BEST WESTERN Old Colony Inn,Alexandria

« Good for the price »

Front desk staff was nice, room was clean, though it did not have a microwave snack center had a microwave that could be used 24/7. Breakfast was great. Fresh food, cereals, eggs, yogurt and juices. Small quaint hotel, not the fanciest but the name describes it. For the price couldn't have asked for better.

« Great option to see DC »

I have 3 criteria I use to judge lodging. Bed, shower, and coffee. Best Western Old Colony Inn was excellent on all three! We both slept GREAT! Sometimes hotel beds SEEM comfortable at first, but once you are in there for a while, you toss and turn, and wake-up all night...not here. The shower was hot with good pressure and the breakfast (included) was really very good, with lots of options for the picky eater. The coffee was great, nice strength, nice flavor. There was a shuttle available to take you to the metro, or King Street, and a couple other locations. The staff, including the shuttle drivers (we had two) were so friendly and accommodating. The price was very reasonable. I also wanted free parking and free Wi-fi, which was included. Yes, it's an older hotel, but it was clean, and well maintained. My only complaint was that the Wi-fi was a bit temperamental. We had to go out to the lobby to use it at one point. Not critical for us, but something to consider if it's important to you.

« Good service - could use some updates »

I stayed here for one night before a flight. If you have a morning flight, you'll need to find your own transportation as their shuttle service starts at 7 am and ends at 9 pm. The service was great, but the rooms could use some updates. The beds were comfortable, but it would have been nice if the room was a bit more modernized.

« My place to visit »

My go too spot. They always provide excellent service. They provide a shuttle for my interests in downtown; the driver was super and when I want to return back to the Inn, I just call for pickup...wonderful. And they have free parking. How good is that??? Bathroom needs some updating.

    « Affordable option »

Stayed at this Best Western recently on a business trip. I was pleasantly surprised. For an older hotel, this was very clean and had an excellent staff to help. It was close to the King St. area, so dinner options were nearby. Plenty of parking on site.

« Hidden Gem in Old Town Alexandria Virginia »

Excellent shuttle service to and from DCA and the metro subway system. Hot, all you can eat, breakfast every morning, assorted items. Clean rooms and great beds. Staff exceptional. Within walking distance to many stores, restaurants, and historic sites in old town Alexandria. A hidden gem waiting for you to discover it.

    « Great Location & Breakfast »

Excellent location - literally 5/10 minutes from Reagan Airport. Hotel has a courtesy shuttle that can take you to and from the airport as well as to the Metro Station and to downtown Alexandria. Breakfast is excellent - lots of choices (eggs, sausage, pastries, waffles, cereal). Hotel front desk was very helpful and friendly. All in all, a great little hotel.

    « A pleasant surprise »

We stayed here on our last night in the US, not wanting to be in Washington & to be fairly handy for Dulles. The staff were all most accommodating & there was a sense of pride in this hotel. We availed of the courtesy bus into old town Alexandria which is charming & enjoyed a meal in The Wharf. Clearly, for the price, this is not high end, but we found it to be a lovely, friendly hotel. Free parking was a bonus!

« Pleasant stay in Alexandria »

Old Colony Inn offered a pleasant stay. All the staff including the shuttle bus drivers were polite, nice, and very helpful. They all dressed and performed their duties in a professional manner. The room was nicely decorated, clean, and the temperature was easily adjusted. The location is perfect for visiting Old Alexandria and Washington D.C. Breakfast was good! We loved the bed--very comfortable.

    « Great value »

The hotel is quiet and in a residential area although very close to the main artery in and out of Alexandria. There is a shuttle that will take you to the airport and in to Old Town. Free parking in this area is an added bonus. Would have stayed here on our return to the area but it was already booked.

« GREAT Park, Stay and Fly Location »

Everyone at this hotel makes you feel welcome and accommodating. I met 3 different front desk staff - all were exceptional. Free shuttle to and from Reagan International and both drivers went out of their way for me. It's a must use location if you are flying out and need a hotel room before or after and a place to park your car. Don't forget the full free breakfast that comes with the room. And for all this, you get some of the best rates around.

« Good Place close to National Airport and DC »

Basic Motel, but clean and quiet. Lots of parking, and I presume it is free which is unusual so close to DC. They offer a free shuttle to National Airport and to Metro Stations. Shuttle driver offered to stop for me to pick up a beer on the way over, but I declined.

« Outstanding service at a reasonable price »

The accommodations were clean and serviceable, the price (for the area) was excellent, and the staff was exceptional. Had seen several reviews that were critical of the rooms but they seem to have been refurbished recently and were in good condition. The staff was, without exception, very friendly, courteous, and helpful. They made our stay a pleasure.

« Great vintage hotel for the price »

I paid just over $310 for three nights in this hotel during a peak weekend (NAAMHC opening). Other hotels were $150-$250 more for the same days. I was close to a Metro train station and close to stores & restaurants, all within walking distance (<= 15 minute walk). I would improve on the breakfast items, but would stay here again. The hotel staff called a cab for my early Sunday morning flight out of DCA & the cab arrived within 5 minutes.

    « Great family lodging »

Clean, tidy and good sized rooms for a family vacation. Excellent breakfast to start a family for a day of sight seeing. Good location from DCA. They have shuttle service to DCA as well as the Metro and King Street. Staff was extremely solicitous. I very my enjoyed my stay.

    « Clean,Comfortable and Great Location »

We recently stayed 2 nights at this hotel. It was our second stay. Its location is close to the metro and Old Town Alexandra with great shopping and restaurants. They have a complimentary shuttle service to anywhere in the area that you need to go. Breakfast was good. Rooms clean. Price is reasonable.

« A dated hotel w/ no elevator in great location »

This was the perfect place for visiting Washington DC. We were there on Labor Day so, contrary to what I expected, parking in DC was not a problem. With the added help of a handicap permit we got to see everything we wanted in one full day. I say this because we left a day earlier than planned and We never took advantage of the hotel shuttle. It is available to take you to restaurants or to the metro if you don't want to drive to DC. And we saw the shuttle there whenever we passed through the parking lot. We were told the driver is on call, just call the hotel and he will meet you. As for the hotel, don't expect glamour or luxury. It is an old building and the breakfast area is in the basement with no windows or view to the outside. There is an area off the lobby to buy drinks and snacks and freezer in the corridor with quart size bags of ice. I found it humorous that it was labeled "ice machine". If you can look past this, the hotel is clean. The staff us very welcoming and ready to help with any advice you may need. And the rate is very good considering it is in the midst of a very nice residential area.

    « Very Nice! »

Free airport shuttle that you have to call for. And the shuttle will take you to other locations, within 3 miles, on a half hour schedule. The hotel has no elevator. The room had a little fridge and microwave, ironing board. Nice front desk staff. A few blocks from the hotel is a bike trail along the water for jogging.-- although the trail is less than contiguous. It was still good for a run. Best of all it was quiet when I was there.

    « excellent hotel, staff »

most accommodating and helpful. The hotel shuttle was most useful. they were available to get to the Metro and pickup. Also for getting to King Street in Old Alexandria and pick up from there later before nine o'clock

    « Great Service & Location »

This was a surprisingly good experience, good hotel and location. Ideally situated in charming Alexandria. Service was excellent and decor was clean. Will stay here again when I am in D.C. area. Highly recommend to friends and family.

« Charm outside disappointment inside »

Good location and charming exterior and lobby, but the guest room, while clean, was coming apart. This hotel is in need of serious renovation. Bathroom especially. Water did not turn off all the way, paint was literally peeling off the ceiling and onto my head, mold/mildew growing where the paint was peeling. The resurfacing material used on the tile was peeling off, the door was rusted beyond belief. The bed was comfortable and clean, but that' all that can be said.

« Great Location, Great Service »

This has been one of our favorite hotels for many years. Ownership changes have changed the atmosphere of The Old Colony Inn, but it is still a a favorite of ours. The elevator was broken preventing us from having breakfast and using the business center. The excellent staff did all they could to mitigate this inconvenience. We look forward to staying here after their upcoming renovation

    « close to DC »

Best Western,Alex. was clean, comfortable, helpful. Tip: It's not visible from GW Parkway, but when going north on the Parkway, just past downtown Alex.,an exit for an access rd. takes you to it. audio GPS will get you there

    « A good solid Best Western »

Very convenient to DC and The Regan Airport. Plus good restaurants nearby in Alexandria. Older but well maintained property very good staff, helpful and friendly. The location, along Washington St leads directly to the GW Parkway a major route, so the location could not be better.

    « Disappointing »

I was looking forward to our stay since the pictures and many of the reviews were positive but unfortunately I felt this hotel was disappointing. On the positive side, the staff was professional and helpful. Check in/out was efficient. And we appreciated the free parking and shuttle service. We were on the second floor and while lugging all our stuff up the steps was very inconvenient, we did not experience any of the noise others have mentioned. On the negative side, while the outside of the hotel looks charming, the rooms are in sad disrepair and require an overhaul. The bed linens were ripped, areas of the wall were badly plastered and crumbling, the shower did not drain and the shower head was a mess. I felt the mattress was very uncomfortable. The Internet service was very slow. I have stayed at similar hotels in other cities and have typically been satisfied but this one just didn't work out.

    « Great location to visit D.C. »

We were very pleased with the comfort of our room. Everything was clean and well-stocked. The staff were all extremely helpful. The complementary shuttle service was incredibly convenient and prompt. It really made the quaint downtown and the nearby train station incredibly accessible. All of the shuttle drivers were great, but Sean went out of his to be warm and engaging. I would certainly recommend this property and I would stay there again.

    « Pretty Good »

We stayed for 6 nights in Alexandria so that we could go to Washington, DC. Our experience was pretty good. We had a wonderful breakfast every morning, comfortable beds, refrigerator in room, nice selection of channels on the TV for our kids and very friendly staff. The best part for us was that we did not have to drive anywhere. The hotel provided us a free shuttle service to the airport or Braddock St metro station every day until 9 pm. The overall experience was pretty good. We will definitely consider returning next time we are in the area. Two of the staff members that I would like to give a shout out to is Mary and Rashea. Thanks and keep up the good work.

« Keep up the good work! »

Rev. Butler and I would like to thank the staff of Old Colony Inn for making our 45th Marriage anniversary very special, our three day stay from July 15 to July 17 was great. The front desk clerk Keeva McCoy made sure we were place in a safe handicap room with a safe bathroom with hand-bars around the bathtub. Mary Scott the breakfast cook and hostess made us feel good early in the morning with her positive greetings and warm friendly attitude. We could see she loved cooking and sharing her good food with others. I felt like Mary was having friends over for breakfast rather then just doing a job. Keep up the good work Mary and your staff members. We loved your sausage gravy biscuits. All of staff members were also great, friendly, helpful and kind. Sincerely, Rev Willie and Diane Butler Lynchburg, VA

« Perfect for daily trip to D.C. and great dinner and shopping in the evening »

Quiet location with helpful and friendly staff. Spent 4 nights in a great room with comfortable mattresses. Free parking, free shuttle to Reagan Airport, trains and Downtown Alexandria. 15 minutes walk through safe area to King St. with different great restaurants, bars and stores. Would like to come back just for visiting Alexandria.

    « Pretty good! »

The hotel is not far from Braddock metro, and there is free shuttle service provided. There is not much around the hotel, but a short walk will get you to some places for dinner. The rooms are standard and clean. The bed was very comfortable and there was a great selection of pillows. The bathroom was not updated, but still nice. Plenty of hot water in the morning. The internet (free) was a bit disappointing. During the evening it slowed down, and I finally gave up at 10:30pm. In the morning it was working fine again. The staff were great and very accommodating!

« Best Western is the best! »

I have not stayed in a Best Western for years, but my husband booked us a trip seeing Washington D.C. and wanted to stay just outside of the city. We stayed here and I was impressed. Seems like all the Best Westerns have gone a renovation and our room was very spacious, clean, and overall very nice. Best of all my husband and I loved the breakfast provided. Far more than I have had at other chain hotels. Egg, waffles, cereals, french toast sticks, yogurt, etc...Also too the hotel was not far from the subway line and was very accessible to everything. We will book here again when we come back to D.C.

    « Clean, comfy, professional »

I wanted a decent hotel in Old Town Alexandria that provided free parking, after experiencing the obligatory parking fees in DC earlier this summer. This little hotel provided so much more! The staff was, without exception, professional, courteous, considerate & accommodating. The room was super clean, the beds super comfy. The water pressure & temperature of the shower were perfect, and the bathroom was vented quite well (a pet peeve of mine when "not"). Another nice touch was the clean remote for the TV (cable, lots of channels). There were coffee and cookies in the lobby. We walked along the Potomac down to King Street (the main drag there) in 20 minutes. It's faster if you walk directly down, and the neighborhood is very pretty and safe. If you eat in this town, which has excellent restaurants, believe me, you will appreciate the exercise!

« Just What We Wanted »

This hotel was perfectly located for Washington DC travelers...although a little hard to find at first because it is not on the main street. Lots of Pros including the price...very reasonable for that area. It was a short shuttle ride to the Braddock station. The indoor parking garage was great. The room, although dated, was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was unique and very tasty (not your usual filler food). The shuttle was a perfect amenity. We used it to go to and from the metro station and into town for dinner. The staff was friendly and most accommodating. We loved that the surrounding area was quite nice and in a safe neighborhood. One night we walked to a close restaurant for dinner and walked back and never worried about being safe. Kiva was wonderful. Her help was most appreciated especially when a family emergency came up. She was very caring and went above and beyond to provide assistance. I would return to this hotel if ever in the area again and have already recommended it to friends who travel to Washington DC frequently. The only negative is the lack of an elevator, so for seniors it might be hard to negotiate the stairs and the breakfast is served on the lowest level.

« Has So Much Potential »

This hotel is in a great location and the exterior and interior brick is beautiful. The front desk person needs to be personable and offer best customer service. A front desk person should not have a dismissive attitude. The rooms need completely remodeled. The bedding and towels need replaced. The price is good but I would have paid more for this hotel if it was in better shape. It also might be nice if the rooms were all clean at check-in.

« Pleasant Stay While Visiting DC Area »

Hotel is older and could use some cosmetic touches. However, our room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful, shuttle drivers were great, and location is excellent. Will definitely stay again, if ever in the Washington area.

    « Great people! »

Had a fantastic stay! The room was so quiet and had such comfy beds. The breakfast was nice and well stocked thanks to Mary Scott. The front desk staff were so helpful but the best amenity of this property is the shuttle. The drivers take you anywhere you want to go in a two mile radius, i.e. restaurants, King Street, museums, metro stations. Just call and the friendly guys will pick you when your feet give out from exploring! They picked us up from Reagan airport and we never needed a car. My daughter and I had a great time. Thanks.

« As old as the town.... »

    1) no elevator, not accessible 2) internet slow 3) bathrooms smell like mold and have chipped paint 4) all other amenities are old 5) no plugs near bedside needs total remodel. decent location is only pro

    « "Great location" »

Great location for our visit to DC and Alexandria. We flew into Reagan International Airport and the shuttle to hotel was prompt with picking us up. All staff we encountered were friendly and accommodating. This is a three story establishment that has no elevator. We did not find it to be a problem, yet travelers need to be aware. Free breakfast was good and plentiful. They also offer free shuttle to Metro station as well as any establishment on nearby King Street. Would definately return to this location!

    « Honeymoon Services »

The staff was very helpful and accommodating. They were very friendly in providing information about transportation and dining in the area. The room was clean, quiet, comfortable, and affordable. A full breakfast buffet was provided each morning. A bottle of champagne was provided for our honeymoon stay upon our request. I would recommend this for an easy affordable getaway, close to DC and in the heart of Old Town Alexandria.

    « Very Comfortable »

Enjoyed my stay...shuttle to station and train into Washington DC...very acceptable breakfast and that comfy bed! Parking always available. Fresh, filtered water and coffee in the lobby available at all times. Very friendly and helpful staff. Thank you!

    « Disappointing...."Worst" Western hotel. »

It has been many years since we have stayed at a Best Western hotel. On arrival we received a nice welcome but unfortunately it was not an indication on what was to come. The decor, paintwork, carpets and general cleanliness all badly need attention . In our bathroom there was a large damp patch on the wall, the paint was flaking off onto the carpet.( see photo) The bed linen and towels were not white but gray. The result was that we found no pleasure in being in the hotel. The carpets throughout the hotel need changing and the paintwork needs to be redone. The breakfast buffet however was good. The covered parking was good and the shuttle service was efficient. Our conclusion is that we did not have what we expected for our money. We did not tell the hotel management as there was nothing in the immediate that they could do to improve things.

    « Rolling Thunder Trip »

Picked this hotel due to it's proximity to the Pentagon for the Rolling Thunder Rally. The quality of the room and facility exceeded my expectations. This hotel will remain on my radar for future stays.

    « Good Value! »

I find it always a bit peculiar when people want to pay Days Inn prices but expect Mandarin Hotel Standards. Yes the BW Colony Inn is a bit vintage and that shows in some places, but our room is really clean and kept very tidy by housekeeping, the staff is helpful and friendly, the room features a fridge, tv, coffeemaker, desk and chair and for breakfast uo can have sausages and omlett with you toast, waffles, fresh fruit and some yogurts. Free coffee and Ice are available, and the hotel has a fee shuttle that takes guests to the nearest airport, Metro Station or Kings Street, i.e. Old Town Alexandria. We have stayed here for two nights and have another two to go and we ahre really happy with our choice.

« Great Location and a Fair Price »

I picked this hotel on the advice of a coworker and was not disappointed. The shuttle was wonderful. Stops included the Airport for pickup and drop-off, the Metro station, and dinner each night. The hotel staff were friendly and professional. The room was simple, but clean. The beds and pillows were better than expected. The breakfast was nothing special, but it was clean and there was hot food as well. The coffee wasn't bad either. I'd strongly consider staying there again.

« Great place to stay »

Lovely room, clean and comfortable bed, wonderful full breakfast - hot and cold, friendly staff, small shop in hotel, close to grocery shop and walking distance to underground- but shuttle service also available, very quiet and old style neighborhood

« Clean and quiet place to stay »

This hotel only has 49 rooms which results in a quiet atmosphere. The staff is friendly and courteous and addresses any issues promptly. The shuttle service was very convenient. They do not allow tour buses to park on the property. When they do have visitors from tour buses the hotel stays quiet.

    « Nice rooms »

We stayed two nights here while visiting family in town and doing some sightseeing. We found this motel to be in a good location for what we were seeing. The staff was great and very helpful and the shuttle service was great, they drop us off at our nieces house. It was within the 3 mile limit they have. The breakfast was good and well stocked. They do need to replace the electrical plugs in the bathrooms, nothing will stay plugged in. Overall it is a good place to stay for the price.

« Very Good Value Stay »

Stayed here in May for four nights. Very helpful and friendly front desk staff - thanks to Mohamed and June. Our room was very clean and well maintained during our stay. The complimentary breakfast was very acceptable with a good variety of cereals, breads, yogurts etc. The hot dish was different on each day of our visit. Situated not too far from Reagan International Airport and Metro. The hotel provides an excellent complimentary shuttle service to various places within a range of three miles. Good car parking is also available. All in all a very enjoyable stay. May not be 5 star but excellent value.

    « weekend wedding »

Went up for family wedding asked for adjoining rooms other guest did not check out so we had to settle for rooms across hall neither one had DVD player like ADVERTISED the room had a hot water leak that was steaming up room and air was not working well Desk clerk said no maintenance at night and offered to move us to a new room which was much nicer and said following day we could move into the adjoining room which we choose to stay put this room had a DVD player. The front Desk clerks were very nice and helpful. cleaning staff were very cheerful. The breakfast that was served was most excellent Mary Scott who took care of keeping everything filled cooked and served was very personable and friendly made you feel right at home.

    « so so »

Hummm.....stayed here 2 nights because everything else in Alexandria was so expensive during the week and we weren't going to spend much time in the room anyway. The front desk clerk,Mohammad was very nice, but really overworked. When I needed something at the front desk, I had to wait until he moved a refrigerator down a flight of stairs all by himself as no one else was working that night, literally. There is no elevator in a 3 story property. Breakfast was so-so but filled us up. Beds were fine. Bathrooms REALLY needed a face lift. Clean enough. But beware - they cater to middle school / high school groups

    « Great Surprise!! »

I was looking for a reasonably priced accommodations close to Dal Rey, to visit my son. This was the best offer, with complimentary breakfast & parking. It was a beautiful old red brick building, but the inside was bright & modern!! The staff was immediately gracious and friendly, and accommodating throughout our stay. The room was simple and clean plenty of towels, which is rare! A nice touch was the gratis afternoon cookies provided at the front desk for all...freshly baked and delish!! I used the computer in the Business Center which was up to date and clean. All the staff was extremely professional!! and the price was right

« I wanted to like it, I really did »

We travel quite a bit, and as long as a hotel is clean, we forgive a LOT. The room here was clean, so I gave it 3 stars - kudos to the housekeeping staff, all of whom went out of their way to say hello, too. Mohammad at front desk was pleasant, too. I knew when I booked that I was paying for location. I knew it was small and old..and I was ok with that. It IS super convenient, great location. Breakfast was ok - smoked sausage (kielbasa?) and eggs and basic fare - variety of breads/jelly, cereal, etc. And the room we got was OLD. I mean, really patched up, cracked walls (repainted), broken door moulding, loose sockets, etc. But what really bothered us was noting immediately on check in (which was 3 pm, nothing ready at our early 1:30 arrival time, front desk unwilling to call or text when room ready) that the bathroom faucet was running (not dripping) hot water. Apparently, it was unable to be fixed that evening while we were out due to needing a water shut-off, so we had to deal with listening to running water all.night.long. Closing the door helped, but created a sauna and wet, dripping walls. By morning, even the bedroom was uncomfortable. Scheduled for maintenance at 11am the next day, we returned late in the evening unhappy to find the water STILL running. A note was left saying the hot water valve was fixed but now the cold needed fixing, which didn't make sense as it was still running hot water. Another night of no sleep in a sauna. Mgmt did send a bag with water, soda, and snacks for our inconvenience, but $180/night is NOT ok for what we experienced. Yes, we could have made a bigger issue about it at the time, but we had already been told at check in that the rooms were full, and we had a full schedule with family and didn't need to fight with our hotel. If we had paid less, maybe I'd be more forgiving (?)..but full price/going rate? Not ok.

    « Great customer service »

I would like to thank the staff the hotel has for there hard and dedicated work while they are on duty. The guy called Sean, Mary, Rashea if i am right helped us a lot during our stay plus on the day of the wedding that my family had this weekend. They been asking us on how to assist us with the work we had and made everything easy for us. Great team, hope to visit again soon.

« Nice Place to Stay in Alexandria »

We have been travelling to Alexandria for the past 4 years to visit our daughter and family. When we need a room this has been our go to hotel - always comfortable. Wish they had a refrigerator in the room.

    « Disappointed stay »

No acceptable connectivity high speed internet while it claimed internet was high speed and free. The sign to my room had to be reset every night from the front desk. At the end of each night, I gave up. Electrical outlet in wall could not hold the weight of Apple plug-in. Curtain could not be closed completely to block early daylight.Blanket too thin for comfort. Complaints were not followed up by management. Staff friendly. Shutter & price good.

    « Charming! »

I found this place to be a charming little hotel. Small, humble and comfortable. Free and easy parking is certainly refreshing for this area of the USA where all the bigger hotels seem to be about expensive valet parking. You may think you are out the way here compared to other spots but the hotel do run a free shuttle service into old town. The included breakfast was basic but fine. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The only draw back from my short one night stay is that unfortunately I was likely bitten by bed bugs! They are more common than you think in international hotels but I am sure they can be avoided. In fairness I point out that this is only my assumption as in the night I woke up itching and the next day I had little red marks here and there on my body. I cannot see it being anything else. Free wi-fi access was great. Although the hotel was full during our stay it was very quiet.

« Not fancy but clean and friendly »

We selected the hotel because of location to Old Town and value for the price. We were not disappointed. The staff was really friendly and helpful and the shuttle service was great. They were always around and responsive. Great amenity. But this is a very basic hotel. The rooms are kind of old, no refrigerators, there is no elevator so if you have any problems climbing stairs, it is not for you. The breakfast was very basic but well stocked and enough to get you started in the morning.

« Great little hotel with Fantastic Customer Service! »

My husband and I spent a week here in April, site-seeing for several days before I attended a conference in National Harbor. I looked for a hotel near a metro and within walking distance of things to do and good restaurant choices and Old Colony Inn fit the bill. The room was a standard hotel room but very clean with a comfortable king-sized bed and plenty of pillows. There was some trouble with the air conditioning but the maintenance folks got right on it. A complimentary breakfast helped with the budget. The customer service was what set this hotel apart, however - I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton in DC and the staff weren't as accommodating as these folks! Another huge bonus was the complimentary "on-demand" shuttle that takes guests to the airport, metro station or King Street with its restaurants and shops. Overall, this hotel was an incredible value for the area. We would definitely stay here again!

« Two night stay in Alexandria »

My husband and I just got back from a weekend getaway in Alexandria, VA. We picked this Best Western due to its location, free parking, and inexpensive cost. While all three of these criteria were met, I found myself wishing the hotel itself was a bit nicer. Before arriving I knew from the pictures that the hotel's decor appeared outdated and could use a renovation in the near future. But inside this translated to an awkward room layout and a lack of amenities. The shower was horrible and had very poor water pressure and the tub drained so slowly that it was almost overflowing after a few minutes of showering. In addition, we didn't find the overall room that clean feeling as a lot of the wallpaper and carpet were peeling and there was rust. We ate the free breakfast one of the mornings we were there but did not find it very palatable so we ended up just eating a granola bar on our last morning. Next time we're in Alexandria, we'll look for a different hotel even if that means paying more, which is fine with us.

« Best Western Old Colony Inn, Alexandria, VA »

Great location. Quaint historical town. Safe neighborhood. Close to Metro and restaurants. Reasonable rates. Free shuttle Very good hot breakfast buffet. Manager and staff very accommodating. Clean rooms. Temperature varied for hot shower, but manageable. Outside parking or under garage was very convenient. Landscaping and grounds well kept.

    « Nice Stay! »

The hotel was clean and had a nice breakfast. They had a shuttle that would take you to the Metro, airport or King Street which was wonderful. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were large but need some updating. There is no refrigerator or microwave in the rooms of this Best Western. Getting to this hotel is a little confusing. The address is N. Washington Street, but it's not directly accessible on N. Washington Street, if that makes sense. If I remember correctly, we had to get off at 1st street and take an immediate left into the parking lot.

Had a wonderful stay at the Old Colony Inn. Very convenient to the airport and public transporation, and the idea of a free shuttle from the airport to the hotel is a plus. There is also a shuttle to the metro station but it was an easy and delightful walk. A huge plus was the hotel breakfast - with 2 teens, a real plus!

    « Ryan Family »

What a pleasant staff. June, Mary and Woody to name a few. The shuttle service is great, Woody so helpful. Mary had our room ready in no time and June so helpful at check in and check out. Breakfast on site and free really convenient. Local easy to find, price, parking and pleasant. Thanks so much.

    « Pleasant Stay!! »

The Hotel was clean, nice pillows, fantastic breakfast, helpful and friendly staff, shuttle to the Metro which is easy access to DC and the Airport. overall, my stay was pleasant and i will recommend the hotel any day and to Anybody that wants to be home away from Home

« Very, very, very, very tired hotel »

Let me start by saying the people at reception at this hotel were great, they go out of their way for the guests. The shuttle service is excellent, but the hotel itself is in desperate need of an upgrade. The rooms are clean, the furniture was dated, the bed was comfortable enough, the bathroom had mould on the ceiling, with the paint peeling - looked like a leak from room above, the toilet roll holder was coming off the wall. Breakfast was OK, not a huge selection. Could be a really nice hotel if modernised a bit. Location to Old town and Bradock road train station (to get to DC) both about a 15 minute walk or a 5 minute shuttle ride. When you land at Regan Airport ring the hotel to be picked up by shuttle or get the person at airport information desk to ring for you.

« Stay in Alexandria visit Washington »

The best thing about the hotel is the location - close to metro station Braddock Rd - in 10 minutes you get to downtown Washington. Also, if you wish to visit Alexandria, the hotel is 10 min walking distance from the centre and its beautiful King Str. The breakfast food is not that healthy and the coffee is horrible but there are 2 groceries stores, a Starbucks and several restaurants in walking distance. The staff is nice and the room pretty comfortable.

« Best Western Old Colony Inn, Alexandria, VA »

Quiet, comfortable, reasonably priced. Self-service breakfast much better than average. Walking distance to Old Town, Metro, but there is also a van. This review is long enough! Trip advisor, your character requirement is excessive!

« Small quaint hotel with excellent service. »

Very small hotel with small rooms and great service. Hotel is very well kept and in excellent condition considering it is a older establishment. Hotel has only the ground floor and one more floor upstairs. Management provides great service and is very helpful with all your needs. Hotel is in walking distance to the main strip which is King Street where all the restaurants, bars, and shopping is located. You can walk to the Metro train stop or take the hotel shuttle to the train that takes you into Washington, DC only 4 stops away. A very close ride, better than spending 50.00 for a garage to park your car. The best thing that I really loved in my hotel room was the shower. Really great water pressure and I took advantage of it by staying under the water pressure for an hour. Good hotel for the price. With a Senior citizen discount you can get a room with a King Size bed for about 85.00. King bed also comes with 5 very comfortable pillows.

    « Awesome Stay!! »

this is one of the best of BW hotels, service awesome, good breakfast, awesome staff. I will stay and stay all over again. i enjoyed my stay so much, the room was clean and the shuttle was to time. i will recommend this to people.

    « Please Be Aware »

While the hotel staff were helpful overall, and the shuttle service very good, please be aware that the condition of the room and breakfast, for us, were substandard, especially for the price and location. Also note that the staff tried to compensate our experience generously and reported that a renovation is planned in about a year. This is a great location for families.

    « Breakfast service »

At the free breakfast service in the morning, the hotel attendant (Mary Scott) was extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. We are traveling from the West Coast, andMary made us feel like we were at home.

    « Wash DC Trip »

Afternoon clerk wasn't friendly, the other hotel staff were friendly and pleasant. The Hotel provided a shuttle service, but the shuttle driver wasn't friendly as well. Too bad, he missed out on tips from us and others who took the shuttle. Overall, their lack of pleasantness wouldn't deter us from staying at the hotel again. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the hotel was quiet considering there were students who were visiting Wash DC staying at the hotel .

« great value and location »

close to DC! easy accessibility to GW Pkwy and Metro system. Breakfast is great. rooms are clean and staff are friendly, helpful, and professional. Shuttle bus with (2 mile?) radius was a fantastic bonus. Used it for the subway station, and trips a few blocks away into Alexandria.

« Temporary Home while residence was restored »

The hotel was for me an excellent choice, both in location, cost and availability. The appearance was very good and the staff very cordial, helpful and professional. My stay was much longer than the normal but even so I enjoyed the stay.

Staff never discloses that your room rate can as much as double from one night to the next, and cannot explain how such prices are arrived at. My reservation was constantly entered incorrectly, and one day I was chewed out by the manager, until he checked his computer and found that I was correct. Of course he did not apologize, but then I am only a customer. Most of the front desk needs to go to charm school, and for basic accounting. I like this place, but it needs improvement.

    « Lots of fun »

A friend and I stayed here while visiting DC. The staff was super friendly and the room nice and cozy. We were close enough to Braddock Metro station that we would walk there which was really nice, especially since the weather was beautiful.

« Not bad for the price »

No elevator, hotel is old but ok, no fridge and ice to far away from the room I was in. No heat in the first room but from desk person gladly moved me. Staff was very nice. I'd stay again. There is a shuttle but I did not use it.

« Trip to the Unknown, at Arlington National Cemetery... »

Stained mattress but the rest of the place was clean. The staff was excellent. Great breakfast food. Watch out for the thieving taxi drivers, they scam you in to believing they don't know where anything is and ride block you in circles running up the meter.

« Great value, location, staff, and convenient. Clean!! »

I would recommend this hotel to a friend. This is a somewhat dated, basic hotel - nothing fancy, BUT the bed was great and very comfortable - I closed the black out curtains and slept like a dream. Everything was very clean, and the staff was especially courteous and helpful. Parking is convenient. Location is excellent. Shuttle service to Old Town is a great perk, since parking there is difficult. I will stay here again if I need a hotel in Alexandria. Mary Elizabeth is a valuable asset to the hotel - such a great help and a pleasure to talk to during breakfast.

    « Excellent Value! »

The warmth of the staff combined with the comfort and cleanliness of the facility is a winning combination! Each complimentary breakfast was different, it seemed each preparer did their specialty. The front desk staff were warm and welcoming and helpful. We did not use complimentary shuttle service, but it was nice that it was always available! Manager should be very proud of his people!!

« Great Value, Location and Staff »

Hi, This older hotel was clean and well-maintained and close to Reagan Airport Metro plus they had a shuttle to the airport. Breakfast was very good with an egg breakfast burrito, waffles, fruit and juice/coffee/cereal plus pastries.

    « Great Value »

This is a really great value for a park and fly hotel near Washington Reagan International. There is a free shuttle, but it only runs after 7 A.M. along with the breakfast, so we didn't get to use either service on the way to the airport; however, we did use the shuttle on the way back to get our vehicle.

    « Improving ! »

from an uncomfortable summer experience in which the air conditioner thermostats were way out of date, to more recently thermostats have all been replaced and working fine. I have been to many hotels in the Alexandria/Arlington area and this one is the best. the staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is varied every day with delicious offerings and fruit, not to mention cookies on the counter and coffee in the lobby all day. some of the rooms are really nice; I like the king size beds very spacious in the room and with a comfy chair. what a great neighborhood with good access to the airport and close to the river where you can take walks in the park. several good restaurants are within walking distance, or you can take the shuttle to old town.

    « Disappointed »

We stay a Best Western - a lot. But this time was a disappointment. Noise in the halls ALL NIGHT. Group of high school students on a tour. Maybe I shouldn't be complaining about the hotel - should have talked to the high school counselors. Hotel should have handled it though. Couple of front desk people NEED TO BE REPLACED. They spent more time on their cell phones than dealing with patrons. "Whatever." Now - the service employees went out of their way to help you. They could teach the front desk. Probably the last time we stay here

    « Pleasant »

A good place to relax when sightseeing the Washington D.C. region and surrounding area More blankets (perhaps left on the shelf as an extra item) would have been good. Staff is extremely friendly and obliging.

    « Nice hotel - nice staff - shuttle a great perk. »

Every time we visit Alexandria, we stay at this hotel. It has free shuttle service to the historic district and waterfront plus it's close to the metro service. Very comfortable room. We would like to see a few things put into place: microwave, refrigerator, ice machine and vending machine. It doesn't have an elevator but does have a lift going from the lobby to the breakfast area, which was nice.

    « A very Comfortable Stay »

We stayed here for a few days to visit Washington and the surrounding area. The Hotel is very clean, well kept and serviced, with friendly and helpful staff. The shuttle picked us up at DCA when we dropped the rental car and brought us to the Amtrak station the next day. Really and excellent stay and well worth the price,

    « weekend trip »

We did have to be moved to a different room when our first room had a heating problem but it was done quickly and easily by Mohammed from the front desk. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. What stands out most from our visit was the entire staff were very nice and friendly and helpful. The breakfast was more than continental! They had waffles and eggs and bacon and sausage besides the usual cereal, toast , sweet rolls and bagels. Mary kept everything well stocked and was very friendly. Our location was great for us --close enough to King street and the Metro. We will be coming back.

    « Paper Thin Walls »

The walls at this hotel were paper thin and the noises will keep you up if you're a light sleeper like me. Request a room away from the parking lot or you'll have lights coming in to your room throughout your stay. The breakfast is a precooked cheese omelette and a bulk cooked bacon of which the middle section was often not done.

    « Wonderful Staff »

Decided to take last minute mini vacation to visit DC and take in the sights .. Came across great reviews of this Best Western Old Colony in Alexandria. Soon as we got there we were greeting by Jeremiah the driver very informative man, the rooms are very comfortable .. They also have breakfast.. Mary who sets up breakfast is very friendly made my entire family feel comfortable.. Thank you Mary!!! Front desk staff warm and delightful .. All the sights and places we wanted to see was just close.. We loved the location. We will be back again and this would be the place to stay!! Thanks again ANavyFamily??

« great location good hotel »

The hotel is located in quiet residential area, the excellent shuttle service provides hassle free access to the restaurants, metro and Torpedo Factory. The staff is excellent and very helpful. The hotel is clean and well maintained. Would return.

« Great Place to Stay! »

We had a lovely stay at this hotel! First, although we travel several times each year, I must say the staff here was exceptional. Kevin checked us in, and, although I've run across lots of great staff checking into various hotels, his attitude and helpfulness were beyond anything I've encountered. I LOVED the location of this hotel! It's tucked away in a nice neighborhood, close to everything without being in the center of all the congestion. I appreciated the covered, free parking. The room was not modern, but it was very clean and cozy, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable! There was enough storage & places to charge electronics. The shower was fine, but it needs grab bars. The noise from the hallway did come through, but it rarely disturbed us. The price was terrific, although I suspect that had a lot to do with it being January. I would definitely stay here again!

« Great value near DC and in Alexandria, VA »

Great Best Western with great staff and nice breakfast spread and fitness room and plenty of parking. Near old city and also a nice walk to where my daughter lives in Del Ray in Alexandria. The reception staff were extremely helpful, the rooms were spacious with very comfortable beds, the breakfast was more than the advertised continental breakfast.

    « Great value! »

We visited DC for New Years Eve and attending a friend's wedding, and decided to stay in Alexandria for First Night celebrations. The hotel staff were friendly and attentive, accomodations were spacious and modern, the bed was comfortable, and the location was a convenient walk to King St and the metro station. Breakfast was not great (a standard American buffet breakfast), but convenient to have. We had only one concern about the bedding, which the staff replaced as soon as we pointed out the problem.

    « Friendly »

The people at this hotel were super friendly. Friendly check-in and front desk, also, breakfast had a good selection of food from eggs, waffles, sausages, bagels, muffins, cereal, oatmeal etc. Good job by Mary queen of Scotts! Jeremiah looked in on us to greet us and shuttle us to and from hotel to either metro stop or airport. Room was very clean and comfortable. TV worked good. WIFI was a little sketchy at times. All in all a good value for the money. Will recommend staying here to friends.

« Old style hotel, good location but WiFi is dead »

The room is like the name of the hotel (Old), it needs renovation. Breakfast is ok but some food are over cook. Nice staff when check-in. Location is ok, less than 15 min drive to museums but it is hard to find it as it is inside a residential area. The in-room internet is dead, I try so long and still can not browse on internet, I give up eventually.

    « concert get away »

This was a very nice and quiet place to stay for a weekend get away to see some live music in the D.C. area. The hotel is located near some nice parks along the water. It was very quiet and peaceful. The staff was very nice and professional which enhanced our stay.

« Good value in the Alexandria area »

Conveniently located between the Old Town area (about a 25 minute walk), the Braddock Street Metro station (about a 15 minute walk) and Reagan National Airport. The hotel has a shuttle that will take you to and from all three locations. Rooms are comfortable for the price. There is no ice machine available but the staff provides ice in plastic bags (a little odd). The free WiFi had a good signal in the room but had difficulty connecting in the breakfast area located in the basement. Measured download speed never broke 7 Mbps. A good value for the budget minded.

« very Reasonable price, Clean, friendly staff »

12/26/2015 - Depending on what you are looking for, I would rate this hotel very high. Yes, it is out dated as far as the bathroom goes, yet the other qualities make it a place you want to consider over other hotels. Quite frankly, this is an area where you shouldn't be spending time in the hotel. Old Town is so beautiful, and D.C. is 10 minutes away. It is a beautiful area. Plus, the area itself is upscale. I stayed in a hotel in West Virginia for the same price, and it was kind of scary as far as the customers. I paid $71 USD a night (with AAA discount). It was clean, and the bed was comfortable. Plus, breakfast was included (waffles, eggs, yogurt, cereals, eggs, corn beef hash....). The breakfast staff (Mary Elizabeth, and someone who stopped in this morning to wish us happy holidays and make sure we didn't need anything) and Manager were very pleasant and helpful.

    « Hotel review »

Have stayed here many times, family trips and business. Clean, simple, reliable, good location, easy parking. Pleasant walk into Old Town for restaurants, sight-seeing, shopping. Shuttle available too. Nice, appetizing, clean, varied, complimentary breakfast buffet by Mary and colleagues. Highly recommend.

    « Comfortable, friendly hotel »

Staff members at the Old Colony Inn were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet is sumptuous, healthy and tasty. Nice subtle decor in the room and throughout the hotel. The shuttle service is incredibly convenient -- no need to figure out how to drive in busy Alexandria traffic! All in all we had a very pleasant stay.

« Business in Alexandria, VA »

Hotel is extremely convenient for business or pleasure in the area. It is a popular property that is often sold out. Its easy to reach from National Airport. Shuttle service to Metro provides access to all of the DC metro region. Front desk staff is extremely helpful and polite. Clean and a real value for the area.

« Great location, safe area, clean rooms and GREAT STAFF »

We arrived at the Best Western hotel in Arlington Va on a Thursday afternoon and stayed through Sunday morning. APPEARANCE~ as we drove up to the hotel, we loved the colonial look of the hotel, lots of brick and a open archway, with a nice porch on the front. We loved the benches, and especially the rocking chair. With the wonderful weather DC was experiencing, we were able to make use of this several times. We did find it quite funny that no smoking signs were placed on the porch but in the corners were ashtrays. This is in a safe location, we walked all around the area and always felt very safe, loved the old historic building, houses in the neighborhood. CHECK-IN ~ we were greeted by Mohammed, and welcomed to the hotel. He didn't know we just spent about 20 hours driving, so it is especially nice to have such a warm welcome, offers to assist us carrying our bags upstairs, and his speed of getting is checked in. Throughout our stay, he provided us with professional service, sincere greetings, and was very helpful. I like to give credit to other hotel staff that worked the front desk as well, because when I get great service it should be acknowledged. Shani- bright, happy, enthusiastic and extremely helpful young lady. Worked the night shift a couple of nights during our stay and truly an assist to your hotel. Kevin also worked the night shift and he too was just wonderful, there was a another two ladies that were working, and I'm sorry to say that I didn't get their names but they were equally as good as the rest. Great staff, you can expect great service at the front desk at all times. PARKING ~was FREE to hotel guests and they did have limited covered parking! SHUTTLE SERVICE ~ to airport and metro also offered, we didn't use this great service, but wanted to mention this. LOBBY~ when you walk in to the lobby you will have a nice spacious area! with a chairs, complimentary newspapers, coffee, ice cold water, cookies. The wood floor looks great! They had a Christmas tree, and the place is nicely decorated. ROOMS~ we had a king size bed in our room, two windows with blinds that kept the light out! Rooms were clean, temperature was comfortable and adjustable. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Shower and bathroom were clean, and average towels, I have had better, but these were just average. Large tv, coffee maker, pretty much all your standard items. Our room was on the second floor, and there was no elevator to go upstairs with. Not a problem for us, but did want to mention it. There is an elevator that will take you downstairs to the lower level for business center and breakfast area. Was a quiet room, not noisy in the evening, and able to get a good night sleep! BREAKFAST~ free breakfast with plenty of choices and good hot food. This is one of the reasons we chose this hotel, because a good free breakfast helps with out trip expenses. I need to make sure and talk about the lady that was cooking, keeping the tables cleaned, filling up the food and running the show in the breakfast area, her name was Mary Scott, and she was amazing, watching her work so quickly, keeping all the tables cleaned and food stocked, dishes clean and numerous other tasks completed....showed what a great employee you have! She not only did all that, but one morning, I came down for breakfast and it didn't open for another ten minutes, but she opened up early nonetheless. This morning, I came by myself, she came over to me, asked me how my stay/ visit to DC was going, she took interest in me, my trip and wanted to make sure that I was having a good experience. What a gift you have with this young lady, she made my day, with her great smile, friendly and happy attitude, and her gift of working so hard!! LOCATION~ we were pleased with location! everything seemed to be about 20 minutes from this area, we were right off a main road, and it took us right to every major road we needed to get to. We would stay here again, room prices were fair and reasonable, not sky high like some places we priced, neighborhood was safe, rooms and beds nice and comfortable. But what sets this hotel above many others is their staff, there is also a person I don't want to forget about, and he was a housekeeper, Devondra was very kind and helpful...and the other housekeepers were equally as good. I covered quite a bit, but there are always things that others want to know more about and I would be more than happy to answer your questions if for you. I always like to add the following disclaimer to my posts....I look at the glass half full not half empty, I will be honest with you but you have to remember what I might think is the best, you might not think the same. Tell me what your expectations are and I will tell you if I 'think'' it will be a good match.

« Perfect stay in DC »

This hotel provides you with everything you need for a lovely stay. It has transportation available from the airport and anywhere in Alexandria. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is so close to everything. Breakfast is outstanding every day. We stayed for 5 days and enjoyed it every day. It looks and feels like you are staying in Williamsburg and it is only 2 blocks from the river.

    « Affordable accomodations »

Good value for the money. Location in the DC area very good if you have a car. Free shuttle to Metro and elsewhere or those who don't. Would recommend for those on a budget looking for a clean, safe place to stay.

    « great value »

The room had new, comfortable bed/bedding. The staff was friendly and efficient. The hotel offers a free shuttle to area attractions. We had a very quiet, comfortable sleep! This was our second stay at this hotel with an equally good experience.

    « BestBreakfast by Mary »

We visited Alexandria for the "Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend" . We really enjoyed this Best Western as the had shuttle service around town. Good rooms ,under cover parking and the best breakfast by Mary!

    « Comfortable »

Room is a little dated, which seems appropriate that it is the "old colony". Cozy and comfortable. BW status recognized at check-in. Usually stay in DC but the hotel rates were crazy as I had visited when Pope Francis was in town. Breakfast is included and adequate. Shuttle service to the Metro station is great, but my gripe is that it ends at 9pm. I returned from a night in DC about 10pm and was left with taking a bus from Pentagon metro so that I could get off at a bus stop relatively close to the hotel.

« a great deal for the DC area »

This is a great place to stay if you're in DC. The rooms are not fancy, but the beds are comfortable. The bathrooms are a little spartan and my tv was not working very well, but it's unlikely you'll be spending much time in the room. The location is great, very close to Old Town Alexandria, but also right off the George Washington Parkway, which will get you easy access to DC, Arlington & Mount Vernon. Also, this hotel offers FREE parking, which is hard to find just about anywhere in the DC area and the staff was great. Would definitely stay there again when I'm back in the city.

    « Very Satisfied »

Very clean hotel, very courteous staff. Bathroom was dated, but clean. I would stay here again. Parking was easy. Ice was supplied in bags in a freezer, which was convenient. This hotel is 2 stories and there is no elevator, but that was not a problem for us. Room was quiet at night.

    « Repeat customer »

The Best Western Old Colony is our family's choice when we attend the Scottish Christmas Walk in Old Town Alexandria. We're always well taken care of, and are pleased with the staff, and the facility itself.

« Perfect place to stay. »

Stayed with my wife and son. Room was clean and the facilities well maintained. The night I arrived Mohamed was at the front desk. Very polite and professional. Mary Scott attentions of the breakfast areas was excellent and Jacinto Santos was very polite and very helpful. I will recommend this hotel , has a perfect location to get around Old Town and D.C.

« Relaxing, friendly and totally functional »

Stayed at the Best Western Old Colony Inn with friends, while combining a family visit with sight-seeing in the area. We have stayed at this Best Western Inn before and felt comfortable staying for this current trip. Although the place is not new, it has been maintained well and provides every need that could exist. The location is quite good, with easy access to both Old Town Alexandria as well as downtown D.C. The staff was very friendly and helpful, with particular recognition to Mary Scott who was in charge of the breakfast area. Her "upbeat" greeting and attention to the food supplies was well appreciated. We will stay again at our next visit to Alexandria.

« Good Choice for the Metro Area »

We stayed a total of 8 nights here and all except one night was very pleasant, which is why I rated the motel a 4 and not a 5. That one night was in a room (first floor by the garage side) where cigarette smoke was prominent through the vent in the bathroom, yet no one knew why this was so as the people in the adjacent room (common wall bathroom) were apparently not the offenders. Also, there is no elevator and stair access to the 2nd floor is awkward. The breakfast area is nicely set up and appointed. Parking is outdoors except for a few slots in a small garage area on the north side.

    « Surprisingly Charming »

Not being sure what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. The location is ideal. The facility is nicely maintained and fits well with the history and charm of Old Town Alexandria. The pre-bagged ice was a neat bonus. Staff was very customer service oriented.

« First trip to DC »

This hotel was located close to public transport that we found it a great place to stay to see DC. Took a bus to the train to Arlington, then over the bridge to Lincoln Memorial and the mall. Staff at Old Colony Inn was very professional. Easy parking, nearby restaurants. No elevator, there are stairs even for the first level, but I did see they had a wheelchair lift. It is like a split level. The breakfast was great. Neighborhood is splendid old style.

    « Hidden Gem »

Perfect launching pad to explore the Washington DC area. Conveniently located just off the GW Parkway, provides easy access to Old Town Alexandria, the Monuments and transportation system. Extended list of free amenities, including FREE parking, local shuttle service, internet and breakfast. Surrounded by similar hotels and apartments, walkable to restaurants, grocery stores, banks, and refined shopping noted for Old Town Alexandria. Easy access to trails, popular with runners and bikers. Room was spacious with plenty of towels and pillows. Function over frill; the basics are covered solidly, but don't expect a plush bathrobe, shower cap and stocked mini-refrigerator. Warm, welcoming staff set a friendly professional tone at each interaction. Not crowded, but attracted friendly, professional guests. A home run for the value conscious traveler, I would come back in a heartbeat.

    « Most supportive staff »

My wife and I live in Canada and have stayed at the Best Western Old Colony Inn ("BWOCI) in Alexandria VA two or three times a year for many years while visiting our daughter. We always enjoyed the good accomodation, the helpful staff, the free breakfast and the courtesy van to shuttle us about. This year while staying at the BWOCI we had to extend our visit a couple of times while our daughter was dying in a hospital in Northern Virginia. We could not have had a more supportive staff at the BWOCI. Despite the fact that the hotel was heavily booked we were granted an extension of our stay on two occasions and accomodation was made at the last minute for our son who also came from Canada to be with his sister during her final days. Many, many thanks to the entire staff at this hotel, particularly June and Shanta who watched over us from behind the front desk. It is grand to know a hotel has a heart which we will never forget.

« Terrific Place to Conduct A Meeting »

Friendly, courteous and professional staff are there to assist you in whatever is needed. The tireless efforts of the hotel staff helps provide a positive, welcoming experience for all involved. Kudos to Mary Scott and the entire staff of the Best Western Old Colony Inn!

« A good value and a great place to stay »

The hotel was very well taken care of. Front desk staff was very friendly as were the shuttle drivers, cleaning staff and breakfast room attendants. Breakfast was very good. Hot foods included eggs and sausage or bacon. Cereal, yogurt, breads and fruit were also offered. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Décor was attractive. With shuttle to Old Town we had easy access to very good restaurants and shopping.

    « We had a great time »

Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was good and Mary Scott was very friendly in the dining area. The front desk and the shuttle drivers were great. We had free shuttle service to the metro and to King St in Old Town. Thank you for an awesome experience.

« Why stay in D.C. when you can stay here? »

The price and comfort of this hotel make it well worth the trip over the river while visiting D.C.The rooms and decor are very pleasant, airy and spacious. It's great to be in a quiet neighborhood yet so close to the offerings on King Street. Breakfast was great, including eggs and waffles. Only minor complaint is that internet was unreliable.

    « Okay for a quick night »

The location was in a nice area of town. The receptionist greeted us with the bare minimum of courtesy. We were placed in the last double double and it was literally right off the lobby so a little noisy at first. The beds were actually two double beds (some hotels are listing them as double but come to find out they are bigger). A double double is fine for two people but sharing with my husband was a little tight. We were comfortable enough temperature wise because the weather was unusually warm for November, however there was no quilt or bedspread or extra blankets if we had been chilly. The amenities were very basic. The coffee in the morning was delicious and the breakfast was fine. It was a good price for DC and would have been fine for us except for the bedding.

« Friendly, professional staff & great location »

We spent 2 nights here last week and enjoyed a quiet room, daily breakfasts and the convenience of their shuttle to the Braddock Metro station to board the train into Washington, D.C. Front desk staff is always ready to offer information and directions to places of interest. The shuttle will also take you into Old Town Alexandria for touring and dining.

« Experience at Best Western Old Colony Inn, Alexandria VA »

Check-in and out staff very friendly, efficient, and courteous. Location is just perfect. Having the metro nearby and the van to either pick you up or drop you off at the metro or at Reagan National airport is very convenient. Every time I visit I find the rooms clean and the bed comfortable.Breakfast is plentiful- either hot or cold.

« Home away from home! »

Mary Scott was amazing. Mary is responsible for providing the breakfast foods at the hotel. She went out of her way to make certain we had a hot meal both mornings during our stay, even though it was earlier than the normal breakfast time. In fact, she came in Sunday morning, earlier than she needed to, just so we would be able to eat before we left for the Marine Corps Marathon. We were so impressed and grateful for her kindness! She is the reason that we will come back to Best Western in Alexandria in the future. It is our new home away from home! Thank you Mary Scott!

« Excellent location and convenient to DC »

My first trip to DC with my family. We opted to stay in Alexandria with the train into DC within walking distance from Hotel or their shuttle van which also picked us up & dropped us off at the airport. Extreemly friendly and helpful front desk staff. Fresh cookies in the evening. Trader Joe's just 4 blocks away!!! Will stay there again when visiting the area. I would not call this a "budget hotel but it is certainly not an expensive hotel". Budget friendly for a family.

    « Ok Stay »

I have stayed here before and I had a very good experience. This time, it was ok, but not as good. Specifically, the rooms need updating and consistent paint jobs, not just random cover jobs. Also, the shuttle service needs to be improved, from leaving on time and actually coming and picking people up when they say they will. The breakfast was good, but could have used a bit more of a selection.

    « DC Vacation »

We had a lovely visit. Room was clean, service people very pleasant. Shuttle driver very nice. Breakfast was great. The only problem we had was when wife took a bath and tub leaked onto floor. We told the front desk when we checked out.

    « Nice neighborhood »

This hotel is located in a nice, quiet, safe location to walk at night. There is a grocery store nearby, but few restaurants to chose from. It is about 1 mile to the metro station, but there is a courtesy bus which was handy. Airplane noise in the early am on the weekdays.

    « Comfortable Beds! »

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and found it to be clean and comfortable. It'd be best characterized as a no-frills motor inn on the northern outskirts of downtown Alexandria. Parking is free and mostly plentiful, less so if you come back after a late night but not terribly so. Staff were pleasant and professional. Bathrooms were smallish but tidy. I'd say the king size beds were the best part of this hotel. They were very comfortable and made me wish I could sleep in more -- but sightseeing won out. One negative - there are no elevators in this two story building. Folks with accessibility issues may wish to take note of this. All in all, this was a very comfortable hotel at a reasonable price near the center of Alexandria.

    « A good place to stay. »

We stayed at this hotel for 5 days. There was two couples in our group. One couple had a nice room downstairs with a king size bed and a big bathroom. I think this was a handicapped room. Our room was upstairs. There is no elevator. The room was nice and comfortable. It had two queen size beds. The bathroom was small, The bottom of the bathroom door was peeling and black. The carpet in our room was ripping at the seam. I reported it and it was fixed the next day. The walls had two different colors on them. It looked someone had painted over the patches and not finished painting the rest of the walls. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We used the shuttle service to the metro and to the airport. The drivers were helpful too. We also enjoyed the breakfast served downstairs every day. There was a lift to use if needed to go downstairs for breakfast. I would return again to this hotel but I would request a room on the first floor.

« Great Place to stay when visiting DC area »

We would recommend this convenient location with complimentary shuttle service to the metro, our trips into DC were easy and safe! Rooms were clean and quiet. Breakfast was varied and there was plenty for everyone Great value for your dollar. Would definitely stay here again!

« Good location for both DC & Alexandria »

We have stayed at this hotel during previous visits to DC. The location is great to enjoy both DC and Alexandria, which has many excellent restaurants and shops along King St. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable; they offer a nice TV channel line-up; the staff is friendly and the full breakfast included is a nice bonus to start the day. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to avoid the high cost and expense of rooms across the river in DC. This is not a luxury hotel with multiple amenities but does offer comfort and value for travelers on a budget.

« GREAT value for the price and location »

The staff was kind and friendly! Free parking and shuttle to where we ate dinner. We probably saved a minimum of $100 staying here compared to other hotels in the area. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. There is not a standard fridge or microwave in the room, but the staff was willing to get a fridge for us for a $10 up charge. The bathroom was worn (discoloration of caulking), but clean. Overall the value of our stay was WONDERFUL!

« Mold Growth in Bath »

Walls in bath were deteriorating due to water damage, this coupled with the mold growth, deteriorated bathroom door and dirt coupled with rust from the door hinges was not what I expected or appreciated.

    « A good place to stay »

A bit old, and a bit smaller than typical Best Western rooms, but everything was fine. Although a bit out of the old town area, only a 10 minute walk (or less) and then free King St. Trolly, or use hotel free shuttle. Very convenient with car (free parking), and there is free parking everywhere including 2-minute walking from King St. (mostly limited to 2-3 hours). 7 minute walk or free shuttle from Metro station. 7 minute walk from supermarket. Very quiet, pleasant area. Excellent business center, very friendly staff. I wish this were less expensive, but definitely wouldn't pay more for a fancier hotel or one in Old Town itself.

    « Cross Country Trip »

This hotel was not a BW Plus and did not meet our expectations for a Best Western. Room was noisy, had no fridge or microwave and we had to request a TV remote which did not work and had to ask for another. Alexandria did not have a Best Western Plus or we would have stayed there.

    « DC Trip »

Great location. Although it is a bit of a walk from King Street, it is still quite walkable. A few restaurants close enough to make an evening meal an easy fete. Great shuttle driver - we dropped off our rental car the night before leaving DC and the shuttle got us promptly to the airport - runs very true to what you are told. The young lady that checked us in was pleasant yet professional. We were too early for rooms to have been cleaned, so she was quick to offer to store our luggage, very accommodating. Printer in the basement to print boarding passes - working computers and paper loaded in the printer made for a very quick task. We'll be choosing this hotel again.

« Great location in Alexandria »

Only stayed one night to catch a plane the next day. I walked to Old Town and the waterfront. The neighborhood seemed safe and I think Old Town must have the highest concentration of restaurants that I have ever experienced. There was also a very nice grocery store less than 1/2 a mile away. It also had a shuttle to and from Reagan National.

    « Staff was great! »

Travelocity I stayed here for a week with my mom & aunt. The location was close to old town (15 min walk or free shuttle). Old town was great for walking around, shopping or just meeting people. Every member of the hotel staff was helpful and courteous, they really made our stay there worthwhile. The wi-fi was a bit spotty at times, but free... The breakfast was not decadent but it tasted great & it was hot. No elevator up to the 2nd floor guest rooms, which really sucked. But otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay here! We would definitely stay here again.

« Nice Stay in Alexandria »

Stayed two nights and was very pleased. Room was clean and very neat, although dated. Great area, close to Old Town and is in walking distance to my daughters. Had a variety of breakfast items, both hot and cold. A very pleasant stay.

    « very good experience »

I was very happy with my stay. Although the building is dated, the room was extremely clean. The front desk service both at check-in and check-out was great. Airport shuttle drivers were friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised at the breakfast selection and the breakfast room was clean. I watched the worker in the breakfast room and appreciated how well she cleaned each table. I wished some restaurants could take notice. I would gladly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay there again. The bed was very comfortable and I was happy with the amount of pillows provided.
