    « Disappointed »

As a treat I booked a suite for an overnight stay a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed with the room as it was on the lower ground floor. Instead of looking out over the golf course and beach we had a view of a wall. So not worth paying extra for a suite unless you ask for a sea view. Also the bed sheet had a tear! Food was ok. Good central location and pleasant staff.

    « Buddies Golf Trip »

The American perspective of The Best Western chain isn't very high. However this property brome the mold and offered us a perfect lodging option for our Bucket-List trip to St Andrews. The location to the Old Course, Starter's Pavilion, golf shops, Dunvegan Pub and Market Street made this a no-brainer. Spectacular location, views and found the staff to be exceptionally warm and friendly. The Jr Suite rooms (104/106) we're enormous with couches and sitting areas. Beds were perfectly fine and had no issues. The only issue I found was with the breakfast/food offering. Continental fruit, muffins and juice such are fine. I found the hot items (eggs, bacon, sausage) to be unsatisfactory. No big deal, I would just skip over to the Starters Pavilion for coffee and a breakfast sandwich and watch the morning groups go off the 1st tee of Old Course! Not a bad way to spend your morning :) I didn't book this hotel for a culinary tour of Scotland. I booked for the AMAZING location and this is exactly what we got. No reason for us to stay anywhere else in the future. WONDERFUL STAY!

« Historic and Wonderful Hotel »

Historic and wonderful hotel. One half block to 18th hole at St. Andrews. Short walk to shops, restaurants and bars. View from room was the beach from movie Chariots of Fire. Staff were exceptionally warm and friendly.

« Thank you very much, but... »

When I arrived in St Andrews on Friday 27th April for a week of golf I realised, to my horror, that I'd got my dates mixed up and did not have a room for the night. It was about 9 o'clock in the evening and the usual hotel search sites were only coming up with VERY expensive options. Then came Scott at The Scores hotel to the rescue. He recognised I was in a spot and gave me their last room (a suite) at a reduced rate (I was on my own). Scott was brilliant (Best Western management, pls note!) and a credit to the company. Thank you so much. However, I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but had I of paid full rate for my room, I would not have been impressed. The room, whilst warm and dry, was very tired and on closer inspection, dirty. I'm going to leave it there because I was helped out of a spot, but I do think this could be a brilliant hotel and hope to visit again.

    « Definite no no »

I recently visited the Scores Hotel with a party of 50 people for an afternoon tea which had been booked many months ago. When we arrived we were kept corralled in a small reception area before going into a very bland room . Two waitresses then proceeded to rush around laying the the 5 tables of 10 , plates first then saucers then cups and so on. Eventually metal pots of tea and coffee arrived. One of each. We were now down to 1 waitress. The poor girl was rushed off her feet. Then came a small pot of sugar and jug of milk. Then a cake stand with 20 scones and a small pot of cream and jam. The poor waitress was running from one table to another refilling the jam, cream, milk and coffee. It was a shambles. We all felt sorry for the waitress and felt that our booking had probably been forgotten. For a hotel in an iconic area we had expected better service.

    « Double bogey ! »

Oh dear This hotel is in a prime location for accessing the Old Course and the other courses in St Andrews but apparently the management thinks this means they don't have to worrry about basic customer service. The first night I discovered my bed had a lumpy row of springs which made my nights sleep quite uncomfortable. I won't bore you with the details but it took four conversations with 5 different staff before I begrudgingly got a new mattress. Add to that a mediocre breakfast at £10 extra and being overcharged on the bill and I will be looking for alternative accommodation the next time. The place could do with a facelift but more than anything the staff need to learn the meaning of customer service. Answers such as 'nobody else has complained' just don't cut the mustard.

    « Worst time ever »

Me and my wife stayed at your hotel and had breakfast this morning we were really looking forward to it too. It was the worst experience ever they was three staff members on and they didnt make us feel welcome and wasn't polite either, also the breakfast was not the best I think extra training is needed. My wife asked for coffee and toast and it took so long to wait, it was a shame about our stay, the rooms was freezing and didn't feel welcome at all.

    3
    « Afternoon coffee »

I write this not to criticise waitress but to ask that the management actually train the waitress, we had coffee this afternoon and it was obvious to us that the poor girl had no idea how to make coffee, we asked for 2 cappuccino and 2. Latte, the Cappuccino had very little foam ( not enough to cover the top of the cup),1 latte was cold and it took an age to serve the coffees. We did not let this spoil our afternoon in the very nice surroundings of the hotel. Please make sure this waitress has some help, she seemed a very pleasant girl who had been abandoned

« Wonderful hotel, great location! »

My husband and I stayed at this hotel during our winter getaway to Scotland. Not only did we love St. Andrews, but this hotel was perfect for us. The room was on the smaller side, but that is typical in Europe, and still had plenty of closet and bathroom space. It was very clean, warm, and the location was perfect. We had a view of the sea and the Old Golf Course! It was just two streets over from the heart of the action, so it was a short walk to the main shopping and restaurants. It was very close to most of the golf related activities, as well as just down the street from the castle and cathedral. Overall we loved our stay here. The stay were helpful and friendly, and we felt very comfortable in this hotel. Anytime we come back to St. Andrews we will be staying here again!

« Gordon Ramsey needs to help the scores hotel kitchen!!! »

Worst dinner experience ever!!! Rock hard steaks served to a private room of group16! Instead of replacing the dinner plate, they chose to replace with 3 bottles of cheap £3.99 red. After two rounds of rejection of the unopened cheap wine. They decide to replaced a £9.99 red bottle, Gordon Ramsey, pls help the scores' kitchen!!!!!!!! Best Westen franchise around the world been consistently superior. Sad to say, Scores is not one of them.

« Great Hotel, Great Staff, Great Location »

We recently stayed here on a family vacation (2 adults, 2 kids) and absolutely loved it. The main door to our hotel room actually led into a hallway...which then had a door to the bedroom for our kids, a door to our bedroom, a door to a full bath and another door to a 1/2 bath. It was nice to have a separate area for everyone! The staff at the hotel were amazing! They were so helpful and accommodating, they really wanted to make sure our stay was great...and it was! The location was perfect, a view to the sea and the first tee at the Old Course...which my husband loved! While my husband golfed, the kids and I went sightseeing and we were able to walk everywhere (our kids are 9 and 11). We had a rental car and there was free parking available right in front of the hotel.

    « Great Location...Very Nice people »

We stayed at the Best Western Scores the night of March 16th, 2018. It's a lovely hotel. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and a bit of St Andrews golf course. It's a stellar location. The people were all wonderful. I might just mention that if you are a 24/7 person the internet is a bit unpredictable. There was however some bad weather and that may have had something to do with the issue. Highly recommend. The rooms are lovely and very comfortable.

    « Nice Hotel »

Stayed here for one night on a family vacation. The building itself is pretty old, but you should expect that in Scotland! Weird layout with sinks in bedrooms and such, but overall a nice charming area for the price we paid. You can only buy certain drinks in certain bars, which was a bit odd. And breakfast was Horrible. It also was the warmest (temperature) hotel I have ever stayed in...and you cant control the thermostats in the halls cranking out the heat. Everyone slept with windows open because they were so hot. But a great location and friendly staff. If you get family rooms with the bigger beds...they are two beds pushed together.

« Great views of the sea »

Had an enjoyable one night stay here and the location is hard to beat. It's within walking distance for those non golfers out there, of the the beach, shopping and ample places to dine. The staff were very friendly and breakfast was not bad.

    « Wonderful,relaxing stay with a fabulous view! »

Not only is this hotel beautifully situated but the building is also beautiful. The staff have always been so welcoming and attentive it really makes for a relaxing stay. We have the benefits of the beautiful sandy view of the West Sands and the famous golf course along with a bustling high street and fantastic history just waiting to be explored.

« Fantastic views and great location »

The room we had was rather small, but very charming, with much of the Victorian details, and a stunning view of West Sands beach. The Old Course, shops, and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. Service is excellent and we were welcomed by name when we returned, having stayed with them the previous year. Breakfast served with spectacular views - great way to start the day!

    « Very nice hotel. »

Stayed one Saturday at short notice and was lucky enough to get a room. Staff friendly and quick service upon arrival. Had a twin room on 3rd floor. Very clean and nice decor. Ensuite was also clean with nice powerful and warm shower. Only downside with it was the WiFi was non existent in the room.

    « What a location ! »

Overlooking the bay and famous golf course. Everything walkable from there in the town. Warm rooms . Good breakfast with fish options available on request. Off road parking at the back really useful. Well priced .

    « Very nice hotel »

Stayed here for two nights on business. If you are a golf fan there can be few better places to stay. Across the road is The Museum of Golf and the first tee and 18th green of the Old Course. The room was huge and well appointed and the food was lovely. All in all a very good choice. Check out the view from the room, super.

    « Fantastic Location »

You couldn't really ask for a better location in St Andrews. The hotel is next to the golf course and has sea views over the huge expansive beach. We had a room on the third floor and the lift was very welcome on the way up but we didn't mind on the way down. Room was fine, clean, big and very warm. The bed was too soft for our liking and the duvet too heavy but this is a preference rather than a fault. Breakfast was really good - I had the mackerel, poached egg on spinach and roast tomatoes - delicious .... Also the buffet breakfast ,the second day, which was good - though items could run out quite quickly. Location wise - free parking at hotel, easy walk to beach or to town centre. We will be back in the future.

    « No better place »

We booked the hotel on the day of travel. Surprisingly the rate was cheapest on booking .com, rather than the best western website (even with reward club membership). The hotel is right by the central gold course and looks over the sea. There is lots of free parking opposite. This is a well mainTained welcoming hotel. The staff were all extremely helpful and professional. We booked room 110junior suite. It was spacious, looked over the sea, had light to read, lovely large comfortable bed. It was a beautiful room.. the breakfast was great,, great fruit bar and cereals. Also the breakfast room looked over the sea. My husband had cooked breakfast (the potato scone was delicious), I had smoked salmon and egg. All great. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Large spacious room. Good breakfast and dinner. Friendly staff. v good location on sea front . Less than 5 mins to beautiful town. More traditional than modern hotel, but nothing wrong with that. Had happy atmosphere and would consider staying here again

    « Boutique hotel »

Great location for St. Andrews. Off the Main Street so it's quiet at night when you're asleep. Rooms are very large. Towels are fluffy. Bed is quite comfortable. Didn't want to leave it in the morning. Didn't try any of the bar or restaurant services.

« Great location for our St.Andrews golf excursion »

Spent three days at Scores while we golfed at 4 different St. Andrews courses. Absolutely enjoyed the hotel and the surrounding area - highly recommended and make sure you view all the golf themed parlors.

    « relaxing break »

We tavelled to St Andrews for a weekend break. We booked into the Scores hotel and what a pleasant surprise it was. The staff were most helpful and friendly and the location was spot on. On entering our very spacious room we discovered we had a fantastic view overlooking the West Bay. A five minuet walk and you were in the town centre a short walk outside the hotel entrance down to your left and you were at the famous 18th hole of the old course. brilliant location. We stayed bed and breakfast and what a breakfast it was I had the full Scottish breakfast and it was fantastic though I couldnt eat it all there was so much. Also you could choose from the buffet of cold meat cheese yoghurt fruit fruit juce or cereal. I would recommend booking bed and breakfast. Would we stay at the Scores again most certainly yes.

« Lovely Long Weekend Away »

We stayed in a junior suite with amazing views overlooking the beach and sea. Excellenty location , literally at the 1st tee of the Old Course though never managed to get a game. Suite was lovely and we really appreciated being able to 'put our feet up' with a wonderfully comfortable sofa. It was bitterly cold outside but neither cold or hot inside, just right. Bath was utilised to relax both days we stayed as quickly filled up with lovely hot water. We took breakfast the morning we were leaving and found it very good with decent coffee too again with a magnificent view across the sea nd golf course. I know we were 'out of season' but nothing encouraged us to eat or drink in the hotel which was a pity. Menu appeared to be a little dated and when we did go for a drink the lounge bar it was empty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a lovely Hotel with lots of history, great location, decent rooms but starting to look a little tired and dated. I would definately come back saying that.

    3
    « Room for improvement »

The room was a little wet and cold. The radiators did not work. The staff during the check out was extremely unfriendly and not helpful. Generally, the hotel is great looking and has a good location with a great view

    5
    « Lovely hotel »

Stayed in a junior suite on the first floor which was just lovely. Room was large, airy and spotlessly clean with a super king size bed. Bathroom was basic, nothing special although had nice range of toiletries. It also had a great view of the sea but only if you could look through the trees - I would imagine in the summer when the tree is full of leaves our view would be blocked. Breakfast was lovely, although a little slow on the service but it was fine. We also ate dinner here and menu was varied and reasonably priced with food of good quantity and quality. Parking however was a nightmare. It says the hotel has 12 spaces but the only parking we could see was outside the hotel but was open to everyone, had to drive round the block 3 times before lucky enough to get a space. I would stay here again but I think the parking situation might put me off.

« Great hotel for a golf break »

We had 4 nights here during a golf break. Fantastic location. You can walk ready to play to Old (and maybe New/ Jubilee). Great views from front rooms and restaurant. Full breakfasts tasty and filling, but leave time as food takes time to appear. Rooms clean and warm. Not the cheapest, but you are paying for location.

« Room with a view. I dont think so. »

Trip planned for St Andrews and wanted somewhere central. Stay was Wednesday and Thursday night last week. Booked through Expedia at a rate of £378 for 2 nights bed and breakfast we thought. For that price thought we were getting 4 star. Looking at ratings now it seems only as much as 3 star some say 2 star. Booked a junior suite with King size bed. Got there hotel looked OK, the best thing I can say about it is location, just off the first tee. Checked in and was advised that breakfast was not included and unfortunately my paperwork didn't mention breakfast. Have done a search through Expedia for next week and that price included breakfast. Our room was 223 in the Seaton House. To get to it we had to go back down to entrance level to what was the basement. and through what was basically the storage areas for the cleaning materials. There was a 'nice' little sitting area at the entrance to the 3 rooms on this level but cant imagine anyone wanting to sit here as there were no windows or natural light. The room itself was a good size with nice sitting area although 2 chairs and a settee was a little over the top a coffee table would have been more use for putting coffee cups etc on. Went to look at our view. Website say 'There are 36 rooms in total, many of which have stunning overs over the West Sands whilst others enjoy an outlook over the landscaped garden and terraces.' Our room looked out onto the back of the hotel at a enclosed yard with a large waste bin and some pipes with a staircase from the ground level. Received a phone call asking of the room was OK and I advised that when we paid for a Junior Suite we didn't expect to be in the dungeon. See photos posted of the view. Reception apologised and said would see if there was another room. By this time I had unpacked and hubby had settled. Reception came back that there was another room available with a seaview but I advised we would make the best of it, as only there 2 nights and would be out playing golf most of the next day. If the other room was available why were we not given that in the first place?? Hubby wanted a nap and tried to sort out the lighting but seemed that you could only have the 2 chandeliers on together and the downlights in the middle of the room didn't work at all. Reported this to reception on our way out for the evening but looks like someone went in the room while we were out but nothing done. Breakfast on both days was not good. Had to make requests for orange juice to be filled, sugar for the table, more butter, and when we made these requests felt like we were out of order. Breakfast on the 2nd morning took an hour, from the responses it sounded like there was only one chef on but the breakfast room was not particularly busy. Would have liked to have had a drink in the hotel but the only bar open on both nights was the bar in the dining room. The Chariots bar was not open at all during our stay although we were advised it would be open on the Thursday evening. The room 223 has the worst view in the hotel. The other 2 rooms in the seaton house are still below ground level but have good bay windows and you can look out and see some view. I did make our observations at checkout but the response was 'I can only apologise' Sorry but it felt like my feedback was ignored. I don't usually write such long reviews but just felt we were ripped off a little with the price, the room and the fact that our rate paid to expedia included breakfast.

« Good hotel but not when it is windy »

Stayed for a night here. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I was in room 307 - was an ok room. Nothing too special but servicable. Had dinner in the grill restaurant onsite. Was really nice but the music they played over the speakers kept jumping ( would have been better to turn it off). Food was exceptional. Night time the wind really picked up and i had to choose between the wind whistling around the room with the window open or suffocating with ir closed. I went for the latter but was awake because the wind was so loud. Breakfast was terrific.

    4
    « Good location »

Great location - walkable to the cathedral, castle, shops, restaurants. Free parking available. Rooms were ok (light over the sink kept going out, but really good water pressure in the shower). Older building so it had a lot of character. We grabbed a quick lunch here after checking in. Food was good, but service was really slow. Breakfast was ok. Cold options at buffet. Hot options have to be ordered. Again, good, but slow. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

    5
    « Exceeded expectations »

The location is amazing and many of the rooms have a beach view. Ladies at the front desk were super helpful and the breakfast really good. I kept extending my stay and will return when in St Andrews.

    4
    « Room with a view »

The staff at the Hotel could not have been more helpful with any request and full of information that answered all my questions. Certainly, the location to the Old Course is perfect and within walking distance to a number of the nice restaurants in the town of St Andrews. May I suggest if it's your 1st time to St Andrews, add on a historical walking tour of the town too.

« Only popped in for a bacon sandwich »

After strolling for a while we saw a sign for bacon sandwich and drink so we popped in and really enjoyed the experience, Shown to a dining room overlooking the sea we were greeted warmly by a lovely waitress who kept us amused while our food and drink was ready, she was a student at the local uni and was a credit to the hotel and uni. So helpful and friendly I wish I had taken her name. If we come back to the area will stay here.

    « Pleasantly Surprised »

Came on a very busy weekend to drop my son at the University and was initially concerned I was staying at a Best Western, but from the moment we arrived, we found exceptionally pleasant and helpful people in Scott at reception and Jenny the manager. Altho the only room available was facing the rear garden and it was a little tight, the location is very central to the town and faces the sea and the golf course. We had a very pleasant stay and highly recommend it if you're in St. Andrews.

    « Golfing with friends »

Great trip with friends to play golf where golf began. Hotel was excellent for our location to our golf destinations. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast every morning was great. Walked out front door to see the 1st tee box at the Old Course. Would stay there again.

« Please give this restaurant a try!.**This review is for the Scores Restaurant Only** »

The Scores Hotel should request Trip Advisor to enable Hotel and Restaurant reviews to be done separately. Maybe then, more diners will visit at lunchtime. Read On.......This restaurant is situated in a superb location overlooking the West Sands and Royal & Ancient Golf Headquarters. Very comfortable surroundings with stunning views. the Lunchtime menu is very varied and quite extensive and I have to say, great value for money. (2 courses £11.95 and 3 courses £13.95). I must say if you walk past this Hotel, you might think, 'that'll be too pricey and grand for the likes of me?'. How wrong you would be. I watched many people of all ages walk past the hotel unaware of the lunchtime offers. Perhaps the hotel should place an easily viewed advert by the pavement adjacent to the Hotel. Maybe they wish to retain their 'aloof' state....big mistake. I reckon if you totalled up the coarses we chose from the a la carte lunch menu provided, the total for each of us was around £26..all that for £13.95, is a no brainier, especially as the dishes served could not be faulted. We'll be back and if the restaurant is busy, this review will have served it's purpose.

    « St Andrews »

Very nice hotel with gray location next to the 18th hole of the Old course. Within walking distance of the central ares of St Andrews. Ask for ocean view room and can view West Sands Beach of Chariot of Fire fame. The staff is very attentive and professional. The hotel room appointments and common areas of the hotel are a little dated but strangely this also was also one of the attractive qualities of the hotel. Everything was clean and operational. Breakfast was very good and foods served were typical of Scotland. We never ordered from the menu which had items more typical of American breakfast. Hotel is not inexpensive. Book early. No serious faults with this hotel and will stay there again when we attend our son'e graduation next year.

    « location location location »

Beautiful views. Easy parking. Of course convenient. Bed and linens were fine and clean. BUT it's an OLD hotel. The baths were probably updated 20-30 years ago. Maybe ok if at least they cleaned the mildew from the tiles or washed the dirt from the flimsy shower curtain. The carpets and public areas are worn and frayed. Not at all handicap accessible as there are many steps even to get to the lifts. The area is lovely and I wish this hotel matched the experience.

« Perfect location for a St Andrews golf trip... »

My buddies and I arrived late at night from 3 different continents into Edinburgh and staggered into our hotel a couple hours before our 7am tee time at the Old Course. If it weren't for the convenience and coziness of the Scores hotel being right in front of the starter and first tee of the Old Course, my buddies and I would not have enjoyed our version of the British Open as it unfolded across 4 rounds on 4 different courses over 4 days: Day 1: the Old Course; Day 2: Jubilee; Day 3: Castle; and last, but definitely not the least Day 4: Carnoustie. Even though most of our tee times were around 7am, we were still able to have a light breakfast or full Scottish breakfast for the later tee times. I'm addition, after our rounds, everything in Saint Andrews was conveniently walking distance from the Scores, including restaurants, supermarkets, the university and even Old Tom Morris' tomb to pay respects. Highly recommend this convenient and reasonable hotel to anyone looking to spend some time in Saint Andrews...

    « Excellent stay »

Found this hotel to be older but quite charming. Room was spacious with a view the R&A and a short walk to the course. Breakfast was always good and plentiful and the wi-fi was included and adequate. Can't beat the location and the service at the front desk was outstanding from helping get us into the room a little early after a day's travel to spot on recommendations for dinner. Would stay again.

« Could do (much) better! »

Positive points first: Great location especially if you have a room overlooking the sea. Comfortable beds, pillows etc. Well appointed room - good hairdrier, ironing board, hospitality tray, decent bath products Now for the down sides: -the public spaces are a bit down-at-heel - dingy and badly lit, shabby carpets and lots of (not very appealing) brown furniture -the restaurant, isn't awful, but it's terribly dull. Decent soup (well, it IS Scotland); choices on menu are of the fish and chips and meat and two veg, type. Generous portions. The breakfast is poor. Really uninspired, standard stuff and no treats like eggs Benedict/ good summer fruits/interesting cereal toppings. My scrambled egg was leathery and overcooked.Terrible coffee, tired-looking pastries, flabby toast. -the staff were friendly enough, but the service was very terrible, both at lunch and breakfast. Particularly so at breakfast. I was pushed for time on a Monday morning and the staff clearly thought that starting at 7 am, meant that they could saunter in at 7.15 without so much as 'sorry'. Be warned; if you order a taxi, make sure you go down to the foyer and watch out for it. There's no easy parking in front of the hotel and the drivers don't let reception know (and reception don't warn you about tha they don'tt! It's that sort of hotel.) I wouldn't stay here again (despite the view) unless I knew there had been a change in management. It's not wildly expensive and could be lovely, but it's poor value for what it is.

    « Shared a teabag! »

Slow to be served at Chariots Pub. All we wanted wanted was a pot of tea for 2. Finally got it. Sat down, gasping for a drink. Terrible, weak tea. Looked in pot. One teabag!!!! The blonde lass needs a lesson in tea making!!!

« Great location and charming »

I think this hotel is the closest to the 1st tee on the Old Course. The hotel as a very nice wood finish throughout the building and reminds you of a historic hotel from 80 years ago. The staff was helpful and the rooms were large with a lot of character. You'll pay a lot for the location and charm.

    « Sunny Evening Dining »

A short stay in St Andrews we were looking for an evening meal. While taking in the sights we came across the Scores, the menu appealed and we booked an early evening table for 4 adults and a 4 year old. The view from the 1st floor restaurant was amazing, traditional fixture and fittings including the tartan carpet. No atmosphere as we were the only diners. The food starters we choose tempura prawns, haggis Bon bon's, breaded chicken fillets all very good, mains steak pie, chicken and leek pie and Fajitas. Only the Fajitas were very disappointing served with very little veg. The staff were attentive (but we were the only people there) the prices were fair compared to others in the area. One downfall the dirty windows. I realise bird poo is a major problem by the coast but sitting opposite it eating my meal not attractive. Down stairs bar looked inviting we were back the next late afternoon with more family and sat outside enjoying drinks in the sun.

    « Disappointing »

The location of this hotel is fantastic, across the street from St Andrews Old Course. That is the only positive comment I can give. The staff was unfriendly upon our arrival and throughout our stay. Our room was terrible. It was very tiny and the toilet only worked about half the time. The room was directly over the kitchen so it was extremely loud when the restaurant was open. The windows had no shades or curtains which was problematic as it did not get dark until after 11:00 and was getting light again by 4:00 AM. When I mentioned these things to the staff they acted as if they had never heard these complaints before. I know that the kitchen noise curtain issues were written about in a previous review. I would not recommend this hotel.

« Great location for golfers »

We stayed at the Best Western Scores Hotel April 2017. This location is perfect if you are playing at St. Andrews. It is adjacent to the 1st hole of the Old Course, just a quick walk away. The hotel itself is very nice, the staff professional and hospitable. Our room was comfortable and beautiful, a suite with a large sitting area, nice view of the sea and park across the street. Up the road, walking distance, from the University of St. Andrews, St. Andrews Cathedral & St. Andrews Castle.

« Lovely pub to visit! »

I come into Chariots bar on a fairly regular basis and have always enjoyed the classic décor, the view from the outside area and the outstanding service, hence the very good rating I gave the hotel. Food is good value and I like how fast it comes out. Only issue I've ever had was this weekend where I came into chariots, and there was a young man behind the bar who totally ignored me and after a couple of minutes I just left. I'll certainly be back, but it was a bit disappointing. All in all though, cracking hotel!

« Perfect Hotel for Golf Trip »

Very good hotel. Room was very clean and equipped. Room service did a good job. Breakfast was included for me (not sure if normally?) and it had some variety. Location is absolute top feature as it is literally a walk across the street to the Old Course and there are stunning views to the water. I was very pleased.

« DELIGHTFUL hotel with a STUNNING location »

The free upgrade to a Suite honestly does not influence this review of what has to be one of St Andrews' best located and most inviting hotels! Fab room, super clean, great toiletries and a view to die for - will definitely go back (and good luck for a speedy recovery to the friendly middle distance running barman!!)

« Sweet location next to Old Course »

Perfectly located. If only the hotel were a bit better. Room was large, nice bathroom but below grade. It was warm for Scotland and no AC was a problem. Their solution was a floordan which helped. Beds were soft and on rollers, sit carefully! Food quality was average for breakfast, poor for dinner. The bar was out of so many items, evidently some management issues. Wifi was ok In sum, come for convenience to but I suspect better options are closely.

    « DONT!!!! »

We were at a wedding here and they were appalling! The food was all wrong and extremely disgusting! They forgot to serve the gluten free and vegan options, barely any staff and we were all left to our own accord so there was no service. Only 2 people at the small bar to serve around 100 guests, only 2 toilets as well & no disabled access. Our room had HUGE cobwebs hanging down from the ceiling, mould on the netting, curtains and around the windows, no bathroom light, no internet even when stated otherwise & we even had to ask for toilet roll. Nothing but noise throughout the entire night too. Breakfast was good, I will admit BUT again it was all wrong, they took over 30minutes in bringing it out - on top of the 20min wait from her showing us to our seats and taking our order & they mixed up the whole order. When I complained to the receptionist about some of the problems we had they just ignored it completely and replied with an exhausted "I'm sorry to hear that". That was all. I'm currently asking for my money back as I would expect this from a room costing £30, not £200+!!!

    « Great location »

My husband and I are not golfers, but this was a fantastic location. The hotel is directly adjacent to the beautiful Old Course at St. Andrews historic golf course. Just beyond that is the Western Beach. The Aquarium is just down the street. We could walk to the Cathedral, the Castle, the West Port, the Blackfriars Chapel, as well as all the delightful shops and restaurants. The hotel was very charming, large rooms, high ceilings, lots of beautiful woodwork, and the restaurant and bar were great. I would stay here again.

« High Tea. Think again!!!! »

I booked this Hotel for a party of 90 Senior Citizens for High Tea. Some of the meals were cold, a half portion of fish, not enough scones for number of people at table. Later served cut in half and just defrosted!! The service was so slow . No side plates on table, ( had to ask for thes to be put out) tea and coffee served 15 minutes after cakes and scones appeared. Staff had no idea on how to present a high tea menu? Had no satisfaction when complained to General Manager. Would not return or recommend to any other organisation.

« Good Value Great Location »

Stayed here for 6 nights on a St Andrews golf location. Having stayed last year at the Old Course hotel, I found Scores to be a much better value and an awesome location. It's just a stones throw from the 1st tee of the Old Course and right in the heart of downtown St Andrews. I stayed in one of the basement rooms. While it was a little dark, it was extremely quiet. The room was clean, bed was comfortable and the bathroom had been recently renovated and very good. I would highly recommend this place, particularly for a golf trip when you plan to be out most of the day but want a convenient, quiet and clean place to stay.

    « Disappointing stay »

I booked this hotel via clubcard rewards hoping for an enjoyable one night stay in a prominent beachfront hotel. This was way off the mark I'm afraid Our room was on the third floor and even using the lift we had a trek to get to it It must have been one of the original servants quarters way back . It was tiny. The view was to the car park at the rear and sadly there was no bath, only a shower. The bed was so soft that we both woke up with backache! As we had reserved bed and breakfast we were hoping this would be the redeeming feature of the stay. Sadly we were seated for a good 20 mins before our hot breakfasts arrived. Poached eggs arrived on a large dinner plate sailing in water, I had to transfer these to my side plate to eat with my toast to avoid a soggy mess. They ran out of brown bread by 9am and also the croissant and pastries. My husbands toast looked like it had barely seen a toaster. The coffee tasted like weak instant, not the usual filtered coffee served in hotels. There is a general feel of tiredness about this hotel. I realise it is an old building but given the prices of the rooms surely they could upgrade Not recommended. ....

    « DIsappointed! »

We stayed here as we were collecting our daughter from university, and picked The Scores as we had previously been here before and enjoyed the experience. The first time we were given a big room with a sea view and a very comfortable large bed. On this occasion we were given a room over the kitchen with the associated noise and the constant noise of the fan. As it was warm we had to leave the window open and this affected our sleep. The bed was a double one and it would have been better if it had been a king size one. We generally stay in less expensive hotels and have usually had a king size or two single beds pushed together. The drink making facilities were fine, and the bathroom was perfectly good. At breakfast, the service was slow. It took at least five minutes for someone to offer us tea and coffee and take our order. When the toast was brought in, there was no room for the plate on the table due to the used dishes and plates, but instead of taking these away, the server put the plate on top of the tall vase in the middle of the table. It reminded us of Faulty Towers at this point. The food itself was good enough, most of us having the smoked salmon omelette. To be fair to the receptionist, she suggested contacting them prior to any future visit to ensure a more suitable room. However this is not likely. She also got us a jug of fresh milk for tea and coffee when we ran out. She was as helpful as she could be. This was supposed to be a treat for us, but we were really disappointed given the amount we paid.

« Great Location and Value »

This was my third stay at the Scores Hotel in St. Andrews. The Scores Hotel has a marvelous location just off the 18th green and 1st tee box of the Old Course. The hotel is clean and well appointed, and the service is generally good. The breakfast service was a bit disappointing as compared to previous visits, but certainly up to standard. Avoid the rooms below street level. They are large and comfortable and the kitchenette is a nice touch but the rooms are dark. Also Champions Bar was a bit disappointing. It did not seem as busy or interesting as it did on my prior visits. It does not seem to draw a local crowd any longer.

« Great location, OK rooms and service »

Great location, overlooking West Sands and the golf courses. Rooms are nice but nothing special. Breakfast is below par for Scotland, but perfectly edible. Internet is free but slow. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms large, but fixtures could be upgraded. Overall the place looks a bit tired, but the location is nice -- you can walk to everything. Parking is on the street, with a few places behind the hotel, so it depends on when you come in whether or not spots are available.

    « A jewel of St. Andrews! »

We were able to book the family room at this property and it was by far the best family room we have ever had. The room is actually a suite with a single door and entry area with two separate rooms - one full U.K. double (=US queen / king) and one with two single beds. Each room is equipped with a sink. There is one toilet room and a combined toilet/bath+shower room. This property is about as close to the R&A building as you can get. If you are visiting St. Andrews to play golf, this is the best deal in town for the cost and proximity to the links. Even though you are at the far west end of town, it is a short and very reasonable walk to the shops and restaurants in town. The breakfast is extensive and is an excellent value for the money spent. For one fee, you get a continental buffet and the option to order a hot meal off the menu which does include a full English breakfast as an option. Miscellaneous: - Car parking is available right in front of the hotel - The hotel has a golf bag storage room for guest convenience - There are two restaurants, one bar, and one cafe on property For the yanks (US people) this is NOT your average US Best Western. Don't ignore this property. I could add more but I have already written a short essay. Hope the info helped.

    « University visit »

Best western is located on the first hole of the old course. Centrally located to all the sites, university and restaurants, all an easy walk and no need for a car. Typically don't like hotel restaurants, but the scores is an exception! We will be back!

    « Return visit »

This was our second visit to The Best Western and hopefully won't be our last. Were allocated a superb room overlooking The Scores,Beach & First tee. The bathroom probably needs updating but was spacious, bright with lovely toiletries. Service is super friendly. We had breakfast included which has a cold buffet as well as freshly cooked to order hot items and is served in a lovely room with great views. There is also a bar downstairs called Chariots which attracts golfers as well as locals and again service was very friendly - can recommend the potato skins as a snack to go along with drinks. The location is fantastic and would definitely consider again when returning to St Andrews.

Had an upgrade courtesy of the hotel, had a brilliant room with a view all excellent, the staff were fantastic, all meals excellent, We arrived on Sunday late afternoon and had no problem parking but it could be a bit tricky parking at certain times, they do have parking for 8 cars at rear of hotel.this is a common problem though in St Andrews. Overall a lovely hotel centrally located and perfect if you are playing golf!!!,would stay again when visiting St Andrews.

    « Check room choice »

We booked in for one nights stay last weekend. Unfortunately we lost the coin toss for the rooms and ended up in room 107 at the back of the hotel, supposedly an upgrade to a junior suite. The others were in room 214- much better standard of room. Heating wasn't on so room was freezing. Large room but very tired in places, grout and bath seal need attention. Staff quickly sorted heating. The view was supposed to be over the garden....eh no! Over the roof of the hotel extension. At night we soon realised the room was above a noisy generator so one of us had no sleep. Breakfast was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I did give a note of our concerns to the young receptionist as we checked out but this was met with little reaction and no concern shown for our negative experience. I thought I'd hear from the hotel about our concerns but a week later not a peep.

Stayed at this hotel for only one night but found it to be great value for money. Very friendly staff across the board notably the barman in the main bar and the breakfast staff. Cracking view from our room , the mark has to reflect situation, cleanliness and value for money , it does and I will be back asap.

    « Room with a view! »

Well located traditional hotel with stunning views from the sea facing rooms. Slightly dated hotel but still a great place to stay. Rooms are well equipped with the most comfortable beds and lovely white bed linen. Bathrooms fixtures have definitely seen better days but still very functional, lovely fluffy towels with the usual bathroom accessories. Tea, coffee, water and biscuits all complimentary, Ironing board and iron and what looked liked a air con machine in wardrobe. Hotel has downstairs cosy pub and a couple of restaurants attached, lift to all floors and an amazing sea view from the breakfast/restaurant room. Breakfast was great, everything you could want, cold buffet and hot choices. In all, wonderful location for the beach, golf course, shopping and sites. An old style hotel that has everything and wonderful staff. Sea view room a must!

« Great hotela and location »

The hotel has a great position and if you get a front facing room you will have a beautiful view of the water and the Old Course. The room was large and very clean and tidy. The staff were all very pleasant. The hotel is quite at night and no external noise. The food in the Grill was brilliant and Pam the supervisor was brilliant. The hotel was very comfortable and clean and keep up the good work.

« Great location and good value hotel »

Gorgeous views of the sea and the lovely building which houses the Royal and Ancient Golf Club. Front facing bedrooms have the same view but I had a room at the back which overlooks the hotel garden and the rear of various other buildings. Nice sized room though with large bathroom. Hotel was clean and well presented albeit a bit dated. Good choice at breakfast and freshly cooked breakfast too. Good location, in easy walking distance of the shops and attractions and a lovely walk to be had along the seafront. Would stay here again

    « Breathtaking Location »

A breathtaking location, I headed out on a morning run from the hotel which brought the sight of dramatic, crashing waves, rock pools, the famous Old Course, war memorial and ruined castle and cathedral. St. Andrews is small so you are never far from anywhere but the hotel is in the perfect spot. Inside, it's pretty standard and not cheap - a reflection of the wealthy clientele the town attracts - golfers, rich Americans and minor royalty. If you can afford it, an atmospheric place to stay.

    « Lovely hotel »

This is a lovely hotel in a lovely location. Friendly staff. We had a beautiful room overlooking the sea. It was clean and spacious. Wonderful breakfast to start the day before exploring the wonderful local area. We look forward to staying again.

    « Nice view but that's all »

First the positives - the views from the front of the hotel are stunning, and the service was friendly. Now the rest - our trip was a disaster from start to finish. We were travelling with our teenage son so booked a junior suite with a double room and an extra bed. On arriving found we'd been allocated 2 twin beds instead & no extra bed. It took some time for them to switch things round, as the hotel was full, and we were moved to a room in the basement - no views - which obviously hadn't been heated for days, although it warmed up eventually when we found the radiator thermostat ourselves. Bed was uncomfortable, and pillows are horrid and cheap. Breakfast next morning was terrible. We came down at 9.30 - breakfast finishes at 10 - to find many of the buffet items had already run out. Horrible oversweetened fruit salad and juice - is this a Scottish thing? The cooked Scottish breakfast was served without the advertised bacon or mushrooms, and the potato scones were burnt. I also stupidly left my phone charger in the room after we checked out. When I called the hotel a few days later to ask if they had it, they said they'd check & promised me a call back. Nothing. We will be regular visitors to St. Andrews for the next few years, but won't be staying here again.

« Great location! Somewhat tired property! »

For a golfer it is a perfect location, 150 yards from the first tee on the Old Course. Book a room with a view of the beach and the sea. There are plenty of restaurants within a 5 minute walk. The hotel is somewhat worn and tired, but we thought it had character and we enjoyed our 3 night stay.

    5
« Great location, great staff! »

Looking at some of the other reviews for this hotel, I'm somewhat surprised since we had such a good experience here. Our large and comfortable room was on the 3rd floor and looked out on the "Chariots of Fire" beach and the back of the R&A clubhouse, just a few steps away from the Old Course. The staff treated us well from the time we checked in until we left, especially the folks at the front desk. We enjoyed being able to order what we wanted for breakfast and the food was quite good. Another advantage for us was being able to park in the off-street parking lot. All in all, a very enjoyable stay during our trip around Scotland.

    2
    « Very disappointed »

Stayed here for one night with my partner, Our room was lovely but service let it down. Considering what we paid for one night and the service we received was very disappointing. Dinner was poor and the breakfast wasn't much better. Probably won't return.

« Dated and tired. Rooms freezing. »

This hotel is in an excellent location. The view is wonderful. However there has to be a time when you can't just rely on the view. The hotel is very tired and dated. Needs complete refurbishment. The rooms aren't sound proofed. I could have had a conversation with the gentlemen next door in the bathroom. The rooms were freezing and the radiator thermostats in the bedroom were broken. The radiator in the bathroom came on in the morning. The sink in the bathroom was cracked and the fittings so dated it was impossible to keep the plug holes clean. The bar was advertised as being open 11-11. When we came back after eating out (hotel menu was very unappealing) at 9pm the bar was firmly closed. Breakfast was slow. We had to be somewhere and left an hour for breakfast. When our hot food hadn't arrived 30 mins after being ordered we had to ask the waitress to hurry it along. By that time there was no bread to toast and no time to sort it out. Do yourself a favour and book the premier inn down the road, much cheaper and you have to assurance if you can't sleep as you're too cold you can get your money back.

    3
    « A bit disapointing »

Looking a bit jaded we thought. Dirty coffee cups in the room, only one bath towel, but the room was large and very comfortable. Service 'OK'. Very convenient for the old course and the hotel was very accommodating over leaving luggage etc.

« Great spot, great staff... »

Overall very good experience - staff friendly and professional, room good with very comfy bed, and location is perfect. Right next to the 18th and looks out over the sea. Only let down? Waiting staff at breakfast very slow and not too great in terms of customer service. Breakfast just about okay. Decor a little dated. Other staff saved the day - the reception team were excellent.

    « Location, location, location! »

Great location for walking to the six golf courses on the St. Andrews property and to the stores and pubs in town. The golf shop called Aucholines or something close to that is right there on Golf Place for club rentals and anything else you might need to play. I would wake up in the morning, have the awesome breakfast at the hotel, and walk to the golf courses. I would play dawn to dusk before going back to our very nice room with a view of the R&A and the beach. No car needed here but they do have a parking lot behind the hotel through the stone arch if you need it. It's a short walk to the links clubhouse for the New Course and the Jubilee Course both of which I highly recommend playing. It's a big longer walk to the Eden clubhouse for the Eden, Straththyrum, and Balgove courses but a very pleasant walk on the Old Course. The hotel is extremely close to the first tee of the old course. If you watch any tournaments from the Old Course on t.v., you will see an old red stone building by the first tee box right behind the 18th green. This hotel is right behind it! How great is that? The staff made us feel welcome and we loved the laundry service, the food, and the views! It's also very close to the University, a Tesco grocery store, and many many pubs and restaurants not to mention lots of golf shops and some famous ruins. Scott helped us with a small check in issue which we greatly appreciated. Looking forward to returning for more golf!!!!

« Great Location; Good Breafast »

This hotel is right at the end of the eighteenth green on the Old Course. You can stand on the porch and see the aquarium. And it is about a five minute walk to town. Great location. The room was a standard English hotel room, nothing fancy, but clean and nicely decorated. They have a large dining area that overlooks the coast. I would stay here again.

    « Restaurant review »

To sum it up it could be much much better ! Great view and pretty nice decor but ...... You would expect better from a hotel of this standard. 4 of us had a meal and we were unanimous that this was average. The fish n chips were very ordinary - you could get much better at the local fish n chip shops. I had the pork was very tasty but I would have need fish n chips afterwards had it not been for the average sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The restaurant was empty on a Dunhill Golf weekend which pretty much sums it up. Clearly the restaurant is not their focus and neither should it be yours.

    « A Rotary evening »

The Scores Hotel hosts both the St Andrews Rotary Club and the St Andrews Kilrymont Rotary Club every week. I had the pleasure of being the guest speaker at the evening gathering of the St Andrews Kilrymont Rotary Club. I was impressed by the friendly staff and the quality of our 2 course meal- the chicken and leek pie was particularly tasty. Finding a parking space near the hotel on The Scores can be problematic and frustrating, but if you are lucky there is a bonus, there is no parking charge. The car park behind the British Golf Museum is convenient but there is a charge between 8am- 5pm. However overnight is free. Being almost adjacent to the Links the Scores Hotel is particularly ideal for any golfers ; and it is also close to the Town Centre for visitors intent on shopping or looking for a coffee house or other attractions.

« Best view in St Andrews »

Fantastic location with views overlooking the Royal & Ancient golf course and the famous "Chariots of Fire" West Sands. We were lucky and got a sea view room on the top floor with all the views. The breakfast room has magnificent picture windows giving magnificent views of the golf course, the West Sands beach (approx. 2 miles of fantastic beach). Plenty of places to eat nearby and the hotel even has car parking spaces which is a must-have in St Andrews. Highly recommended.

    « Great stay! »

We stayed for one night mid week in a family room, which had two separate bedrooms, a separate toilet to the bathroom and wash facilities in the rooms also. We requested feather free bedding, which was all arranged for our arrival. A lovely breakfast was served also. We had French toast, smoked salmon eggs on a muffin, scrambled eggs with haggis. There was lots of choice. Lovely service too!

« Please sort the beds... »

There's so much to like about this hotel. Staff are charming, location is unrivalled, and the value is the best in (this generally overpriced) town, but the beds are the most uncomfortable I have ever slept in, anywhere. The hotel itself is what you'd expect for a three star Best Western, i.e. a bit dated, with cheap fixtures and fittings (I didn't know they still made soft plastic loo seats!), but all the good sides make up for that. At 2/3ds the price of the neighbouring Hotel du Vin, I thought it was worth a try, but after two of the most uncomfortable nights sleep ever, I now realise it was a false economy. Shame really.

    4
    « Great Location »

We stayed here one night and would stay here again simply for the location. It's within walking distance of the Golf Course, the beach, shopping, dining and the ruins. The staff was very friendly. Our guys golfed both mornings and the hotel accommodated the holding of their rental clubs for pick up the second day. We ate breakfast one morning and it was the typical continental menu but you could order from a menu. A little pricey for what's offered. We would stay here again.

    5
    « Close to everything »

This is a great hotel, you can see the first tee at St Andrews from the front door. Spacious room, wonderful and friendly staff. Close to everything in town. Breakfast is not included and our only small issue was that we only had tea and a pastry but still had to pay for the full continental breakfast. Would stay there again in a heartbeat

« Great location, but skip the meals »

The junior suite was very roomy, including a large bathroom. The staff at the front desk was fantastic, with several excellent recommendations, assistance with directions, calling cabs, and overall friendliness! It is an older building, but that adds to its charm. The included breakfasts were fair and dinners were not great, but we were told they were in the middle of a chef change when we were there.Fantastic location....250 yards to the first tee at the Old Course!

« Great location w nice rooms. Food is a gamble »

I'll start with the good; the room was the best we had during our weeklong stay in Scotland. The hotel itself is very well situated and the staff very friendly and helpful. I feel bad for the servers in the restaurant as the kitchen moves at glacial speed as soon as there are 3 or more orders that come in - stack the odds and get your order in quick! The servers try hard and Lindsay was a gem, but week old recycled haggis is tough to disguise. Stay away from any of the steaks as they are totally inedible. The risotto was a safer, passable bet. The good news is that there are good restaurants up on Market street.

    « Location, Location!! »

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the BW Scores. The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, the bed was comfortable, the room was large (junior suite),. and it's located steps from the Old Course. The hotel looks over the ocean, although not all rooms do. The breakfast buffet was very good served in a lovely room overlooking the ocean. If I come back to St Andrews, I'd stay here again.

    4
« This place is so cool. »

This hotel is actually two converted Victorian homes (one was an old boys home or school, as I recall). You can literally throw a golf ball and hit the Old Course from the from steps. The restaurant is very good...Chef was hilarious and skilled. We had the Carvery on the Sunday we arrived, and breakfast the following morning; both were very good. Staff was very friendly. We stayed in on of the Family rooms, and this was two complete rooms with a full bath and a water closet. The beds were very comfortable, and the rooms were huge. The hotel is old, and therefor not heavily insulated against noise, so pack ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. But for the location and the price...you can't beat it.

    « Just prfect »

What great find, location can't be beat. Great staff, smith check in, great character rooms, amazing water pressure and even a tub! High ceilings with some old world detail and charm, glad we scored on this one!

« Great location, great value »

The location is perfect! It really could not be in a more perfect place. We stayed here for one night while my husband played golf. The staff were very polite and accommodating upon check in. Our room was very large and clean. My only complaint was the bed. The mattress was a little lumpy and could probably use an upgrade. But other than that, I can't complain!

Had a lovely 5 star high tea with Pam serving this afternoon in the Champions Grill overlooking the ocean. Could not have picked a better location for a sea view lunch! Delicious cakes and lovely sandwiches. Would definetly come again for afternoon tea. 10/10

    « Delightful old hotel »

You can see The Old Course from the front of the hotel. The room we stayed in was a lovely junior suite. Very comfortable, spacious and quiet. Large screen TV and good wifi. Dinner in the hotel was very good. The ocean view from the dining room is unobstructed. Staff was very helpful. Shout out to Benji at the front desk. Only slightly negative comment is that the included breakfast is very lackluster. No hot food and by 9 am, it was all picked over. (It is open until 10.) We were able to park for free directly in front of the hotel. Take a walk out to the rocks in the ocean directly in front of the hotel.

« Okay but not great »

The location can not be beat. Close to the water and golf course. Unfortunately our room was really small with a view to the back roof. Really disappointed after reading reviews of rooms. Not 103 !!! Breakfast was quite nice and staff helpful. I should have been more assertive about room choice. The couple we traveled with had a much better room for same cost.

« ...comfortable stay with an iconic view »

When we finally arrived after dealing with a flight cancellation and missing bags, it was really nice to be greeted by a friendly receptionist who got us settled in and provided directions on where to purchase some essentials. The location is iconically situated in front of the 1st and 18th hole of the Old Course and less than a 10 min walk to the shops and restaurants on Market St. It's also about a 15 min walk to the St Andrews driving range. As you might expect the building retains its old world charm with quite a few steps between floors, oddly shaped rooms, and little to no sound proofing. However, the rooms are comfortable and cozy and the bathroom is well furnished with great amenities and plush towels. Don't forget to stop into Hams Hame Pub at the corner of the building to grab a dram or 2! Super friendly staff and very knowledgeable about the local whiskey!

    « Fantastic Location »

Stayed one night and were allocated a fantastic room - suite style with a great view of the sea and the old course - could not have asked for a better room. Service was friendly & willing throughout from check-in to check-out. It seemed as though the hotel was reasonably quiet as the main bar was not opened so we had to order drinks from the small bar area - we then took these outside as the weather was fine which meant walking back down the stairs to street level (the bar staff did offer to carry our drinks for us if needed) this however seemed a possibly lost opportunity for the hotel as at least 2 other groups asked us where we had got our drinks as they had also wanted to sit outside & couldn't quite make out where the bar was. Also if you wanted a post dinner drink it meant sitting at a dining table which didn't quite feel right. The only other small thing was that there was no soap in the room - the toiletries however were lovely and made up for this. The hotel is a little dated in parts but we wouldn't hesitate to stay again as the location & friendly service compensated.

Checked in mid afternoon, Scott was on reception very helpful and cheery member of staff, nothing was too much trouble. Directed to our room which was splendid. Didn't dine in restaurant but thoroughly enjoyed full cooked breakfast the next morning by room service

    « Overnight stay »

Had a great stay at the Scores in St Andrews, staff were friendly and welcoming especially Scott on reception - nothing was too much trouble for him what a star !. We didnt dine in the restaurant but the menu looked lovely. Our room was tastefully decorated for the style of the hotel and very comfortable. In the morning we opted for room service breakfast which was delivered promtly to our room. Will definately be back

    « Poor staff, poor service...but a great location... »

How to describe this slow, stodgy and uncared for place? Well, to start, the staff is wholly without energy, and without any sign of caring for its customers. My bathroom had no kleenex for a week; no clean glasses in the room, glasses from room service were left in the room, etc. And the same was true for my colleagues. Breakfast quality was poor, and matched by the service. The bar was rarely open. There was absolutely zero assistance at the front desk for questions about faxing or sending pdfs. The internet connection was spotty. How could a place perform so poorly across the board? I think the answer is easy: they believe you will stay there because of their excellent location...regardless of how poor the staff performs, how sloppy the housekeeping is and how poor the overall guest experience is. They have no incentive to perform well, since they believe you will stay there anyway because of where they are located. This place is very deserving to be called a dump....but then there is the location...

« Warm welcome and attentive service give it TOP Scores! »

Arriving almost at midnight, I was tired with the drive from Edinburgh, having played golf earlier that day. I was greeted cheerily by a concerned staff member who helped check me in. About twenty minutes later, he was behind the bar, helping me shake off the tension of driving along minor roads that often had road works in progress. Breakfast was a delightful Scottish breakfast with good service and plenty of choices while affording beautiful views of The Old Course, just a wedge away. The Scores is a great location for those who want to sample the delights of St. Andrews. The Old Course is right across the road, as are the well-stocked stores. I highly recommend it.

« Very "tired" , restaurant food very very average , good location »

Overnight golf stay, great location for old course , rooms very tired and bathrooms dated, key card didn't work , no apology from reception. , food in restaurant not great limited choice in bar , white wine warm , poached eggs at breakfast took an age and expensive ....plenty of good restaurants in St Andrews. Should be better really ....but it is a good location ...but not enough for a revisit...there's better options .

    3
    « If it weren't for the »

If it weren't for the location, I would have scored The Scores lower. Staff was pleasant but room, facilities , breakfast all were lee than I hoped for the money spent. Only the charm of the town and lovely stroll to e cathedral ruins made up for such a shabby hotel. This place is in need of a major rehab. Rooms are dated, small and stifling. The bathroom tile with mildew and mismatched and the tub a hazard. Spend a little time to find a B&B if you book early enough. I PES if you are golfing all day, then this would suffice.

« Best location in St Andrews »

Greatest feature is the hotel's location just steps from the 1st tee and 18th green of the Old Course. Hotel staff were wonderful - very friendly and accommodating. Comfortable, friendly hotel with small guest rooms, some of which overlook the sea. Delicious breakfast in room overlooking the North Sea. We will definitely return to this hotel when in St. Andrews.

    « only okay »

We had a junior suite that was to have a view of the course.. it had a view of the sidewalk and the tables from a nearby bar too. Luckily it was raining that night and so no party folks were out there. Room was quiet, so that's good. However, we had the windows shut b/c of safety issues, and it got hot. Used the fan that was included in the room. To get to this junior suite, we had to walk past the laundry rooms, which was odd. We had an included breakfast but were charged for it. The front desk person did take it off, after a discussion. All in all, i think you might be better off with another hotel in st. andrews.

« Would come back in a heartbeat!! »

Our great experience started at check-in when we were greeted by Scott. What a nice greeting and just a genuinely nice man who appreciates his guests. He is great for their business!! We had a junior suite and it was very large and beautiful. The hotel is beautiful and is right across from the Old course golf course at St. Andrews. We ate at Alexander's restaurant and the staff were very friendly and the service was wonderful.

« Great location- though we had a hard time finding the hotel and their additional parking. »

I was not impressed with the specific hotel receptionist but things improved in terms of the hotel. Even though the hotel is dated, the room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the breakfast was well prepared with options for gluten free needs. The location is prefect. The goodie bag for Best Western members should be eliminated or else upgraded as it took away from the appeal of the stay. IF you arrive after golf , you will have an easier time to park, otherwise they have a parking lot behind the hotel. We never found it and eventually secured a spot in the front of the hotel.

    « *** Outstanding Service *** »

I arrived with my husband to this hotel for a 2 night stay. Everything was outstanding from the moment we walked in the door to the minute we left. We were greeted by (Scott) the hotel receptionist at check-in. He did not fail at making us both feel welcoming with his smile and first class service. I have to take this opertunity again to thank him for going that extra mile for us i.e booking our restaurant, helping with directions, but most of all making us feel relaxed and happy to be visiting The Scores and St Andrews (you are a credit to your company). We enjoyed our stay incredibly and will be returning very soon. Thank You.

    « Lovely comfortable hotel »

Had an overnight here on Friday 22/07. When we arrived the receptionist was lovely and very helpful. Arranged an upgrade to a suite with a sea view. Only complaint which was out with hotels remit was the huge tree in front of our room window slightly got in the way of our view. Clean and comfortable hotel. Staff very very nice and obliging. Good choice of breakfast. Would stay here again and would recommend. Maybe a few wee upgrades required but all in all a nice hotel for being 3 star. In a prime location

    « Unimpressive service »

We had a lunch reservation elsewhere in the town for my 50th birthday; since it was such a gorgeous day, we looked for somewhere with a view to have a drink outside. I ordered a glass of red & a glass of prosecco. It took 15 minutes to arrive, although there were 3 staff in the bar when I ordered and not a huge number of customers - all of whom were only having drinks. When it did arrive, my prosecco was warm & flat. I was so annoyed & threw it onto the grass. My husband took the empty glass to reception and said the service was deplorable & the wine was warm. We were just waiting long enough for him to finish his glass. I had just made a mental note never to come back, but did think it was poor that nobody came to follow up on his complaint. After another 10 minutes, somebody came out with a cold bottle of prosecco & offered me a glass, but by this time we had to go, so she offered me my money back and the bottle. She disappeared to get the refund, but yet again another 10 minutes passed, so we got up to leave, at which point she arrived with the refund, but in the interim, the bottle of prosecco offer seemed to have disappeared. I didn't bother pursuing it, would just hate to think what the service is when they are actually busy....or maybe they aren't busy because of the shocking service.

    « Passing by »

A big birthday for my wife. We had a lunch booking elsewhere but settled at an outside table for a pre lunch drink in the glorious sunshine. Fully fifteen minutes after we placed our order our wine arrived. My wife's proseccio , not even chilled, it was warm. We were disgusted, and the contents were emptied on the grass. "Best" Western. I don't think so.

« Good Hotel, Typically poor Scottish hospitality »

Grand visit if you arrive at 2:00pm or later. Very unsatisfactory if you arrive anytime before 2:00. Look like staff feel you only pay for 2:00pm to 11:00am and will not life a finger to see if the room is ready before time. Need a parrot at the front desk from 11:00 am to 1:55.. continually repeating 'Chickens at too, chickens at too!

    « Return to St.Andrews »

I was a student in St.Andrews in the 80s and this was a holiday to introduce my family to it. The last time I was in the Scores was 1989. We had great stay at The Scores St.Andrews in a family room, which was actually two rooms with a little entrance hall between them and one bathroom and one separate toilet (no sink in there tho?). The rooms were comfortable and there was no noise at all- nice view over the back garden. Breakfast was good, with a choice from the menu or small buffet (loved the smoked salmon). Porridge was on but not on the menu- a nice touch was the friendly lady who remembered I'd asked for it, and asked me the next day if I would like it again. The staff were all very friendly; this is a quiet hotel in an excellent location, especially for golfers, as the Old Course is literally a 30second walk away. My only criticism was the housekeeping- the bathroom (floor definitely) wasn't cleaned during our stay but towels were replaced and bin emptied), bins in the bedrooms were not emptied one day due to a mix up . We had to buy water from outside as our bottles of water and coffee were not replenished - was this supply to last the three days? I don't know - this did not spoil the stay however, and I would definitely return. Would I recommend The Scores? Most definitely. Was it value for money? Most definitely - £702 for three nights bed and breakfast for three adults (over 12 is adult) and one child. Thanks.

    « Golf »

This hotel is all about location as it is a stones throw from the first hole of the old course at St. Andrews. The rooms are up to the standard of a 3 star hotel as advertised and the breakfast is ok but not that great. Staff are friendly and helpful. The night porter can organise an early breakfast if you have a tee time before 7am. I have stayed there a couple of times as it is not that expensive but is in such a great location. If location is your thing it does not get any better.

    4
    « Try to reserve Rm 106 ... »

Nice hotel in a great location about 200 yards from the 1st tee of the Old Course. Room 106 is large with a GREAT view of the R&A, 18th green, and first tee. Standard breakfast in a nice room. Short walk to town too.

    3
« great location but could do with a makeover »

You won't get many better located hotels in St Andrews, however the hotel is resting somewhat on its laurels. It's clean and tidy but 3 stars is a fair rating, unfortunately the breakfast wasn't great and the service a little odd at times.

    « GREAT FAMILY HOTEL »

Brought the family to St. Andrews for a birthday gift of golf for my husband. Hotel staff was very accommodating to every request. We reserved a family room (well priced) which had two separate bedrooms and baths, perfect for a family of four. Amazing homemade shortbread cookies in the lobby, great food in the restaurant, and the obvious-- a perfect location for golfers. While my husband golfed, the kids and I had plenty to do, being able to walk to St. Andrews castle (very kid friendly place) and shops and restaurants in town. Took the St. Andrews shuttle to and from the EDI airport which made it a breeze and low stress.

    « Location, location! »

Practically ON the 18th hole of the Old Course, the location could not have been better. Parking is challenging, however, and the staff person was neither sympathetic nor helpful about that when we checked in. The room assigned to us was very hot, and when we couldn't open the window the extremely nice evening manager had us moved quickly to a lovely room overlooking the water, which rescued our opinion! The decor is probably ready for an upgrade, but the location more than makes up for it!

    5
    « Golfer's Paradise »

The staff at Scores was top notch, top to bottom, and they were very accommodating to our group of 14 golfers. Offering breakfast and golf club storage was great touches, the rooms were welcoming for 2 guests and the bathrooms very spacious! The location of the hotel is award winning to me! I will stay at Scores on my next visit!

« Comfortable Suite in Fabulous Location Next to Old Course »

We selected this hotel because it was across the street from the Old Course on St. Andrew's Link. It is also next to the bay with a large expanse of grassy knoll to walk on. They advertise free parking, but if you arrive at the wrong time of the day, there is no room to park. We had to park way down the street, and then move our car later to be close to the hotel. We had booked a suite, which was large, roomy, and comfortable. The bed was one of the bed we slept on during our trip. The only disappointment was we didn't have an ocean view, but had a nice garden view instead. For breakfast you could order from the menu and also eat at the buffet. It was included with the room. The service was especially good here -- with very friendly employees. I also met the owner, who introduced himself and said he had another hotel in Florida. He had purchased the Scores Hotel in the 1980's because he loved to play golf. He said the Best Western managed it for him. It had to be the fanciest Best Western I've ever stayed in -- very unusual for the basic and usually inexpensive Best Westerns we have the in the US. This hotel is actually in an old mansion-type house, and even has stairs in the hallways, which were a bit difficult with my luggage. Overall a good stay. We checked in at 2pm, and then walked over to the Old Course to see if my husband could get on as a single. Amazingly he was on the course by 3pm! And the day turned out to be warm and sunny. A wonderful start to our golfing visit to St. Andrews.

    « Great views »

We had a great room, junior suite overlooking the bay. Super location for golf course and walk into town. Cooked breakfast and service at breakfast a little "iffy" but all in all great place for a couple of nights stay to visit the home of golf.

    « Great Location »

If you are looking for a hotel right across from the Old Course, this one is it. Great location, easy access to course and shopping. Beautiful, old decor and great staff. My only objection was our bed was so firm, it was uncomfortable. But, I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the quality of the building structure and the helpful staff.

    « John Russell »

Outstanding location within walking distance to R & A, Old Course, etc. Room views spectacular overlooking the water. Staff very friendly and fairly helpful. That said, there is no portage service once we were dropped off at the hotel nor could Staff provide service for purchasing momento from their small gift area. As a first time visitor, this is unacceptable.

Absolutely loved this hotel .Location was fabulous as we had a lovely room with a sea view of the first tee on the old course. Magical ..Our room was well decorated and our bathroon huge. The staff were friendly and efficient and the breakfast okay but I didn't see porridge on the menu..Would definitely stay here again as the location is convient for the beach town and various restaurants ..

    « A truly super experience »

As a 67 years old lady golfer from Cape Town, South Africa, I recently drove through Scotland, by myself and stayed for 2 nights at the Best Western Scores Hotel in St Andrews. It was a truly unbelievable experience made even more special, by the care and service I received from the duty manager, Scott, who was on duty when I arrived, right through to the restaurant and pub and also the administration staff, when I checked out. The food was equally good, the room I stayed in was fabulous, comfortable beds and tastefully appointed. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and hope to return there, one day soon.

    3
    « Dated Rooms »

The hotel rooms are dated although located near the old course. Rooms need more temperature control in cold months. Wifi is okay, breakfast is okay. A lot of stairs to your rooms so dont carry heavy luggage. Parking is free around the hotel. Plenty of eateries, within walking distance to the whole city.

    « Perfect Location »

The Scores Best Western offers any visitor to St. Andrews a great experience in what can only be described as the perfect location. Sitting outside the hotel on a summers evening having a drink, you are able to watch the golfers approching the 18th Green of the Old Course. Very smart and friendly staff and a goog hearty breakfast to set you up ufor the day. Highly recommended.

« Poor Service, Good Location »

This hotel has a great location. Walking distance to all the restaurants, pubs and attractions in St. Andrews. Our room looked out onto St. Andrews Bay and partially onto hole 1 at the Old Course. You can walk to the Old, New, Jubilee & Eden Courses. Our room was a good size and the bathroom was a decent size as well (Jr. Suite). Those would be the only positives about this hotel. The service overall was very poor. In order to get our tee time at the Old Course we had to stay at the Scores Hotel and eat one dinner at the Champions Grill. We were led to believe that this was going to be nice dinner with excellent food. The place as empty and the other guests there were in jeans. The food was probably step above pub food. We also asked two servers if the alcohol was included in the pre-paid dinner. To our surprise we were told yes that everything was included. After dinner the front desk notified us that alcohol was not included and that we were to pay for it. We asked how we should have handled differently since we asked multiple employees and they had no answer and only that they we need to get with management on how to handle the bill. The service at the restaurant during breakfast was very poor as well. There were multiple times that we waited over 30 minutes to order even though only 3 tables had guests. The once we ordered it took another 30 minutes just for an omelet or french toast. It almost seemed as if it was intentional. We also had issues with the maid service as well. There were multiple days when we left the please clean sign on the door but no service was provided. I'm not sure if we did anything wrong with tipping or not. We were told to usually leave a few pounds on the bed or desk for the maid service and we did so. Not sure if the staff took offense to that or not. Even asking the front desk for restaurant recommendations was difficult. Every time we were given the same 2 places to try. We went to the Dunvagen and asked and they gave us great selections to try when they were full. If you don't care at about service this hotel is great solely on its location and you get a room with a view. I usually don't mind the service too much but it was so noticeably bad that it did affect our time there.

    « Not worth money »

Stayed here last week on my birthday as we were attending a wedding reception in another hotel outside St Andrews. On arrival was not impressed with greeting not very friendly. Room was very dated however clean - did ask for a room with a view no joy as we were at back of hotel. Breakfast in morning was a total shambles, we were told to sit anywhere and left. Waited for about ten mins until Pam attended to us her service was excellent. Buffet food was very disappointing - hardly any choice available as not refilled enough shocking for price this hotel charges. Should have just got wedding bus back home, would definitely not stay again.

    « christmas 2015 »

My Dad Paid over a grand for a coach tour and to stay at this hotel for xmas 2015 it was an absolute disgrace from start to finish, no heating, breakfast buffet cleaned out with no replacement, poor service from foreign staff, manager on holiday and no sympathy or refund from best western. Keep Clear of it.

« Overnight stay for local wedding »

Reception not very welcoming. We had requested early check-in at 1pm to change for 2 pm wedding. Receptionist had no knowledge of this, although eventually managed to accommodate us. Attempted a snack lunch of sandwich and coffee. This took 35 minutes to appear leaving us unable to finish it. Cost was excessive. Room was adequate although on the cold side. This hotel, although ideally situated for golfers is certainly not value for money for other travellers and I would not repeat the experience.

    4
    « Beautiful room with a view »

The hotel is nicely place with lovely views. Ask for a room with a view of the sea. The Junior Suite was spacious and comfortable. Little things were amiss like: dirty glasses in bathroom, dirty shower curtain, missing towel racks, etc. However the overall comfort of the room and convenience to golf and town were very special.

    4
« Great location and rooms perfectly adequate »

In St Andrews for a golfing break, this hotel is so close to the action - about 200 yds from the first tee box for the Old Course! Center of town a few mins easy walk away. Staff v friendly, rooms fine and free parking outside. Nothing not to like.

« Room fab... Food disappointing!! »

Lovely big room, nice big comfortable bed, large tv. Fresh bright on suite. However restaurant disappointing Arbroath smokies with mac cheese, runny lacked fish, taste & flavour. Waitress lacked experience and knlowedge not offered bread or side dishes. Another table walked out due to no steak, plus they waited 1hr for bread, plus they got all their drinks mixed up. Breakfast was nice, box standard but nice. Great view!!

I stayed here for one night for work purposes. I got upgraded to a suite which was lovely but unfortunately didn't get much use of it but it was a great touch! The bed was huge and very comfy. I had a sea view which was great. It is at a great location and handy for the town centre/golf and University

« Location, location, location- just PERFECT »

Needed one night accommodations for our trip through St. Andrews. Just off the Old Course and adjacent to the Royal and Ancient Club, this property was perfect. Room was very spacious with a queen bed and two large window facing easy chairs. Bathroom was average but certainly acceptable. Location was just feet from the 18th green of the Old Course and in the heart of shopping area.

    « I'll be back ! »

Went here for a romantic overnighter and was delighted to be upgraded on arrival by delightful lady on reception. The room was lovely with great views over the beach and parts of the famous Old Course. Breakfast was hit and miss, I say this as I enjoyed it but my partner didnt think the same. Only down side for me was lack of atmoshpere in a very overpriced bar. I wet down for a drink whilst waiting on my partner getting ready and was quoted £27.50 for an average bottle of prosecco, which was far to much. I went to local Tesco and got a perfectly decent one for £18 less.

« Relying on its location »

Stayed over the holiday weekend, with the golfing season in full flow so should be no excuses. Several positives. Location is awesome. Rooms are mixture of good and spacious in twin, to okay but a little small in double. Reception staff very welcoming and efficient. But a few negatives too. Breakfast very poor. Few staff and most of the buffet constantly running out. Even the ordered specials didn't match the description. And finally a bar that according to staff 'only opens when it's busy!' Not quite sure how you gauge busy if it isn't open? Overall, needs to be taken for what it is, average.

    2
    « expensive and dated »

Stayed here for 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend. It was OK, but when you took into account the price and the service it was very disappointing. Our room was very small and the bathroom was basic. The staff were not especially friendly and certainly not welcoming. Surely St Andrews can offer something better for the price !!

    « Value for money »

Very professional and caring front desk / reception staff. Room service and restaurant service staff are also very good. The food quality needs some improvement particularly the cooking quality at breakfast. Housekeeping has room for improvement. The location is great and rooms are spacious.

    « Overnight stay »

Stayed overnight at hotel, check in was great, room lovely, clean and comfy however room was Cold at night and in morning. Breakfast not good, one person doing everything in dining room, serving clearing and keeping buffet stocked. Bacon you couldn't cut, beans were cold, potato scone was brick hard. Check out took about 15 mins don't think they knew what they were doing. First and last time at that hotel. Expected better for price

    « Great location - Great hospitality »

We loved the location with the first tee of the old course just outside the hotel doors. We had to pinch ourselves every time we walked out. Our room #200 faced the water and the course and the windows which were massive fostered a magnificent view. Parking was available outside the hotel on the street, and was generally available. In a week we had only one occasion where we couldn't find a spot right away. The breakfast was served in a wonderful lounge with beautiful views as well. The staff were warm, friendly and helpful.

    « Clean, tidy hotel! »

Stayed for 1 night, with work, nice tidy hotel, only saw 1 member of staff but polite. Room a bit dated but clean, had everything you would expect, good quality tea making facilities. Bed comfortable, I slept well. Very limited car parking, I had to park in a public car park, having to pay as well. I left before breakfast due to work commitments so I can't review that. Would stay here again.

    3
« Great location, tartan decor! »

I stayed here recently on business, while attending a conference. I am also Scottish, so being a Scot staying their on business means I am not the target clientele! I presume due to the tartan themed decor everywhere that golf tourists are the main client base. a superb location, overlooking golf course and west beach. Staff were also very friendly and helpful. Facilities in room were excellent. As a vegetarian I found the standard cooked buffet breakfast options a little disappointing, and quite limited. I am sure I could have probably ordered something from kitchen , but was a little time limited, so didn't ask.

« Perfect Hotel for the price »

This hotel is a great option if you are looking for a clean, comfortable room with a great shower. It has all of the services you might need and the staff is very helpful. Breakfasts are very good too. It is also located in a great location for people visiting St Andrews.

Had a couple of days off so thought we would head to St.Andrews. Having stayed in a few Great Western hotels I selected the Scores and I was slightly disappointed. When we arrived at the hotel reception to check in the area at the front desk was littered with luggage and golf bags which does not give a good impression not to mention it is the area leading to the front door. We went to the grill bar for a spot of lunch again disappointed as we had to go and ask for someone to take our order as we had been sitting for 15 mins when someone did arrive to take our order of soup of the day "board read Carrot & Coriander with crusty bread" only to be told that was yesterday's soup today it is Tomato. Tried to order another three items from the menu to no avail as we were told that food delivery had not arrived yet, by now it is 1:30pm settled for ham toasties. This service made our mind to go out for our evening meal The room we were allocated room 205 was spotless and the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was well stocked with plenty of quality towels. The hotel bar facilities were very poor as we came back from our evening meal at 10:00pm only to find it closed. The breakfast in the morning was at best average as the food was lukewarm Positive points are the room, location and staff Negatives Food, bar facilities and atmosphere

    « Golf St. Andrews »

Fantastic location in a beautiful town. Ideal for golfers and other tourists. 3 minute walk to the first hole on the Old Course. Was upgraded to a junior suite which was quite large with very comfortable beds. The staff especially the reception staff where very friendly. That is all the good points. The only downside is that the rooms and the breakfast area where very hot and uncomfortable at times. The breakfast had a wide menu with a full breakfast where you served yourself. Unfortunately if you wanted anything else you had to wait quite a while. The last morning I asked for duck eggs with bread up soldiers. After a good 20 minutes they arrived but it seemed they had still got there tin helmets on as they were overcooked. I would have complained but could not have afforded the time. Overall a friendly hotel.

    « Golf Trip »

Perfect position to access St Andrews golf at a very reasonable rate for such a popular venue. Staff were really friendly, polite and knowledgeable and the Scottish Breakfast set us up for the day perfectly. Pity the lift was out of order as we were on the 3rd floor, ouch!

    « Great location »

Stayed at the scores for two nights on a golf break. Got upgraded toa junior suite which was great although we didnt get the sea views at the back of the hotel. However the old course is literally yards from the front of the hotel, you can actually watch people teeing off from the restaurant so for golfers it was ideal. Breakfast was good with a nice selection of a,la carte items to compliment the usual breakfast fare. It can be a bit of a wait but worth it if youve got time. All in all a decent place with a great location for the views the golf and the town.

    « University visit »

Friendly hotel. It's not new but it's all there and it's clean. This isn't a bad thing. The room was amazing. The bed was very comfy and breakfast was good. They looked after our luggage after check out whilst we looked at the University. It was no bother. They did stop serving dinner at 8:30 pm which I found strange as the train got in at 7:45 pm. Still I managed a wonderful fish and chips. All in all the Scores Hotel is good value for money and a great location for either the golf or the University.

« Golf trip staying at the Score »

Although I had booked for the Junior suite, I did mention these were for twin beds, the rooms were both setup with double beds. However, this was rectified after a phone call. The rooms were excellent, with plenty of room and a nice sitting area. The breakfast was somewhat disappointing, on each of the three days I had to ask for the fruit and fruit juices to be replenished. Some of the cooked breakfast seemed to have been left in the hot plates for rather a long time, therefore, making it hard to eat. Two of the four only eat breakfast on the first morning, going out to a local café and paying for a decent breakfast. Would recommend due to the location and size of the suite, but try for a bed only basis.

« Great location and views »

Whilst the hotel is a little tired its location and views are 2nd to none. Our room was very large and had everything we needed but the decor was in need of a few touch ups including the corridors and random furniture that seemed to be placed in them. Breakfast was very good and catered for everything.

    « Disappointed »

We stayed for one night and were disappointed in the room. It was very small and the bed was uncomfortable. The bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade. The room was overpriced for what it was. The location was good and the room overlooked the water and it was possible to see the golf course. There were restaurant options within walking distance.

« Excellent Hotel in St Andrews »

Great location, service, staff and restaurant. Also only a couple of minutes walk to the fairway and shops. Parking was free and we managed to find a spot near the Hotel. There is also public parking within walking distance if you need it.

    « Very very good!!! »

The Scores Hotel is wondeful:located opposite the sea and close to the golf course; excellent position for a walk in the city centre or the beach. Very well designed, comfortable rooms, good breakfast ( perhaps this could be improved!).Nice atmosphere of an old boy - school!

    « A little bit dissapointed »

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and have always been impressed with the standard and cleanliness of the rooms. We arrived on the Friday, staying to the Sunday and on our arrival were delighted to be upgraded to a suite. The suite was amazing, a large bedroom with a very comfy bed, a large sitting room overlooking the beach and the 1st tee. There was also a separate bathroom which was also to a high standard. Unfortunately the only thing that spoiled our weekend was breakfast on the Sunday morning. Breakfast on the Saturday morning was cooked to order and arrived hot and tasty, however Sundays breakfast was a buffet style which was luke warm, tasteless and not very edible. We would stay at the hotel again but don't know if we would have breakfast on a Sunday unless it improves.

    « Fantastic Relaxing Break »

Just returned from a most relaxing weekend at the Scores, having stayed before the seaview rooms are amazing, staff very helpful and efficient shame my stay couldn't last longer. They seem to have a new Chef and dinner was amazing, good breakfast choice did need to be topped up faster but it was a busy breakfast time so to be expected really. Will be back again soon definitely recommended.

« Not what it used to be »

As a returning visitor to this well-located and previously well-run hotel, and a satisfied customer of several of Best Western's hotels around the country, I was left somewhat dismayed to see the drop in standards since my last visit to The Scores. The issues that myself and my fiance were faced with are borne from genuine concerns that this hotel is simply not what it used to be. Neither of us are particularly hard to please, which is what makes the downfall of this once spectacular hotel even worse. Particular areas of concern that might be addressed by the management are: - Uncomfortable and lumpy double beds that slope towards the middle. My back is still sore. - En-suite bathrooms that are desperately in need of upgrade to the 21st Century. - No bars in the hotel are open on a Friday evening. Is 10.30pm an unreasonable hour to have a night-cap? - The only drinks (alcoholic or otherwise) available at this time were only available on a Room Service charge, despite us being guests. - A 40-minute wait for our cooked breakfasts on the Saturday morning in an almost empty dining room. Thank goodness Sundays are buffet self-service day. From this visit I could not possibly recommend the Best Western Scores Hotel to anyone wishing to stay in St Andrews any longer, and nor will I be back. It is over-priced, uncomfortable, and not amenable to a relaxing weekend as a result. There are plenty of other places that meet the standards one would expect from the price paid in such a beautiful town. Unfortunately, the BW Scores isn't one of them.

« Traditional and With a Rather Wonderful View! »

Walking along The Scores (after which the hotel is named) is rather like being transported back into the 1920's (in the nicest possible sense) past the Monument and the Bandstand, all within sight of the beach. And, on first impressions, that's exactly how the hotel feels. Surrounded (at the back) it feels very much like a sanctuary. A good place to hold a Special Gathering; a fine menu, and well worth a stay!.

    « SCORES in St. Andrew's »

This hotel worked out very well for our family visit. Great views and location. The hotel front desk staff assisted us by storing our luggage for the day while we explored the town. Our only complaint was that the hotel was very warm overnight. We ended up opening a window to make it more comfortable.

    5
    « A comfortable location »

My wife and I have stayed three times at this hotel which located overlooking the sea and the golf course. We had a junior suite with a sea view. the room was commodious, comfortable and well furnished. The staff were friendly and efficient.

« Great hotel with nice views »

I stayed at the Scores for 1 night at start of March. Great welcome from the staff, checking in was quick and easy and the room was excellent. Very large and well decorated. There are a few sets of steps to take into account but this was fine for me. I had a room on the front overlooking the beach which had great views morning and evening. It gets a bit windy turning the corner onto The Scores but I just took that as a nice aerobic workout. Breakfast was great, even served haggis,. My only 'complaint' was it has very limited parking and this seemed to be used up by the staff. If the Scores itself is full, it's a bit of a trek from the nearest free parking.

    « Beautiful view »

Staff were punctual and helpful during my arrival and regarding my parking. The room was available promptly and well maintained with decor and soft furnishings. Bathroom large and to high standard. The staff were available for simple advice on things to do ans visit. Also the lower bar was closed as out of season but the regular bar was open and the staff happy to let you sit quietly enjoying the view and to read. Central location and would recommend a return trip. I will revisit soon.

« Helpful staff and great location. »

I only stayed for one night and arrived very late - kudos to the staff for making sure I don't go to sleep hungry! Everything else worked well and there were no problems with my stay. Golf and food both close. Recommended.

« Modest Hotel with North Sea Views »

Location, location, location. The hotel has water views, is close to the university, shops/restaurants and the famous golf course. The rooms are ok but having a sea view makes up for the indifferent furnishings. But clean and comfortable. They do a decent Full Scottish but the choices for the continental breakfast leaves something to be desired.

« Maybe the wrong time of year »

Nice hotel with fantastic views of the Old Course and St Andrews bay however it had a bit of a Marie Celeste feel about it. We checked in at 4:30pm and hoped to have a quick drink before changing for the evening but there was no staff on the bar. Asking at reception didn't help as we couldn't get an answer as to when the bar would open. We went to a nice wee pub around the corner instead. The room was spacious and comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The views from our room were stunning. Bonus was the free parking outside the hotel and it's only a 5-10 minute stroll into the centre of town. Would visit again but not in Jan/Feb

« Great location, lovely staff »

A great weekend at the Scores; fabulous location with views over the West Sands and the R&A Clubhouse. Staff were very competent and friendly. Rooms were large and comfortable. Shower was OK, but barely warm in early evening when all guests were getting ready for dinner. At other times water was hot.

« Good location, reasonable hotel. »

The scores is in a great location close to the golf courses with lovely views to the sea. It's also 5 minutes walk to the main streets with shops, pubs and restaurants. All St. Andrews hotels are expensive so difficult to say it was good value, but probably fair for the town. My room was spacious, well appointed and had a nice view to the front. Breakfast was adequate, though the views from the breakfast room were great. All staff were friendly and helpful.

    « Restaurant/bar review only. »

My girlfriend and I ate and drank here (The Scores) during a driving golf/distillery holiday of Scotland/Ireland in August 2015. It is across the road and a few meters up the hill opposite the St. Andrews club house. While the bar area was nice and cosy, we elected to order and enjoy our food/drink out the front tables where we could enjoy the views of the St. Andrews 1st and 18th holes.

    « Excellent hotel »

A very good hotel in a perfect position, overlooking the beach and links, the room was spacious and well equipped, the shower was good and powerful. The breakfast was nicely cooked just let down by being dished onto a small plate, overall it was a great stay at a very reasonable price for the quality of the hotel

    « Overnight stay »

Hotel staff very helpful when we asked to move room to a higher level for a better view. Hotel is in a great location with easy access to golf course and the beach. Rooms are large and the hotel is very nice with friendly staff. We shall definitely go back to the hotel when we visit St Andrews next.

Stayed here for one night while working in the area, what a great hotel, friendly and helpful staff, did have dinner in the restaurant and the food was amazing, full of flavour, great presentation and good value. Worth asking for a room with a Seaview what a view!! housekeeping can improve slightly though. Will definitely be back.

    « Great weekend destination »

When calling to book a room in order to ask for a sea view, my husband was offered an upgrade to a suite as it was my 50th birthday. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They even left a birthday card for me, which was a nice touch. The room was lovely and had the views we had hoped for .The en-suite was spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were plentiful. It was ideally situated for the beach or the town. Highly recommend a visit to Scores. Thank you Scores.

    « Shocking Christmas Dinner »

We decided not to cook Christmas dinner this year and leave it all to the professionals..... how wrong could we be! Our family of three, Myself, my partner Jackie, our son Ethan and my partners parents booked a table at the above 4/5 weeks ago, £55 per head, not overly expensive for the setting we thought. Its actually the first time in my life (53) I have went out for Christmas dinner and I can totally assure anyone reading this that it will be the last. What a shambles, we arrived half an hour early thinking we would enjoy a pre dinner drink, NO... only one small bar open with nobody serving!! 10-15 minutes later we eventually get our drink and at that point we were told we can go and sit at our table... fine we think, NO! We were shown down the stairs into a large brightly lit room with probably 2-300 people where our table for FIVE was waiting for us.... around 10 steps from the foot of the stairs and almost right at the Kitchen service door...PERFECT! THE TABLE!! Obviously crammed in at the last minute (bearing in mind we had booked weeks ago) FIVE in our party being sitted at a very small table that would barely fit FOUR, two on each side and one on the end, all fully equipped for every eventuality.... enough knives, forks and spoons for 4 courses, 5 wine glasses, 5 water glasses, water jug, 5 cups, 5 saucers (NO TEASPOONS) 5 side plates with 5 knives, milk jug, sugar bowl, salt and pepper (our salt was empty) 5 crackers.....oh and they WERE crackers indeed, no expense spared!!!! Inside 5 crackers were 3 sets of plastic shiny golf tees and 1 dice in the other two, between the 5 crackers there was the same joke in 3 and the same joke in the other 2... like I said, they were CRACKERS! Within a few minutes of being seated our waiter arrived with the menu, we had to pick all courses there and then from one A4 sheet of paper which he held on to... obviously there was no room on the table for individual menu's! No wine was offered at any point of the meal... again probably because there was no where to put it on the table... I really wish I had taken my phone for a pic! Starters arrive fairly quick for three, none for myself and Ethan, we went straight to the soup which arrived at the same time... fine. Jackies dad was having the starter and soup which we eventually managed to get when everyone else was sitting finished theirs! Main course, two pieces of turkey and one round of sausage meat in gravy, one pig in blanket and one small piece of bacon filled with greenbeans, the veg was pretty sparse (3 sprouts and a few carrot battens) and only 3 small roast tatties. NO mashed tatties, NO stuffing, NO bread sauce, NO parsnips, allthough I could go on, these are things I would normally associate with a traditional Christmas dinner ? At some point we had asked for more drinks.... and then we asked again.... and for a third time we asked and yes we finally got our SECOND drink in almost 2 hours.... wasn't much point going to the bar as there was no one serving most of the time! Sweets arrived and then the tea's/coffees ( I stirred my coffee with a knife) we finished quickly and left. What can I say... It was without a doubt THE worst Christmas meal I have ever had, THE worst Christmas experience I have ever had which all took place in a very dismal hall with NO atmosphere, NO background music, NO Christmas tree that I could see and to top it all, it cost £300 with the two drinks each that we eventually managed to get !!! It appeared to be totally under staffed with NO management in sight Thanks BEST WESTERN Scores Hotel, we wont be back.

« Not fit for Champions »

Nice hotel but convinced Mr Faulty is lurking somewhere! Food at Champions Bar definitely NOT fit for champions... Appalling! Now I know a black and blue burger should be blackened but with spices not burned and dried out to within an inch of its life, cold chips, warm coleslaw and when asked what red wine they had by the glass I was informed Rose! When I explained to the waiter this was not red wine. He said oh no neither it is, well I think you just have to buy a full bottle of red if we haven't already got a bottle opened! A wait of 30mins for a burger when only two other diners is also poor, but I guess maybe it takes that long to so overlook something! when questioned it was explained that there was a Rotary function on so the chef was under pressure! Really? Surely if you know you have function you staff up accordingly. Will definitely eat out for the rest of this stay, shame as the Champion grill has most probably the best location and view over the famous Chariots of Fire beach

    « Average Scores »

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year, so we had a fair deal for B&B and the hotel was very quiet. We got upgraded to a Junior Suite with a rear view, but unfortunately on arrival the restaurant was closed owing to a gas problem so we had to find somewhere else for dinner. The room was warm, but unfortunately the bathroom radiator didn't work; this was reported next morning but remained cold throughout our stay. The beds were comfortable and tea/coffe making provision was fine, though unfortunately it was not refreshed on our second day. Breakfasts in the Champions Lounge were good, with hot food freshly prepared, and we were able to dine there the next evening. Unfortunately the menu was rather limited and we ended up with good old fish and chips, while the Alexanders Restaurant and the main bar remained closed throughout our stay. The hotel is very well located, across the road from the Royal & Ancient golf clubhouse and a few minutes from the famous West Sands, with the town centre shops and amenities a short stroll away. Parking outside can be competitive and the bays are tight, but at that time of year we had no real problem. So, a hotel with lots of potential and pleasant staff but let down by lack of attention to detail - disappointingly average overall.

    « Very chilly »

We stayed for one night, Hogmanay, and arrived at 2.30pm on a cold day to a very chilly room. I called reception to tell them and was informed that the heating would come on at 4pm! On the 31st of December! It could only happen in Scotland. We are Scottish and used to cooler weather but were still astounded at this attitude. Obviously trying to save money.... The receptionist, who had been very pleasant at check in, agreed to put the heating on but it took a good couple of hours for the heat to build up. Quite a good hotel but maybe best to stay in warmer months, it's miserable being cold and this will be my lasting memory.

« Christmas Lunch at The Scores - A Tale of Two Halves »

The Scores has a fabulous location overlooking the West Sands in St.Andrews. In view of this, it was a pity that we were seated in the large function room at the back of the hotel - however, with the numbers involved it was perfectly understandable. However, a little bit of tinsel would not have gone amiss as, apart from a couple of crackers on the tables, there was nothing to else in the room to show it was Christmas. We both had the trio of Seafood to start which was delicious, the piping hot vine tomato soup was equally lovely however we weren't offered any bread rolls unlike the other tables. When I asked for bread, meaning the little rolls, I was given a plate of pan bread and sachets of butter. The main course arrived which for me was herb encrusted salmon and for my husband, ribeye steak. What I tasted of the salmon was lovely but it was underdone and raw in the middle so had to leave most of it. There was no sign of the seared scallops or the lobster sauce which were supposed to accompany the salmon. As well as the other veg I was given 2 very small roast potatoes - pretty disappointing overall. By contrast, my husband's rib eye steak was completely overdone, very dry and the Bearnaise sauce looked as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite a while. For dessert, my husband had a chocolate brownie and a blob of ice-cream while opted for the "Selection of Scottish Cheeses and Oatcakes" - I received stilton and cheddar and a mixture of biscuits. In short, pretty disappointing overall compared to other Christmas Lunch/Dinners we have had out in previous years so won't be celebrating Christmas at the Scores again. All that aside, the waiting staff were marvellous. Chatty, friendly and everything delivered and whisked away very efficiently.

« Check your bank statement after staying!! »

We picked this hotel for the location and were not disappointed. The room was very nice, but cold and we had to ask them to turn the heating on. Also the bath tap came away in our hands and we couldn't turn the running water off. This was repaired when we went out for the evening. We didn't have breakfast, so cannot comment on that. During check out they tried to charge us for a phone call we hadn't made!! The worrying part is 4 weeks later on checking my bank statement. That despite having pre paid on a travel site they had charged me again, but much more!! When I called them, it was denied at first, but later they realised the "mistake". I received no apology and am still waiting on the GM to contact me (3 days later!!) If you do decide to stay here, make sure you check your statements.....you maybe charged twice!!!!!

    « Massive improvements recently »

Held off writing this review as last year they dropped the ball with a Christmas party we attended here. There were assurances that no such problems would occur if we gave them another chance and I must say they really did redeem themselves last week. Last year there was clearly a personnel crisis with slow and clueless staff but this year all staff were friendly, knowledgable and well turned out. The rooms were excellent; large and clean, but you enter the rooms with the radiators turned off so you must remember to turn them on if its cold outside! Food and drink was good in the evening and the following morning. They were clearly a little understaffed at breakfast though. We were in no hurry so it didn't matter to us. One of the waitresses reminded me of the Butler from the video game, Tomb Raider 2! So The Scores has scored and we'll almost certainly be back for more next year.

« Fabulous first stay at the Scores »

Warm and welcoming, with staff to match. A beautiful spacious, spotless, sea view room, perfect. A stunning view and two very restful sleeps in a room with two double beds. Very very comfortable. Tried the full Scottish breakfast and eggs benedict for breakfast, thoroughly enjoyed both. Again, the staff at breakfast were very attentive and friendly. Really couldn't ask for more or fault the hotel in any way. Will definitely return.

« Great location for exploration »

We stayed here for two nights and found it was a great base for exploring the Castles, Abbeys and Coastline of the surrounding area. It was a short walk to the bars, restaurants and shops of St Andrews with the Old Course, Beach and University Campus only 5 minutes away. Our room was comfortable and quiet and the included breakfast included a lot of good cooked options. My only criticisms would be that the coffee included with breakfast did not taste good at all and the extra 1 pound requested to make a latte seemed bizarre and unnecessary. Also the staff were efficient but we didn't feel like any of them went the extra mile with their service, just going through the motions. Overall a great location and good value for money but could use a few tweaks to make it a brilliant place to stay.

    « Excellent hotel »

    « Not quite »

November in St Andrews and a feeling that it was closed for the winter.... Hotel seemed a good choice, and indeed all was perfectly adequate. Big room, comfortable bed, staff pleasant. Just seemed as if they were surprised at having guests in the hotel. DBB package was ok but not particularly good value for money. Had a definite 'end of a long seasonr' feel.

« Great location for playing Old Course »

The hotel is steps from the Old Pavilion where you queue up if you are a single golfer hoping to get on. Closer than the Old Course hotel even. We were lucky enough to have a room facing the North Sea and the course. It could not have been more perfect.Everyone was welcoming. The room was large and well appointed. Would stay there again if lucky enough to return.

From the minute we walked into the reception area we felt very welcome and the staff was happy to see us. Great location, everything is clean, the food is good but it is the staff that makes it a special place. They went the extra mile on numerous occasions to satisfy our requests or needs. Our 4th time in St. Andrews and I will not stay in any other place.

    « Wonderful Stay In A Wonderful Old-Style Hotel »

We have just returned to Aberdeen from a weekend in St. Andrews staying at the Scores. What a wonderful weekend! We actually booked through Tripadvisor and scored (no pun intended) an excellent rate but we really SCORED with the room!! It was huge and beautiful with a breathtaking view over St, Andrews Bay. Thank you Scores for giving us such an excellent room we were totally taken aback - my partner even started taking pictures of it as soon as we entered ! We really enjoyed everything about our stay there. The room was clean and warm with a very large comfortable bed and a good shower and good facilities for an old traditional hotel such as this. The Chariots Bar is a lovely atmospheric spot to enjoy a drink. We ate in the restaurant both nights and were very happy with the menu and our choices. The staff are all lovely and helpful making the service first-class. The location is amazing just behind the Old Course at St. Andrews and only a few minutes walk fro the town centre.. St. Andrews is really lovely by the way. Although the hotel has no dedicated parking there we found no difficulty finding one of the many spaces (which are free) on either side of the very quiet street outside of the hotel. We can honestly say we had an excellent weekend stay here, can highly recommend The Scores, and we will definitely be back. Many thanks to the hotel and staff

« Heating didn't work, tried to overcharge twice!!! »

This hotel is in a really good location, less than a minutes walk to the 18th green of the Old Course. However the lack of professionalism and any management presence lets the hotel down. When I checked they tried to charge £25 more than was quoted over the phone . Luckily I had a confirmation email to prove it. When we got to the room it was freezing cold. Turned on the heating in the bedroom&bathroom but neither worked. Phoned reception who sent up a young lad who told me heating was on a timer and if I wanted the heat on they woukd have to put it on for ALL of 2nd floor!! After lots of backwards&forward with reception there was no resolution. Breakfast was very mediocre and service was slow. When I went to check out they tried to charge £25 again, this time saying it was for breakfast. Once again I had to get the confirmation email to show breakfast was included. All in all a very bad experience one which I will never reapeat with Best Western again.

Stayed here one evening, 27 Oct. We were given a suite-one room king bed & the other 2 singles. Very spacious-clean and comfortable. Service staff are very friendly and location is excellent just off the beach. Breakfast was ample and good. Room price is not cheap, but considering room size and that I believe that other hotel prices in St Andrews are similar, then fair value. Would stay again.

    « Wonderful stay »

The hotel is in a superb position in St Andrews overlooking West Sands and the Old Course. Staff are most helpful - we would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Breakfast is freshly cooked and of good quality

Lovely room, very spacious and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly, polite, helpful. Breakfast was ok, neither great nor poor, quite average. Not so good bits were the warm showers and closed bars! We didn't expect the bars to be closed on a Saturday evening, especially as we were not advised of that when we booked.

    « Breathtaking view!!! »

Very quaint and traditional hotel. Staff really friendly and helpful. We were lucky enough to have a room on the third floor overlooking the beach and the old course. I can only say if you can get a similar room you'll love it. The view was spectacular and almost didn't look real! The room itself was clean with plenty of room along with a seating area. Tv good size and a radio also in the room. The only problems were the cold tap in the sink was awful to turn on and I only got a dribble to brush my teeth and wash hands. Easy for hotel to rectify. Shower wasn't a power shower and I did miss that and lastly the loo flush buttons seem a bit ineffective. All in all good value for money and nothing could have taken away from our view so I would return without hesitation.

We stayed here as a party of 6 to attend a wedding in the old course. Wish we had paid the extra and stayed elsewhere. At. £300 for 2 nights it was definitely not worth it. Small double bed which was fairly comfortable. We stayed in room 212. Gorgeous view so cannot fault that....... That is the only positive! Complimentary bottle of water in your room....fantastic! If the guests before us hasn't drank half of it! Reported this and wasn't replaced whilst we were out. Both myself and my partner stood on small bits of broken glass in the room. Reported thousand again nothing done as stood on another piece. The shower is the worst shower I have ever seen. The water jets went every direction. So much so that when I put my hand directly under it it was dry! The tiles are grubby and the ceiling has mould. Definitely in need of updating. The other bonus we had was the in room food. Someone had also kindly left a half eaten packet of crisps in a drawer! Another 2 in our party stayed in room 210. The dust was so thick in the room that it covered his boxer shorts.....the kind of later only found if the place hadn't been dusted in a long long time. Room 206 the chair fell apart when my partners dad sat on it! Breakfast was ok. It is what it is. Decent selection and the staff were all pleasant enough. BEST western? I think not! I would recommend this hotel for location but that is all. There are plenty other hotels beside it so I would definitely look into them. My partner spent both days with a really itchy nose and constantly sneezing. Since returning home no issues?!?! But after noting the cleanliness of the hotel it did leave us wondering. Never again for us!

« Scores makes triple bogey »

Four of us stayed at Scores on a Scotland golf trip. The people there volunteered to submit our ballot to play The Old Course, failed to do so on two consecutive days and then told us they did submit the ballots. The R&A confirmed they did not. Otherwise it is a building with potential if someone invests several million pounds. The management is abysmal and the place is a mess

    « Showers are a disaster »

Rooms are ok and breakfast very good. I stay here for company business year after year and do not have a choice in the hotel. If I did I would definitely not go back until they sort out their showers. Every year I complain and every year the staff acknowledge that they are poor and are always generating complaints and yet nothing is done. Basically in most rooms all you get is a dribble out of the shower and twice this year the water stopped completely during my shower. Last year I had to have the shower on for a good 15 minutes before any hot water came through in the mornings. Hope someone listens this year!!

« Visited this hotel for afternoon tea »

Hotel looked great, clean with Scottish and leather decor. Convenient location. A big disappointment to our tea with scones, clotted cream and jam. The scones were lumpy and difficult to swallow although they felt warm. There was no clotted cream. This was compensated by big pots of tea and extra hot water to top up! The view from the dining area was beautiful.

    « Old but nice »

Good stay, enjoyed it. Arrived around 9pm and the kitchen was shut so went elsewhere for dinner which was fine. Wifi is strong!! The breakfast was brilliant with lovely views from the restaurant and the staff are very friendly.

« Great location, but over priced »

Much as you expect from Best Western. Our room overlooked the rear gardens!! Reception staff were organised however although we were advised that breakfast started serving at 7.30am (Sunday) it didn't; only one lovely waitress appeared to be trying to cover whilst the remainder of the staff appeared after 8am. The food was of a good quality and choice other than the hot buffet. PS. Great views of the beach from the Breakfast lounge BW Management; Please upgrade your beds, no one sleeps in doubles these days!

    « Most relaxing 3 days »

Arrived and had a drama right away, which the excellent reception staff settled immediately leading to a tremendous stay. The room 214, had a fabulous view and was roomy and well furnished. Breakfast service was first class and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. All in all the hotel provided a good base for a relaxing stay in Saint Andrews.
