This place is an absolute dump it really needs updating. As a business we work in Andover quite a lot and all the workers that have stayed there don't rate it. It is safe to say that as a company we will not stay there again.
Booked the hotel to attend a wedding this coming August. Was really pleased with myself to have have all the transport from Yorkshire and accommodation booked well in advance. However Best Western appear to have other ideas, I received short email yesterday informing me the accommodation has been cancelled. No warning or explanation given. Given the booking is 5 months away, I find it unbelievable they are unable to honour the booking. I've tried to contact the hotel without any success, it would be nice to understand the reason behind this decision, but mainly to identify the supplier of the crystal ball they are using to see this far into the future.
We stayed for 2 nights and were amazed just how quiet it was, even on a Friday night. Did not see any more than 3 tables in use at breakfast and certainly did not hear people leaving early or ay noise during the night. The room was perfectly adequate and although we did not get housekeeping, reception supplied us with anything we needed. Breakfast was very filling and we were very impressed by the full English.
Booked the hotel last July direct with Best Western. Received a very curt email yesterday telling me that my booking for multiple rooms has been cancelled by them. It leaves us trying to find another hotel for 3 nights during a weekend that coincides with a large motor race meeting at nearby Thruxton so everywhere is either booked or mega expensive. The least they could have done was move us to the nearest alternate BW property!
Booked this hotel through Booking.com some time ago as we are attending a wedding in the aea and to day I recieved an email telling me the hotel has cancelled my booking, no reason or apology given. All the other travell arrangements have been made and paid for and now I have to find accomodation at short notice and pay whatever it costs.
Booked 3 months ago via Booking.com, for a family wedding in April. Received an email today telling me the booking has been cancelled, no explanation why. Have used Best Western extensively in USA and can't believe they have let us down like this. Certainly won't use them again anywhere in the world. Appalling service.
I would of gave it 5/5 if the beds weren't so solid. apart from that the hotel was great, breakfast was absolutely amazing especially the cook Anne she can definitely do a good fry up, and then Ryan in the breakfast room was very polite to guests infact very good at his job. would definitely recommend this place but please update the mattress on the beds ASAP
Loved the location and setting of the hotel. Very quiet area. Querky place but enjoyed my stay for 16 days very much. Being on night shifts away working 16 solid again easy to sleep during day time. Reception staff extremely helpful Anne and her son Ryan deserve special praise. Anne done some of the most amazing brekkies going in the land, no exaggeration stay in a lot of hotels with my job but her brekkies where top drawer stuff. Ryan controlled front of house, well mannered, helpful and always respectful and kept the breakfast area clean and full. Both Anne and Ryan big assets to that hotel and defo deserve a pay rise with their dedicated attitude and service to the establishment. Anne, really gonna miss your eggy bread. Amazing stuff that and with the brekki, kept me going on a long job. Thankyou Anne
1st the bad points ... the beds need updating so hard and uncomfortable need memory foam toppers at least ,bathroom ok showers go from hot to luke warm in seconds and showers and bath are very noisy when water is on ,outside noise is also a problem and the last bad thing is banging doors is a daily thing not good for a night shift working... good points breakfast is amazing the cook and restaurant front at house are amazing can't do enough to accommodate you I would only come back if the bad points was rectified
Christmas visit to family used hotel as base for several trips out staff great hotel excellent and will return again been using this hotel for years visited with friends and family many times always had a good experience and its always got better.
Might have been nice 30 years ago. Walls paper thin and a radiator outside room was making a terrible racket, impossible of staff or cleaners not to have noticed the terrible din. It was only due to absolute exhaustion that I goy any sleep. No food available in evening, not even at the bar for some snacks. Not been to a Best Western for over 20 years, used to have a good name.....I wont be going back to find out if it improves.
Clean room, bed was okay. Check in and out super quick! Good parking too. Beds could have been a bit more comfy but wifi was good and worked well! Could do with sorting out the outbuildings as my view from window was of a messy area!
Having stayed, long-term, whilst seeking accommodation nearer my new job; I am giving the Best Western Andover Hotel my thumbs up and - as a matter of contention - I am perfectly happy with the "decor"... There is breakfast I haven't tried because I leave too early and - at weekends - I have to keep to a strict budget, but the kindness and helpfulness of the staff (on 24 hour Reception) always brightens up my leaving and arriving back... The cleaning standards are A.OK with me (and I work in a laboratory so that is appreciated) and the cleaning staff are very thoughtful, indeed (which makes my day, when I get back from work). Very occasional noisy guests are expected almost everywhere, but my beautifully made-up bed and peaceful setting give me a brilliant night's sleep. Thank you, Best Western staff - at Andover.
This is a disaster of a place. It's basically surviving on building contractors. Who openly commented on how dreadful the place is . The staff are trying but it really is tired and if we are honest needs investment or closing . Sorry but it's as bad as it gets !
My husband booked this hotel and I had read the reviews and was apprehensive in staying. We arrived and we was made very welcome by Amir. Went to our room which was a small room but looked ok, I then checked the pillows, they were stained with dirty pillow protective on and then pulled the sheet could not believe how stained the mattress protector was. No need for this as they should all be changed following covid guidance. I went and spoke to Amir and straight away he apologised and moved us into a different room with a very clean bed. The room was lovely, with coffee machine and tea/coffee tray well stocked. Clean bathroom with a big bath and shower. There were a couple of decor problems that need sorting out and wouldnt take long to do in bathroom, flooring coming away., and stains on tiles. But all in all a lovely room. We had a problem and it got sorted straight away. We would stay again.
Toilets at the hotel will not flush, the plumbing system needs a good looking at, a complete nightmare. You have to feel for the poor cleaners that have to put up with someone elses ablution. We wont be going to this hotel again.
For a Best Western hotel we were rather disappointed. The hotel needs a complete makeover both inside and out. The furniture in the bedroom was chipped and scratched and the carpet looked as though it would benefit from a clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfasts were very good but if you didn't want this there was a very limited choice.
This was our first stay at the hotel, after a 4 hour train journey. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming, and were happy to help us with any request that we had. The hotel is approached via a beautiful tree lined drive, set in a picturesque location close to Ladies Walk. There was plenty of parking available at the hotel. We were informed well in advance of our stay that the restaurant would be closed and this was not a problem for us. Breakfast was served daily and consisted of a wide selection of food. The room was tidy and clean with a large TV screen, free Wifi and tea and coffee making facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel and hope to come back again next year.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, despite me arriving after 1am. The room was clean and functional with a good tv and powerful hot shower and comfortable bed. So it did what I needed. However, the walls are very thin and the room was NOISY. After arriving late I wanted to sleep in but hear people upstairs from 6:30am. The room was next to the staircase and I heard every step. And then housekeeping arrived around 8am and were noisy - chatting, laughing, singing, banging... Some was happy noise and it's nice if colleagues can have a chat, but this was right outside guest rooms with NO soundproofing. All I wanted to do was scream at them to shut up!! The singing was nice... In the evening someone in a nearby room (next door??) was talking until about 1am. I don't think they were talking loudly - it seemed like a normal conversation. But I heard every word. All in all, the hotel is comfortable and clean and convenient to Andover but needs better soundproofing between rooms, and needs to warn housekeeping staff to keep it down to a dull roar in the morning. Oh, and my room had an air conditioner but there were no controls to be able to turn it on - fan for both air circulation and white noise to drown out the talking.
After driving over 200 miles we arrived at the very overgrown entrance to the best Western then found there to be no disabled parking spots and all the spaces were filled with contractors vans. They were unable to give us a ground floor room meaning I had to climb the stairs which is very difficult for me. We then enquired about booking a table for dinner only to be told that the restaurant only does breakfast and told us to ring and get a take away delivery! The hotel is full of contractors and bikers and I am sure that they would have loved to eat after a hard day's work! There are bugs everywhere and the room had pieces of biscuits everywhere and is made up of a mix max of furniture. I just wish we didn't have to stay again tomorrow night!
So disappointing. We arrived after a 5 hour journey to be met by a grumpy receptionist. She told us the was no chef, no food or bar. Bed was very basic and it was an uncomfortable night. Woken up e early with banging doors and loud voices in the corridor.
Where do I start. Upon arrival - we found the receptionist rather rude and blunt. Walking to the room through the corridors and hallways it was evident that they don't spend much on up-keep… stained carpets, loose tiles and rotting window frames were just some of the problems. When we got to our room, we was greeted with the biggest house spider ever seen on our bed, as-well as several other small spiders and lots of cobwebs in the room. The overall decor was very very poor, chipped walls, stains on the carpets and wet/damp stains on the ceiling. Lastly, the bed was the hardest bed we've ever slept on… it was like sleeping on a rock. We didn't go in with high hopes as the price per night was so low… however, we expected much better quality than this. Would not recommend.
Where do I start! Booked a single room for my son. He Arrived about 10.30pm and given key at reception and went to the room, there was no window, it was dingy & didn't look too clean and very hot but it was late, he needed to be up early and it was only 1 night so he got his head down. He slept for about 2 hours when woken by a baby crying, the walls were so thin the baby might as well have been in the room. If the baby crying wasn't bad enough he said the snoring from the room above sounded like elephants. By this time it was 2.00am and there was no way he could sleep with the noise so went to reception, the guy came to the room and agreed the noise was unacceptable but they had no other rooms to move him to. By this time he was desperate for sleep so ended up taking his pillow & duvet to the car and slept in his car! He returned to the room to shower and had the very basic, not very tasty breakfast. He did receive a full refund which under the circumstances was warranted. He said it was the Worst hotel experience of his life!
Firstly, on a positive note, the cost of my room for a night was only £38. Where can you buy a hotel room for £38? Bargain? As times have got harder for this hotel, they must have let some staff go. They obviously began with the gardener. All of the ground floor windows are covered with overgrown bushes and long forgotten shrubs and weeds. No outside maintenance has been done for a long time it would seem. The aircon did not work in any of our three rooms initially but this was fixed by the ever present Ryan. Thanks to him for this. Behind the very poorly stocked bar, Ryan was polite and efficient. Thanks also to him for this. Breakfast however was a non event, literally. At approximately 7am Ryan took our breakfast orders. He patrolled the breakfast room with great authority but after 20 minutes our food had still not arrived. Ryan was unconcerned it seemed and he continued to patrol even though we were the only people in there at that time. After 30 minutes of much patrolling, no breakfast and no communication as to why, we left the room and the hotel. I have no idea why it might take 30 minutes to produce a breakfast and even less idea why such a delay was not explained to us. If you can ignore the beetles crawling across my room floor, the bites on my legs the following morning, the stains on the carpets, and the jungle view from the window, then do stay here. It's really cheap and actually good value. Just don't expect a breakfast regardless of what they promise.
Let's start with the good… Walking distance to town, nice tv, good WiFi The whole place has a run down look. I had checked in online so just needed to collect my key however on arriving at reception, the receptionist and housekeeping were having a good old row and didn't even acknowledge us. Eventually we got our key card only to find our room has not been cleaned since the last occupants left, bad at the best of times but during COVID totally unacceptable. Returning to reception the housekeeping row was still in full swing and there was no attempt to apologise to us, just an acceptance that this was not unusual. We were changed to another room sited along a corridor with no proper lighting, just some floor standing up lighters. The room was adequate but the air con, which at least worked sounded like a washing machine. Beds were hard, felt springs through the mattress. Pillows very thin. There was a feeling that nobody cared about the visitors or even the hotel. I read a planning application that some of the accommodations was to be knocked down. Best thing for it.
Brilliant hotel , breakfast, bar amazing, lovely walks and close to town , Fabulous room , power shower , air con , Plenty of parking, Lots of local knowledge of town ! If you want to enjoy Andover this is the place to stay , I'll be back if work in 4o miles radius! Staff all fantastic x
Very helpful staff, especially susanna, would stay again if in the area. Reasonable and clean, breakfast good. Thank you for making our short trip a good experience. The hotel were very accommodating with my early check in request. All the best for the season ahead
After a day at goodwood festival of speed this hotel was our stop over on our way home When we arrived there was no disabled parking as stated in my emails about my wife using crutches and had trouble walking So we had to park in the overflow car park So when we checked in they couldn't find us I gave them all our details still nothing even though I'd emailed them a couple of times asking not many steps Then they found us but said we have already checked in So they gave our room to another couple and still charged us which is not very professional So they gave us the room which the other couple was supposed to have but it was a long walk away from reception and up stars which wasn't good but they offered us a free breakfast for compensation they didn't really take into account my wife being disabled The room was nice better than I thought but was would you put a kettle in a room with the shortest lead so we had to put the kettle on the floor to use it (not good) Also the walkway from the reception to the rooms there was notice about slippy when wet it was undercover so this could have been dangerous for my wife or you could repair the roof then it would get wet Breakfast was nice
Basic. Lack of communication from staff and emails that were not correct -missed breakfast as was not informed by staff or by email that the restaurant was now open for breakfast -not the "breakfast to go" bag. Staff not the best, didn't appear to be interested in customer service. Pillow was thinner than the duvet. Shower curtain was ridiculous as the extractor fan was over the bath so it just constantly sticks to you, no grips on bath base so nearly slipped over.
Price was brilliant (under £45 for 2 of us without breakfast on a Thursday night) , room lovely and clean and staff pleasant. Unfortunately other guests were very selfish and wandering around without masks, including in front of staff and nothing was said. The hotel is a bit dilapidated and we had a broken gutter outside our window with a lot of water coming down throughout the night as it was raining so not the best night's sleep. They could also do with checking facilities as although not a big problem, the kettle filter was broken, the bathroom door didn't lock and the shower rail was very rusty. Saying that, the room was clean, the shower curtain spotless and the hot water plentiful and very powerful.
I'll start with a positive, the staff were very friendly.... When they could be found. The rest, however, was just plain awful. Rock hard beds made it impossible to get comfy. The building was dilapidated, so much so, I cut my arm on a bramble growing through a wall in the corridor. The doors slammed with an almighty thud, which made me jump whenever someone entered or left their room. The room was stifling hot and, although the room had aircon, it only stays on for 10 mins before you have to switch it on again. The corridor stank of smoke..... Which made me wonder if the fire alarms works - the one in my room was hanging off the wall. Finally, the most frustrating thing is that people were free to walk the corridor without wearing a mask. I realise this isn't exactly the hotel's fault, however, surely some signage reminding people to wear masks (people do seem to need reminding, unfortunately), or even a no mask no entry policy might help. I would describe this more of a shed rather than a hotel. However, that being said, a bit of maintenance, some soft closing doors and better air conditioning could turn this place around, particularly as it's in such a nice location. But until this place gets a refurb, I'll stick to a Premier Inn, Lenny would never let this happen.
Staff here were polite and friendly but the building is run down, outside completely overgrown, woodwork rotten, the aircon was useless so the room was extremely hot, there's no working slow closer on any door so all you hear is doors slamming, carpets are filthy, after staying 3 nights here I was glad to get home for a good night's sleep
Very very shabby. My room was so dark we had to keep the light on. Dirty carpets in the corridors. Stains on the mattress cover. The gardens haven't seen a strimmer for years. Very depressing. We left early
I bet this was a beautiful place in its time. But now? Well, run down is being kind really. Room was poor, wire coming out of electrical socket, rust on shower curtain rail. Actually I'll stop there as there is too much to list. Gardens must have been great once, but now just weeds. Outbuilding generally full of leaks. I was never told that the restaurant and bar was closed when I booked, so had to have a takeaway in my room and breakfast in a brown paper bag! Maybe mention it when taking bookings?! Stay away until the owners spend a few hundred thousand pounds repairing it. First, and last time.
As you drive in it does look pretty neglected, but in fact the rooms are very clean and comfortable. We had a nice friendly reception from Liz in reception, the rooms are typical fare but good to have plentiful tea and coffee.
Found someone else's Bralet down the side of our bed, also the room stank, the smell seemed to be coming from the bathroom, maybe mould or something? Not nice. Also extremely noisy property and staff are nowhere to be seen for you to report anything to and the breakfast you pay for is also nowhere to be seen when there's no staff to ask about it!
Satnav takes you all over the place before you find it. Lady on reception was nice and the lad serving food and the bar was very good. The room was nice enough and comfortable but the food was shocking and overpriced! Microwave curry for £14.99!!!! Breakfast was a croissant, yoghurt and a banana. SHOCKING! Covid only goes so far when it comes to excuses for this crap.
Stayed here for 2 nights in August as part of a Downton Abbey tour, we had a lovely room, very comfortable, staff were so helpful and couldn't do enough for you, had a few small issues at meal times, we were the first group in after the hotel reopened after being closed for Covid but generally the food was lovely so thank you to all the staff, would definitely stay again.
hi I would not go there as is not good at all very bad room we had the wife has heard her back and they did not even do anything about it so well not go there again so I would say go somewhere else as we well i hope I was looking forward to this as it has been a hard time for all off us
Overall the stay was good. Price was great. Room was nice and spacious with tea, coffee and water on offer Car park wasn't so good, bins were over spilling and parking could have been better marked out.
Couldn't fault this hotel for our one night stay en-route to Devon. The hotel is in a quiet location only 10 minutes walk to the town centre. Plenty of free parking on site at the hotel. Our King Deluxe room was spacious, clean and with everything we needed and there was plenty of storage, a large safe and tea/coffee making facilities, along with bottled water. TV, hairdryer, ironing facilities too. A good sized bathroom with both a shower and bath. The bed was very comfortable and there was air conditioning in the room which was a bonus as the weather was warm during our stay. All in all, excellent value at only £38.00. Mandy on Reception deserves a special mention, she was very helpful and friendly and she made us feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, so a big thanks, Mandy!
I have just come back from here after the closedown but my family are military and in this area we booked breakfast with our rooms though Booking.com to find out when we get there the kitchen is closed an Emil would have been nice informing us the rooms you see on the web site or not what you get our rooms where dark dirty and cold I cleaned my own room thinking they would be very clean as the lock down was now lifting extra cleaning would have been done we booked for 3 nights but left after 2 we fidget a night knockoff for me cleaning my own room it's nosey and pie fire alarm went of at 12:30 am in our room only the night staff said it goes of if your smoking or the steam from the bassets it of I'm 60 my mum is 84 none smokers and was in bed after travelling 5 hours the only nice thing I can say was the lady on front desk was nice and polite
Very odd hotel. Seems abandoned. Room was ok for the price 39 I would not pay more. Had gone off milk in my room and other people's hair everywhere, not great. Bed however was very comfy( if you like hard beds) Walls are paper thin. I love old run down buildings so it was lovely walking round the over grown garden, with some lovely views near by. This is not to every ones taste tho. The property and garden needs a good clean and tidy. The long corridor between the buildings was decorated with ....mouldy pictures... I guess one could call that art?
Absolutely shambolic. The restaurant was closed but no warning given on booking. Supposed to still be a continental breakfast, it wasn't. It was cereal and toast and that was it. All the cereal was also full sugar versions so not much use for a diabetic. No one to wait on tables, not even orange juice available. Wouldn't be so bad but I paid for breakfast in the room rate. Also, walls between the rooms are paper thin so you can hear everything that's going on in the next room.
So you get what you pay for - cold corridors - bar area like a college recreation room - long waits for food - mouldy bathroom - generally odd place. Very odd staff - cans of Guinness no draught!! Don't stay here - there will be cheaper options that are better.
The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly, but there was a lot of noise from other guests rooms with men shouting and banging doors until after midnight. Not what you need when you have an early start the next day. We were supposed to be in the quiet part of the hotel as well?
Stayed 3 nights for business. Arrived on Sunday evening only to find that the kitchen was closed for routine maintenance / cleaning, so had to go back out to eat. Room was ok, although the mattress was too soft for my liking and the foam pillows gave me a headache. Breakfast was ok, although there was no black pudding for the duration of my stay, and the fried eggs were swimming in oil.. Top tip for using the conveyor-belt toaster is to put the bread through 3 times to get it suitably toasted. Sunday night receptionist was very helpful, but the weekday receptionist seemed uninterested in doing much. The few other staff seemed overworked, and the whole hotel seemed quite run-down and had clearly seen better days. Location is tucked away up a minor road so the surroundings are quiet, although the sound of doors closing did travel down the corridors. I think that the hotel's location might be convenient for visiting the local area and its attractions, but just don't expect too much if you stay here.
This hotel is fairly priced to what you get. I visited here with my partner and booked due to it being 25 mins drive from Stone Henge which we were visiting. The hotel has a free to use car park with plenty of spaces which was very handy. The reception / check in was very smooth and the lady was friendly. The room itself was surprisingly larger than expected and very warm and cosy. We later found that evening the room was too warm and we were unable to adjust the radiator in the room. We called reception and they provided us with an air conditioning remote to help cool the room. The bathroom was quite dated and needed an update, but we couldn't fault it as it was clean and had everything we needed. The room also had a flat screen tv, hairdryer and plenty of storage for clothes. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a basic, cheaper hotel within driving distance to the Stone Henge.
Well located if you are away on buisiness or leisure in or around Andover. The food in the bar area was to a decent standard and the breakfast was well presented with a good selection of items on offer.
A good hotel with nice staff. However, the restaurant service is very poor. Having worked out on site for thirteen hours, returned to the hotel to find that no food is being served. This is not the first time that this has happened to me at this hotel. I walked into Andover to get something to eat. I shall have to reconsider my choice of hotel when working in this location.
we stayed one night on our way to Highclere castle. it was an easy check in and out, Varied breakfast buffet, well stocked and dishes cleared away promptly. We were impressed with the bathroom and bed. in room 208, It was a quiet location but near town.
We found this hotel to be clean and pleasant, with friendly, helpful staff and a great breakfast. Rooms a little cramped, and the walls are thin, but all in all good value for the price. Would use again.
Good location for Andover, quiet and away from traffic and the town but a short walk from the facilities such a pubs etc. The proximity to the town was appreciated by me as the restaurant was closed. The room is essential needs only, large TV with basic channels and simple remote. Clock radio super bright display and I had to turn it off to avoid the room being over lit at night. Iron and ironing board as well as kettle with adequate drink making. Nice touch to have a packet of biscuits and bottle of mineral water. Bathroom adequate and plenty of towels. Bed adequate and tidy. Breakfast OK with bonus points for fried bread !
Many people have already commented on the need for improvements in this hotel. I can only agree with them. The rooms were fine but getting to them along an unheated glass covered walkway was an unpleasant experience in cold weather. The food was On a level similar to a school canteen. Many of us sent plates back with food still on them. The breakfast was plentiful but served in cramped conditions and the bacon and sausages were cheap tasting. The staff were lovely though.
Sadly this hotel needs considerable investment to get up to the standard you might expect from a typical budget hotel, such as you might get from the local Premier Inn. However, the hotel does the job for an overnighter if you can't get into the aforementioned hotels.
We arrived earlier than expected and were surprised to find that lunch is not an option at this hotel. We had to go into town. Room 102 is a large executive room on the ground floor with nice views over the car park. It was clean and comfortable. The hotel is out of town and there are lovely walks in the vicinity. Dinner was served in the bar and was rather disappointing. The breakfast was buffet style and the hot choices cooked to order.
Stayed here overnight whilst visiting customers in the area, parking was great, plenty of it, however not really impressed with the food, limited menu and felt more like sitting in a cafe than a bar. Pencil needs sharpening ............ Very soon
This hotel does definitely need some TLC. The decor is in need of a revamp. The walls (and ceilings) are paper thin, and consequently there is little privacy if you make or receive phone calls. You can usually hear the television of any neighbouring room, and you can definitely hear anything said by anyone who is having a shower in another room. The restaurant menu is pretty unimaginative but adequate, and there is a strange corridor from reception to the rooms, which is unlit at night. On the other hand, I cannot fault the staff, who are polite and hard-working. The rooms are clean, and the aircon works satisfactorily.
Staff are pleasant , hotel definitely needs updating but you get what you pay for, rates are good , spring mattress is not kind on the joints , but can't knock the service for the price I paid , just expected more from a big name
food dreadful, restaurant filthy, staff useless, room had a bathroom window on the ground floor facing the car park with no curtain or frosted glass- lovely view ...OUT and IN !! breakfast disgusting paid £112 for the night then realised could have paid £38 on booking dot com which would have been £40 too much!
Worse best western there could be. Booked a king room and ended up with a double. Due to them over booking. Room wasn't even ready at 6pm. Then room had huge air con unit directly outside window which was so noisy sounded like an airplane taking of. Eventually got moved room which was ok but bathroom wasn't really clean. Hair all over bathroom floor and bath tub also had hair in. Beds are like sleeping on bricks. Which is great if you want to wake up with chronic back pain and to top stay of kettle didn't work or.t.v. and walls are paper thin. Denfinlty won't be staying again
Firstly I would like to remind the fellow reviewers of this hotel just how much we all paid, secondly that when there is clearly only one member of staff running the bar and tables and the like, tutting loudly and generally winging and moaning about unkempt garden boarders does not and will not speed up service, either give him a chance or go and pay double up the Q Hotel for everything I paid £59.00 to stay in what was billed as an Executive Double, impeccably clean room exceptionally comfy bed huge room for the cost and quiet with it. Reception staff dealing with blooming winging gits that wanted The Grand Brighton to be in Andover and such professional service was given to them but not deserved at all so hats off to those two on reception. The young guy behind the bar as mentioned in previous reviews was just non stop, if you evr want a job just drop me a line, along with reception staff all a very valuable asset to the place. The Hotel in general was very clean, ok in some places a little 1985, but I will say again £59.00 for gods sake and we had 5* service / a lovely room/ great staff/ decent priced bar and views across Wilts and Hants in the morning you would happily pay for. Sorry but for that money it is easily the best hotel I have used in a long time, excellent job all and see you soon.
Firstly the receptionist and the barmen where great. For a hotel belonging to the best western franchise has to be an embarrassment.the place is an absolute hole. Now the management must've known by the bookings how busy they would be but elected to have one bar staff serving drinks ,taking meal orders, taking the orders out and clearing tables.the guy was struggling but never complained he just got on with it and credit to him, shame on his employers.the hotel itself is suffering from lack of care.peeling wallpaper in the main dining room, peeling paint on outside woodwork.the gardens a mess, overgrown borders, glasses left out from I presume a wedding reception from the flute glasses and confetti.napkins wedges under table legs ,upholstery hanging out from underneath chairs. The rooms dated and paper thin walls. The room I was in upstairs from reception could hear the music coming from the bar. The meal we had was fine, albeit 2 plates came out and we had to wait 10 mins before another 2 came out. This place is not only the worst best western hotel I've stayed in but possibly one of the worst I've ever stayed in.do yourself a favour and avoid like the plague.you have been warned.
The hotel was very adequate for what we required for our stay. Little things like shampoo, shower caps were not provided. Would have been a nice touch and if we stayed longer may have been required. Value for money.
I have now been in the bar for over an hour waiting for a burger and chips. it has arrived it has been eaten, it has been enjoyed. the burger a little over cooked, the bun burnt, the salad and chips (fries) good, onion rinks cremated. but, I did enjoy it and it was good value. shame there is only one chef and everyone arrived at the same time. Rooms seem ok, plenty of parking space and reasonable price.
The quality of the room is certainly reflective of the price we paid. The bed was tiny for my 6ft boyfriend to fit in- so if you're tall this is definitely not the place for you! And it was of average comfort level especially if travelling here on a really hot day as the radiator had been left on when we came back from our day out and it was boiling in our room for the rest of the night even after switching it off! However, the staff were nice and friendly and helped us with whatever we needed. I would recommend booking breakfast though as the hotel is a fair walk away from all the amenities!
This was just a one night stay. It was the perfect location for what I needed. The exterior of the hotel is run down and the gardens are unkempt. This is a shame as they could really enhance the whole experience. The room was spotless and had everything I needed. Interior of the hotel tired and in need of TLC. The cleaning staff and the breakfast waiter were friendly and helpful. The receptionist was unprofessional and busy with other things when checking in and checking out. The lock on a security door from the car park into the Village Suite was broken meaning anyone could enter the hotel day or night. It was OK but with a bit of care it could be lovely.
I found the property clean and well maintained. The staff, especially the reception staff were great and gave excellent service. There could have been an issue with parking as a wedding reception was ongoing, but fortunately, either by luck of the car park users, or by advice of the staff, the access to the hotel was maintained
Stayed one night at this hotel. Was given a room on the ground floor as requested. Staff were very friendly and welcoming and all made a point of talking to our little boy which he loved! Unfortunately the room was awful. Filthy with touched up paint on areas of the wall and emulsion on the carpet. Seen quite a few bugs which was unsettling. Bedding felt damp, metal wire sticking out of radiator which my little boy tried to play with. Unfortunately by the time we discovered the issues it was too late to do anything and I didn't have time at checkout to raise the problems with the member of staff on reception. Complained when I returned home and was given immediate refund so think they are aware of the problem and will hopefully rectify it by refurbishing this particular room.
The Hotel appeared to have been recently refurbished. I have mobility difficulties. We informed the Hotel beforehand and were accommodated on the ground floor in a very nice, spacious bedroom. Check in was very easy and efficiently done. The bathroom was spotless, the bed was comfortable and we were able to open the windows wide which was very welcomed in the heat we've been experiencing. Good choice of coffee making facilities in the room. Small, spotlessly clean bar area with a very polite and helpful young Bar Waiter who helped carry our drinks into the lounge. Comfy choice of seating in the lounge. Modern, basic restaurant which lacked a little atmosphere. The Restaurant menu offered a small variety of no nonsense choices. My husband and I both chose homemade main meals which were well cooked and very generous. We did not stay for breakfast due to an early morning commitment and a later weekend start time for serving breakfast. My only criticism is that there was no accessible parking and whilst we were able to park in the evening, a staff member parked immediately behind our car the following morning making it very difficult to manoeuvre out. We will stay again.
We only stayed overnight but I would have gladly stayed longer. Our room had air conditioning which was much appreciated, as were the complimentary bottles of water. The Town of Andover was quiet, clean and friendly with an interesting history. The hotel was also only a 30 minutes car journey from Stonehenge.
Coming back from Cornwall so wanted to break up the journey time and pre-booked here. Very friendly receptionist. Large and comfortable room with robes and water provided. Plenty of parking. Nice staff taking orders for food. Large helpings choice more akin to construction workers but ok. Small lounge area where you could also eat. Breakfast quite good but not huge choice, buffet style.
The room was on the small side but the bed was comfortable, the shower hot and powerful. Large Samsung flat screen TV. good selection on the hospitality tray inc bottled water. There are improvements to be made, the window frames are in need of a lick of paint. The reception area has new style LED hanging light fittings which will quickly date and are not cheap. Easy walk into town for dinning out. pleasant staff.
Stayed here on Tuesday 18th of June, the rooms were clean and the Staff were all friendly. We had an excellent time with the bar staff, mostly Ellie, but also Elliot. I got so drunk in town that I passed out in the hallway when I got back, but they weren't in the slightest bit phased. Haha. Brilliant.
pubic hairs on the sink after the executive room had been cleaned. So either someone had dingled their danglies in the sink or used the same cloth to wipe the sink after wiping the toilet. Hot water was also an issue, it was all or nothing. Freezing cold water or volcanic not good when you have had a long travel and a days work on top and you can't shower. Management wasn't interested in either of the above issues. Sub standard apologies at the best. Our group (x4 separate rooms) had issues from bath water which wouldn't drain. Stained bed sheets and really uncomfortable beds. This hotel is below budget at best. I advise you to choose one of the better hotels in the town centre. You have been warned.
food and drink expensive hard to get a drink the barman kept disappearing the room was nice and big with a bath the hotel is out the way down a dark lane so take your own food and drink staff ok if you can find any one person serving need more staff
Booked to stay one night with my partner as we were visiting friends down here. We arrived and checked in which was quick and easy. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and tidy. The bed was a decent size, however with it being an ‘executive king' room the bathroom could have been a bit more updated and not as standard and it would have been nice to have a shelf in the shower to put shower gel and shampoo etc on instead of bending down to the floor to pick things up. The bed was comfortable enough. We were supplied with tea and coffee facilities, the cups were larger than most hotels which is always a good thing and can't fault being given custard creams at all. We checked out in the morning at quarter to 11, it took about 30 seconds and the morning receptionist was friendly too. We had no noise complaints through the night even though there were lots of cars in the car park which suggested it could have been busy in the hotel. I like that it's set back from the road and is a nice quiet area. All in all, would return if we were in the area again.
Stayed 2 nights for business which unfortunately coincided with block booking by a film crew who seem to think they have the run of the place, taking over the small bar area and outside seating area. Both nights I was disturbed by them returning to rooms late at night and banging doors then they left again around 3.30-4am with resultant noise. Have cancelled my next booking here because of this. A shame as the room was adequate and food was OK. However would be handy to have a breakfast menu so that you know what's available when asked what you want when it's cooked to order.
This place was average, it done the job and had a good sleep all I needed really. It was clean and the service was good. Good parking outside, sometimes hard to find as it is tucked away you will understand when you get there. Overall not bad
My sister and I have just had two nights in this hotel while on a Just Go coach trip visiting Highclere. The check in procedure took ages and we then had to queue for room key cards. The organisation of and service at the evening meal on both nights was terrible. The manager is rude and blames her staff for everything that in fact was down to her bad organisation. The staff however work very hard and are very pleasant! The room was clean but overall this hotel is a disaster zone.
Stayed here for 2 weeks with work loved the stay was made worth it by the staff the waiter mark and the waitress Kelly made it worth going to the bar and restaurant always there to have a chat and a laugh and made sure the stay was as good as it could have been. The room was ok and the food pretty good manager seemed to always be away and did not talk to us or make an effort to at any poin.
best way to describe a poorly ran business! it's clean and reasonably presented, staff are wayward and service is poor. room was basic, but clean, free parking and that's about as polite as i can be about this place
Like others, I have to say that the hotel could do with a big refurbishment, but refurbishments cost a lot of money. But quite spacious and everything is reasonable, not good, not bad, just reasonable.
Stayed in this hotel for work. Nice and clean with overall great service. The standout was the great service from the bar staff. The food was also fantastic, compliments to the chef.. Thanks for looking after me this visit.
A very basic hotel that is desperately in need of some TLC. The double room I had was comfortable and served its purpose for one night. However, the decor is tatty and some walls quite grubby throughout. The bar is adequate but the menu restricted and of very average quality. Lounge is completely without character and contains dated furniture. Breakfast was passable. The only good thing was that the staff were charming and helpful. I wouldn't stay again.
Started ok but went downhill quickly ordered food told 15-20 mins waited 44mins complained got a cursory apology designed to placate, food arrived frozen chips and a fish heavily battered crispy on the outside soggy on the inside basically inedible complained to the night manager. Then went to my room key card failed so missed important conference call, on booking out they took my card details again for the 3rd time, I've stayed here before and it's been ok but I won't be back here again. I find Staying away from home for work a necessary evil I don't like it so it has to be stress free this was the polar opposite so as I said before won't be back.
'Sunday Lunch' booked direct with hotel using a 'Groupon Voucher' (….. which inc; a picture of a roast lunch!), in addition, thought we might as well make a night of it so booked direct with hotel for a room …… 'all confirmed from hotel with e-mail' OK, so far so good!. Upon 'check-in' at approx 1200hrs the room booking was confirmed, BUT …. we were informed there was no record of our lunch booking, indeed it was said 'we don't' do Sunday Lunch'. To be fair the manager tried very hard to accommodate us but it was obvious this was not going to be a traditional Sunday lunch and personally we also felt at that time we may have been the only people in the restaurant! So it was with regret we cancelled our total booking, we came away from the hotel disappointed and not best pleased with this establishment. As user of the 'Best Western' chain of hotels this did not make the mark!!! But thanks again to the manager for her efforts to put things right. Sorry!
I occasionally work in Andover as this place is ideal for me. Close to town, good value for money, very good staff, easy going breakfast with everything you need and if you want you can have a nice evening meal too.
For a Best Western Hotel it was pretty poor. My room was small and on the ground floor. I was woken as guests from a wedding party had an amorous engagement against my window at 2 am. My bedroom carpet had seen many better days and was stained. The food was in generous proportions but was lacking in flavour and quality. The whole hotel appeared run down and unloved. I wont stay there again.
I arrived here before the snow fell for a couple of nights. The snow fell and 4 nights later Im still here. Every member of staff has been polite, offered to help where they could. A great stay and am hoping I can get home tomorrow. The long steep drive to the car park was compacted ice and it would have been great if salt could have been put down - definatly a tip for the coming years
The rooms and beds here are pretty decent, if you can umn-scramble the myriad prices, you can get a decent deal but, very few staff appear to give a toss. The breakfast, only meal I will now bother with has gotten so poor, I doubt I'll return unless I have no choice. Cheap, watered juices, staff not bothered enough to ask what drink you'd like or top it up, just so disappointing
Being checked into a hotel by someone who doesn't know how the computer system works is no acceptable. The lady checking me in was rude and had no customer service skills. The room wasn't very clean so asked to change rooms and got told there was no other room available so ‘I'll have to deal with it!' Asked to speak to the manager in the morning but was told that she doesn't start until 10 so I would have to wait. Again. Not acceptable! No management on site. Only good point is the bar staff in the evening. Food was lovely.
Wonderful stay and everything was perfect except had to wait a bit for bar service. It was low occupancy so not that many people around so reception staff had to help in the bar as well. Great hotel and will be back.
This hotel is in a nice location and very easy to find, it is very quiet & peaceful. There is however a warning on the Best Western website saying that there may be some noise if there is a function taking place at night. You could always ask at the front desk when you check in if there is a function on that night & if so which is the best room to lessen the chance of being disturbed by any noise there may be. The hotel is located only 5 Minutes walk from the Historic Town of Andover. Winchester Cathedral is only 17 Miles away, Stonehenge is 19 Miles, Highclere Castle is 20 Miles and Southampton is 30 Miles, so this hotel is a great place to use as a base if you wanted to explore this area. There is plenty of free parking and the whole area is very well lit at night, we were also assured that the whole car park is covered by CCTV 24/7 We received a very warm & friendly welcome from the two young ladies (Lily & Harriet) on the front desk. The room was large & very clean, the bed was extremely comfortable. The room had a wall mounted Air Conditioning System which was controlled by a remote control. The remote controls are available from the front desk, so if you visit this hotel don't forget to ask for one when you check in. They keep a record of which room has had one issued, and you have to hand it back in when you check out, this is to prevent the remote controls from being removed accidentally by guests when they leave. Which I think is a very good idea. We checked out quite early as we were meeting friends for breakfast and so did not have breakfast at this hotel, but it looked and smelled wonderful. We will definitely be staying here again and we are looking forward to having some of that wonderful food. My Wife & I definitely recommend this hotel, and we are looking forward to our next stay.
Overall the setting was nice however the the food whist tasty could have been better, a very poor bar service and the entertainment was not as good as we imaged it would be. We were seated at the back of the room and could not hear the singer or DJ. Surprised that the music finished so early, and the staff were clearing away the table decorations as soon as the meal was finished. The bar service was slow, and ran out of ice and clean glasses, with a very limited selection, we order a G & T served in a Coca Cola glass and a bialys swerved Ina half pint glass with no ice.
Gary Barlow Tribute Act- What a fabulous evening of fun and entertainment. Thank you to all the staff who were very helpful with any queries we had. They did great to cater for so many people. A great time was had by all. Thank you.
Have stayed at BW Andover twice in past 6 weeks. Excellent. Free parking. Free internet. Those two things keep me away from Travel Lodge unless absolutly necessary. Easy to book in, excellent room, good choice on evening menu, good bed, shower perfect, hassel free departure. Room price £45.60 Premier inn £98.00 no brainer
The staff were very professional but the hotel is a little tired. As I arrived very late and left early I cannot comment on any of the facilities other than breakfast which was up to the usual standard for a best western hotel.
Excellent location for Southampton Port, unfortunately the boiler wasn't working when we arrived but, was soon rectified. Nice enough hotel, not very busy when we went there, pleasant enough staff and ample parking, within downhill walking distance to Andover itself but, anyone not willing to walk up the steep return, taxi's are readily available and cheap enough.
I was lucky enough to submit a photograph that won us a weekend away with Best Western and this was the hotel they booked us in to. The welcome was very good, and receptionist gave us s choice of rooms which was lovely. Rooms were clean tidy and well equipped, tea and coffee freely available with replacements if you just asked. Plenty of hanging space and drawers. WiFi in room excellent quality, but you have to re-register after 24 hours. Food quality in dining room was excellent, compliments to the chef who cooked steaks exactly to our requirements, and the freshly made satay sauce was delicious, but just a shame that this was served on cold plates. The ambience was lacking though, possibly not helped by the face there was only our table and one other , but just a little music in the evening in the dining room would have made a difference. Also cooked breakfast, great choice plentiful, sausage quality was good , but limited fresh fruit choice. Overall a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend, although if we stayed here again it would probably only be on a b&b basis.
Arrived here with our friends for a two night stay dinner/bed and breakfast and received a warm welcome. Lovely clean and quiet rooms in the main building with good amenities and spacious. Breakfast offered all you could want to set you up for the day and the waiting staff cannot do enough for you. The dinner menu was confusing and with only the breakfast room or bar to eat it in the atmosphere was soulless and uninspiring. However the food was excellent but needed to be served on hot plates rather than cold ones as we experienced. All in all a good hotel but should we ever return the next time would only go B & B unless the evening amenities and menu changed.
Stayed here for two nights. Rooms were clean and tidy and included tea/coffee making facilities and an ironing board etc. There was a decent selection for items for breakfast, ranging from a full cooked breakfast to croissants. The staff were also very helpful and very friendly. Andover town centre is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. While the walls are a little thin between the rooms, it didn't bother me at all. All in all a good hotel that is reasonably priced.
Our room was clean but our bed was a little uncomfortable. We had used the best western group before and previous bed was lovely. Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok but eggs were rubbery and grapes appeared past there sell by date, Shrivelled and brown looking. We had a lovely evening meal cooked by the Italian chef which was lovely. Chicken succulent and moist. Bar staff lovely. On the whole our over night stay was good and would return.
I chose this hotel with a days notice, for my very deaf 91 year old Mum and I as it promised to be 'leafy', had a restaurant, seems well reviewed, was close enuf to the local hospice (1.75 miles) where very sadly my sister was, had enuf rooms for us to possibly extend our stay if need be, and could offer us two rooms next to each other. I wanted somewhere as comfortable as the Potters Heron in Ampfield where we would stay when my sister was less ill. The restaurant was not open when we wanted our first evening meal. The next day it was but cold, as the radiator did not work...so everyone was in the bar area with the TV on (not good for my deaf Mum)....the restaurant radiator was repaired on the Monday of our visit. However it's not the comfiest of places to dine...there was a bin on view complete with a black dustbin bag liner, on that first night in the restaurant there was radio music playing modern music rather loudly (what about a little jazz or something more suitable for an evening in a restaurant?), the dining room lacked atmosphere. I was promised upstairs rooms overlooking the garden and got rooms (nos 202 and 203) overlooking a local lane (which in the end was a blessing in disguise as the rooms overlooking the garden also overlooked the carpark which we were trying to avoid). I was told there would be a cafetière in our rooms and there was not...I being told they had been stolen (why weren't' they replaced). I was told our rooms and bed would be very big...they were not (the bed is 5' wide). My Mum had too little space to put her things in the bathroom....I had a shelf under the mirror which she did not; there was paint on the inside of the glass of my bathroom window...(why didn't the painter clean it off?); my TV remote was a replacement so I was unable to get the sub titles on (however unlike the Potters Heron Hotel we could get talking pictures which was a bonus for us); I had to ask for the remote for the air conditioning and when I got it from reception it only blew out cold air as the hotel had not turned on the heating...equally I had to ask for the radiators to be turned on and when they were, only one of the two in my room worked....and still the towel rail in the bathroom was off....the latter duly rectified on the Monday. There was no non slip mat in the bathroom, my mum realising when she was having a bath (apparently they get stolen so there is a note, not seen by my mum, saying you have to ask for them at reception); my mums bathroom lock fell off as soon as she arrived with no one to repair it until the week end was over....I later realised mine was not there so there was a hole where it used to be. The lock cards for our room annoyingly got un programmed on a daily basis...apparently they need to be kept a good distance from your mobile. I had a copy for Mums room for emergencies, but this too did not work on a daily basis. When I went down to reception at 2.50 am to get my spare reprogrammed there was no one there...I dinged the bell..no response. Five mins later I was there again to check we could leave the locked up building...still no one at reception...ended up phoning them. Someone then emerged so Mum and I could exit for the Hospice. I also think the bedroom doors are a fire risk...they don't close of their own volition....so I spent many a night there with what was effectively an open door, as did at least one of my friends that stayed in another room....I think 204. However there was an iron in the room, an ironing board and a hair dryer...these had not been stolen...and neither had the kettle. There were also two framed black and white photo's hanging on the wall which I found tasteful. We could get a signal on our mobiles. The staff were lovely, the rooms pleasant enough altho not my idea of the large deluxe double (otherwise called an executive room) rooms we were promised....I did see an example of such a room on the ground floor, complete with cafetieres and size...but pillars which some may not like...(maybe hard to avoid when sleepily on the way to the bathroom). The food was well cooked, the home made soups good, with a menu that pleased my mums more traditional tastes...I was impressed by their efforts to accommodate my vegetarian/vegan leanings ..eg making a ploughman's starter with a decent salad without the rocket leaves I don't like adding the grapes I asked for; a very good vegetarian bangers and mash with fried onions and Yorkshire pudding; a pasta dish nearly as good as my mums..the strawberry icecream tasted very artificial, and it would have been nice to have a salted caramel to choose too, rather than the standard strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. They had combined the menue from the bar and restaurant ..(an example of this is attached), the breakfasts were good. The parking was good too. The bed comfy. I did miss the cafetière tho for my brewed coffee first thing in the morning. This place strikes me as somewhere that the owner does not want to spend money on...(I think the Premier Inn would probably be better managed, with a more comfortable restaurant, but who wants to look out on dustbins)? I did not get what I was told I would get (a big room, overlooking garden, with a cafetière etc). Its a budget hotel...so maybe I expect too much..but describing a room I did not get is surely worthy of a reduction which I did ask for but did not get...on top of this both my Mum and I spent 16 days each in our respective rooms, and brought more custom to the hotel in the shape of two friends who took a room for three days in total? Andover seems pretty short of leafy many roomed hotel options a short drive away from the hospice. We did extend our stay three times and they did fall over backwards to accommodate us...and keeping us in the same room. That I am very grateful for. Over the time I grew fond of the place....warts and all.
Currently staying as away with work, can't complain one bit brilliant value for money. May not be the ritz but it makes up for it in many ways! Lily (sorry if name is wrong head receptionst) is brilliant remembered our face from few weeks previous and brilliant service from behind the bar from Nicola and Sharon! Can't complain one bit, clean rooms friendly staff and not over priced! Definitely recommend
Stayed her e before a number of times and acceptable on all levels! Had a double room this time which was clean and air conditioned. A little cramped not much room for a chair, Hot and stuffy in the bathroom, but there was no bathroom window to open and cool it down .. The receptionist was friendly as were the girls at breakfast. Breakfast is a buffet and was all fresh and good qulaity. Whilst the bedroom is fine, the small public areas such as the restaurant, outdoor seating area and bar aren't so inviting or good.It does the job however and I would go back. !
We needed a room for one night where we would be arriving late. This hotel had a great price and free cancellation and parking .. and a full breakfast. Reviews warned of the dated rooms and thin walls and they were right. However, it fit our needs, the room was clean. friendly staff, and probably gave us the best value to price for the entire trip ... but definitely the lowest quality hotel we stayed in and wouldn't want to stay for multiple nights.
Although I believe you should only expect what you pay for, you still have the right to be compensated when your stay has not filled your basic expectations. Our basic expectations for this stay was a bed for the night and a shower in the morning. Unfortunately for the hotel, their boiler broke overnight, which meant we couldn't shower in the morning. We were not notified of this before attempting to shower, which would have been useful (a note under the door or an email to wake up to perhaps). Also worth noting, when we called down, we were not given an alternative option, even though someone at the front desk later that morning was given one. We of course bought up the lack of a hot shower when we checked out, but the response that we were met with was effectively 'tough luck, not our fault'. When we suggested (partial) compensation, we were told that it wasn't possible because we didn't book directly with them. What made this worse was that the final stance from the two people on the desk was 'we could help you if you'd have booked with us instead'. Hindsight is a wonderful thing eh? When we complained through the booking company, they told us that when they contacted the hotel directly themselves, they refused a partial refund. Luckily the booking company were able to compensate us, but this wasn't their responsibility. A broken boiler is an unfortunate situation for any hotel to deal with, but you HAVE to deal with it. You can't just shrug it off. Own it, and realise you have a responsibility to your paying guests, regardless of who they've booked their room through.
Stayed for one night. Easy check in with receptionist Liz. Lovely big room and well equipped. Nice touch of bottled water. Very clean throughout. Hotel in a quiet location but within close proximity of the town centre, less than 10mins walk away. Breakfast was really good. Lots of choice, food well presented and tasty. Would recommend and we will stay again
Wanted a hotel which gave us good value for money and we could visit some interesting properties in the area, and a new one we visited was Houghton Lodge near Stockbridge. Very charming and will visit there again.
A second stay here, so can't be all bad ! Had a double room this time which was clean and air conditioned. A little cramped as a chair blocked the door to the bathroom, but there was no where else it could go. The receptionist was friendly as were the girls at breakfast. Breakfast is a buffet and was all fresh and good. Whilst the bedroom is fine, the small public areas such as the restaurant, outdoor seating area and bar aren't so good. It does the job however !
I didn't believe that Fawlty Towers really existed until I stayed here. From the argumentative lady on reception, to the bar which looked as if the decor from the 70s, complete with uncomfortable upright chairs. Added to that, the restaurant menu was ‘off' and so we were left with an unexciting but expensive bar menu.
Stayed one night and overall the experience was good. Friendly staff and rooms were nice and big and clean. Dinner service was slow but not sure of reason why as hotel was not that busy. Food was good. Good breakfast choice. Plenty of parking outside the hotel. WiFi free.
I booked hotel via hotels.com as they offered a discount, I had booked the hotel as it was near a festival I had planned to visit. Upon arrival the booking in process was very easy and I was directed to my room. It was a nice size room, clean and bright with kettle coffe and tea available, as was as a nice size tv. I went into Andover town for the first evening, and returned in time to get a drink from the bar, whilst there I asked if the booking came with breakfast and was informed that the booking didn't, at this time I was surprised I wasn't offered to pay extra for breakfast sadly. The day of the festival sadly the rain came so the visit was cut short so I returned to the hotel to dry out and change into dry clothing. I returned to the main hotel to watch tv and purchase some food as on every table was bar snack menu, I went to order food around 15:00hrs and was told no food was available until 18:30hrs, so sadly I had to leave the hotel and venture into Andive to purchase food. All in all the hotel was nice. Clean, quiet and I was very happy with the place, only down side poor communication and little information regarding when the food would be available. If I went again I will check direct with the hotel that breakfast is included.
Perfect for the night before Carfest.....only a 20 minute drive to the site. Be warned that if you arrive early, there is no lunch served. We had a room in the main part of the hotel which was clean and adequately equipped with air conditioning, tea and coffee making facilities and large flat screen tv. Ensuite bathroom - bath with shower over BUT with a shower curtain not a glass screen! Net curtains don't meet in the middle but outer curtains are ok. Evening meal was taken in the bar area which is more like like a cheap cafe but the food was good and plentiful. There was an al le carte menu for the restaurant where breakfast was also served. Nice buffet cooked breakfast with fruits and cereals etc. Check in and out was speedy.
We have stayed in many Best Western Hotels over the years and this one is on a par with any others with good rooms and restaurant, it is the lack of safety provided for guests that I found so alarming. We inspected the room and found that the shower was fixed arm over a steel bath with curtain, What we found missing was no non slip surface in the bath or a mat, also no grab rails to hold and no grab pulls on the bath. We asked for a bath mat at about 17:00, then again at about 20:00, the lady on reception was now going to ring the manager to advise were to find one. Come 22:00 the manager had still not responded so why employee him? As a result I began to look at the room, the entrance fire door to our room had a gap you could limbo dance under, the window did not have an escape sash and as for the narrow treads on the access stairs to our room they did not comply with Building Regulations (21"-24"). The group fire officer and safety officer need to get to site ASAP and re-evaluate the property.
Have stayed at many Best Western Hotels and they are generally of a very high standard. This is not. It holds itself out as a 3 star establishment and charges accordingly but from our experience 2 star would be more like it. It is not all bad. The staff are brilliant - professional, helpful and friendly - they even managed to spot we had left something in our room and return it to us be fore we drove off. The breakfast was OK. However the quality of furnishings in the public rooms is poor more 2 star than 3 star. Our room, which should have been a double, was obviously a single with a double bed squeezed in. This meant it was right up against the wall on one side which is unacceptable. The room was spartan to say the least and although the room was clean the carpet was badly stained so it looked unpleasantly filthy. Have the management not heard of carpet cleaner? Overall a poor experience - had the staff not been so outstanding I would have rated it only 2 or maybe 1.
Stayed for 1 night en-route to the west. Room very nice albeit noisey during the night due to contractors going to work early. Lovely breakfast with ample choices and buffet full English. Pleasant staff and nice grounds would definitely return if in area.
Stayed for a night, the staff were cheerful and helpful. The evening meal was good and not overly expensive. The breakfast was excellent with plenty of options. My room was clean and tidy, though I will agree with another review that the insulation was poor but fortunately there were no overly noisy guests. I would defiantly stay there again in the future.
Stayed here last week for 1 night.Good location and plenty of parking. Reasonably priced rooms, so not overly expensive. Check in was quick and efficient, Wifi good Food in the evening was ok, limited menu and nothing to write home about. Breakfast was much better and plentiful. Staff were all ver pleasant especuially in bar/restaurant. Would i stay here again? - Yes
This was our first stay in a Best Western hotel, and it will not be our last !!!!! The staff were pleasant and helpful, the room was very clean with all the usual mod cons, the air con was worth the money on its own !!!!!. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice. Definitely recommended !!!!
It is a basic hotel which, in all honesty, would benefit from a makeover. Our room was ‘tired' and the sound insulation was very poor. We were woken by a ‘neighbour' coughing and flushing loos and dodgy plumbing provided a background to our slumbers. The room was clean, staff cheerful and it's cheap. Not a great hotel experience but if you need to be close to Andover and you need just one night it is ok - if you are a sound sleeper.
Staying at a Best Western is always a hit or miss venture. Their portfolio of hotels are a real mixed bag. Some are beautiful converted historic buildings full of charm and character and others are as bland and soulless as a Premier Inn. Unfortunately this particular one falls into the latter category. Room is basic but serves its purpose, evening menu consists of a handful of generally unhealthy bar food options, but it is breakfast that really drives the nail in its coffin. Acidic orange juice made totally from concentrate. Buffet breakfast which you would struggle to get below a 1000 calorie count. Fried eggs in a soup of grease. I ordered the scrambled eggs which came in a gravy of what looked like custard. Not a satisfying experience though staff are friendly enough, hence the 3 star rating as opposed to a 2.
One major negative on checking in put a strain on a family trip. Having chosen the hotel because we could get a disabled access Room, I was horrified to discover that the room allocated to my mum was down 3 steps in a narrow little passageway. The reception staff were unwilling to move anything around so myself and my husband had to squeeze into this very small double. While my mum had the room originally for us. She was however unable to take a shower all weekend as it was I shower o er the bath scenario. The two staff really did not care and add to this key cards that had to be reset for both rooms a couple of times each, it wasn't the best start after a four hour drive. In fairness all other staff we encountered were delightful, the food reasonably priced and plentiful. A good selection at breakfast also. If our initial encounter had been handled better the rati g would have been better
I've not stayed in this hotel for some time, the last time I did it was not a Best Western. The staff were very helpful and professional. The room was clean and tidy and everything worked as it should, the biscuits are a nice touch. A couple of minor points concerning the bathroom: why is the soap dispenser in the bath right under the shower? The soap dispenser on the basin didn't work properly and required fixing. The breakfast was good, with plenty of choice and tea or coffee brought to your table (unlike a certain other hotel chain). I didn't use the restaurant but walked in to the town for my evening meal.
It's a small hotel by modern day standards, but the staff were friendly, service was excellent and we were made to feel wellcome at every opportunity. The staff went above and beyond to assist. My room was small, a little bit tired in it's appearance, but it was immaculately cleaned. Breakfast was well worth the money and excellent quality. One could do a lot worse than book a visit to this hotel. Larger chains should take note from this hotel on how to please the customer. Well worthy of the 4 stars given.
Pleasant and quiet Hotel, tucked away just outside the Town Centre, pleased with wide-screen TV, everything else ticked the box, comfortable bed, good shower, quiet at night, food very good, I particularly liked the excellent bread, help yourself buffet at breakfast, lovely sausages and bacon, staff attentive, friendly, and courteous, no complaints whatsoever, excellent remote-controlled air-conditioning unit in rooms, but I turned it off overnight and just had windows open (July heatwave !), two car parks, the rear one is very large, would I stay again ?........most definitely!
First the positive— the rooms are well appointed , comfortable and well priced. The receptionist on arrival seemed ill trained and was very amateurish in her handling of our arrival. The outside terrace had tables stacked, overflowing cigarette stub box, unswept ground. We had a drink during the evening outside and the next day the dirty glasses were still on the table. The bar staff seemed ill trained also. Breakfast in the restaurant was fairly standard but was included in the room price. The lady in charge of the restaurant wore a disgustingly dirty and torn jacket. This was not a good look. She seemed more intent on chatting than actually supervising. Room wifi was hit and miss. Hotel was passable but staff, of which there were plenty, seemed to have had no training. Management certainly needs to train staff befitting a three star hotel of a well known hotel chain.
A very clean, friendly stay. A very relaxed atmosphere - slightly disappointing that due to a wedding there was no restaurant facility and we were not made aware of this but we took a 30 minute walk into town and had a nice meal so wasn't too bad - staff were all polite and engaging and the air con was fantastic
What a welcome relief to find a large chain hotel that have staff who cannot do enough for you. We were attending Thruxton race circuit for the weekend and found that when we booked in that breakfast on Sunday was at 08.00, we asked if it was possible to have breakfast at 07.00 as we needed to be at the venue for 08.00 to guarantee a good view and were unexpectedly told that the chef would come in early and prepare it for us. The evening meal was second to none and fantastic value for money, the chef was overwhelmed with orders as it was not expected to be busy that Saturday evening and did an awesome job of getting everyone's meals correct and out at the same time even though she was on her own in the kitchen. As for the room with it's brand new tv and air conditioning this was very clean and had plenty of room to move around. The shower was brilliant as with a lot of other hotels the pressure of the water can leave a lot to be desired but not here it was powerful. I cannot recommend this hotel enough from the friendly and helpful staff to the well laid out and comfortable rooms I will most definitely be booking it again the next time I am down that way. Keep up the good work.
Stayed here for a two night stay. Room was fine. Clean and nothing to complain about. Breakfast was great. A little disappointed that the bar closed without telling us, even though we were the only people in the bar. Chef was the star. Reception staff were dressed a little casually, tracky bottoms to be receptionist and bar staff But all in all would stay again
No frills hotel, generally clean with good facilities. The room was in need of a little detailing to keep up the appearance - rusty shower curtain and radiator in the room letting an overall good room down. What let this visit down the most was managements attitude to guests with commercial vehicles. Plenty of notices make it clear that commercial vehicles should be parked in the “far” car park. I found these notices particularly offensive as the hotel does not offer a discount for these guests or any reason why parking should not be on a first come first choice basis. So why would they ask equal guests to suffer the inconvenience of a considerable walk at the end of a busy days work when there are spaces available closer to the entrance? Clearly those “commercial driving” guests are not as welcome as guests in private vehicles who are therefore given priority! I would suggest that if that is not the type of customer you want to attract, either stop taking their money or make everyone equally welcome. Apart from the distance away from the building, the area designated for paying guests with commercial vehicles seemed frankly reflective of what the managers think of their “working guests” - somewhere to put the rubbish out of sight. See pic below with soiled mattresses and other general rubbish dumped in the same area guests are expected to park it showed poor concern for these guests comfort and welfare and creates a terrible 1st impression. The notices are visible on driving in, at reception and also in several areas in the corridors.
A good hotel for an overnight stop on the way to the west country: clean, cheerful staff, good breakfast. A bit hard to find especially late at night! The hotel is in the suburbs of Andover some way from the A303 Lots of car parking.
Great location. Room was clean meals were amazing. Staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast made a great start to the day. Car park safe and secure. Receptionist was friendly which helped after a 4 hour journey.
Nice quiet hotel. Room was clean and bed very comfy. Super quiet in the woods but a 10 minute walk into town. Easy access from major roads to and from Heathrow and Salisbury. Nice bar. Beautiful courtyard garden to sit with drinks. Good breakfast.
Having stayed there 28th-30th May, our party of 11 where all impressed with our rooms and service we had especially with getting 11 evening meals and 2 child meals, mainly all different served at the same time!!very well done indeed. The breakfast were very good with plenty of choice traditional English or Continental, and served in a very pleasant restaurant. We all arrived during the afternoon, from many directions, so it was a pity that cake or sandwiches were not available to enjoy in the rather good garden and patio area, although soft drinks or alcohol where, but as the town and shops were not too far away a short trip there for one, solved the shortage, perhaps a thought for the future. All in all a very pleasant stay to what was a busy few days as we where attending our son's wedding in Whitchurch. I read that the entrance drive is to be updated as this could be improved but did not spoil or time there.
Well located close to town centre with plenty of free parking. Free wifi too. The first impression as you approach from the drive is somewhat depressing. Something should be done to improve the untidy facade. Also the covered walkway between the main building and rooms is desperately in need of 'smartening' up. The bar / lounge area is functional, clean and tidy but not a place where you would want to linger for long. No pictures on any wall anywhere. No cushions or plants. Dining room is also somewhat bland. We only had breakfast here which was fine. These small additions could make such a difference. The rooms are again very clean and well presented. We would certainly stay here again.
My wife and I spent 7 nights in the Best Western Andover. The hotel was suitable for our needs and close to all we needed in Andover. We had a quiet room at the rear of the main building which we would certainly ask for again, albeit that a lift the the first floor for a weeks clothing and baggage would have been helpful. Parking was adequate, but more and better lit parking would be preferable. All-in-all we were very satisfied with the cleanliness of the room and the service received from all the staff. We will be coming back.
Lovely hotel, beds were very comfortable, having air con was a massive bonus. The service was fantastic, very clean and couldn't hear any noise. Only downside is the shower dispensers don't work very well. It took me along time to get enough hair and body stuff out of the dispenser.
Stayed in this hotel for one night. I found this hotel is value for money, Excellent staff. A good nights sleep in the most comfortable bed. Very quite hotel as its just outside of Andover, breakfast was excellent eat as much as one could plenty of choices.I would rate this hotel 10/10 very good.
Stayed overnight in a twin room (214 I think). It was in mint condition - all the fittings looked new and room was spotlessly clean. Plenty of space to move around the room, and armchair and a desk too. Beds were very comfortable and again, linens looked new. Tea and coffee plus mineral water available in the room, and a gigantic TV! Really, an excellent room for the price paid. We didn't use the bar or restaurant, but the reception staff were pleasant and professional. Would definitely recommend on the basis of the room we stayed in.
Booked 6 months ago when hotel was a different brand, was told 6 months later that my card had expired and room wasn't paid for. Then was called again to be told the same. Got there early and met lily who sorted everything and upgraded room. Room very hot, used air con but heating still on. Ate in the evening, good choice, great value for money. Mentioned the heat again but kept being told heating was off. 1 radiator off in room other boiling. Had to get “handy man” in. Breakfast was lovely, good choice, fresh and hot. Asked at 1.30 for a sandwich, receptionist wasn't happy, explained I couldn't go till 6pm with no food. Told me to come back in 15 mins which I did. She told me she had asked the chef and she pulled a face. Menus all still out offering food. Could hear comments being made as they were all preparing for wedding, ( I was attending too but there were guests there that wasn't!) guests were confused as menus were still out. I offered to go to Asda but was told just to wait. Hotel prices were about average, food at reception was exceptional. Breakfast next morning not as good, as more people turning up... not offered toast or eggs like the day before. Came to check out and was told my room still hadn't been paid for (which it had!) tried to say I had room service and drinks on bill but they had the wrong room again. On the whole, great location, done the job.
Arrived to be told that there were issues with the plumbing and advised not to drink the tap water. When we asked about dining we were told that the hotel was not serving food that evening. We had not been made aware of either of these issues in advance of our arrival. Room very tired and unloved. Cleaning of room and bathroom poor. Bed comfortable. The room that we occupied really needed a total overhaul.
Fine overnight stop. Comfy room, fantastically powerful shower!! Well served all-in mega- brekkie ...great price! Will visit again Highly recommended for convenience, comfort, attentive service, and good value for money!
Rooms within the main building could use a small upgrade and to sort out the staff area as this is not a very nice view. Staff were all lovely, Mary at breakfast and Lily on reception both very friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
What a lovely hotel, staff very friendly can't do enough for you especially Kayleigh she was excellent. Food was excellent, had three course evening meal and breakfast the following morning. No complaints whatsoever. The room was lovely again no complaints. In fact if myself and my husband are in the area we would not hesitate to book a room here. We were with an organised coach trip so the staff were very busy but very friendly.
Called the day before to request an early check in due to specific circumstances. Lily arranged this without a fuss and greeted warmly by her on arrival. Room had a very comfortable bed, new bathroom furniture but needs some attention to stained ceiling and sealant round the bath However it was incredibly clean. Breakfast was one of the best I have had.anywhere. Freshly cooked with best quality bacon and lots of it too! Served by Zorka and Mary who could not do enough to ensure I enjoyed it and my visits to the bar too! Nice chat with Liam as I checked out early at the end of my two days stay.
My wife and I have just returned from a three nights' stay; I think we were the only (elderly!) couple there. The remainder of the guests seemed to be contractors' men or business people. The hotel is situated close to Thruxton motor-racing circuit. It is superbly geared to these markets. The lounges adjacent to the bars are by some standards quite spartan, but clearly aimed at providing plenty of suitable accommodation for those taking the most excellent bar meals. Thus, one does not have the feeling of being prematurely thrust into a retirement home! The young ladies serving at the bar and at breakfast are delightful, and each member of staff we met was very friendly. The comprehensive breakfasts lean very much towards the 'full English', again very suited to the clientele we noted. Our room, in the annexe, was warm, clean, comfortable, and spacious, as was the en-suite. There is excellent walking to be had close at hand, and the town of Andover is about ten minutes walk away. The cost of our stay, including evening bar meals and drinks, was unbelievably low. A very welcome addition to the Best Western umbrella.
Great food and lovely staff, a fantastic night. Highly recommend. Thank you to Seb and Kayleigh for a wonderful night. Music romantic, set the scene. See you again soon can't wait for our next visit. Spencer and Sue??????
I was staying in Andover on business, at another hotel in the area. On Wednesday 24th Jan after working until shortly before midnight I found I was locked out of my hotel, and nobody was there to let me in and nobody was answering the phone. It was a cold night and I was tired so just needed to find somewhere warm and to sleep ASAP. I had a look online for hotels in the area and found the Best Western Andover. I called them at 00:05 to see if they had any rooms, and Jonathan answered. He said they just had one cleaned and ready to go. He booked me in and said he'd have it ready for when I arrived. When I got there he checked me in, sympathised with me, pointed me towards the free WiFi code, and even lent me his phone charger for the night since my phone had ran out of battery and my own charger was locked in another hotel miles away. Because I was checking in after midnight, he couldn't use his payment system to authorise my card for the night's stay, so he made a call to his manager at 00:30, waking him up to ensure I could get this room and stay for the night, and finally he even somehow managed to get me a bit of discount off the room price he'd quoted to me on the phone half an hour earlier! Literally some of the best service I have ever received, from the moment I called the Best Western everything went so smoothly and I couldn't have asked for more. THANK YOU JONATHAN for saving my skin that night!! All other staff I encountered at the hotel were similarly helpful and nice, and it left me with a hugely positive impression of the place. Hotel itself was nice and clean, if a little tired, but for the price I paid and service I got I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again and again. Thanks.
We used this as a stopover on our way to cornwall and for one night it was adequate but it didn't leave us with a memory that would entice us to stay longer. The room was perfectly acceptable but overall the hotel needed to up it's professionalism. The restaurant was good enough to not bother going out for a meal but little sign that they attracted walk in custom. The room had all you expect and the bed was comfortable. Lastly, it was very difficult to locate even using the post code and satnav.
We have spent two nights here while visiting family and friends, wasn't that easy to find but satnav came in very handy! Room is warm, clean and comfortable and bathroom was ok too, powerful shower... Breakfast was very good, all you need and hot... Staff were really good, friendly and nothing was too much bother at all, Yes I would recommend this hotel every time.....
The Best Western at Andover had everything that we required and more, especially for a budget hotel. The staff here were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they were really friendly. The rooms themselves are very clean and well kept. The bed was comfortable, both my partner and I slept extremely well. This was helped by the fact that the hotel is in a very quiet area, so is very relaxing. The highlight of the trip was the breakfast, it was absolutely superb and probably the best breakfast I have ever had at a hotel (including establishments which are far more expensive).
Joe and I stayed at Best Western Andover one night recently on business The satellite navigation lead us straight to the hotel and upon arrival we were warmly welcomed The route to our room was via a covered walk way and upon some stairs The room was clean and tidy albeit basic. The one luxury was air con , no doubt welcome in summer months Noisy neighbours weren't the hotels fault but albeit not welcome Breakfast was fine and £79 bill was very reasonable Absolutely fine for the business traveler looking for somewhere to lay their head
Andover is probably never going to be one of the world's top tourist destinations, but if you have reason to want to stay in Andover, then this hotel does the job nicely. It's not right in the centre of Andover, but it's walking distance of the centre. No more than about a 15 minute walk. It's a nice quiet location and I certainly wasn't bothered by any noise at night. Free parking too. My bedroom (an executive room) was a generous size and comfortable enough. The bathroom looked a bit dated, but everything worked and was clean, so that was no real problem. The staff were friendly. I certainly was made to feel very welcome having a drink in the bar. Breakfast was good. A rather limited cold buffet, but a very nice hot buffet, so if you like a nice big cooked breakfast, you won't be disappointed.
We attended the best western for our Christmas lunch in December. The hotel itself is very run down and is in desperate need of renovation. The staff do provide a good service and it's probably this reason alone that the hotel is still open. The room where the function was held had no decorations up at all and there was no Christmas atmosphere at all. The food was served swiftly but very disappointed in the food because although we'd paid around £19 for 3 courses it was clearly frozen out of the bag, no taste and the majority of us left it. I didn't stay overnight so unable to comment on the accommodation but if the food is anything to go by I'm glad I didn't. All in all, would I stay/return to this hotel, no! There are other hotels of similar price that provide a lot better food in a building that isn't filled with cobwebs and falling apart.
Stayed here for 1 night, booked and executive room and got room 103. Room was large, had an interesting architectural feature. Clearly this was the original entrance to the house because the original porch is located in the room, don't walk into the columns if you get up in the night, lol. Bed was comfortable and we both slept well.I would describe the decoration as spartan, no pictures, colour scheme white. Bathroom was spacious, however my pet hate shower over bath, not a small person so i end up attached to the show curtain, heated towel rail wasn't working, could do with deep cleaning and modernising. Breakfast was good, cooked to order. We will be back.
Hotel staff couldn't be more helpful. Breakfast enjoyable. 'Executive' rooms in main block very comfortable and quiet. However, we were originally booked into room 233 as part of a coach company trip. This is over the function room and watching tv or sleeping were impossible until the music at the function stopped. This would have affected many of the neighbouring rooms in the 'new' wing. Staff happy to move us into an upgrade room near Reception which was fortunately vacant. If booking and if you want to sleep before midnight check whether functions are taking place.
Stayed here bonfire night happy chap tom on reception had a really good room 101 large and big comfy bed. Not many guests so only bar menu. But home made burger was excellent chef knows what she is doing. Breakfast was excellent served by charming Mary. Definitely come back if in area
It was a pleasure to stay in this hotel. The rooms are very good, the internet wifi does not work very well in the room. The breakfast is very good. The hotel is a bit far from the center but it worth it.
Visit was very nice. The hotel was very nice clean n tidy. Our room was very nice, warm n clean. My mother in law lives in Andover and we alway take her Christmas shopping but she doesn't have enough room for us to stay so my daughter and I stayed at hotel. The hotel is friendly. The evening porter was very helpful n friendly. We checked on Sunday morning friendly receptionist. Then I had a phone call from hotel letting me know that I had left two jumpers behind. So next time we visit Andover we may stay there again
Stayed on a Friday and Saturday night in October 2017 as we were attending a local wedding on Saturday. Not knowing the area this appeared to be the closest hotel to the wedding venue. Finding the hotel is straightforward on the outskirts of Andover. Initial reaction on approaching the hotel was that it looks quite dated but has a good amount of parking spaces. Booking in was easy and first impressions on the walk to the room and the room itself was this hotel had seen better times and was possibly struggling to keep up to date. However, the room was clean and warm and quite adequate for our needs. The hot breakfast on Saturday was cooked to order and on Sunday the hot breakfast was buffet style. There was a small range of cereals in little individual boxes and pots of marmalade and honey available. A pot of yoghurt my wife chose was past it eat by date and had gone off but was changed without fuss. The room was not cleaned or the bed made on Saturday but new towels were provided and the old ones left in the room. All in all a reasonable stay that suited our needs and was what we would have expected for the price we paid.
The reception staff were helpful and polite which is why they are getting two stars not just one. This place is not what I would expect from a Best Western Hotel sadly. The room was okay ish, small and everything worked but I have never slept in such an uncomfortable bed. That and the fact that whenever the upstairs room or next doors bathroom was used it was so loud. I mean loud enough to wake you. The walls were so thin I could hear the conversation and the guy snoring next door all night ! Wifi was very poor and the condiments in the room were not refilled daily. One pack of biscuits on the first day at check in but that's it for the week. They are obviously a one off gift at arrival ! The tea and coffee weren't replaced completely each day either which I think isn't much to ask for. I have stayed here twice in the past six weeks on business and thought the second time that I'd give the place the benefit of the doubt as I did consider cancelling. However it was the same the second time around too. I have no intention on making it three times though.
Without clear instructions this hotel is a little on the difficult side to locate. Our sat nav sent us through a housing estate nearby. The approach road is very dark so exercise caution.Car parking spaces are sufficient but again exercise caution when entering the reception area as there is a bit of a step that my wife stumbled on.We were greeted at reception and verbally shown to our room 207 which is up a couple of flights of stairs. On entry it became very apparent that our room had several items missing as that were listed on our booking confirmation....a room safe,a telephone, the air conditioning control which was on all night,no wake up/service alarm clock, water bottle,no free toiletries(only the push units on the bathroom wall which were listed). Also the shower button on the mixer taps did not work so a bath was the only choice...the toilet took a few flushes and still did not clear.Breakfast was fine and on our exits we pointed these problems out to reception....Best Western have certainly gone down hill in standards...we use to stay regularly at other hotels.....other chains are leaving you behind....time to pick your game up.Visited Oct 28th 2017
Nice hotel comfortable and basic. Tea and coffee facilities but no water. Very warm rooms and restaurant serves good food. Best of all was ryan in the restaurant. He is a credit to Best Western. QUICK. POLITE KIND.WELL MANNETED AND FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. I WANTED FOR NOTHING.GREAT GUY
I stayed here prior to this visit when it was running under an alternative brand. I am incredibly impressed with the transformation! On my last visit I almost slept in the car due to the umpteen spiders in the room, dated/broken fittings, paper thin walls and resembled something out of Amityville! .... On this occasion however, as a Best Western, the difference is unreal! The room was modernised, comfortable and warm. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming and seemingly proud which was lovely to see. I unfortunately missed breakfast due to having to leave before serving but I'm sure I would not have been disappointed. Signage is obvious now although the lane upto the hotel is narrow. My only criticism is the overflow parking as when I arrived this was incredibly dark and away from any street lighting .. perhaps extra floodlighting could be added? All in all a very comfortable stay and I would certainly pay a visit again :)
Booked in here on Monday for a 2 night stay, while I was on a course. Booking in was easy, left my things here while I went for a wander around town. Room was very clean, and good standard in bathroom. I did not eat in the restaurant, apart from breakfast, which was very nice. Internet reception is poor, but that could be an area thing too. Hotel is a bit of a walk from the town centre , so if you like exercise, you will enjoy the walk back up Micheldever road, to get back to the hotel!
Hotel looks tired from the outside, doesn't look very welcoming. Few car parking spaces but not loads. The receptionist was kind enough and told us what we needed to know. Hotel was extremely noisy at night!! Must have been some kind of party going on somewhere, very loud music and people shouting outside of the room!!! Very annoying and not what you expect of a hotel like this!!!! Room is very basic, I would say over priced for what you get. Not up to the standards of a Premier inn or Travel Lodge. I would not return to this hotel, purely because of the noise at night which seemed to go on for hours and drunken people shouting in the car park and corridor of hotel.
This is such a wonderful hotel, its situated in such a peaceful area although only a stones throw from the town centre. The staff are attentive and obviously care greatly to make sure you have a pleasant stay, the rooms are comfortable and have all the mod cons needed for any stay. The food was excellent and plentiful. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.
One night was probably enough I reckon. In reverse order, the breakfast was very nice and although a bit of a rush due to our wonky timing, much better than dinner. Dinner was poor to be fair, cold chicken satay starters, fillet steak hopeless, Eton mess pudding hardly any meringue and a new waiter who held the top of every glass. Steak taken off the bill. My mate said his chicken main was ok. Banister rail came off in my hand, room clean and ok, radiator permanently on! Very noisy plumbing, bed comfy, walls thin. The staff were a pleasant bunch. The public rooms need some investment as does the exterior. Support and training from HQ almost certainly in short supply.
Stayed overnight just to break our journey to Dorset. Lovely clean room with everything we needed. Evening menu not extensive but ok, maybe would be better on a weekend. Breakfast good quality and plenty of choices. Corridor to room was a little tired but as the hotel has only just been taken over by Best Western I would hope this will improve in time. Staff (David. Nicola and Ryan) were very pleasant, charming and helpful - nice to be met with a smile. Not sure if we approached the hotel from the wrong side of Andover but would never have found it without a satnav
I have been staying at this hotel for 2 -3 days every September for the past 7 -8 years for a fishing trip - recently taken over by Best Western. All new staff who were all friendly and helpful - some were struggling with what looked to be a new computer system but in good humour - the staff make hotels and everyone here is a credit to the hotel chain. This is the only place that I stay alone and I never feel "out of place" here - the bar area has been redecorated since my last visit and is a pleasant room for a bar meal and a few drinks. The food is improved since the takeover - breakfast offers plenty of choice for a traditional cooked breakfast or something lighter - good choice on the evening menu. Located close to my fishing and just off the motorway / dual carriageway and easy to get to - plenty of on site parking. Everything for my needs on one site - Will be back same time next year. Steve Shannon.
This was a girls weekend away. Room was clean, tidy and the breakfast was very yummy. The staff struggled to keep up with the demand during breakfast at times but maybe we just went down at peak time. Great stay and reasonable priced. Would stay again.
on first arriving you go up a narrow driveway on the right hand side to the hotel . There is very limited car parking spaces outside the main entrance .but to the right there is further parking but in my opinion it does not look as safe as the spaces outside the reception.. staff were helpful and friendly through out our stay and do multiple jobs within the hotel . breakfast was nice and evening meals were lovely although it says restaurant it is actually the same room were you have breakfast. all in all a nice pleasant hotel . There was a wedding reception on the sat night when we stayed but it the noise was minimal and did not affect are stay
Arrived Friday evening after a long day. Our room was up 2 flights of stairs and no lift available. Staff friendly but slow serving in restaurant. Only restaurant I have ever been in which my food was served 15 mins before my partners turned up and his was so hot he had to wait for it to cool down enough to eat. Seemed like solo dining. They did provide a fair take away snack for breakfast as we had to be away early in the morning.
We stayed here for one night to break up a journey with our 2yr old daughter. On arrival I was worried we had made the wrong choice as the outside is quite tired, but the staff were great and the room was fine. If you want luxury and treats this is not the place for you, if you want a practical place to stay then you will be happy. We didnt have any food here, short but steep walk into town with plenty of food options.
Fantastic day all round. Exceptional staff professional and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. The manager looked after me the night before as well as my bridesmaids. I didn't have to worry about anything. The ceremony and reception were beautiful. I can't recommend highly enough. A perfect day without any stress.
Great value for money.. Great location to be close to Carfest-Laverstoke.. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly.. Best breakfast ever.. Definitely would go back.. Hotel is currently under renovation but despite this still a lovely stay with a great welcome
Crashed here for a night on route to Torquay - efficient check in, nice quiet rooms, very comfortable bed. Shower was super powerful, temperature did change a little but never to the extent that I had to step out of the shower. Did find a little difficult to find as we arrived in the dark and thought we'd taken a wrong turn down a residential road but all good! Breakfast was really nice as well, a very good place overall and for a great price.
Quiet location and a rather nice view from the hillside position . Arrived for a work weekend at the Leckford Festival on Saturday afternoon . My room was in the annexe and as I staying on my own I felt a unsure about staying . Asked reception if there was a room in the main house but due to a Wedding and the festival they were fully booked .Sarah Jane the newly appointed Manager came to my rescue and couldn't have been more understanding and found me a lovely room . 10/10 Sarah Jane ! I will be back and thanks again .
We stayed here for one night on the way to cornwall. We checked in which was fine but when got into our room the 2nd bed wasn't made up,but to be far they quickly sorted out this problem. We had dinner in the restaurant and I thought the food was really nice. After the meal we went back to the room and by this time my boy was absolutely shattered and went to sleep straight away.Excellent or so we thought.Me and the wife didn't sleep very well cause there was a party going on and the end of the hallway through some doors. It seems like the function room is right where the family rooms are.The breakfast was nice in the morning but had to wait for eggs and the toast was not toast but warm bread, needed to be left in the toaster for longer.
Lovely place to stay and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and basics are supplied. Dinner was yum and I've heard the breakfasts are just as good. Went for a quick walk behind the motel where there is walking tracks that are beautiful, wish I had more time to explore these. Would definitely recommend this place to others.
Really lovely hotel, room (102) was spacious with everything you need or want. Stayed on the Tuesday night, short walk to the town although up a bit of a hill on the way back, there looked some nice places to eat in the town with plenty of variety. I eat in the hotel restaurant and I am so glad I did the food was AMAZING! Salmon to start with avocado and poached egg, fillet steak with all the trimmings followed by cheesecake yum yum!!! Food was not rushed at all every course was served perfectly. Two great waitresses in the restaurant special mention to "Nicola" she was so funny and friendly! A real GEM! Breakfast was fine no frills but you could choose which eggs you preferred and freshly made porridge was on offer. Fish at a supplement. Bottled water x 2 in the room with a big comfy bed and very quiet surroundings. Small quiet bar area with places to chill. Reception staff in the evening were welcoming and helpful. Guy in morning on check out (think his name was Dave) was as miserable as sin and never said one word to me!! Lots of free parking. Air con in the room but I'm not a fan! Would I stay again? Absolutely! Eat in the restaurant? Definitely! See you next time and thank you !!
Very pleasant stay. Firm mattress suited us and the recent refurbishment, made it feel like a modern hotel. Only had breakfast during our stay, but it had good choice and definitely set us up for the day.
I stayed at this hotel several months ago when it was called the Quality Hotel and it was only OK. The hotel has been revamped and it is now a pleasant place to be. I booked a double room at very short notice. Not a problem and very reasonable rates. The rooms, bar and restaurant area have all been redecorated and refreshed. The room was very clean with aircon, toiletries and tea/coffee facilities. A reasonably priced bar, good food and pleasant staff made for an enjoyable stay. The Premier Inn has been my choice of hotel when staying in Andover. That first choice may now have changed.
Really very pleased. Nicola & her team really do go above and beyond to please the guests. Thank you for making us so welcome. We mentioned we wouldn't make breakfast and we're given a doggy bag with snacks, fruit, chocolate & bottled water. I was very impressed. Food order upon arrival was very quick & we enjoyed our food.
Lovely hotel friendly reception staff who were happy to give directions to town which is a few minutes drive, you can walk it but the hotel is up a hill,so perhaps not suitable for all, Added bonus of air conditioning in room as it was a warm weekend, breakfast was a Buffet and very nice, there's a big car park that did get quite full, but an overflow at the back there's a nice garden too
Very comfortable stay, booked a twin room as thought weather might be too warm for a double bed in July. Food excellent and plenty of it. Only problem of a wobbly loo seat fixed the same day. Glasses from bar drinks the previous night not cleared the next day and cups not washed from morning coffee but it was a Sunday so thought maybe short staffed?
This is a nice place. Visit at height of Summer so nice to have Aircon in every room. Staff friendly and room spacious. Nice breakfast!. Good location and all in all a very enjoyable place to stay. I remember the evening meal being pretty good. I will return.
The hotel is fine as a basic budget hotel and the room was comfortable however I had paid for an executive king room wanting the extra space but was only given a normal room which didn't cross my mind at the time. Recently redecorated the hotel and room were clean and fresh but there are no pictures or anything anywhere with all the walls being plain magnolia, which felt like sleeping in a slightly upmarket cell. Reception staff were helpful and friendly.
There was nothing wrong with the hotel as a basic place to stay. However although bed and breakfast was clearly stated on the booking with Hotels.com the hotel said this was a mistake and no breakfast was included. They intimated that this was a frequent mistake made by online booking agents. Not a good start! Things got worse on the second day of our stay when a man tried to walk into our room at 8.45 am. He was very apologetic but said reception had given him a key. When I mentioned this at reception when checking out the receptionist apologised but said she had given the man a key because he wanted to leave something in the room early before he used the room that evening. She warned him not to use the key until the other guests, us, had left. If we had been out having breakfast he could have entered our room and taken our belongings. When I pointed this out to the receptionist I got another apology. But this is seriously bad practice. I wonder if this has happened before.
Quaint place away from the city and busy roads. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant to talk to. The room was spacious with a large bathroom that had a nice window to open for the shower steam. The breakfast was large. We had to ask for toast with our eggs and they were glad to bring it from the kitchen. The bar and waiting area is spacious as well. We had trouble printing tickets from their newly upgraded computer so we sent the clerk an email and he printed them from the desk. The many paths leading from the hotel to parts of the city are great to hike and exercise on.
Great little hotel. Good value for money. Good rooms with a/c gas heating. Wonderful full English breakfast. Would definitely stay again. Free car park. Clean room. Adequate bath facilities. Cannot complain about a thing
Hotel has Great, just been refurbished Air conditioning in the rooms, great Breakfast in the morning 10 out 10. hotel central to town but up a very quiet road, so was not disturbed by the traffic. Andy Ingram
I stayed here for 4 nights. The room was spacious enough. The only issues i had in the room were u had to put a deposit down for the air con remote which i found strange and the other was the coffee and milk was not re-stocked each day and you had to request for more. The food at the hotel was nice but it did get busy in the bar and when i tried to go in the restaurant i was told i had to book which wasnt mentioned at check in. The staff were very friendly and very apologetic even if you were waiting 30seconds to be served. Overall a good stay for the centre of Andover
After a long plane trip followed by a long drive, we didn't arrive until later in the evening for a one night stop over. And what a pleasant surprise! Accessed via a tree filled driveway leading to the (free) car park, this hotel has a lovely character. The welcome was extremely warm and caring and we immediately felt at home. (We even commented that we preferred the vibe over a six star hotel we had stayed in recently). The room was clean spacious and comfortable and the breakfast the next day while I feel could be improved a bit in terms of more options, was delivered by staff with sunny smiles. A few days later, I received an email advising we had left a top there which Gayle a) had realised was ours and b) kindly sent in the mail, thus saving so much time. Obviously this is not a five star hotel but I gave it five stars for the lovely staff culture, the most important factor in any establishment. Thank you.
The hotel has been refurbished and this has been done very well. The bar, lounge and restaurant are lovely. The food is amazing, this is a proper restaurant not some pub or chips with everything type - it is really lovingly prepared by a proper chef and you can taste the difference. The staff are really nice on reception the bar, restaurant, etc. Highly recommended for business, couples, families. very pretty setting and a short walk to the town centre. Everything is fresh and new.
A friend has been staying here for 4 days and we had dinner in the hotel with her. The food was excellent. I had Tiger Prawn Rissotto, hubby had Venison and friend had Fillet Steak. Absolutely divine food and service. The hotel has had a complete refurb and all the public areas were lovely. My friend said the room was lovely and the breakfast very good. They have an excellent function room with its own bar, beautifully laid out. The hotel is really close to town but on the edge of Ladies Walk, so surrounded by trees and woods yet a 10 minute walk into the town centre where there are restaurants, bars, coffee shops and shops. Highly recommended.
Stayed here overnight as attending a function at the hotel, room was clean and had everything we needed and the bed was very comfy ( always a plus point with me) all the staff we interacted with were professional but friendly and breakfast was very good on the Sunday morning, would not hesitate to stay again if I'm the area.
Nice grounds and secluded location but distant form facilities in town so a bit stuck up the hill from Andover if you want to shop etc there's nothing around the hotel. Nice clean functional rooms with air con and decent bar and restaurants but service with a smile its not. The staff constantly reviewing and discussing how this are done out loud at reception that you can hear the full discussions in the bar and moaning about the changes since best western took over with constants working in guest areas it all seems very much a work in progress that seems to have taken over the operation of the hotel as oppossed to looking after guests. Breakfast was very nice but revealed a hotel full of workmen and adds to the confusion as to what this hotel is trying to be. I suspect once all the changes are in place things will be better but for now it a pleasant enough hotel and ok for the odd night. Food was reasonable too.
I had a three night stay with my disabled parents. They were in the Universal accessible room, and me in a single. Both rooms were spotlessly clean, great size, well prepared, and had everything you would expect. Iron, hairdrier, Tea / coffee facilities. Air Con. The accessible room had a bathroom with all safety rails that you would want. Staff were very friendly, and the restaurant served very good food. Breakfast was as good as you would want. Full English or continental options. Would highly reccomend
