"Great Hotel"

02/09/2018

This is one of the nicest Best Western motels we have stayed in. Neal, the manager, and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Children loved the huge indoor pool. Breakfast was great, and the cook came out to chat with us each morning. Walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg, and only a short drive to some very good restaurants. If we go back to the area, we will definitely stay here again.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. I try to meet as many guest as I can and hearing this makes me feel great - but I have to give most credit to my TEAM - they work very hard to serve all guest. Next visit please book direct with me using this existing email string - I would like to extend special pricing for one of out BEST guest - Brenda!!!!! Thanks, Neal

The hotel was not very clean, our room was in need of repair. The air conditioning unit was extremely noisy and vibrated loudly. Paint was chipping, microwave missing, very old carpeting and tv volume not working. Employee walked into our room with master key unannounced and didn't knock (This scared my wife). Hallways were in need of vacuuming, indoor pool not heated.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry we did not meet expectations. I will have maintenance check AC in the room - they are all new units and should not be making noise. Housekeepers knock and then enter announcing themselves - so I will find out who is not following procedures and will deal with them. In the summer time with the temperature at 85 to 90 we normally do not heat it - most people use it to cool off. It is heated starting late fall and thru the entire winter and early spring. Hallways are vacuumed daily and I will make sure they are being done - I will check with exec housekeeper to ensure that they are being done daily. - thanks. Next visit please book direct with me at this email and I will extend a discount offer to ensure we get a chance to make this right. Thanks Neal

Very convenient location to Williamsburg. Comfortable room. LONG hallways, elevators in the back of the property. Very helpful staff. Be aware that the restaurant is NOT under the Best Western management.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for great review. We are in process of managing the restaurant and will have thenew menu in September Thanks Neal

The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was clean. We knew going in we were booking a more budget friendly hotel and we were very pleased with it. It's not a luxury hotel, but we didn't need much. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise since kids 12 and under eat free with an adult purchase of the $9.99 buffet.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. I am glad we met expectations and look forward to your return visit. Breakfast is a full hot breakfast and servers will help you with any needs. We are only a short walk to the colonial area and only 2 miles from Busch Gardens and Water Country. Thanks, Neal

"Convenient to Busch Gardens"

18/08/2018

We stayed for a night as we visited Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. The hotel is two to three miles from both parks. We were able to check in early. The room was nice with typical hotel conveniences of tv, WiFi and fridge. The bathroom was small and did not have a fan. Unfortunately outside of our room was a little noisy as we were located near an exit and a smoking area. The hotel seemed popular as the parking lot was full in the morning. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel which serves breakfast but it is not complimentary.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the review. We are the closest hotel to Colonial Williamsburg and only 2 miles from Busch Gardens. Hope to see you again soon. Sorry for the customer noise. Front will ask them quite down if they are asked Thanks again Neal

Where to start: FIRST: When checked-in, the front desk clerk did not inform us on the location of the elevators, (which was ALL the WAY in the BACK of the building) until we already loaded our luggage onto their broken trolley. If she would have told us prior, we would have parked in the back on the building instead of wheeling a broken trolley all the way to the back on the hotel to use the elevator, then for us to wheeling it back to the front again to reach out room. SECOND: the housekeeping women repeatedly knocked on our door asking if we are left yet so we can CLEAN? when we told her that we would let her know. It was very annoying and frustrating to have to constantly get up when we are trying to sleep to let her know that. THIRD, midway into our stay we noticed that our sheets were not being changed. We found stains on sheets when we came back into our room. It was then when we realize she was just tucking in the bed and not changing the sheets.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry about the walk to the elevator - there are several locations that can put you closer to the elevator. I have had maintenance add air to the luggage cart tires. The sheets are changed every other day. We do change daily if special request is made in advance. After 9 when housekeeping arrives they will see if they can get into room to clean to get ready for 4:00 check-in. If in future you could put the do not disturb sign on and remove when you leave so housekeeping will do room later in day. Just please remember to remove "do not disturb" sign by 1:00 so they have time to clean room. Thanks,

"Room are not clean"

Terrible room service . The key to the room doesn't work even after the staff used their matter key . We had to switch room .After getting into our new room there was only conditioner and no shampoo . After my shower I found hair around the sink that were not mine .I'm positive that the hair are not mine because I don't have red hair . Then I continue to fine more hair on the bed that doesn't belong to me . I looked closer at the bed and realize the fitted sheet was put on backward . I will never come back .

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry that the housekeeper put the fitted sheet on inside out - I have corrected that situation. I am also sorry for the hair and have had a coaching session with the staff to ensure no one finds hair again. Thanks Neal

look for a better motel to stay at it is not newly remolded or does it have up dated rooms i guess they forgot to tell you that the hot tub is now covered with a table an chair setting on it but the staff is really nice to bad the hotel is as old as dirt

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
WE are an older hotel but have remodeled most all of the hotel public areas and all of the rooms. Old does not mean we should not ensure that hotel has been modernized and that we have just recently finished. The Brand had us do away with the hot tub and I have checked all sites and no where does it mention that we have one. I can see that you were an old guest of ours and I would like to be given the chance to make sure we do the great job we are known for. Please book direct with me using this web site and I will ensure a great stay and the first night I would like very much to have you as my guest - breakfast included. Attach this email string so I can verify stay for next visit to ensure you stay as my guest for the first night. Thanks Neal

"The only real plus is its location."

28/07/2018

Stayed 7/26/18 - 7/28/18. My room was furthest from the exits, had no phone signal, was sloppily painted and the ceiling looked like it needed to be patched in places. Something on the pillows (Febreeze? Bleach?) made my sinuses clog up and allergy meds did not help. The bathtub needed to be scrubbed down with bleach as the grout was black in places. The pool house had clumps of something that looked like hair on the floor around the edge of the pool, and when my niece swam in it she thought it looked 'dirty' because the water was not clear as you would expect. The 'bar and grille' was just a bar, they didn't serve anything more than a couple overpriced sandwiches, which was disappointing as I didn't want to go out to find food after a long day of driving. Overall it was a place to sleep and it served its purpose, but it wasn't a hotel I'd want to stay in again.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the review. Pool is walked hourly and we pick up after guest who leave items behind. We use the Best Western required soaps and I have not had this complaint before but will be on the look out for anyone experiencing a reaction. If occurs I will notify the brand to ensure they have not had this problem also. Thanks again for the review Neal

"Dont Waste Your Money - No Ice No Elevator"

1
27/07/2018

We stayed at this hotel in Historical Williamsburg 7/26 approx 10:30 pm to 7/27 11:00 am, and was disgusted. The staff was not helpful, the floors and bathroom were not clean. The papers on the desk had been wiped around with smears of cleaner, in a very sad attempt to dust, leaving prior guests cup rings still. Ice machine and elevator did not work. Did allow pets and though Booking.com didn't indicate there was an additional $20 fee, I understand why there was for some people (not my trained 15 year old Chihuahua, but others), as one untrained dog guest did leave poop in hallway and it was there when I took my dog out and came back in. And there was Housekeeping staff in the hall chatting. No one attempted to clean. Also, because we had a pet (I assume) we were put in the ground floor level, which smelled of mold and piss. Additionally, I didnt like the blank stare from the desk clerk when I was telling her about Housekeeping knocking on the door at 10:20 am to "see if we were still there", so she could clean, when there was CLEARLY a Do Not Disturb sign on the door. Very Rude...and disrespectful. Only good part of our stay was the breakfast ladies. They were nice and very interactive with the guests. Overall, we are extremely disappointed we wasted the money for a 12 hour stay in such a despicable place.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry we could not make your stay a great one. Pets are 20 a night extra and it is on every web site as an additional charge. The elevator is up and running. We just replaced the entire system and it went into operation Friday the36th at noon. I have some new exchange students in housekeeping and I checked that they know what the "do not disturb" sign means. They were trained but still there is a language barrier that I am responsible for and have daily meetings to continue to work with them. I am sorry and have just coached entire staff on the procedure. The ground level is the pet level and we try to keep pets seperate from other guest that might have allergies I am sorry for no ice - I did check and it is making ice. I have large signs that ask guest to come to the kitchen and we will fill coolers but often many do not pay attention and empty our machines - there is a period of recovery for ice to fill machine back up. If you do travel this way again please book direct with me on this email. Include this string and I will love to ensure your stay is a great one with you as my guest for the first day including breakfast. Thanks, Neal

"Perfectly Acceptable"

3
27/07/2018

This was a two night stay while visiting historic Wiliamsburg. First of all the hotel is very convenient for the historic district, being maybe ten minutes walk away. Don't expect five star accommodation, but this is perfectly acceptable. The room and bathroom were clean, the beds comfortable and there was tea and coffee making facilities, which are not always provided in the USA. Breakfast can be purchased for a reasonable fee and this wasn't bad. The staff everywhere are friendly and helpful. For those who want to swim, like me, the pool is very good, if somewhat cold. All in all a pleasant stay during a road trip in the USA.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. I will check the pool heater. We do keep it lower during the summer due to the heat outside. Normally we run it at 88 degrees but in the summer the setting is normally 78 degrees. I will move it a few degrees and make sure it is not too warm for other guest. Thanks again and look forward to your next visit. Neal

"location and price"

20/07/2018

The hotel has been recently renovated (this was a multi year process, i have stayed here several time over the last several years). Rooms are very comfortable. You will find it hard to beat the price for the location and quality of room. It is within walking distance to Historic Williamsburg and only a quick car ride to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. The hotel has been recently renovated (this was a multi year process, i have stayed here several time over the last several years). The attached restaurant is decent not 5 star but does have a full bar and decent menu with a breakfast buffet.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks, The hotel has done a complete remodel - we are in process of finishing restaurant and putting a new menu in. We are the closest hotel to the colonial village, only 2 blocks walking distance. Thanks again and looking forward to your next visit. Thanks, Neal

"Don't ...just don't."

15/07/2018

Other than location, I can't give you a reason to stay here. The elevator was out. They had workers starting at 7am and making noise. That is just one of the issues. The staff's signature response was “sorry about that”

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for the elevator issue. It broke down and the elevator company has been hard at work replacing it. It will be completed this Thursday. I am sorry that the staff seemed helpless in their answer. It is very hard for them when it is something out of their control and they want it fixed more than anyone. It seems 75% of the guest hold them responsible for it and continue to complain to them. They feel helpless and for that I am sorry it seemed they did not care when actually they care more than anyone it was broken Thanks Neal

"Worrisome experience."

14/07/2018

My granddaughter and I both got bed bug bits on our bodies. Had to debug everything when we got home. Roaches in room, halls. Carpet in hotel was usually dirty and unswept. Mold on tile and walls in bathroom. Just felt unclean and uncared for. Restaurant staff was great.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for bits and I have had our pest exterminator out to check all rooms. We did find an red ant issue in two rooms but so far we have had no reports of bed bugs from out pest control. I am sorry for the bites and will continue weekly with the pest control monitoring the rooms. No one hates a bed bug problem more than us - we go to great expense to ensure if someone brings them in we will attack the issue fully. They are brought in and not placed here by us - believe me. I will have the pest control check over again this week.

Of the under $100 a night hotels Best Wetern was the best. Easy check in, clean and friendly staff. Just wish every room had a microwave. Rooms very clean and wifi. Pretty quiet, but the elevator is under renovation.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thank you for understanding about the elevator. Most guest blame the employees, who want to please the guest more than anyone. My employees have felt helpless during this time when the elevator has been broken. It will be up and running like new this Thursday. I would like to extend to you a preferred pricing on your next visit. For not blaming the employee and hotel. Next visit please send to this email and add this email string to it. I will book you visit and make sure it is another great one at a preferred pricing. Neal

"Kinda dirty"

2
01/07/2018

We stayed here June 28 & June 29. This is the first Best Western I have stayed at where breakfast costs money!! $10 for a buffet. We didn't go so I can't review it. We hit McDonalds on the way to Busch Gardens! The carpet on the stairs in the lobby and hallways was very dirty. There was a pile of hair at the side of the pool (see pic). Rooms are dated, there's still popcorn ceilings. We stayed in room 310. The bathroom tub didn't drain correctly so water filled up in the tub while you showered. The tile seems to be growing mold or mildew(see pic). The WiFi didn't work the first night and the morning we we checking out, the cable stopped working! Sheets were clean and the refrigerator worked! I would recommend to look else where for a place to stay!

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
We have a full service restaurant attached to the building. Most hotels build in the cost of breakfast. Here if you do not want to eat breakfast you are not charged automatically into the rate. Breakfast Rate "B" is only 10.00 more and everyone in the room to eat a hot full service breakfast. I am sorry for the hair at the pool - Utility makes their round about every 30 minutes to an hour and will catch items like this that guest make. Thanks Neal

"Not a Good Stay"

2
26/06/2018

The rooms are clean but Wi-Fi service was spotty and sometimes our own phone service did no go through (we were told it had to do with our room location), no breakfast served (but they offered a $10 voucher to feed everyone in the room), the elevators were out of service, not much communication regarding the cause for the fire alarm that went off twice the same night, the rooms are a bit outdated ( but expected for BW), the overall condition of the hotel needed some TLC. The service was average, but they have a decent size swimming pool.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for phone service - the front desk gave the wrong information - we have a very expensive system with 47 stste of the art access points in the hotel. I will look into this. There was a problem with verizion where that weekend someone cut a fiber line and service to the entire area was out for 14 hours. So if you were verizion this was the problem - I am having it checked anyway. Sorry about the elevator - I have the best company working the problem and it will be fixed shortly. The fire alarm went off due to rain leaking on a sensor - not a fire. It is good to know that the system works for an emergency and I am sorry for the issue. Neal

"OK place to stay"

23/06/2018

We stayed for one night while attending a music festival. The only elevator was out of order so we had to take the stairs to our room on the fourth floor. It was a bit of of a walk down hallways just to get to the stairwell. The rugs in the hallways looked a bit scruffy which made me wonder about the condition of the room. Howevr, the room was neat and clean and there was plentiful hot water in the shower, and the a/c worked great.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for elevator - A new lift shaft is being installed and will be done shortly. I am sorry for the trouble it caused you.. I am glad the rest of the visit was great and look forward to your next stay. Most guest would not understand as well as you have. Next visit please use this email string and book direct with me. I will make sure everything is great and will extend a cost saving offer to you for the understanding. Thanks Neal

"Pet friendly hotel"

4
21/06/2018

This was our second stay at this hotel and it is perfect as a home base for exploring Williamsburg. The hotel is pet friendly, which is a must for us. The GM greeted us personally and the staff was very friendly. The elevator is out of service but it did not affect us as pet friendly rooms are on the first floor.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. We are putting a ew elevator that is almost complete - should happen any day but we are at the mercy of the contractors. We have provided bellmen to assist with luggage and system will be 100 operational any day. Thank, Neal Being a pet lover myself and only 2 blocks ( walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg, we say "don't leave loved ones at home they are welcome here"

"Awful service"

19/06/2018

Had to wait 21/2 hours for room was told sheets hadn't arrived elevator is broken dining room ceiling started pouring rain in from celiling will not stay here again restaurant doesn't open till 5 but is not open on Sunday and even though room service is advertised they don't have it

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Sorry it was not a pleasant visit. We did have a major storm blow thru that took part of the restaurant surface off the roof - for that I am sorry and being a religious person I am sure God is sorry too. Check-in time is 4 and we stay busy so if you tried before 4 there was no way you get you into the room. We have had limited modified hours so the restaurant roofers can replace the new roof - reason you stated above with the dripping is the reason we are replacing the entire new roof and all HVAC packets. Thanks Sorry If you would like to try us again please book direct with us and I will make sure your experience is great. Neal

Well we wanted to go swimming and we did go in the pool but the pool felt like ice. It was not heated like they said. . It was nice having breakfast but the lady working there did not have silver wear in the buffet or the orange juice out so we were not happy about that. We had to wait for our silver wear We stayed here to go to Busch Gardens which is not far away. Some days the breakfast was cold

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry about the breakfast and I will make sure that the cold does not happen again. We are only 2 miles and close to Busch Gardens - I hoped rain did not interfere with day visit to Gardens. Pool normally is heated during Fall thru Spring - Summer time the room and sun normally heats the pool to 80 degrees - I did check and we are at 78 degrees - so we ill get up to 80 and then let sun do its job. Otherwise when we heat to 88 degrees with heater and then add sun we get complaints it is too hot. Thanks, Neal

01/06/2018

We decided last minute to start our beach vacation a day early. Figured Williamsburg was a great stopping point. Found this hotel online. Booked a queen room with two queen beds. Easy check in, quick & efficient. Friendly staff, very helpful with any questions you may have. Kids went straight to the ginormous indoor pool. Lots of seating around the pool & pool towels available. Comfy beds, only downside is the bathroom is pretty tiny. Clean rooms. Nice stopping point. Would love to come back & take the kids to Colonial Williamsburg. Sorry the picture of the bed is slightly messy, we'd already curled up in it ??

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. We are the closest hotel to Colonial only a 2 block walk. We are only 2 miles from Busch Gardens and Water country USA. Looking forward to your return visit. Thanks, Neal

This hotel is located very conveniently to the Colonial Williamsburg area and Busch Gardens. It was the perfect place for us to base our Williamsburg Vacation. The staff, especially Judya and Neal are delightful.

Thanks for the great review. We are the closest hotel to the colonial properties and only 2 miles in other direction to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. Thanks for review and visit - I will make sure my Team knows of your great stay. Thanks, Neal

"Wedding Room Block Nightmare"

1
28/05/2018

This might have been the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. My fiancé and I booked this hotel for a friend's wedding. It was a room block option and at a good price for the holiday weekend. When I booked the hotel I called to confirm that we could check in early because we were taking the red eye from San Francisco and the wedding was at 2pm. I was told at time of booking that it would not be a problem and even called last week prior to our travel to make sure that it wouldn't be an issue for us to change and shower. We arrived at 10am and were abprubtly told that it wasn't going to happen and that we would have to wait until the room was clean. I explained our situation to multiple staff with no help or concern from any one. We sat in the lobby in front of the check in desk for THREE AND A HALF hours waiting for our room. Not only did we miss our friend's wedding ceremony I saw a number of other guests receive their hotel keys. When I asked if we could move rooms to a one that was cleaned and ready, the woman at the front told me we had to wait for the room that was assigned to us. To make matters worst, when our room was ready, shower towels were not available so we were given pool towels as supplement with promises to replace them. This didn't happen. To make matters worst the shower wouldn't drain and there was black mold on to ceiling. When we did return from what portion of the wedding we did make, we asked for a late check out (noon instead of eleven) due to our flight plans. Not only was I cut off mid sentence by the night clerk that this wasn't an option, as I started to walk away from the desk he turned to who I can only assume was his manager and asked if "he did good" telling me no and denying my request. I have never in my life have been treated so rudely and dealt with such lack of customer service from start to finish. Our family will be crossing Best Western off of our list of hotel options for future travel plans.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry about your room for the weekend. I see there was 2 rooms booked here for the wedding. I am sorry that it caused you so much panic and worry. We had a unique equipment situation which has been fixed and corrected. I am coaching my front line people about how we could have moved you to another room to see if we could have done better. There were several groups with room blocks that required them to stay together as a school group for group security reasons. That is reason more room shifting could not be done to get you in right away. I am sorry and if you do wish to try us again please book direct with me so I can make sure I take personal care of you. Thanks, Neal

"Not Happy!"

2
28/05/2018

I stayed at this location over the Memorial Day weekend and overall appearance is ok but when I walked in the room I was not impressed. The door to the bathroom is weirdly location where you cannot shut the door if you are in front of the toilet. I also found a roach on the carpet. I called reception and they said they would handle that as well as the drain in the bath tub. They did not! The password given had the incorrect password in it. The ac in the lobby wasn't on or was on low when it was 91 outside. I was displeased with my stay to say the least.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for the non response on the Tub. I have tried the password on the front desk and it is the correct password and has worked on several phones here at the front desk - I will send this to Best Comm IT department to see if they have any answers. We have a full time pest control service that have already gone thru your room and it is clear of anything - sorry. If it is really hot and doors are left open at heavy check in it does tend to warm up. But the HVAC units are new and recover quickly. Please book direct with me in the future and I will be able to personally ensure a great stay. Thanks Neal

"Brilliantly located to visit Williamsburg"

Wonderfully comfortable stay. This hotel is so close to the historic area of Williamsburg that we walked there. The hotel is well furnished and comfortable. It has a fantastic pool and serves a wonderful buffet breakfast. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the great review. I am happy we could serve you and look forward to more visits. We are the closest hotel to Colonial Williamsburg only a 2 block walk and only 2 miles from Busch Gardens or Water Country USA. Thanks again and looking forward to next visit. Thanks Neal

"Great Location"

27/05/2018

We just returned from our Memorial Day weekend trip and overall it was fine. One issue was house keeping came around at 9AM each morning knocking on the door when we were trying to sleep in just a little. The hot water did go out and they had it back by the next day which I know things happen. The location is great as it's walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg and about a 5 min drive to Busch Gardens and about 15 min to Jamestown Settlement so the location is hard to beat. We would stay again on our next trip.

Thanks for the great review and thank you for understanding that problems do happen beyond the control of the staff. Most people would blame my Team but you have an understanding and realize that the people here are trying to overcome and make your stay the best. Please use this email for your next visit and book direct with me. For being so understanding and not blaming my Team, on their behalf and mine, I would like to offer the first night stay on the Team here at the Best Western. They worked hard and were able to take care of you and now I would like you to stay the first night on us for being so understanding and blaming the gas problem on the equipment and not my people. Thanks again Looking forward to your next visit, Neal

This is a really nice hotel and well located for access to not only Colonial Williamsburg but Jamestown and Yorktown. My room was clean, quiet and the bed was comfortable. There were several bus tours of school children that arrived during my stay. Fortunately the staff seemed well versed in handling these challenges. I timed my breakfast after their 8:00 departures and found the restaurant to be fully recovered from the onslaught and the buffet fresh.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. I am glad we made your stay a pleasant one. My Team prides itself in the handling of group visits so they do not disturb our other guest. We are the closest hotel to the Colonial Village only 2 block walk. My Team is able to handle most situations with ease. Thanks again and I look forward to your next visit, Neal

The room we had was clean. This is an older hotel. The bathroom is very small. If you have issues with small spaces like me you probably won't close the door to the bathroom. Called the front desk several times when the code we were given for WiFi didn't work and got NO answer. I walked down to the front desk and NO one was there. Called out...Hello, no answer. Waited 10 minutes and NO one showed up. Asked a guest if they knew the code for the WiFi. The gym is small but adequate. There's a TV in there but NO remote :(. For an additional fee of $10.00 per person you can enjoy an all you can eat buffet in the morning. Our server Ms. V. was very friendly and attentive both days we ate there. She warned us that there was a bus load of children coming in so we may want to get to the buffet early. It's very close to Colonial Village and the Outlets. I'm not sure if I would stay there again, but not a bad place. When we checked out I was going over our bill I noticed that there was a charge for Thursday the day we checked in (check in is 4:00 pm) we were charge $20 for the buffet for day we checked in. When I asked the manager why would we be charged for a buffet on that day I was informed that that was normal procedure (side eye). We informed her we would NOT be paying for something we did not receive. We requested a new bill and remove that amount which she did. NOTE ~ Pay attention to your bill before leaving the hotel, even though you can call back and have them adjust your bill if needed.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for the problem with the bill - I am glad that she corrected the issue. I am in process - normally unless emergency we always have a person at the desk 24 hours a day. For this I am sorry and will check. Thanks Neal

Staff was excellent. Mrs. Debra in Group sales was wonderful. Vanessa and her eam was outstanding in getting our breakfast of 180 plus 5th graders and parents ready. The salad and pizza party was very good.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you so much for the great review. We are looking to your return next year. I will let Vanessa know she made your stay a great one. - WE have two large pizza ovens and a great recipe - the kitchen can feed many with their equipment. Thanks, Neal

The rooms were clean, staff helpful, and facilities fantastic. Located off the eastern edge of the Williamsburg Historic District, this hotel will be mu first choice on future visits. The breakfast was not complimentary, but with the price, it was reasonable with decent food.

nchalkley, Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. We are the closest hotel to the Colonial Area - just a short two block walk and we are only two miles from Busch Gardens in the opposite direction. We do not include breakfast to keep rates at lower cost - for 10 dollars more you can get the breakfast included rate - rate "B". This will cover all people in the room - children included for just 10 dollars. Thanks Neal

Great location: a mile or so from Colonial Williamsburg. Hotel is old and needs some updating; rooms are clean and staff friendly. We spent a week here with a Road Scholar group and a number of meals were at the hotel: 6 breakfasts; 2 lunches and 3 dinners. Food was good but Vanessa, the restaurant manager, was outstanding andbmade everyone feel at home.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the visit and I will make sure Vanessa knows she did a wonderful job of serving you. We are the closest hotel to the Colonial area just a 2 block walk and you are were it all began - our country. Thanks Again, Neal

Very nice hotel Directly between Busch and a short walk into the Colonial Town. Restaurant on premises, Indoor pool and My favorite ,,,,Pet Friendly. Nice and very clean rooms with a Friendly staff. worth it.

Thanks for review. We are a very pet friendly hotel - an entire floor is dedicated to this so that they do not disturb other guest. We are the closest hotel to town. Neal

"Odd pool addition. Unprofessional staff. Connected to an odd restaurant/bar for breakfast options."

16/04/2018

Unprofessional. Purchased a rate with breakfast but the buffet was not good. Sausage Patty's were like rocks and the donuts were not fresh. Eggs were watery and old. Pool is older and in an odd addition, connected to the main building. No hot tub.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry about breakfast and I will get with the kitchen to see what happened. - normally we excel in the restaurant. Pool has just been resurfaced and has been in the center location of the hotel for 42 years. It is a large pool and has direct indoor access from first floor and a short walk thru on second floor. - It was built when the bui;lding was built and I am not sure why it seems odd. Sorry, Neal

I am sorry we did not meet expectations. Laundry checks sheet daily for any stain and we replace - I will talk with laundry to make sure we are doing a good follow up on all linen. Sorry for the less than perfect visit. Please book with me direct in the future and I will ensure items are perfect. Neal

16/04/2018

We arrived a couple of hours early and the manager graciously arranged for us to access a cleaned room. The room was large enough to accommodate 2 adults and 2 semi-rambunctious boys. The room was quiet, clean, comfortable and contained all of the usual amenities. I will say of the four of us, 3 of the 4 of us had difficulty accessing phone internet from our room, but that was likely the location of our specific room. The indoor pool was greatly appreciated, though very busy. Management maintained a steady stream of fresh towels for the pool. In the time we were there we interacted with 5-6 different staff members, from managers to custodial. All were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The hot breakfast bar was plentiful. This hotel was easy to find. Was this hotel luxurious? No, but it was excellent value for the money.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. I will make sure the staff knows the interaction with you was very important to your visit. I am happy we kept the pool towels stocked - this time of year with the busy hotel it takes constant monitoring to ensure guest satisfaction. I cannot wait for your return visit. Thanks again and hope to see you again soon. Neal

""hum ha" ... it's okay"

When one writes a review, I feel it is important to base that review on what one gets for what one paid and where. This is not a negative review, although, it may be perceived as such. Let get this out of the way. This is not a 5 Star hotel and it is not marketed as such. Any of the issues I may have are certainly correctable. The hotel was worth the price paid so that makes it a good value for anyone interested. ACCOMMODATIONS Our room was located on the first floor, which is NOT where the lobby is located apparently, but I suppose "stowage" or "sub-level" aren't marketable terms either. Upon check-in near midnight, we were sent around to the side of the building which also happens to be at the back. Given the grand staircase in the foyer, one might make the mistake in feeling that first floor rooms aren't quite so ordinary. Arriving near midnight, the sign on the motion sensitive door was obvious. It was supposed to be secured from 11pm until 7am with key card access. Access remained active for the duration. Cellular service was nearly nonexistent in room 164. My son's mom thought his phone was dead when she couldn't reach him. I had to walk to other end of the corridor and stand outside to make a phone call. Utilizing the WiFi was a necessity. Wireless internet speed was more than adequate. The view was nothing to write home about. Open the curtain and take in the view of brick and stair. The bed and pillows were my kind of comfortable. Beds are a personal thing, so let's just say, I liked them. There is no microwave, so consider that with leftovers. The television actually has a full set of cable channels. This is a rarity! I'm tired of summary channels over a satellite signal. The hotel feels aged. Review photographs for reference. I left the drywall screw my foot found under the desk next to the television (see picture). DOGS...ever so present. Next door or down the halls. You'll know they're there. Guess that's what they mean by pet friendly. BAR & GRILL Skipped it. The reviews didn't inspire hope, so my son and I ate off property. POOL The pool is housed in a greenhouse in the courtyard. The path from the first floor to the lobby goes ONE way around the pool house. Lesson learned. "No one under the age of 16 is permitted in the pool area without parent or guardian" and "Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult." The benefit of no oversight is a policy easily ignored...as was the case. PARKING Watch where you park along the western-most side of the building; where the first floor entrance is at. There are tall coniferous trees with decent size pine cones. If you love your car as much as I love mine, then you'll park elsewhere.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for the review. We have just finished a major remodel and are hard at work on the details now. WE are a split level building and the pet area is on the first floor as to keep other guest that might have allergies separated. I agree and we are hard at work on the details. We will not stop until all details are met. Thanks for the insight and I will certainly take your comments and put them to good use. When you return please book direct with me using this email string and I will make sure all is great and can give you an option of rooms that can meet your needs. Thanks Neal

Rooms were nice and clean and spacious. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom needs updated around the toilet where the floor is rough, but it was clean. The bathroom is really small. When we checked in the manager made a comment about the 400 kids that were on there way which freaked us out. But he did put us on the top floor at the end of the hall and other than the fact that the pool was overrun, we would not have known the kids were there. We switched to this hotel from another because it had a restaurant on site. However, it is closed on Mondays. That should really be disclosed. The hotel switched from had breakfast which I would have thought was pretty standard at Best Western and was in an area of restaurants. Instead we had to hunt for one. I would not choose to stay here again. It was close to Williamsburg but not significantly closer than the other Best Western we originally booked.

"Overall--OK--But Lots to Things to Nitpick"

3
18/03/2018

I booked this hotel and took advantage of the lower rate offered for a non-cancellable reservation to attend a dog-sports event that I was sure my husband and I would go with our two Schnauzers unless weather dictated otherwise.. I needed a pet-friendly hotel that offered a "pet-friendly," accessible room so made sure to specifically book such a room when I made the reservation--weeks in advance of the scheduled event. We got there to discover that the hotel had booked us into a room on the second-floor, definitely *not* pet-friendly for hauling crates and the other accouterments needed to care for the dogs. The front desk changed the room to one on ground level, but it was *very* small and cramped. This after waiting for the front desk to get things straightened out after a long drive where we arrived after 10 PM and after I had called the hotel to tell them of our expected late arrival and to ensure that they would hold a pet-friendly room. We were next to a courtyard in the middle of which was an enclosed swimming pool with very bright outdoor and indoor lighting. The existing curtains on the window did nothing to shut out the light shining into the room when it came time to turn in for the night. The walls were paper-thin; I could hear people in the adjacent rooms--so could our dogs, who barked in response, though they're usually good at keeping quiet. The room was too warm, so I tried unsuccessfully to adjust the thermostat; eventually the heat was turned off, we relying on the bed linens to keep warm. They were thin and didn't do a great job of retaining body heat. We wanted to leave a wake-up call for early morning, but found the phone had no connection. Went to get ice from the machine--it's not working. There were just lots of things to nitpick that when put together made for an overall aggravating experience.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry that you were on second floor. Our pet floor is the first floor but when we fill there we end extending the rooms up on the side of the second floor. I checked the ice machines and all but one (which someone unplugged - it is working after plug in) are working - we had several large groups and even though there is a sign no ice for cooler I understand we caught several people filling coolers. I am surprised at the black out curtains and will check tonight to see that they do black out - they are new and this is first complaint that they do not black out. There additional blankets on the front desk and should have been one in the rooms. Sorry and will focus on the nitpicks, Neal

Came for 2 nights. Hotel was clean and quiet! Housekeeping was amazing and went above and beyond expectations and Charles at the front desk was EXCELLENT! He went above and beyond with every customer I saw him interact with including myself! Will definitely be staying here from now on! Everyone here is friendly and definitely enjoys their jobs! It was cold out and we got to use the indoor heated pool which was as well clean!

We stayed here for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. My family were ill and ended up missing most of Williamsburg, opting to stay in bed most of the duration. Beds were clean, very comfortable, bathrooms were small but clean and well renovated. We are used to suites so we took up two adjoining rooms. Both were clean and quiet- even next to the elevator. The staff and management were thoughtful, kind, and accommodating to our situation- giving us excellent service for a very reasonable price. They even gave my 2 yr old daughter a plush animal and tiny bottles of water that she loves. Breakfast was made to order with fresh eggs, sausage or bacon, skillet potatoes with cheese, onions, and peppers... all delicious. Small lobby, though huge pool house. Very nice exterior garden - even in winter. We are diamond members and travel a lot. We recommend this hotel. ***fyi - we downloaded a white noise app which is great in busy hotels to drown out ambient noise.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thank you so much for the great review. I do remember talking with you at the front desk. We had a great conversation at the end of your visit and I am interested in the hotel photography that you and your husband do. Thanks again for the stay and I am looking both to your return first and the possibility of doing a virtual tour of our hotel. Thanks again, Neal

Very good room rate for one night. The room was good value for a one stay/get away for my wife's birthday. The location was good. Plenty of eating places were close by since the restaurant was closed.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thank you for the great review. I am glad hotel was to satisfaction. I do apologize for the hours on the restaurant - We have just recently taken back the restaurant from a lease. During the winter season we taken take advantage of adjusted hours to fix equipment and to develop and soon to launch our new menu. Hours will be back to normal hours starting the end of the month. Thanks Neal

"Asians not welcome!"

03/03/2018

Stayed here as part of a stay-and-play soccer tournament. Check in experience was normal and rooms are the average you would expect for this budget hotel, especially if you are forced to stay in tournament assigned hotels. What was annoying though was the mentality and attitude of a front desk staff member. After two Asian families checked in as part of the tournament, I overheard the lady staff member tell her colleague "I hope they (the tournament hotel organizers) have not booked all Asians in our hotel". Definitely not a diversity inclusive hotel; if they cannot embrace diversity, they should not have chosen to be in hospitality business. We will definitely be in this area for future tournaments, but as far as I am concerned its "good riddance" to this specific hotel. They are many better options in this area.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I did some extensive checking the day you checked in in February and do apologize. The two people that were on the front desk were carrying on a separate conservation between themselves and the remark was taken out of context. I have coached them concerning personal conversations. The male desk clerk that was on duty is Asian/American and has been with me for 10 years without any incident of this nature. The female Desk Clerk on duty that day has direct relatives that are Asian. This leads me to believe even more that conversations can be taken out of context. I am glad the rest of the visit was satisfactory. Thanks, Neal

Overall hotel was in good condition. Restaurant was very limited. Did not eat there as no selection, only hot dog hamburger , or chicken nuggets. Breakfast also very limited. Was around Christmas and lots if other great options nearby. Staff was great. Had one issue heat did not work right. They attempted a fix right away. It worked room stayed relatively warm with it 15F out. Just switched it on and off once at night. Chose not to move rooms. Some rowdy guests smoking pot in hall, banging on doors. Stopped after complaints. Two nights in a row. Staff was very quick to stop it. They were quick to address any issues. Close, very short, couple blocks to colonial Williams burg. walking distance. The location is as good as high end very expensive in colonial Williamsburg at a fraction of the cost.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
New menu will be in place March. We just took restaurant back from lease and will have it is full service starting March. I am glad you let front desk know so we could control other guest. Often we do not hear until after the fact and then it is too late to make your stay the best. We are the closest hotel to the colonial area just a two block walk and only 2 miles from Busch Gardens. Thanks you for your visit and looking forward to your next stay. Thanks, Neal

"Last minute booking"

09/01/2018

This was just a short visit for us. We needed a place to stay since our condo reservation had gotten mixed up. We reserved our room a week prior to our stay. We had a small issue upon check-in because I used a booking site. Only one of their computers is set up to see reservation made through booking sites. Weird. I didn't particularly like that my husband had to stand in line twice because of this problem that wasn't our fault. It's a pretty long walk to the elevator. Not sure why it's set up the way it is, but it's not very efficient. Our room was clean. I always strip the beds to check for bugs and found none. It was pretty cold when we first walked in. We had to turn on the heat immediately. The bathroom was on the small side and the toilet was oddly low to the floor. We are Best Western reward members. It was nice that we were given complimentary bags when we checked in that had snacks in them. Overall, this wasn't the "best" Best Western we've ever been to. One highlight was that the woman that helped with breakfast was very friendly. Unfortunately, I didn't get her name.(We also weren't given our breakfast voucher when we checked in. I had to go to the front desk to fix this so that we didn't pay for breakfast twice.)

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for check in troubles. All computers are hook into all booking sites so I am not sure why that was said but I will get with front desk manager to see what the problem is. We do have a side enterance that you can park at and the elevator is right inside the door. I am glad the room was fine and the heat is kept at lower setting until you check in and then you set for your comfort. You are a preferred guest and we do a complinmentary elite member bag for every member. All Hvac are brand new so they will recover quickly. I will let Vanessa know (breakfast attendant) she did well. Again thanks for visit looking forward to next visit. Please ask for me and I will ensure a great stay, Neal

"Disappointing"

03/01/2018

The best thing about this hotel was its location. Unfortunately, we found that out after driving for 15 minutes back to the Williamsburg's Visitor Center. We asked at check-in how far was Colonial Williamsburg to walk and the girl behind the desk says at least 40 minutes, but there was a map on the other counter. She certainly was not helpful. We got to our room and was looking forward to a soak in the hot tub and a swim, so we quickly changed clothes. Once we got to the pool we did not see the hot tub, so my husband went to the desk to ask. He was told it disappeared 2 years ago. When he said it was on the website the clerk replied that we should complain to the booking site. He told them that we booked through the Best Western site and that the card in the room also gave instructions to parents about the hot tub! He got a "oh, we will have to look into that". This was a second person at the desk, who was not very helpful or friendly. We were very disappointed, since our plan was to relax and enjoy a quiet night! Best Western needs to check on customer service and follow through with what they offer.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry - the hot tub was removed 6 months ago and we have eliminated all on line references we did miss the one on the in room literature that states not children under 13 allowed in hot tub. I am having the in room directory corrected to eliminate this sentence. - Thanks You I have talked to front desk attendant and she does not recall 40 minutes to Colonial Williamsburg - actually we are only 4 minutes and walking distance to the Colonial Capital. You can see the colonial area from our front door. Again I am sorry and have talked with everyone to ensure this does not happen again. Neal

02/01/2018

Our stay was ok. We stayed the night on New Years Eve and it was a little noisy but that was to be expected. What wasn't expected was housekeeping knocking on doors at around 9 am for cleaning. Many people weren't even up yet. I wasn't and they woke me up.. That was unpleasant.. The room was pretty clean although it didn't look like it had been vacuumed.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review

This was a great value for a family get-away for the holidays. It was close to the sites and restaurants we wanted to see and to eat at. In Summer you could even walk to Colonial Williamsburg! I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone bringing the family to the area!

31/12/2017

I stayed here on a quick trip to Williamsburg and found the hotel through hotels.com for a very reasonable price. The staff were friendly and hospitable. The room was fairly comfortable (the bed and pillows could have been better), and the stay was a nice one. There's a pool and small fitness center as well. The hotel is also next door to a restaurant that you can access through the hotel, so it was convenient for me to find a place to eat upon checking in (that restaurant only offers about 4 choices, though, and largely fast food items). The hotel is conveniently located to colonial Williamsburg/the visitor's center (about 10 minutes) and a gas station (2-3 minutes) should you need it. It's also easily accessible from the highway. Altogether, a good choice for a quick (3 days, 2 nights) trip on your own.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the review. We are the closest hotel to the colonial section and as you said minutes away from all else. Looking forward to your next stay. Thanks Neal

This is a large hotel, well staffed and we enjoyed our stay. THe indoor pool was warm and clean. Our room was quiet, and comfy. The staff answered our questions and were helpful. Charles in charge was helpful and Chris knew the area well. We used reward points so I think we got the smallest room, but it was fine. I love a place where u can walk to places of interest.. this is not that, but still close enough.

The location is perfect; you can almost walk to historic Williamsburg. The bed was very comfortable. Everything looked clean to me, but then, I'm not a clean freak. Check-in, check-out fast and the staff friendly, if a little casual. The only downside is the bathroom - cramped and hard to use. The faucet barely stuck out beyond the edge of the sink. For the price and location, not a bad deal at all.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. Sorry about size of rest rooms - they di fit a standard pattern. We have just recently remodeled the bathroom with all new fixtures and did a complete grout and polish on all tubs. Thanks Neal

I stayed here while in town for business and was pleasantly surprised with this hotel. I usually stay with Hilton properties when I travel, but had heard good things about this hotel so thought I'd give it a try. The lobby was beautiful, the staff were super friendly and helpful, and the rooms were very clean and just gorgeous! You can tell they have put a lot into updating everything in the rooms. Internet was fast and reIt was one of the nicest rooms I've stayed in. It was very convenient to the Colonial Williamsburg area. Great restaurant and bar located in the hotel, made it very easy to grab dinner and a drink after a long day. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Thanks you so much for the great review. We have been working hard to make this the best hotel in town. We have had some great help from pour sister hotels also. Without the Team support we would not be in the great shape we are. THANKS AGAIN!!! Neal

Restaurant COLD. Was 59 degrees in restaurant. Was told neither AC nor heat had worked for months. My brother who is dependent on using a mobility scooter had made a reservation in August (4 months before arrival) for an ADA room but on arrival was told none was available. Overall has improved under BW.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Not sure who told you the HVAC has not worked for months. The heat was fine and on until Friday night. I had a HVAC tech out Saturday and he did not find the part until Sunday. He fixed Monday. I am sorry about ADA room - we have 5 available and the problem occurs when we get a person that will stay in the room without letting us know until that morning. I am sorry and will work with front desk to make sure the longest reservation out would get the room. Unless all others had checked in (which was the case with your reservation). Again I am sorry Thanks Neal

"Best pet-friendly hotel"

12/12/2017

We just spent three nights at this hotel. It's an easy five-minute walk to the historic District, which we loved. It was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. We have traveled with our dog for over two years and this was, by far, the nicest pet-friendly hotel we've used. One of the housekeepers, Alice, went out of her way to get to know our dog and us. I was very pleased with the price and what we got for it. We hope to return soon!

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
We will look forward to your return visit. Thanks you for the great comments. We believe no loved one (Dog) should be left behind and they deserve to vacation and have fun also. I will let Alice know that she played a big part in your great stay. THANKS!!!!! Neal

Love that you can walk to the colonial area from the hotel. Good value, and we do appreciate our dog being welcomed, though $20 extra per night for one pet seemed high since all the pet rooms were in the ground level rooms wth older fixtures. Staff very friendly.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks so much for the great review - we do believe in bring the loved ones (pets) along. We are the closest hotel to the colonial section in Williamsburg and just 2 miles from Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. Looking forward to your next visit, Neal

Food was sorry and pool water was like warm could've been better. They could've had the pool room heated since the walk was very cold. The room smelled like bleach feet and it took a while for the heat to kick in. But my daughter's enjoyed their self for the birthday weekend.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Tee pool is at 87 degrees and stays that for the entire winter. I will keep a daily check to make sure it is not cutting off for any reason. But right now it is at temperature. I am glad for your daughter's stay and wish her Happy Birthday!!!! Thanks Neal

"Great value"

05/12/2017

I have stayed at this hotel in the past and the staff is always very friendly and helpful. It's an older motel but the rooms are clean and the beds are clean and comfortable. You can see some wear and tear on the trim/doorways but that is to be expected with a place as old as this one. Close to the historic district and lots of shopping and restaurants. Overall a pleasant experience.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for review and I appreciate the great comments about the hotel. We are older but have completely renovated the building and my Team is very proud of their location and their service. Thanks again and looking forward to your return visit, Neal

"Great Stay close to Historic District & Busch Gardens"

5
04/12/2017

The hotel location was great, it was a quick drive to Busch Gardens and walking distance from the Historic District. The staff was friendly and offered some great recommendations for restaurants. The rooms were clean and fairly modern, this is a budget hotel so I would say that it exceeded my expectations.I would definitely recommend to a friend and would stay there again!

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for a great review. We have spent a great deal of time and funds to improve the hotel to a beautiful place to visit. Your comments mean a lot to me and my Team - they work so hard to serve our guest. I am happy that you feel we are a great price value also. Looking forward to your return, Neal

"great value in this area- GPS directions inconsistent"

03/12/2017

The staff here were lovely and helpful and the rooms were nice and clean. Theres a nice pool which was lovely in July. It has a breakfast bar that's pretty decent actually- and if you have it included- id certianly take advantage of it. BW its close by several good eateries and not far from a shopping center or two. It's up the street a couple miles from colonial williamsburg- not close enough to reasonably walk (far as im concerned) but its inexpensive for a cab and not many miles for your rental car. The GPS directions into the place are not good (or werent when we were there). The hotel is fairly far set back from the main road, and there's a tiny sign at the main road that you'll miss. The GPS directions also told us that it was on the opposite side of the main road (like In the Cracker Barrel), instead of the side it's on (more across the main street from it).

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for the review - I wrote Trip Advisor to let them know that you actually stayed at the hotel across town - the Best Western on By Pass Road. I have notified them also. I am glad our Best Western products and their staff took great care of you. Neal

"Stayed for a soccer tournament "

3
24/11/2017

We went to Williamsburg for a soccer tournament and our team had to stay at this hotel. It was a little dated and the rooms were ok. The breakfast in the lobby wasn't the greatest and front desk staff wasn't very friendly. The lady that took care of our room was great and super friendly but I definitely wouldn't choose to stay here next visit

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the review. The lobby breakfast is a continential limited breakfast. We do have a full breakfast available to purchase in the restaurant. I will pass on the comment to my housekeeper and let her know that she did a great job. Thanks Neal

"Smoke smell"

2
23/10/2017

The non smoking room had clearly been occupied by a smoker. It wasn't aired out. We were there during a busy weekend so I was greateful fir the room, but disappointed in the quality of cleanup. Otherwise, high level service at mid-level motel.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks your for the great comments concerning my staff. I am sorry that the guest before smoked in a nonsmoking hotel ignored our policies. I have checked your room and I am sorry for the situation. I do not understand guest that do not care about guest that follow that do not smoke - I am a non-smoker. I will let me staff know that they did all to make you happy and this one just got past us when checking rooms. Next time you visit please use my email address when booking and I will be happy to have you as my guest. This is not what we want to happen and will look forward to the chance to serve you again and I will personally be checking your room. Thanks, Neal Chalkley

"Less than mediocre hotel"

2
23/10/2017

We booked two rooms here for a family trip to Busch Gardens, and our usual choice was booked. This hotel had lackluster staff, confusing layout to elevator and rooms, and very strong paint fume odors in one of the rooms made it difficult to sleep.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for the paint fumes. We had a room that required painting and had not cured long enough and for that I accept responsibility. I will talk with my staff normally we are known for our great service so I will check to see who might not have been on their A game. For this visit I am sorry but if you would like to try us again please book direct using my email. Send your response email along with request and I will personally ensure a great stay take extra care of you. Thanks, Neal Chalkley

"Great location & Value"

5
23/10/2017

We recently stayed in October 2017. You could tell the motel had been remodeled recently and was very nice. The staff was very friendly. The bed was so comfortable. The shower was great and had plenty of hot water. We have been to Williamsburg many times through the years and had never stayed on this side of town and the location was incredible. It is pet friendly with a large area of grass for the dogs. We will come back to stay here again. The only negative would be the toilet was so low and it took a long time for hot water to arrive in the sink.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. I will check you room for the low toilet issue and fix ASAP. I am proud of my Team and we are known for a very friendly professional interaction with our guest. I have one area for pets and this way they do not disturb the other guest that might have allergies. We are the closest hotel to town and minutes away from Busch Gardens, Water Country USA and Jamestown Settlement. Thanks, Neal Chalkley

"Just average"

4
22/10/2017

There was a problem at check in they where prompt in fixing it. But the hotel offers no free continental breakfast just sad.The on-site restaurant offers comparable prices to eating out anywhere else in the area

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the review and thank you for the price comparison with area restaurants - we are very competitive with pricing. We do have a BW rate available for 10.00 additional dollars that will include any children staying under 12 free with the Breakfast Rate program "B". Looking forward to your next visit please ask for me and I will be glad to take you to breakfast for the constructive comments!!! Thanks Neal

"Great Value for the Price"

5
18/10/2017

The experience that put this hotel over the top was its friendly hotel staff. From housekeeping to maintenance, to the restaurant staff. and front desk, we were always treated with a smile and a willingness to accommodate whatever we needed. Another plus was its location to Colonial Williamsburg. It was within walking distance. We were so glad that our tour program chose this hotel.

"Great Value for a Simple Stay"

4
14/10/2017

Very friendly staff, reasonably attractive rooms, "indoor" pool (the type of pool that has a glass "house" over it), priced for value. Walkable to the Capitol/Christiana Campbell's Tavern "end" of Colonial Williamsburg, convenient drive to Busch Gardens, also walkable to the Colonial Pancake House (our current favorite). Attached restaurant/bar. Excellent choice for families headed to the theme park.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review

14/10/2017

Perfect for a visit to the historic area. Close by, easy access, very comfortable . Will keep this in mind for future trips. Excellent value. Can't think of anything that could have made it a more enjoyable experience unless I had brought my swimsuit

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review

"Less than expected"

2
13/10/2017

In full disclosure, we purchased the one night stay as a Groupon because we were planning a last minute trip to Williamsburg. We had never stayed at this hotel before but knew that it was centrally located to where we wanted to be. We researched the hotel a bit and based off of the pictures, decided this would be more than what we were looking for in a one night stay. After we checked-in and went to the room, we were taken aback. Carpet was dirty, room was in poor repair, and it looks like it had been neglected for some time. Because we checked-in late and were only staying one night, we decided to stay. I only realized what happened when I came home. They put us in a pet friendly room. The rooms pictured on the website are the regular rooms on the higher floors. To the best of my knowledge, this information was not disclosed to us. I am disappointed that the potential for being placed in a pet friendly room was not disclosed to us. As well as the fact that the pet friendly rooms are in such poor repair. We visit the Williamsburg area at least twice a year and this hotel will not be under our consideration again.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry that you got a pet room and had not requested it. We have our pet rooms listed with GDS as Pet Friendly and are a separate code with a P attached for just such purposes. I am sorry that we put you in a pet room and could have moved you the second day upon request. If you do visit us again please book direct using this email and I will make sure you are not is a pet room and have a great stay. Neal Chalkley - GM

I will let my Team know your experience. We try to make this a home away from home. I will tell Alice at stand up today that her caring made your time a great one at our place. Thanks again and we look forward to your next visit. Thanks, Neal

"BEST VALUE IN TOWN"

4
11/10/2017

The Best Western in Williamsburg Historic District is definitely the best value with exception quality. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. The location was just minutes to Colonial Williamsburg Historic District. The only negative was breakfast was an additional charge however I have found that most of the good hotels in Williamsburg do not offer this amenity.. I highly recommend this Best Western

This Best Western used to be the Clarion Hotel. There have been some renovations with the change in corporations. The staff is extremely friendly and understanding. This hotel is the perfect place to stay and visit Williamsburg. Also this weekend the Arts Festival was there with a Great many booths to visit. This is a relatively new property and is experiencing growing pains. With a GM like Neil, a Mgr like Charles, and front desk personnel like Judy, it will not take long for this property to be operating like a well oiled machine. I highly recommend this property.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review

"Great experience"

20/09/2017

Friendly, personal staff in a sharp-looking hotel. Comfy beds, great check in and out experience, terrific pool perfect for lap swimming. Some older features have been updated and they are making a tremendous effort to make this a great hotel experience. A service dog left in the next room barked constantly and they moved me with great sympathy and concern. I skipped the breakfast but walked into Williamsburg--great location, though I still drove into town for the day. I was impressed, especially for the price point, and will definitely return.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
THANKS you for the great review. I am sorry we had to move you and glad they took good care of you. We are pet friendly and normally keep pets assigned to pet rooms on first floor so they will not disturb other guest. But often guest will sneak them in and when we discover this has happened we will move and do all to make sure you stay is a great one. I look forward to your next stay with us. This was a one night stay with our dog who does not want to be left behind or alone. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. There was a very nice paved walkway across the street. We should have stayed longer to use some of the amenities.

"W&M Parents Weekend"

4
18/09/2017

Hotel was clean and staff extremely courteous and helpful but what we appreciated most was the fact that you did not double or triple your rates during Parents Weekend which the other name brand hotels did. We will stay with you again because of that.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you so much. My daughter just graduated from Va. Tech. It just upset me when they would do that to me. Offer a parents weekend and then try to take us to cleaners. Our price does change with certain events but we are here to serve you and not take advantage. I know your child will do well at W&M it is a great school and you should be a really proud parent. The hotel was nice, The room quite satisfactory. The TV, and internet worked will. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was very clean and the shower was very good. "comfortable and convenient"

3
04/09/2017

Wish I could do 3.5 stars...this is a pet friendly hotel that is convenient to downtown historic Williamsburg and Busch Gardens / Water Country. I believe all the pet friendly rooms are on the first floor and one of the staff introduced herself on the 2nd day of our 2 night stay that she was a pet sitter and for $10 would walk your pet every 3 hours while you were out. That's cheaper and more convenient that taking advantage of the BG Pet Kennel which costs $10/day+ premium parking which is an additional $20 or $30. But do you trust someone to come into your room to walk your pet? Our room was updated but needed some finer points - the caulk was crumbling in the door frame in the bathroom and there were some water stains in the bathroom celiling, no bathroom fan - but functional, comfortable and clean. The indoor pool is large and there was no one there! Towels and lounge chairs are provided. There was also a nice hotel gym. There is a good sized in room refrigerator but no freezer compartment. In room coffee maker is tiny but there is coffee in the lobby. Plenty of parking and sidewalks to walk your dog. All said, we'd definitely stay there as a pet friendly option in the future.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for visiting with us. We are very close to all attractions and walking distance to the colonial district. The "pet Whisper" is an added addition to our services and she is amazing with all the pets. I often have to meet them all when she walks them -she loves to show them off and often brings them into my office. Our saying is no one should leave their "loved ones done" at home. WE are working on the little detail left and will continue until all is as new. Thanks again for the visit and look forward to seeing you and you "loved one" soon. Neal

Needs help and a makeover. Tub faucet leaks, tub needs to be re-grouted. Toilet does not always flush completely. Linens are old and worn. SMELLS and has roaches. WI-Fi does not work TV has a distorted picture.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry we could not meet your expectations. I have a monthly pest control service and we monitor constantly. Often they will be brought into our home and we attack the very same day with a professional service. Linens were all just purchased within two months and are a 250 thread count , so I am not sure what happened there but I am checking into it.. WiFI is new and has an access point at the door of every four rooms - 42 to be exact and I run 300 down and 100 up on Cox Cable. I will be having IT tech run a test today to see if there are any drop offs. At times the provider Cox does drop off but that has been so few and far apart and we will notify rooms of the temp loss of service from them. I will check this out. Thanks Neal

I couldn't wait to get back to the hotel! Very comfortable and inviting! This hotel was pet friendly and if you hadn't seen the pets or read about it you wouldn't have known. The staff was great; especially the lady at check out! She made me laugh!!!

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
THANKS for the great review. It is always nice meet or exceed expectations. We do believe you should not leave loved one's behind - we have on floor dedicated to pets. This way it does not disturb other guest in the hotel. Thanks Neal

27/08/2017

Hotel needs a overhaul, a little pricey to feel like I'm staying at a cheap motel. Could not close the bathroom door or you would be stuck in there forever becaue the door didn't open and close properly. The hotel lobby was great. Staff was great, but hotel itself I will never stay at again. It smelled like mildew.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thank you kind comments for staff and features. I am sorry about the bathrooms door and I have maintenance working on it right now. Again I am sorry for the sturck door and it is being repaired. Thanks, Neal

24/08/2017

We spent one night here during a road trip and, in our opinion, it was a really great value. Reasonably priced, very friendly front desk staff, clean pool with towels available at the poolside, clean rooms, comfortable beds, good location. I'd stay here again on a future trip.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thank you for the review!! Yes we are the closest hotel to the colonial section - walk 2 blocks and you are in middle of town. We look forward to your next visit Thanks, Neal

22/08/2017

My fiancé and I recently stayed with our dog. When we got to our original room the door was opened and there was an odd smell. We called the front desk and they moved us to another room. The room we then moved to was fine, however, the previous guest's clothes were still hanging in the closet. The attention to detail was what bothered me which is why I gave the hotel a 4/5. Overall, the room we stayed in was clean. The hotel is nothing special, but we were only there to sleep so it was no big deal. Would recommend and would stay again.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the review and I am digging into the cloths left in the room. Normally we do not miss these items. I am sorry and am personally coaching the housekeeper and inspector to ensure follow thru. When items are left, the housekeeper notifies the room inspector who then collects and logs the items by room to lost and found. Then they are delivered to front desk where they are placed in lost and found while we notify the previous guest. I am digging into where the breakdown occurred, I am glad we were able to make the visit a pleasant one and look forward to your next visit. Please ask for GM next visit so that I can meet and talk in person. I will make sure you visit will be a great one and I will personally take care of details to ensure a great visit. Thanks, Neal

My wife and I found the Best Western hotel in Williamsburg to be of very good overall quality and cleanliness and we would choose this hotel again. We spent the weekend in Williamsburg for our 54th anniversary, ate at our favorite restaurant, Aberdeen Barnes, and visited Jamestown (a must), and had an enjoyable experience.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thank you for the great review!. I am so happy your anniversary went so well. I too spent my anniversary at the same restaurant - I actually started there as buss boy at age 16. The Aberdeen barn has always been a favorite - the chef that currently works with us at the hotel , Father started the restaurant and was one of the first owners. I am so glad our hotel completed the weekend and looking forward to next years anniversary visit. Thanks again, Neal

Overall my stay at best western was good, again the hotel manager should be commended on taking care of guest issues . It was very nice of him to take the time to come to my room along with the executive house keeper!!

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am very glad we could be of service to you. Again I must say that when a customer brings the problem in the professional way with which Mr. Robertson did, it makes it easy and rewarding to correct and help the guest. When a problem occurs (we are not perfect) and a constructive direction is taken then all parties leave with a better experience. Please on your next visit to our hotel, use my personal email and allow me to book your stay - I will ensure the best rate possible and the best service. Again I thank you for being the type of guest that wants to help us to be better, Neal

hotel was nice. $11.95 for a mediocre breakfast was was the only letdown. We felt the breakfast was lacking in variety and quality for the price. Location was convenient to the historic sites . Also, the staff was v\\friendly and helpful. Overall, a good experience except for breakfast.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you so much for great review. We took over restaurant from tenant and are making improvements. We do have a breakfast rate with Best Western where adult pays 10.00 and all kids under 12 eat free. I will pass on comment to staff in stand up today. Again thanks, Neal

Clean room, Large swimming pool, Very close to Williamsburg. Breakfast not included. If you are planning to go Williamsburg, this place is perfect considering the price. But, you have to pay for the breakfast. By driving, you can get to a Harristeeter within 10 mins.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for the kind review. We do have a breakfast rate where the adult pays 10.00 and kids under 12 all eat free. Thanks again FOR THE GREAT REBIEW - EVERYTHING HERE HAS BEEN RENOVATED AND WE JUST CONVERTED. Neal

"Ideal Location"

3
09/08/2017

This hotel is within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg which makes it an ideal location. The rooms have recently been refurbished, but the overall quality of the hotel is average for the area. Expect to pay extra for breakfast so I highly recommend checking out one of the fine pancake houses in the area. Not bad for a short trip to the area.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for the great review. We do have a breakfast rate that for 10. an adult the children in your room under 12 eat free. Thanks Neal

Motel was very convenient to all the local sights and amusement parks. Would recommend to anybody needing motel reservations in this area. The rooms are very nice and have plenty of room. The Air conditioning is great as it has been very hot in this area.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. We just replaced every Air Conditioner in every room so the better work. Also we spent a great deal totally gutting and remodeling including all case good in every room. Thanks Again for the great comments and look forward to next visit. Neal

"Gross bathrooms"

1
06/08/2017

The lobby is absolutely gorgeous to be a older hotel that's been remodeled. The rooms however look thrown together and cheap. The bathroom in our room was gross. Between water & hair left in the tub then hair all around the toilet. I was thankful to be exhausted from being at Busch gardens all day or we would have found a new hotel. Also there's a bar and grill attached in the parking lot that seemed to be sketchy. We did arrive after 9pm.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I apologize for the hair - I will coach our housekeeping to ensure no one else has this problem. I am not sure what happened but will find out and fix. Thanks Neal

04/08/2017

Nice place to stay for the night, outside of the building could use some updates. The women behind the desk always acted like we were bothering her, there was a small issue with my card and she wasn't very helpful. Overall it's a ok place to stay for a night.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the comments. I will make sure all staff welcomes with open arms. I am sorry she seemed preoccupied and will work with her on that. Thanks Neal

"Late checkin/ room not ready"

29/07/2017

We arrived at the hotel at 4:00 room was not ready. When we finally were able to check in around 4;30 the room had no towels. Took kids to the pool there were kids running from outside the doors and jumping in pool (very dangerous) one almost landed on my daughter as she was trying to swim. No staff to tell them they were not suppose to be running and jumping in pool so we just left the pool couldn't enjoy it. I will not be staying at this hotel next time in Williamsburg VA.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry about the guest jumping near your child. If you would have notified the front desk they would have sent someone to correct the situation. The pool have several large signs that state no lifeguard on duty - not aware of many hotels that have them. I am sorry and the front desk would have removed the guest if they did not comply. Sorry about the 30 minute delay at check in we had a full house of checkouts the night before and had all hands working hard to complete is time. Thanks Neal

"Good hotel, no free breakfast"

25/07/2017

This hotel is very close the Williamsburg historic site, within 2 miles. Check in staff was nice and so was the lobby. Rooms were clean, bathroom a bit weathered. Be aware- there are 2 Best Westerns in Williamsburg, this one, and another a few miles down the road. This one does NOT include free breakfast.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Sorry about the no breakfast. We have just taken over this restaurant from a leassee. We do have a rate plan that includes breakfast and children under 12 eat free. In future please book direct with us and I can ensure the breakfast included in the breakfast rate program. Thanks Neal

"Just Drive on Past"

25/07/2017

Expected the "Best" .....Received the worst. Room reservations were wrong, beds were wrong, facility was a disaster, staff was less than friendly. We had problems from the minute we walked in the door to the time we checked out. I would be embarrassed if I was the manager of this hotel.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry we were not able to take care of your needs. I will look into which room you were in and check the notes on the folio from your visit and get to work on correcting the problems. Thanks Neal

"Nice staff, dirty room"

2
24/07/2017

The front desk staff was very accommodating and friendly. The room had dirty socks on the floor, trash on the bathroom floor, and hair on the toilet. There was also a water leak by the ice machine. There was a wet floor sign in the hallway, but by the time we checked out, we were splashing our way out.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I will coach the housekeeper and correct the problems. The breakdown on the ice machine has been fixed and should not be an issue in the future. Thanks Neal

"DIDN'T GET WHAT WAS EXPECTED"

3
23/07/2017

For the rate paid, I thought that breakfast was included - cash only also and no ATM in the hotel. They did offer pet sitting service and rooms were cleaned daily. However, no microwave in room had to use small one in lobby, no clothesline for wet bathing suits, hot tub and ice machine not working. Most of the staff were friendly. For the $120/night just expected more.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Sorry about confusion on breakfast - we have just taken over the restaurant and Best Western does have a rate code BKB that incudes breakfast. WE have not put microwaves in rooms yet but will be forthcoming in the future. WE do have a dryer available on the fourth floor that could have helped with the bathing suits - unfortunately the brand does not allow clothlines in rooms. Thanks again for stay and next time if you call and book direct we make sure we inform you of all amenties. Thanks Neal

"TERRIBLE"

1
23/07/2017

Had to move in the middle of the night due to juvenile delinquents running up and down the hallway. We didn't keep anything in our vehicle we didn't mind losing. The rooms were outdated and unkempt, gum in the floor. Plenty of other hotels, avoid this one.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry other guest made your stay unpleasant - We can ask the guest to control the children in their party or they are asked to leave. I am sorry and will make sure in future that the right person is moved - basically the children causing the trouble. I am not sure what is outdated about rooms - we have just recently remodeled - I will look at your rooms to see if I can determine what seems out of date. Again sorry for the guest that disturbed you and in future we will correct them. Neal Thanks Neal

"Great Place to Stay by Williamsurg"

4
18/07/2017

The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The hotel was located very close to Old Town Williamsburg. The value was great. The only drawback was the bathroom could have been cleaner. Also, the breakfast offered in the morning was not worth $11.99 per person. There are several pancake houses close to the hotel that were a better value and a higher quality menu.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for the great review. We have just taken over the restaurant this week fro an outside vendor. I am in process of improving the food - I agree with you and that is reason we took restaurant back. We do have a breakfast included rate with Best Western called BKB rate that includes breakfast in the stay. Look forward to serving you in the future. Neal

"Nice Hotel but Indoor Pool needs improvement"

4
17/07/2017

Enjoyed our stay but not our pool time. The pool doors were open (no screens) which resulted in insects/debris in the water, poor filtration system, no rope to note deeper end, markings were faded & low chemicals (which resulted in short time in pool as I began to itch).

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks for your review. We checked the pool and it was actually at the top end of the scale so that is what caused the itching - It was within guidelines but on the high end tends to cause the itching. We have reset the auto clorinator to correct. I am sorry about the bugs and we had screens but guest kept kicking them out when they would not open - I need a better system and will certainly look to correct this problems. Thanks again for your visit and look forward to return visit. Neal

17/07/2017

The website says the hotel had been recently renovated but in some areas there is still needed TLC. Our room was large for 4 people, bathroom was clean and new bedding and furniture were noticeable but the doors and the hallways all seem very worn down. The Lobby was find but once you start walking down the halls you can tell these place must have been pretty beat up before they started the renovations. The last Best Western which went stay at after being renovated was vastly different. So, if you're head to PA I recommend Best Western Plus, The Inn at King of Prussia King Of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Request a room in the new section. The FREE Breakfast and employees were all GREAT!

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for review - we are still in process of completing the hallways - drapes, artwork and other items are being completed. Thanks you for your stay and please try us again. Neal

13/07/2017

Overall a very nice hotel. Comfortable and the staff were very friendly. Restaurant had limited menu but was just getting up and running so understandable. Food that we did have there was very good. Proximity to Historic Williamsburg was terrific. Walked to historic area on several days.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for the review. We are the closest hotel and a block walk to the historic area. We just took restaurant over last week so we are in process of building a new menu. Thanks for the visit and look forward to your return visit. Thanks Neal

"Pleasant Stay"

12/07/2017

Overall the Hotel and Rooms were nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bathroom could use a little updating and/or minor repairs. The restaurant however was poor. The only option for breakfast was a buffet. The food on the buffet was overdone and cold. The cost for the children was the same as adults and was not worth the money paid.

nchalkley, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for the review. Breakfast does cost - restaurant separate from hotel However there is a rate in Best Western BWB that for ten dollars more includes the adult breakfast and with that code children under 10 will eat free. Thanks and next visit please ask for GM and I can ensure you are on right breakfast code rate. Thanks Neal

07/07/2017

We stayed here it was in the heart of everything. It was perfect when going to Bush Gardens. The room was clean. The front desk staff was helpful. The breakfast was good. The breakfast staff was awesome if you need anything they would jump to help. My daughter could only have almond milk and they had some. The girl ever made sure to put some extra out for us the next morning.

, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you very much for the review. I will let Vanessa know the impression she made with the Almond milk. I will also share with my front desk staff at stand up; We are only a walk from CW and 2 miles from Busch Garden. Looking forward to your next visit Thanks Neal

Fruit Flies and Slugs in Room & Smell of stagnant water. These were the things that stood out as something I should report. The staff were excellent. Friendly and helpful. The indoor pool was very nice. The location to everything was stellar!! Just hated inhaling the stagnant water, swatting at fruit flies and stepping on a slug in the middle of the night while going to the bathroom.

Thanks for the comments on my staff. I am sorry about the other problems - I am in process of trying to determine which room you were in so I cancorrect these problems. The HOTEL WAS IN AN EXCELLENT LOCATION TO visit , THE HISTORIC District and colonial Williamsburg near shopping, restaurants. The hotel stay was excellent with a terrific staff who were helpful, attentive and ready always to help and please. The room was clean and comfortable with all the amenities you would want. A great fitness center and pool and a restaurant that is just starting up with a decent selection. Would go back again.

, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for the great review. We are in process of brand conversion during peak season. We will continue to strive to the best to cover all areas. We are the closest hotel to the Colonial Section and only minutes away from Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. I will pass on housekeeping comments to housekeepers at stand up meeting today. Thanks again, Neal

"Front desk check in was sad!"

3
04/07/2017

We showed up early at 3:30 to check in at 4pm and we felt like we were bothering the staff when we showed up to check in. They told us to come back after 4:30 and they "might" have a room ready for us. They proceeded to tell us how busy they were and that they did not have any clean rooms.(at 3:30pm). The front desk clerk Nancy seemed bothered that we were even there and she was the clerk that told us to come back after 4:30 and there might be something available. The other clerk Charles felt like it was his responsibility to fill us in on the problems with Best western and there lack of training the staff and how they had tickets lined all the way across the counter the night before and how busy they were and blah blah blah. We don't care. We are customers that just got off he rode traveling all day and we want to check in.

, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for your checking experience - I will coach front line and ensure improvements are made. Please use this email in the future that will book you directly to me. I will ensure you a excellent stay on the return visit. Thanks Neal

"Reward members beware!"

2
04/07/2017

If you are a reward member, you will not get points for staying at this hotel. Also, the pool and jacuzzi were not clean, nor was the water level high in the jacuzzi. The fitness center didn't have water nor cups if they did have water, to their credit, they did replace the water bottle in the dispenser the next day. Also, if you are used to getting continental breakfasts at BW, they do not offer one.

, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Sorry about breakfast - we are full service hotel and offer dinner and breakfast. Currently owned by lease but we are in process of taking control back to hotel ownership. Breakfast is offered daily to order at a reasonable price. We do give Best Western Rewards points to every customer. We can convert Choice status not points over to the Best western rewards system. Thanks Neal

I am so glad we could serve. My team is still finalizing the remodel and we continue to improve. We are the closest hotel to Colonial Williamsburg - walk one block. Busch Gardens is only 2 miles in the other direction. Thanks Neal

25/06/2017

As customers who booked through Booking.com, we were given a room in the 1st floor basement. It was damp and reeked of stale cigarette odor. On the 2nd day there was actually a slug found crawling on a suitcase. Found spiders in the tub. Would NEVER stay here again or recommend.

"Pleasant , Basic hotel"

4
21/06/2017

I don't have a lot of complaints about my stay here. It is an excellent basic hotel that serves its purpose. It has a super convenient location with walking distance to historic Williamsburg and a few minutes from Busch Gardens. The room was clean and nicely decorated. A nice touch was a pasture of horses across the street from the hotel. I would stay here again and would definitely recommend it. It is a good value.

, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
Thanks you for your report. We have just recently converted to a Best Western Product as of last Monday. We have done a total remodel and are excited to serve you and look forward to many more visits. Thanks Again - I will let my staff know their efforts and hard work are being recognized.Thx Neal

"NASTY throughout"

1
20/06/2017

First impressions: There are more leaves in the foyer than there are in the parking lot. Place looks tired. One receptionist is professional, one is aloof. I get the latter. No "hello" "welcome" ...just "ID and credit card." After traveling all day I'd like to slap some manners into this wench. Reality: This place doesn't look tired, it IS tired. The carpet is gross. The hallways are dimly lit (mercifully so) and scar laden. The elevators are dirty, small and hot. The room key doesn't work. Should've take. It as an omen... the room is dark, outdated and hot. We crank AC down and immediately exit to resuscitate and find dinner. When we return the room is as hot as before...we can't sleep. Front desk says they can't help ("try unplugging and plugging back in"). We can't sleep... finally the front desk says we can move to another, albeit smaller, room. My wife and kids move and I stay behind, as there aren't enough beds in the cooler room. I awake at 5:30am ...TV signal is out. I head down to get coffee but I fear my room key won't work again so I'm reluctant to lock myself out. The front desk has no attendant. I try to cancel remaining rez but I'm told it was made thru Expedia and BW has no control. I calll BW national line and they say customer service doesn't open 'til 10 EST. I tell myself I can tough it out for two more nights...I brought flip flops so I don't have to touch the carpet...I can sleep in my clothes so I don't have to touch the sheets. I'll bathe the tv remote with Purell, keep a keen eye out for bugs and take really long showers. Nasty.

"Personal Comments"

18/06/2017

My overall rating is average: 3/5. It's recommended for short-term stay of a small family for leisure purposes. It's close to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. The total expenses are affordable. However, I thought I checked online that accommodation includes breakfast but there was none.

"Please do not stay here. "

17/06/2017

This place is absolutely infested with cockroaches. Some regular-sized and some the size of a mouse. When we arrived, the lobby looked nice enough, but then when we got to our rooms it was like a horror show. Roaches falling out of clean towels, crawling on the doors and walls... disgusting. I cannot believe that we paid $100 for this hotel. If they would have charged $40 it would have been too much. This place makes me feel like I need a shower, but can't take one because there are cockroaches in it. Can't wait to get the heck out of here.

, General Manager at Best Western Williamsburg Historic District, responded to this review
I am sorry for your stay. We do not have roaches in the past and if somehow they have made a entry - I can assure you we have had the pest control company that has our contract out here for past 4 days. They have not seen any but we have taken action to ensure none are present or will be present. Again I am sorry and if I can do anything please contact the general manager - Neal - and I will make sure you are satisfied. Thanks Neal
