Best Western Ilisia Hotel,Athens
  • 4

Central location in Athens, within walking distance to many attractions. Close to public transportation. One for the few hotels that provides free parking! Courteous and very helpful staff. Breakfast was limited and quality needs improvement.

    « Disappointing »

Reserved the hotel through an airline website. Hotel was classed as a 4 star hotel but the standard was more a 3½ star. Hotel was disappointing and not as expected. Stayed in a standard room; the size was small, soap/shampoo are in dispensers, very limited channels on the tv, deposit payable for the safe which needs to be locked by a key (I felt locking my valuables in my suitcase was safer). There was no bottled water in the room, and no tea/coffee facilities although on the booking website these amenities were shown. The bathroom was very dark, the shower leaked, in the morning I found small cockroaches in the bathroom. Complained and was moved to another room which was a little better and bathroom cleaner and renovated. The curtains in the room are in need of a wash and when I moved them one morning to get some light into the room, lo and behold! the bedhead was filthy. Breakfast was very basic. The staff at the reception desk could speak English and they were courteous and helpful. There is a coffee shop, a nice decent restaurant just outside the hotel, and a convenient store a few yards away. It will take about 15-20 minutes walk to get to the Syntagma Square and some other attractions. Taxis can be easily got from the road outside the hotel and there are plenty of them.

« cockroach experience in my room »

Terrible to see small animals running on the rooms floor. Talking with other colleagues they had same experience in their room. What can I say more ? People very gentle Starbucks and a night club side by side with the hotel

    « A very pleasant experience »

Room:twin beds. Clean, big enough, excellent natural light ,airing and airconditio. Good breakfast, good waiters,a pleasure. Kind, helpful chamber girls. Computer service available all day long.Staff at Reception very nice,helpful,polite.Veru\\\\y good value for money.

« Really poor place! Only one bottle opener for the whole place! Staff is outstanding trying and doing their best possible »

Hotel is a two stars EU standard. Place is very clean. Staff outstanding and doing their best. Avoid low floor rooms as it is like being in a cellar! No food available except for breakfast, no sparkling water available.... Really will not come back! But staff is really doing their best possible an I appreciated this! Would you believe that the whole Hotel only has Two bottle openers! tv channels are just middle age. For the same price I had better experiences even during congress time and at the same price!

    « Great Visit »

My wife and I stayed at the Ilisia in Athens in early August. We were very pleased by the room, the charm, the quiet of the rooms, and the staff. In particular, the staff was outstanding and friendly, as good as any in the world we have experienced. The area of town is very charming, and it is across the street from the well known Hilton Athens. The hotel has a quaint little bar that they will open just for you. And, the breakfast was excellent.

    « Dated and Unwelcoming »

We stayed in this hotel after our flight home from Athens was cancelled and we needed somewhere to stay last minute. The hotel was in an unattractive part of Athens, but was close to the metro station which is why we chose it. The room was dated and the bathroom was just awful, with an odd miniature bath with a shower over it which felt almost tomb-like. The hotel was noisy, with doors slamming all night and there was a strip-club adjoining the hotel. The whole place needed a face lift.

« Cigarett smoke and no working wi-fi in the rooms »

We stayed with children in this hotel for two nights. It was apparantly allowed to smoke cigaretts everywhere and the smoke seemed to get in through ventilation / doors. Be prepared to sleep in cigarett smoke and walk through cigarett smoke in the corridors. The wi-fi worked fine in the Reception area, but not at all in our rooms, which is nowadays can be quite an issue...! The AC was not adequate at all even though we put it on full blast (very loud), so it was also very very hot in the rooms.

    « A converted council house »

Not a comfortable hotel. Of course, if you're after the lowest price in the city centre this is surely ideal for you but if you're a business traveller or are looking to actually stay in the room in a pleasurable way then this is not your hotel. First of all it's not a hotel. It's an old 1960's cram'em and ram'em type build. THe bathrooms are smaller than most wardrobes and dont have windows. The showers are ideally sized for small pets. The breakfast is abysmal not only in variety but mainly in quality as the only thing that is fresh is ... nothing. The beds are good enough to sleep on but that's just about it. Again, if you're after low price and great location then this is your hotel. Any expectation above that and stay away.

    « Good central location »

Good location and very service minded personnel. Good price. Small rooms, with OK beds. OK breakfast bufffet, with eggs, bacon and sausages in addition to the other normal things. Bad AC, I couldn't get it even cool with full fan and 10* degrees setting for hours. Free WiFi, but really bad and useless.

« Best Western llisia Hotel »

Located close to the Metro line so 5 minute walk to the station, close to the War and Byzentine Museums, Goody's restaurant next door. Breakfast was very good in selection and quality. Staff very helpful. Quiet location.

« Nice and well located »

True gold is a parking close to the center of Athens where you can go by foot or metro (2 stations). I recomend walking and enjoying the streets of Athens. More then friendly staff. Clean. Will come back here next time I come to Athens

« Booked 2 interleading rooms, just what we needed »

Positives Clean, comfortable 5 mins walk from X95 bus stop 15 mins walk from Syntagma square Good breakfast Good wifi Interleading rooms work well, shared entrance hall, so can lock outer doors to both rooms, or lock rooms individually Negatives Air-con didn't work very well, very hot at night

« Decent hotel at a good location »

I stayed in this hotel in February 2015 on a business visit. Generally the hotel was decent. The room was small and it wasn't sound proof. The breakfast was good and the hotel location was excellent for my purpose. The laundry service was overpriced. Generally, it was an acceptable stay.

« Could have been better »

The location was good, close to transport and with many choices to eat nearby. The room was average, the fridge not working and had to be looked at. Didn't keep very cold when fixed. No bar or items which was ok. Staff seemed helpful and obliging but did not offer essential information like, you need to ask about access to the safe in the room and pay deposit for the key. Need to ask for tea coffee making items. Ask for milk. No shampoo or soap provided. Hallway lights on sensor which was slow. Worst aspect was the free wifi in the room was very very poor. Noticed many guests on their devices in the lobby. Air con struggled in the heat. Breakfast adequate but could have had more of a local flavour. The dishwasher could be upgraded judging by the state of the cutlery. Definitely a budget level hotel, but I would not return.

« Close to the center »

This is an average hotel with standard properties. It's clean and the personnel is very kind. Complaining the breakfast because it has no Greek spirit. It could be improved. Location of the hotel is very good. It'just five minutes from the Evangellismus Metro and bus station.

    « Average »

To stay 2 nights is OK. Location is good. My room was to main street and the noise was very high. What to say more... You get acceptable service for your money but next time you will choose another hotel...

« Fantastic place and people »

I loved staying here! The staff are so friendly and helpful and the rooms/hotel are beautiful. With less than a 5 minute walk to a metro stop and a starbucks next door, this hotel is the place to stay!

« Good clean hotel excellent location »

The property although dated is functional. The room was clean. Staff at reception was very friendly and helpful. WIFI only works in ground and 1st fl, it struggled on 3rd so I had to use my 3G. I paid 60 euro p night for single occupancy and would think that is fair for what was available. Handy there was a fridge in the room to keep drinks cold as it weather was warm. Location excellent and felt very safe.

    « thoroughly satisfied »

This hotel is in a great, high-end neighborhood, next door to a Starbucks and many other lively restaurants and cafes. The bed was very comfortable, the room was good-size and clean. There is also an empty fridge. We didn't have a view, but some rooms face the street and have balconies. Breakfast was included in the price and was far better than I expected: bacon and eggs, several kinds of bread, Greek yogurt and olives. I would definitely stay here again.

    « Poor conditions »

Not my choice to stay there for a night, but I had to as accommodation was provided. The room was small, there wasn't a single glass to drink water provided you had your own bottle as the freeze was empty. The TV set reminded my of the 80s. Insulation non-existent. The corridors were dimly lit. I left very early for the airport so I didn't have the chance to taste their breakfast. No way to return there.

« Room qualities are different »

?t is an old hotel, top floor front rooms are nice. Back suits are ok. Breakfast is good. Staff were helpful. You can walk to metro, and even to Syntagma if you are young. Some good restaurants around.

« You get what you pay for »

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights when I participated in a conference at the Hilton Hotel which is just next door. The room was small but the bed was good and there was no disturbing noise from the street. There is free Wi-FI. Even in the spring the room got very hot and the air con was not effective, so during summer it must be unbearable. The breakfast was ok with egg, bacon, bread, jam, cheese etc. The stay was cheap so I think you get what you pay for.

    « Just a city hotel »

Spend just 1 night for my business trip to Athens. It is a budget city hotel. Rooms are clean but i think needs renovation, maybe they have schedule it. Breakfast is fine and WiFi (free) is high speed and excellent (more than 15mbps). Is very close to Hilton hotel and near to subway station.

    « Budget hotel - yes »

Dark, depressing cramped room. As requested, we were shown to a "quiet " room but even with the windows closed the traffic noise was intrusive. Breakfast could not be arranged before 7am !!! No TV channels in English. No restaurant Budget level... definitely Hilton next door looked very inviting!!

    « stay for 2 days »

I visited on 15-17th sep2015. please do not expect big, near city, few good restaurant around it. noisy AC. Free WiFi with good speed 15mbps. for tea and coffee you need to ask for it. I went there, as cheapest available hotel at that time. morning breakfast included in the room rent. From airport x95 bus hilton hotel stop.

    « Could be better »

I had a brief business stay at Best Western Ilisia, for two nights. The hotel is not particularly central, but still has decent connections via the Metro a short walk away to downtown Athens. The website claimed that the hotel and rooms had been refurbished - this was not particularly in evidence in my room, which I found to be quite dated and somewhat depressing upon arrival. However, it did come to grow on me and was comfortable enough. The wifi was free (always a bonus), but business users beware it did not always work reliably. Breakfast was also included - pretty mediocre, but adequate for the room rate. The staff were helpful, yet somehow surly - I cannot put my finger on it: I got the information I required, yet didn't feel uplifted as a result. Their best advice was that of the Agora Select restaurant nearby, which I thoroughly enjoyed on both evenings in Athens. I rate 'average' as nothing bad will come of staying here; it's just rather in need of a facelift and enhancement of ambience.

« There are surely better budget hotel options in Athens »

Location and cleanliness are the only good elements I can mention. The single room was very depressing, smelly bathroom and moquette, window opening onto an old apartment building, tasteless decoration. Also breakfast had a variety of food but all of very cheap quality, they could do less but better. Last but not least the reception guys were too busy and indifferent. There are surely better budget hotel options in Athens.

« Substandard - there are better options around »

Good: The staff are friendly. Free WiFi Quiet neighborhood (but not very close to tourist attractions). Bad: Everything else. Old and dated hotel that has seen better times. The rooms are dark and in dire need of a makeover/ renovation (even by Athens standards). Furnishings are old and rundown, shower nozzles that fall down because of broken supports, security latches about to fall off the doors, seriously old bed covers and curtains. The breakfast was terrible - laughable actually. You're better off going downstairs to the Goody's next door. I don't like giving harsh reviews, but I didn't think it was worth the $$ we spent for the night. This place should undergo a major update. I thought the Best Western brand represented a reasonable standard but this was a disappointment.

    « Family vacation »

Nice location, quite place, modest equipment. Good value for the price. Recommend it to tourists who want to walk around Kolonaki and see the change of guards at the Parliament square. Next to a very big Hilton hotel

« Our First Experience With European Hotels »

This hotel was recommended by a friend who lives in Athens. He suggested it was most appealing to Americans - as opposed to the "quaint" smaller boutique hotels I had considered on line. It IS a Best Western Property, but that is the ONLY thing American about the place. We arrived about 2:30, and had to wait 15 mins for a room. Once our room was ready we headed to the elevator. Our first experience with an manual door elevator. We waited and waited before we realized you had to OPEN the door manually just like a room door. The elevator was so small the two of us and our bags almost did not fit. But it was better than dragging luggage up to floor 8. We were given a most modern key card, but it had a label with the room number hand written on it - strange. Upon entering the room NONE of the lights work. It is then we understand this modern key card (as we now know is common in Europe) has to be placed into a holder that turns on the the lights and A/C. What this means is the entire day when you are out of the room there is NO A/C and you return to a HOT room. The room was quite small - smaller than our children's bedroom. In it were two narrow beds - THEIR definition of a "double" - another European thing. The attached balcony was WONDERFUL!!! But it lacked ANY furniture. We quickly adapted by moving the two miss-matched chairs out, and a trash can for a small table. We got to see the most gorgeous sunset above some most ugly buildings. Anything below our floor (and we were the top) would have only looked at other nasty buildings. It was quite, and clean!!! The complimentary breakfast was "OK". Not great, not bad. Good choices. And included. The hotel is quite close to the train that zips you to the Acropolis museum and sites. It is also very walkable to the funicular, and overpriced restaurant. Overall an OK/fair place to stay. We felt it overpriced for the quality, location, and amenities.

    « Nice hotel »

Very nice place to be. Hotel is clean nice, and receptionists are welcoming and nice people. Hotel is good, and breakfast is included (small basic breakfast with fresh croissants, cold cuts, jam,etc.. quite ok) My room didn't have good view but others maybe had better one. Nice hotel. Some things have to be little better like door knobs, and definitely larger TV, this one as small and didn't have much working channels on.

« Good enough for sleep »

Moderate overall but staying in Athens never means staying in so it was good enough for sleeping, not any real problems here. The breakfast was ok, dont expect anything fancy, and the location was ok. 1 to 2 metro stations to the center was ok for me.

    « Good quality price »

spent 3 nights in september. Good service. Breakfirst is ok but nothing special (neither high quality nor worse quality). Nice room but the halogen lamp wasn't repaired (even if I've asked for this two times. Wall paint in the bathroom pells off. But the service is ok.

« Practical one night stay »

This hotel was fairly close to centre, economical and has free car parking. Breakfast was basic, but could so easily improve appearance and ambience at little cost. This i believe would greatly improve opinion of overall stay.

    « Nice for a short stay »

Nice small family hotel - perfect for a short stay. Very close to the main places in Athens and very nice/busy area. Staff very friendly open to help and give any instructions you may need. Although the hotel offers a parking we never used it as we parked on the road and very safe and fine. Breakfast very good. Great stay overall.
