"Great and nicely quaint"

Great location, once you have found your way around the roadworks! Angers has a lovely old town centre, but one of the best meals we had was in this hotel's restaurant. Signs of age in the decoration and some of the furnishings, while still very elegant and cleanly maintained. Excellent breakfasts.

"Nice place needs some attention"

The main entrance is really nice with marble stairs,( did not see any handicap assistance ) at any rate, dest staff very nice and helpful. Room was nice with high ceilings, kind of had fun with the main hallways in that they are dark red with lots of gold trim. ( Could only describe as one would call the French W H. Elevator rises between the stairs and really interesting. This is an old building. Carpet on the stairs badly worn so they need to be replaced. First bathroom I have seen in any France hotel that included the toilet in the same room, no big deal as this is common in the states. We did get a bit unlucky in that the cleaning staff choose to go on strike while we were there so the management was changing and cleaning rooms. No big deal. The first full day, we had walked quite a bit, so chose to eat lunch in the hotel dining room, SO good we made reservations for dinner as well. Really a nice place and the staff here was exceptional. Would stay here again on a visit to Angers.

Perfect hotel to explore the lovely old town of Angers. Secondary glazing gives you ideal, quiet sleeping accommodation. Angers is a delightful old town full of enticing pedestrianised walking. Excellent restaurants everywhere. The Best Western is a perfect central base.

"Excellent 1 night stay"

28/08/2018

We only had one night here in a Superior King bed room. We had room #126 which looked out on to an interior courtyard/other building. There was plenty of light. Bed and pillows were a bit hard for my liking but I'm getting used to this in France! Room was a good size, as per the description and we had a shower over the bath which was fine. Breakfast was included in our rate and it was very nice, including scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages as well as the normal French selections. There was a bar but it lacked a bit of atmosphere and also a restaurant which looked nice and was busy although we didn't eat in. Parking was an extra €12 in a secure car park about 100m from the hotel. Definitely reserve a space as places are limited. When you arrive at the hotel, you can't park out the front on the Main Street entrance as there is a bus and bike lane. You go a little further and do a series of 3 right hand turns around a bus parking zone and can park on a zebra crossing on Place Lorraine while you check in and unload luggage. Then you can get instructions on where to find the car park which is back down the side street. It's actually quite easy even though it sounds complicated! Walk across the street to the old town and it's an easy walk to the historic sites and lots of restaurants etc. We interacted with 3 different reception staff and the all spoke excellent English and were very helpful. Would definitely stay again.

"Delightful place to stay and dine"

Well placed to enable the traveller to Enjoy access on foot to the city centre. In yesteryear it will have provided for the well to do carriage traveller and the coaches and horses. Today it meets the needs of the modern traveller with nicely proportioned rooms finely furnished and is built in the style of the grand days of yore. Without exception during our weekend stay we found the staff polite efficient and helpful. For those seeking a light less expensive breakfast the Café opposite opens at 8 am and is a cheaper alternative. We dined there and the food was excellent and competitively priced. It has a magnificent Art Deco salon for meetings etc which is well worth seeing

"Graceful, quiet and comfortable hotel..."

We stayed a week here. Comfortable and stylish rooms, smiley staff who seem very engaged. Central parking; once you understand where it is, it is only a few steps away.Angers is a beautiful city, with many monuments and overflowing with good restaurants. A great stay.

"Sadly only 3"

29/05/2018

It started so well. I booked early and got a good price, and then when details had to be changed the hotel was understanding and flexible. Sadly the stay failed to live up to what I'd expect from a 4 star hotel. We arrived at 12.30pm. Our room wasn't ready which was reasonable but surprising. We could have checked in though immediately if we upgraded and paid more per night. We declined. The hotel is in a lovely old building When we got to our room a ‘charm' we found it quite basic. Yes we had a view of the nearby park and a kettle and fridge but the room was uninspiring although the bed was comfortable and we slept well. The bathroom was fine with plenty of hot water. Breakfast is 15 Euro and that too lacked inspiration. No local or home made products, supermarket yoghurts and strange scrambled eggs. Overall there was nothing specific to complain about but for a hotel with an expensive published price it was all very ordinary Staff were mostly friendly although when we checked out there was a quibble about the bill. Even though I had an itemised e mail, I was told the price for one of our nights had gone up. We stuck to our guns and were told the hotel would e mail us to clarify. Ten years ago I might have been content with what we received but times have changed. I wish Hotel Anjou well and hope that it can change to keep up. Sadly I feel at the moment it has lost its edge.

Nice hotel. Great location Good secure parking Clean room great bed lots of hot water but no curtains to block out the 5am sun and only one bottle of water for two people. Very disappointed in the £30 breakfast for two people. Overall an ok stay but will try another hotel on our return journey home

"Comfortable but not top quality"

24/10/2017

We stayed here for three nights before moving on to St Malo. We wanted to see Angers and picked the Hotel d'Anjou because of its central location, but we could have chosen better. The hotel is traditionally French, quaint even, complete with rickety lift (max 4 people) to reach the upper floors, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was ok (apart from the drinks machine - the water is not hot enough for tea) but there were downsides. The hotel fronts onto a bus lane so there is no parking outside to unload, although the taxi rank nearby can be used for this purpose. The underground parking garage is about 100 metres away in a side street, which wasn't a problem. The staff were friendly and helpful but the restaurant was, to put it mildly, poor and overpriced. Fortunately, there are plenty of other options nearby and we used them after the first night. Angers is a typical University town and worth seeing - the Chateau is rather impressive - but we won't stay in the Hotel d'Anjou again.

"Une Budget Hotel dans les mures d'une palace"

15/10/2017

The hotel is right in the center of Angers, but when you arrive there is no place to unload the suitcases. They have some parkings but I could not get one and had to park on the street several blocks away. Entering a very beautiful entrance you drag your suit case up a few marble stairs and find yourself in front of an empty counter. After a while a very friendly young lady appears to check you in. You get out of the elevator and find yourself on a floor worthy five stars. However the rooms are very tiny and you have trouble opening your suit-case. A nice breakfast is served in the bar, but again there were not enough tables for all the guests. A budget hotel in the building of a five star establishment.

Spent two nights at this hotel for business / leisure purposes. Sincerely was quite offended with the conference space given as the group attending was crammed under a stariways. Coffee was served upstairs! Breakfast was continental and no warm items available. Shower soap was finished at the begining of my stay and remained so.

"Lovely discovery"

13/09/2017

Booked in for one night at the end of August, Receptionist was incredibly friendly and helpful and the reception area was small but beautiful. She asked us if we wanted an upgrade as we had booked through booking.com for an incredibly good price but it was for a twin room. Upgrade would give us larger space, double bed and a quieter room, for €20 extra we said yes. The room was very large for a city hotel and beautifully decorated, view was uninspiring as it was looking out on to other buildings but didn't bother us. Reception staff - we encountered three different people during our stay were very professional, accommodating, informative and friendly. Breakfast was gorgeous - other reviewers seemed slightly underwhelmed - but we thought it was one of the best breakfasts we have had. Lovely attentive unassuming staff, loads of choices from scrummy chipolata style sausages, creamy scrambled eggs, smoked rashers, lots of fruit, good selection of cold meats and cheeses, gorgeous yoghurts, huge array of breads and various pastries - much more than you are normally offered - and all for €15. If in the area again will definitely be back. Fabulous stay.

"A nice old fashioned hotel with attentive staff and period flavour"

04/09/2017

A traditional city centre hotel in the heart of Angers and close to the attractions - a good place for a night or longer - wished I could have stayed to explore. Secure parking was appreciated, along with efficient wifi. All in all, a fine choice.

Very friendly staff and good location. The room had what it needed and we were definitely satisfied. We had dinner in the brasserie which was nice. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed this day, would have loved to try this.

From the friendly, efficient reception to the quirky common areas to the compact but very comfortable rooms it is very hard to fault this town centre hotel. Reasonable meal in the bistro too. The city seema lovely too, even though we only had a couple of hours to have a look round. We'll definitively stop off here on the way south/ back home again.

"Gorgeous old property with an eager to please staff"

The BW Hotel d'Anjou sits in the very heart of the city of Angers, on Boulevard Foch. It exudes old-world elegance and charm and yet provides modern-day amenities such as a/c. Breakfast, served in an elegant dining room, offers a multitude of choices buffet-style and there are always attendants to help the guests out. Highly recommended.

Comfortable and clean rooms, furnished attractively. Breakfast was okay but scrambled egg was a bit weird. Lovely staff and friendly chamber maid. Situated near a lovely park with a nice cafe. Good value for money.

"Nice, but small rooms"

4
20/07/2017

Nice French hotel, with patios and great view on the fountain. Clean rooms, and friendly staff. Rooms are small even if in the French average. However the parking is tiny, even by French standards, and parking with a family car is quite challenging. Note that the parking is not connected to the hotel.

Spent a night here on a business trip. Perfect location. Right in the center of town. Restaurant s and bars all around. Room was clean, bed comfortable and shower was good. I was lucky enough to stay when there was a music festival in town. It was nice and vibrant everywhere. Still had a good night's sleep

"nice hotel, lousy wifi"

19/06/2017

you can't operate two devices at the same time in this hotel. Not convenient at all ! Rooms are a little bit outdated. Parkingplaces ate too far from the hotel. Oldfashioned rooms and bathrooms. Only french channels on tv.

bwanjou, Directeur général at Best Western Hotel D'Anjou, responded to this review
Dear Guest, We took your comment and were surprised that you did not contact the front desk regarding the wifi that works very well. We are pleased to be able to offer our guests a private parking in the city center within 100 meters of the entrance and thus the foreign television station BBCword. We are sorry that you have not been sensitive to the old style and character of our hotel. Respectfully, N. BUSSON

Very nice hotel. Beautiful decor. Excellent location, right in downtown of Angers. Personal is very nice and helpful. Good French breakfast. Don't use their cafe in the evening, not the best choice, overpriced.

"Belle Epoque Glamour"

06/05/2017

Beautiful decor...the red doors and striped wallpaper in the hall seemed out of another time. And our room was large and comfortable. I'm not a fan of roll-up blinds, but since our room faced another, using them was necessary. The location was convenient, and I would stay there again if I were in Angers. Two things keep me from giving this hotel a higher rating: 1) There's no lobby. The semi-circular front desk opens onto stairs and the front entrance. If more than one person is trying to check in or has a question, it's crowded and awkward. Staff actually work in an area behind the check-in desk, so I often wasn't sure anyone was available. Also, the one small elevator, while charmingly antique, is totally inadequate when a group checks in with luggage, as happened on our arrival. 2) Our first night, we'd had a long drive and it was cold and rainy in Angers. We decided to eat at the cafe, based in part on the menu listed on the blackboard when we arrived in the afternoon. We were seated, ordered wine, and then ordered the food, only to be told that it was the lunch menu. Basically the cafe menu in the evening is very limited and, for what was available, very over priced. I'd avoid it.

"One of a Kind"

03/05/2017

We enjoy older properties that have retained their style and are well maintained. Clearly, they can't offer all the modern conveniences, but make up for that in their character and distinctiveness. The staff here are a major asset as they demonstrate a high level of professionalism, congeniality and intelligence. The public rooms are real gems of architecture and design-some lovely art deco touches. The hallways and rooms show their age and are a bit quirky (rather long and narrow corridors), but are overall endearing. That might or might not compensate for what might be a precarious exit in case of fire or other emergency. For an older hotel, our bathroom, bedroom, lighting and double glazed windows all reflect a commitment to maintain a four star standard. After a week of weak coffee in other hotels, I was happy to see their Krea Coffee Machine. we have had experience with it at our regular hotel in Nice, and indeed it makes fine coffee. Breakfast was somewhat standard, but quite acceptable. A critical feature for our stay was a reliable garage-and the hotel delivers in that category, although it would be less so in inclement weather as the garage is half a block away. It would be helpful if specific directions were provided on the hotel website-as the street is one way towards the hotel, and one has to drive around four blocks to arrive back at the garage. One can stop briefly near the front to unload. The garage spaces are of decent size, but in order to enter the garage you have to go through two coded automatic doors-a minor inconvenience. More critical, there are two sharp right angle turns that could be a challenge with some vehicles. All in all, the hotel has a desirable central location and offers fair value. Several tour groups were here during our stay, but they were relatively small and well behaved-and since we were having later breakfasts, didn't interfere with our solo travel. We would be pleased to recommend this property to our friends and TA readers.

this hotel is always my home when I visit the Loire region. I know it for more than 30 years and I must say, since it became a Best Western the glamour get a little more less!!! the only problem is the parking, with a big car it is difficilt to park in the inside parking place. in old times there was a big wooden porte, that was opened to park in the garden!!

No aircon. The street noise was evident even after closing double windows. Room was small. A flight of steps to get from street level to reception But the reception staff service was very good. The hotel restaurant food was bad.

Dear guests, We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. We wish to inform you that the whole hotel is air-conditioned. The rooms have double windows to reduce noise nuisance. 20/04/2017

We loved this hotel. In the middle of Angers opposite the town hall. Our room was sizeable and beautifully decorated and furnished. Breakfast was served in the lounge/bistro area and was very good. The staff we met in reception and dining room were charming and most helpful. We managed to find some street parking near by and that was free until 9.00 in the morning. Ate in a super restaurant ( can't remember the name) just along the street. Lovely square outside but we heard no noise from there during the night. All in all, a lovely hotel, one we would return to .

Warm welcome from Benjamin , so helpful and very polite. Stunning room so clean and spacious. Garage is a bit of a walk from the Hotel, if you can leave luggage behind very advisable. Hotel is in a good spot for walking into the old town for restaurants, shops and bars. Breakfast is very good . Usual tea and coffee in the room, not enough milk though, did ask for more.

14/03/2017

Stayed here for a couple of nights to get my son settled in school. Good location, close to the train station and lots of shops and restaurants. Room was small but very comfortable. Staff at the front desk were extremely helpful with directions and information about the area. Breakfast was good, however, we were charged for two days of breakfast and only had one. Didn't realize until a couple of weeks later when I returned home, so just double check on check out. Would recommend this hotel though.

"Nice and clean"

24/02/2017

Very well located hotel. Walking distance both from train station and city center with shopping and restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast lady was so sweet and helpful. My room was clean and very nice but small. Nice sized bathroom and again very clean. A bottle of water and a tea/coffee tray was available in the room checking in. BUT the bed..... so so hard! I had a hard time getting to sleep and when I woke I was sore all over. How ever, everyone has different requirements when it comes to a bed and I am sure it is a great bed for someone else, but not for me. Over all a great stay!

Dear Kristina, Thank you for writing a review on tripadvisor.com. We do appreciate you took the time to write it and so pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable stay in our Hotel. Great central location. Very quaint authentic French building. Beautiful building. Very small rooms and the elevator is a little scary. Breakfast is good but pricey. Go and see the Chateaux while you are here and the David D'Angers gallery. Well worth the visit. Very walkable city. Visit the Boulangeries and Patteseries. The food is amazing

13/11/2016

I stayed here for one night before heading off to a work retreat and found the hotel to be suitable. It is only a short 10 minute walk from the train station and is located on the main street located next to many bars and restaurants. My room was about the size I expected for Europe except the door didn't open fully into the room and luggage had to be lifted over the bed to enter. The furnishings were all modern and clean. I also appreciated a full tub in the bathroom as out of my 4 hotel rooms in one week in France this was the only one that had this feature. The only downside was the free wi-fi wasn't working during my stay and they only answer was "that happens sometimes and we have to wait for the guy to fix it". Breakfast was included and OK considering the price of the hotel but it wasn't the best, but it was sufficient. My colleagues and I noted that the hotel had a haunted vibe to it and we felt the hallways were very creepy as depicted in the attached photo. However, no ghosts were spotted!

"Central, perfect reception staff and up graded room"

03/11/2016

We stayed twice recently, on the way to and from family. Each time we were upgraded to a better room than we had booked We stayed earlier in the Spring so we knew they had a small nearby carpark. I went to the reception desk and the lady immediately said, why not park your car and complete the booking in a few minutes time. So refreshing to have such helpful and thoughtful staff. Each way we had very comfortable rooms, even the room at the rear without a street view was still spacious and not unpleasant view over the rear of the hotel My one comment would be that for a big hotel it would be nice to have one international channel for news in English (I can catch up with usual television returning home, but world news is basic now) Breakfast downstairs was excellent, you have to look around to find cutlery etc, but good choice of small pain au cholate and croissants, fresh juice, bread, cheese, ham yogurts etc

"Good central hotel to spend a stopover to visit Angers"

4
02/11/2016

A hotel within easy access of the centre ville. It has its own car park albeit not within the bulding but secure at €15 a night – short walking distance away. The rooms are comfortable and the common areas are traditional and decorated with pleasant antique furniture . There are two restaurants, a bistro and a more formal restaurant both serving excellent French cuisine. The bistro menu was around €70 with wine and two courses. Breakfast is normal hotel fare letting the hotel down slightly from its otherwise high standard. The quirky lift might not suit everyone of a claustrophobic nature as it is narrow and only takes people standing in front of each other not side by side !.

"Perfect location"

4
01/11/2016

The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Angers and perfect for exploring the town on foot. The 4 star feeling is defintly there, the reception is magnificent and the decoration throughout the hotel is very rich and plush. Our room was also worthy of its 4 stars, the bed was super comfortable and the bath was much appreciated. We didnt have any noise problems from outside or from inside although you can hear people walking about in the room above. The service was good throughout and breakfast was good although a bit on the expensive side. Generally a very good hotel albeit a bit expensive.

"Fabulous hotel like set for Agatha Christie novel"

24/09/2016

Wonderful location in city centre for this sympathetically modernised old hotel. Our room is lovely. Bed is firm and big. Room is not large but is nicely decorated with a lovely view over a square and fountain. We did not use the restaurants as the city pedestrian areas are on your door step and the cafes are everywhere. Parking is secure, though you would not like to get a Land Rover or a Hummer in there. We found the desk helpful and friendly. Very quick to fulfill requests. We hope to go back.

"Nice in Angers!"

19/09/2016

We stayed in the triple room for six nights.(one king and one single) for our daughter who is studying in Angers for the year. It was hot, and we appreciated the aircon!. The room was a great size for three people. The front desk were always very helpful with our very limited French for taxis and directions, etc. (Built in concierge) The room was very clean, but housekeeping was our only complaint; not always consistent with replacing dirty glasses each day and housekeeping tried to rush us out on check out day. We were told it was 12pm and they kept knocking on the door from10am. (Even entered while someone was in the shower, ;)They have maintained the integrity of the hotel, which is lovely to see for a Best Western. It's was a bonus to have the elevator for all the luggage. Great for people with accessible needs. The location is perfect with the tram across the street and was a 10 minute taxi from the train station. Good restaurants within walking distance. I would defintely recommend this hotel and Angers! Beautiful city!

"Excellent in an upgraded room"

5
19/09/2016

If you get upgraded as we did, this would be 5*. Rooms a little tired, but ours was large with comfortable King size firm bed, air conditioning, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities. Friendly and very helpful English speaking reception. Secure bike parking. Bistro/bar expensive as you would expect, but good food. Main Restaurant was closed when we stayed. Ideal location. Very quiet rooms face a courtyard with no street noise whatsoever.)

"Central part of town"

4
18/09/2016

A stylish hotel with comfortable rooms and modern furnishings. Front desk was helpful but could have been friendlier. Located on the main road with a lovely park just across from it. Good selection of bars and cafes close by. Stayed 1 night and had dinner in the bistro and would have liked better English descriptions on the menu as what we were served was nothing like what we thought we ordered and not enjoyable.

"Nice room"

4
15/09/2016

The room was very comfortable ( we had a Prestige room ) and quite big for French standards. The windows soundproof system was excellent ( there were two windows ) so you hear no street noise. The A/C worked very well too. It is near restaurants and city center. The building is pretty inside and the elevator is supposed to be the oldest in Angers. We had a problem when checking in ( the room was partially made ) but the management and reception were efficient at solving the mistake.

"D'Anjou was Dang Good"

4
15/09/2016

The Hotel d'Anjou is a bit (just a very slight bit) off the beaten track in Angers. It's next to a magnificent park. And it is within walking distance (15 to 20 minutes) of the famous tapestry. Our room was spacious and well appointed. Although it is on a busy thoroughfare our room was still quiet. There might be a more luxurious hotel in Angers but I doubt there's a better value when overall quality is considered.

"Delightful"

15/09/2016

Stylish art nouveau hotel in centre of town. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfy rooms. Nice furnishings. Room service and breakfast both delicious. Parking available. I would come back! No more need be said.

"Good City Hotel"

16/08/2016

Having spent three nights at the Hotel d'Anjou, I can thoroughly recommend it. It does slightly punch above it's weight i.e. it's not really as 'grand' as it might aspire to - but it's tremendous on a number of other levels. The rooms are comfortable with good air-con (it was very hot in mid-August) - a fine wifi connection too. The breakfasts offered a wide choice both hot and cold and were tasty, with a very personable lady to assist. The hotel also has a good restaurant and, while not cheap, it provided a really well presented and delicious supper. For those in cars, there is no parking on site but there is a secure garage (10€ per day) for hotel customers very close by. Just park up by the hotel, drop off your bags and you will be directed to the garage. All in all, a great base for visitors to this part of France.

"A marvelous marble reception area"

16/08/2016

A very pleasant hotel, close to the castle, shops and castle of Angers. The reception area, resplendent in glass, mirrors and marble provide a quite different hotel entrance. Excellent English was spoken (my broken French was only just understood!) and a very helpful concierge.

Stayed on our way to SW France. Very pleasant, helpful staff. Room lovely with a comfy bed and very spacious. Despite being on the main road didn't hear any traffic. We didn't eat here. We really liked Anjou, some beautiful old bits. Would definitely stay here again.

After some of the other hotels we stayed in on our French tour this was a "Jewel" Lovely bedrooms with quiet aircon and in a beautiful baroque style, with a lovely large bathroom and plenty of drink and eats. central for everything and with helpful staff, especially the reception lad that walked the 100 yards to show us into the car park. We didn't eat in the hotel ,but would not hesitate to go again

"Lovely hotel in central location"

26/07/2016

We stayed at Hotel D'anjou for just one night. Certainly not your normal Best Western hotel but nevertheless quite pleasant if not a little quirky. The building is 19th century and the inside areas are full of character. Interestingly, the duty manager proudly told us that the elevator was the oldest in Angers but was regularly maintained - I think that was meant to reassure us! The hotel is situated in a great location for access to the city centre and it has a private underground car parking only 100m down the road. Our room was very nice and clean with a good view over the square. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and overall I think we made a good choice of hotel. We had a pleasant night's stay and certainly next time we are in Angers this will be the hotel for us.

"Good hotel in city center"

14/07/2016

I chose this hotel because it's in the center of Angers and it has a closed garage . I took the 10 euro upgrade for a larger room Nice bathroom, with bath, but without bathplug(?) , but the conciërge kindly found one for me. Airco didn't work , but window could open. I didn't take breakfast, I usually have a croissant and coffee. So you don't want to spend € 14. Parking was free of charge for motorbike !!!

Well situated hotel with car parking, book ahead if possible. Helpful reception but there needs to be more staff on, if they are on the phone you can wait for ages.excellent breakfast, with charming helpful staff. We had the charme bedroom , fairly quiet except for early morning plumbing, but it's often like that in hotels.lack of toiletries is something to be aware of in a 4* hotel.....

We stopped for a night as we were driving to the Loire Valley. Has some charm as an old hotel and loved the old fashioned elevator. Rooms are modern and adequate. Hotel service is very good. Continental breakfast included. Parking in nearby garage.

Classically comfortable grand hotel. Centrally located. Perhaps slightly faded. Private or on street parking available. Great WIFI. Fine breakfast. Lovely staff. Located close to the tram lines but no noticeable sound. Would definitely recommend it.

"Good Angers centre hotel - very convenient"

4
11/05/2016

Good quality city centre hotel - convenient for tourist sites and transport links. Some of the best quadruple (!)glazing we have ever seen in a hotel room - next to a bus station but absolutely and blissfully quiet! Recommended. Note: lifts from car park to hotel not working necessitating a long walk around the streets with luggage to hotel - guess this will be fixed soon.

The hotel is near the old city.It is renovated and it is in very good condition. The materials for the renovation are not expensive but it is not obvious. The rooms are clean and they have good view. The breakfast has high quality and a lot of different kinds of food. The stuff is very polite and helpful.

01/05/2016

I chose this hotel as it took dogs, was central and was a good stopping point on the way home but was not really expecting much. Was very pleasantly surprised though - from the very friendly and helpful reception to a really beautifully done out hotel - felt clean and fresh whilst respecting the history. Lovely fresh quiet room with gorgeous raised bathroom. Did not feel like a chain hotel at all. Great location. Would def stay again.

24/03/2016

Wonderful hotel - beautiful decor, super location and great value. Wouldn't of stayed anywhere else and recommended it to other traveling family members coming later. Superb!! Room comes with wonderfull terry cloth bath robes and matching slippers, great restaurant on premises. Ended every day with Irish coffees served at the intimate little bar area.

"Not as good as it thinks it is!"

22/03/2016

Restaurant staff a little pretentious to say the least, my duck was served raw and inedible, the only apology was to not charge me for the privilege. The car parking a long way from hotel and loading and unloading luggage is difficult. Comfortable bedroom and bathroom

"Pleasant stay"

29/02/2016

We spent a night here on a family visit. The rooms were well maintained and old style which made for a pleasant combination. The Blvd Foch used to be a 1970's urban thoroughfare but has been positively transformed with the arrival of the tram which passes in front of the hotel. The staff were polite and formal and I much appreciatef this. Apparently, the restaurant has a high reputation locally and so you need to book in advance to eat there. Fortunately, a 10 minute walk took us into old Angers and a large selection of places to eat dinner (I recommend la Cantine). The rooms are well sound proofed against the road but not so well protected from noisy guests who have lost their keys. This place has a lot of style and old world charm and has largely escaped its Best Western sterilization. Free Wifi by the way. Can recommend.

We stayed for one night in this hotel and we were very nicely impressed. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was very well equipped and clean, the bathroom very classy with all that one could need for his comfort. The hotel is central, you can go by foot to the city's attractions, it has a parking for those who travel by car, a nice restaurant where you can have a variety of dishes and the decorations remind you of the elegant hotels of La Belle Epoque. We simply adored it and will return for sure, if ever in Angers!

Hotel is centrally located in Angers and there is covered parking next to the Hotel which is essential if you are visiting by car. Helpful staff. Rooms are not large but was comfortable. Lovely restaurant served excellent food. Hotel was reasonably priced and whilst the restaurant was not cheap, it was quality and you get what you pay for.

This is a beautiful hotel with a friendly prompt multilingual staff. They loaned us an adapter for charging our mobile devices and brought a fan go the room on request. We enjoy an oversized bathtub in the room. Prices are reasonable. In the dining room be sure to try the Cointreau souffle glace. Also try the little croissants at the breakfast buffet. I hope to stay here again.

One simply can not understand how this hotels has four stars, barely two stars would do it. You arrive and need to carry your cases up steps to receptionno one to help. Had booked two single rooms for two nights, the receptionist tries her best for us to commit to a third night for a discount, we declines saying we did not know if we would stay longer thank planed, her insistence was unpleasant. No one shows you to your rooms, the lift is filthy and very beat up due to guests needing to come on their own with their luggage and it's not being vacuumed. The rooms are tired, carpets with their cording showing and coming apart (I had to pull two carpet cords in order not to trip on them), whenever there seems to be a chip or dent in the wall or paint it just is summarily painted over with paint brushes that leave their bricels in the paint, everything is basically dingy with very low lighting which does not help. In one of the rooms the heating control was over two meters high, wonder what the short do? No insulation, hearing next door televisions in both rooms. In one room there were two doors, one that opens in, bumping into closet doors (that show signs of it) if they are open and one opening out. I once opened the door and missed by a few centimeters a maid coming down the hall. The hotel has no lobby, breakfast is served in what is I believe some sort of cheap bar with tables one on top of another, no space. We did not have it but were charged anyway for both days. We went to the restaurant the first night, rather pretentious despite waiters being in their shirt sleeves (both long and short) and very, very slow service but absolutely delicious. We could not believe we were in the same place, one of the best restaurants we have been to. It was such a culinary experience that we decides to go back the next night. Next night ordered exactly the same, inedible. This place is the twilight zone. Hotel inexpensive but very, very poor. Restaurant priced well the first night, the same the next but would have been better across the road at McDonald's (without exageration). Truly to be avoided.

"Good value and location plus a fabulous restaurant"

19/10/2015

We stayed for one night having travelled from Paris by TGV (took just one and a half hours). The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the station and the main attractions of Angers and easy to find. The building itself is quite old and we found it very attractive including some of the interior décor which was pleasing, We thought the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. A highlight though was the restaurant - La Salamandre - where we had dinner. It was a gourmet experience in a wonderful setting. Make sure you reserve a table in advance because it is quite small and clearly used by non-residents.

"Great views and a large, comfortable room in a restored hotel"

17/10/2015

We stayed here two night on a bicycle tour of the Loire. The hotel has a locked area in the garage for bicycles. We had a terrific view of the city square, fountain and gardens. The room was large, very quiet, and the bed was typical Best Western, very comfortable. The interior has been restored to a 19th century style, stained glass and plush, and has been beautifully done. The elevator is a single person wide, surrounded by a circular staircase, very quaint. Our breakfast was included and was quite good, with a good selection. Excellent experience!

"Cheap and a great location"

06/10/2015

Given what we paid for the 3 nights, we were happy to stay here and also it's a great location from the centre of town. The staff were really helpful and communication leading up to our stay was very good. The hotel has good secure underground parking which is what really attracted us to it. Although this parking is offsite, it really is only a 2 minute walk around the corner. The hotel itself is rather quirky looking in a nice way with an old characteristic lift, creaky floor boards and hallways that have come straight from an Alfred Hitchcock movie. The room was a good size and very airy with 2 large windows flooding it with natural light. Although the room was clean, it is certainly starting to show its age with pealing wallpaper and paint chipped skirting coming away from the walls which one would not expect from a 4 star hotel.

"Luxurious Room with view of the city!"

04/10/2015

We stayed in room 120. It was fantastic! A large cornor room with windows that had 2 different views of the city. Easy walking distances to visitor attractions, shopping and restaurants. The hotel also has garage parking for a fee, close by and very safe. They also have a nice breakfast buffet. The hotel staff is excellent, helpful, friendly and all speak English. They were quick to help us with maps and distances to where we wanted to go.

"Centre City excellence"

28/09/2015

We really enjoyed our four days here. The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of the main attractions - Chateau, tourist information, cathedral, shops, trams, old quarter etc. Our first floor (a tiny lift) room at the back was quiet and although small was excellently furnished with a fully equipped bathroom - hair-drier, shaving points and mirror etc - lots of hot water for shower and bath. The dining room is quietly elegant, service first class, with a sophisticated style. The menu although limited is extended by the 'Chef's Suggestion' for each course - well worth asking about. The breakfast is an 'everything' meal - not much petit about this dejeuner. The only drawback here is the car park which is not connected to the hotel but is in the next street - a one way street going the 'wrong way' from the hotel. So it's a bit of a business to get there - and don't forget to get the numerical access code to open the garage door. Well recommended.

"Great Location, Clean Rooms"

16/09/2015

The last night of our cycling tour brought us to Angers. This hotel, conveniently located just a couple of blocks from the train station, is also very close to lots of restaurants, shops and about a 15-20 minute walk from the Chateau d' Angers (a medieval fortress). We arrived in the middle of the day, to find a team of friendly and smiling faces at the reception desk. They quickly gave us a pass code and guided us to the parking garage, where we could lock our bikes for the final time. After an extremely quick check-in we took the elevator to our floor and off to our room. The hallways are decorated with rich black and red tones, yes they hallways are dark colored, but adds to the charm of the hotel. Upon entry, our luggage had been delivered. The room was of good size, as it had a king-sized bed, all of our luggage and a large bathroom. We had two large windows overlooking a square and just on the other side, a fountain. Everything was well taken care of, and more importantly, clean. Good air conditioning, in-room safe, all that we needed. We ate dinner at a local restaurant, however we did eat breakfast at the hotel in the morning, it was the traditional European breakfast, sliced meats, French cheeses, breads, fruit, juice and more. It was everything we needed to energize us for the train to Paris. A convenient location, clean rooms and friendly staff, what else could you ask for, when spending only one night?

"American Review - Elegant Beautiful Older Hotel"

5
12/09/2015

Stayed in this hotel one night in Sept 2015 for business. I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel since the name 'Best Western' in America does not inspire grand thoughts. The hotel is small but truly elegant and beautiful. The rooms are decorated with lovely antique furniture, bath rooms with marble etc. The hallways, small lobby, etc are decorated very exquisitely. The restaurants for both breakfast and dinner were very good. Of course a warning for Americans - dinner is 2.5-3 hours so be prepared. A few minor complaints: the shades for the windows were a pain to use. The elevator is extremely tiny and I only rode it once for fear it would break down. Also, once in the room I could not figure out how to call the front desk for a wake up call.

we had a modest room but it was extremely comfortable and well appointed with a nice bathroom and great shower. Beds very good and well decorated,We missed the restaurant as it was full but went to a nearby recommended one which was great. AlI I'd say is the little things of milk for tea coffee were rather small and few in number...

"Happy to help!"

31/08/2015

We stayed two nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were uniformly friendly and helpful. I tried my schoolboy French, which they appreciated, but their English was of a far better standard! They had helpful recommendations for restaurants (and bakers, and patisseries…) and were a mine of information on local attractions Our room was not big, but was clean and comfortable with the only downside being the air conditioning, which was angled to blow icy air down your neck whilst in bed. The hotel has a nice courtyard with chairs and tables to enjoy a relaxing drink. The overall décor of the public areas was traditional and impressive, as befitting a hotel which is a landmark building in the city. The underground parking is excellent – spacious and convenient

26/08/2015

Negatives first. Breakfast is taken in the very small bar, and is buffet, mainly continental style, with addition of a couple of hot choices. If several people are trying to get food at once, it becomes congested. On a personal note, I don't want to eat in a bar, I want a restaurant. Biggest downside for me was the fact that rooms weren't serviced until mid afternoon...by Four on the Sunday. I wanted to have a shower and relax for an hour or so mid afternoon and this was not possible. Not the best cleaning job, either, and small things ,like all of the sachets of coffee were decaf , and I got two shampoos , but no shower gel etc. Now positives. Great location. Very helpful staff at reception, who coped with my failing French, and switched to English easily and professionally when necessary. Room a decent size, but wardrobe was a folding door that was stiff and hard to open. Bathroom adequate with good pressured shower over the bath, and good large sink...but, like so many hotels, lighting there was too dim. Great manually operated blinds which cut out all the light, making sleeping easy ( except for the annoying light on the air con control shining directly across from the bed)! Another plus was a sweet courtyard with chairs and tables, which was nice, as there is no guest lounge to relax in. The building is lovely, with much marble, and elegant touches. Buy your own water, though....one was put in my room for my arrival, but never replenished, and they wanted either 3 or 4 E ( not sure which) for a small bottle from the mini bar in the room. Just a little more thought, and this could be a great hotel instead of a quite good one.

Exceeded our expectations. Lovely hotel near to many Anger attractions. Beautiful spacious rooms with tasteful decor and all modern amenities. Helpful and friendly staff. Lobby and hall decor a bit quirky for my own tastes but still attractive and most importantly, very clean! Well done.

Nice toiletries, soft towels, we had a great bathroom (newly updated) and comfy quiet room with pretty decor. The front desk service was the best we had in France. Would recommend a stay here. The road its on has lots of shops, but its a little bit of a walk to restaurants.

Travelled around France for 2 weeks staying in 8 hotels in total and this was bar far the best. Excellent, vaguely art deco decor in the hotel with a funky lift to the rooms. "Best Western Hotel d'Anjou, Angers"

01/04/2015

The Hotel is well situated but is resting on its ancient laurels. The room although has an exterior door to stop noise (soundproofing) - it didn't. In a morning everytime somebody left we heard them go. At six o'clock this was not good. Infact if the two doors too the room were suspposed to be a fire doors they would neither stop fire or smoke due to the gaps around them. Bath in the room!!!! Upgraded from normal room with this in mind - could not swing a cat in it let alone bath in it. It was a shower in a bath cramped into the corner overall bad design of the bathroom, claustrophobic and bad lighting - very disappointing and not easy to use. The bed although king size was infact two single beds put together and I spent a lot of the night in the crack between the two beds not comfortable. The duvet was to small to fit inside the cover as there was a good excess of 30cm on the side of the bed without duvet Mini bar supposedly included in the price - what or where was is?? A can of juice and bottle of water in the fridge, according to the paperwork in the room these were chargeable????? Didn't eat in the resturant as they seemed overpriced compared to the other resturants in the town. Overall not one of the best Bestwesterns we have stayed in and over the years there have been many. Not sure how this hotel was rated a a 4star?

This hotel offers historical surroundings and beautiful architecture with a courteous and very helpful staff, all at a very reasonable price. We loved the decor of the room and the stained glass throughout. It made our stay in Angers very pleasant. Additionally, having a parking in the hotel in this pedestrian city made our stay carefree.
