

GlobalTrotster, Melbourne, Australia 23/11/2015

I have stayed at the Candia on several occasions in the past, but most recently in the summer of 2015 on 2 extended stays while there on business. Highlights and important points to consider: Location is between 2 Metro stops and is only 5-7 minutes to Syntagma Square and another 2 minutes to Acropolis via Metro. Restaurants and church squares also in the area for wandering around, but otherwise within a typical Athenian neighborhood. Rooms are clean and well appointed, but not 5 star luxury. If you want a good, clean budget oriented hotel, this is your place. Free Wifi on all floors and always working. Gorgeous rooftop terrace with a bar and a small swimming pool makes a perfect place to enjoy the gorgeous Athenian sunsets each evening, also with a view of the Acropolis. Breakfast buffet included, featuring eggs, bacon, sausages, yogurt, cereals, breads and toasts, coffee, tea, juices, etc. Great little bar area for afternoon coffee or drinks. Desk staff are fantastic and always helpful and courteous. They were like friends to me by the time I had to time I bring them all pizza! Thank you, Candia!

"Budget Hotel Better than Average"

cadici, Blue Mountains 18/11/2015

Nice size rooms, well maintained, clean and comfortable. Nice rooftop pool with great view of the Acropolis. Buffet breakfast is very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Price is good. Close to Metro stations and close to sights.

"Just right "

User 30/10/2015

The room was perfect, The free wifi signal was really good and the room was modern, clean and well presented. Every day we came back to the hotel after days out, the beds were made and towels were replaced. There were spare blankets and pillows in case you get cold at night and a welcome pack was provided. A lot of storage space for clothes with a safe in the wardrobe for your passports etc. On the roof there's a pool but do not be deceived, it's smaller than it looks! On the bright side you have an incredible view of the acropolis especially at night. The hotel is close to the metro which will get you almost everywhere in Athens. The staff was friendly during Breakfast and the breakfast buffet was really fulfilling aswell. Overall I would recommend this hotel.

"Great value hotel in Athens"

rubyredlips93, rubyredlips93 28/10/2015

Well appointed rooms, free wifi, working elevators, a good breakfast with a variety of foods, friendly reception staff and a fantastic rooftop bar. This hotel is fantastic value for money and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, would recommend to anyone travelling to Athens.

Reginald S, California, United States 27/10/2015

We didn't know what to expect when we booked since we had never been to Greece before. This place was awesome, the people friendly and helpful and really it puts many USA hotels to shame! Breakfast and the Dinner was excellent with a lot of variety.

"Great for traveling college students"

Kari E, Saint Cloud, Minnesota 12/10/2015

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during a 2 week college study abroad trip through Italy and Greece. We had a group of around 40 students and 2 professors. They accommodated all of us perfectly. I was impressed with the authentic Greek breakfast offered. This hotel was within close walking distance to many attractions and shopping centers. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

"Clean rooms, great staff but"

weenerx65, Innisfil, Canada 10/10/2015

This hotel caters to backpackers which love to party and keep everyone awake all night. They even went through the hall window and partied on our deck one night, which is fully accessible through that window. The room balcony should be blocked off or that window should be permanently locked. Lucky it was our last night or we would have not stayed because we did not feel safe at all. If it wasn't for the clean room and pleasant staff, I would have given this hotel a 1 star.

"Nice staff but very noisy hotel"

Lucyqua, Italy 09/10/2015

I stayed there for 2 nights (Room 424) in September, as part of a Group. POSITIVES: staff is nice and helpful. The Restaurant: was good, buffet style for both breakfast and dinner, and its staff was incredibly quick and efficient and very accommodating regarding opening and closing times. Room was of adequate size and I found the bed to be comfortable. Free wifi in the room, somewhat erratic at times. Nice rooftop bar. NEGATIVES: extremely noisy in the hallways at night, due to groups of boisterous teenagers (I believe on a school trip from a language school), running up and down the corridor, knocking on doors (including mine), talking loudly and shouthing. The noise only abated at around 3 a.m. Other members of my Group had similar complaints. Shower cubicle very small. I am M size and still found it difficult to move around. It was made even worse by an old style shower head which didn't work properly so that water splashed out of the cubicle. Location is not so good as it seems to be in a somewhat run down area of the city, so much so that both our local Guide and the Reception staff kept advising us to be very careful and not to stand outside the hotel's door. I am afraid I would not stay in this hotel again.

"Loved the warm and friendly welcome!"

Sue598, Western Ireland, Ireland 01/10/2015

We stayed here last night and were so impressed by how delightfully friendly and welcoming the staff are here! The room was great, aircon worked well, internet patchy but worked. I used the computers in the lobby to print out boarding passes (free). We had a set meal in the restaurant for 14 Euro. Apparently they said, it was normally a buffet, but not last night as they only had a few for dinner. So we had a choice of starters, mains, and fruit for dessert with wine. It was all very nice and the breakfast was even better! A very good selection of food and beverages for breakfast set us up for our onward travels. We would definitely stay here again!

"Average hotel. Good short stay and not bad for travel transfer."

Petio T, Sofia, Bulgaria 16/09/2015

Not bad hotel. Good short stay and not bad for travel transfer. Good location, closer to Omonia square and not far from Monostiraki (2-3 metro station, or walk). Some room have good view. Very, very small bathroom. But service and staff is very nice.

"Best Western Candia Hotel Is The Best"

miesha66, Salt Lake City, Utah 04/09/2015

Loved it there! The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean, and the food at the breakfast and buffet was fabulous! I loved that I could use their internet anytime and for however long I needed! We stayed three nights and enjoyed going to some fun places. we recommend this hotel to everybody!

"Regular hotel!"

84rodrigo, Mexico City, Mexico 24/08/2015

The hotel is well located in general, but the pictures from the website looks much better that how the hotel really is. It's missing maintenance. The breakfast was very simple, the same everyday, with no many things to choose. We got a room with four beds, 2 of them were very comfortable but the other 2 ones were very hard and almost impossible to sleep. You can hear the noise from the streets all day all night. It has a swimming pool on the top, which is really very refreshing after a sunny day in Athens and the bar next to the pool is quite nice for having a long evening have some nice drinks.

"Wouldn't stay again."

m_hall1988, Newcastle, Australia 18/08/2015

Internet was unusable as it was so slow and the air conditioning did not keep the room cool. Bed was very hard and the area around the hotel is pretty dodgy. On the plus side the view from the rooftop bar is great however the pool is very small and the drinks expensive.
